Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. I love the dream
once again here on the eve of a very big
game tomorrow. Yeah, the Eagles Chiefs are getting ready. We
are Fox Sports read Zone Radio and we're broadcasting live
from the Chirac dot Com studios. Tirac dot Com. We're

(00:21):
gonna help get you there, and I'm at selection FATS
free Shipping, Free Road has her protection of her ten
thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot com the way tire buying
should be now. The National Football Conference champion Atlanta FALCONm

(00:48):
at right tackle from San Diego State. That a from
salam That was, by the way, he was the only
falcon introduced before that Super Bowl. They just reserved the
entire pregame introduction to the prize rookie youngest starter and

(01:09):
Super Bowl history, you know, started all nineteen games, only
the fourth NFL rookie to ever do that, all rookie teams,
Pro Bowl Alternate, the whole nine yard the works man. Yeah,
and I was part of my career off like that.
It's sort of like um, when Orson Welles directed Citizen

(01:30):
came for his debut. You know, Bud, good luck. All right,
here we are it is the day before the big game,
the Super Bowl, and of course the Eagles and Chiefs
are all ready to roll for tomorrow. Both of us
were in Arizona. I was there all week. As a
matter of fact, I want to start with you though,
find out about you and now do you play in

(01:51):
a golf tournament? You mentioned your buddy Kyle Turley, a
brother from the state. I played in the Gridiron Greats
UH Cannabis Friendly Golf Tournament was the first annual UM
and it's something that Kyle Turley, his partner Jim McMahon,
Mike Ditka, they have come together and really spearheaded the

(02:15):
initiative of using cannabis and CBD oils to treat the pain,
especially for former athletes chronic pain that we have opposed
to the opioids that are are prescribed for us. UM. Well, yeah,
because it can save your life. And Kyle a testament,
he'll he'll testify to this. UM. It saved his life.

(02:36):
I mean, he it was at a at a point
there And the only reason I feel comfortable sharing this
because he shared this on you know, national television, and
he's very outspoken about he was in a very dark place. UM.
He was having vertigo, he was having like seizures, chronic headaches,
uh and and he was being prescribed all of the

(03:00):
opioids to try to subdue some of the pain. But
it was making a situation worse because then you get
hooked on that and now you you know, you're not focused,
you're not being who you're supposed to be. And he
found his train of of of of marijuana and it literally,
not figuratively, literally saved his life. We were I think

(03:25):
we were one under I was gonna forceome uh and
we we you know, it was great man. I had
a I had a great, great time uh fellowshipping, and
I was saying, it's one of the best golf tournaments
I had been in because you had guys who played
in different errors, right, and so I had an opportunity

(03:47):
to play with guys who you know, played in the
sixties and seventies, and then guys who came in and
uh the eighties or the nineties, and then you know
myself at the end of the nineties two thousands, and
we all just shared stories and fellowship and it's it's
not like any other place where you can have those
type of of conversations and it was wonderful. Man, I

(04:08):
had a great time. Well, that's great. I had a
good time as well. Now I was well. I was
on Radio Row on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, a little bit
different from me because I wasn't broadcasting a show, which
meant I didn't get credentialed. I had to go pick
up these one day passes, and each day I went
down to pick up my passes, there were more and

(04:29):
more people on line. So Tuesday it was pretty quiet,
Wednesday got busy, Thursday got crazy. But you know how
it is for me, having covered as many Super Bowls
as I have over the last thirty plus years, it's
a chance to reminisce and run into some friends. I
saw my buddy Chris Russo on Tuesday. We're reminiscing about
the first ever Radio Row when he and FRANCESSA were

(04:50):
set up put up a table next to him. So
it was good to see Chris out there. And you know, um,
of course I saw everybody in our Fox Sports family.
They all send their best. Steve from Yes, that was
a lot of peoples us. I got lee about this,
Rob Parker, Jeff Shorts out there and just dropping everything.

(05:11):
So um anyway, we had. We had a good time
out there. One guy that I did have a chance
to catch up with that I have a long history
with was Lee Steinberg, now lea course representing Patrick Mahomes.
How far back do I go back with Lee? Let's
put it this away. My sons are twenty six and
twenty four, and when both of them were born, Lee

(05:32):
sent me a bottle of champagne with a note that said,
just in case they're a future NFL quarterback, remember who
was there first. So I, when I told him how
all my boys were, did tell him that a lot
of years have passed. But one of the things I
asked him was how it's different now representing someone like

(05:53):
Patrick Mahomes as it was back in the day when
he's representing the Troy Aikman's the Stevens. I mean, he
was the quarterback agent back in the day. And he says,
you know what, Obviously the money has changed dramatically. But
one thing that really sparked interest in me was just
how Mahomes is handling his celebrity. I mean, the fact

(06:16):
is Mahomes obviously he's making a lot of money, is
getting paid a lot of money by the Chiefs and
making a lot of money and endorsements, but he's not
grabbing everything, just not who he is. And Steinberg talked
about his family and you know, just just the kind
of person that Mahomes is. Yes, he's gonna take advantage
of his celebrity, but he's not gonna abuse it. And

(06:36):
so it reminded us again about a young guy who's
had an unbelievable start to his career. Do you think
about it, five years as a starting quarterback, he's been
in the conference championship game all five years, He's won
three of those and the only two he lost he
lost in overtime. So his success through his first five
years as a starting quarterback really is unmatched. You know,

(06:59):
Tom Brady one three super Bowls in his first four years. Yeah,
but they weren't the stars. The Homes is Now he's
already won two m v P Awards because he won
the m v P again deservedly so, and he's got
the numbers and everything else, which is really one of
the big stories that we're gonna get to. We start
breaking down Super Bowl fifty seven, this matchup between the

(07:22):
Eagles and the Chiefs is you know, where this game
puts Patrick Mahomes. And they have the ANIFL Honors the
other night, and he won the m v P no
surprise there, so he has two m v P awards.
He's one on one in Super Bowls. And when I

(07:42):
look at this matchup and talking to a lot of people,
obviously a lot of people are leaning to the Eagles.
But when I look at this matchup on paper, the
thing that stands out to me is this, The Eagles
are basically better at every position with three exceptions, quarterback,

(08:03):
tight end, and probably coach based on experience. So as
I break down this game and I look at that
great offensive line the Eagles, and you know Brown and
Smith and wide receiver and Sanders are running back, and
the great defense and read again, I mean the Eagles
are absolutely loaded and they are the better team. But

(08:27):
when you're Patrick Mahomes and you want to put yourself
in that conversation not just as the best quarterback of
your era, but the greatest of all time, him winning
this game tomorrow would give his argument, with a long

(08:47):
way to go still a major boost. So that's that's
why I keep trying to formulate on my head. And
of course we'll make our Super Bowl picks a little
bit later on. But I'm thinking to myself, can I
envision Mahomes being so good in this game tomorrow that
he overcomes all the other deficiencies in terms of matchups

(09:09):
against the Eagles. Um. The only people standing in the
way of that are the historic for uh from four
four the Philadelphia Eagles. I think they have four guys
who have double digit sacks. UM. I think that's the
first time any team ever has done that. So I
think those guys will have something to say about that. Now,

(09:32):
Patrick Mahomes can be out of this world. But if
he doesn't have the time to get the ball down
the field and everything is a checkdown, then it's going
to be a long day for And I'll tell you this,
We're waiting for him to have this super breakout, fantastic
super Bowl that we really haven't seen from him. And

(09:52):
so UM, I'm interested to see if the Philadelphia Eagles
can still a few possessions. And what I mean by
that is, on average, each team gets about three possessions
per quarter. Now, if you go possession for psion for

(10:16):
possession with Patrick Mahomes, that doesn't bold well for you.
But if you can still two meaning a turnover are
you can limit them to two possessions in a quarter
by running the ball right clock time of possession. The

(10:41):
Eagles are running the ball at a hundred and forty
seven yards per game during the regular season, had bumped
up to two eight yards in the playoffs. That is
the formula. If you can take away two possessions from
the Kansas City Chiefs, I think the philadelph Eagles have
an opportunity to win this game. I remember two years

(11:05):
ago when the Chiefs played the Buccaneers, and remember the
Chiefs had injuries on their offensive line going into that Yeah,
and everybody thought, oh, it doesn't matter because Patrick Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes. That was exactly it. That was the argument
I got from another every time I brought it up. Wait, whoa, whoa,
they're out without two starters there, two tackles are out. Yeah,
but it's Mahomes. You see, for any other quarterback it

(11:27):
wouldn't it would matter. But for a guy like Mahomes
and his ability to improvise and and move around, it's
not gonna make it. He was running for his life
in that game. He never even had a chance to
get set up and we saw a blowout. So it
doesn't work without offensive line. You have to have offensive
line all right. On the other side, I'm gonna give

(11:48):
you a number that is going to amplify the challenge
facing Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. We got a lot
to do today. We're gonna give you all the insight
we can. We're gonna get you ready for the big game.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio Steve Harmony from Salon.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio and we are
live from the tire IRAQ dot com studios. We are

(12:12):
talking super Bowl. Now. Before I get to a key
stat in this game, what is your super Bowl set
up for tomorrow? From what is the salam family have plant? Yeah?
You know, only there's only one person on the planet
that is riveted to this game between the San Diego

(12:34):
State Aztecs and the U n O V Running ReBs. Yes,
Mountain West Basketball. The Aztecs have a comfortable early lead.
Nineteen eleven is comfortable, wouldn't it say? You're never Hey, man,
I don't need that. It's the commercial we get talk
what are we gonna do when to the tournament? You
know there's still a distinct possibility. I hope your Aztecs

(12:58):
and my Bruins would face each other in a second
round game. We will be courtside and in Sacramento. The
game would be in Sacramento. I know the owner of
the arena will be courts I told you I have
never been to Sacramento, California. We're gonna go up to
We're gonna have a ball, yeah, and we I'm gonna
be sitting. We're gonna be sitting right. So are they
gonna mic us up? And we'll like it a little

(13:19):
be broadcasting while we're watching the game. They can just
listen in on. I don't know if we're supposed to
be on air that day, but I won't be there,
so all right, um wow, yeah, my set my set
up tomorrow. Yes, it's just gonna be myself, my boys,
my nephew. We're gonna sit back and we're just gonna

(13:39):
enjoy the game. Now, do you have snacks. We're gonna
get all the get all the comfort food. Yeah, right,
you go wing start with with a nice little early
early breakfast so our food can settle. You know. I'll
get up and make some pancakes and my kids call
it the dead special little pancake, some purky sausage, turkey, bacon,

(14:02):
fresh fruit, uh, fresh squeezed orange juice of course, a
coffee from my wife. Uh. Then we'll sit back and relax, um,
put a little video games as a family, and then uh,
when it's time for the festivities, we'll order some wingstop Uh,
some pizza for the boys, stopped for for us. My

(14:23):
wife doesn't eat me, so she has salmon. So we're
gonna get some nice barbecue salmon for her. Why you're
gonna have quite a spread, then, you see you set
it up. That was gonna be low key. Uh, and
it's a little more elaborate now. Tomorrow, rich Ormburger and
I were doing a five hour pregame show. Five hour
pregame show. Uh. Now I understood that rich originally was

(14:46):
going to be sitting next to me during the show,
but apparently his super Bowl party plans changed. So how's
that gonna work? Sam? For us? Tomorrow we're gonna be
how are we going to do this? I think it'll
be fine. You know, I guess I means more food
for us. I mean we have we have five hours
to occupy tomorrow. We need something to eat here. We're

(15:06):
going to figure that out up. We have a big,
big day tomorrow. I want to get to this number here.
And we were talking about Patrick Mahomes and does he
have in him something we really haven't seen in his
first two Super Bowl appearances. We mentioned the loss of
the Bucks and he was under siege that entire game.
But remember the year before when they beat the forty niners.

