Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Ah Yes, living the dream once again here on a
fully loaded NFL Sunday.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We are broadcasting live from the ti Raq dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Ty rack dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We're gonna help get you there on that match selection
fast reshipping free road has a protection over ten thousand
recommending installers. Tire rack dot com the way tire bites
should be. Seven games about to kick off. Commanders at
the Falcons, Vikings at the Bears, Seahawks at the Bengals,
forty nine Ers at the Browns, Panthers at the Dolphins,
(00:37):
Colts at the Jaguars, Saints at the Texans. One game
in the box already, Ravens taking care of the Titans
by a score of twenty four to sixteen. Ritchie, coming
back from a round trip to Hawaii where the San
Diego State Aztecs finally got off the schneid and won
a game yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
How are you feeling after that quick round trip to
the island.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Obviously, going out to the Hawaiian Islands to call a
football game and be a part of the broadcast is
always fun and like you said, San Diego State brings
home the win. Seventy five points scored in the game.
Last nice an absolute barn burner, a shootout in Oahu,
And yeah, that was that was a blast. And that's
really it's a microcosm of what's happening across the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
You know, people people.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Enjoy watching games that are high scoring affairs, and these
offenses now are high octane.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
And that's the expectation.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
It is now the expectation to throw the ball a ton,
to score a bunch of points, and to have everybody's
fantasy football you know apps dinging and ringing all day long.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, which brings to mind what happened on Thursday with
the Chiefs eking out a nineteen to eight win against
the hapless Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Let me get this straight.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
The Broncos gave up ten touchdowns to Miami, They gave
up three touchdown in one quarter to the lowly Chicago Bears,
and the Chiefs got one touchdown.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah in that game. I mean, if.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
People are ignoring the fact that the Chiefs aren't quite right,
doesn't mean they can't get there. But last year, by
this time we could see the Chiefs without Tyreek Hill
beginning to get things together one touchdown again. It's not
just a bad defense, the worst defense in the league,
historically bad defense.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Chiefs are looking for some answers.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Chiefs are absolutely looking for answers. And we were just
talking about expectations, and no two teams have higher expectations
this season to start with than the Chiefs and the
Philadelphia Eagles, and both teams have lurched out the gate
this season, slow starts, both offensively, and it's taken a
little while for them to return to former look like
(02:53):
they did when they were both appearing in the Super
Bowl last year. So it's interesting. One team in the Eagles, undefeated,
the other team in the Chiefs, one loss on their
resume and was the NFL opener without two of their
best players, Chris Jones and Travis Kelce. So you look
at the wins and lost column, Steve, you can't turn
(03:14):
your nose up at results.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
But I do understand what you mean.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
They haven't looked quite right either of those two teams.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Now one team that is on fire right now and
have just separated themselves in the pack as the San
Francisco forty nine ers at least thirty points in every game.
They completely demolished the Cowboys last week. Now they're on
the road against the Browns. Forty nine Ers have the
ball first, and the big story there again has been
brock Party. Leads the NFL and passer rating by a lot,
(03:42):
and he seems to be getting better with every single game.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
We've talked about this.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
You and I have been in the rock Party corner
the entire way. I'm starting to hear like the Brian
Knows and the Jeff Schwartzes and some of the doubters,
you know, come aboard now and realize that this is
not some fluke. This is the real deal. The guy
is an accurate passer. He can pass under pressure, he
(04:09):
can recognize instantly where he needs to throw the football. Yes,
the forty nine ers have immense talent at the skill positions.
He's got a plethora of riches. But you got to
get the ball in the hands of the guys in
the right place. And that's why the forty nine ers
offense is unstoppable right now.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Yeah, it's so funny when you search brock Perty's name.
The two most recent news were they analyst discussions about
him were Rob Gronkowski saying that the forty nine ers
struck gold with Rock Party and Shannon Sharp saying that
he's not elite.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Right.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
And now what's interesting about this is think about the
two perspectives they're coming from. Both of them hall of
fame tight ends, Robin Waite, Shannon Sharp in actuality, both
of them played with Hall of Fame quarterbacks John Elway
for Shannon Sharp, Tom Brady for Rob Gronkowski. Rob Gronkowski
is gonna have an easier time spotting the hidden gem
(05:12):
of the draft like a Tom Brady and Brock Purdy
than Shannon Sharp will because who was throwing passes to him?
An elite quarterback out of college football who was a
first round draft pick and forced his way to the
Denver Broncos and won a Super Bowl with them, and
the rest is history.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
So it's difficult even if.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You are and I believe Shannon Sharp to be a
talented analyst and he has strong opinions, certainly, but even
if you are a great football player and you've been
watching football for a long time, it's tough to hop
on the bandwagon sometimes when it feels too early. And
I understand how that felt, because last year I said, hey,
let's pump the brakes.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
We're watching this guy fill in.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Let's wait to see when he's an actual starting quarterback
and all the pressure is on him. This is in
a situation where he's just picking up the pieces after
two quarterbacks got hurt and shut down for the year.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Let's see what he looks like next season. Well, guess what.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
It's next season, and he still looks great. Brock Purdy
is a franchise quarterback and he is a leite to me.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
He's like Kurt Warner, you know, the guy came out
of nowhere and they're like, oh, he's throwing the ball
and Tory hold In, Isaac Bruce and he's got Marshall
Falk and he's got all this talent around him.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
He's not a lite.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
And then of course he got hurt, and then you know,
he sort of faded from view and everyone said, you see,
it was just because you know, greatest show on turf
with the Rams and everything else. And then he re
emerges in Arizona and leads the Cardinals to a near
Super Bowl win.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Kurt Warner belonged in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
He got in the Hall of Fame if Brock Purty
continues on this trajectory, which by the way, includes zero
losses on his resume in the regular season. Believe me,
he could have a similar course. And by the way,
the forty nine ers are in their opening drive, are
already down to the Cleveland fourteen yard line. Apparently there
were some fistic cops going on on the sidelines of
(06:56):
this game even before they started. By the way, the
forty nine ers are doing it right now on the ground,
they have four carries for forty one yards. Rock Purty
hasn't even thrown a pass where we have a twenty
seven yard run by Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
So the forty nine.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Ers knocking on the door early in this unstubbleed I
mean again, when we look at power rankings currently in
the NFL, there is the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
And everyone else. Yeah, I mean, they are.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Three steps ahead of any team at this point of
the season.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I completely agree with you. They are absolutely romping the
field right now. And Christian McCaffrey is a big part
of the reason why you don't have to rely on
this talented passing game. Oh, they're in the end zone,
Jal passing touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Christian McCaffrey speak of the devil.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Thirteen yard pass, yeah from Rock Party, and the Niners
get on the board first in Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
So his first pass of the game is a thirteen
yard touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey. Right now, those are
your two leaders in the MVP chase right now. Meanwhile,
we got the Dolphins and the Panthers. The Panthers the
only winless team in the NFL. And before you get
too excited Panther fans about the possibility of the first
(08:08):
overall pick, he traded it already. It belongs to the
Chicago Bears. And when you look at Bryce Young and
his start of the season on a team that's not
very good. Meanwhile, the Texans are hosting the Saints, and
you got CJ. Stroud one hundred and eighty six passes
to start his NFL career without an interception.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
He is lapping the field right now.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Unfortunately, Anthony Richardson, who's played well, is hurt. C J.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Stroud is just trying to find his way.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
But c J.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Stroud, Bryce c J. Strout has been unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I mean, he's already doing things that no first year
quarterback has ever done before.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, that's correct, Steve.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
When you look back and you think about this NFL
draft and you think about the guys who were or
i should say the guy who is selected ahead of him,
it's gonna be that should could have would a thing
that that happens for so many teams when there's a
couple of highly talented college football quarterbacks taking off the board,
and Carolina may be doing this for the next half decade,
(09:11):
the next decade because something special is blossoming in Houston.
Nobody expected any of these players to be any good,
or I should say, excuse me, nobody expected to be
any of the Houston Texans players to be any good
this season, and CJ. Stroud is slowly making stars out
of them. What we're seeing out of the backfield, what
we're seeing with Nico Collins and Tank Dell. He's banged up,
(09:33):
but it's it's been a pleasant surprise from the AFC South.
We did not see them as being even particularly competitive
at all, and he's elevated the franchise.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
The Bengals are in trouble. The Bengals going into the
game today home game against the Seahawks. Seahawks on their
opening drive, Gino Smith five for five to fifty one yards.
They have a second of goal at the three yard line.
It's a bye week for the Bengals after this week,
and they're at the forty nine ers Bills at home
the two games after that. Bengals have to win today
(10:05):
if they go to two and four with those two
games looming after their bye week.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
A season that most.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
People predicted, including yours truly, you know, would be the
next step for the Bengals, who obviously have been in
the mix the last couple of years getting into the
super Bowl. By the way, Seahawks just get on in
a Kenneth Walker one yard touchdown run. So the Seahawks
opening drive, they motor right down the field against this
Bengals team.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
But the Bengals lose today and.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Go to two and four and come back at San
Francisco after the bye Bills at home. This is a
season where the Bengals could go down as the biggest
bust team in the NFL based on preseason predictions.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
When you have a team that's hovering year five hundred,
losses and wins are so crucial, especially at this point
in the season. Like just think about what you said.
Two and four sounds so much worse than three and three.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Oh, three and three.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
It feels like, well, the whole, the whole, the whole
leagu's in front of you.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Your whole season is still it's still waiting to be had.
Three and three.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I mean, that's a even if it feels like, oh boy,
it took us a lot of effort even to get
to three and three, you can almost wipe the slate
clean and say, well, we'll just win the majority of
our games moving forward and we'll still be a playoff
team and even contend for our division. But holy smokes,
two and four. It almost feels insurmountable when you drop
(11:26):
to a two and four record. So we'll see what
happens here against the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
BA.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
As you mentioned, Gino Smith looking good so far today
and they are on the board first with Kenneth Walker
getting in in the low red zone.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
All right, so seven ehe Seahawks over the Bengals, forty
nine ers, seven nothing over the Browns. The Commanders have
gotten a field goal on their opening drive on the
road against the Atlanta Falcons. All right, we have everything
covered for you, as we do every single Sunday, Fox
Sports Red Zone Radio. On the other side, we're gonna
do a little preview time. We're gonna check in on
(11:57):
the game between the Eagles and the Jets with former
Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Speaker 3 (12:03):

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Forty nine ers have run the ball every player who
opened the game thirty now under center on second and
ten first pass play action.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Shovel forward to McCaffrey. Good block by Brendo McCaffrey.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
Five touchdown. Cee m ce.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Fifteen consecutive games with a touchdown for McCaffrey. That's KMBR
forty nine Ers Radio Network. Yeah, the forty nine Ers
jumping on the Browns early with the seven nothing lead.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We are live
from the Tyraq dot com studios. By the way, how
about the Carolina Panthers, the windless Panthers opening drive, rich
(13:31):
they went right down the field and got a touchdown
Chewba Hubber gets it into the end zone. So the
Panthers winless going against the four and one Dolphins, taken
early seven to nothing lead. Also, the Colt Scott a
field goal on their opening drive against the Jags in Jacksonville.
Gardner Minshew course in for Anthony Richardson and the Vikings. Wow, wow,
(13:54):
what do you make of all this Vikings talk that
Kirk Cousins is on the trading block Now we're member
he's got a no trade clause, so this will be interesting. Well,
we'll talk about that in a moment because we got
to get ready for a little preview of this Eagles
Jets game.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
It's time for the NFL on focks focus.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
What it is right now is a guy that is
the answer to this question. Name a time when the
Jets had a really good defense, a solid running game,
and a young quarterback and we're actually winners. Oh, oh, winners, winners.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
It was when I was with the New England Patriots
and Mark Sanchez and the gang were absolutely ringing us up.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Yeah that sucked.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, that was a team that got to back to
back AFC Championship games, won four road playoff games, and
a two year span with this man at quarterback the
rate Mark Sanchez, Mark, how are you today?
Speaker 8 (14:57):
If I'm doing excellent? Guys, just got in the booth
here and getting excited about this game. That's a heck
of an intro. Thank you guys so much.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
All Right, well, Mark, you and I have a long
history together.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
But let me let me ask you this, Mark, What
I mean if you were to sort of lay down
what worked for you guys back at nine and twenty
ten with a young quarterback, a solid running game, outstanding defense.
The Jets have a very similar situation right now with
Zach Wilson. Why did it work then? Why isn't it
(15:28):
working now?
Speaker 8 (15:30):
Well, I mean there are some parallels, but you know,
each of these teams are quite different. I think some
of the things that just looking forward to this game,
what really kind of worked for us and what could
work for these guys is just getting a little better
in the red zone. And I mean punctuating the end
of these drives and getting in the red zone is
finishing right, putting an exclamation point on a drive, not
(15:52):
leaving a lipses out there, you know what I'm saying, like,
not leaving any question on how this drive is going
to end. And last week, the week before, the just
settled for a lot of field goals and that's where
they kind of take their next step. And some of
that is just simplifying the reads for Zach Wilson, getting
him to go one through five and at any point
during that one through five progression of receivers and running backs,
(16:13):
if he wants to tuck it and go go for
it man and let him play a little free down
there without making any you know, critical mistakes. So I
think they're ready to take that next step. It is
predicated on that run game, and they can't hurt themselves
with penalties in the red zone. Those are just a
cardinal sin and those have hurt the Jets these last
couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Mark you played quarterbacks well for a long time collegiately
in the NFL. You know, it's easy for everybody to
be the armchair quarterback and say exactly what's wrong with
the guy who gets the football in his hand on
every play?
Speaker 1 (16:44):
But through your analytical.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I why has it been a little bit of a
slow start for Jalen Hurts in this Philadelphia offense?
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Well?
Speaker 8 (16:52):
I think some of it too. It's interesting watching their
tape has been a little bit of red zone struggles
as well, and some of those are you know, when
the running back gets hit in the backfield before he
even gets to the line of scrimmage is an issue.
I think when they operate at their best, they operate
with a little more tempo. And that doesn't mean hurry
up and be reckless, but it also doesn't mean having
two or three checks at the line of scrimmage. This
(17:13):
is more of like a post snap kind of reactive
team that's so athletic. They just overwhelm you with their speed, physicality, athleticism.
So let's not overthink it, you know, and let get
Jalen on the move, use your run game to start everything.
That's where everything's going to start. But then the quarterback
(17:34):
run game, and then the nakeds, the boots, all that
kind of stuff. They're still alive down there in the
red zone. So this team needs to pick it up
down there as well. I think that's been part of it.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Let's get back to the Jets for a moment here
again with a young quarterback, you know, trying to find
his way. This team really has to lean on their
running game. It's shown Spurts obviously, Brice Hall coming off
a big game against the Broncos. But how can they
get more out of that running game right now? Mark,
(18:03):
because it just seems like that is going to be
such a key moving forward for this offense.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Well, I think part of it too is you can't
be chasing points and then worried about calling runs. You
know what I mean, when you get down fourteen seventeen.
You know, when you're down seventeen to nothing against the Chiefs,
the first answer is, and oh man, let's get back
in this game. Let's just start handing the ball off. Well,
you don't have time, you know. So they've been on
the opposite end of where you want to be. You
(18:29):
want to dominate the game early. You got to get
a couple stops early, and that's been part of the
reason for the jets slow start. The defense has been
a little slow. They're giving up touchdowns on those early
drives and then they make some real adjustments and shut
teams down. But while that is going on, the offense
has to keep pace or outpace the other offense. That
means the Jets today are going to have to outpace
(18:51):
Phillies offense and start from a position of power, you
know what I mean, a really good leverage position, get
a ten point cushion, and then you can run the
ball a little bit more, because once you get down
and you start chasing points, you can see Zach Wilson
drop back fifty times and that's not the recipe for
success for this team.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Joined by Mark Sanchez here on Fox Sports Radio Red
Zone Radio ahead of this Jets Eagles game. Later on Fox,
Mark will be on the call. So you played with
great running backs during your time with the Jets, Ladanian, Tomlinson,
Sean Green even during his time there had a couple
of thousand yard rushing years. How does that change what
a defense has to do in approach When you have
(19:32):
a running back that you know can tote the rock.
Because Breese Hall is turning into that at the league level,
We're still waiting to see him explode and be the
you know, I mean, I don't know if he'll ever
be a Derek Henry, but that style of back that
you can lean on week in week out. What does
that do though to a defense? How does that stress
a defense when you have a player like that, Well.
Speaker 8 (19:54):
It starts with the guys up front, and they would
service these running backs because it was the Thomas Jones
and Sean Greens, the La Damien Thomlinson's. I mean, those
are the type of players that were behind that offensive line.
But let's not forget those are five blocks that granted
up front, and those guys could run, block and pass
block with the best of them in the league. At
one point, we had you know, Fanica, Nick Mangold, Brandon Moore,
(20:18):
du Brickishaw, Ferguson, we had Damian Woodie. We had Wayne Hunter,
who was an excellent swing tackle, and I mean we
had guys that were road graders. They looked more like
the Philly offensive line currently, you know what I mean.
They're big, they're tough, they're physical, and they own the
leverage at the line of scrimmage. That's an attitude. That's
a personnel thing. That's a Bill Callahan thing, our offensive
(20:40):
line coach back in the day. So that's where it starts.
And I think after that, once you've built that mentality
of oh hey, we're ground and pound, then the coach
starts to repeat it. Then it becomes part of your
DNA and that's who you become. And that's really what
we were. So our play action game are naked game,
which I love, like those are some of my favorite things.
Getting out on the it's rolling out of the pocket
(21:01):
and finding Dustin Keller, Jerichocotrie, Braylen Edwards, Antonio Holmes, all
these guys downfield. Because we showed him run, everybody believed
it's run because that's what we're really good at. And
the change up throws really caught defenses off guard. So
it has to start with the commitment to the run.
And once again, if you're going to run it, you
better not be chasing points. It just gets too hard
in this league. And also that was a few years ago.
(21:22):
You know, this is a pass happy league right now
because people who want to get their points in their yards.
So the game is definitely changing.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
You know, there's been so much focus on running backs
and their actual value to teams, and there's the Eagles
picking up DeAndre Swift for a fourth round pick. The
guy's averaging five point seven yards of care he's fourth
in the league and rushing right now. When we talk
about the modern game and all the emphasis on the
passing game, where do you see mark right now? The
role of the running back and what kind of actual
(21:52):
value they have in these offenses.
