s R. You're listening to Fox Sports RADIOH yeah, wow
with Chris and Rob out No no, no no, how'd
(00:46):
that get in there? I guess it is. It is
The Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker and
Aaron Torres for mister Chris Broussard. Chris is a little
under the weather and hopefully he will be back with
(01:07):
us on Monday. But it is a funky flashback Friday
here on Fox Sports Radio, and we're coming to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen percent of more on your car insurance.
Visit Geico dot com for a free ray quote. And
(01:29):
what a show we have for you on this Friday.
You know, I've been in the parking lot since the
Thursday night football game ended. I've been waiting to jump
in and be on the radio. So I've just been
hanging out waiting for the show. But we will talk
with Tory Gurley, the former NFL wide receiver and NFL
analyst in the first hour of the program our number
(01:52):
two trolling or rolling with Martin Weiss. That's always a
lot of fun. And Lamar Mitchell, of course from the
MGM Grham Race and Sports book. He's the director there.
Will get into the picks for this weekend in football
an hour of course, pigskin picks. But welcome in Aaron
(02:14):
Torres filling in for Chris Bussard. How are you, Aaron,
Rob Parker. I'm doing really well, man. I appreciate you
having me, as you said, I hope Chris is well.
And I'll just say this, you know, I just I'm
just worried that with Tom Brady playing the way he
did last night, Leb, I don't know if we're gonna
have enough to talk about today. And I know you're
so passionate about both guys and you're such a big defender.
(02:35):
I don't know what we're gonna even talk about for
the next three hours. You know what shows over, We're done.
I don't have anything. I'm empty nothing, huh No, We'll
get plenty of course to do that. So much stuff.
You're right, Aaron, to talk about so much going on.
Of course, the Lakers could wrap up the championship Tampa
(02:55):
and the Yankees a game five when it goes home,
I mean, loser goes home, you know. So those are
all great things on The Doctor tonight, Let's welcome in
the odd couple crew. We wouldn't be able to do
this fine radio program without them. Of course, Rob g
is our producer, Alex is our engineer, and mister Steve
(03:16):
de Seger is at the anchor desk and he'll keep
us updated throughout the program. But Aaron Torrez, you know what,
let's kick it off with Thursday Night football in a game.
I think a lot of people thought, well, of course
the Bucks are gonna win. Tom Brady was the NFC
Offensive Player of the week. Didn't you see those five touchdowns? Right?
(03:36):
I got I got news for you, Tom Brady, I
bet is rethinking his retirement to Florida and his early
Bird special and his Senior Citizens discount, because you know what,
he's starting to look more like he made a mistake
the same way Michael Jordan suited up for the Washington Wizards.
(04:01):
I don't know about you. We watched the game. What's
the difference between Jamis Winston and Tom Brady. There's a
reason the Bucks haven't made the playoffs in twelve years.
And it wasn't just Jamis Winston, as everybody said, Oh,
you gotta lick it all the weapons. Once tom Brady comes,
(04:22):
that'll be it'll be all over. Oh my god, look
at all the weapons. They won't be able to stop them.
And now tom Brady's probably thinking to himself, what they
have eleven penalties of sloppy game. They're asking Tom Brady
to throw the ball down field and do stuff that
that's not really his game anymore. Let's just be honest.
(04:44):
He was over for six for passes of twenty yards
or more, and then he had the senior moment where
he didn't know it was fourth down or not. They
could cover it up all they want. It looked like
he had a senior moment and on wasn't sure what
was going on. And then you know, out of the
corner errand of his left eye, he's looking at New
England going, what during the mix, they haven't fallen off
(05:08):
a cliff. They picked up cam knew he didn't even
play last week. Still played a good game. They lost,
but they're right in the mix to win the division
and they haven't gone away. So I'm looking at this saying,
if I'm Tom Brady and I'm looking at Bruce Arians,
another guy hadn't had a winning record in five years.
You know, let's get Cronk back. Cronk's not the same guy.
(05:31):
I could go on and on and on about Tampa
Bay and about Tom Brady. He ain't that guy anymore.
People just yeah, it's okay. Look at the wins who
they beat up on. They haven't beaten anybody. That would
have been a big win. To go to Chicago and win.
Tom Brady had the time, he couldn't been could have
(05:53):
made something magical happened. All he needed was a field goal.
