I will just say this, as they say in Dion Sanders, Minnesota,
it's gonna be lit. Hold that thought. Yes, Colorado not
(00:47):
only won again today, but they made history again today.
They did something that hasn't been done in thirty four years.
I will tell you that. I will tell you what
that what that? Let's see. Let me try that in
less clinky English. I will reveal what Colorado did today
to make history something going back thirty four years at
(01:11):
the end of the first hour. How's that? How's that
for a bit of a tease. But let me start
here for the twenty third time in the last ten years,
Texas is back now the question is can they stay there.
They went into Alabama today and Bama had won twenty
one straight home games. Not only that, sixteen and five
(01:34):
against the spread in those twenty one games. But Texas
beat Alabama. I've got some takeaways from that game, which
I'm going to get to here in a second. But look,
there actually really was a time when Texas sort of
ruled the roost. They really did. They had a legendary coach,
Fred Acres, who was there for about eleven years in
(01:55):
the mid seventies, early seventies of the mid eighties, and
they the state. They owned every He got a call
from one of the academic advisors and said, coach, do
you realize that your star quarterback is getting four fs
and one d. How do you feel about that? He said,
I think he's spending entirely too much time on one subject.
(02:17):
Oh yeah, he was starting the following Saturday. That's what
Texas football used to be. Well, I'm not saying they
can't get back to that. They still got to prove
it to me, But today they went a long way
and perhaps beginning to prove it. It started out as
a bit of a back and forth thriller, but the
Longhorns ended up prevailing both sides through their share of haymakers,
(02:40):
a bit of a heavyweight match, and you can say
it was a situation where maybe, you know what, maybe
Alabama's just not that good. It's all relative. They're great,
but they're not great like Alabama great. I think you
can still see them go ten and two this year
something along that line. But look, they don't have Jalen
Hurts anymore. They have Jalen Milroe and Jalen Milroll's corner
(03:01):
until today, he's limited. Now I get it. Alabama's offensive
line didn't exactly give him clean pockets and clean snaps.
Oh did I just say Alabama's offensive line might be
that good. Yeah, well maybe they're not. Those concerns were real.
Texas pushed him around, but that caused mill Rolls ball
security to show he's really not a major league quarterback
(03:24):
at that level. Through a parabat picks didn't even recognize
the defender sitting in coverage. A week after becoming the
first Alabama quarterback to have three passing touchdowns and two
rushing touchdowns in the same game, well, he realized that
was against Middle Tennessee. This second takeaway Steve Sarkisian actually
(03:46):
made that Bama defense look mortal. So now we're talking
about Jalen Milroll the quarterback, we're talking about Bama's offensive line,
now we're talking about Alabama's defense. Was this Steve's Arkissian masterful.
He dialed up looks all night that got people open,
schemed in the ground game. He was one step ahead
(04:06):
of Alabama most of the game. And oh, by the way,
he was a former offensive coordinator in Alabama. He kept
the tied defense absolutely on their heels. You don't believe me.
Texas had six plays of thirty plus yards in the game.
Five came in the second half when the game was
being decided. Quinn Yours, You know what, he played the
(04:27):
game of his life. Three hundred and forty nine passing yards,
three touchdown passes. And what about that Alabama defensive line.
They didn't sack Yours once, not once. Alabama hadn't allowed
that many points of the game since last year's lost
in Knoxville. In the second half, it felt like the
Tennessee lost all over again. An elite schemer. A schemer
(04:52):
got the best of Nick Saban once again. The third
takeaway this game has a chance of maybe being stored
in this situation. There's no more impressive win than when
you go down to Alabama and win there. That's just
a fact. The first time the Tide lost at home,
well since twenty nineteen. The last game they lost at
(05:13):
home was to LSU and some guy named Joe Burrow
who has about two hundred and sixty million reasons to
be happy. They take the field Sunday against Cleveland, but
that's for later in the show. So they in the
longest home winning streak of the nation twenty one, which
I just said, and up until then, Bama's lone lost
since the started the twenty sixth season. All right. It
(05:36):
was the first time Bama lost a game in non
conference play since they lost to Louisiana Monroe about a
year before Obama was elected. That's how long it was.
This might have been an historic game today. Also the
first time Saban lost to one of his former coaches
in a home game. By the way, on the Texas side,
(05:57):
you saw this on the graphic the tea they put
on the TV. Longhorn's first win against an AP Top
five team since twenty ten, their first win against Alabama
in forty one years, their first win against the top
three AP team on the road since Yes Nixon was president.
So it's Texas back. I don't know, see me in
a few weeks. Is the Alabama dynasty done? I don't know. Man,
(06:22):
it looks like it's got one foot on a grave
and the other around a banana pel. All right, let's
get to Colorado. I tried to tell everybody thirty seven
times from Tuesday last night. Now, I'm not gonna sit
here and take credit that I laid the buffs minus three.
I stayed off of the game. But I stayed off
of the game because there was no way I could
(06:43):
make a case, No way I could make a case
for Nebraska. After signing the Jeff Simms threw from one
hundred and forty three yards check that, one hundred and
fourteen yards and three picks against Minnesota the week before,
poor young Man's put about seven quarters of football seven turnover.
Had a really rough day through four hundred and six
yards against Colorado. So it's time to look at Colorado
(07:07):
more objectively because I've watched them very closely, both games,
replayed both games, and I have four simple observations which
everybody should be able to see right now. Number one,
Colorado has the best player in the country in Travis Hunter.
Don't act like he's not. One hundred and twenty snaps today,
(07:28):
one hundred and forty five last week, never comes off
the field. He can beat you on offense, he can
beat you on defense. Reminds me very much of Charles Woodson.
I covered that Michigan team in nineteen ninety seven. We'll
see where Colorado goes. Oh, by the way, remember why
I told you last summer that big newon kickoff would
go to Colorado three weeks in a row. Yeah, no,
I didn't. They are they called an audible. They're gonna
(07:49):
be Colorado, Colorado State, and you're gonna be watching. That's
why they're there. Colorado's got the best player in the
country in Travis Hunter. Period Number two, they've got a
quarter back who will be a first round draft pick
in the National Football League. Mark my words, this kid
can absolutely play. There's no debate about what Shudor Sanders
(08:11):
can do. He sees the field, he's got excellent footwork,
tremendous mechanics. I love his decision making. His arm is accuracy,
makes the right decision, throws an incredibly catchable ball. The
moment is not too big for him. He combines, He
checks every box justin fields. Watchdor Sanders, Watch de Door Sanders.
(08:33):
We're gonna get to that later in the show because
it's an NFL Sunday. But I gotta give Colorado their flowers.
This is so much fun. This may be the biggest
story in sports, not just football. Number three, Dion is
a CEO. He's assembled a great coaching staff, a great
coaching staff. That offense is explosive. Last week they had
(08:53):
twelve plays of more than twenty yards, five of more
than thirty. Come on, man, Sean Lewis is a beast.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Will be here.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Learn more about him. I'll get I don't need to
get too grandular. He's the offensive coordinator. But it's not
just Sean Lewis. He is a symbol a phenomenal coaching staff.
This team is extremely well coached. Everything they do. By
the way, did you see Alabama's tackling today? Brutal? What
the hell's going on there? Like Lombardi used to say,
(09:21):
what's going on here? Nobody's tackling. Everybody's grabbing. They were grabbing.
They were just trying to slam you. Even in high school,
we're taught why do you tackle to stop? Forward to progress?
Bam was playing like bumper car. You're slamming into guys
or Texas's running backs are bouncing off and getting ten
more yards. That was brutal to watch for a Nick
Saban coach team. Guess what Colorado tackles really well? They
(09:42):
filled their gaps well, great gap integrity, great coaching staff
number four. This was obvious to me. Go back as
you can find it. Just watch the TCU game, the
opening kickoff when Colorado won the toss and elected to defer. Okay,
why that important? Because they had to kick off and
they had to cover the kick. I've watched it nine times.
(10:03):
Watch these guys run their lanes. I will never forget
that first impression. I happened to be in Texas watching
the game. I was not at the game. I said him,
I said, oh my god, these guys got speed up
the took us. They got a bunch of fast football players,
like eighty of them. These guys are fast. They covered
that kick well. Guess what Colorado does have ridiculous team
(10:24):
speed on both sides of the ball and on special teams.
So it should come as no surprise that Colorado was
able to take advantage of Nebraska's struggles struggles today three
times to snap in and in the fumble. Two of
the times they in and in the hands of the
Buffalo of the Colorado Buffs. Fourth quarter happened a game
with the fumble on a handoff. Quarterback for Nebraska, Jeff
(10:46):
Simms was credited with to of the fumbles, also threw
a terrible first half pick. Colorado led thirteen ZIP at
the half, ten of those points game via turnover. You
could see Nebraska handing in the game. I'm not saying
that I'm seeing Colorado took the game because it's one
thing to be there at the right place at the
right time. It's the second thing to take advantage of it.
Colorado's defense does get credit for limiting Nebraska all day
(11:10):
except for one long TD run. But the Cornhuskers, I
get it. They created a lot of their own issues.
Shador Sanders, I'm gonna say it for one hundredth time
he was a high level recruit. He was now showing
it on the biggest stage. Live arms for provacacy, makes
through after throw, often in the tight windows, seize the field.
That's the thing that boils me away. You can see
(11:32):
him making his progressions. He's poised, tremendous. I tell you, man,
I can't say enough good things and thinks about him.
By the way, if Alabama could trade for Shador Sanders,
they probably would have won today. Conversation for a different day.
There is one thing, though, we have to be honest.
We're still learning what this Colorado team is. Nebraska's defense
(11:54):
did provide a better test than TCUs did, and for
a while they kind of slowed the Buffs down. But
once the Buffs found their footing, uh oh, look out,
all right, but you open up against two teams. I
don't know how good TCU or Nebraska is. I think
Nebraska is a dumpster fire. So it's hard to say
with really knowing how exactly good Colorado is. There'll be
(12:18):
a big favorite against Colorado State next week in state rival.
Be careful. Then you're gonna play Oregon and USC see
me in three weeks. I don't care what happens next
three weeks. Dean's already won the year, and guys like
Travis Hunter and Tafars Dawson and Jimmy Horn Junior, Dylan Edwards.
Oh yeah, they're Sanders. They're becoming household names. As we
go forward, how will Colorado do. It's gonna depend on
(12:40):
their death and when they play more balanced teams that
don't commit self inflicted wounds like Nebraska did. We're gonna
learn a lot more, but for now, Colorado is all
that in a bag of chips. See I just channeled
nineteen eighty nine. At the end of your first year,

through a fire hose of knowledge. Yes, it's that time.
It's the Phasik five.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
The time is not, it's the Physick five. These are
the five things you need to hear about now with
the only back to back Hilton Super Contest winner Steve Zick,
Here's Bernie freddo Well Fez.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
For some folks, the seven months flew by. For others
it was dredgery. But the NFL is in fact back,
and we dive right in. And one of the favorite
betting opportunities for folks are teasers. But it's a double
edged sword. And why don't we start there, Fez. I'm
(14:38):
not particularly a fan of teasers, and I am sure
you'll tell the folks why.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
So basic strategy, just don't tease. If you're a novice
or recreational better you won't win. Now that's not saying
you can't win, but there are certain teasers that are
especially atrocious, and I'm going to go through the five
of them. Number one, college foot college football is just
two variable seven point favorites like Alabama loose all the time.
(15:06):
So Bernie, don't be teasing any college football games.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
That's such a great point because year to year the
lines vary and the key to a teaser and you
need two outcomes is you want to cross through. The
number of key numbers are three, four, six, and seven
every time, and that's where people get into trouble. College
does not offer you the same mat fair, faes fair
and let's.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Go rules two and three same by the same token,
don't tease totals in the NFL because it just doesn't
land enough to justify that fact. You've got to get
two bets right instead of one. Moving on to the
number three to one. The biggest mistake teaser that people
play in the NFL is they love to tease a
five and a half or a six point teaser and
they say that that team just has to win the
(15:50):
problem with that is that there's no reason to tease it.
You can play the money line. Example, like the Vikings
are five point team game against Tampa Bay tomorrow, so
the money line on the Vikings is a very cheap
minus two twenty five. Why would you tease it when
you're effectively laying minus two eighty per leg when you
can lay them you know, mius two twenties. So don't
(16:10):
ever tease a six point favorite.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
See that's a great point. And you still if you're
to tease the Vikings to somebody else, not only is
your map mount working for you're going to still need
that second outcome. You're going to pay premium anyway.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Exactly right. Rule number four, check your teaser rules at
your book. You know, the books for years and years
actually got beat by the pros on teasers, playing what
you are calling the long teasers. Actually no, Stanford Long
as a friend of mine, but that was playing at
minus one ten, and the latest odds have been minus
one twenty. Some books now are at minus one thirty
(16:45):
south point circa, et cetera. Here in Vegas. God can't
win laying minus one thirty on a six point NFL teaser.
If that's the odds that your book has, you just
simply cannot play them or recognize you're playing it for
recreational purposes.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Only outstanding, And I'm glad you invoke Wong teasers. We
talk about this every year, fast layout for the folks
to find so they understand what a long Wong Wong
teaser is.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
And we are drinking through a fire hose. So write
this down if you don't get it all. Stanford Wong
Sharp Sports Betting. He has an entire chapter on this,
and even though it's twenty years old, it's still applicable.
But you're teasing any underdog that's catching two points up
to eight within a half a point, so any underdog
plus one a half, plus two or plus two and
a half. The math here is that you're teasing through
(17:36):
the three and through the seven, and you're also getting
those good numbers of four and six. So you're teasing
through the corridor three through seven going up with a dog,
or you can tease down through that same corridor with
the favorite. So you take a It has to be
a home favorite, so a home favorite of an eight
of eight points down to two would apply. So what
dogs apply this week that you can play? If you
(17:58):
have a minus one twenty shop, well, you certainly can
tease Cleveland from plus two up to plus eight. You
can go ahead and tease the Pittsburgh Steelers from plus
two up to plus eight both qualify. The Green Bay
Packers from plus one and a half up to plus
seven and a half, you got to get them to
seven a half, not just to seven. All three of
those apply, and Monday Night Football certainly the New York
(18:22):
Jets from plus two and a half to plus eight
and a half. There's four teams you can mix and
match playing two team teasers if you will.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Bernie and Fez, I'm so glad you skipped over Dallas,
New York because I see where the Cowboys are laying
three three and a half and a lot of people
would make the mistake and teasing that up through six
and seven. That doesn't count as part of long teasers
now full discloser, Fez, typically I may play one teaser
a week, and I can't lie. I've taken a very
(18:50):
hard look at Pittsburgh teasing them up as a two
point home dog. So the Jets on Monday Night. Now,
it's my belief you can't win over the long haul
betting long t because you're probably gonna lay minus one
forty and you'd have to go about seventy seven percent
just to break even. But what do you feel about
that teaser I just mentioned? Would you make an exception
(19:11):
Pittsburgh plus the points to the Jets plus the points?
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Oh? Absolutely. So let me be clear. I laid out
all the things you can't do, but it's wong teaser
is still profitable at minus one twenty, and there are
still books Draftking, book Maker, Caesar's Palace here in Vegas
that allow that at minus one twenty. And you will
win if you play only the Wong teasers like you outlined,
and your teaser certainly applies, so I fully endorse it.
(19:37):
You just won't win laying minus a dollar forty. So
think about the difference in twenty sets doesn't sound that much.
Imagine if I walked up the window I wanted to
make a bet on the games tomorrow, and you said,
instead of laying minus one ten, you're going to charge
me minus one thirty. You cuss me out as a
book maker. Yet somehow they can get away with it
when booking teasers.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
So also to clarify, so people understand, if you're playing
a six point teaser, you can probably shop around minus
one twenty. But if you're playing a seven point teaser,
you're probably gonna pay closer to one forty. Is that correct?
Speaker 4 (20:09):
That is correct, and you actually can play that for
teams like Baltimore is a nine and a half point favorite.
We would never tease Baltimore down to three and a
half because we're not going through the three.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
So if you do.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Tease Baltimore, and I'd be fine with it. If you
want to do this and put them in a seven
point teaser minus one forty and get them down to
minus two and a half, that is aok, Bernie, I
actually think that's an advantage.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Play one other thing about teasers before we get to
some games to break down Faz, you mentioned teasing totals.
Give the folks your master class and why that's such
a bad idea, because I don't care how long I live,
people are still going to do it. I see people
going on TV saying, Hey, tease the Lions total from
(20:50):
fifty four down to forty seven. It'll easily go over that.
