(00:26):
this is how it started mont Scene. We got teamed
up for three consecutive four hour shows, that's right. Then
we settled into our two hour show, that's right, and
they're like, you want to double up again this weekend.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
We're like, yes, well does a bear poop in the woods?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Thank you very much. I mean, we always have plenty
to talk about, so we're going to get a full
four in here on a fabulous Sports Saturday. By the way,
I want to share a quick story that's non sports
related before we get to all the sports talk. And
we got plenty to get to on a very very
busy time in the world of sports. But yesterday I
(01:01):
was at your old stomping grounds at Universal Studios.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Eew.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Now you and your man Sean met a Universal Studio
we did.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
We met on a tram.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Well, the tram is a big part of my story.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Oh goody, did you Indonise fall back in love on
a tram?
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Was that?
Speaker 1 (01:18):
What's happening here?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
No, that did not happen. But you know, we are
there to celebrate the birthday of our younger son. He's
twenty six years old enough. So it was Denise, my
daughter of Paris is in Europe right now with her grandma.
And then obviously Drake, our oldest was there as well,
so the four of us and we did get the
express passage you need toom yeah, and that is well
worth it. Although it's not cheap obviously, but it's pricey,
(01:42):
but if you want to go to Universal Studios and
literally get on.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
All the ride without stress.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Without stress, and we were able to do that over
the course of the day. Now, the tram ride was
sort of our planned last thing of the day, you know,
because it takes about forty five minutes on the tram ride.
The tram ride well chronicled about you and Sean falling
in love. Actually you fell in love. Sean didn't realize
(02:08):
that he had quite fallen in love yet.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
You know what, See, we don't need to go into
the detail.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
All right, So here's what happened. So it's said on
the website, because we checked this all out. The last
tram left at six thirty. The park closes at eight.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Sounds about right.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
So but I when we got there, we saw a
lot of high school It was grad sort of a grading. Okay,
So we're down in the Harry Potter area. We had
dinner there, wonderful dinner. Did the two Harry Potter rides,
which are normal. Had dinner in Hogsbeat, like the absolutely
and I had the chicken with the corn on the cars.
Absolutely delicious.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
It is actually really good food and really.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Really good food. And then we did the the two rides,
the very quick roller coaster and then the.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Long ride of the Hippogriff, Yes, and the Forbidden Journey.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Correct. So we did both of those and now we're
heading over to the tram ride.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
It is.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Then if last tram leaves at six thirty according to
the website that morning. Yes, So we get there and
we got our express passes ready to roll and they're like, no,
we're shut down. Last tram left at six fifteen. I
said no, it said specifically They're like, no, there's signs
around the park that say six fifteen. I'm like, what signs?
(03:22):
What are you talking about on the website at six thirty?
And I'm losing it. Mike like, I can. I can
maintain a certain level of calm, but if you really
strike a nerve with me, you don't want to be
around me.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
So the girl, who has obviously nothing to do with
this other than the fact she won't let us on
it's six nineteen. Yeah, she refers me to guess relations.
So I literally leave the three of them and I
march all the way to the front entrance guest relations.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
So I get up to the boot this guy and
I said, we got problems here, and I'm showing him
the four or express passes. I paid a mint for
these today and it said on your website six point
thirty final trama the day. And we got there at
six nineteen and we're turned away and he goes, yeah,
well there's signs at say six fifteen. I said, I
want a refund on the We don't give refunds, sir, Well.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Today I'm as Goona said, today, you will.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
So I'm losing it. Finally, Denise and the boys show up,
knowing that Dad, you don't want to unleash Dad. They
almost pull me away, right, so we almost resign ourselves
that we just got screwed. We're just gonna have to
live with it. So we had a little time laugh,
We did a couple other rides and then it's getting
a little cool, so we got a couple of hot
chocolates and a couple of muffins, sort of wrap up
our day. And then I see Denise and you see,
(04:41):
you know, you know how Denise is. She's talking to guy,
looks very official. And the next thing I know, this
lady comes up and she works for the park. She says,
we want to correct the situation. Okay, you know she
and by the way, she's a big KTLA fan where
I work. And by the way, our guests coming in
up b shawn aylock words so that you know we're
(05:02):
talking about that, and she brings in another guy. She
goes arrange for a future day where they can get
four express passes. So my oldest son says, well, his
birthdays in October, so there you go, that'd be great.