He's the king of setting up field goals. Go ask
Adam Venati. And all those championships they won early in
the Patriots are history. All I'm saying is, if you're
a Bucks fan and you thought it was a done
deal and Tom Brady was gonna win twelve or thirteen games,
(06:15):
guess again. Tom Brady's wearing a Washington Wizards uniform. Just
like Michael Jordan did. And guess what, Michael didn't make
the playoffs in those two years in DC, even though
sixteen of the thirty teams make the playoffs. Aaron the floors, George.
(06:39):
First of all, that was phenomenal. I don't expect anything
less from you. I know you were rehearsing it in
your car about eleven thirty Eastern time last night. So
I'm impressed. But now listen, I agree with you, and
I think to me as somebody who I have no
real skin in the Tom Brady thing, like I do
think he's the best quarterback of all time. But I
also do think that it was impossible not to see
(07:01):
that the skills were eroding in New England. And so
I think you hit on all the big topics. Is
you look at this Bucks team. One who have they beaten,
A bad Carolina team, a bad Denver team, the Chargers
when they were down double digits late in that yass
And I'm just sitting here saying, and you know, it's
like the other thing is, oh, well, you know Chris
Godwin was out O J. Howard. You know at some
(07:21):
point you got to put a team on your back
and lead them to victory if you're one of the
elite quarterbacks in the league. And when I watched that
game last night, they got off to a hot start.
They were up thirteen nothing, that should be a win
with Tom Brady. Well then that's what I'm saying is
you know, and I never claim to be a football
XS and O savant, but you hear all the time
about these quarterbacks that they're great on script, they know
(07:44):
what they're doing out of the gate. But what can
you do when the defense has adjusted to what you're doing. Well,
we saw it last night. Three field goals over the
final three quarters of the game. They lose twenty nineteen.
He doesn't put up a touchdown after early early in
the game, early in the first quarter. And to me,
even as I watched that game, not even knowing that
I was filling in for Chris today, I was sitting
(08:04):
here saying, like, how many quarterbacks in this league would
I take over Tom Brady right now? Because it is
a significant amount Rob of course, I'm serious. Like, and
you don't think Aaron that he's looking at the Patriots.
You know something, he took the money went to Tampa.
There were only two teams that offered him a contract,
(08:25):
Aaron for a reason. He's a forty two year old quarterback. Right,
forty two or three? Did he turn forty three year
old quarterback? And the two teams that offered him a
deal were the Chargers and the Bucks. Right, that was it.
Who wouldn't want a guy who won six Super Bowls? Wow,
(08:48):
he's forty three years old, that's the problem. And that
was a game up thirteen nothing. Wait when the show started,
Rob g yesterday, you remember Chris all giddy like a schoolgirl.
You remember when it was ten nothing like his skirt
blew up or something, and he was like, oh, look
(09:08):
at him me, tom Brady, Look that's the team I
picked the go to the Super Bowl. No wonder Chris
was in pain last night after watching that. I mean,
come on, and people say, oh, you're just picking on
Tom Brady. No, there's a reason. And Jamis Winston. Everybody
(09:30):
thought it was just him aeron him. I right or wrong,
it's Jamis Winston and the interceptions did Jamis play last night?
Don't think so? No, No, I don't think it's as
automatic as some people thought it was. And I picked
(09:52):
before the season that they wouldn't make the playoffs. Do
you know what the Bucks record was last year? After
five games, what with the terrible Jamis Winston, they were
two and three and they got and they're three and
two this year. Oh my, what a difference Tom Brady's made. Wow.
I can't believe that they're three and two with wins
(10:17):
over lame NFL teams. You just said the schedule, Aaron,
what what win? Was impressive to you? That they beat
the Chargers, who have one win this year? That that
was the one that got him the offensive play NFC
Offensive Player of the Year of the week. What was
that It? That's when everybody said, oh yeah, oh see
(10:39):
there he is. He's unbelievable. He's the goat. Ain't nobody
was saying that last night. I don't disagree with you, Rob,
I don't disagree with you. And the crazy thing is
the other thing too, which cannot be understated in this situation,
is exactly what you said a minute ago about the
Patriots looking good. I know it's easy to say. You know,
they lost the case seen by double digits last week off.
