(00:29):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, it is the
Odd Couple. I'm Chris Brussard alongside my partner Rob Parker,

(00:50):
and we are coming to you live from the Guecoe,
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
percent or more on your car insurance. Visit Geeco dot
com for a free great quote, Rob Parker, how are
you today, man? I am doing great. How are you,
mister Chris Broussard. I'm doing well, man, I'm doing very well.

(01:10):
Long day, but a great day. I'm gonna say, I
know you. I did the early, heavy, early right and
early things first with Wright and General Wolf. But it
was a lot of fun. Brian Westbrook stopped by to
join us to the Great running Back with the Eagles
nice in the past, and so yeah, we had a
good time, talked a lot of football and obviously you

(01:32):
and I are gonna talk a lot of football as well. Absolutely,
football season right around the corner cuts coming up. There's
a lot of stuff going on, and a holiday weekend
not going on too. Oh yeah, down in Dallas especially. Yeah,
it's sad but true. Yes, yes, yes, you know, at

(01:53):
the bottom of the hour, in less than thirty minutes,
as we do it every Friday, celebrity corner, we gotta
spe actual celebrity corner guests, wouldn't you say that? Rob? Absolutely?
You know this as a TV guy TV, yes, especially sitcoms.
But you know what's crazy is they had three guys
like him, little guys who all you know, had TV shows.

(02:19):
I know the other one you're talking about, right, I
don't know of the I know one of the other ones,
I guess, right, But the other one is you you'll
know him, and I guess maybe he didn't have his
own show, but he was on a lot of shows
in the seventies. Do you remember Rodney Allen Rippy? Yeah,
you remember he was a little guy that he was
in I remember him from commercials, right, but he was
also king. He was on some TV shows too. I

(02:41):
don't think he ever had his show, and I'll google it.
But uh, I think he was on a lot of
shows in the seventies, like the little Black Kid was
hot in the seventies. Oh yeah, all of them, and
all of them. Little one you know, Rodney Allen Rippy though,
wasn't as small as the other two. I don't think
so hard. I mean he was just a young kid.

(03:01):
The other ones were small, you know what I mean? Right, So,
but yeah, yeah, I remember him. Well, he was hot.
He was hot for a minute. Couple crew and get
this thing roller. That's right. We wouldn't be able to
do this fine little radio program without him. Of course,
Rob g is our producer. Iowa Sam making an appearance.

(03:23):
Great have Iowa saying in the house. That's right, man,
he's our engineer. How you doing. I'm doing well. A
little fluster just got in here last second. You got
it all together, so we're all good. Good to see you,
Iowa Sam. You know, Chris and Iowa Sam grew up together,
not too far from each other, right, remember saying I'm

(03:45):
from Iowa, Iowa Sam, he goes. I remember Chris, he
was the black kid in the state. I already told
you it's plenty of black people I could name that
came from Iowa. I can't believe it. I'm Ricky Davis
in the NBA, right, all right, Roger Craig great running
back with the Niners. Unbelieving one of the people from TLC.

(04:05):
I think t bos or something was born there. Now
you're gonna next thing. You're gonna tell me that Sylvia's
soul Food restaurant at Hallam had a branch out of Iowa. Iowa,
all right, they did have soul food out there. Harrison
Barnes is from Iowa. Harrison Hart from Iowa. See, and
you've been hating unbelieved brothers out there? Man, Yes, amazing.

(04:28):
But also let's also welcome in Steve de Sega, who
is not from Iowa, but he'll be at the update
desk all night. UH keeping us updated on what's happening
in sports, and uh obviously there's a lot of games
and different things happening. Also in turn, Sam she is
here as well, so that all on the other side

(04:49):
of the glass. And Chris real quick. I was just
saying to uh Sam the internet. My first assignment from school,
I got all the assignments in I had like twenty
I have twenty five papers to read over the weekend.
So I was like, wow, I just I realized it
once all the stuff started coming in. How much you have?
And then she says, well, I have two classes back

(05:11):
to back, and then one of my classes, we only
have two kids in the class. Can you imagine the
college class, Chris, with only two kids? That's awfully small.
I mean I've heard of small college classes. Two kids.
You can cancel that kid and put them in with
somebody else. That's like a private reading. Us to have
some private reading, that's amazing. But they're on the other

(05:34):
side of the class. And let's kick some masks on
this Friday, the holiday weekend. Labor Day is coming on Monday.
All right, Look, we keep leading with this story, but
stuff keeps happening. Jerry Jones cannot keep his mouth shut.
He cannot keep his mouth shut. He's going on, Elliot,

(05:54):
do we have audio of the latest Robgi what he
said today about the contract? I think Jerry really, I
don't want to say maybe showed his hand isn't the
right phrase, but this thing, I don't know if he's
taking it personal. He might be because obviously he's been

(06:15):
there for Zeke when Zeke's had his off the field troubles,
and he has Zeke under contract for two more years,
and whether he's taking it personal or not, he is
very upset. Not just that this is your typical hold
out you never like that as an owner or GM,
but the fact that Zeke is doing it so early

(06:36):
with two years left on his deal. I think that
really has upset Jerry. I think that's led to these
comments he's made belittling Zeke and how good he is,
even though he's also made some comments you know that
we need him and he's great and so on and
so forth. And I think that's led to Jerry playing
excessive hardball. And this is yet the lay this example

(07:01):
in my mind that the Cowboys are going to start
the season without Ezekiel Elliott Rob g played this comment.
He said today, is that the way that you guys
feel that the tone is right now that you have
a player that's not there's no tone. I'm just saying,
if you have no basis to have a piece of paper,
there's nothing that says a contract executed with him the

(07:22):
last few weeks or months can't be looked at and say,
you know, I think I want a different part of it.
Done this way and not play. You get into a
different world when you don't honor your agreements. Teem and
what you didn't hear him say, Rob before you get started?
He said, if we do a contract, what's to assures

(07:44):
that this time, next year or three months later, we
won't be talking about another contract because we're not gonna
honor contract. Because once he gets what he wants to,
the chance is a likelihood that he's going to do
something again. It's not very much the case. And he's
kidding himselves. Teams. Teams, I'll tear up contracts, cut people

(08:05):
all the time. Yes, do they pay out whatever moneys due,
Yes they do, But they do rip up contracts and
say we no longer want you, no matter how many
years you have signed for. There's plenty of contracts that
aren't finished by team. Not guaranteed. Yeah, I'm just you
get them if they cut you, and there you get
the guaranteed money. But I'm just saying, but they still
break the contract out of contract. Well, if it's not guaranteed,

(08:29):
I don't know that you're technically breaking it all right.
Then the whole idea is we've seen in the NFL.
Other guys get paid in the same scenario. So it's
not as if nobody's ever done it and it's uncharted
water and Ezekiel Elliott is trying to do something that's
never been done. It's just not the case. This is

(08:50):
what happens when you have a CBA that doesn't work
for running backs. This is That's what I agree with
you on. I don't agree. I mean, it's true, you're
right Todd Gurley and David Johnson got their contracts with
two years left on their deal. I don't think that's
a good argument for Zeke because those two contracts are

(09:11):
working against him. It doesn't matter matter, Well, you can disagree,
but it does matter, I believe because everybody's looking at
the RAMS and I remember when they gave Girle that
deal and Gurley was at that point in time healthy
and obviously tearing the league up. And I just remember saying,
not that it was a bad deal money wise, because

(09:34):
he was so good, but I remember thinking, why did
they do it? Now? There was no talk of him
holding out or him putting pressure on them, But you
don't know, right, but from the outside, it looked like
they just gifted him with this this new contract for
what he had done. Maybe they were thinking going forward

(09:55):
it would be more expensive if he's still is productive
or what. And then David and now he's banged up,
and it looks like that's a bad contract. David Johnson.
Same thing with the Arizona Cardinals. He definitely, you know,
he got hurt right after he got the contract, and
you know hasn't really lived up to it either. So
those two contracts are part of why I believe the

(10:18):
Cowboys are looking at at Zeke and saying, I don't
know if we want to go there. Where I do
agree with you on is that Zeke has no choice.
This really is about the terrible collective barden In agreement
that the Players Association made, and no one gets it
worse than the running backs. So I understand where Zeke

(10:39):
is coming from. They get used and abused and then
they're gonna get tossed aside and they're not gonna want
to pay him. He could be one of the greatest
running backs of all time for the first five years
of his career and never get the huge page. Absolutely,
and that's something's wrong with the system. If that's the right,
it's the system I don't blame the cow Boys. I

(11:00):
don't blame Jerry for that, but I do blame the system.
And that's why you and I talk all the time. Rob.
These players have got to stand up and fight for something,
and Zeke, in his own individual way, is doing that
right now. And you've seen that now with the running backs.
After Levion set out a year, running backs are looking
differently and just saying, dude, I gotta get paid. If

(11:23):
I get hurt or something happens, I may never get
that payday. And that's the scary part, is that there's
a chance that you can get hurt, no question about that.
So but I think, Rob, I'm I don't want to
say more convinced than ever. I give it about a
twenty percent chance that they could get a deal done

(11:44):
before you know, at some point next week. Everything I
read said that they're far apart. I mean, yeah, yeah,
every story I read I just don't see in the
same time. You know how these No, You're right, every
story is out there saying there far apart. But you
know how these things work. I mean, they can come
together quickly. But I I really do believe they're gonna
start the season without Zeke and uh, you know, the

(12:08):
leverage is gonna swing wildly one way or the other.
It'll be interesting because I do think Zeke is dug in. Uh.
And if the Cowboys, it'll be if the Cowboys really
start well. And let's say they're two and old, maybe
three and old, and the offense, I'm not saying Tony
Polo is running for one hundred and ten yards a game,

(12:29):
but let's say the offense is humming. They're you know,
they're not showing any signs of really missing Zeke. It'll
be interesting to see if Zeke buckles and comes in
and accepts the offer on the table painted into a corner,
I hear you. I mean, I've been saying all all
along that that's where it's gonna happen. He's either gonna

(12:51):
come in and take what they offered, or they're gonna
have to give him, you know, what he wants. But
you're right, it's getting to a point where it will
look like he's coming back with his tail between his
legs if he If he does come back and accept
the offer that's on the table, and there's pride that's involved.
You know that people have pride and they don't want

(13:12):
to look like bad. Oh you grobbled all. You cave
to Jerry. Jerry brought you to your knees. You weren't serious, Jared,
Jerry clowned you, he talked bad about you, and you
came running back. I'm telling you, especially the stuff that
Jerry has been saying. You know what I mean when
you add the other stuff. Yeah, yeah, And you know obviously,
like you said, Zeke's got pride. He's got pride in

(13:34):
his game. So I do think he'll come back and
play well, you know, just because he's he wants to
be all pro, he wants to be a Hall of
Famer and so on and so forth. But you're right,
I mean it could could because you know, negotiations always
get ugly, right, But it could ruin their relationship. It
could make Zeke play only for himself, right, right, and

(13:55):
not for the Cowboys. That's what I mean, right, Not
that he's gonna dog it once he gets back, But
I'm just saying, you do lose that like Jerry might
have been your boy. You don't forget that stuff when
it's public. You know, I understands. Get money right, unless right,
and then you say, okay, all is forgiven, and he says,
all right, I'm gonna pay you. You're the highest paid

(14:16):
running back. Then life is good. Yeah, this is uh.
I don't understand why, Jerry unless you it's just you
take it at face value. And he's really upset and
he's really playing hardball. I don't know how else to
read this stuff because it's certainly not helping the negotiations. No,

(14:37):
and not at all. No, and this is this is
gonna be interesting. But I do think they're gonna start
the season without him. All right, you're turning away. In
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, one of two
things we're asking you, Well, Jerry Jones' latest comments help
or hurt the Cowboys get Zeke Elliott back in uniform
at the start of the season. And also, do you

(14:58):
think now that the Cowboys are gonna start the season
without Zeke? And what will that mean for the team?
Will they be able to withstand it or will they crumble?
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, It's the Eye

flashback from right. That's how they do it in Iha, Rob.
I'm telling you I wasn't showing with music ever made

