Why we are counting down to the men's Final Four
as we get ready for the first matchup between San
Diego State and Florida Atlantic. We're about two hours away
on tip off of that game in Houston, followed of
course by Yukon and a Miami. I don't know about you, Bucky,
(00:44):
but a Final Four Saturday, Semifinal Saturday, in my book,
is one of the best sports days of the year.
It is a great day. If you're a basketball fan,
of college basketball fan, you love this. This is a
culmination of what is always typically a great tournament. There
(01:06):
is nothing like March madness. There's nothing like watching people
kind of navigate through a single elimination tournament that ultimately
determines the champion of college basketball, and so even though
you're gonna have all these great things happen during the
regular season, you can be undefeated all throughout. In a
one and done scenario, you never know what can happen.
That's so exciting about it. Well, what makes this year
(01:27):
unique is the fact that three of these four schools, Miami,
San Diego State, in Florida Atlantic have never been to
the Final four. Yukon, of course it's been a while,
but nine years since their last run culminated with a
championship back in twenty fourteen. So for these coaches, Jim
Larnego obviously the Miami coach was there way back in
the day with George Mason back in OZ six. But
(01:48):
this is a new experience. A lot of times you're
going to get teams they're gonna go to back to
back final fours, and it's not that, but the final
four experience. And I've been very privileged over the years.
I've over fifteen, i believe, final fours over the course
of my career, and it is an incredible atmosphere. It's
very different than the Super Bowl. I mean the Super
(02:08):
Bowl you have two teams, but when you go to
a Final four, and you got the fans of each
of these four schools and they're all gathered taking on
all the activities. I love watching the practices leading up
to the final four games. I don't know. I wouldn't
say it's better than Super Bowl. It's different, but it's
on par in terms of, Hey, if you are a
(02:32):
diehard sports fan, if you're a basketball fan and you
have a chance to sort of take part in that
Final Four experience, I say thumbs up, Yeah, thumbs up.
I mean, it's a big basketball festival. It is everything
that you want to experience as the pagentry of college sports.
It's the pressure and the excitement and exhilaration of a
(02:54):
championship environment. And you have an opportunity if you do
the full Final four weekend. I mean, you get a
chance to see like three great games. You get to
see the semifinals, and then you see the finals because
there's no more consolation game, the more third place game.
To show how far back I go. In nineteen eighty
when I was there sports out of the Daily bruin
ucl ag AINNY in the championship game, it was the
next to last year they had a third place game. Wow,
(03:18):
before the championship game. There was an actual third place game.
They wisely got rid of that. All right, Hey, I
want to I want to jump in right off the
top here. We got a ton of things to talk
about today. Obviously leaning up to the games. Got a
very exciting matchup for the women's championship between Iowa and LSU.
We're going to get into that big matchup. We got
(03:42):
some NBA news as were coming down to the stretch
of the season. We got baseball starting, and obviously a
lot of NFL news. But today they announced the class,
the latest class or the Naysmith Memorial Hall of Fame,
the Basketball Hall of Fame, and it included some of
the biggest names out there. I mean, you got Dirt
Navitsky and Dwayne Wade and Tony Parker and Paugas Saul
(04:03):
and Gregg Popovich. I mean, there's some of the biggest
names in NBA history. In fact, one of the inductees
was a team. It's the only Hall of Fame I
know that actually puts teams in, and they included the
nineteen seventy six women's Olympic basketball team. And I texted
a dear friend of mine, An Myers, the great Hall
(04:25):
of Fame basketball player who was a member of that team,
congratulating on her on her second election to the Nasmith
Basketball Hall of Fame. But here is my frustration with
the basketball Hall of Fame. So the basketball Hall of Fame,
there is a women's basketball Hall of Fame separate, there
(04:45):
is a separate international basketball Hall of Fame. There's a
separate college basketball Hall of Fame. You know what, There's
not an NBA Hall of Fame. There's no such thing.
When people say, oh, Dwaine Waite just got elected to
the NBA Hall of Fame, there is no such thing
as the NBA Hall of Fame. So when you have
(05:05):
a Greg Popovich elected to the same Hall of Fame
as a guy named Jane Bess who has coached at
the junior college level his entire coaching career, I'm sorry,
something is amiss and this is no disrespect to great
international stars, certainly the women college, junior college, high school.
(05:28):
Whatever the idea having one hall of fame all inclusive,
where the likes of a you know, Dirk Navitsky is
sharing a hall of fame with a David Hickson who
is a Division three basketball coach, does not make sense
to me. In football, you have a pro football Hall
of Fame, you have a college football Hall of Fame.
(05:49):
You wouldn't have a Hall of Fame where Ty Demer
would be in the same hall of famous Tom Brady, right.
Ty Demer was one of the great college quarterbacks of
all time, different sports. So this has always been frustrating
to me about the NBA and their Hall of Fame.
They don't have a Hall of Fame and I and
I really wish, with due respect, having been an NBA
(06:12):
fan long before it was cool to be an NBA fan,
that they would actually have an NBA Hall of Fame.
In fact, I'm gonna throw this at you. I've had
a ten person inaugural class for the NBA Hall of Fame.
Now I would be older, obviously, but these are the
ten names I came up for what I would say
would be the inaugural class, and then you could do
(06:34):
maybe five inductees and start catching up. The first ten
would be the two biggest stars at the beginning of
the NBA Hall of Fame NBA were George Mike and
and Bob Kuzy. So those two names I would put
Will Chamberlain and Bill Russell. I would put Oscar Robertson
and Jerry West. I would have Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Larry Bird,
Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. Those would be my first
(06:56):
ten inductees because you know the Kobe's don't they come
after that. So those would be my like my inaugural class.
And I'm leaving up old timers like elgim Baylor and
Bob Petty. Hey don't have Doctor Jay and I'm sorry
he doesn't know Doctor Jay and I love Doctor Jay,
but I'm telling you he doesn't like my first ten.
(07:19):
Which one of those would you knock out for Doctor Jay?
Doctor Jay doesn't go in Wow, well he does, but
he's he's not in that first class. I mean Doctor Jay,
Elgrim Baylor. I mean, look at that second class. I
mean look at the look at the names. But there
isn't this. This is like when I look at the
gene Katie. You know, he's a fine coach and produce.
Never even made a final four, never made a Final four,
(07:44):
and he's in the Hall of Fame. Okay, No, I
mean he wanted Mallion games. Now he coach a long time.
You're gonna win a lot of game. I don't I
don't know what I don't know understand. I'm gonna look
at this list. I mean, what are we looking at here?
Gary Blair? Can we tilled the story of basketball without
Gene Katie? Dude? That Katie do? Yeah? But I mean,
(08:08):
Gene Katy, why isn't Lou Henson in? Then if you
really want to go to some LAG ten coaches out there,
because if you're gonna go, then go with one. You
gotta go with the other. In terms of all right, look,
college basketball should have and does have a separate Hall
of Fame. This is a crazy thing. You wouldn't lump football.
You wouldn't put great minor league baseball players in the
(08:30):
baseball Hall of Fame, right, He would have had to
play some level of major league baseball to get in.
But I mean this Gene Bess winning his coach at
any level. He's a he's a junior college coach, he's
not even a Division three coach, and he's now in
the same Hall of Fame as Greg Popovich. Famer. I
think they have to read Jack. So this doesn't bother
(08:52):
you the way it bothers me. It doesn't bother me.
I mean it's it's still Hall of Fame. I mean
the Hall of Fames. Yeah, I don't know what you're
talking about. Just I wish the NBA had a Hall
of Fame. I mean, do you get mad at what
the stars the Hollywood? Well, I mean that there's some
of those you hear, some of those that you believe
we should pull up the star, even all the stars.
(09:12):
By the way, I was there for Jim Hills induction
ceremony when he got his star in the Hollywood Walk
of Fame. I was there. It was a very exciting day.
I mean it would be a very exciting time. I
would be exciting. Yea, if someone granted me a star,
I would want to walk on Hollyward never started, like
you wouldn't want to do that, Like, I mean, they
have to call you like a Hall of Famer forever. So,
my man, that you over there disparaging the junior college
coach or the Gene Bass, I'm not disparaging him. Coach
(09:36):
Gene Bass should not actually be in the same Hall
of Fame as Greg pop of it. It's two different sports.
Gene Katie doesn't belong in the same He's a college
basketball coach. Would you say there's a difference between college
basketball and professional bass. There is a difference. And I'm
glad that they put Pop in now because if Pop
continues to coach, the more he coaches without Tim Ducking
(09:56):
and David Robinson, the heart is going to be hard
this year. They want that, They want that giant kid,
my God, to build their future round back in the day.
All right, so we got a lot to ground to
cover here. We're gonna get into obviously, these matchups coming
up later on today Florida Atlantic. By the way, no
team ever seeded nine or lower has ever made it
(10:19):
to the championship game. Back your Tar Heels tied the
record last year as an eight seed getting to a
championship game. Miami and Yukon. We got those matchups coming
up as well. This is Fox Sports Saturday. Fox Sports

All right, this is Jay Glazer. And you may know
me for the world of football or fighting or even
shows like HBO's Ballers. Well you don't know is for
my entire life. I have lived in something I referred
to as the gray depression anxiety. So now I'm coming
out with a new podcast, Unbreakable, a mental health podcast
(11:04):
with Jay Glazer where each week, well we talk about
mental health. I hope to describe it, give it words.
Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Steve Harman,
(11:24):
Bucky Brooks, this is Fox Sports Saturday. We are coming
alive from the tai Iraq dot com studios and yes,
we are getting ready for a big Final four day.
San Diego State taken on Florida Atlantic and Yukon taken
on the University of Miami at Florida. The you getting
into the Final four for the first time. So a
(11:46):
lot of basketball to talk about here today, Bucky, and again,
the San Diego State team is a little different for
me than a lot of people because I was part
of the San Diego State Radio brock Gast for like
eight years, the radio home of the Aztecs, and A've
really seen Brian Dutcher taken over the program from Steve Fisher,
(12:09):
building his own identity. This is a guy, by the way,
as they get ready to take on Florida Atlantic, who
has Final Four experience. He was on the bench as
an assistant coach at the University of Michigan when they
won a championship in nineteen eighty nine, and of course
the Fab five back to back title losses against Duke
and North Carolina back in ninety two and ninety three,
(12:31):
So this is not foreign territory for him. But I've
been looking at the San Diego State team, Bucky, and
I'm thinking to myself, if you're looking for a formula
for building a successful college basketball program and this day
and age, take a look at what San Diego State
has done. They've been able to do it through a
(12:52):
transfer portal. They get a couple of freshmen in there.
They're most likely going to stay multiple years in the program.
They have a nine man rotation, Bucky, where everyone plays
anywhere between twenty six, twenty seven and sixteen minutes per game.
They're very set on their lineup. They haven't had any injuries.
Four of these nine guys to play for San Diego
(13:12):
State are playing in their fifth full year. That's not
a red shirt year. I'm talking about Hey played five
full years at the collegiate level. So this, to me
is now the model. We look at Duke this year,
they had three of the top five high school players
in the country from a year ago. They didn't even
make it to the sweet sixteen. If you want to
(13:35):
be successful in this day and age, name, image and likeness,
transfer portal San Diego State can show you the way.
Because this is a mid major school and this is
not accidental. They are men, this is an older team,
and you saw them against Alabama and some of these
other schools. They just looked more mature on the court.
(13:55):
And I'm wondering, because you know, everyone's a copycat, doesn't
matter the sport, how many how many coaches out there,
even in the major programs, are going to take note
not only what Sandy because State did, Florida, Atlantic, Yukon
completely rebuilt their program. What the universe is minami is
done to get to this year's Final four. Yeah, I mean,
I think that's the blueprint. When you look at all
these teams, the teams that are having success, other teams
(14:17):
that are the older teams, and if you have to
get into the transfer portal to pluck out some graduate
transfers or some older transfers, you have to be willing
to do that. It puts the pressure on the coaching
staff to rebuild the team and make sure the connuity
and connectivity is there each and every season. But you're
seeing the older teams, the teams with that are loaded
(14:38):
with grown men playing against the high school people. The
high school guys, they're wearing them out. And given how
the game has become increasingly more physical, there is a
difference between that old man strength and these new kids
on the block. Oh, no doubt about it. So these
are this is, like I said, a lot of people
are dismissing. This year is just one of those weird
years where we really didn't have a number one team
(15:01):
all season long. A lot of teams rotated after your
tar Heels gave it up early in the season, and
you know, and suddenly we're looking at schools that have
ever been there before. But I got word out to
the Dukes and the North Carolinas and the UCLAs and
the Kansas Is and the Kentucky's out there, the one
and done route, it's not going to work anymore. I
(15:23):
just don't think. I think it's that is not the
formula for say. It worked for a while and maybe
you get that, you know, over the top talent, like
when Anthony Davis was at Kentucky and won a national championship.
