and coached the one and only Bucky Brooks. Hello, book,
Welcome back, what's that? What's what's up? How you doing? Man?
I'm doing grab missed you. Happy holidays to you and yours. Hey,
I appreciate it, and happy holidays to your family. Happy
(00:45):
holiday to all on listeners and stuff. Get excited about it.
I am too. I tell you. It's it starts to
snow here this morning, which is really great that. I
love the white Christmas deal, I really do. However, it's
kind of a sad note today. We've got to mention
that our guy, Chris p our X get a producer,
A guy is the technical man, the music man. This
is his last day with us. He's moving onward and upwards.
(01:06):
So we gotta give him a good one today. A
good send off to Chris p. Chrispy, I didn't know
was out. Um, you're a little bit one of our team.
You know what happens, and uh, it's kind of like
when you were playing football. A guy leaves trades, retire,
or whatever it may be. So he's on his way
and uh, bigger and better things for him. I gotta
(01:29):
I gotta go in a different direction with you for
a second, buck if account. You know, we're gonna talk
football a day long, and you know people love to
hear what's going on, who may win, who may lose.
But there was a story this week and you may
know this guy, Jerry Sullivan used to cover the Buffalo
bills for the Buffalo newspaper, The buff the we evening news,
all right, and now he writes for the Niagara Gazette.
The way he's up there in uh western New York.
(01:50):
He appeared on this train Wreck Tonight podcast the other day.
I listed up a name of Amy. She wrote into
the show. As she said, I thought the goal was
to gain views, have to turn people away. And then
Sullivan comes back on the podcast and says, get this,
women be better than this. The worst fans really are women.
They don't get critical journalism. They all want to be cheerleaders,
(02:13):
you know what I mean. It's always it's a dangerous
avenue to go down to criticize women in general because
they're better than men generally, but they don't get it
as fans. All right. Then he came back and he apologized,
but two days later he was fired from his TV
gig in Buffalo and fired from the newspaper. All right,
I get it the fact that you know, management could
(02:34):
do what they want. They could fire you, they can
tell you what to do. But I have a question.
Maybe you could help me. Kyrie Irving is playing basketball
after what he did. Deshaun Watson should be imprisoned. This creep.
He's playing football. But Jerry Sullivan's out of a job
because he said something which was his opinion on a podcast.
Help me here. I don't know where the world's going crazy. Yeah, okay,
(02:56):
so we're bringing everything together at once. I think what
we're having right now is kind of a debate between uh,
free speech being free of consequence. So in free speech,
you're free to say your opinion, voice your opinion, whatever
that opinion is, but it doesn't prevent you from being
(03:16):
free from consequences based on what you said. And so
when you mentioned Carrie Irvin, when you mentioned some of
the other people, UM, what you're seeing is, yes, everyone
wants to be able to say whatever they want to
say on any platform, but sometimes you have to be
held accountable to what you say. And in immediate business,
(03:37):
where everyone hinges on every word, some management types believe
in the bottom line over the person, and so what
might have been an innocent mistake UM sometimes has severe
consequences because once it hits the airways, wants it's hot, tweeted,
quote tweeted, and those things. It's hard to what the
(03:59):
repetence station that the person is. Quick question, though, I
mean when you were playing the game, and I'm sure
it wasn't as heavy duty social media now and then
as it is now when you're playing in college, was
there any uh lecture so to speak, by human resource
people or coaches to say be careful about social media. No.
I mean, obviously I was playing before the social media error,
(04:22):
but I think with social media and all these things.
I think what the conversation is from PR people to
players is you have to understand exactly what you're saying.
You have to pause before you hit sin on Twitter.
You need to make sure that whatever you say you're
willing to own and back up because in that moment,
everyone is going to hold you accountable for what is said,
(04:45):
and whatever comes out of your account is always going
to be a part of what you represent. So you
just want to be careful what you retweet, what you say,
things that you like on all those things are fault.
I'm sure the interview year you tell you youngsters as
well to do the same thing. Just be careful, right
(05:05):
you You tell everyone to be careful. You tell everyone
to make sure you understand what you're doing, because if
it's an account which your name tied to it, you're
going to be held accountable for whatever is retweeted, said,
liked all those things. And so it's just one of
the things where you just want to either uh own
what is you you involved in or to stay away
(05:26):
from it. There you go. Okay, last night it was
Josh Allen, who basically owned the Miami Dolphins, and I'll
tell you what I love watching that game. It was
football the way football should be played, snow on the field.
And the lunatic fans with the Buffalo mafia to Bills
mafia with throwing snowballs on the field, had of stuff
the games several times. But what a game thirty two
twenty nine. Josh Allen the star. Really he showed up
(05:49):
when it really matted most. When in the fourth quarter
he was brilliant four touchdown passes and uh really and truly, Uh,
I give it up for Miami, but Buffalo really gut
it out, if you will, and then he went for
that two point conversion. Was tremendous. Yeah, butheople got it out.
I was. It wasn't their best performance, but they found
a way to win. And that's most important in the stage. Uh.
(06:11):
Can you continue to stag win ski team to put
your team in the best position, uh to get the
top seed in the a f C. And that's where
the Buffalo Bills were able to do. I think when
you think about Josh Allen and his magical powers, it
gives them a chance to be a super Bowl team
because he has the ability to make up for all
of the flaws that the team has. Last night, what
we saw when we saw him play at an m
(06:32):
v P level. It wasn't always great, but you could
tell he was the best player on the field. And
when you have that guy on your team, it gives
you a chance to The Buffalo Bills have a chance
to win the title because Josh Allen's on the squad.
He went forty three hundred and four years and four
touchdowns freezing temperature no less. And the funny thing is,
when I was watching him play last night, the thing
(06:52):
that dawned on me to say, this guy didn't really
play for a major, major university university and y woman.
He was asked after the game about the freezing Tampa Tuesday.
I planned at Wyoming for three and a half years,
so it's not a big deal. He's used to the cold.
But I gotta ask him, you were involved in scouting
and you played the game. So how do they know
that this guy? How do they know the day of
the home run with a Josh Allen? I mean, he
(07:13):
wasn't really big in college. I mean because where he played,
but even the level of competition at Wyoming is not
the same as the big ten that packed down wherever
it Maybe, how do they know they didn't. I mean
it's a bit of a guessing game. I mean when
you're when you're scouting or whatever, what you're trying to
do is you're trying to make educated guesses on what
a player will be at the next level. When you
(07:35):
look at Josh Allen, the first thing today looked at
is does he have the prototypes like I mean the
prototypical stuff that you look for. Physically, Yes, he's like
say four or six five, he's two thirty five pounds.
He ran well, Uh, he had big time arm talent.
So then you look at did he dominate the level
of competition where he was at, and he showed flashes
(07:55):
of dominance. The numbers, Wow, he had a lot of
interest options. Um, it wasn't great. And so the debate
when he was coming out was is it a projection
over production? Meaning are you projecting that he's gonna be
great even though production says that he wasn't. I don't
think he's ever thrown over six percent or completed six
percent of his pasts. And so a lot of it
(08:18):
was again and then even when he got to Buffalo
those first couple of years, Uh, it was wayward or
sideways when it came to the touchdown the interception ratio
as a completion percentage. But then it popped. And what
Josh Allen is is a great example of using your
imagination and scouting, meaning what can a player because if
(08:39):
we put everything around him, put the right system in place,
how good could this player be? And that's what happened
with Josh Allen and Buffalo Brian Dave All at the
time put together a great system around his talents. They
surrounded him with Stefan Diggs and other weapons, and then
it just popped, really just and they used the running
(09:01):
game more so than they used the passing In the
last night, I really thought they had just great And
he ran himself. I mean he just dove in there
after that two point conversion. It was amazing what he did.
So you're right, I mean he just took everything out
of his arsenal and he went out there and just
as you say, gutted it out. Yeah. I mean that's
and that's the thing. I think the thing that we discovered.
He was a runner, and he's not normally a runner
(09:21):
like that, Like he's not normally a guy that um
doesn't mean in college, he didn't show that he was
a runner like he's been in the National Football League.
He gets the National Football that he becomes one of
the best running quarterbacks that we've seen. Big, physical, executing
quarterback powers. He's a monster down in the red zone,
has a knack for finding the end zone. That's an
uncovered talent um that we didn't know that he necessarily had.
(09:44):
But the Buffalo Bills leaned into that and they've utilized
him as their primary runner. Not that they want to,
but they've had too. And he's so good at it.
It's it's funny, Big Lass. As much as I see
and watched Josh Allen and You're a scout, our producer
Our executive producer Brandon Truffa says that he saw Josh
Allen destroyed. I assume that was San Diego State. Yes, right,
(10:07):
you said you knew he was going to be good.
You know, why did you stay so quiet at the time?
You should have done raising and really right, you know
you you jump on the band wagon after the fact
you knew back then against San Diego stity would be great.
I'm not a I'm not a scout like Bucky, so
I don't claim to uh, you know, kind of spot
these guys out. But yeah, when he was playing in
the Mountain West, he he was really good man, and
(10:29):
he's he was doing the same stuff that he was
that he's been doing him the at the at the
NFL level. I remember one throw in particular, San Diego
State was playing at Wyoming and he made one of
those throws that was it had to be like fifty
yards in the air, perfect strike into the end zone,
like rolling to his right, across his body. It was
(10:50):
just awesome. And he's just a big athletic dude. And
you know, I just I kind of like when the
Bills took him, I'm like, he's he's probably gonna be
pretty good. I feel like all these doubters, you know,
didn't really watch all of the tape. And again I'm
not a scout like Bucky, so I don't know how
to evaluate tape is as well as him. But yeah,
just based on what I saw at Santego State, he
(11:11):
he destroyed us every time he played us seven seven
yards last night, it was a head of a performance.
And you know, I'm glad to see guys thrive from
schools that I really don't have big names. I don't know,
the last great player in the national football then with
the University of Wyoming. But UH have a linebacker Logan
(11:32):
Logan Wilson is from their chat MoMA is from Wyoming,
and didn't you have uh Josh Allen and some other
guys have kind of trickled in. Uh. Andrew Wigert, who
plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars is a is a cowboy.
I think the thing that we need to talk about, like,
I think if you look at the quarterback position, I
think if you look at these starters, most of the
(11:54):
starters are not necessarily from Power fives thing there but
two guys from nondescript group of five or other schools
that are that are playing. And so it doesn't necessarily
mean that the best quarterbacks come from the biggest schools.
You really have to dig deep and look and see
what did they have, what talents? How does it fit?
(12:16):
How does it all work out? I have I have
a quick question for Bucky on on that note. Do
you think maybe it's because some of these players actually
go to school for four years rather than jump ship
after two like they kind of do with the bigger schools. Uh. Yeah,
development certainly has something to do with it. Um, you know,
going all the way back. Bill Parcels used to have
a rule when it came to quarterbacks. He wanted guys
(12:39):
who were two on two plus year starters, Guys who
are college graduates, so they had to be in school
at least four years, Guys that won over seventy percent
of games, um, and those things and so experienced matters.
And the only way you can get experience is by
playing and playing a ton and sometimes those smaller schools,
the the top rules afford you the opportunity to play
(13:02):
uh significant reps, and those reps translate to success when
you get to the National Football League. Interesting, I tell you,
it really is. And uh, you know, I got to
get the scout who signed this guy a lot of credit.
I mean, you talk about teams that draft guys and
certainly general managers around the hot seat of a guy
as a bust. But I want to see the actual
guy who went out there and went out to Laramie,
(13:23):
Wyoming and said I like this guy, I'm gonna draft
him and kind of talk the Buffalo Bill's organization to
invest that kind of money in this guy. That's the
guy I want to see because he if I'm if
I'm starting a team, I want to sign that guy
as my scout. That's what I want to do. It
takes a collective effort, you know. It's it's it's a
collaborative effort that you have all the scals. They go
(13:44):
through there and some guys um will point him out
and say, hey, this guy has a tremendus amount of talent,
but here the things where we need to work on,
and here the things that he needs to have to
help him, uh, maximize his situation. Interesting book, you're the best.
I mean when I when I come on this show,
I I do learn a lot from me. I'm reading
(14:04):
your NFL dot com on Friday as the columns are great.
So that's why I like to kind of just pry
with your mind and that it's wonderful. That really is.
He's Bucky Brooks. Get him on Twitter. You can pride
his mind on Twitter. He'll answer you. I know that
at Bucky Brooks or when Mike Harmon shows up here
and now number three it's at Swollen Dome or at
Andy Ferman episode that you can call him or me
(14:25):
or anybody else here at eight seven seven ninety and
on Fox eight seven, seven sixty nine. We do have
Bucking remembers in this hour, our number two bottom barrel betting,
and Bucky remembers there as well. And we've got uh,
we got Buckey's best. So we got so much today
because Buckey Brooks is back. Now, could this NFL team
be a lesser version of last year's Well, we're gonna
(14:46):
explain that next. Hey, what's up everybody? It's me three
time pro Bowltle Warrington and I couldn't be more excited
to announce a podcast called Up on Game? What is

bowler t J. Hudgman's otta and Super Bowl champion. That's right,

(15:51):

and many from it. By the way, football fans be

and Sunday morning, three hours before kickoff. That's right. Tune
on Sunday morning at ten a m. Eastern as we
take you live all the way to kick off a
Fox Put's radio on the Heart Radio Web, presented by
(16:11):
Bett MGM. Al Right, buck, we gotta go back in
time and talk about that meltdown that the Indianapolis Colts
at against the Vikings. And uh, some questions right now
to Jeff Saturday, because he wanted to go for field
goals on fourth and goal from the Minnesota eight, fourth
and fourth from the Minnesota ten, and on fourth and
three from the Minnesota nine, and he blew the biggest
(16:33):
lead in the NFL history thirty three zip. Have you
ever played on a team like that? I can't say
that I played for a team like that that's lost
the lead like that. But those things happen and rewatching
the game. You know. Um, when you lose a lead
like that, you have to contribute to the loss. I mean,
(16:54):
the Indianapolis Colts had to do some things that gave
the Minnesota Vikings opportunities. So you're thinking about the turnovers,
You think about the field opportunities on fourth and short. Uh,
you think about just the misplays, dropped passes, the little
stuff that changed the momentum of the game. Uh. Jeff Saturday,
(17:14):
who was a friend of mine, like he he probably
can sleep last night just thinking about how they gave
away a game that was under their control. But when
you're up thirty three nothing, it's hard to go keep
their foot on the gas. It's hard to keep the
energy and the focus level up. And then being on
the road and looking out the environment change with the
(17:35):
momentum flipped. You needed someone to step up and make
a play. And in that moment, that is where you
needed Matt Ryan to be the steady and coming influence
on the team. And unfortunately he doesn't have the skills
at this time to be able to make the throw,
make the play to put the game on ice. That's
(17:56):
what I saw. Also, a team that was coming undone
and need it one of their best players needing their
quarterback to make a play to settle them in and
and he couldn't make the play. You're right, and it's
surprisingly this. Entering the game yesterday, the Indianapolis coach had
the second worst scoring offense in the league. So to
put up thirty three big ones in the first half
was a shocker. And I'm thinking, like, wow, I can
(18:18):
turn the game off right now, it's over. I mean
like in most instances you would say it's over. In
most instances you would think that thirty three to nothing
a halftime, it should be a done deal. Because even
if your approached like this, Andy, hey, we're going to
get the ball, and every time we get the ball,
as the indianappters coals, we're gonna take the play, cluck
down to one second. So with the forty second play
(18:41):
cluck in essence, even on the three and out, you're
eating up almost three minutes if you just run the ball.
And uh, they just made mistakes, they didn't execute, They
didn't make enough plays to put it to put it away,
and so it's it's really disappointing for Jeff Saturday's disappointing
for the organization because then you were egging to face
(19:02):
And for the Minnesota Vikings who have won but not
atten one score games in this fashion, it only increases
their level of confidence and resilience because they feel like
they're never out of a game. Even though I think
you and I can debate on how good that team
really is, well, I will tell you this much, I
don't know how good they used. I think that you
(19:23):
could flip that team from week to week. Was that
Kirk Cousins, He's very to me unreliable and not consistent.
But for me to watch that game and watch a
bunch of professional ball players not quit or throw the
towel in that gave me a lot of confidence to
Ko Kevin O'Connell the coach, like he had something going
on a great rapport with these guys that they didn't quit.
I mean, most teams on any level at thirty three
(19:45):
nothing at a halftime in football would quit. They did
not quit. I love that. Yeah, most teams would quit,
Most teams would shut it down. In that instance, the
fact that they kept fighting, they kept um hanging in there. Yeah,
that is a testament to Kevin o'conn on their belief
in him, his belief in them, his ability to kind
of get them to change their attitude and behaviors in execution,
(20:06):
that's what they were able to do in the second half.
And then when they got Roland. I would give Kevin
O'Connor credit. He kept his foot on the gas. He
found the way to get people involved. kJ Osborne had
a monster game, justin Jefferson continues to prove that he
is the number one um pass catcher in the game.
And then what you also had is you had Adam
ten and make plays when they needed to be made.
(20:28):
So great win by the Minnesota Vikings. I don't know
where you go if you're the Indianapolis colst right now.
It's just a tough loss, real tough, real tough. So
that game was great as far as the comeback situation.
The Dolphin Buffalo game was great. But this Brown's Ravens game,
to me, that was a junker. It really was. I mean,
the Browns win thirteenth to three, but basically it's almost
(20:50):
the the story has to be the Ravens lost that
the Browns didn't really play that well, but the Ravens
just had too many missed opportunities they lost the game.
