Jeff Schwartz, good afternoon to you, buddy. Everything good in
your world as we get set for Game three t
Wolves taking on the Dallas Mavericks here.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Everything is good, happening a world day to everyone. Thank
you to all the veterans who've allowed us to have
this day. We give things to you before we talk
about sports here for for another three hours.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Brian, absolutely, it uh.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
It's good, you know, I just you know, you know,
so the thing about sports and gambling and things we
like to watch, it just goes in waves, you know,
like and you just have to you gotta ride the waves. Right.
You have days where you lose a wager because of
a Doug McDermott tip in at the end of the
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
That's oddly specific.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Jack, And you have other days where like, you know,
the Oils come back and score seven against the White
Sox and you cover. You know, just it just it's
one of those days. Man. You know, we have lots
of sports on today. I got wagers sort of all
over the board. I got a UFL and softball Indy
five hundred. I have a who I got a text, Yeah, softballs,
you can make money in that. I have a text
(01:30):
from someone buddy of mine who said his friend who
knows the Indy five hundred is on this plus four thousand.
So I have twenty five dollars brought on a plus
four thousand here as he watched the Indy five hundred.
So you know, we got plenty of action basketball tonight. Baseball. Man,
it's a good time for sports.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
You know. It's funny.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Last year, so I was doing a bunch of fill
in stuff for an Indianapolis radio station.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, I came up with you a few times.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah you did, that's right, And leading up to the
Indy five hundred, reinterviewed a couple of the drivers. And
so I got to go to the race last year
and I'm walking there with my girlfriend into the race
and I'm like, you know what, I'm thinking about putting
one hundred bucks on the two guys I interviewed before
the race. I'm like, Nah, that's just stupid. I'm just
probably throwing two hundred dollars away. Well, one of the guys,
(02:21):
Joseph Newgarden.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Won and he was forty to one.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So if I laid one hundred bucks, I would have
won four thousand dollars Jeff, But I just I thought
that would be a bad wager.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
One hundred bucks is a little heavy for that. Maybe
twenty dollars twenty hours a little bit better than that.
My guy right now is fifteen. I think his name
is Hunter ray as my ill who it is, I
gotta look you, I gotta check it out. But four thousand,
huh indy five hundred today had a Aaron Rodgers s start,
(02:52):
just an immediate big crash on a lap one after
a multiple hour rain delay. So it's up and running
the racing and you I'm not a racing fan per se.
I mean, I don't mind watching some of the bigger
races until you sort of go in person. I've been
to a couple of NASCAR events. Man, it's hard to
(03:14):
really understand how fast they're moving on television.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Man, Yeah, it is. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I've been to the Indy five hundred a handful of times,
made it to the Brickyard Race there, the NASCAR race
and Indy handful of years ago, but especially the Indy
five hundred.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Jeff.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
If you're I don't care where you are as long
as you're close to the track. You're just like, oh
my gosh, these guys are scaring.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Two sixteen right down the back of the back stretch right.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
There, like, yeah, yeah, he's up to twenty two climbing
like yeah, they're they're moving. They're moving pretty good right there.
And I love what they've done with the the way
the cars have I'm not going to do a deep
dive on Indy racing, don't worry, Jeff. But the way
that they've changed the race cars They draft so much
(04:04):
more now. It's a little bit more like NASCAR in
a way where you weren't able to draft and get
those runs to pass people.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, the way you can now.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
And so last year it was basically a one lap
shootout for the final uh you know, to win it all,
and New Garden passed on the back. You know after
two and two the other guy almost passed him after
turn four. It's a lot of fun that they can
draft and pass that way.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Now, So are you are you on him again if
he's third right now?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
No, I don't have any d five hundred bets. I
thought the same thing this year. I'm like, I don't
really know what the hell I'm doing. I'm just, you know,
blindly throwing darts. So I stayed away.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yeah, well, sometimes better stay away. We're not staying away
from basketball tonight. I feel look, I feel like tonight
is gonna.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Be you on this one. Yeah you big Uh?
Speaker 4 (04:54):
No, I have the under tonight. And I got Anthony
Edwards over points and rebounds over a rebounds and assists.
He had a lot of rebounds in the series. If
you've noticed, I mean just a lot. You know, a
lot of times when you look at some of the
problems for the players, but rebounds and assists is a
lot about matchups. If you're guarding a guy who is
a perimeter offensive player, you typically have good rebounding opportunity
(05:18):
because you know when a shot goes up, you're able
to get to the lane basically unabated. There's no one
you're not boxing anyone out. You're just sort of standing
there and the ball finds you a lot. It's happens,
you know, if you're happened with a lot with Tatum
last series where he just was I heard who was guarding.
He just was like sacking off his guy and just
was right there to get a rebound. And so that's
one thing to look at tonight. The question is obviously
(05:40):
ken antheawards score points and you know, Brian, it's so
interesting how our opinions change about the NBA almost series
by series. Yeah, but one thing that this series in
the Western Conference is teaching us and really, well we'll
talk about the Boston a few minutes. I have very
(06:00):
angry message I sent Brian about Jason Tatum all the
time is you know, you you cannot overstate the importance
of having a closer on your team and the ability
for Luca and Kyrie Irving to finish in big moments,
(06:21):
to know that this is our guy in that moment. Now,
Luca might he could have missed that shot, by the way,
and I still would feel the same way, right, but
he didn't. And by the way, he went to his
right set of his left but he did some amazing
things on that play. Having that guy in any series,
whether it's last year with the Nuggets, whether it was
it was all those years with Steph Curry, with all
(06:42):
your you know, with with Lebron being that guy for
so many years, you have to have that player to
win an NBA championship. And I don't know if Anthey
Edwards is there quite yet, Brian. For the most part,
championship teams tend to have their best players about twenty
(07:04):
seven years old, like Steph Curran went to was twenty seven,
you know, like Jordan, how many years say Jordan to win? Right?
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Even Lebron and Andy it which is a fantastic basketball
player and he's gonna leave the playoffs as like a
top five player if he's not there already, right like
like we're gonna we're gonna sing this praises for years
to come. But I think the last couple of Knights
have showed. And these are these were home games too.
It wasn't on the road. It was a very grueling
seven game series to beat Denver the NBA champions You
(07:33):
went to their place, You had a tougher time than
Dallas did, knocking off knocking off who now you forgot
if Dallas eve been played? Okay, see yeah, But I
think the big difference in this series is that, right is,
Anthey Edwards is not quite at that level to finish
games like Luca and like Kyrie who's done it for
(07:53):
years obviously, And that to me is the difference right
now is and I must ay anything that's that's crazy,
but like else has those guys, they're experienced and andthey
just has to be the guy from Minnesota. He's just
not quite there yet.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
No, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
And look the last three games. You go back to
Game seven against Denver, that was Anthony Edwards shooting six
for twenty four from the field, which was not a
stellar performance at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying, hey,
this guy, you know, it's just a bunch of hot air.
Everybody's singing his praises. This guy is a dud. I'm
(08:29):
not saying that. But your point is well received. He's
just not on the closer level as some of the
elite closers. I don't think there's anything harsh about that.
I think that's on point. Because you're looking at Luca.
You saw what he did to go Bear. And if
you're talking about an elite closer, Luca certainly is that guy.
And you've seen three games in a row for Anthony
(08:52):
Edwards where he hasn't shot very well, he hasn't been
the same offensive threat. Charles Barkley pointed this out, where
maybe he's fatigued. Maybe he's tiring right here, because it's
to play defense, right, to really buy in on the
defensive end like he does, you expand a lot of energy,
and so maybe you're seeing that on the offensive end.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Catch up with him a bit.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
And Brian, he hasn't played this much basketball yet. It
is a is very grueling, right, it is is long
and grueling, and I am I'm not surprised that again,
it takes sort of you know, time and and to
(09:34):
figure out sort of how to play and how to
win these games. Like I understand again, why why you
know it takes NBA players a while to get to
the level where they can again play for so many
weeks and be able to do what Luca and Kyrie
(09:54):
are doing, or do what Denver has done for years.
You know it takes Minnesota time, I think, and there's
nothing wrong with that, but I think we're seeing that is,
you know, something that we are I think missing a
little bit in Minnesota right now.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I think that's the crazy thing with Luca. It's how
many games have we seen the guy where he's not
even close to one hundred percent and his game is different, right, Like,
he doesn't rely on this insane athletic ability that Anthony
Edwards possesses. Luca is just he's like the perimeter version
(10:26):
of Jokic. You know, he just uses his body and
he's really crafty, but he's not this dude that's just
this insane athlete. He's limping up and down the court
and this is not some you know, he's hamming it
up and this is him going Hollywood like. He is
really banged up, and he is still scoring and affecting
(10:49):
the game like in many different ways. So it's really
it's really something that Luca is this good and this
impactful when he's not close to one hund right now.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Yeah, I'm not I'm not totally certain that Luga doesn't
do a little a little a little dramatic a little,
but I certainly think your point stands were just it
looks like he's going to not be able to move
and then all of a sudden he makes you know,
three step backs in a row, you know, And I
(11:25):
you know, I think for this game tonight, Brian, We'll
talk plenty about it as we go through the day,
But I don't see Minnesota losing this game like that.
They're too good, I think, to lose three in a row,
even though this game is in Dallas. But home court
advantage does not matter at all the Western Conference. I
mean it hasn't. I mean last look what happened last series, right,
and then there were six road wins right combined for
(11:45):
those teams. So I don't think at all this the
playing it in Dallas matters very much to it. But
right Minnesota is not losing three in a row. I
don't think, especially the way these games have gone at
the end, I can't see that happening.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I think they're gonna be a royal pain in the
butt tonight because, man, you think about all the things
I think in Minnesota's favor is you look at the
first two games. Those are coin toss games, Jeff, They're
coming down to the wire. I mean, Minnesota had a
five point lead in a final minute last game, you know,
(12:18):
and then Also, you lose a game the way they
lost it, with Luca talking all the smack in the world,
right like, this is a proud Minnesota team, and so
when you lose that way and you have to hear
about it on top of it, and the way you
performed on the road last series and throughout the playoffs,
(12:38):
they've been a better road team. Actually, that's something Anthony
Edwards said. Listen to Anthony Edwards that shoot around today
talking about being better on the road.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
I think we've played better on the road anyway.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
I mean every time we besides the Phoenix series, we
haven't played well at home. So I mean, I think
we're looking forward to this game because we played better
on the road.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Without backing your STI world, well, their backs are certainly
against the wall tonight, Jeff. This is must win territory.
I don't care what anybody says. You can't go down
oh three and expect to win a.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Same no, no, And I think that they I mean, look,
they know that. I think obviously getting to a big
enough lead where you can't have Dallas come back, it's
going to be important, I think right to feel very
comfortable in that. So I do feel comfortable and then
(13:27):
winning tonight. I'm curious if it almost has to be
an Anthey Edwards game, they probably get that done right,
or a Towns game. Towns I they had two quick
fouls another night that I think kind of hurt him
a little bit here. But you know, again, like I
don't know how Luca doesn't have a billion points to
night again, I mean, I don't really see another way.
(13:48):
I mean, they're not that they're going to let him
do it, but it makes more sense to let him
just get off and have no one else do anything else,
you know, So I wouldn't be surprised if if Luca's
another big game.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
He might he very well could. I love that strategy
where it's it's big your poison. Would you rather let
Luca be Luca and be special, you know, and don't
let guys like PJ. Washington get going or any of
the role players, or do you say, let's focus on
Luca and if PJ. Washington cans a bunch of threes
(14:21):
will tip our hat, you know, like's you could look
at it both ways.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
But yeah, there are two schools of thought.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
It reminds me of the NCAA tournament when we're talking
about the big dance in zach Edy, remember that going
up against Yukon, And there were two schools of thought.
And you know, Dan Hurley, he was I thought it
made sense to, you know, focus on Edie and don't
let the other guys get going, and it was the opposite.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
He looked at it differently. So I always think that's interesting.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
But it'll be it'll be cool to see what Minnesota
comes out with tonight, what their game plan is. We
got a lot to get to a Jeff. This coming
up next. This might be the best take of the
entire show, Jeff. And it's not from me. It's not
from you. It's from a person that shall be named
(15:14):
in about five.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Minutes from me.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Okay, all right, we're gonna do that next, Brian, No,
he's Jeff Schwartz.

of it.
Speaker 7 (15:43):
In fact, Tony, why don't you open up one of
those letters right now and read what's inside? Hey, listen
to this. Dear Pauli and Toni, your sports takes the
dumbest and most terribly.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Wait, why this other one?
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Dear Pauli and Tony, you suck more than anyone. Wait,
try this one, Paulie and Tony, you guys are the
absolute best. There you go, coming up with the stupidest.
TAKEUSCO show on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts or wherever
you get your podcasts. O.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Brian, No, he's Jeff Schwartz here on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm coming to you live from the Tirereck dot com studios. So, Jeff,
I was watching some U some baseball today, still watching
some baseball today, but I saw the Detroit Tigers had
a nice little walk off win. And this guy, Matt,
(16:37):
Matt Vierling, he had the walk off home run headed day,
four hits, two home runs, four RBIs, but he was yeah,
he was rocking the Motor City uniforms.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Right.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
It's those City Connect uniforms. And it made me think
of our trusted producer Bo Benson because he said something
to me off the air. Yes, and I'm like, that
is a great take. It's a fantastic take. And so
I mean, in light of these Motor City uniforms from
Detroit and a walk off home run, I think everybody
(17:12):
should hear this magnificent take from our trusted producer Bo Benson.
