It's The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker! Chris and Rob debate the NCAA adding a year of eligibility for college athletes who are missing out on their seasons and explain why NBA owners need to step up and pay employees who will be out of work due to coronavirus instead of the players doing it. The guys also discuss the last potential remaining sports story in March, NFL free agency, and wonder if it will be pushed back like other sports. again in this strange, strange situation that all of us

(01:08):
as Americans, are dealing with, and sports is dealing with
it just as much as everybody else, which is unusual
because usually sports is always there as a distraction, as
a ball in Gilead, if you will, but no longer so.
But we are here, and we will have plenty to

(01:28):
talk about regarding the nc DOUBLEA, the NBA, the NFL,
and so stick with us for the next three hours.
You won't regret it. Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app or
Serious XM channel eighty three. However you may be listening,
and we will bring some enjoyment to your evening or

(01:50):
your afternoon wherever you may be listening. We'll be joined
at the bottom of the hour in about twenty seven
minutes by e from Salon, former NFL player and also
one of our colleagues here at Fox Sports Radio, So
stay tuned for that. Let me welcome in my partner,
mister Rod Parker. What's up, man, what's happening? Happy Friday?
What's going on? Yeah, it's Happy Friday to you. I'm good.

(02:12):
How was your day so far? Other than not being
able to get into a supermarket? Other than that you try, Well,
there's one right near my apartment. So I was just
that bacon on sale. I was just going in to
get bacon. Seriously, that was the only reason I was
going there. It probably took you four hours. I couldn't
get it and had the bacon the line. I refused

(02:35):
to stand in the line. There were twenty people deep
at every wow I mean, and yeah, just for I'm
not gonna bacon. I was gonna get two packs because
they were on sale. But I've refused to do it.
I got good news for you, though, we butcher box.
They'll be mailing you some well already next few weeks, right,
already got so he probably ate all the bacon. I
was gonna say, well, I was thinking of how fortunate

(02:59):
both of us are that we have butcher box. Yes,
and for people were freaking out. One of my buddies
works in the meat department back in Detroit, a supermarket,
and he sent me pictures earlier of the meat count
meat department, fully fully stripped, just empty shelf. After him,
I just looked at it, like that can't be suburban Detroit,

(03:19):
he said, it is. So I thought to myself, Man,
I'm glad my refrigerator, my freezer is loaded and h
it really is. Send you all types of meat and
it will you know, you're gonna do a commercial, right
but you'll talk, but you're good for the next for
a month. So so something like this, God forbid, or

(03:39):
you're in a situation. It's just it's the realities of it.
I just I really did, Chris. I thought, wow, my
refrigerators full with butcher box. That's the first thing I thought,
and walked out the store. All right, Well, let's welcome
in the I Couple crew, and then we will get
this fine radio program started on the ones and twos.

(04:02):
Of course, as always, it is the one and only
DJ Alex ty Shirt also known as Alex the Vegan.
It's a funky flashback Friday. Let's see what he does.
He'll be digging into crates and let's see if he
can really get loose today. On the producing side of
it is not robbed g Rob g is off Kevin

(04:23):
O'Connell making his This is your first time ever producing
a show, so if something goes wrong, you know we're
putting it all on on Kevin O'Connell. So all right,
I get to blame from that, of course, of course,
but no, welcome. You have done a great job so far.
As we had our pre show meeting, you came up

(04:44):
with some good topics. So good job. You're off to
a great start. You're off to a great star. Of course.
Isabel the intern is right there next to you. She's there.
That's all still coming in. Yes, yes, and who is
who is? On the update? We got Steve the Sagarins tonight.
This saga I saw him early. I should have Yes,
another one, Yes, steady. D He's not you know, doesn't

(05:07):
have the the the what's the word I'm looking for
the descriptiveness of Brian Finley. Um, But he is steady.
He is steady as they come, solid as a rock.
Our man Steve is saying, all right, Rob, let's get
into it and let's start with the NC Double A.
And they made a decision to extend the spring athletes,

(05:32):
the spring sports which have been canceled baseball, softball, things
like that. Those athletes, the seniors will get another year
of eligibility. And I applaud them for that. I think
that's the right move. I think it's a great move
those kids. I mean it. I don't even think it's
like it should be even controversial. Lord, I think it's

(05:55):
a no brainer. I mean, if a kid got hurt
and we had to be you know, red shirted or
didn't play for a year, he still get his fourth
year of eligibility. So I think that this is clearly
the right move. I don't think it's a difficult move
in the least bit. Now. The other thing they're looking at, though,
are the winter sports athletes, mainly men's and women's basketball,

(06:21):
because that's a winter sport, and they're trying to decide
whether or not they should give those seniors an extra
year of eligibility, and Rob I say emphatically, no, not
nothing against basketball players, of course, I have nothing against
them at all and the other winter sports athletes. My

(06:42):
point is just that you've played a whole year. I
mean they essentially played the entire you know, early part
of the season where you're playing non conference to opponents,
and you've played essentially your full conference schedule. You did.
All you missed out on was the postseason. The postseason,

(07:03):
it's only sixty eight of the three hundred semined teams.
There were plenty of kids who don't play in the
postseason in their college career and go home, yep, plenty yep.
So you sound like you're with me, Yeah, I mean
I think that the original doing the spring that's a layup.
That that's that takes nothing. That that's not like, oh wow,

(07:24):
they came up with some creative idea. Those kids didn't
get a chance to play at all, So let's not
celebrate them for that decision. That's what I'm saying. That's
a layoup. You don't even need to be a part
of college college sports. To understand those kids had something
taken away from them, But as far as the basketball
and whatnot, I'm an agreement. I just don't understand why

(07:48):
you would do that, to come back for a hole
to start another season and then still no, no guarantee
you're gonna play in the postseason, you know what I mean?
So I don't. I don't. I don't get that at all.
I mean, let's let's keep it real. When these seniors
don't graduate or whatever year they may be, is there
an uproar, Oh, they didn't graduate, they didn't get to

(08:10):
experience graduation. No, nobody really cares. You know what I'm saying. Now,
you care that they don't get to play in an
NC double A tournament, which for many of them would
just be one game anyway. No, it shows the priorities
are off. And I get it again. It'd be great
if a cash Is Winston could play in another NC

(08:31):
double A tournament for Michigan State and all these guys.
I understand that, and a lot of these guys won't
go to the NBA. But it's just an unfortunate situation
that all of us are dealing with, and other people
have had similar things. I brought it up the other
day about the people who worked hard for the nineteen
eighty Olympics and the United States boycotted that they didn't

(08:53):
get that back, right, That's right, they didn't. It happens sometimes,
and unfortunately it happens in your situation and your time,
and things have happened. We've seen strikes in certain sports.
You talk about the teams that I always remember the
nineteen ninety four Montreal exposed. You remember they had that
great team and they had the strike. They never got

(09:14):
to go to the World Series. Expos never won anything.
It could have changed everything. Maybe they still have a
franchise there, Chris, had they won that World Series in
nineteen ninety four. Right, none of it happened, right, just
didn't happen. And we're talking about you know, because you've
seen a lot of people put this in the language
of it's an experience that the kids are missing out
on it, and I get it. But a lot of

(09:34):
these schools also Robert canceling the graduations, you know, and
you know that, but you know when you have two
daughters who who are ready to graduate come May, and
you might miss out on Michigan Michigan's canceled. There's yeah,
my daughter in Michigan won't won't walk. You know, she'll graduate,
but she won't walk. There will be no cetrimony. That's

(09:54):
the moment that you you know what I mean, you
put in four years. It's a proud moment for your
mom and your dad and your friends and family. I mean,
it's what it's all about, you know, after the blood,
sweat and tears for four years. Yeah, that's a that's something.
But I'm sure you know you understand what's going on.
You can't put all those people together, absolutely absolutely, so

(10:16):
it just is what it is. And I'd be interested
to see what the listeners think. But and we'll give
you your chances always to weigh on on that. The
other thing, Rob, is that there was an interesting article
in which I believe he's the vice president of the NCAA. Yes,

(10:36):
Dan Gavitt. He told the Associated Press they actually were
thinking Wednesday night when Rudy Gobert got the you know,
it was revealed that he had the coronavirus, and then
even in the Thursday morning, that maybe they could salvage
the tournament in a sixteen team as opposed to sixty

(10:57):
eight teams, sixteen team tournament that only lasted a weekend,
so you'd play Friday and Saturday, and then there'd be
a championship game on Monday night. My thinking is that
would have been nice. Like before Rudy Gobert got the coronavirus,
I think that would have been a legitimate, you know, possibility,

(11:20):
and I think it would have been fine. I think,
you know, we would have got a little bit of
March madness. Obviously all the teams wouldn't have been able
to participate, but I think I certainly would have been
fine with just sixteens. I would have been I wouldn't
ever the weekend. I would I would have had an issue.
And there would have been a lot of schools not participating.
And if they would say, well, if you could put
sixteen together, why can't it be thirty two, or why

(11:42):
can't it be because it's a weekend. No, I'm just saying,
but there'll be a lot of people who would be salty,
probably more than who would be happy. Yeah, yeah, but
I do it. I think it'd be good. And I think, again,
you got to be an adult about it and understand
if we're gonna do this thing in one weekend. We
can only have sixteen teams, and so I would have

(12:03):
been fine with it. But again, once Rudy Gobert got
the coronavirus, you know, there was no possibility of that happening.
That would have been a really bad look and not
to mention dangerous for the athletes and the people that
were in attendance wouldn't have been fans, I assume, but
just you know, staff and people like that. But I
would have liked that it would have It would have

(12:26):
not been, obviously what march madness usually is, but I
think it would have. I think it would have been great.
But obviously they couldn't have done it. You know, once
the test came in. Let's see what do you guys
think eight seven, seven ninety nine On Fox eight seven
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine, you have
a chance to weigh in on one of two questions. One,

(12:48):
should the winter athletes, mainly the men's and women's basketball
players who are seniors and missing out on the NCUBAA tournament,
should they get another year of eligibility? And then what'd
you think about that idea sixteen team tournament over the
weekend would you have been happy with that had we

(13:08):
been able to put it together eight seven, seven nine nine,
six sixty three sixty nine. You're turned away in we'll
continue the conversation with you. Next is the Eye Couple
Chris and Rob Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has

has your covered. It's that easy. Eight seven, seven ninety nine.
Or in Fox we want you to weigh in on
the NC double A. Let's start with Tim in Nebraska. Tim,
welcome to the Eye Couple, taking my call. Hey, I'll

(14:13):
get to my point about the NCABLEA, but I just
want to say I was I can relate to rob
because I just tried to go to Walmart and the
toilet paper thing. Okay, that's fine, I got some toilet paper,
but I wanted to get a bag of potatoes. And
everybody is freaking out yea, and treating it like this
country is gonna go and do martial law lockdown and
we're not gonna be able to get our everyday essential.