I mean, this these old thing in football where it
say more games are lost than one, and if you
can avoid the mistakes that lead to losses, you can
win games. Turnovers, penalties, big plays allowed, and those things.
(21:11):
I would say, looking at the Browns, it's kind of
how we expected the Browns to play coming into it.
Deshaun Watson um first time he's played in front of
home crowd, solid performers for him, running game, Nick Chubb,
all run the football, and they were able to kind
of play like an old school style, but you still
(21:31):
have a quarterback in place. To me, I think what
Kevin Stefanski is doing is you want to take these
next four games and you want to build for the future.
You want to find a playing style that works for
the talent that you have, and you want to begin
to build some confidence that the way that we play
is going to be a way that we can win
a championship, is going to lead us down the championship path.
(21:52):
And they play that way, and the defense stepped up
and played and so I think if anything, he gives
a lot of confidence to be gamed from the well.
The biggest shock in that game with Justin Tucker missing
a forty eight dr field goal and another one blocked unbelievable. Really, look,
you don't expect those things from Justin Tucker when when
Justin Tucker's run onto the field, it we saw being
(22:13):
spill woard. That is automatic three points. So you just
don't see that. You don't see that. Amazing And I
just hope you know the Stefansky situation, I thought he
was on the hot seat for a while. That game
yesterday may have cooled it down to drop because I
think that with the Deshaun Watson situation, you gotta say, look,
we're starting new this is it. He's a quarterback of
(22:35):
the future and he's only played two three games right now,
Let's keep Stefanski and don't want to start changing coaching
staffs and let's move forward from here. Yeah, I think
there's something to that. There's there's something too. He needed
to have a solid performance because all the questions were
around his play call in hand. Is he a play caller? It?
Does he really understand how to build a team, meaning
(22:55):
can he take the talents of the team, put a
scheme that elevates those players based on how they play.
Does he put him in a situation where they can
do what they do really really well? And there I mean, look,
it should have been a concern, but against the Ravens,
he showed that he had the ability to stick to
the grip. He had a plan that would elevate the
(23:17):
players that he has nay, has continued to build upon
that plan. Here we go, He's Bucky Brooks. I'm and Defermant.
By the way, this is Fox Football Sudden on Fox
Blitz ready, and Bucky says that this NFL coach deserves
to stay in the big chair. We'll tell you all
about the next but first and Nick Coop with all
the latest. All right, good morning guys. By the way,
you're talking about Justin Tucker are missing a couple of
(23:38):
field goals. It's the first time he's done that in
a game since ten. Frustration for him. We're seeing, uh,
some of the highlights on our monitors here in studio
throwing his helmet in frustration. Ravens still towards the top
of the a f C North in those games as well.
On Saturday, you mentioned Kevin O'Connell and the team believing
(24:01):
in him. Well, he's got a lot of belief at
his quarterback, Kirk Cousins, and he gives him a ton
of credit for their comeback. Kirk deserves a huge amount
of credit for, like I said, willing our team. Regardless
of the plays that are called. That guy just keeps
playing at a high level. Um, and he was a
huge part of us winning this game. Not as big
of a comeback for the Bills against the Dolphins, but
it was a comeback in the fourth quarter for Buffalo
(24:21):
to win that one thirty two nine snowy, cold night
in Western New York. Miami's now dropped three in a
row as well, and for Buffalo. What did johnsh Allen
think of all those snowballs from the fans? Yeah, a
little wild, you know, don't necessarily condone the snowball throw,
and especially if it could cost our team. I love
love that fans are having fun. Though, Um, who won
(24:43):
the game, so uh, not too mad about it now.
All right, let's look ahead to Sunday's games and figure
out who's it and who's out. According to reports, Chiefs
receivers Kid Areas Tuning and McCole Hardman on track to play.
Cardinals receiver Hollywood Brown expected to play to spine into illness.
Jet's defensive tackle Quitted Williams will be game time decision.
Raiders running back johsh Jacobs on track to play against
(25:04):
the Patriots at for New England, Jacobe Myers expected to
play the wide receiver, and running back Romondre Stevenson will
go through pregame warm ups before they determine if he
can play. A report this morning from ESPN says that
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to recover from his
torn a c L in six to eight months. That
would put him on track to start next season on time.
(25:28):
In college football late action at the Frisco Bowl, Boise
State outlasted North Texas thirty two. He also had b
y U hanging on against SMU three in the New
Mexico Bowl. Late college basketball. Number nine Arizona now ten
and one following a seventy five seventy home win against
number six Tennessee. In late NBA action, the Sun's got
(25:49):
a big game from Devon Booker fifty eight points as
they overcame a twenty four point deficit to beat the
Pelicans one eighteen to one fourteen. Andy, Bucky back to
you guys. Thank you seeing and Nicky there we go. Okay,
why is this team so good? Well, that's right around
the corner. It's about thirty three minutes past the hour.
He's Bucky Brooks and I'm Andy Ferman. And by the way,
we're live from the tiraq dot com studios. Now I
(26:11):
mentioned in the last segment and get to it say
that it's opening day for one NFL quarterback and that's
Desmond Ridder because the Falcons are playing the Saints. There's
been Ridder from the university since and he makes his
first career start today. And I gotta get Bucky Brooks
credit because he said way back when, why are the
Saints still sticking with Andy Dalton? They gotta get a
jolt in that offense. Andy Dalton, I looked this up,
(26:32):
is averaging thirteen point two points a game offensively since
the thirty one of October. They scored twenty seven of
their sixties six points in just one game, and they're
still sticking with Andy Dalton a quarterback. I can't understand it.
I don't understand it. It's a team that I thought
I had Super Bowl potential, and they just they're just fallen.
(26:55):
And Dennis Allen and the career knew would be a
transition with him taking over, but they're one of the
biggest disappointments. And the Andy Dalton thing, to me, is
just one of the many things that I worry about
when I evaluate this team. Andy Dalton, like the last
two stops Chicago and Dallas, he was fine, but he
(27:17):
wasn't a great playmaker. I mean he was he he
was okay, And so I'm looking at his numbers. He's fine.
He's sixties seven percent of his passes. I was only
seven interceptions to pass, rating his ninety six, which is
credible and respectable. I just I don't know. I just
think that you you want more at the position, and
I don't think he's given you enough to necessarily justify saying,
(27:40):
hey man, this is my starting quarterback and it's unconditional
no matter what. He stays for a four and nine
team that could win the NFC South. I'm just surprised.
But I look at Andy Dalton, I've seen him playing Cincinnati.
I think he's a good mechanical quarterback. What I mean
by that he won't make many mistakes, but he's not
gonna take many risk and he doesn't do much. He
(28:01):
doesn't do anything really great, but he does everything fairly good.
So he's mechanically okay, sound, but he's not going to
really take you to the next level and he's not
a quarterback that the team is going to rely on
to be there ace guide to take them to the
promised land. I agree with you, there's nothing. There's nothing
(28:21):
that he does that's great. Yeah, he's fine, but I
feel like you always want more when he when he
is in the situation. And so look, they are where
they are therefore and on they made those decisions. I'm
just not blown away by the fact by what he's
been able to do. I'm with you right there. But
(28:43):
you know what, I'd like to see Desmond Riddter do
something for the Falcons today, and I think he may
very well do that, and I think they may be
able to overtake those things. Yeah, like Desmond desm't Ritter
is interesting, right. The whole situation is is kind of
weird because Marcus Mariota kind of checked out, Like um,
their different reports in terms of him leaving the team.
Did he leave the team for fraternity situation where he
(29:06):
just had a kid, or did he leave the team
because he's disgruntled because he's been betched. Regardless of the
young guy from Cincinnati gets an opportunity to take over
and we get a chance to see what this offense
looks like under his direction. One thing that we know
about the Atlanta Falcons they can run for football. And
as long as you can run the football, you can
(29:26):
leave some of the pressure on the quarterback. And now
it's on Desmond Rider just to make a handful of
plays to get the team over the top. And so
we'll see if the young guys ready. All right, I
said coming into this segment that you said that this
coach deserves to stay in the big chair. You wrote
about that at NFL dot Com. I talked about the
Stealers Panthers game. You're talking about their interim coach, Steve Wilkes. Uh,
they've won three of the last four the Panthers have
(29:49):
and you say he deserves to stay there. Uh, you
know what, you may have a case. I mean, let's
look at it. This seems terrible in the Matt Rule,
and I like Matt Rule. I thought Matt Rule was
going to do a good job based on how he
had done everything at Temple and in Baylor didn't work
in the National Football League. Steve Wilkes comes over and
is elevated to the head job immediately. What he does
(30:12):
is he revamps the culture. Okay, he had been there
under Ron Rivera. Ron Rivera has success with the defensive
uh led team that ran the football. See, Wilkes has
a different personnel than Ron Riveria, but he saw what
works and he's defense. The young guys that are playing
on defense, to Brian Burns, to Derrick Brown's, to j. C. Horns,
Jeremy Chen's and others playing at a high level, they
(30:35):
bought into the fact that the defense needs to carry
them offensively. Even though this team got rid of Christian McCaffrey,
they're running the ball down people's throats. And so when
I look at the Panthers now there's a very clear
identity for how this team plays. And look, no matter
what happens, they stick to the script, they stick to
(30:55):
the plan. They won three out of that last four.
They went on the road and knocked off to Seattle Seahawks,
and they are well positioned to swipe the NFC South
if it happens. He has to be the coach because
he's taking the same piece as lesser lesser pieces and
got more production out of them than Matt Rule. I
don't know how David Tepper can go outside of and
(31:17):
look at others and say, oh, someone is more qualified
to do the job that Steve Books is doing in
front of his eyes right now, You're exactly right that
the Panthers are control of their play of faith. They
can win their final four games, they win the NFC South,
and look what they have. They got Pittsburgh today. That's
a winnable game and they will win that game. Detroit's
a winnable game. At Tampa Bay of obviously that's a
winnable game. And they ended up at New Orleans again,
(31:40):
that's a winnable game, very winnable. So then they gotta
just go winning. They gotta go find a way to
get these things done. This is a team that is
playing well. As the team is playing with a lot
of confidence. They got Sam Donald uh back up the center,
and Sam Donald is playing okay because they're not asking
them to do a lot And as long as they
continue to do those things, they will have a chance
(32:01):
to be very successful. There we go. It got the
Eagles Bears today and I said, coming in here, why
is this team so good? Obviously the Eagles is gonna
win this game. They got twelve games that they want,
twelve out of third team, and I gotta I kind
of examined that why is this team so good? What
happened to him? Well's their weapons? They'll have a thousand
yard rusher and Miles Sanders, a thousand yard receiver and
a J. Brown. They got many options for Jalen Hurts.
(32:22):
WU now is in the conversation for m v P
Davante Smith. They got the best offensive line in the league.
So why aren't they good? They are good? They're They're
a great team, and they should be the super Bowl favorite,
super Bowl favorite. Well, you like the forty niners. I
know that super Bowl favorite. That's what That's what we're saying.
You know, I think they made me right now? Yes, well,
(32:45):
I'm gonna defend Jalen Hurts begin the first quarterback to
rush for double digit touchdowns and rushing and consecutive years.
Last week, Sanders rest for his tenth touchdown of the
year list week, the first Philadelphia running back to hit
double digits in eleven years. The former one is Lashawn McCoy.
I mean, come on, did this Eagles defense their office?
They got everything going old gears of functioning. Well, I
(33:07):
would say this. I like the way the team is going.
I like the way the team is string and I
like some of the things that they've been doing. Um.
This team is is super solid and in terms of
how they run, how balanced they are on offense. I
think Jalen Hurst has taken um in terms of the
(33:29):
way that he's throwing the ball on the pressure. Because
the way that you defense the Philadelphia Eagles, you want
to say, hey, let's come in, let's make him make plays.
Let's make Jalen Hursts beat us. And he's shown this
year he can do it, so I'll give him a
ton of credit. The one thing that I worry about
is when they get into the playoffs scenario and if
(33:49):
they do square off against the San Francisco forty NA.
The Eagles running game has been susceptible, has been vulnerable.
You have to remember they had to go and get
in Dominican Sue and then Bill Josephs kind of short
up because they have some injuries at the point of
attack right, How were they going to handle a team
is willing to hit them right in the mouth? Flight
to San Francisco forty nine. Those are my concerns about
(34:10):
the team. But you do like the Eagles tay over
the Bears. No, I do like that. I do like that. Now.
I like their I like their maturity. There we go,
Bucky Brooks, Andy Ferman, Fox Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio.
It's now time to go backwards. Yes we are why
it's Bucky remembers, and it's all yours next, Bucky remembers,
coming right up right around the bed. It's about twelve
(34:31):
minutes now before the top of the hour, and this
is Fox Football Sunday. He is Bucky Brooks on Andy Ferman,
Well live from the tire rack dot Com studios, and
it's that time. It's that time, Bucky remembers. Let's do it. Yes,
it's that time. Bucky Brooks remembers that. Tell you what,
It's bowl season on the college front, and think that
to your college playing days for the Big Blue Wood
North Carolina. Was there ever a player, Buck who wanted
(34:53):
to sit out a game or a bowl game? Because
that's commonplace right now? No, we had. The the closest
thing that I would say that we had is Natron.
Means his final game was at the Peach Ball and
I need to peach Ball, and he was everything and
he was gonna go for the draft. But even then
Natry and elected to participate. It was unheard of for
(35:14):
a player to opt out. And in fact, the first
guy that I ever really remember doing I remember um
was the Leonard for Nette, and then after him it
was Christie mccaffre. You know, those are the two that
that kind of did it. And after that, and after
those guys were drafted high, you didn't hear anything else
about it. So it's become a non factor. I think evaluators,
(35:35):
NFL scouts selfishly only care about the pro ranks. And
so unless you leave your team, abandon your uh college
football playoff game, a national championship game or something like that,
it doesn't work against you because people understand this is
business and you were making a business decision at that point.
(35:55):
All right, now, let's talk about after the bullseason, after
the regular season, how the lead your players getting ready
for the NFL. How do you decide on an agent
that's hard man like I wish I could give people
really good advice about that as a combination of finding
someone that's dependable, trustworthy, that kind of fits where you are,
(36:16):
Meaning you have to know, am I a top pick
or am I someone that's mid level? You need someone
that is really good at working where you're at. Uh.
The other thing that you need is someone who you
can trust, like legitimately trust that they're going to make
decisions based on what's good for you, what may not
be in the best interest for them, but what is
(36:38):
good for the client. UM. And the only no until
you in one of those bad situations and so you're
dealing with an injury, until you're dealing with the context wabble,
that is the only time that you really learned how
good it is. And it doesn't matter who's on this
client list, it doesn't matter who he's had before. UM,
you just don't know. So there's a lot of feel
(37:00):
and research that goes into it, but you never really
know until you need them. Okay, now to the ages,
are they permitted on campus to kind of talk to
you and meet with you that I call you right
you or do you have to reach out to them?
They normally started calling and seeing that Now it's different
because with n I L than with some of the
guys who are representing people with n IL deals, it
puts you one step closer to being able to represent
(37:22):
them full time. And so the lines are a little
blurry now. But before it was you couldn't talk to him,
you couldn't have contact with him. If if you did
have contact with him, it was kind of don't tell anybody.
But but now it's kind of wide open, kind of
do whatever it is you want, all right. Last week,
(37:42):
I'm watching the forty nine is play and they're playing
Tampa Bay and UH, and I see a Tampa Bay
Gats really butchered last week. But after the game, UH,
an opposing player on the winning team that goes over
as his jersey to be signed by Tom Brady. Would
you ever do that? Have you ever gone to an
opposing player to sign your jersey for you after a loss?
(38:06):
It's a different time now, I would say, in my day, no,
I can. I can tell you a story of uh
Al Davis. When I was working Mr Davis with the Raiders.
I had just come over from Kansas City maybe four
or five weeks ago. My closest friend on the Kansas
City Chiefs was an all pro quarnerback James Hasty. He
was like a mentor to me. He meant a lot
(38:26):
to me. And so when you go out and you're
running and doing your stuff to warm up, this is
kind of pre warm up stuff. So I'm just hit
my pants. Um, don't even have my shoulder paths or
whatever on. And so James Hasty and I are kind
of in the corner of the end zone working out together.
Even sees me down on the other end frett nizing
(38:46):
with a player from the opposing team, and only the
way that he can. He whistles at me and points
to me to move and get away. So I would
tell you, in my day, there's no fratnization. There's no
exchange in jerseys. There was no uh hugging and kissing
and all that after the game. It was very personal
(39:09):
those games. And so it's just a different time now.
These guys now grow up on seven seven teams and
they play together, and so they used to talk, and
so it's hard to imagine that those guys are gonna
give that up. You know, it's funny you say that,
because I'll go to baseball games and I'll see these
guys frattened eyes are behind the batting cage and said,
wait a minute, these guys, these did the enemy. I mean,
(39:29):
if you want to frattened eize, go out to dinner
doing after the game, But before the game, it should
be a war. Maybe I'm stupid, maybe it's it's a
fans mentality, but you know, when I saw that guy
getting his jersey sign if they're getting come on, please
at least don't put it on TV camera, do it
going on the bus. Do it somewhere where I can't
see it. That's it turned me off big time, It
(39:50):
really did. It's it's a different time. It is a
real different time, and AU basketball in those things has
changed a lot. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows
at Fox Sports Radio dot com and within the I
Heart Radio app search f s R to listen live.