Come on, now, tell the folks why you don't tease totals.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Because when you're teasing, you got to get your playwright
seventy five percent of the time right instead of fifty
two percent right. So you got to basically pick up
an extra twenty four percent in terms of your chance
of winning well a six point corridor in a total
like you mentioned on that Monday night game. On a
total fifty three, it's not going to land forty seven
to fifty three twenty five percent of the time. It's
(21:18):
just too variable. You look at that game at lands
forty one, Bernia could have landed sixty one. Also, I
mean if they would have just caught some of the
passes on the wide receivers and the like, and then
again if there wasn't a pick six, it could have
landed thirty five. It's too volatile, too variable. You don't
want volatility in variance when you bet teasers. You want
things to be very close to the vest and land
(21:39):
right around the number, which they do on sites much
more than totals.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Seventy three million Americans will be placing bets on the
NFL this year. You do not miss this segment the
Physik five every Saturday night during the NFL. We're not done, well,
go over our rapid fire Lightning round with some select
games with fas. But first let's go to our guy
Kevin with the latest.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
Busy day of college football On Saturday, Week two, we
had an upset Number eleven Texas taking down the Crimson
Hide in Tuscaloosa, beating Number three Alabama thirty four to
twenty four. They got touchdowns on three straight drives in
that pivotal fourth quarter. Number six usc demolished the stand
for fifty six to ten that game, just going final.
(22:23):
Number nine Tennessee had an easy one with Austin p
thirty to thirteen, although they eat it off to a
slow start. Six to six was the score late in
the first half. Notre Dame their first true real test
of the season. They demolished Navy and Tennessee State. They
went on the road to NC State and after a
lightning delay, beat the wolf Pack forty five to twenty four.
And during that delay there was a lightning bolt that
(22:45):
hit the brand new scoreboard there at Carter Finley Stadium
and it shorted the whole thing out. Just to give
you an idea of how crazy that weather was there today.
Number twelve Utah needed two touchdowns in the last two
minutes to beat Baylor twenty to thirteen. Seventeenth threat, North
Carolina over Apalachin State in double overtime forty to thirty
four Number eighteen Oklahoma. They led SNU fourteen to eleven
(23:06):
early in the fourth quarter, but they end up winning
the game twenty eight to eleven. Washington State with an
upset in Pullman of number nineteen Wisconsin at thirty one
to twenty two Number twenty ole miss They go to
New Orleans to beat number twenty four two Lane thirty
seven to twenty. Prime time is in full effect. In Boulder,
Number twenty two Colorado led Nebraska thirteen to seven of
(23:29):
the third quarter, then they run away to beat the
Huskers thirty six to fourteen. They're now two to zero
on the season. Miami beats number twenty three Texas A
and m forty eight thirty three and in the NFL,
Ravens tighten Mark Andrews with a quad injury, likely out tomorrow.
The Rams have placed wide receiver Cooper Cup on injured
reserve with his hamstring injury, so he will not play
(23:50):
against the Seahawks tomorrow and then he'll miss the first
four games of the season. Major League Baseball, Orioles make
it seven in a row. They beat the Red Sox
thirteen to twelve. Arizona beats the Cubs three two and
ten innings Nationals over the Dodgers and eleven innings seven
to six, And in the US Open the Women's final Coco Golf,
the first teenager to win it since Serena Williams wins
(24:11):
against number two seed Arena Saberlenka.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Back to you, all.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Right, thanks, Kevin, All right, back to the Physics five,
our lightning round face. Let's go over some select games here.
I want to start in Denver, where if you hold
your nose, you could have got the Raiders about ten
days ago plus four, which I did. I don't know
why I did it, but Jimmy g under center. For
some reason, I feel like this is the right side
(24:38):
Sunday your thought on Raiders Denver.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Yeah, so market agrees in general, Bernie, and I'm sure
you've got these numbers. Divisional dogs week one have all
so strong historically to the point where I won't play
a divisional favorite, and the Broncos got bet up all summer,
and then guess what cluster injuries at wide receiver Jerry
Judy Patrick went down earlier, and because of that, I
(25:03):
fully expect that this is going to be a close game.
I hate to recommend three and a half when you
could have had better. But you know what, three and
a half is better than what you're going to get
tomorrow when it goes down to three. So plus three
and a half AOK. I'd endorse the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Glad you brought up divisional dogs Week one. Since twenty fourteen,
seventy four percent there are eight divisional games this opening weekend,
which means there are eight divisional dogs. I've been preaching
this for years, went over at last night, spent about
fifteen minutes on it. A home dog, not a divisional dog.
Pittsburgh catching two and a half against Jimmyg's former team,
(25:38):
San Francisco. Pitt ten and two is a non division
home dog under Mike Tomlin, and we all know how
Tomlin does as a dog. Your thoughts on Pittsburgh San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
So we talked the whole last segment about teasers and
why not to play them with one exception one teasers
and a minus one twenty and boom disqualified. So we're
going to tease the Pittsburgh's and I'm gonna break my
rule slightly on the long teasers. I'm gonna tease Pittsburgh
to Washington. The reason I'm doing this. Washington's not a
seven half, they're only seven point favorite, but I think
(26:09):
they're going to go up to seven and a half
tomorrow and so they'll qualify going through the three and seven.
So we're gonna tease Pittsburgh up to plus eight and
we're gonna take it with Washington down to mis one.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
I think it's a great play. I can't see Washington
losing this game at home, but I don't blame you.
If you're Washington, you don't really want to lay wood
against anybody. They're three and fifteen against. The number is
a favorite of six or more under the Ron Rivera
era with How shocked would you be though? If Arizonanta
wins the game out right?
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Fez significantly. And by the way, one thing about teasers,
we love low totals when we tease less variance. This
total is at thirty eight, so it's the lowest total
on the board, which makes it an even better teaser.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Right, You couldn't get this line now, but I got
it three months ago. I fired on Tampa Bay plus
seven against Minnesota. Lines now down to five and a
halfez this thetagoraan theoreum has never let me down Minnesota
thirteen and four, but they gave up three more points
than they scored last year. That's going to come back
to bite them somehow, some way. Your thoughts on Tampa
(27:12):
Bay getting a dead number now in Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Yeah, I never understood how a squared plus B squared
equals C squared theorem can somehow be related to, you know,
the fact that you didn't score many points but you
won a lot of football games. How that's a triangle?
I don't know, Bernie, but I digress. The bottom line,
you nailed it. It's like you've got to show discipline.
So Tampa Bay, they're getting seven and then they're getting six,
(27:36):
and you know, at some point it's just a bridge
too far when you want to get in five. By
the way, a little update though, Circa takes the biggest
bets in town. They're down to four four on this game.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
I'm not sized.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
So because of that, your plus seven looks great, plus
six looks solid, but you can't get six no more.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
I'd let it go, all right, And I appreciate your candor.
And by the way, thanks, I know you're a man whiz.
I was never big on you know, Isosceles triangles and
square numbers, as you just mentioned. As matter of fact,
my teacher once told me Pie r square and I
said that's not true, teacher, Pie are around. But never mind.
Fez all right, Fez a double digit favorite, by the way,
(28:18):
But I just can't fire on this game. But I've
come also close. There's still probably time week won underdogs
of eight or more twenty six and nine against the
spread in the last twenty years, Baltimore lang ten against Houston.
I would not be surprised if Houston hung that number, Fez,
but I can't fire on it.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Your thoughts okay, and I'm gonna pull back the curtain,
and people don't want to believe me. It's like the
original Willie Wonka movie where they're like Charlie Bucket says
the Grandpa Joe, Why don't the kids listen to mister Wonka?
And Grandpad Joe says, I don't know their net witch, Charlie.
So if you want to play Houston, this is how
the pros play. You want to win. People say they
want to win Gambis. That's all why they said I
(28:59):
want to win g And when they play a triple zero,
a zero double zero triple zero roulette whelhere it's a
house edge of seven point six percent that you could
be tracking the wheel and it could be flogged.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
You'd still lose.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
The bottom line is, if you're gonna bet Houston, you
need to get ten and there I know there are
no tens out there right now unless you happen to
reside in the in Delaware where Delaware downs is a ten. Amazing,
but it might pop up tomorrow. And if you like Baltimore,
you would tease Baltimore from nine and a half down
to two and a half and I seven points either.
Those are the only two bets pros would make on
this game. So if you want to bet something else,
(29:32):
go right ahead. Sportsbooks are holding nine percent. God bless you.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
You're helping them. Folks. Listen to the podcast and what
Fes just said there that was outstanding. You covered a
lot of ground on that checked all significant boxes you
want to think like in pro bet like a pro.
You don't have to be a pro. Listen to Steve Asik,
by the way, extra points Fez for the Willy Wonco reference.
Of course, that character played by Jack Albertson laid and
(29:57):
Ben for fifty years. But hops right out and Dan,
this is a jig? Who know fedz all right? Another
game that's really caught my eye because as a lot
of people I respect, like you, have fired on the dog. Here.
What am I talking about? Jacksonville visits Indianapolis. I do
not think Anthony Richardson's anywhere near a major league quarterback.
Yet Andy catching points at home. Bottom line, I realized
(30:21):
that Jacks are one and eight against the number when
you dress him up as a favorite their last nine games.
But I don't know, man, I don't have the kleones
to fire on Indianapolis tomorrow or Sunday. But people I respect,
have your thoughts on this game.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Yeah, we don't like Anthony Richardson. We love divisional dogs.
We love the fact that's gotten slated up from three
up to four and a half. So hold your nose
bet the cults. But won't surprise me if at the
end of the game I'm screaming after Anthony Richardson throws
a pick six, and then I'm yelling I've got a ballow,
thank you for a.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Quarterback, Thank you so much. Yeah, I'm staying off that game.
It'll take ten years off off my life. If another game.
I'm staying off New Orleans laying a short number against Tennessee.
I'm not a Derek Carr guy. Sixty three and seventy
nine as a starter. You might do well tomorrow when
it doesn't matter. He's pretty good. I don't like him
in the red zone, and I don't like him on
third down. I don't like him in this situation, even
(31:15):
though it looks too easy. Your thoughts, New Orleans, Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
You know, I actually like Derek Carr, and I bullish
on the Saints, but I think this is bet on
versus bet on. The Titans won twelve games, then they
won eleven games that they were seven and three last year.
Then they had all the injuries and didn't win another game.
So whoever loses this game, I'll be looking to bet
on in subsequent weeks. I'll lean Titans at three and
a half. You know, at three. Excuse me, but the
(31:39):
threes are disappearing. If it goes below three, I'd actually
lean to the safe.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Well, so that tells me to believe that sells me.
Sharp Moneys backing the dog here, and I think I'll
sit this one out. But that would be the only
side that I could look another game I won't be
involved in because you just don't know that knucklehead Brandon Staley,
who's the smartest guy in the world, just asks him
keeps defending these analytical decisions even though they're wrong ninety
seven percent of the time. I like this Miami team
(32:06):
catching a short number. Haven't fired on it yet. Your
thoughts as they visit the LA Chargers.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
My power ratings say this is the most mislined game.
It's my powering is have it off by two, which
doesn't sound like a lot.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
But that's lots a lot. Oh goodness, go ahead, right.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
So I've got equal teams, one for home field for
the Chargers. The reason I'm not like going crazy with
Miami's just when they played last year, the Chargers entire
defense seemingly was injured and they still shut down the
Dolphins in Tua, and I'm a little concerned about that prior.
I know it's one data points, so just the lean Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Okay, that's fair. Let's wrap it up with the Senday
night game and then the Monday night game Giants catching
points at home against Dallas. If you know, if I
got a nickel for every speech Dak is talking about
this season. Elon Musk can be mowing my lawn. When
they get on the field Sunday, the rubber will hit
the road. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants will
(32:59):
not right your thoughts.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised either. My biggest concern is
what's happened during the all summer long. The pros that
bet the Cowboys up from nine and a half wins
to over ten extra vague, they bet the Giants down
from eight wins to seven a half wins. So the
pros like the Cowboys, they dislike the Giants. But the
spot's good for the Giants, so I agree. If I
had to bet that, I'd bet the Giants. But that's
(33:20):
a one time only, Bernie. We're not going to get
invest in the Giants very many times this year.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
I think, well, Dallas, he has not been great as
a road favorite, and it's quadruple revenge for the Giants
if that means anything.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Finally, night, it was triple revenge last.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Game, nicely done and it failed your good point, good point,
faz all right, finally we get to Monday night. What
we've all been waiting for, sort of leave it or not.
Hard knocks teams week one six and against the number
the last six years. You've got all kinds of motivation
for the Jets if they can stay healthy one game.
I don't think Buffalo is going to regress as much
(33:57):
as people think this year. But this is a spot player.
I can only look to the Jets your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
So in the movie Wall Street, the Wall Street is
the stock is crashing on Blue Star airlines and it
drops from eighteen to seventeen to sixteen and a half
and there are no buyers, and then they hit sixteen
and everyone's like sold. And that's what's going to happen
in this game. All the pros want the Jets plus three.
Speaker 6 (34:18):
They want the Jets.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
They were one and two and now two and a half,
and they have no interest in two and a half
because they know standalone game Monday Night Football and the
public's going to bet the Bills. As soon as it
hits three. The pros will come in and invest in
the Jets, but they need the three.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
With you on thousand percent, Fez outstanding stuff. The NFL
is back, that says like five is back, replete with
movie references. I remember that scene with Martin Sheen and
and it's so good. So you got you got a
Willie Wonker reference in a wall Street or no, yeah,
wall Street almost said Wolfe wall Street. Maybe we'll have
(34:55):
that reference next week. All right, great Stuffez, go ahead,
you got the last time.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
How big a yacht do you need to water step behind?
Bernie best bet teaser Steelers with the Washington Commandos.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Outstanding, Fest, great stuff, buddy, We'll see you next Saturday.
Enjoy your Sunday. The NFL is back, and so is
the Physic five. Thanks Buddy, Thank you Berne. That is
Steve Pessick and the Physic Five. You get entertainment, you
get laughs, you get information, you get betting strategies. So
when the podcast hits tonight, about half an hour after
the show, about an hour of the show signs off,
(35:29):
listen to this segment again and again and take notes
because Fest said many things that you can carry with
you throughout the entire season coming up. I told you
the Colorado Buffs made history Saturday. They did something that
no one has done. It They've been trying to do
since nineteen eighty nine, but the Buffs did it. As
(35:51):
the hit parade continues, I'm Bernie Fraddle. We are coming
to you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Tirerac dot com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (36:18):
All right back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports
Radio Comedy Live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
tire Act dot RM studios. YEP will take you up
to three am Pacific, six am Eastern. Top of the Art.
I'm forgetting Mark Medina rejoins us Medina Magic. Talk a
little bit about that Phoebe World Cup situation. And oh,
by the way, in about ninety minutes from now, the
(36:41):
USA will play Canada for the bronze. We'll talk about that.
Another NBA news. But as I mentioned at the top
of the show, Colorado made history again on Saturday. Here's
how well, remember about a week go when Colorado was
a twenty two point underdog to TCU and they won
(37:05):
the game outright. Well, opening week underdogs have twenty or
more points who pull off an upset. Now this has
only happened six times since nineteen eighty nine, they disappear
into the witness protection program the following week. Those teams
are zero to six, and of the teams that did it,
the only team that was actually a favorite the following
(37:27):
week prior to Colorado Today or Saturday was Southern Miss. Now, ironically, coincidentally,
Southern Miss in nineteen eighty nine played at Florida State.
They were twenty two and a half point dogs. They
beat Florida State in Deon Sanders thirty to twenty six.
That was nineteen eighty nine. The following week, Florida Or
(37:49):
check that, Southern Miss was a favorite against Mississippi State,
seven point favorite. They lost outright. Colorado Today closed as
a three point favorite against Minnesota. What in fact would
Colorado do in their encore? I'll tell you what they did.
(38:10):
They went out right and they did it very convincingly,
the only team to do it in thirty four years.
So in the seventh try, Colorado the only team in
college football history on opening day to win as an
underdog of more than twenty points and then to follow
up the next week by also winning again. Now it
(38:31):
made a lot of betters happy. Almost ninety percent of
the money was on the buffs. There was more action
than the Colorado Nebraska game than on all thirty two
NFL games. There's in a single NFL game where there
was more action than there was on Colorado Nebraska. Yep,
the Colorado hits just keep coming. I can't wait till
(38:52):
next week coming up, Mark Medina Medina Magic at midnight.
