I speak the black cold, the way they make the
bros field, moving them from shortstop on into the outfield,
changing my disposition. What's really the mission when you got
(01:35):
the best players competing for three positions when it's not
on the field, utility ready pistons who want to bring
the world s reas home on Thanksgiving and sit.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
By the kitchen. But Mama is steady whipping.

Reflect on the journey, reflect on the blessings, reflect on

What's up, everybody, I'm David Grubbin.
Speaker 7 (03:18):
Welcome to another week of classic hits on the MLB
bro Show podcast The Mixtape. Today we're talking about how
Satchel Paige and some Negro League all stars embarrassed the
commissioner by being too good. Let's go back to May
in nineteen forty two, still almost five years away from
Jackie Robinson's debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Major League Baseball was.
Speaker 7 (03:37):
Still whites only, but there have been a long history
of the big league's best taking on the stars of
the negro leagues to actually get to test each other
head to head. In the first game of a three
game series held at Chicago's Wrigley Field, Almost thirty thousand
people watched his Pages nine defeated.
Speaker 6 (03:51):
The Dizzy Dan All Stars three to one.
Speaker 7 (03:54):
A week later, Paige was back on the mount at
Griffin Stadium in Washington, DC, in front of twenty two
thousand more fans. This time, stat went five innings in
an eight to one victory.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
That was enough for them. Commissioner Judge Kitasaw Mountain Landis.
Speaker 7 (04:07):
He shut the series down before the third game could
be played on July fourth, not simply because the big
leaguers have been beaten by combined eleven to two by
the supposedly inferior players from the Negro leagues.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
No.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
Landis was more upset that the games outdrew the crowds
that typically came to.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
See Major League Baseball games.
Speaker 7 (04:25):
See The whole story had been that black ball players
couldn't compete with whites on the field, and that fans
didn't want to see them play either.
Speaker 6 (04:33):
But numbers don't lie.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
The two games pulled an average more than twenty five
thousand fans that would outpace thirteen current.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
Teams in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
Look the game is the game, and Landis found himself
on the wrong side of history. Today, baseball as players
for almost every continent and corner of the globe, and
it just keeps getting bigger.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
I'm David Grubb. This has been classic hits. Now back
to the mix.
Speaker 8 (05:01):
Every day should be memorial Dave for the Brows who
served in the military then were treated as second class
citizens when they came back home. I'm mlbog Mark Craig
going deep four the mixtape. Baseball has always been a
game of unsung heroes. On that heroic list of players
(05:23):
like Leon Day, Jackie Robinson, O'Neill, Larry Doby, and Monty Irving,
who all fought in World War Two, by the greatness
of Ernie Banks and Willie Mays represented the United States
in the military during the Korean Conflict. But Dan Bankhead
was the first black American pitcher in Major League Baseball,
(05:45):
and before that, he played in the Negro Leagues for
the Birmingham Barons and the Memphis Red Sox during the
seven year career this span from nineteen forty to nineteen
forty seven. Then, when Major League Baseball began to to segregate,
he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers with Jackie Robinson from
nineteen forty seven to nineteen fifty one. However, during World
(06:09):
War Two, Bankhead served in the Marine Corps reserves from
April nineteen forty to the June nineteen forty six, when
he was honorably discharged with the rank of sarge. When
President Roosevelt signed the Executive War to eighty eight oh
two in June nineteen forty one, black people were allowed
to join the Marine Corps for the first time, and
(06:33):
Bankhead received his recruit training in a segregated unit. And
there are many stories of Major League Baseball players who
served their country greatly, so let's count this as a
salute to the band of MLB brothers who served as
great Americans despite being treated like second class citizens after
(06:58):
they put their weapon under Damn. I'm Mark Gray, the
mlbog and I'm going eight of the mix.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Take It's the Black As Report, the Black As Report,
It's the Black A's Report, The Black As Report.
Speaker 9 (07:18):
What's up, everybody? This is justin fatrully with the Black
As Report. On the MLB bro Show podcast mixtape. Here's
where you get the latest on the Melanated Mountain marauders
who are shoving with precision and popping out all across
the big leagues.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
So let's check the report.
Speaker 9 (07:32):
Grant Anderson had one of the best MLB debuts in
present memory. He pitched May thirtieth against the Tigers, where
he went two and two third innings, allowing one hit,
striking out seven batters, and picked up the win. He
struck out the first four batters he ever faced, and
it's the first pitchers in nineteen.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Seventy four to do that in debut.
Speaker 9 (07:51):
Marcus Stroman pitched arguably the best game of his career
on May twenty nine against the best team in the
MLB in the Tampa Bay Rays. He had a one
hit complete game, only allowing three base runners and banning
eight hitters. He pitched seventeen innings in his last two
starts and has a one point six.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
ERA during that stretch.
Speaker 9 (08:10):
Blackjack Flaherty went seven innings against the Indians up May
twenty seven, where he gave up seven hits and one run,
helping lead the team to a two to one victory.
He brought his ERA down to four point eight one,
and his next start is scheduled for June second against
the Pirates Devin Airbender Williams just continues to dominate out
of the pen. He's appeared in sixteen games, only giving
(08:31):
up seven hits, one run, and has a zero point
five four ERA TODs Bradley looks to get back in
the win column after picking up losses in both of
his starts that he's been called back up. His next
opportunity is scheduled for June fourth against the Red Sox.
That's the black As report for this week. This is
JP the rook Now back to the mix.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
It saw.
Speaker 10 (08:56):
It's a great time at Comerica Park. Had time to
catch up with young star Quiebadu. Detroit Tigers Layley A
Kill had his way up to play. With his last
fifteen games, He's had twelve hits, three home runs, of
thirteen RBI and amazon three hundred and bad and average
during that time. Fred Akill said he loves his role
with the team. He puts winning first, so whatever he
can do to help the team win, willing to play
(09:16):
anywhere to help win the game. The Tigers are sitting
at second in the AL Central Division. The Tigers are
five hundred playing at home in the blue College city
like Detroit, if the team keeps the nose down to
continue to work. They'll be in competition to win that
division and having great chrism guys like Kill but doing
that locker room whose main focus is devoted to win it.
He'll be a vastly different team than the Tigers that
(09:38):
we saw that started three and ten. He'll be a
team who can compete in playoff contention. We'll be serving
it up all season long right here on MLB Bros
Podcast The Mixtape. I'm devon cook, stay hungry.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
K.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
When I step up to the plate, yacht up in
the baddest box, dimens fall off my waist yacht. I

