(00:22):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Brussa and Rod Harker Draymond Green. There's a story
in The Athletic Today about the Warriors, and you know
how that. I mean, they're gonna become awfully, awfully expensive.
They're already awfully expensive. Anybody can become awfully awfully expensive.

(00:43):
You're gonna trade or you're gonna pay Andrew Wiggins, You're
gonna pay Jordan Pool. Of course, you got Steph Clay
and Draymond. Draymond being a high salary guy. Draymond Green
rob After next season, when he's gonna make twenty five
point eight million, he has another year on his deal,

(01:05):
but it's a player option at twenty seven and a
half million, Draymond wants a Max level extension. Draymond wants
a four. What is a four year one hundred and
thirty eight million dollars extension, and look, I will be
I will say Draymond Green is a first ballot, Well,

(01:28):
he's a Hall of Famer, probably will be first ballot,
but he's a Hall of famer. Draymond Green is one
of the best defenders of this era and in all time.
I'll give him some love. Draymond Green has been an
integral part of the Warriors dynasty. Obviously, he's played well.

(01:52):
He's a unique player. I love his skills. I loved
him back at Michigan State. Rob. He's a nice playmaker,
he's got court vision obviously, the defender good great pass
or very good pass or I should say unselfish game
and brings that life and that energy and that spunk
that these Warriors need. And Rob, yeah, heck, you gotta

(02:16):
give him credit, I guess. Or even helping get Kevin
Durant there, right, he was the lynchpin to getting Durant there.
And so he's been a huge part of this dynasty
for the Warriors. So I don't want to discount what
he's done. But there is no way on God's green
earth I would give Draymond Green a max level extension

(02:40):
at this stage of his career. I'm sorry. Now I'm
looking at it like, look, let's not even talk about it.
Let's see what you do next year. I don't have
to say that to Draymond if I'm the Warriors, but
that's what I'm thinking. You You struggled mightily for the
bulk of the finals. He came on, had a couple,
you know, nice moments late in the finals, but for

(03:00):
the most part, you struggled, all right, So let's not
talk about an extension of this magnitude. Just go out
and ball next year. Let's see what you do next season.
And even then, Rob, even if he plays great. I mean,
I'm sorry, I'm really not thinking extension, not max level
for Draymond. Chris. Can you ask me if I think

(03:23):
Draymond Green deserves a MAX level extension, Rob Parker. Does
Draymond Green deserve a MAX level extension? Yes, way, yes, how,
but not from the Golden State Warriors. Let callin cow
Her give it to him on the podcast network on

(03:46):
the volume that's where he's an MVP. Colin, dig deep
into your pocket, because Draymond it ain't coming from the
basketball world. I'm sorry, A max extension. Are you kidding?
You had me there, man, I got you really thought.
I was like, what what are you talking about? Draymond?

(04:08):
Your days on the basketball court, getting a max deal?
Forget about it now. If you want to go ahead
and get into your podcast and think you're a podcast MVP,
pony up and make pick up the phone and talk
to your boss, Colin Cowherd. Colin, is this on, Colin?

(04:31):
He's your star on the volume. He's making waves. He
made more waves during the final in front of a
microphone than he did on the court. That's Raymond is
a podcast. The fact that's funny line, that's a fact.
He's a podcaster. Chris a better podcaster than he is
a All Star Max contract level player. I'm not saying

(04:55):
he can't play anymore, but not at that level. The
Warriors aren't drunk from the confetti of the of the parade.
Then they're like, oh yeah, just give anybody money, Draymond,
what do you want? We'll back up the brinks truck.
They must have been like a real talk. They covered
the microphone at the offices at the Warriors, Chris, they

(05:18):
covered him up and they laughed, and I staid, hysteria.
Are you kidding me? Draymond's asking for it a next contract, Man,
he must be drunk talking into that microphone because you
are not worth it. Once again, Golden State. Laugh all
you want at the comment. But Draymond, if you're serious

(05:40):
about it and that's what you want, go on your
podcast it's called the Volume. Pick up the phone and
call Colin and tell Colin Colin you want a max
talent podcast level contract and that's what you deserve, and
that's what you should get. I hear you, because he

(06:02):
did that. Like I said, that was not just a
funny line. Rob, Draymond did make more ways with his
podcast than he did with his game, no doubt. And
now again, like you said, we're not saying he can't
play anymore. He was bad at points in the finals,
but I still got you know, he's I have respect

(06:23):
still for what he can do on the court. But
there's no way now there is a caveat well, let
me throw this out first. Supposedly Draymond's willing to look elsewhere.
Come on, who else is offering him the max? You
ain't getting. He's not getting the max anywhere? All right? Yeah,
team might take trade might take him, might offer him
a free agent deal, but it won't be for the max.

