Speaker 3 (00:23):
We got a.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Multitude of things going on on a busy Saturday. Much
of our show today we're gonna be focused on the NBA.
We got the Draft coming up on Thursday, all kinds
of trade rumors to get to. Obviously, we got Major
League Baseball news. Adam Kaplan our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider.
We'll join us a little bit later on in the show,
and we have the US Open Round three. The leaders
(00:45):
are about to tee off here as we got this
out at the Los Angeles Country Club Buggy, which is
literally down the street from where we're broadcasting today. You know,
this is one of those events, obviously, one hundred and
twenty third edition of the US Open. It's a major
in golf. Many people figure it's the most important major
(01:08):
it's for our Nations Championship. The overall buzz in LA
has been tempered, Let's put it that way. I asked
you the last couple of weeks, any buzz, Not really,
but anyway, they're playing right now and this has been
much maligned. I don't know if you've been paying attention
to any of the social media, but after we had
(01:31):
two sixty two's by Ricky Faller and Xander Schaffley on
Thursday to shatter the US Open record, people were just
throwing all kinds of barbs at LACC that it wasn't
worthy of a US Open. I will say this about
this golf course, and this comes from somebody that has
lived obviously the majority of my life here in Los Angeles,
(01:54):
born here, raised here, aside from my escapades in San
Diego a couple times over the course of my lifetime,
this is my home and I have never stepped foot
on this LACC like this. This place is one of
the best kept secrets in LA. It is so exclusive
that they don't even put out like who's a member
(02:14):
of this place. I was shocked when I heard that
they were actually going to host the US Open here.
I've never seen this place. I literally bucky. I've never
seen this golf course. I have driven by it a
million times. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but it's sort of
mind blowing for me to watch a place citied in
(02:35):
Los Angeles that almost nobody in LA has ever seen before.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, it is remarkable that a lot of people haven't
been able to see the course, go to the course,
play the course, yet it is hosting our national championship.
When it comes to the US Open, it is fascinating.
And then you know, you would think that there would
be more buzz around the city about the but it
(03:01):
kind of has flown under the radar. I'n't heard a
lot of people locally talk about the US Open. Had
a couple of golf friends say, oh, they may check
it out in those things, but certainly not the enthusiasm
of the fervor that you would think when you have
a big deal like this.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Well, the galleries have been small because they're limited space
to get people actually on the course, and so people
were comparing the first couple of rounds, like during the
COVID when they had no gallery for the major golf championships.
It's been weird, they thought, because the weather got hotter
today that the scores with skyrocket. They haven't. And let's
(03:40):
be honest, based on the criteria of a US Open
golf course. And I heard my dear friend Jonas you know,
blast those that were critical of this course. But here's
the reality the US Open. The USGA, which runs the
US Open, prides itself that this is the biggest test
for any golfer. And that is what has set the
(04:01):
US Open apart from the other major golf championship. Said,
you're playing a course where even par counts, and that
is simply not the case. So this course, this course
has played far easier than the overwhelming majority courses that
are used for the US Open. Maybe people like that,
I don't know the argument of I mean, Bucky, When
(04:21):
you're watching a major golf championship, are you more apt
to be excited about seeing somebody hit a great shot
or does it catcher tension more when a great player
is struggling and making bad shots As a viewer, what
(04:42):
is more appealing to you?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
As a viewer? Scoring is always more appilling like seeing
great shots, seeing people knocking in the hole, seeing the
buzz and the energy of the gallery as people make
remarkable shots, if you bring the score down, if you
hold it down, and it's so challenging, that's so f
far above most of our pay grades when it comes
to the casual golfer, that we can't appreciate how hard
it is. And so from an aesthetic standpoint, you want
(05:09):
to see guys that can knocket in the cup. And
so I would rather see an easier course where the
scores are up there, super low. I can see in
a hard course that I don't. I mean, look, it
does mean no good. If someone is shooting two under
and the course has been hard the entire week, it's
not fascinating enough for me to watch.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, I mean, I guess some people like the fact that,
you know, this tournament, the US Open, has humbled a
lot of great golfers over the years, and you see
them struggling with deep raw or difficult pen lieser and
they're boguing, and I don't know, if you're not a
good golfer, which is the overwhelming majority of us, you
get a little satisfaction like yeah, huh, yeah, no, I'm
(05:48):
just like them. Of course, on the same hole where
they may have gotten a bogie, you may you would
have probably picked up your ball ten shots into the hole.
So we got that going on right now. Will continue
to update you or throughout the show today as far
as the US Open golf is concerned. All right, I
got so much basketball to get to over the course
of the show today. The NBA Draft is coming up
(06:10):
on Thursday, and I want to take a little side
detour before we get into details about what to expect
with a draft and a lot of trade rumers that
are floating around the NBA right now, and just get
to the legality of the draft. So this merger and
golf that they're talking about right and suddenly Congress is
(06:32):
stepping in because they have this tax exempt status, charities
and all this kind of stuff. And one of the
things that has kept professional team sports going is the
fact that they are essentially exempt from any federal law.
(06:54):
There's no other explanation for the legality of a draft
in any business. I mean, just imagine, like literally, I
come out of college and I want to get into
a certain field and then I find there's a draft
and you've been drafted by a company in Iowa, and
(07:14):
that's where you're going to have to go. Like, I
don't want to go to Iowa. Well, if you want
to be in this business, that's where you're going to
have to go at some point, Bucky, I got to
believe that somebody's going to drop the hammer on these drafts.
(07:35):
The legality of the draft. I mean, I understand why
they have drafts. You have a competitive balance and make
the bad teams better and everything else. I get it now.
The NFL, the NBA almost from their inception had drafts.
The one sport that didn't was baseball. Baseball didn't introduce
a draft till nineteen sixty five, which is why the
(07:56):
Yankees are so dominant for so many years, because they
were able to go out and signed.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Right there is why you will have a draft, of
why ownership would always push for a draft because of
competitive caretative balance.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
But you've been through the draft process as a player,
as an executive of everything else. It is crazy, right, Yeah,
the idea of a draft and then you get a
phone call as a player coming out of college out
of North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
It's a dream come true.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Though, Well, like they then, that's how they hype it up, right.
In other words, this is like this is a dream.
You see the commissioner up there, He's hugging everybody. It's
like a dream come true? Was it a dream come true?
To be drafted by the team you're drafted by? Was?
How does that work?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I mean, I wasn't a Bill fan at the time.
I didn't have anything against him. I wasn't a Buffalo
Bills fan.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I mean, to go from North Carolina to Buffalo was that,
you know? Desirable? Where did you want to go?
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I mean I was. I was actually fine because remember
when I was drafted in nineteen ninety four, the Buffalo
Bills were coming off of their four straight Super Bowl
run Superol appearance. Yeah, now they had lost all four
of them. But as a player, you always want to
go to a good team. I remember my initial thoughts, Man,
you're playing with these great players, Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Thurman,
Thomas brew Smith, all those guys Hall of famers. Team
(09:13):
has going to the Zoo Bow. So you go, You're like, hey,
we get a line, we're gonna go. And then I
just happened to fall into Buffalo right when it was
turning the other way, and we went seven to nine
my first season, and so it wasn't that. But now,
can I say it was my favorite team. No, it
was my lifelong dream to play for the Buffalo Bills.
It was just more so to be in the National
(09:34):
Football League. And so you're happy that your name has
been called and that team becomes your team.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
The drafts not can last forever.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
I promise you that's the last forever. House are we
going to dispense the talent? How are we gonna make
it even and fair for everybody? Everyone's not gonna want
to sign with.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well, I mean it may not be fair to the franchises.
What about fair to the athlete. Now we've had guys
step up and say, we go back to Eli Manning,
I am not playing for the Chargers, period, exclamation point.
And then with a first pick in the two thousand
and four NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select Eli
Manning and he gets up on the stage and he's uncomfortable,
(10:13):
like what's going on here? And then of course, immediately
a trade was made with the Giants and that was it.
But at some point somebody is really going to challenge
the legality of these drafts. And we talked about how name,
image and likeness, the money that's pouring into the pockets
of these college athletes could be a major game changer.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Could be a game changer. And everyone is looking this
year at Caleb Williams based on the amount of money
that he is reportedly getting with his NIO deals all
around us, either reigning Heisman Trophy winner has everything that
you that you could ask for. And so now if
he is sitting at the top of the board, he
decides that he may come out. But then maybe the
(10:56):
Arizona Cardinals are holding the number one over a pick
they currently have Cayler Murray.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
The nfl PA put out their report card on teams
and they didn't get favorable marks in all areas. Maybe
Caleb Williams saying I'll go back. I'll go back and
play with Lincoln Riley one more year. I'm good. I
don't need the money right now, unlike previous years where
guys came out and they had to kind of take
the money. I mean, i gotta go. This is my shot.
(11:21):
He'll be like, you know what, I'll pass. I'm good,
I'm comfortable, I'm in LA. I just keep playing. That
could be the litmus test that changes the draft.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Completely changes the draft. I mean, if he does that,
because he's got money in the bank, money pouring in
and he tying, I mean, concerns about long term you know,
career ending injuries. Always taking care of my insurance policy.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah, get you a little policy.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Take care of him, Yeah, pun you can put you
When the money he's making a us, he believe me,
he could afford any insurance policy that he wants.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
I mean, knowing the Trojans, I'm sure there's a nice
insurance broker that would talking make sure he needs.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
It's all taken care of. So but we'll we'll get
into some of the dynamics of the mb We've got
a lot of NBA draft rumors. But you mentioned Caleb Williams,
and that's going to take me to another story I
wanted to get to today, the fate of the PAC
twelve and how this could have a major impact on
the overview of the entire college sports scene. This is
(12:18):
Fox Sports Saturday.

It's the Book of Joe podcasts. I can't wait for this, Joe.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
We're going to dive into what goes on in the
dugout and behind the scenes in.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Steve Harbin and Bucky Brooks. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
We are live from the tire Raq dot Com studios.
I just realize here that the final pairing of Rickey
Fowler and Wyndham Clark will not tee off until three
forty That seems crazy. It does seem like a late
(13:25):
Doesn't that seem late? Can I jump in with Monsey
for a second or maybe Monsey? Can you turn on
Monse's mic?
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (13:36):
I thought it was like six thirty am. Then I
was like, oh, six thirty pm Eastern time.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
How long does it take?
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Is in?
Speaker 2 (13:44):
It's at least four hours.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Right, Well, you're playing quick, I mean at the end
of the day. I mean, because it's not like we're
at the time. I'm just.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
The guy when they're going. But they're playing for a
US Open, you know, major golf championships, So they're taking
their time.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
No, no, no hacking their way through. A Clock's not
a clock on the course like in baseball.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Now, it is not like a clock is then shine
like you know, sunshine, do we have a sunset time?
Speaker 6 (14:09):
It's probably close to say.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
So fine, thank you for that update, Sam, so eight Oi,
they're gonna have to get you up.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Oh no, it's fine, that's fine. Not a bad shot.
I city right down the fair. We we're moving, okay.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
So uh not again, the leaders don't go off for
quite a while to even start the round. Uh at
this US Open third round. So we'll keep you updated
once we have actually something to talk about. I do
want to talk about this Bucky, and that is the
future of the PAC twelve cons now is someone that
obviously is a UCLA grad and has been raised around
(14:41):
this conference from the days that it was the Pack eight.
I mean, this's go way back in the day. They're
in trouble. They don't have a media deal right now,
and essentially there's a deadline of oh, I don't know,
two weeks. There is obviously the defection of USC and
(15:02):
UCLA when this season concludes. There are rumors buzzing that
the Colorado Buffaloes are ready to leave town as well. Meanwhile,
San Diego State has notified the Mountain West Conference that
they want out of their conference, but they've had not
even a phone call from the PAC twelve. I go
back to the day that it was announced that USC
(15:23):
and UCLA were moving to the Big Ten, talking to
the athletic director JD. Wicker at San Diego State whether
or not, well, a lot of people we're asking him,
does this mean you're moving to the PAC twelve? And
his response, I thought was very honest. He goes, we
don't even know if there's going to be a conference.
WHOA So where are we going with this whole dynamic,
(15:43):
especially on the college football side where the NCAA is
pretty much divorced itself of any involvement with college football.
I mean, college football, like it now, is a separate
entity from all other sports at the collegiate level. But
if we have a dissolve of the PAC twelve.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
What it sounds like we're on our way to having
the super conferences that people that talked about. I think
it had been speculated that maybe we will get to
the point where we have maybe four super conferences or
maybe two super duper conferences that are split down the
middle and you have divisions. But it appears that college
football is about to go the way of the National
Football League, where everyone operates under one umbrella, but you
(16:23):
have different divisions and different division champions as they play
into the playoffs, a twelve team playoff, which, like now
the way it's looking, maybe we should move to sixteen.
I have like a full bracket style.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Well, I mean thinking about this name, image and likeness.
Where's all this money coming from? Right? I don't know
what the idea that we keep hearing about collectives? Right,
these university as collectives, I don't know what that means
other than maybe.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
I think you have a donor q QBU or something
like that.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Right, I mean, are they getting money from businesses, individuals?
