(01:08):
always excited about Friday for many reasons. One of them
is that it is the Funky Flashback Friday and DJ
Alex tischert the Vegan will be knee deep in the crates.
It's also a football Friday. More importantly, I mean, we
got a big weekend of football and a big Monday
night game and we will get into that, and of
(01:31):
course the NBA really heating up. The Los Angeles takers
Lakers take full command of their series with the Denver
Nuggets going up three one last night. But let me
welcome in my partner before we get into all of that,
mister Roy Parker. What is up man? What's happening? Happy Friday? Yes,
(01:51):
Happy Friday to you. How's your day? All good man?
Just ready to roll and then relax over the weekend.
It's been a long week, but all is good. Let's go.
All right, let's do it. Let's do it. I said already,
who's on the ones and the twos? DJ Alex Tight
Shirt aka Alex the Vegan, the super producer is in
(02:14):
the house, Rob Gara and on the updates you already
heard him, mister Steve Disager with that said, we're gonna
be joined by Tory Gurley, not Todd Gurley, but Tory Gurley,
still a former NFL player wide receiver, now an NFL
analyst and a friend of the Eye couple. So he
(02:35):
will be joining us in about twenty eight minutes. All right, Rob,
big story last night, I gotta admit, even though I'd
like to see the Lakers win the championship, I think
they will win the championship. I was hoping for Spice.
I was hoping for Denver to not the series at
two two, and then I thought this thing would really
(02:57):
be interested. Even though I expected the Lakers to win
the next two games, but I said one TV and
on our show with my head. My head was telling
me the Lakers would take command, win and go up
three to one, and that is exactly what happened and
a big part of the reason it was a real
team effort. Anthony Davis scoring big all night finishes with
(03:21):
thirty four points. Didn't rebound, I mean els inexplicably, he
has no rebounds again in the first half, but he
did come up with some big rebounds in the fourth quarter,
so I'll give him that. Dwight Howard rob a turn
back the clock performance at least in the first half,
(03:41):
gives them eleven and ten in the first half. And
can Tavias Carwell Pope and Playoff Rondo Rajon Rondo. They
both stepped up big, some big moments for them. But
Lebron James, this line is you talk about nice? Twenty
six points, nine rebounds and eight assist for Lebron James
(04:08):
was zero turnovers, gets to the file line fourteen times,
hits eleven of him. We know he's not a great
file shooter, and he hits five of six in the
last few minutes of the fourth quarter, so he was
He played a great game. But the most impressive thing
(04:30):
to me, Rob was his defense late on Jamal Murray.
Jamal Murray had been lighting it up, and he had
a great game himself thirty two points, and Lebron said,
I want him, guarded him down the stretch, told Vogel
he wanted him and shut him down, kept Murray without
(04:54):
scoring field goals, contested him at the rim, and really
was a inspiring performance for a guy in his seventeenth year,
thirty five years old. Really impressive on that part. Here's
Lebron talking about that late game defense. For me, it's just, uh,
you know, trusting my my, you know, my study of film,
(05:14):
you know, trusting personnel, you know, and uh and living
with the results. So you know, I'll tell my teammates
that I had him and everyone else can kind of
stay at bad and stay home. And I was able
to get a couple of stops and he was able
to rebound the basketball, which is the most important thing now, Rob,
as I said, Anthony Davis was huge. They're not in
this position without him. He's a huge part of this
(05:37):
team playing lights out ball. At least Score's the MVP
right now. If they went with the series, ye who's
the MVP. I would go with a D of the
series curious, that's all. Yeah, No, I would go with
a d um But the best I think Lebron James,
And I'm gonna say this, he's not to me. These
(05:58):
aren't typical Lebron performances where his fingerprints and imprint are
all over the series, even a series he's lost a
lot of that his times that has been the case.
What I see Rob is Lebron. I actually see him
fitting into the system more rather than being the system.
