Speaker 3 (00:25):
He may need help wherever he's headed. But uh, Damian
Lillard finally finally officially running from the grind. But before
we get into that, let me introduce my co host,
Vernon Husky, the Big Vanilla Funny VJ.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
How are you today? I'm doing outstanding? Playing?
Speaker 5 (00:40):
What up?
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Yes, sir, I'm doing great man. I had a great weeat.
Do you know what I did yesterday?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
You were on the UH Couple with Chris Bussar. Yeah,
but before that, I don't know. Then I took my
son to chuck e cheese.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
How did that go? Outstanding? It's so cool. My cheese
was hot.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
It's so cool to watch him want to play all
the games but really sucking all of them, like he
wants to play all of them.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
But he's not good at anyt He's too young.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
He don't get it. He don't understand yet. But that
was a really cool early day thing before I came
into the couple of Christmas. But yeah, man, I was
a Chunky Cheese and it just brought back so many memories.
I don't know if you grew up going to Chucky Cheese,
but when I grew up, like having a birthday party there.
He was the manest school on Monday if you had
the Chucky Cheese birthday party. But prices ain't the save
no more. I've been to Chucky Cheese as a child,
(01:26):
as a child, as a child, did.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
They have tickets when you went?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Yeah, they don't have him anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Everything's on a card now, so you can't stand there
and flaws and let your tickets just run on the
floor and hang out, you know what I'm saying, so
everybody can see how much you win it. They don't
do that no more. I don't like that very much.
What the tickets hanging out? No, you should be able
to flex with your tickets exactly. Yeah, don't you know
how many tickets that kids got thirty thousand, Hall rolled
up on the floor.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah, he's gonna get the big you know, the nerf gun.
You know what I'm saying. I'm over here the boom box.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
I'm getting the bouncy ball and the stretch stuff that
sticks to the wall.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Of the glow ring.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
If you got four hundred tickets, right, you think you
did something for hunder tickets. You go over there and
all you can get is a glow ring? Or was
it the fake tattoo back in the day. So so
he didn't show any just natural ability at anything.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Well, the basketball one he did. But I cheated.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I held I held him up and stood him up
on the platform so he was closer and he and
then he.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Started making him. Man.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, cheated. I cheated, cheated for my son. But I'm great, man.
I had a great weekend. I wait, great week and
Chucky Cheese was dope yesterday.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
My son. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you. I
appreciate that many guy in the moments. One day you'll
love him. Yeah, right now, I don't talk about Damian
Lillard requested the trade out of Portland.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It's been news we've been waiting for for the last.
I don't know at four or five years at this point,
you know what I'm saying. It's like we're waiting for
what is it the chronic to the chronic Dame to
request the trade for painting for the new Grand theft
all though exactly so.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
We ended up seeing it now and it looks like
the Miami Heat are the leaders in the clubhouse for
Damian Lillard. And the reporting has been as such as Chris,
you know what's plugged in? Because hey, you know, full disclosure.
He was the one saying every other you know, we're.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Waiting for news, We're waiting for news. Well, we finally
got news.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And it says that the Portland trul Blazers are willing
to work with Damian Lillard trying to get into the
right the right place for the right price, and that
place seems to be Miami, I think, and I think
that would be the movie that Miami has to make
if they want to continue to be where they've been
the last three out of the four feats, the three
(03:29):
out of the last four seasons, which is in the
conference finals.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, I'm so interested in this and I'm glad it's
finally happening. But now, okay, let's start talking about who's
gotta go. We know he wants to play with Bam, right,
so Bam can't be in the deal. But if you're Portland,
are you just are you? Are you handcuffed right now
to take in just kind of anything Tyler Hero?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
I don't care if you can be Tyler Hero.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
They lost gave Vincent to the Lakers, so you can't
even do any type of side and trade and put
him in on the deal. What else are you giving
up for Dame? And if you're Portland, what are you
taking back? Bam has got to be in this deal.
But Dame has made it clear exactly. Dame's made it
clear and then Bam that they want to play with
each other. So if you're Portland, did you blow this
by waiting this long to move him? Because the deal
(04:12):
they're gonna get, man, is gonna be garbage.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
It's not gonna be a deal that you go.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Okay, that's okay, value back for Dame Lillard.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
When you look around at some of the other deals,
I don't know how you say it's gonna be dark
garbage when like you know, again, like they Chris Paul
and salary dumps, Like you know what I'm saying, Like,
that's the type of moves that are happening in the
league right now. Look at what the Sons had to
give up to get Bradley Beal, Like, people look at that.
I think it's gonna be something along the line. You know,
they'll give out picks, They'll give out you know, one
of these undrafted players.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
A few of these undrafted players. I know a lot
of these guys have.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Already moved, Like Max Struz would have been a good
signing trade option. He's going to Cleveland. But I mean,
at the end of the day, the point is the
Blazers are gonna work with Damian Lillard, so then they're
gonna get the trade that essentially the players are gonna
be the ones that he wants to play with.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
They're not gonna to do it otherwise.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, let me ask you, is do you think that
there's any chance that Portland kind of balks at this
and say, Okay, we're not giving you away for garbage.
We're not giving you away for nothing. We're not giving
you away for you know, or if you don't like it,
don't play.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
You can sit.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
This is the greatest blazer of all time. Like, this
is the greatest blazer of all time. Overwhelm, Yes, this
is the championship. Is when you look at the history,
like from the run that Damian Lilland has had. All right,
I'll say this the greatest blazer in the last thirty
forty years. All Right, there you go, in my opinion,
the greatest one of all time. But I don't hear it.
(05:34):
I don't really truly care about the hierarchy of the
best Portland trail blazers out there. However, when you are
a small town market like that, you cannot alienate your
your historical star. You can't do it. I'm from New Orleans.
I am the king of the small market. Archie Manning
is the President of New Orleans. You can't icy you can't.
(05:56):
You're not doing that. Damian Lillard never is buying an
in Portland for the rest of his life. Right, don't
make it ugly, don't make it terrible.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
And on the backside, Damien, don't necessarily accept anything that's
just gonna leave Portland high and dry. You said you
wanted to.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Win here all this time for the fans, for this
and that well, all right, well it's not gonna work
out in that way. That doesn't mean you gotta rob
the bank on the way out of the door. I
think you'll end up getting something like at least two
or three rotational players, some picks.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Portland will be fine.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
His reality situation is they weren't winning with them, They're
not gonna win without them. So just take the moment here.
A guy who's the first team is the first first
team All NBA guy that you've had since Brandon Roy,
like in the last twenty years, thirty.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Years, Rod just Man. Just let him ride off into
this sunset. Take out his big backpage ad and whatever
newspaper is is in Portland, take out a billboard over
the over the arena, thanks for the memories. Do all
of that and wash your hands of it. You don't
want it. This to be like an Anthony Davis.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
That's all folks scenario as he's leaving the Elegans And
just to be clear, Anthony Davis and at nearly not
half the legacy that Damie little more Portland.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Of course, I agree with you on don't make it ugly,
But if I'm Portland, I still as a front office
to have to remember, I'm running this like a business,
and I'm running this for the future. You got school Anderson,
you got some young nice pieces there, and Chauncey Billis
I think will be a good head coach. That's gonna
take some time. But I just don't think you just
take back, you know, Penny's expiring contract. Probably Kyle Lowry's
(07:30):
going to be in on this deal and they'll move
him at thirty seven years old. But I just, man,
it feels like to me, if they'd have moved them
a year ago, or if they'd have moved them all,
you know, maybe two years ago, you definitely would have
got a much better deal and probably been be in
a much better place today had you done it then.
(07:50):
And I think the front office is kind of they
were kind of being betting against themselves the entire time,
and now that it's out.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
There their star.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
They were betting on Damian lit on their ability to
make moves around the edges, and I think they were
betting on that moment up until now, Like I really
do you look at them re signing Jeremy Grant for
the amount of money that they resigned it it's a
hefty number, you know, I think they They probably went
to Dame and was like.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yo, look we got scooped.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
He would have been the number one overall picking other
drafts like you know we got you know we're gonna
brasign you guys. And I think it just ultimately got
to a moment of this is not enough, This is
not enough for me.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Do you think this move happens fast? We gotta tell.
I got a text message from Bow on the way
in well both things.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
He's getting traded, he said, I got a feeling he's
gonna be traded during our show today. You think it
happens that fast or just take some time through the
opening week of July, which is normally the hot week
of free agency.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
No, I don't know. I think that it happens in
relatively shorter I'd say, for example, James Harden, I expect
to take double to triple the amount of time Errol Moury,
we know that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
I expect that to take double to triple the amount
of time that it would take for Damien Little to move,
because realistically speaking, all of these potential Damian Lillard trades,
I mean, hell, if we've been outlining on the radio
and TV for the last twenty days. The Trailblazers have
been doing it for the last forty ath minimum, right,
you know what I'm saying. So all the framework now
(09:15):
it's like get goes from the number three pick to
now it's like, oh, now it's scoot in terms of
the move, right, you know now that those picture actualized
now in terms of instead of just being you know,
arbitrary number four, number five in the draft, now actually
it's an actual player in person.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
But yeah, I think these moves, these trades have been
at least not agreed to obviously, but argued about, debated,
negotiate and talked about.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Them stuff exactly. They do stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
So let's this is this move's happening. So I guess
we switched to the heat and we figure out, Okay,
where does Dame Lillard going to the Heat place them?
You and I were talking about it maybe about three
weeks ago when we were on Jimmy Butler's case, and
I thought about the Dame thing. We mentioned that day
and said, well, if they ever get Dame like the
rumors are, this isn't Jimmy Butler's team anymore.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Dyke he's not the one. Dame Lillard would be the one.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Do you put them right up there in contention in
the East day lane, dead Land Dame Lillard and they're
right there with Boston and the Bucks. I do, I do,
and I think I mean realist. I mean, we gotta
remember they just made this Eastern Conference run. And again,
I know they had a bad regular season, but three
out of the last four Eastern Conference finals.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
I've been to Miami exactly.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
So, like when you're sitting there and you're thinking about it,
like which one is the blip?
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Maybe this regular season?
Speaker 3 (10:30):
You look at the way that they said, all right,
we have all these undrafted players. I really love the
moves that they've made and some of the lack of
moves that they've made, like the idea letting gave Vincent
move on and good, good for you, you got paid.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
But like, he's not. You know what I'm saying, He's not.
We saw it. He saw it. He got paid off
the Eastern Conference finals. That's he's praying his ankle and
he was just the same. He's playing through injury.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
So I'm not trying to chastise him or anything of
that nature, but we saw at the the end of
games for Miami, it was Jimmy or Bust, and reality
was Jimmy didn't have all He doesn't have the bag.
Offensively that that's really where you want to live, is
Jimmy or Bust? Right, Yeah, all of those running those
plays and all of that's good, but when it comes
(11:15):
down to crunch time, you need to have players who
can make big time shots in big time moments.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Damian Lillard has a history and track record of when
he is. When he is in big time moments, he performs. Yeah,
I like him in the top three.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
I do.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
I like him in the top three. Boston is still
just such an anomaly to me because I still stay
in hardcore on I just don't understand trading Marcus Smart.
I really don't, especially for poor Zingis. I just I'm
gonna question that until I'm proven wrong. But I think
right there with the Bucks. Also, if the Bucks are healthy,
I agree with you. Though they've been to three or
four last four Eastern Conference finals, they have the whole heat.
(11:52):
Coach of Eric Spots is still their coach, pat Riley.
It's still their their you know, their VP and GM
and running the show there and you know he's got
a great circle around him. So I think they're definitely
a top three team, and I'm just not sure if
Dan puts them over the top.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
I think it's still Tyler Hero might have put them
over the top last year.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
You gotta remember that that's twenty points in the regular
season that was on the bench. We talked about bad
the heat regular season was Tyler Herro at least.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Was average twenty during irregular You know what I'm saying.
He was their primary, he was the other guy. He
was the number two hurt in the first playoff game,
didn't he yet?
Speaker 6 (12:25):
Right?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Like first half?
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Like they essentially made that entire run without him. So
when you look at it, it's like, yeah, they just
need a couple more shot makers. And you're telling me,
I'm getting I mean, off the top of my head,
there are He's made fourth these average four to may
three pointers the season three times. The only other person
to do that more than that is Steph Curry with seven, right,
(12:48):
So we're talking to we're talking about a big time
shot maker.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Damian Lillard. Is that of course?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I don't look, I'm not knocking to move at all.
I just my head is now Okay, where are they
pecking order they're doing? Do they They could run to
the Eastern Conference finals again, and then once they get there,
like you said, you got a guy like Dame who
can actually put you over the top down to clutch.
I do think he definitely becomes the heats clutch guy.
Like he's the closer. He's the guy that you're running through.
And if he's got a kick it to somebody, then
(13:14):
you still got You still have Bam and you still
have Jimmy Butler, and they'll get other players and still
have other players there in other pieces. But I'm just
I'm looking at the Eastern Conference and I'm like, Okay,
top three squads gotta be Boston, Milwaukee in Miami, and
I would have put them there. I would still think
Milwaukee healthy is still the best team in the East
when everybody is when everybody suited up, especially with them
(13:36):
reading up Chris Middleton and keeping their court together. Got
to work on the Brook Lopez, make sure he doesn't
get out of there, and if they lose him, that
will definitely hurt them. But yeah, I like top three,
but I'm gonna hold a little reserve for whether I
think Dane puts them over the top for them to
win a championship.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
I'm further down on Milwaukee than I think a lot
of people are. Really. Yeah, after watching that first round
series last year, seeing how just you know.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I just you know, you didn't think sitting you on
us that one game and then just killed the moment.
The reality of the situation is you look at it,
and you just look across the league, especially when you
get to the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
You really got to have hoopers.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
You gotta have guys who gotta go out there and
make their own shots and and be able to figure
it out by themselves with six seconds left on the clock.
