bad are the Oakland A's. We'll have a little fun
with that later in the show. Some wacky, wild facts
that would embarrass the sixty two Mets, all the adorable,
irrepressible Lebron doing Lebron things in the postgame press conference
(00:51):
held the bunk everything, He says, we'll do that much
later in the show Bernie's trivia game where he zooms
at midnight, much much more.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
And of course, hey, by the way, NFL, we've even
got some NFL rule.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Changes, and at the bottom of the art, I'm going
to give a tribute to a young lady by the
name of Anime Bullock. Hold that thought, Anime Bullock an
American icon. You'll know what I'm talking about when we
get to twelve thirty. You're not gonna want to miss it.
But let's start with the fact that in about let's
see seventeen eighteen hours from now, could we be seeing
(01:27):
something we've never seen in the.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
NBA were halfway home?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
And how fitting would it be for the city of
Boston to be the one to pull this off?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Remember the four Red.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Sox down three to zero, Kurt Schilling and the Bloody Sock.
Remember the Patriots, the New England Patriots down twenty eight
to three in the Super Bowl. But it's even happened
in the NHL. Yeah, back in nineteen forty two, Toronto
came back over our beloved Detroit Red Wings when they
were down three zip.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
But in the NBA been a different story.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
There have been one hundred and fifty teams that have
faced a three zero series deficit in playoff history.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
None have overcome them.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Ever, fact, just three of those teams, the two thousand
and three Blazers, the nineteen ninety four Denver Nuggets, and
oh yeah, the nineteen fifty one Knicks. They all came
back to force in Game seven, but all three lost.
Now the twenty twenty three Celtics, well they're not quite
there yet, but after a pretty impressive thirteen point win
(02:31):
Thursday night over the Heat, it feels.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Like you can actually see a path.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
And if we're being honest, this team might be the
most qualified to do it because all three of the
teams I mentioned prior, they were lesser seeds playing objectively
better teams, and they didn't have home court advantage. And
if you look at the metrics, if you look at
the analytics, and you know how I feel about analytics,
I think they're a guideline. They're not an inflexible anchor.
(02:57):
They tell you where you've been. They don't always tell
you where you're going, but it is part of the mix.
Boston's a better team on paper through the higher scene.
They've posted two routes now since going down three zip.
Thursday Night's game was never in question, and the Heat
acquiesced in the fourth quarter. They arrested their starters because
(03:18):
it was out of hand and at least for the
last two games. Jason Tatum looked like himself again. Jalen Brown,
he found his groove, found his stroke. Derek White twenty
four points, six of eight from behind the arc can discontinue.
If it can continue, then this could be terrifying for
(03:39):
the Heat. But it hasn't happened yet. Okay, so Game six,
let's set this up Saturday in Miami eight thirty Eastern
Celtics are favored by two and a half at this
point on the road. If they win, no question, they'll
be favored at home in Game seven, probably by eight
and a half. They'reabouts, Well, this is all good stuff,
(03:59):
and it's so good water cooler material, and it just
comes days after everybody tried to convince themselves that it
was going to be as sweet for sweep as an
outcome that you know, this is better though we don't
tell me you don't like this.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
This is better.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
So the question is it time for the Heat to
start feeling a little nervous, see, because after the Celtics
got that second straight victory and it was very comfortable.
Miami's at home now where there are expectations. But ironically,
when Boston has expectations, they don't.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Do so well. Now there's expectation for.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Boston and they're like eleven and eleven at home in
the playoffs in the last couple of years. It's funny, though,
how simple the key to the Celtics success is when
they shoot the ball from behind the arc, well, they win.
But when you start breaking shots like they did the
first three games, well, finally you get to game four,
and the law of averages always manages.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
To regress or progress towards the means.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
So they shot better, shot forty one percent of the
team from behind them, and they won easily. Now, Jalen Brown,
he was three of twenty five from behind the arc
in the first three games. But he finds a stroke.
Derek White, Marcus Smart, you get to drift. We don't
need to give a bunch of numbers on the radies.
Saw what happened when the Celtics are playing.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
To the best their ability.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
See the heat really need everything to go right if
they're going to be competitive. But they turned the ball
over way more than Boston did sixteen times the other
night to the Celtics nine, and while the rebounding margin
was basically equal, Boston only rebounded by one, out rebounded
the Heat by one, thirty seven to thirty six. The
Heat managed just seven second chance points compared to seventeen
(05:39):
for Boston.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
That's desire.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Miami had no second chance points until the middle of
the fourth quarter. By that point, the game was already decided.
And I haven't even talked defense yet. Boston's defense, on paper,
might be the best in the NBA. And they've now
held Miami under one hundred points in two consecutive games,
and the Heat only feel to score one hundred or
less and just one previous game. This entire postseason so
(06:05):
long and short of it is I think, to be fair,
you have to give a lot of credit to Joe Mizzoula.
Somehow he's part of helping to engineer this turnaround. After
Game three, he admitted there was a real disconnect between
himself and his players. He conceded he didn't know how
to fix it. But the last two games he's been
pretty good. And you know, this is a guy who's
(06:29):
got people looking over his shoulder telling him to get
ready to clean out his office. They want Mike Budenholzer,
they want Nick Nurse, maybe even Doc Rivers. God wouldn't
that be delicious a Doc Rivers reunion in Boston.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
But what did Joe Mozola do?
Speaker 3 (06:45):
He got the Celtics ready to play in Game four
and they were energized. And Joe Mozoola even credited one
of his assistants. He said, you know, the season's like
nine months long. We just had a bad week. And
you know TNT has gotten MIC's closer to their huddles
and you can hear Missoula sort of urging the Celtics
to be more physical. And if you noticed, because I
(07:08):
was wondering if there had become a real disconnect between
Missoula and his team, I didn't see that these last
two games. I saw the team making eye contact with him.
I see them nodding their head. This dude's only thirty
four years old. He's causing me to take a second
look at him.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
He had some quotes today. There's a lot more depth
to this man.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
He took over a very difficult situation this past year
earlier with Emi Aduca. You know what happened there. And
if somebody would have told you last October, hey, Boston
is going to be, you know, two wins away from
getting to the NBA Finals. Wow, that's pretty good, because
Boston looked like it could have been a dumpster fire
at the beginning of the year based.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
On how the season started.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
So I think when the game tips off Saturday, initially,
the pressure on the Heat is going to be a mess.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
They have to take care of business at home or
they get.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
They face the prospect to go back to Boston in
a Game seven, winner, take all against a far more
talented team, and you would imagine the arena in Boston
will be completely raucous. Now again, no team in NBA
history he's ever recovered from a three to zero series deficit,
But the Celtics, it feels like this is possible, and
(08:21):
there's you know, they're Their shooting has improved, their defense
has been more cohesive.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Everything's sort of trending upward.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
And one of the things we haven't talked about, Gabe
Vincent missed Game five with an ankle issue. I don't
know if he's playing Saturday, and they need him. But
the Heat still only need to win one more game
and they've got it at home. But it's not hard
to feel like the Celtics from the driver's seat. They
appear to have sort of shaken off whatever was holding
him back. They don't look like they're running a quicksand
(08:49):
the first three games as they did, and if they
keep it going Saturday night again, they'll be heavy favorites
in Game seven.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yes, they dug themselves.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
A hole, they struggle early in the series, but it's
now what happens, it's how you react, and now Miami
should be the team fielding nervous.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Remember the two thousand and four of Red Sox what Kevin.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Malar said, you better not let us win one, and
they did and you saw what happened halftime the Patriots
down twenty eight to three in Super Bowl fifty one. Wow,
well we won't go to the Toronto thing in forty two.
No one cares about that. But I will say this,
it would be ironic, It would be coincidental. It would
be fitting for the city of Boston to be to
(09:30):
be the team that would make this three zip deficit
one hundred and fifty and one, or check that one
in one hundred and fifty versus zero and one hundred
and fifty. I'm kind of rooting for a Game seven.
I always root for the story that would be a
story because no matter what happens in game seven. If
(09:51):
Jimmy Butler goes up and steals it or Boston finishes
it off, You've got yourself a hell of a story,
and you get yourself a hell of an NBA Finals.
I believe, even though I know the whole world would
rather have a couple of different teams. But anyway is
slice it. We're gonna have a good NBA Finals. I

