We got eight games about to kick off around the
NFL Steelers at the Browns, which is, by the way,
the only match of this morning where both teams currently
have a winning record. We got the Bears at the Lions,
Chargers at the Packers, Raiders at the Dolphins, Giants at
the Commanders, Cowboys at the Panthers, Titans at the Jaguars,
(00:46):
Cardinals at the Texans. We're gonna have Rich join us shortly.
He might have been out late last night. He's doing
that Aztecs football and they are on the road against
San Jose, So we'll catch up with Rich shortly here.
But it's Week eleven in the NFL, and really the
big story going into this week is we just lost
two more quarterbacks. We just lost two more quarterbacks. We
(01:10):
were sitting here a week ago, Deshaun Watson and the
Cleveland Browns on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. We're
all prediction it's going to be an easy Ravens victory.
They jumped off to an early lead. Watson was terrible
in the first half, completing just six of twenty passes,
and then in the second half, all of a sudden,
the Deshaun Watson we remember from his Houston Texans days,
(01:34):
came back fourteen for fourteen in the second half. They
come from behind, they win the game, and then we
find out that he has a shoulder situation that will
take him out for the rest of the year after
a fourteen for fourteen second half. So just like that,
the Cleveland Browns, who again home today against the Steelers
(01:56):
City at six and three dtr my guy Drian Thompson
Robbinson and out of UCLA, the rookie is going to
get the start in that game. And then Thursday, we've
got the Bills and we got the Bengals. Now this
is on me because the Bengals are my preseason pick
to win the Super Bowl, which was the kiss of death.
But a couple of weeks ago when the Bengals beat
(02:17):
the forty nine Ers and really handle them easily, and
suddenly Joe Burrow looked like the Joe Burrell I expected
from the beginning. I'm getting excited, like, okay, now I'm there.
And then all of a sudden, he comes into this
game with the Bills and he's got a lame wrist
and he's out of the game, and they all he's
(02:38):
out for the season. So think about this. Now, we
lost Aaron Rodgers, we lost Kirk Cousins, we lost Deshaun Watson,
we lost Joe Burrow. Those are four big time quarterbacks
out for the year. So it's a lot of these
teams head into the stretch run. Now as we get
into you know, middle late November into December, some of
(02:58):
these teams in intention are going to have to do
so without their main quarterback. One of them again again,
the Browns and the Steelers, this is such an interesting matchup.
You look at these two teams. The Browns are six
and three, the Steelers is six and three, both right
now obviously in the playoff picture, and how are they
doing it? Honestly, when you look at the Browns, they've
(03:22):
done it with the ineffective Deshaun Watson for most of
the season, outside of that second half against the Ravens.
P J. Walker was in for a little bit, he
didn't play particularly well. Now dtr is back and we'll
see how the rookie does. They're doing it with their defense,
they're doing it with their running game, which is exactly
the formula the Steelers are working with right now. Which
(03:43):
is no surprise because Mike Tomlin, as I've said many times,
is by far the most underrated coach in the National
Football League. He does more with less than any coach
in this league can. He Pickett is ordinary, But the
one thing Kenny Pickett does well is not turn the
(04:05):
ball over. In nine games, he has four interceptions, and
he seems to play his best in the fourth quarter.
So that's a formula for success. So we'll see how
this game goes. Steelers at the Browns. Justin Fields is
back for the Bears on the road against the Lions. Chris,
I'm looking at your Lions today. We're watching this game.
(04:26):
One of our big screens right now. There's seven and two.
I think if you look at the power rankings in
the National Football League, actually the National Football Conference. Let's
just stay with the NFC right now. You have to
put the Eagles at number one, and you look at
the Lions at seven and two. I have them at
(04:47):
number two. Now, Joe Davi is going to be joining us.
He's going to preview that forty nine Ers Tampa game
that's coming up a little bit later on. The forty
nine Ers looked back last week. Absolutely they go into
Jacksonville and just blow the doors off the Jags. And
so I'm trying to think right now about the power
(05:08):
rankings in the NFC. And again, if the forty nine
Ers are the team I just saw against the Jags
based on what we saw earlier in the year when
they're five and old record, I'm not so sure the
forty nine Ers aren't still the team to beat in
the NFC. The Lions, to me, are still the Lions.
That division is not really testing them. The Packers, the Bears,
(05:30):
the Vikings obviously have become a store because of this
Joshua Dobbs situation. So I just I don't feel happen
like to see, oh, they're not out of it at
Dobbs place like he's doing right now. And I've always
been a Dobbs fan. You know he's one of those
guys us just give him an opportunity. I remember years
and years ago there was a perennial backup quarterback named
(05:50):
rich Gannon and he was with the Vikings and he
was with the Chiefs, and every time he played, he
seen to play well. I said, is anyone going to
give this guy an opportunity? And the Raiders roll the
dice and the next thing and O he's the most
valuable player. I don't know if that's gonna happen for Dodds.
So I do think the Vikings are in good hands,
but the Lions still have to get it done in
(06:12):
the postseason. I mean, that's where it counts, sure, but
we can't answer that until the postseason.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I think until the postseason, I think when it comes
down to the Lions, I think I have the forty
nine ers too. But I think it's a two to
two way situation. Ultimately comes down to what do you
like more in a team? Do you like a defense?
Because right now, Detroit's defense started the year very hot.
Through some injuries in their defensive backs have come back
down to earth, But I think they have the better
quarterback between Brock Perdy and Jared Goff, whereas the forty
(06:40):
nine ers are just dominating both sides of the ball.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Right now, By the way, the first score of the
day belongs to the Arizona Cardinals. So they bring Kyler
Murray back. They win last week and on this drive
he just threw a forty eight yard touchdown pass to
Rondale Moore. So the first score of the day belongs
to Arizona. They're on the road against the hot, unbelievable
Houston Texans, led of course by c J. Stroud, who,
(07:05):
in my opinion, isn't just the obvious rookie of the
year but very much in the conversation for league's MVP.
But this is what are the Arizona Cardinals doing here?
Remember the Arizona tank job. This is a tank job
to secure the number one overall pick in Caleb Williams.
Now we'll get to the whole Caleb Williams situation. After
(07:27):
a debacle again yesterday in USC ending the regular season
with the blow lots of their rival UCLA. But if
they start winning games, now what you're stuck with Kyler Murray? Well,
or is Kyler Murray steal the real deal.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I think there's nobody who doesn't want to lose his
job more than Kyler Murray. And if we've seen anything
from the Jonathan Gannon Cardinals, like they Jonathan Gann, if
they are tanking, Jonathan Gannon didn't get the memo and
he wants his his Cardinals to fight, And Tyler Murray
has a reason to fight pretty hard here too. So
I think as down as the Cardinals have been, they
(08:07):
still want to fight. They still want to go out
there compete, both from the coach and the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Look, they're they're going to play themselves right out of
that number one pick. Because I'll tell you one team
that really looks like they're zeroing in on that number
one pick, and that's the New England Patriots. I mean,
there is no worse team right now in the NFL
than New England Patriots, not even close.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Not the Giants.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Giants are getting there, but what are the Giants gonna do?
See this gets back and let's just touch upon Caleb
Williams for a moment here. So Caleb Williams came into
this season, and we even said that after last season
ended when he hoisted the Heisman Trophy, we knew he
wasn't eligible for the NFL Draft, but we said, why
(08:47):
even't play another year at USC? Why would you risk anything?
Because even if he had sat out the entire year,
he'd still be the overwhelming choice to be the number
one overall pick in the draft. We also speculated about
the fact that if the wrong team is holding that
number one pick, he still has another year of eligibility
(09:09):
and he'd come back for another year at USC. So
they go into this year at USC with a lot
of hype. You got the returning Heisman Trophy winner. They
fell apart at the end of last year, losing that
blowout lost to Utah in the Pac twelve Championship game
and that inexplicable late game collapse against Tulane in their
bowl game. But we thought, okay, yeah, Lincoln Riley, he's
(09:30):
a great coach, right, he'll figure it out. They'll improve
the defense. He got Caleb Williams. They started six to zero,
They finished seven and five, and by the way, the
only win they had down the stretch was a fifty
to forty nine win against Cal where Cal went for
a two point conversion instead of sending the game into overtime.
They could have lost all six, So the idea of
(09:53):
Caleb Williams opting to come back to USC that's off
the table. So he is now going to go to
whichever team is sitting there with the number one overall pick.
And again, the problem with these quarterbacks and why some
quarterbacks succeed and some don't more often than not, has
(10:17):
less to do about talent and more to do about
the system they run into. If you're Caleb Williams, do
you really want to be a New England Patriot right now?
I mean, is Mac Jones that bad? I mean two
years ago Mac Jones looked promising as a young quarterback.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Bo and I were having this conversation before the show,
and it's something I've echoed all season. Who is the
best talent on the Patriots? Like I look at the
skill positions at any position really, but especially like I
think for skill positions from Remondrous Matthews Slater on their
special teams. I mean, he's a ten time pro bowler.
(10:58):
I don't think the Giant. The Giant are pretty bad,
but they're also playing in the division like they're playing
the Commanders today. That is entire entirely feasibly winnable for them,
by the way, touchdown here in Detroit going to the Bears,
I missed scored that boat de foremanta.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Form, and I realized why you missed that because you're
in a fog right now. You can't believe that you
just saw the Bears go right down the field justin
fields three thirty eight yards on that opening drive. He
also ran for twenty eight yards. That's sixty six total
yards for justin fields on the opening drive.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
This is still the Lions defense that gave up five
straight touchdown drives in a row to the Chargers like
they're they're going through something right now, which is why
I think we put them down in the power rankings
underneath the forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
All right, So we're in search of rich Ornberger. We
hope he's okay. Has anybody heard from rich Nobody?
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Sounders are out. We're looking for rich.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Richard your Harry un Like. I don't know where he is.
I did. Did they have a problem last night on
the San Diego State flight back? Just say he was
coming back late. So I'm just so he comes back
late all the time, so he's had some really late
He came back from Hawaii one time. I mean that
was late late, So all right, we'll find out our
rich is in the meantime, we'll carry on as a team.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Now launches it deep middle of the field into the
end zone and an over their shoulder catch by Rondale
Moore for a touchdown. What a gorgeous throw by Kyler
Murray a forty eight yard strike.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
That's ninety eight seven FM, Arizona Sports Station. The Arizona Cardinals.
What are they doing? Supposed to be tanking but no,
They're off to an early seven to nothing lead on
the road against the Houston Texans. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio Steve Harbn rich Ornberger. We are live
from the tirakt Dom studios. Hey, shortly after the show,

off the air, We're going to get a preview of
the Bucks forty nine Ers game coming up with Joe
(14:26):
Davis at the bottom of the hour. Apparently we have
found rich Ormberger. We found rich Ornberger. He is in
a state of shock. He's been doing SANDYGA State football
for a number of years. The Aztecs have good teams.
They've been a bold team for many, many years. Not
happening this year. Brady Holk announcing his retirement. I love
(14:48):
that retirement. It'll be effective at the end of the year.
But they lost on the road last night to San
Jose State and they sit at three and eight right now,
So Rich might be in a state of shock. Whenever
we actually have Rich's voice on the air, we will
bring it to you. The Dallas Cowboys have just scored,
and this is a team that a lot of people
(15:10):
are jumping on the Cowboys bandwagon, and I'm saying slow down,
Slow down. Cowboys on the road against the hapless Carolina Panthers,
a team that now has the worst record in the NFL.
Keep in mind they don't have their number one pick,
they traded that away to the Chicago Bears. Dak Prescott
is off to a hot start right now, seven to
(15:32):
nine passing. He's threw a touchdown pass here to open
things up against Luke Shoemaker. So the Dallas Cowboys trying
to get to seven and three on the season. Keep
in mind, none of their victories this year are against
teams and winning records none zero. They're like the Miami Dolphins.
These two teams are a carbon copy of piling up wins.
(15:56):
And again, you got to beat the teams you're supposed
to beat. Although Dallas is responsible for Arizona's only victory
of the season, but I would be hesitant to suddenly say,
oh yeah, the Cowboys. They're not the Eagles, they're not
the Lions, they're not the forty nine ers at best.
(16:17):
At best, they're the fourth best team in the NFC.
So Dallas gets off to the early seven to nothing
lead on the road against a Carolina Panthers team that
is being held to the fire with the emergence of CJ. Stroud,
the second overall pick in the draft, running circles around
Bryce Young, who was taken number one overall by the Panthers.
(16:38):
I'm not gonna personally give up on Bryce Young quite yet.
That is a Carolina team that is void of talent.
I'm not the biggest Frank Reich fan as a head coach.
We'll see what he does with him, but it is
understandable that indeed the Carolina Panthers should be held accountable
for passing on CJ. Stroud and instead going with Bryce
(17:01):
Young and now here he is apparently comatose after another
San Diego State loss on the road against Well against
San Jose yesterday. That would be rich Ornberger. We were
worried about you, Richie.
Speaker 7 (17:15):
Oh, of course yes, and I apologize for the worry.
Speaker 8 (17:19):
I was in at five am last night getting home
from the trip from San Jose because we had technical
difficulties with a with a plane getting.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Back and that always fun.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
So push back the ETA a little bit there, but
glad to be on with the You're.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Okay, that's all we worry about, Richie. I mean, wow, wow,
So nothing better after a loss and all you want
to do is get home and you find out there's
problems with the plane. Yeah, I've been there.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
It's a blast. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Well, Richie, we are often running today. We mentioned we
got eight games going on in the NFL, and by
the way, the Cleveland Browns have just scored him. But
I have that right. The Browns have just scored to
take a six to nothing lead here against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jerome Ford getting in the end zone on a run
the rookie Dorian Thompson Robinson getting an opportunity to take
(18:13):
over after Deshaun Watson injured and out for the rest
of the season. Could you believe that story, Richie? We
sat here watching Deshaun Watson go fourteen for fourteen passing
in the second half and that come from behind win
against the Ravens on the road, no less, and then
we find out he did it with an injured shoulder
that needed surgery and he's out for the season.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
Unreal. Unreal is the exact way.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Look, that was a herculean performance performance from Deshaun Watson,
There's no question about it to basically put the team
on his back and get the job done as hurt
as he was. I mean, it leaves no doubt that
this guy cares, right, I think there was a point
in this season where there were people's backating. Okay, does
(19:01):
does Shaun Watson really care? Because remember there was all
that issue where he was medically cleared but he still
wasn't playing.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
So what exactly does that mean?
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Why is in Cleveland the Browns organization, you know, having
his back? I guess is the way I would describe it,
because it's a little strange to say that your quarterback
is medically cleared, but he's a healthy scratch while he
is still dealing with an injury. So that was a
bizarre if you're asking me mishandling of the situation. But now, yeah,
(19:32):
it gives rise to an opportunity for dtr to get
back out there after his injuries earlier this season took
him off the field to make way for PJ.
Speaker 7 (19:42):
Walker.
Speaker 8 (19:43):
And this is one of the most consequential games on
the dock at this weekend in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
This is a huge one against the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
All right, so is there a review on this play?
Why is there a delay here? I guess it looks
like you know it is all right? So Cleveland gets
the touchdown at early seven to nothing lead against the Steelers.
One game we have been watching, Rich is this Cardinals
game against the Texans, and all of a sudden, the
Texans are interesting because of the emergence of CJ. Stroud.
This is an interesting start to this game. So the
(20:13):
Cardinals score on their opening drive, Kyler Murray looking great,
Rondel Moore on the receiving end of a forty eight
yard touchdown. The Texans then drove down the field had
a fourth and two of the Arizona's fifteen yard line,
and they went for it and got stuffed. So they
turn it over on downs. Cardinals get a three and out.
Now the Texans have a third and six at the
(20:33):
Arizona twenty yard line. Oh cocky, right for the Texans.
I mean, come on, first quarter, he got you know,
fourth and two at the fifteen, take the field, go
you're down seven. They go for it and get stuffed
on a run play. I'm like, why wouldn't you put
the ball in the hands of CJ. Stroud? Doesn't make
any sense to me. But there is this air of
I don't know, confidence, cockiness right now with this Texans team,
(20:56):
and they've earned it right as of today they are
a playoff team.
Speaker 8 (21:01):
Well, this just means also that while the rest of
the world is talking about this offense, Demiko Ryans, he
trusts his defense because if you turn it over on downs, well,
then you're giving the ball right back of that spot
to the defense and they have to defend.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Well.
Speaker 8 (21:20):
I guess look, you're talking about defending still an eighty
five yard long field. And so if you look at
it from an analytical view, and I know we hate
to do that because there is some gut feeling that
needs to be involved in these coaching decisions. That's a
very long field and most of those drives will finish
with three points or no points. And he gambled right.
(21:41):
Demiko Ryans got it right because guess what. Three plays later,
they get the ball back and they're driving.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Dalton Schultz might have just scored the funniest touchdown you're
going to see. He was short of the end zone,
but he slid on his back into the end zone before.
Speaker 8 (21:53):
He got totally smokes a twenty yard touchdown pass from CJ.
Speaker 7 (21:58):
Stroud.
Speaker 8 (21:58):
As we speak, extra point is good for Madame and
Doola and the Texans tie it up.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Also Jacksonville after that embarrassing loss at home, blowout loss
of the forty nine ers at home against the Titans,
and we have a Trevor Lawrence to Calvin Ridley touchdown,
so the Jags up seven to nothing early in that game.
All right, on the other side, we're going to catch
up with Joe Davis get a little preview of that
Bucks forty nine ers game. But right now, let's find
out what is trending. A very relieved Moncey Belangos that
(22:26):
Rich is okay, yes, yes, I mean we had nothing.
Speaker 9 (22:29):
I mean, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 10 (22:30):
I was like, he's either sleeping or he's eating and distracted.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Yeah, one of the others.
Speaker 9 (22:36):
What I thought. I was not super worried, but I
am glad to hear you.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Okay, yeah, I didn't even know to literally, I'm like
starting the show. And then Chris is like, by the way,
I haven't heard anything from Rich, Like what, yeah.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
Well, I'm sorry to worry everybody. This this level of
alarm makes me feel very good.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
But at the same time, we're just happy. You're okay,
we are happy here.
Speaker 10 (22:59):
Okay, I hate this news I'm about to give you.
It didn't look good.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
Chargers playing against the Packers.
Speaker 10 (23:05):
They are currently scoreless, but Joey Bosa is questionable to
return with the foot injury and the video of him
being carted off he's crying towel over his head doesn't
look good Joey Bosa.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
So well, it is just it's ongoing with the Charge really.
