Over ten thousand recommended its dollars tirac dot com The
way tire buying should be, VJ. The last time we
talked about Kyrie Irving on this airwaves, you said, we
(00:23):
ended it with this. He had just come back from suspension,
and we ended. I asked you, how long until the
next Kyrie Irving? Uh, until the next Kyrie Irving scenario happens,
and then off the air. I don't think I'm telling
tales out of school here when I say this. You
turned to me and said, you know what, the nets
were playing great ball in December. Nobody wants to talk
about it. Nobody wants to say anything. And I think
(00:46):
part of the reason why is because while you were right,
everybody was waiting for the other shoe to drop. What
shoe was that? Nobody knew what it was going to be.
But VJ, yesterday afternoon, the shoe it dropped. Yeah, and
drop what's ofp everybody out there, Fox Radio, Land, Man,
what's going on? What's back? How living? Man? I'm doing
well better than Kevin Duran Yeah, no, no, Kevin. Kevin
Durant is fine. By the way, we're just talking Barbara
(01:07):
and too Man. Nice cut, you got their player, nice line,
nice little timp, little timpa fade. You gotta you just
got a date. You're going out to night now. I
know you're going to super Bowl next week looking fresh.
I gotta be ready. Yeah fresh. I'm feeling you. Man,
I'm happy for you know. I was. I wish I
was going. But it's all good. Listen man with Kyrie. Man, Look,
I'm I'm not gonna get off my Kyrie soapbox. I'm
(01:28):
just not. I'm not getting off my Kyrie soapbox. This
is so overblown. This entire Kyrie thing is so overblown.
And this is what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna say
the same thing I said. I believe it was June
twenty three, if I'm not mistaken. I was in here
doing the show down a couple with Chris Bruce Hard
and that's the day I believe he Kevin Durant asked
(01:49):
for a trade and with all the where could he
go and what team is he gonna go to? And
I said, dude, this this business is usual, this is negotiation.
I re still wants his deal. In my opinion, the
only team he's gonna get close to the deal he
wants is going to be the Brooklyn Nets. It's not
(02:10):
gonna be the Lakers. It's not gonna be the mass
it's not gonna be the Suns, it's not gonna be
the heat Nobody. Maybe pat Riley can sit down and
chat with him and maybe get him to feel like
Kyrie will buy in and be reliable if he gives
him a long term deal. Maybe, but that's the only
team that's gonna do it. Kyrie waiting right into the
(02:33):
week before the trade deadline, and as you mentioned, he's
been bawling. Even with Durant out, he's been quiet. He's
been bawling. A lot of people thought he was never
gonna play in the NBA game with the whole uh tweeting,
retweeting of the documentary and all that stuff. We don't
have to rehash all of that. We already know what
that was. But came back, dude, he's supposed to do
allegedly or supposedly quietly in the back dropping. You know,
(02:54):
here he is bawling, and then here he comes this
week with I want to be traded, you know, by
the deadline, or I'm leaving in free agency. Martin. I
don't think he wants to leave. I think this is
now his turn. I think him and Durant got together.
He was like, hey, hey, dog, listen, I asked for
a trade, to try to get you your deal, to
put the deal on the table. What you want, all right,
(03:15):
Let's just go play. Let's go enjoy this season, and
when you when you need to make your move, then
you'll make your move. And then during goes. Oh. I
was surprised to get out of here. I'm not buying
none of that, man. This is all business, Martin. Business
is usually he's trying to get this deal. Bro, we
don't want to leave. Yeah, but the deal is not coming.
That's that's why I don't think. I don't think so, man.
I think the deal's caught, maybe not to fifty two
(03:39):
to ten two toys something. I don't think that deal
is coming. But I still think someone will be willing
to pay him one one nineties somewhere in that range
you almost have to you just do. And for every
front office that always says they're not gonna do it,
and every analysts on television on talk show saying they're
not gonna do it, every for every time I hear
something that's not gonna happen, it happens, man. And I
(04:01):
just think this is just part of business as usual, Martin.
I think if he doesn't get traded, there's I mean, well,
Chris Hayines just reporting that there would be uh, there's
a chance that even if he was offered the long
term deal from Brooklyn, he would balk at that after
what's going on in the in the first half of
this season. But I would just say, man, I don't
He's thirty years old. Kawhi Leonards played more basketball than
(04:23):
he has in the last three years, and are Anthony
Davis for that matter, has played more basketball than the
KOA ass for the last three years. And those two
guys who are generally due to injury that we're thinking
about why Kauai is not there, and I mean or
why Anthony Davis isn't there. It's not because of any
of the numerous myriad of reasons why Kyrie Irving has
missed games over the last three four seasons, especially i'd
(04:43):
say starting specifically through now, he has missed all types
of games. Prior to that in Cleveland was more along
the injury lines, but now it's like, who knows a
lot of different as different in terms of why Kyrie
may not may have not been available. But that's part
(05:06):
of the issue. Why I see here the value is
at Brooklyn right, because no, I don't see a team.
Maybe I know that the Mavericks are being discussed, the
Lakers are being discussed discussed in terms of potential landing
spots for where Kyrie could get traded too. But if
I'm the Brooklyn Nets, look, I already made my bed
three or four years ago when I decided that I
(05:26):
was going to essentially just mortgage my entire franchise to
Katie and Kyrie. Look, you're gonna be a free agent
at the end of this year. If I'm not getting
something that's moving heaven on Earth, I'm gonna go ahead
and try to win the ust with what I got
right here. That's if I'm the Brooklyn Nets. So like
the whole concept of you demanding a trade and all this,
I just don't see the end result unless you actually
want to get traded. So like the whole kind of
(05:48):
next level of Kyrie is doing second level thinking. I
don't see the benefit of doing so. I do because
at the end of the day, why is it when
ranchises go with the business decision, we applaud it and
we get it and we understand it. The minute a
player goes with his business decision, most people have a
(06:12):
problem with it. It's almost like this colonization field or not. No,
you're here to just play. That's it. You don't get
to do the business. You're here to entertain us and play.
And see. I have a beef with that. I always
have and I always will and I always speak on it.
So I think there is a benefit to it. I
believe in my heart and soul there is one GM
and owner that will cut this man a check because
at the end of the day, there's there's always the
(06:34):
fifty fifty. If there's the fifty fifty if with even
Anthony Davis and the Lakers gave him a MAX extension
last year and he's already missed whenties something games this year,
and everybody knows he's gonna miss time but if you
can have a guy healthy who is the best ball
handle earner league, the best finisher in the league, left
or right, lay up, wats can go get his own shot,
(06:56):
which the Lakers are. The Maps don't have a lot of,
especially the Maps. There's just gotta be a piece of
you that just always says what if? In something else
I learned in sports a long time ago, Martin, there's
always one owner of gym that thinks they can fix
a guy. There's always one. Like they said with the Drift,
all you need is want GM to like you. All
you need is want GM to fall in love with you.
(07:16):
That's it. You don't need thirty two teams in the NFL,
you just need one. You'll need thirty two in the NBA.
You just need one. I honestly do feel he's so talented, Martin,
that somebody and Lebron has a lot of Paul here
in l a And if he can get him here
and want his way to even get him a deal.
You don't think Genie's gonna pull out the check and
cut the check. She will, somebody will. I don't know
(07:39):
if it's Genie. I don't know if it's Mark. I
don't know if it's pat Riley in the ownership down
there in Miami, somebody will man. So I do think
there is a benefit to this, because at the end
of the day, you gotta handle business for yourself. Kyrie's
handling business for himself. And I like the fact that
you don't care what people thinking, what people are gonna say.
He's gonna go about his business. But I I I
think this is a ploy to try to go she
(08:00):
ate to get a deal from Brooklyn. He does not
want to leave Kevin Durant. And you know, if the
if the Laker deal goes through, you know Russ' is
in that deal, You're gonna look at me. Somebody gonna
look at me with a straight face to tell me
Duran's gonna go to the front and say, yeah, you
could trade and bring Russ here for the rest of
the year. We already know how that went. That's part
of the reason why I don't see the trade demand,
Like I don't see he's sitting out today after the
(08:21):
trade demand. Right. You know what's interesting, cod Well, I
find interesting is Kyrie irving all the reporting is he
has asked for a trade this summer. Kevin Durant demanded
a trade. I just find that to be I don't
think words mean things, and so I find that to
be interesting. But like, to me, it seems that if
(08:41):
Kyrie has demanded more than k D asked, more than
k D demanded, because k D the whole time was
just like, look, you know, I want to be traded,
and then came back, Hey, you know, I'm not surprised.
I'm not traded. You know what I'm saying. It was
more of like a thing Kyrie is not playing right now.
Think about it, if you if you think about okay,
if you're Kyrie and you're trying to serve your best
interests right during like you said, the business another business
is a businessman, right Okay, I demand to trade. I
(09:06):
mean I wish I would like to go out and
hit for fifty with tenniss and and three steals and
and and and the ten point win for my team,
right like, wouldn't I try to like instead of not
instead of being unavailable today? That's what I'm saying. It
doesn't like his actions if if the goal is to
get the big bag from Brooklyn, and these steps don't
team to add up to mean two plus two is
(09:28):
going to five for me when based off his actions
who they play today. I like it because, just to
make my point, if he's sitting out today, you already know,
you already know they have no durant, right, so he
sits out today, they got there down eighteen points to
the Wizard. Okay, okay, so so so to the to
the to the to the Lakers. He was actually playing
(09:49):
really well for him too. I like that kid. He
when he's coming out of college, coming out because I
thought he was gre a really good player, could be
a really good role good NBA player for about ten years,
and it looks like his career is going to pan
out into that. But that that's that's that's the point.
I'm gonna sit out today. Okay, where I got Duran out,
Let's see how you guys look without me. And I
know some people, I know people are gonna bocket that.
I get it. I get it. But when you're doing
(10:11):
business in pro sports like this, especially as a player,
sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Man.
You gotta do what you gotta do to get to
what you what you're trying to get to and to
get what you want. So they're like you said, down
to the Wizards. The Wizards. They're down to the Wizards
almost a dub. No Kyrie the fly, Kyrie is in
the game. They wouldn't be down almost a dub. They
may be down bucket or two, not a dub, because
(10:32):
Kyrie is gonna do what he does that run. He
went on thirty nine, thirty eight, eleven and says, four teams,
I mean they do that run. He had a nine
game run where it was just like, yeah, I know,
there's no one's talking about this. And I tweeted that,
I said, hey, I know there's no one's talking about
this nine ten game run. Kyrie is on where he
is just torching anybody you put in front of him
from every team that they played in the last ten games.
(10:54):
And ten games is what three weeks to a month,
about ten games about three weeks, right, so about four
about three weeks. No matter what guard you put in him,
but no matter what defense you deployed against him, he
was cooking it. That The problem has never been Kyrie's
ability on the court, it's whether or not he's going
to be there. That means he's like Kyrie Bueller, Kyrie,
(11:17):
I love that movie one of my favorite movies. First,
the first movie I ever saw that was really Martin
Luther King. There was a busy day, right obviously you
know what I'm saying. We had We had football game
that day, and obviously the NBA does a big Martin
Luther King Day to do so you may have missed this,
but Kyrie everyone was asked on why Kevin Durant's absence
(11:37):
had a different impact this season compared to last year.
He responded, quote, well, I'm consistently in the lineup. That helps.
We also don't have anybody halfway in the locker room.
That was Martin Luther King Day. We haven't hit Valentine's
Day yet, and Kyrie Evering has demanded the trade. I
just think us about the contract man. There are five
(11:58):
games out of first place in the Atlantic right now,
behind Boston and behind Philadelphia. They can still end up
with the fourth or the third seed, or when the
Rant gets back, they can even maybe climb to the
two seed in the East. You don't listen and you
can't move them if you're if you're the Nets, I'll
go at it from the front office side. If you're
the Nets, what I honestly would do. If you're not
gonna pay him, you could just say, I'm not trading you.
(12:20):
You're gonna go sit, and you're gonna go sit and
lose money. You've already lost your Nike deal, You've already
lost other endorsement deals. You've already lost you know, tens
of millions, probably close to a hundred million dollars that
was coming to you in endorsement. You're gonna you're gonna
risk the remainding part of your contract this year, and
then to your point, who's gonna want you next year?
(12:40):
When because we didn't trade you, you just did like
then I will come on air and stamping and go, okay,
y'all win. I was wrong. Kyrie pulled that BS and
I can't ride with him no more. If he did that,
I'd come on air and admit that. But the thing is,
anybody who wants him, now, you know, provided you man,
anybody wants them. All right, Let's say you got let's
you're the Lakers, say the Mavericks, Well, you can just
(13:03):
I don't know, wait three months and get them for free.
And not for free, I should say, but you can't
you get them for the contract that you spend for.
But you don't have to pay Brooklyn anything. You don't
have to trade anything to Brooklyn to make sure that
he did, to make sure that you know that they
are you know, you're not competing with anybody. It's free agency.
I got you. The best you can do is offer
the contract like Brooklyn. If I'm the Nets now, bro
I still got k D under contract for the next
(13:25):
three some years. I'm going to need to get things
back to be able to try to win right now
with the Brooklyn Nets. And that's why. There's why, that's
why this math ain't math. And for me, that's why
they should just get him to deal. They should, They
should many they gotta. They gotta give him to del
Mar and they can't trade them, you can. There's no
get back. Russ is gonna leave. So even if Russ
(13:46):
is in that deal, they've already said there's certain Laker
players that's already reports already come out that they're not
including in the trade, Like I mean, what are you
gonna what are you gonna do with pick twenty nine?
And what is seven? What are you doing with that?
They don't want to come on that is, So that's
why I just say, when I look at the landscape
of the league as it is right now, I don't
understand why Kyrie would rock this boat, especially after the
(14:07):
last three weeks that he's had this season. But you
know what, three weeks straight solid smooth sailing about time
for Kyrie to rocket boat. That's about it. That's about
once a quarter, you know what I'm saying, Like two
one Q two two three once once once a business quarter,
Kyrie throws a wrench in the business. I will say this, man,
I will say this in non defense of Kyrie. I
(14:29):
always yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna bang. I'm
gonna banging them four minutes, though, make I try to
keep it a buck with my sports. I'm ana banging
them fo a minute. I don't like narcissist pro athletes.