(11:01):
They were in that game until the very end, and
that was with Brian Hoyer, third string quarterback Jared's or
you know, second third string quarterback, Jared Stidham, second string quarterback,
flip flopping. They don't get any quarterback play. But the
defense looks good. The skill position guy Sony Michelle and
all that, they have played well, and I think that's
part of it too. And then they you know what, aeron,
they should have beat Seattle. They were at the one
(11:23):
yard line. You remember the end of that game, they
with Cam Newton at the one yard line. Nine out
of ten times, you're gonna win that game, and they
didn't win. They should have one more win. I don't disagree,
and I think and even as I was watching the
game last night, I was thinking, it would be so
easy to just play up this narrative of oh, Brady's
gonna win the divorce, and I think Belichick's win in
(11:46):
it because Belichick, like you said, I understand that Buffalo
is good. But first of all, we haven't seen Buffalo
against New England yet, so we'll see how Buffalo handles playing,
you know, Bill Belichick and all that. But I look
at New England and like you said, like I said,
they've been petitive in all their games against better competition.
They had the Chiefs, by the way, flew into Kansas
(12:07):
City the day of the game, and it's a one
possession game in the fourth quarter. Like at a certain point,
we gotta admit that. Like one first of all, the
other thing that drives me crazy about Brady is we
keep well Chris Godwin wasn't playing well, Leonard fod come on, man,
But Patrick Mahomes doesn't deal with injuries. Lamar Jackson doesn't
deal with it. Everybody. Aaron Rodgers is four no is
(12:27):
two best receivers aren't playing. How about that, Arran. It's
exactly what I was gonna say. That's exactly where I
was gonna go. Next, Russell Wilson. You just go on
and on down the list, and so Breeze, Thomas right
didn't play. He's another guy that he's been missing for
the most of the year. Come on, you can't use
that as an excuse. Now, I agree hundred percent. And
I just look at it as I just don't know
(12:49):
how you could watch last night. And like I said,
I'm not as passionate about Brady as you are, and
I was kind of more towards the Chris Brussard camp.
If I did think he would be really good with
all these weapons. And I think you're right. I think
it was easy to point the finger at Jamis Winston.
I think thirty interceptions certainly did not help the situation.
But are If you want to just talk about playing
it safe, whatever, that's one thing. But if you're talking
(13:12):
about improving at the quarterback position, I just don't know
that they have done it with Tom Brady this year.
This offense looks stale, looks stagnant. To your point, Brady
looks forty three years old. I expected more, not just
in the win loss, but in how he would look
in this offense with all these guys. All right, eight
seven seven ninety nine off Fox, All you Brady apologists
(13:34):
line up. I'm gonna have you for lunch and for dinner.
That's right. I've been telling you that about Tom Brady.
He needs some Golinko. What is that for memory loss?
I think that's what he needs. Yes, all right? Has
Tom Brady been a disappointment thus far in Tampa? Would
(13:59):
the Bucks have the same Rikord right now with Jamis
Winston instead of Brady. We'll continue that conversation with you next.
It's the odd couple with Aaron Torres in for Chris
Brussard right here on Fox Sports Radio. But first be
sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple with
Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern

It is The I Couple, Fox Sports Radio on a
funky flashback Friday. Wow, Rob Parker and Aaron Torres in
for the ill Chris Brussard. Hopefully he'll be back on Monday.
And it's October, not September. And what does that mean, Well,
(14:44):
it's Geico ween. Of course, don't be spooked by high
rates on car insurance. Geico is brewing up spell binding
savings that they're crafting just for you. See how much
you could save. Get a quote today at guy go
dot com. I'll telephone number eight seven seven ninety nine
(15:04):
on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty three
sixty nine. And I'm just not convinced that Tom Brady
has made as big of a difference as people thought
he would. And you know that they had all these
weapons and all they had to do was add Tom
Brady stir and they would going to the super Bowl.
That's what everybody was saying last night up thirteen, nothing
(15:28):
to the Bears, and they wind up taking the l
So we love to hear from you, Aaron. We got
people ready to chime in. Mark and Sacramento. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Go ahead, Mark,
what's going on? Guys? What's happen? Hey? Rob, You and
me go at it all the time on things we
don't agree on, and boy we go added like a
couple of rock Wilders. But on this one, you and
(15:50):
me being lockstep for a whole year on his Brady stuff,
and he ain't Brady. He's Tom bunching the Billy got
that dudes That dude dudes are man. I'm gonna tell
you he can't make those throws we talked about and
I saw last night, even though they may not have
got a lot of sacks the Chicago Bears, every time
he threw the ball, he was getting up off the
ground and Khalil Mack was knocking the hell out of him.
