Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports living the dream once again
here on a fabulous NFL Sunday. Happy New Year, everyone,
buckle up, we get ready for a very big day
around the National Football Late broadcasting live from the tire
iraq dot com studios, ti rack dot com. We're gonna

(00:22):
help get you there and I'm at selection fast re
shipping free road has a protection over ten thousand recommended installers.
Ti irac dot com the way tire by and should
be Richie. Happy New Year, my friend. Here we are
in tree. Are you ready for nine games about to
kick off around the NFL. I can't wait. What a

(00:44):
way to ring in the new year. With a lot
of divisions being decided today, a lot of excitement around
the NFL. This is uh, this is good, especially after
the college football semifinal last night. Both games tse you
getting the win in a nail biter and then obviously
the final os U failed field goal attempt to send

(01:06):
Georgia to the National Championships. So we have Bulldogs horned
Frogs coming up in a week's time. Yeah, after years
and years of lousy semis, we've got two unbelievable games.
Let's hope we get some of that today. In the NFL,
here's a rundown. The game's kicking off right now. Cardinals
on the road against the Falcons, Dog game, Bears at

(01:26):
the Lions, Lions need to win. Broncos at the Chiefs.
Chiefs need to win if they want to get that
one seed. Dolphins at Patriots, both teams in the playoff mix,
Colts at Giants, Giants need to win. Saints at the Eagles,
Saints trying to keep their fate playoff hopes. A lie
Browns at the Commander's big game for the Commanders. They
need that one. Also, we've got Broncos. We mentioned that game.

(01:49):
Let's see here. Jaguars at the Texans. That is a
huge game, Rich, This is a game, of course we're
with the Titans losing on Thursday, Jaguars can take sole
possession of first place in the a f C South,
although even if they win today, the Jags will still
have to beat Tennessee next week in order to get

(02:09):
into the playoffs. As you mentioned, a lot of big games. Also,
we got Tampa Bay taken on the Carolina Panthers. And
it's unbelievable, Rich that we are sitting here right now,
with the Panthers at six and nine, and they controlled
their own destiny. Win at Tampa this week, win at
New Orleans next week, and the Carolina Panthers, who fired

(02:32):
their coach, jettison their top player, would find themselves hosting
a playoff game. Sort of encompasses how crazy this now
twenty three season has been. Oh absolutely, I mean, and
during that time they've had how many starting quarterbacks is
a four on the season. They're back to Sam Donald,

(02:53):
who just threw a twenty six yards strike to d J.
Moore to get started here today against the Buccaneers d defense.
I mean, this is this is one of those one
of those seasons where if they end up winning this division.
I mean, Steve Wilkes, you can make an argument that

(03:13):
he should be Coach of the Year. Like there's a
lot of those out there. Um, you know, it's interesting
we mentioned I mean, who would have thought, you know,
at this point of the season that the Carolina Panthers
and the Jacksonville Jaguars would control their own playoff destiny.
I think Doug Peterson, what he's done in Jacksonville this year,
uh is nothing short remarkable. This is a team that

(03:34):
had the number one overall pick in the draft the
last two years, uh and was such a messy year
ago with that hiring. I mentioned the fact that we
ever seen a franchise have the worst coaching higher one
year and the best coaching higher the very next year.
Urban Meyer horrific hiring. Doug Peterson brilliant hiring in consecutive

(03:58):
years for the Jacksonville j Gaguars. I don't think so,
you know, I'm really trying. I'm sort of Usually a
team has a bad higher just you know, continues to
do bad highers. They went from the worst possible higher
in Urban Meyer to really the best possible higher for
that team in that quarterback uh In Doug Peterson. Yeah, Doug,
Doug Peterson. Also, I don't think he got enough credit

(04:21):
for everything that he got a COMPLI Philadelphia, And I
remember saying that last year, um when when he sort
of missed that round of the coaching carousel, and the
Jacksonville Jaguars are just lucky that a coach of his
caliber was floating out there in the ether and was
willing to come to Jacksonville. And a lot of it
had to do with even as bad as it went

(04:42):
for that entire team with urban Meyer helming the Jags.
He saw a future in Trevor Lawrence. If you don't
draft Trevor Lawrence, then Doug Peterson doesn't become your coach,
and then you don't have a chance potentially to make
the playoff run that they're embarking on today looking for
a win against the Texans. By the way, yesterday we

(05:05):
watched a couple of quarterbacks that are going into the
draft uh this upcoming season. A lot of people were
surprised that Bryce Young would even play a meaningless game
for Alabama. He was brilliant. Five touchdown passes. And if
there were any doubts about c J. Stroud, oh they're gone.
I need he carved up a defense that was giving

(05:28):
up less than third team points per game. They could
not stop him. You know, he loses his tight end,
He loses Harrison for the entire fourth quarter. C J. Stroud,
if you didn't respect that guy going in, I mean,
I will levis really Kentucky, by the way, sat out
his game against Iowa. I don't think so. If I
have an opportunity, let's see. You know, Seattle's got Denver's

(05:50):
pick right and probably around number three overall, looks like
it's gonna be the Texans. They'll take Bryce. Young Bears
don't need a quarterback. If I'm Seattle, I'm all over
c J. Strout, all over him. And I've got you know,
I've got a veteran quarterback, right, Gino Smith, hold me
over for you. I don't have to rush him in So,
but I I didn't know about c J. Strout. What

(06:12):
I saw yesterday phenomenal, phenomenal touchdowns. He had another thirty
four year yards on the ground, didn't turn the ball
over once, whether it be by fumbling or throwing interceptions.
He was brilliant is the worst. I mean, I was
blown away. I knew he was good, but against that defense.

(06:33):
Uh So, it was an incredible day in college football.
Still waiting for our first score of the day. Um,
we've got a lot of playoffs scenarios here this game
between the Dolphins and the Patriots, And what did you
make of this story? We have a touchdown. We have
a touchdown. It's courtesy of the Carolina Panthers on their
opening drive, Tommy Tremble into the end zone. Man a man, Carolina,

(06:57):
they control their audacity. Now they have to eat you know,
the Bucks on the road today and the Saints on
the road next week. But yeah, Steve wilkeson a pretty
good job keeping this team together. Seventeen yard touchdown reception,
like you said, to tremble the tight end, and Sam
Donald and this team just went down the field. He
was a perfect four four on the drive, sixty yards

(07:19):
through the air. I mean, after all the dust is settled,
Sam Donald played pretty good last week. I mean, if
he leads this team into the playoffs, well, let's let's
face it. One of the things that we know about
the NFL is there's a lot of coaches that have
a lot more belief in you when you can get
it done. Like you said, c J. Strowd, we're just
talking about him. That's a big game, that's a semifinal game,

(07:42):
and to have one arguably one of the biggest games
of your career, even setting up the last minute field
goal attempt and doing everything he could to get this
team a chance of winning this game. That's what teams
are looking for. So Sam Donald finds a way to
lead this team out of the seller into the playoffs,
and then he helps him win a game potentially, Oh

(08:04):
forget about it. Somebody. Somebody's gonna either a be looking
for Sam Donald or be he's gonna be looking for
a lot of money to play his next contract in
the NFL. Alright, I was gonna ask you about the
whole to a tongue of la situation, there was. Of course,
he was horrific in that collapse by Miami, who now
is staggering on a four game losing streak. You know,

(08:27):
they have been a streak team all season long, but
all those disastrous interceptions laid against the Packers, and then
he shows up for meetings on Monday and he tells
the coach, I can't focus right now, and so suddenly
he's in concussion protocol and Teddy Bridgewater is in a
quarterback in what has become a must game. I mean,
this has been a collapse by the Miami Dolphins. We

(08:49):
were conceding this team a playoff spot. They lose at
New England. Today they're in deep trouble. Oh yeah, yeah.
And that is a scary situation from just a health
standpoint for to a tongue of LAA. You know, when
you have a quarterback who has sustained the sort of
brain trauma that he sustained this season. The conversation starts

(09:11):
to diverge from hey, are we gonna have to a
healthy for a playoff run, and it starts entering the
realm of, hey, should this guy keep doing this like
it's it's um It's an uncomfortable space that the NFL
exists in, because, look, this isn't prize fighting, where you
you fight, you have a six month layoff before the

(09:33):
next time you really expose yourself to that level of
head trauma or UFC fighting. You get kode. You know
you may have three, four or five six months to
recover from your last fight. The NFL, you have to
be ready to go next week, and if you can't,
you're letting a lot of people down. And they understand,
trust me, they understand. Everybody gets injured in the NFL's

(09:54):
teammates aren't upset with him. But we're getting close to
the point where, since this has been a repetitive injury situation,
it's getting scary a little bit. Steve, we have our
first score of the day. Seven step drop hass time
throws complete touchdown right side. It's Tommy Tremble all right.
That the Fox Panthers radio network first score of the day.

(10:18):
Panthers on the road against the Bucks. Extra point is good.
Nine to go in the first quarter. All right, we're
just getting started here. As we mentioned, we have nine
games going on right now. How do you keep tracking
nine games simultaneously. It's simple, keep it right here on
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio,

(10:42):
and we've got the place that you may have missed.
Checko gets it behind the right guard, pushes in near
the one now grinding, driving, driving, but Checko touchdown. Chance
City the offensive line, make sure put Checko gets the
rushing touchdown to Stu in the first drive of the game.
Now back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio.

(11:07):
This is Fox Red Zone Radio. That is one of
six point five the Wolf and the Chiefs radio network.
That didn't take long. Chief's up six, not the over
the Broncos. They went for two, did not get the
two point conversion, so six nothing Chiefs early on in
the first quarter against the Broncos. Welcome back. This is

(11:29):
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We are live from the
tire Rack dot Com Studio's got a little action going
on right now. A couple of games though that have
playoff implications for both teams, the Buccaneers Panthers also the Patriots.
Dolphins are rich your former team, the Pats right now,
the third and two at the Miami sixteen yard line. Uh.
You know, it's it's been a very difficult year offensively

(11:52):
for this Patriots team, to say the least. Really, they
don't have a qualified offensive coordinator and mac Joness regrets
from the quarterback that we saw a year ago. And
despite all of that, they still have a chance to
make the postseason. Yeah, yeah, they do. Look I mean,
if there's one thing that we all have known about
New England, uh during the Belichick rain, and you could

(12:15):
argue that Tom Brady era as well, is the fact
that you can never factor them out. Um, and and
that's only continued. I understand they had the gap year
with Cam Newton, that was the season with Covid, and
nobody really knew what that season was going to end
up looking like. But even at times in that season
there was playoff buzz, it never really got to a

(12:39):
fevered pitch. But since then, Mac Jones obviously able to
guide the ship into the postseason last year and this year,
even with the wheels feeling like they were coming off
at times they've got a chance. This is a well
coached team Situationally, they typically do the things that they're
supposed to do correctly to win football games. Outside of

(12:59):
that rid uriculous play at the end of the Raiders
game by Rumandre Stephenson and Jacoby Myers to set up
the uh the fumble return for a touchdown by Chandler Jones,
this is a team that's usually hemmed up pretty tight,
so I expect to see them give the Miami Dolphins
all they can handle today, especially with their starting quarterback
on the sideline. Another team trying to find a way

(13:21):
in the postseason the Detroit Lions. They had their winning
streak snap last week and an embarrassing loss to Panthers,
a Panther's team that rolled up five hundred and seventy
total yards on that hapless Lions defense. Jared Goffs had
an outstanding season. He hasn't done anything wrong. The Lions
offense has done something special this year, but defensively Rich

(13:43):
I mean what happened last week against Carolina. And by
the way, speaking of the Lions, they're in the early
hole against the Bears. Justin Fields Hodur center man emotion
play fake setting up the throw looking right wide open,
Comet turns up at the five to the end zone.
He claus through a Lion Hilo touchdown. Touchdown. Bears WBBM

(14:04):
News Radio seven eight a M one oh five point
and FM Bears Radio Network. The Lions have just scored
on a golf to right pass, so there are an
extra point a way of tying this game. But it's
got to be frustrating to have the kind of offense
really the Lions have had for most of this season.
But their defense, wolf, Yeah, their defense has been pretty dreadful.

(14:25):
Anybody can score with the Lions, but the Lions have
had a little bit of that special sauce that the
Minnesota Vikings have had down the stretch of their season.
The Vikings have had an all season long, winning close
games in one score games that ridiculous. Oh, it's absolutely ridiculous.
Just just shows the fortitude of that football team. Turn

(14:46):
on the Indianapolis game if you need a reminder. That
was absolutely stunning what they did in the second half.
But yeah, the Lions have a little bit of that
magic too. And even though they had that embarrassing loss
to the Carolina Panthers, a week ago. This back half
of their season has been pretty sensational. They've won six
of their last eight games. Uh. Now they've tied the

(15:06):
score in this game in Chicago and they get to
face the Packers last a team who they beat fifteen
nine UM and that was a part of this eight
game run where they've won six. So I'm very excited
to see Aaron Rodgers and Jared Golf duel it out
in Green Bay for the final game of the season.

(15:26):
It's gonna be very different last time they played in
the dome. Nice quality controlled in terms of the temperature.
You get what you get at Lambeau when it's late
excuse me, early January. All right, the Jags got on
the board. The Michael Hasty in the game for the
hard time. Now he's the running back to the Rider,
Trevor a Bunch to the left, haar At a shotgun

(15:46):
inside hand off to Michael Hasty, lane line touch out,
five yard touchdown run for Michael Hasty and Jack Inville
right first w j x L A M ten ten
five Jaguars Radio Network. So the Jags, even if they
win today, do not clinch the a f C South UM.

(16:07):
They will still have to beat the Titans next week.
Even with a win, they will get first place. Obviously,
they'll get to eight and eight now on the season.
On the road today against the team that is most
likely going to be having Bryce Young is their quarterback
starting next season. By the way, did you see enough
from c J. Stroude to say, well, who whoa whoa
WHOA hold on Bryce Young versus c J. Stroud? If

(16:30):
you're the Texans right now, Rich, which way would you
lean with the number one pick? Yeah, it's so difficult, right,
because you gotta make the right choice. Yeah, you look
at a guy like Bryce Young and you think to yourself, like, well, jeez,
that's a guy who's got the pedigree in a system
that has pumped out recently a lot of really talented
professional football players at that quarterback position. You look at Hurts,

(16:54):
you look at Tongue of Valoa, you look even at
mac Jones what he did last year's rookie year with
the Patriots. If he lands in the right situation, he
could be devastating. But that's c J. Stroud Uh game
against against the Georgia Bulldogs defense, which was heralded as
the best in the college football ranks all season long
was outstanding. Look, we're going to have a lot more

(17:17):
information between now and draft time. I can't wait to
see how this narrative unfolds. All right, let's hear the
Saints scoring. Let's take him again. Now, he takes a
quarterback cut to the left, and he takes it into
the end zone. Taysom Hill right over the left, tash Mark.
The Saints take the opening kick off and just bang
it seventy five yards for the touchdown. Ww L Saints

(17:38):
Radio Network. So Saints an early seven nothing lead on
the road against the Eagles. The Eagles have yet to
clinch the NFC East. Cowboys get another win. Eagles will
host the Giants next week. They're trying to hold out
Jalen Hurts, but their magic numbers still one. It was
one last week, it's one this week. They lose it
home to the Saints all of a sudden, they have

(18:00):
to win that game next week against the Giants to
win the East and secure the number one seed. Remember,
the Vikings don't look like they're gonna lose many games here,
and they're only a game back as far as that
number one seed in the buy in the first round.
Vikings on the road later on today against the Packers.
So the Eagles all of a sudden maybe a little

(18:21):
more urgency to get their m VP candidate back in
the lineup. Well yeah, I I I would feel that way.
And also, you know, if you look at some of
these recent games, the loss to the Cowboys, um, even
the past couple of weeks, they're just letting teams score
on them at a rate that you're not used to seeing.
I mean, this this drive was fifteen plays for almost

(18:44):
nine minutes off the clock. The scenes did a nice
job opening up against the Eagles today. Um, that's not
to say that Gardner Minshew is an a talented quarterback
as a backup and isn't going to have success today
because even though they lost like last week, they hung
a ton of points on the Cowboys. So this is
this should be this should be an Eagles win a

(19:05):
home game late in the season. You're a thirteen and
two football team, But look out, I mean, this is NFL.
We see strange things every week. You gotta you gotta
have a Houston Texans sneak up on anybody at any time. Well,
that means that the Saints can beat anybody that in
this League at any time. Let's get a couple of
more scores in first of the thunder center seconded goal

get early here as we find out what's trending because Monsolo,
she's got a big day today. She's so rich. She

(20:31):
has a fantasy team in a championship game today. Yeah,
it's already not going well. It's okay, it's early. I know,
I know, I know, I know, but I hate. I've
never played fantasy football again. I can't. I'm tired. It's
the new year and I wasn't even outlay or anything.
It's just, you know, fireworks. Why are people doing fireworks
when it's raining? Why are people doing fireworks when it's raining?

