It's The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker! Chris and Rob debate whether or not the addition of Antonio Brown makes the New England Patriots the prohibitive favorites to win the Super Bowl, discuss if the losses of Brown and Le'Veon Bell in successive offseasons have turned the Pittsburgh Steelers into also-rans in the AFC, explain why the Cleveland Browns got exactly what they deserved (blown out) for trash talking all offseason, debate if Dak Prescott is really on his way to become an elite quarterback, and much more! Plus, appearances by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, Super Bowl champion and NFL Network analyst James Jones, and NBC Sports Boston host Michael Holley.

deserved at much more. Plus, we've got interviews with Hall
of Famer Rod Woodson, Super Bowl champion James Jones, and
NBC Sports Boston host Michael Holly. So let's get to it.

I know there's football on, but as I said last Thursday,

(01:55):
watch the games. The Houston Texans, the New Orleans Saints
and just about to start. But if you're so inclined,
turn down the volume and turn up the odd couple.
Let me bring in my partner, Rod Parker. What's happening, brother?
What's happening to? Mister Chris Broussard? How are you? I
am great, man, I am great. I thought it was
a great day a football yesterday. I mean, just some

(02:19):
historic performances, nearly historic performances, and some major choke jobs too.
We'll get into that. I'm believable, Yeah, one that I
think cost you a few ducats did You're a little
bit lighter in the pocket, But I know you got
money to burn, right, No money to burn. Gucci sneakers
this moment, no, I actually gotta. I had to take
them back today because you know, I thought I thought

(02:40):
I had won the money you know, so I had
to go take them back to the store because how
much can you say how much you put down or
you don't want to Yeah, no, a bet us okay,
but it was what was it? Was it with the spread?
I can't remember. No I had favorite I had. I
actually had three bets, uh, for a total of an undred.
I said to myself this year, I'm gonna bet one

(03:02):
hundred dollars a week. That's all. Let's not so did you?
You lost the Lions? So I lost the Lions, but
I won the forty nine ers and I won Green Bay,
so I wup. I wound up spending one hundred and
I made one hundred and thirty, so I actually made
thirty bucks the Lions cost me, which would have been

(03:23):
I would have probably made ninety or one hundred bucks total,
you know what I mean, double my money. Yeah, but
that was terrible. But other than that, man, uh yeah,
so much football, so much stuff. Obviously the Saturday stuff
would ab We'll get into that talk about that, but
let's welcome into our couple of crewe. Chris wouldn't be
able to do this fine radio program without him, Ralph,

(03:43):
I should say, ye, rob Ge is our producer as always,
Alex our engineer. Ralph Irvin is the update guy. He's
at the anchor desk. He'll keep us updated throughout the program.
Sam is our intern and of course Elijah is our
social media guru. And yes, they are all on the

(04:05):
other side of the glass on this Magic City Monday.
Let's kick some ass. Let's do it. Rob and right
and Chris you I know you didn't know because you
know you probably won't ignoring the fact. But I think
rob G has the football picks from this past Friday. Yeah,

(04:26):
we do that Friday. Yeah, you won a week. Congratulations.
I just want to make sure Dj Alex Tyson give
him a little theme. I just want to watch what
you even give him a little bit of mine. I'll
take this all right, enjoy it only because you go
two and three, three and two. No, rob G, please

(04:47):
Sharman m rob Ron Parker for the second consecutive season,
started out week one five and oh really, thank you, wow,
thank you. And that's my point. I went five and no.
And then if it wasn't for the Lions, I would
have been eight. No. Wow, there's no, it wasn't four.

(05:08):
The Lions they killed me. But I did seven out
of a NFL games with the spread. I just gotta
texted Mark J. Bell, they want you on the show tomorrow.
Stop and look what I got. Stopped. He was five
and old last year. It don't matter. This is a
new year. Fifty No, I did not the rest of
the season. The bottom line ended up fifty point one.

(05:29):
Want of the rats, that's all you gotta gave you live.
I even offered up my theme song for for five seconds. No,
I want a real theme song. Oh my forgot. They
copped the NFL is copying my theme song. They noticed
that I saw that on Yeah, even the mix a
DJ tysher. What was up with that? What? I didn't
see this original champions here? They used that on one

(05:52):
of their NFL commercial We gotta make a call, even
the even the remix that you threw in so like
it's uh. I didn't like it at all. But I
was one in four. But this is you were, But
you were one in four? I did want Was it
that bad? Which one did you get? Right? Chris? I
was lucky. I got the Chargers Colts and they by

(06:14):
half a point. Oh that's the one you did right?
We both we both took that. That was the only
game we took. I thought we had a few, okay,
but yeah, I didn't know we were that different. Look,
I was one in four, two and three last week
last year opening see opening week, and Christ like, I'm
like a great coaching staff. You know what, Chris, when

(06:36):
I see the first week, Now, I've got some tape
to analyze, to figure it out, and then from here
it's it's lights out. Don't worry about it. The NBA
season won't be along. Oh wait a minute, I beat
you in that too. I'm not sure because didn't you
call the nets going like today? No? I did not.
I think you did. No, I did not. You know
I did not. All I know is I said the

(06:58):
Raptors in six. All right, let's get you Antonio Brown.
You brought him up as last with time we left you.
He was with the Patriots right on Friday, and he
no the last show we did. I'm sorry, he was
with the Raiders. Yeah, he was with the Raiders and
it looked like he was playing Monday. Then Saturday he

(07:20):
releases the video of a tape conversation phone call that
he had with John Gruden, which they say that John
Gruden allowed him to. Yeah, it was previously Yeah, it
seemed like he had broken the law, and biographer came
out and said no, They called Gruden and Gruden gave permission,

(07:42):
which I think is ridiculous, but hey, that's what Gruden did.
And then it comes so then the Raiders release him.
He asked the Raiders to release him, They release him,
and what A couple of hours later he signs with
the Patriots, and then it comes out that he hired
a social media consultants to consult him on the best

(08:04):
way to get out of his Raider deal so that
he could go elsewhere. There there is suspicion around the
league that the Patriots have been tampering essentially right work,
and I think that's that may be very I mean,
why wouldn't that be true. They've they've done it before, right,
They've they've tampered with Daryl Durrell, or at least accusations, right,

(08:25):
they're doing it with Durrell Reeves La Garrett Blunt might
Tellis Bennett. Obviously they've cheated another way, so it's certainly
not beyond them to reach out and set something up. Chris,
let me say this, This is the thing that I
think fans because I saw people rejoicing, celebrating, singing Ding dong,

(08:46):
the witches after fans no, no, no, this was the
people after after he got released by the Raiders, so
celebrating that he was out of the league. Nobody wants him.
He's a cant be fair. No, equally enough, a lot
of people equally no. No, But I'm saying, like celebrating him.

(09:07):
Oh he got one over on the Raiders, no doubt.
I'm talking about like right when he was released, Like
you saw a lot of that on Twitter, like people thinking.
And the only thing I wrote a column today is
in the Shadow League dot com is that talent always
wins out. I don't care, and that he it wasn't
just if it wasn't the Patriots, he was going to

(09:29):
what was the other team? There was one other team
and the Saints. That people want talent Green Bay. What
they should have been interesting? Hey, I would have I
would have said, should not have? It seemed like the
Browns are just piling on. But that was before their game, Chris,
so they were still feeling good about themselves, right, they
didn't know. But my point is talent always wins out.

(09:50):
People want talent. That guy is too good not to
be in the league. That's that's well, he's so good.
Rob Look, and I think this is fair. I think
I don't think you'll push back on this, at least
on I'm sorry. I picked the Chiefs. I love Pat
Mahomes and I hope Pat Mahomes wins his first Super Bowl.

(10:11):
You flip flopping already, and it's you just gave the
greatest quarterback of all time, one of the greatest receivers
of all time, a quarterback who has made a career
off making mediocre pedestrian receivers great and winning with them,
and now you give him Antonio Brown. It's over. I mean,

(10:37):
I'm not. I'm not being a prisoner of the moment.
What's over? What are you talking about? I think this
is going to work out. I think Antonio Brown is
going to conform, and I think the Patriots gonna win
their seven Super Bowl. I think, Chris, you are a
prisoner of the moment. You're over picking the Jacksonville Jaguars.

(10:57):
You'll already pity him to make the playoffs the patre
and you're wrong about that. The Patriots were already one
of the Super Bowl favorites. Now you give them Antonio Brown.
My here's my thing, Chris, and I will push back.
I think you're overdoing it. I mean pushback on me
changing my prediction. No, no, no, that's fair. It's a
big change. I'm just saying, my here's my issue. Sure

(11:21):
on paper, you can look at it and say, Okay,
the Patriots look like they're going to win. When they
got Randy Moss and Tom Brady went off. Go look
at the year. He had fifty touchdowns. He was unbelievable,
thinking I might be to go. Do you remember that,
Chris was ridiculous, was like a playing Madden or something.

(11:42):
It wasn't even real, that's how good they were. They
did not win the super Bowl that year, and he
cook a miracle. But of God, not only that play, though, Chris,
but not only that play. Think about this. Remember when
Plaxico Burrus predicted this score, he said that the Giants
would win seventeen fourteen. I wish we could find to

(12:05):
take Rob g Tom Brady. Tom Brady laughs and he goes,
we're only getting fourteen. Remember that was I remember was
the big thing because they were they were getting they
were averaging thirty five or thirty eighty game. You remember
how good they were. Giants played well, Yes, still took
a miracle of guy. And I know David's hyree well

(12:26):
and he's a spiritual brother, and he was God helped
him out on that fig to him seriously that he
was gonna make play some huge part in the super Bowl.
And this he was a reserve. He's a special teamer
and you know he catches on it freaking helmet. He
knew that was going to be something spiritual because not
only did he catch that ball on his helmet, he

(12:48):
also fed a thousand people with three fish and three
loads of bread. Diet Boon, one of your better I'm surprised.
Look at you with the biblical knowledge. I know five,
I five, that's impressed. I just threw it off. I'm impressed, though,
but Rob, I get Look, of course, we don't know
what I mean. Heck, you could argue the Patriots won't

(13:10):
make the playoffs. You don't know. I mean, we don't know.
You're right, we don't know. But you can't give me
anything logical. And I'm not I'm not saying this as
an insult. What you what you said at first, it
is true on paper, it looks like they're the best team,
especially with what we saw last night. We can talk
about the Steelers being dogs all we want, but the

(13:33):
Patriots look great. And now you're gonna give them freaking
Antonio Brown. So I get you're You're right. We don't know,
we never know, but there's no logical reason to believe
the Patriots won't get it done. But here's the other part.
The same way that you you know, you fell hook

(13:54):
line and sinker for the Browns. On paper, they look
like they're going somewhere, and we got to see them yesterday,
but you support it on a little sick well. But
I'm just saying because I got them not making the playoffs,
I wasn't surprised. I wasn't music. I'm serious. Just keep

(14:14):
tooting your horn. You deserve some. I was. I was kno,
there we gon one week you really thought he's pro gee,
he knows. I've been down on the Browns forever, have
I not? I give you that, But it's one week.
You heard what Baker said. You heard what Baker said.
What he's saying, he said, this is good. I hope

(14:34):
people throw us in the trash. That'll be good for
us something to that effect. You know what, they get
to them later. They thought they were gonna have a
baker out there for him. Instead they had a candlestick maker.
It just was not good. See, you had to ruin
you a little, the biblical parable you had. All right,

(15:01):
Let's see what the listeners think. Rob eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six
sixty three sixty nine. Is it gonna work? Simple question?
Does the addition of Antonio Brown make the Patriots a
favorite to win the Super Bowl? Will they be behave?
And will it work? You're turned away in It's the

man after this, after the bets, ye, big daddy? Or
do you throw it all away? Literally already? Hey, I
got I got some Christ in my pocket. Man, I'm
whatever I gotta do, you know the semesters underway. We
were at school already. All right, we brought to you

I like the A B signing. You didn't say, do

(16:28):
you like it? Yeah? I have no, I have no
problem glad that he I'm just happy he's in the league.
He's play pots. No, I mean, I don't. I'm not
a Patriots from the standpoint of the way they do business.
But the one thing I do admire about them is
that they get it and a lot of teams they
put other teams are putting together boys, choirs, noman and