Speaker 10 (23:22):
Though, like as I'm wearing my Chargers jersey, really though,
it's just unfortunate. So that's that's the situation going on
right now in green Bay the beginning.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
They did that.
Speaker 10 (23:33):
Just it just happened. Yes, you're right, Yes, Chargers up
three zero, thank you for that. Brown's up on the
Steelers early as well. Jerome Ford rushing touchdown seven zero
is the score.
Speaker 9 (23:42):
Late in the first quarter.
Speaker 10 (23:43):
Deonta Foreman with a rushing touchdown for the Bears. Jared
Goff did get picked already in the first quarter.
Speaker 9 (23:50):
Bears up seven zero, one minute to go in the first.
Speaker 10 (23:53):
Raiders beating the Dolphins by a field goal. Four minutes
to go in the first. Giants up on the Commanders. Okay,
so they scored to me to beato with a touchdown
to Saquon Barkley seven zero midway through the first. Cowboys
up on the Panthers seven zero. Late in the first,
Cardinals Texans tied at seven about five minutes to go
in the first.
Speaker 9 (24:11):
And yes, you mentioned that.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
Trevor Lawrence finding Calvin Ridley for the Jaguars up on
the Titan seven zero, two minutes to go in the first.
It's reported by ESPN that the Jets are expected to
pursue a trade for Davante Adams this offseason in hopes
of reuniting him with Aaron Rodgers, and the NFL Network
is reporting that Aaron Rodgers is.
Speaker 9 (24:28):
Eyeing a December return. Around week sixteen be the most
likely spot. I can't get over this story. This is
a movie.
Speaker 11 (24:38):
It's a movie in the making.
Speaker 9 (24:40):
I can't make it doesn't make sense. But it's gonna
be a movie. There's no way.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
It's not why you perpetuate a story to you know,
you got to stay in the news.
Speaker 9 (24:49):
Right is that it can't be it?
Speaker 8 (24:51):
This would be this would be Christmas Eve against the
commanders for the Jets, and so it would be I mean,
it would It sounds like a Disney movie.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
It absolutely does.
Speaker 9 (25:04):
No, it's happening. I guarantee you, guarantee you. Also, Aaron
Nola has a lot of money.
Speaker 10 (25:08):
He and the Phillies have agreed on a seven year,
one hundred and seventy two million dollar contract.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
That's it. That's a lot of money. That's a lot
of money for starting pitcher. The guys, you know, go
five innings, six innings at the tops is I have
no understanding of the economics of baseball. It makes absolutely
no sense to me. All right, moncie, we'll check in

By the way, Tommy DeVito is on fire. Yeah, six
of seven eighty six yards. That's scoring past the Saquon Barkley.
It's a good thing that Saquon Barkley can catch the
(25:55):
ball because running the ball, he's got three carries for
negative four yards. Yeah, that's the Giants running games.
Speaker 7 (26:02):
Start running the football for Sakuon.
Speaker 8 (26:04):
But Tommy DeVito, man, he's got a belly full of
mama's chicken cutlets and right now he's carving up the
commanders in Washington who got the ball back, and now
they're putting together or drive themselves. They're already on the
Giant side of the field at the thirty four and
a fresh set of down. So yeah, this game highly
inconsequential if we're going to look at the full docket
(26:26):
and discuss I mean, this is a two and eight
Giants team. Wildly underperforming what we thought that they would
be this season, and with injuries as well. This is
a commander's team that's off to a four and six record.
I think we all kind of expected that, but yeah,
I'm shocked how badly it's gone for the Giants after
how well it looked or how good it looked last year.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
All right, let's get a preview of the upcoming game
between the Bucks and the forty nine Ers. Now it's
time for the NFL out fucks focus handling the play
by player of that game for Fox. Joe Davis joins
us right now. Joy, we appreciate the time. And you know, Joe,
(27:10):
we talk about this forty nine er team in that
five and zero start, and we were speculating, like, man, god,
they were on the table. I mean, they are so dominant,
maybe they go undefeated. Next thing, you know, they lose
three in a row, they had a rash of injuries
to go on the bye week. They come back on
the road against the Jags team that had won five
in a row, and they blow them off the field. So, Joe,
(27:32):
when you look at the forty nine ers, are they back?
Are they now once again the team to beat in
the NFC.
Speaker 12 (27:40):
Yeah, they they're definitely one of them guys. And it
is crazy how fast that shifts. Right, they finish off
the five game winning streak by beating the Cowboys like
one hundred to nothing, and it's like, nobody's gonna beat
these guys. And then three games later, what's wrong with
the forty nine ers? And then they go in there
and do what they did to the Jags, and yeah,
it feels like they're right back there. Like you guys said,
(28:01):
healthy again, you know, getting Trent Williams, getting Deebo Samuel
back and the domino effect from that for their offense,
they again look like a Super Bowl favorite.
Speaker 8 (28:12):
So Brock Perdy, I mean, we're almost back to where
we started. Was Week fourteen against the Bucks where he
got his start last season, and here we are he's
facing the Buccaneers. Let's talk about it, right, almost a
year's time since he's taken over as the starting quarterback.
What do you think of that evolution of Brock Purdy
from that first game up until now watching him today
(28:34):
take on the Buccaneers again.
Speaker 12 (28:36):
Yeah, I think it's an interesting day to look at
Rock Perdy and what he's done, because it is seventeen
starts now that he's made, when you include his playoff starts,
he got the equivalent of a full season, and across
the board he's among the best quarterbacks in football in
that time. So it's gone from hey, this kid's better
than you would think the last pick of the draft
(28:56):
would be and maybe gives the forty nine ers a
chance to after a full season it starts. He's got
the number one quarterback rating of anybody in the NFL.
So amazing what he's done. And as you guys know,
it's defining for this franchise at this point that they've
been able to, you know, with a super Bowl caliber
defense for years, with playmakers for years, but a question
(29:20):
market quarterback really for years. They've found it with such
an unlikely character and it's allowed them to build the
roster the way that it is now and is going
to lay the foundation for the way they build it
moving forward.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
All right, let's talk about Tampa for a moment here.
So Brady finally retires, retires, and you bring in Baker Mayfield.
No one expects anything out of Mayfield other than he'll
just fill a seat until they figure out what they're
going to do. With their future at the quarterback spot.
And I'm looking at the numbers here Joe sixty five
percent completion rate, thoirteen touchdowns, only five picks. In fact,
(29:55):
in four road games, he has nine touchdown passes and
only one inner perception. Is there a sense that Tampa
feels like Baker Mayfield is going to be their quarterback
moving forward or is this still just a one year
deal with him?
Speaker 7 (30:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (30:12):
I don't know. We've not necessarily gotten to the bottom
of that. But what I will say is I think
he's having a much better year. And you gave some
of the details there, then he's given credit. Then he's
getting credit for it, or at least that I think
people realize. So yeah, I mean, look, it's all colored
by the fact that he's the first stick of the draft, right,
(30:34):
and he's like that's always going to be attached to him.
But if you remove that and just say, hey, here's
you know, do you do one of those blind resume things,
here's the season this quarterback's having, I think you'd look
at that and you'd say, well, dang, that's a pretty
darn good season. We put the name Baker Mayfield on it,
and that brings everything that it does that colors in.
(30:55):
But look, he's having a really good year and I
think he's the biggest reason at this point that the
Buccaneers that with the self being what it is, but
that they're in the position they.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
Are, no question about it.
Speaker 8 (31:07):
Hey, when you look at this this game in a vacuum.
Even though the Bugs have a really great offensive line
or I should say very talented offensive line, they've kept
Baker clean for the majority of the season.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
How the heck do you stop this Niners pass rush?
Speaker 13 (31:22):
Now?
Speaker 12 (31:23):
It's tough, isn't it. It was amazing for me before
they got Chase Young last week that they weren't racking
up sacks at a higher level just because they already
had had a murderer's role of guys there. Now that
you had Chase Young into the equation and we saw
it in Jacksonville, right, it's scary. And yeah, the offensive
(31:43):
line for Tampa Bay has been good pass protecting, but
this is going to be a beast of the defense
that they're going to face, and I think extra scary
after seeing what they look like with Chase Young.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, and I would I'm going to make a prediction
myself here Joe. I know that last week Christian McCaffery
streak of seventeen consecutive game scoring a touchdown was snapped.
I'm going to bet the bank he starts a new
streak today. What do you think.
Speaker 12 (32:09):
I like it. I like it. It's funny. I don't
know if you guys heard his comments after last week
he said, yeah, I think everybody else sort of touchdown
except me. I think so, but I think he's due
one week off.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
I think it's a safe bet out there. Well, Joe
will be watching today. Forty nine Ers prohibitive favorite against
the Bucks, but again, Baker Mayfield's played very well on
the road this year. Hopefully it'll be a tight game
and we'll be watching.
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Joe.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Thanks so much for your time.
Speaker 12 (32:36):
Okay, guys, you got it.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
That's Joe Davis, play by play guy for Fox, will
be doing that Bucks forty nine Ers game. And yeah,
I mean when you look at the forty nine Ers
and their blowout win against Jacksonville and everyone was back
on board, Deebo, Samuel was back, McCaffrey, Kittle had a
big game. Ayuk obviously has been a main target all
season long for Brock Party. It's hard, you know, with
(33:00):
the Eagles and the Lions and the MiGs, and some
people want to push the Cowboys into the mix. I'm
not there with the Cowboys yet. I still look at
the forty nine ers as the best team in the NFC.
Speaker 8 (33:10):
Yeah, I agree with you, you know, because the Eagles
it sort of feels like they've been skating by by
the skin of their teeth and a lot of these matchups.
And I know, style points don't matter and pro football.
It matters in college football how much, how like how
wide of a margin you beat these teams by, But
it matters when you're comparing teams in terms of power rankings.
(33:32):
Like when we say who giving the eyeball text, who
looks the best, Well, I mean it's the Niners. They
went through a rough stretch there with all those injuries.
Brock Purdy came down to earth a little bit, and
the offense looked wobbly at times. But now that they
have all their horses back in the stable and you
got a new face on that defensive line with Chase Young,
(33:55):
Who's going to stop the Niners? The answer is probably
knowing if they continue to stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
By the way, an emerging story in the NFL, little
under the radar are the Raiders. So this way, Antonio Pierces,
the head coach of the Raiders this year, has as
many wins as Bill Belichick. He has two. And right
now the Vegas Raiders on the road cross country against
the Dolphins are leading by a score of ten to seven,
(34:21):
eight and O'Connell nine to ten, passing one hundred and
five yards, and he just threw a touchdown pass to
Devonte Adams who already has five catches with five targets
in this game. We are seeing a complete reversal of
fortune for this Raiders team that was given up for dead.
They made the change. There was a lot of heat
(34:43):
on Mark Davis because he's going to have to swallow
a lot of money, but at least early on, this
is a completely different Raiders team we're seeing on the field.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
Rich, Yeah, you got to give credit to these players
for having the intestinal four or two to go through.
They went through and respond the way they have. I
felt the same way when Gruden had to resign and
Rich Bisaccia took over. It was an incredible resurgence. Rich
Bisaccia led a team that was kind of left for dead.
(35:15):
Around the same point in the season to the postseason,
and they took the Cincinnati Bengals all the way to
the final play of that game. If you remember. So,
I look at this Raiders team and I say watch out.
Do not count them out, because there's a lot of
guys on this football team who were there when Gruden left.
Bisaccia took over and helped lead that season into the postseason.
(35:37):
I'm not saying the same thing's gonna happen, but lightning
ken strike in the same place. That's an old wives tale,
that's an urban legend, that's a myth.
Speaker 7 (35:45):
It can happen again.
Speaker 8 (35:46):
And Antonio pears he's got these guys playing motivated football.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
I have to ask Chris, our resident Lions fan, what
the hell is going on with the Lions right now?
Not sure what's going on in jerij.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Who picks on his last that first one, There was
definitely some PI that probably could have been called there
if you really want to pick on it. But no,
you gone from a game where Jared against the Chargers,
now where Jared Goff looked phenomenal to a really rocky
start here.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Well, I blame you. You were at that last game
he's expecting you and attendance. And now he throws the
right to the Bears. So two picks already.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
And I praise for Jared praised Jared Goff last Sunday,
and I'm like, whatever questions I have, they're over.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
And now he throws two consecutive picks. He's trying to
be a Hartman kiss.
Speaker 7 (36:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
As soon as you say something positive, it goes the
other way. All right, We've got eight games going on
right now. For the scores, the stats, everything you need.
This is the place to be. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio first and ten O'Connor's gonna pass Settle
taking a shot keep down the field for out of
him and he.
Speaker 8 (36:49):
Catches it at the five and strive who looks in touchdown?
Speaker 11 (36:53):
Writers, We have the one second left to.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
The first quarterclock.
Speaker 11 (36:58):
Hey to O'Connor, at least is a ball.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Have the Raiders go up nine to seven, Hondavante's first
touchdown since Week three. That's Raider Nation Radio nine twenty
a and the Raiders lead on the road against the
Miami Dolphins by a score of ten to seven. And yes,
Ada and O'Connell is on five for the Raiders. Right now,
Antonio Pierce may never lose a game as a head coach.
(37:22):
He is undefeated right now at two and oh, this
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio Steve Harbn, Rich Ornberger.
We are live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
I want to interject something for just a moment here
about my partner here, Rich Ormberger. So, now, my career
in this business has been known to work constantly. You know,
I work, you know, seven days a week of radio,
(37:44):
do television, everything else. But Rich is maintaining an incredible
schedule right now. I mean during the football season, you
are working constantly. So you're doing seven days a week
of radio, you know, mornings six days a week, and
then this, you know a little later in the morning
show on Sundays, you're obviously doing your analyst work for
(38:05):
San Diego State football. And then I keep turning on
Colin and there you are, like you're like you're a
regular on his show, like you're his number one guy.
And so I know that, you know, I've been sort
of part of Rich's process since the very beginning of
his broadcast career. I'm very proud of you. You're doing
unbelievable but you know from someone that did this kind
(38:28):
of schedule for years, how's it working for you? Well?
Speaker 8 (38:31):
I love it and and you know, I caught the
bug broadcasting as soon as my playing career ended, and
I haven't looked back. And you have to also remember,
like you know how sometimes in football you'll say, oh, well,
this guy he was brought up in that Andy Reid
system or all this guy he was brought in that
Patriot system. Like you're brought up by a head coach
(38:52):
in some ways, and you take a little bit of
whatever they taught you with you. Well, who was I
brought up by in the broadcasting And none other than
Steve Hartman. So seven days a week on air, you know,
intoxicated by.
Speaker 7 (39:06):
His own voice, Like that's that's, uh, there's a little
bit of Hartman in me. That's I think there's.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Having a Hartman in you.
Speaker 7 (39:13):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
By the way, CJ. Stroud continues to just marvel another
touchdown for the Texans. They lead the Cardinals fourteen to ten.
He's ten at fourteen, one hundred and forty two yards
and a touchdown. By the way, Devin Singletary is coming
on strong at that running back spot for the Texans.
It always helps a running back when you have a
really effective quarterback throwing the football. Singletary already has sixty
(39:34):
four yards on the ground. He has a touchdown run.
Yesterday Adam Kaplan joined us. He was a little hesitant.
I said, Adam, I told you this last week. I'm
going to tell you again. Forget rookie of the year
c J. Stroud, MVP, who is more valuable to his team.
And even Adam Kaplan, who's not an easy guy to
turn around, admitted he's in the conversation one hundred percent,
(39:58):
especially if the Texans can overtake the Jaguars and then
win that division or at the very least get in
as a wild card. Who could have predicted that from
these Texans, but right now they're leading Arizona fourteen to ten.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Yeah, the answer is nobody.
Speaker 8 (40:13):
This roster who a lot of people are starting to
give credit to saying things like, well, it's a very
talented roster around c J.
Speaker 7 (40:19):
Stroud, who was willing to say that in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
Nobody.
Speaker 14 (40:23):
C J.
Speaker 8 (40:24):
Stroud is going to have success because that roster CJ.
Stroud is making everything look better in Houston. No team
has been more valuable to its franchise so far this season,
c J. Stroud deserves not only to be in them
VP conversation, but in my opinion, he's leading them VP
race again.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Who is more valuable to his team? This is not
to say that you know, Patrick Mahomes or brock Perty
or any quarterback that's having big numbers isn't deserving, But
are they more valuable than c J. Stroud is. So
that you said Texans, he's changed that whole franchise around.
All right, we continue on. We're heading toward halftime. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 11 (41:05):
Second in goal from the two golf turns.
Speaker 7 (41:07):
Gives to Gibbs.
Speaker 11 (41:08):
Pitch es Stuft trying to get the angle left side
to the end zone. Touchdown Detroit Lions. Samir Gibbs with
a speed they could not catch him, and the Lions
are on the board for the.
Speaker 7 (41:18):
First time today.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
That's ninety seven point one that ticket Lions Radio network.
Lions and Bears tied at seven. We got four and
a half minutes to go in the first half of
that game. This is Fox Sports a Red Zone Radio.
Steve Harvin rich Ornberger with here. We're broadcasting live from
the tire rack dot com. Studios tire rack dot Com're
gonna help get you there. An unmatched selection, fast reshipping
free road has a protection over ten thousand recommend an installers.
(41:44):
Tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
The Green Bay Packers just missed a field goal attempt
from fifty two yards win him close, and the Chargers
still lead the Packers by a score of ten to seven.
You know the Chargers rich, You know, they're just a
mystery team. They find ways to lose games they have
a chance to win. Remember they're opening loss to the Dolphins.
(42:07):
Last week against the Lions, they're sitting at four and five.
You look at their schedule, it's in their favor and
you have a road game today against a Packers team
that is not good. It's not a good team, the
Green Bay Packers. It's a game that do Chargers not
only should win, they need to win. They're leading ten
to seven. I know Brandon Staley gets a lot of heat,
(42:29):
I think deservedly. So you know my feelings about Brandon
Staley as a head coach. But you know this Chargers team.
You're a member of this organization for the few Charger
fans that do exist, including my younger son. Explain why,
in your opinion, this team just seems to not fully
(42:50):
realize their potential.
Speaker 8 (42:53):
Well, look, it's part of it is bad luck, and
I know nobody likes to hear that, but there's never
been a more snake bitten franchise, in my opinion, in
the history of sports over the last twenty years. And
I guess you could make an argument for the Cleveland
Browns or some of the other lovable losers around the NFL,
around pro sports, but the Chargers.
