Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. It's so good to
be back where the hell you've been. We've been waiting
around for months and months. We will get into all
the good stuff here coming up over the next couple
hours here on Fox Sports Radio. It's Jonas Knocks with
you here on fs ARE you can hang out with
us as always on the I Heart Radio app. You
can find us on hundreds of affiliates all across the
(00:24):
country and wherever you are making us a part of
your Saturday morning. We appreciate you doing so, and we
are going to take you all. Jonas Knocks, we just
lost connection with him. Hope to get that back in
just a moment. But I got a feeling that as
we soon get Jonas back, that we're gonna have a
lot to talk about. Producer Danny g. College football is
going on, and I think the biggest surprise for me
(00:46):
right now, Danny is watching Iola's often so inept in
a game that's the on FS wanting in South Dakota State.
It's three three. Wait, you're watching that one. I'm watching Michigan.
Just put on a route. Well there's that one. We've
got also Texas St. M and all the question marks
around their quarterback situation. It looks like Haynes king Is
(01:07):
is stepping up in a big way for and and
Emmy's got two touchdowns and two one yards seventeen and
nothing and m over Sam Houston stayed a lot of
these games, these early morning games or through halftime. Jonas knocks,
let's hand it off back to you. There is everybody's
a little rusty here. It's our first college football Saturday
(01:29):
and months and months and months. But we are excited
to have you guys back, and we are excited to
be back on the air here on Fox Sports Trading.
By the way, you already met your family quota for
the entire two hours. Oh did I am? I good?
All right? So you're telling me we don't have to
hear from Brian Finley for the next two hours. I
mean that would be a crime, a crime to humanity
here on FS are Finley, I'm not going to treat
(01:50):
you like some of the other people a courtesy of
the Mallard militia treat you. You're gonna be treated with
respect on this show. I just want you to know that.
I mean, on that show, Jonas, I get hazed. I
absolutely get tortured and tormented and they take pleasure in
my pain and stuff. That's all right. Listen, it's gonna
be a fun ride here and uh and we are
all excited to pay close attention to what is happening
(02:12):
right now in Iowa City, where where my South Dakota
State jack Rabbits are are are really competing at a
high level with the Iowa Hawkeyes, who have already hit
their season total of points and then some with three
through the first half of football on Fox Sports one.
So we will get into all that good stuff here
and we're gonna bust some balls and use the usual
(02:33):
shenanigans here on fs ARE for the next couple hours
here as we take you all the way up until
four pm Eastern time, one o'clock Pacific. So let's let's
just let's talk about the real story here. College football's
back right now. There's a lot of people out there
who don't want to do the comp game, and I
don't want to do the comp game either. When it
comes to well, it's not as good as the NFL,
(02:54):
and it's not bro It's on another level when it
comes to where you judge and how you watch and
how you take in college football, and if anything was
an indicator, we had our our Week one matchups are
week zero if you want to be if you want
to be dismissive of those games last week. That was
all fun. And then you get to Thursday night. You
(03:16):
see the numbers that came out for Penn State and Purdue.
You see the backyard brawl, you see all the stuff,
the scenes, the excitement, the crowd, the energy. College football
should be compared differently than it is to the NFL currently,
because a lot of people that aren't as big into
college football, they'll tell you, yeah, but the quality of
plays not as good. Who's who's disputing that, that's not
(03:38):
even the discussion. But when you talk to enough people,
and you talk to enough people who tell you, I've
been to NFL games, I've covered college football, it's on
a different playing level. It's on a different as far
as scenes go and energy and excitement and the way
it's presented. It's just on another level. So the fact
that it's here, the fact that we had to wait
all this time to get college football back, everybody's excited
(04:01):
about it, the vibes, the energy, all of that, and
the best part is It is wall to wall coverage
here on Fox Sports Radio from the morning all the
way too late at night. It's why you see the
Big ten uh TV rights deal at what eight billion
dollars because everybody wants to be involved in this. This
is why college football and this is gonna piss off
(04:23):
a lot of NBA fans, and it already does. It's
the second most popular sport in this country. Football is
king in this country. The NFL's number one and college
football is number two. But college football has carved that
a niche for itself in which you can judge it
just based on itself. You don't have to compare the
quality of play. You don't have to talk about all
(04:43):
the OWL also rans in different colleges or different places
across the country. You go to a conference like the
Big Ten, and everybody's talking about Ohio State, or they're
talking about Michigan, or they're talking about Iowa, Wisconsin or
some of these other schools, and then you sort of
scoff at a Rutgers or in Indiana, Illinois. Look, Indiana, Illinois,
that was a fun game last night. That was that
(05:04):
was fun to watch. That went down to the wire
and we got a lot of enjoyment out of it,
so we are happy to have it back. It's gonna
be a fun too, three four months of college football,
and when you hear about what's coming up in the
future for college football, which we are going to get
into later on in this show, it's even more reason
to be excited for it. Jonas knocks here Fox Sports Radio.
Here's the other thing I would just like to point out,
(05:25):
let's not force the issue, all right. As much as
we love college football, as much as we love the hype,
as much as we love everything that the sport presents us,
and the fact that our saturdays are gonna be inundated
with football for the next several months, let's just let's
not force the issue too much. Because I saw a
lot of this last night when Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech.
(05:48):
I saw a lot of this. Oh what a massive upset.
This was a shocker. Can you believe it? Already another
upset in college football. It's Virginia Tech going down to
Old Dominion. Dude, Virginia Tech was like a six point favorite.
Let's not pretend that this is Alabama losing the Utah State.
(06:10):
There's six point favorite, like Virginia Tech trailed at halftime.
They've had one winning season in four years. There's a
reason there's a new head coach there. Like, I get it.
Everybody's fired up about college football. We're all happy it's here.
Can we not try and turn this in to over
(06:31):
dramatization like we do with the n c A tournament
from time to time, where you go, oh, man, look
there was a there were there looked like there was
a buzzer beater in Raleigh, North Carolina, And you come
to find out one team was leading by four and
there was a three at the buzzer. Therefore the game
was at one point. It's like, dude, if you're a
degenerate gambler, I get it, that means a lot to you.
But let's not over hype things. Virginia Tech losing to
(06:55):
Old Dominion not really that big of an upset, alright,
Like if this was when Old Dominion beat Virginia Tech
and the Hokeys or thirteenth in the country, I get it.
But an unranked team with a new head coach on
the road in Week one, that's not really that much
of a surprise. And I got news for you. The
(07:16):
fact that Iowa is struggling Week one against South Dakota State,
or the fact that Purdue gagged away that game against
Penn State. I think you're gonna see a lot of that.
I think if you go on the road to open
up a college football season, you got balls. You got
balls because there is no preseason. You can have your
spring game all you want, and you can give away
(07:38):
five dollar tickets and get seventy to eighty to ninety
thousand people to show up in Columbus for the Ohio
State spring game. You get no preseason, like you can
have as long as training camp as you want. You
can have seven on seven tournaments, you can do whatever
the hell you want. The fact that these guys are
playing right now, I don't believe that anybody is totally
(08:00):
in sync. I think you are going to get a
lot of turnovers. I think you are going to see
a lot of penalties. For Gina Teke at what fifteen
penalties last night, like five turnovers. I think that's a
real conversation to be had, especially week one of the
college football season. So when you see some of these
teams struggle at home against a lower thought of team,
(08:23):
or you see some of these teams potentially get beat
at home because of a of a you know, or
a beat on the road because of against a lower
thought of team in college football. I don't look too
much into it. I don't read too much into it.
To me, this is part of the pitfalls that come
with the early portion of the college football season, and
as we're gonna get into later on in the show,
I think a lot of that stuff is gonna go away,
(08:44):
and I think it's for the betterment of college football
in the years to come. Jonas Knocks here on fs

(10:33):
Fox Sports Radio, you can hang out with us as
always on the i Heart Radio app. Coming up in
we'll call it a little over ten minutes from now.
One of the greats in college football is back. He
is back in a big way, just the way we like,
and we will get into that for you here coming
up a little over ten minutes from now again here
on fs ARE. So this is obviously a busy college
(10:55):
football Saturday, and we are going to keep you covered
on all the updates these scores for those as you
tuning in from the fine state of Iowa. If you're
wondering whether or not the Iowa offense was back this season,
it absolutely is. Speaking of somebody that's back. They've got
three points oh half halfway through the third quarter there,
and the Iowa Hawk Eyes have scored less than either
(11:19):
team in the Field of Dreams game, if I'm not mistaken.