Speaker 4 (11:30):
How you doing, buddy, Hey, Bernie, I'm great, Thanks for
having me.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Man, well, a lot to talk about.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
And before I dive into their chronology as to what
happens next, in some of the specifics of the bill
which I did peruse. We saw a rendering today. But
let me give you my impression, Alan, I want you
to respond. It's a rendering, but it doesn't look like
an architectural rendering to me, just a rendering of a stadium.
(11:55):
And the thing that jumps at me is when you
look at the field, looks eerily similar to the symmetry
and shape of the field and foul territories in Oakland,
and right off the bat, it just looks cheesy to me,
is if this was just Jimmy Reid been throwing together?
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Am I wrong?
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Well, you know, renderings are pretty much devised really for
promotional purposes, and this was more to me of a
promotional style artists rendering than a true architectural design. So
you know, if you look at if you looked at
the renderings, there's not a single original tropicn of building
(12:37):
on the site. And also this thing is not obviously
being built to scale according to the rendering, because they
had mentioned nine acres of a thirty five acre hotel
site would be used for the ballpark, and obviously most
of the site is kind of used for the baseball park,
(12:57):
and for the extension of the facility it was extending
literally from one corner of the site all the way
to pretty much Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Well, I made the same observation because they show it
from three angles, but rather than dwell on that, I
did peruse the bill and a couple other things that
jumped at me. You'll notice it doesn't really specificly mentioned
the Oakland A's nor a specific site, meaning that it's
my impression is is that this proposed site here is
(13:32):
not necessarily one hundred percent Am I interpreting that right?
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Yeah, that's an interesting feature about the proposed bill that
was introduced today, and that is it's not site specific,
which does open the door to this other location, the
so called festival site, which is up the strip on
the north side of the Strip, and in fact that
site has some backers as well, so it's definitely not
(14:01):
site specific. And after the legislation was introduced, as you know, Bernie,
this site actually was the second site that was mentioned
publicly by the franchise after negotiations already began going on
between the state and the team. So obviously this is
(14:22):
not set in concrete, so to speak.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Talking with Alan Snell Love Sports Biz Big News, today's
is being reported as if the A's are coming to Vegas. Allah,
let's dive into the most important part, what's next and
talk about a chronology. The first thing that has to
happen is this build draft request has to be introduced
by a lawmaker on the Senate floor, and they were
talking about doing that. This afternoon Friday afternoon, did in
(14:47):
fact that happen.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I believe. I think it's Senate Bill five oh nine
was introduced. I don't know. I'm from Carson City. So
it's scheduled for debate. I had heard earlier this week
that there may be a hearing as early as tomorrow.
I have not confirmed that yet, but at this point,
you know, what's the legislature scheduled to adjourn on the
(15:15):
fifth of June. I mean there is there is potential
time to to hash us out. Keep in mind that
you know, the governor gave this big statement yesterday about
the budget you know, got in place, and that that
could be kind of something that could throw a monkey
wrench into this. So you know, this is uh, this
(15:36):
is far from a done deal, and we'll see how
this thing plays out right up till June.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Fifth, right, and let's uh, let's spell that out for
the folks that are listening around the country and even
around the world. Are it's my understanding and now, and
you can correct me that our governor Joel Lombardo first
and foremost wants to ratify the state budget. It won't
won't address any other bills before that, and so that
could throw a monkey wrench into this. Like you say,
(16:03):
do you expect that to happen or do you expect
Joe Lombardado to bat and his hatches down on that?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Could that delay this?
Speaker 4 (16:10):
It could potentially delay it, you know, I mean, let's
face it, I mean his priorities are school safety issues
and school choice issues and reducing crime. People you know,
should should know that he is the former county sheriff,
So you know, he's a former police officer, law enforcement official,
(16:31):
So you know that's his orientation, and you know he
you know, he's a Republican. He defeated a Democratic incumbent,
and you know he's dealing with two houses you know,
at the state legislature that are Democratic controlled. So there's definitely,
to me, a little underlying tension regarding, you know, any
(16:56):
kind of threat to him from those two from those
two bodies regarding getting in the way of his budget priorities,
and that could potentially throw a little as if we
need like another plot twist in this whole ballpark.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Dround the Bernie so Wiland, I'm going to give you
the floor.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
I want you to give the folks a bit of
a civics lesson here, because there's a specific chronology what
has to happen long before there's ever a shovel in
the ground. This bill's got to be heard by a committee.
I believe it needs to be the Senate Revenue Committee
or the Senate Finance Committee. Then you're going to hear
from lobbyists, lawmakers, members of the public.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Talk about that.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Process, Alan, and how you see that playing out over
the next ten days, because they're really up against it
in terms of the clock ticking.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
This is really essential because a lot of proposed bills
will get actually a lot of attention before it's actually
in print. But we didn't see this, Bernie. We have
nothing on the mobility plan. And also we have nothing
from the public to explain where the money is coming
from for the three hundred and eighty million dollars in
(18:03):
government assistance that is going to this one point five
million dollar, thirty thousand seats baseball park on the Strip.
So it will go through committees, and it will go
through the you know, both branches in the state legislature,
and then you know, keep in mind, you know, you
brought up a good point about the location factor. There
(18:26):
is there's no site specific information regarding this baseball park.
It has you know, there's stuff about funding and such,
but the one thing which I think really has to
be explained to the public is where specifically the revenues
will be coming from to pay to pay back the
bonds that will be sold by the State of Nevada
(18:49):
and Clark County. Clark County, from what I understand, is
looking to be looking to sell one hundred and twenty
million dollars worth of bond. The state would be one
hundred and eighty million, so it would be put you know,
it would be pushing three hundred and eighty million dollars
in total government assistance. The public needs. I can't stress
(19:10):
this enough. They need to know where the revenues will
be coming to pay the debt the bonds, and that's
something has that has to come through, uh in the
you know, and really the fleshing out of this bill
as it moves through committee and and and if it
gets approved, you know, in assuming it does get to
(19:32):
you know, both the Assembly and the Senate and in
the state legislature, well, a.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Couple of things.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
The a's it's my understanding we'll have a free ride
for thirty years and having to pay property taxes and
then number one, number two. Uh, they're still talking about
this tax revenue district, whether it be payroll taxes, property taxes,
sales taxes, and goods and services produced by the stadium
are going to go to service that you think there'll
be enough revenue generated to offset that.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Well, that's the state. That was the point I was
going to bring up, Bernie. To me, it's dubious whether
this tax district, you know, assuming it's the quote unquote
thirty five acre property there. To me, it's still up
in the air whether there will be enough revenues generated
from sales of items related to the ballpark that would
(20:22):
be enough to pay back any sex any portions of
the debt, which is really important. You know. Let's contrast
this to the original site that was mentioned last month,
and that was the wild While West Casino site on
the west side of the interstate, probably a little less
(20:42):
than a mile down Tropicana, that was supposed to be
a baseball village. There was supposed to be bars and restaurants,
and they also had this this sports and entertainment district
concept at play there and at least there were seen
to be more retail, more potential businesses that would be
(21:05):
able to generate revenues to pay back the debt that
the public would incur in this particular case, Let's face it.
You know the site, Bernie, there's no shortage of restaurants
and bars within a quarter mile of the athletics baseball site.
You know, right at the corner. It's one of the
(21:25):
busiest intersections in the world in Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Yeah, Alan, just got about a minute. What do you
expect to have between now and next week? In next
Saturday is June third, and again the legislative session jurms
the fifth. What do you expect to happen between now
and next Saturday.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
I think there'll be more skeptical public debate about this.
I think this will be much more up for debate
than the Raiders Stadium that was kind of sailed right through.
That was in twenty sixteen, and I expect to be
I've got to see some really spirited debate in Carson
City regarding this bill. This is going to be a
(22:06):
lot more controversial, and I think the a's ability to
push us to the finish line will be definitely more
challenging than what the Raiders went through seven years ago.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
I think it's well said.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Something in my gut and I can't even tell you why,
leads me to believe they have the votes. But stay loose, talent.
I may want to get you back on next Saturday,
the third, because you're on top of this and you
don't speculate.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
You report the facts. So good stuff, and let's keep
your eyes near his. Ope'll see what happens.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Hey, I appreciate the time you'd be well.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Bernie, thanks to's Aalens now LV sports Biz. He does
have his finger on the pulse of the East to
Vegas and from the mechanical standpoint of what has to
happen behind the scenes to make this reality. So as
we know, as real news develops, we will share it
with you. Coming up, I want to give a tribute
(22:57):
to I think an American icon up the real legacy
of endurance and research.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
It's her name is Anime Bullock. Sit tight.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
When I tell you the story, you'll go, oh, I
see what you did there. But first let's go to
our guy, Kevin Figures with the latest.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Okay, Barney Leftco's baseball Friday Night Red Sox snapping a
four game losing streak a seven to two victory at
Arizona as kikiir and Andez went deep ten strikeouts for
Hunter Brown. He is five to one on the season.
As the Astros defeated Oakland five to two. Pirates hit
seven home runs and an eleven to six victory at Seattle.
Mariners have lost four games in a row. Max Scherzers
(23:34):
struck out eight and seven innings, while Francisco Lindor hit
a home run, leading the Mets over Colorado five to two.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
It was a Marlin six and the Angels too.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Kevin Galasman picking up his first win in a month
as Toronto beat Minnesota. The Giants demolished Freddy Peralta and
the Brewers fifteen to one, home runs for Fernando Tazzis
Junior and Juan Soto helping pace the Padres over the
Yankees five to one. Rays beat up North Sindegard and
the Dodgers nine to three. Wins for the Rangers, Guardians,
and the Phillies. NFL News the Arizona Cardinals have at
(24:01):
least five time Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Speaker 6 (24:04):
All right, back to Bernie Fredo.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
All right, thanks so much, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
So often when I have the opportunity, I like to
chronicle stories of important people in our society, folks who
have become a true inspiration, people that I would deem
a quintessential American success story. And I mentioned the name
Anna Maria Bullock. Anna Maria Bullock was born in nineteen
thirty nine and she died this last Wednesday. You know
(24:35):
her as Tina Turner, and Tina Turner I believe was
the ultimate survivor in the end. I think she was
more than just a survivor. She was a force of nature.
I think she was very determined to live life around
her own term. She was always willing to pay the
price and all the time she remained humbled and modest
and had a legendary force of personality.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
In all of her performance.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
And this is an individual who had a tremendous commanding
stage presence, a very powerful voice, and in her life
up until the age of seventy three, she believed she'd
never been loved in her life. She died at eighty three.
She was in Switzerland. She'd had a second marriage after
I Turner.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
She faced a lot of abuse.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
In her life, and Oprah Winfrey once interviewed her and
asked her what her legacy was, and her answer she said,
quote endurance. My legacy is that I stayed the course
from beginning to end because I believed in something inside
of me that told me you can always get better,
where you could make something better, and I wanted better.
And so I think Tina Turner said it best. She said,
my legacy is a person that's strived for wanting it
(25:42):
better and got it. And she started very humble, beginning
singing in church and she would then begin sing. You know,
she started to frequent the nightclubs and that's how she
met Ike Turner and Tina lived. You know, she suffered
in silence for much of that relationship. Ike Turner was
a powerful force, but allegedly a cocaine addict, and her
(26:04):
life was hell in that situation. Finally, in nineteen seventy six,
with no money nowhere to go, she bolted in Dallas
filed for divorce, and that was basically the apex of
her autobiography. And if you saw the movie whereby her
life was chronicled by the actress Angela Bassett, Tina Turner
(26:26):
basically started.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Over at forty years old, I mean thirty seven years
old with nothing. She was broke.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
She started below the bottom and she took any kind
of job she could get just to pay the rent.
But within about three or four years she started to
dominate the airwaves. She had her best work in her
eighties and nineties, and she never stopped. She was relentless.
She would work overseas, she would appear in movies. She
was mad Max. She got part of the Mad Max Sarta.
(26:57):
And even though she retired, she's been retired twenty years,
she did have a farewell tour in two thousand and eight,
and by then she was already living in Switzerland. She
believed that was a kindred spirit for her and it
was good to her. And so I want to give
Tina Turner a lot of credit. She's an individual who
rolls from the ashes. She had a de real career,
a derail personal life. She had no money, and she
rose to a renaissance, not just in the annals of entertainment,
(27:20):
but in the annals of American history. And that's what
that's what makes this country great, I believe, and I
think when you observe a life lived like Tina Turner,
it needs to be recognized and congratulated. Coming up, you
know Roger Goodell. They're talking about re upping his contract.
(27:42):
And when you hear the money that he's about to
get and the money he's already made and where he
started when he took over as commissioner in two thousand
and six, it will definitely leave you scratching your head.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
We'll share that with you.
Speaker 3 (27:56):