(16:13):
I just this is gonna happen all year. Tom Brady
is not gonna make them this team they think he is.
And the longer this season goes, the more he's gonna
get hit, the more that Arm's gonna turn the spaghetti
when it gets at the end of the year. This
might not turn out to be where they even make
the playoffs. I'm gonna say it right now, because if
he gets hurt, there's nothing behind him. He can't run.
(16:36):
Today's quarterbacks can get out of the way. That dude
is dead meat, no doubt. Great call eight seven seven
ninety nine on five Richard and Oregon. This is the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. Go ahead, Richard, Oh hey,
what's up? Rob No good. I've been listening to you
guys his podcast every morning for like two years. This
(16:57):
is first time I'm calling in. Wow, actually and actually
listening to the show live. Thank you that I thought
I was listening to h Vio the barbershop. The way
you guys keep a green though. Funny, that's fun. That's
a good joke because on Lebron's show, you know, every everything,
(17:17):
they all agree with everything. He says, you're right, Well,
I mean, are we wrong though, Richard? Right? Where are you? Yeah?
You gots are wrong. You gotta you gotta keep a
fact that it was a COVID offseason. He was working
out every day, he was breaking the law to get
workouts in. Yeah, but he wasn't working with the with
the full squad, with his line and everything. I see. Uh,
(17:39):
we'll hold the phone until week thirteen fourteen. All right.
All I know is that they're not that much better
than when they had Jamis Winston a year ago, and
everybody said he was the problem. Well, yeah, sorry, Robert,
I mean to cut you up, but you can't say
that he didn't get He worked out more than probably
any quarterback with his wide receivers this offseason with that
tea beach. Wow, doesn't he have some of his own
(18:02):
trainer and nutritionists and all kinds of all this stuff.
Tom's supposed to be different from everybody else. Don't you
remember though he was working out in the park illegally,
Remember all those guys in the park. So anyway, Josh
in Texas, you're on the odd couple. Go ahead, Josh,
hey man, thanks for having me on. Guys. I just
want to say, Rob, you had this from day one, brother,
(18:24):
and that joke you said was the funniest joke I've
ever heard about Tom Brady. Which one and the one
where he said they had to move the field next
to the right I said, they moved their practice facility
to the cemetery ryot the best joke I've heard on
Tom Brady. Hey man, But the way he claimed last
(18:44):
night garbage Jamie's I think would have been able to
look down the fiegle take the shot and hit some
of the shots. He missed like three three guys last night,
and I just looked at it, said, man, that's not
what they signed up for, no doubt about it. Thanks
for the call. Appreciate it. Eight seven, seven ninety nine
(19:07):
on Fox. If you want to chime in, Luca and Baltimore,
you're on the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio. Go ahead, Luca, Hey, guys,
what's up. What's happening to be back on the show.
I love it, Thank you, buddy. Well, first of all,
I want to say, Rob, I look forward to your
It's so quiet tweets every single time. It's the funniest
(19:27):
stuff and I don't always agree with it, but I
love it. Well, I appreciate it. Yeah, people people look
forward to it, so I'm gonna keep doing it. And
people don't like it, oh well, it's all good. Everything's funny.
It's all jokes. But no, I mean about Brady I
thought yesterday was the perfect microcosm of why this is
(19:49):
not working. I mean, forget about how awful he played
up until the last drive. But the last drive a
man of thirty plus left on the clock, no time out.
That's why you got Brady at least supposedly, and he
still couldn't deliver. If I wanted somebody to forget about
the downs account, I would have kept Jamis so now.
(20:09):
I mean, and that was it where they didn't need
a touchdown. All they needed was a field goal to
win that game. And that would have been a great
win against the Bears right at home, and they were
up thirteen nothing Aaron and wind up losing. That was
winds up being a bigger win now for the Bears.
And they're four and one and they're rolling. They were
(20:31):
in the you know, they're not buried by Aaron Rodgers
and the Packers who were four and old. They're right
in the race to win the division at four and one.
So all right, we'll dive deeper into this topic with
former NFL wide receiver Tory Gurley. He joined us next.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports
(20:52):
Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app search f
SR to listen live. Our guest is coming up. Tory Gurley,
former NFL wide receiver, an NFL analyst, and a friend
of the show. Tory Gurley, Welcome to the Eye Couple. Hey,
what's going on? Fellas? How are you? I'm good man?
(21:16):
How about you? How about yourself? Better than Tom Brady?