So that's always a fun, fun conversation. So it's uh,
I can't listen, but we're just busted balls Iowa. Sam's
the technical producer here and we're giving you a little
bit of a hard time. Nobody gets sensitive. I'm here
for it. Man. It's too early in the season for
everybody to get sensitive, right listen. I like Hawaii. Do
(11:41):
you see what happened to them last week? They went
up seven nothing. Yeah, they gave up three hundred points
to Vanderbilt. I thought Vanderbilt was going to travel to
Honolulu and get caught up in the sun and you know,
the bikinis and all the other good stuff there. Instead
they just showed up, gave up seven points, and then
served a sixties spot on him. Uh come on, this
(12:04):
was fun. Uh that was fun. This is not fun.
Look at this. I'm seeing all the scenes from early
on college football. We got cramps, we got we got
fans that are too drunk because they don't know how
to pace themselves. Yet, you've got fans in the Midwest
and in the South that are dealing with heat exhaustion
(12:26):
because the humidities out there, and they realized two months
from now it's gonna be like four team below and
they're gonna be freezing their balls off. There's there's a
lot of stuff going on early in the college football season.
So everybody just calmed down it's gonna be fine, but
we will tease along and give you a hard time
throughout the next couple hours here on. FS are all right,
so let's get into this. So Steve Young, obviously Hall
(12:50):
of Famer, but a guy who knows a little thing
or two about quarterback competitions and some quarterback drama. He
was speaking recently with cam Inman of the San Jose
Mercury News, and he talked about the situation in San
Francisco with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, and he called it,
quote Harry stuff like it's gonna it's gonna be really interesting,
(13:12):
and he's not lying. This is going to be fascinating
to see how this plays out in San Francisco because
neither Jimmy Garoppolo or the forty Niners really wanted this.
Now they can tell you all they want to tell
you and say, well, no, we're happy to have Jimmy
back is a backup quarter but of course they are.
(13:35):
Of course they're happy to have Jimmy Garoppolo back now
that they don't have a choice and nobody was going
to trade form, and they're even happier that they don't
have to pay him the million dollars that he was
gonna be owed if they stayed with the same contract.
So it was either get released and then go look
(13:58):
for work elsewhere, or forty Niners can keep him and
make sure a team like Seattle doesn't sign him. And
then they got a deal with the threat that Jimmy
Garoppolo is gonna come back and beat him, and so
on and so forth and all the other stuff that
comes along with that. So yeah, San Francisco now can
say all they want, but let's be realistic here. Jimmy
Garoppolo wanted an opportunity to go play elsewhere. He wanted
(14:21):
an opportunity to go play and start elsewhere, and then
all of a sudden, when the opportunities weren't there, now
he's looking around going, Okay, I guess this makes the
most sense. But if you're the forty Niners and you've
got a young quarterback in Trey Lance, who it's not
like Trey Lance, and we saw a little bit of
him last year, you know, he got he got he
(14:41):
got a cup of coffee last year because Garoppolo got
banged up. But it's not like Trey Lance went out
there and lit it up. It wasn't like Patrick mahomes
is first start when he was named starter and he
went to San Diego, I believe, I think he was
playing the Chargers. They just moved to l A and
he just completely buried him. It was an onslaught. Everyone said,
oh god, him and Andy Reid's offense makes a ton
(15:03):
of sense. That's gonna be a problem for a lot
of people. So Trey Lance has given you like a
little glimpse, but it wasn't much. And before that he
played one game. So we're talking like he's played one
game of college football and one NFL game and like
two years and we're supposed to believe that that he's
(15:24):
going to be the guy. No, but you'd rather have
Trey Lance. No, this is your job. Go play performed,
don't worry about anything else, don't worry about all the drama,
and just go do what you gotta do. Instead, the
guy that he played behind last year is now the
backup quarterback again, and it's a guy that everybody on
(15:44):
that team loves. You Notice how when Jimmy Garoppolo and
Baker Mayfield were going through the same things, right, you know,
it's a couple of things. There were two things that
stood out about the situation all right. Number one, when
Baker Mayfield got word that the brow Ounds were interested
in another quarterback, he got pissed. He got pissed, and
(16:06):
he let it be known, and he took to social
media and said, I think we need to go in
different directions now. And I don't fault him for it.
I get it. That's fine. But that was his approach.
And then when Baker Mayfield and all these reports about
Baker Mayfield started coming out that oh, you know, the
the Browns wanted an adult in the room. Now. They
(16:28):
didn't specify whether or not they wanted an adult in
the room, you know who has a little bit of
an issue with massage therapists and things like that. They
didn't really specify that, but they did say we want
an adult in the room. And all these reports came
out and all this stuff came out. You notice there
weren't a lot of Brown's players who came out and
spoke up for Baker Mayfield. It wasn't like a lot
(16:49):
of his receivers came out and said, no, that's my guy.
I stand with Baker Mayfield. He's my dude. Everything was
kind of quiet, and I'm not saying that's a referendum
on Baker Mayfield as a player or a teammate or
a core back, but it was really quiet. Now you
mirror that to Jimmy garoppolo situation, and it's the complete opposite.
(17:12):
Jimmy Garoppolo has been hearing for years that the forty
Niners wanted to upgrade a quarterback. He's been hereing for years.
Remember a couple of years ago, there was some stuff
out there that that San Francisco was trying to make
a move for Tom Brady. That was one of the
teams that were in play for Tom Brady. And this
(17:35):
is after Garoppolo took them to a Super Bowl. But
Tom Brady came available because he was leaving New England
and all of a sudden, John Lynch admitted as much
and Kyle Shanahan admitted as much that they were kicking
the tires on on Tom Brady and asking around about it.
And then there was the Aaron Rodgers rumor, where, if
(17:56):
you believe enough people, the forty Niners really wanted to
make a move for Aaron Rodgers. They really, they were
definitely interested in making a move for Aaron Rodgers. And
we're trying to facilitate a deal. A lot of people
think that's why they traded up in the draft to
be able to offer up, you know, maybe a better
deal to Green Bay, and there was some speculation about that,
but they really wanted to make a move, and Aaron
(18:19):
Rodgers was another guy. And instead they make the move
and draft Trey Lance with the third overall pick. So
you're looking at this situation and you're seeing Jimmy Garoppolo,
who took this team to a super Bowl. You're seeing
his franchise flirt with another quarterback, then flirt with another quarterback.
(18:44):
They don't deny it, and then draft another quarterback to
replace him. If that were Baker Mayfield, he would have
asked for a trade, he would ask for his release,
he would have taken a social media Jimmy Garoppolo had
never said a word, not a word, you know. The
big difference. The other big difference between the two. When
there was rumblings about the forty Niners moving on from
(19:06):
Garoppolo and it being Trey Lance's team, Garoppolo's teammates always
had his back, always had his back. Christ even Trey
Lance had his back and said he's been great. I've
learned so much from him. I really appreciate everything that
he's done for me. Everybody they like him. This wasn't
the ideal situation, but they like him. And so now
(19:29):
Trey Lance is in this spot to where he's the starter.
It's his team now, but he knows that if he struggles,
You've got a bunch of other guys around him who
not only think and know that the quarterback that's backing
him up can get the job done because he has.
But they all like the guy. This is not an
ideal situation for the forty Niners at all in any way,
(19:51):
shape or form. But my favorite part is how John
Lynch and the forty Niners can't get over the fact
that Jimmy Garoppolo made a business, to say for himself,
decided to have an off season surgery. Take a listen
to this. This is at least the third time this
offseason John Lynch has brought up that statistic and brought
up that fact about their negotiations. Here was the forty
(20:14):
nine GM a couple of days ago. What I can
tell you is, you know, with great confidence is like
combine time. You know, there were really serious talks with
I say serious, probably two three teams that that I
felt like, you know, you'd have to ask them like
this was going to happen. And then that's when that's
news broke, you know. So then things went where they went,
(20:36):
and and you know, we talked a lot about the
other day as to why we arrived at where we're at.
But I'm glad that we've arrived where we're at. But
after he got healthy, there those conversations never got back
to that point where you were in February, and that's
why we were a little at a loss, you know,
because you know, you can you can talk to his doctor,
you can talk to our doctor, you can talk to
(20:57):
a lot of people, and he was doing well. But
we're happy that they didn't. You know, we're happy that
he's here. It's so great. It reminds me of Steve Spurrier.
Steve Spurrier used to do this thing back in the
day when I was doing local radio in South Carolina.
