Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Are you to college fans?
Welcome to the biggest tailgate party in the nation, Fox
Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by beat MGM, the

(00:21):
King of sports Book. We're setting you up with the
information you need to watch your team win. Let's go.
We're here to break it all down. Let's go. This
is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet
mg A. We're live from your tail game. Here's Brian no,

(00:42):
former Penn State All American, Rich Mornberger and picks Wise
lead betting analyst Jared Smith. Oh, what's going on? Everybody?
Welcome in here. We're getting y'all set for the games
with some facts figures mixed with some fun, mixed with
the raisiness. I'll tell you what, I've had something that's
gonna put the face. Put a smile on your face.

(01:04):
You Nitney Lions. You Rich orn Berger and Jared Smith.
Penn State is a top ten team. How about the
Nitney Lions in the top ten? Good news for me
to keep my sanity. Penn State has a bye this week,
so we'll talk Penn State like crazy next week. You
know that's huge, huge, game next week. Huge game. Yeah,

(01:26):
maybe a look ahead game for the amazing blue here
today against I You with Michigan taking on Penn State
next week. I don't know, but we'll get to that
as the show progresses. But a couple of top matchups here.
We got three ranked versus ranked games number eight Tennessee
at number twenty five. L s U catches my eye

(01:47):
the most, and I'm really curious to see what happens
with Brian Kelly, the l s U head coach, because
if he beats the top ten team today, there's gonna
be a lot of play. A lot of people that
were clowning b K in that first game of the
year when they lost to Florida State. They had the
long drive, look like they were gonna tie up the
score after scoring a touchdown, missed the extra point, it

(02:10):
was blocked, and then that was it and it was
just a b K gift fest. If he beats the
top ten team a lot of people are gonna be
singing a different tune today. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. Look,
you need you need those big wins early in your
career for two reasons. One, obviously, it's for the locker

(02:31):
room first. You know, in order for a new team
to have faith in you, you need to come out
the gates and build that confidence immediately. And then obviously
you just put stones on top of that foundation, but
you need a corner stone otherwise the house will crumble
later on. And I think this is the type of game,
especially with the way the balls are playing that Elise,
you absolutely needs for b K to start stacking up

(02:55):
some of those stones. Now in the pros, it's different.
In college football. It's it's it's about your donors and
your boosters too, those people who are getting entertained in
the athletic Director's box, you know what I mean while
while they're watching this game, and I promise you that
that box is gonna be I mean, just stuff to
the rafters. There's gonna be all the important luminaries of

(03:17):
Louis Louisiana crammed into the press box and the suites
there at l s U. And if the Tigers don't
prevail and they and especially if they get somehow blown out,
it's a big problem for Brian Kelly. So trust me
when I tell you this is going to be one
of those statement games early in the coach's career at
a new school. Otherwise it could be a short leash. Guys,

(03:40):
we're breaking news. Um, Malie Cunningham is not gonna play
today for Louisville against Virginia. That line is on the move.
Sorry to change the subject, but my little odd screen
here just started lighting up, and I was wondering, why
so we have breaking news this morning right out of
the gate. How about that right out of the gate,
we have a big story, um in the a SEC.

(04:01):
But back to the SEC, this game is I love
this game today. The only thing that's not exciting about
this game is that it's not and I wish it
was a night game. I wish it was a Death
Valley night game because I think the vibes of eleven
am local start time might be a little sleepy. But
that being said, I think there's a lot of things

(04:23):
to like about L s U in this spot. I
think this is you know, you want to talk about
look ahead spots. Tennessee plays Alabama next week, so this
is one of those situations as we talk about where
I can absolutely see Tennessee looking ahead. The one question
I have though about L s U is the secondary
can this L s U secondary. Hold up. They just

(04:46):
allowed Robbie Ashford, the Auburn quarterback who had thrown for
three seventy two the first four games combined, go off
for three thirty seven last week. And Brian, kudos to you.
We at a text from you about halfway through L
s U Auburn saying, yeah, you might want to go
live bad L s U right now, And that was

(05:07):
a tremendous call. My man, Are you sure you don't
want to take over the gambling analysts because that was
spot on with how the rest of that game played out.
But my point being, I think there's a little bit
of a little bit of juice to L s U
this week. And we'll get into what I'm sure later
in the show. But I heard a players only meeting today,
uh this week with the offensive skill position players and

(05:28):
Jade Daniels trying to get back on track with this offense.
He is an interesting figure in this game because Tennessee
hasn't defended a LICK this year, and their offenses that
they faced acerant ball State pit with a backup quarterback Florida,
who you know, has been very volid all the times
like this, this might be the toughest test the Tennessee

(05:49):
defense has faced this year, and it's on the road,
which makes it even tougher, and it's in Death Valley.
So we'll see. But I like the L s U
vibes of playing well today. Maybe they don't win the game,
but I think this one's gonna gonna gonna be fun
to watch. Is it the b K vibes? Is that
what it is? Is it really the b K vibe
shootout vibes? To hint what that might be getting to

(06:13):
with my picks later today, I like that we'll dive
into that game even more. That's the matchup of the
day in my mind. I loved so many different details
on that. How about the Pack twelve really interesting matchup
here as well, Number eleven Utah against number eighteen U
c l A. I love to quote from Utah head

(06:33):
coach Kyle Whittingham this week where he was talking about
Dorian Thompson Robinson, the U c l A quarterback who's
been there for seventeen seasons it feels like, and Whittingham said,
he seems to be very poised, makes plays, takes care
of the ball, and he's a dual threat, which is
the biggest issue for us, and that's the thing. Can

(06:55):
DTR create with his legs, keep plays alive and get
of Utah some fits because when they have a physical
you always hear about running backs like a downhill running back.
Utah has a downhill defense and when you get some
wiggle from a dual threat quarterback sometimes that throws you off.
So that is in my mind in that game, the

(07:16):
matchup to watch DTR going up against a Utah defense, Yeah,
no question about it. And you know what, if you
ask any defensive coordinator what they prefer to to scheme for,
they're always gonna say a pocket passer because I know
where he is. You know, like it's it's a lot
easier for a defensive minded coach to wrapper his wrap
his head around playing against a Tom Brady, for example,

(07:39):
than a Cam Newton. Now it may not be easier
to beat Tom Brady than Cam Newton, but the point
I'm trying to make is keep when when a guy
stays in one spot, when you know exactly where he's
gonna be, you can build your chessboard around that. But
when you have a moving piece that you can't, I mean,
that is the frustration and Frankly, both sides of this

(08:00):
docket has that DTR on u c l A side
and rising on the Utah side. It is gonna come
down to the defense. Whichever defense stops the run, and
in this game, it means you're gonna have to shut
down the run game, meaning handing off to the backs
and all the r p O fix and things like that,
but also the quarterbacks containing them in the past game

(08:20):
so that those pass plays that are broken or that
these quarterbacks don't have enough time for downfield turn into
run plays. Whoever does a better job of that wins
this game. In my mind, this is my favorite game
of the week just from a matchup standpoint. I think
there are so many things to like about both teams,
and that's why we've seen this market very fickle this week.

(08:43):
On this game, open three jumps to four and a
half with Utah real quick, and since then we've seen
other smart So basically, the first move of any opening
line is always the sharpest, and then the second move
a little sharp, and then the third move a little
les sharp, and then usually there's a lull for a

(09:03):
few days, and then now as we get to the
later in the week stage, limits start to expand at
some of the sports books, and some more sharp money
tends to flood the market. Well, when that opening happened,
we saw U c l A money come back, and
now we're seeing this line drift back towards three. Rich
completely nailed it. The U c l A offense against
the Utah defense is the more intriguing of the two

(09:25):
matchups here, and what I'm seeing with Utah's defense, They're
struggling a little bit to stop the run this year.
Outside the top sixty and success right, the Gators average
three point two yards before contact and four yards per
rush after contact. That is the most, you know, toughest
offense that I think Utah has faced this year in
terms of ground and pound athletes. Obviously Anthony Richardson, but

(09:50):
sometimes the coaches will tip you off to what's actually happening.
So Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scally made a very minor
adjustment recently at his kind of again tipped his hand
to how well his team is playing against the run.
Against the Oregon State and against Arizona State. You started
to see Utah play five down linemen, which is not

(10:11):
something that they've ever really done with this with this scheme,
and I think that's kind of telling you how his
you know, how his team is fired against the run.
They need to add another lineman on the you know,
on the line of scrimmage to try to stop the run.
And that's concerning to me. I think you seel I
could take advantage of that if you know there's opportunities

(10:32):
in the back end. The one thing I will say
this will be the third mobile quarterback Utah's face this year,
Anthony Richardson and Emery Jones. So they haven't done well
against them, or they've done okay against them, but they've
faced them. There's exposure to that. So maybe a little
bit easier to prepare for this week. But I thought
it it was intriguing that Utah has been adding a
fifth down lineman because it kind of tells you how

(10:54):
they feel about stopping the run. To me, it's always
interesting how reputation work, and some reputations are spot on,
some reputations are a little bit off. And I think
of U c. L A. It's similar to a team
like Oregon, where you just think of them like Ah,
they throw a bunch of bubble screens, they try to
tricky a little bit. They're not smash mouth. Some of

(11:17):
that is true. But if you look at Oregon, for instance,
they've been a dominant running team for many seasons. You
can't just trick people when you're running the ball down
someone's throat, and so if you apply that to U
c l A. This is a reputation game for them
going up against a physical team like Utah. If you're
able to out physical Utah, they're gonna be some people

(11:39):
that open their eyes and say, oh wow. It's gonna
take something astounding for U. C l A Or Oregon
to shed themselves of that, like Finesse Moniker. But I
think today is a step in the right direction. If
U c l A Is able to do that against Utah,
that is such a good point about the run game
in the Pack twelve overall, and I mean over our
entire lives. Like the best USC teams, they were anchored

(12:04):
by a great run game and really fierce defense. You
know you said it right with the Ducks. I mean,
every Oregon team that has had a great, successful season
has been anchored by their run game, and the same
is true for both of these teams we're seeing today
in this Pac twelve matchup. U c l A is
anchored by their run game, and so is Utah, and

(12:24):
a big part of it is because their quarterbacks are
so mobile and and look, I understand it. You know,
quarterback runs almost feel like some of those trickery plays,
but they're not. That's college football now. You have to
be able to stop the run. And that includes the
QB read. That includes the zone read right, that includes
the the the quick screen or the quick option with

(12:45):
the QB coming outside on almost a sweep, or the
planned QB runs where you're running back turns into your
lead blocker. Both these teams have all those plays in
their playbook and you're gonna see them. It's a part
of the run game, and it's the reason why both
of these teams, Utah and u CEL, why I've had success. Yeah,
the one thing I'll add to is this will be
the toughest defense that you see his face this year

(13:07):
Alabama State Bowling Green South, Alabama. Washington was so banged
up short week coming off the Michigan State game. This
is a big step up for U c l A today,
and I know Utah has been a little bit believe
you know. Below expectations. You know, we had we had
them pegged as a top ten defense. Maybe they're a

(13:27):
tier below that, but there's still a tier, multiple tiers
above everyone else that they've played this year. DTR has
also got a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
He said after the game against Washington last week, we're
the worst four and no team in the country. And
I understand his frustration because he he might be right,
But is his focus in the right place? Is it

(13:51):
too worried? I mean again, I don't know. I'm not
at practice. I don't have that access. But when you
hear quotes like that, and the press conferences, to me
are glimpses behind the curtain. The coaches don't give you
as much as the players do most of the time.
That I mean the eighteen twenty year old kids, they're gonna,
you know, give you their emotion a little more often
than a year old man would when he's been trained

(14:12):
for this for years. But I can see a vibe
of DTR playing a little too aggressive over his skis
where I think Cameron risings a little more in in,
you know, within himself. I guess that is what I'm
trying to chip Kelly clearly believes that, you know, angry
DTR is the best DTR because that has a lot

(14:33):
to do with messaging from from the head coach to
his team. Like, listen, these are a lot of times
in college football when you hear a quarterback say something
a little chippy, especially a quarterback, it's because that's what's
being messaged in the meeting rooms. I remember doing it
too during my playing career and thinking, wow, I sound
exactly like my head coach. When you start to sound

(14:54):
like your dad, when you're exactly and because I mean
in your the fan Emily is the football team, right,
And who's at the head of the table, it's Chip Kelly.
What is he telling this team? You guys aren't being respected.
You guys aren't being respected. Everybody thinks Utah is about
to beat us up. Go prove them wrong. We're the
worst four note football team in the country. Go prove

(15:15):
them wrong. And so DTR. He's eating his mashed potatoes
and Dad's talking at the other end of the table,
and he goes, you know what, He's right, we are
being disrespected. And when the media talks to him, he
regurgitates what he heard, and trust me, that's because he
thinks that's what this football team needs to beat Utah today.
We'll see how they can. I'm just hoping you sounded

(15:35):
like Joe pap with the New York accent. Rich, That's
what I'm hoping for that. Don't think, oh man, can
we get Joe pop access on the show? That would
be amazing. I thought we were talking at State today. Guys,
what all of a sudden this next week against those

(15:55):
wolver Raids when we go to the Lions, then I

Jared Smith lead betting analysts from picks wise dot com.
I'm Brian no around the corner one team should have

(16:40):
been more like the New York Jets this week. That
requires some explaining. We will explain it. Right around the corner.
It is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff presented by
bet MGM. Welcome to the biggest tailgate party in the nation.
You're locked into Fox Sports Radio was Countdown to Kickoff

(17:01):

Jared Smith. Welcome back to Fox Sports Radios Countdown to
Kickoff presented by bet MGM. New users, download the bet

(17:21):
That's code countdown in the bet MGM app. Fellas, We've
got Texas A and M at number one Alabama and
it is a twenty four points spread at bet MGM.
Alabama obviously favored here. And I just first second, guys,
Jimbo Fisher. This freaking guy over here. You know Jimbo Fisher.