I don't like narcissist human beings. That's just that's just me.
If you're narcissist and I can figure it out, stay
away from me. We're gonna have problems. We're not gonna
be cool. I'm telling you right now this, if you're
right that he just feels like, okay, I haven't made
(14:52):
noise and a while I just had a great run
and no one's talking about me. Okay, fine this now,
this looks like a pouting move like my three year
old son Cameron does that. I will that now will
lose me trying to support you and trying and trying
to defend Kyrie. Irvan if if if, if, You're right on,
(15:12):
it's about time. Let me make some noise. Ah, I
got beef with that man. Coming up next, we'll have

never a dull day. You guys are the perfect guys
(17:07):
to break it all down. I appreciate you coming on, Mark, definitely,
And obviously the news of the day Kyrie Irving has
done something else. Demand did the trader asked for a trade,
and I'm not sure what exactly verb is being reported
right now, but ultimately it seems as if he does
not want to be a Brooklyn Net anymore. Yeah, it
seems like nothing has changed since last summer. First he
(17:27):
says he wants to be traded, then he realized there's
not much of a market. The Nets aren't just going
to trade him for pennies. And then he comes back
to work acting like nothing happened, and then goes through
half of the season and rinse and repeats. So I'll
be interesting to see if this chapter unfolds differently, but
it could be wind up being the same thing. A
lot of noise, and then he's in the next uniform
(17:49):
once again. Hey, Mark, VJ Ron Husky here, thanks for
joining us here on Martin and VJ on Fox Sports Radio.
Appreciate it, man, I love your work that you do here.
I I'm Mark, I'm on the side, and I just
think this is pandering. I think this is ucturing. I
think This is negotiation, and we've seen it so many
times in NBA history. I don't understand why we keep
getting fooled by it. And in my reaching here, am
I onto something? Or there's do really want out of there? Are?
(18:12):
Is he trying to get his deal done? Yeah? Well,
I think it is a little bit is posture negotiating
because he didn't get the extension that he was hoping for.
It's not like the Nets didn't offer him an extension.
The problem is it wasn't as high as he wanted
and also had some incentives that had to be to
reach out. While hey, uh, your contract will depend on
how successful the Nets are this season in terms of
(18:34):
possibly winning an NBA championship. But um, I think Kyrie
is trying to use whatever leverage she has left, knowing
that even if the Nets clearly have had second thoughts
on wanting to keep Kyrie long term, it's the idea
that hey, you may as well get something for my
departure instead of nothing. And look, the Nets are under
(18:55):
no obligation to listen to Kyrie irving. But I think
the thing that is that day injury is not just
walking away with potentially no assets after he leaves this summer,
but you know, who knows what he will do if
he doesn't get his wish after the trade deadline. We
have seen time and time again that is availability history
is very much in question, whether it's injuries, whether it's
(19:18):
you know, suspensions because of his behavior or just unexcused absences.
So I want to pull it past Kyrie that if
he stays with the nets, that all of a sudden
he's saying that he has a lot of these injuries
or he's not available because he needs to take a break.
So maybe because of that, the nets are inclined. You
know what, we don't want to deal with this nonsense.
(19:39):
Let's just get something in return. But the question is
what's the market out there and will they even get
enough assets? Because the other thing is that if you
pull a trade with Kyrie Irvene, you almost have to
be prepared to maybe pull a tray with Kevin Durant,
knowing that they're a tandem, and if they don't get
enough now and in return, all of a sudden, you
have Kevin Durant wayne out again. So we have seen
(20:01):
Katie kind of distancing himself from Kyrie, especially over the
the you know, the tweet and all of that. No
need to rehash all of that, but I do wonder
are they still as as as a as tag team
as it seems as if, because you know, they started
out this thing it was Katie and Kyrie or Bust.
It may have. Are we are we have? How far
away is Bust at this point? Basically is my question? Yeah,
(20:24):
I mean, I think it's a very interesting question that
Kevin Durant has to ask him. Who knows if he's
forthcoming about it. But what I think is interesting is
prior to this latest inciant evolving Kyrie, when we rewind
back to him serving a suspension because of him promoting
an anti Semitic film and initially refusing to apologize, you know,
Kevin Durant kind of took this distance of, look, I'm
(20:46):
not going to get another man's business. Same thing when
Kyrie Irving was initially trying to demand a trade before
free agency started last season, and and Kevin's been adamant
when he went to the front office last summer about
wanting now, he said, I had nothing to Kyrie Irvan
had everything to do with just the atmosphere, the lack
of success, the head coaching staff and how they're keeping
(21:09):
players accountable. And so if you are to believe Kevin Durant,
he feels like all the issues are elsewhere to blame.
Who knows if to what degree he really feels that way.
You can't discount the fact that they are friends. But
knowing Kevin Durant, he is all about basketball and wanting
to have teammates or about the craft. And while no
(21:29):
one's disputing Kyrie Irving's talent when he is on the floor,
I can't help but wonder why Kevin Durant hasn't stoured
on him because he hasn't been consistently available. Maybe now
is the pivot point, But I thought the pivot point
for Katie would have been last summer when he wanted
out and when news got out but Katie wanted to
(21:50):
be traded. I wondered if Kyrie was a variable, and
Katie has been very adamant that that wasn't the case.
So we'll wait and see. Mark. Well, that's your crystal
ball if you have one for me, buddy, and we're
gonna go to Thursday. I don't know the time, it's
like four pm Eastern time or something like that. Whatever,
the trade deadline is four pm hits. Trade deadline hits
on Thursday. To you everything you know, everything you see,
(22:12):
everything you hear, just that you're gutting your heart. Is
Kyrie Irvin still wearing a Brooklyn Nets uniform? Yeah? If
I had a guess, and I don't feel easy about
putting some money down if I had to, I think
that the Nets are gonna be pulling the trigger on Kyrie. Um.
I think the most likely odds is that the Lakers
get him, but there will have to be a third
(22:34):
team in return, because I don't think that the Nets
would want Russell Westbrook. Katie left Oklahoma City partly because
their fit wasn't great. Um, So I I would suspect
that the Utah Jazz get involved. Maybe they can collect
uh some role players from each team as well as
offer role players, maybe get some draft picks as well,
(22:54):
or maybe the Bulls were you know, maybe the Lakers
wind up getting Zack Lazeen uh and vice versa. But
I do think that the Nets pulled the trigger. But
the challenging part is the Lakers really seem to be
the only team that's contending heavily for Kyrie, and even
they themselves, fairness to them have their own misgivings because again,
(23:17):
they know that Kyrie is an amazing talent, they know
the roster flaws as of up to this point, um,
and they feel optimistic that because of Lebron's history with
Kyrie they can co exist. But they also know his
availability history has unpredictability, so there's only so much they're
willing to go as far as their assets and everything
(23:38):
else to pull the trade. So with that, I think
it has to involve another team, but I do think
it winds up happen. I'm Martin with Enna Fox Worts
Radio Insider. Right. You just mentioned the Los Angeles Lakers,
who are currently just finished, just finished halftime, came out
eleven minutes left in the third quarters, Daser. We'll have
everything on that game in just a moment. But I
want to say Lebron's got twelve right now, we're all
(24:01):
on Lebron Watch. You just interviewed a bunch of his
former coaches and guys kind of in his universe's satellite
throughout his career about his scoring ability for NBA dot Com. Yeah,
and I thought it was really interesting because the common
theme from Eric Spoelster, Mike Brown, and Tyler they all
coached Lebron James at different parts of his career. But
I think that there are two themes. One, how Lebron
(24:23):
evolved as a score. Um. You know, Mike Brown was
telling me when he was with the Caps, he was
the first a minute that his you know, weakness was
three point shooting, but he put the time in the
effort to perfect that craft. When he got to the
Miami Heat, you know, Eric Spoelser was noticing how he
really basically just mimicked other players on the team in
terms of their routine. First it was, you know, looking
(24:46):
at Ray Allen and with incorporating his three point shooting routine,
doing a lot of post work in Emil and what
Chris Bosh did, same thing with Dwayne Wade. But the
other common denominators, they really strongly pushed back on this
whole idea that Lebron be too passive and sometimes passed
up open shots, or was reluctant as a score or
shrank in big moments. They really felt that Lebron was
(25:09):
just playing basketball the right way. I mean, Mike Brown
was saying, hey, that that whole argument is BS Eric
Spolster called it silly and stupid. They thought that Lebron
James deserved a lot more praise for not having that
kind of a mentality of always wanting to be the
guy that takes the shot as opposed to someone who
really studies the game and wants to empower his teammates.
(25:30):
Uh So, I think it was a really interesting window
in how Lebron's vault but how he stayed the same
because of how he plays the right way as well
as his disciplined training that allowed him to be able
to play twenty years at a high level. Well do
you know, obviously NBA world is watching Lebron James now
as he counts down and and and gets closer to
Kareem scoring. And of course, I mean this could be
(25:53):
a big week for Los Angeles if somehow they are
able to wrangle Kyrie away from the Brooklyn Nets and
Lebron pass is a square record. But Mark, thanks for
joining us here, La Martin and VJ your insight as
always greatly appreciate it. I appreciate you guys keep killing
it too. And like I just said, Steve to Seger
is gonna have everything else on this Lakers game Lakers
(26:14):
least seven five is seventy and he'll let you know
everything else trending in the world of sports, Steve, what's
happening to my friend? Hello, good afternoon, and thanks for
the pizza. Yes, Lakers are out by anytime, very tasty.
Anthony David's with twenty points. But how about the Brooklyn
Nets you mentioned? Kyrie Irving just asked to be traded
and now is out with a quote sore calf today
(26:35):
NBA trade deadline. Thirst. He was not on the injury
report this morning or last night. Just for the record,
of course, they don't have Kevin Durant for this game,
and they don't have Simmons either, and Bradley Beale for
Washington against Brooklyn. Beale is out with a sore foot tonight,
and Kyle Kuzma left with a sprained ankle. And Kuzma
was over six from the floor when he was in there.
And still the Wizards were up twenty late first half
(26:57):
and now still lead by twenty at Brooklyn or lead
third quarter. It's eighty four sixty four for a Washington
team that had won six in a row till last night,
blew an early twenty point lead against Portland and lost
Clippers lead end to the first quarter thirty six, twenty
eight at New York Paul George with eleven points. The
NHL All Star Game was won by the Atlantic Division
in Florida, and Florida's own Matthew Chuck was named Game
(27:21):
m v P. The Dallas Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer offensive coordinator.
The Broncos are allowing their defensive coordinator is Euro overro
out of his contract so he can interview elsewhere, including
apparently for the Vikings. The Cardinals will give second interviews
for head coach to Mike Kafka, Giants offensive coordinator, and
to Lou and Rumo, the Bengals defensive coordinator. The Colts
(27:43):
gave a second interview to Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Styke,
and of course Super Bowl is coming up a week
from Sunday. Eagles tackle Lane Johnson says he'll play in
the Big Game next weekend despite missing practice all this
week with a groin injury. He'll have surgery later. Now
to college bad skitball, and there were more upsets. No
dominant team this season. Number one per Due lost seventy
(28:06):
four at number twenty one Indiana Back to you. Thanks
Steve Martin and VJ. Coming to you live from the
tirac dot Com studios. And Steve just said, if there's
no dominant team in college basketball now this year and
the NBA at least on the Western Conference, So I
kind of seemed like the same way there's it is
wide open. If you have two weeks ago the New
(28:27):
Orleans Pelicans or a top the standings now look at them. Yeah,
I don't. I don't. I don't think that though. I
just think that the numbers are Know, if you look
at the standards, you go, oh man, it's wide open.
I don't think it's wide open. I think there's two
teams that can really win the West when it comes
when it comes down to it, when it comes out
to the money you put the chips on the table.
I think there's only two, maybe three teams that have
a legitimate shot to come out of the West. I
(28:48):
know it looks crowded, but I don't buy that. I do.
In college basketball though, those teams will be uh Denver,
I hate to admit it, but Memphis because Jah John
can go get forty on any given night in you
I mean, he's an They're a good basketball team. Even
though if they're not one of my favorite, they're good
basketball team. And I still believe in Golden State. If
everyone's healthy and everyone's on the floor, and you know,
they just cruised through the season and get just get
(29:10):
the five or six seaters, they know when they get
to the playoffs, they've done it before. They know what's up. Man,
those are three teams that they have a legitimate shot
up coming out of the West. Nobody else is coming
out of the West. It'll be one of those three. Well,
here's the deal. Right now, we're sitting looking at the
Brooklyn Nets, sitting forth in the east and uh, as
Mark mdnich is outlined, and as we've been talking about
from the from the top of the hour, and as
(29:31):
everybody in the NBA world has been talking about since yesterday,
this the standings in this situation could change greatly as
Kyrie Irby has asked for a trade and Kevin Durrant
might be the domino that follows. It's what's Saturday now,
So we have about four or five days until Thursday,
and a Thursday at four o'clock Eastern, when that deadline hits,
I think I mean I wonder, I wonder what is
(29:54):
going to come of this, because with the whole Kyrie situation,
what if the nets we're just like, al right, full send,
We'll try aide Kevin Durant, Kyrie, you can sit where
like the Trey Kyrie for pennies on the dollar, if
you can even get kept pennies on the dollars. If
you don't get the good deal you know what on
your contract, play out the rest of it or don't
because you know who knows what you'll do. And then
at the end of the at the end of this season,
(30:15):
just literally start over. Just so just scorched that. So
burn it, burn it down, seth Rowtling style, just burn it,
burn into the ground. I mean, I just think this
when you have a talent, when you have a situation
where you have a disgruntled superstar, right, and that's that's
what Kyrie Irving is and Kevin Durant is kind of
he doesn't seem grunt through or disgrunt through these seems
(30:35):
like you don't know what, we don't know what can
that's my guy, But we don't know what Kevin is.
And I think the whole he just loves to he
just loves to whoop and go play basketball, Like, oh,
that's well and fun. But ultimately it's still a working
environment that he has. It's not he's just not walking
in to lifetime fitness and get enough jumpers, all right,
And even if he was, the people at the gym
will probably be like, hey, you gotta move over for
(30:55):
the volleyball. Like, there are things that get in a way.
