I know you? You trapes in all over the country.
We want it. The Rob Parker Tour continues in Chicago.
Tomorrow's Chicago Saturday Vegas. So yes, a lot of stuff
going on, and it's all taking for the whole weekend.
(01:59):
Huh nah, just for Saturday night night and then Sunday.
I gotta get back in time for the Yankees and Dodgers.
The big series that starts this weekend, and today, of course,
was the Cubs and Giants. A one nothing victory for
the Cubs on an absolutely beautiful day in Chicago, My goodness,
(02:21):
and the game was super quick and that was it.
It was great. All right, Well, introduce the crew and
let's get it rolling. It is time to introduce the
odd couple. Crew wouldn't be able to do this fine
radio program without him. Rob g is our producer, Alex
is our engineer, and Steve de Seger is at the
(02:43):
anchor desk. He'll keep us updated throughout the program. And
that is our crew. I don't think Elijah is working today,
so it's just us. So they're all on the other
side of the glass on this Thursday TV theme song Thursday.
In fact, let's kick some ass. Let's do it all right.
Big news coming out of the NFL. Rod Parker concerning
(03:08):
Ezekiel Elliott, I mean not huge news now. I was
gonna sign, but the offer apparently, according to ed Warder
of ESPN, he is reported today that the Cowboys have
offered Ezekiel Elliott a contract that would make him the
(03:29):
second highest paid running back in the NFL. So logically
you figure it's somewhere in between Leveon Bell's deal, which
is thirteen point one million per or Anti Gurley's deal,
which is the highest paid fourteen point four million per year.
So the one question I throw out to you, mister Parker,
(03:50):
if you're Zeke, do you sign right now? Absolutely not.
I'm holding out for the highest paid contract. That's what
I want. That's where it. How boys are I have
them over a barrel. Jerry Jones is trying to win.
They need me more than they need Dak. I'm going
for all of it. If they can come that close,
(04:11):
they can go over it. Dallas Cowboys have plenty of money. Well,
I am with you in that I would not sign
right now if I'm Zeke because I feel like if
I'm him, I can get that contract anytime I want it.
I don't think they're going down. So, like I've said,
and Jerry right right, Well, there was a didn't he say?
(04:35):
Jerry Jones said a few weeks ago that they've made
all three of those offensive players dak Amari, Cooper, and
Zeke offers that would have all of them in the
top five. So maybe this, yeah, maybe maybe this is
a bump from maybe was fourth highest paid in the league.
Uh in their latest offer. Who knows, but but right
(04:56):
now reportedly they've offered him the second most month. Here's
what I do. I season without Zeke unless he comes
in and takes the offer we want to give him.
And he has said himself Jerry Jones, that the leverage
once the regular season begins, it's swinging one way or
the other. It's gonna either swing towards Zeke or it's
(05:19):
gonna swing toward the Cowboys. If I'm in zeke shoes,
I can wait and play that game as well. And
if they start the season, say they lose to the Giants,
or say they beat the Giants in a close game,
but they get no production from the running game. Or
say they start one and one and the running game
(05:41):
isn't looking good and they clearly need me. Then I'm
waiting and I'm figuring, all right, Like I said, I
want to be the highest pay running back in the league.
Give me my money, and the Cowboys, I think would acquies.
Now if the running game looks good, say they start
one and old, they destroy the Giants, Pollard runs for
a hundred yards or something like that, they win the
(06:04):
second week, Pollard looks good again, or Alfred Morris or whoever.
I still, if I'm Zeke, I still think that second
highest paid player or running back in the league offer
is on the table. So I then I come and
I take that then, because the fact is, no matter
(06:24):
how good these guys look early on the running backs,
they know the Cowboys understand they need Ezekiel Elliott to
have a strong playoff running and hopefully for them a
Super Bowl run. So if I'm Zeke, I'm just waiting patiently,
just like Jerry Jones may be waiting patiently, and let's
(06:47):
see what happens. In the ray at the start of
the regular season. Yeah, I just think in his situation,
given what we all know about the CBA running backs,
his worth, how good the team is with him, he's
in a special situation. He's just you could say he's
replaceable and act like he doesn't matter. I think he
(07:07):
would be doing the Cowboys their fans a disservice in
setting them up not to have their best team when
the season opens. Let's not forget the Eagles are healthy
and have a tremendous roster. Most people are picking the
Eagles to win the NFC East and have a shot
(07:30):
at the super Bowl. That's how loaded their roster is.
You don't want to come in and be the Cowboys
and be shorthanded and not have your player, your best player,
who I think is their best player. So that's what
you're looking at. And I think that's why Zeke is
in a great position. He knows Jerry wants to win.
He knows the Eagles are on paper a better team,
(07:53):
definitely and especially without him, And he also knows that, Yeah,
I don't think they're a better team. The Eagles are
a better team on paper, Oh I do than the
Zeke thinks that, Oh yeah, he knows, I might not
say it perfect. What do you think that because that
team's already a lot of those players have won a
(08:14):
super Bowl and have that experience with them. Going back
with the quarterback who was on the verge of winning
before he was in the one that was five and
six last year, the one who was on the verge
of winning a and that was that's history, baby, I'm
talking about. Well, you go and look at all the
rankings of the Eagles and Cowboys, and most people have
the Eagles. But I'm saying Zeke, I believe Zeke is
(08:36):
looking at it like the Eagles are better than us
on paper. He is, especially without him on the team.
I do believe that. I think he thinks. You think
he thinks the Eagles are better or not better than
them if he's not on the on the if he's
not on the Cowboys, I don't I think certainly with
him on the Cowboys, he thinks the Cowboys are better
(08:58):
on paper. I'm talking about them off he probably thinks.
I mean, he's look, he's I agree with you, he's
their best certainly their best offensive player. Um, and he
probably feels like they need me to be the you know,
to go as far as they can to probably beat
the Eagles. But initially you had said he thinks the
(09:18):
Eagles have a better roster. I'm talking about you said
especially without him, which I thought you meant both ways. No,
I do mean both ways. I think I don't think
he thinks that. I think he thinks we're better than
the Eagles if I'm there. But where I'm with you
is that I would be saying saying the same thing
(09:39):
as you if the schedule was harsher at the beginning,
like say they opened with the Eagles, I would not
be advocating or believing that Jerry Jones was gonna take
this tact and you know, wait till the first or
second game of the season is played, that that would
be a huge loss, you know, and you're, yeah, you
(10:02):
want to go into that game, you know, at full bore.
Or even if it was another you know, some other
good teams, maybe even a Carolina who I know was
down last year, but I think they're gonna have a
good year, or the Rams. You know, if it was
a top a playoff contending team or a team super
Bowl contending team, but because they open with the Giants,
whose defense is young, who's you know, who are half
(10:26):
their receiving corps is gonna be out the first game.
And you got Ela Eli Manny who obviously has been
on the downside. Then you got Washington, which you know
they got some talent, but young, nobody expects much from them.
Who's gonna be their quarterback? And then Miami, which is
expected to be one of the worst teams in the league.
So looking at the way they open, I believe if
(10:49):
I'm the Cowboys and I think we're a legit Super
Bowl contender with Zeke, I also feel like we can
beat those teams even without Zeke, and I'm willing to
take that that bet or at risk, certainly in the
first game of the season. Yeah, I guess. I mean,
I just if I just look at the Cowboys as
(11:09):
a team that they think they have everything in place
and they're looking to finally make that Super Bowl run
that they haven't been able to, and it just seems
like Jerry's rolling the dice here and it could wind
up costing them. It'll be interesting to see as you
get closer, when the game's really mattering counting, We'll see
what happens with Jerry and if he decides that he
(11:31):
wants to play hardball, I just wouldn't play hardball if
I really believe that team has a chance to win
and all he wants to do is win one more time.
I believe that that Jerry Jones more than anything, even
more than getting into the Hall of Fame, he just
wants to be able to win, because I think the
worst part for Jerry Jones would be that he never
(11:54):
won again after him and Jimmy Johnson split. Basically, and
I know Barry Switzer won the next year with Jimmy's team,
but basically that it wound up being Jerry running a
mom and pop store and they and they won two
or three playoff games over twenty five years. I think
I think that says more about Jerry Jones than the
three out of four championships when he first took over
(12:15):
the team. Well, I think that's why he's trying to
keep these guys together, you know, And that's why he's
trying to I mean, you saw they signed Jalen Smith.
They're trying to keep Byron Jones, you know. So I
think all of that, I think you're right, he's learned
from that and he's motivated by those years of missing
the playoffs and now that he's got a team that
has won a playoff game, has gone you know, fairly
(12:38):
deep in the playoffs, certainly for them over the last
twenty years, right for them. It's I think he is
trying to keep all these guys together. And look, it's negotiating,
so obviously, you know, he may be saying these things
for the media, you know, but he looks like he's
playing hardball with the things that he has said. He
(13:01):
looks like he's gonna play hardball. I feel stronger about
my prediction that he's gonna let this go into the
first or second week of the season now, just be
based on the things he said recently. But we'll see,
and let's throw it out to the callers eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox A seven seven nine nine
(13:21):
six sixty three sixty nine, You're turning the way in. Reportedly,
the Cowboys have offered Ezekiel Ellie to contract that would
make him the second highest paid running back in the league.
Should he take it, You're turning away In Fox Sports Radio,

United States of America only, Rob, What did you do?
The up set? DJ? Tischert nothing not enoughpset him. I
(14:25):
wanted he opens up with Threes Company, a little something different.
I wanted to hear a little threes Company. That was
a show absolutely golden Girls. No, I just wanted to
mix it up a little bit. And uh, I like
Threes Company and I love mister Furli on that show.
(14:46):
I thought I thought Don Knox was hilarious on that show.
That was of all the people on the show, that's
the first that comes to mind. Mister Yeah, who'd you
like on that show? Couldn't have summers really. Yeah, the
dumb Blonde, that's it. Yeah, okay, and Jack he was funny.
John Ritter was great. He was Okay, too much fun
(15:09):
those down well he that that he got that physical
brand to human. Yeah he was. That was his comedy,
you know that always fallen into But it was a
good show. It was. It's the Odd Couple of Fox
Sports Radio. M. Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Chris,
you're ready, let's do it. Jump in with Richard in California.
You're on the Odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Richard? Hey,
(15:32):
you guys love the show. Thank you. Okay, there is
a huge elephant in the room here that I'm surprised
Jerry hasn't learned by now to face the facts. He's
not going to the super Bowl, not with this team. Periods.
Got even with Zeke. That's right with Zeke. He's not
(15:54):
going to get to the super Bowl. He's got to
get past the Rams. He's gotta get past the Eagles
and don't know who else in their division. But they
are not gonna get past those two teams. They're they're
they're good, but I don't think they're that good. I
think the NFL, as we've learned, look other than the Patriots. Man,
it's year to year. No, I don't think. I don't.
(16:17):
I think that the Cowboys are in the mix, but
I don't expect them to be in the super Bowl.