But I just don't think that's the way to go anymore. No,
I don't think. I don't think you can do it
like that anymore. I think it's too hard. Maybe you
can gets lightening the bottle. But for your team to
(15:46):
do this, for the young guys to be able to
kind of gel together, learn how to play high level
basketball against these older teams quickly, you're just going to
have to be more talented than everybody. And I just
don't know over the course of a long and a
six game tournament where you have to be on your
be at your best each and every week, I just
(16:07):
don't I don't know if you can get it done
with a real young team. Now, coaches have a big
part in this, no question about that, and we've seen
it over the years. Certain coaches know this formula for success.
In this tournament, tom Izzo did it again. I mean
he was the only one of those Big ten schools,
the eighth that made the tournament to get even too
the sweet sixteen. But for this group, especially a guy
(16:28):
like Jim Larenega. You know, Bucky as a coach yourself,
you understand that constant challenge to connect with young people.
I mean, you're out there connecting with high schoolers. You know,
this is a seventy three year old coach, one of
the few coaches ever to coach three different Division One
programs for at least a decade each. Larenega has been
(16:49):
around forever. But you see him in that locker room.
These players love him, They play for him, they listen,
they connect with this guy. Do you have to as
a coach, and every year is different because you have
a different personality with each team, especially when we're talking
about the high school and the college level, do you
(17:10):
almost have to sort of test the room? Maybe in
some ways, I wouldn't say reinvent yourself and maybe modify
what you do for that individual team to make sure
that you're all connected. I think you have to do
a good job of being a great communicator, and you
have to be able to be honest and clear in
your communication with the players. You have to tell them
(17:32):
exactly where they stand. You have to be able to
give them a clear understanding of their role, and you
have to be willing to lose some of those players
when you tell them the truth. The one thing that
you want your players to be able to do is
no matter what, no matter how much it hurts, you
want them to at least be able to say, well,
you know what, I didn't like it, but coach is
honest with me. He told me exactly what it was,
(17:53):
and I can live with that. And that's the main thing.
And you know, like people to talk about, oh, the
kids so coddled and I led, and how much has changed.
It changed to a point, but there was always something,
you know, there was always favoritism or treatment or just
our players got leeway in those things. So you've always
had to navigate some envy within the team. Now you
(18:16):
just have to deal with deal with the money. It's
a money factor in terms of who gets what and
all those other things. But your job as the coaches
make sure that everyone understands exactly how they fit into
the puzzle, and then to make sure that you can
be build the best puzzle that you can build with
the resources that you have at your disposal. Well, tom
Azo recently was on a show after they got eliminated,
and he's frustrated. I mean there's an old school coach.
(18:38):
I mean, he's not gonna change his strike, so he's
gonna have to if he wants to continue to have
a certain level of success at the end of the year.
It used to be, all right, maybe we've got a
guy that's going to opt out for the NBA. You know,
that would be the most serious thing. Is all right,
we're going to get some underclassmen they're looking at the NBA.
We're going to give him a chance to you know,
sort of scout it out, and they feel like they
(18:58):
want to drop out of the program. So it that's
not where we are now. Now the question is I
could lose anybody on my team because if another school
comes in and offers a more attractive name, image, likeness package,
they're gonna leave. So then all of a sudden, you
(19:19):
got to annie up the money, so you start a value.
I mean UCLA to me as a prime example of
this this year. I'm using UCLA as an example because
you have two guys that were you know, you know,
a dem Bona and Amari Bailey who potentially are one
and done guys unless you make an attractive offer to
(19:42):
have them stay at UCLA. The idea being we can
give you money with name, image and likeness. That would
be better money than if you were a late first,
early second round pick in the NBA. Look, if you're
a top ten pick or top five pick, you know
you're gonna go, But if you're not, it could actually
benefit you financially to stay, to stay another year. Didn't
(20:04):
North Carolina just get one of their big stars to
stay another year? Andrew Baycock Ye stayed again. That didn't
come cheap. It did not. His nil has been popping
the last couple of years. He's done a really good
job of that. He's staying, getting his masters and NBA
and all that other stuff. And so it does work
out for some. And I think what people have to
(20:26):
understand what hopefully the young people that are affording these opportunities,
you're doing it. When you stay longer in college, it
gives you a chance to get closer to graduated. And
you want most of these guys to get the degree,
because it's only a handful of guys that are gonna
make it to the NBA. And I know everyone who
thinks they shooting a jump shot and doing those things
that I'm going to the next leve I'm going to
play in the NBA and going overseas. They're only a
(20:46):
handful of jobs, and so this can't just be your
life's work just to play basketball. And so Niel should
afford these guys an opportunity to not only stick around
and play great basketball or football or whatever, but it
gets closer closer to complete your education and maybe evening
have an opportunity to get a graduate level degree. So
on Monday, I was out at the red carpet opening
(21:08):
of Air in Los Angeles, my dear friend Sonny McCarroll,
of course, being portrayed by Matt Damon the movie. Ben
Affleck plays Phil Knight. It's getting rave reviews. I mean,
it's got a huge following already and it's going to
be one of the big blockbuster movies of the AARI
open publicly this week. But I saw there Ed Obannon,
So Ed O'Bannon was there, was Sonny mccarrow, And I've
(21:32):
known it for a number of years. In fact, when
Ed came out of UCLA, I'll never forget, I had
him on my radio show and I told him, if
you're drafted by the Clippers or the Nets, tell him
you're not home, and unfortunately he got drafted by the
Nets and his NBA career went nowhere in a really
bad organization at that time. But I talked to a
(21:53):
little bit near the red carpet, and I was laughing
because it was his lawsuit against the NCAA, the name,
image and likeness lawsuit that Sonny McCarroll backed up, that
really led to where we are today. And I asked it, ed,
do you feel like all these millions of dollars that
(22:15):
these college athletes are making now through name, image and
likeness that you should get a little kick back, Because
if it hadn't been for your lawsuit, we might not
be here right now. Somebody had to start the ball
rolling and say enough is enough. And this was Ed
O'Bannon back in the day. Wouldn't award winter National Champion
(22:36):
at UCLA And he's seeing video games using in his
likeness and he's getting nothing. The nca owns my likeness
for life. Are you kidding me? The schools can sell
Ed O'Bannon jerseys forever and I don't get anything, not
a cent challenge that put names on the back of
(22:58):
the jerseys back then they did. Yeah, it was it
was low. Right, it wasn't high like it was always different. Yeah,
And and back in the day, you could sell those
jerseys with the name on the back and they would
get no kick back at all. So when I asked
him whether or not he should get maybe a share
of some of this name image like this, uh money,
(23:18):
he smiled. Let's put it that way. He smiled. But
he's super and uh he Hey, I watched him at
Artisia High School. That's how far back I go. With
Ed O'Bannon's brother, Charles, you should have seen this, seen
James Hart's high school too, right, Yeah, you should have
seen Ed in high school every because you know this
when you see a high school super talent. He was
(23:39):
the kind of guy where he would go down the court,
he'd do whatever he wanted to do. You want to
go to the hoop, go to the hoop. You want
to pull for jumper, pull for jumper. He wanted to
do it. It did me. He was absolutely unstoppable. So
it's it's amazing how things have changed. And I will
say this, and we've talked about what college football as well, Bucky.
This is a good thing. If you're a college sports fan,
(24:01):
it's going to keep your stars longer, and that's what
you want to see. You don't want anybody bailing. In fact,
we're going to talk about another star that it might
actually stay an extra year. On the other side, we're

what is trending right now? What is going on? So
much baseball? But whoa, whoa what what? Monsey Hi Mons
is here on a Saturday? I am here on a Saturday. Yeah,
(24:43):
I mean, Moncy, we have a Sunday tradition obviously, yes,
And uh, you know you went through your first NFL season, right, Yeah,
it was quite a challenge. Yeah, I quit several times,
but I'm still here. Yeah. The first couple of weeks
we got ten games and it's crazy. But here you
are in a Saturday. How did this even happen? Brian
(25:03):
Fenley was unable to work and so I was asked,
and when you know, I had no reason to say no. Yes, yeah, yes,
it is a good thing. Yes, I'm a big believer
in Yes, so here I am and I'm happy to
be hanging out with you guys on Saturday. Yeah, Sighting
Day with the Final four, right, But to tie you
up to see how connected this all is, you guys
(25:24):
were talking about James Harden Artesia High School. I went
to gar which is very close to Artisa High School.
I saw James Harden play. Were the same age, so
their team beat my team, my boys team, but I
watched him playing at the time, I was like, this
guy's supposed to be the start. This guy Oh okay,
Like you know, you see them so young, you really
don't know what they're gonna do. But I remember watching
(25:47):
James Harden at Artisia playing against our boys and our
boys lost. Wow. Yeah, no ed abandoned or Artisa. Oh
you know, there very few times I've seen a high
school basketball player like, oh yeah, that guy that's a star.
Yeah no, yeah, he definitely stood out, Yeah for sure,
like compared to everyone else, he definitely stood out. But
(26:09):
a lot of baseball and there's like a lot of
scoring going on, which is like, oh, maybe the shift
is working. So much scoring is going on, and I
love it. The White Sox and the Asstros are tied
at three apiece bottom of the seventh inning. The Cardinals
have been on top of the Blue Jay's the whole game.
They still are three to one. Bottom of the eighth inning.
The Bruise had taken the lead over the Cubs. They
were tied. Now they're up three to one. Top of
(26:30):
the ninth inning. The Braves wasted no time. Ronald Lacuna
Junior hit a home run first batter of the day.
Matt Olson, second batter hit a home run. No time
wasted at all by the Braves. They're up to zero
top of the third inning against the Nationals. Rangers beating
the Phillies two zero, felt to enter the bottom of
the second inning. The Yankees just scored against the Giants
Woo won zero bottom of the first inning. Orioles on
(26:52):
top of the Red Sox three zero. Top of the
second inning, Rays beating the Tigers one zero bottom of
the second inning. Twins up on the Royals one zero,
also bottom of the second inning. And the Pirates and
the Reds are tied at one a piece bottom of
the first inning. And there's other games going on that
are scoreless, but so much scoring is going on. I
love it in the NFL. Let's see what you guys
think about this. So I read the report. It came
(27:14):
out first CBS Sports that an anonymous NFL owner spoke
to Front Office Sports. So now I read the Front
Office Sports article. The NFL is considering expanding and adding
more franchises, and they're looking to do it outside of
the US, possibly creating a four team European division. And this,
(27:35):
I cannot wait to get him this. I mean, this
has been thrown out there before. The logistics, to me,
are an absolute nightmare. And this owner said, it's happenings.
They said there, it's going to happen. Yes, money talks.
If they lay out enough money to put together a
four team European division, it's going to happen, yes, he said,
(28:00):
But then two to five years, I'm gonna put it
past something. All right, Well, that's good stuff, Thank you
very much. We will check in with you a little
bit later on. All right, I'll save that because that
there's a lot of meat on the bone on that one,
because we've been hearing some rumors about that. We're talking
about name, image and likeness sort of holding in the
college game together, and it's not just men's basketball or football,
(28:25):
women's basketball. So Caitlin Clark did the unthinkable yesterday, leading
her Iowa Hawkeyes to an upset win over defending champions
South Carolina. Undefeated this year, back to back championships was
like done. They were going to win back to back
national championships and Iowa pull the upset with Caitlin Clark,
(28:46):
the national player that you're just going off for forty
one points. It was an amazing performance. And I dare
say when she is really hitting on all cylinders offensively.
I even told this to our dear dear friend Iowa Sam.
She might actually be the best shooter of the basketball
(29:09):
men or women at the collegiate level right now. Her
ability to actually shoot the basketball is remarkable. I mean,
she is a machine. She's a monster. She can get
a shot, she can catch and shoot, she can get
off the balance. She's a great passer. She's one of
the more complete basketball players that I've seen. And her
ability to control the action not only as a score,
(29:30):
but as a passer and a sister enables this offense
to play at a high level. It's gonna be fantastic
to watch her play against LSU because the one thing
that we now know they don't get the best of
Lashu because they have everybody's attention to have to knocking
off South Carolina in a game that many of us
didn't think Iowa can win. Yeah, it's great to watch her.
(29:52):
It's great to watch her slave dragons. Lets see if
she can slay another one on Sunday. Well, speaking of name,
image and likeness, So she's already played three years at Iowa,
but she gets potentially an extra year because of the
COVID year. Everyone has that option Iowa Sam. She's even
hinted that she may stay for two more years at Iowa.
(30:12):
So what kind of all money is she making? Her
she's gonna make, I mean, she's if they if they've
finished this off. I mean, I don't know if it's
even necessary. Her star powers already there. But what kind
of money are we talking about here? I'm millions right, yeah,
I think right now she's making six figures. But I
don't I don't think she'd try. I mean, she's making
(30:34):
a good amount of money at Iowa. The attendance that
they outdraw the men, I mean, I think they set
a big ten record for women's basketball is like first
time since ninety seven ninety eight Wisconsin team in terms
of attendance levels. So, I mean she's from the state.
I wouldn't see her leaving. I mean I would love
to see you know what, Jerja, I would love to
see you. Yeah, I would love to see in a
Yukon jersey. I would. I would just love to see
(30:56):
her play for Yukon. But I else, she's already done.
