Speaker 1 (00:01):
Dor listen, no, Fox Sports, Are they for real?
Speaker 2 (00:05):

(00:27):
and friend. I underline that the one and only Bucky Brooks. Bucky,
It's here Football Sunday. How you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I'm good man, I'm excited. I am excited for the
first weekend of the NFL year. We had a great
kickoff on Thursday, but today it should be fun.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
No doubt about that. We're a full strength today, we
really are. We've got the swollen Dome, Mike Harmer coming here.
Are now our number three Shay Shea's here today, our
executive director and producer Mark Ramsey's here and Kevin Wyatt
with the updates at top and bottom of the hours.
We're full strength for NFL Week number one. But I
want to talk to you before you get into the
grid ion, before we get into the scores, before we
get into the games, I want to talk to you
(01:04):
about something everybody loves, and that's money. Could we talk
money for a second.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
I mean, we always can talk money.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Here we go. Okay, Yesterday Joe Burrow, the quarterback of
the Cincinnati Bengals, put ink to paper, signed the contract
two hundred and nineteen million guaranteed two unto seventy five
million salaries for five years as quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals.
I think that this is, like, you know, ridiculous already.
But that's okay, that's the that's the going rate of quarterbacks.
(01:31):
But I got to ask you, what does this do
to a situation when a guy like that gets all
that greenback? Really? I mean, it's gotta be Look, I've
been in office places where people get more money than
another person and they're doing the same job. This friction,
there's problems. There's gotta be some sort of friction when
a guy gets that kind of change. And then I
(01:52):
read that T Higgins, one of the receivers on the Bengals,
he may not be there for the long haul and
the Bengals may not be paying him. It's got to
it's going to be a problem, don't you think.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I don't know if it's necessarily a problem. When the
quarterback has proven that he's a franchise quarterback, when he's
proven that he's an elite quarterback. When you look at
what the Bengals have done since Joe Burrow has entered
the league, you can say that he has made the
biggest impact on that franchise.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
So he deserves to get the money that he gets.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
But once you pay the quarterback fifty million plus, what
has to happen is it changes who else can get paid.
So when we look at the composition of most rosters, yes,
you can pay the quarterback. You can pay two playmakers,
either they can be wide receivers, wide receiver and or
running back.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
You can pay two of those guys.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
You can pay one big time offensive lineman, a pass protector,
and then it goes to two pass rushers and then
one defensive playmaker. So about seven or eight guys can
get paid like big money.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Everybody else you have to fill in.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
So for the Bengals, they now have to make decisions
going forward whom versus whom? Meaning Okay, so we know
we're gonna pay Jamar Chase. Who else will we pay
on office? Is that T Higgins? Is that Tyler Board?
Is that Joe Mixon? If it's T Higgins, then Joe
Mixon has to go away. Tyler Boyd has to go
when you have to draft somebody to be the other receiver.
(03:14):
So that's where it becomes tricky for executives. They have
to make hard decisions because the money allocated to the
quarterback reduces.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
The amount of money you can pay everybody else.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Okay, but there's nothing in the locker room that's like,
where's mine. I mean, you've been in locker rooms in
the NFL made players are saying, Hey, I'm happy for
the guy, but Whi's mine?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, I mean there's going to be some of that
if you're T Higgins, because T Higgins is going to
say he's gonna look around the league and.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Say, why I should be making twenty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
And in theory, you can have two twenty million dollars
receivers in Jamaar Chase and T Higgins, But you can't
have those two guys and Tyler Boyd and Joe Mixon
and some of the other things and so what the
Bengals have to decide what are the necessities.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
What do we need?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
And who are the players that we deem to be
the luxury item? And if we're gonna keep some additional
some luxury items, where do we get that money from?
Speaker 4 (04:05):
And can we keep.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Them without having to pay them top of the line money.
It becomes a look, it becomes a game where you
have to make hard decisions on who you want on
your roster because the quarterback is gonna be there.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
He's not going anywhere.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Amazing, all right? Now, speaking of scores and games, what's
the deal with your tar Heels of North Carolina against
app State? I mean, yesterday, double overtime, they win forty
thirty four. Quarterback heis been hopeful. Drake May thirteen yard
touchdown run in the second overtime rescues your tar Heels
and they win forty thirty four. Last year they win
(04:39):
sixty three sixty one in a game at app State.
What's the deal? I mean they would have just dropped
them for the schedule.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Well, I mean it's a hard it's a hard game
for guitar heels to play one.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
App State is a really good program.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
But when you play programs like app State, what happens
is if you beat them, you never get the credit
that you deserve because you beat a good program because
people don't view them as an elite program. They done
view them as a top ten, top fifteen program. But
if you lose to them, then you have look holy
hell to pay when it comes to it. Because Carolina
was coming off an emotional win against South Carolina, you
(05:14):
knew it was going to be a grind to then
get up emotionally to play an app State squad that, look,
you won last year in an improbable win on the road.
And so it's just one of those things when you
play app State. App State is gonna gear up. It's
a huge game for them, and you're trying to get
your guys up. But fortunately for the tar Heels, they
found a way to win at the end. But it's
always gonna be a tough battle when you play app State,
(05:35):
whether you play at their place or you play it
at the crib.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
There we go, Okay, now here's the deal. I mean,
what's happening now with Alabama? You know, Alabama loses to Texas.
Texas should have beat them last year, but Alabama loses
thirty four to twenty four in Tuscaloosi. Yesterday they fall
to one on one. The quarterback of Texas quinn Ewers
twenty four to thirty eight, Jvan Sanders, a tight had
(06:00):
five catches like one hundred and fourteen yards. This kid
yours basically was at Ohio State and the transferred. I mean, now,
what happens to Alabama, what happens if Saban doesn't make
it to the foot Championship round this year? I mean,
they're gonna go crazy down there in Tuscaloosa.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yeah, they may go crazy, but it's the evolution of
college football. What you've seen is you've seen guys who've
come directly from Nick Saban's staff take the process blueprint
that he has worked so well that he's used to
build Alabama up into a powerhouse over the last twenty years,
and they've been able to put it in place at
(06:37):
their respective schools.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
First, Kirby Smart, because we've seen what Kirby Smart has
been able to do it. Georgia he has been able
to out Alabama Alabama the last few years.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
And now we're seeing Texas. Steve Sarkesan has gone to Texas.
He's done a really good job recruiting. He has added
some toughness, some grit with his own expertise, particularly on offense,
to allow this program to gain to inch closer to
some of the heavyweights. Everyone has always seen the potential
that the University of Texas has in terms of their
(07:07):
recruiting footprint and turning the brand and turning the money
that they can use to build a powerhouse. What we're
seeing is SARK is being able to do it, and
that was a huge win for SARK and its program.
Look for Alabama, it's a loss, but it's a loss
because they still don't have a quarterback, and so that's
the missing piece for them, physical, tough and all that.
(07:27):
They're still missing the quarterback. And maybe that quarterback is
the same got it played last night, and he grows
and he develops into what they need.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
But it's early in the year.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I wouldn't dismiss or discount Alabama getting back into the
mix for the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
It's just different.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I think the parody and college football now, with the
transfer portal and all the things that we're seeing, we're
going to see more of. This is more even across
the board than it happen in the past, and.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Now we've got to remember that Texas and Alabama during
the same conference being the next year Texas goes into
the SEC. So this is going to be great, it really,
I mean, it just kind of balances the power. And
I think there's a lot of anti Alabama feeling anyway,
because they've dominated college football so long. I think it's
good to see some other players and some other teams
move into that slot.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Yeah, it should be great to see.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
And as we're looking ahead to next year, you talk
about Texas and Oklahoma entering the SEC full time changes
the look a conference that is already viewed as the
number one conference in football becomes even better because of
the two big brands that you bring into the conference.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
If Texas cannot.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Only bring their brand, but if they can bring a
powerhouse program to the SEC, it means they're going to
dominate the playoff field because more than three or four
teams from the SEC are going to fill out the
bracket when you have it a twelve team playoff.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
All right, Now for the big story of today, because
all of a sudden, now this is America's team. I'm
talking about Colorado coach Prime Deon Sanders. Colorado now is
two to zero for the first time this twenty two
as they beat up on the Cornhuskers thirty six to fourteen.
I believe me, I watched that game. They may handle them.
They really did. Although you know, they had their own
(09:08):
mistakes anyway in Nebraska and the something like you know,
three turnovers, two loss fumbles won at deception and that
was in the first half with their quarterback Jeff Simms.
But I think that was partially because of the Colorado defense.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, the defense stood up for Colorado in their game
against Nebraska. And I talked earlier about Carolina having a
tough game following the emotional game that they head the
opening week. Well, Colorado had something similar in terms of
they go on the road, they beat TCU, they get
all this attention all week, a lot of attention on them.
The challenge for coach Sanders was going to be.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
How do I keep these guys focused?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
How does coach Prime keep them focused and engaged on
the task at hand and not look too far ahead or.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Kind of believe their own press clippings.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
The defense stood up after having not a great They
didn't play well against TCU, but they came back and
played really really well against an Nebraska offense that has
been struck them, but they played well against him. And
then in the second half, Shirdor Sanders continues to show
us that he has the makings of being a really
good quarterback on this level and potential beyond. And when
you look at the speed that Colorado has, you look
(10:15):
at the scheme, particularly offense, they can give upon his
problems and Deanna's and Dean's a good coach. He has
a staff that he's put together, and he's recruited good players,
and so if you have coaching and players, it gives
you a chance. They still don't have the depth that
you need to compete with and contend with some of
the other teams. Huge win though, two to zero for
Colorado after being one to eleven last year. Big steps
(10:36):
in the right direction.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
It was great. Now through two games. Shouldah Sanders quarterback
for Colorado? Nine hundred three passing yards, seven touchdowns, no
I iNTS, seventy seven point five percent of his passes completion.
Can we say that now? Is his name thrown into
the loop for a possible Heisman Trophy?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
I think so. I think you can.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
I confinitely put that I think you definitely can put
that out there. You can, and you can look at
the numbers, you can look at the efficiency, you can
look at the way that he's played in big moments,
meaning when they needed him to make plays. He has
a handful of what we call those Heisman highlights. You know,
he had to pass that he tried to throw into
the corner to the running back, it is dropped, he
comes back, scrambles and makes a big play. Those are
(11:18):
the things that you want to see your Heisman Trophy win.
Is your guys that are the best in the business
at quarterback. They do that, and they do it over
and over and again. And for two weeks we've seen
him throw the ball a ton, but he hasn't had
the big mistakes. Even though he took a bunch of sacks,
he's protected the football. He hasn't thrown the ball in
the harm's way. And as long as he does that
operates at an efficient clip. With all of the attention
(11:40):
on Colorado, he absolutely is going to be in.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
A conversation now just to look. You know, I do
have a heart. I'm not a heartless person. Because I'm
looking at this game and after the game's all over.
I say, look, Nebraska a one time real powerhouse. When
they were in the Big Eighth, Nebraska was king and
on Thanksgiving weekend they always played Oklahoma and that was
a big But now Nebraska hit the skids. They really have.
They're owing to and I really feel for not Rule,
(12:05):
the coach. He had some problems in the NFL. He
goes to Nebraska, he's owing too. And basically, when you're
in college football and you're owing to, you finished. Your
season's over. You may get a minor bowl game maybe,
but owing to goodbye wait onll next year.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
I mean, that's part of it. The difference in Matt
Rule and Deon Sanders. Matt Rule wants to slow cook
the grits, as we say in the South. He wants
to take his time rebuilding the program. So he's doing
it with more freshman, more recruiting, not necessarily the transfer
portal Dion is going for right now. He wants to
(12:41):
transfer porter, he wants players right now. He doesn't want
to wait. He believes that he can build a culture
with so many new pieces immediately and doesn't mean one
way is right or wrong. What is happening with Nebraska
takes a little longer when you have young players trying
to acclimate to the college game.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Young players bring into the programs.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Playing football for the first time, and all that takes
a while to get everybody on the same page. Whereas
Dean has a lot of guys who have experienced and
that experience has helped him kind of hit the ground running.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I would say this, if I'm an athletic threat there
of a major college or university, I'm not so sure
I go for the NFL to get a coach, because
right now, with the portal and transferring and things like that,
I don't think NFL coaches are familiar or ready to
do something like that. Like I'm a Rule I'm getting
I'd rather get a college assistant or basically a college
(13:32):
coach to do that in my program. I just don't
think they're ready to do that. They're not. I think
a guy like Matt Rule's waiting for his personnel people
in general manager to hand him a team. We're in college.
You got to make your own team as a coach.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Well, my Rule has done to college thing for a while.
He turned around programs at Temple and Baylor.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Before the portal was really rolling.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah, before the portal and it'll take a while to
adapt an adjust. And what I will say, Nebraska has
been solid on defense the first two weeks, really good
on defense for most part. Offensively, they can't get it going.
And when you have turnover, it just man, it just
kills the spirit of the team, particularly when it's the
quarterback having the same turnovers over and over and over again.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
They resolved.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
If they can resolve the turnover issue, it'd give them
a chance to win some of these games today.

This is Fox Football Sunday on Fox Bus. Reready on
buck We got some callers. It's the first day of
the NFL, the first Sunday, so people are uptight, nervous.
They want to know some information. That's why you're here.
So we got Melvin from Ocean City wants to talk
(16:27):
to Bucky Brooks on Fox Football Sunday. Hello Melvin, Melvin,
Wance Melvin.
Speaker 9 (16:33):
Yes you hear me?
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 10 (16:34):
Go ahead, Okay, good morning to you guys.
Speaker 9 (16:37):
I appreciate the call.
Speaker 10 (16:39):
You let me ask a couple questions and both are
really the same thing. When the NFL won College Chars Corlorado.
I like what they're doing, but how are they going
to maintain Deon has such a lot of energy. How's
he going to keep those players grounded and continue this march?
That's the first question.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Uh, I would say with Prime, he does a really
good job of connecting with his players.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
He's an old school coach at heart.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
If you saw any of the behind the scenes stuff
leading up this week, he was immediately on those players
about expecting success, demanding more from him, and being consistent.
As long as he continues to demand that kind of effort,
that kind of focus from his team, they won't have
those emotional ups and downs when they have successes. It's
about becoming teams like an Alabama or Georgia where each
(17:27):
and every Saturday you go ahead and write their name
into the W column because you know what you're getting.
I think he's trying to get that from his players
by demanding consistency.
Speaker 10 (17:36):
Okay, and the second one this NFL. I've been married
to the Dallas Cowboys, but longer than I've been my
wife and I love Mozelle. But there's such a roller coaster.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
There's such a roller coaster.
Speaker 10 (17:51):
If they believe their own height, how can they come
back down to earth, go back to old school football,
bring their lunch for the work, and keep their nose
to the grind and get this thing done.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
You know that's the many another question.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
This team has no excuses this year for not being
able to get it done. They should be one of
the teams to contend with the Niners and the Eagles
to win the NFC.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Dak Prescott is back, He's healthy.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
He has all the weapons around him because they upgraded
the wide receiver corp by bringing Brandon cook Brandon Cooks over.
The offensive line is back in tact. They just paid
Terren Steele. And then defensively, Michael Parsons might be the
best defensive player in football. You put him with some
of the playmakers that have on the other end, Trayvon
Diggs and Stefan Gilmore. This team should be ready. So
I understand your anks. I understand like some of the nerves,
(18:40):
but this team has to do it. Because they can't
do it now, they'll never do it.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
So make a break year.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Yeah, I mean yeah, the running. The running game is critical,
Tony Poula. But Tony Pollit was a Pro Bowl last
year and so the key will be can Tony Pollack
be the workhorse because you don't have Zeke And I
know everyone was down on Deeke, but what Zeke gave
them was that phit to Caldi and he gave them
a solid presence in pass protection. Tony Poler has to
up to any if he wants to be the workhorse.
He has to be able to do it in those
(19:07):
areas as well.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Thank you, Mel, have a good day and enjoying the
games today. Josh from North Carolina. Maybe he knows Bucky. Josh,
you're on with Bucky Brooks on Fox Football. So the hello, Josh.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Hey, Hi, y'all.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Dovan, good good, good.
Speaker 11 (19:21):
Good good, Hey Gimble. The Dion question for you.
Speaker 10 (19:26):
If Dion continues.
Speaker 11 (19:27):
To, you know, be progressive and do his thing in
the college college game, could you see him eventually taking
it to the prayers And if he did, and let's
say McCarthy has a bad year at the Cowboys, could
you see Jerry going for Dion or would that just
kind of work out at all?
Speaker 3 (19:45):
In your opinions, I don't think Dean has any interest
in going to the pros. He talked about the challenges
of coaching those players sometimes when they get paid in
terms of like he doesn't have the patience UH to
deal with like big attitudes, big egos, and guys who
aren't in.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Love with the game.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
The college game is, to me appears to be the
right sweet spot for him. He gets the mentor and
help kids go from being boys to men in that
environment while also teaching the game and doing those things.
To me, I think he's a perfect fit at Colorado.
I think Colorado. I won't say it's his last stay,
but I think that level is where he fits at
You when you look at how Colorado has responded to
(20:25):
the I would say the Prime effect man, I can't
imagine him wanting to go elsewhere outside of that environment.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
But Buck, I can see this. If Florida State falters,
I can see Florida State they going to pitch for him.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Yeah, they may make a pitch now, but but then
with diam want to go after being kind of like
the runner up he interviewed at other jobs.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
They had an opportunity to.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Hire him before and they didn't believe, So now would
he feel compelled to go back there? And I'll say this,
Mike norv has done a really good job with Florida State.
I can't imagine them falling off where they want to
bunt like Punt on the Mic novel experience. But Prime
certainly will have options at It is because now more
people are believing that he is a really good coach.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
No doubt about that. Thank you for the call, Josh,
and joyed the games today. I want to go back
to Thursday if I can't, Opening Night, when the Lions
beat the Chiefs twenty one to twenty and one of
the comments that Mike Tarico the NBC broadcast happened to say,
I think he tweeted this after the game. He said,
you should put an asterisk next to the win because
Travis Kelsey didn't play. I think that was the most
moronic statement I've heard in eons in ages. I mean,
(21:25):
they won, and there's a lot of injuries on a
lot of teams throughout the season. That we put asterisk
next to every single one that was wrong and it
was a slap in the face of the Detroit Lions,
which I think they gutted it out. And honestly, if
you ask me, Jared goff outplayed Patrick Mahomes that night,
he certainly did.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
He did.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
And no one has to apologize for winning games when
they tee it off, whatever time they kick it off.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Whoever you have, you have, and your job is to.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Win games with the roster that you have, and so
without Travis Kelce, without so many other guys that might
have been out the lineup, no.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
One cares because at the end of the day.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
You have pros, you have guys that are supposed to
be viable backups that can replace some of that production.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
You got to be able to get it done.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I know, without Kelsey and Chris Jones, two of the
better players on the roster, it was an uphill battle.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
But it's the Kna City Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
The defending Super Bowl champs, playing at home, and you
have the best quarterback in the game and Pat Mahomes.
