Andy Fermin, We're going to the National Football League. Did
you watch Sunday Night Football last night? It was a
big game. That was football, the way football should be played.
(01:11):
When you can't see the lions on the field, because
the snow, that was the way football should be played.
It was the frozen tundra. Indeed, up in Green Bay
Lambo Field. And if you're a sports fan, at some point,
I was fortunate because I worked in Detroit for twenty
years and I used to go up there once a
year because the Lions always played, So I got a
(01:32):
chance to go up there. That should be on your
list as sports venues that you need to get to,
Andy September. Though in September, you don't want to go
in December. No, no, no no, definitely not, but it's worth
the trip. And Andy, I think about this. There's a
Bleachers Report story and the headline says, game over Aaron
(01:56):
Rodgers as NFL's twenty twenty MVP. And we're gonna talk
about Rogers first and then talk about the Packers. But
what a comeback year. You remember what people were saying,
Andy after last year. Remember they got knocked out by
the forty nine ers in the NFC Championship game. They
got embarrassed. They drafted Love right. Everybody was saying they
(02:19):
moved up to get him. If you remember saying that
he was this Rogers was on his way out, that
they didn't want him anymore, that he was overrated and
he was losing his skills. What has the guy done
this year? Incredible? Forty four touchdowns, five interceptions, which is ridiculous,
(02:44):
his career high as forty five touchdowns. He still has
one more game Sunday against the Bears, and some of
the other stuff that he's done has been really what
a bounce back. And we know Patrick Mahomes is a
great quarterback and Aaron Rodgers has beaten him out in
a lot of categories. On Sunday, the Chiefs offense sputtered
(03:09):
and Patrick had two touchdowns one pick, just not a
great day. But Aaron had four touchdowns, one pick, quarterback
rating of almost one twenty and he has the best
quarterback rating in the league. So where are you on
the race? Did before before Sunday did you think Mahomes
(03:29):
was in the league? Do you still think he's in
the league or is Aaron Rodgers indeed, he didn't believe
wrench into this entire thing because, first of all, when
the voting comes out, and I'd like to find out
from voters, I want them to be a little more transparent.
What are the qualifications? I mean, it's in all stats,
is what the team does. Because to me, I gotta
believe and this is my take on it. I think
(03:50):
that Josh Allen has done a hell of a job
with the Buffalo Bills. His statstill matchup anywhere near Aaron Rodgers.
But I think what he has done with that team
is tremendous. I mean, he's completed almost sixty nine percent
of his passes. Aaron is completed seventy percent. He's got
thirty t ds and nine picks. You know, the stats
are comparable. You want to compare. He can't say thirty
(04:10):
and nine or comparable when a guy has forty and five.
I mean that is not that, that's just not common stats.
Forty four touchdowns and he's doing what he's done for
this team. He's turned Oh, I get it. And they're
both eleven and three right, A twelve and three is
a green Bay now green Bay. Right, Buffalo is playing
(04:32):
tonight in the Monday night game against the Patriots. And
I'm not Josh. Allen's had a great year in Buffalo,
and I think he'll got some votes. I don't think
he'll win it. But if I was a voter, I
think I vote fantas see what he has done. He
is real valuable for that team. You know, Aaron Rodgers. Obviously,
without Aaron Rodgers, green Bay goes down the tubes. But
and green Bay and Aaron Rodgers will probably win the
(04:54):
MVP trophy. Is for my money and for my voting,
I vote for Josh Allen. Wow. Don't know how you
could pass up forty four and five. But everybody's different.
I think there's a lot of factors, especially just considering
where Aaron Rodgers and that team was a year ago.
You know, I understand. I think that's Buffalo. Yeah, Buffalo
(05:15):
was in the playoffs. Green Bay was in the playoffs
as well. Both throw another name out there for you
and I'll make your head spin, which I really don't
want to see, but I'll do it anyway. What about
Derreck Henry? You know what he took about a guy
who's the most valuable guy for his team, not comparing
him to league wide people to his team. MVP Derek
glad you. I'm glad you bring him up. And you
(05:36):
know the last running back to win it. I think
it was twenty no no no um was the Vikings
in twenty twelve. Adrian Peterson. Peterson is the last running back.