(15:27):
He did not play well until the last quarter. In fact,
for three quarters he looked dare I say, worse than
Jimmy Garoppolo. But in the fourth quarter he engineered the
same thing he had done that entire postseason run, and
that was a fourth quarter comeback. Now, this stat just
stands out to me, and sometimes when I look at

(15:48):
these prop bets, I wonder, right. So, the Eagles this
year had the number one past defense in the NFL.
They only gave up a hundred and seventy nine yards
passing per game for seven team games. Think about that,
for seventeen games, they only gave up an average of
less than a hundred and eighty yards passing game. Only

(16:08):
one time did they give up more than two d
fifty yards passing to a quarterback and yet the over
under a Mahomes is to ninety and a half. So
you're you're talking about a guy over under two ninety
and a half going against a team that gave up
on average less than a hundred and eighty yards passing
and only once all year was that shootout game with

(16:30):
Dak Prescott. By the way, Gardner Minshew actually had more
yards passing in that game than Dak Prescott did. But
that's it, um. I think it's a it's the defensive
pressure that they can put on a post. Those things
are tied hand to hand, no doubt. Right, your secondary

(16:50):
and your front four work in tandem. They're work in tandem.
If you can get pressure without takeing assets from the secondary,
then that bolds will for you. Right. That makes quarterbacks
rush throws, go through reads, quickly, hold the ball, sat Like.

(17:13):
All of these things are things that are important and
what they've specialized in doing in Philadelphia. That's why they've
had the success that they've had. You gotta remember, Jalen
Hurts has lost one game this year. One. Yeah, that's it.
And so uh, they're playing with swagger, they're playing with confidence,
and you know, good thing, Patrick Mahomes is healthier than

(17:37):
he was last week, but not a percent. Even the
owner said, but I don't think anybody's no, no, but
I mean a high ankle sprain. It's what he had
is what normally about a six week injury, and now
he's three four weeks into it. He's he's gonna be
better than we saw in the SEC championship game. I'm
actually I ran into his agent, Lee Steinberg, and I

(17:58):
told him, look, I've always been, uh, you know, admired
Mahomes and what there's what's there not to meyer, But
I was never more impressed than what I saw in
that a f C championship game against the Bengals, because
you know, he wasn't ready. I mean, he was still
hopping on one leg for much of that game. And
that last run, of course, the personal foul penalty setting

(18:19):
up the game winning field goal, but the fact that
he just took off no regard. He's got to be
feeling insane pain in that ankle and he just he
went forward and it just again we talk about the
will to win and what separates all these players in
the NFL have talent. You have to have talent to

(18:39):
be playing with the absolute best. But What separates the
absolute upper echalon is just that little extra, that little
extra drive to win the competitiveness, whatever it is, no
matter what the circumstances, And there is no question in
my mind that is how Patrick Mahomes runs. I mean,

(19:01):
this guy wants to go down in the conversation with
the best that has ever played the game. Well, of course,
and I think he's the right now, this early on,
I think he's on the trajectory too compete for the
type of career that Tom Brady has had. When you

(19:22):
look at their first five years, they're similar. Tom Brady
at three super Bowls, right, which was miraculous as a
heck of a head start. You gotta remember there's a
time in there where about for a decade he didn't
have any So if Patrick Mahomes can, and you know,
he's already signed a team friendly deal, right, So he's
already he's already making the type of decisions and movements

(19:46):
that would bode for a long and illustrious career. Um.
So it's there, man, This young man is tremendous. Uh.
It's not easy in the a f C. It's not
easy in his division. So he gets all the accolades
and and and all the props because he is going

(20:09):
up against the best of the best and coming out
on top of that, that Cincinnati UH Chiefs matchup is
gonna be something to behold. Moving forward, Buffalos right there,
like this is this is this is good man. We're
we're we're seeing the next decade play out of dynamic
quarterback play like we did started in in in the

(20:32):
early nineties. Excuse me, in the late nineties with ninety
eight my draft class, when you had the Mannings and
then you had the Breezes, and then you had the
uh at Rogers, and then you had the uh the
Brady's come in and we got to witness the best

(20:52):
quarterback duos ever in the history of the league. In
my opinion, I keep closing my eyes and I'm trying
to imagine because if the Chiefs win this game in
an upset, it's going to be because of Patrick Mahomes.
And if Mahomes has that kind of a game, his

(21:17):
star power, which is already here, goes a whole step further.
It's all coming up to this game. Oh can't wait?
All right? By the way, speaking of the Goat, we're
gonna talk about Tom Brady and the latest with him
on the other side. By the way, we're brought to
you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable.

(21:39):

Bundle and save at Progressive dot com. Let's find out
what is trend name right now? And I would imagine
he has got huge festivities planned out for tomorrow. That
would be of course, Mr Bryan Finley, b fan. How
are you? How are you guys? He from and Steve.
This is going to be a fun show working with
you all, and yeah, sure. All I want is the

(22:00):
Eagles to win. All my family boast them from the
Philly area. So I consider myself an NFL fan free
agent because as he from those, I'm from San Diego
and the Chargers moved on, So I I like to oh,
Amy moved on. I mean there's still the Chargers. Yeah,
I mean I remember years ago still running into Brooklyn

(22:20):
Dodgers fans better that they had left, but they they're
still Dodgers fans. That is true, that is true. It's
out of my control. But what we do know is
that the NBA has a huge game tonight with the
Lakers and the Warriors. Lebron James is not going to
play due to left ankle soreness. Yeah, the King. Here's
something it's interesting though too. I Freman Steve so Russell

(22:44):
Westbrook now the the former teammate of Lebron with the Lakers.
So according to ESPN, so we know that that Westbrook
was was sent to the Jazz. We already know that,
but now ESPN is saying that Westbrook isn't really sure
what he wants to do when it comes to is
he going to join the team after the All Star break,
And it's been told to him by executives inside Utah

(23:07):
that they're not going to prioritize him. They're looking more
to focus on the younger players and that there are
no assurances on playing time or how big of a role.
So there actually could be an opportunity here where they
could negotiate a buyout for Westbrook, where then he could
be free to move to other teams if he wants.
But a really interesting situation. They would welcome him as

(23:30):
a member of the Utah Jazz, but the organization is
not saving space and a lot of time and energy
for him, considering that they've got that youth movement going
on within the the program there in the organization. From
a playing standpoint, the MAVs announced that Luka don chich
is going to play tonight against the Kings after missing
the last four games with the right heel contusion. So

(23:50):
we're gonna see Kyrie, Irving and Dodges together on the
floor on the same team for the first time. The
news around college basketball, there are a few games of
notable status happening right now, including well, number twenty five
San Diego State, that lead has gotten a lot bigger
from against from it's it's thirty to eleven. Okay, I mean,

(24:13):
do you at home. They were up the last game
against Utah State by twenty four three at one point,
and they won by two. So I don't want to
hear it all right, I'm not gonna say anything, but
this game is not a distribut Yeah, So nine minutes

(24:34):
to go. Number twenty San Diego State up thirty to
eleven against u n l V. And that is a
game that could be seen on Fox television and the
game that he from Salam is watching right now, and
Steve is just waiting for Oregon U c l A
later on. That's gonna be a game that is gonna
be a tough game. Number three Alabama tough sit out
in a win on the road against a Wren seventy
seven to sixty nine. Number nine in Kansas victorious against

(24:56):
Oklahoma seventy eight to fifty five. And number five of
Texas throttles West Virginia nine four to sixty while number
ten Market takes care of business against George Town seventy five.
And lastly from in Steve pj toour Waste Management Phoenix
Open third round from the the Phoenix area. Of course
they got the super Bowl there coming up tomorrow, but

(25:18):
we also have golf. And Scottie Scheffler is your leader
right now in the third round, two under through six
and he is twelve under for the tournament, good for
a three shot lead by himself, including who's back three
shots behind Sander Shaffley and Jordan's speeth is four back.
So some notable names, but it's the Scotty Scheffler Show

(25:40):
right now as I send it back to E froms
Loom and Steve Hartman. All right, b Pen, thanks so much.
We'll check in with you a little bit later on
I heard you grown when you heard that Lebron City
not again. Um, I'm gonna detour from all this Super
Bowl talk to talk about the Lakers, because I know
you're such a Lakers fan. By the way, as they

(26:02):
play the Warriors tonight up in San Francisco, D'Angelo Russell
and like Easley, Uh, Jared Vanderbilt, Davon Reid should be
their Mobama. Of course still serving a suspension. So these
new Lakers out there. But did you hear about Lebron's
party after he broke the record on Tuesday? He had

(26:23):
a party, which is great, a little celebratory party. A
couple of things happened. First of all, he did an
interview and this was his quote in the interview, he said,
what I bring to the table as a basketball player,
I feel like I'm the best basketball player that ever
played the game. So he had this restaurant all set
up with friends and family celebrating his uh becoming the

(26:46):
all time leaning score in NBA history. And he brought
in two goats, actual goats, into this high level restaurant
for about fifteen minutes before they were escorted. And then
on Thursday when they played the Bucks. By the way,
a lot of people anticipated that was going to be
the game in which he would break the record ticket

(27:08):
sales on average or hundred dollars a dick at. So
after a night a celebration on Tuesday, he no showed
for that game on Thursday, and now he's no showing again.
So it's a Laker fan. I want to get your
perspective on Lebron breaking the record, all these trades they
made and the reality that this team with twenty six

(27:28):
games to go is six games a low five hundred
um first of all, tremendous feet yes, uh, breaking that
record that stood for almost forty years. The record was
accomplished and before Lebron was even born. Think about that.

(27:51):
Lebron years old and to be able to play with
the type of long jevy, no one at his age
has played at this level. So kudos to that. That
doesn't make you the goat when you look at and
it was it was funny because this was circulating on

(28:12):
social media. When you look at Lebron James accomplishments which
are tremendous, unprecedented, unpressed, I mean, just unbelievable and he's
not done yet. But when you look at him right
when you when you really hold it up, and then

(28:33):
you hold it up against you know, Lebron's twenty years,
and you hold it up against Jordan's fourteen seasons. At
the age of thirty eight, Lebron James has uh six finals, losses, zero,
three peats twenty seasons. He's won four NBA Championships, four

(28:57):
m vps, for finals, mvas um In fourteen seasons at
age thirty eight, Michael Jordan had two three peats, zero
finals losses, um, six championships, six finals, MVPs, five m

(29:20):
vps and I can't even count all the scoring titles. Okay,
so let me counter that with this. In all six
NBA finals and Michael Jordan's played in, the Bulls were
favored in the ten NBA finals the Lebron has played
in only three times. Was his team favored. Two of

(29:42):
the Miami teams all five times, the first one of
the Calves on the four in row of the Calves,
they were the underdog all five times. Two of the
four years with Miami they were favored, two times they
were an underdog, and then they were favored as the
Lakers so he was only favored in three of the
ten finals and atually won four. The only time he
was favored and lost was that first Miami lost to Dallas,

(30:06):
the only time. So Jordan's teams were better than every
team they played against. And we're heavily favored to win
all of those NBA fights, right, So let me ask
you this. Yeah, if you haven't surpassed he has scoring categories,

(30:27):
he has more. Yeah, the all time great. Listen, why
are you ignoring these stats? I'm trying to talk to
you being selective. Well, I'm not being selective. We're talking
about the greatest basketball player to ever play the basketball
Basketbay the basketball player, not the team, the basketball player.