We used to call it the wait for a game
because Spurrier would give a compliment, but you knew eventually
the truth was going to come at some point later
(21:18):
in the conversation and probably in the same comment, and
so Spurrier, I remember he was talking about this offensive
line coach. So he had an offensive line coach that
was there one year, he promoted and gave him the
offensive line job. And then after that season, and this
actually took place late in the season, he took another
job to go to Youngstown State. And so I remember
(21:39):
Steve Spurrier in the press conference when he was asked
about the position, was like, well, you know, uh, you know,
always happy for my assistance where they get an opportunity,
and you know, always I'm thrilled for him and his
family that that he got an opportunity, that he's that
he's put in his time and he's he's But sure
did think he was gonna be here more than one year.
I gotta gotta tell you, sure did. They on Lynch
(22:00):
strikes me as the guy who says, man really happy
to have Jimmy Garoppolo. I really thought we had a
trade lined up though, and then he decided to have
a surgery, you know, kind of ruined everything, kind of
kind of cost us a lot there. They're not thrilled
with this. They can say what they want and they
can make the best of it and they can make
the most of it. Now, they're not thrilled with this.
(22:20):
This is not ideal. And keep in mind, not only
is this an organization that is either flirted with a
quarterback and then drafted a quarterback while Jimmy Garoppolo has
been on the roster. You remember that story that came
out last year where John Lynch had to come out
and and sort of apologize and try and explain himself
because there was a tweet that was sent about Jimmy
(22:42):
Garoppolo's struggles. It was really a negative tweet about Jimmy Garoppolo,
and John Lynch liked the tweet and then afterwards had
to address it and said, oh, yeah, that was by accident.
I was in church and it must have accidentally hit
it in my pocket. Yeah. I hate when that happens.
When I'm with my wife and we go up, we
(23:04):
go up to get communion and I accidentally like a
tweet that was negative about one of my co workers. Man,
hate when that happens. You gotta be kidding me, Uh,
this whole thing, it's fascinating, And the best part is
we get to see a play out. And if you
ask me right now, if I were to go to
(23:24):
our friends at Draft Kings. And if if I were
to go knock on the door to DraftKings and say, hey,
can I get some money on whether or not Jimmy
Garoppolo starts a game this year for the forty Niners.
I'm telling you right now, I got a feeling Garoppolo
starting a game. He's going to start a game for
the Niners. And if he plays well and he's healthier
than he was last year, all of a sudden, the
(23:46):
Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance, Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, forty Niner
drama goes to another level, and I'm here for all
of it. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio, Get me on
Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks on
Twitter and you can hang out with us. Is always
on the I Heart Radio Applright's coming up coming up next,
we are going to hear from somebody one of the
all time greats is back just the way we like,
(24:09):
and we'll get into that for you here on fs
are but for all the latest in around the world
of sports, ladies and gentlemen. Bryant Finley, Jonas, We've got
a slab knocker happening at Iowa City where it's five
to three. Yeah, that is the score right now, third
quarter Iowa. Yes, yes, yes, safety. It really is the
(24:31):
field of dreams game. It really is the field of
dreams game right now. It's five three, oh, no question
about it. And one of the things Jonas, that I
wanted to bring up here is the funniest well in
South Dakotas. No, it's bad offense. If they were going
(24:54):
to hand a game ball Jonas to somebody in this
game five three Iowa over South Dakota State, it might
be the punter for Iowa in Tory Taylor because he
just got it within you know, the two yard line
leading that safety. Now South Dakota State, they they've worked
their putter to the dirt in the ground, nine punts
for him, including a seventeen yard or that went off
(25:15):
the side of his foot almost at the back of
his teammate running back on punt return. But from there,
we do have some lightning in the area at Kyle
Field where number six Texas and m is enjoying a
seventeen to nothing lead against South or Sam Houston State.
So that ballgame is in a holding pattern for now
Number eight in Michigan is sand blasting Colorado State thirty
(25:37):
seven and nothing. Late third quarter. The Wolverines that brought
in their backup quarterback J. J. McCarthy. He ran in
the score. So Kade McNamara's day is done with one
touchdown and one hundred thirty six yards through the air
and just nine completions. Number thirteen NC State is polverizing
East Carolina twenty one to seven. Halfway through the third quarter.
(25:58):
There a punt return will a punt was blocked by
State and they ran it back for a score. So
special teams playing big in that one. Also something to
mention here. North Carolina twenty eight unanswered points as they
are now make it twenty thirty one unanswered points with
an added field goal thirty eight to twenty one. The
Heels are taking it to app State thirty eight to
(26:21):
twenty one late stages of the third quarter. In my
final game, here to mention Jonas before I get it
back to you, what a ballgame this is? Navy is
losing to the Delaware Blue Hens. Yes, late third quarter,
fourteen to seven in Navy has lost three fumbles. So
what what another great game that is? You know? Jonas.
(26:41):
College football doesn't have a preseason, but the way some
of these games are starting, it makes me wonder maybe
a preseason game wouldn't be so bad for some of
these teams. I'm Tony Finley like, if you want to
know how it's early in the season in college football,
you've got a team at home struggling, you've got turnovers,
you've got cramping, and you've got weather delays. That's usually
(27:04):
the telltale sign that you because so I promise you
somewhere this weekend. I think there might have been one
last night. There will be a lightning delay in a
college football game somewhere this weekend, definitely within the next
couple of weeks. It happens every single year. It's like clockwork. Yeah,
right now, Texas, A and M is dealing with that,
and all the folks in the media center or hauled
it up inside, and yeah, there's that thirty minute window
(27:27):
where if it's within eight to ten miles or something,
they gotta wait at least thirty minutes. And then if
it happens again, they gotta wait again. So who knows
when they'll get back to playing. But A and M
is just stomping on their opponent right now, Sam Houston state,
no surprise, they're just as Jonas Knox is stomping on
his opposition and taking it. In the radio sphere, there
is Bryan Family. Come on, man, hanging out in the
(27:49):
finny fun house here on a Saturday. So I'm talking
about Brian Jonas. I gave you the other day when
I was talking about the whole Remember that Baltimore Ravens
mascot and I assume tours a c L got That's
what I heard, And so I brought you up because
you know, obviously, Jonas, you working in Chuck E Cheese
and being the right Not a lot of people at
Fox Sports Radio knows what it's like to wear those
(28:11):
full costumes. It worked, but I know you do. It's tough, man.
I mean I I I nearly twisted an ankle multiple
times in those big red shoes. But but again, but
you know a little some of us are a little
bit more um, you know, more aware of our surroundings.
So you know, I never had any issues there. So
thoughts and prayers to the Baltimore Ravens mascot what's his name,
like Poe like the named after the least Yeah, Poe. Well, listen,
(28:38):
there are other options out there, but we'll leave that alone.
All right, It is Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. We
are gonna have another edition of Do You Care coming
up in about twelve minutes from now. And and if
you ever wanted proof that we are all nosy, that
we are nosy sports fans, I've got the proof for
you here coming up twelve minutes from now, and fs
are all right. Nick Saban's back. He is back. Now
(28:59):
you're probably thinking to yourself, well, of course he's back.
It's college football season. No, no, no, no, no. You
celebrate Nick Saban because Nick Saban his won what like
twenty five national titles and he's the greatest college football
coach of all time. And never mind the fact that
Nick Saban finds himself in a year in which they
lost to Georgia, they lost a national title game, and
(29:20):
whatever Nick Saban is looking for a bounce back year,
he usually gets it. It's a revenge tour, not only
for Alabama but for Ohio State, which is why those
are the odds on favor to meet in the College
Football National Championship Game. But the Nick Saban I like
is the red ass the Nick Saban, I like, is
the guy who likes to get angry and pissy with
(29:40):
the media, even if it's not really that big of
a deal, just because I think it wakes him up
and gets him prepared for the year. Take a listen
to Nick Saban. This was from Friday. What I read?
These guys right all the time? All right about? All right?
Who can how how can Alabama run the table? I mean,
can't you figure out something better to other than that?
(30:00):
I mean, come on, we we we gotta play one
game at a time, all right, So how can Alabama
lose to this team? How can this team beat Alabama
three months from now? Who gives it? I mean, how
about this game? How about the church of what's happening now?
(30:20):
I like, now, can we focus on what's happening now?
How come no one's interested in that? Why? Why do
we have to go all the way anyway? I love it.
I love the fake misery misery like he's just a
miserable guy. He's a curmudgeon and Nick Saban's dude. First
of all, that was via Obama Insider dot com. Want
to give proper credit here. Here's the thing with Saban.