Speaker 7 (43:16):
It's a comedy of errors.
Speaker 8 (43:18):
You know, it's either bad coaching decisions or untimely mistakes
with your great players like Philip Rivers. For many years,
you know, the common refrain was he's great all the
way until it's a moment where they need to come
from behind and they're trailing by three in the fourth quarter,
and he might throw an interception, which, by the way,
(43:38):
I never had a huge problem with. But I digress
from that to just discuss the coaching in its current
form with another great quarterback statistically like Justin Herbert, and
we're doing the same thing all over again with Brandon
Staley and Justin Herbert you know, there are games where
he has hiccups.
Speaker 7 (43:56):
There's no question about it.
Speaker 8 (43:57):
He's been banged up, but he's a warrior and he's
played through a lot of that stuff. Brandon Staley, I
think is a poor head coach. I think the proof
is in the results. You have a quarterback like Justin
Herbert and you're not able to capitalize with a roster
that looks like his roster. Yeah, there have been injuries,
and that is an excuse and a legitimate one, and
(44:18):
yet there have been some times where I think that
misfortune has followed this team, but also there have been
situations in games where his decision making has harmed the team. So,
if you're a good football coach, you will sometimes win
your team games. If you're a bad football coach, you
will sometimes lose your team games. And that's when you
(44:41):
get into the conversation about the Josh McDaniels and the
Matt Patricians, and not to pick on former Patriots assistants,
but the urban Myers of the world, where they're just
not doing a good job with the players they have.
Speaker 7 (44:54):
And that's the current situation happening in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Speaking of wasting quarterbacks. So yes esterday, my UCLA Bruins
throttled USC. USC ends up losing five of the last
six games. Remember, the only game they won was that
one point victory against Cal when Kal decided to go
for two instead of kicking the extra point to go
to overtime. And I'm listening to the USC Trojan's postgame show.
(45:17):
They have former player on that show and he said this,
we just wasted Caleb Williams. We wasted him. We had
we had the greatest quarterback talent ever, better than Carson Palmer,
better than Matt Lioner. This was the greatest quarterback talent
USC has ever had in uniform, and we wasted him. Now,
(45:43):
we've been speculating all season long that the option for
Caleb Williams, if the team sitting at number one overall
is not a desirable team, he could opt back to
go to USC. I think that's off the table. By
the way, he did not address the media after that loss,
and I one hundred percent assure you that was his
last game in a USC uniform. Whatever insignificant bowl game
(46:05):
they're voted to, he will not play in that game.
So that being said, and the disappointment, the catastrophic collapse
under a vastly overrated link of Riley this year. Does
this have any impact you think moving forward on Caleb
Williams at all.
Speaker 8 (46:24):
Look, yeah, your resume is your resume, and you will
be judged for whatever you put on film, and he
put a lot of good things on film. And I
think you could argue the only reason why USC had
a pulse at all this season because of how bad
their defense was historically bad in terms of USC, that's
(46:46):
the only reason why they even had a chance. So
Caleb Williams will be judged for his game tape and
the mistakes that he made this season, and there were some,
but overall, this is one of the brightest talents we've
ever seen in college football, and we have no idea
what that's going to mean at the next level.
Speaker 7 (47:03):
But if you hear this.
Speaker 8 (47:04):
Guy talk, if you hear how cerebral he is, if
you hear him discuss football, which we've had on occasions
and obviously is a very high profile talent, he gets it.
So I'm really rooting for him. I really hope he
does work out at the next level. I think that
only makes the game stronger and better. And I also
hope that he lands with a system that is willing
(47:26):
to accommodate his specific talents and his traits as a quarterback,
because we've.
Speaker 7 (47:32):
Seen that before. We just talked about Urban Meyer.
Speaker 8 (47:35):
Well, Trevor Lawrence is undoubtedly a talented quarterback at this level,
but we saw what happens when you're not paired with
a good coach at the next level.
Speaker 7 (47:44):
It can go really sideways.
Speaker 8 (47:45):
So my sincere hope for Caleb Williams is that he
gets paired with a offensive coordinator, head coach pairing who
knows how to use him at the next level and
he can wash off the stink of this season at
USC because this absolutely stunk for the Trojans.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
It was unbelievable. I mean really was. And I've made
this comparison so many times. Lincoln writer to Cliff Kingsbury,
imagine this. Cliff Kingsbury was the coach of Patrick Mahomes
in college and Texas Stek had a losing record with Mahomes.
Speaker 8 (48:15):
Well, Cliff Kingsbury was on that staff all season long
as an offensive analyst, so was a part of this
staff too.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
So you know, there's a lot of parallels there. But
Patrick Mahomes had a losing record as a starting quarterback
in college. How's he doing now? He's at the top
of the mountain, all right? How about this? The New
York Giants have taken a fourteen to three lead on
the road against the Washington Commanders, and Tommy DeVito is
(48:41):
heading to the Hall of Fame. He's thirteen of seventeen,
one hundred and eighty four yards, two touchdown passes, no picks.
By the way, the Giants on the ground in this
game have negative one yards rushing, So Tommy DeVito is
doing it all touchdown passes a Saquon Barkie Barkley and
and Darius Slayton. And I don't know if the Giants
(49:04):
are thinking too much right now, but at least for
a half, Tommy DeVito has been on fire.
Speaker 8 (49:12):
Well, a lot of quarterbacks, a lot of young quarterbacks,
backups are making the most of their opportunities here as
they've have. They maybe inspired each other. But look at
what's happened with Joshua Dobbs this season. You know, look
what's happening with Aiden O'Connell in Las Vegas this year.
You know, there have been numerous examples. A Tyson Bagent
(49:33):
with the Bears trying to keep the wheels on while
fields went away. I mean, very different situation for the Bears,
but similar situation for the New York Giants because it's
a two and eight football team. So Tommy DeVito, he's
going to get a good long look at quarterback for
this franchise, at least until I guess to Rod Taylor
gets healthy. I would assume they would put him back
(49:55):
out there. But so far, so good.
Speaker 1 (49:57):
Today two teams came in I'm in to today with
identical six and three wrecords, very much in the playoff
Chase Pittsburgh at the Browns. We just got to the
two minute warning in the first half. This game is uh,
this is a rock for Dorian Thompson Robinson, the rookie
out of UCLA taking over for the enter Deshaun Watson
has been effective, nothing overwhelming eight of eleven sixty five yards,
(50:21):
no touchdowns, no picks. Kenny Pickett is five for eight
for thirty four yards. He's been sacked twice for nineteen yards.
That means that the Steelers have fifteen net yards passing
and they're still in this game. And that's that's the
story every week with the Pittsburgh Steelers. No coach does
(50:45):
more with less than Mike Tomlin. I mean, I don't
know how they're doing it. How this team is six
and three. Kenny Pickett doesn't do anything great other than
not turn the ball over. He's really good doing that.
Speaker 8 (51:01):
Yeah, well, if he does start turning the ball over,
he knows he'll lose his job because he's not playing
like a starter in this league. And I don't think
they're expecting him to play like a starter in this league.
So the only thing that a backup is expected not
to do is turn the football over. You know, just
keep the wheels on. Be a game manager. Let our
(51:23):
defense do its work, let our run game do its work.
You just connect with receivers when play action gives you
some present some opportunities for us, and you make sure
you connect when you have those opportunities, and we'll be
all right.
Speaker 7 (51:36):
Well, guess what following that script.
Speaker 8 (51:39):
This is a six and three football team, and the
Pittsburgh Steelers have a real shot of making the postseason
if they can keep the wheels on.
Speaker 7 (51:45):
So cany Pickett.
Speaker 8 (51:47):
I know it's not pretty, it's not even close to pretty,
but he's the best option that the Steelers have right now,
and the trade deadline is coming past. I mean we're
into Thanksgiving time here, boys and girls. So that's going
to be Kenny Pikett the rest of the way, all.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
Right, A quarterback that does have some pretty numbers going
on right now, that would be two a tongue Bylowa
of the Dolphins. They lead the Raiders fourteen to ten
a little over two minutes ago in the first half
to seventeen of nineteen one hundred and sixty five yards,
two touchdowns and no picks. Now aight, O'Connell the rookie
is doing very well for Vegas right now, ten to
twelve hundred and three yards and a touchdown passed the
(52:24):
Devonte Adams. So the Raiders hanging in there, but the
Dolphins six and three overall. Remember the teams they have
beaten this year, rich are literally the dregs of the league.
They beat the Chargers in that opening game, a game
that really they could have lost easily. Their other wins
were against the Patriots, the Broncos, the Giants, the Panthers,
(52:46):
and then the Patriots. Again. Yeah, that's really a who's
who of what's not. They got blown out in Buffalo.
They lost blowout loss at the Eagles. They lost a
competitive game against the Chiefs last week. But yeah, to me,
the Dolphins and the Cowboys are in the same boat.
(53:06):
The records are a deception. I just don't put them
in the Super Bowl conversation either one of those teams.
Speaker 8 (53:14):
Well, here's the strange thing about the Dolphins. As good
as they've looked offensively all season long, at times, I
really I look at the rest of their schedule and
I see some tough defenses coming up. They got to
play the Jets twice, They got to play the Commanders,
who have been able to hang with everybody they've faced,
(53:35):
basically like the Ravens at the Ravens. They got to
face the Cowboys. They're hosting them the Bills. Look, when
Josh Allen wakes up on the right side of the bed,
he's still a really great quarterback.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
It's just I'm losing that memory of him being a
great quarterback.
Speaker 7 (53:52):
I think we all are.
Speaker 8 (53:53):
But you get my point there, there are fits and
starts with Josh Allen and that Bill's offense, and so
a corner scared animal can still harm you. And if
the Buffalo Bills can put together any sort of continuity offensively.
Speaker 7 (54:08):
That's the final game of the season.
Speaker 8 (54:10):
I mean that could have real playoff ramifications for the
Bills and the Dolphins, both on the U in Week
eighteen of the NFL season. So yeah, like you said,
this upcoming schedule for the Dolphins, it's it's treacherous. They
need this win against the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
All right, we're about to reach halftime for eight games
around the NFL. For all the latest, keep it here.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 13 (54:33):
Third out and ten from the eleven yard line of
the Raiders. Flitt's covering gets it.
Speaker 3 (54:39):
All if he's got touchdown?
Speaker 11 (54:41):
Alliot, what a crazy bloom?
Speaker 7 (54:43):
Did call? Looking out? Why come back?
Speaker 5 (54:45):
Armit steaks out, gets back inside and he is wide open.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
That's Fox Sports nine to forty eight Dolphins Radio Network.
Dolphins lead the Raiders by a score of fourteen to ten.
We got a minute to go in the first half
and that game in this in Fox Sports a red
Zone or radio. Steve hartin Rich Ornberger, we alive from
the Tyrerock dot com studios. All right, here's a rundown
of the eight games going on right now in the NFL.
Most of these games now at the half. Browns lead
(55:12):
the Steelers ten to nothing. At the half. Lions have
woken up and they lead the Bears fourteen to ten.
At the half. Chargers and Packers. Chargers leading the Packers
ten to seven. There's forty seconds on the half, but
the Packers have a first down at the Chargers twelve
yard line. We just mentioned. The Dolphins lead the Raiders
(55:33):
fourteen to ten, a minute to go in the half.
Commanders trailing the Giants fourteen to three. Minute and a
half left in the half, but the Commanders have a
second goal at the Giants eight yard line. The Dallas
Cowboys have just scored again on a Dak Prescott pass
a Ceedee Lamb about to kick the extra point. They
lead the Panthers sixteen to three. Jaguars all over the
(55:54):
Titans thirteen to nothing, fourteen to seconds to go in
the half, and the Houston Texas leading the Cardinals seconds
to go on the first half, I score of twenty
one to ten. CJ. Stroud Rich has two hundred and
fifty nine yards passing in the first half of that game.
Speaker 8 (56:12):
Yeah yeah, Please for those in the back of the
room who aren't paying attention, CJ. Stroud is this year's MVP.
Just get comfortable saying it, Get comfortable hearing it. It's
okay for a rookie to win this award.
Speaker 7 (56:27):
I know, I know.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
Jim Brown did it nineteen fifty seven. So ironically, the
first time they ever gave out the Associated Press Most
Valuable Player Award was nineteen fifty seven and the winner
was a rookie by the name of Jim Brown.
Speaker 7 (56:44):
Yeah, for.
Speaker 8 (56:46):
Those who don't believe that the Texans can make a
postseason birth, you're just not paying attention, Like you're just
not paying attention to what CJ. Stroud has done this
season for this team. This has been nothing short of remarkable.
Because again, you're gonna hear it. There's gonna be a
lot of people who a lie to you and say, hey, yeah,
you know you look around this Texans roster and they
(57:08):
got some talent. Legitimately, nobody was saying that this offseason.
Nobody was lauding the Texans organization for building such a
strong team and they were just missing that quarterback piece.
Give me a break. The Texans are elevated from the
play of one man and one man alone. After a
four win season in twenty twenty, followed by a four
(57:30):
wins season in twenty twenty one, followed by a three
win season last year. They are now five and four
and looking to be six and four if they get
the win today against the Cardinals, and it's.
Speaker 7 (57:40):
All due to c. J. Stroud's marvelous play at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
All Right, we are watching the Packers Chargers game. There's
a there's an injury apparently on the field that has
delayed this game. The Packers trailing the Chargers ten to seven.
There's thirty four seconds to go on the half, and
the Packers have a first down at the Chargers twelve
yard line. I didn't see the injury here.
Speaker 8 (58:08):
I'm looking when available. Joey Bosa already out of this game.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Yeah, the Chargers just unbelievable, by the way, very quickly here.
Yesterday I was doing the show with Carry Rhodes and
we just turned on the Florida State game at the
worst possible time and the Jordan Travis injury and it
was one of those we watched it in real time
(58:33):
and it looked routine. A little scramble play and he goes,
he gets tackled and his leg gets twisted up and
all of a sudden they go the shot and the
leg is going in the wrong direction, and they quickly,
you know, wisely got off the shot and I'm looking
at you know, we got two weeks left in the
college football season, and you talk about up for grabs,
like the Heisman trophies up for grabs, And then which
(58:57):
teams are going to be in the playoffs? If Florida
State wins and goes undefeated but they don't have their quarterback,
are they in the playoffs? You know? Does a one win,
a one lost Texas team with a victory on the
road against Alabama get in instead? If they run the
table and win the Big twelve? So many unanswered questions.
But it's just been a weird year in terms of
(59:18):
quarterback injuries this year NFL college football. You know, it
seems like and Carry Rhoades. We were talking about this yesterday,
Rich the more effort they have made over the years
to protect the quarterback, we seem to have more devastating
injuries to quarterbacks than we ever had before.
Speaker 8 (59:39):
Well, okay, so you can make an argument, and this
is an odd argument, but following me here, you can
make an argument that part of football is knowing how
to get hit. Okay, so the game is violent, You're
gonna get hit, you know, running back to wide receivers, quarterbacks,
any ball carrier is going to get hit.
Speaker 7 (59:57):
The ones who get hit the most.
Speaker 8 (59:59):
You can make the argument that they know how to
receive the hits the best, so as they're going to
the ground, they know which way to fall, to brace
themselves for impact, you know, to for John there's a
little bit of an armor. I remember I had a
former teammate named Nick Hardwick who used to call it
his armor. It took him about four weeks, he would say,
(01:00:21):
to build up that armor where you know your pads
are popping, you're hitting, and you get out of that
first month in the season and you've built it up.
You got to build it up during training camp. You
got to build it up through the early portion of
the season. You get into the postseason. It's a different
level of playing the postseason. You got to build it up.
You know, these quarterbacks are not building up that armory,
and so as a result of it, you know, and
(01:00:42):
not getting hit and being protected at the youth level,
at the high school level, at the college football level,
and now at the pro level, there's a lot of
guys who don't know how to brace for impact and
it's a part of the game. Now, is it completely
the reason why? No, this could be an aberrant year,
but it is one x.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
It's amazing. You mentioned that building armor, Kerry said, the
exact same thing is that. And it's not just quarterbacks,
you know, with the lighter practices, it's completely changed in
an effort to protect the players. And yet we seem
to have as many injuries, if not more injuries, than
we've ever had on the football field. So flucish or not?
(01:01:21):
All right, we're watching again the Packers. They have a
third and eight right now at the Chargers ten yard line,
fifteen seconds to go. They throw to the end zone
and that pass is.
Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
What is that?
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
Is that incomplete? Right there? We only have seconds to
go in the half again, Packers trailing Chargers by a
score to ten to seven. By the way, the Raiders
got a field goal right before the half, so they
narrow that lead to fourteen thirteen Dolphins over the Raiders.
Seconds to go in the first half.
Speaker 7 (01:01:49):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
We're brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive expundling easy
and affordable. You get a multi policy discount by combining
your motorcycle, RV, boat, a TV and more, all your

let's find out what is trending right now. And Moncie,
I know you are multiple fantasy football leagues. Yeah, who
was lucky enough to have had the foresight to take
(01:02:12):
c J. Stroud in your leagues?
Speaker 7 (01:02:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (01:02:14):
Definitely not me.
Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
I mean, I know, I don't think anybody was jumping
all over a rookie CJ. Stroud with the Taxans. Yeah,
you know, to put up some fantasy football points.
Speaker 9 (01:02:23):
I'm sure he's on a team now everywhere somebody, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
But I don't think you're Reska being the benefits.
Speaker 14 (01:02:28):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (01:02:28):
I don't know if anyone drafted him that first night,
you know what I'm saying, Probably not if they did
good for them. You guys are talking about injuries. We've
got some injuries to check in on. You just mentioned
the Raiders and the Dolphins. All of these games, by
the way, eight games going on, pretty much all at halftime.
Dolphins up on the Raiders fourteen to thirteen. But running
back de Von Achan, who just came back, is questionable
(01:02:50):
to return with a knee injury, Tyreek Hill questionable to
return with a hand injury.
Speaker 9 (01:02:55):
Moving on to the Chargers and.
Speaker 10 (01:02:57):
The Packers, that still us seven seconds to go. They
are currently tied now at ten a piece. Joey Bosa
was carted off earlier for the Chargers, Aaron Jones was
cart into the locker room with a towel over his head,
questionable to return with the knee injury, and Emmanuel Wilson
was just carted off for the Packers.
Speaker 9 (01:03:13):
So a lot of injuries currently going on.