All right, Tom Brady will return to the NFL next season.
(40:12):
How do we know? Bucky Brooks will tell you in
just about a minute. I am Andy Fermant, He's Bucky Brooks,
and we are Fox Football Sunday, and we're broadcasting live
from the ti Iraq Dot com Studios ti iraq dot com,
we'll help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended
installers ti iraq dot com the way tire buying should be.
(40:34):
All right, Buck, once again, it's our less less visit
with Crisp. He's taken off after today. A loyal soldier
as he was technical producer year of music guys, so
we wish him well. God speed to chris P god
one of the best. Yes he is on winning up.
But all right now, as you know, I am a
(40:56):
loyal follower and reader of your weekly column NFL dot
com on Friday's and you not only wrote that Tom
Brady returns to the NFL and you picked a team
that will be playing for tell me more, Bucky Brooks.
So and thinking about Tom Brady, we we heard like
the little blurb on the commercial break, but they talk
(41:16):
about Tom Brady wanted to play and he'll go out
like dam Arena some of the other guys. Uh, they're
handful of situations that I think would offer Tom Brady
an opportunity to continue to play. And so one of
the first situations, um, I think the new England Patriots
bringing Tom back home. I think there's been enough time
between the time that Tom departed for Bill Belichick and
(41:38):
the Patriots to realize what they missed when Tom Brady
walked out the door. And so Bill Belichick looking at
the team and knowing that if Tom Brady comes in,
he stabilizes the quarterback situation. He probably helps the team
go to another level because the defense is good enough
to be a playoff contended, but they haven't got enough
from the offense. And what we have seen in the past,
as Tom Brady has been able to take anybody and
(42:00):
everybody and I allow it to play successful in New England.
And so I think that Amil would be great. I
think he can help Matt Patricia and Joe Jets figure
out what to do offensively. And I think he would
give the rest of the team that security blanket that
they missed. So that's one situation. What do you think
about New England? Well, I think that right now they'd
have to stick their tail between their legs saying, yeah,
(42:22):
we made a mistake, we let him go. Will Bill
Belichick return? I mean, is there enough time because there
was talk about this, uh, a little oil and water situation.
It couldn't mix. It was a problem there. I don't
think there was, but I think the media made a
bigger deal than it was. But I guess that he
would welcome with open arms if that happened. But I
kind of thought that maybe the eleven year association with
(42:43):
the Raiders coach Josh McDaniels, who McDaniels was offensive coordinated
with the Patriots the Raiders might be a situation. So
I like the Raiders situation. And this is why, because
the connection between Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady, he played
on him. He know him, they know each other, They
can finish each other. Said, this is they know exactly
what they're getting. You think about Joshua did him talk about?
(43:05):
Is this team has to learn how to win. What
Tom Brady knows how to win. He knows how to
win in the fashion in which Josh McDaniels want to win.
So you talk about another messenger that can spread the
message to the masses in the locker room to play
the right way, avoid the little things that have been
really undermining their opportunities to win this year. Then you
look at the supporting cast. He has a number one
(43:26):
receiver Davante Adams. He has two other complimentary playmakers and
Hunter Renfro, Darren Waller, big running game and Josh Jacobs
if they resign them. Uh, they're good enough to be
able to do things on offense to make life easy
for Tom Brady. So to me, that certainly makes a
lot of sense. Well, I mean, obviously the bottom line
is this that you say he's gonna come back next year.
I think his competitive nature will drive him to come
(43:48):
back next year. And certainly I don't think he wants
to go out and how there's legacy, remember, but there's
bad Tampa Bay team that he's been playing for this year. Now.
Nobody wants to go out like a sucker. And so
right now he looked um like a sucker dug going
out like they're not playing well in Tampa Bay. And
I just think he looks at this team is just
like what have I gotten into? And so this would
(44:11):
be a great opportunity for him to get out of
that situation, to be able to um find a way
to kind of leave on his own terms. And he
may not walk off into the sunset as a champion,
but he certainly could play at a high level, and
I think people remember him finally anyway, but they remember
him finally the way he departed. Last but not least.
What about the forty nine is is a possibility although
(44:32):
they seemed to be rolling along and none of what
quite a bad place for them. I think they may
want to rock with Brock. But if they don't want
to go with Brock Purdy anymore, I think Tom Brady
would be another good option. To think about Tom Brady.
The only part that I worry about it is his
lack of mobility, and the lack of mobility in the
bootleg passing game that we've seen the nine is utilized.
It would eliminate that part of the playbook. That's it.
(44:55):
We have seen colch InHand worked with Matt Ryan, turned
Matt Ryan into an m v P candidate, And so
when you think about Tom Brad, is that system It
sure certainly would work out. It also would be the
prodigal son returning home. He comes back to the Bay Area,
he runs out the tunnel wearing his childhood Teams colors.
There's a lot of stuff to like about that if
(45:17):
you're Tom Brady, and there may even be more stuff
to like in San Francisco forty nine is because you
get him Tom Brady in the fold, you have all
the pieces around it. I mean, that's the only thing
that would in theory keep you from winning Super Bowl.
Quarterback play, Yeah, you're exactly right. And speaking of quarterback play,
let's talk about the Chiefs playing at the Texans today.
And I'll tell you this much Patrick will Holmes last
(45:39):
week and I know the Chiefs beat up on Denver
twenty eight. Did not have a great game here. They won,
But I tell you the thing, I guess the glue
that keeps this team together is there tight end Travis
Kelsey had severally one receiving yards last week against Denver.
Gives him ten thousand, forty five for his career. Only
four other tight ends have surpassed and thousand, Antonio Gates,
(46:02):
Tony Gonzalez, Shannon show Up and Jason Witten. Kelsey is
there is the system I guess that's made him so successful.
Hell of a player. I know that he's destined for Canton, Ohio.
There's no doubt in my mind. Oh absolutely, I mean
here go down is one of the best ever. You know,
it'd be amazing when we talk about this era of football.
Years from now, we're talking about seeing the great tight ends,
(46:24):
you know, because Travis Kelsey's career will have overlapped with
like the things with Ron Grigdkowski, then we saw Tony
Gonzalez all those other guys that have played well and
kind of revolutionized the position. The thing about Travis Kelsey
is just the consistency, the high level of consistency when
it comes to the production that he has had as
a pass catcher five six straight thousand yards seasons, being
(46:46):
able to do it as what I call a jumbo
wide receiver. He changed the game the way he catches
the ball, the way he runs up to the cast,
some of the other stuff that he's been able to do.
People remember him now. He won't be remembered in the
same light as Rob Gronkowski because Rob Gronkowski just like
a physical freak. But Travis Kelsey's uh production and his
impact to create problems as a mismatch option certainly will
(47:09):
kind of linger. People will talk about him for years
and years. Okay, here's the question I have. There's no
doubt in my mind that the Chiefs are gonna roll
over the Texas today. You know, I'd be very shocked
of that. If they didn't, I think the Texas just
under the offensive firepower to keep up with the Chiefs.
But my question is to go back to Travis Kelsey. Yes,
you're right, he's reached a thousand yards for the seventh
consecutive year, receiving this year because of last week what
(47:30):
he did against Denver. But would he have been that
successful if, like say, he played for Seattle or he
played for Denver? Is that the system? Is that the
coaching what makes Travis Kelsey so great? Why is he
such an outstanding tight end? Again? Is it the system
that he's in, the players surrounding him, Patrick Mahomes, or
he would have been that good anywhere. I think it's
(47:52):
a combination, this combination of where he is and who
he plays on. Andy Reid does a great job of
diagram and plays with Travis else Um. He also his benefit,
but he was he was getting loose with Alex Smith.
He's a great player. I think it's a combination for everybody.
It takes a little bit of the system in the
(48:13):
environment to help you play at your best, and so
some of the schemes and tactics that the Kansas City
Chiefs have used have certainly helped him. He's a great player,
but I can't say that he would have put up
these kinds of numbers elsewhere. It's always the combination of
quarterback and system to help those guys on the perimeters succeed.
You know. It's funny because I look at the guy
like Andy Reid and when they kind of bounced him
(48:33):
out of Philadelphia, had like a second life come into
Kansas City, and I think you talk about, you know,
would the would the Patriots take uh Tom Brady back?
You know, and certainly he would. You know, when Philadelphia
threw him to the curb, you know, they put welcomed
him back with open arms. What he did. This guy
has got to be a masterminded as a coach. And honestly,
I never thought coaching made that much of a difference,
(48:56):
but it but it does, And certainly personnel is a key.
But I think that you look at what happened to
Philadelphia after he left, and look what happened to Kansas
City when he got there. He's a great coach. Haven't
played for coach Reid? Um I never thought that he
would be as great as he was as a head coach,
and I would say, in my own naivete he had
(49:17):
never been an offensive coordinator, and so I was under
assumption that you have to take, you know, the proper
steps to be a head coach man. You go from
position coach to coordinator to the head coach. When I
was in Green Bay, he was the Titans coach first,
and then he became the quarterback coach. He gets the
Philadelphia job, whatever calling to play in the National Football League.
He goes to Philadelphia. He puts together a quarterback friendly
(49:39):
system that helped every quarterback play at a high level.
You saw Donovan McNabb, we saw Michael Vick, but we
saw other guys play well up under him. We saw
Corey Deptmer. I want to say, even Jeff Garcia came
through there for a little bit and played well. Kevin
Cole that all those guys played well. He then goes
to Kansas City, and the big thing is when he
did the reclamation project with Alex Smith. Alex Smith was
(50:02):
beginning to in you're in San Francisco under Jim Harbor,
but he took him to another level in Kansas City.
And so when you have that level of acumen when
it comes to elevating the quarterback while doing some of
the bills and whistle stuff right, the creativity and doing
it and really doing without marquee pass catchers on the outside.
(50:22):
That is where Andy Reid has been able to really
separate himself from others. He'll go down as one of
the greatest coaches in NFL history. He'll go down is
uh one of the best offensive minds that we've seen
in the modern era, and he deserves all the kudos
UH that he can get because he's been terrific. You know,
the funny thing is, I'm gonna back up a drop.
When you said that Alex Smith situation, I think people
(50:44):
were shocked that Alex Smith had a decent run in
Kansas City. They draft the guy Patrick Mahomes from Texas
Tech had a losing record of Texas Tech, and people
scratching the heads, what are you doing? Why are you
getting rid of Alex Smith? And who is this guy
Patrick Mahomes. It's amazing, really what happened. It is amazing.
That amazes me is what he was able to see
(51:06):
with Pat Mahomes. People now think that, uh, Patrick Mahomes
was a sure thing when he was coming out of
Texas Tech, but when he was coming out and talking
to scouts, people said, I've never seen a sandlot quarterback
half success in the National Football League. When you watch
Pat Mahomes in Texas Tech, he was a wild cowboy.
He was throwing up the ball all over the yard.
(51:28):
He he made some egregious errors when it came to mistakes,
and he was a consummate gun slinker. You never really
had seen that translate to success, particularly when you mentioned
his losing record or the record that he had to
Texas Tech. Andy Reid took him rid shirt in a
four year found a way to kind of smooth out
the rough patches in his game. And Patrick Mahomes has
played like a Hall of Famer from day one. And
(51:50):
so that is not only Pat mahomes talent, that is
Andy Reid's coaching. And so, yeah, Pat Mahomes will be
a shining example for why Andy Reid should be a
first Babbahall of Famer while he would go down as
one of the best that we've ever One quick question
about Andy read if I may, I mean, you've known
him and you're up close and personal. What's his coaching style.
(52:12):
I don't look at him as a yellow or a screamer,
you know. To me, he reminds me of a little
bit of the old Marv Lea they kind of coach.
I think that would be an an accurate description. Now.
I think he can heat you up if he needs to.
I think he has maybe now probably that grandfatherly disposition
where he can talk to you like a man and
(52:32):
and say here's what we need to do, very matter
of factly. But I wouldn't mistake his kindness for weakness. Uh.
He can. He can explode when he needs to. I
think he saves those things though. Um, he has a team,
and he's creating an environment, a culture where everyone knows
exactly what he's expected of them. I think he can
coach hard while still being respectful and still having great
(52:56):
relationships with his players. But make no mistake, he eat
the hands a lot of his team. But he um,
I would say, in the first class manner. And he
doesn't really promote himself of others do. I mean, he's
kind of like in the background. He's not a boisterous
kind of guy. You know, really, it's hard to you
to get postgame quotes from the guy. You know, He's
(53:17):
just does his job and and that's it. You know.
I was shocked to see he was doing a commercial
on TV, uh you know, for that insurance company. He's
sitting over there and then painting mustaches on the players.
But still at all I was shocked that he did
that because he's not that kind of guy. He doesn't
like the limelight. I don't think. No, he's funny though.
Um he does pick and choose when he does his stuff,
(53:40):
but he's funny. Man. You won't believe this. I know
we've done already story time with Bucky Rhotes, but um,
you and not believe that this dude was an a
plus racquetball player back in the day. Really, Andy Reid
used to whoop people and racquetball when I was playing
with the Green Bay Packers. But he's been as he
is now. I'm he he always has been. In the
(54:02):
heavyweod he was a middleweight or a flyweight back in
the day. He was always he always qualified in the heavyweights.
But what he was was a great racquetball player. So
in Lambo Stadium, we used to have a basketball court
and in a racquetball court on the side. And I
can't tell you how many people I've seen Andy Reid
whoop and racquetball and his big thing. If you can
(54:24):
imagine Andy Reid at his heavyweight stature standing in the
middle of the racquetball court and just working the corners.
If you know anything about racquetball, he probably have moved.
He just stood in the middle. He stood in the
middle and you had to run around him, and he
would wear you out going corner to the corner. And
so when you're looking at the game today and you
see the Grandfather, the the Santa Claus and the red jacket,
(54:49):
just know that that guy is an a level racquetball player.
And I don't want stuff butther that. But he took
a lot of money from a lot of players playing racketball.
Man players and coaches. There's coaches. He wore them out. Great,
that's great. He's Buckey Brooks. Get him on Twitter at
Bucky Brooks. Hey, Mike Harmon joins us an hour three
(55:09):
at the top of the hour. Get him at Swollen
Dome at Indy fermin fs are by the way, we
got botten barrel betting in this our Buckey's best, our
number three one NFL quarterback is moving up the success ladder.
We'll tell you all about it next. All right, look
which team is making noise in December? No less, We'll
get to that in just about a minute. He's Bucky Brooks.
(55:29):
I'm Andy Ferman. This is Fox Football Sunday and Fox
Books Radio Alive from the ti iraq dot com studios.
And the first of the Cowboys are at the Jacks today. Okay,
and the Jags one in Nashville thirty last week, the
first time they've won there in nine years. In nine years.
Unbelievable really, and the big news there as far as
(55:50):
Jackson was concerned, I gotta believe Buck Trevor Lawrence. He
was the first pick in the one draft. He threw
for a career best nine three eight and three touchdowns
last week in the last five games, ten touchdowns. No,
I n t s. He's starting to make some noise.
He started to move up the charts. Maybe he's going
to be what everybody thought he would be. Yeah, he's
(56:11):
beginning to play at a high level. And I think
there are a lot of people that are excited about
by the progress. Uh, he's finally kind of stepped into
uh the generational talent and the franchise player that ever,
and a lot of that is due to the coach.
When you marry a good coach who has a quarterback
friendly system with a quarterback who has tremendous talent, these
(56:33):
are the things that you see. It has taken some
time for him to develop the confidence um to be
the player that everyone wanted him to be. But here
he is now, and so I think everyone is excited
about what he has displayed. But I think it's so
much more that he can accomplish. I think a lot
of people are really, really, really optimistic that he's going
to be the next big thing in the league. Right
(56:55):
I just don't think there's enough firepower the effident to
beat the Cowboys. And the game means similar more for
Dallas than it does for Jacksonville. Anyway, even though the
game is in jackson I think the Cowboys win this one.
But it's good to see Trevor Lawrence moving up to charts. Yeah,
he's absolutely moving up to charts. And there are a
lot of people that UM continue to be excited about
the progress. And I think so often when we're in
(57:18):
the draft and we're talking about these guys and we're
oneing if guys can become like star players. You look
so the makeup. He has all the right stuff to
be a star. And I think we're seeing that. We're
seeing that as he grows increasingly more comfortable playing in
Doug Peterson system. He's playing like to do. Everyone expect
him to be right. The problem in the game today,
(57:39):
I think it's gonna be very hard for the Jacksonville
Jaguars defense taken up the field because Dallas just keep
on running the football and just moving those change and
the defense will just be hanging out there with the
tongues hanging out of their mouth. I mean, it could be,
it could be difficult, It could be a challenge. You know,
they moved to change, they play the way that they play.
It could be hard on him. Um, but you never know. Man.
(58:00):
Like the crazy thing about Sunday's I mean, in NFL games,
who would have thought yesterday that the Indianapolis Coas would
ump out to a huge lead over the Minnesota Vikings.