(20:54):
Are you out there in the poort rain lighting fireworks?
It's called alcohol. We'll make you do a lot of things.
And so because the dynamite so annoying. But while we
talk about justin Fields, because he already has a hundred
and five rushing yards with five carries in this game.
The Bears and the Lions are tied at seven apiece

(21:14):
a little less than four minutes to go in the game.
But he's doing everything he can. The Cardinals have a
slight lead on the Falcons. They're up three zero. They're
about to start the second quarter. The Chiefs scored first
against the Broncos. They're beating them six zero with a
little over two minutes to go in the first quarter,
and the Patriots scored first against the Dolphins. They're beating
them seven zero halfway through the first The Cults are

(21:34):
up on the Giants three zero, less than three minutes
to go in the first quarter, while the Saints are
beating the Eagles. Yeah, seven zero, four minutes to go
in the first quarter of that game. The Panthers were
the first NFL team to score in the New Year.
Who would have thought that. They're beating the Buccaneers seven
zero about five minutes to go in the first quarter,
and the Browns have a lead on the Commanders three zero,

(21:55):
three minutes to go in the first wild. The Jaguars
are beating the Texans seven zero, four minutes to go
in the first quarter. A lot of NFL, a lot
of stress coming from my end today. Fellas, everybody over
here has a hat except me. Why don't I get
a hat? Fellas over there, Ryan, I always sam, oh,
it's in the party. By the way, is anybody wearing

(22:19):
the hat other than me? Ryan has a brush hat? Yes, Yes,
that's what I was saying. Why does everybody have the
party hat? New Year's Day hat? You're gonna yours is
waiting for you. Monster. Do I have to pop this
to get the hat? Yeah? You do it inside, everything
on the inside. Don't do it on the air though.
The explosion is unreal. It'll rattle, rattle. Are you really okay? Okay,

(22:40):
I'm excited. I'm gonna have a hat, all right, monstery Well,
if they don't worry. It's a long day, in a
long day. Anything about this the NFL season, anything, anything
can happen, anything, right, all right? Monsey will check in
with you a little bit later on Brown's with a
three outday laid on the road against the Commanders. Commanders,

(23:02):
another team rich. It has to win. Uh, as they're
trying desperately to hang on to that final playoff spot.
Uh in the NFC. Uh. You know, you look at
what's happening around the NFL right now, and you're gonna
have a lot of teams are gonna sneak into the playoffs,

(23:23):
and you have to wonder are any of them serious contenders?
Like right now, you look at the best game this
week in the NFL. It's rare, but it's gonna be
Monday night with the Bills on the road against the Bengals,
and you got the Bengals on a roll. He got
the Bills, he got the Chiefs. I don't think any
other team is really gonna threaten them. But then you

(23:43):
look at a team like let's say the Chargers who
got into the playoffs, and they're most likely first round
opponent would be Cincinnati. Now remind me again, Rich, were
you not a member of the Chargers and one a
road playoff game in Cincinnati? We did? Indeed? Yeah, that
was um, that was when Andy Dalton was still slinging

(24:06):
it for the Bengals. And uh yeah. Look, anything can
happen in the NFL postseason. And and that's especially when
you have a great quarterback exactly exactly, and and Justin
Herbert's a great quarterback, and he's gonna be dueling potentially
with a great quarterback, uh in the postseason. And you
look around the league, there's a lot of those teams
who are gonna make playoff runs. We'll see, man. I

(24:29):
here's the deal. The top three in both of these conferences,
one of those top teams at least is gonna be
knocked out of playoff contention the first week of the postseason.
It's just how it goes there's a wild card team
that surges that people don't really expect. I mean the
Cincinnati Bengals for crying out while they were that team
last year. So we'll see another one this season. Yeah,

(24:51):
they knocked out the one seed the Titans, and the
next thing you know, they were winning at Kansas City
and book to take it to the Super Bowl. Do
you buy into what Joe Mixon's been seeing? I mean
there they feel disrespected. They're hosting Money Night Football, having
won eleven of the last thirteen games, and they're an
underdog against Buffalo. He's like, hey, hey, I'm sorry, didn't

(25:13):
Are we not defending a f C champions Why it's
all to talk about the Chiefs and Bills. Where the
team in the a f C right now? Well, that's
the perfect place to be. If you're Joe Burrow in
the Cincinnati Bengals, you want to be the underdog. It
helps having bolton board material. Well, they have plenty in
front of them right now. Yeah, all right, let's hear
the Falcons get on the board. They're gonna hand out here.

(25:35):
Tyler reps it up and scores on the Terry the Game.
Falcons Radio Network in an absolutely meaningless game, the Falcons
lead the hapless Arizona Cardinals by a score of seven
to three. All right, let's get a little preview of
a big game coming up today, the forty Niners on
the road against the raid is. No, it's time for

(26:00):
the focus man. Joining us right now, our dear friend
Fox NFL analyst Mark Sanchez first, Happy New Year to you,
my friend, and uh getting ready for this game between
the forty Niners and the Raiders. Give us a little
inside and what's going on with the Raiders now that
they apparently have parted ways with Derek Carr. Well, no

(26:22):
doubt Mr Rmburger, Ms her Hartman, at least on your level.
Happy new your guys, happy again, fired up to talk
to you. Um God, what a strange turn of events.
But at the same time, you know, you take all
the emotion out of it and just just go from
a dollars and cents perspective, right, a financial perspective. It's
do we want to commit to David Carr for that

(26:44):
that amount whatever it is, thirty plus million dollars and
pay them the going rate for a starter moving forward?
And it sounds like they don't. And while that's you know,
heartbreaking and all that. Then they're gonna pay him five
million bucks. Move on. My only issue is who the
heck are they going to get to replace the guy?
You know? And and then all the all the rumors
start stirring up. Are they gonna go go after Tom Brady?

(27:06):
And seeing Tom Brady and the silver and black and
then you go down that rabbit hole, which would be wild.
Then you think, like, okay, do they do they have
a team built to win? Now? Well, it seems like
they're trying to dismantle this thing and build it up.
So if you bring in one of these rookies, they're
gonna have plenty of cash available to go signs of
free agents. And that really becomes the formula, right, you go,
get one of these young studs out of college, you

(27:28):
don't pay him as much relative to other, you know,
starting quarterbacks in the league, and then you stacked the deck,
essentially stacked the team, get everybody around him and then
around that quarterback, and then make a decision in three
to four years on what direction you're heading with that guy,
and basically hit the reset button. It's really tough though,
you know, because you can go either way on Car,

(27:49):
I personally think he's an absolute baller. I think he's
been the steadiest part of this organization for the past decade.
Made the playoffs twice, was hurt once, uh uh, and
and didn't play in the game. I think Cook played
for him, played in it last year, almost had a
chance to win there at the end. Um, you know,
multiple Pro Bowls, he's he's a heck of a quarterback.

(28:11):
And you know, he's never said anything negative about this
organization when there were plenty opportunities to and uh, you know,
all the different head coaches and coordinators and personnel changes.
That's a lot for a guy to to handle and
weather those storms. So in my opinion, team moves forward.
The team moves forward. You know, you wish him both luck,
but I think Derek Carr is really in the driver's

(28:33):
seat coming out of this. He's gonna be one of
the hottest, raging quarterbacks coming out right now for this
next season, and somebody's gonna get an absolute diamond in
the rough. And he could be Matt Stafford, he could
be Kirk Cousins going to their next team, signed a
big deal and go win a bus ball games. I
completely agree with you. I have a tremendous amount of
respect for Derek car as well. And hey, Mark, you

(28:54):
know we're sitting here, me being a former Nitney Lion,
you being a former Trojan on the eve of the
Rose Bowl where you absolutely carved us up. So every
once in a while you just have to give credit
where credits due. Marquis Sanche Yet day of your life,
you guys stayed and you guys stayed in uh that

(29:16):
damn cover three all game long and starts like, holy smokes,
they're not they ain't gonna change. Let's go, let's keep
running our stuff. But are you good with all your
cover three? Check? Baby? You just you were just dinking
and dunking your way down the field. You just had
our number the entire year. You're right, we stayed in
the same coverage all game long. Uh, and then of
course our offense didn't help very much. That that maybe

(29:38):
some part on me. But a guy who's uh carving
up some NFL defense is now who nobody really expected
to coming out of the draft, Mr irrelevant to the
most relevant quarterback in the league, maybe brock Perty on
the other side of this matchup, and there was this
report out I think it was Yahoo. I saw it
this morning, Brian Greasy, who has helped in the development

(29:59):
and the study of Brock Purty getting him setting ready
to play. Did you have any mentors like early in
your career in New York where you really leaned on
guys to help you learn what it meant to be
a pro and how to study the game. From that standpoint,
was one of the luckiest guys in the world to
have one Kellen Clemens to Mark Brunell, and three Kevin O'Connell.

(30:22):
Kevin O'Connell is now the head coach of the Vikings.
We knew he was going to coach way back then.
It was obvious. Kevin O'Connell was helping Mike Patton and
Rex Ryan draw blitzes for that divisional game that we
played on the road in twenty eleven, I want to
say eleven, my second season, and he was helping dial

(30:43):
up blitzes to get home to Tom Brady, and a
couple of them got home. One of them were used
on that um on a screen that he ended up
throwing a pick on. I think, and um, so, I mean,
that's the kind of guy Kevin o'connaugh was so just
so Cerebral really understood schemes, protection responsibilities, Like he got
the game and he saw it from a coach's perspective.

(31:04):
And then Brunelle was um more of a field guy,
more of a you know, demeanor type guy. He started
the uh the fine jar where he'd find me a
hunter bucks anytime I look to the sideline and gave
a palms up, which is just his way of reminding
me that, like, dude, everything runs through you, right, The
hopes and dreams and aspirations of everybody in that organization

(31:26):
run through your hands. Because you're touching the football all
the time. That means your body language, your footwork, your eyes,
the way you talk, the way you carry yourself matters.
And if you go palms up on the coordinator, whether
it's you know, the speaker's fall in your helmet or
you just didn't hear the call or whatever, it doesn't matter.
You're sending the wrong message. So I don't want to
see it again, you know. And he was like that direct,
but still like a father or older brother type figure

(31:49):
that would get you juiced up for games, and he
made you feel so good and and I you know,
I'll never forget as soon as we from the bench
getting ready for games, and it's like time to walk
out on the field, and he goes, hey, Bud, you
got this. You put in all the work. You're ready
to roll, great footworth, great eyes, complete the bond. It's easy, man,
just throw it to the open guy. Well, you know,

(32:11):
And it's interesting about these two teams, the forty Niners
and the Raiders, because I'm watching right now Tom Brady
and the Buccaneers. They're they're losing to Carolina seven and nothing.
And yet we're hearing, obviously with Josh McDaniels in Vegas,
that there's the obvious connection that, hey, maybe you bring
in Brady for a year while you may develop a
young quarterback or or even the forty Niners, who obviously

(32:33):
have everything in place, they got brock Party doing the job. Well.
Trey Lance is still an unknown. Do you bring back
at Jimmy Garoppolo, Could you see any scenario or would
you if you were the forty Niners or the Raiders
organization basically bring in the goat at age forty six
next season? Gosh, all I can say to that kind
of stuff, you know, because then we're just getting into

(32:55):
all these hypotheticals and I love to do it, but
at the same time, it's like you never know, right,
Like Jimmy Garoppolo literally said goodbye after that playoff game
in Dallas, that has been a great run. Thank you.
Had guys on his team. Once he came back, guys
on the team were over his house and there were
still stuff packed up in boxes, so he was ready

(33:15):
to go, you know what I mean. Like these photos
came out and you could see like he had moving
boxes in his house and he was out of there.
So I got it. I don't know how he ended
up saying, but he did and for good reasons. So
now it's what do you do? And you have this
small sample size, granted of an incredible sample size of
Brock Purdy, who's now you know, I think he's like him.

(33:38):
Sonny Jorgenson and Jan Marinos share like a bunch of
records for the first three games. It's which is incredible,
But at the same time, it's three games. So let's
pump the brakes, make sure we know exactly what we got,
get a bigger sample size and see how this kid
plays in the playoffs. With the understanding that what we
mentioned earlier in the in the show. Here the deck
is stacked for him. This is one of the best

(33:59):
teams in football, Like across the board, it's unbelievable. Their
defense is nasty. I mean, I feel Jared Stidham has
gotta make his first start today. Are you kidding me?
Playing against those guys? Come on now, it's the best
run defense in the league. And granted you've got Josh Jacobs,
but holy smokes, that's gonna be that's a tall order
for a guy making his first start, right, So they

(34:19):
got everything they want. I think Brock Purdy is gonna
dictate some of this by the way he plays down
the stretch. And I mean, if he's trotting out on
the field on Super Bowl Sunday, can you imagine the
kind of conundrum may have a good conundrum, but a
conundrum nonetheless in San Francisco next year, like what do
we do? How do we how do we get rid
of this guy to bring in somebody else when this

(34:40):
guy has proven you know, so it's uh, that's gonna
be a wild one, A good problem to have, I
guess for the forty niners. And I mean then the
other question, even before that is well, what do you
do if you know, he sputters a little bit, throws
a couple of picks, but you barely win in a
wild card divisional game and Jimmy garopp blow is healthy.
Do you bring him back in? You know? So that's
go to be interesting moving forward. And this is kind

(35:02):
of the start of of how those decisions will get
played out based on the performances today. Yeah, we'll see
how Stidham fares against that forty Niners defense. Hopefully he
has as much success as you did against the Ninny
Lions all the way back January of two thousand through
for four yards at that's hey, police on ner nuevo

(35:24):
to you as well, and we'll do it again real soon.
Thank you, Mark, appreciate you guys. Take care of a
good one, you too, Mark, Mark Sanchez Johnny a Sair

That's w Fan Giants Radio Network. Giants Nina win and
are leading the Colts by a score of seven to three.
Welcome back, Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Were your live
from the ti iraq dot com studios. All right, quick
rundown of the scoreboard here Rich Cardinals leading the Falcons
ten seven, seven thirty to go in the second quarter.

(37:16):
We got the Lions over the Bears fourteen to ten,
twelve minutes to go in the first half. There Chiefs
leading the Broncos six at three, nine and a half
minutes to go in the first half. Dolphins and Patriots
are tied at seven twelve thirty nine to go on
the first half. We mentioned the Giants leading the Colts
seven to three, Saints leading the Eagles ten nothing, eight

(37:36):
and a half minutes to go in the half, their
Panthers over the Bucks seven nothing, twelve minutes to go
on the half, Rounds over the Commanders three nothing, also
twelve minutes to go on the half, and the Jags
on the road against the Texans leading by a score
of a seven and nothing. So again, we are heading
towards halftime in a lot of these games. But already
you're starting to look at some teams and you're like,

(37:59):
I'm watching this Anthers Bucks game. The Bucks just missed
a long field goal attempt, and they showed Tom Brady
and he was just shaking his head. Um. I mean,
his numbers are decent, he's nine twelve yards. But this
has been a problem all year for the Bucks. Rich
they can't get in the end zone, they can't score touchdowns. Yeah,
they've been a terrible red zone team all season long.

(38:19):
And it really, when it comes down to it, Tom
Brady isn't even close to the biggest problem this Tampa
Bay Buccaneers team has. He's been pretty sensational, even though
he's in his his upper forties. Now, Um, you know, yeah,
you have you have a defense that's not as good
as they were a year ago or the past two seasons.

