Speaker 2 (00:25):
We got six games about to kickoff around the NFL.
Saints at the Falcons, Steelers at the Bengals, Panthers at
the Titans, Buccaneers at the Colts, Patriots at the Giants,
Jaguars at the Texans, and Rich I haven't thought as
we get ready for this Sunday around the National Football League,
I want to center on one of these games about

(00:46):
to kickoff between the Patriots and the Giants.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
The winner of this game is a loser.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Winning this game is a losing proposition for either one
of these teams, because if you're the Patriots or the Giants,
you want to lose out. You want that opportunity to
have one of those premiere picks to hopefully find somebody
that's going to generate a turnaround in your organization. So

(01:16):
you got one of these matchups between the Patriots and
the Giants.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
There's been a.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Matchup of a couple of Super Bowls, not all that
long ago. You were part of one of those. But
these are two franchises that have had some great history
that have completely fallen off the charts. So I dare say,
whichever team wins this game today is actually going to
walk off the field a loser.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah. Well, look, I.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Don't disagree entirely with what you're saying, especially when you
look how loaded this year's NFL draft is with quarterback talent.
And when you look at both of these teams, what's
the most glaring and obvious thing missing from the formula,
it's quarterback talent zones. Over the years, he's just he
hasn't really become what the Patriots were hoping the fifteenth

(02:07):
overall pick three years ago was going to pan out
to become. And sam could be said about Daniel Jones,
even though they gave him a contract and he look,
I mean this seasonwithstanding because I realized there were injuries,
and I realized he was playing behind a Swiss cheese
offensive line to start the season, and he was just
being completely harassed whenever he was dropping back. But still,

(02:31):
I mean, are we sold on Daniel Jones as a
top fifteen quarterback even on an annual basis?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I'm not so. If you're looking forward.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
And you're not concentrating on the moment, and you're not
a prisoner of the now, and you're thinking about how
do these franchises improve, Well, the cheapest, best, fastest, easiest
way for them to improve is by having a pretty
high draft pick.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
All right, And speaking of quarterbacks, Rich think about this.
So scoring is on the steep decline right now over
the last few years in the NFL. Remember a couple
of years ago and you and I were talking about, Wow,
this is just a new golden age of quarterbacks in
the NFL. Look at all this talent at quarterback. I'm
not saying that anymore. We got a lot of quarterbacks

(03:18):
in this league that are going in reverse. Josh Allen's
going in reverse. I mean, right now, Patrick Mahomes is
twelfth in the league in passer efficiency. Now, it's not
all him. Obviously doesn't help any wide receivers can't catch
the football. But this idea that we were in such
a golden age of great young talent at quarterback that

(03:38):
we were talking about just a couple of years ago
is not actually panning out now.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
If that is we overrated the talent at the quarterback position,
or defensive have figured out a way to discombobulate these
spread offenses that are so popular around the NFL. I'm
not quite sure. But scoring is down the offense. It's
a firepower that we thought was there is not on
display right now in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
So what is it?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Because, as we mentioned, we've got we got about eight
to ten teams right now battling to get Caleb Williams
as the number one overall pick in the draft, hoping
that he will be that quarterback, that transcended quarterback that's
going to take him to the Promised Land. What happened
to all that talent we were bragging about at the
quarterback position.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Well, I mean, look around the league and see how
much flux there has been not only at the quarterback position,
but at the offensive coordinator position over the past two years.
And that gives you an idea of why some of
the scoring is down.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
A lot of these.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Players, a lot of these quarterbacks, specifically haven't been playing
in the same system for very long. Justin Herbert. It's
all the names you know, by the way, Justin Herbert
brand new offensive coordinator this year, Dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy
takes over play calling after they move on from Kellen Moore,
Patrick Mahomes, Matt Naggi is the new offensive court after
the enemy left. Josh Allen new coordinator last year, fired

(05:05):
mid season.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
This year.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
You look at Trevor Lawrence, new offensive coordinator and head
coach last year, I mean Russell Wilson. Two offensive coordinators,
two head coaches over the past two seasons, three offensive
coordinators over the past three. So it's weird, man like,
the NFL is going through this strange change of guards.

(05:28):
Not only quarterbacks but also offensive minded coaches are in
complete flux right now, and I think it's having a
real strong effect on how congealed and consistence these offenses
are looking all right.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
So right now, the biggest game on the board right
now is this Texas Jaguars team is a game as
both teams are battling for that division title. The Jags
were expected to be there. Nobody predicted this for the Texas.
Now we talk about quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
C J.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Stroud has stepped in and obviously had an MVP level
start to his season. However, however, three picks last week
rich and he get a sense with a young quarterback
that when you start feeling good about yourself, all of
a sudden, you start, I don't know, forcing things a
little bit, maybe trying to make a few throws to

(06:15):
be a little more heroic. It's only human nature. It's
not taken away from what CJ. Strout has done, but
it could be a warning sign of let's not get
ahead of ourselves. A prime example of this is a
guy like Brock Purdy who sort of stayed in his lane.
You know, when they had some injuries and he started
to misfire a little bit.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
You could see what happened.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
But once he got his talent back, he settled down
and just again, stay in your lane, get the ball
in the right hands, and let them do.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
All the work. So that would be my only concern
about c J. Stroud.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
But at least there is a quarterback who comes out
of the draft and actually exceeds the expectations in his
rookie season.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
Well, listen, not all interceptions are equal, and I think
that it is a common frame from quote unquote analysts
to look at interception to touchdown ratio and say, oh, well,
there it is too many picks. It's like, well, is
it too many picks or is it receivers getting hit
in the hands and having a ball bat it in
the air? Is it a fluke interception? Look, you can

(07:17):
easily have a three interception game if you're in a shootout,
which the Texans were in that win. And so I
don't hold it again c J. Stroud to have one
outing where A he threw a couple more picks then
he's used to throwing because he's only thrown five on
the season. And also, b it was a game where
they absolutely needed CJ. Stroud to get the victory. So CJ. Stroud,

(07:42):
in my book, what I watched last game doesn't degrade
what I've seen over the course of his season. And
yet you're right, there are sometimes, you know, falsely confident
players in the NFL. I don't get that read from
him at all. I think this guy has a good
head on his shoulders, and I think he's taken it
vice from some good people around him. I mean, specifically,

(08:02):
Tom Brady appears to have created a kinship with him.
The way he talks about football is the way you
want a confident athlete talking about his game. After that game,
he said, look, did Steph Curry ever stop shooting after
a tough night at the three point line? The answer
is no, Steph Curry's going to punch a ticket to
all Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
And if CJ.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Stroud continues on doing what he's doing as a rookie,
he may have a similar type career after, you know,
playing for a decade. He obviously has a long way
to go, you get my drift, but he's off to a.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Great start, all right.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
So I'm watching this Giants Patriots game. I was about
to say the praise of Tommy DeVito. I mean, he
had a couple of big plays, and next thing you know,
he fumbled and Patriots recover. And then of course immediately
with the Patriots very predictable three and out and they
just punted again. Mac Jones is starting a quarterback for
the Patriots. This is an organization that is a complete disarray.

(09:00):
All week long, they were trying to hold out in
terms of who was going to start a quarterback, and
all I was thinking is does it really matter. I mean,
it doesn't really matter between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappi
who's going to start a quarterback for the New England Patriots.
I mean, you talk about a non story either way.
Both these quarterbacks are inept in a system that Bill

(09:20):
O'Brien brought in as new offensive coordinator that neither quarterback
has been able to execute.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, yeah, I completely agree with you. I don't think
it really matters much in terms of this season. I
think it may matter in terms of predicting forward. Look,
Zach Wilson became a good soldier and fell right in
line behind Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
You know, I mean, I give Zach Wilson a lot
of credit.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
He wasn't pitch perfect with the media a year ago,
but he spent this offseason learning from an old pro
and when he started the season with Aaron Rodgers taking
the reinses to starting quarterback in New York. I actually
I think he won a lot of respect back from
the locker room. I think he won a lot of
respect back from the media because it seemed like he
was ready to accept his new role and help the

(10:07):
team anyway he could. Well, Aaron Rodgers goes down he's
foisted back into action. You see a lot of the
same old Zach Wilson. But prior to that, he was
a good soldier. I think they're trying to find out
if there's a good soldier in the quarterback room.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Well, they also have a question at Coach Robert Sala
was asked after the debacle on Friday whether or not
he was worried about job secure, and he said absolutely not.
I'm good and I'm looking. I'm like his record is
fifteen and thirty, right right, fifteen and thirty in three
years as a head coach in the NFL. Woody Johnson

(10:45):
is very unpredictable. I mean, we don't know how the
owner of the Jets is going to fly on this.
But the idea that it doesn't matter how many games
we lose the rest of this year, I'm good. No
coach with a record fifteen and thirty is secure.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
In their job.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
So I got news for Robert Sala And by the way,
his demeanor on the sidelines, I don't know if you've
been watching this, it just seems to be like this,
all right, Okay, I was dealt a bad hand. I
thought I was gonna have Aaron Rodgers as my quarterback.
I'm just going to go through this. You know, he was,
you know, defending Zach Wilson week after week, and they
throw Tim Boyle out there. They had no passes outside
of a hail mary over ten yards and then the

(11:26):
hail mary gets run back for a pick six. Does
this team look like they're well connected? No, fifteen and thirty,
Robert Sally show the door.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
They going to start there.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
I mean, Dan Campbell was twelve and twenty one through
his first two seasons with the Detroit Lions. Now, granted,
they finished that second season with a winning record and
finished strong, finished strong, like the Detroit Lions really finished
the season strong.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
But but you look at.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Robert Sala's not Dan Campbell.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
No, no, don't. I don't think he is.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
I think that he's a very least a good placeholder
culture builder until they find the coach they want.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah, I mean, at very least a very most.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Guy was a very good defensive coordinator. But rich being
a good coordinator does not make you a head coach.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
But hang on, at very most, he's a good motivator.
Locker room seems to like him. Players play hard for him.
He's got a great defense, and that's what he's what
he's paid to do. Part of what he's paid to
do is come in there and make sure the defense
isn't the problem.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
They haven't been. And to be.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
Perfectly honest with you, he's got a pretty good excuse
when you are relying on a Hall of famer to
come in and win you a bunch of football games.
And we all know how different the New York Jets
would look this season with Aaron Rodgers as opposed to
Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle starting at quarterback.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
And he goes down. It is an excuse.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
It may not be the right excuse for Woody Johnson,
and you may be right, like New York, it's a
pressurized situation from a sports media standpoint.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
They may make a move.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
On Robert Sala, But I'm always in favor unless things
are going really, really long, like an Urban Meyer situation
in Jacksonville. I'm more interested in letting it bake, letting
a guy build the culture, and seeing if when you
do have health at the quarterback position, a player who's
supposed to be on the field with you, let's see

(13:25):
what happens. Then I'd be very curious if Aaron Rodgers
comes back next season and Robert sala is still there,
how different this team looks?

Speaker 3 (13:33):
All right?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
I want purposely long in our opening segment hoping that
someone would score. No one has scored yet. We got
six games and they're all no score. We're just getting started.
Here for all the scores, all the stats, everything you
need for your NFL Sunday, keep it right here.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
All right, we got the holiday music going on. That's
the thing that what we expected this time of year.
We also expect to have touchdown highlights. We don't have
any act zero. This is Fox Sports. We're at Zone Radio.
We're live from the Tirak dot com studios. I do
not remember us going in or coming out of our
first break without a highlight of a touchdown. We had

(15:05):
three field goals so far. By the way, Steelers Bengals,
so Joe Burrow is officially out for the year after
the wrist surgery. They say they're very confident that Jake
Browning can pick up the pieces and lead the Bengals
the rest of the way.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Well, he just completed a pass, which is good news.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Jake Browning has been in the system for a couple
of years here Rich and he knows the full playbook.
So they feel comfortable that they don't have to hold
anything back with Jake Browning at the quarterback position. They're
five and five right now, so technically they're still in
the mix. Do you see the Bengals rallying around Jake

(15:50):
Browning or with the.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Loss of Joe Burrow. It's like we'll see in twenty
twenty four.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, look, I think it's possible they stick around. It
comes down to Jake brown because we saw what the
Cincinnati Bengals looked like with seventy five sixty percent of
Joe Burrow to start this season.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Remember with that calf injury.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
They look pretty bad, right, that was a one win
team through the first four games.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
They look pretty bad.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
It was a pretty desperate situation for the Cincinnati Bengals
with whatever percentage we want to put on Joe Burrow,
but he wasn't one hundred percent. So now you look
at Jake Browning and you say, well, what percentage of
Joe Burrow is Jake Browning? Right, because we've already seen
what the Bengals look like with a sixty percent or
a seventy percent Joe Burrow, Well is Jake Browning even that?

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I mean, so, I don't think the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Are going to be all that good this year unless
Browning plays really high, to a much higher expectation or
potential than I think a lot of people are envisioning
for him. Well, I will say this, the Steelers are
off to a very Steelers start to this game. They
punted on their opening drive and then it was a
three and hour for the Bengals. They were putting together

(17:02):
something offensively. The Steelers got it all the way down
to a third and two at the Cincinnati fifteen when
Warren fumbled it gave it back to Cincinnati. So since
the ball end of the first quarter deep in their
own territory, for their second drive, we'll see what happens.
I mean, and this is a Pittsburgh Steelers team that
can feast on opposing offenses. Because defensively, I mean, Tomlin's

(17:26):
got that thing humming again. But offensively it is tragically underwhelming.
With Kenny Pickett at quarterback.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Interesting though, they're actually getting some yards here and Pickett
is six or seven sixty six yards. I want to
correct myself. I said Jake Browne completed a pass. It
must have been a dream I had last night. He's
actually zero for one. He got sacked for six yard loss,
so he negative three total yards for the Bengals to
start up this matchup against the Steelers. But as you mentioned,
Steelers fumble, so the Bengals get the ball back. Saints

(17:56):
and Falcons another very mediocre matchup with two teams. Derek
Carr is off to a pretty good start right now
in this game four for six for sixty two yards.
Desmond Ritter is back in a quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
But I want to stay with Derek Carr for.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
A moment here in New Orleans. How would you evaluate
his season so far? I mean, at five and five,
they're in the mix. In fact, technically they're in the
playoffs right now, leading that division. Is that enough to
convince you that Derek Carr has been a plus signing
for the New Orleans Saints.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Gosh, it's so hard to say, right because you look
at the stats, you look at the games even and
Derek Carr. You've never been completely floored by Derek Carr
in any of these games. And then he gets hurt
and Jamis Winston has to take over. So I will
say this though, when you have a veteran at quarterback

(18:54):
who understands the offense you're running, who can help teach
the offense to the rest to the players, it does
empower the group around him to trust him more. And
I think the reason why they brought in John Gruden
this offseason was to help encourage everybody to really follow
Derek Card's lead. And look, the Saints are winning because

(19:18):
of their defense. I don't want to sugarcoat this and
make this sound like I'm not a Derek Carr fanboy.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
I like his game. I think he's a talented quarterback.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
I think he's looked off since he's made this move
to New Orleans. Remember a lot of people have adjustment
time periods when they start a new job at a
different office, right, And the same is true in the NFL.
Like you could be The same is true in every sport.
You could be a cy Young Award winner with one team.

(19:47):
You could move to another team in trade or free agency,
and you could really struggle at first because you don't
know anybody's names, and you're uncomfortable, unfamiliar new ballpark. Like
it just it takes time sometimes. Well, the same is
true for NF quarterbacks, the same is true for everybody.
It looks like he's a little bit uncomfortable in New Orleans.
We'll see if the second half of.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
The season, coming back from injury, it looks any better.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Well, we get a touchdown today, is the biggest question.
The Titans had a first and goal at the Carolina
one yard line. They had a time out, and I
think they just got called for a penalty out of
a timeout.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
I mean, this has been great.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
This has been absolutely And by the way, when when
you comment about the Saints winning with their defense, almost
every team this year is winning with their defense. Yeah,
I mean the Chiefs, they're winning with their defense. I mean,
you go after you know. This gets back to my
initial comment about offenses down, scoring down, quarterback play down.
I mean, look, the forty nine ers offense at full

(20:47):
throttle is still there. Miami has been winning games with
their offense more so than their defense.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
But those are few and far between.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
There aren't a lot of dynamic offenses that are in
full throttle right now around the National Football League. All right,
So we now have a second goal for the Titans again.
They're at the Carolina one yard line after a no gain.
The Colts did get a field goal to tie up
their game. But this is the perfect time for us
to find out what is trending right now. By the way,

(21:16):
shortly after the show, our podcast will be going on.

show posted right after we get off the air. All right,
let's find out what is trending right now. Brian Finley

(21:38):
is in today. So saw you yesterday, bets Ben, you
had a late, late, late late night doing postgame UCLA
talk after their humiliating loss at the Rose Bawl last
ever regular season PAC twelve game as we know it,
And now you're back and you got zero highlights to
give us right now?

Speaker 7 (21:58):
Well, on, way a minute, I think we might just
have seen Derek Henry get into the end zone.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Is first touchdown of the day.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Wow, seven over the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Were those field goal highlights? Yeah? I mean, who doesn't
enjoy a good field goal kicking? Count?

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Nobody likes field goal Okay, that's fair, and.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
I'm sure Rich might have some feelings about our field
goal kickers, actually football players.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Oh my god, can you see how I get a
field goal kicker?

Speaker 2 (22:29):
I've never seen a worse field goal kicker than they
have this year, he actually missed more field goal attempts
than he made.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
He missed last night a twenty three yarder. Yeah, and
well do you miss e It wasn't blocked. I said,
it wasn't blocked. I mean just whiffed, you know what
it was like. That actually is a hard you know,
because he's on the hash right, it's twenty three yards.
Think of it like this, guys, Like if you guys
have ever taken a three pointer from the corner and

(22:56):
banked it? Ye, Like it's that kind of angle. It's
like it's really challenge and yeah, it's it should never
have happened.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
But it's all year long.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
I mean nowadays it's just yeah, we'm a recent by
fire Chip Kelly. Well, it is trending right now on
I passed something about that this one's seen enough a chuck.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Yes, s he mailed in that game just to ensure
that Chip Kelly wasn't going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
I mean it was unbelievable thirty three to seven last
night at home to cal.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
You say he mailed in that game, So Chip Kelly.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
Stay, Yeah, they want watch Kelly to stay at u
c l A because he's so unrest guys, the highest
paid person in the UC system six point one million
dollars for that slop.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Where do I sign up?

