s R. You're listening to the Best of The Odd
Couple with Chris Brush and Rod Harker. Let's do it
all right. Look, yesterday, the big story that broke was
that the New England Patriots had been caught up in
what maybe another cheating scandal. We didn't know, you know
(00:45):
a ton yesterday they actually released their second statement of
the day towards the end of our show. Really, like
the last five minutes of the show, it was telling
that they had to come back with a second one,
Wasn't it right? And obviously we've had more time to
think about it, We've had more time to see reports
that have come out, and Rob, here's my reaction to
(01:08):
the whole thing right now, then I want to get yours,
of course, as as people that listen to the show
yesterday heard. My first reaction was no way, no way
caught sheeting twice, there's no way you would do this again,
especially for the freaking Beingals. So I gave them the
(01:32):
benefit of the doubt, even though with their track record
they really don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. But
I believe their story that they clearly told every NFL reporter,
because we heard it from NFL Network ESPN local reporters,
that this was for their do Your Job feature series
(01:52):
that goes on their website, which is a series that
they do, and that it was just you know, they
were filming this scout. They told the Bengals that are
the Browns, that they needed to get into their facility
for credentials to do this, but they didn't tell the
Bengals and the NFL. That's on and so forth. And then,
of course, during our show, as I said, towards the end,
(02:14):
the Patriots come out with a statement that in yes, indeed,
they videotape the sidelines of the Cincinnati Bengals, who they
happened to play next week. I just so happened that uns.
That's part of the thing, Rob, is that we know
that this organization pays more attention to detail than any
(02:38):
in the league, if not any in sports right, everything
is buttoned up, and you don't see any of their
players step out of the the line. They all quote unquote
do their job. And so we're supposed to believe that
the Patriots, who got all their eyes and cross all theirs,
(03:01):
didn't just forgot just they were absent minded. It never
crossed their mind to let the Bengals know we're gonna
be at the game videotaping this scout. It never crossed
their mind to let the NFL know we're gonna be
at the game videotaping this scout for this feature. And
(03:22):
you hire the crew, an independent crew of videographers. But
it never crossed your mind to tell them, hey, look,
in case you haven't heard, in case you've been living
under a rock. We had this situation called Spygate a
few years ago. Its dollars, the league is watching us.
(03:43):
Make sure you only videotape the scout. Don't look towards
the field, don't get on the sidelines, just the scout.
I'm sorry, and you and everybody on here knows. I'm
not a Patriots bascher. I'm not a Patriots hater. I've
I've said Belichick and Brady are the goats. But I cannot.
(04:04):
I mean, I'm sorry, it just stretches the it's asking
you to believe too much, to think that they made
that they had nothing to do with this, that this
is all innocent, just one innocent mistake. Now we'll see.
I want a thorough investigation, Rob Parker. I want a
(04:26):
thorough investigation from the NFL. And I'm telling you, if
it comes out that Bill Belichick and the Patriots were
cheating once again, because they've been busted already with Spygate,
let everybody acts like that didn't happen. Belichick was fine
the largest fine for any coach in the history in
(04:48):
the National Football League, five hundred thousand, and they lost
draft picks Chris so they and remember that they were
found guilty in that case. And here's the other thing, Rob,
there report there were reports that came out that said
if the organization's rule was, if you get caught, tell
(05:11):
him it's for one of our shows. Right, ye, if
you get caught, tell him it's for one of our shows.
You got a plan in place just in case you
get caught. And Diana Russini from ESPN, who was one
of the first reporters on this story, she tweeted out
yesterday that the videographer who was filming first of all
(05:35):
the scout and then film the Bengal sideline during the
game Sunday that when Bengal security interviewed him that he
asked them, look, just let me destroy the footage and
all will be forgotten. What I'm robbed. It's just too
(05:56):
much at even a Patriots fan. And again, may maybe
it's innocent. I'm not. I don't know for a fact.
I'm just looking at the evidence. I'm not trying to
condemn the Patriots, but I'm just looking at the evidence
and say, oh my goodness, what is going on? And
(06:17):
let's not forget about this given their history, Chris, it's
hard to act like this is just so random and right.
You can't. You can't in baseball. Obviously, the Astros they
may even be guilty of something worse, or at least
(06:37):
on this level, it looks like maybe even worse worse.
I think it's worse. They've set up a camera and
they're banging garbage cans of blowing whistles. It's worse, and
that's organizational. Everybody had to be in on that. Yeah,
but you hear of other team the Red Sox got caught.