Speaker 10 (01:03:16):
The Lions took the lead a mon Ross Saint Brown
with a touchdown pass from Jared Goff, so they're beating
the Bears fourteen to ten. Jared Goff one hundred and
seven yards, one touchdown, two interceptions.
Speaker 9 (01:03:26):
But he's getting in a groove. He's getting in a groove.
Speaker 10 (01:03:28):
Tommy DeVito is in a groove one hundred and eighty
nine yards and two touchdowns, and the Giants are beating
the Commanders fourteen to nine. Sam Howell did have a
rushing touchdown for the Commanders, but their kicker, Joey Slide
did miss the extra points. Giants are up fourteen to nine.
One minute left before halftime. There's been all Cowboys against
the Panthers seventeen thirteen Dak Prescott one hundred and twenty
(01:03:49):
six yards, two touchdowns, all in the air. All Jaguars
against the Titans thirteen to ten at halftime. Rookie quarterback
Will Levi is six of ten for just thirty eight
yards in this one. And the Texans, of course CJ.
Stroud two hundred and fifty nine yards, two touchdowns, one interception.
Speaker 9 (01:04:06):
It's just halftime.
Speaker 10 (01:04:07):
The Texans up on the Cardinals at home twenty one
to ten. But we got to keep an eye on
all those injuries.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
So back to you, guys, Ali Montie. We have yeah
guys ropping all over the place around the National Football League.
This is Spot Sports Red Zone Radio, Steve Harbin and
Rich Ornberger. I'm going to give you another candidate for
NFL Coach of the Year. I mean, obviously Demiico Ryans
is the runaway, but how about Sean Payton. I mean,
(01:04:34):
you talk, you talk about a team that they were
sitting at zero to three, giving up seventy points on
the road to the Dolphins. They sat to one in five.
They now won three in a row. And those last
two wins were a convincing win at home against the Chiefs,
completely shut them down nine points, and then a road
win against the Bills. Today they're hosting the Vikings. Look,
(01:04:58):
I you know, I've always been a Sean guy. I
had a chance to spend some time with him, ironically
the year that he was suspended down in New Orleans.
Super nice guy, really liked him and everything else. But
I was like, you know, wow, this is looking really bad.
And when you get put seventy on you, it's easy
to say, wow, we're zering three and the season's over.
(01:05:20):
We're gonna write it off. Instead, A team that wasn't
just bad defensively, we're talking historically bad, is suddenly really
good on the defensive side of the football. And guess
who's had a very efficient year at quarterback. That would
be Russell Wilson. And I'm looking at their schedule, rich,
you know, if they can beat the Vikings at home
(01:05:41):
this week, they get the Browns at home next week.
They got some winnable games. I'm not writing them out
as far as a possible wild card here, but it
does tell you about a coach holding things together when
it literally looks like the places completely falling apart. I
(01:06:02):
don't know how many coaches could have rebounded from the
kind of loss they suffered in Miami, but guess what
the Broncos have done it?
Speaker 11 (01:06:09):
Well.
Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
I will say this, it's probably probably gonna take ten
wins to get yes even in the wildcard conversation this season.
This is a four win team, four and five right
now under Sean Payton, and it's nothing short of a
miracle that they've been able to turn things around considering
how bad it's all started. So yeah, I mean when
(01:06:29):
you take a look at the numbers over the past
four weeks, that defense that you mentioned, who had historically
poor performances, are now only allowing sixteen point eight points
during that time span.
Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
That's for weeks.
Speaker 8 (01:06:42):
Yeah, I mean, they're holding teams under twenty points. In
today's NFL, it is crazy inside the twenty yard line.
There's no better quarterback this season than Russell Wilson. He
is scoring in the red zone. Okay, that is hugely
important to a Sean Payton offense is we're gonna get
it down to the twenty yard line and we're going
to put it in the end zone.
Speaker 7 (01:07:02):
We're not finishing with three points.
Speaker 8 (01:07:03):
He did it for years down there in New Orleans
with Drew Brees, and he's expecting the same thing from
this offense and they're delivering it.
Speaker 7 (01:07:11):
They're riding a ton of momentum.
Speaker 8 (01:07:13):
Okay Russell Wilson, and this offense has developed an identity.
Speaker 7 (01:07:18):
It really is a running football team.
Speaker 8 (01:07:20):
They want to feature the run game, and they're actually
having success. Over the past month of football. They're running
the football just about as good as any offense in
the National Football League, So.
Speaker 7 (01:07:30):
This is working.
Speaker 8 (01:07:33):
It feels so weird to say this about the Denver Broncos,
considering what a laughing stock they were to start the season,
especially highlighting that game against Miami Dolphins where that defense
had seventy scored against them and that offense looked completely
inept all of a sudden, Like you're pointing out, if
they improved to five and five this weekend, they at
(01:07:56):
least have a puncher's chance of winning five of their
last seven games and having an opportunity to get a
playoff for us.
Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Well, this is an amazing matchup because the team they're playing,
the Vikings, also started the year zero to three. They
were one and four. They have now won five straight games,
and of course the last couple of games with Kirk
Cousins out for the season have been courtesy of won
Joshua Dobbs. The come from me, I'm victory on the
road against the Falcons and then another great performance against
(01:08:26):
the Saints, and I say, they're like, well, you know
where did this guy come from? Well, we were saying
the same thing about Gino Smith a year ago, who
I didn't even know was still in the NFL last
year until suddenly he's a Pro Bowl season for the
Seahawks doing it again this year. So again, it just
this is such a crazy league. It really is.
Speaker 7 (01:08:45):
It really is where.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
We've had so much tumult as far as these quarterbacks
going in and out of these lineups and guys emerging
that nobody could have predicted. And I just love this
matchup today. Of course it's going to be the Sunday
night game tonight. You know on papers say ah Vikings Broncos, No, no, no,
And these are two teams that are red hot right
(01:09:09):
now and they're going for it. The Joshua Dobbs story again.
I we talked obviously about this last week Rich where
I mean, the dob story is remarkable, and and and
again you have to be understanding of how complicated it is. Yesterday,
again talking to our buddy Carry Rhodes, he said his
(01:09:29):
analogy about what Dobbs did in that Falcons game. He goes,
imagine this. Let's say you walk into a McDonald's and
they tell you, all right, we need to put you
to work immediately. You need to operate the fries machine,
the burgers.
Speaker 7 (01:09:46):
You wouldn't know what to do.
Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
No, you literally would have not a clue. You would watch, No,
you need to work right now. He was trying to
use that kind of an analogy to how improbable it
was what Dobbs did in that first game of the Falcons,
never taking a single snap that week with the first string. Like,
just walk into any business blind and be expected to
(01:10:12):
do the job. Oh and by the way, do the
job at a high level, not having a clue of
exactly what you're doing. That's what Dobbs did in the
game against the Falcons. And that's what dobb is continuing
to learn now, this Viking system and doing it amazingly efficiently.
Speaker 8 (01:10:27):
Well, I actually love the analogy, but to further it,
I mean, What it really is is working out a
burger king and then switching all of a sudden to
a McDonald's and being expected to run it just as
well as you did right when you're making whoppers, now
that you're making big Max. And that's really what it was.
It looked because I'm sure there are similarities in both
(01:10:48):
of those fast food chains in terms of how their
kitchen has ran, in terms of how the fries are cooked,
how the burgers are made. I'm sure there's similarities in
terms of the point the point of contact situation with
the customers. You know, how tickets are printed out in
the kitchen, all the different aspects of the fast food industry.
I'm sure there's carryover from place to place to place. However,
(01:11:10):
it's not the same. It's not the same. And guess what.
You don't know who the floor manager is. You don't
know who the general manager is. You don't know who
the fry cook is, you don't know who's the cashiers.
Speaker 7 (01:11:20):
You don't have any idea of who anybody is.
Speaker 8 (01:11:23):
And somehow he walked into that McDonald's and he had
a perfect eight hours of service.
Speaker 7 (01:11:29):
It just doesn't make sense.
Speaker 8 (01:11:30):
So, yeah, Joshua Dobbs the pastu'ronaut, which I think is
one of the best NFL nicknames I've ever heard. Just
parachuting in there and saving the day for the Vikings,
and then not only that, but ten days less than
ten days later going out there and getting a road
win against the Falcons. I mean, that's a real defense.
And so Joshua Dobbs is doing things we've really never
(01:11:54):
seen a backup quarterback do outside of And I'm gonna
use the name because I think it's apt, because I
think he's well coached and he's coming up. He's he's
fallen off a similar coaching tree brock Purty. So what
similarities do Kevin O'Connell and and Kyle Shanahan have. Well,
(01:12:15):
Kyle Shanahan, he grew up with Matt Lafleur and Mike
McDaniel and Sean McVay on that that commander's staff, and
then he goes obviously to the Bay Area after spending
time as an offensive coordinator and having a tremendous amount
of sex with success with the San Francisco forty nine ers,
while Sean McVay from that same coaching tree went to
the Los Angeles Rams, he obviously employed Kevin O'Connell as
(01:12:38):
his OC. He's taken over in Minnesota and hasn't looked back.
I was a great team with Kirk Cousins last year.
And by the way, all of these guys who were
in in Washington with the Commanders, they like Kirk Cousins.
They think he's a pretty good quarterback, and they all
think they could get a lot out of him. So
you've got Kevin O'Connell in the lead seat in Minunes,
(01:13:00):
bringing in Joshua Adopts, and what does he do. He
gets a ton out of his backup quarterback, just like
Kyle Shanahan got a ton out of Black Party, just
like Kyle Shanahan got a ton out of Jimmy Garoppolo.
And Trey Lance went healthy, he just couldn't stay on
the field. So I think that he's in the perfect
situation for Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
Crazy Sunday and NYE matchups. So two teams that both
started the year zero and three now on winning streaks.
Vikings five in a row, Broncos three in a row.
By the way, you mentioned fast food. Here's something that
Rich knows that is common amongst all these fast food places.
The secret menu. Yes have you? When's the last day
you did this? For a while? Rich?
Speaker 7 (01:13:40):
Where you were you.
Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
Were engaging and eating secret menu items at fast food places?
Speaker 7 (01:13:46):
I know?
Speaker 8 (01:13:47):
Yeah, no, I I hung it up for a time
because I realized that as you indulge, the waistline grows
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
So yeah, so what was what was your favorite secret
menu item?
Speaker 8 (01:14:03):
The very first one I tried was the Arby's Meat Mountain, which.
Speaker 7 (01:14:08):
If you if you haven't lived until you've.
Speaker 8 (01:14:11):
Had the Arby's Meat Mountain. And by the way, what
crazy through line there. Joshua Dobbs actually served it to me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
So all right, we continue on as we get ready
for the start of second half eight games around the
National Football League. Keep it here for all the score stats,
everything you need. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 15 (01:14:32):
Second down nine from the Pittsburgh twenty six picket under
center Jalen Warren, the loan setback gets the toss to
the right, Warren turns it upfield, finds a gap, hop
over the thirty to thirty five forty pits, and foot
race to the fifty forty thirty five git on his
feet at the twenty fifteen ten Taylor Warren seventy four
yards touchdown.
Speaker 11 (01:14:54):
Get out of town.
Speaker 8 (01:14:55):
That is one of the greatest runs we've ever seen
in the history of the Steelers rivalry.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
That was w DVEE one O two boy five FM
Steelers Radio Network. This is so typical of the Steelers, right,
I mean, they're doing nothing offensively. A simple pitch of
Jalen uh well, what's his name, Jalen Warren and the
guy goes seventy four yards for a touchdown. Brown still
(01:15:25):
lead the Steelers ten to seven inside ten minutes to
go in the third quarter. This is Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio Steve Hartman and Rich Ornberger with you. We
are live from the Tyraq dot Com studios. But this
is typical Steelers. They're never out of these games. They
keep it low scoring. By the way, speaking of low scoring, Rich,
we only have two teams. The most points we have
(01:15:46):
on any team right now are the Texans with twenty
one points overall week after week. I mean there's some exceptions, obviously,
but scoring has been down around the NFL. Is that
because of ineffective offenses, injuries, a lot of backup quarterbacks
in the game, or are defenses finally figuring out how
(01:16:06):
to slow down the spread offenses that are prevalent around
this league.
Speaker 7 (01:16:12):
Well, that's part of it.
Speaker 8 (01:16:14):
I think that from a personnel standpoint, defenses are catching
up to what offenses are presenting. So for years and
years and years in the NFL, you needed to have
certain things defensively to combat what you were going to
see offensively.
Speaker 7 (01:16:28):
So you needed a.
Speaker 8 (01:16:30):
Run stuffing base defense that could be put out on
the field there, you know, in those short yardage and
goal line packages and get really stout against the run game,
or in general, you're gonna be playing a lot of
base defense, meaning four you know, or three really big
guys up there, depending on what front you run, you know,
three four, four to three defense. And then you know linebackers,
(01:16:52):
like real linebackers, guys who weigh two hundred and forty pounds,
who can you know, meet these offensive linemen at three
yards beyond the line of scrimmage the feet blocks and
make tackles.
Speaker 7 (01:17:01):
In the run game. Those days are kind of gone.
Speaker 8 (01:17:04):
A lot of defenses operate out of the sub defense,
which means you're in your nickel package or your dime packages,
adding defensive backs or what they're doing is they're getting
smaller at linebacker. So this has been adjustment that has
been made at the college level. You see a lot
of these hybrid linebacker safety types who are starting to
(01:17:25):
emerge and come into the league who are great in
the coverage game but can still play physical in the box.
And so that's a part of it. And then the
other part of it, too is you're seeing a lot
of poor quarterback play because of injuries to starting quarterbacks
in this league and frankly because of the revolving door
it's been at offensive coordinator in.
Speaker 7 (01:17:45):
The league over the past two years.
Speaker 8 (01:17:47):
So many new offensive coordinators working with either quarterbacks who
they've never worked with before, or maybe have, but it's
been in the distant past now, and so I think
that's been having an effect on the overall ability to
score for a lot of these offenses around the league.
Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Big bounds back week for the Jacksonville Jaguars after getting
embarrassed at home last week by the forty nine ers.
They lead the Titans twenty to nothing nine minutes to
go on the third quarter. Trevor Lawrence has thrown for
a touchdown. He's also scored a touchdown. Meanwhile, on the
other side, the Will Levis hype train is slowing down
(01:18:24):
a lot. He has thrown for just forty five yards
in this game on seven completions and zero points on
the board for the Titans. And I guess this is
the big story for any young quarterback. You go out
and you throw four touchdown passes in your first game,
You're like, who will Levis look out? Each week though,
his numbers have gotten worse and worse worse, not that
(01:18:47):
he's surrounded like a lot of talent, But Derek Henry
in this game has eight carries for sixteen yards.
Speaker 8 (01:18:53):
Yeah, Derrick Henry hasn't looked like Derrick Henry in about
a season and a half now. And the Tennessee Titans
are getting blanked by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
Here has three catches for sixteen yards.
Speaker 8 (01:19:05):
And when you look at this offense over the past
three weeks, you know they were only able to muster
sixteen points against the Steelers. They only scored six a
week ago against the Buccaneers and a loss. And so yeah,
after catching fire with Will Leavis out the gate, he's
starting to come down to earth. And frankly, the Tennessee
Titans are starting to look like a team where if
(01:19:28):
you don't replace stars, right. They didn't replace aj Brown
for a while and they finally brought in d Hop
That was a good addition, but too late. When you
don't replace or find a replacement for Derrick Henry, who
was aging on your roster, you knew eventually he was
going to hit a ledge. You're going to suffer the
consequences of an aging running back, which is he's often
(01:19:50):
injured and there are times where he's underperforming who he
used to be. You know, so this is what it
looks like offensively and then defensively, you know, injury and
things like that have gotten in the way for two seasons.
The one thing I will say is that locker room
loves Mike Rabel and they're still out there fighting for
Mike Rabel. This was one of those games with some
(01:20:10):
serious consequences on the on the schedule this early slate,
and unfortunately for the Titans, they're just not showing much life.
Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
We got a lot of close games. I get a
sense we're going to have a number of games coming
down to the wire. One of them Chargers just got
a field goal to retake the lead thirteen to ten
against the Packers. Total yards in this game, Chargers have
two hundred and thirty five the Packers have two hundred
and thirty four. So and by the way, Jordan Love
has one hundred and fifty five yards passing. Justin Herbert
(01:20:40):
has just one p fifteen, So down the stretch you
know where to stay for all the exciting finishes. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, rolling along here on
an incredibly busy NFL Sunday. This is Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from the tyrack dot com studios.
Tyrack dot com, get you there. An unmatched selection fasts,
(01:21:02):
free shipping, free road has a protection over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way tire buying
should be. All right, We're well into the second halfs now.
These eight games around the NFL, and we got a
lot of close games. The only blowout right now is
the Jaguars are now up twenty seven to nothing over
(01:21:24):
the Tennessee Titans. Trevor Lawrence just threw another touchdown pass
to Calvin Ridley. Ridley has six catches one hundred one
yards and those two scores Lawrence eighteen to twenty five
two hundred and thirty three yards two touchdowns and no picks.
But the other games all with in a reach. Now,
one team that is not playing this week, four teams
(01:21:45):
on the bye week this week. That would be the Saints,
the Colts, the Falcons, and your beloved New England Patriots.
I mean, right now, they're the worst team in the league.
I think there's any team playing worse. I mean Carolina
obviously has a worse record, but I mean the Pats
(01:22:07):
and the way they're losing. We talked about the fact
they had a bye week. I can't even imagine, but
you would know what you don't know because you weren't
part of a two to eight Patriots team. But you
can only imagine rich knowing that organization, what the players
are going through. But now that we have a week
to sort of, you know, take in this catastrophe of
(01:22:29):
a season for Belichick and the Patriots. How do you
think this thing is gonna play out once the season
is over?
Speaker 8 (01:22:35):
Well, I think that if Bill Belichick wants to, he's
gonna He's gonna be the head coach in New England
next season. I think I think it's impossible to fire
Bill Belichick, and so he's gonna have to come to
the table with a real plan, and for the first time,
it's not just going to be assumed, Oh.
Speaker 7 (01:22:54):
It's Bill Belichick. He'll figure it out.
Speaker 8 (01:22:56):
Like No, he's gonna have to sit down and have
a long conversation with Robbercraft and he's going to have
to sell Old Bobby on why he needs to remain
the head coach of the New England Patriots, because what's
being reported isn't inaccurate in terms of, you know, there's
been issues with Mac Jones and his development, and some
(01:23:17):
of that's on Mac, but guess what, some of that's
on Bill Belichick. So he had an offensive coordinator in
place who they couldn't keep in the building because he wanted,
he had aspirations to become a head coach, and he
left in Josh McDaniels leaves after Mac jones first season.