It's all And then if you don't have a rights deal,
television money coming into the university, you're in trouble because
with name image and likeness. And we were kidding about
this last week, Bucky, where we said, you know, with
(17:12):
the Arabs Saudi's taken over the golf world, what would
prevent them from jumping into college football and start pouring
money into these universities saying, hey, do you want to
be competitive to get the top talent, We'll give you
the money necessary. So this is a day and age
where if you don't have a stream of income coming
into the universities, especially from the media standpoint, it's gonna
(17:36):
be hard to keep up. You can't keep up.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
It's gonna be hard. It's gonna be really hard to
do it. And when you see the machines that are
the top teams and just the coffers that they can
dig into Georgia, the Alabama's, Ohio State, some of the
other teams, Tech Texas has a gang of money, it
makes it very very challenging if you're a smart team
to be able to do it. How's University of Utah
want to be able to continue to compete with some
(18:00):
of that. You can develop players all day, but at
some point it comes down to talent, and the accumulation
of talent gives you an opportunity sustained over long seasons
or multiple seasons, and so a lot of the teams
in the pack whatever it is, PAC twelve, PAC ten,
you can go back to Pack eight because we don't
know how many members are still in it. They have
to figure it out. And it's super difficult because now
(18:24):
you're a bit handcuffed because you have to take some
little brothers, you know, you Washington, Hey, you got to
take Washington State with them, you know, Arizona, Arizona State,
all those things, and so some of those things make
it prohibitive for them to move to the other conferences.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Well, UCLA didn't have to take cal along, and that
was a deal. Again before UCLA got the stamp of
approval from the UC regions, there had to be some
kind of compensation for UC Berkeley. Yeah, so the dynamics
of this are crazy. I agree with you, Bucky, and
I said this literally twenty five years ago about the
(19:01):
formation of super conferences. But I thought what I thought
was radical apparently is not radical enough. The SEC in
the Big ten rule today. That's where the money is.
And so either you're going to be part of those
super conferences or you're going to be left behind, and
there are going to be universities, especially from football standpoint.
(19:22):
And we've seen the dissolve of all these professional spring
leagues and you realize the actual cost of running a
professional league that's almost essentially what it is on the
collegiate level. On the Division one. What was it We
just found out the XFL lost sixty million dollars this year,
sixty million dollars. No university is going to be able
to afford that. And what's going to happen is going
to have to dissolve the football program and there's only
(19:45):
going to be a few you were college football programs
out there.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah, no, this is it's not win anyone hope for
like it. We went from the pagantry and just loving
all the things that thank you college football those things
to now it is certainly in business. And some people
will blame to play. I'm not blaming. I can't blame
the players for nil in those things. I would say
that if the NC Double A would have been on
(20:10):
the front end of all of this stuff early, we
wouldn't have these situations. And you know it's now I
would say a mess because it's the wild wild West
when it comes to the portal when it comes to nil.
You NAVI expanded the playoffs and all this stuff, and
it just seems like a very rudderless ship college football is.
And so someone needs to and they've talked about it.
(20:30):
We've heard people talk about this and nauseam. Somebody needs
to be bizarre, someone needs to be in charge of
all things football for the NC Double A so they
can take care of it. But until we get that person,
that's going to continue to be a mess.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I wonder if the NFL will ever step in, because
essentially college football is their free minor league, all right.
They've had this free minor league system forever, free and
they don't want to lose that. So I just wonder,
(21:03):
with the riches of the NFL, whether they will find
a way to protect college football from the direction that's
going right now, because there are some serious signs starting
with this pack again, if nothing's resolved from a media
standpoint over the next couple of weeks, the status the
future of the PAC twelve conference is very much in doubt.

Let's find out what is trending right now. We know
it's not golf, at least from the leaders standpoint. We
(21:45):
just found that out, So yes, a team off for
quite a while, Moncia. I was listening to my beloved
friend Jonas Knox earlier today complaining that during his show
all the spotlight is on you rather than him, and
something I don't complain about, and I'm thankful you're here.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Yeah, I don't know why he hates that I spice
up his show. You know what I'm saying. He's a hater,
Like I called him, He's a hater.
Speaker 7 (22:11):
I know.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
You know what's going on right now, guys, A lot
of home runs. I can't even keep up with it.
There's so many home runs happening right now. Matt Olsen
just hit a Grand Slam for the Braids and it's
the top of the second Inna. They just got going
against the Rockies. So it's four zero in Atlanta for
the Reds. They just started going at it with the Astros.
Jonathan India a two run homer in the top of
(22:33):
the first inning.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
I'm telling you, I can't keep up with it. The Angels.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
Brandon Druy just hit a solo home run, and I
see they've scored again, so it must be another home run.
They're beating the Royals, who I think have lost ten
in a row, to zero. Top of the second inning.
The Mariners scored first. It was JP Crawford who hit
a solo home run. But the White Sox are on
the scoreboard, so Seattle up to one against Chicago. Top
of the second inning. Just a lot of scoring. The
(22:57):
Rangers just scored two to one. Is the score against
the Blue Jays. Bottom of the second inning. The Marlins
have scored one zero. Top of the second inning against
the Nationals.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
Just so many home runs. I love it.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
I love it. Brandon Nimo just hit a home run
for the Mets. They're beating the Cardinals one zero. They're
about to start the second inning. The Orioles and the
Cubs have been going at it. It's the bottom of
the eighth inning in Chicago comes up three to two
against the Orioles. One game officially in the books, it
was the Twins who shut out the Tigers to zero.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
Final score, and I think that's it. There's just so
much scoring. I love it. I love it. It's just so entertaining,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
For so many years we were watching baseball and it
was like scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
So now that's not the case. I'm loving love it.
I mean, it keeps me in it.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Those are back in the day, so and I had
friends of mine very much immerse in the gambling that
loved baseball because you just bet unders. Oh no one
bet a team. You just go under under dab think
I've never forget that. This is one hundred years ago.
The Dodgers had a run once where they went under
twenty one consecutive games, and I had a friend of
(24:01):
mine who was basically doubling down. You let that ride
day after day after day after day after day.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
He let it ride.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
For sure. He has his own island now that from that,
just from that one run.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Right.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
The Cardinals haven't had a great start to the season,
but David Friese, who was a big part of their
twenty eleven World Series title, really coming in clutch when
it mattered in the postseason, he decided to decline his
invitation to join the Cardinals Hall of Fame. He said
he was honored, he was humbled, but ultimately he felt
that he wasn't deserving of the.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Honor, so he's turning it down.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
I mean, I guess I am going to get into this, right.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
I don't turn down Hall of Fame from anything.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
You call me in.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
I'm going, yes, done.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
I mean that's how I feel too. When I was
reading this, I was like, why, but why.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Share?
Speaker 2 (24:54):
I can share a personal experience on something like this.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Okay, well you'll share and share with us why you
don't feel like Bucky and I NBA talk here. The
Athletic is reporting that the Wizards are in serious talk
with the Heat and the Suns on a Bradley Beal trade.
Speaker 6 (25:09):
Bill has a no trade clause in his contract.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Chris Haynes reports that Phoenix can offer a trade package
of DeAndre Ayton and Landry Shammitt to Washington for Bale,
but it's believed that Chris Paul has to be a
part of it along with Shammitt. That's what it would
take for Bill to force his way to the Suns.
That's what they think.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Chris Haynes back to you guys.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
All right, MONTI, Yeah, we have a lot of NBA
trade rumors you want to get to for sure. Once again,
we are live from the ti i raq dot com studios.
All right, let's talk about this David free story because
we've never seen this before anywhere where. David Freeze was
voted in by Cardinals fans and this he spent five
years with the Cardinals, and these teams Hall of Fame
(25:50):
aren't like the you know, the Coopers down Obviously, he
was an All Star, but he was really known for
that amazing twenty eleven postseason when he was both the
Leaks Championship Series MVP and the World Series MVP. I mean,
he had one of those electric postseasons that an otherwise
anonymous player, David Freese became known nationally and so because
(26:14):
of his heroics on that twenty eleven run the Cardinals.
And by the way, the other two inductees, and you
would be hard pressed if you were not a Cardinal
fan or even a baseball fan, jose A Kendo and
Max Lanier. By the way, Max Lanier was a pitcher
that pitched ninety years ago. Okay, so those are the
(26:35):
other inductees into the Cardinals Hall of Fame. But this
story popped up here Bucky. I just thought, boy, there's
a lot of people I've seen going to Hall of
Fames that should have said, you know, I really don't belong.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
No, I mean again, I don't get what I don't belong.
I don't understand that mindset. I really don't like. I
feel like that's someone who's walking around feeling like they're
lesser than the fact. It's got played eleven years in
the in the majors, he played five years for the Cardinals,
and he doesn't feel like he's worthy.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Well, I mean compared to who now bear to Jose
Akendo and Max Lanieri belongs. But if you compare him
to I don't know, Stan Musial, Lou Brock.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Bob Gibson, let me tell let me tell you. If
it was Bucky Brooks, you get to go into the
Ring of Honor. I'm telling them I want my name
right between Bob Gibson and Ozzie Smith, Like no, right
right there?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Okay, Now, I know North Carolina has an athletic Hall
of Fame, right they do?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
And I don't qualify.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Why don't you qull it?
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Don't. Don't qualify because you have to be a unanimous.
In football, you have to be a unanimous all American
unanimousous so like a Lawrence Taylor's, Lawrence Taylor, dre Bli,
Julius Peppers, those guys. The same thing. In basketball, you
have to.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Be like Sam Brian Simmons.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Yeah, b Simmons is there. Yeah, I know my North
Carolina so so so no, so I don't qualify. So
I couldn't even talk my way in. I told you, like,
hopefully some where in North Carolina they're listening. The only
thing I want from there right now is an honorary doctorate.
And the only reason is just because I don't want
to go back to grad school. I don't want to
do anything, but I would like to be recognized as doctor.
And so I would think if I got the honorary doctorate,
(28:14):
I would be able to go on campus and put
on everything and they can give me the honorary and
then you would always have to like, here, you have
to refer to me as doctor Brooks.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Look, here's my thing about halls of fame. That's not
a bad thing. Can I call them that anyway? All right,
doctor Brooks here's my situation. I'm actually in a hallll
of fame, and it's called the Southern California Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame. Okay, my mother not only was Jewish,
she was a Holocaust survivor, right, but I was not
(28:42):
raised Jewish at all. In fact, I've never actually stepped
foot in a synagogue in my life. I didn't have
any bar mitzvah. My mom married a Christian man. And
because my mom was, she was so paranoid about the
aftermath obviously of her upbringing as a Holocaust survivor, she
essentially wanted me to hide my identity. I was even baptized.
(29:02):
Oh so, when I got this notification that I had
been elect obviously he is extremely honored. I mean, Sandy
Cofax is in this, you know. But when I got
up to make my speech and I was hearing a
lot of the other speeches being made about, you know,
their Jewish heritage and everything else, I felt almost like
a like a cheat somebody. And my parents were actually
(29:24):
in the audience when I made this speech. Not that
I'll ever give back the honor, because it's it's a
very deserving honor, but I sort of like the candidness
of David Freeze saying gee, I mean in his mind
he appre and by the way he'd be made it clear,
I'm very appreciative. I hope I'm not offending anybody by this.
(29:44):
I've had time to think about this. But in my mind,
if I think Saint Louis Cardinals, you know, and you're
thinking saying hall of Fame, that should be the best
of the best of the best. I mean, I could
go across the board here, doctor Brooks, and I ca eliminate.
You want so many people from these Halls of Fame.
I know it's like a lifetime honor. But to me,
(30:06):
if I always said this, if I ask you, if
I give you a name and ask and say, are
they a Hall of Famer? And you have to even
think about it for half a second, they're not a
Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Yeah, But like this is like local fan base, local team.
He has to do it. It's it's unfortunate that later
in life maybe he'll rue the day that he turned
it down and he won't be able to go back
in there, because then it won't be any wrong because
it's all crowded, right, it will be way in the
bag like you say, Ricky and Ricky and Kieldon, they're
gonna be in the in the in the in the
Hall of Fame honor.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
It was a picture.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Became outfielder and I think he was an all star
outfielder like that, Like so, I mean to me, it
is one of the more baffling things. Is rare that
people turn down honors and actors.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
I've never heard anybody turned down a Hall of Fame.
We've seen people deny oscars.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Right, I'm telling you right now in my elementary school
call yeah, and today we're gonna put you in the
Hall of Fame for your expoice on field day. Great,
let me know when I can be there and make
sure that you spell my name right on the certificate
like I want them all. And so I cannot understand this.
I can't understand this at all. I had to reread
(31:17):
it just to make sure, like he what he didn't.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Well, I think it for initial responses, how does David
Freeze even get elected to any Hall of fame? And
he realized, oh, it's the Cardinals Hall of Fame. He
had this magical postseason. Without him, they don't win that
twenty eleven World Series. There's no question he wins two MVPs. Yeah,
this series, I just don't understand yea man, But I
mean he's thinking Bob Gibson, He's thinking Stam Musio, he's
(31:41):
thinking Lou Brock. I mean he's thinking.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I would say that alleged, I would say that is
atypical of any athlete that I've ever met, that that
athlete doesn't think that he doesn't belong in those conversations
when he's had a modicum of success in the pros.
Just a sliver, like just an itty bitty sliver they talk.