(06:44):
That's what darn If he's looking elsewhere, is he looking
at the Bleacher Report? Is that where could be because
of the more media right media outlets, he might he
might be t and t because Chuck might take the
sixty million and that might be it. But that could
right right, here's the caveat in this story, body athletic

(07:08):
where Draymond you know they talks about this or the
sources say he wants a max level. Multiple sources also
said Steph Curry would not be happy if the Warriors
lost Green because the team didn't want to pay him. Now.
Steph is under contract for four more years, but he

(07:28):
wants Draymond and Clay to be with I don't even
care what Steph says. If I'm ownership, there's no way
I'm gonna do that. I just it would be irresponsible
Chris financially to give Draymond a MAX contract extension. I'm sorry,
I understand you want to hold it together, but they

(07:49):
are parameters in this and we just can't open up
and pay everybody. Yeah, and there are a few few
factors here too. Rob Number one I don't think stephily
ever leave Golden State, right, I mean that that is
his team, that's his franchise. They're still good. I get it.
At the end of his career, maybe they won't be

(08:10):
any good, but I don't. I just don't see him
leaving unless it's a horrible situation. They're in Golden State,
and I not as much as he loves Draymond. And
that's real, Like, obviously those guys have been through the
wars and they certainly have a lot of love for
each other. I look and I get it. It wasn't

(08:31):
the same just because of the length, but Rob you
know this, Steph loved Mark Jackson. Steph was high on
Mark Jackson. They shared the same Christian faith. Mark was
a huge believer in Steph when a lot of people
didn't believe in him and Clay and he what happened
when Mark left, he just kept it moving. He you know,

(08:55):
he missed him and all that, but he kept it moving,
gave Steve courage, chance and the rest of his history.
So I don't think. Yeah, I think he'd be bothered
if Draymond's not there. I think he'd missed him, But
I don't think he would, you know, make a stink
over it or anything like that, like it would ruin
his relationship with the Warriors. No, and I look at

(09:18):
Steph as like like a Jeter and Aaron Rodgers. You
remember Chris I had talked about that. I didn't believe
he was leaving Green Bay. Remember, I kept saying it
was either he's gonna retire or he's gonna resign there
and Jeter played with the Yankees for twenty years. Steph
will player's entire career. I think Chris hello high water
because he's one enough. There was two bad years at

(09:41):
the end, It's okay, you know what I mean? Like that,
that's natural. He's already done the body of his work.

Birds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you

talked about Jaylen Brown and his name being in these
trade rumors for Kevin Durant. His teammate Jason Tatum's name

(10:51):
is not in the trade rumors, and Tatum actually has
a relationship with Durant. He was at Durant's screen mean
last night of the new movie Point Gods. Congratulations Kevin Durant.
I'm sure it sounds great. I definitely wanted to check
it out. But Jesson Tadams was among those players. Yeah,

(11:15):
j didn't get players players. Uh, that was there last night,
And of course on the red carpet Rob where the
media was he was asked, of course about the trade
rumors that, uh, at least potentially you're saying Kevin Duranta
wind up with him in Boston. He handled it. I

(11:38):
thought he handled it well. Others didn't think so, but
I did. Here's what he said. I mean I played
with him. That's a great player. I love our team.
Now we got two. I love our team right, Like
I said, I just bought that play for my team. Quickly, Rob,

(12:06):
before we get into the meat of this conversation, do
you have any problem with what Tatum said? No? I
mean what he said I think was legit, and that's
what you should say. He didn't throw his teammates under
the bus. Didn't. Oh yeah, we gotta get Kadi, you know,
like Jaylen Brown can't come back and be like, dude,
what do you what are you doing? You know what
I mean? And he was complimentary of k d so