(16:48):
the Patriots are about team in the league has its
share a bad guy. But I'm just saying the Patriots
are about talent. They are, and that they're the ones
when people were like Aaron Hernandez on the not draft list.
He's the Patriots drafted him when they when people didn't
want Ojo Sinko and people didn't want Josh Gore and
all these things haven't worked out for No, I'm not

(17:10):
saying that, but it does shot. But they give it
a shot. As my point is that they're not afraid yea,
and because of the talent they like the they think
that the risk is worth it. All right, let's get
it kicked off with Matt in Seattle. Matt, you're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What you got yo?
Yo yo? What's up? Guys? You what's happening? I can't complain? So,

(17:31):
in my opinion, I think it is gonna work out. One,
because it has to. This is Abe's last opportunity to
actually make himself a Hall of Famer in the league
more than he already is. And then two, this is
Tom Brady is having to go around, so he's now
got himself a Hall of Fame wide receiver potentially. And
if these two don't work out, then there's no Super
Bowl for them. Abe, he's just gonna, you know, ride

(17:53):
off into distance. Ask what he is, this baggage caring
guy and then Tom Brady's just gonna end up with
six rings. Hey, matt Hey, One thing I do agree
with you is a b has to get back on
the field be productive because he's had a Hall of
Fame type career already. But I agree with you, like, like,

(18:13):
if you keep playing around, it could cost you. Do
you know what I mean? People mean that it cost
it costs Terrell Owens and as many you know things
as Terrell did. In the perception, it was nothing like this,
well I know, I saw he had something on didn't
you have something on Instagram or whatever? Like saying oh
and y'all thought I was like, I'll might be doing

(18:36):
sit up like the drip and pom poms. People were
like freaking child's play. That was like pea g rated stuff,
no doubt about it. All right, is it? Is it? Carlton?
Is that what? It's? Carlton in North Carolina? You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey y'all doing man,
I love y'all show y'all. Awesome man, man, thank you man.

(19:00):
You know I want for Antonio Brown thing to work.
But at the same time as the Patriots way. I
remember a few years ago whenever James Harrison came in
the league for them as a free agent. You know,
he had took a selfie with Tom Brady and little
did he know that there is no social media in
the building. So if he if he don't stop to

(19:21):
the social media stuff, it will not work. Point that
all has to cease, no doubt he's he's put out
his last social media post of the season. If indeed
he wants to remain with the paper, he just needs
to calm down on that, focusing on playing and not
like some of these crazy things too. There's some stuff

(19:41):
out there that if you read it, I don't even
know if you read the whole thing or not. I know,
like there was and this was speculation. We don't get
into that, you know, but there was speculation that when
he left the Raiders that you know, he might really
be having some issues, you know, some mental issues. If
he doesn't make this work, then I I think, again,
we're not doctors, but it would seem like there's some

(20:04):
problem there because right now, right right now, you got
your second win, your second life. All you gotta do
now would just go out and play and be the
player everybody knows you are and and more than anything, Chris,
to me, he just needs to get on the field
because enough with the you know what I mean off
the field. He needs to get on the field because
that's when he's at his best, is when he's playing.

(20:26):
How about Spoon in Detroit? You're on the odd couple
of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Boy? What's going on?
What's up? Chris? What's happening by you? Hey? I'm good? Well,
I could be better. My Lions let me die with.
The Lions cost me money. I don't know. I bet
on the Lions and they cost me money. That's y'all.
That's I mean, y'all get no pity from me. You

(20:49):
know the Lions aren't any good. Even if you won yesterday,
it was still would have been tainted. All right, Spoon,
what you got? Yeah, story for another day. I'm already
heard over that. But listen, man, I think it's just
icing on the cake. Man, I mean New England. From
what I've seen last night or where they whooped up
on him Pitts first, they got some pretty good stuff going.

(21:11):
You don't need to tamper with the ingredients on something
like this. But this dude does nothing but but help
him out. Now, if you look at the other people
that New England brought it over the past few years,
and they all had kind of like dang repretations whatever.
For some reason, these people want to play for Belichick
and they fall into his system. If the other thing

(21:33):
about that is I will tell you I don't think
Belichick have a problem with cutting anybody. And I think
if ab acts up, he's gone. And don't forget Randy
Maws didn't work out the second year, right or whatever, right,
the third year it was bad, right, right, and Ocho
didn't work out, didn't work out at all, Dalon worked out.

(21:56):
There's a lot of them. Everybody doesn't want for holding
in line and playing great when they go to New England.
So that's a myth, but that is not true that
if if he acts up, he's gone. Yeah, man, they
didn't want to do a risk thing. There's still gonna
be a contender with or without him. Let's bud with
him and on his behave best behavior there. I mean, man,
they're stacked. Let's squeeze in. Sean from Sacramento. You're on

(22:18):
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Sean, what's up,
big Ride, what's up big Chris Man? Real quick, man?
Before I jump into my point about a B you
know how impactful Chris Brusar's words is. Man, tell me
I'm sitting here. I'm sitting here watching the Browns get
absolutely rolled on. Man, and my fiance leans over to
me and say, isn't this a team that your light

(22:38):
skin do that you lit on the radio says gonna
be the best in hire NFL this year. Man, Chris Man,
you make an impact on everybody. She hating on me. Nah,
she just called it like she sees. And you know
what I say, Man, one on to the one of
the city hall and marry that woman that you game. Man,

(22:59):
you y'all. I appreciate y'all, Man, but real quick or
ab Man, I don't see this dude making it too
halfway through the season with the Patriots, Man, the biggest
thing with Belichick and y'all touched on it earlier is
just keeping your mouth shutting and going out there and
doing your job. Ab has now made himself notorious for
not being able to do any big part of that. Man,
all you have to do is be quiet and collect

(23:20):
thirty million dollars over the next four years, and he
couldn't even do that. I don't know what y'all seeing this, man,
I think it's gonna be a disaster and I don't
see it. I don't even think they need this guy. Man.
They need to stopped putting they just stopped selling their
souls for these ws, and start looking at their standards
over there in New England. Well, I don't think anybody
in their right mind can totally say they definitely think

(23:40):
AB's gonna work out. I think it will, but you
have to acknowledge the possibility that it won't. Arrest Yeah,
Mark Slavers, I think it was Mark undisputed. This morning
he brought up a good point. He said, Look, in
New England, the game plan changes every week and they're
gonna expose the weaknesses of their opponents. So one week

(24:00):
it might call for Sonya Michelle to run eighteen times,
you know, or to throw to the tight ends or
to throw in the slot more and Abe might only
get three targets one week. Is he going to be
okay with that? And that's where the challenge will be
for it, no doubt about it. Hey, let real quick,
Let's give him up. I want to give a Detroit
shout out to my man Ray Templing Man. He's he's

(24:24):
my guy who's done a lot of my can't remember
what we call it, but he's done a lot of
work for me in Detroit at Graphics, No Graphics. He
done a lot of graphics for me. He's listened to
the show, Chris. He says it sounds great in Detroit.
All right, cool, cool, cool, all right, the football conversation.
We'll continue with Super Bowl champion James Jones. He joins
us next, but first let's get to our man, Ralph

(24:46):
Irvin for the latest in Ralf. Well, thank you very much, Shelman.
You talk about all the guys that New England's brought
in with a checkered past. You also have a lot
of Super Bowl wins, just saying just reminding you, Rob No,
I get it, I know. And they also didn't win
with Randy Moss when the fifty touchtime. I'm sorry, Yeah,
I remember the six that they won under Belichick. Now,
six fifty seven ago in the first quarter at scoreless

(25:08):
Houston and the New Orleans Saints plan right now and
coming up later it'll be Denver at Oakland that's supposed
to get started about ten twenty Eastern time. Four games
going on right now in Major League Baseball in Philadelphia,
Atlanta got a leadoff home run from Ronald to Cunia,
added another in the top of the first, and the
Braves with a two nothing lead over the Phillies. Batting
in the top of the second. Pete Alonzo with his

(25:30):
forty six home run four the Mets in the bottom
of the first inning. They have that one nothing lead
over Arizona. Still batting in the opening frame, Milwaukee scored
two in the first inning, including an RBI single from
Lorenzo Caine. They have a two nothing lead over Miami
in the first ending, still scoreless the Yankees in Boston
in the bottom of the first. New York without Mike Takman.

(25:52):
He's out six to eight weeks with a cass train,
so in other words, he might be gone for the
balance of the year. Online car shop, you can be

act the wide receiver spot in Green Bay and an
NFL network analyst. It's our man, James Jones. James, Welcome
to the Eye Couple. What's going on man, We're good man,
We're so much to get to with you. We can

(27:14):
just cut out the small talk, all right, let's go
right to it. Do you think Antonio Brown is going
to behave himself and work out in New England? You
know what, man is crazy because I was just talking
to my wife about this and I was basically telling
her that it has to work out because this is

(27:35):
his agent has to be telling him, son, this is
your last chance. Like, if you go over here and
act a fool like you acted in Oakland, you better
believe that you're not gonna get anybody else to take
a shot on you and get you some good money.
But if you go over here to New England, you
act as Saints, you let your place speak for ourselves.

(27:56):
You will becoming a free agent and you will be
able to possibly starting another big deal. But if you
go over here and you act the fool with Bill Belichick,
who kind of has the reputation of getting these players
that have attitudes that are not team guys, right, then
you're going to be looking at some more money. But
if you don't want to play that long, then you
want this to be your last year over there, and

(28:17):
at the fool James. How about the biggest surprise of
the weekend, And there was a lot of over the
first big full Sunday was to me, the Browns. I
think so much was made. People were ready to crown them.
They beat one team over five hundred last year, twelve
to nine Baltimore. That was the only game that they won.

(28:37):
But how surprised were you that it just didn't work
and they had all kinds of issues And the other
thing was eighteen penalties. That's coaching. You got a first
year coach there. What about that team? Well, you know what,
I'm not really looking too much into that because I
always go back to the very first game and a
lot of the stuff that happened to the Browns out
there was kind of you know, things that happened the

(29:00):
first game. Things that you practice that you don't want
to happen. But when you don't really play your guys
a lot in preseason and then they come and they
play a live game, things like that happen. So I'm
not surprised what happened, but I am surprised at the
defense because when you look at this defense, you look
at the front seven, they have a very big time
front seven, and I'm looking at that offense for the

(29:22):
Tennessee Times with Mariota with you know, Corey Davis, with
Delaney Walker. But they have struggled. They're not a big
time offense to give up thirty plus points against that team.
And I know the offense turned the ball over some,
but they're supposed to go into that game and early
in the season, defenses are supposed to win you game.
Defenses always start off the season faster than we need.

(29:43):
All that with Green Bay and the Green Bay won
the game in Chicago right against the back absolutely, and
defenses are supposed to keep you in the game when
your offense is struggling, because that's going to happen early
in the season. So I was a little disappointed in
the Browns defense because I know this defense this season
gonna beat dommin. We're joined by James Jones, super Bowl

(30:04):
champion and with the NFL Network as an analyst. Now, James,
let's go to the Packers, your former team in former
quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Look, I'm not gonna overreact to game one,
but obviously he didn't look like Aaron Rodgers in that
first game, and and to be honest, he hasn't looked
like Aaron Rodgers in a while. I mean, is that

(30:26):
fair to say? And I'm not saying, well, last year
he wasn't. He wasn't. That wasn't a typical Aaron Rodgers year.
He's twenty, He's five hundred over his last Can I
ask the question round five hundred over his last forty
nine games heading into this last week's game, what do

(30:46):
you see with Aaron? Is there any reason to be
concerned or you think you know he's gonna get back
to the old Aaron Rodgers pretty quickly here. Well, you
know it's crazy because I talked to him after the
game and I said, man, you look like he was
every bit of slat man. You was out there, you
was out there running the ball. Well, man, you look
like you had a first light. But no, I'm not.