You gotta be able to have guys who don't need
players drawn up for them. Like you want to be
able to operate in that framework, of course, but like
you need somebody to go freelance to break things off
when things are going wrong. And I don't know if
(14:32):
Milwaukee has enough of that for me to say that
they can go to the championship at this point unless
be honest, of course, is doing what he did on
that one run where he's going, you know, fifty points
a game.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
So for you, it's Boston Miami.
Speaker 2 (14:44):

to make a big pillar falling in NBA free agency.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Martin Vija, get to that next.
Speaker 7 (15:09):

millions of fans do the darker.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, play the tape. You don't know crap about fool,
I own this crap.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Whoa whoa, whoa whoa. That's the wrong tape, wrong tape,
just forget that.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Look.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Listen to the Paully.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Tony Fusco Show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Martin and VJ coming to you from the tiraq dot
com studios. Damian Lillard requested the trade. It's always interesting
VJ when you see these moments. He didn't demand the trade, right,
you know what I'm saying. He requested the trade.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
You know. So it's something about that, right, you see this,
you know, a parting of the ways verse fired verse,
you know, resigning, resigning, So it's all of this is
a mutual, mutual agreement to you know, move on.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
So there are the words matter here as my mom's
all the words matter as left. The freeman would say,
but that's from the wire.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
That no, it's a good show. I heard. I heard
it's a good show. All the pieces matter, all the piece.
Speaker 9 (16:45):
So no wire, and then struggling to get him on Sopranos.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Hey season three, guys, I said I'd finish it. I
just lost interest in it, but I will finish it,
just to say I completed it.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
You know what they say, you can lead the horse
to water, the horses in the back.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
So fuck ad Cuss right now, speaking of all the
pieces that matter, The question really is right here should
Portland do right?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
By Damian Lillard in the question post by our producer.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Bo And I believe absolutely, because this is one of
those moments where if you want to have like you
can be one of these teams like I should say this,
you can be a person like there ol Moury and
hang on and hang on and have Ben Simmons sitting
on your bench or not paying him not to come
and holding on this and making this a really ugly
(17:36):
and long drawn out scenario. Or you can send a
message and say hey, look if you come here and
you do well, we'll remember you forever. Look we got
space in the rafts. Okay, we got space in the rafts.
You come on over here and you come you'd be
a good soldier. We'll remember you well, Damien.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
And so I think that is really if I'm the Trailblazers,
that's the way I want to move about this, because
this is not about winning now, it's not even about
winning next year. It's about develop your culture and your
whole identity has been Damian Lillard for the last ten years.
You need to find what the new one is going
to be. That's what your opportunity is now for the
(18:19):
Portland trail Blazers, and it should be one that says, hey,
if you come here and star, we'll take care of
you on the back end.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
I agree with you, guys.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
They should do right by Dame Lillard, like you said
in the last seven and don't make it ugly. I
just think that they missed the boat on us, and
they screwed themselves by just waiting so long and then
not waiting to like, damn, there, you know the twelve
hour and now you have to just take what you
can get from the heat. He already knows that's where
he wants to go. He's made it known. Everybody's been
(18:46):
talking about. It's not been a big secret. It's been
a big elephant, what they say, the big pink elephant
in the room. So yeah, you do right by him,
and then I guess you bring him back and retires
Jersey later later in life, and you know, he put
him up in the rafters and he.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
He'll get a big applause. He didn't make it ugly.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
The one thing I will say about Dame is any
Portland Trail Blazer fan could never even though Nags asks
for a trade, they could never try to diss this
man because he I mean, even against just everybody else saying, dude,
go somewhere else, You're not gonna win there.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
He kept. He's still fast that I'm loyal. I'm here.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
I don't want to chase rings. I don't want to
do super teams. I don't want to do all that stuff.
I want to stay here. I want to I want
to win it here. So at the end of the day, man,
you know, they can't even be mad at him. So
you're right, he'll come back and get a jersey raising
in the raptors moment, and the front office should do
right by Dame. Get him to Miami, get the best
package you can, and like you said, set your culture
for the future and move on.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
He's gonna get a standing ovation every time he walks
back into whatever the hell Portland's arena is called right now,
is not the Rose Garden no more?
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Come on, man, I mean, I don't know, dude, I'm
asking another day. Look the other day he calls sacrament
Arco arena. I didn't did I call? Like that was
like Chris Weber was there.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
It is the Moda Center, thank you. It happened for
a few years.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Okay, but what is it the same building or is
it a new building? I believe it's the same Okay,
so it's just a different Okay, So like Staples and
then Crypto dot Com, it's.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
Probably the Moda Center at the Rose Garden or whatever.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, okay, yeah, Rose Garden, man. I like Rose Guard,
just like I like Stables whatever. You know. Yeah, it's
so fascinating how the people just get used to what
it's called.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
Like Staples was an office supply company? Is a office
supply company? Let me no, I don't know. And Kobe
and Shack maybe, do you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
It's not like like the Louisiana Superdome, Like somebody came
up with a what should we call this big old stadium.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
We're gonna call it. We'll call it the Superdome, you
know what I'm saying. Like that was a name.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
The Silver Dome in pontiac A name Joe louis Arena,
named after one of the greatest Detroit boom. There you go,
name for somebody. Is it still the Joe Louis Arena,
Joe Louisa don't exist anymore.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Okay, it's word down, all right. Cool.
Speaker 9 (20:54):
I'm gonna say some sponsorships fit like Ford Field Works
for Detroit, Hinesfield Works for work Work, you work for Pittsburgh, Yeah, Acrotures,
Michigan Insurance Company. Nobody thinks l A And it's like,
oh yeah, I really like the Staples Center mega outlet there.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Yeah, but you know like that, you know, it's like
the La Memorial Coliseum. Boom, you know what it is.
It's right there. It's got its own name. They said,
what should we call this thing? Oh, you know what,
it reminds me of Rome. Let's call it the Coliseum.
And if they changed the name, would you guys go? Okay?
Speaker 3 (21:23):
So now it's the it's the fan Duel, It's the
Fan Dual College, the fan due Field, this fan dual Field. No,
you guys will still go, man, that's the Coliseum. But
the point of the matter is that Arco is a
company just like Van Duels, a company just like Staples
as a company, just like you know, if you wanted
to buy the dunder Mifflin.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Uh, I don't read the sponsor.
Speaker 9 (21:43):
I don't know, I don't know the sponsor in the
New Orleans super Dome, but it's still just the you know,
it's the super Dome down there.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
No, that's why Mercedes is and.
Speaker 9 (21:50):
It's it's Caesar's. It's like Caesars.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Okay, now, now you're from down there. Do people call
it that or they still call it the super Dome?
Are the people say, yeah, I'm going to the game
at the Caesars don't or do people still call it
the super Dome? Backgone of the matter. VJ companies spend
a lot of money for this and I don't have
to care about that, all right, but you do care
that one used to.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
That's that's my point. That's the one I know. I
know Arco, I know Rolls, I know Staples. We have
Martin Medina coming up after the update. But Steve Disager
will let us know everything going on out. A lot
of baseball today, Steve, what's up man?
Speaker 10 (22:22):
You had a lot of weather delaying baseball. Currently, there's
due to be for part of the country, Fox TV
having the Dodgers at Royals that is not yet underway
due to rain. So for part of the country it's
raised at Mariners instead. Scoreless in the bottom of the
first Guardians at Cubs, not yet underway due to rain.
Top of the ninth, rain delay at Pittsburgh, Brewers leading
(22:44):
eleven eight over the Pirates, and they're back after a
second rain delay in Saint Louis to the ninth inning,
Cardinals leading eleven to one over the Yankees. And that's
just the first of a double header because of a
rain out. Last night in Saint Louis, the Mets and
justin Verlan beat San Francisco four to one. Texas a
five to two winner over Houston. Nathan Valdi with seven
(23:06):
scoreless sinnings is ten to three now for the Rangers.
Philadelphia was a nineteen to four winner over Washington. Atlanta
won its seventh straight games seven nothing against Miami. The
Oakland A's have just won in tenanting, seven to six
over the White Sox. Earlier it was Boston holding on
seven to six at Toronto, and San Diego beat Cincinnati
(23:26):
twelve to five. The Reds were first in the NL
Central a game over the Brewers, who.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Again are leading late but in a rain delay.
Speaker 10 (23:34):
And we've got all the NBA news Like last night,
a ton coming in the NBA free agency period started
last evening. Portland Trail Lazers guard Damian Lillard did request
a trade. The Hornets will give guard LaMelo Ball a
five year extension for the rookie maximum. The Lakers resigned
D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reeves. At LA signs center Jackson
Hayes from New Orleans. The Clippers resigned Russell Westbrook one
(23:57):
year plus a player option, and the Clippers are acquiring
kJ Martin from Houston. Milwaukee resigned center Brook Lopez to
a two year contract and resigned Jay Crowder yesterday. The
Bucks resigned Chris Middleton. Orlando today resigned Moe Wagner do
a two year deal. Cleveland gets Max Struce from the
Heat four years sixty three million dollars for his new contract.
(24:18):
Houston will sign Dylan Brooks from Memphis. The Pacers will
trade for Obi Toppin from the Knicks. Philadelphia is signing
veteran guard Patrick Beverley. US men's soccer continues the Gold
Cup Tournaments Sunday nights on Fox TV against Trinidad in
Charlotte's Back to You.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Thanks Steve Martin VJ.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Coming to you a lot from the Tireck dot Com
Studios without further ado, let's get my guy in here,
NBA Insider, Fox Sports Radio Insider, and it does go
a little something like this, my man Mark, Madena funky
koviin did you get him on Twitter? At Mark g
Underscore Madina Now Mark, last week I said, I want
(25:01):
to delete this story out of my brain. I'm sick
and tired of hearing about Dame Lillard want this day
married to the Grind. It seems as if him and
the Grind have gotten a divorce. What's going on? What's
the latest out of Portland?
Speaker 4 (25:15):
My guys?
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Yeah, well, look Blazers GM, Joe Cronin. He gave a
statement to me and some others where he said, you know,
we've been clear that we want Dame here, but he
notified us today that he wants out and he preferred
to play someplace else. What has not changed for us
is that we're committed to winning. We're going to do
what's best for the team in pursuit of that goal.
You know, I did some more digging after that, just
(25:37):
trying to talk to folks in the organization. What was
conveyed to me was this is a fluid situation. So
the early senses, the Blazers are comfortable with playing this out,
whether you know they trade Damian Liwards, you know, today, tomorrow,
next few days, or you know, really play out the
long game with waiting through the rest of free agency,
(25:57):
haven't forbid even until next season, because I don't think
that they're in rebuild mode. They want to still make
moves that will make themselves, you know, a competitive playoff contender,
and so with that, I think that you will see
a much different situation than what you saw with the
watching Wizards when they traded Bradley be Able to Phoenix
(26:17):
worse about just collecting assets containing the restar buttons.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Martin mcdana vj Ryder Husky here, great talking to you
for a second day in a row, buddy.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
How you doing manwise? I'll take it, man, Yes, sir.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So let's go to that ownership because I just kind
of threw that at Martin where I do think I
agree with Martin that I think they should do right
by Dame Lillard. But they are still a business. They
are still they still need to worry about themselves first. Yeah,
we'll move you if if, if that's what you want,
but we're just not taking back scraps. We're not taking
any deal. We'll stand fast on this, and you being
(26:49):
that you brought that up. But I feel like, and
Marg's correcting me, it's not the eleventh to twelve hours,
the eleventh hour, So I'm gonna say eleven fifty nine.
I feel like they've waited till eleven fifty nine. If
they were gonna move them, they probably should have did
is maybe a year, year and a half, even maybe
two years ago that now the deal they're going to
get is going to be so bottom of a barrel
because other teams know they want out, that Dame Lillard
(27:09):
wants out.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Man, what do you see with that?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Yeah? I think that there was a slow build up
because I even asked Joe Cronin before the trade deadline
out this past season, but the previous season when it
seemed like, you know, there is the sports on the
road where you blow up, and I said, why not
just restart here from scratch here and do a rebuild?
And he said that I don't feel like we have
(27:33):
the appetite to do it, and we feel confident that
we can still stay competitive with what they have. And
at that point, that was days before they finally traded CJ. McCollum,
which you know, there were a lot of calls for
them to break up that backcourt for a while, and
so I think what happened was the Blazers were in
this catch twenty two where they made the playoffs for
(27:56):
eight consecutive seasons. From that standpoint, they're one of the
most consistent teams for a good stretch of this past decade.
The problem was they were never really a serious contender.
They're always seen as a dangerous playoff team, but nothing
more than getting past the second round, And when they
(28:17):
got to the West Finals in twenty nineteen against the Warriors,
it was a prime opportunity because Kevin Durant without the
entire series with a calf injury, and they got slept still,
and so I think because of that, it's been this
kind of slow burn where, you know, even Damian Lillard
talking to him over the years, he was always adamant
that he was about that grind, he was about not
(28:41):
trying to forge super teams, and some of it was
also through a pragmatic lens that hey, even if they
didn't win titles, they were always considered a team that
could make a run in the playoffs and all they
needed was one or two pieces, and so fast forwarding
it now, I think there was some series of events
here where Damian Lillard's getting hurt, they're losing, They're having
(29:05):
young guys that seem like they have some good potential,
but it's going to be a long rebuild. And so
when the season was over and he said that, you know,
I don't want a bunch of babies, didn't play with
a bunch of young guys, That's when I think the
Blazers got their antenna and ears up a little bit more,
because that was the first time that Dame ever really
(29:27):
expressed serious misgivings about, you know, potentially wanting to leave.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Speaking of playing with a bunch of young guys, everybody's
been talking about how much cast space of San Antonio
Spurs got. But the other team in Texas, the Houston Rockets,
they got a ton of young players and have made
some big time moves, maxing out Fred lan Vlie, giving
Dylan Brooks eighty over four years. They just got to
(29:52):
Jock Landale from Phoenix and trading got sign Patty Mills
with this is this two questions here, this getting adults
in the room kind of so to speak for Houston,
what kind of impact do you think that I have
on these young kids? And are we seeing some of
these numbers that feel to my eye a little inflated
as a result of the new CBA.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Well two things. Yeah, it is about bringing adults in
the room. Fred van Vliet's one of them. He made
a dooka the first year head coaches another. You know,
with the Rockets, you know they were seen as a
bunch of young players, but you know they kind of
didn't play as a team, they didn't have the right habits.