That's my a like a melanated king. So baby, get

We believe in the mind that mold clutch. It is
in propping roll that rocks the soul with the exit
(10:25):
velocity like a frozen rope, the height of a foul
pull the bitche leaning like a junkie oo snorting goat.
But this is the land, the whole being grass and
post game can the low the ball to travel to
darn strawberry blast that never choke.
Speaker 8 (10:40):
Nope.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
When I step up to the plate, Yah up in
the baddest box, dimens fall off.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
My waist yacht.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I got the game on padded lock my MVP Mookie Best.
That's my a like a melanated king. So baby get
just slagged up right and they'll be bro show. It's
never fading, banging, amazing, blazing the king. Take it to
the ball pops, back to the field. Averone Judge had sixty.
Speaker 11 (11:04):
Two bombs for grip, no juicing, producing or baseball collusion snoozing,
Continue to bruise like blues music, and they'll be bro
show mixtape So infusion bagld God him shaken and moving.
Speaker 2 (11:17):

That's my a like a melaninated king. So baby get
just lighting up right. M'll be broke show. Hits never faded, banging, amazing,
were blazing the cages. Take it to the ball pops.
(11:38):
Back to the field. Averon Judge had sixty two bombs
for real. We don't believe in the lives that sold.
We believe in the minds that mold clutch. It is
zip rocking rolls that box the soul with exit velocity
like a frozen rope.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
The height of a foul pole left the picture.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Linking like a junkie floor in dope. But this is
landed the whole green grafting phone game can unload the
ball to travel the darrel strawberry blast.
Speaker 3 (12:04):