Bernie's backcard bunkin bets week ad Bernie's Trivia Game it's
eating up. Will take the first six callers, do not
miss out eight seven, seven nine to nine six nine
(28:56):
six or six three six nine. I'm sorry eight seven seven,
nine nine six six three six ' nine eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox. Don't miss out. It's been
a great contest the first seven weeks. It's still not decided.
We do have a leader. We have new people emerging again.
Eight seven, seven, nine ninety six six three sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Dial them up. Be one of the first six.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Ethan will take your call and we'll have all kinds
of fun for the whole family, like Roger Goodell is
about to have. By the way, we're gonna get into
this later in the show. The NFL adjust the fair
catch rule for kickoffs in twenty twenty three, and I
know why they did it because twenty five percent of
all concussions are directly related to kickoffs, and the NFL
has already made a one billion dollar settlement, so they
(29:43):
don't want to do it anymore. And I don't like this.
I hate this rule. Listen, football is a violent game.
A kickoff is a big part of the game. You know,
if they're really worried about player safety. There are other
things they can do. This is not one of them,
in my humble opinion. In case you missed it, you know,
you can take a fair catch and the balls put
in play at the twenty five yard line. And it's
(30:06):
only set for the twenty twenty three season, so we'll see.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
How it works.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
And the Competition Committee submitted the rule and the ideas
and prove player safety. But that just feels it feels
a little disingenuous to me.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
But this is all under.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
The legacy and guys of Roder Goodell and per front
Off of sports Roder Goodell. Well, guess what his next
contract extension if they come to the terms they're talking about.
Believe it or not, when all is said and done,
Roger Goodell's next contact extension could could take his career
earnings as NFL commissioner.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Now, he's been commissioner since oh six. He was hired
in No. Six over three quarters of a billion dollars. Now,
the league wants to keep Goodell. His deal expires at.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
The end of twenty twenty four, and they at this
point they're talking about extending Goodell three more years, which
would keep him in place through twenty twenty seven, and
that's when he turned sixty seven, and that, by consensus,
is the time which most insiders believe he'll move on.
(31:13):
He'll hang around to twenty twenty seven. They'll turn sixty
seven into ry Offfen to the senset with seven hundred
and fifty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Now, Goodell's been around since six.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
I remember his introductory pros conference because it was at
Super Bowl forty in Detroit, and he got up to speak,
and it's why Rob Parker went to ask him a
question and Goodell interrupted him, and Rob didn't like it
too much, and it was kind of funny. It was
an inauspicious start. But Goadell was hired in oh six.
Here's why I brought that up. His compensation that year
(31:44):
was six point five million. Now let's put that into perspective, okay,
because his most recent annual salary is believed to be
about sixty four million, which means Goodell's pay has increased tenfold.
Says taking over the NFL's top job sixteen years ago,
seventeen years ago, this latest deal, could I mean you
(32:09):
hear about the money that some of that you know,
to what Tiger.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Woods has made what Lebron's made.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Godell's gonna damn near be in that territory, and I
mean up in the stratus here. The people who did
this research, they use NFL's tax filings from two thousand
and sixty to twenty fifteen and various other reports since.
So the league gave up its taxi xemp status, and
so the conservative estimate believes that through twenty twenty three,
(32:36):
his earnings to date about five hundred million, so only
about half a billion, But by twenty twenty seven he
could be expected to easily eclipse seven hundred million in
earnings or even more, given the league's growing revenue, and
a lot of Goodell's compensation is tied to revenue, Like
(33:00):
you know, there's deals like the ten million check, that
ten billion dollar bundle of annual media rites that are
going to be you know, added to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Coffers over the next ten years.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Now there's even talk because the money keeps flowing, and
it's always been Goodell's mission in charter to grow the
NFL into a twenty five billion dollar industry. Some owners
might want Goddel to stay past twenty twenty seven and
here's why you can't rule that out because they've talked
about retirement. They speculated retirement before. As a matter of fact,
(33:32):
when two deals ago, when the Goodell he had talked
about walking away in twenty seventeen at age fifty seven,
but he backed away from that idea. And a gentleman
by the name of Joe Lockhart, he's a former NFL
communications executive. He thought this current deal would be Goodell's last.
(33:55):
But Goodell is not going anywhere. I think you are
going to see him through twenty seven. And just by
the way, just to give that some perspective, how does Goodell,
you know, fare against his current commissioner contemporaries, well, Major
League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred. I mean he's you know,
he's not going to be in a breadline anytime soon.
(34:17):
He makes about seventeen million a year and Adam Silver
makes about ten million a year and Goodell sixty four
million a year. Maybe that's why the NFL ticket prices.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Per team is surging through the roofs.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
A matter of fact, the announcement of Aaron Rodgers to
the Jets caused New York Jet ticket prices to serge
on the secondary market over forty percent, and then to
compare that to when Tampa Bay announced Tom Brady's retirement,
they dropped forty percent. So obviously a lot of folks
get their ticket prices on the secondary market.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
And once the twenty three to twenty four schedule.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Was released a couple of weeks ago, guess which city,
for the third straight year, has the highest ticket price
per average. Yes, your Las Vegas Raiders. So if you're
planning on coming to Las Vegas and seeing one of
the eight home games in twenty twenty three, the data
(35:21):
release this past week indicates that the average ticket price
is one thousand, thirty five dollars. That's about two hundred
dollars more expensive per ticket than the number two team.
Believe it or not, it's the New England Patriots eight
hundred and six dollars, and way above the third most
expensive team, the Philadelphia Eagles at six hundred and forty
(35:42):
two dollars. And that's a big number for Philadelphia because
they saw their average ticket price rise ninety seven percent
following the Super Bowl. Now, the least expensive team the
Indianapolis Colts, their tickets are only averaging two hundred and
thirty dollar per ticket on the secondary market.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Come on, man, you.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Showing Anthony Richardson any love, but if you want to
go see him, you pay two hundred and thirty per
ticket on average in a secondary market versus one thousand
dollars a ticket to see Jimmy g Second behind the
Colt says the least expensive. The New Orleans Saints no
love to Derek car two hundred and fifty two dollars
a ticket. Baltimore checks in at two to eighty four average,
(36:25):
and the Washington Commanders at two ninety six. Again back
to the New York Jets. They had their fourth biggest
year over year boost almost fifty percent from the year before.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
And we know why.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Sarah Rodgers is the star driven league strain calf or not.
I don't even believe he had a strained calf. I
think he just wanted the day off. We'll see. So
we are a far cry from the bounce back after
the COVID nineteen policies and limit stadium capacity. And you
know the divisional round last year's playoffs. If you wanted
(36:59):
to see the forty nine ers against the Cowboys, wow,
that average ticket was fourteen hundred bucks. And if you
wanted to go to the Super Bowl. On the secondary market,
the average ticket was almost nine thousand dollars. That's incredible,
all right, But again back to the Patriots, six hundred
and sixty seven dollars. That's the average price of a
(37:21):
ticket to their opening season night against the Eagles. That's
the most expensive game of the season. So anyway you
slice it, the.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
NFL is in.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Is swimming and dope, and it's not gonna end anytime soon,
all right. Eight seven, seven nine, six six three six nine.
Bernie's Trivia Game Week eight resumes. We should really call
it Eaton's game. He's the one who did all the
hard work putting this together. He comes up with all
the trivia questions and the bets we're gonna take the
first six callers. Eaton puts out the standings every Monday,
(37:54):
and the game is is picked up a lot of steams.
So the phone lines are open. Don't get shut out.
Here's your chance to dial in, by the way, real quickly.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
One.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
I want to digress for just a second. I would
really get a kick if Miami ends up making the
NBA Finals, because just like I just talked about the
Tina Turner story, right, people that are down and out,
you write them off. I guarantee you on Christmas Day
you rode off the Miami Heat. You weren't talking about them.
They were sixteen and seventeen. The record was sixteen and seventeen.
(38:24):
They were ninth in the East. They weren't a hell
of a lot better at the All Star break. Yes,
they were five games over five hundred to Miami Heat.
That was good enough for seventh place in the East.
Well some ofw The Hawks managed to hang around, get
through their injuries, fight their way into the playing game,
and they promptly lost to the Atlanta Hawks.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Remember they lost to the Atlanta Hawks.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Then they had to come back and win, and now
they are just one went away from getting to the
NBA Finals, and in the first round. Let's also not
forget they lost Tyler Herro for their third lead score,
their best three point shooter in Game one against the Bucks,
the number one seed. Remember that they still came back
and fought their way. They have they have a three
zero lead. They've not got a three to two lead.
(39:06):
Teams that have a three zero lead so far in
the NBA in history, one hundred and fifty do we'll
see if Boston can break that streak Saturday and then
again Monday. All right, eight eight seven seven nine nine
six six three six nine, let me not mush mouth
that eight seven seven nine nine six six three six
nine Fox Bernie's Backyard bunkin Bence.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Ethan'll take your calls. We'll have great fun for the
whole family.

come back and do it.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
So let's roll.
Speaker 8 (40:52):
All right, Tim, I'm gonna give you a trivia question.
Speaker 9 (40:55):
You're gonna get seven seconds, and you're gonna respond, and
if you don't get it right, Bernie's gonna get a shot.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
So there we go.
Speaker 9 (41:01):
What was the name of the hockey team in Georgia
from the years nineteen ninety nine to twenty eleven. You

All good?
Speaker 9 (41:38):
You still get one hundred points. So that was great, great, great, great.
Guess on the Atlanta Bernie, you're gonna say something.

Heat for five thirty Pacific eight thirty etern game. The
Celtics are currently minus two and a half. We'd be
taking the Celtics minus two and a half or the
Heat plus two and a half.
Speaker 8 (42:08):
The Heat are currently up three to two in the series.
Speaker 10 (42:11):
I'll take the Heat, all right, the Heat.
Speaker 3 (42:13):

Speaker 9 (42:55):
In nineteen ninety four, the Soccer World Cup took place
in the United States. The finals took place in which
stadium in the United States? Oh, that was in Los Angeles,
and then yeah, the stadium at the call of Cam
I had to be the coll of Tam.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
I was actually was at.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Yeah. I will never forget because I covered the World
Cup in the first four games in the Silver Dome
and that was.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Of course Italy.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
They lost to Brazil what we called in a penalty shootout.
I called it Boggio's missed shot. Scene around the world.
That was crazy, man, eighty five degrees that day in
the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 9 (43:36):
All right, man, great game, and as I knew I
was going to trick someone with that, I knew it.
I was like everything at the Los Angeles all right,
here we go.
Speaker 8 (43:44):
We're going to go to the MLB.
Speaker 9 (43:47):
The Blue Jays take on the Twins tomorrow during the
day for an eleven to ten a m two to
ten Eastern start.
Speaker 8 (43:53):
Is currently a pick them.
Speaker 9 (43:55):

Jays of the twenty six and twenty five Twins.
Speaker 12 (44:01):
But that's a yeah, that's a good question. Uh, I
just wanted to know what picture gonna.
Speaker 9 (44:08):
It's gonna be Bassett for the Blue Jays and Pablo
Lopez for the Twins.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Well, you know what, I'm gonna go with a better team,
and uh you know it's a victim and I'm gonna
go with the home thing.
Speaker 11 (44:20):
Let's go with Loez, let's go with Lopez.
Speaker 9 (44:22):
Everyone's throw with awesome, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
I'm gonna take the other side. Basket's got a microscopic area,
and the Blue Jays had a team meeting. They're starting
to figure it out. I like what the Twins are doing,
but I'll go I'll go with basstt he's five and three,
Lopez under five hundred, so while we'll go with.

What NFL team only he has its logo on one
side of the helmet.
Speaker 10 (45:04):
Well one side of the helmet.
Speaker 5 (45:06):
Oh, I'm gonna go with the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
It's actually the Pittsburgh Steelers, all right, And I will
tell you it confused me for a long time because
I'm not so I'm not that smart. What's interesting they
did that it was going to be an experiment because
they weren't sure they were going to keep that logo,
but they tested it.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Out and they kept it, but they still never moved
into both sides.
Speaker 8 (45:32):
All right.
Speaker 9 (45:33):
Onto the MLB Tomorrow, or actually on Sunday, the Dodgers

Speaker 2 (46:03):
Who Who's I have faith in Kershaw.
Speaker 3 (46:06):

Well, Okay, here we go.
Speaker 9 (46:26):
I'm gonna ask you your trivia question, your trivia question
of the night. How many NFL quarterbacks are there in
the twenty first century since the year two thousand that
have won two.
Speaker 8 (46:36):
Or more Super Bowls?
Speaker 9 (46:38):
If you can name all the players, I'll give you
an extra hundred points.
Speaker 10 (46:46):
We're three of them.

Close, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Well, let's see.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
We got Tom Brady, we got Patrick Mahomes, we got
Eli Manning, we got Peyton Manning.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
Since two thousand, right, Well, Ben Roethlisberger.
Speaker 6 (47:05):

Speaker 8 (47:09):
That's it, that's it. It's five good stuff.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
All right, that's tough man. He strained my brain on
that one.
Speaker 9 (47:15):
You know what, I I knew you yet it Maybe.
Speaker 8 (47:18):
You call it to get it. You never know.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
That's a tough one, a tough one.
Speaker 9 (47:23):
All Right, here we go, Nathan. I'll give you a
best bet. We're gonna go to the NHL on Sunday.
The Golden Knights will host the Stars for Game five
at five o'clock Pacific eight eastern. Will you be taking
the Golden Golden Knights or Stars money line?
Speaker 8 (47:36):
The Golden Knights leave the series.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Three to one, Golden Knights.
Speaker 11 (47:42):
My brother lived there.
Speaker 9 (47:44):
Awesome, the game's actually Saturday, and I'm sorry, did what
did I say something?
Speaker 2 (47:49):
It's okay, It's okay.