(06:21):
And I maybe a lot of that's because for the
first time in his career, he's not the team's leading
score so he's looking to get ad to get his
thirty and Lebron is the second leading scorer. But I
like it, But don't you also think that had to
do a lot with Lebron, like making a concerted effort
about the assists kind of thing. He kind of went
for it, knew he had a guy who could score,
(06:44):
you know what I mean. And so I think that
that is a byproduct of Lebron focusing on the assists,
knowing he has Anthony Davis. Now, well, I don't think
he did that as much in the regular season. I
actually think I'm seeing it more so this series then
I have during the season. Um, but you could be right,
(07:05):
But for me, it seems like to me, it just
seemed like playing point guard for the first time. Like
officially we know it's always brought the ball up and
essentially played point but he's always had the ball, but
point guard and he's got you know, way more than
sixty sixty five percent of the time, So that that
may have something to do with it. I'm just saying, yeah,
it felt like that this year that that was a focus,
(07:27):
you know what I mean when you and you said
it him him having the the the the the position
of point guard, you know what I mean, rather than
the guy who just has the ball all the time
and what a point guards you don't know half to
is he bringing it right right exactly? So so I
think that that's part of it. But I think, no, no,
I hear you, and I think I feel like Lebron
(07:51):
is reminding folks. And you know, I've said this from
day one that let's see how the playoffs play out
and then will that'll tell us who's the best player
in the world. And I don't think a D was
in that discussion, and I still don't. I think the
discussion is even as he might be the MVP of
this series or maybe he'll be the MVP of the finals.
(08:12):
The discussion was Lebron and I think that's legit Lebron,
Kawai and Janie and I mean, did you want to
throw Harden in there? Ad coming up with the rear.
I don't think a D is great. He's not the
best player in the world. He might be the finals MVP,
(08:33):
might be the leading scoring the finals. He's not the
best player in the world yet at least I think
the best player in the world. I think he's showing
it is still Lebron James and that's my takeaway so far. Yeah,
where are your thoughts on it? I think it's you know,
a couple of nights ago, if he didn't play as well,
(08:56):
didn't have the impact. Maybe he's not as consistent. Maybe
that's why, or it's more up and down, you know, Chris,
we talk about a finger what he used to be
do you know what I'm saying. Yeah, So sometimes when
you see those nights, then you say, and it was
just a couple of nights ago. On this show we
talked about him showing his age right and not looking
(09:18):
the same and and and then so it's not an
every night thing like maybe when he was younger. Maybe
it's an every other night or you know what I mean,
something like that. And there's flashes when you look and go, Okay,
still can do it. And then there's other nights you go,
what was he doing last night? Like like he just
wasn't in the he wasn't in the mix. Like, man,
(09:41):
you would admit, I think that the standard for him
is ultra high. But that's when when when people talk
about you being the greatest, that's what it is, right,
But see you just think that that goes with the territory, well,
especially with him. But I see, I would say, you're right.
I mean, he hasn't there are series, i mean postseasons
(10:01):
where he never has a bad game. Now he may
not win, you know what I'm saying, But he doesn't
have a great but everybody else is doing that. I mean,
I can say there's no other player in the world
I can say has delivered every night. So I'm all
I'm saying he's he's the best right now. I'm not
saying he's better than Jordan. I'm not saying he's what
he was two years ago, three years ago. I'm saying, though,
(10:24):
he's still the best player in the world. But that's
why I think like the narrative, like like the problem
is people look at Lebron and they attached at year
seventeen and used that as he's even better than he
really is. That's why he really believed he was gonna
(10:45):
be the MVP, and he got narrative might help him,
do you know what I'm saying? Yeah, And then you know,
like I've always and you said it, you said it
from day one because you have a vote, and you
knew and and we you looked at some of the
other writers and where they're thinking was and you didn't
think for a minute he had a chance to win
(11:07):
the MVP. Not my right, not for right right. I mean,
and you know, Skip was convinced he was gonna win
MVP because of the narrative. But I don't Rob, I
don't think narrative plays nearly the role in the voting
that people I don't. I agree with you. I agree.
(11:27):
I think this is where and you know people won't
understand like writers and people cover the game, dude, that
that just doesn't factor in, you know what. I mean.
You could talk about all you want on the morning
debate shows and all that. Ye, I don't think the
people who covered the game, Chris, who were there every night,
it's a totally different animal. Just absolutely absolutely, because Rob,
(11:52):
I mean, they release the votes. If you your name
is attached to this stuff, yes, and so you better
be able to back up or whether you're interviewed on
the radio show, if you're on TV or whatever, why
you made your choice. And I'm not saying there's no justification. No, no,
we're not saying that. I'm not saying he didn't, you know,
(12:13):
but to me it was clear it was. It's much
easier for me to say why Yannis was the MVP.