I got that game on padded like my MVT mooviie.
That's that's my a like melanated king. So baby gets
just swabbing right from La to Boston. So from the
floorston slamming like standing taking so from the horseman fire
rig starting riots Kerosene the rundown Supreme.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
The bros know what I mean. War Wings ops.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Plus Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastianball and
I'm the numbers man man. MLB bro Andrew mccushon has
returned to Pittsburgh sounding a one year deal this season
and the consistent how put we knew from the mid
twenty tenth has returned with him. Mccushion has started his
second stand with us Pirates spectacularly, already more than doubling
(12:59):
his fingers fors of zero point three and twenty twenty
two to zero point seven. As of May thirtieth, twenty three,
his weight he runs created plus is one seventeen, which
is the highest totally has put up since his twenty
nineteen season in Philadelphia. He chases pitches less than most
players in the league, being the eighty ninth percentile and
lowest chase rate, which in turn translates to his eighty
(13:19):
six percentile walk percentage of twelve point nine percent. This
pair with his one out of an average on defense
and right field, is showing a much improved mccutch.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
In this season.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
He has put up an expective weighted on base average
of point three five nine so far, and showing that
his offensive output is warranted by his elite contact considering
that his actual weight on base average is point three
four to seven and it's lower than is expected. He
has put up scarely consistent numbers this season, with a
weight runs created plus of one twenty in March, in
April and one twelve and May, and he also has
(13:52):
a weighty runs created plus of one eleven versus lefties
and one nineteen versus righties, while also having a weight
to runs creative plus of one thirty four when runners
are in scoring position. This, combined with a zero point
nine base running runs above average, shows how mcushion has
been a consistently good player in almost every aspect of
the game. Mccushion returning to form can prove be a
(14:13):
vital part of this exciting Pirates offense, and this resurgens,
combined with the young talent in Pittsburgh, has led to
an around five hundred record, which puts them only two
games out of first place. If mccauson can continue this production,
the Pirates will be troublemakers come October.
Speaker 12 (14:27):
War Wings ops A plus.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastianball, and I'm
the numbers man.
Speaker 8 (14:35):
Some well, don't like the man.
Speaker 13 (14:38):
He's the numbers man mlbbro dot COM's analytical whiz Sebastian Ball.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
It's the gambler here. Vice president of Operations for mlbbro
dot Com, an executive producer of the MLB Bro Show