Speaker 7 (01:23:33):
Okay, well, typically.
Speaker 8 (01:23:35):
You replace an offensive coordinator with an offensive coordinator, and
he didn't. He hired Matt Patricia and Joe Judge to
be co offensive coordinators, and it seemed like they battled
for the job during the preseason, and then Matt Patricia
won the job, and then there was even points in
the season where I think Bill Belichick was helping call
(01:23:57):
plays at one point offensively like it was a mess.
It was an absolute mess last season, and they still
mustered whatever it was, seven wins. A down year for
the Patriots, no doubt, and then you look at this season,
it's gone completely off the rails. Now you can make excuses.
You could say they've lost some really important defenders, and
they have, and you could say that offensively they don't
(01:24:20):
have much for mac Jones to work with. But whose
fault is that the general manager is the head coach.
It's Bill Belichick's show. So he's gonna have to go
to Robbercraft if again, if he wants to remain in
New England with a real plan of how he can
fix this situation. And I do think he's built up
enough leash. I guess we'll call it in New England
(01:24:42):
that he's going to be allowed to come back next season.
That's my guess at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:24:46):
All right, come down. Quarterback of the Week this week,
Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions is just eleven of
nineteen for one hundred and seven yards. He has thrown
two picks. He does have a touchdown pass. The Lions
at home are losing to the Bears twenty to fourteen.
(01:25:06):
Justin Fields has outplayed golf badly. Fields is fifteen or
twenty one hundred and sixty two yards, one touchdown, no pick.
He also has fifty five yards on the ground, which
does bring up the bigger question about the future of
the quarterback position in Chicago. So Fields is back. The
Bears not only have their own number one pick, they
(01:25:27):
also have Carolina's number one pick, so they have a
couple of shots, perhaps to be the number one overall
pick this year. But if Fields can right the ship
and play well, and both of us were pretty hyped
on Fields coming out of Ohio State, why wouldn't you be?
I mean, he can do so many different things on
a positive level. We've seen it in times during his
(01:25:51):
NFL career. Do you throw it all the way? Do
you make a move? If you're the Bears with the
number one overall pick, we speculated you could get I
don't know three number ones from a team because teams
are desperate to get a quarterback like Caleb Williams. The
stay with Justin Fields, How do you think this is
going to play out?
Speaker 7 (01:26:10):
Look?
Speaker 8 (01:26:11):
I think that Justin Fields is playing for either his
job with the Chicago Bears organization or one of potentially
the other jobs available around the NFL.
Speaker 7 (01:26:21):
Because as soon as this season ends and as soon as.
Speaker 8 (01:26:23):
We reopen that trade window, he will be available to
go somewhere else. And there's some quarterback needy teams. If
you look around the NFL and you see what it's
looked like look like at that position this season, I
don't think there's there's probably a handful of teams right
now that if they had the opportunity to and they
(01:26:44):
had the cap room for it, they would trade for
Justin Fields because they're pretty good teams other than the
quarterback position, And maybe you'd like to take a bite
at that apple. But he hasn't been able to stay
overall healthy enough to play in this league and stay
durable enough to play in this league, So there's huge
question marks there. When he's been on the field, he's
(01:27:07):
shown to be a great athlete, but is he a
great passer?
Speaker 7 (01:27:10):
The answer is no.
Speaker 8 (01:27:11):
So I think if I'm a talent evaluator, if I'm
playing GM, you know, if I put on you know,
the job title for a day, I would want to
see how Justin Fields finishes this season with the Bears
before making any sort of bold proclamations. So I think
this is very much an audition. I feel very similar
in the NFC North about Justin Fields as I do
(01:27:32):
Jordan Love. I think they're both trying out for the job,
and if they failed this season, both of those teams
are going to go back into this draft and try
to find a different quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Commander's trying to come from behind at home against the
lowly Giants. Tommy DeVito hot today with a couple of
touchdown passes, but now the Commanders have pulled within fourteen
to twelve. They got a field goal. Sam hal I
don't know where.
Speaker 7 (01:27:58):
You go with Sam Howe.
Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
I mean, his numbers are pretty ordinary today eighteen to
twenty four are only one hundred and forty two yards
a pick, no touchdowns, he has run for a score.
This is this is where this is where general managers
and coaches earn their money. Yeah, it's trying to figure
out whether or not there's more in a player moving forward,
(01:28:20):
because you know every player comes into the league and
there's a growing pin. You got to learn how to
play at the speed of the NFL. These are the
greatest football players obviously on the planet, and then you
have to sort of evaluate moving forward, what's the ceiling
on this guy? Well, like, is this okay, we're seeing
some progress, but how much better? And this could be
(01:28:43):
any position, not just quarterback. How much better is he
actually going to be? And again it's the gms and
the coaches that are successful that more often than not
make the right call on their personnel.
Speaker 7 (01:28:59):
Right right.
Speaker 8 (01:29:00):
You know, well one Sam Howe, he is just difficult
to really to to peg as far as what type
of talenty is at this level. Is he the thirty
nine and fifty two nearly four hundred yard passer who
throws for four touchdowns and an interception against the Eagles
a couple of weeks ago, or is he the guy
(01:29:20):
who's to your point, and I completely agree, who's looking
pretty average today against the against the Giants. The answer
is I don't know, And you know what, to be
perfectly frank, neither do these talent evaluators. I know they're
getting paid a lot of money, and I know that
general managers and player personnel directors and presidents of of
(01:29:42):
pro player Personnel, they they get pretty big paychecks from
these NFL franchises, and they can.
Speaker 7 (01:29:48):
Absolutely talk the talk.
Speaker 8 (01:29:49):
You don't get that job in this league unless you
know what you're doing. However, they're guessing too. They don't
know either. That's the reason why every year something like
sixty to eighty percent of the quarterbacks taken within the
first round they bust or they become guys who are
marginal or replaceable at some point in their career. And
(01:30:12):
they're not franchise quarterbacks. We're talking about first round talents
at the most visible position in football. You would assume
the hit rate would be higher than forty thirty five percent,
but it's not.
Speaker 7 (01:30:23):
This is really difficult to do.
Speaker 8 (01:30:25):
And Sam Howell, he's presenting a case for himself against
certain teams and in raucous road environments, and then there's
times like this week where you go, wow, you know,
there's just nothing there.
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
By the way, a team that got off to a
hot start today and has slowed down considerably, the Dallas
Cowboys are now in a battle as Carolina has just
scored on a Bryce Young touchdown pass to Tommy Tremble.
Cowboys lay this game seventeen to ten. They jumped all
over Carolina early, but Dak Prescott is nineteen to thirty one,
(01:30:59):
has a couple of touchdown passes, but he's only thrown
for one hundred and forty yards in this game. The
Cowboys have less than two hundred total yards in offense.
Were coming toward the end of the third quarter. So
Carolina at the very least you can say about a
team with the worst record in the NFL, they're playing hard. Yeah,
I mean, you know, the Cowboys came in with a
(01:31:21):
lot of hype, a lot of people jumping on the
Cowboys bandwagon. Again, they've only played two teams this year
with winning records currently with winning records, and they lost
to both of them. But this is a Carolina team
at least today. And by the way, Chewba Hubbard and
Miles Sanders both have at least fifty yards rushing, so
the getting a little ground game. Bryce Young again not much,
(01:31:41):
but at least defensively, Carolina starting to tighten the screws
on this Dalas Cowboys offense.
Speaker 7 (01:31:48):
Yeah, six win Dallas team.
Speaker 8 (01:31:49):
Who you know, we all heard it after you know,
that that big loss to the Niners. There was the
media coming out against Dak Prescott and the he looked
in that loss, and every time they face a real team,
you know, and they're looking for Dak to be clutch,
it gets sideways on him. Well, they come off the bye,
(01:32:10):
they get a big win on the road against the Chargers,
they get a huge win hosting the Rams, and then
they face the Eagles and it's a close game but
a loss. They bounce back with a win against the Giants,
so that brings us to the six win record. This
is a weird sandwich game for Dak and the Cowboys
because you have the Giants where they absolutely beat the
(01:32:31):
cheese out of the Giants a week ago, and then
the Panthers and then the Commanders. What are the Giants
and Commanders have in common. Well, they're divisional rivals. So
those are wins you absolutely need. And I'm not saying
that they already counted this as a win, but I
have a feeling they looked at Giants, Panthers, Commanders and
they went, Okay, win, win, win, and then we'll face
the Seahawks at home and that'll get us ready to
(01:32:53):
host the Eagles.
Speaker 7 (01:32:54):
So this is a little bit of a lull.
Speaker 8 (01:32:56):
In their schedule where you could assume you're a little
bit better than you are, and Bryce young Man, he's
getting better now. I don't think the team around him
is very good. They've got a lot of work to
do in Carolina. But the game's slowing down for him
a little bit, and Carolina can sneak up on some people.
Speaker 7 (01:33:13):
Certainly happening with Dallas today.
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
All right, we have eight games in the NFL. We
are now getting into the fourth quarters, and seven of
the eight games are one score games, which games will
go to the finish. For all the answers, keep it here.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Second and twenty
(01:33:35):
thirty eight yard line. Bears go to work Lions with
a four man front, spread wide, snap back to fields,
stepping up, gonna launch down the right scene to the
end zone.
Speaker 11 (01:33:46):
Two more for the touchdown.
Speaker 8 (01:33:49):
Touchdown Bears, you will not find a pretty Your throw
had a catch where he had a run to the
ball in the paint.
Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
Put it on the board, Baby Bears in front. Nineteen fourteen.
That's the Bears radio network, and the Bears are now
leading twenty three to fourteen on the road against the Lions.
Who saw that one coming? Not many people welcome back
to This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We are
live from the tire rack dot Com studios, and shortly
(01:34:18):
after our show, our podcast is going to go up.
That's right, the podcast Now. If you missed any of
today's show, be sure to check out the podcast. Just
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts, and
be sure also to follow, rate and review the podcast. Again,
just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts,
and you'll see this show posted right after we get
(01:34:40):
off the air. We got a lot of work to
do between now and that time, with so many close
games around the NFL. The Packers have scored to take
a sixteen to thirteen lead over the Chargers. We also
had our first missed extra point of the game. Carlson
yaktat he's not very good, and instead of a four
point lead, the back have a three point lead. And
(01:35:01):
now the Chargers have come right back. They have a
first down at the green Bay sixteen yard line. So
you know, the Packers not very good. And that's why
we talked about this earlier. Rich. This is a game
the Chargers can't lose, Yeah, I mean if they if
they want to be in the playoffs and they're still
on the cusp as a four and five team, you
(01:35:24):
have to win this game.
Speaker 8 (01:35:25):
Yeah, this puts you This is the same situation that
Denver Broncos are in. Okay, so to start the season,
if you would have asked us flat out, especially considering
what happened in twenty twenty two with the Denver Broncos,
where do you think these two teams would place? You
wouldn't put them next to each other at the bottom
of the division they're in.
Speaker 7 (01:35:46):
But that's exactly what's happened.
Speaker 8 (01:35:48):
Four and five Chargers team, four and five Broncos team
playing against very different types of competition. Green Bay Packers,
like you mentioned, it's been a wobbly season at best,
mulating only three wins. Vikings facing the Denver Broncos, I
mean that's a team on the rise with Joshua Dobbs
playing out of his mind right now for the Minnesota franchise,
(01:36:09):
So Denver easily and more difficult task. Plus a primetime
game against the Minnesota Vikings. This felt like if you
were looking at the Chargers schedule to start the season,
a win, a win on the road against the Green
Bay Packers because you're not facing Aaron Rodgers any longer,
and they're getting all they can handle right now. But
this is what it's been with Brandon Staley and these
(01:36:33):
Chargers since he's taken over. High expectations, great roster, check
a lot of boxes in the offseason, and then once
the games start playing, there's huge issues defensively, Offensively, there's
injuries always.
Speaker 1 (01:36:49):
That's a you're not gonna believe it. The Charters had
a second and goal at the green Bay two yard line.
They ran the ball and just fumbled recovered by the
green Bay Packers. So the Packers three point lead and
they have secured the ball after a fumble. Eckler, Yeah,
(01:37:12):
he got hit and balls out and green Bay recovers.
So the Chargers, looking to take the lead, come up
empty and green Bay takes over still thirteen minutes to
go in that game.
Speaker 8 (01:37:24):
So yeah, they got it down to the two yard
line with a completion two whoever, well, then they tried,
they tried throwing it to Keenan Allen at first, and
then they handed it to Eckler on that second in
goal play and yeah, they just they just give the
ball back to the green Bay Packers. That is crazy,
And this is this is kind of what we've been
(01:37:46):
talking Chargery. Yeah, situational football and the Chargers when they
have to score, when it's gotta have it moment in
the game, oftentimes something goes wrong, So ball security at
the goal line. It was a problem for them in
the past, and it's rearing its head again here in
this game.
Speaker 1 (01:38:03):
All right, Tommy DeVito just threw his third touchdown pass
of the game, increasing the Giants lead to twenty one
to twelve on the road against the Commanders. Sa Kwon
Barkley another touchdown reception. It's a good thing because he
only has thirty five yards rushing, but he has fifty
seven yards receiving this game. Tommy DeVito eighteen of twenty six,
(01:38:23):
two hundred and forty six yards, three touchdowns, no picks.
This despite the fact that he has been sacked nine
times in this game. Let me explain to you has
been sacked nine times in this game.
Speaker 8 (01:38:38):
The most damaging thing for Daniel Jones isn't the fact
that he was playing poorly, because that was bad.
Speaker 7 (01:38:47):
We can all agree that was bad.
Speaker 8 (01:38:49):
There's a lot of things that complicate that, like having
one of the worst offensive lines in football to start
the season. But Daniel Jones objectively was not playing well.
Speaker 7 (01:38:59):
Either.
Speaker 8 (01:39:00):
The problem for Daniel Jones isn't that part of the story.
The problem is the Giants offense has now looked better
with Tarrod Taylor in there and Tommy DeVito. So what
does that tell you about Daniel Jones. It tells you
that he's playing at the same level as your backups
and you just gave him a contract worth forty million
dollars per year. That is a huge mistake now that
(01:39:21):
the Giants are looking back on it, because he played
very well managing that system, and in fact, I thought
he was coming into his own last year and it
looked like he finally had connected with an offensive coordinator
who understands how to use him in Brian dabol And
they came out this season and just could not even
(01:39:42):
match the type of protection he was receiving a season ago.
The run game has been absent because of Saquon Barkley's
early season injuries, and now the backups have outplayed their starter.
Speaker 7 (01:39:54):
The New York Giants are in free fall.
Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
I am watching this Pittsburgh Cleveland game. I mean, this
was a prettyble undergame if if there ever was one.
The Browns, obviously with the rookie Dorian Thompson Robinson taking
over for the injured Deshaun Watson. Seventeen or thirty two,
only one hundred and ten yards, no touchdowns, and a pick.
But I'm I'm I'm watching Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 7 (01:40:16):
He is just terrible.
Speaker 1 (01:40:17):
Yeah, he's eithered seventeen for fifty three yards, but he
what should be almost routine passes if you have any
talent in this league at quarterback. He can't make those throws,
you know, deep sideline passes, inaccurate, throws them out of bounds.
It's just it's unbelievable. And yet hear the Steelers there
(01:40:39):
are They had one play Jalen Warren ran seventy four
four yards for a touchdown. That is without that play, literally,
if you erase that play from their ledger, they have
less than one hundred yards in offense in this game. Yeah, listen,
but they're still in this game. This is a torporical
Steelers game where they hang around, hang around, hang around,
(01:40:59):
and you're like, what, how do they win this game?
Speaker 7 (01:41:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:41:02):
Well, I mean and they very well ken in May
and probably will because that's what the Pittsburgh Steelers have
done with Mike Tomlin over the years.
Speaker 7 (01:41:09):
I mean, it's been years of this. Now the last two.
Speaker 8 (01:41:14):
Seasons, you can make an argument of Ben Roethlisberger's career
as the Steelers starter and then now going into the
Trubisky Picket era, it has been bad. The quarterback play
has been bad, really limited with Ben Roethlisberger's elbow injury
that led them to become this, you know, five yard
(01:41:37):
pass offense that really relied on their run game and
playing strong defense to now what you're seeing with Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 7 (01:41:45):
It's just that they can't trust their quarterback and so
what do you do.
Speaker 8 (01:41:49):
You have to make every game a mud fight, and
that's what they've done and they've had success.
Speaker 1 (01:41:53):
By the way, the one college team whose uniforms are
most similar to the Steelers are the hot Iowa Hawkeyes. Yeah,
this was my favorite stat this week. So going into
this week in college football, there are one hundred and
thirty FBS schools. The University of Iowa came into this
week one hundred and thirtieth in total offense last out
(01:42:13):
of one hundred and thirty teams, and the wrecord was
eight and two, and yesterday they did it again. Ugly game.
They win it. Their nine and two with the worst
offense in the country, so they marry each other. They're
like the same team. IOWA is a collegiate form of
(01:42:35):
the Pittsburgh Steelers. And it gets back to coaching because
in the at the end, there's only one way to
judge a coach's career wins and losses. That's the only
stat they got. And a guy like Mike Tomlin, Kirk
Farren said Iowa, they just find ways to win. Who
cares about ugly, give me the w Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:42:55):
And it's true.
Speaker 8 (01:42:56):
And that's the reason why both of them have been
at the helm of their programs for as long as
they've been. Look, I credit both of them for sticking
to their guns and not you know, cowtowing to the
popular notion that you need to throw the ball all
over the place and change everything up offensively to play
sexy football. Because for Mike Tomlin, at the NFL level,
(01:43:19):
as you know, as everybody knows, all that matters is
wins and losses, winning your division, getting to the postseason,
giving your team a chance to even have a run
in January. In college football, it's a little bit different.
Kirk Farrens is sticking to his guns during a time
where style points do matter. But it almost feels in
(01:43:40):
some ways like he's immune to being ousted because of
all the success the programs had historically and the continued
success they have today. It's very strange, but there are
huge similarities between the styles that they play with.