Always news in the NBA is especially in the Feeble
World Cup. So keep it locked right here. You're listening
to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radio. Here's Bernie. Well,
that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Fraddle Show
(39:13):
keeps rolling right along. We're just getting started. We're coming
you live from the tirac dot com studios here in
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio. Tirack dot com will help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping for
your road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tyrect dot com the way tire buying should be. What
(39:35):
about ninety minutes, Team USA will wrap up their business
in the Philippines the Phoeble World Cup. They'll be playing
Canada for the bronze. Yes, it's September, but there's always
news in the NBA. That's why Saturday midnight Pacific, it's
that time. Oh good o guy, Mark Medina. But do
(39:59):
you imagine think covering the NBA since Moses were cargo
shorts big And speaking of that, Mark, I want to
start with fever World Cup. This matters. I'm not going
to compare it to nineteen eighty eight John Thompson losing
in the Olympics. I watched that game, but I will
bet that the Paris Olympic team looks a lot different
(40:21):
than this one next summer.
Speaker 6 (40:22):
Do you agree, Oh, without a doubt. But look, this
is inevitable at the cycle. When he looked back in
the last decade, uh, the you know, the Olympic period
is for the A listers, the best of the best,
and the World Cup has been I don't know. These
guys are only young, up and coming star players. They're
not scrubs or anything, but it's clearly a different level
(40:43):
of talent and so I think with that, I would
look at this potential bronze metal finish or fourth place
finish a little bit differently than you know, when they
underachieved in the last few of tournament. Unlike the past
few World Cups, there was a lot of good chemistry.
Even though they didn't have the continuity, the effort was there.
(41:03):
But I then, clearly two things are paramount won. You know,
the international game, the competition's gotten more fears. And then two,
you know, the TMOSA doesn't have an answer when it
comes to other big guys around the world. You know,
they wanted to go small, and that's fine in today's NBA,
but if you're going to do that, you got to
play at a faster pace and that wound up biting
(41:25):
them in the butt a little bit.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
This game that tips off about ninety minutes from now,
Mark is worth talking about. Even Tyrese Haliburton said they
haven't won a medal since the thirties. That's true. They
actually won of gold medal at the thirty six Olympics
at Canada in a game that was played outside in
the rain, believe it or not, and James Nasmith, and
(41:47):
founder Canadian basketball, was denied access to the game because
he had the wrong credentials. Anyway, story for a different day.
Where am I going with this? How good of a
game do you expect this to be? I mean other
than Shay Gilgess Alexander, I'm not really sure who Canada's.
Speaker 6 (42:00):
Yeah, yeah, well, look, I think it's going to be competitive.
You know, these were two teams I thought they would
be in the gold medal match, so maybe, you know,
the excitement won't be as much there, but I think
that both teams will have a reason to want to
play well because it could carry in to the Paris Olympics.
But you know, you did note that there are some
notable absences. You know, Jamal Murray is not there, Andrew
(42:23):
Wiggins isn't there, but Shay gillig is, Alexander is the
real deal. I mean, earlier in the tournament, Luca Dodgers
was calling Shay one of the best players in the world,
and I don't think that's an understatement. And you know,
they got Dylan Brooks, so he's always good for trash
talking some nonsense here. But I think clearly Team Canada
has a lot of good young talent. Even though it's
(42:43):
not as much as the Americans, I think that should
still be a good competition, mostly because of show.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
I feel like this is a very favorable match up
for the USA because Canada has not exactly been stellar
on the boards during the World Cup, and that was
the real meme for Team USA. They got crushed on
the offensive, lasting against Montenenro, against Lithuania, and even against Germany.
They gave up a ton of second chance points. I'm
going to ask you to handicap this game. Who do
(43:11):
you expect to win?
Speaker 6 (43:12):
Well, I'm going to give the US the advantage. It
could go either way. But I really think hear me out, Bernie.
I don't think that the US is going to say,
you know what, you know, it's gold or buss. Who
cares about this game? Clearly it's not going to feel
as veg As trying to compete for a gold medal.
But I think that the US players are very cognizant
(43:34):
of when you look at other past tournaments, what those
participating players that experienced the following season. In the NBA,
there was a real carryover effect going into training camp
having really good seasons. I mean, I think lamar Odom
is the most notable example. In twenty ten. He wound
up winning six Man of the Year the next season.
(43:54):
So I think because of that, the players still feel
like they'll have something to play for because they know
in camps around the corner. But look, anything could happened theoretically,
and in this Steva World Cup specifically, you had, as
you mentioned, the US really struggling on the glass. They
gave up sixty three second chance points combined to Montenegro,
Lithuania and Germany. Here they have a little bit of
(44:17):
advantage because Canada was nineteenth until rebounds, eleventh in offensive
rebounds overall. But I think clearly that they also showed
that there were some games like the Lithuania game, like
the Germany game, that they weren't always consistent and as
a result they could be vulnerable. But at the same time,
(44:39):
there have been other games where they showed their complete dominance,
and so it's been very unpredictable which version you'll see.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
Yeah, I agree with you, Mark, I think we'll get
a max effort out of the USA. They don't want
to go home without a metal. I just didn't. I
haven't watched Canada en f and all. You know how
competitive they can make this game. I guess we'll just
have to wait and see. But you don't expect it
to be a decisive win for either side. You expected
to be a close game. Is that's it?
Speaker 6 (45:07):
I expected to be close. I don't think either team's
gonna mail it in. I know, especially in soccer when
it comes to the World Cup, sometimes as bronze medal
games are ugly to watch and it's the feeling of
who cares. I think in this case, I think both
teams are very well aware of the training camp implications,
particularly for the NBA players.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
All right, let's talk about we know we're probably getting
inching closer to the regular season in the NBA mark
because the Lakers actually made a deal and I paid
particular attention to this because I covered this young man
when he was at UNLV. They got Christian Wood on
a two year deal fairly well on the cheap, and
that leads me to believe. Now that comes on the
(45:47):
heels of Jackson Hayes, that leads me to believe that
Anthony Davis will be seeing fewer minutes at center this
season during the regular season. Your thoughts on the acquisition
and how it will affect Anthony.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Well, I think your analysis a spot on, and you know,
shoutouts estm Dave mcmaman. He mentioned earlier this week that
Anthony Davis went to the front office directly and said hey,
I don't want to play as much at the five,
and they acquiesced a little bit. That's why they got
probably why they got Jackson Hayes and Christian Wood. But
I think the reality is that the Lakers didn't necessarily
(46:22):
make those moves just because of that. I think that
they just wanted reinforcements for the possibility that, you know,
you're not going to expect Anthony Davis to play eighty
two games and haven't forbid he goes through another injury.
But I think it's also just lineup versatility. I think
even if the Lakers technically acquiesced eighties demands I or
(46:42):
asked at least, it sound like he was tiny on
the door. He just talked with him. But I still
think that he'll primarily play most of his minutes at
center because he's really effective at that, and also because
of the ripple effect that if you're playing Anthony Davis
at power forward, now you're slying Lebron James's forward, and look,
Lebron can play every position. He's still one of the
(47:03):
best in the world. But when it comes to what
that means defensively, that all of a sudden means that
Lebron's got to cover some of the best wings wings
scores in the NBA, and I don't think that that's
fair to him in his twenty first season, and so
I think with that it's more about just having more depth,
more lineup combinations. But I think when you add it
all up, he's going to have primarily his minutes at
(47:25):
center and they'll have smaller lineups and them playing Christian
Woodard Jackson Hayes alongside Anthony Davis will really just be
kind of matchup Riven and then you know them getting
more play in time might just happen when they need
to conserve Ad out of precautionary reasons or having forbids
he has an actual injury.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Let me throw one more thing at you, because there's
another dimension Christian Wood brings to the Lakers. He can
chewt threes the Lakers. When he shot thirty four percent
from behind the arc last year, Wood is one of
four players six to ten or more to make one
hundred threes, and his past two seasons, I think he's
just under forty. Do you expect the Lakers to utilize
him with that part of the game.
Speaker 6 (48:06):
Yeah, I want to be surprised. I mean, look, the
Lakers tried. They considered three point shooting priority. That's why
they got, you know, some wild cards like gave Vincent,
who showed that he could shoot well from the outside
of Miami. Now, his numbers dipped a little bit in
the finals, but they're confident that that was more of
attrition than anything else, and that he'll shoot really well.
(48:27):
And then they have some wild cards like Tron Prince
and Cam Reddish that have shown flashes of being good
outside shooters, but you know, some streakiness. But I think
with that, they're has a feeling that they feel like
they can put those players in position to succeed from
the outside because of just how well they move the
(48:48):
ball and the fact that they'll run the offense through
Lebron and ad Well. Both of them will obviously draw
a lot of double teams that will create open three pointers.
So yeah, with Christian Wood from a number standpoint, he
can score really well. He can hit from three. I
think the question marks are going to be what he's
(49:08):
going to do defensively, you know. I know, talking to
him last season when he was at Dallas, he was
really talking a big game about how you know, he's
really embraced it defensively, and at the time the Mavericks
really praised him. But you know that was in the
middle of the season. Toured later in the season, it
seemed like Dallas kind of soured on him, and there's
a reason why he was available until early September. But
(49:31):
I think the Lakers just feel confident that from his case,
from his standpoint, they don't need to rely heavily on him.
He's just a fourteenth man on the roster that can
be used, you know, sparingly on an on needed basis.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Wrapping it up with Mark Medina Medina Magic Midnight Bernie
Frattles show him in Night Pacific. The New Orleans Pelicans
a team that I think who's arrow is pointing upward.
Their guard Trey Murphy looks like he's out three months
after knee surgery this week. He started almost seventy games
last year. How much does that hurt the Pelicans.
Speaker 6 (50:05):
Well, it hurts the Pelicans because he is a really
good player. I mean, he was really good last season,
which is from three point shooting, you know, really good
primary guy. I think he defends really well. But I
think it's kind of the deeper implications that we've already
had question marks about Dion Williamson's durability. And you know,
the last thing that the Pelicans can afford is having
(50:27):
another player out because of injuries. So yeah, that's been
the thing that's obviously been holding them back from either
becoming that young team that can finally make some noise
to be a serious contender, versus a team that's on
the outside looking in. And so with that, it's not
a good sign that they are already dealing with injury
issues even with a different player before the season and starts.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
Maybe they can trade for Ben Simmons, will have their
own Big three.
Speaker 6 (50:53):
Too soon, they'll all be on the bench mark.
Speaker 2 (50:57):

Hy Right back at the Bernie Final Show, Fox Sports
Radio Company Live from the Tarak dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. We will take you up till three
am Pacific six am Eastern, as we are on the
heels of our first full Sunday slate of NFL games. Now,
why is week one so significant when it comes to
(53:53):
a certain ankle that's been profitable to the tune of
seventy four percent since twenty fourteen and well over fifty
percent going back to twenty oh three. Divisional games Week
one there are eight of them Week one Broncos, Raiders, Falcons, Panthers, Bengals, Browns, Jags, Colts, Bears, Packers, Seahawks, Rams, Cowboys,
(54:18):
Giant Sunday Night, and then of course wrap it up
Monday night with a divisional game, New York Jets getting home,
getting points at home home dog divisional home dog on
Monday Night. Doesn't get much better than that. So why
is September specifically Week one so profitable for betting divisional dogs? Well,
(54:43):
here's why. Mainly, all these teams that are suiting up
for the most part ninety nine point four percent, they
are at full strength. They're at full strength, they're still optimistic.
New situation haven't given up yet, Depression hasn't set in yet.
And here's one of the kickers. The good teams, the
(55:05):
superior teams take two, three, four weeks to fully gel
and break apart from the pack. Even though those great
Patriots teams Bill Belichick used to use September primarily as
the preseason. It took that second, third, fourth week in
September before you saw the real New England Patriots. Will
very few teams utilize their starters in the preseason. It's
(55:29):
less than ever. A little bit here and there sprinkled,
But you're gonna see situations whether it feels like there's
a lot more parody. So when you have two teams
on the field and neither one is geled, but particularly
the better one yet and the good teams are the
lesser team, they're still intact, no major injuries, depression hasn't
(55:51):
set in. You get my drift. Plus you gotta remember,
for this single game, coaches have had months to prepare
for that game plan. This leads to much tighter games.
Not only that, it leads to the likelihood of divisional
dogs not only covering, but pulling surprise upsets. I will
(56:12):
suspicion to say that of the eight games that our
divisional games this weekend that I just named, I'll be
shocked to five of the dogs don't cover and two
of them don't win outright, and will revisit this next
Friday night when I'm on You got to remember Also
in the National Football League, there is a lot of
(56:34):
data going back down twenty years that if you're a
favorite of six or more points in the National Football
League Week one since two thousand and five, you're only
forty two percent against the number. As a favorite of
more than six points. As an underdog of eight or more, well,
my goodness, in the last twenty years, those underdogs cashing
(56:55):
at a rate of seventy four percent. Also twenty six
and nine against the spread. You also want to look
for teams that missed the postseason last year and open
up on the road as a dog, very profitable sixty
four percent since twenty eleven. Part of the reason is,
here's the deal. Here's the translation. Week one spreads typically
(57:18):
gave a little too much credit to the team that
played poorly last year, not the one on the field.
Now see where I'm going with that. That's why Colorado,
for instance, was a twenty two point dog. Those power
numbers against TCU were propagated from last year's team. None
of these eighty six guys in this new team had
anything to do with that. Well, Houston, now I haven't
(57:40):
fired on it, but I'm getting close. Houston's catching ten Okay,
they were not great last year, but they added some
pieces in the offseason. They bring in Sheldon Rankins, Jimmy Ward.
The defense will only be better. Shaq Mason Josh Jones.
That's an offensive line improvement. Both will start, you know,
(58:01):
help the offensive line. They drafted Will Anderson out of Georgia.
I don't think anybody can argue probably the best defender
in the draft. We'll see how CJ. Stroud does, but
it's still an upgraded quarterback. Maybe not an upgrade week one.
I always thought Davis Mills was pretty good. He can
play the position, actually, but CJ. Stroud has a higher ceiling.
(58:22):
And let's not forget Tomiko Ryans. I think it was
a great hire by Houston to bring in Demiko Ryans.
He's a defensive minded guy. He's gonna help Derek Stingley,
who was the number three pick last year, more reach
his ceiling. And by the way, the Texans very quietly
ranked tenth in defensive DVOA last year the back half
(58:43):
of the season, number two against the pass. So don't
be surprised if Baltimore, who's breaking in a new offense,
and Lamar Jackson hasn't played a lot right the last
year and a half. Could they get off to a
bit of a slow start. I don't know. This is
very dicey. I'm just telling you what history shows us.
History shows us that underdogs have eight or more. They
(59:04):
cover seventy four percent week one since two thousand and three.
Now Baltimore is gonna bring us stud rushing attack and
a stout defense. But this team looks like it's gonna
be a different version. They're gonna be a little more
pass happy, and they've already had a couple cluster injuries
in corner. So this is a high variance situation to watch.
(59:24):
It's a lot of points to give as a favorite,
and if you're an underdog getting ten, there's a lot
of unknowns about Houston. They may show up and give
an effort. I don't know if I'm gonna fire on it.
I just don't know. I want to see what things
look like in the morning. But I will say this
history is telling us that don't pooh pooh. A double
(59:45):
digit dog like Houston week one can't do it all right.
I know some people I respect that are actually on
the Texans, and when we talk about some of these
divisional Dogs. I promise you there's folks on the Raiders.
That's the side for a lot of folks. There's folks
on the Panthers. Maybe less. The Browns getting two and
(01:00:05):
a half at home against the Bengals have become a
very trendy play. We'll see how they do with Jim
Schwartz's new defense. Colts at home also a very trendy play.
Love the Jags, but dressed them up as a favorite.
Their last nine only one in eight. I don't know
if I can trust Anthony Richardson just yet. Shane Steichen first,
you know game as a new head coach Bars Packers.
(01:00:28):
I'm not going to touch that's a coin flip game.
The Rams are bringing in action, believe it or not
against the Seahawks, even though they look depleted. And of
course my two favorite dog home dogs this weekend, the
Giants and the Jets. You really can't pooh pooh either
of them. These things are real. By the way, one
thing denote very quickly in the NFL is if we
(01:00:50):
needed another stop at your play. All failed fourth down
conversions will now be automatically reviewed. Now. We already reviewed
turn on and we already reviewed scoring plays whether you
like it or not. Now they're going to be reviewing
all field fourth down conversions. Boy, won't that be fun?