The the underdog you can hurry him and you kin
had a down here. There's a streak of fourteen straight
Final four they need napped. The Yukon can take you
take a back seat for a couple of years. The
Iowa is kay and Clark. Clark is Iowa. She's from
Des Moines. She's a hometown hero's great all right, So
(31:16):
so her star power at Iowa. When you think of
Iowa sports, it really starts. So now Kinnick, the Heisman
Trophy winner back in the day. He was killed tragically
in World War Two. So his legend is there, the
stadiums named after him, everything else where. Does Cayton win
Clark if they win this game tomorrow, if they wrap
up a national championship in the lexicon of Iowa sports stars.
(31:39):
Where is she? I think that she'd probably be number two.
I don't think, yeah, I don't think you're gonna tie
Nile Kinnick. I don't think you're gonna surpass him. But
for a women's basketball player to be number two over
like Chuck Long and you know, a whole number number
two and number two, she's not number one. Well, you know,
it's a Heisman Trophy winner, and you know that's a
(32:02):
really good student, and it was killed during World War Two. Great,
I appreciate that. Like and him playing in the thirties,
it's kind of ads the Lord. Have you ever heard
his Heisman's speech? It's you can hear it. It's yeah,
like r to believe this was a twenty one year
old Yeah, giving squad to Garret. I mean, he was
dropping off. We were talking about future president now Kenning,
I understand it. You're talking about right now. I think
(32:22):
it's twenty five years from now. In the future. We'll see,
we'll see, especially what if she does if she wins
championships at the w NBA. But I mean she she
needs to stay at Iowa because she might go to
a team in the w NBA. That's kind of obscure,
and they don't have a lot of fans to show up.
They don't have a lot of money, and they see
the w NBA. She's making a ton of money. Right
(32:43):
there was there was one year. Now you make an endorsement,
money makes money. But you know you're right, you're right,
But i w NBA. There's a reason why even the
biggest w NBA stars are playing overseason everywhere else when
the w MBAs NBA season, it's it's about money. There
was one time I remember, but this is going back
(33:03):
in the day when David Stern was still the commissioner
of the NBA, where the w NBA players were basically
going to go on strike to get more money, and
Stern ended that strike before it even happened by just
simply telling them this, if you go on strike, we
will extinguish the league immediately. Another it's the only reason
there is a w NBA is because we are nice
(33:25):
enough to have a w NBA. You're not making money
for us, you're not generating revenue, so out of the
kindness of our own heart, we have a w NBA.
That was their argument, and then quickly that was all dissolved.
But these women can make plenty of money, and certainly
someone like Caitlin Clark can do that with name, admission, likeness,
(33:45):
and Steve I think that when she gets to w NBA,
she's going to help boost their numbers as well. Well,
I look at I've always looked at Candice Parker to
me as the ultimate so when she was at the
University of Tennessee and I and maybe it's not fair,
but women are judged by appearance a lot of times,
and Cannas Parker was not only the best basketball player
in the country, she was a beautiful woman. And so
(34:08):
I thought to myself, if you can't market her Cannas Parker,
if you can't figure out how to take the w
NBA to the next level with someone that literally checks
every box like a Cannas Parker. But even Cannas, as
great as her career has been, and she continues to
flourish as a commentator, it still hasn't taken the w
(34:31):
NBA to that next level, you know what I mean?
It's for us, Yeah, Well, I just think a lot
of little girls look at Caitlyn Clark and they kind
of sure they see someone they couldn't say. I love
the fact that there is a w NBA and has
a thirty year history. Now, did Cannons Parker ever shoot
as smooth as Caitlyn Clark? No great player. I do
(34:51):
remember her dominate. She was player of the Year in
Tennessee playing for Pat Summon and everything else. Superstar talent.
But I just remember, you know, watching her career, thinking wow,
I mean, if you can't market this girl. Yeah, the
numbers that she was, the viewership numbers in college when
she was at Tennessee, I mean, they don't compare to
what Iowa is drawing and with the women's game has
(35:13):
exploded this year in viewership, Like millions of people are
watching it and a lot of people are about it. Yeah.
By the way, Ellis, you was already telling Iowa, don't
think you're going to get away with that garbage defense
tried against South Carolina. Disrespect Yeah, when you just let
them through them, we will destroy you if you try
that defense against us. So they're talking, they're talking trash,
(35:35):
wide open, disrespectful self chick. By the way, did you
think that Iowa got an unfair advantage being more physical
with South Carolina than South Carolina? Was allowed to have
against Iowa. I thought that, I'll just say that, I
thought the officiating was a little it was unsteady at times,
it was inconsistent. It was a little ticky tack. South
Carolina loses their best defensive player for the whole second. Yeah,
(35:57):
they they you know, Eliah Boston had two fouls early on,
and you know, so you know they fishiiting was a
little real sketch. Yeah, that was a little sketch. Once again,
We're coming alive from the ti irac dot com studios,
all right, coming up on the other side, NBA's coming
down the stretch, and we got one story that is
almost laughable to share. Coming up next, Steve Harman, Bucky Brooks,
(36:21):
Fox Sports Saturday, Coming alive from the ti iraq dot
com studios, Rolling an hour away, a little over an
hour away tip off San Diego State and Florida Atlantic,
followed by Yukon and Miami, which two teams will end
up in Monday's National Championship Game. NBA coming down the
stretch right now, are down to like the last five
or six games so the regular season, and Bucky, really
(36:44):
the big question is we're heading toward the playoffs in
the NBA, is can superstars essentially take off the entire
regular season, just show up for the playoffs and still
lead their team to a championship, whether it's a Kevin
Durant in Phoenix or the Lebron situation with the Lakers.
(37:06):
I mean, there's a long list. I mean, obviously with
the Clippers and Clai Leonard, obviously Paul George out right now,
he's expected to be back for the playoffs. But the
fact is, if they can, it even makes the NBA
regular season, which is already largely irrelevant, even more so
(37:26):
if one of these superstars just ends up showing up,
playing half a season and then winning a championship. I mean,
it certainly is not ideal. You would like to see
your superstars playing the entire time so the fans can
fall in love with their team and see all the
other stuff that they do. But at the end of
the day, when we think about low management and what
(37:47):
really matters, what matters is which team hoists the trophy
at the end of the year. And so if you
can do that in hoist to goal ball, and that's
what you have to do. This is a league dependent
on outside sources for much of their money, which is
always a dangerous situation because you're beholding to people that
are paying the bills. When I look at these salaries
(38:12):
around the NBA, I think to myself, I mean, let
me give you an example. Ben Simmons this year made
thirty five and a half million dollars a year. He's
averaging six point nine points. He played half the games.
Not exactly an impact guy for the NETS. Simple economics
(38:33):
tells me if you have too many years, too many
guys making that kind of money that are actually not
producing anything for you, that is going to be detrimental
to your league. On the whole. There are forty five
players this year in the NBA that had a salary
of at least thirty million dollars. Forty five players of
(38:54):
at least thirty million dollars, many of which played half
the games or at the most sixty percent of the games.
I'm not an economic genius, but those numbers just don't
add up on the long term. You need to get
more out of the guys that you are paying. You
do need to get more out of the guys that
(39:15):
you're paying. I would say, who is causing the players
to sit out? Is this a team decision where we're
having low management and we're gearing up, where the coaches
are saying, Okay, here's where we need to be. Here're
the guys that we need to have available. Here's who
needs to be fresh and ready for the stretch run.
Or is this a situation where players are kind of
(39:39):
taking themselves out of the lineup because they have some
bumps and bruises and some aweys. That would be the
first conversation that you want to have and then you
want to make decisions off of that. But if it's
a coach driven deal, then you need to make sure
you have a little conversation with them to make sure
that your best players are available, particularly for those big
TV games. How much impact do NBA coaches have in
(40:02):
the league. I mean they have something impact. I mean
I mean they're employed by the owners. Don't think Hall
of Fame Greg Popovich has an impact on this first
thinking like out of their minds this show. I think
he has a major impact. I think he certainly has
a lot to do with their strategy and tactics for sure.
Oh man, it's just it's frustrating. I'm an MBA fan.
I want to see more of the stars. I want
(40:23):
to see more of the stars. Take a look at
how many games Carl Malone and John Stockton missed and
they're running Utah like none zero back in the day.
They got to figure this out because it's not good
for the league. All right. Coming up on the other side,
continue our preview of the Final four and the latest
news out of the NFL. Going international? Is that a
(40:44):
good idea? This it's Fox Sports Saturday. Oh yeah, rolling
along here, getting ready for the men's Final Four an
hour away tip off Sandy Go stay taken on Florida
at Land, two schools that have never been to the
Final four, followed up by Yukon, afore time national champion.
(41:06):
I guess another school that's never been to the Final four.
That is the U University of Miami at Florida. Once again,
we are broadcasting live from the tire irac dot com studios.
Tirac dot com. We're gonna help get you there and
I'm atch selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers tirerac dot com. The way
(41:28):
tire buying should be. All right, We're talking plenty of hoops.
By the way, have you been paying attention to baseball.
Major League Baseball had an opening day coming up, had
him on Thursday. The big story in baseball the clock
is working in terms of shortening games. Bucky down in average.
I've seen anywhere from twenty to twenty five minutes per
(41:51):
game shorter. It's interesting because a lot of people are
saying yay if you're watching the games on television, but
not necessarily if you go to a game. And the
reason being is if you're sort of if you go
to a baseball game and you know, well, I could
take off, you know, to go get some food, and
(42:12):
you know, the food lines are different nowadays because there's
different you know, and just getting hot dogs and everything else.
I'm not going to miss that much. But with the clock,
and by the way, if you have not been to
a Major league park yet, when you see those clocks,
you can't take your eye off the clock because the
clock's sticking down. Yeah, one in the outfield for the hitter.
He got one behind home play for the pitcher. But
(42:33):
from a TV standpoint, you don't see the clocks, and
so it's working in that way. And I'm old school,
but I'm actually saying thumbs up to the clock. I
think it's a good thing. It's created, it's a good thing. Obviously,
the gameplay has been faster, it's been a quicker game,
it's been a more exciting game. We talked about the
(42:53):
scoring being up. The scoring is up because technically there
also been some changes that have been implemented. No shift anymore,
you had no shift, also being able to limit the
number of throwovers you get too and then on that
third one is counted as a ball if you don't
throw them out, and so that advances the runners. So
now what you have. You have these guys that are
(43:13):
technically and strategically baiting you to throw a couple. And
still to ask you, were you a fan of the
day of the stolen base. I'm an old school guy,
a Dodger fan. You know, Maury Wills was at the
end of his career, but I certainly saw Davy Lobes days.
The idea of having that leadoff hitter like a Ricky Henderson,
someone like that leadoff get on base steal second, creating
(43:36):
some you know, excitement. Stolen base went the way of
the Dodo bird. I mean, people just still basis anymore.
But now is back and So I grew up in
that error where one hundred stolen bases were to think sure,
and so I grew up in gains. Ricky Henderson, Tim Rains,
Vince Coleman, guys were still in bases. I was the
double battened glove guy, meaning I had him on my hands,
(43:58):
I had him in my back pocket. Like I loved
everything about it. And now that that part of it
is coming back, now you not only have a more
exciting product, but what I'm hoping you have more athletes
gravitate towards the sport, because that's the part. When you
eliminate the stolen base, you're eliminating the athletes out of
the game. Because then it became about the big bober.
It was almost like watching Beer League softball. Everyone get
(44:20):
on base. We waved a big guy to knock them
all in with a big home run. Now we're getting
back to some of the little tactics that were used
back in the day to advance to run and manufactured
runs and do that. And for me, that's the exciting
part of baseball. Yeah, And if you're not used to
that baseball, take note because it is a more exciting
because you want action that's what we want. We need
(44:41):
action on the field, not just swinging for the fences.
So baseball, I think it's off to a pretty good
start right now. All right, let's go back to the
story that Moncy Milanos throughout here about and it's going
to happen. So let's talk in terms of it actually happening.
Because when the NFL starts talking about things, I remember
(45:01):
a few years back when there was the early buzz
that they were exploring Las Vegas as a potential market.
I'm like, not in a millionaires. There's no way the
old school owners are ever going to give a thumbs
up on Vegas. Just not going to happen. And now,
of course it did happen. So when we start hearing
(45:23):
noise about something that will happen in the NFL, it's
going to happen. Now we know that the schedule is
going to go from seventeen to eighteen games soon, Bucky,
it's going to be probably spread over twenty weeks instead
of nineteen weeks, so you'll have two by weeks, twenty
weeks of regular season NFL football. The networks are salivating,
(45:47):
and now the idea of an inner National Division, so
let's say a team in Germany and England or whatever
the combination might be. All right, let's just talk about
the logistics. Let's talk about from a player's standpoint. So
(46:07):
you're drafted into the NFL and you go to England,
you are a subject to their tax laws. The taxes
in England are beyond anything. You think our taxes are bad,
double them, and your salary would be subjected to that
(46:31):
if you play there. Plus the logistics of living there
away from friends, family, and everything else. So I'm not
exactly sure if they've really thought this out, other than
the fact that you know, there's major money coming into
the league and the owners can't get rich enough, and
(46:52):
they're not really worried. But from a player's standpoint, Bucky,
the idea of playing on a team in Europe competing
with the rest of the NFL, what are the potential
logistical problems that could create for some of these players.