And then the guy says, well, we have the Halloween
you know, yeah, would you rather have that as well?
And he's like, yes, yes, they've been to that event
(05:23):
many times in the years. Express passes for them.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
That is expense more expensive.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Really expensive for that night. Yes, four passes.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Wow, I'll give you a tour right now, so you know, Studios,
you don't have to feel like you've missed it. You
want you want me to give you my spiel going
down the movie timeline on your left hand side. Sound
Stage twelve, one of the biggest in the world, where
the Voice film, where Scarface film that happened right in there,
we have ton I can do this for you so
you can feel like you're a part of it. We'll
make a shark come out.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I bet you know I actually did that. I did
your job for one day. It was a big station
promotion where I got to do the reading of it.
But the fact that now I want to thank these
people Universal Studios. You were very cool, came through. Yeah,
not necessary, we'd accepted our fate. But then for him
to score those four tickets.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
For that night, yeah, no, that's pretty incredible.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
People. If you don't understand how expensive those Halloween Horror
Nice Express Express tickets are for that and it's.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
A hard cap, like the amount of Yes, Like there's
also a cap for the day operation, but it's a
different cap, the night one. It's like a hard cap
and it sells out quickly and it's very expensive to do.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
So they did that.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Well listen, it's I will thank you, thank you very much.
You know, it's so funny. When I used to work
there on the tram, people would would cut Like the
park closes at eight, and people would show up at
seven thirty. They're like, this is all we wanted to do,
So why did you come at seven thirty at nine?
If this was why you came from Florida to do
Wisconsin whatever, that should have been the first thing you did.
And it always closed early, but sometimes people will come
(06:59):
into the very very end of the day and they
would get so mad. I was like, well, probably you
had eight hours to do the trim. Like you know
what I'm saying, like, what are we doing? What are
we doing?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Chris?
Speaker 6 (07:09):
How are you today? I'm doing alright? You know your
stories are dredging up memories of mine. When my first
job out of high school was, I mean in high
school was working at the Toledo Zoo and I'm just
imagining it because I had a moment like this where
I was running park operations and running like a carousel
around there, and someone was giving me a whole kinds
of hell because there was no sign posted that carousel
(07:31):
was was two dollars. And I just imagine Steve Hartman
coming up on me on this same kind of situation now,
And I'm kind of getting a little bit of PTSD here,
So thank you.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
You don't want to be around me. The poor guy,
this guy? How old was when you say guy, how
old are we talking here? Like I'm imagining his seventeen
year old just wasn't No. Well, this guy was the
guest relations guy, but he looked like he was in
his twenties, maybe late twenties. Same was Hector. I feel bad.
The only thing that's saved Hector, Denise and the boys
showing up and started pulling me away because I was
(08:03):
about to come over the counter on this guy. I
will say, he really he didn't. He didn't flinch, like
he wasn't intimidate at all. I started pulling out. You know,
I'm big stuff. You don't want to mess with me.
I'm trying. I've tried everything in my power to get
a refund or get some kind of future tickets.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Yeah, the guy, the guy from my youth, was threatening
to like sue me in the sue and everything.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Oh I hadn't. I had it all over. I said,
false advertising. You know, we'll do a full investigation on
the TV. What's your name? Is that your real name?
I was. I was so obnoxious, it was ridiculous, but
I was just you know, talking anyway. Okay, So but
the good news is we're all set and I outside
of that, we had a wonderful dad. It's a great
it's a great time. So if you're listening wherever you are,
(08:45):
you come into the LA area and you ever have
a chance to go out to Universal Studios. I've only
been there like a thousand times, you tell me, And
it's uh, it's well worth it to go to the
water World show.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
That is such a good show.
Speaker 6 (08:57):
Still still still twenty four and we still have a show,
a live show with water World, probably because they haven't
made another movie that involves both pyrotechnics and jet skis.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
Well.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah. The one ride where the express pass does not
work is the Nintendo Ride, which is the new one
and for my generation. I'm just not a video game guy.
I know that seems archaic, like you really have to
be old. Not Nintendo is old too. I imagine you
have found something well. I mean, by the way, our
car was the Super Mario Car and we won thanks
(09:30):
to my boys. They're like, you know, you just shoot.
I mean I was just, you know, hitting the buttons
as fast as they could. I didn't even know what
I was saying. I hear Drake like yelling at me.