So yeah, that's the answer to your first question. The
second question, it's not necessarily a result of the CBA.
(30:38):
It's a result of just the revenue increasing and so
that's why the numbers go up. And look, players are
worth what teams offer them, So you know, obviously we
can't get reupt or wrapped around what I think from
the outside looks like monopoly money. But I think on
the on the other wrinkle with the CBA, what has
(31:00):
been the effect is that in the short term, because
there's more spending penalties for teams that are over the
luxury tax with that so called second apron That's why
you saw certain teams make cost cutting moves because they
want to be able to you know, final, you know,
have more tools at their disposal to be able to
(31:22):
round out the rest of their rosters. So a perfect
example with the Lakers, you know, they waived guys like
Mobamba and Shakille Harrison and that helps them get under
that apron so that they had a full tax payer
mid level exception around twelve and a half million that
they can use on a player like gave Vinson. So
(31:43):
in the short term at least, there were some teams
that are being a little bit more judicious with the spending.
But after that, the faleries are going to go up,
and especially with the new TV deal that expires after
twenty four to twenty five, it's going to even more.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
I got one beef here, I got one beef. What's
the deal with the apron medana. You're in the know,
you I know, you're talking to people that make moves.
Why are we calling this thing an aprin?
Speaker 4 (32:10):
An apron is something you put over your clothes affect
yourself from cooking. What are we talking? Okay, get a
what is that second apron? First apron? I don't like
it one bit.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
I mean, you could do that, or you can read
the four hundred page CBA filled with legal jargon, like
I think, I think that's a way of find it.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Let's stick with the team.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
You know a lot of and you know a lot
about your running them alive. You just mentioned them, the
La Lakers. Uh, I've been impressed. I'm not gonna lie.
I'm a guy that bangs on them enough. And everybody
knows that butt Delo Rue Austin, they keep everybody there.
Polinka felt like dougas hills in and this is the
first time really in Lebron's career, especially in the last
what ten twelve years, where we know there were probably
(32:48):
moves he wanted to be done. We keep hearing about
Turner and Healed and they were gonna go after Chris
Paul and they've been talking Dame Lillard in this city
for the last three years. But it looked like, you know,
Jeannie and Polinka said, listen, we're going to run this back.
We're going to do it how we want to do it.
We need to set ourselves up from the future in
case Ad goes down. Are in case you Lebron leave
next year, if your son gets drafted somewhere else, do
(33:09):
you want to go play with him? What has just
been your thoughts of what the Lakers have done and
does this kind of set Rob Polinka par say, Hey,
I'm a real GM guy, I'm not just Kobe's former
agent and his best friend.
Speaker 5 (33:20):
Well, look, I think Rob Polinka did earn his stripes
a little bit when he got Anthony Davis right, and
he got some good positional players. I know at the
beginning of that deal there was a feeling that even
though they they won the trade, they lost the negotiation
so to speak, because they gave up so many draft
picks and young players. But I think where he really
(33:41):
rectified his reputation, at least, you know among Laker fans
and Lebron James, is you know the trade deadline moves
this summer or this past season. Excuse me, And I
think you know, as far as whether you blame the
front office or you blame Lebron James or combination of both,
you're you're obviously going to get differ versions from both
(34:01):
parties on you know, who was more to blame with
the Russell Westbrooks fiasco. But I think as it pertains
the front office and the fact that they're the ones
that make the decisions or say no to decisions. I
think they learned their lessons of what happens when you
have a third player without the kind of continuity in
depth that they need around Lebron James and Anthony Davis.
(34:24):
And so they saw this past season. You know, there's
no star players. There were some good things, bad things,
some in between, with consistent inconsistency. But when you add
it all up, they were the first the best defensive
team in the league. They had the third best record
in the league, and they after being thirteenth in the
Western Conference, they got to the Western Conference Finals. So
(34:46):
the feeling was, let's build off of that, Let's keep
those players DeAngelo Austin really as long as the cap
numbers are good, and then let's find other ways to
improve on the march because we can build off of this.
And I know that there was some skepticism of the
idea of, oh, really, you're going to run it back
when you got swept to the Nuggets, but I think
(35:09):
the Lakers internally were also mindful of this. One the
Nuggets are a good team, but two, they partly got
swept because Lebron and ad were exhausted for just having
to play with Game seven intensity when they were on
the floor the second half of the season just to
make up ground. And then theoretically, even if they're a
year older next season, they're also going to be more
(35:31):
recharged from the off season rest as well as having
a better team around them, so they're not playing catch
up the second half of the season. So mission accomplished
was what they did in free agency, and now they
just have to prove it on the court.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
And mission accomplished here with Mark Medena coming and giving
us all the NBA info, Mark, thank you for your
time and your information, my friend, Mark.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Appreciate you guys, and appreciate the music.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
No doubt. Fourth of July.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
All right, this team decided to run it back. Will
the seque will be more like the Empire strikes back?
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Are too fast, too furious? That's next? Martin V Martin
and VJ.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Coming to your line from the tyrack dot Com Studios.
DJ looks like Golden State said, hel you know, punches
be damned, We're bringing you back. Draymond four years, one
hundred million dollars twenty five a year. Congratulations to him.
I'll tell you what well I played against Draymond Green
the West Bluefield versus Sagon on High. I never would
have thought he would have signed multiple NBA contracts, But
(36:33):
here he is, Yeah, on his I think third now
fourth NBA contract.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Congratulations to him. Looks like the Warriors are bringing the
band back together. They have to. They don't have a choice.
This is the smart move by him, smart move by them.
They got pooled out of there. You had to clear
that out of there, regardless of whose fault it was
and who did what. At that point that that don't
even matter anymore. You gotta move forward, and Draymond is
part of this piece that wins championships there. I don't
(36:58):
think they can win without him. They couldn't do it
without Clay and they couldn't do it without Steph. I mean,
unless you're replacing him with another top you know, seven
or eight player overall in the league. So this is
a great deal for them. They're gonna try to run
it back. They're gonna ride this thing out, man, and
I agree with the deal. You know, four years, one
hundred million. There was a reason why he was smiling
at that golf tournament. A little golf event with Steph
(37:21):
and Kelsey and Mahomes and Clay is the reason why
he's out there having that much fun, even shutting off
Charles laughing off Charles Barklay's comment of you should be
a lot nicer. You only have a job right now.
They say you need to be nicer. You only have
a job right now.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
So about Charles Barkles saying that he'll have a job
at seeing Tee the moment Raymond.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
The moment it's over. That's why he was out there
getting working. Trust me, he was getting paid to be
out there. He wasn't there just to be there. They
were definitely paying him to be there. But I like
the move man. I want to see go to State,
ride this thing and finish this thing out. That's been
refreshing to see this in the era of super teams.
And let's go here, let's go here, let's join here,
let's join up there where these three guys so like
now we all came in, we started this together, We're
(38:03):
gonna finish this, finish this together.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
I like the move man.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
I mean, you know, at this point, it's similar to
the Dame thing, except they've won.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
They've won a ton of titles. I kind of disagree.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I feel like if if you look at the way
the Warriors have won their last their last few playoff series,
going back to the title, there's a lot of Steph
and I think Draymond was impactful, but I don't Clay.
I think was has been a shell of himself, which
is not a knock. He's been hurt, I mean, come
back from injury. The idea that he's still playing at
a high level is one that not mostly people would
be doing.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Right.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
But I think you got to look at and I'm
not sure what would have came back on the open
market for we look at you know, these players moving
and who knows in a sign and trade. But I
think if you look, if you're Golden State, it's about
Steph Curry and that's it. To me, it's Steph Curry
and that's that. Like Steph Curry and four rebounders, not no, no,
you gotta have more than that. But hell, they got
through the first round with Steph Curry and Cavon Looney
and Clay and Draymond not doing you know, a whole
(38:56):
hell of a lot of much Wellon Louis might have
been their second best player.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
I don't think there's a question.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Yeah, that guy was grabbing with twenty rebounds, twenty four rebounds,
twenty three rebounds. What's gonna be interesting with the Warriors.
I know they have Chris Paul and I've already spoken
at how I like that move. I am interested to
see how they feel the rest of this roster out.
And there's still some free agent names that are available,
Like the one guy that I keep just pointing to
is Plumbly, a guy like Plumbley and Brooks. Neither one
(39:21):
of those guys have been resigned as far as I
can see, as far as come across a news wire
or anything. Yet they need size. The Warriors have got
to have back up size. Are they gonna get killed
against a bigger team like the Lakers killed them when
there were times Anthony Davis just couldn't be boxed out.
He can get any rebound, or when he got in
the post, he can score at will. They gotta add size,
(39:42):
and I'm just interested to see how they feel this
out before I think of what they're there, how far
they can go next year? Well, every team with aims
of going far and needs size. Because I got news
for you and be It'll be there, y'all, Kich, you'll
be there.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
Anthony Davis still be there.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
So you're gonna need people to go ahead and bump,
as they say, surprise to see Jock Landale a lot
of Phoenix. I'm surprised that Phoenix w wasn't able to
get that done. I would have thought that that, you know,
not that he's a starting guy, but I would have
thought that he is somebody that. I mean, he acquitted
himself very well against Jokis in the playoffs for as
far as somebody can do so right for a backup,
rotational type of player.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Thought he did well.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
But this player just signed a major deal in the
first day of free agency, and to me, it's the
biggest shock out. Martin VJ geting the next Fox Sports Radio.
That's right, Martin VJ broadcast in live from the ti
rack dot com studios tire iraq dot com. We'll help
you get there with unmatch election, fast free shipping, free
road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended in
(40:42):
Staller's tire rack dot Com. It's the way tire buying
should be.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
VJ.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
This is a topic of conversation throughout h throughout NBA
Free Agency or the week's leading up to it. It
was Kyrie Irving who was meeting with the Phoenix Suns,
and he was meeting here, and he was meeting there,
and it was all this, like, you know, they're meeting,
but like, to what end? How is he gonna go
(41:08):
to Phoenix under anything? With the VET minimum exception? And
part of it is it's Kyrie Irving.
Speaker 4 (41:13):
So you got to keep all options open, even those
that don't make any sense whatsoever, because who who knows.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
What's coming down the pipe. Well, the Dallas Mavericks signed
up for that for the next three years one hundred
and twenty six million dollars with a third year player option,
so basically two years if everything goes perfect, three years
if it's a disaster.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Yeah, absolutely, because he's gonna opt into that last year
exactly with Kyrie I, I you know, I like the move.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
He didn't end up maxing him, which you know, I
was thinking that would kind of would be what it
would be. But you're not really in a great position
to leverage if you're Dallas. But again, I would have
liked to do it for two years and a team option,
so that way I could have it for you know,
one year if it goes great, two years, if it
goes toast time.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Again the whole point of this, I don't know how
much of a market there was out there for him.
But again it's kind of like similar with the Dame thing.
And I think that the number one sterling example of
this and is with Kobe Bryant his last year is
with the Lakers. Sometimes you make moves that may not
necessarily be the strongest business financial sense move, but you
(42:23):
do it because it sends a message to how your
organization runs, how you run your team, what you value.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
When Kyrie and you trade all of that for Kyrie,
you know what I'm saying, You move on. You gotta
you gotta keep you gotta keep it, you gotta keep it, right,
you know what I'm saying. But you gotta keep it,
and you gotta keep them at a number. Right. Sure
you want to play hardball with him, Okay, yeah, we'll
give you a mid level exception or whatever, right because
there's not the because I don't think and it seems
to be that there wasn't much of a market out there.
(42:49):
But still I'm gonna I want to pay you something
that's commensurate to what you do when you're on the court.
Hopefully you'll be on the court. I imagine if the
calculus the Dallas Mavericks are making.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
I thought he would be there and that they would
be there last week, and I said that if I
was Kyrie, I just think maybe it's time that you
kind of humble yourself down to and meet the team halfway.
You're not gonna get the two to ten, you're not
gonna get the two hundred, you're not gonna even get
the one eighty. But if you can't live off of
another one twenty, my exact quote was just say, hey, okay,
(43:20):
can we do a deal for like one twenty to
one thirty boom three years? He signs for one twenty six,
And I think that's what Dallas is like, Hey, you
know what, Okay, we'll do that Dale.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
They got to spend the money. These teams print money, guys.
It's not.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
When I look at this Dallas team with Kyrie that
you're gonna be better with him than without them. And
I just think at this point you would much rather
have him and the whole offseason with Luca and with
Hardaway junior and with and with Reggie Bullock and some
of the other pieces that they have there, and Jason Kidd.
Maybe maybe Jason Kidd could be the quarterback you know,
per Se Whisper that you've been looking for for Kyrie.
(43:54):
A guy that's won a championship, a guy that's you know,
up there the top ten and assists and and stills,
a guy that has always been a leader. Maybe he
could be the guy to kind of plug into Kyrie
and get Kyrie to plug in the way people want
him to. Doesn't bother me as much as it bothers
other people, as you guys have.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
Heard here on Martin VJ.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
For like the last nine ten months, we've talked about
Kyrie in different facets, But I like to move for
both parties. I think you get the deal done immediately.
You know what's funny about on the teams you name it.