They lost that game because of drops in untimely eras.
We could talk about Detroit and Detroit played solid, but
Kansas City more so lost that game than Detroit actually
snatching it and winning it. I think if you're Andy Reid,
you're looking, you can look at the tape and just
(22:37):
point out all the errors that they made they had
nothing to do with the personnel that was missing, and
fix that.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
They win the game, no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Goff twenty two to thirty five, two fifty three in
a touchdown, And now I look at these stats, an
amazing stat The Allions quarterback Jared Goff is third in
the top five longest streaks in the NFL history without
throwing an interception. Aaron Rodgers first four hundred and two
attempts in twenty eighteen, Tom Brady's second with the Tampa
Bay Bucks in twenty twenty two with three ninety nine,
(23:06):
and Jared Goff what company he's keeping right now in
twenty twenty two and starting this season three hundred and
fifty nine attempts without an It it's pretty down good.
It really is.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
It really is good, and I am glad. I'm really
happy for Jered Goff. I felt like he was unceremoniously
dismissed from the Rams when they traded him for Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
And even though it worked out for the Rams where
Matthew Stafford leads him to a Super Bowl, I.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Got this sense that everyone thought that Jared Goff was
just a product of Sean mcvay's system. So to watch
him go to Detroit connect with Ben Johnson play at
the level that he's played at the last two years,
I'm really appreciative of him. And here's what we know.
They're going to have to ink him to a lucrative
contract because if he continues to play like this and
he thinks he has a year left on his deal,
(23:53):
they'll have to soun him They're gonna have to sound
the major money because the Detroit Lions are inching towards
not only respectability, but pay off contention, maybe eventually title contention,
because Jered Goff.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Has been able to really get this offense up and running.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
And let me say something about Chris Jones. You know,
I don't care if he holds out, if he gets
a raise, if he doesn't come back. I just think
what he did going to that game on Thursday night,
sitting in a private box with his agents. That was weak.
That's a bad look, it really is. I mean, stay home,
watch it with your agents at your house, at their house,
in a bar whatever. I just that was a bad
(24:27):
look for Chris Jones.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
It wasn't a great look. And I can't really understand why.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
I can't understand why you want to do it, or
why you want to go to the game with the agent.
Here's the thing, Chris Jones is ultimately going to bear
the brunt of the stuff that falls out after this.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Eventually he'll get his deal.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Done, but the money that he's losing, he'll never make
that up. His agents aren't going to pay the millions
and millions and fines that he's going to accrew and
so to me, it's money that he'll never get back.
The agents will look great r at the end of the
line because they'll say he's the second highest or third
highest paid defensive tackle, or they'll be able to brag
about the guarantees.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
For the next client. But Chris Jones, he'll never make
this money back.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
To me, it's one of those things where you make
your point, but when you get to week one, you
don't give up a paycheck trying to prove the point
for this deal.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
He'll never get this money that he's losing back.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Wouldes agent tell him to do that? Wouldn't his agent
say what you just told me, Like, why are you
doing this, Chris? You're not gonna get the money back.
Wouldn't an agent do that and give him some advice.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
As might be behind why he's holding out.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
They may be behind that part of it, and their
job ultimately is to secure the future for the client.
To me, though, from a philosophical standpoint, if I am
representing Chris, I never wanted to miss out a paycheck.
I want to make the points. I want to get
a new deal done, but I don't want to hurt him.
And because the CBA has this prohibitive language when it
(25:58):
comes to holdouse and finds you can't wipe those fines away.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
That money goes.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Regardless of how much he signs to do. He is
going to pay eight nine tim eight dollars in fines
and there's nothing that his agents or he can do
to prevent that money from going over to the Kansaity Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
And that's Football League amazing.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
He's Bucky Brooks and Andy Firman. We are Fox Football
Sunday of Fox Books ready and by the way, there's
big money, big money on the line that's coming up
next on Fox Football Sunday Live from the tiraq dot
Com studios. But first, Kevin Wyed who makes big money
right here.
Speaker 12 (26:32):
With sports big money, well big money, Well we'll see
about that. Maybe after some of my bets a cash
out on NFL Sunday, maybe we'll have some big money here.
But the big money right now is in Bouldered Primetime
has a rye for Colorado.
Speaker 13 (26:47):
Third and ten to the twelve yard line, so tooris
out of a shotgun. Dylan Edwards off his white hip
motion man Jimmy Horn drops moves to his left, has
all kinds of time wipeful says one and sound.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Touchdown touchdown Colorado in that time.
Speaker 13 (27:03):
Should Doeors Sanders came with the heater, there was flames
on that.
Speaker 12 (27:07):
Boll Colorado Sports Network with the call Shulter Sanders three
hundred and ninety three yards, three touchdowns. As Number twenty
two Colorado beats their longtime rival Nebraska thirty six to fourteen,
and with the Buffs on the rise, both College Game
Day and Big New Kickoff will be on scene at
Boulder prior to the Buffs game against Colorado State on Saturday.
(27:31):
That wasn't the only big game though. We had Number
eleven Texas upsetting third ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa, thirty four
to twenty four, with the Longhorns getting three straight touchdowns
in that fourth quarter. Number six usc finishes off the
night's slate of action with a demolishment of Stanford fifty
six to ten. Number nine Tennisee over Austin p of
the FCS thirty to thirteen. Although it was a bit
(27:53):
of a slow start for the volunteers, they led just
where it was tied six to six late in the
first half. Number ten Notre Dame I'm overcoming a lightning
storm to beat NC State forty five twenty four, a
lightning delay that had a bowl of lightning hit the
brand new scoreboard at Carter Finley Stadium, causing it to
short out, but the Irish eventually do prevail. Number twelve
Utah a late come from behind win against Baylor, two
(28:16):
touchdowns in the final two minutes as they beat the
Bears in a Waco twenty to thirteen. Seventeen threan North
Carolina overapp State in double overtime forty to thirty four.
Number eighteen Oklahoma beats SMU twenty and eleven Washington State
with an upset in Pullman over Number nineteen Wisconsin thirty
one to twenty two, and Number twenty Ole miss coming
from behind to win at number twenty four two Lane
(28:38):
in New Orleans thirty seven to twenty. Back to you guys,
all right, thank you.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
See a bet and hour, by the way, he's a
loser against them. We'll get to that in just about
a minute. We got asked Bucky in about seven eight
minutes from now, and I'm talking about Joe Burrow. He's
a loser against the Cleveland Browns, and basically the Bengals
are in Cleveland today, so we'll see what happens. And look,
these guys have got no tape on one another. These
guys have Basically we talk about Deshaun Watson and Joe Burrow,
(29:04):
the two wealthiest quarterbacks in the National Football League, have
not seen much action in preseason. But I do think
with the Bengals having more weapons than the Cleveland Browns,
I think the Bengals should be a favorite in this game.
I do think there'll be a lot of points scored
in this game.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Interesting, I think the Browns are potentially the class of
the AFC North.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
They're duken giant that I look for in the AFC.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
And the reason why is when I look at this team,
they don't have a glaring weakness on paper. They have
White House and Mariy Cooper, Elijah Moore, you like David
and Joku and then DPJ Donovan Peoples Jones has been solid.
You have a running back in Nick chub who's one
of the best, if not the best, in football. Offensive
line is always well regarded. Defensively, you look at Zadarius
(29:48):
Smith and Miles Garrett, that might be the best two.
Pass rush might be the best pass rushing tandem that
we have in the National Football League when you look
at the production and how they're going to benefit from
playing one another. And then in the secondary, Denzel Warden
is an elite cornerback. They have other young pieces in
the secondary. With Jim Schwartz, the new defensive coordinator coming over,
it'll look different to me.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
This is a Browns day.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
This is when the Browns can kind of make their
name though, So I'm excited to see this game play out.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
You know, I'm a little jaded because I'm a Bengals
fan and I follow the Bengals and I'm running for them.
But right now you make a lot of sense. I'm
looking at Nick Chubb. I think Nick Chubb obviously is
a future Hall of Famer. He's got five one hundred
yard rushing games in his career. Against the Bengals last year,
he rushed for one hundred one yards and two touchdowns
and Cleveland beat them and they split last year. And
Joe Burrow basically not playing much at all with that
(30:37):
somewhat calf injury in the preseason. The key of this
game I think is Deshaun Watson. Is he going to
come back is going to be the Deshaun Watson of old.
Can he do that?
Speaker 4 (30:46):
We'll see huge thing.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
A lot of expectations for the Shaun Watson in year two.
Last year I was willing to dismiss and a lot
of people were to dismiss it because of the us
from not playing for a season and a half, all
the distractions that were around him. Well, this year, none
of that stuff really exists. All this stuff is kind
of in his past. He's had a full offseason in Cleveland.
(31:11):
He knows this offense front and back. Kevin Stefanski more
importantly knows him and understands how to call the game
around his talents.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
We should be a vet.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
We should see a better version of Deshaun Watson this year,
regardless of the money and all the other stuff.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
People were uproared about.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
This guy two years ago, played at a high level,
was a top five quarterback. You're talking about a three
time Pro Bowler, and I know we kind of diminished
what Pro Bowl selection and status means. But he is
legit and when you look at his resume, this dude
is pretty good.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
So I'm more willing to.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Bank on him returning to form more so than him
continue to play at the level that we saw last year.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
I would say this that Joe Burrow probably has the
best offensive line in front of him that he's had
since he's been a CINCINNTI Bengal. But if you're talking
about a game within the game, I'm looking today maybe
at the Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown, who they got
from Kansas City, against defensive end Miles Garrett. That's going
to be a battle. I don't know ken Brown hold
off Garrett because he's he could wreck. He could wreck
(32:10):
a game. There's no doubt in my mind that Miles
Garrett could just change the game.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
Miles Gary can absolutely change the game. And that's that's
the thing.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
In a game, particularly the opening week, when so many
different factors are in play. Conditioning level is a problem
because no one has played a four to four quarter,
so guys gonna be sucking win early in the game.
Miles Garrett can take over late in the game against
a tired defense that plays more snaps than they played
all preseason.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Huge game for him. This is when his talent should
take over.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
And also Jim Swartz is gonna put him in a
wide non alignment, meaning really wide on the outside shoulder
of the tackle and I allow him to really take
angles and use his athleticism to win. Miles Garrett could
be a major monster this year as a pass rusher.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Yeah, and I worry about the Bengals run game because
Pierin is gone, He's in Denver. Joe mixed in right now.
Didn't have a great year last year. That new offensive
line can they help him? I don't know, but I
think the run game could be a question. I think
the secondary, obviously, it's gonna be a question of brand
new secondary for the Cincinnati Bengals. So right now, you know,
you kind of smack me around pretty good, and I'm
(33:15):
seeing the light. This is going to be a closer
game than one would think, and the game being in Cleveland,
and they got a lot to prove, and you're saying
that the Browns are the key to that division. This
could be a tough one for Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Absolutely could be a tough one.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
This is one that the AFC North will be the
most competitive division in football, to be the toughest division.
The teams are evenly matched. You got to bring your
a game each and every week. This would be a
great one to kick off the season.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Well, and you like definitely Cleveland to wins in a
close one.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Oh no, yeah, Cleveland, I say Cleveland by field goal.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
I feel like thirty one to twenty eight something like that.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
Okay, if you like that score, you throw the score
out there.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Yeah, I can get I'm not here to bet. I'm
just throwing out some numbers. Right if Bucket Brooks get

I am, I'm ready.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Let's go, always ready. You're the man. You are the man. Okay.
Your top five quarterbacks this year in order, in order?
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Buck, Oh, top five quarterbacks in order, No prep time,
let's do this.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Pat Mahomes off the top of the head, Joe Burrow second,
Josh Allen third, Justin Herbert fourth, and let's go Jalen
Hurts fifth.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
So you take Jalen Hurts over Dak Prescott.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
Oh, that one's not a conversation.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Yeah, I thought, I thought, I thought you would ask
me more about Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
But now, right now, Jalen Hurts has to be in
that conversation.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
You know, Aaron Rodger's interesting because he had a down
year last year. He's gotta he's gotta show me something.
I think maybe father time caught up to him.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Oh yeah, he catches up with everybody.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Yeah, I know, I know about that. Blame me all
right on coaches that may be on the hot seat
this season.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Oh what, that's easy. Mike McCarthy hot seat. Dallas Cowboys
don't go. It's going to be problematic for them. Ron
Rivera with the Washington Commanders, he's in a hot seat
because new ownership team still hasn't necessarily won at a
high level time for them to do it. He has
to do it this season or they're probably gonna look
for somebody else.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
There's always a.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Surprise firing or dismissal, someone that ends up on the
hot seat that you don't expected.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
What about McDermott and Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Oh, you know, I was beginning to think.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
I was thinking that because maybe Sean McDermott kind of
falls into the hot seat lightly just because of the
expectations that have been around the Buffalo. Bill's still a
great job building the program back up, got them in
the mix, but they haven't gone to the super Bowl.
It's time for this team to go. It's time for
them to go far. But I don't know if this
is the team that can get it done. Also, don't
(36:55):
forget Sean McDermott has taken over the defensive play calling.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
It will be interesting to watch.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
This version of the defense versus the version that Leslie
Fraser led the last few years.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
They lack a running game. I don't think they ares
strong as they were last year, and they got some
internal problems with the quarterback and his receiver. There are
some problems over there and that may surface as the
season goes on.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Oh absolutely, all right, I mean there's a lot of
stuff there.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
We go now. Question, did Sean McVay make a huge
mistake by returning to coach the Rams. He allegedly had
a position on TV. I think it was with Apple TV.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
I can't say that he made a mistake. I'm glad
that he came back. It would have been more to me,
it would have been more like him running running from
the university, running from the problem. You got the bag,
you got the team to the super Bowl, you took
all the players, and then you're going to leave the
Rams baron. No players know anything like Hey, I'm gone,
I'm going to TV take this because she gig no.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
I wanted to see him fight through it.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
I want to see him fight back from a difficult
circumstance and see if he is the brilliant coach that
we all expect him to be.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
With a view him as.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
There's a lot of people that would say, hey, look,
you had a cushion job in television. Allegedly you could
have gone. You ended up winning a super Bowl. You
go out on top. But you know, you know better
than most these guys who are coaches. They got this
DNA like they can't leave. It's part of their makeup.
I mean, and you you've been a coach, you know
what it's like. I mean, to sit there in a
(38:25):
TV booth and just watch a game. You got the
juices flowing. You wish you were down on the field.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Oh, you absolutely wish you were down on the field.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
You miss it. You never can get that feeling back.
There's nothing that replaces being in the mix. And he
would look, he would have had a tough time replacing
and filling that void.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Being on the game.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Talking about the game is nothing like looking at the
scoreboard at the end, where you have a winner and
a loser.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
There you go. Now, which of these teams have the
better chance of making it to the Super Bowl. I'll
give you some choices. I'll give you three choices of
teams making it to the Super Bowl. Dallas, Jacksonville, or Denver.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
The Dallas Cowboys have a better chance. The NFC is week.
They have two teams that they have to knock off
to get there. That will be the Philadelphia Eagles and
the San Francisco forty nine Ers if they do it
the right way. And we talked about Dak and that
stuff early, but Dak Prescott.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Dominates the NFC East when he's been available.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
So if they win the division, they're looking at the
number two seed. They have to find a way to
knock off the San Francisco forty nine ers, who put
them out the postseason the last two years. Yeah, but
the Dallas Cowboys to me, of those three, they have
the better chance.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
Okay, you did mention the Philadelphia Eagles in that division.
With the Dallas Cowboys and certainly a Super Bowl contender,
what do they need to push them over the top.
What do the Eagles basically need to make them a
Super Bowl winner? Not a contender.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
Jude should have won the Super Bowl last year.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
If they take care of the ball jayleen Hurst doesn't fumble
at the end of the first half, they have a chance.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
This team is ready.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
They're dealing with a bunch of young players stepping in
filling key roles, but they're ready to go.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
They've drafted Will. Everything is right there for him.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
I think it's about Jayalen Hurst continue to progress as
a franchise quarterback, as a top five quarterback, taking his
game to the next level.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
All right, and last, but not least, your super Bowl
pick for twenty twenty four. Basically, not only the super
Bowl pick, who will be playing in the Super Bowl
and who's gonna win?
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Oh, that's tough. Let's go with hmm in the NFC.
Let's put the Philadelphia Eagles back in there to make
it right. The Philadelphia Eagles will win against I don't
like Baltimore. Let's go Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia over Baltimore and
(40:46):
Super Bowl. Wow, I guess I'll let me think about it.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
I don't know it's gonna be. We'll continue right here.
I'm Fox. Here are two shockers for you. We'll get
to that in just about a minute. Good morning, America.
This is Fox Football Sunday. He's Bucking Brooks. I'm Andy Furman.
We're broadcasting live from the ti rack dot Com studios.
Ty iraq dot com will help you get there and
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has a protection
(41:10):
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com
the way tire buying should be. And here he is
the one and only demand of the hour. De man.
It was only answers, and I pressure him for that
as well because I love listening to his football acumen,
The one and only Bucky Brooks. Hello, Buck, how are you?
Speaker 4 (41:28):
What's going on? Mare? What's happening?
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Well, I tell you what I want to embarrass you
right now, because I'm going to tell America that you
write for NFL dot com And if you don't read
Bucky Brooks on Friday at NFL dot com, you're out
of your mind. If you're a football fan, you got
to read it. I read it and sometimes I'll bring
it on here to discuss it. And that's what I'm
going to do right now because you wrote something very
very interesting and informative on Friday this week, calling the
(41:52):
sleeper and the paper tiger in the NFL this year.