Remember you had over two thousand yards. Uh. But but
here's the problem. So it has turned into a quarterback
(05:59):
award because because it's a throwing league, right, we know
that but you just bought up Derrick Henry. And here's
a part, here's a reason. I wrote a column today
at deadspin dot com and the headline is the Packers
can win. This Packers team can win the Super Bowl.
And you brought up Derrick Henry as possibly being an
MVP guy and he was held to ninety eight yards
(06:21):
last night first time in ten road games. He had
nine road games in a row where he rushed for
over one hundred yards, and everybody thought that he would
run over the Packers because they're not the greatest against
the run. But this defense is number eight. They have
a quarterback who's playing MVP type football. And if they
(06:45):
win and beat the Bears, they will have the road
to the super Bowl. Will have to go through Green Bay,
where they are very tough in that building, and that
those conditions. I saw a crazy stat that Aaron Rodgers
is fourteen and two against teams over five hundred at
(07:07):
Green Bay in December or something, you know, like when
when you have the cold and bad weather. It's pretty impressive.
Fourteen and two against teams over five hundred. But I
really think the Packers have a shot to win. This
might be one the best team that Aaron Rodgers has
had in some time. They can run the ball. Did
(07:29):
you see the kid last night, the rookie aj Dillon
who had one hundred and twenty four yards College Disney
from his first two NFL touchdowns. They already have Aaron
Jones and Davante Adams. Here's another one, Andy, Are you
ready for this? This is how great of a season
that Davante Adams has had for the Green Bay Packers.
(07:54):
Davante Adams has more touchdowns than like five or sixteen
teams in the in the NFL. And I mean, when
you think about that, that's pretty incredible. Like he has more,
he has sewns, he has more than the Jets. I'm
looking for the list, and of course I just misplaced it,
(08:17):
but when you look at them at the list, it
is just mind boggling, and I do have it. I
just want to read this to you because I think
this is tells you about the year all right. Here.
It is receiving touchdowns Davante Adams versus other teams. Davante
has seventeen, the Panthers have six, team the Jets have fifteen,
(08:39):
Washington fourteen, the Giants have only ten, and the Patriots
only eight and this guy has seventeen. Okay, but I
want to go back to this Derrek Henry situate because
I love watching him play. He's old school, he's tough,
and he takes five guys to gang tackle him to
bring him down. Last night, ninety eight rushing guys. I
get that. I understand two reasons, and he probably would
(09:01):
have had over one hundred. Number one, I think it
was very difficult running on that turf last night. That's
number one. Number two, the Tennessee's playing from behind, that
had to pass the football. He didn't run. No, there's
no doubt about that. But there's no doubt about that.
That's fair. But I'm saying even early on, they weren't
able to get anything going right. And that is the key,
(09:22):
because you have to abandon the run if you get down.
And then the bad weather Aaron Rodgers was able to
put up points. It wasn't like they got stopped the
Green Bay Packers on the flip side, Okay, even with
forty points scored, they had two guys almost had both
both of their running backs with over one hundred yards,
So it didn't stop them from running right, you know, right?
(09:44):
I mean Jones had like ninety four, and then Dylan
I think I'd went twenty five, right, So, I mean
that was a big day on the ground, and Aaron
Rodgers did it in the air. But I'm just curious.
Let's just leave the MVP out of it, but let's
talk about teams in the NFC, and what team do
you think Andy have a legitimate shot? You know, there's
(10:09):
a lot of good players, Russell Wilson and Seattle. There's
Tom Brady in the Bucks. There's New Orleans, you know,
and Drew Brees. There's Green Bay. I mean right there,
I mean four, right there. In my mind, there's three
teams in the in the NFC, and I'm really I'm
really depressed that I thought Arizona early on in the
(10:31):
season might be one of those teams. But they're not that, David,
They're not. They're definitely not I thought they would be.