So Bo, who's with us? If you couldn't do the honors?
Your perspective on the City Connected universe?
Speaker 8 (17:21):
Yes, yeah, the City Connect jerseys. Uh, there is a
there's one simple solution that would fix like ninety five
percent of them. Yeah, that is if the teams just
wore their regular hats with these jerseys. The hats are
the things that throw them off entirely. They all look
like cheap gas station swap meet, you know, right outside
(17:43):
the stadium as you're heading into the game and the
guys are trying to get you to buy a hat
in traffic. That's what all these hats look like. They
look terrible. So if you just wore the regular hats,
I think it fixes most of the problems. Like the
Cardinals jerseys would look fine if they just wore a
regular Cardinals hat. But because they have the block as
t L on the hat. It just looks cheap.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Yeah, but some of the uniforms like have to go
with a hat the Giants ones don't make sense if
the Giants wear a black hat doesn't really.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
No, But I think you just make a hat of
the same color, just keep the logo because yeah, the
Phillies would have to do the same thing. They were
like a baby blue and yellow jersey. I think the
red Sox are baby blue and yellow.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Were the Mets when they're taking that to yesterday because
those were atrocious?
Speaker 9 (18:22):
Yeah, the gray with the bridge on them, Yeah, they're that.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Well.
Speaker 9 (18:28):
I mostly agree with bo here. I I do have
to continuely say that even adding the old English d
back is not going to save the Detroit jerseys from
looking like they got run over by a car. Yeah yeah,
but MotorCity. I'm just tired of the MotorCity name. I've
heard of my entire life about Detroit. I know it's
never gonna go away, but the tire tracks on it
(18:49):
just make it look like you got run over.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
And this is this is also just a Nike issue
in general. I think, like I've talked that.
Speaker 9 (18:55):
They are bad, they are coasting on their legacy shoes.
Speaker 8 (18:58):
I talked with Dan Byer a few times about like
what they've done with NBA jerseys. They've just completely ruined
the NBA jersey and the concept of NBA throwbacks and stuff.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
And this is my hot take on this though, is
that it's up to the league. NFL uniforms, they're fine. Yeah,
the NFL has uniform standards. They make sure that the
uniforms are done a certain way, that they look a
certain way, that there they perform a certain way. It's
up to league to make sure this is done correctly.
He's gonna make what they're gonna make. You have to
(19:29):
tell them what to make.
Speaker 8 (19:30):
Can you guys imagine if, like the Eagles couldn't debut
their Kelly Green throwbacks last year because they got lost
on a truck, like the way some MLB teams have
had to deal with this year.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Yeah, I never it would never fly.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
I just think we're at the point where we could
use some competition in here, because Nike controls all the
major sports at this point, Like, we need some competition
in here from under Armor, Adidas, Like they got to
come up with their own versions to show the like, hey,
we can do quality control better than these guys.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
I can't believe that the uniforms won't be fixed until
next year, because, Jeff, what you're saying, if this was
an NFL issue, if you could see through you know,
like you could see Mahomes's.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Jersey, that'd be insane ripped to his.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
See through pants. They wouldn't be like, well, fix this
in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 9 (20:13):
Be able to see all the coat guards down there.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Or they ripped or like they ripped, you know, like
as often as the baseball pants rip.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Right.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Well, the thing about the why Nike's, Nike's uniforms are
the best, like, at least football wise. I don't know
basketball baseball. I have no idea, but like football wise,
they're they're used because they're the best. I mean, like
that's they're just the best material, best quality. They've been
doing them longer than under Armor and Adidas have. Okay,
we're gonna go back to Russell athletic man, let's do it.
(20:41):
But that's why Nike has the contract. Look, the baseball
thing is they just didn't make them this year. Fanatics
made him right, Like that's the problem. It wasn't Nike.
Now you can blame them for licensing their name to fanatics,
but they didn't make the baseball jerseys this year.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Right, But I love fanatics.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Fanatics pushed back and they're like, we're just making what
they told us to make. Like you know, if if
we're building a house and someone says, hey, make sure
the uh, make sure the door is twelve feet tall,
and you know, twelve feet high, and you walk in
there and you're like, why does this door twelve That
looks stupid? It's like, well, they told us to make it,
(21:17):
they will.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, it's it's in the ultimately, and then it's Baseball's fault.
It's majorly Baseball's fault. Like this your job. It's to
make sure uniforms look good to you know, no matter
what supplier you use, and they just didn't do a
good job of it. I mean it's that simple.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Like I do love I do love Bow's take, though,
Are you on board with it? Like you could be right,
because if you're wearing a hat of your favorite team,
it connects the team to the city, Like if it's
the Detroit you know, the D on the hat or
the STL for the Cardinals or what, that's the city
(21:54):
directly connects the city.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Though.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
You don't need to change that.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
No, the other change has to be made is all
starking go back to wearing their home their own uniforms.
The All Star uniforms are ridiculous. I don't like I'm
a baseball follower, but I we be honest. I don't
know the the name of every best player on every team.
You know, I watch for gambling purposes. A lot of
times I'm not watching like, oh, there's the best player
on this team. You have to go back to wearing
(22:18):
their uniform so I know who they are, like, and
that sounds silly, right, But you want people like me
who are fans of sports to watch your game. And
if I watch the game, I don't know who the
players are with teams. That's silly to me. Like put
them in their uniforms. It looks it looks great when
they're all wearing their uniforms. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
They used to do that in the NBA All Star
Game too, remember way back when, Remember when Jordan and
Kobe in the Garden were in the All Star Game.
They're wearing their their actual uniforms. I thought that was
fine too.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
But the NBA, though has home teams that were like yellow, Like,
I understand why that's a problem. Everyone's wearing white and
you were in yellow because back in the Lakers only
had didn't have the whites. Baseball has white, white, and gray.
Like everyone has a home in a road uniform that's
the same color.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Coming up next, Jeff, I know you're in the market
to make some money gambling lives. You know there's a
bet that you need to avoid, like league, if you're
trying to make some cash. We'll have that for everybody
right around the corner. First, though, our guy Kevin wired
k dubb with us this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
What's going on, Kevin?
Speaker 10 (23:25):
Yeah, we got the Indianapolis five hundred at long last.
It is underway. It was delayed by several hours because
of inclement weather in the Indianapolis area. They had severe thunderstorms,
but around four forty four Eastern time, they were able
to get the race going, but it only went one
lap before they had to stop it again because of
a major crash. But thankfully the delay there didn't last
(23:47):
too long, as they're now in lap of forty six
out of two hundred, though they might not get all
two hundred laps in, they were saying that the goal
was to make it through one hundred and one laps,
which would make the race official. Scott mc laughlin currently
in the lead there at the forty six lap mark.
Major League Baseball huge development in the Pennant Race as
(24:09):
the Braves and Pirates played today. The Braves did win
it eight to one, but the story was Ronald Lacunya Junior,
the reigning MVP, had a non contact knee injury. He
was running the bases and his knee buckle.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
You'll see them attending to that leftnee.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Leftnee.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
Of course, the Braves have struggled with injuries this season,
and now the raiding MVP, Ronald dacunia Junior, limps off
gingerly favoring.
Speaker 10 (24:37):
That left lick that came from Bally Sports South. So
this very well could be a devastating blow to the
Braves as they trailed the Philadelphia Phillies entering today's contest
by seven games in the NL East standings. Elsewhere in
Major League Baseball, many of the games have gone final
Tigers and Blue Jays. This one had several league changes
(24:57):
in twenty five combine run score before the Tigers win
it and walk off fashion Farlan swings Sky said, deep.
Speaker 11 (25:05):
Blackfield, this is not coming back.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Matt Fairlan a bulb.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
And the Tigers walk it off fourteen to eleven.
Speaker 10 (25:16):
Final score. Tigers Radio Network with the call so Detroit
wins this one by three, breaking that eleven eleven tige
there in the ninth inning, Reid's finish off the sweep
of the Dodgers for to one. Red Sox win a
pitcher's duel against the Brewers at Fenway Park two to one,
Mariners over the Nationals at the Nation's Capital nine to five,
Raise beat the Royals four to one, and the Mets
(25:38):
come from behind to beat the San Francisco Giants four
to three. We do have a handful of games in
action right now. Oriols and White Sox. That game was
long delayed because of a rain delay, and they're now
in the bottom of the seventh inning on the south side.
Speaker 9 (25:51):
Orioles lead this one a two to one.
Speaker 10 (25:53):
Rocky's on top of the Phillies five to that game
in the top of the ninth inning, and that game
actually has a just come two in n so The
Rockies do beat the Phillies. Final score in at Denver
five to two. Padres Yankees that game. In the bottom
of the fifth inning, it is scoreless. Diamondbacks and Marlins scoreless.
They're in the top of the sixth inning out in
the Desert. Astros trying to get a win here against
(26:15):
the Athletics. They're up five to nothing. In the middle
of the sixth inning, Guardians and Angels nodded up at two.
Speaker 9 (26:20):
They are in the top of the six.
Speaker 10 (26:23):
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, the series tied one to one
Game three between the Panthers and Rangers Eastern Conference Finals,
and New York right now on top four to two
as they have fifteen forty to go in the third period.
And NBA playoffs, we have about two two and a
half hours to go before Game three of the Western
Conference Finals. Malvericks and Timberwolves hip off set for eight
(26:46):
o'clock Eastern time, Dallas trying to take a commanding three
to nothing series lead Back to you, guys.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
Thank you, keV.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
It's Jeff Schwartz Brian Know with you here on Fox
Sports Radio, coming to you live from the Tireck dot
Com studios. So this is this is not a smart wager, Jeff,
this would be we're looking at the NBA Draft coming
up here and about a month right next month, late June,
(27:13):
and the most bets at BETMGM have been placed on
Bronnie James to be the number one overall pick, which
is a horrible idea.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Because that's not going to happen. That's just now.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
There's a little bit of audio. He's two hundred to
one to be the top pick. Jeff right, So, and
there's some audio. This is Koley Harvey from ESPN and
also Brian Windhorst talking about all these bets that are
are being placed on Bronnie James being the number one
overall pick.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Check this out.
Speaker 12 (27:51):
At two hundred to one, Bronnie James currently has the
longest odds of being selected first overall in next month's
NBA draft, but that isn't stopping number of betters from
placing wagers that he'll follow in Dad's footsteps and be
picked number one.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
Anyway, it's kind of laughable that that would even be offered,
much less that somebody would actually put any sort of
significant money on it.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
I just love that statement so much, Jeff where Windy
is like, it's laughable this would even be offered.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
But yet we have these knuckleheads that are still taking
that bet.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
That's why it's being offered, because people are still taking it.
I think the most sort of surprising thing about this
whole process is that Brownie James is like six '
one the measurement at the combine and they give accurate
measurements now, and I think people would probably not have
assumed that. And he was listed at USC at six
three or six four, and he's just not and that
(28:50):
obviously he hurts his ability to be drafted. Look, he'll
be drafted, probably in the second round by someone. I
don't know if it's don't think it's the Lakers. I
really don't think that Lebron has tied to the idea
of like the Lakers having to draft his son or
he won't. He won't resign there, you know, I understand. Look,
(29:11):
I have a young son. I mean if I won't
be in the NFL when he's in the NFL, but
it would be a very cool and unique opportunity to
have that, you know, have that chance. And Lebron's using
the leverage he has. Look, he's not He's a smart player.
He knows what his son can and can't do. He's
using the leverage that he has being lebron James to
get his son on his basketball team, like and like,
(29:32):
that's nothing, nothing wrong with that. I don't I don't think.
I don't think Bronny James is going to take a
spot from someone who's more deserving getting the twelfth or
thirteenth spot on that roster. You know, if he makes
a roster, I don't get a two way deal. Maybe
I don't think it's I just don't think it's that
it will end up being that big of a deal.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Yeah, I just I find it interesting.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
We've talked about this before, Jeff, where some of these
long shot odds where there are some really sharp bets
that will say, I mean.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
The value is just too much to pass up.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
You know.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I think if a better says I think it should
be around like one fifty to one that Bronnie's the
number one overall pick, and it's two hundred to one,
I just can't pass that up.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
I've always thought that silly.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
I don't know if that makes me more of a square,
but it's like you have to have a legitimate shot
of winning whatever bet you place.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Yeah, I work for Fox Sports as well, covering your gambling.
And one thing that you know that they always like
us to write about an articles, especially when it comes
to futures, is the long shots, right, give me a
long shot, MVP, give me a long shot this or not.
And I every time I do it, I write basically
(30:47):
like I would not tell you to wager on this guy.
But if you, if you want to, like you, if
you really feel the need to wager on on someone
to you know, seven thousand to one to be the MVP,
I guess sort of, here's your guy. I've never understood
the idea of of value. Your point about the Sharps
is a little bit different because they have a system
(31:09):
and that's sort of what they do. Or guy cracked,
I don't think does that at all. By the way,
I don't think he takes a you know, a plus
you know, two hundred and one because he feels like
I should be one fifty to one. But I certainly
know sharps to do that. But the idea of value, right,
people think, I think, mistake the da of value and
they think it's like the longest odds you can get.