(17:44):
In the off season. I loved what he would saying.
He was just going toe to toe with Nick Saban.
This is a little taste after Nick Saban said, oh,
A and M, they spent money on every one of
their recruits. Every guy got an N I L deal.
And this is what Jimbo Fisher said in the off
season in response to that. Here he is. Some people

(18:05):
think they're God. Go dig into how God did his
his deal. You may find out about about a guy
that a lot of things you don't want to know.
We built him up to be the Tsar of football.
Go dig into his past or anybody's ever coached with him.
You can find out anything you want to find out
what he does and how he does it, and it's despicable.
That's the Jim bow I want. Come on, let's go,
and going into this game, he went from that calling

(18:28):
Nick Saban a narcissist too. He's a tremendous coach. People
say he's arguably one of the best ever or the
best ever. And I just I go back to the
New York Jets. Remember this is years ago. They went in.
It was the famous Bart Scott can't wait. They could
stop a nosebleed. They were talking trash the week leading

(18:52):
up to that game. I thought they were out of
their minds and it worked. They just had a swagger.
And I also think I go back to Ian Billick,
remember him the Baltimore Ravens head coach. He said something
about his team years ago that I think applies to
Texas A and M today. If you have any hope
whatsoever of going in there and taking down Alabama, it

(19:13):
starts with a belief. It starts with a swagger that
they don't have right now. This is what Billick said
back in the day the Lions, Dan, you don't tippy
toe in, you carry a spear. You go in screaming
like a banshee, and you kicking, you kick whenever doors
in and say where's the son of a? If you
go in any other way, you're gonna lose. That's where

(19:33):
we're at right now. I'm not telling you if Texas
A and M goes in like that, they're gonna win
by three touchdowns. But they have a better chance, and
they have absolutely no confidence, no swagger. It's almost like
genuflecting in front of Alabama like we're not worthy. That
type of thing. They disgusted me right here with the
way they're approaching this game. I mean, look, here's the deal. Um,

(19:58):
when you're a head coach in the NFL, for example,
or or player in the NFL, you you're you're less
of a politician than a head coach at a college
football program. You know, because again the same way we
were talking about how l s you could use a
win against the Walls, especially at home, because they're gonna
be hosting a lot of the luminaries who dumped money

(20:19):
into that program, and Kelly could use a win in
that spot. It's as much political as it is for
the fan base as it is for the team's success
this season. And the same could be said about this
relationship between Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban. Look, we know
where Jimbo came from, and we know that you know,
there's cohort of college football coaches. There's a lot of

(20:41):
things that aren't seen behind the scenes that we're all
tangently aware of that nobody discusses, and nobody really wants
to discuss. And this is the first time we really
got close when two head coaches who are at the
tippy top of the mountain almost started. It felt like
a standoff. He was like, all right, who's gonna blink
for who's gonna start opening up the door and start

(21:02):
dumping skeletons onto the onto the onto the bedroom floor,
and and and are we gonna have a better look
at how college football actually works. The answer was no,
and tempers flared and then they came back down. But this,
to me is very political. Jimbo is saying all the
things that he thinks he needs to say. Because if
he goes out there and he talks about entering the

(21:23):
lion's den with a spear and kicking indoors and screaming
like a banshee and they get smoked by Alabama and
they cover that spread, he's gonna look like a dummy.
So he's he's playing politics right now, and that's that's
the reason why a lot of head football coaches in
college football talk that way. There's a few things coming
to my mind here as we go through this discussion.

(21:45):
Obviously I did not have Brian Billick's uh comment in
my notes to respond to. But it's a gut this
or reaction. It's kind of Game of Thrones, like when
you play the Game of Thrones, either win or you die,
And it kind of feels like we're seeing that manifest
in reality where I don't know what the end result

(22:10):
is with these two programs. I don't know if it's
going to end well for Jimbo Fisher at A and M.
I think it's gonna end well for Nick Saban at Alabama.
I think he's built that dynasty up, to use another
word from Game of Thrones, so much that there's not
much that can tear it down unless some of those
skeletons start to rear their ugly head. But again, that

(22:32):
to me is is a separate topic from football today.
The football game today might and M might be a
skeleton after the game. UM. So the Agg's obviously won
this game last year. They were an eighteen and a
half point underdog. This would be the first time ever
and they haven't played for that long because I and
M wasn't in the SEC for that long, that they
have back to back wins over Alabama. UM. Their only

(22:56):
other winn in Touscaloosa was during the Johnny Men's l time.
So this is one of those games I think that
Alabama wants more than others. And I'm not saying they
don't want the other games, but this is a circle
spot for them, and that's intrigue, intriguing because you don't
see the motivation for that, you don't see the chip
on their shoulder. A whole lot um and I don't

(23:18):
really have much to say about Jimbo Fisher's stock other
than I wouldn't be buying it right now because that
team just doesn't seem to be performing up to expectations
on the field. This is a team that's outside the
top one and rushing successory and they haven't exactly played
a murderers row of offenses. I mean, this is a
team with a great defense, top talent all over the
field on that side of the ball, yet they can't

(23:38):
stop the run. So that's scary because I think you're
gonna see a lot of Gibbs and a lot of
mill Rose today. And how about Nick Saban in the
press conference when asked about Jalen Milrose packages, basically saying, yeah,
what do you want me to just go back and
make some new ones? We already have some, but I
can go back talk to the offensive coordinators, Like It's
just it seems like Nicks that is as wits end,

(24:00):
and I think they might drop a They might drop
a big number today on A and Hm, I like
what uh? I like what both of you said. But
going back to what you said Rich, where this is political,
it absolutely is. Jimbo Fisher knows he doesn't have the
goods in this game, and he's acting like it. That's
what drives me crazy. I would much rather that you
carried you walked around with some swag, that you walked

(24:22):
around with some confidence you carried over the trash talk
in some former fashion. Maybe not the exact same thing,
because they gotta talking to from Greg Sanky, the SEC commissioner,
like boys, cut it out? What are we doing over here?
Basically alleged that Nick Saban is cheating? What are you
thinking right now? So I don't expect him to be
the same guy heading in. But what's at the heart

(24:44):
of this is he knows he's got nothing for Alabama
today and he's acting like it. So he's playing the
safe route. He's not gonna stir the pot. He's not
gonna call his shot because he knows that Haynes King
is a turnover machine and Max Johnson has a hurt
hand and they just got smoked by Mississippi State, right Like,

(25:05):
That's how he's walking into this game. And it's pathetic.
It is absolutely pathetic because you are the center. He's
got a ton of talent. He's tippy toeing around like
I don't want to say something and spotlight on me
when we get rolled today. It's just not a very
good football team. I mean they're outside the top seventy
and like every major category. So yeah, metrically, I mean

(25:27):
from from injury situation, and yeah, to sort of put
a ball on it and to tie up all the
loose ends. We could talk politics all the way up
until game time. The truth is who's going to rule
the land? Well, it's gonna be the kingdom with the
most dragons, and right now that's Alabama tied all back
to wait for this week's episode. Absolutely, Hey, we can't

(25:48):
wait for Isaac Loan krun either. He's with us right
now to spin us around the sporting landscape. I know
what's going on. Good morning falls. Here's reaction from Nick
Saban himself, as rich as at Rich is last common
a moment ago. I'm happy as hell alright, So not
a lot of people can make Nick Saban feel that way,
so kudos to you, Rich. We actually have some fresh

(26:11):
NFL news for you guys this morning. NFL media reporting
that the Washington Commanders are activating rookie running back Brian
Robinson from the non football injury list for tomorrow's game
against Tennessee, less than six weeks after he was shot
twice in the leg when he was the victim of
a robbery attempt. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have just

(26:31):
added receiver Russell Gauge to their injury report. He is
now questionable for Tomorrow's game against the Falcons because of
a back injury. Gauge leaves the Buccaneers with twenty one
receptions in the NBA. ESPN reports that Orlando Magic second
year guard Jalen Suggs sustained a left knee capsule spring
and a bone bruise in a preseason game last night

(26:51):
at Dallas. On the first night of Major League Baseball's
Wild Card Round, the San Diego Padres defeated the New
York Mets at City Field No Less, seven to one,
as they had four home runs off of Mets starter
Max Scherz. Or college football, on Friday night, Houston rallied
from thirteen down with one eighteen to play for a

(27:12):
thirty three thirty two win at Memphis, and Nebraska came
back from thirteen nothing down to when at Rutgers fourteen
to thirteen. They're now three and three two and one
under interim head coach Mickey Joseph Fellas. Back to you,
thank you Illo for not mentioning my St. Louis Cardinals
who gagged away again night and I saw they were

(27:35):
like ninety something in oh, like seventy and oh and
leading by X many runs in the ninth Yeah. I
think it was like, oh, yeah something. I forget the number,
but it was. It was a big It was a whopping,
it was it was a it was a big number number.
You think, uh, like A and M and that's a
big number. Yeah, that's St. Louis number was even bigger.

(27:59):
Uh it is Fox Sports Radios count Down to Kickoff
presented by bed MGM. Let's dive into this big ten
matchup of the day. Okay, we've got number four Michigan
at Indiana again, another big number here, I you plus
twenty two and a half at home. It's a noon

(28:21):
kickoff time Eastern of course on Fox. And look it's
gonna be another heavy dose of Blake core Um today.
I would expect Michigan should have a healthy lead, and
you saw him go off last week against Iowa, who
had a good rush defense heading into that game and
Blake core Um goes for a hundred and thirty three
rushing yards on twenty nine attempts with the rushing t

(28:44):
d on top of that. So unless I you has
anything to keep this game close or to slow down
the run, it's gonna be the Blake Coreum show, I expect. Yeah,
I think you're right, but don't fall into the trap.
You know, this could be one of those sleepy saturdays
for a team who's eyeing a top ten opponent in
just a week. And like you said, we're gonna be
talking about those ninny lines a week from today. But yeah,

(29:08):
this is this is one of those games where emotionally
you gotta be invested for for this team, for this
Wolverines team to come out with a big win, and
you'd hope for that heading into that matchup next week.
But these are the classic trap games. You could see it.
Somebody's in the woods right now just pulling open the
iron jaws and they're laying down the goodies and they're

(29:30):
just saying, come on, we're catching Wolverines today. That's that's
a great visual. So here's a glimpse behind the curtain
of my process every week and how it pertains to
this game story time, guys. Usually about midweek, I text
my my my bookmaker pals, and I asked him if
anything's popping up in the market, anything interesting. I leave
it open ended, and my one pal, who's you know,

(29:53):
been pretty solid with giving me some of these fluky
weird spots, said look out for INDI end of this week. Well,
and again it fits the profile everyone's on Michigan. I'm
seeing of the handle eight percent of the bets, eight
out of ten basically are on Michigan. And then you
look at who the Wolverine's play next week. And then

(30:14):
now we start to see some of the line movement
this morning creep down towards Ish where it was twenty
two almost twenty three last night when I went to sleep.
So I don't have a ton of positive things to
say about Indiana in this matchup. Michigan's numbers are fantastic,
top ten e p A offense and defense, one of
I think two teams in the country besides Alabama and

(30:35):
Minnesota or the other to the other two teams to
have that distinction. But then you start again to see
that trap being laid and this Michigan team hasn't really
played anyone yet, you know, they they just have it
so And I'm not saying Indiana is one of those teams,
but you're asking them to be the Big Ten team
by over three scores. I could see Indiana hanging here.