But the teams that I'm looking at right now Green Bay,
New Orleans, and Tampa Bay. And that's its Seattle. I'm
not so Seattle. You're not feel in Seattle. No, I
don't feeling on their defense, I really don't. And Russell
Wilson in his last ten games last eleven games, whatever
it was, he'sad with eleven tds and eleven turnovers. So
(10:54):
you don't know what you get on a given Sunday
sometimes with these guys. That's the problem with the Green
Bay Packers. I mean they are basically right now the
class of the NFC, closely followed by New Orleans, and
I would have given New Orleans a little bit of
a nudge. But the Sean Payton and the Drew Brees combination,
with Drew coming off those crack ribs, I don't know
(11:14):
how healthy he's going to be down the stretch. And
some people I don't know. I mean their defense at
one point when they ran off those nine games wins
in a row, Andy was as good. They were only
giving up like nine or ten points a game. But
I don't know Drew Brees, I don't know if the
ribs and the puncture long. You know, he didn't have
(11:38):
a good game that their last game out. He didn't
have any touchdowns, a couple of picks. It was all
Alvin Kamar, you know who ran for what six touchdowns?
That was really what it was about, right, But I'm
just saying, at some point you might need your quarterback
to help you out as well. There's no doubt about that.
(11:59):
And right now I think that Green Bay is as
a head over New Orleans. Other than that, Tampa Bay third,
and you know why Tampa Bay. You know, I'll be
surprised if Tampa Bay doesn't go deep in the playoffs. However,
I question Tampa Bay if they have to play in
Green Bay in the tundrad. That's gonna be tough with
those guys. And the other thing too is Tom Brady's
(12:20):
never gotten to a super Bowl where he hasn't had
the home field you know what I mean, where he
goes in as a wild card and not as a
division winner. Do you know that he's never been to
a super Bowl? It's harder when you have to. And
here's the other part that's funny is that Green Bay
and Aaron Aaron Rodgers has never hosted an NFC championship
(12:42):
game since he became a starter. Is that amazing? He's
never hosted one. So this will be big if they
beat the Bears and they're able to have home field
advantage throughout the playoffs. All right, all right, okay, America,
I've got Green Bay. Andy says, it's the Saints. Who
(13:04):
do you have that will represent the NFC in the
Super Bowl. We want to hear from you. Eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine

number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. We want
(14:35):
to know the Packers established themselves last night with a
big measuring stick test against a really good team in
the Titans. They win at forty to fourteen. If they
went on Sunday against the Bears and the number one
seed in the NFL and the NFC, and that men's
teams have to come through Green Bay. Who are you
(14:57):
picking in the NFC? Who do you like? Andy's picking
the Saints. I'm picking Green Bay. We want to hear
from you eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, and
we will right now. We're going to Max, Max and Georgia.
You're on the odd couple right here on Fox Sports Radio.
What do you got? Maxie? Andy? Rob? Pleasure to talk
to both of you guys. What's happened? Rob? I hope
(15:20):
you had a good holiday. Andy, hope you had a
good holiday. I tried to call in, didn't happen, but nonetheless,
appreciate you working. Thank you. I think that I'm with you, Rob.
I'd like to not switch my pick. I picked originally
the the the Ravens playing the Buck. I've got to
switch that. I think it's gonna be a State Farm ball.
We're gonna see old Aaron Rodgers playing old Patrick Mahomes,
(15:43):
and I think it's gonna go down. I think it's
a win win for State Farm, and I think ultimately
Roger's gonna find a way to do it. Packer's gonna
win at all. You know what. I think this is
the best team he's had in a while. They can
run the ball and not one dimensional, and their defense
is better top eight you'll take that, right, And when
was the last time he had a top eight type
defense going in? And then if all the games are
(16:04):
in Green Bay, that's a big advantage. And all they
have to do is win two games to get to
the Super Bowl, right, And I would have gone still
with New Orleans, But I think that the Drew Brees
situation with his injuries, and he did not look good
the other day. He just looked like he was hurting
just even throwing the football. Yeah, no doubt, he didn't
look good. All right, let's move on right now. Brian
(16:26):
in Seattle, you're on the odd couple right here on
Foxblits Radio. Brian, what's up, hey, guys, Thanks for having me, Yes,
thanks for calling him my man. Appreciate you. Hey, I'm
I'm wondering why we don't like the Seahawks. Can I
just want to ask why you guys don't like them?