(01:01:10):
Coming up? You hear him Saturday Nights with Martin VJ
Husky Uncle Vj's Corner. We're going to dive into some
of his one hundred and seventeen predictions for the twenty
twenty three NFL season. This is the last chance to
do it since yep. Nine and a half hours. Week
one kicks off in Fine Feddle. First, go back to
(01:01:32):
our guy, Kevin Wirrett with the.
Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
Latest Primetime is in full effect over in Boulder, third and.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
Ten to the twelve yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Should Dours have a shotgun?
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
Dylan Edwards off his white hip motion Man Jimmy Horn
drops moves to his left, has all kinds of time
whitels this one end.
Speaker 9 (01:01:48):
Sound touchdown, touchdown Colorado in that time?
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Should Dors Sanders pay?
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
What the hater?
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
There was the flames on that pool?
Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
That was the Colorado network from lear Field there with
the Carl Sanders with three hundred and ninety three yards
and two touchdowns as the Buffs beat their heated rival
Nebraska thirty six fourteen, and it was announced earlier today
that college game Day will be at Boulder for the
first time since nineteen ninety six. The effect of coach
Prime continuing to be fell. Other action from Saturday saw
(01:02:23):
number eleven Texas upset number three Alabama in Tuscaloosa, thirty
four to twenty four, as has scored three straight touchdowns
in that pivotal fourth quarter. Last game of the evening
saw Number six USC Demalis Stanford fifty six to ten.
Number nine Tennessee over Austin p of the FCS thirty
to thirteen. Although it was a slow start, it was
a six to sixth game late in the first half.
(01:02:46):
Number ten Notre Dame overcoming a long lightning delay to
beat NC State forty five to twenty four. Number twelve Utah
a come from behind last second win. They got two
touchdowns in the last two minutes to beat Baylor and
Waco I Needa thirteen. Number seventeen North Carolina over in
state Appalachian State forty to thirty four in double overtime.
(01:03:07):
Eighteenth rank Oklahoma beats SMU twenty eight to eleven. An
upset in Pollman as Washington State takes down Number nineteen
Wisconsin on their home Turf thirty one to twenty two.
Number twenty Ole Miss goes to New Orleans and beats
Number twenty four two Lane thirty seven to twenty and
Miami over Number twenty three Texas A and M forty
eight to thirty three. NFL News Mark Andrews likely not
(01:03:29):
to play tomorrow. NFL media reporting that he is likely
out with a quad injury. The Rams have placed Cooper
Cup on injured reserve. He's been dealing with a hamstring
injury throughout the preseason, and now he will miss officially
the first four weeks of the season, including tomorrow's matchup
with the Seahawks. Major League Baseball Orioles make it seven
(01:03:49):
in a row. They beat the Red Sox thirteen to twelve,
an extra inning win for the Diamondbacks over the Cubs
three to two. Same for the Washington Nationals as they
beat the Dodgers in eleven, seven to six, and open
Women's Final Coco Golf. The champion the first teenager to
win it since Serena Williams back in two thousand and one.
She beats number two seed Arena Sabolenka. Back to You
(01:04:11):
verning Now.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
The duals of tunes of Kevin Wirart, also known as
the Chef, and he'll be regaling us with tunes from
I almost said south Park. It is south Park, That's
what I almost said, south Point because you know here,
But I digress. All right. This time it's welcome and
a gentleman. You hear him every Saturday night with Martin
Weiss and the Airs five pm Pacific to eight pm.
(01:04:32):
These guys bring some serious heat to do their homework.
Very conversational show, and he has come up with one
hundred and seventeen NFL predictions for the twenty twenty three season.
Say he lood our good, buddy, Vernon Husky VJ Husky
as we call Uncle VJ. Uncle Vj's corner. What do
you got, buddy?
Speaker 10 (01:04:51):
What's going on? Big Burns?
Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
How the living Man? How you living?
Speaker 9 (01:04:54):
I'm living a dream, bab You know me. I'm trying
to be like you. If I had your hands, I
cut mine off.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
Oh I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
Good night, folks.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
You've been a great audience. I don't need to go in, man,
just take it over. So I gotta ask you we
have go ahead?
Speaker 9 (01:05:11):
No good, I'm just saying I'm mad as I'm here
all weeks ladies and gentlemen, tune in, tune in.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
I love it. So there is one game in the books.
I got to ask you, were any of your one
hundred and seventeen predictions involving specifically the opening that game
with Kansas City and Detroit.
Speaker 9 (01:05:27):
No, but I'll tell you what I was surprised with.
I was surprised with how well Kansas City's defense did play.
I don't know if they're getting enough credit for that.
Detroit only had fourteen points. The other touchdown was a
pick six. They held Detroit to three sixty eight. It
was a really clean game man only seven penalties total.
Each team had eleven drives. He team only had one turnover.
(01:05:48):
I think both teams need to run the ball a
little more. But I don't think Kelsey being out was
the big story. I think the way I saw my
homes play was a bigger story. Twenty one to thirty nine.
He just kind of looked a little He led him
in Russian Bernie, which was very surprising being that Pichenko
was supposed to be the guy to really take over
this rushing attack.
Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
Yeah, I agree with you about the defense. They actually
got some pressure on Golf had some battered balls, and
even without Chris Jones in Detroit with their number three
offensive line, I felt Casey acquitted himself quite well on defense,
that was not the issue. But I digress. Okay, so
you've got these numbered Let's do a little rapid fire.
(01:06:31):
Let's do a little maybe, Mark find us a little
nice little music bed to get us in the mood.
Here the little rapid fire, I'll fire numbers off one
hundred and seventeen NFL predictions as it kicked out for
now in nine and a half hours. Okay, VJ. Let's
go with number six. That's my number I played, I
wore on baseball.
Speaker 10 (01:06:48):
All right, number six. Can you guys hear me? You
got your.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Bernie, we got your Bud.
Speaker 9 (01:06:53):
Good job, Mark number go number six. I have justin sales. Well,
rush for one thousand yards, becoming only the second quarterback
to do it in back to back years. The last
time it was done Lamar Jackson twenty nineteen twenty twenty
last year. That's the fields average six point eight yards
a carry and six point and seven six point eight.
(01:07:15):
Lamar did it with seven point one in back to
back years. Remember also, too, they also had the number
one Russian team in the league. I think they duplicate
that again this year.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
They're probably gonna need him because no more David Montgomery,
but hopefully, uh, you know, he's more diligent from the
pocket tea year. That's what they really need. But I
don't think you're wrong. I think that could happen. It's
only about sixty five yards a game. All right, let's
go with let's go number one seventeen. What the hell?
Speaker 9 (01:07:41):
Number one seventeen all the way to the back of
the book.
Speaker 10 (01:07:45):
Here. I'm sorry, I gotta slip fast.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Take your time. We're good, We're good.
Speaker 9 (01:07:48):
Okay, okay, you know me, man, I'd just like to
be due diligence. So one seventeen was actually for my divisions,
actually for one seventeen.
Speaker 10 (01:07:59):
So for number one seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
I have that.
Speaker 10 (01:08:06):
Uh let me say, okay, I got I got it
right here. I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (01:08:09):
One seventeen is actually an eighteen parlay that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Oh my goodness, digit winners.
Speaker 9 (01:08:14):
Yes, check this out. Number eight number one seventeen. Seattle
wins their division plus two thirty the Vikings plus two
ninety KC minus won sixty five fifth and ninety plus
one forty the Dolphins plus three hundred the Jackson minus
one fifty five, Philly minus one thirty five New Orleans
plus one oh five A ten dollars bet on that
(01:08:37):
wins you eleven thousand, six hundred and forty nine twenty dollars.
Get you twenty three thousand, fifty dollars. Get you fifty
eight thousand and one hundred thousand, one hundred dollars. Get
you one hundred and sixteen thousand, four hundred and ninety
five dollars if you hit that eighteen division winner Parlay.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
And very interesting six of them. I really like I'm
not a Derek Carr guy. And we'll see if the
Pythagoram theorem bites Minnesota in the butt. But hey, you
never know. How about one sixteen? What's number one sixteen,
number one sixteen?
Speaker 9 (01:09:10):
Ah at number one sixteen, I have the Packers finish
him at ten and seven. I think Jordan Love is ready.
I love the combo backs of Aaron Jones and Dylan.
I think that might be the best tombo backs in
the league. I love the wide receiver duel with Watson
and Dogs. I know Watson's out tomorrow. Good offensive line.
I always like to look, excuse me, Ernie on the
(01:09:32):
first seven games of the year. It's howking tinna tell
how your season may go. At Chicago, at Atlanta, Detroit, Vegas, Denver, Vikings,
and Ramps. I feel like that's five and two. They
can get to five and two out of the first
seven games.
Speaker 10 (01:09:46):
I think you can.
Speaker 9 (01:09:47):
They definitely can win another five games out of the
next ten and go fifty percent of the next ten
games and finish up at ten and seven. I think
that's good for third place this year in the NFC.
Speaker 10 (01:09:59):
At Christopher needs to say North divisions.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Remember that NMC Norris Division. Nicely done? All right? I'm
an agreement. I think Green Bacon win ten games, and
it's not just Jordan Love. I think they got a
lot better roster than people realize. They got a very
good roster on both sides of the ball. Let's stay
the high numbers. Let's go to one fifteen.
Speaker 9 (01:10:22):
Number one fifteen, all right? Man, Well that's right next
to that same division we were just talking about the Bears.
I think the Bears improved from last year early, won
three games. I like them at six and eleven on
an improvement this year.
Speaker 10 (01:10:36):
Already mentioned about Justin fields, but they do have a lot.
Speaker 9 (01:10:39):
Of holes the field, namingly running backs.
Speaker 10 (01:10:41):
They do get a receiver in free agency, so they.
Speaker 9 (01:10:43):
Feel like they have a big guy to go with Mooney.
But I look at these first seven to start packers
at the bus teeth Denver, Washington, Vice and the Vegas.
That sounds that feels like two to five. And if
they continue on that road and that type of season
of starting the first seven to two and five, I
see the Bears in six to ten.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
They'll be bringing up the rear in the.
Speaker 9 (01:11:05):
North division there in the NFC North.
Speaker 10 (01:11:08):
But I think they're approved, but they still have a
lot of holes of Phil Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Oh yeah, all right, why do we do this, VJ?
Pick your top three, any three or however you want
to do it that you feel most confident about.
Speaker 10 (01:11:23):
Oh I love this right here at number thirty five.
I've been asked about this one. I've said it pretty
much on a lot of different shows.
Speaker 9 (01:11:28):
Bernie, I think there will be five wide receiver combos
this year. Okay, that will finish with a thousand yards
for two receivers on.
Speaker 10 (01:11:40):
Five different teams.
Speaker 9 (01:11:41):
The Miami Dolphins, Tyreek Hill and Jayalen Wattle will both
go over one thousand. AJ Brown and Davontae Smith both
over one thousand, Damar Chase T. Higgins both over one thousands,
Lockett and DK Metcalf over one thousand, and my favorite
sleeper one Justin.
Speaker 10 (01:11:57):
Jefferson and my Man Addison.
Speaker 9 (01:12:00):
Rookie receiver out of sc great drop runner great speed
was a Belita Call Award winner at Pitch before he
transferred to.
Speaker 10 (01:12:08):
USC that last year to play for Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 9 (01:12:10):
I think we get five solid receiving duos that ends
up with one thousand yards for two receivers on five
different teams this year.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
I love Jordan Addison and with him on the field team,
teams are gonna have to think twice about doubling Justin Jefferson. Okay,
number two, your second favorite?
Speaker 10 (01:12:29):
Number two?
Speaker 9 (01:12:30):
Oh, my second favorite. I love this one right here.
Odell Beckham has not finished with more than six touchdown
catches since twenty and seventeen. Vegas has the over under
a five and a half touchdown catches, and they said
his receiving yard mark get sick. Bernie at five seventy
five and a have This is one of the reasons
why I'm not so high on the receiving corps in Baltimore.
(01:12:54):
Give me the under on both of those.
Speaker 10 (01:12:56):
I those.
Speaker 9 (01:12:57):
Odell Beckham is over thirty.
Speaker 10 (01:12:58):
He's had two ac yel.
Speaker 9 (01:13:00):
You have Cleveland in that division, Pittsberg and that division,
who weren't really high on in Cincinnati in that division.
The wild card of that division to me is not
Cleveland like most people think. I think that's the Ravens.
You spent a lot of time talking about Lamar in
the contract. I was with you on some of that stuff.
I get to you on some of it.
Speaker 10 (01:13:18):
But this team is gonna go as Lamar does.
Speaker 4 (01:13:22):
I like.
Speaker 9 (01:13:22):
I like Jay Flowers, the rookie at of Balston College.
I just don't like this receiving core being led by
a thirty year old plus guy that's.
Speaker 10 (01:13:29):
Had to acls.
Speaker 9 (01:13:30):
Give me the under on his five and a half
touchdown catches, and give me the under on his five
seventy five and a half touchdown yards. And last one, yep,
I will touch on my favorite squad in the whole world,
my mighty Miami Dolphins. Vic Fangio will move Miami's Dolphins
(01:13:51):
defense eleven spots up from where they.
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
Were last year.
Speaker 9 (01:13:55):
Rumors are Jalen Ramsey can be back by sanksgiving there
were eighteenth over all last year. I believe they move
into the top seven last year eighteenth and yards per
game eighteenth and total yards twenty seventh. In pass defenses,
there was top ten at number seven.
Speaker 10 (01:14:09):
Against the rush, you can't run against them.
Speaker 9 (01:14:11):
Especially with big Christian Wilkins in there. They need to
give him his money and twenty fourth and scoring co
Football Focus.
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
For their defensive position.
Speaker 9 (01:14:19):
Ranks, they have the edge ring tenth, insaw linebackers, ring
fifth linebackers overall ranked thirteenth, and DB's is where they
were hurting with injuries last year bring twenty eighth. I
think they moved that up this year eleven spots from
number eighteen to a top seven defense, which gets Miami.
Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
To twelve and five with.
Speaker 9 (01:14:37):
Through of being healthy, winning the AFC East and getting
them a home divisional game as the playoffs this year.
Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Well, that improved defense might be my favorite one. You
sawid dig Fangio did in San Francisco. You saw that
he did in Denver. Even two years later, three years later,
Sean Payton is inheriting a top ten defense. All right,
tell them what they can find you on Saturday nights.
Speaker 11 (01:14:58):
Saturday nights Martin a Fox Sports Radio five to APM Pacific,
that would be eight to eleven on East Coast time,
and all my fans Beeg East myself Martin Wise, we
have a great time.
Speaker 9 (01:15:11):
Brandon Truff is our producer over there. We have a
new board operator and Larina, she's doing a great job.
Speaker 10 (01:15:17):
Two.
Speaker 9 (01:15:17):
We talk a lot of smack. We have a lot
of fun in this football season. Baby one quick one.
If fucking just throw this.
Speaker 10 (01:15:23):
At you, because we saw a piece of it the
other night. If the rest were throwing the flash.
Speaker 9 (01:15:27):
Aiden Hutchison remember nine and a half sacks last year?
I have him at fifteen or more stacks this year.
I think he is going to have a crazy year.
Vegas has it set for over under at ten and
a half. I think Aiden Hutchison is a superstar. He
is a monster. He is a beast Bernie and I
think he goes off this year. I like Aiden Hutchison
to go over the over in the under and the.
Speaker 10 (01:15:48):
Ten and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
I give an Aiden Hudcherson fifteen second.
Speaker 10 (01:15:51):
He should have had three of them the other night
to start the year.
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Yeah, there were times he not only doubled him, even
triple him a couple of times. So all right, VJ.
Good we'll talk soon.
Speaker 10 (01:16:01):
I appreciate you, brother god blessed to join the season.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
Bernie, thank you very much. That's Veja Husky. Uncle Vjy's
corner typically pops down about once a month. And you know,
my guy, if he could just get over the show
and this, he's gonna be just fine. You know what
Roger Goodell said in twenty seventeen, He said, quote, the
NFL is not changing our position as it relates to
legalized sports gambling. We don't think it's a positive thing.
(01:16:26):
End quote. Fast forward to twenty twenty three. Not so fast, Roger.
I've got some data, I got some receipts. You're gonna
want to hear him. I'm Bernie Frattle Comedy Live from
Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tirect dot com studios. Keep
it locked listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox
Sports Radio. All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show,
Fox Sports Radio, coming to life from the Tiret dot
(01:16:46):
com studios here in the Las Vegas will take up
to three a m. Pacific, six am Eastern. My goodness,
we're just over nine hours away from a full slate
of the NFL Week one, and man, I'm here for it.