When I saw that come across my phone, I saw
six teams. I said, there's no way in hell he's
meeting all these teams. He's not going to meet all
these teams. He's either going stand in Dallas or you know,
(44:34):
I had no idea where he's going after that, because
even the Lakers where people like, oh, they can offer
him the mid level or the veterans men. I'm like, bro,
he wants his money. I don't know why y'all think
for some reason he'll take, you know, a lobo offer
to go play. The reason why people will say that
is because you look at the amount of money he's
left on the floor in the last three years.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
It's pretty significant. Yeah yeah, but with this deal, he
won't go to do it. On this deal, You're right
about that. He's left some.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Significant that amount of money, But it's not out of
the question that Kyrie said, you know what, I'll sacrifice
X amount of millions of dollars or whatever.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
I feel like I want to do this money.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
When you're talking this money, man, we were just talking
about Bruce Brown during the break right like two years.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
The team surprised me. I told both, the team surprised
me when I heard it. Not the deal. You gotta ring,
go get your money.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Now he's making twenty plus million over the next two years,
and he'll be a free agent again in two seasons.
He'll be able to go get another deal. Well, that money,
that money rings loud, man. This is kind of like
the thing about NBA contracts, you gotta really pay attention
to the last year and who's got the option. Right
In the NFL, you gotta pay attention to the guaranteed
number team.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
The second number is the real number. Like there are
cars four years on and fifty Now, no, it's really
two years and one hundred million. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
When you really break it down, and if it goes well,
then they could get extended a little bit further.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
With Bruce be guaranteed as one hundred million.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
Yeah, but with Bruce Brown it's that team option on
the second end, I imagine I would I think that
Bruce Brown would be a pacer for about twelve months.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
Oh wow, so you think he'll be a free agent
They won't pick it up the following year free agent
signing trade somewhere because he's I mean, every every team
in the league can use a Bruce Brown. Oh, every
team in the league can use that player. Like there's
a few different other guys who are like him and fits.
But to me, the role is primarily the Bruce Brown
(46:16):
role and the Nets before that, because even though the
Nets didn't have the team's success, it was very evident
that Bruce Brown was gonna be out there getting rebounds,
making the right pass, advancing the ball, hitting open shots.
Went open because he's gonna be open because he's the
fifth or sixth option here. But when he's there, he's
a staring his role. Right.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Yeah, at twenty million dollars a year, you put him
next to Tyres Halliburton, who's who is coming into his
own after being traded for Sacramentos Miles turning there.
Speaker 4 (46:46):
That's something you can feel also to the things you
can feel good about in Indiana. Is it something that
you're really gonna say, is like gonna be the future?
But no, Bruce Brown. It's the way every other team
can use him. He's a floor raizer.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
You get him for the price that nobody else was
gonna pay for him, and then in a year, when
you have established a different level of culture, you can
trade you can move off of Bruce Brown to a
team that a winner, right, because he the guy who
played the role before. Bruce Brown was like PJ. Tucker, Right,
he's older now, but he's like the guy he's like,
how does this guy continue? Only he's always on the playoff.
(47:24):
He's always in a playoff.
Speaker 4 (47:25):
Why Because he does the things that you need in
playoff runs to keep your team alive. Right, So I
think so that, But good good job on him, because
I don't First of all, I know, I know what
Mark Retinez said. I don't give a damn. Then you're
not telling me Bruce Brown signed for forty six million
dollars of two years without the new CBA, right, without
the without the penalties for paying or for hitting the
(47:46):
salary floor. Right, That's that's that's a reality. It's the
same thing with the Houston. Right, You're looking at Dylan
Brooks twenty million dollars a year, like you could have
really probably saved a little bit on that the guy has.
I'm not saying that no market, but it was ready
active at minimum, you know what I'm saying. It's gonna
say money on that.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
And this Houston thing was in the works for weeks. Yeah,
they they him and Van Fleet. I do did those
two guys? This was this was kind of wink wink
before you know, Hey, guys, look, we want you here,
you know, you know.
Speaker 4 (48:15):
But the fact of the matter is, if you gotta
spend this money, you might as well have targets, right,
You might as well have targets across the league of
where you really like guys. And then if I'm Bruce Brown,
I see the landscapes a year from now, I'm gonna
go to go to Indy make what probably I think
double the money I made last season, you know, saying
it's a boom twenty million even offered them this year
(48:37):
and then boom, let's see maybe trade And there's six
months after you get signed to be traded.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
So I don't know if it's this trade deadline or
next off season or the trade deadline of his second
year where it's like, hey, now I can come in
and be an Aaron Gordon type piece where they move
to they move into the Nuggets and traded to Like
you think the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (48:58):
Don't want Bruce Brown, you know what I'm saying, yours
where they had a meeting set up Boston Bruce Brown,
you know what I'm saying, Like the Bucks. So there's
a ton of teams that you know, the Warriors, the
Warriors especially well the Warriors wake and traded back for
their versus of Bruce Brown last year and Gary Payton
the second they let him walk. They traded at the
(49:18):
trade What are you back but there's the there's that
piece that's the same. He plays the same role essentially
of like the Hey, I'm gonna run around, I'm gonna
hit open shots. You gotta guard me. I'm gonna be annoying,
Like defensively, I'm getting the way enough, but I'm not
gonna be a star. You're never gonna run play the stars.
I'm gonna be an annoying player, you know, Like, yeah,
(49:40):
there you go with this Kyrie thing. Where so where
do you? What's the sex to you? For you? What
has to be? What do they have to do for
you to look at this twenty four months from now.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
Everybody's in, everybody behaves, Kyrie bates, everybody ays, But what
what has to happened for you to look at this
and go, hey man, that was a smart deal for them?
Lik what that did for that frame? Is it championship
a bust for you? That's what I think.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
I think.
Speaker 3 (50:05):
I think two conference finals are at least a conference
finals and a finals appearance.
Speaker 4 (50:10):
Well the thing first and second round is not gonna
get it done. We saw Luca walk.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
Through the Clippers all the way to his conference final,
like he's Luca's been there he's been there already.
Speaker 4 (50:18):
He's been there already with Jalen Brunton as as as
as as Robin.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
You know what I'm saying, And Jalen Brunston is a
hell of a player. I'm not trying to downplay that.
Speaker 6 (50:26):
I think after last year they could just make the playoffs.
Have to start there.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
But to the point of what makes this a good deal?
You had a team that was the fifth seed, fourth
fifth seed, they traded for Kyrie and decide to bring
him back.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
Because if you to that point, look, you could just go, right,
we were the fifth seed without you. Yeah, we get
we traded like Dorian and Finnie Smith and the like,
but we can find some rotation players, right, you could
just go if they're gonna make this move back, I
think making the playoffs that should be a game.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
They got to be fourth seed or higher and they've
got to get to the conference final. First and second
rounds not gonna do it. No one's gonna look at
if they get eliminated in five and round two next year,
no one's gonna come on the airwaves of going team
and go, you know what, yeah, this is better because they.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
Didn't even make the playoffs. Last year. That's not gonna
be an area.
Speaker 6 (51:12):
Yeah, and if it doesn't go well, you're gonna start
hearing well does Luca went out?
Speaker 4 (51:16):
Of course?
Speaker 3 (51:17):
Well, remember you guys called me. Now, remember you guys
say them out of my mind. When we're over the
old studio about six seven months ago, where I said
I talk about moving Luca, my man sitting right here
to the right says the most ridiculous thing he's ever
heard me say.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
I still agree. That's fine though, if it hold up.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
But if it's starting, but if this comes up next year,
if this starts to happen, if he starts to chirp it,
it's like, yeah, that's why you should have moved the
guy you're not.
Speaker 4 (51:39):
A year later, he's asking out no, which you should
not have done.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
You should not have traded for the tornado that is
Kyrie Irving and every place he liveds it turns into
a disaster. But now that you're here, right now, that
you have the tornado has land, you went from home
court advantage in the playoffs to not making the play
in the tornado's here. Now it's time to call female relief.
All right, let's get the trailers in Hunt three years,
(52:03):
one hundred twenty six million dollars and let's see if
we can rebuild to your point, bo Like, Yeah, you
took a team that was a Western Conference final contender
last year. Right is a year prior, let Jayalen Brunton
walk and he traded for Kyrie. Two disastrous moves.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
Yeah, right in a vacuum at this point here, this
is where we're at, and you can actually go back
to the Draylen Brunson mof you talk about.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
No, the problem is you traded for Kyrie. No, the
problem is you didn't even offer Jalen Brunson. There's where
the problem starts. You had to trade for Kyrie because
you didn't.
Speaker 4 (52:36):
Retain well, first of all, you didn't have to trade
for you absolutely didn't. You did not. You had left
them there, do something. You could have left them there,
Brooklyn miserable just like they were.
Speaker 6 (52:48):
Would you rather have Kyrie on the three year, one
hundred and twenty six million dollar deal or D'Angelo Russell
on the two year, thirty seven million dollars deal that he.
Speaker 4 (52:56):
Got right now? Yeah, Kyrie, Kyrie, really he's a much
better player. He's a better player. That's it. That's it.
That's really Yeah, that's it. Angelo Russell. Look, I know
he's going to be on the bench. I know he'll
have his cocoa water. If he gets in his post game,
I know he'll be there, Like you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
But if Kyrie is actually there in attendance, you know
what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 6 (53:16):
Kyrie, given the track record that Kyrie has, I don't
know if you can count on him to be there
for that. And at that point, like the Delo contract
is very tradable, the Kyrie contract isn't. Yeah, no one's
going to trade for that deal.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
What is your gut? What does your gut tell you?
What is your both of you either, what is your
gut tell you? This? Where this ends up? With the maps?
The deal is here. We probably wanted to work, Like
do you do? You do you hope it works out
for him?
Speaker 3 (53:40):
Or you don't care? I mean I don't care. I'm
not trying to be like a saw. I'm not sulky,
but like, I'm not invested in but I would like to.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
See it work out.
Speaker 6 (53:51):
It'd be nice if it did, It would be nice work.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
But what is your gut tell you? My gut tells
the part.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
My gut tells me that this is a bottom half
of the top the bottom half of the Western Conference
playoffs five five to six to seven, flirting with.
Speaker 4 (54:03):
The playing unless they made it first second round. Yeah,
but with the with the ability to make noise. Because
again you got two guys in Kyrie and Luke.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
I mean, Kyrie all his shortcomings, and you gotta adjust
it for games play.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
But let the NBA in fourth quarter scoring. Yeah, you
know what I'm saying, Like now, if you just gave
played Gonta qualified, but if you, if you, if you
squitch your eyes at the standings, you can see it right.
And then Luca, of course has been incredible.
Speaker 3 (54:29):
That the biggest thing for me really, Luca's got to
come in in shape and demands ready. He's got to
come in and we all talk, but they don't know
they talk. It's a common thing. Luca Lebron is whatever,
he dominates the game. Let's all right, let's actually see it.
It's actually got to happen. He's got to come in
and shape. Hohoka, doncics. All that's fun. But like you know,
drink your some spring water and run some miles before
(54:50):
you start this season.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
All right, please yeah, lead of white Potatoes along Martin.
Martin and VJ is brought to you by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable at a multipolity disc
on by combining motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more, all
protection at one place. Bundle and save at Progressive dot Com.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
It's one of my favorite games to play because we
don't keep scoring.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
Free agency, but there's winners and losers. We'll get to
that next.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
Martin and VJ coming to you live from the Tyreck
dot Com Studios. NBA free agency been moving fast and furious.
You know, it's what it started just a few hours ago,
and all of a sudden, you know, it's crazy how
many just.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
Deals made, deals made, deals made. None of this was
discussed prior, of course, VJ. As I'm sure that you know,
but uh, you got to pull different teams making some
big time moves. Everybody's talking about the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
Have all this cap space. Well, the Houston Rockets have
been the team making all the moves right there. You know.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
The Los Angeles Lakers made a lot of big moves
this year.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
But VJ, which was this summer I should say with VJ,
which team do you think had the best free agency
so far? And obviously it's an incomplete grade.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
I think it's the Memphis Grizzly. I like what Memphis
has done by bringing in Derek Rose. I like what
they've done by bringing in uh Marcus Smart. It kind
of puts Jah around some more mature, older guys maybe
to help him. You need somebody to be able to
study the point guard position. And now you have a
backup being at tyas Jones got traded to Washington, so
(56:19):
he's off and gone. And now you look at this
team and you go, Okay, now we got some adults
in the room that can probably help, but they can
also produce on the court. They can help these young
guys out. And then of course they loaded up Desmond Pain.
They went ahead and just gave him his max extension.
Speaker 4 (56:34):
That was Pain. Yeah, it was no brainer, but it
was still the just it's still the right move to do.
I'm people pushing back and I'm like dude from he
was from three.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
He's a good defender, he's a second a decent secondary
ball handler.
Speaker 4 (56:50):
He could use them helping the playmaking department.
Speaker 3 (56:52):
But I mean in terms of a playoff win, what
are you looking for exactly? So I thought I thought
they I thought they were my way. It was either
them or the Rocket. It's but I leaned. I leaned
over to Memphis because I think they're ready. They're more
ready to go further and possibly try to contend for
a championship than the Rockers are. So I say, the
Memphis Grizzlies on my winner so far.
Speaker 4 (57:10):
Yeah, I don't mind that. I don't mind that.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
I think trading might like trading for Marcus Smart, I
think was a big deal. I understand why Boston was
ready to move on especially yeah, because I mean you
got a lot of I mean their guard heavy between
Brogden White, you want Tatum to have the ball out
in his hands, you know, and then Peyton Pritchard. It
(57:33):
seems to be a favorite of the coaching staff because
he seems to be coming up off the bench all
the time.
Speaker 4 (57:38):
And I think, if you're gonna if you are going to.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
Be following Joe Mozoula's strategy, you know wants three pointers.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
It's all about offense. It's all about offense, All about offense.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
Marcus Smart offensively wasn't there and in the same way
that these other guards are.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
So if you're gonna lean in the Joe Mark just
had the gout, I'm about to say, yeah, I could
tell that was right off the top of your head.