I really don't know. I'm with the call of Richard,
but I will say this, Jerry has a better chance
than he has had for most of the last twenty
five years. So that's why this is important to him
and why he can't blow this. Chris, do you know
what I'm saying. I hear you. I hear you, and
(16:40):
I'm with you. I would not pick the Cowboys to
come out of the NFC. I'm not picking him to
get to the super Bowl. But I do think they
have a chance. I do think that. I mean, nobody
thought Philadelphia was gonna get to the super Bowl, especially
once Carson Wentz went down. No, so I think it's
it's open. Look at Carolina one year they're great, the
next they're horrible. So I think in the NFL they're talented.
(17:03):
They're one of the more talented teams in the league,
and ain't do have a shot in the NFC. You
got the Bears with that great defense the Bears are.
I think they can potentially right the Bears. You got
Aaron Rodgers coming back. He's always in if he's healthy, Chris,
They're always in the mix. So so there's a couple
of teams. New Orleans has a chip on its shoulder
from what happened. They got something to prove. They felt
(17:26):
like they got jobbed out of the Super Bowl two
years in a row, Chris. If you really want to
think about it, with the Viking, Eric, you know a
couple of years ago. They they want to get back.
So it's gonna be tough. But I think the Dallas
Cowboys are one of those teams. And I say that too.
I think they were in the mix. What about Michael
and Denver? Michael and Denver, You're you're on the odd
(17:47):
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Michael? What's up? Fellas?
I appreciate you guys, and Michael real quick. My next
tour stop is Denver tomorrow. You got a wing spot
that I need to make sure I stopped by when
I'm in Denver. I only work in Denver. I actually
live in Boulder. Okay, I'm not too familiar with the spot.
(18:11):
No sweat. If anybody later on it calls the show
from Denver, give me a wing spot to eat at. Okay,
I're definitely trying to go to a Rockies game, though,
No the ute of town. They're out of town. They're
out of town. Well the point of making I agree
that it's tough. Oh we're losing. We lost him. That's bad.
(18:34):
All right. Vince in Chicago, you're on the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Vince? What's up? TB?
What's up Big Rob? What's happening? I love the show, guys. First,
before I get to my point, Rob, you're my hometown, man,
I gotta know his Big Rob gonna make it lighted
up in Shottown tonight like he did atl Oh yeah,
oh yes tonight. Man, We're gonna figure out the show
(18:58):
was over. I'm hanging out for some cocktails, adult beverages,
and then we'll see what the Knight has for Viz.
He can only do that once every seven months, so
you're enough raid tail all right, guys. For me, it's
real simple. Zeke should take this offer based on guarantees.
I don't know the whole detail around how much total
(19:19):
guarantees there was, but that's the only number that I
care about it. I don't care about the second most
paid Girly got forty five million. Livyon Bell got twenty
seven million guaranteed. If if ve gets as much guaranteed
as Todd Gurley, then he should take this offer. That's it.
This is what look, I've money. It's about the guaranteed money.
(19:42):
I don't care about the other stuff, right, I agree
with you on that. However, I think that offered. Whatever
this offer is, I think it's gonna be on the
table like it's staying on the table. I don't think
Dallas is coming down, Okay, So no, no, that's why
I find him. I can only you know, by waiting
(20:03):
seeing how they look in the first game or two.
I really can only benefit, right if they if they struggle,
then I'm gonna get more than this. And if they
play well, I feel like I can still get this deal.
That's why they can't pull it and make it less,
because then then you would have a player who's who's
who's uh you know what I mean, has a feeling
(20:24):
for the team in the organization. So I agree with you.
And as you said, Rob, no matter how good they
look in the first two games. I mean to get
where they want to get to. They need Zeke, no
doubt about it. Sean and Sacramento, you're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up Sean? What's up
with your big Rode? What's up Chris Man? How y'all
doing today? What's happening? Brother? When where's the ride to?
(20:48):
Are gonna make it a Sacramento man? We got a
lot of young college girls trying to make some money,
a lot of ticket to get aid out here. Man, Well,
that's it's gonna happen. Man, I ain't next, next, the next,
the next wave. There'll be another way, Tom And I
told you man, once every seven months, no no, no
ones every seven months. Rod sound a little tired. He
(21:08):
sound like you're still shaking off them costs on atl Man. Man,
it's it's been a crazy, uh a little trip. But
all right, what you got you on? I heard that, man,
But hey, hey, he gotta take this deal. I think
he's already being disrespectful by trying to hold out on
a guy who went head to head with the commissioner
on his behalf and been sticking with him through what
three seats three off season of the trouble now, so
(21:31):
I think he has to take this deal. If I
was Dallass, I wouldn't make it go high. I want
to make go a lower state right where you're at,
because at the end of the day, no matter how
many of these luxury items, running backs, wide receivers you
pick up, you still got to pay that old line
in D line in a couple of years. So you
gotta save a little money for the guys that really matter. Yeah,
but Sean, here's the only problem with that. You can't
play that game because when you do it, do you
(21:52):
want him back feeling good about the organization, or do
you want him back this grunnle feeling like you offered
me this and I was trying to do what was
in the best interest of me and my family, and
now you're gonna give me a lower contract. I don't
think that's how you bring somebody back that that works
against you, it doesn't work for you. But you gotta
(22:13):
look at it like this. He's been They've been treating
him like family, you know what I mean. They've treated
him like a member of the family. They've gone to
bath with this guy, and he's still over here asking
for more. Do you see them lowering this offer at
any point? I don't see them lowering it. But I
also don't see them caving into any other demands that
he's gonna happen. But if they lose to the Giants
in week one, yes, that's just weak one man. It's
(22:36):
a it's a twelve, it's a it's a sixteen game
rights division division game show. That could be the difference
between winning the division and being a wild card. Look
at the NFC East every single year it comes down
to the end of the year. Every single year they
could they can end up four games. The games are close,
and every game is important, just like Jerry Jones stands
(23:00):
to gain leverage by looking good in the first game
or two. So to Zeke. So it's a game of
you know, Chicken, rob. If I'm I'm willing to play it,
and if I'm Jerry, I'm willing to play it. And Chris,
you wouldn't be in a holdout if you weren't willing
to play it, right, you know what I mean? You
wouldn't be here if you if you were weak and
(23:21):
you were just like, oh my god, I'll just want
the money. Whatever they give me I'm gonna take then
you wouldn't be in a holdout. You cam, no doubt
one of the biggest stars in sports may have lied
right to your face. We will get to the bottom
of that next but first be sure to catch live
editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob
Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific. It's time,
(23:45):
folks for Celebrity Corner. Oh my god, I know for
The Odd Couple. Celebrity Corner. You know we always uh
it's it's the theme show Thursday. And Rob and I
both fans of great shows on television, and one of
(24:05):
the shows I've been watching lately really enjoy it is
HBO's Insecure, and one of the stars of that show
joins us now sarunas Jackson sarunas What's happening? What's happening?
We're great, man. So you guys made a show about
Chris's career as a newspaper reporter to New York Times Insecure.
(24:29):
When you at the New York Times, there's no need
to be insecure, trust that. Lloyd's But hey, man, we're
excited to have you on the show. You also are
on BT's Games, People Play and Good Trouble on Hulu
and free Form. But you are, I mean you're six
(24:51):
eight number one, so you're obviously tall for that because
most actors are smaller than we think. Is that correct?
A lot of times? I mean there are a few
of us that are, you know, that are taller and
there on some of my favorite shows, there are some
taller actors, but for the majority, yeah, yeah, they they're
(25:11):
not They're not the tallers out there, you know. The
special things with you like you know, if you're with
shorter actors, do they put them one in a box
or anything like that? For some scenes? Um yeah, I've
been lucky enough though to like, like on Insecure, that's
a taller cast. So like Jay Ellis is like six
four himself, Yvonne and Ess are about five nine themselves.
(25:33):
So like you know, Ivonne wears hills. It's just kind
of seems like a normal height difference between a man
and a woman. Um, but on these other shows, there
have been times where you know, the girls are wearing
hills and um, you know, putting them on an apple
box or something, or I sit down and you know
it's it's been pretty easy to do. Sharon is Uh.
(25:53):
I was gonna say. I ran in to Wesley Snipes
at a New Year's Eve party and I could not
believe how short he was. I really, when I met him,
I wanted to pick him up. I mean, I just
you would have blamed you. That's why I'm saying it
on the radio. You know. Yeah, there's people that you'll meet,
(26:18):
you know. And I mean like when I played a
uh when a good friend was Malcolm Washington. His father's
Denzel Washington. I remember meeting him for the first time
and I was like, okay, you know, I like, kid,
how good is he about? You know, getting five ten?
You know? Okay, so he's a lot of these guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
(26:40):
He's not tiny or anything like that. But you know,
just as a young you know, being younger in my mind,
he was like six two sixty. I mean he played
Malcolm back. So I was like, all right, three exactly
right right right now? You mentioned AU and uh, you
played with Denzel Washington's son. You played with Tyler honeycut
(27:03):
friend of mine. Yeah, Tyler Honeycutt. Yeah, he was a
very good friend of mine, very talented guy. Yeah. I
just don't think he was getting the proper opportunity. But
he he was someone else, very versatile, um and athletic
with his size and combination of skills. I mean, you
know you don't go to UCLA and start for no reason,
right right? And the biggest guy of course, you played
(27:23):
with Paul George. Yeah. Now he has said he grew
up a Clipper fan but also a Kobe fan. Is
that true or is he just telling that? You know
for then you're trying to have him dropped dome on Paul.
I'm just asking. I've only confirmed the Kobe. I knew
he was a Kobe fan from a just conversation that
(27:44):
some of the players had a munch each other when
we were at workouts and stuff. But um, I couldn't
confirmed the team. I wouldn't. I wouldn't be able to
tell you that. But I do know he was a
Kobe fan at a lot of the guys and uh
under the pump and running m Brella like a lot
of those guys they are player with Kobe. Now here's
the other thing too. Since you're six foot eight, I'm
six foot four and I've been asleep on game whatsoever.
(28:06):
Whatever it does a matter I was. I would be
asleep and the first class seat and they would wake
me up. I'm not even kidding you. I'm six four,
I'm not that at all. And they would say, what
team do you play for? The flight attendants would come over.
Everybody on the player wants to know what team you
played for? Does not happen to you because you're six
(28:27):
foot eight, you know what I mean? And people think
that you played for some team. I mean here, here's
the thing. Also, what's funny is a hot people recognizing
for the work I do. So there'll be people that
take pictures with me. So then when people who don't
know me, um, they're automatically assuming right away that I'm
a hoop that I'm playing for somebody. Yeah, Uma, the
(28:49):
number Wolves. No, nobody watched Nimberwolds. Look at you. I'm
with that, man, I'm with that. I'm mad at you.
I you know. I think in advantage of perks, like
I remember being in Chicago that long ago doing press
for games people play, and um, there was like an
older couple there, they're like there season. They told me
(29:11):
they're season ticket holders of the Bulls and gave me
the whole breakdown they were talking to me about and
I was like, Oh, they're telling me all this because
they think I'm on the bulls because I might a
picture of me a waiter did and they live in
Alaska and they're like asking, like, so, will you be
on the team this year again, or like what's going on.