I'm telling you that that's how I feel. And yeah, well,
I just want, like I've been saying this, I didn't
pick them to make the playoffs because everybody made it
like it was all Jamis Winston's fault. We saw some
things last night about the Bucks, all the penalties, and
(21:38):
you know, and and and Bruce Arian wants Tom Brady
to throw the ball downfield, uh, instead of Dinkon and Duncan,
which is what he's mostly been doing. What did you
make of what happened? And then he had a senior
moment at the end of the game and didn't know
how many downs there were. I'm completely shocked, to be
honest with you. That's something that's always been button up
(22:00):
in the New England organization. And that's something that we
as fans and probably him as a player that's taken
for granted, and you know, being out there with Bruce
Aaronson Tampa, it really didn't work out the way it
was supposed to. Yet at Khalil Mack breathing down his
back the entire game, like you can feel the anxiety
and how flustered he was because this left tackle is
(22:20):
getting beat up. And you know that that last drive.
I was just shocked to see Tom go out there
and make a mistake that even the Cleveland Browns don't
even make. Like I watch all the Cleveland games and
I've yet to see one of the hundred quarterbacks to
do that for Cleveland during a two minutes drill. So
I you know, it really took everyone, took everyone off
guard to see such an established player, you know, make
(22:40):
a mental error like that, Tor, And that was what
I was going to ask you next, is how much
of this is do you think that Tom Brady some
of that? I guess the only word to use is
buttoned up, you know kind of professional organis you know,
the organizational things that are so make New England so
successful in terms of the professionalism, all the things that
we just talked about, are you surprised how it seems
(23:02):
to be going the opposite direction because we thought Tom
Brady that leadership was going to be an X factor
in that locker room in Tampa Bay. Yeah, I just
want to make sure he hasn't been hanging out with
j R. Smith. Obviously Jr Is on Orlando in the bubble.
But you know, to see someone make an error like
that in such a big game, you know, it was
just kind of you know, it took everyone off guard.
(23:23):
And with him, you know, and being away from New England,
it just shows like how Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniel
have been able to spoon feed him a lot of
information to make the game a lot easier for him
to play at a high level. And with him being
with Byron Leveridge and Bruce Arians sometimes it shows that
these guys are not as well equipped as you know,
(23:43):
the mad genius up in Foxborough. What did you make
of I'm curious the Cleveland Browns and what they did
to Dallas, And you know, Cleveland has three and one,
would a chance to you know, win again and and
maybe let people know that it didn't happen for them
last year. Remember everybody was on that bandwagon last year
(24:04):
and they didn't make the playoffs. Is this team good
or is this fool's goal? What are we watching with
the Browns? Honestly, it's to be continued, you know, watching
them beat up on Dallas. I really can't pound my
chest about that because everybody is beating up on Dallas
when they come to getting stats. Like if you if
you're in a contract gear or if you're trying to
look good in fantasy, just play against the Dallas Cowboys
(24:27):
and they can make him into an household name. I mean,
Odell Beckham is still claiming that one hand catch from
like seven years ago, and now he was able to
bounce back again with taking a reverse to the house
and having Jarvis Landry to hit him, uh you know,
on a creative play to hit him in the back
of the end zone as well. So this week is
going to be a huge test for him because watching
(24:49):
the Indianapolis coach play against the Bears, they were able
to really stop the Bears and make them look pedestrian offense.