I mean to create some problems in terms of so
for instance, like see when you play for a team
(47:14):
and say I'm say I grew up in la and
La is my home base, but I am drafted by
the Buffalo Bills. I now have to make a decision.
Do I want to live in Buffalo full time or
do I want to split my time meeting? Got live
in Buffalo during the season, but then I come back
in LA Well, now if you bring in the international
part of it, so let's just talk about London. So
(47:34):
now I have to make a determination. Okay, this team
is based in London. I'm here for the regular season,
but then the offseason program starts in April. Right, Do
I move my family back to the States and then
come back in April or whatever? Or do I become
a full international citizens where I just you know it,
(47:55):
I'm just gonna be in London. I'm just gonna stay
here full time. I'm gonna do all that. And what
does that mean when it comes to the tax situation
and all the other stuff. So logistically it does become problematic,
particularly when you start bringing in kids in schooling and
all of that stuff, and the fact that when you're
playing in the league outside of superstar status, you can
(48:16):
be cut at any time. So imagine starting a life
there being cut, being picked up by I don't know,
let's go to Green Bay Packers. Now you have to
make a decision. Okay, I am now in Green Bay.
I have to figure out what to do with the
kids and the family and all the other stuff. Just
makes it very challenging. But NFL longers don't care about that,
(48:38):
like they'll figure that out, like they'll you know, it's
part of the negotiation. You just kind of figure out
how to handle that. But yeah, it's not ideal for
some of the players that will have to deal with
it if they are on one of those interestings. And
it's also not ideal for the players that are domestic
and state side because the travel over and back can
be brutal. If you have another game the following week,
(49:00):
well obviously they would have to work to schedule where
if you are playing against the International Division, you would
have to stay over there multiple weeks. Right, probably you
would have back to back games where your team then
flies out of let's say La and ask to spend
a couple of weeks in Europe to play the International League.
Now a lot of people are saying, well, this is
(49:21):
not that big deal. Look at basketball. Look at all
the American basketball players who don't make it to the NBA.
The play anywhere. I mean, they're playing in China, they're
playing in Israel, they're playing in Greece, they're playing in
all over the map, and some of these guys have
been doing this for years and years and years. It
(49:41):
was Stefan Marberry, right, it became like a legend. I
believe it was in China where he really became a
superstar over there and benefited. So it's not like it
can happen, But there are logistics they would have to
be thought and I guess Mike frustration here isn't even that.
It's just the fact that there are are a lot
of American cities that are dying to be a home
(50:04):
for an NFL team, whether it's a San Diego or
San Antonio or Saint Louis. I mean, there's a long
list of cities and states that would love to have
an NFL team, and somehow they've been pushed aside so
that they can expand internationally. And that would be my
(50:26):
biggest frustration. I mean, I think the expansion internationally is
one that's valid. I don't think you need to have
a full division though. To me, when people were talking
about listen, for instance, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they were
talking about because Ownersha Khan has a relationship in London
appeared that you know, they would play a game over
there each year. They appeared to be a natural synergy
(50:46):
between Jacksonville and London. Okay, cool, If you're playing the Jaguars,
I want to say, it's a what's five or eight
our flight from New York to London or whatever. Like
that's logistically that's doable because it's like going from West
coast to East Coast and vice versa. But if you're
going to have a whole division where you have four
(51:06):
teams over there and you're doing all of that, like
that part of it becomes tough because four teams planning
to travel. If you're going to go over there, we're
talking about expense, more bang for your buck. You need
to probably play at least two games against the division
before you leave and get out of town. And I
mean so that that's the part that's hard. But I
(51:28):
also understand there is a huge appetite for NFL football.
You see how quickly those international games sell out. The
league is sitting there counting the dollars because they know
not only when it comes to the tickets and all that,
but just think about new TV stuff to international TV stuff,
different things that you can do. It just opens up
(51:50):
the world. When it comes to more dollars if you
add some teams overseas well, they desperately need more money.
I mean, come on now, this is a league starving
for money. Unbelievable. Coming up on the other side, speaking
of the NFL, I want to bring up a quarterback
not named Lamar Jackson and not named Aaron Rodgers. Coming
(52:11):
up next, Steve Hartman, Bucky Brooks. We are coming alive
from the ti iraq dot com studios. This is Fox
Sports Saturday, forty minutes away from tip off San Diego
State in Florida. Atlantic will kick out the men's Final
four there in Houston. The meantime, I want to get
(52:32):
some NFL news about a quarterback not named Lamar Jackson.
Nothing new on that, not named Aaron Rodgers. Nothing new
there either. I want to ask you about a quarterback
who was really a breakout star at the end of
this past NFL season, and that is Brock Purty of
(52:55):
the San Francisco Niners. So he's having rehab on the elbow.
Everything seems to be moving along smoothly. He should be
able to throw the saying about three months. But if
you take quarterback out of the equation, you can make
an argument that that forty nine er roster is on
(53:20):
par or better than every other team in the league. Yes,
you can. So they're on par with the Chiefs or
the Bills, or name any team in the NFL. Taking
the quarterback out of the equation, they check as many
boxes as any team in the NFL. Now, I've seen
(53:40):
Kyle Shanahan, he's been asked about the quarterback situation. He
seems quite confident that when Brock Purty is healthy, assuming
a course that their great experiment doesn't pan out, that
they're good at quarterback. Are they Are you convinced that
(54:01):
Brock Purty, from what we saw at the end of
last year, is a franchise quarterback on a team that
loaded with talent, where they have everything that you need
to get to a Super Bowl and win a Super
Bowl as long as they get the capable play out
of their quarterback. Are you convinced, because I know you've
(54:23):
been watching film. You know these guys backwards and forwards.
Is Brock Purty a franchise quarterback who? I am not
convinced that Brock Purdy is a franchise quarterback? I am
convinced that Brock Purdy is a solid game manager in
that system that cal shanahan has created in San Francisco,
(54:45):
but the people that he has around brock Purdy, when
you think about the San Francisco forty nine is and
what they have not only defensively a legit top five,
top ten defense, you have weapons golore at all the
key spots. Christie McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel George, Brandon, Aiyuk and
on and on and on, have titleted offensive line. Brock
(55:05):
Purdy does a great job of just running the show,
being what we call the past first point guard, the
John Stockton of quarterbacks in the National Football League. But
we only have seven games, really nine game, nine game sample.
That's not enough to be able to say that brock
Purdy is anything. But what the San Francisco forty nine
(55:26):
ers will do and what they want to do based
on what Jed York has talked about, is they want
to build a championship team with a quarterback on a
cheap deal. When you think about the money that you
paid to the quarterback but took a young quarterback, it's
a fraction of what the big money quarterbacks get when
they're proving themselves to be worthy of forty million dollars.
And so we brought Purdy in trade lands and now
(55:47):
with Sam Darnod coming over on in one year, two
and a half million dollar deal, the forty nine ers
have cheap quarterbacks that allow them to pay guys like
Javon Hargrave and others what you would like, whether it's
brock Purty or even Trey Lance, you want one of
those guys to emerge as a solid starter for the
long term. Brock Purty. The one thing that I worried
(56:10):
about with brock Purty, everyone is just kind of saying like, oh,
you know what, he had this little elbow thing. Maybe
he needed Tommy John. But I don't know, Like the
last time we looked at like MLB pitches, but the
Tommy John thing is still a big deal and normally
it takes a while, and so he had a different
procedure done. But there was talks of Tommy John. So
(56:32):
I don't know if the brock Purty that we will
see will be the same version of brock Purty that
we saw when he left the field. That should be
talked about more. You have Trey Lance on an let
me slow down Trey Lance or second here. Okay, So
the forty nine ers were all in on Trey Lance.
The belief was is that with Jimmy Garoppolo they were
(56:55):
limited and how far and Kyle Shannon as a healthy ego,
on how far he could take my offense. I have
a vision for my offense and Jimmy Garoppolo can only
take me so far. Right, and ironically, that's really what
Brock Purdy is as well. He can execute the offense,
but can he take it next level? That was the
promise of Trey Lance. That's why they moved up to
(57:18):
get Trey Lance, to get the kind of talent that
Kyle Shanahan could mold into someone who can take my offense,
the genius that is pouring out of my head to
the next level. So now you have Trey Lance, He's
going to get an opportunity. I sincerely doubt that Brock
Purdy is going to be healthy enough to start the season,
(57:40):
So Trey Lance is going to get that chance. Maybe
there is Sam talking about Sam Donald and hasn't been
fair to him in the tell me that he hasn't
a skill set in those things. So there's well, they
were like, he loves Sam Donald coming out of college.
He did. That's that's how how do you how the
forty nine ers and but the guy like Sam Darnold
(58:01):
twice fail well, the Jets and Panthers. It's simple. There
are coaches out there. Coaches never forget drafts. They never
forget If I like that guy, then yes, just because
it didn't work out somewhere else. You know what, I
am convinced the guy I saw if I get him. Yeah,
those guys aren't mine. And so we'll talk about this later.
But I think that's also what's hindering Lamar Jackson in
(58:24):
his conversations. The view of what people thought about you
as a draft prospect continues to linger with you, even
though you may have success in the pros. And so
Kyle Shanahan believing that Sam Donald would be a great
prospect is why he is there. Remember Samrcisco fourdnine has
also had what Josh Rosen didn't He have a couple
(58:45):
of coffee there. And so what's typical in the National
Football League if you were first round quarterback, you get
multiple bikes at the Apple. I mean you get a
tone of bikes at the apple because someone viewed you
as being worthy of being taken in the first round,
And so that means you have a level of talent.
Maybe you need a new environment, a new scheme, a
new coach, something, But that could be the difference between
(59:07):
you being a success or failure in a situation. Well,
I always use a prime example, going back to my
Raider days of Jim Plunkett, who was the number one
pick in the draft on a bad Patriots team. He
got the crap beat out of him, huge trade of
the forty nine years. It completely bombed and he was
out of football. The Raiders signed him. Didn't play a
(59:27):
single game his first year of the Raiders. The idea was,
we need him to clear his head. Next year, he
played very little as a backup. The next year, he
started the year as a backup starting quarterback. Pastorini goes down,
Pluggett comes in, they win the Super Bowl. He ends
up winning two super Bowls, But the talent never left.
He had to he had the talent to be a
(59:48):
number one overall pick. Then the Raiders are convinced we
can still get that quarterback, and they took a chance
and it worked. Yeah, So I mean there's other coaches
out there obviously believe they can do the same thing.
But all right, so you're with me. Then on the
brock Purty, the idea that brock Purty is going to
be the starting quarterback of the forty nine ers for
the next ten years is unlikely. I would say it
(01:00:12):
is unlikely based on those things like he could be
a great player, he would be a good player, whatever,
But I think time. We need more time nine games
than enough to determine whether someone can play or not.
And so the big thing for brock Purty, without the injury,
he was going to then have to play against defenses
that have adjusted to who he is and what he
(01:00:34):
is as a player. And does he have enough pitches
in his repertoire to be able to handle the adjustments
that people will throw at him. That will be the
kandastic key for every quarterback. Can you continue to adapt
an adjust to what defenses show you once they figure
you out? All right, Iowa, Sam, question for you as
far as brock Purty is concerned. If the forty nine
(01:00:56):
ers turn to brock Purty, will he win a Super Bowl?
Is he a Super Bowl winning quarter What a what
a question to just well, I mean, that's that's the
because they have a Super Bowl roster. I think he
I yeah, I think that. I think they still would
have lost the Eagles. But let's say they get that
NFC Championship game at home and maybe they don't play
a defense like the Eagles. Absolutely he can, so brock Purty,
(01:01:17):
it's it's all about it's like being a pilot. Like
he's good enough as a pilot to get them to
to to the super Bowl right now. I know Iowa
and Iowa State are very different places, but they are
in the same state. If brock Purty were to win
a Super Bowl and be a Super Bowl MVP in
the state of Iowa, where would his star power be? Uh?
He he already. I mean, listen, we we hate each
(01:01:39):
other when we're playing each other, but we're very supportive
of individual players. So who's bigger in the state of
Iowa right now, Brock Purty or Caitlyn Clark. Caitlyn Clark,
because Brock brock Purty was a big star at Iowa State.
He's bigger like in the NFL, but in the state
of Iowa, probably more people. Collegiate women's basketball is bigger
than the NFL in Iowa. Well this is I mean,
(01:01:59):
I would kind of team, but it's also it's not
the Bears. If he played for the Bears. If he
played for the Bears or the Packers or the Lions,
or he was a quarterback for the Viking maybe, which
he's super right, it's San Francisco. He's far away in
San Francisco. If you want a super Bowl, he would
be a top he is, like right now, a top
five name probably right. Yeah, I just wonder I'm trying
(01:02:22):
to go hea people, Hawkeye fans, Hawkeye graduates like enjoyed
his ride. We were, I for one did too. Yeah,
but I'm not a fan. I'm I'm I'm a unicorn
in terms of like, I'm an ambassador for the state,
right right. I don't look at you. Oh, I'm a
brock Purty fan, but I support I'm just gonna say, well,
he's a cyclone. I don't like him. You were Stupis
(01:02:44):
Hall fanatic early on would love Breese Hall. I had
I made a song about him, Breeze Lightning. John Walters
gave him that Breese light but it's a little parody
of grease lighting. And so no, when I did the
Iowa Minute. I was pumping these guys up constantly. I
look at it from afar. Are you still doing a minute?