(38:40):
I should say, Um, you have an offense that, even
though he's been on the same page at times with
these playmakers, it's just been an odd season. He hasn't
gotten into a rhythm and this offense hasn't gotten into
a real rhythm, and they can't run the football and
that's a big reason why the offense in general has struggled.
So yeah, I mean, look, a forty six year old

(39:01):
quarterback can't do it all by himself. And I'm not
saying he's the only one trying out there, but it
certainly seems like if this was going to be the
dress rehearsal for him to sign on again to be
with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another go at this thing,
I'm pretty sure the diet is cast. I bet you
Tom Brady is on the move this offseason. Well, the
one big drop off in Tom Brady is throwing the

(39:22):
ball down the field. Um. He has a hundred and
ninety two pass attempts over ten yards this year and
only two touchdowns of over ten yards. So for whatever reason,
now you can say this guy is throwing a million
passes eventually. And we've seen it with every single great quarterback.
We might be seeing a lot with Aaron Rodgers. You

(39:43):
lose a little zip on the fastball, and that's been
the big question. So anyway, Buccaneers down seven nothing. He
can never count out Tom Brady. Hey, let's let's get
a couple more scores here. How about the Lions taking
the lead. Jandre Swift takes the kicks less side, gets
a block to the ten, touch back in the five
to the end zone, touch down two Lions. Betty love

(40:04):
that time beyond the slip, stop doing what he does.

I hope everyone is just the realization. Right it's twenty

But a big week seventeen around the National Football League.
One game that is just blowing me away is what's
happening in Tampa right now, and that is the Panthers

(42:15):
and the Bucks. By the way, I I losched you
there for a second, Rich, So I want to give
you this look at that. Do you like us? You
like time? One time? Yeah, Howard, did you have a
big blowout party last night? Or what happened? What happened with? No? No,
we we kept it. You know what we did do

(42:35):
is there's an area of San Diego called Fiesta Island.
They went out there and we watched the New Year's
Eve fireworks go off at nine o'clock. They do it
with the East Coast ball drop, and so it was
a short display. But the kids out of blast a
little little sparkling cider, uh pop at the East Coast
New Year and then everybody was in bed before midnight,

(42:58):
so it was it was a successful New Year's Eve. Wow. Alright, well,
very very good. I'm watching what's happening with the Panthers
and the Buccaneers. Fourteen nothing Panthers Sam Darnald just through
a beautiful pass for a touchdown. He is eight of
eleven d twelve yards, two touchdowns again and win this
week for the Panthers. Win next week in New Orleans,
and the Panthers win the NFC South. There was a

(43:21):
fumble on a punt rule the fumble, but it looked
to me like his elbow was down, so uh, it
looks like the Panthers will retain the football here leading
the Buccaneers by a score of fourteen to nothing. Rich
I wanted to ask him before the top of the
yard about this Commander's team right now losing at home
two minutes ago in the first half to the lowly

(43:43):
Browns by a score of three to nothing. But Carson Wentz.
They put him back a quarterback today and he has
been awful. He's five and nine fifty six yards and
he's already thrown two picks. I know Heineke wasn't maybe
the answer long term, but anything is better than Carson Wentz.
I I just this move by the Commanders to put

(44:05):
Wentz back in there to me, uh well, at least
so far, it's looking like a bad move. Yeah yeah,
I mean, look, this is the reality of the NFL.
Heineke was hurt early in the fourth quarter last week,
played through a separated shoulder, so it is what it is.
Everybody wants to see more of Taylor Heineke. I'm sure

(44:25):
Washington fans would tell you that. Um. And it has
been an ugly game so far for Carson Wentz. I
will see this. Despite that they've been able to possess
the football for the majority of this half, they are
doubling up the Cleveland Browns, who just can't seem to
hold onto the ball because the Commander's defense has showed
up today. They have eighteen minutes to the Cleveland Browns.

(44:47):
Ten minutes are just under ten minutes in terms of
ball ball control during this game. So look, in a
game where you're going to be depleted offensively because of
your quarterback, UM, you you need to you need to
do what the commanders are doing, which is just hang
around in the football game and try to make some
plays and adjustments at the at be half. But look,

(45:08):
Carson Wentz the rise and the ascension to the the
uh to the heights he was at his rookie season,
in his second year, UH to where he's at. Now,
have we seen a career arc like this ever? I mean,
he was touted as maybe like like he was touted
the way Josh Allen is being touted like this for

(45:29):
a year and a half. Yeah, for the like this big, strong,
like next best quarterback in the NFL. And he's completely
fallen off the map. Well, I gout that's fallen off
the map as well as Deshaun Watson. Now, this story
has been very low key with all the height going in.
He's four starts into his return to the NFL, and
he bears no resemblance to the Deshaun Watson we saw

(45:51):
with the Houston Texans, completing less than fifty eight percent
of his passes, two touchdowns, three picks. He's been awful
already Today for the Cleveland Browns, he three of eight
for twenty three yards. So um, okay, we we knew
there would be a little rust, but for two hundred
and thirty million, fully guaranteed dollars, you're expecting an elite quarterback. Now.

(46:16):
I don't know what the Browns plans are for three
and beyond, but you have everything writing on Deshaun Watson
being the guy that he was in college, the guy
he was with the Houston Texans, and whether it's the
system or something is forever gone or maybe needs to
return with Watson, this guy doesn't look anything like a

(46:39):
franchise quarterback through his first four now five starts with
the Cleveland Browns. Well, listen, football is as much a
mental game as it is a physical game. It's a
very physical game, mind you, but you have to be
up for the task mentally every single week. And this
is somebody who took almost a two year layoff while
he was dealing with this off the field situation where

(47:02):
he's being charged or excuse me, not never charged, but
um allegations of sexual misconduct with several massage therapist several
is really underrating it. We're talking about thirty plus right,
It's it's a ridiculous amount of allegations against him. And
then in that meantime going to court dates and um.
And I don't know how much he was focused on

(47:23):
his training during all that. Let's be honest with each other.
You know, when your personal life, we were talking about
this with Tom Brady, when your personal life is completely
out of sorts, how much can you really concentrate on
a game, you know, even a game that nets you
millions and millions of dollars. There there comes a point
where you have to pay more attention to what's going

(47:43):
on at home or in your personal life. And I
think that has a huge factor and nobody's been talking
about it, but a huge factor on the way that
Deshaun Watson has played. This has been a tumultual this year,
regardless of whether or not he's guilty of anything. For
him to navigate and so playing his best football, I'm
sure is was the lowest UH item on the list.

(48:05):
How about proving his innocence for the majority of the
past two years, if that's what he was trying to do.
And again, this is in some sort of you know,
UH debate on whether or not he's innocent. Um, But
this was a tumultuous year. So I mean the outcome
is the outcome. I don't think he's gonna play good
football this season at all. Already been sacked four times.
He has more sacks in this game than completion so far,

(48:27):
and yet the Browns is still winning by a score
at three to nothing. Let's hear the Giants get on
the board stats back to throw fire, hit light to
preach it for the gold out for Hawsers is he Gren'
touchdown Giants w fan Giants Radio Network. So the Giants
looking good right now as they are off to a
let me get an update on that score right now?
Fourteen three lead over the Colts. If the Giants win today, Rich,

(48:50):
they clinched a playoff spot, which is uh what they've
been waiting for. They had these two years cycles with
their coaches. They brought in Brian Table, they got off
to good start, They've won one game over the last
six weeks. But here they are today a home win
against the Colts and the Giants will clinch a playoff spot. Uh.

(49:10):
Where are we with this Giants team right now? I mean,
you know, obviously, you know, getting out of a rut
where you're not a playoff team, getting back in the playoffs,
even if it results in her first round loss. Is
this a Giants team that has enough pieces to get
themselves in the conversation, you know, to win a championship
down the road with Brian Dable or do they still

(49:31):
have a long way to go? Well, the Giants stave
sustained a lot of injuries this season, and uh, I
think that sort of caught up with them at the
midpoint of the year. And then they went through that
tough run where you know they lost or tied because
there was a tie in there with the Commanders four
straight and then they finally got off the schneide after

(49:52):
hosting the Commanders almost in back to back weeks. It
was Commanders at home, then they went on the road
to the Eagles, and then when act to Washington to
face the Commanders again, finally got a w after a
bit of a drought there. Uh, and then uh close
lost to the Vikings last week. So if you look
at where the Giants are right now, and it kind
of feels like they're in a little bit of the

(50:13):
same position as the Miami Dolphins, Like you're you're trying
to teach a team with a brand new coach what
it is to be a playoff team. All over again,
what it is, what it means to finish seasons the
right way, and Brian Dable and Mike McDaniel both have uh,
you know, some yeoman's work to do still in front

(50:34):
of them to finish out their season successfully. All right,

playing Green Bay next week. Rich, but they need help. Uh.
That loss to the Carolina Panthers was brutal for them
last week, so they they need to win and they
need both the Commanders and Seahawks to at least at
least lose a game. Let's hear that Lion's latest score

They leave the Bears twenty one to ten. If you're

course they're gonna be sitting there with that ramspick courtesy

(51:37):
of the Matthew Stafford Trade. Golf is good. And he's
not even thirty years old yet. He's twelve or sixteen today,
a hundred thirty yards, two touchdowns, note picks. He's had
a Pro Bowl caliber season for the Lions. Um, I'll
tell you one thing I would pass on the idea
of taking a quarterback and fire with the Lions. Maybe

(51:58):
get a Will Anderson, you know, the other side of
Aidan Hutchinson. Help out this defense which needs a lot
of help. Offense is not their problem. They go into
this draft, you got a premium pick at the top,
go for an impact defensive player. If you're the Detroit Lions,
That's what I would do. Well, you know what golf
could also help you do is groom the next quarterback.

(52:18):
You know, he could be your name starter heading Intoe,
but you could also have Jared Goff help along the
first round pick. I mean, remember, yes they have their
own first round pick, but they also have the Rams pick.
As well. Well, that's gonna be a top five pick.
I mean, Jared Goff is twenty eight years old, he's
not thirty two three. I mean, you don't think golf

(52:40):
can get the job done over the next I don't know,
four or five years. Oh no, no, he he clearly
could get the job done. But are you're looking for
somebody who's going to get you in the postseason? Are
you looking for somebody to win you a championship? Do
you really have bowl winning quarterback? He's had a good
enough season. This offense has certainly had a good enough
season to be a playoff can dender? They still get

(53:01):
their their defense though that's not the question. Though. The
question was is Jared Goff good enough to win you
a Super Bowl? The Rams made the decision that he was,
and and then they were proven correctly when they traded
him to Detroit and got Matthew Stafford to help them
win a Super Bowl. So my point is this, unless
you're convinced, because the goal of every franchise should be

(53:21):
to win a Super Bowl championship, If if you aren't
convinced that you have the guy to win a super
Bowl with, then you need to get the guy, you're
gonna win a super Bowl with? Now I agree with you.
Maybe that rams pick in the first round they use
to go and get a Will Anderson or somebody to
help this defense, would say, which they desperately need to improve,
and that's priority number one. But with that that second

(53:43):
pick that they have in the first round, if one
of these talented quarterbacks, and this is a great quarterback
class slips to that pick of their own, maybe it's
time to look at drafting a first round quarterback and
seeing if Jared Goff can help groom him into being
what you hope will be a super Bowl winning her back.
All right, The Panthers are now leading the Bucks fourteen

(54:03):

this game, Daniel Jones fifteen eighty three yards, two touchdowns,
no picks, Giants leading to col to three. By the way,
the experiment of bringing Nick Foles back has not worked

(55:55):
out well. I mean it was terrible last week and
there you heard a pick six. So whatever magic Nick
Foles had in the past, Super Bowl m v p. Uh,
it has been a miserable season rich for these Indianapolis Colts. Yeah,
it really has been. And and we look back, obviously
to the decision to hire uh Jeff Saturday out of

(56:19):
relative obscurity in terms of the coaching world. Obviously he
was a star analyst with ESPN before jumping ship on
the studio to take on the sideline. But the Colts
have been uh like, it has been a dizzying lack
of production in the second half of football games. And
like we know, football coaches are really given their flowers

(56:44):
for making adjustments at halftime, and he has been terrible
at this. You know, you look back to the Cowboys
game three or four weeks ago now, and that fourth
quarter was one of the most heroic offensive performances by
any team in terms of a Cowboys in the fourth
quarter completely decimating the Colts. Uh. The the comeback for

(57:05):
the Vikings in the second half the Colt I mean
it was historic, right exactly. They had a thirty three
point lead, they were shutting out the Vikings. They go
on to lose the game, and they just didn't really
even have a puncher's chance against the Charges a week ago.
He's a one win coach. He's probably gonna return back
to the broadcast booth after this season. And and this

(57:26):
is the way it goes. Sometimes you take somebody out of,
you know, a position that's that's not typically where you
hunt for candidates, whether it be a general manager heading
to uh an organization to help their player personnel and
he's a he's a broadcaster, or Rob Polinka he became

(57:49):
a general manager after being a sports agent for a
long time. You know, these a little bit uncouth in
terms of head hunting for your next candidate. This was
a mistake by the coltson. I think we're seeing that
in real time. Absolutely, and it wasn't all Matt Ryan's
fault either, as Nick Foles is showing right now. All right,
let's hear the Buccaneers get back into their game against

(58:10):
the Panthers. Twitch snapp tiple mode by there was a
deep path toward Eva sneer sidelock. He makes to cut
the pre too odd touch top top a bay so
like Evans off false ride and Brady for the rainbowt
Brow Buccaneers Radio Network. Now what was interesting about this?
So that made a fourteen seven Panthers, and then there

(58:32):
was a fumble recovered by the Buccaneers. They got the
ball down to the four yard line of Carolina. They
had a fourth and one, and they elected to go
with a field goal. You got Tom Brady at quarterback,
fourth and one, at the four yard line, and you
settle for a field goal. So the Panthers lead this

(58:54):
game fourteen and ten. We're getting to halftime right there.
But in a day and age where everyone seems to
be going it on fourth down, you're at the four
yard line, fourth and one, Tom Brady's your quarterback, and
you tell him get out of the game. We're gonna
settle for a field goal. I don't think that's happened
too often to Tom Brady. I don't love it, man,

(59:16):
and and I think, listen, you're not getting away with
doing that unless Tom Brady um agrees with that decision.
You know what I mean. Do you really think that
Byron left Which and Todd Bowles are telling Tom Brady
that he's not going for it. I think Tom realizes that.
You know, at this point in the season, it's best
if they just take the points, which is a sad

(59:38):
state of affairs. This reminds me a lot of the
New England Patriots season when there wasn't much left in
the cupboards for Tom Brady. He had been asking for
years for more help, more help, and and maybe he
wanted to help them make the selections for players to
surround him with offensively, and they just couldn't do it,

(59:59):
And so he left for Tampa Bay, who had a
team that felt like they were a quarterback away from
a super Bowl, and he proved that true, winning a
super Bowl in it sort of feels like the same song.
It's just with a different team. This season, it just
sort of feels like defensively, there's not enough offensively for
whatever reason. You know, the offensive line getting injured certainly

(01:00:21):
had a big part of it. The injuries around the
offense certainly had a big part of it. But this
just sort of feels like, even if they limped their
way into the postseason, most likely they'll be an easy out.
And then I don't see Tom Brady sticking around in Tampa.
All right, give me one more. How about a Chiefs
score snapped them a home short roll right wide open
right side McKinnon on the angle right side, touchdown one

(01:00:45):
of six five The Wolf and the Chief's radio network
right now, they leave the Broncos thirteen to ten. Of course,
Hackett was fired as the Broncos coach after they got
humiliated and their last loss too of all teams, the Rams.
They hired uh interim coach Jerry Rossberg, and he he
got a little nois this week when they had a
full pad practice, uh, with you know, two weeks to

(01:01:08):
go in a season that's lost. Granted they still had
one full pad practice left on their agenda. I know,
who did you get so many of these during the
course of the season. But you know, rich a lot
of people, some of the Broncos players, like, what are
we doing? Like the season's over and we're in full
pad practice with two weeks to go. So what would

(01:01:28):
you make of a situation like that? Uh, with an
interim coach making that kind of a call? Yeah, I
I don't. I don't love it. I don't love it
at all. I mean it's uh, look there there's um
there's a lot of things that you can learn about
a team when you have late season high effort practices.