If you tell me the league you get another hundred, the.
Speaker 12 (48:27):
City would be in Minneapolis and it's a.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
WNBA outstanding boom. That is big time good stuff. All right,
there you go.
Speaker 8 (48:36):
Thanks, that's great.
Speaker 9 (48:37):
So next, I got an MLB quest or best bet
for you. It's going to be the Brewers will travel
to San Francisco to take on the Giants for a
This is tomorrow, by the way, Yes, tomorrow, Saturday, we
will be taking We're taking on the Giants, will be
Giants Brewers. The Giants are currently twenty six and twenty
five Brewers or twenty six and twenty four on the mound.
(48:59):
Is low good Web versus Corbyn Burns for the Brewers.
The Giants did win tonight five nothing. Who will be
taking tomorrow?
Speaker 12 (49:08):
Wow, that's two really good pictures. And I'm gonna go
with the fact that the Giants have been really hot lately,
and so I'll stick with the Giants.
Speaker 8 (49:18):
All right, Awesome, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Yeah, you know, this is really a tough one for me.
Logan Webb's got great numbers, but he's under five hundred.
I'm gonna hold my nose and and go with the Brewers,
and they believe it or not, the Brewers very quietly
first place in the l Central, so I'll stick.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
With the Brewers.
Speaker 8 (49:35):
Awesome, all right, we appreciate you for calling in.
Speaker 3 (49:37):

Speaker 11 (49:57):
So fantastic. I want to say thanks for your buddy,
Lou giving me that kit Chuck prop that what a
what a fantastic best sounds good?
Speaker 2 (50:05):
Yeah, Lou. By the way, he's going to be out
next Friday to gambling Lu to.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
Handicap the the Standy Cup Finals.
Speaker 8 (50:13):
Great stuff, great stuff. We're looking forward to here. All right.
Speaker 9 (50:17):
Which state has the most FBS college football programs in
the country? And if you tell me the teams, I'll
give you an extra three hundred points because it's that difficult.
Speaker 11 (50:31):
Fbsy California. So I'll thank California.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
This actually is easy for me. I don't wait a minute,
I just popped off. I better get it right.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
The stars at night are big and bright, eep.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
In the heart of Texas, Texas.
Speaker 8 (50:53):
Yeah, yeah, that's good.
Speaker 3 (50:54):
They got a bunch man, I mean they got you
being schools you never even heard of. It's not just
tech in Texas, A and M and Houston. I mean,
here's a bazillion of.
Speaker 8 (51:03):
Them awesome stuff. All right, here we go.
Speaker 9 (51:05):
We're gonna go to MLB Sunday night at four Pacific,
seven Eastern. The Phillies are in Atlanta to take on
the Braves. The Braves are currently thirty one and twenty,
Phillies are twenty four and twenty seven.
Speaker 8 (51:19):
It'll be dal and I'm a Phillies fan.
Speaker 9 (51:21):
Dylank Kobe Bernie, you're gonna have to tell me about
him and Spencer Strider for the Braves.
Speaker 8 (51:26):
Who you're you gonna take in this game?
Speaker 11 (51:27):
Run is in Philadelphia?
Speaker 8 (51:30):
It is actually in Atlanta.
Speaker 11 (51:32):
In Atlanta, all right, I'll take I'll take Atlanta then with.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
Strider, which is my understanding.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Just to be just to be clear on this, I
thought Zach Wheeler was starting for the Phillies on Saturday.
Speaker 8 (51:43):
Are we sure it's at this is Sunday's game?
Speaker 2 (51:46):
I apologize, No, it's all good. Be nice if I
be nice, if I paid attention.
Speaker 8 (51:50):
No, it's all good.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
A lot of bags.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
The Phillies are the Phillies are really scuffling. I'm sorry, Ethan.
I know you're gonna smack me up Saturday, but I'm
gonna I'm gonna go with Atlanta.
Speaker 8 (51:58):
It's all good. I understand. It's hot and they're good.
All right, Roy.
Speaker 9 (52:02):
We appreciate you for calling in and great stuff. See
you next week.
Speaker 11 (52:05):
All right, got it?
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Thank you? All right?
Speaker 3 (52:07):
Great, great, great job everybody tonight, Ethan. You'll have the
standings up by Monday at five pm. Is that sound right?
Speaker 8 (52:13):
Yep, that's right, all right.
Speaker 3 (52:17):
I appreciate everybody's efforts. And this has gone really well.
These trivia questions are not easy. You call in, you're
kind of on the spot. You got the clock ticking,
and so this is all in fun. And we are
at week eight and it'll conclude week twelve and Ethan
will continue to have the stand the standings up by
(52:37):
the way coming up bottom of the hour, we're gonna
have a little fun.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
You want to know how bad the Oakland A's are.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
Well, we're gonna share with you some wild facts that
make the nineteen you check out the twenty twenty three
Oakland A's look like the sixty two mets that the
sixty two Mets look like the twenty seven Yankees.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
If you followed all that, you're better to me.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
This is crazy the numbers the A's are putting up
in terms of win loss run differential and all kinds
of things.
Speaker 2 (53:06):
It's really kind of ugly.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
And by the way, at the top of the hour,
I will get to the Lebron situation in my thoughts
as to what's going on there.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
In the meantime, keep it locked right here.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming
to live from the TYROC dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas, Nevada. Not Nevada, Nevada. Where the Oakland A's
(53:42):
might make their home in twenty twenty seven, we shall see,
but currently they make their home in Oakland. And the
longer the season goes on, the more the Oakland A's
are going to be compared to the nineteen sixty two Mets.
But the sixty two expansion Mets, who win forty in
one hundred and twenty in their inaugural season, managed by
the legend Casey Stengel, there was something about that team
(54:06):
that was lovable. They had sort of a panache, they
had a sort of a flare about them, and they
just did things that really entertained you, even if they
weren't winning. Here's an example. They had a rookie shortstop
by the name of Eliot Chacone. He was a really
dazzling fielder, but he had a tremendous lack of awareness,
and that lack of awareness was typically on display with
(54:27):
such raw efficiency. There are stories that are almost too
absurd to believe, but they are true. For instance, whenever
a pop fly floated into left center field well Chacone,
he would pursue it with a vengeance, often crashing into
centerfielder Jim Hickman, knocking him to the ground, inevitably causing
(54:48):
him to drop the ball. This happened more than once. Finally,
Hickman's teammate Joe Christopher suggested that Hickman yell out yolo
tengo eolo tango.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
See. Chackon didn't speak English.
Speaker 9 (55:03):
So.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
You know, if you say I got it, Chackon didn't
know what the hell you were talking about. So sure enough,
a few days later, right on cue, a ball drifts
into short center field and Hickman Jim Hickman, the centerfielder,
camps under it and he's yelling yo lo tangoyol tango.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
Yolo tango.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
You can hear him all the way to Staten Island.
And then sure enough, Eliot Chacone hearing that, peeled away,
which gave Jim Hickman's space to catch the pop fly,
and just as it reached his glove, Hickman was slammed
to the turf by the Met's left fielder Frank Thomas,
who conveniently enough didn't speak Spanish. But I digress. The
(55:49):
sad thing about these Oakland A's is Brad Pitt and
Jonah Hill ain't walking through that door. It ain't Moneyball,
it ain't funny Ball, it ain't the Bash Brothers. There's
no more of Blue, there's no more Catfish, there's no Reggie,
there's no Rickey Henderson, Dave Stewart, and I bring that
up because there was a time when the Oakland A's,
(56:10):
not just a time. Even in the last eleven years
they went to the playoffs five times. They're a reputable organization.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
I mean one three straight.
Speaker 3 (56:18):
World Series from seventy two to seventy four, came back
in the late eighties and one. They're competitive, they're relevant,
they've made the playoffs a lot in the last twelve years.
But this version of the A's they don't even have
a one game winning streak. Listen the last they don't
even have one game losing streak, is what I'm trying
to say.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
Right now.
Speaker 3 (56:37):
There are ten and forty three and their run differential
is minus one eighty seven. That's incredible. That's one hundred
runs more than the next team behind them. The one
thing they are adept at is when they lose, they lose.
They're currently in a nine game losing streak. And they've
had losing streaks this year of three, six, seven, two, five, three, five, three, three, five,
(56:59):
and nine, and none of them is a one game
losing streak. So when they lose, they lose a minimum
of three in a row. How hard is it to
go into this season without stopping a one game winning
streak When you look at the stats in the history
of baseball, I don't think it's ever happened, not up.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
To fifty games.
Speaker 3 (57:19):
And by the way, I will give them credit, they
actually did have one winning streak of two. They did
have a two game winning streak that happened one time.
All right, we are talking about futility that goes back
to the eighteen ninety nine Cleveland Spiders and again the
sixty two Mets.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
Here's another thing that'll make you scratch your head.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
The A's have trailed at some point in every single
game but two. And they've won ten games. But even
in those games, they trailed, and you know, all of
them were at one point, so in eight of them
they didn't take the lead for good until the eighth.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
In y or later.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
And in six of them they had a lead from
between one run and six runs but blew the lead.
And in one of those games they managed to actually
pull off a victory.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
And then the weirdest tidbit of all.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
Yes, they've won ten games, but they have more walkoff
wins four than Tampa Bay, who has won thirty two
games but just has three walkoffs. Can't make the stuff off, folks.
But these are not so fun facts because only twice
all season have the A's made it through an entire
game without trailing at some point. The first was back
on April twelfth, they blew a three to nothing lead
(58:27):
against Baltimore, never fell behind.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
It was tied.
Speaker 3 (58:31):
But the other was May fifth in Kansas City when
they had a nine to two lead, then it was
nine to eight.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
Yes, they actually hung on to win twelve to eight.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
So you think about how hard that is to be
fifty three games into a season and find yourself trailing
in forty three of them. Now, Baseball Reference keeps a
you know, keeps these stats and it's this is incredibly rare.
Here's another beauty for you fantasy lovers. The Oakland Ads
pitching staff, they're ERA, they're culative. E are on the
road is eight point seven three. Now their temy area
(59:03):
is about seven periods, so look it doesn't matter if
they're home around the road. This is like mind boggling stuff.
And so you know, basically, you take a guy like
big poppy David Ortiz, who who's put up massive numbers
in his career, the cumulative when the A's go on
(59:26):
the road. What this is essentially saying he's at every
hitter against the A's on the road and they're eight
point seven three ra based on the metrics, has become
David Ortiz.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
There's no deed to ask.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
I mean, if you got an eight point seven three
road eight yeah, I would it be a record.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
I wouldn't merely break the record. He would break the
record by three total runs. Three total runs and you
gotta go back a long way. I think it's nineteen thirteen.
This is crazy, all right. They're starting rotation has a
seven point.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Five our era. They're having a little over four and
two thirds.
Speaker 3 (59:59):
Innings to start. That's not real good. Of course, that
may not be bad news. You want to get him
out of there as soon as possible. And the A's hitters, well,