(15:43):
it fun. It was Parliament Funkadelic every night. I'm telling you,
True that's amazing, you know, that's the classic They rocket
in the cornfields were brought to you by a Truecar.
When it comes to selling or trading in your car,
you need to make good choices, and with True Car,
you gotta start on your roster. So when you're ready

(16:05):
to sell or trade in your car, check out True Car.
True cash offer not available in all areas. It was
already serious, but I think this latest comment from Jerry
Jones has made it even more. So. Let's see what
the callers think. Is this thing dragging into the regular
season eight seven, seven ninety nine on five? All right,

(16:25):
let's start with Richard and Victorville, California, where my aunt lives.
And what's up, Richard? How are you doing? Have we
got them part it up? Richard and Victorville or do
we lose them? All? Right? Going once, going twice, all right,
how about GW and Cincinnati. You're on the odd couple

(16:46):
of Fox Sports Radio TGI gentlemen, how's it going man?
Doing good? What's not happening? Man? Nothing much? Fran It's Friday.
I'm also I'm happy and listen to you guys. Man,
best start sports talk showing in the nature right now?
Oh always as a as a big old fan but
also a Dallas Cowboys fan and a cousin who won

(17:07):
a couple of Super Bowls and starting outside linebacker doing
the Jimmy Jones years. I think Ezekiel el is making
a mistake because who's that? Who's that? Uh? Dixon Networks?
He started outside Dixon. All I met Dixon when he
was in high school, did you yeah? Good friends with him? Yeah?
I have friends who went to Akin Yeah, yeah, I

(17:29):
was at it. How he used the DJ? Didn't he
listen to my aunt Claudia, whose prayers for it? She's
not doing well right now. But yeah, you know, like
I said, this family man, I can't. I hate to
break up your family barbecue, but we got a radio
show to get to the point. I just want to
say this man. You know, Ezekiel HELLI has two years
left on his contract. He's been in trouble every single

(17:52):
all season because he's been with the Cowboys. And you
guys talk about pride and having the sunk and come back,
you know, Jerry Jones has pride too. He actually tried
to get Roger Goodell fired because of Ezekiel Elliott and
then he decided to hold out. But where But don't
kid yourself looking at that, Jerry wasn't doing it for Ezekiel.

(18:13):
He was doing it for the for his team and
with a chance. But it was but it was about
his team, It wasn't It wasn't about Ezekiel Ellie though. No,
it wasn't about Ezekiel Elliott. It was about his team
and giving his team a chance to win with him.
That's what Jerry was fighting for. He wasn't fighting for
Ezekiel Elliott. I tendn't agree with gw on this one.

(18:36):
I don't whether whatever the motivation, he still went to battle,
but the motivation wasn't even wanted. Yeah, but he wanted
to win. It ain't like, oh my gods, the end
of the world. I mean, most people are like that.
When they you know, when they trust me, they have
their own motivation. If they hadn't have a chance to win,
he would have not be not done that. James in Virginia.

(18:57):
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, James. Oh,
we'll take you for taking my car. Then I'm gonna
have to Friday Redskin. Oh wow, hey, man, like I
was season Man, I know, hey, that's all go at God.
Don't pleep on that defense offensively with case Kimmer. They
might be suspected, but don't sleep on that defense might

(19:17):
be Go ahead, I'm trying to be domestic here. Man's
trying to bestic here. Hey, look well it give me
the Redskins still zero and zero. Right, you're right, that's
how you should feel at this point. I feel you
go ahead. All right, So but here we go man
as as a Redskins saying, well, here, I say like that.
I was telling your producer man Jay Z said the

(19:39):
best man, don't argue with bulls because people from a
distance ten tell who are too. And every time you
put your dirty laundry out for everyone to see, it's
just a problem and it just keeps thurn the pot
and thurn the pot. But as a Redskins saying as
a Redskins man. I hope they give Ezekiel Elliott twenty
million dollars a year and jak Ruscott forty million dollars
a year so they can sean that roster there is, man.

(20:02):
That's my hope. But realistically, though, realistically though, I don't
think you're gonna see Zeke for the first four weeks.
I think Zeke is out for the first four weeks
because he's gonna try to play hardball. But once you
start missing out on them game check that eight hundred
thousand dollars a week. Man. After a while, man, that
catches up with anybody in the world. So I take
it off the head man Held to the West ends.

(20:25):
Watch out for that D, guys, watch out for that D.
All right, all right, interesting, It's just hard for me
that Washington name to even be out there. He's so
big into it. He says it every time. Max and Georgia,
you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Max?
What's up? Guys? Continued pleasure As always, forget Russian Roulette.
Jerry and Zeke are playing Cowboys Roulette. We all know

(20:47):
how this game ends badly for one party. DeMarco Murray
is Cowboys operations public knowledge. Players know this, especially running back.
He was literally running to the ground. He was left
on the side of the road, stranded. Having said that,
I love this dysfunction. I love this drama. This as
Cowboys as usual, no super Bowl, no matter what who's playing,

(21:08):
I don't care. That just solidifies that to me. I
love it. Gentlemen, have a great weekend. Appreciate it. I
hear you. I mean people love it because the Cowboys
won't be at full strength, there's dissension. It opens up
stuff for other teams. I understand where fans are coming from.
Chris right, No, you're right, like this is he hit
it on the head. It's more Cowboys dysfunction and drama. No,

(21:28):
we always have talked about the Steelers being like that,
but the Cowboys, I mean, it's ridiculous. This is supposed
to be a big year for them and it's starting
off in a mess, no doubt. Hey Richard in California,
you're on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Richard? Hey, guys,
I hung up on myself. Okay, I don't know what
what happened? All right? What you guys? So I think

(21:51):
that Zeke is playing with fire. I mean, first of all,
they've given him north of twenty five million. I mean,
what does he does he want? Is it the title
of the highest paid guy that he's looking for? Is
that what he's looking for? Because if that's what he's
looking for, they won't give that to him. I guarantee
they won't give it to him because he's been such
a punk. Richard. If they started out oh and two

(22:13):
or ow and three, you don't think they're gonna come around.
I'm just asking you, um boy, hard to see if
they go. I think if they go oh into it,
maybe even if they lose to the Giant, If they
lose to the Giants and they can't get any running
game going and you're exposed, uh, Dak Prescott, don't tell
me that they're not going to reconsider it and go

(22:34):
we need this guy. Their whole offense is built around
the running game, right. All I can say is if
it was me, I would have grabbed what that what
they offer him? What was the offer so far? It
was right. It was the second highest running back in
the league, so right in between Levian Bell's thirteen million
and Girl's fourteen plush per per year. Yeah, yeah, yeah,

(22:56):
we don't know all to guarantee money and things like that.
All right, we will see one of the biggest stars
in television history is about to join Celebrity Corner. That's next,
but first let's bring his Steve to Sager for the
latest in sports. Steve, Hello, gentlemen. We have college football
tonight on FS one right now at eighteenth rank Michigan State.

(23:18):
It's spartan seven nothing over Tulsa, about six minutes to
go in the first quarter. Nineteenth ranked Wisconsin's playing at
South Florida. They're in a weather delay at the start.
The teams have just taken the field for warm up,
so within a half an hour they're due to kick
off and halftime. It's Rice seven seven tied at Army.
A late game will have on FS one Oklahoma State
at Oregon State ten thirty pm Eastern time. Panther's kicker

(23:40):
Graham Gano is out for the year with a leg injury.
The Seahawks wave quarterback Paxton Lynch. Geno Smith will be
Seattle's backup QB. The Titans gave center Ben Jones a
contract extension. Serena Williams one or third rounder at the
US Open. Roger Federer also advanced in baseball. Today at Chicago,
the Cubs won their fourth straight, seven one over Millwall Hockey,
Jose Cantana the winning pitcher. The Oakland A's are a

(24:03):
game ahead of Tampa Bay for the final ale wildcard spot,
and the A's have taken a one nothing lead at
Yankee Stadium with a home runoff cc Sabathia Jurickson Profar's
eighteenth one nothing A's top of the second inning by
the way Yankee third baseman Geo Urschella goes on the
il with a groin injuries, batting three thirty one, and
the Twins, who've won five straight games, are winning four

(24:24):
nothing at Detroit, already bottom of the first Tigers have
lost five straight. They had the worst record in the
majors at thirty nine and ninety two. National's lead to
one bottom of the first against the Marlins. The guys
are backed in ten seconds. But first, a word from Farmers.
At Farmer's Assurance, we know there's a crucial difference between
a kick drum pedal and your car's accelerator pedal. Because

(24:46):
at Farmers we've seen and covered it. We are under
written my farmers took fire insurance Exchange cent Affiliates producs
unavailable every state, odd couple. I know you talk sitcoms
a lot. I gotta mention about Actress Valerie Harper passed
away today at the age of eighty. She was No
Rota on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, won an Emmy there,
then got the spinoff show and has Roota again on

(25:06):
her own show, Roota Morgan Star. It's correct, New York
from New York. Remember, she was diagnosed with terminal brain
cancer and given only a few months to live. That
was over five years ago. White a fight. She passed
away at the age of Yeah. If you go back
and watch Rhoda, yea, if you used to watch that Rhoda,
and if you watch the old Mary Tyler Moore Show
and look at all the stars who were on that,

(25:28):
that show is unbelievable. Betty, Betty White and Ed got
his own show, right, everybody got there own show. And
you know who else was on there but real Quick
from Good Times. James Evans, the father of Gordy the
weather Man Forrdy the Weatherman. He was even on the
Mary Tyler Moore Show. Yeah, I can't remember John John Amos.

(25:50):
There we go. All right, Steve, Steve, all right, it's
the Eye Couple coming you live from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say fifteen percent of
more on your car shows with Geico. Go to Geico
dot com or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto.
The only hard part is figuring out which way is easier.
We do it every Friday. It's time for Celebrity Corner. God,

(26:15):
I know, for the odd couple celebrity corners. This week
we have a special guest for you. He was one
of the biggest TV stars in the nineteen eighties, the
famous hit show Webster. None other than the star of
that show, Emmanuel Lewis, is joining us. Emmanuel, what's happened? Wow,

(26:38):
what's happening? We are great man, it is. It is
just such an honor to have you on. And I
met I was at a convention in Las Vegas about
two or three months ago, and that's where I met
Emmanuel and we had a great conversation. He definitely knows
his sports, so we're gonna get to that. But you,

(27:01):
I mean, everybody knows you as the actor, especially Webster,
but you did a lot of other things. I mean,
you had a hit record in Japan if I'm not
correct or is that right? And you did some breakdancing
and all that. You know, I started my my entertainment
life doing a commercial. We did like over sixty commercials

(27:21):
in the span of three years, which is credible, kind
of heard of. And then I went straight into doing
music and uh and the single that hit number one
on the Japanese billboards. Um, and I did it, uh
in Japanese. And then you started in Japanese and I
did Yeah, I think it is Japanese. It's crazy. Uh, No, one,

(27:43):
there's no way ever I would ever be able to
figure out what my life and how I was gonna
turn on and what it was gonna do. You know,
just a kid from Brooklyn, you know, best job doing
that all that. Hey wow, I feel you'd being a
kid from Jamaica, queen, so that that's awesome. Yeah, so
you know, big up the pacifically six and all of that, like,

(28:04):
oh that's right, Emmanuel. And and you were also very
good friends with Michael Jackson. I mean, you guys know,
it feels kind of crazy, especially yesterday name his birthday,
and my boy a Jay Callaway. His birthday was yesterday.
They both had the same birthday. It's my my dude, right,
you know it was. It's it's really surreal. Last week

(28:28):
we just did them event with President Jimmy Carter at
his home church, First Baptist and Americans Georgia, and they
were celebrating the twenty sixth anniversary of Heal the World
Heal the Children Foundations and which the President was the
co chair. And they did the latter project with a

(28:48):
lot of immunization stuff that he was going for the
medical for the kids. And it was just crazy because
we had this looking like his name was Michael jack
Tone and he was from Japan. Oh my god, he
like he looked like a dead winger. I mean, I
love I literally just put my hand like this, you guy, like,
what the hell? It was pretty awesome. Of course, you