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Man?

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Oh Man, I'm on fire to this mister.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Mister Hartman has an axe to grind my friends, I do.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
I like this fiery version of Steve Hartman.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
He's out his coffee this morning.

Speaker 7 (23:51):
He has, he has, and so yeah, a lot of
field goals as far as the six games that are
going on in this first window of the NFL. Saints
are up three to nothing against the Falcons under four
minutes ago in the first quarter. Derek car Though has
one hundred and twenty two yards passing already, so he
has been moving the football, including a fifty two yard
completion to Chris Olave. Steelers and Bengals no score there

(24:14):
under two minutes to play in the first quarter, and
Naje Harris three carries sixteen yards a whole lot of nothing.
As Rich was mentioning typical Steelers there offensively, we did
mention the Titans are on the bard with a touchdown.
Derrick Henry did score and it's seven to nothing Titans
against the one to nine Panthers just seconds to go
in the first quarter. Will Levis ninety nine yards through

(24:35):
the air as the starting quarterback for Tennessee. And a
battle of field goals here between both teams Buccaneers and Colts.
Three at peace three minutes in the first quarter. Baker
Mayfield had come out of this game when he was
going for a goal on QB sneak injured, and so
Kyle Trask has come in for him at the QB
spots of something to monitor there. Giants and Patriots a

(24:58):
whole lot of nothing in this game, scoreless with two
minutes to go in the opening quarter, and Tommy DeVito
had a fumble Steve as you mentioned, so off to
a rousing start and then the Texans are trailing the
Jaguars three to nothing or late stages of the first quarter.
Here Trevor Lawrence fifty seven yards through the air, Travis

(25:20):
et and six carries and twelve yards. Guys, as I
said it back to you, I have a feeling that
we'll have some highlights next time you come back to me.
But right now it's just a feegal kicking clinic. Although
what am I seeing right now on my screen?

Speaker 2 (25:34):
We are seeing the Falcons go into the end zone touchdown.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Jesse Bates the third.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Wow, Wow, got me. This is electric guys.

Speaker 2 (25:45):

Speaker 9 (26:07):
No.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
First of all, last night is very happy that it
ends on a positive note for Brady Hook at San
Diego State.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
You actually got to see a rare win last night.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
Yep, yep, yeah, that was That was big win for
the San Diego State Aztecs. It was on the call
their game against the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Bulldogs
finished their season with eight wins. Aztecs finished their season
with four, so sort of the mirrored image of each
other's record eight and four to four and eight.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
And really it was the kind.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Of the deal this season with this football team is
they never played fully to their potential. They always left
a couple of plays out there, and in the finale
for Brady Hoak's coaching career.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
They get the job done. So great sendoff for a.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Coach that had a great career over one hundred wins,
two times, named coach of the Year, once in the
Big Ten, once in the Mountain West Conference, champion three
times over during his coaching career, a variety of different
levels in the college ranks as a head coach, and
a nice swan song as they honored him pregame making

(27:17):
him an honorary captain.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
So yeah, good.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Why I is to spend my mornings with Brady, as
you know, every single month, and during a really good
season they had that year that was an eleven win season,
So I'm happy for him. By the way, I don't know,
did you see the end of that Alabama Auburn game.
So we're sitting here, Ibram and I are sitting here
doing the show, and we were literally saying, or I
was staying on the air, when's the last time he
saw or heard a team with a fourth and goal

(27:42):
at the thirty one yard line?

Speaker 1 (27:44):
So when is the last.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Time you're seeing a team facing fourth and goal at
the thirty one yard line? And Milroe was standing there,
there was no pass rush, looking looking looking throws it.
I mean, he throws a perfect pack into the deep
corner of.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
The end zone, touchdown.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Alabama wins the game and keeps their hopes alive of
making it into the College football Playoffs. On the college
football side FBS side, we have the ten conference championship
games next week and that's it and still up for grabs.
Which teams are going to be in the College football
playoff and who's going to walk away to that Heisman Trophy.
I mean, really, right now, for me as a voter,

(28:25):
comes down to bow Knicks against Washington simpol as that
you know, Daniel's season is done, put up huge numbers
at LSU, but this comes down to bow knicks. If
he beats Washington, he's going to walk away with the
Heisman Trophy if they lose that game and Washington somehow
discombobulates a quarterback that has thrown unbelievable seventy nine percent completion,

(28:47):
thirty seven touchdowns, two picks. That's his numbers this year
through twelve games. But then he could throw it up
for grabs. So a lot on the line with one
more week in the college football season regular season.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
You know, from the standpoint of a Heisman voter, you,
I know how you think about this narrative and winning
and team success matters just as.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Much as anything.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
So you know, in the case of a Lamar Jackson,
he was so undeniably talented back in twenty sixteen at Louilsville,
it didn't matter how many games they lost.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Well, they lost three games. RG Three's team lost three games.
And Tim Tebo the year he won the Heisman, Florida
had three regular season losses. So Daniels is not out
of it, believe me. You know, bow Knicks missfires against Washington.
Daniels is going to walk away with a Heisman trophy.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
It's highly possible. I mean, he is.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Still ridiculous numb. He's second in the SEC and rushing.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
It's like watching a video game watching him play.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
I mean, his numbers are incredible.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
That being said, I think bow Nicks is still in
the driver's seat.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Well, and let's just you know, fast forward to what
we're talking about today.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
It's a Red Zone Radio day here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
It's Pro Football Day for us here as it is
every Sunday from ten am to two pm West Coast time.
It's this is what the projection is like these are
going to be the next crop coming in.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Which team is going to be making room for one of.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
These stud quarterbacks at the college level and which of
them are going to work out? That is a crapshoot
every year because as good as these players look at
the college level, we know how difficult it is to
make this leap to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
And it still amazes me, even.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
Going through it, having a professional career and seeing the
rigors of it, how few quarterbacks actually succeed at this.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Leftl That is such a great point.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
And again those that do succeed ultimately are in the
right place at the right time, right they have a
system that fits their skill set. For a Patrick Mahomes,
he goes with you know, an offensive mastermind, and Andy Reid.
They already had a good team. It wasn't like they
were a playoff team with Alex Smith at quarterback. He

(30:59):
was able to sit for an entire year watch Alex
Smith and then take over the reins of an already
really good team with a Travis Kelsey with a Tyreek
Hill as weapons to use. I mean, I go all
the way back to Dan Marino. Dan Marino comes in
out of pitt As at bottom of the first round
pick and he joins the team. They just went to
the Super Bowl, so they had talent, and then his

(31:23):
talent was able to go to the next level.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
You know, Joe Montana with Bill Walsh.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
I mean, so many factors go into being a successful quarterback.
By the way, the Indianapolis Colts, I'm, you know, trying
to figure out I We're going to see a lot
of scoring today. It doesn't look like we are with
these games, but the Indianapolis Colts have scored on a
Jonathan Taylor run. Gardner Minshew off to a good start
six of a for fifty nine yards. Baker Mayfield's back

(31:49):
in the game. He was shaken up a little bit earlier.
Kyle Trask came in for one play, but he's back
in the game. But Colts now lead the Buccaneers by
a score of ten to three. And you know there's
another team, the Colts. Anthony Richardson showed some promise early
in his rookie season season any injury, so now we
got to wait another year to see whether or not
it's going to pan out for him. And then there's

(32:11):
the Bryce Young situation with the Panthers, who are one
to nine worst record in the NFL. They're losing right
now to the Titans seven to nothing. They have no
shot at the number one overall pick because that belongs
to the Chicago Bears. So they're going to have to
play this out with Bryce Young, who is the number
one overall pick, and week every week we watch him.

(32:33):
I mean it's not that he's void of talent. He
has some talent, but his stature is a problem. And
it just like every week we watch this guy in
action physically, he just looks smaller and smaller every single week.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
I preach patients with Bryce Young. I do too, and
I do this with all rookies.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
I think a lot of people are very quick to
make their bold proclamations about a rookie head coach or
a rookie cor quarterback. This league is hard in experience.
It shines through in a lot of different ways, and
sometimes sometimes it just takes, you know, getting used to
your environment. Like we're just talking about with Derek Carr, right,

(33:13):
Derek Carr is a veteran. He looks completely different to
me in New Orleans than he did in Las Vegas
last season. If you look at Derek Carr's number. If
you look at the Raiders numbers offensively, that was a
top ten offense. He just there's just yeah. It takes
time to get used to your new teammates. It takes
time to speak the language of the coaching staff and
for everybody to get on the same page together.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
And that's with a veteran.

Speaker 4 (33:36):
Imagine the head rush and the crazy overwhelming feeling you
feel when you walk into an NFL locker room for
the first time and you're the first overall pick that
the franchise traded up to get.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
You want to talk about pressure.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
My goodness, you know, so I preach patients with all
these rookies.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
It doesn't look great.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
But I will say this if you want, if you're
a Panthers fan and you want to calm down a
little bit, it may not help, but a little bit.
Turn on any one of his postgame press conferences. That
guy is matures.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
He is a leader.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
He sounds like someone you want leading your franchise. And
so if he can if he can start figuring it
out at this level, you could see a turnaround next season.
And also, if you want reassurance, go back and look
at Peyton Manning's rookie season.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Woolf Yeah Wolf. Speaking of Wolf.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Two games that were predicted to be offensively challenged games
Steelers at the Bengals, Patriots and the Giants, both games
living up to the hype. Into the second quarter, we
go combine those four teams have zero.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Points, right up to the hype. Living up to the hype.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
All right, well we continue to roll on in search
of touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Here's car Now watch the throw in orcept at Jesse Page.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
He's got great grass.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Fifty forty thirty twenty.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Strated up Jesse touch down Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
That's ninety two to nine in the game. Falcons Radio Network.
Falcons lead the Saints by a score of seven to six.
We actually have some touchdowns just being scored. Bengals get
in the end zone. Take a seven to three lead
over the Steelers there and the Jacksonville Jaguars, trying to
reestablish their domination of the AFC South, now have a

(35:22):
ten to nothing lead on the road against the Texans
as Trevor Lawrence gets in the end zone. So there
you go, ten nothing Jags right there. Once again, this
is Fox Sports Red Zone radio. We are live from
the TAIRAQ dot Com studios. This is such a big
matchup right for Jacksonville and the Texans. I look at

(35:42):
Jacksonville very much like a look at the Detroit Lions,
where they have coaches that have turned around the mindset
of organizations that just a couple of years ago were
at the absolute bottom of the barrel.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
But are they ready for prime time?

Speaker 3 (36:00):
You know?

Speaker 2 (36:00):
I look at both the NFC and AFC right now.
Rich On the AFC side, I see the Ravens, and
even though the Chiefs have been shut out three consecutive
games in the second halves, which is unbelievable when you
have Patrick Mahomes, I look at those two teams as
the teams to be in the AFC and the NFC side,
he got the forty nine Ers and Eagles. Then you

(36:21):
got the Cowboys and the Dolphins, two teams sitting at
eight and three combined. They have not won a single
game this year against a team that currently has a
winning record, not one win against the team Warrion.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
So to me, they're like they're the next level.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
But hang on, hang on, hang on, you missed a
very important team and I think one of our steamed
members of this show is going to be very upset.
Chris Purfett and his Detroit line, Well.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
To me, they're Jacksonville because I think that I said
at the top, the Lions and the and the Jaguars
have coaches that have taken them and turn around to
winning attitude.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Yeah, but are they ready for the postseason?

Speaker 9 (37:04):
No, I think you're onto something. There's definitely like specific
flaws that make them. They'll get into the playoffs and
be able to maybe win a playoff game, but they're
not going to be a Super Bowl content.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Lions are not yet.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
They don't have the defense level of the Eagles and
the forty nine ers.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
They may be at the level of the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
I don't know what to make of the Cowboys and
the Dolphins because they haven't beaten anybody yet.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
They just keep mopping up on bad team.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
After bad team, which is fine, you're supposed to win
those games. But and then the end of AFC side
same thing. I got the Ravens, I got the Chiefs
still because the Chiefs are the Chiefs, and I just
don't look at the Dolphins and Cowboys on that level.
And then the question marks are Jacksonville and Detroit? Are
they ready for prime time?

Speaker 3 (37:49):
You know what?

Speaker 4 (37:50):
The Dallas Cowboys has always felt like to me, you
know how sometimes and like, I mean, this is an
experience that everybody had at some points in their life
where you meet somebody who you know, they're just kind
of faking it a little bit, right. You know, they've
got expensive looking jewelry, but you're like, yeah, but is

(38:12):
it are those real diamonds? Like are those real diamonds? Like,
I mean, are we convinced that is that real gold
or real platinum? Or is that is that the fake stuff?
Like you just don't know. Right, you look at them
and you say, yeah, they drive a nice car, but
they never invite us over right with They're always coming
over to our house, so we you know, it just

(38:32):
sort of feels like they're putting on airs, right, They're
just they're showing off. They're a little ostentatious. They're a
little too showy. And is their substance is their real
wealth behind all of the flaws and and and with
the Cowboys, I've always felt that way. With Dak Prescott,
a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
Well, i mean, his postseason record speaks for itself. Again,
this is an organization. I'm thinking, you know, when Jerry
Jones finally decided to put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring
of Honor, I mean, this thing was just comical. And
then Jimmy Johnson said, well, he always told me I
would have my day. But Jerry Jones is hoping that
this is a karmas situation, like the exclusion of Jimmy Johnson,

(39:14):
who is really the great architect of those three super
Bowls that Jerry Jones won, even though technically wasn't the coach,
but he put that whole team together. He's thinking, like
him keeping Jimmy Johnson out is really pissing off the
football gods, like this is ridiculous. You would not be
in the Hall of Fame, Jerry Jones if it weren't

(39:35):
for Jimmy Johnson. So put him in your Ring of Honor,
and we will finally lift this curse that we have
placed on your organization, because not only they've not won
a Super Bowl since the ninety five season, they haven't
even been to the conference championship game since that season.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
So he is.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Hoping that somehow he has lifted this curse by finally
honoring Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Yeah, well we'll see. Look, here's the thing. I'm not superstitious.
I don't much believe that there's some overarching, you know,
principle that's guiding franchises.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
It's people. You know, people create.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
Belief, and belief is a very strong building block to
having great fortune for a franchise.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
I just don't know if every.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
Single person on that building believes they have what it
takes to win a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
And well, we're heading toward halftime right now with the
six games around the NFL in four games and the
books going in will keep you updated.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
That's Texans Radio Network, And just like that, they're back
in at trailing the Jags by a score of ten
to seven, six and a half minutes to go in
the first half in that game. This is Fox Sports
Red Zone Radio. We're broadcasting live from the tire rack
dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com. We're gonna help
get you there and on matt selection, fast free shipping,
free road as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers.

(40:57):
Tire rack dot com the way tire by and should
be so for most of these games. We're beginning to
get a little wake up call. The Colts, by the way,
have a seventeen to three lead over the Bucks. Gardner
Minshew getting into the end zone with a score on
a rushing touchdown. There, so seventeen to three Colts over

(41:17):
the Bucks. Patriots zero zero, Patriots j Patriots Giant zero zero.
Mac Jones has fifty eight yards, he has a pick.
He's actually being outplayed by Tommy DeVito. Ooh yeah, slightly,
I mean DeVito's They're trying to make a big deal

(41:39):
out of DeVito in New York and it's like, come on, please.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
Well, I will say this, the whole storyline with Tommy
DeVito is intoxicating. Like if he somehow found found a
way to have like a Joshua Dobbs impact, I mean,
this would be the biggest story in the NFL. A
guy who moved in with his parents because he grew
up in Jersey, playing for the home town team, you know,
with a last name like da Veto, playing in New York.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
He's a he's a true Tri State area kid.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
And now he's going home to Mama's cutlets after the game.
Yeah yeah, leave the take the gun, leave the Canoli.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Yes exactly.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
I mean, but but it's not padding out that way.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
By no, it's not.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
You know, again, we get back to this whole idea
that every year, every single year, after a season is
over half a dozen coaches get fired, you know, that's
the usual.

Speaker 1 (42:36):
Six or seven every single year.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
Oh yeah, and then you go into the draft and
you got all these quarterbacks just littering the top of
the board, and he's thinking, that's the guy, that's the guy.
I just I've been watching the quarterback play this year
in college football, and it's a little skewed in the
sense that so many of these quarterbacks are now in

(43:00):
their fifth or six years as a college quarterback. You know,
I go back to dtr at Ucla, who's now the
starting quarterback for the Browns. And by the way, there
are forty six quarterbacks in the NFL that have thrown
at least thirty passes this year, he being one of them.
In terms of passer rating, he's forty sixth in the
NFL in passer rating. But if you watch him, he

(43:22):
started five years, like five full years as a starting
quarterback at Ucla to get where he was, And so's
that's the question. When you look at a Bonnix or
a Michael Pennix junior, or any one of these quarterbacks
that have had these endless college careers extended by the
COVID year, whether or not they're peaking at this level

(43:44):
based on being in the same system for a number
of years, or whether that's going to translate.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
To the next level.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Caleb Williams is the outlier because I think his physical
talent the eyeball test just tells you that he's got
something a little extra.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
But I'm not so sure about the rest of these quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
I don't know Bo Nicks, who you know, left Auburn
in a huff, transfers to Oregon and suddenly on the
Cospwell Heisman Trophy. If that's going to translate to the
next level.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
But that's that's.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
Why they pay these scouts, right, this is why these
guys make a lot of money, these general managers millions
of dollars because they're geniuses and identifying talent and whether
or not it not only translates to the league, but
specifically does it translate to our team?

Speaker 1 (44:28):
Will he be a success in what we've got in mind?

Speaker 2 (44:32):
And that's going to be the test because we have
a lot of teams right now that are hurting bad
at the quarterback position and they need help desperately.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:41):
Look, I I look at football as as it's pretty simple.
It's an experienced game. Like think about how to become
a grand master at chess. Right, You're not going to
just be great at chess the first time you play chess,
because you have to learn the strategy of chess. Right
when you first start playing chess. You got to learn

(45:02):
how all.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
The pieces move.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
It's like, okay, pawn from the opening, you know that
can be two spaces, but only one after that. They
can only attack diagonally, you know, with the Knights, what
is a gallop? Gallop step to the side, like, you know,
you gotta get used to a Bishops can only go
on the diagonals. You gotta get used to it. That's
that's like the elementary school version of chess, right, just
learning how the pieces move. Well, that's you know, peewee football.

