At the bottom of the hour, we got trolling or
(00:49):
rolling with our man, Martin Wis and then that's followed
by Bruce Arts five five. So really good one this week,
So keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio.
All Right, we're gonna move. We've been talking a lot
of NBA, but we're gonna stick with the NFL for
a moment and a big game. We just were talking
(01:10):
about the Browns and are there budding issues in that
locker room with their receivers OBJ and Jarvis Landry wanting
the ball more havn't complained about it, but as if
from said, just the fact that it's a topic of
conversation is not it's problematic. Let's leave it at that.
(01:34):
They've got a big game against the Cowboys this weekend.
And I'll tell you what, And the Browns are two
and one, the Cowboys one and two. I from this
is one of the games I'm most looking forward to
this weekend. And interestingly, it kind of includes two teams
(01:57):
that I gets, for lack of a better phrase, are
searching for their identity. Now maybe the Browns have found
it and that they've been a running team for the
first few weeks, and they got these two flamboyant receivers
are well known receivers, one of ums flamboyant in OBJ
(02:19):
but they're better off running the ball. And then you've
got so where how are they gonna deal with that tension,
that dynamic. And then with the Cowboys, I mean, Dak
Prescott is racking up stats as far as yards, like
he's Dan Marino. He's leading the league in passing yards.
(02:41):
They're leading the league in yards, and now they're not
leading them in points. They're eighth in points per game
at twenty nine, which I think is more important than
yards because we know yards, you know, sometimes you can
be being blown out. Team goes into preventing all that,
so you can rack up yards that kind of meaningless yards.
But nonetheless it is an explosive offense. And they though
(03:07):
with Ezekiel Elliott, one of the best running backs in
the league, a guy that when he rushes for one
hundred yards at least, they're twenty three and five since
twenty sixteen, and he has not rushed for a hundred
yards in any of the three games this year, first
(03:27):
time in his career. And I Dak said today though yesterday,
I'm sorry that he wants to keep pushing the explosive offense.
He said. They want to play up tempo regardless of
you know, the score, regardless of whether they're winning a
(03:47):
blowout or trailing or whatever the case a closed game.
He wants to keep the foot on the gas when
some are thinking, you know what, you need to let
up a little and hand the ball off to your
your bell cow name Ezekiel Elliott. Where are you at
on this and and could this be problematic in Dallas? Well,
(04:09):
it is problematic, that could be. It is which is
indicative of their their one and two records, which should
be owing three. Uh were not for the tremendous The
kick was great, but the lack of knowledge by the
Atlanta Falcons and their players on the receiving end of
(04:31):
that kick, it just blows my mind. And that way
was quickly do you think because I don't know, maybe
they came out and said it, but the last thing
I heard was they knew they could jump on it,
but they didn't want to because well, actually I'm not
I know. I was talking with Brandon Marshall about it.
(04:52):
He was on the hands team back in the day.
He said, you're weight. You want to wait because you
don't want to pounce on it and lose it and
then it's a live ball before the ten yards. I
thought that was crazy. You gotta jump on the ball.
But if you have coaching, to me, what it is
is if you can recover the ball, recover it right now.
(05:15):
Don't dive at it and hit it the back the
other way. But if you can recover the ball, so
it wouldn't have been hard to handle, because what can
happen is one of those Atlanta Falcon players could have
just walked over to it because it was moving so slow.
They could have walked over to it at seven, eight,
nine yards and fell on the ball. Period, It was
(05:40):
nothing Dallas could have done in that moment. But once
it got to ten yards, what is the point of
diving on it? Now? It's a live football, right right,
And so if it weren't for that blunder by the
hapless Atlanta Falcons, the Dallas Cowboys would be all and three.
(06:00):
So when I look at what's going on there, and
Dak Prescott is impressive, Yes, impressive numbers. He's throwing for
a lot of yards, is he because the summers just
saying summer? Some are are like you, and I agree
with you. I think he's been impressive. Others are like, uh,
but he still can't win or he's not. I get that,
(06:20):
But I'm just talking individually, right, Dak Prescott is almost
close to seventy percent of a completion percentage eleven hundred
and eight almost twelve hundred yards in three games, eight
point three yards a completion, right, four hundred and twenty
yards a game, right, five touchdowns, two interceptions, those in
three weeks. Those are tremendous numbers, right, right, But what
(06:43):
happens is the Dallas Cowboys are built to run the football.