It's been about a year. I do them occasionally, like
on Ben Maller Jonas will have me do it, but
I haven't done it, uh consistently since uh August to
(01:03:07):
twenty twenty one. How much Caitlyn Clark gear do you
actually own? Right? I don't own any Caitlyn Clark gear.
Shame on me. But I'm gonna get a Final four
shirt for sure. Yeah, and if they win the four
shop at a national chance. I want both shut because
the Final four looks cool. It just looks I want
the team's logos on there. Yeah. So I got some
shopping to do. I think a right, let's find out
(01:03:27):
what it's trending right now. I don't know if Monsey
is thinking in the same light. I didn't ask you, Moncy,
because do you own a lot of sports gear? Um? Sorry,
I am eating an apple and I just broke my
knife trying to cut it. Guys, don't use a plastic
knife to cut an apple. No, I don't do that,
but I didn't. I don't know. I thought I Apple's
(01:03:47):
pretty firm. I did. I didn't know how long you
guys are gonna be talking about Caitlyn Clark, you know,
I mean, are you one of those people like basic
rule of radio shop? Yeah? I got red clock right
(01:04:10):
your pitch clock. Now, you guys see me wear the
exact same UCLA shirt every Saturday. Yeah, every literally the
same shirt every Saturday. Now, are you into buying a
lot of gear? I do have a lot of I
do have a lot of Clippers gear. I do have
a lot of Dodgers gear. Yeah, that's true. I have
a Dirk Novitsky MAVs shirt because I love that dude.
(01:04:35):
And I have a Lebron James Cavaliers MVP shirt like
a cartoony looking when he won the MVP, when he
was like a cat. All right, let's ask Danny g
because we know Danny's got some gear. Here, we have
Danny back today. It's good to see again, Danny absolutely um.
All right, So Raiders gear, Dodgers gear, a little Chargers,
(01:04:58):
a little bit. I'm wearing Iowa right now. I'm just
putting stop your liddle state. No one's got the Iowa
gear like you got. I do. Got some money. Do
you have more Dodgers gear or Raiders gear, more Raiders gear, Margarid. Yeah,
since I was a kid, I've been collecting Raiders jerseys.
Right I'm wearing Raider nikes right now. I do have
a Raider laker and a Kobe Bryant tattoo, so that's
(01:05:20):
always on. Have you ever had any kind of gear
underwear ever? No socks but jamas? Yeah, I have like
some Raider long John's. Yeah. I got a ton of
clipper socks. You have clippers, have a ton of clipper socks.
I don't even know what to say. Gets, you know,
(01:05:42):
and they come in Andy, they come in Andy repping clippers.
At all times, I'm getting excited. And I'm seeing Brian Dutcher,
coach of San Diego State. I love this guy. I
got to know him so well and he's Uh, I'm
so happy for this guy. You know what it means
for San Diego State to be in a final four,
It's crazy, very crazy. I'm rooting for San Diego State.
(01:06:03):
That's who I'm rooting for. One percent. And no knock
on Florida Atlantic, No, not at all. Where is Florida Atlantic? Fucky?
Where is that school in Howard Schnellenberger revived the program.
I remember that, Yeah, sort of, sort of, let's do
a little, a little recap of what's going on in
Major League Baseball. Yeah, Anthony Renlon was booed very hard
(01:06:24):
by they and then the Angels were like, watch this
and they've scored eleven runs bottom of the fifth inning.
Eleven to one is the score. He was asked about
that incident before the game, and he just said he
couldn't comment. MLB's investigating that whole thing where he grabbed
the A's fan kind of swiped at him. Why. I
still have no idea even if the guy said what.
(01:06:46):
By the way, no one has any tape of it
being staid, right, No, the video starts late videos, so
we don't actually hear this guy calling him. Yes, um,
but why would you care? I because they lost into
the A's with the four fans in the stands. I
don't know, man, I believe me. I've yelled way worse.
Oh yeah, no, Yeah, clearly he was having a bad day.
(01:07:09):
I get what you're saying. It was very minimal for
that reaction opening day. Yeah, I get what you're saying.
Clearly he was having a bad day. The Orioles aren't
having a bad day. They've already hit three or excuse me,
they've already got three runs against. Excuse me, eight runs
against the Red Sox. Bottom of the fourth inning. Red
Sox are on the board, but the score is eight
to five. The Rays all over the Tigers eight to one.
(01:07:30):
About to enter the bottom of the fourth inning, and
it's the Yankees who are now losing to the Giants.
They were up, not anymore. Giants up three to two.
Bottom of the fourth inning. Braves still shutting out the
Nationals five zero. Top of the sixth inning. A little
NFL news like I read earlier today, Bengals head coach
Zach Taylor said the team has opened extension talks with
quarterback Joe Burrow. And there was a report yesterday by
(01:07:51):
CBS Sports that they're gonna keep these talks close to
the vest. So we might just hear, oh, this is
the new contract we've extended him. We might not get
a lot of information until it happens. Bengals owner Mike
Brown said that they could structure a deal similar to Patrick,
to what Patrick Mahomes got with the Chiefs, which was
ten years, four hundred and fifty million, so we might
get an update on Joe Burrows contract before we get
(01:08:14):
one of Lamar Jackson's contracts back to you. All right,
thank you very much, many and again we are getting
ready for this game between San Diego State and Florida Atlantic.
We're about a half an hour away, so obviously we'll
keep you update on the final four. I want to
talk about a quarterback in the upcoming draft, and I
want to talk about a comparison in numbers and how
(01:08:35):
one guy could be rated ahead of the other guy.
So this one quarterback completed seventy percent of his passes
this past season, twenty seven touchdowns in two picks. The
year before he had thirty one touchdowns and three picks.
(01:08:55):
So over two years, this one quarterback had fifty eight
touchdowns and five picks. Okay, the other guy is a
one year starter who completed fifty three percent of his
passes with seventeen touchdowns and nine picks. The second quarterback
is the guy that everyone's been talking about, Anthony Richardson,
(01:09:20):
the guy with the stats that I gave you, the
first guy, the first guy, the guy that gave again
seventy percent completion last year. Over two years, fifty eight
touchdowns and five picks Henn and Hooker. Now, I don't
know if he's going to be able to play this
year in the NFL. But if you're trying to project
(01:09:42):
an NFL quarterback, and I'm using those two as an example,
which one do you believe has the best chance of
being a franchise quarterback? M loaded question, But I will
say Henn and Hooker has a better chance of being
a franchise quarterback because he's a better player. Now, just
(01:10:05):
because he's a better player doesn't necessarily mean he's a
better prospect. But he is a better player than Anthony
Richardson based on how their collegiate careers played out. Remember
when we're comparing these two guys, Hendon Hooker and Anthony Richardson,
we actually have an opportunity to see him play against
common opponents. They both played in the SEC. We saw
one guy dominate the SEC. That would be Hendon Hooker.
(01:10:27):
You talked about fifty eight touchdowns only five interceptions. That's
back to back years of dominant play in what some
would consider the toughest and finest conference in the land.
We have one guy and Anthony Richardson, who those numbers
are very pedestrian. Even when you factor in the rushing numbers,
they aren't dominant numbers for someone who is being discussed
(01:10:50):
as a top five pick. From a talent standpoint, Anthony
Richardson is a freak show. Six four two forty four pounds,
four four forty. We can talk about the jumps, forty
inch vertical, almost an eleven foot broad jump, all of
those things magical when it comes to the tools, but
the tools have not necessarily translated into great production or performance.
(01:11:13):
And so my concern would be that he is a
great prospect, he hasn't been a great player, and there's
no guarantee that he will ever be a great player
based on what he's shown to this point. All Right,
we assume Carolina with the first pick, Houston with the
second pick. We'll take some combination of Bryce Young and
CG Strout. The Indianapolis Colts are sitting at number four.
(01:11:38):
You got Hannah Hooker, you got Richardson, you got Will Levis.
They make the call to the one man that they
know is going to make the right decision for them.
That would be Bucky Brooks. Bucky gets the call from
the Colts. They said we're torn. We got three quarterback prospects.
We need to make the right decision. We can't continue
(01:11:59):
this from evolving door of quarterbacks so we've had for
the last five years, ever since Andrew Luck quit on us.
We need to come up with the name of the
quarterback that we are going to still be talking about
it as our quarterback eight to ten years down the road.
We got three quarterbacks to choose from Bucky Brooks, you
(01:12:21):
need to make the right pick for us. Which way
would you lean? Okay? So, because of the way everything is,
I'm Shane Stike and as my coach, Shane Stykens has
come to me, he's already talked about, Hey, we have
Garnimentheu in the building. Garnimentsheu's already established as our bridge
quarterback or our QB two. So now I feel like
(01:12:41):
we can line up and play a game with Garnimenthu
as started because we've seen Garnamenthu start games in the
National Football League. Now it's about long term. What is
it that we want. Well, I've seen stike in take
Jalen Hurts and help him become a dominant player, almost
an MVP caliber player. The problem that I have is
I'm sitting there at number four, and number four you're
(01:13:02):
talking about a gayage. When you pick four, this guy
should be like a lock. I mean, come in, walk in.
There's no doubt about the talent. That's why they're calling
you because they can't blow. I don't. I don't see
any of those guys worthy of being taken in four. Wow,
I don't, I can't, I can't hand it. Would you
consider trading down? Well, I will consider trading down, And
(01:13:27):
even then, when I think about the guy that I
would take, it would be hard. It'd be hard to
convince me to take one. It'd be hard to convince
me to take Richardson and Levis. So you would take
Hannon Hooker bottom of the first round, not early in
the first round, right, Yeah. I know some people say, well,
(01:13:47):
first rounds first. But what you're saying is none of
those quarterbacks is worthy of the fourth overall pick in
the draft. No, no, no, not at all. I mean,
even if you think about it, um, this would be
the ken of the Russell Westbrook Draft with Russell Westbrook
because Russell was drafted fourth overall, he was six man
at UCLA. Well, he had just become a starter, his
(01:14:08):
sophomore year just become a starter. But it was kind
of like a one year deal, more more flashed than
he was. Actually the pick behind him was his teammate,
the one and done Kevin Love. Yeah, and so with
Westbrook it was unrealized potential. So you're hoping on the
athleticism and all this stuff that he's shown in flashes.
That's what the pick Richardson would be. That's what the
(01:14:30):
pick Will Levis would be. Man, when you're drafting up there,
you gotta get a guy. And I don't know if
either one of those guys will turn into a guy,
and I think they'll leave you wanting more. If you
ask me, if I'm the Indianapolis Colts, I would be
more tempted to explore the Lamar Jackson angle than to
take a young guy because of what I know. M interesting.
(01:14:51):
I know that Danny ge and talking openly, you like
to see a hen and Hooker fall down the draft list?
Hell yeah, if he's there in the second round, that
it be Jimmy G's back up. Can you imagine a
Las Vegas jersey with the name Hooker on the back
of it? Do I need to put it? I need
to put it. I need to put an h in
front of us so I won't get I won't get abused.
That the number one selling jersey in the NFL. I'm
(01:15:16):
walking down the strip and I got people yelling at
me a Raiders hooker on the back. That is brilliant.
Do you think do you think any of the ladies
would actually wear a Raiders jersey around Vegas with that?
You know, free advertising? I don't know. I'm just one
out of the bunny ranch. Maybe make a little just
wear that nothing else, right exactly? All right? Coming up
(01:15:38):
on the other side, we are getting get you ready
for the tip off San Diego State, Florida Atlantic. What
should we expect from these final four games? Will break
it down. This is Fox Sports Saturday. If things go
they're away here late in the year, they could make
a run. Deep A d was talking all about it.
They want to get in, they want to get cop
(01:16:00):
They walk this w that Spectrum Sports the Lakers. Wow,
is this the biggest moment in Lakers history? They're one
game over five hundred. Can we ignore the seventeen championships
because apparently this is the biggest moment in Lakers history
that for the first time the entire season, with five
games to go, they're above five hundred. Wow, how the
(01:16:24):
bar has been lowered, by the way. That's our Progressive
play of the day, brought to you by Progressive Insurance.
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a multi policy

more all your protection in one place. Bundle and saved
at Progressive dot com. One thing we were reminded about
with the Laker win yesterday against the t Wolves. As
(01:16:45):
the Lakers, by the way, move into the seven slot,
they're gonna have to have a lot of things happen
to move into the sixth slot. But at seven, they're
going to be in pretty good shape, at least hosting
a couple of games, potentially well hosting the first game
they beat the see they be in When Anthony Davis
wants to show up and play like he did yesterday,
(01:17:08):
especially in that third quarter, nobody can stop this guy.