So you gotta play it. If you don't play the
right way, you're vulnerable. And so as they say, any
given Sunday, we just gotta tune in and see what
it looks like. Right, And today's a bit this is
this is one of those games. If you're a gamble,
(58:21):
i'd stay away from. I'm talking about the Lions playing
at the Jets, and I mentioned coming into the segment
that this team is making noise in December, and that's
the Detroit Lions. They've won five out of six. They
pushed their record up to six and seven. They could
be the first team since the playoffs expanded back in
to reach the postseason despite starting with a one and
sixth record. So we'll see what happens. Right now, I'm
(58:43):
rooting for the Lions. I like what I saw on
hard Knocks. I'd like the attitude over there to begin
to believe in themselves. As for the Jets, that they
still have a quarterback question. Is Zach Wilson the long
term guy? Is Mike White gonna go today? What happens
that it gives Zack Wilson the change. I think he
was benched not so much for his play, a lot
thereof bench because of what he said to a news
conference after a loss. Is it my fault? No, you know,
(59:06):
you've got to take responsibility. You're the quarterback. He doesn't
have to take responsibility, and he hadn't shown that he
could take responsibility, and so yeah, it's a huge problem.
And and it's one of those things that you want
to see your quarterback be your best player and your
best leader. And he hadn't shown the ability to take
from that leadership standpoint when I gets an opportunity to
(59:29):
do it. The thing that is tricky. Does the team
believe in him? Does the team believe that he can
be that guy? And if they don't, like, what do
you do with them? How do you if you're down
and he comes into the hall of like, hey guys,
what is that reaction? Like? I don't know, man, Like
(59:49):
it's it's just a weird thing to see. Well, you know,
you talk about coaching. I think right now they got
it rolling in Detroit. They brought in they believe. You know,
you talk about hate the term culture, but what other
terms could you use? It is culture. I mean that
has such a losing street for so many years. That
is a poor culture. And I think you have to
(01:00:09):
get even great players, and these are not great players,
but even good football players to believe that, yes, put
that uniform on in Detroit, you can win. And I
think they're going to win. I'd love to see them
beat the Jets today, I really do big game for
the Jets. They needed to stay alive in the playoff hunt.
But honestly, the Lions win, they got a good shot
of getting into the playoffs. I really like the lines,
(01:00:31):
and what I like about the Lions is how hard
they play. They played really hard, man, they and they
play hard and offensively. Jerry Golf has kind of found
his way and this team is one that is one
of the more dangerous teams that will find and and
and so when I'm looking at this team, I think
they have a chance and I would love to see
them back do or they're way into the playoffs. But
(01:00:54):
Dan Campbell has done a really good job of not
only pumping life into this team, but being very consistent
and what he wants from the team, and the team
has responded and so well, we'll get a chance to
see this team, uh play as a not as a
maybe as a favorite. Yeah, see what they look like
when they have a little freshure on them to deliver,
because now expectations come Before they were new expectations, which
(01:01:17):
you're easy, but now can you play with expectations? That's
the big things and the question Now, I mean, you
gotta believe there are some fans on the West coast
in l A who route for the Rams saying, man,
what if we had Jared Goff now right. I gotta
believe they're saying that, and they should because I felt
like I feel like Jerry Golf was a much better
player than he ever got credit for with the RAMS.
(01:01:39):
A lot of it was oh, Sean McVeigh and Sean
maybe he did this, and he did. He certainly made
it easy for Jerry Golf to play at a high level.
But I think too often people made it where Jared
Goff was more like a scru up and he wasn't.
He's a good player and in the right system, he
could play at a high level. And if he had
people that believed in him, he would play at a
(01:02:01):
high level. And so now he has people that believe
in him. Uh, he has a system that works for
him and he's having success as a result. Boys hes
twenty two t ds and only seven picks. Pretty good seasons.
There you go. Bucky Brooks always has a good season.
I'm Andy Firman with together on Sundays becuill the Fox
Football Sunday. And by the way, today's loss, we'll put
(01:02:24):
the nail in the coffin for one NFL coach that's
coming right up at first to Nick cope with all
the sports. All right, thank you, Andy. Let's get everyone
caught up on who's in and who's out today. Reports
say that Commander's defensive end Chase Young not likely to
make his season debut tonight on Sunday Night Football against
the Giants, but he could play the final three games.
(01:02:47):
Raiders running back Joonlens Jacobs on track to play. Vegas
also activated tighten Darren Waller and receiver Hunter Renfrow on
a Saturday. Cardinals receiver Hollywood Brown expected to play in
the Spine and hill Us Chiefs receivers could Areas Tuning
and McCole Hardman expected to play. Patriots receiver Jacobe Meyers
(01:03:07):
on track to play. Running back Romandre Stephenson will go
through pregame warmups before they figure out if he can go.
Jets defensive tackle Quinnin Williams is a game time decision.
Getting reports this morning that Kyler Murray has a chance
to recover from his a c L injury in time
for the start of the three season. Varying reports have
(01:03:28):
his return timetable anywhere from six to eight months, but
doctors are saying that he's got a clean tear of
the A C L that is going to aid in
him returning to the field sooner rather than later. In
Lane NBA Action, the Son's got fifty eight points from
Devin Booker overcame a twenty four point deficit to beat
the Pelicans one eighteen to one fourteen thunderbat the Grizzlies
(01:03:52):
one fifteen to one on nine as John Morant was
ejected for quote questioning the integrity of an official in
college foot all. At the first Go Bowl Boys, the
State outlasted North Texas thirty two. B Y You hung
on against s Muree in the New Mexico Bowl, and
Fresno State completed a ten win season with a six
(01:04:14):
win over Washington State. In the l A Bowl World
Cup Final. Coming up at ten eastern on Foxes, Argentina
faces defendant champion France. France beat England in the quarterfinals
and with that brought questions about Garrett south Gates future
as England's manager, but it was announced today that Southgate
will continue through Euro Andy. Bucky back to you guys,
(01:04:36):
Thank you so much. Okay, they're gonna need more balanced
if they want to win this one. We'll get to
that in just about a minute. We of course the
fifty oid line and will be called Fox Football Sunday.
He is Bucky Brooks, I'm Andy Fermin and Batta battle
betting in about eight minutes for now. But the Cardinals
are playing at Denver and the Broncos of course, and
the Cardinals coach Cliffe Kingsbury. He's one in five in
(01:04:56):
his last six and I say I lost today. We'll
probably call to his job. Maybe not right after the game,
but I think after the season. Here's what I'm worried about.
I don't know the terms of the extension. He and
general manager Steve com signed attention at the end of
the year. We don't know the terms of the extension,
and so Candy Cardinals afford to dump Cliff Kingsbury. And
(01:05:19):
I know the last year and a half it hasn't
been great. The numbers are something crazy. I wasn't or
whatever since there By week last year. Um, and it
doesn't look like he has any answers. But can there
Ford to fire I That's that's what I don't know.
You don't just sign I got to an extension in
the next year, you dump them right away. Um, those
(01:05:42):
are the big things. Now. Is there a problem between
the relationship between he and the quarter about Kyler Murray?
It seems to me from the outside looking in, there
is there may be, but right now you're married to
him here married to the quarterback. When they made a
decision to give Kylor Murray the extension, everyone had to
be on board, and by all accounts, they were on
(01:06:04):
board at that moment. And so they have to figure
out a way to make it work. And the funny
thing is he's the handpick quarterback of the coach and
for them not to be able to work it out
like that's that's a huge indictment. They should have been
able to kind of get that worked out. They should
have been able to find a way to build a
system to U. I just don't like the way the
(01:06:26):
team is constructed. The team is just built weird, you know,
they're just it's not not built the way that you
expect the championship team to be built. They're old. They're
an old team, and typically old teams cannot sustain a
high level of consistency because it's a young man's game,
and I think they just made some mistakes when it
comes to building the team that have kind of caught
(01:06:48):
up to him right now. Yeah, it's funny. I mean,
you know, I remember when A J. Green was really
rocking and rolling in Cincinnati. I mean, he's still playing,
but he's playing at a lesser level right now. And
I were Jona, like how many years ago, Like think
about that, though, Bane you're there Cincinnati, think about how
long has been since A J. Green has played at
a high level right He basically didn't play at a
(01:07:10):
high level of the last two years with the Bengals
due to injuries, and so you just think about it. Man,
that's a lifetime ago. Like three years is the average
NFL career. So to think that someone's gonna dig back
into the past five years ago and bring that performance
backs baked into your right and you can see the
same thing about that backup quarter about Colton McCoy and
(01:07:30):
talked to believe he's still been in the league. I mean, really,
he's been in the league since Vince Lombardy was coaching.
He really got to to backup quarterbacks going to and
speaking of Colton McCoy, he better be careful today because
the Denver team they lost to Kansas City last week.
That Denver team had three pitch last week. So McCoy
is gonna be watching himself. He has to watch himself
(01:07:51):
because it's dangerous territory right now. Dangerous territory in terms
of this team is still trying to play hard. They're
still are trying to get back on track. Uh, they
still are very very prideful. But and so we'll see,
we'll see, we'll see what what this team is able
to do. I like the Broncos today in this game,
to be honest, You like the Broncos without Russell Wilson.
(01:08:12):
What happens if they win without Russell Wilson? What does
that mean for Russell? Say they're married, they're married to him,
that does Nothing's gonna happen, but they're married to Russell.
But uh, you know, I still think they are a
better team. And I think there's just too much disarray
with this Arizona team. And the game is in Denver,
so there's someone of an advantage there, you know, But
the game is meaningless for both. It really is. Once
Broncos three and ten, cards of four and eight. So
(01:08:34):
here's Here's where the meaning comes for the Seattle Seahawks.
Um because the Denver Broncos, I think, give up their
first round pick to the Seattle Seahawks. So right now
they keep losing. You talk about the Seattle Seahaks being
able to cash in on a big time pick, and
I would advocate that the Seahawks don't need to use
that pick on a quarterback. They need to use that
(01:08:58):
pick on a player that can give them, uh some
juice on defense. So I'm looking to see where where
the Broncos fall off. Here we go, all right, we
got the Patriots at the Raiders today. Patriots are clinging
for a playoff birth at seven and six, Raiders five
and eight. Raiders are coming off now a ten day rest.
That's a big advantage at least this time of the
(01:09:18):
year for me, I believe. But the campaign. Can the
Patriots run the ball against the Raiders. The Raiders offense
basically is built on running back Josh Jacobs he leaves
the NFL and rushing yards. This team, to me, is
somewhat one dimensional. They need more balance. He's got two
or just sixty nine rushing attempts. You have to move
the football around not just give it to Jacobs. I mean,
you're a defensive guy, and Bill Belichick's a defensive whiz
(01:09:40):
as a coach. You know, just key in on Josh
Jacobs and you're really in pretty good shape. You are
a pretty good shape. But everybody has known over the
last four or five weeks that the ball is going
to Josh Jacobs and they still haven't been able to stop.
So I think if you're Josh McDaniel, you don't change you.
You challenge the Patriots to have an the answer for him,
(01:10:01):
and bell Jack is one of the best. He might
he might have an answer, but it's not a guarantee
that they're gonna be able to uh deal with him.
I think it's one of those things where you gotta test.
You're talking about strength on strength. Let's see Josh McDaniels
handle handles this situation because it's a unique situation for
him to jump into for sure. You know, and I
mentioned that the rage of someone one dimensional with Josh Jacobs,
(01:10:21):
will you know what, I'm not an excuse the pages
this someone one dimensional as well, becaus well they do
is run because Matt Jones, the quarterback, is not too
dynamic to be honest. No, he's not a dynamic player,
not a dyn him clear at all. You're just trying
to figure out. You're trying to go along and get
along and hope that he can find a way to
make enough place uh tip the team get over the
(01:10:42):
over the top, and you're still wondering if Matt Patricia
and Joe Judge can somehow find a way to create
an offense that allows them to score enough points consistently. Um,
they win games, but it's ugly. But here's the thing
if you're the Raiders that you have to worry about
the New England Page just may have the bass pass
rush best to pass rushers in football, and josh U
(01:11:04):
j and Matthew Udon they have been absolutely crushing it
off the edge. Can they protect if New England is
able to stop the run or early now and they're
able to get them in what we call obvious past situations?
Third and long, everyone knows, everyone to say, knows it's
going to be a pass Can Can the Raiders protect
in those moments? The DoD say no. But it's one
(01:11:28):
of those things where if you're the Raiders, you have
to win early downs because you don't want to have
to deal with the pass Russ. Okay, I'm glad you
mentioned the guy's name, Matt Patrician. What what does she
bring to the table as an offensive coordinator. That guy
couldn't get it done in Detroit and it was a
defensive guy. Now now is the offensive is he really
calling the place? I mean, what is happening in New
England on the offensive side of the football. It has
(01:11:50):
been great. He's still trying to figure it out. I mean,
Vance Joseph said it, and people got mad. But Vance
Joe said, he calls offense like a defensive coach, meaning
when you've come from a defensive perspective. Um, what you
think about is the negative things that can happen when
you make certain play calls. So defensive minded coaches are
less likely to throw the ball because you think about
(01:12:13):
the things that can happen in completion sacks, turnos. We
let h run the ball. We're gonna throw short, quick, fast.
Is because high probability of completions, low probability of interceptions.
You want to run the ball from power sets, control
that managed the game, all those things, and so coming
from that standpoint, it looks a lot different to the
(01:12:34):
eye of Patriots fans who had Josh McDaniels, who when
you come from an offensive standpoint, you think about the
possibilities and what we could do and how we could
do this. In the creativity, it's a different slant. And
and mac Jones was playing better, the offense will look different.
He wasn't playing great at the beginning because he was
stepping outside of himself. And so yeah, we can blame
(01:12:56):
Matt Patricia, but some of it falls on the shoulders
a mac Jones. Mac Jones plays well and does me
exactly what they asked him to do, they'll win games.
We'll see what I appens today. Who do you like
in this one though? Because I think they gotta be
a little hungry, that's the key. Yeah, because that's still
think they can get outside. They can snatch that birth
(01:13:18):
from the Mammie Dolphins. They still are in line to
be able to get that part done. So I'm with him.
There you go. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Ferman, Fox
Football Sunday, Fox Busts Radio. A game of skill, a
game of chance, a game of luck, all roll into
one and we call it bottom barrel betting. And it's
freaking next bottom barrel betting right around the corner right now.
(01:13:40):
It's about twelve minutes before the top of the hour.
He is Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman. This is Fox
Football Sunday and Fox Bust Radio. By the way, we
got a game to play, so let's play it. Yes
it is, and your host has always Mr bat How
are you beat? I'm good Andy. How are you well?
Let you know as soon as you tell me the results.
How are you doing, Bucky? I'm great man. So Bucky
(01:14:04):
has been out the last couple of weeks. We've had
some fill ins with with Arnie Spanier and Chris Plank
filling in doing a great job. And last week you
and Arnie who was in Andy, Uh you tied three
and two for both of you. So we'll see if
Bucky can un break the tie a little bit and
(01:14:25):
maybe uh you be a nice little beat down in
bottom barrow betting. So let's start with the main event
for Sunday, the Speed Chess Championship. Speed Chess Magnus Carlson
is a three and a half point favorite over Caru
Nakamura today, so Andy and Bucky will knock Amura pull
(01:14:46):
off the upset. Are you sticking with Carlson, Mr Bucky,
go right ahead? Oh, I'm sticking with the favorite favorite,
always going with the champ. I'll go with Namura. Really,
I'm going with Knockama. I'll tell you why, because the
Carlson's kind of guy from the US of A. And
it's been a lot of chess cheating in the US
of A. That's why I'm going Nakamura. Okay, alright, well, obviously,
(01:15:12):
the the FIFA World Cup Championship is uh the or
the final is today we got France taken on Argentina.
So in bottom barrel betting fashion and you, Bucky, well,
the winning goal or penalty kick be scored with the
left foot or the right foot. Goodness, that's right foot,
(01:15:34):
right foot? Yeah, I have to say that that out
of the twenty two players that are on the field,
I'd say at least twenty a right footed I would think.
But then again, book they probably could kick both way.
They have by dexters with their feet. So but as
I'll go right, I'm gonna go with the straight I'm
going with the power foot, the right foot. Are you
well versed in what foot each each player is? Andy?
(01:15:58):
You know, I'm wondering if they have that on the
stat sheet on the for PR purposes, the press notes
kicks with right or kicks with left. I I don't
know that. I'm sure they do. Yeah, they do. I
was a PR guy in soccer. I never put that
on my press notes when they where they kicked. I mean,
it's interesting, really. I believe Messi is left footed. If
(01:16:19):
I'm not mistaken, he is left footed. But when I'm
banking on his at one, they're not going to win,
and that he's somehow not going to score. He is
left footed. He always goes to his left. He doesn't
dribble much with his right. It is coming off his
left foot. But I'm saying that he's not going to score. Wow, alright, well.
One of the most notable stories from the World Cup
(01:16:39):
that are Chris, that are wonderful. Chris Perfette has noted
in his World World Cup updates has been the amount
of stoppage time the refs have been issuing. They've been
very lenient this tournament. So any a buckey over or
under eight and a half minutes of stoppage time in
the second half of today's final match, m HM m
(01:17:03):
M hmm, and Andy's up. Okay, I'm gonna go under.
I don't think there's gonna go over right and a
half minutes a matter of fact that I don't think
they'll have to, but I think they will go on
the right in here. That's that's a big that's a chunk.
Eight and a half minutes. It is a chunk, and
I was gonna go there, but I'll take the over
to be different. And the reason why is someone's gonna
(01:17:25):
lay out and play like they're dead like cowboys. And
that's going to be the overtime because the extra time,
the injury time, I was going to push it over.
So it's the World Cup. A lot of flopping today,
so I'm gonna go over. Alright, we'll moving quickly. Two
of the biggest stars in soccer fizzing off in today's game,
obviously Leonel Messi and killing him Bope for France. So
(01:17:46):
over under uh point five combined goals by these superstars.