(30:43):
He's got everybody fooled. He's got everybody fooled. He's and
and there's a reason him in Belichick are as tight
and as closer friends as they are, because I think
they're both playing the same game. I've talked to people
who have played for Belichick. They'll tell you he kind
of he bus balls a little bit. It's not like
he's this guy who and what he showcases to the media,
(31:05):
that's who you get when he's in the locker room.
He kind of bus balls a little bit. He'll make
jokes so make you know, maybe some inappropriate comments or two.
I've heard some things that he said, but it's kind
of funny. Now. He's cut throat when it comes to
his roster and decisions he has to make, but he's
not this cremudgeon, unapproachable guy that a lot of people
make him out to be. Nick Saban is the same way.
(31:26):
When Nick Saban has these outbursts with the media, I
honestly think he does it because it's fun. Like, you
know what, I'm tired of given the same canned answers,
Why don't I cut a wrestling promo here in front
of you guys? Why not? Yeah, I could play it safe.
But why not? Why not I cut up wrestling promo
and see if I can sort of make a few
people laugh and and have a good time. It's why
(31:48):
when Saban you always hear him slamming the podium. I
think in his head, he's probably thinking to himself, how
many times can I slam the podium? I think I'm
gonna go for fourteen. I'm gonna go for fourteen in
the next cut, and then you just hear him lambing
the side of the podium. Listen to any sound bite
and you'll notice a couple of things with Nick Saban
if you watch it or listen to it if you're
watching it, you'll notice he usually has like a little
(32:09):
bottle of Coca Cola in front of him, perfect product placement.
And then he's always slamming the side of the podium. Dude,
It's part of the act. It's part of the routine.
There's no way if that guy's personality was as awful
as everybody makes it out to be, that he would
land as mini recruits as he does. There's no way. Well,
(32:31):
he probably pays for him, or he probably buys those recruits.
We're talking Alabama, not Texas A and M get it right,
different sec school. But never never mind all that. Saban
has got everybody fooled, and he knows his team is good,
and he knows they're piste off and he knows they're
fired up. So when he comes out and he starts
(32:52):
dropping stuff like that early in the season, it's because
he knows he's pretty confident his guys are ready to go,
but he wants to have a little bit of fun
with the media. And that's the save. And I like
Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio. Get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Kocks on Twitter, and
you can hang out with us as always on the
I Heart Radio app. All right, it's coming up next.
We've got proof that you are a nosy sports fan.
(33:17):
We'll tell you how right here on fs are shame on,
shame on you foom we can't get fooled again, Jonas
Knocks Fox Sports Radio. You can hang out with us
as always on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up
top of next hour. A little over ten minutes from now,
(33:37):
we are going to get into a major storyline that
could change the future in the world of football. So
we'll have that for you. Here again, uh the top
of next hour, a little over ten minutes from now. Uh,
it is a shootout in Iowa City, five three Hawkeyes
over South Dakota State. Now, not five turnovers to three turnovers,
(34:01):
just total points five three. But if I'm not mistaken,
I believe they've already hit the over in this game.
So congratulations to you Bettors who had the over in
Iowa and South Dakota State. Just a performance of a
lifetime from both offenses thus far. All right, So, without
further ado, it is time we have a little bit
of fun, and why not let's get a little bit
(34:21):
negative here on a Saturday afternoon. It's right now, it's
time for this. There's so many stories in the world
of sports, and most of them are a complete waste
of time. Let's get kinky. Here's some of the big
stories from the last week. But Jonas, the real question
is do you care? Alright? Ed For that, we turn
(34:42):
it over to the great Danny g who is the
executive producer of this program. And Danny, I wanted to
tell you this on the air, so because you have
the best voice and radio I was thinking about a
good nickname for you. But The problem is the name
has already stolen by an adult film star. All right,
because you have the great Pipes. I was gonna call
you Wesley Pipes, but that name is already stolen by
(35:06):
by a porn star, so I can't use that name.
But I wanted to let you know I was thinking
about you. You know, legally, I might have a right
to the name that is. Actually Wesley is my middle name?
Is it really? It really is? Yeah, maybe we'll spell
it differently. We'll put like p W E S T
l e Y. My mom was like, you could have
went by West West, you know, Wesley whatever you like.
(35:28):
You have three options there that'd be fantastic, and go
with any of them. Thank you, Kanye West. Yeah, who
needs Wesley Snipes And you've got Wesley Pipes, you know
what I mean? The microphone throttler? All right? What do
we got? All right? Donovan Mitchell was traded to the Cavaliers.
Do you care? No, I don't listen. It's football season.
(35:49):
It's really nice of of the NBA to complete a
quote unquote blockbuster trade. And for the Utah Jazz, did
you just sell off pieces so they can turn into
what Danny Ainge was doing in Boston and acquire a
bunch of draft picks. It's a cute story and all,
but it's football season and you're about two months too
late for anybody to give a rib next Tom Brady,
his decision to unretire reportedly sparked a big issue between
(36:12):
him and his wife, Giselle. Do you give a rat's ass? Yeah?
I I do. Here's this. This just showcases how nosy
we are as sports fans. You know, how many guys
in the NFL probably are having issues in their relationship,
Like like, how many guys in the NFL are probably
having problems or how many people listening right now at
(36:32):
this very moment probably had a fight or some sort
of a disagreement with their better half last night, which
is why they're listening to this right now, because they
probably got kicked out there on the I Heart radio app.
And nobody's nobody's you know, running with a page six report,
nobody's going to the New York Post, nobody's getting details
on this. When when kids are involved, but when it's
Tom Brady, we're all involved in it. And I've said
(36:54):
this before. The issue with the Bucks this year is
not gonna be Tom Brady. It's the health of the
offensive line that to me would be the problem. Next, alright,
I once sat in uh one of those nice boxes
at what used to be Staples Center with her. Yes,
she ignored me the whole time. Genie Buss, she called
Russell Westbrook the most consistent player on the Lakers last season.
(37:16):
Do you care? Not? Really? This whole look the Russell
Westbrook Lebron Lakers. It's just like, I mean, come on,
you guys couldn't sit next to each other at the
Summer League game, and then you know you had some
conference call with Anthony Davis and you had like, let's
(37:36):
just say what it is. The Lakers are going to
go to continue to be a disappointing team if Anthony
Davis can't stay healthy and Lebron James can't stay healthy.
If that's the case, it doesn't matter how consistent Russell
Westbrook is. If Anthony Davis can't figure out to play
how to play games and not get injured, they're going
to continue to have problems. Next, alright, Cameron Smith became
(37:56):
the latest star to leave the PGA Tour and he's
now Joe and in the live tour. Of course, do
you give the rats? You know what? Yeah? I do,
because I think it's hilarious how many p G A
Tour players are upset about this, like how many of
them continue to be critical of these guys making this decision. Look,
I get it. You want to talk about where the
(38:17):
money comes from and how it traces back to I've
said this from the start. If you really want to
go deep enough and you want to trace back to
dirty money and where money comes from, there's probably a
lot of sponsors upon the p G A Tour and
a lot of places and doors you can knock on
and find some things you're not gonna like. These guys
are making a decision for themselves. Doesn't affect me one
(38:38):
way or the other. Go do what you gotta do next,
Skinny Babe, Ruth show. Hey Otani became the first player
to reach at least thirty home runs and ten wins
in a season. Do you care? I actually do. I
think he's fast, I think, and I'm just wondering. Look,
the Angels have nothing. They really have nothing. I mean
(38:58):
they're trying to sell the team now. You know they
can't get people to go to games. They've they've got
Mike trotton show Aotani. Alright, great players, Hall of Fame players,
two of the best players in baseball, and they've got
nothing to show for it, literally nothing to show for it.
And Danny, you know what's gonna happen. Either one or
both of those guys is gonna end up with the
Dodgers and then they're gonna have really nothing to show
(39:21):
for it. Like that, That's the way this whole thing
is gonna go, because the Dodgers continue to run rough
shot over Southern California baseball. Next, alright, Lord of the
Rings The Rings of Power has debut on Prime video.
Do you care? No? Come on, man, how many I agree? Coach?
How many different Lord of the Rings Space Wars Star track? Like?
(39:47):
How many different? Like Redus of Like what's next? Magic
the Gathering? The movie are we gonna bring? That is
our garbage pale kids coming out with a new movie
or their n f T garbage pale kids. I can like, well,
what is what is Bart bart doing on an n
f T. Now, this whole thing, it's football season, watch
some sports. It's not only a good thing, it's a
(40:10):
great thing, and it's going to change football. We will
get into that for you coming up here in just
a couple of moments. From now, Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio.