(30:48):
If you individually haven't accomplished more in six more years,
the standards are champions Wait a minute. First of all,
I don't want to hear about championships, because champions a team.
When I used to say this to Kobe, you know,
when he would say, I've won five championships. My answer

(31:08):
to him was, you've been part of five teams. You've
been a key part of that team, and maybe you're
the guy. But a championship is a team accomplishment and
a team sport. It's not an individual honor. When you
say you won a championship, you at least got to
have more m vps then, right, Well, the MVP, the

(31:30):
fact that Lebron hasn't won a single m v P
in the last ten years. You know how the m
v P. Jordan's should have won more m v ps.
Shack won one, right, so we gave he was the
most dominant player in the league when he won one
m v P. But these are the standards. These are
the things that we're talking and scoring titles. I mean again,

(31:51):
some guys shoot more. Lebron is a distributees fourth all
time in the assist list. Michael Jordan is seventh all time. No,
he's not. I'll share the all time on man, what
we're doing, Yeah, what we're talking about it I'm Lebron said,
I feel like I feel like I'm the first basketball
player that ever played the game, and that's why he
brought goods to his own. Kobe would the same thing,

(32:13):
absolutely right. In fact, Kobe went into where he said
Koreem would tell you the same thing. Kobe has an
eighteen year old, said on more than one occasion that
when he retired there would be no argument about who
the greatest player of all time was. That was his mindset.
Not just because we say something and believe it, does

(32:35):
it make it true. No, All he knows that Lebron's resume.
I love his resume. I love that he's a Laker.
I love that he broke the title. By the way,
if you're gonna talk resumes, why not the guy that
one more m vps than anyone else, Kareem abdul Jabal
that Why is he not in the conversation? He should
be just held on scoring record for twenty years. All

(32:58):
I know is all we're doing is talk about Lakers.
By the way, do you think the Lakers are going
to be much better with this new line? I think
they got better. I mean they think they got this.
They have to go sixteen and ten just to get
back to five hundred. I think they got younger, which
is what they needed to do. I think they got
longer on the wing, and I thought I think they
brought in shooters, guys who can really shoot the basketball.

(33:21):
All three of those things they needed desperately. They were
too old, they couldn't shoot, and they needed longer defensive wings.
I don't like giving up Thomas Bryant. I love Thomas Bryant,
I love what Thomas Bryant did and in ads absence,
but you gotta try to put a team together that

(33:42):
works well with your key pieces. Now that Anthony Davis
can grow up and grow a pair, then we got
some action going. Well. Hopefully the Deangel Russell they acquired
is a far different Deangel Russell than we saw. Well,
of course he's been he's been steady in Minnesota for
the last All right, okay, so we'll put that that
go to side for a second. Alright, that goat conversation. Now,

(34:05):
as far as the NFL is concerned, there is the goat,
right is there a question with Tom Brady? Well, that's right.
I ran into Rob Parker. He still thinks that the
Brady doesn't even belong in the Hall of Fame, much
less a conversation of goat because he was a cheater
his entire career. You can't take what Rob Parkers this
series half to know. You know he's doing stand up

(34:25):
these days. Yeah, he's doing some good. Did I do that?
I know? I love Rob. But anyway, on the other side,
we're gonna talk about the latest big announcement when it
comes to Tom Brady and what it actually means. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Hey, what's up everybody.
It's me three time pro bowler La Warrington and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called Up

(34:49):
on Game? What is up on Game? You ask? Along
with my fellow pro bowler t J. Hushman, Zada and
Super Bowl champion. That's right, Plexico Burds. You can all
the name a show with that type of talent on it.
Up on Game We're going to be sharing our real
life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen to Up on

(35:10):
Game with Me, LaVar Arrington, t J. Hutchman's out of
and Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app, Apple
podcast or wherever you get your podcast from Steve Harmandy
from Salam. Once again, this is Fox Sports Red Zo
Radio live from the entire IRAQ dot com studios. So

(35:31):
I want to get a little perspective here on this
announcement that Tom Brady filed his retirement papers. That means nothing.
I mean literally means nothing. I'll tell you what was more.
Much bigger news to me about the future Tom Brady
is that he announced that he will not be joining
the Fox uh Sports booth until so that ten year,

(35:59):
three seventy five million dollar contract. He has said publicly
now that he would like to start his broadcast career
not ine, But I think that works well. I think
he needs that. I think he needs some time to
figure out what life is like without the responsibility of

(36:20):
playing in the National Football League. It's different. Okay, First
of all, he's not done yet. He has done because
if the San Francisco forty Niners make the call or
the Miami Dolphins make the call, I'm talking about teams
that are ready made teams, teams that he could, if inserted,

(36:42):
win a Super Bowl with. If he could do it
with Tampa, he certainly could do it with the forty Niners.
Probably could do it with Miami with the kind of
skilled players they have. But again, just because you announced
that you have in it, Okay, so the forty Niners
call him, they are immediately the favorites to win the NFC. Right,

(37:05):
Is there any question if Tom Brady joins the forty Niners,
they are the favorites to win the NFC. Well maybe
the Eagles, all right, but they would be in the
conversation with I. I no, no, I mean, I think
it's amazing how Tom Brady, from a PR standpoint, his

(37:25):
master the art of keeping his name in the news.
So his retirements like you know, the dead week and
then right in the middle of a Super Bowl week.
Also there's tom Brady's name again. He signed his retirement papers.
He'd be a free agent at the end of March. Anyway,
there's no retirement papers for Tom Brady. He can he

(37:47):
can play anywhere he wants, whenever he wants. His contract expires.
To believe, March for her, So don't buy too much
in that. I I I won't believe it until I
see it, until we get to training Camper and and
he's not in a uniform. Fine, but you you believe
that's it? Yeah, I believe he's done. So even if

(38:08):
the forty Niners call him and saying, look, we don't
think that Trey Lance is ready pretty is not ready
to go for us. We're handing you the keys to
the Lamborghini, He's gonna say, no, you're commnced to that. Yes, yeah,
I am. I think he's done. I think he's done.

(38:29):
I think the cornage of what was of his personal
life what last year did, But you don't care. He's like, well,
I mean, have you seen his new girlfriend here? Hey man,
that's a business man. By the way, it's still over
paper razor in this economy gross, but dollar shafe club

(38:49):
you can get a top shelf shave at a regular
shelf price. Dollar Shafe Club is available at a store
near you and the men's razor aisle. That's it. That's
the Yet, so keep in mind again that the idea
that he has signed retirement papers is meaningless when you
have an expiring contract. I know the Patriots have been

(39:12):
reaching out to him with the idea of him signing
one of those ceremonial one day and then retire a Patriot.
The fact that he hasn't done that, and he was
asked about his retirement by Colin and he wasn't saying
anything about a percent retirement. In fact, he was he

(39:35):
was saying, let me, let me get this, I want
to get the quote properly read here. So he goes
on his own podcast and said he still wants to
play and still believes he can play on his own podcast. Well,
maybe he's fool in this th all. So well, Foollest

(39:55):
wants you know, shame on you. Bottom line is is
that the retirement should not be taking seriously. I'll tell
you what should be taken seriously. Is this matchup between
two number one seats. Only the thirteen time ever that
we have two numbers seeds facing off in the Super Bowl.
So Eagles are favored, but what could be the difference

(40:15):
for a Chief's victory. We're gonna tell you. This is
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio all right, rolling on here
as we are, yes, just a day away from the
big game, the matchup between the Eagles and the Cheese.
Who will win Super Bowl fifties seven. We're broadcasting live
from the ti irac dot Com studios Tirac dot com.
We're gonna help get you there an unmatched selection, fast,

(40:37):
free shipping, free road hasard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers,
tirac dot com. The way tire buying should be so
on paper from you look at this matchup and as
we've we've said before, it's rare that we end up
having a Super Bowl where you can look at these

(40:58):
two teams and honestly say, these are the two best
teams right now in the NFL. Forty Niners could have
been in the conversation, but because of the quarterback situation,
they're not. The Eagles are the better team. The Chiefs
have the best player in Patrick Mahomes. So it should
be a really good matchup, and I think it's going
to be a close game. But if it's not, just

(41:23):
say the Eagles really flex their muscles and this game
goes the way of what happened to the Chiefs two
years ago against the Bucks. Let me just stop for
a second there. Two years ago, the Eagles when they
got rid of Doug Peterson, where a team circling the drain.

(41:46):
They were bad. I mean they were really bad. So
Doug petersoner who had won his Super Bowl, was out
the door. Their quarterback situation was a mess. You know,
they were looking at Hurts, but was he really going
to be the replacement? How did the Eagles go from
that to where we are standing right now? Remember if

(42:07):
Hurt saysn't get hurt. You mentioned he's fourteen and one
as a starter. They lost the two games that he
didn't start. I mean conceivably they could have gone sixteen
and one. This How did they get this good? This quick?
Is it just the genius and Nick Sirianni. How exactly
did the Eagles go from where they were two years
ago to where they are now, which is the best

(42:28):
all around team in the NFL. I think it's a
combination of of everything. Sometimes you need, you know, a
leader to emerge. Jalen Hurts knew that this was an
important year for him. He knew that it was. I mean,
you could hear it, you know, he understood that this

(42:49):
team was going to go as far as he would
take them. Once young quarterbacks understand that and embrace it
and then work with that goal in mind, then amazing
things can happen. He had the talent. We know history
in college of what happened to him. Who's leading Alabama

(43:09):
to you know, to a tremendous season and gets benched
at halftime and then eventually has to leave and so
on and so forth. So he's dealt with adversity. I
think that's the thing that gave him the leg up
or the ability to push through all the negative things

(43:32):
that were being said about him. Uh in his first
two years. Now he came on last year, played a
lot better, They got to the playoffs on and so forth,
and then we needed to see a bigger step taken
and which we got a chance to see. And so
it's not really surprising to me that he's played the
way he's played and he's excelled the way he's because

(43:54):
he's done this before at the college level, where there's
so much doubts rounding you, and then you go out
and you still find a way, and you know, the
team resonates with that. The team believes in the guy
who can take it on the chin and keep going,
but not just keep going excel. I mean he was

(44:18):
if he doesn't get hurt, he's gonna probably be the
m v P of the league. So you know, once
that catches fire in the locker room and and teams
realize you have a real leader, they're ready to follow
and they're ready to fight. Nick Sirianni, of course fired
by Andy Reid. Members always talking about Andy Reid, you know,

(44:39):
playing against his former team. Well guess what. Nick Sirianni
was on the Chief's coaching staff for four years before
Andy Reid took over and decided I really don't need you,
so go find another job. He ended up with the
Chargers organization and the rest his history there um When
I'm looking at the Eagles success though right now I
from I can't help but think of what's happening in

(45:00):
the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, Jerry Jones has got to
be like, how did they do it here? Every year
I'm making moves to get us ultimately to the big game,
I bring in a coach that's been there. They bring
in a coach here here. I mean, we talked about
this before. Remember we were talking to Adam Caplan last

(45:23):
week that the the three Eagles coaches that have led
him to Super Bowls, the last three with Sirianni Peterson
and even going back to Andy Reid, all three of
those guys were hired by the Eagles and never got
interviewed by any other teams, no interviews. They just deemed
this is the right guy. By the way, all three

(45:45):
of them have been offensive coaches that have never been
play callers at their so called offensive coordinator jobs. So
something is right with how the Eagles are doing things
right now, and for Jerry Jones and the Cowboy it's
got to be a source of frustration. Let me ask
you this, who would you rather have a quarterback? Right now?
Jalen hurts her Dak Prescot is not even close. And

(46:07):
it starts with what I just talked about as leadership.
Where's the leadership in Dallas? Where's the leadership? Is it?
Michael Parsons mentioning Dak Prescott. It is Dak Prescott not
a leader. I mean the leader is someone that inspires

(46:28):
others to follow. The proof is in the pudding. Okay,
I don't believe that. I can tell you who the
leader of Dallas is. And this has been the problem
for decades. Jerry Jones. He's Jerry Jones, so he assumes
the leadership role. That's what he's gonna do. His word

(46:51):
is law. We don't hear, but we don't hear from
any other owner. He has his own radio show. He's
a businessman, he's a brand man, and he's building a brand.
The Dallas Cowboys don't have to win for him to
have the biggest brand in the biggest sport in this country.
They don't have to win. Let me ask you this,