So will either one of them score over another combined
goals for the two of them? Yeah, So are either
Emboby or are Messy scoring today? Oh yes, oh for sure, Yeah, yes,
I don't know which one, but one will score. Nah,
(01:18:09):
I don't think so. I think somebody else gonna have
to score. Okay, alright, wrapping it up last week we
had we talked about alex Ovechkin getting to eight hundred goals. Well,
he's there, and he's only two goals away from passing
Gordy how for second on the all time scoring list,
Andy and Bucky Willow Vetchkins eight hundred and first goal
(01:18:30):
be a power play goal? Yes or no, m M.
Power play. I think it happens. I think it happens
in regulation, no power play even even even you know what,
I'm gonna be a little different. I'm gonna say yes,
I think it will be a power play goal. It
really will be. And I can't believe he's gonna pass
(01:18:51):
Cordy How. That's big. That's huge in the in the NHL,
that passed Cordy a legend, a true legend. Well, you
know what they say in the NHL there read things
death taxes and alex Ovechkin scoring on the power play. Alright,
we'll see what happens here. All right, you're joined with
the main man the swollen dome. That's Mike Harmon. Coming

Welcome in another beautiful Fox Football Sunday. Here Fox Sports
Radio from the tire rack dot com studios. Mike Harmon
(01:19:34):
shot out of a cannon this morning. Why holiday? Holiday Holidays?
Alongside my guys Bucking Brooks and Andy Furman. Gentlemen, Happy holiday?
What's going on? So? Excuse me? But I I just
gonna say, I got a question. Yeah, hit me. I
watched that Buffalo game against Miami with the snow and
Buffalo and they made an announcement of p a announcement
(01:19:57):
like anybody caught throwing snowballs, it's gonna be an assessed
fifteen yard penalty because the Buffalo Bills. Let me ask you, this,
does alcohol make you that crazy? If you'll go into
that game. I would have to say the people in
that stadium of Buffalo Bill fans, why on earth you
throw a snowball if your team is gonna get penalized.
I don't get it. I don't understand life. Of time.
(01:20:18):
Can I can let me let me take a first
crack at this one, Bucky. I'm gonna say, on some level,
it's the is he really gonna throw the flag? Kind
of like you know, you're driving to dinner and you've
got the kids in the back seat and they're being
a NUIs since they're loud, they're hitting each other, Mom, dad.
He keeps slabbing me, Uh, you gave me a wet
willie all that crap. But you say I will turn
(01:20:41):
to the car around. The kids are gonna keep going
saying that mom or Dad's not turn it around. They
still need to eat too, right, I mean, I think
it's the same thing here. Is that all right, throw
a flag? Let me see it. Well, that's the thing
I've never seen people talk about a flag for the snowball.
I mean, it's the it's it's the Christmas spirit. It's
(01:21:03):
snow on the ground, it's a snow game. It's a party,
buffalo headed rocket and rolling in the stadium. So it's fun.
You throwing snowballs, you gotta go in, you scoring touchdowns,
that's all a part of it. It's the first time
that I've ever seen because of that. Yeah, that's right.
I mean there's two things that go on here. Number one,
maybe you gotta bet with your buddy. Hey, I bet
you I can hit fifty four squaring the numbers. Now
(01:21:27):
you got some extra friendly out wagering in game wagering
beyond just point spreads and uh, you know, individual prop bets.
That is a That is a good call, Mike Harmon.
One of the things that I think we have to
account for. I think that game started at a p m.
Eastern time? Right, yeah, so what so so so exactly
(01:21:47):
what time do you think we started tailgating? So if
you're nice and fool awesome adult beverages, you think you
might be a little more apt to throw some snowballs
as opposed to play in the one o'clock game. Well
like today, right, I said, foodball and football. I just
got like notice afternotice, bling, bling, bling, of all the
local bars restaurants that are opening up early so you
(01:22:11):
could come and have a drink and watch the World
Cup final. So that's a full three hours before the
first kickoff of today's NFL games, So you got that.
I would think that the National Football League on the
Buffalo Bills organization together should be so happy that even
people showed up after sixteen inches of snow. I'm sure
some of the roads were has this or maybe closed.
And if I looked around when I were painting the
(01:22:32):
stadium on TV, it wasn't entirely full. People couldn't get there. No,
they couldn't get there. The others, you know, you start
looking around and saying, you know what, I'll fight for
another day, and maybe you tried to give your tickets
away and just saying, hey, i know it's a big
matchup and I'm gonna sit this one out. Grows your treacherous.
He got the conditions, and certainly as the game war
(01:22:54):
on for those that tuned in early, like where's all
the snow? No, it was there and they were ready
to row it and every time. And I'm also going
to say this, Uh, the fact that they show ELF
all the time, bad influence. That's it. We always used
to blame rock and roll music for everything. Now it's
snowball fights from ELF. Yeah, I mean, they they they
they definitely had it going. It was definitely a problem.
(01:23:16):
You can just feel the energy in the building and
it's turned out to be a pretty good game, which
is funny because I don't think Buffalo played their best game.
I think, if anything, the Miami Dolphin has probably played
about as well as they could play to playing into conditions,
they were able to run the football and all that.
So for Buffalo, I think it's kind of like a
featherneck gap that they didn't play their best game, but
(01:23:37):
they knocked off one of the teams that some with
you as a playoff team. Well, let me ask this
question as we come to you live from the tire
act dot Com studios. Tiract dot com will help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tire ract
dot com the way tire buying should be. So much
made about the cold right Daniel running around. I wish
(01:24:01):
it was colder on the shirt and doing all its
strutt and everything it practiced. So much made about the
heaters on the sidelines last week in Los Angeles, and
I like mcdermotts quote in the middle of the week
because it's not like we have a snow machine and
we're practicing in a foot of snow and thirty mile
an hour winds outside all the time. There's some but yeah,
(01:24:24):
there's something to it. But um, you know, as a
Chicago guy, when you're in it, you're in it. Yeah,
but you're also in Chicago. How did they combat it?
You're wearing gortex and an extra forty pounds of skin
and fat. But a love my Chicago people. But I'm
calling it what it is. Yeah, but you also know,
so you get used to dealing with it. When I
(01:24:46):
was in Green Bay after a year, so you get
used to being able to wear a sweat shirt in
that weather because you're like, it's forty. It's not like
when you live in California. In the first time it
dips down below six, you're like, oh my god. Yeah,
So it's it's a difference. So it's just being in
that element. Jeanmy Dermott is right in terms of playing
(01:25:07):
in it, but it's still something to always working out
in it, walking around in it. You're not as maybe
intimidated or it's not as daunting as it would be. Well,
you know, you could use it as an advantage. I
remember back in eighteen eighty two when they had this
so called freeze a Bowl in Cincinnati. It was two
are you really dating your seine eighty two? It was
(01:25:29):
so called freezeable. I think the templeto something like minus
eighteen twenty whatever it was at San Diego at the time.
San Diego had a team. They came here to play
the Bengals in the playoff game. And with the Bengals
did I guess they got them to them mentally. All
the alignmen just wore shirt sleeves and they greased their
arms down with something of vesseling, I guess, but they
(01:25:49):
wore shirt sleeves. I think it freaked out the San
Diego team. I just really believe it did. So, you know,
they did that, and they were fans, they who passed
out because you know the way fans, and once they've
got a couple of adult beverages in there, they were
taking their shirts off and sitting there in the stands.
You know, bitch as did then. You know, they took
a lot of people away into the hospital after that.
But still at all I remember when the Bengals did that,
(01:26:10):
they went out there in shirt sleeves. Yeah, these are
the kind of games that are the best. When Kevin
Harlan's on the call and that guy running out on
the field, he's bear chested. That guy is drunk. Uh,
and there he goes. Uh that kind of situation. I
remember traveling the Big Ten as a as a student, right,
we went watched our guys play all across the land,
(01:26:31):
and and in Wisconsin they always gave us a nice,
healthy um well sip or two of a hot Damn.
It's well. I think it's a precursor if I'm remembering
correctly to what Fireball has become without, without the marketing
and management and whatever. I just remember it warmed up
my inside something special, which was good. I didn't drink
(01:26:53):
enough to get inebriated, but I felt pretty good. And
it made uh sitting there and getting our our butts
get kicked by Ron Day and the ball carrier. I mean,
you heard his name so often that you actually thought
that was part of his surname, you know, Pliny the Elder.
No Day in the ball carrier. That's kind of how
and uh Over the loud speaker was just and just
(01:27:16):
keep leaning on us behind those three horses. Yeah, I
would say this because uh, I did not share this
on storytime, But and playing in a cloth weather game, Uh,
the championship game. I think it's ninety s championship game.
Jaguars would go up to New England and it's it's freezing,
and we decided to do some of that stuff that
Firman talked about with the Bengals offensive line. We're not
(01:27:38):
gonna put on sleeves. We're not gonna do that. So
I was wanted to participate in that. And let me
tell you, I've never been more distracted in the first
half of the game than Nel kiddon. The only thing
that I could think about when I was on the
field is I cannot wait to get back to the
hot seat and I cannot wait to put on the park.
And so it's one of those things where we can
(01:27:58):
talk about mind over mad and all that. The best
thing that you can do is come properly equipped the
right tights, the right understuff, the right gloves, and then
you just gotta get used to it. But there's nothing
that can prepare you for paying in a cold weather
game besides playing in cold weather games. And it must
be really a pain buck when you have to relieve
yourself taking all those layers of clothing. How do you
(01:28:20):
do that? You do what you don't think, You just
do it. You don't hydrate, you don't hydrate because that
is that is tough because you already feel like you're
walking around like the Michelin man, right, you got all
the stuff on that you don't have all this stuff on.
You got extra socks and and the tights and if
(01:28:40):
they're thick, you don't feel like your normal self. And
like people will tell you, like, football is violent, but
it's extra violent when it's cold, because man, there is
nothing worse than getting drilled when it's cold. I mean
it's just a different level of pain when someone drops
the hammer on in that situation. Well, because you're you're
(01:29:02):
now rattled from head to toe and your psyche. I
mean you can literally see the soul leave leave guys
after some of these hits, you know, going back to
last week, not that it was cold necessarily, but when
Mike White got folded in half, I think we all
felt that he as a former player, Buck, I gotta
think that you watched the replay of that when a
(01:29:24):
couple of times you just went, man, that is about
as clean and and I mean breaking a hit as
you're going to get. Yeah, absolutely, and and that's what
you want. When when we talk about it, it really
doesn't change the team that out hits the other team
is the team that typically wins. And so what you
(01:29:45):
want is you want someone delivered the big, the big
hit early in the game. And I know we're at
a point where we're talking about health and safety and
cleaning out some of the stuff. When it comes to
the game, bahrmon, it still comes down to that. It
still comes out to the old Buddy Ryan body bag game,
the the those um things that we're not supposed to
(01:30:06):
talk about. You have to deliver a big hid if
you want the game to change. Well, the stuff they
used to sell, all those videos and DVDs, I mean,
and he's got a whole closet forum, yeah, yelling jacked
up at every opportunity player. Now I still have one.
And then my kids, I mean they they're really wearing
out the vinyl. I already got to buy a new needle.
(01:30:27):
It's crazy old school, it is, but a number of
games on the slate today where we're looking at temperatures
in the teens and then tomorrow, depending on what the
actual temperature is at game time, will be monitoring it.
It's estimated that this will be the coldest game that
the Rams organizational play in the last thirty years. And
(01:30:49):
it's interesting that you bring up this weather fact the piculist.
I don't think that it's been made a big deal,
and it should be a bigger deal than it is.
The advantages that teams have they play and dome stadiums,
I really believe that, and I think that someone needs
to do a study and maybe I'll do that every
free time of the one lost record of teams that
play in dome stadiums and from November on, maybe from
(01:31:11):
November on. When you think it's you think it's an
advantage to play in the dome, it is. I mean,
when you were in Green Bay, would you rather No,
absolutely not, because you're a better ecrypted playing the code
whether if you practice in it every day. But these
teams don't. They got these indoor facilities, so they they
played in the sixties degrees whole week long and they
(01:31:32):
go about to minus stand doesn't make any sense. You
know what I would do, Andy, if I was coaching
those teams our practice in the indoor facility with the
doors open, that's what that's what does that That's what
I would do because you need to get used to it.
Because I've always felt like this and I can't. I
can't say this advantageous and it hasn't shown up in
the record for the Chicago Bears. But if I'm the Medicins, No,
(01:31:53):
I'm just saying, if I'm the Minnesota Vikings, I would
not want to Dome Stadium because and you think about
when the Minnesota Vikers went to all those Super Bowls,
the common denominated they played outside. They have not been
to a Super Bowl since they moved inside because they
had an advantage if you went home field advantage to
the Minnesota Vikers and you make people play up there
and basically iceland, it is a huge They gave up
(01:32:18):
that advantage by moving inside and making it very comfy
and cozy for the fans, But they would win more
if they played outside Green Bay. There's a common denominated
typically to come. They won. Now you have to build
your team to be able to do it. Me and
you need to be able to run the football and
play great defense in those things. But there's a huge
advantage for me if you play in co wear the
(01:32:40):
environments because everyone is not prepared to play in that. Yeah.
I remember while we commemorated last Monday, when the famous
Metrodome when the roof ripped. We were on air doing
the Fantasy preview show and looking at monitors and going
did that just happen? That really just happened on live
television as their previewing a game. Yes, it did. Uh
(01:33:02):
so the the chaos that ensues, We'll keep an eye
on weather reports throughout if you're traveling. Be safe out there.
Happy honaka to those of you that celebrate. Our friends
are extended family out there listening wherever you are. Day
one of Hanukkah today. I know we got our guy
per fet. It's his final day in this time slot.
(01:33:22):
At this time next week he will be napping or
in the middle of an full night. What do you mean, Wow, Well,
his eyes are open. I mean, like, whoa. I can't
even repeat what he just Uh. He just mouthed, Okay,
he said he loved you. This is what he said.
(01:33:44):
It's that Midwestern way of saying I love you. He's
Bucky Brooks, He's Andy Ferman. I'll buy Carmen. You know.
We're just talking about big hits and and all of that.
Uh and certainly a topic that came up during the
middle of this week. Uh. And we had some of
the executives speaking out about it based on well some
(01:34:06):
some hits that got flagged that probably shouldn't have. Yeah,
more replay. What do we think of it? We'll talk
about that next year on Fox. Hey, welcome back at
It's Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. I'm my carbon
alongside me five years in the NFL, NFL dot Com
read his column every Friday. It's our guy, Bucky Brooks,
(01:34:29):
NFL Network, Fox Sports covering the Jaguars, coaching high school football,
deep into playoffs, all those things. And my guy Andy Furman,
who's a legend in this business and he's been with
us a long time. We go back a very long way,
he and I in terms of this Fox Sports Radio menagerie.
(01:34:50):
All right, there you go. Uh, And certainly as we
roll forward, Uh, the experience of watching stretch runs and
watching the evolution of the game, Well, you've got three
guys that have been watching it, throwing things at televisions
or participating in the league for a very long time,
which makes the subject I bring up now kind of
(01:35:11):
the the curiosity of, well, where do you stop if
you're gonna open Keim Dora's box with this roughing the
passer penalties that we watch and we we start to
try to figure out severity, and that's what the league
is evidently discussing. Wednesday, at the December League Meeting, Executive
vice President of Football Operation Troy Vincent told reporters that
(01:35:35):
there's gonna be a healthy discussion about making fouls such
as roughing the passer review able now, either a league review,
so someone in the offices in New York pushed the
magic button to buzz the official or a coach's challenge.
We saw it with the hit Phillips on Justin Herbert
(01:35:57):
in a big spotlight game. We watched it on Thursday
when Nick Bosa, you know, the old body on the
quarterback stuff, uh, and a pick six got called back
because of it. And then later on Bosa had his
opportunity to sack Gino again and he kind of did
a frogger move on him or he hit him and
(01:36:18):
then Joe jumped off. It was. It was pretty good.
It was, it was pretty good. I can almost hear
the music playing, maybe uh, picturing a little Mikey Harmon
back and at Arcade all those years ago. But I'll
start with you Andie, I mean, what do you think
we've got reviews for other are we now gonna say
we're judging the intent based on the ferocity of it
(01:36:40):
and where his body land. There's two sides to this argument,
and it's a brought such situation. Number One, you want
to get it right, and that's the way to get
it right. I'd say yes, But that the the sacking
the quarterback and the roughing the quarterback. I think it's
kind of like taking away from the officials. I'll give
you an example. I don't think these games need to
run into eternity. I watched the game years stay. The
first game start at one o'clock Eastern and ended after
(01:37:03):
four thirty. I mean, at these games you stay in
like two two and a half three hours. It's the time.
I understand the commercial breaks, I get that, But the
review thing, you know, if I'm an official, I'm not happy.
I'm not happy with it. You know, don't take the
whishl out of my hand. Make the call good, better
and different. That's it. I'm sorry. Uh, and and to
review everything just it's enough already. I don't I don't
(01:37:24):
like it. I really don't. Yeah, I think this is
one where you have to kind of review it something
because some of the calls have been horrible and the
penalty is so severe. You talk about the fifteen your
op penalty that changes, Uh, the outcome of drives really
gives your automatic first down and those things. So you
have to be able to review it, but you want
(01:37:45):
to be able to do it quickly. And so I
think everything is time And you're right, that first game
yesterday took forever. Now part of that was because the
Minnesota Vikers were in such a hold and they decided
they had to pass every down and ended apples gold
for whatever reason decide and so they left the Vike.