He's in the front seat. He's got turn Dad turn
laugh laugh. Right, yeo.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I hated the hat thing that they give you.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
It is weird and it was wet. No because they
thank you, well, well they spray it down.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
They said, no, of course they do. They do, but
still it doesn't fit.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Right right, And here's like a knob on the bat
to type.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, it's like, just give me the three glasses. Why
did it have to be this whole head thing, like,
just give me the glasses. That was the worst part
of it. And the rad was like fine, I like
Mario Kart the cool part. I mean, you said you
weren't you're not big into the video games, but that
Rainbow Road, it's all that's an awesome little round.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
It was just a blur to me. I kept looking,
I saw the score, and I just kept hitting and like,
you know, try to do my best. All right, we
are going to talk plenty of sports. I going to
get that one out of the way. Coming up on
the other side, we're going to be joined by a
mutual friend of ours that you were completely unaware of.
I was case. We'll explain that in a moment. By

Steve Harban and Manzi Blanios Here Fox Sports Saturday. We're
alive from the tire iraq dot com studios. Now, you
would think as much as Monty and I have worked
together over the years and we know each other pretty well, yes,
and in a lot of ways we do, yeah, yeah, yeah,
but apparently there's something that we have kept apart on
(12:07):
and then that that is our acquaintance to this gentleman
that joins us right now. He does play by play
for the l A Sparks. He does a lot of
millions of things. Uh. But indeed, Rashan Halock Rashaan. Montsy's like,
so hey, my buddy Rashaan is coming on. Uh, you know,
do you know this guy? And I'm like, what do
(12:30):
I know Rashan Halo.
Speaker 9 (12:33):
I I'm just I'm the link between you two, Steve,
between two. I mean this this goes back eighties. I
mean we all, we all, interestingly enough, we're all at
the same shop.
Speaker 10 (12:45):
Maybe I think Monsie may have.
Speaker 9 (12:46):
Just missed you.
Speaker 10 (12:47):
Still, you might have already left to come a t
l A. And I followed you over there, of course.
But yeah, we it's uh.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
What are we doing here of sorts.
Speaker 10 (12:59):
When we even know we needed right exactly?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Well, this is why I tell everybody in this industry,
and honestly this is true of any industry, and people
know it out there. You will if you stay in
a certain industry, you will cross paths with the same
people over and over and don't burn any bridges. Don't
burn any bridges. But Rashon, obviously, your career has been unbelievable.
(13:23):
I mean I'm trying to think of all the different
places you worked, all the different sports you have covered
over the years when you started as a young intern
for US way back in the day. Congratulations, by the
way on all your success.
Speaker 9 (13:37):
Oh appreciate it, Steve, and thank you all. A great
deal to you.
Speaker 10 (13:41):
You've always been in here and helping hand, and you've
always been there for advice and encourage me along the way.
So I appreciate you, my man.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
And then I have to thank Rashan because he's the
one who got me the internship, So like you, thanks
to you. I'm thinking you and Sean and here we are,
my brother. Yeah, I told you that the.
Speaker 9 (14:02):
Story this is true.
Speaker 10 (14:05):
My brother met Monty and he told me about her,
and I talked to our buddy Armit and low Mo.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah, all right, Rashaan, let's let's get some sports dock in.
We've been We've been exchanging pleasantry throughout the show so far.
We just got started. I want to talk a little
bit about the w NBA right now, because obviously you're
obviously play by play with the Sparks. You've been associated
with this league for a while. Obviously, I've been following
the WA since it came about in nineteen ninety seven,
(14:35):
and I have a lot of friends that have played
in this league. And I have a great deal of
respect for those that participate in any sports as a
non athlete. They run circles around me. But this Caitlin
Clark situation is is getting to me a little bit
in a getting a little sideways right now. Look, she
(14:57):
did what she did at Iowa. I reckon I that
she broke a lot of the records. I don't recognize
that she broke any Pete Marivitch record. I mean that's
where I sort of draw the line. To me, it's
a put down to the women's game to suddenly throw
men into the conversation to somehow justify their greatness. They
don't need that. They can certainly stand on their own.
(15:18):
But the hype on Caitlyn Clark was she is the
Steph Curry on the women's game. Like, we've never seen
anyone with the ability to hit outside shots on the
lady side the way we have Caitlin Clark. And I
know it's early. I know she's a rookie. We haven't
seen that Caitlin Clark so far, so far in the WNBA.