(29:09):
know the music music in the background, and you I
gotta be careful on how much Michael's music I can
listen to you because it's still man, I've only still fresh,
you know what I mean. Emotional? Yeah, yeah, well you
this is gonna be interesting. I asked you to send
me a few of your sports takes and you man,
you sent me a ton, which again just shows how

(29:30):
big of a sports fan you are. Now you are saying,
and Rob Park is gonna have an issue with this,
so he's gonna probably go at you. You are predicting
the Los Angeles Lakers will win the championship this year.
That's correct, right? Yeah, I mean you know I love
absolutely number one. Yes, that's what I'm saying. Now, let's

(29:50):
make it clear. I'm saying that that's what that's what's
gonna happen because, um, the IQ of that basketball team,
uh is out the room. I mean, the quip was
the great and I know, you know I heard them
talking about you know, they're getting a egger dollar up
there and baby Joe Johnson and you know those definitely

(30:12):
could tweaking up the first or whatever. But overall, I
mean the heavy hitters that they have on the benches,
one of the starters, that's pretty serious. I Mean you
can chop for opening where you want, but when you
think about the IQ of that, what you kind of
what it takes, and I and the able to to
play the full season without injury, I think that they

(30:34):
got room not only to grow, but room that if
anybody goes down somebody next, man up. I mean, I know, man,
I felt so Brian bad about the markets you're having
his injury. But you know, Javelle has been improved every year.
So they can act like they can laugh and act
like he count them out, but don't block shots. Keeth
buckets are going in so a manual, I'm gonna I'm

(30:57):
gonna start this off from another a TV guy who
whoo who you remember very vividly, And I'm gonna say,
with all due respect to Gary Coleman, what you're talking
about it? Man? You want what are you look? You know,
I realized that it sounds for a fetch. But anytime

(31:20):
you can keep doing something long enough, and it's not
like he's brand new to the organization. So anytime you
have rapport and you have energy synergy along with one another,
that changes dynamic of basketball. Now with that, i Q
what their synergy and having played with each other for
a little bit and being best friends, that makes a

(31:42):
difference because all that all that time you're playing on
the on the hard time at you know, on the
on the somebody's higher factor that that timing, uh that
asks to it. It's an an Olympic team together and
I think that's a difference that hope people don't factor.
Is all I'm gonna say to you is, I'll bet
you some chicken wings that the Lakers don't win the championship.

(32:05):
I'm picking the Clippers. I got the Clippers. The Clippers.
The Clippers like, so give me, give me who's there
starting lineup right now? All I all I know was
that added Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. I don't need
the rest of the starting lineup. Those two, those two guys,
those two guys added to what they had to go.

(32:27):
She would be great because I just I don't think
that anybody in the history that that I know of,
uh that as as dominant. Now you got both players
have done it, but any of the key players as
literally went for one team and won the championship and
go on to the next team and won the same
championship the next year. So there, I mean, it would

(32:49):
be incredible, No, that would be It would be incredible,
no doubt. But that yeah, that would be like untrusted
in it. And you know, cool up to him for
putting that off. But I just don't think they gotta
they gotta get off this feat sometime and came up,
stuck a string and third string. Pull that off because
they're gonna have to sit down sometimes and quart unless

(33:09):
they like it's playing a full season. So I don't
know that he's dropping some knowledge. It's the Eye Couple
with joined by actor Emmanuel Lewis. Now you hit me
with something else you're you think the goat? Correct me
if I'm wrong, if I'm reading the text wrong. The
goat basketball player to you is Bill Russell? Is that correct?

(33:30):
And if so, explain why so you're talking about that?
So you need me explain that. Let Indian championships. He
wants UH plus the two NBA championship, he wanted a
player plus and being the MVP of the UH the
hysing at least once or twice that guy, No way, Emanuel.

(33:50):
Just because just because somebody looks like a goat with
the goat doesn't mean he needs to go when it
comes to basketball. You respecting that man? And and what
do you play, Emanuel? When he played, how many teams
were there in the league? Was it four or five?
I don't remember, man, it wasn't that many. It's a

(34:10):
it's a different time. But at the same time, man.
I mean, you know, eleven in a row. Come on, now,
you like you like big men because your your your
your top three, our Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem
Abdula Jabar. So you like the center. Actually, actually contrary,

(34:31):
I like the little guys. That's why you look on
my my all time favorite list. You know you got Alan.
I was sitting there because I actually like the little guy.
But I keep talking about the goat who's dominant. I mean,
come on, the big guys are the most comedy. Let's
that's right, You're right, you got you got the Iras
and you got Steph and uh tell Rob how good

(34:52):
Steff is because he's a Steph hater as well. You know,
I get it, you know, steps in front of them
and uh, you know, let him shoot your life out
and and then somebody has to open up your eyes?
Did you feel dark over there? And wait a minute, Emmanuel.
Last year he had a chance in a game six
to win that game and send force a game seven.
Of course, he missed a shot, and Steph is now

(35:14):
oh for eight when the game is when they're behind
or the game is tied, and he has a chance
of putting his team ahead in the final twenty seconds,
so he's not clutch. For all the circus shots he makes,
he doesn't make any big shots. Let's just face it, Emanual,
I'm not sure about that. I mean, clearly, you don't
get two MVT for not being able to get it done. Okay,

(35:36):
And and let's not forget that one was completely uncontexted.
I mean, come on, that's how often does that happen
in the history of the NBA that you get m
VT and it's unanimous, like thrill, right, it's never happened
over than him. One last thing, one last thing right there,

(35:56):
One last thing. I want to ask you. Do you
remember Rodney Allen Rippy? I do? I do, Actually I do,
because did he ever? He did a lot of TV shows?
But I don't think he ever had a lot of
show right, Yeah, no, it Actually Rodney was famous for
the tracking a box that he had. Uh. And I
actually ran into him one time at the uh what

(36:18):
was it, the MGM Casino. I was coming in and
uh and and he was on his way out and
uh he stopped me and I cought that didn't recognized him,
the kid, he was all grown up, and uh, he
said his name. Of course we said it. I know
exactly it was, and I was like, oh wow, that's
that's dope. Well and Manuel, we we have appreciated your time. Man,

(36:40):
We thank you a lot. It was great to have
you on. And when you're when you're in LA, if
you get some time, I want you to come into
the studio. You obviously know your stuff basketball wise, so
we want you to come into the studio and spend
an hour with us and we'll just talk and I'll
be able to slap you around in person. I get that.
I can't. I believe he's try. But you know taekwon don't.

(37:02):
Don't you know taekwondo. I do taekwondo as well as
the magic Karate, and I do know western We're gonna
put that home. Man, you got beaten down. He just
park He just threated me. Hey he said he's from

(37:24):
bed Style. Why alright? Alrighty man, you thank you great stuff.
You got Rob stared now no more, don't book cat

There's a quick and easy way you could say money
switched the Geico. It only takes fifteen minutes to see

(38:07):
if you can say fifteen percent or more on your
car insurance. Go to Geco dot com and see how
much you could save. I actually think Rob Parker, I
think you're shaking a little stop. I meant, hold on.
You called him out. You called him out, and I

(38:27):
let you know, hold on, man, you gotta be careful
who you're calling out. He knows Tai Kwondo. He said
he knows karate, and then he really pulled the Trump
card on you and saying, I know Smith and West.
I know. That's when he that's when it got real.

(38:48):
And I would have said, you know what, I would
say to him, go ahead, make my day. I just
was like, you know what, he was real jazz. He
was pretty good. He was fun. He was great. Chris,
don't don't let Rob for you. He asked me here
the commercial about to walk into his car. That's right,
He's like after the show. We just walk together. I

(39:10):
just want to make sure give me a hug. Rob
can I get a hug? And when he comes in
the studio, I'm gonna pick him up as soon as
I see him. Remember that we're gonna definitely have him in.
Definitely have him in. But he knew his stuff too. Yeah, well, hey,
we'll see. Don't sleep on the lake. I'm with you
right now. I got the Clippers as a favorite too,

(39:31):
But especially if they get in good Dollar. That's the
latest rumor. We'll see if it happens. But the latest
rumors they get in good Dollar, that could be big
for them big. Let me ask you this, we're on
the subject of the NBA. Do you think the Nets
should sign Carmelo. I don't have a problem with it.
I really don't. If if they want to do that,

(39:53):
and if Carmelo's not gonna cause any issues, and it's
just wants to play and and and not be out,
you know, left out of the NBA the way that
it has happened, you know what I mean. So far,
I wouldn't ever, I wouldn't be against it. Now if
he comes in there, and if there's any kind of
disruption or I'm not doing this or you know what

(40:13):
I mean, what do you think I am? That kind
of thing? Then then I want then he's gotta be out. Well,
here's the interesting thing. Remember Katie of course won't be
there at least for the bulk of the season. It's
not the entire season. And Mellow, don't tell me. When
he looks at that roster, he says, okay, Kyrie, and
then me, he's looking at like I'm going in there

(40:34):
giving him twenty a night. I'm the second option, and
that's the challenge. He's better. He looks at Joe Harris, Cares,
Laverte Spencer then when they're good players, but they're not
better than Carmelo Anthony. And so that's where we talked
about him not being a role player. And I think
he'd go there and be like, hey, I'm gonna give
him twenty. I'm old Mellow. I couple keep it locked

(41:38):
get back to the Ezekiel Elliott Jerry Jones showdown a
little bit later. But first little news out of the NFL,
Rod Parker and obviously within the past few weeks the
jay Z signing on and coming into a partnership with
the NFL to head up some of their entertainment stuff

(42:02):
and do some social change or social justice work. That
was a big story. And now you know a lot
of people are waiting to see what jay Z is
going to do as far as social justice in this
partnership with the NFL. There was a press release today
by the NFL that announced that jay Z and the
NFL are launching and Inspired Change, a pail line. And

(42:27):
Inspire Change is the name of the social justice initiative
of the NFL in concert with the Players Coalition, So
they're launching that apparel line Inspire Change across the country,
and the proceeds from that will go toward programs that

(42:48):
are focusing on economic empowerment, police and community relations, and
criminal justice reform. They also are going to do US
Music Showcase on September fifth in Chicago at an NFL
kickoff event, obviously to kickoff the season. And it's gonna
have Meek Mill, who obviously is one of the guys

(43:09):
that Jay Z helped in terms of his uh some
of his personal social justice initiatives, Megan Trainer, another entertainer,
and Rhapsody. Rhapsody is what I guess you'd call a
conscious rapper. She's dope, she just dropped a new album
and she's solid. So that is the news, and we'll

(43:30):
get I want to hear your opinion on it, rob
But Colin Kaepernick. Colin Kaepernick tweeted, it looks like he
took a little shot at jay Z. He tweeted, a
you might have to help me out with this, rob G.
But he tweeted and excerpt from a book. Let me

(43:51):
see if I can find it here. But it's an
excerpt from a book called it essentially is kind of
decreane black capitalism. I would say, right, that's what it is.
I'm trying to find the quote he put out. You
have it, Rob g read it? Yeah? Yeah, So he
highlighted the pages of a book from a book called

(44:12):
Black Awakening and Capitalist America written by Robert al Allen
in nineteen sixty nine. So there's a whole excerpt there.
But on top of it, as the quote of the tweet,
he says, what they seek is not an end to oppression,
but the transfer of the oppressive apparatus into their own hands. Well,
and that's not a quote from Kaepernick, that's a book

(44:33):
and his quote is reading always gives me clarity. So
so yeah, it take. He takes a little subtle jab
at jay Z, but go ahead, Rob, Yeah, I'm underwhelmed
by it. I'm a concert and selling. Uh Is this
the NFL again with like brust cancer wearing a selling
merchandise or is that's where we're headed? I don't know.

(44:54):
I just that's the grand plan. Where what's the end game?
Because everybody likes to ask that, what's the end game?
With a concert before the kickoff of the season and
t shirts telling people to inspire for change. Well, what
I would say, and I'm just putting it out there.