First of all, I think Carlos is a great addition
for their pass rush, and they got Jamal Adams also
(16:48):
good pass rusher and good pass defenders. So I'm just
wondering why you guys don't like Seattle. We didn't say
we didn't like him. We don't like him enough. That's
the problem. Yeah, I mean, I don't know that there
was a point when the season started where Russell Wilson
was our lights out, was unbelievable, and then the defense
was awful. I don't know. I think that's what why
(17:10):
people fell off of the Seahawks. But they were a
dangerous team. The Packers beat them last year in the playoffs. No,
I know, I'm not saying that. I'm just giving you
some reasons. And I'm saying in this game where Tennessee
needed that game last night against Green Bay to clinch
their division. Right, they're still on they're not they're not
(17:31):
end so they needed that game that was a big
measuring stick, And I think Green Bay looked pretty good
in a big game. I think, yeah. Appreciate you, no
problem eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox Leon in
South Carolina. You're on the odd couple right here on
Fox Sports Radio where they got Leon. What's going on? Rob?
(17:54):
What's going on? Andy? Long time listening to call all
the time? Don't the time that was? Appreciate you, man,
Thank you, no doubt. Well, first and foremost, Rob, I
gotta correct you. You said Tom Brady never went to
the Super Bowl without home for advantage. His last super
Bowl he won. He beat Patrick Mahome and Andy Smill. No, no, no,
(18:18):
I'm talking about he wasn't them. They didn't have they
didn't have home fields all the way right, Yeah, they didn't.
The championship was in Kansas City. No, I remember that.
But I'm saying there's a there's a stat like, oh no, no,
did they what did they do? Did they lose that
Super Bowl? Yeah? They never won one. They never won one.
I think that's the way they beat the Rams. When
(18:39):
they beat the Rams, they beat Eddie Smill. I'll get
the exact I'll get the exact wording. But a right
when he's not number one seed when he's number one seed,
He's never won one. All right, I'm right for the
super Bowl, My super Bowl peak. Tampa Bay, Green Bay
and New Orleans they always go to the playoffs. Drew
(18:59):
Brees Air Rodgers only went to the Super Bowl one
time their whole career. They sell out, they sell ticket,
that's sick. Tom Brady is a goat. And I feel like,
just personally, if everybody played up to their fullest potential
in the whole NFC during the playoffs, Tempa Bay has
that edge just because of the star power. And have
(19:21):
you watched Tampa Bay against Have you watched Tampa Bay
against some of the better teams in the league this year?
I have, That's why I said, to their best potential,
I've watched them without without the penalty. They struggle, the
struggle with who I mean they have. But this is
playoff football, rock, you know, just like I know playoff atmosphere,
(19:42):
everything changes. And Tom, let's believe Tampa Bay wants to
play the super Bowl. And Tampa Bay, all right, I
just I don't see them right now. Not They've been
way too New Orleans twice this year. Yes, they don't
match up well against New Orleans they don't twice. And
then and they beat Green Bays yep, and they lost
(20:03):
to the Bears. Green Bay was up ten nothing. Remember
that Aaron Rodgers had the two picks that the worst
The worst game was when they played the Giants. They
only beat in by two, right, and and and they
had some games where you just looked at it. Tom
Brady didn't even make the Pro Bowl because the season.
That's a joke, because a Pro Bowl stats stats. Well,
(20:24):
they picked they picked Kyler Murray. Who you liked? Eight
seven seven nine Fox, How we move on? We got
Brandon in Dallas here on the odd couple right here
on Fox. Sputs ready when they got Brandon, Hey, what's up? Rob?
What's up? Andy? How are you doing? Doing great? Doing great?
And Rob, thank you again for holding it down this week.