I mean, think about what we're talking about. People are
(32:04):
talking about big shot Bob being a Hall of Famer,
Robert Hoy like, I.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Mean, Michael Cooper should be in the Hall of Fame,
you know. Okay, so this is yeah, this is again
and we've heard, you know, Don Sanders, by the way,
our prayers with Dion, right, I mean, he might lose
his foot. It's a terrible situation with Dion. But Dion
talked about the water down situation with the Pro Football
Hall of Fame. There should be levels like there's the
(32:31):
first ballot guys, and then you know, and then you
get those senior candidates that they've been in the game
for forty plus years and they finally get the call.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
So so we want to we want to separate the wings.
We want to make sure that all the bust Some
busts can't go in. You know, they can't, they can't.
John Mann used to talk about the bus talking at night.
So now so now they have a VIP section that's
roped off in certain guys can't go talk to the
other guys.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
But I don't know the bust aren't talking, and like, dude,
why are you?
Speaker 9 (33:01):
And by the way, I have talked to many Hall
of Fame people always say maybe they should allow members
of the Hall of Fame to decide who joins their fraternity.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Right, that would not be a good idea. There are
more prejudices that I've heard directly from the mouths of players.
I'll give you one of mine. I give one. So
Randy White, one of the greatest defensive tackles in the
history of the NFL, first ballot Hall of Fame, or
the Manster, if you ask him about Howie Long and
(33:35):
that by and again how because he felt like what
the Raiders did with Howie Long was they purposely moved
him up and down the defensive line and matched them
against the weakest link, and which, by the way, now
is common. Joe Klecko was finally elected Hall of Fame
where they you know, Dan Hamprison. So this became a
(33:56):
new thing about moving guys that could play inside or
outside across the line and creating mismatches. And Randy White goes,
if I had that where they just picked out the
weakest guy on the line and match me up, I
would have had two hundred sacks. So yeah, I mean
there's there's you know, jealousies and everything else. Yeah, I mean,
(34:18):
how many times are you sitting there in the room
when they announced the Pro Bowl teams and you're looking
at somebody or like really really, I mean, come on,
you're like, you gotta be kidding me.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
People get so mad about those those All Star designations
and what you get. And I have a buddy of mine,
Robert Massey, who I played with in Jacksonville. He went
to the Pro Bowl. I think it's Rocky season, rookie
season or somewhere. He goes first year and goes and
he never matched that level of success. And he told me,
and I was a young feet. He was like, you
(34:53):
know what, young Buck, doesn't matter. Whenever they referenced me
from here and to the end of time, they always
have to call me Pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
That's right. So that's why you want the honors, of course.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
So now David Freeze is over here, he's not allowing
himself to be referenced as Cardinals Hall of Famer for life.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
We'll have much more from the Doctor doctor Brooks coming
up here. We continue with some NBA news and we
got a lot of it with the draft coming up
on Thursday. This is Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Hartman and
Bucky Brooks. Fox Sports Saturday. We are coming alive from
the tai Iraq dot Com studios, looking at the leaderboard
(35:32):
today at the US Open again the leaders will not
t offer two more hours. But the scores are low
again today, So who's ever playing out there? The idea
that sunshine would come out and the course would dry
out and the scores would go up has not been
the case. The scores continue to be much lower than
normal at a us Albam. We'll continue update you there.
(35:53):
We have a ton of NBA news to get to.
Bucky Doctor Brooks says, we get ready for the draft
coming up here on Thursday. By the way, we were
just during the break comparing hall of famers from our
two elite basketball schools, me at UCLA Bucket North Carolina.
Some pretty legendary names, you know. You think of some
of these other schools that are hard pressed to find
(36:14):
a single name to put into their Hall of Fame
from their basketball programs. There's too many to choose from
from our schools. All right, So we have the draft
coming up, but there's all kinds of trade news and
everything seems to be centered on the Lakers. And first
of all, we haven't spoken since the Nuggets wrapped up
(36:34):
their series on that Monday against the Miami Heat. By
the way, were you surprised at the end of that game?
And I could ask you about some of the ill
advised shot selection late in that game by Jimmy Butler
and company. But with five and a half seconds to
go down five after missing a shot and the Nuggets
(36:55):
get the rebound, Miami stopped playing and let them run
out the clock. Did that to me? I mean, I
get it? And maybe because they had just called a
time out, so maybe Spolster had said to them, look,
if we if we make a shot, obviously we're gonna
foul and force. But if we miss, eh, let them celebrate.
(37:15):
I'm I'm I'm trying to figure out. I bet because
all of them. Literally the rebound came down. There was
like six seconds left. Denver gets the rebound, and everybody
on that Miami Heat team on the floor just stood.
Not one person made a move.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
They knew. I think I think the down they knew.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
And it almost sounded like they were told.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Maybe and maybe maybe that was the case. I think
when you UH listen to suppose comments after the game, Look, man,
I think he got everything out of his team, and
I agree, and I think it was clear that the
Nuggets were a superior team. And sometimes UH, as a
coach and in life, you just have to tip your
cap and say they were better. I don't think the
(37:59):
Miami Heat played bad. It just ran against a ran
up against a better, more talented team.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Well, the Nuggets dominated. They were sixteen and four in
this postseason.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Yeah, no, they lost.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Four games, and we can go back in the aftermath
of There's sweep of the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals,
when Lebron James was asked about about next year's roster,
you know, team, is this a stepping stone to something
better next season? And as immediate response was, I don't
know what our roster is going to look like. And
when he said that to me, it meant, look, we
(38:31):
got better, but our roster as it is now is
not good enough to beat that team. No, and I'm
here to win championships. So what we have now is
better than what we had before. But the bar's been set.
It's the Denver Nuggets, and what we have now is
not good enough to beat them. So when we hear
(38:51):
about you know, whether it's James Harden now, I know
you're a hardened guy.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Not like that. I like in Washington play.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
You remember when we were filling out our MVP ballots
before the postseason. I was being funny, you had hard
on your ballot.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
I had him on ballot.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I was being how would Harden fit in with Lebron
and knowing that you would not be able to re
sign Reeves or Murra and any of those guys.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
It wouldn't work. You can't you can't bring him, You
can't bring him here like it doesn't it doesn't work.
And look, I think the Lakers were fortunate in terms
of how everything broke their way, but they needed to
get swept by the Nuggets so everyone could realize how
far they have to go to be a championship team.
And we'll see what James Harden to me is not
(39:34):
an answer, Chris Paul is not an answer, like the
they have to want to take care of their own guys,
Austin Reeves like, make sure to get those guys before
they start thinking elsewhere.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
On one team talking trade right now is the Chicago
Bulls Zach Levine, and we know that Zach would love
to return to LA. Now we mentioned guys like Harden
and Paul getting along in ears. What about Zach Levine again,
if you were to pay him, you would not be
able to Tane Reeves and Hatchmurrow.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
It's hard because, man, those two guys that you're talking
about giving up. Two guys talk about giving up. I
don't know if I'm willing to give reason tomorrow. It'll
take a great player, not an average player.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
I agree. I'll have more on that a little bit
later on. Plus, we've got some NFL news to get
to and yes, what about the draft on Thursday? We
have the latest. This is Fox Sports Radio rolling along
in another busy sports Saturday. Fox Sports Saturday broadcasting live
from the tire rack dot Com studios. Ty rack dot com.
We're gonna help get you there and I'm match selection
(40:36):
fast reshipping free road has a protection over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way tire buying
should be. Tomorrow, it's Father's Day. So I saw some
stats about a comparison between Father's Day and Mother's Day.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Oh, it's a big difference now.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
In terms of how much money is spent on dads
versus moms. And I heard one woman mom explain why
there was such a discrepancy, and I mean again, she
was stereotyping women versus men, but basically saying that the
reason so much money is being spent on women is
(41:24):
that they have a far broader list of needs. Like,
in other words, you have a better list of possible
gifts for mom than you do with dad. You know
how dads are pretty much, I mean, my attitude toward
my kids on Father's Day is there's some acknowledgment you
(41:44):
know that just you know, a little nod, preferably a
card in which you just you know, actually say something
that I can remotely construe with something complimentary towards me,
or you know, thanks for the effort, or something along
those lines. I have wonderful children, by the way, so
I sort of have jest about that. But that that's
that's the phenomenon, they say, is that, Well, if you
(42:07):
look at the wish list of a woman versus a man,
a mom versus a dad, the women have far longer list,
so there's more to choose from. So, Bucky, are you
expecting a huge hoopla for Father's Day tomorrow for your kids?
Speaker 3 (42:22):
I am not expecting a big deal. I'm pretty low
key when it comes to those things. But my kids
are way so I don't. I don't expect much of anything.
Phone call, texts, little little something like that.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Well, let me ask you this, would you be disappointed
if one of your kids or both of your kids
didn't even remember that it was Father's Day?
Speaker 7 (42:43):
With that?
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Yeah? And that would that would be that would be
herful If you kids don't remember this Father's Day like
that would be kind of you saying kind of sad.
I mean, so already we already get the short end
of the stick when it comes to the holidays and
the celebration and those things. We're basically sharing the holiday
with a gun teenth this year, so you don't even
get the full expression of the day. And then when
(43:05):
you think about, you know, when it's Mother's Day, we
got to go to these elaborate places to feed mom.
You know, Mom has to eat at Ruth Chris and
Morton's and all this, and then Dad has shuffled to
Chili's and Outback. Nothing nothing, nothing wrong with those places, respectively,
but it's certainly a difference. And then a lot of
(43:27):
times at those places, not only are you shuffled to
those places, maybe let's throw in red lobster too. But
when the when the bill comes, Dad sometimes has to
pay for Father's Day meal for everybody because Dad is
there and everyone's used to day grabbing the wallet. So
it's a difficult life.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
You want you want to hear the ultimate on having
to pay the bill. So my birthday is the fourth
of July, right, oh, okay? And I was working, which
I you know, I work whenever I come work obviously
all the time. And I actually was working on my
birthday the fourth of Joly doing TV and my ex
(44:06):
wife wanted to have dinner with the kids and me,
but she also brought her boyfriend at the time, and
we all went out to dinner right near the studio
of where I work, and the boyfriend was there. I
didn't I didn't hate this guy, like how your first
is the boyfriend? The boyfriend? And when the bill came,
(44:31):
I ended up painting for my own birth. My kids
weren't like old enough yet at that point to pay
the bill, and my my ex wife didn't have any money.
So so and then and they we're paying for freeloader.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Freeloader has to hits a free meal too.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
Oh no, so I know immediately, big big, right now
you are like her around yess what your wife or
was she your wife?
Speaker 10 (44:59):
Freck's wife at the time, ex wife? Okay, she couldn't
even have pull out a credit card. That just doesn't
Your bank accounts paid for every so she had at
least just done the writing of the signature.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
I'm trying to figure out why the boyfriend.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
Is even if she had had the money in there.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Why is the boyfriend that the boyfriend is not a dad?
Why is he there?
Speaker 2 (45:16):
Yeah, exactly, he wasn't a dad.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
Why is he Why is he there the Cotails apartment. Yeah,
we should have told him at the door.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
I remember, I remember sitting at the table and we
took this very uncomfortable. It was not uncomfortable. It was
my two boys were sitting with either side of me.
He was taking this picture. I have TV makeup on
because literally we did this dinner between the six and
the ten o'clock news, so I had that, you know,
on on set. You look good off the TV, this
(45:47):
ghostly look, Phantom of the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
It can't be.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
The boyfriend was not in the picture. Think anyway that
that at least we just save that.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
Because we're gonna have to have a little talk on
the top.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
But I think we hit a nerve with Bucky on
this whole discrepancy between Father's Day and Mother's Day. What
is your thoughts, Sam on the discrepancy of these holidays?
Do you treat your parents any different on the holidays?
Speaker 10 (46:07):
I send them a nice card. I forgot to get
my dad anything. But let me just say that is.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
So common, Like dad is just like shuffled over.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
It's almost like those hard to shop for always like
that's really they always say that, right, we don't want
anything when women say that as well. They say, you know,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (46:30):
You don't have to give me anything, but let you
not show up with something from all try try that
out because you know you know better. And so But
with Dad is like, well dad said he didn't want anything.
You think Dad really wants to have to lay out
what he wants, Like even if you send them one
of those RinkyDink gift cards that could come on the phone,
like via text, like a ten dollars thing, you have
(46:52):
to get Dad something. And the fact that you just
send them something after this, oh my god, it's so
dismissing the holiday.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Look at I understand and you know, now Juneteenth obviously
is a national holiday, and that's fine. I mean, there's
a lot of things to remember and honor and everything else.
But the pressure on these holidays, you know too, whether
you're either either you have a gift to buy or
you have to celebrate in some way and you maybe
you have to pay for you to come over.
Speaker 10 (47:20):
American society is based around buying stuff year round, just nonstops.
Howmy works, I know, but maybe that's not materialism, just
NonStop consumption and consumption. Our economy doesn't work if people
don't spend money retail money. But no, listen, I just
think moms probably deserve a bigger day because they carry
(47:42):
your birth, you child. That's if you're talking about one part.
We don't have to put them in our bellies for night.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
Oh my god, you know what we're.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
Talking nine months in the belly. I haven't been You've
been around around for me for this already. Account for
the last twenty eight years. Bank account is responsible.
Speaker 3 (48:05):
That's nice.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Bread is good, but a lot Sam.