(45:25):
What do the offensive linemen do, What do the receivers do,
What do the tight ends do? What's the responsibility of
the quarterback and the running backs?

Speaker 3 (45:31):
Right?

Speaker 4 (45:32):
Defensively, linebacker play all the way back to the defensive backfield,
Like you're just learning the structure of the game, and
then you get to, you know, advanced levels of football
where you are breaking down overload blitz packages and you're
breaking down personnel packages where only one defensive lineman's on
the field. With this package where they put it in

(45:52):
there one defensive lineman, they got six linebackers on the field,
my goodness. And what they got five d backs? What
do we even call this? And who do we label
is the Mike linebacker? Like you get into some really
advanced stuff offensively too. My point is there's levels to
this and the longer you're exposed to it, whether it's
chess from a strategic standpoint or it's football, which is

(46:14):
like playing chess with real humans on a chess board,
you know, one hundred and twenty yards in length fifty
two and some part of another yard wide. Like, this
is strategy and you gotta learn it before you can
be good at You got to experience the ups and
downs before you can be great at it. And so
to your point, Man, a lot of these players just

(46:37):
haven't had enough exposure yet and they're learning on the fly.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
All right, Bill O'Brien is sitting next to mac Jones
after mac Jones just through his second interception of the game,
putting the Giants in a position where maybe we can
break this scoreless tie with less than five minutes to
go in the first half. It's funny Bill O'Brien just
sat down with mac Jones. Mac Jones is not even
looking at him.

Speaker 4 (46:56):
Well, I think he's trying to talk chess and mac
joone still he wants to play checkers.

Speaker 1 (47:01):
Yeah, well, it's it's not working.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
And I mean I don't I don't know what their
game plan is moving forward with the Patriots right now.
I mean, ultimately, this all sits on the seat of
the coach. He's got total control of everything. He's the coach,
he's the personnel director. He has total control of this
football operation, including the hiring of Bill O'Brien, which was

(47:24):
going to give him a legitimate offensive coordinator, and his quarterback,
Mac Jones, who looks so promising two years ago, is in.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
A steep decline.

Speaker 2 (47:34):
Yeah, you can just see it's nothing's working in his
head right now.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
No, no, nothing.

Speaker 4 (47:41):
I mean, if you look at this game, you know,
just from how it's gone so far, it's been fumble,
punt punt punt punt interception by Mac Jones. Punt punt
punt interception by Mac Jones. Yeah, I mean it is.
And it's the sort of interception that is going to
get him benched. It's sort of interception that's going to

(48:01):
get Bailli z Appy put in the game because it
really doesn't feel like he's learning.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
From mistakes at this point.

Speaker 4 (48:08):
And I don't look, I'm not here to blame Mac
Jones for all of Mac Jones's issues, because, like you said,
at the end of the day, Bill Belichick is responsible
for the product on the field. From a head coaching standpoint,
Billy O'Brien is responsible for the development of this quarterback.
At this point, it's not going well and so something

(48:29):
has the communication and the development of this athlete has failed.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Now is it all his fault? No, certainly it's not.

Speaker 4 (48:38):
He had a departing offensive coordinator after a promising rookie year,
and then he was led by two competing offensive coordinators
in Joe Judge and Matt Patricia all offseason long last year,
leading into Matt Patricia being his offensive coordinator for this season,
who had never called an offensive game in the course

(49:00):
of his entire career, and then he moves on to
a new voice in the headset with Billy O'Brien, who
seems fed up already with him.

Speaker 2 (49:08):
Oh yeah, I mean it's I mean we see him
yelling at him, but literally, I'm just watching after this
interception and Bill O'Brien taking a seat right next to
mac Jones and he's got his you know, iPad or
whatever he's looking at, and mac Jones is just looking
off in the distance.

Speaker 3 (49:25):
Yeah, because at a certain point, you know, you know
what it is.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
You know, you know you're having a rough day and
you can't you can't put your finger on why and
how to fix it. And you're not ready to wave
the white flag because no athlete does that, No no
athlete who gets to this level does that. But somewhere
deep inside of him, he just wants the bleeding to stop.
And if that means he takes the rest of this

(49:51):
season off, while Bally's Appy gets to start these games
and he gets to get his head straight and potentially
move on to his.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Next destination if they decide to trade him.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
Or otherwise, well, maybe that's what's best for him right now,
because this is not working. What's happening in New England
is not working right now, and mac Jones, unfortunately for
mac Jones, is responsible for a good portion of it,
and he's at the center of all of it.

Speaker 2 (50:15):
Derek Henry, who used to be a dominant running back
in the NFL, is just a guy these days.

Speaker 1 (50:21):
But he does have a couple of touchdowns today.

Speaker 2 (50:22):
And the Titans are leading to the Panthers by a
score of fourteen to three. Predictably, the Panthers showing very
little at the offensive end there.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
Meanwhile, the Giants.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
I was going to say, by the way, technically, if
you're ever wondering what was the last scoreless tie in
the NFL, it happened back in nineteen forty three, which
is even before my time. Giants, after the interception have
run a couple plays for zero yards.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
We're at the two.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
Minute warning, no score between the Giants and the Patriots.
All right, we battle lot. I feel like it's a
battle today as we try to generate a little more excitement.
But you know what, the best is yet to come.
It always works out that way. That's why you keep
it right here. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 3 (51:08):
David want to walk kut takes the snap back to throw.

Speaker 2 (51:12):
Barkley picks up the Blitzer throws it left, stiff farming
his man as Hodgins gets.

Speaker 1 (51:16):
To the goal line and he's in for the touchdown.

Speaker 2 (51:18):
Isaiah hodgits stiff arm Jonathan Jones and put them off for.

Speaker 3 (51:23):
The Giants are on the board.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Tommy DeVito says, Manja, that's w fan Giants Radio Network.
Giants take the seven nothing lead against the Patriots. And
by the way, we always talk about Bill Belichick's record
against rookie quarterbacks, Well He's never.

Speaker 1 (51:41):
Faced anyone like Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
No, he sure has never faced anyone like Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 1 (51:47):
And the Giants have that seven nothing lead once again.

Speaker 2 (51:50):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio, Steve Harbin, Rich Orenberger.

Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
Well, Tommy DeVito.

Speaker 4 (52:13):
More like if Tommy DeVito loses to Belichick.

Speaker 3 (52:16):
Wow, I mean, let's let's be honest. I mean he's
taking over the league right now.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
Yeah. Passer ratings, Like, what am I going to lose
to this?

Speaker 3 (52:25):
Belichick? Are you kidding me? Pass me more pursued.

Speaker 1 (52:29):
I'm gonna sprinkle a bit more cheese on this managod,
and now you're making me hungry.

Speaker 9 (52:34):
As an Italian American, I am like, this is yeah, okay.

Speaker 1 (52:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
By the way, passer ratings so far in this game,
DeVito is at ninety six point two, mac Jones is
at twenty seven point eight twenty. That is unbelievable. Hey,
I wanted to jump in again. We are heading toward halftimes,
uh in these games right now, by the way, that

(53:01):
Texans are at the Jacksonville thirty one yard line, but
they will now look at a long field goal attempt
with a fourth and nine. Jacks lead that game by
a score thirteen to seven. Biggest game, by the way,
going on this morning, those teams battling for supremacy in
the AFC South.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
I want to mention something.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
Adam Kaplan, our Fox Sports Radio NFL insider was asked
by Brandon Staley's number one critic and there's a lot
of critics obviously about Brandon Staley, the Chargers head coach,
and I jumped in and I said, look, this is
this is how the Charger organization works. He still has
another year left on his contract. We've been down this
path before. We were there with Mike McCoy, we're there

(53:38):
with Anthony Lynn. They had bad third seasons and they
were brought back the next year.

Speaker 1 (53:44):
Because they didn't want to eat contract.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
And Kaplan said, I know what you're saying, but it's
different after what Brandon Staley did post game after their
loss of the Packers, where he completely went off the
deep end, where he literally was telling members of the
media to not ask them any more questions about the defense.
This defense, by the way, which has the second highest

(54:08):
payroll on defense and is the second worst rated defense
in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
And then he.

Speaker 2 (54:14):
Reverted back to the old lines of we had the
right game plan, we just didn't execute. I got news
for you, it's not the right game plan if your
team can't execute that game plan. When you talk about
game plans, the idea of a great game plan offensive league,
defensive league, special teams is you need to put a

(54:36):
game plan together that your defense or offense can actually execute.
If they can't execute your game plan, then it was
not the right game plan. So you can say, well,
according to our opponent, forget your opponent. You know what
great coaches always say, I mean the best of the
best in any sport, is that they really don't prepare

(54:58):
for their opponent. What they're preparing is their team to
execute at the highest level they can and they're confident
if they don't do that, they're gonna win more games
than they lose. So what is your gut feeling? Again,
with someone that's well connected with the charge organization, that
knows Tom te LESCo, who brought you into the Chargers organization,

(55:18):
we know he's not going anywhere because he's the president
of football Operations, John Spanis's best friend. But do you
think they'll make an exception in the rule and eat
a year of contract on Brandon Staley if this season
continues to bottom out?

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Well, look, if.

Speaker 4 (55:36):
This season continues to bottom out and they don't make
a move at head coach, it means that this franchise
values money over success. That will beget them more money.
Because look, that's how business works. Sometimes you have to
reinvest into your business in order to earn more later.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
It is a tail is old as time.

Speaker 4 (56:00):
The businesses who don't innovate, the businesses who don't reinvest
and research and develop, they go stale. And sometimes that
means in the research and development process, scrapping what you
thought might have been a good idea, even if it
costs you a lot of money to scrap it. Because
if it's not working, it's not working. It's not the

(56:22):
general public's fault. If you build a cell phone they
don't want to buy, it's not the general public's fault.
If you're a restaurant owner and you make a featured
item on your menu that nobody wants to eat, it's
not The people decide and then businesses adjust.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
Well.

Speaker 4 (56:39):
In football, the results are the results. It's wins and losses.
Fan base is no fan base wants their team to lose.
I mean outside of teams where they're hoping for a
higher draft selection. But when you have Justin Herbert a quarterback,
when you have some of the talent you just mentioned
on defense, when you have some of the talent on offense,
the obvious talent that they have on offense, you gotta

(57:02):
win football games. You gotta win a lot more than
you lose, and so the glaring issue is at the top,
and if you don't take care of it, it means
that you value short term gain over long term innovation.
It means that you don't read the room. It means
that you don't care about the product or the people
who care about the product. You just care about money,

(57:25):
and that isn't going to do you any favors later
on down the line as a business owner.

Speaker 3 (57:30):
It just isn't.

Speaker 4 (57:30):
So they got to figure this out in a hurry,
and if they don't, we know exactly where they land
on that equation.

Speaker 2 (57:36):
Meanwhile, of course, the League puts the Chargers in prime
time literally every week in hopes of generating interest in
an organization that doesn't generate interest. They had no interest
in San Diego when they left, and they certainly have
no interest in La where they are right now. They
face the Ravens tonight. I don't feel good for the

(57:59):
Chargers in this game. And by the way, Brandon Staley
also said during the week, the Chargers are very much
in the playoff mix. They lose tonight, they go to
four and seven, and I'm looking at all the teams,
they would have to leap frog to get into a
playoff position. Not only would they almost have to win
out their last six games, thinking that they lose tonight

(58:21):
at home to the Ravens, but.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
They would have to have other teams come backwards.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
They have to have you know, the Bills continue to
lose or you know, the Steelers or teams like that
would have to lose.

Speaker 1 (58:30):
So it's not going to happen.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
But we know this organization when you talk about the
kind of investment that you're saying, is the right thing.
One thing about the Patriots, I'll say, over the years,
when things weren't working with personnel, they cut them loose.
They didn't care if they were a first round pick,
second round pick, high price free agent. If it didn't work,
they cut their losses and they turned the page. That's

(58:52):
why they were able to win for two decades straight.
That's not the play with the Chargers. Any success the
Chargers have had has never been dieted by design. It's
been by accident.

Speaker 4 (59:02):
Well, I really I feel like Tom Telesco, for everything
you just said, is a pretty good accumulator of talent,
pretty good assessor of talent. He's done a nice job
getting getting talented football players through the door. So I
think it's very intentional to do so.

Speaker 1 (59:20):
But he's also in charge of hiring coaches.

Speaker 4 (59:22):
Well, I don't know if he's I don't know if
he's the last say. I'm not sure how that struck.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
Mike McCoy, Anthony Lynn, and Brandon Staley.

Speaker 4 (59:30):
I will say this though, I think that I think
that at a certain point, and everybody's worked in a
business like this, at a certain point, a boss veto's
decision of an employee, even if it's the right right
move for the business, and it could be because of costs,
and look, you know, sometimes you got to make it
work with a lower cost. But imagine if to Lasco

(59:51):
when Andy Reid and Mike McCoy were up for the job,
he goes, well, look, you know, we really like Andy Reid.
And he goes, well, how expensive is Andy Reid? Well,
Andy read this much? Well how expensive is Mike McCoy.
Well Mike McCoy's this much. Well we're gonna go with
Mike McCoy, you know what I mean. Bruce arians he
was available during one of these coaching searches. I can't
remember which one. Whether it was Anthony Lynn or The

(01:00:13):
point I'm trying to make is sometimes there's better coaches
out there, but a general manager, he's shackled to the payroll,
he shackled to what the owner wants him to spend
on a head coaching candidate. So I'm not trying to
make excuses for Tom Telesco, but I'm just saying the
Charges don't get everything wrong.

Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
Well, let me ask you this one thing that they've
gotten really wrong is is their their decision making at
head coach.

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
I want to ask you this very quick question, because
this was actually out there that Belichick will lead the
Patriots to come to the Chargers because of Justin Herbert.
Can you imagine Bill Belichick this is the marriage of
two of your organizations. Can you imagine Bill Belichick working
under the Spanos umbrella.

Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
I mean, the only way it would work is they
would have to pay him a boatload of money because
he's he's not gonna work for free and he's not
gonna work for cheap.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
And also to have.

Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
Complete control, that means that means Tom Tlasco is gone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
I mean, there's no way in mind.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Why does John Spanos fit into this well?

Speaker 4 (01:01:17):
He's not gonna have any more say that's look. I mean,
there's no.

Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Way, owners my son.

Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
There's no way in my mind that Bill Belichick is
going to join a franchise that he can't completely contruy.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
I agree with you one hundred percent. So dismiss that
idea right now from those that know. Let's find out
what it's trending right now. I want to throw something
out here to be Finn Brian Fanily. We got into
a little Heisman discussion before the show.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
Rich.

Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Yeah, So four of the last five quarterbacks to win
the Heisman, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, and Caleb Williams,
we're all transfer quarterbacks. The one exception in that mixes
Bryce Young and this year Bo Nick's transfer quarterback, Jayden
Daniels transfer quarterback, Michael Pennick junior transfer quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
How do you feel about.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Those guys having I don't know, extended stays in college
to get them to.

Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Where they are now?

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
You know, and again, it's not a career award, it
is a season award. But you seem to have a
little problem with those extended collegiate careers, transfers and everything
else to be up consideration for college football's most esteemed honor.

Speaker 7 (01:02:28):
Well, you're taking advantage of a lot of these guys.
The extra COVID year. So Jade and Daniels had three
great years or so at Arizona State, then he moves
on to LSU. So these are like guys that are
almost in their mid twenties now.

Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
Panix was four years at Indiana before coming to Washington. Oh,
Nick's three years at Auburn coming to Oregon.

Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Should that dismiss them?

Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
To me?

Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Again, I maintain at least when I passed my vote,
I'm only looking at the year.

Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Yeah, it's not a career, awar season a war.

Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
Yeah, I mean, we're talking about the most outstanding football player.

Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
Of that season.

Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
Yeah, I don't, I don't look I mean. And also,
college football is changing in a hurry.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Well, I mean it seems like every one of these
quarterbacks now is a transfer quarterback.

Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
If we're uncomfortable with where this is now, just wait
if you want your discomfort to increase, this isn't gonna
get better. I mean, if you look around the Pac twelve.
The reason why the Pac twelve had such a resurgence
this year, as it is the final season of the
Pac Twelve, before all these teams go elsewhere at Big twelve,

(01:03:39):
Big ten, and otherwise.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
You look at you look at the reason why.

Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
It's because just about every team started a transfer quarterback,
either this year or last year, and the success has
come on the heels of those decisions to bring in
transfer things.

Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
Think about this, Before Baker Mayfield won the Heisman, no
Heisman Trophy winner d ever transfer two JC guys, Oj
Simpson and Mike Rozierra Nebraska who played JC football and
then came to their school. But every Heisman winner through
Lamar Jackson only played at one school. And now every
year we get transfer players winning the Heisman Trophy.

Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
We'll have another one this year.

Speaker 7 (01:04:19):
The thing is, guys, is that from an individual standpoint, yes,
the transfer and the Heisman are becoming hand in hand,
but you still need to develop the eighteen and the
nineteen year olds to have success as a team. So individually,
sure we can fond over numbers and what guys are doing, But.

Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
Wait a second, is that true?

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
I mean they, I mean you're bringing in these transfer
quarterbacks and all of a sudden boom, you're a winner.

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
To an extent.

Speaker 7 (01:04:46):
I guess when I look at it from a UCLA standpoint,
it doesn't add up because and then look at USC.
There are teams that have one great guy at the
QB position. Sure you've got the bow Knicks and the
Michael Pennix, but then you also have the Caleb Williams
where he's great, and they have all these transfers and
none of them are working out.

Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
No, I agree with that, but I mean, you can't
argue that USC Caleb was a transfer. Also, Brian USC
doesn't have near the season they do this year if
it weren't for his town.

Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
So I'm not looking like you said success.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
They should have lost at the last six in a row. No,
the only game they won at the end was a
one point win against col when Cow went for two.

Speaker 4 (01:05:25):
What success they had, though was completely contingent on the incredible,
superlative play of their quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
Though we're all a great.

Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
But I think the point, and I.

Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
Bright is the fact that these tran when you're bringing
thirty guys in. That was the first year of Lincoln Riley.
They brought an over thirty transfers from different schools, and
I remember I remember Lank Kiffin and Mississippi had also
had the influx, and they were saying, are you excited
about all these transfers coming? He goes, I don't know. Yeah,

(01:05:57):
they're all coming from different systems. I don't know if
they fit right. Well, hope we may fit. And just
like any recruit, some do, some don't. And you look
at some of the resumes of guys that came to USC,
Caleb Williams aside that were expected to have major impacts,
most of them didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
That's how you finished seven and five.

Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
But hang on, hang on.

Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
I'm not saying you're I'm not saying you're completely wrong,
but but I am going to argue the point of
professional football where when there's a regime change, where there's
a new head coach in town and they clear the
roster like Pete Carroll did with the Seattle Seahawks before
going on a run of appearing in multiple Super Bowls,
or Dan Campbell in Detroit, or any head.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Coach really, any general manager new hires.

Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
I mean what San Francisco has done with John Lynch
and Kyle Shanahan. I mean just cleaning up that roster,
building it up the way they want to. It works
at the professional level, and it's working at the college
level too. Now I understand sometimes it doesn't, but there
are examples where it does. Jetfish in Arizona with the
Wats the resurgence of that football program, they were a

(01:07:03):
one win team his first season with seventy new football players.
Five wins last year, nine wins this year. I mean
he's built something special on the backs of the transfer
portal players that he brought in when he first took
over the program, you know. I mean, same thing with
Colorado and beyond Sanders. I mean you could argue USC

(01:07:24):
created a Heisman winner by bringing in a smattering of
transfers from around the portal to come in and play.

Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
It works.

Speaker 4 (01:07:32):
I'm not saying it works all the time, but it
does work, and there's proof to that.

Speaker 7 (01:07:37):
Some I think you're taking a bigger gamble, guys, as
far as you know, when you go into the transfer portal,
it's kind of like you see the big powerball and
lottery and you want the big thing. Or you could say,
all right, let's develop some guys here. Let's not take
chances on what we might get from somebody coming in,
and that's like the scratch off. I might get five

(01:07:57):
or ten bucks. I know I'm going to get probably
something or there's a likelihood that this is going to
work out at a higher rate of success. But the
amount of success that could happen if you hit it
big with that transfer is very much in allure for
these players.

Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Well, I mean, it's no different than the draft. We
were talking about this. If you're if you're gunning to
tank a season to get a high pick in the draft,
thinking that the guy you're gonna get is going to
be the game changer.

Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
Guess what the batting average is not great?

Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
Yeah, it's like it's like forty thirty five to.

Speaker 4 (01:08:32):
Forty percent, maybe one out of three become franchise guys.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Right, first round picks.

Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Yeah, first round picks.

Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
And then I mean look, I mean anywhere else in
the're up, but forty thirty five to forty five or
excuse me, thirty five to forty percent of them pan out.

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
I mean, think about the forty nine ers. They whiff
on Trey Lance and they luck out with brock Party.

Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Oh dude, Yeah, And I mean in brock Party was
not he was just roster fodder. He was just a
warm body to warm up your defense during the week
and they got very lucky. Now, sure they could say
they liked them all they want, they didn't like them
all that much because they took them with the final
pick of the final round of the NFL Draft.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
So the point, look, it's the same thing with this
transfer portal.

Speaker 4 (01:09:13):
The transfer portal and the war, I should say, college
football in the NFL have so many similarities. And Brian,
you bring up a great debate and it's actually one
that we first started having at the NFL level really
when we saw the way the Los Angeles Rams won.

Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
Their Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:09:30):
They did it very differently than a lot of other
teams it had been done before, with a lot of trades.
You know, they trade away a lot of draft capital
to bring in you know, Jalen Ramsey and Matthew Stafford
and Von Miller and Odell Beckham, like, they made a
lot of moves to build out a roster based on
I mean, if we're going to use the word from college.

Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
Transfers, you know, trades. Yeah, and it worked for them.

Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
So we're seeing that at the college level now there's
a lot of ways to peel this orange. You know,
you don't just have to bring in players from high
school developed them and then make your team special that way.
You could also go and you know, kind of pick
from other people's rosters and make your your your your
roster special that.

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
Way with no guarantee of success. Well and no, by
the way, guarantee no success.

Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
How many of those five star recruits out of high
school end up making it to the NFL, which means
that they have good college.

Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
For Barry again the same odds.

Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
Well, it's about fifty percent.

Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
So you're talking about all right, by the way, we failure,
ch Rich, we actually have run out of the show
and I started this, so let's find out what's brand.

Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
I know we have six games at halftime right now, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
we do.

Speaker 7 (01:10:39):
And we do know that the Falcons are at fourteen
to nine against the Saints. Sterrek Carr has a pick
b John Robinson has a touchdown on the ground. Halftime
in Cincinnati seven to three, Bengals leading the Steelers getting
big at one hundred and forty nine yards passing through
the air, two touchdown runs for Derrick Henry will Levis's
quarterback one hundred and twenty eight yards passing, and the

(01:10:59):
Titans fourteen the Panthers three. As they're getting close to
halftime there, Sam Canby said in Indianapolis, where the Colts
have touchdowns from Garner Minshew and Jonathan Taylor by way
of the ground, seventeen to ten. They're in front of
the Buccaneers. Giants got that Tommy DeVito scored to Isaiah
Hodgens from twelve yards out late in the second quarter,

(01:11:20):
and that's all they've needed against a hapless Patriots team
where Mac Jones has thrown two interceptions, so that doesn't
seem to be going all too well for him. And
then lastly, guys, the Jaguars thirteen to seven, they are
leading the Texans. I'll leave you with this, and that's
at the half, so I'll leave you with this. I
just sent it back to you, guys, when we talk

(01:11:41):
about the transfer portal, I would love to know the
amount of teams that are inappropriately reaching out to athletes
that are still on rosters of other schools and trying
to lure them over. I don't think that's a story
that is getting enough credit.

Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
You know why, exposure.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
The NCAA has divorced itself completely college football.

Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
They have zero jurisdiction. It's the wild wild West.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
We don't know you right now, we have no idea
if there's money up front. These nil deals is so vague,
it's such a gray area. I mean, I've heard all
kinds of reports of exactly what Caleb Williams got to
transfer from Oklahoma to US.

Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
I've talked to a lot of different coaches, Brian, to
your point, over the course of this and last football season,
when the transfer portal really started getting hot and name
image and likeness money really started going up and up
and up, and to a man, I mean, everybody's confused
about these rules, and there is an awareness that there
are some guardrails and some restrictions put in place, but

(01:12:44):
overall it is truly the wild West, and those teams
that have the deepest pockets, you know, with their whatever
you want to call it, their collectives or their funds
for the program, They're going to be the ones who
really reaped the biggest benefits right now because there are
so few regulations placed on everything.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Yeah and uh big where if you're a player, I mean,
if you have a good situation, somebody comes up with
a bulltload of money to leave, again, you could be
leaving a system that works perfectly for you to assist him,
that will not work for you and ultimately hurts your
draft spot stuck.

Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
It's possible, but but you know what.

Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
It's already happened.

Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
There's there's examples of real life changing money being given
to some of these guys.

Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
Though, well, I understand, like the Sam Hartman's of the world.
I mean, you'red what the wake Forest coach said, right,
I was like that Notre Dame played wake Forest. He
was there for five years, and Notre Dame had this
huge like you're our guy to Sam Hartman and he
and then the wake Forest coach is like, your guy,
he was here for five years. I don't blame Sam

(01:13:54):
for taking the kind of money you threw at him
to go to Notre Dame for a year. I applaud
the kid. He's not your guy, Yeah, he was our guy.
And then he had the luxury of coming back an
extra year because of the COVID year, cash in big time,
get a huge paycheck to be the Notre Dame quarterback
for one year.

Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
I will say this about that kind of money versus
the kind of money that I'm more thinking of. There's
a lot of people immediately go to the millions that
some of these players aren't making with these endorsements and
you know the deals that they're getting from collectives from
jumping schools. But there's also the guys who are, like,
you know, the defensive tackle or the offensive lineman you're

(01:14:37):
not going to hear much about, or the cornerback who
grew up from humble means, was getting his education paid
for and instead of leaving college with crippling student loan
debt like a lot of people do, they get their
school paid for, so they leave with a degree if
they're smart about it, and they go to their classes.
And also maybe they have a couple hundred thousand dollars
in the bank, so instead of leaving school with debt.

Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
They're able to buy their first house.

Speaker 4 (01:15:01):
Like I mean, we're not talking about millions, we're talking
about hundreds of thousands of dollars. But that's that's still
life changing money.

Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
The fact that we have a complete turnover in the
landscape of college football as we head into the twenty
twenty four season is about one thing.

Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
M O. N. E. Y.

Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
I would continue on head this second half of six
games around the NFL previews some of the games later
on today.

Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Keep it here. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Steve Harbin ch Harberger, Fox Sports a Red Zone Radio.
We are live from the tire Raq dot Com studios.
All right, second half's underway around the NFL. I want
to one quick follow up to what we are talking
about conversation. By the way, I know Deon Sanders. So
by the way, Colorado lost their last game. They ended
up four and eight after their three and oh start

(01:15:49):
one in eight in the Pac twelve finished the loan
dead last in the conference. But Dion a couple of
days ago said this talking about nil quote, we're not
an at That's not gonna happen here. If you want
to come to Colorado and play football for me and
the Colorado Buffalo's, it's because you really want to play
football and receive a wonderful education, and all the business

(01:16:11):
stuff will be handled on the back end if that's
the case. But we're not an ATM. That sounds like
a recipe for disaster. That comment. If you're Deon Sanders.

Speaker 4 (01:16:22):
Yeah, I think that's probably the last thing you want
to say right now publicly about your football program. I look,
he doesn't misstep a lot with the media, though, So
I mean, when you speak to the media as often
as Deon Sanders does.

Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
Eventually, you're going to put your foot in your mouth.

Speaker 4 (01:16:42):
How much does this hurt his program and their ability
to recruit or win in the transfer portal?

Speaker 3 (01:16:49):
That remains to be seen.

Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
But remember this is also the coaches said he was
keeping receipts. Remember after his three in rows start, I'm
keeping receipts. I'm going to remember who doubted whether or
not I could turn Colorado to winner. And then he
loses eight of his last nine, including the last six
in a row.

Speaker 4 (01:17:04):
You do look at it from this standpoint, though, you know,
you do look at Deon Sanders.

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
As much as there was so much hype.

Speaker 4 (01:17:14):
Around this program this season, he didn't do much different
than Carl Durell during his final seasons at.

Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Colorado, right, I mean, I.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
Mean it still comes down to wins and losses.

Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
Pandemic year, four win team, the next season in twenty one,
four win team, and then Darrell's final season was a
one and eleven team last year.

Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
And then they're back to a four to win team.

Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
Mike Sanford took over part of the way. Yeah, they're
back to a four win team. So is it better
than it was a year ago. Yeah, but it's kind
of back to where it was when the program was
going down the tubes anyways. So it's an improvement, there's
no question about it. It's an improvement. But what Deon
Sanders did right there is just said the quiet part
out loud, which is, I don't know if Colorado has

(01:17:57):
the type of boosters and donors and elf funneling into
that program that for example, a Texas A and M
or a Texas Tech or Texas or Alabama or a
LSU or a Florida State or a Florida Like I mean,
you're competing with the big boys now on this stage,
especially considering the media hype, and so I think what

(01:18:20):
he's saying is true.

Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
I just think it's it's probably.

Speaker 4 (01:18:23):
Part of the the part of the math that you
probably got to instead of showing your work, just do
the mental math there.

Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
I think at some point Coach Prime was beginning to
believe his own hype and the reality was again, this
was a team that had what was how many transfers
that they have come in forty I mean it was.

Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Like their entire roster, Oh, it was a ton was a.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
Transfer situation and again putting all those pieces together.

Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
This is the challenge for these college coaches.

Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
It's one thing when you bring in a freshman class
you red shirt. I mean, think back to your five
years at Penn State, right, there was a process from
you sort of establishing what position you were going to
play in college to the point where you become an
All American by your fifth year. Yeah, but you had
teammates that were developed along the same plane. Those are

(01:19:18):
that's gone. Everything now is year two year. So in
the transfer portal, worse both ways. Who are you gonna keep?
Who are you gonna let go? And for for you
to do that at the collegiate level and get a
cohesive unit, wow, tough that That is a big challenge
for these coaches. But every year somebody gets it done.

(01:19:41):
It just didn't happen the way that coach Prime was hoping.
All Right, we get to second half of six games
around the FFL. We also had some interesting matchups coming
up later on this afternoon, including one team where their
coach maybe a late charging Coach of the Year candidate.
Keep it here, This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
Third and goal at the one on I formation. Singletary
and Beck CJ back to pass, runs to the right side.

Speaker 10 (01:20:06):
Stroud runs across high stepping touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
C J Stroud, CJ Strong. That's Texans Radio Network. And
with that CJ. Stroud rushing touchdown, the Texans have taken
a fourteen to thirteen lead over the Jaguars eight minutes
to go in the third quarter of that game.

Speaker 1 (01:20:26):
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
We're broadcasting live from the tyrack dot com studios.

Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
Tyrack dot com.

Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
We're gonna help get you there and on Matt's selection,
fast free shipping, free road ads of protection, over ten
thousand recommended instellers, tyrat dot com, the way tire buying
should be. After scoring that touchdown, Rich So this was
the end zone celebration. So Stroud had all his offensive
lineman I sent lining up in front of him.

Speaker 1 (01:20:53):
He sort of went down the.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Line and then he slapped at one of them and
the guy goes down. Now I'm trying to figure out
some of these celebrations, you know. It's sort of like
the personalized license plates where you're stuck behind someone and
you're trying to figure out what it says, you know,
and it's like I don't get it, Like It's like
a puzzle, like I'm trying to figure out what this

(01:21:16):
personalized license. I'm the same way now with some of
the end Zone celebrations. So this one, he sort of
walked up and down the line. There were six or
seven guy teammates standing in front of him, and then
he swung like a slap at one of the big
guys and he falls to the ground.

Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
So I'm thinking, Okay, what is that one?

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Like that?

Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
I don't try to figure this one.

Speaker 3 (01:21:39):
Out, but I absolutely love it. I absolutely love it.
You know what? You know what? Actually? No, isn't that?
Where is that from? Is that from a music video
or a movie? I've seen that before.

Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
I am trying to figure it out. Does anybody be fan?
Do you have any idea?

Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
Can we open up?

Speaker 3 (01:21:57):
Ryan?

Speaker 7 (01:21:57):
I don't, I don't, but you know, they continue to
get more creative and shout out to the NFL for
letting these guys have some fun.

Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Yeah, Like, I don't know.

Speaker 9 (01:22:05):
Maybe I'm thinking Full Metal Jacket is some sort of
like line up inspection.

Speaker 1 (01:22:10):
Okay, but how is that a celebration?

Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
No, it's not from Full Metal Jacket, But I agree
with you. It's almost like they're lining up almost like
they're in military ranks, and then he.

Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
He just swings at one of them and the guy
goes down.

Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
Yeah yeah, where is that from?

Speaker 4 (01:22:27):
I feel like it's either a music video or a
movie I've seen before.

Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
Okay, well, i'd ask people on our social media.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
Oh, I remember where it's from. It's from Baby Boy,
It's from Uh remember that movie with Tyree I did,
and they line up everybody and they just start knocking
dudes out in the park.

Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
You remember that scene. Yeah, that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
By the way, you can follow us on x slash
Twitter at Ornberger, at Cannon Hartman. By the way, I
was checking our accounts here and they're just flooded with
Tommy Debido fans.

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
Oh dude, yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
They're questioning whether or not you're to Vito. Are actually
praising him?

Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
Oh no, no, no, one hundred percent praising Tommy DeVito. Yeah, because, like,
let's be very honest, when Tommy DeVito gets his hands
on that football, little big skin, I mean, he's used
to big stick. Think about all the calibrazy saloon me
that he's devouring when he goes home.

Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
I'll tell you one thing, though, He's no Bailey Zappi,
So they finally bench mac Jones again. They bring Zappi
into the game six or six thirty eight yards and
the Patriots have tied up their game on a Ormandre
Stevenson touchdown run seven to seven Patriots and Giants. I
said at the top of the show, the winner of
this game walks away a loser. Yeah, if you're the

(01:23:43):
Patriots or Giants, you don't want to win games. The
season's over, You're not going to be in the playoffs,
so you're trying to get yourself in the best position
in the draft. So the winner today literally walks off
a loser.

Speaker 1 (01:23:57):
Oh what are you talking about, Steve Haban over you're.

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
Talking about the winners a loser. You know what, I
got a good mind to knock you one. I'll tell
you what later on when I'm.

Speaker 4 (01:24:05):
Going out with my gum in Discrimination, when I'm going out.

Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
With my gu ma and I'm getting a little Pascha fajoule. Okay,
I'm gonna be thinking about you, Steve Haman. I'm gonna
be thinking about you. You're You're a mocked man right now.

Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
You know the problem is you played five years for
Joe Paterno.

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Oh my gosh. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
Well, and by the way, Rose Riggerio was my grandmother.
I grew up eating Grandma Rose's egg plant parmesan. And
I'm telling you right now, I'll lie to my mother.
I tell her she makes as good egg plant parmesan. Nobody,
nobody made egg egg plant parmesan like Rose.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
Grandma Rose. She had to figure it out, and I
would grow I grew.

Speaker 4 (01:24:42):
Up in this house, you know. I mean I went
to her house every day after school. That's the reason
why I was an offensive wine. And she would just
feed me as mon Jamon jamaja. She would hit me
with the wooden spoon while she was cutting my sauce.
I mean, honestly, I had. I had the Tommy DeVito upbringing, so.

Speaker 3 (01:24:56):
I like this.

Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
I was reading the bio Paterno on Wikipedia. It says
here he is the son of Florence dela sal Caffieriro,
a homemaker, and Angelo Lafia Paterno, a law clerk. His
family was of Italian ancestry. I don't think he had
to add that line. Yeah, you know, Florence de la
sal Caffiero Angela Lafia Paterno.

Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
You didn't need to add that line. I think it
was self explanatory.

Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
No, we know you know what. Actually, it's a funny story.

Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
When Joe Paterno came to my high school, he sat
down with my grandparents. He only spoke to them, and
at the end of the conversation, because my grandpa grew
up in Brooklyn, also yeah, he just goes, so, hey, John,
is this guy a knucklehead of what?

Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
So?

Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
So I hope he answered to the affirmative, because that's
what he thought of you.

Speaker 4 (01:25:43):
My grandpa goes, oh, yes, yes, very much. So he's
a knuckle ahead, but he's a hard wooker. And so
he goes, all right, you know what, You're all right, John,
Hopefully your grandson's the same.

Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
And he got up and he walked out. I don't
think he said two words to me. He just shook
my head and growled at me.

Speaker 1 (01:25:59):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
By the way.

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
In the meantime, the Jaguars are right back after at it.
After the Texans took the lead fourteen to thirteen. Jags
now have a third and goal at the five yard line.
It's Trevor Lawrence trying to lead this team back. There's
a lot at stake in this game. Jaguars came in
at seven and three, leading the division. Texans right behind
him at six and four. By the way, Jags are

(01:26:23):
undefeated on the road this year, so they're four and
oh at home, three and three at home, but four.

Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
And oh on the road.

Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
So a third and goal right now, Now, wait a second,
I believe they got a penalty. They did, so we
got a first in goal now for the Jags at
the one yard line, and they're going to run the
ball and that's not going to work this Texans team.
You know, I wanted to bring up. I teased it
in the end of the last hour talking about Coach
of the Year, and obviously Demiico Ryans is a runaway favorite.

(01:26:55):
But later on the Broncos are taking on the Browns.

Speaker 3 (01:26:58):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (01:26:59):
And the Broncos were zero to.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Three to one in five and now they've rattle off
four straight wins. Sean Payton is the real deal. I
mean to hold this team together because they weren't just
one in five. Like I mean again, you give up
seventy points in a game, it's time to sort of mail.

Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
In the season. But not this Broncos team.

Speaker 2 (01:27:23):
And what's been amazing about this Broncos turnaround it's been their.

Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
Defense, yep.

Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
I mean they have completely flipped from not just the
worst defense in the league, when one of the worst
defenses ever in the history of the NFL early on
in the season to the point where you know, Russell
Wilson is just doing enough. He's only thrown four picks,
so he's you know, he's taking care of the football.
Nineteen touchdowns, four picks for Russell Wilson. Completely different quarterback

(01:27:51):
from what we saw a year ago. And to turn
around a defense in season, yeah, as dramatically as the
Broncos had. Man, you got to get some consideration to
Sean Payton for Coach of the.

Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
Year well, and also Assistant of the Year might go
to Vance Joseph.

Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Absolutely all the abuse he took his decordinator.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
I mean, so he starts this season obviously. That seventy
point game against the Dolphins was at seventy twenty loss.

Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
And that was at three, and then they gave up
twenty one points in one quarter against the Bears.

Speaker 4 (01:28:25):
I loved what he said after that game though, m hm.
He said, and I looked up the quote so I
could get it right because I remember playing it. He said,
when those things happen. It's me first. I'll fix it quickly.
We have to. And then he went on to say,
when your unit plays that way, my first thought is
it's me. I need to do a better job coaching.

(01:28:46):
I need to get the guys ready for the challenge.
So when you have accountability at the top, when there
is no sugarcoating it, when you are looking at the
output and you're saying, I'm the boss, they give me
a whistle, they give me advisor. I get to go
out with my call sheet and I'm responsible for the product.

Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
And it's and it's bad.

Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
I mean, I mean, there's objectively awful against the Dolphins. Well,
you gotta take personal accountability. And there was no fair dodging.
He went in front of the media and he said
it's all on me, and I'm gonna fix it quickly.

Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
And guess what he did.

Speaker 4 (01:29:24):
The Denver Broncos and Russell Wilson, this whole organization, defensive coordinator, advance,
Joseph everybody. This is an example of don't judge me early,
judge me late. Let the process take over, let the
culture build, let the leadership take its effect and take
hold it. It takes a lot like we described it earlier.

(01:29:47):
I was talking about how it's a chess game out there.
You have to build strategy upon strategy. It doesn't happen overnight,
even for veterans. We talked about Derek Carr having some
early struggles learning the new people in the new system
in New Orleans. A lot of new there's things, man,
So you gotta get used to it. Even if you're
a veteran head coach, even if you're a veteran defensive coordinator,
even if you're a veteran quarterback. You have to get

(01:30:09):
used to the new surroundings, the new way to do it.
And I'll tell you what. The Denver Broncos there, they're
on path to be a problem if they get to
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
Nobody's gonna want to play that.

Speaker 1 (01:30:19):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Calvin Ridley on the receiving end of a one yard
touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence and on the receiving end
of a two point conversion from Trevor Lawrence. Jaguars have
taken a twenty one to fourteen lead on the road
against the Texans four and a half minutes ago in
the third quarter of that game. All Right, we continue
on racing toward the ends of these third quarters, which
one of these games or maybe multiple games come down

(01:30:44):
to an exciting finish.

Speaker 1 (01:30:45):
It happens every week.

Speaker 3 (01:30:46):
I'll tell you what. We got a type ball game
in New Yorker.

Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
It could be a shootout between DeVito and Zappi. We're
looking forward to that. Keep it here for the answer.
This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio. Shotgun for Trevor

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
The running back.

Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
Trevor drops, looks, looks fires, back of.

Speaker 3 (01:31:04):
The hand, the pot for the touchdown.

Speaker 7 (01:31:07):
Touchdown in the back of the end zone to Calvin
Ridley and Jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
Let's take it away.

Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
How good is that? That's good.

Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
It's also WJXLAM ten ten and FM ninety two point.

Speaker 1 (01:31:20):

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):

(01:31:53):
off the air. So it comes a guessing game at
this point, Rich of which of these games are going
to come down to the wire. No, normally at this
time we have two or three games that we can
scratch off because they've been blowouts. The only game that
is not a one score game right now, and it's
not that you know, Colts are leading the Buccaneers by ten.

(01:32:13):
Everything else is a one score game right now now. Granted,
offenses have been a no show today. I mean, I'm
watching the Steelers right because they fire their offensive coordinator
and they actually came into this game on the road
against the Bengals. Is a slight favorite because Jake Browning
is the quarterback for the Bengals. But I'll tell you this,

(01:32:34):
even though the Steelers have only scored ten points, Kenny
Pigott is twenty to thirty for two hundred and sixty
yards and no interceptions, and they have one hundred and
twenty yards on the ground, so they're moving the ball today.
They're just not finishing drives. So the Steelers right now
lead the Bengals ten to seven, and they're in a
position to score again. But at least from a yard standpoint,

(01:32:58):
they look improved this week.

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:33:01):
You know what's interesting about the Steelers is after the
firing of Matt Canada, it sort of feels like Mike
Tomlin now has free reign to truly delegate the responsibility,
almost to like a group think platform. Eddie Faulkner will
take over as offensive coordinator for the Steelers, but quarterbacks

(01:33:23):
coach Mike Sullivan will actually be the one in charge
of calling the place, and the entire offensive coaching staff
is expected to put together the game plan together, you know,
So it's not gonna be anyone person who has, you know,
final say. It's almost like a democracy or a democratic
process to bring the game plan to the table each week.

Speaker 3 (01:33:43):
And that plan.

Speaker 4 (01:33:45):
From source reporting from Ian Rappaport and others is going
to try to target George Pickens more and to give
the ball to running back Jaylen Warren Moore, because both
of them were arguably either under u utilized or because
of their talent, not givin enough touches during.

Speaker 3 (01:34:04):
The course of these games when Matt Canada was calling
the shots.

Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
All right, the Steelers third down pass they added at
the sixteen yardlight of the Bengals incomplete at the goal line,
so the Steelers are going to have to settle for
a field goal attempt. Leading the Bengals by a score
of ten to seven.

Speaker 1 (01:34:21):
One game.

Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
We haven't talked a lot about and really there's no
reason Titans home against the Panthers. Mike Vrabel we all
acknowledge is a really good coach, very much, but the
Titans are not a good team. In fact, they've lost
all six row games this year. They should get a
win today against the one to nine Panthers, but they're
still just three and seven on the season and looks

(01:34:42):
like they are exiting the playoffs. Will Levis is the
big question mark. Have they turned the page? Do they
have a franchise quarterback? And Will Levis who has, let's
face it, had the usual ups and downs of a
rookie quarterback after that incredible debut where he for four
touchdown passes. A lot, I mean depends on Derrick Henry

(01:35:04):
and it's obvious that the Derrick Henry of two or
three years ago has gone forever. You know, he'll be
thirty years old next year, so I don't know how
much Tred has left on the tire.

Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
Not a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Today twelve carries forty five yards a couple scores on
the ground. But do you stay with Rabel during what
appears to be a rebuilding situation over the next couple
of years.

Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
Well, okay, the locker room loves Mike Rabel.

Speaker 4 (01:35:31):
Yes, the culture that he's established there in Tennessee is
an effective culture. But only if you have an absolute
stud at running back or by committee studs out of
the backfield who can carry the offense. Because Ryan Tannehill
was never a top fifteen quarterback, and that's really what

(01:35:52):
you need these days to compete in the NFL. Like,
if you're going to be a consistent playoff contender, you
need a top fifteen quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:35:59):
Act, Can I stubby for a second?

Speaker 5 (01:36:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
You go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
Are there top fifteen quarterbacks in the league right now?

Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (01:36:06):
Top five? Top ten? You go fifteen? I'm running out
of names after.

Speaker 4 (01:36:12):
Well, I'm glad you mentioned that, because it definitely feels
like it's once you get outside the top ten, it
gets to slim pickings. But if you can't even crack
the top fifteen, then you really have a problem.

Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
I mean, like, I guess Derek Carr is like a
top fifteen. Yeah, you know there's guys, right, Kenny Pickett
a top fifteen.

Speaker 3 (01:36:32):
Kenny Pickett would not.

Speaker 1 (01:36:33):
Be okay, So Kenny pick is not a top fifteen.

Speaker 3 (01:36:35):
Oh you look at it, Okay. So it's pretty easy
to get to the top of list, right.

Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
You know, you have Patrick Mahomes, justin Herbert, you have
you have Josh Allen, who I still consider a top
fifteen quarterback even though a lot of people are coming
after him.

Speaker 3 (01:36:47):
Dak Prescott, Trevor Lawrence. You know, it's pretty easy to
get to ten.

Speaker 4 (01:36:51):
But then when you get outside of ten, you start
getting into the names like well, Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
Well, I mean, you know, leads the league in passing yard.
Go ahead, Sam Hel Yeah, Sam Hal leads the NFL
in passing yards this year.

Speaker 4 (01:37:08):
There's this whole bunch basically from eleven through twenty who
could vie for one of those top fifteen quarterback standings.
And if you have one of those guys who consistently
hang around twelve or thirteenth best in the league. Like
at Kirk Cousins, you can stamp your ticket to the
playoffs a lot. Now, it doesn't mean you're gonna make
deep runs.

Speaker 3 (01:37:28):
You know. You can have an Alex Smith, you can.

Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
Have a Jimmy Garoppolo, you can have a Dak Prescott
who can get you to the promised Land. They're just
not gonna win you a Super Bowl, right And so
there's a lot of quarterbacks like that out there, and
you know, and look, it takes a special quarterback and
a special coaching staff to have consistent success like the
Kansas City Chiefs or when Brady and Belichick were together.

Speaker 3 (01:37:50):
You know how that went. You know.

Speaker 4 (01:37:52):
So that's that's usually the rubric or the formula for success.

Speaker 3 (01:37:56):
In Tennessee, they did it the old school way. Man.

Speaker 4 (01:38:00):
They had a hammer back like Derrick Henry, and they
had a good enough quarterback to keep the wheels on
and who wasn't going to hurt you in Ryan Tannehill.

Speaker 3 (01:38:08):
And they had a lot of success that way.

Speaker 4 (01:38:09):
The only way to replicate success is if they find
another again, either by committee or stud running back to
fill in the void that Derek Henry is leaving.

Speaker 3 (01:38:19):
As his play starting to wane.

Speaker 4 (01:38:21):
And if they can't, it's gonna be hard slutting because
they're gonna have to completely change the way they run
that offensive system.

Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
All right, So we mentioned that we had one game
that was not a one score game. It's officially a
one score game. The Buccaneers have scored on a twenty
three hour touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield to Mike Evans,
and the colesal still lead the Bucks by score of
twenty to seventeen.

Speaker 1 (01:38:43):
So in this year where so many.

Speaker 2 (01:38:45):
Quarterbacks have dropped, yep, I guess Baker Mayfield's been elevated
into a top fifteen quarterback, No.

Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
Question about it. Baker Mayfield. He just makes the cut right, yeah,
you know.

Speaker 1 (01:38:56):
Right on the cut line. But with guy's dropping like flies.

Speaker 3 (01:38:58):
Yeah yeah, I mean. And he's had a good year.

Speaker 4 (01:39:00):
He's thrown fifteen touchdown passes, six interceptions. He's kept a
real clean out there for the Buccaneers. Again, a guy
who's not gonna harm you, a guy who's not going
to make the big stupid play that loses you the
football game. Just a consistent performer. And that's what Baker
has become in this league, is like think Ryan Fitzpatrick, right,

(01:39:20):
smart guy, veteran guy.

Speaker 3 (01:39:22):
You can trust him.

Speaker 4 (01:39:23):
He's going to fill in the gaps for you while
you get your franchise quarterbacks straight in the draft, or
if you trade for a player.

Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
I mean, and who knows, is it possible.

Speaker 4 (01:39:33):
There could be a second act to his career, like
a Gino Smith in Seattle last year.

Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Possibly, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:39:39):
All right, we have a touchdown for the Falcons. Desmond
Ritter too. Bijon Robinson. By the way, a lot of
fantasy football fans have been very frustrated by Robinson's lack
of production in recent weeks. Not the case today. Fourteen
carries seventy eight yards, that's five point six yards per
carry and a touchdown there. He's also caught three passes

(01:40:01):
or thirty two yards and a second touchdown. So the
Falcons now lead the Saints by a score of twenty
one to twelve. I give you know, with the you know,
the Buccaneers back back, somebody's got to win that division,
right yeah, I mean, at some point somebody is going
to walk away with an NFC South Crown. So the
standings coming into the day, Saints are five and five,

(01:40:22):
Falcons four and six, Bucks four and six, and of
course the Panthers at one and nine.

Speaker 3 (01:40:27):
Check this out.

Speaker 4 (01:40:28):
If the Buccaneers beat the Colts and the Falcons beat
the Saints, you have three teams.

Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
At five and six.

Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Yeah, So there's a stench on that division South.

Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
It feels like one of those uh yeah, it's like
the Spider Man meme. Right, They're all pointing at each
other like, wait, we're all the same. We kind of
have underwhelming offenses and strong defenses.

Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
Who's gonna emerge?

Speaker 4 (01:40:52):
It's I mean, I look, I I'm I'm I don't
know if I have a dog in this fight. But
if there's a storyline I am rooting for. I can't
help myself. There's something about him.

Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
I really like. It's Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
Yeah, and with't be an unbelievable story right if Baker
Mayfield finds his way back into the postseason. But they
still got to take care of business today, still trailing
the Colts by a score of twenty to seventeen. Let's
find out what is trending right now and for man
that was up into the wee hours of the night
last night and up early to tackle this difficult task

(01:41:25):
at the very least you've been spared, just like you know,
thirty five twenty eight games, we have to sift through
all the touchdowns to figure out which highlights.

Speaker 1 (01:41:34):
It's been fairly quiet.

Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
Yeah, that would be awful.

Speaker 4 (01:41:36):
Wouldn't it be price to watch like exciting football to
worry about all the highlights?

Speaker 1 (01:41:41):
I mean I would.

Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
I'd hard to rate these six games on which has
been the least interesting.

Speaker 7 (01:41:46):
I mean, there are people that have to do much
more physically enduring jobs and for us to complain about
how many more games there could be, we're just obviously
very fortunate to be here. But yeah, there are six
games going on this first window. And you guys were
talking about Baker Mayfield. Well, he has thrown a touchdown
pass here in the fourth quarter to Mike Evans, and

(01:42:08):
that's got the deficit for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His
bucks to twenty to seventeen against the Colts about nine
to forty nine to go in the fourth quarter. There
other games that are ongoing, but we do know that
I wanted to mention this really quickly though. Baker Mayfield's
numbers five hundred and fifty four yards passing two touchdowns
and one interception, Falcons twenty one the Saints twelve. That's

(01:42:31):
about ten minutes ago in the fourth quarter. Jesse Bates
the third. Essentially, people are saying on social media he
is single handedly allowing Atlanta to have a lead and
hopefully a win. He had the pick six, He's got
a forced fumble, He's got a fumble recovery as well,
nine tackles.

Speaker 1 (01:42:48):
The man is all over the place.

Speaker 7 (01:42:50):
Jon Robinson has caught a touchdown and he has run
in one as well, So let's not forget about that.
As far as the scoring support for that Atlanta offense.
These Steelers have a thirteen to seven lead against the
Bengals six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. There
Kenny Pickett two hundred and sixty yards passing, and the
keynote here, guys, is no interceptions from pigot Nagee. Harris

(01:43:13):
did get in the end zone once. Thirteen carries eighty
seven yards for the key ball carrier for Pittsburgh, Will
Levis one hundred and fifty three yards passing, and Derrick
Henry two scores on the ground. Twelve carries forty five
yards for the Titans, who are trying to hold on here.
It's a one score game for the Titans against a
one to nine Panthers team seventeen to ten Tennessee in

(01:43:34):
front about twelve minutes remaining in regulation. They're also the
Giants and Patriots in a slobber knocker of a game
in the sense that there really isn't much offense.

Speaker 1 (01:43:44):
Do you say slabber knocker? Yeah, that's importantly did Wow?
Yeah that's good.

Speaker 3 (01:43:49):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
Yeah, that's a really good I'm going to use that
a lot.

Speaker 7 (01:43:53):
Wouldn't that be the perfect way to typify the way
this game is going?

Speaker 3 (01:43:56):
Very much.

Speaker 7 (01:43:57):
Yeah, it's like old school just runs football from the
twenties and thirties.

Speaker 1 (01:44:04):
Get those leather helmets out.

Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
Yeah, tell you what.

Speaker 4 (01:44:06):
Yeah, damn slabbery a Franks broke out there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
It's a real humdinger.

Speaker 1 (01:44:14):
Yes, I love that. Yeah, what a habitasher? What is evan?

Speaker 3 (01:44:17):
A habit dasher?

Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Habit dasher?

Speaker 7 (01:44:19):
Yeah, and you could say both defenses or offenses are
having ho hum efforts or hum drum efforts.

Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
Drums better?

Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
Yeah, enough of this, tom fo.

Speaker 1 (01:44:28):
Yeah, oh there you go.