(14:35):
It's a joke. It is unbelievad And I don't know, seriously,
and I thought about it. I'm not sure if it
had something to do with this is people's pay day
and they just want to load up, you know what
I mean, like they got paid today. Yeah, I think
I don't. I don't think so. I think people are
just panicking. We we we it's human nature that if

(14:58):
we feel like we're losing control of something, we go
to the complete extreme and freak out as human nature.
And it's a joke. Everybody that stockpiling and hoarding all
this stuff, they need to relax and chill because everybody
that just wants to do their normal grocery shopping can't
do it now. Because my neighbors got a thousand rolls
of toilet papers stocked up in his freaking garage. Rob,

(15:20):
you remember we saw this, uh why two k remember
twenty years ago you had people manic and thinking the
world had no idea. I remember sitting there. I was
married then, and we didn't go out that night. You remember.
People didn't know what to expect, right, And we were
just sitting there and to the year two thousand came
and we looked at each other. Nothing happened, and we

(15:41):
were like, were you thinking something might happen? Yes, because
that's what that's what people were Sayingbody was going nuts.
I don't think so. But oh, the computers won't work everything.
You're gonna lose all your money in the bank account.
You remember all that? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go
to Keith in Illinois. Keith, you're on with Christ and
Rob the Eye couple. Hey, what's up? That's how you
do it. We're great man. How are you? I'm doing okay? Hey,

(16:04):
I'm gonna put it to you like this. That's stiff
year senior stuff. That sounds pretty good. Get the colors
that so you know, what about the teams that don't
make the tournament, You're gonna get their seas. As far
as as far as that's concerned, I really been Illinois
and I work at Bradley. Okay, hurt, very very I'm
asking you this. Let's say, let's just I'm just gonna

(16:25):
throw out these schools. Let's say Illinois would have made
the tournament, so you want to get their seniors an
extra year. But let's say Bradley would not have made
the tournament. You're gonna give their seniors an extra year. Yes,
I think you could. I think you could. I don't
want to have to stop it. Yeah, no, I'm anna
look bias on you. You saw hearted, that's what you are.

(16:48):
They played the whole season. They had the whole season.
This was the postseason, right, they probably played thirty games
or so. You're talking about the majority of Valley. That
would be very hard for Missouri Valley Conference team to
get more than one bed, and winning the conference would
have been great. All right, let's go to Isaac in Utah. Isaac,

(17:12):
are you as softest? Keith? Hey? What's up, guys? What's up?
How are you good? Good? Hey? First of all, mine
was about the tournament. Sixteen games. I think that'd be
I think that'd be such a bad idea. I mean,
I'm from Utah. With Utah State winning the championship game,

(17:33):
you know, they wouldn't be in that sixteen teen though
they like they deserve to be in there. They won
the championship game, I mean, what they make it past
the first or second round? Probably not. But that's the
problem with sixteen. I agree. I think there would be
a lot of people, a lot of schools that would
be like, oh, okay, so wait a minute, we did this,
and you're you're not picking us, but you're picking another

(17:54):
school who maybe didn't win the conference champion or you
know what I mean, didn't do as well, but they're
bigger name school or something. You would have had to
be really like I could, I would say no more
than two teams for a conference, you know what I mean, Like,
no more than that, maybe not even that for most
of them, but I think you would have had to

(18:15):
do that. So a lot of blue bloods who finished
third in their conference or something wouldn't have made it.
So I think it would have been good. There's always arguments,
even when they have sixty eight or sixty four, we're
always you know, right, And that's why trying to cut
it down to sixteen, because it is gonna be even
what would have been. It would have been crazy, but
that would have gave people something to talk about. That's
that's all people want at this point. Let's go to Landing.

(18:38):
Also in Utah Landing. You're on with the odd couple. Yeah, hey,
thanks you guys for taking my call. I share the
same sentiment. I think the sixteen teams is a terrible idea.
And the reason is Sam Merrill. Sam Merrill played three
games in three days, beat San Diego State with a buzzer.
He never was taken out of that game. He deserves

(19:01):
to be in the championship more than anybody. I would
just give him a whole new season if he wanted it.
He had an opportunity to showcase his talents in front
of the whole nation, and he's gonna miss that. And
if you cut it to sixteen teams, it hurts out
much more. All right, that's an interesting take. What the
other thing is this rob you would have had to

(19:22):
have because let's say you got sixteen teams, so Friday
you play. I guess they were saying it would start Thursday,
So Thursday you would have been able to play eight
games and then Friday four and then two one Sunday
or Saturday and then okay, so I was thinking you
might have to play two games one day, but not
so Mateo in Fresno. You're on with the Eye Couple

(19:44):
going up, Robin, Chris, longtime listener, first time calling. Wow, Thanks,
what's happening? What's going on? Guys? I just want to
talk about the sixteen teams? What do you guys think
about now, Craig me if I'm wrong? Isn't there thirty
one automatic bids? Why can't they just extend it to
the thirty one automatic bids with a random or a

(20:06):
play in for the thirty second team. Making a thirty
two team tournament a sixteen team tournament is gonna cut
out half of those automatic qualifiers just by proxy, and
then you would have to and and how do they
come up with those six team teams? Like you just
said this fifteen that deserved to be there just off
of that, And then how do you tell them though

(20:27):
then they feel like we got shafted. Yeah, and I
understand there's a sixty eight team tournament, so thirty plus
are gonna get a little bright. Even if you do
thirty two, people are gonna be upset. I mean if
they have the automatic ways fire, but you always have
people that are gonna be upset. But you would have
a lot more with sixty now, you would, you would.

(20:48):
But I mean, obviously this is fictional, none of it's happening.
But I just think it would have been good if
they could have salvaged it and do it over a weekend.
That would have been nice. But you know, obviously it
didn't happen. Let's go to Bill in Colorado. Bill, you're
on with Chris and Robb. It's Bill. There's only once

(21:10):
he's gone. Let let's go to Trevor and Sacramento. Trevor,
you're on with Chris and Robb. Hey, guys, thanks for
taking my call. But so I agree with you guys.
I think that would be a pretty good move by
the NCAA if they gave the another year of eligibility
for their seniors. But my question basketball seniors. Yeah, yes, yes,

(21:33):
but tell them why? Tell us why they because we
don't think they We think the spring sports are, of course,
but the basketball players had a full season. They just
missed the postseason tournament and the nc Double A tournament.
Nor So, why do you think they deserved. They played
probably twenty five to thirty games already, why do they

(21:54):
deserve another full year of eligibility. So I guess I'm
kind of on both sides of the argument. One of
the reasons why I think they should get it is
because obviously, you know the Grand Prize, which is an
NCAA tournament. Every senior is gonna want to play in that,
especially if their team hadn't been there before. But the
other side of the argument is what about those incoming
freshmen that were to come in and potentially there's some

(22:16):
playing time that now they're not going to get because
there's a starting senior who gets that extra year of eligibility.
I'm curious to see what you guys think about that.
If that were to potentially happen, Well, it's going to
happen with the uh, the spring sports, so in baseball
you're going to have that very situation. I think it
just is what it is. Rob. I mean, you know
you're going it's just more competition, But you know, I

(22:39):
know that certain spots you only have so many spots
for scholarships. Don't just have to figure it out? Yeah,
because this is so uncharted and so different that you
just have to you'd probably have to uh, you know,
overlook or a lot of the rules that are already
in place, because it's just will be a ladhouse to
figure it out, right, no question, And all right, let's

(23:00):
get a little more insight on the future of the NFL.
It's our man, the former NFL veteran E from Salim.
He joins us next, but first, be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and
Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. If it

(23:21):
is The I Couple coming to you live from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy to say fifteen
percent or more on your car and shorts with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine
four seven Auto. The only hard part is figuring out
which way is easier. You hear him here every weekend
on Fox Sports Radio. Former NFL veteran, Our good buddy

(23:43):
E from Salim E from What's up Man? What's happening?
How are you doing man? How you're doing? We are
We are good? How are you you hanging in there?
I'm hanging there y'all say, you know, you guys are
of the age of the one of us, not me.

(24:05):
You might go on, man, I'm all right, thank you,
thank you, oh man. But let's get right to it.
Even now, let me ask you this. When you were
a player in the NFL, you played almost twenty years
or to a twelve years? Um? Thirteen, my bad, Okay,
thirteen years. I know. I know y'all sensitive about that. Right,

(24:27):
that has very that has ramifications. I get it. Um.
Were you involved with the union at all? Um? No,
not in terms of being a union rapper or anything like. Okay,
because I'm wondering, what do you think about this current
you know CBA that's on, you know that's proposed being proposed,

(24:48):
and obviously he's gonna be voted voted on within the
next couple of days by the players. Are you in
favor of it? You think it's a good one for them,
or you think they should vote No, I'm not in
favor of of expanding games. I don't. I don't. I
don't think you need to do that. I think the
full workload of seventeen total regular season weeks, meaning sixteen

(25:12):
games and one bye week for each team. I think
that's sufficient. If you want to cut down a preseason
game and just put it to three preseason games, also
think that's uh sufficient. But in terms of you know,
adding another game, adding more teams to the playoffs, right,
possibly teams getting in there that didn't deserve to get

(25:34):
in there, I'm not. I'm not for that all for
you know, for bigger profits for the owners, I'm not.
I'm okay with that. Now you were a player, um
that you know a lot of these guys are saying
they want the extra money. That's why they're willing to
go to the seventeen games and even potentially make more
money by making the playoffs. Do you see their point
or you still don't think it's worth the seventeenth game? Now,

(25:57):
I don't think it's worth it, But I see with
their point that will always get current players to vote.
If you continue to say more money for you, I
mean that's a no brainer. They do that like back
when we were trying to negotiate lifetime healthcare ten years
ago with the current CBA, they threw out more money,

(26:18):
show the healthcare went away, and until we get serious
about that. So current players aren't thinking about five years
after they retire, ten years after they retire. The nature
of the game won't allow you to even think like that. Well, right,
and I'm sorry, you got it, you got it. I
was just gonna say, well, well, even if I'm the

(26:40):
owners and I see the union bickering and splinter, we
we got them. W do you know what I mean?
Like even on the executive board, they they they're they're
bickering players coming out big time players, and dude, this
is a bad deal. You gotta have one voice, and
you gotta you gotta be able to sell the idea.
Yea that whether you're a guy who comes to the

(27:03):
league who gets a couple of coffee or a sweet roll,
or a guy who plays twenty years, we all have
to be at it together. But that's not the way
it is in the NFL. And that's why you guys
have never gotten the deal that you deserve. And you
know why, because the pay gap is so big. People
really don't realize that everybody who's playing professional sports is

(27:25):
firstly in the NBA, in the NFL. Excuse me, they're
not millionaires. You got guys played five, six, seven years
and not be millionaires, right, Son Morris Smith said, it
shocked me. He's saying sixty percent, more than sixty percent
of the players are making the minimum. That's that's the
only way you can build a team. If you're playing

(27:45):
a quarterback a hundred and thirty four million dollars and
one hundred and five over guarantee, where is the other
money gonna go? When you really look at it, you
know you got a seller cap that you have to
use a good portion of it, like two hundred plus
millions and one hundred of Like you can play with

(28:06):
the numbers, but just think about it. Think think about
how much the Dallas Cowboys are gonna spread between three
players in the upcoming year. Think about that, not even
talking about the high paid offensive line or any of that.
So where's the money for the other guys? He from
one thing, and Rob and I feel strongly that the

(28:26):
players deserve lifetime healthcare and should fight for it. But
whenever we end up talking with a player who's either
currently involved with the union or was it was involved
when they were a player with the union, they can't.
They talk like that's not possible, and that's that they
don't need that. What they get is good enough. Where

(28:49):
do you stand on that. You said they should fight
for lifetime healthcare. Where does this notion that you can't
get it come from? And is it really I vehemently
opposed that notion, and I when you know what I'm do,
you know what we're talking about. I know that's what
you're talking about. I was at the NFL offices last
summer and I brought that up to the um um

(29:14):
the NFL Trust Committee, right with the NFL legends. I
brought that up and they were like, oh, well, you
know this and that is too expensive. We can't do that.
And I, like, I brought up the fact that Major
League Baseball has it if you play one game and
in the big game, like, well that but they were like, oh,
that's not true. Let me know, we gotta check on that.