(47:11):
Dallas Cowboys winning the Super Bowl next year, what does
it due to their uh, their their overall value. Nothing.
It just feeds the ego Jerry ja It doesn't do
anything right. So you begin to do things like that,
you begin to make decisions and and you move knowing,
no matter what, your brand is going to be bigger

(47:34):
than anyone else's. So you do things that may not
may or may not be in the best interests of football.
You sign a running back to a ridiculous contract and
he never lives up to it. You give a regular
average quarterback, you pay him as the top quarterback in

(47:57):
the league. Like the things come back to haunt you.
You let him Marie Cooper go. So now you're in
a situation where you're asking, well, what's wrong with the
Dallas Cowboys. Well, there, there, you have it right. The
Philadelphia Eagles have an organic leader that started in the

(48:18):
locker room and has spread. This kid is playing out
of his mind. The team is playing out of their mind.
The defense is stepping up to the challenge, and we
don't get that at Dallas. It's just I think you
bring up an excellent point about Jerry Jones just sucking
the air out of the room, And where where is

(48:41):
the motivation for the team, Because again, he's gonna make
money no matter what. They're the most valued professional franchise
in the world, even more valuable than the football teams
that did inhabit Europe. Yeah, I mean, it's a ten
billion dollar organization who hasn't won since the nineties. But

(49:02):
that doesn't change the fact that the Eagles are where
he wants to be. You know, he wants to get there.
He's trying. You gotta make smarter decisions. Well, I mean,
how about his shame was plugging of Dak Prescott in
the wake up and he did it with this this
look the formula. We're shocked and surprised. No Romo, Remember

(49:27):
he was adamant that Tony Romo was gonna lead them
to the super Bowl. You know, there's no player that
I've gotten more grief on social media for criticism than
Tony Romo. Of course that's Dallas Cowboy fans. Every year
they're going to the Super Bowl and every year they don't.
Seven straight years champion. You can't that's crazy. You can't

(49:53):
right throw mud in our face and tell us it's
it's it's rain are the Eagles? Because Jerry Jones, did
you hear what he said about the Eagles? He said, well,
they built for like one moment, no, no, no, no,
as as opposed to us building for the future, which apparently,

(50:14):
is that twenty seven year building process since their last
tips of the conference championship game. No team has won
consecutive NFC East championships since Annie Reading the Eagles rattle
off four in from O one to OH four. Is
this Eagle team and operation? Are they just having a drink?
We saw that with Carolina that one year. Atlanta had

(50:37):
that big year, I mean, and then they were gone.
But what we've what we've seen them do is they
made moves to get better. They brought in juh A J.
Brown as big as difference changed everything, everything that changed everything.
Those are things you do to get better. Remember Dallas

(50:57):
was like, we're gonna do O b J. What was
O b J gonna do for you? Yeah, they brought
in t Y Hilton. What you Sarry Roseman gonna get
in the Hall of Fame? You gotta. I mean when
you think about it, when you when you leave a
most championship executives they did it with one team, like
one quarterback, one coach, whatever. This would be two super Bowls.

(51:22):
They're only I believe seven players left from the Eagles
team that won the championship five years ago. This is
a completely new team, new coaching staff knew everything, and
here they are one win away from a championship, all right.
On the other side, the Kansas City Chiefs. And with
the Chiefs it comes down to legacy, the legacy of

(51:43):
their coach, the legacy of their quarterback. We have another
number that maybe a little shocking if you're a Chiefs fan.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio Steve Harmony from
salam This is Fox Sports a Red Zone Radio alive
from the ti iraq dot com studios. And like you

(52:03):
out there, we are getting ready for the big game tomorrow.
All right. So the Chiefs are underdogs in this game,
slight underdogs. The line has been pretty steady at a
point and a half in favor of the Eagles, so
that's almost like a pick um game. But it seems
like everybody is picking the Eagles. I talked to a

(52:24):
lot of people there in Arizona along Radio Row. Everyone
I kept talking to, it seemed like the overwhelming majority
of people were picking the Eagles, even if they were
conceding the fact that Mahomes is the best player. Now,
this is a stat that was actually mentioned during the week.
I saw it listed elsewhere, and it really is a

(52:44):
weird stat. So Mahomes wins the m v P award
and you're like, yeah, well he deserved it. But how
about this. The last nine players to win the a
P Most Valuable Player Award who layed in the Super
Bowl lost the last nine, including Tom Brady twice when

(53:08):
he was named the league m v P and lost
the Super Bowl. Now, this is a really weird stat.
The last guy to win the regular season m v
P and win the Super Bowl was Kurt Warner the
first time. Now two years later he was the m
v P and lost the Super Bowl, and it's been
all losers ever since. Now I would say, okay, how

(53:33):
significant is that? But we're talking about nine in a row,
and two of them are Tom Brady. So I don't
know if that that that would make me a little
nervous if I were a Chiefs fan going into this game.
All right, Okay, so let's talk about where Mahomes fell
short in his first two Super Bowls. He said, well,

(53:56):
he won the first Super Bowl, but he didn't play
great until late in the game, and certainly against the
Buccaneers he was under siege. It was the worst game
of his life. He said, that worst game of his life,
and it ended up on the biggest stage as they
got wiped out by Tampa Bay. All right, so you're
any read, you're Eric b enemy, You're trying to figure
this out. You're going against that Eagle defense, a front

(54:18):
set a record for sacks. You know they're gonna bring it.
You know your quarterback is still not a hundred percent,
but certainly better off physically than he was a couple
of weeks ago. What's your game plan here? How how
are you going to run this offense and get points
against that Eagles defense? They got to get something um
out of the run game, they really do. They gotta

(54:41):
get something. They gotta be able to to run the
ball to bring the safeties down to change what Philadelphia
wants to do defensively, because they'll just play back and
give you underneath right, that's been the recipe. We're gonna
give you underneath passes and get pressure on the quarterback.

(55:02):
So they gotta be able to run the ball. When
they got two high safeties, you gotta be able to
hand the ball off and get four four at four
point five, four and a half five yards per carry.
That'll open up the passing game. That will allow you
to be able to now when that safety comes down,
now you can take those shots down the field. So

(55:24):
I've been looking at their record in games where they
didn't run the ball. Well, remember they only had forty
two yards rushing against the Bengals. But Mahomes, and I
said to the people, are he to me? I was
never more impressed than Mahomes. He's had bigger games obviously,
you know, statistically, but he really get it out. But
when you look at the course of their season, like

(55:49):
in the regular season, the last game they lost was
to the Bengals, Right, they lost that regular season and
they had a hundred thirty eight yards rushing in the game,
and the rematch they had forty two and they won
the game. Obviously they can't turn the ball over all, Right,
So when you watch Mahomes at his most efficient, what
is he doing? Is it just because he's you know,

(56:13):
mobile or extending plays? To me that that's as a
recipe for disaster. You do not want to try to
extend plays against the Eagles because they're gonna get to you,
is gonna find you. You need to get rid of
the ball quick and neutralize that pass rush immediately. Yeah,

(56:35):
it's it's a situation where if he can be you know,
if if he can if he can be on target
meaning back foot hit, delivered the ball, boom, let's keep
it moving. What you don't want him doing is running

(56:57):
around and having being pursued and being chased. Yes, we
know he's dynamic on the move, but he's not. He's
not as good as his ankle is. He's not gonna
be as fast as as uh he would like to be.
So you don't want to be in a situation where

(57:18):
someone's chasing you down from behind and they grabbed the
ankle or roll up on the ankle like you want
to be able to protect yourself and and and your
and your body but still getting the ball down the field.
So I would think the best thing was to be
on time with the with the ball. You want to
hear a weird stat show this is not a surprising

(57:39):
stat that the Chiefs were number one in the league
and touchdown passes now mahomes lesly at forty one touchdowns right, yep,
they gave up thirty three touchdown passes. That was dead
last in the NFL. They gave up more passing touchdowns

(58:02):
than any other team in the league. Now does that
change you at all if you're the Eagles, Because the
Eagles are predicated on the run game. They want to
run the ball. But you are looking, you're going against
the defense. You got a j. Brown, you got Davonte Smith,
you got some weapons out there. They gave up more

(58:24):
passing touchdowns team in the league. You run the ball.
That takes the steam out of Chris Johnson. You don't
want him just rushing the passer because you can't block him.
Can't block him. You gotta run the ball. You gotta
make him chase the ball care You gotta make him

(58:45):
defend the double team. You got a pound on him.
He won that game for Kansas City against Cincinnati in
their backup offensive lineman. You don't you don't want him
to be a game record like that. And he has
to build need to do that tremendous talent. The Chiefs
defensively gave up almost as many yards rushing as they

(59:07):
had as a team. Does not bode well against an
Eagles team. They can go so many different directions. Uh
And and you know, we've been talking about the injuries
with Mahomes, but the fact remains is that you know,
Jalen Hurts is still trying to round himself back into
condition after his late season injury. Why are you sweating

(59:28):
this game? Hey man? Okay, you are unbelievable. Yeah, because
when you start turning the ball over, all right, I
got I got a little news for you. Listen to this.
Are you still over paying for a razor in this
economy thross? With Dollars Shave Club, you can get top
shelf shave at a regular shell price. Dollars Shave Club

(59:51):
is available at a store near you in the men's
razor aisle. That's it, it's the that's the end. Okay,
stop sweating out these games by Why at half the four?
Now that's a six. An NFL team up thirty three
at the half and lose? Hey man, Okay, that doesn't happen.

(01:00:12):
Isn't that just human nature? When you're just dominating somebody
here going a halftime of your thoughts are already what
we're gonna do post game? That's that's human nature. Even
if the coach says we're gonna pretend like it's zero zero,
it's not zero zero. They can see the score. Don't worry,
You'll be fine, all right, let's find out what's trending.

(01:00:32):
Right now, let's get to him right now. I'm gonna
let you just observe. Okay, Bryan Finley is bag deefen
that's sitting with e from Salon during an Astex basketball game.
Is a challenge. Yeah, have you have you checked your
blood pressure level? Steve? Well, first of all, it's not
just that, all right, So he has you know, he's coaching,

(01:00:53):
and he's wearing many hats these days, and he leaves
a game every Saturday when he comes here usually with
a healthy lead, and then as soon as he leaves,
the lead of oparates. So he's living that in real
time with this team, and then on top of that,
he's watching it again play out with his his team

(01:01:17):
being Sandy State. It's a source of frustration because from
this would not happen if you were the coach, right,
It doesn't matter whether it's your little kids or you
were like the coach at Sandy Go State, this would
not happen. Complacency. How would you do this? How would
you fight against this complacency? Oh my gosh, man, you know,

(01:01:41):
shout out to my younger team, the Black Mambas at
the North Weddington Recreations. Ander, we won thirty six today.
You know that's what we're doing. I gotta tell you, Steve,
I think what you're realizing is that you're an EmPATH

(01:02:02):
and that you take on other people's stuff that are
around you in your airspace. So essentially, what we're learning
about you is your softer side, that the side of
you that that doesn't always get out. It's not that
you see every every broadcast idea. It's a partnership now.
Firm and I have done a lot of shows and
we know a lot about each other. I know it's passion.

(01:02:25):
I get it. What I what I want to know.
You guys are talking about trying to talk him off
the ledge. I want to know. You know you guys
are talking about shaving earlier. I don't think Steve can
actually form facial hair. That's what I was so considered.
My voice might always have the exact same situation, like it's, uh,

(01:02:47):
we're not really a lot of facial hair. Yeah. I
got that memo pretty pretty tomorrow tomorrow morning, so I
have to I have a full day tomorrow. I got
the five hour radio show on the f TV at night,
so I'm gonna be all shape ready to go at
eight thirty in the morning. I'll be on TV at midnight.