Speaker 11 (48:10):
Sam is saying all this. For the last week and
a half, I've been getting up at like one or
two in the morning because my baby runs up and
starts crying consolably. Yes, while mom saw his loss right,
because yes, I was the same, Like I get it.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
I get it, but like that, that's how it supposed
to be. So like normally, when you're doing the thing
and you have the little baby, you know what I'm saying,
you're trying to sleep train him. And so like mom
finishes the last shift at nine o'clock, so Dad inevitably
has to wake up at midnight or one o'clock to
do that, because heaven help, somebody's sleep is interrupted, you know,
that's not like dad sleep is interrupted, you know, so
(48:47):
Dad has to get up and he ends up rocking
himself to sleep in the glider chair, trying to put
the baby back to sleep. But no one remembers that
eighteen years later when you're thinking about.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
Stay at work so that you didn't have to.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
I honestly, when my first two kids, my boys are
like nineteen months apart, so we had the baby babies
like at the same time. My daughter was a couple
years later, and I had a nine am radio show,
and so there were like literally nights when I never
slept like none of my kids. I always like, oh,
(49:20):
my kids sleeps like an angel at night. None of
my kids did. They were always hungry, they were crying
and everything all night long. Mom can't get out. And
then I'd go on the air at nine and I
remember like looking at the lights saying, I literally have
no idea what day it is where I am right now,
and that light would go on. Whatever energy reserve I
had left I would install into the show. I'd be
(49:42):
off at noon or one o'clock. I'd be driving home,
passed out at the wheel. Middle of the day. Sounds safe,
It was not. Sick. I actually I actually had I'm
not kidding, not serious accents, but you know, bumper to
bumper traffic where I rolled into the back of a
car in front of me, sort of dozing within a
mile of the exact same spot in downtown LA, like
(50:06):
two months apart. Because I'm not get at the studio.
I'm not a napper. The idea of napping that if
you critically need that sleep, you gotta nap. I can't.
Speaker 11 (50:17):
But I bet you could still name the top five
Heisman candidates in nineteen seventy four even with all that,
like a sleep.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Well, first of all, nineteen seventy four with David Humm,
who at Nebraska was known as Dave Ham by the way,
was fifth and the voting that your Tom Clements of
Notre Dame was fourth. I don't have to go where
the winners. I've seen everything else Archie griff and Anthony Davis,
Joe Washington. But anyway, so no, none of that changes.
(50:46):
That always is in my head. But I'm just going
to do a shout out to the dads out there
that maybe you're going to be a little disappointed tomorrow
and understand you're not alone. Okay, you're not alone.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
Welcome to the club.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Oh now that your dad and you bro, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (51:03):
Welcome to getting short change for the rest of your life.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Yeah that's fine, keep the keep the keep the joke.
Speaker 10 (51:09):
Dad's also get to like just like escape from everybody
and be like, I can to watch football now?
Speaker 7 (51:13):
Really?
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Oh oh so tomorrow Father's Day. Guess what I'm going
to watch football? What are you watching? Us FL?
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Great, we have it on right now in the study.
Speaker 10 (51:23):
I think that maybe then we should change Father's Day
to the fall so that dad can have a Sunday
of grilling and NonStop NFL and leave me the hell alone.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
That's all I want for Do I get to grill
just for myself?
Speaker 3 (51:35):
Yeah, of course, of course you gotta. You gotta make
your own bring your meat, bring your meat both, like
bring your meat and season it out there, because no
one's gonna cook for you.
Speaker 10 (51:44):
Like there's a lot of dads want to just grill
for themselves, Like the dad.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Was eating all the cheese, like you bought all the cheese.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I can't wait. I can't wait for you.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
I do always want to work on the cars and
all the house where the outdoor work and everything and
that's because.
Speaker 3 (52:02):
You know what, you know what Dad's really like, Dad's
love tools. I can't wait for Dad to get a
hack saw that he doesn't use. But everyone sits they're
happy because like, oh we got him a tool, we
got him something from home depot like none of it.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
I just give him a sleeve of golf balls. So anyway,
I want to just mention that as a as a
dad myself, and look, I love my children desperately, but
you know it's not gonna be It's not gonna be
huge tomorrow. And I'm okay with that. That's actually I'm
not okay with it. I'm not gonna make any more
(52:38):
excuses celebrate Father's Day.
Speaker 3 (52:40):
Out there, all right?
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Coming up on the other side, GameRant, oh my, my,
my my, is the twenty five game suspension worthy of
the crime? We'll discuss. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
Speaker 6 (52:54):
Take time to be a dad today.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
Steve Harbin and Bucky Brooks. Dad's yeah, that's that's so
we are. Dad's listening out there. We're thinking about you
on this Father's Day. By the way, once again, we
are live from the tai Iraq dot Com studio. Daddy Daddy, Now,
everybody has called me daddy. As you know, Dayax refers
(53:17):
to me as daddy, and other people I know call
me daddy. All right, So before we get to the
Jah Morant suspension, I want to drop in this Bob
Huggins thing. Bob Huggins is the answer to this question.
(53:39):
Name one of the five least deserving members of the
Basketball Hall of Fame. The answer would be Bob Huggins.
Bob Huggins has been coaching basketball. Let's put it this way.
He's been coaching at the collegiate level as either an
assistant or head coach since nineteen seventy seven. He took
(54:02):
the University of Cincinnati to one Final four remember the
Nick van Exel days, Bucky, And then he took West
Virginia to the Final four back in twenty nine to
twenty ten season. He is one of those Hall of
very goods. Never won a championship. In fact, over the
(54:23):
last several years, his West Virginia teams have been pretty subpar.
But I guess if it's just pure longevity, then I
guess then he is deserving of his Hall of Fame status.
I just wouldn't put him there with I don't know,
guys like John Wooden or Dean Smith or you know
guys like that. Anyway, So Bob Huggins got arrested for
(54:44):
a DUI yesterday. This is a sixty nine year old
man who had a near fatal heart attack several years ago,
by the way, I mean like his heart stopped. If
people had not been on site, Bob Huggins would have
been gone. He survived that and continue his coaching career.
(55:04):
And then several weeks ago he got busted for seeing
some anti gay remarks slam, you know, and the university
jumped in said, gee, Bob, that's a problem. We're gonna
suspend you for three games. Games. It won't matter, obviously,
we're going to deduct a million dollars from your pay.
But after this incident, by the way, sixty nine years old,
(55:28):
and he had blood alcohol at point two toy one,
And that is a big man. When you're the size
of Bob Huggins, do you know much alcohol he has
to consume to get his blood alcohol level at point
two one?
Speaker 3 (55:44):
I mean, he's been a long day. I mean, you
talking about a holiday sucker right there. I mean he is,
that's a giant man. Yeah, I mean he's consuming him
left and right.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
That's correct, and he's on the road in danger begs. Okay,
so he's a big recycled guy. There you go at
least and the Beils kids all right, So I mean,
I mean the obvious answer if your West Virginia is
fired now not His new contract not only had a
(56:15):
suspension coming up for the upscoming season and a million
dollars deductive from his contract, but also it's a one
year deal. So now it's it's easy to say bye
bye to Bob Huggins, because, honestly, Bucky, when you're a
coach recruiting and you go into that family room with
(56:36):
you know, mom and dad and you know, saying I'll
take care of your kid, a guy like Bob Huggins,
who by the way, was busted for a DUI about
twenty years ago as well, he already had a duy
in his resume, he wouldn't seem to bring a lot
of credibility to the room saying that he knows what's
best for your son.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
Right, Yeah, it would be tough. It'd be tough to
entrust it. It's your son's fate with him, because he's
proven to be a bad decision maker. At times. I'm
talking about two DUIs, some other things that have kind
of popped up in his background. It just doesn't feel
Sometimes you feel icky. And I think if I am
(57:18):
a parent of a kid the perspective basketball players think
about going to West Virginia, I would have to pause
before making that just based on the amount of trouble
that he's been over the last few years.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
I mean, I would have to sit down and say,
let me ask you this coach, coach, I mean, there's
a responsibility, Bucky. You're a coach. Yeah, you have to
set an example as the coach. There's a certain level
of responsibility, right for many of your players, maybe even
take on a father figure to some degree, yes, Ben,
(57:51):
and what's happening in their home life, and there's a
great responsibility to that. Whether you're a high school not
so much in the pros, but nearly in the high school.
On the collegiate level, that's a responsibility. I would just
want to know. I would be concerned, first of all,
thankful that he didn't kill anybody. M Hm, what's going
(58:12):
on in your life, Bob? You know, I mean, you
had a near fatal heart attack, You're drinking point two
one for a man that size, that is it if
that's kegs going down his throat and what's going on
in your life that you felt like, yeah, this is
(58:33):
this is this is the ride I want to go today.
Oh but you and get behind the wheel.
Speaker 3 (58:37):
Yeah, he obviously wasn't thinking. If he was, he just
thought he would make it. But it's just look, it's
unfortunate because he put a lot of people's lives at
risk when he got behind the wheel. Nothing wrong with
him drinking and doing his own thing, but he's to
take it over take a ride. He can't be driving
because it's dangerous, it's reckless. We've seen it time and
time again, end up in in negative fashion. So luckily
(59:00):
he was able to not put himself in harsway, him
or anybody else in harsway. But now you got to look,
he had paid the piper. Second time he's done it. Uh,
he's second time he's been in trouble and less than
a month. You have to he's gonna have to do
some some soul searching.
Speaker 2 (59:17):
I mean, he's made enough money. He's sixty nine years old.
You know you're you're your coaching days are over. Simple,
I mean that that that's a pretty easy decision.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Yes see, I don't know, like we appear to be
in a look. Man, there there was a time where
we thought Ray Patino's coaching career was over here. He is.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
Absolutely when he locked up the diner there and did
his thing with the lady. Sure, oh, I'm not saying
but I but if you're West Virginia, somebody else may
hire Bob Huggins. Although at this point of his career,
I mean, you know, he's you know, pushing seventy.
Speaker 3 (59:53):
But he may he may go down. He could probably
drop down a little bit. Yeah, he could go to
a lower profile school and just coach for the love.
I mean, think about Rolie Masamino did that for years.
Jim Calhoun is doing it right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
Jim Calhoun doing it absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
I think for a lot of coaches, it's hard to
ever let the coach go. Like the coach my man,
Larry Brown coaching was kicking around.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
What was he in? Grease? I understand that. I understand that.
But if you're West Virginia, I'm sorry, coach, we can't.
We would lose all credibility as a program if we
had to retain you. I mean, just it looks we
already just literally months ago, had to give you a
slap on the wrist, and now you do this. I mean,
there's just there's no way to survive, all right. By

GameRant suspension on the other side, but first we find
out what's trending. And I always nervously check my Twitter
(01:00:58):
account if I've said anything that's offensive to launch.
Speaker 6 (01:01:04):
No, what are you talking about? You offensive?
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
Never?
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
No, never. We are getting plenty of input about Father's Day.
Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
Oh yes, yes, definitely poor Father's It is true.
Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
It's definitely not the same.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
It's not well, I know, how is it with your dad?
Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
My dad?
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
My plan is to take him out to dinner when
I get off of work here tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (01:01:29):
So I'm going to take him out.
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
That's my dad loves having a little cocktail and some food.
Speaker 6 (01:01:33):
That's his style.
Speaker 4 (01:01:36):
He really likes lazy dog Ali's Dog Cafe.
Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
He really likes that place and it's a good happy hour.
So that's my plan.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
That's his sole daughter.
Speaker 6 (01:01:46):
I'm his only daughter, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
And I have one of those as well. I guess,
you know, you feel an ad of responsibility to dad.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
No, no, I don't know, but I am.
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
I guess his little girl. Since my brothers are so
much older than me, that's for sure. Yeah, and my
oldest brother became a father now this will be his
second year as a father, so I have to worry
about him too.
Speaker 6 (01:02:07):
And I actually forgot. I hope he's not listening.
Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
I literally forgot he's a dad, and I was like,
oh my goodness, I gotta think of something for JC.
Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
This is one of the reasons I even brought this
up today because I'm sure a lot of people have
forgotten that tomorrow is Father's and I knew what his
father is.
Speaker 4 (01:02:21):
I just still forget that my brother is a father,
even though it's like I know I have a nephew,
but I forget that he's a father.
Speaker 6 (01:02:26):
So that's what that means, you know what.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
He ain't so oh yeah, but it is it is
very different, I agree, and I it's just it is
what it is, and I don't know why, but it is.
And when women say they don't want anything, we're lying.
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
Always.
Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
Always, don't ever believe a woman that tells you she
doesn't want to gift.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
If you show up with nothing, pray for yourself.
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
Okay, because it's not gonna go well, let's talk about baseball.
Tonight's Yankees Red Sox game has been postponed due to
inclement weather. It's been officially announced. We had a lot
of baseball going on, and like I said, a lot
of scoring. The Marlins and the Nationals are tied at
one apiece top of this six inning. Rangers up on
the Blue Jays three to two, bottom.
Speaker 6 (01:03:02):
Of the fifth.
Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
The A's have scored first against the Phillies one zero
top of the sixth inning. The Angels were tied with
the Royals, not anymore. LA has retaken the lead. It's
four to two bottom of the fifth inning. Mariners up
on the White Sox two to one top of the fifth.
