(00:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, it is the
I Couple. I'm Chris Bruce Hard alongside my partner Rob Parker,
(00:49):
and we're coming to you live from the Fox Sports
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studio. Where are we? What
the Farmer's Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studio. Yes, call one
eight eight eight Farmers to switch and you could save
a bundle on your car insurors. What else are you
gonna do with your phone over the next few minutes?
(01:10):
Look at pictures of food your friends eight No, call
one eight eight eight Farmers and get a quote. We
are farmers, man, Rob. This is like homecoming week for us.
Last night we had Mark Kriegel, who you worked closely
with the New York Daily News. I know that just
(01:34):
shows how old y'all are. I was still in college
and whatever whatever. But tonight we got Sean Powell, and
I know he's a buddy at both of ours. We've
had him on before. A great guy. I worked with
Sean Powell that Newsday. I was. I was the columnists,
the first black sports columnist Newsday ever had Chris and
(01:56):
Sean was he he was second. He was When I left,
Sean became a columnist, but he I think when I
got there, he was the NBA columnist. Yeah, I was
gonna say, I think when I came to New York,
went to New York, you guys were there. You were
at Newsday. You were at the columnists that Newsday. Yea
and uh and Sean was covering the NBA and I
(02:17):
you know, I went to New York Times. But yeah,
I remember when both you guys were there together. And
so yeah, it'll be fun talking with him. You know
his daughter was a track star, yeah, Baylor. Yeah, I
see all the stuff on Facebook. I feel like seen
her whole career, even up through high school. That's a
great thing about Facebook, you know, like all this stuff.
I've seen all the awards or whatever. But yeah, she was.
(02:39):
She wound up be in a track star. She was fantastic. Yeah. Yeah,
so we will get with him at the bottom of
the hour. There's so much to get to. Uh. There
is football, of course, big signing Cam Newton and we'll
talk about that. Of course NBA action going on, and
even a little high school sports. You might be wondering what,
but not in a good way, right this one, this
(03:01):
one must be addressed, So we will do that over
the next three hours. Keep it locked here on Fox
Sports Radio, the iHeart Radio app or Serious XM Channel
eighty three, however you may be listening. We got the
I Couple crew in on the ones and the twos
on this funky flashback Friday. Is that my man I
was Sam, Yes, I thought I recognized your voice. You know,
(03:24):
we're talking a little bit before the show to me,
and I knew I didn't have to be told. I
knew it was my man. I was saying. I was saying,
don't be fooled by the name either. He gets funky.
So we're gonna have some nice little songs coming in
and out of the breaks tonight. We've got Lee the Lap,
the super producer in for Rob G. Rob G taking
one of his many days off as usual, so Lee
(03:47):
is running things and on the other life, Man he's
got the man. Rob. I don't know how he does it.
It's like ridiculous. This dude, he gets more vacation than
we do. There's no doubt about it. So as hard
as we did, that's another story, all right. He would
try to fight that, but we know the truth, uh,
and we have. I believe it's Steve de Sagar y
(04:11):
or and the thanks you. I'm just guessing because he
always does Fridays for the most part. So Steve de
Sagar all right. Rob cam Newton resigned by the Patrios.
Now it came out that the deal was fourteen million.
It's a one year deal, fourteen million dollars, but it's
a five million dollars base. So he's got his five
(04:32):
million dollars and then nine million dollars in incentives, you know, Playoffs,
Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, MVPs better than last year. Did
he only make a million? Much? It was only a million?
I think, Chris, I yes, So are you surprised? I
mean this, this this was the big news of the morning,
and I do think it caught most people off guard,
(04:56):
not totally because I had heard that Bill Bell check
and we heard it during the season, like the results
weren't there, Chris. But you gotta admit Bill was talking
about his work, ethic and all the stuff. And and and
remember Cam at Cam had had success against Bill's defense
before when he played against him, so he had a
(05:16):
lot of respect for Cam and what he was able
to do. And I'm not making excuses. The results weren't there, Chris.
Early on in the season. If you remember Seattle, we
talked about it. He had one play they had and
that would have been a big win on the road
against Seattle early on in the season, before we knew
(05:37):
Seattle's defense wasn't that good, right, but it would have
been a really good, big, big win, and it didn't happen.