So on Sunday, with the state of all Hi or
even allow more fans in the stadium, we'll see if
that this will be a real test for the Browns
coming up on Sunday, so it would be something that
you know, I'll reserve my judgment until after the game. So, Tori,
(25:10):
you talked a lot about Tom Bradyman and go I
want to go to his former team, New England. You know,
I think that it's easy to look at the final
score against KC. They lose by sixteen, but it was
a one possession game middle of the fourth quarter without
Cam flying in on the day of the game. Just
in general, how impressed have you been with New England
because the fall off or lack thereof really has been
(25:32):
a little bit surprising to me. I'm very impressed with
New England. I thought that, you know, just like some
media members said they were going to tank to get
Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. But literally, these guys are
in the take of everything of winning the winning the
division and the performance they put up against the Kansas
City Chiefs. If Brian Horrier was able just to keep
(25:55):
his composure and not turn the ball over, it it
was a football game like literally, they had the Chiefs
exactly where they wanted them. So now you know, if
the Patriots continue to handle business and and win a
Division as expected. You know, they all see Kansas City,
to see Kansas City again, and barring no injuries, I
think they have a shot to really knock the champs
(26:17):
out of the playoffs because we watched him do with
Brown Horrior and now you have Cam Newton at quarterback
and you get stuff on Gilmore backing everyone else. Man,
It's just something that really has given Andy Reid and
Patrick Mahomes fits since he's been in the NFL. Our
guest is Toy Gurley, the former NFL wide receiver and
(26:38):
NFL analysts here on the Odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio,
and it's official now Justin Herbert is the Chargers new
starting quarterback. Was that the right move, right time to
make this happen. I think that was a great move
for him. They had so many injuries on the offensive line,
and I'm just kind of shocked by Tyrod Taylor. You know,
(26:58):
I've always been a big and of him, especially of
Virginia Tech. How he was able to take over games
and look like you know, Michael Vick Junior and CSUS
has been in the NFL, he's taking more of a
conservative approach. So having someone like Justin Herbert to come
in and perform under pressure with five minutes knowing that
he's gonna be a starter against the Kansas City Chiefs,
(27:19):
throwing him in a fire. He performed extremely well and
watched him do watching him having a big game against
Tampa Bay last week and putting up thirty one down
there in Tampa, I've been truly impressed and I think
moving forward it can give us the team something to
lean on because the guys a ballplayer. I didn't believe
in him that organ, but he's making me a believer
believer each and every week he goes out on a
(27:40):
feeling compete. We saw Bill Bill O'Brien obviously loose's job
this week unfortunately be honest with a story. How long
does dan Quinn have left to be honest with you?
Everybody at home and d Post should feel okay, because
you know, I've seen people spill paint, steal stuff out
of the store and they say anything. I used to
(28:01):
work at home Depot a long time ago before I
played football, and they were like, just blame it on
lost prevention. But now seeing dan Quinn go out there
and blow leaves in a Super Bowl as well as
blow leaves in a regular season. Um, hey, I think
that's one of the best places to work because you'll
keep your job until the end of the season. But
I think if Atlanta wants to get back to who
(28:22):
what they do best, I think it's time for a shakeup.
I think they should get rid of dan Quinn, bring
in the coach with the with the offensive mind, because
you have all the talent down there. You have Matt Ryan,
you have Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and even Todd Gurley.
So just have an offensive mind and coach that. Uh,
just allow those guys to play ball and be loose.
(28:43):
I would just play it that way, especially if I'm
in the Dome. But dan Quinn, Yeah, he's more of
a dead man walking and eventually he's going to go
to the facility and that key, that that little key
he has isn't gonna work anymore for that parking spot. Yep,
that's how it works out. We got thirty seconds left
to the Cowboys win this week. They're one in three
(29:04):
their season is uh they played that they played the Giants.
Do they have to win this game? Hell no, I
see the Cowboys losing to the Giants. What everyone is
putting a lot of stock and then to bounce back.
I'm pulling for Daniel Jones to go out there and
upset them because it's nothing better than hearing Rob Parker say,
it's so quiet in ballads you can hear Jerry Jones
(29:25):
pissing on a two thousand, twenty championship t shirts. So
I think that's the best way to call it. All right,
we appreciate you. His name is Tory Gurley. Thanks for
the insight to former NFL wide receiver and NFL expert
an analyst. All Right, the New York Yankees have about
three hundred and twenty four million reasons to feel confident tonight.
(29:49):
We'll get into that next. It's the odd couple with
Aaron Aaron Torre, as I said Aaron Rodgers Radio and
for Chris Russar on Fox Sports Radio. Sticking stay America.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports
(30:10):
Radio dot com and within the iHeart Radio app search
f SR to listen live. It is the couple of
Fox Sports Radio on a funky Flashback Friday, Rob Parker
along with Aaron Torres, who's in for Chris Broussard, who's
not the feeling well, hopefully he'll he'll up be better
(30:32):
and be back on Monday. And we're coming to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios and Aaron
right now, do we have an update? What is that? Uh?
Is it still no score right in uh Tampa and
the Yankees game? Right we're going to the top of
the third zero zero heading in the top of the third, correct,
(30:55):
And Garrett Cole is on the mound for the Yankees.
He escaped Aaron in the first innings. You know, a
lot of pictures struggle in the first like really good pictures.