(29:34):
So I reached out to my guy who played, and
he was like absolutely, and they weren't. They weren't comfortable
with even talking about that because they were like, well,
the premiums and they would be too expensive. And this
is this is the largest American sports franchise by a mile,
talking about it would be too expensive. Like that's crazy

(29:58):
to me, crazy, It's already doable if you look at
baseball's what the players get. And you look at even
the NBA, it's embarrassing that the NFL players just don't
don't rank, you know. And then you saw like from
a lot of players had their panties in a bunch
when when when they were talking about how much Tony

(30:19):
Romo signed with CBS. Right, nothing to do with them, right,
But but they were all worked up. No, but they
they were mad about that, but not mad enough to fight,
you know, for a great CBA. That's what I'm talking about.
If you're being worried about that, and I'm telling you,
whenever you start throwing money around, and the owners know this,
the players fixate on that. They fix eight on the

(30:42):
dollar amount, Oh we get if we added one more game.
They're not thinking health wise or long term ramifications, you know,
because people said, well, you choose to play football. Yeah,
we choose to play football. But it's also our guy
given right for our employer to take care of our
medical needs that were happened during while we're on the job.
Any job on the planet does that you have special

(31:07):
and you have a special job where I mean, Robin
I aren generally in danger of having some type of
ailment later in life. That's gonna be rerelated to our job.
Football is different, you know what I'm saying to happen
if you play enough, you don't even have to play
a long time. But they're not even starting about talking like, Okay,

(31:30):
we're gonna try this out. We're gonna start all players
that play ten years and more. We're gonna start them
with lifetime healthcare or all players, and then you just
go incrementally to where all players are covered. You know,
over the course of a long period of time. They
don't even want to broach it for any guys. But
to play, do you blame the owners or I mean

(31:52):
they're both to blame somewhat. But how much of this
is on the players for not fighting? For a lot
of it's on the players. A lot of it's on
the players because if it was serious enough, the owners
would have to They know that they can get around
that by throwing money out in percentages. Ye right, well,
you'll give you forty eight point five forty seven point
five percent of the revenue. They know they can manipulate

(32:15):
that by throwing money out there. Because current players they're
fixated on the dollar amount and minimum salaries going up
and all of that. My minimum salary when I was
playing was one hundred and sixty four thousand dollars. I
started all nineteen games, including the Super Bowl. Wow, he
from real Quick. Last thing for me, Dak, where does
this wind up? Is he franchise tag? That? Guess? Is it?

(32:37):
What is it Monday? If they even go through with business? Yeah,
he don't have to if he I mean the fact
that he's not taking the deal. I mean, I guess
if you can get more, get more, But I mean,
yeah I could. I would consider Dak a top ten quarterback.
I wouldn't consider them the best quarterback in the league
by far. I don't think he should come with any
anywhere close to what Patrick Mahomes is gonna get, which

(33:00):
I mean that would be ridiculous. I didn't think Jared
Goff deserved the contract he got, but that that's kind
of at the pace, right. You don't have to be
the best quarterback to get the best deal. It's what
the market bears. Matthew Stafford at one point got paid
the highest right here at we can go on down
the line. Yeah, yeah, he from great stuff. Man, be

(33:23):
safe out there, have a great weekend. Your two brothers,
all right, thank you piece when it's a bad joke,
truly a bad joke, and one NBA player showed us
that his immaturity level is off the charts. A couple

So far so good man, you're bringing it. You know,
I actually went into a different and create this time.
I'm scared to keep going. I seem much love rather
much love all right. Uh, Rudy Gobert Rob. He has

(34:08):
become I would even say wrongly because I was gonna
say rightly or wrongly, I say wrongly in this case.
He's become the kind of the face of the coronavirus
as far as the sports are concerned, pro in college
because everything you know, started happening after he had the coronavirus,
and he was the first one, but that was the

(34:30):
first name. So people kind of they identify with right
and and to make it worse is obviously he was
mocking it, you know when he the video came out
of him touching. No that that that is incredibly ironic,
it is. It happens, Yeah, that people who mock it

(34:53):
or you know, say something about it, or it winds
up happening to them. And it's just I don't know
what that is of all the players, right, that's probably
gonna be what twenty probably twenty players in the league
did have it or something like that. He was just
one that did. It happened too. But apparently it was
beyond just him touching the reporters microphones and phones and

(35:16):
and you know, tape recorders and things like that. The
reports coming out say that in the locker room he
actually was behaving that way with teammates and he was
touching teammates and you know, touching their belongings and things
like that. Blocking having the coronavirus too. Now, he didn't
know he had it, but he was gonna say that's

(35:37):
the one that yeah, and so none of this was
done maliciously. If he knew and he was doing that,
that's totally yea, that's where that would be. That would
be terrible that that's an ex him there. I can't
imagine any player doing that. I agree with you. That's
why I can't be that hard. He was playing, you know,

(35:58):
and and being immature and not really thinking of the
seriousness of what's going on, and then that it's revealed
that he has it, so everything you look back and go,
why was he doing that? You know, why was he
doing the things that he did and being irresponsible? See,
I think it's easier for me to and I forgive
him obviously, but it's easy for me to forgive, for

(36:21):
lack of a better term, what he did with the reporters,
because I actually do think he had good as ill
advised as it was, I think he had good intentions.
I think he was trying to show them. Look, as
far as I'm concerned, you guys can come in the
locker room. I don't think any of you. I'm not
afraid of any of you contaminating me and you know,
things like that. I think that's what he was trying

(36:42):
to show. But in the locker room, again, it's not
the worst thing in the world, but that goes beyond
like that just shows me his maturity level is very low.
Because you're not. That's not making a statement by touching
your teammates and touching their clothes or whatever it was.
You know, that's just silliness beyond what I think. You know,

(37:05):
a typical twenty six year old or whatever he is,
should have. Like, I get it. He made the public
statement in public, so all the cameras saw it. But
in the locker room in private, you're just fooling around.
You know, there's always the silly guys in the locker
room that go around doing ridiculous things. That's what I'm
thinking to go bear now, I think he's just immature

(37:27):
beyond his years or got up to his years, absolutely
just to make light of the whole circumstance and situations.
I get it. You were trying to show some affection
to the reporters and say, hey, I'm cool. I get that.
You know this is I know this sucks for you.
He could have just said, I know this sucks for
you guys that you don't have the access that you

(37:49):
once had, But I want you to know I'm gonna
be here for you if you need me, and if
they need to pull me outside the locker room because
you need to talk to me, I'm willing to come out.
That's you know what I mean, right have been a
mature way to hand. That would have been you would
have been like, Wow, that dude is right. Look at
what he's saying to the writers. I would be like, Nah,
that's a go to guy. That's a that's a stand
up And you know what if he would have been

(38:11):
which unless he would have been I guess the first
guy to get it, he would have been a sympathetic
figure instead of right, you would have been like, oh,
he was the guy who put out an olive branch
to the media. He was the guy who said that
he would do anything if they needed him, blah blah blah,
he would. It would be totally different. He was trying

(38:34):
to do that, Chris, but he did it in the
wrong way. Yep, yep. And and now the reports Robert
saying his teammates are frustrated with him, so he's gonna
have some I mean, he and Mitchell Donovan Mitchell who
also has it. I guess they're very close. But Mitchell
and the other players, according to reports, are upset with him.
So we'll see. You know, could this derail you know,
the Jazz in any way? Um? You know just with

(38:56):
their relationships. We'll see all right, It's the Eye Couple week,

get too over these next two hours. Keep it locked
right here on Fox Sports Radio. We got Corey Brewer,

(40:03):
who's an NBA champion and a two time ncuble A
National champion. He's darknier like Robert Ory. I mean, this
dude was a winner. He will join us to talk
about both the situation that college athletes and pro athletes
are currently in. That's at the bottom of the hour
in about twenty seven minutes, so you definitely want to

(40:25):
hear that. Rob Let's move from the ncuble A to
the NBA. And I gotta shout out and just give
straight up props to several NBA players who have come
out and said that they are going to give money
to the part time arena employees, the guys that are

(40:47):
at the you know, the hot dog stands and concession
stands and work in security as we you and I,
you know, as reporters would go into games and things
like that. Those are the people that are really going
to be hit hard by this. And we heard the
Golden State Warriors president Rick Welts kind of pay lip

(41:08):
service to it, you know by no fumbling over it.
Oh yeah, woa lendos support. No. No, people don't need that,
you know. What they need they need to get paid
because those jobs and the money is not that big.
So Chris, when you miss it, you miss it big time,
no question, you just miss it. No question, and you
can't make it up. You don't have to. You live

(41:29):
in paycheck to paycheck. There's no let me go into
my emergency fund in the bank. You don't have one.
I don't have one. Absolutely, So shout out to Jannis
On to Dakumpo one hundred thousand dollars of his own
money to those part time employees in Milwaukee, Kevin Love
one hundred thousand dollars of his own money to those

(41:50):
workers in Cleveland. Shout out Blake Griffin one hundred thousand
dollars of his own money to the workers in Detroit.
And Blake's been hurt basically all year, so really good
for him. Zion Williams and the rookie Rob the rookie
he's not even getting the big money yet, and he
has said he's going to take care of the payment.

(42:12):
I don't even want to say salaries because they're you know,
part time employees, they're working on hourly rates. Uh, He's
gonna take care of all of those Pelicans employees for
the next thirty days. But this is because I love
what the players are doing. But it's once again, it's
just it shouldn't be coming from them. Well, there's some

(42:36):
teams let me before you go there, and I know
where you want to go, and I'm with you. But
some teams are stepping up. The Portland Trailblazers have said
they're gonna cover the salaries for the or the payments
for those workers for the nine remaining home games or
what games that were supposed to be home games. Dalla
Dallas Mavericks doing it for their remaining home games, which

(42:59):
was Philadelphia doing it, and the Flyers as well in
the NHL, and the Memphis Grizzlies as well. Um, and
here's the one thing. First of all, Adam Silver should
make that mandatory. I think, just make that mandatory. What
the Blazers, you know, the remaining home games nine? Just

(43:21):
pay the people gonna be hurt the most. That's it.
And it should come from the team and at some
other situation or when the NBA. I don't know, Chris,
you know there's money that there's fine money that I
know that goes to charity sometimes maybe you know what
I mean, maybe you take from that pool. I'm not saying,

(43:41):
you know, but but this should be money to help
the people, and it should be coming from the owners
or the league. Or whoever, not really the players that
the league. So no, that's fine, that's the owners should
be doing it more. But they should. The thing about
here's the thing about Dallas. They're throwing a little twist

(44:02):
on there that the play the part time employees. I
don't know if they've made this mandatory, but Cuban mentioned this,
they gotta they're gonna do some type of community service.
Stop it, right, are you gonna do some type of
community service? But you know what that is. You got
the time, you got the time mark, Cuban, you're doing

(44:24):
community service. You gotta make these part time employees have
to do some community service to get paid. Disgraceful and
you know what that's like, Chris, that was like, and
I'm just gonna tell you this is my this is
what remind me of. This is the stuff the rhetoric
that they got from people when they when people got
welfare that they had to do like community service. These

(44:47):
are people who are down and out or struggling, campaig
their rent, you know what I mean, don't have money
and you're making it like, oh you we're not giving
you a handout. You have to work for it. That's
what this is and that's a slap in the face.
So those employees who are working for you, the only
reason they're not working, Chris, there are no games to work.
It ain't like they just want to check and they