Speaker 7 (01:43:56):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:43:57):
One game that is now out of control is the
Cowboy and the Panthers. So we had mentioned earlier the
Cowboys leaded shrunk to seventeen to ten. Tony Pollard got
a rushing touchdown, and then Bryce Young threw a pick six. Yeah,
and just like that, by the way, miss extra point
our second in about ten minutes here Dallas Lee's now
Carolina by a score of thirty to ten. This game
(01:44:19):
now thirteen minutes to go. The other blowout game we
have is Jacksonville annihilating Tennessee.
Speaker 7 (01:44:26):
Today.
Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
They're up thirty four to seven. Trevor Lawrence has thrown
for a couple of touchdowns. He's also scored a couple
of touchdowns. So big bounce back win today fort Jacksonville
after that disappointing blowout loss at home to the forty
nine ers last week. But we still have six other
games right now that are in the well, the Bears
(01:44:48):
and lines. I got to get back to Chris. He's
been awfully quiet today. The Bears have a nine point
lead in Detroit and they have the ball with eight
minutes to go in the fourth order. Chris, nobody saw
this coming at all. I mean, the Lions are seven
and two. Lions are in the conversation best team in
(01:45:08):
the NFC, and you lay an egg today at home
against the Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Yeah, there's there's really nothing to be said about you.
They've turned the ball over about four times now. Jared Goff,
it looks like he's playing one of the worst games
he's had in years. I know it's a divisional game,
but you've got the vikings on your butts on it.
It's hard to win divisional games in the NFL, give
him that, But like, there's so many mistackles in this game.
There's so many chances for the Lions to get off
(01:45:33):
the field before you know, Brian branch or someone draws
a flag for holding your PI. It's for Lions fans.
It's just very frustrating. You knew you were going to
not you weren't just gonna run the table on it,
but this one is rough to swallow right now, and
it's probably a big wake up call for them if
they want to keep going for this division crown.
Speaker 1 (01:45:52):
All right, let's find out what it is trending right now.
Monsey has been busy today with all these games. We
got to have at least a few exciting finishes, like yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:46:01):
Let's hope so yeah. I mean it was in CJ.
Speaker 10 (01:46:03):
Straw guys, three hundred and eight yards, two touchdowns, but
he did just throw his second interception of the game.
But the Texans are up still against the Cardinals at
home twenty one sixteen. So Arizona just got the ball.
They're like at midfield. It has been all Jaguars. And
you know what's annoying about this guys, I betch Trevor
Lawrence get he has been mid as the kids say
(01:46:24):
prior to today. I don't think he had in my Guillotine League.
I don't think he had surpassed twenty points.
Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
He has four total touchdowns.
Speaker 9 (01:46:32):
May I see that, Steve? I betched him and I put.
Speaker 10 (01:46:36):
In Sam Howell, who's not like terrible, But finally Trevor
Lawrence a breakout game. I'm telling you, he's been not bad,
but he's been mid and I needed something else in
this game. Two hundred and sixty two yards, two touchdowns
in the air, and you're right, two rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 9 (01:46:49):
Jaguars all over the Times thirty four to seven.
Speaker 10 (01:46:52):
But the Titans are at Jacksonville's second yard line, so
their second in goal, so they might score again.
Speaker 9 (01:46:57):
We'll see how that one goes.
Speaker 10 (01:46:58):
Cowboys, you mentioned it for stay rushing touchdown by Tony Pollard,
then a pick six, So they're beating the Panthers thirty
to ten early in the fourth quarter. Tommy Davito, what
a guy, I mean, living with his parents throwing for
two hundred and forty six yards and three touchdowns. Giants
beating the Commanders twenty one to twelfth early in the fourth.
Speaker 9 (01:47:17):
The Dolphins have only scored two field goals in the.
Speaker 10 (01:47:20):
Second half, so it's been a bit quiet against the Raiders.
But Miami up twenty to thirteen early in the fourth.
The Chargers keep charging as you mentioned, but you know
the Packers have just a slight lead sixteen thirteen, and
the Chargers have the ball with plenty of time left
early in the fourth. Yes, the Bears have been all
over the Lions, justin fields hasn't played in four games,
(01:47:42):
but it doesn't matter. He's thrown for one hundred and
sixty nine yards one touchdown his seventeen carries and one
hundred and three yards on the ground. And the Bears
are beating the Lions twenty three fourteen halfway through the
fourth and then the Steelers in the Browns a bit
of a snooze fest itself, a little slow and scoring
sid even though Pittsburgh just tied the game with the
field goals. So Steelers Browns tied at ten.
Speaker 9 (01:48:04):
Apiece halfway through the fourth.
Speaker 10 (01:48:05):
And for the games that are coming up, Seahawks wide
receiver Tyler Lockett and Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who
were both listed as questionable, are officially active.
Speaker 7 (01:48:14):
So back to you.
Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
Guys, all right, busy, busy day. Indeed, Mond See absolutely
sorry about that decision you made, Sam hell Over, Trevor

Progressive dot Com. The Steelers have just tied up their
game with the Browns ten to all, now seven forty
to go in the fourth quarter. The Bears are about
to put Detroit away. They have a fourth and five
right now at the Detroit twenty one yard line, so
we're going to get a field goal attempt five minutes
(01:48:59):
to go in that game, and the Bears trying to
up that lead to twelve with a field goal. Meanwhile,
the Chargers rich are moving again. They got a first
down at Green Bay's thirty eight yard line, Trailing this
game by a score of sixteen to thirteen. I got
to look at some of the overall numbers, it just
seems like the Chargers have had many opportunities. By the way.
(01:49:21):
The Bears field goal attempt is good twenty six to fourteen,
four point fifteen to go in the fourth quarter, and
the Bears very much in control of this game on
the road against Detroit. But the total yards in this
game between the Packers and the Bears are literally almost identical. Yeah,
it's been a very very close game. Big difference here
(01:49:42):
though Packers missed an extra point, so instead of a
four point lead, the lead is three.
Speaker 8 (01:49:48):
Well, the biggest problem for the Chargers is the one
turnover there going into score. Yeah, I mean with that
in a close game, turnovers are detrimental. Turnovers in the
red zone when you're at the goal line. I mean,
that is hugely damaging. That is literally taking the winning
score potentially off the board, and with nine minutes left
(01:50:11):
to play, that undoubtedly could come back to haunt them
here in a very close football game. So yeah, there
have been mistakes on both sides, but the most glaring
era or it should say error so far has been
the Chargers coughing it up when they had opportunity to
go up by four points.
Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
The Raiders are on the move. They are trailing the
Dolphins twenty to thirteen. We still have nine and a
half minutes to go in the fourth quarter in this game.
But O'Connell just threw a pass to Tucker down to
the Miami twenty two yard lines. So the Raiders. Boy,
just an amazing turnaround in the attitude of this game.
(01:50:49):
I mean, this is, you know, a West coast to
the East coast game. The Dolphins are better team than
the Raiders. But the Raiders have been hanging in this game,
and in fact, in the second half, the Dolphins only
they have six points. The Raiders have no points in
the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:51:03):
I think this pass is going to get to overturned though.
Speaker 1 (01:51:06):
Okay, are they reviewing the play on the white Okay? So,
but the Raiders still have the ball and they are
in Miami, Jarriedy.
Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
They are reviewing it right now, so it could stand.
But look, looking myself at look, I mean, not.
Speaker 1 (01:51:20):
Only did they make a change at coach, but they
just announced flat out aid and O'Connell is our quarterback. Yeah,
I mean, Jimmy Garoppolo can play. It's just that he's
not going to play. Right that Jimmy Garoppolo has taken
his last snap as a Raider. Anything happens to O'Connell,
your former roommate Brian Hoyer will come at a quarterback.
(01:51:41):
It's just a crazy situation, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (01:51:43):
I mean, I think very much so.
Speaker 8 (01:51:47):
In this situation, Jimmy Garoppolo maybe look to as a
Josh McDaniel guy. I guess, I mean he's done. Yeah,
who knows what what transpired inside of that building, because
you heard it that.
Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
That think Devonteadas made it very clear in that last
game that he was not happy Jimmy Garoppolo, that.
Speaker 8 (01:52:09):
That was an ugly situation they had, the the whatever
was the the hey, everybody say your words right, get
it all out, let's.
Speaker 7 (01:52:18):
Cleanse this room.
Speaker 8 (01:52:20):
And it completely backfired for Josh McDaniels because not only
did everybody start griping out loud, you know, sort of
saying the quiet things out loud about how the season
had gone, but then when Antonio Pierce apparently allegedly we've
heard this through source report and got in front of
the room and was talking about his Giants team that
beat the Patriots during that undefeated season for the New
(01:52:45):
England Patriots, and he was trying to inspire this roster
and say, hey, it starts with believing in yourselves and
believing you have a chance to win. Josh McDaniels apparently
tore him down and said, you don't ever talk about
the New New England Patriots that way. So, I mean,
it's bizarre. It's bizarre where they were three weeks ago
(01:53:06):
and how much different and how much better they look now.
Speaker 7 (01:53:10):
And a lot of it has to do with Antonio Pierce.
Speaker 8 (01:53:12):
But let's be honest, a lot of it has to
do with Max Crosby in that defense, the Raiders defense
holding it together for this team all season long. A
lot of it has to do with Aidan O'Connell stepping
into some big shoes as a starting quarterback in this
league and not looking like it's too big for him.
Speaker 1 (01:53:30):
I'm watching the Chargers right now, Justin Herbert scrambling for
a first down for the Chargers, so they have the
first down at Green Bay's eleven yard line. A couple
of plays ago, though, on first down, they got called
for an illegal procedure and Justin Herbert just lost it.
I mean he slammed the ball down to the ground
out of frustration. But he's been doing as much damage
(01:53:52):
with his legs as his arm in this game. He
has seventy three yards rushing in this game, and he
only had two hundred and forty yards pass. I say only,
but we know he's capable of some huge numbers. So
now watching here the Chargers first down. We got about
six eighteen seventeen clock ticking right now. Chargers trailing in
Green Bay by a score of sixteen to thirteen. Austin
(01:54:17):
Eckler getting the ball and not going much of anywhere
right now. So again absolute musk game for.
Speaker 7 (01:54:23):
The Chargers, Oh, no question about it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:25):
Have to win this game in order to keep their
playoff hopes alive. And probably again well, people ask me
about the whole Brandon Staley situation. I said, do you
understand We've seen this twice. We saw it with Mike McCoy.
We saw it with Anthony Lynn where they both had
winning seasons in each of their first two years and
(01:54:45):
then the wheels fell off year three, and yet they
both got a fourth year before they got let go.
Why because you had four year contracts.
Speaker 8 (01:54:53):
So we have an incomplete pass to Stone Smart. And
so now the Chargers are looking out of third and nine.
They're on the green bay ten and I don't and
it's not it's not first and goal like so the
the first down markers right at the goal line, like
with inches to go. So this is one of those situations,
(01:55:14):
kind of the Brandon Staley special, Like if the Chargers
get down close to the first down marker close.
Speaker 7 (01:55:20):
To the goal line, do they go for it on fourth?
Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
They have touchdown? Keenan Allen, Keenan Allen touchdown for the Chargers,
and that is going to give them the lead. So
went in doubt, just throw it to go to the
old pro Keenan Allen really honestly as great a career
as he has had, one of the most underrated receivers
in this league. He can catch the ball on traffic.
(01:55:45):
I mean, that was a heck of a pass by
Herbert right between a couple of defenders. But the Chargers
get the lead, uh, and they're going to try to
add to that lead right now with the extra point.
All right, We're going to roll along here. Which games
will come down to the final gun? You'll find out
this is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. On a third
and goal to five to Bedo takes the snap back fires.
Speaker 11 (01:56:09):
One like the Parks the Witches.
Speaker 7 (01:56:11):
The cutsdown.
Speaker 11 (01:56:13):
Tommy DeVito pits Barkley on.
Speaker 1 (01:56:15):
A third and goal at the five and to Vinos
clonus start cutchdown, pass to the game, Barkley for the
second touchdown.
Speaker 7 (01:56:23):
Cutch to the game.
Speaker 1 (01:56:25):
That's w Fan Giants Radio Network. Giants lead the Commanders
twenty four to twelve inside three minutes to go. Bought
the Commanders first down at the Giants twelve yard line.
Tommy DeVito two hundred and forty six yards passing, three touchdowns,
no picks, despite the fact that he's been sacked nine
times in the game. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio,
(01:56:45):
Steve Harbin and Rich Armberger. We are live from the
tire rack dot Com studios. All right, we got a
lot of things going on right now. The Arizona Cardinals
have a four down at the Texans twenty seven yard line,
and so we're gonna keep our eye in this one.
The Texans leading the Cardinals twenty one to sixteen.
Speaker 4 (01:57:08):
C J.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
Stroud is three hundred and thirty six yards passing, but
he's been intercepted three times in this game, Rich which
is very uncharacteristic. I think he only had two interceptions
all season coming in this game. But this Arizona Cardinals
team is not done yet. So four down, this is it.
At the twenty seven yard line of the Texans. Kyler
(01:57:31):
Murray has been back at quarterback. He hasn't been great,
but good enough to keep him in this game. So
let's just keep our eye on this play right now.
And there is a timeout, all right, So timeout for
the Cardinals right now. Meanwhile, Cleveland and Pittsburgh are tied
at ten. We got a little more than two minutes
to go in this offensive chugger not of a game,
(01:57:52):
I mean it has been.
Speaker 7 (01:57:53):
I hope you took the under. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:57:56):
I don't know what the point total was prior to kickoff,
but I'm sure was low. Any handicappers who were looking
at this Browns offense, especially without Deshaun Watson and starting
DTR for the first time in weeks and weeks now,
and then also seeing what the Pittsburgh Steelers have accomplished
offensively this season, Oh that this was gonna be a
low scoring game.
Speaker 7 (01:58:16):
What do we got?
Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
We have a touchdown pass by the Green Bay Packers
to retake the lead over the Chargers. Love to dubs
right there, twenty two to twenty, penning the extra point
two and a half minutes to go. So after the
Chargers score, the Packers come right back. Extra point is good.
Packers lead the Chargers twenty three to twenty two and
(01:58:38):
a half minutes to go. Meanwhile, the Raiders have a
fourth and sixth at the Miami twenty four yard line
with three minutes to go, trailing the Dolphins by a
score of twenty to thirteen. And watching this play right now,
O'Connell looking to make something happen, and instead he gets sacked. No,
he throws the ball up as he was going down
(01:58:58):
and got interce Oh, by the Dolphins.
Speaker 8 (01:59:03):
You cannot make a bad play worse than this situation.
It's too close to a game with too much time
on the clock to make a mistake like that.
Speaker 7 (01:59:11):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (01:59:12):
All right, so the Dolphins takeover, leading the Raiders twenty
to thirteen three minutes ago. But how about the Packers
as Jordan Love was able to get his team back
on track, By the way, what a game. He's had
three hundred and twenty two yards passing, a couple of touchdowns,
no picks in this game, and once again, this Charger
(01:59:33):
defense has been subpar. I'm being kind right now. This
is not exactly a juggernaut Packers offense, but like so
many teams against a team that has a coach that
was supposed to be some kind of defensive guru, teams
just go up and down the field on this Charger
team week after week.
Speaker 8 (01:59:52):
Well, you know, and the worst part is this overall,
especially losing Joey Bosa, you could argue was a decent
performance from the Chargers. You go into a game with
a game plan, and obviously your game plan is gonna
involve your starters.
Speaker 7 (02:00:06):
Bosa is out for the game. They were able to
limit the damage.
Speaker 8 (02:00:10):
But here late in this one, it looks like green Bay,
I mean, it doesn't just look like a green Bay
has taken all the momentum back with two thirty left to.
Speaker 1 (02:00:19):
Play, spaking a momentum. The Lions have it down by five.
Now they are first down at the Bears thirty four
yard line a minute and a half to go in
the fourth quarter in that game, do you get a
sensor that the or some exciting finishes coming up for
all the latest keeper Right here, this is Fox Sports,
red Zo Radio Love.
Speaker 4 (02:00:37):
Ghost no Huddle takes the snap, he has time, he's got.
Speaker 11 (02:00:41):
Up top, just down clicking crab touch top, touch down
in the left corner of the ends up. Oh what
a frow from Jordan Love to Romeo Top.
Speaker 1 (02:00:54):
That's ninety seven point three of the game. W R
and W Packers Radio Work Packers leading the Chargers twenty
three to twenty and they have the ball a minute
and a half to go in the fourth quarter. In
that game, this is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We're
broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire
rack dot com. We're gonna help get you there and
(02:01:14):
unmatched selection, fast reshipping free road has a protection over
ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the way
tire buying should be. So after the Packers scored, the
Chargers got the ball back three and out, they wisely
punted because there was still two minutes to go and
they have three timeouts remaining, so greenby right now at
their own forty five yard line and they have now
(02:01:37):
got a fourth down and the Chargers use their last timeout,
so the Chargers are going to get the ball back
here again. Twenty three to twenty, Packers leading the Chargers.
But boy that that Charger last drive three and half.
In fact, they ended with a sack of Justin Herbert.
Not what you're expecting. But the big story here, the
(02:02:00):
Detroit Lions come all the way back trailing really this
entire game against the Bears. They get a touchdown, they
got a two point conversion Montgomery with a score on
the run and Rich. The Lions are leading on the
Bears twenty nine to twenty six, just twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (02:02:18):
Seconds out of safety to it, out of safety to it,
Aiden Hutchinson forced to fumble it went out of.
Speaker 1 (02:02:23):
The back of the end zone.
Speaker 7 (02:02:24):
Here.
Speaker 1 (02:02:24):
Wow, game is basically over.
Speaker 8 (02:02:28):
Wow because the Lions get the football back after the safety.
Speaker 1 (02:02:31):
What was the line on this game, by the way, ez.
Speaker 7 (02:02:33):
I mean it had to have been a lot too
a little.
Speaker 1 (02:02:36):
Right, Yeah, on the Lions should have been like a
seven at least seven point favorite a home actually hosting.
Speaker 7 (02:02:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:02:42):
So look, this game is finishing the way it should.
I mean, you know, it sort of feels like balance
has been restored to the force. There's no reason why
the Chicago Bears should beat Detroit the way their season
has been going at home. However, you look at one
of the most important and keyst to in any football
game is the amount of times that the Lions turned
(02:03:04):
it over. That's the reason why this was a close game.
You cannot turn the football over and expect to win
football games, and there was no expectation the Detroit Lions
were gonna win this one. For four turnovers, they had
one loss fumble, and they had three interceptions thrown by
Jared goff to the one turnover for the Bears.