He was stopped at the one yard line. But the
point is there were some moments when we thought, okay,
like Kim, this is okay, this is all right working
And then he got COVID, came back and was just awful.
Was just bad. But I never believe like the door
(05:59):
was totally closed. But we had talked to Christian Fourier
and up there in Boston, the former tight end right
he played for them. He won a couple of Super
Bowls with them. Plugged in with the Patriots, and he
was he was plugged in, I was any more. He
was as confident as anything when we had him more.
(06:21):
I don't know he came on our show, right, what
was it? Uh? Actually it was probably right around after
the Super Bowl because he didn't he come on the
gloating all that, and uh, he assured us. Rob assured
us that Cam Newton would not only not be with
the Patriots, but what he said, he'd be out of
(06:41):
the league, right out of the league. That was the
one that me and you were like, what, like, there's
no spot for him? You know, there's only how many quarterbacks,
Chris thirty two? There's three quarterbacks for the most part
on every team. So say they say maybe not every
team seventy five quarterbacks or something like, right, or he
(07:02):
couldn't get one of those jobs, like like he couldn't
be on I think there. I don't think there's anybody
in the NFL even that would say Cam Newton is
not one of the best seventy heck thirty quarterbacks in
the league. Robbed to be honest, But teams are in
(07:22):
different places, you know what I mean, No, I can
and so some teams they're young, they're rebuilding, they don't
necessarily want to bring him in, and I think other
teams ribbed. Obviously he could be a very good backup,
but I think teams don't feel like Cam at least yet,
sees himself as a backup, you know what I mean,
(07:43):
where he's just just gets that. But if there's no
job for you, I mean, sometimes you gotta stick around.
I get it, I get it. But but but but
I thought he would be around. I didn't think he
was totally out in New England. A lot of people did,
and to a big surprise, he's back. And and Chris.
Maybe it's just because the two you don't needed each other.
(08:04):
Is that the way you see it? Yeah? I do.
I think I think it's two desperate entities that need
each other. They looked around, Well, Cam I don't think
was looking around. Um. But the Patriots, I believe, we
saw the reports they want Garoppolo. But remember the forty
nine ers that come out and said Garoppolo's our quarterback
(08:28):
next year. Now people don't seem to believe that. And yeah,
if they can get a Deshaun Watson, then I'm sure
they'd make that switch. But otherwise they're probably sticking with Garoppolo,
and they probably let the Patriots know, look, you're not
getting him, you know, period, so you might as well
look elsewhere. And I think the Patriots they may continue
to look, you know, Rob their reports that this won't
(08:50):
stop them from looking for a quarterback. They may draft one.
I think they have the sixteenth pick. They may draft
one in the draft, and that beat That would make
sense actually because him, you know, be a guy next
year if your draft say Matt Jones out of Alabama
or whoever, he can kind of learn, you know, for
a year and maybe he's your guy after that. But
(09:12):
uh so, I just think that the Patriots could not
find a viable solution at quarterback elsewhere and that they
went ahead and got Cam. And I agree with you.
I mean, I don't think Belichick. I don't think Belichick
is a BS guy, like whether people like he had
no reason to absolutely, there's no reason, Like, he doesn't
(09:35):
owe Kim anything. Absolutely, what does he owe him he does?
What does he get from complimenting Cam Newton? Nothing? You know, No,
he didn't compliment Tom Brady for the most part, you know,
so he could say what he wants and he chose
you know, I do think Cam was a tremendous leader
for that team. I mean, you said they named him
(09:57):
a captain, rob you know, he he hadn't even hardly
been there and they named him a team captain. You
saw the stories about how guys just gravitated to him.
I think his personality. You know, people can talk about
the way he dresses and all that, but I bet
he's a lot of fun as a teammate. You know,
he's probably loose. I think he works hard, and you know,
(10:19):
people just respect him for the athletic specimen he is
and what he's done, even though he's obviously on the decline,
but what he's done and what he's come back from.
Let's just be honest, Chris. He his shoulder was separated
right right then. He had shoulder surgery. So he's had
to come back and uh and and maybe maybe they believe, okay,
(10:43):
this will be the he had the full year back,
maybe the second year, that that shoulder will be better,
you know what I mean, because it struggled throwing the football.