(20:44):
I'm gonna have to messle Chris a little bit about
it next week. Yeah, well, you know, Chris, you know
the big time guy. Two weeks off on the holidays.
I'm good man. I enjoyed doing it. I'm glad I'm here.
We appreciate it definitely. Um And I think what you
were looking for is Tom Brady has never made it
to the Super Bowl without having the first round by
(21:05):
He's never been a wild card and made it to
the Super Bowl. That's what I was looking. I know
that there's without the buy he's never made it. There
you go, Yeah, he doesn't have to. He just hasn't
had to have it all throughout the playoffs. But at
least have to have one one bye week. And it's
not gonna happen this year. I really don't see that team,
even if they're clicking, I don't see them going to
Green Bay and winning in the middle of January. Yeah,
(21:26):
I just don't think they can get that done. And
I don't see the Saints beating them either. You know,
for the Saints to go up there and beat them,
they would have to have Drew Brees. He'd have to
be dealing, you know, he'd have to be dealing that
have to have the running game, and defense would have
to be good. And I just don't think that that
sun at this time of the year, you know. And yeah,
but and the Packers have two did two signature wins.
(21:49):
They went to New Orleans and one on the road
and they beat the Titans. Uh in this game Sunday.
Those are there two Those are two impressive wins because
both of these teams have over ten wins, you know
what I mean, right? And you know I think I'm
siwhat emotional with New Orleans because to me, I think
Drew Brees hangs it up after this year. I'd like
(22:09):
to see him go to the super Bowl in his
last year? Can we squeeze one more? In? Andy? Sean,
Sean and Sacramento. You're on the odd couple on Fox
Sports Radio when he got Sean my all good from
another mother. Man, I've been a long time listener Andy
everything that she was with the Hawk on afternoon radio
when somebody cold pizza with her other network, I've been
(22:30):
thank you. Yeah. So my figure real quick, man is
m I'm with you, Rob. I like Green Bay going
all the way and I also like um, I like
the Chiefs coming out of the ANFC if they could
just stop trying to hit the haunt and off switch all.
But I think you've got it for the wrong reason. Man.
Can you remind me, Rob, where has Aaron Rodgers played
for the last ten years? What do you mean? Where's
(22:51):
he played? And Green Bay for the last ten years? Right? So,
so to me, he doesn't get as much acclaim as
Matt la Floor should be getting all this acclaim he
helped turn that man's career around. Aaron Rodgers looking like
just like Bucky Brooks is saying washed up until Matt
Lafloor claim and resurrected his whole career. You know what,
I disagree? Yeah, I mean, here's one sean for you.
(23:15):
Do you know that they haven't drafted one skilled player
in the first round in Aaron Rodgers' entire career in
Green Bay? How many do they drafted uh in in
in Foxborough? When when the row I'm saying, I'm saying none.
Can you imagine I'm just gonna ask you if you
took Aaron Rodgers with Bill Belichick's defense and you inserted
(23:38):
him instead of Tom Brady, you're gonna tell me he
wouldn't won six of the balls. Nah, I don't see that.
Come on, come on, the clutch fact, it's the clutch
factor championship games. What do you do last year? He
got around? Now I'm not buying that. They've also giving
up a lot of defense. Meant the defense, the comparisons
to where they play. Look who New England has played
(23:59):
over the is the Jets. Yes, the Jets. They would
have ten wins automatically every player before they even play
Chicago Minnesota. It's tough. That's tough, real, no doubt about it.
Thanks anyway, Sean, get off my phone all right? The
Skillers awarded another loss and uh clinch the AFC North.
We will talk with Rod Woodson and see if they
(24:22):
have enough to make a deep playoff run and more
around the NFL. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Rod Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Now, let's bring in one
of our favorite people, Rob Woods in the Hall of Fame,
(24:43):
dB and Super Bowl Champ. Welcome to The Odd Couple. Rod,
say hello to Andy Furman. Andy, what's going on there, sir?
How are you? How are you doing? Happy good, happy holiday?
What's up? My brother from another mother? How you doing?