I'm like, well, you know how the business is. We'll
see what's going on. You know. They brought me drinks
and stuff. I was like, oh, thank yeah, yeah it's
(29:35):
Denzel Valentine. Yeah, real talk. Yeah that's funny because yeah, yeah,
I can see that. It was just like it's like
when people see Chris and they say, aren't you the
light skinned guy from Kid and Play and they want
an autograph or whatever. Step Yeah, I don't shoot it
(29:58):
quite as well as him. You know. It's quiet. Yeah,
they shooting at Jay in the airport and they think
your stuff all right? S Rutus, Look, I wanted to
get to this man. We're joined by actor Serrunus Jackson
from HBO's Insecure BTS games. People play your character in
Insecure is in is married, but he's in an open marriage. Now,
(30:26):
Rod Parker was only married five years. If he had
been able to be marriage. He might still be married,
all right, I've been married twenty four years. It ain't open,
it's very closed. But is that how you rolling in
real life? I don't think. I know you're not married,
but when you get married, is that something you would
be open to? You know? Uh, it's funny, like it
(30:47):
just seems I've become the faith of open relationship now,
or like of advice and you know coming, you know,
people will come to me for a bite with that stuff.
It's kind of funny. Um, as far as like dating,
I'm not opposed to that, you know, the openness of it,
but I have across that bridge when it comes to
marriage thinking about that yet, just because that's just not
(31:07):
in my that's just a little foggy yet. You know,
I don't see that far head yet. But um, you
know that's something Marriage is a whole, you know, it's
a whole different conversation than just dating or in a relationship,
you know, just boys and a girlfriend, as you fellas
would know. So for me, it would just depend on
the person you're with, how secure and comfortable we are,
(31:30):
how you know, how much we respecting one another and
are there clear cut boundaries if we both would be
able to handle that in a marriage, because that's a
lot to ask for one a marriage. So I'm not
I'm not sure about all that. But as far as
the dating, yeah, I'm open to the idea when it
comes to just dating, you know, when we're dating, right,
I don't understand the idea of why even getting married.
Just be single and be a bachelor and see who
(31:53):
you want. I don't understand other days, Leonardo DiCaprio for
the rest of your life, right, I mean, there's nothing
wrong with that. You're honest. They know what you're about.
Either you're either you want to be you know, a
part of it, or you don't. And I respect that.
I don't. I don't understand why you need to get
married to see other people. That makes no sense to me.
(32:14):
I think also, like you know, you just kind of
have to um for me. You know, if it works
for somebody, it works for somebody who you know, I
can't tell somebody if if I've met people before, though,
especially now, portraying a roll up drove on insecure that
a lot of people have told me like, yeah, I'm
(32:34):
in an open relationship where I'm in an open marriage
and Honestly, I've seen a lot of happy couples like that,
and if that works for them, that works with them,
because a lot of them are treated like even though
they're open, people just think that they're automatically. I hear
whild and all the time, and that's not true. Like
every once in a while might happen, you know, every
once in a while, but it doesn't really happen as
often as people would think. You know. They just think
(32:55):
it's an automatic path to just be like, all right,
you know, let's act like were in college. That's that's
that's not the case for U or something. I can
see you guys liking it. I could see guys liking
it for their right one sided. But then the idea
of your woman being with other dudes, you know what
I'm saying, Yeah, you gotta you gotta be very comfortable
with yourself to not being to not hold those double
(33:16):
standards to yourself to be like you know, you know,
well I'm gonna do that then, but you can't. You know,
it's it's like, well, there'll be a realistic then you
just don't do your thing. Then if you don't want
her doing her things, then you know what I mean,
that's that's that's the that's the main cash with the
Fellers for it, because a lot of women have been
more comfortable to be like insecure, to be like okay,
if that's the thing, you know, then you have to
also have a like be us comfortable allowing let allowing
(33:39):
you to do that. You know that that's the cash.
So you know, all right? It's Serunis Jackson, the actor
up and coming actor HBO's Insecure BT Games People Play.
You also can see him in Old Spice's latest ad
campaign on their YouTube page and find Swagger the set
of Confidence, where guys grooming products are sold include me,
(34:00):
Walmart or a Target. So keep up the great work, Manu.
And we I know obviously you're a hoop head, so
we we have guys come in on the show. Leon
the actor, he came in did the show with us
for an hour, can talk basketball, So we want to
get you in like that as well. If you want
to come in and talk some hoop for an hour,
(34:21):
oh for sure, Yeah, let me know. I'd definitely love
to do that. And um, you know, I appreciate talking
to you guys. And before you guys, let me to
go Chris, there's something that you have said recently that
I had been preaching for years and as something I
wish I was stuck with. I almost went to North
Carolina at right an HBCU because my I wish I
(34:41):
was able to like this convinced. I was like telling, like, Yo,
you're a top ten recruit. If just three of y'all
decided to go to one HBC, you could really flip
that upside down. No, No, that was you were talking
about something. That's something I've been preaching for a long time.
So I would love to talk to you about that
more too. Thank you the Skeltic. The talent is right
(35:01):
and if you know you won't and done, you know
what I mean? What's right? What's especially then? So yeah,
I'm going to Howard. You know what's gonna happen, you
know what I mean exactly. Make sure Rob g gets
yourself and we'll be in touch on that because other
people about that absolutely, And tell folks check out the
Offlove campaign on YouTube. Tell you it's hilarious. All right,
(35:23):
we'll do. Thanks, brother, It's the I couple of Fox

Brussar Rob Park on a TV theme show Thursday, and
(36:06):
this is what what show is this? I know? This
is Maud Maud Okay. Now Maud was happily married. Correct,
Yes she was very tough, but happily married. Yes she
was absolutely Um, So we go do an impromptu shop
talk Rob be based on that interview with Sarunas Jackson.
The aye, let me we will do that. Let me
just say this real quick, Chris, I got a uh
(36:28):
my best friend Fred and his wife were in the
car listening to the show, which is great. Fred and
Ib used to play baseball together. They've been mad. Happy
anniversary to them the Roysters fifteen years Chris married, great
twenty five years together and their grandson princes in the backseat.
So those guys will listening. Happy anniversary to those guys,
(36:48):
Happy anniversary. That's right. I love them. I love them,
both of them, and I bet it's not an open marriage.
It's not an open marriage, trust me. So what let's
bring That's what we're gonna do, the quick impromptu shop
talk on what are your thoughts are? Obviously I'm against it.
I mean, just my religious convictions. I wouldn't couldn't be
an open marriage. But even taking that aside as a man,
(37:11):
if I really love the woman, it's hard for me
to be all right with her getting with other dudes. Now,
if we both just we like each other, with great friends,
and you know, we want to do our own thing.
We think business is a marriage is a business situation
where you know, we gotta have kids. You know we're
both successful. You know you do your thing, I do
(37:32):
my thing. We get along. Well, that's that might be
one thing, But I can't see if I really love
the woman, I can't see it. I just don't understand
to me, if you once you make a commitment to somebody,
I don't think that other people should be involved. That's
why you should stay a bachelor or stay single if
you if you want variety and a spice of life
(37:53):
and you're not into Chris, you know, eating vanilla ice
cream every night. I mean for some people at works
and are happy. Is that what you're saying marriages? I'm
just saying cream. I just had some brown batter ice
cream last week. I might have some other stuff, some
(38:13):
chocolate so up, I might have some bananas on it.
You just don't know. Rob g. You're happily married. What's
your thoughts? Robbers as happy as anybody, that's right. I'm
very happily married. But you know, back in the day,
I did have my own uh CB era of my
life where I was into some things as we all
know behind the scenes. Look, if I'm single and I
(38:35):
want to go full Leo DiCaprio, cool, be with wherever
you want. But if you're in any kind of relationship,
you got to be committed. There will be no open
relationships from me. I agree, Alex. So, guys, if you
being from the younger generation here, not married, not in
a relationship. If you look up monogamy in the dictionary,
it is now a type of wood. Relationships is not
(38:56):
a thing as I'm noticing, it's more so free open
and free spirited. So I mean, I'm for one that
people shouldn't be getting as married as much because they
don't stay together. They shouldn't be getting married. Yes, I
don't you know what wood is good in a relationship.

into something that Adam Schefter, a great reporter from our
old network, Rob reported recently or he was on the
radio show in Boston and he was saying that he
(40:05):
thinks this should be or this could be not should be,
This could be Tom Brady's final season when you look
at his house being on the market, when you look
at this contract situation within being avoidable after this season.
We will get to that in a few moments. But
there's some interesting developments up in Winnipeg where the Green
Bay Packers are playing a preseason game. Rob G phillis
(40:28):
in on what's going on here. That's right, it's the
Packers against the Raiders. The NFL decided to play the
game in Canada, you know, to expand their brand and
you know, building to a new market. The only problem
is the CFL field is bigger than the NFL field.
So what they decided to do was fill in a
hole where the CFL goalposts are. And apparently the field's
(40:48):
not safe anymore because of that. People have issues with
the turf. So now the NFL has decided, hey, we're
just gonna play the game on a shortened field. Rumor
has it's going to be eighty yards. Still waiting for
confirmation on that, but it's gaming an eighty yard field
for tonight's preseason game against the Raiders and Packers. This
is ridiculous. No, but this is the NFL, Chris. This
(41:09):
happens over and over. It's embarrassing for league of this size.
And because it happened in Mexico. Do you remember that
they didn't play the game in Mexico? They played that
Kansas City game Kansas City and the Rams. Remember that
they played it to Coliseum at usc Remember because the
field wasn't right, it wasn't ready. Why are they doing
(41:32):
this with these athletes who are worth millions of dollars
and have their careers hanging in the balance. Why do
they keep doing this? It doesn't make sense. I would
refuse to play on the eighty yard field, Chris. Why
why are they playing on an eighty yard field? Right?
You getting no benefit out of it? It does, You're
not getting any benefit out of it, and the fans
(41:53):
that you're trying to impress aren't gonna get any benefit
out of it either. It's terrible. Give the people money
back and just admit that you botched it again. Just
do it. How long have they known they were going
to Canada? I don't know, again, but I'm sure it's been,
you know, a long time. Schedules their fields are longer
(42:16):
all right wider, I believe as well. So you you
have plenty of time to make the accommodations. I get it,
they may be playing games over there for the CFL,
but still you're the NFL. You got billions of dollars.
You could have made the proper accommodations as opposed to
this mess. This is this is ridiculous, always doing it
(42:37):
on the cheap. Somebody should have been up there way
before Chris Uh, the night before they're playing the game
and their teams are coming across the border. This should
be already figured out. And if you can't have a
feel that's ready a week before that, we know for
sure our players can play on that. We're not going
to sign the paperwork. Do you understand what I'm saying.