To me, that's not what value is. Value is is
(31:32):
is taking a wager you think you can win with
the odds that are good enough to win, right, Like
I never, I just I never understood this, Brian, Like, oh,
I'm gonna take a plus five thousand over someone who's
minus one hundred. Well, the minus one hundred, I probably
gonna win. You're gonna win money, Like I never, I
just don't understand. Take the money, take the bet you're
(31:52):
gonna win. A more chance to win one hundred dollars
is one hundred dollars. Like you one hundred dollars. If
you win a minus one hundred wager, you bet hundred
dollar on it.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
I have no problem with a long shot bet that
has a chance to win. I'm not saying stay away
from all long shot bets because there you cash long
shots all the time.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
But what do you consider a lot like like if
it's chief super Bowl plus six hunter is not a
long shot?
Speaker 2 (32:17):
No, definitely not. No, that's one of the favorites, you know,
is the Chiefs winning a Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Again?
Speaker 2 (32:23):
A long like a long shot that would have a
prayer of winning would be something like the Houston Texans right.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Long shot anymore?
Speaker 9 (32:32):
Jeez, or I think I.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Think hugheson what are they down to now to win
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Look it up?
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Oh I thought you had it in front of.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
All, Look got up. But I mean they move so
much after because everyone's everyone's sort of on.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
How about this?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
How about this, like, uh, you might disagree with this,
but take a team like.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Plus six hundred. They're the ninth best odds.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Okay, that's that's a bit of a long shot, longer shot.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
How about Jacksonville where it's like, I don't I don't
love the chances of them winning a super Bowl, but
they had a winning record. You know, they got Trevor Lawrence.
Maybe the light bulb goes on. There's at least a chance.
If you go out and you say, you know what,
I'm I'm gonna put some money on Bryce Young and
the Carolina Panthers to win a Super Bowl this season,
(33:18):
It's like, bro, you're just throwing money away. That's the
thing with Bronnie James, that's a long shot that has
no chance to win if you're betting on him being
the number one overall pick.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I know, the combine workout was great, and he's.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Moved up spots in the draft boards, and that's fine,
but he's not gonna go number one overall. Agent Rich
paul I love this. He came out and he said,
Bronni will not sign a two way deal, meaning you
would split time with a G League team and the
NBA team. Number one overall picks are not having to
(33:52):
answer that question, you know what I mean? Like that
tells you, right, there's there's no chance he's the number one.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
There's no chance. Are you actually look at the NFL
odds right now. I'll give you a team that I
think this is what this is in my mind with value. Okay,
the Browns are plus four thousand. Okay, for reference teams
in AFC, the Jets are plus twenty four hundred, the
Dolphins are plus twenty four hundred. The NFC Falles are
plus twenty four That's different because the NFC is a
(34:19):
little bit easier, right, but the Browns are plus four thousand.
I think is a good is a good long shot wager? Yeah,
like a forty to one that they have a very
talented football team.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
How about their record last year?
Speaker 2 (34:30):
By the way, Jeff, with all these backup quarterbacks, they
won eleven and six.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
If Deshaun Watson can return to something that looks like
what he used to be plus plus four thousand is
a really good number, man.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Yeah, and that that's a long shot bet that at
least has a chance to win. It's like we get
into this with Olympic men's basketball. If you're betting on
like Lithuania, Okay, they got a shot. If you're betting
on like Ghana, it's like, dude, you have no shit.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
What do you.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Ghana is like is like Bronni going number one overall?
Speaker 3 (35:08):
It's just jeez.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
That's why the sportsbook build Bill Towers. Man. You know,
it's not because people are wagering pennies on the favorites
or wagering on Bronnie James or like myself today the
plus four thousand Nasca ind because someone text me about it.
So I don't even know. Whew it's going. We'll see.
I gotta check the standings for this.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Yeah, absolutely, That's the thing, man, Vegas and sports books
they're built on the thought of, like, hey, it could happen,
and there are a lot of bets that simply can't
happen that will.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Happen, right, and you got to know the difference all right.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Right around the corner, we get to a very well
known athlete, been an MVP before, might look a lot
different this season. We'll have some details for you East.
Jeff Schwartz, I'm Brian, Now hang with us right here
Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No here
on Fox Sports Radio, coming to you live from the
(36:06):
tirerack dot Com studios. You know we're gonna call an
audible here, Jeff. We'll get to a former MVP that
might look a lot different this season. We'll get to
it next hour, we promise. But there was a topic
just thrown into my lap right here, and I feel
it's it's our duty to discuss this.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
So Chris Purfett is our technical producer, and he just said,
is i'min Ross Saint Brown, a top five receiver in
the league right now? Now, mind you, he covers the
Detroit Lions very closely. He's had a podcast for a
while and it's relocating.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
It's in the process and doing all.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
That level right now.
Speaker 9 (36:49):
And to be fair, I watched the rest of the
NFL too. This isn't just a provin, but he has
a he.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Has a sharp ey for Detroit Lions football.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Jeff, and he asked me to is he a top
five guy? And you start going through the list, and
there's an argument to be made, but I think justin
Jefferson Tyreek Hill one two that's on most lists, Jamar
Chase is right up there with the Bengals. Now here's
the interesting part, jeff is would you start your team
(37:19):
or would you go into this next season and you
you're picking teams just for one season. Are you going
DeVante Adams? Who's with the Raiders right now? Are you
going with Aman Ross Saint Brown? I'm going Davonte Adams.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Hmmm, right, So I guess the question is like, well,
I mean we're giving devont Adams like a good quarterback.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Again, that's the whole thing is if you play the
what if game, you know whatjeroff same same level as I'm.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
On, I would probably take Davonta Adams.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I would take Davonte Adams.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
That's not I don't think. And here's the thing about rankings.
For me, I like doing tiers because I feel like tears,
I think a lot of guys are grouped very closely together,
and I think like doing tears makes more sense. But
if we want to rank them like who would definitely
be ahead of almar On st. Brown, justin Jefferson, right,
Tyreek Kail? Who else I think I might be, like
(38:17):
Jamar Chase is in there as well. I think we
now agree with you know, with with with Devanta Adams
being ahead of him. Is Stefon Diggs? Probably not.
Speaker 9 (38:31):
I guess the only competition at that point is either
a J. Brown or maybe CD Lamb.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
The ones I like, I like Ceede Lamb in there.
The other, the other one that I think never gets
the credit deserves is is Mike Mike Evans. I think
Mike Evans is like I mean, he's gonna be a
Hall of Famer. I don't think people don't realize that.
That blows your mind. You better hope you're paying attention.
He's gonna be a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 9 (38:55):
I just wonder what we do with Saint Brown and
that the one thing he really can't do is go
that deep route, take the top offs like what Jefferson.
But everything else he does is yards after complex or everything,
even the blocking he will throw for running like everything
is there.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
He's been my one of my favorites. Every year I
do a podcast previewing every division for gambling purposes. He's
been our favorite over wager every year. Now we can't
do it anymore because you just you just can't. You're
not gonna be able to get there, right, Like, there's
gonna be too many people that take Sam Brown overs now.
But you're right, like, I don't know if he'll ever
(39:31):
be in that top tier because he's not a kind
of like, hey, I'll throw the ball as far as
you can, you'll be down there wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Man, you look at Ceedee Lamb's numbers last year, they're insane.
I don't think we focused on it that much because
Tyreek Hill was just going ballistic at the beginning of
the season. But Ceedee Lamb finished with one hundred and
thirty five catches for about seventeen fifty and twelve touchdowns.
Speaker 9 (39:58):
That's an insane So he's third on that list three
yards though.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I know there.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
But that's where we get to the what if territory.
What if amen Ra had Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O'Connell well,
like like Devontae Adams had last season.
Speaker 9 (40:15):
Uh, we can also do this the other way though,
like because Jared Goff really like he's getting better with
throwing some deep passes. But what if he had a
quarterback who could really throw him deep?
Speaker 4 (40:23):
Though? But that's that's But I think it's not like
if you look at the Lions offense, you say Jam,
you say James. He's like the deep threat, right, like
you choose the kind of where they go. He's the
deep threat guy. I think he's in Like I think
in Tier two, I think I look at Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Chance outside but really good?
Speaker 4 (40:40):
All right?
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Coming up next? Are we too critical of this squad?
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Are we too negative when it comes to this squad
that is coming up? We are broadcasting live from the
tyrack dot com studios. Tyrack dot com will help get
you there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand and recommended installers. Tire
rack dot com the way tire buying should be. Man
(41:05):
By the way, Jeff, we got some puck action going
on here, four to four tie with under five minutes
to go in game three. A lot of people thought
this would be a low scoring game, right, First game
was three to nothing, second game two to one. Now
boom goals galore, four to four here, so we're guaranteed
at least nine goals in this thing craziness.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
I like it. More goals better, right, I mean, do
you like watching games like that or do you like
watching games where.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Oh I like it? Yeah? You like crazy goal? Yeah,
I like the crazy goal action. Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
It's not good if you're on the Yankees, which I
might be. The Padres take the lead, They've scored two
runs in the bottom of the sixth. They're up to
one over here, Jeff, a horrible error to start the
inning and it's just gone downhill. Are you a fan
of the suicide squeeze or the safety squeeze, because I
think they went safety squad.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
He's on this one here.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
You gotta go suicide squeeze all or nothing. I was
about to tweet this out Brian, and I haven't yet
at Jeff Schwartz, but I might soon. We both watch
a lot of baseball. We have our favorite teams. Actually
stop watching the Giants because they're just their mind. They
just I can't do it, even though the last six
schemes have all been decided in the eighth and ninth
inning in both directions. But when you watch a lot
(42:21):
of baseball, as we do because of our gambling habits,
you see weird stuff happen all the time, like it
is the amount of bad baseball, and this is part
of the sport. It's why the sport's so unique. And
just like random nonsense. Man, it is crazy how much
random crud happens. I don't know what I can sayd
(42:44):
to intrust you our radio. It just it is. It's
so weird, man, It's just this is just a lot
of odd baseball every day.
Speaker 2 (42:51):
Yeah, I think, man, if you're talking about odd things happening,
hockey's got to be at the top of the list.
But I would say baseball is right behind that because hockey, bro,
you just shoot the puck toward the net. It could
bounce off a guy's shoulder, hit somebody else's beard.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Gold.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
You know, it's like, how did that? They talk about
puck luck and baseball is absolutely crazy random, There's no
doubt about that. But it is up that you just
can't even predict.
Speaker 5 (43:20):
Man.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
And then also to baseball, same with hockey, you know,
like the presumed favorites sometimes you know, Dodgers struggle a
little bit. We just we've told you know, we had
some of you know, the the Braves with with the
hood injury, like yeah, it is, you know the favorite
sometimes you know, it's hard to hard to win baseball
(43:42):
and is all.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
That pressure, Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
How about this good segue, right, think about the Boston
Celtics and a bit of pressure because we're always looking
at the Celtics for what they don't do well, because
our expectations are so high for them. They wont night,
they won Game three, They're up three to nothing in
a series. You know as well as I do, Jeff,
there's gonna be a lot of people that say, well,
(44:07):
you had Halliburton who didn't play in Game three. Look
at the first two series in the playoffs and no
Donovan Mitchell, no Jimmy Butler right there.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
And I think that.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
This has been an ongoing thing where more times than not,
a lot of the media and a lot of the
talking heads, they'll look at what Boston doesn't do well
instead of what they actually do well, and you blink in,
they're one game away from another finals trip, and whoever
comes out of the West Boston has more than a
(44:39):
shot to end up winning a championship here.
Speaker 4 (44:42):
I think some of the Boston talk is we talk
about Boston a lot of times, or they're portrayed by
the media. I'm not gonna say, you know, every like
like they are multiple time champions and they're not. I
think a lot of pushback is from this idea that
(45:02):
we talk about them like that they are good, they're
reaching another conference finals. This group has not won championships yet,
and a lot of people talk about them. I feel
like a little bit in that light of like they
are going to win, they have won their favorite like,
(45:23):
we talk about them very glowingly for a team that
hasn't won a championship. I mean, that's part of it,
But do you agree there's a little that's it's very positive.
The way the media talks about the Celtics a lot
with the team that I get has it won a championship.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
I think that I think that the expectations are so high.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
I'll put it this way. When they lost to.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
The Warriors, they got there on the cusp of winning
a championship, didn't get it done. That's when they became
championship or bust. Yeah, that's where they're at, and so
that's how we view them. Ask yourself this, the teams
in the West, do we look at that Dallas or
the Timberwolves, as championship or bus teams. No, no, we don't.
(46:05):
It's that we look at that and Dallas.
Speaker 4 (46:08):
Probably probably totally. I think another thing too again, I hate,
I hate going back to this sort of this talking point,
but a lot of it comes down to Jason Tatum
and the way that people feel about him is the
way sometimes we talk about the Celtics team and whether
(46:30):
that's fair unfair. I think that drives a lot in
the narrative where we talk about Minnesota in a certain
way because of Anthony Edwards, we talk about Dallas in
a certain way because of of Luca. I think we
look at the Celtics and you default oft into talking
about the the superstar, which is which is supposed to
be Tatum, which I think is Tatum. I think that that,
(46:52):
I think is partly why the talk about the Celtics
feels a certain way different than other their other organizations.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
Yeah, I think, yeah, it's a little bit of a
i don't know, like a Dallas Cowboys type thing where
they have the rich history. Right, the Celtics have the
most championships. The Cowboys are right behind the Patriots. The
Cowboys have five championships, you know, so there's this mystique, right,
(47:24):
there's this history, it's the Boston Celtics, the park, k
floor like all that type of stuff. Yeah, I think
that factors into it. But man, the here and now,
when it's Tatum and Brown and they've been so close
to a championship, they haven't gotten over the hump. I
think we just look at what they don't do well
instead of what they do bring to the table. Where
(47:46):
I'd put this example out there, Jeff, think about Game one,
the win against the Pacers, where the Pacers definitely did
screw up down the stretch. They couldn't inbound the ball
with ten seconds to go, and then the Pacers didn't
foul and Jalen Brown nailed the corner three and the
Celtics won in overtime. I think if Minnesota is winning
(48:09):
a game the same way, I don't think we're looking
at this like, oh, they're so lucky that they escaped
and that was just a lucky win and blah blah blah.