They always have been built to run the football. That's
why they gave Ezekiel at ninety something million dollars. So
when you don't do that and you do open it
up and air it out like they're you know, Dak
Prescott loves to do this, the problem is your defense
(07:05):
isn't good enough to sustain that. The more your defense
is on the field, the worst hit will be for you.
Dallas has been behind trying to play catch up in
these games because their defense is having problems stopping people.
How do you alleviate that you run the football, you
(07:25):
win the time of possession, you control the down and
distance with the running game. When the Dallas Cowboys aren't
doing that, this is the result a one and two start.
Does Mike McCarthy not see that? Because I agree with
you totally. We got a good running game. Let's keep
(07:45):
our defense off the field because our defense is horrible.
That's why they're one into The defense is atrocious. When
your best player hasn't played football in four years, when
your best defensive lineman hasn't played football in four years,
then I'm speaking of Alden Smith, like you have to adjust.
(08:09):
Do you have to be like, okay, well, hey, Alda
Smith has four sacks, right, nobody else on the team
has more than one, and only two other guys have one.
Think about that. Someone you know and your highest paid
player doesn't have one on the defensive side, DeMarcus Lawrence.
(08:32):
So when you know these things as a coach, you
have to say, hey, look, we have to number one,
give our defense extended time to rest, recover and make adjustments.
But here what I gotta ask you, and I guess
maybe you answered it in that they're getting down early
and they gotta throw. But dak is leading the league
(08:53):
in past attempts. Is that? Like I said, it's not
Mike McCarthy being a dufus. It's the fact that their
defense just they get in the hole and then you
gotta throw. Is that it? What happens is when both
sides of the room, meaning offense and defensive sides, are
(09:14):
not on the same page. You get this right. You
get an offense that's let's go, let's go. Where Ferrari,
let's go, let's go, let's go. And then you have
a defense which is a station wagon, you line a
Ferrari in the station wagon up on the freeway. The
station wagion's not gonna be able to keep up with
the Ferrari right right. So instead of everybody just getting
(09:36):
in the station wagon and going together, offense is off
and running. We're doing it. We're gonna put the ball
up in the air. Dak Prescott had four hundred and
seventy some yards last game, right right. Of course they
needed him to do that, but there were times in
that game where they could have seized control of the
game and they didn't. That's the problem. It's like, look, hey,
(10:02):
we get it. We understand that that was the one
possession game because on the opposite it's Seattle. Now we
know that Russell Wilson is racking up all these touchdowns
fourteen and three games, unbelievable, a record fourteen. He is
(10:22):
eighteenth in the league in past attempts. He's got forty
fewer pass attempts than Dak Prescott. And I'm looking at
Pete Carroll the opposite. I'm not saying he's gotta throw
fifty times a game, but he should be throwing more.
This is what we're talking about with let Russell Cook.
(10:43):
This is a tangent. I don't want to get away
from the Cowboys, but I'm just saying, like, sometimes I
don't get it. You brought up having the defense and
the offense on the same page. How uncommon is that
where they're not on the same basis. Obviously it's the
head coaches to make sure that their philosophies are uniformed.
(11:06):
But how common is it You bring up a good point,
I mean, you would it seems like they're not communicating.
It happens. That happens. That happens, and you can tell
the teams that aren't on the same page. When you
watch New England, you know that they're on the same page.
Right when you watch a team like New England, you
(11:26):
watch a team like Kansas City. Remember a couple of
years ago, Kansas City's defense was terrible. Ye, right, they knew.
Kansas City knew right, we gotta put the ball and
that we have to outscore our opponents. Right. So when
you when you know when you don't recognize the deficiencies
in your football team on either side of the ball,
(11:47):
or even special teams, because you need all three to
really be successful, when you're not addressing those issues, when
you don't come into the offensive team room or install
room and be with the OC and say, hey, look
this is what we have to do. All right, we
gotta run this ball. We have to manage to clock,
we have to we have to eliminate the time that
(12:11):
our defense spends on the team on the on the field. Right,
all of these things go together. You can't have one
without the other, or even attempt to navigate that without
understanding who you are as a team. That's on McCarthy.