Rod Man? A Your Steelers bounced back? Man. They were
down what was it twenty one to three or something
(25:05):
at one point twenty one to seven to seven. It
looked ugly and wall hoop and lucy. How'd they turn
it on and turned their season around. Really, I mean
listen and Mike Tomlin said it best that you know,
there's a fine line between drinking wine and smashing grapes.
So they really didn't change the play calling in the
(25:27):
second half like they did in the first half. It
was the same plays. It was the same calls that
players executed the plays. And really, if you think about football,
X and os don't move. Players make the plays come alive.
And they did that in the second half offensively and defensively,
and they came back and won that game. I was
surprised that they mean, that was the biggest comeback they
ever had in the second half in their history. So,
(25:50):
you know, I was surprised that they came back like
that because I was extremely worried, like you know, just
that long season. I think they thought they were exhausted.
If they found some resolved and they played extremely well
on the second half, they played the way they're capeboard
plane and put them back right back in the position
they want to be in. Rod Watson tell me about
(26:11):
Dwayne Haskins. What's next for him? Will he have a
future in the NFL? Well, you know, I think his
text do take He took ownership of that, you know,
he said he was immature. He learned from it, obviously,
you know, I think there was some you know, anytime
a coach comes in and he doesn't have any um,
(26:31):
he doesn't have any take in the quarterback that's there,
especially being drafted two years ago. Then he felt that,
you know, he felt that he wasn't wanted. Um. You know,
I think, you know, I think, you know, the whole
coaching staff was trying to give him the benefit of
the doubt. Obviously, you know, maybe it was some more
(26:51):
things are going on, uh you know, in the in
the building and whatnot with him. But he's a he's
an outstanding player. He's a good athletic quarter back that
can make plays. I hope somebody gives him an opportunity
to show that he's grown up and that he'll be
better off somewhere else. You know. Obviously, I don't think
he's gonna I don't think anybody's gonna take him off
(27:12):
the waivers because nobody's gonna pay that money. But hopefully
somebody will sign him once the seasons over and give
him opportunity because he is a good player. I think
he came out early. He's a young player. He needs
to mature a little bit more. That stuff happens, but
hopefully somebody will give him an opportunity to be the
quarterback that he can be. If you have a good
(27:32):
quarterback coach and they've been they're showing him how to
play and how to be it. Now he has to
be a pro outside of football, and inside of football,
he has to be a pro. I think the step
with that being a pro is that him taking ownership
of him making mistakes and the reason he got he
got waived. Our guess is rod Woods in the Hall
of Fame, dB Super Bowl champ Here on the A
(27:54):
couple of Fox Sports Radio. What did you make Aaron
Rodgers last night? For touchdowns against Tennessee in the snow?
He now has forty four one shy of his career
high only five picks, leads the league in quarterback waiting.
What a turnaround from a year ago after it looked
(28:15):
like people were trying to bury this guy. What have
you seen from Aaron Rodgers this year? It was he's
a year into the system. Remember last year he was
in the thom McCarty was there for a long time,
so he understood that system. Like the back of his hands.
He comes in new coach and he calls a different system,
similar plays, but different terminology, different language, and he has
(28:38):
to figure at all out. And anytime you're you've been
around for a long Pater Sunny, especially as a quarterback,
and they change your language, that's like changing everything. That's
like changing the cold on the back of the computer.
And obviously he took him a year he was trying
to figure it out. This year we see that he
figured it out. And you know, I think he's the
league MVP. The only thing that say if somehow, some
(29:01):
way Derrick Henry rushes for two thousand yards, every running
back who rush for two thousand yards has been in
the league MVP in the past. But right now, Aaron
Rodgers is playing lights out and I don't think anybody
can beat them in Green Bay, especially looking at that weather. Nobody,
you can't. You can't tell me any warm weather play.
(29:22):
Our team is going to go up there and play
the top of their game in Green Bay and Lambeau.
You know what, Rod, I'm with you and watching that
game last night, they weren't affected by the snow. Right
Aaron had four touchdowns that had two running backs to
each almost had one hundred yards. Did they look like
they were bothered by the snow, No, not at all.