I mean, there's a lot of dominant players in this
league that we see flashes of, but when I see
Anthony Davis being aggressive around the rim, forget it. Nobody
can stop him. Nobody he could just he could have
(01:17:31):
his way with any player in this league, but we
don't always see it. And then every time he goes
to the ground like you know, whether it's you know,
it happened again yesterday, he makes out like it's it's
a career ender, that's it, it's over, and he comes
up and he comes back and everything else I don't know.
I mean, obviously he's one of the all time legends,
made the seventy fifth Anniversary team. The whole season hinges
(01:17:55):
on him, Anthony Davis, his ability to stay healthy. Now
I know you watch this Laker team. If we have
a healthy Anthony Davis, a healthy Lebron James, a healthy
DeAngelo Russell, and emerging Austin Reeves, a lot of ifs,
a lot of ifs um and the West is underwhelming
(01:18:16):
to stay the least, I don't see him. I don't
see Boston, I don't see Philadelphia. Any one of those
three teams would dominate any team out of it, don't
I think. I think the NBA itself, I don't. I
think I think It's why I want you on the
record right now, Bucky Brooks. How far will the Lakers
get in this year's NBA playoffs. Well, right now, there
will be a lot of at what six that means
(01:18:38):
they get a chance. They're aiming for six. So they
can look at the Sacramento Kings, right, so you get right,
they get the seven game series against Sacramento with him
having home court. Okay, so that that pushed him. Let's
put them pass that pushed him in there not working
for Semis at all. Put him in the Conference Semis.
And then if you get to the Conference Semis and
depending on who I mean, I mean, if you look
at Memphis and Denver and Sacramento, I mean there's I
(01:19:01):
mean Boland States also in the mix. You remember they
actually won the NBA championship. Yeah, but they're dismissing Steph Curry.
They can't win on the road. They don't win on
the road. Do you think the fort the Warriors even care?
This is this is why about Phoenix. Hello, Phoenix Suns
a team the one over sixty games and they added
(01:19:21):
Kevin Durant this year. They added Kevin Okay, so right
in the Lakers, have you forgotten the Clippers who own
the Lakers head to head, but they won't see the Clippers.
The Clippers would be on the other side of the bracket. Okay,
So I'm looking at the Lakers right now, the seventh
in the play in. I don't know if they can
snatch the Warriors. Right now, I'm saying, if the Lakers
get in, at a minimum, at a minimum, they get
(01:19:44):
to the Western Conference file wow. Wow? Okay, so minimum
right now? Anybody with him on that one? How about that? Uh?
I like a game because you're looking at if they
get in? All right, so seven they played Memphis. Okay,
let's just say they get in as they played Memphis,
(01:20:07):
then they would played the winner of the Kings and
the Warriors. Have you been watching Memphis since Sean Moran
came back? Yeah? I mean, like, I mean, they're glowing
people out like Dylan Bruks. Can they stay focus? Can
they stay locked in? Okay? All right? Big believer, Big believers. So,
by the way, if that all happens, First of all,
nothing counts with the Lakers unless you actually win a championship.
(01:20:27):
Otherwise it's a year wasted. We're coming alive from the
tirerack dot Com studios. We get ready to kick off
the Men's Final Four coming up next. One of the
best days on the sports calendar. It is semi Finals Saturday.
At the Final four, we are minutes away of tip
off between San Diego State and Florida Atlantic. Once again,
(01:20:50):
this is Fox Sports Saturday. We were broadcasting live from
the ti irac dot Com studios. Ti irac dot com.
We're gonna help get you there and I'm at selection
fast free shipping, Free Road has protection over ten thousand
recommended installers tirac dot com. Little Way tire buying should
be man, oh man, you get to the final four.
(01:21:12):
There's a lot of work to get done to get
to a final four. We see upsets every single year,
by the way, since nineteen eighty two, so over the
last forty years, Buckie, the team ranked number one in
the country has gone on to actually win the Napational
Championship only five times in the last forty years. This
(01:21:33):
year's number one was Houston and they went down in
the tournament obviously. In fact, no one seeds even got
past the sweet sixteen. So we have a Cinderella final
four here. But there is a clear favorite and that's Yukon,
a team that started the season red hot, went a
little sideways for a while and then got it back
(01:21:56):
and they've dominated in their run to the final four.
Let's not forget at the University of Miami, Florida was
the co champions regular season of the ACCA. Yeah, they
were the really good team. Jim Larnegga has that team
playing well. They played well throughout and when you think
about it, people are calling this the NIO dream team
with all the NIO transfers and money that was paid
(01:22:16):
out to the squad. But it worked out, and it
worked out because Larinega is a great job at building
and creating the cohesive environment that you need to play
at a high level. And so here they are in
the four and they're look they're good. But yeah, well
all these schools are good. I mean, look at look
at this. If you're looking at just the records of
the two teams that are about to tip off right now,
(01:22:38):
Florida Atlantic and San Diego State, Florida Atlantic is thirty
five and three and Santego State's thirty one and six. Yeah,
I mean we're not talking some you know, twelve lost
team or thirteen lost teams staggering into the final four.
It's just that when you play in their conferences, you
don't get the recognition you would out of the Big
(01:22:59):
Ten or the ACC or the SEC or any of
the Pac twelve running these other conferences, So you really
don't know how good they are until you get to
the tournament. And what we have found out this year
is that Florida Atlantic and San Diego State are really
good basketball teams and they're veteran teams. I think this
is going to be an absolute slug fest. I mean,
you almost have to go in with the mindset the
(01:23:23):
fact that we weren't expected to even get here. You
have nothing to lose. You got to be loose. You
got to be loose. But it's hard. It's hard when
you reach this level of it because you can taste it.
You're close enough where you understand the magnitude of the
game that you're playing in. And this should help that
these older teams like teams with older players who have
a lot of experience, a lot of pearls on the
(01:23:43):
wall and that stuff. But yeah, this is gonna be
a dog fight, and it's gonna be a dog fight
because for San Diego State to win, they have to
make it like that because they are a defensive oriented
team and fa you can shoot the lights out of
it when they decided to move final fours into football stadiums.
Initially they would cut off half the stadium the first
(01:24:03):
Final four where they opened up literally the entire stadium.
I was at you in your tar heels beat Michigan
State in the National Championship at O nine out of
Ford Field, and I was a courtside for that game,
and first thing I was thinking is the people. They're
in the rafters. Forget binoculars, like you need a telescope
(01:24:26):
to see the court from up there. But it's interesting
from a players standpoint. You've never played in an environment
like this. The site lines are unlike anything you've ever
experienced because the fans are so far back when you
put a court in the middle of a football field, essentially,
I'll be interesting to see early on how these two
(01:24:49):
teams shoot. You remember that disastrous final in twenty eleven
when Yukon beat Butler and both teams shot like twenty
percent in the game. They just they couldn't had a
hard time. So San Diego standing in particular, is not
a great shooting team. They're a defensive team. Their defense
creates their offensive opportunities. So that'll be something we'll watch
(01:25:11):
early in this game is how how quickly one of
these teams or both these teams can figure out the
shooting sites, because again they are looking at something that
they've never seen before. Yeah, when you talk about a
shooting site, you talk about the backdrop because it's so
much bigger than the normal gym that you play in. Normally,
when you play in the gym, you get guys right
behind the basket, so the depth perception in those things
(01:25:34):
are the same. I do remember back in my days
in college, Carolina won the title they wanted, I want
to say, in the Superdome, like when ye when they
able to do it, and you talk about just how
big the stadium is and how it takes you a
while to get adjusted to not having the normal eyesight.
You talk about the dimensions and all of that. So
that plays the fact that the other thing that plays effect.
(01:25:55):
I'm watching them do the starting lineups, and this is
an elevated floor. Yes it is, meaning that when you
get to the silent and the baseline, it drops off,
and so to be careful, you don't want to be
falling up one I hated to me. I just think
is such a safety hazard. You know when you're playing hard,
and you're going for loose balls and those things you
(01:26:15):
get dangerously close to the inlines. You just have to
be careful. But all of these things require a level
of adjustment. The team that adjust the quickest and they're
able to settle into their normal style of play will
ultimately be the team to Wednesday game. All right, So
they are introducing the starting lineups right now in Houston,
and San Diego State gets ready to take on Florida Atlantic.
(01:26:36):
As I mentioned, I was part of the station that
is the home of Aztecs of basketball and football over
the last several years, and I've half these players because
they've been there so locked, I've had an opportunity to
talk to them, and this is just it. It's really
mind blowing to put a perspective how big this would
(01:26:57):
be for a school like San Diego State. In their
entire school history, all sports, Bucky, they have one NCAA championship.
That was men's volleyball in nineteen seventy three, fifty years ago. Well,
you know, you have to start winning sometime. So you
(01:27:20):
have one. You have to win one before you can
win two. And so this is a great opportunity for
them to get it pop in. Well, how about this,
I mean San Diego State. Obviously a lot of conversation
that they're going to be joining the PAC twelve with
the departure of USC and UCLA. Obviously, their football team
has been very representative. They have a new stadium now
in San Diego for their football team and holds about
(01:27:41):
thirty thirty five thousand. Obviously, the basketball program has been
really good for a number of years now, going all
the way back in the Steve Fisher days. I haven't
asked you as San Diego State. There's been a lot
of talk about SMU talking about those two markets, the
Dallas market the San Diego market. Obviously, see now the
one is the LA market. How would that Pac twelve fair?
(01:28:05):
What is your prediction for the Pac twelve minus USC
and UCLA. Errors, But there's still some good teams there,
as long as you can retain Oregon because they're build up,
they're close to be in a powerhouse. You have Utah
that has played at a high level the last couple
of years. Uh, those two teams that kind of have
to be the anchor. We'll see what Dianna is able
to eventually do in Colorado. But San Diego State is
(01:28:28):
a very solid program. And now if you elevate them
and give them more resources, more opportunities to be on
an even bigger stage instead of having to watch them
at UH ten o'clock at night, UM twelve is going
to be, is going to be after dark because if
you can, if you can give them some reasonable uh
(01:28:48):
game times where you can find them and find them
on big networks where you can see what they have
to offer. Yes, Um, you talk about a program that
has produced pros. They played really good football you now
have mentioned, and that new stadium that they have. Yes,
san Diego State certainly can become a viable contend in
the conference. Has become continue in the conference, they eventually
compete on an even higher level. Can you imagine standing
(01:29:11):
center court for these teams neither school obviously Florida Atlantic
or San Diego State. I mean, they knew they were
going to be good, and you can dream, you can
dream big when the reality sets in and you're staring
at that final four logo in the middle of the
court and you know all eyes are on you. So
they have just tipped off. This game will continue to
(01:29:32):
update too, as the assets take on the Owls. Is
that right? The Florida Atlantic Owls and San Diego State.
It looks like, Wow, this is going to be a
physical game. Um, if you're an official in this game,
you're letting these kids play, I mean on there like
because if this, if they're right there, Florida Atlantic has
(01:29:54):
just hit at three point shot. So the Owls get
off to the early lead. All right, We're gonna break
a little early here because on the other side, we're
gonna do our usual Saturday ritual. We're gonna check in
with the number one info guy in the National Football League,
our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider Adam Kaplan is going
to join us. Coming up next, Steve Harbin, Bucky Brooks,
(01:30:19):
Fox Sports Saturday. We're coming alive from the Tirak dot
Com Studios. San Diego State spot at Florida Atlantic five
points and now San Diego State's run off eight straight Aztects,
leading the Owls by a score eight to five, sixteen
minutes to go in the first half. The Final four
is officially underway. Now it's time for us to spend
(01:30:40):
some time. He's so generous to join us every single
Saturday here he has our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider,
Serious XM nfls the always busy Adam Kaplan. How much
interest do you have in this Final four, Adam? I
do with Yukon. Yeah, the Yukon was my pick for
the tournament and I'm sticking with it. They look great,
(01:31:02):
they're loaded, they're legit at you know, they're really they're
fun to watch. They're just they're really good. Uh. I
cannot believe that Miami game, that comeback that they had
was against Texas last week. Yeah, it looked like they
were dead in the water and then they came back.
It was a great comeback. I'm a big fan of
Jim Lironego, the Miami coach who brought Georgia Matson the
Final four some years ago. And look at San Diego
States a team remember with Chris Steve Fisher. He turned
(01:31:25):
that program around. And I think it's Brian Dutcher if
not mistaken this thing coach there. His dad, Jim was
a longtime coaching University of Minnesota. You know, I found
a called basketball guy by heart for years so decades.
So look, it's been a very interesting tournament. I tell
you that nobody expected what we've seen so far. But
if you look at all four of these teams, they
actually have very good credentials. It just that they're not
(01:31:46):
the normal name. Well Fau, I mean, Steve, come on,
Fau who has only lost three games all season long?
And remember Miami won the ACC regular season. So um, yeah,
these are pretty good teams. All right, let's get to
some NFL talk. So Bucky and I were talking about
this one story. It's a little offbeat, but you know,
we have all this conversation about expansion the NFL on
(01:32:10):
the international level, and this is not a news story
because they've been talk about actually having an international division
added to the National Football League. How serious are they
about this and are they concerned at all about certain logistics?