(45:15):
I had no problem with jay Z's deal with the league.
If there were some burgeoning movement among African Americans to really,
you know, boycott the NFL or boycotted until Colin Kaepernick's
back in the league, I would have been off for it,
and then I would have been against jay Z doing it.
But there's not African Americans. There's some a few boycotting,

(45:37):
a relative few, but for the most part, we're just
going on enjoying it, just like we were before Cap.
We're upset about it, we want him back in the league,
but it's not stopping us from doing business with the
NFL in various way shapes and formed. So I got
I don't think we should hold jay Z to a
standard that none of us are willing uphold. And furthermore,

(45:58):
I mean Cap, and I'm not criticizing Cap, but I
don't think he should hold jay Z to a standard.
He's not holding Nike too. Because there are people that
came out and said, well, you can't support Cap because
jay Z has said he supports Kaepernick, and people say
you can't support a Kaepernick, But yet work for the NFL.
Nike is supporting Kaepernick right with it with his clothing
line paying in millions, but also making they have deals

(46:21):
with the NFL. They make the NFL uniform, both sides
of the fense. But but they have legal obligations with contracts,
so I do understand, but both sides of the you're
gonna hold one single individual black American, yea, I'm gonna
hold him, Yeah, multi billions. I'm gonna hold them to
standard because he was a guy who called up other

(46:43):
entertainers and told them not to take part and stuff
with the NFL, and then all of a sudden, when
they wrote him a check, it's cool. And he's the
one who showed up and told everybody sitting there with
the commissioner that okay, enough with the kneeling because he's
got a check in his pocket. Those are the things
that peop He didn't say enough with the niels, and
no he didn't. He said his exact quote. I think

(47:05):
we've moved past that. Who no, no, you know who
says it and the look I think he should have
worded it differently. He should be because it shouldn't be
Jay Z against Colin Kaepernick, which is what black people
have allowed it to become. Foolishly, I don't think we
shouldn't be talking about We're not even talking about the
social justice issues anymore. We're talking about who's a sellout

(47:28):
and who's not well. But I'm not interrupting you. They
should be working together. A part of it is kneeling.
If you want to throw the fist up like Malcolm
Jenkins was doing, that's fine, but but beyond that, you
do have to go and work toward doing something productive.

(47:50):
It can't just be a symbolic gesture. And what this
you said, what's the end game? This is not gonna
solve police brutality. No, nobody has the answer to that yet.
But what I am saying is the inspire change a
parel line. One of the ends is that the money
that they make from the apparel line is going to

(48:10):
go toward funding programs that work for economic empowerment, police
and community relations, and criminal justice reform. That is doing
something that is action. And so that's in the concert.
I'm not gonna make too much out of a concert,
but it's propaganda, and it's positive propaganda in that is

(48:30):
bringing awareness to these issues. I'm not gonna say it's
more than what it is, but it is propaganda. That's
what you know. A lot of we know how propaganda works, commercials, television, music.
This is more propaganda, but it's doing it in a
positive way. You say we should work together, but he
didn't even have the decency to even call if he

(48:51):
was wanted to work with Cap and work through this,
he didn't even have the decency to call him prior.
I'm not saying he had to call him for permission,
but to say, hey, I think we have an end
road and maybe we can work together. What do you
think this is? This is really got kicked off with you,
and it's there a way that you could be involved
and we could come to some soul that didn't even happen.

(49:14):
And when they asked him did he talk about it?
He first said he called him, and then Kaepernick had
to be the one to come out to even say, dude,
that just didn't happen. That's the stuff that balls. And
I think his girlfriend said that well whoever, but they came.
But that's part of and look, I support Kaepernick and
I actually think I've said this before. When he took

(49:36):
a knee, I thought It was courageous, number one, but
also more courageous because he was a backup. He was
a backup, and so he was expendable, and he had
to understand I'm putting my career in jeopardy. I hope
he understood that. Of course, if he had still been
a star, if he had done it after making the

(49:56):
Super Bowl, he would be in the league right now.
And my point is, and you and I have said this,
Rob Colin Kaepernick would be in the league this week
if the black players in the league saying we're all
kneeling until he's back on a team because he's clearly
good enough, or we're not playing until he's back on

(50:18):
the team. So again, I don't see why you should.
Jay Z's got to be the only black person that's
at odds with the NFL because the Kapepernick. What about
all these players, including Eric Reid who's willingly taking the
paycheck from the NFL as a football player. That's his job,
that's what he got job. I'm sure he's an intelligent
goffe really did he has another job as a job

(50:42):
to say that, I don't know. They took a settlement.
Those guys were terminated illegally. That's why they got a settlement.
Eric Reid and Colin kaeperni I've never criticized their self.
I've heard people criticize. Oh, but they took a settlement
from the league. Yeah, because they were wrongfully terminated. That's

(51:03):
why you just can't fire people for the hell of it.
And I got no Kaepernick wrongly terminated when when they
didn't get me? Why did you think he opted out
of his deal? Why do you think he sued? He sued? Why?
Why why they give him money? They didn't have to.
They could have gone through what it came. I'm with you,
but don't they know they didn't get it right. He

(51:23):
wasn't wrongly termed. He dropped it out of his own
contract and he knows nobody else signed him. And he
sued for collusion, but he which I definitely think he's
been black balled and he got the settlement. All right.
I'm just saying what people, I'm trying to make it like, well,
they took the money. The only thing that bothers me
is the way jay Z went about it and some
of the stuff that he says. He and a lot

(51:45):
of topic and I didn't tell you it was perfect.
I'm right, No, that's what I'm agreeing with what you
weren't perfect doing it. And the other thing too, is
it's just what's happened to black people for over and
over and over, which is the photo. Ops. It's always
about It's about photo. That's what it looked like to me.
With the commissioner, that's what they want. I would rather

(52:05):
have respected jay Z without the with the without the
commissioner being there, without pictures, without any of that stuff,
just saying, I don't even want to die from the NFL.
I'm gonna I'm gonna work with them to be able
to raise money or whatever. I don't need to work
for that. He's a capitalist, just like everybody else in America,
because jay Z said. Jay Z said, when he refused

(52:27):
to perform at the Super Bowl, I don't need them.
They don't give money though for that job. They don't.
They don't give money. Chrissy didn't turn down money. He said,
I don't need them, they need me, but they put
they didn't turn down the fishing where they're coming to
him saying we need you, but but he didn't turn
down money. I got no problem with the dude getting

(52:48):
money from the NFL, and he is. There are ends
to a means like people people got mad and Malcolm
Jenkins and the players coalition for taking eighty nine million
dollars for the NFL, but they've done productive things to
help black people and other people in need with that money.

(53:10):
So that's production. That's not just a symbolic gesture. As
fine as the symbolic gestures are. Those who are doing
the symbolic gestures. The kneeling should be supporting those like
Jenkins and the players. They don't have to agree with
them because you fit, but they don't have to agree
with that. I'm not cutting you off. Let me finish.
They they don't have to. But that's what you said

(53:32):
was been happening to black people for every in this country.
Divide and conquer. No, but you don't. You don't have
to fall in line because they're willing to take the
money fall from the same people. But you don't have
to fall in line because the same people gave you
the money or the same people did the unthinkable of
Colin Kaepernick, the unthinkable. That's why you can't trust them.

(53:55):
They've showed you overres true can't trust the NFL. They
had to. They had to have a rule dump to
interview black people for jobs. They had to come up
with a rule because they wouldn't even interview black people.
Those are the people down, Those are the people rob
Those are the people. Now who you're telling me it's
gonna change the country. The whole country had to have

(54:18):
a rule stop it. Affirmative action would not get rule.
But I'm don't have a rule the two black people,
won't you not talk to say the NFL. But the NFL, right,
but the league is eighty percent black, and they wouldn't
even hire black people black people. I don't understand that.
And they wouldn't hire black people. No, I'm talking about
in the league that's eighty percent. It wasn't like we

(54:40):
wanted black players to get hired in the National Hockey
League's kitty wad built on the BAM, not by any NFL.
They show many time in time trying to say the
NFL is some great justice league. But I'm just saying
it's no different from all the other corporations in America.
We're talking about the NFL, That's what I'm talking The

(55:00):
only league that had to put in a rule to
hire blacks. The whole country had to do that. I
don't remember what rule the Major League Baseball put in
them to get Jackie Robinson in baseball. Rule. We're what
I'm asking you know, I'm asking you in nineteen forty seven,
what rule did they put in? Chris Spearing defend Major

(55:21):
to tell me what rule they put in to get
Jackie Robinson in the league? You, I said, they didn't
do it. Branch Rickey put in a rule. We're gonna
take a blacks no rule. He just hired in the rule. Really,
it wasn't a rule. And you sat in here on
this same radio station and said that you think baseball

(55:42):
is is largely to blame for the lack of black
players because they're going to the Dominican Republic in the
Caribbean and getting these players for cheap. And now you're
gonna see here and defend them. I'm telling you that
they didn't need to make an NBA. They didn't need
if they didn't need to make a rule to hire
saying they never made a rule black no. That ain't

(56:03):
have nothing to do with six percent black. I didn't
have to make a damn rule to hire black people.
Get some more. That's graceful. That's the scraceful. It's disgraceful
that is six percent black. It's disgraceful that black people
can play the game, excelling the game, but there's no
job for them. That's what's disgraceful. Nobody's saying they shouldn't

(56:24):
have black coaches and and and and front office people.
But you act like it's only the NFL. I didn't
say that. We're talking about the front office people. Now
we're talking about sports, all right, We're serious up in here.
You'll turn away in eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox's jay Z's partnership with the NFL really about promoting

(56:45):
social No, it's not really about promoting social justice reform.
What do you think about this new development with jay
Z and the NFL? Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
You'll turn away in It's The Eye Couple of Fox

Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at

All right, Rob, let's get to the cars. What do
you guys think of this new initiative or announcement that
Jay Z and the NFL made today? Are you going
to the console? Are you buying a T shirt? Eight

(57:48):
seven seven ninety nine on Fox? How about Mike in
New York? You're on the odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio?
How are you doing? Our couple doing good happening? Man?
I'm all right, it's just Chris, I'm a little disappointed
in you because you know how these owners thought about
us and the whole situation. Camp was kneeling for about

(58:10):
the black father, and all they did was throw money
at a rapper. And that's all it takes for the
black community to just forget what they did to the guy, Like,
don't you think that they really cared about what was
going on, they will go to the prominent leaders in
the black community, not a rapper, and just and look
what they're doing. They're making a mockery of the situation

(58:30):
by making money out of out of it, by making merchandise.
They aren't going to really solve any problems. And if
you know, when you when here's my issue when you
say they threw a little bit of money at a
rapper made the black community, forget nobody's saying that. I said,
if the black community was really, you know, up in

(58:50):
arms and boycotting or doing something against the NFL like that,
that that would be fine. But we're not. We're not. Yeah,
we're upset that CoP's not in the league, but we're
not doing anything about it. We're still watching, We're still
playing fantasy football. Mike, you playing in the league. We're
still working for the NFL. Mia. Michael pointed, you want

(59:11):
to pick out your chest and say, I told the
man off, what's that accomplishing. I'm talking about millions. Hold on,
let me finish, because you challenge me. I'm talking about
millions of dollars being you. I don't really care what
the owners think. I don't care about production, and I'm
talking about You're talking about millions of dollars that is
being used to fund programs that are helping African Americans

(59:36):
coming from the same people who Chris coming from I Chris, Chris,
would you would people think I care about what is
being done to help our people? Can Chris? Go ahead? Okay?
Now when you say that, this is my response to
its Basically they ignored, like if j Z really wanted

(01:00:00):
to do something, do you know that Colin kaeper campaign? Yeah?
I do. Do you realize that if he really wanted
to make it difference, he could have teamed up with
Colin And you can tell me, jay Z, stop it,
stop it stop. It's no, it's not your show. You're
gonna tell me that jay Z is not making a

(01:00:21):
difference when he when he's committed fifty million dollars to
a criminal justice reform called Reform Alliance, when in two
thy fourteen he met with Governor Andrew Cuomo to discuss
criminal justice reform, eighteen months before Kaepernick was kneeling. I'm
not even gonna go through the and I'm not sitting

(01:00:41):
here to praise jay Z as some great social justice warrior,
but I'm just saying you out of You're wrong to
say he ain't doing nothing in this case dealing with
the NFL's word I question. I'm not talking about all
this stuff. I'm talking about this situation Art in Maine.
You're on the yard couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's
up Art? Well, thanks for taking my call, guys. I

(01:01:02):
really enjoyed listening to you. Guys, do get out. It's
a lot of fun passion. Um. I just I think
jay Z is just a buriant businessman and I think
it's another another forum that he's gotten into to expand
his business line. Um. I don't know about the political
side and whatnot that he may be taking, but I

(01:01:23):
just think he's He's always been very successful and I
think that's just another route that he's taking, begetting involved
with the NFL. One hundred percent, Art, I agree, he
looked at an opportunity to be able to get his
way in, not as saying that he's not going to
be a partial owner or minority owner, but getting in
the door. Maybe he's hoping that Dad would be a

(01:01:44):
way of ultimately down the road softening them and maybe
he will get get in there. So I think that
that he does have an ulterior motive as well. Marty
in Kentucky, you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What you got Marty? What's up? Tallers? What's happening? Man?
I'm good talk to you other night. Um. I'm with

(01:02:05):
Chris on this. I think we should sit back and
see what jay Z can accomplish before we judge you. Man.
I think, you know, dogging the players from taking checks
and jay Z were taking check especially when we haven't
seen what he's been what he can do for civil
rights in the NFL. We were judging two Chris, I
know what he Have we seen what the NFL has
done over the years. Have we seen what they've done?