The Reds are still up on the Astros three to
one top of the fifth inning. And it's been such
a great start for the Braves. They are just killing
(01:03:25):
it so many home runs. First of Grand slam from
Matt Olson, then solo home runs from Ozzi Alby's, Edie
Rosadio and Orlando Alcia, and Atlanta is beating Colorado nine
to one. Bottom of the fifth inning. Birds have added
some more runs, so they're blanking the Pirates four zero.
Top of the sixth inning. The Cardinals are still up
on the Mets, but the Mets have made it a
little closer. It's four to three in New York. Bottom
(01:03:47):
of the fifth inning. And you guys were talking about
Bob Huggins. Yeah, that whole story is terrible. He kept
saying he was like in Columbus, or from Columbus, or
near Columbus, and he was nowhere near that. There were
empty bots of beer in his car. But like Bucky,
doctor Bucky right exactly. That it's a good thing. Nothing
beyond that happened. That, that's all that had That's all
(01:04:10):
that took place. New England Patriots second year cornerback Jack
Jones was arrested on Friday after two firearms were fold
in his travel luggage at Boston's Logan Airport.
Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
I don't get why you would do that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Back to you guys, all right, thank you very much again,
Mancey And I'm sure your dad's gonna be thrilled to
be at.
Speaker 6 (01:04:29):
The Lazy Lazy Dog. He loves Lazy Dog.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Yeah, I know of a Lazy Dog. I've never been
in there.
Speaker 4 (01:04:36):
They have a great happy hour, great happy hour, not
just the food, but the drinks. They have a lot
of different types of food, not just stuff that's gonna
make you feel like you're gonna have a heart attack,
you know, like you go to a restaurant and there's
a lot of like, you know, fries, pizza, burgers. I
feel like Lazy Dog offers you a lighter side of things.
I get there lettuce wraps with tofu n which is
(01:04:56):
so yummy. They got great Brussels sprouts.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
It's just a little lighter so that and that goes
well with you know, shots of Jack Daniels.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
Oh well, I'm not doing shots of Jack. That's my
father's will probably do a shot of jamison. I will
be doing shots of tequila, which goes with everything.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Yes, all right, very good. Should be fun. Yeah, I'm
sure he'll appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
I'd be Father's day.
Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
We are once again coming alive from the tire rack
dot Com Studios by the way again, the leaders will
not be teen off in more than an hour. At
the US Open, what one golfer named Tom Kim is
seven under today after eleven holes, six under on the tournament.
So low scores can be had once again, whether it's
(01:05:39):
sunshine or June gloom, it doesn't matter on this La
Country Club, of course. All right, let's talk about Sean
morand here twenty five game suspension. I actually mentioned I
thought a fifty game suspension was an order and then
would be challenged by the players Union. No one seems
to be challenging this twenty five games. Again, we're talking
(01:06:02):
about ja Moran, who has broken no loss, no loss
carrying a gun if you've got a license, and where
he is it is not against the law. He hasn't
been charging with any crime. It's the idea that he
is perceived as promoting that guns are a toy to
(01:06:23):
be played with. Yes, and that is certainly not a
message that the NBA wants to get out there. Do
you believe the twenty five game suspension Bucky was justified?
To Lenyon to actually, what did you think?
Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
I mean? It comes in close to being about right.
I knew when he had the missteps so close to
after his previous one that he was going to get hammered.
I actually expected to be for half the season. I
thought it was gonna be like forty games for the stuff.
And everyone will point to this incident with the gun,
and you know, they talk about gun laws and those things,
(01:06:59):
but he's had a series of little dust ups away
from the court. You think about the two gun situations,
You think about the red light on the Indiana Pacers
players or players that they said Joz entourage or whatever
kind of put on them like a red light, which
is crazy. And then you think about it the mall.
(01:07:21):
He had a little situation where there was a little
kerfuffle at the mall and maybe he was involved because
his mom had called him because there was a situation
at a foot locker. And so there's just a lot
of stuff and I could see this as the NBA
just trying to hey, let's shut this down right quick.
This make sure we get you right back on the
on the same page and that you understand exactly what
(01:07:44):
is expected of you, because like it or not, he
is the face of the NBA, Like that's that's what's coming.
He was going to be the face of the NBA.
So you have to get him right, You have to
kind of teach him some of those hard lessons. It's
unfortunate that he has to learn of everybody, but look,
everybody has to learn has learned how to deal with it.
Speaker 7 (01:08:05):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
It was similar in some ways to the Fernando Tatist
junior suspension. Someone that's being promoted as the new face
of Major League Baseball and then you get busted for peds.
Now different things obviously than you know, waving around a
gun in multiple places. I again, he can live his
life as he so chooses, but when you work for somebody,
(01:08:25):
when somebody is giving you a pay check, they can
set the rules.
Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Over the years, I've had bosses, and I've been very
fortunate in my radio and i television careers to work
for employers that have given me leniency in many respects
as opposed to some of my compatriots that work for
other establishments. But even that said, there have been times,
believe me, when I've been called in saying, look, we
(01:08:53):
would prefer if you really don't go that way, mister
Luce Cannon. Okay, just you know, we understand, Yeah, but
it doesn't look good for any of us if we
go down that path. And I accept that because again
you're I'm employed by you, and so this is something
that Jean Moran is going to learn. I mean, Adam Silver,
(01:09:13):
I'm sure just sat down with him, like, really, you
literally said to my face after the first incident that
you made a mistake. You understand that it doesn't look good.
I'm not going to do this again, and then you
just lie to me. Yeah, I mean, it's certainly not ideal.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
And that's why he was going to get the book
thrown at him, because he sat in there one on
one and he lied, and they able to kind of
make him have to atone for the situation. And so
part of that is I think what we're seeing from
Memphis is a complete roster reset, a complete franchise reset.
Dylan Brooks has been told he's no longer welcome, even
(01:09:52):
though I don't think on the court he did anything
worthy of being removed. And then you have, i mean,
the noise more stuff around the team. So I just
don't know if to ever overcome it and become the
team that we want them to be.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Here's the problem with Dylan Brooks. Unlike Draymond. Dylan doesn't
bring all that much to the game. I mean, I mean,
he's not a good shooter. I mean, if it's Draymond,
I put up with it, right because he's one of
the best defenders in the league. He does a lot
of things for me on the court. If you're Dylan
Brooks and all you're bringing his attitude, you got to
back it up with some game. I can understand that.
(01:10:26):
Let me ask you this, what happens if it happens again,
is that it three strikes and you're out. Get like,
I mean, I don't know what you do. I mean,
I mean, if you're trying to teach somebody a lesson,
and I'm one of the what I keep getting reminded
of back in the day when the Darryl Strawberries and
(01:10:47):
the Steve hows are suspended multiple times for drug offenses
and they kept bringing him back. Why I could straw
It still hit the ball five hundred feet or you know,
Steve Howe, could you know still throw ninety plus on
the gun? Is a left hander. And that's the bottom line, Bucky,
is that if they still have something to offer. Remember
the Ray Rice situation. Yeah, I mean Ray Rice had
(01:11:10):
been a highly productive running back in the NFL, but
he was on the down side. Yep, he was coming
off by far his worst season, So it was very
easy to just say you're done, Ray, You're not worth
the trouble.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Yes, yeah, Like that's the thing. Those are the pros
and cons with every player. You wig that within the
confines of the team. If we keep him around, how
is he going to impact his teammates negatively and positively?
And so I understand why you got to come at
him because you're trying to protect the brand and he
(01:11:45):
is part of the brand at a high level. But really,
talking about everybody that works, you had to do with
a lot of stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
Do you want Ja Moran on your team right now
if you're the Memphis Grizzlies.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
I mean I would, I would take him, but I
just got to make sure I have the right coach
in place.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Okay, let's say the coach is doctor Bucky Brooks. What
are you saying to him?
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Well, one, we got to talk about like growing up,
and there's a thing that comes with it when you're
the face of the franchise. I think we've talked about
it here, Like in football, when you look at the quarterback.
The quarterback has to appear to be presidential that he
can handle all the stuff on the outside. Definitely like
a season vet. John Moran is the face of the Grizzlies,
(01:12:26):
and so we have to say, hey, man, this thing
is built around you, from the way that we play
on the court to the ad campaign and those things.
So when you get a smudge, you put a stand
on the rest of the organization. So you have to
understand that when you're out and about then we were
talking about, hey, when you're out, and about what is
it that you're doing when you're out, because you see
the videos. Because the thing that's more alarming than me,
(01:12:46):
even beyond the gunplay, is just the heavy drinking that
John Moran is able to do. And I know, and
I played with teammates who've been able to quote unquote
relax before they play a big game. But man, and
so I would be worried about that and the lifestyle.
And now I'm really worried for his safety too, because
(01:13:07):
it's not only you know, him carrying the gun and
doing those things. Is young younger people talking about him
talking to him. Everyone's trying to size them up.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
By the way all the talk that the second gun
may have been a toy gun, that only makes matters worse,
like a water pistol, because he's still playing around with it.
The offense isn't carrying the gun, it's displaying that the
gun is some kind of toy or something something to
be played with. There are a lot of responsible gun
(01:13:40):
owners out there that understand a responsibility when you own
a gun. You know, just you know, cavalier attitude about
guns is not acceptable period. No, So all right, coming
up on the other side, all right, I got another
another from an NBA owner that said something that they
(01:14:05):
probably regret. They said, we'll explain. This is Fox Sports Saturday,
Steve Harbin and Bucky Brooks, Fox Sports Saturday, and we
are live from the Tyraq dot Com studios. It's amazing
how the Lakers, despite the fact that over the last
(01:14:30):
ten years they've had seven losing seasons, one year where
they were bouncing the first round of the playoffs, the
latest run to the Western Conference finals where they were swept,
and then of course they're bubble victory for an NEBA
championship in twenty twenty. It hasn't been the best ten
year run for the Lakers, right, but they're always in
(01:14:52):
the news, Like I almost literally every trade rumor that
I'm reading about right now has some connection to the Lakers.
But there was something else that happened that I just
was aghast Genie Buss, who inherited the ownership along with
her brothers and sisters following their father's passing ten years ago.
(01:15:15):
And again, I just said, this is the worst tenure
run in Lakers history under their leadership. She decided. And
by the way, this Bucky. I've known Jeanie a long
time and I consider a dear friend. It's nothing personal
against Genie, but I think she needs a history lesson.
She was asked or she volunteered the five most important
(01:15:38):
Lakers of all time?
Speaker 3 (01:15:39):
Ooh, most important.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
The most important Lakers of all time. And these were
the five names, she said, Magie Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, yes,
Kobe Bryant, Okay, Phil Jackson, and Lebron James. Now, one
guy was immediately offended. His name is Jerry Wes, who
(01:16:06):
not only was a Lakers superstar player the logo, but
he was the architect of the great teams, including the
Kobe Shack teams and then I'm also thinking to myself, Geene,
did you forget about another guy named Jerry Buss? I mean,
if you talk about people that were important in Laker history,
(01:16:29):
how can you not talk doctor Jerry Buss. He took
Lakers to show time. If it hadn't been for Jerry Buss,
not only would the Lakers not be who they are,
the league wouldn't be what it is without his presence.
He was the single most important owner, certainly in NBA history,
(01:16:52):
in terms of the impact he had on that entire league.
So I listened to it, and I'm like, you have
something against guys named Jerry. I don't know what's going
on there, but how do you how do you say
Lebron James over Jerry West.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Yeah, that's tough. Lebron James getsting out over Jerry West,
Elgin Baylor? H Yeah, Shack, I mean, will Shack doesn't
Wilt Chamberlain? Yeah. I mean, if we go all the
way back to George micingcount like, I mean, just.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Like this, by the way, another big lot of Lakers,
a lot of Lakers to choose.
Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
From, and we go all modern.
Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
You know, this is not to diminish anything that Lebron
has done over the course of his entire career, but
in five years of the Lakers, no, not there.
Speaker 3 (01:17:43):
Yeah, I mean it hasn't been great. Hasn't been the
greatest part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
Yeah, and again he's at the end of his career.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
Yeah, I mean, he probably had to do more work
than he anticipated when he came over. He thought he
would have a squad, a d would do some of
the heavy lifting. He would kind of come in on
special occasions and fly moments. But it hasn't been like that.
He's been needed to play at a high level. He
hasn't been able to do that consistently. So it's it's the.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
Struggle, the idea that she would not mention her own father.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
Maybe she maybe in in retro she didn't think about
it like this.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
She was like, well, she she saw what happened. She
knew what happened when her father bought the team, when
he made the decision to go for Magic Johnson and
the number one overall pick his first year of the owner,
winning a championship that first year. I mean, the problem
with doctor Buss, and not maybe not a problem, but
in the perception of Bus, is that he came off
(01:18:40):
as a poor man Hugh Hefner, Right, I mean he
surrounded by all these beautiful women and you know, carrying
on a personal life that maybe betrayed the reality of
how valuable he was, not just the Laker organization, but
the entire league.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Yeah, you know, guys, it's kind of crazy. Like now
when you think about it, like she sat there and
saw it, had a first up close view of her
dad doing it and getting it together, put it together.
She if you look at all the accounts and stuff,
she played a big role in getting it up in
(01:19:17):
terms of the branding and those things. So she should
have acknowledged her dass thing. But I mean to me,
it is just so hard to break down Laker's history
and boil it down into five names.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
By the way, have you been watching Winning Time?