(01:03:09):
What you're saying, nothing will be good knowing you, you'll
probably go to sleep with your suit on tonight and
wake up at six am. And yeah, I don't know
you guys said how I'm envious. I mean I'm envious,
are you? Fenley doesn't have a beard either. That he's
one to talk. No, and when you she's rump. I

(01:03:29):
always saying when you grow, when it it's like peach fuzz,
it kind of comes ter. Yeahs like the mange on
the dog. That's why I think keeping the short. Well, yeah,
you have a boyish, smooth face as well, so very
round circular, yes, he said, doesn't fit in a lot
of hats either. I have a huge head. It's a

(01:03:52):
massive melon. Yeah. Well, what do we guys going on
in the world. Yeah, so we do have college basketball,
and that is taking center stage right now. Duke is
tied with number eight Virginia thirty seven apiece fourteen minutes
to go in regulation of that one. Number seventeen TCU
is holding on forty two against number fourteen Baylor. That

(01:04:14):
one is about halfway through the second and then the
game of the show, you could argue, and it's being
seen right now on Fox Television. Number twenty five San
Diego State is sweating out a fifty to thirty four
advantage against un l V at San Diego State. So
even with the sixteen point lead, e From is still

(01:04:34):
a bit nervous. We do know that number five Texas
flushed down West Virginia ninety four to sixty. St. John's
pulling up, the pulling off, the upset seventy three to
sixty eight against number twenty Providence. Number nine Kansas Dice
is up Oklahoma seventy eight to fifty five, and number
three Oklahoma finds that second half comeback as they get

(01:04:56):
by Bruce Pearl and Auburn seventy seven to sixty. And lastly,
guys in the NBA, the Lakers saying Lebron James is
not gonna play tonight as he has left ankle sore
nous when the team takes on the Golden State Warriors
and his former teammate Russell Westbrook, who recently was sent
to the Jazz and that trade before the deadline. Now,
ESPN is saying that the Westbrook isn't really sure if
he sees a future in Utah and could be negotiating

(01:05:18):
a buyout so that he could be free to go elsewhere.
And lastly, the MAVs announced that Lukachi is probable tonight
against the Kings after missing the last four games with
a right heel contution. So exciting to watch du Chich
and Kyrie Irving teaming up on the court in the
same uniform. That's gonna happen for the first time tonight.

(01:05:40):
With that, let's get back to two guys who they
might be wearing the same uniform when doing a radio show,
but when they're in a moment of trying to support
one another or root for one another's teams, there is
where the friction is. Well, I I wouldn't call it
friction there. There's a little bit of compare editiveness here. Okay,

(01:06:01):
both of us are competitive people. Hey, I'm gonna stay
with the college Huts for a moment here because coach
k of course, stepped down after a thousand years there
at Duke and john S Shire took over as the
head coach of the team, and I'm looking at the

(01:06:22):
rivals one fifty. Okay, this is the top rated high
school basketball players in the country. Three of the top
five sign with Duke. Three of the top five players
coming out of high school are part of this Duke team,
and year one they are unranked. There's seventeen and seven,

(01:06:45):
eight and five in the A c C. In other words,
they're a run of the mill, middle of the road
team despite having three of the top five rated high
school players on their roster. Now one of them got hurt,
but still maybe coach K was pretty good. Yeah, Coach
K was great. I mean Coach K. You know, it

(01:07:06):
was one of the great basketball coaches. Uh to have
a coach and what he was able to do with
the Olympic team everything, well, I mean, you know, obviously
sure he had been on the bench next to him
all these years, but to inherit three of the top
five players in the country a pretty good inheritance. And
that's why he felt like, hey, I've left you in

(01:07:27):
great shape something. They haven't done anything with it, and
they are just mediocre and right now they're battling Virginia
over there. All right, let's talk a little bit about
Andy Reid here for a moment. So, um, by the way,
did you see the Hall of Fame selection for the
Pro Football Hall of fair Okay, so we knew that
two guys were obviously first ballot guys, Joe Thomas or

(01:07:50):
el Rebus. Neither one was a question mark at all,
and they were both first ballot guys. The other three
guys that were elected were DeMarcus Ware, who got in
on his second about there are a lot of people
thought he should have been a first ballot guy. Make
a good argument or nine Pro Bowls, four times All Pro? Uh,
Zach Thomas who had been waiting for quite a while,
Desmite being a five time first team All Pro, and

(01:08:12):
then Randey Barber all those years with the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers finally got in. Um Also getting in was Don Corriel,
who was literally game change and even if he didn't
win a championship at a coach, his impact on the
game was immeasurable. And then you get the senior candidates,
and you know, for most of these guys, you know,

(01:08:33):
people don't remember him, you know, you know, by the way,
one of those guys, Joe Cleco, I'll always remember this
and you can't respect this. So when I was working
for the Raiders, Joe Clecko was a great player, and
he was versatile. You know, he played inside, outside, defensive
line and everything else. But he has a lot of
injuries with the Jets. And he came to the Raiders

(01:08:55):
when I was working for the Raiders for a workout
see if he had any gas left. And I remember
because he was a good friend of how He Long,
who was obviously on our team. And I remember watching
this guy and he couldn't even walk like a guy
comes for a workout, right, and he's literally dragging his
leg And I'm thinking to myself, you know, you've had

(01:09:16):
a great career. It's over. And we you know, he
didn't pass any physical A week later he signed with
the Colts. They signed him and he played a year
essentially on one leg. I mean, how is that? Man?
I mean, I get it, man, But seriously, you're putting
yourself in danger, can be I mean, we we got

(01:09:38):
this to a tongue of by lowest story, right, with
all his talk about his concussions and everything else, and
recurring concussions, can you explain to our audience, in light
of physical trauma to the extreme, how you can still
drag your ouse out there or want to drag your
ass out there, it's still love. Man. You You when

(01:10:00):
you grow up in team sports, especially football, there's so
much suffering with your team, like it builds a bond
that that's unbreakable. And then you feel indebted to the
to your teammates. Right do you want to give everything
because you know they're giving everything, and so that's it's

(01:10:24):
hard to shake that off. It's hard to not be
a part of that. You know, most of these guys
have been playing football since they were kids, and no
matter what the level is, you know, it's that responsibility,
that that drive, that that want to play and be
with your team, it never goes away. I'll never forget that.

(01:10:47):
I just remember thinking, how sad man. I mean, it's
a I was gonna say, Joe, Joe, it's over, and
he signs all the Colts and played another year. I
guess it wasn't over. But now he's gonna be in
the profile Ball Hall of Fame. Andy Reid has had
tremendous success and he won a Super Bowl. How do

(01:11:11):
you rate Andy Reid as a coach? I mean, he's
had tremendous regular season success. His postseason numbers are a
mixed bag. I mean, this is his fourth super Bowl,
third in the last four years. But if the Chiefs
do not win this game, this is his eighteenth time

(01:11:32):
in the playoffs and he's won one super Bowl. You
do know it's hard to win Super Bowl, right, I
know it's hard to win a Super Bowl. And I
think back to Marty Schottenheimer, who I got to know
in his last one with the Chargers. He never made
it to a Super Bowl. He won two hundred games.

(01:11:52):
I think there's only seven or eight coaches who have
ever won two hundred games in the regular season. He
never made it to a single Super a Ball. Should
that preclude him from ever being considered for the Hall
of Fame? Now, Don Corey, I don't know if he
got to a Super Bowl and he finally got him
because he was an innovator. But I just wonder about

(01:12:12):
any Reid because I used to gas on him constantly saying,
what does he ever won? Well, he finally got his
one super Bowl. He's he's going to be in the
Hall of Fame. But Grant went to four Super Bowls,
never won one, made it to the Hall of Fame.
Marv Leavy went to four Super Bowls, never won one,
went to the Hall of Fame. Yeah, he won six

(01:12:33):
of his game. I understand that what impresses you about
Andy Reid as a coach. I think that his um,
his ability to communicate with his players. Andy Reid gives
you the sense of you know, this player coach vibe. Right,
I mean you were playing the league obviously when he
was with the Eagles, So I mean and you talk,

(01:12:54):
players talk, what do they say about Yeah, you know
some coaches you feel like you can go say anything to,
whether it be about football, or about life, or about
anything going on. Andy Reid is one of those type
of coaches. The fact that he had to deal with
so much personal tragedy with his sons, somehow you humanize

(01:13:17):
that's that's that that you humanize them because because players
have things going on in their households too, but we're
we're trained and taught to compartmentalize everything and don't let
that get in a way. So to having a coach
that you know did experiences those type of things that

(01:13:39):
someone make like that brings you closer to them. Right,
They're human, They're human, and that human aspect of it
makes you feel like you can go talk to him
about anything. Hill my, my, girl tripping, man, I don't
know what's going right, like it's very few Like I didn't.
I never felt like I go talk to Dan Reeves
about everything, but I can go talk too about everything,

(01:14:01):
not Mike Shanahan, you know what I mean. So it's
it's one of those situations where you know the player
coach thing is is. It's real, it really is. And
Andy Reid has that type of or in that type
of of of feeling about him with with his teammates.

(01:14:22):
When I'm looking at coaches and this is any sport, look,
they all put in a lot of work. You know.
When you're an NFL head coach, you and your coaching
staff are working literally around the clock getting the team ready,
game plans and everything else right. But the separator is
the guy that can adjust when the game's actually happening.

(01:14:43):
And that's rare. There are very few coaches that do
that well. Where you have a game plan and you
think you have the right game planning, you get to
halftime and to just rip it up, let's start over
again and get everybody on the same page so you're
ready to go. Obviously he is. Yep, Mike Tomlin is

(01:15:07):
one of those coaches. Right, that's the separator. Is any
read that kind of guy? I believe. So he's lost
some big games in his hand. A lot of coaches
have lost big games they half. I mean, that's just
the bottom line. You know. He used to lose a
lot of big games, don't Shula. I mean, some really

(01:15:29):
big games, including that Super Bowl three when he was
the Colts coach. Alright, coming up on the other side,
much more as far as al right, everyone's gonna have
some fun on a Super Bowl Sunday. Right, you're gonna

Com Once again this Fox Sports Red Zone Raia. We
are live from the Tiraq dot com studios. So do
you ever make any wagers on the Super Bowl? Either points,
spread over unders, or any of these prop bets you
It used to be the one event that I would
bet on every year until I kept losing, and then

(01:16:55):
I decided this ridiculous. I can't get anything betting, right.
I would think one of the all time prop bets
would be the national anthem. Chris Stapleton is performing the
national anthem. Now, if you sing the national anthem at
a normal pace, it's two minutes, so they always have

(01:17:19):
this over under. I've never understood for a moment how
this isn't a fix, right. I mean, if you're singing
the national anthem, you have a good sense of time.
You know the difference between two minutes and two minutes
and five seconds or two minutes and ten seconds or

(01:17:40):
the other way around a minute fifty five. So it's
not like you're betting on yourself, but you know, it's
sort of like a wink wing to other friends. You know,
you know what I'm talking about now that you have
a limit on these bets. You know the prop bets
have limits on them. But still, yeah, I would be like, yo, man,
I'm doing two minutes and ten second. Yeah, these are

(01:18:02):
professional singers. They know exactly how long they're gonna take
to sing the anthem. I'm gonna go over on Stapleton, though,
I'm gonna go over on this one. I believe it's
two minute? What about you guys going over under? I
believe I've seen a couple of variations on the over
under the line. It's it's it's either take over two
minutes or take under two minutes. I'm think in Stapleton

(01:18:24):
is a guy. I think he's gonna milk it, but
it seems like he's gonna do a little longer rendition.
Anybody gonna go with the over on this one? I'll
take the under. You're going under on Stapleton? Are we
betting against each other? I'm trying to get a consensus here,
But what do you say on the over? Let's set

(01:18:46):
it at two minutes two seconds for Stapleton? Over under,
under under? Yeah, that's a long national anthem. Two minutes
two minutes is a normal pace. Now. It's funny because
I was looking up let's say, the last six years
on the over under, it's been split. So hm, what

