s R. You're listening to the best of the Odd
Couple with Chris Brush and Rod Harker. You ask me,
if Patrick Mahomes lost this game on Sunday, would I
still say he was Jordan Esque mood boy because he
(00:44):
won in historic fashion, heroic fashion. And yet I told
you even if he lost, I was gonna stand by
the Jordans claim. But how much more I'll stand by
that bad boy now because what Patrick Mahomes did, we
will all remember it just like we remember it. We
(01:05):
remember the immaculate reception, Frank o'haris, Terry Brashaw, Frenchie Feud Quad,
all of those that were involved in that. We will
remember the thirteen second comeback and Rob you and I.
Throughout this season, we've talked, We've we've been on the air,
(01:26):
We've done interviews with former players, coaches, whatever, and You've
asked several of them. What about Aaron Rodgers thirty seven
seconds left against San Francisco Week three, and he marked
their down by a point and he marches them down
the field in thirty seven seconds to get a field
(01:50):
goal the game winner. You were just you thought it
was great, Well, how about doing it in thirteen seconds?
My goodness, unbelievable. And one of the scenes that struck me,
Rob Park. I mean, we could talk about the two
passes to Kelsey and Hill. We can talk about Sean
(02:14):
McDermott's I think bad mistake, or he should have squibbed it,
or at the very league, not even the very least.
He had two options, Rob. He could have kicked off
short of the goal line, maybe at the five or
ten yard line, and if Kansas City runs it, that's
gonna take some time off the clock. Or if they
fair catch, they don't have just forty five yards to
(02:37):
go right now, all of a sudden, they've got or
forty yards whatever it is, they'd have sixty yards maybe.
So they made some mistakes on Buffalo's side. But one
thing that struck me, Rob when Josh Allen, who was
fantastic and I'm gonna be on. He outplayed Mahomes up
until that last you know, thirteen seconds of regulation, and
(02:59):
then over time he was great. But when he threw
that last touchdown to go up thirty six thirty three
with thirteen seconds left, obviously everybody thought it was over.
They showed Patrick Mahomes on the sideline as calm as
could be. I mean, he looked like he just he
(03:20):
no emotion. He got up, started throwing the football, warming
up like he had thirteen minutes left. And he goes
out there as a cool customer. Thirteen seconds left and
the rest is history. Delivers two dimes, sets him up
in field goal range. They tie it, and then they
went it in overtime. Rob Parker, Yes, Patrick Mahomes, we'll
(03:44):
see if he lives it out, but right now, the
boy is Jordan esque. It was a game for the
ages on both sides. And as I continue to watch
NFL football along with the guy performances, I cannot get over.
And both quarterbacks were tremendous. You're right, Josh Allen showed
(04:06):
me something last night. You know, with thirteen seconds to
even get to touchdown conversion round, No, you know, that's
that's that's big time stuff. And you know, the coaching
continues to have me. I'm with you, like I'm not
a football coach. And it's not even second guesses, Like
(04:26):
you don't understand like time is of the f's essence, right,
you don't want to leave time on the clock. It
doesn't matter how many games have we watched where guys, right,
I don't. I don't like time. Like you can't score
all games. You can't score, you can't score all game.
But Chris, the last fifteen forty seconds, teams always seem
(04:50):
to be able to move the ball down and kick
a field goal. I'm because I think a lot of
teams roving clearly Buffalo did this. They going to prevent
but but it doesn't work times and especially right and
all you gonna do is get two big ones, one
underneath for twenty yards and another one for twenty five
(05:10):
and they're right there, you know where you want to be.
But yeah, it was one of those games that was
hard to imagine what would finish like that, especially when
I thought, um, you know, I questioned KA Kansas City's defense.