(30:56):
I'm not saying they're gonna win the game. But when
I hear my bookmaker pal tell me that, yeah, maybe
Indiana is a sleepy, little, you know, sneaky underdog spot.
And then I start to see some reverse line movement
on game day, I start to put a couple of
those pieces together, and I would not be surprised if
the Hoosiers on the round there. I'll tell you what,

(31:17):
nothing feels better than taking a god awful team on
a Saturday and they get it done, at least against
the spread. Where you're just like, yeah, I'm feeling Colorado
Buffaloes today, feeling that that might be the entire state
of Colorado. By the way, didn't talked about Colordo states.
Can we give the waiving the banner for Colorado? We

(31:39):
go like, the best team in Colorado right now might
be the Rams guy including how about this, also we're
talking about the Big Ten. To mention this quickly. Number
three Ohio State at Michigan State. Michigan State is a
twenty seven point underdog at home. That is amazing. This
is an amazing number right here where melt Tucker. He

(32:01):
got off to a great start and now twenty seven
point home dog against Ohio State. That wow, that is crazy.
That length stood out to me. Play I'm not telling
you I'm rushing a bet on Sparty. I'm just saying
plus twenty seven is a huge number and really quick.
We gotta turn up the heat. On another side story
of this Michigan game this week against Indiana, Blake Corehum,

(32:24):
I mean, is making a significant case for himself to
be considered a Heisman candidate. I mean, look, the guy
I think right now is leading, No he is. He's
leading the country in Russian touchdowns. He's top ten in
yards per carry, yards per game. And if he has
another big game against the Whosiers, going into a top

(32:44):
ten opponent next week in Penn State, all eyes on
Michigan Penn State and he has a big game there,
I mean, he he may be getting in the top
three of that conversation by next week. So again, another
little something that maybe right now with the value you're
looking at, maybe sprinkle half unit. I don't know. I mean,
you know, touchdowns then all of I was tea. I mean,

(33:05):
it's it's it's pretty, it's pretty remarkable. In Week six,
it's Corn versus Iowa. I like the half sprinkle over there.
You know we're gonna get half because we gave out
McCarthy a few weeks ago and it's it's been core Um,
that's been the better of the two in Michigan. But

(33:26):
I think the handicaps don't stands if they're undefeated heading
into that Iowa stake game. I mean they're heading into
that Ohio State game. One of those guys is going
to be at the top of that high. Okay, we've
got rich Ordin Berger, Penn State All American. Jared Smith
is the voice he just heard right there, lead betting
analysts from picks wise dot com. I'm Brian Now. Coming
up next, Jared had his eye on some breaking news

(33:49):
involving Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham being out for the game today.
We get some reasons as to why he might have
had his eye on that breaking is. That's coming up next.
It's Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bet MGM. Hi,
this is Jay Glazer and you may know me for
the world of football, or fighting or even shows like

HBO's Ballers. Well you don't know is for my entire life.
I have lived in something I referred to as the
gray depression anxiety. So now I'm coming out with a
new podcast, Unbreakable, a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer,
where each week, while we talk about mental health, I
hope to describe it, give it words. Listen to Unbreakable
with Jay Glazer on the I Heart Radio app, Apple

and we're leading you up to that. This is Fox

the kick of sports spots once again. Here's Brian no,

Rich Hornberger and cheered s. Are you killing me? Ah? Yes,
it is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
bet MGM. Just about two hours and ten minutes until kickoff. Here,
let's dive into this. Check this out r late latter Hey,

our parlay Bladder is brought to you by bet MGM.

and in just a few simple steps, both you and
your friend will receive a fifty dollar bonus bet MGM,
The King of Sports Books, the King of Parlay's okay,
Jared Smith. We started off the show talking about Tennessee

(35:40):
and l s U and it took a sharp left
turn and you went straight to maliek cutting him is
out today for Louisville, and we get some answers as
to why that showed up on the radar. You might
have them Louisville and Virginia. This game is part of
the Parlay Ladder, Is that correct? Lollo, Lolla Louisville. Yeah,

(36:02):
got marbles in my mouth. So that's another glimpse behind
the curtain. You know, we're doing a show and everyone's tall,
everything's hunky dorry. We're ready to talk as sec matchup
of the day and then bang right off the cliff
in Louisville. Lowville. As Malik Hunningham was left in town
this week, he is not making I don't think he's
making the trip because we we got news very early

(36:25):
on in the morning that he wasn't gonna play concussion
and he is not on in an active territory today,
and that impacted the line immediately for Virginia. I got on.
I'll be honest, I wasn't a hundred percent sure that
he wasn't gonna play, but the way that the line
pointed me with Loisville only a two and a half

(36:46):
point favorite at Virginia, he's been awful this year, I
was he was curious. So now we get that news
line still moves a little bit, but I would still
put Virginia not Loisville in the parlay today on the
money line. Listen, both teams looking for the first a
CC win, and I think Scott Sadderfield Seaton Lowville is
getting low hot. And I'm not saying that this is
gonna be one of those spots where he might get

(37:06):
fired on the field like Herm Edwards, but I would
be a little concerned for his job based off of
the start that they've had. And again, I think this
Virginia team has talent. I just don't think they've played
up the expectation. Maybe today, without Malik Cunningham, they can
finally do that. So Louisville goes into parlay. We also
got two big whopper money line underdogs. And again with
these parlays, they're very difficult to hit. We haven't hit

(37:26):
one yet this year. We're oh and five, but we
came close. Last week we hit two out of three.
Not bad. And if you're betting these money lines also
straight up in addition to parlaying them, which I highly recommend,
you made a little money last week on these. So
let's continue these little sprinkle vibes, but also play these
games against the spreading on the money line. Texas Tech
let down spot for Oklahoma State huge bit with I

(37:51):
mean talk about getting a monkey off their back after
losing in the Big twelve championship last year. They exacted
that sweet revenge against Baylor. Now they get this feisty
at Raiders team who already beat Houston, They already beat Texas.
They hung around at NC State and also last week
against Case State in the fourth quarter until Adrian Martinez
took over. Spencer Sanders better be on his game today.

(38:13):
This Texas Tech defense ain't messing around. They can hang.
We'll see if you know Spencer can can can you
distance himself in the fourth quarter with this Oklahoma State offense?
But I think Texas Tech hangs around this game. I
think they got a chance to win. Also, late night,
we gotta give you a late night moneylat Tax wall
after dark Arizona at home against Oregon. How about this

(38:33):
sold out Arizona Stadium for the first time since it's
been a while. It's been a while since people caring
about football in Arizona. They care this week because jet
Fish is starting to turn things around a little bit.
Intoucson big win over Colorado last week, they covered the spread.
They've got three wins on the season, halfway to Bowl eligibility.
And this Wildcats team, they're a top twenty five offense

(38:56):
this year, averaging over thirty points per game. And here's
the big part of this handicapped guys road bo knicks,
no bueno, nine touchdowns, no picks at home this year,
three and three on the road. You widen the sample size.
His career splits thirty four touchdowns, four picks at home,
sixteen fifteen on the road. He's a different quarterback away

(39:17):
from home. I think Arizona keeps it close. I'll give
it to you you one more time forr Gina money line.
Texas Tech money line Arizona money line. This puppy pays
thirty six to one, just a little half a unit sprinkle.
But bet all these individually as well, because if we
go two and one again, I don't want to hear
any complaints that we were down because the parlays are

(39:38):
very tough to hit. It's like going to the roulette
table and just putting your cash on one of the
numbers thirty six to one, basically, right, I like that
pretty much. Are you a Roulette frequent letter? No? I
freaking hate Roulette. But my theory is whatever gave you
initially have success at, that's your game. Whatever game you
lost like ten bucks at, that's that's roulette for me.

(40:02):
I hate Roulette. I lost the first time I played
it back. I love crabs. Yeah, craps. I'll go to
the craps table one day in Vegas. Yeah. By the way,
I take this away from what you're saying there, Jared Virginia,
I was just thinking with Brendan Armstrong, he's burned me
before that game against Syracuse. They had it in game,
went on and he just screwed it up at the end. Hell,

(40:24):
hath no fury like a better scorned You can't roll
like that. That's old news. We're onto a new week now.
He might be your guy this week, you know, coming
up next. There might not be more hype for another
team in college football than this one today. Fox Sports
Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot

(40:46):
com and within the I Heart Radio app search f
s R to listen live. Oh what is going on everybody?
Just two short hours until kick off. We're counting you
on down to kickoff here on Fox Sports Radio. There
is no I would contemd if you guys might disagree,
at least for this Saturday, I don't know that there's

(41:08):
more hype for one certain team than there is for
the number nineteen Kansas Jayhawks. First time college game day
is over there at Lawrence, Kansas. You've got the Jayhawks.
They're undefeated, their five and oh they finally showed up
in the rankings at number nineteen. They were picked in
the preseason media poll to finish dead last in the

(41:31):
Big twelve, and here they are, undefeated, ranked, have a
ton of hype. I don't know that they're gonna live
up to it today, but I would argue, for today,
this is their moment in the sun, at least leading
up to the game against TCU. I don't know if
it'll be their moment in the sun after the game
against TCU. I would say this Kansas belongs in the

(41:55):
top based on their offense this season. They are a
top five efficiency offense. I mean the TSU, by the way,
is also at the very tippy top of that heap.
But Ohio States, another team, USC is, another team, UH
Tennessee is another team. You're noticing a trend all a
p top twenty five teams. So Kansas deserves to be

(42:18):
in this company for what they've done offensively. Where you
worry is they have a putrid defense. I mean in
FBS play they have to be in the bottom twenty five.
They are so bad defensively. So this is gonna be
a shootout. This should be a really fun game. But
you could easily see like all of a sudden, everybody's
eyes are on the Jayhawks and then the horn Frogs

(42:39):
going just you know, you know, they just roomed the party.
So it's it's one of those spots where I don't
know if you're you're a Jayhawks fan or if you've
just been loving what they've been doing for your pocketbook
this season, I'd be worried about this one. So out
of a hundred and thirty one FBS schools, Kansas is
currently one seventeen in e p A per play on

(43:02):
defense Expected points Added. It's just like a nerd metric
that grades every play and either adds or subtracts points
from your total based off of you know, the the analytics.
Uh So, yes, Rich is a center right. Their defense
is bottom tier to say the least. So this is
all I can xs and os this game till I'm

(43:23):
blue in the phase. This game is all about the
mental side of college football, which I think on a
week to week basis, and Rich, I'm sure you can
attest this. The hardest thing to do is get inside
the minds of these kids and to just understand what
they're feeling. TCU is off of an insane win over Oklahoma.