(45:08):
don't want to show up a no show job, right.
That is that is embarrassing. It really is an insulting
no question about it, no question about it. And that's why.
And here's the thing too, And again I'm glad the
teams are doing this. And again I think Adam Silver,
the NBA commissioner, should make it mandatory for teams to

(45:30):
do it. Now he works for the owners, but so
what make it mandatory? But here's the thing, Yannis, Kevin
Love Blake, Griffin, Zion Rob. They're coming out of their
own pocket, right are the teams? Is this is this
coming out of the owner's pocket. No, it'll come out
of some fun or somebody from the franchise. Now I

(45:50):
know they own the franchise, but it's not their personals,
not directly. Right. You could go in and say, I'm
Mark Cuba two billion dollars and I'm gonna taking out
of my own pocket, not even out of the Mavericks
Fund or that account. I'm taking it out of my
personal savings account, and I'm going to donate this money

(46:10):
to help the people who are gonna be hurt. We've
both talked about this before. When the NFL takes the
game to Europe and Jacksonville this year, Chris right, three games,
I think it is, there's a two or three games
in London. The little people get hurt. Like you go like, oh, well,
we make a ton of money over there, Sure you do,
but what about the people who have jobs there in

(46:32):
Jacksonville who depend on those games? Ye, no question. And
I look, you know, we know, neither of us like
to get in guys pockets. You do what you want
with your money. But when I see players, and I
think a lot of fans rib they look at it like, well, yeah,
the players should do something. Lebron and you know Kauai
and they should do something. They're making, you know, hundreds

(46:54):
of millions of dollars. What about the owners? Somebody's paying
them that money? Though, somebody's paying them that money, right,
all of them. You gotta Jennie Buss is playing Lebron,
the Max, Anthony Davis, the Max, Danny Danny Green, what's
he making twelve million? A year, fifteen, whatever it is.

(47:14):
I mean, they they are the ones. I'm just saying
to the listeners and the fans out there, if you're
looking at anybody to do it, look first first at
the billionaire owners. As were feeling with the lockouts, Rob.
You know, fans tend to seem to be on the

(47:34):
side of the owners when the louse only because they
always feel and this is this is just my theory.
Because you played basketball, Chris, or you hit a baseball,
I'm just saying, you played the game right, so so
you could you you more realize or feel like I'm
closer to that guy than I am to the owner

(47:56):
where you can't envision owner a team or being a billionaire.
So I think that wive fans do it, and I
don't think it's right, but I'm I think that you
should look at the owner because ultimately everybody under him
are all employees. Players are employees, concession people are employees,

(48:16):
security guards are employees. Everybody under the owners is an employee. Right,
So that's why the owners should be on the owner
and the organization to take care of their people in
extraordinary circumstances. And this is not some guy who wants
to take off and get paid or or this is

(48:37):
this is something that he cannot control and won't get
paid and have a family and bills and and you
know it. You know, you miss most people in this country.
Most you missed two or three paychecks, Chris, and you're
in bad shape. You're in trouble. Most you no question
about it. And I just think this is an extraordinary situation.

(48:58):
This is a situation and that none of us has
ever experienced. I don't care how old you are, unless
you're like a hundred years old, and you go back
to the nineteen eighteen Spanish flu. You haven't experienced this.
None of us have. And so that's why we're saying, Look,
if somebody should be looked at as stepping up and

(49:21):
helping these people that are gonna need it, it should
be the billionaires, not the millionaires. And if you want
to hold the players feet to the fire and say
they should do it, fine, but hold them second, right,
hold the billionaires first. They should not be able to
get away with this and this community service. I'm sorry,

(49:42):
I am sorry. That should not be a requirement in
this situation to do that. If you want to offer
up the opportunity. Hey, we're the Dallas Mavericks. We want
to go out and help people, you know, who may
have coronavirus. However you want to do it. We're doing
this type of community service all of our employees, from

(50:04):
the part timers all the way up to the executives.
We want all of you to come out and do something.
That's one thing. But to say that these part time
workers have to do it, it's really like you were
making them work for the money, that's what you're saying.
This is not like that that they don't do that
with the Red Cross when the flood comes somewhere christ

(50:25):
and then go all right, we're gonna take care of
stuff and get your clothes in a place to eat
and for But then you have to work it off
after everything gets cleaned up. No, that's not what it
is right right now. It's it's just you know. So
that's all I'm saying is if you're gonna hold if
you really want to see somebody step up, let's fans
start holding a billionaire owners accountable more so than the players.

(50:50):
But look, I hope more players, you know, follow the
lead of love. I don't feel they're obligated to. But
I mean and and all of these guys are heroes, Zion, Rob.
That's really huge to me because Kevin Love is darn
near Max. He's got one hundred and thirty million dollar contract.
Yannis and Blake Griffin are Max guys. I'm not trying

(51:13):
to believe what they're doing, because that's great too. But Zion,
young guy who's that young's already digging in his pocket
and not only worried about himself, says a lot. It
just it just does. That's great, that's great. And for
him to be you know what, looks like he could
be the face of the game going forward or one
of them. Yeah, that's a great that's a great look

(51:35):
for him. And uh, definitely shout out to Yannis. And
let's hope that some other players, but more so the
owners step up and help. Now here's the thing, Rob,
and this doesn't fly in the face of what we're saying,
but the money that the league could lose, they've already
lost roughly two hundred million from China. You know, the

(51:56):
whole issue with Daryl Morey and the tweet and all that.
But they they stand if they don't play any regular
season or playoff games this year, and this is this
will tell you why they're willing to go through August
to play these games. They will lose roughly five hundred
million dollars. So you're talking about losing seven hundred million

(52:17):
dollars this season if they don't play games. Right. Yeah,
it's the ramifications, and it's it's it's through a lot
of things. You don't realize how much stuff is tied,
you know, to these things and money, and once it stops,
well that might affect the salary, it will affect the
salary cap next year. It's gonna affect a lot of things.

(52:40):
Do people, they'll be people if this goes long enough, Chris,
that'll be laid off in the There's no doubt, there's
no doubt in my mom already seeing some writers right
from something because some of the games aren't being played,
and you know, and and not only that, and then
there's a lot of guys who are freelance writers, Chris,
who you know, make money. They can make a living

(53:01):
doing it because there's enough games to do it. But
it's a free lance and if you don't have any
games to cover, those guys are again they don't get paid, right, right, right,
So even though money is gonna be lost, though you're
still gonna be fund the billionaires will be fine, it
doesn't mean you can't help the people that are gonna
be hurt the most. So eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven, seven nine nine, six sixty three

(53:23):
sixty nine. What do you think? Do you think it
should be on the owners to take care of the
staff out of their own pockets or do you think
it's just just be on these players Lebron and Kauai
and Paul George, all these Max guys. You putting it
on them or on the billionaires? If anyone eight seven

You're turning away in should we be looking more at
the billionaire owners to paid the salaries or the payments

(56:18):
of these part time workers who are gonna be out
of work because of the sports shutdowns? Or should we
be looking at the players? You're turned away and let's
start with Brad in Minnesota. Brad, you're on with Chris
and Rob. He's Brad there. Hello, go ahead, Brad, go ahead?
Can you can you hear me? Yep? We got you. Okay.

(56:41):
I think you're dad wrong about the community service thing,
and I'm gonna tell you why. Okay. Number one, how
many owners have stepped up? You know, Murk Cube is
Murk Cube is one of them. He's saying his team,
he's team. I mean if you talk about stepped up
like the players and saying they're pulling out their own podcast.
But yeah, they're teams Grizzlies, Mavericks, seventy sixers and Blazers

(57:07):
that we know of. Okay, So if you want to
get down the owners that haven't stepped up, more in
power to you. I agree with you on Matt. I
don't think there's anything wrong with him asking these people
that he's gonna pay to go out and do something
for the good of the community. The country's hurting right now.

(57:28):
What better thing to do than to get out there
and help people? What about what abouts to be out
hold on? This shouldn't be charity with stipulations, Chris, because
that's what it is. It's charity when you help out people.
We talked about it and the Red Cross from the
town when the Red Cross comes to help you in

(57:50):
a bad spot. This isn't anything they created. They didn't
do this to themselves. A lot of them probably might have.
You know, the schools are canceled in school a cities
that hold on, bright, hold on, We're gonna keep brad on,
keep brad on, don't cut any schools are being cancelled.
So a lot of these part time workers may have
kids at home that they gotta watch. And now you're

(58:11):
putting this stipulation on them. Did Zion Williamson say, as
long as they come do some comauty back, then I'm
they come cut my grass. Then yeah, I'm gonna pack,
come paint my house, come clean up the garbage in
my neighborhood. Come on, that's not what. What what helping people?
And go ahead, go ahead, it's our show. But go ahead.

(58:33):
You know, I don't know that. I appreciate that. We
told you stay on. We're gonna let you ahead, go ahead. Okay.
Why can't they work during the time that they would
normally be working and getting paid for it. I don't
think they's asking too much. It's not charity. Then, then
don't compare to what Zion Blake Janie and Kevin Loving.

(58:54):
Thank you. You know what it is, Chris, I got
another job for you. I got if you want to
So I didn't like that. Why you can't work at
the arena. I'm gonna set it up where I'll set
up jobs in the community for people to work and
you'll get paid. That's what that is. And then people
have a right to take it or not. Chris, right, Yep,

(59:16):
comes is not charity. It's not. That's the difference. Let's
go to dine in Boston. Dine. You're on with Chris
and Rob Trucker died. We didn't know Trucker Din. We
just saw Din. What's up man? Hey, I was on
a pleasant surprise. Thanks guys. What's going on? Hey? You

(59:37):
know Marine Corps is saying it's separate fidelis? Are you
guys separate? Magna Always great. You guys are doing a
great job. Thank you, oh tucking sports when there is none. Thanks,
thank you, We appreciate it. Um now I know you guys.
Earlier we're talking about Ryobert and I tried to get

(59:57):
in for for the past hour or so and uh
and by the way, it's always harder to get in
when both of you were in studio. So Rob, we
miss you when you're not here. Chris, we definitely miss
you when you're not here. So you, you know, just
just giving you guys both propers. Thanks brother, thank you,
yes sir. And anyway, with Rudy Gilbert, all he did

(01:00:18):
actually is proved the NBA right. And I hated the
idea of the media not being allowed in the locker
room because you guys asked the questions I want answers
to and so. But what Gilbert did, he may have
contracted it from a carrier that was a media person,
might have been a beer vendor, a popcorn vendor, could

(01:00:39):
have been his coach. You never know who the carriers are.
And that was with the NBA's point of not having
any any extra access to their players. And I think
it ended up his silliness ended up working out for good,
you know, because it did spark this, you know, this
whole thing where games are being canceled in postpone. But
it wasn't right with he did, but it ended up

(01:01:01):
working for good. Let's go to Marty in Kentucky. Marty,
what's up you're on with the Chris and Rob during
a Friday what's up brother? Hey guys, I gotta say
it should absolutely and obviously be up to these owners.
I'm not surprised at all the Cuban and uh Para.
You know at the Grizzlies, the seventy six ers are

(01:01:22):
on by like fourteen people. So I don't know about them,
but those two got Cuban and Para. They're self made millionaires. Um.
That's the types that will take care of their people. Now,
the type, let's just use the worst guy for example,
James Doldan. They just still to play games with fans there. Yeah,
he's a typical NBA owner. This. You know, this guy,

(01:01:45):
his dad was to be in their own cable vision.
Send him down that he tried to be a musician
when he when he was young, and he failed at dad.
So then he decided to work for daddy and his
daddy fitting to Cleveland. You might remember that Chris. He
went down to Cleveland and ran a sports radio net
Right Network and became a CEO Cable Vision. You know,
is he got handed everything by his daddy. Those are

(01:02:06):
the types that see these ury workers. It's just numbers,
not people, and that's just pretty much what it's all about.
They don't really care about their fans, their their employees.
They're just paying the players because they have to, because
they're they're on the salary right, because they have to.
Thank you, Marty as always wisdom there. What do you think?