And the sleeper you said are the Green Bay Packers,
And I scratched my head. How could that team be
a sleeper with an unproven quarterback in Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Yeah, this seam is a sleeper because the pieces around
Jordan Love are really solid and the style change that
the Packers would have to make might be more conducive
to their postseason success. The Green Bay Packers have relied
extensively on Aaron Rodgers to carry them as far as
they could go in the postseason. It's been about the
passing game has been about number twelve throwing the ball
(42:26):
over the yard, and they were able to do whatever
they could do with him on his right arm. Well,
now you have Jordan Love taken over. That means that
Matt Lafoy's going to look and say, hey, can Jordan
Love really carry this team as a passer. Maybe I
need to balance it out lean on the running game
Aaron Jones and aj Dillon. Maybe we can diversify our
package a little bit, play more two tight ends. So
(42:48):
they drafted one and Luke muskgrave to go at Christian
Watson and Romeo Dipps outside. Defensively, there are eight first
round picks that are within the rotation eight first round picks,
so the defense should be the strength based on where
you've allocated the talent. And this team with Joe Berry decoordinated,
they finished middle of the pack last year, when now
you expect them to finish in the top ten. So
(43:09):
if they finished for the top ten defense and played
more of a complimentary style of football where the offense, defense,
and special teams are kind of unified and how they're playing,
this team can still win a lot of games because the.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
Talent is up there. One of the more talented teams
in the league.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Just young playoff team. Will they make the playoffs because
I think in that division right now it's somewhat wide open.
With Aaron Rodgers gone from Green Bay, you know, basically
other teams that are being available to When did they
talk about Detroit? Minnesota pushed up there last year they
made the playoffs. A disappointing lost of the Giants in
the playoffs. But I think it's open right now for anyone.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
It is wide open for me, and that's why I
say that they're the surprise contender because it's open. It's
open for them to go back, not to the playoffs
as a division champion, and none of us would have
had that on our bingo card when Aaron Rodgers left,
but just the way that this team could come together,
the way this team looks balanced in terms of offense, defense,
(44:05):
and what they have in the kicking game, this team
can absolutely win ten or more games ago to the postseason.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
Okay, we moved out to the Paper Tiger and we
kind of touched on this, at least you did, and
I certainly agree with you. And look the over high
Buffalo Bills. The run is over in Western New York.
I agree with you, and tell us why because right
now I think there's internal problems. They lack a running game,
and look, they've climbed them out, but it never reached
to the top. And I think that they is done.
(44:32):
You know, if they haven't done it by now, ain't
gonna do it.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
I'm kind of with you in that normally you have
a run of about three to four years with the
current version of a team before you have to make changes.
So during the last three or four years, the Buffalo
Bills have been right on the edge, right on the
verge of surpassing the Kansa City Chiefs as a team
to be in the AFC, haven't been able to get
it done.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
When I look at this.
Speaker 3 (44:54):
Team now, the roster is weaker than it have been
in the past. They don't have an established number two
receivers opposite Stephan Diggs. I understand they drafted Dalton Kincaid
to go with Dawson Knox, but it's different having another
guy in the passing game that you absolutely have the
game plan for it. They don't have that in the
running game. They don't have an established or proven workhorse back.
So that means Josh Allen has a continue to run
(45:15):
around and do all the things that he's done being
a super hero.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
And so when you're a superhero latent games, when you
run out of gas, that's when the mistakes happen. So
this team does not look the same.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
And the final part of why I'm really hesitant on
or really down on their chances of being able to
go back Sean McDermott taking over for the defense for
Leslie Fraser. I can't talk about the challenge it is
to get a team a unit ready to play while
also getting the entire team ready to play huge challenge
that Sean McDermott has taken on, and they don't have
(45:47):
the same kind of talent that they once have.
Speaker 4 (45:51):
It's a trick team. Mill is not back.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Yeah, he's not there, and so this team is coming
more back to the pack than separating. And with the
division being as tough as he with Miami and the
Jets making major moves, I think the Bills could be
on the outside looking in this year.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
You know, they're lack a strong running game, and look,
I think that you can't overlook that Stefan Diggs, Josh Allen,
lack of chemistry. There's a problem there. There's a chemistry issue,
and that could really roll onto the playing field. Maybe
I'm mistaken. I never played the game, but I do
believe that if you don't like somebody, you're not gonna
like them in uniform or out of uniform. That's the
(46:31):
end of the deal.
Speaker 4 (46:33):
That is the end of the deal. And that's that's
something they have to look at.
Speaker 3 (46:37):
It's a big part. I mean, it's a concern. It's
a excern that everyone's not on the same page.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
There you go, Okay, you and I are always on
the same page. I want to look at this game.
It's an interesting game if you're wagering. I tell you what,
these one of those games. I think I'd stay away
from the Titans and the Saints at the Saints this
say afternoon, and to me, you know, you talk about
the Titans, but to me, they're the same old Titans.
Ryan Tannehill's the quarterback, and everything on the offense is
(47:01):
gonna go through running back Derek Henry. Does he have
any trends left on his tires? I mean it's the
same basic Titans team. Really depend upon defense and depend
upon Derek Henry on offense.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Yeah, that's what it is, and it's hard. It's hard
to win games in one with a one dimensional approach,
but that's what it is. People will talk about DeAndre Hopkins.
I don't know if DeAndre Hopkins can create enough separation
and consistently get opened for Ryan Tannehill. We need to
see him prove that he's still an elite player or
a true number one before we can kind of sign
(47:33):
off on the Titans being all the way back. This
game is alsomeately gonna be decided on how big of
a game Derrick Henry has. If Derrick Henry goes over
one point fifty, Yeah, they can win. But if it's
be lower that, it's gonna be hard for me to
see how they can generate enough explosive plays to offset.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
But the Saints can do offensively.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
You know, it's gonna be a tough one because of
the Saints right now without their running back Alvin Kamara.
So I don't know, but I would take the Saints
for several reasons. Number one game is in New Orleans.
Number two, that got Derek Carr. I like Derek Carr,
and to me, in the National Football League, it's all
about the quarterback. And I think Derek Carr is obviously
head and shoulders above Ryan Tannehill. And they got Chris
(48:11):
Olave as a receiver, the kid from Ohio State. I
think that's a big deal. I really do.
Speaker 4 (48:17):
It is a big deal, and Chris Olave the thing
with me.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
It will be later in the year with Derek Carr,
he'll come out like it sarrias on fire.
Speaker 4 (48:27):
He'll be motivated. They'll do a great job of putting
together plan and putting together plans the early part of
the season. When his tape.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Starts to circulate, how does he adapt to the defenses
that deal with him shouldn't be an issue this week.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
But at some point he's.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Gonna have to take his game up on us because
it won't be good enough for him to do what
he did.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Do we both agree that it's going to be the Saints.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
Yes, we got agree with that.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Okay, you said something that kind of really resonated in
my mind, and you said that Baltimore maybe going to
the super Bowl, right And that's fine. You know, I
certainly respect your opinion. Been there done that, you know
is more football than I'll ever want to know, and
because you played the game. But I want to go
back to the Baltimore game today. They're playing at home
against the Texans, and I think right now, will we
(49:12):
see a different offense in Baltimore right now? Less running
from Lamar Jackson beacause he got some veterans, some veteran
Odell Beckham junior and a rookie and Jay Flowers as receivers. Coach,
he's got new weapons. Will we see him passing the
ballmore and running less?
Speaker 3 (49:30):
We will see him throw the ball more. He will
run less because they're trying to preserve him. They paid
him the money that they paid him, and so they're
going to give him every opportunity to show people that
he can throw it all over the yard. To me,
it is a flawed strategy because what made them special
was their differences.
Speaker 4 (49:45):
I mean, everyone else is throwing.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
The ball around the playing spread formations. They lined up
in some unconventional formations, ran the football. Lamar Jackson was
a runner playmaker. Now you're asking him to be more
of a traditional passer. Can he be special as a
traditional player when he's been really special as an unorthodox,
different kind of playmaker in the backfield?
Speaker 4 (50:07):
Right?
Speaker 2 (50:07):
I don't see the Texans challenging Baltimore today, especially the
game there with their rookie quarterback CJ. Strott. I don't
think it happening. But they can score some points, but
I do believe it'll be a low scoring game, and
I think Baltimore wins this game, and I think they'll
win it on the passing rather than the running and
the legs of Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (50:27):
Yeah, we get a chance to see everybody's wanted to
see Lamar Jackson make major strides in the pocket. We
have a chance to assess how far he's coming.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
A little time now when they sign an Odell Beckham
junior and they draft the rookies a Flowers as a receiver.
Is this something the organization does because they want to
save his legs, they're fearful of him getting injured, or
they want to go in a different direction, or just
they got great players out there and they say, look,
we're gonna get the best player available. We're gonna sign them.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
It might be a combination of a few different things.
It's the best player available because you want to upgrade
the pieces around him. He's super talented. He still has
some juice left. We've seen other Beckham junior make plays.
We also have seen Zay Flowers to crush it at
the collegiate level. You bring him in because you're hopeful
that okay, you have Odell for a year, maybe two.
(51:16):
But Jay Flowers at some point was drafted to be
the number one receiver. When he's ready to be the
number one, then you'll see them shuffle the deck chairs
and figure out who should be the top priority in
the passing here.
Speaker 2 (51:28):
All right, We got a phone call from Fort Myers, Florida.
His name is Randy. Randy, you want to talk to
Bucky Brooks. Fox football Sunday right now, go ahead, Ran Born.
Speaker 9 (51:38):
The gentlemen, Just just a quick one for you. I
know how hard it is for a minority candidate to
get a head coaching job in the NFL. But I'm
not big on todd Ball with my books, and I
don't know how long he's going to be around there
or how long you think Baker Mayfield will even be
around here? And real quick, if I could add, why
would this hot heat down here in Florida? And with
the tax base, why aren't the three Florida teams any better?
(51:58):
Thank you?
Speaker 2 (52:00):
I think the Dolphins would be tough. I think the
Dolphins would be good this year. Really. I mean they've
got to keep too a healthy. But other than that,
you know, the Buccaneers they're going in a different direction.
I mean there's there's no more Tom Brady and they're
gutting a new era right now with Baker Mayfield, I mean,
getting another chance. But can he get it done? Buck?
Can Baker Mayfield? Is he the man?
Speaker 3 (52:20):
He's a placeholder right now? The Bucks are in transition.
They have some pieces on outside where they can be competitive,
and the hope is you take a chance on the
former number. The former number one overall pick.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
He's good enough to manage the offense, keep the team
in games.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Without messing it up. That that's the story. The story is,
can Baker Mayfield not mess it up? Can he hold
them to the ball and those things? Number suggests he's
gonna turn it over. But you gotta minimize some of
the mistakes at a position. You minimize the mistakes of
the position, they can win a lot more games.
Speaker 4 (52:53):
Baker Mayfield could keep this team competitive until they able
to get an elite play make at the position that
can push them over the top.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
Yeah. And it's funny because I have receivers in Godwin
and Evans, but we read recently that they're going in
that different direction. Mike Emmans is not going to be
signed long term, and I think they're kind of going
in that direction of clearing the house and building for
the future. Baker Mayfield, obviously, unless he does something spectacular,
he's not the future.
Speaker 4 (53:22):
No, he's not.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
And this is a chance for him to put some
nice tape out there, to display some leadership ability, some
competency as a starter. So the next team will have
an opportunity to say, hey, you know what, we like
him we'll take a chance on them, and you hope.
Like in everyone hosts and I'm not gonna work from here.
Everyone hosts that their quarterback is able to make it
through the season. It's typically not out of reality. Based
(53:44):
on seventy seven received sev seventy plus different quarterbacks kind
of had an opportunity to start games.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
It's a tough one. We'll see what it looks like.
You know.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
I'll give our a phone caller, Randy, some some confidence
over here. The Buccaneers are play in Minnesota today in
the Vikings, and I think that the Bucks can keep
up with the Vikings because there's a lot of questions
there in Minnesota with the departure of Dalvin Cook at
the running back position. So there's a possibility here. I
don't think the Bucks will win that game. I think
they could keep it close, but there's a possibility there.
(54:17):
I like the Vikings in this one in a close one,
maybe by a touchdown, but the Bucks could hang with him.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
The Buck tann't absolutely hang with him. This should be
a game that's a one score game. It comes down
to Baker Mayfield making him missing on big play opportunities.
He has to make the layup and if he does that,
in their score points. If he doesn't, it'd be hard
for him to score points.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
There we go. He's Bucky Brooks. Get him on Twitter
at Bucket Books. I'm Andy Furman at Andy fourman FSR.
Swollen Dome. That's Swollen Dome. That's Mike Harmony, joins us
in our number three, our next hour, or Betty yet
you could be like Randy at eight seven seven ninety

us in our number three, but they need time to gel.
That's next coming in perfectly. That's right around the corner
about twenty three minutes past the hour. This is Fox
(55:24):
Football Sunday. He's Bucky Brooks and Andy Furman and he's
Stevie Wonder. So turn it up. I want to hear
Stevie love him.
Speaker 5 (55:30):
It's my guy.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
You know, I'd rather see Stevie one than they're watch
an NFL game if I have my choice. Really, if
I have two tickets, one for Stevie Wonder, one for
an NFL game, because this, like some of the seventeen games,
I can see another one, but I can only see
one Stevie Wonder. All right, that's my take on that.
All right, thank you. Now I get that you like
Stevie one. I know you do.
Speaker 4 (55:51):
I do this.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
How could you not do hockey?
Speaker 4 (55:53):
Now?
Speaker 5 (55:53):
Right?
Speaker 2 (55:53):
Okay, isn't she lovely? Then we move on a couple
of questions before we move on to another game. Got
to ask you this, What is it like for a
player getting dressed in the locker room opening day with
the expectations? I mean, do players actually look at this
schedule and say, look, it's gonna be a long year,
we're not going to make the playoffs? Or is there
(56:13):
some hope and anticipation when you're getting dressed kick off
one o'clock Eastern time. You're probably getting dressed by eleven
eleven thirty working out on the field. What is it
like opening day?
Speaker 4 (56:28):
It's a lot of excitement.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
Man, this is still the game that you dream of
participating in and playing in since you were a kid.
So you're excited about the opportunity to go and play
anytime you get a chance to kind of walk between
the lines. You love the gladiated feeling that comes along
with that. There's nothing like walking out stadium full of
people either rocking for you or against you, playing a
very physical sport where at the end of the day
(56:50):
you're gonna find out if you if your team is
good enough or not. You miss those things and there's
nothing that these players they would tell you, like their
family and dose things, there's nothing better than that. And
they's spend the rest of their lives trying to really
feel this feeling, this competitive as this what it's like
to be a winner and be on the stage. It's
(57:11):
nothing like it. There's nothing they can replace that feeling.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
But you know what, players aren't stupid, they're people. They
know if the team is good a bed. For example,
the Carolina Panthers are playing at Atlanta today against the Falcons.
The Panthers aren't going to do well this year. They
need time to jail. I said that they got that
rookie quarterback Bryce Young. They got three new starting wide receivers.
This team needs time to gel and they're not going
to do well. And what they gotta do I would
(57:34):
think is they got to run the football and then
hopefully let Bryce Young pass when he can. And Miles
Sanders is going to be a workhorse for that Panthers team.
I guess at least today, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
Moles Sanders would be a work horse.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
Bright Young will play as a game manager, a confiderity player.
I disagree with what you take in terms of the
Carolina Panthers not being good. Potentially they can be a
solid team. That division is wide open. I don't know
if any of these teams will run away from the
division rivals.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
The Panthers have a defense that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
If you look at how this defense performed last year
at the end under Steve Wolks, this.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Defense is ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
It's about Frank Wright getting this offense up to snuff
and how does he protect the young quarterback. How does
he put the quarterback in position to make plays that
will ultimately determine whether this team is able to score
enough points to be in contention and to win enough games.
It's on frank Wright. It's on the quarterback. How they
kind of work that out so he can be productive
(58:36):
without being careless or reckless with the football.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
The defense on that Carolina team maybe ahead of the offense.
Right now, there may be a better defensive team than
offensive team. Agreed on this, I think, so I think
they will be. Yes, Look we got this Falcons team.
I mean they got a young quarterback as well, second
year quarterback a Desmond Ritter. I think his job is
to get the football to Drake London or to tight
end a real good tight ending Kyle Pitch. Can he
(59:00):
do that? And they got Robinson as the rookie running back.
So I think the Falcons right now are the better team.
The Falcons win this game. Maybe Carolina is not as
bad as I think they are, but I do think
that the Falcons win this ball game today.
Speaker 4 (59:15):
Yeah, a lot of is on Desmond Ritter. We've kind
of given him a pass.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
He's flown under radar all offseason, but he only has
four games where he's played and started, and the Falcons
have upgraded the personnel around him. They have a solid
offensive team that looks like he could be explosive if
you have the right trigger man. We just don't know
if the trigger man is right. So Desmond Ritter has
to hit the ground running. He has to show and
prove to not only himself and his coaches, but the
(59:43):
fan base that he can be the guy because the Falcons,
to me, they look like they're a quarterback away from
being a team that can can seriously contend.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Okay, I put up the white flag truce. I agree.
Maybe Carolina is not going to be as bad as
I think they will be. But I got a team
that's bad. Are you ready? The Indianapolis Colts. They're going
to be bad. Agreed, they'll be bad.
Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
I agreed.
Speaker 5 (01:00:06):
Okay, thank you? Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
They are hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars today. The Colts defense,
they're in trouble. The Colts have no run game. And honestly,
the Jaguars, they were perfect in the preseason three And no,
I don't know what that means, but I think that
mentally it's a good thing because I think you got
to learn how to win. You learn how to win,
you learn how to lose. And I think that coaches,
(01:00:30):
they could say what they want to say that it's preseason.
I think it's great to get into the habit of winning,
to know what it's like to win, and the fact
that they were undefeated in the preseason. I think that
goes a long way. I really do.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
It does go a long way. But here's the trick.
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
Stylistically, this game could be difficult for any for the
Jacksonville Jaguars because of the way that the Colts play defensively.
Gus Bradley's going to take away the deep ball. He's
going to put an umbrella around the offense and make
you dink it and dunk it down the field. The
game will be decided on Trevor Lawrence's efficiency in the
red area. Is he able to make pinpoint throws in
(01:01:09):
the red area? Is he able to score touchdowns as
opposed to the Jaguars and then field goals. It has
little to do with the Coats offense. Anthony Richardon, He'll
make some plays, but he'll give up some plays. It
has more to do to the style and what Gus
Bradley wants to do to the offense that can make
this game kind of a grind through the mud for
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Okay, a couple of things over here today. Number one.
I think that Trevor Lawrence right now is going to
have his leading receiver, Calvin Ridley, he's the guy. He's
going to be the guy this year catching the footballs
for them. And I think as far as the culture concern,
Anthony Richardson didn't see much action the preseason. Jonathan Taylor,
he's going to be gone for four games at least.
He's on the pub perform list, So that's going to
be bad. Their running game is going to be hurting,
(01:01:50):
Zach Moss recovering from a broken arm. It's just it's
just not healthy. It's just not looking at Dionne Jackson
and Evan Hull, they're gonna carry the football. I don't
see them having a great running game with those guys.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
Yeah, it's that ideal. It's definitely not ideal, and so
you wonder what it looks like.
Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
But it's an opening game, and opening games can be
weird because you don't have film on the opponent in
terms of what they're really doing with a new coach
in those things, it could be a weird game for.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
The Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
Got to figure out what it is that the Coast
are doing before they can kind of settle in and
start playing ball.
Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
The big question today is going to be will Calvin
Ridley be betting on this game? That's the question. Was
he's back? You know, I'm happy he's got another chance.
Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
He's done.
Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
I shouldn't make fun, right, It's not right. I shouldn't
make fun. No. I just you know, there's another situation
I'm seeing it now in Iowa and college and Iowa football.
I just you know, if you watch these games on TV,
I mean, it's one betting commercial after or another. I
get it. You know, it's all about money and this
reverend you involved in that. That's what it's all about.
(01:03:02):
And it's business. You know, at the end of the day,
it's business. But I just don't understand how a professional
athlete will not have the smarts to stay away. I
don't get it. I really don't.
Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
You know, well, I think, well, I think it's different
because I think it can be clouded in so many
different things. And when we think about betting, we're thinking
about old school betting, the bookie, you go to the
sportsbook and do those things. Remember how clouded it is
for this generation of players because they grew up in
an area of fantasy football, fantasy football being accessible on
your phone in an app, well, you know what daily
(01:03:36):
betting is, daily betting like some of the appster they have.
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
It's just like fantasy football.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
And so these dudes, because remember they play for money
in their fantasy leagues when they're playing in high school
and college and those things, maybe the lines are great
and blurry for them when it comes to doing that,
even though they should do it. I think it's so
so blurry when they think about fantasy football versus betting,
versus also seeing the league sponsored betting partners and all
(01:04:07):
those other things that they just don't have the ability
to separate them all. And so when the league made
a decision to jump in bed with the casinos and
gambling and those things, some of this is the natural
fallout that comes from that. You have guys that love
to go to Vegas and do those things and deal with.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
That competitive element.
Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
And so even though betting on your phone isn't Vegas,
it's still that competitive element where there's a winner and
loser at the end of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
There's no doubt that when you wager and when you bet,
football is the best game to bet on it. It's
just perfect it's very hard to bet to me, at
least a hockey and baseball, basketball perhaps maybe with the points.
But football is the game, is the game to bet
on it, and people do and that's what they do.
But I just don't understand how a professional football player
would want to even get involved with fantasy football. That
(01:04:58):
to me blows me away. First of all, how would
you have the time? Why would you even have the
time to do it?
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
There, look, I can betch you in most locker rooms
there are fantasy football leagues and teams and those things.
Because one thing about athletes, and particularly athletes at the
pro level insanely competitive.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
You're competing everything. That's why.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
And I'll say this, you always like Bucky stories or whatever,
like when teams get on the plane and they go
to the city coming back from the game, guys are
in the back of the plane playing cards and betting
big money on games where whatever the game may be,
like in my day, used to be a game called
bou ra, so they would pay it and then there's
a big pot at the end and they pay the money.
Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
Because you have a team full of competitors.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
Everything is a competition, So whether it's fantasy football, whether
it's playing dominoes in the locker room, video game.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
Shooting pool.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
Everybody loves the feeling of winning, and so it spills
over into gambling. It spells over into some of the
things that we see.
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Interesting. I know there was a time us Go I
would travel with the Bengals. I didn't see much gambling,
but saw a lot of drinking a lot of cold
beer on the plane after the trips on their way home.
That's what I saw.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
But you know, yeah, I mean that that used to
be the culture back in the day. Back in the day,
they used to provide them.
Speaker 3 (01:06:14):
But now, when you think about it, probably not the
smartest thing to have your guys drink a bunch of
beers and then leave from the airport to go.
Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
To their homes.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
I mean yeah, Like you just talked about liability situations, DUIs.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
And those things.
Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
The gambling thing can pose problems though, because the money
gets out of hand and guys decide they don't want
to pay it. Well, then you have issues with teammates,
and so some guys would kind of banned those card
games and those things on the plane to prevent those
situations from happening.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Interesting, all right, I always appreciate your stories, Buck, I
really do. He is Bucky Brooks on Andy Ferman And
by the way, this is Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio.
Now in this game, it's all about the coaching. Yes,
that's coming up next live for the Tyrock dot Com studios.
But first live himself live in an action Kevin, with
all your sports.
Speaker 12 (01:07:01):
Well, we just had a game that concluded not too
long ago, in for USA basketball, at least since the
Redeemed team of two thousand and eight, it's been a
foregone conclusion. They just steamroll any other country in an
international competition. Well, this year, the year twenty twenty three,
in the FOBA World Cup, USA basketball didn't get gold,
didn't get silver, I didn't even get bronze. They were
(01:07:22):
in the third place game against Canada. Dylan Brooks led
the way with thirty nine points as the Canadians defeat
the Americans won twenty seven to one, eighteen in overtime
as Canada claims third place and the bronze medal in
the FEBA World Cup, USA fourth place in international competition.
(01:07:42):
Can you believe that?
Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
Whow doctor Naismiths turning over in his grave?
Speaker 12 (01:07:48):
College Football Week two Alabama. The third rank Crimson Tide
in their home stadium in Tuscaloosa, upended by eleventh ranked
Texas thirty four to twenty four. Is The Longhorns really
piled it on in that fourth quarter, scoring at three
straight touchdowns. Number six USA usc demolishing Stanford fifty six
(01:08:10):
to ten. Number nine Tennessee over Austin p thirty to thirteen.
A Number ten Notre Dame wins on the road at
NC State forty five to twenty four. Number twelve Utah
it comes from behind win at Baylor two touchdowns in
the last two minutes. They win it twenty to thirteen.
Seventeenth thrank North Carolina over app State in double overtime
forty to thirty four. Eighteenth ranked Oklahoma beats SMU twenty
(01:08:30):
eight eleven Washington State with the upset against number nineteen
Wisconsin thirty one to twenty two. Number twenty Ole Miss
goes to New Orleans and beats number twenty four two
Lane thirty seven to twenty. And it's prime time in Colorado,
the twenty second ranked Buffs beating their arch rival in
Nebraska Cordaskers thirty six fourteen and with Colorado on the rise.
Both ESPN's College Game Day and Fox's big noon Saturday
(01:08:54):
kickoff will be in Boulder ahead of the Buffs matchup
with Colorado State this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Back to you guys, Thank you Kevin. By the way,
that's great pick us. The only people that can watch
will be the people are watching Fox because with the
blackout with ESPN, no one's going to see them anyway.
That's the problem with Spectrum. So we'll see right good
for Fox. Yes, I'm happy there we go. Hey, it's
a new day for one coach. That's coming right up.
We've coursed the fifty oddline and what we call Fox
Football Sunday on Fox Sports Radio and were brought to
(01:09:21):
you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundley easy and affordable.
Got a multi policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat,
ATV and more all your protection in one place. Bundle
and save at Progressive dot com bot on barrel betting
at about six seven minutes from now. And this game, Bucky,
this game might be, if not the best game of
(01:09:41):
the day, pretty darn close. The forty nine Ers at
the Steelers, and I'll tell you what this Steelers team
is going to sneak up on a lot of people.
I love Mike Tomlin. He's a Hall of Fame coach.
Last year they said he was going to be finished.
He still did not have a losing season last year.
They rely on the pass rush. Forty nine is need
to protect quarterback Brock Party. We'll see what happens. And really,
(01:10:04):
I think this game is more about play calling and
the coaching of both sides. Shanahan against Tomlin. We'll see
what happens in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
Yeah, this is a.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Game that's gonna be a real physical affair. And everyone
loved the quotes that Mike Tomlin had about playing these
guys in the preseason, saying, preparing for a Boxkon match,
you got to do some sporing. And part of the
reason why the Steelers wanted to get after in preseason
they knew.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Who was on the schedule week one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
When you talk to teams about dealing with the forty
nine Ers, it's not only dealing with their physicality and toughness,
is being able to kind of recover from that the
following week. This is a team that prides itself in
beating their opponent up.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
Well, what we know.
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
About the Steelers. They're not going for that. This should
be a bully ball affair. This should be a very
physical game. And this is a physical game in which
they be able to get on the quarterback and quarterback
play will ultimately decide it. So who do you have
Rock Party or Kenny Pickett? That'll be the deciding fact
in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
Well, you know what, if I'm a betting man, I'd
probably go with Kenny Pikett. He's made some strides in
the offseason. Is sickond year right now? Brock Party has
still got some question But the problem well right now
that Pittsburgh's going to face is the people around Brock Party.
That's the key. They got Deebo, Samuel, they could bring
the auk, they got McCaffrey, they got all these guys,
George Kittle, and that's a lot better offensive strength than
(01:11:23):
the Pittsburgh Steelers have.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
I mean, there's no doubt Deniners have an also team
on the perimeter. McCaffrey, I Yuk, Deebo, Samuel, George Kittle
all can play multiple roles within that offense. But here's
what I would tell you about the Pittsburgh Steelers. George
Pickens is the next great Steelers wide receiver that we
will talk about. So you have Pickens, you have Deontay Johnson,
you have naj Harris where they can run the ball.
(01:11:47):
It's more so about Pittsburgh being able to control the
tempo of the game with their offense, meaning can they
slow down the game, can they dictate the terms? Can
they throw it around enough to get first downs but
retain possession because in the end, their defense is going
to be the ones that set them up for success,
and that defense is ready to get back to those
high level, top five defenses of the past. I'm really
(01:12:09):
bullished on the Pittsburgh Steelers this year.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Yeah, I am too. But here's a big question and
you would have the answer to me on I know,
can the Steelers offensive line can can they handle the
pass rush of the forty nine ers?
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
We'll see that and what happens with Bosa? Does Bosa
play today? How do they deal with that? Is he
in shape? What kind of shape is he in? How
many players can he give them? When you look at
the Niners offense line, Javon Hargrave was a big sign.
That's a huge addition. Bosa gives them that. But we
don't know where he's at. So this comes down to
Eric Armstead and Javon Hargrave being able to get this done.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
Interesting, and you like to steal us to win this game.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
I do like to stealers to win this I think.
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
This game would be decided by less than a touchdown.
And I'm I just I think the play calling is
the key, and I think the forty nine is winning
on play calling. That's the key right there. I love
the Steelers, I love Mike Tomlin. I just don't think
they're gonna have enough guess to win this game. We'll see.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:13:09):
Yeah, I think they I think they can get it down.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
I'll see what I mean. And they could be a sleeper.
I mean, there are some people picking Pittsburgh to win
that division, you know, and that's that's that division and
you say, you say the Browns are gonna win that division.
So and a lot of people think the Bengals are
going to be in the super Bowl, So who knows.
It's gonna be tough, and it is the toughest division
in football. We move on to the Arizona Cardinals, not
a good team at the Commanders, and we say one coach.
(01:13:32):
Right now, it's a new day for him. We'll talk
about Eb Eric the enemy. We'll see what he could
do today with his quarterback. It's Joshua Dobbs against Sam Howell.
I mean, and I think that maybe Eb's got a
little more to work with than the Cardinals have. The
Cardinals right now, I guess they're playing for the draft.
That that's what they're basically doing. Kyler Murray's gone, he's
(01:13:52):
on the pup list. They'll be gone for at least
four or five weeks, so we'll see what happens there.
I don't think the Cardinals have a chance. I'd be
surprised that even score a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
Wow, I mean, it's the NFL team. You have NFL
guys on the jersey.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Josh Dobbs has played in the NFL games before.
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
This is the weird thing about the National Football League.
You just never know until you get to Sunday. And
so I'm sitting here.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Looking at this commander's team, which should have a superior
roster based on the talent that they have on offense
and defense.
Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
But it's the unknown.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
It's Eric b enemy, I guess, technically calling his first
NFL game, how does he handle the ebbs and flows
of the game. How to Sam Howell respond in this
I mean it's his second official start International Football League.
Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
And even though.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
We'll talk about, well, this should be I mean a
walk over. The Cardinals don't have any talent any given Sunday,
We've seen weirder things.
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
This would be a tighter game than we imagine.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
The Commanders should win it, Jack Dellie and this defense
should get it done. She'd be able to kind of
walk through the Cardinals offense and the offensive line. And
without an established quarterback and I we'll say Josh dobbson
without an established quarterback, Yeah, it should be in their favor.
You just don't know. This would be tighter than we'd imagine.
But I would go with the Commanders in.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
This one, Okay, if anybody's interested. Josh Dobbs has been
in the National Football League since twenty seventeen. He had
only two starts since then. I believe it was in
twenty twenty two with the Titans. So and there's only
two stars and he's going too. I don't see Josh
Dobbs getting the job done, all right, the just the
way it is, you know, and zach Ertz may not
(01:15:32):
be playing either the tight end for Arizona. So it's
it's gonna be a tough be a long haul of Arizona.
And I feel bad for them because they gotta travel
cross country after the loss back to Arizona. That's gonna
be a long plane ride. Really a lot of card games,
A lot of card games going back, Really.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
A lot of card games. You're funny.
Speaker 14 (01:15:49):
You feel bad for them, You feel bad for them.
You feel bad for them because they have to travel
for work. What are we talking about? The plane flight
of the way back. I mean, that's gonna be the worst. Really,
those cross country flights bad. I don't want to be
on those flights.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I don't know. There may be some drinking on that
flight too, may very well be. You don't know. I'm
just saying, all right, he's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Ferban.
This is Fox Football Sunday, Fox Sports Radio. The game
that keeps you up at night. We call it bottom
barrel benning. You know what, it's freaking next, bottom barrel betting.
Right around the bend. It's about ten minutes before the
top of the hour. This is Fox Football Sunday on
(01:16:28):
Fox Sports Radio. He's Bucky Brooks. I'm Andy Furman, and
welcome back. We're alive from the tiraq dot Com studios
and of course away we go. So let's play the game.
Speaker 5 (01:16:37):
It's bottom bottom.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
Mit to sleep, people, get my money.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
I'll put your brain to sleep.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Betting all right, Shay Shae, he's the man. Are you ready,
Shay Shane? Who won last week? Because this is competition,
this is what I live for.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
So Andy one, actually it was really close, but the
last one was the East Sports matchup that you guys did,
and Andy won because of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
That, Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
Oh man, come on, good, I beat.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
An NFL player. Think about that. I defeated someone who
played in the NFL for five years.
Speaker 15 (01:17:08):
Huge.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
That's a big day for me. It really is. She
gets sort of a championship built or.
Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
Something really well, ask Scott about that.
Speaker 15 (01:17:16):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
All right, let's do it beat him again.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
We're sending it back to one of my favorite leagues.
It's the Czech Republic Table League. So we got Yon
Kanara taking on Lucas Yindract today at eight a m.
Jan Canara said at minus one fifteen, while Lucas is
set at minus one twenty five that you guys going
with mister Brooks.
Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
What what what? What are we playing? What are we doing?
Speaker 15 (01:17:41):
We're playing table tennis?
Speaker 4 (01:17:43):
Oh my god, I guess give me Yon.
Speaker 15 (01:17:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Do you know the guy? I mean the way he says,
it's like give me.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
It's like his first name, Basis, Yeah, give me, give me, yeah,
give me big about big Luke Big look Lucas. All right,
So today in European Darts Tours, Stephan Bunting is taken
on Martin Chindler at six thirty am Pacific Standard time.
Bunching is set at minus one ten, while Schindler is
(01:18:13):
set at minus one twenty. But you guys slamming.
Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
Them ms Dandy's short turn.
Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
You all right? I got Schindler's list, That's what I got.
Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
Schindler man, all right, we took my guy.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
Well, I'm gonna go with Schindler too. I'm not gonna
let you get my guy over him. Not gonna take
the opposite. You have a filling shilling to you guys.
I'm happy you guys both said them.
Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
On to hockey, so this is in the Finland Hockey League,
Cuckoo is set to take on you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
Curt cuckoo.
Speaker 1 (01:18:46):
Cuckoo is set at minus one ten. Well you, curt
Is set at minus one twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
I guess this mine. I go with cuckoo. It just
sounds right, just sounds like they're ready to get a
go on.
Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
Yeah, cuckoo, that's ridiculous. How did you wear a cuckoo jersey?
I mean, really, come on, really, I got Luca Rick
wherever the heck that is.
Speaker 15 (01:19:06):
Cuckoo's a Persian delicacy.
Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
Actually, guys, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (01:19:11):
Next onto England in the Rugby Championship League. The Borrow
Raiders are taking on the Swinton Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
At the Raiders, you gotta go with the now any spot,
you gotta go with the Raiders. I got the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Okay. That that that's that matchup is today.
Speaker 15 (01:19:27):
So yeah this this matchup okay.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
So no, no, so give me give me the lines.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
Because Dan Campbell has the day off, I think he
can give the Lions a pep talk.
Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
I'm going with the Lions. I got the Lions today.
Speaker 2 (01:19:37):
So the sword of that due.
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
The lines are set, Okay, the Raiders are minus two
fifty and then the Swinton Lions are plus two ten.
Speaker 15 (01:19:44):
So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
Oh yeah, yeah, we're great.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
So in the French Handball Star League, nemess is taken
on Shamberry Savoy today at eight a m. Pacific Standard time.
Nemess is set at minus two hundred, while Chamberry Savoy
is set at plus two thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
I guess I go. I got Savoy Shamberry. So it
sounds like a wine. That's why I'm going with like
a French wine shamburry soon.
Speaker 15 (01:20:09):
I'm hoping.
Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
I'm saying it right. I hope it's like that. All right,
So I'm gonna go to opposite way. I'm not going somewhere.
I'm going with the opposite team. I'm dear. I'm rock
with that. The handball thing. Yeah, yummis, I can go
with ymis.
Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
I like that. That's good.
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
I tell you what it's on. You know, this is
competition for me. For you, it's nothing because you know,
to me, I work up a sweat in this. He
worked up a sweat five years in the NFL. But
this is a big deal for me. So like, I
live for this, you know what I mean. So you
got a copy some slack. There we go, right, But
coming up next the swollen dome. Mike Harmon joins the
fray right here on Fox Football Sunday next.
Speaker 5 (01:20:41):
Greetings and welcome in. We have made it finally There
two hundred and seventy one glorious contests lay ahead for us.
We could lament the disintegration of our national teams as
the men's basketball squad falls to Canada on the heels
of the United States women losing and being dominated in
the World Cup. I'm watching my national teams melt around me.
(01:21:05):
But I can seek solace today because there are tailgaters
sitting in parking lots across this great land ready to
crack that first beer. Who am I kidding? They've done
it before they hit the parking spot. We're ready to
roll here on a beautiful Fox Football Sunday with my
guys live from the tirack dot Com studios tirerac dot com.