That's good if you want to lead in the Joe
Marcus had to go. That was a good one. Yeah,
I still believe it or not. Was not grinding last
night thinking how I'm gonna come up with.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
No, I said, I thought that I came off on
the top of your head. Just now, that's why. Yeah,
that's why.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Yeah, that's why I said. I liked it.
Speaker 3 (58:15):
But I still I'm sorry, man, I just until this
is one of these things. And you guys know how
stubborn that can be with some of my opinions. I know,
yes some come on, man, don't do me like that. Bro,
we we're a team that's that's light skin on, light
skin crime. You're trying to pull right there, Man, come
we don't do that. But until I'm proven wrong, I
just do not like them getting rid of the heart
and soul and the you start to hear the stories
(58:37):
of how he helped really control the locker room, the
message between head coaches and players, the vibe the feeld.
Speaker 4 (58:43):
That stuff matters.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
And when you take it away and you and I
talked about this, who's the leader of the team, they
call coach Joe. Just like this, I don't want to
step on people's you know, toes around here walking on
egg shows.
Speaker 4 (58:56):
Let's all be kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
And Marcus Smart, I thought, was just that guy that
it's just like, this is what we're gonna do. Think
to you, I think you're saying that both sides of
the point there. You say, Marcus Martin.
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Is the is the loud, strong voice in the locker room,
right and the liaison between the coach and the players,
especially when well, what did we see this? What do
we see this year?
Speaker 3 (59:19):
Cause it just seems that there was never a of
all the different iterations of Boston head coach that we've
seen with this group.
Speaker 4 (59:27):
This is the furthest split, it seemed. This is the
furthest that it did seemed to be in terms of
different So I was like, all right, if your main
goal here is communicator translator, well there's a lot that
seems to be getting lost in translation.
Speaker 3 (59:40):
Yeah, but I'm not gonna put that on markeuts Smart.
I'm gonna put that I'm gonna put that.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
But if that's what his utility is on it, if
that's what you're telling me his utility is and it's
not getting done, then.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
All right, somebody's gotta go.
Speaker 3 (59:52):
And and that's not to say that it wasn't getting done.
What I thought happened with Boston, especially with their coach,
is the fact that the man got thrust it into
the position they didn't even really have. There was really
no time for him to really set his tone. You
don't do that like in the season. That happens in
the offseason, happens previous seasons. You don't set that tone,
(01:00:12):
especially with a new coach as the season goes on.
It's just like when they say your game doesn't improve
during the year, your game improves in the off season.
When you're working, you can't work on your game. And
when you're playing, you're already playing, you're already out there.
You're gonna resort back, resort back to like what you
know best in your move best anyway in the game,
especially when the clutch comes up where things get a
little tight.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
Just as human beings, we resort back to our pattern.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
That's why smart people say, hey, change your pattern in
the life because when things go down, you're gonna resort
back to your normal natural pattern. So you gotta have
different patterns and new patterns. But I just don't think
taking that out of the locker room and adding a
guy like Portzingis is gonna be the answer for them.
And like I said, until I'm proven wrong, I'll stick
with that, just saying both sides because you want to
(01:00:54):
go again. They were going back to what they had
been done.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
They had going back to what why aren't we playing
Robertilliams and out hord.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
For it at the same time because Joe doesn't want
to do it. If look, this is what you're gonna do,
If Joe's gonna be the star this show, this is
the way it's gotta be. Well, I just like, if
you want, if you want to Michael Jordan on the
Dream Team, Isaiah Thomas can't come, that's the way it's
gotta be like that. If that's if you and I
you want Isaiah on the Dream Team, all right, we'll
(01:01:20):
get on get rid of according to Mike and Sadi,
and that's not true, right all right, but yeah, but
we know what's going on. I'm just saying you know,
you know, this just is very simple. Who's your winner?
Who was my winner? Who'd you have as a winner?
Would you like? Would you like? I like what Houston did. Yeah, see,
we're right there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
I like what Houston did if nothing else, because I
don't care how they did for Steven Silas. I thought
he that was that was wrong, and they didn't give
him a shot to win. And then as soon as
they start investing in a chance to win, you know,
they move on to Nick Nurse, which, you know whatever,
I'm sorry not Nick Nurse, they move on to Email.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
U dooka god at. He's been a lot of coach movement.
But you know, I'm not a fan of that. Like
I do like Email in terms of his you know, disciplinarianism,
but I like that if you're gonna have this young
team with all these lottery picks, a guy like Fred
lam Vliet who has made it in this league, you
cannot deny he came up and he made it, cut
his teeth in his league and has earned every spot
(01:02:19):
that he's gotten, and he's gonna go be a legend
at the Bank in terms of undrafted contracts.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
I think that's a good win and then Dylan Brooks
is the type of guy that, hey, we saw it
in Memphis and it wasn't the best I get it,
but like he got a little bit over his skis
he was talking to Lebron. But the attitude that he
brings is still gonna be one that I think is
gonna be beneficial for all those young guys.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
The one thing I do want to push back with
some people about about Dylan Brooks, and we'll do that.
Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
Let's meet to Dylan Brooks right after this Martin VJ.
Brought to you by Discover.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):

the world today, Steve, what's going on, my friend?
Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
Hello.
Speaker 10 (01:03:06):
NBA's free agency period started last night, and you're right,
the news just keeps on coming. Portland Trailblazers guard Damian
Lillard did request a trade. The Hornets will give guard
LaMelo Ball a five year extension for the rookie Max. Meanwhile,
ESPN reporting the Knicks are landing Dante Devincenzo on a

defeated Houston five to two, winning pitcher Nathan Of all
these seven scoreless innings. He's ten to three onto the

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Back to you, Martin, if you did come with you
a lot from a tirerack dot Com Studios, and I
just would like to know a lot of America.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
No, I will not be bullied by my calls. I refuse.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
I refuse to be bullied by my calls. Yeah, no,
everybody wants it to Yeah, you're not it's not happening.
It's not happening. You're not gonna over there. Oh say
what your check?
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
Yes, yeah, I will damn it one day when I'm
ready to unveil the take day.
Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
This is what.
Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
This is what. You gotta let me, let me, let
me school you a little bit. You gotta let the
take marin aate first, not the up to take first.
Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
So that way, when you're out there firing, it may
seem like it's from the hip, but it's gotta be
well thought out and it's gotta be something that you
can go back to and feel good about.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
So this is what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna patch
you in the back, but then push you away at
the same time. You're a smart guy. You know sports Bro,
you're on the national radio show. We're here together. You
know sports this idea that you want to let it.
Marror know what you just said to me. The look
I gave you was like, Okay, like I like that.
It's a that's something you could say right now. You
(01:06:32):
ain't gotta let that, marror In that you ain't gonna
let that's the greater people also know that. It's so
all right, say what your chest a lot America and
on what we're talking about.
Speaker 6 (01:06:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
I turned to VJ and said, look at Bose, look
at them. He's interested.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
I'm glad we got you here now, I said, I
think the Houston Rockets will have a better record than
the San Antonio Spurs this season. Ay, but again, if
a free agency, I don't know what they're gonna be
doing going forward.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
I don't even know who's available. I don't know who
could get traded for. But it ain't to stand add.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
Though a thirty five Eastern Standard time on July first,
I think the Rockets will win more games this season
than the Spurs. And the reason why he said that
ladies and gentlemen in America is because we just heard
the great Steve the Steger tell us that the Rockets
are close.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
To finalizing finalized.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
On the deal for Paddy Mills, a great off the bench,
veteran grown man, adult in the room, point guard that
can score, gritty, could play defense, get steals down with flight.
What Yudoku is building, wh is building in Houston. I'm like,
hold on, I looked through Martin. I said, hey, man.
Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Houston could take a leap here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
Not not you know, fifth fourth see, nothing like that,
but playing it's a lot better than the twenty something
wins they had this past year.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
That's a that would be a.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Leap for him to come in in year one and
take that team and have them a nine fighting for
playing coming down to stretch in April.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
That's a great.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Leap because you know the next year are gonna be
better because he's shown that that type of track record.
Mark turned to me, he goes, yeah, I think Houston's
gonna have a better record than the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 4 (01:08:15):
And I didn't even look like okay, sitting here in July,
first I like that opinion. I like all this and completely.
Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
I think the Phoenix Suns has six players on their
roster right now. Okay, but that's Phoenix, but it's the NBA.
That's the point, the rosters not finalized. I thought it
was a good opinion. I'm saying, saying, with your chest,
you want to let these marinate. Sometimes you just gotta
throw it out there. Man, if you're wrong, that's just
so fun about this. If you're If it don't come true,
it's like, okay, cool guy, you can always go dude.
I said it back on July first. Okay, yeah he did.
(01:08:42):
He said that long time ago. But it was cute.
It was a cute to just throw it out there, bro,
and listen a right man, say with your chest, Bro,
come on, Mario, I'm just not in the business to
taking this to take, but you don't normally take to
just take. This would be one of the few that
you've thrown out. So that's why it's a good one
to throw out, because this isn't what you normally do.
(01:09:03):
You normally say you let it marin it, you let it,
you let it meticulate, you let it whatever, you let
it percolate, whatever word you want it?
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
What's not to like? You got Dylan Brooks twenty million dollars, Yeah,
Landale eight million dollars, got a great all of.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Them, Seingoon, Jalen Green, Yeah, the other, No Kidd, Flevan Vliet.
Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
You know what I'm saying. He's gonna come Bay. He's
got a title, he's a he's a he's a real guy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
All I know is his numbers haven't been great. His
numbers haven't been great in his last year in Toronto.
But again, I think a lot of that with the point, well,
there's a loft that has to do with the point
that was going on.
Speaker 4 (01:09:35):
He was shooting a lot. The Pascal Siakamkanda was like
the situation he's supposed to be the number one, that's
not true and not gonna not not bear in fruition.
So Fred ended up with a lot of late late
shot clock heaves. You know he's not.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
But again, in terms of a culture setter, you know,
in terms of a guy who come in and set
your locker room, it seems like a good.
Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
A good guy to be excuse me, have a good
use of Drake. I like the opinion and I'm a
ride with you.
Speaker 9 (01:09:59):
On it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
I like opinion when you and like, yeah, okay, we
is July first. What else can the Spurs do? Ain't
a lot left. Let's get real, go down the list.
Every time the sagre comes on.
Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
The names.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
Names are coming off the that can actually really help
and elevate your team.
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
Names are coming off the lip. Brook Lopez that's gone.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
So anybody that thought they could had a shot at Brooke, Nope,
he's staying in Milwaukee. Anybody that thought they had a
shot at Dylan Brooks are but Houston up Dylan. That
deal's been talked about. They had that lockdown. The names
that are left, there's not gonna be an update the
oh the Spurs signs such and such that are gonna
make people go yeah, that's what you do there, man, Yeah,
there you go, San Antonio. So that's why I thought
(01:10:37):
the opinion was a pretty good pick. And I think
it's dope to say now, and if it does happen,
you can lean back and be like, yeah, man, I
said that way back on July first.
Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
It would be a good call. That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (01:10:47):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
You know, change it up sometimes, bro, switch it up
a little bit, man. You know, use arm and milk sometime,
and your sirreal instead of the caw milk. Switch it out.
Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
I haven't had cow milk and at least five years.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
I'm going on your fourteen I apology gives to all
the dairy farmers. Big fan of cheese though, big fan
of cheese, right, yeah, yeah yeah, I don't think I
can ever give up cheese. Yeah, but anyway, I like
the opinion, but I think that's I thought that was
a cool opinion to throw out there. So we had
to rank the Texas teams next year, Dallas, Houston.
Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
San Antonio.
Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Yeah right, you want to call him better than Dallas? Listen,
dog Hurricane Irving. I just signed for three years, one
hundred and twenty six million. There you go, dive in man,
go full in.
Speaker 4 (01:11:26):
Mark. I have to say, you know, look seriously, though,
think about it. Often better after he left Brooklyn not
so much better after he left, but they sure feel
better about themselves, right, I mean think about what they
were doing though. Lying they were talking about Cam Johnson
and Michale Bridges, you would have thought it was Jordan
(01:11:49):
and Pippin, right.
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
They're like, hey man, we got just read up Cam
Cam Johnson's like Detroit's interested over with No.
Speaker 4 (01:11:57):
I know here here you can't have Campbell.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
We'll give you Joe Harris, which I liked for Detroit,
but god, I wanted Cam Johnson so bad for the Pistons.
Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
I know you, but I'm surprised.
Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
You go former tar Hill and there you go Tar
not former Tarhill. I just say tar Hill, and you
just say tar Hill. Ain't no formal because you're always
a Tar Hills, never former.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
I don't have the time. I don't have the time
for the You don't never have the time or lesson
grammar lessons? Here you talking about giving grammar lessons? Are
you kidding me? Listen? I write much better than I
speak talk talk speak, all.
Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
Right, coming up next Uncle Vj's corner, and you know what,
I actually have a nominee, but I'm not gonna take
this whole time. He'll have the Vanilla Brother'll be coming
up next, Martin VJ, Fox Sports Radio, Martin and VJ
coming to you live from the Tireck dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
It's Uncle Vjy's corner time. VJ. I know you normally
take this by the control, but I have to nominate
one guy. Right here, right now. I want to Jason Tatum.
Here's the reason why Jason Tatum called the NBA all
right Because previously there was a provision on contraction in
the new CBA that players who sat out an entire
(01:13:10):
season that season would count towards their league service time,
meaning they would not be eligible it would count a year.
So you couldn't sign a two way contract. Right You're
only eligible in your first three seasons to sign a
two way deal. Harry Giles was hurt for his entire
rookie year.
Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
He wanted to sign a two way deal right now,
but was not going to be able to because that
first rookie year would have counted for his four years
of NBA service time. Jason Tatum made a call helped
convince the NBA to allow if you were injured for
the totality of one of those years, it does not
count towards your service time. Therefore, Harry Giles the third
(01:13:50):
can still sign on a two way contract and give
him yet another shot to make it in the NBA.
Not a bad one, is that? Why when you came
in you asked me what my vanilla brother of the
week was with it.
Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
Jason tatle. Yeah, didn't want to step on it. That's
what you were gonna say. Oh no, no, it's not
Jason Turtle, that's not Vanilla brother worthy.
Speaker 7 (01:14:05):
But it's nice, all right, everybody gat her around.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
It's that time of the week.
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
Oh man, it's that time of the day.
Speaker 8 (01:14:14):
I'm telling y'all.
Speaker 7 (01:14:14):
Man, Yes, it's time for everyone's favorite uncle.
Speaker 4 (01:14:19):
And you add the cherry on the top.
Speaker 7 (01:14:21):
It's time for Uncle Vjy's Corner.
Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
Yes, sir, on what over and over and as always, man,
we welcome to Uncle Vj's Corner. I am your Uncle VJ.
Vernon Husky, the big Vanilla Funny. Y'all come over here
and sit down and hide.
Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
Out in la.
Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
We're under the shadeo man, sitting on here in the
corner of another drive and handsome boulevard. And I want
to tell you, guys a story about this week's Vanilla
Sister of the Week that has exemplified the three seeds
it takes to get this award. Cool, calm and being
collected takes ballance, focus, and mental toughness. I want to
talk about a young lady that was born back on
(01:14:57):
March fourteenth, nineteen ninety seven, and Columbus, Ohio. Martin and
I both hate that city. She was born and grown
woman now man five four to nine.
Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
That's a little thing.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
But she grew up in Spring, Texas, which is in
the Houston Era. After her and her sister Adria were
adopted by her grandparents, she immediately took to a sport
call gymnastics. She won the bronze and the Junior Junior
Olympics in the vault, in the uneven bars and the
balance beam and the floor exercise when she was.
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
Just fourteen years old.
Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
She went on to twenty thirteen to get the all
around title in the World Gymnastics Championship.
Speaker 4 (01:15:34):
She was the.
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
First African American woman to complete that feat.
Speaker 4 (01:15:40):
She kept it rolling, man, she was just getting started.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Twenty fourteen, four gold medals at the World Games, individual
gold medals in the beam and the floor, and the
silver in the vault a. Let's go to twenty fifteen,
when she won her third straight all around title, the
first woman to do that since Kim zamescal And she
pulled off the hat trick of winning goals and three
(01:16:02):
of the individual awards and events in that one. Let's
go on into the twenty twelve Olympics. If we want
a little bit here, she would have made that team,
but she was too young. That's how good she was.
She would have went on the Olympics back then in London,
but she was too young. But she did get her
shot in twenty sixteen and Real where she walked in
(01:16:23):
as the prohibited favorite to wow us, and boy did
she ever.
Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
She won gold for the team.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
She won gold individual, which was the fifth female gymnast
to win four goals in any Olympics. She is currently
now twenty six years old, and she's also been in
some other Olympics, where in twenty nineteen five goals, the
first time in over sixty years that a woman accomplished
that feat. She has thirty two Olympic and World gold medals.
(01:16:52):
We all do remember, though, in the twenty twenty Games,
which were in twenty twenty one, because of COVID and Tokyo,
she withdrew from mental health awareness for things that have
occurred with the gymastics program and the whole ordeal with
that gentleman. We don't have to rehash all of that.
She wasn't the only one. It was a bunch of
young ladies. She could have just went away, guys, and
just sat with her thirty two world titles and never
(01:17:13):
came back. And nobody would have even blamed this young woman.
But she went and she stayed cool, calm and collected.
She got married to the Green Bay Packers. Defensive fact,
she is now a wife, and now she is an older,
grown woman, far removed from the young little girl that
we all fell in love with. And then this week
she announced that she will be coming back and she
(01:17:34):
will be participating in the US Classic in Illinois after
having two years off. These are very important meets here
in America. But she is revving up. And I'm pulling
for this young woman to make her fourth Olympic team,
which would be a record for female gymnasts in the
history of the sport. In Paris. Guess so she would
(01:17:57):
be tying, guys, Miss Dominique Dalls. Y'all remember that name too,
the other women that ever do that. Man, I'm pulling
for this young lady. I loved watching her perform. I
love the fact that she spoke up about mental health
awareness because it is important. And we are just coming
out of June, which is mental mental health Awareness month
for men, and it's never talked about. And I'm a
(01:18:17):
guy that speaks my mind, where my my my feelings
on my shoulders and my sleeves. I don't care what
people think of what people say, and I'm going to
tell you how I feel. If I'm good, I'm good.
If I'm not, I'm not, I'll get up and I'll
move on. And the way she has done that has
really opened the doors for a lot of athletes of
her caliber, along with a lot of other athletes that
have also done it, to speak about mental health awareness.
(01:18:40):
It is important. But like I said, this woman is
bouncing back. I'm pulling for her for the twenty twenty
four games over in Paris.
Speaker 4 (01:18:47):
Miss Simon Miles.
Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
She's a cutie five too. Man, She's like a little
porcelain doll. You just set her up on the show
for the company to look at when they come over.
You my sister, God bless you, man. You are the
vanilla A sister of the week. Week we twenty twenty
four pairs. Let's go get some more gold medals.
Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
Baby. I actually believe she got married this offseason too.
Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
Defensive back for the Green Bay Packers. His name is
I forgot. I didn't write that part down to.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
Important something detections. But she looks happy.
Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Jonathan Owens, there we go, Jath, congratulations to him. Yeah, absolutely, no,
she's a she's a She's just a She's a great
figure to look up to. Like I said, we're talking
about mental health awareness and athletes. We never know what
they're dealing with, and a lot of times we sit
on our sofas and on radio, TV and we like,
we don't care.
Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
But these are human beings too. For her to do
it on.
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
The world stage, this wasn't the super Bowl, this wasn't
the the NBA Finals, this wasn't this that.
Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
This was the Olympics, and she was the prohibited favorite.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
She was the face of the games, not just our country,
she was the face of the entire games. It's a say, look,
I can't do it, guys, I gotta take a break,
and I'm sorry it's at this point, but it is
what it is. But she's coming back the US Classic
in Illinois August, fourth through the six. Guys, if you
can on the Internet or whatever, just check it out.
Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
A supporter.
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
Hope she makes the twenty four to twenty twenty twenty
fourteen to four Olympisks.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
Best of luck to her coming up next to the NFL,
we got more guys doing some.
Speaker 4 (01:20:20):
Brain dan moves.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
We'll get into that next Martin and VJ Fox Sports Radio.
That's why Martin and VJ broadcasting live from the ti
rack dot com studios. Tire rack dot com. We'll help
you get there with fast, free shipping, free road as
to protection, an unmaxed selection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tiraq dot com is the way tire buying should be.
Bjho's getting to a little bit of the National Football League.
(01:20:45):
On Thursday, it announced that three more players have been
found to have bet on football penalties, coming down with
the regular harshness that we have seen in definite suspensions
that can only be appealed after an entire season. The
second set of such gambling penalties that have been levied
this offseason, and it's the same as the three that
(01:21:05):
we had earlier. Isaiah Rodgers On Thursday, Rashad Barry, both
of the Indianapolis Colts, free agent Demetrius Taylor, who's not
currently on a team, Well, he can't be on another
team for at least another year, and then after that
he can appeal should he choose too. The integrity of
the game is of the utmost important set.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard of the decision, and that's
pretty much the same thing you hear out of the league.
League Executive vice president for Communications Jeff Miller says, the
integrity of the game has to be held at such
a high standard that there is no tolerance for this
sort of behaviors. I'll just say thiss VJ.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
We saw the most decorated quarterback of my lifetime, probably
the best one of all time. Tom Brady have a
tall types of hell questioning about the rate to which
in the level to which footballs were inflated or deflated,
in part because they had questions about whether or not
that it gave Tom an unfair advantage. The NFL is
(01:22:09):
not going to allow any feeling, sense, thought process, any
impropriety to rock On. I know that it's very Airyan
Foster and PFT comment that we'll go out there and
talk about the NFL script. Right, they have to be
(01:22:32):
terrified of something like that, and to see how how
much a gas that fire contains, right, how quickly that
thing goes. Gambling is something that has been around since
the history of sport since the first Olympics, there was
people betting on it. I did my entire grad school
(01:22:52):
thesis on this. I studied this the impact of gambling
on the four major professional North American sports. Yes, my
takeaway with this, now, more than ever, you have got
to be stringent and demanding on the rules of the game,
both in CBA officiating and all parts in between. Because now,
(01:23:13):
I'm more than ever there are going to be people
who are aggrieved of all types of situations. Now, this
one in particular.
Speaker 4 (01:23:23):
Is not one that seems particularly hard to me, because
if I'm the player, the NFL have d incentivized gambling,
first of all, a practice in which I participated frequently
and lose all types of money doing money I can
afford to lose.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
But still you lose all types of money doing so.
But the point of the matter is I ain't making
nearly enough money to where I would recond like think
about you know, hey, they said you can't talk on
the radio if you're gonna get Now I'm good. I'm good.
Although I don't need the bet. I'll just give out
picks as everybody bet responsibly.
Speaker 4 (01:23:56):
There we go. If you're in the NFL and you
gamble wherever you go gamble at. They're the people that
are turning you in for the like they're the people.
It's essentially the same concept of knowing that the cop
is undercover and buying drugs. Anyway, they're the ones that
(01:24:19):
are turning you in selling buying from the undercovering, knowing,
knowing that this guy standing on the corner is going
to go back to the station and clock out when
his shift is over. But you know what, he's got
a good deal. Let me run up on him. No,
(01:24:39):
you're getting yourself caught. You deserve all the punishment that
comes down because the rules are very out light and
very straightforward. Ain't nobody tricking you. And this ain't like
the situation where they're going, Hey, you know you're supposed
to tell me if you're a police officer, there's a
law about that. Ain't no law, Ain't no law. But
I'm here to tell you, guys, everybody listening, if you're
(01:24:59):
in in the NFL, just don't just wait. Just wait
until you retire three years from now and you get
a show sponsored by fandel or Bet MGM or DraftKings
or call Jamie Fox and John Sally and to do
that way. But no, no, no, no, no no, it's the
dumbest thing you could possibly get called doing at this
point in time, because it's all your fault.
Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
Yeah, this is this is Show me a picture of
somebody dumb and one of these players pop up, like
if dumb, if I'm an idiot, was a person, and
it's one of these people. Because like you said, this
is a really easy rule to follow. If you're an
NFL player, this is easy. This might be the easiest
NFL rule to follow. This might be the easiest one
(01:25:41):
out there. It's because it's.
Speaker 4 (01:25:43):
Just so simple.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
I don't care if it's at the facility or if
you was in your on your team or your league
or your this is just don't do it. Don't bet now.
I'm gonna play Cynical two and play Devil's Advocate. If
you're gonna bet, dude, get the money to a friend.
Can't get the rules and get the Okay, I got that,
(01:26:05):
but nobody's got to know he gave the money to
a phrase of what I'm saying the rules, I'm just.
Speaker 4 (01:26:09):
Saying I got. You can get suspended just for that.
You can't bet through proxy either, yeah, so, which is
what that is.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
Now on the flip side to that with the NFL,
just kind of the hypocrisy of this is you're telling
players they can't gamble and bat, but every commercial break
Kevin Hard is sitting on the counch and telling you
about FanDuel or DraftKings dot Com. Whumba dogs at you. No, no, no,
I'm just listen. Like I said, I'm just playing. I'm
(01:26:36):
just playing Devil's abacat be in synegram. Now say I
agree with it, but it is the facts. The facts
are you're telling your players you can't gamble and they
shouldn't gamble.
Speaker 4 (01:26:44):
I agree with that part. I'm with that part. But
then at the.
Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
Same time, you are running fan duel and Draft Kings
and all this stuff all around them. You're playing into
it as their sponsorship, you're making money off of them,
but your players cannot be involved in it. If in
the NFL, there's gotta be and you could clean that
part of it up, or here's my thing, and I'll
throw this at you. You're probably gonna I can I
(01:27:08):
can tell you probably will say no. Couldn't the NFL
just say okay, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:27:11):
Look.
Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
All football is just off. You can gamble on anything
else in the world. We don't care if you're doing
it at the facility or whatever. But you just can't
gamble all the sport of football.
Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
Go have fun with basketball, Go have fun with hockey,
Go have fun with baseball, Go have fun with horses,
and can do that now you just can't. So then
if you're betting, now one of the guys got in
trouble because he did it at the facility. You can't
do it at work. So you can't do it at work.
That's dumb, dumb.
Speaker 4 (01:27:41):
No, you're at work. You're supposed to be working. Yeah,
whatever you talk about it dumb. No, it's not. No, no, no,
it's not. He's dumb.
Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
What he said, I mean, what he did excise me
is no. What he did not. The rule is dumb.
All right, I'm about to sell Yeah, yeah, I'm not
just saying, like, you know, he's.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
At work, he's supposed to be working. You know, I
get bet on football. Why would you do that? Why
would you bet on football? I mean, I bet on
a football all the time. I like to try to
win a little bit of money. But the difference is
I'm not involved. I'm not a participant. I'm not getting
how would you do that? Like my way to make
money in football is by betting on it. You know why?
Because I can't run, I can't catch, I can't tackle. Right, say, man,
(01:28:23):
I'm not killing myself. You know who else can't that?
Ninety eight percent of the moving world can't. Right, we're
talking about the highest athletes. I'm not one of them.
Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
You're right, DJ, I'm really knocking myself to say I'm
not one of the most highly tuned athletes on the planet.
Speaker 4 (01:28:36):
You're absolutely you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:28:38):
You still got a decent bank jump shot though. Look
you still got a decent little bank jumpy off the
back door cut on Venice Beach.
Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
I got a decent jump shot for a retired football player.
How about that?
Speaker 6 (01:28:49):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:28:49):
Because if we're talking about actual basketball, that's out the
window as well.
Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
But the old you know you watch the commercial breaks,
Oh my gosh, how can you not gamble if you
saw it on comer? First of all, NFL players are
watching NFL games on TV because they're playing in NFL games.