I think we're looking at it it's like, oh, Anthony
Edwards and look at this team, these young phenoms and
that type of thing. I think that Boston is no
longer the bright and shiny toy. They're the team that's
(48:30):
championship or bust. And if they have a stinker, which
they have a couple of times at home in the playoffs, man,
we go freaking crazy. But it really just shows us
that we expect a ton, Otherwise we wouldn't react that way.
Speaker 4 (48:44):
We do expect a lot, and they play a maddening
style of basketball, even though they score a bunch of
points and still win a lot of games, Brian, which
I think adds the discussion right because you watch them
play sometimes and I think my local j C has
a better run offense. At times offensively you're like, what
(49:04):
are you guys doing? Why are you standing five out
dribbling for twenty seconds and taking a terrible shot like that?
I think is what is so madding about them is
that they're they're really good, obviously, like they're fantastic, They're
gonna be an Eastern Conference championship winner, and yet there's
(49:26):
like so much where you're like, jeez, it can be
so much better. There's so much more to be done here.
If you're Boston and you look at again, with Cleveland
being out Mitchell, Boston sort of lolligag through that game,
Holliburton being out Boston's are you know, lolligag through that
(49:47):
game last night? And with expectation is so high, I
think you expect a little bit better play, quite honestly,
and they just have moments where you're like, what are
you guys doing? How is this the team that's gonna
win a championship? Because because it's your point, we view
(50:07):
them through through the lens of this is the championship
our bus team. If you run an offense like you're running,
you're not winning a championship this way, right, And again,
the Tatum thing kind of sticks in my mind, Brian,
because he's a fantastic point He had thirty six, ten
and eight yesterday. Watch the game. You don't think that,
(50:29):
do you. You look at him, you're like your times,
You're like, it's it's he had thirty six points, ten rebounds,
eight assist. Jason Jason, I watch play did all that.
It's not a forceful I know, this is picking. You know,
this is kind of like nitpicking, right, It's not like
a forceful game from him yesterday when Indiana went on
(50:51):
their big run middle seven quarter to the end of
the third quarter. I mean he had like six points. Like,
he doesn't. He doesn't just take the ball and say, Okay,
I'm taking this game over. I'm gonna be the guy
that wins us for my team. And he does. He
does at times. He did overtime games too, right, But
I think that's part of the narrative about Boston and
why we feel a certain way about them is because
(51:12):
they're Superstar is not as old enough, by the way
to be a go getter, right, He's not Anthony Edwards,
and he just there's times he just doesn't do it
and you're like, man, like, come on, Tatum, like be
the alpha, be the guy, get it done. And that
to me is I think part of the discussion about
(51:33):
him about the Celtics, it's just it's from the Tatum discussion.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
I think that Doris Burke said this last night.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
At one point the Indiana offense, they're just cutting and
moving and there's ball movement, and I remember at the
time thinking she's right, and why don't the Celtics do that?
Speaker 4 (51:53):
You know, so frustrating Brian, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
Because the ball just sticks sometimes or like Samwser, who
cannot hit a three for me?
Speaker 4 (52:02):
Oh killing me?
Speaker 2 (52:05):
My goodness, I keep backing this guy brick airball. This
guy's a really good three point shooter. He can't buy
one in the series. He's over. But anyway, Sam Hauser
or Al Horford, who was magnificent last night, they'll just
park themselves in the corner and they'll just stand there
and that's it. That's their offense. And it's too ISO heavy.
(52:26):
There's just not enough movement. Sometimes it's just Tatum dribbling
the ball and he's like, all right, there's seven seconds left.
I guess I'll create a shot for myself. And that's
their set. And I'm like, they remind me a bit
of the Warriors with Mark Jackson. That offense did not
look the same as it does with Steve Kerr, where
there's way more movement, there are cuts, there are screens,
(52:49):
there's passing. I just wish I could see Boston with
a lot more movement. I'm not against ISO basketball, Jeff,
but they rely on it way too heavy where I
want to see him move around and move the ball more.
I think they'd get a lot more easier shots. They
just don't do it.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
They don't, and maybe it's the head coach. I mean,
there are times I look at them, and I think
to myself, it's a head coach. You're gonna tell them
to like move like like is there like a motion offense.
I'm not a basketbok. The only play I recognized last
night that could call out was when the Pacers ran
switch rub on the final play of the game in
(53:29):
a football formation to get Niemi, which is great. It
was a great shot. We were texting about the Celtics
having to foul. There's there's no way they're gonna not
foul after game one, right like they have to fail,
they have to fild, that have to foul, and lo
and behold they ran a play where you couldn't foil.
I mean, it was a fantastic play. But I'm like,
I know a little bit enough to like move like motion,
(53:49):
move move around, do something, don't just stand there and
and wait for the ball to come to you then
chuck up a bad shot. That's why I think could
by the expectations just maddening to watch them, man, it is. Oh,
it's a tough watching timas, especially when you wager on them.
It's just bad.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
It can be.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
And then there are other times where you might fade
them and they show it's not just their talent, yeah,
but it's every they put it all together and you're like, wow,
they really don't have hardly any weaknesses. And they're doing
all this without Porzingis, you know, like they get Porzingis back. Man,
you're cooking with grease. They're going to be a tough
out in the finals with whoever they face.
Speaker 4 (54:33):
It feels like fading. I would I don't think the Celtics.
I might not wager on them in a game, but
I'm not waging against them because your point like, they
can just have these stretch runs where they are unstoppable. Yeah,
and everyone's and again, this is the manning part is
they do have lots of periods of games where they
look incredible offense. And we saw i think the fourth
(54:55):
quarter last night. We were talking about this via text message.
They just decided to play better defense, and the better
defense led to easier baskets. And those are all things
that we want to see them do more often, and
whatever reason, they just don't sometimes.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
Yeah, it's interesting. I'll say this real fast, is if
you compare Boston to Minnesota, I wonder if this is
a bit of Boston experience. I don't know, it's either
they're lazy at times, they're lackadaisical at times. The first
half against the Pacers, they weren't defending nearly as well.
Speaker 3 (55:29):
As the second half. It was night and day.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
So I don't know if the first half is more
so the Celtics just being kind of stupid and going
through the motions, which it could be a portion of that,
or some of it is experience where you see Minnesota
at times they're just hitting a freaking wall. It is
hard to go that hard defensively for that long and
(55:52):
Boston just they can play top notch defense, but it's
not like they're gonna do that from the opening tip
the whole game, right, and you're seeing that could actually
be a good thing in the long run, as long
as you lock in the way they did last night
in Game three.
Speaker 3 (56:09):
I don't know you understand what I'm saying though, right.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
I think Boston knows they can turn it on, which
is a dangerous thing. Yeah. I mean, I took him
live last night in the fourth quarter because I was like,
this is not gonna lose this game, you know, and
they didn't. Minnesota is not able to do that yet. Plus, look,
Boston is supremely talented offensively, Minnesota's not. I mean, they're talented,
(56:34):
but they're not. They don't have a Derek White to
put up thirty points in a game, right. They don't
have Al Horford. I mean Noasreta did seven three's last game.
But they don't have all the guys that can score.
And you know, Peyton Pritchard scores enough points for them,
they don't. They don't have that guy off the bench,
so they can't score as much, which I think limits
(56:57):
Minnesota sometimes for a defensive minded team when they get
in a rut, they don't have really a way to
get out of the rut.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Yeah, no, I hear you. Hey, let's turn our attention
to ball over here. Yeah, we got some football conversation
with our main man, Adam Kaplan FSR NFL Insider. A
lot to get to with cap. Make sure you check
it out. That's right around the corner. He's Jeff Schwartz.
I'm Brian No. We're live from the tirec dot Com
studios here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian No. He's
(57:26):
Jeff Schwartz here on Fox Sports Radio. We're coming to
you live from the TIREC dot com Studios. Please to
welcome in Adam Kaplan FSR NFL Insider Inside the Birds podcast.
You know, we're listening to some slim shady over here.
Cap you know, little eminem and I have to ask
(57:48):
you about slim Lamar Huh, Lamar Jackson slimming down.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
He's lost at least ten pounds. Yeah, and he says
he wants to move around a little bit extra, That's
what he said.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
What do you think about that, uh, that approach? You
like Lamar slimming down or you think the extra weight
might be a might be a good thing for the
durability concerns there.
Speaker 13 (58:09):
Yeah, Quarterbacks typically do this over the course of the career.
They as they get older, they reshaped their bodies. Lamari
first round pick of twenty eighteen, and boy, I mean
he's he came in, you know, very slender, if you remember,
and he's kind of built his body up. But the
cool story about this is now and we when we
talk about Lamar Jackson's development, He's never worked with her,
(58:29):
he's never had a workhorse back in back of him.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
So this is going to be pretty remarkable.
Speaker 13 (58:34):
And let's not forget in the fact that there were
some of us knew this is probably gonna happen. I
really thought that they were. They were deep in talk
with the Titans at the trade deadline. I thought that
the trade was going to happen and wound up not happening.
So they wanted this guy, and it's gonna look different.
I do wonder, guys, how much Lamar Jackson will run
comparatively to a few two past seasons.
Speaker 4 (58:53):
Adam, Are you also in the best ship of your
life like all the NFL players?
Speaker 3 (58:56):
I was?
Speaker 13 (58:57):
I actually was, you know, since you probably, Jeff, I
was two fifty when I left ESPM.
Speaker 3 (59:02):
I'm down about two ten. Yeah. Well, look, but I
needed to at my age.
Speaker 13 (59:08):
It didn't work. But as you know, Jeff, as you
get older, you gotta be careful. It's a little bit
hard to get in shape.
Speaker 4 (59:13):
Is I love this time of the year because those
stories I think fascinating. Everybody looks great, Yeah, every player
comes back. Is there a favorite one outside of lamarme
to have lost weight?
Speaker 1 (59:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (59:21):
I got you some rookies in the best shape of
their life. Is there one that that that's caught your attention?
Speaker 3 (59:27):
Yeah, I honestly I would.
Speaker 13 (59:29):
Well, here, I'll give you one, just because I've known
about this and it's the section pretty it could be significant.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
Well, it's a big year for Jordan.
Speaker 13 (59:37):
Davis, the Eagles first round over the trade up four
two years ago. Jordan Davis is like he came in,
Let's call it like it is. When he was drafted,
he was not good enough shape and he didn't play
a ton of snaps at Georgia. He was not used
to this kind of environment in the National Football League,
and he came in out of shape, had a very
bad rookie season.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Let's call it like it is.
Speaker 13 (59:55):
And last year you saw really growth in the first half,
fell off again with everything we I've been told for
the last few months. He looks great, conditioning seems to
be pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
But Jeff, you could speak to it better than I.
Speaker 13 (01:00:08):
I don't understand how a guy could be have good
being good condition and around week six or seven, all
of a sudden, looks like he's losing his technique. He's
getting stood up as a defensive line, which is always bad.
So I don't understand how that could happen. But you
would know more more about that than I would as
an NFL player.
Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Well, so, because here's here's I think why. You know,
the off season, you're spend a lot of time with
your trainings, you know, with your your personal trainer, with
the guy you're at a facility, and when you go
back to the team, it's up to you. And a
lot of teams, you know, they're not they're not they
don't they have nutrition us, but they're not with you,
sort of like your personal trainer would be, right, your
(01:00:45):
person nutritionists, they're not living with you or checking in
with you. You know, when you go home at night
and you're in Philly, like it's up to you to
make sure to eat correctly and and not not have
weighted use. I mean, the Eagles just signed someone to
play offensive waw who you know sort of had these
problems in New York like it. That's that was my
problem too, buddy, I was a I gained weight during
(01:01:07):
the season.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
Here's also really in season. Really here's why.
Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
Well, here's what a couple of pounds, not like I
gained like thirty pounds. It's just harder to make weight
every week when you get older older, and then also
later in the season because you've also practiced much less
after week eight. If you put pads on. You're not
even allowed to after week thirteen. But you know, you
practice less, you move a little bit less. The winter
months come, you might want to have a little heartier
(01:01:32):
dinner because it's cold outside. Like you have to figure
out as a player, and Jordan Davis has to figure
this out, that balance right between I like to eat,
I certainly love to eat and what's healthy for my
body during the season.
Speaker 13 (01:01:46):
Yeah, and you know, I know players hire nutritious and
so forth, but it is troubling when a guy that
the Eagles put so much into resources wise, they made
a major trade two years ago to trade up to
get them because super freak Atholetice. You don't see guys
three fifty through sixty move like that. And I know
he's less than that now, but you just hope it lasts.