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
(01:21:26):
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers
tirerac dot com. The way tire buying should be broadcasting
legend my guy Andy Furman at Andy Furman FSR where
you find him. Bucky Brooks doing his analysis later on
today from my Super Bowl pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I may have doomed you already, but he's my guy.
(01:21:47):
He's Bucky Brooks at Bucky Brooks on Twitter. Gentlemen, another beautiful,
glorious week one is upon us. How are we celebrating
this morning? Andy? When you woke up? Was it a
different spring in your step?
Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
I didn't wake up up, I step up all nine.
I couldn't wait. Really, it was unbelievable. Mean, it's like
Christmas Day. And I don't celebrate Christmas that much really,
but it was like Christmas Day, Blackie.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Look, it's always exciting when you kick off the season,
and the reason it's exciting is because, look, the NFL
has done a really good job of making sure that everybody, every.
Speaker 4 (01:22:20):
Team believes that they have a chance.
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
And so here we are, you sitting here about talking
about the Jaguars potentially being a super Bowl team. They're
thirty one other fan bases that feel like their team
may be able to go from worse to first to
find a way to sneak into that title game. And
that brings about optimism. So that optimism is gonna be
fielt in stadiums I'm excited to see.
Speaker 5 (01:22:39):
It now some random stats. As talking to Shade before,
we got things going, random factoids that run across the
bottom scrolls. You guys talked about the Commanders a little
bit in near your first two hours together. You know,
Sam Howell has something on the books that can be
done for the Washington football franchise that hasn't been done
(01:23:01):
since nineteen eighty seven, and that's when his first two starts.
You want to guess who that quarterback was that did that.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Washington?
Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
Who was that?
Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
A man by the name of ed Rubert or Robert.
I couldn't find video of him to prove how to
pronounce his name. But that was during the strike season
of nineteen eighty seven. So we are going in the
wayback machine. How about this other randomness for you all right?
Quarterback stat Part two? When CJ. Stroud gets ready to roll.
(01:23:33):
A little bit later we got Bryce Young all of
these young quarterbacks getting ready to get after it. Did
you know that the first overall pick, the last one
to win, goes all the way back to two thousand
and two. Anybody want to go back on the way
(01:23:56):
back machine and remember who that is? Thirteen and one?
Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
Then two thousand and two. Geez, I don't kick out.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
And he won his first game of two thousand and two.
Speaker 5 (01:24:09):
Two thousand and two, and then he spent the rest
of his time with that team pretty much laying on
his back because his offensive line was terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
Was that the Detroit Lions?
Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
No, I mean you could have picked Eddy Lyons guy there,
there's no question about it. But yeah, for Bryce Young,
he's trying to do something that hasn't been done since
David Carr wow in two thousand and two. So some
history making moments ready for us today. We're gonna go
through some of the games. You guys haven't had a
(01:24:39):
chance to break down. A couple of great ones on
the slate. I was listening on the way in. I
gotta say, my blood is percolating. I've only gotten three
SIPs into my first cup of coffee, but I could
run through a wall right now. Guys, That's where I'm at.
Whole day of college football. All the heavyweights that are struggling. Yeah,
we like we got it winning teams and Colorado's fun,
(01:25:02):
but Alabama losing well.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
Bucket's tar heels well.
Speaker 3 (01:25:06):
Double the as you can, right, Yeah, no one a
care in two weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
Western over UTEP they were a one point favorite. Fellas,
that's how much everybody had just kind of looked at
it and said, yeah, this is done. Now they dominated
the game. What does it mean on the grand scale? Nothing,
but it's a w succeed in proceed. That's what we
try to do. I take the mantra uh in my household,
no matter how bad the day is, if I make
it to my bed, I went one and oh today, Yeah,
(01:25:37):
I mean, okay, take brass tax. It's positivity. And when
I wake up the next day, sure, everything could go wrong,
but you know what, I've got a chance. Just like
all these teams today, even the Arizona Cardinals, in some
part of the multiverse somewhere, they may have a win
under Josh Dobbs and Clayton Tune. I'm not banking on it.
(01:25:58):
I'm not betting on it, but you know what, let's
break down some games. Let's get things started with a
big one. Yeah, Cowboys and Giants, how about that? Right
off the jump, we go to one of these heavyweight matchups.
We look at the spread. The Cowboys three or three
and a half point road favorites forty five and a
half the total. The big story here, Darren Waller, it
(01:26:20):
all begins and ends as soon as he showed up
on the injury report. You know, I threw my pen
in the air going. I couldn't get to week two.
I couldn't get to week three. Historically, Dallas has shut
down Saquon Barkley five times in his career. He's rushed
for fewer than fifty one yards against this unit. But
with balance and definition, like Schwarzenegger told me and proclaimed
(01:26:43):
back in pumping iron because you all know me, I'm
a physical specimen unlike any other that you gotta have balance.
And for Daniel Jones in the passing game, a lot
of guys come in to play. What are we thinking?
Cowboys are everybody's trendy pick I go the other way, Andy,
what say you? Well, you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
I grew up in New York City and I was
a Giant fan, so I'd love to see the Giants swim.
But I don't think it's gonna happen. I think it's
gonna be a close game, and it's Sakwon Barkley basically
with sixty percent of the offense last year. He takes
the pressure off Daniel Jones. But again, if you look
at Dallas, is Tony Poula gonna be the guy to
take the place of Ezigiel Elliott. I don't know, But
here is the bottom line of this game. I believe
(01:27:20):
both teams have a tremendous pass rush, so I think
the games are gonna come down as to which team
protects the quarterback and protects those stupid mistakes that may happen.
So at the end of the day, I think the
Cowboys win. They win by a field goal.
Speaker 5 (01:27:34):
Bucky Dak has won ten straight against the Giants as
the streak continue.
Speaker 3 (01:27:39):
The streak does continue, but it's a very tight game.
The New York Giants are going to make this a
big go money the game up.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
With their style of play.
Speaker 3 (01:27:46):
Darren Rowler being a fifty Darren Waller being a fifty
to fifty chance to go. Really need him there. If
he's there, this game is super tight. If he's not,
it's gonna be a game that's gonna be within seven
in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
But then the Cowboys run away from an it.
Speaker 5 (01:28:00):
There you go. Tony Pollard a big question mark of
what he can handle over the course of a full season.
Andy I think I'm with you in lockstep as much
as I like Deuce Vaughn because he may be the
only guy that's ever suited up in an NFL game
shorter than me, and that says a lot. Look, I'm
a fire plug. You guys have met me.
Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
You know me.
Speaker 5 (01:28:18):
I'm not a tall man. Back when it was going
into high school, They're like, well, he can make you
a really wide I'm like, how are we gonna do that?
I don't want to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:28:26):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:28:27):
I like having the base that I got, but I mean,
I don't know any wider. I got problems. I'm already
struggling on the knees. No, you're tough, though you can.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Run through a wall. You're tough.
Speaker 5 (01:28:37):
Well that's it, Quadzilla. Baby. Here, I'm stealing it from
sa Quon Barkley, if only for the moment to try
to prop myself up here. Let's get another game in.
Let's go Dolphins and Chargers. Oh, now we're talking. You
want to talk about a sexy matchup Chargers three point
favorites at home fifty one, the nice robust total. As
(01:28:57):
we get ready for this one, no armstead on that
offensive line, so all of a sudden, the alarm bells
start ringing. Remember Joey Bosa didn't even play when they
were terrorizing the Dolphins last year. He's back. One of
the big questions is j C. Jackson in the secondary.
You want to talk about a year you'd like to forget,
coming off with a huge year and the huge contract,
(01:29:19):
and then you get Rashaan Slater back for the offensive
line for your Chargers. So in theory the run offense
which was just deplorable at times, and yes, I know,
fantasy owners, Austin Eckler had a fantastic year. They couldn't
run the ball and they couldn't stop the run. Those
things have to happen. I guess they're blessed to a
degree is that Miami doesn't have that single solitary dominant back,
(01:29:43):
but certainly a lot to cover when you look at
Waddle and Hill on the outside, Kellen Moore, Vic Fangio
getting after it, Bucky. How do you see this one
here in Los Angeles?
Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
This is gonna be tough because in Los Angeles you
know that it won't be a full crowd, so they
won't really have the benefit of a home game. This
would be one where the Dolphins defense really gets to
stand up. Vig Fangio kind of showing his pupil, Brandon
Staley how to call a great defensive game.
Speaker 4 (01:30:10):
Give me the Miami Dolphins. Let's be showing offense and.
Speaker 3 (01:30:14):
The defense being able to get it done with with that.
Speaker 5 (01:30:18):
Wow, look at that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
That's gutsy. That's a gutsy call, Bucket. It really is.
It really is. The charges, Yes, the charges. Yes, I'll
tell you why. Number one. Miami's without Jalen Ramsey, the quarterback.
Number one. Number two. I know they got Tyreek Hill,
they got Jalen Waller. That's a big thing. I worry
about Tua. You know, I want to if he could
take I mean, Dolphins are gonna go as far as
(01:30:42):
Toua takes them. But look with the concussions last year,
I just I don't know. I don't know what he's got.
You know, maybe one hit, he may be out of
the game. I don't know. But this game should be
a high scoring guy, a high scoring game, power offenses.
You look at Justin Herbert. He's got the weapons there.
(01:31:02):
He's got Keenan Allen, he's got Williams, he's got Palmer,
he's got the rookie there, Johnston. I just think that
the Charges win this game. I really do.
Speaker 5 (01:31:11):
Kellen Moore, the man of the hour, the head coach
in waiting, because you know, people are just waiting for
Brandon Staley to fail or in his assessment of down distance,
time and clock management. But a lot on the arm
of Justin Herbert. Right. With great power and giant novelty
contracts comes great responsibility. And this is a guy. The
(01:31:35):
thing I like about him most. I don't know how
much you guys have followed the man. I've never seen
anybody dodge cameras better than Justin Herbert. You will never
find him in the media fodder or page six for
something he said. Because the man doesn't.
Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
Talk nice, says out the way. He does a really
good job of staying out of the way. He's not
trying to get into it. A little tip for you guys,
Little Birdie told me that you might see the Charges
play really, really fast, a lot of up tempo stuff,
trying to get a million plays in a lot of
passing yards. Don't know how much they're gonna run the ball,
but look for them to be an attack mo with
j Justin Herbert leading the way.
Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
To put and then one thing the Charges have always
done in the past, they can't close. They may have
to lead in the fourth quarter and they blow it.
They just can't close. They're not good closers.
Speaker 5 (01:32:20):
Oh, that becomes the question, right do you are you
able to leave some of the pass behind? Right? Andy,
you know you're there near the Bengals and they've had
some great runs and we celebrate a lot of those
runs they had with Marvin Lewis, I know, our guy TJ.
Huschminzada alongside with Ocho Cinco. They had some of the
great runs with Carson Palmer and what they were putting up.
(01:32:40):
But then once we got towards January, didn't quite run.
Then you have the level of futility and right back
to prominence now, but always looking to see can you
close it out the Chargers usually it's that rough stretch
and then the second half they go on like gangbusters
to make it interesting. We'll see if they can actually
get off the jump here. Otherwise it's gonna be a
(01:33:02):
really chilly day for me tomorrow in the studio, guys,
because half of my broadcast team works for the Chargers
Radio and the other guy's a Jets fan, you want
to talk about me walking into a buzz saw tomorrow
night here on Fox Sports Radio. I'll make sure the
camera is on because you might not see anybody more
uncomfortable broadcasting a show that I will beat.
Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
It might be worse for you on Tuesday. Yeah, after
the Jets game.
Speaker 5 (01:33:27):
Well, no, because we're live as it's going on. Andy, Okay, right,
So like our show, Jason Smith and I seven pm Pacific,
it'll be about halftime when we take over, So it'll
either be really great or I'll be strutting around and
taunting him because Aaron Rodgers and company have failed. We'll
get to that game a little later on. So much
(01:33:48):
more to break down at Andy Furman FSR where you
find him on Twitter. Bucky Brooks over at Bucky Brooks.
Can you tell how giddy we are? Folks? We made it,
We made it. You might already be cracking a beer.
It's only eight to fifteen on the East Coast, but
it's five o'clock somenwhere I'm celebrating Jimmy Buffett all day long.
Let's go football fans. Be sure to tune into Fox
(01:34:08):
Sports Radio every Sunday morning, beginning at ten am Eastern
seven am Pacific for Countdown to Kickoff presented by Bett mgm,
Brian No, Jeff Schwartz, and professional better Bill Krackenberger. Have
you covered for three hours before kickoff every Sunday morning.
Listen to Countdown to Kickoff presented by Bett mgm right
here on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Coming
(01:34:30):
up next, they celebrate a legend in Foxborough. Will they
be celebrating a victory? We'll talk about it next here
on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back in the long tribute continues.
Why because we all aspire to that beach sit in
lifestyle where we're just chilling. And it's not lost on
anybody that Jimmy Buffett did die over a Labor Day weekend,
(01:34:52):
a long holiday that folks bailed on work because it
was five o'clock somewhere Fox Football Sunday continue here Mike
Harmon alongside Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks with you. Blessed
to be with you for another season. I've had the
great fortune of occupying a chair on the network here
for many a kickoff weekend, and boy, it's just a
(01:35:14):
blessing and the excitement to be here to talk about
football games and get folks ready while they're tailgating, while
they're putting on their face paint, finding the jersey of
the most obscure player of their favorite team in their jersey.
I was telling the guys here at bar locally in Burbank, California,
is a Bears bar, and we went in and you
(01:35:37):
see guys wearing you know, there's a Jay Cutler. Fine,
there's a Curtis Enis, there's a MOUs and Mohammed. You know,
it's the gathering of decades for some teams of collective
pain and for others, the great celebrations of decades of
greatness and that everything in between, right, I mean when
(01:35:59):
we get to it, Yeah, no, they look laugh at me.
In the city of Chicago, lot's going on with that squad.
We'll get to the Bears and the Packers in just
a couple of minutes. But in Foxborough today we got
a big one Eagles at Patriots, another home underdog. A
lot of those on the slates, including a few divisional games.
(01:36:20):
Eagles four point favorites on the road at New England.
Devonte Parker not available. Surprise, surprise, They've got a whole
thing going on. With Matt Corrall. Not gonna speculate there,
but away from the team, Bailey Zappi signed to the
practice squad, gets elevated back to the fifty three man roster.
Shuffle up and deal in terms of some of the
wide receiver options. As we look at Alabama, Mac Jones
(01:36:45):
under Bill O'Brien, can that offense find something? Stevenson was sick,
look like he's gonna be able to go the other side. Well,
new offensive coordinator for the Eagles, but on paper, still
a fifty three man roster that strikes fear in the
hearts of many a man. Well, you know what, because
he's dealing with some personal strife. He's got his heart
somewhere else there. But Bill Belichick. We don't like necessarily
(01:37:07):
Bill Belichick the GM, but Bill Belichick the coach can
still get after it. I like New England to win
this game out right as they celebrate Tom Brady and
ride the emotional wave opportunity to go and disrupt in
a first matchup against Jalen Hurts. Andy Furman, what say you?
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
I hope so, I hope you're right. And I love
Bill Belichick, He's my guy. But I'll tell you this
much so once that kind of popped out to me,
Big Tom, when I was looking at this game. The
Eagles allowed the fewest passing yards per game last year,
and this secondary struggle. But here's the problem. I don't
know who's going to pass the football for New England.
Can Mac Jones get it done? You know? Defensively, I
(01:37:45):
have no problem whatsoever. I think defensively it's going to
be the Patriots stopping their run, and the Patriots could
get it done. Belichick will be prepping for this one.
But offensively, can they put points on the board. I
worry about that. You know, you say Stevenson, he's the
running back, he's score. He rushed for over one thousand
yards list year. Will he play today? Kenny get it done.
It's gonna be a tough hole. I think they willment them.
(01:38:08):
Maybe being at home is going to be a difference.
But I would love that. I'm talking though, with my heart,
not my head. I would love to see the Patriots
win this game, fucking.
Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
As much as I would look. I mean, I love
that everyone is all on the Patriots right now, but
are they good enough to really take down a team
like this?
Speaker 8 (01:38:30):
One?
Speaker 5 (01:38:30):
Breaks some strange bedfellows.
Speaker 4 (01:38:32):
I mean, emotions and all of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:38:35):
At the end of the day, you still have to
have players, and I don't know if they have enough players.
Speaker 4 (01:38:40):
I'm gonna go with the Eagles. The Eagles are the
class of the NFC.
Speaker 3 (01:38:43):
And we're talking about the Patriots as if Tom Brady's
gonna play, He's not suited up.
Speaker 5 (01:38:47):
You don't know that. No, if anybody finds on tickets,
they're getting out. Harmon would like one for his collection.
But the big thing I guess for me, Bucky, is
do they need to get into a scoring fest to
potentially win this one? Over under? Sitting at forty four
and a half, one of the lower totals of the week,
and we know Belichick can still coach up defense and
(01:39:08):
maybe slow things down. I am I just wishing and
hoping at this point.
Speaker 2 (01:39:15):
I think so, am I I'm wishing to day.
Speaker 5 (01:39:18):
I thought it was a student analysis of these school
task Master putting the hood up like he's one of
the Sith lords in the Star Wars universe to get
after Jalen hurtson instance.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
But should Philadelphia win? But should Piladelphia win? I don't
see a blowout. I really don't. I don't think they
win by more than a touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
If they do win, keep it close, have a chance
towards the end. That's all you can ask for in
the National Football League. Were brought to you by Progressive Insurance.

at Progressive Dot Calm. All right, let's get spicy. Let's
(01:39:58):
line up, you guys, grab your back. I'll be your pinata.
Packers at Bears. Here we go. Packers and Bears. Bears
a narrow one point favorite forty two, the over under.
Suddenly the trendy pick. I saw it all over the Bears,
the Bears, the Bears. Bears couldn't pass the ball downfield.
DJ Moore will help with some of that. Defensively, you
(01:40:21):
change out half a unit on a unit that's been
well terrible year after year. Eber Flusen company getting after
justin fields. We know that he could pass. We talked
about this last week, Bucky and throughout, but I'm on board.
The Packers have been on record that they're winning this division.
I heard you guys talking about it a little bit earlier.
(01:40:42):
But do they get off the jump well with no
Christian Watson, Bucky start with you.
Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
I still think they get off to a high start.
I like this team. I like this team because of
the defense. Jordan Love is going to surprise us offensively differently,
this would be a different style of Packers Teamley. They
have to carry the weight the big sombrero this week
is all on defensive.