There are things that get in the way of him
just wanting to hoop, right, So those are things just
on his face that people want to eliminate, right, because
that's if that's all these kids. Because it sounds good,
he said, Because it sounds good, I just want to play.
So but the thing is, I just like Jock Vaughn,
right for all accounts. After Steve Nash was fired and
(31:18):
moved on, he was like, wait a minute, maybe the
Jock Vaughn thing is working right there. They want on
a bunch of games. Asked if he felt Kyrie was
letting down Brooklyn, he says, I feel you have a
responsibility as a basketball player the same way I do
as a coach. I show up, I do my job
every single day. That's what I signed up for and
that's my expectations for one through seventeen. I'll tell you this.
I'm know Kevin Durant, but if you decided that you
(31:40):
were gonna show up half the time to this radio show,
I would have to talk to somebody about it. You
know what I'm saying, because first I'm gonna coming to
you first, Like, Yo, what's good? What's good? Man? You
know what? I'm talking over your head? What's up? Ultimately,
at the end of the day, like, if that conversation
with you doesn't draw any any changes, well, all right,
well I gotta go up. Somebody gotta do something, because
(32:01):
ultimately I can't depend on you to be here at
seven o'clock, you know what I mean. So I think
that has a lot to play with this, Like and
I get maybe you don't championship driven. All that is
well and fine, but like, still, at the end of
the day, you can't play four on five. You don't
(32:21):
let me ask you this man and this and this
could be me being a cynic. Duran's got to Kyrie's
got one. I don't. I don't. I don't ever feel
every player and even Superstars one, four and five, and
I don't feel like every guy's cut that way. I
feel like there's some guys that get one or get two, bro,
and there at the end of the day, they're just
(32:42):
they can just always say listen, I'm a Hall of Famer,
I got my two championship. I don't need I'm not
chasing Jordan, I'm not chasing Colby. I'm not chasing Lebron.
To your point, I think to your point, it's like,
all right, do we have a shot at it. If
we have a shot at it, I'm going on right.
And if we on the flip side of it, if
we don't have a shot at it, I'm not like whatever,
(33:02):
Like like I'm good. But do you feel like those
two guys could be that because you're saying championship driven.
If the rant was championship driven, you don't leave Golden State.
I understand. Look, that's what there's a whole There's so
much with these two guys. There's so much drama and
so much like the way that NBA divadum of superstarness is.
But I would say, if I'm Kevin Durant, ultimately I'm
(33:25):
just gonna go off his words. He just wants to hoop.
There's so much going on around the hoop that it
has to matter, that has to matter, just because you
can't just who because they're gonna ask you about this,
They're gonna ask you about that. Like if you just
want to hoop, you would imagine at this point in
the game, Well, I mean it's like a trade getting
rid of move on from Kyrie because you know what
(33:47):
that like all the news comes from him, if you
think every every time it's a it's a Brooklyn Nets
like to do. It starts with Kyrie, but the rant
asks for a trade and June though, so he's done
this also so we can't let a hook But that's
one to one to how many for Kyrie? I like
wonder four okay, since he's been in Brooklyn. That make
(34:09):
you go, that makes people not like the guy. I
get that. I'm just saying, like, if you know, you
judge off the past behavior just like all right, all right,
I understand. But coming up next, we'll get into Uncle VJ.
That's America's favorite segment out of the next Fox Sports
Radio Martin and Va coming to your live from the
tire Act dot Com Studios. I was just telling you
this VJ. Lebron is like a time capsule. Like when
(34:31):
you look at Lebron in two thousand and three, he's
had a big, big white tea and a flip home.
When you look at Lebron now, he's got shorts on
and T shirts that he wouldn't be caught that wearing.
None of his none of his sweatpants he wears now
when he goes to his son's game and you've been
you've seen his son play live. I he did something
play live and Lebron has been there, all his sweats
that come down to like right above his ankles, and
(34:53):
it's life in two thousand and seven. You would never
be caught, you know now joggers that just barely reach
your ankle or think they yet. I bought a fresh
pair yesterday. The gym, I'm dropping pounds. I'm like, hold off.
I kind of like the jogger. I do appreciate, uh,
you know, when we talk about the other the other
guy in consideration generally for best basketball player of all time,
(35:14):
he just got stuck in the nineties and never never
moved on. Michael Jordan with the big still he's still addressing,
He's still dress he still dresses in the in the
last dance catalog. My dad. My dad's still addresses like
you know what I mean, He's still dresses in the
last Dance cat can't go ahead listen to Kenny Lattimore.
I I get it. But Lebron fashionable guy, keeps up
(35:36):
with the times. But I'm sorry for taking away some
of your time because now it's time for Uncle v
J's Corner. All right, everybody, gather around. It's that time
of the way. Oh man, it's that time of the day.
I'm been telling y'all. Man, Yes, it's time for everyone's
favorite huncle. And you add the cherry on the top.
(35:56):
It's time for Uncle v J's Corner. I got a
great Uncle VJs corner for you guys. What's going on? Everybody,
Come on over here on the corner where I'll be
sitting on the bench of Uncle Vj's Corner. Have a seat.
Because it's a Black History month and I want to
give love to all the pioneers that have come through
(36:17):
sports and open up the doors for so many people
over the years. And I got a good one for
you guys to day for the Vanilla Brother and Sister
of the Week award. I want to tell you guys
about the story of a gentleman who was born in
Mount Pleasant, Ohio, just nineteen years after the Civil War.
April ninth, eighteen sixty five. I know we all know
(36:38):
about Jackie Robinson. Martin is very, very very a student
at that. He doesn't work over there with MLB bro
dot Com over there with Rob Parker, they create with
this baseball stuff. But I found this guy and I
like it, and I want to give him some props
because although Jackie Robinson broke that color barrier, this gentleman
broke the real baseball pro baseball colored barrier back on
May first, in eighteen eighty four the Toledo Blue Stockings.
(37:02):
He was the first African American to play pro baseball
in the American Association League that used to battle with
the National League. He was also the first black college
baseball player for Overlin College in Ohio, and Martin's album
Mater University of Michigan sixty seven years old. When he
died in nineteen four, the man only made two thousand
(37:23):
dollars over six months, which was good money back then
because he was able to buy a hotel, a movie theater,
and he also published a weekly newspaper. You want to
talk about tough. This man was a catcher who used
to catch without a chess protector a lot of times,
playing bare handed, hit for two sixty three and forty
two games, which was actually twenty three points higher than
(37:45):
the league average. This man was playing in a time
where there was still slavery, There was still the Civil
Rights haven't even started yet. Black Americans had no rights.
We were being treated really really bad. Imagine what the
pro athlete. You guys know the stories that to go through.
Tony Lemaine, who was a pitch He once admitted later
in the interview that he used to ignore his signs
and through whatever pitch he wanted, which would cause him
(38:07):
to get broken. Fingers are broken, risk, broken hand and
the ball just hitting him all over the place without
a chess protector. On man, I want to give props
and this week's Vanilla Brother of the Week award to
Mr Moses Fleetwood. I love that nickname Walker. Remember the
name Moses Fleetwood Walker, the first African American to play
(38:33):
pro baseball And on a another award, really quit ms.
Debbie Thomas was the first black winner Olympic medal winner
and figure skating. She was the first black American to
win any type of metal in any type of Olympus MS.
Debbie Thomas, Mr. Moses fleetwood Walker, Happy Black History Month.
(38:55):
You guys are the vanilla brother and sister of the
week week week week week? Did you know that Moses
fleetwood Walker also designed artillery show that use gunpowders that
are compressed there, No, I didn't see the thank you
there you go. That's tag team right there. See that's
see see what you'll do? That's right there. That's Colby
a shot type stuff. What Martin did not pull off
(39:16):
in here? Did y'all just see how that happened? That's
good one. That's a good one man. How you feel
though he played in Michigan. That's you bro? He played
in Michigan. Man saw that. I was like, Mark's gonna
love this. I'll tell you what. The history of sport
in this country is fascinating, especially when you consider that
for about a hundred or so years, baseball was not
only the most popular sport in this country, but you
(39:37):
had two professional leagues of baseball for as the most
popular sport and it's completely separated by race. That's that's
the only that's the only thing delegation. But I would
just challenge you as the XFL kicks off, as the
a F, a F, a F whatever was called the
USFL kicks off, and the a F from years past,
and then you know all of these different in leagues.
(40:01):
Only baseball this country could sustain too major league major
league organizations. That's what's impressive right there. Coming up next,
we'll talk about the Broncos landing Sean Payton and what
impact that has on the rest of the n f C.
West Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio. This guy VJ alright,
Martin Wise. VJ Husky broadcasts a live and the tirac
dot Com studio tirack dot com. Well, he'll get there fast.
(40:24):
Friend shipping, free road ads in protection and over ten
thousand of recommended the Stallers tiraq dot com. The way tied,
Brian should be VJ buddy. When the little red light says,
I know, I know, I know, yeah, But I said
something cool and said something fun and then he played
the sound bite and made it sound funny and we
laughed at so we're fine. Didn't that incurs I didn't
(40:47):
say anything bad. The more things changed, the more they
stayed the same. Because February first came and went in
Tom Brady retired again. He did it last year February
one and this year February one. So I guess the
clock is drown on thirty six days about until he unretired, right,
Is that how that goes? Nah, he's done. It's about
thirty six days. Uh. This time last year he was
(41:08):
unretiring coming back to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This year, you know, after an Instagram message in which
did you see that they're auctioning off the sand that
somebody went to eBay and and got the sand. They're
all same off the sand that at the time Brady
was standing in as he made his retirement video. Was
he standing was he sitting? Though? That's the problem I
have with the saying because if the sand was on
his feet, cool, because everybody saying was on his feet?
(41:30):
What was on his ass? I'm not buying I'm not
buying butt sand. I mean I think, look, if you're
buying foot sand, I think you're probably you know, buying sand.
Is that once you I think that that's a weird
place to draw the line, right, you know what I'm saying.
If you're in if you're in the market. That's a
weird place to draw the line. But I'm not buying
but sand But he know he came out with his Insta,
(41:51):
his Instagram Twitter video soon to break the Internet. I'm
sure busy day for the internet on time brads retirement
as Beyonce tickets also dropped. Uh so, just I didn't
know about that. Servers everywhere going you know about that?
How do you know about it? Because I'm I'm on Twitter, Vija,
how do you not? And I'm on Twitter? I'm on Twitter?
Way more to you? And I did not know about Beyonce.
Last week it was the Bruno Mars thing, Now Beyonce.
(42:15):
Last week it was Bruno Mars now Beyonce. What do
you have against like generational talents? Like what what's the deal?
What's the problem? Like, what do you have against the
generational commedian? The comedian in me? Just? I love I
love Joe. I feel like at a certain age, there's
your certain concerts you shouldn't go to. There's just certain
(42:35):
I was like shopping for Beyonce. Yeah, I knew about
it because did you watch the news? Like ticketmasters in
the middle of the whole freaking Congress inquiry because of
the way that these tickets are being sold. Yeah, you
know what I asked, I should answer my own question. Actually, no,
BJ because no, I don't and I don't. I don't know.
(42:59):
So that's so that's why you don't know that Beyonce
tickets this one on sale, because you just you know what.
That's a different story for a different I don't know
how you saw that. Tom Brady's heartfelt announcement he was
retiring for good. If you don't watch the news, was
Platsford everywhere across the board. But it looks like the
goat is hanging him up. And I'll be honest, I
had a whole lot of nice things to say this
(43:19):
time last year. I really did. I feel like I
said him all already. He's the best quarterback I've ever
seen in my lifetime. And you know, he's one of
the the singular winning that he was able to do.
I don't know if we'll ever be able to see
it accomplished in the same way, especially when you look
at some of the contemporaries in terms of the winning,
like a guy like Patrick Mahomes would be on track,
but he doesn't have the Super Bowl records already. Right,
(43:41):
he doesn't have the Super Bowl win loss record, I
should say, or even the ANFC Championship game win loss
record that Brady did. So I don't know if you
ever see it again. I think Patrick Mahomes might be
trending that way if he continues over the next ten
years to continue what he did for the first five
he's been starting. But again, that just goes to show you.
That's like saying, yeah, I could to Alaska if I
started walking today. You know what I'm saying, But it's
(44:04):
gonna take forever. Yeah. Well, I didn't have anything to
say because at this point last year when he retired,
I didn't think he was gonna be I didn't think
it was real. I came on, I was like, he's
not retiring, He'll come back, guys. I just think that
there's some things going on and his personal life that's
kind of forcing his retirement, which played out to be true.
And I'd like to stay all for people's personal stuff,
y'all know me. I don't like getting in too much
(44:25):
as far as athletes personal stuff. That's their personal lives.
I talk about the game and what they're doing all
the other stuff. But I just looked at and saying,
and that kind of feels like, no, you told me
you were retiring the kids older. Now you have nothing
left to prove. Because it was off that interview where
he said there's just something psychotic about me, man that
I just gotta go and you know, throw a freaking spiral.
I just got you guys, remember that interviews like I
(44:45):
just gotta it's some psychotic about me. I said, yeah,
he's he's not retiring any talking like that. He's not retired.
But I'm with you. He's the best quarterback I've ever seen.
I believe he's the best quarterback that's ever Grace, God's
Green Earth. As far as the sport of football is concerned,
first and yards, first and completions, person attempts, first and touchdowns,
and a tenth and passer rating. The seven Super Bowls,
three time All Pro, fifteen Pro Bowls, and the five
(45:07):
Super Bowl MVPs like real talk bump just the rings,
five m vps and the Super Bowl out of the
seven nighty one five. These these numbers I think are
like Joe DiMaggio type type uh streak. You just can't
like Jack Nicholson with the eighteen with the eighteen majors
(45:27):
in golf. You're you're just you're not gonna No one's
catching these And I think that puts him up there,
and I just believe he's done. I I thought the
video was very well done, and he even admitted it. Look,
I used up my emotional you know, my emotional retirement
last year. So I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna make
it like I know guys who actually cried one time
(45:49):
Brady retired. And it's not to be ridiculous and like
the idea that that, but it's a thing, and like, oh,
he's been a part of my life for a very
long time, very long time. You know what I'm saying.
It's like he's been no where you square the circle
on Tom Brady, He's been the part of your life.