Speaker 8 (21:54):
Well, they're critically, they're critical to these offenses. Their value
isleted in their contracts necessarily, but it's because, excuse me,
a lot of these guys have come out of nowhere
and made a name for themselves or have struggled in
one place and then found their shride. Maybe like DeAndre
Soift couldn't stay healthy in Detroit, but Boom finds his
(22:15):
place here in Philly. Behind once again, what do we
just mention an elite physical offensive line that can run,
block and pass block. So he's got opportunities in the
run game. He's also got opportunities in the past game
because they're given jailing her so much time back there
to get to his checkdown. You know, Zack Wilson not
quite as much time as Jaling Hurs back there. It's
(22:37):
hard to get all the way down to Michael Carter
and to Breeese Hall and stuff like that. But now
these running backs, I mean, the days of just being
the big bruiser running backer are dwindling, you know, their
numbered days, because now everybody can catch out of the backfield.
Everybody has a couple plays designed where they're number one
in the progression from the running back position, or they
can split out and catch a slam. And these guys
(22:57):
are dynamic. That's why these offenses look so fun.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
The only man to lead the Jets to back to
back conference championship games only one.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Foret Joe Namy.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
I want to hear that in the broadcast today. I'm
gonna yell at as loud as I possibly.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Can introduce yourself that way.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
You know we're always on your side. Mark, Mark love you,
Thanks so much. We'll talk to you down the road.
Thanks a lot.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 8 (23:25):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Mark Sanchez joining us. There interesting matchup Eagles Jets. Jets
have the defense. If they can just get some decent
play out of Zach Wilson, they can have a chance
to keep that game close. All right, let's find out
what is trending right now. And Monsey has been all
over the place today. So how's the traffic got?
Speaker 9 (23:44):
Yeah? No, that was really really rough, guys. I was
forty minutes late because I.
Speaker 10 (23:49):
Didn't move on the freeway for thirty minutes.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Now, what happened?
Speaker 10 (23:52):
I actually four car accident and it's Sunday, you know.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
You know, it's Sunday, going fast, there's no weather problems,
full day.
Speaker 10 (24:01):
Typically takes me ten minutes to get here on a Sunday.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Unfortunate.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
It's usually people that if we're out too late on
a Saturday, getting up way too early in a Sunday,
getting behind the wheel.
Speaker 9 (24:10):
I will say that it seemed to like it was
somebody was speeding.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
And that's somebody because it was a fast like a
sports car.
Speaker 9 (24:15):
Yeah, completely totaled from the front to the back. Four
cars involved, and I was trying to get off the
freeway but I couldn't move and it wouldn't matter because
one of the cars was blocking the exit.
Speaker 10 (24:26):
Ye and I text Isaac early. I was like Isaac, this.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Is not good, and was all dressed up today.
Speaker 10 (24:35):
It's other job. But I was like, Isaac, I'm not
I'm not going to be there. There's seven fire trucks that.
Speaker 9 (24:40):
Are coming by right now, and I could just walk
to work right now and get there faster. So luckily
it wasn't me. So that's what I am, you know,
looking at it that way.
Speaker 10 (24:50):
But it was nuts.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
It was nuts, and I'm here now, only seven games.
Speaker 10 (24:53):
So we're good, guys, We're good.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
You know.
Speaker 9 (24:56):
I'm excited, just like Falcon fans should be because tight
end Kyle Pitt's got his touchdown of the season.
Speaker 10 (25:01):
So there we go. Falcons up on the Commander seven
to three. They're about to end the first quarter.
Speaker 9 (25:06):
Vikings and Bears are about to start the second quarter
with Minnesota up three zero, but the Bears are in
the red zone first and goals, so we'll see how
they start that second quarter. The Bengals and the Seahawks
are now tied at seven.
Speaker 10 (25:18):
They're ending the first quarter.
Speaker 9 (25:19):
Joe Burrow findes Tyler Boyd in the end zone to
tie the game, and of course Christian McCaffrey fifteen straight
games with a touchdown. They're beating the Browns seven zero,
less than four minutes to go in the first quarter.
Looks like the Panthers have added another touchdown, yes to
Adam Fielen, who I have on my fantasy So they
are fourteen zero against the Dolphins. And good news for
(25:41):
Dolphins fans though, because it was reported earlier today that
Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey is far ahead of schedule
in his recovery from his knee surgery, so he could
return to the.
Speaker 10 (25:51):
Dolphins practice as early as this week. Nuts. The Jaguars
are up on the Colts seven to three.
Speaker 9 (25:57):
They just got going in the second quarter, and the
Texan are beating the Saint seven zero. C J.
Speaker 10 (26:02):
Stroud finding Dalton Schultz in the end zone.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
But c J.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
Stroud's crazy streak of one hundred and ninety one passes
without an interception has come to an end.
Speaker 10 (26:12):
He has thrown an interception to start his career. It
was the longest.
Speaker 9 (26:15):
Streak though in NFL history, one hundred and ninety one
passes without an interception.
Speaker 10 (26:21):
So it's over. He threw one.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
It's not perfect, not perfect, not perfect, but still Texans
with the lead early in that game against the Saints.
Speaker 10 (26:29):
Yes, so I'm good, guys.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Sorry, Welcome back from Hawaii.
Speaker 10 (26:33):
Rich, Yeah, did you bring me a Tigi drink?
Speaker 1 (26:35):
I did? Okay, good, the ice has.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Melted, but it's fine. I ate the Cherriot and orange garnish.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Oh good, good, you're.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Going it for you.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
It was a little lot to ask him to, you know,
do the round trip from Hawaii, get in.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Late a truck all the way to LA from San Diego.
Speaker 10 (26:54):
Right right, right, No, we get it, we get it.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
I'm amazed he's even awake yet.
Speaker 10 (26:58):
Yeah, no, for real, I don't fine, I'm surprised you're here.
I'm giving you credit.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Really, all right, Motzie. We'll check in with you a
little bit later on. And once again we're brought to
you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable.

Steve Hartman, Rich Ornberger with you. How about these Panthers
fourteen nothing Panthers on the road against the Dolphins to
open up that game again, the Panthers the only winless team.
(27:32):
Bryce Young is six of seven eighty two yards and
a score two is four for four for forty two yards.
But they don't have a single yard rushing yet the
Miami Dolphins. So it's been the Carolina defense. And the
one thing that's impressed me about Bryce Young, even though
they haven't won a game, and even though he hasn't
lit up the place, even in games where they've been
(27:53):
down big, he doesn't seem to be deterred. In other words,
you can still see an eeric kampf. He's not you know,
you know, head down or anything like that. There's a
lot of frustrations obviously for a young quarterback, especially if your.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Team's not winning the year the number one overall pick.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
But I that's the one thing I always liked about
Bryce Young. He has a lot of self confidence. He
believes that he has the ability to do whatever he
needs to get done on a field to win a game.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
And I think he understands there's a process.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Yeah, when you look at Hall of Fame quarterbacks, whether
it's John Elway disastrous rookie season, Troy Aikman didn't win
a game his rookie season, he knows it's a process.
He's got faith in Frank Reich and what they're doing
in Carolina and you.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Just feel like they were due for a breakout game.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
I don't know ultimately if this is going to be
that game, but fourteen I think first quarter is certainly
a step in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Oh absolutely.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
And I think you're I think you're also onto something
with Bryce Young. I think that was part of the
evaluation process. Obviously a super intelligent person and a great speaker.
You know, you could see that during the pre draft
process with the testing he did. He was off the
charts in terms of the wonder lick. But it was
(29:11):
beyond that because you heard reports, glowing reports from team
personnel decision makers that were blown away by what he
knew and his knowledge of the game of football. But
obviously that doesn't apply to the league level unless you
can play at the speed of league level, and so
far he's not ready to play in this league. But
(29:34):
it is a process, and if a guy is saying
and doing the right things, he's practicing hard, like you said, undeterred,
and he's saying all the right things, it's a huge
step in the right direction and a vote of confidence
for the organization. Just think about this time last year
where we were with Zach Wilson and the concern that
many Jets fans had because he was losing games in
(29:55):
historic fashion and he wasn't shouldering any of the responsibility.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
It shows maturity.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
It shows a level of cockiness or arrogance that you
can't have your starting quarterback playing with You need a
guy who's able to handle the spotlight, and so far
that's been Bryce Young. We'll see if the play catches up,
but the maturity is there.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Things happen quick in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
So after an opening drive for the Colts result in
the field goal, Jacksonville went right down the field, gets
a touchdown, Travis Etn. Colts get the ball back. First
play sack fumble by Gardner Minshew. Next play, twenty two
yard touchdown by Etn, and just like that, in a
matter of seconds, the Jags go from down three to
nothing to up fourteen to three. So Travis Etn at
(30:39):
ten as I like to say, because that's the French
pronunciation of my name, Stephen in the French. So they're
up fourteen to three right now. Meanwhile, the Saints have
just gotten on the board. Shaheed thirty four yard touchdown
reception from Derek Carr waiting on the extra point there,
so they're an extra point of waved and the extra
(31:00):
point is good. So Texans and Saints are now tied
at seven, and the Bengals, having tied this game against
the Seahawks, now have a first in goal at the
Seahawks ten yard line. Joe Burrow, who was struggled with
that calf injury, he's beginning to show signs. He's eleven
(31:20):
to thirteen in this game, one hundred and twelve yards.
He keeps telling everyone this is the best he has
felt all year long.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
So we talked about this earlier.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Rich a must win for the Bengals today going into
their bye week, trying to get back to the five
hundred level, because on the other side of the bye
at San Francisco, Bills at home. So the Bengals tied
at seven, trying to get on the board and take
the lead.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
And you look at the connections he's had so far,
obviously through it to Tyler Boyd for the touchdown, but
Chase involved in the passing game, Joe Mixon involved in
the passing game. Te Higgins has a reception. Two other receivers,
Trevion Williams and Earthsmith Junior both with the hatch a piece.
He's spreading the ball round. He's throwing the ball deep.
That Jamar Chase touchdown last week sixty three yards. Most
(32:09):
of the work was done in the air. He couldn't
do that to start the season because of the lingering
calf injury from the preseason. Joe Burrow's heating up at
the perfect time for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
All right, let's talk about the Bears for a second.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Here.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
They tied up this game of the Vikings on a
field goal. Justin Fields has looked really good the last
couple of weeks. Struggling today, he is three of five
for ten yards. He's also been sacked three times. They
have negative three net yards passing the good news or
the Bears are running the ball well, they have eighty
one yards on the ground. You know, again, when we
(32:43):
look at the Bears, if they were to have the
number one overall pick in the draft, which would belong
to the Carolina Panthers or their own pick, are you
gonna stay with Fields? I mean, if I were the
Bears with the number one overall pick, here's how I
would start the bidding.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
I'd say, all right, three number ones minimum.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Don't even call us unless you're willing to part with
at least three number one packs picks with the possibility
of getting a talent like Caleb Williams. Or if you're
the Bears, do you stay Yeah, we're good with fields,
We're moving on. How much more do we have to
see out of Justin Fields for them to be convinced?
Are you to be convinced Rich that he is the
(33:24):
long term answer for them at quarterback?
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Well, here's the problem. They're missing his window. They're missing
his window. This team isn't ready to win. And do
we really think that Matt Eberflus is going to be
the head coach of the future in Chicago Because I don't.
I think that he was a placeholder when he was
hired and they were hoping that if he had a
little bit of success, maybe he could sustain it. But
(33:48):
I don't really see this whole picture being the future
for the Bears. So I think that he's going to
be available for trade this season, especially if their season
continues to spiral, and I think they're going to start
from scratch. You look around college football right now, there
are a lot of future professional quarterbacks playing. What can
(34:09):
be ultimately their final season in college football. They have
to make a decision here pretty soon on what their
future is going to look like in Chicago and start
making steps towards having that future work out for them,
whether it means trading away Justin fields if you can,
before the deadline, or trading wing some of the parts
around Justin fields before the deadline, and then making a
(34:32):
decision on him this offseason if there is value to
get to be gotten for him. But yeah, the most
important thing in my mind is keeping him as healthy
as possible so he does have value at some point
before the deadline or this offseason.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
All right, rangals another touchdown passer Joe Burrows, giving them
a fourteen to seven lead over the Seahawks. We got
a lot of scoring going on seven games around the NFL.
For all the latest scores, all the latest stats, keep
it right here. This is Fox Sports Red So Radio.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
Long for the shotgun surveys the field Miatti Propra Bower crows.
Speaker 11 (35:05):
To the episode caught by thelan touchdown Carolina with six
seconds to go in the first quarter, Young to feeling
the Panthers have their biggest lead of the season.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
That's ninety nine seven the Fox Panthers radio network, Bryce
Young to Adam Thielen right there, giving them a fourteen
to nothing lead. The Dolphins now have answered back on
a short touchdown pass from to a tongue of by
Loa to Raheem Moster, so fourteen to seven Panthers leading
the Dolphins eleven minutes to go in the first half. There,
(35:39):
Bryce Young six to seven eighty two yards and scored
to a tongue of by Low eight to nine eighty
yards in a score.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
So two young.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Quarterbacks looking pretty good to start off this game. We've
got a lot of scoring going on early on here.
The Commanders have retaken the lead ten to seven over
the Falcons on a Sam Howe touchdown pass to Antonio Gibson.
Desmond Ritter off to a good start for the Falcons
(36:06):
eight to twelve. He had a touchdown pass a little
earlier in the game to Kyle Pitts, the underused tight
end considering how high he was picked in the draft
by Atlanta. I gotta think that, like Desimon, riders got
to discover you've got a weapon like Kyle Pitts.
Speaker 7 (36:19):
Use him.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
It's not always the quarterback. Sometimes it's the route runner,
and there's some evidence that Kyle Pitts has a long
way to go in terms of catching up to the
physicality and the and the timing of the NFL. So
it's it's not necessarily a Desmond Ridder problem. That can
be a Kyle Pitts problem, especially when you look at
(36:42):
how advanced Bijon Robinson looks in the passing game, and
you look how good that some of these other receivers
around their roster have performed. It's really a question mark
on Pits and Drake London another example of a guy
who's had success with Desmond Ritter. So they got to
get him going at this level. Because when you spend
(37:04):
a first round draft selection on any player, it doesn't
matter if it's a quarterback, an edge rusher, a tight end.
The production needs to come.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
By the way, we are live from the tyraq dot
com studios the Cleveland Browns. We know the Browns have
a good defense and they're doing it to Rock Purty
right now. And of the first quarter rich Rock Purty
is two for four for five yards.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
He has a short touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey. Otherwise
two completions five yards one touchdown, no picks. Now, forty
nine ers do have fifty one yards on the ground,
But this is a Browns team, by the way, with
PJ Walker quarterback today, he's already thrown an interception in
this game. But that defense of the Browns could be
(37:50):
as good as tess as Purty's seen all season.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah. Absolutely, and list it doesn't matter how many passes
you throw, did you win the game, did you hurt
your team or did you help your team? I mean,
there have been so many games and this sounds ridiculous
in retrospect now, especially the way the league is where
Tom Brady threw for twenty four or fewer passing attempts
(38:13):
and the majority of those games were wins for the
New England Patriots. I don't believe he had a single
game where he threw for that few attempts in Tampa Bay.
They really relied on him for their entire offense records.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
His last two years for passing attempts.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
But Brock Perdy and Tom Brady, this comparison has been made,
and I think it's apt because Perdy finds himself joining
forces with an already elite offense, a terrific offensive line,
but he's a fast processor, so as long as he's
not making mistakes, he's playing mistake free football. He's being
a great distributor of the football and getting into the
(38:51):
hands of his playmakers. Who cares what his statline statline
looks like, as long as they get the w.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
The Viking's got a field goal, So retake the late
six to three over the Bear. We were talking about
this a little bit earlier, got interrupted when we talked
to Mark Sanchez. Kirk Cousins apparently is available for Trey,
but again, he has a no trade clause in his contract,
so he would have to green light it. Obviously, he
would only want to go to a team that's a
(39:17):
playoff contender. But if you're a playoff contending team, are
you interested in kirk Cousins, I.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Would say so. I would say so.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
And it depends on exactly where kirk Cousins is in
his mind in terms of what he wants his future
to look like. Right now, he's on a contract that
expires in twenty twenty five, So I don't think he's
going to go to a team like the New York Jets,
right I don't think he's going to go to a
(39:48):
team like necessarily the Indianapolis Colts, but there could be
a team that emerges who has either an injury at quarterback,
or a team that emerges who in trade talks, who's
looking for Kirk Cousins style player to either be a
bridge quarterback or an answer to a gaping hole on
their roster for the next couple of years while they
(40:09):
make future plans.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
He's getting older. Kirk Cousins is a.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Known Kwan commodity in the NFL, but he's not an
elite level quarterback. Somebody will have use for him.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Remember when we used to have all these miss extra
points the last few years. Yeah, nobody misses anymore. I
mean we, I mean we used to have this thing
every Sunday, like who's gonna miss the first extra point?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
All right?
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Coming up on the other side, we'll continue to update
you on seven games and preview other games coming up.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Hal goes under center, gives it to the back.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
It's actually off set with Robinson and gives in to
the backfield play action, throws to a.
Speaker 7 (40:44):
Wide up and gives in touchdown.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Touchdown Washington Antonio Gibson finally getting out there using the
game plan into the enzoe. Yes, sir, that's Big one
hundred Commanders or radio network. And the Commanders have scored
again on another Sam Howe touchdown pass. They lead the
Atlanta Falcons on the road by a score of seventeen
(41:10):
to seven. Sam Hall twelve is seventeen hundred nine yards
two touchdowns, second one to Curtis Samuel. Once again, this
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from the
tier raq dot com studios tyre raq dot com. We're
gonna help get you there an unmatched selection, fast reshipping
free road as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers
tyre rag dot com the way tire buying should be.
(41:33):
So have the Commanders found a franchise quarterback in Sam
how Well.