(01:19:06):
else we guys, Oh, I have some more in the
next hour for you. I believe I always have letter. Also,
Adam Caplan, by the way, it's gonna be joining us.
You know, I had a chance to do that podcast
with him. He's good, It's really good. He was. You know,
he had a lot of people over there, just one
after he was just like one after another. I did
share some stories. He was asking me, when did you

(01:19:28):
know that things are going to be different working for
Al Davis. I said it took exactly one game to
realize what I was up against. We'll share that a
little bit later on in the day. I'm gonna go
over on Stapleton. I think he's gonna do a long
anthem this year. The one thing I will say is

(01:19:51):
I'm pretty sure about my bed on this game. We're
gonna have our picks for this Super Bowl matchup between
the Chiefs and the Eagles coming up in the next hour. Also,
the over unders. We're continuing all of our coverage, so
anything you need is just getting ready for this big game.

insider is gonna be joining us a little bit later
on in this hour. He of course, was in uh
Phoenix the entire week. I was there all week as well,
hanging around Radio Road, just getting a feel, uh for

(01:20:57):
this game and the matchup, and it just seemed y.
It was like everyone had the same story. The Eagles
are the better team, but the Chiefs have the best
player now. Patrick Mahomes E from was asked about Tom
Brady's legacy and whether or not he could ever get there.
And when it's amazing when you think about, like we said,

(01:21:22):
Mohos has played five years in the NFL. He's been
in the conference championship well five years. He played one
game as rookie, but five years as a starting quarterback.
He's been in the conference championship game all five years.
He's won three. The only two he lost were an overtime,
so he easily could have been in five straight Super Bowls.
He's won two m v P Awards. But he really

(01:21:44):
put things in perspective when asked about catching Brady. Here's
what he said. He goes, quote, it'll be tough. I mean,
seven super Bowl victories, ten super Bowls. There's a reason
he's so far ahead of everyone else. It's hard to do,
but I'm gonna do my best to chase that. But
I'll do my best to chase somebody starting to try

(01:22:05):
to win this one this week. It does put in perspective, though,
Tom Brady ten super Bowls, seven super Bowl championships. By
the way, he got to the conference championship game fourteen times. Yeah,
that's that's miraculous. And like I said, there was a

(01:22:28):
lull there for ten years where he didn't win a
Super Bowl, including season on which he was undefeated and
didn't win a super Bowl. So you know, if if
Patrick Mahomes, if anyone has a chance, it's him because
he's got a great start. He's got a great start.
He's only going to get better. It's about can he

(01:22:51):
hold the team together, can you keep the pieces? And
how much long is Andy Regna coach? Well, I think
any needable coach as long as he has Patrick Mahomes's quarterback.
I mean, you know, and and by the way, staying
of sticking around and stability is a big part of this.
I mean, we we You mentioned Mike Tomlin earlier, who, honestly,

(01:23:14):
I thought you should have gotten more recognition. I saw
the Coach of the Year voting Tomlin got, you know,
just a couple of I mean, how he won, how
he ended up with a winning record with a rookie quarterback.
This year in Pittsburgh, to me was his best coaching
job ever. There were a lot of guys like that.
It had so made. But again, it's about stability in

(01:23:34):
the organization, you know, speaking of the chiefs. Speaking of stability,
Eric b Enemy, remember the last couple of years the
enemy was sort of that hot, you know, possibility to
be a head coach, and we kept hearing the same
thing over and over again. Well he doesn't interview well
or whatever it was. I didn't hear any of that
this year. I mean, there was some rumors of other

(01:23:54):
teams offering offensive coordinator positions where a scene he would
be calling play as opposed to what's happening with the Chiefs.
But I don't know if the enemy is getting enough
credit here. Look, if i'm Eric the enemy, I'm like,
hey man, I'm gonna ride this thing out. We're just
gonna keep winning and winning and winning. That was Josh

(01:24:16):
McDaniels in a same thing, same thing. So he's in
a good spot because he has Patrick Mahomes. You know,
he could go to Carolina and what you know what
I mean, here's something I've always I have been thinking
about asking you this question because I want to know

(01:24:38):
this all right. So you you got the Chiefs and
you've been in five straight conference championship games, here's your
third super Bowl in four years. He got the league's
MVP at quarterback, and you're a coach, and it's the
question of if it ain't broke wife fix it as
opposed to adding to what you're already doing. But if

(01:25:03):
you do that, it may throw you off for some reason.
So how difficult is it when you have a quarterback
like Mahomes to resist the temptation of making any kind
of changes to essentially feed your own ego as a coach,
because that would be coming down. So I got some
ideas for you, right, you know you were you play

(01:25:23):
with a few of these coaches are really fashioned themselves
as guys that have completely changed the game, Like they
have the new idea on what's the next thing in
the NFL? So how difficult do you think it is
for Nanny Reeve, for the enemy some of the coaches,
for the Chiefs to just say, you know what, what
we got is working and let's stick with it. Yeah,

(01:25:43):
I think, um, not all great coordinators make great head coaches.
Are good head coaches. Oh yeah, we've seen that plenty.
So Nathaniel Haget, you know it's it's I and I
can't even call him a great coordinator. But there's something

(01:26:06):
to be said to like, if you want to be
a head coach, then I think you should be afforded
that opportunity. But there's nothing wrong with being the highest
paid assistant coach are coordinator? Did I? Did I hear
the Fangio numbers? Right? He's making four million. It's not

(01:26:28):
a bad living, man, make a good living, right, Do
what you do, specialize in what you do, and focus
on that and you don't have to answer to the media. Man.
I said all the time. Every great coordinator does not
make a great head coach. It is. It's a difficult
thing to do. Now some can make the transition and
be dynamic head coaches. I am. I'm hoping and praying

(01:26:50):
for Damiko Ryan's Did that happens for him because he
deserves it. Congratulations, don't win an Assistant Coach of the Year.
Tremendous young man, great he made, came in as a
leader in the locker room. So you know, I'm pulling
for Demiko. He's back where it all started for him
in the NFL. Yeah, good luck. You've you're joining a

(01:27:11):
team that's had to hunt and done in an zero
talent um. But look, and he's gonna have a rookie quarterball.
This is something he aspired to four and I hope
it it pays dividend for him. Well, we'll see, But
I I think that because of the Andy Reid situation

(01:27:32):
with Mahomes. Yeah, I look at I was one of
those that insisted that losing Tyree Kill was going to
have a major adverse effect in the Chiefs and I
was wrong. Wrong. As it turns out, the one guy
they can't do without his Travis Kelsey. Oh, by the way,
speaking of tight ends fra him, did you hear what

(01:27:53):
Sean Payton threw out there trying to convince Gronk at
a retire ironment. Now it's a little tongue in cheek,
but I can't imagine Gronk going anywhere that Tom Brady's
not right. Yeah, that doesn't make sense. That wouldn't make sense.
Who wouldn't want to have a Gronk though? By the way,

(01:28:14):
speaking of since Kelsey is your biggest nightmare in terms
of offensive weapon for that Chiefs team, and no one
seems to have an answer for Kelsey, what do you
do with the Eagles? Do you double them in the
entire game? What do you do if you're the Eagles
and try to contain Kelsey, especially in the red zone?

(01:28:35):
You you have to be physical with him at the
line of scrimmage. You have to throw off the timing.
And if you throw off the timing, that will allow
that rush to get to petrol home. That's been the
recipe of of of success for them. So you do that.
You do that, You throw off the timing at the
line of scrimmage, and then you are aggressive. Seriously, many

(01:29:00):
times have we've seen teams going against the Chiefs and
Kelsey runs free right off the line of scrimmage. I
don't get that. There's a five yard rule. Take advantage
of it. Hit him. The passing game is based on timing.
If you throw him off a step and can chase
the whole dynamic of the play, I just I would

(01:29:20):
imagine the Eagles. We're gonna try to figure that out.
All right. We got a lot to break down in
terms of this matchup for Super Bowl fifty seven between
the Eagles and the Chiefs. And a guy that pretty
much have predicted that this was going to be the matchup,
he's gonna braid it all down. He's coming fresh off
the trip to Phoenix. He has everything. All the latest
news perspective from both teams are Fox Sports Radio. NFL

(01:29:44):
insider Adam Caplan will join us next, Steve Hartman from Salon.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio and we are
live from the tire Rack dot Com studios. All right,
so we've been giving our re eat on matchups, key
players and all the strategy as we go into Super

(01:30:06):
Bowl fifty seven between the Eagles and the Chiefs. But
now we bring on the real expert, a man that
lives and breathes at seven. He, of course, as our
dear friend and our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider, the
great Adam Kaplan. And Adam, first of all, uh, it
was great to finally meet you face to face. Actually
bumped into each other quite a bit on Radio Row

(01:30:28):
over the several days we were there. And then he
from I had a chance to sit down with him,
and it's amazing how you sense the perfect question to
lead it off with me, like when did you know
like working with Al Davis was going to be a
challenge and I had I said, how about one game?
One game? I shared it. But it was great to
see out there, Adam. It was It was great to

(01:30:49):
see Steven get to know you there. Yeah. We we
did this on Radio Row at the Convention Center in
downtown Phoenix. It was it was great to see you
there and in person. And look, I'm sure Steve, you
knew are from being a couple of days on Radio Row.
It's a very strong sentiment that the Eagles should win
this game. I was kind of curious about what that
would be like. I got there Tuesday, I left Friday, uh,

(01:31:13):
and just talking to people current and former players, the
heavy sentiment was leaning towards the Eagles. Oh, no doubt
about that. In fact, even and I were talking about
it's amazing because the line really hasn't moved. It's almost
a pickup, and Eagles like a point a half, two
point favorite. Nothing really extreme out there. Everyone seems to
say the same thing though, Adam, that the Eagles have
the better team, but the Chiefs have the best player.

(01:31:36):
When you look at the Chiefs, where do they have
an advantage? Quarterback tied in? Maybe, coach, is that enough
to win this game? I learned my lesson in inen
for the Super Bowl the Patriots Eagles. My point was
that I just didn't see any way that Doug Peterson
went out Coach Bill Belichick, and that's exactly what happened.

(01:31:57):
You just you can't count on that. I always thought oh,
experience matters. It does. You'd rather have than not. But
it's about the game plan and execution. And it's a
one game season. This is it. Could you put your
best game plan together and eagle through the kits and
sink at him. You don't about the Philly special, that
play which I talked to John d Filippo, the former
Eagles quarterback coach last week, and he said, during the

(01:32:20):
week there they ran at five times at all five
times it failed, but yet it worked in the game.
I don't know how that happens. But I don't know
if it doesn't work doing exactly I don't know less. Well,
how about this one? He said? He John said he
looked at Press Taylor, who was his assistant quarterbacks coach.
He's now the O C of the Jaguars, and they
both looked at each other and said, oh boy, here

(01:32:41):
we go because they know what happened during the week.
So I think there is some luck other than you
have a really good roster. Some things have to go right,
and not sure it wentn't right. Let me ask you
this on of your time in Arizona, what was the
one thing that stood out the most in terms of

(01:33:02):
in terms of people, you talked to Ryan Leaf. I
met Ryan last year and I did his show on
Points Beat and we got to meet in person, and
he came on My Eagle show and I gotta tell
you it was super emotional. We we we had him
on my partner Jeff Motion, and I had him on
and we literally could have gone an hour. We we

(01:33:24):
didn't have that much time, but we went twenty minutes.
That was phenomenal. T J houshman Zada was great, who
as you know, he's a weekend host here on Fox
Sports Radio. And he told the story about how he
worked out in l A with Jalen Hurts and how
Hurts kind of took over one of the workouts and
on the field and how he kind of led the
players that who we didn't even know, and he put

(01:33:45):
that in the back of his mind and he thought
he saw some great leadership there. So and also I
talked to Jim McMahon about what he's doing and what
he's going through. Uh. That that was an amazing discussion.
I've never met him before, I never talked to him,
so that that was amazing. But there's also the cooling
is talking to current players from and seeing how they
viewed not only the two teams here, but their own team.