(43:43):
They could have dropped seventy in that game if they
wanted to. They kind of pulled the brakes in the
second half because I think I think they just wanted
to a not embarrassed Oklahoma will be get themselves right
for this game. And Kansas has College Game Day in
Lawrence the week. I mean, I'm watching the visuals now,
it's insane. It is. It's truly a remarkable turnaround for

(44:07):
these programs, especially Kansas. Their win total was one and
a half this year, I mean, and a lot of
professional money came in on the over and I think
Lance Leopold there was some positive vibes heading into the
season about him. But this is just a complete turnaround
for this Kansas program. Now. The one thing I will say,

(44:28):
the horn Frogs are the better team in terms of
being on paper BFS, bigger, faster, stronger, They've got better athletes,
They're highly recruited. Max Dugan is averaging nine yards per
play on first night. Like it's just tc US offense
should walk into Kansas Stadium and do whatever they want

(44:49):
in this game. But what do we see when these
big spots happen, let downs off of big wins, Sometimes
flukey things happen. If you wanted me to paint a
narrow if for how Kansas can win this game, lean
on their offensive line, which is top twenty five and
opportunity rate this year, and run the ball, keep away

(45:10):
from this TCU offense. The defense for the horn Frogs
outside the top seventy five and defensive line yards a
hundred and sixteenth and stuff, right, they can be run on.
Can the Jayhawks take advantage of that and keep the
ball out of Max Dugan's hands. I don't think they can.
And I'll be honest, guys, I think after today we're
talking about TCU not only the best team in the
Big Twelve, but a chance to make the College Football Playoff. Well,

(45:33):
if you're talking about keeping the ball out of Dugan's hands,
which I just love saying right there, I think a
big part of that is the other quarterback is Jalen
Daniels of KU. And it's a really cool story with
Jaylen Daniels. The cliffs notes version is he was lightly
recruited and then he ended up at Kansas was brutal

(45:54):
as a freshman. He's only seventeen years old. Statistically the
worst FBS quarter back in college and so the plan
last year was for him the red shirt and work
on his game, and so the two quarterbacks ahead of
him both got hurt. So Jaylen Daniels is again the
starting quarterback. Last year. Of course, they had the huge
win against Texas. It's just a shootout. Jaylen Daniels played great,

(46:19):
and then he had a decision. So fork in the
middle of the road right, and he could either red shirt.
He played four games, so he could either sit out
the final two games and save a year of eligibility
or play the final two games and burn an entire year.
And he said, you know what, I'm gonna put the
team first. I'm playing. He went out there, he played,

(46:39):
and that cemented him as the quarterback this season. You
think about the transfer portal and what Kansas might have
done if he didn't play those final two games. And
even though it wasn't a work of art last week
against Iowa State, all things considered, he's been really good
this season. A dual threat guy can make a lot
of plays happen with his legs. Good pastor two and

(47:01):
so Jalen Daniels really cool story, big moment for him today, obviously,
with all the hype and hooplah leading leading into this
game and having Kansas from where they were Jared just
said it. The Vegas win total was a win and
a half five already through five games, so from where
they were to where they are, really cool story with

(47:22):
Jalen Daniels in particular, and He is by far the
most important player for Kansas today, no doubt about it. Yeah,
I mean it comes down, it comes down to quarterback play,
It comes down to Look. I mean, Kansas right now
is riding high off of a lot of what they've
done already this season. They just announced what beginning of
the week that they're going to dump hundreds of millions

(47:45):
of dollars into their new football facilities, making huge upgrades.
So this is seller to the ceiling with this Kansas
Jayhawks team. It's been nothing but riding this huge wave
they've created for themselves. It just it feels like is
this where it crashes? And and oftentimes, especially in college football,

(48:06):
there there these aren't pros. These are guys doing this
for the first time ever. You know, in the NFL
we're talking, we're saying goodbye to a lot of these players.
You know, it's the end of the road for a
lot of these players short careers. Everything is just beginning.
These guys are learning what winning feels like, especially a
program like this. So I'm very, very curious to see
how they handle the spotlight after getting zero looks in

(48:27):
the preseason. Absolutely this game and listen, we again, I
said and you know when we broke it down a
few minutes ago, they I could excess and ose this
game till I'm blue in the face. None of any
of the stats or the matchups matter. If one of
these teams mentally is not ready for this game. This
is the biggest moment of the season for both of

(48:48):
these teams. And I know, TC, you just played Oklahoma. Yeah,
this is college game day in that spot. After you
beat Oklahoma, it's easy to beat the underdog. Now they're
the favorite that you know that you take the chip
off their shoulder. Can you handle the success? Some teams
don't handle success. Well, it's really hard. I think handling

(49:09):
success is harder than handling failure. It's easy to handle failure.
You get back up. That's what we're you know, trained
to do. Success. Some people start to look at their
press clippings and they get a little too big for
their breeches, and that's where the problems arise. I don't know.
I wish I knew. If I had a crystal ball
getting inside the minds of these kids, I'd be doing
this show from a private island somewhere and coaches and

(49:30):
coaches to Jared to your point like that is such
a great point about handling success. There are certain coaches.
I mean, do you think anybody, honestly, anybody in that
Jayhawks front office or that coaching staff felt like, yeah,
we'll be five and oh heading into that horn Front game. No, no,
they didn't either, And so there's a little bit of
this imposter syndrome that starts taking place where you go,

(49:52):
god like, I mean, yeah, it's been great offensively, but
it's just the other shoe is gonna drop because our
defense just look at what we've done, and they're watching
the film, so they see it, they see all of
their wards. They're looking at themselves in the mirror before
they put the makeup on, and they're going, yeah, there
are problems here. There are big time problems here. So
when when when the Jayhawks look at themselves and they

(50:15):
do a little self scouting. Trust me, they're nervous and
and the attention is great and obviously we just talked
about it. They're getting some money flooding into the program now,
and the facilities are gonna be better. In about five years,
I'm sure they'll do a ribbon cutting ceremony and who
knows where they'll be at that point, and it's gonna
be gorgeous, and they're gonna have all new lockers where
you know, you put your cleats in and they're cleaned

(50:35):
for you. You know, like little key bler elves are
gonna be in there, just you know, brushing the Nike swooshes.
But but in the meantime, they got football games to win,
and these coaches to have to handle that pressure and
it gets really really difficult, especially when you're not used
to winning. It's gonna be a real scene out there.
I can't wait for it. No, And that's true. It's
a great point about handling success because losing a game

(51:00):
that puts a chip on your shoulder, you want to
right the wrongs. But when you are in sort of
uncharted territory, it's a different deal. I think to the NFL,
look at the Cincinnati Bengals. So Cincinnati, they sneak up
on the NFL last season, end up in the Super Bowl,
almost win the thing, and now they're not sneaking up
on anyone. And it's a different ball game to try

(51:21):
to sustain that success. So it's a great point with
both TCU and Kansas, this is a how can you
handle success? When you aren't sneaking up on anybody anymore,
type spot for them and we'll see how both teams
handled that. That's really interesting. If I could belly ache
for a second, guys, sure on countdown to to kick
off the people. Yeah, I've said that the A P

(51:44):
pole is really the UH friends with benefits pole. You know,
it's not the people we're just having fun, but the
the arguments, the logic behind it, even though it's for fun,
even though it's not to be taken seriously. I get
what the voters are saying with the rankings, like what
their arguments are. And I look at Kansas. I love

(52:07):
how you make this argument when penn Stay finally cracks
the top, like today's the day. I've said this before,
Rich Sudden, I'd say if the Irish, if the Irish
are in the top ten, they'd be you'd be marrying
the A people. You'd be dropping down on one knee.

(52:28):
This poll is to be taken seriously. Yeah, but I
just don't get it. If you look at Kansas, they
were unranked heading into the Iowa State game. Last week.
They squeak it out fourteen to eleven, and now they're
number nineteen what And I look at Baylor. Baylor is

(52:48):
ranked in the coaches poll, their number twenty two. They're
unranked in the a P. They had this crazy smash
mouth game on the road against b y U. They
could have gone either way, and they US lost to
Oklahoma State, who's ranked number seven in the country. And
now Baylor's unranked. It's like, I don't understand what these
voters are doing. They're just completely reacting in the moment.

(53:09):
Power ratings. The power ratings are the only thing that
matters and comes to rankings. So Baylor against Kansas on
a neutral Baylor would be favored. I promise you, yeah, yeah, yeah,
and and and reality is like, and you guys know this,
And and for anybody who's the uninitiated who's listening to
our voices, the way this works is, look, everybody's really

(53:31):
busy all of a sudden during the fall. That includes
football writers, that includes a P voters, that includes the
coaches who apparently vote on these polls. I promise you
they don't. They're sports information directors. Fill this out for them,
and they do it in a harried pace. Because if
you're wasting time voting on who you think really mulling over,
who do you think is gonna be in the top

(53:52):
twenty five instead of dealing with all the chickens in
your coup, You're gonna be fired. So so these things
are not representative. These things are based off of emotions
in the moment. Kansas right now is riding, you know,
an undefeated record, and so everybody goes up five and oh,
Jayhawks making their way into the top twenty five. Moving on.
You know, they're not thinking about anything other than wins

(54:14):
and losses with them entering the top twenty five, and
to your point, neutral field Baylor Bears against those Jayhawks,
we know exactly what that would look like. So with
that said, take it with a grain of salt. And
the only time any rankings really start to matter is
with this top four teams that make it to the postseason,
and it's really only the top ten you're looking at

(54:36):
point on this to me, and again, I don't make
power ratings, but I follow a lot of people who do,
and people who I trust. Kansas is about right now,
I would say, in that makes sense, I swear. It
just seems like everybody's copying off of one guys. I mean,
let us a Road favorite of over a touchdown? You

(54:57):
know what does that tell you about where these teams
are power were rated by the professional sports books and
the oddsmakers and the and the bettors. Whoever the media
guy is that all the other media people are copying
off of his or her, We should name that the

where's Kansas nineteenth? Alright? Nineteen? Bay, where's Baylor? We don't
have bailor unless not in the top ten, then it's

of parlays. Let's do this big twelve matchup of the deck. Okay,
it is Texas taken on Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl.
Right Budual Site got Oklahoma. They are dogs in this game,
al right, Texas favored by seven. I think you gotta

(57:31):
get ready for a heavy dose of sauce today. That
would be Bjean Robinson. So he's got the new Dijon
mustard sauce called Bijeon Mustardson. It's like a touchdown in
your mouth. If you look at Oklahoma's defense, they have
been hot trash. They've given up ninety six points in
consecutive losses over the last two weeks. Right Kansas State

(57:54):
and TCU housed them. And so Oklahoma they're giving up
almost two dred arts per game on the ground. And
so Bijean Robinson, he's rushed for over a hundred yards
in each of the past three games. He's averaging about
six yards per rush. Oh and by the way, he's
got a touchdown in every game this year four Texas.

(58:14):
I think it might rush for We'll put it at
thirty seven hundred yards today. He's gonna go ballistic against
Oklahoma's defense. Yeah, I agree with you. I think Robinson
this is truly one of those showcase showcase games for
the long run hornback and you're right, man, I mean
this run defense, it's it's got awful. They can't stop

(58:39):
anyone and he'll go off and that's gonna be the
game plan. By the way, there's no fair dodging in
this one. Everybody in the building knows what Texas wants
to do. Everybody knows what Oklahoma is gonna have to
stop the long Horns from doing, and they're just not
going to be able to do it. I think this
is just a run fest. And you may even see
Um Bijean on the sideline enjoying some some some of

(59:02):
that mustard on a sandwich in the fourth quarter. He
may not even finish this one. The work may be over.
He could lay the sword down with eight minutes to play.
That's how bad of a beating. I think this is
gonna be so. I heard a rumor that Brian is
not like mustard. Hate it. You've heard correctly. Down It's
a shame because there's so many you know brands and

(59:24):
you know flavors of mustard that I think are fantastic.
I think Bijon is the flavor of the day. The
soup djore right, Um but I think we can do it.
I think when we talk about this game, I'm much
more fascinated with the Oklahoma side of the handicap than
I am Texas um offensively. Now we're hearing rumblings. A

(59:46):
couple of reporters um down there at the Cotton Bowl
are saying that Dylan Gabriel is warming up. Take that
for what it is. I don't know if he's gonna play.
The line hasn't moved since that report dropped. Still seeing
it north of a touchdown with the long Horns is
the favorite, and this line was Oklahoma as a touchdown

(01:00:06):
favorite back in the summer. So talk about the tables turning.
It's been a flip, a complete flip with this Oklahoma defense.
I thought Brett Venables was supposed to be the answer defensively.
Yet you could say that maybe TC you just was
too much and maybe they'll have a little bit more
success today against the quarterback that's not Are we pronouncing

(01:00:27):
it right? Dug in. I want to make sure I
give him his due. Yeah, dug him, Yeah, Duggan. I
think that dug Yeah, there you go. I like call
him Dug d gone. Well, it's it's a mustard theme segment.
So I think that makes sense. But by the way,
guys pro bustard. Where do you guys brown? Yellow? I

(01:00:48):
hate anything that mustard. I hate anything delicious. You know,
I find, excuse me, terrible. What do you guys hate?
I need to know you guys are all lovey dovey
here anything fundament that salad related, green, alculated, anything that's green.
I'm allergic to lettuce. Uh. Really, I battled my whole life. No,
I love it on burgers. I love it on burgers. Uh.