You can hang out with us as always on the
i Heart Radio app. You can find us on hundreds
of affiliates all across the country and wherever the hell
you are making us a part of your Saturday afternoon.
We appreciate you doing so. We're gonna take you all
(40:31):
the way up until four pm Eastern time, one o'clock
Pacific right here through the rest of the hour on
fs ARE. It is obviously college football wall to wall
coverage here on Fox Sports Radio. We obviously had some
games last week. We had a few games, they sprinkled
them in, and then we've got the full slate of
games right now. Most notably that we are paying close
(40:54):
enough attention to here is what is happening in Iowa
with Iowa and South Dakota State where right now, for
some reason, it's only five three Iowa with eleven minutes
to go in the game. Sorry, at five to three
is a baseball score, right Iowa baseball playing it is
five Field of Dreams game at Iowa City. So so
(41:21):
next up, Kevin Costner is going to come out and
make an appearance, and uh, a bunch of people walk
through corn and this is how this whole thing is
going to play out. Look, man, it's easy to poke
fun at Iowa struggling with South Dakota State. It's easy
to poke fun. Now, they probably should have more than
(41:41):
five points. I would say that that that that probably
should be almost I would want to consider. Yeah, listen,
and I was almost a woman, but you know, God
stepped in and said, now we're gonna go in a
different direction. Here. Things happen, you know, almost happen in life,
and uh, and here we are. I was got a
I was got a five. Three will lead. We will
keep you up to speed on that as we take
(42:03):
you through the end of the show here, because I'm
assuming that game is going to end here at some
point during the show, unless who knows, South South Dakota
State could get a safety tie it at five and
then we go into extra innings. There is that possibility
as well too, So we will keep you up to
speed on all that stuff here on fs are now,
m here's the one thing that I would like to say.
(42:26):
I've seen some people be a little bit critical and
a little bit, uh for for a couple of things.
Critical Number one, for some of these opponents that schools
in college football schedule early on in the year. I
have said this for a long time now. If I
were a coach or a program, I would schedule as
(42:49):
week of an opponent early on in the season as possible.
You can call me soft, you can call me scared,
you can say whatever you want about me. I'm not
running a bunch of eighteen to one year old kids
out there. And I say kids, obviously, you know we understand.
I'm not running a bunch of eighteen to twenty one
(43:11):
year olds out there with no preseason and no real
reps against another opponent for almost a year and expect
them that they're going to deliver a high quality of
football this early in the season. Not happening. I will
absolutely schedule a directional school. I would absolutely schedule and
(43:33):
unranked school, and I would hopefully schedule them at home,
and if I did have to go on the road,
I'd make sure they were even a worse opponent. Because
the idea that we expect these schools and these teams
to come out with no preseason game, and there's a
lot of people that don't like preseason football. I've always
been a fan of it because I like the fact
(43:55):
that these guys are getting an opportunity to play in
the NFL, most of all because it's the NFL, because
it's football, and also because this really does, I think,
have a value to getting people ready. There's joint practices,
that's cool. You know, it's fun to watch Aaron Donald,
you know, swing a helmet around like it's Game of
Thrones and assault somebody. That's fun. Who doesn't want to
(44:17):
watch that? It's fun for everybody, But you at least
get an opportunity to get real reps in a game
atmosphere against another team. In college football, you don't get that.
The season starts and that's it. So if I was
one of these schools, I would absolutely schedule a nobody
(44:38):
Week one. I don't have a problem with Alabama playing
Utah State. I don't know. I have no issue whatsoever.
If you're Alabama and you're Nick Saban, Look, we're trying
to win a national title. I want to make sure
I know my guys are good. But I'm not gonna
sit here and just go schedule a powerhouse on the
road just to try and you know, make people happy
(45:00):
and please people who want to see us play better
opponents early in the season. I have no issue whatsoever
with Alabama taking that approach. Oh, we're forty two, forty three,
forty four point favorites. Okay, tough balls. My program. I'm
gonna run how I want to run it, and it's
been successful. But when you see teams that do go
out and schedule these top twenty five tough matchups early on,
(45:25):
Oregon number eleven at number three, Georgia Notre Dame, number five,
going to number two Ohio State, even Cincinnati at Arkansas,
who's an set SEC team. Cincinnati was in the College
Football Playoff last year and they're going on the road
at an SEC school to open up the season. More
credit to him, More credit to him. I just wouldn't
(45:46):
do it, but I think it's gonna be happening a
lot more. And here's why college football playoff expansion. Because
now that you've got the expansion that has taken place
where you've got a twelve team playoff and it's tenadvely
scheduled for two thousand, twenty six, but they're trying to
fast track it to get it done in. Now that
(46:07):
you've got a twelve team college football playoff, and you're
gonna have the six conference championship. Conference championship that are
gonna get the first six seeds, and then you're gonna
have the highest rated seeds. Are gonna be seven through twelve.
We're gonna be the highest ranked teams. You give teams
the ability to suffer an early season loss and all
of a sudden they're not out of the mix, go
(46:30):
on a run, because if you're Notre Dame or your Oregon,
all of a sudden, if you go into Athens and
you beat Georgia, or if you're Notre Dame, you go
into Columbus and you beat Ohio States, and and it's
next year or two thousand twenty six. Now you've set
yourself up for the entire season. Because if you were
(46:53):
to lose later in the year, are you really gonna
fall all the way back to thirteen? Probably not. If
you lost in like week nine, are you really gonna
be bumped outside of the top twelve or thirteen when
you have a quality win like that, probably not. So
the fact that you were giving these teams a little
(47:14):
bit more leeway to lose a tough game early on,
and no spots aren't at a premium. It's not just
the four teams that are competing for a national title.
I think you're gonna see more teams scheduled tougher opponents.
I think we're gonna see better matchups. You might see
Alabama look and go, hey, maybe we don't want to
play Utah State at home, oh to open up the season.
(47:37):
Maybe we'll go play a Utah on the road, or
whatever nonconference game they want to schedule, or a conference game,
whatever you want to do. But I like this. I
like the approach that these teams are taking. If that's
the case, if college football and the playoff expands, I
I'm okay with the fact that Alabama then wants to
decide they want to go schedule a tough opponent early
(47:58):
on because it gives you more wiggle room. These are
eight Some of these kids are eighteen years old. Eighteen
years old, they were hanging out on a quad throwing
paper airplanes around or kicking a Hackey sack seven months ago.
But you expect him to go on the road in
(48:20):
a hostile environment in front of like ninety one hundred
thousand drunk kids and and and fans, and go play
at a high level with no mistakes and no turnovers. Nothing.
Come on man Virginia Tech at fifteen penalties last night
at Old Dominion, Like I wass got five points against
South Dakota. Stay right now, it's early in the season.
(48:43):
I need a ramp up period. So I don't have
a problem with these schools taking this approach. But I
think if you do have an issue with it, that's
why you should like the college football Playoff. That's another
aspect of this. I think you're going to get teams.
They're gonna play tougher opponents early in the season because
as they realize, oh, our entire season isn't gonna be
(49:04):
doomed if we lose a game. That's why I've seen
some people. Here's the other thing I don't get and
and I I've said this and this going a couple
of years ago. I was one of those don't expand
the college football Playoff. We got four teams, we don't
need anybody else. I was one of those people who
was on that. I was dying on that hill. I said,
(49:26):
don't expand it. And then I started thinking about it
more and more, and I realized it's a waste of
time because it was always going to get here anyways.
There's too much money, there's too much money on the
table that's been left out of college football for them
not to expand it to this point. So if you're
arguing against it, your argument was a waste of time.
(49:48):
For years, it was always going to get to this point.
They were always going to expand it, just like the
NFL season at one point was twelve games, and then
it was like fourteen or sixteen, and now it's seventeen
games aimes. It was always going to get to this point.
So if you've been arguing against it, you've been wasting
your time. I went away from that because I realized
(50:10):
it's gonna happen. It's going to happen. This is the
way this is going to go. And I also was
one of those people who said, well, this is gonna
like hurt the regular season because now it's gonna make
rivalries meanless. And now it's gonna No, it's not you
think Ohio State Michigan is going to mean any less
(50:30):
to either to anybody rooting for either team. If one
of these teams finds themselves outside the college football playoff,
like you like you think that's gonna happen. You know
what about conference championships? Now, conference championships aren't as important,
Yes they are. In fact, I would argue they're more
important because the highest seeded conference champions are gonna get
(50:55):
first round buys. That's even more of a reason to
win your conference champ beionship. None of these rivalries are
going anywhere. I went to a South Carolina Clemson game
years ago. Neither team was anywhere close to the top.