Speaker 4 (01:41:05):
Coordinator Joe Bearrs.
Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
Sir, Joe Barry has to have this defense playing at
a top ten level. He can't complain. I looked at
it too deep. You got seven guys that are up and.
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
Available that were former first round picks.
Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
You have another guy in Eric Stots who's on pupp
I mean, you can't talk about not having talent. So
this has to be on Joe Barry to figure out
a way to get this done.
Speaker 5 (01:41:24):
Now. I was fit quick to get on Aaron Rodgers.
You know last season, not their first few games, no coordination,
you know, with the young guys, whatever. But Barry's defense
so grossly underperformed for just the reason you just said,
like my expectations, they'd be a top five unit. They
forced as many turnovers as the three of us did
sitting on our couches. MM hm, Andy, what are you
(01:41:48):
thinking this?
Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
Why are you ready for this? The Chicago Bears today
snap their eight game losing streak. Justin Field's stars, the
defense rattles. Jordan Love, although is going to have running
backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon and Bucky Brooks, says
that the Green Bay Packers are the sleepers of the NFL.
They may very well be, but they'll be sleeping today
(01:42:09):
because they're not going to win. And I'll tell you what.
With the addition of wide receive a DJ Moore on
the Chicago Bears gives him another outlet. I think the
Bears win this one. Not by much, maybe by a
field goal. But the Chicago Bears win today.
Speaker 5 (01:42:21):
I can tell you. In a parking lot somewhere near
Soldier Field, my brothers and I just now have inspired
a bunch of people to cheer what you just said.
You are now a hero in the city of Chicago
on the air waves through the power of the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Or Chicago Dog. I'll be happy.
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
You know what I can make that happen for you.
Let me make that happen for you, Andy Furman. We
will have those in the mail to you this.
Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
Week, and I'll get you some Cincinnati chili.
Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
See. There you go. Quid pro quote, Clarice, quid pro quote.
There you go. I'm quoting Silence of the Lambs on
a Sunday morning. What is going on here?
Speaker 4 (01:42:56):
Why?
Speaker 5 (01:42:57):
Carbon Bucky brooks Andy Furman with you here? A couple
more games to get through, and coming up in about
fifteen minutes, it's the chicken and beer game of the week,
I e. How are we gluttonizing? What game has our
rapped attention? As we roll through the final glorious matchups
of Week one? But first we're gonna kick it over
to our guy, Kevin Wired some injury updates, some updates
(01:43:18):
in the sporting universe, and he's going to tell me
more bad news about the national teams of our United States.
What's up, Devin?
Speaker 12 (01:43:26):
The third place game between the United States and Canada
played overnight, and this was a matchup that we expected
to be in the gold medal game, but instead it
was the third place one, and it was Canada winning
by an even bigger surprise over in America one twenty
seven point eighteen Dylan Brooks leading the way with thirty
nine points. As Canada claims the bronze well, the United
States does not medal at all. As for the injury
(01:43:50):
news in the NFL, well, first, we have a story
coming from NFL Network saying that the Jets, while the
trade for Aaron Rodgers stalled, actually called the Rams to
inquire about Matthew Stafford and LA was admant that Stafford
was not going to be traded, but it didn't stop
the Jets and other teams from inquiring. This in from
NFL Network injury news, NFL Network reporting that tight end
(01:44:13):
George Kittle is expected to play today. He was listened
as questionable with a growing injury. Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon
Witherspoon is not expected to make his NFL debut today.
It'll be at least another week. Darren Waller of the Giants,
he was listed on the injury report with a hamstring issue,
but he is expected to play. That's according to Mike Garifolo.
(01:44:34):
Ramandre Stevenson of the Patriots he was questionable with an illness,
but he was in team meetings yesterday and he is
expected to play today. However, Devonte Parker, questionable because of
a knee injury, is not expected to play. Romeo Dobbs
is expected to play for the Packers, but he won't
have a full compliment of snaps, and Marquise Brown zach
Ertz for the Cardinals are both expected to play. Adam
(01:44:55):
Schefter saying that Bronco's wide receiver Jerry Judy, who's been
having that hamstring issue from the training camp, is not
expected to play today against the Raiders. Back to you guys,
thanks so much, Kevin, Mike Carmen, Bucky Brooks, Andy Furman,
with you here at Andy Furman FSR at Bucky Brooks
where you find them on x the artist formerly known
as Twitter. At least that's what it tells me in
(01:45:16):
my emails when I get a notifications find me over
at Swollen. I'm all the picks.
Speaker 5 (01:45:21):
We'll put them up as the morning rolls on, as
we'll have a few hours before kickoff to get a
full lather in and all the news and information. The
best information man in the business, Jay Glazer, as part
of Fox NFL Sunday Broadcasting Hall of Famers, And whenever
you say that and introduce some fellas, Jay just laughs
(01:45:41):
and just says me and my band of idiots, like
there you go, loving band of idiots for all those
so many years getting us started for games and of
course countdown to kick off. Here for all the information
and angles you need, Krakenberger stories for days and insights
that'll get you to the winners time and time again.
(01:46:02):
That's what we do here. We find winners, we find informations,
and we keep you entertained. This game is entertaining because
the two quarterbacks at the top of the heap Raiders
a Broncos. That might be the only thing entertaining about
this game is talking about the quarterbacks as we go,
the Broncos three and a half point favorites at home
forty four and a half, all the talking, all the
(01:46:24):
Sean Payton. If this goes wrong, it's all his fault.
Talk goes down because we actually get on the field
to play wide receivers. They've had their injuries. You've got
Javonte Williams coming back for the Raiders. You've got Jimmy
g Right, We got Jimmy g and Russell Wilson. What
else could you want? Storylines for days? Josh Jacobs is back,
(01:46:45):
Devonte Adams is ready, but can the Raiders get after
it on defense? No, Chandler Jones, he might go pull
the opportunity, you know, like we had the other night
where you're sitting in a skybox eating some popcorn and
just waving. I don't think he's bad got him into
the building either way. But the Broncos minus three and
(01:47:05):
a half home field. Does the feel good from the
Colorado Buffaloes carry over to Sunday? Andy Furman, I.
Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
Think it does, you know what? I like the Broncos,
I really do. I think Russell Wilson's got a surge
of confidence from Sean Payton. You know what Sean Payton
did to Nathaniel Hackett, and he did it not to
attack Hacket, although it turned out that way. He did
it to support Russell Wilson. That's basically what he did.
What Russell Wilson's problem was not so much as skill set,
(01:47:33):
his lack of confidence. What happened last year, it really was.
But look, the Raiders have a great secondary and they
got to feed the ball to just Jacobs. They got
Devonte Adams, they got everything going for them, Max Crosby,
they got these great players there. But the game is
in Denver, this hype, this new belief, this Sean Payton,
(01:47:53):
and I think Sean Payton's gonna revive Russell Wilson's playmaking
ability after a terrible year last year. And he's got
the weapons to do it. He really does. So I
like Denver, maybe buy a field goal, but I like
den For to win this game.
Speaker 4 (01:48:08):
And let's Sean.
Speaker 3 (01:48:09):
Unless Sean Payton has Big Ben in his clock, a
clock in his pocket where you can turn back Ranger
in their it's over. It's over for Russell Wilson. Being
the athlete that we saw. He's thirty three, thirty four
years of age.
Speaker 4 (01:48:26):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
He doesn't look comfortable in any system to me. I
don't think Russell Wilson plays any better. They may hide him,
but he's still who he is. I'm going with the
Raiders without Chandler Jones. It doesn't matter. He didn't really
give them much last year anyway. So this is Max
Crosby and the defense. They got to rise up. I
like the Raiders in this one.
Speaker 5 (01:48:44):
Don't punch me, Bro, Don't punch men one of the
great moments from the season one of Quarterback. We'll see
if there is another. Uh yeah, the Raiders intrigued me.
So long as Jimmy g is upright, they're always going
to be in games. We know that historically, Just and
he make the one play to get it done. Devontae
Adams a guy much like Mike Evans and some of
(01:49:05):
these others where we start doing the fanciful let's trade
them to one of these teams that might need some
help along the way, and we start photoshopping them into
other uniforms before we even kick the ball off. Isn't
a great technology? Is wonderful? All right? Two more games
to go to, one that maybe I'm the only guy
that really wants to watch it because I'm curious to
(01:49:25):
see exactly how bad it can get. Rams at Seahawks,
and that is for the Rams. You heard Kevin Wyres
report of Hey, the Jets kick the tires on Matthew Stafford.
He was kicking the tires on retirement. Now his wife
on a podcast talking about communication, which I don't think
was bad. I think it got more blown up than
(01:49:46):
it should have been. I thought that was just a Hey,
that's a sign of life. That's what we're all trying
to get through. Try communicating with your kids without a
phone being in the middle of it. Good luck Seattle
five and a half point home favorites. The Rams know
Cooper Cup we'd heard all of the mysterious things about
his leg. Finally goes to the I R. So it's
(01:50:06):
the to two at well show. Uh and Van Jefferson
not to be confused with the great Van Morrison still
touring at a city near you. That was a wonderful remark.
What say you, Bucky, do you have one to follow
that up? I got I got a random Van Morrison
song title because I'm can't appreciated the key today.
Speaker 3 (01:50:28):
Yeah, I feel I feel the random Van Morrison reference.
But I'm gonna go to the Seattle Seahawks. They had
a better team. I don't want to sit here on
radio and say that the Rams a terrible. They're terrible,
terrible and Matthew Stafford there's no one on the team
that you would say, I have to have this player
outside of those two guys, because that's not enough. The
Seattle Seahawks are primed and ready, and I know is
(01:50:51):
opening week and emotions and all that, it's not gonna matter.
Speaker 4 (01:50:54):
Seattle's gonna take him to the ship. This is gonna
be a beat down.
Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
Sean mcvagh, You made a mistake. Me and Bucky talked
about this today. You should have went to TV when
you can. You got the Super Bowl. You should have
went out on top. It's gonna be ugly. You're gonna
be crying today. Look, you gotta protect Matthew Stafford. You
gotta give him Tom in the pocket. You know what,
you didn't do it last year. I don't think it's
gonna happen today. What's Seattle gonna do? I think the
question is Gino Smith. Are we gonna see the same
Geno Smith?
Speaker 8 (01:51:17):
Will?
Speaker 2 (01:51:17):
Will it be as good as last year? I don't know,
but you know what. They're gonna run. They're gonna run
the football because the Rams had one of the worst
defenses against the run in the preseason this year, Kenneth Walker,
the third, Zach Sharpeney, They're gonna give these guys that
bull shove it in their belly and they're gonna run.
Seattle's gonna come back, Seattle's gonna win, and Seattle may
win bid this this game. They may be winn by
about fourteen, they may win by double figures today, But
(01:51:38):
Seattle wins this game.
Speaker 5 (01:51:40):
Gee no, gee, no, I just like being able to
do that. Three wide receivers you deploy, you got the
two running backs in the in the backfield there to
roll it up. Yeah, opportunity here. And as for McVeigh,
I think we bullied him back onto the sideline. But
he also looked at the tea leads and said, if
this team's really terrible, we get to do hard reset
(01:52:01):
in twenty twenty four, all the big money. He'll be
off the books. We can wave goodby to all these guys.
And maybe I've got Caleb Williams, maybe I've got Schadeur Sanders,
maybe I've got quarterback number three. Feel like you could
do a reboot suddenly that reinvigorates a man. What do
you think, I.
Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
Will tell you this much. I don't think Aaron Donald
lists the sees. I think he's traded by the trade deadline.
Oooh spicy, Yeah, I really did. What do you think
buff Beckus? Look, they're in a rebuild, they're gonna get
rid of I mean, right now, he's in the twilight
of his career. He's thirty three, and he's not the
number one rusher in the league. Right now, I think
Aaron Donald goes to some team that could use him
before the trade deadline.
Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
Man, this is tough. He still has to stay. I
can't imagine him trading away to franchise player.
Speaker 4 (01:52:51):
He has to stay.
Speaker 5 (01:52:52):
It's a new day yesterday, but it's an old day now.
Think about the bevy of picks you might be able
to get run a team in search of a path
rusher in the back end of the season. I like that.
I like the bold proclamation, Andy Furman. I am on
board with you, and one thing I need to do.
We celebrate milestones for our teammates here and some of
our friends in the larger community. Andy, I know you
(01:53:13):
were celebrating an anniversary this week. Want to show some
love to you and the household for that. I love
those the photo array you put up there, that was
just some with some fantastic stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Good photoshop.
Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
Huh oh, Well, you know what.
Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:53:27):
You went through the d aging process like Harrison Ford
in the Dial of Destiny, and all of a sudden
you were an action hero once again. A friend of ours,
also a colleague you worked with them for years and
longtime friend of ours. Mike North seventy one years old
today saying quote, feeling like Jagger. Great picture of him
and his wife. We celebrate milestones, we celebrate greatness. Happy birthday,
(01:53:50):
Mike North. Hopefully the Bears give you a good show today,
or at least something while you're walking your dog, something
to rant about.
Speaker 15 (01:53:57):
It's right.
Speaker 5 (01:53:57):
We continue here Fox Sports Radio, Fox Football Sunday Live
Fromthetirack dot Com Studios. We got one more big game
to talk about. Gee, I wonder what that is. And
then saddle up because you know you're getting a big
wing order in and you're getting a big frosty one.
We'll pick our chicken in beer Game of the week
as well. Coming up as we continue on Fox Football Sunday. Oh,
(01:54:20):
it rolls so fast here in the Tirak dot Com studios,
Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Harmin alongside Andy Furman and Bucky Brooks.
We're having a blast this morning. We got one more game, gentlemen,
that we have to talk about. A lot of promos,
a lot of bluster, a lot of hype. Sabertooth did
all the voiceovers for the fun and excitement of Hard Knocks.
(01:54:42):
Let's get it on. It's Monday night football, Bills and Jets,
all right, When we look at this one the most
hyped game I think in recent memory in the National
Football League, and that Thursday game got a lot of hype.
It's got nothing compared to the Hyperbolean excitement for anything
related to Colorado football right now. But for the National
Football League, it's all about the New York Football Jets
(01:55:05):
and the greatest tourist the New York, New Jersey scene
has ever seen in Aaron Rodgers Buffalo two and a
half point favorites on the road, forty five and a
half year total. I don't know what's real, what's imagined
in terms of Digs versus Allen versus the offensive coordinator.
I don't know how much towards the end of the season,
(01:55:26):
as much as we got disappointed that the Buffalo Bills
couldn't finish the job, how much their season was derailed
by what happened to Tamar Hamlin in terms of energy, emotion,
and the ability to finish out a season, and whether
there's a carryover effect or we have the great reset
with Hamlin being there and available for Week one. What
(01:55:46):
I do know is I will be there with rapt attention.
Folks will be able to watch me live and die
and laugh and cry on Fox Sports Radio tomorrow night.
As this game is live and in living color. I'll
be opposite my Jets to partner Jason Smith. So Bucky Brooks,
I start with you. Aaron Rodgers the opening game, Garrett Wilson,
(01:56:07):
Sauce Gardner, Quentin Williams, all of these star power out
for the good folks. Can they get a win at
home to get things rolling?
Speaker 4 (01:56:17):
Mmmm?
Speaker 3 (01:56:19):
This has to be a feel good moment. This is
almost like the Super Bowl for all the Jets fans.
I'm gonna go with Aaron Rodgers and the Jets being
able to get it done. You can see Robert Sala
has a little attitude we heard on the commercial when
they were talking about the clip of him talking about
playing hard and all the F bombs and talking about
this team is beyond that. Well, we're gonna see. I
think it happened for the first week. The true tests
(01:56:41):
for the Jets will be as they get into it
and as the aging Aaron Rodgers has to play in
colder weather when he doesn't feel great and the wins
in the middletains, I think it becomes different. But I'm
gonna go with the Jets in this one. I think
they win the opener.
Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
Huh like that? I gotta saw m up. I'll tell
you right, the run for the Buffalo Bills is done.
They're finished. Okay, Yeah, they've hit their peak and now
it's downhill for them. No run game, no Von Miller
in this game.
Speaker 5 (01:57:09):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:57:10):
You look at what they have in New York right now.
Running back brist Hall, running back Dalvin Cook, wide receiver,
Garrett Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, momentum, They got everything going for him.
The game is in New York. Go to Meadowlands, New Jersey.
It's over for the Bills. I promise you that, and
really and truly it's gonna happen. Jason Smith's gonna be happy.
So that's good for you, right, Jason Smith is because
(01:57:33):
he's insufferable.
Speaker 5 (01:57:34):
Well, he declared himself the mayor of Detroit on Friday
because he picked the Lions to win a game. I
told him about all of the plumbing, and I got
a bunch of stats at the reading about infrastructural problems
and the fact that you got a lot of rat
problems on our rat rankings. They're now up to fourth
behind Chicago and New York. And San Francisco. So I
(01:57:58):
mean he's got a lot of infrastructure problems in a
winning is only going to cure so much. If you're
declaring yourself Mayor.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
He should have went on the air and said, look,
if the Lions win, there's no school for the kids
in Detroit Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:58:09):
I like the way you think National Holidays because he
actually does vacation in Detroit. Not to make it about him,
oh geez, like he lives in southern California, but because
his wife's family's from Michigan, somehow he travels back to
Detroit for the holidays. Riddle me that Batman makes no sense.
We're brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling

just saying, for one day, your hero is Gabe Davis,
because he won't get lost in the sauce. All right. Last, finally,
the chicken and Beer Game of the week. I E,
our crew, what are we getting down with? What's the
(01:58:51):
game that I've got to watch for three hours with
all my snacks and beverages to roll me through. Andy.
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
You first with think maybe Packers at Bears. I think
Packers as Bears is right there, although follow closely by
Dolphins charges.
Speaker 5 (01:59:07):
Nicely done. I will get you your hot dogs in
the mail directly, Shay, come on in.
Speaker 15 (01:59:11):
I got Brown's Bengals.
Speaker 5 (01:59:13):
There you go, you guys, and I know you guys
are working on a wager offline.
Speaker 15 (01:59:16):
Here wings wings, Wings, more wings.
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Baby wings.
Speaker 5 (01:59:19):
There we go. Mark, you got a game the Bears Packers.
I think he's got a Bears jersey on. Bucky, what's yours?
Speaker 4 (01:59:28):
Well, I gotta be Niners and Steelers. That's game.
Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
What that's good to you?
Speaker 5 (01:59:31):
Now? One of the great stats coming out of that
one is when TJ. Watt plays, Let me find my numbers.
They are fifty nine to twenty six and two. Oh
you like that? So there there's the tail of the tape.