He has struggled throwing the football. And I'll say this,
and this is not an excuse for him because maybe
didn't have much impact at all on him. But COVID
hits different people different ways. We heard Jason Tatum, the
(11:07):
great you know player for the Boston Celtics, he had
COVID and he said that it's this was a couple
of weeks ago, but he said to that point it
was close to a month later. He still was having
problems at times with his breathing, like at times during
the game he be fatigued or have trouble breathing, and
(11:27):
it was related to COVID. And so I don't know.
It's possible that COVID really took a lot out of Cam.
Even if he didn't, it didn't knock him out, it
may have taken a lot out of him. Maybe that's
why he never was the same after he got came
back from it. But I'm not trying to make an
excuse for him. Right last year I picked him to
(11:52):
lead them to the playoffs, I'm not expecting much. I
don't expect I thought Cam would really have a good
year last year. He obviously he didn't. I don't expect
that this year. I think this is, like I said,
a marriage of convenience. The Patriots still need a quarterback.
They were seven and nine. Maybe Belichick thinks, you know, look,
they will be more adjusted to Cam, right, They'll be
(12:14):
able to craft and offense is even more suited for him.
He will know the system better. They'll get some of
their guys back that they lost last year. They remember,
six guys opted out. Remember, not an excuse but that,
but six guys start. I think four of the six
were starters who opted out. Yes, and it's not I'm
(12:36):
not picking them for the playoffs at this early date.
I like Buffalo and Miami in that division obviously, but
it's not out of the realm of possibility. Right. If
he just is a game manager who can score at
the goal line and you know, makes a few plays
for you here and there, and if their defense is strong,
which obviously is belichick strong suit, you know, it's not impossible.
(13:00):
I'm not picking him again. But um, that's that's what
I see it as, rob a marriage of convenience. I'd
be surprised if Cam came out and played really well.
But you are right, he started this season well, and
he was actually one of the one of the talking
points in the league. Remember early on, yes, early on,
you remember it was like, hey, you know what they're
not that bad. They're not that bad. And then they
(13:23):
didn't win that game in Seattle. He got COVID, missed
a couple of weeks, and it just went down the
other way. What they finished when it Chris seven games
or six, seven and nine, which you know it was
seven and nine. Yeah, I mean even and nine isn't
absolutely horrible? Can you flip those games? You know? Can
you flip two or three? You flip two or three
(13:44):
from a year ago and now all of a sudden,
what are you? Nine and seven? Yeah? You flip two games? Yep?
And they had like flip a million games, you know. Right,
Look they beat the Chargers forty five, right, the Chargers,
you know, who weren't very good, but still cost after
winning his job probably that yeah, yeah, yeah, so um,
(14:05):
we'll see. Remember they beat Baltimore two twenty three seventeen
when Baltimore was in there swoon. So all right, we're
throwing it out to you guys eight seven seven ninety
nine or Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine. Can Cam step it up for the
Patriots as make them playoff contenders this year? I don't
(14:26):
expect much, Rob, you what you expecting you think playoffs,
I don't know. I gotta see him again. Yeah, I'm
right now. I can't say I know what he's gonna be,
but I will say right now, yeah, playoffs would be
pretty tough to predict. Right now. Well, my thing robbed
and and I'm not mocking Cam at all. I'm just
(14:47):
pointing out the facts. I'm not going to get hyped
because I know he's motivated. We heard him on the
Brandon Marshall podcast our colleague here Fox Sports One. He
doesn't want to go out like you know, the way
he did after playing last year. But it's not about talk.
I mean last summer Cam was, you know, the Lions
(15:09):
about to roar. It's only one king of the jungle.
And I'm nat you know all that stuff, and it
doesn't matter. I'm not ripping him. I'm just saying you
all you have to do is go out and prove
it on the field. The talk, all that, the workouts,
you know that, the impressive weightlifting and all that, that's
not what's gonna impress people. You have to go out
(15:31):
and get it done on the field. So we will see.