(43:00):
We're not going to do the game. We need to
make sure when our guys get off the plane in
Canada that they're going to be able to play. It's
a way we we just we've seen this over and over.
Thank god they canceled the game in Mexico. You remember
they had to cancel him. Yeah, I mean, you can't
put these guys on the field. That's not safe. This
(43:21):
is a job for jay Z don't you bring him
in down? Oh God, remember Reggie Bush got hurt in
New Orleans, Chris. He gotta settle man. He gottah didn't
that they have to pay him he got I ain't
pay sad. It's so Bush league. It's the NFL. This
is Aaron Rodgers, maybe the greatest quarterback ever, Chris. Can
(43:45):
you imagine if he got hurt in the preseason game
on a jankie field. Rodgers is not playing, by the way,
which I'm not mad at even if the field we're fine.
I'm not mad at it. No, I'm not, you know,
but I got too much. He's been hurt the last
couple of years. They just can't afford to have him
get hurt in the Pots game. This is the type
(44:06):
of gaff that I'm not gonna excuse Antonio Brown, but
it makes you look at him and say, I mean,
they're doing some of the same things in the league level. Yeah,
you know what I mean? Like this is this is
ridiculous as well, Chris. This is embarrassing. Seriously, you got
people sitting in the stands who bought tickets all this
(44:27):
other state play field right eighty yard game and you're
gonna play in an eighty yard whyn't you just go
indoors and play a werena football. Let's just do right, right,
because yeah, let's go seven or seven or seven drills
and give people that money back they should give people.
You know what, I'd start a class action suit if
they play on eighty yards. That's not what I paid for.
(44:49):
I paid for a few World game. You would, I would,
I know, you know I would, all right, I would
try to sue for that, and uh a nine or
ten piece of flat chicken wings to go with the Well,
you're making sense on this, Rod Parker, but this next topic,
I know you're not gonna make any sense on Tom Brady?
(45:11):
Should this be his last season? I can guess what
your take is, But why don't you tell us did
you see him in the Super Bowl? Did you see
the forty one year old ten man couldn't move around,
the one that won the Super Bowl? No? No, no,
the twelve over two hundred yards? You mean the guy
who the guy who was on the team that won
(45:33):
the Super Bowl. And you know what all we have
to do if you're the Patriots and Patriot faithful was
let's go to the highlight of Tom Brady season, and
here we go right here on radio. Worst throwing ten
years by Tom Brady. Yes we know it, tom By,
with Tom Brady not throwing a touchdown, with Tom Brady
(45:53):
throwing a pick, with Tom Brady fumbling the football, looking
like an old man at the store trying to hold
on to his melons that fell out of the card.
He just couldn't be able to do what he needs
to do. He's now forty two years old. And that's
why chrism the Patriots gave him a contract with no
guaranteed anything after this year, because they know, deep down,
(46:14):
if they really believe Tom Brady could play the forty five,
they could have given him a contract and set Tom
here you go. But they know he can't play anymore.
I'm putting you on the hot seat because I'm tired
of hearing it. I hear it every time we talk,
Tom Brady, I want you to pick a side. Which
is it? So? Two years ago, he throws for five
(46:35):
hundred plus yards, the most ever thrown for in a
playoff game in the Super Bowl and they lose. Okay,
last year, he throws for two hundred and sixty two yards.
Not a bad day by the way, no touchdowns, one pick,
but they win, but in a fumble, but they win.
(46:56):
Now you gotta pick which side, which one do you want?
Because you can't keep killing him for they eat three
they lost. He threw for four hundred yards, did doesn't matter?
They lost. But then when they dude, he only threw
for two d He didn't even throw for three hundred yards.
He didn't throw for a touchdown. Which is it? We
will at the individual yardage or do you want the
(47:18):
w No, it's both because in that first game up
with the five ye yard Chris, it's a best not
about yards, it's about points. And you know that he
left points on the on the on the field. He
also had the key fumble that cost him the game
with two and a half minutes to go. He fumbled
the ball and the Eagles got it and then they shot.
(47:38):
They lost. He get coughed up the football with twenty
threw for five hundred Remember the touchdown yard that he
that he couldn't catch. Yeah, he didn't play the perfect game.
I tell me the next guy that plays the perfect game.
And then here four hundred and five yards, three touchdowns,
zero interceptions. Do you put up points on us go
(48:00):
up boarder, you put up yards? Which one? Which one
do you do? You calculate when it come time to
win as it points or yards. They put up thirty
three points, they put up thirty three points. It wasn't
you put up thirty three points, you should win. Wasn't
on the offense. It wasn't enough. They put up twenty
one in the second half. Don't put that on the offense.
And you know how you and I are robbed. Don't
(48:22):
play defense. I'm not because they'd he closed for eight
hundred yards and they lose, you don't give him any credit.
But if he if he throws for two hundred yards
and they win, you don't give him any credit. Well,
but he didn't help him win. He had one hundred
and sixty two yards? Is that helping team win? That
(48:44):
lasting two? What two sixty two? You you're making a
big deal about two hundred. That super Bowl, I am
was one of the super Bowls I've ever seen. And
I've been watching super Bowls since the eighties? Did they
all super Bowl? And Tom Brady, Look, it doesn't I
don't care if it's pretty. It's about the w And
(49:12):
let me get to the point now, the Patriots. If
they thought he could play the least forty five, they
would have gave him. They don't know. I'm I'm mad
at the Patriots because none of us know at some point,
Father Time's gonna get him at some point. As much
as I like Tom Brady, he's not invincible, he's not superman.
He's going to get got by Father Time at some point.
(49:35):
So I'm not mad at the Patriots for saying, let's
play a year by year. You know you're morty two.
But if he comes out, here's the deal. If he
comes out and plays well, and at worst, rob and
you said it, their division is weak, so they're gonna
make the playoffs. So they're at worst case scenario unless
(49:57):
Brady just completely falls off the cliff. Worst case scenario,
they're getting to the playoffs and losing their first game.
I think if that happens and Brady plays fairly well,
that's going to be enough for him enough drive, enough
of a challenge, enough motivation for him to want to
come back one more year and see if he can
(50:18):
get back over the top. So I don't think and
again and if he falls off the cliff, by all means,
he should retire. But if he does it, and I
don't think he will, I think they gotta. If they're
healthy and Josh Gordon is mentally healthy and able to
stay on the team, I think they're gonna have a
good receiving corps, good running game. Then they don't have
(50:39):
the tight ends obviously without Gronk, but I think they're
gonna be a have a good season, and I think
that'll be enough to bring Brady back. Yeah, I just
don't think that team is as good, um because they've
lost people and Gronk was a big part of it.
But I tell you that they win the Super Bowl
without Runk. Yeah, that was lucky that no matter what.
(50:59):
They was one, but they were down twenty eight to
three in Atlantic come back the biggest. It was the
biggest choke I've ever seen in sports. I'm telling you
that was the biggest choked state. I'm sorry, No, that
was another one. That was another choke. That was another
great choke. No, those are chokes, Chris, and you know it.
(51:20):
I'll give teams credit for coming back. That was a
choke job. Seventy three wins during the regular season, all
the stuff they did, and then they lost three games
in a row, including two at home. Monster. No, he
wasn't so he was really good. Kyrie was unbelievable. But anyway,
my point is, say that they're done with him. Could
(51:41):
you see Tom Brady in another uniform? You know, we
talked about a lot of great quarterbacks have finished elsewhere,
a lot of Jets uniform. He wore Vikings uniform. He
started that for a minute arrival to the rivals in
the division. Yep, uh, you meant you know? You always
(52:03):
mentioned Joe Montan of Peyton Manning. Many of the all
time greats We've seen it, Joe, Joe namath Um, Johnny
Unitis who was a Baltimore cult for a long time.
They all finished with other teams. Yeah, I'm gonna say no,
I think he wants his legacy to be with the
(52:23):
Patriots now. He does love the game, and I mean
he because I think Jordan when he went to the Wizards,
he didn't hurt his legacy at all. But I'm just
saying to see him in and just see him in
that uniform is all I'm saying. So you think it
would be a mistake of Brady to go to another team, Yeah,
to go to Jacksonville and play, not that it would
(52:44):
be yeah, but you know what I mean, like, yeah,
a lot of people wouldn't just say, oh he's old.
Some people would, the objective people would, but they're a
lotty Brady, a lot of Brady haters out there, and
they would say, oh, see it was let check you
know what I mean. You know, that's the other that's
the other danger if he does do that, I don't
agree with that. They would say, see he's not with
(53:07):
Belichick and look how terrible he is. The system's not working,
so he has a lot more to lose in that situation.
So I agree with that. I agree with See the
Patriots unless this guy they just drafted that that some
people like, you know, really wise them in practice. You know,
if they had Garoppolo still, I could see it, you know,
(53:28):
them just being like, look, you know, we got to
the first round of the playoffs again or you know,
second round whatever. You didn't look at you're not what
you used to be. We're going for Jimmy g But
they don't have that guy, and they don't have that
guiding right now. No they don't, but they could also Chris.
What they could do is get a stopgap guy you know,
a stop gap while you're while you're getting a quarterback
(53:49):
this coming draft. Do you know what I think they again,
if Brady, If Brady's solid, let's let's say solid, and
they get to the playoffs, lose their first game, they're
not going to a stop gap guy. No, I'm I'm
not on that. It depends on what Brady really looks like.
And are you winning because of Sony Michelle? Are you
(54:09):
winning because of defense? I'm just saying, Chris his touchdowns
in the second half of it were down his interception
and his numbers better than Aaron Rodgers. No, we're not
talking about but they were the greatest story. Rodgers had
twenty two picks, That's what he had. But completion percentage, yard,
y'all that Brady Brady was was better overall. You know this,
(54:34):
He wasn't better in the second half. I'm telling you.
If you go look at the numbers and look at
that they won the Super Bowl, it doesn't second half
of the season doesn't matter. He played poorly. What about
those passes to Gronk late in the games? I mean,
come on on, fight, did you watch the first half
of the Super Bowl? I watched you walk out of
(54:55):
the AFC Championship with your head tail between your legs,
looking like you want to beat somebody. Air. I needed air.
All right, Well, this be Tim Brady's final season in
New England. You're turned away in eight seven seven ninety
nine O. Fox will continue the conversation with you. Next
it's The Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris

and affiliates product unavailable in every state there it is,
(55:45):
and no, Rob, I like it. We're not singing. No now,
I'm holies. Please don't rob your dog. It's the Eye Couple.
And if you threw a party, I said, and I did.
Everyone you knew you would see, the biggest gift would
(56:07):
be beat. And what you're talking about you're behind, You're behind,
not on my not on my head. Right on my money.
All right? All right, when it comes to selling or
trading in your car, you need to make good choices.
And with true Car you've got to start on your rosters.
So when you're ready to sell or trade in your car,
check out truecr True cash offer not available in all areas.
(56:30):
Let's get to the cars. Rophit, Tom Brady, hang it
up after this season A seven seven ninety nine on Fox,
Your turn to weigh in? All right, let's start with
Marty in Kentucky. You're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What you got, Marty? What's up? Fellows? Marty?