(01:02:28):
I know one of them, hopefully jay Z can do.
And I know that I know that Orange man that
doesn't like Kaepernick is supported by Fox News like you
check Rob Parker. Fox News and Fox Sports are two
separate cup, two separate entities. I want you to know that. Well,
I look that up. Look it up, the two separate entities.

(01:02:49):
I think I got him, Chris. All right, Mary, you
don't have me, You don't have me at all. The thing? Rob,
you know, and and I feel you you know? Do
I think these owners necessarily have this great motivation to
help the African American community and fight social injustice. No,
but Black Americans have always dealt with whites, and we

(01:03:15):
have to in this country who may not like us,
may not boot pulling for us and maybe behind the
strings or trying to work against us behind the scenes,
but we need the money to go ahead and get
what we need to get done. And remember, Muhammad Ali,
Malcolm X, and Marcus Garvey all met with the Ku
Klux Klan. And I'm not saying that's something you want

(01:03:38):
to do, but they did it. And so just to
say somebody sat down with somebody doesn't mean I ain't
calling none of them sellouts. So all right, it's the
odd couple. Fox Sports Radio. We have the inside scoop
on one of the biggest contract holdouts in the NFL,
and it's coming your way next. But first let's bring
in Steve the Sager for the latest sports Steve Update

(01:04:01):
on college football on FS one at eighteenth rank. Michigan
State Spartans have kicked another field goal. It's twenty five
nothing over Tulsa, about two and a half minutes left
in the second quarter. Late start to the game with
nineteenth ranked Wisconsin at South Florida due to weather, so
they're late first quarter with the Badgers up seven nothing
on the road. Rice at Army is still seven seven
with about five minutes left in regulation. Rutgers has had

(01:04:24):
to come back at home to tie Massachusetts twenty one
all in the second quarter. At mid first quarter, Utah
State Tide at Wake four at seven seven. Online car

Seahawks wave quarterback Paxton Lynch, New Orleans cut running back
Jaquiz Rodgers. Oakland gave center Rodney Hudson a three year extension.
The Titans gave center Ben Jones a contract extension. Serena
Williams won our third rounder at the US Open. Major
League Baseball, the Cubs won their fourth straight seven one
over Milwaukee today. Saint Louis's home game tonight against the

(01:05:07):
Reds was rained out. They'll play a day night doubleheader
on Sunday at Cardinals, first place in the NL Central,
A game up on the Cubs. Dodgers will be at
Arizona in about an hour. Max Munsey of La is
out a couple weeks with a fractured risk, and the
Dodgers say extended netting will be in place when the
team returns home to Dodger Stadium on Monday. Taking a
look at the scoreboard at Yankee Stadium, it's two one

(01:05:28):
New York over the A's in the top of the fifth.
Nationals lead three two against the Marlins in the bottom
of the fourth. Back to the odd couple in ten seconds.
But first a word from Farmers. Farmers Insurance knows the
difference between a car hitting your bumper and a clown
car hitting your pocket. Sorry about that, because at Farmers
we've seen and covered it. We are under written. My

(01:05:50):
Farmers took fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable in
every state. And an autopsy showed that Angels pitcher Tyler
Skaggs had alcohol and opioids in his system at the
time of his debts. All the first today, Angels, GM,
Billy Eppler, you were saddened by that report that came
out and completely heartbroken. The toxicology report ruled to death

(01:06:10):
as accidental. Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room
in Texas on a team road trip. Odd Couple back

percent of more on your car and shooters with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call eight hundred and

(01:06:31):
out which way is easier. We are bringing in a
friend of the show. He sat in with us several
times out in La at the studios. Does a great
job analyzing the NFL. Is a Fox Sports radio analyst
and a former NFL wide receiver. Tory Girley. What's happening man, Tory?

(01:06:53):
What's going on? Fellas in a great word? Chris Bazaar
a year. Thank you, brother, thank you. It's great to
have you on man. Now. Look you you played with
Jadavian Clowney. Correct, Yeah, I grew up with him. I
was this middle school and and Pop Warner fool, didn't
you grow up with? Right? Good y'all, talk about an

(01:07:15):
athletic block. I know that's ridiculous. Your David Clowney, Steph Curry, Yeah, man,
I was. I was his coach growing up. I'm a
few years older than Jadavien, So he played with my
youngest brother, kemball and there will be times where I
was out there, uh, coach them up and getting them
ready for summer au tournaments and you know, other little

(01:07:36):
football things. But it's tremendous to watch and watch them
growing to the man who's become today, no doubt, no doubt. Now,
now what's the deal man? What is going on with
his hold out? And you know where do you think?
Is he gonna get traded? Is he gonna play for
the Texans? What do you see happening? So the situation
that's going on with the Texas is that they're trying

(01:07:56):
to strong arm them and send them to the Miami Dolphin.
You know, it's one of those situations where they want
him to go to a team that's that's not going
to come back to Vitamin, but they really don't want
to see him succeed and win, so they feel like
sending them to Miami would be right exactly. You know,
like almost how you know New York wanted to send

(01:08:19):
Odell to Cleveland or or like you stay right football
Siberia and and he isn't happy with that situation that
they unfortunately, the Texans have twisted the story and put
out a negative narrative that David hasn't been able to
defend himself on. You know, he's a team player. The

(01:08:39):
reason why they drafted him because he was the best
athlete on the board and you can't help but to
draft a six six, two hundred and eighty pound specimen
like himself. But he never fitted that system at all.
He's always been a team player since day one. And
you know, he went to the coaching staff and told him,
and he told coach O'Brien's like, hey, I've done everything

(01:08:59):
you guys have asked me to do. I've become a
pillar at his community. I'm a pro bowler and this
situation is not working. I would like to go somewhere
where I can win. And Coach O'Brien, since he has
all control over the team when it comes to being
a GM, you know, he's just kind of turning his
head to it, and they're just putting out these this
false narrative that he isn't a team player and is

(01:09:21):
really hurting him. He's got to be frustrated Tory with
you know, the season's about to start, just you know
what's happened and the predicament that he's in. I'm sure
he just wants to play football. Yeah, that's all he
wants to do right now. He's in Houston, He's spending
time with his family, is working out, but he really
misses the game. He misses being around his teammates. But

(01:09:43):
his ideal situation, he would love to play in Seattle
or in Philadelphia. The reason why he would like to
go to Seattle and give him an opportunity to play
up there in that defense with Pete Carroll where he
can get after the quarterback in a four three scheme,
as well as in Philadelphi they have the same type
scheme where he can just be one on one with
the tackle and use his athletic ability. If he want

(01:10:06):
to Philadelphia, my goodness, right, I mean, I mean either
either situation is great, but yeah, Philadelphia would be crazy.
But okay, what if they Now he has some control
over this because he can't sign long term with any
team this year, So if he tells like Miami, if
he says, look, I'm not signing with you long term,

(01:10:28):
then they may not be, you know, willing to go
ahead and trade for him. So he does have some control.
But do you think if they won't trade him to
Seattle or Philly or he can't get traded somewhere else,
would he you think he would go back and play
for the Texans this year or sit out the whole year. Well,
here's another situation that you guys haven't brought up. He

(01:10:51):
doesn't want to get tagged. And that's the biggest thing
that this problem is. He doesn't want to get a
franchise tagged because you know, he wants a long term
deal and currently Philadelphia wouldn't be able to give it
to him, as well as Seattle. So um, you know
he would with him going to one of those places,
he would hope he can go there and get a
deal and play because right now, I think his cap

(01:11:13):
number would be eighteen million a year with him being
I think a defensive end. So you know, that's a
lot of money that's coming off a cap for a
one year rental. So that'd be something that he and
his agent will out to go into and if he
if it doesn't work out, he has no problem spending
time at home and waiting to staying out because he
wanted to make sure he's in an ideal situation. He

(01:11:34):
feels like he's in his prime and he doesn't want
to waste these years being on a team that's maybe
somewhat tanking to get Trevor Lawrence or tour from University
of Alabama. It is I could just imagine being, you know,
being in that spot. And again, Chris and I talked

(01:11:56):
about this every day because we can't help it. The
CBA is so bad Tory that with the franchise tags
and the way it's done with the you know, running backs.
It's just a tough spot. The franchise tag is another thing, Chris,
that puts players in a bad spot. Yeah, it puts
you in a spot because they can tag you on

(01:12:18):
and then they can tag you again. And now now
you're sitting in your seventh year and you know, teams
can look at you like damage good. It's like, hey,
you're right, you're kind of you know, you're over the
hill right now. Why should we lock you into a
long term deal when you're already you know, eight nine
years into the NFL. So hopefully it's something that we players,

(01:12:39):
especially the guys that are actively playing sure, can take
more control of when it comes to negotiating at the
table and got to be willing to fate yes exactly,
because if not, it can be one of those situations
where it's the thing, its cycle will continue to happen
and you'll see a lot of see a lot of
wasted talent out there in the NFL because guys are

(01:13:00):
getting tagged and it's keeping him from making long term money.
It's the eye couple, joined by former NFL wide receiver
Tory Gurley, also a Fox Sports Radio NFL analyst. Tory,
we got about a minute left. How do you see
the Ezekiel Elliott situation playing out with the Cowboys? Is
he there at the start of the season in your view? No,

(01:13:21):
I don't see him being there. I think with Zeke
taking an approach, he has you all the way in now.
So you got to sit back and hope that you're
unfortunately hope that your team struggle so they can create
that value again, you know, because it's one of those
situations that if he gives in now, Jerry can lowball
him on a deal and everything he petitioned for is

(01:13:43):
kind of it was in vain. If he's gonna fall
short of the number he wants, so hopefully he stands
true to his word and waited out and get paid
the money he's rightfully earned. All right, that's Tory Gurley,
great stuff. Man. We appreciate you, No, don't, yes, sir?
Hey right? What we're getting wings at this weekend? Are

(01:14:04):
you gonna be in La? What are you talking about? You?
You stop? Stop you wings? We gotta go out. We
gonna go out and I'm gonna treat you to the
wings that you you you owe me. I still got
the gift card you gave me, so I got all right, brother.

shop talk. Nobody ain't still been a bomb shop? Do
you know that? Ain't nobody you talk about? Whoever, whatever

(01:15:06):
whatever you want to shop talk? Yes, sir, this shop
talked to our couple of Fox Sports Radio. You thought
that jay z NFL topic was heated, just wait till
we get to this one. It's a segment where we
discuss something that happened outside of the world of sports,
usually something that went viral, and this week's story involves

(01:15:27):
match dot com. Gentlemen. They did a study and published
the results online, which you can find on Twitter, that
lists the average price of a date in the United
States with a big map of the United States of America.
Just a couple of dollar figures to wear your appetite
to go on a date one day in New York
City three hundred dollars, that's outrageous, in actually two ninety