(01:01:49):
But I don't think this is the season where you
do that with this roster. But I don't know. Maybe maybe,
you know, maybe there was some sort of method to
this madness that I'm not understand. Ending Um, but I
wouldn't do it. Like if I were in that situation
and I were trying to just sort of help this
team to the finish line. That that is having an absolute,

(01:02:10):
you know, disaster of a season, considering how highly touted
they were in the off season leading into two. There's
no way I would be doing anything like this to
to sort of ruffle ruffle the feathers. And I I
don't get it. I frankly don't get it. I I
I don't think it was his call. I think the
new ownership, the Walton family obviously extremely frustrated with this

(01:02:33):
disastrous four and eleven season. Uh maybe they want to
kick somebody. I don't know. But you can have a
mutiny from your players if you do that. Remember one
thing about this Broncos team. As bad as their offense
has been, as bad as Russell Wilson has been, their
defense has been hanging in there, playing tough. They only
had the one real blowout loss that ended up causing
a hacket to get fired immediately. By the way, Welcome

scoreboard watching. We got Ryan our pace. It's got to
championship games today, right, I know. And I just want
to be part of the party. Hold on, there you go.
I just wanted to do that. Thank you, thank you.
It's too fun. It's we're I am so glad that
I'm here on New Year's Day. And that's Sam brought

(01:03:38):
all of these things because I feel like I am
celebrating the New year again at noon. So somebody let
a moose into the building. Whatever there, Yeah, what's broken,
that's broken distress. I told the guys that this is
how I'm gonna announce my entrance from now on, so
you know, I'm coming. I'm just gonna announce it really quick.

(01:04:00):
Most of these games are at half time except the
Commanders and the brown has just got going. In the
third quarter. The Commanders have a lead despite Carson Wentz.
The score is seven to three. Carson Wentz has completed
six passes and he's thrown two interceptions, but again, the
Commanders are still up. So hey, the Jaguars have been
all over the Texans zero. In fact, Twitter is talking

(01:04:21):
that maybe the Jaguars are gonna bench their starters the
way the game this the way it's going halftime zero.
And then the Buccaneers and the Panthers. Hey, the Buccaneers
on the scoreboard, Mike Evans on my fantasy team. I
needed that touchdown. But the Panthers are up fourteen to ten.
The Saints have been all over the Eagles thirteen zero.
The Giants have been all over the Colts twenty four

(01:04:42):
to three. The Dolphins and the Patriots are still tied
at seven apiece. The Chiefs could have extended their lead,
but they missed a fifty one yard field goal right
before halftime, so they're only beating the Broncos by three.
How about Russell Wilson rushing for a touchdown? What about that?
And then the Lion hants all over the FL Now
what the note? You're right? I mean, I'm just saying

(01:05:02):
he rushed for a touchdown. I couldn't believe it. I
don't think anyone could believe it. And then the Lions
have been all over the Bears too, And I mean
Jared Goff m v P sixteen out of twenty a
hundred and seventy three yards, two touchdowns. Belcans have a
slight lead over the Cardinals at halftime. Fourteen thirteen is
the score. There was a story that came out earlier
in the according to ESPN about the NFL. The NFL

(01:05:24):
p A is filing a grievance against the NFL and
the Carolina Panthers for the hardness of the artificial turf
at Bank of America Stadium and last game last Saturday's
game between the Panthers and the Lions. Apparently, they complained
before the game about the field conditions in the coldest
home game for the Panthers in history. It was twenty
degrees and the NFL p A wanted a delay before

(01:05:45):
the game to address the issue. A delayed during the
game after it started at the scheduled time. This is
all according to ESPN. Jared Goff was quoted regarding this
situation that I don't know what the deal is here,
but they need to figure out a way to make
the turf not feel like cement. Rich, did you experience that, Yeah,
I mean there were times where, you know, if the
weather is cold enough, the playing surfaces, the playing surface,

(01:06:07):
the old artificial tours were literally cement cement. Yeah, we're
just carpet over the I mean would barely carpet over it.
So I can't imagine that. I don't know. It's amazing.
Guys didn't get more cracked up. Totally, totally, all right, Monsey,
thank you very much. Hey, Rich, I want to ask
you about Justin Fields right now. So the Bears have

(01:06:28):
lost eight straight games eleven of their last twelve. Today,
Justin Fields has a hundred thirteen yards Russian halftime. They're
down two touchdowns to the Lions, passing three of eight
thirty three yards. He's been sacked five times in the
first half alone. So the Bears are sitting there with
the probably the second pick in the draft. Are you

(01:06:54):
sure Justin Fields is as we were talking earlier, right
about the Jared Goff situation, Lions sitting with a high
draft pig. Every team has the same goal to win
a Super Bowl. Is Justin Fields a super Bowl caliber
quarterback in your opinion? Uh? No, not in It's not
not in this current Chicago Bears iteration. I have tremendous

(01:07:18):
amount of respect for him as an athlete. I think
he's one of the best um players with the football
in his hands, uh, in the league right now. I
mean he has almost every single game a rushing play
of over fifteen yards, if not more. I mean he's
over a thousand yards rushing this year. I mean, he's

(01:07:38):
probably gonna set a record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
But we've talked about this, Rich When you have a
quarterback the runs that much, you're not gonna have a
long run in this league. Yeah. Over his last whatever
it's been I think five games, six games, he's had
three rushes of over thirty nine yards or more, four
rushes over thirty nine yards over with the hundred yards

(01:08:01):
plus today he's over eleven d yards rushing. In that
same time, he's had five or four touchdown runs. I mean,
I look at this guy and I say, oh, these
are great stats for a running back. For a running back, like,
this is what you do with a running back, This
is what you do with Coorderrol Parrison, Patterson, er Derrick
Henry or Tony Pollard. You don't do this with a quarterback. Now.

(01:08:22):
I frankly think the reason why they're doing it is
because he's having an awful hard time figuring out um
the game at quarterback. You know. I also think that
the Chicago Bears don't have a tremendous amount of talent
around him, so that definitely hampers progress. And he's been
through two head coaches and there's two different voices in

(01:08:45):
his head about how offensive football is supposed to be
played at this level. So I mean, just think about it.
Over the past three seasons, he went from Ryan day
Uh to Matt Naggie and now onto Matt ever Flus
and you know, and then the three different offensive coordinators
that go with those with with a group, I I

(01:09:05):
just I I feel for him because it's difficult to
cut your teeth in this league with so many new
offenses being sort of downloaded into your your brain and
expecting to have good output. It really has been a
struggle for him. And so yeah, they go back into
the draft. Would it shock me say you have if
you have the second overall pick, obviously you'll have a

(01:09:27):
quarterback sitting there. It could be c J. Strata, could
be Bryce young and they're sitting there. Now. We saw
what the Jets did. The Jets turned the page on
Sam Donald, who just a few years ago was hyped
up as a guy that was gonna be a surefire
star in the league. He's looked pretty good today for Carolina.
And then just a couple of years later, with the
second overall pick, they go with Zach Wilson, turning in
page on the quarterback. We saw Arizona do this right

(01:09:50):
with Josh Rosen first round pick. The very next year,
number one overall pick, they go with Kyler Murray. So
the Bears are awful again. They've lost eight straight games,
they're well on their way to a ninth straight loss,
twelve losses in the thirteen game span. You have a
quarterback that is showny has an incredible running ability, but
they're passing game is nonexistent. And then you could be

(01:10:12):
sitting looking at a Bryce younger c J. Straud In
the draft, what do you do? Yeah, I mean, if
you're asking me, should the Chicago Bears take a good
hard look at their quarterback situation and see if there's
value for Justin Fields and if they find more value
in picking a quarterback at the slot they're selecting at.
The answer is yes, when you have underwhelming production, and

(01:10:36):
and let's face it, you know, if they stick with
Matt Eberflus and their current general manager, it's not like
they're gonna say, oh, got it, we're the problem, Like
I need to fire myself so that Justin Fields has
a better chance to win with the next regime, that's
not gonna happen. So, assuming that all pieces are still
in place, their goal is to figure out which players

(01:10:57):
they need to switch out to fix the problem, and
it a start with Justin Fields. It's unfortunate for him because,
like I said, I see him as a sympathetic character
and all this, and he's supremely talented as an athlete
in this league. He can clearly play at this level.
But can he play quarterback? We still don't know, and
that may not be all his fault. But like we've
seen in the past, coaches, general managers they'll move a

(01:11:21):
quarterback in order to save their own jobs, and the
Chicago Bears may have to do that for those that
are gonna be filling out an m v P ballot.
Take a long look at Jalen Hurts. Without Jalen today,
the Eagles have nothing going on. They are still losing
to the Saints thirteen nothing, eleven minutes to go on
the third quarter. Gardner Minshew is not the answer. Nine

(01:11:41):
or thirteen hundred three yards. He's been sacked five times
in this game. They only have a hundred and twenty
four total yards. Meanwhile, Andy Dalton thirteen of fourteen hundred
sixty four yards passing for New Orleans. So sometimes you
don't know how valuable a player is until he's out
of the line up. But without Jalen Hurts and his

(01:12:03):
multifaceted skill set, this Eagle's offense looks not good. And
you look at the Saints and just the way they're
executing this game plan today. Opening drive fifteen plays captive
with a touchdown almost nine minutes off off the clock.
Their next series, after forcing a three and out against
the Eagles, they go nine plays, only move the ball

(01:12:25):
thirty yards, but they take five minutes, twenty seconds off
the clock. They force another three and out from the Eagles.
Then they go five plays that takes an additional three minutes.
They get the field goal, they force another three and
out from the Eagles. Seven play drive, four minutes off
the clock. They force another three and out from the Eagles.

(01:12:45):
So the Saints, they clearly showed up with two goals.
We are going to win this game playing solid defense
against a backup quarterback, and when we get the ball,
we are going to possess the ball. And if we
have to settle for three points at a time, we're
fine with it, just as long as we milk the clock.
And if you look at the team stats in terms
of the time of possession so far throughout this game,

(01:13:07):
and we're into the third quarter now, five minutes in,
the Saints have possessed the ball almost twenty three minutes.
The Eagles have only had the football for eleven Yeah,
I mean, so they are just dominating this game right now. Yeah,
Jake Elliott did kick a fifty six yard field goal
for the Eagles, so at least they're on the board
right now. But Saints still leading and dominating. As you
broke it, down right now, thirteen three and again the Eagles.

(01:13:30):
With the Cowboys winning again, they still have not clinched
not only the NFC East but the number one overall seed.
The Giants will host the Giants next week. Will Jalen
Hurts be back? A lot of people thought he was
gonna be back this week. They held him out another week.
But that's gonna put an absolute must tag on a
game against the Giants. Now, the Giants, it could be

(01:13:52):
in a position where they've already clinched the playoff spot.
If the Giants beat the Colds today, they're in regardless,
that's a big if considering it's a lead right now
for the Giants in New York as the Colts are
just circling the drain on a miserable season. All right,
we roll on right now, by the way, once again, Uh,
we have so much going on around the National Football League. Also,

welcome back Fox Sports Radio Red Zone Radio. Here we
are live from the ti iraq dot com studios. Speaking
of the Lions, Rich, as we mentioned, they need some help.

(01:15:25):
They need to win this game, and they're well on
their way to a victory today against the Bears. Then
they would have to win at Green Bay, and they
would also need the Commanders and the Seahawks to lose
at least one game. And I want to bring the
Packers into the conversation right now. So the Green Bay

(01:15:47):
Packers today are hosting the Minnesota Vikings. They also don't
control their own destiny. But they're still breathing. They're still
breathing barely. They'll have to beat the Vikings. They have
to beat the Lions next week. Uh, and they're gonna
have to have a little bit of help. And the
Packers could sneak in. But I want to ask you
about Aaron Rodgers in general. Here here's what I have seen. Okay,

(01:16:12):
I'm gonna buy the eyeball test. He's lostep on the fastball.
I mean, there are throws that he has made throughout
his Hall of Fame career that he's just not making anymore. Now. Granted,
he doesn't have an overwhelming amount of talent at the
skill positions, but he's thrown some uncharacteristic passes that are
resulted in turnovers, in completions and key red zone situations,

(01:16:38):
and we just haven't seen this from one of the
great quarterbacks in NFL history. I don't know if he's
gonna get it back. What are your thoughts? Yeah, you know,
I I think that again, you know, stemming back from
a season, um a few years ago, where people were
saying the same thing about Tom Brady, who at the
time was in his forties and it was the season

(01:16:59):
with the Patriots and they really didn't have much for
Tom Brady to throw too. Um, everybody was saying that
about Tom. They saying, hey, I mean he might have
lost a little zip on the fastball. And then some
people were like, no, he hasn't. I think this is
a very similar debate. I think that Aaron rodgers chief
problem is Aaron Rodgers doesn't have a lot in Green Bay.

(01:17:21):
And I agree with him on that assessment when he
has asked for more from his coaches. Now, they invested
in the defense, and their sincere hope was that would
be enough UH to go out and win a Super Bowl.
But they missed that window, especially since they traded away
Davante Adams and reinvested in Aaron Rodgers. So they're in

(01:17:42):
a bit of a pickle. If Aaron's gonna stay in
Green Bay, they're gonna have to pay him a tremendous
amount of money to do so. Um. And that will
continue to be the case until they finally do trade
him or move on from him when he becomes a
free agent. UM. But the reality is what's coming in
after Aaron Rodgers? Is it going to be better than

(01:18:03):
Aaron Rodgers. That's that's the that's the scary proposition that
you face when you're an organization that's sitting in a
situation like the Raiders are all of a sudden, unceremoniously
bench Derek Carr, I mean, are you gonna be able
to get Tom Brady, are you are you gonna be
able to upgrade at the quarterback position over Derek Carts?
He the problem, you know, And and in Green Bay.

(01:18:25):
I don't look at Aaron Rodgers as being the problem,
mind you. They're on a three game tear right now,
Hold on, hold on, rich Yeah, yeah, I got bad
news for the Packers. Unless the Colts come back from
a thirty one to three deficit against the Giants, the
Packers are officially eliminated. So they need victory would keep
their hopes alive. And they need the Colts, who are

(01:18:46):
now trailing the Giants thirty one to three in the
third quarter. They would need a miraculous Colts come back
to stay alive. If the Giants win today, the Packers
are officially eliminated. Well, I got bad news because the
Giants just scored again on a Daniel Jones rushing touchdown.

(01:19:08):
The extra point is good, so they now lead thirty
one three in New York. So do we have that?
Can we hear that? Take the snap? He's gonna keep
it and run around the left side. He's got a
leap block. Jones the kickte Jills for the Tan chills
for the five shoulder did he get in? Yes, touchdown?
Daniel Jones, Hey teen yards? All right, w Fan Giants

(01:19:28):
Radio Network. So with this Giants victory today, Aaron Rodgers
and the Green Bay Packers, coming out three consecutive thirteen
win seasons, are officially out. They have been eliminated from
the postseason. Well, so now you have the question do
you put love in there? If they are officially eliminated

(01:19:48):
from the post I think it's exactly what they're gonna
do today. And so again, the Packers are hosting the Vikings. Vikings,
by the way, if the Eagles don't come back all
of a sudden, the Vikings are still in a position
where they could get the number one overall seed. The
uh you know, um, yeah, you know, it would still

(01:20:09):
take an Eagle's loss next week perhaps, But yeah, I
think the Packers have made it clear, and I think
Aaron Rodgers is good with that. Then he'll sit out
the rest of the season as long as they have
no chance of making the playoffs. And with the Giants
obviously gonna win today against the Colts, it's over. Yeah.
Very curious to see what they end up doing. Because
he's been banged up. He's in playing with that thumb

(01:20:30):
all season long, the ribs, lower body injuries. I mean,
it's been a bit of a soldiering through it kind
of year for Aaron Rodgers. So we'll see. All right,
we have a second half's underway. Nine games around the NFL.

is having one of those years. Man, he's well. Here
was this quarterback his first two years under Sean McVeigh,
when he was one of the best QUARTERBA member. The
showdown he had with Mahomes a game got his team
to the super Bowl, and then New England figured him out,

(01:21:54):
and then obviously it went south. But I mean again,
he's a twenty eight year old quarterback. Let's hear that line.

Dan Campbell's in a tremendous shop. This team started one

(01:22:17):
and six, one and six. Uh. As we mentioned, they
need to win next week against green Bay. Now that
green Bay has been officially eliminated from the playoffs. Do
not expect to see Aaron Rodgers play next week against
the Lions. But they need help. They need the Commanders
and the Seahawks to each lose at least one game.

(01:22:37):
But this Lions team, to me, rich very intriguing. I mean,
to me, the Packers are on the downside. Minnesota season
may have been a miracle year, you just don't go
eleven and oh in one score games. I don't think
they're quite as good as their record indicates. The Bears
obviously are a miserable franchise right now. I think the Lions,

(01:23:00):
if they pick the right guy, they get a Will
Anderson or some dynamic defensive presence on their on their
in their rookie class look out. I think the Lions
could be a breakout team in oh I. I don't
think you're saying anything that that anybody who's been watching
football this season would disagree with the Lions, and and

(01:23:22):
it's not from out of nowhere, because let's face it,
this is a team that's been building in the right
direction for a season and a half now, and I
think they've put together enough pieces offensively to compete with
anybody in this league. The defense is a real problem.
And so will they make it to the postseason yes, potentially,
And will they be an easy out, yes most likely.