Were you hating man? Man? That interview earlier with Serenis
(56:50):
Jackson was fantastic that that guy did a great job
to be live and be an actress. And I gotta
ask if Christ's you ask humans people staying on a
box because in some of the pictures for podcast New
Things with Rob you stood on a box before. Rob's
not that tall and I'm not that shorty, you see,
(57:11):
And only Rob is on a hater level to sing
Old Canada two months ago and be hating on can Day.
But Tom Brady, Tom Brady, better if if they don't
retain him at the New England. He better hang it
up because he's he's given the haters a chance to
ruin his legacy. And that's all I got to say
about that. That's a good point because because look, in fairness,
(57:34):
if Tom Brady, let's say he were to go somewhere
next season and just plays poorly, it would mainly be
it would pretty much all be or eighty percent of
it eighty five percent because he's forty three years old.
But but it will right, the haters would not give
(57:55):
him that they would give him. They would just rip
him because Belichick is not there no doubt about it.
What about Max in Georgia, You're on the odd couple
Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Max? All right? What's up? Gentleman?
Thank you Rob G for getting a call on h Chris.
You already know it's where I started this yesterday. Rob,
you weren't with the show just yet. But I gotta say,
(58:16):
I want to see it happen. I want to see
him going under the jersey. Um. I'll never say he's
the goat. I talked about why yesterday, but I just
I want to see it, so I hope it happens.
We saw Drew Brees had to get shipped out to
win a title, and did we saw Kurt Warner won
a title and then got shipped out and was a
play away on our defensive, misspap from winning a second title.
(58:38):
So the blueprint is there. And four you'll be forty three.
Though it's how old was Kurt Warner? Kurt? He won't
forty three, all right? I think he was forty or
forty one. I can't remember. But yeah, to see, that's
what I get what you're saying. You if he was
(59:00):
in his prime and you were saying this, I'd be
totally with it. Let's see what he can do without Belichick.
Although I've said seven seasons without Brady, Belichick makes the
playoffs twice. But I get where you're coming from. If
he was in his prime. We don't hold Jordan's Washington
years against him because he was forty years old. Well,
he was also perfect, and it was hard to look
(59:21):
at that and act like that was Michael Jordan, you
know what I mean. And I think there's just more
Tom Brady detractors and people who think that it's Belichick
and not Brady, and uh, and I think it would
it would open the floodgates for people to attack, it would.
How about Quincy and Lake Charles. You're on the odd couple,
(59:41):
Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Quincy? What's up? Fathers like
y'all doing great? Hey, Chris, I want to tell you
last time I asked him with the school one of
your cousins, you said your last name was Theory my
grandmother's side, Yeah, Theory. Who was her name was? Since Theory?
I went to school with him, my classmate. Where at
(01:00:04):
Washington Maryon and Lake Charles? Well, Lake Charles, that's where. Yeah,
that's where the theories are from my side, I don't
know where though, but yeah, okay, okay, well what do
I want to say? You know, Brady's forty two is
gonna make farty things, but we have to remember the
next younger, the next oldest person, Tilmant Michael Finner, the
(01:00:25):
thirty three. He has a young team around the pictures
are very young and as long as he is, Josh
McDaniels an oc that young talent, they're gonna keep winning.
He doesn't need school anywhere. I'm not so convinced that
they're gonna keep winning. But Quincy, why did Josh McDaniels
get fired in Denver. Say it again, Why did Josh
(01:00:46):
McDaniels get fired in Denver's Sorry he wasn't that great here, coach? No,
because he got busted videotaping the teams walked through just surprising.
I guess he got that out of nowhere. Okay. I
just wanted to make sure, all right, thank you, and
then you runt and just putting it out there. What
did that? How did that happen? Wow? Out of nowhere?
(01:01:06):
That's interesting? All right, right, all right? The NFL Conversation
will continue with Hall of Famer our good buddy Rod Woodson.
He joins us next, but first, be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and
Rob Parker week days at seven pm Eastern, four pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
(01:01:26):
It is the I Couple Company You live from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's easy to say fifteen
percent of more on your car instruments with Geico. Go
to Geico dot com or call eight hundred and nine
four seven Auto. The only hard part is figuring out
which way is easier. We love to have him on
the show. He's the Hall of Famer, even an FS
one NFL contributor. It's our man, Rod Woodson, Rod, what's happening?
(01:01:51):
What's up? Loves what's happening with you? We are doing great, man,
It's great to have you on. Hey, Rod, I want
I want to jump real quick to this. Philip Rivers
came out the other day and the conversation is really
not about Brady was basically trying to make a case
for himself about that just winning super Bowls. You know,
(01:02:13):
it isn't enough or doesn't dictate whether or not how
great you were or whether you I guess right, Chris,
whether he was a goat or not, because Philip Rivers
doesn't have any He brought up Damn Marina, right, and
Dan Marino is a great quarterback, but never really in
that conversation of being a goat because he didn't win.
And my question to you, Rod is if you were
(01:02:34):
a fan or a player or whatever, and you just
just said to yourself, if I could pick one of
these two quarterbacks, would you pick Eli Manning, who would
get you two super Bowls and not be the greatest
quarterback for most of the regular seasons, or would you
take Philip Rivers, who's been very consistent for a long
time but never won the big game. For you, which
guy would you rather have? Well, I mean the thing,
(01:02:58):
remember what I was doing FS one stuff and then
we had a top tier quarterback rating when I was there,
and everybody asked me he was my top quarterback and
I had Dan Marino, And I said Dan Marino because
it was irrelevant to me if he wants super Bowls
because it's an ultimate team sport. Eli Manning was in
(01:03:19):
Super Bowls, yes, and he was even the MVP of
the Super Bowls. But he didn't have great games. They
didn't have a great years that like at least they're
scheduling or their win loss record wasn't outstanding. He wasn't
like they were fourteen and two going into the postseason.
I would have taken and I would have taken m
Philip Rivers over Eli just for the fact. I think.
(01:03:41):
You know, I'm a fan of Philip Rivers. I think
he's a he's feisty. I love everything he does. You know,
he has twenty five kids, that's the kiddy. But he
doesn't have a lot of kids seven or eight, No,
I know, he but you know what, but I love
his competitiveness. Um, you know, Eli, he's in the big Apple,
(01:04:03):
so everybody gives a more praise, and I think he
h he deserves. He has played well and he did
win to Super Bowls. But as a team, they weren't
a team that's got was putting fear into people. There
often wasn't putting fear into people. Uh, they played well
at the right time and in that last one it
was that deep as a front that won the Super
(01:04:24):
Bowl because they were getting after the posing quarterback. But
he also, I'm rod, I'm shocked that you would pick
uh uh, Philip Rivers are shocked. I am only from
this standpoint is the ultimate thing and the reason you're
playing is you want to win. It's it's I always
say sports as a short menu wins and losses, And
you're right. Let me let me put it. Let's let's
(01:04:47):
leave a caveat what team, what team is Eli playing for?
And which team is Philip playing for? No, but but
Eli won the Super Bowl as a part of the
New York Giants. He wasn't the New York Giants, but
he won both MVPs. He made both signatures. Every quarterback
every quarterback. Oh he threw one pass that was good
(01:05:10):
and to do caught on his helmet. Wait a minute,
but did you see him allude to the defender to
make that play happen? That was okay, that was That
was okay one play. I'm not hating on Eli Eli.
He looking he wont to. He got two rings. That's great,
that is great. I mean I went to three and
I only won one, So I do. I get it,
(01:05:32):
and I get how everybody puts the onus on the
quarterbacks have to win the Super Bowl to be considered great.
Damn Marino was the best quarterback in my time frame.
Playing in my seventeen years, I played against four which
is going to be fourteen Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Some
of those guys are gonna be still coming in talking
about Peyton and Tom and all those guys I played
(01:05:56):
against those guys, and Aaron Rodgers. Those guys are gonna
be in the Hall and Mike Tina. This is an
ultimate team sport, and you can't blame the quarterback if
your team doesn't win the Super Bowl, especially back in
the day. All Right, it's the Eye couple. We are
joined by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson Rode. I want
to stick with this this either or then A lot
(01:06:19):
of people is it Tom Brady? Obviously both of them
are responsible for the winning. But if you had to
pick one, who's more responsible? I hear a lot it's Belichick.
It's not Brady. Let him go somewhere else and see
what he does. Look at what they did with Matt Castle.
What I say is Belichick. I think they didn't go
to the playoffs with name right seven years. He's seven
(01:06:43):
years without Brady and missed the playoffs five of those
seven years. And I think Belichick's the best coach ever.
But who do you which one do you think has
been a You know, again, both of them really important,
But who would you if you had to pick one,
Brady or the check, who would it be. I'm gonna
take I'm gonna take the player. I'm gonna take the
(01:07:05):
player I know. I know Bill built the culture around
that franchise and in that building, the no nonsense attitude.
It's it's you got to get over me attitude before
we can even talk start talking about drafting you. I
get that. But Tom on the field, and with the
least amount of talent that receiver outside of the one
(01:07:25):
year having Randy mall Right in league history has won
how many Super Bowls? Can? You gotta tell me again?
But wait a minute, wait, but Rob, talk about a minute.
I want what I'm saying. I'm saying he won the
six without any talent around him. Don't say he didn't
have the talent. Now now what Wait a minute, let
(01:07:46):
me say this to you. On the Super Bowl we
just saw, Okay, Bill Belichick held the Rams, who had
the fifth or the third greatest offensive team in the
history of the National Football League, took three point three
three points and Tom Brady had no touchdowns. He had
(01:08:07):
one fumble, one interception, and through yards. What happened? I'm
just asking Rod, I'm taking you ask me a question.
No I know was asking me. I answered it. I
know you don't like my answers. Answer tonight. I love Hey, listen,
I love you. You don't like my answers. Like I
(01:08:28):
tell my wife, sometimes you ain't gonna like what I say,
but sometimes the truth does hurt. And I had. Hey.
I gotta respect you, man, You're the Hall of Famer,
a great player, and I do, but I disagree on
this Rod. You brought up uh Marino, who as you said,
I mean, if he's playing now, you feel like he
(01:08:49):
might throw for some god he was heard of and
the way that they throw the football, he would have
seven thousand yards. And I think, you know, Aaron Rodgers
is very comparable. Um a lot of people. You're starting
to hear some questions about Aaron just because they haven't
been winning more. What type of season you expect to
(01:09:11):
see from him? And how do you think he and
La Fleur and that offense, how do you think he'll fit.
That's a great question. I mean, you know, you just
never know, you know, how the young coach blends in
with the older player. I'm pretty sure Aaron Rodgers knows
just as much as La Fleur, if not more about
(01:09:32):
playing between the lines on game day than his coaching staff.