Why Lebrons you didn't. You didn't heade at all. You
were like, dude, and here's the other thing you just
talked about it about as a reporter, your credibility. It's
the same reason why I always bring up the Barry
(12:33):
Bonds one seven MVPs. You could dislike him, Chris, But
as a baseball writer covering the sport, tell me how
you if you went on a show or and you
didn't vote for Barry Bonds, how would you explain that? Absolutely? Right, absolutely,
you couldn't play the show? You Barry Bonds with MVP.
(12:54):
Why we got you on the show. That's what I'm
That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, I hear you, I
hear you. All right, you're turning away in as Always
A seven seven ninety nine on Fox A seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Did last night's
performance solidified and just the playoffs in general solidified that
(13:14):
Lebron is still the best player on planet Earth. We
will continue the conversation with you. Next is Chris and
Rob The Couple on a Funky Flashback TGI F Friday.
But first be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker weekdays at
(13:35):
seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app. Man He Never fails to deliver.
My Man, DJ Alex TISCHERT what you know about the
ojas Man? That's that Midwest funk although Philly two. Yeah,
(13:59):
that's that that Midwest Northeast funk. I like it. I'm impressed.
All right. It's Chris and Rob the odd couple, and
we love music, but we love sports too, and we
love you, and we love all those owned, all those owns,
America's number one battery destination. No matter what battery problems
you're dealing with, you can find your battery solution at
au those own next time you're having starting trouble started
(14:23):
all those own, America's number one battery destination. Getting his
own autos own, Rob. Why do sometimes I feel like
there's a one to be DJ within me? I don't
think it's wanna be. I think that that's where you
would be. And I don't know I used to DJ
in college, though I had radio shows and all that,
(14:45):
all that in the in the little clubs and parties
on camp. Oh gosh, I have many at that point.
I don't even know I at that point, you know people.
The only thing I can always remember about that is
my friend of mine went to UH at college, Mark Ball.
I grew up with Mark and he was at a
(15:07):
big party at college and Chris, can you imagine this?
And Alex he's walking by the DJ booth, the parties
and the throes of it, you know what I mean,
everybody's on the dance floor, music's going. He walks around
behind the DJ booth and guess what, he kicks the
(15:27):
plug out. Not on purpose, he just no gos. But
but everybody stopped stop while he quietly bent overtook the plug,
plugged it back in, and kept walking. The ing didn't start,
didn't start right up again. No, you know what I mean,
that's back. But that's crazy, right, craz See. I went
(15:48):
to this crazy you know, Oberlin was very incredibly ultra liberal.
I mean when I was there in the late eighties, right,
and um, so they had this thing called Winter Term
where for the whole month you you're off basically for
the whole month of January, but you had to do
for three or four years, you had to do a
winter turn project. But it could be I mean, I
(16:08):
don't even like saying this, but there were people that did.
If you could get a teacher or professor to okay it,
you could do anything. People you know, losing their virginity
all that. I mean, it was crazy. So we I played,
I would have got an so we had to be
on We had to be on campus. Most students were gone.
(16:28):
There were some other ones, but we had to stay
on campus for January because of basketball. But I did
one of my winter turn projects on basically honestly, learning
how to be a DJ. It was called Exercise and
Radio Communications, but it was actually it. Dah one of
the dudes on the team was a big time DJ.
(16:49):
He actually is a DJ now in Atlanta, DJ Reggie Bees.
He's like, legit, you got a show and all that.
But he taught me, you know, the ends and out
scratching mixing all that, and I was able to. I
wrote up one page paper on it and that was it.
I mean, college man, all right, age seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox all right? That sounds like the best
(17:11):
player in the world. That sounds like you got over. Yes. Uh,
let's go to Fred and DC. You're on the odd
couple of Fox Sports. Y. What's up Fred? Everything? I
got a question for you? Up? How did you sit
up there? I know this your man. I'm to real Christna,
but I'm gonna give you question you about this meet
just right there? Ye because you said DJ. The producer
(17:36):
asked you, what was your name? You had plenty. I
remember done what you wrote the paper, But then give
him me your bad DJ. And what was your DJ name?