(29:42):
I mean, but they live in it, right, So that's
their play, that's their their domain. And you know, I
just don't know if if any team that can probably
give them a little game, even though they're coming from
the South, will be the New Orleans thing just to
the fact that I think they got a solid defense.
I think defensively they won't give them up those big plays,
and they can match up a little bit better with
(30:02):
their cornerbacks to their receiving corp. Even though DeVante Adams
is just a monster, I don't know if the matchup
man the man with him. Yeah, I'm with you. With
New Orleans, I think they could give him some fits.
But I'm going to ask you this, Rod, how did
the Patriots bring Cam Newton back a quarterback really for
next year? Because I thought that basically Cam didn't have
it this year. Now I don't I don't think they will. Um,
(30:25):
you know, obviously I don't know what cam future in
the National Football League will be. Uh, it could be
a backup, you know, And I say that for reason
because you look at the look look at the Los
Angeles Rams, Jared Golf gets hurt, who's your backup? He
ain't throw the ball yet in the National Football League,
so you think that a lot. You got to get
(30:47):
a little bit smarter, a trig quarterback in the mix.
They have some type of experience when they're in the
playoff race like that. But you know, if if he's
still I don't think he's gonna be with England obviously,
but hopefully an opportunity to continue his career. Um. You know,
I don't know if it has to be the right system.
(31:07):
It can't be that passing system. It has to be
a right system for him. You know, does brought him
up to the Ravens. I mean it's a good would
be a good system for him, but I don't know
if they need a quarterback. So it'd be interesting to
see what happens with them. Hopefully who would have an
opportunity to continue his career, But I know he won't
be back in New England. One last question we have
about a minute, Rod, you brought up the Ravens and
(31:31):
you know they're fighting hard trying to get there, putting
up points against all the teams in their way. If
if they get in, and could they be dangerous. I
think they can, uh, you know, because we know they
can score points. We know their defense can't play good football.
They've been inconsistent, and I look at them and you
(31:52):
look at Listen. Miami's gonna lose this next week. Buffalo
they're gonna try to win that game because they want
to stay number two, because if they want to play
Kansas seen that championship game, not in the divisional round, right,
So both of those are gonna try to win that game.
You gotta think Pittsburgh is trying to be Cleveland, you know.
So I you know, I think buff I think Baltimore
is in a good spot. They're gonna go out. They're
gonna beat the Cincinnati being goes, I believe, And I
(32:15):
think if they get in, they're gonna be a tough
out because we know they can put points on the
board and we know the deepest can play solid football.
You just got to hope that somewhere along the line
that Lamar Jackson has a rough day in passing the
football once you get to the postseason. But if they
get in, it's gonna be a tough out. Problems too, Yep,
(32:37):
no doubt about it. His name is Rob Woodson Man,
the Hall of Fame, dB and Super Bowl champ were
appreciate the knowledge. Rod. Happy New Year to you and
your family, my man, Happy New Year's man. I'm just
watching the Bills. Mafia can go at it tonight. Yep,
no doubt that that's a good football team right there.
All right, appreciate you all right now, I picked here
(32:59):
now yep, all right. Coming up on the Odd Couple, Andy,
will urban Meyer take his the big toe and put
it in the NFL pond? Is there a chance that
he's gonna give up the microphone, leave college behind and
take a chance at the NFL. Andy Ferman will tell
(33:20):
you what he thinks about the whole idea of urban
Meyer going to the NFL. That and much more. It
is The Odd Couple on the Magic City Monday, Rob Parker,
Andy fermanand for Chris Boussard right here on Fox Sports Radio.

It is the couple on a Magic City Monday, Rob
(34:02):
Parker along with Andy Furman and for mister Chris Broussard. Andy.
You know, there's some buzz going around that maybe, just
maybe Urban Meyer might jump into one of these NFL
gigs that are gonna be open. There'll be a number
of job openings. What do you make you think he
(34:23):
can make the jump to the foremost. I'm gonna say this,
I hate to see him leave Fox TV because I
think he's tremendous on television. I really do. He's a natural.