(15:42):
Do you feel like this buzz that's been created by
her arrival in this league and she is the biggest
star in this league by leaps and bounds at least
right now, is that going to be enough if she
doesn't somehow get to that superstar level in her game
on the or is this going to go by the wayside,
(16:03):
if we see more of what we've seen so far
in her game, yeah.
Speaker 10 (16:08):
I think she'll get there. Steve, I think it's a
matter of time. It's the pressure, the expectations put on
her were just unreal, and I think everyone needs to
just take a step back and look at this thing realistically, right,
Like what rookie comes into any professional sports league and
just dominates right away, Like it's very rare that that happens.
(16:30):
But you look at Caitlin, I mean, she's leading rookies
and scoring, she's leading her team in scoring. There have
been some rookie bumps there, which is to be expected,
and so I think over time we'll get there. I
think she'll be that player that you know, so many
people expected her to be. But right now, she's going.
Speaker 9 (16:51):
Through she's a rookie.
Speaker 10 (16:53):
She's going through the ups and downs that come with
a rookie year in professional sports. You know, some nights
she's gonna look great. I mean, she we had her
game the other night out in India, out in Indiana,
and you know, she dropped thirty plus on the Spark right,
and then you know, you can come back today and
she was in the team, and so I think it's
(17:15):
just a matter of time before she's able to get there.
Kurt Miller, or the head coach of LA Sparks says.
He says, it normally takes about three to four years
for players to start to make an impact in this league,
and I don't think that it'll take Clark that loan
to get there. But I do think that people kind
of have to ride this wave with her. I think
(17:35):
that the expectations have been just no, no one's done
her any favors. They've been they've been so high, they've
been pretty much unrealistic. I don't remember a professional athlete
entering the league with this much hype and this much
expectation around them. That's possibly Lebron right, and Steve you
(17:56):
can probably correct me if I'm wrong on this one,
but it's you know, everybody expected Lebron the King, right,
he was going to come in and it was a
dark time in the NBA and he was going to
try to, you know, help get the league back up
and going. And those sort of expectations have been put
on Clark, and in all fairness, it hasn't been really
fair to her to put on this rookie to be
(18:18):
the savior of a league, and I think a lot
of people who did so didn't recognize just how competitive
and how talented the w NBA was before she got
there and continues to be with her now in there.
The WNBA is the hardest league in the world to.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Make a roster.
Speaker 10 (18:33):
People don't realize that, right Like they are only twelve teams,
there are only twelve spots. Just because your a first
round pick doesn't guarantee you a roster spot.
Speaker 9 (18:41):
It is the toughest league in.
Speaker 10 (18:42):
The world, the toughest professional sports league in the world
to make a roster. And so we're just seeing some
of the ups and downs right now from a part, Yeah,
you make.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
An excellent employer Rashan about Lebron because he was the
chosen one. Kaylen Clark was not the chosen one, and
yet she has so much pressure on her shoulders. You
have been the play for the Sparks for what not
four years?
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yes?
Speaker 10 (19:03):
Right?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Okay, fourth season? Now what we hear about the like
the hype, the difference between last year and this year
you're actually in it. Do you see a major jump
not even just Kitlin Clark, but Cameron brings for the
Sparks like, are you seeing this major jump that everybody
keeps talking about because you're just in the middle of it.
Speaker 10 (19:24):
It's very interesting. It's there's a lot more eyeballs, there's
a lot more attention. Clark obviously brings a lot to that,
but people forget like Angele Reach came in with a
huge following, right, Like Cameron Brien, she has a following
of her own, right. She was a new balance athlete
before you know, entering the WNBA. But I'll say this
about Clark. We we had our game at Crypto earlier
(19:47):
this season nineteen thousand and one oh three showed up
and it was weird because I was talking to my
partner Mary Murphy the next day. I was like, what
did you think, Mary, Like, was it seventy thirty sparks?
Fans like sixty forty And she kind of estimated it, like, well,
at times it felt like it was seventy thirty sparks,
the other times it felt like it was seventy thirty fever.
(20:08):
And it was you get close to the end of
the game and you know the parts need to stop.
Everybody's on their feet, they're channing defense the band. Clark
hits a bomb and then the place goes crazy, right.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
So.