(01:34:07):
So you get to learn now they're able to digest
the season. Like I talked to Rashad White, the who
just finished his rookie season with the Bucks, about the
challenge and he knows he's gonna be a starting running
back sooner rather than later with Leonard for Nette still
in the roster. Talked to Jeremy Chan of the Panthers
and about his situation about heading into the final year.
Was rookie deal. Talked to so many veteran quarterbacks, guys

(01:34:28):
who have finished their career. It's great to talk to
Jim Everett. By the way, I never met him, we
talked over social media before. It was great to meet
him and give his version. Uh. But the only I'll
tell you this, the only X player that like the
chase and was slightly with Jeff Schwartz, who you guys
know well of course, of course yeah he is, he
is he always. I look at I did a show

(01:34:49):
with Jess, so I know where he stands with the
Chiefs and everything. Let me ask you this about the Eagles, Adam,
because two years ago when they let Doug Peterson gild
This team was a mess total, man. How did they
go from that to the most complete current team in
the NFL in two years? How they do it? I'm
gonna give you the players. A J Brown trade Devonte

(01:35:11):
Smith first round draft pick, Landon Dickerson secon round draft pick.
Last year, they trade Zach Ertz Dallas got it becomes
their starting tight end. He has a breakout season. Jalen
Hurts he's now the start of Carson Wentz will be
in his fourth team in four years. Coming up, Josh
Schwat has a breakout season. Has Son Reddick. What an
unbelieable signing. He's had one of the best seasons in
Eagles history in terms of sacks. The trade for C. J.

(01:35:34):
Garner Johnson to start the season, the signing of James
Bradberry was cut by the Giants. I mean, I just
gave you like eight or nine players, Steve. I mean,
it's it's kind of one of these things that every
one of those moves worked out. It it's I hate
to say it's luck. It's not luck. It's it's a
great evaluation. My Howard he Roseman, the general manager, and
also by the way Street free agent signings like Lynn

(01:35:56):
Val Joseph who really has helped the run defense a
domin Gan Sue was getting good snaps as a backup.
When you're when you're adding all these new players since
how bad they were, you could kind of turn things around.
That's what they've been able to do. Um when when
I'm looking at the super Bowl, it's it's great. But

(01:36:17):
NFL Honors had their their awards. What do you think
about the Jets moving forward? What do they need to
do at quarterback? Obviously they had the NFL Rookie Offensive
Rookie of the Year and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Where do you see the Jets what they need to
do and what do you see them next year? Yeah,

(01:36:39):
they're gonna make a significant move at quarterback. I don't
know that'll be Derek Carror not. I know they've interested
in him, but we know that he's been visiting with
the Saints. They know they have to do that to
take the next step. It's obvious. Actually ran into nick
Man Gold. You might remember him as a form for
the Jets. He he does a Jets podcast with Mark
san Jets former teammate, and he grade their quarterback away

(01:37:00):
from being good football team, probably be in a playoff team.
They'll get Breesce Allback who you know, it's interesting, guys,
they had the co workies of the year, Garrett Wilson,
who I had a chance to meet, who's fantastic player,
and obviously um Sauce Garner at corner. And then if
Breece Hall didn't get hurt, I mean you wouldn't they
would have had people would have had a vote. I mean,
it's just amazing. They're they have a great defense there.

(01:37:22):
There's quarterback away from being a solid playoff to him
that to answer your question, now, they have to they
have a couple moves to make at left tackle. They
got to do something. They can't rely on Backton Dwayne
Brown is near the end of his career at a
bad shoulder. Now they have to figure out right tackle.
But they have a building block in Vera Tucker, who
has been a good story. Like Max Mitchell was a
fourth round pick who played right tack before he got hurt.

(01:37:44):
They have to fortify the offensive line, but they'll do that.
I know Joe Douglas fairly well. They're they're g M.
I know he's he knows what they have to do.
He he hasn't got it right at quarterback, but but
he seemingly he's gotten right everywhere else. All right, two
years ago when the Cheese played the Bucks and they
were crippled offensive tackle, and everyone seemed to say the
same thing, Well, it doesn't really matter because you got

(01:38:05):
my Homes. Like any other team, you would be concerned.
But with the Chiefs, you you're not concerned. And then
we saw the game and he was running for his
life and they got destroyed by the Buccaneers. So you're
going against the defense that sets a record for sacks
and Reddick, as you said, literally seems unblockable these days.

(01:38:26):
How's the Chiefs? How are the Chief's gonna counter? Because
we know that Mahomes is still not a hundred percent.
He's in better ship obviously than was two weeks ago.
So what wrinkles could you see in the Chief's attack
that's gonna enable them to, you know, perform well enough
to come away with a w I know Steve that

(01:38:47):
any read for his entire career, whether it's with the
Eagles or the Chiefs, he doesn't like he wants to
have five eligibles. He doesn't want to keep six he
doesn't want a at an extra offensive I mean, he
just doesn't believe in it. Now they're playing what we
call more twelve personnel, more two tight ends than before.
But you're gonna have to have a plan here because

(01:39:10):
the Eagles will overload one side. They're going to figure
out a way to exploit Andrew Wiley number seventy seven,
the right tackle. When you look at matchups, or Lando
Brown their left tackle. He's a decent player. Just talking
to people in the league, He's okay, not a great athlete.
It's real simple. If these guys could if these guys
get pressured that Mahomes is in trouble, he's he's somewhat elusive,

(01:39:32):
but he's he's one of a scrambler than a runner.
I would really have you bring it up, Steve, And
you're absolutely right. That's the issue right now with this
with the Chief's offense. I know they've they they've kind
of held true to explose the plays compared to last
year with Tyrek Kill, but they've done in a different way.
But you can't do that if you're on a siege
all game. I'm I would be very wared and he's

(01:39:53):
gonna have to swallow his pride. He's gonna have to
help seventy seven widely. That's the guy, Folks, when you
watch the game tomorrow night, watch seventy seven. Andrew Wylie,
the right tackle god, was an undrafted free agent, was
bounced around a little bit, started for a couple of
years for the Chiefs. That's not a good matchup. And
also Josh Sweat wait till you see him, number ninety
four for the Eagles, who was the highest recruited football

(01:40:15):
player in the country when he was in Florida before
when he was in high school, suffered a horrific knee
injury that it came close to losing his leg. Folks,
this is a horrific injury. And then he's rebounded nicely
and now he's one of the better young defensive lineman
in the league. Triffic pass rush on and a good
run defender. So that if you want to know why
they they had seventy sacks, third most in NFL history

(01:40:37):
without blitzing, it's scheme and their ability to break down protection.
And I think that's the thing I've been saying. If
you can roughly you get each team gets three possessions
per quarter, and I said, in order for Philadelphia Eagles
to win this game, they need to steal two of

(01:40:59):
those possessions from Kansas City. You can't match possessions with
someone like Patrick Mahomes. So it's two ways to do that.
You take the ball away, create turnovers. Are you run
the football and you win the you you uh, You
controlled the ball for the majority of the quarters, limiting

(01:41:21):
the time that Patrick Mahomes can be on the field.
What do you think about that? I know some teams
have tried that. It's kind of like with Brady. You
want to limit, but here's things like these, Uncle is
not gonna get the ball when you When he gets
the ball, you gotta stop him. You gotta run your offense.
The Eagles are very aggressive. It's really funny Andy Reid
Kim from Philly where they're one of these teams that
likes to throw the ball early and then run to

(01:41:43):
win the second half of The Eagles do that most
of the most of the time. Every once in a while,
like against Green Bay and a couple other games that
ran the heck out of it just because they got
off to a great start. But I don't expect him
to play keep edge that's not the way Nick Serrianni
would do this. This is I just don't see that,
and neither team believes in doing that. Some team have
tried that, but I don't see that. This should be
a fairly high scoring game. I think it would be

(01:42:05):
pretty aggressive. I expect Kelsey to have a monster game
without Tyreek kill the Eagle. The Chiefs blew out the
Eagle's early last season. I think it was Week three
at Philly. Hurts actually played pretty well, super high scoring game.
Well well, Tyreek Hill destroyed the Eagels, so Kelsey didn't
have a good didn't have to do much. Well, He's
gonna have to do a lot in this game because
they're not as strong at wide receiver. And that's to

(01:42:27):
me sort of the difference when you don't have to
worry about Tyree Hill. When you look at the Chiefs
receiver corps, you go, not a big deal. It's eight
seven Kelsey expecting to be bracketed that that's really you got.
You cannot let him destroy them. And if John Gannon,
the defensive coordinator, sees this, he's got to know you
stop eighty seven the best you can. That's where it starts.

(01:42:47):
Eagles have won two playoff games this year by a
score of team I mean, two blowouts. Now, granted they're
not playing against Patrick Mahomes Himes, are you surprised at
all that, at least according to the odds, this figures
to be a close game because to me, I know

(01:43:09):
what I'm seeing in the Eagles right now, and they
are just I mean, they have the potential to win
big tomorrow based on what I've seen so far in
this It's it's hard to look if you look at
the Chiefs two losses. Uh, well, they have three losses,
but when you look at their most recent losses, they

(01:43:29):
lost three point game against the Bengals in Week thirteen,
they lost by four against Buffalo in Week six. They
it's just hard to imagine that they can get blown
out and it should be a tight game. Again, the
Eagles have the better roster, but the X factors Mahomes,
and they were awful against Mahomes last year. I understand
the defenses. They've got a lot more talented defenses. We

(01:43:51):
just outlined a couple of minutes ago. But what's good.
What the Eagles have to do here if they want
to win, is they have to play true to what
they who they are they if they get down in early,
can't start saying, Okay, well, let's just a bandon what
our game plan is. Ten points isn't is not a lot.
Seventeen is a different story. And and and I know
Andy read pretty well. He's gonna come out throng and

(01:44:12):
he's not gonna stop throwing. They're they're not a running team.
They got Clyde Edwards or Layer back this week, but
he lost his job to Isaiah pa Check with the rookie,
So when they want to run the ball, pa Check
was going to be that guy. But it's gonna be throwing.
Eagles are not a team that covers the tenants super well.
Their numbers look better than they really have done it
because they haven't really faced many good tight ends the season.

(01:44:32):
The way you beat the Eagles and you kind of
nickel and dine, then they they're the best in the
NFL giving of not giving up deep passes. You gotta
take what you get over the middle. And that's why
Kelsey should excel in this game. Yeah, they've only given
up a hundred seventy nine yards a game passing. Yeah,
seventeen games and the over runder O. Mahomes is two
ninety and a half. Um, so it would be hard

(01:44:53):
to do. Look it, it'll be hard, but you got
a nickel and dined that Eagles defense. That's and and
and you can't kick fields either both teams. You cannot
kick field goals. By the way I from I'm watching
Adam there and no one was working harder than him,
I mean the guy. How many interviews did you actually do?
So you did, Steve So you did an interview with
me on sports Grid, which is one of the biggest

(01:45:15):
sports stream of companies in the world. So I think
over thirty Wow, Yeah, I think I think so. Plus
then my my show with my partner Jeff Mosher, we
did Inside the Birds that we probably had about thirty
or forty people there. So yeah, I uh that to
our time drifference from going from eastern and mountain time
didn't hurt me. It actually helped me get a little
bit of sleep. Unbelievable job. Adam. Was great to see you,

(01:45:39):
and we'll do it again. But hey, thank you so much. Man.
Are we gonna do a wrap up with him? We're
gonna have to do next Sunday. Alright, thanks so much. Adam.
We appreciate Adam Catlan. There's our Fox Sports Radio NFL
Inside thirty Interviews. It was just one afternoon. The guy's
a machine getting everybody all ready for this big game.
All right, once again, let's find out what is trendy. Yes,

(01:46:01):
we welcome back great brand Fen Layby Fen. Yeah. I
got to finally meet this guy face to face, Adam
Gap finally. I mean it sounds like you guys have
known each other for years, and obviously you have, but
just the way in which you hit it off, it's
like you've known each other your whole lives. Well, he
just he. I love people and it doesn't matter what

(01:46:22):
the subject matter. I love people that are passionate about something. Right.
It could be anything. Really, I always said this. You know,
people say, what do you listen to? I listened to
a lot of talk radio, and I could actually listen
to if somebody's compelling, and it's obviously their knowledgeable. They
could be talking about a subject I have literally no
interest in. But I'm locked in, you know, and so

(01:46:48):
but Adam, I mean it comes it comes to football, man,
this guy is unbelievable. Well, and Steve, I know that
that you're passionate in that scene by you showing up
to work two hours early. Every one of your radio shifts.
Nobody else does that. I know you, and that shows
your passion. But we love you. So. College basketball and
a loss in overtime for for Duke. That is the
fifth strade overtime loss. And now yeah, they falter this

(01:47:11):
time on the road to number eight Virginia sixty nine
to sixty two John Shires. Duke hees eight and six
in conference place, seventeen and eight overall, number fourteen. Baylor
pushes the front and wins against number seventeen TCU seventy
two to sixty eight Number twenty five San Diego State
e from they one it's over? Are you still nervous?