they've scored one hundred and seventy three runs this year,
but the opposing teams in those first four and two
thirds innings have scored one hundred and ninety one runs
just against the Oakland starting rotation in four and.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
Two thirds innings.
Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
By the way, the only tea you know, it's a
good thing the Royals. They get to play the Royals
because the A's had a starting pitcher in their first
thirty two games not managed to have a single win
until they finally ran into the thirty two the Kansas
City Royals, which coincidentally, the A's used to be in
Kansas City, now the nineteen ninety six Tigers, the team
(01:00:43):
I covered that was a brutal team, terrible team, lost
one hundred games. They had a pitcher by the name
of Felipe Lera. He had a Reira at six point
sixty four. And and you know, I think I haven't
seen the individual eras, but their starters again one and
twenty two with a seven point nine to seven ERA,
you've really got to go deep into the cookie jar.
(01:01:05):
They're giving up ten runs. They've given up ten runs
fifteen times already in fifty three games. That's just incredible.
We're going to continue on with this folly because the
A's might move here, and I think it's time to
bring in the crew to get their thoughts on what
they think about the A's moving here and how, you know,
just their impressions if they have observed what the Oakland
(01:01:25):
A's are doing this year.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
But first, let's go back to our guy, Kevin Figures
with the latest.
Speaker 5 (01:01:29):
All right, well, speaking of Major League Baseball, Bernie Friday
Night Pittsburgh hit seven home runs and an eleven to
six victory at Seattle, Andrew McCutchen, Brian Reynolds hitting two
of those long balls, Chris Saylee picking up his fifth
win of the season for Boston. They beat Arizona seven
to two, Horey selaira home run, and the Marlins victory
over the Angels in Anaheim six to two was the
final there. Astros have won nine of their last eleven.
(01:01:52):
They get a five to two victory in Oakland, as
Bernie just mentioned, it was the Mets five and the
Rockies two. Francisco Lindora a couple of hits in a
home run Craig Kimbroll picking up saved number four hundred
as the Phillies bed Atlanta six to four, Giants, scoring
seven runs in the third inning on their way to
a fifteen to one demolition of the Brewers Padres, handing
the Yankees their third street loss. Home runs there for
(01:02:12):
Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis, Junior Corey Seger a Grand
Slam for the Rangers. They hammered Baltimore twelve to two.
Wins for Toronto, Cleveland and the Rays, who defeated the
Dodgers nine to three. News Out of the NFL, the
Cardinals released Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins, which will Incordy
a twenty two million dollar dead salary cap hit this
coming season.
Speaker 6 (01:02:32):
Back to Bernie Fredo.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
All right, Kevin, let's keep it right here.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Just as an observer, what are your knee jerk reactions
about the Aides potentially moving to Las Vegas.
Speaker 6 (01:02:41):
It's sad but necessary.
Speaker 5 (01:02:43):
Unfortunately, First, I feel terrible for that area, the Bay
area in Oakland that you talk about. Over the span
of what five years, six years, they're going to end
up losing pretty much everything that they had, the Warriors,
the Raiders and now the Oakland A's, but they just
can't get out of their own way. The minutes apality
is ridiculous. You have the Oakland Alameda to have to
deal with the city and the county, too much red
(01:03:05):
tape to cut through, and that's a big issue and
has been a big issue, is why these teams are leaving.
But it's been nothing short of embarrassing the product the
ais have put on the field these last couple of seasons,
and I understand why the fans are upset, but look,
I think it's it's necessary.
Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
At this point.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
You play at a very archaic, to say the least.
I think I'm using that kindly stadium and you're going
to a brand new facility, proposed, brand new state of
the art.
Speaker 6 (01:03:31):
Facility in Las Vegas.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
So unfortunately, I think it's sad for the city of Oakland,
but I think for that franchise, it's a necessary move
at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Yeah, and you know, I will never know if the
Howard Terminal thing would have worked out. I saw those
artists renderings, the architectural renderings, and I think the city
gave the A's about three hundred and eighty million. I
don't know the specifics of the deal up there, more
well versed on the one down here at Ethan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Let's go to you. What are your thoughts about the
E's potentially coming to Vegas.
Speaker 9 (01:04:02):
Yeah, you know, all these teams are going to Vegas
right now, so these professional teams. So I just think
it's good for the trend, keep it going. I don't
really have a huge opinion on it, but yeah, that's
about it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
But when the team vacates the city, it's really kind
of a big deal. And I think that especially when
you have an iconic at one time franchise like the
A's have been there, you know, fifty five years. But
I guess look major League Baseball in rob Manford, they're
(01:04:37):
certainly trying to shoot on this thing. And I don't
even want to vote on this as early as mid June,
but Ethan, keep it here for just a second. Have
you've seen the A's play this year? Do you have
any thoughts about what you're seeing?
Speaker 9 (01:04:49):
All I know is they stink and I don't watch
them at all, and I don't think anybody watches them,
So I don't think it really matters that they're leaving
Oakland if you really look at the grand scheme of things.
Speaker 8 (01:05:02):
I mean, there's history there.
Speaker 9 (01:05:03):
There's history with the A's and you know, I guess
you could say that, but yeah, not much going on.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
There's history going back to the Philadelphia's with Connie Max.
They want to you want to talk about about real history, Kevin.
Just any final thoughts on the A's and the product
that's on the field right now.
Speaker 5 (01:05:20):
Yeah, Well, it seems like and I don't know what
their minor league system looks like, but the A's for
years were a team, you know, kind of like Tampa Bay.
You know, you cycle in some young guys who on
the upswing and they win, and then you have to.
Speaker 6 (01:05:32):
Tear it down and rebuild. But rarely do they have
to tear it down.
Speaker 5 (01:05:35):
This bout I mean, they're historically bad right now to
only have ten victories, and they don't have, at least
from a major league standpoint, a lot of talent that
I've seen as an Angel fan.
Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
Ice watched them.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
I won't say super closely, but I keep tabs on
the American League West, and you mentioned out bat. The
pitching has been all season long, and even from a
position player standpoint outside of Rooker and Langoleras has some
power here and there, but there's really not a lot
to ride home about. So even as exciting as a
potential move to Las Vegas will be, I mean, how
far are they from actually being a competitive baseball team?
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Again, yes, you have seen them.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
So the Shael angelierzer catcher was here in Las Vegas
last year, like the number five pick overall in the
draft by the Braves. But I think he's part of
the deal that brought Greg Olsen to Atlanta. Madelson, I'm sorry,
thank you, all right, good stuff, guys. We're gonna catch
you guys back top of next hour after I give
my commentary on Lebron. But in case you missed it,
(01:06:31):
look today, a measure that is the purpose is bringing
the A's to Vegas was introduced Friday in the Senate,
and it proposes that both the state of Nevada and
Clark County that here in Nevada, offer a public financing
package of up two one hundred and three internet check
that three hundred and eighty million to fund a portion
(01:06:54):
of the stadium. And there are renderings now on the
Internet from three angles. They don't appear to me to
be actual architectural renderings, just like stadium renderings. And if
you read the bill, it's really odd. It doesn't really
necessarily indicate a specific location. The location they're showing is
(01:07:15):
a Tropic Canas site on the corner of Tropicana, Las Vegas, Bulevard.
The stadiums facing northwest. You see the skyline, You see
the MGM over the right, over the right pavilion, and
you see New York, New York over the left field pavilion.
Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Look, but it's not there's gonna be a rift in
this state budget.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Okay, you have one of the things.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Let me get a little granular here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
A couple of days ago, a Democratic as stembly speaker
govern the name is Steve Jeger, not the former Dodger catcher.
And then the Senate Majority leader, a lady named Nicole
Canner zero. They basically had a press conference they said
they're not going to move to advance any public legislation,
including this bill for the A's until our Governor Joe
lombarr has signed the budget and that is supposed to
(01:08:03):
hit his desk this weekend. But Lombardo twice has threatened
to vita the budget because if it doesn't have what
he wants in it, and there are five bills that
make up the budget, and if certain key measures aren't passed,
then he won't sign the budget and that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
Could hold this whole thing up.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
And the legislator session is due to adjourn on June fifth, well,
June first is Wednesday. I don't know how this is
happening so fast, right, but there is a public financing package.
There'd be a limit of three hundred and eighty million
that would allow the stadium Authority to authorize up to
one hundred and eighty million and tax credits and then
(01:08:40):
there'd be bonds sold. And it gets a little granular,
but the steved or this thing together, and the bill
would allow the counter to pay those bonds that would
be generated through this. What's called a tax financing district.
And so you've got the stadium and all the revenues
(01:09:01):
generated by the stadium, sales tax, payroll taxes, you have
to pledge those to pay off the public financing. If
for some reason that didn't generate enough and the state
coffers were exhausted, there is a possibility. Do I think
it'll get to this, No, that we could have a
property taxes raised in Nevada. So I think there's a
fight ahead of us. My gut tells me. At the
end of the day, they got the votes. Just politics
(01:09:25):
is weird. I don't pretend to care about it or
know about it, but I do pay attention to it.
From the standpoint of somehow it seems like enough of
the right people who care want this to happen, and
that's why you're seeing it almost shoehorned in a way
like nothing I've ever seen. I can tell you that
when the Raiders Stadium was built, much different. Sheldon Nagelson,
(01:09:48):
a philanthropist, the CEO of Sands, played six hundred and
fifty million dollars. Once he got on board, he got
the MGM on board, he got sizars on board.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
These are par brokers.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
He took it to our Governor, Brian Sandeval all the
time he got the pow politicians on board. He convinced
them that by building a Legion field that it would
ensure and solidify Las Vegas as a first class, world
class destination city tourist attraction because there would be plenty
of other events above and beyond just the Raiders, and
that has actually come to fruition. At the end of
(01:10:18):
the day, Sheldon Andelson ended up pulling out because he
couldn't strike a deal with the Raiders to get his share,
but Bank of America stepped in made a loan. The
rest is history. Even then, there was still tremendous pushback.
There were people who didn't want that stadium. This is
quite a bit different, and so now the next week
should be very interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
This build draft request.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
It's got to be introduced by lawmakers and then you're
going to see lobbyists check in, more lawmakers check in.
The public is supposed to have an opportunity to weigh
in as well as the Clark County Commission. They'll be
a legislative consol bureau. They'll need a vote. All these
things have to happen in the next few days. And
by the way, the stadium's proximity to the airport here
(01:10:58):
Are International Airport is going to require approval from the
FAA before they can begin instruct construction. I don't think
that's going to be a big deal, but all these
things still have to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Coming up some.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
News this week in the NFL. The NFL pasted a

Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
They passed a flex scheduling vote for Thursday night football
by a vote of twenty fourty eight. So there was
a few teams. I can tell you that the Giants, Jets, Packers, Bears, Raiders, Lions, Bengals,
and Steelers. They all voted against them measure, according to
Adam Schefter, but the resolution still passed. There are some caveats.
(01:12:49):
Here's a deal Amazon Prime streams of Thursday games. They
only get two flexes. They're gonna get two flexes. They're
gonna be between the weeks of thirteen and seventeen, and
they must be done within twenty eight days.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Advanced notice. I mean you got to give somebody a
month notice, basically, and those two teams or those teams
cannot play to away Thursday night football games in the season,
so it limits it somewhat. There may not even be
any flex games this year. Maybe there'll be one, we'll see.
I don't think it's a good deal for the fans,
for folks who may have bought tickets in one of
(01:13:24):
those cities in those four weeks. And here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
It's again, it's one of those twenty twenty three experiments,
and less flexible scheduling is not applied this year. Basically,
flexible scheduling will remain in effect for next year if
it's not applied, But if it is applied, they'll review
it and we'll see if they continue it now in
two thousand and six. I mean, the NFL has had
(01:13:48):
flex scheduling for the Sunday night games.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
For seventeen years. Because you know how the drill goes.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
You look at a Sunday night game in November and
you say to yourself, wow, that should be a really
good game. Maybe those two teams stink it up, so
your rotated team and they're like last year, the Lions
were the beneficiaries of that they got flexed in with
Green Bay and the final Sunday night game of the
year because that game had playoff implications and the Allions
had become sort of a darling, immediate darling. And now
they are on their way and do the first Thursday night.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Game this year.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
But again it'll only be week thirteen through seventeen. The
maxic can flex is two games. And oh, by the way,
teams can't play two road games, and you're gonna have
to give twenty eight day notice. So we'll see the
NFL always tinkering.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
And you know why they did it. They know where
their bread's buttered. TV.
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
It's all about TV, and that's the way the cookie crumbles,
all right. I've been talking about Matt Eriza. If you recall,
Matt Ariza was cut by the Buffalo Bills in August
of last year, shortly after an allegation that was made
public that he had taken part in a gang rape
of a minor while he was still attending San Diego State.
(01:14:59):
Matt was considered the best punter in the country. And
I can tell you out here in Mountain West Country
UNLV plays. He was a master at Coffin Corners and
penning teams in tad to ten. He was an incredible punter. Okay,
while in college, he got a four year, four million
dollar contract by the Bills, but he was cut.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Fast forward nine months.
Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
We are now in the month of May, and apparently
the data and the investigation determined that he was not
president at the time of the incident that allegedly took
place in October twenty twenty one. And now Matt Erisa
has landed his first ever workout, not his first ever workout,
his first workout with the NFL team since being cut
by Buffalo had a last season over the gang rape allegations.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Say hello to the New York Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
The New York Jets are giving Matta Rasa, he's now
a free agent punter, a look and we'll see what
happens there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
But his legal troubles still are.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
I think the criminal aspect of his legal issues, believe
have been vacated to the best of my knowledge. Don't
know if it's one hundred percent, I believe that's the case.
But there was a transcript of the meeting between the
accuser and prosecutors that was brought to light a couple
of weeks ago, which investigators explained they do not believe
(01:16:16):
Eurizah was present at the time they alleged assault in
the San Diego District Attorney's office, so they declined to
file criminal charges. But again, his legal troubles are not
one hundred percent over because he's facing a civil suit
and according to Manta RAYSI has no plans of selling
this anytime soon because even you know they're because he
(01:16:40):
says he's innocent. I think there was an offer to
settle for fifty grand and he's he's telling people, I
don't you know, there's no way for me to know
what would happened, right. But he was recently did some interviews.
He said he holds nothing against the bills for cutting him,
and he doesn't hold any grudge against the investigators who
term and the user or false rape allegations. He just said,
(01:17:03):
I wish things would have been handled differently. He said
they did treat me with respect, but it's the climate
of how things are now. He went on to talk
about and he believed he would get another shot in
the NFL, and it appears now that that door is open.
I asked last week if that would happen, right, So
he got to work out with the New York Jets.
And if you look at this objectively, it does raise
(01:17:26):
a journalistic question, a question which should engender a conversation.
Despite the fact there wasn't a single fact at the
time or a single fact that was known or approved
about the alleged incident.
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
The Bills caved.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
In to the portion of the public who had already
deemed the punter guilty and they cut him shortly before
the start of the twenty twenty two NFL season. And
I think that is a topic that would be debated
for quite some time as this ends to you know,
as this continues to be fleshed out, whatever the facts
may be, the more they want to publish, you know,
as they said after Watergate, the people who weren't culpable,
(01:18:00):
where do you go to get your reputation back? He
saw what happened with the Duke lacrosse team as well,
back in two thousand and six. So part of the
NFL far this week matter rise of the best punter
in the country coming out of San Diego State last
year is in campus the New York Jets.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
We shall see how this plays out.
Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
We shall see if he makes a team, if it's
not with the Jets, maybe someone else, but it appears
he's been cleared. So this is America and we do
believe in second chances. We'll see what happens coming up.
Lebron James made it about himself. Keep it locked right here.
You listen to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports
Radio by the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. Lebron James
(01:18:42):
did what Lebron James does. He makes it about himself,
self serving, self aggrandizing, calculating, predictable, and vacuous.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Yep quote.
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
I got a lot to think about, to be honest,
Lebron said, just for me personally going forward with the
game of basketball, I got a lot to think about.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Well, of course he does. He's got to think about
how many more years he wants.
Speaker 3 (01:19:02):
To play, he want to play four or five? And
what offense will he and BRONI run when they get
on the floor together. As far as retirement, yeah right,
gona have to think about there too, because he's got
a plan his farewell tour. He's gonna be two years,
it's gonna be three years, maybe a three year farewell tour.
Plenty of flowers, you know, we'll get the marching bands
top flight, you know, culinary retreats, of course, and in
the street of nauseating speeches that only Lebron can give.
(01:19:25):
Plus we all know, if you listen, you really believe
Lebron wants his last memory to be swept in four,
missing the layup, missing the dunks, and failing to get
that final shot off. He played well Monday night. I'll
give him that he played hard. I think he played
all forty eight minutes. I don't think he wants to
end that way. And let's be fair, Lebron's legacy is secure,
(01:19:47):
four titles in three cities, all time leading scorer, the king.
Just ask him, the goat, just ask him. So what
the hell are we doing here? Well, apparently later on,
in a side conversation with some of the sp he
clarified it by saying he would he's weighing retirement.
Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
Would Lebron really walk away? All right? Just for purposes
of this radio show tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Let's talk about what possibilities theoretically exist that would cause
Lebron to be of the inclination to announce he's pondering retirement.
But again, there are hypothetical situations. So I'll give him
one percent of the doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
I think.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
I tweeted to say, Lebron retire. Yeah, sure, you got
a better chance of Led Zeppelin re recording the Gilligans
Allen theme song and selling a million copies.
Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
He ain't retiring. Not a chance. But number one, let's
play along, Let's have a little fun. He's thirty eight
years old, just completed his twentieth season. He's played over
sixty five thousand minutes. He's the all time leading scorer.
Speaker 3 (01:20:56):
He's had foot injuries that limited his play, he might
need surgery, and there are thoughts that eventually he'll shift
gears to pursue other interests he has. But Lebron Jays
James does have one guaranteed season remaining on his contract,
worth about forty seven million. He's even got a player
option for the following season worth fifty million. So is
(01:21:18):
he gonna give up ninety eight million dollars in the
next two years, which he might watch someday to go
toward the Biddy for his own NBA team.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
I'm gonna vote no on that one. So I'd be
shocked if Lebron was willing to walk away from the money.
I'd be even more shocked if he's willing to walk
away from the chance of playing with his son in
the NBA, which is the dream he's talked about for
many years and potentially a couple seasons away. Potentially set
that conversation aside it for another day. But that leads
(01:21:48):
us to another speculative hypothetical situation, which I'm also not buying.
That Lebron might retire quote for one year.
Speaker 3 (01:21:59):
Okay, now we're really getting we're really using our poetic
license here, but this is the stuff blown in the
wind that oh, Lebron announces his retirement, spends next season
attending every USC home game, sitting courtside as Bron. He
suits up for the Trojans, and then the Lebron appears
on his TV show and he makes some court set
(01:22:20):
appearances in some Laker games, you know, drinks a little
wine Gladham's people, where his sunglasses looks cool, and then
behind closed doors he works to get healthy and rest
up to return for the twenty four to twenty five season.
Then maybe he comes back at one hundred percent setting
up his return is farewell, But would Lebron really bypass
(01:22:42):
one more year of potential? You know, contending for another title,
if that's what their goal is, to only come back
at age forty, And you know, the real question would
be under this scenario, which I also don't believe, would
be whether a summer, just the summer of rehab could
get him back to the player he was prior to
his foot injury.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
He was more explosive, but he did put.
Speaker 3 (01:23:04):
Up some good numbers in the playoffs, and Lebron believed
if he was he'd still be better than ninety percent
of the NBA. Maybe ninety five percent, right, but you got.
Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
To get a man credit.
Speaker 3 (01:23:16):
In an elimination game Monday night, he put up forty
ten to nine, and he played every minute of the game.
And when he defended Nicola was he defended him. He
did not mail it in, and he even switched down at
Jamal Murray at one point during the game force twenty
four second violation. So Lebron played his butt off Monday night.
(01:23:36):
He flew around on defense and he carried the offense.
And you know he's I think he scored the most
points ever for a player at that age in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
I don't know. I think he'd have to look it up.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
So there's no question that Lebron maybe passed his prime,
but he's still very valuable and he's still.
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
A critical contributor.
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
And with Lebron playing at that level, if he's available,
on paper, the Lakers are potentially a contender.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
I don't think they'll go as far next year as
they did this year. I think they caught lightning in
a bottle. But the playoff version of Lebron is still
better than a lot of people in the league, let's
face it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
So if you really think Lebron's going to take a hiatus,
I don't think it's in the cards. But again, it's
what's blowing in the wind, and it's just you know,
it's just words, I think. But there's another scenario too,
that Baby Lebron was using this as a calculated, conniving
(01:24:37):
attempt to negotiate publicly. Because even though making it to
the Western Conference Finals was a huge achievement for the Lakers,
this year, you got a rookie head coach in Darvinham.
They had to reshape the team in midseason. They started
out two and ten, They almost lost in the playoff
game or the play in game. Excuse me to Minnesota
down two starters but even though they ended on a
(01:24:59):
high note, and I think you really have to tip
your cap to the entire Laker organization for getting to
the conference finals.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
Lebron talked about that as well.
Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
He says, I don't play for anything besides winning championships
at this point in my career, and I don't get
a kick out of making a conference finals appearance. I've
done it a lot. It's not fun for me. I
don't believe any of that, but I do believe he
would still like to win. I do believe that.
Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
So why the threat of retirement.
Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
Then, well, maybe this is his sole bargaining power this summer,
since he signed a multi year deal last offseason to
try to, you know, kind of strong arm the Lakers
into going all in, get some reinforcements. Please, if you
mentioned Kyrie Irving, are you out of your mind?
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
Really?
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
And I just feel so bad that Kyrie was so
disrespected in Brooklyn. Brooklyn disaster, Boston disaster, didn't in well
in Cleveland, and you saw what happened in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
They ended up trying to tank. And that's with Kyrie.
Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
My guy tells me, my most tell me that Mark
Cuban's gonna sign Kyrie and he's going to.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Stay in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
And you know, I don't know if I let Lebron
play at GM anymore. After the Russell Westbrooks situation. He's
had a few he's sworn and missed a few times.
But the Lakers do have options to upgrade their team. Right,
they have the seventeenth pick in this year's draft. They
can also trade their first round picks in twenty four
to twenty five and maybe even twenty nine to thirty,
(01:26:17):
And then you might find guys out there that you
can bring in. You know, you can dangle Malik Beasley
and Mobamba. They might be enticing in trades. D'Angelo Russell's
a free agent. He could be assigning trade option. But
I think above and beyond all, you really do need
to retain Rui Hachimura and Austin Reeves, although Reeves in
(01:26:40):
theory could have a value in assigning trade option as well.
Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
So with the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:26:44):
Listen, look, you went through a season in which Rob
Polenka and the front office basically brushed off Lebron's demands
as the season went on, Right, Polenka didn't offload, you know,