To me, it is, of course, it all starts with
the head coach. Of course, yes it does. Now, now
(12:36):
I would say this before we move on, I'll tell
you this. Now. They just got rid of Jason Garrett, right,
his not was he's not always dialed in, right, excuse man? Right,
So now they bring him McCarthy. Just one a super Bowl.
He's had success, right, what's gonna happen? Now? They lose
(13:00):
to the Browns this weekend, which is possible. I think
I think Dallas will win, but it is possible. I
think they win a close game. But you're right if
but you know what, I think it'll be on Jerry
because Jerry brought in the guy that he could dictate
things too. It's all on Jerry. You brought in a
(13:23):
guy he could dictate two and this is what you're getting.
And I'm not I'm not gonna get down on Mike
McCarthy just yet, but you're right. It's off to a
strange start and it's got to get better, all right,
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. Your turn to
weigh in. Here's the question. Does Dak Prescott have it
(13:45):
backwards when he says he wants the Cowboys to stick
with the explosive offense and let him air it out
week after week. Would they be better off just handing
the ball to Zeke. We'll continue the conversation with you.

(14:48):
some calls for the first time the night eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox you can weigh in on
the Cowboys. Do they need to slow down with this
up tempo throw it all around the yard offense that
has left them one and two? And just give the
freaking ball to Ezekiel Elliott. You'll turn away in what
are you thinking? Let's go to Ernie in Louisiana? What's good?
(15:11):
Ernie on the odd couple? What you got? Hey, guys,
thanks for having me on. Look three quick points. I've
been a Cowboys fan since the Ice Bowl nineteen sixty seven.
Good bad Nugli point number two of never wish for
anybody to die, but I will not cry when Jerry
Jones chicks off. Oh Man Wow. Number three. Number three
(15:32):
My favorite football player of all time is Emmitt Smith,
and I think Ezekiel Eli had has hit a wall.
Go back to last year and tell me the last
game he was dominant. That's interesting because if from look,
if you look at the numbers, Ezekiel was, you know,
just as good as usual last year. But in watching him,
(15:54):
I didn't feel like he was as good as usual.
We know he didn't have as many long runs twenty
yards or more, but he just didn't. He wasn't as
intimidating a runner as he had been in the past,
even though the stats said otherwise. Did you see that
or you think he was just as effective as usual? Now,
the perception of him was different, right, Like he had
(16:16):
with thirteen almost fourteen hundred yards four and a half
yard to carry, which he used. That's on par what
he does outside of the year he was suspended for
six games, right, right, So our perception because the Dallas
Cowboys were struggling, it's different when we watch him, right
(16:39):
when they're clicking and everything's going good and they're winning
and he's getting those yards, those same yards he was
getting when they were losing, the perception of him is different, right.
But when you look at the numbers. The numbers don't lie.
He had three hundred and one attempts last year for
thirteen hundred and fifty seven yards. It's one of the
top backs and PERU in the league per rushing average
(17:02):
at five point five. He's one of the top backs
in the league with twelve touchdowns. There's no question. I mean,
there's no question that. That's what I said. I didn't
see the same as if. But yeah, the stat show
he was Perception is reality, yep, yep, and I think
they he's fallen into that category. Thanks Ernie, let's go
(17:23):
to John in Virginia. You're on the odd odd couple.
What you got? Thanks for having me, man, listen. Uh,
you know it's crazy, I'm saying that thing out. I
felt like they were going too slow that first game
when they capped tempo um. I think that that's gonna
be to their advantage. Now, I hear your point that
(17:46):
you're trying to make about them running the ball. If
somebody's up fourteen points, that is knocking the run game
out of the equation. And we are being we're behind
so much so many games or you know, three games.
We get that, we get that, but can they come
out and try to establish the run, because they got
(18:07):
to keep that defense off the field. Right. So so
this is my thing. I would not worry about the defense.
