Rich David Steve Cavino. Welcome, good to see it.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Well, we needed this extra time because we can't fit
all this fun into two hours on Fox Sports Radio again.
Welcome to over Promised, brought to you by DraftKings Sportsbook.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
It's almost the time of the year. Let's go, yeah,
baby to eat turkey.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Now we got lost to get to. Every year in
sports there is a feel good story. Oh yeah, and
we got the one. Oh yeah, Riches picks.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Oh yeah, I got a teaser bet for Thursday Night football.
It's a Locke and an NBA pick for tonight. So
hang time, can't wait. I saw a meme today and
that's where you.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Get all your news. By the way, give me reader.
All my jokes from memes.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
So I saw a meme I think it was courtesy
of Sports Illustrated about Sauce Gardener. He's got the sauce,
and he said that he had his first New York pizza,
his first pizza by the.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Slice what and it was fire.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
So I went through this roller coaster of emotions because again,
we're from the East Coast. We're so East Coast. We
built our careers in New York City, out here in
LA right now. But I'm a Jersey kid. We take
a lot of pride on the East Coast of our.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Pizza, a lot of pride in the pizza.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
So first thought was like, he's playing for the Jets,
this is his first New York slice.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
My first thought was, yo, Sauce Gardener, no shit, New
York pizza is good. It's fire. Come on your name, Sauce.
It's just to say name is say Marianero.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
It was to hold up, but then you know it's
sunk in. And I was like, well, I'm glad to hear.
I know right, I'm getting hungry just thinking you gotta
say next. I learned that you fold it too. You
gotta fold the slice. Look there's an art form, especially
in New York. Right that used to be dollar slice?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Is it still dollar slice? Yah? Yeah, you can still
get a still.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Pizza by the slice on your way home from work
after a late night partying. You mean to tell me
this guy has been partying in New York City and
hasn't gone out for a late night slice yet, or
maybe maybe he's getting different kinds. He got a slice
of cheeks, sauce, carters, some late night slice. So, you know,
(02:44):
after I was like, really his first it sunk in
that he said it was fire, and I'm like, well,
I'm glad to see that it lived up to the
reputation because a lot of times when things are overhyped,
sometimes they underproduce.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
So you know, I almost divorced my wife before we
even got engaged. Yeah, because she's from Texas and the
first time my wife came to New York, I'm like,
you gotta have New York pizza. It's fire and she goes, oh,
it's sort of lacks to borrows at the.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Mall, and I was like, I gotta decide if this
is going to work out. Tomorrows at the malls. You know,
one step above Dominoes. Maybe, look, there's great junk food pizza.
We we don't want to be pizza snobs. There is
great junk food pizza. I love Dominoes, I love them,
but there's nothing better than a real, authentic, East close,
(03:33):
New York City slice of pizza. So, like I said,
it lives up to the expectation. They talk about the water,
right spot, the war, something in the ze that makes
it New York pizza. I gotta give props to New
Jersey pizza too. It's all the same in my opinion,
but the New York slice so Sauce Gardner, Welcome to
(03:54):
New York, Welcome to New Jersey, Welcome to the East Coast.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
It's official. Now you have to have that.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
You gotta get John's Pizza on Bleeker on Long Island.
My favorite is King Emburdos. Everyone's got their favorite, speakgain.
I'm from Union, New Jersey. My family still lives there.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Right, and you would think you were watching Sopranos or something,
because all the pizza places that my dad goes to
have this mafioso sort of name to him and his favorite.
Right now, my dad goes through phases, right, He's.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Like, yeah, you got next time you're home, you gotta
go to Johnny Napkins.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Is that a real Is that a guy?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
You know?
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Is that? Is that one of your guys? You know what?
One of his goomba friends.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
He's like, No, Johnny Napkin is the pizza place in town.
But again, it's a part of the culture. It's very
much a part of how we grew up. So hey,
sous Gardner, it's about time.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
It's about time to have that Johnny Napkins pizza. Heyny Napkins.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
By the way, I didn't know the little boy logo,
but I yeah, I guess Edny Nelkins.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Where's an apronurse suspenser.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
He's a dag anyway, sus Gardner, I'm glad to hear
it lived up to the hype. And there's so many
great places out there to enjoy. Get the famous raised
get the John's on what street?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Is that Blaker?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
No, no, no, the one in midtown on six seven. Yeah,
you could get that well, I'm sorry, seven.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
To forty fifth, I believe. Yeah, there's there's so many places.
