(00:23):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Brussa and Rod Harker. Last night, Rob g is
just tickled pink. He couldn't be happier. He is so
excited and got the big head too that his Las
(00:45):
Vegas Raiders are two and old and actually looking good.
Big win last night. Both you and I Rob didn't
think they pulled that one off, But big win last
night over the New Orleans Saints, and I do have
to admit that the Raiders actually look good. But conversely,
(01:08):
big part of the story was Drew Breesh looked pretty
pretty mediocre numbers, okay, or if you just don't didn't
watch the game and just look at the numbers, twenty
six for thirty eight, three hundred and twelve yards, but
he only had one t D and one interception. And
(01:30):
I'm gonna say this knowing that he didn't have Michael Thomas,
who's obviously his favorite receiver, his security blanket, if you will,
along with Alvin Kamarum, it isn't that surprising that he
struggled or at least didn't didn't have a lights out
game and lead them to victory. But Rob, we know
(01:52):
Breeze is what forty one? Are you? You know where
you ad on Breeze and and how he's looking right now?
You concerned? If you're a saying you picked the Saints
to get into the Super Bowl, you concerned? No, not yet. Um.
I think that part of it. If he had three
picks and he just looked like he, you know, was
(02:13):
struggling to get the ball thrown around, he wasn't you know,
great the numbers, he still would be able to put
up three hundred yards and whatnot. And I'm not, you know,
buying into just the yard situation. But he had one
turnover a bad pick. I don't know who he was
throwing too. I didn't see any Saints around. But without
your star receiver, which is definitely could hurt, could help,
(02:34):
could hurt you. I'm not gonna panic. After two games.
They won the Big Game. To open the season. He
played okay in that game as well. He's forty one.
He's not gonna look like Drew Brees from five years
ago or ten years ago or eight years ago. You know,
he just he's not going to be that guy. But
that team is really good. They got their bus kick
(02:56):
last night. They lost three games last year. I think
they what were they thirteen and three last year? Yeah,
so they're not gonna go undefeated. There's gonna be a
couple of nights when you're gonna get beat. And they
started the game out ten nothing. Nobody was tweeting old
Drew Brees looks awful. You know what should we do?
You know how game is. You never like how you lose,
(03:17):
and it's always easy to just overreact. I'm not gonna overreact.
I still like them to win the division. I still
like them to challenge. I have them pick for the
Super Bowl from the NFC, and I still think they'll
challenge for it with all the other pieces that they have.
So I'm not like sounding the alarm not after week two. Well,
(03:41):
you and I both at least in the NFC, are
riding with old quarterbacks. Because my pick to win the
NFC not the division, but to actually get to the
super Bowl is Tampa Bay and obviously Tom Brady forty
three years old. And I gotta say this, Breezes. Breezes
(04:04):
arm doesn't look strong. I mean he's he's throwing his
average passes about five yards and he doesn't look strong
at all. We We've talked about even the last two years.
Rob how after about twelve games or so, his arm
began to fade. And it's it. I see a weaker
(04:25):
arm from Breeze than I do from Brady. Brady has
thrown the ball downfield. Brady has you know, thrown it
over twenty yards several times, hit guys deep, had you know,
some even some really nice passes that were just dropped it.
Everybody gets drops. But I'm not seeing a lack of
(04:50):
arm Street. I'm not saying he never had the strongest
arm in the world, and I know his arm probably
hadn't even as strong as it used to be. But
I'm more concerned with Breeze because he just doesn't even
seem to be able to throw the ball very far.
Like He's thrown it sixty eight times, and of those
sixty eight passes, only seven have traveled more than ten
(05:14):
yards seven and he's only completed two of them. Yeah,
but Tom Brady wasn't dinking dunk specialist as well, This
guy not not in Tampa Bay, hasn't been No, I'm
talking about that was the talking in New England when
they were running the ball the last the Super Bowls. Yeah,
but it was dinking and Duncan. It wasn't like this.