The defense is gonna be what it's gonna be. I
think that you just got to try to put points
on the board, and you know, you know, hope for
a few things going your way. Just air the damn
thing out. You got a bunch of weapons, like I'm saying,
air it out, like if I'm gonna die, that's how
(18:29):
I want to go down fighting. If you try to
run that boall that the clock can work against you too.
So if they're going up fourteen, thirteen, six, nine points
and you're trying to run it because you want to
establish zeke, you are you are taking away your very
own momentum as an offensive juggernaut. If you will, well, John,
(18:51):
I'll say this when that happens, right, Say you are
down fourteen and you come out in that third series.
Let's say it's the third time you have the ball,
you're down by two scores and you go three and out.
You throw three incomplete passes, are three passes that don't
get ten yards, and your defense has just been ran
(19:12):
through and you put them right back on the field.
There in lies the problem, right. You can't be ineffective
on defense and spend more time on the field on
defensively as a team, So you have to be able
to balance that out with prolonging drives and eating up time,
(19:34):
giving that defensive time to rest. All right, it is
the I couple, Chris and I from Salim is in
for Rob Parker. We got trolling or rolling with Martin
White's coming up. But first here's Steve de Sager with
the update. Steve, a couple of program notes. The two
National League Division Series best of five start on FS
(19:54):
one Tuesday from the State of Texas, and it's college
football tomorrow on Fox TV, and Big Noon Kickoff will
have an exclusive announcement related to the PAC twelve football schedule.
Big Noon Kickoff is every Saturday, ten am to noon
Eastern on Fox TV. We've got Game two of the
NBA Finals coming up in just over half an hour,
and the Heat are missing two starters tonight due to injuries.
(20:16):
So the Athletic reports that Myers Leonard will start for
the Heat and Tyler hero At guard Gore and Dragach
out with a foot injury. Bam At, a bio of
Miami out with neck and shoulder problems. Lakers, the top
seat from the West, dominated Game one of this best
of seven heavy favorites. In Game two against Miami, former
Laker coach Del Harris won the NBA's Chuck Daily Lifetime
(20:37):
Achievement Award. Harris is now eighty three years old. He's
coached in the league or had for over thirty years,
including time as an assistant to the Major League Baseball playoffs.
End of the Wildcard Round in San Diego tonight, it
is the Cardinals scoreless against the Padres in the top
of the fourth. Each team has left four men on base.
The Padres are already onto their fourth pitcher they started
(20:59):
a reliever. Padre are missing two injured starting pitchers this week.
Tonight's winner goes to play the top seed A Dodgers
in a best of five next week. Miami has eliminated
the Cubs. The six seed Miami Marlins win two games
tone at Wrigley Field this week. Today's final was too nothing.
The loss to you Darvish, who allowed two runs in
the seventh. The Baseball writers who vote for Baseball's MVPs
(21:21):
are taking Kennesaw Mountain Landis's name off the future MVP
plaques that they award. The former MLB commissioner never had
a black player in the major leagues during his long
tenure nineteen twenty to nineteen forty four. Back to the
Eye Couple. All right, thank you, Steve. We appreciate that
it is the Eye Couple. I'm Chris Bruce hart I
from Salim is in for Roy Parker. We're coming you
(21:43):
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy
to say fifteen percent or more in your car instures
with Geico. Go to Geico dot com or call eight
hundred and nine four seven Auto. The only hard part
is figuring out which way is easier. All right, it's
time for troll in a rolling with Martin White, Tom Brady,
(22:06):
he's done. Aaron Rodgers did not have a Pro Bowl season.
Trying to get me right. It's trolling or rolland that's right,
it's trolling a rolling. And if Chris and Ephram are
rolling on a good Friday night, you hear the roll
sound when they see you hear Tory I read, and
(22:27):
if they're trolling, you hear the troll sound. Oh man, hey, hey, Saints,
My receiver Michael Thomas is out for a third straight
week as a Lions play as a Lions play the
Saints on Sunday. The Saints have gotten out the slow
starts in season's past, but this one feels a little
bit different. There's been a ton of defensive penalties and honestly,
(22:49):
the offensive side of the ball is terrible. Chris trolling
are rolling the Saints are done in the NFC as contenders.