(01:23:45):
But next year, next year, man, all bets are off.
I look at the Lions as being one of those
teams where not only could they win their division, um,
but they could be one of those teams that nobody
wants to go to Detroit Roy and face come the postseason.
I I feel that strongly about the Lions. This year,

(01:24:05):
the Cleveland Browns are doing the uh the Lions of favor.
Right now, the Browns have suddenly taken a seventeen to
seven lead over the Commanders. You know how it works,
every time I'm hyper critical of someone, they immediately throw
it back in my face. Deshaun Watson is doing that
right now, after a tough start to the day, on
fire right now now eight of sixteen thirty six yards.

(01:24:26):
Bigger than that, he has thrown two touchdown passes in
the third quarter. So now the Browns lead seventeen to seven.
So if the Commanders were to lose this game, that
certainly puts their playoff prospects in jeopardy. And then you
look a little bit later on the Seahawks are hosting
the Jets again, a Seahawks team that's clinging to playoff aspiration.

(01:24:51):
So remember what happened last year. Rich remember in the
a f C where he had the last game between
the Raiders and the Chargers, and we figured out that
if they ended in a high both teams got in.
But the Raiders ended up winning the game on a
field goal, which backdoord Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers into
the playoffs. If you look at these final playoffs spots
right now, both the a f C and the NFC,

(01:25:13):
that's exactly what's gonna happen next week. Yeah, yeah, it's
It's been a little bit of a crazy ride, you know.
I I remember back when people were saying, hey, seventeen
games is gonna ruin everything, or hey, additional teams in
the postseason are gonna are gonna ruin everything. The NFL,
they've got this thing figured out. Why upset the apple cart? Well,

(01:25:35):
guess what, they haven't upset anything. This is this is
some of the best watching, uh sports watching we have
available to us these days. And and the one the
one team by on each conference makes a lot of sense.
Have the bottom six play it out in the wild
card round. The seventeenth game hasn't disturbed anything in terms

(01:25:55):
of competitive balance in the NFL. In fact, you're gonna
have more teams a like thing to play more players
deeper into the season as a result of playoff seating
and uh fighting for for higher seating or a bye
week should they still be in contention at the top.
I think the NFL has sort of figured it out
their wizards, and um, I can't wait till next week

(01:26:17):
because that's the Rubbers meeting the road already. But it's
gonna be at a fever pitch next week. Well obviously
everything they touch his gold. I mean, I mean, let's
go back to Christmas Day, right, So on Christmas Day
they had three pretty nondescript games. The worst of it
was that Rams Broncos game. Two teams that were four
and ten playing for nothing backup quarterback. Um, and the

(01:26:39):
Rams blow them out. I mean, on top of everything else.
Is a bad matchup that turns out to be an
absolute blowout. That one game had more viewers than the
five NBA games that played that day combined. That one game,
over twenty million people watched an unwatchable matchup between the
Broncos and the And so this, this league simply cannot

(01:27:02):
do any wrong right now, and more is better. And
that's the other thing, by the way, how about this
I was talking to from about this. Now that the
NFL has shown that they have certainly no fear of
the NBA or anyone else on Christmas Day, they are
gonna continue this three games on Christmas Day two years
from now. Christmas days on a Wednesday, Wednesday. So what

(01:27:26):
Evrams suggests it is all right, So what do you
do the six teams that would play the three games
that day? You would play Saturday games for all three
all six of those teams the week before and then
and then they have the extended time off. Obviously they
have to worry about the next week because you're playing
on a Wednesday. How would that work Saturday Wednesday? And

(01:27:48):
then you have the extended you know, because it's late
in the year office, so there's no buys at that
point of the season. The pandemic was bad for a
lot of people in this country, a lot of people
across the world. But for the NFL, and I'm talking
about the sports league, the owners and how they figured
out how to navigate that pandemic season helped to reveal

(01:28:10):
to them that we could do whatever we want. We
could play any day of the week we want. Uh,
These players and and this league can survive virtually any
day of the week. In terms of scheduling. You could
put us up against any other league and will win.
Like they played all over the calendar just to make
sure they didn't miss a single game during the pandemic,

(01:28:31):
and it opened their eyes. I think a lot of
the the old guard who were probably saying, hey, listen,
you know, we can't expand. And I'm sure there are
voices like that within the ownership community in the NFL.
We can't expand to all these days during the week.
We're gonna confuse our viewers. Nobody's confused. If you put
an NFL game on television, your viewers will find it,

(01:28:52):
and they have in droves. It doesn't matter what, what
time of the day or where, because the fan bases
are just so strong and the interest in fantasy football
is just insanely strong. By the way, I have a
new entry for a Coach of the Year in the NFL.
Jerry Rossberg of the Denver Broncos. Denver has taken a
seventeen to thirteen lead in Kansas City with six and

(01:29:17):
a half minutes to go in the third quarter. Russell
Wilson's playing better today. He hasn't thrown a pick eighteen
of fifty eight yards. He actually has a higher passer
rady in this game than Mahomes does. But if the
Chiefs were to lose today and Buffalo wins Monday night
in Cincinnati. That's it. Buffalo will clinch the number one
seed in the a f C because of course they

(01:29:39):
beat the Chiefs earlier this year head to head, so
that would clinch the number one seed for the Buffalo
bill So uh, Denver, all the noise about you know,
padded practice this week and everything else, and you get
rid of a hacket. Well they're playing well today. Um.
By the way, Chiefs only have twenty five yards rushing
in this game. That is a good Broncos defense. Um.

(01:30:01):
When you look ahead to Denver and whoever they're gonna
hire as a head coach. You know, we were talking
about the Sean Payton situation, right. Well, first of all,
he's already said Vic Fangio would be his defensive coordinator.
Remind me again, wasn't Vic Fangio the head coach of
the Denver Broncos. Correct? Okay, so he knows that Broncos defense.
Everyone says, well, does he really want to go there? Well, look,

(01:30:23):
you're Sean Payton, right. I would love to work with
Russell Wilson. I don't have to worry about the defense.
The defense is there, and I have a coach that
knows how to handle that defense. All I have to
do is to get Russell Wilson right, and suddenly we're
back in the conversation. Wouldn't that seem to be a
pretty decent place for Sean Payton to land? I I

(01:30:48):
don't think so, And I think, uh, I think it
really comes down to this. If you watch this season alone,
in terms of Russell Wilson and his output, it doesn't
to me at least appear that the problems were only
Nathaniel Hackett, Like there's something going on with Russ and now, yeah,
you could you could argue, okay, I could step in
there and fix it, and you may have that sort

(01:31:08):
of ego and self belief to get the job done.
But I would more carefully evaluate the crop of talent
coming out of college football, Like if I'm Sean Paynton,
I may be taking a close look at you know,
c J. Stroud and where he may end up, or
or Bryce Young or Will Levis or you know, look

(01:31:29):
at some of the talent that may be on the
move this year in free agency or trade, like Derek
Carr or Tom Brady, and I might put myself in
a situation where I can say, hey, listen, we are
a quarterback and a couple of pieces offensively away from
being a really good football team. We want you Tom Brady,
we want you Derek Carr. We need to, you know,

(01:31:49):
talk to your general manager. We need a draft X,
Y or Z in the draft, and that's how we
turn this ship around. That's what I think Sean Payne's
gonna be doing, not looking for a reclamation pro project
in Russell Wilson in Denver. Well. The thing about it
is when you have a family like the Walton family
that owns that team, they may come up with a
price tag that he can't refuse. Anybody can be bought. Now,

(01:32:12):
different questions. You know, I know I did, I did
test you, but I mean in terms of money. Yeah,
Like if they're willing to pay some Jon Gruden deal,
I was going I was gonna mention John Gruden. Uh,
make me an offer I can't refuse. That could be
the situation if Sean Payton were to land in Denver. Alright,
we're rolling on right now, We're heading into fourth quarter

(01:32:34):
action nine games around the NFL. Much more coming up.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox
Red Zone Radio, and we've got the place that you
may admits play face Wilson the pocket home run ball.
It's gonna wake what um touchdown Denver. Now back live

(01:32:58):
to the studios Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red
Zone Radio. All right, So that's KO A eight fifty
A M ninety four point one FM, Brocos Radio Network.
Broncos still lead the Chief seventeen thirteen inside two minutes
ago in the third quarter in that game. Welcome back

(01:33:19):
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We are live from the
tire Act dot Com studios. By the way, the Miami
Dolphins have benched Teddy Bridgewater. They've seen enough of Bridgewater,
although his numbers weren't all that bad twelve of nineteen
sixty one yards. But they have Skyler Thompson in the game. Uh.
By the way, I just I got the scenario. And

(01:33:40):
at the third quarter right now, New England leads Miami
sixteen to fourteen. Miami could actually clinch a playoff spot
today if they can win this game against New England
and then the Jets lose their game to the Seahawks. However,
if New England wins this game, then Miami needs help

(01:34:04):
next week. They would obviously have to win their last game. Uh,
and then they would have to hope that Buffalo beast
New England next week. So for a team that was
eight and three seemingly in fact, when they were eight
and three rich, they were talking about the number one seed,
remember that, I mean they were they were, they were
right there with Buffalo, uh for supremacy in the a

(01:34:28):
f C East. And and now they got to make
a decision on two a tongue of byla. I mean,
is he gonna play again this year after multiple concussions.
That's that's the biggest storyline of the NFL season right now,
in terms of heading into the playoffs. I mean, this
is an eight and seven football team. Like you said,
there's there There is no question that Miami, based on

(01:34:52):
how they started this season, could make noise in the
playoffs if they just get right at quarterback. But Day
haven't been for weeks. And it's largely because of two
his injuries. And we're not talking about injuries like oh, hey,
you know he's got a sore elbow like Josh Allen
or Matthew Stafford or you know, jeez. This is something no, no, no,

(01:35:13):
this is something that could affect the rest of his
life very easily. We've seen that many times before, and
this is something that um, you know, based on how
the Miami Dolphins handled his initial concussion this season, allowing
him to finish that game and then being concussed on
Thursday Night football against Cincinnati just a mere three days later.

(01:35:33):
You know that's that's uh, that's a part of this
conversation as well. Did Miami and their medical staff and
their failure to protect an athlete from himself lead to
basically the demise of their season and potentially the demise
of this young player's football career. All right, we have
just gotten a big turn of advance in this Carolina

(01:35:55):
Tampa Bay game. We're gonna play a highlight of a
Panther's touchdown and I look up. Mike Evans is in
the end zone after a fifty seven yard touchdown pass
Tom Brady Evans. I mentioned that stat earlier that Brady
had pass attempts of over ten yards this year and
only two touchdowns. Well, there's a third touchdown. Mike Evans
is been getting heat. He hasn't had the kind of

(01:36:16):
season he's had throughout his NFL career. A big touchdown there,
so right now Tampa is probably gonna go for two.
Did they go for two and they missed it, all right,
So the Panthers still eat the Buccaneers by a score
of sixteen. In fact, Sam, let's go back to that
previous score by the Carolina Panthers. Oh, you don't have it,

(01:36:39):
all right, So we don't have that one. Uh so
the Panthers, uh with By the way, Sam Donald rich
today is fifteen of twenty two, two twenty four yards,
three touchdowns, one pick. That's a pass rating of a
hundred and twenty two. Do you see a scenario where
all right, let's hear that Carolina touchdown? Donald of the
shotgun to be at the running back. Three, Watch shot

(01:37:01):
Smith of a slot to the right, DJ Moore coming
in motion, more coming across the formation, Donald throwing head
zone tops down Shy Smith at Carolina with a two
score lead. N seven of the Fox Panthers Radio Network.
So are they seeing enough out of Sam Donald late
in this season where they say let's give him a

(01:37:23):
shot again next year? I mean, he started the year,
got hurt, uh comes back, has played pretty well. What
do you do with Sam Donald if you're the Carolina Panthers. Well,
Carolina obviously has a quarterback they drafted they have to
take a long look at UM. I'm actually searching, uh,
Sam Donald's current contract that he's on at this point,

(01:37:45):
because I don't know how many years he has left. UM.
But let's see, Yeah, he'll he'll be signed through this
year and then he's an undrafted free or an unrestricted
free agent, so you have you have a situation where
he's a Baker Mayfe the same year they drafted the
same year, so they didn't get their options picked up. Yeah,
if if he has a great finish to this season,

(01:38:07):
is this is this a place he wants to play?
It's really up to Sam. You know, it's not up
to Carolina to keep him around. It's it's I mean,
they can offer him certainly, and and they'll have privy
to offer him right now if they want to. He's
currently under contract. But if Sam wants to test free
agency and see what else is out there for him, UM,
depending on how he finishes a season, that might be

(01:38:28):
intelligent because he could seek out a team that's looking
for a quarterback that needs a guy, a bridge quarterback
or potentially a starter next season on a you know,
a one or two year deal, probably looking for something
longer than than just a year. But yeah, I mean,
depending on how he finishes this season, Carolina is gonna
have to take close looking. A lot of teams are
gonna be interested. By the way, just to give you

(01:38:50):
an idea, Sam Donald is the same age as Stetson Bennett.
That's right. Yeah, they're twenty five years old. Um. Yeah,
I I think that I don't know what kind of
market there will be for Sam Donald. That's that's another
scenario that we haven't really played out, is is there
a market for Jimmy Garoppolo. Aret is gonna allow him

(01:39:10):
to get on the open will He's gonna be on
the open market. I mean, there's a lot of these quarterbacks.
Baker Mayfield, you know, suddenly is showing some signs that
maybe there is some life left in Baker Mayfield. Uh
do you go that route if you were some of
these teams right now and take another chance, Especially when
you're talking about guys like Mayfield and Sam Donald's twenty
five years old and he's still a kid. Maybe there's

(01:39:34):
something there. By the way, Tom Brady today is having
a heck of a game twenty five or thirty five
three d twenty seven yards, two touchdowns, no picks. You
mentioned the fact that it's over in Tampa. I I
don't see any scenario where he returns to the Buccaneers.
But if he does choose to continue his NFL career,

(01:39:55):
how much of a free agent market is there for
a forty six year old quarterback. Well, I mean, and
you already see the conversation about him potentially going to
Las Vegas. You already see the conversation about him potentially
going to San Francisco. Look, San Francisco right now has
a big decision to make this offseason. They have a
quarterback who's injured, who they traded a tremendous amount of

(01:40:18):
draft capital to get in the draft, who barely played
college football on tray Lance like, like the most significant
football tray Lance has played throughout his life is at
the high school level. I mean, let's let's be very
honest about that. Um tremendous potential. You know, definitely a
high caliber athlete, but we have no idea what kind

(01:40:38):
of quarterback he can be at this level. Brock Purty
is a third string quarterback. He's the last pick of
the draft, and unless he does something absolutely outstanding, uh
in the postseason. My guess is they're going to be
looking for a player at quarterback or sticking with Trey Lance.
And you know there's a list now of players who
will be available at quarterback. You mentioned Sam Arnold, Tom Brady,

(01:41:01):
potentially Zach Wilson if the Jets are looking to trade him,
Baker Mayfield, Baker Mayfield. I'm I'm thinking though, if you're
looking at the built how the San Francisco forty Niners
are built, and how Tom Brady has taken less money
salary wise to gain more from a team standpoint, especially
down the stretch of his career, he makes a lot

(01:41:23):
of sense to go to the Bay Area. Alright, Kansas
City's back on top, Homestill thrown over the medal, wide open,
Blake Girl reaching out, rolling into the end zone. If
we're gonna give a Torn touchdown? All right? That's one
of six five the Wolf and the Chief's radio network.
So the Chiefs regained the lead twenty to seventeen over
the Denver Broncos. Fourth quarter is just underway. Welcome to

(01:42:06):
It is a busy day for months. Nine games going
on right now, and then you have your fantasy team
and the championship game. So your head spinning right now.
And by the way, I didn't ask you how is
your New Year's because we know what you did on
you know, a week ago. Oh yeah, and then I
love to Vegas after working seven days in a row

(01:42:27):
with three doubles between here and we're still working at
the Dodgers, So I love to Vegas. I ate my
body weight in food and alcohol, and so yesterday was
pretty chill for me. I actually only had one beer.
I was awake at midnight, but I was like getting
ready to go to bed. It was it was fun.
I spent it with the family. I saw my nephew
who was just a little adorable, little terror but you

(01:42:51):
know another reason I'm not having children, and seen him
running around, I'm likesolutely not so adorable. They're adorable, but
they're adorable because I could just give him back to
the parents. All of his parents find out. Yes, when
you're the parent, you can't give him back. No you can't. Yeah,
they follow you home, yes, every single time. Seven. Yeah,

(01:43:15):
but it's great. He's so stink and cute and I
love him so much. But I will like to say,
I was, you know, talking to you see before the show,
I was really talking a lot of smack about Mike Evans.
I would like to apologize for everything I said about
Mike Evans before ten am. Because he has eight receptions
a hundred and seventy yards and two touchdowns and thirty
points for me in my Fantasy championship game. So touchdown?