(01:15:50):
seven in California, Christoby specific two twenty six, thirty five ridiculous. Now,
I know Rob hasn't been on a date and ten yet,
that's right. I'm not I'm not paying for that. Even Delaware.
I don't even know what's in Delaware thirty four dollars

(01:16:10):
and twenty the Delaware water Gap, Right, Chris, Right, all right,
So here's the question, guys, what do you think is
an appropriate price for a date. I'm gonna say Chris
hasn't been on a date of a long time because
he's been married for right, Well, maybe he's been on
a couple of days. We know, no date. My wife
and I still date, but uh no, no no dates

(01:16:33):
with unknown folk. You know what I you know what
I want to First of all, I got a feeling
that Iowa Sam is on match dot com. Is that
not true, Iowa Sam, I've had a girlfriend for two
plus years. Okay, so you're not never been on But
I did meet my girlfriend on ten and I've been
on Match before. See, so he did good. But but

(01:16:54):
I refuse to go out and spend money like that
on a date. I would prefer to meat and go
out and have a cup of coffee or or a
glass of wine or something, Chris, and get to meet them,
you know what I mean, and talk to them. So
when's the last time you you took a woman out, like,
you know, for a nice serious day, like a nice

(01:17:14):
dinner that that might cost you two hundred dollars, like
when's the last time you did that? The day after? Never, really,
I never paid that. I was joking about that ten
years I thought I was. I never really even when
even when I met my wife and we went out
on our first date, it wasn't of that magnitude, but
we did. We had met before and then we went

(01:17:36):
out to eat and then we just connected. But I
don't think it was that that kind of money. It
was maybe maybe maybe eighty bucks or something for meal something.
It was a nice restaurant that it was an Italian restaurant,
but it was like eighty bucks. I don't know. I mean, look,
you know, Rob New York in LA. I mean, stuff

(01:17:57):
is expensive, right, but if you take somebody out to
a nice dinner, it is gonna be up in that
that price range. But Chris, here's the problem with it.
Are you Are they just going out with you for
free meal? Rob g That's and that's the issue. Like
some people, something just went by her. There was a
big viral story about two and a half three weeks
ago where a guy went out with a woman and

(01:18:19):
she was on her phone the entire time except when
it was time to order. She got appetizers, she got
a couple of glasses of steak, and he got the
vibe that she was just after him for the money.
So when the check came, he excused himself to the
restroom and the wow wow, good for him. Hey, Samuel,
samu intern, that's the n that's another nice thing about Iowa. Sam,

(01:18:42):
has you only got a few choices? Hardy's mcdut's right,
you know, Burger King, right, Sam? And women? And I'm
I'm I'm talking to the intern, Sam. I want to
ask her, Oh, yes, have you ever you just be honest,
you don't have to name names. Have you ever gone
out with somebody because they were buying you a meal
even if you weren't really interested in them? No? Absolutely not.

(01:19:03):
But do you know women who have done that? Yeah?
I know one person? Okay, yeah, one person and then
we're gonna use it as a meal, right, Like hey, yeah.
People do it all the time. I mean, especially you're
in college, you're broken. People do it all the time.
I mean my ex boyfriend we spent on Valentine's Day.
I think it was like fifty dollars a person, like

(01:19:24):
big steaks, and then I got a Pandora bracelet out
of it. That I still wear. So, I mean that's
a night. But that's what valentizing and were dating like
that was nothing else to it, all, right, Sam, we
appreciate you, but I hear you, rob because you know,
until you know, like if you're just getting to know

(01:19:46):
a person like you saying, I get it, why not
go to Starbucks or a coffee shop or somewhere you
can actually talk and get to know them and then
if you really like them, then maybe you go out
on a series, you know, a date where you're gonna
have to spend big money. Not about you, you and
your wife. Y'all a high powered top one percent wage journals.
What do you spend for your wife when you guys

(01:20:07):
do a do a date? Well, it's various levels. I
mean sometimes we'll go just to a you know, just
an average seventy five dollars, one hundred dollars. I mean
it's got to be at least at probably one hundred dollars,
probably a hundred dollars. If you get some wine or something,
you know, a glass of wine and your meal. Do
you go Dutch? Or do you pay one time and

(01:20:29):
she pays one time? Or do you always? Man? All
our money is always together, like all our money is mixed,
Like we don't have separate accounts, separate accounts. Well, hey all,
I'm gonna say, and where's that at? Right? How does
that work? You guys heard it here? America multi millionaire
Chris Brustar spends a third of what the average sucker

(01:20:50):
in New York on a date. Unbelievable. Hey no, I
mean there's different levels. You know. We went to see
Hamilton the other night. That was really expending. Great, great
play though, did you see that yet? Rob? I did not? Great?

of him. Now they're a few Charlie Castleley liked him,
but many people most people didn't like to pick. And
he has been absolutely tremendous in the preseason. Now I
know it's just preseason, but saying he's been absolutely tremendous,

(01:23:02):
it's not an overstatement. This guy was twenty nine for
thirty four. That's eighty five percent completion for four hundred
and sixteen yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Golden Tape
the best ride receiver on the Giants, who will sit
out the first four games. He said, they're calling him

(01:23:24):
Daniel Dimes. That's what the fans have been calling him
on Twitter, but the players are calling him that as well.
Golden Tape said, Daniel Dimes, that's what we call him.
He saw single high coverage he's talking about the other
game last night, saw a matchup that he liked, and
he threw a ball in there and by the time
he caught my eye was perfectly placed on the sideline

(01:23:45):
where only I could catch it. It's just a glimpse
of what's to come. They like this kid, and what
I've seen, there's nothing not to like. And I want
to know from you, Rob, what do you think about
Daniel Jones. I got my thoughts on whether or not
he should be starting. I'm gonna I'm gonna save those
for after you comment. But Eli Manning is the starter

(01:24:06):
right now. And John Merrill, the owner of the Giants,
they said, hopefully we don't see Daniel Jones this season
because that means Eli is playing well, but he's been great.
What are your thoughts? I don't expect to see him
at all. I just think that that So you think
Eli is gonna ball out? Yeah, I just know. I
just think that the Giants are not going to put
Eli out like that. We've already seen it. We've seen

(01:24:27):
how they responded. They have an an affection for Eli
because of the two Super Bowls, and I get it.
I just would be shocked because Eli's played some really
bad football and he they refused. While now, yeah, it's
been a while. I mean, so, so what this year
is gonna How is it gonna be any different from

(01:24:48):
what we've seen? And yet they've been They've gone out
of their way. We read all the stuff about Eli's
our guy, We're bringing them back. Everybody thought last year
was gonna be the end, you know, with the top draft,
you know, Chris, that they would have and that they
could get a quarterback and they would start over and
all this other stuff. And then they go get a
guy who's unholded out of college and I know we

(01:25:11):
went to Eli that went to the Mannings Football quarterback
school and all that other stuff. And I'm not gonna
knock the kid. You know what, you gotta play with
who's out there. But if you really look at that
and telling me, oh, this guy set the exhibition football
world on fire. If he was all that, they would
be considering starting him, and they're not. For all these things.

(01:25:33):
As well as he's played, there's not even one like
even hint to say that there was a competition, or
maybe we need to reevaluate. Maybe we found a diamond
in the rough. Maybe we found a Russell Wilson, do
you know what I mean, And we're gonna change up
our plan. Remember when they changed up with Russell Wilson
up in Seattle, right because they found they found something.

(01:25:54):
None of that, So I'm not believing in it. I'm
not brought in with Matt Flynn. Yes, they paid him
big money and they said, now you know what, we
found something. That's what good coaches do, Chris. You rip
up the script if you find something. And I just
don't believe in my heart that the Giants have any
any desire to displace Eli Manning, who's played poorly in

(01:26:20):
the last few years, who easily could have been benched,
easily could have been released, and so many other great quarterbacks.
I'm talking about great quarterbacks are unbelievable's careers. They've had
that happen to them, and they've gone elsewhere to finish up.
Remember a couple of years ago, they were thinking he
was gonna go to Jacksonville because because of Right, because

(01:26:44):
of Coughlin. Right, that didn't happen because the Giants are
in love with Eli. So do I believe it's gonna happen.
I do not. I believe that Daniel Jones got some
work against some second and third string people, and you know,
nobody no by that they could really go, oh yeah,
we should make a change here after the guys he
played against will be working with us next No, but

(01:27:07):
that's you know what I mean. No, But here's how Look,
I think I'm not going to belittle what Jones didn't,
and you're right, we don't want to overstate it. But
he did look fantastic. He looked great, and I get it.
It's preseason, okay. However, I do agree with the Giants
approach at this point. I don't agree with we don't

(01:27:29):
want to see him all year. You know we're gonna
play Eli all year. But I do agree with starting
Eli and here's why. If you start Daniel Jones, like
if it were an open competition, then they put that
the kibosh on that early. They said it's Eli Many's job.
He's gonna be the starter months ago, so they ended
that quickly. But if it were an open competition, at

(01:27:51):
least from what we saw in the preseason, Daniel Jones
would have won hands down. But I disagree. I agree
with the Giants not start him because if you start
Daniel Jones, he's a rookie. He's going to struggle at times,
and he doesn't have a great team around him, and
his best receiver, Golden Tate's gonna be out the first

(01:28:12):
four games. So if you start him and he struggles,
you said it robbed the fans because they love Eli
so much, they're gonna be clamoring for Eli to play.
Eli is gonna be looking over his shoulder, and Eli
wants to play, so you would be putting your rookie
in a bad position, and then you take all the

(01:28:34):
shine off of him too. But if you start Eli,
which is what they're talking about doing, if they struggle
with Eli, which I think they will, because as you said,
he hadn't been good for a while now. He was
all right at the end of last year, right after
the season was over. Right, So if you bring Eli
in as a starter and you struggle, there will come

(01:28:55):
a point where the fans will begin one team to
see Daniel Jones. They're already some there. As much as
they love Eli, they've seen what this kid's done in
the preseason. So what you want to do is the Giants,
you want to build it up, build up the momentum
toward Daniel Jones. And I think what's gonna happen. Right,

(01:29:16):
They open with Dallas, which should be a loss, even
I think without Zeke with the Cowboys. Then they've got Buffalo,
Tampa Bay and Washington, three games that if you're the
Giants you have to think you can win. I know
those teams are looking at the Giants like we can
win those games too. But if they struggle in those
three games, and let's say they're one in three and

(01:29:36):
Eli hasn't looked good at that point, you will beginning
to hear the rumblings, loud rumblings for Daniel Jones, and
maybe it'll go a little long. Maybe they win a
couple of these games. They got New England in the
sixth game of the season. Then they got ten days
off before they face Arizona. If you're struggling, then maybe

(01:29:58):
that's you're getting ten days to prepare here for a
bad team, the Arizona Cardinals, and you put Daniel Jones
in there. So I like the approach they're taking as
long as they're feeling is Look, if the season goes south,
Eli struggling, showing his age, and we just are clearly
not gonna make the playoffs, let's throw in the young kids.