the first round picks and He even passed up a
chance to get Kyrie at the deadline last year, so
I don't know why we try to get him this year. Instead,
Plinkett did some very shrewd He traded one future protected first,
(01:27:08):
but he got and a bunch of scraps by the way,
and he got D'Angelo Russell, Ruy Hachimursey Ruy Hachimura, who
was tremendous I thought, and Jared Vanderbilt who did a
very fine job. Malik Beasley mobamba.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
It worked. The Lakers actually got.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
To the Conference finals, and many people Dick Wright just
about guaranteed they'd win by the tzarro, the telestrator Mike
Furtello said they'd win the championship. I never once believed it.
You've heard me on Saturday Nights with Aaron and Jason
Martin and on my shows. I never believed the Lakers
would get past Denver. But regardless, this is a glass
(01:27:47):
half full conversation. I'm just not believe in the Brons
gonna retire. And even though the Lakers got swept, let's
be fair, they were competitive in pretty much all four games,
and if maybe they had different enforcements, that reinforcements it
might have been better. Dever was a way better team.
And I told you in the bubble they didn't have
to travel and the bubble they had four months off.
(01:28:07):
If this had been in the bubble this year, that
might have been a six game series, maybe a seven
game series. But the culative effect of Lebron and ad
having to play forty plus minutes a night every other
night and going to altitude, I told you would have
a cumulative effect and it did. And of course the
fourth scenario, and this is one that is really just
(01:28:28):
borderlines on the stupid demand to trade?
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
Are you serious?
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
And now there's even bantering about Lebron could demand to
trade to the Warriors, Okay, And there's thoughts, well, Mike
Draymond Green begin recruiting Lebron of the Warriors.
Speaker 2 (01:28:43):
Did it already happen? Will it happened before the finals begin?
You know?
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Will these conversations happen if they haven't already from you?
We know Draymond has got a man crush on Lebron,
and they've got the clutch connection and the history of recruiting,
and there's interest between Lebron and the Warriors. Could be mutual,
which I don't believe. I don't believe the Warriors have
any interest in Lebron, and I don't believe the Lakers
have any interest in trading Lebron to the Warriors.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Yeah, he's a bff.
Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
With Raymond, and he's already said to Steph Curry is
the current player he most liked to play with. Said
that a couple of years ago, and Steph Curry frankly
dismissed it. But last year in the shop, Lebron's business partner,
Mavick Carter pushed him to share the team he'd want
to play with most other than the Lakers, and Lebron
said it would be the Warriors or the Heat.
Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
So there you have it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:28):
Is he maneuvering, is he bargaining? Is he just blowing
off steam or is he just calling attention to himself.
Lebron's human. He likes attention. He's not Bill Russell, He's
not Magic Johnson, he's not Larry Bird, he's not Michael Jordan.
Those guys were stone cold killers. Lebron wants to be liked,
(01:29:48):
and that's okay. Most human beings do want to be liked.
I just don't know why he leads with his chint
so much. But I believe that what he did the
other night was merely just a situation where he wanted
to do what Lebron does and call attention to himself.
I believe with all my heart he will be back
in the Lake our uniform next year. They'll get the
(01:30:10):
surgery on the foot. Lebron takes very good care of
his body. I understand he spends about a million dollars
a year just taking care of his body. And it
shows because there were period there were you know, there
were points in that in that conference finals where he
looked tremendous on both ends of the floor and he
did not mail it in. He played hard and what
more can you ask? But that's just my opinion, and
(01:30:34):
opinions are flying around and why not check in with
the crew? So I would like to hear what Kevin
and and Ethan have to say about this. What was
Lebron really doing Monday night? Do they think he really
would retire? Do they really think he would demand a
trade to the Warriors? Could you see Lebron anywhere else
(01:30:54):
but La where he gets to live in La and
go to all Lebroni's games. Just none of it makes
sense to me and I you know, as I said
in Texas, don't pee on your shoes and don't pee
on my boots and tell me it's rained. And this
just didn't pass the giggle test with me. And I
don't know why we spent so much time on it,
but I have to. It's the law, it's what we do.
I'm Bernie Fradle. We're Company Alive from the Las Vegas
(01:31:15):
Fox Sports Radio tire Act dot Com studio is keep
it locked right here.
Speaker 2 (01:31:18):
You listen to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports
Radio and The Bernie.
Speaker 3 (01:31:21):
Frattle Show Company Live from the Fox Sports Radio tire
Act dot Com studios here in Las Vegas. Talking about
Lebron's comments Monday night and the potential options for twenty
three twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
I'm on record, he's going nowhere. You'll see him in the.
Speaker 3 (01:31:36):
Lakers lineup opening night unless the foot surgery prevents that.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
But this is my opinion. Let's bring in the crew.
Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Kevin first, give your thoughts, your knee jerk reaction when
Lebron made those comments Monday night.
Speaker 5 (01:31:49):
Well, the only reason I would give pause to saying that,
And by the way, I will admit that Lebron James
and most things that he does is very calculated and
very prepared. So I do want to acknowledge that. But look,
it's been a long season. They got off to the
slow start. He's dealing with injuries, Anthony Davis was dealing
with injuries. They've been in playoff Molbernie's for what two
months left in the regular season, going all the way
(01:32:10):
into the playoffs. I think it was a very trying
and a very taxing year all the way around for him.
So I do feel in that moment that he was
being mostly genuine and thinking about his future. Do I
seriously think that he's going to retire. No, But in
that moment, fresh off of getting swept after scoring forty points,
being emotionally and physically drained, being injured with the tendon
(01:32:32):
in the foot, I do think you start thinking about
your mortality a little bit.
Speaker 6 (01:32:35):
So I thought that that was genuine.
Speaker 5 (01:32:37):
But after Cooler has prevailed ninety seven million dollars left
on his contract these next two seasons, he was never
going to retire after this year.
Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
And he still wants to play with his son, and
he still wants to win one more championship. And I
don't think he wants to have it in the way
it ended with his inability to get that shot off.
And it just seems to me, and your points are
duly noted. Who knows when your emotional drain like that
and you're thirty eight years old and you play sixty
five thousand minutes. I can't put myself in that position
(01:33:06):
because you don't know how you're gonna feel. But it
just felt to me that maybe the comments weren't that
well thought out.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
They were they were spurt of the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
What do you expect to have Let's assume he's not
gonna retire. Do you expect Lebron to be with the Lakers?
Could you see the unthinkable where he ends up in
Golden State something like that?
Speaker 5 (01:33:24):
Absolutely not, that's totally ridiculous. That's that's not happening at all.
He's gonna end his career at the Lakers. His son
is going to USC So if he has designs of
them playing together, we'll see if that disusses itself out.
But for at least this next upcoming season, he's not
playing in another uniform other than the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Now we're in a we're in agreement there on that Kivin.
All right, Ethan, Well, first of all, what are your
thoughts about the comments at the at the end of
the game.
Speaker 9 (01:33:50):
I think this is what he's gonna do for the
next couple of years. I think he's got two more
years to play, you know, his one more year, and
then when it's when Brownie comes to the league. I
just think that this is just him starting drama. I
don't think he's actually legit about his comments after the game,
(01:34:11):
like you guys are saying, it's very emotional for him.
It's kind of annoying in my opinion. I think it's like,
we don't need all this extra drama, Like why can
we not just enjoy the Nuggets win, Like that's what
a lot of people. That was a storyline a lot
this week. So that's just my opinion on that whole thing.
Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
It felt a little self serving. But let's go back
to the Bronni angle, Kevin. Let's start with you. Let's say, Bronnie,
you know he's gonna play at SC next year. I've
seen him play a lot. He's a good player, but
he's more of a complimentary player. I'm not sure if.
Speaker 3 (01:34:46):
He's a draft choice yet, but for Lebron to play
with his son in the next two years or even
three years. If it's not in La, it's got to
be somewhere else. How do you see that potentially playing
out Kevin.
Speaker 5 (01:34:57):
Well, it could work in their favor as of right now,
when who knows how he's going to end up playing
at USC But to your point, more of a role player,
seen as kind of a three and D type of guy.
Speaker 6 (01:35:07):
The projections I've.
Speaker 5 (01:35:08):
Seen so far and it's super early for next year's
draft is him being somewhere around a middle second round pick,
which that's gettable. If you're a team like the Lakers
and you have designs of being a competitive team and
a championship level team going into next season, you could
find a way to buy a draft pick or find
a way to move your maneuver yourself around in the
draft to make that happen. So it's not so unrealistic
(01:35:31):
because Bronni, at least as of now, is not considered
to be a top level prospect.
Speaker 2 (01:35:37):
But if he ends up somewhere else other than the Lakers,
and what does Lebron do.
Speaker 6 (01:35:41):
Then well that's a good question. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:35:43):
I don't think Lebron forces himself to be traded to
the Wizards or something, you know what I mean, if
Bronni gets drafted there.
Speaker 6 (01:35:49):
So look, I think that's his goal. His stated goal
is to do that.
Speaker 5 (01:35:52):
And there was another interview that Lebron did a few
weeks ago, I forget exactly who it was with kind
of softened his stance a little bit on playing with
Bronni and says like, this is this is my dream.
Speaker 6 (01:36:01):
I don't know if it's his son.
Speaker 5 (01:36:03):
So just the fact that he acknowledged that point, I
think he recognizes just how difficult it is to sort
of set something like that up.
Speaker 6 (01:36:10):
So I think he.
Speaker 5 (01:36:11):
Would love to be able to play with Bronni, But
ultimately if it doesn't happen, I think he's kind of
come to terms with that part too.
Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
You think those comments were genuine, Well, look, look at
the genuine part.
Speaker 6 (01:36:22):
Is he know he wants to play.
Speaker 5 (01:36:23):
But I do think at a certain point, you want
to do what's best for your kids too, So I
do think that part of his genuine I do think
he cares deeply about his children and their outlooks and
their lives and their futures. So I don't think he
wants to do anything to potentially harm that if he
can avoid it.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Yeah, I mean, look, I was rude for the story.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
I think seeing Lebron and his son on the court
at the same time would be amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
And I speak from experience.
Speaker 3 (01:36:46):
I saw Gordie Howe with the Hartford Whalers play with
his sons Mark and Marty. I saw Ken Griffy Junior
and Ken Graffy Senior play together. In fact, they both
even had a home runs right. So for this to happen,
don't underestimate how widely popular that would be. For people
to see. That would be an incredible accomplishment. Obviously, he's
never happened in the NFL before. I can't envision it
(01:37:06):
never happening in the NFL. I mean, I have never
happened in the NBA before. But I don't think that's
I think that's a dream that's gonna die hard. I
think Lebron will move having on Earth to make that happen.
My guy tells me Lebron LEBRONI sees basketball in his future.
I don't know what his ceiling is.
Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
I don't know. I saw Lebron play in high school.
Speaker 3 (01:37:25):
I was in Detroit. Was Cbsrie that I drove down.
I didn't cover the game in any official you know capacity,
I just took the two hour drive to Saint Vincent,
Saint Mary's March of BO three. He takes the floor
and the first thing and we didn't know a lot.
I didn't know a lot to energy. It's the only
what I was told.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
He takes the floor.
Speaker 3 (01:37:42):
I said, Wow, this guy's got an NBA body. It's
the first thing I noticed that he's bringing the ball
up Beflore. But wow, he's got guard skills and he's
got guard vision. And then the third thing was is
I said, wow, he's he's he can do anything he wants,
but he chooses to be a complimentary player.
Speaker 9 (01:37:57):
I go.
Speaker 3 (01:37:57):
I remember walking, I remember walking to my car thinking,
I think you could put this guy in an NBA
game right now and he'd be fine. And sure enough,
six eight months later, he was I don't see that
in Bronnie yet. So we'll see what the ceiling is.
But we're in agreement that he'll be most likely with
the Lakers next year. I think it's one hundred percent. Ethan,
you got the last word on this. Where's he gonna
be next year?
Speaker 8 (01:38:17):
I think he's gonna be with the Lakers.
Speaker 9 (01:38:19):
He's got his life here, he's got his family here,
his business, everything.
Speaker 8 (01:38:22):
There's no reason he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:38:23):
Leave, right and his son's going to USC.
Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
He's not going to Ohio State, he's not going to Oregon,
he's not going to any other school. So if he
plays with Brownie, he's gonna be LA or somewhere else.
What's gonna happen there.
Speaker 9 (01:38:33):
I'm gonna go with probably LA if it's gonna be
a second round, late first round pick, because the Lakers
are gonna be able to get that.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
I'll see you and I from what I've seen, I'm
not one hundred percent sure he's even I mean, the
NBA is an international sport. Players come from everywhere. It
blows me away how many tremendously good players are around
the world. And I'm not You know, Brian's a good player,
second team All League and is in the best high
school league in the county this year. So that's not
casting aspersions, that's just reporting what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
But let's see how this plays.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
Out, because he's projectable, and now let's just see how
it plays out. And again, this will be a fun
story to watch. Coming up a ton of stuff with
Chris Perperfet's World of Soccer. We've got the EFL Championship,
we've got a terrible incident and involving Real Madrid, and
of course, you know, Man City's always in the news,
(01:39:25):
and we'll get to that in just a second, but first,
let's go back to Kevin Figure with the latest.
Speaker 5 (01:39:29):
All right, let's go around the baseball diamond there burning
Friday night, Max Schurz are striking out eight pitch seven
innings for the Mets.
Speaker 6 (01:39:36):
They beat Colorado five to two.
Speaker 5 (01:39:38):
Red Sox over the Diamondbacks seven to two, snapping a
four game losing streak at Chris Sale with the victory
there for Boston Pirate snapping Seattle's four game winning streak
within eleven to six victory Pittsburgh with seven home runs
in that game, including one from Andrew McCutcheon. Giants nineteen hits.
They score ten runs off of Freddy Peralta. They Moley
wat Milwaukee fifteen to one, Houston a five to two
(01:40:00):
three in Oakland. The A's were just ten and forty three.
Speaker 6 (01:40:02):
On the season.
Speaker 5 (01:40:03):
Career saved number four hundred for Craig Kimberrel as the
Phillies defeated Atlanta Emmanuel class A with his major league
leading seventeenth save within a four to three Cleveland victory
over Saint Louis Corey Singer a grand slam for the Rangers.