Speaker 4 (41:38):
I do think that he's playing over the expectations, and
I do think that Eric Penemy has proven himself as
a worthy commodity at offensive coordinator in this league. The
fact that the Commanders are staring down an opportunity to
have an even record on the year at three and
three if they beat the Falcons today on the road,
(42:00):
is an accomplishment.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Don't I don't.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
I don't think anybody had it on their Bingo card
that the Commanders would would be a five hundred team
at any point this season. But they're proving themselves to
be a tough out and they have a significant lead
right now in Atlanta as we're heading closer and closer
to halftime. So yeah, it's possible. He's got to finish
this season. Obviously, we've got a long way to go.
(42:24):
He's in his second year as an NFL quarterback, so
he's very cheap. You can build around a guy like
this for many years if he proves himself to be
the guy that remains to be seen.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
All Right, that early fourteen nothing lead for the Panthers
is about to completely evaporate. Dolphins score again, this time
on a to a pass to Jalen Wattle, short pass
four yards to a tongue of Bailo at nine to ten,
eighty four yards, two touchdowns, no picks, Bryce Young eight
of eleven hundred yards and a touchdown, so the extra
(42:57):
point is good. Carolina and Miami tied at fourteen. When
you look at power rankings right now, we talked earlier,
there's like the forty nine ers and everyone else where
are the Dolphins right now? I mean if you look
at the AFC power rankings, the Chiefs have underperformed. But
they're sitting at four and one right now, or are
(43:18):
they five to one four one?
Speaker 1 (43:21):
They're five and one, five.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
And one now after the win on Thursday, who's next
in terms of the AFC based on what you've seen
so far this season?
Speaker 4 (43:33):
Yeah, the Dolphins have to be the fact that their
offense can score with anyone and outscore most of the league.
It has to put them in the conversation. Now, your
results are obviously driven by a quarterback who's been fragile
in recent years, and so I think there's a lot
of hesitance for a lot of people to assume that
(43:56):
to a tongue of vlo is going to stay healthy
for an entire season, something that he's done rarely since
becoming a starter at the NFL level. But if he
can stay healthy, I don't see this offense slowing down.
Tua is in a system quarterback. He's a quarterback who's
built himself into a real pro I think he could
and would have success elsewhere, but he's paired up with
(44:19):
one of those young, genius offensive minds that everybody gets
excited about in Mike McDaniel and South Beach and they've
got him surrounded by tons of weapons now with Tyreek
Hill and Jayleen Waddle and Raheem Mosterd and Devon a Chain.
I know he's injured, but when he comes back from
the hamstring injury, they won't miss a beat. This is
(44:39):
a real, real problem in the AFC for all of
these other teams they share the conference with.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
So Jacksonville was in London for a couple of weeks,
took advantage of that getting to three and two on
the season, and there was some concerns about a little
jet lag, the reverse jet lag for Jacksonville having been
in London. But so far, today's so good for Jacksonville.
They got two touchdowns within twenty seconds, a couple of
(45:05):
short runs by Travis Hitty and actually the second one
was a twenty two yard touchdown run Trevor Lawrence seven
to ten, sixty six yards, no touchdowns, no picks. Gardner
Minshew thirteen of eighteen hundred and thirteen yards, no touchdowns,
no picks. Look, I love Gardner Minshew.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
I'm I love watching him out there.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
He's as good as any backup quarterback in this league.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
But I miss this Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
I mean, we've gotten so many glimpses early with Anthony
Richardson of what could happen. The question is he's got
to stay healthy, right And we've said this many, many
times about quarterbacks that run the ball, and that's part
of his game.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
You want to take advantage.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Of his out outworldly you know, athleticism, but not if
he's going to be hurt all the time.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
And he's had a.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
Couple of injuries already in this rookie season. What kind
of concerns and should the Colts make any adjustments to
try to keep their franchise quarterback healthy.
Speaker 4 (46:05):
They are concerned, I can promise you that. So what
kind of concerns? Many many concerns about him getting injured
as often as he has been.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
How can they change it? Can they gain plan it better? Yeah?
They absolutely could.
Speaker 4 (46:20):
You could have him, you know, running to the edges
of the offensive formation with some of these play calls
as opposed to between the tackles. You need to also
teach this man to slide. He does not He does
not give up on any play, and as a quarterback
in this league, you can't do that, especially when you're
as integral part of an offense. As Anthony Richardson is now.
(46:44):
In the three games Gardner Minshew appeared in, they've won
all three. He's getting the start today in Jacksonville. Never
an easy game to win in Jacksonville for whatever reason.
A lot of THEFC South struggles to win there. And
if the Jags win, they sweep the series against the
so they'll have the tiebreaker in the division. This is
a consequential game, and Gardner Minshew needs to help his
(47:07):
offense out, and this run game especially needs to help
this offense out. You look at Jonathan Taylor, who just
signed that monster deal. You know, he's struggling to get
it going and they're gonna have to rely on him
while Anthony Richardson's out.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
Here, here's this is the tough thing about fantasy football. Well,
there's a lot of tough things about it. Zack Moss
like one hundred and sixty five yards last week. Over
the last three games, he's been averaging over one hundred
and twenty yards rushing per game. So you're like, should
I pick up Zack Moss? How much are they gonna
use him? How much are they gonna use Jonathan Taylor? Well,
if you look at their numbers today, they've had better
(47:42):
numbers on the receiving end than rushing. Jonathan Taylor four
carries were only fifteen yards, but he had a forty
yard reception, so two catches forty one yards. Meanwhile, Zack
Moss has caught five passes for twenty two yards, rushing
the ball two carries zero yards. So ont of the
top running backs in the league. Yeah, and you're like,
(48:04):
I don't know how much do you they use Zach Moss? Well,
right now against this Jaguars team, they can't run the
ball at all. They have seventeen yards on the ground,
but they have one hundred and thirteen yards through the air.
Jaguars leading the Colts by a score of fourteen to three.
Speaker 3 (48:18):
So how do you look at that whole Zach Moss situation?
Speaker 2 (48:21):
Who's been so productive for the Colts in the absence
of Jonathan Taylor. Will it be running back come by
committee or because of the money they've given Jonathan Taylor?
Are they going to go back to him as the warhorse?
Speaker 1 (48:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (48:34):
I mean there's no question that's why you give a
player that kind of money. I mean that that is
an insane contract. For anybody in the NFL, So you're
going to try to get the most production you possibly
can out of him and Zach Moss. Right now, he's
playing on an expiring contract, so you're gonna try to
(48:55):
get as much out of him as he possibly can
before he moves on. This offseason, there's no question that
he's going to be searching for a big deal on
the other side of this, and he's proven himself a
worthy backup and potentially a starter somewhere else in the league.
So a little bit of a two headed monster approach
for now, while Jonathan Taylor catches up and starts playing
like his former self, and as soon as he gets
(49:17):
out there on the field and that tide changes and
he becomes a featured back again, we're gonna see less
of Zach Moss and a lot more of Jonathan Taylor.
Anthony Richardson though for this cult franchise, like all first
round talents, is going.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
To be crucial moving forward.
Speaker 4 (49:32):
We were just talking about to a tongue of I
low and in Miami. The only thing that you can
say about Miami that slows you down to jumping to
conclusions saying, well, of course they're the strongest team in
the AFC. It's because of Tua and his health issues.
So if Anthony Richardson can't stay healthy, it's going to
be a very very limited offense because Gardner Minshew, like
(49:54):
you said, is he a capable backup? Absolutely, but he's
a backup and he plays like one.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
A team that's healthy right now, that would be the
Houston Texans. Another touchdown pass CJ. Stroud to Robert Woods
is given the Texans a seventeen to seven lead over
the Saints. A win today and the Texans are a
five hundred team.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
CJ.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Stroud nine of sixteen, one hundred and thirty eight yards,
two touchdowns. He did throw his first interception of the year.
Set an NFL record one hundred and ninety one passes
before throwing his first interception in this league. So he
just continues to get better. Uh, Dmico Ryans. You know,
we talked about this a lot, like is this a
job you really want? I mean it has been a
(50:36):
one undone job, what three years in a row for
the Houston Texans. And here was a guy that a
lot of people had on the radar as a prime
head coaching prospect.
Speaker 3 (50:46):
He didn't have to take this job.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
I mean, he could have had other jobs that on
paper probably would have looked a little bit better, but
everyone insisted, wait till you see this guy once he
gets that opportunity. And what we're seeing right now now
is a complete change in attitude, much like the Campbell
situation to Detroit, when you bring in a coach that
(51:08):
is able to flip the switch on a certain attitude
for a team and then you grow from there.
Speaker 1 (51:14):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (51:15):
And if you look at the Texans schedule, it's not
like it's been a cakewalk. They played the Ravens on
the road, they played the Jaguars on the road, they
played the Steelers, They're facing the Saints now.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
It's not an easy schedule.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
And for them to be three and three on the
other side of these first six games is a monthumental
task to accomplish. You could very easily see them being
a one win or potentially a zero win football team
at this point in the season.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
But CJ.
Speaker 4 (51:43):
Stroud, like we discussed earlier, Steve is playing special football
and their defense is actually keeping them in games at times.
And that's a huge credit to Demico Ryans because part
of the reason why he was hired in Houston obviously
was because he's off of a very successful staff and
players love to play with him in the Bay Area
(52:03):
and play for him in the Bay Area. But you
have him come in and seeing the success that he's
having offensively with Bobby Slowick his oc who he stole
from San Francisco, who's working with the quarterbacks up there,
and what he's done with this defense, it's absolutely marvelous.
So yeah, I don't know where this season goes for
(52:24):
the Texans. Maybe they've overachieved some out the gates, maybe
the league catches up with CJ. Stroud a little bit here,
But the fact that they're looking at potentially being three
and three through this very hazardous front part of their schedule,
I'm impressed.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
I am really impressed with what they've done.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
By the way, the unstoppable forty nine Ers offense has
met their match today against this outstanding Cleveland Browns defense.
The forty nine Ers clinging to attend to seven lead
at Cleveland five and a half minutes ago in the
first half, Rock Party has just forty six yards passing
in this game. In fact, Cleveland has outgained the forty
(53:02):
nine Ers one sixty six to one twenty seven. So
we'll see how this game progresses. We continue on. We're
heading to halftime. Seven games right now going on around
the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 12 (53:17):
Four man front for the Colts. Trevor drops blocks, fires
deep doutfield. Got a man that's Christian Kirk holong on
that sideline touchdown Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence a Christian Kirk but
twenty nine yard touchdown.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Path that's FM ninety two to five Jaguars Radio Network.
Jags increase their lead twenty one to three over the
Colts inside a minute ago in the first half in
that game.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
We are live from the Tyraq dot Com studios. When
you have a weapon like Tyreek Kill, it's not a
question of if, but when. And it just happened to
a tongue of Ioloa Tod Tyreek Kill forty one yard touchdown.
So the Dolphins down early fourteen nothing to the Panthers
now have a twenty one to fourteen lead inside two
(54:09):
minutes ago in the first half in that game. And remember,
Tyreek Kill started the season by saying he wants to
be the first receiver ever to have a two thousand
yard receiving year. Calvin Johnson had over nineteen hundred yards
for the current record. Tyreek Hill is not just on
pace for two thousand yards, I mean twenty.
Speaker 3 (54:29):
One, twenty two hundred.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
At the rate he's going rich, he's gonna bliterate that
record for most receiving yards in a season.
Speaker 4 (54:37):
Yeah, and this time he just wins with flat out speed.
I shouldn't say this time. Many times he wins with
flat out speed. He's unguardable because he moves so quickly.
Even with a cushion that a lot of cornerbacks are
giving him, he can burn right by them. And the
reason is because on top of being so fast, he's
an insanely skillful route runner. He's so sudden out of
(55:01):
his breaks that even if you're giving him a ten
or fifteen yard cushion like some of these cornerbacks are
willing to give him, they're still making these breaks on
stops that he'll make as he's progressing upfield because they're
worried about getting beat inside. He is an insane talent
in this league, a first ballot Hall of Famer in wait,
(55:22):
and he still has a lot of career left ahead
of him.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
Based on the first five games of the season, he's
on pace for two two hundred and thirteen yards receiving
this year. Yep, all right, and he's already got seventy
nine in the first half of this game. Again, Miami
leads Carolina by a score of twenty one to fourteen.
By the way, Bryce Young has played well ten to
fifteen hundred one yards a touchdown, no picks, but tua
(55:46):
rolling up stats thirteen of seventeen one to fifty two
and a couple of touchdowns. Where is he right now
in the MVP chase to a tongue Bay Low, Oh.
Speaker 4 (55:54):
He's one of the favorites, if not the the favor
right now. I think he should be the them VP
favorite right now because of the way he's played in
that Mike McDaniel offense. It's not for everyone. You have
to be consistent, you have to be able to connect
with these playmakers, and if you don't make those throws,
there's gonna be a significant amount of belly aching. But
(56:15):
he is a true pocket passer to a tongue of Ilo,
does not want to get out and create for himself
or extend plays necessarily that's where he's gonna get hurt.
He's only about six feet tall, and you know, obviously
at the NFL level, these defenders they can make you
pay if you get into the land of the giants outside.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Of the tackle box.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
So what he's trying to do is work the pocket,
find his playmakers and get it to them, and they're
happy to oblige.
Speaker 2 (56:44):
So the forty nine ers are really having to grind
it out today against the Browns. Forty nine ers with
the ball right now, they're in Cleveland territory leading ten
to seven. You think about all the great numbers this
team has put up offensively.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
Here's some of the numbers today.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
McCaffrey ten carries forty three yards, three catches just nine yards.
Ayuk has one catch for thirty three yards. But how
about this George Kittle one target, zero catches, Deebo Samuel
one target, zero catches, So right now brock Purty seven
to twelve, just seventy two yards and a touchdown. So
(57:21):
this Cleveland Brown's defense. You know, there's always so much
attention on, you know, quarterbacks and all the controversy that
happens with Deshaun Watson and everything else.
Speaker 3 (57:32):
PJ.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
Walker into quarterback today. But they have assembled, I mean, seriously,
one of the best defenses in this league.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
Oh yeah, there's no question about it.
Speaker 4 (57:41):
Everybody playing against Cleveland is going to struggle offensively.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
By the way, just very quick.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
It's raining right now and Brock Purty just literally had
the ball slip out of his hands.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
And I was about to say and then throw on
top of it. This is a road game, and it's
getting closer and closer to winter time, and a lot
of these Midwest and Northeast cities with open stadiums, and that's.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
Exactly what Cleveland has.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
Tough place to play when you're facing some weather, especially
from the Bay Area where you know, you're still dealing
with sunshine and you know, I mean, you get some
rain up there.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
And we're used to it after four years of quarterback
in at Iowa State.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
Yeah, but that doesn't mean that everybody's used to it.
That doesn't mean that the entirety of the team is
going to be influenced by prock Pardies college experiences. I'm
talking about the whole look Rock Purdy. Whether the ball
slipped out of his hands because of the rain or
not because the rain that's not my point. I'm talking
about the forty nine Ers in totality when they go
(58:43):
on the road, or any of these warmer weather teams
are dome teams when they go on the road this
time of the year. Defense helps get you win wins
when the weather is sloppy, and frankly, the forty nine
Ers have one of the more talented defenses, so this
is going to be probably one of the uglier wins.
If they escape with a win from Cleveland, which we
(59:04):
assume they will, that the forty nine Ers have on
their resume, and I'm sure Kyle Shanahan was preparing the
team for that, because if you know anything about football,
you have to have a lot of respect for what
Cleveland's done defensively so far this season.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
All Right, we have a touchdown in the Vikings Bears game.
It's the Vikings that score on a touchdown pass from
Kirk Cousins to the rookie Jordan Addison. We also have
our first miss extra point of the day.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
Extra point is no good.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
So the Vikings lead the Bears twelve to six with
twelve seconds to go in the first half of that game.
Speaker 3 (59:41):
I was getting worried if we're gonna have a miss
extra point.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
Well it wasn't missed, it was blocked.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
Yeah, well that's a miss.
Speaker 4 (59:47):
So Greg Joseph gets his extra point at ten block Minnesota,
leaving twelve to six in Chicago and again another open
air stadium playing against a Dome team. You know, these
are sloppier rockham soccam games that a lot of these
teams in Chicago and you know in the Northeast, like
(01:00:08):
the Jets and the Giants and the New England Patriots,
the Buffalo Bills, they start to have a little bit
of an advantage because they're practicing in this stuff all
week long and can be treachery for teams that aren't
used to it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
All.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
Right, halftime, the Bengals are leading the Seahawks fourteen to ten.
Joe Burrow eighteen to twenty two. That's the good news,
but still only one hundred and forty three yards passing
rich He's completing his pass is just seven point nine
yards per completion. Jamar Chase five catches for sixty seven yards.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
But that aside.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
I've been watching a lot of this game so far,
and I trust the eyeball test. Burrow just seems physically healthier.
He had a scramble situation where he went ford, he
retreated someone like we've seen in the passage Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
He wasn't laboring at all. He seemed to be moving freely.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
So the good news are the Bengals in a game
that they just have to win today.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
I can't go to two and.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Four and really have hopes of any kind of glory
at the end of this season. But it looks, at
least physically like Joe Burrow not one hundred percent is
approaching that right now.
Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
Yeah, yeah, there's there's no doubt about it. He's starting
to look more like himself and the Seattle Seahawks are
forcing it to be on him. They've taken away the
run games so far. This team in total has nineteen
yards on the ground at the half, and so they're saying, hey,
Joe Burrow, with that strained calf and everything, can you
beat us through the air, And so far the Bengals
(01:01:39):
are proving they can. Now, you know, Pete Carroll, he's
gonna sit down with the defense. They're gonna make adjustments.
They have yet to sack Joe Burrow in this game.
He's thrown two touchdown passes one to Boyd and then
one two.
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
I see this.
Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
This is going to be one of those games where
in the second half Joe Burrow, who's been so special
over the past couple of years since joining the Cincinnati Bengals,
He's got a lot to prove because so far this season,
again we can blame it on the CAF injury, but
like you said, he's looking healthier, and so this is
(01:02:13):
an opportunity for him to prove exactly why he got
a boatload of money paid to his bank account by
the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):

I'm trying to see Moncey and we got all this equipment. Now,
(01:02:43):
when Monci and Alex do their show on Saturday's Rich
they have a full production crew here.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Now that's I mean, it's like a full production crew.