(31:07):
I'm not worried about Ann Rogers just because last year
he had that injury the very first game and it
was kind of killing him and he was battling it
all season long. This year, you open up the season
with a big time defense. Don't nobody want to put
the Bears defense, especially early in the season, and you're
in a brand new offense. So you're still trying to
figure out what's the things we like, what's the things

(31:28):
that we do best. And it's not good to try
to figure that out against the Bears defense week one,
because we do know that they front seven and anything
line is coming after you. So I'm not surprised he
made a couple couple throws in that game that he
missed last year, and that was the positive things about it.
But once this offense gets going and get in rhythm
and start to understand and okay the things that they do, well,

(31:48):
I think this offense is going to take off. James.
Last thing about the Steelers. You know people last year
they pooh pooh Leveon Bell not being there, James Connor,
don't who needs leave beyond they didn't make the playoffs.
This year they sold this whole idea, that audition by
subtraction that no Ab and no Leveyon Bell is going

(32:09):
to make the team better, which I never bought into.
What did you make of yesterday and their offense and
Big Ben well, you know what too? Man watching it?
The offense, man, they look lost, They look lost, and
when times got tough, you don't have them big time
playmakers and Lebon Bell and Antonio Brown to sail you
out and go to and as great as Big Ben is,

(32:31):
you need those guys to be able to bail you
out and get you out of certain situations. That's why
those guys make the big bucks. And they did not
one time got rough in that game yesterday. They did
not just say, Okay, look at we're going to this
guy or we're going to that guy. They don't have
that guy. This offense right now is trying to buy
a committee. You know what I mean, when you run
and you get that, you get the guys open through

(32:52):
the plays and all that, and you really just ain't
got to go to guy. And you've seen that last night,
and it hurt them. I mean, they opened the season
and put up three points and you know, all the
playmakers that you guys have on that team, even after
letting lay beyond and ab goal, you should make some plays.
And it seemed like they was lost and Big Ben
didn't have that go to guy to go to when
when it was getting rough. All right, James, great stuff, man, man,

(33:15):
We appreciate the knowledge. Appreciate them on man, all right, right, peace,
all right, it's only week one and Rob Parker's being
a prisoner of the moment. Rob Parker, I tell you
how next, It's the Eye Couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern,

(33:36):
four pm Pacific. It's the Eye Couple of Chris and Rob.
We've got great news for you on a Magic City Monday.
There's a quicken and easy way you could save money.
Switch the guy cod It only takes fifteen minutes to
see if you could say fifteen percent or more on
your car insurance. Go to geycall dot com and see
how much you can save. All right, before I tell
you why, Rob Parker is exactly what he's always deriding,

(34:01):
and that is a prisoner of the moment. Let me
update you on this Monday night game the Houston Texans
and the New Orleans Saints. Bad start, rough start for
both offenses. Drew Brees is already thrown an interception in
the red zone and Deshaun Watson has been sacked twice

(34:26):
and pressure throughout the game and it's tied at zero.
So slow goings right now and the Monday nights showed up.
How about Drew Brees. Are you worried about him a
little bit, Cristal, No, Remember the last time we saw
him in the second half of the year wasn't great.
And then he was bad in that playoff game. I mean,
everybody talks about that call. But he loves some points

(34:47):
on the field too in that game. Nah. Look, he's
forty one years old, so or is he forty or
forty one? But either way, he's up there. And so
at some point five the time's gonna kick in. And
a lot of times he kicked seeing right away. Remember
he kicked in on Peyton Manning right in the middle
of the season. You know, Manning, it started off really

(35:07):
strong that year and then just fell off. And so yeah,
we'll see. I'm not ready to write him off just yet,
but he's certainly off to a slow start so far.
But Rob, one week and you are already ready to
write off the Pittsburgh Steel. I can't help it, Chris.
It was ugly. I gotta be thirty three to three

(35:29):
by the Patriots, and they had the nerve to kick
a field goal. Where were they at the one yard
line or whatever? Was point? No, no, Chris, No, No,
wasn't it was. It was still enough time you need
to go in and score the dude. That was just ridiculous.
I'm sorry. I mean, now you can't get least the

(35:50):
least of the things. But here's my is my issue.
I just think that people tried to pool pool the
lack of losing uh skill position players and talented players,
and I just think I think they missed representative, misunderstood
how much those guys. And Big Ben is not getting
any better or younger. He's getting older, and he missed him.

(36:12):
He may miss He made bad throws as well. And
I think when you put a combination of an aging
quarterback and then guys who aren't as talented as the
guys who are who they've replaced, and even Juju right now, Chris,
you gotta admit he's in a different role now. He
wasn't the number one guy and was open all the

(36:33):
time because ab was out on the field to help
out a little bit. Now that you're the main guy,
it ain't gonna be as easy as you think it
probably was a year ago. Would you at least admit that,
oh yeah, you could see it yesterday. He was he
was double covered a lot of times. It really wasn't
open that often, and Ben had to go elsewhere. And
I was disappointed in some of their other receivers. The

(36:56):
one kid, what do you have to dropped? The dropped
the couple was a number eighteen and James Washington. You
probably saw this play if you watched the game that
did you see that fly pattern of that bomb he
caught on along the sidelines. Yeah, he caught it in
stride and ran out of bounds. Now I get that

(37:18):
sometimes your momentums carrying you out of bounds, you gotta
keep balanced. Yeah, I mean, yeah, it didn't appear and
that when that his momentum was carrying him out of bounds,
he had too. Now maybe he would have got caught
because the other guy. But you don't like you don't
want to go out of bounce, do it go for
the goal line. But look, I can't deny that they

(37:40):
clearly missed Antonio Brown especially but also Leyan Bell. But
they missed both of those guys. And you're right, when
it was a tough game, you could Antonio could make
a play. He could just get open. He could crate
double coverage or un to your point, if ab was
shut down because of double coverage. Then that opened it

(38:02):
up for juju. Right, And here's the other Yeah, it's
I don't think they're I'm not ready to write them off. Look,
I picked them to win the division. Now if I
just go off yesterday, I mean the ball, But you're right,
I mean they certainly looked horrible. Granted you're playing the Patriots,
I know they can't beat them. Was a bad look.
Here's the other part, Chris, it's a confidence thing too, right,

(38:25):
this was supposed to be the new uh, Pittsburgh Steelers.
We don't need those guys. We're gonna have a better
uh you know, like they could have lost and played better,
do you know what I'm saying? And lost to the Patriots,
and then you go, okay, you gotta go up to
Fox Pearol. That ain't easy to place to win a game,
but to be embarrassed and then all the stuff about Tomlin. Now,

(38:47):
I mean when you start to add all that up,
I forgot who they have in week two? But if
they lose, don't they play Do they play the Ravens
or no? A week two? But if you compile, you
you pile it up with maybe a second, you know,
tough game or bad game, and you start on two
all of a sudden, the Tomlins stuff, all the other

(39:07):
questions the Big Ben. They play the Seahawks, so that's
no way easy game either. Oh no, not at all.
So I'm just saying it Deon Sanders, and I think
this is going a bit far. Yeah, I heard, but
Dehon Sanders said today he sings Big Ben might retire
mid season, which is just can you believe he just
signed the two year extension, words like sixty seven million dollars.

(39:30):
Of course he still could, you know, retire and give
up that money. But I don't see that. And again,
I'm not writing them off after one game, but it
was bad. It was ugly. They've always been able to
replace their great receivers, you know, in the past, whether
it was Plexico Burgers with hines Ward, hines Ward with
san Antonio Holmes, Santonio Holmes with Mike Wallace, Wallace with

(39:52):
Antonio Brown. And now you want to see if Smith
Schuster can do it. I thought he could. I think
he can. It's not old. But they look you didn't
no doubt they look bad. The bottom line is they're
not even if they turn it around Rod and play
well and have a great season. They can't beat the Patriots. No,
I mean, I think that's in Foxborough. I think that's

(40:14):
pretty obvious. And you're Steelers fan, that's what hurt you
the most is that when you when you stack up
against the team that you need to be able to
stack up to see where you fit Chris, you realize
we're not in their ballpark. We're not even close. And
that's the part. If you're a Steelers fan. You could say,
we could win the division, and we could win some
games in nine or ten or eleven games, but we

(40:36):
can't get to where we really want to go, and
that organization is about winning championships, no, no question. The
good news for them is that the Browns look perhaps
even worse. I would say even worse considering that the
Steelers played the Patriots. So that's one team that you
may not have to worry about. Maybe I'm not right here,

(40:56):
but even in the brown I mean, I don't think
the Titans scored more than thirty four points all of
last year. Like for that team to pile up that
many points is pretty bad because they don't score no
no question. One of the toughest divisions. What we thought
would be one of the toughest divisions in the league
had a bad day yesterday. That's for sure. All right,

(41:16):
it's more Eye Couple coming your way. We got a
special Bill Belichick expert on in a few minutes. Keep
it locked. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at

on social media on Twitter, I am at Chris underscored Brusard.
I'm Chris Brusard sixty eight on Instagram. Rob is at

(41:58):
Rob Parker f s one on both Twitter and Instagram.
A little bit of news. In the Monday night opener
New Orleans and Houston, Deshne Watson scored a touchdown on
the twenty yard run, but landed awkwardly looked like on
his back and he's in the medical tent right now,

(42:19):
so we'll keep you updated on that. But bad news.
At least it appears for the Houston Texas. That would
be terrible because he's he's he's a great quarterm You
already see Nick Foles got knocked out. He's already. I mean,
if you're hurts my Jags, man, you don't think they're
making the playoffs now, Dude, the rookie looked pretty good. Well,

(42:44):
I think their defense. I'm not gonna write him out.
It was a tough game yesterday against the Chiefs. They're
gonna score thirty seven on everybody. But uh but anyway,
let's get to our next guest. Rob. He is from
NBC Sports Boston. He goes way back with both of
us us and he is I'm calling him. He is
as much of a Bill Belichick expert as there is

(43:07):
an Apologize three books apologist he's read three books or
Bill Belichick. It's hard man, Mike HOLLI was happening, brother apologists,
and see what I deal with every day. Farker just
come in a hot he is ready, he is ready.

(43:27):
He just hey like like the late comic Lake comic
Robin Harris say, you just sleep with your fi know it.
You're very right. Well, Mike, we are already. We're always
glad to have you on the show, no doubt about it.
And look, obviously all the news is about Antonio Brown.

(43:48):
There are those saying this will be Bill Belichick's biggest challenge.
Yet we know he's brought in reclamation projects before. Do
you agree with that? And why I do not agree
that it's his biggest challenge. He may, He's done this
a lot over the course of his career. And I
think the difference is I'm just thinking about this yesterday

(44:10):
and I was like, man, this is a good point.
I wish I had brought this up earlier. If I'm
gonna bring it up to my boys, Chris and Rob.
The biggest difference between Antonio Brown and anybody else that
he has picked up is that Brown is still at
the peak of his career. Like Randy Moss had quit
in Oakland, he still had it left, but he wasn't
showing it. Rory Dillon had a diminished role in Cincinnati,

(44:34):
so he had lost his job. Ojo Sinko was diminished,
Albert Haynesworth was diminished, Josh Gordon Cleveland and kind of
giving up on him. But Antonio Brown last year, look
at those numbers games. Ye, yet it's the first time,
the first time he brought in the guy who is
still at the top of his game. The big challenge

(44:56):
will be, Okay, Antonio Brown can show up on time. Uh.
You know how Belichick hates Instagram and hates Twitter. Hey,
you know, don't be put to cut all that out, Like,
don't do they have a rule no social media? No,
they don't have a rule. But what he's gonna have
to do, first of all, if he just if he
records Belichick like he did John Gruden, Man, he'll get

(45:21):
cut I thought. I know. That's why the Patriots got him,
is because he came with his own recording up equipment.
All right, baby, you know, Parker, I made from your
best mind all the time, I say, But he's startled
from Twitter. He stole it from Twitter. There, somebody put

(45:42):
that on Twitter. You know, So Parker, think about that.
Think about the irony here you do a Patriots joke
about how they steal stuff. I stole it. Hey, what's
what's the Uh, you know, you've been in Boston how
many years? Now you've been I can't ridiculous and that's crazy.