You can't miss it. He's most recognizable football player in America.
He's got a dog. On movie eighty for Brady, which
(46:10):
is a true story about the people's seventy two year
old friendship sent it around the last twenty years of
Tom Brady's career, four women on a road trip to
go to the Super Bowl to see Tom Brady. Jane
Fonds is in a blockbuster about Tom Brady. So, I
mean that just goes to show you, like we're over
here making jokes about they make a movie about brock
Purty if he goes and wins the Super Bowl, right,
we make a joke that they made a movie about
(46:31):
Kurt Warner right after his career with Tom Brady's queer
wasn't even done yet when they made you know, saying
Kurt Warning was about number for ten years. It's just
you know, so, I mean, love him or hate him,
you had to respect him, right, And I think that
ultimately you look at all the Super Bowl m vps
and the Super Bowls and you want to pull Coles
and yeah, James White should have been the one. Should
(46:52):
have been the m v P for one, that Atlanta
super Bowl or whatever could have been. But but ultimately, holistically,
when you put onto the when you look under, when
you when you unfold that umbrella and you're standing under
all that is Tom Brady, Like, it's the most decorated
and the it's gonna be really difficult for somebody to
unseat this. But you know what, for the last fifty
(47:13):
years people were talking about nobody will ever be Kareem
scoring record, and here we are. So I'm not saying
it will never be done in terms of what Tom
Brady stats and whatever. And I also think that we're
kind of we'll move into a place of where, Okay,
Tom Brady is gonna have the singular win, the most
winning percentages and all of that, right, But then we
probably get to a Jordan Lebron scenario where, let mean,
(47:34):
let's think my homes goes to anh championship game next
five years in a row and keeps losing Super Bowls.
People will be like, well, what do you mean. He's like,
he's right there with Brady. He's just that this bad
luck and that bad luck and this bad luck. So
I could see that scenario happening as well. We're four
or five years from now, our ten years from now,
we're having like the Jordan Lebron debate in the NFL.
I don't think anybody catches some of these numbers though.
(47:55):
I don't know one's getting Super Bowl. It's like, nobody's
gonna win six, no one wants. No one's gonna win
six and a finals like that, and they're kind of
the same boat. That's why I say, like, what is
the points what like with Lebron and Kareem and the
points and Jordan chased in, Karmelone chased and Kobe chased it,
You're gonna have guys that are gonna chase it. I
eventually think maybe I would have said maybe three or
(48:15):
four years ago Durant would have a shot at it,
but he just keeps missing too much time. And Lebron
has just been a staple of consistency and as long
as he's been able to do it, hats off to
him for that. But Brady also played twenty two years,
so to catch some of these numbers, you got a
lot of football to play, Like Pat Mahomes, You've got
a lot of football to play to catch almost ninety
(48:37):
thousand passing yards. I mean, he's put these records so
far in front of everybody else that would be chasing him. Yeah,
we always we always can say, well, no one's ever
gonna catch and yeah, maybe someone will, but man, it's
it's definitely gonna be in the next twenty five years.
Because my Homes in year forced to five, he needs
(48:57):
another eighteen years to get these. Well he's in your
five now, okay, you're five. As a well, it depends.
It depends because on the winning side and all that
Brady wasn't. I mean, there's a period in time of
like there were really two evers sort of of Brady's
Super Bowls, Right, You had the first half, and then
they went through a period where some of the better
(49:19):
teams they had, the undefeated team falls from Eli Manning
and something like that, that two thousand eight period of
time where you know, they have Randy Moss and it's
one of the most more dynamic offenses, but not necessarily
catching him at the end. And then he kind of
came back around as the older as the older fellow, right,
and then got three more, three more in New England
and then one in Tampa. Right. So the thing that
(49:41):
I see now, the thing that I would give Chiefs
fans and people who are like saying, like, all right,
is this competition gonna be real? The thing I would
say that would give you like a good feeling about it.
The Chiefs now are in their second generation. Like outside
of Kelsey, Tyreek Hill is gone, the offensive lines revamped,
(50:02):
Eric Barry, Tyrann, Matthew, you name it. You know, the
trevarious awards playing in San Francisco, the big money guys
are out of there, and now you're looking at try
McDuffie's is the first round picking. You're you're furious, George
Carl Loft, this as as you know, the second round pick.
But you know I'm saying, and you're looking at Isaiah Pachecko,
seventh round pick, he's gonna play a big role this
time now on Sunday next Ti, I'm sorry, Super Bowl Sunday.
(50:24):
He's gonna have a big game and he's gonna be
a big part of their offensive offensive plans. So I
think that what you see now is the Kansas City
team that has young talent across the board outside of
the quarterback, which is the thing that you are going
to have to have to continue to have sustained success. Yeah,
but at the running back position, look, uh, you know
Edwards Hilaire has already been replaced, right, so you've already
(50:48):
had this running back from LSU that people thought was
gonna be the back there was gonna be and we're
a year and a half later from that, and the
guy's not even you know, he's hurt, he's out kind
not even playing. And Pachenko's come in and really see
men in himself as the starting running back. I don't
know if you could continue to turn these pieces around
and Andy Reid continue to have this type of success.
(51:09):
Like I said, it's gonna take another fifteen years. Is
Andy read gonna coach there another fifteen years? I'll take
the under on that all day long. With an additional
two years. I give him maybe another decade or a
little less than a decade before he retires or he's
out of there. So Mahomes is not gonna have Andy
Reid for the rest of his career, and Andy Reid's
offensive prowless mentally for the rest of his career. Also too,
(51:30):
Mahomes has already been hurt several times. He runs, and
I know he's not a running quarterback, but he runs.
Brady was a statue. Brady was in the pocket. Brady
didn't run the one injury had a guy comes crashing
in up the middle to his knee again ironically against
Kansas City and Week one of that one season where
he towards a c L and missed the rest of
the year. But other than that, Brady is not moving around.
(51:52):
Brady's not running, He's not taking these big shots. I
don't know if Mahomes is gonna have the longevity to
even try to a coach these numbers records. As I
mentioned before I started talking about it, twenty two years,
that's a long time to play quarterback and essentially just
missed one year, like Brady, don't miss games, bro like that.
(52:14):
I just think these numbers are just these numbers are
just astronomical. Even when I wrote down the top ten
list of my top ten quarterbacks, and I divided everything
between touchdowns, yards, completions, and I I intiquated rings, production,
impact in leadership. So that's how I put my list together.
But when I was looking at Okay, first first first
that some of these guys, you look at where they're
ranking these categories, it's like wow, like paying touchdowns, yards,
(52:37):
completions third, third, fourth all time, But nobody would would
put him higher than what two or three or he's
He's not, He couldn't even most of the most of
the records that Brady broke a lot of the regular
seasons are owned by Drew Brees. Nobody's saying Drew Brees
is the top five quarterback ever. And I don't have
him as a top five quarter just but in terms
of seconds in passing yards. So that's why I say
(52:58):
it was gonna come down to winning. Brady going to
eight consecutive AFC Championship games thirteen in his career, that's
the type of thing that that you see, and like,
that's what is going to ultimately matter when it's coming down.
Anybody catches the seven Super Bowls, then it's really the question,
am I? Am I getting that right? Are you? Is
it just really the Super Bowls, the NC Championship Game wins.
Is that that stuff that I think that's what's going
(53:20):
to have to be there? Now you said not. Now
it's gonna sound crazy to say, but it says, Okay,
it took Brady twenty some years to get all that right,
So it's like you're operating under the assumption that it
would take somebody else, so like it would take at
least because they thold more now at least eighteen nineteen.
And all I'm saying is we're seeing a kids Since
(53:42):
the day he walked in as a starter, being a
it's been the Arrowhead Invitational through the ANFC Championship Game.
He's hosted five straight and look, I hear what everything
that you said is legitimate I'm not trying to say
it's not, but it's the amount of just starting success
verse winning success. If he start, he wins, right. You
know what I'm saying is like and there was a
(54:03):
period time for Tom Brady where that wasn't all the
way necessarily true. If my homes can continue on this path,
that's that's the biggest if. Ever, and if it was
a fifth we'd all be drunk, if we all be high.
So that's so that's kind of But but I would
say this the window I can see, it's not unplausible,
(54:23):
it's not ridiculous. It's not like you're telling me that
my Ford fusion is gonna take me to the moon,
like that will never happen. I can see something like
I could see this occurring. Do they even still make
a Ford fusion? Absolutely? I didn't know that. Okay, I'm
a com I'm I'm a Toyota guy, so you know
I didn't know about. For my grandfather, Clarence Spearman, a
great Clarence Lord Rest my grandfather and heaven. He was
(54:44):
a big four guy. When people used to make four jokes,
he would get very offended by it. Oh you got
a Ford or found on road dead because that's what
it also a Ford stands for. And he would look,
I never, I never had a problem with my grandfather
would say that fix it again, Tony Dale. That's FIAT football. Fans,

The news is losing, it's moving. The news is news,
(55:27):
and Kyrie is moving the needle. What I'm saying, Whoads
tweeting the Lost Angeles Clippers have emerged in pursuit of
a Kyrie every trade, joining the Lakers, Mavericks and Sons
and others. That's just after a day, he said. He
doesn't have a list to prefer teams, but Kyrie looking
like the Clippers at john Wall Experiment, I saw a
report just the other day looked like he might be
(55:48):
a potential buyout candidate. Why would you do that potentially
to open a spot for a guy like a Kyrie Irving. Yeah,
that disappoints me, man, because I was we were talking.
Boat came in. We were talking during the break. I
was all in on John Wall. I thought that was
a great pickup, and hey, look were hit and missing
this business. I get it. I'm a guy that's openly
to say, yeah, I missed when that would happen. I said,
all man, this will be great for him. He could
(56:10):
come in, he could spell Reggie Jackson, who I've never liked.
I thought, I think Reggie Jackson is the same player
now he was in Detroit. I have not seen a
progression where I thought, I think he's a better basketball player.
And I thought John Wall would answer that, and it
just hasn't been the case. Really really quick, because we
did touch on this a little bit too. When are
we gonna start this conversation that Tyler may not be
(56:31):
the great coach that you know that he's that he's
been built to be. When are we gonna start to
have that convo? I think roster regular, like a standard
regular roster that's available to play I really think though,
but with the in and outside the lineups, Like I
really think that that's what's holding everybody back from saying, hey,
what's wrong with Tyler? If they're if there are people
(56:52):
that feel that way like I, I kind of don't
understand what the Clippers are supposed to do with this
part time lineup, like and I get it, like the
Clippers to mere optimizing for for the playoffs is you've
jumped the shark at this point. At some point, the
car still gotta run before you get to the race.
You know what I'm saying, before you get to the
I'll put it like this, you better practice your tooth
(57:13):
step before you get to the dance. Oh yeah, you
know what I'm saying. You can't figure you don't look
out there trying to lead with it, rock with it.
You better figure your say what's that that before you
get to the dance. All right, that's what the Clippers.
The Clippers is like watching them DV dems just saying no,
I got this, I got my big tea. I'm just
gonna walk in there and do it just like them
franchise boys do. And that's not how this goes. Yeah,
(57:36):
Well they're sitting in the fifth tea right now. They're
eight and a half out, so they won't catch any
of the top two. They could get as high as
three maybe, but as you said, on the road is
just where they're having problems to fifteen and fifteen. And
it's funny too, they're the only team in the league
that has at an even zero a lot with the Millitota.
Timber was as far as scoring differentials concerned, one one
ten point five, giving up one ten point five, scored
(57:59):
six and four in the last ten. So I just
I get what you're saying, but I still think good
coaches or who you're telling me is a great coach,
and we've been told Toronto louis a great coach. You
still can make lemonade, you know what I'm saying, out
of a few limits. Even if you don't have a
lot of sugar, it's gonna be a little sour, it's
gonna be a little bitter. But it ain't just limit water.
I got a little sugar, so you got a little lemonade.
(58:22):
I just uh with the last time you had a
healthy Kauai, they ran Rudy Gobert out of Youthah, you
didn't get what I just did right there with the
lemonade thing off, the Beyonce reference from last segment. I
mean I did, But I mean how many other people
are listening from last segment? I don't know. But also
to you ignore everything about you, you ignore our cultural
icons and they're greatness. I'm just I've been clowning man.
(58:45):
I'm a comedian bro twenty one years in the bucket, man,
But what do you think you do? You think it's
just posture from the clippers. Both both takes, is just
both tasts. He's just jumping there bow. I vote tas
is just smoke. You know he's not buying it, are you? Both? Well?
Like when you read the article like it's all stuff,
It was just reported yesterday, So I think Adrian probably
needed a couple of clicks or two on his on
(59:06):
his article. Damn Adrian. I mean everybody everybody knew that.
Everybody threw the clippers out there yesterday because everybody knows
they need a point guard. So I think you're going
to see that a lot throughout the week. You threw
Kyle I was lame out there too. My response was
a thirty seven year old point guard. I think like
a Kyle Lowry or Fred van Vleet make a lot
(59:29):
more sense for the Clippers and a Kyrie Irving. You
think Fred has moved. Friend's name has come up a
lot the last few three days. I think he's an
understricted free agent as far as I know. Um, So
that makes sense to me. The biggest thing about what
Will just tweeted, uh is the Nets are proceeding and
talked throughout the league as if they're determined to find
the lead a deal for Irving ahead a Thursday's deadline.
(59:50):
Which I've been saying is that four o'clock is at
three o'clock. So if they're trying to make to do
at four o'clock three three eastern, right for us out here, now, Okay,
So that's what I feel. Okay, if you want to
just take the last two big trade request from Brooklyn
and look at them on their own islands. The reason
(01:00:11):
why Kevin Durant didn't get traded was because the asking
price was absurd, in part because of the asking price
that Rudy Gobert was able to fetch. You mean you
trade I cannot trade in good contients if I'm the
Brooklyn Nets, I can't trade Kevin Durant for less than
what Rudy Gobert got and if I'm the rest of
the n B A uh, just because the Timberwolves are
some idiots. I'm not about to trade five first round
(01:00:33):
picks for Kevin Duraland you think you can do that
in the NBA is bilagues against that. You don't trade
Kevin Durant. I'm sorry. If Kevin Durant leaves your free agency,
that's fine. You do not trade a seven foot wing
guy who's basically a guard who can score at all
three levels on any other player in the n b A.