That was my reason why I didn't pick them, And
I told you I didn't like their defense. But there's
(05:30):
no way I thought Buffalo with the number one defense
coming in would have been shredded. But Patrick did the
job against them, especially late and and you know, and
beat them. But I was surprised at the points. I
was surprised at how it ended. And you're right, at
thirteen seconds you just think, man, they're gonna come up
(05:53):
short and they might get a shot at a field goal,
but it might not go in, you know what I mean,
like a deep try. But it was definitely one of
those games you you will remember because of all the
nuances and great performances and stuff that uh that registers,
you know, and you can't forget it. I mean most
people whenever you see remember the week before I was
(06:13):
belly aching about all the bad games, all the blowouts. Right,
we went from three or four terrible games to watch, right,
Remember we complained about Arizona and the RAM was three
out of the three I think three out of the
six or I'm sorry, three out of three out of
the six were terrible, right. The Steelers were bad that game.
And what was the other one that was really bad?
(06:34):
A blowout? Um? Well, in the Bengals Raiders game wasn't
exciting right, it wasn't a blowout. But but there was
another Arizona game. Arizona got blown out. Yeah, but there
was another one. There was another one. We're missing it, Rob,
come up. But anyway, like three three of the six
games were bad, and here we had all four which
(06:55):
went down to the wire. Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Pittsburgh. Right,
that was the other one. Terrible. But but but this
was the exact opposite. And this is what you want
for playoff football to be. Uh, And you can't script
it any better. Rob, you mentioned the cause by McDermott,
and you're right. It wasn't just I mean, the kickoff
(07:16):
decision was bad enough, but then after that, and I've
heard even X players say they didn't have a problem
with the kickoff. A lot did, but other some say
they didn't. Their problem was with the Buffalo defense, the
way they basically went prevent and gave him the underneath stuff.
(07:36):
But with time running out, if your squibbit, Chris or
you know, kick it short of the end zone, you
might have cut off five or six or seven seconds,
and it's a it's a total. You gotta get to
you gotta get to the line of scrimmage twice, you
know what I mean? Like say, if you if I
ate up six or seven seconds Mahomes needed to if
(07:59):
he had, well, don't he would have had didn't he
didn't he I think they had three seconds on the
clock when he right, So maybe it wouldn't have you know,
I mean if they cut off three four seconds, he
still would have had nine or ten seconds. Maybe still
would have guy done. But you don't. But but given
(08:20):
a guy like that time like like we've seen it,
you gotta gobble up the time. You could go back
to that Atlanta Falcons Chris uh meltdown against the Patriots
where they leave Tom Brady like they're they're they're, they're
they're going on plays with twenty seconds left on the
play clock. Why wouldn't you go every place should be
down to the last two or three seconds, because then
(08:43):
you eat that up and you don't allow a guy
to get the ball or have as much time. But
Patrick got beyond and thirteen seconds was good enough. Thirteen seconds. Um.
I believe that Sean McDermott thought the game was over.
I really do. He couldn't. He couldn't, you know why
his defense Chris one't stopping anybody a defensive how many points?
(09:05):
But we've never seen thirteen. Second, No, you don't get it.
But I'm just saying, amazed at the Rogers thirty seven
or Stafford's forty two. Yeah, you can't against Sampa Bay. No,
I agree, thirteen is really short. But if you throw
the ball down field and get a pass interference, you
could set up something. And that's not what he did.
(09:25):
But I'm saying you can make one past Prevent, right,
because they're like, you're not getting long, but you I
think Rob in that situation, and I look, it's tough.
We're second I'm second guessing this. But if you go
your regular deep, you've been slopping him a lot large
part of the game. You've been playing Okay, like you said,
(09:46):
you got the top defense in the league. Maybe just
go your regular defense and play it like that rather
than playing Prevent. To me, I've seen more big games
lost Chris and Prevent than I just can't get over
why guys think that it works. Maybe it works more
than we know and we don't say anything. I can
see it works. Meted the game, you know what I mean,
(10:08):
But not in the game. Quarterback, you need to make
him uncomfortable, right, you can't just like I'm not gonna
pressure him. I'll just play more guys on the on
the receivers. Let me ask you this Rob did because
you know, mahomes for him by his standards, he obviously
had a down year. I mean, still was a good
year's top yeah, top five touchdowns, top five yards per game,
(10:33):
but not what we've seen you know, the past few years. Um,
did you did he tell you anything? Did you you know,
did he make a statement to you so to speak?