But you know what those guys are for the most part,
or coaches at heart, and I know they do TV.
The only one that always surprised me was that Bill
Kauer never got back in. Do you know what I mean?
(34:43):
That he that he may go back to the Jets.
There's some rumors out there really in New York. Yeah,
he's been gone so long though that just seems like
but still he wouldn't mind going to the Jet if
the deal is is sweet enough. I think he'll go,
I really do. But you're right, but there are certain people,
and you know this as well as anybody that have
(35:04):
what I call it, and urban Meyer has it. What
do I mean by that? He's got the coaching pedigree.
He's a coach at heart and he desives to be
back in coach. He should be. And this guy, if
you hadn't followed his career, he's won everywhere he's been
bowling Green, Utah, Ohio state, two national championships in Florida,
one championship in Ohio State. This guy's got the bug
(35:25):
in his system. He left because he wasn't feeling well,
he had some heart problems. He'll go back there and
the good news is that he will not be going
to the NFL. Should he go there for the money.
A lot of these guys that are intrigued by the money.
I think he's going to go there to proof to
himself that well, I made it on the college level.
Let me see if I could do it in the pros. Yeah.
It's just and at some point, like maybe he's done
(35:49):
with college and you're looking for new challenges in life,
Andy Wright, and it hasn't been. The NFL has not
been great to college coaches, even though Jim Harball when
he didn't win a Super Bowl but he did a
great job in San Francisco, would you agree with that?
And Jimmy Johnson did okay as well as Pete Carroll. Right,
(36:10):
So there have been some guys who have had success,
but most a lot of guys have flopped. What do
you think are the chances of maybe Urban Meyer? Do
you think he could adapt to the NFL style? And
the problem and I think why you know why coaches
have flopped and failed at the next level is the
lack of control. You have that control in college. You
(36:31):
go out in the recruit players, you recruit who you
want to play for you. You want to suspend a guy,
he could do that. These really just take the scholarship
away from the kid to threaten it with that. There's
none of that really in the NFL, and I think
that's where coaches try to come in there with that
disciplinary action, and you can't get away with it in
the NFL. You just can't. Nick Saban failed. You know,
(36:54):
he had won the National Championship and LSU and then
he went to the Dolphins and oh four, he failed. You,
Loui Saban, he quit. He didn't even finish after season
when he coached the Jets, right no, I mean it's
a different animal. Um, but I think that I would
like to see Urban might give her a try, you know,
(37:16):
like before it's too late, you know, and you get
too old and whatnot, and that opportunity. I think that
happened to tom Izzo, Remember Tom Azo, I had a
chance to go coach the Cavaliers when Lebron didn't take
the job. Probably passed him by. Now I think that
he'll probably finish and only be a college coach. Well,
you can you know a couple of times, I mean,
(37:36):
right after a while, people stopped right. I remember when
Bob Huggins was coaching University of Cincinnati. I don't remember
if you were here when I think you were. When
Huggins was coaching, Uh, there was some tree. He was
the go to the Miami Heat and he turned them
down and it never came back. Right, They never asked.
After a while, they stopped asking. They said, forget it.
That's it. Say they don't ask me anymore. I'm gone.
(37:57):
They don't call you gone. No I asked you because
I want to ask. Guy. Come on, you know, we
go back, go back to nineteen ninety one when I
showed up in Cincinnati, did I not stir up that
place when I got there? And you still miss the
Montgomery and admit it? Ah, you know it. Every time
I have ribs at Montgomery and I gotta have a
(38:18):
cigarette afterward, and I don't even smoke. That's how good
they are. They are great, no doubt. All Right, I'm
looking forward to the third hour of the show, and
we're talking some baseball. You know, Cincinnati is one of
the great baseball towns in this country. And Blake Snell
going to the Padres and we'll let's shake up the
(38:40):
NL West. We'll talk about that, We'll get some reaction.
I have a chance for you to call in. We'll
also have a Van Joseph, the Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator.
He'll join us as well. That and much more, all
coming up on this Magic City Monday, Rob Parker, Andy