(01:00:54):
You don't do it. You get in the room, you
put the cell phones away, you get off the social
media like roll men do, and you have what's up,
Like what's the problem. Like if when you got a
problem with me, Bro, holler at me, let's go get
some wings in the beard, let's go stand in the
park a lot. But holler at me, though, Bro, like
what's going on? You don't trade Kevin Durant. That's that
(01:01:15):
was just that's crazy. That that's why that deal didn't happen.
They asking price whatever, I'm not trading a top five player.
I'm not doing it. Hey, they are for me a
top five package. Back, I can see it. People get hey, look,
I understand what you're saying in terms of like the Lakes,
Like the Lakers are not gonna trade Lebron because then
like what the whole Lakers strategy is, like we have
(01:01:35):
to sign the biggest free agent now. So if they're
not gonna do something like that, if I'm Brooklyn and
then you look at the Brooklyn that's that we're just
four or five years ago. Is hard to remember, but
the carros Leverts of spunky six seed five s like
that were fighting and I think it was on the bench, okay,
but I mean Kenny Atkinson was coach of that team. There,
(01:01:57):
My guy, Kenny, Kenny sin was the coach of that team.
But I mean, if you look at the NETS standings
right now, where are that for five in the West?
Like you know what? So if I understand what you're saying,
you got a pantheon guy, a top five guy, somebody
who's in the history of the NBA, one of the
gonna be He's a first name star, as I would
(01:02:19):
like to say, as as as Beyonce Madonna, Lebron Jordan's
you know, what I'm saying, Katie's a first name star, like,
he's somebody you don't need to you don't need the
back half. If you trade Kevin Durant, mark my words, guy,
if they break this up, the Brooklyn Nets will be
irrelevant in the National Basketball Association for the next decade. You,
mark my words. There's not a guy in college coming
(01:02:42):
guys like, there's not The basketball has changed so much
of My brother, Dennis and I were talking about this,
and you spoke to Dennis through Twitter about the training
and the stuff like that. He's around these kids. He
tweets all day every day about what he sees and
upcoming players. And nine times at attend my brother's right,
whether we agree or not, he'd be point with the
basketball where there's not on the Kobe, a Lebron, a Durant,
(01:03:04):
a Dirk like. And I'm talking about that Cloud Wade
a mellow. There's not that guy coming that I foresee.
There's not that guy coming the league. Man, you think
you're getting another Durant, You think you're getting another Kyrie.
Good luck, it's not happening. They break this up, as
you suggest, Martin, Oh my god, ten years, bro, Well,
(01:03:28):
what I do see on the horizon. I just saw
Lebron James make a free throw, but I don't think
it's gonna have much of a impact on the outcome
of the game. Steve to say, we will have that
and everything else in the world of sports. Steve was
trending my guy, Well, the New Orleans Pelicans have lost
ten games in a row, and they're leading the Lakers
by five with under twenty seconds left now one Anthony
(01:03:50):
Davis thirty four points. Lebron James in this game, twenty
five points, but one of seven from three point range. Meanwhile,
the Nets were down twenty three at home. About ten
seconds left, they're leading Washington one, four, one, twenty three.
Cam Thomas has forty one points off the bench. Make
it forty three now. Chris stops porzingis of Washington with
(01:04:11):
thirty eight points. Is Bradley Beale is out for the Wizards,
Tony with a sore foot, and Kyle Kuzma left this
game with a sprained ankle. Kyrie Irving out for the
Nets due to a sore calf after he just has
to be traded. This would be an incredible comeback victory
for them, and it would put the Brooklyn record at
thirty two and twenty by the way, and give him
a rare win without Durant in the light up. Kevin
(01:04:31):
Durant could return from injury to play in the next
couple of weeks. Clippers are winning mid third quarter at
New York seventy nine to seventy three, and the Sons
have a big lead early third quarter at Detroit sixty
six to forty nine. To college hoops at u c
l A and their ranked ninth in the country, Bruins
lead Washington State fifty three thirty eight about ten minutes ago. Earlier,
(01:04:52):
Number one Perdue lost at number twenty one Indiana, Whosiers
beat him seventy nine seventy four. If you saw the
number two Tennessee va Als host Auburn, you will never
get those two hours back in your life. Forty three vols.
The final wins also in the top ten for Alabama,
Virginia Tech beat number six Virginia, and Texas came back
to win at number seven Kansas State. The NHL All
(01:05:15):
Star Game was won by the Atlantic Division in Florida.
The Dallas Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer's offensive coordinator. He was
a consultant there. Last year, NASCAR opened Sunday night on
Fox TV with the Clash at the l A Coliseum,
a quarter mile track on the floor of the coliseum
this weekend. This is an exhibition which debuted last year
and a debuted with over fifty fans, most attending their
(01:05:36):
first race. The Daytona five hundred to officially start the
NASCAR season is about two weeks away. Super Bowl, of
course on Fox TV this year a week from Sunday,
Casey Philadelphia back team sponsib Just the line of your
not getting those two hours back from that Tennessee in
(01:05:57):
Harvard basketball game right right to it was almost like
a j V high school game, right man. Craziness with
that score. But I just love that line. Yeah, you're
not getting those two hours back, ladies and jen and
it's not half that. Martin d vij coming to your
live from the tirect dot com studios. Shout out the
Sooner fan night two on Twitter, this guy's between that
this all show. I'm reading that and he just posted
(01:06:20):
a picture of him and Bret Venables, So I like
to think that right now Bret Venibles can hear us,
as as as as Harry James Taylor Sooner fan nine
eight two on Twitter, it seems to have taken over Oklahoma.
I love it. I love it, says Martin and Martin Husky.
I don't know if OU football will become as dominant
as OU gymnastics, men's gymnastics, or softball. But this coach
(01:06:42):
Venables should help, right. That's me with the man with
the plan and the n C Double A Norman regionals.
So I do have to say this, My man in
law Murray covers the Clippers for the athletic. There's a
great job. On Twitter, Law Murray the n you. I
don't know what the NU means, but he covers the Clippers,
so just know that. But he says that sources tell
(01:07:02):
the Athletic that I'm sorry VJ before I get into this.
Are you okay with me reading something from a source?
And I am, but I'm reading it with you because
the Athletic that the l A Clippers have made a strong,
strong offer to the Brooklyn that's for Kyrie Irving and
the head coach Tron Lewis opened to coaching Irving again
after the two one of championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers
(01:07:23):
and sixteen I mean as we watched the Lakers about
to lose to the New Orleans Pelicans, who used to
be pretty much the New Orleans I mean the Los
Angeles trade st J McCollum throws the ball into the rafters,
hits it with this knee. That game's over. One thirty
one one six as Larry Nance and Lebron James share
a moment, former Laker teammates, and it looks like maybe
(01:07:45):
potentially former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Lebron James and Kyrie Irving
will be in the same building but in different beautiform. Now, now,
I'm gonna touch on this right here, because I was
listening to some of the local stuff. I had a
bunch of errands yesterday and I listened to sports talk radio.
Mars wrote it with me in my car. He knows,
I mean the is in a sports art radio or
I'm listening to classical Mozark. I don't really listen to
a lot of rapid hip hop. I say that for
(01:08:05):
the gym and when i'm home and when i'm home chilling.
So I'm riding around yesterday and there everybody, of course
here in l A. We're gonna get Kyrie if you
get Kyrie, look at the schedule, Look what's coming up
that to night. And they started naming the games coming up,
and I remember very vividly, oh, well tomorrow they got
the Pelicans, they'll when that, that will be an easy one.
And here we are and you have Lebron on the floor,
(01:08:26):
and you have a d on the floor, and you
still give up one thirty one two the Pelicans who
have who Zion his his rehabit has been pushed back
another week or two. He's not even on the floor.
Even if you get Kyrie. And they're a good friend
of both of ours and also a colleague of ours.
Here Fox Sports Radio, Chrissarry was on his show First
(01:08:46):
Things First and said he pounded the table. He said,
if they get Kyrie, they're coming out of the West. Now,
I say all I have to say, Kyrie does not
fix their problems people, He just doesn't. I think he's
a great player and always Robert Kyrie, y'all know that.
But getting him and then giving away a lot of
these pieces that you already have there, it's not going
(01:09:08):
to assure you're coming out of the West once again.
Why would you do the move? You would only do
it because this is what Lebron wants. I don't think
it's what Genie wants. I don't think it's what Rob wants.
But the whole Clipper thing, it's now got my attention.
Because toront Lou did coaching in Cleveland, were so attached
to him and Lebron in Cleveland, we do forget that
Toronto is out and we know Kyrie wants to come
(01:09:29):
to l A. Has got a house out here, he
lives out here, trains out here. You never say one
to the point for the l A. Just real quick,
A lot of people want to come to l A.
If you've never been to l A, that's a beautiful place.
It's a beautiful place. My bedroom window right now is open.
L A is a lovely place. So I just I
just want to say on one jacket whatever everybody tag
jacket with this superstar wants to come to l A,
(01:09:50):
you would too, if you all right, That's all I
got to say, no, no, no no, near You're fine because
I agree with that. Like whenever you have friends and
family members come out here, don't they always call you
like a week later? Like yo, man, I'm thinking a
move and I'm like shut up. No, you're not stay back.
When the ease goes, stay where you are. People come
visit me here and they fall in love with this place,
and they go, you know what, man, I'm gonna move
nob not. You're gonna stay where you are. Go back
(01:10:12):
to where you If you want to come back and visit,
I'll pick you up from bird Baker, from l Ax.
But you're not moving out. I've had twenty people telling
me they're moving out here in the decade I've lived
in Los Angeles. You're not coming out here. It's a
great city. Martin's exactly right. But does Kyrie just want
to come to l a are specifically? Where does he
want to come? And if you do this trade, do
you go ahead and put a deal on the table
now after when he gets here? Said, listen, what trade
(01:10:33):
for you? But let's get a deal done now. We're
not letting you get the free agency to something. I
think ultimately, if you're not, if you're gonna get into
the Kyrie Irving business, you gotta be ready to make
that deal right now. You gotta be right now. Can't
wait till June. Right now, Well, because here's the deal.
Mark mcdena Elands earlier today. You just look down the
(01:10:53):
timeline of Kyrie since post Cleveland, it's been hit or miss,
and the missages like not him missing shots, the messages
like is he gonna be here? Is it? Like I said, Kyrie? Bueller? Bueller, Bueller,
I don't know. Would you make a move for Kyrie
if you're a g M if Martin White? Okay, all right?
(01:11:14):
That was quite wow. No, because ultimately, at the end
of the day, I think Jacque Bond has I think
Jack Bond has the best point of all of this
he made I'm paraphrasing right now because I can't find
the exact paper, but he said it's sexually that when
he may decided to be the coach of the Brooklyn Nets,
he made a commitment. He expects that same level of
commitment one through seventeen. That's I have real trouble with you.
(01:11:38):
I don't care how good you are if it being
a part time guy, in part because I can't count
on you for my team. So I'm only gonna be
as good as you can make me when you're here.
The best ability is availability to available. That's a little
bit of a cliche that the best ability is being
really really good. But right underneath it, availability helps up.
(01:11:59):
You could be really really good. But if you're not there, though, Martin,
if you're not there, I know, I still think that's
number one man, And ability is being there. Well, I
say this, we generally we talked about the best ability
is availability. We're normally talking about somebody who's been injured
a bunch, like we talked about the best ability is
availability for a guy like Anthony Davis, right, who's been
heard a ton and not. The expectation is had Anthony
(01:12:23):
Davis not been injured, he would have played All Lady two. Yeah,
do you know what I'm saying. But that's that's what
kind of what we're talking about. Was like, it's it's
just a bit, It's just it's just really hard for
me to score the circle of a part time guy.
Do you think the heat jump in this big time
reading a few tweets here to our show right now
to Will Leverson, he asked me, because I think Miami,
He says, I think Kyrie to Miami has a bit
(01:12:44):
more championship trajectory than a trade to the Lakers. I mean, sure, if,
but from everything that I have heard of Jimmy Butler.
He's not like Jimmy Butler in Miami for that matter,
not a fan of Kyrie, you know, I don't Oh,
they're not a fan of guys you don't seem to
be all in. Okay, Okay, that's that's well. He was
(01:13:04):
like that in Minnesota. So that's what I'm saying. He
was the guys who are now seemed to be all
in the famously the story about we punk car any
towns there practice because he's like, dude, you need to
be better than you are. You need to be better
than the players. You need to be the best player
on this team. Right. So, like, I don't know how
he's gonna feel about Kyrie, you know, and his curiousness.
(01:13:24):
I don't think pat Riley would want anything to do
with Kyrie Irving. That's the other one. Really, you don't
think Pat can get You don't think Pat may think
I think I can get this guy. I think Pat
probably could do that. I don't think Kyrie would respond
well to the leadership that Ley I don't see. I
feel I got no beet right now about the buy in.
All we ever hear about is he culture? He culture?
(01:13:47):
He culture? And how do you how does that play?
You don't as I'm telling Kyrie like, no, you gotta,
I just don't see it. I don't see Dons be
ready to fight. But coming up next, the Los Angeles
Dodgers finally made this move and it's well overdue. We'll
get into that next. Fox Sports Radio Martin and VJ.
Martin and VIJ come into You Alive from the t
iraq dot com studios. The Brooklyn Nets win against the
(01:14:10):
Washington win. They came back twenty point leads. That's that's something.
How about that? Yeah, I mean so so so much
for our Kyrie saying, hey, you know so much for that,
right bro? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
The play setting out might not have been the play
(01:14:33):
that might have that might not have been to play
apro read might not have been to play. But a
big day here in Los Angeles. As the announcement comes down,
Fernando Venezuela's number. Valenzuela's number will be retired number thirty
four for the Dodgers, who, as somebody VJ not have
died in the baseball fan I found, I learned about
(01:14:54):
baseball as as I grew old up from the wounds.