(01:01:14):
The problem with sauce legitimately, anything you you cook, anything
that is served I am eating. Uh. So all of
your mothers would love me. I would sit down at
the table. They'd be like, you want more. I'd be like, yes, please,
you know more. Sloppy Joe, it's I can't help myself.
How about this first time since that Texas Oklahoma this matchup,

(01:01:38):
both teams have been unranked that way back. Wow, well
and you observedly, so you look at this Oklahoma defense again,
not to harp, but this is big on. This is
big on bad is what I used to call it.
Like when you when you know you have a strength
and you're going against like the weakness of a particular

(01:01:59):
team game, you're just you're excited for the matchup. I mean,
Oklahoma has missed eighty four tackles through five games. I
mean that's unconscionably bad, you know. I mean think about Bijon,
he runs through contact exceedingly. Well, this is gonna He's
gonna have a highlight reel by the end of this game.
It's just it's one of those things where, I mean,

(01:02:21):
neither team really particularly deserves to be ranked for their
own reasons. But we know what Oklahoma's problems are and
this could just be we could just watch uh Heisman
candidacy rejuvenated here in this game. This is a huge
game for Texas program. To sark loss. This game last
year was a wild right now you get Venables in

(01:02:42):
his first you know, real experience of this, and I
think Texas will handle the you know, the intangibles of
this game a little better. But I want to give
some some love to the Texas defense. To me, this
is Pete Kwaikowski, you know, second year now, and he's
the architect of those great Washington and Poise State defense

(01:03:03):
is this is a guy that has understood how to
architect and you know, craft the defense. And then this
year they bring in Gary Patterson as like the ace up,
the sleep special assistant, you know, and obviously he's more
of a defensive minded guy, so I'm sure he's spending
a lot more time with the defense. This is a
Texas defense now that is a top twenty five team

(01:03:25):
in yards per play and also they held Alabama to
twenty points. I give credit now, we I know, we
love offense, and I think the Texas defense might steal
the show in this game. And then oh, by the way,
you go from Dylan Gabriel to maybe Darryl Bebel excuse me,
Davis Bebel, and then maybe General Booty Sorry, had to

(01:03:47):
get that name into the shows. The backup quarterback for
Oklahoma today. If it's not Dylan Gabriel, I just I
think it's the Texas defense that's gonna kind of be
the storyline here against one of these backup quarterbacks with
this juvenated scheme. Yeah, I'll back that up with these stats.
Texas is a top thirty five defense and yards per
rushing attempt allowed. They ranked number fourteen nationally in against

(01:04:11):
a run on Pro Football Focus. Uh, let's see what else.
So I got for your Longhorns limited opponents to less
than one yard per carry before contact, and four of
the five games, only Alabama was able to break through
off of an eighty one yard run by McClellan. So
you really you look at this Texas Longhorns defense and

(01:04:32):
you think, well, the only reason why anybody could even
look at Texas favorably is because of the efforts that
they've had on that side of the ball, especially shutting
down the run, which in college football is the whole show.
If you force college quarterbacks have to win games for
college programs, oftentimes they cannot. Look at the NFL, how
many elite quarterbacks are there. There's two handfuls of them

(01:04:54):
around college football. You maybe have three, four five a year.
You know that are gonna filter their way to the
pro level. So if you forced the game into the
hands of qbs, oftentimes you have success, and the long
Horns have had some success that way. I will say
to put a bow on this the phrase big on bad,
I love that. That's gotta be a T shirt at

(01:05:14):
the very least, are you kidding me? Big on bad?
I love that Texas is big running attack against a
bad rush defense of Oklahoma. That's beautiful. We're also on
Quinn Your's watch, expected to suit up had the clavical
sprain suffered against Alabama. So you might see Quinn yours
behind center instead of Hudson Card who was pretty good
last week against West Virginia. But you might have old

(01:05:36):
yours and his line is not going to move too
much between those two. From what I'm seeing, it won't
matter points birdwise between those two. Do you dislike that
I'm against uh, anything mustard related or against Quinn yours? Mullet?
Which do you hate more mustard because it's delicious has
never given me anything but mustard has given me. I'm

(01:05:57):
gonna grow out a mullet and eat a mustard sandwich
next time. Yeah, you can enjoy that while listening to
guys a glowing tron. How about that? I lo is
with us right now for the latest what's going on? Yes,
fellas Dylan Gabriel going through the early warmups is what's
trending right now at the Cotton Bowl. The Oklahoma quarterback
on the field going through early warmups. The Sooners will

(01:06:20):
kick off against Texas just under an hour and a
half from now. This of course, after Gabriel suffered a
head injury and last Saturday's loss to TCU. So a
lot of people commenting on social media right now. Let's
start with Lamp who tweets and I quote Dylan Gabriel,
hurt you trust Booty unquote booty Uh in this case,

(01:06:44):
I have to clarify means of course, General Booty one
of the backup quarterbacks for Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Texas fans seem
very confident right now, Corey tweeting quote, nah, we are
giving up thirty two points to Dylan Gabriel, General Booty
or any QB on that dog bleep roster horns by
forty hashtag hook him. Meanwhile, Texas fan Milan seems even

(01:07:07):
more confident, tweeting quote, Dylan Gabriel, General Booty doesn't matter
horns by a million unquote anyway. NFL Media reports that
the Washington Commanders are activating rookie running back Brian Robinson
from the non football injury list for tomorrow's game against
the Tennessee Titans, less than six weeks after he was
shot twice in the leg when he was the victim

(01:07:31):
of a robbery attempt. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today added
receiver Russell Gauge to their injury report. He is now
questionable for Tomorrow's game against the Falcons because of a
back injury. Gauge leads the Buccaneers in receptions with twenty
one and on the first night of Major League Baseball's
Wild Card Round, the San Diego Padres thrash the New

(01:07:52):
York Mets at City Field seven to one, hitting four
home runs off of Met starter Max Scherzer in less
than five innings. Fell back to you, Thank you so much.
I lo. It is Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff,
presented by bet MGM. Let's dive on in follow the money,
real good money, all right. Want to welcome in Shamus McGee,

(01:08:14):
team lead of sports trading at bet MGM. Okay, Shamus,
welcome in, man Um. I'm always interested in the biggest
pile of cash that's dropped on a particular team on
a college football Saturday. Who is that team? Which would
then mean you guys at bet MGM are rooting against
that team. Who would be that team? Today? It's uh,

(01:08:37):
every week It's Kansas, Kansas. Every week. Uh. We have
a couple of players out there who would like to
place a lot of large wagers on the Jayhawks, but
the whole state in general. I mean, it's every week
no matter who they're playing there back in the Jayhawks,
So TCU is I'd say TCU from today is definitely

(01:08:59):
going to be a need, but most of the future books,
I mean, if Kansas wins the Big twelve and Dayalen
Daniels wins the Heisman, I may have to start updating
my resume. That is rich Um. All right, let's let's
get into Utah u c l A. This line was
kind of hopping around and I'm seeing now U c

(01:09:19):
l A now back to three. It opened three, it
it jumped to four and a half. I'm assuming early
sharp money on the Utes, but late sharp money here
on the Bruins. Push poll game here Sheamus, right, Yeah,
that's definitely an interesting matchup this week. A lot of
love for u c l A definitely round the media
after last week, and that line has really kind of

(01:09:40):
stayed where it's been ever since we opened it. But
we did take some sharp action on three and a
half to move it into that flat three which we
sit at currently. Still taking Utah money, but the sharp
seems to be sharp. Money seems to be on U
c l A another number that has just fallen steeply
since the open. I believe I believe Littleville was favored

(01:10:02):
by five over Virginia on the road here. But the
news about Malik Cunningham. Is there a number? Is there
a number on a quarterback in college like you know
in the NFL feels like it's about three, like the
point shift when a quarterback is absent for a game.
Is there a number on a college quarterback or is
it really very independent on the team in the matchup.

(01:10:24):
I'd say if there's a number on any specific player
in uh in college football, it's definitely on the quarterback. Cunningham,
for sure, it is. He's a ginormous factor, even though
he's playing a pretty embarrassing side in my Virginia Cavaliers today.
Uh Exaily, another game we're looking at. Texas is playing
around eight right now against Oklahoma. What was that spread

(01:10:47):
at the beginning of the year. A lot of factors
go into that. I mean, Oklahoma's defense has been really bad,
and but like if Dylan Gabriel place, he's warming up
on the sidelines, so that's definitely gonna be something to
watch for there. It doesn't look the lines I'm moving
towards oklahom me yet that he would be playing. But
I mean, he plays, that line is definitely gonna move
at least you take three or four points. He's Shamus

(01:11:08):
McGee from bet MGM joining us here on countdown to
kick off. You know, Shamus, I would I'd be offended.
And I'm sure that Dylan Gabriel is not aware of this.
He's on the field. He wouldn't know what the betting
market is. But if I am warming up on the
field and the line isn't moving at all, like that sucks.
You know. If he's look at the NFL, if we're like,

(01:11:29):
I don't know if Tom Brady's gonna play, and then
he's warming up on the sideline the line is moving,
you know what I mean? For the line not to
move at all. With Dylan Gabriel, it's a slap in
the face. It's it's interesting. It's trying to shock him
to me honestly, and I agree with that. I'd be
a little offended too. It's like, I'm I'm a big difference.
I think he's a big difference Baker. In this game.
We have the quarter in the backupspro Oklahoma gairly unknown,

(01:11:52):
I'd say so. I it's definitely interesting to see if
he's gonna play. But I if this line is still
sitting at a flat at and about i'd say a
half hour, I douw he's he's playing. But you know
the coaches this week, with the quarterbacks and the concussions
and injuries, there's a lot more are playing it real
close to the chest. Yeah, and again this dropped into

(01:12:15):
the market. I want to say about I think it
was Pete Damil that tweeted it out about forty five
minutes ago. Um, yeah, about forty five minutes ago. So
the fact that this hasn't moved the line in in
in over half an hour tells me that he's probably
not playing. But we'll see, we'll see. These things have
a funny way of turning around. Um, I'm seeing on

(01:12:36):
my MGM sheet today John Ewing, the PR analysts does
a great job sending this out every morning. Uh, Tennessee
seems to be the biggest bed of the day, the
most bets coming in on the valls. What are you
seeing with this matchup between the Balls and the Tigers?
Down to death? Velly that that line does kind of stake,
doesn't it Tennessee is I mean, they've been rolling. They

(01:12:59):
look really good, a little bang of the secondary, But
I mean this is the LSU team that honestly should
have lost last week to a not good Auburn team,
and so everyone's seeing a short field goal there. I
feel like they're getting away with something, so that it's
definitely an interesting one there. We definitely haven't taken any
sharp money to move us off where we're at. We're
at with Tennessee on a juice plus three for l

(01:13:22):
s U. What are the most difficult games for books
to handicap? Because I just was scrolling through the odds
and I keep running into the military schools and it
made me think, like, is it is it more difficult
to handicap um? You know, the triple option against all
these teams who are largely untested, playing against the military academy,

(01:13:42):
We're gonna see forty rushes a game and maybe three
passes or or am I missing it? Is there is
there another challenge that handicapper has really sweat over. It's
hard to say. I say the hardest book the hardest
college football games to handicap are the FCS games that
we opened the day of the games put the it's
I mean that's a weird one too. I mean you

(01:14:03):
have what army wake army total as well as like
forty a couple weeks ago. Now they're sitting at sixty
five and a half week, so it's a it's every week.
It's it's a different it's a different challenge, it's a
different game, it's a different team, you know, shame as.
I can't help but think when you said FCS about
incarnate word, that's exactly card word of the day, that

(01:14:28):
is right, who is a carnet word? Today? You always
have some gem for us here shaves. Well, I don't
see any FPS FCS. G mean there's any this week
that's a confidence plans, a road favorite. Today we've gotten
some sharp wald. Oh wow, you don't hear that too often. Guys.