(01:02:27):
All right? So we're gonna be joined in a moment
by our man we mentioned him, Corey Brewery. He's won
championships at the NBA level and the NC Double A level.
He'll be joining us next, but first, be sure to
catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar
and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app.

(01:02:50):
If it is the I Couple of Christ and rib
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's easy to say fifteen percent of more in your
car insurance with Geico Geico dot com or call eight
hundred and nine four seven Auto. The only hard part
is figuring out which way is easier. Rob, we're talking
about tone deaf. Why is the UFC still having events

(01:03:14):
with fans? They're playing in Las Vegas, gonna be with fans, right, Steve,
You just said that London with fans and the reason
is because Dana White's a big friend of Donald Trump,
and Donald Trump says this is not a big deal,
and he talks to the UFC president and that's what
he believes. Ridiculous. The rest of the world is shut down,
all the major events, And why why put people at risk?

(01:03:37):
I don't get it. Is it because you want to say, hey,
we'll put on an event. There's nothing else on. Everybody's
gonna have to watch out. Da White very proudly said,
everybody else's panicking. Unbelievable. It's just it's I don't I
don't know what you could do to stop it. I
hope that fans won't go, but you know people how

(01:03:57):
people are, it'll probably sell out. That's how especially since
they're they're dying for, you know, something, to some sports,
to some there. Yeah. Yeah, But Dana White said, everybody's panicking.
When did he become an expert on this? Just when
did he become an expert? And look, let's just let's

(01:04:19):
just call it what it is. If he's listening to Trump,
Trump said it was a hoax, right, it was a
democratic hoax or something. We don't want to get into
the politics, but you can't call uh something this serious
and pooh pooh it and act like things on like
this is real deal and people's lives are at stake,
So why are you trying to do this? Why are

(01:04:42):
you why? It's just it's okay, we'll step down, Chris.
We'll stop for thirty days and maybe we'll get back
to our lives and the games and all the other
stuff that we normally do. It's okay. I got a
message for people, you know what, use this time. Take
care of your life, organize it, clean out your closets,

(01:05:03):
clean out your draw Seriously, when do you have time, Chris,
to stop and you have nothing else to do, you
do something constructive with it. I agree, I'm serious, that's serious.
I totally agree. Go take care of your life. All
the things you've put off and you haven't taken care of.
You'll never get another opportunity in your life when the

(01:05:24):
world stops and you can and you can really try
to make some changes and get some things accomplished. Because
because some of this is pride, you know, there is
a group of people out there who are like, we're panicking,
we're overreacting, we're gonna you know, we want to go
on with life as usual. We want to show that
this is not changing what we do. That's pride. Pride

(01:05:48):
go ahead before a fall, and so don't be prideful,
be cautious, and that's what it should be. All right.
We're welcoming in a guy. As we said, he was
a winner at every level. I'm sure I'm gonna ask
him this, but I'm sure he wanted the high school
level two because he won two nc Double A championships
and an NBA championship too. Corey, did you win a

(01:06:11):
high school championship? Um? I got to the state semifinals
in basketball. I won't winning football though. Oh you you
were a good football player? Huh? I want too bad?
What position? Play? Receiver? Okay? Okay, Now were you being
recruited like by big time colleges or or or not? Yeah?

(01:06:32):
I was getting recruited to play football about some big
time schools? Really? Okay? So do you think you made
the right decision? You made the right to ship. Do
you think you could have made the NFL? I'm not
gonna say that. I was played like a one hundred
and seventy pounds. You might have made it, but you
would have been broken up, I might not have played
too long. This is Corey Brewer, as I said, an

(01:06:53):
NBA champion, two time nc double A champion with the
University of Florida. Thanks for joining us, Corey. Let's go.
Let's start with college. UM what do you think? I mean,
you obviously were able to play in the tournament and
had great experiences. Obviously, what do you how do you
feel for these kids who you know, some of them
have had great years and a lot of teams kind

(01:07:15):
of came out of nowhere this year. San Diego stayed
and you know some of these schools, Dayton, Yeah, unusual,
unusually successful years. They're not gonna be able to play
in the tournament. UM, tell us about that experience and
what you know, how they're feeling, because you know how
great it is now. First of all, I feel bad

(01:07:36):
for all the kids, especially the seniors, who are not
gonna get to play in the tournament that last year.
But man, it's nothing like playing in the NCAA tournament.
So for all those kids to just be let down
basically not been out play, it's tough. You know, I
know this, it's crazy what's going on right now. But
I feel for those guys. But you know, I had
an amazing time. It's nothing like that CLA tournament. You
know when Louise you go home, when you move on.

(01:07:59):
It's just the best tournament in the world. Corey, Corey,
before you go, Rob, how does that come? How does
the NCUBAA tournament compared to playing in the NBA playoffs?
The experience, it's a big difference. You know, I want
a championship with the Dallas leverage um, but you know,
seven games serious, You know, if you got a really
good team, you got a great coach, you can game
play and you can win seven games. Seriously, an NCAA

(01:08:21):
tournament you can. You can't have a bad game, and
if the other team is high, you know you could
be in trouble because you lose, you go home. Corey.
My my, My big problem I have with the NCAA
is they were trying to come up with all kinds
of ways you're gonna play it without without without fans,
and then they were talking about maybe a sixteen game

(01:08:42):
I mean sixteen team tournity. They were trying to continue
to play regardless. The only reason that they didn't play
is because big schools like Kansas and UH Duke said
that they weren't. Their president said, we're not playing whether
there's a tournament or not. What did you what did
you see by that that there wasn't their leadership to
say we'd rather keep the kids safe rather than playing

(01:09:04):
a tournament. Or did you like what they did was
still trying to play the tournament despite what's going on
in the world right now. Now, you can't play the tournament.
You gotta keep the kids safe, man, I don't care
what you do. The safety for the kids comes first,
you know. I know the NTA turn makes a lot
of money for schools, and but you got you gotta

(01:09:25):
take care of the kids. What's you're feeling on where
the NBA should go now? Now? I was thinking, I mean,
they've already played sixty sum games. That's enough to see
who the top eight teams are in each conference. I
was thinking, you know, resume if they can in April
or whether it's April or May, and just start with
the playoffs. The playoffs itself is like two months long.

(01:09:48):
Do you think they should go ahead and finish out
the regular season or just go straight to the playoffs
assuming they can come back at all, Assuming they can
come back at all. I think you gotta look at
the standards. I think they got many to look is
there are the teams that have a chance to get
in the playoffs, or if it's going to be a
long shot for a bunch of teams, you should just

(01:10:08):
go ahead straight through the playoffs. Yeah, in the West,
we saw this in nineteen. Yeah, it can change. I mean,
but three and a half, memphisis up by three and
a half games on a few teams in the West,
and the East is pretty much settled. Orlando's got like
a five and a half game lead over the ninth
place team, So it's kind of it's kind of tough

(01:10:29):
not to play it out with the three and a
half games when teams that they can get get in
the playoffs. But I just hope they can resume. That's
that's the biggest thing right now. I just hope that
this blows over the nicklame zoom. Right when when you
just when you see the world stop, especially this country
with sports, and you know how big sports are in
this country, I mean it does does it does it

(01:10:52):
feel like unreal like a movie? Like I mean, like
when you start seeing like the NBA season is going
to be suspended it and then all these other things
started to come What was going through your head just
when when you finally heard that the NBA was suspended,
it was unreal. It's m I couldn't believe it. You know,
when NBA stops and the NCAA tournament stops, you know,

(01:11:14):
like this is serious, like because sports, like you said,
America love sports, and if they have to stop with
the stop sports, it's this is serious now, Corey. The
guy who's become the face of this is Rudy Gobert.
And we saw what he did with touching all the
reporters microphones and reporters and things like that. But the
reports are that he was actually in the locker room

(01:11:36):
joking about it, touching his teammates, touching their belongings, you know,
joking like you know, this is coronavirus, ain't no big
deal and all that stuff. And obviously he comes down
with it. Donovan Mitchell, his teammate, comes down with it,
and they're saying the reports are that the players are
really upset with Rudy and and and frustrated with his behavior.

(01:11:59):
Do you think that's something that could linger and maybe
if they can come back and play could hurt their chemistry.
And how would you feel in that situation if you
were one of those players with the jazz who Rudy
was playing around with. I think guys have a right
to be upset, you know, because no virus is nothing
to play with it now everybody sees live but you know,

(01:12:22):
I think everybody's professional. So once season comes back, I
don't think it's gonna linger that much. But guys pretty mad,
I can say that. So I just hope, you know,
I just hope then come back and play. And I
feel bad for Rudy because I know he might have
been joking around, but this ship, right, people are gonna
look at him in a different light now, Corey. Last
thing the the for me? The uh, some players have

(01:12:46):
stepped up and donated money, uh Yannis and who else?
Kevin Love and Blake Griffin in Detroit and you know,
like donated money to try to help pay for the
vendors and the security guards and all the people people
who work at the arena who you know, when when
those games go away, they lose their money and their livelihood.

(01:13:07):
But but shouldn't it really shouldn't the owners be the
ones to step up as well or if not at all,
uh mostly and and pay the employee salaries during these
times more so than even the players. For sure. I
think it's great what the players are doing. You know,
the staff at the arenas, they do a great job

(01:13:27):
and they're there every game, and they take care of
the fans, and you know, they're nice of the players.
So you're right. I think the owners should. They should
donate too, you know, there's just more money and take
care of people who are gonna be unemployed. Corey, great stuff, man.
We appreciate the time. Be safe out there, man, have
a great weekend. Appreciate you hang in there. The most

(01:13:47):
controversial segment of the week is here. Shop talk is next.
It's the Eye Couple. Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot com
and within the iHeartRadio app. Search f SR to listen
live all let's get right into it. It is time

(01:14:08):
for shop talk. Nobody's never been a bomb shop, you
know that. Ain't nobody you would talk about whoever, whatever, whatever,
you won't do it about its shop talk. That is right.
You know what time it is. It is the odd
couple Fox Sports Radio with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker,
and sometimes we like to take a moment to step

(01:14:29):
outside the world of sports, and more so now than ever,
we have to. So we want to come up with
a fun story for you, guys, and I want to
get your guys as inside on what you would do.
So as major events, major gatherings, sporting events, even most
places that have a lot of people, like supermarkets, we're
always worried of going to these major gatherings. So we're

(01:14:50):
trying to figure out what would we do as individuals
if our us, ourselves had to go through this. So
the question I thought of guys was if you had
to be locked up or even put up in your
room them or just exclude yourself from society for two weeks,
what would you do. Is there some kind of an
item you would need? Is there a food type or
maybe even some type of a show you would binge watch?
What would you yourself need that one thing to help

(01:15:12):
you get through that time? Go ahead and start with Rob.
All I need is some chicken wings and my DVD
Full Sea, full series set of the Golden Girls, and
I'm good. That's it. That's it. I don't need to
binge on anything else. I could just put those on
for two weeks, watch them for two weeks, and I
could watch every episode the show was on for like