By the way, here's a tidbit for you. Did you
know if you're a Jets fan, if you're a Rogers fan,
(01:17:08):
Hope Springs Eternal. The Jets last season allowed the fourth
fewest points per game in the National Football League. The
last time Aaron Rodgers played on a team that had
a top five scoring defense was in Green Bay and
twenty ten. You may recall the following February Aaron Rodgers
(01:17:30):
and the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl. It
beat Pittsburgh. Just saying, not predicting, just saying, all right,
if you don't think betting in America and the betting
activity in football is exploding, why do you hear this?
Not only is it monumental, the increases continue to be very,
(01:17:55):
very healthy, incredible. The American Gaming Association has estimated that
a record seventy four million adults, which is about twenty
nine percent of all adults in the United States, plan
to bet on the NFL this season. Here's what's crazy.
That's a fifty seven percent increase from last year. Last year,
(01:18:19):
on record, it looked like about forty six million people.
Bet that was a record. Now they're going to jump
to seventy three, a forty six percent increase. This is
just five years after the US Supreme Court allowed individual
states to set their own gambling loss. So there you
have it. Have a little fun, folks, why not? It's legal.
Make sure you do it legally, make sure you do
(01:18:41):
it safely, and make it profitable and fun or at
least have fun, don't damage your bankroll. Coming up, which
twelve teams could actually win the Super Bowl? We'll give
you our best thoughts on that. Top of the hour,
I'm Bernie Frattle. Keep it locked. This is Bernie Frattle
showing five Sports Radio. Yep, that's right, you heard the man.

(01:19:27):
Follow me on Twitter at Bernie Frattle. Okay, it all
starts for reels here in nine hours. Well, I already
started Thursday night. But don't worry about the Chiefs. They're
going to be right back in the postseason dance, and
I think the Lions will too. But for the rest
of them, well, there's kind of a sad reality. Even
vol we watch, and you know, we watch feverishly all
(01:19:52):
the way up to the last, you know, the last drop.
Probably twenty to thirty two teams have no shadow winning
the Super Bowl. That's just the reality. It's just a fact.
But I think there are twelve that are that do.
And I'm going to be honest with you here. The
list really drops off after number five, and it really
drops off like an ambulance, a bugs bunny cartoon after
(01:20:13):
number nine. Little free plug for actme there. All right,
let me start number one, the forty nine ers. If
Rock Party can play as well as you did a
year ago and the Niners state relatively healthy, I don't
know a team that has the best skilled position group,
one of the best offensive lines, the best defensive line,
(01:20:35):
and the best linebackers in the NFL. Now, how does
that not factor into this season's postseason dance? It has to, right,
San Francisco frankly, honestly has a level of depth that
the rest of the league can only dream about. That's
a fact. So they can acquie, you know, they have
a margin of error. They can you know, withstaining a
(01:20:58):
fair amount of attrition and still be considered one of
the toughest teams to beat in twenty twenty three. I
expect the forty nine ers in their division is not great.
Seattle will make a run, but I don't think I
have Seattle in my top twelve to even get the
Super Bowl to have a shot. Number two the Bengals. Okay, now,
the AFC North is going to be infinitely tougher to
(01:21:21):
deal with this coming year. And the Bengals, I believe,
though still are classes A division, they do have some vulnerabilities.
I would say running back and the true difference making
tight end doesn't have to be a Travis Kelcey, but
a lot of Chiefs have really good tight ends. They
used to. They let a zooma go. But that's nitpicking, Frankly,
(01:21:43):
that's the wart on Lincoln's mills, especially when you have
the best wide receiving cores in the NFL NFL and
a quarterback who now has about two hundred and sixty
million reasons to be happy. He can extend plays. There's
nobody in the game better in the pocket than Joe
Burrow right now, he moves in the pocket, he keeps
his eyes downfield. He's ridiculous, Okay, he is. Yet he's
(01:22:05):
all that. So every year that he stays healthy, the
Bengals automatically are on our Super Bowl contender. And don't
go to sleep on lou Anarumo's defense. He's outstanding, all right.
The Chiefs, now, look there is you don't have to
say a lot about the defending champions, all right. As
(01:22:28):
we've always said, even with Brady in New England, it's
very difficult to repeat. But when you have a standard
of excellence and you've got Pat Mahomes and Andy Reid,
the likelihood of the Chiefs getting to the Super Bowl
is far greater than them falling on their butt or
on their face. They're a little younger on the edges. Defensively,
(01:22:49):
they may struggle to close out some games early. We
already saw that against Detroit. However, I really think if
Travis Kelsey had been on the field, it's hard for
me to think the Chiefs wouldn't have found a way
to win that game because you got Patrick Mahomes. So
it's very difficult to repeat. But be against the Chiefs
at your own risk. They're going to be in the dance.
(01:23:11):
The question is how many home playoffs games do they
get in January? All right? The Eagles, this is a
little bit more of a complicated projection because rarely does
the loser of a Super Bowl return to the big game.
It's especially true when your coaching staff has been purged.
They lost both of their coordinators. Now, one thing, Howie
(01:23:32):
Roseman does man? Does this guy do it better than anybody?
He did an incredible job of retooling and left room
for their most important veteran players to remain. All right,
as long as you got Jason Kelsey, Lane Johnson and
Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox. Guess what they're supporting the
new Young Bucks Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith.
(01:23:55):
Philly's defense is good. It's a high level defense and
gonna be an interesting game in New England Sunday, New
England catching four at home. Don't be surprised if New
England covers that spread and it even went out right.
The super Bowl hangover is not something that's imaginary. Teams
who lose the Super Bowl three to fifteen in their
(01:24:17):
last eighteen since two thousand and five covering week one. However,
watch the Eagles from there, all right. I don't know
that they'll get back to the super Bowl, but if
they do, they can win it. And they have to
make my top twelve. The Bills. I look at a
team that is still a super Bowl caliber team even
(01:24:38):
though they didn't even make it last year. I get it.
People are underestimating the emotional weight and the toll it
took on the Bills last year, from the minute they
started to when they had to confront the idea of
possibly losing a valued team, and on the on field incident.
I think Buffalo was mentally exhausted. Thanksgiving Week they had
(01:25:01):
to go to Detroit twice. They played Detroit Thanksgiving Day
as part of a schedule game, but the Sunday before
they had to go there to play a game as well,
because there was like forty billion feet of snow in Buffalo.
Then they lost von Miller. They had a whole host
of things happen. I think they were mentally exhausted do
(01:25:22):
not go to sleep on the Buffalo Bills. Now they
may get beat Monday night, and again it's week one.
It's week one, So they make my top five. Now
this the list drops off here and I have to
hold my nose listing this team because they're really built
to do well in the regular season and then right
(01:25:42):
on schedule, you just know Dak or somebody will stink
it up. They'll do something wrong. Mike McCarthy, I can't
predict what it'll be because what Dallas does on the
postseason is so bizarre it almost defies belief. But look
at how not only how Dallas went out the last
two seasons, but look how they went out in those
(01:26:04):
final plays. The bottom line is, though I also think
that Dallas is gonna miss Kellen Moore. All right, they
bring in Brian Schottenheimer. You know, I still view that
Dallas is a very dangerous regular season team, but I
(01:26:28):
just can't. I'm in a heart between a rock and
hard place, because how do you not have Dallas on
the list with that roster in that defense. But you
just know when they get to the postseason, they're gonna
be like a drunk cross again Icy Street to just stupid,
So hold that thought. I'm putting the Jets on this list. Man.
They got the NFL's best player in the secondary, a
(01:26:50):
really good set of players up front. You've got your
Hall of Fame quarterback, last year's offensive rookie, the year
at wide receiver. Please Breese Hall, stay healthy, Dalvin Cook,
do your thing. And I think the Jets went through
this cleansing stage and this metical morphosis. Now that this
is a franchise, it might just be their turn. It
might just be their time. And I think you've got
(01:27:13):
an angry Aaron Rodgers. I really believe that. And the
last time he was angry, he went back to back MVP.
So look, if the Jets can truly flip that switch. Now,
I realized their first seven games with a buy mixed
in there is a bit of a gauntlet. But the
idea is to get to the dance. Get to the dance,
(01:27:33):
stay healthy. Wild card teams win the Super Bowl. I'm
not saying that's the preferable route, but get to the dance,
and they can take a great stride toward that. In
a home Monday night divisional game, We'll see what happens.
I'm going to put the Baltimore Ravens on this list. Clearly,
I would say it would have to be a really
(01:27:54):
weird state of affairs not to include Baltimore on a
list of potential Super Bowl winners, even if it's been
more than a decade since they made their last trip
to the title game. And now you've got a new
OC and Todd Monkin and Lamar Jackson, and I think
you're gonna see some wrinkles that will really propel Lamar
Jackson into almost elite status. He is elite, but if
(01:28:19):
you really want to be elite, you got to get
to a super Bowl and you've got to have more
success than La mars Ad in the postseason. Right. So, Mankin,
you know he spent time at Georgia and he has
he understands how to use an arsenal, and I think
you will see Baltimore utilize Jackson as a runner and
(01:28:43):
a spread quarterback, a legit spread quarterback who is going
to through for a lot of yards. And an offense
it's a little bit more pass happy. But if you're
an opposing defensive coordinator, you're going to take one look
at this offense and say, oh my god, how do
I for this team. How do I prepare for this team?
(01:29:03):
You're gonna look at Lamar Jackson. You're gonna say, Okay,
I got to prepare two game plans. I got to
prepare a game plan, A for the play that they call,
and then for the one where the play breaks down
and they go off script and Lamar Jackson is making
us wish we hadn't gotten out of bed that day.
(01:29:26):
Baltimore's defense should offense should be very prolific this year.
It may not be the first two or three weeks.
Be patient. I told you the quality teams take time
to jail. But as the season goes on, I expect
Baltimore's offense to do a lot. Now it starts to
drop off heavily here because I don't like Brandon Staley,
but I do like the Chargers, and I like their roster.
(01:29:46):
This year, the rubber is going to have to meet
the road, all right. I think the Chargers have some
defensive vulnerabilities, but I think when you can consider their
talent at quarterback and the roster they have, the Chargers absolutely. Now, again,
(01:30:07):
they got Kansas City in their division. But if you
know you got a coach who likes to you know,
tell us how smart he is with the thing called analytics,
which is nothing more than information analytics. Tell us what
happened yesterday? Says Yeah, we had to go for it
there because the computer told us that we'll make it,
you know, two percent more of the time. Okay, that's
(01:30:28):
simulated on about one thousand projections. But you got one
game played by human beings, one shot to do it,
and you seem to not be able to do it.
I think Steve Hartman brought up a great point. If
you're just gonna live on analytics, what do you need
to coach for? Well, all right, Brandon Stay, they could
screw this up, but the Chargers will be really good now.
This one. I really had to hold on those. I
told you that the less drops off, But don't rule out.
(01:30:50):
Don't completely go to sleep on the Cleveland Browns. Okay
you have to. I don't know what we're going to
get out of Deshaun Watson this year. It's not automatic
that he shows up and is a god given right
to do what he did back in twenty nineteen. And
I would say the new rule changes help him. But
(01:31:12):
I would say Watson had, you know, was part of
some very well coached Texans teams, and those teams had
a lot of talent. You just forgot right. They had
ten win seasons, eleven and win seasons. This Cleveland team
on paper is good. You just don't know what they're
gonna gel. I don't know. I'm gonna also put the
Lions on the list.
Speaker 6 (01:31:31):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
Listen, I've talked about it a thousand times over the
past few months. This is not the same roster. Do
not hold the sins of what happened in the past.
And I covered a lot of crazy Lions teams, including
the oh and sixteen Rod Marinelli. Look, Matt Millan's not
there anymore. Brad Holmes is he actually knows what he's doing.
(01:31:52):
Just look at his recent drafts. Look at how they
managed to go out and get Cam Sutton and Chauncey Gardner,
Johnson and Emmanuel They draft Jack Campbell well. By the way,
Brian Branch who I was told making plays right and
laughing in practice, he gets a pick six is his
first game ever. The Lions have the ninth easiest schedule,
four ninety two winning percentage. They're already one to er.
(01:32:15):
You can't look it would be a pretty big leap,
but don't count the Lions out. They got a quarterback
has already been to one Super Bowl. He hasn't thrown
an interception of three hundred and fifty nine straight passes.
That's pretty good. Now, you might look at me on
this one because you know, coming up in the rear
number twelve, you may he don't drive your car off
(01:32:36):
the road. I'm actually putting the Patriots on the list.
I'm not a Bilichick hater, and I know they've been
five hundred since Brady left, but they're gonna feel the
top ten defense and they're not trying to tear down
their robster. They're not trying to tank, not turn into anything.
I love the fact that Bill O'Brien is back. I mean,
they should have made the playoffs last year. They had
(01:32:58):
a goofy situation with the Raiders and that play I'm
not gonna run you through it. I can't believe. I mean,
Matt Patricia is an offensive coordinator? Are you kidding me? Okay,
Bill O'Brien's gonna have an impact. Mac Jones can actually play.
I can give you the full scouting report like I
used to. He sees the field extremely well. He's got
a better arm. You realize he's fit for that offense. Look,
(01:33:21):
the thing about the Patriots is they're not gonna make
a lot of mistakes and beat themselves. And again, if
you just get into the damn dance, you got a shot.
So do I like the Patriots better than some other
teams that are here? Of course, like I'm a hell
of a lot better than the Bears. I don't think
the Packers are going to the Super Bowl. I don't
think the Vikings are. I can start naming teams right
(01:33:43):
and left. If you play defense, ball, control field position,
don't turn the ball over, we'll see. It's a long shot.
But there have been long shots before. Speaking of that,
you know, eighteen in the last twenty years, and twice
in twenty eighteen, at least one team has gone from
last to first in the NFL. Who's got the best
(01:34:05):
shot to do it? Well? I'll give your thoughts on
that as well. On Bernie Fraddlework Company Live from Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio, tirach dot Com Studios. Keep it locked.

Tonight show brought to you by Discover. At the end

the cash back you've earned. That's right, everything you've earned doubled.
(01:34:48):
Seriously see terms. Check it out for yourself and Discover
dot com slash match. All right, it's happened eighteen in
the last twenty years. Twice in twenty eighteen. Remember Mitch
Trubisky in the Bears twelve and four. Yep, they went
from last to first, almost won a playoff game had
it not been the double doink field goal. But I digress,
(01:35:09):
all right, It seems ironic that I would mention the
Jets is one of the teams I believe, one of
the twelve teams. I believe they can win the Super Bowl.
So in order to do that, they got to get
out of last place, what could they go from last
to first? Well, they could, They don't need to, but
they could. Here's the case doesn't need to be said.
Rogers arrival immediately trand for in this team into a
(01:35:32):
legitimate AFC contender. They had enough of a supporting cast
last year to be seven and four before the wheels
came off and they isolated the problem. Zach Wilson's not ready.
He may never be ready, but he sure as that
wasn't ready last year. So even if Aaron Rodgers' performance
is just, you know, eighty percent of what it used
(01:35:56):
to be, you've got raining offensive Rookie of the Year
and Garrett Will, you got Breise Hall, you got Dalvin Cook,
he's got his familiar face as Alan Lazar and Randall Cobb.
And for good measure, Rogers is gonna have as many
skilled players as he's ever had in terms of depth
and numbers. The case against well, Rogers is raving about
(01:36:17):
how much fund he's having, and he's drawing all these
great reviews from his teammates. But we don't know is
how do things react if you have an early roadblock.
Now I mentioned their early schedule a minute ago, but
I didn't get specific. Now I'm going to get specific.
They open up with Buffalo, Jets open up with Buffalo
(01:36:39):
Monday night. I think the Jets are gonna win that game.
I really do. And you know what, I do like Dallas,
but that's during the postseason. During the regular season, they're tough.
So here's who the Jets get, Bill's Dallas Patriots. Well,
Jets could find themselves in a bad spot just four
weeks into the season. I'm not saying they're going to
be in a bad spot, but what happens if things
(01:37:00):
don't start the way they want them to? Right? Rogers,
he said he's not going to embarrass anybody. He's reticent
to air out issues in any critical remarks. It will
be all kept on the professional but they're gonna be
closely scrutinized in New York. And one of the things
I'm curious to see. It doesn't take much. All Rogers
(01:37:23):
need is one bad headline on the back page of
the New York Post. I don't think he's gonna do
with it. Well, he'll try, but I don't want to
create pomps don't exist yet and try to solve My
bottom line is this the FC East is going to
be a treacherous division, so it's anybody's guests who comes
out on top. I don't excuse me. I don't think
(01:37:44):
it'll be New England, Okay, but I think if we
woke up in January and it was Miami, I wouldn't
be surprised. Buffalo wouldn't be surprised. Jets wouldn't be surprised.