There's too many, there's so much pizza. I'm thinking about
doing this thing.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
I don't know if it'll full work. Thinking about doing
this thing where I take one bite.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Ah. Yeah, everybody knows the rule, you know.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
That don't never work, bro, I don't work stupid. But honestly,
you maybe if you try two bytes, two.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Bytes, Hey, you know what? Could maybe go for Yeah,
two bits and review it.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, not a bad I think no one can get
a feel for a pizza and one bite bites.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
But you know, if you don't brings up a good point.
New York pizza does live up to the hype. But
you know, we've traveled around the country, been to different
stadiums and arenas for sports, and you know, you travel enough,
you go to a city, you gotta try what they
are known for, and you gotta think what has lived
up to the hype in your mind?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Again, that's the key, what has lived up to hype?
And I'm about to say something that some people may
consider sack of religious But we're out here in Los
Angeles and there's no more hype than in and out Burger.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
I mean, you can go right in any time of
the day.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
There is a line like it's the field the dreams,
Like what is this line here?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Why is this? Why are all these cars lined up
for in and.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Out Burger, And when my daughter, my girlfriend like can
we get in and out? I'm like no, because I
know it's gonna be so packed, right, but you come
out here, everybody wants to go. And I'm not gonna
discredit the freshness of the burger. The price is treet,
but does it really live up to the hype? Is
it the greatest?
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I'm sorry not for me, but you know what that
would be like? That would be like justin Herbert saying,
just try.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
You've been here a.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Couple of years, you got you gotta have it. But
which are the ones that live up to the hype?
You could add at Coveno and Rich what comes to
my I give you one.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
We were in Kansas City for the Baseball All Star Game. Yep,
we had burnands. They have jack Stacks and Oklahoma and Joe's.
The Kansas City Barbecue lived up to the hype like
no other.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Quizzy.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Two important parts to the story. Number One, we got
there and we were greeted by George Brett. True story
came right up to us and he's like.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Hey, George Brett, have some burn INDs. And we're like, well,
I don't even know what that meant. Sometimes I think
that's a dream, but it's a true story. We were
in a.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
VIP area in the Royals I guess you would say
the sweet section. And George Brett, I guess his job
for All Star weekend was to greet people because he
was walking.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Around with part of the welcoming committee.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, he is Kansas City, right, you associate him with
that have some burn ins.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
We're like, don't mind if we do.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Later that night, we went to some local famous place
like jack Stacks, right, and it was one of the
first times I think I actually got a food high.
Like you hear food comas and things like. I felt
like I was floating down the streets as we walked
home because I hate like a euphoric state of of barbecue.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
I started to float.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
You know how kids are doing let's slick backs and
are floating around.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
You were floating around.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I was floating around, like I think I'm having a
food high right now. You know.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
It was insane.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Every time good every time we hit the Midwest and
go to Shytown. It's not New York pizza, but you
do have that deep dish. We've had the deep dish.
I know lou Malnatis is one of the places we've
been to this other places, but but.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
It lives up to it. It's not.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
In my mind, it's so different than a New York
pizza that I don't even put them in the same categories.
That's sort of like at what would you call it
a uh?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I call it a pizza casserole. Yeah, it sound like
a casserole. It's so good.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
And by the way, yeah, loom mal Natties, you can
actually order that. You don't have to go to Chicago.