(46:04):
It was like my twenty two year running Detroit. But
but this is it. You know that that fan base
and you've been there forever. Do they just I mean,
at first you say Antonio Brown with the with the Patriots,
or are they just like so drunk as far as
with the winning that it's by any means necessary, They don't.

(46:24):
They overlook it. They don't care whoever they can bring
in to give him a chance to win. They're all
on board. Have they been any pushed back, like why
are the Patriots doing this? Or do people just say
it's worked, we don't care, we want them. Yeah, I
would say there's some pushback, Rob But for the most part,
there's a phrase that got started after the Patriots one

(46:45):
and two thousand and one of Super Bowl thirty six,
and the phrases and Bill we trust, and that's that
is your loyalist Patriots fan and Bill we trust. If
he said it's time to cut lawyer malloy, move on
from see more trade logan mankins on and on on
Donald list if trade drew bletso if Bill says it,

(47:07):
then it must be a good idea, even though it's
not always a good idea. I mean, he does make mistakes. Yeah,
so so Yeah, Malcolm Bumbler and the Super Bowl, that's
a time example. But yeah, I think most Patriots fans say, sure,
you get pick up Antonio Brown for free when they
were about to give him the Steelers a first round
pick for him in March. Pretty good deal for the Patriots,

(47:29):
and they know the culture is strong enough. If Antonio
Brown doesn't work out, they'll move on from him. So
do you think this works out? And if so or
if not? Why? I think it will work out because
he can ball, Because he can ball, and all the
all the all the people who come to the Patriots say,
they make it so easy for them. You don't have

(47:52):
to stand out. Belichick will always protect you. He doesn't
have a problem playing the a hole. That's it. That's
what he does. That's what he does very well. Yeah,
he'll stand there in press conferences and stare you down
and give you non answers to protect the team. All
they do, all they have to do is worry about
playing football. And that goes Tom Brady all the way

(48:13):
down to the fifty third guys. Now, if Antonio Brown
is just addicted. If he's addicted to the drama, if
he really needs to be on IG all the time,
then I think it won't work. But he's got a balance,
or he's got a reconcile. What is it I really want?
So I want to win a super Bowl? Or do
I want a little more attention just so people can

(48:34):
see what I'm all about. If he wants to win
a super Bowl, then I think he can get in
line for a year now. But now if we start
talking about three years, no, that's not gonna work. There's
a shelf life to guys like this. For Randy Moss,
it worked here about three in a quarter seasons, three
in a quarter season, then that was over. And for
Antonio Brown, I'm guessing a year. I would guess is

(48:55):
Michael Holly from NBC Sports in Boston here on the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Uh. The other part
is Chris has already crowned them that they're gonna win
the championship. I had to stop them from being prisoner
of the moment. I think it'll work out, but I
think they'll win it. But here's my thing city last week.
But that's just all I'm saying, but Michael, we saw

(49:15):
when Tom Brady had Randy Moss, they didn't win the
Super Bowl that year. They were eighteen and old. Tom
Brady scoffs at the idea that they were going to
score fourteen points in the Super Bowl. You remember that,
and they wind up a miracle of gods. No, what
I'm just saying, it ain't automatic. Tom Brady is still
forty two years old. Yeah, I mean, yeah, they had

(49:38):
Randy Moss. I think that's a little I think it's
a little revision its history too. Thank you by Hi.
It's not like they didn't win because they had that.
I mean, you know, Moss caught what should have been
the winning touchdown. And give the Giants credit, they did
all sorts of amazing things in that drive, including David
Tyree's catch off the helmet. But if you look at

(50:00):
their talent, if you look at their receiver talent without
Antonio Brown you saw him last night, the Patriots always
figure out a way to score. I mean, I think
it's been about eight, eight or nine years since they
weren't in the top five and offense in that year
that they weren't, they were number six, So they figure
it out when they don't have a true number one receiver,

(50:22):
like a big time top five receiver. Now that they
now that they have one, Yeah, it's gonna be really
difficult to stop them in their defense? Is good? Well
the d you brought up the defense? Um, I mean
it looks spectacular against Pittsburgh. Now some of that might
be still. But why do you think the defense is
really good now? And why all of a sudden? I mean,

(50:42):
it wasn't terrible last year, but if it's as good
as it looked last night, then that's a that's a
nice improvement. Yeah, man, I think the defense is good.
A couple of questions about the defense, and we got
to figure it out. When if you guys actually invite
me in studio, you invite me in the studio, we
could talk yourn Are you kidding at any time? What

(51:03):
are you crazy? You just don't We're not. But we're
not paying for airfare? Does have spirit of a flight
from Boston here my brother my brother lives out there.
I can charge it off as buses and family there
we go. We like but but two but two things
to look for. One, they have still an unknown defensive coordinator.

(51:25):
Some people say it's Bill Belichick. I don't think it's Belichick's.
You can't be the defensive coordinator when your mouth doesn't
move and the team is on defense. So it's either
rookie rookie coach Gerard Mayo or Belichick's son Stephen or
some combination. And so sometimes an experience offensive coordinator can
really make you pay for that. And the other thing

(51:46):
last night you saw it. I mean, the Steelers made
some questionable decisions on offense. I have no idea why
they were an empty thirdain goal or in shotgun thirdain goal,
and they run a fade to not even their best
or even the second best player. They're going to Dante
Moncream on the fight. That was crazy. And then to

(52:07):
kick the field goal. To kick the field goal when
you need a touchdown, you cann field goal to make
it twenty to three. I mean, yeah, Bill Belichick and
Tom Brady look at that and they shrug and they say,
that's not gonna get it done. So now I think
a more experienced, a more shavvy offense will challenge them.
That the Steelers always struggle at Jilette Stadium versus the Patriots.

(52:29):
They beat him last year in Pittsburgh, but at Gilette
Stadium they do things that they don't always make a
lot of sense. Hey, hey, I want to I want
to ask you switched to baseball. You guys had a
big firing last night and Dave Dombrowski foolish. What a
foolish thing to do for the rest of Dave Dombrowski. Now,
now this is what I'm want to ask you. Dave
Dombrowski was relieved of duties last night, and a lot

(52:51):
of people have thrown a lot of stuff out there.
They lost last night to the Yankees. That was thirteen
times they've lost. They've They've had a bad year. You know.
People are saying that the farm system is like Davids
uh depleted, that the farm system is no good. But
they did win the World Series just ten months ago.

(53:12):
I can't buy Mike that it's about their play and
not some sort of other scandal let's involved. It just
doesn't sound right. Usually usually Parker, I'm thinking, man, you've
been a little too cynical. I think you're spot on.
I think you're spot on here. Something's going on. I
don't know what it is. Maybe I need to put
my investigative reporter hat on and go over there and

(53:36):
kick some things around. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
Not only did they win the World Series last year, Fellas,
it's the best season in franchise. Yes, right, the best
season in franchise history. One hundred eight wins in a
regular season. Uh, they rolled through the postseason. They weren't
taken to the limit in any series, whether it was
again the Dodgers, and to to move on. Look, he

(54:00):
made mistakes. Dave Dombrowski definitely did. I think he was
a little too eager to sign Chris Pale to a
long term contract. He didn't get the relief help that
the team needed to But to fire him and what
you guys will really will appreciate. Whether you're a Red
Sox fan, Dodgers fan, or Angels, think of it this way.

(54:22):
Somebody brings you in to do it when the when
the franchise is at its low. It's whether you're a
radio host or a baseball general manager. They say, we're
in last place, we're struggling. Make us relevant, make us champions.
You do exactly that, and then they say, well, wait
a minute, you know you got them back to relevant

(54:43):
after back to back last place finishes. He immediately turned
them into contenders, finished in first place each season, each
full season he had the job until this year shut
a record for wins, and they moved on. From now
they start talking about the farm system. But who's the
farm system to bring in Chris sailing right now? They're

(55:05):
using it. Now, they're using that against them. And here's
the last point on that. This is why I just
feel like there's something on the other day. Why are
you firing him before this this three weeks left in
the season. You could have fired him after the season, Chris, right,
you don't fire a guy with with three weeks left?
What is that about? You're telling me he's got to
get out of the building immediately. There's something going on.

(55:28):
There's some there's some there's some great baseball writers around
the country. They'll figure out the story. Or if they don't,
you know, maybe we can we can collaborate on it
and get us, get us an award or something. He
is Michael Holly, NBC Boston, great stuff man, as always.

get a man. We appreciate a brother piece. I think
I'm ficked in my stomach. It was a record setting

All right, Rob, there were so many great stories yesterday,
but really none greater let's just keep it real than
what Lamar Jackson did. And I'm one, I think both
of us, but I speak for myself. I'm one that

(57:37):
has not believed and I'm not fully there yet, but
I didn't believe he would work out in the NFL.
You know, I think I think you could run as
much as he did. It's credit he only ran six
times or three times yesterday. Well, there was no reason
to run when you're playing the Dolphins. I mean, it
was embarrassing. It was. It was embarrassing for them. But

(57:59):
I'm not gonna take the credit away from him. I mean,
he had an absolutely brilliant performance. Brilliant He goes seventeen
for twenty three hundred and twenty four yards, five touchdowns,
no interceptions, and a perfect rob a perfect rating of

(58:23):
one fifty eight point three. And what is that the
youngest player ever to have the perfect rating? Right quarterback rating? Yep,
there's been several it's you know, you might think it's
it's something that doesn't happen a lot, but it actually
has happened quite a bit, right right about seventy times
something like that in NFL. He's the youngest guy ever
do it. Yeah, it was just unbelievable when you're right

(58:43):
it was the Dolphins. I mean they probably quit halfway
through the game as far as with all the turmoil
if you're if you're can you imagine being a Dolphins
fan being at that game yesterday thinking what is I
know that we talked about it, Chris about them tanking,
but wow, that was so they gave fifty nine points
to a guy who doesn't even throw the football, to

(59:04):
a team that doesn't score like that. Well, John Harball
has said coming into this season that the offense that
they have this year is going to revolutionize the way
football's played, and at least for one game, it looked
like he was right on the money. Now I chuckled
when I heard that stuff, you know, or in the preseason.

(59:25):
But boy, I mean we'll get to the Dolphins and
how bad they looked. But Lamar Jackson, I mean, absolutely
phenomenal and all his throwing as well as he threw it.
It just opened things up for their free agent acquisition
mark Ingram, who had one hundred and seventy one hundred
and seven yards on fourteen carries, rob two touchdowns, and

(59:48):
they a lot of people have picked them to win
that division. I didn't even pick them to make the
playoffs out of that division because I didn't think that
Lamar Jackson would be able to hold up. I did
pick so far they look really good. You pick him
to win the division? Yeah, because I was, Uh, I'm
down on the uh Steelers right ye? And the Browns

(01:00:11):
those are so I wound up picking the Ravens out
of that division because I just I didn't buy into
the other two teams that a lot of people liked.
He looked Jackson threw it. I remember seeing him a
little bit in the preseason, and he threw it better.
You know. I didn't put a ton of stock into
it because it was preseason, but I did notice. Look,
he does look much better as far as the way.