And that's you know, but that's not saying that Lafore
doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm just trying to
I like to see on game day how it's gonna unfold,
how it's gonna unwind that things aren't going well. You know,
who are they gonna go to? M Are they gonna
look to to, you know, Aaron Rodgers and say that
(01:09:55):
he's playing bad or are they gonna blame the coach
for coming in there and he's too young. You really
never know, you know. I just want to see how
it folds. I think they're gonna be a solid team.
I think I had him finishing nine and seven this year.
I don't think they'll have a winning record. They're playing
in a tough division. You know they're playing you know,
(01:10:15):
you're playing Minnesota, You're playing Chicago. You know, those are
the teams that beat in that division. I think they're
gonna play extremely well. It's gonna be tough for him.
I just like to see how it's gonna work out
with La Floor and how he handles Aaron Rodgers, who's
been there and done that, and people always say that
he's the best quarterback to play in the Nashotball League
(01:10:36):
right now. And people are gonna argue with Tom Brady,
so you know, I like to see how that's gonna
be handled on game day with a young, inexperienced head
coach in La Floor, and how he's gonna handle a
future Hall of Famer like Aaron Rodgers. If something's going
wrong on the sideline, Okay, Rob, we got thirty seconds left.
I just want you to quickly tell me Baker Mayfield
(01:10:58):
talking about Dan Jones, I mean, why would a player
like like downgrade another player. I just don't. I don't
get it where I just don't, you know, listen, and
I know people are saying listen. He says what he feels.
But wisdom, and hopefully he will get wiser as he
gets older, because you don't have to say everything that
(01:11:21):
comes to your head. Wisdom is when you should speak
and when you shouldn't speak. That's wisdom. So hopefully as
he gets older, he'll get wiser. He won't make those
type of comments down the road. And what he's doing
for himself, he's putting a target not on his not
just on his team, but on him because people are
now gonna say, you know what, did you talk so much?
(01:11:43):
I'm gonna really really try to hit you her as
I can get the opportunity. Chris, we said that yesterday. Yeah,
a little extra something when you drive sauce, Yeah, a
little A little elbow into the neck when I drive
him into the ground as I'm getting up right right, yea,
you have it. It's the great Rod Woodson as always
(01:12:03):
man to love you man, no matter what all right? Hey,
we can we can agree to disagree, no doubt. All right, brother,
see you all right now I talk to your brothers. Yep.
Rob Parker has a bone to pick with a few
of his media brethren, and it's not me. We'll find
out why. Next is The Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio.
(01:12:23):
I ain't paying. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific. It's The Eye
Couple on a TV theme show Thursday. Of course, this
is Batman, the greatest superhero, right Rob? You agree? I
agree with you on that. That's one thing we agree with.
(01:12:45):
Even though he didn't have any superpowers. I love Batman.
He was tough and he had robbing. Robbing was tough too,
all right. So, uh, interesting development last night in Detroit.
I think between the Astros and the Tigers. Why don't
you explain it? Robb? And I know you, uh, you
(01:13:09):
are very heated about this situation. Well, I just justin
Verlander had an issue with the Detroit Free Press speed
writer who I know, Anthony Fennick, and um. Basically, he
claimed that he had told the free press not to
send him to Houston, that he didn't want to talk
to him, he had done some unethical things and which
(01:13:30):
he didn't give any detail too. And for whatever reason,
he told the PR staff down in Houston that he
wouldn't talk if Anthony not only if he asked questions Chris,
but if he was even in the scrum, you know,
like he didn't walk around or whatever. And the biggest
problem and and and I know that PR chief down
there too, Jean Diaz, who was in the middle of this,
(01:13:53):
And I just I do not get it. Justin Verlander
is on his way to Cooperstown. He's been a great
baseball player. Uh. I've had a good relationship with him.
And you know how I was in Detroit, Chris, right,
I mean, I had the right stuff and whatnot, and
we always had a decent and a good relationship. And
(01:14:14):
to to to just be bothered by the media and
think that you can dictate who is going to be
reporting for the paper, you know what I mean? And
all that. If if he asked a question that you
don't like or whatever, Chris, what do you do? You
don't answer it right? Right? But you can't dictate who's
coming to the game. If he's uh, somebody pays, and
(01:14:38):
even fans misunderstand the role of the media. They feel
like the media, and I'm serious, they feel like the
media kind of works for the team, like they're supposed
to just promote the team. That's not what we're there for.
We're there for the fans. We're there for all you
guys who can't be there to ask why did you
misplay that ball? And right, feel right, why why did
(01:15:02):
you miss that dunk? With the game on the line,
all those free throws? And we try to get the information.
But my here's my bigger problem. Chris was with the
other writers who were down there covering the game, and
when they made it clear that they weren't going to
let Anthony Fennick into into the clubhouse in time to
(01:15:23):
talk to Verlando, they let him in, but after Verlander
talking is totally unacceptable. My only thing, And if I
was there, I'm not kidding you, I would have I
would have said that I wouldn't take part, and I
would and I would also ask all the other writers
not to take part either from the standpoint of you
(01:15:43):
can't allow that to happen. It's Anthony Fennick one day
Chris from the Free Press, and the next day is
Chris Boussard, and the next day it's Rob Parker and
the next day it's h Curtis Bond. I'm just throwing
out names, you know what I mean. You can't even
get that anybody. And I'm certainly with totally with you
on the astros. G just gotta tell Verlander, look, we're
(01:16:07):
not doing that. I mean, he's he covers, you know,
he's he's a legitimate reporter who from the newspaper, right,
so he can come in Now. Verlander probably would have said,
I'm not talking, and I guess he didn't get fined
or whatever. But you know, they they the astros should
not have done that. The other writers. Obviously the writers
(01:16:29):
did it. They went in ahead and went with it.
And you know, Rob, how competitive writers are. And I
gotta be honest, and I don't know what the situation is.
What's the relationship with Finnick and the other writers. Do
the other writers think he's unnatical? I'm not saying they
do or that he is, but I you know, I
(01:16:49):
don't know what they're from the people that I know,
obviously being from you know, in Detroit a long time.
They don't have any issues with Anthony. He's a guy
who's a young guy, working hard, hard, and he's not
a pushover Chris, you know what I mean. Right, He's
gonna challenge you whatever's going on, and he will ask
the questions that need to be asked. And obviously, with
(01:17:10):
Virlanda leaving Detroit, and he probably written some stuff that
maybe Rolanda didn't like and I get all that, but
that's not where you play that out. If you really
have a grievance about anti talk to the guy, then
you should. You should talk to him with his editor,
with your agent, with somebody from Major League Baseball, with
somebody from the A Couple. Be sure to catch live
(01:17:31):
editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob
Parker week days at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It is
the I Couple. I am Chris, he is Rob. We're
coming to you live from the Guy COO Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent more
on your car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a
(01:17:56):
free rate quote. All right, Rob, Jerry Jones. We know
he's locked in to contract disputes with his three top
offensive players or at least skilled position players Dak Prescott,
Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper. But he has taken a different
tact with each guy. With Zeke, it seems like from
(01:18:19):
his comments that he's playing hardball. With Dak, it's been
nothing but praise. And here's the latest example of that.
On Tuesday, Jerry Jones sells this to the fort Worst
Star Telegram again coming up on the money is really
not that issue with Dak. A lot of people question
(01:18:42):
whether Dak is one of the guys who need to
be in the top tier. I have never questioned that.
That is what this is showing you. I don't think
there is any doubt that he is at the top
level of paid quarterbacks. There is no question in my
mind about it. Now, how we make this all fit
(01:19:02):
to have the best team around him, that is what
we are trying to work on. I'm just gonna make
it plain to your Rod Parker, does Dak Prescott is
he a top tier quarterback? No way? No. How I
set that on the t for you, well, you know,
(01:19:22):
I just hit it three hundred yards. Um, that would
be a heck of a hit. It would be I
just would be like nine feet well, it would be
pretty big. Um. No, I don't believe that. And Jerry
knows that as well. Uh, he likes Dak. He doesn't
(01:19:42):
look at Dak has the same problem because Dak's in camp.
Dak's not going anywhere. Dak's performing playing right, not saying
that much other than he's not gonna take a hometown
discount or whatever. But my point is it's easy for
him to play that game because this quarterback is not
s it out like his running back is, and he
(01:20:03):
knows deep down that Dak Prescott's not a Tier one quarterback.
Doesn't mean that you can't win with him, Chris. We've
seen lesser quarterbacks win with great defenses. Right, just don't
make the big turnover. We've seen it. We saw it
in Baltimore, we saw it in Tampa. So it's not
(01:20:23):
like it's impossible to win without having the greatest quarterback ever.
Here's the deal. But he's just not that guy. And
until he's that guy, I think people will feel better
about him. And I think we saw that when that
big pole came out of fifty five executives and coaches
around the league. Now, he did. They not have him
in the first tier. They didn't even have him in
(01:20:44):
the second tier. He was a third tier ranked quarterback. Yeah.
Pro Football Focus just came out with their QB rankings
and he was seventeen. That's the middle of the pack
right now. He is clearly not a top tier quarterback. However,
he does deserve to be paid top tier money. Would
(01:21:07):
you agree with that? Just based off of if matt
Stafford can make all the money that he makes and
he didn't have a playoff win after ten years? Sure,
that's what would I would I pay him? No? But
but I but just does he deserve to get paid
that money with the other contracts of guys who have
gotten money and haven't done anything And he even has
(01:21:28):
here because he's done something. I just met you Stafford.
The Lions have never won the division, Chris? Can you
believe that ten years he was the first overall pick.
The Lions have never won the NFC North. You can
bring never made a playoff game. Whenever you can bring
up Matthew Stafford. You can bring up Kirk Cousins, you
can bring up Jimmy Garoppolo. It's all about timing, period,
(01:21:53):
and Dak Prescott, while again not a top tier quarterback,
deserves to get TI tier money because here's the thing.
Dak Prescott is not gonna wow you with his arm,
his accuracy, his physical tools, but he has the intangibles
(01:22:14):
to win super Bowls. That's right. I said it. I'm
not predicting they're gonna win it this year. I'm just
saying he that would be a hot take if you're
telling me they're gonna win it with Dak's arm. He
has the intangibles. Right, Are you saying he can't win
a super Bowl? I don't expect him to win a
super Bowl? Is he can? You can? Can you win
(01:22:35):
a super Bowl with Dak? Sure you can, but he's
got But I don't expect the Cowboys with Dak Prescott
to win a super Bowl. He's the two different things
super Bowl that necessarily this year. I think he'll win
a super Bowl at some point. He's a leader, he's
a winner, he's got a strong character, and he does
(01:22:59):
have good physical tool not the best, but he's a playmaker.
He can make plays with his feet and he's also
made some strong passes at times when better Tim or
Tony Romo, I would rather have Dak. Wow, Tony Romo
had unblown playoff games? Did Romo win? He didn't win many.
I think it was mane you in sports Rob No pretty,
(01:23:21):
I'm sure. I'm just the men just asking you, like
when you look at the guy and the numbers and whatnot,
I'm with you. I mean, Tony Romo was that guy
that they loved, but he couldn't get it done in
the big games, and I was just curious that they
weren't able to do anything. Romo better quarterback. There's no
doubt in mind. Individually, Yeah, he was a more capable quarterback.