I'm trolling that. Oh man, Hey, hey, hey, hey, look,
they're not my pick to win the NFC, but can
they make the playoffs and you know, win a playoff game? Yeah? Sure,
(23:12):
I'm not gonna give up on him. After three weeks,
we know they're a different team. When Michael Thomas isn't there,
he is a security blanket one of two for Drew
Brees the other and of course Alvin Kamara, And so
now he's looking for Kamara all the time. When Thomas
gets back, that offense will be better again. I don't
think they're winning the NFC, but I'm not ready to
(23:33):
say they're done and they're gonna be a garbage team
the rest of this year. Well, I'm not gonna say garbage,
but I'm going to roll with that. Um. The problem
I'm having with them is if Tom Brady didn't go
to Tampa Bay, then we would this wouldn't even be
a topic because we'd figured the Saint to be figured
(23:54):
out and and right the ship or whatever. But now
that there's a bona fide team that can win that division,
when you look at the meaning the NFC South, when
you look at the NFC West, you know at least
two of those teams are coming out of that division
and playing in the playoffs. So what does that leave
the rest of the NFC teams? Right? So, what I've
(24:17):
seen from the Saints is very troubling. The fact that
Drew Brees is not throwing the ball down the field
at all at any capacity. It's bringing paulse to what's
going on there? Is that Cliff closer to him this
year than it's ever been before. A couple of Fox
(24:40):
Sports Radio now, guys, if you didn't know by now,
last night proved the Jets are simply the worst team
in the NFL. They'll likely have the number one overall
pick and be the odds on favorites to drive whoever
they want to and everybody thinks it's cleansing quarterback Drevor Lawrence. However,
the Jets are so bad some media members are telling
(25:03):
Lawrence to stay in school and try again next year. Chris,
are you trolling or rolling Lawrence intentionally avoiding the Jets?
I'm trolling it, oh man, hey, hey, hey, hey? Did
Joe Burrow intentionally avoid the Cincinnati Bengals. No, if you're
a ball I get it. Look, Eli Manning did it
(25:25):
and it worked out for him. He got two Super
Bowls with the New York Giants. But no, if you're
a baller, go there and make a difference. I get it.
The Jets are a mess the probably they should and
probably will have a new head coach next year, but
be the guy that can turn that team around. So
(25:46):
I just don't. You don't run. I don't think it's
a good look if you're running from whatever team is
gonna draft you. So I am totally and completely trolling that.
I'm on that as well. Oh man, hey, hey, hey hey.
And and I'm trolling it because when the opportunity presents
(26:08):
itself for you to go and be a high draft
pick and playing on the next levels, your what your
goal is when you're playing at that level, that's what
your goal is. The last thing you want to do
is calls a misstep. Right, we've seen it. Remember, I'm
a good friend of mine. Matt Leiner se hot everything
(26:31):
was going his way. He decided he was going to
go back to school for no reason. I get it, La,
he's the man. We didn't have a pro team at
the time. I always tell the story that he big
tied me at the Laker a Laker game when he
was in college and I was in the league. I
had been in the league for five years already. Um,
(26:52):
but you have to take advantage of those situations. Right,
you're going to be the first pick in the draft.
No way in hell do you go back to school.
You can't improve your draft position. It only gets worse, right,
it only can get you apart more. No, no question
about it, no question tell you what if the Jets
(27:13):
don't have a new head coach. But at least I
started next season, they should be shooting for organizational mouthpractice,
not with you. And the only question really is does
he does he last through this season or maybe this month?
I don't get I don't think there's a benefit to
getting rid of him this early in a season. But
you know, he certainly can't be the coach next year.
(27:35):
I mean unless they have a massive turnaround. I don't
see all right trolling that a couple of the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers are on the two game win streaking. Tom
Brady's been playing well so far, but one of the
know it pain? How much did it pain you to
say that? Because I'm not Rob Parker? He alright? One
(28:02):
of the new England was that Brady didn't have the
weapons to get it done well. Chris Pro Bowl receiver
Chris Godwin and recently acquired running back Winning Fournette are
ball through it out Sunday as splot receiver Scotty Miller
may not be able to go into the growing Mike
Evans came into this season nicked up, Chris trolling a
rolling Tom Brady won't be able to get to win
(28:25):
versus charges without all his weapons that have been disposal.