Taxes and foreign countries are significantly more so than in
(01:32:31):
the United States. Have they checked everything that would be
necessary to actually pull this off and get the players
in on it? Steve, this is interesting, he brings up
So one of my last stories that I had for
ESPN back in seventeen was that very strong source within
the NFL told me that one day in our lifetime
there will be a team overseas, and I'd laugh to
(01:32:53):
go what to keep tell me when that will be
goes No, but I'm just telling you we're going to
have one, and we went through well logistically, it's hard
to work players out, it's hard to scout like there
are a lot of challenges for it. But it can happen.
There's just some Bucky knows. From a scouting standpoint, there
are a lot of things that you have to go through.
Based on the person I spoke with, I do believe
(01:33:14):
we're gonna have a team overseas some year, some day
because we see we know how they travel over to
England in Germany and they get incredible crowds. Now they're
stadium issues, there's grass issues, field issues. There are a
lot of things that got to get cleaned up. But
some day down the road we can have It'll happen.
Now having a division there, having four teams obviously that
(01:33:37):
means expansion. Yeah, because the Jaguars aren't moving. I know
a lot of people because Shotgun the owner's got soccer
interests as through the Bucks and they go they go
over a little bit. But no, I there'll be a
team there someday. I do believe that the division. It's hard.
We I mean, we don't want to spend this whole
segment on expansion, but I could tell you legitsckly overseas.
(01:34:02):
It's getting players over there. It's time difference, but the
big one is working out getting players over there. There
are a lot of things that have to happen, but
they have time to do this. It's going to happen.
Expansion's going to happen overseas. It's just it's inevitable. And
I do want to talk about, Steve. Something you asked
(01:34:22):
me last week about the Thursday night package, because something
interesting happened when I was there. I was laughing. I
was thinking of you when it happened. Oh okay, I
thought I thought it was gonna thought to what's going
on to it? Right? So what happened was you would
ask me step on our second last week about the
Amazon package and whether that was legitimate. Whether they have
(01:34:43):
some Thursday night games is uh? In terms of uh,
just the just change the schedule a little bit, as
we do with the convertible games late in the season. Well,
it's fate would have it. I was at the commissioner's
press conference late on Tuesday, and it's just funny because
I know Roger A little bit just being around him
and I know how how he is. We heard John
(01:35:07):
Morris say we're not doing that. This. I don't like this.
We're not going to screw the fans over and move
games to Thursday night late in the season. It's enough
that they have to travel when the games could be
changed for for just for viewership standpoint, to have better
games in the season. But the commissioner was interesting. He
was like kind of like, wait a minute, Oh, I
talked to some players who would love that. They love
(01:35:29):
that mini by, They love having thirsty ni games that way,
they get four days off. And I'm just telling you,
when Roger Coldell wants something, he gets what he wants
most likely, folks, when he wants something and may take
some time, but he usually gets it. Remember remember the
NFLPA said they would never vote for seventeen game season,
It'll never happen. And what happened. Yeah never. They were defined,
(01:35:53):
no way, no how, we're not doing it, and then
they went up doing it. So it's good that you
talked about that because one the big takeaways coming out
of the owners meetings? What else is another big thing
that we need to talk about coming out of owners
meeting that you learn why you were there. Well, I mean,
look the Lamar stuff. Let's get back to that, because
I know when we talked about it last week. What
(01:36:14):
I think it's interesting with Arthur Blank, the Falcons don't
know who they started a quarterback going to be past
the season. And quite frankly, with Ritter, I mean, they
like him, but he was a third round pick. They're
not completely sold on him. They want to take a
greater look at him. But just the fact that Arthur
Blank was an owner who went on the record because
you can because Lamar Jackson's technically a free agent though
he's been franchised, for him to talk about it like
(01:36:36):
he did and talk about his injury history, it gives
you the insight on why it's hard to sign him
to an offer sheet, give up two first round picks,
then pay him when you're worried about him staying healthy.
It's just I gave him credit. I did not expect
that to happen. I also was very surprised that both
general managers involved in the Aaron Rodgers trade, that Packers
(01:36:58):
GM Brian goodcou and Joe Douglas were both on the
record talking about I mean it's really interesting. You never
know what the owners of meaning is, what you're going
to hear and what people tell you. But I was
very interested to see what they were going to do,
and they went out, they talked about it. But the
Lamar Jackson situation's interesting because you're just not finding a
viable trade Canned. I know there are a lot of
(01:37:19):
people surprised by that, but right now we don't have one. Though.
Though one more thing. Chris Bauer, the GM and the
Colts guys, he won a record and said, look, we're
looking into it. Interesting. We were talking earlier about Lamar Jackson.
We're talking about the Colts with that fourth pick in
the draft, and obviously with Carolina Houston taking Bryce Young
c J. Stratt in some order with the top two
(01:37:40):
picks according to Bucky. And I don't know how you
feel about this, Adam. You know, when you talk about Richardson,
if you talk about Henn and Hooker, you talk about
Will Levis, none of those guys are worth the fourth
pick in the draft. That's why, Steve, that's why. And
then and so why if you're the if you're the
if you're the Colts, and you got to get this right. Yep.
(01:38:00):
You've had this revolving door of quarterbacks over the last
seven of a trust me, yeah, since the Andrew Luck retirement.
I mean, you got to get this right. Why not
Lamar Jackson. And that's what Jim Mursay and Chris bout
in particular, the GM who will make the call on
the end and has got to pay for it in
terms of cash. They're looking into it, and it's complicated
(01:38:23):
because of the kind of contract that Jackson wants and
the compensation. Because Chris ballach an old school guy, he
really wants to buil through the draft now through free agency.
And he's been great conservative other than the Buckner trade
defars Bucker trade, which has been good, He's it's been
a good acquisition. Chris is is very not He doesn't
do a lot of trading. He believes in building for
(01:38:43):
the draft. That's the way he learned from the great
Jerry Angelo with the Bears, and that's the way he
looks at things. But he's at a crossroads now. They
have not gotten right since Andrew Luck retired. It's not
their fault that he retired, but they just with whether
Philip Rivers first a band aid, whether it's Carson wentz
at and it was a disaster. It just they hadn't
worked and they know and they don't. By the way,
(01:39:04):
they don't have a very good roster. It's okay, And
talking to other teams, they've looked at the roster and
they kind of agree with me, and it's a very average,
better than some parts, not at others. But you can't
win if you don't have a quarterback. And I give
Ballot credit him, and he said he didn't want to
go too deep, and they said, look, they're looking into it,
they're evaluating it. And the way I understand, and this
is what one GM said to me this week when
I was in Arizona. They're kind of no man's land
(01:39:26):
at four because who know who the top two quarterbacks are.
Will Levis is a really talented pastor. Didn't have a
great year of Kentucky. There were some things going against him.
They changed the offensive coordinator, they didn't have a great
personnel around him. And then you look at Richardson. Is
Chris Ballot really going to put his name on that
at number four? Put his car in the line for
(01:39:48):
a guy only started one year. That's not like Chris.
I don't see that happening. So yeah, I look, I
get it. There's they're in a tough spot and they
know that. You know, Adam, there was was coming out
of the meetings about Bill Belichick and maybe his status
with the Patriots beyond this year, which it appears to
be kind of crazy. But what do you think about
(01:40:10):
this situation? Like, obviously there's been a debate between like
who was responsible for all the success with Tom Brady?
But Tom Brady goes on and win as the Super Bowl?
What do you think about his status with the Patriots
beyond next year if he doesn't win? All right, Bucky,
let's address Robert krafts. I'm so glad you brought this
up because I was blown away about what Robert Kraft said,
the owner of the Patriots, and he talked about the
(01:40:32):
Matt Patricia situation and how anyone he don't want to
mention Belichick's name, he goes they put they put Patricia
in a tough spot. He's never called plays before. He
really is not. Let's call like, he doesn't want to
qualified to call plays. He'd no business call him plays
up with some stick I knew that one was in
training camp with them one the Panthers in Foxburg for
two days. It was a disaster from the day one.
Having Joe Judge coach the quarterbacks. I was a disaster
(01:40:55):
just everything Bill Belichick did. And I'm a huge defender
of his for years and decades, but this can't defend it.
And look, they they put out a statement on a
social media which is so not like them that they
put out very terset one a couple months ago. They're
going to extend They're gonna extend their defensive coordinators. Well Mayo,
they're gonna make them defensive coordinator and they're gonna they're
(01:41:18):
they're gonna hire an offensive coordinator, which is Bill Brian.
By the way, they never do stuff like that because
the whole thing was an embarrassment. So to answer your question, no,
he's not in trouble, but if Bill Brian will do
a good job. By the way he called the place
in O nine, I believe the year they didn't have
techna of a coordinator when Josh McDaniel's left to be
the Broncos head coach. Bill's a good play caller and
(01:41:39):
then they got a professional play calls so they're gonna
better on offense. They got to get mac Jones better,
and they will. This is now. They're taking this situation seriously,
and I give I give Kraft credit. He you can't
pull the wool over eyes for fans. They know way
too much of these days, and I applaud Kraft for
doing it. Forty nine Ers so they're really flying into
the radar. I think the three of us can sit
(01:42:01):
here and agree. If you take the quarterback out of
the equation, the forty nine ers roster is on par
better than every other team in this league. They check
as many boxes as any team in this league would
that roster. That being said, is brock Purty a franchise quarterback?
And why exactly did they pick up Sam Darnold? All right,
(01:42:22):
so the two reasons. Both their top two quarterbacks had
major surgeries. Party with his right elbow and Lance had
its second fall up on his ankle. He won't be
ready to late spring, so you can't. And by the way,
you can't go into training camp with two quarterbacks. You
have to have three. And if some teams go with four, five,
so you had to have at least three. So they
did that. Darnald, Darnold, Doornotas and well, he actually might
(01:42:46):
take the ones because we don't know yet if Lance
will be ready. So that's the first thing. Number two.
Let me just go back to Brock Purty. So I'm
told that in their their personnel meetings. I'm going to
say right after their season ended in Philly, they made
the choice of party. They didn't know then that what
they were going to with Purdy's elbow, but they made
a decision Purty would be the start of going forward.
(01:43:07):
Despite all that they gave up with Lance, why do
they want to go with Purtie? The way that they
went as far as they went, they got to the
championship game. I know it's crazy. He was the last
pick of the draft, but they were so blown away
with the way they handled the way he handled himself
that it is what it is. It's like, Okay, we
missed a Lance, but we hit on the last pick
of the draft last year. And that's what I was told,
(01:43:29):
and I think John Lynch confirmed that to the media
this week, and so did more or less they head
coach Kyle Shanahan that they're going to do that, but
perty won't be ready till June or July. They even
start throwing and then one would be when they when
will the elbow be back to normal, So they don't
know that yet. He had the less invasive surgery, the
less reconstructive one, and Lance we got to see him
(01:43:52):
and he really hasn't done anything. So Steve, I agree
with you for the most part. They're a little bit shaky.
Opposite shavarious war to corner and they did lose one
defensive end, so they need they need to take a
look at that. But you're right, they have a great roster.
They'll be there. But now, now, don't forget Brock Party's
not started full season, so this is this If he's ready,
this will be the first time he's done that the
NFL level, all right, So when it's all said and done,
(01:44:14):
you believe the Huskies will be raining once again. I'm
still sticking with him. Yeah, I didn't think they'd be
this good, but I mean they are. They have been dominant,
and I love that this Snogo the center. He'll probably
play power forward at the next level. And the kid
clanging the seven one kid from Bristol, Connecticut, maybe near ESPN,
he's going to be a stud like they're really I
gotta give him credit. They've really turned this program around
(01:44:35):
very quickly. Well, this first game has been very entertaining
so far. Florida Atlantic leading San Diego stayed by two.
So let's hope we have a full day of great
college hoops. As always, Adam, we appreciate it. Tim. We'll
talk to you next week. Oh you're not going to
be available now I won't. Yeah, I got a family function,
but I be with you in two weeks. All right,
very good, Adam, thanks so much. Appreciate Adam kaplan our
Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider. All right, let's find out
(01:44:57):
what is trending right now. We welcome back Monsey and
this is a really good basketball game going on. Is
it's a close one? Well, look, it's gonna be a
close one all game. Now Florida Atlantic is back on top.
San Diego is on top by one. Now they're on
top twenty three, twenty two, about eight minutes to go
in the game. But Matt Bradley of San Diego State
(01:45:19):
is a perfect four from four from the field. He's
got three three pointers already, so bad at tweet sixteen
and the elite eight and he started leading score. I
said he's got to shoot the ball. Yeah, he's been perfect,
been perfect so far and at a lot of game left,
so we'll see how this one ends. Following this game,
it's gonna be Yukon in Miami. That game is set
for eight forty nine pm Eastern time. But you asked,
(01:45:43):
what's trending? Brian Fenley just posted a video and now
we know why he's not here. He is at the
beach with his corgy and thousands of Corgis are at
the beach with him. I am so jealous. I just
I just responded, is this why I'm covering your shift?