(01:23:45):
But like you game by itself, would you agree with
that that Romo could win you again? Yeah, but he could.
He also came up small in some big moments too.
Oh I'm not I'm not doubting that. I'm just saying,
out of the two, if I didn't have the running
game or the defense wasn't playing that well and I
needed thirty eight points and I needed my quarterback to
(01:24:05):
get me thirty eight, yeah, would would would be your guy.
But I think he also I don't think his intangibles
were as strong as Dax and I know you like
the poop poo intangibles, but he would have to tell me,
why give me? Give me what intangibles Tony Romo didn't have,
because I don't think you could honestly game. He certainly
wasn't always clutch. He had his moments, but he had
(01:24:27):
some bad moments in the clutch too. I don't think
he galvanized his teammates. He wasn't disliked, he was liked,
he was respected, But I don't think he was a
galvanizing a force in that locker room at Dak Prescott is.
I think I would have to be around somebody a
little bit more to be able to talk about intangibles.
(01:24:47):
That's just me, But I'm just looking at the result.
Tom Brady, anybody who says he's the goat, they're not
gonna say he's more talented than Aaron Rodgers or Damn
Marino or anything. And the same goals for Joe Montana.
Anybody that says one of those two, Brady or Montana
is the goat, they're also saying one of the reasons
(01:25:08):
they are the goat is because of their intangibles. And
can you give me that you know that's true because
physically Gift and Joe Montana Joe Montana, but he just
performed at a high level in big moments. So that's
why I think Montana has that. But you're right, if
you look at his stats, they weren't like eye popping.
(01:25:30):
They were good, very good, but they weren't eye popping.
And that's what I'm saying. So Dak deserves to be
paid like a top tier guy. Let me just share
a few things which you rob part of, Things that
you you always like to forget. You always hope whoever
you're on this show with, if it's television, if it's radio,
(01:25:50):
when you talk Dak, that they don't bring this stuff up.
But I'm gonna bring it up. You're out of luck.
Thirty two and sixteen since Dak Prescott has been in
the league. That's the second best record for a starting
quarterback since he entered the NFL. You know, it was
(01:26:14):
first Tom Brady and remember Rob, that thirty two and
sixteen record is with this Zekiel Elliott missing six of
those games. It is without last year until Amari Cooper
got there, a number one receiver and even the year
(01:26:34):
before that, a number one receiver I'm telling you he's
a winner. He's the only quarterback in NFL history to
throw for at least twenty touchdowns and run for at
least five touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.
I'm telling you he's a winner. Don't even did that
(01:26:56):
move the needle? Really? Yeah? Because they won thirteen wanting
touchdowns and and five rushing touch them. Really, it does
move the needle because it's led to thirty two wins
in three years. You can't tell me, mister Parker, when
football has a short menu, sports sports has a short menu,
(01:27:22):
and Dak's menu is full of w's. What did you
got the big menu at Wendy at the Denny's. I mean,
you know that big menu you get at breakfast. This
is what you do. You resort to jokes when you're
out of am I I would do it too. It's
called I want to be stand up. I'm working hard
(01:27:44):
for the uh, the listeners out there and their entertainment dollar.
I'm trying to get them to chuckle on their way
home or wherever they are. That's right, I'm not because
you know I'm dropping facts. Give the man is Dak
Prescott is one of the most he might be, you know,
(01:28:05):
the most underrated quarterback in the NFL. Okay, Skip Bayless,
I got you. Who's more underrated? I just don't. I
think that. I don't think he's underrated. I think that
people are fair when they look at his numbers and
what he's done. I think the two games quarterback, and
they had a hell of a defense as well. There's
other factors, but I think that people have been fair
(01:28:26):
to Dak Prescott. I don't think that they're totally disrespect
to them. And he has and and um, he's done
it all by hisself and nobody's given him credit. I
think that the team, I'm not saying they're slapping him
in the face and people think he's garbage. I'm not
saying he's incredibly over or underrated, but when I think
(01:28:46):
about who's more underrated as a quarterback, that's that's my point.
I think he is the most underrated quarterback. And again
I'm not to tier he's not. I think he's right
where he belongs. I really do. I don't think you
just said it. Football Focus Christie's are the people to
analytics people with all the numbers, all the stats, take
(01:29:10):
everything in consideration. Now, you not not just touchdowns, not
just touchdowns and not just interception. But they look at
it and now all of a sudden, they're saying, he's
the seventeenth how many teams are there in the NFL
thirty two, So he couldn't be He's not even in
the first half. He's in the second half. Cam Newton sixteenth, right,
(01:29:33):
he's in the top half of it. Okay, he's in
the top sixteen out of thirty two, and they're saying
Dak Prescott is underneath that. Wow. I think Dak Prescott
is gonna get about thirty Jay Glazer said it. He
can say it better than me. What do he say?
Mid thirty between thirty and thirty five million a year,
(01:29:57):
that's the going rate. I think you get about to
go four million a year. And I think the Cowboys
will be wise to lock him up now because if
he has the type of season they want him to have,
then that number's gonna go much higher next So help
me out here. Just I'm hypothetical and you're you're Jerry Jones.
(01:30:18):
He flops this year, Christy, I'm just saying he just
doesn't play that well. Where would you be now on
Dak Prescott's say he had Zekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper and
just played okay, like he was the seventeenth best quarterback
in the league. You don't win the division and say
you're losing the playoffs. You can get to the playoffs,
so you lose, where would you be on Dak? Then?
(01:30:40):
App after that, Well, if we get to the playoffs,
you're good. Then I still like him. Okay, Uh, he's
still my franchise quarterback. If you don't, if we don't
get to the player, I wouldn't be say done because
he's had three good years or you know, second year
wasn't as great, but three side of the years, I
(01:31:01):
do think those intangibles are still there. But yeah, if
he comes out this year and say they don't sign
a contract, he comes out this year and doesn't play
well and they don't have a great season as a team,
that hurts him because he's not Aaron Rodgers. He's not
Drew Bree, not one of these guys, as you said,
even Tony Roman, that's going to carry a team by himself,
(01:31:22):
right right, that's the difference. I agree, And that's what
that's what hurts Dak Prescott, not that he's not a
good quarterback or he can't or you cannot win with him.
It's that can he win you? And maybe you might
see that this year. I don't know, you know, some
things that are in place to help him. I think
Kellen Moore, the new offensive coordinator, they're gonna have a
(01:31:44):
lot more pre snap motion. Now. Some people might say, also,
what that makes you less predictable? When you line up
and you don't move bodies, the defense can take a
great guess at what's coming, right, but they, you know,
they can figure it out. I mean, these these teams
now they scout you to death and right, but when
(01:32:08):
you do it's all about deception. You might even run
the same plays, but if you got more motion, you're
moving guys in the backfield, your receivers are moving around.
You know. That can throw the defense off and keep
them guessing and make you better offensive. I think, you know,
Morris talked about Dak throwing down the field more too,
So I do think he's gonna have a better season.
(01:32:31):
So we'll see, but I think the Cowboys will and
should lock him up before this season because if he
has a good one, they're gonna have to pay him
even more. All right, Dak Prescott. It's going to get
paid like a top tier quarterback, but does he deserve it?
You're turning away in eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,

(01:33:35):

True Cash offer not available in all areas. Robbed yes
Cam Newton. There's been a lot of talk about the preseason.
We had Joe Banner on yesterday, former front office executive
and He said that next year, he believes what the
(01:33:58):
preseason is it will be totally different from what we've
all become accustomed to over the years, So it won't
be this four game preseason that we see now. And
one of the reasons for that has taken place tonight.
Hopefully it's nothing serious, but Cam Newton was injured in
(01:34:22):
the game between the Carolina Panthers and the New England
Patriots tonight. Newton was sacked twice and in one on
one of the sacks, he injured his left foot. And
I remember in twenty fourteen he had surgil on his
left ankle, so we don't know the details. He was
able to walk to the locker room. Well that's a
(01:34:45):
good sign. Because I couldn't walk, then I would be
I'd be extremely worried. I mean not to say that
he's not hurt, but you know what I mean, Christian, Yeah, yeah,
if you broke something or pull, you know, rip something,
you wouldn't be able to walk. You couldn't be able
to put your your weight on on a bad leg
or ankle or foot. I mean, could there be some
(01:35:06):
type of fracture in there? You know how you wouldn't
walk though, I mean, that's just usually you can see
guys play on fractures, you know, with the adrenaline or whatever.
I don't know. I mean, I hopefully you're right. I
certainly hope. I think all of us hope that it's
nothing serious. But look, I get so frustrated with these
preseason games, even the night, because I want to see
(01:35:30):
Nick Foles and then he plays one quarter. I want
to see Daniel Jones and he plays two or three possessions,
you know, so, and you could go on and on,
Lamar Jackson and so on and so forth. Aaron Rodgers
who hadn't played at all, is not playing for it.
Just so much money tied up in these you can't
(01:35:50):
flame them. This is not the old days, Chris, when
people were making up eighty thousand dollars and you had
to be out there to hold onto your job. That's
what you You had no choice. That's the problem with
the preseason games. It's the problem with let's be honest,
are all star games in whatever the sport because player
(01:36:11):
and now you see it kind of rearing its head
with USA basketball, and I get it. I get it.
I understand it from the players standpoint. I understand it
from the team standpoint. I'm paying a guy one hundred
million dollars or fifty million dollars or whatever it may be.
I don't want him risking injury and some meaningless game,
(01:36:34):
whether it's international competition, preseason ball, or what have you,
an All star game, I don't want to see it.
I want the guy healthy for the games that matter.
And if I'm a player, I want to be healthy
for the games that matter. And and a lot of
these players don't have the big deals yet, so they
(01:36:55):
don't want to risk getting injured in some meaningless game.
And so I do you know, there have been all
types of things proposed. They go to three preseason games
and add a seventh team to the playoffs in each conference.
How would you feel about that? Now? I'm I'm I'm
good with where it is. I just I'm not into
(01:37:16):
all the teams making the playoffs and just keep because
all it is is a money grab. I don't want
the regular season to be neutralized. That's one of the
biggest complaints I have about the NBA and the sixth
What what sixteen teams making the playoffs is you can
neutralize and uh, you know you hurt the regular season
a little bit. And I know it's for positioning, but
(01:37:38):
there's a lot of games that just don't really matter
and and other than you know, we can look at
the Western confer in the NFL, you're talking about the NBA. Yeah,
in the NBA, I'm talking about what half the league
making might sixteen out of the thirteen out of thirty
more than half more than half. So I'm with you.
In the NFL, I like the playoffs just the way
they are, like six teams in each conference. However, if
(01:38:01):
you went, while I don't want to see it, expand it,
I would rather if I had to put pick one,
if it was watch these four meaningless play or preseason games,
and even if a guy's only playing a quarter, as
Cam Newton is evidence of, you still can get hurt.