But you guys eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
what do you expect from Cam Newton this season with
the Patriots? You're turned away in with Chris and Rob

coming to you live from the Farmers Insurance Fox Sports

Radio Studios. Call one AA eight Farmers and you could
save a whole lot of money on your car insurance.
All right, eight seven, seven ninety nine On Fox. Rob
Let's get to these, Sam know about Rick James and
you ah, Iowa Sam Defenders. I look, I know you
(16:55):
were out there in the core fields with the two
turntables and the crows Fader getting busy. Unbelievable. You rob
me saying, don't hurt, don't feed, don't be fooled, don't
be fooled that I don't know what's going on. All right,
(17:15):
let's kick it off with Mark and Sacramento. You're on
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Mark,
what's going on? Gentlemen? Happy a flatback Friday? Yeah? What's up? Man?
Doing good? Um? I don't know how I really feel
about this. I think that both I don't think New
England could get anybody to come there. Number one. I
(17:38):
think they tried, and uh, I didn't have about Stidham,
doesn't it Mark? I mean, yeah, yeah, he's nothing. We
knew that, to be honest. And the only games of
one year. I didn't get him just one year, right,
So I think it's a stop gap to something else
because I think that they just they didn't have much
(17:59):
of a choice. Uh, they didn't have a lot of
draft picks to give up to really go out and
get into nor spared in New England. No exact whether
you whether you like Cam or not, you could you
justify give any more than a year? I mean really,
(18:19):
I couldn't just give any more. No, no, no, that's
that's what they gave him was fair. I mean obviously
can't come back for a million dollars. I agree, not
very accurate. He's still not very accurate. And he surely
don't know if if that army is really healed. Uh,
you need to get him some were weapons. But yeah,
you don't know. And Kim's never been accurate anyway. So right,
(18:42):
you keep hearing that they made you know, they've got
fifty million dollars to spend, they may go get weapons.
They've rarely done that, Thanksmark. You know they did it
a couple of times for Brady, you know a couple
of times. But they wouldn't get Brady weapons is last year.
That that's why he left, you know. So I'm not
this They're gonna go out and get some weapons. They
(19:02):
need to if they want, if they're serious about trying
to win, But I don't know about it. Eric and
long Beach, you're on the eye couple of Fox Sports
Radio what's up? He Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. Yeah,
just on my way to dinner with my for my
birthday with my kids. So where are you guys going.
We're going to some Chinese food restaurant. I don't know.
(19:25):
I don't know where they're taking me. That's great, though, man,
nothing like family taking you out for a birthday meal.
That's right, that's right, and you go after you wait
a minute, hold on, Eric, after you have dinner at
the Chinese restaurant. On the way home, you could go
to in and out. It could be full, you know
what I'm saying? Right, All right, Hey, I just wanted
(19:52):
to talk about the wild card and all of this.
Last year, Campbell was able to play without the benefit
of fans. We all know that the Boston, the league,
the area has a history of not treating you know,
certain type of athletes correctly. And if he starts to struggle,
you know, talk radio and all of that stuff, you know,
might it might affect the way that he might play.
You know, I don't know how you guys might feel
(20:13):
about that. Well, you're sugar cool, but Boston's had plenty
of incidents. There's no doubt a Bryant and I think, Look,
I think just because fans weren't in the stands, I
mean they were on the radio, they were calling in,
you know, so I think it'll be fine. But you're right.
I mean, we'll see. But um, I think he's strong
(20:34):
enough mentally to get through that if that happens. Enjoy
your meal. Happy birthday again, Eric, We appreciate ham yelp
ham enjoys. You're in the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up Friday? What up? What's up? Guys? You know,
I think that this is a good thing for both parties.
I feel like they didn't get a preseason together, and
(20:56):
with the COVID thing that missed a couple of weeks together.
I just feel like they can come in. I think
the Patriots are going to be motivated. They're getting a
lot of players back, and I think Bill ball Check
is uh coming in a little hot to Tom on
his little super Bowl, so we're gonna see something nice.