Speaker 10 (20:20):
It was it was insane. But she likened it to
kind of the Steph Curry effect, right, where like you
want your team to win, but you also you pay
the ticket. You're in a team that you want to
see Steph be Steph. Right, you want to see Steph
hit hit, bombs, hit logo threes, And so it was
it was short of that effect. And then after the game,
like no one left, Like she's walking off the court
(20:41):
and you know, saying goodbye to people and everything. She's
getting a standing ovation and I got chills in all honesty,
like it was the first I ever been a sporting
event and that happened. And so it's you can see it.
You can see it in the attendance. You know, even
after the Clark game, Like it wasn't nineteen thousand, you know,
that showed up the very next night when we played Dallas,
but it was it was over ten thousand plus, right,
(21:02):
which is near the top of the league in the WNBA.
And so you're certainly seeing the effect from this class
has been phenomenal in terms of like their following. This
is a class that's unique because they started in the pandemic,
and so we had nothing to do with sit at
home and watch TV. We were watching sports. And so
I think the world, the country just kind of just
(21:23):
followed this classics progression, and they put up fantastic numbers
and had incredible followings like a Clerk, you know, like
a Ree, like a Cardoso, like a Brink, like a
Rakia Jackson whose sparks have as well and have sort
of followed this group into the w NBA. And so
I think that's allowed for sort of this popularity increase.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
All right, Let's make something very clear. There are no
fever fans in La. Clark fans in La. Let's make
that Claire. You know they don't care about the fever,
but they obviously do care about Caitlin Clark. All right,
I want to switch scares now, Rashaan. You know that
Monci is a die hard Clippers fan, and you do
(22:04):
some working with Katla on the Clippers broadcast as well,
So I want to get your take on where they're going.
They just signed Tyler. We were winning on this contract extension.
He's getting a lot of money and I'll say anything
you want to say if you're going to pay me
fourteen million dollars a year, So all of a sudden,
he's buying in to the future of this franchise. But
they got to make a decision on Paul George, they
(22:25):
got to make a decision on James Harden. Where are
they going from here? And do you believe that that
trio can eventually lead the Clippers to the promised Land?
Speaker 10 (22:39):
I think so, Steve. I was shocked. I was shocked
the way it ended. I was baffling to me the
way that it ended. But here's the thought. I think
you bring in a Harden, right, just because you know
the injury history with Kawhi, you know the injury history
with Peg, Like in case one of those guys go down,
then you also have another superstar there, right and hard
(23:02):
and so I think that's why you bring him in.
I think that he wants to be here. It looks
like he's going to be here to stay. I personally thought,
you know, even without Kawhi, they had enough to get
past Dallas. But Dallas is on this historical run right now,
which is reminiscent of their last historical run where you know,
they slipped the Lakers out of the playoffs. Andrew Biden
(23:22):
was throwing his jersey into the stands after getting ejected.
So it seems it seems it seemed like they had enough.
And I say that because we saw it right Like
I was with this team on the first half of
the Grammy trip, and that's when they were, without questioning,
the best team in the league at the time, like
net rating, offensive rate, defensive, you name it. Like they
(23:44):
were at the top of the charts in that and
they went into the Boston Garden on the second out
of a back to back against a Celtics team that,
granted was without Christats Razingis, but they so lacked them.
I mean like it wasn't even close. I don't even
know if Chriss would have been a help that night.
It was one of the worst losses of the Celtics
that ever had inside the Boston Garden. So I think
(24:07):
the key thing is being able to get PG back.
And you know, I think you kind of have a
still mat right now, and where's this going to go?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Right?
Speaker 10 (24:15):
It appears that, you know, the contract is there waiting
for him to sign. It looks like he wants from
all the reports, it looks like he wants Max money
and Philly and possibly Orlando may be willing to go there,
which it looks like the Clippers may not be willing
to go there right now. So uh, I think that's
that's huge because without without PG, now you're kind of
(24:36):
stuck in a situation where you're down one less superstar, right,
and you don't have the cat space to go get
another one, right, You don't have the cappace to go
get anybody. Really like, I mean, you're kind of hamstrung.
Two PG too, Kawhi too hard, and in that sense
because the Clippers is don't They don't have the assets,
they don't have the cat space to go out and
do anything. And so I think this whole PG thing,
(24:57):
the way this whole thing plays out, is going to
be something to watch this summer.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, I really like that you said that you
think they can make this work, Rashwan, But I.