Do other reporters that cover baseball think this may be
(06:58):
something that goes on all over the league In football though,
the NFL? Who if we who have we heard about
doing this other than the Patriots? Nobody, Chris Broussard. And
that's the greatest point for me to jump in. This
is about the Patriots how many times and people go, well,
(07:19):
why would they need to cheat to beat the Bengals?
They're one in eleven. Spygate came off of them spying
on the Jets, who were four and eleven at the time.
It's because they think they're smarter than everybody, Chris. They're arrogant.
They can get away with it. They cheat because they can.
(07:40):
It ain't because they totally need to. Why else you've
been caught stop it? Why would you continue doing this?
It's like like you said, arrogance. It is insecurity, Like
you said, you can you do it because you can't?
Because you can't? Uh, you do you have a problem
(08:02):
with authority? Are you're flouting You enjoy flouting the rules
getting away with something? You know? Is it the thrill
of the chase? So to speak? I mean why, I
don't know and I'll say this, I don't know how
big of an advantage you're getting because you get the
you got game film on every team in the league
(08:26):
dating back years. But your your advanced scouts, they are
picking up tendencies on the sidelines just with their eyes
and writing down notes. You're not gaining that much. I'm
not gonna say you don't gain anything. But here's the thing,
right because because they have to beginning something otherwise it
wouldn't be against the rules, right right. And also, when
(08:49):
you're dealing with world class athletes and we are, the
difference between winning it all and not even making the
play offs is miniscule. I mean relatively speaking. Look at
track and field, for instance, the difference between a gold
medal in the hundred meter dash is like and not
(09:14):
even medalling is like two tenths of a second. I mean,
we are talking about very small differences between the greats
and just the also rans. So even if they just
get a small advantage, and they've won Super Bowls by
the skin of their teeth. And here's the other one, Chris,
(09:37):
let's not forget the division is not wrapped up. The
Buffalo Bills didn't go and hide there are only one
game out, and worse, the Patriots only lead the Chiefs
by one game for the best over right to be
able to have home field right for number two is
home for home field. Yeah, it's a big spot. The
(09:58):
one game you think it's it's also maybe And Nick Right,
I was on First Things First with him today. He
brought up a good point. He said, this may not
be about this game. This maybe about years down the line.
They've got film going back years, decades that they'll look
at for tendencies. Zach Taylor, rookie coach. Right, you're looking
(10:20):
for tendencies. You know, this may be something they use
next year or four years from now. But it's rob
Here's the thing. If they find out that this is
just something going on from Belichick on down, and he
was involved, and he knew what was going on and
all the if I'm throwing that out, if I think
(10:43):
he should be suspended for a season, I got better
for you. At least since this is his second he
should be suspended indefinitely until they see where this guy's
head is. To a thorough investigation, talk to ex employees
to find out how deep rooted this is. The NFL
should go as far as possible, and to dig into
(11:05):
Bill Belichick and what he's done. Talk to as many
people Chris as possible, because you can't have cheating in
a professional in any sport where everybody else has to
play by one set of rules and you're cheating. I'm serious.
And if I were, and I don't disagree with that,
and I and if I were a Pro Football Hall
(11:26):
of Fame voter when the time come, I would have
a hard time. If he's found guilty, Chris, we're assuming
right that he found guilty, he's involved in this, then
I'd have a hard time voting for him, especially for
the Hall of Fame the first ballot. I don't know
how in the world you could look at it because
it wouldn't be one incident, it would be two huge incidents.
(11:47):
Do you vote for alex Roy Rigez or will you
right now? I have to look at the timeline because
I'm still fuzzy about it, like when he tested because
if you tested positive once they broke the rules in baseball,
I do not vote for you. But what so I
don't know if you ever said when it was elite,
(12:07):
when it wasn't illegal, Yes, like I voted for bonds
and I voted for Sosa and Clemens, but many many
Ramirez and uh Um, who's the other guy? Just forgot
Raphael Palmero Chris both got busted after they put in
the new rules banning h and the jew But they
(12:29):
just so saing. Those guys knew when they were doing
it that it was wrong. No, but they but they
didn't even know whether it was still no. But then
to me, there's a big difference. They weren't testing for it.
So all right, I don't know if I keep out
of the hall. I mean what he's done, he's two
cheating scandals, I say three the flight gates. I mean,
(12:50):
if this, if this latest thing is legit, so we'll see.
I'm not I don't know for a fact. I'm just
saying the evidence is polo. I would, colleague, you're asking
a lot for us not to believe this. Our colleague,
Shannon Sharp on Undisputed, said that Bill Belichick should be fired.