Who wrote this question, Rob Parker, I'm trolling Parker, I'm trolling. Hey, hey, hey,
now look, first of all, the charges aren't that good.
Although their defense hadn't been bad, Um god Winn and
Miller had been good Miller kind of has surprised us,
(28:45):
but he's been good. Um. But Mike Evans, you know,
is rounded in the forum. They still got the tight ends,
notably O. J. Howard Um. So I think that they'll
be fine in Fournette, who I look, I'm not surprised
by how well Fournette is running the football. I actually
like to see them start making him the feature back
(29:05):
over Ronald Jones. But Ronald Jones is doing well. He's
actually leading them in yards because he's got more carries
than Fournette. But with Jones and the receiving corps, you know,
still a few members of it, they'll be fine. I
think Tom Brady will. We know he can. He can't
do it at forty three on a consistent basis as
far as lifting mediocre skilled position players, but he can
(29:29):
do it every now and then, and I think he'll
be able to hold down to fort until they get
their their start, their top receivers back. I'm trolling that.
Oh man, hey, hey, I'm trolling it because even with
those players out are doubtful, it's still more talent than
he's had in New England the last two years. And
(29:51):
he was fine, right, So you just you look at
it like, okay, if he is missing a couple guys
who are dynamic players. The fact that the cupboard isn't bare,
he's been playing with a bear cupboard. He has some
dishes in there. It's still a plate, it's still a
(30:12):
cup right, He even got a bowl in the cupboard,
so he has dishes to work with when he's setting
out this buffet that he's going to set out in
front of the chargers. So look, it's gonna take more
than that to slow down what Tampa Bay has going
with Tom Brady. There it is. I like it. Ephraim
(30:36):
was right on that one. No, hey, I'll sell y'all.
Don't sleep on the don't sleep on the ball. So
this weekend, there you go. I'll leave y'all with that.
You're picking them, you're picking them. No, he's not to
cover right exactly, all right, that's our man. Martin White's
trolling a rolling keep it locked right here with the
(30:57):
eye cover. We got Bruce Art's five five coming up.
You don't want to miss it. Fox Sports Radio. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with
Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm. Eastern
four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart
Radio app. We're going big. It's go town. It's Brus
(31:22):
Sard's Fab five. All right, this week's five five. There
are five coaching vacancies left in the NBA. Of course,
the Philadelphia seventy six ers just filled one with Doc Rivers. Now,
you know, Doc gets immediate and immediate opportunity to redeem
himself because I'm just gonna keep it real. I was
(31:42):
disappointed with the job he did with the Clippers. And
I'm not just talking about this year. I'm talking about
the seven years. They had big time talent. They should
have been contended for a championship and they never got
past the second round. So he's got a talented team
in Philadelphia. Obviously, he got Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons
(32:04):
and the reports. And I was told myself that they
would have hired Mike D'Antoni had it not been for
Doc becoming available, and they were. They were lucky. We
no't matter what you think of Doc Rivers, he is
much better suited for this Philadelphia job than Mike D'Antoni.
Is D'Antoni would have been a disaster and I'm actually
(32:28):
a Dantoni fan as a coach, but he could only
coach certain types of players. He's a one trick pony
when it comes to coaching. He don't want to big
like Joel Embiid. And what's he gonna do with a
point guard that not only can't shoot but won't shoot.
So we'll see, you know, we'll see how it goes.
(32:48):
Doc's back in the East and let's see if he
can turn Philadelphia into a legitimate contender. But here are
the five jobs, in order from worst to best for
a head coach. Here we go, number five, the Indiana Pacers.