(01:47:34):
Do you think there's a chance they could still? He's
not happy they have like a twenty point late where
they went the only one by eleven points. I need you,
I need them to finish the games. There you go,
all right, It's not just about the WS, it's how
the WS look. He needs style points. What he's saying
eighty two to seventy one as texts winning there against
you and l V. Also a victory for number three

(01:47:55):
Alabama seventy seven and sixty nine against auburnon comeback fashion.
Number nine can this victorious as well? Over Oklahoma seventy
eight to fifty five games in progress, we do have
Number six Tennessee trailing Missouri at home thirty one to
twenty three. Man there's five forty remaining in the first
half of that one. Number eleven Iowa State in Oklahoma

(01:48:17):
State all square at nineteen in the first and late
in the first Portland's thirteen and fourteen they have a
losing record, up by one against Number fifteen St. Mary's
at twenty six to twenty five, five minutes to play
in that one. And lastly, Number eighteen Indiana down by
seven to Juan Howards Michigan Wolverine, seven twenty seven left

(01:48:37):
in the first half. Lastly, guys, as we transition over
to the NBA, Lebron James is not going to be
playing tonight. He's calling it in the game against the
Golden State Warriors left ankle sore nous and we put
that in air quotes. And then lastly, Russell Westbrook, who
of course was a former teammate of James with the
Lakers and has now been sent to the Jazz as

(01:48:59):
part of that trade before deadline. Now, according to ESPN,
Westbrook isn't really sure what he wants to do. Doesn't
sound like he wants to stay in Utah as far
as his plan. So the team is contemplating negotiating a
buyout with Westbrook and then letting him go where he pleases.
But I from it and Steve, the question is where
would be a destination for him if he does decide

(01:49:20):
to leave. Well, look, I mean, the guy's gonna be
in the Hall of Fame. We know that he wants
a ring, right, I mean, if you're if you're Russell
Westbrook and you can pretty much go anywhere. You got
paid anyway this year, you're gonna get your full forty
seven million. I'm just trying to say, give me, give
me a spot on the bench, even if I'm sitting. Yeah,

(01:49:42):
but that doesn't seem like something he would want to
do just to sit on the bench. He barely wanted
to come off the bench for the Lakers. So just
then I saw the odds he was like the favorite
to win six man in the year. Of course, But
if he goes to another team, do they need to
bring him in? If you if you were a team
like the Celtics. Let's say, right, no, no, no, no,

(01:50:05):
did you hear what he was called? What was it?
In the locker room? And he's like a cancer in
the locker roo. Yeah, it's a problem you don't want
to bring and that's why people are saying we call
him a vampire. Yeah, there is a vampire because he
sucks the blood right out of a locker rooms and
his wife was very upset with that. Well, you don't
want to bring that into your locker room, like you

(01:50:28):
don't want to destabilize your locker room. The payoff, the
reward isn't isn't big enough, it's not good enough. So
basically what you're saying is collect your forty seven million
and make it a day. Well, he's into fashion, so
he can just go really work on his his fashion line.
All right, Let's get to the real business at hand,

(01:50:50):
and that is figuring out which way we are leaning
in terms of Super Bowl fifty seven. So the latest
line in it has not changed. I'm and the Eagles
have won two playoff games by thirty eight to seven
and thirty one to seven, and yet they are a
slight one and a half point favorite against the Chiefs.
The over under in this game is fifty one, so

(01:51:15):
e from give us a score, give us a feel
of what you see once this game is over. I
think it'll be twenty eight to twenty four Eagles, So
they're going to cover the overrunner that's fifty two yea

(01:51:37):
twenty four. So basically what they're saying here, yeah, something
along those like twenty six, twenty four, something like this.
I think it's going under. Oh what do you got one? Eagles?
I can't I when I say twenty four twenty one.

(01:51:58):
I'm hoping. But if the Chief's offensive line cannot hold
off the Eagles, this could get ugly. Yes it can.
This could get ugly real quick. Yeah. I think Philly
will do you know, have a ball control offense. I think, um,

(01:52:20):
they'll dominate the time of possession and I think they'll
they'll you know, it'll bit late Fleury, Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes,
you know, put the ball up in the air. But
I do think Philadelphia is gonna win this one. Well,
let me ask you this though, if my Homes goes
to one and two in Super Bowl. By the way,

(01:52:44):
there's a quarterback that has would have almost the exact
same resume, one and two in super Bowls with two
regular season m VP awards. You know what that quarterback is,
Kurt Warner? Hall of fame, Hall of fame. Well, there's
no doubt my homes me a Hall of Fame. Yeah,
but that's not what he's shooting for here. His Hall

(01:53:05):
of Fame status is already secure. What is what he
is trying to do is going for Goat can't be
losing super Bowls. No, he's got to win. This is
his opportunity. This if he goes down and throws for
four hundred yards and four touchdowns and the chief's wind
going away, Yeah we got action. Now your stock goes

(01:53:30):
through the stratosphere. Yeah, we got action. When I closed
my eyes, can I see that? I can't see that.
I just keep seeing Hassan Reddick. Well, what was the
forty Niner strategy against him? Like him? Block him, h
backs and tight ends. So it was a terrible, terrible
game plan. What was going on there? They lost two

(01:53:53):
quarterbacks because of Yes, their quarterbacks were getting destroyed quarterbacks
because of that. YEAHS and Tess are gonna have to
do their homework here, because if I'm sure he gets loose.
Look out, I'm this this could go ugly real quick. Alright,
I'm sure he knows the thing or two about these games.

(01:54:14):
The question is does he know enough to come away
with the victory in tomorrow's matchup? Alright? Final word on
everything going on with tomorrow's Super Bowl Keep it right here.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio Steve Hartman and
he from Salam Once again. This is Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio, and we are live from the tire Rack
dot Com studios. I want to thank the crew today,
Chris jumping in after iowas Sam left, I gotta figure

(01:54:37):
out what we're gonna do tomorrow five hours on that
pregame show. Then I have to have some nourishment. Churs
the great Brian Finley, always bringing us updated on everything
trending out there. And we had dual producers today. Ryan
was here first and both snuck in and uh, well,

(01:54:58):
I gotta ask you, bo, I know, I know your
allegiance for tomorrow's game. Um, are you nervous at all
about the Eagles in any way? No? I mean why why?
I mean they've won two games in the playoffs by
thirty eight to seven and thirty one to seven. I mean,
these are blow us. Like, granted, you're going against Daniel

(01:55:20):
Jones and then you literally against a team they had
no quarterback and this is Mahomes. But I'm trying to
figure out why the line is holding at a point
in a half because everyone I spoke to in Phoenix
is picking the Eagles. I didn't see. I didn't hear
one person picking the Cheese to win this game. It's
kind of weird. I mean, I'm not nervous because I think,

(01:55:41):
like this is the most inoffensive super Bowl I think
in recent memory, like both of these organizations have such
respect for each other, Like you had Travis Kelsey and
Jason Kelsey doing podcasts, you know, during the week together,
and they're gonna be playing not against each other, They're
gonna be playing against each other on Sunday. So I
don't I just don't think there's any animosity. So I think, like, oh,

(01:56:01):
whoa whoa, whoa whoa. Like Syrian, he said he was
upset that fired him when he took over as the
coach of the Chiefs. He had been on that staff
for four years and and he read deemed that he
was worthless, uh and didn't belong on and Andy Reid
staff Syrian, he can be mad. I guess that's fine.
I just myself personally, like if the Eagles lose the game,

(01:56:22):
I'll be upset for like an hour and then I'll
kind of just go on. I like Andy Reid too much,
and I'm too invested in Patrick Mahomes stacking up accolades.
So we can stop calling Tom Brady the goat at
some point. But Boa, what do you Rob Parker? So
I say, I mean I saw Rob there, right, and

(01:56:43):
and yeah, he's not shaking on his uh statement that
cheaters don't belong in the Hall of Fame. That's why
baseball keeps cheating hall of Fame and Tom Brady is
a cheater and doesn't belong. I'm a woman, of course.
Rob is doing stand up these days as well. So
I think I'm moving to Mexico. Yes, exactly, you're supposed to,

(01:57:06):
um no, I I And then and then he had
Jerry Jones talking about this Eagles team saying, well, basically
they just built for one year. Yeah that was so
good that I I love the Cowboys. They're building for
the future. Cowboys seven straight years without making it to
the Conference. It doesn't. It doesn't even make sense. And

(01:57:28):
I did you see, like Jeffrey Larry called Jimmy Johnson
to ask him what exactly Jerry Jones was trying to say,
and Jimmy Johnson had no idea, no idea. Yeah, like that.
I I love Jerry Jones. I hope he gets stown
the Cowboys forever, Like if we can do the Futurama
thing where we can put his head in a jar
after he passes away, and like let him keep running
the team please by all means. You know. Even when

(01:57:49):
I were talking about this, and I thought Evan brought
up a great point when he said, the spotlight with
the Cowboys is always the face. Everything's Jerry Jones. It's
not the coach, it's not the quarterback, it's none of that.
It's a little bit of the quarterback. But the quarterback
has a ceremonial role of being like a sacrificial goat,
which takes all the blame every time they blame out

(01:58:11):
of that. Yeah, but we did it with Tony Romo,
now we're doing it with Dak Prescott. He's a blame
for flaming out of the postseason. But but at the
same time, Jerry Jones is doing the exact same thing
with Dak Prescott that he was doing with Tony Romo,
where suddenly he's apologizing for the fact that, well, it's
not his fault. All of a sudden, he's become, you know,
at least publicly, the biggest Dak Prescott fan out there,

(01:58:32):
when everyone else is saying, to big it, Jerry's gonna
draft Max dug And I bet you more than anything
that Jerry's gonna draft Max Duggan in the draft this year.
And there's gonna be an impromptu quarterback controversy in Dallas.
Fort Worth, kid, I mean to throw Kellen Moore under
the bus? I mean, are you truly truly insane to

(01:58:54):
let Mike McCarthy call plays like That's? By the way,
is there any doubt in our mind that that high
school play at the end of that game wasn't a
Mike McCarthy draw like that. Kelly Moore didn't come up
with that, No, no, absolutely not. All right, So what
do you guys say, Chris Switcher, score tomorrow? What do
you got? I'm gonna go twenty seven, twenty four Eagles,

(01:59:15):
twenty four? I have one Eagles, all right? But what
about you. I've got twenty not even a game. Well
we'll see now. Of course, we got a long way
to go before we get to kickoff. So my recommendation,
I know V J. M. Martiner were getting ready to go.