If he's found guilty of this, he should be fired
right from the plague. I assume he meant band from
(13:13):
the league, right band. I'm sorry, right band from the
league is stronger. Ban from your right. I like yours.
Indefinite suspension. That could be a year until you find out, right,
until you find out how deep seated this is? Right,
I mean, this is again and we're you know, we're
bringing up you know, whether it's arroganst, whether it's insecurity whatever.
Why you're you're, most people's opinion, the best coach ever.
(13:37):
Why are you doing this? You know so? I think
you know you do have to find out what's going
on in his head? All right, you're turning away In
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Do the Patriots
deserve the benefit of the doubt in this latest spy gate,
scout gate, whatever you want to call it, incident? And
(13:59):
if not, what should their punishment be if they're guilty?
If I'm throwing that out there for all you Patriots fans.
If if they're guilty, what should the punishment be? We'll

(15:02):
It is a mess and last night was just another example. Now,
the Philadelphia Eagles outlasted. That's the word I'm gonna lose.
I'm not using beat, I'm not using bested. I'm using outlasted,
hung on edged. They were down on their chinny chin chins.
(15:28):
That's the problem. Rod Parker, the Philadelphia Eagles with according
to You and Shannon Sharp, a generational quarterback. The Philadelphia
Eagles still in the hunt for the inns FC East
title and a playoff spot. The Philadelphia Eagles coming off
(15:52):
of three straight losses, including a humbling wake up call
to the happling Miami Dolphins. Just the week before the
Philadelphia seventy six ers or Eagles facing a thirty eight
year old quarterback who hasn't played since Week two, who
(16:15):
was eight and twenty five in the last three years
as a starter. The Philadelphia Eagles, who were facing a
two and eleven New York Giants team one in six
on the road. The Philadelphia Eagles, playing at home, needed
a last minute drive and over time to beat the weak,
(16:38):
horrible putred New York Giants. And you're gonna brag about that.
One of them always told you pressed By that I
wasn't brush because it was a miserable night. They fell
into a big hole. They could have lost. They could
have lost to the Giants forbid. They haven't seen the
(17:00):
weather and back and they shut the Giants out in
the second half, and they won the game that they
needed to win. And now the time for the division.
It doesn't matter, Chris is about winning. It's about wins
and losses. I keep telling you that. And they won
winch in a lifetime. When when it's time, brain because
(17:21):
they cheaved when snow, don't go there. When Tom Brady wins,
he's got to throw three touchdowns three hundred yards or
you give him no credit. But you're gonna claim that weak,
pathetic victory last night. Yeah, I get it. I've covered
in NFL or pro sports long enough to know that
(17:43):
when a win is a win. But this team is
not playing good Chris, they win a division? No, just
they will. I'm more convinced than ever that the Dallas Cowboys,
as challenged as they are. I'm not saying there's some
great teams, but they're gonna win the NFC East. Book.
(18:03):
I want to I want to bet something on that.
Me and you. Here we go. They buff got the
same record. What do you want to bet on that? Nothing?
I knew it. I knew you're gonna say that you
need to bet everything. I'm not addicted to betting like
you am. I addicted. I mean, we have disagree with somebody.
The first thought in my mind is not let's bet,
and the second thought is not chicken wings. All right,
(18:27):
I'm just telling you what it should be. The Dabbless
Cowboys are better than the Philadelphia Eagles. They're more talented,
and they got a better quarterback, and they got a
better team, and they're going to win the NFC East.
This will beat This will be another could beat the
Cowboys and lose one of their other games. They're hapless.
(18:48):
Chris Applets, I tell you this is how your your
NFL this year was so off and so bad. And
I'm the one that picked the Chard just to make
the super Bowl. You picked the charge to make the playoffs?
Did you you make you pick Cleveland to make the playoffs?
You pick the Rams not to make the playoffs. If
(19:08):
in that Rams are gonna make the playoffs, they're not
in it right now, so stop it. Though you can't
criticize on that. I and this Chargers are horrible. I
give you so many picks you got wrong. I bet
you when we redo the NFL did it a week
We did it like three weeks ago, and I had
more right. You know you did not? No, he didn't
not the season predict. You told me Dak Prescott was
(19:30):
going to be it was on his way to elite.
You still feel that way, Yeah, he ain't elite the
way he's played stopping I haven't given him some generation.
You told me you like you have Carson witch wits
in the light that you lost in a lifetime. Are
you serious? You also lost on the past Patrick Mahomes
gonna go fifty touchdown, He's gonna fifty times. Was I right,
(19:50):
Rob or not? Got hurt? I told you you get
back to the topic because you can't defend the Eagles.