We played football on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and then
my to day through Thursday as well. Right, so it's
one of my time for baseball. And and unless you
were actually playing baseball out there, right, But when I
first went to my first game and Dodger Stadium, I
saw so many thirty four's out there. In terms from
the fans. It's it's Bill Plasky put it in his
(01:15:16):
column earlier today. It's only rivaled by Kershaw in terms
of the number of thirty four as you see for
for Vandal Venezuela. And now his number will be officially
retired after grassroots efforts to make sure nobody wore thirty
four again. It's gonna be on the books. Yeah, no,
I was. I was so proud of this man having
my Hispanic and Latina heritage and my blood and my family. Man.
(01:15:38):
That's one thing I love about baseball is the influx
of the Latina and the Hispanic players that have come
from their different countries. Man, sometimes in the middle of night,
sometimes sneaking here are you know, changing their names or
whatever they gotta do to get here, just to be
able to make some money and play the game. They
love to support their families all back home. And I
grew up, you know, loving the Dodgers watching them play
(01:15:59):
from the East Coast. I wasn't a fan, but I
used to really like watching them play because they were
the Dodgers as l A right and Fernando Venezuela. He
I mean, you talk about a guy with a cy
young he was Rookie of the Year. He's got a
world serious. He was a two time Silver slugger Man
and the Gold Glove. So he's a guy. He's not
just he's not chopped liver man. He's not Carni inside
of the tacos from the from the taco car. He's
(01:16:21):
Carnier inside of tacos from the restaurant downtown. My friend
like this guy right here. It's l A and its
Dodger as it gets. And I was so excited, and
I was listening to this live. I'm leaving the gym
to there, I'm on my way home. I throw on
five seventy five seventies. It has the live um, the
live showing that they're doing at Dodger Stadium from the
(01:16:41):
Dodgers stands and stage out there and left field at
the show that they do there and it just made
me feel so good. I get home boats texting us about, Hey,
we're gonna talk. Hey, listen, let's go with it. Yes,
I want to talk about that because this made me
feel really, really good man, And I would love to
be able to grab tickets and go to night that
they actually have him his family come out on to
the you know, come out onto the baseball field and
(01:17:02):
and dropped a little drape and curtain from the number.
I would love to be there and hopefully tickets aren't
just crazy. But yeah, you're right, man, you go to
one of these games on me. There's a lot of
thirty fours in Chavez Ravine and a lot of so
when you're in l A, people like the Lakers. Don't
get me wrong, people have your You will find a
Clippers fan here there. But you know, it's a Lakers
(01:17:23):
town primarily, but overwhelmingly, it's a Dodger down totown. Los
Angeles is a baseball town. L A is a Dodger city.
And from what I can gather in Bow, I know
you're a big into this, but he had a huge part.
Fernandomania had a huge part. And why that is the case. Yeah, yeah, no,
I I think Steve can better speak to that. I
just for me, it's uh, it's great to see them
(01:17:45):
finally do this because they had a ridiculous rule where
you had to be a Hall of Famer to have
your number retired for the Dodgers. Yeah, and there are
too many guys that are not going to make the
Baseball Hall of Fame because we know how hard it
is that are key members of the Dodgers history. So
hopefully we can see Oral hush Eiser number up there. Uh.
Justin Turner's number should absolutely be retired whenever he's finished
with his career. But yeah, for the impact of Allen's, well,
(01:18:07):
it's it's nuts. And I'm sure Steve is Piazza's number retirable.
Uh he wants nothing to do with the Dodgers, so
I can. I can appreciate the rule in general, but ultimately,
I think when you have a scenario like this, it's
it's a bit much. I get you want your Hall
of Fame, your Ring of Fame, whatever to be high standing,
but I mean, at the end of the day, people
(01:18:28):
make huge impacts. Is Steve, what was just saying, you
can speak more to fernand for popularity is enormous since
the early eighties. And by the way, you guys failed
to mention that Fernando's Rookie of the Year and a
Cy Young and a Silver Slugger Award and his World
Series title. We're all in the same year his very
first year in the majors in and he wound up
(01:18:48):
from year one being an All Star in the National
League six straight years. Because it was six straight years
and not ten or twelve. No, he's never going to
get into the Hall of Fame. But ever since he
stopped being a Dodger after in ninety, they've never issued
the number thirty four. And now it's retired who clubhouse
director would not allow to get Now that will be
(01:19:11):
up on the wall. August eleven to thirteenth will be
the retirement ceremony. So if you're interested in that, go
out get tickets. Colorado Rockies will be in town. But
there you go for Nan Domania back one more time.
I would love to be there and take my son
to that man. That's like I said, that just made
that that felt It's whether you like the Dodgers or not.
Didn't Didn't that feel good? Right? Bo? That's one of
those things. It just it felt good, right, It just
(01:19:33):
felt like wow, man, about damn time. And these are
just one of those stories. Like I said, it is
a feel good story, whether you're a fan of the
Dodgers or a fan in him not because he definitely
deserves it. Coming up next, we'll get into Sean Payton
and Denver Broncos, Martin and VJ on Fox Sports Radio.
And you know what, I'm not happy about it. I'm
not happy on Sean Payton that one bit. That's right. Martin,
(01:19:56):
come into you live from the Tirac dot Com studio.
Tirac dot Com will help you get there with the
unmatched elections fast free ship of free run hazard protection.
Over ten thousand recommended his dollars tire rack dot com
the way tire buying should be. And VJ, I love
it when this happens. I love him when this happens,
when the sponsor rejis lines right up to Sean Payton,
tires up off off the tarmac in l a X
(01:20:17):
all the way out there to Denver. Apparently Denver's defensive
coordinator whose name I struggle with, but he's a brilliant
defensive coordinator. But he's open for open an interview and
wherever he needs to go because apparently Sean Payton bringing
his own guy and won't be Vic Fangio, who's defensive
coordinator with the Dolphins. There you go, but the fact remains,
the Broncos and Saints were able to to come to
(01:20:40):
terms on compensation in terms of Sean Payton's coaching rights,
and then the bron Goes in Sean Payton were able
to come to terms on him. His coaching contract with
the Devil Broncoes looks about five years, somewhere between seventeen
and twenty million. My goodness, well, they're over paying for him.
In my opinion, I think they reached for him. And
this felt like a desperation move on both parties because
(01:21:04):
most people, including myself and people here at Fox Sports Radio,
we thought that his job was right down the one
on one and you take the one on one down
to the five, and you take that on down to
the take the only take the one on one down.
So it was that the ten of the once in
and so far sitting right there for you are you
taking down to the four or five? It was right there.
(01:21:24):
We thought that Charger job would be wide open for him.
The front office didn't move on it. They fired the coordinator,
got another offensive coordinator in there. Head coaching is in place,
and that job is not available for him. Denver actually
wanted Ryan's first They they've said he was their first pick.
He chose to go to Houston, so Denver wasn't even
(01:21:46):
They weren't even like all in on Sean Payton being
there guy. He was their third guy. So this felt
like desperation. And Sean Payton is the guy who put
out a list of what he wanted in his next
coaching spot, his old quarterback, to develop. Plenty of golf,
no colde weather. This is the stuff he put out.
(01:22:07):
It's not a lot of golf in Denver. I've been there.
I've called college football games in the state of Colorado.
Not a lot of golf in the time that you
that you would want to be playing golf. But I
don't know, I don't know how much golf there is
not but I know there's not a lot of golf
playing months. Yeah, exactly, not there, not there in Colorado.
So it felt desperation for both of them. And I'm
gonna echo our good buddy rob who said that if
(01:22:30):
they pay over fifteen, he's robbing them. And this contract
seventeen to twenty million dollars, they have no picks. You've
given up all this money for him and Russell Wilson,
who you still owe two hundred plus guaranteed million dollars
to this thing. Man, this thing has in my it's
got disaster written all over. And I think we'll both
(01:22:53):
agree Drew Brees is a better quarterback than Russell Wilson.
So okay, so you're taking a step back, and and
I don't think it's can he save Russell Wilson because
I don't think Russell Wilson is saving what you know
can be saved in this whole Can he fix him? Wait?
What do you mean? Can you fix him? He's not broken,
He's just falling off a cliff, Ladies and gentlemen, boys
(01:23:14):
and girls. This is what happens in pro sports. So
I'm not I'm bro I'm not feeling this movie. It
felt like desperate. The word that comes to my mind,
desperation on both parties. I don't see the desperation for
Sean because ultimately Sean could just keep I mean, I'll
put it like this, Colin cow Hurt, Colin cow Hurts couch.
(01:23:34):
Maybe I don't think I'm telling turns out of school
when I say it would be open for Sean Payton
once a week. Should he want to join it? Do
you want to come back until he until you want
to come back into the league. And if Coyle Hurt's
couch ain't open, he can't going to CBS AB you
you name it, right, Howie and Terry will slide over
and allow Sean Payton to sit up there on Sunday
morning to talk about what's going on. Had no issue
(01:23:57):
with doing Hell, there's a little bit. Yeah, okay, ain't
nobody are on their tripping alright. Let me tell you something.
He could be highly compensated to do that as well. Okay,
I just put it. He ain't making those seventeen twenty
million however he making. He making some bang. But I
do think his coaching reputation means something to him, and
(01:24:18):
that there's a lot of these guys. So while he
can bomb and still get paid, I do think his
coaching reputation, but he doesn't want You could just sit
there and then retired as the King of New Orleans.
You know what I'm saying, you could have done that,
thank you, Like that's what that's what you could have
still paying. But you know what, I can I take
a second just for the New Orleans Saints. Look, a
(01:24:40):
team would formerly like I call low sports self esteem.
You know, they had low selfish and then they get
Drew Brees who was a castaway from San Diego, and
Sean Payton, right, and they make it work in his
fifteen years of beauty, fifteen years of just amazing, all right,
and I get there's no hard feelings on. You're tired,
(01:25:00):
you want to retire, you want to come out there
and go talk to Colin Cowherd. All right, man, do
you think baby? I get it. I get it. Thanks
for the memories. However, when we're coming back into the foe,
you say, so you know you want to work again.
All right, well, we still got your rights. Maybe we
can get more for a guy who, like you said,
(01:25:21):
the Denver Broncos. The Denver Broncos and then Rappingport reported
this as well. They tried to get the Mico Ryans. Yes,
then they called Jim Harball. Yeah, they went they went
to a harbor. Then they called him able Go allay
the Arbor Arburg not in Arballa, though negotiated deal with
Sean Payton. Brock Bertie gets hurt, John trying it comes
(01:25:45):
in for the night, his lose. Okay, The Denver Broncos
called the Miko Ryans back again. Baby, you sure you sure?
You sure you sure? The Miko said yeah, I'm good,
and then Sean was right there to me VJ. This
is it's one five in the morning. The lights are
(01:26:06):
coming on after the next song. You gotta make a decision.
You gotta pull some you gotta do something something, You
gotta do something. If I'm Sean Payne, I mean, I'm
sorry if I'm a New Orleans Saints knowing that closing
time is coming and you ain't gotta go home, but
you can't stay here, all right, No, I'm gonna making
pay a little bit more than the price for Davante Adams,
(01:26:29):
our first round pick and the second and third swap.
That's literally I tweeted this out, I said, I tweeted
it at the time. I said, wow, I would have
loved to see the best coach in franchise history get
traded for more than theron the wide receiver, and I
didn't know that. But going back, that's exactly the package
Damn Davante Adams got traded for the Oakland to Las Vegas.
(01:26:51):
I was just like, man, you have an opportunity to
kind of rebuild the re restock, especially after you traded
c J. Carter Johnsons of the Eagles for what Yeah, yeah,
he's gonna do with Oh he's gonna do is starting
to slot in the super Bowl. You know what I'm saying.
That's all he's gonna do. He's gonna be a part
of the Travis Kelsey double team eight days from now.
(01:27:14):
That's because you got you got you know, you got
a lovey there, you got you got some weapons there
that I can see why they made that movie. I
still think it's Operation. I still think it's desperation though,
even on Sean Payton, because I I thought with with
with with a sense of entitlement of sitting on Collins
couch that hey, that we all know that Job's mind
(01:27:39):
right over there and so far. That's why I can
lean back and put my arms back on the on
the on the head of the couch and crossing my leg.
You know, some guys sit when they crossed there they
put the put the ankle up on the knee and
leave like they come, I'm bro I'm good. And even
and even other hosts and shows he's been on, they've
all they've all mentioned that team. They all mentioned the Chargers.
(01:27:59):
They all think, oh, no, that guy's getting the Stanley
is getting fired. Guys getting fired. The jobs right there.
You got Herbert keenan Allen. You're running Austin Ekeler defense,
l a so far golf, warm weather, and you're a
young car. It's all right there. And I really thought
he was in his head like no, man, this is
We're good, this is mine. And the Charges were like, no,
(01:28:20):
we're just gonna change the coordinator. We don't fire coaches
like that if you haven't paid attention to our front
office and the ownership group. They don't move that way.
I eat North Turner, I eat Marty Schottenheimer. We've seen
it before, guys, I forget the guy's name slipping my mind.
Took them to the Super Bowl with Stan Humphreys at quarterback.
He used to coach. He was the coaching Detroit with
(01:28:40):
the lines that that it's slipping my Bobby Bobby Bobby
Rob Bobby Ross same thing. This ownership people did this,
did the Chargers. They just don't move like that on coaches.
So that's why I stay. I said, it's still just
feels like desperation and new ownership in Denver. If I'm
a super Bowl winning coach are supposed to be all that.
(01:29:00):
Like people say, Champagne is, do you want to go
play for a new ownership. They're new to this. They're
new to the way the NFL works, so they're new
to the way. That's a disadvantage. I don't think that's
a disadvantage. I think that all right, So I think this.
I think if David Tepper wasn't a new owner, Matt
Rule probably doesn't get an extra year. Okay, Like you know,
there's there's some level of we just bought this team.
(01:29:21):
We're doing I're gonna pay you all this money. At
what point we're throwing good money after bad? You know
that Matt Rule fire and I thought it was stupid anyway,
though I didn't think that was a good That was
a bad team. Well it was, it was a bad
I don't know if he's I don't know if he's
a bad coach. He had to start running back. Who was,
and I don't want to say faking and history, but
he would be your best player stand back before he
(01:29:43):
got fired. Matt rule heads quored over twenty one points
in two years. That's yeah, but that's just not weapons.