(01:43:41):
Is that? Is that enough to get? Because you still
have a lot of players later on, you do? I do,
so victory. Right now, it's still close. I'm playing. They
have Josh Allen, so you know I need to be
up by like fifteen Cincinnati. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it's not.
It's not. It's not, it's not. But you know, I
Josh Allen has won my league several years ago, so

(01:44:03):
my team and you know, so it's like I I
know he can do it, so I wouldn't be comfortable
unless I'm up by fifty, to be honest with you.
So we'll see, We'll see how this goes. But yes,
the Panthers are still beating the Buccaneers despite Mike Evans
performance so far along with Tom Brady who's for three
seven yards and two touchdowns. But the Panthers are up
twenty one to sixteen ten minutes to go in the game.
The Browns still have a lead on the Commander's twenty

(01:44:25):
four to ten, four minutes to go in the game,
and then the jack Quars have been all over the
Texans this whole game. I mean, the Texans just have
a field goal twenty eight to three, ten minutes to
go in that one. The Saints and the Eagles, it's
been a close one this whole game, but the Saints
are still up thirteen to ten about halfway through the
fourth quarter, while the Giants have dominated the Colts thirty
eight to ten, also about halfway through the fourth on

(01:44:48):
that one. The Dolphins and the Patriots, this one has
been close as well, and the Patriots are up sixteen
to fourteen early in the fourth quarter. Dolphins say that
quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has an injured finger on his right
hand and he's questionable to return. With the Chiefs up
on the Broncos twenty to seventeen early in the fourth
and the lat Hands, who have just been dominating the
Bears thirty eight to ten, nine minutes to go in

(01:45:10):
the game. The Cardinals and the Falcons, this one's been fun.
Atlanta just hit a field goal to take the lead
back from the Cardinals, so they're up seventeen to sixteen
early in the fourth quarter. And for the games that
are happening after these ones, Christian Watson is active for
the Packers today, who are hosting the Vikings, and the
Seahawks will have both wide receiver Tyler Lockett and running
back Kenneth Walker. We are hosting the Jets. Back to

(01:45:32):
you guys, all right, Monsty, thank you very much. One
game we have not talked at all about because no
one cares, and that is the Falcons and the Cardinals.
Rich Falcons just kicked a field goal to take the
seventeen sixteen lead. But each year in the NFL, normally
we got six or seven coaching vacancies. This past season
we had ten, ten and that's a third of the

(01:45:55):
league hired new coaches before this season began. These two coaches,
Lift Kingsbury and Arthur Smith. Cardinals came in after a
playoff season sitting at four and eleven. Falcons going nowhere,
Mariotte's done. They got the kid Ridder in there right now,
not are doing much offensively. What do you think about
Arthur Smith Cliff Kingsbury. Are they secure to come back

(01:46:18):
in Um? No, probably not. Um I would I would
say that Arthur Smith's name definitely is on the hot seat. Now. Look,
I I don't I don't necessarily think that it's it's
the wisest choice to to change coaches as quickly as
a lot of these NFL organizations. But yeah, look, I

(01:46:41):
mean you you have a season that's going very similarly
record wise for the Falcons as last year. You know,
if they find a way to win today, you know,
they improved to six wins. I think they had seven
last season if I'm remembering correctly. It's just been that
kind of career so far the head coach for Arthur Smith. Now,
in terms of Cliff Kingsbury, Yeah, it's been disappointing in

(01:47:05):
the second half of virtually every season. He's ever been
a head coach. But you just signed up for six
more years not too long ago, so you're gonna have
to eat a tremendous amount of that contract if you
fire them right now. So look, just predicated on my
thought process that you can't build a culture in just
a season or two, like you probably need parts of

(01:47:28):
or the entirety of year three in order to do that.
Um yeah, I I I think it's probably too soon
on Arthur Smith. And in terms of Cliff Kingsbury, I
think contractually the Cardinals are going to give him another
year just because it would be too expensive to let
him go. All right, So, bad teams know how to
lose games, like we saw that with the Colts the
other day against the Vikings. Another team showing that is

(01:47:51):
the Denver Broncos. So we had the Chiefs touchdown, they
get the ball back first play, Russell Wilson throws an interception,
can City gets the ball right back for plays later
another touchdown. So suddenly what was a seventeen third team
Broncos lead is now a twenty seven to seventeen Chiefs lead. Well,
let's just face it, what's happening here in this game?

(01:48:13):
Is a regression to the mean. Now, what are the
Denver Broncos on average? They're very subpoor, subpar offense, and
Russell Wilson has been a subpar quarterback this season. Conversely,
the Chiefs have been an excellent offense this season. So
you're seeing regression to the means on both side. You're
seeing um, You're seeing the Denver Broncos come back down

(01:48:36):
to earth, and you're seeing the Kansas City Chiefs progress
to the type of team that they typically are offensively
where they can score on you and bunches, and they
are here as the fourth quarters underway, and they've scored quickly.
One big story today is the quarterback matchup in Washington.
Deshaun Watson is nine of eighteen a hundred sixty nine yards,

(01:48:59):
three touchdowns, no picks. Carson Wentz is fifteen hundred thirty
three yards, no touchdowns in three picks. That's why the
Browns are winning this game to ten. Here here's their
latest score in the shotgun. It is watching with Chubbing's right.
Hit ups from the Commander thirty crew with the play
actually faced watching up in the pocket, Look at Cooper's

(01:49:20):
right open caught it ted he's at the five. He
cuts in the paylog touchdown Marie Cooper his second of
the day Brown's Radio Network. So Marie Cooper three catches
under in five yards, two touchdowns. Nick Chubb fourteen carries
a hundred four yards. DeShawn Watson three touchdowns and no interceptions.

(01:49:40):
That is what the Cleveland Browns are hoping for offensively. Meanwhile,
Carson Wentz disaster. I mean, this was an absolute must
win for the Commanders today and he just awful. And
so this puts the Commanders in a position now where

(01:50:00):
they're in trouble. And with the Lions winning big today,
Lions are suddenly very much in the driver's seat. The
only thing the Lions really need right now is Seattle
going up against the Jets. Now, there's another team we
haven't talked much about, and that's the New York Jets,
another team that has been on a free fall after

(01:50:21):
a miraculous start to their season. Rich the Jets. Let
me remind myself here, the Jets at one point, we're
at seven and four. They had a four game winning
streak early in the year. They're now seven and eight.
They've lost four in a row. The Zach Wilson situation
is not possible. Uh, Mike White, of course is going
to get the opportunity. Are they done with Zach Wilson.

(01:50:44):
I mean they're trying to maintain an attitude, but we
haven't given up on Zach Wilson. The team has given
up on Zach Wilson. They just do not look like
the same team when he's on the field then other
guys when they're at quarterback around the field. Now, I
I guarantee what they're trying to do is hedge their bets.
And what I mean by that is they're definitely going

(01:51:04):
to be shopping Zach Wilson, to trade him away, to
find a team that's willing to invest and potentially try
to figure him out because there's potential there. He was
one of those quarterbacks coming out of college and you've
seen it at the NFL level where I mean, he
puts some real NFL zip on the football. He can

(01:51:26):
make any throw in the field. But is he a
locker room guy he exeed or does he have the makeup? Look?
There are teams who will have had Zach Wilson extremely
high on their draft board and fell in love with him,
and if he fell to their draft spot, they would
have taken Zach Wilson, I promise you that. And and
sometimes those feelings, you know, they continue after a quarterback

(01:51:48):
has already scooped up by a team, and if he
comes available in trade, especially if you could grab Zach
Wilson for a bargain, all of a sudden you have
a team seriously considering bringing him in. And so that
outs I think are trying to hatch their bets. They're
trying to say, like, oh no, we we love Zach,
We're still working with Zach. We want what's best for
the football team right now, and what's best is Mike

(01:52:09):
White starting in this game. But at the same time,
on the other hand, they're saying, well, if Zack ends
up sticking with us, we do have to sort of
just play nice here. But if we can, let's just
shop a trade quietly on the sidelines here, and if
we can move him this offseason, all the better. Right now,
Monsey is going delirious somehow. Mike Evans just got his

(01:52:31):
third touchdown catch of the day and a two point
conversion later in Tampa has taken a lead over Carolina.
Mike Evans and Monsey was dogging him before the show. Today,
he's nine catches for two hundred yards and three touchdowns.
Nine catches, two hundred yards and three touchdowns. Tom Brady

(01:52:52):
is now thrown for four hundred and eighteen yards in
this game, three touchdowns and no pick. So Tampa Bay
has finally taken the lead in this game. They've been
trailing the entire game, but twenty one Tampa with the
lead over the Carolina Panthers. Wow, what a day for Brady.
What a day for Mike Evans who really has been

(01:53:13):
a wall by his standards, rich you know what, seven
straight thousand yards seasons to begin his career. Uh, and
everything's working today in a game obviously Tampa needs to win. Well,
I'll say this. You know, Mike Evans was looking for
his ninth season to go over a thousand yards receiving
um and he's completed that. And you know, Tom Brady

(01:53:34):
is aware of legacies. You know that he cares about
stats and numbers and figures. He wouldn't have done this
as long as he has if he didn't understand legacies. So,
I mean, part of the game week, I'm sure dialing
up plays from Mike Evans downfield who's had a case
of the drops this year. There have been so many

(01:53:54):
passes that have come Mike Evans way that have gone
in and out of his hands, perfectly thrown balls. And
you know you mentioned that statistic about Tom Brady and
how often the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been able to
stretch the field and he has this lower percentage of
throws down field as opposed to past years. Well that's
because their number one receiving target downfield has had one

(01:54:16):
of his worst seasons in terms of catch percentage. So yeah, huge,
huge game for Mike Evans. How about this that So
in the first fifteen games, Tom Brady only had one
touchdown pass over fifteen yards. One he has three today,
fifty seven yards, sixty three yards, and thirty yards, all
to Mike Evans. So Carolina would get the ball. Let's

(01:54:38):
see if there's a little magic coming up from Sam
Donald on the other side. All right, we're coming down
the stretch here, folks. Big games around the NFL, lots
of playoff implications. Keep it right here. This is Fox
Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio,
and we've got the plays that you may admit. So

(01:55:02):
Carolina thirties, first down ten, Brady takes the staff and
looks toward his way. Those tord deavits toward the end zone.
Evans Andre Mexicots touch ups Hava by favors House three
fire account its fire him. Now back live to the
studios of Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio,

(01:55:28):
all right, So that's Buccaneers Radio network. As you mentioned,
the Buccaneers leave the Panthers twenty four to twenty one.
The Buccaneers are facing a fourth down situation right now
with two forty eight to go in the fourth quarter.
As Tom Brady got sacked, he's not happy about that.
So Carolina is going to get the ball back and

(01:55:51):
let's see if they can work some magic again. The
Panthers are one of those teams that actually control their
own destiny if they win at Tampa today a and
at New Orleans next week. Meanwhile, Rich I'm watching this
game between the Dolphins and the Patriots, and the Patriots
now have taken a twenty three to fourteen lead. If

(01:56:13):
the Patriots win today, they can clinch a playoff spot
by winning next week. The problem is that game is
at Buffalo and that could be a must win for
Buffalo if they want to catch clints to the number
one seed. So it's not like Buffalo is gonna roll
over in that game with the Chiefs seemingly on their
way to victor. Although the Broncos are back, the Broncos

(01:56:36):
are back. It's now twenty four Chiefs leading the Broncos.
Uh So the Patriots could win this week against the Dolphins,
lose next week to Buffalo and still get in the playoffs.
But then I have to break down all kinds of
different scenarios. That's the one thing I love about Week eighteen,
Rich is that you finally have a checklist, Like, alright,

(01:56:57):
so we got one or two slots left the playoffs.
This team is in if they win. If they don't,
this team wins there, and you know, you sort of
cross off the list so it makes a little easier.
So there's there's a lot of different scenarios right now.
But as far as Miami's concerned, they're in deep trouble. Yeah, yeah,
no question about it. And on a uh what was it?
A second and tent throw? Skyler Thompson looking to cross

(01:57:20):
over midfield with this Miami Dolphins offense against the New
England Patriots, who they're trailing right now by nine points.
He throws an incomplete pass meant for surefield, so that
brings up third and ten. So yeah, the hopes of
them coming back and winning this game against the Pats
maybe diminishing in terms of the Dolphins, but the Patriots,
like you said, they get this victory. Um. Oh, we

(01:57:43):
just had a big development. Sam Darnald doing what he
does best, turn the ball over, went back to pass,
he got hit, fumbled, the ball recovered by Tampa Bay.
To to go. They're inside the Carolina ten yard line,
and it looks like Tampa Bay is gonna go to
win this game, uh and once again secure their position

(01:58:05):
of a team in control to get themselves into the postseason.
Sam Donald going back to his USC days in the
NFL on, hang on, not so fast though, because let's
let's face it. I mean, Tampa Bay. Where did they
get the ball back? Oh? No, no, they're on the
Carolina six six yard line. It's in the six year line.
They punched in the games over I can say, well, okay,

(01:58:27):
but this brings up the larger conversation again. See we've
been talking about this Tampa Bay non existent offense and
at least in this game. And again, we're not talking
about a juggernaut team in the Carolina Panthers. This is
a team that was literally given up for dead. They
fired their coach, you know, they traded away their best player.
It seemed like they were a team that was just
playing out the string, and suddenly they won a couple

(01:58:49):
of games. Uh. Tampa Bay, by the way, is right
on the doorstep touchdown Leonard for NET. So that's gonna
put this game away. So let's get back to the
old play of Tom Brady, most likely, assuming Tampa wins
out in they win this division, hosting a playoff game

(01:59:11):
against the Dallas Cowboys, most likely Dallas. Going back into Tampa,
let's remove all contacts for a second, and let's just
say who do you trust more? Doc on the road
in a playoff game or Tom Brady at home in
a playoff game. All right, I'll ask you that question.
Who do you trust more? Wait? Wait, wait, I asked
you I ridiculous. Whatever happened two years ago when they won?

(01:59:37):
I told you that I would never ever, ever, ever
go against Tom Brady again in a postseason situation. That's
that is the correct answer. Look, I listen you. That
is gospel to my ears. Tom Brady, regardless of circumstances,
regardless of the team. Now, as he's moved on from
the Patriots and had success with the Tampa Bay by Bucaneers,

(02:00:00):
you cannot count out the best player who's ever done it,
the most clutch player who's ever done it. Yeah, I'm
with you. I mean, who do I trust more of
the Dallas Cowboys on the road or the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers with Tom Brady hosting the Dallas coups. It's the
Bucks and I'm very curious what the spread would be
on that game, Very very curious. Thirty five and twelve.

(02:00:24):
That is Tom Brady's career record in the postseason. Thirty
five and twelve. That's pretty decent. I mean, seriously, of
all of his records, that's the most impressive. It's it's
five and twelve as a starting quarterback in the postseason.
So Tampa Bay right now in a position to move

(02:00:47):
on and continue their run to the postseason. All right,
we got some exciting finishes coming up around the nfls
We mentioned a lot of playoffs scenarios. Don't go anywhere,

should be now earlier. Right before the break, we had
mentioned a Leonard for net touchdown. Upon review, he came

(02:01:54):
up short of the goal line, so Tom Brady did
the work. From that point. He snuck it in for
the touchdown. So the Buccaneers lead the Panthers thirty to
one inside two minutes to go. In that game, Pats
still leading the dolphinsee to fourteen at the two minute
warning and the game that's going down to the wire
here Chiefs and Broncos. Chiefs have a three point lead,

(02:02:15):
but they have the ball a minute thirteen to go
right there. Rich The Eagles lost today twenty to ten
to the Saints. So that's back to back losses for
this Philadelphia Eagles team, and the Dallas Cowboys still have
a chance to win the NFC East. Um does this

(02:02:37):
derail the Eagles at all? I mean, they've been playing
such great football. Uh, Their record was not an accident.
They were really playing as well as any team around
the NFL on both sides of the ball. And all
of a sudden, Jalen Hurts goes out. He missed a
couple of games, They lose a couple of games. Is
all that? Egual? And I'm gone? Can they get it back?