(12:30):
like I thought, he handled himself well. But here's the
question I want to throw at you, Rob, should Jason
Tatum what Kevin Durant? We both have been saying, Look,
if they can get it, I mean I have I
think you have it. You agree, if Boston can get

(12:50):
Kevin Durant without giving up Jason Tatum, do it. I
think it would make them the favorites in the Eastern Conference,
if not the entire league. So I would do it
as much as I like Jaylen Brown, but this is
what I'm throwing at. You should Jayson Tatum, a two
time first team All NBA guys, including this season, I

(13:12):
would played Kevin Durant in the playoffs. Should he want
Kevin Durant in Boston? No, I don't think he should.
I really don't. I don't think he should. Now, if
the organization goes out Chris and they do it, I'm
not saying you're gonna reject him, but I'm saying, like
him out there saying, yeah, I want. Privately, of course

(13:36):
he shouldn't go to bat for it. We know that,
but privately, you know, Okay, I just I don't believe
he should. I believe he should look at it and
go look at where I've gone so far without anybody,
right the Eastern Conference finals, what they've been three times,
went to they went, They went to the finals last
this past season without him. I beat Kevin Durant. I

(13:58):
beat Yanni's on the way. You know, like I want
to do my own thing, and Yannis did that, and
I think Janni's got a lot of respect for it.
And I think if if you're Jason Tatum, the problem
is if when Durant joins, you automatically become the number
two guy, and you don't get full credit for what

(14:18):
has just happened because you got a all time great
who joined you. And if you're on the same team
with him, he's the better player. There's no if ands
or butts. I don't care how well you play. People
look at him and think Kevin Durant's the better player
of the two. So that's why I think, from his
own legacy wanting to do his own thing, if he

(14:41):
was able to win a championship Chris's past year, and
had they beat Steph and those guys, it would have
been a big feather. You know, people were trying to
crown him too early. Remember that Jason Tatums like, like,
you gotta win first, And I think if I was
this close, it's not like he's third, and I don't
know if I'm gonna win, right, Jason Tatums Chris twenty four,

(15:04):
twenty four, He's not even twenty four and a half.
This is what I'm trying to tell you. It's like, no,
you got time. If you were thirty, Chris and you
couldn't get there. And now it's been ten years and
you just can't get over the hum. Maybe I'll buy
into that. But he's young, He's done a lot, not enough,

(15:25):
but he's done a lot, and I think I want
to give me a few more years to try to
make this happen on my own before you bringing a
guy that I'm gonna have to take a backseat too.
That's just me. I'd rather do it that way. Ry Parker,
stop it, you're mi sugarner. I mean what what? What? Yes?

(15:55):
I mean? Look, I didn't have a problem with Steph
bringing on KD. I did, now he didn't. He got
four rings. Now he got two with KD two without
him days he didn't rob park of their teammates. Did
Magic Johnson take Kareem Abdul Jabbar's lunch money? Took his

(16:15):
money back? But he was the man for the last
four titles. Magic was the Lakers best player for the
Kareem's last four titles. If you want to argue the
fourth or the third one for Kareem, he certainly was
the best player for the last three, and I would
say four because the fourth the third title for Kareem

(16:36):
in eighty two, Magic let him in rebounding, rebounding over
Kareem assists, steals and average eighteen points to Kareem's twenty three.
So but nobody looks at that and pooh Poo's Kareem
When when when most did Moses below take Doctor Jay's
lunch money? No, but it became his team. He was

(17:00):
the man. But in that case, when Kevin Durant showed up,
he won those two finals MVP was finals MVP two
and Magic was finals MVP and eighty two Worthy was
once Karee was one out of his last four rings. Say,
like their teammates, you're trying to win, and I think

(17:21):
years I would do it. Here's the other thing, Rob,
to your point when we have different ways of looking
at it, but you do make a good point. I
think that boast might boost my argument. When you say
your tatum's not thirty, I guess it could be. It
kind of boos shorts too. It can be looked at
different ways, but I look at it this way, Rob,

(17:44):
he's twenty four. If he gets how many years great
years did Durant have left? Three? I think three is
like Max. And I say that not because his game's
gonna like leave him, but because of his health. Like
we all We've said it, and I had nause him.
He's only played ninety games in the last three years.