I asked several names. I was throw one one. One
of them was the Grio. That was more of a
rap I used to wrap. That was more the grio.
(17:56):
If you know anything about black history, sound like you
block the African tribes. There was always the grio who
told the history of the tribe orally, and a lot
of times he did it poetically over drumbeats, over the bongos.
But that which is related to rapping. So I was
a conscious rapper, so I would rap. You know. I
(18:17):
wasn't rapping about gangster stuff. I was rapping about uplifting
people and uplifting black people. And so that was my name.
The grio you asked, All right there, it is all right,
Fred make your point, but nothing isn't He's not the
greatest today. Last only proved proved to me that if
you complain to the rest of Winnesday night, who's better?
(18:38):
Who's better? KD ain't even met Come on, stop it.
Kady was in the conference. He's he's been out for
We haven't seen KD all year. He's got an Achilles.
That is ruined. I'm not saying he's not gonna be
great when he gets back, but you can't. You can't.
He's not Rob and Rob it's k D in the conversation.
Come on, you can't because he's not playing. It doesn't
(19:01):
mean that KD he'll be when he was playing, right,
But but it's hard to talk about somebody who's here
and not playing. Don and Tussa and you're on the
odd a couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Don? Hey?
How are you doing? Guys? Were good? Hey, I love
the show. I just want to say I think Kawhi
is a better ball player, but his leadership skills are
(19:21):
severely lacking, and he doesn't get the best out of
his teammates. He's obviously not the leader Lebron is. And
there's some different types of players. You know. He doesn't
control the game like Lebron, doesn't do as much as Lebron,
but he's got things Lebron doesn't, his mid range shot,
fitting into a system, you know, like I was counting
(19:42):
on him at the line. You know late in the game.
He's a better he's a better defender, but we gotta
I think Rob even you would have to admit this.
Lebron has been a better stopper in these playoffs late games,
he says, a couple of blocks. Yeah, really, whatever reason, though,
it didn't happen when they really needed it, especially in
(20:05):
those last three games when they needed uh stops at
the end, you know, to stop those long runs. It
just didn't happen. Uh. Where we going, Colton in New Mexico.
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up?
How are you gentlemen doing this evening? Good man? How
are you? I can't complain? Hey. First of all, Chris,
I love the energy you're bringing the night. And Rob,
you look good in those coach sneakers. Man, thank you. Gosh,
(20:28):
I didn't even see him. So what eight hundred and
fifty dollars? No, no, no, but they're real nice. They
look like bowling shoes. But I think they were the
frosty the frosty, Thank you, buddy. So here's the deal.
They're regular twenty two hundred. He got seven twenty Nah,
these I got these. I got four a game showing idea. Chris,
(20:51):
you're gonna go ahead and DJ and host and then
Rob You're always going to be the defending contesting and
you guys are just gonna do sit con trivia. Good.
I like that, mean it's a sitcom king. I mean
you already know that. You know, well, I wouldn't. I
wouldn't go there. It's go ahead and brag, go ahead,
(21:12):
And I'm just saying I'm feeling good left, All right,
all right, point, I agree with I agree with what
you guys are saying. Uh, Chris, you know he still
is the best player, but not for prisons. You guys
are saying just simply for the fact that last night
and you're seventeen, this man told Crusoe get out of
(21:33):
my way, I'm locking down Murray and he did it
and it was phenomenal. No, that's im robbed. I mean,
thank for in their seventeenth year does that. Again, I'm
not saying he's the goat, but I'm just saying, who
in their seventeenth year does that? Yeah, I mean it's
it's it's impressive to this point, and we'll see how
(21:55):
it adds up, you know, and finishes up. But yes,
hard to argue that. Trying to pour water on Lebron.
I'm not I said, I didn't say that at all.
I think even Rob geez ready to admit Lebron's the
Laker's best player. Rob G that's gonna be a nough
for me. Dog, you didn't watch the game obviously, all
right here we go makes it like nobody watched the
(22:17):
game except for him. Rob doesn't watch the game. We
know that. We'll look ahead to Week three of the
NFL with our man, Tory Gurley, the former NFL wide out.