Speaker 7 (01:44:30):
So Giants ten, Patriots seven midway through the fourth quarter.
And last week, guys, really quickly Texans. They had a
lead fourteen to thirteen, and now it's eight points in
the third quarter for the Jaguars and an extra field goal.
Theyre to add things to their lead in the fourth
twenty four to fourteen Jaguars over the Texans eleven twenty
in the fourth quarter. Trevor Lawrence three hundred and fifty

(01:44:51):
eight yards passing and as they send it back to you,
Rich and Steve, if only we could get that kind
of effort from a UCLA quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:45:00):
Yeah, that would have been.

Speaker 1 (01:45:01):
Nice this year, but unfortunately did not happen.

Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Yeah, Lawrence has had a big day. But one thing
we know about this Texans team, don't count them out.
Still plenty of time for CJ. Stroud and company to
turn this thing around. This Fox Sports Red Zone Radio,

(01:45:27):
So Giants lead the Pats ten to seven. The reason
we're talking so much of this is that the Tommy
DeVito fanfare on social media knows no limits. His passer
rating in this game is over one hundred one oh
three point eight, again with much fun. He's having fun
and DeVito's getting the job then not getting a whole

(01:45:50):
lot of help out of their running game. Saekwon Barkley
only has forty three yards rushing in this game. As
far as the Patriots combine quarterbacking, their combined quarterback passer
rating is thirty three point nine, no touchdowns, three interceptions.
At some point Belichick is going to have to I

(01:46:12):
don't know if they lose this game to it bit
and the Giants are terrible by the way, the Vito
has been sacked five times, which is average.

Speaker 1 (01:46:20):
Like the two worst.

Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
Offensive lines in the NFL are the Giants and the Jets.
I mean, there are no worse offensive lines currently in
the NFL than the Giants and.

Speaker 3 (01:46:29):
The Geants, There's no doubt.

Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
And so they're getting DeVito on the ground. But it's
still enough, not enough at least now, because you have
no offense. What's the new Belichick spin? I mean, he
still has to whether I mean they still have six
more games after this, Yeah, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:46:47):
You don't you can't spin it. It's bad football.

Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
Well, what means he gonna say postgame? I mean, I
know that he doesn't say a lot now win or lose,
but at some point, I mean, the questions are still
going to be fired his way. And I'm just I mean,
he's never had to face a situation like this.

Speaker 4 (01:47:06):
Oh, You're absolutely right, And it's because he's had special,
talented quarterback virtually his entire career. And I made this
point when a lot of people were attacking Belichick earlier
in the season, and I'll make the point again. Now, Look,
without a special quarterback, you can't win in this league.
It's been that way forever. You go back to Bill

(01:47:27):
wash Walsh in Montana. You know it's the same.

Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Then act as Paul Brown and Otto Graham absolutely And
after Otto Graham retired, guess what Paul Brown, who actually
had a team named after him, if he did not
know that Browns fans?

Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
Who was Luis Record?

Speaker 4 (01:47:45):
Who is Roger Starbucks coach Tom Landry? Tom Landry we
remember his name in part because of Roger Starbucks.

Speaker 3 (01:47:53):
No doubt. You know I mean this, It doesn't matter,
It doesn't matter who we're talking about. Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson.

Speaker 4 (01:47:59):
It doesn't matter who who you're talking about, Patrick Mahomes,
Andy Reid, We're going to always, always, inexorably link great
quarterback play to great head coaches because guess what, you
need both.

Speaker 3 (01:48:12):
You need both to be a dynasty.

Speaker 4 (01:48:15):
You need both for continuous success, and if you don't
have both, you're not going to be continually successful. And
unfortunately for the Patriots, they've entered an era where it's
been Cam Newton, and it's been Mac Jones, and it's
been Brian Horrier at times when he was still there,
and it's Bellie Zappi, and it's just, I mean, those

(01:48:36):
aren't going to be the answers to this problem. You
gotta find the next Tom Brady. If you're going to
have a special run, you need to have a special quarterback.
And right now, if I'm Bill Belichick, the only way
I'm saving my job is I'm convincing Robert Kraft that
if we suck bad enough this year, I'm gonna go
out and I'm gonna get us the best quarterback in

(01:48:57):
this draft, and we're gonna fix things around here.

Speaker 10 (01:48:59):
All Right.

Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
I have Chris with a dynamite stat that he wants
to share with us right now.

Speaker 9 (01:49:04):
So, just as a quick update, the Steelers have actually
have just now passed four hundred yards of total offense
here against the Cincinnati Bengals. It has been fifty eight
games where they have not passed four hundred yards of
total they've been piling two of the twenty twenty COVID season.

Speaker 3 (01:49:24):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
Well, once again they get into the red zone here
and they're forced to settle for a field goal attempt.

Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Yeah, it's been bad in the red zone today for
the Pittsburgh Steelers. They're one for three on trips in
the red zone and it's just not good enough. You
gotta score on those opportunities when they present themselves. But
Kenny Pickett twenty four for thirty three two seventy eight
through the air, Najie Harris fifteen carries, nine to nine
yards and a touchdown Friarmouth. Their their tight end nine

(01:49:55):
receptions one twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:49:56):
Him back is huge for them.

Speaker 3 (01:49:58):
Huge.

Speaker 4 (01:49:58):
He's a he's a playmaker, and obviously when you have
a quarterback who is in as talented, you really do
like to highlight the running backs and the tight ends
in the passing game.

Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
And they're getting it to.

Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Them now here's the latest set it down for the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
Yeah, let's hear it.

Speaker 2 (01:50:16):
So they had a first down on their own thirty
six yard line. They ran the ball for a one
yard loss incomplete pass, and then Zappi gets sacked for
a seven yard loss.

Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
Ooki dookie, and.

Speaker 2 (01:50:29):
That resulted in yet another punt for the Patriots. So,
I mean, when you have a set of downs, fresh
set of downs and you end up with negative yards
instead of positive yards, something's not working. I will tell
you this. The Saints are trying to come back now
on the Falcons. So twenty one point fifteen Falcons lead

(01:50:49):
this game, but the Saints have the ball right now
first ount their own thirty five yard line six and
a half minutes to go in that game.

Speaker 1 (01:50:55):
By the way, the Steelers field goal is good.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
So they increase their lead over the Bengals to sixteen
to seven less than three minutes to go in the
fourth quarter. So looks pretty good for the Steelers to
get to seven and four.

Speaker 1 (01:51:07):
I mean, it's unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:51:09):
You know, we talked about this about the University of Iowa,
right yep. I don't know what the final total offense
standings for FBS, but going into the final week they
were still last out of one hundred and thirty teams.

Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
They won again yesterday, ugly.

Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
Ten and two with the worst offense in the entire country,
like ya, not one of the bottom fifteen or no,
last out of one hundred and thirty teams, last one
thirty out of one thirty, and they go ten and
two and get to the Big Ten championship game.

Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
And by the way, if you haven't noticed, the Iowa
uniforms look like the Seiler uniforms, same uniforms.

Speaker 4 (01:51:48):
Well, and what's amazing about that situation is that's that's
the exception because just like we were talking about in
pro football, it takes a great culture builder and a
good quarterback or a great quarterback to have.

Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
Content new success.

Speaker 4 (01:52:00):
In Iowa, they haven't had a good quarterback and lord
knows how long.

Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
Yeah, Randy Duncan was runner up for the Heisman. Actually,
Chuck Long nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Chuck Long in nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 1 (01:52:12):
He's been runner up to Bo Jackson years ago. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Well, oh well, Brad Banks, I'm sorry, I mean, I
know Iowa people are.

Speaker 1 (01:52:20):
Screaming at me.

Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
He was the runner up for the Heisman at Carson
Palmer in two thousand and two. All these names are
coming to my head, right of course, of course, yes,
it happens to Mary.

Speaker 3 (01:52:28):
Yellow and black. Look here, here's the deal with the Hawkeyes, though.

Speaker 4 (01:52:31):
They they've found a way, almost like Mike Rabel for
a time in Tennessee, to hide some of their inefficiencies offensively,
to put it as kindly as humanly possible, with great
defense and a strong enough running game that they can
take time off the clock.

Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
And play keep away a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:52:50):
And when you have that, you have that sort of setup,
you can make it work for a time at the
pro level.

Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
But then things will catch up to you.

Speaker 4 (01:52:58):
Obviously, Derrick Henry's health, some other health issues. Defensively for
the Tennessee Titans, it's going sideways this year. But at
the college football level, nobody has done a better job.

Speaker 3 (01:53:10):
With as paltry of.

Speaker 4 (01:53:12):
An offense as Kirk Ferentz and keeping a job because
most times there would be every I mean, people would
be coming with their torches and pitchforks to your front door.

Speaker 3 (01:53:22):
This guy somehow had double digit wins.

Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
All right, It does not look good for the Texans
they had a fourth and one at their own forty
six yard line. They went for it and Stroud through
a deep pass on fourth and one from his own
forty six incomplete. So the Jaguars with a ten point
lead and the ball takeover on downs.

Speaker 1 (01:53:42):
So we'll keep our eye on that. We'll continue on.
I know at least one.

Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Of these games is gonna come down to an exciting finish.

Speaker 1 (01:53:49):
I'm praying my fingers across. This is Fox Sports Red
Zone Radio. Shotgun Snap gives it to Taylor and he
back pedals his way in touchdown. Jonathan Taylor two rushing
touchdowns today for j T.

Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
Colts sixtend their lead.

Speaker 10 (01:54:05):
It's twenty six to seventeen as the confetti flies here
at Lucas Oil.

Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
That's Colts Radio Network. Colts now lead the Bucks twenty
seven to twenty four minutes ago in the fourth quarter
in that game. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
We are live from the ty iraq dot Com studios.
Five of our six games are one score games, and
one's about to become one as the Texans trying to
come back against the Jaguars. And we've seen this from CJ.

(01:54:30):
Stroud week after week don't count this kid out. They
have a and they just got the touchdown. Wow pass
to Collins for the touchdown. So just like that, the
Texans are one point away from making this a three
point game. But again, no doubt about this talent of CJ.
Stroud And as we always talk about young quarterbacks and

(01:54:53):
the eyeball tests, do they have the look of belonging
on the field, Because veterans have that, Guys that have
establish themselves.

Speaker 1 (01:55:01):
You can just see a certain swagger. Call what you
will that.

Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
Yeah, I'm a guy that understands a good play at
a high level to be successful in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
But CJ. Straud seemingly has had that from day.

Speaker 3 (01:55:14):
One, Oh, no question about it.

Speaker 4 (01:55:16):
Well, it starts with belief and he believes in himself
and his players have grown to trust him and believe
in him too. His head coach obviously has. He has
the full faith of his head coach and Demko Ryans.
This is what it looks like when you get it
right at quarterback coming out of the draft. He is
a special talent. He's only going to build on this.
It doesn't look to me like a flash in the

(01:55:38):
pan situation because there's no tricks to this. You know
this isn't him just outrunning everyone, and you think, well,
he's kind of a cheat code, right, a dual threat guy.
What happens with defense his game plan for him? No,
he's doing it from the pocket like he's doing it
the right way. He's learned this offense, he's understanding what
defenses are doing to them, and he's getting huge wins

(01:55:58):
in huge moments of the Houston Texans.

Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
All right, so let's run down the scoreboard quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Here the Falcons have just made a field goal, so
they look in good shape, leading the Saints twenty four
to fifteen, one forty seven to go in the fourth quarter.
We've got the final seconds ticking off right now with
the Pittsburgh Steelers leading the Bengals by a score of
sixteen to ten.

Speaker 1 (01:56:21):
However, they are no, I guess they are taking.

Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
A knee and that is a final score. So just
like that, the Steelers have advanced to seven and four
on the season. They beat the Bengals by a score
of sixteen to ten, and as Chris said that the
first time the Steelers have had over four hundred total
yards in offense despite only sixteen points in let me

(01:56:47):
count it out.

Speaker 1 (01:56:47):
Four years.

Speaker 9 (01:56:49):
Yeah, since Week two of twenty twenty, so three yeah, wow, So.

Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
Over three and a half years since that happened. But
the Steelers come away with a victory the Titans. This
has been I thought I had to reset to see
if the computer was stuck. Titans are leading the Panthers
seventeen to ten. That score has been up forever. Four
minutes to go in the fourth quarter there, now here's
a big one. The Colts leading the Buccaneers twenty seven

(01:57:14):
to twenty. The Bucks have the ball two twenty to go,
so we'll see if Baker Mayfield can lead a comeback there. Meanwhile,
speaking of comebacks, the Patriots have the ball third and
eight right now at the Giants twenty yard line. Chris,
can we get that one up now?

Speaker 1 (01:57:32):
On the score?

Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
Bailey's Zappi trying to engineer an unlikely comeback here in
a game that has been as ugly as advertised. All right,
let's keep it right here on this game. So we
have thirty one seconds to go in the fourth quarter.
The Patriots are at the Giants twenty yard line, trailing
the Giants by a score of ten to seven, and

(01:57:56):
on third and eight, they run the ball. Wow, now
that is unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
Now a gannon.

Speaker 2 (01:58:03):
The last seconds are going off, so apparently they're just
going to run it down for a game tie in
field goal.

Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
But you would think third and eight at the twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:58:11):
Yard line that you, I don't know, might try a
pass to win the game.

Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
But oh no, no, they're doing it the right way.
I mean, look, I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:58:21):
Wow, this what why?

Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
Why?

Speaker 4 (01:58:23):
Why on earth would you would you have your care
if you're trying to win, if you're legitimately trying to win,
why on earth would you risk the turnover?

Speaker 2 (01:58:31):
Well, I remember we said the winner of this game
is a loser. This would be the perfect game to
end up in a ten ten tie, oh my gosh
after overtime, and very possible considering how end up these
offenses have been. But first we have to have Ryland
come on to attempt a field goal. It's not a
long field goal attempt. I believe it's going to be
about thirty four yards, but dude, this is this gamely

(01:58:56):
five yard field goal attempt.

Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
This game is just out rageous right now.

Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
All right here we go thirty five yard field goal attempts.
Six seconds ago in the fourth quarter of the Patriots
trying to force this game. Do we really want to
see more of this game that.

Speaker 3 (01:59:10):
We know we do not?

Speaker 2 (01:59:12):
Yes, Brian Dabele doesn't even want to see more of
this game. He's on the sidelines. They call a time out. Really,
you're gonna ice the guy? Yeah again, if you're the Giants,
the idea is actually to lose this game.

Speaker 1 (01:59:25):
Will not just ice the guy ice us. We wanted
to call this field goal here, yeah we did.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
We're running out of time toward the top of the
hour here, but we're gonna try to Look at Bailey zappy,
he feels like I did my job. I got myself
in scoring position. You're damn right, all right, We're just
gonna have to guess on this one. I'm gonna predict
it's good. I'm gonna say good. We had ot coming up,
all right, that's New Yorks. Keep it here for the
actual answer. This is Fox Sports Red Zoe Radio.

Speaker 10 (01:59:52):
Rookie is set from thirty five to tie it Snap
is good, kick on its way and over.

Speaker 3 (01:59:57):
And it's so good. Pig, mister White laugh.

Speaker 2 (02:00:00):
Violent, mister wildlift, don't ever underestimate my ability to turn
the fortunes of any team. W fan Giants Radio Network.
That is unbalievable.

Speaker 3 (02:00:17):
You think Belichick told this kicker, if you make this kick,
you're fired.

Speaker 1 (02:00:23):
I mean, that was unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
You know we're going in the break right at the top,
we'd run out of time. We both said, yeah, we're
going to go to overtime, right, we really want overtime.

Speaker 1 (02:00:35):
No, we don't want any more of this game? Hooked it?

Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
I mean, and like you say, maybe Belichick said, you
want to keep your job, you don't make this kick.
Think about the whole sequence at the end of that game.
I would love I know he's not going to say
anything postgame about this. You run the ball on third
and eight at the twenty yard line, you don't even
make an attempt to win the game. On the clock

(02:01:00):
all the way down to five seconds, you bring your
kicker on for a seemingly gimme thirty five yard field goal.
He misses. What do we say again about the winner
of this game? The winner of this game ends up
a loser. Giants now four wins, They're out of the chase.
They've pretty much taken themselves out of the chase for
the number one pick in.

Speaker 1 (02:01:21):
The draft of the Patriots. They are in sweet position
right now at two and nine.

Speaker 2 (02:01:27):
All right, By the way, Fox Sports Red Zone Radio,
we're broadcasting live from the ti rack dot Com studios.

Speaker 1 (02:01:32):
Tyrack dot com.

Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
We're gonna get you there and on matched selection, fast
reshipping free road as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tire Biden should be.
By the way, the Colts did beat the Buccaneers twenty
seven to twenty so the Colts are six and five,
very much in the playoff chase. The Bucks big loss,
they dropped to four and seven. We mentioned the Steelers

(02:01:56):
getting the win sixteen to ten on the road against
the Bengals. Falcons hang on to beat the Saints, so
those two teams now are tied for first place in
the NFC South with the great record of five and six.
So we have two games going on right now. The
big game is the Jaguars and the Texans. They got
the two minute warning. Texans have the ball trying to

(02:02:20):
get into field goal position rich but they face a
second and twenty five from their own thirty two yard line. Meanwhile,
Titans trying to put away the Panthers right now leads
seventeen to ten, a little over a minute to go.
Titans have the ball deep in Carolina territory. But again,
this is the point when we look at a situation
with a quarterback like and by the way, they're running

(02:02:41):
out the final second. So the Titans are going to
beat the Panthers by a score of seventeen to ten.
But getting back to the Texans here, this is the
kind of situation we've seen all season long with CJ.
Stroud where it seems like maybe not this week, and
then he fingers out a way to win a game,
or at least in this case, trying to send this
game in over time.

Speaker 4 (02:03:01):
I I'm I'm so hung up on this Pittsburgh Steelers
offensive stat Yeah they that they before today. The last
time they had a four hundred yard total offense game
was back in Week two of the twenty twenty season. Yep,
Like like, I went back and I looked at that game.
So they beat the Denver Broncos. It's a twenty six

(02:03:21):
to twenty one final in Pittsburgh. They got out to
a two and oho start Ben Roethlisberger twenty nine to
forty one, three hundred eleven yards, two touchdowns and a pick.
James Connor sixteen carries for one ZHO six and a touchdown.
Like the Steelers, this feels like a different era of
the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 2 (02:03:40):
In some ways, it's the same because it's Mike Tomlin, right,
Mike Tomlin, So he makes think about this.