But yeah, it is true, you know, hope springs eternal.
(01:02:08):
You see this in every market. This player came into
best shape of his career. It doesn't again, we're in May.
It doesn't seem to mean much. It's like when you
fast forward to the season, then you see how long
it lasts.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
He's Adam Kaplan FSR NFL Insider. How about the Chain
Gang probably gone here so optical cracking. Yeah, you're okay
with this?
Speaker 13 (01:02:30):
Huh, Well, this has been talked about in the league
that this has been on their back burner. Because a billion,
multi billion dollar league, the richest in American professional sports,
uses a chain to measure it's just absurd. So the
fact that they're doing this and how this, I know
(01:02:50):
it's a test in the preseason. If this doesn't work,
I mean, you can push the member with a feather.
This has to work. I can't believe that this has
not been a bigger deal. I'm kind of surprised that
it's not going to more talk than it has because
clubs have always wanted this. They don't want it done
with a chain. It's ridiculous. Yeah, and with the eye tech.
(01:03:12):
I mean, you've gotta be kidding me. It's shirt anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
This will be fun to actually to if you want
it to ever, beacause the chains are actually used far
less than we think. I think people assume they're used
a ton of times on a weekend. They're actually not.
The Only issue I have with this, Adam is.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
Get it wrong. Though they get it wrong way too much.
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
How do you determine well that actually change they actually
spot the ball. It's kind of interesting now they kind
of move the ball to the nearest yard, Like if
you get a first down, you're between two yards, they
move it up a little bit to the previous yard,
or if you're like a football over, they move it back.
So they have less measurements now, right, it's the full
ten yards from ten yard to ten yards, so there's
(01:03:53):
less measurements. The thing that the question I have for you,
and maybe you have an answer for this, is how
are they going to know when someone's down to know
when to spot the ball, because that's part of the process,
or you have to know when that player is down
to know where that ball is on the field, right.
Speaker 13 (01:04:09):
And the thing is I do wonder, because we see
this in other sports, is will they use replay what's
going to happen here to make sure they get it
right in certain situations. So we don't know a lot
about it yet because the league is not sent I
know there's been some reporting on it, we have not
gotten briefed yet. The last thing we got briefed al
(01:04:30):
was the schedule and how they came up with it.
That was about two and a half weeks ago. With
Mike North from the NFL. We got a pretty good
idea of why certain team's got primetime games or not.
But we're going, I'm sure knowing the way the league
does this because they want to make sure we get
it right from the media standpoint, how they came up
with it, how that's going to be dealt with, what
has to happen for to stick. But this is something
(01:04:53):
like you can't be wrong on measurements. This is like,
this is not acceptable. I don't care if it's one
time per game or five. It's unacceptable that the amount
of mistakes have been made over the years. And this
has been long over there. We're kind of shocked that
it's taken this long.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
To be honest with you, Cap, we threw this out
there last hour. We're looking at the top five wide
receivers right now in the NFL, and we're debating is
Amana Saint Brown in the top five, and we threw
out names like Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, Jamar Chase Davante, Adams,
(01:05:26):
AJ Brown.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
C D Lamb some of those guys.
Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Do you think that Amen Ra is a bona fide
top five guy right here right now?
Speaker 13 (01:05:34):
No, But I would say my top ten and one
of the all time stories and one of the things
I love about him, and I don't think this will change.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
You know, he got his mega extension and he.
Speaker 13 (01:05:42):
Still has not forgot about the teams that passed on him,
which is pretty cool. And you know, his dad was
a bodybuilder. Comes from a very interesting family background. Been
a great story, to be honest with you. It's one
of the reasons why the Lines have turned around their
program is how well at Homes their general manager has
done in drafting. Really and quite frankly, when I got
(01:06:04):
the job, you know, he had never been their personnel director,
was the college director. Was kind of surprising. But when
you look at it, I'm on Rossling brownos terrific. He's
mostly an inside receiver, but phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Boy.
Speaker 13 (01:06:18):
If we were putting together like our top twenty, I'm
going to or top fifteen, He's somewhere between for me,
like eight and twelve. It's just a matter of what
you want in receiver. Tyreek Hill has got to be one,
two or three. It's hard to not put aj Brown
in your top three or four though that I mean,
I don't know what else. The guy's got to do.
He was in a non passing offense with Tennessee and
where they throw the ball in Philly. He's kind of unstoppable.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
No, he is.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
He's electric, man, there's no doubt about that. Well, hey, Cap,
I always appreciate your time. Man, Hope you have a
good evening. What do you have going on tonight? Your
little Timberwolves Mavericks?
Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Actually, yeah, I know.
Speaker 13 (01:06:52):
I'm so disappointed. I'm going to get that series wrong.
I cannot believe it. I'm stunned. And obviously I give
Dallas credit for that last win. Didn't see that coming.
But these playoffs has been very interesting. Denver didn't get
the job done, which stunned me.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
They didn't. They didn't close it out like I thought
they would. It's it's the NBA playoffs, man. I like
it this year.
Speaker 13 (01:07:14):
In that right when you think you know what's gonna happen,
the opposite happens, which is kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (01:07:18):
It is. Yeah, no doubt. Well, hey Cap, we'll catch
you soon, man, have a good evening you two. Thanks there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
He is Adam Kaplan FSR NFL Insider Inside the Birds Podcast.
All right, we've got kay dub with us Kevin Wirt
the goalies were not standing on their heads today.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
But we have an outcome here, Yes we do.
Speaker 9 (01:07:37):
Ryan Lindgren the hero of the game.
Speaker 10 (01:07:40):
He gives the New York Rangers the win in overtime
against the Florida Panthers five to four, nine goals of
this game, Man, I hope you had the over in
this one, five to four the final as the New
York Rangers now take a two to one lead in
this best of seven Eastern A Conference Final, or about
ninety minutes away from tipping off in the NBA Western
Conference Final Game three Timberwolves and Mavericks. Dallas is ahead
(01:08:04):
in this series two games and then tip off set
for a little after eight o'clock Eastern time. Indy five
hundred action going on right now. Scott McLaughlin in the
lead after one hundred and sixteen laps, although things look
like they're being stopped right now another crash on the course.
This race was delayed by several hours because of equipment weather.
(01:08:26):
There were thunderstorms in the area, severe thunderstorms, and eventually
they were able to get the track dried and the
race going at four forty four Eastern time. They were
hoping to get at least one hundred and one laps
in that makes the race official. And now they're at
lap one sixteen out of two hundred, Scott McLaughlin again
in the lead. They're at what they call the greatest
spectacle in racing Major League Baseball. It was an eventful
(01:08:50):
day and it was not a good event for the
Atlanta Braves.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
You could see them attending to that left naque leftne Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:08:59):
Of course, the Braves have struggled with injuries this season.
Now the Raining MVP Ronald d'acunya junior limps off gingerly
favoring that.
Speaker 10 (01:09:10):
Leplet Ronald m'cunya junior suffering a non contact injury to
his knee, that call coming courteously at bally Sports South.
So he was on the base past his knee buckle.
He was on the ground holding it in pain and
had to be helped off the field. And that very
well could be a major blow as the Braves could
be without the raining and National League MVP. As they're
(01:09:31):
looking up at the Phillies and the National LEAGUEE standings.
There's seven games behind entering today's slate of action Tigers
and Blue Jays. This game had twenty five runs combined
scored and several lead changes, and it ended up the
Tigers ended up winning it in walk off fashion.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Fair Lank swings.
Speaker 7 (01:09:48):
Sky's at Deep black Field.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
This is not coming back, Matt.
Speaker 11 (01:09:54):
Fear letting up Bob and.
Speaker 13 (01:09:56):
The Tigers walk it off for eight.
Speaker 10 (01:10:00):
Eleven final score, Matt Vierling breaking that eleven eleven high
in that bomb of the ninth to give the Tigers
the victory. The Cincinnati Raids sweep the Dodgers, winning Game
three of this series four to one in Cincinnati. Red
Sox win a Pictures duel at Fenway against the Brewers two.
Won the final there. Mariners top to Nationals in the
Nation's Capital nine to five, raised over the Royals four
(01:10:20):
to one. The Mets come from behind to beat the
Giants on an Omar Navarrees walk off hit for the Mets.
They win at four to three. Orioles and White Sox,
that game was delayed by a couple hours, but eventually
Baltimore does win at four to one. In the South Side,
Rangers and Twins, the defending champions have been having a
difficult last couple of weeks. By Corey Sieger with a
(01:10:40):
two run home run to help the Rangers beat the
Twins six to two, Rockies over the Phillies five to two,
and the Astros beat the Athletics five to two. Three
games in action right now, Padres in Yankees down at
Petco Park at San Diego, leading at five to one.
Bomb of the seventh inning, over in the desert at
the Marlins, on top of the Diamondbacks three one, Guardians
(01:11:02):
on top of the Angels five to four, bottom the
ninth over in Anaheim.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Back to you guys, all right, thank you, Kay Dub
Brian No and Jeff Schwartz with the Hero on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (01:11:13):
Brian, Yeah, can we talk about that final goal the
next I mean the next that the Rangers just scored?
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Sure, I mean how does how does he do that?
The puck is hit from like the blue line all
the way to the goal and my man just stuck
his stick out like a bunt. It just bunted the puck.
The hand eye coordination, I'm just impressed by the hand
arch gineration. It's an elite level of hand eye coordination.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Yeah, listen, man, it's uh they make it look easy,
but that's not easy hockey. I know it is it,
but that's the thing with hockey again, the most random stuff.
You'll see these goals and you're like, I, I typically
don't see goals like that or plays like that. It's
just hockey, man, That's part of the charm of it.
(01:12:02):
It's just a weird sport.
Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
And there's no way the goal we can doing about
this either. He was standing right in front of him.
I mean hit, and I mean it. It was. It
was incredible. So the Rangers go up to one.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Oh man, I had uh, I had the Stars in
game one. Jeff goes to overtime. The Stars have a shot,
They've got a four minute power play, and they have
a shot on net. The crowd goes crazy that I'm
telling you, Jeff. The crowd like literally jumped in the
air simultaneously like goal, we win, and I'm like, sweet,
(01:12:33):
I win my bet off the post?
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
No goal, Well, they had a four minute power plane
did not score.
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
Not they did not score.
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
Yeah, that's not ideal.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
No, it's not hit.
Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
They hit the post twice, So it worked out hit
the post twice, yeah, not good.
Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
At least I did and miss another three.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
Yes, freaking Sam Hauser man, Sam Houser, gonna hit a
three in the series that I only have one more
game left.
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
I'm gonna bet on again tomorrow. I might do. I
might do like an alt like a plus four, like
if it hit four plus, just like he has a
night where he he shoots over forty from three, like
he's got to make some of these at some point, right, Yeah,
I'll probably fade Horford and I'll probably go heavy on Houser.
I did, like I faded Nasri tonight. He had seven
(01:13:23):
threes last game. He's not gonna under eleven and a half.
I just don't see him. And they're on the road.
I mean, typically the bench players play not as well
on the road as they do it at home. Even
though think in Minnesota we both agree wins.
Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
Tonight, Yeah, I think they do. I do well.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
We'll compare notes next hour as far as that matchup, right,
because we're counting down to tip off, if you will,
it's what just a little bit over an hour away,
So we'll definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
If you're an eight thirty eastern tonight, well.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
A little more than an hour.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
It's why why why not eight? Why not seven? Sid
had been nice for some of us.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
I know it's a little bit two prime time right there. Okay,
so eight your type seven Central, Yeah, a little more
than an hour away. Yeah, we'll compare notes. How about
this coming up next? Do you like the way the
game is officiated?
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
Simple question, we'll chop that up. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm
Brian No. We're live from the Tirec dot Com studios
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No. So simple question, Jeff.
Do you like the way the n b A is officiated?
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
So a couple of things here.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
First things first, very physical play and the refs man
ever since the All Star break.
Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
I don't know if it was directly because.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Of the All Star Game and there's just literally no
offense whatsoever, but it changed and it's gotta be significant
contact for the officials to call fouls. And you go
back to last night's game, the Celtics pulled out Game three.
Drew Holliday had a great defensive stop. He stole the
(01:15:12):
ball from Andrew Nemhard and the Pacers head coach Rick
Carlisle he was very unhappy there was not a foul called.
This is what he had to say after the game.
Speaker 5 (01:15:22):
So I just watched the ending, so you don't need
to remind me. I saw everything that happened. Everything, what's
you was it?
Speaker 4 (01:15:26):
Everything?
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
Everything, everything that happened. Yeah, okay, so unhappy.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
The coach again, spicy Mike Malone. The other day, I
saw Carlisle say and everything. They're like, hey, you blew
an eight point lead. He goes, I know I was there.
You don't remind me something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
But man, a lot of these coaches, they have a
huge problem with the way the game is officiated. It's
so much different the way the season began, Jeff to
where it is right now, and the way it's officiated.
You got a clopper, a guy to be called for
a foul more times than not.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
I don't mind it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
I don't mind the physical play not being just the
touch files left and right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
I actually liked that style better.
Speaker 4 (01:16:10):
I mean, last night there was some wild like back
and forth because their players look like everyone got fouled. Look, Brian,
I think all of us want consistency from our umpires.
So if you're going to have a game where you
call it more physical than fine, do it all game right.
(01:16:33):
Or if you're gonna have a game where you let
when you let it go, let it go all game.