You could order it and they send it frozen it
and it still hits more than.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
One or two slices of deep dish. You feel like
a piece of shit, like.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
You are, like what ammalle.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Keep in mind, we just talked about how pompous we
were about our East Coast pizza. We got to give
credit where it's due. Chicago's dope. I know, Detroit's known
for it. You know, we failed, we didn't get it
last time we were there. But Chicago hits. We can
tell you that much. So when you go to Philly,
you gotta run up the rocky stairs. Absolutely, you gotta
see the Liberty Bell, absolutely, and you gotta get a
(09:12):
cheese steak when we're in Wit. You know, you know
that you have to say that, right of course, if
you don't know that, then you're a bonehead. Whiz Wit
means that cheese whiz she's with now a spot.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
With onions, though you know it is with onions. I
remember one time Spot and I. I don't know if
he remembers this. I do.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Spot and I with our wives girlfriends at the time,
went on a little weekend trip to Atlantic City and
on the way back around like, let's cut through Philly
and we sampled a few different cheese steak places. I
don't even know if I have a favorite, but people
say Pats and Gino's and John's.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Then't have few famous ones. But you realize, though that
you can't. You don't cut through Philly. You actually have
to drive across the entire state to go to Philly.
The way we drove across the width of New Jersey
just to get Antic.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
City to just to try these tried cheese steaks and
all the Philly steaks you could eat Boys to Bend style.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
I mean, it really does mean it's part.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Of the cultures, the vibe, like you gotta go there,
and get yourself a cheese steak since that lyric in
ninety two.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, I've been craving some Philly cheese steaks now, something
I have only had one time back in schools to
dream about that. Every day I've heard that. Yeah, I
know you've never had this, and I'm not throwing you
under the bus, but I went to school upstate New York, Syracuse,
which is a good hour and a half from Buffalo.
But I've had buffalo wings in Buffalo, and for real,
(10:34):
chef's kiss, as they say, there's something a little special
about it.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
You get in Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
That's where they originated. Is that the anchor bars, the
big one Anchor Bar is one of them, Yeah, the originator.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
You know, I had family upstate New York. I'm not
sure I ever had buffalo wings from Buffalo though, so
are they next level dope?
Speaker 1 (10:53):
That would be like Josh Allen right now saying just
tried it. No, it's true, it's true. That's why the
sauce gardener things so to hit home. It's been in
New York two years and he just had a slice.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
And this is isn't making our list or anything like that.
But I have to throw it out there. I'm a
Jersey kid. You gotta have a Tailor Ham sangwich. You
gotta order sandwich, salt, pepper, ketchup, Taylor Ham and eggs.
People get the eggs and cheese too. That's fine. Some
people call it pork roll. Gotta get a tailor Ham sandwich.
Honorable mention.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
It's on that specific role too, on a causer roll.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, I'm gonna have a baseball card like it is.
Famous rivals. Taylor Ham versus pork Roll's the same thing.
We just call it different. Just I don't know how
it's not all over the country. I'm a New York kid.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
You go across the Hudson River to New Jersey and
it's like, what, why have you guys been hoarding the
tailor Ham.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Well, those are the mustaves that lived up to the
hype and uh susk.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Gardner, thanks for the fun.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Shout out to Sauce and all the Jets fans that
are that are just hanging to the hope of Aaron
Rodgers coming back.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Go have a slice and enjoy spice. So let's get
into our picks of the week. I'm gonna start with
a teaser.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Bet Now, I love this teaser bet because division rivalries
never when you got two good teams in the division rivalry.
So many times these are close games, especially on a
Thursday night, right Thursday night, these games are relatively close,
and you got a really good one this week. You
got the Bengals and the Ravens, so raven both teams
(12:18):
fighting in the toughest division in the National Football League.
That AFC North is the balls, that is that division.
I think all four teams could make the postseason, but
right now the Bengals the balls.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Is that new like slang? They got the balls? Yeah? No, cap,
you know got the Riz.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Damn Riches hitting people with the ribs, hitting people with
teenage lingo. The Bengals lost a heartbreaker to the Texans
last week, just when you thought the Bengals were gonna
go on like a five game.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Clip, they got caught up by C. J. Stroud. But
that game was good.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
The Bengals will not be blown out, which is why
I think they might even win the game. But they're
underdogs to the Ravens. And I'm doing this six and
a half point teaser and I'm taking the Bengals to
ten and a half.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
I love this bet.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
The Bengals plus ten and a half over thirty nine
and a half. So the Bengals just got to keep
it within single digits against the Ravens. I think the
Bengals could win the game. So I love the Bengals
plus ten and a half over thirty nine and a half.
I think Burrow and Lamar Jackson both put up some points.