Speaker 4 (01:02:52):
The lighting guy, the makeup art is it's wardrobe.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Yeah, I mean it's quite a production now, and sack cuttainly,
I've got equipment here.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
I can't even see you.
Speaker 10 (01:03:04):
This equipment here is mostly you're right, we do use it.
Speaker 9 (01:03:07):
But it's Kavino and Rich who like to look pretty
and light their sets up too.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
So Covino, they really doll up.
Speaker 1 (01:03:13):
They did, yeah, exact.
Speaker 10 (01:03:15):
Way, exactly, so you can't see that. I'm wearing a
Taylor Swift shirt. I literally wore Taylor Swift.
Speaker 9 (01:03:20):
So you guys can see Taylor Swift today since we
saw her on Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
Okay, someone's doing all right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
So and again every time I mentioned Taylor Swift, social
media comes after me. But yeah, they are now holding
hands publicly, exact right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
Okay, it's the big.
Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Stuff, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
It's a big step in any relationship.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
The holding of a hand.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
That's how you know it's love.
Speaker 10 (01:03:42):
You do know it's love?
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
Thank you?
Speaker 9 (01:03:43):
Yes, yes, it is seven games going on right now.
They're all pretty much at halftime except for one, and
it's the forty nine Ers and the Browns. It's a
lot closer of a game than I thought. San Francisco
up ten to seven with a little over one minute
to go in the first half. The Seahawks and the
Bengals are about to start the third quarter, with the
Bengals on top fourteen to ten. Joe Burrow looking a
(01:04:05):
little better like you guys are talking about.
Speaker 10 (01:04:07):
He's thrown for one hundred and forty three yards.
Speaker 9 (01:04:09):
And two touchdowns. The Vikings ended the first half with
a touchdown. Thankfully, Kirk Cousins finds Jordan Addison in the
end zone.
Speaker 10 (01:04:18):
But they you guys talked about it.
Speaker 9 (01:04:19):
He didn't miss the extra point, it was blocked and
then the Bears went for it. But Vikings on top
twelve to six at halftime. Commanders up on the Falcons
seventeen to ten. The Dolphins and the Panthers, it's been
a fun one. Miami did take the lead to a
Togovailoa spreading the ball to everybody, Rahiem Moster, Tyreek Hill,
Jaylen Waddle, and they're up twenty one fourteen. Jaguars up
(01:04:41):
on the Colts twenty one to six, and the Texans
are beating the same seventeen to ten.
Speaker 10 (01:04:46):
Again.
Speaker 9 (01:04:46):
Most of these are at halftime, and we do have
baseball news, guys, because Game one at the ALCS at
eight fifteen pm today between the Rangers and the Astros,
and they officially added Max Scherzer to the roster.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Says a big By the way, Nick Cannon, father of twelve,
says that if Taylor Swift wants a baby, he will
father that baby.
Speaker 10 (01:05:08):
Tell me this is a lie.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
No, no, no.
Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
He actually won on a show saying that if Taylor
Swift wants a baby, he will oblige her. He has
twelve with six different women, and he is willing to
father a thirteenth child for Taylor.
Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Swift and that's her favorite number. So there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
It is mind.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
Blown, all right.
Speaker 9 (01:05:30):
So yeah, I'm not gonna the things I want to say,
I'm not allowed to say on the radio.
Speaker 10 (01:05:34):
So I'm just back to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
You, all right, thank you very much. All right, now, Rich,
I wanted to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
By the way, this is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio,
Steve Hartman and Rich Ornberger with you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Currently, the worst team in this league is the New
England Patriots.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
When you lose back to back games by a combine
score of seventy two to three, I mean, it's one
thing to lose on the road to the Cowboys thirty
eight to three, which that thirty five point march and
the worst of Bill Belichick's coaching career. And then to
follow that up with a home loss thirty four zip
to the Saints, a team that came into that game
with just four offensive touchdowns in the first four weeks.
(01:06:11):
So today they will be playing the Raiders in Vegas.
But this, right now, in the moment, is the worst
team in the league. We talked about this last week
because we are eyewitness of that Patriots embarrassment to New Orleans,
and I was asking you about what's that whole week
(01:06:31):
going to be like as the Patriots come off back
to back blowout losses to get ready to head to
Vegas to take on the Raiders. Give us some insight here, Richie.
You know this organization, well, you know people in the organization.
Where do they stand right now? We haven't heard any
public announcement from Bob Kraft about Belichick, But what do
you think is going on as the Patriots try to
(01:06:54):
somehow turn around what right now appears to be a
season that's about to go off the cliff.
Speaker 4 (01:07:02):
Boy, First and foremost, these last two weeks have been
sweet misery for these players, knowing how Bill Belichick runs
that organization and playing for him for three years, when
you're on any sort of stretch of losing games, it was.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
Made to be miserable.
Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
Everything gets better when you win, and so I don't
know if it was intentional, but it even felt like
all the way down to the cafeteria like the food
was worse when we were losing.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
It's that bad.
Speaker 4 (01:07:33):
But on the bright side, if you start to win,
and you start to string together a couple of games
and you build some confidence, the season can obviously turn
around in a hurry. I don't know if they have
the sort of firepower they can turn around a season with.
Without Tom Brady and with the current cast of characters
around this offense. As good as Belichick's defenses have been
(01:07:55):
for years and years and years due to injury and
circumstance and personnel, this is one of the worst he's had.
And we just talked about if they've been outscored fifty
nine to three in the past six quarters with Mac
Jones at quarterback and with this the offensive skill he
has to work with, and then you look on the
defensive side and giving up fifty nine points in a
(01:08:17):
game and a half fifty nine outscored fifty nine to three.
Typically we're able to say, hey, look, you know, Patriots lost,
but boy, that defense shined in a loss. He can't
even say that anymore. This is a results driven league.
What do I think is gonna happen? Well, if the
Patriots continue to struggle, you now have Belichick's track record
(01:08:38):
since Tom Brady has left, and Robert Kraft is going
to have to front up a real conversation about what
he wants to do with the future of this organization. Also,
they're going in to play the Raiders, and a lot
of people are like, ah, well, Josh McDaniels this and
the Raiders that Bill Belichick doesn't have a particularly great
(01:08:59):
record against his former assistant coaches. It's hovering around five
hundred and maybe a game below five hundred. So it's
not like Nick Saban, where when he's playing against his
former coaches he wins almost always with Bill Belichick edge
to his former coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Let me ask you this, knowing the mindset of Belichick.
If a discussion begins, let's say they go five and
twelve this year, four and thirteen or something along those lines.
Bob Kraft sits him down and says, you know, come
on now, Bill, you got a lot in your plate.
You know, I still have a lot of trust in
you as a coach of this team. But you know
some of the personnel moves. I mean, we need better
(01:09:39):
talent and we're just not drafting well, We're not getting
the players we need to become a contender in this league.
Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
We'd like to relieve you of the duties.
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
I mean, is Belichick one of those guys, because I
can't believe he would go along with that, having had
such control over this organization for so long. But is
he one of those guys that would say, you know what,
I'm not comfortable with that. I going to down or
there's no way I quit on that note. If you
want to get rid of me, fire me. How do
(01:10:07):
you think Belichick would handle that?
Speaker 4 (01:10:09):
I'm my guess is they're going to have to fire
him in order for him to leave.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
I no idea. I agree.
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
I don't think he's going to resign. I don't think
he's going to accept an offer to resign. I think
that Bill Belichick is a lifer. And if if, if
it's the situation where Robber Craft wants to move off
of him. He's not going to give Craft the easy
way out, because he's given nobody the easy way out
(01:10:36):
his entire career. The expectations are the expectations, and if
he feels his owner has given up on him or
given up in believing in him, he's going to force
him to fire him. That's honestly how I think this
goes down. And I don't think there's any amount of
money that they can give him in severance, you know,
to part ways more amicably, because I just don't think
(01:10:59):
that's that's in him his creed as a person or
a coach. So I again, we're jumping pretty far down
the line in terms of conclusions. I know the record's
awful right now, but you look at the New England Patriots,
you look at Bill Belichick, I should say, and what
he's done over the past two decades, it's hard to
argue with results. Let's wait this out. If I'm Robert Kraft,
(01:11:22):
I'm not doing anything rash. I'm certainly waiting until the
end of the season to make that decision, But so
far the results have been very poor.
Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
By the way, if you say you just can't fire
a coach of this level. Think about what happened to
Paul Brown. The Cleveland Browns were named after their coach.
If you ever wonder how they became the Cleveland Browns,
they were actually named after Paul Brown, who was their
original coach. They were in the All American Football Conference.
First ten years, they were in the championship game every year.
(01:11:53):
And then our Modell buys the team and after the
second year together, he fired him, fired them, He fired
the man the franchise was named after.
Speaker 1 (01:12:04):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
He re emerged years later with the Cincinnati Bengals. They
were afforded a opportunity to be a franchise, a new
franchise and then the American Football League and he resumed
his head coaching career.
Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
So uh yeah, it could happen. And I agree with
you though, Rich.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
I mean, if he has to sit down where it's
so like Bob Kraft says, you look you out, I
really like you to resign. He's not going to resign,
No way. You don't want me here, fire me? And
how was that? How would that look for Bob Kraft?
How would he handle being put in that position where
(01:12:40):
the pressure is so intense that the fans or whoever
say we need to move on from Belichick. Can you
see Bob Kraft delivering the news that he has fired
Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Well, again, we're getting way ahead of ourselves.
Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
I mean, what we've seen in the last couple of weeks,
I don't know how they going to turn this thing around.
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
Well, I don't think they're going to turn it all
the way around, and certainly not this season. This has
been a team outside of Mac Jones' rookie season, has
been sliding after Tom Brady left. I mean, this was
a twelve win football team in twenty nineteen. Their season
ended in the postseason at home a pick six punctuated
Tom Brady's career with the Patriots to the Tennessee Titans,
(01:13:24):
and then they moved on to the COVID year with
Cam Newton a seven win team, and then Mac Jones
and his rookie year with a great defense and a
serviceable offense, had double digit wins, ten win team. But
the slide is on now eight to nine, last year,
first losing season since Bill Belichick has been a coaching
(01:13:45):
in New England outside of the COVID year.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Well, actually, their very first year had a losing season.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
Oh they did in two thousand or whatever it was. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:13:54):
That so outside of the very first year and the
COVID year, his first losing season.
Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Yeah, it's one of these things where I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
Bill Pelichick has a very different record even before when
he was a head coach, before Tom Brady and now afterward.
But I first, he's not in danger of losing his
job this season. This is going to be an offseason decision.
It's going to have to be a body of work decision.
It's going to have to be debated amongst the front office.
(01:14:24):
But say this team only wins, I don't know, something
ridiculous like four games, five games in a seventeen game season,
and Bobcraft ultimately decides to fire Bill Belichick. I don't
think there's gonna be a tremendous amount of pushback from
the fan bases. And the reason why is because of
the expectation that Bill Belichick helped build up in New England. It's,
(01:14:49):
you know, you sort of build it up for somebody
else to tear down, and that that's exactly what it'll look.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Like with this fan base in New England. If they
struggle that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Mightily, well, bottom line here in terms of without Tom Brady.
In ten seasons, five in Cleveland and five in New
England where he doesn't have Tom Brady as his quarterback,
including the year that he was hurt, He's won a
total of one playoff game in those ten years without
Tom Brady. All right, coming up on the other side,
we'll get ready for the second half of seven games
(01:15:21):
going on around the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Play action.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
How has to slide to as right as the pocket
collapse throws back underneath the Robinson.
Speaker 6 (01:15:31):
Great top off twenty fifteen to ten, five head of
steep touch out, touch out, Watch again, Bryan Robinson fall
downses into the eisode.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
That's big one hundred Commanders Radio Network and the Commanders
in command right now leading the Falcons twenty four to ten,
twelve minutes ago in the third quarter and that game.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Steve Harbin and
Rich Armberger with you. We are live from the ti
iraq dot com studios. Quick rundown of the scores here.
(01:16:01):
Commanders lead the Falcons twenty four to ten third quarter
inside ten minutes to go. Vikings over the Bears twelve
to six, Bengals lead the Seahawks fourteen to ten, six
and a half minutes to go in the third quarter halftime,
forty nine Ers hanging on, leading the Browns ten to
seven third quarter, eleven and a half minutes to go.
Dolphins still lead the Panthers twenty one to fourteen eleven
(01:16:23):
a half minutes to go to the third quarter. Jacks
still have a twenty one six lead over the Colts,
and the Texans are leading the Saints seventeen to ten
inside eleven minutes to go in the third quarter in
that game. So you know, it gets to that point
of the season Week six, Rich and we were talking
about the Bengals earlier. Three and three sounds a lot
different than two and four. Oh yeah, you know, if
(01:16:46):
you're through six games, you're at three and three, you
very much in the mix.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
But if you're two and four or worse, not impossible.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
But considering and how balanced this team this league is,
and even on full display today we were talking earlier,
through five games, the forty nine Ers seemingly are just
light years everyone else, and they are struggling today. Bad
weather and a good Browns defense in Cleveland today, But
you don't want to dig that kind of hole. No,
(01:17:20):
you really need to get to at least five hundred
through the first six games of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
The Bears also update on Justin Fields. He left the
field holding his right hand after a sack. The Vikings
showed all out, Blitz ended up only rushing three and
Daniel Hunter has two sacks against against Fields today. It's
just been it's just been a bad day for Justin Fields.
(01:17:48):
And I said it earlier, Steve. If he's going to
be tradable this season, you need to keep him healthy.
And unfortunately for the Chicago Bears, it looks like they
may lose him for the game.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
We'll give you an update as soon.
Speaker 13 (01:17:59):
He just went into the blue injury tens on my
screen here.
Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
So yeah, all right, So sack sacked four times in
this game so far.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Yeah, and that's not good. And a lot of times
again when you have a quarterback trying to extend plays.
We said this or years, Russell Wilson, he was always
amongst the leaders in getting sacked, you know, and as
a former offensive linean yourself rich, you know, so many
times you look at these sacks like wow, offensive lines
getting killed, and you're like, I'm not really. You know,
(01:18:27):
I got a quarterback that's trying to extend the play.
He's hanging on a little too long. There's only so
long we can hold him off.
Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
Yeah, I mean so that sacked. You can look at us,
but that's really on him.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
It's a frustration for a lot of offensive lineman when
you're doing a nice job blocking and you create a
pocket for a quarterback and he just has happy feet
and he can't settle. He refuses to climb the pocket
and get to the depth position where he can throw
from the pocket. A lot of quarterbacks in the league,
especially these days, they come from offenses where they're not
(01:19:00):
used to throwing out of the well, so to speak.
And what I mean by that sort of that U
shape that forms when the offensive line is setting the
depth appropriately, stoning the interior defensive lineman, and they're allowing
the edge rushers to work upfield instead of coming in
and attacking the soft part of the pocket. Peyton Manning
was excellent at it, climbing the pocket.
Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
CJ. Stroud.
Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
It sounds weird because he's a rookie, but he's good
at it. Bryce Young is that type of talent as
a young quarterback justin Fields. He's not comfortable throwing from
the pocket. He doesn't like to do it all right.
Speaker 2 (01:19:37):
Watching Miami right now again leading Carolina by a score
twenty four to fourteen. Panthers were up fourteen zip in
this game. Miami came back. Miami is right now with
the ball and again this is a game that you know, you.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
Look at Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
They get to five and one, which would match the
Chiefs of the best record in the AFC.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
They are absolutely in the mix, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
Coming up in the next hour, Riches, we continue our
coverage of the games going on. There's a couple of
games I definitely want to get to uh with you
that are coming up later this afternoon, including a match
between the Lions and the Buccaneers and the story at
two quarterbacks finding new homes. Keep it here for all
that you need around the NFL. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 14 (01:20:21):
Dozen shotgun takes, the snap, five step drop steps up.
Speaker 7 (01:20:24):
Fires to the end zone. Touchdown.
Speaker 14 (01:20:27):
Vikings Jordan Addison with his fourth receiving touchdown this season.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
That's big. Excuse me, that is k Fan one hundred
point three FM. Vikings Radio Network. That's the only touchdown
that game until just now the Vikings have scored again.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
On a what is that? What happened here? What happened?
Speaker 15 (01:20:53):
What did I miss? It was a funnel release, I
believe Tyson baggint is the Bears a bad quarter of wow.
Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
Fumber return for the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
They now have taken a nineteen to six lead over
the Chicago Bears in Chicago. Once again, this is Fox
Sports Red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from the ti
rag dot com studios. Tyrack dot comery up, get you
there in unmatched selection, fast reshipping, free road as a
protection over ten thousand recommended installers tie rag dot com
the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:21:24):
Hey, So after the three and out from the Vikings,
three plays later they get a fumble return for a touchdown.
That's great complimentary football because your special teams pin them
deep and then well not deep, but pin them on
their side of the field, and then you get some
points on the board going the other way.
Speaker 1 (01:21:40):
Nineteen to six, they lead.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Yeah, winner, this game gets to two and four, the
loser very much in the chase or the number one
overall pick. I want to switch gears for a very
quick second about Major League baseball as we get ready
for the League Championships series, Rich, and there's some controversy
in baseball this year. The top five records in baseball
all eliminated.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
Yep, the top three teams that won each one hundred games.
Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
That would be the Braves, the Orioles, and the Dodgers
combine one in nine in their league division series. And
a lot of people are blaming the wildcard round. That's
two out of three, meaning these teams that had the
bye were off for a week. And if you look
at the Braves, you look at the Orioles, and you
(01:22:26):
look at those Dodgers, Wow, they looked stale. And even
Dave Roberts, the manager of the Dodgers, not offering excuses
the fact they had no starting pitching, saying I got
to do a better job of getting my guys focus.
I mean, you got Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts combined
one for twenty one against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
How do you feel about buys?
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
I mean, we've seen a mixed bag in the NFL
as well, where teams, you know, have a nice win
and a wild card round and they carry that momentum
against the teams that it is sitting out a week.
We've seen it many times where a team with that
home field advantage that by ends up looking terrible and
getting bounced in that very first game. How do you
(01:23:08):
handle that time off and still stay sharp as you
get ready for the postseason.