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
I have watched Winning Time? Yes, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
By the way, I will appear season two will come
out in August. You'll hear my voice, oh five of
the seven episodes. I was in three episodes in season
one as a talk show guy.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
So some of the things I say this time are
really off the wall. Yeah. I'm always ripping on magic
or you know, pat Riley or whatever. All right coming
up in the next hour, we're going to talk. So yeah,
Adam Kaplan's gonna join us. Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider
plus more NBA trades. This is Fox Sports Radio having
(01:20:07):
a good old time here on another busy sports Saturday,
Fox Sports Saturday. We are broadcasting live from the tire
rag dot com studios tyrack dot com. We're gonna help
get you there and I'm at selection fast, free shipping,
free road hass or protection over ten thousand recommended installers
tyreck dot com. The way tire buying should be reminder
(01:20:28):
again that tomorrow is Father's Day. Just saying just a reminder,
this a little reminder. Tomorrow is Father's Day. Do something
for that. Dad's been there, you know, big supporter and
everything else. You know, I mean as a father myself
and Bucky or Dad. You know, you know what it is.
You know, you do everything for each children.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
That's what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
A little just a little treat, hopefully finding something you
enjoy doing in life, which you and I are both
very lucky to do. True, yes, but still you know
certain responsibilities out there. By the way, are both of
your children athletes?
Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Let's see my son plays baseball. My daughter, you know,
my daughter runs track.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
So yes, did you have visions like when your kids
are born being an athlete?
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Like you have all kinds of visions you have, you
have all kinds of stuff that you think they're going
to do. So now, but both of them, both of
them are great. Both of them have Uh yes, I
mean what do you want from your kids?
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
You want them to be happy period, happy and healthy,
happy and healthy and makes it makes it very easy.
Speaker 7 (01:21:34):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
By the way, once again, we are getting ready. We're
gonna have Adam Kaplan joining us coming up here shortly.
Of course he is our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider. Uh,
you know all the O t a's are over right now.
By the way, do you see this story that Aaron
Rodgers turned down a chance to become a New England Patriot?
Speaker 4 (01:21:57):
Mmm?
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Mmm?
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
How do you think that marriage would have worked if
Aaron Rodgers agreed with Belichick? And because Aaron Rodgers is
not Tom Brady, I mean I'm not I'm talking in
terms of person, no, but you.
Speaker 3 (01:22:14):
Know what, here's what I would say. What would Aaron
Rodgers game look like if he had someone like Bill Belichick,
who was a known detailed person. Could Bill Belichick have
found a way to elevate Aaron Rodgers game beyond what
it's already been throughout this time in his league. I'm
just curious. Maybe he teaches him something that's different coming
(01:22:37):
from a defensive standpoint. Maybe he teaches them in terms
of management, game management, understanding, how to control the game,
how to do more with less, how to play as
an aging player and do those things. Maybe you would
have benefited from learning.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Do you think I think he may have offered that.
But how recept you think Aaron Rodgers would be to that?
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
I mean, looking one out the other like you wouldn't
he wouldn't do it? And the grind that's my exact point.
I wouldn't. It wouldn't. It wouldn't have work. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
The bottom line is, I don't care what kind of
quarterback you are, with kind of talent you have, you
need help. You need receivers, you need running backs, you
need an offensive line, you need a good coordinator, a
good game plan. There's a lot of different factors to
be a successful.
Speaker 3 (01:23:24):
It's it's a team. It's a team efforts, a team game,
and like one of the things that we do on
our side is we talk so much about the quarterbacks
that we act as if they do it by themselves.
But nah, the teams the quarterbacks that win titles are
the ones who typically are on the best teams, meaning
there are other parts of the team that are able
to function and excel to allow the quarterback to win
(01:23:46):
and maybe not have to work asr to pull it off.
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
All right, NBA, Obviously the draft is coming up on
a Thursday, and all eyes are on one big young
guy from France, Mamba, and Yanna is do we have
that right?
Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Oh, Victor.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Victor, by the way, he said he's going to play
summer basketball. I want to see this guy play.
Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
You want to see playing summer league because when.
Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
When I look at this guy physically, I'm reminded of
Ralph Sampson. Ralph Sampson was seven to four, he had
guard skills. I remember, he wasn't the most physical player.
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
No, no, he wants to stay away from that contact.
Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Right, I mean he And I'm looking at this kid,
and I mean he is skinny as a real which
is understandable. He's very young, and.
Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
I remember it fill out some yeah, and people won't
remember rap Sampson, but Ralph Sampson was at UVA doing
my former year. I was like ten eleven or twelve.
In fact, my dog, my dog Terry rest rest in Power,
was named after Terry Holland. And the reason why is
because Carolina used to always whoop Virginia, so we always
(01:24:55):
wanted to kick the dog. So that's that's that's.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
Why Terry the Virginia coach passed away.
Speaker 7 (01:25:01):
By the way.
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
Yeah, so Ralph Sampson when they went to four, I
think we went three final fours in raph Sampson.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Was no, they only went how about this and they.
Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
Go to three? I thought they went to three from
they didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Go to final fours, they went to one. In fact,
our buddy Olden Polonies took over as the center at
Virginia the year after Ralph Sampson, and they went to
the final four in nineteen eighty four. That was the
year that your North Carolina team with Michael Jordan, Kenny
Smith probably the best ever North Carolina team, Brad Dougherty
(01:25:31):
at center. They got upset to by Indiana and then
Indiana lost to Virginia in the Elite eight. But yeah,
Ralph Sampson in his four years of Virginia. They only
made it to one final four. I remember they lost
and they got lost to North Carolina in the Semis
in eighty one. Yeah, he's a good player. So if
he if he's like he's not an all time legend.
(01:25:51):
In other words, Sampson was one of the great college
players of all time. He had an abbreviated NBA career,
had some moments.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
With the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
You know, he came a lot on the Twenty Hours.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
I think the tip, the tip.
Speaker 2 (01:26:02):
Yeah against the Lakers. Yeah, in eighty six, that got
him to the NBA Finals. But I just I love
I love the hype. I get excited. You know when
suddenly you see we have a generational town.
Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
I think you think everyone is kind of blowing him
up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
Well, they are blowing him up, and they're talking about
he's the best prospect since Lebron. He's to come out
in the draft and he's gonna have Pop as his coach.
Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
You know what's funny, And I love Pop doesn't win
like he used to win and when he had Tim
Duncan and all those great players.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
Well the question is, I you know, when I think
back to Pop and and his heyday to me, forget
Tim Duncan and David Robinson. I mean, first of all,
David Robinson was already there when he took over, and
then you know they get Duncan and these already made
superstars right from day one, Tony Parker, Monogenobli and most
(01:27:00):
press to me was Kawhi Leonard. When Kawhi Leonard came
out of San Diego State, you know, he was this
great athlete, some questions about his offensive skills, and he
goes to San Antonio and remember early in his career,
it wasn't much of a scorer. He was like almost
a role player, play some defense, everything else. But every
single year he added more to his game. Next thing
(01:27:23):
you look up, he's Defensive Player of the Year, First
Team All NBA Finals, MVP and that A lot of
that had to do with Pop. But you know, you
have to wonder at this point of his life. You know,
Pop's getting on in ears here, how many years does
he have to develop this young guy?
Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
You know, I think you get a little rejuvenated when
you have players very similar to maybe Andy Reid in
Kansas City where seeming like, oh you know what he
may be near in the end, But he's like, I
got Pat Mahmes, why would I leave now when the
fun is just about the start? Pop maybe feel the
same way what I want to see from Pop and
everyone appreciates his greatness as a coach. But now that
(01:28:02):
you have a generational talent as has been described, can
he get this team back up to the conversation as
an elite France as an elite squad again, that's the
challenge because I don't think he had this kind of
challenge ahead of him when it was the Robinson Duncan era,
because you already had guys kind of in place. But
(01:28:24):
this one he's having to kind of do it from scratch.
It's a little different.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
Dominant big man have had that kind of impact in
the NBA. Certainly Kareem did with a second of your
expansion team in Milwaukee Bucks. A year later they win
the NBA championship. Think of Bill Walton and he goes
to the Portland Trailblazers. Within three years there are NBA champions.
So it's the one position if you have a dominant
big man that it can turn your fortune around immediately
(01:28:49):
in a league where you only have five guys on
the court. So yeah, one, Banyama is one of those
kids that I just he's listed at seven to two.
I hear he's more closer to seven to four anyways,
two ten.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
That's the light, skinny slender.
Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
His legs are just toothpecks.
Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
Skinniness can be heard from his own block.
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
You know what he needs. He needs the diet of
Zion Williamson. Isn't it laughable? The New Orleans is sort
of throwing it out there that I mean that Zion
is for the taking. Who the hell is going to
take Zion Williamson, who, by the way, he just missed
the entire last season. He's actually missed more games than
(01:29:33):
he has played during the course of his NBA career.
You know, would you roll the dice and give up
a boatload for Zion Williamson.
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
I rolled the dice because I think I need to
get him out of New Orleans. I need to put
him in the right environment. If you puton Williamson in
the right environment, Williamson can be more than the superstar
that we've already seen. Because remember his biggest issues have
been the injury, injuries and some of the elms.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Why does he have injuries? Body is creating it.
Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
So you know we need to do. We need to
get him down to Miami. We need to get him
on that plan where we're working out all the time.
We get his body fat every two weeks, we make
him take pictures and get on the scale and all that.
We're gonna curb some of those activities, those vignets and
stuff that he's been snacking on down there in Nola.
We're gonna get rid of that. We're gonna. Now what
we can't do is we we can't impact his night life.
But Zion Williamson will be a new dad, and so
(01:30:23):
maybe with the new dad comes a little maturity and
some of that other stuff after we get through some
of the stuff surrounding dad. But yeah, so yeah, I wouldn't.
I wouldn't pour dirt on him when he plays I
mean the NBA when he was playing, but then he
stopped playing, he stopped playing. Well, I mean, we gotta,
(01:30:44):
we gotta, we gotta get him right. I mean, look,
you know that you know that Zion, if Zion Williamson
was a football player and the late Al Davis was alive,
yes he would be in the Silver and Black.
Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
Yes. Ah, we have absolutely because he had talent, yes,
all love. Talent didn't always pan for him most of
the early on.
Speaker 3 (01:31:05):
It did, late it did not, but he would he
would say, oh, he just needs he just needs the
right environment to write coach.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
All right, So you would take a chance, you give
up all first, I mean he still a very young player. Yeah,
give up those picks in North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (01:31:18):
Let me look, I like winning. I would I would
give up. I would give up those picks.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
Uh. Coming up on the other side, we're going to
catch up on the little NFL news. Our Fox Sports
Radio NFL insider Adam Kaplan will join us. Coming up
next Steve Harman and Bucky Brooks Here Fox Sports Saturday.
Once again, we are coming you live from the tai
Iraq dot Com studios. All right, all quiet on the
NFL front never which is why we are always privileged
(01:31:46):
to bring on this gentleman every single Saturday. Here, our
Fox Sports Radio NFL insider Adam Kaplan is joining us
once again. Adam, how you doing today?
Speaker 8 (01:31:57):
I'm good. Yeah, we finally finished the off. See some
programs that are all done by Thursday. Speaking some coaches
they had to work. A couple guys actually work today
and that's it. They're off for four and a half
weeks and the players come in at the end of
July and it's look, it's you're right, it's a quiet time.
But we've got some key free agents who are been released,
(01:32:18):
guys who quite frankly, could probably help some teams get
to the playoffs. But we'll see what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:32:24):
I want to ask about the Chiefs right now. A
year ago this time, I was one of the doubters.
I think you were as well. It was the Tyreek
Hill defection, saying this is going to have a major
impact because yeah, you got Kelsey and you got Hill,
pick your poison. Now you get rid of them, it's
going to make a team far easier to defend. And
that just wasn't the case obviously, as they won themselves
(01:32:45):
another Super Bowl. Would this second Super Bowl win three
Super Bowl appearances in the last four years, have the Chiefs,
in your opinion, really distanced themselves from the rest of
this league.
Speaker 8 (01:32:58):
It's a good question because when when you look at it,
when when New England was going through, you're their so
called dynasty. You kind of knew you had Belichick, you
had Brady. They just they seem to win every big game.
Speaker 7 (01:33:12):
But now the Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (01:33:13):
Now, the Chiefs aren't at where the New England was
with six titles, but they're getting there because they're going
to have this quarterback for minimum of ten more years.
Mahomes complain to his forties if he wants Andy Reid
Well coach and toy De Sides to retire. Where the
coaches to his in the seventies remains to be seen,
but not that. Cincinnai's not far away and Buffalo is
(01:33:33):
not too far away. But Kansas Cy's in class of
their own because the quarterback they head coach. And I
think last year was probably Andy's best job because Steve
you talked about it.
Speaker 7 (01:33:42):
They had a manufacturer yardage, a lot.
Speaker 8 (01:33:44):
Of scheme, more scheme, more design to get guys open
because without Tyra Hill, you're not You're not going to
get the coverage is the same, and just a unbelievable
job by any raid. And we should obviously mention Travis
Kelce at thirty three years old. That's another thing. You've
got your quarterbacks gonna be a Hall of famer and
your tight end it's going to be Hall of famer.
That certainly helps.
Speaker 3 (01:34:04):
Yeah, It certainly helps when you have a Hall of
Fame caliber quarterback. And so there's a lot of excitement
in New York over Aaron Rodgers, and it doesn't appear
that Robert Sala and staff are trying to temper those expectations.