(05:35):
It wasn't five yards. Tom Brady was known for dinking,
and Duncan not like saying it's not like this. You
can win the Super Bowl if you get guys and
they get jack yards after the catch, and you get
it to some of these dynamic receivers and get the
ball to him and the biggest thing Chris, which reivers
were those in New England and not turning the ball
(05:56):
over If that's the biggest thing, well bred, Both of
them have have turned it over. Of course, as you
mentioned this Breeze's interception. But yeah, I just think that
Brady what is I believe so, yes, yes, but he
he his arm looks a lot livelier to me than Breeze. Um.
(06:22):
But yeah, I just think that New Orleans, you know,
And I saw something to day which I thought was ridiculous,
But there was actually a discussion on TV about whether
or not whether or not Breeze was on the hot seat.
It's ridiculous. Time to kill. They got what was the
three hours show to kill? I mean some of this
(06:44):
stuff is like, like, seriously, what what hot seat? You're
one and one, you went on the road, You're lost.
I mean, okay, my god is at the end of
the world. Chris is He's supposed to win every game
and never throwing. I mean, come on, and you you're
without your best receiver. Yes, that that that has that
has the factor in right, if it was that easy
(07:06):
and and you didn't have to have him and you're
gonna win every game, then he wouldn't be that special.
Come come on, Well, like we said, that's been a
security blanket. I mean, Michael Thomas is what like thirty
percent of his targets the last several years, so you
knew it was going to have and then fact you
asked about, Yeah, Brady's got three touchdown passes, three picks
so far and uh and got one Russian touchdown. Uh.
(07:31):
Two two fumbles, well but he only lost one one last.
But he's got two fumbles and three picks and Drew
Breeze has how many interceptions just one? I believe one
just to one last night. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm more
talking about the arm strength or lack thereof, which is
what I see from Breeze. And that's been a concern,
(07:53):
you know, late in the season over the last few years.
So we'll see if he has it um you know,
for most of this year. But I look this, it's
gonna be interest. Like I said, we both are putting
our faith in two old quarterbacks. But you know, and
they both got good talent around him. That's the thing, right, Yeah,
(08:18):
at that age, you're not carrying you know, I've said it.
I said about Brady all last year. He can't carry
mediocre talent anymore. But in Tampa Bay he's got exceptional
talent around him. And Breeze is the same way. He
can't carry mediocre talent, but he's got Kamar and when
he gets Michael Thomas back, he's got some good some
(08:39):
good talent. So I think both of them will be
all right, you know, Rob. You know how it is nowadays,
because there's so much discussion about every game, whether it's
on TV or radio, people tend to treat a loss
like it's the end of the world. And you know,
(09:00):
I mean, I'm sure plenty of people predicted New Orleans
to go twelve and four or thirteen and three or
whatever it might be. And you know that you're predicting
they're gonna lose three or four games. But when they
lose one of those games, people overreact. And so I
agree with you. I don't think it's time to be
(09:20):
a prisoner of the moment and say Drew Brees is done.
It's something to watch, it's something to watch. But I
wouldn't say this is if you if you're looking at
Tom Brady with all the hubbub and look at all
the weapons he has, and how good he's gonna be,
and and now they got the Running Game and all
(09:41):
the other stuff that people would think Gronk, who's been
a total non factor, you shocked that he's been a
non factor the flat I mean not really. I'm not
either if now if i'd be, I'm not even concerned either,
because when you were tired, Chris and come back, I
just I never bought into it, do you know what
I mean? It sounds like a great story, but he
(10:03):
had stopped playing football, and it's hard. I told you,
most guys who do what he did, quit do something else,
come back to football, usually wind up hurt at some
point during the season. Right, But so far, he's really
I think he's had what one catch or one target
or not one target? Yeah, yeah, but he's but but
(10:24):
not really a fact. Yeah, nothing's significant at all. But like, yeah,
I was gonna go ahead, You're gonna go ahead because
you were to make a point about Brady. Yeah, I'm
just I just I don't think he's been as advertised
like people thought, like with the weapons. I know it's
only the first two games. I don't think if the
first two games he's gonna come. If you look at it,
you gotta be a little disappointing. Quarterback ratings are under
(10:47):
eighty eighty and under, so they haven't been great even
with just the number. The rating, Like, you might not
win every game, Chris, and you might not not be
played great, but sometimes you can still have a good
quarterback acuating meeting. You're doing what you're supposed to do
and maybe the team's not totally. So all I'm saying is,
so far, it's been Brady has underwhelmed me. So far
(11:10):
with Tampa. Well, he's always gonna underwhelm you. He underwhelmed
you winning the Super Bowl. So I'm not putting any
stock in because touchdowns. He didn't throw any touchdowns in
that Super Bowl. You don't get a he had. Do
you get a ring when he had? That's why. So
if they lost, if they love Brady, if they loved
(11:32):
Tom Brady, if they lost and he threw three touchdowns,
would he get a ring? Would he get praised? No,
because you didn't pray a year before when they lost. No,
but he lost that game yards. Yes, But he also
called up the bootball. He called up the football. He
called up the football. No, I'm talking about I'm talking.