All right, they got rid of Nate McMillan, who had
(33:08):
done a very good job there. Victor Oladipo could be
on the move. He's kind of denied that he wants out,
but there's reports saying that Miles Turner could be on
the move. Where are they going? They're destined for mediocrity, folks,
(33:29):
And so this next job, whoever gets it, you're gonna
be okay. At best, you'll be a second kind of
third tier playoff team, probably make the playoffs, but maybe
a seventh seed, six seed. But you're not competing with
the Phillies and the Bostons and the Milwaukee's to Ronto's
(33:51):
and now Miami and Brooklyn. So that's number five, Number
four Oklahoma City. The good thing is it's a small
market where they're not expecting the championship. I mean, heck,
they had stars running in and out of there, Kevin Durant,
James Harden, Russell Westbrook, all three of them MVPs never
(34:14):
won it, so they were happy. They were overjoyed that
this year's team was competitive, made the playoffs. And that's
the good thing about a small market. You're the only
show in town. They just loved this. When the team
has spirit, tries hard and win some games. So that's
(34:34):
the good thing. You got a great front office in
Sam Presty with running things as the general manager. But
the cupboards fairly. But I mean, I assume Chris Paul
will get traded now if you keep him. You got
the young guy Shade Gilders Alexander, you got Dennis Shrewder
who's very good. They got some talent, but getting rid
(34:54):
of Billy Donovan, I would think that they're gonna move
on from Chris Paul and kind of do a reb build.
So it's a rebuilding job for whoever gets that one
number three. Some people might think this is too high,
but I'm gonna say to Houston Rockets, and I get it.
Houston wants to win a championship. They fired Mike D'Antonio
(35:15):
or moved on from him, and he moved on from
them knowing he wasn't gonna remain there because they want
to win a championship. Being good getting to the second
round is not enough. But the problem is that's not
a championship roster all right. In fact, it's a roster
(35:35):
built for Mike D'Antoni. So you should have brought him back.
You wouldn't have won a title, but you would have
been your best version of yourself. Now, whose school's going
in there with that that squad? I mean, how are
you gonna play? Are you gonna play more small ball?
What coach out there is gonna totally go small with
that group? You do have a GM that'll make moves
(35:58):
and Darryl Morris, so maybe he changes up the roster
a bit. But Russell Westbrook and James Harden, as great
as they are, I think you're gonnaly play certain ways
with them. So but the positives though and wise. Number
three is that you do have stars. I need talent.
You need talent. And James Harden is great. We can
(36:23):
talk about his playoffs struggles here and there, but he's great,
all time great. And so is Russell Westbrook with all
his flaws. So at least I've got talent in Houston.
I'm gonna be relevant. I'm going to be in the playoffs.
I'm going to be fun to watch. Number two the
New Orleans Pelicans. All right, this one's interesting. Another small market.
(36:47):
You're not expected to win the championship, but you are
expected to get to the playoffs in a tough Western conference.
Now I've got some talent. Drew Holiday, Linzo Ball, Brandon Ingram,
obviously Zion and look enough for the lol freaking management.
He's what twenty years old? The new coach has to
(37:10):
establish the culture. And if you're twenty years old and
you you're not injured, but you can't play regularly, there's
a problem. They're denying, there's a problem training staff. He's okay,
he's fine, then play him. And that's what I'm saying
in my interviews. If I'm a coach with the New
(37:32):
Orleans Pelicans, So it's it's fraught with some difficulties, no doubt,
but you've got young talent. You got Zion Ingram. I mean,
he got some talent there. So that's why New Orleans
is number two, number one. Look, some might disagree because
(37:54):
they got some issues, but the LA Clippers is the
best job out there. Why, in the words of the
great Herman Edwards, you play to win the game, or
I'm muna say it, you play to win the ring.
And they do have championship contender talent. Now they gotta
(38:16):
make some changes. They got chemistry issues. Will Paul George
be back, We'll see, Will Mintras, Harold Lou Williams and
and and crew be back, We'll see. But whatever the case,
they've got talent. You got one of the top five players.
I don't care what that he struggled at the end
of that Denver series. Kawhi Leonard is a top five
(38:39):
player period the end. And so when I go to
the Clippers, I know that I can win. I gott
achieve that has a chance to win a championship. I've
got an owner that will spare no expense to do it.
What else do I need? What else am I asking for?
That's enough for me. That's why the clippers is the
(39:01):
top job. And if you don't have the guts, if
you don't have the heart, if you don't have the
testicular fortitude to want that type of job, then don't
bother applying. Stay out of my face. But if you do,
let's see what you're made of. It's the eye couple.
(39:23):
That's Bruce Arts five five one hour left. Keep it locked.