Speaker 4 (01:23:13):
Well, there's a lot of different ways to approach it.
Certain coaches obviously like to have a pretty physical camp
as a result of or i should say, a couple
of weeks with a bye week heading into the postseason.
There's a lot of coaches who feel like it's a
great opportunity to rest up.
Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
Football obviously is a very different sport than baseball. When
we're talking about bye weeks. In baseball, you're not necessarily
resting up from the abuse of a long season. You're
resting up nagging injuries. You know guys who may not
have to have as many starts down the stretch because
(01:23:53):
you trust them in your rotation, or as many at
bats down the stretch because you trust them in your lineup. Well,
some players are capable of handling at and some players
actually respond poorly to that. You got to know your
personnel in terms of like this idea that Major League
Baseball needs sweeping changes to the wildcard round. It's always
(01:24:14):
lost on me. I'm not a huge fan of having
a wildly expanded postseason professional sports. I think there's a
point of diminishing returns, but I do not think that
the MLB is even close yet. I mean, twelve teams
get in, that's it. That's still a very limited number
of teams comparatively to the size of the league, which
(01:24:34):
is at thirty. I think it works. I think right
now works. I think if you expand larger it may
it may suffer, but I think it works right now
the way it is. In terms of the NFL postseason,
I was nervous when they expanded it to fourteen teams
when you were gonna have seven per conference, because I
(01:24:55):
thought they were going to move on to that point
of diminishing returns, but they didn't. You give the one
top seed the bye week in the first week, and
I think everybody wants to buy for that position, because,
like we discussed, it's such a violent sport. You could
use the rest if you're a head coach or you're
a football player on one of those teams, and it
gives you a little bit easier of a draw. In
(01:25:17):
terms of winning games to get to a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
No rest for the forty nine ers today. Let's update
this game. Rich ten minutes to go in the third quarter,
the Browns got a field goal to tie the game
at ten, and then Brock Perdy on a deep passed
Ayuk intercepted by Cleveland. So Brock Purdy, who has not
lost a regular season game, is a very pedestrian. Seven
(01:25:41):
of fourteen to seventy two yards, one touchdown and one pick.
Cleveland doing a number on him, and Cleveland has the.
Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
Ball back now.
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
PJ.
Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
Walker is the quarterback for the Browns right now, with
Deshaun Watson out, they're not getting a lot out of
their running game. Kareem Hummond has been pretty good. Five
carries thirty three three yards. He does have a score
on the ground. But again, a forty nine er team
coming up that demolition of the Cowboys dominating in every
single way.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
They're running in trouble today.
Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Whether it's not good, Brock Perty's had the ball slip
out of his hand a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
I don't know the hand size thing of what's going on.
Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
With the wet football there, but it looks like the
forty nine ers are in a fight to the end
here in Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (01:26:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26:26):
Look, Cleveland is a really talented defense and they can
rush you with three or four defenders and they can
force you into making some bad plays. For example, the
interception that brought Party just through. It can happen to anybody.
And Brock has been incredibly poised under fire and pressure.
(01:26:46):
But when you're being pressured by three rushers or four rushers,
it means that there's either eight or there's seven players
in coverage. And I don't care if you have, you know,
Jerry Rice out there, it's really difficult to throw. Oh
when you have the ability to double team star players.
And that's exactly what the Cleveland Browns are doing because
their rush front is getting it done. They're forcing quicker
(01:27:10):
throws in Brock wants to make, and as a result,
they're reaping benefits defensively.
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
All Right, a team that is turning things around. The
Jacksonville Jaguars, remember they lost those back to back games
to the Chiefs and the Texans. Remember that blowout loss
to the Texans. Everyone's like, oh, oh, they go to London,
they play a couple of games, they get a couple
of wins, they come home and they're doing a number
right now on the Colts. Thirty one to six Jacksonville.
(01:27:35):
Trevor Lawrence second touchdown pass of the game, this time
to Breton Strange. So Jacksonville looking really good today. There
was some concern about a little reversed jet lag after
spending a couple of weeks in London, but everything's clicking
right now. Trevor Lawrence seventeen or twenty five, one hundred
and sixty yards and those two scores, no interceptions.
Speaker 4 (01:27:57):
Yeah, the Jacksonville Jaguars figured something out on the road
in London. They beat a very talented Bills team, And
I understand it's more of a home field advantage for Jacksonville,
especially being out there the week prior, than it is
for the Bills. And also the fact that many players
on this roster in Jacksonville have played multiple games overseas
(01:28:20):
in years past, so they have that experience as well.
But the Jags, they are putting it on the Colts
right now, And you can make any excuse you want, Well,
there's no Anthony Richardson and Gardner minshew this and you know,
whatever you want to say, the Jacksonville Jaguars will sweep
the Colts in this series. Then over the course of
the season that may come back and bite Indianapolis if
(01:28:43):
Richardson gets healthy at some point, or if Gardner Minshew
can keep the wheels on for this season. They own
a two games sweep against the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
We've come to the end of the third quarter in Atlanta.
Commanders lead the Falcons twenty four to ten, but the
Falcons have a third and two at the Commander's third
teen yard line. Sam How's been the story in this
game for Washington. He has three touchdown passes, no picks,
only one hundred and thirty three yards passing. But the
Commanders again with a win, trying to get to three
(01:29:13):
and three and a team with you know, new ownership.
And we talked so much about this, you know, rich
in the offseason, about the new ownership of the Commanders
and you know, not only trying to undo all the
bad things that happened during Daniel Snyder's run on the field,
but off the field as well.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
And it's been.
Speaker 2 (01:29:32):
Pretty quiet, which actually, considering what's been happening and Washington
the last few years, is probably a good thing.
Speaker 4 (01:29:40):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, no news is good news. If
you're the Washington Commanders, especially considering the allegations that all
but sunk Dan Snyder having to step down from being
American Royalty as an NFL owner and sell it off
to Sam Harris and his ownership group alongside him, Magic Johnson,
(01:30:00):
who attended the game last year or last week. The Commanders, Yeah,
they want to stay out of the zeitgeist. They want
to stay out of the news feed except for winning,
which they've done some of this season. Now, they got
a healthy lead here to score lead heading into the
third quarter and against an Atlanta Falcons team that's got
(01:30:21):
some impressive skill position players around this loaded offense. But
Desmond Ridder, he just has not been performing quite as well.
Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
As you'd hoped.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
He's had basically two good games out of the five
he's played. This game is very, very average for Desmond
Ridder right now. Nineteen to thirty one, two hundred and
one yards through the air, one touchdown, one pick, and
he's been sacked twice.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
And that's that's kind of been what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:30:49):
The Falcons are going to go as far as whatever
quarterback they end up drafting or signing in free agency
or potentially trading for kirk Cousin. Potentially they're gonna go
as far as that player can can take them.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:31:04):
We're brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling

trailing the Texans twenty to ten, have a second and

(01:31:24):
and a half minutes to go in the third quarter
in that game, So Derek Carr and company try to
get back in this game on the road against the
surprising Houston Texans. We continue on as we head toward
fourth quarter action around the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone radio play action.
Speaker 14 (01:31:42):
Out of the shotgun, Harrison Phillip's trying to give him
a postack. Josh mattelis forced to fumble.
Speaker 7 (01:31:48):
Hits bounting a belt picked up by Jordan Hicks. Forty
thirty is loose touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
F one hundred boy three FM Vikings Radio Network. That
big fumber return has given the Vikings a nineteen to
six lead on the road against the Bears justin fields
out for the rest of the game with that hand injury.
We head to the fourth quarter there once again, this
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio Steve Harvin rich Ormberger
with you. We are live from the tai iraq dot
(01:32:22):
Com studios. By the way, the Falcons just did something.
I don't understand this, you know, yes, sir, I'm watching
that incredible matchup between Washington and Oregon YEP, and the
Oregon coach decides, with two minutes and ten seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
To go on the road and a four point lead
near midfield to go for it on fourth and three.
Speaker 7 (01:32:45):
I'm like, what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
Incomplete pass? Two plays later, Washington gets in the end zone.
I'm like, whoa, you punt the ball? They have to
score a touchdown because they're down four. Force them to
go the entire length of the field, yep. Instead, you
go for it on a fourth and three in midfield.
And then afterwards he's like, well, we really thought we
(01:33:09):
had the right play, we just didn't execute.
Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
I'm like, dude, that's on you Falcons right now.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
They just scored a touchdown twenty four to sixteen instead
of just kicking the extra points, so they're down seven,
they go for two. Yeah, now they're down eight with
eleven and a half minutes to go.
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
What am I missing here?
Speaker 4 (01:33:28):
I listen some of these coaching decisions and going back
to the college football Saturday, we all watched this is
twice now against Washington, that Dan Lanning has pulled a
stunt like this and blaming the execution of your players.
Speaker 1 (01:33:43):
To me is such a cop out.
Speaker 4 (01:33:45):
Ugh, you need to and now, don't get me wrong,
he did say it's one hundred percent my fault.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
Well, the worst one was before the half when they
went for a fourth then and just kick the just
kick the field goal.
Speaker 15 (01:33:57):
Hey, guys, real quick. Adam Schefter's weeded that forty nine
Ers running back Christan McCaffrey has an oblique injury and
is questionable to return today.
Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
And this is something that you always have to look
at with McCaffrey. He's had a history of injuries. And
by the way, the Browns are now leading the forty
nine Ers thirteen to ten, three minutes to go in
the third quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:34:20):
We're getting to the point in football, not just college football,
but in the NFL as well, where you have these
aggressive head coaches they want to be known for their aggressiveness.
They want that to be a little bit of a
thumping heartbeat for their team to rally behind. But if
you have a defense that's worth their salt, that is
(01:34:41):
filled with a bunch of guys that hopes to have
an opportunity to close out a game for you, punting
isn't ultra conservative. It just means that you trust your
defense to get the job done. So what message are
you sending to legitimately half of your football team when
you say, yeah, yeah, we know, oh that it's a
lower percentage opportunity here, but we're going to trust our
(01:35:04):
offense more than our defense. It means that you don't
trust your defense. And so I never liked that excuse either.
It's like, well, you know, we trusted our offense to
get the job done and we came up short. It's like, well,
the other side of that coin is you didn't trust
your defense and so you'll never know if they could
have gotten it done.
Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
I always laugh when I hear coaches talking about executing.
You know, your former coach with the Chargers, Mike McCoy
his last couple of years, he had the same excuse
every time they lost. We had the perfect game plan,
the players just didn't execute. Yeah, And I'm like, dude,
you did not have the perfect game plan. If your
players are not able to execute your game plan, it
(01:35:44):
wasn't the game plan they should have used exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
I one time was interviewing Wade Phillips and I asked
him that very question. I said, when you have a player,
a great player who doesn't really fit in I forget
which we were talking about, but doesn't really fit in
to your scheme, how do you make the square peg
fit or do you have to amend your offense or
(01:36:09):
your defense to sort of highlight what that player does well?
And he goes, look, it's very simple. If you have
a great scheme that a great player can't play great in,
you have a bad scheme.
Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
You need to obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:36:24):
Build your team or your schemes around your team. It
cannot happen the other way around. You can't just have
what you view as a perfect offense or a perfect
defense and nobody can play in it, because who will
ever know whether or not it's perfect or not. You
need to build your team, or you should build your
scheme around your personnel. And that's the reason why, for example,
(01:36:45):
the forty nine. Ers have had so much success as
they continue to add pieces, they're scripting plays for all
these pieces. That's the reason why the Miami Dolphins have
had so much success. As they continue to add pieces,
they're finding ways to make all the pieces fit.
Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
The Miami Dolphins were down fourteen to nothing early at
home against the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
That is not the case anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Thirty five fourteen Miami. Some of the numbers for this
team rich. This team is loaded with players that are
probably heading to the Pro Bowl. And let me let's
talk about rahemos for a second here. So A Jane's
out and he's had a tremendous start to the season,
so moster really was going to have to step it
up today and he's done just that. Sixteen carries one
(01:37:30):
hundred and two yards, two touchdowns on the ground, three
catches seventeen yards, and a receiving touchdown, So it's three
receiving touchdown or three touchdowns on the day. Tyreek Hill
just doing what he does. Six catches one hundred and
sixty three yards in a score to a tongue byelaw
At nineteen to twenty eight, two sixty four to three
touchdowns and no picks. Are you sure Miami isn't the
(01:37:53):
number one team in the AFC right now?
Speaker 1 (01:37:57):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
I still give that nod to the And that's based
off of two things. One, it's based off the fact
that they have Patrick Mahomes, who, in my opinion, is
the greatest quarterback excuse me, in terms of talent, is
the greatest quarterback to ever play the position.
Speaker 3 (01:38:14):
But he isn't having that kind of season yet, This.
Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
Under understood, But that bodes well for their future because
if they're having this much success and they haven't really
hit their stride offensively, just think about what that means
for the Kansas City Chiefs in the home stretch of
their season.
Speaker 1 (01:38:32):
Now the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (01:38:33):
The other reason why I put them behind the Chiefs
is because I don't believe that Tua can can last
an entire season until I see it. They've obviously built
an offense around this player. He's a special quarterback and
I think that he's he's more than just a game manager.
Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
He's elite.
Speaker 4 (01:38:52):
However, win healthy. You have to tag everything you say
about to a tongue of ailoa to win healthy. I mean,
this is a guy who is legitimately considering retiring this
offseason because of the multiple head.
Speaker 1 (01:39:07):
Injuries he had last season.
Speaker 4 (01:39:09):
So until we you know, we pass over the halfway
point of the season, and until we see what the
health looks like in the latter half of the season.
As you know, well, like we talked about, the weather
gets worse and the defense ratchet things down again. Yeah,
I think as long as the record is what the
record is, the Chiefs will still have the top bit
(01:39:30):
in my eye.
Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
By the way, a little bit earlier, Mark Sanchez joined us.
We're talking about this Jets home game against the Eagles
coming up. Guess who was out on the field throwing
the football.
Speaker 7 (01:39:41):
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
In fact, he had no crutches, he had no device.
Speaker 2 (01:39:45):
He actually was walking on the field five weeks after
blowing his achilles. He is insisting he'll be back this season.
It would be unprecedented.
Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
It would be unprecedented.
Speaker 4 (01:39:58):
It would be, in my opinion, foolish unless the Jets
have a real chance to win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:40:04):
I get it. Look, you have to.
Speaker 4 (01:40:07):
You have to when you're recovering from an injury, and
I've recovered from many injuries. It was really the biggest
part of my career was the fact that I was
always hurt. You know, every time I had opportunities, I
was recovering a knee or a shoulder, or a concussion
of some sort, or a torn groin. Like these things
(01:40:27):
pile up on you, and the only way to get
through it is by setting up yourself for short term
goals and long term goals. Now returning this season, it
seems like a short term goal, but it's actually a
long term goal he's trying to expedite. You're looking at
typically an eight month recovery to nine month recovery for achilles.
(01:40:48):
He's trying to shorten that all the way down to
four and a half, basically cutting the recovery time in
half to be back for the Jets playoff run if
they're able to do so. Look, you have to try
to press and you have to try to get better
as quickly as you possibly can. And I think that's
what's motivating him to get better. But the reality is,
(01:41:09):
if anybody in that organization has any sense, unless this
team is super Bowl bound, and you think that he
can help you more than the quarterback you currently have,
then it's just better for him to sit on the sideline,
help the player who's starting, and be ready.
Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
For next year.
Speaker 2 (01:41:27):
If you were Kirk Cousins, I mean again, if the Jets.
I mean, this is such a weird situation with Kirk
Cousins apparently available, and he'll be only interested in waving
that no trade class if he were to join a
playoff contender.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
I mean, so much is writing on this Jets game today.
Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
I'm not dismissing them as a team that can't be
in an undefeated Eagles team, because with that defense they
can as long as their quarterback doesn't self destruct. All right,
we got a lot of ground tocovery here. We're heading
into fourth quarters around the National Football League. I am
We're going to draw it out a little bit here
because I see someone that is trying to get a
(01:42:05):
little nutrition in her body as she is doing a
multitude of job. Still, let's find out what's training right
now and months he's one hundred percent ready to go.
Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:42:14):
I had a bite of pizza that I just ate
very quicken.
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
You love your pizza, So what what is your pizza today?
Speaker 10 (01:42:22):
So this is leftover pizza obviously.
Speaker 9 (01:42:24):
Uh, it's from Papa John's and I have these stuffed
garlic stuffed garlic bread, like the crust is stuffed with
their garlic crust.
Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
Yeah, I just so good.
Speaker 3 (01:42:34):
Yeah, spicy garlic.
Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
Yes, so so.
Speaker 9 (01:42:36):
Not the spicy regular, and then I just have regular
with the little veggies on them. The other ones just cheese.
Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Do you get this with a little marin era or
at home?
Speaker 9 (01:42:46):
I do, but I didn't bring any of that. You know,
I can't get too messy. I got a bared, I
got stuff to touch.
Speaker 4 (01:42:50):
I can't.
Speaker 10 (01:42:50):
I can't do that myself.
Speaker 3 (01:42:51):
You have plenty of room on the side over the board, right.
Speaker 10 (01:42:55):
But then I wouldn't. You're gonna see me see a
bunch of marinara sauce and garlic sauce everywhere. So now
I try to keep it at just the pizza here
at work.
Speaker 9 (01:43:02):
Guys, what if this is like a psychological strategy showing
Aaron Rodgers throwing What if it's just to scare everybody?
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
Well again, it's not just throwing the balls, walking right
totally onto the field, yes.
Speaker 16 (01:43:17):
But what if it's like, all right, get out there
and maybe we can scare people just by them seeing
you out here. I'm just saying, I'm just saying, all right, guys,
let's see how it's going here. Christian McCaffrey walked away,
he went to the locker room, came back.
Speaker 9 (01:43:32):
Now he's gone again with an oblique injury. They still
haven't said whether he's fully out or not. No Deebo
Samuel though for San Francisco. He's got a shoulder injury.
And San Francisco is.
Speaker 10 (01:43:42):
Losing to the Cleveland Browns thirteen to ten right now.
They just got going in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 9 (01:43:48):
The Bengals have a slight lead over the Seahawks at
seventeen thirteen halfway through the fourth.