Is enough time to come back, but yeah, it can't
(01:38:06):
be a four hour game. But you have to figure
out a way to kind of deal with that penalty
because that penalty has probably been the biggest one when
it comes to how it impacts the game. Well, you
got that in past interferences, Bucky h. I mean because
you got these forty yard penalties on you know, on
guys and you're're looking around going, all right, the offensive
player pushed off or you know, their their hand fighting.
(01:38:30):
But because one guy is a star and the others not,
he gets a call and that's part of the game.
I get that, but right, but you start going down
the road of reviewing these right the boats of player.
The other day you watch it live and like, what's
he supposed to do? He's hitting and coming through the guy.
(01:38:51):
I mean, what do you want to play bumper cars
with the guy? Now, it'll league where guys where guys
don't go down Andy, because I mean, that's the part
of it is they bounce off you and they extend
to play another three seconds, thirty yard touchdown pass down field.
But Bucky made a great point about the roughing. The
pass is a game change, you know, it's a game changer.
(01:39:12):
You pass interference? Why why do I say that quarterbacks
throwing the ball goes down there? Maybe it could stout
to the ten yard line, twelve yard line, and they
call they throw the flag? Why? Why on earth then
do you have to give the person of that team
the ball on that on that line? Why is it
fifteen yards? Why is it at the point of the flag.
(01:39:33):
Just give them the down and that's it. Give them
a first down. I don't think you have to move
the yardage up. I mean, maybe I'm crazy, but there's
no guarantee he's gonna catch the ball anyway. So you know,
you talk about a game change and no, don't don't
do that, throw the flag and say okay, automatic first
down from the point of where the quarterback through the ball.
That's where it should be. I would like to see
(01:39:56):
it become more the college rule where you talking about
like the the fifteen yards and and and the other stuff. Um.
I know people think that, and we probably would that
DBS would abuse that rule that What DPS would do
is basically we would just clutch and hold the entire
game and we would say you're not gonna call fifty
pass interferences. And that isn't that kind of where we're
(01:40:18):
at already? Well kind of what I mean. But remember
the l ob the Legion of Bowl with Pete Carroll. Well,
when New England still does to a good degree watch
some of their games, they'll they'll clutch and Graham and
Bill belichickill just smile at you the entire time. And
that's that's what happens. And so it's it's one of
those things. I don't know how we can clean it up,
but you would like to see, uh, maybe making a
(01:40:39):
twenty five yard penalty, right, I just don't like the
fifty yard penalty on a Tiki tech touch call. He's no,
but that's but that's the thing, right, it becomes because
we've seen it a lot this year, and I'll use
to as an example, like he's got some deceptive uh stats.
We were talking about it last week, Andy, right when
(01:41:00):
where we we would expect him to be among the leaders,
and yet it's actually a leader in air yards. But
he's also had a number of balls where he's woefully
underthrown Tyreek Hill. I mean, you get him on a
dead sprint, he's spreading by and the ball gets caught
up in the wind or you know, he's got to
change the trajectory or whatever, and then you start coming
back for it. What's gonna happen. Guys are pushing and
(01:41:21):
shoving to get back to that spot, or they stop
on a dime and you run through them when you
wouldn't have otherwise if the ball had been thrown normally.
So at times you're you're just fighting a battle that
I mean, everything's already leaning towards the offense as it is,
this just seems like it could lean even further. I mean,
(01:41:43):
it's definitely an offensive game. They've definitely made it were
a solid offense, no defense. So I mean, you know,
the marketers that run the NFL realized that that's what
that's what fans want. They want points and that's basically
what makes it go. I mean, let's face, why is
soccer all of us in the world. Obviously it's popular,
but during the regular season it really is on the
(01:42:05):
tips of the tongue of everybody because there's not enough scoring.
There's not scoring and stuff. People want scoring. You go,
you go, sit through ninety minutes where one nothing game,
it's ridiculous. What they should do is maybe you know,
close close the goals. They can make the post closer together,
so there's more scoring. I mean that would be okay.
(01:42:26):
Why would the Olympics for Olympic hockey versus the NHL. Yeah,
goal goals are a little taller. You know, maybe in
Europe it's different, maybe they used to it, but I
think in our country we want scoring. You know, baseball
is hurting like that, not enough runs. Well, guys need
to go back and learn how to hit instead of
(01:42:46):
just waving at balls and fans and fantasy. To quit
being lazy and have an appreciation for some of the tactics.
Like everything is not gonna be a ten nine game
in baseball, it's that could be six five in soccer,
Like there has to be an appreciation for the game,
is right, I'm offense, but come on, like we we
we have to be able to appreciate the game as
it is, which I'm ready for a nil nil penalty
(01:43:11):
kicks final today with the World Cup. Uh, you know what,
we did talk a lot about offense there. We got
a couple of games to preview before our hour is
up here. But but there's a coach that said he's
sad about the state of the game. He's got a
quarterback decision to he might be sad about that. But
first we're gonna go to Nick Cope and get an
(01:43:31):
update on the ends outs and the rumor conjecture speculation
around player availability in week fifteen. What's going on? Nick?
What's up? Mike, Andy, Bucky? Good to be with you
guys this morning. Yes, let's get everyone up to speed.
Reports say Raiders running back Josh Jacobs is on track
to play. Also on Saturday, you had Vegas activating tight
(01:43:51):
end Darren Waller and receiver hunter renfro So. Good news.
For the Raiders. There Commander's defensive end Chase Young. He's
been close but still not likely to make his season
debut tonight against the Giants on Sunday Night Sunday Night Football.
They say, however, he could play in the final three
games for Washington. Chiefs receiver Canarius Tuny is expected to
(01:44:12):
play So's Cardinals receiver Hollywood Brown despite an illness. For
the Patriots, receiver Jacobe Myers is set to play running
back romand Dre Stevenson. They're gonna work him out pregame
and then make a decision on if he can go.
For New England Jets, defensive tackle Quitted Williams will be
a game time decision. NFL media reporting that Steelers quarterback
(01:44:34):
Mitch Trabiskie, who is starting today for the injured Kenny Pickett,
will be on a short lease for Pittsburgh. He also
had the veteran and the guy who's been the third
stringer the whole year, Mason Rudolph. He took increased reps
in practice as well. GOT reports that Kyler Murray has
a chance to recover from his a c L injury
in time for the start of the three season. The
(01:44:57):
timetable anywhere from six to e months for Murray. And then,
as you mentioned, got the World Cup coming up just
about an hour and a half away ten Eastern on Fox.
Argentina faces the defending Champs France again on our Fox station.
And I'll leave you guys with this a little off
the board l A times they announced their high school
(01:45:19):
football player of the Year, de Jon Stanley of Bernada Hills,
coach by one Bucky Brooks. Come about that. I didn't
even know about that. How about that cell cell cell coach?
He is going to the University of Utah Saturday is Wednesday. Wow,
(01:45:41):
that's fantastic. Yea, it should be great. Congratulations coach. Good
Now you gotta blow that page up and having in
the hallway and the building blocks and start doing that
Dante Coulpepper momentum thing of fame. I dig that. Well.
(01:46:04):
You gotta start hey first case and then you build
out from there. At Buckey Brooks where you find him
on Twitter, read him, NFL dot com. Find our guy
Andy fermant at Andy Ferman f s R. And me
if you want to yell at me, I'm over at
Swollen Dome. Uh. We heard in the update from Nick
the quarterback situation for the Steelers. Trabinsky and the short
(01:46:26):
leash thought it was kind of interesting when you had
Deante Johnson's, you know, openly campaigning like it was political season.
From Mason Rudolph. Uh, a guy who's gone with I
think he's setting an NFL record. I think Guinness might
show up as well most targets without a touchdown reception
in a year. Uh. But he has improved on the
(01:46:47):
drops a little bit. But his coach, Mike Tomlin has
the handwringing and lamentation of where we're at in with
regards to player performance, particularly after make of Fitzpatrick had
an interception and and then ran out of bounds. Uh,
instead of putting the game on ice so they could
(01:47:08):
beat the Falcons. Uh. And it's the right thing. Fantasy
owners hate it and all those things. Uh. Here here
was Tom Blinds quote quote ridiculous. We're talking about something
other than winning, whether or not you had the Steelers
defense and the fantasy points that you lost, or the
gambling aspects of overs and unders. On a personal note,
I'm saddened often by the distraction can you play a violin?
(01:47:31):
Often by the distractions that become part of viewing and
enjoying men competing at the highest level of the game
that we all love by fantasy teams and over and underlines.
But coach Tomer, we are talking about winning. It's gambling.
Are you winning? That's it. But you know what, great
great diversion, coach, so you don't have to talk about
your stinking team this year. Great diversion. It's pretty funny,
(01:47:52):
right well, but it's But I love Mike Tomlin, I
really do, no question about it. He's a guy that
it's It's obviously a weird circumstances. You have here pick
it every once in a while as flashes, but you
haven't had any level of consistency. Trabinsky came in and
just tried to wing it around. Well, that did work
out well for anybody. We've seen the run game. With
(01:48:14):
the exception of two or three games this year, it's
been invisible, defensive injuries, all of it conspiring. I mean,
he's heading to that first losing season right after all
of that and and all of that role and and
that's great, But in this particular case, you know, I
understand the vexation and it's a nice obfuscation of reality.
(01:48:36):
But even for him, for players, I always used to
yell this way back in the day before fantasy really
became as accepted as it is. It's certainly gamblings a
whole other thing. Ten years ago on the network referencing
point spreads and totals while doing fantasy commentary, you'd get
a note saying, yeah, yeah, we really shouldn't be doing
that right now. Um, Whereas now it's like, hey, have
(01:48:57):
at it. I mean, we will be followed by on
our our gaming show here countdown to kickoff coming up
in an hour and a half time. But recognizing that
the players, coaches and everybody else, why are the salaries
and the valuations of everything through the roof? That's that's
the only question I would ask coach Tomblin in in
(01:49:18):
terms of, you know, trying to make him remember who
who's buttering the bread. There's there's something to that. The
salaries are kind of crazy, and you have to understand
how that, how you how you getting the money, and
so everyone has to understand, as you said, where the
bread is buttered. And you gotta play, you gotta play nice,
(01:49:38):
you gotta play a long Yeah, I mean TV deals
all stem from interest. Interest comes from where fantasy. You know,
I'm in my playoffs, I'm in the finals in my
Guillotine League, all those funds things. I know you had
to step away, Buckey, but we'll get you back into
one next year, and we're going to rope you in
as well, so we have plenty to yell and and
(01:49:59):
mock each other are about. But but yeah, from Mike
Tomblin here, it's, uh, I don't know, you worry about
your quarterback position and trying to finish the season out strongly.
Uh and moving towards the future player, you think any
players on his team are playing fantasy football? Yeah, of course,
(01:50:20):
I don't know. I won't be so bold as to
say any of them going down the Calvin Ridley side
of things. But let's not be naive in those terms either, right, right,
In this particular case, he was just dumb enough to
get caught, Bucky. I mean, tell tell me I'm right, right, yeah,
I mean like, yeah, I mean, the league is always
(01:50:40):
on monitor, and even if you're doing online betting off
an app like, you have to put all your stuff
in and so uh, it's it's easy to detect. I'll
just say that just always about the walls have ears,
separation and everything else. If you're an NFL player, could
be on the final four. No, I don't think you
can bet on any of those things. You can't know,
(01:51:01):
but on any of this stuff, like they're even limits
in terms of the amount of um the pot when
it comes to fantasy football and those things. Like. It's
just a bad look. And so what they're trying to
do is prevent uh the optics the look of something
funny going on. So I can't if I go to Vegas,
I'm prohibited from going into the sports book. Even if
(01:51:23):
Mike wants to go in place a bit, I can't
walk in with him as an NFL employee. And so
you yeah, but you know they're they're track that if I,
if I, if I, if I give Mike a little
a little handsome insider intel, let them know that such
and such is not is not playing and so all
those things. And so you just have to be very
very careful when you associated with the NFL because no
(01:51:44):
one wants that look. Even though the NFL has decided
to get in bed with uh the books and gambling
and all that, because it is great, it has changed
the way that we talked about it. We now see
gambling lines on TV that never used to be. The
spread was kind of quote unquote for entertainment. Yeah yeah,
well now it was a big part of it. And
(01:52:05):
you can't tell me that the revenue, the increased revenue
is not from people paying attention when it comes to
gambling and the prop bets and all the other stuff
that you can do. Now let me, are you telling
me that an employee of a ball clubing of the
business manager to pr director, they can't be seen at
a race track, a horse track. Paramutual wagering is a
(01:52:26):
different animal, literally literally and figuring. It's a different deal.
But now you can't You can't bet on any sports.
You can't. It's not just football. You can't bet on
the sports. Really, she can't go. You can't go to
the Kentucky Derby. If you can, I can do that,
But you can't like like that stuff is different. You
can't like baseball, football, basketball, horse racing is off on
(01:52:49):
its own thing, which is why paramutual wagering and uh
you know o t vs have been around even where
everything else has been outlawed forever. All right, there you go,
were gonna get We're gonna meet up and go to
an OTV by the way, I think we should. Well,
i'd rather see it in person. Well, I mean, come
on out to Santa Anita. I love that, right, You don't.
(01:53:13):
You don't want to come to southern California. I'm afraid
if I go, I won't leave Hotel California. Either that
or he's gonna lose all his money so he can't
go home. I don't know what. And he was trying
to tell me that he's Andy Furman. That's Bucky Burns
out Mike Carmen. Coming up next, we'll preview a couple
of the games coming up later today. One is you
(01:53:36):
know those legacy last ditch efforts to the other, uh
did a team fold up shop after they fired? And
executive we'll talk about it next year on Fox Welcome
back in Fox Sports Radio. It's Fox Football Sunday. We're
coming to Alive from the tire Act dot Com Studios
on Mike Armen alongside me, Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks. Gentlemen,
(01:53:57):
let's knock out a couple of games, shall we? Yes,
we shall. Let's go do it alright, Charge there it
is we're we're getting the time. I like big voice guy.
If he's gonna do the work, I want to give
him his credit. Uh, we've got the Titans three point
(01:54:19):
underdogs coming to the Chargers and the Titans losers of
three in a row. Bucky you and I we we
had gone through the game thinking, all right, Robinson's gone,
they'll have they'll come together, they'll rally together. Instead they
laid down and got wrought over by Trevor Lawrence. He
did lay down, and I'm gonna go with the charge
(01:54:39):
because here's here's here's why the charges should be ready.
They can see it. They win this game. He puts
them on the path to get its been hurt most
of the year. Now they're getting their weapons back. Keenan Allen,
Mike Williams. Uh, we see what Justin Herbert is able
to do when he has his full compliment of playmakers.
Give me the charges. Now, let's see if they don't
mess it up. Well. I like the Titans. This one
(01:55:00):
that charges nothing good against the run. We know that.
And if they're gonna win, they got to start Derrick Henry.
Henry's do he hasn't done anything in two three weeks
it's gonna be Derrick Henry Show today and they're gonna win.
They're gonna win by a field goal, but they're gonna win. Yeah,
I'm on the side there, sorry, Andy with with Bucky
and this one that the compliments of all those wide
(01:55:21):
receivers coming back helps to offset how bad that offensive
line has been. So justin Herbert stays upright. Little Gerald
Everett is the sneaky fantasy play out of all of that. Oh,
every look at you, well, you know you gotta throw
those in every now and again. All right, let's get
one more game in Bengals that buccaneer. Now we're talking.
(01:55:43):
You want to chaos, let's go Andy. Of course I
will defer to you on this one. Bengals three and
a half point favorites. You're over under, sitting at forty five. Buccaneers,
last gas, last bits of air, the Bengals rolling along.
It seems like a spot with no Vita vea. That
Joe Mix. It might hear his name called a few times. Yeah,
(01:56:05):
it'll be at today. And you know what, you don't
even know who's playing the game because all you hear
all week long is Brady Borrow. That's all you don't
even know that Bengals Bucks. It's Bengals Bucks. Bucks aren't good.
Bengals win their offenses in gear. It's in high gear
right now. They're rolling a lot of options right now.
Even though with the injuries, and we saw with the
injuries when Jamaar Chase was out, the Bengals still performed well.
(01:56:25):
So I think the Bengals win, big win, something like
thirty four to fourteen team. Man, that's a big number.
I'm going to Bengals. I think the Bengals are the
best team in the a f C, and so this
is a chance for them to prove me right. I
think they take care of business against the Buccaneers. I
did my best to try to sell Tampa even with
(01:56:46):
all the travel and other mess last last week, and
they got curb stopped by Brock Purdy. It sounds like
he's straight out of Boogie Nights. By the way, I
don't know that we've made that reference enough. Uh, like
he's hanging out with John c Riley and Walburn. But
we look at the Bengals with full compliment, and after
(01:57:07):
those early struggles of the old line, I mean, the
only the only question here is do they just like
hanging out down and maybe go find Whole Cogan's beat
shop and restaurant. Maybe they get lulled into a false
sense of security. They say that with sarcasm dripping. You know,
this is a good bunch of kids on this Bengals team.
(01:57:28):
I mean, there's no problems. In the years passed, there's
been some bad eggs on this team. I think that
Zach Taylor has not gotten the credit he deserves for
changing the so called culture and bringing in good guys,
not only good football players, but good guys. And it
shows on the field. They're all full one they pull
full one another and they win. And I like seeing that.