When they take the field at the end of July.
What do you expect to see from the Jets.
Speaker 8 (01:34:21):
It's all be with them, probably twice. I know they
have a joint practice. I believe they're gonna have a
joint practice. But so just talking to them and Buck,
I think you know this of working for teams, there's
something about having a Hall of Fame type player, particularly
when he's your quarterback, having them around that just and
this is why Joe Douglas brought him in. It I'm
(01:34:42):
told with Douglas's idea to bring Rogers in, it wasn't
and the owner was obviously on board. But I know
some people were pointing to the owner came up with
the idea, It was not. It was Joe Douglas, a
GM's idea. So they've got their quarterback. They know how
they they felt last year if Zach Wilson wanted to
played average football, they would have been a playoff team,
but obviously he got bench is awful. So they've got
this really good defense. They're super loaded out wide receiver.
(01:35:05):
They've kind of reshaped their offensive line a little bit
at center, in particular Brisall. I'm told their second year
running back, who was great, probably would have been the
offensive rookie the year he towards ACL. He's doing really well.
It was an isolated ACL tear. He'll be ready for
training camp. So Bucky, I don't wanna say sky's a limit,
but because you got to deal with Kansas City and
(01:35:26):
Buffalo that division, they're gonna push Buffalo. I mean, I
know they had a losing record last year, but we
all know if the quarterback's healthy Aaron Rodgers, and he is,
there's no reason why they can't push seriously for the
division and make them hay in the AFC, which I
expect them to do.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
I know d Hop was out and about with the
Patriots also the Titans last week. We've been told from him.
I guess that he's in no hurry to make a decision,
and he buzz about these visits teams. Interesting in d
Hop right now?
Speaker 8 (01:35:56):
Yeah, So Steve, here's what's going to happen. And I've
been telling Pep this like it's it's not for lack
of interest. He's just not getting the money that he wants.
He's not getting the nineteen and a half million in
cash that he was owed by the Cardinals. The number
I've pegged it is between ten and twelve million in cash.
I think that's realistic. At this point of his career.
(01:36:17):
The Patriots have invested a lot of money and their
receivers and Devonte Parker, Jujus Smith, Schuster, Kendrick.
Speaker 7 (01:36:24):
Bourne all making a lot of money. But this guy's
a step ahead.
Speaker 8 (01:36:27):
And Bill Belichick historically when he you know, Bill has
personal control. When he really likes the player, with the
Rainy Moss, Chad Johnson and others over the years, he
goes and gets them. And they have not drafted well
over the years at receiver, but they've They've done well
fairly well with veteran receivers. And that's why he's doing
this now. As far as other teams, Ken City's not
looking to pay, Bill's are not looking to pay bills.
(01:36:48):
Bills are a way bigger need than the Chiefs do.
Speaker 7 (01:36:50):
Bill's. By the way, the Stephan Dick situation, which was
bizarre in and of itself.
Speaker 8 (01:36:55):
You know, I'm sure you guys are aware of it
that that was where he let He didn't show up
to Tuesday's practice. He was early in the morning, but
even he went home and then he was there on Wednesday.
But so overall, guys, it's to me, I don't see
Tennessee being a factor. Tennessee would have to significantly overpay
to get him where if you go. If he wants
to win New England, they'll win. They'll be better with him.
(01:37:17):
But they're not.
Speaker 7 (01:37:17):
They're not. They're not a championship team that we all
know that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:20):
No, so you talked about one vet in jan Andrew Hopkins.
How about to Havin Cook? What are you hearing about him?
Speaker 7 (01:37:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:37:26):
So so with Cook, he's another guy's not getting what
he wants. He's in a situation where most of these
teams have filled out their dance card at running back
except for the Dolphins. The Dolphins have invested nine million
already in the running back position. They're not looking to
pay a lot. The dollar amount I'm gonna I believe
it'll wind up getting will be between five and six
(01:37:47):
million in cash per season. Miles Sanders, who signed with
the Panthers, got the best free agent deal at six
point twenty five million. That would be the absolute tops
that he can get. And he's twenty eight, which he
turns next month coming off shoulder surge. The cool thing
about his situation is people talk about his injury history.
He's only played one full season. It was last season
(01:38:07):
with the Vikings despite that shoulder injury and he had
f surgery.
Speaker 2 (01:38:10):
Now, you know, I worked for the Raiders, as you
know Adam yesterday, and being with the Raiders during the
eighties and having to imagine I still look back in
retrospect having many conversations with of all people, Ron Wolfe,
who had been with you know, al Davis basically plucked
him from nowhere. He was in military intelligence and he
(01:38:33):
had this incredible retention ability and this is why Al
Davis hired him into the organization in his early twenties.
And of course he ends up in the Hall of
Fame basically as the GM of the Packers. But I
remember talking to him because I used to love talking
to a guy like Ron Volvohbaal who are the best?
Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
And we got into the subject member of offensive lineman,
the Raiders had so many legends like Archelle and Ginopsa
and jem Otto he goes. Let me tell you something,
The best guy we ever had was Bob Brown. Bob
Brown just passed away today. He was started his career
with the Philadelphia Eagles, he played for the Rams and
(01:39:11):
then finished his career with the Raiders. Offensive tackle. Came
out of Nebraska, huge man. The best story about this, Adam,
was Deacon Jones, the legend was so notorious for his
head slap before they outlawed it that Bob Brown got
tired of this, you know, hand slapping against his helmet.
He actually put a screw that protruded out of his
(01:39:32):
helmet and Deacon slapped the side of his helmet and
went right through his hand. Deacon told me the story
and then showed me the scar like he wasn't making
this up, Like there was like this like a bullet
hole right in the middle of his hand.
Speaker 7 (01:39:45):
Where this guy is.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
I mean, I know you work, you know, doing a
lot of Eagles stuff and everything. Yeah, I mean this
is I don't know. I mean the thing about it
is sometimes and again this is old school stuff, Adam,
And we talk about today's athletes. They're bigger, stronger, faster
than everything else. And I'm sure they're always better. I mean,
I was amazed when I think about offensive linemen in
(01:40:08):
those days could not extend their arms. Think about that.
Can you imagine trying to block somebody like a Deacon Jones,
where you got to keep your hands up against your chest.
Sometimes I just blows my mind when I think about
guys of that era.
Speaker 8 (01:40:23):
Think about the stuff that players got away with. You
mentioned the head slab, Yeah, all sorts of the crazy
physical play.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Oh were you?
Speaker 7 (01:40:31):
Were you with the Raiders when Jack Tatum was playing, No,
he was a little before me.
Speaker 8 (01:40:34):
Yes, they called him the assassiny Den was as you know,
being a former Raider guy. No one played dirty or
football got away with more.
Speaker 7 (01:40:43):
Oh you.
Speaker 8 (01:40:43):
They were always the most penalized team. But they were
also that game that we would watch late. We would
get it here in Philly, we get the four four
o'clock game with Kurt Gowdy and they were just with
and then of course you were you there with Plunket
or you.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Were Oh yeah, I was absolutely there Plunket. You know.
The think about it was, Here's the thing, they were
always like the most penalized team in the league, but
they usually got their penalties when they wouldn't hurt the team.
You get those, you know, personal fouls when you're already
up by a couple of scores.
Speaker 7 (01:41:13):
Then then you want to set a tone, though they
wanted to set ite.
Speaker 2 (01:41:16):
Absolutely it was a different brand of football. But yeah,
I like to recognize some of those legends because a
guy like Ron Wolf says, that's that's the best guy
we had. That's worth technology.
Speaker 3 (01:41:27):
No, it is funny having played for Ron and those things.
I absolutely love hearing those stories. And so since you
brought up run, there's a lot of injuryu oyvisty in
Green Bay about Jordan Love, and I know everyone is
kind of tight lipped about his prospects up there. What
have you heard from the people that you've talked to
about just how he's progressing throughout OTAs in mini camps.
Speaker 8 (01:41:48):
So here's what I would do, Bucky with that, I
would go back to last year. So talking to a
team source with Love, they felt like the light one on.
Remember now he played in completely different offense in Nevada.
The Packers run an old school West Coast offense and
look the first two years. We're really just a learning experience.
And you had to remember when he was drafted of
(01:42:08):
the COVID year and they felt last year and twenty
twenty two was his sort of year to mature. And
that's probably why they'll never admit this, particularly the GM.
I think that's kind of why they wanted to move
on because they saw so much good from.
Speaker 7 (01:42:22):
Love and buy. You know, they have to make a
decisions on his contract. Now's the time.
Speaker 8 (01:42:27):
Now's the time to get Love in there and move
Rogers and look, is going to be a step back yet,
but it may maybe it's not that much of a
step back. And also let's not forget they're the only
team in the National Footballer to not have a veteran receiver.
They're all first and second year receivers. So now I
can grow with Watson, Dobbs, Jaden Reid who was a
second round pick this year, and the other young guys.
And also, by the way, the two tight ends were
(01:42:48):
both drafted this year.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
Well, there's no off season in the NFL. We know that.
Speaker 7 (01:42:52):
By the way.
Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
One of the quick note here, because Buck and I
were talking about this earlier college football, I mean, the
Pac twelves and trouble right now, Adam, they don't. They
don't have a media deal. There's all types of talks
about defection. The entire landscape of college football is a
precarious situation. I'm not saying an extinction, but there could
be a lot of shifting with the dominance of the
(01:43:14):
SEC and the Big Ten. They have provided a free
minor league for the NFL since the beginning of time.
If things get rough on the college football landscape, could
you see any intervention from the NFL.
Speaker 7 (01:43:29):
No, they won't get involved in that.
Speaker 8 (01:43:31):
What they need to do, and you know you've got
the USFL, the XFL and other these satellite leagues.
Speaker 7 (01:43:36):
They need to develop their players better.
Speaker 8 (01:43:37):
But you're right, that is really the farm system for
the National FOOTBA League's college football.
Speaker 7 (01:43:42):
That's what's always been and always will be.
Speaker 8 (01:43:44):
They also have the CFL on a much smaller level,
but no, I don't see them ever get involved in that.
It is the stories come out about the PAC twelve
or just it's crazy. Yeah I saw the San Diego
State story. Yeah, look, it's all about money. It's just
crazy to see these teams move out of conferences. But
it's never gonna stop man, it's all about the money.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
It's always about the money. Follow the money if you
want to know where the story's going next. Adam, we
appreciate it. Early. Happy Father's Day to all the dad's
out there. We've been talking about that. Everyone forgets Father's.
Speaker 3 (01:44:13):
Day, Adam.
Speaker 7 (01:44:14):
You know so oh hey, I shout to my father.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
Yes, absolutely, Adam, thanks so much. Always appreciate. We'll talk
to you next week. Adam Kaplan our NFL insider joining
us there from Fox Sports Radio. All right, let's find
out what is trending right now. We welcome back Moncey's
taking her dad out. Lazy Dog. Yes, happy hour. Yeah,
I'm gonna enjoy the day so.
Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
Much, well the evening because I'm gonna be hanging out
with you tomorrow for a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
Well, Sunday is our normal day.
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
It is day.
Speaker 6 (01:44:41):
It is our Yes, Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:44:42):
Wait, say, I keep looking up and I'm like, is
she here all the time?
Speaker 6 (01:44:46):
I am here all the time.
Speaker 4 (01:44:48):
I'm gonna just bring like a little cot or something,
and here I'm here all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
I love having you here, but I'm like, I know
you have other things going.
Speaker 6 (01:44:56):
I try to have other things going. I went to
the blank.
Speaker 4 (01:44:59):
Weaity two concerts last night and I saw Bou there?
Speaker 7 (01:45:02):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Who Bow? You stop classes right now? I knew that
Bow went to one two because I talked to Uh yeah,
So did you expect to see Moncey last night?
Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
Both?
Speaker 7 (01:45:16):
No, I did not.
Speaker 11 (01:45:16):
I was just looking on my Instagram stories and Monty
posted a picture and so I sent her a picture
from my seat and little yeah, and then.
Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
There was a beer and of course obviously what better seats?
Speaker 6 (01:45:29):
Maybe bo I will.
Speaker 4 (01:45:32):
We were very close to each other, That's why I
worked out.
Speaker 11 (01:45:34):
Yeah, and I I seat jumped. I bought better tickets
when I got in the venue.
Speaker 6 (01:45:39):
But oh nice, yeah, yeah, yeah. We were very close
to each other, and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
So I was like, did you know you share this
common admiration? No, no, no, no, no, you look at
Bow like in a completely different light. You just assume
he's mister Eagles and that's.
Speaker 6 (01:45:53):
It, right, No, no, no, But Bow and I bond
over other things.
Speaker 4 (01:45:56):
We have a Jimmy Butler shirt together that Alex is
also supposed to be a part of.
Speaker 6 (01:46:00):
We're supposed to be the Jimmy Butler Crew. But Alex
is too cool. He didn't buy the shirt, but we
told him.
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
About sports stuff. Alex. First of all, you talked about
a rare tree for us again. You know, Alex is
like here once every year, and all of a sudden,
it's like every month. His father's dad take care of
a lot of kids around here.
Speaker 7 (01:46:17):
Here you go.
Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
Yeah, so you were not at yesterday.
Speaker 7 (01:46:22):
I was not. Okay, I feel about paying for old
guys jamming out.