By playing so well in this game? And I mean
because I think a lot of people now who were
ripping him for the again, not a bad regular season,
(10:53):
but down from his standards, I think this almost now
they got to finish the deal, right if they lose
next week, and we're looking at it just like we
look at Josh Allen right in the game. But we're
moving on. But right now, you know, I think he
buys some extra like I don't know what the word is,
(11:13):
um cushion if you will, like if he has a
bad couple of weeks. No, no, no, this dude ain't
all that, you know what I mean? No, people will
look at that and say he still has some magic,
and we saw the magic. There was a lot of
times this year where he was, you know, not playing
well throwing the ball, interceptions, you know that, what do
(11:33):
you have eight interceptions in four or five games? Yeah,
early on where it just looked like, what is this?
This is not Patrick Mahomes at all. But yeah, I
mean you saw that, and he put his team in
position to win the game, and it was on his
strength of his arm and his play. So I think
people will be a little less to jump on him
unless it's just something so bad. But nah, I think
(11:55):
he's got he got some extra cretic, as Charlie Hayes
would say. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk

of Tom Brady's career. Chris heard that sound if you
(13:01):
listen to that sound, because you remember we talked about
this last week. You know, like like one day you
wake up, Chris and it's like I should be going
to my kids ball games, you know what I mean,
Like I should be doing dad's stuff. And I'm selfish
and I've played this long career and maybe it's time,
(13:22):
you know what I mean to to It just sounded kind.
I don't think most guys get to that point because
they don't play that, you know what I mean? Right
forty four I hear you, Rob, I feel like Brady
and we're gonna get into the game and all that,
but I feel like he wants to play. But like
(13:43):
you just said, I mean, he's got the pulls from
his family, and I don't. I don't. I mean, look,
I don't know what it's like when your dad is
a professional football player. But you know, is he spending
all week because obviously just one game a week, but
he spending all week pretty much all day stud in film,
you know what I mean? I mean looking at like that.
So I don't know, does he not what type of
(14:05):
time he has or doesn't have for his kids? You know, right,
Let's just listen. Let's listen to the sound one more time, Christen.
Then we'll get into the game. But just listen to this.
I have kids now too, you know, and I care
about them a lot as well. They've been my biggest supporters.
My wife is my biggest supporter. It pains her to
see me get hit out there, and you know, she
deserves what she needs from me as a husband, and
(14:26):
my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad. Look,
I think the wife, Giselle is saying, Look, Tom, I mean,
what is there left to do other than you're getting hurt? Right?
Other than you're getting seriously hurt. You've been fortunate to
not have a serious injury. You've played twenty two years
(14:48):
or whatever it is. Uh, let's get out you. You've
proved you can win without Belichick. I mean, remember she
had made the comment about Belichick not treating him properly.
So it's like you got away from him and won
it without even you won the divorce. Like and rob,
here's the thing, I don't think Tampa Bay. I mean,
they're gonna lose some guys. You remember stars. Yeah, so
(15:13):
I don't know, Yeah I do. Yeah, I mean he's
done it once obviously, And yeah, it's just I do
think Brady really wants to play. I think he's you know,
his competitive drive is as great as ever. But and
it's tough, Robbed. We've seen a few guys do it.
But I think it's tough to leave when you've got
(15:34):
stuff left in the tank. But here's the thing. When
we saw it with Peyton Manning, rob it comes quickly.
Remember Peyton Manning's last year, he was a show of himself.
The year before that he was he was very good.
And I mean just just like that. So you never know, Uh,
if you're Brady and you hate to get into the
(15:55):
you know, early in the season, robe four games in
and realize I don't have it anymore. I look, badd
you know, you know in your mind you're not that
good anymore. But but but I still think it comes
down to what you said earlier, which is more so
Chris or what his wife would be saying, get out
while you still have your health, Like what what is
There's nothing else to gain here. No, not if he
(16:17):
had won. If let's say he hyperthectly won the Super
Bowl this year or next year, it doesn't add anything.