(02:03:00):
Can they get it? Can they get it back? Is? Um? Is? Uh?
Is a question that honestly, I think resides with the
health of Jalen Hurts. You know, look, he's gonna bring
the momentum back whenever he gets to the field, But
when is he going to get to the field. He's
expected to be available, per sources for Week eighteen as

(02:03:21):
the Philadelphia Eagles look to close out what has been
an insanely memorable regular season, but they're looking for so
much more. And this is a city that recently got
to enjoy its first ever Super Bowl victory. Um Nick
Foles was the hero of that game, sort of one
of those underdog characters that stepped through um the doors

(02:03:42):
for the Eagles at the right time, in the right place.
When Carson Wentz went down with the injury, he was
having a phenomenal season in his own right. Jalen Hurts
is another underdog story and I'm very curious to see
how he helps to see. This team finished the season
against the Giants, and um, that's an important game. It's
a it's an awesome opportunity since you draw the Giants

(02:04:03):
at home to finish up the season strong. Yeah, I
don't think they've lost uh momentum. I think what they've
lost is their starting quarterback and Gardner Minshew put up
a great fight against the Cowboys, but that was a
loss for the Philadelphia Eagles. Um, he didn't look nearly
the way he did against the Saints defense today, who

(02:04:25):
did just enough to win with Andy Dalton. So I'm
excited to see Jalen Hurts out there, and if he's
at full strength, we can assume an Eagles victory if
this team hasn't been too damaged by the back to
back losing weekends. All right, So I got a couple
of updates for you. The Giants clinched a playoffs spot
with their blowout victory today thirty eight to ten over

(02:04:47):
the Colts. So on the a f C side and
the NFC side, each conference has six of the seven
slots filled. Now as far as Sedien is concerned, he
could change, but at least those teams are in. Let
me give you an update of what's going on right
now with the Packers. So we had mentioned earlier, and
this was an erroneous report that if the Giants won,

(02:05:09):
the Packers were eliminated. That is not what happened now. Obviously,
if the Packers lose to the Vikings today, they're eliminated.
But if the Packers win against the Vikings today, the
Commanders are eliminated. Commanders losing today at home to the

(02:05:30):
Cleveland Browns, so the Packers are still breathing barely. But
if they were to beat the Vikings today in Green Bay,
the Commanders who came into the day in that seventh
slot would be eliminated, eliminated. So right now in the NFC, Rich,

(02:05:51):
if you look at the standings, and obviously a lot
of games still to be played today, right now, that
seventh slot is Detroit there at eight and eight. The
Packers are at seven eight, the Seahawks are at seven
and eight. Um, so again a lot to be played there.
And then on the A f C side, it's it's similar.
There's so many different scenarios. Uh, it's it's hard to

(02:06:12):
figure it all out, but we'll try to figure out
best for you. All Right, let's get that Buck's final score.
You got lettered four net in the backfield. Now until
the quarterbacks say, Brady takes it in four A. Isn't
a touchdown? Mr Reff? Is it a Come on now, Reff,
Come on, Mr Reff. He got into the empty not
get into the end zone. Come on, Brad Rod, this
touchdown Tampa Bay. Tom Brady does his thing far the

(02:06:35):
cannons again. Wow, what a fourth quarter? Yeah, Buccaneers Radio Network.
By the way, Brady thirty forty five four and thirty
two yards, three touchdowns, note picks and a rushing touchdown.
Not a bad day for the forty five year old quarterback.
Iowa Sam has something to add. This is only the
second time this season that the Buccaneers have hit thirty

(02:06:56):
points or more, and their highest point total of the
year was thirty one points in a loss to the Chiefs. Well,
they were twenty nine in the league and scoring they're
they're they're scoring is almost cut in half from last year.
There were thirty points last year, seventeen points this year,
right all season and it's been consistent to bonanza for them. Well,
the question is is it Tampa or is it Carolina?

(02:07:17):
Obviously a little bit of both. If you watched Mike Evans,
I don't know who that corner was for Carolina, but
he was awful today. Yeah, he he had a tough day. Um,
there's no question about it. He burned. He got burned
twice big by Mike Evans. And look, the Carolina Panthers
right now are putting together a little bit of a drive.
Too little, too late unfortunately for them, as even if

(02:07:40):
they score and get the two point conversion, they're gonna
have to turn around and on side kick it to
have a chance. So it looks like the Bucks are
going to win this football game. And like we discussed earlier,
you know, if this Buck's offense has woken up for real, right,
you know, if this thirty points that they've scored today,
which was the most this season outside of the law

(02:08:00):
or no, no, that's the most they've scored this season, um,
outside of the loss to the Chiefs earlier in the year,
much earlier in the year, game four in the year. Um,
if they went on the road at Atlanta and the
offense looks this productive again, holy smokes. I mean, all
of a sudden, you have a nine win Tampa Bay

(02:08:21):
Buccaneers team looking pretty pretty inert heading into the postseason.
And by that, I mean having inertia in the right direction,
getting their offense put together late but in time for
the postseason. We're broadcasting live from the tirack dot Com

The way tire buying should be all right. The Miami
Dolphins have scored Skoleet Thompson through a touchdown pass extra
point is good. So there's a minute four to go.
Miami obviously will on sidekick New England leading this game
by a score of twin three to one. Uh and

(02:09:03):
again looking at the a f C. Right now, you
have Miami, you have New England, you have the Jets.
The Steelers technically have not been eliminated. I mean there's
a lot going on here, a lot going on as
we head down to the final games of this NFL season,
now that we are celebrating three al Right, so Caroline

(02:09:25):
is gonna go for a forty four yard field goal attempt.
They would have to onsite kick either way, and he
misses the kick. Just whoofed? Wow? That is uh glee.
You're looking for a new job after that debacle? Well,
I mean, I mean, you I have forty four yard
field goal in the NFL. If you can't make that
kick when your team needs it, there's other kickers out

(02:09:47):
there that I'm sure could make that. Oh yeah, listen, yeah,
you can't very expendable, you can't depend you can't depend
on the guy to knock through anything basically under forty
five yards these days. Then then you're you're probably searching
for a john. Now what is going on? Here? Is
he going to get another chance? What happened here was
their penalty? Was what happened here? Did Tampa? They didn't

(02:10:11):
freeze him? They're up nine? How is he getting a
second chance of this that they just said? You know, dude,
we'll give you another chance. You know, I don't think
that's how it works. Well, it's his second one is good?
Oh it was a five yard penalty. I guess they
had a delay of game. Can you believe this? So

(02:10:34):
delay of game four yarder? But he hits the forty
nine yarder. That's exactly what happened, alright, So a delay
of game at is unreal? Alright? So or maybe it
was an illegal I didn't see. The penalty was a
five yard penalty against the Panthers. Moved to back five yards.
He makes it so they're gonna have an on side
kick fifty nine seconds ago and the Panthers looking for

(02:10:56):
a miracle here trailing the Buccaneers by a score of
thirty to twenty four. Yeah, I mean when we look
at some of the when you look at the a
f C right now, Rich, it's clear that the Bills,
Chiefs and Bengals are on another level. Right, and then
you got everybody else on the NFC side. We thought
the Eagles are there, but without a healthy Jalen Hurts,

(02:11:18):
maybe not. No one believes in the Vikings, nobody. It
doesn't matter how many games they win forty Niners, yes,
but you got a Mr Irrelevant as your quarterback Dallas,
I mean, and then all of a sudden you throw
Tom Brady in the mix. To me, the NFC all
of a sudden is like, what am I looking at here?

(02:11:39):
Oh dude, what am I looking at in the NFC?
Because I would be shocked if any team other than
the Bill's Cheeze or Bengals comes out of the a
f C. But in the NFC, I what am I
looking at here? Well? I mean, and it just stands
to rationalize, like if if Tampa, for example, you know,
and Tom Brady hosting the Dallas Cowboys win that game,

(02:12:02):
I mean, who do you who do you believe more?
Do you believe? Do you believe in Tom Brady and
the Bucks on the road? By the way, the Buccaneers
have recovered the on site kicks, so that's over there
you go. Or do you believe in Kirk Cousin hosting
the Bucks. You know, it's just one of those things.
It's like again, you know, say this all gets washed

(02:12:22):
out into a situation where it's the Buccaneers in San
Francisco forty Niners for the NFC champel Let's let's play
us out right now, all right, So Tampa would play Dallas.
Let's assume Tampa beats Dallas, then they would have to
play at the Eagles, all right, would be the four
seed versus the one seed, and then the forty Niners
go to Minnesota and the winner of those games would

(02:12:43):
play in the NFC championship game. So let's say he
beats Dallas, he goes to Philadelphia. Just I mean, I'll
put it this way. If he goes to the Philadelphia
and I assume the Eagles have Jalen Hurts back and
he wins that game. Yeah, at That's my point is
is you're you're looking at this playoffs, You're looking at

(02:13:05):
this playoffs situation. And I'm not saying that the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers are good enough team to win a Super
Bowl this season, because what's waiting for them on the
a f C side of this this coin is pretty treacherous.
But I am looking at the NFC and thinking to myself,
is there a route for Tom Brady to make it
to a Super Bowl? Wasn't it treacherous when they played Kcy,

(02:13:26):
defending Super Bowl champions two years ago? How that game playoff? Well?
It was? But I mean again, it's like they had
they had the home field and much better, much better
team that year, much more composed team that year than
than this year. You know, and and but I will
say this at the same token, like the game where
they scored the most points until today was against the Chiefs,

(02:13:48):
game four of the regular season. So yeah, the way
it's chicken out. The NFC is up for grabs. We'll
see how the Eagles look though, when Jalen Hurts returns.
They were exceptional all year long until he stepped aside,
so we'll see what they look like when he gets healthy.
All right, we continue on with all our coverage of
NFL football. By the way, games that are just under way.

(02:14:08):
The Raiders have taken a seven nothing lead over the
forty Niners. Seahawks seven nothing lead over the Jets. Keep
it right here. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
This is Fox Red Zone Radio, and we've got the
place that you may have missed play actions did a
rolling out to the right towards the ends of the walls.

(02:14:35):
Now back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio.
This is Fox Red Zone Radio. All right, Well that
was Raider Nation Radio nine a m. Raiders took an
early seven nothing lad against the forty Niners. The forty
Niners have tied the score. Meanwhile, Caroline has one blast
play to try to win this game against Tampa. We

(02:14:59):
got the BT is on the field. The bat is
on the field. Oh wait, there's still alive. Oh that's
a fore pas. Wow. That was Unbelievabley actually had it
going for about thirty yards. Those never works ever ever
worked your tell against Stanford? Did against Stanford? Um? All right,

(02:15:24):
so that is finally the end of the game. What
Carolina actually had three time outs left, so they were
forcing the Buccaneers to punt. Then the Buccaneers punter dropped
the ball and then he kicked it, but he was
beyond the line of scrimmage, so they had to re
kick it. Uh, And that's how it played out. So
the Buccaneers officially beat the Panthers by a score a

(02:15:44):
thirty four. Hey, I want to get back to the
Raiders for a second year. Rich because and once again
we're here in the tire irack dot com studios. Jared Stidham,
who was a former Patriot and obviously learned initially under
Josh McDaniels, was signed on by the Raiders this year
opening drive against the forty Niners three or three fifty

(02:16:05):
eight yards on the touchdown pass. Ye now, yeah, I
I yeah. We've we've been thinking, all right, we know
Derek Carr's gone. Okay, that's a given. Derek Carr is
no longer going to be the quarterback. We talked about
Tom Brady maybe exiting Tampa and coming to Vegas for
a year. That'll be a lot of fun for him.
Maybe he's a single guy. Now, um, but what about

(02:16:28):
Jared Stidham. What do we know about this guy? Is
this a guy that Josh McDaniels actually sees any kind
of future in. I'm most likely not. Um. Look, you
know this is um. This is sort of the same
question on both sides of this. Uh this game like
as Brock Party. The long term answer for the forty
Niners is Jared Stidham. The long term answer for the

(02:16:49):
Raiders answer is most likely no. And in fact, what's
interesting about this game is both of these teams are
viable landing spots for Tom Brady, you know what I mean?
Like it really is like the Raiders are going to
be searching for somebody who they can plug in at
quarterback and go and win twelve games next year. Like
like Josh McDaniels needs to have a big season next year,

(02:17:12):
otherwise potentially he'll be looking for his next job. You know.
In terms of Kyle Shanahan, he needs a quarterback who's
going to be and look, unless they've discovered the next
Tom Brady, for example, in Brock Purty, they're going to
be They're going to need to find the guy who
can navigate them through the postseason and win a super Bowl,
because that is the missing part of Kyle Shanahan's resume.

(02:17:36):
He got to the Super Bowl, and Matt Ryan he
was in charge of and responsible for, in part, the
best seasons Matt Ryan has ever played in professional football,
likewise for Jimmy Garoppolo, but both of those quarterbacks couldn't
win him a Super Bowl? Is Brock Purdy the guy
most likely? Not so? In my opinion, both of these

(02:17:57):
teams are looking for a quarterback next year, unless unless
the forty Niners are commenced that Tray Lance is the guy,
which so far they haven't shown signs that they believe
that Tray Lance is the guy. Again, I get so
caught up in mock drafts and everything else, and I'm
looking at some of the early predictions right now. Uh,
the Seahawks, by the way of taking a ten, nothing

(02:18:19):
laid over the Jets. Jets are done. They're just finished.
Um wow. I mean that's remember we were just talking
about the miracle of the Jets season, but it was
all about their defense. I mean, they have a great defense,
but the quarterback situation is is not gonna but work
for them. But the Seahawks are sitting there with Gino Smith,
who made the Pro Bowl this year, and they have

(02:18:40):
right now what is going to be projected to be
the third pick in the draft. So if you're the Seahawks,
and let's say the Bryce Young goes first to the Texans,
and let's say the Bears go with either Will Anderson
or Jalen Carter, the big defensive lineman out of Georgia,
they go defense. Satisfied with the idea that justin fields

(02:19:01):
can play quarterback, Seahawks, do you go quarterback there? Or
do you take Carter or Anderson who's not taken by
the Bears as a big impact guy in your defense?
I mean, when you look at a guy like Will
Anderson and the kind of impact that a big time
edge guy can do for your team, man, I don't know.

(02:19:22):
I mean, look what Nick Bosa men to the forty Niners, right,
you get a dynamic edge guy. I don't know if
I pass on that well and and roll the dice
that maybe Geno Smith can do it again that this
wasn't just an aberration. But but again, Steve, you're living
in this world. We talked about this with the Detroit Lions,
where you have to choose one or the You don't

(02:19:42):
like chances. You don't know with these rookie quarter but
you don't know that it's going to be that guy.
But listen, I agree with you that they could and
probably should grab somebody to help improve their defense um
with their first first round pick. But they have a
another pick available for them to use in the first round,

(02:20:03):
so they can go back in and say even trade
up if there's a quarterback that's falling or they can
stay at wherever they are. I think it's gonna be seventeen. Um,
you know, in terms of if they're the first team
out of the NFC postseason, which we'll see, I mean,
if they stay in the postseason picture, all those things.
But if they're selecting at seventeen and that's their pick,

(02:20:24):
not the one from the Broncos that's gonna be a
high pick, but their pick at seventeen, if there's a
QB there, go get him, you know, go get him
and then have Geno Smith sort of help be the
bridge quarterback that he was sort of hired to be
in the first place. And and that makes a lot
of makes sense to me. I agree with you. That's

(02:20:46):
but when I here's the thing that these teams get
really bad. And when when you have a top three pick.
I'm not talking like fifteen or sixteen or seventeen, right, Okay,
yeah you want to, But if you have a top
three pick and you roll the dice on a quarterback
like the Jets did with Zach Wilson, I mean, it's
like this endless list of teams that have used top

(02:21:08):
three picks on a quarterback that turns out to be
a whole bus. That sets you back several years because
you know there were other players that you could have
taken there, but you thought, man, this is the guard.
This is a guy that's our franchise quarterback. We gotta
go for it, and if he doesn't pan out, it's
a disaster. Well. Well, here's the other thing about the

(02:21:28):
Seahawks is it may not be in their control. Like
Geno Smith is on a one year deal. You know
that he's, uh, he's gonna be unrestricted free agent this
this offseason, and maybe he doesn't want to resign with Seattle.
Maybe Seattle doesn't want to compete with the free agent
market that's available out there for Geno Smith and he
moves on with his career elsewhere. Well, in that situation,

(02:21:51):
if a team wants to take a chance and signed
Gino to a two or three year contract to help
them stabilize things wherever else, he may end up somewhere
and then you have to take one of these top
ranking quarterbacks out of the draft because what is Drew
Lock going to be your savior? So look at the Seahawks.
They may be in a situation where, you know, the

(02:22:12):
circumstances forced their hand to take one of these top
ranked quarterbacks in the draft. By the way, the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, with their win today against Carolina, officially clinched
the NFC South. Caroline has been eliminated. Saints still have
a chance at a wild card. They need a lot
of things to play in their favor, but it is official.