Speaker 6 (01:46:26):
But they were so good, right bo. So I was
surprised at how good they were.
Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
And at one point Travis Barker was like, they lifted
his whole part of the stage up just him, so
he was drumming on top of.
Speaker 6 (01:46:39):
Mark and Thomass.
Speaker 4 (01:46:41):
Is he still a Kardashian Yes, Actually at the end,
right at the end, I was very upset that I
didn't see Courtney. But then at the end she they
put her on the jumbo screen and she was holding
a sign that said, Travis, I'm pregnant.
Speaker 6 (01:46:52):
And so that's how we all found out together.
Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
I'm losing track of one of the kids. Are right, right, right?
Speaker 6 (01:46:58):
Too much going on.
Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
I'm sure he enjoyed that.
Speaker 6 (01:47:01):
Yes, she looked like she's been pregnant.
Speaker 4 (01:47:04):
This was her way of telling the world, you know,
I don't think it was his first time hearing about it.
Speaker 6 (01:47:08):
It looked like she was pregnant for a little.
Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
Bit, any part of his body, not tadden, No, no,
no no.
Speaker 6 (01:47:14):
I was like this point around his eye, even though
I think he does have one around his life.
Speaker 11 (01:47:18):
What's funny is I don't know if people know it,
but the sign is a reference to one of their
music videos.
Speaker 6 (01:47:24):
Alex.
Speaker 11 (01:47:24):
Yes, there's a music video where someone has a sign
that says Travis, I'm pregnant. So that's yes.
Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
And isn't it on the cover of the Mark Tom
and Travis Show, the one that's like the drawings.
Speaker 11 (01:47:33):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 6 (01:47:34):
Bo I thought I was crazy, but I was telling Alex.
Speaker 2 (01:47:36):
I was like, I think this is from Nala they
had all the time.
Speaker 6 (01:47:38):
Small world, small world. Not a small world though.
Speaker 4 (01:47:42):
For show hey Otani, he just became the home run
leader twenty three home run surpasses mister Pete Alonso.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:47:51):
It was four hundred and thirty seven feet. It's one
hundred and fifty career home runs now for mister shohe Otani.
Going into today's game, he was top five in RBI's
top ten in hits, top five in strikeouts is there
something he can't do.
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
I've said this to people when they try to compare
Otani to Babe Ruth. H do your babe Ruth did
not do this. No, I mean there was a brief
period where bab U was still barely pitching and it
had been converted to an outfielder. We will We've never
seen anything like Otani and unlikely to ever see anything
(01:48:29):
like him again.
Speaker 4 (01:48:30):
It's crazy, insane. So the Angels are beating the Royals.
Luckily it's not like three years ago. I feel like
we were always saying, show, hey, Otani did this, Mike
Trout did this, and the Angels loss. At least now
I can say. And the Angels are winning eight five
against the Royals. Phillies and the A's are tied at
win a piece. Bottom of the ninth inning. They are
playing in Oakland, Rangers holding on to their lead over
the Blue Jays four to two. They're about to start
(01:48:51):
the ninth inning. In Texas. The Mariners are still up
on the White Sox three to two. Bottom of the
eighth inning. The Reds are trying to win seven in
a row, and they they're beating the Astro six to three.
Speaker 6 (01:49:01):
Bottom of the eighth inning.
Speaker 4 (01:49:03):
The Braves have not looked back ever since Matt Olsen
hit that grand Slam in the first inning. They're all
over the Rockies. Ten to two is the score top
of the ninth inning. In Atlanta, the Cardinals are trying
to snap their six game losing streak and they're currently
beating the Mets.
Speaker 6 (01:49:18):
In New York. Four to three is the score top
of the ninth inning.
Speaker 4 (01:49:22):
And the Marlins, we've been talking about Luis Araes. He
is not batting four hundred right now. He's gone zero
for three in this game, so he is batting three
eighty six. But the Marlins are beating the Nationals five too.
They're about to start the bottom of the ninth inning
in Washington, and the leaders have they started officially, No,
not yet. Ricky Fowler, No, no, not yet, but they're
(01:49:43):
getting close. Ricky Fowler, who is at the top of
the leader board at the US Open ten under par,
Wyndham Clark one stroke back, Xander Schafflee and Rrie McElroy
two strokes back.
Speaker 6 (01:49:52):
They should be teen off literally any minute.
Speaker 2 (01:49:55):
Right now, I mean right now on these coast. It's
six thirty eight in the evening. Yes, and the leaders
in the third round of the US Open have not
even teed off yet.
Speaker 6 (01:50:05):
No, I don't I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
I don't understand Saturday night, Saturday night and all Saturday
night to watch the US Open.
Speaker 6 (01:50:13):
Well, listen, it's a challenge.
Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
I am up for.
Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
I am just I am just blowed away by the
dee dies that. All right, Well, Montsey, have a great
Father's Day.
Speaker 4 (01:50:22):
I'll see you tomorrow, doctor, mister doctor, right, doctor, all
of them, they're all yours.
Speaker 6 (01:50:30):
Have your Father's Day.
Speaker 2 (01:50:32):
There he goes, thank you, min seen. Great job. As always,
once again, we're coming to live from the ti iraq
dot com studios. All right, so I'm going to describe
the chief super Bowl ring six and thirteen diamonds. So
the logo has sixteen rubies. That represents how many division
titles they've won. Fifty diamonds on the Arrowhead portion of
(01:50:55):
the logo that represents the fiftieth anniversary of Arrowhead Stadium.
You got the three Lombardi trophies. Of course, they've won
three Super Bowls, the last two recently course Super Bowl
four sixteen bagete diamonds at the base representing sixteen players
who scored a touchdown during the twenty twenty two regular season. Really,
let's see here there's a red backdrop with nineteen rubies
(01:51:18):
and thirty eight diamonds the thirty eight points they scored
in the Super Bowl. Let's see fifty four diamonds along
the top in terms of total points the Chiefs had
to overcome in their two most recent Super Bowl Championship runs.
There's a removable top of the ring that you can
turn into a pennant, look like arrowhead, and then the
(01:51:41):
name in gold with rows of thirteen diamonds. What I mean,
I've seen when I again, when I joined the Raiders,
they had just won their third Super Bowl, Super Bowl eighteen,
blowing out the Redskins as they were then known. And
you know, it was a nice ring, had three diamonds
on it because the Raiders have won three Super Bowls.
Obviously personalized, but it was like a legit ring, like
(01:52:04):
you could actually wear the ring. This is not a
ring you would wear, na I mean, this is you can't.
It's gigantic, like you can't. It looks ridiculous. Plus I wouldn't.
I mean, I don't know what the value. There's hundreds
of thousands.
Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
Of insurance on insurance insurance policy on.
Speaker 2 (01:52:23):
All right, So if you had won a super Bowl,
would you wear your super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
You don't wear it daily? You just kind of breaking
up for special occasions.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
But is it too much? I mean, I mean, at
what point do we have to sort of taper down
what we're doing with these super Bowls?
Speaker 3 (01:52:39):
So I would say I like them chunky and whatever,
like you don't even know the little championship ring that
we went out here in high school. I'll bring a
pitchion that you see in films this book, like that
as much as I could under a high school budget.
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
Yet so we went hold on a second area. So
I remember, I'm anxious to find out from you because
obviously this affects you far more than me. I don't
wear anything. I don't wear to watch I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:53:06):
I don't either, Like we're just saying I don't, I'm not,
but like no, But one thing I learned from Mac Brown,
who learned from Barry Swiss, is like, when it's ring time,
I can kingdom, Well, could it be like we want
to we want to make it.
Speaker 7 (01:53:18):
We want to make it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:20):
Uh, bolt and bodacious are the terms that I like.
Speaker 2 (01:53:23):
To use Well, I heard earlier we were I heard
Jonas talking about, well, maybe a watch? What you want
to hold on a second, Hey, Alex, can you turn
on Moncey's mike for a second here, because I heard
Monsey talking about this earlier. Yes, so you like the
idea of a watch?
Speaker 6 (01:53:40):
Why don't you bling out a watch?
Speaker 7 (01:53:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:53:43):
Watch? What are we doing? We're doing in addition to
the ring?
Speaker 4 (01:53:45):
No, in addition, in addition too, Jonas Knox doesn't like
the big bulky ring because he's like, what am I
going to do with that?
Speaker 6 (01:53:52):
That's what he was going with.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
No, I don't know, but like, but like also like
you have to understand context, Like Jonas isn't a swaggy guy.
Like we don't expect Jonas to like go and really
be dripped out, and so it is. It's kind of
like a tone setter. Like you're not wearing it all
the time, You're only wearing it for special What about
like a necklace or a pennon or something. I mean,
you can do that, like normally the ladies around the
(01:54:14):
team will. But I'm gonna be honest with you. When
you opt for the pen, you're shorted because when you
look at all the gold and all the diamonds and
all that. You can't replicate that independent.
Speaker 6 (01:54:25):
You just get the top totally.
Speaker 4 (01:54:27):
But with that, what you just said that you're only
going to bring out this ring on a special occasion, right,
if it's a watch, you could wear it more often
and it could still be as blinky and flashy, but
it won't be bulky.
Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
You know what I have in my head, I have
in my head. I have in my head like a
Mickey mouse Wise. No, no, no, no, a fancy Mickey
mouse Wise.
Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
So I would, but you know, like think of a
nice put it all the bling in it and all
the special gold, diamonds and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
Actually you could put more on a wash on a ring.
Speaker 6 (01:54:56):
And still wear it maybe on a more regular basis.
Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
We don't. I mean, like that's that's that's fine. I'm known.
Was it David Deal? He took his super Bowl ring
and he made cufflinks.
Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
Oh that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
So we had like the things on there whatever like that.
That's fine. But what if like French collars and cufflinks
go out of style?
Speaker 4 (01:55:15):
Now what I would wear proudly a bulky, obnoxious World
Championship ring.
Speaker 6 (01:55:22):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:55:22):
I mean that's the whole point.
Speaker 4 (01:55:23):
I wear it every day. What we talk about, I'm
going to a liquor store, mirin't it?
Speaker 6 (01:55:27):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:55:28):
What's this. We had this guy with the Raiders that
he was named Run Run Joanes Run. He was like, yeah,
he was actually a roller derby guy that somehow was
a Raiders fan. They brought him into the organization. He
was still around, but they gave him rings. Well I
don't know if it was diamonds or zirconium, but he
would when we would go out on the town on
the road, he'd have all three of them. All are
(01:55:48):
you showing him off.
Speaker 7 (01:55:49):
To the ladies?
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Hey? Hey, it was working for a.
Speaker 3 (01:55:53):
Draw like that. Yeah, Like Fri said, like, you know,
you put it out there, you let us see it
hits the light right, all those diamonds my time here.
Speaker 7 (01:56:01):
Watch doesn't do that.
Speaker 3 (01:56:02):
The watch doesn't do that.
Speaker 6 (01:56:03):
It will do that. If you put the right diamonds
on it. That ring's gonna dislocate your finger, like in
a hot second.
Speaker 3 (01:56:10):
You put a ring guard on it off.
Speaker 2 (01:56:12):
A lot of guys never wear these rings. They put him,
you know, in a box and a safety Debayasa box.
That's the end of it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:18):
Yeah, only like you only break it out every now
and then. You saw Tom Brady has with seven of them,
like you've seen the pitches when he does, he only
breaks him out when it's time to collect another one.
Speaker 6 (01:56:26):
Wow, But it's time to collect another one.

Speaker 2 (01:57:30):
So very good. You can call me daddy if you
want to.
Speaker 7 (01:57:34):
That's a drop.
Speaker 2 (01:57:35):
Thank you, Thank you very much, everyone does. Of course.
I was Sam was here a little bit earlier. Bo our,
brilliant producer who had to shift to his shifts today
after How late were you out last night with Blink
one eighty two? I got home about one o'clock.
Speaker 3 (01:57:50):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 11 (01:57:51):
Yeah, it's mostly downtown La traffic, you know that time.
Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
So normally your Saturday shift would have started.

Speaker 2 (01:58:19):
You set your own pace and we like that.
Speaker 7 (01:58:21):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
It's a it's a show of individuals. Uh. By the way,
uh again talking a little bit about the Denver Nuggets.
What did you make of that crack about Malone now
being the Lakers daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:58:36):
I mean, look to the when you win, you can
say whatever it is that you want to say.
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
Why why are they even talking about the Lakers at
a Denver Nuggets celebration.
Speaker 3 (01:58:45):
Well, they're talking about him because they'd get a chance
to fully enjoy their win in the Western Conference Finals because,
as you know, Lebron James decided to hijack the post
game presser by dropping the retirement hints, and so all
of that covers the next day was about Lebron and
the Lakers, not about celebrating the Nuggets making it to
(01:59:07):
their first finals.
Speaker 2 (01:59:08):
Speaking of the Lakers, I'm looking ahead. They have an
actual draft pick. But I said this the other day.
I was actually on a friends radio show late late
last night talking about the Lakers offseason. I said, you know,
all this stuff about Chris Paul and James Harden and
Zach Lavie, that is not what this team needs. What
(01:59:28):
they need is Biggs in the middle. Yeah, Denver's the
bar one of the main reasons that the Nuggets are
where they are. Mouth, We'll save it for another day.
Ladies and gentlemen, we run out of time, but don't
go anywhere. Much more coming up this it's Fox Sports Radio.
You can call me Daddy.