(18:07):
So if they get three good years out of there,
like great Kevin Durant type years, they're great. And what
if he and Tatum win just one title? But don't
even get me starting on if they win two. But
if they just win one title, like Jason Tatum has
the rest of his career, He's got at least a

(18:30):
decade probably more, to win a title on his own.
So I just think, now, if I'm Jason Tatum and
I get it, You're right, there's no way I'm going
out there publicly. I'm not even going to the front
office and being like, look, let's get this done. I'm
staying out of it because I don't know what his
relationship with Jaylen Brown is, but obviously they make a

(18:52):
good tandem on the court. And if the trade doesn't happen,
you know, you don't want any secrets, you don't want
any tension, so I stay out of All you need
is one person in that Celtics front office to tell
their friend that that he came up there politicking for
k D and you know that, and then they poison

(19:15):
the well and say he was up there pushing forward
and whatever, whatever didn't happen, and that's all it takes.
That's why I say you want to stay, stay out
as much as you can, because it can come back
to bite you. But see, I I just I can't
believe you're saying Jason Tatum shouldn't want Kevin Durant because

(19:42):
I think he wants to win. And I look, I
do think Durant is better than Tatum, but Tatum's a
better defender at this point for sure. Um, And I
don't know who would play better. Maybe maybe Tatum might
play better. You know that turnovers. I'm just saying, well, no,

(20:03):
but he's young and maybe he learned from it. You know,
we've seen bad. Le Brown was bad in his first finals,
Larry Bird had two eight point games in his first finals,
had cornbread. Maxwell with all due respect was the finals MVP,
and Birds first championship. So guys can get better in
the finals. Um, but yeah, Rob, I just I'm sorry, Like,

(20:24):
I can't believe that you would say Jason Tatum shouldn't
want Kevin Durant. No, I just wouldn't do it. I
want to do it. On Is it about being selfish
a credit or is it about winning especially it's not
like he's gonna become a role player. No, she's gonna
be doing this thing getting you got something going already.

(20:44):
I don't need you. They Yes, they went finals. They
went to the finals. So are they your favorite in
the East right now? No? But but it's okay, there's
still but it's still the point of I want Yannis
did his own thing. Everybody ridiculed Jannis for staying in
Milwall hockey Chris, but hold on all you think would
have And Yannis got points. He's got points from people

(21:06):
in that stage because J. J. Reddick didn't even have
him in the top three. We did a segment on
I don't know if you were here for that, Rob G.
We did a segment on guys this in Yannis like
our dudes, you know, underestimating Yannis. Well, so I don't
know that he got And I'll say this one is
JJ Reddick's not the only one. It was, Rob G.

(21:29):
Look get on here when you can. Because we had
a whole list of guys I think Barkley had says
something about Yannis. There were there was a list of guys,
certainly better players than Reddick. But Rob, I get what
you and we've talked about that. Yes, it looks better
for Yannis that he won the championship in Milwaukee without
a second superstar, But I don't It's different if the

(21:52):
dude comes to your team, like Kevin Durant is coming
to Tatums. He's not granted he'll become the best player,
we believe, but he's still going to your team. It's
not like Tatum's running to him. Oh I gotta win,
so I'm going to his team. But the story would
be Tatum couldn't get it done, he went to three

(22:13):
Eastern Conference finals, he went to a championship, couldn't get
it done. No, I'm just saying, and Kevin Durant showed
up and now they won. That's the storyline, Chris, that
would be the story. I actually think you can. I mean,
I don't think you think that would not. Do you
think that wouldn't be the story? No, I don't think
that would be the story. And I do think that

(22:33):
there's a potential backlash against Durant because, yeah, I get it,
Golden State was a far better team and had already
won a championship than this Boston team would what is
But it's similar Rob Boston. The Golden State beat Durant
in the playoffs an embarrassing fashion, coming back from a

(22:54):
three one deficit in the conference finals. Boston beat Durant
in an embarrassing playoffs, sweeping him and Tatum out playing him.
They both Golden State and Boston get to the finals
and actually play well even though they lose. And then
Durant goes to a team that just reached the finals
and beat him in the playoffs. I mean, I think