Speaker 1 (02:03:46):
They don't fire people in Pittsburgh, No, they don't. They
just don't.

Speaker 2 (02:03:50):
I mean, this was his handpick guy who he elevated
to offensive coordinator a couple of years ago to hopefully
ignite an offense that you know, I hit the skids
with a Decaine Ben Rothberger. It didn't happen, And the
first week after he is fired, they have their most
offensive production in terms of yards, not points, but yards
in three and a half years.

Speaker 1 (02:04:12):
All right, So now we're.

Speaker 4 (02:04:15):
So the last time, the last time the Steelers had
four hundred yards of total offense. The Emmys were virtual
and they were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Speaker 3 (02:04:23):
We were steeped in the middle of the pandemic.

Speaker 1 (02:04:25):
I remember that in the sense that nobody watched. That's
a great but I remember about that, all right, CJ. Stroud.

Speaker 2 (02:04:31):
Now is they're at the Jacksonville forty six yard line.

Speaker 1 (02:04:37):
We just had a sack of CJ. Stroud.

Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
So it's a second and nineteen, still plenty of time,
minute ten to go. I'm looking here and Houston is
out of timeouts. So right now they figure they want
to get down to about the thirty one yard line.
They need about fifty more yards to get into a
reasonable field goal range to send this game into overtime.

(02:05:03):
So here we go, second and nineteen at the forty
six yard line for the Texans. Stroud throws the ball
over the middle. That's going to pick up a few
yards and more, actually fighting for yards inside the forty
yard line again though no timeouts, so the clock is
running right now inside a minute fifty five fifty four.
They still need a few more yards here, Rich to

(02:05:26):
get into field goal range. Right now, it's.

Speaker 1 (02:05:27):
About a fifty seven yard er.

Speaker 2 (02:05:29):
That's too long, all right. They snapped the ball quickly.
Stroud is going to scramble. I just feel like every
time this guy's going to come up.

Speaker 1 (02:05:37):
With an answer.

Speaker 2 (02:05:38):
Oh I know, and he is looking around and he
has to throw the ball away and it's incomplete. So
they are now looking at a fourth and twelve. All right,
So what do you do here?

Speaker 1 (02:05:48):
Rich? Thirty four seconds left, no timeouts.

Speaker 2 (02:05:53):
If you try to kick a field goal, it's a
fifty six yard field goal.

Speaker 4 (02:05:58):
No, you got to you gotta find a way get
this first down. I mean, there's there's no other way
about it. You're you're within three points, you can go
for the time. But matt Amadola is new to this team.
Do you trust him in this moment or do you
trust CJ.

Speaker 3 (02:06:11):
Stroud?

Speaker 1 (02:06:11):
Well, they're gonna bring Amadola on.

Speaker 2 (02:06:13):
Oh boy, so he is like you said, he was
brought in after their kicker was injured. Kyimi Fairbairn in
his career from fifty yards, he's over four yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (02:06:26):
I never made a fifty.

Speaker 2 (02:06:27):
Yard field goal and he's attempting one from fifty six yards.

Speaker 3 (02:06:30):
I don't know. I don't love the decision. I'd put
it in the Actually it's not.

Speaker 2 (02:06:34):
Forty six, it's a fifty eight yard A tip, lord,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:06:39):
More than twelve.

Speaker 2 (02:06:40):
I mean again, a tough call here.

Speaker 4 (02:06:44):
Look, this is one of those calls where I guess,
probably by the book, he's doing I'm talking tomko Ryans,
he's doing what's right? You know what I mean, I'm
sure the book would tell you to try to attempt
it if you have a kicker.

Speaker 2 (02:06:56):
Who well, the odds are making a first down of
fourth and twelve aren't good. But yesterday Alabama on a
fourth and goal from the thirty one won the game
with a touchdown pass.

Speaker 3 (02:07:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:07:04):
Yeah, I mean you know, look, I'm who do you
trust more, Amondola.

Speaker 1 (02:07:09):
Or this one?

Speaker 3 (02:07:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
I mean again, we're talking about a kicker who's never
made a fifty yard field goal and he's attempting one
from fifty eight yards. Yeah, the odds are this is
going to be short or blocked. Well, I think they're
actually purposely lining this. Normally would be a fifty six
yard field goal, but they're actually lining them up deeper,
so I guess it won't be blocked. Yeah, I guess

(02:07:33):
they think if he can make it from fifty six,
he can make it for fifty eight.

Speaker 1 (02:07:36):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 2 (02:07:37):
This is the field goal attempt to try to send
this game into over time. The kick is up, it's straight,
it's straight. Oh my, it hits the crossbar. My my,
I mean it was dead center, dead center and hit
the cross bar.

Speaker 3 (02:07:57):
Unreal.

Speaker 1 (02:07:58):
That was the biggest kick Avon Doola's life.

Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
And by the way Hendy kicked it from fifty six
instead of fifty eight, he probably would have made it.

Speaker 4 (02:08:06):
H I mean it was legitimate. It banged off the crossbar.

Speaker 1 (02:08:10):
It was.

Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
It was dead center, I mean center and all right
in the middle of the crossbar.

Speaker 4 (02:08:19):
I don't know, but for whatever reason, still still in
my heart, like even though it was that close, Steve,
I'm still thinking if if it was in and out
of the hands of a receiver or c. J. Stroud
came up a two yards shy on a scramble or something,
it's the way to me this game should have ended.

Speaker 3 (02:08:37):
If fast end anyway.

Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
Well, that means the Jaguars now have a two game
lead in the AFC South as they advanced to eight
and three on the season.

Speaker 1 (02:08:45):
Texans fall two six and five.

Speaker 4 (02:08:48):
What a finish Houston man. That is the toughest out
in football right now. Oh yeah, you will get fought
to the bitter end when you play CJ.

Speaker 3 (02:08:57):
Stroud in the Houston Texans.

Speaker 2 (02:08:58):
But meanwhile we get back to the Jaguars and again
I look at the Jaguars in the same vein as
I look at the Detroit Lions, both teams sitting at
eight and three, you know, well on their way to
the postseason. But can they do some jammage now? The Jags,
of course, got a playoff win last year thanks to
the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (02:09:15):
And second half their unbelievable collapse.

Speaker 2 (02:09:18):
Remember in that game, Trevor Lawrence had four picks in
the first half and still was able to.

Speaker 1 (02:09:23):
Come back and win that game.

Speaker 2 (02:09:24):
All right, So we have a couple of games just
getting underway right now. The Rams at the Cardinals, Browns
at the Broncos. Will continue to update you on everything
around the NFL. This is Fox Sports Red Zone Radio.
Steve Harman and Rich Harnberger with you here on Fox
Sports Red Zone Radio. We are live from the tire

(02:09:45):
rack dot Com studios. All Rich, I want to play
a highlight for you, by the way, with the Patriots
lost today, dropping the record at two and nine, that
means that for the third time in four years since
Tom Brady left New England will have a losing record.
So they went seven to nine, ten and seven, eight

(02:10:06):
and nine, and now they are two to nine as
they clinch yet another losing season. By the way, just
for the record, in the eleven season. This is the
eleventh season in Belichick's career that he does not have
Tom Brady as his starting quarterback. Five in Cleveland, his
first year in New England, the year course that Brady

(02:10:27):
went down with the injury, Matt Castle took over, and
then the four years since Brady left. In those eleven years,
he has won exactly one playoff game that was in Cleveland.
By the way, Basically, with Tom Brady, they were at
least in the AFC Championship game every year. All right,
So let's hear the call we heard earlier, the call

(02:10:50):
of the missfield goal. So what it came down to
was a thirty five yard field goal for the Patriots
five seconds left to send the game against the Giants
into overtime. We heard the Giants call. Let's hear how
the Patriots announcers made the same call on this missed
field goal that would have sent this game into overtime.

Speaker 3 (02:11:10):
Land kicked and it clears the line an't going to
that rise.

Speaker 1 (02:11:12):
It's no good.

Speaker 10 (02:11:15):
It hooks left with three seconds to go, and the
Giants are going to win it by a field goal.
After the myst kick by the rookie rilin. I don't want
to get dissected after this. Had to get rid of
Nick Fulton, right mister're automatic?

Speaker 3 (02:11:35):
Wow?

Speaker 10 (02:11:35):
Has the Patriots on the punt returned by Bryan had
the ball at midfield trying to tie the game, playing
for the tie with the two and eight record, and
now they're going to fall to two and nine for
the first time since nineteen ninety two. Cops the de
Vido co'bs there fifteen minutes from home, drops to the
knee and the Giants have back to back wins as

(02:11:58):
they beat the Patriots by the ten to seven final.

Speaker 1 (02:12:02):
You're at MetLife Stadium in the medal land.

Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
That's what happens.

Speaker 10 (02:12:06):
You get the ball at the fifty handed to Taekwon Thornton,
wait for the field goal, go win the game?

Speaker 3 (02:12:11):
Two and eight? This is this is what you get.
This is uh, this is what you are. You didn't
deserve to win this game, all right?

Speaker 1 (02:12:21):
So the sports having the Patriots radio network.

Speaker 2 (02:12:24):
All right, mister former Patriot, what do you make of
that call and the sentiment that was oozing out of
the names are the guys in the booth?

Speaker 4 (02:12:32):
Look, I mean, this is this is the reality of
the twenty twenty three Patriots. This is a team that
that I mean, they stink that they they they are
a no good football team. They hurt themselves, they make
too many mistakes. They're they're they're an incomplete team in

(02:12:53):
every single way top to bottom, offensively, defensively, and special teams.
And you could throw in a bunch of the old
excuses that everybody can use, injuries and otherwise. But how
many times have we said, yeah, like you know, injuries
don't necessarily matter. Just look at the Patriots, look at
what they're doing because they always had injuries, and Tom
Brady and Bill Belichick always found a way to overcome injuries.

(02:13:17):
And then, like you know, you talk about a star
in Green Bay, like Aaron Rodgers requesting more from his
upper management, saying hey, I need more players, And then
everybody used the Patriots as an example saying, well, you
don't necessarily need stars. Look at Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
They create stars offensively, They take scrap heat players and
make them all pro. You know, same thing with Russell

(02:13:39):
Wilson and Pete Carroll. You know, oh, you know Russell Wilson,
it's a power struggle. He wants more control over the offense. Well,
look at New England Tom Brady. You know he's done
it the Patriot way for all these years, and that's
how you run an organization. Look, the fact of the
matter is the reason why the Patriots were so special
for so long is because Bill Belichick was a great

(02:14:00):
culture builder and Tom Brady was a great quarterback, and
they stayed together for two decades and somehow made it work.
They kept the marriage together for two decades. It looks
bleak because the Patriots don't have a quarterback who's worth
the weight.

Speaker 3 (02:14:16):
Of his jersey in New England right now.

Speaker 2 (02:14:19):
So the first time they have started a season two
and nine since nineteen ninety two. Those are some leaniars
of the Patriots back in the day when they were
completely irrelevant in the Boston sports market.

Speaker 1 (02:14:32):
All Right, a couple of games going on right now.

Speaker 2 (02:14:34):
The Broncos have taken a seven to nothing laid over
the Browns on a samajip Ryan a short rushing touchdown.

Speaker 1 (02:14:41):
Again, Broncos win today.

Speaker 2 (02:14:43):
They're over five hundred, They're on a four game winning streak,
and as you said earlier, Rich, if this team makes
it into the postseason, Sean Payton's navigated the postseason a
few times over the course of his many years, and
in New Orleans look out. And they also have a quarterback,
Russell Wilson that's been there before a as well. Meanwhile,
the Rams have a seven to nothing lead against the Cardinals.

Speaker 1 (02:15:04):
This one's personal for me.

Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
Tyler Higbee on the receiving end of the touchdown passer
Matthew Stafford, My daughter babysits his daughter.

Speaker 3 (02:15:14):
Oh wow, Paris, Paris watches Tyler's kid.

Speaker 1 (02:15:19):
Yes, there, their little daughter. She's adorable.

Speaker 2 (02:15:22):
And so meanwhile, Kyler Murray has just run for a
touchdown as the Arizona looks to tie up this game.
Kyler Murray, a couple of games into his return, has
looked pretty good.

Speaker 3 (02:15:34):
Looking pretty good, I meaning pretty good. One one record
and almost a two and zero record.

Speaker 2 (02:15:41):
I mean, apparently he didn't get the memo that they're
trying to position themselves. Remember, this team was overwhelmingly picked
to be the worst team in the NFL this year.
Joshua Dobbs actually played pretty well for them early in
the year. Remember they got that win against the Cowboys.
Then things went the little sideways. Whatever happened to that.

Speaker 4 (02:15:58):
Guy Dobbs he's he's in Minnesota, that's right, and he's
still doing some pretty special teams for a Vikings team,
keeping the wheels on there.

Speaker 2 (02:16:08):
I will say this about Callery on this opening drive
one right down the field, touchdown, we're tired at seven.

Speaker 4 (02:16:13):
Yeah, doing exactly what he should do. Because if he
wants to stay through the rebuild and be a part
of it in Arizona, he needs to prove to this Arizona,
this Arizona front office, and this new coaching staff that
he's he's worth keeping around and that's he's committed to build,
helping them build this program as strong as they possibly can. Well,

(02:16:37):
the other side of that coin is play as well
as he can if you want to get out of Dodge. Also,
because if come the end of the season, he doesn't
like where this franchise is heading, I mean things have
already soured in some ways. You know, from a public
narrative standpoint, he could very easily put in his request
for trade, and I think the the Arizona Cardinals would oblige,

(02:16:58):
and I bet you they would be able to find
a trade suitor, somebody who's interested in taking on the
talents and maybe some of the complications of having Kyler
Murray on their roster because Kyler Murray is like vitamin
C to an offense.

Speaker 3 (02:17:12):
I know, I know.

Speaker 4 (02:17:13):
He doesn't do everything right, and there are limitations to
his game. He's five foot nine, for crying out loud,
so throwing over the middle short isn't going to work.
You know, he's going to have to get outside the
pocket to complete some of the passes that you'll see
these six or five prototypical quarterbacks complete over the middle.
But if you can get around that mental hurdle and
realize that he can hurt you with his arm, he's

(02:17:36):
a great improviser and he can hurt you with his legs, well.

Speaker 3 (02:17:40):
I think he's a trade candidate, by the way.

Speaker 2 (02:17:43):
So the Cardinals made the extra point, but there was
a penalty on the Rams, so they moved the ball
half the distance and Arizona decided, yeah, we'll take the penalty,
we'll go for two, and they got it. Yeah, And
so Arizona has taken an eight to seven lead over
the Rams in that game. All right, I want to

(02:18:05):
talk about the Kansas City Chiefs for a second here.
So the Chiefs today are on the road against the Raiders,
Chiefs coming off that disappointing loss where they got shut
out for the third consecutive game in the second half,
this time losing to the Eagles. Chiefs are seven to three,
and Tony Appears has done a pretty good job of

(02:18:26):
the Raiders team. They were in that Miami game to
the end. They ended up losing's two to one. As
a head coach. But I look, I don't watch the
Kelsey Brothers podcast, but Denise does. She is addicted to
that podcast. Interesting, So she watches it and she's like,
you got to watch this. So they were talking after

(02:18:48):
obviously Jason's Eagles beat Travis's Chiefs, and Jason didn't want
to bring up the negatives for the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (02:18:56):
He didn't have to because Travis.

Speaker 3 (02:18:58):
Did interesting and he was you.

Speaker 1 (02:19:03):
Could see like, I know, I have to be here
because we're you know, paid to.

Speaker 3 (02:19:07):
Do this, making tons of money doing it, But.

Speaker 2 (02:19:10):
I don't really want to be here right now, because
he admitted they got problems, and he didn't want to
talk about you know, you know, Valdez Scantling dropping a
touchdown pass that could have won the game.

Speaker 1 (02:19:23):
You want to go there.

Speaker 2 (02:19:24):
He was talking about the fact that more and more
teams are figuring out how to minimize Kelsey's impacting games.

Speaker 1 (02:19:32):
Look, if you're playing the.

Speaker 2 (02:19:33):
Chiefs, they got Travis Kelcey and a bunch of wide
receivers that can't catch the ball. And so in these
second half, three consecutive games, Chiefs zero points. That seems
impossible when he had Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey on
the field. But teams are trying. They finally figured this
whole thing out. Take Kelsey out, make these wide receivers

(02:19:55):
make a play, and they're not making plays. So it's
gonna be very interesting. I think Raiders should be competitive.
This game is just kicking off right now. I think
the Raiders can be a competitive But for the Chiefs,
it was obvious in listening to Travis Kelcey there are
problems right now and they haven't been able to figure
it out.

Speaker 3 (02:20:16):
Wow, well will there's a lot there.

Speaker 4 (02:20:19):
I will say this, if if you're smart, that's the
way you should defend the Chiefs. And I think there's
a lot of defensive coordinators who get too cute, who
think they're going to affect Patrick Mahomes with the blitz,
And the truth is it's weird with Patrick Mahomes, he's
actually better against against pressure than he is against coverage.

(02:20:43):
And what I mean by that is it's atypical normally
when you pressure a quarterback and forces them to make
worse decisions, not better. But in Patrick mahomes case, and
this is over the course of his career. Now there's
enough numbers to reflect this, and even when Tyreek Hill
is still there, he struggles to be patient.

Speaker 3 (02:21:01):
So when you.

Speaker 4 (02:21:02):
Drop eight or you drop seven and you have double
coverage on Kelsey or his favorite target on whatever play
or passing concept that they're running, and he has to
wait and check down and check down and check down,
it forces him to get impatient and try to play
hero ball and make a big play because he gets impatient.
And so teams that have figured this out, they don't

(02:21:24):
pressure him. They play a lot of coverage. They double
Kelsey because he's the only true receiving threat on that roster,
and they force Patrick Mahomes to take with The defense
is giving him a lot of underneath stuff, a lot
of crossing pattern stuff, flares and swings and flat routes
out of the backfield. Some of those slants and mesh
routes over the middle and he just gets bored. It's

(02:21:47):
not the style of play. He wants to pump it downfield.
This guy can throw the football sixty eight miles per hour.
He wants to heave one on you, and sometimes he
does and he.

Speaker 2 (02:21:56):
Coughs it up, by the way, Travis Kelcey also said
he's been ad libbine too much. He actually, I mean
he was It was all about self admission, and he
was talking about the fact that I need to do
what Andy Reid tells us to do.