(01:15:35):
eight seasons, seven or eight seasons. Plenty of good shows
to watch. If I got a plethora of wings, I'm good.
That's all I need. Well, look, I'm the only one
on this set that is married outside of States. But
as far as Kevin and and DJ Alex the Vegan
and Rob, of course, all I need is my wife.
There's a lot of things we can do locked up

(01:15:57):
in our house and we can have fun, So all
I need is her. Outside of that, i'd love to
have my computer because I might do some writing. I might,
you know, hold up and do some writing, young author.
Huh yeah, yeah, a little bit of writing. Your wife
will have a honey du list for you while. But yeah,
that that's really all I need. As long as I

(01:16:17):
got hurt there, we'll figure out what we need to do.
We'll be good. What about do you know what's funny? Guys?
Let me guess I go for it some lettuce speech. Okay,
Roccoley got in, Well, what's funny is since everybody is
raiding the shopping districts and the supermarkets. That is the

(01:16:38):
one thing I can always find still is biodegradable for that. Yeah,
it's all around, So I don't think I need to
worry about that. What would be surprising to you, guys,
I don't know if you know this about me. I'm
a huge gamer. So actually for me to be locked
up for two weeks to get away from people, if
I had like an Xbox one X or maybe like
a Nintendo Switch, I'm cool man, I'd be chilling for
the whole two weeks. Wow, yeah, I know you're a

(01:16:58):
big gamer. Yeah, show website. Don't you have a website?
Or oh the podcast we do? Yeah? Yeah, it's We've
Nation Podcast w e B Nation Podcast. We do video games, animals,
and we're kind of like trying to become the Ryan
Seacrest of the sports and anime world. So that's what
we're pushing for. Oh, keV, you got you got something? keV? Yeah? Um,
I would think I would just stick with the traditional Netflix.

(01:17:19):
I can't go wrong with Netflix. I am a binge
watcher right now, well right now I'm into Hunters. Actually
that's on Amazon Prime. But I guess I've had to
pick one show. Um, probably Peaky Blinders. I love really yeah,
you guys got to check it out. Peaky. What's it
about she used to work at with the levronon Shirley right, Pek, Yeah, yeah,

(01:17:44):
it's about this old back in like the early nineteenth century. Um,
like a British gang kind of going around and uh,
you know, causing a little havoc around the city. So
it's good stuff. Man, you guys gotta check it out.
I'll tell you the one. And I'm mentioned this yesterday
to Tony Jones, the writer in Utah. I would binge
watch um hip Hop Evolution. It's all your series on Netflix.

(01:18:05):
It's really good. It's the best documentary that I've seen
on hip hop. So I will watch that. You also
got UM Breaking Bad, which was awesome. I bet you
know you wouldn't be interested in this, But I'm just saying,
I bet you to pour in SIGHTESZ. What I'm just saying,

(01:18:27):
come then and says look, let me let me this
is a family show. I'm sorry gonna read and you
talking about watching watching your your fifth I'm sorry, I'm
just being odd. Couple. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker

I am at Chris Underscore brus Hard on Twitter, Chris

(01:19:10):
Brusard sixty eight on Instagram. Rob is that Rob Parker
FS one on both Twitter and The Graham. At the
bottom of the hour and about twenty seven minutes, we'll
be joined by our man, he covers college sports for
Fox Sports Radio, Aaron Torres. Always good to talk to him.
He'll have everything we need to catch up on with

(01:19:31):
the NC double A. And while we're talking about Aaron, Rob,
let's start with the NCUBLEA. The big news of the
day is that they have decided, which seems pretty obvious
to me, a no brainer, but that they are going
to give the spring athlete two seasons have been canceled.
So you're thinking about baseball, you're thinking about softball, sports

(01:19:53):
like that. They're going to get their extra year of
eligibility back. So the seniors, this doesn't have to be
the end of it for them now. Granted a lot
of them will probably be graduating, but they will retain
their eligibility so if they want to play next season
they can. The big question rob has become should they

(01:20:15):
give the winter sports athletes the seniors another year of eligibility?
And we're mainly talking about the basketball and football and
the basketball players male and female, because those who won't
get a chance to be in the NC Double A Tournamentum,
they're they're gonna miss out on that and even their
postseason tournaments for the most most part with their conferences.

(01:20:39):
So there is a debate going on as to whether
or not those athletes should get their extra year of eligibility.
I'll let you weigh in on it first. Yeah. I've
been saying, uh, you know, like they played your year
out played. I just don't get the push for that. Yes,

(01:21:00):
people want to get to the tournament and they hate
to go out without playing in the tournament, but there's
no guarantee that you're going to the tournament if you
came back. I just think that that season kind of
came and went, and even without the playoffs, they played
a full season. So I don't see it in that case.
The spring, I think you mentioned it. It's it's a layup.

(01:21:21):
It's easy, that's easy to do. Right. They didn't play right.
This season was totally wiped out. They didn't get to
play the seniors senior senior season playing softball, so they
should have one season left because they didn't play at all.
It'd just be like if a player got injured and
they didn't play any of the year, you know you

(01:21:41):
get to play another year. So and I'm with you. Look,
I'm looking at the rankings. Kansas they played thirty one games,
Gonzaga thirty one, Dayton thirty one, Florida State, Baylor thirty
San Diego State thirty two. Those are the top six
teams in the country. They all played thirty or more games.
I mean, that's a full season. Rob you and I

(01:22:02):
remember a day when you didn't even play thirty games.
If you went to the tournament exactly, you know they've
had a full season. And here's the other thing, what
about the if you're giving you think because everybody that's
talking about these kids should get their eligibility back. They're
talking about them missing the tournament, Well, what about the

(01:22:25):
teams that weren't gonna that didn't make the tournament? Right?
So what about the teams that had poor years? Are
we giving their seniors another year of eligibility too because
they weren't gonna make the tournament and they weren't gonna
be a part of March Madness? So I agree, I
don't even understand why they're even opening up this can
of worms. The basketball season the regularly you played your

(01:22:46):
senior year, Chris, Yep, you played it, no question, it
shouldn't even be a discussion. And then I hear about
the experience and the ceremony, and you know, the kids
weren't experience that. I get it, and I'm not belittling
that because I'm sure it's a tremendous experience. I love
it as a fan, so I'm sure playing in it,

(01:23:08):
especially if you go deep, especially if you're one of
those teams that you know as a lower seed and
maybe you it was the first time your team got
in a tournament or something like that, you get to
go up against one of the top ranked teams in
the country and try to pull it up. Said, I'm
sure it is wonderful. Some of these teams don't play
on national TV. Now you get to play on national TV.

(01:23:30):
We know every year a kid or two, a team
or two that nobody knew anything about, emerges and their
Cinderella and they become a big name. We can go
all the way back, rob We can think of guys
like Fitness, Dembo and you know all these guys that
I'm thinking, Roosevelt Chapman. I think back with Dayton Wade,

(01:23:51):
like there's always a guy whose name gets etched in
the cultural memory because of March madness. But what the
other students are going through the same thing, the nine athletes.
And my daughter goes to University of Michigan, she said,
to graduate. They just canceled today. They canceled the graduation,

(01:24:11):
the commencement ceremonies. She will graduate, of course, but none
of the ceremonies, none of the commencements will take place.
Are they gonna bring your daughter back for her senior
years since she didn't get built through graduation? Now, thank you,
thank you, just say that, you know what. Unfortunately, and
when she tells the story to her kids down the road.
I didn't have a graduation from ceremony. There was an

(01:24:32):
awful pandemic, pandemic that that hit the country and everything
got shut down, the NBA season, major League Baseball's opening,
you know, and they and we didn't have a graduation.
I mean, that's the story. And they've mentioned, they said
Michigan that they're gonna try to do something for the
twenty twenty graduates in the future. But let's let's just

(01:24:53):
be honest. I don't think that's very realistic. It's not
realized when they like they're gonna be working if it's
right in the summer, or some of them take a
vacation before they go to work. You know, are they
gonna go back and you know, all these kids go
back to most of them some would, but probably not
as many would know because it'll be like the moment's

(01:25:14):
lass it's over. Yeah, and your family certainly won't be
going back. And you can't do it, and you can't say, well,
we'll adam the twenty twenty one because Michigan's a huge school.
You know, you got thousands of graduates, So it's just
not realistic. But it is what it is, you know,
And so it's not just the athletes who are missing
out because of this situation. So let's not act like

(01:25:36):
it's just the athletes and give them some super special treatment,
you know that we're not giving to others from their
rob Let's move on to the NFL, because the NFL
has not, you know, suspended its league year. You know,
it's league gear starts in March, and that's when free
agency begins. And I kind of get it. They don't

(01:25:56):
have games, so it's not about games and a lot
of the stuff you could do remotely from home. It's paperwork.
It's the year starts, so it's paperwork. So here's the
thing then, So I'll throw this out at you because
I agree, I understand that fully. But with the league year,
of course, what starts is free agency. And the debate
is should they go ahead and have free agency next

(01:26:21):
week when it starts, and in a situation where obviously
the nation is all but shut down and it's in
economic peril, particularly you know the majority of Americans who,
as you said, may be struggling financially, is it a
good optic, you know, for the NFL to be having

(01:26:43):
guys signed one hundred and thirty million dollar contracts and
fifty million dollar contracts and sixty million and even you know,
like haggling over it, like, oh that's not enough. I
want seventy million. Sixty five isn't enough, which in normal
times we're we understand. But does it look too bad

(01:27:04):
in a time like this for the NFL to go
go ahead and have it or do you think they
should postponed? Probably postponed only from the standpoint also is
you can't make a visit, like people aren't trying to travel, right,
So I'm not gonna go and go go want being
wind and dyed, do you know what I mean? Which
normally you take a free agent out, you bring them

(01:27:25):
to the facility, look around. This is what we do.
You're selling the guy on everything. You take them to
the best restaurant in town. Right, No, you're right, Like
so that board is gone. Yeah, I mean Lebron James,
he's the rare player, Kevin Durant. They can say I'm
coming without visiting or you know what I mean, because
everything's gonna change for them. Tom Brady could do that,

(01:27:47):
but most players, You're right, they're gonna want to visit
they're gonna see the facility, and they're gonna want to
be sold, and they're gonna need to be sold, right,
So it's usually what happened. You gotta sell me on
why I should you know, come come to your team.
And because most of the time, most of the money
is always pretty close. Every so often somebody might blow
somebody out the water, but the money's pretty close. As

(01:28:08):
a matter of what, do you feel more comfortable? Yeah,
so I'm with you. You know, I was fine with
them not delaying the start of the season, you know,
the league season, because like you said, you can do
a lot of that. You know, it's no games being played,
so there was no reason not to delay it. But

(01:28:28):
I don't think the optics will be good at all.
I just I don't think people are in the mood too.
And again it's fine for Doc to say, you know what,
thirty three million is not enough. You know, one hundred
and five million guarantees not enough. I need one hundred
and twenty million guaranteed. I need thirty seven million a year. Whatever.
That's fine in normal times. Right now, it's not gonna

(01:28:51):
look good. And to be honest, I don't think that's
what's on people's minds, you know, like nobody's thinking about it.
And to beyond another thing, Rob, they're gonna have this
vote on the new CBA thinking about that. I agree.
I think that that should be postponed as well. I
think people are thinking about other stuff. They're they're distracted.