He's available today. I'll take the Steelers as road or
as home underdogs here for week one. So much on
(01:59:53):
the board, so much to look forward to, Andy, great hour,
It goes by so fast, Bucky and I can continue
here next on Fox Football Sunday, It's Fox Sports Radio Greetings,
Welcome in another beautiful hour here of Fox Football Sunday.
Wherever you are listening, however you're getting us on your phones,
on your computers through terrestrial radio as you're out and about.
(02:00:17):
Maybe you're sitting in line trying to get to a
tailgate at a stadium anytown, USA. We appreciate you being
part of our extended family. Mike Harmon alongside Bucky Brooks.
Five years in the league, NFL dot Com, Fox Sports One,
Fox Sports Radio, high school coach, mentor, analyst and a
guy that he will be your hype man. And today
(02:00:38):
he's got a big game that he'll be ready to
call with the Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts. How many
great adjectives have you looked up or readied to discuss
the play and exploits of Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (02:00:54):
I'm ready for all things. He is the biggest grab
bag that we will see, the biggest mischiy the NFL
Draft at the quarterback position.
Speaker 4 (02:01:02):
We now get a chance.
Speaker 3 (02:01:03):
To see him in his debut, and who knows what
we're going to see. We're going to see the super
athlete everyone has talked about how he blew up the
combine and how his numbers and all those measurements and
dimensions are better than Cam Newton, but we haven't seen
him play to that degree. Now we fast forward put
him in the NFL and he starts Week one. This
(02:01:23):
is I mean, this is crazy to imagine a guy
with so few stars he's going to start an NFL
game and be ready to play.
Speaker 4 (02:01:31):
At a high level.
Speaker 3 (02:01:32):
But we'll see if Shane styck And can kind of
pull a rapit out the hat as a magician.
Speaker 5 (02:01:36):
Last opener win for Indianapolis twenty thirteen. They've won the
last five matchups against the Jaguars in this building. The
roof will be closed. I did get that Twitter update
from the Colts and Jim Mersey a little bit earlier,
but the Colts favored in the last ten games, this
(02:01:57):
one Jaguars. I've got him going to the super Bowl.
So if it goes wrong, people in Jacksonville, send it
my way. Five point favorites in this one. Short receiving corps.
The running back position a bit of a committee with
no Jonathan Taylor, But you know that's one of the
great storylines for this week. Bucky is the number of
young quarterbacks quarterbacks shuffling that we're doing because it's not
(02:02:21):
like it was you know, you and I and when
you were playing. Its like if a guy was there
generally if he moved, he was done, or it was
obvious on the roster you had the air apparent. It
wasn't a let's just go find the next guy or guys,
you know, making the choice to move on to greener
pastures or change things up. Russell Wilson Aaron Rodgers of
(02:02:42):
Late just a different world. So today I feel like
we're we joke about the Christmas feeling right of a
Christmas morning run on packages and wrapping paper. But that's
kind of what I'm feeling here as we get ready
for this week one slate.
Speaker 4 (02:02:57):
Yeah, I feel you.
Speaker 3 (02:02:59):
Feel on that part of it, like just being really
excited about all those things. And the Jaguars are one
of many teams that people are excited about in terms
of their future and what could happen. But here's what
I will say, because the season is such a marathon,
you can't overreact to what takes.
Speaker 4 (02:03:13):
Place the first few weeks of the season.
Speaker 3 (02:03:15):
Depending on how your team approached the preseason, the first
four games are an extension of the preseason. Coaches trying
to figure out what they have, the team trying to
find this own identity, players trying to get comfortable playing
with other players, and so there's a lot of stuff
that's in play. If you're a team that is a
fast starter, though, if you can kind of master that
part of it, hit the ground running, jump out to
(02:03:37):
a three and ohero four and oh start, it really
gives you a leg up on the competition. But fan bases,
you can't overreact. You just want to get to the
quarter pole at two and two. You just want to
be in the hunt. All you're trying to do is
be in the hunt. So when you get to the
last half of the season, you now play those meaningful games.
You just don't want to lose too much of it
(02:03:58):
in the beginning of the year. You have to have
a little patience as your team is trying to find itself.
Speaker 5 (02:04:03):
It's the one truism, you know. It became a mantra
with me, friends, family, that you know you'd blame whoever
the Bears coach was at the time of something perhaps
going wrong in your life. And for a while I
had some things going on and unfortunately became blame Lovey,
but he had the one truism that I always thought
was appropriate. Now we had the seventeenth game, but was
(02:04:26):
let's measure it four games at a time and see
where we're at, see if we're making progress. Now that's
not good enough for the local pundits, and certainly here
in the hot take into incubator of sports talk radio
and sports television. I mean, because look, after Thursday night's
game against Detroit, you would think Kansas City as a team,
(02:04:46):
you can eliminate him from playoff consideration, Like we're in
a guillatae league, and since you lost, they have to
those players have to be dispersed.
Speaker 3 (02:04:55):
Yeah, yeah, it was survival pool.
Speaker 4 (02:04:58):
It would be great. But well let's.
Speaker 5 (02:05:03):
Go to that game, you know, just you know, for
those that didn't hear your commentary earlier this morning with
with Andy Furman, you can read all the Bucky stuff
NFL dot com. Of course, follow him on x at
Bucky Brooks. But Kadarius Tony, I saw a lot of
people taking up for his injuries and and everything else,
and I respect that. But you're on the field and
the ball hits you in the hands multiple times. You're
(02:05:26):
paid to catch the ball. Even if you fall down,
you do the old Peyton Manning. I'm in the pocket
and pressure's coming, turtle move. You got to secure the
football and get down. And so yes, Detroit won that game.
I had to listen to Smith do it Thursday and
Friday taking the grand victory laps like, Okay, succeed and proceed.
It is a game, and they will get better. But
(02:05:48):
I gotta I gotta think the Chiefs will as well.
And if you get Travis Kelce back out on that field,
not only is he making a difference as a pass catcher,
but everything else opens up and pedestrian and tertiary receivers
suddenly become that much more effective because while they're out
on an island by themselves.
Speaker 3 (02:06:08):
You know, I feel you, and I understand everybody's take
on Cadarius Tony. I would just say, like and defensive
him a little bit. When you miss all of training
camp and you miss most of the preseason, it's like
you and I, Mike Harmon, if we're away from the
mic for like a month, that first show when you
come back, there's some rust to it in terms of
just your rhythm, your cadence and those things and so
(02:06:31):
everyone is talking about, yeah, but the ball hit him
in his hands. But what happens is if you don't
feel right with your legs when you're running, like you're
distracted mentally from being able to do the things. I
would say it's probably the coach's fault for putting them
out there as opposed to him going out there. Because
if you only practice Tuesday, did a walk through Wednesday,
didn't play it on Thursday, that ain't enough time to
(02:06:52):
get ready to games feed and the game moves so
much faster than practice. But he has to catch a
ball if he's out there. And that's why when players
do noble thing, the courageous thing, like hey, I'm gonna
suck it up and play for the team, that's great.
Speaker 4 (02:07:05):
But when you play, you judged just like everybody else.
Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
We saw it with James Jamis Winston when he played
with the broken thumb.
Speaker 4 (02:07:11):
We saw it with Dak Prescott.
Speaker 3 (02:07:13):
No one cares, and so you have to understand that
when you walk in the field, no excuses, no explanations,
you are judged because it's the bottom line business. You're
judged by your production and your performance, and nobody cares
how you derived that production.
Speaker 5 (02:07:28):
Well, Josh Allen with the UCL injury last year, right,
yes with it. Nobody cares. Philip Rivers played with you know,
basically nuct taped together his final couple of years. Doesn't matter.
You're on the field, like he started throwing, like he
was Dan Quisenberry out there. There you go, showing my
age eighties baseball Kansas City Royals reference Babel. But just
(02:07:50):
the idea that you're on the field, right, and when
we have to assess it. It's not like someone's giving us, Hey,
what's his power bar? Look like he's in a video game.
All right, he's playing at twenty percent. Let's get him
something so we can power him up. No, you're on
the field, so you have to find a way and
push on through. Andy Reid and company will be fine.
(02:08:12):
Patrick Mahomes is still your quarterback. And as we mentioned
a little bit last hour, think we're in that new
age of the NFL. There are no how should we say,
sacred cows and anything. So if the price is right,
trades will be made. Right. If you can't come to
a long term extension and you think you're in rebuild
rich slash reset mode, guys will be moved We're broadcasting
(02:08:34):
live from the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire rack
dot Com. We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers kiro rac dot com. The way tire buying
should be. Baltimore Ravens. We talk about Kelsey not being there.
They're number one wide receiver slash tight end. Right. We
(02:08:56):
get into the fights over the franchise tags and what
you want to be tagged. Let's face it, Andrews has
been the offense for Lamar Jackson downfield these last few years,
almost exclusively at times. Now you bring another pass catchers,
Odell Beckham Junior, you have Zay Flowers, hoping Bateman is
more than just a war of words with DaCosta kind
(02:09:19):
of goading him into bringing in more wide receivers and
augmenting things. But intrigued by Monkin and what they have offensively, JK.
Dobbins going up against what was last year one of
the worst run defenses we have seen, but Andrews potentially
being out and Lamar Jackson with the over under for
the season at twelve and a half thirteen games played.
(02:09:42):
Bucky but it doesn't matter Week one. What can Damiko
Ryans do to disrupt this Baltimore offense.
Speaker 3 (02:09:49):
He's gonna have to do a lot, because the hard
part in game one is you don't know what the
opponent really is running.
Speaker 4 (02:09:55):
You have their preseason tape.
Speaker 3 (02:09:56):
They probably pulled some of the Georgia tape that Todd
Monkeys was run to the offense.
Speaker 4 (02:10:00):
You just don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:10:01):
So the first half you're just trying to assess. The
second half you're trying to adapt and then figure out
a way to dominate the opponent. For Demiko Ryans, he
has to throw some tricks out there. I think you'll
see them trying to change the picture. For Lamar Jackson,
try and get after him a little bit, maybe with
a mix of pressure but a lot of coverage.
Speaker 4 (02:10:20):
And you want to keep eyes on the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:10:22):
If I'm to Houston Texans, I want to kind of
challenge Lamar. Okay, you want to throw the ball all
over the yard, how about we sit in this zone,
We play our eyes on your eyes and see if
you really can fit this into tight windows which you're
timing and anticipation, and as the game goes on, you
then tweak and adjust based on how.
Speaker 4 (02:10:42):
Lamar Jackson reacts.
Speaker 3 (02:10:43):
That if he comes out hot, okay, then you go
to man and man and see if he can handle
those things. But if he's struggling in the zone, the
old Syracuse two to three zone where he can't hit
an outside jump shot, well then you keep making them
do it. And I know their wide receiver corps is
upgraded from what they had. But this is about Lamar
Jackson being the thrower, not the dynamic weapon that he's
(02:11:04):
been in those previous three four five years. It's a
different look. Let's see if Lamar Jackson is really ready
for what he asked.
Speaker 5 (02:11:11):
For forty five and sixteen as a starter, Lamar Jackson
get this stat historically, Baltimore forty three and oh as
a double digit favorite. You like that. And then just
looking from the other side, the Baltimore defense, which we
always expect. You know, it's like the Ronco products again
showing my age infomercials late at night. Here we are
(02:11:33):
with the rotisserie chicken long before you were buying them
as a you know, lost leader at Costco. Is the
idea that you know the defense is going to get
after it. Well, the Texans already down three offensive linemen.
We haven't played a snap. Hmm, long day ahead for
(02:11:54):
the young quarterback and this it could be a difficult one.
But you know, I'm curious to see Namiko Ryan scheming
it up, what he's able to put together in this one. Bucky,
but you know, just Baltimore with a new look. It's
the excitement and the shiny new toy syndrome. Let's get
one more game in. I know we've we've over the
(02:12:15):
last couple hours. You and Andy previewed a bunch and
then we finished the slate last hour. But what's your
read on New Orleans as a squad? Bo It's a
pretty hype based on what the division looks like. But
are you a Derek Carr believer?
Speaker 4 (02:12:29):
I don't believe in him. I think he's fine. He's
middle of the road.
Speaker 3 (02:12:33):
We talk about quarterbacks fifteen sixteen, seventeen eighteen. He's somewhere
in there. For me, I need to see what he's
like when the pressure's on. He's always been able to
kind of hide behind the shield of the Raiders dysfunction.
You know, he's never had a team, guys, he doesn't
have this.
Speaker 5 (02:12:48):
Ever had a defense.
Speaker 3 (02:12:49):
Look yeah, oh man, he's battling so hard, but he
just doesn't have enough run. Okay, one playoff appearance to
maybe two playoff appearances.
Speaker 4 (02:12:57):
He didn't play in the first one. But you know,
even when we saw.
Speaker 3 (02:13:01):
Him in that game against Cincinnati, the veteran quarterback didn't
understand situational football. So he is in New Orleans and
the expectation is that he needs to be Drew brees light,
meaning he needs to play at a high level get
this team going at the right pace.
Speaker 4 (02:13:19):
I don't know if he can do it.
Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
The weapons are there, the veteran leadership is there. This
team is an older team, so they should kind of
reign over the division. I just don't know if Derek
Carr is good enough to take them to the great
level that they want to be.
Speaker 5 (02:13:31):
I do know that he is yoked, and for the
first three weeks we'll see it off. A lot of
Jamal Williams in your backfield rolling forward for the New
Orleans cents. I'm taking Tennessee on the road to win
this game out right, by the way. I mean, because look,
if I got to do the either or, I think
I'd rather have Ryan Tannehill than Derek Carr. I mean,
(02:13:52):
I know that's not exactly picking, you know, from the
best of the lot, but if we're talking middling quarterbacks,
I'll take Verabel and company with Derrick Henry still running
the football and bringing in DeAndre Hopkins and Treylon Burke
spokes to play how well and how much you'll be
able to give them a go? You know, we at
least have that back in the mix after the preseason injury.
(02:14:17):
So curious times, no question about it. A lot of
uncertainty for squads, but hope Springs Eternal will continue with
Week one of the NFL. Get a little deeper into
that San Francisco Pittsburgh matchup, because you know Brock Perdy
has been deified. They built a statue to the guy
(02:14:37):
over a very short run in twenty twenty two. I
might be tearing it down, and I might do it
next year alongside Bucky Brooks. I'm by Carmen Fox Football, Son.
That's what's called teas of the business. You want to
crowd them, crowd them, but I'm taking the crown off
his head, putting it on my own. Next here on
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome Back in Fox Football Sunday, Fox
(02:15:01):
Sports Radio Mike Harmon alongside Bucky Brooks with you five
BUCkies work NFL dot Com Jaguars. It's part of their
coverage later on today as they face the Indianapolis Colts.
A little divisional action right off the jump, A five
point road favorite of course, with us every week on
Fox Sports Radio, CMFs one, NFL network. He's everywhere and
(02:15:25):
he's coaching on the sidelines as well. How's the season
flowing for you so far? Coach?
Speaker 4 (02:15:30):
Going pretty well?
Speaker 3 (02:15:31):
Right now, we're sitting at two to one and one,
but we're beginning to kind of find our identity, find
our sales. Got one week before the bye week, and
so we get a chance to see where we're at
a bye week, make some adjustments, see if we can
finish strong.
Speaker 5 (02:15:43):
Talked about it a lot last year. I mean, how
many forward passes have we implemented this year?
Speaker 3 (02:15:48):
Okay, so we've had been averaging three passes a game
prior to last week, but unfortunately my quarterback got hurt
in this game, so we didn't have an opportunity to thought.
Speaker 4 (02:15:59):
Pass this week. See next week. If one of our
other guys can you don't get the ball thrown.
Speaker 5 (02:16:03):
I bring that up only because winning football is winning football. Buggy, Right,
If I do something, well, you have to stop me, right,
Remember everybody made fun of the that Patriots Bills game.
If it's winning football, it doesn't matter. I don't care
about the gaudy statistics. The only guy that would care
is if they've got an incentive in their contract otherwise
(02:16:25):
succeed and proceed maybe, Yeah, you.
Speaker 4 (02:16:30):
Do whatever you have to do to win. And so
that's what's so fun about the games starting this week.
Speaker 3 (02:16:34):
We've had a couple of weeks of college to kind
of set the appetizer right, kind of wet a appetite,
but now it's time for the main course.
Speaker 4 (02:16:41):
In the NFL is always the main course. This should
be a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (02:16:45):
Yeah, so many games where you look at them and
you're like, all, I think, I know how this is
going to work. But as we know, the NFL is
the greatest throw ride you have outside of insert your
favorite theme park and roller coaster here. And you know
that one of the games on the slate for this week,
and we already have another of our big tight ends.
So fantasy football wise, folks have just absolutely been hating
(02:17:07):
life because the tight end position was already a mess
coming in last I joked with Smith on Thursday Night, Right,
Noah Gray has got to step in for Travis Kelcey.
He finishes with what would be six point one Fantasy points.
Like you know, if you extrapolated that over a course
of a full season last year, that would have ranked
(02:17:27):
him seventh among scoring tight ends. So you are talking
about a top heavy position. So Andrews probably not gonna
go for Baltimore. We already had Kelsey out and now
George Kittles on the injury report quote expecting Slash hoping
to play later today. As San Francisco plays at Pittsburgh,
they're two or two and a half point favorites, depending
(02:17:49):
on where you're shopping the over under in this one
forty one defensive battle, Nick Bosa, I don't think the
weight of his wallet will affect his play here. He'll
jump in, he'll be ready to go. On the other side,
we got TJ. Watt. You got two of the best
defensive players in the game. But all the celebration, deification
(02:18:09):
and lauding of Brock Purdy, look I like the guy
you know coming in into the league when he got
that many starts in contrast to some of these young players,
like You're gonna watch a little later with Anthony Richardson,
where we have this at least a full resume, right,
the CV has enough data points. You're going all right?
I think I know what I got here. Five and
(02:18:30):
zero last year, thirteen touchdowns, four picks, but coming off
a big injury and going up against what is perennially
one of the best pass rushes in the game, strike
me as a guy that, given the health concerns of
many of their key component parts, San Francisco is one
of those teams that I short on the season, despite
(02:18:52):
whatever the NFC's got going on, and where there might
be lack of depth, Bucky. And for this one against
Pittsburgh on the road, I'll take Pittsburgh with Najie Harris
and Jalen Warren getting a split and that Kenny Picktt
takes a step forward.