Speaker 1 (02:22:10):
I don't know. That sounds like somebody that had Andy
Reid in.

Speaker 2 (02:22:13):
His ear a couple of times, no doubt, But he
admitted that maybe I'm I'm just trying too much to
add lib out there and make things happen. By the way,
his record this year in terms of production is very
different with it without his significant other.

Speaker 4 (02:22:29):
I just want to I will, I will say that
there is something to be said about distraction.

Speaker 3 (02:22:36):
And I listen. I know this is a global phenomenon.

Speaker 4 (02:22:41):
I know that everybody's paying attention and it is overwhelmingly positive.

Speaker 3 (02:22:45):
For Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 4 (02:22:47):
But going to Argentina, you know, and and and traveling. Look,
the bye week is about getting healthy. Yeah, the bye
week is about resting your head a little bit. It's
about get away from football for a seconds.

Speaker 2 (02:23:01):
About being a good boyfriend. If she's going to be
there for you, you need to be there for her.

Speaker 4 (02:23:07):
Hey, listen, there's a lot of guys who get married
on the bye week.

Speaker 3 (02:23:11):
There's a lot of guys who go to family reunion. Yeah. Well, listen,
I'll tell you right now. Love is a two way street.

Speaker 4 (02:23:20):
And you can be a global icon and an international superstar,
but you got to understand how football works. If you're
going to be in a relationship with me.

Speaker 2 (02:23:28):
Yeah, well, I mean she's a global phenomenon and she
made time to be at his games.

Speaker 3 (02:23:33):
You're not lying, and but I will say I will
say this.

Speaker 4 (02:23:37):
Nobody's hitting you when you're on stage, well, unless you're
Dave Chappelle recently.

Speaker 2 (02:23:41):
All right, all right, yeah, let's find out what's trending
right now. Another guy that has a global empire of
his own. Yeah, there is many, many different. Well, I
mean it's it's a resume that knows no limit.

Speaker 1 (02:23:54):
We like to be versatile.

Speaker 7 (02:23:55):
Yeah, you know, somebody once told me that versatility is employability.

Speaker 1 (02:23:59):
Yes, so hundreds of interviews you've done over the years.

Speaker 7 (02:24:03):
Yes, have you interviewed Rich before? No, we need to
get Rich on Rich. But that would be a lot
of fun. All right, I'll hit you up. It's fun, Rich.
It's a sports media podcast where we talk about the
human sides of people.

Speaker 2 (02:24:13):
I talked about getting naked and jumping into pools.

Speaker 7 (02:24:16):
Yes, he did, and I clipped that part off, and
I wanted to make sure that people saw that.

Speaker 3 (02:24:20):
No, yeah, yeah, it was fun anytime, Brian, I'm in
all right.

Speaker 1 (02:24:23):
Will we will work on having that happen.

Speaker 7 (02:24:26):
And what we are watching is the second window, afternoon
slash evening games of the NFL. The early window, there
were six games. Five of them were one possession differentials,
including what happened at the end of this Jaguars Houston
Texans game where the Texans, in the hopes of trying
to force overtime. How to look at a field goal.

Speaker 2 (02:24:49):
From the left hash from fifty eight yards away, matt
Amandola Johnson puts it down.

Speaker 3 (02:24:56):
There's the kid, the fifty eight yard field goal. Is
it hits the crossboar?

Speaker 1 (02:25:01):
It is no good. It hit the crossbar and came back.

Speaker 3 (02:25:06):
The field goal is no good. Hit the Jack takeover.

Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
It'll take a knee one time.

Speaker 7 (02:25:14):
I love the annunciations there no good. Yeah that was
the Jaguars radio network, so yeah. The missed field goal
fifty eight yards at the end of the fourth quarter
by Houston allowed the Jacks to win it twenty four
to twenty one. Giants by virtue of a missed field
goal from the Patriots late in the game, win ten
to seven against the Pats. They are now two to

(02:25:36):
nine on the season. The Colts victorious twenty seven to
twenty against the Buccaneers, Jonathan Taylor getting in the end
zone twice with his feet. The Titans pick up a
win against a lowly Panthers team that goes to one
in ten on the air, and after the Cats had
just ten points, Titans seventeen to ten winners. Derrick Henry
in the end zone twice as well. The Steelers finding

(02:25:58):
their offense slowly but surely sixteen to ten. They punctuate
things with the winning Cincinnati against the Bengals, Nijee Harris
with a score, and the Falcons twenty four to fifteen
winners against the Saints. This was a game where Bjeon
Robinson had a touchdown caught at touchdown on the ground.
Chris Olave, the star wide receiver for the Saints, came

(02:26:20):
out of this game of the second half with a concussion,
and James Bates the third also ran back a pick
six and he had a fumble recovery of a forced fumble.
He was all over the field and then quickly games
are going on right now. The Broncos score first seven
and nothing against the Browns. That is first quarter, three
minutes to go. Late in the first quarter of the
Cardinals got that two point conversion after the Caler Murray

(02:26:42):
two yard touchdown run, so they're in front of the
Rams eight to seven. A couple minutes into the first quarter,
the Raiders on the board first seven to nothing against
the Chiefs. Eate and O'Connell throwing his score and Bill's
and Eagles no score there just about three minutes in
to the first quarter. Really excited to Rich and Steve
to see how that one plays out and if we're

(02:27:03):
going to get a better version of Buffalo Yeah bfen.

Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
By the way, very interesting drive opening drive for the Eagles.
Three passes, three incomplete passes, Hunt Yeah, no runs pass
pass pass incomplete, incomplete incomplete three and out, Bills get
the ball back. No score in that game, Bfenn, thank
you so much, great job. As always, Let's get into

(02:27:29):
this Bill's Eagles matchup right now.

Speaker 1 (02:27:32):
As of today, the Bills are on the outside.

Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
Looking in as far as the playoffs and the AFC side,
which seems unimaginable considering the talent in this team and
where the Bills have been over.

Speaker 1 (02:27:41):
The last several years.

Speaker 2 (02:27:44):
They lose today, they go to six and six rich, yep,
and then they really have an uphill climb and then
they you know, you get to the point where you say, well,
you know, we're in the mix, but it's not only that.
You have to you know, start winning games. But then
all of a sudden you need other teams to start
losing games.

Speaker 3 (02:28:00):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (02:28:00):
So yeah, dependent on them to lose and you win
all at the same time. Not a good position to
be in if you're the Buffalo Bills. So we've talked
about this. You know, Josh Allen throwing a lot of interceptions,
hasn't been the same quarterback since Brian Dable left as
his guru and everything else. But that's not the only
reason that the Bills find themselves struggling to get back

(02:28:23):
into the playoff picture in the AFC.

Speaker 4 (02:28:25):
Yeah, you know, I look at the Bills as a
very curious team this season in the second half because
after the firing of Ken Dorsey, and the question is,
you know, can Josh Allen revive this situation?

Speaker 3 (02:28:38):
Well, not on his own.

Speaker 4 (02:28:40):
I think Josh Allen is one of those quarterbacks who
likes to have a voice in his head, who likes
to have someone in his ear, likes to have a
guiding principle, and somebody who really Shepherd's better quarterback play.
I think he panicked without Brian Dable. I think he
really did. I think last season we saw the panic.
I think he never looked comfortable since Brian Dable has left,

(02:29:01):
and that includes this season as well with Ken Dorsey
prior to the firing. Now, the question is, to me,
it's more about Joe Brady than it is about Josh Allen.
We know Josh Allen can play at this level.

Speaker 3 (02:29:12):
We just know. I mean, he's.

Speaker 4 (02:29:14):
Intangibly a very talented football player at this level, certainly
a top fifteen quarterback, definitely one of those guys who
can get to the postseason.

Speaker 3 (02:29:23):
But can he be supported.

Speaker 4 (02:29:25):
By Joe Brady anywhere close to the way he was
by Brian Dable. And so Joe Brady, you look at
his resume and you say, well, it worked with him
and Joe Burrow when he was at LSU, didn't it.
I mean, Joe Burrow was the last truly talented quarterback
he's had his hands on before making his way to
the quarterback coaching room in Buffalo and being promoted now

(02:29:48):
to inter remoc. So this is the question. It's not
about to me. It's not as much about Josh Allen.
It's about his coaching. Can Joe Brady handle this at
this level?

Speaker 1 (02:30:00):
All right?

Speaker 2 (02:30:01):
So the Chiefs are trailing the Raiders by a score
of seven and nothing. Adam O'Connell in his opening drive
four for four fifty seven yards throws a touchdown past
the Jacobi Meyers. Here's how the Chiefs drive started. Mahomes
first pass was to Pacheco for an eleven yard loss.

(02:30:22):
That was the first play of the game. Then the
second play he was trying to get Travis Kelsey open.
He overthrew him. Third play short of the first down,
so three and out for the Chiefs to open up.
So the Raiders jump on him early seven to nothing. Now, again,
I don't want to overplay the Chiefs because they have
a proven track record, but they've also keep in mind

(02:30:45):
this about Mahomes moving forward to the playoffs. He has
never had a road playoff game. Now, he's had neutral
site games at Super Bowls, but remember they have hosted
the AFC Championship Game five straight years. He has never
had a playoff game on the road.

Speaker 3 (02:31:05):
Yeah, but he's got a great road record.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
He does, but in the postseason he has no record.
So I again, I don't know if the I mean,
if the Chiefs sort of lose today, forget the division.
I mean, I mean, right now, think about this. They
lose today and the Broncos win, the Broncos are a
game back.

Speaker 1 (02:31:23):
They're kidding me.

Speaker 4 (02:31:24):
Look, I'm not worried about it. Look, here's the deal.
Mahomes is a special talent.

Speaker 2 (02:31:29):
He is a special talent, but he doesn't have a
lot of special talent around him save Travis Kelce.

Speaker 3 (02:31:35):
He's thirty six and ten on the road throughout his career.

Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
Okay, but that's in the past. Let's get into the moment.

Speaker 3 (02:31:41):
No, no, I get it.

Speaker 4 (02:31:43):
Look, this season is different, but also we're talking about
a Chiefs team where I know it's different. I know
it doesn't look the same as years past.

Speaker 2 (02:31:52):
He's the twelfth rated quarterback in the league. He's never
been out of the top five in his career.

Speaker 3 (02:31:58):
I don't know if that's true. I know if you know,
if that's true, I.

Speaker 1 (02:32:01):
Know, But I mean, I'm the leaking at this.

Speaker 3 (02:32:03):
Why say it as if it's a fact? Looks Steve, but.

Speaker 1 (02:32:05):
When has he been this bad late in the season.

Speaker 4 (02:32:10):
The reality of the situation is Patrick Mahomes and Andy
Reid are going to go as far as this defense
right now carries them, and as far as they can
go offensively if they can shore things up. This is
a tech this excuse me, a ten one football team.
This is a a seven and three football team, right.

(02:32:31):
This is a team that per Vegas said that was
going to finish this season twelve and five.

Speaker 3 (02:32:38):
I think that's like the.

Speaker 1 (02:32:39):
Over runner was eleven and a half wins.

Speaker 4 (02:32:41):
Yeah, yeah, so that's if you take the over you're
saying it's a twelve one football.

Speaker 2 (02:32:46):
Normally when they struggled a little bit early in the year.
I remember a couple of years ago, Mahomes was a
little uneasy was, you know, throwing the ball a little sideways.
But as they progress through the season, obviously playing their
best football at the end of the year. I mean,
you know, you got into the conference championship game five
straight years. But this is I go back to the

(02:33:07):
and I'm watching Travis kelcey and and there was concern
in his eyes, like we're looking for answers right now
and we can't find them.

Speaker 4 (02:33:14):
He was just coming off of a humiliating loss after
a bye week where he went on this big trip
to Argentina, didn't play well coming back from it. And I'm
sure he heard about that too from his head coach. Yes,
also Andy Reid, famous for his wins off.

Speaker 3 (02:33:30):
By Yes, maybe a little overconfident they.

Speaker 1 (02:33:33):
Will maybe this is a little different.

Speaker 4 (02:33:34):
And then oh, by the way, on his podcast he
has to sit next to or across from the screen
from Yes, his brother who plays for the TV just
lost to Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:33:43):
But he wasn't piling on him, No, no, he was.

Speaker 3 (02:33:45):
He was very sensitive. I get that.

Speaker 4 (02:33:47):
But my point is we're getting we're prisoners of the moment.
If we're going to say there's something really wrong with
the Chiefs this year, they played the Raiders twice, including today,
they play the Packers. They play the Bengals, who are
without Joe Burrow, the Patriots, and the Chargers to finish
this season. Okay, oh, and the Bills. I apologize, I
forgot the bill. They play the Bills on December tenth.

(02:34:08):
I mean, do you see do you see honestly more
than two losses the rest of the way.

Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
No, no, but I.

Speaker 2 (02:34:15):
Do see conceivable that the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes could
be looking at a road playoff game that could be
a hurdle to get to the Super Bowl. A. Right,
we'll continue on the other side, keep it right here.
Much more coming up. This is Fox Sports Red Zone
Radio three.

Speaker 10 (02:34:31):
On the play clock snaps Fuel Coddle, Chiefs bring four
over the middle.

Speaker 1 (02:34:35):
Fifteen, Buters print to time on the five touchdown. Raiders
took Toby Myers with a slim run over.

Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
The middle, and Ain Noconddle caps off a perfect opening
drive with.

Speaker 1 (02:34:48):
A nineteen yard touchdown passes to Toby Barrs. That's Raider Nation.
Radio nine twenty am.

Speaker 2 (02:34:54):
Raiders lead the Chiefs seven and out eight and they
have the ball at midfield six minutes to go. In
the first quarter in that game. That's also our Progressive

Com studio. So had an interesting dynamic here today, Rich
So again, we had Brian Finley in today for Monsey
and Bfen after a late night last night. Was a
champion today. Great job for Bfenn. I have not seen
Bo the entire show. The reason being is Chris came

(02:35:39):
in today playing hurt and BO did not want to expose.

Speaker 1 (02:35:43):
Himself to that.

Speaker 2 (02:35:44):
So BO has been producing from a different area, different
zip code. But Chris powering through the show today on
the heels of his lions disastrous Thanksgiving Day loss.

Speaker 1 (02:35:56):
I saw on it and powered through.

Speaker 2 (02:35:59):
So Chris tremendous job today under the circumstances. Because I
know you're hurting man.

Speaker 1 (02:36:04):
Yeah, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:36:05):
Yeah. The guys flexing all the right muscles. Yeah, he's good. Stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:36:09):
He's been nursing it throughout the show today.

Speaker 7 (02:36:12):
Not to speak, by the way I speak, I'm in
big trouble.

Speaker 2 (02:36:16):
Yes, thank you very much. So he's not going to
speak anymore here. Your voice is going to be rested
the rest of the day. This ain't O'Connell looking pretty
good in this game right now. Obviously the Chiefs defense
has been outstanding this year. But the Raiders opening drive
one right down the field and scored. They now have
a second and five at the Chiefs forty three yard line.
So I'm watching O'Connell. He got blasted on one play,

(02:36:38):
came back the next play and through an absolute dime
to Jacoby Myers for a first down. So again, this
has been such an interesting few weeks for the Silver
and Black, with the fire into Josh McDaniels firing of
the general manager like a do over, and Mark Davis
decided Antonio Piers, despite having no coaching experience, be the

(02:37:00):
right guy now if he has the kind of finish
that Basacha had a couple of years ago. I hope
the Raiders don't make the same mistake they made by
getting rid of Bassachia and going in a different direction.
If it's working with Antonio Piers. Give this guy a chance.

Speaker 3 (02:37:16):
I agree with you.

Speaker 4 (02:37:18):
I think Antonio Piers was handed a chicken scratch and
he was told to make chicken salad, and so far
pretty good.

Speaker 3 (02:37:27):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:37:27):
He was also told, by the way, we're going to
start the rookie at quarterback, right.

Speaker 4 (02:37:31):
Yeah, there was no debating it. We are going to
force your hand. We're going to put Aidan O'Connell in there.
And so far he's two and one as a head
coach and right now has a seven to.

Speaker 3 (02:37:41):
Zero lead over the Chiefs.

Speaker 4 (02:37:44):
Here as the first quarter is coming to an end,
and they're driving on this Chiefs defense, who have been
really the bright spot of this Kansas City team all season.

Speaker 1 (02:37:52):
Oh absolutely, So we'll see how this plays out.

Speaker 2 (02:37:54):
Meanwhile, the Broncos already leading the Browns seven to nothing
and they are down to the brown five yard line.
Drian Thompson Robinson is the substitute quarterback for the Browns.
Near and dear to me with his UCLA background. He
was at UCLA I think ten years anyway, he's five
to eight for twenty four yards and they have no

(02:38:15):
offense right now.

Speaker 4 (02:38:16):
Pretty sure dtr was at UCLA when Nixon was in office,
which is incredible.

Speaker 2 (02:38:21):
I think he was Gary Beban's backup when Bevan won
the Heisman way back in the day. I'm not sure
I'd have to look that one up, but yeah, he's
not what we call the permanent choice. Because again, this
is a Browns team that comes into this game today
at seven and three, I mean firmly in a playoff
position despite the injury to Deshaun Watson, so they're not

(02:38:43):
going to let their quarterback get in the way of
apostible run of the postseason. With Miles Garrett and company,
I had great defense doing their job. So yeah, dtr
is week to week and right now not looking good.

Speaker 3 (02:38:54):
No, not looking good.

Speaker 4 (02:38:56):
And here's the reality of this whole situation is Deshaun
Watson was supposed to be the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback
and the answer to all of their prayers desperation is
what forced.

Speaker 3 (02:39:07):
Them to make this move.

Speaker 4 (02:39:08):
And this is a team desperate for quarterback to take
them over the hump, which is a rather large hump
when you look at how bad this team looks offensively
compared to their defense. I mean, this is the same
problem going on in New York with the Jets, Robert
Sala traded for Aaron Rodgers. Was hopeful and due to injury,

(02:39:29):
has the same problem the Browns have.

Speaker 1 (02:39:31):
By the way, Tyler Higbee just scored another touchdown.

Speaker 3 (02:39:34):
Big day.

Speaker 2 (02:39:34):
Now, this is a good thing for my daughter. This
means extra money for her babysitting.

Speaker 3 (02:39:39):
Keep it here.

Speaker 1 (02:39:40):