So the idea, how do they getting cascaded with commercials?
Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
That's one thing entirely. But I'm old enough to remember
when Budwiser it was the commercial.
Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
They were everywhere. It was everywhere, right, okay, it was
every sing it was every break. You wuld say why.
Speaker 3 (01:29:24):
I don't think they were allowing players to drink bud
light at halftime. I don't think players were in the
cold tub popping the champagne of beers, which is miller like,
but my point remains.
Speaker 4 (01:29:37):
Right the other day that Terry Tait off his linebacker.
Do you think that guys were walking around in meeting
rooms tackling each other. No, it's advertising. Just don't buy it,
just don't participate, and it's something entirely.
Speaker 3 (01:29:51):
Look, I have a little bit more sympathy for a
guy getting the duy quite honestly, but because the idea is, look,
uber exists, one hundred percent, got it good, But they're
there's a place where you can say, like, man, I'm
not pulling on eight, but you should just do it
across the board.
Speaker 4 (01:30:04):
Just tak an uber, right, So like, don't play the game.
You can bet on a different sports if you're in
the NFL, But where's the win you're going? First of all,
you're gonna lose money because you're not a winning better,
because like, if you were winning better, you live in
Vegas and you'd be winning betting. You know what I'm saying,
you're not a winning better. You're gonna hit sixty. There's
no chance you ain't over sixty percent across all sports,
(01:30:25):
which is what a winning better would do. Think about
that margin, sixty percent. That's what you have to bet
to make money. You gotta be sixty sixty five percent to.
Speaker 3 (01:30:34):
Actually profit, to actually make some brin to actually profit.
Speaker 4 (01:30:39):
If you're if you're a defensive end, you gotta make
a play in thirty percent of the game. You get
thirty percent, you get five sacks.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Guess what you're gonna be back about to say, yeah,
you'll be back, Yeah you're good, You're sure. Yeah, it's
just listen, man, I'm over this, I really am. It's
it's just when you solve that these players got caught again,
and it's just like even like Jamison Williams, it's like, bro,
come on you you just get back. You know, just
so much promise and now you gotta you gotta sit
the first six because you were saying you didn't know
(01:31:08):
or you know, or ah, what do you say, Uh,
an employee told him something or gave him bad information.
Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
It's just it's just, dude, there's don't.
Speaker 3 (01:31:17):
Gamble on football. Don't gamble on your sport. Don't You're
gonna get caught. Everybody gets I can't say that, and
I'm pretty sure there's people that haven't been caught yet,
because there's always someone that doesn't get caught, you know,
right away.
Speaker 4 (01:31:29):
But there's a.
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
Report out there that one player lost eight million dollars gambling. Wow,
and it's you know it's at NFL Dolph climbing, he's
got some of the but that's butt eight mil. I
have a lot of trouble believing that because, first of all,
like where like unless it's you're not betting eight million
dollars through legal books and nobody's nobody's catching wind of it,
Like it's not happening.
Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
I mean, he's breaking it up in a lot of
different bets probably, but that's.
Speaker 4 (01:31:53):
Even still Yeah, at the eight million freaking dollars, it's
a lot of he's got a gambling problem, you know,
if somebody is betting two hundred thousand on a game,
because it comes like at this point, you can't miss it.
Speaker 3 (01:32:05):
No, it'll be all over Twitter from Houston. Yeah, the
matches got from Houston. That's when Twitter existed. It was
all over Twitter. Now now it's all blown up, you know,
So who knows? Maybe not maybe not all the sneaking
stuff in Jonathan Jones who got arrested just not too
long ago from bringing guns through the airport. So he
may have an issue with rules or rules, but he
said quote in a Twitter post, read it, I understand
(01:32:28):
rules or rules, but I can risk my life so
my team wins, But I can't risk one K on
my team winning. Yes, exactly, exactly the point. But it's
not that you can't risk one K for your team winning.
The point is the.
Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
Salary, Jonathan. The point is the money. As Don Draper
said to Peggy Yolsen, that's what the money is for.
Not only that.
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
And Chris, Chris CP, if you're in there man jumping
because you made a comment once it's made three or
four months ago we were over in the old studio.
Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
You say you legitimately.
Speaker 3 (01:33:01):
Know people who think sports is really like you said,
I legitimately know people who think this stuff's rigged. And
stuff like this does not help it when people are
gambling on things, especially what the over under on your
team running back? Your running backs carries our yards or something.
Man like this just says it's bad for the brand
when you have stuff like this happening, and it's like, okay,
(01:33:24):
where you where.
Speaker 4 (01:33:24):
Do you come down? Do you kick them out of
the league forever?
Speaker 3 (01:33:28):
Do you just say okay, you can't come back and
play anymore, Because when you come back, who's to say
that you're not still doing it or figured out some
other way and how to how to get I think the.
Speaker 9 (01:33:37):
Problem is bigger than that. If you've got, you've got. Overnight,
we went from sports betting is legal offshore and in
the state of Nevada to everyone can do it in
most states on your phone. And now you're asking a
bunch of twenty some year olds who are hyper competitive,
and these guys get hyper competitive with money to to
lay off the wagering. Yeah, you're not going to convince
(01:33:57):
them that. I mean you can. You can tell them
as much you want, don't bet on the NFL, and
that one is very clear, But clearly this other rule isn't.
And like I don't know, all the other leagues apparently
have the same thing except that all the other leagues
apparently you are allowed to gamble on other sports but
not your own sports. So in NBA, NHL Baseball, that
(01:34:19):
rule is true. The NFL is the only one that
has this condition.
Speaker 4 (01:34:22):
You can battle other sports if you're an NFL player,
you just can't bet it work.
Speaker 9 (01:34:27):
Yeah, But I from what I'm again, like, I think
that's where in this first wave this is going to
be drilled into everyone. But this first wave this year,
a lot of these guys were just not given the
book from the NFL on this at this point.
Speaker 4 (01:34:40):
At this point, if you don't know the rules, that's
all you.
Speaker 9 (01:34:43):
Yeah, but I think all these bets are getting caught
for stuff they were doing like last year.
Speaker 3 (01:34:46):
Okay, And that's one thing I don't you know, I
have a little bit of an issue with that. I
kind of like, look I got away with it, you
know what I'm saying, Like it catch me now, Like
it's like right light, cameras, catch me now, catch me.
Speaker 4 (01:34:56):
If you can catch me now, you ain't.
Speaker 9 (01:34:58):
Catch me like old investigation coming home to roost for
the NFL. And that's where it's just kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:35:02):
But the Isaiah Rogers thing that was recent like, there's
these guys are really doing this in the moment and
it's just about as dumb as can possibly be. There
are rules and there are laws follow them.
Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
Just following Rogers that one, that one, I'm with you
on that that one was like crazy, brocause not only that,
a lot of these guys that are getting caught are
fringe to practice squad late roster play. Isaiah Rogers, he's
a starter. Like this guy's getting interceptions, he's changing games.
Speaker 9 (01:35:29):
Would have to take getting a big name. I had
this conversation with Chris Plank when he we were filling
on the Ben Mallor Show, and I think the conversation
we were trying to have is like this still doesn't
really even though we're up to like seven eight guys now,
this still doesn't feel like a huge story scandal for
the NFL, just because they don't have a big name
outside of James Jamison Williams.
Speaker 3 (01:35:48):
And that's just as right now, this is the thing
that's gonna This is the point of the last thing
we'll say on this before we go to break. Right now,
it's all indefinitely until I'm definitely up to undefinitely up
to six games Calvin Ridley a pitch you know, appealed,
I mean, you know, after you appeal to get back
into the league, was let back in pretty much right away.
(01:36:10):
I think what one ended up seeing is that's not
going to be happening in the same way because there's
not much history to it, and I won't bore people.
Nineteen forty seven, two guys took were accused of taking bribes.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
They were suspended. The only one of them ever played
another down in the NFL. They were just and they
were just the accusation, they didn't actually take them. And
so I think eventually we'll see some actual indefiniteness of
these indefinite.
Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
Respects gone forever, Yeah, go on forever. We'll be right back,
though we won't be going forever.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Martin and VJ be coming back with some of my
little baseball talk Fox Sports Radio, Martin and VJ coming
to you from the tire IRAQ dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
VJ.
Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
We saw something we rarely ever see in professional sports,
especially these days, a perfect game Domingo Herman from the
Yankees perfect game against the which I mean, just listening
to one of Steve the Sagger's updates about how many
few how few runs they've scored in comparison to the
rest of the league.
Speaker 4 (01:37:08):
And you know, we've got the Detroit Tigers on right now.
That's a whole different story. But anyway, twenty fourth perfect
game in Major League history.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
Almost every time I see this, I'm reminded of Andres Galarraga,
who could have had a perfect game and Jim Joyce
blew the call, and that just had to be depressing
and just disheartening moments, especially because.
Speaker 4 (01:37:28):
You think about how few of these there are in history.
Do you know how many no hitters have been in history? Uh? No, No,
over three hundred at the top.
Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
Okay, so think about that in comparison, twenty four perfect games,
over three hundred no hitters. But the last perfect game
is like what twenty fourteen, I believe the last perfect
game that was thrown. Yeah, so it doesn't happen often,
only twenty four of them. And you know what, and
I didn't see this, I you know, came across my
phone and came across my iPad and then I opened
(01:37:55):
it up. So, oh man, somebody oh that that the
Yankees pitcher threw a perfect game and went looked at
the lights and stuff. But you know why this happened
because nobody tweeted about it, nobody talked about it, nobody
ruined the moment.
Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
And also too, that's just fundamentally not true. Yes, so
yeah it is. We gotta stop with this.
Speaker 3 (01:38:12):
I guess sometimes you miss things that happened, But just
because you miss it doesn't mean it didn't happen, because
I saw the last four innings of this, and I
promise you when I started my day that day, I
was not thinking that I was be tuned in to
Yankees and A's I know, but did you did you?
Did you jinx it by saying, oh man, he's got
a per He's gone. Whoever jinxed it on my timeline
at the time said yo, Domingo's perfect through six, Then
(01:38:36):
I wouldn't watch seven, eight and nine.
Speaker 4 (01:38:38):
That's the way I was aware of it. If it
was by yours type of scenario and definition, nobody would
still know it happened because Domingo hasn't pissed.
Speaker 9 (01:38:46):
Everyone's next time out these days on social media, social
media just barely counts for any kind of jinks.
Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
I mean, there we go, thank you, thank you, Chris.
Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
So barely counts on social media but I thought this
was cool, man, It's just funny. It was against the
Oakland A's. You know, it's the bottom dweller team in
the league.
Speaker 6 (01:39:02):
Barely counts, I know, right.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
And Bow and I were looking at the game in
the engineer room before we came on aired and caught
a glimpse of the stands there at the game.
Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
Oh god, that looks like the early scenes of the
games for the Cleveland Indians in Major League.
Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
There is like literally nobody at these games for them.
So if you were on the run from the police,
a great place to go. It'd beat Oka Cola.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
So who do you guys.
Speaker 6 (01:39:26):
Think faced a more intimidating lineup in their perfect game?
Addie Joss of the Cleveland Naps in nineteen oh eight
or Domingo Herman in the twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:39:37):
Tony Camp wasn't bat in third back in a way? Okay,
that's all I got this.
Speaker 9 (01:39:41):
I was shocked at first, there's been like eleven years
since the last perfect game. But then me and Bow
were going through the records, like over half the perfect
games in history where took place between nineteen ninety two
and twenty twelve, and there were three in twenty twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
And but and to that point though, when you go
over half, the other twelve start from like eighteen hundred on.
Speaker 4 (01:40:01):
Yeah, you know, cy Young, I think it was nineteen
oh one.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
When I looked it up to I just I was
I was amazed at how spread out they are through
the through the history of baseball. But this was I
thought that was a cool moment. Man, Perfect games are
always great. It just got my mind going, like, man,
what's the equivalent to a perfect game? Is a perfect
game the single best? What individual fees in all of sports?
Speaker 4 (01:40:25):
Nothing? Not even Wilt's one hundred point game.
Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
No, I don't think so, okay.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
I was just trying to put it together, like, okay, God.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
The only thing I could think that would like even
qualify to be close is like when a quarterback goes
you know, he has like ninety five percent completion rating,
But generally when that's the case, it's for like two
hundred yards because it's checked down, checkdown.
Speaker 6 (01:40:47):
That's just so much that has to go right to
throw a perfect game, exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:40:50):
Yeah. Oh, everybody's got to do their job. No one
can make a mistake, nobody.
Speaker 6 (01:40:54):
And then on top of that too, like the pitching
is the hardest job I think in sports, and you
have to do that perfectly.
Speaker 9 (01:41:00):
Yeah, like it's just and you're also at the mercy
of your fielders too.
Speaker 3 (01:41:04):
That's what I mean, like all like all fielders, all,
like everybody on the field for you, that night has
to be perfect.
Speaker 4 (01:41:10):
It's a perfect game is not just the picture. A
perfect game is the entire defense.
Speaker 6 (01:41:15):
Clayton. Clayton Kershaw's no hitter could have been a perfect game.
Speaker 3 (01:41:18):
If Hanley I wanted to say the babble, Yeah, the
bobble at first, Yeah that's true. Yeah, Kershaw could have
had a perfect game. But I think it's a great feed.
But like I said, my mind started to go to
what's equivalent to this do? I looked at racing, I
looked at uh, you know, I thought whole hold on
one was the first thing that popped in my mind.
And it's like, h maybe we saw hold in one
at the Open. It happened exactly, just exactly. I was
(01:41:40):
about to say, there was just a hole on one.
Speaker 9 (01:41:41):
Three of them actually make a perfect game. It was
like an eighty yard part three at the open. Perfect
game would be like four whole hold on ones in
a Row.
Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
I think you'd have to.
Speaker 9 (01:41:51):
You would have to for something like golf, you'd have
to be getting like ridiculous stroke counts over the course
of like every major or something.