I mean, his legacy is like ridiculous. It's just it's
pretty much yeah, well it's I mean, you know, like
it's just it's it's there's nothing, absolutely nothing left to prove.
(16:37):
But you don't want to get snapped in to right
other than getting hurt seriously and quickly before I know,
you want to get into Brady The year before Peyton
second to last year Rob thirty nine touchdowns, forty seven
hundred yards passing, and then the last year nine touchdowns,
seventeen picks. Ye yeah, twenty two hundred yards passing. So
(17:02):
that's how quickly it can happen. He was still like,
it was still like he's at the top of his game, right,
He's thinking great, and then all of a sudden he
falls off, So yeah, it's gonna I don't think he
wants to retire, Rob, but it's probably It might be
the smart move, the best move. I thought yesterday was
just a typical Brady And I know a lot of
(17:22):
people were watching and all the Brady minions. Oh, I know,
because Christie were excited when he tied the game and
and everybody, and you know, no, I know, I'm just saying,
well when he tied it, because they shouldn't have been
in that game. You even text later like the Bucks
didn't deserve to win that game. I wouldn't even Rob,
you know how we are when you make a pick.
(17:47):
Like when they lost, it was just like they didn't
deserve Yeah, I would have been hyped if they had
won it, but it was like day they didn't deserve that.
They were totally steal in that game, totally and that's
what happens, and they needed the Rams to do what
they did. Chris, I mean, four fumbles, I don't even know,
Rob G did anybody ever make it? Did they make
(18:07):
Chris talk about the last time a playoff team fumbled?
Lost four fumbles in the game. Now it was I mean,
and even if you want to give them credit for
the three fumbles by a Cup and cam Akers Cooper
Cup right, the snap over Stafford's hand or two is right,
(18:27):
you know when he wasn't even looking right. That is
just total a blunder on the Rams part. And then
them here's the other thing, Rob Matt Gay, who obviously
kicked the game when a field goal he missed the
forty seven yard or earlier Ribs short. I can't remember
the last time I saw a forty seven yard kids
short run. That's it was terrible when you know weather conditions.
(18:50):
And don't forget one of those fumbles too, Chris was
right before the first half end yea the one yard line. Yeah,
that they should have been up twenty seven to that
game would have been over. I mean, it was just
a comedy of errors. But Brady's luck finally ran out.
Because Brady has had so many situations where it's worked
(19:12):
out for him and teams have collapsed folded. Now, obviously
he has to finish the job, Chris once they turn
it over to him. But the Rams gave him a
chance to tie the game, and they could have easily
been saying, you know, they don't get the field goal
at Stafford got at the end, and it goes into overtime,
(19:34):
you don't get the ball, Brady throws a touchdown and
you lose that. It could have been rid. Look if
they had stopped there. I mean, I'm gonna tell you this.
Once they tied it up, I thought they were gonna
win the game. That's what I'm because forty seconds, forty
two seconds left, you know, as you're saying, we've seen it,
that's enough time for a guy to get in field
(19:55):
goal rings. So I was a little concerned about that,
But I felt like they're gonna win. They're gonna get
into overtime, they got all the momentum, and it's gonna
be an I mean, not Rob, I honestly think. I mean,
it's what the super Bowl they were down twenty eight
three in the third quarter, like this to me almost
felt more improbable than the Super Bowl when they came
(20:18):
back on Atlanta. It probably wasn't. But maybe I was
just in the moment yesterday, but that it Maybe it
was the way it was happening too. It was the
fumbles left and rioted right, the rams were making it
was it was self induced, right, and and Okay, so
Rob g just sent me this note, Chris. According to
a lit of Sports Bureau research, the only team to
(20:42):
lose a twenty four point lead in a playoff game
and still win was the Chargers in nineteen eighty one. Yeah,
wasn't that Miami? Was that Miami? Was that that game?