There you go, there's your next marketing campaign that you
(01:57:49):
can start for them, Andy with them all dressed up
like musketeers, which would be perfect this week as they
go down to Tampa to take over the pirates ship
at the Buccaneers see it all plays together and so poetic.
I tried to add some value. Uh. And but for
Tom Brady, you guys talked about it earlier. Uh. The
(01:58:11):
likely change of venue just a matter of how many
people have to get into a big game of musical
chairs to make it all happen. Good. Look Tom Tom
Brady is into twilight. It hasn't been his best year,
but it's one of those things. But we're just kinda
see if you can hold on. I just don't see
this team play well. I think they're unachieving in every area.
(01:58:32):
So that's that's why I can't go with him. Well, yeah,
Todd Bowles has gotten he scot free and all of it.
He just keeps pointing going, I don't know. Our leaders
need to do more. No, you need to coach you
know one of how well, how many coaches Tom Brady
is older than in the National Football League. That's it.
There's a trivia question that we'll have to find the
answer to. He's Andy Furman. That's Bucky Brooks on Mike Carmen.
(01:58:54):
Thanks Andy, as always a pleasure. Bucky and I continue
coming up next year on five. Fox Sports Radio has

um and even if you don't, you know, celebrate alongside
(01:59:59):
all of our stended family here listening on Fox Sports Radio.
We appreciate y'all. Bucky rolling along. I mean, you got
your your quarterback that you're following suddenly, uh, growing up,
it seems in front of our eyes these last this
last month. Yeah, Trevor Harris has certainly come on man
play like game busses. Uh. Doug Peterson has done a
(02:00:20):
great job of helping him find his game, and in
doing so, we've seen the talent that everyone was salivating
about when he was playing at Clemson and prior to
him becoming a number one over our pick in that draft,
and he has a lot of confidence. And what we're
seeing is I call it like the next great young
quarterback beginning to take steps. I believe he can. He
(02:00:42):
can model his game after Justin Herbert. I believe that
that is a great cop for him. And if he
can do the stuff that Justin Herbert has been able
to do for the Charges, I think that Jackson with
Jaguars hall be sitting pretty for the next few years. Well,
and that's the beauty of it. I mean, you see
the re emergence of a guy that was once upon
a time thought to be on the us CUSP will
be becoming one of the great tight ends in the league.
(02:01:03):
And Evan Ingram back when he was with the Giants
showed some flashes, but consistency, some injury issues. As you've
seen with Jacksonville. They paid all that money for Christian
Kirk that everybody mocked except this guy. Uh, and I
promptly went and drafted him. And then you started giving
that advice out so I felt even smarter. Uh. And
then Zay Jones, who's come along really nicely. Who's now
(02:01:25):
they're actually actually their leader in receptions As we get
into week fifteen, Uh, is there a chance they catch
the Cowboys nap in a little bit? And looking ahead
to next week, I think the big thing with the Cowboys,
the Cowboys need this when in the Cowboys should be
locked in and focus. The cowboys strengths are really the
(02:01:45):
Jaguard's biggest weaknesses when it comes to the ability to
create explosive plays in the passing game. And they can run,
and they can run with with power and finesse, meaning
is Ell is the power player. Tony Pollitt is a
finesse player. Uh. And then blocking the cow Boys front.
If the Cowboys a focus, it's gonna be a tough
day for the Jaguars, but travel launces to give them
a chance. It just depends on if it on their terms.
(02:02:09):
But it's gonna be rocking in the bank today. I
think they're twenty five thousand Cowboy fans expected to be
in the building, So it'll be interesting to see how
loud it is for the Jags and how loud it
is for the Cowboys. Well, always gotta love when it
feels like a big event, right. Unfortunately, and we've talked
about this and in baseball a my favorite teams of
(02:02:30):
experiences okay, maybe just mine. Uh you know, if you
go eat Dodger Dogs when they're winning a hundred eleven games.
I watched the White side usually as the team that
was the Oh we had a shot at a guy
they signed, uh Ben attending the other day and people
are like, is it real? I'm like, why, why you
gotta mock me like that? Yeah, they actually signed a guy,
(02:02:52):
leave me alone. Uh has all the funny money in
Major League Baseball and has everybody losing their minds, Like
the money's there, TV contracts, everything else is there. So
when they cry poor, everybody should just laugh at them.
But with Jacksonville, I mean, the lowest ticket today right
now on the secondary market for you here, hundred thirty
(02:03:13):
seven bucks. That's the second highest uh in in the
National Football League today behind New England Vegas. That's amazing.
That's amazing. And then not not trailing too far behind
is Cincinnati Tampa. But some excitement there obviously Cowboy fans
(02:03:35):
looking to have a nice little getaway and Jaguars fans
excited about what they've got popping. I I think it's
a fun time for the squad. I'm glad you're there
to to watch that unfold. We'll look for the the
updates of crazy Cowboy fans coming up next week. We're
already four games into this week, Bucky, which is just
(02:03:56):
insane the way these schedules go, now that we add
Saturday games. Back in the Cleveland Baltimore game, all the
weird things justin Tucker and then he tried to stand
up and say that game's on me, and everybody immediately
just called him a lunatic, that he's not his fault link. Well,
the rest of the offense didn't come to play except
(02:04:17):
for J. K. Dobbins, and I have to ask this
question again, owing to my Chicago roots, I'll move from
the White Sox to the Bears. The Bears have always
been called the place where receivers go to die. Uh,
shouldn't the Ravens be up there on the medal stand
with him? They absolutely should, absolutely should be on the
middle stand with the guys. Because you've had a hard
time getting the kind of production outside that you want.
(02:04:40):
We've seen there's a lot of excitement early about Chase Claypool.
Then Uh, Nikio Harry. Now, the Kio Harry was viewed
as a as as a flop in New England before
you went there, but there was a lot of excitement.
There was a three game run where you're like, hey, yeah,
the Bears offense, look at this big body receivers this,
that quarterbacks playing well, and then they end up going
(02:05:00):
right back to the graveyard. So it's really tough for
the Ravens and the barriers to get side. But people
don't talk enough about the Ravens stuff and what is
going on with their passing game. They just can't generate
enough plays outside of Mark Andrews and the tight ends.
They can't get enough plays playmaking from the perimeter. Yeah,
(02:05:22):
and even with Andrews three for thirty one, because I mean,
you know, he's the only option. I mean, this is
basically the boxing one. Uh is stealing from college basketball, Like, okay,
go ahead and Huntley try to beat beat us with
somebody else. And J. K. Dobbins had a fantastic game
thirteen carries a hundred twenty five yards. Good to see
him healthy and to filling a little bit of the
(02:05:45):
the hype as he came out. Gus Edwards also seven
ripped off a twenty five yard run, so you got
what you were hoping for twenty eight carries overall a
hundred ninety eight yards from your run game, but you
got absolutely nothing in terms of a down field weapon.
DeMarcus Robinson had six catches for a total of twenty
nine yards six nine bucky. Meanwhile, meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns
(02:06:13):
get the much needed win to keep there. There's season
uh well on life support. Six and eight, now four
and three at home. Deshaun Watson a hundred sixty one
and touchdown that came off of that uh debacle. Donovan
People's Jones, who has been a nice little run up.
That's another Fantasy guy. We gave you him about a
month ago, so hopefully you listened. Uh and we're looking
(02:06:34):
at him at Daily Fantasy, not monster numbers four for
thirty one. But he did find the end zone. We
talked a lot, and you and Andy Eno talked a
lot about the Colts and Vikings. Minnesota win games. Is
it pretty no? Mike tom would be crying because people
were mad that Minnesota didn't, you know, cover the number
(02:06:55):
because it was three and a half. But they got
the w succeed and pro seed, does uh this debacle
lend anything to the the future and decisions that that
ursall make. Regarding Jeff Saturday, Um, I think so. I
think a lot of it when it comes to coaching
(02:07:17):
hires in those things, it depends on likability when it
comes to the owner in the candidate. Obviously Ersa went
out and actively saw Jeff Saturday, so there was something
there that intrigued him about Saturday being a leader of
the organization. Knowing the connection, and we could say there
was a bad loss, it's a bad loss, it's terrible loss.
(02:07:37):
But do the coach look like they play have performed
better under him than under the predecessor Frank right, And
so if you're Jim er say, you're assessing that, but
then you're also trying to take in, well, what if
I gave him a full training camp and a full
off season to implement it the way that he wanted
to implement it, to give him a full opportunity to
grow into the role as the head coach, Because there's
(02:07:59):
no guarante that if they go and get an experience
candidate that is going to look different. There's some seriousness
is that have to be made when he comes to
their personnel. And so if you are Jim Ursa, you
may look at Jeff Saturday and say, hey, this is
like a preseason for him as a head coach. He
gets eight or nine games to learn how to be
a head coach. So going into maybe his first year
(02:08:22):
on the job, he's better equipped because I would like,
I would say this, and I would say this high
school is different than pros man. You have to learn
how to be a head coach. And the only way
that you can learn how to be a head coaches
with the experience, and that experience has to come in games.
And the more experience that Jeff Saturday gets, hopefully the
better that he will get. But yeah, I think he
has the inside track on the job because the owner
(02:08:44):
wanted him to be the head coach. And so that's
why I think he has a chance. Yeah, to be
geared to see the ross strump people. I mean, because
I saw folks pointing out I was like, well, I
mean they didn't have Jonathan Taylor, right, didn't have Jonathan
Taylor when they built that lead, and they built a
thirty three nothing to lead. He left the game very quickly.
The other is, I mean, how do you have two
(02:09:04):
of the worst quarters in NFL history and back to
back weeks. Yeah, it's it's it's bad and and and
what I'll say is this, and I say, the hardest
thing to do as a newbie is to learn how
to manage the game. Right, So think about this. People
are talking about Jeff Saturday, Nathaniel Hackett, his coach for
the league twenty plus years. He had a problem managing
the game. Outside guy had outside guy. And so managing
(02:09:29):
the game has to do with so much of understanding time, score, situation,
knowing your team and how your team is either battering
through injuries that we on the public don't know, different
situations that are going on the sideline, trying to navigate
those things by managing the game. And you only get
better at those things by being placed in those situations. Um,
(02:09:49):
I think they mismanaged the game, not even even with
the turnovers and things they went back. I don't think
they manage to clock will in terms of hey, let's
run the ball. This makes sure we drain it, take
it all the way down to one second every time.
Let's let's cut the Minnesota Vikings opportunity Firth quarter going
into the fourth quarter. I was like, Man, I don't
(02:10:10):
think there's enough time for the Vikings to get back
because I'm like, unless the coats helped him, and they
helped Oh, and they helped him at every turn, right,
I mean, we we've watched it so much this year,
and maybe we're paying more attention to it. Would that
be fair to say, Bucky, because it seems like we're
at we're at crisis mode in many of these on
(02:10:30):
many of these sidelines in terms of just that running
running the clock down to one or two seconds instead
of snapping the ball with twelve left. I get it.
You want to get up to the line. You want
to make sure you're not adding to the potential stressors,
especially if you're working with a young offensive lineman and
whatever else you're saying, all right, we got something going.
(02:10:50):
It's like you still want to drain the clock. And
there's really no excuse just in the way an NFL
game flows that they's should have had time to do
what Patrick Peterson charged Kirk Cousins and go and do,
which was score five touchdowns. Uh. They It wasn't anything
complex or complicated about it. All you have to do
(02:11:12):
is I shouldn't say all you have to do. Exec
Execution is everything, but like my execution is everything, like
prose or whatever. Like they simply execute, they take care
of it. If Dean Jackson doesn't fumble the ball, they
give them the ball right there. They don't have an
opportunity if they don't have some of these silly penalties
that they had either either personal files, uh prs all
(02:11:37):
this other stuff that they did. Like it. It's a
game where they had to lose the game more than
the Minnesota Vikings had to go win it, and they
found a way to lose. Captain Kirk and company. The
Year of Living Dangerously now eleven and three, seven and
one at home. On this campaign, we'll talk about another
NFC team they'll be playing on Monday night, and have
(02:12:01):
they found a quarterback that maybe we want to give
a longer look at, maybe resurrecting. Maybe he's a fantasy
hero for you here in the Fantasy Playoffs chaos ensues
Week fifteen. National Football League will continue it here. He's
Bucky Brooks on Mike Harmen. This is Fox Football Sunday. Hey,
welcome back in Fox Football Sunday Live for the tire
(02:12:22):
Act dot Com Studios Mike Carmen alongside Bucky Brooks with you.
So we get ready forty minutes from now World Cup
final kickoff age or beauty, depending how you wanna look
at it. You got messy versus mbope. Insert all your
hands and jokes here. They've all been run, so you're
not coming up with anything original, But we have those nonetheless.
(02:12:46):
Now we love headlines and and looking for stories as
we get ready for the show, and we've got two
from the New York Post over the last twenty four hours.
Bucky related to two quarterbacks. Now, you and Andy had
a deep dive in the wonderful world of the Jets
versus the Lions. There's for the Jets quote Zack attack
(02:13:06):
returning QB fed the Lions today. That's pretty good. Ready,
ready for the other one for Sunday Night Football. About
Dan time, Daniel Jones, Let's go h time. A couple
of weeks ago, we had a tie, both quarterbacks kind
(02:13:30):
of trying to prove they belong. I'll let you choose
your own adventure as to which one you think is
more fascinating. I think more fascinated with Zach Wilson. And
this is why no one in the building believes that
Zach Wilson is dedute. But yet today we gotta pretend
that Zach Wilson is gonna give us a chance to win.
Robert Salom really tried to sell it. Doesn't the guy
(02:13:51):
that went eighteen eighteen that game, right, that's when you
know when you have to dig get to your college statistics.
That's when you know you don't have any hands were
a proof that he can be the guy. And so
everyone we've seen the team, the team is rather behind
Mike White. They're wearing Mike White T shirts. They keep
speaking uh positively and favorably about Mike White. Mike White
(02:14:11):
us to do. So what we have to uh figure
out is how can Zach Wilson walk into the huddle
and say, all right, guys, here we go and everyone
looking at and be like, that's right, Zach, we're riding
with you. Offensive lineman. The wide receivers. Everyone has to
be leaving his talent. Man, he's on the island today
and maybe he can overcome it. But the team is
(02:14:33):
already looking at him side at like, oh my gosh,
we got this guy today. Just just watch the reactions
to the wide receivers if he dirts the ball if
he throws it over their head or whatever. Let's just
see if they have a more visible reaction than the
reaction that they've had with Mike Mike White. Well, I mean,
we certainly saw the lineman the last time, Zach Wilson.
(02:14:54):
We're out there, right, they're all gesturing and throwing their
arms up after working through him extending a play and
then eventually just throwing the ball out of mounds or
not trying to make plays with his legs extend plays
at times. Uh, I would be remiss if I didn't
know that it was the famous Idaho Potato Bowl of
(02:15:18):
that Robert Salo was trying to go to. Yeah, famous, Look,
his famous Ido Potato Bowl was big, big bowl of
a big deal in fact, in fact is a big game.
I don't know if it's today, but the San Jose
State Spartans are playing in the Idaho Potato Bowl. So
another famous deal. Maybe we'll see another NFL quarterback used
that as a launching point for a great career. Look
(02:15:40):
at that busting out the Spartans of San Jose State.
I did see Josh Ellen in the Potato Bowl. I
did see Jos in the Potato Bowl. See like, so
it could be it might be a breed NFL quarterback. Yeah,
everybody's got an origin story, right, and then we love
them when it comes to our superheroes. So why not
(02:16:01):
you know some of these quarterbacks where they played in
in I don't want to call them lesser Bowls because
they're important to those schools. They're important to the alums,
they're important to the bottom line of television networks and
and and those athletic programs nationwide. Even if you don't
like him anymore, because there's a playoff, damn it, someone's
gonna watch them all. Yeah, somebody. There's still somebody's baby.
(02:16:25):
As the saying always goes, But look, you're you're coaching,
structuring an offense. You've got your running back, uh, you know,
featured in the l A Times headed to Utah. You
got Zack Wilson. He's had a couple of weeks too. Well,
why don't you go in the corner and think about
what you did. That's right, I went Taylor Swift on
you at six six Pacific time. Um, he had his
(02:16:49):
time to do the maya culpa? What do you what
do you do to try to get the offense started
with him today? Is it a bunch of Tyler Conklin early,
some short passes, maybe a bubble screen or two for
Garrett Wilson to get his legs churning. How are you
getting Zach Wilson comfortable or as comfortable as Zach Wilson
could be. I am talking to Zach Wilson directly. What
(02:17:13):
are your favorite place? Tell me your five favorite passing
place that you feel like you know him like the
back of your hand. You feel very comfortable when we
to come into play. Call those things, and then I'm
building it out from there. I want to put a
heavy emphasis on the running game, but I want to
do things in the passing game where Zach Wilson is
absolutely comfortable. He knows all the reads from A to C.
We can get through it and he can make completions.
(02:17:36):
And I'm gonna put more on this. I'm gonna have
a very old transparent conversation with the defense. Hey, you
know what it is, Zach is playing. We gotta make
sure we support him the way we can support him.