(23:15):
there are people that might look at it that where like, dude,
we thought you wanted to, like prove you could lead
a team. It's the same thing you didn't Golden State
almost not quite, but very darn near close. And so
I think I don't think it hurts Tatum at all,
especially if he plays well. Now, if he is in
the finals and MUCKs it up again and doesn't play

(23:35):
well and Durant just clearly carries him and he's getting
very little help from Tatum to turnover machine, that's one thing.
But if Tatum plays well, even if he's the second
best player, I don't think it hurts him. At twenty

It's shop talk, that's right, it is shop talk. Here
on the odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio, a segment
we discuss something that been outside of the world is sports,
And this week we're cheating a little bit because this

(24:19):
one does come from the world of sports. I don't
know if you guys saw this or not, but Jimmy
Butler had pictures of him floating around the interwebs earlier
today getting his workout in in the off season. However,
Internet sleuth noticed that Jimmy Butler suddenly has dreadlocks, which
wouldn't be that big of a deal except that the
season just ended a few uh what month ago? Two months? Adays?

(24:47):
Here is the question, what's the bigger Man card violation?
Having extensions or fake hair put in or dying the
hair that you already have. Christ I'm sorry, it's obviously
there is nothing wrong with dying habit talk go talk

(25:10):
to war Frasier. One of the best to ever do it.
You're my favorite. Yeah, how about that? These dreads are right, Mike,
I'm just seeing this. I didn't see the pit. They're long, Yeah,
it's it's their extensions. You saw him, Rob, Yes, Yeah,
I thought they were little natty dreads at the top.

(25:30):
You know what I mean. That's one thing that takes
a lot for God to put fake hare in his hair. No,
that's uh, well, he do it yourself. Women did women
do it? But I'm talking about man, I don't know
what I look. Dudes wear two pays and junk like that.
I would never. But would you wear a tupac? I

(25:54):
doubt it. I think about Rob, you gotta would you
wear a tupac? Never? I can't wait to get old.
But you know what, I think there are people that
wear two pays that we don't know of, and it
looks good. They got their hair. Yeah, the balding community
is rising, so absolutely, it's a big thing. Now, would
you wear to pay? Oh? I would rather wear to

(26:14):
pay than dye my hair first? You know that? Absolutely? Wow? Wow,
there's absolutely nothing wrong with I'm just kidding. No, But
but I look I I would. I don't think i'd
wear a two pay, But like I said, I don't
look down on a guy that wear if it looks good,
if it looked like if it looks natural. You see

(26:35):
a natural looking two page. Yeah, I don't know. I
think some people have had two pays that we are.
I'm gonna say this. I'm not gonname There is a
guy that I'm a fan of. He's a preacher, actually
a preacher. I'm not gonna name names. And I've wondered
if it's a two pay. It looks good though it

(26:55):
doesn't look like you know, it doesn't look fake. But
I'm just seeing a few things in there. I'm wondering
this is a tooth pay, but it looks good. So
if it looks natural, I'm fine with it. But this
is I gotta be honest, right, I don't I don't
really know if any guys that I whether I know
him personally or just as as an observer, I've never
seen a guy put those types of extensions in their hair. Yeah,

(27:18):
I guess Rick James did he do it? Kind of amazing.
I just I think whatever God has given you, you
try to make the best of it. If you have
short hair, you kind of figure it out. There's plenty
of guys on television with no hair, so it doesn't
stop you work wise. So I just I wouldn't wear
toothpay and you see my hair, Chris turning whiter by

(27:39):
the day, like you didn't want to do something about that.
I'm not doing a guy. I know a guy. I
know a substance. We got about thirty seconds quickly more
to gregious hairstyle. Here, Jimmy Butler with the fake dredger,
Lebron with the fake hairline. N I don't know, I'm
gonna say, jim Me James. Yeah, but yeah, because Lebron

(28:03):
has his sprayed on, right, Yeah, No, I think it's
some type of powder. I don't know. I mean that's
why after every game he has to do reg on
because he sweats it out as the game goes on.
Looks I'll tell you what though, in movies and stuff,
it looks good, Like when he's in an environment where
you don't have to hoop, it looks good. I think

(28:24):
it's the fake dreads. Just grow him out, Jimmy, all right,
it's the eye couple. We got an hour left. You