He joins us next, but first be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then
Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific
(22:38):
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio app. Rob,
we do have our pigskin pick off at Then in
the last segment of the show that six forty five
Pacific ninety five Eastern. Did you have you made your
picks yet? Uh No, I just looked over it. I
kind of got an idea, but I'm not there yet.
(22:59):
I thought it was some Child Engine games this week.
There are definitely games that are like la, yeah, a
layup at all? Uh that waiters Uh Pat's game. I
don't know what to make of that game. You know,
that's another game that's out there. I don't think that's
a layup either way. I don't. I agree it's gonna
(23:19):
be a we'll see. It'll be a tough week though.
It seems like, all right, we got our man in
the former NFL wide receiver NFL analysts friend of the show,
mister Tory Girley, what's up brolly'all doing on this beautiful day? Man?
Are great? We are great? Um. Now, look, I know
you we obviously played in the NFL, but I hear
(23:41):
that you were quite the basketball player. In fact, growing
up you played with Steph Curry, and from what you
tell us, you were better than Steph. Yeah, and and
and Steph Curry was three point uh three foot tall
and you were six foot tall. Let's not forget that
you're a big guy exactly, but you know the game
(24:05):
of basketball. So we just talked about this robbing. Now,
want what in your opinion before we get to the football.
Is Lebron James still the best player in the world?
Why why not? I would leave with him being the
best player in the world. I would say yes, um,
because it's all about getting to the finals and winning it.
But the way he's leading his team and quarterback in
(24:27):
that situation, It's very impressive for someone to be in
their seventeen season. Usually you see guys kind of fall
off a cliff. But for him to perform the way
he is and still getting above the rim, and and
he can't play defense for forty minutes, but you know,
to take on Jamal Murray for extensive periods, man, it
just shows that he's committed to winning. And you know,
(24:49):
that's great to see. You That's that's what you want
to see out of your superstar players. Not only did
he defend Jamal Murray, I don't think Denver scored a
basket in the last three and a half minutes. Did
Lebron defend that to as well? No, I'm just kidding,
all right. You know, you know he couldn't let the libra.
I couldn't let that go. All right. Uh, let's talk
about the Cowboys and the Seahawks. What Cowboys team do
(25:12):
you expect? Because I know they gotta win Tory, But
my goodness, I mean it was as fortunate and as
lucky as you can get. Uh, what do you expect
out of the Cowboys here? I really don't understand these
guys at all, just from a talent standpoint, they have
it from top to bottom, but um something in that organization.
(25:36):
These guys don't know how to put it together in
a game. Like You'll see him come out there and
they'll put up X amount of points. But on defense
you'll see you'll see him give up this is what
was the score. You'll see them give up the huge
flight or it can be flip flop where the offense
can't do anything in the defense shows but play. So
on Sunday, I'm expected Russell Wilson to go out there
(25:56):
and cook and know what he's been doing because DK
Metcalf Hollowet, these guys are. They're doing a great job
with just beating the defense, is getting bout the defender,
and Russ is probably arguably the best deep ball thrower
in all of NFL. Like in history, I've never seen
someone actually just plays the ball on a players so
far down field six you know, fifty sixty yards downfield.
(26:18):
So the way they're playing ball out there, I'm definitely
rating towards the home people of Seattle that go out
there and handle business against the Cowboys on Sunday story
Big Game Monday, the two best teams in the AFC
if not in the whole NFL, Baltimore, Kansas City, if
you had to start the team today with one of
(26:38):
those two quarterbacks, which one you which one you're taken? Oh,
I'm taking Patrick Mahomes. And but that's the reason why
is because I'm based around passing the ball. They've committed,
you know, Andy Reid is committed to getting weapons out
there on the perimeter and guys of Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelsey,
Samuel Watkins. So you know, having that dynamic offense, being
(26:59):
able to go up and down the field, that's very exciting,
but it also gives you the opportunity to come back,
come behind. But whenever you have the player of Lamar
Jackson of his status, you're selling out the run. That's
what everything is about, is running the football. But the
only problem these guys have Baltimore is they can't play
from behind. And that's gonna be extremely tough when it
(27:19):
comes to playoff situations. Even though I'm loving Baltimore on
Monday to get the big winds, But if I had to,
and you know, if we had a fantasy draft or whatever,
I would have to take Patrick Mahomes because this guy's
you know, arguably one of the best quarterbacks in football.