(01:29:11):
I just don't think it's a good time to have
a vote, really, I really really don't. And it may
only need to be two weeks or a week, you know,
let's see how things go. We're not saying it has
to bleed into next season, of course, but you've got
plenty of times. There's plenty of time. It's the off season,
and in thirty days will to reevaluate everything. See where

(01:29:33):
we are in this country, what's going on? You know
we're getting testing or people okay, is the spread slowed
down or stopped or you know what I mean? Or
what thirty days will tell you? A lot error is
an argument too that some are making hay the NFL
would own, they would own the sports landscape because nothing
else is going on. It be all about the NFL

(01:29:54):
free agency. Here's what I say to that. Number one,
that shouldn't be the line of thinking, right it's already
it's gonna be. My second point is they already own it,
so what what more do you want? It's silly. Does
the day go by? Rob? When when when NFL's not

(01:30:14):
talked about on a radio show like this or Naudia
sometimes to agree, I think I should be days we
don't talk about it, but there's not. It is NFL
all of the time. They already own the sports landscape.
They don't need a little extra, And that shouldn't be
the line of thinking anyway at this moment of time.

(01:30:37):
It should be you said it earlier, Rob, being with
your family, making sure everybody's safe. That's sure you're safe,
you know, spending some time doing things you have you
really wouldn't have the opportunity to do when we're in
the rat race, you know. No, I mean, I gotta
be honest, I don't really, I'm not. I'm not even
and we're into it because it's our jobs. But right

(01:30:58):
now I really don't necessarily only want to think about
whether Dad gets thirty three or thirty seven million a years.
I agree. It's not like it's not earth shattering or
oh my god, can you believe? Like there's so much
going on and it'll be okay if we delay it
thirty days or a few weeks or whatever. And the
same thing with the with the vote, they should really

(01:31:20):
the union. I don't think people's heads are in the
right place, and I just I think that you should
just wait and let people let this period, which is
life changing in this country. Think we've never seen it? Right,
it's seven all right, eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine.
Is you are turning away in? What do you think

(01:31:43):
should the NFL postponed the start of free agency? Or
do you are you really into it? I mean, are
you one of those it says, you know what? I
need that distraction, you know. I need to see, you know,
where Tom Brady goes right away as soon as possible.
I need to see if Dak has franchised or if
he you know, gets it becomes the highest paid quarterback

(01:32:05):
in the league. I need to see if the players
vote on this new CBA. Where are you at eight
seven seventy nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. We
will continue the conversation with you next. It's the I Couple,

DJ Alex tie shirt is in his bag. It's one
of my favorite songs. Man. How do you know that?
You know? You know, I'm an old school you know
it's funny. Is we've never talked about your music too?
I just I pull him out. Yeah, that's right now.

(01:32:48):
This is totally shocking. I mean, I think Rob, did
they perform at your wedding? Rob? He ain't laughing? Is
he there? You here? You didn't like that with huh confunction?
All right, here we go. It's out to you guys,

(01:33:09):
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Should the NFL
push back the free agent signings and all that? Or
should they go ahead with it? Do you need the distraction,
the entertainment, whatever you want to call it. Let's start
with Matthew in Las Vegas. Matthew, you're with christ and Rob. Hey, guys,

(01:33:29):
I just wanted to say I love your show. Thank you.
I just got off for work, and uh, I kind
of came in midway, as I do think they should
hold it back as far as the draft offers lead
is gonna hurt Vegas big time with all the people
not coming. I have family that work in the hotel

(01:33:50):
as managers, and they're already starting to layoff people. Oh
you already know it because people are traveling and they
got those big hotels and the spectacular. You know, all
buffets are closed. Um yep. Wow. My only thing is

(01:34:11):
um are actually a physical therapist at work in a
doctor's office, and we talked about it every day, and
it's no more common than the fluid just spreads quicker.
Most people are healthy and they get through it. It's
the immune compromise people and the elderly. But but my

(01:34:32):
question is, I don't know if you guys talked about it.
But and Michael Jordan, I think his last game yep, uh,
he played flu and the flu, the infamous flu flu game,
the famous flu game. Yep. Yeah, Rob, I don't have
much of a problem with the draft. I mean I would.
I would probably have a problem if they make it

(01:34:54):
a huge spectacle in Vegas. But if they just did it,
you know, first of all, they can't gather. They probably
not gonna able to gather that many people, so maybe
you'd have to do it over the phone, or it
might be like the old days. Yeah, it was like
the old days when when just the teams were sitting
at tables, Chris and knowing that people would still watch that,

(01:35:15):
you know. No, that's how it used to be. Yeah,
that was it. I don't know the problem with the
actual if they did the drect because you're not talking
about one hundred million dollars, you know what I mean.
I just don't know if it's the time right now
to throw those numbers in people's faces. That's all I'm saying.
Richard and West Virginia. Richard, you're on with Chris and
Rob were you out on this? Well? I think they

(01:35:36):
should go on with it because I know one thing
you were Mentchell was about Tom Brady. I definitely want
to know where he's going to go. That's the biggest
interest to me. The rest when it comes to the NFL.
Is Tom Brady gonna stay there, which I didn't think
he is crazy gonna move on someplace else? In the
forty three year old, has the accuracy gone like they

(01:35:59):
like some Well, you're we we all want to see
it there. No, there's no Hey, there's no doubt about it.
But you just wonder about the timing that that's all
we're talking about. Everybody wants to know that for sure
that's gonna be what it happens. And if he leaves,
it's the biggest story to you, no question. Let's go
to Robert and Lancaster. Robert, you know with christ and Rob. Hey,

(01:36:22):
what's going on, guys, Glad to be on the show.
I really appreciate it, Thank you. You know what I'm
gonna go with that that first caller there, man, I mean, uh, actually,
you know what I'm gonna go with Richard from Virginia. Actually, um,
I think they should just go ahead and let it happen. Um.
You know, going back to the first caller, you had

(01:36:42):
that flu game and it's no more uh than than
really the common flu. They're still searching for that vaccine
for it. Um. But you know what, you have all
these people shutting down these big gatherings. There was a
lot of stuff on rich Eysen show this morning about
the post Malone concert. But you know what we is, Uh,
you'll still have these guys going to the ATM, touching uh,

(01:37:06):
touching the money that was at the Script club last night,
not caring at all. So you know, how how serious
is this wor there are some things that you just
you know, no mean, money is money, right, But that's
what I keep telling you about washing your hands and
sanitize it. I mean, that's all you can do. If
you do that, keep your hands out of your mouth,

(01:37:28):
don't rub your eyes, right, don't touch your door knob
and rub your eyes, don't put your hands in your mouth.
That's all you can do. That, That's it. I'm with you.
I mean, honestly, what I do, right, I do like
you said, I do what I need to do. I
keep myself clean and all that, and then I just
trust in the Lord because there's nothing else I can do.
I'm not in control of this situation. If I get it,

(01:37:49):
if I'm being responsible when I get it, then what
I'm gonna I'm not gonna. You know, it's not my fault.
Right If you're going around licking door handles right now whatever, right,
then you're asking for exactly Let's go to Robert and Land.
That was Robert Dean in North Carolina. Dean, you're on
with christ and Rob All right, hey, gentleman, how you doing? Great? Man?

(01:38:13):
Are you? Hey? Try having named Dean Smith in North Carolina?
People do people call you something else? Did you want
to have a different name? Well, well, now I'm kind
of old school. I'm kind of old. So how old
I'm growing up? Dan Smith wasn't around how old? Okay,
if you don't mind, okay, put this way. I was

(01:38:35):
a Chiefs fan. I was eleven years old when um
Hankstram won the Oh my god, okay, sound doesn't sound young. Yes,
I'm shocked that you said. Did you even know who? That?
You even know who? Hanks Stram? Hanks? Hey? Hey you
all William near but yeah, yeah, receivers Taylor one of

(01:38:59):
your fas. Yeah yeah, all right, go ahead, go ahead. Well, well, gentlemen,
I think you know, all the time, when time's gone
tough in America, sports and things like that just help
people take their mind off of bad things. So I
think just think for the aspect of it, not looking
at the money. But hold on, but you can't take
the money out of because that's a big part of it.

(01:39:20):
I get what you're saying, because my problem is kind
of only with the money. You know that that's kind
of gonna be out there, and nobody really wants to
hear about that in tough times. But you can't take
I get it. If there was, if we weren't talking
about the numbers, Rob, I'd be fine with it. But
the money's gonna be in people's faces. It just is.
It just won't feel right right, And it's always it's just, uh,

(01:39:44):
what do we call it? You know, the timing or
or how something feels yep um, and the time for
everything there is and there are times that you don't
want to people are like a recessions going on and
you're bragging about how much money you have and what's
going on. People don't want to hear that. There's no
there's nothing wrong with a great joke, but there are

(01:40:04):
times you shouldn't tell that joke. You know, it is
what it is. Let's go to Chris in Tennessee. Chris,
you're on with the Eye Couple. Chris you there, Oh
that stuffy Yeah, go ahead, I said, I understand that
the Vegas gonna take a hit. You know what I'm
saying about the the NFL is to just go in
playing for now, probably a couple of weeks and know

(01:40:26):
and no probably assis to what's going on from there.
But so that's not going on. This plan like three
age is supposed to start in a few days. They're
supposed to start right right, So I'm talking about I'm
talking about like the draft fliers don't ain'talk about the
free ag and stuff like that, and plus the whole

(01:40:48):
people go out to stoves to band out all the
hand sanitas not bad at top back to her, So
they don't make sense. Man, So the water the best
way to go. The wall is the best way to go. Come.
We've been the trust D album. You'll be surprisedn't you know?
You know, wash your hands somebody another person come out
to bad food. They don't never wash the hand of
the you see. You see that all the time, and

(01:41:11):
it baffles met. People come out of not just the ural,
which is bad enough. They come out of the stall
and walk straight out without washing their hand. You don't
know what they touch is what you do know what
they touched? Wasn't it ain't pretty? All right? We are
gonna be joined by our college sports a guru aeron

which way is easier. He you can hear him here
on Fox Sports Radio on the weekends. He's our college
sports guru, none other than Aaron Torres joining us. What's up, man?
How are you? I just want to say, Fellas, in

(01:42:14):
these uncertain times, I don't think there is a voice
that I would rather hear than Steve the Sagers. I mean,
com cool, collected. That guy just puts me at ease.
So it's great hearing him coming in. What's up? Fellas?
Is no question about it. He is really quick, guys,
to every example that I've used this week. When people

(01:42:36):
ask me how crazy has this week been? I use
the example that I talk to you guys on Tuesday night,
and it seemed crazy that we would play tournament games
without fans, and then forty eight hours later the whole
event is canceled. So I have used you guys all
week as an example of just how quickly this thing
expected you know, you know, moved along in all sports,

(01:42:56):
but especially college basketball, No, no question about it. I
mean when we were on Wednesday night, rob stuff was
developing every ten minutes, well get every hour, every ten
minutes there we would go to a break and come
back and it would be news. Yeah, it was incredible.
Let me ask you this, Aaron. And I know you
haven't talked about you know, all the coaches and players

(01:43:17):
and all that, but I'm sure you've talked to some people.
Are people understanding like, you know what, hey, we had
no choice, we get it? Or are they privately they
wouldn't say it publicly but privately upset, like really upset,
like we should have tried something we could play with
no fans, or this is over you know, we're panicking,

(01:43:37):
this is an overreaction, you know where people at? Yeah,
it's really interesting, Chris. I think the sentiment yesterday when
it happened was we had no choice, this was the
only alternative. But man, does it suck? I think what
has happened since people woke up this morning is that
people in college basketball are starting to look at how,