So if that game's twenty seven to twenty one, twenty
(13:30):
seven to twenty four, you're a winner either way. So
close game over thirty nine and a half, All right,
lock that in.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
I love. I think that's a good one. And tonight,
I know it's last minute.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
If you're watching over Promise live on a Wednesday, Lakers
coming off a pretty nice win last night. They stay
home at Staple Center. I'll still call it Staple Center.
They're favored by one, and I like it one over Sacramento,
so let's lock that up.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
He's still call Stable Center. You don't want to talk
about crypto or actually no, my bitcoins looking pretty good
right now. Oh yeah, we'll talk about it. You haven't
talked about crypto in about a year that it's almost
forty grand again, maybe I should talk about it.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Maybe you should.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
But yeah, tonight, let's keep rolling with the Lakers. I
feel like they got something rolling, They got something going on.
So Lakers minus one straight bet. Sacramento is a good team.
But you know, when the points spread's low, why not
roll with the Lakers home game? So Lakers minus won
Lock that in with DraftKings and also the Bengals Joe
Burrow and crew keeping it close plus ten and a
(14:29):

us now. Every year there seems to be a feel
good story and we need that. Sometimes there's a lot
of crappy news, you know.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
That's why you know, I'll put a dollar in the jar.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
That's why I don't hate the Taylor Swift Travis Kelsey stuff,
because well, all your friends and family, why.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Don't you put a dollar in that stupid hat you're
wearing the biggest gosh an.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
I got my Pilgrim hat on, but I don't settle.
I like the Telorshoft Travis Kelsey stuff. As much as
people say, oh, I'm suker, that shit, what do you
rather talk about? Honestly, like, whatever's going on the news
is always sort of depressing, whether it's Ukraine or Israel
or I want to talk about Taylor Swift in Travis Kelsey,
it's light, it's nice, but there's someone that's taken over.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Well, yeah, I'm glad he brought that up, because Taylor
Swift was the NFL banner on social media.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Taylor's version, Yeah, Taylor's version.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Her picture was all over the place, and she's been
replaced by the new feel good story of the year
in sports. His name is Josh dumps Aria. Check him
out the pastronage. He's got a cool nickname. NASA's tweeting
at him, aerospace engineer. He's got the smarts. He's got
no eyebrows, but he's got the smarts, and he's getting
(17:55):
the love from the NFL. In fact, fans are shaving
their eyebrows in support. Yes, true story and solidarityader like yes,
because no one knew where that season was gonna go,
where was the team gonna end up?
Speaker 3 (18:09):
And now they're playing Well, I'll tell you what if
you're so involved in the story, and you're loving Dobs
so much? And can you know?
Speaker 1 (18:14):
And I will be at the Broncos Vikings game this week.
We're gonna be there, spot. I know you put this together.
I think you should roll with the Dobbs. Look, what
do you think.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Yeah, I shaved them earlier. They grew back already. Get
rid of those brows, bro. Well, you know the backstory
here is he had alopecia, still has alopeca, but he's
had it since he was a little kids and he
was like ten years old or something like that. So
he doesn't have eyebrows. So fans have decigned to shave
their eyebrows. They're talked about, show their love. They're pumped
(18:43):
about their new quarterback. He's a good dude, he's a
smart dude. Again, the story was, he's in the huddle,
calling plays to teammates he's never met before, didn't even
know their names, right, new to.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
His team, sideline, doing hard counts.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Yes, like just lining up with his center because he's like, yo,
we've never worked, we've never delivered a snap. And by
the way, just for the fun of it, look at
Josh Dobbs where he's been over the last five years, Can.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
I can you give me a second here? Sure?
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Steelers, Jags, back to the Steelers, Browns, Lions, Titans, back
to the Browns, Cardinals, Vikings. This is all since twenty seventeen.
The guy's been all around the world and aii.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
And you've been player Hayten. Actually we're loving we're embracing them.
The banner of the NFL banners in Dobbs we Trust.
So it's to feel good story for sure. How could
you root against this dude? Even if the Vikings aren't
your team, They're like, ah, that's kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
He found a spot, a place where it seems to work. Now,
so far, so far.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
A lot of times these things run out, but it
made us think of some of the great feel good
stories in recent history.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
And there it is.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Dobbs is even on the NFL's social media home pages.