Speaker 7 (02:03:27):
That's the reason why this is close.
Speaker 8 (02:03:28):
You give any team, any team, that many opportunities, and
you are going to pay dearly for it. So the
Detroit Lions will survive the day against the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 1 (02:03:39):
All right. The Commanders trying for a late game miracle,
trailing the Giants twenty four to nineteen, have a third
and two at the Giants forty eight yard line, so
we're gonna keep a time out. They have a time
out right now in the field there. Meanwhile, the Chargers
will start at their own twenty five yard line, actually
at their own twenty yard line, as was a kick
(02:04:02):
out of the end zone. On the punt, Herbert just
fumbled the snap fell on his own fumble. So now
the Chargers are facing a third and four from their
own twenty six yard line, and there is no timeouts
left for the Chargers, so the clock is running as
they're closing in on one minute to go, and they
need something to happen real quick. Here quick pass over
(02:04:25):
the middle is a penalty on Green Bay. Wow on man, wow,
these d backs sometimes, what are you doing? I mean
right there? First of all, it would have been short
of the first down. Yep, the clock would have continued
to run. There was no reason to grab the receiver.
There absolutely none. So not only did they get the
(02:04:47):
first down on the penalty, but they also get to
stop the clock.
Speaker 7 (02:04:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:04:52):
So a costly error in both of those ways, and
the Chargers out of timeouts. I mean, that's that's I mean,
you can't make those mistakes, and that's how you lose
football games. That's what happens when your poorly coach.
Speaker 1 (02:05:07):
Wait, all right, the Cleveland Browns are lining up for
a thirty four yard field goal attempt with five seconds
to go to try to pull this game out against
the Pittsburgh Steelers. The kick is up and the kick
is good. The Cleveland Browns, with Dorian Thompson Robinson at
the helm, looks like they are going to win. There's
two seconds last.
Speaker 3 (02:05:27):
There is a flag.
Speaker 7 (02:05:28):
A flag.
Speaker 1 (02:05:29):
Oh oh, you see Mike Tomlin run over, say throw
a flag, do something help me out here, and they're like, oh,
offside against the defense, that's going to be declined. So
the Cleveland Browns will win this game over the Steelers
to get to seven and three on the season. Look,
they have a phenomenal defense. You know, some people have
(02:05:51):
been talking about Miles Garrett. Not just for Defensive Player
of the Year, how about MVP.
Speaker 8 (02:05:56):
Oh dude, yeah, I mean he is. He is the reason,
I should say, one of the main reasons why the
Cleveland defense or the Cleveland Browns have a pulse. They
advanced to a seven win season with this victory over
the Steelers. And let's be very honest with each other.
As good as the Steelers are, and I mean record wise,
it's all smoking mirrors, I mean this team. I guess
(02:06:18):
you could say the same thing about the Cleveland Browns.
It's not like they've gotten a tremendous effort from their
quarterbacks over the season. But Kenny Pickett is playing like
a backup quarterback. Frankly, Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 1 (02:06:30):
Go oh big plays, hate da interrupt?
Speaker 7 (02:06:33):
He no go ahead.
Speaker 1 (02:06:34):
The Chargers had a big play down the field. Herbert
threw a phenomenal pass and it was dropped. Oh Quinton Johnson,
rookie out of TCU, a big receiver like Mike Williams.
He goes behind the defense, the ball was right in
his hands and he dropped it.
Speaker 8 (02:06:53):
So he's got two receptions on the day for twenty
one yards. And that was an opportunity to potentially score
a touch. He was by himself. So it brings up
fourth and six, twenty three seconds left in the game.
Holy smokes, that is unbelievable. That throw was right there. Meanwhile,
the Giants had put away the Commanders. They just scored again,
(02:07:16):
so the Giants are going to go to three and eight.
Commanders will lose that game at home. The Raiders are
still breathing.
Speaker 1 (02:07:22):
They have a second and ten at the Miami thirty
nine yard line, thirty six seconds to go. Raiders trailing
the Dolphins by a score of twenty two thirteen. So
we'll keep our guy eye on that one. But yeah,
the Chargers down to their final play, and boy, your rookie,
it was the right call. The pass was there.
Speaker 7 (02:07:43):
He just dropped it, just dropped it just I mean
it just like.
Speaker 1 (02:07:47):
Kid, your first round pick. Man, you have got to
catch passes.
Speaker 7 (02:07:50):
Oooooo.
Speaker 8 (02:07:52):
Yeah, and those are the type of passes you absolutely
need your your players to, or I should say that
those are the type of plays you need your first
rounders to. I mean, that's the reason why he's there.
You take him in the first round. The expectation is
he's going to be a franchise changing player.
Speaker 1 (02:08:07):
Unbelievable. The Packers just got called for off sides. Jesus,
what are you doing? I mean, it is it's unbelievable. Sometimes,
so instead of fourth and six, it's fourth and one.
You're on the edge and all you do is watch
the snap of the.
Speaker 11 (02:08:25):
Ball and.
Speaker 3 (02:08:27):
Yeah, yeah, Jalen Jalen Ramsey just ended this Dolphins Raiders game.
Speaker 1 (02:08:32):
He did. Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (02:08:34):
He's down, but I think he just knocked the win
out of himself.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
All right, here we go, now fourth and one for
the Chargers, trying to stay alive. Twenty seconds to go.
The pass is knocked down incomplete, and that is the game.
Speaker 7 (02:08:51):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (02:08:52):
The Chargers will fall to four and six, losing on
the road to the Green Bay Packer.
Speaker 7 (02:09:00):
I mean, it's just a game you can't lose.
Speaker 8 (02:09:02):
Look, this is a game the Chargers absolutely could not
afford to lose. They're not winning this division. There's no
way they're winning this division, not with the Chiefs. And
then you start looking at wins and losses, I mean,
how do they come back from here? They're gonna face
the Ravens next, they get to host them later in
the season. They finish up with a bunch of their
(02:09:24):
division games. Chiefs included they'll face the Bills, They'll face
the Broncos on the road. Never easy to win at Denver,
especially the way they're playing. They go to Foxborough. That's
coming up in two weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:09:36):
Well, let me give you an update. As of the moment,
there are sixteen teams in the AFC. The Chargers are
currently the fourteen seed. This is the only two teams
of worst records right now in the AFC. Are the
Titans and the Patriots.
Speaker 8 (02:09:48):
Well, and look at their company, like, look at their company,
let's be let's be make one thing perfectly clear. The
Chargers have so much more in terms of talent than
the Patriot in the Tennessee Titans. Is there any disagreement.
Speaker 1 (02:10:02):
There, There's none. This gets down to coaching again. Brandon
Staley was brought in as a defensive coach. Have you
seen anything on their defense over three years to indicate
that he is upgraded that defense?
Speaker 14 (02:10:17):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:10:18):
I mean, the only reason they've won as many games
as they have is because they have a talented quarterback.
But even Herbert can't overcome that. So all the games
from the early games are now in the books. By
the way, we didn't update you on the one game
that ended a little bit earlier, and that's the Texans
held on to beat the Cardinals by a score of
twenty one to sixteen. So you're the Chargers sitting at
(02:10:40):
four and six and the Texans are six and four.
Speaker 8 (02:10:43):
Yeah, now, this is one of those one of those games,
or I should say, well, yeah, actually, let's concentrate on
this game and then we'll talk about this season. This
is one of those games, this defeat to the Green
Bay Packers that will go down as one of the
worst in Brandon Staley's career because all eyes are on you, now,
you know, I mean, there's no fair dodging. I mean,
(02:11:04):
this is the professional ranks, this is the NFL, this
is the tippy top of the mountain. You have that
embarrassing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs last year,
and you know, obviously.
Speaker 7 (02:11:15):
Excuses were made.
Speaker 8 (02:11:17):
They come back this season and he has They've reloaded,
he has an even better team on paper than.
Speaker 7 (02:11:22):
He did a season ago.
Speaker 8 (02:11:24):
And to have a four win season through ten weeks,
ten games, it's just unacceptable. So I don't know, Look,
the Chargers have never fired a head coach midseason. And
I'm not even campaigning for Brandon Staley to necessarily lose
his job now or frankly ever. But we know what
the We know what the NFL is. It's a results business.
(02:11:47):
And so while it stinks that people have to lose
their jobs when you're not getting wins, when a team
and I don't know why it didn't work for Josh
McDaniels and why it's working so much better for Antonio Peers,
it is, And to be perfectly honest with you, it
wouldn't shock me if the Chargers had similar results, if
(02:12:07):
they moved on and they found somebody who emotionally could
guide this franchise in a better direction, because it feels
like every time this team gets down, it's like they
make up their mind.
Speaker 7 (02:12:18):
Now we're gonna lose this.
Speaker 1 (02:12:19):
One, all right. Just to update on the AFC side,
the playoffs standings to the moment right now. So your
four division leaders in order of their seating, Chiefs, Ravens, Jaguars,
and Dolphins, and your three wild cards in the moment
are the Browns, who won today over the Steelers. The
(02:12:39):
Texans are the sixth seed, and the Steelers, despite their loss,
are still the seventh seeds. So those are the seatings
right now as far as the AFC are concerned. The
NFC actually a little clearer right now. Eagles won the Lions,
big comfort behind victory to get Dayton too. Forty nine Ers,
Saints four division leaders, and your wild cards are the Cowboys,
(02:13:03):
the Seahawks, and the Vikings. All right, we're gonna continue on.
We got more games coming up. Keep it here. This
is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 2 (02:13:12):
Twenty nine seconds to go, Lions up by three, first
and ten Bears from their own twenty five fields back,
Lions rush four, field four, gonna get.
Speaker 11 (02:13:21):
Hit good on no bat loose. It's not the five.
It's kicked out of the enzone. That's a safety safety.
Speaker 7 (02:13:28):
The Lions are gonna win this game.
Speaker 11 (02:13:30):
Egg Hodgred said.
Speaker 1 (02:13:32):
Knocked it loose, hit one out of.
Speaker 11 (02:13:33):
The back of the enzoe and the Lions in the
lock this one down. What a game, What a game?
Speaker 1 (02:13:41):
Ninety seven to one the ticket Lions radio network shouldn't
have been that close of a game against the lowly Bears.
But the Lions do come back, overcome all their own
mistakes and they get the victory thirty one to twenty six.
By the way, the line on the game was nine
and a half. Bernie, Thank you very much, Bernie Freda
right there giving me the lie in this game. So
no cover for the Lions, but the w is secure
(02:14:04):
once again. It's in Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. We
are live from theentirerack dot com studios and one game
underway right now is the forty nine Ers and the Buccaneers.
We talked to Joe Davis a little bit earlier making
the call for Fox forty nine Ers have the ball.
No score in this game the Buccaneers. Again, it's interesting.
(02:14:26):
We talked earlier about the Baker Mayfield situation in Tampa
rich And he has played well this year overall, but
ironically he's played his best on the road.
Speaker 7 (02:14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:14:38):
One nine touchdown passes, only one interception on the road.
He's only thrown five picks the entire year. Bucks at
four and five, you know, you know, like any team
that comes into this week sitting at four and five,
there's a big difference between five and five and four
and six, Oh, no doubt. This is where you start
to separate the haves and the have nots. We just
(02:14:59):
talked about the Chargers falling to four and six, and
all of a sudden, there's a mountain of teams ahead
of them trying to get back in the playoff chase.
Same thing with the Buccaneers. Look, the forty nine Ers
are huge favorite today, but we'll see if the Bucks
can make this a game.
Speaker 8 (02:15:11):
Well, and they've got competition now at their record. You know,
you have the Green Bay Packers who just get to
win over the Chargers. They're five and six. Now they're
gonna increase their chances of getting into the playoff conversation. Yeah,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the eighth seed in the NFC
wild Card standings, on the outside looking in at the
(02:15:32):
Minnesota Vikings, who have a tough challenge tonight against the
Denver Broncos. So this is a huge game for Tampa
Bay and it's against a really good opponent. And to
your point about Baker Mayfield, if there's one thing we
know about Baker, he plays better when there's any extra motivation,
exactly if there's any naysayers when he's on the road.
Speaker 1 (02:15:51):
He's a chip on the shoulder guy.
Speaker 7 (02:15:53):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (02:15:54):
He sort of feeds off of the negativity created by
others and he likes to prove people wrong, and so
you go into somebody else's home environment and you spoil
the party. It's something that Mayfield's been good at since
he's been in college.
Speaker 7 (02:16:07):
You remember he planted the flag at Ohio State.
Speaker 8 (02:16:10):
He went out there to the Horseshoe and he roomed
the party for the Buckeyes. Maybe he does the same
thing against the San Francisco forty nine ers today.
Speaker 1 (02:16:17):
All right, big game about to kick off right now.
The Jets on the road against the Bills. Jets are
another four and five team, trying to keep their head
above water. But nobody could have predicted that the Bills
would be sitting at five and five right now. That's
where they find themselves. Josh Allen has thrown eleven picks
this year, but it's more than that. The Bills just
(02:16:40):
don't look right. No, And you know, again, good teams
find a way. I mean, the Lions proved it today.
That's a game they should have lost, yep, but they
found a way to win four turnovers.
Speaker 7 (02:16:55):
They should have lost that.
Speaker 1 (02:16:56):
Game, should have lost that game, but they kept their
heads in the game. All the credit to Dan Campbell
and his coaching staff. They got that team thinking right.
Something's missing with McDermott and company. I don't know what
it is, but the last few years the Bills, you know,
we keep talking about Brian Dable and the impact that
(02:17:16):
he had on the development of Josh Allen. Don O, kid,
that's part of it. They fire their offensive coordinator. Let
me ask you that for a second. So Ken Dorsey,
who essentially was promoted in that position at the urgency
of Josh Allen, like Josh Allen was in the Dorsey camp,
(02:17:36):
and then he plays poorly, which leads to the firing
of Dorsey. It's not like the season's loss, right, you're
five and five, you still got seven games to go.
Is firing your offensive coordinator the right decision for this
Bills team at this point?
Speaker 8 (02:17:52):
Well, look, the reality is something needed to change. I
don't know if they needed to fire Ken Dorsey, but
to your point, and I think you know, anybody who
has eyes, there's something very wrong with Josh Allen, and
I don't think they're firing Josh Allen. So something's got
to change. And so I think the easy reach is, hey,
(02:18:15):
let's take a closer look at what we're doing offensively
and let's evaluate how it looks and you know, after
some self scouting and close inspection and probably conversations with
Ken Dorsey about what they need to see out of
this offense, there wasn't any noticeable required changes happening, and
so you have to make hard decisions sometimes. I don't
(02:18:37):
think Sean McDermott wanted to fire him. In fact, I
can also I can also imagine that there's pressure from
above him. You know, you have an ownership group that's
looking to break ground on a new stadium here very soon,
and there's a lot of excitement around this football team
over the years with Josh Allen. What do they have
to show for it? You know, they have one really
(02:18:59):
good would playoff game against Patrick Mahomes where Josh Allen
performed extremely well.
Speaker 7 (02:19:04):
I mean, is that it?
Speaker 1 (02:19:06):
Well, I'll tell you what just happens. So the rookie
Gibson has been a big fine for the Jets. He
just fumbled the opening kickoff. He got absolutely clobbered, wow,
and he fumbled the ball. So the Bills take over
immediately at the Jets twenty one yard line. Now at
the eighteen yard line a second and seven has a
(02:19:28):
big hit to start the game. I mean, he got
absolutely separated from the ball. So this is an opportunity
for the Bills to jump on the Jets early in
this game. And there's a little swing pass to Diggs
that Allen. That was terrible pass and just incomplete. So
now they're looking at a third and seven. Meanwhile, another
(02:19:50):
game just underway the Rams and the Seahawks. And for
the Rams, Matthew Stafford is back at quarterback. How about
them signing Carson Wentz right, who, by.
Speaker 8 (02:20:01):
The way, all week long was operating the scout team.
Listen to this sentence. I actually saw this on Twitter
earlier today or yesterday. So Carson Wentz reportedly did a
really nice job for the Los Angeles Rams pantomiming Gino
Smith for the scout team offense.
Speaker 7 (02:20:22):
Like in what way?
Speaker 8 (02:20:23):
Like if you fell asleep from five years ago and
you woke up today and I said that sentence, you'd
be like, wait, what the hell is going on?
Speaker 1 (02:20:31):
So Wentz is doing it for Gino Smith? Yeah, not
the other way around.
Speaker 8 (02:20:35):
Yeah, So Wentz is the scout team quarterback for the
LA Rams, giving his Rams defense a really good look
at what they're gonna see when Gino Smith faces their defense.
I mean, it's like the world's gone upside down, but
that's that's where we're at. Well, Matthew Stafford and the
Rams are probably healthiest for the first time this year altogether,
(02:20:55):
maybe outside of beginning of the season. Now, even Cooper
Cup was her to start season, so this is probably
the healthiest the Rams has been all season long. Gino
Smith has come back down to earth. I don't know
if you've been watching his performances lately.
Speaker 1 (02:21:07):
But there's six and three.
Speaker 7 (02:21:09):
They're six and three. Seahawks are finding ways to win.
Speaker 8 (02:21:12):
Gino doesn't look quite the way that Gino looked last year.
This offense hasn't looked as consistent as last year. Huge,
huge opportunity for the Seattle Seahawks to get an in
division win and stay in the playoff conversation.
Speaker 1 (02:21:26):
All Right, the Bill's a sack on Josh Allen foresee
in a field goal attempt, which is good. So the
Bills take a three to nothing lead to start this
game against the Jets, and the forty nine ers have
a first and goal. Remember my prediction that Christian McCaffrey
would score a touchdown to start a new streak today,
I think that's one of the safest predictions I've ever
made in my life. And they have a first and
(02:21:48):
goal at Tampa's six yard line. All right, let's find
out what it is trending right now. Once again we've
turned them on seat. So how are your fantasy teams
doing today?
Speaker 9 (02:21:58):
You know, I'd rather not talk about it, if I'm
being honest with you.
Speaker 1 (02:22:01):
It sounds sounds like overall you've had some good seasons.
Speaker 9 (02:22:05):
Sure, No, I'm fine.
Speaker 10 (02:22:06):
I'm fine in two of the three the Guillotine League.
I don't think I want to be chopped. But you know,
you never know.
Speaker 9 (02:22:11):
It was a weird day. It's been a weird season.
Speaker 10 (02:22:13):
You know, a lot of injuries, a lot of unexpected.