(01:43:58):
for example, the NBA handled it. And I've been very
critical of Adam Silver in a lot of capacities. But
what I love about what he has done he has
said nothing definitive about what is going to happen. He
has not said, we're planning on coming back on this day.
We're planning on you know, we're canceling the rest of
the regular season and starting the playoffs. We're going straight
to the finals. He has just said, you know, as
new information presents itself, you know that we are going

(01:44:22):
to act accordingly. And I do think there are a
lot of people across college basketball that wish Mark Emritt
had taken more of a level headed approach. Now, is
it realistic to say that we would play this tournament
in May when a lot of the best players are
preparing for the draft. Probably not. Could we get the venues?
Who knows, But I think that everybody would have liked
cooler heads to prevail and to just say, you know,

(01:44:45):
something to the effect of this tournament is being postponed
indefinitely with the very real reality that it will not
be played and then you know, give it. You know,
in two weeks, when we have more information, we'll try
to figure out a contingency plan or whatever it is.
Like I said, Chris, I really do think that as
of last night. I think the tone has changed, even
from the time people went to bed last night to

(01:45:07):
the time they woke up this morning, and they're seeing
how other sports are handling this. But this is the
other thing too. Yeah, the NCAA to me and Aaron,
you could correct me or stop me, but didn't seem
like they were they. I know there's money on the table,
and I'm not knocking them for trying to get everything in.
But it wasn't until some of the bigger schools like

(01:45:28):
Kansas and and and UM Duke right basically said we're
not coming whether you have a tournament or not. And
then all of a sudden, h you know, the NCAA
followed suit d You did you see it that way? Well?
What I saw, Rob was a mixed message from all parties.
And you know, one thing I've been pretty consistent on,

(01:45:49):
you guys know, and I think one of the reasons
you guys like having me either as a guest an
occasional host. You know, I don't just if there's a
common narrative in sports, I don't always just agree with
it for the sake of agreeing. And so, you know,
over the last couple of years, Mark Emmert, who runs
the nc has been criticized a lot. And you know
what I said was is he really that bad? Is
it that big of a deal that he did X,

(01:46:09):
Y or Z. But I think that this week showed
that his leadership's qualities are very poor. For the reason, Rob,
I'll give you an example. I know in the you know,
in certain conferences, like I'll give you an example Wednesday
afternoon that there were certain conferences holding press conferences saying

(01:46:32):
we are proceeding as normal. Fans in the stands tournament
will go on as that press release that was originally
saying that there would be no fans in the NCAA tournament. Like, So,
imagine being a conference commissioner and the person that you
answer to is not giving you that message, and you're
giving your own fans a different message. And so, yes, Rob,

(01:46:53):
to your point, I think there are a lot of
people inside college basketball and inside college athletics that are
very frustrated with the leadership that came out of this
week for Mark Embers and Chris, let me have one
last follow up and airon the Big East. What a
terrible when I heard that they were playing that game
that day and then to call the game at halftime

(01:47:14):
after the NBA the night before had pulled the plug
and they were still playing with fans in the stands. Again,
where's the leadership? How could you bring the kids to
the arena and the fans and sell popcorn and hot
dogs and then call the game at halftime. Well, Rob,
this this points to the issue that I just referenced,

(01:47:35):
is that all of the conferences were planning on playing
that day, and you know, the Big East, it just
still happened. They were the first one to tip off.
It was crazy. You know. I was in Las Vegas
for the PAC twelve tournament, getting ready to come home
because my work there was done as is, and Jay
Billis is on ESPN talking about that it's preposterous that
we're playing the ACC tournament and then literally ten minutes

(01:47:56):
later they canceled while he was on air. The Big
Twelve had had teams on the floor. Um, you know,
with guys working out getting ready for the game and
they got pulled off the floor. The Big Ten had
the first game was set to go and they pulled
the players off, and the Big East just had the
misfortune of being the one that tipped off right at
twelve thirty nine Pacific, and they were the ones that

(01:48:19):
looked bad. I don't blame them at all. They were
just trying to follow suit of everybody else. And it
goes back to the core issue and what we were
talking about. The leadership was very poor this week from
the top with Mark Emmert Aaron speaking of decisions needing
to be made. Now, obviously they've given the spring sports
athletes like the baseball players, softball players, they get their eligibility.

(01:48:39):
The seniors they get their fourth year of eligibility, which
to us is a no brainer. I mean, no, they
didn't play this senior season. They should they should still
have it. That's simple. But are they really considering giving
winter sport athletes like basketball players another year, the seniors
another year of eligibility just because they're missing their conference

(01:49:02):
tournaments and the NC Double A tournament, Because that doesn't
make sense to me, because they did play thirty plus games.
They played the whole season, right, are you well? Well,
And I think the question becomes at that point, you know,
because it's funny. I was on with somebody earlier and
they said that exactly what you guys said, and I said,
I think you can make a case it's the exact
opposite in that, you know, these kids played out a

(01:49:26):
whole season, the kids at Dayton or the kids at
San Diego State or Baylor, they know how good they were.
Now obviously there's no guarantee that they'll be good next year,
but to rob them of having the opportunity to compete
for a championship like in college baseball, you know, I
don't even know who's ranked number one, but say UCLA's
ranked number one, we have no idea if they're actually
the best team in the country. We got a pretty

(01:49:47):
good idea that Kansas is the best team in college basketball. Now,
whether they would have proved it or not over the
course of six games in the tournament. As another question altogether,
I still think there's there's I don't think we're as
close on that one as people, you know, at as
as people want. I know, the NCAA actually, to their credit,
is trying to move quickly, because you know, schools have
to make decisions, and you know recruits would have to

(01:50:08):
get out of scholarships if they were coming for another guy.
Blah blah blah blah blah. I know they're acting quickly.
I personally have no problem with it. I don't, Okay,
So what about the kids from the schools that yees
didn't make the senior year again? Well? See, and this
is the fascinating part, right is what about say a

(01:50:28):
fifth year senior that already had an extra year of eligibility.
Do they get a sixty year now? Um? To you know?
Is it? Uh? There's somebody that would would have been
red shirted and play? Yeah? Yeah, I mean listen, we
have a lot of transfers in this world right now.
I mean listen, Baylor's starting center was a fifth year senior,
so he isn't a high end NBA prospect. Do we

(01:50:50):
now give him a sixty year? So there's a lot
of questions, and it's a great point by you. And
the one thing I would say is, and I love
this sport, but you know this isn't going to impact
the best the best players that are seniors that are
gonna be first round picks. They're gonna go and make
their money. Where it could impact is the role players
and guys like that. So I don't even know how
much of an impact it would have. I think it's

(01:51:10):
cool the idea of allowing them to come back, I
don't know how close it is to actually happen enough. Yeah,
I just I don't think, like I said, it's unfortunate.
I hate that dayton A San Diego State, you know,
doesn't get a chance to maybe prove that they're the
best team in the nation and all that stuff. But
it's not unprecedented. We saw the nineteen ninety four Expos

(01:51:33):
had the best record in baseball, the season ended on
a strike. We saw the nineteen eighty Olympics Aaron, where
people put in blood sweating peers for four years, right,
and the United States boycott a lot more into but
that's right or there. I'm just and they remember Aaron.
They're they're canceling graduations in parts in different schools, so

(01:51:54):
just the regular students graduations. Chris's daughters, they canceled her
graduation from Mission again. So all these kids athletes are
not are missing out on stuff because Chris doesn't really
know Aaron, is that his daughter. I don't know if
she was really graduating anyway, so it's kind of saved.
She's on the safe exact. No, she's not, all right, Aaron,

(01:52:16):
Great stuff man, As always, we always appreciate the time.
Have a great weekend, man, and be safe out there.
All right, Well, thank you guys. Keep killing it if
you need me through March because there's no basketball. I
don't know what you guys are going to talk about
a lot of golden girls, I'm sure, but all you boy, Okay,
we might bring sure. All right, more I Couple coming

(01:52:36):

good as it used to sound when I was great.

(01:52:59):
Come on, man, you remember this, Rob? Oh yeah, this
is more like I remember this. This is Rob's like
second year covering MLB. Wow. Okay, when is the I
Couple of Chris Bruce, Rob Parker. We're wrapping up another
three hour has been a lot of fun. Look, we

(01:53:19):
don't have much sports to talk about, but I think
we've made the most of it. We enjoy your cause,
the interaction with you guys. Kevin O'Connell and his maiden
Maiden voyage as a producer did a great job. Thank you,
thank you very much. Yes, excellent job. DJ Alex tischert
always excellent as usual. Isabel was great as an intern, Yes, yes,

(01:53:44):
and of course she's he always solid, steady professional. Steve
de Sager, Rob, you, look, there's a new normal right
now and at least for the next few weeks. Life
as we all know it has changed, and you were
talking about I think it was last hour, like, look,
take some time to do some things, and you know

(01:54:06):
you wouldn't normally do because we it's a rat race.
I mean there's a rav race, and there's a lot
of stuff because you notice you put to the side.
You never get to that too, but you could and
I'll be you know, we taught Italy's obviously in the news,
and I think many of us have been to Italy.
When I've been to Italy and Spain for that matter,
they are not quite It's not like they're way behind,

(01:54:29):
but they're not quite as technologically advanced as we are
you noticed that if you've been there recently. Um, But
they are not as much in the rat race as
we are. Right, they'll take siestas in Spain and in
a nap, which is we're the only ones who worked
ten hours and don't take any time off, and they

(01:54:49):
they have way more vacation and and all kinds of stuff.
And we're in a real rab race, really are. And
I've I've gotten some big plastic bags, you know, garbage bags.
I was wondering where you were going. But I'm I'm
gonna go through some some boxes, some stuff, some clothes,

(01:55:11):
take it to the salve. I'm gonna go through the stuff.
That's what I'm gonna do with this time that we're
not covering games, we're not watching games. You could do
that stuff if you're as you're binge watching, going through stuff,
right and getting rid of stuff, clean up, no question.
I actually got a lot of spring cleaning that I
could do. I got so many clothes and take it
to this You don't wear it, Chris, Yeah, old man,

(01:55:34):
if I haven't worn it in ten years, guess what,
I don't get rid of it, you know. And so yeah,
I got that. But I also rob I said it.
I'm gonna do a little writing. I'm not gonna give
too much up about what I'm writing, but I'm gonna
do a little bit of writing. I've been wanting too.
I've you know, like again the rat race during our
normal day, I just don't have I hate to say it,

(01:55:55):
I don't really have time to do it. I'd have
to kill myself to make the time. We can always
make the time, but I got so many other things
going on, obviously robbing sports. We have to stay on
top of everything because stuff. Every night, job is watching
sports and reading sports. I now that sounds great, and
it is great. Let'sten. You know. I'm not trying to
w always us, you know, but you just have to

(01:56:17):
stay on top of everything. And so um, I'm looking
forward to having a little bit of time to write
some things that I want to write. And so um, yeah,
I think you gave great advice, like take this time
be when your family get outside, and you know, fresh
air is good, Fresh air is good at this time,
you know. King You notice that White House press conference

(01:56:40):
they had earlier today was outside because it's it's less
dangerous outside. It's not an airborne it's disease, Go hiking. Yeah,
do something, you know, paint I don't know, you know,
read books that's like, go get to if I'm writing them,
ripped at the Amazon dot com. It's a great read.

(01:57:04):
It's a great read. Do that. But yeah, just you know, look,
try to look on the bright side. I mean, when
this is a tough time, we're not trying to belittle
it in any way. But let's try to be optimistic
and make the most out of it. And then of
course listen to the eye couple next reek. We'll be
back