And Dobbs we Trust.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
There's nothing wrong with that. Again, when there's so much
nonsense going on in the world, these are the things
you want to see, These are the things that are
fun to rally around. Yo.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Man, that's kind of cool, right, Hey, good for him.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Well, you talked earlier on over promise about your love
of that New York City slice of baits. Because we're
from the East coast, we can't not start with the
most obvious one, my love of pizza.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
No, the most.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Obvious one is you and I really feeling something in
New York City called Lynsanity. There was nothing like a
city rallying around. Now, wait, who's this guy? He's living
on his friend's couch, Jeremy Lynn. You know why because
people love the underdog story. Again, you talked about how
Dobbs bounced around. That's what makes it a feel good
(20:47):
story and relatable and shocking, and and you want to
get behind it. Every time I bring up Linsanity because
it was what two weeks of awesome. Every time I
bring it up, I have to tell everybody, Yo, it
was real.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
We were there. It was I know you've seen the highlights,
but it was really was electric.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
And you know all the people were gonna name on
this list of field good stories. The common denominator, which
I like is the magic may eventually run out. But
what happens is these guys embrace their moments so much
that they all sort of went on to have careers,
whether it be off the bench or a backup. They
embraced the moment so much so that it's like, Yo,
(21:28):
you found your place in the league, my man. You
might not be a starter, but you're in.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Like Jeremy Lynn, he was lighting up Kobe, he won
a championship. He did with the Raptors, Well, he didn't
play much. He's the one. He's a champion.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Look, he had a decent career and it's lightning in
a bottle against that little mix of underdog with lightning
in a bottle. Situations need to be perfect, certain things
had to happen for these moments to even occur. And
another one of those, Minshew comes to mind because again comes.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Out just like a smart plug.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
And it's more of his personality too, and his demeanor
and his mustache and his stupid headbands. Right, you're like,
all right, that's the guy I could rally around and
get behind.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
He was a feel good story for sure. And you
know last year Heineke.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
I mean, the guy's playing still in the NFL. Here's
a guy that had no business. I love it when
these guys have a quote no business being in the
league and then they get a chance. And you know,
I know we weren't planning on talking about him, But
how do you leave out my dude, brock Purty can't.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Leave him out? I mean, dude, you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Mister irrelevant to where where he is now and then
he seems to be back. He's definitely one of the
guys that come to mind.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Now.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
I know you're big on Austin Reeves as being that
guy because maybe because he's unassuming too.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
That's part of it.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
When you see an unassuming dude, even in fighting, you're
like that guy, that guy and he wins like like
an Andy Ruiz or something.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Anyone that was in the G League that gets gets
the nod to come up and then lights it up,
where other teams in the off season like, no, we
want him now and he's got game for sure.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
And I think because you think a Lakers, I think
Caruso had a little bit of that hype too.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Man.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Not a lot in common, but as far as they're
play but I think a feel good story because no
one expected it.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Sometimes that feel good story also revolves around coming back
from something tragic or something rough, like Alex Smith after
that horrific leg injury. Dude almost lost his leg, almost died.
He ends up playing in the NFL again, which is
like me inspiring. He couldn't even believe it.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
And you know, we see stories inspire and they give
you hope, and Alex Smith is a definite example of that.
You know, you saw him on the field three days
ago on Monday Night football, tomar Hamlin not getting a
lot of reps, but back in the game after dying
on the field and being brought back to life. So
these are great stories to rally around, the feel good
stories every year, this one or two and Dobbs is
(23:52):
the guy now. But another sentiment that we share where
everyone's like, yeah, that's a feel good story is when
that hometown kid gets called up. He's the hometown kid though,
And I think that's why we were rallying or hoping that.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Tom me the me to remind yourself, local kid, you
have to remind yourself. Nine out of ten times, these
feel good stories don't work out a llah, Tommy.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I mean, you know, we'll see what happens. You see
his dad they were liperating him in the stands. His
dad's like, what are you calling the play? Like even
his dad's like what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (24:29):
So it is always a nice moment though when you
see the hometown kid do his things, so hey, feel
good stories. What else comes to mind? Let us know,
Coveno and Rich hashtag over promised.