But you gotta do it. Could they go worse to first?
They could? Jets have a shot the team. I think
that's got the best shot to do it. And I
really mean this is Atlanta. First of all, they are
(01:38:06):
in in the most advantageous decision of division to make
this happen. There really aren't any established contenders in the
NFC South, and you might only need to win nine
or ten games, maybe nine and get into a wild
card to win to win that division. I'm not sold
on New Orleans. I just wait. Okay. I saw what
(01:38:28):
Derek Carr can do, and it really mattered. There's a
reason he was sixty three and seventy nine and just
started never won a playoff game. He's a good guy.
He can throw a nice ball, but in high level
situations when heat gets hot, it's hard to breed, and
you gotta put a team on your back. Nah, I don't.
I'm I'm not big on them. Carolina's got a rookie
(01:38:50):
quarterback and we don't know what we got in Tampa Bay. However,
the Falcons make the list. I'm curious to see what
how the Falcons used b John Robinson. We were talking
about a running back with as much hype as we've
had in years, and he can live up to it.
The case against Atlanta, of course, is you really don't
know what you're gonna get with Desmond Ritter. He's too new,
(01:39:13):
right they hand him the keys to the car. The Falcons,
I wouldn't say they're the strongest team of eighty the
eight that were finished last last year, but none of
the other franchises have this ripe of an opportunity with
the division are in Okay, the Bears, they finished last.
They're not going from last to first. Let's just please
get back and past the Bears. Now the Cleveland Browns.
(01:39:36):
You can make a real case for the Cleveland Browns
because of the eight teams and finished last. Really, who
can claim the kind of difference maker Cleveland has potentially
in Deshaun Watson, three time Pro bowler. Well, we don't
know if he's going to be the Deshaun Watson of
old or Deshaun Watson of last year. So the bottom
(01:39:59):
line is they're gonna be very heavily relying on the
Sean Watson. But Jim Jim Schwartz in the new defense,
he's bringing in the physical latitude in Cleveland and the
fact that for whatever reason they've had Cincinnati's number. We'll
see what kind of start to get off to with
that pass rush and their weapons, and you gotta love
the running backs. Cleveland on paper can do it. Coming up,
(01:40:23):
we'll take a look. Can the commanders Broncos? Dare I
say Texans? And surely you just Arizona Cardinals. Could one
of them go from last to first? Well at least
we'll give them their Dan Court and you can make
up your own mind. But first let's go back to
our guy, Kevin the chef wire with the latest.
Speaker 5 (01:40:44):
I'll take that there, Bernie. We got a slate of
NFL injury news coming in first room, Ian Roppenport and
NFL Network forty nine Ers tight end George Kittle is
listed as questionable with the Grony injury. However, he did
say that Kittle is expected to play. Seahawks first round
cornerback Devon Witherspoon is dealing with a hamstring injury. He
(01:41:05):
is not expected to make his NFL debut today. Giants
tight end Darren Waller is expected to play today. He
did pop up on the injury report late this week
with a hamstring issue. However, Mike Garifullo and Ian Rappaport's
saying Waller will go. Ramandre Stevenson is questionable with an illness,
but he wasn't in meetings on Saturday and he should
(01:41:26):
play on Sunday. While Devonte Parker is questionable because of
a knee he is not expected to play. Romeo Dobbs
of the Packers, dealing with a hamstring injury, is expected
to play today, but he likely will not have a
full compliment of snaps and Ian rappaportals is saying Marquise
Brown with a hamstring injury and Zach Ertz with a
knee injury, are both expected to play today. They were
(01:41:48):
listed as questionable. Adam Schefter has some injury news as well.
Jerry Judy not expected to play. He had that hamstring
issue as well. And then Mark Andrews, who has dealt
with a quad injury. He is not likely to play
today versus the Houston Texans in the college ranks, so
it was an exciting day of college football Week two.
On Saturday, Number three Alabama upset at home by number
(01:42:11):
eleven Texas thirty four to twenty four, the Longhorns with
three straight touchdowns in that fourth quarter. Number ten Notre
Dame beats NC State on the road forty five twenty four.
Number twelve Utai come from behind win against Baylor twenty
to thirteen, as the Utes getting two touchdowns late in
that game with two minutes to go. Number seventeen North
Carolina beats in state Appalachian State forty thirty four double overtime.
(01:42:34):
Number eighteen Oklahoma over SMU twenty eight to eleven. Washington
State gets the upsot over number nineteen Wisconsin at home.
Thirty one twenty two Number twenty Ole Miss goes to
New Orleans and beats number twenty four two Lane thirty
seven to twenty and it's primetime in Colorado as number
twenty two, the number twenty two Buffs beat their rival
the Nebraska Cornhuskers thirty six to fourteen and college game
(01:42:57):
Day going to Boulder for the first times. It's nineteen
ninety six. Next Saturday, win the Buffs host Colorado State
and number twenty three Texas A and m I'm blown
out by Miami forty eight to thirty three. Back to you, Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
You know Big newon kickoffs is also going to go
to Boulder next week.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
They're staying there again. Yep, you're right, they're staying there inaudible.
Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
Will the chef be in Boulder next week? Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:43:21):
Colorado? It's left from from South Park.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
Right, that's right, baby, that's right. So I'll tell you what,
maybe about an hour from now, warm up those pipes,
try get a little chef going. All right, all right,
that's Kevin Wired, Thanks Buddy, Washington Commanders. Could they dare,
I say, go from worst to first? Well, yeah, well
they believe it or not. We're the only fourth place
(01:43:47):
finisher in the National Football League among all eight divisions
last year that didn't have a losing record. They are
actually eight eight and one, and this is a team
that isn't going to be You're not gonna go down
without a fight. Okay, you're gonna get an effort every week.
And I think Eric Banamy is gonna do some real
good things there there. And and you know, if Chase
(01:44:09):
Young could just get healthy. I mean, between Darren Payne
and Montes Sweat and Jonathan Allen, they got an excellent
force him on the defensive line. The problem is you're
really gonna have to flash to go from last to first.
All right, Sam how I'm hearing great things, but he's
(01:44:34):
got a lot, you know, he he's got a long
way to go before you you know, he can maybe
put a team on his back go from last to first.
And you know, Jacoby Brissette is good in a in
a pinch, But if something happens to Sam how you
really can't you really can't count on Jacoby Brissette to
get you the Promised Land. Or I do believe Eric
(01:44:56):
Banamy will have a real influences. I've always respected Ron Rivera,
but none of his offenses have ever finished in the
top twenty. That's saying something, Okay. So the bottom line is,
although Washington's dealt with turmoil, they've been under new ownership,
Ron Rivera has been a real trooper. But unless Sam
(01:45:19):
Howell turns into it, you know, an absolute difference maker,
crazy game breaker guy. I don't think there's enough juice
for this team to make this massive leap to go
from maybe you know, eight wins to eleven or twelve wins,
which is probably gonna take. They're in a good division, okay,
make no mistake about it, but look, you'd never know.
(01:45:41):
No one thought the twenty eighteen Bearers was Mitch Trbitsky
would go from last to first, and they ended up
being twelve and four. All Right, The Broncos are an
unknown quantity. Okay, we get it. They're blaming it all
on Nathaniel Hackett, and now it feels like if Sean
Payton doesn't get over the hump this year, they'll just
(01:46:02):
blame it on Russell Wilson. Who The question is, can
Russ go back and cook or is Russ cooked? I
don't know, none of us know. You heard Kevin's update.
They're already down Jerry Judy with that receiving core. They
might be better off with Judge Judy. I don't know
what you're talking about. Just all kinds of bad karma,
bad luck, whatever you want to call for Denver, but
(01:46:23):
they get the Raiders Week one, but that you know,
that may be a tough game. The Raiders have beaten
Denver six st eight times. But again I digress. Here's
the question. If you can answer this question, you're not
smarter than me. Can Sean Payton really get a thirty
four year old quarterback who was supposed to be the
franchise savior to completely change his paradigm and become serviceable again?
(01:46:47):
He's gonna have to be a lot more serviceable. That
is a sixty four dollars question. The first order of
business needs. They need to beat the Raiders, who they
haven't beaten six times, and they need to somehow, you know,
pin the bear against the Chiefs. They almost had the
Chiefs beat last the summer, and I were so, look,
Denver can do it, But now they have to and
(01:47:07):
they will have a top ten defense. Now, these next
two teams, I'm only mentioning them because well they both
finished last last season, the Houston Texans. So you know,
Davis Mills, I don't think it's that bad, but he
wasn't going to get you to a super Bowl. I
don't think CJ. Strown is going to do it anytime soon,
(01:47:28):
But I like Demico Ryans. I like the defensive players
they've added. I like how they've beefed up their offensive lines.
But it's difficult to look at a team that had
the third worst point differential last year. Houston gave up
one hundred and thirty one more points than they scored
last year. Hopefully Demico Ryans closes that gap for one
(01:47:49):
simple reason. He's great defensive coordinator, a great defensive mind.
Now he's a head coach, so he'll bring I think
he'll set a different tone of different culture. Having said that,
Houston still got a score points as well. They're ten
point dog in Baltimore Sunday, eight and a half hours
from now, so it'll be an interesting acid test to
see how Euston does. Don't be surprised if Damiko Ryans
(01:48:12):
does improve this team right away. But I don't think
they elite frog Jacksonville. That would be setting the bar
way too high. Speaking of the bar, or the bar
hopefully is open in Arizona, you're gonna need it all right.
I don't know what this regime is looking to do.
Everybody tells us what they're looking to do. This is
(01:48:34):
the worst roster in the league, with all due respect.
It is the National Football League, so these things are relative. Right.
What do they say if you finish last in medical school,
they call you a doctor? I don't know, you know
that that applies to the NFL. The Cardinals went on
to four against the Niners and Seahawks last year, losing
those games by combined seventy three points. You kind of
(01:48:57):
have to win games against your division to go from
last to first. So both of those contenders are strong.
Arizona is looking to bottom out. The gap is larger
than it's ever been. Look, it's smart to hope for
reasonable expectations, and I think the expectation is it appears
(01:49:20):
that Arizona is working diligently to get that number one
pick in twenty twenty four. Seems like a familiar spot
for them. How long ago was it that they drafted
what was his name, Josh Rosen. He wasn't number one,
but he's like ninth overall, and he was going to
show those knuckleheads that the eight quarterbacks drafted ahead of him?
(01:49:42):
How's that working out? And then they drafted Kyler Murray
very high. And I like Kyler Murray. But something has
gone all right? I honestly think it could be the
Atlanta Falcons. I really mean that. The Atlanta Falcons for
me are the team i'd watch more to go for
worse to first, And who knows, maybe it's one of
(01:50:03):
those years. There have been two in the last twenty
where nobody goes from worse to first. Look, the Jets
can do it, but they're in a brutal division. Atlanta
can do it. They're not the Jets, but they're in
a much easier division. That's just simply a fact. Coming up,
They're gonna honor a guy in New England tomorrow before kickoff.
You may have heard of him. Let's give the man
(01:50:24):
his flowers. Take your one last trip down memory lane
for a guy who I remember when I was in
Michigan at WTKA and an Arbor walked into coach Lloyd
Carr's office and said, Coach I should be starting And
Coach Carr looked at him and says, Tom, worry about yourself.
That's advice for here and advice for life. Seem to
(01:50:45):
work out. Let's take a second to remember Tom Brady.
I'm Bernie fraddlework coming to your life from Las Vegas,
Fox Sports Radio, Tireck dot Com studios. Keep it locked
listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio. All
right back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
You'll come to you live from the tirerac dot Com
studios here in Las Vegas. Top of the hour dance
(01:51:08):
sensation sweep in the nation. What kind of brand new
fool you followed by? What my name? Sunday? Tom Brady
will be honored in New England and recognized in what
a story way more than a Hollywood script. And I've
been very fortunate because I was in Michigan when Tom
Brady arrived on campus, and he was number seven on
(01:51:32):
the depth chart, and there was never any guarantee anything
would happen in Michigan. He was behind Brian Greasy his
freshman year. Frankly, he guided the scout team incredibly well,
but it was going to be a while before he
got on the field. And of course Michigan brought in
Drew Henson through Henson decided he wanted to go try
(01:51:53):
his luck with the New York Yankees, and Lloyd Carr
tried to tell him Son he can't climb too mountains.
At the same time, that opened up the door for Brady.
The rest is history. The bottom line is, you know,
Tom Brady had situations where there may or may not
have been an opportunity, but whatever happened, he always made
(01:52:15):
the most of it, and it was never easy, truthfully.
Matter of fact, the story goes the first time Tom
Brady ever even started the game as a quarterback, he
was a junior varsity scrimmage in high school and he
was so overwhelmed and over matches high school coach that
he felt like quitting and had him to the nearest
bar for a drink. That's not a made up story.
(01:52:35):
That's a true story. Brady will tell you himself. He
was the backup quarterback his freshman year. The backup quarterback
is freshman year in high school on a team that
wenth to eight. Yet he made it to Michigan seventh string,
had a hard time getting to be number two. And
when he got to number one, I told you, Drew Henson,
(01:52:56):
they wanted him to be number one. Blah blah blah.
Figure it out. Oh, by the way, yes, he was
a sixth round pick, one hundred ninety ninth though overall,
Drew Blutsoe, he gets behind Drew Bledsoe, he gets the opportunity,
and I think he never forgot how hard it was
to get to this point. Tom Brady threw for almost
(01:53:18):
fourteen thout or check that he threw for He threw
almost fourteen thousand passes twenty three years in the league.
These are records. I don't think he'll ever be broken.
All Right, You're talking about a quarterback who basically in
the postseason alone because of his exploits, played an additional
three full regular seasons because he played forty eight games
(01:53:40):
in all. Brady's record in the playoffs thirty five and thirteen,
including seven on the biggest stage, an incredible record. Nobody
had ever even won the Super Bowl MVP four times
before Brady won it five times. So there's actually been talked.
Do I think it'll happen.
Speaker 10 (01:54:02):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
You know, they currently call the award the MVP Award,
the Pete Rosell Trophy. People have the tongue in cheek mentioned.
Maybe not so tongue in cheek. Maybe they call the
award the Tom Brady Award. Do I think that'll ever happen? No,
But the NBA recently did some things but their awards
honoring great players, So you know, I'm not going to
argue whether or not Tom Brady is the greatest football
(01:54:27):
player of all time. I think Jim Brown was, But
I think Brady's got the best resume of any athlete
in the history of sports. I really believe that the resume. Okay,
I also think Brady's going to be Remember this the
game's ultimate testament to the human spirit. They still show
on ESPN and you've probably watched it a hundred times.
(01:54:48):
Those crazy photos and videos of Tom Brady with his
shirt off at the two thousand pre draft combine. He
has no muscle definition. He looks soft. He was called
soft by a giant Scott named Whitey Walsh. Maybe needed
a tan too. But an hour after he was drafted
(01:55:09):
one hundred and ninety ninth by Bill Belichick on the
New England Patriots, Brady called up his best friend at
Michigan at the time, guy by the name of Jay Flaneley.
Brady says, I am going there to take Drew Bletsoe's job. Now,
mind you, at the time, you've just forgotten Bretzel was
the franchise face of the you know, Patriots, a future
(01:55:32):
one hundred million dollars quarterback, and Brady actually did take
his job, never gave it back. You talk about a
triumph of willpower. I mean what Brady had to go through.
Look to get to that point, I don't know, you
know if anybody else could do it again. And look
(01:55:54):
it ended up. I think it cost him his marriage.
He got divorced in October and what you know, the
middle of what looked like would be Brady's final season,
he ended up going eight to nine. He threw sixty
six times in that seventeen point loss to the Cowboys
in the first round. Realized enough was enough. I realized
the Niners would have taken him in a second. I
know that Josh McDaniel Raiders would have taken him. Probably
(01:56:17):
could have played another two or three seasons. He even
said at one point he played a forty five back
in twenty seventeen, and he says, yeah, I think that's
a pretty good number. For now. You know, his love
for the sports are going to go away, that won't change.
So Brady really went out on his terms. Okay, he
won more championships in football than Michael Jordan won in basketball.
(01:56:38):
And let's just say this that you know Brady has
admitted many times there are many more players blessed with
more ability, but I don't think anybody did more. They
what they were given, all right. And here's a guy
who was worried about being cut as a rookie, ended
up selling life insurance and many consider him to be
(01:56:59):
the undisputed any way you slice it. He get his
flowers Sunday, New England, and yes they are very well deserved.