The Eagles and trying to go elsewhere. All they gotta
do is when the division. That's all they gotta do.
And you know what, right here, right now, they lead
the NFC least, sorry Chris, is about winning the division.
That's all they have to do is get in and
(20:11):
then you can get high. They don't leave. It's a
tiebreaker right now. No, but they played Dallas again. All
they gotta do is beat Dallas in Philadelphia. And who's
got the tiebreaker right now? But all I got is Dallas.
I'm telling you who I said, Dallas. You know you didn't.
You said the Eagles lead the division. They don't. It's tied.
(20:32):
You just fudging the facts. It's not even tied right now.
It is the tiebreaker. They beat them, and say, but
they have the same, better divisional record, the same right now,
the facts as always to fit a narrative. No, I'm
not fudging anything. I don't even like Farge. I like
vanilla cookies. Come then, you follow it up with corny jokes.
(20:57):
My gosh, Alex, you don't get me any love, A
pop up shot, something funny, He'll give you love, a
I'm trying here man jokes, the rough you're supposed to
what you're supposed to be like, Yeah, X, ones aren't
any good. He's I need to go. I'm going back
to Blue, you know, that's what I need to go
back to Blue, Joe, defend your Eagles. All you can
(21:20):
give me. They won, That's what they had to do.
That the last thing they could do is lose to
the Giants. And they played the Giants again. Yeah, some
reason if they went down seventeen to three and couldn't
move the ball in and they came back, but they
pitched the shutout in the second half and they got
the win. That's what it's about, Chris. What don't you understand?
(21:43):
They should have lost. They were down seventeen to three,
going nowhere fast. They pitched the defensive shutout and they
got the touchdowns that they needed at the end of
the game were two minutes to go. It was the biggest,
big win, the biggest win of the year by the Eagles.
God that says a lot that says, that tells you
how bad the season has been. Your biggest win of
(22:04):
the year was at home against the New York Giants,
who are two in the eleven. Case closed, case closed.
I want consistency from you, Rod Parker. You cannot sit
up here and kill the New England Patriots and Tom
Brady for a victory that's ugly. But yet you praised
the Philadelphia Eagles. You praised the Green Bay Packers for
(22:28):
ugly w's I want consistency. I don't mind you giving
the Eagles and the Packers credit, but you gotta do
the same thing with the Patriots in the same circumstances.
That's all I'm asking today. Win last week the Patriots
by the Patriots in the midst of what may be
another cheating scandal. I'm coming correct, I'm coming with truth.
(22:51):
I don't just stick to some story to follow my narrative.
You have a never right is right? Wrong is wrong?
Is that what it is? Yeah? The Boys the Eagles
were wrong. The Eagles them is wrong. Another look bad
last night. Another another one of your picks will be wrong.
(23:11):
You picked the Cowboys, I picked the Eagles. That'll be
another one. You were wrong on When you go and
look through the NFL picks that we made, you're gonna
be wrong. I'm probably about sixty percent of your picks.
That's how bad they are. Right now, get on the mike,
Rob g who we did it about three weeks ago?
Who had the most preseason picks? Rob? No? Rob, Chris? No,
(23:35):
not nothing. What you're talking about? Rog? We went through it. No,
we did not, But you are right. I'm gonna keep
it real. You've been beating me in the pigs. Can't
pick off gang my big margin? Thanks? Yeah, no you have.
Because I'm about truth, Rob. I'm not about some fantasy.
I'm narrative. I'm about truth. I'm about give you Craddy.
(23:56):
You are beating me in the pigs, getting pick off.
I got the Super Bowl hangover because I demolished you
last year. I got the old one on the show
we're talking about got cocky. I'll give you that. You're
talking about team the preseason play it picks. Mine have
been better Rob, yours thus far. When you when you
(24:17):
go back to that list, you're gonna see that Chris
is getting walloped just like kids in the pick skin picks.
We did it right now, you're making junk. I know,
I'm not. You were regular listeners. No, no, they don't
pick the Chargers to reach the super You pick the Chargers,
you picked Cleveland, you picked. Uh, who's the other team
(24:37):
you picked? I was wrong about some Pitsburg. Make it
you pick is actually in right now? You picked the
Cowboys to the super Bowl. You're picked. They're not even
gonna make the playoffs. You're super Bowl picked. No, that's
not it, Chris. They're gonna make the super Bowl? Yes
or no? Probably not no, not probably? Yes or no? Chargers.