We need to make plays, create turnovers, those things. Uh,
that's that's what it has to be. It has Yeah,
you want to start with the things that Zach feels
like he does the best, and you just want to
recycle it a million different ways. All right, So let's
(02:17:59):
flip that at other game really quickly. Here, we've got
the Giants and Commanders. A couple of weeks ago they
tied seven five and one Bolt squads Giants a little
better against the number. Uh, Giants are four and a
half point underdogs in this one. The over under at
a robust forty and a half. We've seen the Commander's
(02:18:19):
scary Terry and and Heinekey and and a little Brian
Robinson going a long way. Another game without Chase Young.
It's starting to feel like my my mom's old quote
when I get to go see down in Florida this week, Uh,
the old I'm gonna save it for good. Like, at
some point, don't you have to make a decision on
this guy. Let's keep kicking that can down the road.
(02:18:41):
At some point you do have to make a decision.
I don't know is gonna be made, but at some
point you have to make because we we've now had
he might be ready next week. Six weeks in a row.
You came planning, wishing, wanting, hope and it's like, hey,
put a placeholder in for him. Uh, and then we'll
go from there on Thursday and Friday. If he can't go, Yeah,
(02:19:02):
I think you're just you're just trying to do it.
I don't know what the thing is, what's the deciding
factor when it comes to when he plays and when
he doesn't play. But it is tough, but I will
say in a national football league, you have to get
used to dealing with the uncertainty. Uh. You never know
who's gonna be available. You have to operate. And people
talk about this is kind of funny, next man up,
next man up. We got the next man up mentality. Yeah,
(02:19:25):
it's different though when the next man is that like
the first man. No, but yes, you got a guy
that's trying to fill the suit. Maybe he's got an
extra couple of pounds on him or whatever, and that
button don't late, right. I mean, this isn't the San
Francisco offense where you got a bunch of stars all
over the place and then the quarterback and look pretties
better than just the Johnny Bravo fit. The suit showing
(02:19:48):
my age with my Brady Bunch references, but the the
idea that, at least initially, even with guys that eventually
had losing records or were quote unquote exposed as less
than Shanahan was always able to coax a little bit
of performance. Now it's a question of out of these squads,
what are you getting? Like? What can Brian Table do
(02:20:09):
At this point Louis losers of three of their last
four and the only non loss was to tie against Washington.
The only thing he can do is try and find
somebody that's better on the street, and he can't do that. Uh.
He's done a great job of what we say, getting
butter out of a duck this year. He's got more
wins out of this team than anybody expect the season,
(02:20:31):
and he was able to get it by playing a
style where they made the other team win the game,
meaning they were really good early in the year of
owning the DPOs. They didn't beat themselves, they didn't turn
it over, they were low penalized team. Uh, they didn't
give up big plays on defense, and they made you
drive the nuts of the field and the odabacks his
(02:20:52):
drive eighty yards and more or have to score on
ten plays and more that they will mess up and
the Jatts were able to do that. What happens is
in some of these games against better teams, the talent disparity,
the the lack of talent that the Giants have prevents
it from winning these games. They're just not talented enough
to be able to win it. And and and so
(02:21:13):
that's where you're sitting. And so you just a little
bit behind, and you just can't can't get it done.
And so that's why they haven't been able to win
the last few weeks. Kwan over a thousand yards on
the year four point three per carry, UH tied for
tenth with eight touchdowns, but five of his last six
games sixty three rushing yards or fewer. And in the
(02:21:35):
receiving game, the season high goes all the way back
to Week three against the Cowboys, when he had forty
five receiving yards. So even though he's got forty two receptions,
only at two sixty one yards for the year, not
being able to find the jail break opportunities as we've
seen so many other teams successful at doing with their
running backs out of the backfield. Fun NFC East Battle.
(02:21:58):
That'll be Sunday Night Football, all standalone game, UH and
maybe you want to start some paint at the top
of the wall and see if it drives before you
lose interest in the football game. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm
like Carmen here Fox Sports Radio. Uh, look, that last
game was painful towards the end. But you know, when
you're playing for a tie and you actually start playing
(02:22:19):
for a tie, we all lose. Remember love he sent
back in week one, Man, and that he that he
played to lose against the Cowboys. Yeah, you're right saying,
can I knock what you're saying? Killing me? Man? You
had it up a chance to take him down, and
you left the door wide open. At Bucky Brooks where
(02:22:42):
you find him, Read him NFL dot Com, see him
Fox Boards, one c M, NFL Network. He's got the
podcast with Daniel Jeremiah. Of course here every Sunday with
Andy Ferman and with me here on Fox Football Sunday.
We appreciate you all being part of the extended family.
Now we're gonna kick it over to Isaac Low and
crow On, who might have a soccer update. But I
(02:23:02):
know he certainly has some active, inactive notes for us.
What's going on? Well, let's check and see if we
have anything going on in soccer. Soccer breakdown in three
there is to what ding ding ding, that's the last
day I'm ever gonna be able to play that for
four years. But no, I'd be running that every week.
That's true. I mean we do have Premier League games.
(02:23:23):
There you go. There's a way to do it. Thank you.
I got I gotta scratch my itch. Four soccer breakdown
in three to one and the countdown is indeed on
because kicking off at the top of the hour the
World Cup final between Argentina and France. France trying to
become the first repeat World Cup champion since Brazil in
(02:23:44):
nineteen sixty two. It's also a clash of superstars and
Argentina's Leonel Messi and Frances Killian had to do it,
didn't hear. Yep, it's Killian imbob Oh. That's very good.
(02:24:08):
That's a that's a good pull in your own right.
Speaking of pulling, the Buffalo Bills pulled down a playoff
spot on Saturday night in the NFL. They were tied
with the Miami Dolphins at twenty nine and the final
seconds when Tyler Bass came on to attempt a twenty
five yard field goal to win it. Here was John
Murphy on w g R. The win ends in the ballance.
(02:24:29):
The snappers good, the hold is good, the kicks up,
the kick is it is gun. The fireworks go off,
the Bills go back to the playoffs from the second
of year. This crowd is going crazy. In the NBA
Saturday Night, Devin Booker went crazy. Fifty eight points is
his Phoenix Sons Rallied from twenty four down in the
(02:24:50):
third quarter to beat the New Orleans Pelicans one eighteen
to one fourteen. And how about this in college football
on Saturday evening, Southern Mrs Frank Gore Junior ran for
an n c double, a bowl record three hundred and
twenty nine yards and a thirty four victory over Rice
in the Lending Tree Bowl. Fellas back to you, thanks Hallo.
(02:25:13):
You know, there's two stories that are certainly that's one
of them, between that and John Moran talking to a
fan and getting thrown out because he was questioning the
integrity of the official like a private conversation. You see
yourself out of this one. But the fact that we've
got Frank Gore Jr. Running him UK in a college
(02:25:34):
bowl game as his dad. I don't even know if
he's actually filed paper. His dad was on the sideline. Um,
it was great to watch, Like Frank Gore Jr's legit,
I mean, why wouldn't he be He had bloodlines, UH
to run for over three hundred yards and the way
that he did a very fish I think that was
most impressive. UH As watching him operate as a wildcat quarterback,
(02:25:57):
throwing testdown passes, UH, being able to make plays and
do it in a variety of different ways. And the
thing is he's only a sophomore, so he has another
year to continue to work in his game, probably before
he makes his way to the National Football League. But
exciting player, terrific play, a great balance and body control.
He got all the tools when he checks off a
lot of boxes just doing TV scouting, he checks off
(02:26:20):
a lot of boxes as a feature back. Well, there
you go. I'll put him on my draft list in
my dynasty league for a year. Hence I'll see, you
have to let me draft him this year just so
I can get ahead of the curve. But we look
at the last game on this slate, Monday Night Football
Rams ODD with the huge win that they got shot
(02:26:40):
in the arm, that big drive from Baker Mayfield ninety
eight yards and the thing that you know you will
still we'll have a movie made by Disney at some
point about it. But you have the the Packers on
the other side with with Aaron Rodgers, Weather is going
to be miserable and to stand loan game. Packers are
(02:27:01):
a touchdown plus favorite seven and a half. The last
I saw Rams with a ton of injuries, but Mayfield
with that drive, you start looking at at the future
here Bucky and I know it's it's always dangerous on
a very short sample size, particularly with how little he
had been in the room, but with a lot of
(02:27:22):
questions about Matthew Stafford's health. They talk here in Los
Angeles anywhere you turned was is this going to be
the guy? And you know I was asked about it
a botch it. I just shrugged and said, I don't
see why you wouldn't give him a shot on a
minimal deal to come and fight. Well, he certainly earned that.
(02:27:43):
He has a couple of things going for him. Once.
McVeigh has already always been intrigued, and so that means well,
always he's always seen Baker in a favorable light. In
terms of, well, maybe he can't be our guy, and
and and so that's that's that's a legitimate deal. The
other thing is the offense that he's playing is very
(02:28:06):
similar to the offense that he played in Cleveland where
he enjoyed his greatest success. Now the very levels of success,
but varying success. And I've always said this about this
offense to Kyle Shanahan system that Sean McVeigh has tweaked
and run and you're looking at Kevin o'conmen what he's
doing with Kirk Cousins. The system can turn average players
(02:28:28):
and the pro bowlers. It can turn pro bowlers into
m v p s. See Matt Ryan, see the way
that Jared Goff is going from average to pro bowlers.
See Kirk Cousins go from average to pro bowler. So
wherever Baker Mayfield falls in that equation, average, slightly below average,
or whatever, the system can elevate him to an all
(02:28:49):
star level, provided common and provided that he has the
discipline to stay within the system. Well, we saw in
that brief appearance against the Raiders he played within himself
with limited exposure to the system and play well. Sean
McVeigh as a good office of coordinator can build upon
what Baker displayed and put him in a situation where
(02:29:09):
he never plays to his weaknesses. He's always playning to
his stress. So yeah, I would be optimistic that it
could work out. You got him right now, because who
else is going to get him a starting opportunity. He's
been traded once cut by the Panthers. This might be
his last right as a starting quarterback. Baker, Mayfield and
Sean McVeigh may see this as a mutual beneficial situation. Well,
(02:29:31):
in the game of Musical Chairs, right, we talked about Brady.
You look at Las Vegas and what Derek Carr is. Uh.
If Tyler Huntley hadn't had the game he had, you
might have had some discussions in Baltimore about what to do,
you know, franchise and trade Lamar or whatever the case
might be. Man musical chairs. Not to mention all the
(02:29:52):
rookies coming in, I've long been a guy that I
don't feel like if you've got a guy on the
roster that the rookie has to play, I'm I'm not
of that. If it's gonna behoove them to learn for
a year and grade. But Baker certainly in cheap play
for this year and with the future stafford in question.
From some reports he was actually on the headset with
(02:30:13):
Baker helping him through that final sequencing as well. Well,
I mean that's a part of it. That's that's that's
what that's the secret, sauce. I mean, using technology to
your advantage the the so people that know the communication
device does not go off into fifteen sex and left
on the play clock. So early in mcvey's tenure when
(02:30:34):
he had Jerry Goff, they were operated a fast tempo
get to the line of scrimmage and in sha McVeigh
could walk Jerry Golf through some of the things to
look for, give them tips, remind us alerts, tell them hey,
this is what covers your in YadA, YadA YadA. There
was a lot of conversation around that because people felt
it made Jerry Golf feel like he was an inferior
(02:30:56):
quarterback or quarterback ill equipped to be able to handle them.
Whereas I talk to us, Hey, man, if I'm a
coach and I can gain a competitive advantage, I do
everything to give myself a competitive advantage to get my
players to play at a higher level. Right I don't
care about the quarterbacks ego. It's like everybody that gets
all up in arms, going, well, if they send me
to the bench, they're gonna rut them. Well, if they're
gonna rule them, then he ain't your guy. He's not
(02:31:17):
your guy. And so I thought Sean McVey did a
great job of utilizing the stuff that was available to
him to get the player to play at a higher level.
And so he did that with Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield
played great. And so if I'm Sean McVey, I continue
to do that. Uh, I don't know how this was
for your daughter necessarily being on the field and soccer, right,
but in football, when you start playing at the lower levels, Uh,
(02:31:39):
the coaches on the field. So he's in the huddle,
he says the hole, but then he stands behind there.
So people don't like the fact that maybe Sean McVeigh
is doing what we called a little league tactic by
basically a little bit of coach pitch kind of thing
going on. Here. Look, coach fits little Hey, you know
what we're gonna do. We We're gonna let you coach fit.
And then after the third if we're gonna put it
(02:32:00):
on the te so, so that's what they're doing. But
if it helps the quarterback play at a high level,
at the end of the day, it's a bottom line business.
I care about the results, not necessarily the whole process
in which Baker Mayfield has to get a particularly at
this stage of uh the season. But like with all
of it, right, if the rules are fifteen seconds, I mean,
(02:32:21):
if some of the leaders of the free world want
to jump on the microphone and offer some advice that
can help a guy who cares, right, I mean, and
and if you're a quarterback and say, well, no, I
got this. All right, let's let's see if you got it.
If you're Baker Mayfield, I would like to think you've
been humbled enough that you're asking for help from wherever
you can find it. Why not? Why not? Why not
(02:32:43):
take the help? Why not take the tutoring. At the
end of the day, I want to make sure that
I win, because if I'm Baker Mayfield and I win,
I get a big con contract with more wins, and
then I eventually become a Pro Bowl player. Now I
get more commas on the contract. So if I'm Baking
Mayfield at this point, I don't care what in my
ear to win games, I'll try more commas. That's the key.
(02:33:07):
I think that's the slogan unofficially or maybe officially for
the show in more Commas. Not absolutely right at Bucky
Brooks where you find him on Twitter, find me over
at Swollen Dome. As we come to you live from
the Tire Act dot Com Studios. I've got a number
that will be a bit staggering. I can't wait to
(02:33:29):
get Bucky's reaction as we talk about it next year
on Fox Football Sunday. Great Eggs, welcome back in Fox
Football Sunday. Thanks to the crew making us sound so pretty.
As Chris Perfett changes up on his times here, he's
Fox Sports Radio, he'll still be here, He'll still be
checking in. And let's face it, everybody comes back to
(02:33:50):
this slot at some point. It's always a game of
well musical chairs as we go. Bucky, you know this,
I know this. We've been here a minute, so we
appreciate everything Chris has done for the show. Mark is
getting it, uh and he's getting settled in nice and
and and rolling along. Coming up in ten minutes from now,
we've got countdown to kick off, rolling through with Jeff
(02:34:13):
and Bill and Brian, you want to hang out and
we'll follow the live betting of the World Cup no
question as that kicks off, and also three hours of
injury updates and deep dives into each of the games
for the remaining slate of Week fifteen of your National
Football League. Bucky I had a staggering stat that was
(02:34:34):
put up from Adam Shafter and it's something that we
can all track, but at some point you just kind
of shake your head and move move along, just kind
of like the free agent signings in Major League Baseball.
It's all right, there's another three hundred, there's another thirteen years,
all that fun stuff. Uh NFL officials informed the owners
of the thirty two franchises that over the past five
(02:34:57):
years fired coaches and front off fix executives, they've spent
eight hundred million dollars. And we've been talking a lot
about the next round of of firings hirings in in
the National Football League. Right what's gonna happen in Indianapolis,
(02:35:18):
what's gonna happen with Denver, what's gonna happen with Las Vegas.
And notice you've got a couple of teams right there Uh,
that have had recent change outs and large payouts and
whatever is real versus imagined, and the rumored money that
John Gruden was getting and was still owed lawsuits, etcetera.
(02:35:38):
But the Panthers getting rid of Matt Rule when he
still had um four years left on his deal, etcetera. Uh,
just some staggering numbers. But when when it's all said
and done, with the amount of money that's flowing in
off TV revenue and the continued expansion thereof Bucky, I mean,
there's no incentive to change if if you're ready to
(02:36:00):
move and the feeling in the room is that you've
got to move on from a coach or a coordinator
or executive. I I like the cautionary tale and putting
up a big flashing towdboard like it's a telethon, But
I don't see it change in the business at all. Now.
I don't think it should change is the business. I
think you have to understand if you're an owner, you
(02:36:22):
have to have deep pockets to get into this game.
And if you can get into the game and you
want to constantly switch and change your coach, is gonna
be a very expensive deal. And so that's why the
hiring process buttoned up, so you hire good people and
you give them the full opportunity to be able to
do their their their job. And when you think about it,
people talk about these three and five and six year
(02:36:44):
deals that the coaches are signing. Well, if you're an
owner and you don't want to have to spend a
lot of extra money, that you need to give them
the five or six years to be able to get
it done. And you have to have enough strength to
deal with the incoming from the fans and the outside
of that are seeing he has to go after one year. No,
if you hired him, you have to give him an
(02:37:05):
opportunity to do his job. And I think if you're
talking about the money, the money suggests that people aren't
giving guys the full opportunity to complete the job or
her task at hand. Yeah, I I The underlying part
to it, right is the micro wave UH style that
we've had right especially, I would imagine one of the
hot button topics is going back to Carolina, the job
(02:37:26):
Steve Wilkes has done over the last six six weeks
or so, and remembering how his tenure in Arizona was
anything but right. I wish Steve came all the best.
I hope he's okay right taking a leave of absence
and all that. But we we've watched how the processes
have gone down there, and that's from ownership all the
(02:37:47):
way down. That's just been a disaster. And I think
your your point with not expecting things to change in
a year is app The problem is the echo chamber
is loud, and those owners meetings, I gotta imagine the
trash talking is absolutely brutal. It is um I would
(02:38:07):
say this about Steve Wills in the situate in Arizona.
I think that's a great example. Steve Wills got one
year to do his job, and much like I was