The hard part of the NBA is I just think
every game is sort of officiated a little differently. There's
no set rule, right. I think if you look at
sort of the human nature of refereeing, you know if
one night a team has a bunch of foul shots
and one team does it the next game, that it
sort of evens out. But that feels like a natural
(01:16:56):
human thing, like you see the box score. You talk
to the coaches and they complain about something, the next night,
they'll be called differently. Right by this thing in game?
You want consistency, Brian, That's what I want. That's what
you want. And that's all I asked the referees to
be is consistent. If you call it the beginning and
(01:17:16):
called the end of the game, don't just let it
go because of the time of the game or anything like.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
That, right, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
And that's the thing is as a player, you just
have to adjust and you're hoping that the officiating is
consistent where hey, okay, I gotta get clobbered. I gotta
clabber the guy over the head, and that's a foul okay, right.
Speaker 4 (01:17:37):
But yeah, because it was a foul last night, I.
Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
Don't think it was.
Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
I think it was too But and the other part
of this is it's becoming a lot more like college.
They're just not giving you continuation. They're not giving you
and ones. Where it used to be in the NBA,
if you're driving down the lane right and and you
get contacted, as long as you don't dribble the ball,
(01:18:03):
they would give you continuation all day.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Yeah, and they don't now, like you have to.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
Be in your shooting motion when you get fouled for
them to count the basket and give you a free throw.
I like the way it used to be. I don't
prefer this way because it's too much like college. I
liked it the old way.
Speaker 4 (01:18:22):
I still think it's sometimes they give continuation away too much,
but I haven't noticed it to be, to be honest
with you, as far as whether or not they're allowing
it to happen. There are times I think to myself, like,
there's no way that that should be even a shot.
I like the officials. The thing I do like the
most them not awarding flopping sort of right. And I
(01:18:44):
also think that look Jalen Brunson for the Knicks is
like the best episcent at this at least in the playoffs.
Were like he is, and he is trying to get
fouled as he shoots in the lane that thing where
he does where he sort of yeah, he has the
guy in his back hip and he sort of backs
into him as he shoots. I hate that as a fan.
I hate it now within it's a smart move. It's
a three point play, right, He's able to try to
(01:19:05):
get himself an extra point every time he does this.
I can't stand it. Dude. It's a personal preference about it.
Doesn't mean I don't want Jalen Brunson, but sort of
searching out contact as a strategy as you shoot, to me,
it's part of the game. It's a good part of
the game. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. I
personally don't like to watch it like that.
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Well, I do know something you do like which was
Indiana's final play last night, So we only had what
a little under two seconds to go. Yeah, when they
inbounded the ball and it was a football like play
and I forgot which end of the court they were
going toward, right, like they're inbounding the ball, everybody is
(01:19:46):
on the opposite end of the court, and they run
what looked like a football play.
Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
And this was Carlisle after the game. Check this out your.
Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
Last play where the guys lined up like wide receivers
and ran down the floor.
Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
Where where did you find that one?
Speaker 5 (01:20:02):
I mean we've had it for a while, you know.
I mean it was just a handy hand to our playbook.
So'd you want?
Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
And then he explained the play where it came from.
And they have different variations.
Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
But man, clean, look, you're real good.
Speaker 4 (01:20:20):
You got a really good look. I mean that's that
would have been Halliburton right a in a in a
if he was healthy. But you have Anie Smith sort
of fall away three. That's probably not do you want
to go in very often? And it was close. They'll
tell you that good.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
Shot, really close, really good play. All right?
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
Coming up next the criticism? Does it exist? Or are
we making things up? So there is criticism there, there
isn't criticism.
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
It is very confusing.
Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
We will sort it all out here in just a minute.
We are broadcasting live from the tire rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
Tire rack dot Com.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
We'll help get you there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers
tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
All right, Jeff, So we've covered a lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Ground, right, NFL, NBA, MLB, A lot of stuff going
on here, right, yeah, let's get the WNBA into the mix.
Also in the NHL playoffs, right yeah, So we've covered
a lot of ground. So I'm confused here, all right.
So it seemed to be that there was a lot
(01:21:29):
of criticism aimed in the direction of Caitlin Clark. But
now things are shifting where there are coaches, players talking
heads that are saying whoa whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. These
WNBA players, they're just competitors. They're not excessively criticizing Caitlin Clark.
(01:21:50):
They just want to beat her. So where do you
think things stand? Has she not gotten criticized? I would
say she has, but it's just being chalked up to
and we want a beater, so it's all good. I
don't know exactly where things stand. Where do you stand
on all this and things standing?
Speaker 4 (01:22:09):
And just look, I think that there are certainly older
players who are rooting against the success of Kaitlin Clark.
It's very much like a quote unquote old head thing,
right where you know a lot of older players don't
want to give young players credit till they've earned the
respect in their minds. Right, It's not it's not abnormal
(01:22:30):
for sports, it's just abnormal. I think when Caitlin Clark
has already benefited them personally with the Charter planes, right,
with being able to play. I believe this. I was
told this, and I think it's correct that the Sparks
(01:22:51):
Fever game. So the Los Angeles Sparks play at Staple Center,
but I don't even know what it's called that oracle,
whatever it's called. I don't know what it's called anymore.
What it used to be a Staple Center, right, Crypto arena,
whatever it's called. Now, they had a higher attendance than
any Laker game this season when the Sparks and Fever
just played. They're moving, you know, Las Vegas Aces games
(01:23:13):
they played yesterday right to the T Mobile Center where
they play night's game, instead of playing at the arena
they normally play at. So she's already benefiting the players
by not specially putting money in their pockets now, but
there's a new CBA coming up soon. They will certainly
benefit from having more revenue this season. And I don't
(01:23:34):
think people are wanting these veteran players to go out
of their way to be nice and say nice things
about her. I just think it's odd how they're taking
shots at her for for really no reasons. Kmlin Clark
has done nothing to warrant it. She's not a cocky player.
I mean, she might think she's good on the court,
which I think you should think that, Brian, but she's
not out here like bad mouthing the WNBA players, the
(01:23:55):
current players. I mean, she's just going about her business,
doing her job. And then I think, you know the
other part of this discussion happens to be that, you know,
there's just you know, race comes into this a little
bit with some of the commentary that we've we've heard,
and that always complicates any discussion, right, I don't think
it's about that, but some people believe it's about that,
(01:24:17):
and that just makes the discussion I think even more
even more complicated.
Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
Well, this is something that Lebron said. This was on
his Mind the Game podcast with JJ Reddick. Mind the
Game show if you will. And he said about Caitlin Clark,
for her individually, I don't think she should get involved
in what's being said.
Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
Just go have fun, enjoy.
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
I'm rooting for Caitlin because I've been there in that
seat before, I've walked that road before. I hope she
kills Okay. So that's what Lebron says about the whole thing.
So like he's reacting to the criticism, He's not just
making up something that isn't there. There is a lot
of noise, there is a lot of criticism, and it's
(01:25:01):
strange to me that some in the WNBA they're chalking
it up to oh no, no, no, we're not criticizing.
We just we just want to beat her. It's healthy competition.
Sometimes it goes a bit beyond that.
Speaker 4 (01:25:14):
I also think part of this from the older players is,
you know, they believe for a long time that there
should be there shouldn't have been, should be more attention
brought to their game in previous seasons. Right, there are
some fabulous players in WNBA, and the league has not
(01:25:35):
gone the attention that they believe they deserve. And now
all of a sudden, you're getting the attention because of
one rookie who hasn't proven herself in this specific league
yet yet. Yeah, she has proven herself as a college
basketball player, she's never one pick in the draft. She
has proven herself on that level. But again, didn't win
a championship though, right, So, I mean that's that's just
(01:25:55):
just didn't happen. Not not her follower team, just like
this ACIS team is. I mean, the Fever teams not good.
The Fever team is just not good around her. I mean,
the coach is not great. It's gonna everyone's gonna be fired.
They're gonna maybe draft to Pagebeckers, which will be incredible
with her and can't go together. There's a lot of it,
just that the you know, the old heads, I think
just are a little bit upset that they had not
(01:26:18):
gone the attention they think they deserve, and here comes
this rookie who hasn't done anything yet, and all of
a sudden, she's getting the attention and I'm not getting it.
I've put in the work. I'm a ten year veteran,
I've done my duty to support the league, and now
this rookie is getting the attention I'm not. I think
Brian plays a role in it as well.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Yeah, no, I'm with you, And I think that explains
some of the critical comments Cheryl Swoops had.
Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
This is months ago she appeared on a show and.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
She said things that were completely wrong, not even true,
where she's like, she's she had an extra COVID year,
she's taken all these shots, that's why she has all
these points, and it's like none of those were true.
And I think it's tied to what you were saying
right there. If you can look me in the face
(01:27:07):
and say, none of these WNBA players present or past
have any resentment toward Caitlin Clark. There's not a hint
of why is she getting this attention? Why is she
getting this shine? And either my team or myself is
not You don't think there's any bit of that involved
(01:27:29):
in this little gumbo of criticism.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Of course, there.
Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
Is so this idea that, oh, no, it's just healthy competition.
You don't have a problem with it when it comes
to the men. Why do you have a problem with
it with the women. That's not what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
No, it's not. It's everything we said it is. And
I'll tell you what, man, I probably watch a little
bit of WNBA playoffs. I pay attention to Sabrina Escu's
career just because the organ connection, and you know she
did for Oregon, and I know her husband a little
bit Raiders center there form and play an organ as well.
(01:28:07):
But I look, I'm not watching a lot of wa
do in the regular season. I'm watching Kaylin Clark play
most nights. Now, I you know, like I I'm maybe,
I'm maybe I'm the I'm the people that that the
players don't like that's watching the sport now like I
didn't watch for them, but I'm watching for Kaylin Clark.
And again, she's not playing well, So I'll take that back.
She's not playing to the standard I think that we
(01:28:28):
thought she might be. But again, actually this is not
that surprising because a lot of rookies struggle in every
sport in their first year. She's not a bad basketball
team her call. She's just ended a month ago, not
really a month ago, but they started a month after
her season ended, and she's got a bad coach of
bad teammates, and so yeah, she's struggling. And guess what, Brian,
I've been profitings that've taken her under every night. So
it's been good for business.
Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
For me.
Speaker 4 (01:28:50):
So these are all the reasons why the the you know,
the kind of the the haterrad is out for her.
I think it will it will lessen over the years.
I don't quite understand the race component of this. I mean,
I trust I get the argument. I've read it, I've
listened to it. I don't know why that really matters
in this instance.
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
What is it just like this is the great white
Hope type thing? Is that?
Speaker 1 (01:29:13):
I mean?
Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
I saw Becky Hammond discuss about how you know that
that player is before her that are are are not
white weren't discussed in the way that she's been discussed,
and she's right, But that's just the effect of Caitlyn Clark.
I mean that, I don't know why that's a race thing.
I mean, Katelyn Clark is who she is. She's a
(01:29:37):
generational talent. She came an era of college basketball. I've
talked to this before. I think it's important to session
an era of nil when she was allowed to do
commercials and be more marketable than any superstar in that
sport has ever been right because that wasn't allowed to
college for so many years, and she just happens to
be white. That just happens to be the case. And
(01:30:00):
so again I think it comes back listening to Becky
Hammond talk other players. It comes back to the idea
that basically, you know, the players have been upset that
they they right or wrong, haven't gone the seine. They
expect that they should get Brian and Kyln Carter's gone
without earning.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
It, right.
Speaker 2 (01:30:18):
Well, Hey, the first thing I would say is if
you compare Caitlin to a past WNBA player, a star
that happened to be white, It's like the style of
the game matters, right, Like Caitlyn Clark in college, she
was shooting logo threes and doing all this crazy, this
(01:30:38):
like pistol Pete Maravich type stuff in the women's game.
You know, like that's going to translate to stardom. So
I don't understand this argument of well, hey, why wasn't
this other girl a star?
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
I don't know what to tell you. I just know that.
Speaker 4 (01:30:55):
But Brian, sometimes in life there's there's a moment in
time you have to take advantage of. Yeah, and Kaylen
Clark came about at the right moment to take advantages
It was.
Speaker 3 (01:31:09):
The perfect moment.
Speaker 4 (01:31:10):
Yeah, for one, For one, women's sports are more popular
now than ever before, whether it's w n b A,
whether it's college softball what's on right now, whether it's
Olympic sports, which we'll see with the Olympics coming up
this summer. It's this summer, right, the Olympics. I think
this summer, we've seen uh, the you know, the imports,
(01:31:30):
college basketball, We've seen the rise in attention towards women's sports.
So this is happening right now. As I mentioned before,
nav evenge like this, you know, for for those who
don't know, that is basically college players are allowed to
market themselves now and that wasn't allowed even three years ago. Brian,
So if you're a good basketball player, you weren't allowed
(01:31:50):
to be on national commercials. You were if you didn't
get paid, who's going to do that? You weren't allowed
to do all this, all this other these other things,
these other opportun us, right that wasn't allowed. We we
even see you know, women's players all all all sorts
of marketing and things that weren't allowed years ago, right,
and a lot of them were killing it doing it right.
(01:32:11):
And so Cayler Clark came about this time where all
these things happened at once. And then to your point,
she put together a basketball game that's really fun to watch, yeh,
A bunch of threes, a bunch of great passes, up tempo, fast,
and it all came together at once. And so that
doesn't it doesn't mean anything more than it is right now, right,
(01:32:32):
which is it came together at the moment, and camer
Clark was right for the moment, and that's all this is.