(01:14:49):
The Sharps love Yukon. That's more than a goal. I'll
go one late night game because we all love the
pack twelve after dark game. Shame is. I'll be honest.
I think Oregon is on upset alert tonight. I think
Arizona has gotten a little but we keep talking about
Kansas being the upstar team. Arizona's win total was comically

(01:15:10):
low to start the season. They've already won three games
and road bone Nicks. He hasn't played well on the road.
Oregon's got a tough game at u c A coming up.
Is this one of those spots for Arizona that's to
sell out crowded Tucson? It's two touchdown underdog. What are
you seeing tonight with the Ducks in the Wildcats. It's funny.
It does get it does get crazy out in Tucson

(01:15:32):
for these night games and these big primetime games. Uh,
but yeah, I mean it's public money still coming in
on Oregon. I mean, the handle is not as big
as it's probably going to end up being by the
by kickoff for that game. But yeah, I think we
opened up around uh close to eleven and a half.
Ten and Sharper money pushed this to the thirteen a

(01:15:52):
half now where we sit at now. But I wouldn't
be shocked if we just kept more kept taking more
Oregon money. But it's definitely an interesting spot, I say
for sure. James Amis, you're the man. Yeah, I appreciate it,
Buddy Canard him You gotta you gotta take Yukon rolling

(01:16:12):
with the Huskies, no doubt. All right, Samus man, enjoy
the games today. We'll catch you next week. Thanks for
having me, guys, Thank you. There is Shamus McGee, team
lead of sports Trading at bed MGM. Alright, we've got
rich orin Burger. We've got Jared Smith there, the Penn
State tandem. Right, just me lonely no over here, just
pulling for my irish. We'll get to b y you

(01:16:35):
and Notre Dame. Interesting news on that game. We'll get
you at the top of the hour. Coming up next.
Though you've heard of upset alert, it's everywhere. What about
let down alert? Though? Huh, it's gaining some traction over here.
We'll let you know at least one team that is
on let down alert. Around the corner. It is Fox
Sports Radio's Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bed MGM. Kickoffs

(01:17:00):
are coming, Sue, and we're leading you up to that.
This is Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by
Bett MGM, the kick of sports books once again. Here's
Brian no, Rich Hornberger and Jared spare. Yes. It is

(01:17:22):
Fox Sports Radio's Countdown to kickoff presented by bet MGM.
Just about an hour and nine minutes until kickoff. We
have no time to waste. Let's do it. Be prepared
for any situation that may arrive the Situation Room. Hey,
be sure to follow bet MGM across all socials at

(01:17:42):
bet MGM. Okay, the situation Room let down alert is
one of the themes you have for us. Jared, what's
on your list today? Yeah, let's talk. We haven't talked
about this game Missouri at Florida, and we talk a
lot about letdowns after winds. That's the obvious letdown spot.
You just want a big game TCU obviously beating Oklahoma

(01:18:03):
being the headliner this week, but how about letting down
after a long Missouri, they have a two losses. They
fumble away a win against Auburn at the goal on
the following week. We all saw what happened in Columbia
on Saturday. I honestly thought Georgia was going to lose
that game. Down by ten late third quarter, Missouri can't

(01:18:26):
hold the lave. They played well enough I think to win,
but not overly great in the second half. Now they
have to go to the Swamp and face a Florida
team that basically had to buy last week against Eastern Washington.
They did have to move that game to Sunday, which
gives Florida one less day to prepare, but they didn't
play a ton of starters in the second half. I

(01:18:47):
and and Rich this is again, this is why you're
the man here because I'm fascinated with your your approach
to this. Letdowns after a win is easy to handicap,
a letdown after a loss. How is Missouri psyche heading
into this game after almost beating Georgia. We almost had
it and now they have to go play a tough
game against Florida on the road. Oh, it's an emotional

(01:19:09):
drain because there there are book there are games that
toy with your emotions, especially when you're playing against a
team you don't think you can beat and you keep
it close, and then especially it's by issue of your
own mistakes that you you fumble it away, or you
lose it on penalties or whatever it may be, mismanaged
the situation at the end of the game. Yeah, a

(01:19:31):
bad loss can beat you twice, and that that could
very well be the case for Missouri. You laying it
with Florida today, Jared, is that what I'm picking up?
I think, uh, I think we're all laying it with
Florida today. Wink wink, nudge, nudge, and we get that
into We'll get into that a little later in the show.
But listen, I think if you talk about the Florida
handicapped too in this game, they haven't beat an FBS

(01:19:52):
team by more than a field goal, you know they're
wins to me, Utah, us F of course Eastern Washington
don't really put that when in the stratosphere. Those are
all tight field goal games. I think this is a
game where you would expect Florida to stretch their legs
a little bit. It's at by Missouri. Ye, that's a

(01:20:13):
great point as far as being so close and not
getting the win. Interesting stuff with Missoo coming up next,
Big Playability. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Fox Sports Radio dot com and within the I Heart
Radio app. Search f s R to listen live. Oh

(01:20:33):
just an hour away until kick off. It is Fox
Sports Radio's Countdown to kick Off, presented by bet MGM,
and hey, we're less than an hour away from arguably
the best matchup of the day, Number eight Tennessee against
number twenty five l s U. It is a noon
eastern kick in uh death Valley over here. And one

(01:20:54):
of the things I'm looking at in this matchup, guys,
the big playability of Tennessee. Get this that they've had
at least they've had sixteen plays already the valls have
of thirty yards or longer and we're just four games
into the season, So they have the big play ability.
I want to see if that l s you pass

(01:21:15):
rush can get home, if they can uh take away
the deep shots from Hendon Hooker at least limit that damage.
That's gonna be something else to watch in this matchup.
But the big playability of Tennessee. Can l s you
sort of like the Kansas City Chiefs in a way?
Can they make them Nickelin dime their way down the

(01:21:35):
field if they have to score a touchdown? Obviously you
want to do that instead of these deep shots in
these big plays that Tennessee has rattled off thus far
to start the season here. Yeah, and and realistically they're
still gonna be doing it um without without cetera tillman.
Uh you know, so after the ankle injury. That's still

(01:21:57):
gonna be something to watch. But what the Valls have
done season, to your point is they've been explosive offensively,
and it's it's going to look it's it's where we're
out in college football. It's only gonna aid them if
they continue to have success offensively, regardless of the outcome
of this game, because the stage is set. You know
that a lot of eyes are gonna be on this game,

(01:22:20):
and these things help recruiting. So even if they lose,
here's the deal. You better lose close tell us you
don't get your doors blown off by l s U.
And I understand this is one of those upset aler
moments and a lot of people are gonna overreact to this.
These maybe two more evenly matched teams than we're giving
credit for based on polling and all those things, because metrically,

(01:22:41):
maybe they're not as distant as they may appear. I
I look at it this way. Having another explosive output,
having another opportunity to showcase what you can do offensively,
helped you build this program into the future. A doormat
in the SEC could end up rising to prominence every
time you're on national television getting some acclaim from the

(01:23:04):
general viewing public, because part of the general viewing public
are the recruits who you're trying to have those couch
conversations with and say, hey, come on in b of all,
I wonder if Brian Kelly is UH has some enemies
in the scheduling department, because to me, this game being
during the day, not even to the day, in the

(01:23:24):
morning at eleven am local time, kick of course central
time in Baton Rouge, not doing the Tigers any favors
here this game at night. If if this game was
at night, I think L s U plus the three
would have been our best bet of the day. And
I still think L s U is in good shape here.

(01:23:45):
I think there's some things to like about the things
we're hearing this week. Jaane Daniels having the closed door
meeting with you know, some of the players and the receivers.
And what does that mean? Brian Kelly, here's the quote,
we're way too conservative right now, quarterback. So where do
we how do we get more aggressive? What does that mean?

(01:24:05):
I hope it means points because I'm on the over
in this game, but I also think it means attacking
Tennessee at their weaknesses, which is their past defense in
e p A per passed this season, talented group of
Tigers wide receivers haven't quite figured it out yet. Tennessee
also hasn't played anybody akron Ball State pit with a

(01:24:26):
backup quarterback. The Tennessee defense I think hasn't been tested
as much as they might be tested today. If we
get Jaden Daniels in peak form and some rejuvenation at
the wide receiver position, I think this is gonna be
a fun game today. This has shootout vibes. It does,
and if Jaden Daniels comes to play, I think obviously

(01:24:46):
Tennessee could name their number in this game in terms
of their offense, but I think I want to see
l s U put the pedal down today because Brian
Kelly is not known for offense. I think after today
maybe we'll start to get a different vibe about this
Tiger's off Yeah, a couple of things. The slow starts
from LSU. They've been really slow starters this season, so

(01:25:08):
Tennessee you keep on mentioning. And I like the point Jared.
The early kickoff time eleven am Central time, that's local
time for LSU. Just think about tailgating. Just think about
that instead of barbecue food, what are we doing like
breakfast raps today? Yeah, like breakfast burritos. No mustard on

(01:25:29):
those breakfast burritos whatsoever. No, But it could be a
little bit of another sleepy start for l s U.
Maybe they they find their way in the second half.
But I'm expecting a bit of a slower start from
LSU because that's been the trend. That's what they've done
more times than not start this season. And the other
part is the wide receivers k Sean Bute only eleven

(01:25:50):
catches this season so far. He's on NFL radars all
over the place. So is this boutets coming out party
against Tennessee. It could be, And if it is, that's
huge for LSU. You got this Tigers team peg because
if you remember, they trailed Auburn seventeen nothing before scoring
twenty one un answered to to win. They've won four straight.

(01:26:12):
They've all been these these you know heart pounders. UH.
They were down what was it, thirteen nothing to Mississippi State.
They rallied UH on a thirty one to three UH
score fest to get that victory. I mean, it's it's
pretty impressive that Kelly has this team able to overcome

(01:26:34):
some huge deficits early in the season, because they wouldn't
be where they were. Nobody would be talking about l
s U if they didn't have the staying power latent
games that they've proven to have. But you're right, both
of you are right with this early star time. You know,
while everybody is out there with their Bloody Mary's, LSU
may be in the locker room snoozing, because that's what
it's been in the first half of a lot of

(01:26:55):
these games. They just don't play first quarter football and
then they're playing catch up the rest of the game.
And you know, that's been a successful formula so far,
but you're gonna run into a buzz so eventually, I'm
curious to see if the volunteers have enough defensively to
do that. One more quick note, no Cedric Tillman today
for Tennessee That nugget dropped into the market um about

(01:27:18):
an hour or so ago. Didn't really affect the line
at all. The total moved down about a half a point,
but I think that was baked in, as they say, absolutely.
It's Fox Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoff, presented by bed MGM.
Couple of storylines I wanted to throw at you guys.
First one is I did a little bit of a
road trip this week. So I went to Mount to

(01:27:40):
watch that Broncos game live in person. Yeah, I went
to Mount Rushmore and then I was game on Thursday.
I was on the Colts team Total Under, so it
was it was chest gorgeous, but I was there with
my girlfriend. But the first top we made was at
Camp Randall. We went to Wisconsin. It was just along
the way. It was cool. You could you went to

(01:28:00):
the gift shop and you could walk out. They have
a deck you could see the whole field, the whole
stadium was really cool. And when we were walking out,
there was this plaque and it said Camp Randall one
hundred and I'm like, what is this And I read
it and it said it was celebrating the one hundredth
anniversary of Camp Randall Stadium in TV. And then it

(01:28:22):
included some of the names the most influential people who
shaped the first century of the iconic facility is what
this plaque said. And so I'm kind of scrolling through
who's on this. There's some musical acts, former players, Paul
christ his name is on this plaque and fired ran out.
Jim Leonard is also on the plaque as well. But

(01:28:45):
Paul Chris, I'm curious how you guys feel about this.
Is it a big ten thing where Paul Christ he
did a much better job at Wisconsin than Scott Frost
did it Nebraska. It doesn't do the two tight to
gather where you're like, hey, we can I absolutely see
how Scott Frost got fire, but Paul Chris, Paul Chris
gets fired. It was just surprising to me and maybe
that has a little bit to do with it where

(01:29:07):
it differs completely with the Scott Frost reaction. As a
college football coach, you're born to die. You just that's
what it is. I mean, it's what it is. I mean,
how many how many of these coaches right off into
the sunset they hand they hand the headset over to
the next like it's just not the way it works
in college football. Most of these guys to stay too