They weren't good. You could not have told anybody there
Williams Bryce who was ready to watch that game that
(51:18):
was a rivalry game. Iowa and Iowa State could have
two wins apiece and say they're playing later in the season,
and I think now they're playing early in the season.
They could be bad football teams. Iowa could lose this
game to South Dakota State. I got news for you.
There's gonna be somebody who shows up to that game
dressed up as a six foot stock of corn, and
(51:39):
another guy dressed as a silo, and one other guy
dresses a tornado. Nobody's gonna care. We're all hammered. All
of them. Nobody's gonna care rivalries a rivalry for a
reason because they mean more probably to those people than
they do you or I. But those are the people
that make up those rivalries. So it doesn't matter. It
(52:01):
doesn't matter that college football has expanded their playoffs, None
of that has any impact on this stuff. Civil war
between Oregon Oregon State, that's gonna be there. Now you've
got Mike Gundy who's talking about well, you know, maybe
you know Oklahoma Oklahoma State. It's not gonna happen anymore.
And we'll get to more of that later on. But
(52:22):
I look at the college football playoffs and I said,
and I think to myself, I'm having a hard time
finding anything wrong with it. I really am. Well, it's
too many teams. There's not enough good teams in college football.
It's the same three or four teams every year. Why
do we want to expand it? That's why. That's exactly why.
(52:42):
Because if you want to get new blood into it,
you've got to give him an opportunity. And the best
opportunity they're gonna have is to play in a one
game playoff against these top teams. Because all of a sudden,
if you're Georgia and you're a college football playoff team
and you find yourself competing in the opening round of
(53:04):
your playoff against the Penn State or somebody like that,
or in Oregon in a playoff situation, and you lose
that game. All of a sudden, what was never a
possibility before became a possibility then turned into a reality
because you expanded the playoffs. There was too much money involved,
and the opportunities for the teams are there, and the
(53:25):
rivalries are not going to be affected. I can't find
a lot of things wrong with this college football playoff expansion,
if any, I just hope it gets here sooner rather
than later. Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio. By the way,

one o'clock Pacific here on fs ARE. Coming up next though, Uh,
(54:09):
we have got somebody in the world of football who's
trying really hard to convince you that they're not leaving.
They're trying really really hard to convince you. I'm not
buying it for a second. We'll get into that for
you here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio.
(54:30):
Coming up in a little over teb Bunus from now
here on fs ARE and on the I Heart Radio app,
we are going to hear exactly why when a coach
made a comment a couple of months ago, I laughed
at it because all he's doing is hurting his team
and his fan base, uh, and the entire sports We
(54:51):
will get to that here coming up on fs ARE.
By the way, update from Iowa City, where the Hawkeyes
have extended their lead. It is now seven to three.
The Iowa Hawk guys have more safeties than field goals now.
In their game against South Dakota State, he scored a touchdown.
(55:12):
Jonas's seventh is seven points. That's a touchdown right a
field goal in two safeties right by the way. This
is my one of my favorite exercises. This is how
you know when somebody's talking about a game. A little
little pro tip for people listening. If you want to
know whether or not the sports talk radio host you're
listening to was actually watching a game or just looking
(55:35):
at the box score, all you need to do is
hear them break down this game, because there's gonna be
somebody given a hot take without any research that goes,
oh my god. Iowa was only able to mount one
touchdown against South Dakota State. Hey, numb nuts. It was
a field goal and two safeties. That's how they got
to seven. Yeah, there haven't There haven't been any touchdowns
(55:55):
scored in this game. Good god. Man. Look when you
grew on NFC Central Football back in the day. All right,
this is the type of football you got. All right,
this is the type of football you got. There was
one year where the Chicago Bears had more rushing yards
as a team than passing yards. And I'm not making
that up. That is that is a true statement. I'm
not making that up. You can look it up. There
(56:17):
was one year the Bears had more rushing yards than
passing yards as a team. That's the football I grew
up with. So I'm all four it man, all right
there there they are ripping away in Iowa City with
a seven three lead. Those defense, guy, Yeah, but the
offense is really bad. What do you get? You get
a seven three game? Yeah, well, let's you get Iowa
football is what you get. But it's all right, listen,
(56:40):
everything's gonna be okay. Again. It's it's week one of
the college football season for a lot of these teams,
for most of these teams, So you gotta go through
some of these, uh, these early struggles here. Uh, and
we will have you covered again on on this game
and what happens as this game finishes up over the
next several minutes here on Fox Sports Radio. Alright, so
coming up again, uh in about minutes from now, we
(57:00):
are going to hear from a coach and the comment
that he made that it is looking more and more
silly based on something we saw recently. I do think
this is pretty entertaining though. Um Jim Harbaugh. And by
the way, for those of you that don't know, he's
still the coach of Michigan now, he wanted to be
the coach of the Minnesota Vikings. That's why he left
there to take a visit, and then all of a
sudden he got there and the GM was like, you know,
(57:23):
we don't really have a job for you. You You know,
we don't really Uh, I don't know. Did you think
you're getting hired just like that sight unseen? Just walk
in here and we'll just stand over the keys and say,
you know, the the organization is yours. Jim Harbaugh was
is now back at Michigan, and uh, he was talking
with ESPN dot com and he was talking with ESPN
and they they had this earlier and Harbor was saying
(57:46):
that he doesn't apologize for taking a look at the
Minnesota Vikings, and the one that doesn't get printed is
I don't apologize for wanting to be at Michigan. Uh,
he said. People seem to cut off that last point.
I'm here, and I'm as happy as I can be.
He sort of pointed out that the reason for his
flirtation with the NFL and wanting to go back to
the NFL was the fact that the forty Niners were
(58:08):
so close to winning a Super Bowl when he was
there as head coach in San Francisco, and that's still
kind of naws in him a little bit. But the
goal is to win a national championship. But if he
gets a national championship, he'll be happy with that. So
that's Jim Harbaugh trying to sell you on the fact
that he's happy at Michigan. All Right, I don't deny
that Jim Harbaugh is happy at Michigan. But Jim Harbor
(58:28):
knew exactly what the situation was. He could not leave
Michigan until he at least beat Ohio State. Now, for
those of you that think, well, you know, but if
you want to win a national title, he could have left. Yeah,
but he would have been looked at a lot different.
He would have been looked at a lot different. There's
a reason why John Cooper's looked at a lot differently
(58:51):
than he is amongst Ohio State fans because he always
struggled against Michigan. There's a reason Jim Trestles held to
a higher regard at Ohio State because he seemingly always
beat Michigan. Same with Urban Meyer, Like you gotta beat
your rivals in college football. And if Jim Harbaugh had
won a national title but they hadn't beat Ohio State,
that still would have been part of the discussion if
(59:12):
you would have left. There's no coincidence that the reason
he sniffed around as much as he did and made
a trip and a visit to an NFL team to
try and get the head coaching job is because he
beat Ohio State. So here's what's happened. Because he didn't
take the job, he's now pushed back his eventual return
(59:34):
to the NFL at least another year, right, And I
would actually argue another two years. And here's why an
NFL team looking to high make a higher and a
head coaching higher. I don't think it's going to feel
as strongly about Jim Harbaugh with the way things turned
out in the coaching search last year, and also the
(59:58):
fact that Michigan's probably going to get annihilated by Ohio
State when they play again this year. That's probably gonna happen. Now.
I'm not trying to piss off Michigan fans. I'm not
trying to to call my shot this far in advance.
But let's be realistic about the whole thing. Iowa States pissed,
or excuse me, Ohio State is pissed. They're looking for
(01:00:21):
some revenge they've been hearing it from Michigan fans, that
fan base, and the media and some people who cover
the sport who who root for Michigan. They've been hearing
from them for months now. You don't think Ryan Day
is gonna have Ohio State ready to go at the
Horseshoe later on this season. There's a reason that that
(01:00:43):
point spread in that game. Is it like fourteen or
fifteen points? And it would not surprise me if it
was even higher when we got to kick off. That's
a rivalry game with two quality teams, one of which
who was in the College Football Playoff last year, and
there double dig it underdogs on the road in a
game that's months away. Why is that? Because everybody knows
(01:01:06):
there's an ass we been waiting for Michigan when they
go to Columbus. And if it gets as bad as
a lot of people think it's going to get where
Ryan Dame Baby runs up the score, that's gonna kind
of diminish the wanting of Jim har about the next level.