So if it was if it if it came to
(01:38:23):
pay four preseason games or add one more team per
conference to the playoffs, I would go with the lesser
of two evils, as I kind of see it, which
would be like to add a team because remember Rob, look,
it still would only be fourteen of the thirty two
teams making it. It still wouldn't be really close to
the NBA's rang. I get that, but there's nothing wrong
(01:38:45):
with what we're doing now and what I love. The
way the playoffs are. I just don't you know why.
You know why. But it could be a money graph
for the players too. It could help the players. They
don't get paid in the playoffs, Chris, they don't. They
don't even get money for the playoffs. The whole thing
is they get paid their contracts during the regular season
(01:39:07):
and then they get a bonus depending on where you're going.
If you win the Super Bowl, each player gets money.
But if the teams make more money, I don't know
if that if that would raise the salary cap or
what the playoffs income. Yeah, I don't. I don't. I
don't know how that factors in, So I'm not gonna guess. Yeah.
But but I'm just saying owners want more playoffs because
(01:39:29):
they get to keep all the money. Do you see
what I'm saying. That's why they get I get it.
And if I'm a player, I just I don't know.
I'm not, and there's nothing wrong with that, just money.
I don't think its a different chance to make the playoffs.
If I thought there was something wrong with it, I
would I would say it. I just think the playoffs
are great the way they are. I agree, I agree,
(01:39:52):
but I'm just saying I'd rather see one more playoff
team than these four exhibitions. This is it's torturous. Yeah,
and then you see tonight a guy like Cam Newton
get hurt. I was expecting and hopefully, you know, I
don't want to talk about him like he's really seriously injured.
We don't know. They am expecting Cam Newton to have
an MVP caliber season. I'm thinking Carolina, assuming he's healthy.
(01:40:14):
I'm picking Carolina to win that division. Wow. And I
think look last year, he looked great in the first
eight games. They were six and two until his shoulder
began bothering him. I think, yeah, he was hurt, but
Norviscott Turner helped him out. You know, he's got a
new throwing motion, footwork, things like that. So I'm expecting
(01:40:36):
to bounce back year. Hopefully he's healthy to go out
there and give it a try. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and
Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and The iHeart radio app Tom Brady.
(01:40:58):
He's done. Aaron Rodgers did not have a Pro Bowl season.
It's trolling or rolling, That's right, it is trolling and rolling.
The r couple of Fox Sports Radio would do this
every single Thursday. Normally Martin Wiss will do it with
you guys. But uh, once he found out there'd be
no TV cameras in the studio, he's like, nah, fam,
(01:41:19):
I'm taking this. I ain't paying exactly. Hey, you know what,
we gotta send out a happy birthday wish to Martin.
He just celebrated his thirtieth birthday over the weekend. Happy birthday, brother,
that's great. Rob. You know I celebrated my thirty first
birthday over the weekend too, so happy birthday. You only
followed me on Instagram already told Rob G happy. I
(01:41:41):
can't believe that I didn't see you celebrating your birthday.
Happy thirty first birthday. I already got you a gift.
You did, right, and you did. Thank you, Rob. You
didn't even tell Chris, did you? No? I did not.
I don't want to feel bad, and he trying to
want tell you, and then I'm a lot of guy.
You know, I'm not getting a gift for when I'm
back you tell him in the future. Rob got me
some fresh Jay my first pay ever? You serious? He did?
(01:42:03):
Just so? I did, Chris, you got some Jordan's Which
ones I forgot? Which was in the six rings something
like that? Yeah, the ones with all of the different
designs on it. I have no idea. I'm cool as
the other side of the pillow. They are fresh, they
are They're pretty nice. He was very happy with what'd
you give me for my birthday? It wasn't Jordan's I'm
(01:42:23):
still away from Yeah no, that was for subject alight.
Some weirdays coming up too. We got some off the
wall stories here that Now, if the guys like the
point it's being making, you're gonna hear the roll sound
and they don't like, you're gonna get the trolls. Oh man, hey, hey, hey,
(01:42:47):
so let's get right to it. Story number one guys.
Video surface this week of a pickup game featuring a
couple of NBA players including Ben Simmons, Devin Booker, Justice Winslow,
and Joe Kim Noah, and in it, Booker is seen
getting very frustrated after you got double teams in the
corner he said, quote, We're not doubling an open gym.
I get that stuff all season. Bro, let's work on
(01:43:09):
our game. And quote Chris Broussard, are you trolling or
rolling with Booker that double teams should be banned from
pickup basketball? You know, I've thought a lot about this
because your initial thought is, what's he talking about? That's ridiculous.
This is a part of the game. But as I've
thought about it, talked to one player about it, I'm
(01:43:30):
rolling because I get the frustration. I mean, they doubled
him right away, and he does if they're doubling me
all the time and pick up and I gotta pass
the ball, why am I even out there? And so
I'm I'm with Devin on this again. I thought long
and hard about it. I do think ideally it's something
(01:43:52):
that you guys settled before the game. You know, like
you're gonna look no zone defense, you know, no double teaming.
I think it should be something you kind of player.
A player told me it's kind of an unwritten rule.
You should like that, Rob, since you baseball, you know
all the unwritten rules. But I think it's something from
now and they need if this is an issue they
need to sell it. Look, no zone, no double teaming,
(01:44:13):
Man up and play d And so I'm rolling with Booker.
You know what, Chris, I'm rolling with them as well.
I don't think, I just I don't think that that's
the place for that open gym. You all trying to
work on your game. You don't have a coach out
there double teaming and doing all kinds of stuff that's
not for the open gym. I agree with him one.
(01:44:35):
You guys are both wrong. The motto of the day
is no easy buckets. That was Charles O. Clean and
Patrick Ewing And that's right. Here we go story number two.
Rob Parker gonna like this one. According to a poll
conducted by Turo, football fans were asked which NFL player
they would most enjoy having at their tailgate. The landslide winner,
(01:44:56):
with forty two percent of the vote was Aaron Rodgers
Tom Brady. Oh I just threw up in my mouth.
Rob Parker, Are you trolling or rolling with football fans
who want to tailgate with Tom? Terrifficing and he couldn't
do that? Oh man, Hey, no, torm Kin. Tom is
such a stick in the mud. He's an alle Chucks
(01:45:18):
gee whiz. He's a guy who's like a Boston legend.
Yet they spotted him in New York when the Yankees cap.
I mean, come on, how would you want to hang
out with that guy? Thomas Boring? I don't. I don't
see Tom. Did you ever see him dancing in US?
He looks ridiculous his Instagram post. He's funny, he's hilarious.
(01:45:40):
He pulled his daughter off a cliff. Did you see that?
I wouldn't want to hang out with that guy. I'm
rolling with him with the fan. I get it. Look,
he wouldn't be my pick. I might pick Odell Beckham,
I might pick Baker, may feel somebody fun like that.
But I'm not gonna troll the fans for picking who
they want. He's the goat. They want to ask him questions,
(01:46:02):
they want to pick his brain. I mean, if you
got a chance to sit there and eat burgers with
the goat, you gotta do it. I don't care how
Boring needs it. He is so once in a lifetime thing.
I don't know about all that, all right? Story number three?
Would Derek picking Rob Gronkowski? Yea, he changed your whole perspective.
(01:46:26):
But I'm not mad at the fans story. Now, he's
the type of guy that would like Golden Girls. He's
the type of guy who would go into Golden Girls crew,
trolling and rolling the Okaba Fox Sports Radio. Last one
coming your way, guys. I'm convinced that Washington State head
(01:46:47):
football coach Mike Leach has been put on this earth
to test us. Now this week he went. He sent
social media to a frenzy when he tweeted out quote,
I can't figure out people that hate cats. How do
people generate that much animosity towards cats? It's just a cat.
How is it different than say, a squirrel, or a
duck or a canary? Rob Parker, are you trolling or
(01:47:09):
rolling with people who hate cats? I'm rolling with people
who hate cats. I can't stand cats. They're finnicky, they
don't listen when you call them over. They basically do
whatever they want. They're just I don't even understand them
as pets. They don't do anything but shed hair, urinate
(01:47:29):
all over the place. They're They're terrible. I hate cats.
I'm rolling with these guys. Oh no, I'm trolling the guys.
Oh man, I'm trolling them. I have a cat. Why
am I not surprised you have a cat. Look, growing up,
I had a dog, and I'm Look, I'm just gonna
put it out there. I'm not an animal lover. I'm
(01:47:52):
not an animal hater. You know, they're fine, but I'm
not the one to be walking the dog all the time,
kissing the dog on the mouth, run rolling around with
my dog. No, that's not me, all right. I had
a dog when I grew up and I loved him, Rusty,
God bless him. But it's a lot of it's high
maintenance with a dog, and I didn't want to high
(01:48:14):
maintenance pet. So we have a cat. Now. It's my
wife's idea, but still we got a cat. Cats are
perfect for people like me who are somewhere in the
middle of love and hate with with animals, all right,
because they do they don't bother you when you don't
want to be bothered. They're not always up on you.
They clean, they're clean, they they they clean up after themselves.
(01:48:36):
They're not urinating all over the place. And you know,
when you want to play with them, they're there. But
when you don't, most of the time, they go about
and do their own thing. Cats are great robe Chris
left out the he very delete on why they have cats.
It's because they got all those mice in that mansion
that they live in. That's trolling. The rolling, all right,
(01:49:03):

this when it is a great show. For about three
four seasons, this was really strong, really strong. No, it
was a good show. I've seen it and I've laughed.
I like it. It is the Eye Couple. Chris Bussar,
Rob Parker, Rob Parker, you are on a national tour.
(01:49:48):
Why don't you tell us a little bit about it?
Just you know what I wanted before we get into September, Chris,
and you know, uh, football and everything going on, you know,
will be really really busy and can't take any time off.
I just decided to take a trip visit friends around
the country. Uh, you know, I worked out really hard
(01:50:09):
I'm eating chicken wings and trying stuff all and now
you're back on your your regular diet, so you've probably
gained all that weight you lost. Not in game. You
think I gained thirty half week, Not at all. I
think I probably put on a couple of pounds. But
um now, so it's been great. So I started in all.
(01:50:31):
I started in Texas and Dallas and UH wound up
going to a nice um Rangers game and eating around
and a couple of friends who I grew up with
lived down there. Then I went to uh Atlanta, and
I don't know, I probably you know, wound up hanging
out with like fifteen or twenty people who I know
(01:50:53):
down there, Chris, a lot of the guys who were
in the business, got to see Curtis Bond, who was
a guy who covered then with me back in the
old days in New York. And now I'm here in Chicago,
same thing. After the show, I'm meeting some other friends.
I went to a Cubs game today, I went to
(01:51:13):
a Braves game at their new stadium. Tomorrow I go
to Denver and a couple of buddies there. I'm gonna
go there and have a nice fat steak and a
baked potato and then Saturday, I go to Vegas. I'm
gonna make some bets on the upcoming NFL season. I
have a big dinner with some friends. Yeah, I'm gonna