There's nothing more, nothing less. She came about the right
moment and looked just like I'd argue that Steph Curry
came about at the right moment. Lebron came about right
sort of the end of you know, we're kind of
we need a superstar, right, we need that that superstar guy.
Here's Lebron ready to fill that role. I think, even
(01:32:54):
right now, to move forward, we're sort of in that
spot in the NBA, we're like, who's next. Here comes
Anthony Edward right in the moments, right, And so I
think that there's nothing more than that. It's not deeper
than Kaitlyn Clark came about the right moment, and the WNBA,
her league, her teammates, herself are using this to me
(01:33:17):
they're doing a great job maximizing it, right, Like they're.
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
Maximizing their opportunity on a national team.
Speaker 4 (01:33:22):
It's going to pay off in the end when your
CBA comes due in a couple of years and you
get a five hundred percent raise because of all the
attention to your league.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
Well, I don't know why, Listen.
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
I know you're a competitor, you want to beat her,
but I don't know why you wouldn't embrace the star
power instead of trying to fight against it. It doesn't
make any sense to me to say, hey, well what
about this player in the early two thousands or this
player in twenty ten. She should have been a start.
It's like, Okay, I don't know. I don't know what
to tell you, but the here and now is easily explained.
(01:33:56):
Why Caitlin Clark is a big name, why she's in
a Why would you rage against that. It's a little
bit like this, Jeff. If you think about voting when
it comes to awards, right, you could either use the
Baseball Hall of Fame where they're like, oh, we've never
had a unanimous selection. It's like, this dude could not
(01:34:16):
be more decorated. How could you not vote for him
as a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (01:34:21):
You know what I mean, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
If a player from yesteryear wasn't that guy or so silly. Right,
Remember when Steph Curry was unanimous MVP, it was like, well,
this is the first time Jordan wasn't one. It's like,
he averaged thirty points on a team that won seventy
three games.
Speaker 3 (01:34:41):
He was so clearly the MVP.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
It makes no sense to rage against that just because
it didn't happen beforehand.
Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
And that's what I feel like with Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 2 (01:34:53):
Why would you hold on to well, this other girl
should have been a star years ago, so that's a
legitimate reason to hate on k That's just dumb.
Speaker 4 (01:35:02):
Yeah, you're logic, It makes total sense about why it
doesn't it doesn't make sense. I think what' we're talking about.
I think it just comes down to, again the idea
that a lot of athletes feel, that pro athletes feel
that you have to sort of earn the right in
(01:35:24):
the professional league to be talked about the way Canlen
Clark has talked about, and they have a hard time
when people get attention. Look, there's other examples, by the way,
I think a lot of people have trouble with Dion
Santa's getting attention in Colorado. We're winning four games.
Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
Certainly coaches look at that.
Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
Remember the survive in Advance thirty for thirty Yes with
NC State, when jim Valvano got into the ACC coach
k was like, there were a lot of coaches that
were hating on Jimmy v because he was getting all
this attention. He had this person finality and everybody kind
of flock through him, and these coaches are like, what
(01:36:03):
is he done?
Speaker 3 (01:36:04):
And you're right that there are a lot of coaches
that look at the un that way.
Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
And I think and one part of this kind her
question that is interesting to me is again it's it's
legitimate to say she will have trouble as a rookie
adjusting to the game and playing the same level she
did Iowa. That's a total legitimate thing. Again, I follow
(01:36:30):
again Suprenoran Nescue. She struggled as a rookie too, and
she was Caitlin Clark during four years ago during COVID. Unfortunately,
right like she was the superstar of of college basketball.
Just they ran up into COVID and she couldn't finish
out her final season there, final tournament at organ and
she struggles a rookie and got better. So saying that
(01:36:52):
it is totally enormal, not normal thing, but a point
that is very valid, but it was wrapped around sort
of this hater ade too, like that from from the players,
where I think if Dania Trozzi just said, you know what,
I think she struggles a rookie, but I have high
hopes that she'll improve as a rookie. Yeah, done, Like
that's it, because look, I think the Christians are very valid.
(01:37:14):
She's not a great what's the right word to say,
Like creator is the wrong word, but she's not as
she's not as good of a creator with the ball,
I think as in the wa she is in college basketball,
the game is just quicker, right, She's definitely not strong enough.
You can get stronger, Like there are legitimate concerns. I
think the turn out stuff is kind of silly because
(01:37:34):
her teams can't catch the basketball. It's not her fault.
But like there's legitimate things you can talk about her game,
but it's so weighed down by this idea that again,
this hater aide that we can't have all discussion about
that she's not as good as she was. Iowa, duh
was eight points last night, and that that's life is
(01:37:54):
a rookie.
Speaker 3 (01:37:55):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Last thing I'll say real fast, Jeff is remember early
in Russell Wilson's career with the Seahawks, and I know
he's not your favorite guy, but hear me out on
this one right where his own teammates were looking at
him sideways like why is this guy getting these endorsement deals?
And right like those were his teammates that looked at
(01:38:20):
him that way. So this idea that players from opposite teams,
it's just healthy competition, right, And it's not any sort
of jealousy or like you said, hater rade whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
It's just silly, man. It does exist. I would just.
Speaker 2 (01:38:36):
Wish they would own it, you know what I mean,
if I'd have more respect for if you if you
came straight out and said I think it's too much
hype and not enough substance. There I said it, I'd
rather you owned it instead of trying to move the
goalposts and say, oh no, not us hatred, no, never
come on man.
Speaker 4 (01:38:57):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. Man, I watch watch your play.
I'm not watching other others play now. Of course, I've
enjoyed watching some of the teams they've played. Again, I
watched the Liberty when they play Liberty. But I'm watching
more of the you know of them than I I
think I have in the past. So she moves, man.
Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
She definitely does.
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
All right, Coming up next, Must watch TV and Hate
watch TV.
Speaker 3 (01:39:21):
We'll explain. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian Know.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
We're live from the Tirack dot Com studios here on
Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz.
I'm Brian Know. We're live from the Tirerack dot Com studios.
Speaker 4 (01:39:36):
Jeez, Brian, what.
Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Are you looking at me for?
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
You know, we got Mary mac technical producer, he shordinaire here.
Speaker 3 (01:39:44):
Why why do you think this is my doing?
Speaker 4 (01:39:46):
I mean I was asked if if I want any
any music, and I should have said, don't, don't let
Brian choose.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
I always ask my defense, don't.
Speaker 4 (01:39:57):
Don't let Brian No. I know, I know, I know
you asked both of us. I'm I'm not offended you
asked me. I mean I would have yeah, you know,
I just I thought that maybe I just should have
said to you, no, no, Brian music.
Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
No Brian music. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:09):
We could not have two different tastes on music but
have the same gambling taste.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
It's pretty that's funny, right, Yeah. I feel like this, Jeff.
I feel like I would be more into your music
then you would be into my music. I think it's
pretty fair to say.
Speaker 4 (01:40:26):
Yeah, I have a Yes, I like a prothor of music,
but I would I don't think there's any way I
could get into because I can't do it. And you're
like the nicest guy too, and you listen to music
just about like raging and bludgeting people and just everything.
Like you'd be like, oh, yeah, I remember a buddy
of mine in college, like the same music that you like.
(01:40:48):
And he he's my size. He's six six, three thirty,
my roommate in freshman year, a great guy, and he
he used to like go in the mosh pits. I'd
be like, how do you how do you do that?
You just told me how to do And I was like, oh, buddy, wow,
I mean you're a large human. Luck anyone in the
moshpit with you.
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
No doubt. That's that's a crazy world right there, Jeff.
You could do some damage in a mosh pit. But
I'll tell you what, man, you don't have UFC rules,
you know what I mean. It is literally no holds
barred you just he.
Speaker 4 (01:41:18):
Just told me, like you run with your elbows up basically,
just like freak.
Speaker 2 (01:41:22):
Do something that's dumb, that's highly encouraged. Just start waving
your elbows around, just start kicking at the air. And
if someone should run into that general direction, well too bad.
I guess they get kicked.
Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
It's crazy. Do you wash?
Speaker 4 (01:41:37):
Ran?
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
I have, I've I've dabbled in washing, but it's a
it's a crazy it's a crazy scene, you know, but
I definitely I have before. I'm more of I like
crowdsurfing more than washing, truth be told. I know that's
a very alternative rock statement to make, but it's way
better than washing.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
It just is Brian tak an elbow to the face
minus three hundred in the wash pits.
Speaker 2 (01:42:00):
It's like it's a wild scene, man, it just is
over there. But hey, we got to get to Must
Watch TV and Hate Watch TV right around the corner
first though, Kevin Wyirt, Now I've heard Jeff. I don't
know if this is just a rumor, but I've heard
that he's likely to throw elbows in the moshpit as well.
Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
Do we have that right? K dub.
Speaker 10 (01:42:24):
Moshpit Always I'm throwing elbows around. I gotta protect myself
because people will throw elbows at you if you're not
throwing elbows at them. It's kind of a doggy dog
world down in the mock now. I guess it depends
if you're in a metal moshpit or a punk mosh pit,
because punk moshpits are what I'm used to, and there
are people who don't really seem to care about running
to other people, and you got to kind of keep
(01:42:44):
your arms and elbows up to protect yourself.
Speaker 4 (01:42:47):
You know, I.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
Have even more respect for Kevin Wyert after he said that, Jeff,
he's more in the punk rock washing area of expertise.
Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
That's pretty awesome right there.
Speaker 10 (01:43:00):
I was friends with a punk band back in high
school early college, so I kind of I got to
a few shows and got to experience it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Well, very nice man. Well, now that you're here, if
you would spin us around the sporting game, yes we can.
We can do that.
Speaker 10 (01:43:13):
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Eastern Conference Funds. This was an
outstanding hockey game nine goals scored between the Rangers and
the Florida Panthers. Sixty minutes was not enough to decide
this one, as these teams trying to break a one
to one series tie, and in the first overtime period
it was Ryan Lindgren getting the game winning goal for
(01:43:33):
the Rangers, cool a.
Speaker 4 (01:43:35):
Clap pass it up the near wall.
Speaker 3 (01:43:36):
But the Rangers have augustuson was.
Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
Like heaven, they may I was off to something in front.
Speaker 3 (01:43:42):
Put the Rangers.
Speaker 13 (01:43:42):
Scoring over time and they take a two to one
series lead.
Speaker 10 (01:43:46):
With a five to four win Rangers Radio Network, they're
very self explanatory as the Rangers take down the Panthers
in Sunrise five to four, so they're now ahead in
this best of seven series two games to one. In
the NBA playoffs, were a little over half an hour
away from tipping off Game three of the Western Conference
Finals between the Timberwolves and Mavericks. As Minnesota trying to
(01:44:08):
get on the win call him in this series or
else a Navericks will go up in a go up
three to nothing in a situation that has not been
seen before in a team by the NBA, one in
which they've come back from behind three games to nine. Anyway,
in Major League Baseball, we had a major development Ronald
Acunya Junior hurting his knee on a non contact play
(01:44:32):
running the bases. He went between first and second, his
knee buckled, he went to the ground, he was grabbing
it in pain, then had to walk off of the field.
And that very well could be a major blow for
the Atlanta Braves. They're trying to catch the Philadelphia Phillies
in the NL standings. Philadelphia entering the day with a
seven game lead over Atlanta, and they very well could
(01:44:53):
be without the reigning National League MVP for quite a while.
That injury did not look good or elsewhere in Major
League Cubs and Cardinals, they're trying to get started in
the Sunday night game in Saint Louis, but they have
a rain delay going on. It's the same weather system
that's affected a couple of baseball games the Indianapolis five hundred.
There's been a crazy weather there over in the Midwest.
Cubs Cardinals has been delayed. Everything else has gone final.
(01:45:16):
Tigers winning a walk off over the Blue Jays fourteen
to eleven. Braves for all the trouble they encountered today
with Ronald Couter Junior going down. They did win the
game against the Pirates eight to one, but small consolation
for them. Red Sox win a Pictures duel against the
Brewers two to one, Mariners over the Nationals nine to five,
Rays beat the Royals four to one. Mets with a
big comfort behind victory against the Giants four to three.
(01:45:38):
Orioles top the White Sox four to one. That game
was started a couple hours late because of rain, but
eventually they do finish it and the Orioles win it. Rangers,
they've had a couple of difficult weeks lately, but they
do get a do get help from Corey Seger a
two run home run for Texas as he helps lift
the Rangers over the Twins six to two. Rockies over
the Phillies five to two. Up in the Mile High
(01:45:59):
Sex Any Guardians hold off the Angels five to four
over in Anaheim, Astros beat the Athletics five to two,
Marlin's three to one over the Diamondbacks out in the Desert,
Padres beat the Yankees five to two. Down in San Diego,
the Indy five hundred the greatest spectacle in racing this
Gate where this race was delayed by several hours again
because of that inclement weather that was occurring in the
(01:46:20):
Midwest all morning and into the afternoon. They got the
race started at four forty four Eastern time, and now
they have.
Speaker 3 (01:46:27):
Just fifteen laps.
Speaker 10 (01:46:28):
Ago they were hoping again at least one hundred and
one of the two hundred laps in to make it official,
but now they just got fifteen to go, one hundred
and eighty five laps in it to this race. And
right now in the lead, it's Kaifen Simpson who is
currently leading. He is from Australia in the number one
spot with fifteen laps to go. Back to you guys,
good on you.