They beat Baltimore twelve to two. They've won nine of
their last twelve games. San Diego's won four of their
last five. They beat the Yankees five to one, Yondi
(01:40:23):
Dias a home run for the Rays, who defeated the
Dodgers nine to three.
Speaker 6 (01:40:27):
Back to Bernie Freddo.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
There it is the patent and Mollywop yes, sir, all right,
good job. Then I'm Kevin.
Speaker 6 (01:40:32):
Thanks Bernie, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:40:35):
What's his significance of Coventry versus Louton Town seven hours away?
You're gonna find out coming up. And Chris pfets World
of Soccer.
Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes the international drama too. Yi,
it's all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 3 (01:41:04):
So, Chris, we have a tendency, I think to underestimate
the true revenue worldwide in championship soccer, as much evidenced
by the EFL Championship Game seven hours from now between
Coventry and Luton Tone.
Speaker 10 (01:41:19):
That's right, Bernie. Yeah, so this is the EFL Championship
playoff game here. Newtontown's going to be facing Coventry at
Wembley Stadium on Saturday. It's part of this final weekend
here at the final weekend for the Premier League. For
a lot of the lower leagues, their playoffs for final
promotion spots on the line. But to go to from
the EFL Championship, the second tier of English soccer, to
(01:41:41):
the Premier League comes with enormous stakes. It is known
as the richest game in football, and it earned this reputation, Bernie,
because the team who wins this game and goes to
the Premier League is set to earn at least one
hundred and seventy million pounds ten million US dollars in
additional revenue across the next three seasons, one hundred and
(01:42:05):
twenty million of that coming from the Premier League's broadcast
revenues next year, and then if they get relegated after that,
they'll get about seventy eighty million dollars in what are
known as parachute payments. These are payments made to clubs
who get relegated to try to help them ease that
sudden loss of Premier League broadcast revenue when they go
down to the championships. But if they stay up, if
(01:42:28):
they remain in the Premier League, that financial uplift could
go up to about three hundred and sixty million US
dollars a third of a billion to a club just
by staying in the top tier league. That is really
I can't think of anything better that is defining to
have and have nots right now of soccer in England.
It's to say that we are putting that much money
(01:42:49):
on the line for just winning a single game. I
don't think there's any game in the US that carries
that kind of paycheck.
Speaker 9 (01:42:56):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:42:56):
As a matter of fact, ESPN has gone on red
are who saying, well, one writer for ESPN that he
believes the EFL Championship playoff is the best event in sports.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 10 (01:43:10):
It is a chance to redefine your entire legacy. It's
hard to stay up in the Premier League, but for
a lot of these clubs, even just getting towards the
Premier League is a is a victory in itself. Life's
pretty hard sometimes the ESL. It's easy to fall down
the ladder even further for the right club.
Speaker 4 (01:43:27):
But if you're.
Speaker 10 (01:43:28):
Contending in the championships, if you're making those playoffs and
something's good is going for you. It's not the best
in the world, like you're not winning promotion out right,
you're not the number one spot. But if you're like
two to six, you have a chance to really set
your fate over the course about two or three matches,
and as I said, you know set your club up
(01:43:48):
for a huge financial windfall that can pretty much, you know,
change fates overnight, up end contracts and really really make
some people rich.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
And Sunday Mighty could be more exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
It's the final day for the Premier League and squads
like Everton and Leeds and Leicester are all finding themselves
in pivotal positions.
Speaker 10 (01:44:09):
Yeah, so the top the top of the table is
pretty much set. Manchester City won it this week and
I will I think we've discussed them at NOUS and
we'll have our Sunday spot on Manchester City on the
season they had. I think that's to the top. It's
more about what happened with Arsenal, but the best season
we've seen out of Arsenal in a long time and like,
look they're going to finish second. They had some injuries
(01:44:31):
down down the stretch. They come up at eight point,
you know, eight or so points short of the top
of this table. I think, you know, give it up
for them though, and that Mikhail Arted has really made
Arsenal a force to be reckoned with again. They're big
starboy off the soaka. He just signed a longer term
contract with them, which is going, which is fantastic. He
(01:44:54):
was I believe he's assist leader. They're assist leader on
the year and Martin Odagard the their goal their league
goal scorers and tasting as well. They are set up
very well for this transfer window to keep adding pieces
and just you know, if it was any other team
but Manchester City they had to compete against, Arsenal would
have this title. For relegation different story. Southampton is already relegated,
(01:45:16):
but it's going to come down to three clubs. See
who can survive Everton. Right now two points clear, but
on this final game Lester, they are so far ahead
and the goal differential. All they need is to win
and then Everton to I believe higher lose and they'll
be clear of relegation leads. However, in a tougher spot,
(01:45:37):
they need both Lester and Everton to both lose straight
out Everton, you just need a couple. You just need
to just win and you stay up, which I don't know.
This feels like the second year we've done this, where
Everton fans are going to storm the pitch if they win,
celebrating not getting kicked out of the Premier League.
Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
And let's not forget the Bundesliga League, a German league.
They have a very busy schedule on Saturday.
Speaker 10 (01:46:02):
As well, coming coming down to the final day. Yeah,
it is as we've talked about this before and in
past editions, Burnie neck and neck here only a single
point still separating them. I think I believe Dortmund has
taken the lead. So all they need to do is win,
and they will hold and they will end Byron Munich's
(01:46:23):
long long what do you call it rain over the
German league. It's a lead that Munich is held on.
To excuse me, Dohrtmann's two points clear. So all they
need to win. All they need to do to win
this is just just win their game. Munich a little
tougher they need for Dartmann to lose out, They're going
(01:46:44):
to need some help. But the final day is going
to be unbelievably exciting. Usually Byron Munich is cleaning up
this league very handily.
Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
So our final story, which is a very unfortunate story
report involves Spain. This is not new for Spain and
a player named Venetius Junior who has been the brunt
of something no one should ever have to endure. Chris,
tell the folks what happened?
Speaker 10 (01:47:11):
Yeah, this is this is this comes up. It feels
like on the rag when it comes to Europe sometimes
and it's probably the most unfortunate thing about the sport
right now. Vanisius Junior, who is Brazilian for a fantastic
player for Real Madrid, had to endure chance and and
mocks from a Valencian crowd this past week, you know,
(01:47:31):
calling him, calling him animal names that you know, just
just blatant, blatant, low, just in your face racism. That
seems to be the hallmark a lot of times for
black players who play in Spain and Italy as well.
Sometimes really, no no country in Europe is really immune
for this, but it gets really frustrating when it's La Liga,
(01:47:54):
when it's Spain League, because in a lot of cases
they just kind of throw up their hands and say, well,
we can't really do anything about it. The La Ligue
has already told people they don't have the authority to
impose punishments on clubs or fans and said they have
to pass along investigations the incidents to local prosecutors who
deal with them as local cases. Now that has resulted
(01:48:15):
right now, and I believe seven arrests. But this was
the tenth reported incident of racist abuse aimed at Venesius,
the tenth. It took ten incidents like this for finally
people to stand up, and the reverberation across the soccer
world has been tremendous. A lot of people across different leagues, coaches, managers,
(01:48:37):
players are all standing up, but it feels like the
song and dance we've done over and over again, and
it gets exhausting. Sometimes players will come out, they'll have
up a nice sign to say say no to racism,
rate kick racism out, and that's good, but at some
point there needs to actually be some meaningful action here.
Vnissia's junior, like there was a rumor that his cams
(01:48:57):
was telling Real Madrid that he wants to transfer out.
Now I know he just did not play in Spain.
Now I know that was shot down. He's committed to
Real Madrid. But it just shows you and what kind
of stakes are on the line. And I know feet
but in the past it usually comes down to their
sponsors leaning hard on them. You know, Lisa doesn't want
to be associated with this kind of stuff, Coca Cola
(01:49:19):
doesn't want to be associated this kind of stuff. There's
big money involved, and really, you know, if the leads
won't do anything, then unfortunately, it has to fall the
clubs to really, you know, have the communication with their
supporter groups, which are well organized, and tell them, look, guys,
you need to reel this in. You need to real
this in, and you're going to screw up a lot
of stuff. Games get played behind closed doors do to
(01:49:40):
racism all the time, but it just doesn't feel like
it's really having an impact. And I just I really
hope out of this incident we actually see some real
change to hold fans accountable to their kind of behavior,
because it just completely dirties the world game with its
ta behavior.
Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Well, and I would.
Speaker 3 (01:49:58):
Unfortunately, when hold my breath, there's talk of the league
losing sponsorships up to ten lane.
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
That's a drop in the bucket to those knuckleheads. That's
the point.
Speaker 10 (01:50:05):
No, And I like it feels rough too, because again,
like you look at Barcelona, who just finally embraced a
shirt sponsor for the first time in Spotify and put
their name on the stadium and everything. There's money coming
to Laaliga. Becau's one of the biggest leagues in the world.
It features two of the biggest clubs in the world
in Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Valencia and Athletico and
(01:50:25):
all the rest are are indulging at large US as well.
But it just it feels exhausting. It feels exhausting, just
like it feels exhausting to deal with the insane fans
of like the Italian club of Lazio or something that
there's just these ugly corners of European soccer that no
matter what we do, we just can't seem to kick
this out.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Like you said, it dirty's up. The international game cast
it in the very unfavorable light. All right, good stuff, Chris,
we'll get your back Saturday night. More World of Soccer
after a very busy soccer Saturday.
Speaker 10 (01:50:56):
Have a good one, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (01:50:57):
All right, thanks, It's Christopher Fetz. World of Soccer coming up.
Could the Boston Celtics make history? Their position to do it,
but they still got to do it? And history suggest
they own although there may be a path here. We'll
talk about it next as we wrap up The Bernie
Frattle Show. I'm Bernie Fraddlewick Comedy live from the Las
(01:51:18):
Vegas Fox Sports Radio tire Act dot Com studios.
Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
Don't go away.
Speaker 3 (01:51:21):
You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Kurt Schilling and the Bloody Sock. They came back from
a three nothing deficit to not only beat Yankees, but
beat the Yankees but Sweet Saint Louis in the World Series.
And Kevin Millar was taking his pregame infield and he said,
don't let us get one tonight when they were down
three to zero and the rest is history. And then
(01:51:42):
let's not forget the Patriots in Super Bowl fifty one.
They were down twenty eight to three to Atlanta and
you know what happened there. So, as I said, the
twenty three Celtics haven't done it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:54):
Yet.
Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
But after a very impressive thirteen point win Thursday night
over the Heat, it feels like there is a path now,
and if we're being honest, all this team, this twenty
three Celtic team to twenty twenty three, might be the
most qualified to do it of all the teams I've tried,
because even the three that were that forced the game
(01:52:19):
seven after being DOWNZH three, they were lesser seeds playing
by all objective measures, better teams.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
But that's not really the case here by most metrics.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
You know, I feel about analytics, Okay, analytics, I believe
they have a place. I believe they are and they
are a guideline. They're not an inflexible anchor. Analytics till
they tell you what happened yesterday, not gonna tell you
what happened tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
But be that as it may. Boston is the higher seed.
They've posted two convincing double digit victories since going down
three to nothing last night's game, or checked that Thursday
Night's game was never in jeopardy. In fact, the Heat
really realized.
Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
That by the time they got to the fourth quarter
they were not gonna overcome the hum So what do
they do? They rested, their starters in the fourth quarter
because the game was out a nd all of a sudden.
Jason Tatum looks like himself again. Jalen Brown, he found
his stroke. He's like the tower of power in Oakland. Baby,
they found their stroke. Derek White twenty four points, six
of eight from behind the ar. If those three are
(01:53:19):
filling up the nets Sunday check that Saturday night, then
Miami might want to get a little nervous. We might
be headed back to Boston Game six Saturday night, eight
thirty Eastern, and the Celtics were favored by two and
a half points on the road. This is good stuff,
So the heats starting to feel nervous.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:53:39):
The key is whether or not Boston will make their threes.
If Brown, White, Marcus Spart, Marcus Smart, and of course
Jason Tatum do what they did before, it's gonna Miami
has less margin and victory Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Let's be honest, and they've done a hell of a
job this year if you look.
Speaker 3 (01:54:00):
At them objectively, I mean, they were under five hundred
on Christmas Day, they were what in seventh place around
the All Star break.
Speaker 2 (01:54:08):
They had to get to the playing game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
They lost to Chicago and look where they're at now
won an accomplishment.
Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
But what's my point? The Heat they have to they
basically to have everything go right.
Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
If they're gonna win this game. They can't turn the
ball over sixteen times like they did Thursday. The rebounding
margin was about the same, but the Heat only had
seven second chance points. Boston had seventeen second chance points.
That's desire And the truth of the matter is Miami
didn't really get their second chance points until the fourth
(01:54:38):
quarter after the game was decided. And by the way,
one last thing, you really can't discount the Celtics defense either.
Boston's now held Miami under one hundred points in two
consecutive games. That doesn't happen. You got to give Joe
mazool a lot of credit. It's been a real up
and down narrative from him in the postseason. It's been
a crazy year. Boston fans want them to clean out
(01:54:59):
his office. They wanted Nick Nurse, they wanted to Mike Boozenholzer.
There was even talking doc rivers, Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
So? Who's gonna take care of business Saturday night?
Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
Either way, we are going to have a story when
you wake up Sunday morning.
Speaker 2 (01:55:11):
Will there be a Game seven?
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Or Old Miami as an eight seed enter the Promised
Land against a Denver team who's waiting and resting. It's
gonna do it for the Bernie Frattle Show back on
these airwaves eleven PM Saturday Night. Keep it locked right
here up next, They're great. Anthony Gargano on Fox Sports
Radio