That was? Yeah? I watched that game in the in
the heat of Miami and key no, no, no no, I
meant watched yeah, yeah, yeah, I was a kid, but
(21:07):
I watched that game. And I remember Kellen Winslow walking
off the field Chris with smoke, you know, the moisture
coming off his body, like it was so hot and
humid down there for that game. And the Rams became
the first team to win a playoff game after losing
four or more fumbles since the nineteen seventy five Stealers
(21:30):
in the AFC Championship. So that doesn't happen. You have
to go all the way back to nineteen seventy five,
and they were able to win. But I really think,
like this is this should be it for Brady. I
think Brady, you know, like he's been fortunated. He's had
a great career. You know, he's been awful, lucky you know,
take the side your luck ran out this time, partner,
(21:53):
you know, pack up with bags and decide like, I
don't want to get hurt. I don't want to go
out like that. No one's gonna be mad at you.
You know what. Actually, and Chris, the way he went
out with tying the game, you know what I mean, Like,
it's not like he went out and they got dropped
forty five to three. Your lasting memory is Brady actually
(22:16):
tying the game in a game they had no business time.
That's that's right, absolutely, Like you, even though he certainly
wasn't at his best, and you know he didn't play
a great guy, Stafford out played him. You he did,
you know, he got him in position to win. You
you won't look at that and say, oh, Brady was horrible.
I mean through for three twenty nine through the time
(22:38):
was the time touchdown the fifty yard or beat Jalen Ramsey,
so and and and just what he did this regular season?
Rob Like this is as close as it gets to
going out on top without winning a super Bowl. You know, Like,
I don't think it's a bad exit, Chris, It's not
bad exit. And you could also use the whole uh
(22:59):
the Bucks are changing from what they want, losing a
lot of people. I don't, you know, I don't. I'm too,
I don't. I don't want to rebuild or start over.
We had a good team. Everybody's kind of moved on
and people and things are going. If Gronk retires and
some of these other guys leave for better offers, you
know what, I may be he's gone with God, right,
(23:21):
who knows what'll happened with him now? It robbed, it's
and that's the thing, like I only think, which is
completely understandable. I think it'd be the case with anybody
at that age. He only wants to play for a
super Bowl, and I just don't know that. I mean,
it doesn't look like Tampa Bay's gonna be in position
to really seriously compete for one next year, right, and
(23:44):
so why like it would be? And we talked about,
I mean, as much as I like Brady, I don't
want to see him play till he's fifty. No, I don't.
And I wouldn't want to see not because it'll it
obviously won't take his legacy or not even because I
like him and I don't want to see him look bad.
It just wouldn't. It would just feel like if he's
(24:06):
out there playing next year, Rob and there, you know,
eight nine, and you know he's he's okay, but he's
just you know deep, you don't want to do this.
They won thirteen games this year. They went the playoffs,
they went to the second round and they almost pulled
out a miracle win and whatnot. So that would be good.
(24:27):
Let me just give you this, Chris, one more thing
about that nineteen eighty one, the nineteen eighty one I
was I was that playoff game. That's Miami. In addition
to his block field goal, Kellen Winslow, who was a
Grade of Hall of Fame wide receiver, Chris you remember him, right,
everybody does, recorded an NFL playoff record thirteen receptions for
(24:53):
one hundred and sixty six yards and a touchdown. Now,
back then, that was a lot of oh yeah, thirteen
in one game. A lot was a lot, okay. And
he had a numerous injuries during the game. And during
the game he also was treated for a pinch nerve
and his shoulder, dehydration, UH, severe cramps, and a gash
(25:13):
of his on his lower lip that required stitches. It
was an epic epic battle. One of the great eighty
eight was the score and I remember Rob Tony Nathan
remember the running back from Miami and he had like
over a hundred big game receiving, you know, one hundred
yards or something receiving. Um played big in that comeback.