Speaker 10 (25:05):
Was drinking the kool aid. I'm not gonna lie like
I was.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
No, Yeah, what are you tell you?
Speaker 10 (25:10):
I can't say that about the Clippers.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
I've been drinking the kool aid for years and it's
the same damn kool aid and nothing changes here. I'm
just like I feel I feel like Kawhi Leonard being
extended is what is holding us hostage? Like we need
to sign PG now because you're right, but are we
are we just going through the motions now.
Speaker 10 (25:33):
It's it's interesting because like there's there's this the thought
out there. Right, Like Kawhi, I mean, he played in
most games ever played as a Clipper. He looked like
the old Kawhi, right Like, he looked like Kawhi Leonard,
like a top five player in this league. And it
was a contract here, right, No, he signs a contract man.
Unfortunately he's not available for the postseason. And so it's
(25:57):
I mean it's tough because when those guys are healthy,
you know what you got, you know what you can get.
But it's a big ifs and it just hasn't like
Kawhi just hasn't been available for the postseasons or one
injury or another. You know, PG has had his issues.
You know, Harden got off to a great start, but
he sort of, you know, sort of fizzled towards the
end of the season, whether it was fatigue or what
(26:20):
have you. And so, I mean, they it's the decisions
that they have to make, are there. They don't they
don't really have a choice like they need Kawhi like
they need PG because they're so they gave up so
many assets for PG, right, like you, it's almost like
you have to retain him and then even if he leaves,
(26:41):
like you can, you can sign him because he's one
of your guys, right, so you can go over the
salary cap, right, you can be in that lecture tax spreshold.
But if he walks out the door, there's no money
there to be able to bring anybody else in. And
so are they hamstrung in in a way, yes, in
a sense because they they're they're sort of married to
this bunch and Balmer I mean, credit him, like he
(27:01):
wants to take this thing through. They're entering a new arena.
They got a whole new branding. I like the red uniform.
It looks good. I mean, hopefully the product, you know,
is the same thing. I'm sure we'll see you in
the wall.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
I'm not gonna be on the wall. It looks too steep.
I'll be there, Oh, don't don't get me wrong. I
want to be there. The wall just looks a little
steep for me.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
I don't know if I'm gonna do it well, Rashawn,
I tell you what. It's great to catch up with you.
I I like that sort of full circle. So I
was there to sort of help or Sean get his
career started, and then he was there to help your
career started. And now with Sean Monsie is here to
help keep my career a lot. Okay, So it's like
(27:40):
it's like a full circle here, which is unbelievable. Rashan,
love you man, it's great to catch up with you.
Continue the great work and future success as always.
Speaker 10 (27:51):
Love you too, buddy, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Take care bye, Rashawan.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
That's uh Rashaan Haylock. There is like a full circle thing.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
It is like a full circleunbelievable.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
All right, speaking of full circle, let's find out what
is trending right now. There's another man we love who
I had no idea. He thought, Wow, Harvin, you get
here early. But this is really ridiculous. You're here this early,
and I'm like, no, no, no, four hours with Moncey today,
we're here the whole time you're here.
Speaker 11 (28:17):
Well, usually if you have a show in the afternoon,
you're spending the night in the studio.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Yeah, well, I'm usually here to terrorize who's ever sitting
where you're sitting right now, whether it's Ilo, Nick Cope
obviously you I mean, and what we have interesting conversations,
I believe. I do believe too.
Speaker 11 (28:39):
But Moncey, as you know, I mean in having conversations
with Steve, I don't know if you'd call them conversations,
I'd call them more like monologues.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're monologues with an occasional one line
are thrown in and then all.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Of a sudden he just's right back in and then
here he goes for another four or five minutes. I'll
put it this way. You're are one of the best
at feigning interest in what I'm talking about. Some people
are really, you know, pretty clear, like stop talking, but
you at least pretend that what everything coming out of
(29:12):
my mouth because everything I'm saying is very interesting to
me obviously, well for sure. But you know, do your
kids think that though?
Speaker 1 (29:19):
You know they know, yeah, they listen and then they're like,
have money please?