(24:57):
I'm asking you about the out Boys, yes or no
when they make the playoffs. That was your pick, like
it right now, But they were my picks. I mean
with your pick, are your charges gonna robling? Are they charges?
Is gonna make the super Bowl? They're ut of the
playoff race already. They can't make enough send I'm asking
you about the about the color doing some Laurel and
(25:18):
Hardy routine with you, you man, do you mean Abbing
and Costello. I don't know. I didn't base both of them. Yeah,
it wasn't Laurel and Hardy. Some comedians too, Yeah, but
they were silent. They didn't talk, did they Abbing and Costello.
That was on Sunday Channel. We were little kids. Well
when I was a little you were like, it's covering
(25:40):
the giants for you. Weren't you a kid? And you
that was the sad thing. You were a kidier than you.
You were even trying to be a comedian. And I'm
funnier than you. You were a kid. I got you laughing.
I was covering the giants. I wasn't even in college
or but not yet high school. You were applying to college.
(26:03):
I've mentioned that. Well, all right, hey seven seven and
nine ninety nine or Fox eight seven seven nine nine
six sixty three sixty nine. Do the Eagles deserve any
credit for beating the lowly giants last night? We'll continue
the conversation with you next. You turned the way in
with Chris and Rob, a couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
(26:25):
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeart Radio app. Search
f SR to listen live. All right, Rob, let's talk
a little bit of baseball hot Stole. Yes, everybody's down
in San Diego for the Winner meetings. Chris, we're seeing
money thrown around. A lot of big money once again
this offseason, and not like last year. You remember where
(26:48):
people waited till the spring training started, right right, right right?
So what you love? I love Strasburg getting his money.
I've been, you know, I've been. I've lightd his pitching
since he came into the league. And obviously he struggled
with health. But that's really the only problem I've had
with him is can he stay healthy? And obviously he
(27:11):
was I mean phenomenal first picture, right to go five
and old. In the postseason, he was the lights out.
Chris won all the big games for the Nationals. They
said that they couldn't sign both guys because Anthony Rendon
is also a free agent, so they kept their guy, right,
they think they went as good as Rendon is, and
(27:31):
he is great. They went with to me, they went
with the right guy at Strasburg. You know baseballs about Chris,
right it is and and I look and Garrett Cole.
Strasburg got seven years, two hundred and forty five million,
the most ever for a pitcher. They're talking about Garrett
Cole's gonna top three hundred million. So I don't think
(27:53):
he's that much better than Strasburg. And I gotta be honest,
I don't know if he's better than Strasburg. I'm gonna
tell you why he'll get more though. Here's here's the reason.
He's twenty two months, so almost two years younger, right,
and he doesn't have a medical history like Strasburg. He
hasn't had any injuries knock on wood. So it sounds crazy, right,
(28:16):
But Chris, when you talk about two years younger, and
he hasn't been to the DL banged up and as
much as like Strasburg has been. And so I think
that's the reason why he's going to command more, even
though Strasburger was lights out. Yeah, that makes sense, No,
it does because, like you said, he's younger. I actually
think Strasburg may be getting stronger that you know, he
(28:40):
could be entering a part of his career where he
you know, he may not have health issues. Certainly he
might be over them. He might be right. It happened
thing with Garrett Cole, because he's been great. He was
great last year, great last two years. Really, I've just
seen a lot rob like Madison, Bumgardner, Tim Lindskam, Johan Santana,
(29:01):
We've seen a lot of guys, And you could say
the same thing about Strasburger View And I think he's
got a little longest track record. But we've seen a
lot of guys, even at twenty seven years old, twenty
eight who just fell off and it's Garrett Cole. What
if they give me three hundred million? What's the talk?
How many years? Eight? So it's eight years, eight years,
(29:22):
three hundred million, And one of the teams that's involved
is the Yankees. We'll have money. He's won him hard.
I think the Yankees might get him. But I'm saying
five years, is he gonna be what he is right now?
I know that's a big question. I think for a
lot of teams, if you can win a World Series
or two Chris, you know what I mean, and the
(29:43):
guy performed for you, it's worth it. Uh. You don't
expect him to be able to be that good for
the entire eight years. It just it's just not just.
But if you can get really right, if you can
get four or five really good years out of him,
I think most teams would be happy with that. I've
I think the Yankees are get him. I think they're
determined usually when they want somebody to do get they can.
(30:06):
We know they can pay him more. Good. Yeah, and
then it'd be Look, would I want to give him
three hundred million, I'd be hesitant. Eight years, I'd be hesitant.
But if if the Yankees do get him, it's obviously
a great get for them. We know they have to