(01:00:33):
Don't forget he was a big time throw in college.
I mean, he wasn't the most accurate, no, but he right, Yeah,
he wasn't wasn't strictly a running quarterback. Um, but look,
it's fun to watch. I mean next I don't know
who they have next week, but we'll see if he
can keep this up. They've got they got the Cardinals

(01:00:55):
next week, so it could be another uh not not
to you know, throw shadeed your Lions robed. But the
Cardinals ain't that good. No, it could be another big
showing for the Ravens. But we'll see. The Cardinals aren't good, Chris.
They there's no way they were down twenty four to
six in the fourth quarter. Couldn't move the ball. I mean,

(01:01:18):
it was embarrassing. They looked horror ball. There were all
types of memes about Kyler Murray. Did you see that? Yes,
him running like you know, like it was gump. It was.
It was a joke, that's what everybody thought. Because and
then the Lions gave it up at the end, and
that was I mean, they didn't lose the game. But
to me, Chris, that's a that's an l Yeah. I mean,

(01:01:40):
if you're the Cardinals, you'll take that. It's better than
the losses the tie. But yeah, if you're the Lions,
that's a loss of your division. You hate to have
that happen. So let me ask you, do you think
are you changing your opinion on Jackson? Like, are you
ready to say, Okay, this guy's going to work in
the NFL. H that's a great sign right there. You

(01:02:01):
gotta feel if you're a Ravens fan, you feel like, well,
he's capable. And even though it's against a bad defense
or whatever it was going on with him, it doesn't matter.
Did right It wasn't like they squeaked by, right, you
still did the bad teams you kick their butt and
he kicked their butt. So that's the part that I
think is great that uh, that they got that out

(01:02:25):
of the way, and going into a season, he has
to feel great. They have to feel great because we
know what he can do with his legs, Chris, and
now he just showed defenses. Hey, you go ahead and
disrespect me and think I can't throw the ball, right
and think you put nine in the box? Eight in
the box? Right, Yeah, go ahead and show and then

(01:02:45):
let me show you what I can do. So moving forward,
I think you have to reevaluate their offense and reevaluate him.
And I don't think you could just put eight or
nine in the box and think you're gonna stop him. No,
you're absolutely right. And the thing is when you take
those guys out of the box and play more of
a you know, a normal defensive coverage in the secondary,
then they're gonna be a dangerous with the run. Not

(01:03:08):
only Ingram, but that's when Jackson can hurt you. So
it was a great start for them, obviously. I think
the biggest challenge for him is gonna be staying healthy,
you know, because when he does, he's a small guy.
You know, he's not as big as Michael Vick even
you know you're talking about body type. Uh, he's certainly
not as big as Cam Newton and Randall Cunningham, Donovan

(01:03:31):
mcnabs and some of these guys who have been running quarterbacks.
So I think that's gonna be his challenge. But if
he can stay healthy, remember he doesn't have to be
Pat Mahomes every week for now. You don't need to
do that great defense. I was gonna say, we've already
seen how many group teams have we seen with great defenses? Yeah,
And the big thing is just don't throw the bad
turn off, you know, pick or fumble the ball. Can

(01:03:55):
hold on to the ball, you can win with a
guy like that easily when you have a superior defense,
which I think the Ravens have no question. So our
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens the team to beat in
the AFC North Hall of Famer Rod Woodson has the
answer next. But first let's get to our boy Ralph
Irvin for the latest in sports route. Ralf Well, you
guys talk about Lamar Jackson. Well, Deshaun Watson says, Hey,

(01:04:17):
what about me? Third and golf from the two. Here's
the snap to the Shawn. He's got time, he's looking.
He fires off at the medal. He's got nuke for
the touchdown two yard TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins from
the Shawn. Watson and the Texans are up two scores
on New Orleans Sports Radio six ten Texans Radio Network
with the call. So far, Watson twelve of seventeen, one

(01:04:39):
hundred and twenty nine yards and that's with a touchdown pass.
He also has run three times for twenty two yards
and another score. Houston of fourteen three lead over New
Orleans a minute and a half to play in the
first half. Online car shopping can be confusing, not anymore
with True Price from Truecar now I you can know
the exact freight she'll pay for your next car soon.
Is it true? Carter enjoy a more confident car buying experience.

(01:05:02):
Five games going on right now in Major League Baseball.
They're still scoreless at Fenway between the Yankees and Boston.
They're now in the fourth inning. Atlanta scored a pair
of runs in the first and second innings. That's been
enough so far. They're shutting out Philadelphia for nothing. In
the fifth. The Mets have just added another run. They
have a two nothing lead on Arizona. They are in
the bottom of the fourth inning, Milwaukee holding still on

(01:05:24):
a two run first ending. They lead in Miami to
nothing in the top of the fourth, still scoreless, bottom
of the first Oakland playing at Houston. Now back to
the odd couple in ten seconds. But first award from Farmers.

football talk with Chris Bruce Sard, Rob Parker, and Pro
Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson. Thank you, Ralph. It
is the couple coming to you live from the Guetico
Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say, fifteen percent

(01:06:05):
of the more on your corn insurance with Getico. Go
to Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine four
seven Auto. The only hard party that's figuring out which
way is easier. Let's go to the Hall of Famer,
the NFL analysts and as he would say, our brother
from another mother. What's up, Rod? How you doing? Man?
What's going on? Fellows? What's up with you? I knew

(01:06:26):
I threw off your intro by stealing your line. You
did took me. He took my line, so I can't
say it no more. Hey, No, it's great to have
you on, man. I appreciate you guys have to be
having me on. I mean, it was a great first week.
I mean it's not overcaut but you know, the first
week of football has been good. Rod, let's just get started.

(01:06:48):
We were just talking about a Robin I Lamar Jackson.
I'm one that's been skeptical. I think both Robin and
I have been skeptical. That he's going to be able
to make it as you know, a flight quarterback in
the NFL. Obviously, he looked all of that yesterday. Um
are you what did you see? And how convinced are

(01:07:09):
you that? Obviously he's not doing that every game, but
how convinced are you you know that he's going to
be able to have a great season for the Ravens
and play his style. Well, I think you know, when
we talked last week, my thing was, you know, ken
Lamar Jackson become that passing quarterback in the pocket. Um,

(01:07:29):
you know, he did a tremendous job. I mean they
didn't touch him. I mean he cleaned. I don't even
think he even started sweating in my arm And I
don't even know how you do that because it was
like ninety five degrees with ativity. So my man was
playing cool football. The defense was swarming, you know. You know,
unfortunately for Brian Flores, you know, this guy didn't play well.

(01:07:51):
Um uh, you know, is that going to be the
outcome of every game that the Baltimore Raves played? Probably not.
But if they can protect him and he can throw
the ball inside the pocket, we know he's dynamic when
he runs the football and this young defense comes into
its own. This can be a dangerous football team. Hey Rod,
what what about the Steelers? I mean what a bottom mean?

(01:08:16):
I mean you had to watch that game in absolute
horror yesterday. Um to see your former team, like just
get embarrassed. They were out. I mean, I don't even
know where to go to help me out. How bad
is it? And the other thing is a lot of

(01:08:37):
people pooh poohed having a bell or or AB and
it's addition by subtraction. It certainly didn't look like that
last night. Well, I'd say it's more so in the
passing game because you know, I know you two had
like six or seven catches for seven something eighty yards,
no touchdowns. The running game was awful. Um, you know,

(01:08:59):
I think the passing game is anything's gonna suffer, is
gonna be because Ab not being there, because they were
rolls of covers to AB and then Juju will get
that second to third dB and shoot. Last night, gil
Moore he matched Juju everywhere he went, and he was like,
what can you do? And it was hard to get
out of it. It was hard to get away from it.
So that's the only thing that scares me. And then

(01:09:21):
another thing that some of the play calling and listens,
and I love Randy Fechner, the offensive coordinator for the
Pittsburgh Steelers. He went to Purdue when I went to Purdue,
but he ran three tall sweeps in a row. I
ain't never seen that since freaking since since O J
was playing for USC and it was I was a
little perplexed by some of the play Calleague and then

(01:09:44):
the defense. You know, listen, I don't want to smash
the Steelers because it's only one game. Okay, he got
sixty more games. And I know what Mike Thomas is
gonna tell his guys, Listen, we need to be singly focused.
And my eyes on the big pictures. We lost the
first one, We got the second one coming up. But
you know, I want to see him Mark Russell on
the defense asides. You know, I just want to see him.
Pressures the quarterback. Tom Brady is fifty years old almost right,

(01:10:07):
and they let him sit in the pocket clean And
you know, I'm trying to I'm trying to bring pressure
and pressure and pressure pressure. I'm trying to make somebody
do something. Um, you just can't sit back all the time.
I think the defensive front is gonna do it for you. Um,
Like I said, it's only one game they got, they
got fifteen more. Hopefully they will improve in week two.

(01:10:28):
Hall of famer Rod Woodson enjoining the eye couple. Rod,
Let's stay in the AFC North. The Browns they got
him just as badly as the Steelers. What does it
tell you? There's a lot to talk about with them,
But what does it tell you when a guy and
I like OBJ, but when the guy wears a risk?
How did that happen? Come on that? Just your priorities

(01:10:51):
aren't where they need to be, m Am. I correct, Hey, Delaney,
Walkers in a best We all we all thought what
they we all thought they are what we thought they were, right,
you know, he said, I mean he said it best.
I mean it's we crown them because they made these
additions of talent. Talent doesn't win in the National Football League,

(01:11:11):
not only telling you know not I saw it, you know,
I think. And again, I'm gonna go back to what
I just said about the Steelers. It's only one game,
but the difference between the Steelers and the Browns is
that the Steelers are a winning organization. They know how
to win. They have a cultural winning So can they
get out of it? I think they can. Can the

(01:11:32):
Browns get out of what they just went through? I'm
not sure because they haven't done it in the past
and there's no proven true winners on that on that roster.
So who's going to get them out of it? And
they have a rookie coach in Kitchens And now we
talk about this all the time, Rod penalties. That's coaching,
isn't it. Eighteen penalties what not? All? It's not all.

(01:11:56):
It's not all coaching. You know, the pre snap, the
pre snap pl these are just mental you know, playing hard,
hitting right on the play, a little holding if you
if you're losing one on one battles. That's just technique
from individual players. You can't always blame the coaches because
the penalties now, the fighting and the kicking and the

(01:12:17):
temper tension that you show on the field, that is
from coaching, because now he's put up with it through
training camp. And that's the hardest thing. You Listen, when
you don't really train hard anymore, you don't go to
training camp union in training camp for fifteen sixteen days,
you really can't work hard. You can't really get your
ins and outs. It's going to take a little time
for some of these teams to be their best. And

(01:12:39):
the teams that can get it to the top fastes
like New England did in Kansas City did, they're gonna
be the best ones in the league and Rod. Sometimes
you see this in various sports where a guy that
was an assistant that everybody loved as an assistant, when
he becomes the head coach, you know, he just can't
put this foot down and get the assault already that

(01:13:00):
he needs to be the head coach. I don't know
if that's the case with Freddie Kitchens, but is that
something that you at least have to wonder about after
the way that Game one went. This is what I think.
I think a lot of times general managers and owners
look at a list, a checklist, and you know, they
have a list that they want their head coaches to be.