(25:35):
So go out that game. You should watch it. If
you have a have a free you know, Saturday or something,
you're not doing anything, watch that was That's when men
were men. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then Rob Parker weekdays at
seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app and then Saturday night San Francisco,
(25:59):
Green Bay and Rob. We talked about it last week,
what would it mean for Aaron Rodgers to lose this
game and how it would affect his legacy. And look,
when we talk about his legacy, obviously he's a first
ballot Hall of Famer. He's still, you know, a terrific
(26:22):
quarterback and one of the best we've ever seen throwing
the football. But Rob, I've seen it now. It seems
like year after year he doesn't rise to the occasion
in the big moments. He did in the Super Bowl
eleven years ago. And he's got that ring and you
(26:42):
can never take that away from him. And that's a
big you know, that's a big part of his legacy.
He's not Dan Marino, but he If they're not gonna
win it, they aren't this year, when were they? When
are they gonna win it? I mean, you had a
top flight d defense that you kept saying last week,
and you were right. That's getting back some top flight defenders.
(27:06):
You got a great running game, the defense played great.
They gave me six points. You give up six points, Chris,
in a playoff game, six points, you win that game? Seriously?
And Rob the special teams is Will Blackman said, I
mean that the game right right? The special teams lost.
(27:27):
Anybody tells you that the special team didn't lose, well,
he probably didn't play well, right because you still here's
the thing. You still gotta give me more than ten points.
And I that San Francisco's defense is great, right, But
even Dak Press and then the Cowboys got seventeen and
Rob seventeen would have been enough. Dak Press got through
(27:48):
one touchdown, one touchdown pass would have been enough with
with what else you had and Rogers didn't deliver that
rob and you just look at his look at a
lot of the postseason, and we've put it all on
you know, in the past. The defense gave up forty four,
the defense gave up thirty seven, and that's true. But
if you also look at those games, you'll see that
(28:12):
Rogers also didn't deliver offensively like he typically does, like
he does in the regular season. You know, I mean
back to a lot of these games, and you'll if
you look at them, you'll see a lot of his
playoff half full good games all the way through four quarters.
(28:32):
It'd be like a bad first half, then he's gonna
fire the second half better than the second half, or
a very good first half like that Seattle lost years ago,
I don't know, twenty thirteen, fourteen, twelve, whatever it was,
and then a bad second half and overtime, and a
lot of those games where the defense gave up thirst
(28:53):
half where they're down twenty seven. Oh to San Francisco
in twenty nineteen, Yeah, the defense is a troll, just
twenty seven points, but he didn't put up any points either,
you know, or the d against twenty sixteen when Atlanta
had him down twenty four, oh at halftime, score forty
(29:13):
four in the game. Yeah, twenty four points to the
first half the diet's woodshed. But he didn't put up
any points either. And so Rob, like I said, there
are certain guys that rise to the occasion. Some of them.
I can't even hold Rogers jockstrap when it comes to,
(29:34):
you know, being a great quarterback like Eli probably be
a Hall of famer. You think he's a definitely Hall
of famer. I think you'll get in for his clutch
play in his playoff performances. He couldn't order candle the
Rogers as a quarterback, right. Jim Plunkett won two Super Bowls,
you know, So I just think Rogers, right, he's not,
(29:54):
as to use your phrasing, He's not that guy. He
doesn't rise to the occasion. He's a regular season but
in his ring. Again, can't take that away from him.
But he didn't rise to the occasion in the playoffs
for the most part. Yeah, I mean, I get it.
And we give quarterbacks too much credit when they win.
(30:15):
So Aaron Rodgers is gonna get beat up and the
COVID and all that. So there's I get all that.
And he didn't play well. He didn't play well enough,
but there were a lot of issues there. And here's
the other thing too. I mean, I'm looking at Josh Allen,
hum like I've seen this where you put up points
and your guys and it kind of reminded me of
the earlier. This is the first time I said this, Chris,
(30:38):
that I liked the Packers defense. They make plays, you
got an interception, they kept him, held him to six points.