I feel like they might go eleven and five in
that division. Wow. Wow, Yeah, are you a pat I'm
(21:21):
a Packers fan, But I just I just know that
I think he's one of the greatest coaches of all time,
and I feel like when he wasn't cheating, yes, Sam,
I agree. Well, you know, listen, I know it's a cheater,
but sometimes you know, if you can get ahead, who
is it. They're saying, if you're not cheating, you're not trying, right,
(21:43):
But my point is, but just make sure we keep
that in there, that he's a cheater. All right, Marty
in Kentucky, you're in the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Marty? What's ups? Good? Talk to you this Friday.
I'm gonna jump right into it. Guys. Got a few
points I want to make. I think Cam's a solid player.
(22:03):
I think that Um Belichick liked him. I think his
body is two banged up for you know, enzing more
than a year contract. And I really don't blame him
for that. I don't think he was He got fair
treatment compared to other quarterback when he was younger, with
getting protected because of his size, and that's let us. No,
(22:25):
they let him, they let them, They let players. Yeah, yeah,
they left. He really took some hints, and I think
Belichick is is okay was being in the middle of
the road right now because I think he believes he
couldn't find that next hidden gym quarterback in the draft
because you think about it, but the last five years,
a quarterback that he has drafted has been in the
(22:46):
Super Bowl. Eleven of the last twenty years a quarterback
he's drafted in Super Bow. And if you look at
the last three MVPs, Aaron Rodgers picked twenty four, Lamar Jackson,
last pick of the first round, pat my home and
flip ten. So they're still out there, and I think
he thinks he's gonna find one, and uh, he's he's
waiting for that. No, you you're right. I mean, Rob,
(23:09):
we could go to Joe Montana, Uy said, you know, yeah,
I mean there's a ton of because Montana was a
third round pick. Dak Prescott was a fourth round pick. Yep,
you know. So yeah, there's no question about that. And
you're here. You know, look, Rob, we don't see these guys.
We're not studying the tape on these quarterbacks we watch,
(23:31):
We watched them, but we're putting a lot of what
guys are saying into it. And and some guys really
like Mac Jones. You know, um, look, who would have
thought Brady would have become what he did? You know,
so I'm not saying Mac Jones will be that, but
you know, you never know, so we will see. But
all right, we're do they couple company live from the
Farmers Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios called one Triple eight
(23:54):
Farmers to switch and save a bundle on your car insurts.
A guy that goes way back with robbing me our
man NBA writer for NBA dot Com, Mister Sean Pyle. Sean,
what up, brother, Sean? Well, I'm hoping they never restructured
the odd couple. You mean they might cancel them? What
(24:16):
do you mean that? You know you might not notice Rob,
But Sean and I battled each other in the knockdown,
drag out slam dunk contest once. We're not going to
talk about that. Well we were. It was Jordan Wilkins
was that. This was at the Metal Last. It was that,
(24:37):
remember was that the nets old practice facility in Jersey
with Vince Carter was a judge. Vince Carter w yeah,
and a couple other players were judges. The rim, of course,
was like eight feet high at the most might even
been seven and a half. I remember playing with Sewn
on the top of the Marriott on the on at
(24:59):
the Chicago Marriott, right, Sewan on the roof at Michigan Avenue.
Remember that. Yeah, one time I think kids from Kid
and Play showed up and really actually played ball. Yeah,
as far as he played a dunk, yeah he's he
was actually pretty good. As far as that dunk contrast,
it was six feet the rim of six feet for Christics.
(25:21):
They're raised it for ten people here. Oh wow, that's why.