So he's gonna have to wait. It probably pushes his
arrival back to the NFL for a couple of years.
But I think all Jim Harbaugh did there as much
(01:01:27):
as he's trying to convince everybody that he's happy at Michigan.
Was focused on the point and the fact that he's
going back to the NFL that if a team comes
knocking two years from now and there's an opportunity for
Harbou to go back, and he realizes, I've done as
much as I possibly could at Michigan, and no doubt
about it, it's been a success. There's a lot of
(01:01:48):
people who want to knock it and say it wasn't
a success. It absolutely has been a success. A lot
of people forget how bad Michigan was before he got there.
But all this does is confirmed to me that Harbor
is going back. He's not there at Michigan for the
long haul. Had Minnesota offered him the job at the
Vikings and quote Fia Dolpha Menza offered him the job
(01:02:12):
and said, hey, you're our guy. You're gonna be the
We absolutely want to hire you. You're our guy. You
think he's going back like you think you think he
goes back to ann Arbor and Arbor if he's got
an opportunity to coach the Vikings, it's not happening. That's
why he took the visit and people said, well, I
know they were trying to They were they were trying
(01:02:33):
to get a you know, some sort of a deal done.
He has a relationship. He knows a Dolpha Mensa. He
knows him. They have a relationship. So he walks up
to Minnesota. He knocks on on Quest's door and he says, yeah, man,
happy to see you, but this job isn't yours. I know,
I know you're I know you thought maybe you're gonna
(01:02:55):
get the job. They in fact, the reports are the
Quest the a dope. Amenza didn't even offer him the job. Think.
There was no contract, there was no anything. They just
had a conversation and once Harbaugh realized, oh, it's not mine,
then he went back to Michigan and from people I
talked to, took the deal that had been sitting there
(01:03:15):
for a while. If he wanted to be at Michigan
so bad, why didn't he just sign the contract that
had been sitting there for a couple of months. Hey,
this is what we have for you. We'd like to
have you back. This is what we got. We'd like
to have you back. It's not like Michigan up the offer.
Once he went on the trip and the Viking said no,
(01:03:36):
he went back to the same deal. So Jim Harbaugh
was going back to the NFL. It won't be after
this year because they're gonna get buried by Ohio State
and I think it's gonna take a little bit of
the bloom off it. And plus you want to let
the smoke of Jim Harbaugh flirting with an NFL team
kind of die down a little bit. But absolutely he's
going back to the NFL within two years. My prediction
(01:03:57):
is Jim Harbaugh was back in the NFL, and if not,
not that long afterwards. And all these comments that he
made the ESPN earlier today, I think that's just an
indicator that Harbia's plans to go back to the league.
Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio, get me on Twitter at
the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter, and
he can hang out with us as always on the
I Heart Radio app. All right, So coming up next,
we are going to hear about a comment that a
(01:04:19):
coach made not long ago that the more you look
at it, the more laughable it is, and it was
confirmed over the past couple of days. We'll get into
that for you, but for all the latest from around
the world of sports, ladies and gentlemen. It's Priyan Fenley. Oh, Jonas,
I don't think that you can say that it's steven
more laughable. It could be in that thank you so much,
Iowa saying that as we take a look at college football,
(01:04:41):
Iowa has more points scored on defense than offense. Four
points on defense if you do some math, and Jonas,
I'm not a great mathematician here, I know that was
a big subject for you in grammar school. But it's
seven to three Iowa over South Dakota State with two
safeties from Iowa. Their offense has been in and they're
coming up on a fourth and two here with forty
(01:05:03):
four seconds remaining in this fourth quarter. Also going on
right now, late in the fourth quarter, thirteen rank Densey
State is leading twenty one to fourteen, but East Carolina
down seven. They are inside the state red zone and
they came up with the massive goal line stand earlier
in the fourth quarter where the wolf Pack where the
(01:05:24):
one yard line trying to punch it in and just
a host of pirates. East You pirates pushed this dude
back to the twenty yard line. They made a statement
now third and one coming up for East Carolina as
they try to even things up with their in state arrival.
Speaking of North Carolina football, the Heels forty to forty
two leaders against Appalachian States with seven twenty remaining in
(01:05:46):
the fourth quarter. Drake May, quarterback for North Carolina, has
a bevy of scores here, three through the air, but
I gotta tell you this one is just to shootout
over nine combined often from scrimmage with these two teams,
as app State has scored twenty one points in the
fourth quarter alone. Iowa State twenty one to ten leaders
(01:06:09):
against Southeast Missouri State at the half, so the Cyclone
scoring tons of more offense than they're in state rival
in Iowa. We do have that lighthing weather delay that's
still happening here at Kyle Field, number six. Texas A
and M is taking it to Sam Houston State seventeen
and nothing. Haines King with two touchdowns, But we've been
(01:06:31):
in eight weather delay here for over an hour as
lightning in the area has stopped things as they're trying
to get that third quarter under way. And last check
here Jonas as I send it back to you, we've
got a little under thirty seconds remaining. South Dakota State
has the football with twenty five seconds to go, a
third down coming up there on their side of the field.
(01:06:52):
Can they get down the field. That'll be something interesting
to see because their offense, both of them, has just
been a dumpster fire today. Yeah, they just tried to
hook and ladder. There was a hook and ladder and
they didn't pick up the first down on the hook
and ladder. Great, it's great. I mean, look, I mean
(01:07:13):
it's early early struggles. You know, we're trying to get
it together early. They mean just struggles for often just
I mean, that's there's no they always yeah, they always
say that, uh, you know, the defense is more farther
along than the offense early in the season and football,
and and this is proof of that. So that's what
we got here, Jonas you want, sorry to bust into
(01:07:34):
your update here friendly. You know what's funny is that
Faren's like a week or so ago, he actually said
he feels that Iowa's offense this year is farther along
than it was at this time last year. And they
actually managed to score like a thirty one points in
the first game against Indiana last year. A couple of
those defensive touchdown totally n Jonas. I was just gonna say,
(01:07:56):
Bowling Green is leading U c l A at the
Roast Bowl too, speaking seventeen and seven in the second quarter.
So here we go. Yeah, listen, there's gonna be h
but don't worry about it. Virginia Tech being six point
favorites losing to old Dominions A mass above, kiss my ass.
All right, So it is Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio.
(01:08:17):
We are gonna have the scraps coming up in about
ten minutes from now. Some things in the world of
sports and beyond we have not had a chance to
get too, so that'll be happening here coming up shortly.
I do want to point this out, which, by the way,
the weather delay at Texas A and M reminds me
of a weather delay that I was involved in at
a college football game so years and years ago. Is
early in the season typical part for the course, usually
(01:08:40):
weather delays early in the season for college football games
all across the country. And I was at a South
Carolina Georgia game, and the problem with weather delays is
that if you get into the stadium or you're approaching
the stadium, they'll tell you hang out in the parking
lot more fine safety find you know, there's lightning in
(01:09:01):
the area. We don't want to take any chances because
you don't want to be sitting there, you know, getting
ready for the game to start and uh and next
thing you know, you turn to your right and some
guy looks like a tiki torch because of bolt of
lightning just hit his ankle and lit him on fire.
So you don't want that to happen. So they want
everybody to duck for cover and get inside and get
(01:09:23):
away from from the potential lightning that's on the way.
But the problem is is that if you haven't gotten
into the stadium yet, they tell you to go back
to where you came from. Well, where you came from
was a giant cooler of beer and booze. So by
the time we got back into the stadium it was
(01:09:43):
an hour and a half delay. It was ninety minutes,
which meant ninety more minutes of people drinking in the
parking lot before the game actually kicked off. So by
the time that game started, everybody was mangled, I mean,
just integrated and just obnoxious and loud, and then you know,
(01:10:06):
the energy dies out early because all of a sudden,
somebody has a soft pretzel and they start to sober
up a little bit, and then they get tired and
they're looking for a coffee maker. It was so so look,
pay close attention to these weather delays. I'm just telling
you from experience, especially if they happened before kickoff, because
all that means is if you now granted somebody extra
time to rifle beers and jello shots in the parking
(01:10:28):
lot before they go in, and god forbid they serve
booze in some of these stadiums. Now, it could been
being a problem. Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio. I'd also
like to point this out. A couple of nights ago,
we got to see the backyard Brawl, fantastic football game
between Pitt and West Virginia between that and Penn State
per Due on Fox. It was a fun night of
college football. But people are asking themselves, God, this game,
(01:10:52):
I mean, what a great rivalry. Why has it been
so long? Why? I mean it's been eleven years, and
I think now they're starting to schedule, schedule a bunch
of games out that they're gonna play each other more
often because they realize, why are we doing this? This
is a great rivalry. When Mike Gundy came out, this
is probably like a month ago because he's still upset
about the fact that Oklahoma is leaving the Big twelve
(01:11:13):
and going to the SEC. And he keeps proclaiming that, well,
you know this is um, this is gonna be the
end of Bedlam. You know, Bedlam is gonna go away soon.