They played I mean, you gotta win that game. There's
no doubt about um. But in Aaron Rodgers and I
get what you're saying and part of it, but when
you talk about ten five of his ten playoff losses,
(31:01):
that defense has given up thirty seven or more points,
and and and and and the other thing too is
um the defense And if you want to break down
some of the numbers. And here's the other one. Aaron
Rodgers who never got the ball back like like uh,
we just saw with uh Josh Allen like the same thing,
(31:21):
Like you play great, you score a touchdown and then
you don't get the ball back and the game is over.
So those things kind of happen. If if last night,
UM the great game that my homes had you would
have been kicking like the Kansas City defense, Like my god,
when they gave it up with thirteen seconds to go,
if you know what I mean, right, and you would
(31:42):
be like, what what else could my homes have done?
So I've seen those games, you know, and that's a
part of of um a part of his legacy. No, not,
not not at all because because those are unheard of numbers,
Like I don't think Tom Brady's were played. I think
he's played one playoff game where his defense gave up
(32:03):
forty or more. And I was in that Super Bowl,
right that they lost to the to the Eagles when
they score thirty when they score like thirty eight points.
And then the other thing too is you know, like
you can't have special teams play like that, Chris, We
now that that that you can't. We talked about Mike
McCarthy and the penalties all year and you needn't correct them, say,
(32:24):
and I like Matt Lafleur, but the same thing. All
year they had the worst special teams in the league.
And you know, you you scoff a special teams, right,
It's not that big of a deal, you know, you
think of it just as the kicker. But no, I
mean this shows you you better get your special teams
units together too. And think about this, Chris. The one
(32:44):
was right before the half, right, they throw the seventy
five yard here's here's the other thing. When they were
in the red zone. I think all Aaron Rodgers was
sacked on third down. They had three three makeshift offensive lineman,
but he got sacked three times, so they had to
go with the field goal. That would have put him
up ten nothing at the half with a defense that
played great, So they get the blocks. So all of
(33:06):
that first half for nothing, right, all, you're only up
seven nothing. Then they had another sack two and I
think they only got a field goal out of it
when they should have obviously got more. So there was
a lot of things, but he needed to play better.
They needed a big play from him, and one touchdown
probably would have done it. Uh. The idea that when
(33:26):
you let a team hang around and you don't put
them away like like this is two weeks in a
row now we've seen uh Jimmy Garoppolo win puff game
with no touchdowns because incredible, Chris, am I right? Like,
but he got zero touchdowns and a pick in in
(33:47):
both playoff wins and he beats If he beats the
Rams with no touchdowns, uh, this week, I'll be It'll
be unbelievable. And I'm not gonna praise him because he's
had better drives. You know, he's he's in the top
ten in game winning drives since like twenty nineteen, he's
had seven. UM, but he did make again, it wasn't
(34:08):
like he's had better drives Cincinnati in the regular season
of the Rams even but he did make those two
nice passes in that late drive. Um. You know that
that we're critical and got them to win in the
field goal position. So um. But he Yeah. I had
(34:29):
a friend of mine who who's smart about quarterbacks, but
he said he outplayed Rogers. I wouldn't go that far.
I don't think y'all played. I mean, he did make
some nice little throws in the clutch, yeah, but he
did not play. But Rob Yeah, I don't know if
we saw this the bomb that Rogers threw at the
end of DeVante Adams with about three minutes left, three
(34:50):
and a half, which I thought Rogers was throwing it
up like look, we're either gonna catch this and this day, well,
I thought he was thinking, or it's a punt, right,
it's a punt, and so right right, he didn't even
like it was almost he just heaved it, like but
Alan Lazard was wide open in the middle of the field,
(35:13):
wide open, rob like twenty yards downfield. If he hits him,
they probably get in field goal presented position and maybe
win that game. And I just thought, Roger, look, he
had twenty completions. Eighteen of them were the DeVante Adams
and Aaron Jones, Like he didn't spread the field. It's
(35:34):
almost like he wasn't looking at these other receivers. And
again he just he just didn't get it done. And
I just think that that's a you know, it's on
his legacy and it's something that people are gonna remember.