I approved? Did he say he was deathly ill? And
that's why today? Yeah? Can you believe this? He's at
(01:46:04):
a corgy party at the beach. I'm very jealous. No, no, no,
I love you guys. Okay, back to sports. We've got
still baseball going on even no. I mean though, I
know we all care about the final four. Rangers still
beating the Phillies eleven to three, bottom of the seventh inning,
Giants still on top of the Yankees. Why five three,
bottom of the seven. Orioles are still beating the Red Sox.
But the Red Sox are not too far now. Eight
(01:46:25):
six is the score bottom of the seven, Rays all
over the Tigers twelve to two top of the eighth,
and the Mets are beating the Marlins five to two
top of the eighth. There's already been victories for the Astros,
the Cardinals, the Brewers, the Braves, the Angels who killed
the Athletics thirteen to one, the Twins, and the Reds.
It's been fun, guys. Back to you all right, Monty,
(01:46:46):
great job as always. Final. This game is now tied,
and we are talking earlier about maybe shooting difficulties. Both
these teams are shooting over fifty percent in this game, Bucky.
The Astecs are ten of eighteen from the field and
Florida Lennox nine of eighteen, both shooting in the bowl
well from three point land as well. We're all tied
to twenty six, so I wasn't sure if we were
(01:47:08):
going to see this kind of offense in this game,
but we are seeing it. We are spending game of runs.
It was Florida Florida Atlantic jumping out in San Diego
State making a big run, Florida Atlanta responding with another
big run in San Diego State making one, and so
we have seen offense in spurts from both teams, and
as it continues to settle down. I just wondered about
(01:47:28):
the pace kan San Diego State controlled the pacing of
the game because we know f you can shoot and
they can light it up and they can score in
a hurry. Well, if you watch San Diego States game
against Alabama and again against Creighton, the second half, so
they just absolutely wore both down. I mean it was
in the second half both those games that seemed a
(01:47:50):
little more up tempo on the first half slow to
a crawl in the second half as San Diego States
sort of asserted their physical authority. Um so I don't
know if that's going to work against Florid Atlantic. Look
when you when you have a record of thirty five
and three, I don't care who you're playing. He got
a lot of confidence. That's where the owls are right now. So,
(01:48:11):
I mean, right now, this has been a very well played, entertaining,
good shooting game from both these schools. So the idea
that somehow we're getting a B level Final four, No,
it's been good. This has been great basketball that we
have seen so far. Are your tire heels going to
be back next year. What's what's Uh, we're all to
way back. We're back. Oh wait a second, So Caleb
(01:48:33):
Love is transferring. Yeah, he decided that he didn't want
to be at Tarring anymore. He's in the past. I
think he'll look into UCLA uniform next season. Good luck
that he'd be great. Well, I mean, he knocked us
out of the tournament two years ago. Right here, some
big shots. I mean, I know that there was some
interest reportedly between Caleb Love in Indiana. He's from Saint
Louis and so that proximity would certainly work. So they
(01:48:56):
decided to invest their money in Baycot is basically what
happened in to of Caleb Well, I mean he Bacock
was getting his bag anyway. So it's just a matter of,
you know, you got a bunch of recruits coming in
and all that other stuff and just trying to reset
and re establish who they are. And so this will
be Hubert Davis's opportunity to really put his thumb print
on this team. Yeah, this is going to be a
year or my Bruins. They're definitely gonna have to look
(01:49:18):
at that transfer portal to fill a few roster spot
transfer into UCLA, like, do you do you guys do
That's not normal. It's not normal. It's not a normal thing.
They've had a few, but not I mean San Diego stayed.
Like I said, is a team that literally a school
that's been doing it now for several years. Their top
two scorers, both Bradley and Trammel, are both transfer students.
Bradley was at cal Trammel was at the University of Seattle,
(01:49:42):
and they took advantage and got them into an AS
six uniform. But I think this year it's a unique
year because, by the way, there's even talk Tiger Campbell
could come back for a sixth year. Wow, I mean why.
I mean he's not being projected to be an NBA
draft pick. Well, if you're not, you might as well
just get all of it. I mean Himie Hawkes is
projected to be at best late first roulbum it's like
(01:50:04):
a second round pick. Maybe you can convince him with
enough money to bring them all back back for another year.
Because Jalen Clark did say he's opting out for the NBA,
so he's a gunner. So then the one thing that
happens when you have there, you have the older guys
come back and you have fifth and six year players,
you have a bit of a log gym when it
comes to your young players. And so does that mean
(01:50:25):
some of the young guys depart via the transport for
portal portal that that's what you worry about window with
the older guys stick around. Does the young guys get
frustrated because it doesn't open up playing time opportunities for him? Well,
the three point shooting in this game has been outstanding.
Florida Atlantic in this game is five of ten from
three point land and they aspects are four or five.
(01:50:48):
This is not the game I thought this was going
to be. Well from I mean, doesn't seem to be
any nerves with these two teams. I mean they're just
knocking down shots. Yeah. From Florida Atlanta, this is what
they do like they are a three point shooting team.
They do it. Hit him in bunches. San Diego State,
this is Can they maintain their ability to shoot from outside? Yeah?
Well Ratt Matt Bradley just missed his first shot of
(01:51:09):
the game, So we'll see how that's going to affect
the Aztecs. All right, um wow, just pause for a
second here, thoughts of this Final Four looking at it
right now, I mean, by the way Jim Nance, this
is it for him? Is the final I wanted. I
(01:51:30):
was thinking about this as I came in today, about
your thoughts on Jim Nance as just an announcer. I
got to know Jim Nance a little bit over the years,
and he really is a very nice guy. I've always
gotten along with him. Do you think Nance gets the
recognition that maybe he has earned all these years as
(01:51:53):
the voice of the Final Four, voice of the Masters,
voice of CBS Sports, number one NFL announcer. Do you
put him in that lexicon of the al Michaels and
some of these other play by play guys you think
of him in the same vein. I think he's obviously yeah,
he's outstanding at what he does. I don't view him
(01:52:15):
as like those all timers that we talked about behind him, Mike.
I don't believe he will be viewed like the Vince
Scullies of the world. He won't be viewed as the
Jack Bucks of the world, as some of the great
al Michaels and those guys. But he has been sold
in that number one position for a long time. His
voice is synonymous with march madness when you think about
(01:52:38):
just the cause that he's had Masters events in those things,
but for whatever reason, it still doesn't resonate with me
like some of those other guys. It's interesting because I
mean he has catch phrases obviously, you know, a tradition
like no other the Masters. To me, Nance is a
lot like Dick Emberg used to be. Dick Emberg was
(01:52:59):
the kind of who could convey the idea that I
can't believe I'm sitting here at this event. Yeah, I
am so excited to be part of this and somehow
translate that. I wish you could be in my seat
right now. And I think Nance to some degree has
a little that's good. That's one thing because dick Enberg
(01:53:20):
I remember all of the calls. I kind of remember
the NBC calls when it comes to the playoffs and
those things and the fumble and all of that other thing.
I think about dick Enberg being Parrot Merlin Olsen. Yes,
that stuff um for Nance, I can see that comparison
in terms of like where they would rate in the lexicon. Yeah,
because it's good, it's solids whatever, but it's it's not
(01:53:45):
that next level in terms of like just from being
memorable in terms of what he did, he's on the
call and those things a tradition like no other. The
thing about Nance, it always gets to a lot of
people is a lot of times when he's got a
final call on something, it always seems rehearsed, like it's
not spontaneous, like he's been working on if this team
(01:54:09):
wins or if this game ends in this way or
something like this, I've got that line ready to go,
as opposed to some guys that just have that gift
of just capturing the moment, like a Vin Scully back
in the day, where he just knew what to say
or not to say in the biggest moment. All right,
So right now, San Diego State trailing by a score
at thirty two to twenty eight. We got four and
(01:54:31):
a half minutes ago in the first half of what
has been a very entertaining first half and his first
Final Four matchup. Our final thoughts on which schools will
ultimately be dancing on Monday. This is Fox Sports Saturday,
Steve Harman, Bucky Brocks, Fox Sports Saturday, coming Alive from
(01:54:51):
the tirerack dot Com Studios. I want to thank the
crew today. I was Sam, of course was delirious earlier.
I mean his his Iowa Hawkeyes will be playing for
the women's national championship tomorrow against LSU. Chris came in
(01:55:11):
uh and immediately attacked me, saying that there are no
American cities anxious to be saddled with an NFL team,
only international, none that will sustain them. Well, you basically
said that most the current cities, like San Diego or
San Antonio or Saint Louis, they don't want to be
(01:55:32):
It would be a burden on them to have an
NFL team. They have their shot. The idea of the
NFL going back to Saint Louis a third time. I
don't care how well the battle hawks about San Antonio,
the seventh largest populated city to country. Okay, okay, you
have to be realized us because Jerry Jones won't allow
another team. Also texts you're now asking all of Austin
(01:55:53):
to convert from being Cowboys fans. Yeah, well, I don't know.
It takes It takes a mean generation to translate, Like
only now in twenty twenties, some are we getting full
grown Panthers fans? Those were those were Washington fans for
a very long time. All I know is this, there's
not a billionaire in the country that wouldn't invest in
an NFL team. You talk about one of the wise
(01:56:15):
investments of all time. That's why the asking price on
the Commanders is that six billion and climbing. Yeah, but
they want the existing teams. They the idea of an
expansion team is a little bit of a bit more
harder pill to swallow, especially since I think there are
fewer and fewer markets to sell those two. Well, now
what you have left is Saint Louis has been jilted
twice and Toronto, which gets into thorny implications of a
(01:56:39):
kind of like with Europe, do you want players to
who want to live in Canada and be like, what's
that going to mean for Buffalo? And see, well, Canada
even allow it. They tried it back in the sixties
and Canada was about ready to legislate that only Canadian
football could be played in their country. If they Churis
will movie to London, you can, you can your London Monarchs.
That sounds fantastic in London and England. Mancy doing a
(01:57:03):
tremendous job, as she always does here rare to see
her on a Saturday and then uh, Danny, g Danny,
have you here today? Was remarkable. Yeah, man, it was
fun to be back on Saturday with you. You were
anxious to get to Bucky to get the Raiders draft
pick in What is your choice now for the Raiders
in the draft. You know, I gotta say I read
every single mock draft that's out there. Bucky has a
(01:57:26):
great one, he said Raiders Christian Gonzalez at number seven.
I agree with that, big dB. That's what the Raiders
need in that division. You cannot swing a miss at seven. No, No,
that's got to be a Bowl player, Pro Bowl. Yeah,
you came at seven because I heard the Raiders. Remember
they drafted clelland Farrell. Yes, they like they haven't made
able to recover from the drafted him fourth. Overall, those
(01:57:49):
guys that you're taking a top ten had to be
dominant players. Oh yeah, we're not talking about starters. We're
talking about Pro Bowl, Pro Bowl. If you're gonna pick
that high in the rapt Right now, Florida Atlantic has
opened up a ten point lead on San Diego State.
Keep in mind that Florida Atlantic is just the ninth
school since seating again in the NCAA Tournament in nineteen
(01:58:10):
seventy nine. To get to the final four seeded ninth
or lower. The previous eight all lost in the semi.
The lowest seed ever to get to the championship game
was an eight. Villanova, by the way, won it as
an eight back in nineteen eighty five when they stunned Georgetown.
Right now Florida Atlantic with a ten point lead, And really,
(01:58:32):
if you look at this game, it's been up for
Atlantics have been shooting lights out, and if you're San
Diego State, known as one of the best defensive teams
in the country, we've seen them make adjustments. I'm just
anxious to see what Dutch pulls out for the second half,
because the story of this game so far has been
the great shooting of Florida Atlantic. I mean, that's been
(01:58:54):
a difference. They have been knocking down shot after shot
after shot, and so if you're Dutch, you gotta figure
out way to slow them down. You got to make
them make contested shots, and I would say you got
to run them off to three point line, all right.
So thirty eight twenty eight, Florida Atlantic leading right now
a minute and a half ago in the first half
and then later Yukon and Miami. So who's gonna play
on Monday? Buck? Who are we going to see in
(01:59:16):
that championship game? Oh? This would be fun? How about
Florida Atlantic in Miami? Wow? The Florida School South Florida Final.
How much fun would that be? Wow? So where would
people go in that game? I mean, if you're a
Florida State fan, you're a Florida Gators fan, I mean,
where are you going? If you're you're mad? You're mad
(01:59:38):
going with Florida Atlantic? Probably right, you probably want. But
then if you're on Florida Atlantic, they win, they become
the national champs. They can go in any in any
living room. Yeah. Why would you go to Florida when
you come down to bulk Over Town and went chips? Wow? Yeah?
Changes everything? All right? Forty thirty right now, Florida Atlantic
Maybe in the last minute. By the way, Bucky, when
(02:00:00):
we get here next week, we're gonna have the third
round of the Masters going on? Are you a big
Masters fan? I do like golf. I do like watching golf.
I'm hoping for some excitement. Yeah, you know, see some
Do you have any rooting interests in anyone. No, no
rooting interests, Just kind of like to look at how
about Rory McElroy finally winning that first Master? Does that
(02:00:20):
mean anything to you? Didn't mean anything. Enjoy the rest
of your fight afore Saturday. Just keep it right here.
This is Fox Sports Radio.