(01:30:20):
But the fans will be ready for it. I think.
I don't know how you feel about a rob I
think the fans if Eli struggles and they're one in
five or two and four or whatever and Eli is
looking bad, I think the fans will be will want
Daniel Jones to replace him. Yeah, the only issue is
he's going to struggle because he's a young guy for
the most part, so either no matter when you put

(01:30:42):
him in, it's going to be an adjustment and they'll
be a struggle. So so that part, I hear you,
But I still think it'll happen. I just because of
the way Eli has played over the last number of years. Chris,
they just seem hell bent that no matter what, Eli
is going to be their guy. Otherwise they could if

(01:31:04):
Daniel Jones is really the best quarterback, you should be
playing him. You don't have to do anything. You don't
owe Eli anything. You've paid him his money. He's gonna
get Chris whatever money he's This is the last year
on his contract, so it's it's nothing like you've done
anything wrong. And this just happened to other quarterbacks who
are way better than Eli Manning, right, So that's my

(01:31:26):
only problem. If he if he's really that guy, as
a coach and a general manager and an ownership, you
gotta say, now, nope, nope, nope. This guy gives us
the best chance to win. And I don't believe that
they think that that they're going to go with Eli.
I'm saying to you right here, right now, I expect

(01:31:47):
Eli to play out the season for the Giants. I
think part of the thing is this, though Rob as
bad as Eli may have been in some of these seasons,
who were they replacing him with? They knew Geno Smith
wasn't any good after a while, Kyle Aletta, I mean,
who'd you have? You know? So now you do have
a guy. Well, look, you drafted him six. What are

(01:32:09):
you waiting for if you're not gonna play him after
drafting him six? I mean it's time to look toward
the future. I think part of it why they're not
starting him is there No, they're not gonna be very good,
so they don't want to throw him out there in
a bad situation to begin with. But I think there
will come a point where it becomes all about next
year and they throw Daniel Jones out there. But I

(01:32:33):
think you would have to admit that they really haven't
had anybody to replace Eli with us. No, but they
weren't interested in replacing him, that's why. But now they
are because they drafted this guy six. They just had
no choice to have. They had a pick, and it's
impossible if they would if they would have gone away
and not picked a quarterback. So I get it the
second time, because they didn't pick a quarterback the first

(01:32:55):
last year, right when they got to be him. I
mean no, no, no, I'm just saying they could saying
him a quarterback a quarterback. But in this case, I
think that they're allegiance to Eli is stronger than most
teams would would give um a quarterback with his numbers

(01:33:16):
the last few years. So I'm gonna just say I'm
gonna stay on the Eli bandwagon. They're gonna let him
go out players last game in New York like that.
They're gonna tip their cap and stand up and cheering
his last game at Giant Stadium, and then that'll be it.
I think it'll be You could be right. I mean,
they obviously they've they've gone with him way past what

(01:33:37):
they should have. But this kid has looked so good.
He's really put pressure on him, I think, and so
I want to see him because he's looked that good.
I want to see him, and I think, look, I
think you throw if it goes south, you throw him
in there midway through the season or whatever, and let
him take his lumps this year. Then you go in

(01:33:57):
the next year and just like the Jets now they're
expecting Darnell to actually play well, you know, because he
took his lumps last year. Let this kid take his
lumps this year at some point, and then next year
you're expecting, Okay, maybe we can do something to less
fight for a playoff spot or something, so we will see.
All right, it's time to get back to the story
of the day, Ezekiel Elliott wants a new deal, but

(01:34:19):

little bit longer to get his big paid day. We

NFL season, right September fourth, Is that Wednesday? Because the
first game is Thursday night, right, So that's gonna be
our Wednesday preview show. So I'm gonna save you know,
my my picks for for then we should we should wait, right,
but I want to give you. I'm giving you a chance. Man,

(01:36:29):
this is your last chance. We you and I made
a bet, a wing bet of course, that Pat Mahomes
will not throw forty touchdowns. I'm gonna give you a
chance quickly to change that bet. I'm gonna get out
he won't throw forty. Vegas has him at thirty seven
and a half. That's the over under. You know what's

(01:36:50):
better than Vegas last year? And this year? You won't
be better than Vas? All right? All right? Didn't double
double or nothing? What twenty wings in a larger drink,
twenty wings in the tropical fruit smoothie or a diet
code depending? All right? Saying I gave you a chance.
All right, We're gonna welcome in a guy that goes

(01:37:10):
back with both of us. I first met him in
Cleveland when I was covering the Cleveland Cavaliers in the
Mike Fritello era. Yes there was a Mike Fritello era.
He is NEWI Scruggs from NBC in Dallas Fort Worth.
He's a sports director there knewe. Welcome to the n
sub Chris So, Chris, you and I go back to

(01:37:31):
ninety four in Cleveland. Rob, you and I go back
to ninety two when I first met you NABJ, trying
to figure out how to learn this business. So yeo
and he met Rob you were you were on the
mission at the NABJ ninety two in Detroit because I
met Newey, I met stephen A, I met Chris Brussar.

(01:37:52):
That was a big, big NABJ right there. Wow, And
for people don't know, that's the National Association of Black Journalists.
But Knui, what a career he's having because he's done
everything that a long time radio show. He used to
feeling for Jim Rome when Jim Rome was good. Oh
did I say that. I'm sorry you may have started.

(01:38:14):
I'm sorry about that, but you said, know you know
what I mean. You've done a lot of stuff and
you've been in Dallas for a number of years. So
it's great to have you on the show. Hey man,
appreciate it. Appreciate it. Okay. So I'm imagine you don't
want to talk to Zeke. Yeah, so break it down.
We know you got the whole inside school, so break
it down with it to us, Okay. Um, Verry's not

(01:38:35):
happy because Zeke told him per one of my sources
he wasn't gonna hold out. Then he held out. So
for him, that's one of the things he doesn't want.
Don't sit around here, tell me one thing and you
go do another. You know, that's not so he's not
happy by I asked him on air public and I said,
you offended for everything you've done for him, that he

(01:38:58):
would take this tack for you, And he told me no.
But then I checked in with one of his people
that oh, yeah, he's not happy. So, um, that's an
issue there. But yeah, they're still willing to, you know,
give him a contract and Zeke wants to be the
highest paid guy in their mind. Since you have two
years left, you got to give us a little something

(01:39:19):
here because you're asking us to you know, hey, we're
two years left to basically rip up your deal and
and and they've be able decided and hey, we'll give
you a little bit, but we're not. I got to
figure out what the bonus money is because I know
the whole game. Cheez that that that becomes a part
of it. M I also see ezekiels, I see his position.

(01:39:41):
Jerry had no problem with paying Zach Martin the number
one guard money in the game. Had no problem paying
Travis Frederick the number one center money in the game.
So why do you all of a sudden have money
paying me as a top running back in the game.
So I see both guys point here. I think Zeke
has to hold out. I do not expect him here
for the Giants game. If Rocky arts, though his agent
is taking it this far, better go ahead and complete it.

(01:40:03):
He has to hold out, right, I knew he. I'm
with you one. Otherwise it looks it's a bad look.
And I just think that, Uh, and I'm sure he's hoping,
and I know it sounds terrible, but that they struggle
and then the thing will fall into his favor if
they get off, say they lose to the bad Giants

(01:40:24):
to start the season, or they go one and two
to start the year on three games that are very winnable,
you know what I mean, and they struggle offensively on
the ground. Uh, that that would that would tilted and
Jerry would have to come in, wouldn't he sure? I
mean he's hoping for the Emit Smith situation, you know.
Oh and three, Yeah, that's what he's That's that's what

(01:40:45):
they've got to be hoping for but at the same time, too, boy,
you picked the wrong year to try and sit that
he adn't go against the sledge schedule and the way
it's the sledge right. Here's why he's the Giants, he's Washington,
he's Brian Flores who plays jaz music. Again, I don't know.
I just it's gonna be tough because you here it
is they're talking so much about Tony Pollard. I anticipate

(01:41:05):
Alfred Moors being the guy that starts against the Giants
because Alfred is an experienced guy. He's filled in for
Zeke before, and he knows past protection. I think that's
the number one thing. You got to make sure we
are running back here. Hey, do you know pass pro
That's got to be that. You've got to make sure
Prescott stays unhealthy. So that's another reason why I believe
that he's gonna say, okay, all right, let's go go

(01:41:26):
ahead and hold out. Let's see what you do. He's
actually got some protection for himself and this defense has
gotten better than last year's defense. Now, if Tank Lawrence
is ready to go from the shoulder injury that he
because they kept all of the camp. If their defense
is what we've seen in training camp. I'll tell you
what they should be able to win these three football games,

(01:41:47):
and then we'll see exactly what Rocky Arsenal wants to do. Now,
let me also throw this on here. It's the same
guy who told me two weeks before that Zeke would
hold out, told me he said he would hold out
the Giants again, but no more. Really, Yes, here's one
thing that Rocky has to think about here. He is
your guy has led the league every year in rushing

(01:42:09):
when he's been able to play the full sixteen. If
he's holding out multiple games here, now you're talking about
the loss of another possible rushing title and the ability
to get the All Pro Pro bowlocculade. I mean, this
kid has an opportunity to to be to put together
a Hall of Fame resume. Only no way I got

(01:42:32):
to push back. That can't be your That can't be
what you're thinking about when you've seen what happens to
running backs who don't get paid. The CBA doesn't work
for running backs. If you don't get your money earlier,
you may never get it. And I just don't believe
that that's what he would get. I think you're saying
he would get money, He would just get Lei Vian

(01:42:53):
Bell money or you know, second best. They're offering that
at some point in time he does to come in.
And what I'm saying, Rob is, if here's a kid
who you've seen has the ability to lead the league
in Russian, he's done it two out of the three years.
The only time he didn't do it with me, he
didn't play as the agent. How much are you going

(01:43:13):
to to hurt your client's ability to long term when
the career is over and you look back, be an
all decade player, to have the Russian titles, to have
the kind of resume that they talk about in Kent,
I would be I would be a worse agent if
I rushed, if I had him come back and he
got hurt and never got paid, that would be. That
would be worse to me than the accolades are playing football. Now,

(01:43:35):
I'll throw another one at you. I'll throw another one
at if somebody had told me with a new organization
said newly, don't be surprised if he ends up, you
know after a few games, maybe one game, two game,
three games, firing the agent and coming on back in
and then just blaming the whole agent. You're just going
to get a whole new guy. So somebody told you
that you said that was somebody in the organization said,

(01:43:56):
don't be surprised if that happened. So we'll see the
resolve those and this is the beauty of it, man.
We're going to see how each side. Let's see how
dugging you are on this and how much you can
stomach not having the other person. Soe, this is good stuff. Man,
It's a great feeder. That's why I love covering this team. Man.
Knew he quickly in about thirty seconds because we gotta go.

(01:44:19):
They got this new offense with or at least new
play caller and offensive coordinator and Kellen Moore. I don't
think they planned to be as Zeke centric, even if
he's there as they've been the last three years. Do
you think that's true and that that is weighing into
their thinking as well, that they're gonna be doing a
lot of different things and might not need him as

(01:44:41):
much or rely on him as much as they did
in the past. No, they're still gonna feed Zeke. In fact,
I find better ways to get into football. The offense
just won't be as predictable of people line up and
know exactly what they're doing. That's those will be some
of the differences that we see. But I do believe
we'll see you know him used. They've always wanted to

(01:45:02):
find a change of pace back, but they haven't had
the guys who could really do what they do. Believe
Tony Pollard's finally that guy who could be a change
of pace back. But still this thing is still going
to center around twenty one. All right, knew he excellent stuff.
We'll have you back on. Yeah, that was granted. The
Cowboys don't make the playoffs because Zeke didn't play, all right,
and then they'll have a new head coach. So we

(01:45:23):
were talking about that, no doubt. All right, brother, keep
up the great best man. Thank you appreciate. All Right,
we're gonna go to Steve de Seger for the latest
in sports. Steve, Steve, guys in the college football game
on FS one right now, Tulsa is not only trailing
twenty five seven at Michigan State, but Tulsa on the
ground seventeen carries for minus forty five yards. They've had

(01:45:47):
five different guys carrying the ball, none for more than
zero yards total so far in this game. It was
twenty five nothing late in the first Zekiel Elliott playing
running back from it just about as many yards since
he got in the preseason. In other words, it's two
and a half minutes to go third quarter, eighteenth ranks
Fartan's lead twenty five to seven. Also in progress halftime

(01:46:08):
at South Florida and Zampa, it's nineteenth ranked Wisconsin leading
twenty eight nothing at the break. There was a weather
delay at the start of that one Army of fourteen
seven winner over Rice thanks to a touchdown pass with
about four minutes to go. Army with a game winning
touchdown pass the all run team. Aside from that game winner,
Army's quarterback was two of seven in the air thirty
six yards passing the whole game. Wake Forest had almost

(01:46:30):
taken the lead seventeen fourteen on Utah State late first half,
and Rutgers after trailing early, now leads forty one twenty
one against UMass early in the third. You need to
make good choices in with Truecar. You've got a star

game back in the first place Cardinals in the NL Central,
and the Saint Louis home game tonight against the Reds
was rained out. They'll try a day night doubleheader on
Sunday to the eighth inning in New York. As now
lead six two over the Yankees. Yanks starter CC Sabathia,
with his sore knee, lasted just three innings tonight, Nationals
holding on to a four three league against the Marlins
top of the seventh, Phillies and Mets one one bottom

(01:47:15):
of the seventh. The Mets have lost six straight games,
raise ahead of Cleveland one nothing in the bottom of
the seventh, while the Twins go to the sixth with
a twelve four lead at Detroit. The odd couple back
in ten seconds. But first, a word from Farmers. At
Farmers Insurance, we know there's a crucial difference between a
kick drum pedal and your car's accelerator pedal, because at

(01:47:36):
Farmers we've seen and covered it. We are Farmers under
written my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance exchangesent affiliates products unavailable

strange Major League Baseball record. They've been within two games
of the five hundred mark, either just above just below
for more than two months, sixty straight games being around
the five hundred mark. They have one four in a row.