(01:29:30):
long to the party eventually gets shoved off the ledge,
or a decision is made by anti boosters or an
athletic department that has switched regimes and they want a
fresh face at the front of the program. So, I mean,
is it shocking that a college football coach is released
from his duties after helping a program enjoy a successful

(01:29:52):
century at a stadium? No? No, because again, going back
to the original point, that's the job at the time
you sign your con tracked, somewhere in the fine print
says oh yeah, and by the way, we can fire
you at any time, and maybe we'll have to pay
you a little money, but we're planning on doing it
at some point. Go enjoy, have fun. We've got some
great riches ms from today's show, Born to Die. What

(01:30:15):
was the other one? The bigger and bigger and better, well, big, fantastic, awesome.
Those will live on for me long past when this
show dies. By the way, real fast, could you say
both of those slogans in the Joe pa accent? Real fast?
Rich just yeah, look, you know we got a great

(01:30:35):
run defense then I run in the ball. Well, it's
big on bad this week, you know. And Paul Chris,
we know the deal. He was bored to die. We
are we are. It sounds like something out of The
Godfather too. There was a little bit of that, Yeah,
there was a little bit got that. You got a
little uh I think even on Wisconsin better that way. Well,

(01:31:01):
you know, it was one of my favorite I don't
want to get off the rails too much here, but
there was this big ten commercial where every coach would
would kind of give their spiel really quick, and it
was like a montage and the Penn State was loved it. Absolutely.
He shouted in the camera every time it came on.
You're like, whoa, alright, alright, taking easy? What day were

(01:31:23):
we talking about? I don't even remember. It was just
Paul christ getting oh, that's right. Well, it's funny because
we had this happened earlier in the year with Nebraska
and Scott Frost and it did not go well the
first game post Scott Frost for Nebraska, and I know
because we we gave out Nebraska. That's the best met
that day and we got absolutely whopped. Um. I mean,

(01:31:45):
if you want to talk specifics about the game this week,
I definitely think Northwestern is live. I think I think
Wisconsin they've been had. I mean the defensive, you know,
inefficiencies have been glaring, and I think that's the big
reason why Paul Chris probably left his job. There's a
lot of surprises in that locker room. I'm sure. I'm

(01:32:07):
sure there's a lot of questions in that locker room
this week too. And I think that's the thing that
it's very hard. It goes back to the Kansas TCU
game where you're trying to get inside the minds of
a shock value, you know, moment with ye old kids.
It's very, very hard to do. I'm sure there's some
people in that locker room that are a little upset.

(01:32:29):
I think it's a really interesting spot for Jim Leonard,
former player, takes over for seven games. This is a
legitimate audition for him to possibly be the next head coach,
and it could swing one of two ways. You mentioned
Nebraska and it didn't go well after they fired Scott
Frost their first game after that, think about Georgia Tech
where Jeff Collins gets the boot and all of a

(01:32:50):
sudden they they're a live dog. They win a game
outright against Pitt. So really curious to see how Wisconsin
performs today with Jim Leonard, because you've got it's weird, right,
You've got this chance you could be the guy going forward,
and you've got this team that is completely a disaster
right now, right Like that's a tough spot for your

(01:33:13):
your your audition. You know, it'd be like, all right,
you're gonna try out for um, what's the singing show
that was really popular American Idol? American Idol. You're gonna
try out for American Idol and your voice is just
horse But this is your shot, you know what I mean? Like,
that's where Jim Leonard is. Jim almost get the job

(01:33:33):
with the Patriots. Didn't he get an NFL didn't get
some NFL looks he might have? I think he might have.
I can't remember where he was on the coaching carousel,
but I mean he played for a long time in
the a f C East with the Buffalo Bills. So
wouldn't shock me, Especially how Belichick scouts his opponents, It
wouldn't shock me if he was looking at him to

(01:33:53):
the staff or did for a short amount of time.
They should just bring Barry Alvarez back. Isn't he still
the A D I'm pretty sure he's still they how
about get Barry on the sideline. I'm not sure about Wisconsin.
He's got Notre Dame ties though, so solid individual. All right,
we's references today. We'll give you one for Barry Alva

(01:34:17):
as a Notre dame. Thank you appreciate that hey. Be

(01:35:59):
dust it off. I spend watched yet again. So I'm
not gonna bombard you with fifteen different odds. But let's
go with the top four here. Okay, So c J.
Stroud of Ohio State, he leads the pack. He's at
plus one fifties, so basically one and a half to
one odds. Right. Then you get Caleb Williams at USC
four to one. Bryce Young, the Alabama quarterback with the

(01:36:23):
shoulder that's day to day, messed it up against Arkansas
last week. Bryce Young is nine to one. And then
you've got Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker to one. He is
now within the top four in terms of odds to
win the highs. What stands out to you, guys as
far as this goes? You know, I'm gonna step outside

(01:36:44):
that top four you gave us, and a lot of
books they're putting them that you know, plus two thousand
plus eighteen hundred around that area. Blake Cora, Michigan. I
mentioned him earlier in the show. This matchup against Indiana
this week. I think watching Michigan take on a top
ten opponent in Penn State right now, um they're on

(01:37:06):
there by Michigan could have a win. So this is
a meeting that's obviously going to be of national interest
in two weeks. Assuming that Korham gets a job done
against the Who's Yours this week, you have this. If
week five it's something like plus four thousand, it's all
the way under plus two thousands. So there's still great
value here before his name explodes. And I know it's

(01:37:27):
rare that we see a running back anymore when the Heisman,
but it has happened on the off chance that we
see some of these quarterbacks falter late in the season,
and Corum and this Wolverines offense, which is dependent on
his abilities, continues to surge. I like the value you're
getting here in week six. This might sound really boring,

(01:37:48):
but I think C J. Strouds already won this award.
I don't really mean that. I mean I think obviously
there's still some there's still some opportunity if Ohio State falters.
But if Ohio State finishes the season twelve and oh
there is nothing any of these other guys can do
to win that award based off of where c J.

(01:38:10):
Stroud's numbers are and Bryce Young getting hurt. And I
think Caleb Williams, as much as I love what USC
has done, I think if you stack up Ohio State
at USC, even if they both go undefeated, Ohio State
and c J. Stroud will get this will get this nod,
and there is again, there is opportunity if the Buckeyes lose.

(01:38:34):
That's why a Michigan player made a lot of sense
to me. We gave you J. J. McCarthy had a
hundred and one a few weeks ago. That that bets
pretty much done. Now now it's Blake Corum at eighteen
to one would be the other guy in this market,
because again you have to look at it from a
team success standpoint. Blake core Um at eighteen to one

(01:38:54):
Michigan will not be eighteen to one money line against
Ohio State in that last game, but here it'll be
I don't know what a number will be, but it'll
be significantly less than that. So it's that is a
direct head to head. If Michigan wins and Blake Cooram shines,
that's the that's the guy that would assume that role.
I think Jamir Gibbs at one is another player I

(01:39:14):
would take a take a close look at now that
you know Bryce Young's out, and I I think that's
a good number two because you do have a team
that is going to lean on the running game, and
you have a team that you would expect to be twelve.
But oh and the team's success element to this award,
in my opinion, is paramount guy. So I hate to
be the boring guy, but c J. Stroud to me,

(01:39:35):
is the far, far and away front run. Your team's
success is your shadow to the individual player. There's just
no getting away from it. It factors in so heavily
whether it should or shouldn't it does. You Know what
It's interesting to me is when you start looking at
these odds and c J. Stroud is plus one fifty,
You're like, Uh, it's kind of a letdown. That's not

(01:39:57):
a big win. And if we we go, it's e J.
Stroud now and win. But I would just encourage people
to think of it this way, think of a money
line bet today. If you win a money line bet
today at plus one fifty, that's pretty good absolutely right, Like,
look at L s U there plus one twenty right
now against the top ten team in Tennessee. So if

(01:40:19):
you pick LSU to win the game out right at
plus one twenty, that's a good win. So I think
there's a tendency to just kind of turn your nose
up at plus one fifty and C J. Stroud if
he ends up winning the thing and you get those
odds at plus one fifty, you wouldn't roll your eyes
at a money line win in an individual game. I

(01:40:40):
don't know why we would do that for the Heisman Award.
It's great point. I just think a lot of people
look at futures as the bets where, you know whatever,
you're willing to risk a little bit to earn a lot.
And so whether it's picking a national champion or it's
picking a Heisman winner, whatever it maybe everybody's searching for
that value. But the truth is, if you treat it

(01:41:01):
like your weekly betting profile and you say, hey, yeah, no,
those are likable odds for a candidate who I feel
like is a lock of shoeing at the halfway point
of the college football season. That makes perfect sense. But
you know, look, there are a lot of risk takers.
There's a lot of people are looking for those values.
And I'll say this about uh one last uh name

(01:41:22):
on the list a little bit higher than Blake Corum
is Caleb Williams. You know, you look at where he's
sitting right now in the value could get and the
storyline with Lincoln Riley and how he's made so many
Heisman winners in the past, and what he's been able
to do in a bounce back game against Arizona State
if the Trojans keep winning. We know this is as
much about team success as it is about individual performance

(01:41:46):
as it is about popularity. And there's no question that
people will fall in love with that storyline. Riley's building
another Heisman candidate out there with the USC Trojans, so
we'll see what it shakes out to look like. But
I agree, I think tippy top of this list, c J.
Stroud is a runaway favorite. Trying a bow quickly on value.

(01:42:06):
We we hear that word a lot. Value could be
a minus four hundred favorite. If sure, the actual price
should be minus five Yeah, I think we misconstrue value
is long shot, and it really is just price relative
to the market. For example, if I'm driving down the street,

(01:42:27):
I see two gas stations. One of them has gas
for two dollars a gallon, the other one has gas
for two oh five. Well, there's value with the two
dollar a gas gallon even though it's the same. You know,
do you do it? Assume the same octane gasoline. So
the plus one fifty you're implying at odds of that,
you know, bet hitting at plus one fifty. So in

(01:42:51):
your mind you have to say, if in five out
of ten scenarios I see this playing out, there is
a lot of value with plus one fifty. So that's
the one thing that I try to preach on the
shows that we do, especially on Picks Wise, is to
get your mind away from oh, if it's not a
ten to one, thirty to one, there's no quote unquote value.

(01:43:12):
There definitely his value with C. J. Stroud at plus
one fifty if in your mind, in five out of
tend scenarios or more, he wins the war. Now it
makes perfect sense. Somebody else who makes perfect sense, our guy,
Isaac Lohan, Cron with the latest. What's going on? I low,
you're darn right, Steve Sarkisium just confirming fellas to long

(01:43:33):
Horn Network that Quinn yours indeed will start at quarterback
today against Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Sooner's quarterback Dylan Gabriel went through
early warmups of the Cotton Bowl earlier today, Gabriel suffering
a head injury and last Saturday's lost to TCU. But
no official word yet from Oklahoma on Gabriel's status for
the game today and the NFL. The Washington Commanders officially

(01:43:56):
activated rookie running back Brian Robinson from the non foot
ball injury list for tomorrow's game against Tennessee, less than
six weeks after he was shot twice in the leg
when he was the victim of a robbery attempt. Now,
when I heard that Robinson was being activated, my first
thought was, well, there's your NFL Comeback Player of the

(01:44:16):
Year award winner, right, But it turns out that Robinson
is not technically eligible to win Comeback Player of the
Year because he's a rookie and the criteria is based
on what happened in previous NFL seasons s m H. Anyway,
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added receiver Russell Gauge to their
injury report this morning. He is now questionable for Sunday's

(01:44:38):
game against the Falcons with a back injury. Gags leaves
the Buccaneers with twenty one receptions. Speaking of the Buccaneers
Falcons matchup, Tom Brady has just tweeted an animated video
in which he is hunting an Atlanta Falcon who is
riding in a Millennium Falcon spaceship. Wow. Tom, real funny. Alright, alright, Tom,

(01:45:05):
But even more than that. Finally, we have a Big
Ten commercial updates. You're alluding to the epic mythical commercial
featuring all the Big Ten head coaches from we found it.
We're about to play it for you. And this is
a real great time capsule that obviously features Joe Paterno,

(01:45:29):
who is better than I could have possibly dreamed in
this commercial. But also we got Jim Tressel, the Ohio
State head coach at the time. Rich Rodriguez was the
Michigan head coach at the time. Are you guys ready
to go back in time? All right, here we go.
We'd love to have you at Ohio State. You know,
we really want you at Michigan. Hey, you look good,
greener white Hellinois. Call it we love Where Where are you?