Let's get to the let's get to the news. Sean, Um,
we haven't heard your view when the nets. We've heard
a lot of people saw them last way. Yeah, what
are you what did you? Are you surprised at how
well they've played, and do you expect them to be
(25:44):
able to win a championship or get close? I'm not
that surprised. I mean, when you've got three short fire
Hall of famers who can are all in their prime
and who can create their own shot, I mean, so
I'm not surprised. I guess I'm I'm probably I would
say mildly impressed that they've been able to do it
without Kevin Durant. But you knew it was just a
(26:06):
matter of time before they start playing defense. And really
that was the only question with this team are they
going to play good enough defense to get where they
want to go? And I think the rest of the
NBA right now I was on alert. I mean, when
you look at the way they've been able to play
without Kevin Durant, I think everybody else in the NBA
is shipping right now because we really haven't seen the
(26:30):
Nets at their best. As good as they've been, we
haven't seen him at their best yet. Right. Let me
ask you about this Kyrie Irvin, who of course took
that little sabbatical. Some people said he should retire if
he doesn't want to play. He was bashed roundly for,
you know, leaving his team. Last night, he tied his
season highwood forty. He played fifteen for twenty three from
(26:53):
the field, he's been playing really good ball that people
forget how good he was. I think sometimes when you
when the side show gets a lot of publicity, and look,
we live in the age of twenty four hours sports
TV and in radio. People have to have something to
talk about, right right, and so therefore it's Kyrie twenty
(27:14):
four seven. Whenever he does, you know things, and so
sometimes you know that image can't be raised until he's
on the court, and no one never said anything about
him as a basketball player. It's just the side show
stuff as far as him, you know, when he took
a leave of Adgens and everything. The one thing, you know,
sometimes it might airritate me a little bit about the
(27:35):
quote unquote noise out there is that you really don't
know what he's gone through. I mean, for people to
say he should retire this netch, first of all, you
have no idea why he told a leave of aspens.
And the only people who should be concerned about it
was the Brooklyn Nets. And no, you didn't hear You
didn't hear that. You didn't hear them panics. He did
a good job. Yeah, christ and I talked about that
(27:56):
that they could have easily had other players leak out
something if they wanted to, like Soil Kyrie, and that
never came out from teammates or anybody. Absolutely so. And
the look it was so early in the season, I mean,
my goodness. But like I said, look, we live in
an age where you have to feel you know, airtime,
(28:18):
you have to feel space on the internet. You have
to do these things, and so people take their liberties.
You know, that's fine, But the bottom line is the
net really don't care even how many games Kevin Durant
keeps missing. They just have to be healthy within the
playoffs start well, Sean, as great as Kyrie's been, I
think Rob and I agree, Harden's been their MVP. Would
(28:40):
you I'm not sure if you're a voter or not,
but would the way he left Houston? Would that impact
your vote for him as far as MVP? You know, Chris,
that is a fantastic question. Actually, I was thinking it
might impact might vote for him on the being All
Star starter because first of all, he's started out in
(29:00):
the West and then he left, you know, so it
wasn't right y, Yeah, and I was like, well, why
should I even vote him a starter? But anyway, putting
all that aside, see, that's really maybe our own bias
coming into play. Uh. You know again, when you talk
about James Harden, the way he laughed and everything, yeah,
(29:21):
that side show tends to, um, you know, play a
bigger role in what he actually does on the court.
You know, it's interesting if you look at this team
and the way they were put together. You know, Kevin Durant,
you know, Bales on Golden State, Kyrie Irving palked his
way out of Boston. James Harden does the same out
of Houston. I call them the notorious Big Three during
(29:46):
I like that and I still live yeah tow But
you know, the way they left their respective teams. Maybe
you could give Kevin Durant a little bit of a path,
but it just seems like, you know, if you want
(30:10):
to have reason to hate the bookman Nets, you have reasons,
but the bottom line, you have to be impressed by
the way they've been playing. Hey, Sean, we got about
a minute to go here. Last thing, Lakers la LaMarcus Aldridge.
Is he on their radar or drumming if he becomes
available due to Lakers need to add a big man. Well,
(30:30):
when you start talking about guys buy out and guys
that nobody else wants, there's a reason why nobody else
wants them. They're not that good at this point in
their career and they're not going to be on the
spot and account. See when everybody here about these players,
Blake griff and whatever leading teams, these guys going to
be on the bench at the moment of truth. And
when you're on the bench at the moment of truth
of the contender. That means you're not you're not going
(30:53):
to make a big impact. All right. He didn't mince words.
That's why they alone. That's our man. Sean poem out
on Twitter at POW two the numeral two dub people
pow to the people, Sean Man, tell the family, we
say hello, man, we love half brother, take care, thank you,
I appreciate mane you guys. All right, Yeah, that's our man.
(31:14):
Sean p NBA writer for NBA dot com and we
alluded to it earlier. Pat Mahomes, Tom Brady taking restructuring.
They're still getting their money, but their restructuring stuff to
help their teams out. Will it work? And will we
see maybe a Super Bowl rematch? We'll get into that next.