(01:47:58):
They're going up against the Dodge again tonight, Dodgers Max

make sure you mark your radio dial and the time
clock for that one tonight Mob Insider, not Rob Parker,

(01:49:00):
because he's just a guy. Rod Allen's with the outcome sroughout.
How you feeling? What's up? Rod? Hey? What's going on?
Fellas like you're doing? We are great? Rod? How are you? Man?
I'm doing fantastic, Rob. I've been checking you out and
laying me on social media? Man, do you ever work?
You're all over the place here, I know it. You're
in New York, You're everywhere. When I grow up, I

(01:49:22):
want to be I was on tour Rod, you know
what I mean. It was crazy. It's good to be
you these days. Yeah, that's great, no doubt. All Right, guys,
you know how this game works. Let's just get right
to it. Three baseball stories. Story number one here, Rod
Alley get the first question. The Houston Astros are considered
the betting favorites to win the World Series, and general

(01:49:44):
manager Jeff lu Now is pretty confident that this guys
will have home field advantage when they get there. He
said in a recent interview that quote, right now, we're
a half game behind La for the best record in baseball.
I think we're gonna pass them. I think we're gonna
pass the Yankees. Think we're gonna pass them because you
know what you think of about when we're putting out
there every night, looks pretty good. Here's the question, is

(01:50:05):
it Fouler fair to expect the Astros we'll finish the
regular season with the best record in baseball. I'm gonna
go fair. And the reason why I say that is
Jeff Luno. He knows exactly what he has and he
wouldn't say it if he didn't believe it. When you've
got Burland and you've got Cold, and you've got Grenky,
and you've got those three guys going for you every

(01:50:27):
single night, and you're adding the fat guys that he's
a little upset at what happened last weekend when the
Yankees and the Dodgers hooked up in the whole country
talking about the Dodgers and the Yankees for the World Series.
So he's a little hot. Now, you know, everybody calling, Okay,
what happened up? That's exactly what's going on here. Jeff

(01:50:48):
Luno's a little bit upset, but I love him. I mean,
he's done no wrong since he's been in Houston. I mean,
he's on social media. I love what he says. He
backed it up. His team backed him up. That's the
reason why he's said what he said. He's a little upset.
He's like, don't forget about me, Dodgers and Yank I'm
gonna say it's foul. That is a foul ball. You

(01:51:09):
know what. Everybody has been writing off the Yankees all year,
even despite all the injuries they've gone through, all the
it's just unbelievable. And all they've done is win. They've
been winning all year. I do not expect them to
stop winning. The Yankees have been a juggernaut. And I
know the Dodgers had a great record too, But after

(01:51:31):
that weekend series of watching the Yankees come to Dodgers
Stadium and beat up the Dodgers, I'm convinced now more
than ever, the Yankees will wind up with the best
record in baseball. How you got the Yankees over the
Houston Astro, I do all right, I think it's fair fall.

(01:51:51):
Look we'll we'll see. I mean, these all these teams
are well within a game of each other, so any
of them could have right. But I do. Like the
Astros manager, he should feel like we're gonna have the
best record. He rod talked about their pitching staff, which
is awesome. Grinky. Grinky's actually struggled a little bit lately,

(01:52:11):
but you know, you expect him to kind of really
get rolling here. And they've won nine of their last eleven,
you know, and they they I agree with you, Ride.
I think they were a bit upset and miffed at
people like Rob Parker saying, we just watched we just
watched the World Series. You man. They hurt that in Houston.

(01:52:32):
They blasted it in the locker room. And if I'm
a player on the Astros, I like my manager coming out.
I don't look at it as man, he needs to
shut up. He's putting pressure on it. The gem. I'm sorry.
I look at it like I am happy he believes
in us. Yes, we can get it done. So I
can put Rob Parker pup on the bulletin. No, man, No,

(01:52:54):
they do that in New England with the Patriots, right right,
And we didn't even talk about their offense. The ops
is the best baseball and Corey I really ain't been
there all year long. Amazing, that's right, all right, story
number two foul a fair of the Akaba Fox Sports Radio.
Former MLB outfielder Rod Allen with the Guys. Phillies utility
man Sean Rodriguez celebrated his walk off homer earlier this

(01:53:15):
week in a really weird way. He ripped all the
Phillies fans who have been booing him and his teammate
throughout their August batting slum. Rodriguez said the Philly fans
were quote entitled and quote saying some pretty disgusting things
from from the stands. Rod Is it foul or fair
Rodriguez to rip the home fans like that? Foul? That

(01:53:38):
is a foul ball, Absolutely fou. I mean, if you've
got Mike Schmidt saying, you know what I mean, if
they boo you, they care about you, and you know
what happens in Philadelphia. They boot Fanta Claus. Everybody knows that.
I mean, he's been a good player, I mean, but
he's a utility player now and I get to frustration
as a player one for his last nineteen before the

(01:53:59):
big home But you gotta let the fans be fans.
That's an unwinnable battle for him right there. You gotta
let that go. You gotta leave that alone. Even if
you're a superstar, you don't win that battle ahead. Chris, Yeah,
I'm foul. That is a foul ball. You know. Rodriguez
has done some pretty disgusting things at the plate lately.

(01:54:20):
He's talking about the fans. What does he want? He
was one for nineteen in August and and Hoskins, I
mean back in one sixty four since the All Star break.
This is a fan base. You mentioned Santa Claus. That's
bad enough. But they boom Price Harper on opening das
right opening day. If they can boot Brice Harper to

(01:54:42):
three hundred million dollar man, you know, they can boo
role players. So I look, I get it. You hate
to be booed. You wanted to, you know, get back
at the fans. But that's a fight you can't win.
Suck it up, take it and play better. That's what
you gotta gonna go. No as foul, And I'm not

(01:55:04):
gonna belabor the point there. Anything I'm gonna say is
and Rod you mentioned it. You can't win. It's a
losing battle, So don't start up with the fans. Let
them do what they want to do, and just go
out and play ball. If you get hits, they'll cheer you.
It's just that simple, all right, guys, last one here?

(01:55:25):
Foul or fair of the yacht couple Fox Sports Radio.
The Oakland A's were able to secure a key insurance
running their win last night over the Royals thanks to
a weird rule that they call the quote out of
play rule and as batter, pop the foul ball and
you're the dugout. With runners on second and third and
Royal's third baseman, chess Lord Cuthbert, made a nice cash

(01:55:47):
wall falling into the third base dugout. It seemed like
a great play at the time, but problem is, according
to rule five point zero six B three, the runners
on second and third were allowed to advance one base
as soon as hush Bert entered the dugout, the runner
on third came home. The A's held on to win.
The rest is history. Rod is if foul a fair

(01:56:07):
of me to say that this rule has gotta go.
That's foul. That is a foul ball. Rules gotta stay.
I mean, we already changed enough rules. They got enough
stuff going on in baseball. We gotta let that stuff
go on the field. I mean, I'm sure if Chester
I haven't seen the player or not could have stayed
in fair territory and not fallen into the dugout, because

(01:56:28):
I read that he didn't know what the rule was,
so it would be interesting to see whether he could
have stayed in territory where that didn't come into play.
But you just can't change the rules. I mean, that's
just the way it is. And when you look at
where the Oakland Athletics are going, I mean their playoff
found no disrespect to the Kansas City Royals or that organization.
But I mean, you gotta let that go. I'm with you, Rod,

(01:56:50):
it's foul. That is a foul ball. It's the rule.
You gotta know the rule. You're playing the game, and
in this situation, I think you can't change everything. How
often does that happen where a guy catches the ball,
falls into the dugout and then a run comes in.
It doesn't happen that often. There's a rule for a reason.

(01:57:10):
I have no issue with it. Chris, Yeah, I think
it's foul as well. Correct me, guys if I'm wrong.
Is that rule to protect the defense, because what if
your player falls into the dugout and maybe gets hurt
or whatever, can't get the ball that they could tip,

(01:57:30):
they could run, couldn't they run advanced more than one base? Yeah,
I don't know exactly what would be, but that's a
great point, you know what I'm saying, Like, I think
they could almost be like stealing bases. You could if
you run to the dugout, you would just keep running
right right once you tagged up Chris, right right up,
you could just keep going right. So it's actually a

(01:57:53):
good rule for the defense. It worked against them this time,
but it's really there for their protection. So you're you're
way off, Rob g Yeah, yeah, whatever, that's polar fair.
All right, we'll see you next week, two weeks from now.
All right, man, you gotta take care ow standing stuff. Right.

Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It's the I couple
of Fox Sports Radio, Chris Brussard and Rob Parker, wrapping
up another wonderful three hours. Rob Parker, I really enjoyed it,
really enjoyed it. You know what, we have a dialogue.
We agree to disagree sometimes, right, it is well we

(01:59:01):
you know, with our relationship, we can do that, right,
you know everybody can't do that and still be friends. Right.
You know that you've heard radio where guys are doing
radio shows and they hate each other. Right, friendly at all? Right,
we're still hanging out and and business partners actually right,

(01:59:27):
all right, Well, let's end it on this note. Um,
we know that Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neil back and forth
the last couple of days, and they've both insisted that
it's no big it's not a beef. They're cool. You know,
there's no issues there. Remember Kobe said that if Shock
had had his work ethic, Kobe would have twelve rings

(01:59:48):
and Shock would just be the most dominant player ever,
the best player ever. Shock. Though he says everything is good,
it definitely seemed to strike a chord with him because
yesterday he posted on Instagram, it is Rob, this has
gotta be one of the best basketball photos ever. I

(02:00:09):
don't know if you saw it. Did you see it?
It is Shock, It's the I can't remember what gear
they beat the Nets in the finals. Was it maybe
oh two old, whatever the year was. Yeah, that's right,
I remember that. He Shock is dunking on all five
Nets players. Wow, Kenny Martin, Jason Kidd, Keith van Horn,

(02:00:33):
Aaron Williams, and Lucius Harris. So all five of them. Yes, yes,
it is. Go to his Instagram. It's incredible. And he
just he just wrote the caption. Damn, I was so lazy.
So it struck the chord with Shock. And I'm gonna
defend Kobe a little bit here. The question Kobe was

(02:00:54):
asked was if Shock had had your work ethic. It
wasn't it shot it works hard. It's Shock hadn't been lazy.
It was none of that. So it wasn't Kobe saying
he didn't work hard. But we know, I mean, Kobe, Michael,
Jordan Lebron, they have work ethics that are like through
the roof, and so you know, if Shaq had been

(02:01:16):
like that, I mean, my goodness, but it is a
backhand of compliment. It is Chris. I mean I know
what you're saying, but but it is. He's not saying
flat out, but he's saying that shock didn't work hard.
I mean, and nobody wants to hear that, especially a
guy who was one of the fifty greatest players of
all time and a Hall of Famer I think probably

(02:01:38):
one of the ten twelve you know, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I mean. It definitely struck a chord with him though,
which is surprising. But make sure you check out this
photo al of you. Go to Shack's Instagram. It is incredible.
I have a great weekend, you too, man, everybody have
a great Labor Day weekend. Story of my life, buddy,