Speaker 10 (01:43:53):
The Vikings defense extended their.
Speaker 9 (01:43:55):
Lead over the Bears nineteen six thanks to a scoop
and score early in the four though, so there's plenty
of time left, kind of. The Commanders are beating the
Falcons twenty four to sixteen halfway through the fourth quarter.
The Texans are beating the Saints twenty to thirteen early
in the fourth. The Jaguars have kind of exploded in
this game. Thirty one thirteen is a score over the Colts,
(01:44:15):
and the Dolphins, of course have exploded as well, thirty
five to fourteen over the Panthers early in the fourth quarter,
and again, we do have baseball tonight. Very exciting because
the Rangers officially added Max Scherzer to their ALCS roster.
Rangers and Astros tonight, Game one, eight fifteen pm Eastern Time.
And it has been thirty five years since Kirk Gibson
(01:44:38):
hit that ridiculous, miraculous home run for the Dodgers over
the A's.
Speaker 3 (01:44:43):
I was there, you were there. I was there.
Speaker 2 (01:44:46):
So the quick story and that was I was working
for the Raiders and I had just left the Raiders
after the fourth.
Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
Game of the season. I decided to resign for a
job that was ill faded down the road.
Speaker 2 (01:44:58):
So that next week they were on the road and
they had tickets for Dodgers Stadium, but no one to
go to the game. So they left him with the receptionist,
Virginia her name, and she calls me, she goes, you
want to go to the first game of the World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
I need someone to go with, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:45:15):
And I went with her, and so we're sitting in
great seats like first you know, field level seats, first
base side, and it was like the seventh inning, Dodgers
are down and it's not looking good and people are
already heading for the ya.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
And she's like, should we leave it? I could already
see the lights of the cars. I said, look, I've
been through.
Speaker 2 (01:45:35):
Because she hadn't been to too many games, I said, look,
we're probably better off, but we just wait till the
end of the game. Right, Kirk Gibson comes to the plate,
obviously to out the whole ninth inning. When he hit
the ball from where I was sitting, I just saw
the one hand fly off the back right, so I
thought he just popped it up the right field. Casaco
takes one step back and then you see the crowd going.
Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
So I'm in the middle of that delirious.
Speaker 2 (01:45:59):
Quest's nuts, And I mean it did not stop for
at least half an hour, screaming out of their minds.
Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
And she looks at me and she goes, so was
that big?
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
And I said, I'll put it this way, it's somehow,
some miracle the Dodgers actually win this World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
That home run will live forever.
Speaker 10 (01:46:18):
And it still has.
Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
And that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 9 (01:46:22):
I watching him run, He's in pain, just having to
run the bases.
Speaker 3 (01:46:27):
It was only a bat of the World Series, that
was it.
Speaker 10 (01:46:30):
Yeah, his knees he couldn't just watching him run.
Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
But times in sports there's no explaining, like what happened
that year with the Dodgers beating the Mets, beating the
Ace to win the World Series. There's no explaining this. Yeah,
We've seen this many times in sports, which is why
we love sports.
Speaker 10 (01:46:45):
That's why baseball is just so romantic.
Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
Yes, back to you guys, all right, So anyway, I
do have my ticket stuff from that game.
Speaker 3 (01:46:52):
By the way, I do have my ticket session that game.
You kept it and I did kept it.
Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
Keep it.
Speaker 9 (01:46:58):
I have it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
I check it every once in I'm like, there it is.
Speaker 4 (01:47:01):
I got it. I wonder how much that stuff is
worth now if you throw it up on eBay or
something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:47:06):
Well, I have the thing about me, a wholeso.
Speaker 2 (01:47:08):
I've kept all my credentials over the years, all the
way back to my Ucla years. For instance, UCLA played
I was the color analyst for UCLA football. In nineteen
ninety six, we go to Michigan to play the Wolverines
at the Big House, and I kept my credential.
Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
I have it.
Speaker 3 (01:47:25):
It's in pristine condition.
Speaker 1 (01:47:27):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (01:47:27):
In that game, Michigan's killing US thirty eight to three.
So it's time to empty the benches. So they bring
in the quarterback and he comes in and he throws
a pick six. It's the only touchdown UCLA scored in
the game. That quarterback was Tom Brady. It was Tom
Brady's very first college game. And I have seen people
(01:47:51):
sell tickets for that game. There was one hundred thousand
people obviously in ann Arbor for like two grand each. Wow,
the ticket steps, I have credential.
Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
You are sitting on a small fortune, don't know. And
it's like it's like it's like having powerball and never
cashing it in.
Speaker 3 (01:48:09):
I have it a picture of it, and it's in
pristine by.
Speaker 2 (01:48:13):
Actual game product from Tom Brady's first game, one billion
one dollars. By the way, the Falcons a team that
we were questioning, why would they go for two points
when you're down a touchdown? Now they have a third
and goal of washing in seven yard line trailing instead
of twenty four seventeen twenty four to sixteen. So honestly,
(01:48:37):
if they score now, they have to go for two
just to tie the game, right, I mean, what is
happening here?
Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
Hey listen?
Speaker 4 (01:48:46):
Because these guys, they they become linked with their analytics department.
They have somebody else in the booth who's helping them
make these decisions. And Arthur Smith, the head coach of
the Falcons, is a part of that revolution. He he,
He's trusting what his logistics gurus are telling him to do.
And it's like playing blackjack by the book.
Speaker 1 (01:49:07):
And I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:49:08):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:49:09):
I know that probabilities are in your favor when you
play by the book. But also, you could get a
feel for the shoe, like you could get a feel
for the deck. You can know how many face cards
you've seen, you can have an idea of how many
lower cards you've seen.
Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
You can start to get a feel for.
Speaker 4 (01:49:24):
A game, any game, doesn't matter if you're playing a
card game out of casino or you're playing a football
game in a stadium. You get a feel for it.
Probabilities cannot be accounted in those situations. So these fourth
down decisions, trust me, you're gonna see a lot more
of this type of stuff. You're gonna see a lot
more teams losing games as a result.
Speaker 3 (01:49:45):
All right, guys, I need some help here.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
So Justin Field's won out for the Bears, and they
just scored a touchdown. They're right back in this game.
Seven and a half minutes to go, trailing nineteen thirteen,
they bring in a rookie quarterback who played his college ball.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
Get this interception, Shephard interception.
Speaker 4 (01:50:04):
Desmond Riddard just threw a short pass to the Riot
intended for Drake London, intercepted by Benjamin Saint Juice. The
Commanders take over the football with five minutes eleven seconds
left in the game. They lead twenty four to sixteen
in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
All right, who is the Spars quarterback? Anybody?
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
Tyson b A g E N T bag Ghent. He's
a rookie out of Get this Shepherd college right right?
He comes into the game and he leads the Bears
right down the field seven to ten, passing sixty seven yards.
Speaker 3 (01:50:40):
Already has better SATs than Justine Thee Steve.
Speaker 15 (01:50:42):
I gotta be honest. I'm disappointed you didn't know he
was a two time first team All Peasac East.
Speaker 1 (01:50:47):
Oh yeah, stay sack?
Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
Is it Pageant Div Three? I bag badging?
Speaker 2 (01:50:54):
I think it's badgeant Badgeant beggant beggins like Lord of
the Ring. How did the Bears end up with a
rookie quarterback as they're backup out a shepherd.
Speaker 4 (01:51:04):
Let me ask you this question, do you guys like
your badgeans with a little bit of butter and garlic.
Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
You put him in the office about yeah, minnes crispy.
Speaker 15 (01:51:11):
Yeah, Yeah, I think I think the alternative is Nathan Peterman.
And we don't need to see any more of that.
Speaker 13 (01:51:16):
Yeah, we've we've had that train before. We've had the
Nathan Peterman experience. Bengals are in trouble, guys, they're leading. Now,
what happened here?
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
They just get a well, okay, seventeen thirteen, Bengals are
leading the Seahawks. Seahawks now have a fourth and goal
at the six yard line. Let's keep it right here.
Two forty eight to go in the fourth quarter. Seahawks
three and one this year, two and zero on the road,
and right now the Bengals, and we've talked about this
at nauseum how they need to win today to get
(01:51:50):
to three and three. Here we go, guys, fourth and
goal for the Seahawks. They are at the six yard
line of Cincinnati and Gino Smith look into the end
zone and he gets sacked and the Bengals survive that. Wow,
huge sack for the Bengals, so the Bengals will take
over on downs inside three minutes to go, actually two
(01:52:13):
minutes and three seconds to go. Bengals now in control,
leading the Seahawks seventeen thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:52:20):
Yeah, you're gonna need two first down from this Bengals
offense so that the Seahawks burn the remaining two timeouts
plus the two minute warning here in three seconds. Yeah,
it's just one of these games where some of them
are gonna be hard fought. This one obviously will be
if the Cincinnati Bengals hang on and win here. They
scored the majority of their points early in this game,
(01:52:41):
early second half quarter or excuse me, early second quarter,
first half touchdown, and then it's been a desert until
the three points they've scored in this fourth quarter. And
the Seattle Seahawks they're just a tricky out hanging around.
Gino Smith playing good ball this year, a follow up
back to his season last year, although two picks have
(01:53:03):
given the Bengals second chance opportunities.
Speaker 13 (01:53:05):
We have a important update, by the way, according to
one Moncy Belanios, I don't know if she's near a
microphone right now, but we we do know it is
Tyler Beigent?
Speaker 1 (01:53:15):
Is that correct?
Speaker 10 (01:53:15):
MANSI yes, I went to YouTube and I looked at
his highlights.
Speaker 3 (01:53:19):
Beigent like a Tayler Beijing agent.
Speaker 10 (01:53:21):
Okay, with a B on it.
Speaker 15 (01:53:24):
You guys are all wrong. It's Tyson Beagent.
Speaker 3 (01:53:26):
Come on, Tyson Beagent. Tyson Tyson Tyler.
Speaker 15 (01:53:29):
Must be each other.
Speaker 4 (01:53:29):
Alright, so secret Beige.
Speaker 3 (01:53:32):
And man Tyson Beige man. Right now, he's got the
Bears back in protection.
Speaker 2 (01:53:39):
Now I'm not going to do that. I'm gonna spare everybody.
By the way, how about the coltskys. They were down
thirty one six, now it's thirty one twenty. They get
a touchdown, then Trevor Lawrence throws a pick. Now they
just scored again. Gardner Minshew is thirty to forty five,
three hundred and five yards, one touchdown in three picks.
By the way, how much money are they paid? Jonathan
(01:54:00):
Taylor eight carries nineteen yards. Zach Moss just had a
rushing touchdown for the Colts. So that game is not
over yet.
Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
Yeah, listen, you don't want to throw the baby.
Speaker 4 (01:54:13):
Out with the bathwater, the old expression, right you really
you want to try to ease Jonathan Taylor into this season.
So I understand putting him on a pitch count, but yeah,
there's going to be frustrations in Indy if he doesn't
get back to for him here pretty soon because he
held out to start this season. I mean, the Colts
(01:54:34):
sit at three and two, most likely three and three
after this loss here, and that's two loss to the
losses to the Jags. You imagine how differently this season
looks if you have Jonathan Taylor the whole way.
Speaker 2 (01:54:47):
All right, coming up, we got finishes, which games are
gonna go down to the y. We got a couple
of very close games for all the latest.
Speaker 4 (01:54:54):
Keep it here.
Speaker 3 (01:54:55):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Come out in
motion from come out on, Tyson Pagent.
Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
No call yet, big pile up, big, My goodness, you
only had a half a year ago.
Speaker 7 (01:55:09):
Come on up.
Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
That's right, Sarah Thomas taking care of business.
Speaker 7 (01:55:14):
Touchdown, touchdown Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
That's Bears Radio Network, Tyson beigent Man.
Speaker 3 (01:55:24):
He's the quarterback right now, that's leading the Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
And he got the touchdown, cutting that Viking lead in
nineteen thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:55:31):
And guess what, the Bears have the ball again. Well
and then what happened?
Speaker 15 (01:55:36):
Yeah, he just threw an interception.
Speaker 1 (01:55:38):
Will showy go close easy?
Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
Go?
Speaker 1 (01:55:42):
Oh wow?
Speaker 3 (01:55:43):
Is through danger? You're gonna do that badly? So Tyson
pagent man, Uh, there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
So the Viking's take over with one fifty one to
go on the fourth quarter, they lead the Bears by
score of nineteen to thirteen. It was so good for
a second there, but begit Man just did not get
it done all right.
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
Once again, Steve Harbin, Rich Ormberger with you.
Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
We are live from the Tyraq dot com studios, and Rich,
we've had the forty nine ers retake the lead in
their game against the Cleveland Browns seventeen thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:56:23):
Now the forty nine Ers lead this game.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
Let's see here, that was on a run by Jordan
Mason getting in the end zone. But still ten and
a half minutes to go right now in that game.
So the forty nine Ers trying to figure out a
way to put away this Cleveland Browns team.
Speaker 4 (01:56:41):
Yeah, this Cleveland defense is just forcing so many punts.
We're just not used to seeing it. So far this half,
it's been a punfest for the forty nine ers. And
with the exception of that touchdown after the interception that
set up the score. So my expectation is for this
(01:57:03):
forty nine ers offense to continue to sputter, because that's
what they've shown us all game long so far against
this very stout Cleveland Brown's defense that's led by Miles Garrett.
But they have a strong secondary, and obviously this has
been a work in progress over the years, adding player
after player to strengthen that side of the football. And
(01:57:25):
the hope sincerely was by bringing in Deshaun Watson on
this enormous guaranteed contract was going to cure what ailed
them offensively, and he obviously last year was knocking off
rust from a long layoff following his suspension due to
allegations of sexual assault against massage therapists. And now in
(01:57:49):
this second act, or i should say, second year of
his contract, he is mysteriously scratched from the roster due
to an injury that he reported he was back from
last week ahead of the Baltimore Ravens game, and he's
still not playing today against the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
All right, just when we thought we had the Seahawks
put away, they're right back at it again. Forty seconds
to go right now, fourth and eight, and once again
the Bengals have thwarted them on fourth down. They were
at the Bengals nine yard line. Second opportunity for the
Seahawks to get it done, and they come up short,
(01:58:34):
so the Bengals will take over and that will be
it Bengals surviving against this resilient Seahawks team with Gino Smith.
They just keep coming at you, but a little too little,
too late, so the Bengals now will be able to
run out the clock thirty five seconds to go in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 8 (01:58:54):
There.
Speaker 4 (01:58:54):
Yeah, and a player that we don't spend enough time
talking about in the NFL is Trey Hendrickson, who to
sack today. The third round pick out of fau back
in twenty seventeen, He's got six sacks on the season.
Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
He's a big reason why when teams.
Speaker 4 (01:59:12):
Face the Bengals they struggle against this defense because like
Aiden Hutchinson, like TJ. Watt, like Miles Garrett, like Joey Bosa,
like Nick Bosa, he's one of those guys who you
really struggle to match up one on one against any
tight end or offensive tackle, and they move him around
that defensive line to key in on certain matchups and
(01:59:35):
he gets into the backfield a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
Falcons are not done yet. They have a third and
one at the Commanders thirty four yard line. There's thirty
one seconds left in the game. Falcons trailing by a
score of twenty four to sixteen. There's a timeout on
the field right now, so the Falcons looking for an
answer to get back and force this game into overtime.
(01:59:58):
So much more still to come. Don't you go anywhere.
We got all the latest news for you. This is
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 12 (02:00:06):
Fourth and seven from the eight, Gino Smith back to
throw finish looking yeah, the ball squirts forward.
Speaker 4 (02:00:13):
Have the Bengals fall on it at the eight yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:00:17):
That is Coffin now.
Speaker 7 (02:00:20):
Bam, bam, bam.
Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
That's seven hundred WLW Bengals Radio Network.
Speaker 3 (02:00:28):
It wasn't pretty, but the Bengals got it done.
Speaker 2 (02:00:30):
They hang on to defeat the Seahawks seventeen to thirteen,
evening their record at three and three on the season.
Speaker 3 (02:00:38):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 2 (02:00:40):
We are broadcasting live from the ti rag dot com
studios tyre rag dot com. We're gonna help get you
there and now matched selection fast ree shipping, free road
ads of protection, over ten thousand recommended installers, tire rack
dot com the way tire mind should be. We've got
a big finish going on in this Browns forty game.
(02:01:00):
The Browns trailing the Niners by a score of seventeen
to thirteen. They were deep into San Francisco territory, but
a big sack right there has forced a fourth down situation.
There's four ten to go, fourth and twenty one now
for the Browns at the thirty two yard line. So
(02:01:21):
you gotta take the field goal here and hope your
defense can stop the forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (02:01:25):
You can get the ball back, yeah, And who gets
to sack Nick Bosa for minus eleven yards against PJ?
Speaker 1 (02:01:32):
Walker?
Speaker 15 (02:01:33):
And yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:01:34):
I mean this is it?
Speaker 4 (02:01:35):
This This feels like probably their last opportunity. Although Christian
McCaffrey has an oblique So who do you trust offensively
when you need to wear down the clock, especially in
a game where Brock parties really struggled throwing the football
eight of seventeen for only seventy three yards, a pick
and a touchdown thrown this game? So if the Niners
(02:01:58):
get the ball back, yeah, I understan. Typically we're used
to seeing the Niners really be able to handle every situation,
but today has been very different for San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
All right, So again the final scores in from the
seven games that kicked off at one o'clock East coast,
ten o'clock on the West coast. Commanders hang on to
defeat the Falcons twenty four to sixteen, the Vikings over
the Bears nineteen to thirteen. Bengals, as we said, hang
on to defeat the Seahawks seventeen thirteen. Jaguars take care
of business against the Colts thirty seven to twenty. Of course,
(02:02:29):
earlier today in London, the Ravens beat the Titans by
a score of twenty four to sixteen. So three games
going on right now. The Browns get the field goal,
so fifty yarder. Yeah, that was a big field goal
by Hopkins there, So seventeen sixteen forty nine Ers will
take over after the kickoff three twenty one to go
(02:02:52):
in the fourth quarter. There, Dolphins, of course, manhandling the
Panthers after trailing fourteen to nothing early leak Carolina forty
two to twenty one. Final seconds of that game ticking off,
and it looks like the Texans are gonna come up
with a wow, twenty to thirteen over the Saints final
seconds of that game. And it's a game where Derek
(02:03:14):
Carr threw for three hundred and fifty three yards, not
enough for New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (02:03:18):
As c J.
Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
Stroud the rookie, he did throw his first interception of
the year, but otherwise played pretty good football today. And
so who would have thought the Texans sitting at three
and three six games into the season.
Speaker 1 (02:03:32):
Right man? The answer is no one.
Speaker 4 (02:03:34):
The answer is no one, especially when you think about
some of the teams that they had a bait had
to beat to earn this three three record. The Saints,
who had a top five defense last year and added
Derek Carr on the other side of this offseason, they
fall to the Texans, and I was amazed by the
Steelers victory. It wasn't just the Steelers victory. They beat
(02:03:55):
the Steelers thirty to six. The bright spot on the Steelers,
if they're one this season, is how good that defense was.
Speaker 1 (02:04:02):
Well not when they went to Houston to play.
Speaker 4 (02:04:05):
They absolutely dominated Mike Tomlins Steelers team and then the Jaguars.
They went on the road and they got a huge
win thirty seven to seventeen against the Jaguars three weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (02:04:17):
So this is a real team. It is a real
team now. The Jags just.
Speaker 4 (02:04:21):
Took sole possession of first place in the AFC South
with their victory today. But the Houston Texans, man, they
are nipping at their heels.
Speaker 2 (02:04:30):
All right. The it's over in Miami. Dolphins win a
forty two to twenty one over Carolina. Brice Young played
better today, not good enough, not nearly good enough. Twenty
three at thirty eight two to seventeen, one touchdown, no pick.
Two of today twenty one at thirty one, two sixty two,
three touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:04:46):
No picks, where he most hurt.
Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
Seventeen carries, one hudred and fifteen yards, two touchdowns on
the ground. He also had a receiving touchdown, and Tyreek
Hill continues to assault defenses six catches, one hundred and
sixty three yards and a score. So that means the
Dolphins and the Chiefs now share the top wreckerd in
the AFC. Both teams are at five and one, So
(02:05:12):
again we're keeping our eye on this forty nine er
Browns game. The forty nine ers at a third and
nine from their own twenty four yard line, so third
down route for the forty nine ers. It's a third
to nine from their own twenty four yard line, still
three fifteen to go in the fourth quarter. Tell you
one thing, Rich, if they got a punt here, if
(02:05:33):
they can't get this first down, look out, the Browns
can win this game with a field goal.
Speaker 1 (02:05:38):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:05:38):
The Browns got boogie in last drive, moving it down
into forty nine ers territory before the deep sack taken
by PJ Walker against Nick Bosa.
Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
Here's the third down play right now, and brock Perty
is scrambling for his life and throws it out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (02:05:53):
He has been under siege in this game. That Brown's
defensive front is for real.
Speaker 2 (02:05:58):
Brock Perty in this game nine of twenty eighty three yards,
one touchdown, one pick. This guy is a season long
passer rating over one hundred and twenty today fifty two.
Speaker 1 (02:06:11):
Yeah. I mentioned it earlier.
Speaker 4 (02:06:12):
The Browns that last drive they win on a fourteen
play drive that spanned more than seven minutes, converted on
several third downs and a fourth down along the way
to kicking that Dustin Hopkins field goal from fifty yards out.
Speaker 1 (02:06:28):
So if you're the Browns, this is what you know.
Speaker 4 (02:06:30):
We got to get it to the thirty five yard
line on the San Francisco forty nine Ers side of
the field, and that gives Hopkins an opportunity to hit
a field goal within his range. And so trailing by one,
here come the Browns. Two and two on the season.
Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
Big punt bow, nice punt for the forty nine Ers.
It's returned to the twenty six yard line, so two
fifty six to go. Plenty of time here and the
Browns have two timeouts.
Speaker 4 (02:06:57):
Yeah, this is this is a great opportunity for this
Browns football team, who really just sort of figured out
how to play this Niners team. They haven't had much
offensive success in this half at all, but again a
long sustained drive. They have to do one thing. They
have to protect the football. Really, I mean, if you
look at the tail of the tape, the Browns without
(02:07:20):
that interception that set up the touchdown, they would be
leading right now.
Speaker 3 (02:07:23):
All right, So the Browns takeover. PJ.
Speaker 2 (02:07:25):
Walker hasn't had much of a day, no touchdown passes,
He's thrown a couple of interceptions. It's going to be
up to the forty nine Ers defense to preserve this
perfect record for the Niners. Along with the Eagles, the
only two undefeated teams left in the NFL. First play
is an incomplete pass for the Cleveland Browns, by the
way underway right now. The Raiders and the Patriots have
(02:07:47):
kicked off their game. Of course, the Patriots coming off
the two most disastrous weeks in the Belichick Ara combined,
losing seventy two to three over the last two weeks.
Raiders have the ball well first, Jimmy Garoppolo in a
quarterback Josh Jacobs getting the running done. So we'll keep
our eye on that one. But now it's a second
ten for this Browns team, two point fifty one to go.
(02:08:09):
The clock has stop right now, so time timeouts not
an issue right now for the Browns. They have the time.
They just got to make plays right now. Walker is
under siege, He scrambles, he throws, and it's incomplete.
Speaker 3 (02:08:24):
Now they have third and ten.
Speaker 4 (02:08:26):
Yeah yeah, So look, I mean, this is one of
those situations that the Niners have not been in this
season yet.
Speaker 1 (02:08:34):
I mean, think about it.
Speaker 4 (02:08:35):
They've absolutely destroyed everybody they've played against, the Los Angeles
Rams with standing, but even that wasn't a close game
in the end. You know, they haven't been in a
situation so far this season, where time is ticking off
the clock and a team has the ball against them
with an opportunity to win. But that's exactly where they
find themselves here today. And good teams obviously can be
(02:08:58):
front runners and when big games, when they're way ahead,
great teams win the close ones when everything has gone
wrong with you, wrong for you. And that's really the
story of the tape here with the forty nine ers today.
Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
Oh I, a third down pass is incomplete, but there's
a penalty flag on the field, and it could be
interference against the forty nine Ers, which of course we
give the Browns an automatic first down.
Speaker 3 (02:09:23):
PJ Walker through one.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
Oh it might even be a targeting personal foul against
It is personal foul, targeting hit for the forty nine ers,
and just like that, instead of fourth and ten, automatic
first down for the Browns.
Speaker 1 (02:09:40):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 4 (02:09:41):
And these are the sort of the mistakes that you
can't make in these critical situations. And again they haven't
been in many close games. So when you're playing with
the lead, you know, a fifteen yard penalty or a
spot foul at the end of the game on one
of your defenders not as big of a deal. You know,
roughing the pass not as big of a deal, but
(02:10:01):
in moments like this, it's a huge deal. All of
these decisions and all of these these these penalties or
missed assignments or whatever it may be, are amplified when
you only have a narrow lead and a team as
a ball working against you.
Speaker 2 (02:10:16):
All right, Brands have the ball at their own forty
one yard line. Very little time has come off the clock,
and now they have a big run for a first down.
They have crossed midfield, still two thirty five to go,
and they have two timeouts, and Cleveland is in great
shape right now. That was a Ford there with a
(02:10:38):
thirteen yard run into forty nine or territory. So they're
down to the forty nine to forty six yard line.
Hopkins just kicked a fifty yard field goal, so you
know he's got the range.
Speaker 4 (02:10:49):
Oh yeah, absolutely. All you got to do basically is
get ten more yards.
Speaker 3 (02:10:53):
Now you almost want to run clock.
Speaker 4 (02:10:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, Steve, get yourself another
first down and then start thinking about how much time
you want to leave the forty nine ers with because
once you're within hopkins range, obviously you can win the
football game. So you gotta start calling players to finished
right at the sticks and also in bounds.
Speaker 1 (02:11:14):
Very important.
Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Yeah, a pass intended for Amari Cooper is into complete,
but multiple flags on the play looks like another pass
interference call against the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 3 (02:11:25):
By the way, Maury Cooper in this game, four catches
one hundred and eight yards.
Speaker 2 (02:11:28):
I mean, this ain't the prettiest drive, but the forty
nine Ers are making it easy for the Browns. Oh yeah,
And Kyle Shanahan is just disgusted with what these these
flags that are being thrown against his defense.
Speaker 4 (02:11:41):
Like I said, it's the mark of great teams understanding
the situation and playing position perfect and assignment perfect football.
This forty nine Ers team is being pressed right now
and they're uncomfortable.
Speaker 2 (02:11:54):
All right, we're gonna keep it right here to twenty nine.
The clock has stopped because either it's been a penalty
or complete pass. Brown's still with the two timeouts. Ford
goes outside and he is going to be out of bounds.
Clock is stopped again.
Speaker 4 (02:12:11):
Yeah, about a four yard pickup there, and they gotta well, look,
I mean, Ford, I get it, You're you're trying to
fight for extra yardage, but you gotta understand the situation.
If I'm if I'm in this situation, I'm Jerome Ford,
I'm getting what yards i can and then I'm getting
to the ground. Now again, they're just slightly outside I
(02:12:31):
would say, have Hopkins range.
Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
Maybe they're within it.
Speaker 4 (02:12:34):
You just hit from fifty this would be what a
fifty seven yard yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:12:39):
To be you need another first down.
Speaker 2 (02:12:41):
But in two twenty two to go they have two
timeouts plus the two minute warning. They run it up
the middle big eight. Ford is on the loose. He
is on the loose inside the fourteen yard line. Wow,
all right, So now it's a little bit tricky for
the Brown. So obviously you're in gimme field goal territory.
But the forty nine ers have three timeouts.
Speaker 1 (02:13:03):
Remaining and the two minute warner and the two.
Speaker 3 (02:13:06):
Minute warning, so it's not gonna got easy to run
out the clock.
Speaker 1 (02:13:09):
This is what you gotta do.
Speaker 4 (02:13:11):
I mean, look, Ford's got the hot hand, so I
would suggest continue feeding him, get yourself a first down
without scoring. This is one of those situations where in
New England, if you had a goal to go situation
and you're playing against a defense or an offense that
you don't want on the field any longer. What you
(02:13:32):
do is you try intentionally not to score, and you
milk as much clock off of the the as much
time off of the clock as you possibly can.
Speaker 1 (02:13:43):
So this is the situation.
Speaker 4 (02:13:45):
Hopefully Kevin sis Stefanski is having that conversation with his
skilled position players and they're talking about in the huddle
because if you get the football and you can score, here,
it's better just to get down rather than hand the
ball back to the forty nine ers offense with all
their timeouts and say two minutes left to play.
Speaker 2 (02:14:05):
All right, with all these timeouts and it looks like
the forty nine ers could easily get the ball back.
Speaker 3 (02:14:09):
We'll be right back. Stay with us. We'll have this
exciting finish plus all the games just kicking off.
Speaker 2 (02:14:14):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, Steve Harbin, Rich Rberger,
Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We are live from the
Tyraq dot Com studios. All right, so we left you.
We set the Browns with kick a field goal. They did,
and now the forty nine ers take over and rich
rock Perdy. This is the one thing that everyone has
(02:14:36):
been saying about brock perty He's had mostly blowout wins
he hasn't had a lot of close games as the starting.
Speaker 3 (02:14:43):
Quarterback of the forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (02:14:45):
Now, with a minute thirty six to go from their
own twenty five yard line, he's got to find a
way at least to get him into the field goal.
Speaker 3 (02:14:52):
A field goal will win this game for the forty
nine ers.
Speaker 2 (02:14:56):
So at third and ten right now from their own
twenty five yard line, after back to back incomplete passes
by Brock Purdy.
Speaker 4 (02:15:03):
Yeah, this is exactly where Tom Brady and that has
been an often comparison here with Brock. Purty early in
his career shined even games where he was playing poorly.
He found a way to win when the chips were
stacked against the Patriots early in his career. We'll see
how he reacts to this, this environment on the road,
(02:15:24):
all the chips stacked against you, and you need two
points to tie, three to win.
Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
All right, So third and ten right now for the
forty nine ers, one thirty one to go. They still
have one time out remaining, but this Browns defense has
really manhandled Purty and this passing attack, especially for the
forty nine ers in this game. Party doesn't that much
time and he throws another incomplete pass. Wow, So the
(02:15:51):
purty critics are right now ready to jump on.
Speaker 1 (02:15:57):
Could be pass interference, could be.
Speaker 3 (02:16:00):
What are they calling right here? It was a hold
for sure on Cleveland. Why why are you doing that?
Speaker 2 (02:16:06):
Nine of twenty two passing eighty three yards, one touchdown,
one pick, and Cleveland gets called for the penalty pass interference.
Speaker 3 (02:16:15):
And that was pass interference, I.
Speaker 1 (02:16:18):
Mean automatic first down bails out the same I.
Speaker 2 (02:16:22):
Mean the past wasn't close. Even if he hadn't held him,
that pass was not going to get to the receiver.
So that was a golden opportunity now for the forty
nine ers. So the first and ten out from their
own thirty two yard line, Perty's looking to throw again
and he finds.
Speaker 3 (02:16:40):
Deebo Samuel. Is that Samuel back.
Speaker 1 (02:16:44):
In the games?
Speaker 4 (02:16:45):
Think a Juga's back in the game, and his third
reception of the game, he's got samael. Maybe it was
Juwan Jennings. I think it might have been Juwan Jennings
with that one.
Speaker 2 (02:16:55):
All right, So the forty nine ers suddenly on a
big play. So Samuel went out of this game, and
now the forty nine ers, let's just update you right now.
So the forty nine Ers are at the forty three
yard line of Cleveland, so they're in Brown's territory. After
that big completion, Pertty just threw a pass the Jennings
(02:17:16):
that was incomplete. Where is this game? Guys, where are
we looking? I've got three games, they're all showing the
same game right now.
Speaker 4 (02:17:25):
So I look, are you caught that first first and
ten pass for twenty five yards? And then Perty followed
it up with the first and ten opportunity after the
Ayuk first down with the short pass to the right
to Jennings.
Speaker 3 (02:17:37):
All right, so here we go.
Speaker 1 (02:17:38):
We now we've got another one in the hands of
Ayuk eight yards.
Speaker 3 (02:17:43):
So Ayuka has been his favorite target today, no question
about that.
Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
So just again, this is where a quarterback proves himself
under these conditions.
Speaker 1 (02:17:53):
Got it to day that he's not fire day.
Speaker 2 (02:17:55):
I mean, brock Perty is just eleven of twenty five
fo one hundred and sixteen yards, but they are itching
ever so close now to get into field goal range.
And again the forty nine ers do have the luxury
who have a Browns player down on the field with
an apparent injury.
Speaker 4 (02:18:12):
Well, that'll be a charge time out to Cleveland. If
you get injured inside of two minutes. It is a
charge timeout, so the Cleveland Browns will have to use
the timeout here with forty nine seconds left in the game.
Speaker 2 (02:18:23):
So the balls at the Cleveland thirty five yard line.
That's a fifty two yard field goal. So it's makeable
third and two right now for the forty nine ers
again trailing the Browns nineteen to seventeen. A forty nine
er team that has scored at least thirty points in
each of its first five games, seemingly unstoppable, has been
(02:18:44):
shut down for the most part today by this Browns defense.
McCaffrey got hurt, Deebo Samuel got banged up. In this game,
Brock Perdy has completed less than half his passes, yet
they're only a few yards away from getting into true
field goal range. Quick pass is complete inside the thirty
yard line, stop the clock, Jennings on the receiving end.
Speaker 3 (02:19:07):
And that was an absolute dime that was thrown that
time by Brock Purdy.
Speaker 4 (02:19:12):
Yeah, and he's getting a show off his clutch gene
here in a game where he has not played well
out he is playing against an elite defense on the road,
crowd against them, and he's operating. This is where the
guys with the lowest heartbeat they rise to the occasion,
and brock Purdy appears to be rising to the occasion.
Speaker 3 (02:19:34):
Where's Kittle in this game? One catch, one yard?
Speaker 1 (02:19:37):
Where is he?
Speaker 12 (02:19:38):
Well?
Speaker 4 (02:19:38):
Has that been used in this entire game? All right,
we're at the twenty defenses do that, Steve? They shut
down a player and an outlet valve for quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (02:19:47):
All right, they're at the twenty three yard line. A
second and seven right now. Note still one time out
for the forty nine ers, so they're gonna run the
clock down. We're down to eight seconds and they have
a third and seven. Now, this is usually the wise
play to go for the field goal here on third down,
just in case you have a errant snap or something
(02:20:09):
like that. And they are going to bring the field
goal team on right now, So this will be I
guess about a forty yard field goal attempt, which would
give the forty nine ers the lead nine seconds to
go in the game. Is the forty nine ers are
trying to escape and beat this Browns team on the road.
It's been a very tough game. The weather's been off
(02:20:31):
and on rain throughout, but this is going to be
officially a forty one yard field goal attempt for the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (02:20:41):
Yeah, we'll see if he can hit it. I mean, look,
brock Party did all did everything he could. I mean,
this is this is what it looks like. This is
what you ask of your quarterback. Get us within range
so we could go win the football game with our kicker.
Speaker 3 (02:20:54):
So brock Party on this final drive was able to
get it done.
Speaker 2 (02:20:57):
The big play was that interference call against Cleveland on
what would have set up a fourth and ten. Instead,
the forty nine ers get the first down, and since then,
a couple of big plays Jennings, you know, with McCaffrey
out and Samuel out coming up with a couple of
big plays.
Speaker 3 (02:21:17):
So a forty one yard field goal.
Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
Cleveland using a timeout, try to freeze the kicker right now,
so a third and seven, nine seconds to go. Again,
if they fumble the snap, they could still fall on
the ball. Although they don't have any time. Oh they
still have the one time out left, all right.
Speaker 15 (02:21:34):
So here we go.
Speaker 4 (02:21:35):
No, that was their final time out. Now, that was
their final time because of the injury.
Speaker 1 (02:21:38):
Here we go.
Speaker 3 (02:21:39):
Forty one yard field goal is no God.
Speaker 15 (02:21:41):
He missed it.
Speaker 1 (02:21:43):
He missed it. Cleveland brown win.