(02:22:33):
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady are in the playoffs.
They will be the four seed, most likely hosting the
Dallas Cowboys in wild Card Week. All right, Welcome to

out what is trending right now and a very happy month.
See how many points did you have to actually get
out of Mike Evans today? This is a standard League,
not PPR, and I think the last I checked he

(02:23:15):
had forty. Let me confirm which is a ton? Yes,
he gave me for Stard and you were basically thinking zero. No,
I was thinking like six. He hadn't really done this
all season. I mean I said so many bad things
about it to Steve before. So this is what happens
to me. I say bad things about people during the show,

(02:23:37):
during games, and then all of a sudden, I look
up and they've, like, you know, thrown three touchdowns, scored
three They respawned to that. Yeah, totally right. No, but
I had been talking snack all season and he hadn't responded.
Decided to respond, probably in the most important week for me,
So thank you, Mike Evans. Yes, the Buccaneers held on,
defeated the Panthers have won the NFC South. This is

(02:23:58):
the nineteenth division title four the Buccaneers, the most in
NFL history. Tom Brady put on a show along with
Mike Evans. Tom Brady threw for four thirty two yards
and three touchdowns. All of those touchdowns went to Mike Evans,
who had ten receptions two hundred and seven yards and
those touchdowns. We got some current games going on, like
the Seahawks who needed just ninety seconds to score their

(02:24:19):
first touchdown. They've also added a field goal, so they're
beating the Jets ten zero with less than five minutes
to go in the first quarter. The Raiders and the
forty Niners are tied at seven with a little over
two minutes to go in the first quarter. But the
Raiders are knocking on the door. They might be scoring again.
The Vikings and the Packers just got going their scoreless
and so are the Rams and the Chargers scoreless. The

(02:24:39):
other games that finished already in the NFL, like the Giants,
who are headed to the playoffs for the first time
since six they cruised past the Colts no problem. Thirty
eight ten was the final score. Daniel Jones was the
m v P of this game. He threw for a
hundred and seventy seven yards and two touchdowns. He also
had eleven carries, ninety one rushing yards and two touchdowns.
He led all the players in the game in rushing yards.

(02:25:01):
The Browns game alive in the second half and beat
the Commander's twenty four to ten, while the Saints held
on to beat the Eagles twenty to ten. The Lions
dominated the Bears the whole game. Forty one to ten
was the final score. The Jaguars blew the Texans out
of the Water thirty one to three was the final.
On that one, the Falcons edged the Cardinals. Not that
that game mattered, but they did twenty to nineteen. The

(02:25:23):
Chiefs outscored the Broncos seven to twenty four. Russell Wilson, hey,
he came to life. He had two rushing touchdowns in
this game. And the Patriots with the win over the
Dolphins twenty three to twenty one. But we still got
four games to go, so we'll see how my team
goes and Ryan's teams. I don't even know where Ryan is.
He was not happy. Oh there he is. He was
not happy. He's he's still not happy. No, no, his

(02:25:45):
crown is is falling. He looked sad. I'm sorry. Right,
there's still a lot of game, luf, still a lot
of games. Two teams playing for championship. Yes, but Ryan,
Ryan decided in one league to be a good guy
and to agree to just split the winnings no matter
what happens. He's a good guy. What what is split
the winnings? What the hell is wrong with you? It's

(02:26:07):
win I was I was coerced into that by a
single father, and it was on Christmas, and I said,
you know what, fine, that's gonna be one wow, and
you would have won. It looks also that one's not
for very much. That's less than that, less than a
k less clams a lesson have quite a clam bait um.

(02:26:32):
All right, well, montery, thank you very much. Give less
the rest of the way for you out there. Meanwhile,
the Jets right now have kicked a field goals, so
they are trimmed. That Seahawk lead to ten to three.
Let's hear that Seahawk touchdown. Do you know how he's
gonna throw the back corner touchdowns? What a start? Kobe

(02:26:56):
Parkinson from twelve yards out runs a little bit the
end of the back corner and she didn't wave it
up perfectly Seahawks Radio Network. So again ten three Seahawks lead. Meanwhile,
the Vikings blocked a green Bay punt. Uh and they
have a third and goal at the green Bay one
yard line. All right, let's let's pause on the Vikings

(02:27:17):
for a second. Here, twelve and three, eleven and oh
in one score games. Remember we were talking last year
about the Raiders were seven and two in one score
games like seven and two like that never happens. Eleven
and oh, has never happened in the history of the
National Football League. No team in the history of the

(02:27:39):
league has had that kind of record in one score games.
So you could say, well, they find ways to win.
Other there are others that just say, no, they are
not a good team and they just have been insanely lucky.
All right. On the meantime, let's talk about another game
that was played later on today. Now it's time for

(02:28:06):
the NFL box focus. The Cleveland Browns on the road
beat the Commanders four to ten, a big dent in
the Commander's opportunity to make the postseason and joining us
right now. He was at the game, the three time
Super Bowl champion Mark Schlaret. Um, Mark, Let's start with
the Commanders. This was a must win at home against

(02:28:29):
a not very good Browns team. Carson Wentz started, and
I guess I should just stop right there. Carson Wentz started.
We didn't really get to see a ton of this game.
Was it as bad as it looked in the box score? Ah? Yes, yeah,
it was as it looked at the box score. And

(02:28:50):
you know, interestingly enough, I mean, here you have your
opportunity once again, like you did the last end of
last season, you know, winning, you're in last season with
Indianapolis and spent the bit as a football team. Today
it was Carson Wentz that just was horrendous. Three interceptions,
two of them into double coverage. Looks like you just
don't ever throw it into that stuff. And the lack

(02:29:12):
of recognition four throws, four or five balls that were
just got loose and we're you know, just completely inaccurate.
So um that they were bluing Carson Wentz and turing
for Heineke, chanting for Heineke, like in the first quarter
it started, so uh, the the fancier, the commander is
not very happy with the decision of Ron River and

(02:29:33):
the organization. And then you look at the other side,
the quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson comes in for Jacoby Percette
and has not played up to his billing. However, he's
had over a year off from football and the uh
was it plus sexual misconduct allegations against him that he's
still dealing with in some part off the field. How

(02:29:56):
has his progression looked on the football field in your opinion? Yeah,
you know, I think it's actually gotten better. And there
was some you know, extenuating circumstances as far as the
play is concerned. Last week, Uh, in Cleveland it was
I mean, super windy, super cold, So nobody's gonna look
good in those conditions. Um. But today, after a real

(02:30:16):
lackluster first half, he was sharp in the second half.
And I think one of the things you have to
understand four years that he was in one offense and
now he's in a completely different offense in this West
Coast scheme that Kevin Stefanski runs. And so you know,
two years off, as you mentioned, are almost two years
off brand new offense kind of learning, learning the nuance,

(02:30:39):
learning the footwork, learning the timing of that offense. And
you know, we were talking about it in our production meeting.
It's kind of like, you know, driving a car. You
don't even think about driving a car when you get
your car. You just know what to do, unless you're
in Europe, and then you really have to think about
every turn, every exit, everything that you do. And when
you learn a new offense, sometimes the nuance about offense,

(02:31:00):
Sometimes it's timing of that offense. Sometimes the compressions of
that offense are completely back forward from what you've learned
throughout your career. So there is a big learning curve
going on right now. In regards to Shaun Watson, he's
trying to keep up on Mark. You have been around
this league for a long time as a player, as
a broadcaster, and Rich and I were just talking about,

(02:31:21):
you know, these quarterback scenarios. It's every single year, and
we watched last night c J. Stroud look insanely good
against this you know, much heralded Georgia defense. But I
also remember justin Fields putting up huge numbers against Clemson
throwing the ball, and I'm thinking, wow, this guy can
do it. Well, he's doing it with his legs, but

(02:31:43):
he's not doing it with his arm. And so when
you're looking at these top picks and you have a
Bryce Young, you have a c. J. Stroud, you have
Will Levis, these much hype quarterbacks, I mean you've seen
young quarterbacks come and go on the field, off the field.
It's it's it's just it's like Russian roulette. I mean,
you just don't know. Um. So again, when you look

(02:32:05):
at the situation with the commanders right now, what are
they going to do at quarterback? And well, quarterback actually
make that much of a difference. Granted, if you get
like the superstar quarterback, but what direction do they go
next at quarterback? Yeah, that's it's a great question because
I think ultimately Heinek is limited from an armed talent

(02:32:29):
is a pure talent standpoint, and Carson wants Um albeit
a second overall pick you know, several years ago, and
and a guy that was playing towards an m VP
of the league until he deal, he just hasn't been
the same. He's taken a beating and he just he
just looks lost. And so yeah, I mean those are

(02:32:49):
the questions you have to ask yourself. And then you know,
when you when you look at those quarterbacks, when you
look at those young players, um, you know, it's one
thing to have talent and talents great um, but off
the time, I'd like to say talents wasted on talented people.
And there's got to be there's got to be some knowledge,
some ability to process, some ability to process quickly. And

(02:33:09):
I think when you come out of these big colleges,
what you don't realize is what's why. You know, what's
what's wide open in the NFL is covered in college football,
and so guys won't make those throws, Guys will will
get off that throw um and then your ability to
get through progressions quickly, to get through concepts quickly. Uh,

(02:33:30):
it just it's it's just different. There's so much there's
so much more of a one on one you know,
one receiver that you're looking at in college. And then
the other part um of that is just the schemes
are simpler, and the players aren't as good, you know,
I mean, NFL everybody is exceptionally talented, So there's a
there's a huge difference between the two leagues. And and

(02:33:52):
obviously a lot of these young a lot of these
young players, I mean that about them fail um and
it's only a handful of them that actually pan out.
Mark when you look at the Browns and you think
about their upcoming season in three, is this a team
who obviously leverage their near future for Deshaun Watson before

(02:34:13):
paying him the contract they paid him that you think
on paper can compete in the NFC North and potentially
make a run if the Shaun Watson learns how to
drive European cars this offseason. Yeah, yeah, that's what he's
got to learn how to do. And I don't think
there's any question one thing about the West coast offense
is there are a lot more kind of tank plays

(02:34:33):
if you will call in and run its situations, um,
where you let the scheme take care of you know
where you're going with the football. So I think all
that stuff is good. Like I said, in the second half,
he looked much more comfortably, looked a lot better, um.
And you know, I think you look at them line
of scrimmage wise, they can be a dominant group. I
mean they've gone through I mean they have gone through

(02:34:55):
running our excuse me, they've gone through linebackers like it.
They've had so many injuries. But I think they've got
an outstanding secondary. I think they've got an outstanding um,
you know group up front at least off the edge
with Jadeveon Clowney and Miles Garrett and so you know,
they've got the makings great offensive wine. They've got the
makings of a really solid football team. I think they
need a little bit more help with the receiving corps,

(02:35:17):
but yeah, I think they're They're a team that uh
is playing hard and playing through the end of this
season to make sure their quarterback feels comfortable as he
goes into the off season. And I think it's uh,
you know, I think it's what they're thinking. They knew
they were making a long term play here. They knew
that it wouldn't be popular, um, but they knew in
the end, if they could make it all work out,
that they were gonna, you know, be the beneficiaries of

(02:35:39):
having a They could lead their franchise for years to come.
Bad loss for the command, there's no doubt about that.
They no longer control their own scenario in terms of
getting into the postseason. They are going to need help
next week. Mark is always we really appreciate the time.
Thank you so much, my pleasure. You gotta take care.
All right. That's a new year to him. Mark Schlaire

(02:36:01):
joining us right there. All right, we're gonna put a
ball on things. From our standpoint is we got plenty
games still to come. Keep it right here. This is
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. This is Fox Red Zone Radio,
and we've got the place that you may have miss.
Here comes Dicks into the five Luck Tash marks ten fifty.

(02:36:24):
It's all hard. Takes him to the clear, Keeth Sean Nixon,
HiT's off to the Racist. It's Secretary of the pot
down the split say top No One will touch him.
It is a touchdown. It is a one of hundred
and four yard touchdown for key Sean Nixon. My goodness.

(02:36:45):
Now back live to the studios of Fox Sports Radio.
This is Fox Red Zone Radio. That is nineties seven
three of the game. W R and w Packer's radio
network make it officially a hundred and five yards on
the kickoff return for a touchdown Keishaw Nixon for the

(02:37:06):
Packers as they take a seven or three lead over
the Minnesota Vikings. Seahawks up seventeen three over the Jets,
while the Jets are done Raiders ten seven over the
forty niners. Early. Once again, we are live from the
ti iraq dot Com studios. I want to thank the
crew today. Iowa Sam had the party favors today happen. Yeah,

(02:37:35):
I like ys and my novelties. Uh uh see. Of course,
getting a huge day out of Mike Evans today in
the driver's seat for her fantasy football championship. Right now,
Ryan jumping in today. Uh he conceded, it was Mr
nice guy today is gonna lose the other league. It's

(02:37:56):
it's not looking good. Last I looked at his scores.
It was not great, not great. So he could have
been one win, one loss. Instead he gets a half
a win and a loss. That means you lose money.
You lose money. It's not a it's not a good
play out there. Well rich Um wow, uh, this has
been a wild week as far as playoffs scenarios. Remember,

(02:38:17):
if the Packers beat the Vikings, the Commanders are eliminated. Gone.
Now i am still looking at teams that are breathing
and the Raiders are still breathing. I'm still trying these
people who have to figure out all these formulas. So
the playoffs gets very complicated. We mentioned earlier it was

(02:38:37):
an erroneous report that if the Giants won, the Packers
were eliminated. Packers were not eliminated even though the Giants won.
We do know if the Packers win, the Commanders are eliminated.
I'm trying to I would love to see the scenario
of what has to happen for the six and nine
Raiders with two games left to still make the postseason.
I mean you're talking about but they're a media hitting earth.

(02:39:02):
Here's the crazy thing about that little note you passed along.
Commanders could potentially be eliminated with a Packers victory. Ron
Rivera seemed genuinely surprised when one of the reporters at
his press conference asked him if they would be making
a change at quarterback if the Commanders were eliminated from

(02:39:22):
playoff contention today, because he like paused for a long
time and then said, wait, we can be eliminated today
and they and then the reporter followed up with, yeah,
the Packers beat the Vikings. Um, yeah, you, and then
he goes, oh, so even Ron Rivera is a little
bit asleep at the wheel. If you thought Carson Wentz

(02:39:44):
had a tough day, he is getting roasted on Twitter
right now. Forty nine years have retaken the lead over
the Raiders of fourteen to ten. Uh brock Purty is
seven and nine, only thirty eight yards but already to touchdown.
Passes in this game went to George Kittle. Ayuko also
has a touchdown here. I mean, when we talk about

(02:40:07):
the unlikelihood of a guy that was the last pick
in the draft suddenly assuming the job, I always go
back to that Tom Brady special that he had with
Charles Woodson about the touch game the two of them,
and he said at the end, you do understand that
had we lost that game, which was our first playoff
game that year at home to the Raiders. Most likely

(02:40:32):
Drew Bledsoe had been back as the starting quarterback to
start the next season. That came directly from Tom Brady.
He goes I was the backup quarterback. We got into
the postseason, we lose a playoff game at home. Bled
Soo is healthy, he's back, and so guess what, there's
no Drew bledso in San Francisco right now. Nobody's waiting

(02:40:53):
in the wings to take Brox's job. That they really
truly well, that's my point. So Brock Purty makes a
magical in these playoffs, which is very conceivable with the
talent they have in San Francisco. How ironic would it
be if if Tom Brady took his job? Though came
it right here. Much more coming up in Fox Sports