(01:45:57):
Where the um big w on the helmet and crimson
would look good on you. We've got a great program here.
You like passing, We like passing. You know about our
Buckeye leads. Right, We really think you're terrific. You know
we're the winningest program in history. We got this new
stadium coming. Well, I'm back are you. We think you're special?
We played five quarters. We're going to run the spread.

(01:46:19):
Come help us defend the rock. We're the cradle quarterbacks.
You'd look great in black and gold. You can make
a difference. You've got what it takes. Such tell me
you want to be the best. Do you like roses?
Look our helmets got wings. Come to Ohio State, Come
to Wisconsin, Indian produced Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern Minnesota, Michigan State.
Come the Pence. Isn't that the greatest thing ever? I mean,

(01:46:45):
what makes it the greatest thing ever? Is this one
thing alone? Come the Pence? Pay back to you, light
back at you, Come the Pence. Oh my god, that
was a growler right there. That was the best. Also,
that was Jim trestle, was it not. Yeah, so many

(01:47:08):
Nuggets there. Who had the new stadium. It was in Minnesota,
in Minnesota, Minnesota, they were building it back then. That's right. Yeah.
If you over at that Metro Dome, that place was
a weird place to play. Yeah, you know, it's funny.
It's the two thousand seventh season when or two thousand

(01:47:28):
five season, when Minnesota came to Penn State. That was
the first game that I started to believe that you
guys had something cooking there. Moroney and Barber. You made
mincemeat out of those two running backs. Goods. Crazy is
like how quickly things change. Think how many of some
of those schools, how many different head coaches they've had.
Think realignment. There's some teams that weren't even around in

(01:47:52):
the conference at that time. That's amazing, man, that's crazy.
Good stuff by Ilo. Okay, it is Fox Sports Radios
Countdown to Kickoff presented by bet mg Yam, let's dive
into this. Oh yeah, let's get trendy. All right, we're
looking at a couple of betting trends heading into today's action.
I'll give you a couple from the A C. C

(01:48:13):
that caught my eye. So you've got wake Forest and
they're taking on Army today. Wake Forest is four and
one against the spread. Wake Forest very good. The last
couple of weeks, played Clemson very very tough, went to overtime,
didn't get the wind, got the cover. And then last
week on the road against Florida State, Wake Forest four
and one against the spread. They're tied with Syracuse, best

(01:48:36):
a T S record in the a CC this season.
On the flip side, Boston College one and four against
the spread. That's the worst against the spread in the
a c C. And you've got Boston College. They're about
a three touchdown underdog at home against Clemson. So maybe
that holds true and they get works by twenty one

(01:48:58):
plus today, we'll see interesting trends today. Guys. Sorry, I
was falling asleep with the wheel here. I want to
go to you. I want to go to ure you're
falling asleep at the wheel because of Yeah, well it's
Kyle Whittingham. And I've actually curious richest thoughts on this
one because Kyle Whittingham's nine and three against the number

(01:49:19):
against U c l A five and oh in his
last five covering by an average margin of eighteen points
per game. And from what I hear throughout the week
from people much smarter than me that handicapped these games
is the physicality of Utah just doesn't sit well with
U c l A. And that's why this matchup has
been so one sided over the last few years. Rich,

(01:49:41):
what is it about the trenches that make this such
a bad matchup for U c l A. With the youth,
You know what it comes down to is I think
I think Utah's defensive wind, their front seven in general,
they don't get enough credit because is really what beats
them is is the over the top. I mean, if

(01:50:04):
they can limit explosive plays downfield from DTR and the
Bruins offense, then this is gonna be an absolute slug fest.
And that plays extremely well to what Kyle whitting him
always wants to do. He wants to muck up a game.
He doesn't want to win uh pretty. He wants to
win games ugly. It's a part of their d n
A with the Utah Utes. And we think Pac twelve

(01:50:26):
We're discussing this earlier in the show. We think Pack
twelve and we we always think pretty football, but it
really isn't the most successful teams Impact twelve history have
been anchored by great offensive lines and great run games
all the way back to Reggie Bush with Matt Leinard
and that whole crew that was a wrecking crew in
front of Reggie Bush and Utah. They've got a defensive

(01:50:50):
one that can stand toe to toe with any of
these Pack twelve opponents, and a and a front seven
that can make you pay if they don't get beat deep,
then this could be the exact type of game that
you want to play up front. Okay, we got a
little bit of time. Let's dive into this feature as well.

(01:51:10):
Not live yet live betting, all right. We're looking for
opportunities once these games kick off for potential in game bets. Okay, Jared,
I don't want to put you to sleep. You go ahead, buddy.
I'm just gonna take a knap here. It's been a
long show Texas, Oklahoma. I mean, you know, it's funny
because we were doing the rundown before the show, and

(01:51:31):
and and usually this game would be front and center,
but it's kind of an afterthought because of the success
of these teams. But these games have a funny way
of being just off the wall. Bananas, like absolutely bonkers.
And again, when we're talking about games that we want
to live bet, I like targeting games with higher totals

(01:51:51):
because the first touchdown isn't going to be the last
touchdown and there is still value on either side. If
you liked one pickular handicap for me, if Oklahoma with
backup quarterback City General Booty, or if it is Davis
bebel if they script something early in the game, go
down the field and score, and we're getting this Texas

(01:52:13):
line under a touchdown, I want to pounds. I already
bet Texas minus seven and a half earlier this week
once I heard that it was going to be Gabriel
on the sidelines. Now again we don't know that for
sure yet. There is some uncertainty here, but I would
be very interested in betting Texas under a touchdown. If
Oklahoma with the backup quarterback script something early get some

(01:52:37):
points on the board. There's still gonna be a lot
of action in the Red River rivalry as we go
into the second half. I'm looking at this Tennessee LSU game.
Uh yeah, you're all over this to note like this
get to me. This is one of those games where
because l s U are such slow starters. You know,
if we have I don't know what tend nothing ball game,

(01:53:00):
uh valls over Tigers at the finish of the first quarter,
and that total starts ticking down. Take the over, pound over.
Because L s U has scored at an insane rate
from the halfway through the second quarter on and especially
in the second half to come back and win in
most of the games they've played. So that's one where

(01:53:20):
you should spotlight, especially if the scoring slow to start. Yeah,
I hear you. I would look at L s U.
If they get off to a slow start, I would
take him again. Let's say same scenario, Tennessee gets up
tend nothing L s U. They've been such slow starters,
and then at home it's Death Valley. I know it's

(01:53:40):
an eleven am local time, but they've been really good.
They've been really good in that time slot against the spreads.
Like they're eight no against the spread in that time window.
So yeah, if they get off to a slow start,
which has been the trend this year, they've come back before.
And this is Tennessee's first road game in the conference,
so that that could be a big deal. Also, I

(01:54:01):
would look to jump on l s U potentially if
they get off to a slow start with the getting
trendy vibe right Uh, Tennessee nine and one um hitting
overs on point totals. You know they're on that kind
of run right now. So this offense is just cooking
and that trend. Yeah, like love it. Okay, We've got

(01:54:24):
uh rich orin Burger Penn State all American. We've got
Jared Smith who needs a nap. That's not a good
sign leading up to college foot on the number two
cup of coffee. Guys, my pen states over there like that.
I'm Brian no Uh coming up next. Man. We've given
you all these nuggets, right, all this information. It's time

(01:54:45):
to put the information to good use. We all three
will weigh in with some picks and things to look
for in today's action. It is Fox Sports Radios count
Down to Kickoff, presented by Bed MGM. Kickoffs are coming, Sue,
and we're leading you up to that. This is Fox
Sports Radios Countdown to Kickoffs presented by Bett mg I,

(01:55:11):
the kick of sports bots once again. Here's Brian no,
Rich Hornberger and Jared's s ah Yes, it is Fox
Sports Radio's Countdown the Kickoff presented by bet MGM. By
the way, a couple of thank you's here thanks to
the crew Isaac Cron doing a tremendous job. Iowa Sam

(01:55:36):
on the ones in two is Ryan bur Singer, our
trusted producer. By the way, Ryan bur Stenger believes he's
been to Disneyland over a hundred times. It's an unofficial count.
Fantastic radio voice too for thank you listen. Also top
of the hour, up on game LaVar Arrington, t j

(01:55:57):
USh Menzada, Plexico Burst. Get to already for a loaded
weekend of ball here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
let's dive into this rapid fire. Okay, our three picks
leading up to today's Actually we'll start with you, Jared,

(01:56:18):
what do you have? Circle? Here we go UM one
and two last week, starting to get back to the
mark eight and seven on the year. We need to
pick it up. We need to have a good day.
We're going to TCU first, laying six and a half here,
I would still lay seven, guys. Lawrence is a basketball
town with a football problem. Today College game Day in Town,
Kansas going for six and oh for the first time

(01:56:40):
since oh seven. I'm selling this. I don't buy it
TCUs offense is what I'm buying today. First in e
p A per rush, six in e p A per play,
they're averaging nine yards per play on first down. Max
Duggan will be the story today. Sunny Dike's very underrated coach.
He's on a fantastic job with this horn Frogs team.

(01:57:01):
After today, I think we're gonna be talking about TCU
is the best team in the Big twelve and a
chance at the college football Playoff. I'm taken nine and
a half with Middle Tennessee State. We haven't talked about
this game today. The Blue Raiders have been on this
wild ride. They beat Miami forty five thirty one a
couple of weeks ago, then they get beat by E. T.
S A. Today they go to U A B, who

(01:57:22):
isn't very explosive offense outside the top seventy five and efficiency.
And they've played a cup gig schedule Alabama A and
M Liberty, Georgia, Southern Rice, Middle Tennessee's defense top twenty
e p A per play, and good old Steady Rick
Stock still ten one and one against the number. After
a loss, Blue Raiders bounce back today they cover against

(01:57:42):
you A B and finally a shootout in the SEC.
I've been talking about it all morning. Tennessee and l
s U. Can this l s U secondary hold up?
They just let Robbie ask for throw for three thirty
seven against them last week. And I love that this
L s U offense had a closed door meeting with
the skill position guys. Jaden Day heels time to shine
over sixty four and a half between Tennessee and l

(01:58:03):
s U. All right, I love it too, and one
last week, uh six and nine on the season. Nice.
The Jayhawks and the horn Frogs have something in common,
explosive offenses, both top five in offensive efficiency, the defenses
not so much. I'm betting that trend continues today. I'm

(01:58:25):
going over the number and it's a huge one set
at six eight and a hook. Alabama favored by twenty
four hosting the Texas A and m Aggie's all. This
talk about Willie won't be concerning Bryce Young. My guess
is he'll play for the Tide Bill cruise to victory.
Even if he does in his understudy is plenty solid
as a running QB. Alabama's plan is gonna be to

(01:58:47):
run the stuffing out of the football against a bad
Aggie's rush defense. I got the Tide covering up that
minus twenty four. Nobody knows his name yet, but Boise
State has made a switch at QB tail Green now
the starter last week led the Broncos offense to thirty
five unanswered in the second half. Fresno is still missing
their starting QB J Kaner. Broncos role cover the seven

(01:59:10):
a half they're laying. Okay, I have no time because
you Penn State Ballhogs took all of it. I'm gonna
say Tennessee minus the point and a half in the
first half l s U slow starters. NC State minus
three and a half hosting Florida State. They have owned
the Seminoles in this matchup since oh five. And I'm
gonna go with the dog here. Washington State very sneaky

(01:59:32):
against the spread for and went against the spread. Give
me him plus twelve and a half against sc later
on tonight. We still have time. Let's do it, Iowa.
This is the best play of the day. Look quick, Jared.
Florida's blowing out in Missouri. Catch a tiger by the tail.
Tiger is gonna have nothing left in the tank today.

(01:59:53):
In the swamp bang good stuff. Enjoy the ball will
say it