Speaker 2 (02:21:47):
The field goal, and the forty nine ers are no
longer undefeated. The Cleveland Browns have pulled out the upset.
Speaker 3 (02:21:55):
Wow, he missed that one. Yikes, he just pushed it right.
Speaker 4 (02:22:00):
Well, listen, every team can get got and that's the
reason why we love the National Football League, because you
are waiting for your first loss. If you're undefeated, it's
it's it's nearly impossible to.
Speaker 1 (02:22:13):
Win every game in this league. And you can see why.
Speaker 4 (02:22:16):
Every single team has ballers, every single team has Pro
bowlers and playmakers.
Speaker 3 (02:22:23):
Wow, perfect snap, perfect hold. He just flat out missed it.
Speaker 1 (02:22:28):
What a great plan by Cleveland all game long. Now
they got some help.
Speaker 4 (02:22:31):
Obviously, Debo leaving the game with an injury helps them. Obviously,
Christian McCaffrey leaving the game with an injury helps them.
But they did nice jobs shutting down some of the
outlets that Brock Party likes to get to when he's
under pressure. They rushed three and four many times throughout
the day, and still we're able to get Brock uncomfortable.
He played a poor game as a result. The running
(02:22:52):
game was almost non existent and against a juggernaut of
a forty nine er team at home. Cleveland ends up
winning this game and advances to three and two on
the season.
Speaker 3 (02:23:05):
How about this.
Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
Here is the trivia question, who was the first starting
quarterback to beat Rock Purty in a regular season game?
Speaker 3 (02:23:12):
The answer P J.
Speaker 2 (02:23:13):
Walker AJ Walker no touchdowns, two picks today with Cleveland
with the win.
Speaker 3 (02:23:19):
All right, let's find out what is trending right now.
She's been watching as we have.
Speaker 1 (02:23:24):
That was crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:23:25):
I mean, it's like it's all said, alright, the forty
nine ers get the field goal and he missed.
Speaker 9 (02:23:31):
He must feel pretty awful right now, which sucks. You know,
It's like, oh, you poor dude, Like that sucks. I
definitely did not have this on my bingo card fellas
the forty nine Ers losing to the Browns without Deshaun Watson.
But it is what it is.
Speaker 10 (02:23:48):
Nineteen seventeen will probably be the fun it is. It's over.
Speaker 9 (02:23:52):
Yes, George Kittle, I don't understand where was George Kittle?
Speaker 3 (02:23:55):
Why catch one yard?
Speaker 5 (02:23:57):
Man?
Speaker 9 (02:23:58):
I actually thought once Christian McCaffrey was injured that maybe
he was gonna get a couple more you know, ballstone
at him.
Speaker 10 (02:24:05):
But no, no, that's fine, guys, My fantasy team is fine.
Don't worry about it. All right, let's check in with
the current game. We have a couple of games going on.
Speaker 1 (02:24:15):
Some just got going.
Speaker 9 (02:24:17):
The Raiders are up on the Patriots three zero less
than five minutes to go in the first quarter, and
the Cardinals have scored first against the Rams, also a
field goal three zero early in the first Eagles, Jets
just got going scoreless, Lions, Buccaneers literally just got going scoreless.
Speaker 10 (02:24:31):
But it all started in London today, fellas.
Speaker 4 (02:24:33):
That's right.
Speaker 9 (02:24:34):
The Ravens defeated the Titans twenty four to sixteen. They
are now four and two six Justin tucker Field goals.
Of course, he is the goat when it comes to that.
The Bengals held on to beat the Seahawks seventeen thirteen,
while the Commanders took down the Falcons twenty four to sixteen.
Sam Howell fourteen of twenty three, one hundred and fifty
one yards, three touchdowns, He was sacked five times.
Speaker 3 (02:24:55):
He might need a ice bath.
Speaker 9 (02:24:57):
The Vikings defeated the Bears nineteen to thirteen. Justin Field
was out with a hand injury. And then what did
we say Tyson Beagent came in and he had a
rushing touchdown for the Bears, but they still lost to Minnesota.
Jaguars outscored the Colts thirty seven to twenty. NFL Network
reported earlier today that Anthony Richardson, he did not play
(02:25:17):
for the Colts, is considering season ending shoulder surgery.
Speaker 10 (02:25:20):
Do you guys read that? But he has a bad shoulder.
He's considering season ending surgery, which would suck.
Speaker 9 (02:25:26):
Travis Etn had eighteen carries, fifty five yards and two
touchdowns for Jacksonville. The Dolphins erased a fourteen point deficit
and beat the Panthers forty two to twenty one. Carolina
is the only winless team in the NFL zero and six.
The Texans top the Saints twenty three to thirteen. Both
teams are now three and three. What a busy day, fellas.
Speaker 10 (02:25:47):
It's been fun.
Speaker 3 (02:25:48):
Back to you, great stuff is always, Monson. We're happy
that you were able to make it here today. Oh yeah,
Rush morhtering the obstacles along the way.
Speaker 2 (02:25:56):
So yeah, really all right, Well, now we got four
games that are underway right now. As Montci mentioned, Raiders
are up three to nothing early against the Pats. Rams
have a three to nothing deficit to the Cardinals, Eagles, Jets,
Lions Buccaneers. I wanted to talk about this Lions Buccaneers game.
Buccaneers come in three to one, they're coming off of
bye week. The Lions are four to one. You talk
(02:26:17):
about resurrected quarterbacks, We're talking about two guys, Jared Goff
and Baker Mayfield, who.
Speaker 10 (02:26:23):
Are former number one overall.
Speaker 2 (02:26:26):
Picks looking for new life of new teams. And there's
no doubt Jery Goff has found that in Detroit. He
has played at a Pro Bowl level last year, should
have made the Pro Bowl. Has continued on this year.
What do you make of what Baker Mayfield has done
so far for these Buccaneers.
Speaker 4 (02:26:44):
I think he's made them believers, similar to when Tom
Brady walked through the doors in the Tampa Bay locker
room and made everybody feel like to have a legitimate
chance and a legitimate shot. I think Baker has a
lot of that tom Brady in him. Now. Obviously he's
not nearly as talented as Tom Brady. He doesn't he
(02:27:05):
doesn't have the acumen or the resume that Tom Brady has, obviously,
but he does have that underdog chip on his shoulder.
It's us against the world attitude that resonated throughout Tom
Brady's career as a starting quarterback. And Baker Mayfield is
a leader. He knows how to encourage and inspire a
(02:27:25):
locker room and to truly bring together a team. Just
look what he's accomplished in Cleveland. I mean, the Cleveland
Browns for years and years and years were absolutely dreadful
and they continue to be even when Baker was there.
But he willed that team to a playoff victory against
an AFC North rival in the Steelers, in blowout fashion
(02:27:47):
during his time with Cleveland, and that organization, I mean,
from top.
Speaker 1 (02:27:51):
To bottom was kind of a dumpster fire while he
was there.
Speaker 4 (02:27:55):
Now, granted, since then he's been injured and off and
out of the lineup and bounce around as a starter
now with Carolina and the Rams, but I think he's
found a home in Tampa and I'm very intrigued where
this season goes for the Buccaneers.
Speaker 2 (02:28:07):
So big matchup there. Chris, of course, our resident Lions fan.
I think most people now look at the Lions as
a team nipping at the heels of the forty nine
Ers and the Eagles, and with the forty nine ers
losing today, all of a sudden, the Lions looking a
little better.
Speaker 3 (02:28:27):
Considering that the Lions.
Speaker 2 (02:28:29):
I know, Kansas City was about Kelsey and Jones, but
they beat Kansas City.
Speaker 13 (02:28:33):
They beat them, so yeah, they got a w. They
also have a pretty good like it's still early. Things
can change in the season, but this is an early
lead on the NFC North that you just keep looking
at the Bears, the Vikings, and the Packers and I'm
not sure who really challenges them right now for that
division crown. So yeah, you can say this in the
first time for the Lions. They're not even looking at
(02:28:55):
just making the playoffs. They're looking at playoff positional position
jockeying right now in the season. That's how comfortable they are.
So even if they lose today in Tampa, I'm not
really sweating it because they have a lot of cushion
to work with and like you know, you're missing some
guys in injuries, but besides the defensive backs, they're still
playing incredibly good football.
Speaker 4 (02:29:16):
Next three games, a little bit of treachery on the
road against the Ravens, then they host the Raiders and
then on the road again.
Speaker 13 (02:29:23):
Bye week before going out to Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (02:29:25):
Yeah, right to face the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (02:29:27):
But that's a high octane offense, obviously in a defense
with two bookend rushers in Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.
Mack has six sacks on the season, I believe. I mean,
he's just been special this year, four against his old team,
the Raiders, So one of it's one of those. It's
one of those seasons where the lines can navigate some
(02:29:49):
tough spots here approaching the middle of their season. They
then come back home to host the Bears and the Packers.
We could be talking about a one loss Lions team
through like week ten or eleven at the season.
Speaker 13 (02:30:03):
Lions, by the way, just picked off Baker Mayfield tipped
at the line of scrimmage there and Lions come down
with it in the in the red.
Speaker 2 (02:30:11):
Zone, by the way, guys. Meanwhile, the Raiders have a
three to nothing lead. Jimmy Garoppolo got intercepted, so that
you know the Patriots have that defense. Mac Jones is
over two passing. He just got sacked for an eleven
yard loss, forcing New England to punt out of their
end zone. I mean, I'm just again eyeball test here.
(02:30:35):
For whatever reason, Mac Jones has lost it.
Speaker 3 (02:30:41):
I mean that sack he was I mean, he didn't
even he just took it.
Speaker 2 (02:30:46):
Yeah, yeah, I mean you can throw the ball, and
there's a ways to not take the sack right and
lose eleven yards forcing your punter to get out of
the end zone obviously given Vegas a great field position
already with three nothing lead.
Speaker 7 (02:31:00):
But well look, you.
Speaker 4 (02:31:04):
Lose eleven yards and you get sacked at your own
six yard line, it just sets up.
Speaker 1 (02:31:11):
Your whole quarter or your whole half for trouble.
Speaker 4 (02:31:15):
Then you're playing the field position game, you know what
I mean, And you're giving the Raiders a distinct advantage, who,
by the way, before that interception had ran a tremendous
number of plays. They ran sixteen plays on their opening
drive that ultimately finished with the field goal. That's the
reason why they have the three nothing lead in Las
Vegas today. And forced a three and out and a
(02:31:36):
punt against the New England Patriots on their opening drive,
and another three and out and a punt that's coming
up on the second drive.
Speaker 3 (02:31:47):
I thought Bill O'Brien was supposed to fix things he
has not.
Speaker 1 (02:31:51):
He hasn't.
Speaker 4 (02:31:52):
And I will say this, Partially it's Mac Jones. Partially
it's Billy O'Brien. Partially it's the offense, the personnel they have.
And the only person you can blame for personnel problems
is Bill Belichick because he rubber stamps every single decision
in that organization. So they've used draft picks improving the defense,
(02:32:14):
and free agency improving the defense. And there have been
many times where the Patriots their name was brought up
in trade conversations for star offensive players, or their name
was brought up in free agency potential signings. And they've
never made a splash in terms of offensive skill position players.
And they really haven't done that in years. And this
(02:32:37):
is the results. You have a very anemic offense as
a result.
Speaker 2 (02:32:41):
All right, four games going on right now, Big game tonight,
big game tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:32:46):
We got it all covered. This is Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio.
Speaker 17 (02:32:50):
Forty one yards for Jake Moody, which Nowski Kniels at
the thirty one to give the Niners the lead.
Speaker 7 (02:32:58):
Snap this down, the kick is up, the kick.
Speaker 17 (02:33:00):
Is good, it's no good, and the Browns will beat
for forty nine Ers nineteen to seventeen.
Speaker 7 (02:33:13):
He pushed it wide to the right.
Speaker 2 (02:33:17):
That's the Browns Radio Network, Browns with the big upset today,

from the Tirak dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (02:33:51):
Want to thank everyone today.
Speaker 2 (02:33:52):
Chris riveted on his Lions right now, early three, nothing
laid against the Buccaneers. Monsey trying to figure out what
happened to George Kittle today? One catch for one yard
and then there's bo our. Resident Eagles fan, how does
it feel to be the last team undefeated in the
National Football League?
Speaker 15 (02:34:13):
Feels good?
Speaker 2 (02:34:14):
And right now it feels better because Eagles have a
first and goal, second goal?
Speaker 3 (02:34:18):
Now, what happened there? They had a first and goal
at the three yard line. What happened?
Speaker 15 (02:34:22):
I just lost some yard of John a Boston Scott,
So he just.
Speaker 3 (02:34:26):
Lost seven yards on the play.
Speaker 1 (02:34:28):
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (02:34:29):
I thought, with the Eagles of Buston, you have experience.
What do you do, Boston Scott from the first and
goal at the three?
Speaker 3 (02:34:35):
Rich am?
Speaker 1 (02:34:36):
I right?
Speaker 2 (02:34:36):
With the Eagles, you just go to that scrum line
up and do a couple of sneaks and you're in
the end zone.
Speaker 3 (02:34:41):
Why would you get cute?
Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
Well, here's the problem is, you know, you you have
opportunities to get away from your bread and butterplay by
you know, running some different looks and and that's that's
how you make a versatile offense is you don't always
do the same thing. You don't always try the same
things out of you know, the same formations.
Speaker 1 (02:35:04):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (02:35:05):
It probably looks uncouth to people who have been following
the Eagles over the course of this season, but you
do need to throw some change up pitches. Also, Jalen
Hurts is basically that whole franchise. And the more you
do QB sneaks, the more you expose him to potential injury.
Speaker 2 (02:35:22):
All Right, from first and goal at the three to
third and goal at the ten, Hertz has a quarterback
draw play and he is gonna come up short, basically
down to the three yard line. So now fourth and three.
So does Syrianna get cute here and go for it
on fourth and three? Or do you take the field goal?
Look at bow, he's gonna sit back. He's not even
(02:35:43):
gonna answer that question. What do you think Sirianni does?
Speaker 4 (02:35:45):
There's no question in my mind he's gonna go for it, Nick, Sirianni,
he fell off of that Frank Wright coaching tree and
he's a very aggressive coach. It which shocked me if
they kicked the field goal here.
Speaker 2 (02:35:55):
All right, the Raiders have just gotten a touchdown, Jimmy
Garoba blow throwing a touchdown pass to Jacoby Meyers. So
ten nothing Raiders quickly against the Patriots. That's eighty two
to three. Now the Patriots have been outscored the last
couple of weeks, and the Eagles are going for it
forth and go with the three. It's a draw play
to Hurtz and he doesn't even come close. He tried
(02:36:19):
to reach across, but I think that was after he
was already down. They're saying he's down short of the
goal line. Yeah, I think he was down.
Speaker 3 (02:36:30):
Did you watch that play.
Speaker 2 (02:36:31):
I mean, he tried to reach across, but it looked
like he was clearly down before he reached across to
the goal.
Speaker 4 (02:36:38):
These plays are reviewed, even if they're not touchdown scoring plays.
They'll take a closer look at this, so we'll see
what the official comes up with.
Speaker 3 (02:36:47):
But the ruling on the field is that he was short.
Speaker 1 (02:36:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:36:52):
Now that's actually a good question when you have a
close play where it could have couldn't have been a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (02:36:58):
I know they automatically leave review all touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:37:01):
But well they I don't think they're reviewing this play.
Speaker 1 (02:37:03):
Yeah, I don't think so either.
Speaker 3 (02:37:04):
That's that's first down for the Jets. They take over.
Speaker 2 (02:37:08):
I mean, that's I don't know, bo, let's let's hear
your call in those last couple of calls by the
UH yet first and goal at the three yard line
four plays later, you hand the ball back to the
Jets with no points.
Speaker 4 (02:37:21):
Yeah, yeah, I think you're right. I think I mean
in this spot.
Speaker 2 (02:37:27):
Because I mean, the Jets obviously have a really really
good defense.
Speaker 4 (02:37:32):
Right well, and then maybe Nick Sirianni is thinking himself,
but they also have a really really inept offense. So
we're really good defensively, and we're going to guard them
up against their own goal line and try to get
a safety in the ball back by.
Speaker 2 (02:37:46):
The way by the Rams right now trailing the Cardinals
three to nothing. This game is that's so far. There's
so few LA fans supporting there. I mean tomorrow, can
you imagine what that money Night game is going to
look like with the Cowboys and the Chargers. Oh my gosh,
I mean, I say ninety Cowboy fans. I might be
low balling that one, but right now, the Rams. I'll
(02:38:08):
tell you one thing about this Rams team, and we
got oh ball is dropped in the end zone. Wow,
the cool The rookie had a chance to make a
catch there in the end zone, could not hang on.
So the Rams will try again. That is a catchable ball,
and he had the ball, but when he hit the
ground it popped out. This Rams team that I predicted
(02:38:30):
would be the worst team in the league has been
anything but. And I'll give it to Matthew Stafford doesn't
have overwhelming numbers this year, but he's played hard. Aaron
Donald's back up to snuff. That got Cooper Cup back
in the fold. He's got two catches already, fifty two
yards Rams and Sean McVay. I think he's proving to
a lot of people he's a pretty good coach.
Speaker 4 (02:38:52):
Yeah. Yeah, Sean McVay obviously is a good coach. You
don't win a Super Bowl, you don't appear in two
of them unless you're a good coach.
Speaker 3 (02:38:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:38:58):
And he's done that with two different quarterbacks. Remember the
first one was Jared Goff they lost to the Patriots.
The second one he gets the victory with Matthew Stafford
two years ago. And if it weren't due to injuries,
I think last year would have been a very similar
looking year to the year prior. I mean, how much
worse did they get offensively by adding you know, or
(02:39:20):
should say, by having Cooper cup out of the lineup
for the majority of the season and Matthew Stafford hurt
for close to the majority of the season. So I
think the Rams are gonna be a tough out this
season and they may flirt with a playoff. Berth.
Speaker 2 (02:39:34):
By the way, here are the numbers on that Raider
Patriots game. One hundred and forty eight yards of the Raiders,
five for the Patriots. The Pats are really really bad.
Speaker 3 (02:39:44):
This is good though, keep it right here. This is
Fox Sports Red Zoe Radio.