(01:13:22):
And if they're in that checklist, if they've been a
position coach X amount of years, if they've been a
you know, coordinator for a you know, a year, or
whatever it might be, they check that thinking they're gonna
be better suited to be the head coach now that's
not the case. A head coach is a person of influence,
and if the person, if your head coach, can't influence

(01:13:44):
twenty three men who do uncommon deeds together to be
a team, then your team is not gonna win. So
you know, that's why. That's one of the reasons I
don't really panick about the Pittsburgh Steelers because Mike Common
has proven that he is he can bring guys together,
they can rally the troops, so to speak, and to
win some games. That's the one thing I questioned about

(01:14:04):
the Cleveland Browns is I don't know what he's going
to be and I don't know what type of coach
he is yet. Rob one last thing for me on
you you aren't surprised that ab didn't last long after
he got its release with the UH with with the Raiders,
because football is about talent, and that guy was going
to be on somebody's roster. I'm not surprised. I'm a

(01:14:27):
little surprised that it's the New England Patriots just for
the fact I thought they were a standard center in
the National Football League. Um, you know, remember, but Randy
wasn't that disruptive in the locker room. Like ab was
a lot of people. A lot of people thought the

(01:14:49):
Steelers were crazy from getting rid of him because he's
such a tremendous talent. Now what makes it scary, though,
when you start thinking about it, these guys played. They
drilled the Pittsburgh Steelers with Gordon in the receiving corps
that they have. Just think about when they put Gordon
and the other receivers they have with a B on
the field, and if they be if he's not a

(01:15:10):
knucklehead and he just plays football and you got a
B Tom Brady and that passion attack in that running game,
that's a dangerous football team. So do you think it's
gonna work. You think a Bill be on his good
behavior and last season. If he's not, he's gonna be
there about three weeks and he's out. And last stop,

(01:15:30):
this is the last stop. If he doesn't make it there,
it's over for him. Yeah, you're right, But I agree
with if he if he behaves himself, I mean they're
gonna be I think they're gonna be the best team
in the league. Chris scot him wunning the Super Bowl,
the running I don't know. I don't know if he'll
be the best team. I'll tell you what. Kansas City
looked really really good. Their defense was more aggressive than

(01:15:51):
previous years. And I told you last week, I think
the Kansas City Chiefs is going to represent the AFC
in the Super Bowl. Be just only because the spect
Noel of the new Devon's coordinator is more aggressive than
the old Devon's coordinator. And I love I love the
way they always played, but I think the new mindset
is going to help that football team. Yeah. I picked
the Chiefs before the Abat move and now you change

(01:16:15):
your mind. You flip flop, Chris, flip flop. That's a
big move. I mean, that's a that's it is shocking move,
you know what I mean. It's the shocking move. But
I still like Kansas City. Yeah, they look great. You're right.
So all right, Rod Woods in the Hall of Famer.
Thanks all so much. All right, brothers, I'll talk to
you next week. Yeah, yeah, later. It's the highest radio

These two have been covering sports for nearly three decades. Apiece,
I will say this, let's put the big Jay journalists

(01:17:41):
to the test. Its sources say, that's right, it is,
sources say the I Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Now,
before we get started with this game, a bonus point
to either one love this game? Who can tell me
what the first line was to that shaggy song that
we just played, Something about taking something about taking somebody's girl. No,

(01:18:02):
I don't know what he said. That could be right.
I guess nobody knows what Shaggy says. He doesn't even
know what he's saying. Anyway, you know this game works.
It's the game where we put Chris and Robs one
hundred and forty seven years of combined journalism experience to
the test out who's got good sources and who doesn't.

(01:18:23):
I don't know who want Last week, I wasn't here
out there was a route, Chris. Yes, it was a route,
wasn't it the tires? All right, well it will take
it was a route. You know me, I'm the most
honest man here. I'll put my hand on the Bible
right now. All right, you're gonna get the first crack
at story number one, Rob Parker. My sources say that

(01:18:44):
former Broncos running back and CBD enthusiast Terrell Davis said
in a recent interview that he turned he turned the
roof of his merit of his house in Denverse sixty
thousand square feet into a marijuana farm. My source is good.
I'm gonna say that they are good. That's all they
do in the Maha City. Man, everybody ma hih, that's right.

(01:19:07):
I'm gonna say that is false. I'm gonna say it
was somebody else. You sit on a throne of lies,
am I right? It was somebody. I have no idea
someone might have done it. Just Rob is sneez sneaky.
I mean you TD he is? He a CDC Enthusiasm.
You know he made the show. Remember he was plugging it, right,

(01:19:29):
we had him on the show. Yeah, that's what I thought.
That made sense. Story number two Christmas start up nothing.
My sources say University of Minnesota football coach PJ. Flett
gave all of his players a Batman pez dispenser before
their season. Oprah, Chris, my source is good for what?
Just for? Just to give it to him. I'm gonna

(01:19:51):
say false. I think that was somebody else too. That
sounds so stupid. I'm gonna say it's true. Yeah, a Batman?
Why you know, what did you like? Don't a thing
about the pez is? I don't even. I don't even.
I never remember those as a kid. I never liked
the candy. I don't think I never did you. There
was much better candy out there. Yes, pez never did

(01:20:14):
it for me, much better? All right? Here we go
story number three, sources say the Akaba Fox Sports Radio.
My sources say that a Rod went viral during a
Sunday night baseball broadcast last week when he said, quote
you always want even leads versus odd leads end quote
Rob My source is good, that is true. What woul

(01:20:35):
did that mean? I think that's true too. You want
to be up by two, four, six versus no, you don't.
You want to be up by it, he said, because
it was solo home run doesn't tie the game, and
the Grand Slam doesn't beat you. That's what he said.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, because if
you're up by three, that's no good. You're up by three, Yes,

(01:20:57):
you want to be up by even now, so you'd
rather be up by toothing up by? Would you rather
be up by? But a Grand Slam would still speach
you if you make stupid a story. I'm trying to
he he's real good. Here we go. The our couple
sources say discrinical charges. Running back Melvin Gordon, who may

(01:21:17):
not even play this year, revealed that he paid forty
grand to change his jersey number from twenty eight to
twenty five before the season Christmas. Source is good. Uh,
that is false. I think that's false. That was the
least crazy story. Why would you do that when you

(01:21:39):
obviously didn't know he was gonna hold all right? Last
one really miss him either the time breaker winning IM
up tiebreakers. My sources say Fomer's packer dB Al Harris
went viral last week after he blew up with the
lake near his house with a drone attached the ticket dynamite.
Robin source is good. I say that that's false. True.

(01:22:04):
I've won eight weeks in a row. Stop. Oh my god.

he is Rob. We're coming to you live from the

fifteen percent more on your car insurance. Visit Geico dot
com for a free rate quote. We have talked about
Antonio Brown and the New England Patriots. We have talked
about the Pittsburgh Steelers. We have had great guests on

(01:22:47):
Rid Woods and James Jones and they're still robed. Plenty
of NFL talk to get to, and let's start with
the Cleveland Browns. Now before for their first game of
the season, they talked all manner of trash and it

(01:23:08):
wasn't even mainly Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Junior. I mean,
they did their shaff talking, but some of the biggest
talk came from elsewhere. Miles Garrett said their defensive line
is so good and going to harass the opposing quarterbacks
so much that it's going to be a quote unquote

(01:23:30):
blood bath. Demarrius Randall, the defensive back, he said, it's
going to be there, gonna be so good that teams
are going to think they were cheating. Maybe he meant
because they were going to be cheating to the two
of eighteen penalties, So that's what they had in Game one.

(01:23:52):
It was a blood bath. Both those guys were right,
but in a different way than they meant. Forty three
to thirteen the two to see Titans, who are nobody's
Super Bowl favorite rob I mean, they scored more than
thirty points one time last year, right, But the Browns
made Derek Henry looked like Earl Campbell and Marcus Mariolder was,

(01:24:14):
you know, okay yesterday and that's all it took to
pound the Cleveland Browns. And I like the attitude that
the Titans had after the game. Well, who was it?
Robbed that? That's that Delaney Walker had the great quote
he took from the late great Denny Green. Here's what

(01:24:36):
he said about the Cleveland Browns. The circle this game,
it would be, this is just another game. We worried
about it. I'm gonna tell you a game, man. They were,
well we thought they were. Y'all can crown them if
you want to crown him. Still got to play football.
They are what we thought they were, and we got
about the hook for us. I love that any green quip.

(01:25:01):
I was watching that game. I was watching that game live.
Well because you remember he was banging the podium after
the game. It was great. I loved it. Did you know?
But people he got flat for that. But anyway, Rob,
I've said, I mean, come on, this was this was
a look. I've picked the Browns to make the playoffs.
I am not yet jumping off of that train. But

(01:25:23):
yesterday was a mess, an absolute mess. Here was the reason,
Chris that I did not an ot picked them to
go to the playoffs. Last year, they beat one team
with a winning record, the Baltimore Ravens. They beat him
twelve to nine. Joe Flacco was so terrible that that's

(01:25:47):
when he lost his starting job as the starting quarterback.
So I wasn't barding then beating anybody. And you know
what they did, trade for a great talent in Odell
Beckham Junior. Sorry, go look at what the Giants have
done when he was there, Chris, they hadn't done anything.
You have an unproven rookie coach. Hello, Freddie Kitchens. Give

(01:26:11):
me Freddie bathroom. I don't even know when we're gonna
get from him yet. Well, look I said it earlier, Robs. Sometimes,
and you've seen it. I've seen it in basketball covering
the NBA for twenty five years. There are times when
a guy who's an assistant coach and everybody loves him.
You know, he's just the assistant and he can be

(01:26:31):
cool with everybody and you know, funny and all that.
But when you become that head coach, you have got
to be an authority figure and you've got to have
the players respect. They can't just like you, They have
to respect you. I'm not saying they don't respect Freddie Kitchens.
But what I'm saying is the verdict is out right,

(01:26:52):
we don't know yet. The jury is out. I guess,
you know, we have to wait and see if Freddie
Kitchens is a good head coach, if he has the
players respect, because as you said earlier with Roy Woodson
the eighteen penalties, you can look at the coach for
a lot of that. I'm serious. People I've always talked
to in the NFL, they say that's coaching when when

(01:27:14):
a team is undisciplined, Chris, because you could work on that.
If guys know that they can't do that kind of
stuff where they're gonna lose playing time or you know
what I mean, they're not gonna play, you're gonna eliminate that.
You're not gonna hurt this team with eighteen penalties in
the game. And I get some of the offsides and
preaching that. I get some of those, Okay, I do,

(01:27:36):
because you're trying to get an edge, right, yeah, and
you're trying to uh, you know, get it, get get
an advantage. So that happens sometime. But I'm sorry that
cannot be done right. Eighteen is crazy and Baker Mayfield.
He wasn't great. He threw three interceptions twenty five or
thirty eight two hundred and eighty five yards, one touchdown,

(01:27:56):
but three interceptions. He I'm not a resolving him of blame,
but he did not get protected at all. That offensive line.
It was makeshift, it was banged up, and he was
running for his life. He was sacked five times. But
he welcomes the criticism. Here's what Baker said, everybody's gonna

(01:28:16):
throw us in the trash. I think that's good. I
know what type of men we have in this locker room,
and quite frankly, I don't really give a damn what
happens on the outside. I know how we're going to react.
I know what we're gonna do, runna bounce back, and
we got a Monday night game coming up, so we
don't really care. Where'd you go? Well, I hope he's right,
because you know we you know, we always say it right.
We want to be right with our picks. That's what
we get them to make the playoffs. So I hope

(01:28:37):
he's right. But let's be honest, we don't know what
kind of men they have in that locker room. We
don't we don't, right, who's the proof and winner? There
nobody And that's the problem. That's why people and Chris,
we know on paper Cleveland made a lot of nice moves.
Just a better team. They have better players. But that
the idea that people had them going to the super

(01:28:58):
Bowl and going crazy about the Browns. I think that
and you know what, maybe it works in their favor.
Maybe they got so humbled and so grounded, Chris, that
it works in their benefit. It could, it could, or
it could send you on the deep end. If they
get a butt whooping against the Jets next up right
Monday night? Is that who they play? They lose, they

(01:29:20):
lose to the bad jetstard right, if they get it's
one thing if they lose, because I think the Jets,
I think they also probably ate a little bit of humble.
They were up sixteen nothing, so I think that'll be
a good game. But yeah, I mean before the season,
most people picked the Browns over the Jets. I know
you didn't, but most people did. If they get routed

(01:29:40):
by the Jets, they could be done because then they
got the Rams and the Ravens in look at the
schedule the Patriots. I mean, my goodness, they won't get
any relief till like Week seven with the Broncos. That's why,
that's why they better beat the Jets. That's why it
was like I wasn't feeling it. I was like, that's
schedule is tough for a team that hasn't done it yet.