I want to just give you one other number. We're
just talking about the thirty seven points or more. Brady
Brady defense ready for this has given up thirty seven
(35:57):
points just eight times and it's a tire cows no
in his entire career. Oh wow, think about that number.
That's an incredible number. And we're talking about that's happened
to Aaron Rodgers five times and ten playoff losses. So
it's just a comparison that doesn't excuse what he How
he played on Saturday and they were out of the
playoffs is unbelievable that the two number one seeds that
(36:21):
had the week off and all that to prepare and
be ready and they didn't get it there. What do
you think, Rob, what do you think he should do?
Will do? That's a good question. I don't know. I mean,
where are you going? I mean I don't know where.
There's really no place better that's realistic. Like, I don't
(36:42):
really want to get Pittsburgh. If he goes to Pittsburgh,
I'll be happy because I like Mike Tomlin. They got
good defense. You know, he's got good receivers, so they're
gonna be good. But if I'm him, I'm like, why
would I go to the AFC where you got not
only Patrick Mahons, you got Josh Glow, justin Herbert, don't
(37:02):
forget about Lamar right right, yeah, all pretty much all
the great young quarterbacks are in the AFC. And then
if you look, so Denver is there too, I mean,
so Denver, that's the same. That's a great point. That's
a great point that there's there's there's nowhere to hide.
I just feel like, like New Orleans, I would love
(37:24):
if Sean Payton stays, but I don't know, they really
don't seem to have any groups that he might take
over for Troy Yankman on Fox did you see Yeah, yeah,
I saw that so um. But they say there's no
way they can really get him in New Orleans. But Rob,
other than New Orleans in the NFC, where where is
there a better situation than Green Bay? I just wonder,
(37:46):
is it so? You know, is there a feeling now
in Green Bay? Like my it just isn't meant to be. Yeah,
it might mean, you know what I mean? Because every
year they've had these games in the last too, like
and before all those NFC games were on the road,
but the last two years they were at home. Yeah,
well they want in the NFC Championship, but you know
(38:07):
what I mean, they lost at home in the playoffs
the last two years. And I'll say, I'm gonna say this,
and I think you're on board. I think you're on
board with me. Rob. There's a lot of troll in
the Aaron Rodgers what they called him, bright bart Star
and throw rogueing, you know, for his views I don't
hold that against him at all. No, I don't hold
(38:30):
personal views against them when I'm critiquing them. I'm criatiguing
them totally from sports because I don't want anybody to
hold my personal views against me. They might disagree with
my views, and I disagree with a lot of athletes
views that aren't just like what Aaron Rodgers anti vax
and all that, So I don't that to me. For me,
A lot of people are happy that Rodgers lost Rode
(38:51):
because of that. That has nothing to do with my views, right,
I'm with you on that. I just think it's easy,
you know, to want to you know, oh see he lost,
you know what I mean, and been pyelon him or whatever.
But but other than he should get the blame because
we give the quarterbacks all the praise when they win,
(39:12):
he should get He should get the blame on a
loss as well, because had he thrown a touchdown Chris
at the end, or he would come in field position,
he would have gotten all the love, just like here's
the one would have over lining for Rogers. And again,
assuming he comes back. Peyton Manny rob thirty eight years
old in Denver, coming off a great year had the
(39:37):
same was now he had been to three super Bowls,
but he had only won one, and he robbed. He
was eleven and thirteen going into his last year. Then
his last year, he's a shell of himself as a
terrible season. They win the super Bowl and all we
remember is that he's a multiple super Bowl winner. And
not only that, the first term for Rodgers, the first
(39:59):
quarterback to win to a super Bowl with two different teams. Right,
he has like a he has you don't look at him.
Remember there was a lot of talk about Peyton Manning
choking in the playoffs before you don't, we haven't don't
really think about that anymore. So there was time for Rodgers. Um,
but it's just a matter where's he gonna end up
and Willie finally get it done