With Tom Brady under center, you always had a chance
to win, and that includes very much in college and
certainly in the National Football League Coming up? What kind
of brand new fool of you? And what my name
(01:57:19):
keep it locked? Listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on
Fox Sports Radio, Well, that's right, you heard the man,
The Bernie Frattle Shows, rolling right along. We're coming you

come to that time of the week two am Pacific,
five am Eastern where we have a little fun. The
dance Sensations sweep of the nation, because you see every
(01:58:00):
day across this great land of ours, and certainly around
the entire globe was you will find out and you've
heard over the last couple of years, people engage in activities,
questionable activities, odd activities. Sometimes they're innocuous and humorous. Sometimes
they're very serious, and they can land you in jail.
(01:58:21):
But regardless of the event, regardless of the activity, regardless
of the behavior, each and every time they leave you
scratching your head and asking yourself, what kind of brand
new fool are you?
Speaker 12 (01:58:38):
So?
Speaker 1 (01:58:41):
What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 6 (01:58:44):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
This one is a little interesting, as most of them are.
We will take you to Altoona, Pennsylvania. Say hello to
mister Alan Fhalin, forty six years old. You know, he's
just kind of tooling around his apartment one day, picked
up the phone and called the police. He asked the
police to come to his apartment on fifteen Avenue why Well.
(01:59:09):
According to the criminal complaint, mister Phelan claimed that someone
broke into his apartment by breaking his window. However, when
police arrived, they said there were no signs of anybody
trying to force their way into the apartment and when
asked if he knew anything was missing, well, he invited
police to come inside. Mister Phelan gave them a tour
(01:59:33):
where a police started to see some things like certain
pills sitting in an open safe. Now, mister Phelan allegedly
told the cops he keeps him in various places in
case he has a panic attack. Unfortunately, when police asked
to see a prescription, he was unable to produce one.
While also when the apartment police found a pill bottle
(01:59:56):
with white powder he was out in clear view, along
with his small measuring spoon and some white residue. All
police then took Fling into custody. They got a search
warrant and according to the complaint, as they looked around
a little further, here's what they found in mister Phalen's apartment.
Forty one grams of fentanel, seventy one packages died A
(02:00:19):
twenty five THO, thirteen grams of meth, twenty grams of marijuana,
nine sybox own strips, twelve colonus of PAM. Well, this
is a lot of drugs and on electronic scale, various
sized baggies, smoking devices in small glass phials twisted tops. Oh.
By the way, it was also noted mister Phelan had
(02:00:40):
a previous possession with intent to deliver conviction. He was
placed in Blair County prison, bail said at fifty thousand dollars,
all because mister Phalan called the cops to come to
his house believing he'd been the victim of a residential burglary.
But instead of finding any breaking evidence, but the cough
(02:01:02):
found we're twenty five thousand dollars worth of fentanyl and
other dugs, which once again leaves us asking ourselves, mister
Phalan of Altuna, what kind of brand new fool are you? Okay, Kevin,
you're out, buddy.
Speaker 5 (02:01:15):
Well, it's never a smart thing to drive when under
the influence, but an identified twenty seven year old woman
from Texas I kind of took it to another level.
We go to Palm Springs here in southern California, the
low desert near where Coachella takes place, and she was
arrested for driving under the influence after not only did
(02:01:38):
she nearly missed some pedestrians, but she crashed into a
sign that said do not drink and drive. So unidentified
twenty seven year old woman from Texas out in Palm Springs.
Speaker 1 (02:01:51):
What kind of brand new fool are you.
Speaker 2 (02:01:53):
Driving into the sign that says don't drink and drive.
I love it, all right, Shay Morgan, guard you up, buddy.
All right.
Speaker 13 (02:02:02):
So this is honestly kind of like a true story
that happened to me. So growing up, I went to
college at ASU, and I went to college during COVID,
so that meant all of our assignments were turned in online.
So doing that, sometimes we would be late to warn
our assignments, and because of that, we would sometimes send
a file that was corrupted so that when the teacher
(02:02:25):
would open it, the corrupted file wouldn't open, and then
the teacher would think it's his fault, and then he
would have to send me an email back saying, hey,
can you resend this to me, and then it wouldn't
end up being late. So one of my friends ended
up doing this on is on one of the bigger
assignments for the year. And what we would usually do
is we would send that email with a corrupted file
(02:02:47):
and we would have basically a week to do this
assignment until the teacher realized that it was a corrupted
file and he wasn't able to open it. So then
my friend were I'm not going to.
Speaker 2 (02:02:58):
Say his name.
Speaker 13 (02:03:00):
He sends the email and he has basically a week
to do it. Never just totally forgets to read the
essay and turn it in, gets an email from my professor,
gets caught, gets a cheating contract, and that's when I
realized the type of friend my fool, The type of
fool of my friend.
Speaker 2 (02:03:17):
Is Oh boy, all right, Shae?
Speaker 13 (02:03:20):
Well I can't hear it?
Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
Then? Can you hear me? Shaye? Hello, Shae?
Speaker 1 (02:03:29):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Yeah? I can hear you, Shae? Can you hear me? See?
I got you? All right? All right, Shaye? Good stuff, buddy.
That concludes another rousing edition of what kind of brand
new fool are You? Of course, the second favorite bit
that we have Saturday nights heading him to Sunday morning
on The Bertie Frattle Show is something we lovingly refer
(02:03:50):
to as what my name? All right? So, Shay and Kevin,
you both model play this game. You're ready to get
all right? I recently retired as an NFL quarterback. Now
I have the distinction of being the all time leader
in past attempts in preseason games Kevin Wyrett.
Speaker 1 (02:04:13):
What my name, uh, Dan Orlofsky.
Speaker 2 (02:04:16):
That's an excellent guess. It's not him, That's an excellent guess.
I recently retired as an all time I checked out.
I recently retired as an NFL quarterback. But I have
the distinction of being the all time leader in pass
attempts during the preseason. Shay Mogngard, What my name hasselback?
(02:04:37):
It's actually Colt McCoy. Cult McCoy. Dude's been around. I'm
my god, you know I saw Colt McCoy in a
high school game in Texas back in two thousand and four. Anyway,
all right, this one, I think you guys are going
to get I'm the only human being in history to
have played in both the Super Bowl and of the
(02:04:58):
World Series.
Speaker 1 (02:04:59):
Kevin Wyrett name Dion Sanders.
Speaker 2 (02:05:01):
Dion Sanders, also known as coach Pram. All right, I'm
a famous rock star.
Speaker 1 (02:05:13):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (02:05:13):
By the way. As a personal guest of the New
York the New Orleans Saints, I became their number one
fan and attended their first ever game they played in
the NFL back in nineteen sixty seven. Shay Mogngar, what
my name, I'm.
Speaker 13 (02:05:29):
Gonna go out a limit, say Jimmy Buffett.
Speaker 2 (02:05:31):
Nicely done, Jimmy Buffett. The end of the show, I'm
gonna give Jimmy Buffett a little bit of flowers. Man,
who's got quite a story. We lost him this past week,
but I'll tell you what. For five decades he absolutely
was an American icon of fixture, and believe it or not,
(02:05:52):
never had a number one hit, but it didn't matter.
I'll tell you what Jimmy Buffett's straw was at the
end of the show. All Right, I'm the last New
York Jets quarterback to throw for four thousand yards in
a season. Kevin Wyrett, what my name?
Speaker 1 (02:06:07):
Say? One more time?
Speaker 2 (02:06:09):
I'm the last New York Jets quarterback to throw for
four thousand yards in a season.
Speaker 5 (02:06:15):
I Am just gonna take a wild guess and say,
Carrie Collins.
Speaker 2 (02:06:19):
Not Carrie Collins, I'm the last New York Jets quarterback
to throw for four thousand yards. She Morgan Guard what
my name fits? Who fits magic? No good, guess it's
actually a guy by the name of Joe Willie Namath.
Believe it or not, that long ago Joe Namath. We
expect Aaron Rodgers to do it, though, sooner rather than later.
(02:06:41):
Let's fip to baseball. Just this past week, I became
the second youngest player to hit three home runs in
my first five major league games. Kevin Wyrett, what my name?
Speaker 13 (02:06:55):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
Give you a kleoe? He played for the Yankees? All right,
all right, I just became this past week as a
member the Yankees and second youngest player to hit three
home runs in my first ever five Major league baseball games.
Shame Moganar? What my name? So?
Speaker 13 (02:07:15):
I know his last name is the Mingos, but I don't.
I don't know his first name.
Speaker 2 (02:07:18):
How don I give you credit? That's clost enough. Jason
di Vegas, Jason de Vegas. Now, interestingly enough, he became
the second youngest player. I'm actually the youngest player in
Major League baseball history to hit three home runs in
my first five major league games. Kevin Wyrett, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:07:42):
I'm gonna guess. Julia Rodriguez, what's a really good guess?
Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
Not him. I'm the youngest player in Major league baseball
history to hit three home runs in my first ever
five major league games. Shave Ogangar, what my name?
Speaker 13 (02:07:59):
Jimmy Wow?
Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
Good guess? Double X not him, Manny Machado. If you
can believe it, Manny Machadammember, he came on, came on
the scene like wildfire. I think his best days are
behind him, but what do I know? All right, let's
go back to football. I think you guys are gonna
get this one. I'm the only coach and you know,
(02:08:21):
here's what. Let me set this up. People were talking,
can Philadelphia get back to the Super Bowl? A great team? Right,
and you got a good team this year. It's rare,
rare when the Super Bowl loser gets back the following year. However,
I'm the only coach in NFL history to return to
the Super Bowl three times after losing the prior year.
(02:08:45):
Kevin Wyer what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:08:48):
Buffalo had I don't know his name. Whoever was coaching
the Bills in the nineties.
Speaker 2 (02:08:52):
I should get I'll give you a half credit, but
I you know, Judges won a lot. But I a
for the effort. For the effort. All right, let's see
if I'm the only NFL coach in history to return
to the Super Bowl three times after losing the prior year.
Seaan Ogngar, what my name? Oh?
Speaker 13 (02:09:12):
I think it's Oh my god, I'll.
Speaker 2 (02:09:20):
Give you, guys both the first name Marv. Oh I
got it. Levy, you got a good job. Guys, you
were dancing around and Kevin you had it, and you
both had it. You just could. I love Marv Levy.
I will tell you one of my favorite things to
do when I covered the Lions. First of all, they
fed us really good at Ford Field, fifth floor, walk
up the dining area, really good food. They're not joking.
(02:09:42):
I used to look around on game day a couple
hours before. You always either saw a celebrity or somebody
in the NFL, and I would love to strike up
conversations with people that I found interesting. Well, Marv Levy
had just written a great book. He was in the
he was there. It was like two thousand and four ish.
I'm going to say, Carl, where else would you rather be?
(02:10:04):
And it was the story that Bill's first trip to
the Super Bowl when they lost to the Giants, the miskick,
the missed field goal. So I got to talk it
to him. He was tremendous, and I said, coach, I
got such a kick out of your book because here
you are a guy who's forty years old and you're
still coaching in high school, you still had aspirations to
get to the NFL, and he did it. He looked
(02:10:24):
at me and he says, yeah, no, Bernie, I was
a JV coach at forty, so I just always got
a kick out of that. Marvel Levy a great guy,
Ivy League educated. I think his legacy in the NFL
is secure. Make fun of all you want. No, you
could go to four Super Bowls. You're not in the
Hall of very good. You're in the Hall of Fame.
All right, final one and if you are a Colorado
(02:10:47):
football fan, you will definitely get this one. I am
the only Colorado quarterback in history to finish top five
and Heisman voting Kevin Wyrett, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:10:59):
The only Colorado ter back I actually kind of know
of which is Cordell Stewart.
Speaker 2 (02:11:03):
It's not him, not him, But that's the damn good
guess and brings back another memory in nineteen ninety four
when Cordell Stewart hit Michael Westbrook on that final play
of the game. He was by the way he saw
Cordiele Stewart there today at the game. All Right, I'm
the only Colorado quarterback in history to finish top five
and Heisman voting. Shay Mogan Guard. What my name?
Speaker 13 (02:11:27):
Oh yeah, I don't think I can get this one.
Speaker 2 (02:11:29):
Oh yeah, No, it's actually Darien Hagen. It was a
tremendous option quarterback and as part of those great Colorado
teams in eighty nine and ninety that played for and
won the national championship. All right, that's gonna do it.
Great job guys on both. Coming up, We've got some
(02:11:52):

opening weekend of the NFL, and we'll have Shay Mogan
Guards aggressive power play of the day. I'm Bernie Fraddle.

the way, in case you haven't noticed, what Colorado is
doing is not a fluke. They have the best player
in college football and Travis Hunter plays both ways. One
hundred and twenty snaffs Saturday, one hundred and forty four
of the week before he could start for anybody in
the country either side of the ball. They've got a
quarterback in Shadora Sanders that will be a first round
draft choice when it comes out. He's got fabulous vision,
(02:14:03):
sees the field, exceptional footwork, great mechanics, throws a very
catchuple ball, you know, excellent arm, He's accurate his decision
making checks every box. That's a pretty good start when
you have those two. But let's not in there. Dion
Sanders has assembled a phenomenal coaching staff, led by their
(02:14:24):
offensive coordinator Sean Lewis, who came over from Kent State.
What he has done is create schemes and game plans
and personnel groupings that puts Shdor Sanders in position to
make the plays. And he's responded with over nine hundred
yards his first two games, only third all time in
(02:14:45):
first two PAC twelve performances behind guys like Jared Goff
and the like. Okay, by the way, give credit to
Colorado's offensive line. They've done well too. So great coaching staff,
best player in the country in the first round quarterback.
The thing that I noticed minute one about Colorado was
(02:15:05):
there incredible team speed on both sides of the ball.
Deon Sanders has collected a bunch of really fast football
players and fast football players. Reek have it. I noticed
it the opening kickoff against TCU a week ago. They
hadn't even played it down from line of scrimmage yet.
I'm kicking myself how they gonna cover this kick. I'm
(02:15:28):
really curious to see this. They were all over like
a hobo on a ham sandwich. I watched these guys
run their lanes. I ran it back like four times agoing,
oh my god, they got a bunch of guys that
can really run and play football. There you have it.
Big new kickoff heads back to Boulder next Saturday, as
it'll be an in state rival. I expect, I honestly
(02:15:50):
expect Colorado State to be at least a ten point favorite,
or check that not Colorado State. Colorado we'll see. I
haven't seen a send off line yet. I'm gonna get
this is gonna be around ten seriously, and then after
that it's gonna get real. Colorado will play Oregon and
USC after that and then get into the beef for
their you know, their PAC twelve schedule. But don't don't
(02:16:12):
go to sleep on this team. A couple things I'm
really gonna be watching for sure, in this NFL opening weekend,
Aaron Rodgers' debut expectations are high. What's it really gonna
look like when they get on the field money and
the real bolts start to fly and everything, everything you know,
matters so much pressure. Okay, if you are optimistic, then
(02:16:36):
you can say to yourself, it's not that outlandish to
compare what Green Bay is doing now to what Tampa
Bay did when they added Tom Brady three years ago
and immediately won a championship. All right, but this Rogers
addition is not without risk. With all due respect, Rogers
has shown multiple times over the past several years he
(02:16:57):
can be cantankerous when things don't go well. Now, on
the field, I get it right now, they're on their
honeymoon stage. They haven't lost a game yet. It seems
like a perfect fit for the Jets. Is it a
perfect fit for New York? There's just no way to know.
He spent his entire career in Green Bay. I mean,
(02:17:17):
this is a guy who had regular squabbles with the
media in Green Bay. What's it gonna look like when
he lands his first unflattering back cover on The New
York Post which I mentioned about an hour ago. It's
gonna happen. It's gonna happen. We don't know how Rogers
is gonna react. How he reacts will become the story.
And the Jets look at their schedule. The first seven
(02:17:39):
games not easy. I'm not gonna make predictions. We don't
do that. We don't handicap you know, well, you know
you might as well do all two hundred and seventy
two games. Are gonna do that. We're not gonna do that.
Rock Purdy another quarterback? What does Brock Purdy do for
an encore? Purdy's already been heavily scrutinized. I don't know
that it's fair. He's gonna be more heavily scrutinized as
(02:18:00):
the season goes on. He had an excellent debut as
a rookie. The natterers are throwing their full support behind him,
but there's a ton of pressure associated when you consider
the fact that, pretty in spite of what he's done
and these produced results, he's considered the quote quote unquote
the weak link on the team, as it were, because
this team has Super Bowl aspirations, a legit Super Bowl roster,
(02:18:24):
a championship caliber defense, and what did Perdy do. He
did a great job of being the concierge as it were,
were for eight games last year, never lost any of them. Now,
all of a sudden, whole different set of expectations when
it's different coming off the bench and you're quote unquote
(02:18:44):
mister irrelevant versus now you got the keys to the
car of a Super Bowl contender, and it's a different dynamic.