(01:30:03):
And and you know what, maybe and and everybody kind
of pooh pooed the Titans. And then think about the
Titans and board they put it on them and for
them to go as you said, Chris, I think last
year right there, never did they score that once? Yep, yep.
And he had about this, how about ob j And

(01:30:25):
I'm not a guy that dislikes Odell Beckham. I like him,
but come on, here's the story. He wore a risk
to watch during the game? What and it was? The
story I guess is that he wore a risk watch
Richard mill or is it mill a mill a mill

(01:30:47):
you know what that watches? Rob? They know all the
t and that, you know, I don't know anything Richard
mill watch. I figured the multi millionaire on the show Christmas,
you know what I mean? I don't know about that.
But anyway, they said that it was worth one hundred
and eighty seven thousand dollars. Some people have estimated two

(01:31:08):
fifty three fifty. No, Richard Mill itself. I hope I'm
saying it right. They said it was worth one hundred
and eighty seven thousand plus he bought it. I guess
in the offseason. They do have athletes in other sports
who wear their watches. Raphael Nadal plays tennis in one.
Tennis is not a contact sport, thank you, And Bubba

(01:31:29):
Watson plays golf in another one. That makes sense, But
how we playing football golf with a watch on? Couldn't
you cut somebody with that watch? That's look, there is
absolutely no reason. But let me finish with Nat Nadal
and Bubba Watson. They are indorsed by Richard Mill, so

(01:31:50):
they're doing it as indorsers. Oh, PJ is not endorsed
by them. What he just wore it on his own
and apparently he was wearing it in aractice. Now that
does speak to Freddie Kitchen. Yes, right, If I'm at
practice and I see a dude with a risk watch on,

(01:32:11):
I'm sorry, take the watch off. It makes no sense
because the NFL rule is that you can't wear a
hard object. You know you can wear jewelry, but you
can't wear something with a hard surface. Obviously you get
that watch gets hit by helmet, it could crack and

(01:32:31):
endanger you, It could endanger an opponent. And my thing
is this, rob When you put on a wrist watch
to play a football game, that tells me your priorities
are not in the right place, because when you there's
only one reason you wear a watch. It's to look cute.

(01:32:54):
It's to look cool. It's to impress other people's social media.
It's to impress your boys who think the blind hair
and your dancing and all that is so cool. I mean, really,
that's who. That's who it's for. It has nothing, and
I get it. Dudes all the time. They have their
own little personal flavor. You wear the orange shoes, you

(01:33:16):
wear the black shoes, you wear the white shoes, you
wear your socks a little differently, your pants, you know,
maybe they're up above the knees. Yeah, yeah, whatever. You know,
you're doing your own little personal style, which fine with that, right,
but a risk watch, No, there's one reason, and you're
trying to impress people out there on social media or

(01:33:41):
your boys or whoever. And that means your number one
priority was not winning this football game. You were thinking
too much about impressing some viewers. Chriss it. It would
be like me coming to the show with Capris on
a pair of ogs. You would just look at me
and say, you're about the YouTube channel out about the
radio show. I mean, am I right round? Oh? I agree?

(01:34:05):
I just don't understand to play football. You know you
never wore watch to play football at any point in
your life, Chris, at any point, how what made you
put a watch on for a football game. I just
don't even know where the referees. Where are the coaches?
Nobody looked over and said, dude, either come out of

(01:34:27):
the game. If I'm a referee, I'm like, either to
take that off the lead. The rest didn't see it.
I'm like Ben looking at but it's hard for me
to believe one of the Browns coaches did not know
nobody saw the watch to watch. I would have thought
the rest would have told him about it. But I
think if Browns coaches aren't, maybe they were scared. Maybe

(01:34:50):
they're not gonna call him on the carpet. Maybe they
weren't sure that it's illegal. And do I make a
big stink out of something that I'm not sure about
and lose OBJ. I don't know, but whatever the case,
that's not a good sign. I just my only thing
is all the years I've been covering the nfls is
nineteen eighty seven, all the football games a watch? I

(01:35:13):
just don't where do you how do you put a watch?
What makes you put a watch on for a football game?
And one hundred and eighty seven thousand dollars watch. I
thought it was a stop because he was getting paid
from them and he was trying to push the envelope.
Now that you're telling me that there's nothing there and
he just did it to do it, that's even more ludicrous. Yeah,

(01:35:36):
And to your point, I mean, look, I don't care
if the watch was ten dollars. You don't need it.
You don't need to know what time it is in
a football game, so there's no excuse to wear it.
But the fact that you wore one that was so expensive,
you just turned impress. You know what it's like. It's
like when Nick Young Remember Nick Young played the game

(01:35:56):
for the Lakers in the jezs Sneakers. Yeah, remember that's
what it is. You're trying to press your ball those
are not basketball sneakers. You're lucky you didn't tear up
your feet like um Antonio Brown did in the in
the you are you are lucky, but you're You're That
just shows me you're not thinking the way you need

(01:36:20):
to be thinking to win football games or in Nick
Young's case, basketball games. So there's a limit. You know.
You can try to look cool, you can try to
look cute. We played sports. Yeah, I want to look nice.
Half some nice sneakers on my socks, right rich Man, Yeah, man,

(01:36:41):
But there's a limit. And a watch is beyond the panel.
A watch. Godly, I can't believe it. That said, I'm
still sticking with the Browns. I think they're gonna learn
from this with the Cleveland Rounds be able to live
up to all the hype they've created for themselves. Your

(01:37:49):
We're about to get to the cars, but updating you
on this Monday night opener. The Houston Texans up twenty
one seventeen over New Orleans, about two minutes two and
a half half minutes left to play in the third quarter.
The Sean Watson really the big star. Now. He's been
in and out of the medical tent, a little bit
banged up, but he has been a trooper. He's got

(01:38:11):
two touchdown passes and one touchdown run seen for twenty two,
one hundred and sixty yards. Lower back problem is what
they're so through it with a lower back. It looks
like he hurt himself on his first touchdown run, landed
awkwardly on his back, But that's a Trooper. He's playing
through it and playing well through it. And they have

(01:38:33):
the Saints on the ropes. But the Saints just scored
to pull within four. So we will keep you updated
on that, all right, rob let's get to the listeners.
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. What do you
think of these Cleveland Browns? Yeah, it'll be interesting because
it's funny. All those people were so a gung hole
about the Browns and now all of a sudden they

(01:38:54):
kind of like a game like that will make you,
we think yourself. Let's do much in Vegas, you're on
the odd couple Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mike? Hey,
what's going on? Fellas want? I wanted to correct Chris
really quick. It's a pronounced record, Melee. So that's the
watch you have one? No, I actually settle them out

(01:39:16):
here in Las Vegas. Really, yes, sir, yes man, you
should see you should say, Robin. I a couple who's
mentioning it on the air. Yeah, I'll spread my record, Melee.
I appreciate it, but if I do, y'all gotta pay
my fine for sent commission up front. That's right. I
don't blame you. I don't blame but no. On the

(01:39:38):
secondary topic though, about these Browns, man, I agree with
Delaney Walker. You know, um, I agree with you guys.
If they don't win this next Monday night game, unfortunately,
I think they're gonna put that big, big fat circle
up on that board, man. And how historic would that
be to have those type of players, out type of
athletes on that team and to not win one game

(01:39:59):
this season? Way you think the Browns could go oh
in sixteen? Wow, I can't. I can't buy that one.
They can't win one game for Rick meleeis because you
better be careful, Joe, don't say that. What all right?
Let me ask you what do you think about ob

(01:40:21):
J wearing that watch? You know, though, I'm gonna be
honest with you. It was Richard Miller's first watch design
was delayed because of malfunctions. I mean, it is one
of the most expensive watches out there that a lot
of UH car drivers, like NASCAR, drag racing, Formula one,
they were those watches because they are endorsed by them.

(01:40:44):
But contacts right right, that's my problem. Yeah, you can't
play to watch. No, no, no, no. It was just
like a rubber one. You know, they're all rubber bands
there because of Rolex. You know, they were a competitor
of Rolex for us, and well let's have the metal bands. Uh,
these new athletes want rubber bands. Don't give me obviously

(01:41:08):
the face even you know, the face can't be nourge. Hey, Mike,
thanks for the info too. We appreciate the car Melee.
We gotta Hey Russ in Orlando. You're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Russ? Hey, i's
it going, guys? Doing good happening? Yeah? Just when they
signed this clown, because that's what he is, a clown.

(01:41:29):
I was so mad. It was like, man, all right,
are you and we're talking about I'm a Cleveland fan alight?
But all right when they as soon as they gone,
would you get this retard for man, we don't need well,
hold on Washington language, that's not I don't want to
say that. Man a return Yeah, yeah, yeah, Number you

(01:41:50):
can't say that. All right, he's gone. What about Jack
and Florida? Jack, you're on the odd couple Fox Sports Radio?
How you doing what you got? Well? Number one, I'm
going to drop the R word. Yes, it's kind of
really kind of wow. All right, Um, First of all.
I gotta tell you, I love you guys. I'm from Cleveland.

(01:42:11):
I'm in Vero Beach, Florida now, but I'm originally I'm
a Cleveland draw all my life. And it's a home
of sports talk radio. Pete Franklin. If you two don't
know about your history. Franklin, he was at w FAM
when they first started all the first all sports station
in New York. Absolutely, and he's a genius and he
really got the whole sports talk genre going for all

(01:42:32):
you guys. Really, if there's a sports talk Hall of Fame,
he really should be in. Anyway, Yeah, I agree. Anyway, gentlemen,
both of you guys are great. A love and I'll
tell you what your takes in the Browns to Night
have been fantastic and spot on. But to be brief
and quick, I know you had a lot of callers.
Your your producer asked me to bring it down into
a sound bite. I could talk to you for hours,

(01:42:53):
and I would love it to sit down at a
bar and talk to you guys like this with a
bunch of other Browns fans and let you know, are
angst about all this? This is this is a joke.
This is undisciplined BB Now is it Freddie? Is it
Freddy's fault? This is a kicking? Are you kidding me?
And then the constant offside the record penalties. I mean,

(01:43:13):
we were considering that they were going to be the
first team in the history to have more penalty yards
than offensive. You that was an issue, right right? It
was a It was humiliating performance for a team with
all that hype. Now did they swallow their own hype?
Was Freddie a poor coach? I mean, seriously, their defensive coordinator, No,
you cannot say that he's not a disciplinarian. So somebo

(01:43:36):
was going on behind the scenes that we don't know.
I mean, do you guys know what the heck's going on?
We're waiting to find out. But I'll tell you what.
They better have taken this loss the right way because
we ran off their schedule. It's about to get the
Jets next week, and that's after that. It is a
bunch in that game. That game is in New York

(01:43:57):
and Jersey, Chris and the Jets. I'm off an embarrassing sixteen,
you know, giving up a sixteen point lead. So they're
fighting for the they're fighting for their season. We're gonna
squeeze one more in. How about a call in Orlando.
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's
up call? Hey guys, how are you tonight? Great? Great? Good?

(01:44:19):
Like you know, the only mention that I wanted to
make and then I'll hang up and listen is you know,
you got a Cleveland Browns team that has has done
nothing but lose for years and years and years, and
learning how to win does not come easy. And I
think that they're gonna have to learn how to win
as an organization that they've lost for so long that

(01:44:42):
I think that they need to change their mentality. Um,
just saying that they're gonna win and putting that roster
on the team doesn't mean that it's gonna happen. That
they're gonna have to win a few games. I don't
think they're gonna go oh in sixteen by I think
they're gonna do much better than that. But as an organization,
they just need to learn how to win. And I

(01:45:02):
think that's all that's going on. Well, look, but they
got a lot of new faces. It's not like they've
got all the guys there that if we're losing for
the last three decades. You know, John Dorsey was a
winner in Kansas City. You got a new coach, we'll
see if he can coach, and you got new players,
but none of them have really want at the NFL
level from the coach and the players, right, and so

(01:45:26):
we do after it's more than talent. Rod woods and said,
you don't win with talent in this league. What he
meant was that that's not all there is to it. No,
Tom Brady's not the most talented quarterback and the Patriots
are the most time. There you go, that's that's exhibit
A right there. There are guys better teams that are
better on paper. We talk about it all the time.