Speaker 4 (01:41:58):
And you know, things went well and too, there was
some rain delays, there was some delays, and Oakland's picture
got hurt. So it was things that were throwing off
the rhythm of the game. And Domingo was able to
stay locked in, So kudos to him. So you know
said that makes it more impressive to you. Well, it's
just to the point of a perfect game is hard.
Different things occurred throughout the course of the game, Like
maybe if Oaklands pitcher doesn't get hurt, he gets a
(01:42:20):
third out. Now Dominico to get ten minutes arrest.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Yeah, you know what I'm saying, to go out there,
and you know, it's all these different things that are
variables in play that make a perfect game something really special.
But yeah, it would have to be something along the
lines of a quarterback going thirty six for thirty six
for four hundred and seventy five yards, you know what
I'm saying, or like somebody going twenty for twenty from
the floor in the NBA is Wilson hundred the closest
(01:42:43):
thing you guys can come up with them. Will Wilson
hundred be.
Speaker 9 (01:42:46):
The closest comparably, I'd have to get some details with
the closest thing I can think maybe for me looking
at football in the modern era is do you remember when?
And again, this is harder because football is a team's sport.
We just boil it down to the quarterback all the time,
which is ridiculous. But what Andrew Luck did in that
one playoff game against the Chiefs, the Chiefs in the
wild card round, coming back that far down in that
(01:43:08):
short period of time, Like you'd have to put something
together like that, like a two minute drill that overcomes
like twenty one points or something.
Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
Well, let's get Steve the Seger's opinion on this. If
he gives a dog on and the rest of the
world of sports. Let's see what's going on. Steve, how
do you think about a perfect game?
Speaker 8 (01:43:22):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:43:23):
Phenomenal?
Speaker 10 (01:43:24):
And you know, unless you're going with like some Michael
Phelps racer you seen Bolt race, it's individual performance that
nobody on the planet can match. The best pitched game
I might have ever seen on TV was when Carrie
Wood struck out twenty and it was almost a rained
out game at Wrigley Field that day. Nobody was touching him.
The curve ball was truly phenomenal. But if there hadn't
(01:43:45):
been a botch from the shortstop in the Kershaw no hitter,
to have a fifteen strikeout game in a perfect game,
that would have been truly phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal. I looked
up the pitch counts and other perfect games, like Randy
Johnson almost one hundred and twenty pitches in his, David
Wells one hundred and twenty pitches in his, and this
guy for the Yankees this week taminga Hermann ninety nine
(01:44:09):
pitches which.
Speaker 4 (01:44:09):
Was the key and nine strike. You wouldn't get the
one twenty these days at a polo.
Speaker 10 (01:44:13):
No, absolutely none. Matt Cain one hundred and twenty five
pitches in his perfect game with the Giants about a
decade ago.
Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
So twenty to twenty five more pitches for those guys. Yeah,
over Herman.
Speaker 10 (01:44:24):
We've got Dodgers on Fox TV for much of the
country right now, and the pitcher just off the injured list,
Julio Arius, gave up five runs in the first inning
at Kansas City. It's now Royals five to three over
the Dodgers. In the bottom of the second, Guardians at
Cubs in a long rain delay over two hours worth.
They're hoping to begin in about a half an hour
in Chicago. That'll be on Fox TV for part of
(01:44:45):
the country and the rest getting the Mariners home game.
They're up six to two on Tampa Bay now, top
of the eighth inning, Ray's pitcher Shane McClanahan, an All
Star last summer eleven and one. This year, he goes
on the injured list with back tightness. Tigers at Rocky Gorless,
bottom of the second. Yankees at Saint Louis. Was rained
out last night, so they had a doubleheader today. A
couple of rain delays during Game one. Eventually they finished
(01:45:08):
at Saint Louis eleven to four over New York to
the fourth inning of the nightcap, Yankees leading three to
two at Saint Louis and in a half an hour
the nightcap. On the schedule, the Angels and show, Hey,
Otani not pitching tonight, just hitting.
Speaker 4 (01:45:22):
That's enough.
Speaker 10 (01:45:22):
Angels hosting Arizona. I don't know if you saw last night.
Otani not only hit his thirtieth home run. That's fifteen
home runs for the month of June to finish that part.
Speaker 4 (01:45:31):
Of the calendar. He's hot right now.
Speaker 10 (01:45:33):
Just ridiculous what he's been doing. And that was the
longest home run he's hit since he came over here.
I'm the longest home run by any batter in the
majors this year, almost five hundred feet. Last night, Oakland,
on an error, won in ten innings against the White
Sox seven to six. They'll take the assistance, thank you.
The A's record was twenty two and sixty two coming
into this game. The A's tied it up against the
(01:45:55):
White Sox today with two runs in the bottom of
the eighth on a bock and an infield single. Attendance
was nine thousand in the East Bay, Minnesota and Texas
got wins Mets and Philadelphia as well. Phillies nineteen to
four over Washington. Braves won their seventh in a row.
Milwaukee and San Diego with wins. Boston held on for
a seven to sixth victory at Toronto. Tampa Bay's Randy A.
(01:46:17):
Ros Arena will be in the Home Run Derby this month.
Portland Trailblazers guard Damian Lillard requested a trade. The Hornets
will give guard LaMelo Ball a five year extension. The
Lakers resign D'angela, Russell and Austin Rees. The Clippers resigned
Russell Westbrook one year plus a player option.
Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
Back to you, thanks Steve Martin and VJ. Coming with
you off from a tirack dot com studios. Let's get
my guy in here.
Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Demarjay Morris, MLB bro content reporter and my friend happy
dog on birthday to you thirty two today.
Speaker 4 (01:46:50):
No Tomor's there.
Speaker 8 (01:46:54):
Yeah, yeah, thank you, thank you, appreciating.
Speaker 3 (01:46:56):
Got you, got you, no doubt ya. I got you,
loud and clear. Now let's get this thing started. We
just talked about it for the last segment.
Speaker 4 (01:47:03):
Domingo Orman ninety nine pitches perfect Game in Oakland. It's
been a few fun things that happened in Oakland this year.
Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
The perfect game, the first, and then the second, and
the second and then the first, the fan boycott, the
reverse boycott.
Speaker 4 (01:47:15):
Out of Oakland. But just perfect game twenty fourth in history?
What are your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (01:47:21):
History?
Speaker 8 (01:47:22):
Like you said, history is only the twenty fourth. I
got a little ranking of y'all on mine. I got
a little ranking of my favorite perfect games.
Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
Let's do it.
Speaker 8 (01:47:30):
Happened that have happened in.
Speaker 4 (01:47:31):
The over the years.
Speaker 8 (01:47:32):
So I got to start off with my with my man.
Mike Witt born in my hometown of Fullets in California,
pitched for the great Anaheim Angels, the California Angels at
the time, and through the eleventh no hitter in MLB
history against no other than the Texas Rangers, only needed
ninety four.
Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
You know what, don't start, Nah, keep going. You're off
to a great star. Pa.
Speaker 8 (01:47:56):
I'm just letting the people know. Shrunk out Chi His
no hitter was only five thrown on the last day
of the regular season. Number four got to go with
Sandy Kofax against the Cubs to one hundred and thirteen pitches,
fourteen k's, the most k's in a perfect game, first
left handed pitcher and first pitcher to throw perfect game
(01:48:16):
at night.
Speaker 5 (01:48:17):
Which is pretty dope.
Speaker 8 (01:48:18):
I thought that was an interesting little stat, little tipit.
And then Lynn Barker, he was a dog, never reached
ball three against any hitter. When he went against the
Blue Jays when he threw his perfect game, struck out eleven,
all of them swinging, struck out seven of the last eleven.
So got to get some love to Lynn Barker and
then David Wells against the Twins through one hundred and
twenty pitches in eleven k's and I got to throw
(01:48:40):
them up there number two because he was hungover. I mean,
come on, that's the press, not a partying you able
to lock in and give me a perfect game. I
gotta have him at number two. And then number one,
Dallas Brady and shout out to Dallas Brady much love.
You can never forget that one. Super memorable. On Mother's Day,
his mother passed away of cancer when he was younger.
His grandma mother raised them. She was in attendance for
(01:49:02):
the for the perfect game, so that that definitely touches
a special part of my heart. So that's number one
for sure. That's my favorite favorite five perfect games.
Speaker 4 (01:49:11):
Listen, man, good, listen there, man.
Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
But we've been talking off the record and stuff, having
grown man conversations, talking about being dad's our kids, and
you come on here and you immediately take a shot
at my Rangers. I text you the questions last night
and you're like you and them damn Rangers. So you
know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna leader Rangers alone
right now because we won five to two today and
got a five game lead right now, fifty wins going
into the All Star break.
Speaker 4 (01:49:31):
I want to talk to you, though everybody knows about show.
Speaker 3 (01:49:35):
Hey, Tani and the greatest thive to say, it was
just sitting here giving us another update. Longest home run
almost five hundred feet last night. We know what he's doing.
But there's a gentleman that I think we forgot about
and I love him. I love him to death, and
that's Mookie Bets. Twenty two home runs fifth in the league,
fifty five RBIs tenth in the league, nine twenty three
ops seventh in the league, batt in two seventy.
Speaker 4 (01:49:56):
I think he's still the second best player in Do
you agree with that?
Speaker 3 (01:50:01):
And how is it that we've just kind of kind
of forgotten about how great Mookie Betts is and what
he's doing for the Dodgers this year.
Speaker 8 (01:50:10):
I think it's because we're so accustomed to the Dodgers
being successful and just being being there at the end
of the season, so I think we kind of just expected,
we expect this from Mookie.
Speaker 5 (01:50:19):
This is what he does. But I do agree with you.
Speaker 8 (01:50:21):
I do think he has to be considered the second
best player in the league right now. And I think
he reminded people of that when he showed his ability
to play multiple positions when they were plugging him in shortstop,
second base, you know, when he was filling right now,
you know. And best leadoff hitter in the game, one
of the best hitters in the game. So yeah, definitely,
(01:50:42):
and also.
Speaker 3 (01:50:42):
Speaking of the leadoff nine leadoff home runs that leads
the majors this year also too, so just another tip
of the cap for mookie bats.
Speaker 4 (01:50:52):
Damar ja, my bad, I didn't mean anyssault. You like that.
It's July first, right, it's July first.
Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
Last season, three of the sixth division leaders on July
first won their division.
Speaker 4 (01:51:05):
That would be the Yankees and the Astros and the Dodgers.
Now the three that missed it, the Twins missed they
were leading in July first, and Al Central and the
Mets and the Brewers missed. What team right now a
top their division? Tomar Jay misses the playoffs. Trey Lightley
(01:51:25):
ooh uh, I would.
Speaker 8 (01:51:30):
Have to say Minnesota, okay, okay, yeah, yeah, that's a
tough onero. I'd have to sit Minnesota, though I think
Cleveland end up passing them. That's that's a yeah. The
Braves definitely ain't. Cincinnati could, but Milwaukee they haven't shown
me much. They gotta get going. I think they I
told you guys a couple weeks ago, they should have
been took ahold of that division. I feel like unless
(01:51:51):
Cincinnatti got hired and crept up on him. So that's
gonna be tough. And Dodgers and Diamondbacks, I think I
think Diamondbacks hold onto that. So yeah, I have to
go to Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (01:52:01):
So so you're saying, let me get this right.
Speaker 2 (01:52:03):
You're saying that riding on the whiteboard, let the season
begin on July first? Probably, is it gonna erase the
forty or so games that you've already played? Are the
eighty or so games you already played?
Speaker 7 (01:52:17):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:52:18):
Yeah, I don't know if I don't know if you
saw that, but it was this. I don't know if
you saw his VJ.
Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
Rock Obaldelli, the manager of the Twins road on the
white board, let the season begin, because they've been so
bad to start there, so up and down they're like,
we're gonna erase it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
All start over it's almost they all start break. We
could turn it on the second half. I also don't
think that it's gonna work out, but the Marja Moores
always works out for us.
Speaker 11 (01:52:40):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (01:52:41):
Appreciate you coming on the show. Appreciate your insight. And again,

see of James Harden, Now you know I'm a week
older than James Harden.
Speaker 4 (01:54:38):
That was where a week at a part and age.
He is living the life I wish I could live
so much. When you look at these videos of him
out in the world, that.
Speaker 3 (01:54:51):
Is exactly what my thirty three year old self wants
to be doing right now and investing.
Speaker 4 (01:54:56):
Around open up a go yard trunk when a couple
hundred thousand dollars was here and there to go do
whatever whatever the hell I want.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
What this video was from is this was a gift
from the baby on his birthday. They were going out
that night and that was his gift to him, was
the bag with the money in it. And they were
on their way out to a popular strip club and
this was this videos from memory serves me correctly. This
was at the time in which he was petitioning Houston
to leave to go to Brooklyn, yep, and everybody was
(01:55:24):
crushing them. And he had this picture of him and
the bucket hat with the go yard trunk, and I
tweeted it at the time. I said, you know what, man,
I get it that everybody's crushing James Harden, but look
how much funn he's having. You know what, I'm saying like, look,
how much fun like are you want to talk about
Lebron like Lebron's on vacation, posting like hey Michael Malone,
(01:55:45):

hard they worried about that. James Harden is.
Speaker 4 (01:55:51):
Like, hey, little baby, let's go get busy. And he's
having a whale of a time. There are always athletes
that I think we look at it, we go god, man,
that's that's the life right there.
Speaker 3 (01:56:03):
Man, that's the life right there. For me, it would
be Christiano Ronaldo. Whenever you see that guy out in
about or out on his yacht out in Centro Pay
in the Mediterranean, the the eighty million dollar yacht he's on. Man,
he looks like Christiano Ronaldo always looks like he's having
a good He's always got a beautiful lady with him.
(01:56:24):
He's always, you know, when he's on his yacht or
boat of stuff. Guy looks good. Guy's ten guys living
life like befoot having fun. His hair's too his hair
is too standard. It's always the same.
Speaker 4 (01:56:35):