If you don't get them earlier, you never get them,
you know. And they had the bases loaded, a couple
of walks and it hits Batsman and he got out
of it. And this is why the Yankees spent that
(31:16):
boatload of money. You remember when they signed him, right,
Aaron for three hundred and twenty four million, And people
go a nine year contract for a picture, Oh my god,
for all that money, it's ridiculous. No, it's not ridiculous,
because tonight is one of those moments where you need
(31:37):
a guy like Garritt Cole. You need an ace picture
to take the mound and winner takes all right, best
to five series, Aeron, And this is what you have
teams that have to put up, you know, a mediocre
guy and also ran the chances of you winning baseball.
(31:58):
For all the home runs that we see, it's still
about pitching and defense. And if you don't have pitching, Aaron,
You're not winning. You're not gonna win. And uh, you know,
as I look at it, it's funny to me. I
know you know baseball better than anybody. You being a
Hall of Fame voter hosting the podcast. Uh, it's surprising
(32:20):
to me that you say that people were upset that
they thought they paid too much for Garrett Cole. Uh.
You know, one, it's the Yankees. They print money over
there in the Bronx. So you and I are both
from the East Coast. You covered you covered sports in
the Tri State area. I grew up in the Tri
State area. So that's one. But two, you know, when
you get a chance to bring that guy into the
(32:40):
front end of your rotation with the bats that they
have in that lineup, with Stanton who hit a ball
the other night that still hasn't landed yet. What was
that the most ridiculous hole. Yeah, ridiculous, that's what I said.
I said, by the time it landed, the Big ten's
gonna be playing football. So it's still going. But like
to me, like like, this is what sports is about, right. Obviously,
the Lakers are on the verge of winning a championship tonight.
(33:02):
You pay the big bucks to get the guys to
help you win. And for the Yankees, it's been what
a decade since they won their last two thousand and nine.
You know, absolutely, it's been a while, and one of
the biggest things they've had bats Aaron. It's the pitching
that has failed them. And so to go out and
get a guy who's not only a front end of
(33:23):
the rotation guy, but a guy that pitched a lot
of high leverage games in the playoffs last year with Houston,
to me, it's a no brainer. I'm surprised that you
said that people thought he overpaid, because go ahead, just
because of the amount of money and nine years for
a pitcher, you know, what are the chance of him
finishing his career with the Yankees? Seriously, nine years is
(33:45):
a long way to go, and I think that's what
shocked people that's why the Yankees were able to get them.
I think some teams, We're gonna pay him a lot
of money, but for seven years, you know, six or seven,
and they said, oh no, we'll we'll pay for the nine.
We'll take it, so, you know, and and then to
(34:06):
hear the guys say, you know, basically, winna take all
game five, whatever, sign us up. I'm in you know,
like that's the guy you want. So let me ask
you a question, because you follow this stuff so much
more closely than I do. I mean, obviously, I know
the Yankees regular season up and down. They dealt with injuries,
they dealt with all kinds of stuff. But I'm assuming
if they get by this series and they're just a
(34:28):
team that you don't want to face, right because you're
gonna have to do in a seven game series, potentially
face Cole three times plus those bats. Like I said,
I know that the regular season was up and down,
but they strike me as a team that you just
you're hoping Tampa takes them out, even though Tampa was
obviously better during the regular season. Right Tampa beat them,
h they were eight and two, they dominated, but the
(34:50):
Yankees were banged up and they have their whole team
now and if the Bats get going, but Garrett Cole
gives them a great chance. It just comes down to
that when you have and I'll tell you this. Here's
the other one. The flip side is the reason why
the Dodgers having won they've won eight straight National League
West titles, having won a World Series, have been to
(35:11):
two of the last three, but they just haven't. Clayton
Kershaw hasn't been that guy in the postseason, do you
know what I mean? He's been the guy during the season.
But if he was that guy, that same guy that
they had during the season, had he been that guy
in the postseason, the Dodgers might have two or three
World Series I'm not kidding you. And and that's been
(35:33):
the difference. And the Yankees finally looked to say we
haven't one. And I'm talking as I'm as the Yankees.
They hadn't won since two thousand and nine. And here's
the best picture available, and all we gotta do is
pay money. Is that? Is that how we get him?
And you got two sluggers, I mean monsters in the
middle of the lineup, right in the middle of their primes. Yeah,
(35:55):
you go out and pay for Garrett Cole, no doubt
about it. So that game you have a score update.
Still zero. It's still zero zero, third inning. All right,
I couple Fox Sports Radio, our number two is coming up.
Stick and stay America