(11:53):
I'm talking about Philadelphia. He called up the football like
winning schools down the stretch. He's choked. Did he choke
down to shave up the ram ball when he made
that throw the Bronkowski All I'm saying that he gave
up the foun You don't sit here and act like,
oh he's minute's I'm not all these weapons quarterbacks. Look
(12:22):
at all the weapons. Tom Brady didn't have anything in
New England. Now look look at that team. Look at
all these weapons and receivers and tight ends and they
got running back. Oh my god, tom Brady's got talent.
Now he's gonna run the table. They're going to the
super Bowl. Where's all that? Come on? Man, he's been underwhelming,
(12:43):
he's been disappointing. He's been edging on embarrassing. Tom Brady's ware.
You're not even watching look at it. He's been here
we go the Rod Parker's stick. Let me throw out
a stick, let me throw the hot take. Tom Brady
is washed. Tom Brady's been borderline terrible. Really watch the game, Rob, seriously,
(13:04):
I mean here, seriously. Can we show a little bit
of objectivity. I'm not saying he's been Aaron Rodgers or
Pat Maholes or Russell Wilson. I'm just saying you're gonna
see here and say he's been terrible when he's what
I'm when he's had touchdowns, dropped it there, one in one.
(13:27):
It was but you because he has been underwhelming because
he has three interceptions here, So you were talking about
Jamis Winston with all the picks. Oh, Tom will clean
that up. Because with Jamis Winston had all the interceptions,
Thomas had three and two games. It's time that's what
I'm talking about. Better than Jamison. Actually he is because
(13:51):
he's not on pace to throw as many interceptions and
jamis through last year. So you just or I know,
mad math, I did do the math. Three three picks
in two games is twenty four picks. That's what it is.
You do the math and you still I mention if
(14:11):
wishing through you think that you think that's an improvement.
That's where he's said though he's tom Brady, he's Tom Brady.
Can't even debate with you because your logic just is
against your your your mores. I guess Jamie's wishing through thirty.
Tom Brady's a paying through twenty four. You think that's improvement? Uh? Yes.

say this as wrong as you are about Tom Brady,
I and I was I might have been the first
one on this fall. I know I was saying hardly
(14:56):
hardly who was before me? Hit me? And the people
give me a name because every time we had an
insider or and they were saying, Nah, they don't want him.
They New England doesn't want him. Nobody wants him. I
said Cam Newton in New England would be great. It's
(15:16):
a match made in heaven. I'm not saying super Bowl,
but they'll be a playoff team. They'll win that division.
You better get off those bills. Now, New England is better.
They go into Century Link Stadium and end up in Seattle,
whatever it's called in Seattle and give those boys all
(15:36):
they wanted a yard away from beating them. And I'm
gonna say this, Ryan Parker, I'm sure you'll agree with this.
The New England Patriots this year are better off with
Cam Newton than had they had time kept Tom Brady.
(15:57):
So that makes no sense. So you said really makes
sense because you're I'm gonna tell you why better with
Tim Newton. I'm gonna tell you why it makes sense.