Speaker 1 (02:22:17):
I got every year in the NFL is a weird
You don't.
Speaker 10 (02:22:19):
Yes, that's true, but you don't think this year the
injuries are like a little bit more than normal at
this rate.
Speaker 1 (02:22:25):
As I said earlier, they're trying to protect the quarterbacks. Yeah,
and more quarterbacks are dropping than ever than ever.
Speaker 10 (02:22:32):
It's it's just been a more more wild season than expected.
Speaker 9 (02:22:36):
And is that your Christian McCaffrey touchdown? Yes, it is,
mister Hartman, You were right, and I have Christian McCaffrey.
So that's a good.
Speaker 1 (02:22:45):
Is this was the safest prediction in history.
Speaker 7 (02:22:49):
Well, I'll tell you what you called it, Steve.
Speaker 9 (02:22:51):
Good job, good job.
Speaker 1 (02:22:52):
He start a news streak today, and I get because
I knew if they were in story position, they would
guarantee that he would start a new.
Speaker 10 (02:22:59):
Streak and was a wide open, wide opension test.
Speaker 1 (02:23:03):
Maybe should keep an eye on McCaffrey.
Speaker 7 (02:23:05):
No, no, stop it. That would be that would be
too easy.
Speaker 10 (02:23:09):
That would be they kept it on him last week.
He didn't get that touchdown, breaking that streak. So we're
starting anyone. You're right, extra point good for San Francisco.
So they're up early on the Buccaneer seven zero. Late
in the first quarter, the Bills were not able to
do anything. They did get a field goal, so they're
up on the Jets three zero early.
Speaker 9 (02:23:24):
The Seahawks and the Rams just got going.
Speaker 10 (02:23:26):
But eight games in the books four week eleven that
continued today, the Texans beat the Cardinals twenty one sixteen.
Speaker 8 (02:23:33):
C J.
Speaker 10 (02:23:34):
Stroud did have three interceptions, the most he's had, but
he also threw for three hundred and sixty sixty three
hundred and thirty six yards. Excuse me and two touchdowns.
The Jaguars outscored the Titans thirty four to fourteen, Calvin
Ridley's seven receptions one hundred and three yards and two
touchdowns from Trevor Lawrence, who also had two rushing touchdowns.
The Cowboys defeated the Panthers thirty three to ten, Dak
(02:23:56):
Prescott one hundred and eighty nine yards and two touchdowns.
Cowboys owner jer Jones announced today that Jimmy Johnson was
going to be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor,
and everybody said, finally, those were the most of the commons.
Speaker 1 (02:24:08):
I could not believe this. A lot of people said
it would not happen until Jerry Jones died.
Speaker 9 (02:24:13):
Well, it's happening.
Speaker 1 (02:24:15):
I mean, Jimmy Johnson is in the Pro Football Hall
of Fame. It wasn't for Jimmy Johnson, there would be
zero Super Bowl rings on the hands of Jerry Jones.
Well zero.
Speaker 9 (02:24:24):
That happened today, guys. Everybody said, finally.
Speaker 1 (02:24:27):
Glad the former Arkansas teammates back in the day finally
made him end.
Speaker 9 (02:24:32):
Yeah, yeah, it's about time.
Speaker 7 (02:24:35):
Browns.
Speaker 10 (02:24:35):
They walked off with the field goal to beat the
Steelers thirteen to ten.
Speaker 9 (02:24:39):
Dorian Thompson Robinson, you're u CLA guy. DTR.
Speaker 1 (02:24:43):
Good week for UCLA, Yes, counting sc and now DTR
is a winner in the and the fans.
Speaker 10 (02:24:49):
Were chanting DTR at the end of that game, so
that must feel good. All he had to do was
just manage the game. He figured it out. Browns get
the win. The Lions. They scored fourteen points in the
fourth quarter to come back and beat the Bears thirty
one to sixteen. The Packers, they edged the Chargers twenty
three to twenty.
Speaker 9 (02:25:06):
It's just annoying.
Speaker 10 (02:25:07):
Keenan Allen, though had ten receptions one hundred and sixteen
yards and one touchdown in the loss. The Dolphins held
on to beat the Raiders twenty to thirteen. Jalen Ramsey
with a late fourth quarter interception to seal the win.
Dolphins did lose running back to Von eight Chan again
with a knee injury, and the Giants with the thirty
one to nineteen victory over the Commander's Tommy Davito two
(02:25:28):
hundred and forty six yards three touchdowns, two of them
went to Saquon Barkley, and he was sacked nine times.
Speaker 1 (02:25:35):
Nine nine time, nine nine times but you know he
won well. I mean that's Daniel Jones was sacked a lot,
wasn't he didn't he have like an eleven.
Speaker 8 (02:25:47):
Well before he left the seat for the well, I
should say for the neck injury. Prior to the ACL
he was sacked something like thirty three times in six games.
Speaker 7 (02:25:57):
It was wild?
Speaker 5 (02:25:58):
Was he?
Speaker 9 (02:25:58):
That sounds off?
Speaker 1 (02:26:00):
I mean, Deno hanging in there all right? Well, MONSI great.
Speaker 9 (02:26:03):
Stuff always always a pleasure, fellas.
Speaker 1 (02:26:06):
There it is. By the way, I want to jump
ahead a little bit here. So we got these three
games underway and talk about this Monday night matchup, the
Super Bowl rematch between the Eagles and the Chiefs. Now,
we talk about, you know, safe predictions. Before the season began,
you have those over unders, and the over unders for
both the Eagles and the Chiefs win wise was eleven
(02:26:27):
and a half, and both of us were like thinking,
is there any way that either the Eagles or Chiefs
lose six games? Because again, eleven and a half means
twelve and five year a winner. Like if they lose
six eleven and six, then you're a loser. And I'm thinking,
is there any way the Eagles or Chiefs lose six
(02:26:51):
games this year. Well, right now, it would appear likely
that neither one of these teams will lose six games,
bar and of course a catastrophic injury to their quarterbacks.
But what do you think of this matchup? What's interesting
about this game to me is the line on the game.
Chiefs at home are only a two and a half
(02:27:12):
point favorite. Remember, home field usually means three points, meaning
that on a neutral side at least the Eagles would
be a slight favorite in this game. Sure, what's interesting
about both these teams? Because we think about that offensive
shootout we saw in the Super Bowl. Both of these
(02:27:32):
teams have been subpar offensively from where we thought they
were going to be at this point of the season.
So what do you make of the matchup?
Speaker 8 (02:27:40):
Well, first of all, it's the best matchup on the board,
maybe the entire season, considering how well both of these
teams have played, especially when you look at their record
up to this point. This is the Super Bowl teams
from last year, and it's rare actually that you get
to see both teams that appeared in the Super Bowl
have success following a Super Bowl year. The Chiefs obviously
(02:28:04):
used to this, They've been doing it for years now
with Patrick Mahomes repeating success after repeating success. But the
Philadelphia Eagles, I mean this was their first bite at
the apple for Nick Sirianni Jalen Hurts, this group on
defense that only added more draft picks this offseason to
improve their lots. It's amazing where both of these teams
(02:28:29):
are because there's been no letdown record wise.
Speaker 11 (02:28:32):
Now.
Speaker 8 (02:28:33):
I do think that they both look different. The Chiefs,
they don't look as coordinated on offense. At times, we're
still seeing some of those early season struggles rear their
heads with the way Travis Kelsey has played at times,
with the way that Patrick Mahomes has meshed with this
young receiving group, although there have been some players emerging.
Rashie Rice, I mean, he's a really nice player in
(02:28:55):
this offense. And you know, Andy Reid's gonna find ways
to attack defenses no matter who he has out there.
And then the same could be saying for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles have had their struggles. They've won a lot
of close games, which suggests that well, that's good, right,
you want to win a lot of close games.
Speaker 7 (02:29:13):
That's really good. You got it.
Speaker 8 (02:29:16):
I mean, you're either going to have a winning record
or a losing record, and a lot of those games
are going to come down to one score in the NFL,
and so that's really good. But for a Super Bowl team,
For as much as we spoke about them this offseason,
especially evaluating their roster, it felt like they were going
to be world beaters out there, and they really have
looked very mortal this year. So this is a compelling
(02:29:38):
matchup from that standpoint as well. Two teams at the
top of their conferences meeting after meeting each other in
the Super Bowl. I mean, what more could you want?
Prime time Monday night football. This is going to be
a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (02:29:52):
Yeah, it is going to be a lot of fun.
By the way, the Chiefs are only averaging twenty three
points a game, and even that's a little inflated because
he put up forty one on the hapless Bears earlier.
So this offense, and then they had this crazy stat
where Mahomes has had what six games this year where
he's had at least ten different receivers in the game. Yeah,
(02:30:16):
some crazy stats. So, I mean, obviously Kelsey is his
number one target, but outside of that, they're spreading around.
By the way. They're also posting, you know, like all
the time. Now you know Kelsey's numbers with them without
Taylor Swift in attendance. And then she's got to be
there for Monday Night football, right yeah, yeah, I mean
(02:30:37):
I know she's She's all over the map right now.
Can we get Moncey's mic on for a second, hear, guys,
I believe we've heard.
Speaker 8 (02:30:44):
Now Monzie can confirm, but I believe we've heard that
this is Moncey.
Speaker 1 (02:30:47):
Do we have where Taylor Swift is? Is she going
to be in Kansas City tomorrow night or she for sure.
Speaker 9 (02:30:54):
Her parents are going.
Speaker 10 (02:30:55):
And I do know that one of her shows was canceled, right,
so I think she should be there now that the
show was canceled, and she was always gonna have a break.
Speaker 9 (02:31:06):
I just didn't know if it was, you know, Monday.
Speaker 1 (02:31:09):
Night football, it's prime time, it's the rematch to the
super Bowl. She's got to be there now. He's got
to cancel shows, whatever it takes. Shows.
Speaker 7 (02:31:18):
Oh no, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (02:31:20):
Changing lyrics in her songs and everything else. I love that.
Speaker 9 (02:31:24):
Stop it, stop it.
Speaker 7 (02:31:25):
Well, so check this out.
Speaker 8 (02:31:26):
So, I mean, obviously not for the reason she won,
but this Brazil show was canceled due to heat after
actually a fan died during.
Speaker 10 (02:31:35):
They didn't let them take water inside like the venue,
which is stupid and obviously.
Speaker 1 (02:31:43):
Well, first of all, lawsuits galore if that's the case.
Speaker 9 (02:31:46):
If that's the case.
Speaker 10 (02:31:47):
So, according to Vanity Fair, Taylor Swift is skipping Monday's game.
Speaker 8 (02:31:52):
Okay, all right, I will say I will say this.
God helped Travis Kelsey then, because he has not look
the same without Taylor Swift.
Speaker 7 (02:32:02):
In the booth.
Speaker 10 (02:32:04):
Yeah yeah, but maybe because the parents are there, he's
gonna step up.
Speaker 7 (02:32:07):
Yeah, it's possible. Yeah, trying to MoMA and Papa Swift.
Speaker 1 (02:32:12):
Yeah, sure, Mark Shlaittz, what game did he work today? Guys?
Speaker 3 (02:32:16):
The Lions Bears?
Speaker 1 (02:32:17):
Lions? Oh, are we gonna get him on this? We're
going to try to get him on Okay, So should
we take a little breaking to Hogan Schlert on the
other side, let's do that. Will check in on that
unbelievable come for me I win by the Lions at
home against the Bears. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Speaker 11 (02:32:32):
Thirty two seconds remain.
Speaker 13 (02:32:35):
Aiden O'Connell the rookie to Remimi thirty nine yard line
back to throw looking looking lots of time, goes deep to.
Speaker 11 (02:32:43):
The end and it's intercepted by Jalen Ramsey. So makes
a tremendous diving interception. His second of the ball game
is third.
Speaker 7 (02:32:52):
In the year. And there is your MVP right there.

All right, let's get an update on that big come
from behind win the Lions over the Bears.
Speaker 4 (02:33:37):
It's time for the NFL on Fox Focus.
Speaker 1 (02:33:41):
Tonia's right now. The three time Super Bowl champion, two
time Pro bowler, every buddy Mark Slurreth is joining us
once again. So Mark, you played on a lot of
great teams during your NFL career, and one thing about
really good teams in the NFL, they find ways to
win games that many times they should lose. Today was
(02:34:01):
a day when the Lions should have lost with all
the turnovers, and they have found a way to win
that game. Are you a believer in this Detroit Lions
team moving forward?
Speaker 14 (02:34:15):
Oh? I don't think there's any I don't think there's
any question that I'm a believer. I mean, you know,
talent wise, they're an unbelievably talented football team, but they
are tough minded, and they're physically tough. And when you
physically wear people out and you're tough minded, you create pressure,
and pressure creates mistakes. And you know, that's what they've
been able to do. And even though they had the
(02:34:37):
turnovers and three interceptions by Jared Golf, they stayed true
to their formula. Even with you know, two and a
half three minutes left and needing two touchdowns, they continue
to run the football, to throw the ball underneath and
set up a couple of big plays over the top.
So I just thought there was there was no flinching
the Detroit Lions. There was no panic by the Lions,
(02:34:57):
which I thought was huge.
Speaker 8 (02:34:58):
Yeah, they struggled to art the game. The two interceptions
by golf in the two opening drives, followed by touchdown touchdown,
and then coming out of the half punt fumble interception.
But as you mentioned, they found a way to rally,
score points and win the game. Why did they struggle
so much to start the game and coming out at
the half? Was it something the Bears were doing or
(02:35:19):
was it just a bad day at the office for
this offense.
Speaker 14 (02:35:23):
Well, really, it was one of those things where you know,
just a little bit out of rhythm, a little bit
of sync, and and you know, the first pick was
they're running a slant route and they're an Amanda Man
coverage off of blitz and the the underneath defender is
rolling out to take the flat, you know, the running
back out of the flat, and he runs in to
(02:35:45):
Sam Laporta and who's running a slant against the corner
and tight ends run a slant that gets picked off
and Jarrek Goff is throwing it right to an area
where he's going to be and so now the corner
is there, right, the tight end should be between him
and the corner. The quarterback and the corner and he's
not there because he got picked off by by another player,
Jakwan Brisker. And so there's the first interception, you know,
(02:36:07):
and there's another interception that's tipped ball out of the
line on the line of scrimmage that creates another one.
So you know, not all those interceptions are created the same.
It's not Jared Ballet's like. Those are a couple of
unfortunate situations that happened, and yet they were able to
battle back. And one of the big things they did
is they you know, they had that they had that
(02:36:28):
deficit that they had overcome, and yet they stayed true
to kind of who they were. They went back to
trying to get into rhythm by running the ball first,
setting up their play action. They got themselves back in
the rhythm and scored, you know, two touchdowns coming back
from those two interceptions or the two turnovers.
Speaker 1 (02:36:43):
Mark on the other side, justin Fields played well today
as passer rating was over one hundred. He also ran
for more than one hundred yards. The Bears are sitting
at three and eight. They also owned Carolina's number one pick.
They currently have the worst record in the NFL. What
do you think are they going to stay with Justin
Fields or if they're afforded the opportunity with the first
(02:37:04):
pick in the draft to they go for a Caleb Williams.
What's your sense in the Bears commitment moving forward with
Justin Fields?
Speaker 14 (02:37:11):
Well, I think that I think that remains to be seen.
I mean, I think they're trying to figure that out
as we speak. And Justin Fields was great now the
way they played the game, you know, like, how sustainable
is that form of offense with having a you know,
a quarterback who is running it as much as he's
throwing it. And he was exceptional today and I thought,
(02:37:32):
I mean, I thought he played well both in the
passing game. They changed the launch angles, they did a
bunch of things for him to create success. But the
bottom line is how how much can you do that?
You know, how long can can you do that for
and not have him be a pocket kind of drop
back passer, which, like I think you know they're transitioning
that way, but the guy is an exceptional player and
(02:37:55):
obviously an exceptional athlete, then it just becomes, you know,
can you get that done on a concert the basis
We'll see, But I will tell you this. You know,
remember Young was a first overall pick that they took
with Chicago's. When they traded that pick, they drafted Bryce Young,
and that kid has struggled so far. So you know,
(02:38:16):
you never know what a guy's going to transition to
and what that transition will be like going from college
game to the professional game.
Speaker 8 (02:38:22):
So the Lions get the victory there, they stay on
top of their division. I want to look at another
divisional matchup in the NFC North, facing a team you're
very familiar with, the Denver Broncos. Love your coverage of
that team, and I love your honesty about some of
the things you saw, especially offensively from the Denver Broncos
over the first part of the season, their receivers, and
(02:38:43):
how Russ had been playing. Overall, a one in five
football team has racked off now three straight wins. What
are you expecting to see from Denver tonight against the.
Speaker 14 (02:38:53):
Vikings Rich much of the same stuff. I mean, you've
got to run the football. You got to take to me,
you've got to have thirty five runs with your running
back somewhere in there. Thirty five runs? How many runs
you use Russ on? That's kind of going to be
the formula and then set up the play action. The
quick passing game has to be outside of the numbers
(02:39:13):
because he doesn't see well over the top. But they've
really done a good job of saying, Okay, here's what
Russ is good a we go back to the play
action stuff that he was good at, you know, the
pet the deep you know, seven man protection, deep stuff
over the top, like, that's what we've got to go with.
That's how you know we're gonna win. And they've really
(02:39:33):
done a good job and Sean Payne's done a good
job of saying, this is what Russ is, this is
what he does well, here are the things that he
doesn't do well. We're gonna mitigate the things that he
doesn't do well or stick with the things that he does.
Speaker 7 (02:39:44):
And so they run.
Speaker 14 (02:39:45):
The ball exceptionally well with Williams and with McLoughlin. They've
been really good. And that's kind of how they how
they've made this thing go and how they've turned this
thing around so far.
Speaker 1 (02:39:55):
Well, Mark, I tell you what has always it's great
to catch up with you. Thanks so much. We'll talk
to you down the road.
Speaker 14 (02:40:00):
Sounds good, guys, Sank sure, that's Mark.
Speaker 1 (02:40:02):
Schlur joining us right there. Meanwhile, forty nine ers now
lead the Bucks ten nothing bills over the Jets six nothing,
and the Seahawks get on the board first against the Rams.
They lead that game seven to nothing. Rich and another
unbelievable day around the National Football League.
Speaker 7 (02:40:18):
YEP, looking forward to the Sunday night or tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:40:21):
Keep it right here. This is Fox Sports Radio.