Speaker 11 (29:24):
So yeah, no, that's exactly the case, Monsy, because like
I don't play a psychologist on the radio, but I
feel what you don't get from your kids as far
as that validation about how cool you are and all
the stats you have is when you come in here
and you get to share that information with me and
Monsey and others. That's where we come in and you're
not getting it from your kids.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Yeah, you see how that works. Well. I appreciate that,
I really do. At this stage. I would hope that
I have some relevance.
Speaker 11 (29:49):
Yes, yes, yes, of course. And your hair hasn't changed
from all these years. That always will be relevant.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
And it doesn't move, it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
It just right there.
Speaker 11 (29:59):
Yeah, I'm just wondering. Kind of reminds me of Marv
Albert and what he has.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
But that that is, there's a difference between Marv's hair
and my hair. What's that his store bought and mine
is acting mine?
Speaker 11 (30:09):
I don't know, likely to see I love to see
well to see about that. But yeah, I mean, obviously
Marv Albert spending many years in the NBA and from
the w NBA as where we go and then click.
Cayden Clark had eleven points, eight rebound, six assists and
a performance where she went to of nine from three
point range. I know Steve was high on her performance.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
She's shooting thirty six percent from the field this year
and about thirty percent from the free point line, and
those aren't really impressive numbers.
Speaker 11 (30:39):
Now, well from where she's attempting them, they should be
four pointers. So Indiana fever, they win their first game
at home. Their first home win is today and they
beat the Chicago Sky seventy one to seventy at a
barn burner of a contest. Major League Baseball, Oh my goodness,
you got eight different games going on right now, including
(31:00):
the one that's been on longest, the Toronto Blue Jays.
They have been blanked five to nothing against the Pittsburgh
Pirates into the sixth inning is where they are in Toronto.
Blue Jays are going to be without Jordan Romano, their closer,
because he is going to be put on the fifteen
day il because of right elbow inflammation. The p Andres
are currently losing on the road at the Kansas City
(31:21):
Royals two to one in the third, and the Padres
are going to be out You Darvish and Joe Muskrove,
two of their key pitchers, because of left groin strain.
For Darvish and Muscrove with the right elbow inflammation, so
they will both be planted on the fifteen day il
other notable Major League Baseball games right now, the Orioles
(31:42):
and Rays, they are all squared up at three in
the top of the second, Diamondbacks and Mets into the first.
And I know Steve's very familiar now with Phoenix and
the Diamondbacks.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Also the White Socks and.
Speaker 11 (31:54):
Brewers without a score at all going into the third inning.
They're one one, Red Sox and tie bottom of the second.
You mentioned the Padres score, the Guardians two Nationals nothing
top of the second. There so a lot of these
games in their infancy. NHL Rangers and Panthers tonight at
eight Eastern, it's the Eastern Conference Final, Game six with
(32:15):
floridahead and the best of seven series three games to two.
Can the Rangers force a game seven and third round
of the RBC Canadian Open Ryan Fox and Robert McIntyre.
They are currently at the top of the leader board,
Ryan Fox sole possession of first into that third round.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
He is through five holes, he is four under.
Speaker 11 (32:35):
The man is on a tear, and so much could
be said about Rory McElroy, who finished his day with
a sixty five in round three that put him to
seven under for the tournament. Five under on his day today.
And lastly, Real Madrid and Dortmund they are fighting for
that Champions League title and as of right now, we're
(32:56):
watching things unfold in that mega soccer test in Real Madrid.
In the seventy seventh minute, they have a one nil lead.
With that, let's kick the soccer ball back over to
Steven Monsei Ice the family.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Thank you very much, be Fenn. All right, coming up
on the other side, we're gonna begin our conversation about
the looming NBA Finals matchup between the Boston Celtics and
the team that Monsey guaranteed four weeks ago would win
the NBA Championship, the Dallas Mavericks. We're gonna talk about
(33:34):
the biggest problem with this matchup. This is Fox Sports Saturday,
Steve Harvey, Moncie Belanos Here, Fox Sports Saturday. We are
live from the tire Rock dot Com studios. All right,
we're all set NBA Finals matchup between the Boston Celtics
and the Dallas Mavericks, and we got a lot to
(33:55):
break down over the course of the show today on
what I think is a pretty intriguing NBA Finals matchup.