Where are you on? The Rams? Off to a two
and those start? They go to Buffalo, Buffalo's two and oh,
(27:41):
but really, the competition the two teams they beat nothing
to write home about. Do you like the Rams? Have
they rebounded from last or not? I'm in I'm in
Las Vegas right now the sports book, and that's one
of my players. I'm I have them on my little
parlay sheet. But I'm definitely loving the Rams. I think
Sean McVeigh is, he's very smart when it comes to
(28:04):
calling up plays. And Sean McDermott out there in balts
I mean not in Baltimore, excuse me. And Buffalo has
done a great job with the talent he has, but
I don't think it's gonna be able to match up
for what the Rams have on the perimeter when you
have guys like Robert Hoods, uber Cup, Tyler Higbee. Even
with the stable of backs the Rams have, I think
this is a great opportunity for them to go in
(28:26):
there and get a big win. And the reason why
I'm taking them to get the win Buffalo needs at
home field advantage and they don't. They don't have it
when the crowd isn't there. So if this game was
played in Buffalo with the crowd, then I will look
at it differently. But with no crowd, you know, it
gives Jared Golf and Sean McVeigh, you know, easier communication
(28:47):
to really pick apart their defense Tory. We're gonna talk
Rob and I are gonna talk about this next segment,
but I want to get your feelings on this. Ob
J comes out and it sounds humble, and maybe you
think it is, but you know it's the right thing
to say. And you know, all that um seems like
you're putting the team first. But when he comes out
and says, you know, I've accepted that I'm not gonna
(29:09):
have big numbers this year, you know, and I'm maturing
and I just accept that and understand that we're a
running team. And I mean, what are your thoughts on
what OBJ said, especially just two games into the season. Okay,
that is so funny Like that basically he said, for
all the people that's uh, you know, with fox bit
(29:31):
or any type of fantasy football, don't act me on
Instagram or Twitter because my facts aren't looking the way
they used to look when I was playing with the
New York Giants. You know that definitely all that is.
And unfortunately, you know, he's the receiver and we all
feel that way. We feel like the only way we
can contribute is when we're getting the ball and being
able to make plays. And unfortunately out there in Cleveland
(29:54):
they have two running backs that really could dominate the
game and make it easier for Baker Mayfield. You know,
I tru who don't think Odell Beckham is a great
hit in Cleveland or in the AFC because it's the
foul of football they play in that division. You really
don't have any uh, flashy type guys. I think OBJ
really should be playing with the Rams or um. He
(30:15):
should be in Seattle or in Green Bay Hood the
game has played differently, or Atlanta. But for him being
in that AFC North, it really just doesn't. It don't
go hand in hand. And I think he's gonna continue
to put up pedestrian type numbers just because they don't
need him. Except for a couple of times a game,
I said it had been the other way around, like
he was in New York. All right, that's our man,
(30:36):
Tory girl. He former NFL. Yes, have fun look for
Lamar Mitchell. He'll be the guy with the with the
big entourage walking around at the MGM Grand That definitely
will well. All right, brother, we appreciate you man, thank you.
All right, you heard Tory's view of Obj's comments. You're
(30:59):
here robbing my my. Next, It's the Eye Couple Fox

fast and you will not stink. All right, Rod. We
ended our segment with Tory Gurley, NFL analyst about ob
(31:43):
J And here's what OBJ said. Odell Beckham Junr, the
talented wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. He told Mary
Kay Cabot, longtime Browns beat writer. For me, this is
obj one of my biggest growths has come in accept
in a sense and for me knowing it's probably not
(32:04):
going to be that kind of season with huge numbers.
Like I always say, my goal is always going to
be my goal, and I don't feel like I'm ever
going to fall short of it. Like I said, learning
and acceptance, So you set new goals, he continues, I'm
working on having a game within a game, working on
a release during a run game, or working something else
(32:27):
a new goal aside from winning always, Nick Chubb needs
to be the number one rusher in the league or
Kareem Hunt too. You have two legitimate number one backs
in the backfield, and our team is very, very very
good at running the football, So you have to play
to your strengths. Then I think you learn where you
fit in and where you're able to make your plays
(32:47):
and how you can help the team. So basically, he
was asked about, you know, putting up big numbers this year,
doing having a type of statistical year that people expect
from him because he's so talented, and he's saying, I'm
kind of accepting that that's not gonna be the case.