Speaker 4 (02:19:06):
I like the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (02:19:09):
And before you came on, I talked to Andy Ferman
about the Cleveland Browns being a team that I believe
could be the class of the division. But the reason
I say that is that this is a jumble. All
these teams are close, and Pittsburgh could just easily surpass
the Browns and the Bengals and the Ravens as the
top team. I like the Stillers because last year the
way they finished, that young team finishing the way they did,
(02:19:31):
being able to finish with a winning record, being able
to get that experience in terms of learning how to
close out games was critical. I like Kenny Pickett kind
of stepping into the big stage at the end of
the year and playing better. I like George Pickens and
Deontay Johnson on the outside. George Pickens may be emerging
as a star in that passing game to go with
Naja Harris, who can anchor the running game but also
(02:19:52):
give them that. But then the Stellers are back to
playing still a football on defense. If this team plays
at a top five level on defense, they're solid and
balance on offense, They're gonna be problematic for opponents in
the AFC. So what you're talking about with the Steelers,
I'm all on board. This is a team that is
a rock'm soccer robot team. And make no mistake, when
Mike Tomlin put out that quote that everyone has talked about, Hey,
(02:20:15):
before you box, you got a spar he was gearing
his team up to deal with the physicality and the
toughness of the forty nine ers. The forty nine ers
prioritize physicality over everything.
Speaker 4 (02:20:26):
And so he was ratying his team to do that.
Today is that.
Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
Initial test, that pop quiz when we start college, just
to see where his young team fits. He wants to
see if they're ready to go toe to toe with
the heavyweights. If they can go toe to toe with
the niners, he's gonna feel great about the way he
could look for his team the rest of the season.
Speaker 5 (02:20:43):
I dig that you brought in a little Nick Saban
licking his wounds after the mid term lost to test yesterday,
because that was his quote the post game. Look at
you wait to bring it all together here out of
Fox Football Sunday. All right. I give you this stat
because it'll inform the next part of the conversation because
we're going to go to that battle in the AFC
(02:21:05):
North in a second. Underdogs in Week one over the
last ten years, nearly fifty six percent against the spreads,
and this one that'll lead into that next conversation. Divisional
dogs thirty five fifteen and one against the spread. That's
a robust seventy percent home or away. So with that
(02:21:29):
marinating in your mind, we'll talk Cleveland and Cincinnati in
a moment. First, let's go over to our man, Isaac
loewen Kron, one of the busiest men I know. He
might have as many things on the CV and time
management skills like you, Bucky Brooks at Isaac Loancron where
you find him on Twitter.
Speaker 16 (02:21:46):
Heyboddy Ah, thank you for that very nice introduction. It's
all about Asana. That is the app I use to
manage everything fell as. We start with a report by
USA Today which reports that Michigan State University is investigating
us sexual harassment accusation against head football coach Mel Tucker.
The accusation is being made by Brenda Tracy, a rape
(02:22:07):
survivor who works to educate athletes about sexual violence. Tracy
told USA Today quote the idea that someone could know
me and say they understand my trauma, but then reinflict
that trauma is disgusting unquote. USA Today says that Tucker
told the Michigan State University investigator quote, Miss Tracy's distortion
(02:22:27):
of our mutually consensual and intimate relationship in the allegations
of sexual exploitation has really affected me. I am not
proud of my judgment, but I did not engage in
misconduct by any definition unquote on the field. On Saturday night,
eleventh ranked Texas won at number three Alabama thirty four
to twenty four, breaking Alabama's fifty seven game non conference
(02:22:49):
regular season winning streak. Long Coln quarterback Quinn viewers through
for three forty nine, three touchdown passes, no interceptions. Six
thranked USC over Stanford fifty six to ten. Caleb Willy
completed nineteen of twenty one for two to eighty one,
two touchdown passes, no interceptions. Thirteenth RNGTH Oregon a thirty
eight to thirty win at Texas Tech. Oregon quarterback Bone
(02:23:09):
knicks thirty two of forty four for three to fifty
nine with two touchdown passes no interceptions. Number seventeen North
Carolina defeated Appalachian State in double overtime forty to thirty four,
and Washington State knocked off number nineteen Wisconsin thirty one
to twenty two. Guys, back to you.
Speaker 5 (02:23:27):
At Isaaclohan Cron where you find him on Twitter. He'll
be as part of the radio team later on today
the Chargers and the Dolphins Live from sofar fifty one
is you're over under good times potentially in the books
there we'll see about the Chargers and what they bring
(02:23:49):
to bear. We'll get the watch games as we continue
here about fifteen minutes from now, but we stay in
the AFC North. We've got a couple of heavyweights getting
after it. Cleveland a team that folks are starting to
get a little bit excited about, and I think part
of it becomes the all right, I can't pick Kansas City,
I can't pick the usual suspects. Let's get a little
(02:24:12):
bit cheeky and see what we can find. And then
with Cincinnati, well, a lot of weight on the shoulder
of Joe Burrow. He'll be ready to play later on.
Today they didn't come to a contract. I got concerts
on the brain because I had was seeing something in
my stream. They had to cancel on Ed sheeran concert
in Vegas yesterday right before it went on, Bucky because
(02:24:33):
they had stage issues.
Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
Oh that's not good.
Speaker 5 (02:24:37):
But like a boss, he came out and if you
stood in line, he took a picture with you and
signed autographs because he felt terrible about it. So stand
up guy there. But anyway, so contract with t. Higgins.
They weren't able to figure that out just yet. Twenty
four years old. Next in line, but a forty eight
total here for Cleveland and Cincinnati. This is the one
(02:24:58):
hundredth battle for oh Io. Nick Chubb one of the
last throwback you know, upright runners through the tackles. I
think we'll see that you don't depend on him to
catch eighty balls again, not that he's incapable of making
some plays as a receiver, but we talked north south.
But Cleveland folks starting to jump on this bandwagon a
(02:25:21):
little bit here, Bucky in week one, a great opportunity.
They've had great success against Joe Burrow in the past
and he's coming in at less than one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (02:25:32):
Yeah, this is funny.
Speaker 3 (02:25:34):
The robbery Cincinnati, Cleveland, Cincinnati being so dismissive of Cleveland.
Jamar Chase, I'm sure people saw there, saw his comments
that kind of went viral.
Speaker 4 (02:25:44):
The Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (02:25:45):
To me, no one has really talked about Jim Schwartz
taken over the defense, and you may not like him
because of the ar against and stuff that he kind
of displays when he's been a head coach and some
of those other things. You can't deny his ability to get.
Speaker 4 (02:25:56):
A defense to play at a high level.
Speaker 3 (02:25:58):
Did it at Tennessee, He's done it in Philadelphia as
a Super Bowl winner.
Speaker 4 (02:26:01):
He knows what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (02:26:03):
He has a Darius Smith and Miles Garrett as two
toys to play with as pass rushers. Secondary, he can
line up and play man to man. He wants to
bring five on every down. This offense is going to
score points. Deshaun Watson will play better because he's the
second year of Kevin Stefanski system.
Speaker 4 (02:26:20):
He's been a top five quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:26:22):
He has put all of that stuff in the past
because they had a full offseason to knock off the RUSS.
Speaker 4 (02:26:27):
To me, this is a team that is kind of
like a sleeping giant.
Speaker 3 (02:26:30):
If they get out to a fast start this season,
Kevin Stefanski and this team can build into being a
monster down the stretch.
Speaker 4 (02:26:37):
This is a really good team. I'm excited to see
what they do today against since.
Speaker 5 (02:26:40):
It it's funny you mentioned Schwartz and he's just the
latest and a great number of coaches we've seen through
the years. It's okay to just be really good as
a coordinator and just not have the temperament or anything
to go through as a head coach. Now, one of
the guys that always gets brought up on that list
is Wade Phillips, who I remind for actually had success
(02:27:01):
as a head coach. He just wasn't you know, a
sexy head coach right in terms of how things played out,
because well, the defense led the way for him. But
you know, guys like him, Norv Turner going back a
little ways here for those that have been around and
watching the NFL, while there's a number of guys that look,
sometimes you just get to that level where you dominate
(02:27:23):
and then you have to start adding all these other
responsibilities and it spreads your too thin.
Speaker 3 (02:27:29):
There's a lot of truth to that because being a
head coach is so much different than being a offensive
or defensive coordinator. You're dealing with one unit the head coach,
and not only dealing with all three units offense, defense,
special teams. You're dealing with time management, you're dealing with
situational awareness, You're dealing with issues that go up top.
Speaker 4 (02:27:45):
When it comes to personnel.
Speaker 3 (02:27:47):
So much more than just a I'm gonna call the game,
make sure my guys are in place and we play fast,
and we knocked people out. It's a different hustle, and
some people are just built to keep it really simple
like that. And Jim Swartz might that despite his intellect
and those things, he might just be better saying, Hey,
give me the unit. I'll figure out how to get
this team to play well.
Speaker 5 (02:28:07):
He's Bucky Brooks on Mike Carmen here, Fox Football Sunday,

National Football League, let's talk about a guy who's now
(02:28:29):
a coordinator off and trying to make his name, and
he's got a head coach that hasn't done him many
favors in the offseason, and that I'm talking about Eric
Benemy and what he's got in Washington. McLaurin expected to go.
You've got Dotson, You've got Logan Thomas, who I would
hang a huge star on for your fantasy fortunes for
this week. You got two guys in the backfield in
(02:28:51):
Gibson and Robinson that have quit himself well, and you
get it put on the plate for you as a
seven point favorite with Arizona coming in here. The last
time that Washington was favored by at least a touchdown
Bucky was twenty seventeen. M how about that.
Speaker 4 (02:29:10):
That's a long time.
Speaker 5 (02:29:11):
But what are you expecting this offense to look like
under the enemy here, Sam Howell. I think as soon
as Ron Rivera said the quote, if I knew what
I had, he would have been starting right as soon
as that gets out. In addition to everything else you've said,
I think I would have given him a paint slip
and said you're done, Eric b enemy, congratulations, here's your chance.
(02:29:33):
I'm done with it.
Speaker 3 (02:29:35):
He's had so many egregious errors as a head coach
when it comes to like little stuff that you might
think but please don't say like you may think that,
but please don't say it.
Speaker 4 (02:29:43):
What utter debt? You know?
Speaker 5 (02:29:45):
Right?
Speaker 3 (02:29:45):
And so now everyone is looking particularly if Sam Howell
goes out and plays great. Let's just say he plays
great this week, coming off the heels of having a
solid performance at the end of last year. Everyone's gonna
look at you like, hey, dude, y'all took him in
the fifth round, you had him in camp, and you
didn't play him.
Speaker 4 (02:30:01):
To me, that's the part that's crazy, just putting.
Speaker 5 (02:30:05):
All that out there, like all the noise and not
backing him when the report of hey, players are going
to Rivera to complain about how hard they're being coached.
It was like, you didn't interview the guy and all
of a sudden, he just showed up at your doorstep. Tada,
I'm a squatter and I'm taking over your offensive coordinator role.
Like there's a communication with it.
Speaker 4 (02:30:28):
It's like, ahaa, yeah, you didn't know what you were hiring.
You don't know what you're getting.
Speaker 3 (02:30:33):
Like all of it is stupid, and it just it
just puts him in a poor light as a leader,
as a head coach. You're supposed to know all these things.
You're supposed to be in charge of all of this stuff,
and the fact that he doesn't know it or can't
figure it out, it's an issue.
Speaker 4 (02:30:48):
It's a major issue.
Speaker 5 (02:30:49):
Yeah, when we talk about coaching, like, I don't know
what the odds are, but odds are for first fired.
I mean, it's just got to be a smiling picture
of Ron Rivera. As we sit here live and livingcolor
forthety rack dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios. As we continue,
we'll take a look at two other big games on
the slate, and you know a player to watch bye,
(02:31:11):
because we need some fantasy ninjas mixed therein. As we
roll through here on Fox Sports Radio, he's Bucky Brooks
on Mike Harmon, Fox Sports Radios, Fox Football Sunday continues.

(02:32:15):
being part of the extended family. As Bucky and I
evangelized the greatness of Week one of the NFL one
game already in the book, our guy Chris Proffetti comes
up with the guys here in about ten minutes, he's feeling,
you know, he's chesty because the Lions go to one
and oh, I'm gonna look at another team in division
here a little later, Bucky, Minnesota five and a half
(02:32:36):
point favorites at home against Tampa forty five and a
half is your total, Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin,
you got a little bit of Rashad White in the backfield.
Minnesota last year absolutely atrocious on the back end. And
we talk about the success of one score games with
Kevin O'Connell, which was the exact opposite of the year
(02:32:58):
before with Zimmer figure it falls somewhere in between, and
I like Alexander Madison. I don't know how much Alexander
Madison is in every down back. We will find out
early is this one that Tampa can go and steal
in weak one?
Speaker 4 (02:33:12):
They can because their experience.
Speaker 3 (02:33:15):
They can because Minnesota is also breaking in a new
defensive coordinator in Brian Floydes, which could you know, compose
some problems a little bit. This is one where Minnesota
quickly could find out what they're missing in Dalvin Cook.
I like what you said about Alexander Madison. I don't
know if he can tote the load. There's some guys
that are great and flashes, but then when you get
(02:33:36):
him a full dose, they're not the same guy.
Speaker 4 (02:33:38):
And so we need to see that.
Speaker 3 (02:33:40):
Tampa on the road, Ty Bowles trying to get He's
trying to reestablish his credibility. There are a lot of
people that are looking at them sideways in the locker room.
He takes over, this team falls apart. Can't he bring
this team back? This is one where they had to
put a lot of emphasis on a man. Let's re
establish who we are in the brand, and that means
they got to reestablish that defense. I mean, I wouldn't
be surprised to see Tampa Bay knock the Vikings off
(02:34:01):
on this one.
Speaker 5 (02:34:02):
Plus five and a half on the Road gave you
all the stats about the underdogs week one coming in
at a fifty six percent clip against the number over
the last decade. You'll have more, I'm sure on countdown
to kick off with that stat and permutations thereof as
the guys get you ready for Week one in Earnest

Wherever you're getting after it on a Sunday to and
from services, walking the dog, getting a little stroll yourself,
maybe a little cardio in. Maybe you're at the store,
getting ready for whatever your home tail gate becomes and gatherings.
(02:34:48):
We appreciate you making us part of your Sunday morning.
It's something we take lightly at all, and likewise, well,
nobody takes the fortunes of the Dallas Cowboys lightly. A
of weight, a lot of pressure. Once again, Jerry Jones
made the deal to bring in Trey Lance. Yeah, it
may not be for today, but it certainly gets some
tongues wagging and people with their eyebrows raised. Dak Prescott
(02:35:11):
struggling last year. The turnovers piled up for certain and
right off the jump, you're on the road in a
big Sunday night battle. What he expected from this Dallas
offense and what does Mike McCarthy do differently. Now that
Kellen Moore's.
Speaker 3 (02:35:26):
Moved on, offense would be more balanced, it'd be more
run centric than it has been in the past. Dak Prescott
would have more ownership on it, meaning they will have
check with me plays at the line of scrimmage where
he can have a run play call he doesn't like
the look, checks out of it, they go to a pass.
They may give him two or three options in the
huddle where he can come out see the front assessed coverage.
Speaker 4 (02:35:47):
Hey, get the team in the right play. This is
a chance for the Cowboys to go from good to great.
Speaker 3 (02:35:53):
The reason why they can go good the great is
because now players have more ownership on what's going on.
Dak Prescott's talked about having more command, more control that
the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (02:36:01):
What that empowers him?
Speaker 3 (02:36:02):
Okay, Dak, you want more empowerment now to get us
to the next level.
Speaker 4 (02:36:07):
Defensively, Dan Quinn in his third year.
Speaker 3 (02:36:09):
Michael Parsons knows everything that he wants the young guy
to do, so I expect Michael Parsons to play at
the defensive player of the year level. This team is
now a never Either they're going to do it this
year or they'll never do it with this current iteration.
So Dak Prescott understands that there's a lot of money
on the line for him. He's eligible for an extension.
They got to make an extension happen soon. If I'm
(02:36:30):
going to pay Dak Prescott, think about this fifty five
million dollars. I got to see this team get to
the championship and beyond. That's the only way I can
write that check. Otherwise, I got to look for a
cheaper option and rebuild this team with a different quarterback
in mind.
Speaker 5 (02:36:44):
Well, and that's where I look to it. Through the
first couple of weeks of this collegiate season, Bucky is
while they may not grde out his first first round picks,
when it's all said and done, first couple of weeks,
you got an awful lot of guys at least raising
their hands saying they want a bit of the conversation
in September right in terms of some of the gaudy
(02:37:05):
numbers we've seen throughout the college game. I'll ask you
this though, I what I said about Madison, I wonder
if the same isn't true about Tony Pollard in terms
of his physicality and where he's at in terms of
what an over under his game to game on his
production before you have diminishing returns. And I know Deuce
Vaughan was a great story in the preseason. Are you
(02:37:26):
surprised they didn't fortify that position in the offseason. I
really thought you'd either see Zeke back or somebody else
to help in that running back room.
Speaker 4 (02:37:36):
Don't discount it.
Speaker 3 (02:37:37):
A lot of times you may want to wait to
after week one. So if you sign, you sign a
veteran after week one, now you don't have to fully
guarantee there a contract for the season. So you may
see a lot of movement come Tuesday where guys are
signed because now they're not kind of locked into the deal.
So you may see Kareem Hunt come off the board.
You may see some of these other running backs that
(02:37:57):
are just kind of laying languishing out there, you may
see them quickly get snapped up because now I'm not
obligated to keep you on my team the entire year.
Speaker 5 (02:38:06):
He's Bucky Brooks out by Carmon here Fox Football Sunday.
Fox Sports Radio did a little bit of it last
hour on the game side of things. Is there a
player that intrigues you most of what's coming to bear?
I mean, obviously you got Anthony Richardson in the game,
You're going to be a part of their Jacksonville and Indianapolis.
But outside of Richardson and the wildcard aspect there with
(02:38:27):
a very short receiver room and an unknown at the
running back position, how many more question marks can I
throw on it? It's like the Riddler run around with
question marks on a suit going on there as we go.
Is there a player that intrigues you? You know that
you're just really excited new destination or situation or just
coming off the board that really has your attention?
Speaker 3 (02:38:49):
B John Robinson, the Atlanta Falcon has heard so much
about him. I've even made a comparison to Hall of
Famer Ladenian Thomlinson in terms of what heat offers as
a run pass, run past, catch, playmaker.
Speaker 4 (02:39:02):
This is a guy who is special.
Speaker 3 (02:39:04):
I want to see if he shows off some of
the fish skills. I also want to see how Arthur
Smith utilizes him in that offense.
Speaker 4 (02:39:09):
It'll be key.