I'm about to tell you. I'm glad you asked. I
said all last year, at forty three years old, Tom Brady,
(16:18):
while he still can be a good quarterback, he can't
be He's not good enough. And you know I said
this almost every week last year. He's no longer good
enough to make mediocre players to carry them to great heights.
And that's what for the most part, New England has
(16:39):
at the skilled positions, mediocre guys for the most part
elements you know obviously above that. But they got a
bunch of nondescript skilled players and Brady can't work with that.
So he's fighting Tampa because you got legitimate weapons that
(17:00):
can help him out. But in New England he needed
help and he knew it, and he was saying it
all last year. Cam. At this stage of their careers,
Cam is much better, much more equipped to make mediocre
players better run. He's throwing the ball with snap, and
(17:24):
he's got an offensive. He's got a coaching staff that
will cater the system to exactly what best fits him,
so that there they are in good hands with Cam
Newton talk about a prisoner of the moment that one
can't use you. I forbid you from ever using that
(17:45):
time the crown Cam one and one and the choke
down the game and see David is he's better than Chamberlain.
Jabbar move over, Alex, can you turn the mic off? Please?
You're so annoying? He again, please, Prisoner at the moment,
(18:10):
you got a lot of nerves, talk out of both
sides of your mouth. Tom great, Yeah, but he's great,
but the best New England. But New England's better. But
New England's better without him, I mean not, Just give
me an explanation. It doesn't make sense to me. Stick
and Givensis. Can you do that? I've done it all
the time. That's what I've been carrying the shoulder last
(18:31):
two years. What are we talking about, Mike, Yeah, be quiet.
I don't even know what you're talking about. If Tom
Brady could please his whole rep if Tom Brady does
more with less, and now all of a sudden, I
can't get a little. He didn't do anything he's before
he didn't have or you just just give a little.
(18:52):
Just told you Stick that you've been given for two years. Yeah,
that I've been right about Tom Brady. You Yeah, like
when when the Super Bowl he was terrible and he
was terrible. He's been terrible, and he's been terrible down
in uh Tampa Bay. Can make excuse after excuse after
(19:14):
you know, it's it's as if this was Jamis Winston
and he had three interceptions and two fumbled. You be
crying bloody murder. She he's a turnover machine. He's nothing good.
That white camper can't win. And now you're acting like
it's no big deal for Tom Brady to have four turnovers,
(19:36):
you and the wins. No, I'm talking about Tom and
this is what I told you, and that he's broad,
not that guy Winston who expected him to be that
guy at forty three. That's all you got. I asked
(19:58):
for big time analysis, and that's what I get. More
I gave you. I gave you. I don't have stick.
I have thirty five years in this business. I've covered
the NFL since nineteen eighth. I'm not a Johnny come
Lately sitting on the couch and I'm thinking, I'm a
football expert. I've been there. I've been to every freaking
(20:18):
stadium in this country. I'm coming the National Football League
give me every prison day I just did. I'm telling you,
I'm waiting. I'm waiting. Anybody could sit there and just
pick the favorites and act like you're telling me something.
(20:43):
Tom Brady's all you do is pick the hits. Chris,
you don't do nothing with superlow. You don't do anything easy.
I trounched you last year and NFL picks. I trashed
you this year because I've watched the game. I know
the Oh you don't. I don't really pick the fa
you go eat wins when you do, and you pick
(21:05):
them every single week. It's such a tired old act
and everybody sees through it. That's why you keep getting
your hand out. You were a whole week after week
after you were horry because you don't know what's going on.
I gotta all your doings and chance Bemi. Oh yeah,
I got the city to let me repick cads. The
city let me pick Tom Braid. Why didn't you anybody
(21:27):
because you want to win or anybody could. Yeah, you
don't need that. You don't need to be one dude,
I don't care about winning. All you're gonna do a
hot pick the abby. Let me ruffle some feathers, let
me raise some eyebrows. You know what, always picking, always
flipping the picking. This year, that's all. Yeah, go ahead, Breadville.