What do you make of Obj's approach or attitude, Rob
(33:08):
just saying what people want to hear, that it's not
about him and not making a stake about the numbers.
And we've all seen the numbers. They're not good. You
remember I told you the over and under for his
touchdowns this year Chris was five and a half was
he got one right now? And he's got one so
far in two weeks. And when you think about last
(33:30):
year when he had four, and you remember, this is
the guy who was ballyhooing and talking about how Eli
Manning sucked, right, and now he I bet he wished
wish he had Eli Eli man I mean, I'm dead serious.
And Baker Mayfield a jury still out, so you know,
I know Chris. You look at his numbers, which is Chris,
(33:50):
which is crazy. I think Baker Mayfield's had three of
his best games all against the Bengals defenses, like go
look at the numbers, like like take that away. And
I don't know where you are with him, And I
think he realizes that he can't win by complaining, do
you know what I mean? Right, he's in that spot
(34:11):
where people are already numbers aren't good, so you gotta
be piped down. You can't you can't say anything because
remember this summer in the offseason, he was singing a
different tune right when him and Cam and I beams
backing it up. But yeah, it's I'm back to being
you know, arrogant and the Lions let loose. And you
know I'm paraphrase right, I mean, he can't say that.
(34:34):
So this, this is what he's reduced to. Yeah, I agree,
I'm I think it's one of two things. It's either,
like Tory said, you're getting out in front of what
you know is not gonna be a special season for you, right,
you know you're not gonna make all pro you know
you're not gonna be viewed is one of the best
(34:55):
receivers in the game this year because your numbers aren't
gonna be there. You're not gonna have all the highlights
that people expect from you. So you're getting out in
front of it and saying, you know, hey, I told
you don't expect it. You know I told you so,
you know, I mean. So he's kind of getting out
in front of the criticism to try to stem it off,
(35:16):
and he wants people to be like, well, hey, OBJ
said he's not gonna have huge numbers. It's not because
he's not great, it's just because of the situation. Or
it's a subtle shot that Baker Mayfield and I it
appears Rob that they're close, right, like friends and stuff.
That's what that's what it. I don't know if it's
(35:37):
I'm not gonna say it's a shot like he's really
just ripping Baker because obviously it seems like that's his boy.
But it is saying because look, I don't care how
good your running backs are. If you got a good
quarterback and receiver, and because that's the thing, opj and
Jarvis Landry are the equivalent of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
(36:00):
Wouldn't you agree with that? Yeah, Like, they're right, you
got two of the best receivers, just like you got
two great running backs. And if you have a great
pass or a very good passer, then you're not just
gonna run the ball. You're gonna you're gonna be versatile,
unless say, right, Baker's not capable. You know, don't you remember,
like all of a sudden, now now that now it's like, well,
(36:22):
you got the running backs you gotta feedball all that.
Don't you remember the player who said it wouldn't be fair.
Their offense wasn't gonna be fair. It was gonna be
a video game. Do you remember that or something? Right? Right? Right? Absolutely?
What happened to that? Like like, oh, look at all
the weapons. Oh my god, you won't be able to
stop the Browns. That's what it was billed as. And
now you're telling me, no, it can't be done because
(36:45):
the running backs gotta be fed real right, Okay, And
you're right. And see that's the thing, Like I don't
like that attitude. Who who go who has that attitude? Like?
What receiver, especially in today's NFL where passing is crazy,
what receivers concedes Like That's where the people that are saying, oh,
he's saying the right thing, he's being humble. No, what
(37:08):
receiver concedes I'm not gonna have much of a season,
you know, I'm not gonna No. I mean, you're you're
one of the best receivers in the league. You got
another great receiver on the other side of you, Jarvis Landry.
Like who concedes like that? So that's why I think
it's one of the two things. And that he's trying
to get out in front of the criticism, or he
(37:31):
just doesn't think Baker is capable of helping him have
these huge numbers. Either way, Rob, it is not good.
It ain't good, all right. What is good is the
Eye Couple. And we got two hours left on this
funky flashback Friday, plenty more to come, so keep it locked, mother,