(01:45:47):
You know, the Chiefs were better than the Patriots. Did
they win? They didn't win, they lost. Yep, no doubt,
no doubt. All right, So Rod Parker's been sticking out
his chest for two and a half. I was five.
I was that the Brows weren't any good. I never
believe in the steel is. You can't lose a b

(01:46:10):
and Leavian Bill and not miss him. He's been bragging
all night, but guess what he's about to eat? Some
crow after route. Irvin shows his West trendy Ralph. Well,
let's serve up that crow. I think he wants it
with a diet coke. That's usually no, I have to
have a diet coke, no, no doubt about it. Well,

(01:46:32):
you know who else needed a diet coke? The Saints did.
They were down twenty one ten until Please takes a
gun snap looking throwing that balls. Cart takes somehow for
the touchdown. WWL and the Saints radio network with the
callus New Orleans made it twenty one seventeen. Now they
have the ball driving deep in Houston territory as the
third quarters about to run out Houston. The Texans, with

(01:46:54):
a twenty one at seventeen lead over New Orleans, headed
to the fourth quarter coming up about forty fifty minutes
from now ten twenty Eastern time. It's set Denver playing
at Oakland the nightcap of our opening night of Monday
Night Football. Five games going on right now. In Major
League Baseball, the Yankees, with three runs in the seventh inning,
take a four nothing lead on Boston. Headed to the

(01:47:17):
bottom of the seventh, Atlanta gets a three run bomb
from Josh Donaldson. They lead at Philadelphia seven one in
the bottom of the eighth inning, Pete Alonzo's belted two
home runs, including his major league leading forty seventh New
York Mets with a three one lead over Arizona. They're
in the seventh inning, Milwaukee leading in Miami for one.
They're in the sixth. Then Houston belted six home runs

(01:47:40):
in the first two winnings. They lead Oakland eleven nothing
in the bottom of the fourth. Now we're back to
the odd couple in ten seconds. But first a word
from Farmers. Farmers Insurance knows the difference between a car
hitting your bumper and a clown car hitting your bob
because at Farmers we've seen in covered it. We are

(01:48:02):
under written my Farmers Truck Fire Insurance Exchange cent affiliates
products unavailable in every state. And since we're serving up Crow,
I'll serve up a side of Tom Brady in his
three hundred and forty one yards and three touchdowns for
Rob Parker as we sent it back to him and
Chris Brussard. Nobody asked you for Tom Brady stats, but
I gave him to anyways, Thank you, Ralph. We appreciate
that a guess who that bro The Steelers didn't even

(01:48:22):
show up for the game, Tom, I could have thrown
for those yards. It's the I Couple coming to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy
to say fifteen percent of more on your car shots
with Geico. Go to Geico dot com or call eight
hundred nine four seven Auto. The only hard parties figuring
out which way is easier. And Rob, I wish I

(01:48:45):
didn't have to bring this up. No, I don't do
your thing, man, because you're gonna eat your word. You've
been a press cut is an elite quarterback. I'm not
saying these top five, but he's on his way to
be coming an elite quarterback. And he showed. I know

(01:49:07):
the New York Giants are happless, the New York Stinking
Giants are awful. Press now that their putrid, but Dak
Prescott still put on a show. Twenty five for thirty two,
four hundred and five yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, and

(01:49:28):
like Lamar Jackson, a perfect passer rating no pressure. Prescott
looked phenomenal. Rob. His passes were on point. He spread
the wealth. What was it, four different receivers. He threw
touchdowns passes too, he had touch he threw for distance,
he threw the short passes. He did it all. You

(01:49:52):
gotta admit it. He did it all. I've been telling you.
The guy is a winner. He was thirty two and
sixteen his first three years only the Tom Brady. And
he did that with Ezekiel Elliot missing six games. He
did that with des Bryant on his last legs for
two years, with Cole Beasley one of his main guys,

(01:50:14):
with Jason Witton old on his last legs, with Terrence
Williams in the rotation. Now you give him a nice
receiving corps, a legit number one, Amari Cooper, a Michael
Gallup who can be a number three because now you
got Randall Cobb in the slot, Oh my god. And

(01:50:34):
you gave him a new offensive coordinator, Kelly Moore, who's
making a difference with the play calling. He's been doing
all this. He's been winning too a good level. With
Jason Garrett and his pedestrian play calling and his mediocre
wide receiving corps. Now he's got an above average receiving corps.

(01:50:55):
He's got an above average play caller. And you saw
what happened. He's on his way. I saw the Giants
gave no pressure. He could have stood back. There was
the same the best offensive. It was the same thing
like Lamar, he got no pressure. He just stood up
there and could throw. Anybody can do that in the
NFL if you don't pressure to passer, I'm not buying

(01:51:18):
one game from Dak Presscott. You can't tell me. Fifty
five executives around the league just said that he's a
third tier quarterback despite all the numbers you just threw
out there. You're telling me they're evaluating him and telling
me he's a third tier quarterback just because they don't
do that. They don't do that Brady, and they were

(01:51:41):
right to pass on Tom Brady at that time. I
said at that time, No, he didn't do anything at college. College.
They were we didn't do anything at college the war wrong?
But did they I'm talking about off of Tom Brady's
college career. He wasn't good in college. Tom Brady had
a dead bod before he even had kids. He won

(01:52:03):
Super Bowls with a dad bod. I'm just saying, don't
cut no, Tom kN he can't do that. And Chris
Dak Prescott prisoner of the moment. No, I just went
over three years this guy has been a winner, right,
I get it. He doesn't throw it like Carson Wentz

(01:52:27):
game to Sean Watson. I get it. But he's got
the intangibles. And when it comes to playing quarterback, it's
more than just having a great arm. It's more than
just having great legs. It is about the intangibles. I
tell you time and time again, and you try to
poople it. But what made Joe Montana so great? Yeah

(01:52:49):
he had physical gifts, but the intangibles. What makes Tom
Brady so great? Yeah he has some physical gifts, but
the intangibles, That's what it is. And Russell Wilson, this
kid has the intangibles. And now he's got some weapons
on the outside, not just back behind him in the backfield.

(01:53:10):
And there I'm telling you he's on his way. Do
you remember saying, do you the biggest cowboy homer going
is Skip Bayless? Do you remember last year when Dak
went through that drop, that bad pass, just to forget
that when skipped through his jersey into the game that
I'm just telling I'm just telling you, do not before

(01:53:32):
you think that he's already turned the corner. I need
more than one game against a lousy rob New York
Giants team. That's what I'm saying. Good, Okay, last all
I'm saying, hold on last year when he got Amari Cooper,
they were seven in two. Two of those victories against
a good Philadelphia Eagles team, another victory against New Orleans.

(01:53:54):
I mean, you can't this is ninety what he throw
two seventy twenty seventy yards a game or something like
that with uh with Amari Cooper last year and end
of the season. Hey, I'm I'm all for you if
you if you really believe in your heart that he's
a top tier, elite quarterback. I'm not even saying I'm
not saying. All I'm saying is I'm not there yet.

(01:54:14):
He played very well, just like Lamar Jackson. I'm not
ready to crown him either because I'm not had more
of a track. No, I'm just saying no, but yes
he does. But I'm just saying I'm not gonna be
fooled by one game against a bad team now when
he does this as we go forward and move forward,
if he's putting up these kind of numbers, I'll be

(01:54:35):
the first to tip my cap. But I'm not doing
it after week Why I don't think you'll be the
I will. You'll be like the hundred and right. That's right, Rob.
He's been doing it for three years and he hadn't
been great. I'll admit that. But like I said, he's
gotten it, he's improved. He's finally getting some help. Jason

(01:54:59):
Garrett's all fence wasn't helping him. He didn't have receivers
on the outside who were helping him. Now he's got those,
and now he's intangibles mean even more. I'm telling you
he's on his way. That's all I'm saying. He's never
gonna be Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes, but I think
he'll be a winner. And I think you saw that

(01:55:21):
the other night last night. All Right, all right, well
you handled it well. I'm not hey, I'm not I'm
not gonna pooh pooh numbers. Okay, played very well. I'll
always give your credit if you play well. But I'm
not in yet. I'm just not in on it. And
NFL franchise is on the verge of a full blown mutiny.
You'll never be in. Tom Brady has six Super Bowls

(01:55:45):
and you're not in well, because he's never be in
you You it'll be luck, it'll be voodoo. You'll come
up with something. Voodoos probably a good one, no doubt
about it. All Right, an NFL franchise is on the
verge of a full blown mutiny. We'll tell you all
about it. Next. It's The Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio,

(01:56:52):
see store for details. All right, Rob, We talked earlier
about how Lamart Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Absolutely she
lacked the Miami Dolphins fifty nine to ten. Lamar Jackson
looked like Joe Montana and Michael Vick wrapped up in

(01:57:13):
the one perfect passer, rating five touchdowns, zero picks, And
after the game there was a report that immediately after
the game, several Dolphins players contacted their agents and said,
get me out of here. I want to be traded.
They see they feel like, you know, there's been talked

(01:57:36):
that the Dolphins are taking after that trade they made.
They traded Laramie Tunsel and got a bunch of draft
picks in return for some of their trades, and people,
the players and people around the league think they're tanking
and a lot of the veterans want out. And I
gotta be honest, Rob, I can't blame players if they

(01:57:59):
feel like clearly now, when Brian Flordes, the head coach,
says no, we're not taking, I believe he's putting together
a game playing to try to win. I believe he's
calling plays or you know his play callers calling plays
to try to win. But their front office has put
them in position, has put together personnel where they're not

(01:58:23):
going to win, right right, That's the thing. And if
you're a player on that team and and you, on
the one hand, you can look at the players say well,
this is your chance to play well, but they feel
like the organization doesn't even want to win, right when
you're not giving the reinforcements and you're not giving the
the roster. And then Christy to add to that, Brian

(01:58:46):
Flores thought he was being cute with the whole jay
Z thing. You don't know how many players you lost
during that as well as possible. I'm not saying we
don't know. Yeah, maybe Kenny Stills, I don't know, but
maybe he was popular in that locker. Can I tell
you there was one situation that happened in Detroit where
Doug Collins. Remember Doug Collins is there and they had

(01:59:09):
a decent team and this is when Alan Houston went
to play for the Knicks. You remember last that as
a free agent as a free agent, and he was
very popular on that team with a lot of people,
and Doug Collins basically, you know, to the team ripped
Alan Houston whatever, and it didn't sit well like he thought.
It was like screw that guy, he don't want to

(01:59:30):
be here or whatever. A lot of guys like, no,
that's a guy and he did what's better best for
his family, you know what I mean, right, and it
didn't go Old Collins lost that team exactly, Yes he did. Yeah, yeah, No,
that's a great that's a great point because maybe you know,
even though Kenney Steals was the only player kneeling, maybe
there were a lot of other people, that's players that

(01:59:52):
supported him even though they didn't write the invite. And
they don't have to do it. You know, it doesn't
mean that you're not with somebody, even if you don't
take action, Chris, I do want to make We got
a special announcement for Wednesday, which is you hear Skip
Bayless all the time our colleague at FS one talk
about his wife Ernestine. Right, she will be on our

(02:00:15):
show on Wednesday. Yes, she has. She has a new
book that's coming out. I think, rob Gi they dropped
today or is it dropping tomorrow? Drops tomorrow? And I'm
getting the title. Her book is called So I want
everybody to know that they should be watching listen to

(02:00:36):
the show. You know it's called it's called Balls. How
to keep your relationship alive when you live with a
sports obsessed guy. Wow. So that's it. Yeah, that's great
and I've actually I have the book. I started reading it.
Chris is very good. So Ernestine Skip, Bayless's wife will

(02:00:57):
be on the Eye Couple on Wednesday. That's seventh already Eastern,
four thirty Pacific. I'm looking forward. Yeah, it'll be great.
She's wonderful. Yeah you know her. I don't. I've never
met her. Oh you never met her? Oh my god.
I've had dinner with Ernestine to Skip so many times.
But definitely, that's great. That's great. But anyway, back to
the Dolphins, I think rob a lot of these players.

(02:01:21):
You're putting the players in danger. It's one thing to
taking basketball or even baseball, but when you're taking football
you can get hurts. You're right. If you put an
offensive line in front of me that you know can't
protect me, I'm not gonna be happy. You do it
on purpose? Right, you give me receivers that I know

(02:01:46):
can't catch. Your running backs that I can't know, can't
you know, get out of the backfield. I'm going to
be upset. You're putting my head on a chopping block. Yes,
and that's what if I'm a defensive back and I
know every game i'm gonna have running backs coming full
speed at me because the holes are so big. I mean,

(02:02:07):
you're playing with my health. And that's why I think
these guys are justified if they really feel like the
team is taking no I get it. I think they
got a problem down in Miami and it's gonna be
interesting to see how it plays out. Yeah, no doubt.
All right, it's the Eye Couple, Christ and Rob about