Speaker 3 (17:33):
I'm Shakes's head and says, not on my turf, not
at my house.
Speaker 14 (17:39):
Up next to number four, we have Blue Jays cinifitter
George Springer, who had two doubles and squarter run and
a three to one victory of the Minnesota Twins on Friday,
sitting in a three spot, and we've got daughters out
for their Mookie Benz booka teas and make things happen.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Smoking Ookie Best, Smoking Animalki Best.
Speaker 14 (17:56):
Bro Square at least one run in five out of
six games. Last week he hit a home run in
a four to three loss to the Atlanta Braves and
let me two. This week we have MV BRO Byron Buckston.
Will Quarley produced for the Minnesota Twins. Over the past month.
He ree's basing over twenty straight games, hoping the Twins
holds Sostinley in the Al Central. Number one on Chris
(18:17):
Condown the real deal at Kilbadoo. He's taking advantage of
his opportunity. In Detroit on Sunday, he couraged the Grand
Slam and Rock to a sixty five victory for the Tigers.
All the Chicago White Sox.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Drifted to deep left field way back.
Speaker 16 (18:30):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
The fairy tale continues and.
Speaker 14 (18:34):
It's been Chris Condown on the mmb bro Show podcast mixtape.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Now back to the mix.
Speaker 12 (18:41):
This is Rachel Hill and this is my two cents
on the melanated mal Maurauder. Jack Flerity picture for the
Saint Louis Cardinals. Jack Flerity's most recent win came at
the expense of the Cleveland Guardians. He was brilliant on
the mound that night in a game that can be
considered a picture's duel and a Cardinals win. Jack Flerity
went seven innings, given up one run on seven heads,
(19:02):
He walked one and struck out five. The Saint Louis
Cardinals muster just enough offense to beat the Cleveland Guardians
two to one in ten innings. The right hander has
struggled with consistency this season, as evidenced by his four
point eight to one er and one point five to
three whip over eleven starts, but he has also shown
flashes of the dominant form he displayed in twenty twenty two.
(19:23):
He has three wins and four losses, but there's plenty
more season to go. Jack was devastated when his teammate
Tyler Skaggs passed away.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
They were close.
Speaker 12 (19:32):
They met and began working out together members of the
Dungeon crew that frequented a Pepperdine University facility during the
off season. He looked up to Tyler Skaggs. He mourned
the friend who imbued a room with energy and encouraged
everyone to reach your ceilings. He's always with me, flaerty said,
I can feel him, You just feel that energy. Jack
(19:53):
is also one for doing what is right for those
who don't have a powerful platform. Part of being a
Cardinals being exposed to veterans who all of the car
in a way, there's a way to play the game
on the field, and there is a way to make
an impact off of it. And one charity that he
worked with was Pledget. He had a strikeout for Water campaign,
dedicating every strikeout he throws to providing clean drinking water
(20:13):
for people around the world. It's only twenty seven dollars
and forty eight cents to provide clean water for one person.
He raised thirty five thousand, seven hundred and seventy seven
dollars for his campaign.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Great job Jack, what's good?
Speaker 16 (20:28):
It's your boy Chris Bolton with mlbbro dot com And
here's the look at what's foul or fair?
Speaker 13 (20:35):
Is it foul or is it fair? The answer is
on mlbbroad dot com the same.
Speaker 16 (20:42):
Luis Cardinals have one of baseball's young budding stars and
outfielder Jordan Walker. But the way the organization is developing him,
is it foul or is it fair? I think it's foul.
Walker is getting the short end of a stick in
his development. In a recent interview, he explains the Cards
wanted him to start hitting the ball in the air.
The suggestion got him off his game, but he went
(21:04):
on to say, since reverting back to his old approach,
he's been swinging the bad just fine, and the numbers
back it up.
Speaker 17 (21:11):
I was told to start hitting the ball in the air,
and that kind of got to me a little bit
about trying to force the ball in the air a
little bit too much, and that forced myself to do
things that I usually don't do. So right now I'm
not too worried about getting the ball in the air
more and I'm starting to drive the ball a lot
better now, So I think it's just you know, being
more relaxed and not thinking about it at the play.
There's no point if I try and hit the ball
in the air, I might hit the ball at all,
(21:32):
you know, so I might as well hit the ball harden.
If it's on the ground, it's on the ground. I'm
trying to, you know, find a whole movie drive running.
And then I feel like as I go through the season,
it's going to get more in the air, just like
he did last year. So I just have to trust
myself and trust how my swing's been, you know, the
past three years I've been in the organization, and that's
just what I have faith in.
Speaker 16 (21:50):
Since May fourteenth, his batting average with the Cars Triple
A affiliate the Methis Redbirds is three zero six and
his slugging percentage is five to ten.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
It doesn't have to be complicated.
Speaker 16 (22:01):
Allow Walker to focus on making contact with the swing,
and the long bombs will come with time.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
We're talking about the same.
Speaker 16 (22:09):
Guy who put together a twelve game historak, tying the
great Eddie Murphy for the longest histreak by player twenty
years old or younger to start their career with Lars
new Bar and Tyler O'Neill out with injuries. The Cars
short can use our young MLB bros back in.
Speaker 13 (22:25):
The lineup.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Number twenty two.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
They tried to write him all five years ago, but
former National League MVP Andrew McCutcheon is still going strong.
Cutch twenty two returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates this season
and has made an immediate impact, putting up his best
number since twenty nineteen, killing and at the same time,
(23:00):
he continues to climb up.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
The statistical rankings of the all time Pirate greats.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
We push him back.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Last week, he became the.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Twelfth player in franchise history to collect fifteen hundred hits
in the Black and Yellow. By the time this season
is done, mccutchen's numbers should put him in some elite company.
He's closing in on two thousand hits, three hundred home runs,
four hundred doubles, fifty triples, and a thousand runs scored
(23:31):
in his illustrious career. That would make Cutch only the
thirty fourth player and thirteenth black player to join that
exclusive club. That would put him among all timers who
go by one name, like Mays Aaron Banks, Robinson, Stargel,
(23:54):
Winfield and Bonds.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
I don't know who said Andrew McCutchen was done. That's cat.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Whoever did needs to pay close attention to this NLB
bro because CUCH twenty two is not close to being
the group.
Speaker 8 (24:22):
Waits.
Speaker 16 (24:24):
I close down.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
I'm on the base line.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
If you want to see me, you better try FaceTime.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
I'm on my ten brains. Time swipe the base time, coach,
keep menching, try tip the face.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Mind, I got the willing ability.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Plus my pops taught me pass at the plating on
the pass and not fussy, I should get tacked off
my rock.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Fusfy you was able to come on my horse.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
I'm in the earth home.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
But all I'm thinking if I was trying to hit
the first, y'all, we got no runs to hit. Semi
struggling coach talking about don't run, keep ugging.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
But my man, damn, I'm on the first y'all. The
catcher never had a chair is to even throw the ball. Now,
I'm boring the third, scrambling, rambling, I slided the whole.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
I'm on my belly, Hamilton even so's damn my back
at the plate. They've seen the legs and let me
show them I can ring. That's what I call my
shaking bake doubles in the gap, bombs to the lake.
The banks at the plate slack and cried, tax and
nass Team James Woods, c j Abs and the logic
green with ion, greenstone Gart.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
That's a red fabric.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
I'm pushing back against the savage more. Daddy des make
out automatic his hef and the shift like the names
on the blackness shoes at the world starts Tyn again.
If he's not here, his mouncers are playing and the
lists damn the one can catch me my work ef
get me jash.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
He is a back speed. It's to ever be broke
us the factory, the dirt kicking, fake the liquor, block
me in strategy.
Speaker 18 (25:48):
Sure, last round thing it look like loosing us out,
Let me fat it look out radio the podcast.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
But when you get your podcast
Speaker 6 (26:12):