(21:51):
Yeah you pick her, you picked him that, You picked
up Tom Brady, the last two year old baby, you
pick him every year I win. How about the games
during the week do you get head handed to do
you win? Oh? Last year you picked Pittsburgh. The Oh yeah, Pittsburgh.
You pick Cleveland last year? All those teams, dudes because
you like them. Oh no, you grew up in I
(22:12):
grew up in Cleveland. You picked all those teams, and
you know what, they crept the bed on you. That's
what they did. You done. I asked for analysis, and
I get stick. That's what I get. No, you got
an ass. I guess it is what you got tonight. Really, really,
I didn't get one iota of analysis. I got got
pick covering this league for thirty five years, So what
(22:36):
so what? Everybody at your rage has experience. I got
experienced too. We all got experience. That's saying that new
give me something. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports

Welcome to the Eye A couple brother. What's up, gentleman,
How are you guys doing today? You got all these
sports going on at one time? How do you guys
have enough time in your show to handle it all.
(23:19):
There's there's compelling stories and everything going on right now.
It's crazy, absolutely, but we're trying to enjoy considering where
we were a few months ago with nothing. Man, we
went from nothing to us everything. We are full. I
mean with the baseball playoffs about to start. So you
got some baseball playoffs, basketball finals. Yeah, it's it's it's crazy,
(23:41):
but let's let's go to the NFL. Obviously your specialty, Um,
we got My specialty is the NBA. You know that,
you know to say, guys, are hold of me from
the game, right Warren? I remember when you used to
do the TNT stuff at the NBA. I know you
remember that, Warren. Okay, the Lakers, I want your opinion.
(24:08):
It seemed to be I think they're the heavy favorite
to win it all. Do you see anyway? I mean,
you know, barring something crazy that they don't win this championship, well,
they should win it. Like you said, I think just
the way they're playing right now, they're in a great uh,
they're in a great sink as far as playing defense,
and then their two stars are stepping up and playing
(24:29):
the way they're supposed to play in the big game.
So you take that combination and if there are other
guys were just hitting their open shots every once in
a while, they should have no problems winning the whole thing.
Speaking of not doing that great to start the season, though,
on the flip side, Tom Brady down to Tampa Bay
Warren everybody set up Jamis Winston's turnover machine. Tom Brady
(24:53):
has three picks fumbled twice. He's looked, okay, not great.
What's your take on Tom Brady so far? Three down
in Tampa. Well, it's going to take him a little
time to really feel comfortable in that offense, and that
offense is going to have to change a little bit
for Tom because, as you know, Bruce arians likes to
push the ball down the field, and every quarterback that
(25:14):
he's had, whether it's Carson Wentz, whether it's Roethlisberger, all
those guys have thrown a lot of interceptions when they've
been in that offense because that offense makes you throw
the football down the field, and the longer the balls
in the air, more problems can happen. Whether it's an
overthrown ball, a tip ball, it could be a lot
of different things. Just last week you saw Mike Evans
(25:35):
hook up when Tom thought he was going through that
was an interception. So those things are going to happen
when the ball is in the air a lot longer.
And Tom has used to throwing the ball anywhere from
zero to ten yards down the field when he was
with the Patriots all those years, and he's used to that.
So they're going to have to come to some type
of agreement. Yeah, we'll take our shots down the field
(25:56):
at times, but where Tom is most effective is in
the short path. Us Again, when you talk this, you
talk this summer about the arm strength of Breeze at
forty one Brady at forty three, what's they gonna look like?
And I've I have thought from what I've seen the
first two games that Brady's been okay throwing it down
the field. He's had a few dropped, you know, some
(26:18):
in the end zone, but he's been okay throwing it
down the field. Breeze, on the other hand, I think
you know they're throwing He's throwing it on average four
or five yards per throw. Only seven of his sixty
eight passes have gone more than ten yards. What do
you see from these two guys in terms of arm strength?
You know, I'm worried more about later in the season.