Just simply it's finally one other thing I'm really looking
forward to watching Bijon Robinson play. Can he be a
difference maker for Atlanta? To remember the last time a
rookie running back came into the league with this much hype.
The guy's a stud. If Atlanta gives Robinson the ball enough,
(02:19:06):
I'm telling you, this guy is crazy sick. He could
He could accumulate two thousand yards from scrimmage. That is
not hyperbole. He could do it. Coming up always stuff
to talk about, even though the World Cup is in
the rear view mirror. Talking about soccer. There are always news.
There's always news. There's always new names in the news.
(02:19:28):
You've heard them in the past year and a half,
whether it's Erling Holland or was he Mourinho Chris will
have a new one for you coming up. But first
let's go back to our guy, the chef. Yes, Kevin
Wyatt with the Lakers. I'm going to maiden love dude,
you wo man, I'm going to leave you down by
the bye y and corress your woman dam Now see
(02:19:51):
a lot of people thought that was a chef. That's
actually Kevin.
Speaker 1 (02:19:53):
Wyatt as yes, absolutely me.
Speaker 2 (02:19:56):
Ro I can tell you've been warming up those pipes,
ever been felling all? I can tell you that was
so good. I think you brought Kenny back to life.
Speaker 5 (02:20:03):
Oh yeah, only for him to die again and again
and again and again.
Speaker 2 (02:20:08):
And Cartman loved it. And I'm telling you, oh yes.
Speaker 1 (02:20:11):
Happy to have Cartman as a fan.
Speaker 2 (02:20:12):
There.
Speaker 5 (02:20:13):
NFL News, we've had Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter over
the night kind of giving us updates on certain players
with injuries that are whether or not they are expected
to play on Sunday or not. Ian Rappaport has a
few updates. George Kittle expected to play today. He's been
dealing with a growing injury. However, Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon
(02:20:33):
Witherspoon will not play. He's not expected to play at
least today, so he'll make his debut next week at
the Soonest. Darren Waller of the Giants had a hamstring injury.
He is expected to play today. That's according to Mike
Garafolo Ian Rappaport saying Ramandre Stevenson had an illness, but
he was in meetings. He's expected to play. However, DeVante
Parker questionable with a knee injury. He is not expected
(02:20:57):
to play Sunday. Romeo Dobbs of the Packers expected to play,
but he won't have a full compliment of snaps. While
the Cardinals Marquise Brown and Zach Ertz are expected to play,
they are both listened as questionable, and Adam Schefter saying
that Jerry Judy is not expected to play versus the
Raiders with his ham string injury. As for the college game,
(02:21:21):
we've had a couple of great games. Upset between Texas
and Alabama. The eleventh ranked Longhorns going on the road
to Tuscaloosa and they beat number three Alabama thirty four
to twenty four. Number nine Tennessee over FCSFO Austin p
thirty to thirteen. Although it was six to six late
in the first half. Tennessee off to a little bit
of a slow start there. The last game of the
(02:21:41):
evening was usc and this one really wasn't much of
a contest. Against Stanford, the Trojans win at fifty six
to ten. Number ten Notre Dame overcomes a lightning delay
to beat NC State.
Speaker 1 (02:21:51):
On the road forty five to twenty four.
Speaker 5 (02:21:52):
The lightning was so fierce it shorted out the scoreboard
there at Carter Finley Stadium there in Raleigh. Number twelve
Utah I come from behind win at Baylor in Waco
twenty to thirteen as the year's getting two touchdowns in
the final two minutes. Number seventeen North Carolina over app
State forty thirty four double overtime. Number eighteen Oklahoma beats
(02:22:13):
as semyear twenty at eleven Washington State with an upset
winning Pullman over ninety nineteen Wisconsin thirty one to twenty two.
Twenty aeth thrank Dole, miss goes to New Orleans and
beats Summer twenty four two Lane thirty seven to twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:22:25):
And it's prime time in Boulder.
Speaker 5 (02:22:27):
Number twenty two Colorado beating Nebraska thirty six to fourteen,
and I don't know if we've ever had both College
Game Day and Big Neon Kickoff in the same place,
but they're both going to be in Boulder next weekend
for ESPN's College Game Day. It's gonna be the first
time they've been there since nineteen at ninety six. And
(02:22:47):
we can't go get an update going without mentioning Coco Goff,
the women's champion, the first teenager to win the US
Open since Serena Williams did it back in two thousand
and one. She beats second seed Arena sable Anka.
Speaker 2 (02:23:02):
Back to you, Bernie, all right, Kevin O's standing stuff,
But I always appreciate it when you can work Austin
P into an update. I will never forget the nineteen
eighty seven March Madness Tournament. Austin P was I think
a fifteen seat in the upset number two Illinois, who
was a solid favorite to win the whole thing. I
happened to be at the Caesars Palace sports book. Austin
(02:23:24):
P actually had a traveling contingent, and every time they
made a basket and looked like the upset was inmant
they all stood up and said, let's go pee, Let's
go Pete. True story, true story. Aaron Toruso backed me
up on it. By the way, score updates six twenty
seven to go quarter to three. The Canadians, not the
Montreal Canadians, the Canadian basketball team. They've opened up a
(02:23:47):
sixty eight to sixty three lead over Team USA in
the fight for bronze. All right, at this time every
week in the Bernie Frautle Show. Yep, Soccer is an
international sport. It's a universal sport. It's in the news.
It's always in the news. And that's why we bring
you Chris Pherfetz World of Soccer.
Speaker 3 (02:24:06):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama. It's
all here in this report from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 12 (02:24:27):
The summer transfer window closed this week, Bernie, and once
more we reckon with the fact that the Premier.
Speaker 1 (02:24:33):
League might be too big.
Speaker 12 (02:24:35):
Here, for the third time in three years, Premier League
net spending on transfer window acquisitions surpassed one billion euros.
The grand total comes in right now at about one
point two nine billion euros, which is about one point
three nine million US dollars. Yeah, it's still not as
much as last year, which there pasted one point four
(02:24:55):
to four billion, But I think there was a reason
for that, and we'll get to it in a second.
It's important to know that transfer spending for teams can
be really difficult sometimes. Unlike over here in the United States,
clubs have their finances fairly private, although they often disclose
these two journalists for various reasons. It also doesn't include
(02:25:16):
any kind of free transfer or free agency deals, which,
while more rare and soccer versus North American sports, still
do happen from.
Speaker 1 (02:25:24):
Time to time.
Speaker 12 (02:25:25):
But with the net spend estimated at over a billion euros,
once again, it is once more putting into terms how
frustrating it can be sometimes for the modern landscape of
the Premier League. For the longest time, the Premier League
sold itself on being the top of the pile of
English soccer, but at the top of a pile that
(02:25:45):
was still attainable where clubs could still break in from
the championship and show themselves to be part of the
cream of the crop, where much like the NFL, on
any given weekend a team could beat another team on
the pit, but most of the spending is becoming concentrated
in the top teams and the teams that spend the
most are concentrated at the top of the table. Usually
(02:26:09):
one might say, okay, so what that all makes sense?
But consider that we're kind of in a situation much
like how college football has become, and Bernie I do
reach for the college football analogy more than something like
say George Steinbrenner and his Yankees, because at the very
least George Steinbrenner's Yankees still had a reasonable chance to
lose in spite of all their spending. It's not the
(02:26:30):
same playing field when we're talking about college football and
Premier League soccer anymore. Parody is being lost, and with
that lost parody comes with an elite cast of the
league where quite honestly, there's not a lot of chance
for them to ever slip and fall, and thus much
the drama is taken out of the Premier League. Likewise,
(02:26:50):
teams that come up, like say Lutontown this year, really
have no shot to ever compete, and the idea of
something like Lester City to win the whole thing in
a given year feels more and more far fetched. It's
also jarring to see this much spending at the top
when if you look at say the lower tiers of
English soccer, down in say League Two, the National League,
(02:27:14):
anywhere else on the pyramid. A lot of clubs are
facing financial woes and this money at the top is
not trickling down to the rest of the English ecosystem
that developed so much fine talent. The top of English
soccer ultimately is going to rest in the hands of
the big spenders, the elites, the Manchesters, the Liverpool's Tottenham
(02:27:36):
and maybe Newcastle.
Speaker 1 (02:27:38):
United who has joined those ranks.
Speaker 12 (02:27:39):
Things to an injection of Saudi money, and speaking of
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that might also be the
other story from this transfer window. It might also be
why the Premier League spending was slightly down this year
because the Saudi Pro League has shown that they are
willing to attack transfer targets in Europe and play as
(02:28:00):
play hardball in the same sense that many European leagues
and their clubs do when it comes to getting the
best talent around the world. Transfer to the Saudi Pro
League grabbed headlines across the world because that's exactly what
they were meant to do. They were meaning to go
after guys like Kareem Benzema and Naymar and Saudio Mane
(02:28:21):
and Gene Naldom. These are names that are meant to
draw the attention to the Saudi Pro League in turn
to hopes to do exactly what they've been able to
do this summer, which is to get other countries in
Europe and North America to carry the league, to pay
attention to the league. They, much like MLS, are in
the competition for eyeballs in a vast media market. And
(02:28:41):
right now, while I think MLS still has that inside
track thanks to the enduring power of Lionel Messi to
be a story every week in North America, rest assured,
the Saudis are not quite.
Speaker 1 (02:28:54):
Done just yet.
Speaker 12 (02:28:55):
And this is one that I think spooks leagues in
Europe a little bit more because are now competing for
their stars in a way that MLS hasn't quite done
just yet. And I think also MLS is aware of it.
In light of the Messy effect, there's been a lot
of talk among MLS owners to change a lot of
the rules that Major League Soccer currently relies on. As
(02:29:18):
we talked about before, Bernie, MLS is near unique among
the major players in world professional soccer in that it
has a salary cap that's normal for us. That's not
normal for soccer. And in addition to the salary cap,
there are a lot of rules about roster construction. There's
a lot of rules about designated players that don't count
(02:29:41):
against the salary cap versus those that do, and it's
a hard salary cap. It's not only stimmied the MLS
in getting big stars at times, it stopped them from
doing things that would allow them to have greater flexibility
in constructing their rosters in MLS, which would set up
those teams for better quality of play. It's a lot
of economic terminology here, but rest assured, Bernie, it's something
(02:30:04):
the MLS is aware of. They want better, more well
rounded rosters, and at some point they want to be
in a position so they can bring more players like
Lionel Messi over that are big name stars. But to
do that, the current rules have to change. MLS has
a great thing going with Lionel Messi right now, but
at some point it's going to hit a ceiling because
(02:30:27):
they can't bring more of him over.
Speaker 1 (02:30:30):
The rules have to change.
Speaker 12 (02:30:32):
I know this is a lot of financial talk, Bernie,
but it's one of these things that I am genuinely
fascinated by not just in this sport, but in all
other sports, especially college football as well.
Speaker 1 (02:30:42):
We are in an international break right now.
Speaker 12 (02:30:44):
Shout out to Lamine Lamal being the youngest player in
a European qualifying to score. Sixteen years fifty seven days
old and he scored for Spain in a seven to
one match against Georgia, not even seventeen. And he's playing
for the senior club for Spain and for Barcelona. All
accounts of scouting that I've seen says this kid might
(02:31:06):
be the next great thing to really come from Barcelona,
and it's a fascinating to watch him play forest national team.
Speaker 1 (02:31:13):
He's now the youngest.
Speaker 12 (02:31:14):
Player to score in a euroqualifying match, taking the record
from who Gareth Bale, who did it at seventeen years
eighty three days.
Speaker 1 (02:31:24):
And that is the world of soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:31:26):
All right, Thanks Chris. You know, pay attention to these
names because about a year ago Chris told us about
Earling Holland and here's a guy who scores goals like
Wayne Gretzky, and this is soccer. So these names have
a way of re emerging and popping up in the
news with real context and We're in an era now
(02:31:47):
where people are starting to recognize names. They know who
Messi is and the significance of him coming over to
play for Miami. No longer does the world of soccer
suffer from what I used to call the Canadian Football
League syndrome. Good games, but you don't know who's playing
and what the significance is. That's how I feel about
(02:32:10):
the Canadian Football League. With all due respect, soccer not
the same. Come it up, We wrap up the show,
and I give you a tribute to an American treasure
who passed this last week, but for five decades he
took it to an imaginary place where the beer was cold,
the people were warm, and both were served up in
generous doses. You'll know who I'm talking about in just
(02:32:33):
a minute. I'm Bernie Fraddle or Comedy Live from the
Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tire Act dot Com Studios.
Keep it lock listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, we're wrapping it up. Bernie
Fraddles Show Company Live from Las Vegas, tire Ac dot
Com Studios, Fox Sports Radio. Before I go any further,
I want to thank my broadcast team back in Los Angeles.
(02:32:54):
They've been with me since eleven pm Pacific on Saturday night.
Outstanding job tonight, guys, Mark Ramsey, our technical producer, all
the imaging keeping us glued together. Great job Kevin Wyatt
on the updates. Once again we thank him for his
rendition of the chef on the South Point. It has,
(02:33:17):
of course become a staple. Patrick Squeak a big help tonight,
as well as Sean Mogngard. Great job, guys, great teamwork.
Could not do the show without you. Before I get
to my tribute to a guy, well, let's see, he's
rhymes with Jimmy Buffett. I've made my decision, Titans plus
three against the Saints. I forgot i'd done my research earlier.
(02:33:40):
And by the way, I'm not a Derek Carr guy.
I'm just not. But I'm really not a Dennis Allan guy,
believe it or not. As a favorite in his career
twenty eight percent against the spread. Meanwhile, Mike Vrabel as
an underdog fifty nine percent, and Ryan Tannehill actually has
better numbers than Derek Carr last year. So before you
(02:34:00):
go too crazy about how great this New Orleans team
is going to be, pump the brakes for just a minute.
All right, we'll see. Maybe they get it done, maybe
they don't. But I'm gonna go where the value is.
And the Titans plus three to meet represent the value.
By the way, I got to take my medicine. I
had Stanford tonight too, but I also had UNLV so
I want one on one. But boy, that's Stanford. Wow.
(02:34:24):
One final thing is we head into the fourth quarter
foeb World Cup USA Canada. Canada has opened up a
nine point lead ninety one eighty two. Heading into the
fourth quarter. We shall see what we shall see. It's
gone over till it's over, Yogi, all right, this past
week we lost an American treasure. For what it's worth,
(02:34:45):
Jimmy Buffett never received critical acclaim for his guitar playing.
No one raved about a singing voice. He wasn't praised.
He's a great musician. In fact, Jimmy Buffett never even
had a number one hit. But to the Power story,
Jimmy Buffett took us to an imaginary place. The beer
was always cold, the people were always warm, both served
(02:35:06):
up in generous doses. We could go there whenever we wanted. Now,
I want to give a tribute to Jimmy Buffett, and
I think I have an idea why he was so
popular and resonated with people for five decades. Jimmy Buffett
was not a huckster. He didn't try to sell a
lot of music books, food boats. That was what he
was selling, Jimmy but said Jimmy Butler, Jimmy Buffett sold
(02:35:31):
escapism by using his great stories. Well. He took his
audience to places they wanted to go but maybe couldn't.
And Buffett wanted to be this shining example of a
care free life without stress. So whether it was a
song or a concert, or a radio station or a promotion,
he always wanted to make sure that people knew that
(02:35:53):
Marguerite Deville was there anytime. He want we know it
didn't really exist, It was made up place in his mind.
But Jimmy but Buffett has always said he's not the
first one to do it, but he won't be the last.
It's part of the human condition that you've got to
have some fun. You've got to get away from whatever
you do to make a living or parts of life
that simply stress you out. Try to make it fifty
(02:36:16):
to fifty fun to work and so far it's worked out. Yep.
Jimmy Buffett said that after five decades escape ism. That's
why we're glad you come to Fox Sports Radio for
your entertainment and information in the world of sports Canada.
Up ninety one eighty four, nine minutes to go. We'll
see what happens. It's gonna do it for the Bernie
Frowter Show, but keep it locked up. Next the Great
(02:36:40):
Andy Furman on Fox Sports Radio.