That's that's not a quarterback first three touchdowns. You need
a quarterback three touchdowns. You're right, you need a quarterback
three touchdowns. Well, I mean Detroit went down there and
got ran, but he went to coach three touchdowns. He
in that rule had to scored three offensive touchdowns in
the game since prior to COVID ever existed. Don't they
(01:30:05):
still owe him like thirty eight million dollars? You know what,
he's suing for more of it because there's funny language,
and they said the Panthers are claiming the the language
in the Nebraska contracting and so forth. It's the difference
between five million and one million or two million or whatever.
But ultimately, yes, he's gonna get paid for all of that.
(01:30:27):
But I think if you're Sean Payton, a guy who,
like I just said, was king of New Orleans for
a long that time, even though Mickey Loomis was a
long time GM prior to Shawan Payton and he is
still the GM today, right, But you had but Sean
Payton had a high level of control. If you walk
in there and say like, look, hey, y'all, y'all are
what's new here. The ownership is what's new here. I'm
(01:30:48):
the one that's here, coming in here and establishing this
new situation. You saw what y'all did the last time
when you just hired Nathaniel Hackett. I'll go ahead and
establish the culture the way I want to. And with
a guy like Russell Wilson, I could see Sean Payton.
You know, he's not necessarily Sean Payton is not necessarily
the type of guy who's uh gonna be scared of
a challenge. And I'll say that because he did try
(01:31:10):
to make what would have been an amazing tight end
and Takesom Hill into a quarterback. Yeah, but I was
just stupid. That's Tim Tebow two point oh. And listen,
Sean pay is not a bad coach. I'm not saying
that at all. But there wasn't analogy that I heard
that I did. Really, I I kind of felt it.
He's he's Mike McCarthy. Okay, he's got a Super Bowl
championship with the Hall of Fame quarterback and there were
(01:31:31):
a lot. There were. There were about three, seven and
nine years. And let's not forget bounty gated. We're gonna
bring up other stuff. But if we're gonna bring up
other stuff about other coaches or other players and stuff,
that's just make sure we tell the whole story and listen.
I'm not big on bounty gate and the flag. I'm not.
I've never been that guy. I think it's all kind
(01:31:53):
of stupid. I think on defense, there are a lot
of guys in the NFL that try to hit guys
and hurt guys. I don't think that that's nothing new.
It was kind at the time it was coming place exactly.
So that's why to me, it's like, come on, dude,
the air and the football. Come on, bro, if I'm beating.
If I beat you thirty four, I think the scoring
that game was forty one to three. Or if I
(01:32:13):
beat you forty one to three, it don't matter what
the damn ball is. I can roll up some tube
socks and wrap duct tape around it like we used
to do as kids, and get on our knees and
play football in the living room. I could play with
that if I'm gonna beat you forty one to three,
the football ain't got nothing to do with that at all.
So I'm not that guy. But I just thought that
(01:32:33):
the lore of him was a little overdriven. And now
I'm thinking he's being overpaid. And we'll see. In the
last point. You still gotta deal with Big Red. You
still gotta deal with my homie. And now a lot
of people think Kellen Moore is gonna be a good
offensive coordinator for the Charges. Charges were just really banged
up and hurt that a lot of key positions this year.
You still gotta deal with them. So I don't know
(01:32:54):
if you could just come in and just automatically. And
this ain't the a f C South. This is the
a f C West where a lot of people thought
they're getting three teams into the playoffs this year. So
I mean, good luck with it, man, We'll we'll see
what's up. But I'm with you, I'm not with it.
I think they I think they all panic, and I
think it was a desperation move on both parties. And
I thought Sean, I don't know why Sean Payton will
(01:33:14):
feel desperate. I don't know if he's paid attention to
the last I don't know five minutes. Stop it. The
last thirty NFL head coaching cycles have had like at
least seven different openings, and Sean Payton thought he had
to get this one, and Buddy, let me tell you something,
there will be seven more at minimum this time. Now,
then why not sitting? So then why not go sit
back on pre really said couch in this wait for
(01:33:36):
next year for a better job, because I can get
a honey million right now over the next five years.
Right he would have got that next year, and then
I get fired and get it again. I'll tell you
that's my dream job. I know you want to be
my dream fired. Fired. I think that's funny. It's a
fired NFL. It's the best job you can have. It's
the best job you can have. Bro, there's a fired
(01:33:57):
NFL coach by far the best job you got. David.
You know he's sitting, you know, sitting not too mad
about the money, David Culley right now, you know, there's
not too mad about the money. Love Smith, you know who,
who knows? Maybe this time next year off the way
that they're rocking, the Miko Ryans might not be about
the talk man to that name. Why aren't we hearing
about love you Smith? Why is he just taking up
You think he's just gonna take a break this year's
(01:34:18):
I mean, did he even interview? Didn't even get interview
for any coordinator jobs? Are head coaching positions. We'll talk
about that coming up next Martin and VJ, Fox Sports Radio.
Martin and VJ coming to l from the Tirack dot
com studios. We just was talking about Sean Payton, new
Broncos head coach, the Miko's Ryan's new Houston Texas head coach.
Not new to Houston, though, VJ former Houston Texas defensive
(01:34:43):
was the middle linebacker. He was a former He's a
hunt over there. He was. He's a big time guy.
Di Miko Ryans was a major player for them, playing
behind J. J. Watt and then obviously j J. Watt
was one of the first people to congratulate the Miko
Ryan's on getting the Texans job, a job in which VJ.
You have to ask, and I normally don't. I don't
(01:35:03):
really don't subscribe to this, but I will for like
the next ten seconds, So just bear with me. You know,
the whole concept of inviting people to the picnic right
So I don't really don't subscribe to that either, know
the idea of the picnic, but just for the sake
of where we're at right now, I couldn't look at
it like this. The Houston Texans fired David Culley after
a year, fired love You Smith after a year in
(01:35:27):
consecutive years, both minority coaches. That's the point. Or the
Houston Texas Cabramuir cannell off off an inter him tag,
made him the head coach, and now have hired their
third consecutive black head coach. About perspective, Demiko Ryans is
a six year deal, I would be I'll put it
(01:35:49):
like this, be very very surprised if if he won
one in fifthek Ago one in sixteen this year, I'd
be shocked he was one and done as the head
coach of the Texans. We're just a little backdrop one.
Demiko Ryans is he you know, he played there and
started there. His wife is from there. He met his
wife when he was playing there and they got married,
family and children. It's there. It's his home, you know
what I'm saying. Normally, when you come from college or
(01:36:10):
you come from a different time, when you get to
the pros, sometimes that place becomes your home because you're there.
You know where to drive, you know what streets to
go down, you know what the traffic, you know where
to go get the best sale. Would you know where
to take your dry cleaning? Like it's home. So I
see why he went back for that reason, and I'm
pulling for him now. I will be pulling hard for
the Texas just like I did this year anytime they're
(01:36:31):
not playing the Dolphins. I was pulling for him because
they had Lovely Smith had a black head coach, and
I like to see love you Smith be successful. Hey
him when he went to Illinois got trashed into Big ten,
But hey, the guy got a head coaching job. He's
able to bounce around. He's somebody like him gonna keep
giving him a job. But I would be surprised if
this makes it even two year three. I will put
the over under on two. So you're telling me he's
(01:36:53):
either gonna be fired after one year or he makes
it through the first two seasons. But it's gonna start
at where who are they take making at number two? Correct? Overall?
Who are they taking at number two? Overall? Who are
you taking who is the quarterback? I know everybody loved
the guy that's there. Uh I forget the gentleman's name,
then that shows you how good he is. But I
(01:37:13):
know a lot of people were kind of sold in
on him this year, David. I think the cell was
if you looked at some of the rookie quarterback number,
Davis Mills was up there. But I don't know if
anybody was the quarterback of the future. I know I
heard people saying, no, they can get by. They can
know David Mills is the guy there, and he's not,
(01:37:34):
and he's not, So it's gonna come down to who
are you taking number two? Overall, I think the defense
is good. They were in a lot of games this year.
They were able to score some points. You got some weapons,
and it needs a major, major, major culture change. Not
to mention they're still reeling off of the Deshaun Watson stuff.
That stuff is still lingering over that, over that franchise.
(01:37:55):
Not only the Shawn had to cut some checks, that
franchise had to cut some checks to those ladies. So
that's still He's got to go in here and do
just a just like a masterful job at turning this around. Now,
I could be the synic and go, oh yeah, great,
they hired a black coach. You give him the worst,
you know, you give him the worst scenario in the NFL.
(01:38:17):
I know, you know, And you could say that, but
it's still a black health coach getting an opportunity that
we want our guys to get. Much like when the
Astros went through their stuff and I made a joke
about it on stage at a comedy club, where it's like, yeah,
you guys got caught cheating, So to fix it, you're
gonna bring in You're gonna bring in a dusty Bay.
You can bring the brother in to try to clean
(01:38:37):
all this up. And what did he do? He went
and won the World Series. So and I'm not saying
to me, go right, he's not gonna go in a
super Bowl no time soon. But I'm pulling for man.
I just I just if somebody asked me, VJ, do
you think he could turn it around? No, because the
front office is that you know what show, and there's
just too the only a coach can only do so much.
So I put the over under on two. I'm hoping
(01:39:00):
at him right and the least gets two year three,
I think, hell, if you get fired after three years,
five after two years, that's one more years at home.
You want to be a favorite, You want to be
here fired. Uh, In terms of being able to turn
it around, I mean ultimately, I don't have any idea
whether I was gonna be able to turn around or not,
you know, because you know who else doesn't the NFL
(01:39:23):
look at the turnover all these cred coaches year after
year after year after year, and then think about also
the fact that guys like Belichick, Tomlin, Hardball, John Uh,
they're just Pete Carroll, their static. Yeah, their static, Right,
They're not going anywhere Sean Payton before he retired this season, right, statics?
So so up the up the thirty two availabilities only
(01:39:46):
you know, five of them are locked in regardless, five
of them are locked in regardless, and then like ten
of them are going to be open, like this season
ten were open. So the idea, like the NFL has
no idea what makes a good head coach? Otherwise they'd
have more of them, right are they didn't have more? Uh,
just more tenured guys like they wouldn't be doing this
(01:40:07):
year and year out. So whyther than I He's gonna
be successful, and I don't know, I think it's probably
the best way to try to, like you said, wash
a little uh some of the uh, the stink the
stuffs off the Texans that has been there since pretty
much going forward held off with first de Shaun Watson
with the trade demand and then all the legalities that
came out of that scenarios after after the fact. Why
(01:40:30):
do you get a hometown guy in Damiko Ryan's, who's
you know, a fan favorite prior like that? The juston
Texas fans know who Dimiko Ryan's is. That's the show.
Why do you think to turnover though? That's that's great.
You just bring that point and I it's one of
those stats are one of those situations that you know it,
but when someone brings it up and actually puts it
in your face, it does make you go, hold up, man,
(01:40:51):
damn wow, you're right, That's what I'm saying. If you
really you know, there's five stable quotes, but that that
leaves twenty that dude, that leaves twenty five plus. That
leads a lot of the teams where you just don't
know what the coaching whether they're gonna fire a guy
or not, Like so like this, alright, five or static Okay,
(01:41:13):
like five are just not changing beltis not getting fired
to John Harball, so on and so forth. Alright, then
out of the seven to ten their first year guys,
so they gotta be a disaster to get fired in
their first year unless you coach for Houston. Well I
mean right right, unless you coach. But in general, you
gotta do something pretty pretty pretty egregious to not get high,
(01:41:34):
to not to not honor your second year your contract,
your third year in your contract. So that's why I
disagree with this on pain point. If he's desperate for
a job, just wait three hundred sixty five days later,
there will be five more minimum wide open. Because I
just think there'll be better job. That's why I thought
it was a desperation move for him, because, like you said,
I go back and sit on the couch and just
(01:41:55):
talk for another year. Show up on Sundays kind of
one night. They want me there in the suit to
stand next to as you said, Howie and Jimmy Johnson
and Terry Bradshaw, stand next to those guys and save
my line and do my thing and talk about the players.
And then next year, trust me, one of these other
better jobs, better franchises will be available for. In fact,
now that I'm sitting here really thinking about it, if
(01:42:16):
Sean Payton took this Denver job out of some feeling
that I have to get a job right now, I'm
gonna call him flat out dumb. Because John Gruden was
the the the premier okay, from from month Night Football Bana,
he was the premier head coaching candidate for every availability,
do that impression again, No, for every availability going forward,
(01:42:40):
for every single like almost every single job opportunity. Un
told Mark Davis had to come over there and Wood
was a ten for ten or something like that, ten year,
ten million dollars, honey million dollars, so ten million dollars
a year, like you know, that's you know, Sean Paige,
you probably could have held out guy a little bit more.
But I just think there's better jobs, like like Frances
right here in l A. Let's let's jump over like
to the Rams. I know their guy said. McVeigh says,
(01:43:03):
I'm staying, but it just could be for one more year.
There's that job the Jets were toying with. Maybe hey,
Slom may not be the guy even in Buffalo being
at the way they've looked, You've got people really thinking, Hey,
is Sean McDermott the guy I'm looking at those three
jobs I just named right there. I think those three
jobs are way better than uh over the hill quarterback
(01:43:24):
and Denver oh two hundred plus million dollars. I just
think you said one more year. That's why I say
desperation this year, because you said you could have sat
on the sofa again, man and got a better job
next year for the same money. Well, the Los Angeles
Clippers might be in a desperation spot. What was reporting
just earlier today that they are willing to make a
deal for Kyrie Irving and the Nets looking to get
(01:43:45):
off of them as they right now are leading the
Knicks by two and overtime. Steve de Seger will have
everything you need on that game and everything else trying
to get the world of sports, Steve, what's going on?
My friend clips hit at three at the end of
regulation to stay alive. They're midway through overtime, Clippers ahead
by two as Kawhi Leonard has twenty nine points and
Paul George has scored twenty eight. Blazers are leading mid
(01:44:09):
third quarter eighty to sixty six at Chicago. Last night,
Portland was down twenty early and still beat Washington. Tonight,
Brooklyn was down twenty in the third quarter and beat
Washington one one twenty three. Cam Thomas forty four points
for the Nets off the bench. Kyrie Irving was out
with a sore calf after he just asked to be traded.