You know, this is gonna be the end of the
end of the rivalry with the Sooners, you know, based
on what they did. I mean, this is this is
gonna be uh you know, get get you to take
it all in now, because a couple of years from now,
(01:11:34):
when Oklahoma's in the SEC, it's all gone. I get
that he's got a red ass about it. I get
that he's upset that Oklahoma is leaving. I understand all
that they feel like Okloman Texas kind of burned the
conference and put him in a bad spot. I get
all that. Don't get rid of the rivalry because you've
got a bad attitude and you're still a little bit
(01:11:56):
hurt and sensitive to the fact that one team left.
I understand, and it makes all the sense in the world,
especially a guy like Mike Gundy, who played in that
rivalry and has been a part of the tradition for
as long as he has and now as a head coach.
But if you dismiss that rivalry and toss it to
the side because you're stubborn and you want to get
a little bit of revenge against that program for leaving,
(01:12:18):
all you're doing is hurting your program, and you're hurting
college football as a whole. Pitt in West Virginia should
have never stopped playing. And I don't want to hear. Well,
they change conferences, tough balls. You have nonconference games, figure
out a way to make those one of them. I
can assure you Iowa, Iowa State, that's never going anywhere.
(01:12:40):
South Carolina Clemson is never going anywhere. It's never going anywhere.
Like these rivalries or what's great about college football. Don't
let a bad bad blood because one program left to
another conference or the College Football Playoff or whatever you
want to do, whatever you're upset about the changing landscape
(01:13:02):
of college football, whatever you do, don't dismiss these rivalries.
Is just another game now all of a sudden, Well,
it's just another game. I mean, they left to go
to a conference. It doesn't mean anything to them. Why
should it be anything does. It's not just about you,
it's about your program. It's about your fan base. And
when you see the electricity that you got between Pitt
and West Virginia, you're running the risk of never getting
(01:13:25):
that again just because you want to be stubborn, because
you got your feelings hurt that one team left to
go to another conference. It's why when Mike Gundy made
those comments, I thought, look, I love Mike Gundy, think
he's done a great job at Oklahoma State. What are
you doing, dude? I like, like, cool down a little
bit and then start making some decisions towards the future.
But that is one game and one matchup that should
(01:13:46):
never go away, and I hope it doesn't. Jonas Fox
Sports Radio. You can hang out with us as always
on the I Heart Radio app, and you can get
me on Twitter at the Jonas Knocks at the Jonas
Knocks on Twitter. Let's go live to our I don't
care about the clock because I need to get in
another comment on the air inside or Iowa Sam for
the latest. Sam. It's all over, Jonas, It's all over
(01:14:07):
seven to three. Iowa did it a seventh three not
a touchdown scored. Let's do to Iowa fami what he
does to you. Jonas seconds. That's that's it, That's all
I had to say. Three believable. Can we go to
break please for the love of God, and you're out,
(01:14:32):
Jonas knocks. Fox Sports Radio. You can hang out with
us is always on the I Heart Radio app coming
up in a little over ten minutes from now. To
make sure you stick around the great Steve Hartman VJ. Husky,
You're gonna be on the air with you here. We've
got a lot to get to in the world of
college football. One of the the big early matchups between
Georgia and Oregon is underway in the A t L
(01:14:54):
at the Mercedes Benz Dome, and Oregon's uniforms are absolutely brutal,
just brutal. They've got green on green, They're blending into
the turf. They're in Atlanta, and uh, they look like
a box of Mike and Ikes minus the red flavor.
Just not not a good look. Crawl the way through. Listen,
I'm I have Georgia puts there in. Oregon puts together
(01:15:16):
great unis great combos. This is not their best look,
but we will. I wouldn't eat that, that's for sure. No,
it ain't my eyes work. I know what I'm watching.
So if you're wondering and you're listening right now and
you can't get to a television, let me just go
ahead and again paint it out for you. Georgia is
wearing their traditional red top gray pants get up, defending
(01:15:36):
national champs, and they're playing a box of mic and ikes.
So there's that. That is your coverage of Georgia and Oregon,
and Hartman and v J. Housekey can can fill you
in on the rest throughout the next couple hours. Here
coming up in about ten minutes from now. Right now, though,
it is time for something we do on the show
every single week. We put a bowl on this bad boy.
(01:15:56):
It's called this Jonas, how could you not get to?
These stories are the scraps? And for that we go
to our executive producer, the man with the greatest pipes
in radio, the one and only Danny g Deja vu
all over again, Jonas, Why do I feel like it's
five fifty a m on the West coast right now?
(01:16:19):
That's right, I've done this a hundred times, and we'll
do it a hundred and one times here. I don't
think you mentioned Serena in your two hours. Yeah, listen,
that's football season. Well you sit courtside at w NBA
games though, so I know this wasn't intentional on your part.
One of the greatest to ever do it, except, of course,
(01:16:39):
your old friend. Jason Whitlock has been stirring things up
on Twitter by explaining that she only has half the
winds as Martina and Avratolova, so he's asking people to
please stop calling her the goat? Why why? Why? Why
can't anybody just argue their point? Whatever happened? Do we
agree to disagree? Is that just a non existent in
(01:17:00):
this country and especially in sports, Like if somebody thinks
Serena is the greatest ever, that's fine. If somebody thinks
it is Martina Navatoglova, that's fine. If somebody thinks Roger
Federer or Novak Djokovic are the greatest, and somebody else
thinks Michael Chang is the great who cares? They just
people feel what they want to feel. Look, I think
Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of all time. He
(01:17:20):
doesn't have as many majors as Jack. That's that's okay.
Like there's some people who still think Joe Montana is
better than Tom Brady. He doesn't have as many Super Bowls,
but he never lost one. That's okay too. I don't
know why we continue to go down this road. It's weird.
It's a weird thing, all right. And I'm surprised you
didn't latch onto this article NFL dot Com. Here it
is Uncrustables weigh ends in H two oh how NFL's
(01:17:44):
Oh Lineman and d Lineman manage their weight. One of
the players that they followed around was Bengals old lineman
Ted Carriss. He puts at least six thousand calories into
his body every day. Here's his training camp routine. You
ready morning before two pm, practice a fruit smoothie, ten
bottles of water, Gatorade with salt, added gallon of water
(01:18:07):
before his way in two extra large uncrustables, drip drop electrolyte,
powder packet with water, steak and pasta in the team cafeteria.
To kick off his after two PM regiment, a snack,
usually a large protein shake, another gallon of water, more
gatorade with salt, added more drip drop, and then he
(01:18:29):
likes habachi, Philly cheese, steak, and pasta. And then he
finishes things off with uncrustables or frozen pizza before bed. Okay,
I swear to God, that's more than I eat in
two weeks. And I'm not making that up. That's in
two weeks combined. I don't eat that much. I would
also like to say this, what about what about back
when you were shooting it up? Though? Oh yeah, that's
(01:18:50):
a good story. Yeah, that's a different story. I would
go buy those rotisserie chickens and I would just have
one of my glove box at all times and just
start firing away. I will say this are the incrustables,
those peanut butter and jelly things that you get in
the supermarket in the freezer. Yeah, and I guess they
make him in extra large size, which those things are phenomenal.
There's the ratio of peanut butter to jelly in those
(01:19:13):
is always perfect. And plus if you put them in
the fridge when they're cold, they're they're tremendous. Man. Those
I'm a big fan of those. I haven't had one
in a while. Maybe in my next cheat day that's
what I'll do, although it's not enough to make me
an offensive lineman. That's a lot of food, man, that's disgusting.
And you wonder why Alan Fanica looks like the guy
(01:19:34):
from Dallas Buyer's Club. Now you wonder why, because all
the food he had to eat what he was playing.
Son of a bit