Chris and Rob come into you live from the Farmers
Insurance Fox Sports Radio Studios. You can call Farmers Today
(31:57):
for a quote. Let's wrap up this hour, Rob with
a little NFL talk, and the news is Tom Brady
and Pat Mahomes are doing well. Brady's doing a contract extension,
which you know, that's just a it's semantics at this
point through at least the twenty twenty two seasons. It's
(32:19):
all just so that they can have less money against
the cap. All it'll save them nineteen million dollars against
the cap for them to go out and sign some
of their guys. And and the talk Rob is that
he did it so that they can try to bring
back linebacker Shaq Barrett. They need Shaq Barrett, Rob, they
need I actually think um that with the guys left, Yeah,
(32:43):
sure you'd like to get in Dominican Sue back as well,
but Shaty back right right, Levante David. They got Shaq Barrett.
They they need to get him. I'm not worried about
them losing, Like I don't think Antonio Brown is going
to get a lot of interest elsewhere, just because I
(33:06):
think teams would be leery of how he would behave
and so I think they got a great chance of
bringing him back. Leonard Fournette Rode We've seen it. I
mean running backs, I can get a productive running back
a lot of places, and he was good for them.
So in the playoffs he was great. Regular season he
(33:27):
was okay, playoffs he was great. Um, but I don't
think he's getting I don't think anybody's throwing a boatload
of money at him. So and Gronk. You know, everybody
knows he only wants to play with Brady. So I
don't think they'll lose him either. I think the key
is Shack Barrett for them. Yeah, it makes sense. And uh,
you know in this NFL where I just I just
(33:50):
think it's it's unfair to players to sign them to
a deal and then ask them to you just shouldn't
have to do that. What what what's the you know,
to rejuggle the books to make this thing fit or whatever.
When people sign contracts, that's what it should be. And
I don't understand how every year it alters and you
got to ask people to take deferred money or or
(34:14):
rearrange it or what. They're still gonna get their money.
What's the difference, Chris, If it's well, if they get
it now or three years from that, they're still gonna
get the money. Yeah. I think it's all about the
cap and again we mentioned what I'm saying in the world,
can you yeah, I'm gonna be if I was in
that position and I'm getting my money, right, I know,
(34:35):
I'm getting my money. There's no question about that. If
it was going to help us keep you know, a
guy who's already on the team that we really want back,
or go sign somebody that we really need, I wouldn't
mind doing it as long as I'm getting my money
at the end of the day, I know. But that's
my point is that is that they're gonna get their money.
(34:56):
So what's the difference. When it was signed, it was
under the salary cap at FIT, so what you're still
fit that, you know what I mean. But things change
because the cap. Remember we know the cap went way down.
I think that's a big part of the problem is
that the cap went down because of COVID, and you know,
you sign other guys and their contracts. You know they're
making more money next year than they were last year.
(35:19):
It's just it's just a bizarre situation in the NFL.
I can't follow it, you know, I just I mean
the NBA, Yeah, they have their issues with the cap
as well. It's a soft cap. And they got the
luxury tax and all that, but it's a lot simpler
than the NFL. But Rob, and then of course in
baseball you don't have the cap. You know what to
(35:40):
worry about it, right? But I just think with I
don't know, I mean, maybe with so many players in
the league, is it just necessary. Maybe that's just so
many players that they have to have these types of things.
But it just seems odd. I don't know how anybody
keeps up with it. Hey, speaking real quick, you just
said they don't have it in baseball. You heard about
(36:05):
a Rod and Jennifer Lope. Yes, yes, they broke off
their engagement because he was in some Oh man, how
many times have we seen that? We don't. I don't
know what happened. I'm not accusing anybody of anything, but
that's the word out there. But I thought they made
a great couple, Chris, to be honest, I did, Man,
look that you don't get I mean, think about they
(36:28):
They're a great looking couple, right, they're mega bronx. He
was born in New York, right, he's yeah. I mean
but no, you're right, right, I mean you you think
of all the couples out there, I don't know that
you can beat that couple, and when you care about wealth, power, power, achievements,
(36:49):
looks maybe they should think about that and get back together.
You know, it's the eye couple keeping locked