Phoenix a winner at Detroit one. Pistons record now fourteen
(01:44:32):
and forty and New Orleans ended a ten game losing
streak beating the Lakers one thirty one one twenty six.
Lebron James did score twenty seven points. He needs thirty
six more to pass Kareem on the all time list
for number one. The heat leading third quarter at Milwaukee
seventies six seventy five. Bucks have a six game winning
streak on the line. The National TV Game has well.
(01:44:53):
Golden State at twenty six and twenty six, hosting a
Dallas team without All star Luca don sits due to
a brew Ste'll don sitch you out Tonight's He'll be
out Monday as well, and late first half Warriors lead
sixty five to fifty one. Atlanta's Trey Young out tonight
due to illness. They're underway down thirty thirty after the
first quarter at Denver. The NHL All Star Game was
(01:45:16):
in Florida, won by the Atlantic Division and Florida's own
Matthew Kitchuck was game m v P. The Dallas Cowboys
promoted Brian Schotteneibert offensive coordinator. He was a consultant there
last year. The forty Niners star tackle Trent Williams does
say he will play again next season and the year after,
despite recent comments. He's a ten time Pro Bowler. By
(01:45:36):
the way, he just was fined about thirteen thousand dollars
as a result of the throwing the opponent to the
ground last game. Pro Bowl Flag football games Sunday, make
your plans from Las Vegas. College basketball Indiana up set
number one produced Sevour Number two Tennessee was a forty
six forty three winner over Auburn. Virginia Tech upset number six. Virginia.
(01:45:58):
Texas came back to win at numbers having Kansas State,
Iowa State rip number eight Kansas and Oklahoma State beat
number fifteen per Due Duke defeated North Carolina tonight sixty
three fifty seven, and NASCAR Open Sunday night on Fox
TV with the Clash at the l A colise in
back to you. Hey, Steve, what are your Pro Bowl plans? Huh?
(01:46:19):
DVR and save it of course? Oh yeah, I know
you can't be interrupted with commercial breaks. Was something like
that is a current, right? You gotta watch that one
string through like a movie. I looked a day or
two ago. Upper level tickets were about thirty five bucks,
including fees with flag football in the upper level. Anytime
you get an opportunity to watch Tyler Huntley play flag football,
(01:46:41):
you gotta take all, right, whatever? Need we say more? Yeah,
Steve Cook, question, are you a Nascar guy? I have
become a Nascar watcher since I started working for Fox. Okay, yeah,
I got Yeah. I got put on when I was
a kid, My uncle William put me on. So what
I'm asking, are you guys interested in the Clash at
the Yeah? I wish the track was bigger, but Colosseum
is not bigger, so they really have to. I mean
(01:47:03):
there's not even a straightaway. Essentially, it's it's so short
over the football field. It reminds me of the track
in Richmond. I grew up in Virginia. Seeing the track
in Richmond, so it reminds me of that track. Are real,
It's it's the definition of short track. It's the shortest
of short tracks. I've read that, you know, the regular
stops in a few weeks out in Fontana in southern California.
I've read that they're shortening up that track and with
(01:47:23):
all the reconstruction, maybe there won't be a race that
year in Fontana. So maybe the Colosseum folks will start bidding. Absolutely,
that would be wild, because I went to the one
last year and that thing looks about four dreds long.
You know, it looks like a regular race. It looks
like the Olympics will look in a few years, and
(01:47:43):
exactly that's that's what it looks like. It looks like
you about the line up. A guys shoot a gun
and they're gonna sprint. You know, it's deadly lining up
all these cars to go ahead. Question, we're getting Olympics
also here in l A. Aren't we doesn't North America?
Isn't North America? Canada, Mexico? Don't we get the next
World Cup? If I'm not, If I'm not mistaken, that
is correct. With most of the games in the US,
including at the Ram Stadium, which has just toasted the
(01:48:03):
College Championship and the Super Bowl the year before. Yeah,
so far is beautiful and I'll be there in August
to see my Tallica. I am so damn excited, you
know what. So, how was it the song stand? Crokey
paid five billion dollars for that thing and it's still
he probably made money back. It made it, sorry, especially
when you had last year Super Bowl there and this
(01:48:26):
year's super Bowl being Glendale, Arizona, neighborhood of Phoenix, the
Chiefs and the Eagles. I'll be there at Radio role
be popping in with the couple on Tuesday at six
thirties Eastern times, controlling and rolling from Radio Roll. I
have it in person. But the first time I seen
Chris Bruce Hard like three years, really, you know what.
I haven't seen Chris and about three years myselfie. Once
he went back to Jerorsy, once he went back to
(01:48:47):
the East coast, man, that was that was it? That
was a rap. Yeah you over there and went the
first things first to said West coast. Who's got time
for that? Alright? But the super Bowl is here. Rob
Parker would be there. Chris Bruce be there. The thousands
and millions of other people will be there, to people
who I'm the most interested in being there, Jalen heard
to Patrick Mahomes. Of course, Man, so this is you
(01:49:07):
know and with you know, like preview. I I'm excited
for this game. I'm excited to watch these two quarterbacks
go ad. I'm excited with the storyline. Uh. I won't
even go back to the ANFC championship game and how
that ended. And that's a week ago. So if it
ain't been said yet, then you just missed out on it.
But I'm hyped for this man, and I think there's
gonna be some key players in the same question I
asked you guys last week about hey, when when we
(01:49:29):
when we wake up on Monday, who is the guy
we're gonna be like, Man, god, it's it's a good
thing they had that guy, like the guy no one's
talking about. Bow hit the name right on the head
with the Eagles pass rusher last week. He nailed that one,
and we all started texting each other during the game.
I'm like, well, yeah, nice, nice call, because if I
hadn't been pretty, he not purty out of the game
(01:49:50):
with his with his his rubber band elbow. If I
hadn't been so upset about just the prospect of taking
money and lighting it on fire like I did when
I bet on the four not in that game, then
I would have texted Billy immediately and been like, wait,
great call, Hassan Reddick. Instead we have to wait to
laughter the game. Yeah no so, but I'm just thank
you both for not making us look like idiots out
here because you're like, wait a minute, really good guys.
(01:50:12):
You guys to talk about it well, not only that
the way you described in the way you would comparing
him to Michael Parsons, which was I mean, honestly was
dead on. He did. And remember the week before with
San Francisco and Dallas, what was my taking the game?
I said, if you're if you're the next Lawrence Taylor,
I need you to wreck this because Lawrence Taylor would
wreck this game, trust me on that. And Hassan Reddick
(01:50:35):
wrecked the game bo He knocked the quarterback out and
it was over from there. So I got great call.
But that's what I'm looking forward to. The Eagles and
the She's super Who's the guy, Who's the guy that
we go? Man? Look at that he he he made
the plays man, and that's the reason why they wanted.
I'll say my prediction for next week already had my prediction.
I don't need to think about it. I've already done
(01:50:57):
notes on the game. I'm ready to rock and roll.
But I'll save all that for next week for you guys.
Thanks anyway, you know what, you know what? I like
that look. I like that look America. That look America like,
wait a minute, what's he gonna say? That's right? No,
(01:51:19):
but it is. My calculus on this Super Bowl matchup
ends up very much similar to the calculus in the
NFC Championship game. I thought the Bengals had the better
team than the Chiefs what they did. I think the
Eagles had the better team than the Chiefs, as they do.
I don't know how much ultimately is gonna matter, because
you know what, it sure didn't matter Nancy Championship Game.
As I'm sitting there watching Marcus Kemp, do you they
(01:51:41):
know who Marcus Kemp is? I would Marcus Kemp prior
to last week, had more, I'm sorry, six times more
the amount of tackles in his career than he had receptions.
He had four receptions total. He's a special teams guy.
And you know what he did. He took every snap
(01:52:01):
on the last three drives in the fourth quarter for
Kansas City because Juju was hurt, Tony was hurt, Hardman
was hurt, and you got Sky Moore who was the
first round pick, and Marcus Kemp should have never been
though just so should have never been a first round pick.
But I get it. Whatever, that's beside the point. The
point is Patrick Mahomes is out there doing all types
(01:52:24):
of you know what. You'll know this everybody under thirty,
I apologize. He's doing mcgever like things out here with
uh with with I mean taking a stick and some
tape and some glue and making atomic bomb and getting
out of the and and blasting himself out of the
dungeon that he was locked in and left for dead
(01:52:46):
while the bad guys load the money into the van,
and right when they're pulling off, here comes my guy
routing a cave, all dirty and coughing up the dirt
and stuff and pulls the gun and stops him in
foils to cry and saves that that. You know, they're
reverbing that show, which is bad, but they are there,
there's a new mcgiver that previous that premier is like
I think after the Super was a new mcgiver show.
(01:53:08):
So I was about to say thet about time for that?
There were doing it, So there about time for that,
you know, because it's it's And imagine with the things
that your boy would have been able to do with
like a phone. Did you just go a little soprano there?
Like you know, I imagine your last week. I go
(01:53:32):
into the room. My son is sleeping in the room
right now. I just watched four episodes of The Sopranos.
I go in there, he's does off. I pick him up.
I kissed him on both sides of his cheek. Dude,
I did. And I look at him and she's laying
in the bed. She stared up, and I go, ask
my son right here, man, her freaking loved this kid.
You know what, anybody lay a hand on him, one
(01:53:53):
ear on his head, you're gonna pay for it. Look,
just watch for just watch it next time your kid
throws a piece of broccoli across the room and you're
playing out. Tell if you're married, you'll appreciate good produce.
You know what that line is? So ill because it's true.
It's so true when you when you you appreciate good
produce when you're married. Because guy's just buy anything. We
don't care. Women they squeeze, they go through the leaves
(01:54:16):
of the lettuce. They don't just buy. They don't just grab,
you know, head and lettuce and put it in the car.
They really check it for you. Coming up next, more
on the Super Bowl, Martin and VJ, Fox Sports Radio.
Martin and VJ coming to your live from the Tirack
dot Com studios. And now it's time for the progressive
player of the day. Up topping room. Beyond the ark,
driving on brown, pull up free the line, the prints
(01:54:41):
on the mid range. There you go, that's brandon Ingram
scoring there. That's w r NO Pelicans Radio Network FM.
That's actually a radio station I used to listen to
VJ back in the day and my home Louisiana. You know,
brandon Ingram averages or at least in his last five games,
he's had twenty two points again cooking him. What did
(01:55:03):
he have tonight? Apparently he scores more against the Lakers
than any team. Threst single. He had a threst single tonight.
My friend, listen man, that was just one of those
guys that they should have never. They should have never,
you know, they should have never moved, but they did
and it is what it is. But he gives them
the business. The Progressive Play today is brought to you

of Brandon Ingram as a Laker, which my number one
memory when when Chris Paul may or may not have
spitting Rondo's face, Nobody, including Rondo and Quish Paul, wanted
(01:55:50):
more smoked that night than Brandon ingramd. But brandon Ingram
looks like a brother that'd be wanting some smoke if
I can't really quick to speaking of smoke. Weird story
in sports this week, Martin, did you hear about Did
you guys hear about the j V coach who suited
up to play in the game twenty two years old
to play with other thirteen year olds, Miss r Licia Boykins.
(01:56:13):
And this is my home state, so this at home
This is in Virginia, church Land versus a school from
Suffolk church Lands in Portsmith. Twenty two year old are
Alicia Boykins played the game on January twenty one against
other thirteen year olds. How in the hell does this happen?
First of all, this is one of the wildest sports
(01:56:35):
stories I've ever seen and heard, at least in the
last ten years. How did the parents And I was
having this discussion with somebody this morning. You know, dann
Well wanted the pair of ship that came down out
of the bleachers. But while they're sitting on the bench
getting ready to go on the game, and they see
the coach take off the warmups like this, like come on,
people stopping And then if you go look at the
videos online, she's bawling, whooping. She at one point she
(01:56:59):
blocks a girls shot and yells in her face and
stairs her down. I'm hoping she was on some type
of medication. I'm hoping she was not. I feel confident
that she was trying to help it. She was impersonating
another player on the team. Yeah exactly, I should say
another player. Yeah, there's the coach. She was impersonating a
(01:57:21):
player or the team put a jersey on put their
uniform one and everything, which I mean, Mark, how crazy
is this though? Bro, It's funny, but not funny, right,
it's it's just bizarre. Yeah, but honestly it's bizarre to me,
Like it's it's bizarre how this can occur in a
game in which there's there's people who are officiating it,
like there's there obstensively there are people in charge here. Yes,
(01:57:44):
that's that's the thing that is getting me. It's not
that this ain't at the gym, ain't at the at
the park, and not like that. No, this is this
is this is coaches, administration, teachers, the players, parents, everybody
there knows. There's not a twenty two year old woman
I know that looks like she can dress up and
(01:58:05):
play with thirteen year old girls. Dude, the comedian and
me laughed when I saw this because I said, this
is where we are in Like you kidding me? You
want to win that bad, you want to go back
and live your dreams that bad that you would do this.
This is almost like the Sycamore the Sycamore Football Academy.
Remember that team last Bishop Sycamore where they were it
(01:58:26):
was told you had twenty one and twenty year old
guys on the team playing high school kids. And the
coach knows this. Everyone affiliate we went, the program or
the system he's running knows this. I dode I honestly
it was funny, but not funny, but really stressed some
weird things and women's basketball recently. Obviously I was on
the high school level. Duke in Florida State apparently played
(01:58:48):
the first half of the men's ball. Absolutely, it's just
like what are we doing? And uh? And Clara Lawston,
duke coach, said that players were complaining about the ball.
Duke shot seven for thirty four and his quarter I
mean in the first half and in Florida State at
that point ten for thirty so they were from the
floor in the first half and then obviously those numbers
(01:59:09):
jumped up in the second half. But I mean, what's
going on? I don't know, man. I watched Carol Larson,
she played for West Springfield High School guys. I watched
her in high school, so I've always been a fan
and a support of her. I always thought she did
a great job commentating the games over on the mother Ship,
and then also the way she would do it with
the women's tournament. But yeah, that was that was strange
right there too. Come on, guys, we know the balls
are different. Let's go one more week to the supers.
(01:59:32):
God bless everybody, Martin and b J. Fox Sports Radio.
I was, let say, Fox Sports Football Saturday,