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
That's my new favorite Aussie expression there, Jeff, I'm just
gonna incorporate it in my You know.
Speaker 4 (01:46:54):
Your guy New Gardens, right, I mean he's there right there.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Yeah, Jeen's got a tablin, is that right?
Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
The guy in first place got a pit so yeah
yeah yeah, So New Garden will be right there.
Speaker 3 (01:47:07):
We got a fifteen lap. Sprint down the stretch, Get
down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
Shout out to my guy, the big man e from
salam He's coming up next. Top of the hour, former
offensive lineman, just like you, Jeff Schwartz, and he heard
our metal conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:47:23):
He just texted me Mega Death.
Speaker 4 (01:47:28):
The band.
Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Yeah, well that's one of the bands that's a metal band.
And I said, we gotta get you in a mosh pit, man,
you do some damage over.
Speaker 3 (01:47:35):
We would kill absolutely everybody in a he would and
he's holding that back.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
Mary.
Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
I feel like that's a disservice to moshpits. How could
you as someone that can do damage just withholding your power.
That would be like one of these superheroes saying no, no,
I don't feel like saving the world right now.
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
What good will it bring? Method like murder, what ury metals?
You know, it's mayhem, you know it's what it would bring.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
Uh, Jeff, let me throw this at you because Aaron
Rodgers he said something, sir, that's very well known quarterback
for the New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:48:12):
I thought he was the vice presidential candidate.
Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
That was, by the way, the dumbest waste of time
ever where it was. He even said it this week, Jeff.
He's like, it was either quit playing football to do
that or play football full time. It's people acted like
he was gonna do a two to one combo. That
was ridiculous. But this is what Rogers said. So a
(01:48:37):
lot of primetime games for the Jets, six of them
in the first eleven weeks, and he said, we are
must watch TV. Whether you love me or hate me,
people want to see me play. He's completely correct about that.
But this is what it made me think of. Let's
start with must must watch TV. Yeah, if you're looking
at either players or teams just the NFL, who would
(01:49:01):
be on your must watch list? I know you're a
maniac like I am, and you're watching all this NFL stuff. Yeah,
but if it was just one of these, it's week five,
you have to pick, like who are you watching? Who's
the team, who's the player, who's the highest on your list?
Speaker 4 (01:49:18):
Well, with the thing the Chiefs out of this, essentially
you don't have to I mean the Chiefs would be one.
I think it's all about quarterbacks, right, so you want
to watch and sometimes by the way, like Kyler Murray
is a super fun watch, Like the Arizona Cardinals just
every week it's like you just there's just a lot
happening in their games. Yeah, he's again in the way
(01:49:39):
he plays, it's a fun watch. But I think to
me almost like Josh Allen is number one for me, okay,
because there is some of that variance with his game,
right where like you get the incredible throw and like
the oh my god, what are you doing play?
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
I think there's a lot Lamar the boring.
Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:50:00):
Yeah, Like Mahomes, especially now, you're like, just get me
to the postseason, like you know, like none of it matters.
Anyone in the regular season forgets the city and there
are games where you know, you just clearly the Chiefs
are not as motivated as they need to be. Yeah,
Buffalo to me and Josh Allen every week is a
roller coaster. Lamar is that way for sure. Herbert's a
(01:50:23):
little bit like that where he is, you know, sort
of gotta watch it because there's a lot to go
off the rails there with the Chargers all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
They even have a catchphrase, the Josh Allen experience, you know,
because oh yeah, it's like that.
Speaker 3 (01:50:37):
Lamar.
Speaker 2 (01:50:38):
Definitely, I like that, Like is there something to be
said about the variance and that leading to a lot
more entertainment value. Where as a guy, I would argue,
and I know you would too. Mahomes is a fun
watch because he's so creative, but he's a lot steadier
than some of those other guys. And when you don't
(01:50:59):
get that same variance, that can I think hurt the
entertainment value a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:51:04):
Right, Well, mahomes now especially is a lot of just
like I'll take the four yard pass, you know, like
I'm good with that. Yeah, you know there's a thrower
to a game that really you're like, oh wow, no, look,
there is a we've talked about this. I like the DVOA, right,
A good good stat to use for efficiency. Aaron Shafts developed,
(01:51:27):
It's it's great, it's universally used. And part of the
rankings is variants. They ranked the variance of your team,
which basically means, again like how closely do you play
to yourself every week, every play, every game. And Buffalo's
offense is like always first and variance because Josh Allen,
because there are times when he throws four hundred yards
(01:51:50):
and four touchdowns. There are times he throws one twenty
and three interceptions and you're like, what what is this?
What do you do with Josh? I think it's east
corrected a lot of that recently, Right, we've seen less
and less of that, but there's that opportunity with him
to just have some wild things happen. And that's what
(01:52:11):
I think they're I think that would be the most
fun watch right now. I think that C. J. Strauss
getting the point where it's sort of a must watch
the way that that team plays, which is a really
you know, great, great tribute to him. Are the Lions
up there for you?
Speaker 3 (01:52:27):
I love watching the Lions play, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:52:29):
I think because of their aggressiveness, right, Like Dan Campbell
is always pushing the limit, and that to me is
fun to watch, right, like a team that is always
playing to win, a lot of times teams play not
to lose. The Lions play to win, Brian, like they
play the game to win the football game.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
They're a little bit this is a different sport, but
they're basically the anti Boston Celtics, you know, where they
do not fall asleep, They are not laxed.
Speaker 4 (01:52:57):
Up seven with five minutes of this walking up the
court and just they just stand all five guys outside
the three point line, Like can you just skip twenty
four seconds for the bad shot and just give the
ball back to the pacers?
Speaker 11 (01:53:10):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
How about hate watching Okay, like Aaron Rodgers said, whether
you love me or hate me, people want to see
me play.
Speaker 4 (01:53:18):
I don't. I don't have time to hate watch anybody.
Speaker 3 (01:53:20):
Okay, not necessarily your own list. Okay, Oh, number one, number.
Speaker 4 (01:53:25):
One, all Kansas City is number one. I think people
want to hate watch Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:53:30):
Do you think that Casey has surpassed the Cowboys? Are
they the most watch.
Speaker 4 (01:53:37):
I don't know if hate watch are writing for the Cowboys?
I think people I think people want to watch, yeah,
probably to see him get embarrassed. Yeah, Cowboys, Yeah, Cowboys won.
Chiefs are up there now when you win, people want
to do that, right.
Speaker 3 (01:53:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:53:52):
I think Tom Brady was probably the best example of
the recent memory.
Speaker 3 (01:53:54):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:53:54):
People hate watching Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
No doubt. I think I think Taylor Swift helps.
Speaker 4 (01:54:02):
Shirt some hate watching there. I will like hate stock
social media accounts, but I don't have time to hate
to like hate watch sports. I think in college football,
Colorado is certainly up there for teams. People name's up
there in a big game, right, in a big game,
maybe Ohio State sometimes, probably not as much as Notre
(01:54:25):
Dame that I think it's definitely Colorado and Dianna's number one.
I think I would think all football in Colorado and
Deanna that we number won this year for hate watching. Yea,
but yes, when they measure the people that watch Brian,
it's not broken down they hate watchers.
Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
It's just one big number all ratings. Baby, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
I think if Harbaugh, if he was back at Michigan,
that would have helped the hate watch factor.
Speaker 4 (01:54:48):
Oh yeah, yeah, this would be a lot of apathy
with Michigan games. I feel like this year, I don't.
I don't think they're going to have the same look.
Youre Notre Dame guy, Dude. Do people hate watch the
Irish still?
Speaker 2 (01:54:57):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (01:54:58):
In big games they do, right, Not not like in
a not against Purdue, right, but yeah they hate watch
them play.
Speaker 2 (01:55:06):
Oh, no doubt about it, No doubt there's still Hey,
let's I get it, man, I get the people that
hate Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Those are the dumb people. We called it, Jeff, I did.
Speaker 4 (01:55:16):
I was on a different radio program this morning on
College Sports Radio and Serrus XM, and we did a
list of top five teams or coaches in college football
most needing to be a playoff team this year. I
think we both agreed. Notre Dame is like number five
on that list? Are they? Are they team that has
to be in a playoff team this season?
Speaker 2 (01:55:35):
Yeah, when you've expanded it to twelve. Yeah, and in
the schedule that they have, their schedule is pretty soft.
Speaker 4 (01:55:41):
It's very very uh so setting up to be a
five seed and lose to like Boise States in the firste.
Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
I hope that's not the case, but yeah it's uh
I hope Marcus Freeman can get it done. You know me,
I'm from South Bend, so I bleed Notre Dame football.
But this slate tell me if this skill is you.
They got a couple of decent opponents, but so Texas
A and M, Northern Illinois, Perdue, Miami of Ohio, Louisville, Stanford,
(01:56:10):
Georgia Tech, Navy, Florida State, Virginia Army, USC. Jeez, the
tough games are at USC, Florida State at Texas A
and M.
Speaker 4 (01:56:24):
Yeah, but A and M has a brand new coach, right,
that's week one, brand new coach. Florida State has a
bunch of guys one in the NFL. I'm not I'm
not like a DJU guy. I think dj U is okay,
I mean he'll play on a six percent of passes
last season in a in a in a run friendly
offense like that was just not good enough. And who's
(01:56:44):
the one you mentioned? Usc USC's there went total seven
and a half right now, I know it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:49):
I know a lot of turnover there, you know that? Wow?
Speaker 4 (01:56:52):
Yeah, I know it. Name might have to might go
over with nine probably nine and a half, right or
is it ten and a half? There's only there's five
teams that are at ten and a half. It's like
Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, maybe Alabama, Like maybe no
name's up there at ten and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:57:10):
We might have to hit the over there. By the way,
we'll have some details for you.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
Joseph Newgarden, he runs it back back to back Indy
five hundred champ there and did wager on them again.
Speaker 4 (01:57:22):
He did the drafting thing though, like you said in
the last lap.
Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
That's I'm telling you, dude, it's a little bit more
like NASCAR these days. In Indy five hundred racing.
Speaker 4 (01:57:30):
You win, what do you win for the race?
Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
How much money?
Speaker 2 (01:57:34):
Yeah, I don't know how much the purse is. I'm
not sure, but it's it's the prestige along with that.
Speaker 4 (01:57:40):
Jeff, you know, is this the one you drink the
milk in?
Speaker 3 (01:57:42):
Oh yeah, yeah, I go two percent myself.
Speaker 2 (01:57:45):
All right, we'll come back here just a second. There
is a star that says he's going to be super aggressive.
What about his team though, We will compare some notes
before we get on out of here. He is Jeff Schwartz.
I'm Brian, Now keep it liked right here on Fox
Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz.
I'm Brian No live from the Tireck dot Com studios.
Speaker 4 (01:58:07):
Here.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
Is this a Jeff Schwartz selection here? I didn't pick it?
Speaker 4 (01:58:13):
Yes, yeah I did. Actually I told him to. This
is I want to Death of Human is what I
wanted to play.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
I wonder if this is in the pregame locker room
with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 4 (01:58:27):
It's probably be here. Yeah. That that and Tiesto they're
both together in the the pre and walker room. Oh man,
I put I put. I put over seven and a
half points Fancy Edwards in the first quarter in about
thirty minutes ago. So I'm buying into the Edwards coming
hot hot for this game.
Speaker 3 (01:58:45):
Yeah, and This is what he said at shoot around
earlier today. Jeff, I'm gonna be super aggressive.
Speaker 6 (01:58:50):
I mean I haven't took more than sixteen shots in
each game, so it would be ultra aggressive coming.
Speaker 3 (01:58:56):
Out, super aggressive, ultra aggressive.
Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
And it sounds like he's gonna have twenty some shots
tonight at least that's his mindset heading into Game three.
Speaker 4 (01:59:06):
I love it, like this is why he's an alpha man,
like he's twenty two. He might not win this series,
but I love this attitude. This is the attude you
have to have if you're the dude. Yeah, if you
want to be the dude, you have this edude you
have to have. You're you're telling the other team I
am coming out, man. Let you know right now, I'm
(01:59:27):
gonna be aggressive.
Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:59:28):
It might open up things for his Teammatechell, which will
be great. But I just love it, man. I love
just just being bold and confident and tell everyone what
you're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
Yeah, now, I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
He also talked about the Wolves on the road this postseason,
something to keep in mind for Game three on the
road in Dallas tonight.
Speaker 6 (01:59:47):
I think we've played bet on the road anyway, I
mean every time we besides the Phoenix series, we haven't
played well at home, so I mean, I think we're
looking forward to this game because we played better on
the road without back and using the world.
Speaker 2 (01:59:58):
A lot of Wolves money coming in, Jeff, the line
is moved. The Wolves were three and a half point underdogs.
Now they're just a point and a half underdog on
the money line. It's even money. I say, we're looking
at a two to one series after.
Speaker 4 (02:00:13):
A Well, I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (02:00:15):
It's it's it's moved.
Speaker 2 (02:00:16):
You know. I don't like when the money keeps moving
on the side that you like, because I'd like to
double dip. I'm already in on the Wolves plus three.
I like to go money line. But we'll see how
this thing starts out, you know, maybe something Jeff, Yeah,
we'll go in game.
Speaker 3 (02:00:30):
Here, all right, everybuddy, enjoy your evening fun hanging with you.
We'll see you soon.