(26:39):
At the start of the season, I think everybody's arm
is a little bit fresh and they can make the
throws they need to make, except for when they have
to go off script, you know, kind of make those
throws where they're off platform. Neither one of those guys
I've seen when they have to reshuffle their feet and
set again or not not set their feet and just
have to throw with all arm, the ball does not
come out with a lot of velossity at all. They
(27:00):
they kind of have lost that. But later in the season,
when your legs start to get a little bit more
fatigued as you get older, that's where you get your
drive into the football is from your legs and your torso.
And that's where it's going to be a concern because
that's where I started to feel it later in my career.
When the legs start to go, the ball doesn't have
that same velocity on it. I'd like to see how
these two guys are going to be later in the season.
(27:21):
And we saw Drew Brees a couple of years ago
when his arm really started to sorry my expression peter
out at the end of the season, and last year
I think he was fresher because he missed six games
and his arm was fresh when he came back. But
this year could be a little bit different, especially Tom
Brady going down into that heat and humidity in Tampa.
(27:42):
It'll wear your legs out even more as a season
goes along more. And what have you seen from Aaron Rodgers?
Everybody basically buried him. He's on the demise, on a decline.
The Packers have scored average forty two and a half points. Yeah,
back to back forty point games. I think six touchdowns,
no interception. How does he look to you? Oh, he
looks great. He looks like a guy that's rejuvenated. He
(28:04):
looks like a guy with a chip on his shoulder.
But if I'm the guys that are going to be
the most upset, I'm those other receivers on the football
team who everybody's been talking about. They should have drafted
a receiver in the first round. They don't have enough weapons.
They look like they have plenty of weapons right now
on that football team. And those two young guys are
playing very, very well. And Errand's got a lot of
(28:27):
faith on him right now. The way he's throwing the
football to him. So you have a rejuvenated quarterback, a
quarterback that's motivated, and you also maybe have the quarterback
of the future sitting on the bench. So I think
the Green Bay Packers are in good shape right now.
Warren Moon Hall of Famer joining the Eye couple Warren.
One of the most surprising and disappointing starts has been
(28:48):
Carson Wentz in Philadelphia. His coach Doug Peterson basically admitted
he has regressed for whatever reason. What do you see
with wins and how concerned do you for him and
his future? I think he's trying to do too much, Chris.
I think he's trying to make every throw. He's forcing
throws in there that he shouldn't be forcing in And
(29:09):
I think he's looking at his football team. That offensive
line is depleted as far as injuries are concerned. They
don't have the great running game. And he's a guy
that's kind of taking it all on his shoulders and saying,
I've got to do it all and get it all done,
or it's not gonna get done. And at some point
he's going to have to sit back and rely on
the rest of the football team to help him. His
(29:30):
defense is going to have to step up and play better,
and they're gonna have to show try and find a
running game to take a little bit of the pressure
off of him. And I think play calling will help
that as well. Doug Peterson's got to start calling more
runs to get their quarterback out of making that he
has to make all these throws down the field and
maybe throw some more high percentage passes, especially earlier in
(29:51):
the game, to get him into a rhythm and get
his confidence back. Yeah. I want to ask one thing.
We got less than a minute. Just what did the
bacle body Atlanta Falcons? I mean this team, Warren, they
did it in the Super Bowl up twenty eight to three.
They were up twenty to nothing in Dallas and blew
that game. What do you make this is the second
(30:12):
time it's happened to Dan Quinn as a coach. Yeah.
I feel bad for Dan because I knew him here
in Seattle for many years as a great defensive coordinator
and he's gone down to Atlanta and did well his
first few years there, but just hasn't worked out these
last few years. Since they were in the Super Bowl,
and that was a total Debacco as far as those
players not knowing, they could have jumped on that ball
at any time and it would have been their football,
(30:33):
as opposed to just letting it roll and let the
Dallas Cowboys jump on it. So they blew that game.
Dallas did not beat them. The Atlanta Falcons beat themselves.
All right, that's the great war Moon. We appreciate the knowledge, Warren.
Thanks all right, guys, talk to you down the road.