But there is one major problem with this matchup.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
When's the problem.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
The Celtics wrapped up their four games sweep over the
Pacers on Monday.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Which is like a turnadygo, and.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
The MAVs finished off the t Wolves on Thursday. By
the time we get to Game one of the NBA Finals,
the MAVs will been off seven days and the Celtics
will have been off ten days.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Now.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
If you want to know how to lose an audience,
first of all, you had two very forgettable conference finals.
One was a sweep, one was a five game series,
and the way the t Wolves didn't show up at
home in Game five was embarrassing. So we had some
competitive series in the first and second rounds, but the
(34:56):
conference championships were duds. And now you've got this extended layoff.
By the time we get to Thursday, most people already
assumed the NBA season is over. Yeah, out of sight,
out of mind. I mean this to me, and either way,
(35:18):
it's not the first time it's happened. There was a
very famous story about the nineteen eighty nine finals when
pat Riley was the coach of the team and he
coined the phrase three peat like he can use if
I just said that I have to pay him or
something like that. Anyway, and the Lakers swept through all
first three rounds. They were eleven first was three out
(35:39):
of five to four out of seven four US, they
were eleven to zero and they're waiting on the winner
of the East. Turns out to be the Pistons rematch
from the year before, and they had like a ten
day layoff, and Riley was so concerned about them getting stale.
According to Michael Thompson, my former partner who was on
that team, he ran like a training camp and guys
(36:03):
got hurt and by the time they showed up for
the finals, half the team was banged up and they
got swept out of the finals. Yeah, so this is
going to be interesting. It's frustrating as a fan, like,
let's get this thing going. I gotta wait till Thursday
for game one. Yeah, but how Celtics management and Mavericks
management handled this extended layoff. You haven't had this all
(36:26):
year long. You don't even have this kind of layoff
during the All Star break. How you handle that layoff
to get ready for this finals will have a big
bearing on how it all plays out.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yeah, you're not wrong about that. I don't know why
the league selects like a date so far in advance
as to when the finals are going to start, when
you have no idea what's going to happen. And this
is a perfect example. I've never understood why they do that.
Another good point you have is that in basketball more
than in football, when your team is out, a lot
of fans check out, like they'll check back in eventually,
(36:58):
maybe like game whatever five in the finals. Can you
have a week off, But even if your team is
like out of the playoffs, you're watching that game. When
it comes to basketball, when your team is out, you're
kind of checked out, and you'll come back and like
check a game or two, but you are not invested
the way it is in football when your team does
(37:19):
not play in the playoffs. So this is it's gonna
be interesting how both teams manage and handle the time off. Obviously,
Boston is probably enjoying it a little bit more because
Christops Porzingis has a chance to come back and play
in the finals. They haven't said that, but he's been
out there working out, so for them, they're probably seeing
(37:40):
it as a positive. But in the grand scheme of things, yeah,
you can't replicate a game You can't pretend to have
five on five during practice and that that's gonna be
the intensity of what the Mavericks are going to bring
or vice versa. You can't do that. And so hopefully
the league realizes this that this is too much of
a gap, Like, what are we doing? What do you
mean we don't have a game until June fifth? What
(38:02):
are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I know that they sort of set the schedule based
on the potential of a seven game series, but it's
not like you have a destination you know what's going
to happen, No do you. You don't know where these
games are going to be played until each round of
the playoffs is finished, and then they determine where you
know the games are going to be played. Why can't
(38:25):
you change it right?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Why can't we change it now?
Speaker 2 (38:29):
I just do not understand. It's it's like the NBA
shoots themselves in the foot constantly, and they wonder. I
was listening to Mark Medina was on with Dan Bayer earlier,
and then somehow Mark, we'll come back for our show
a little bit later on to give his NBA exa.
But it was interesting because it was it you Chris
(38:50):
or was it talking about which you were asking questions
of Medina and which day of the year now since
the NFL is now running over them. On Christmas Day
mentioned Saint Patrick.
Speaker 6 (39:04):
I jokingly said, Saint Patrick's Day, right, maybe like Mother's Day.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
I mean, and the right thing. He goes, I got
news to you the NFL. Trump's the NBA three hundred
and sixty five days a year.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I mean, he's not wrong, he's not wrong, but I was.
Speaker 6 (39:18):
Just I was that's right. But at the same time,
it's like I at least something to pillar yourself around
a single day would be a start.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Now, I think, for look at it. I know there's
diehard NBA fans out there that honestly could care the
less about the NFL. Very few, very few. They exist,
they do exist, But for the overwhelming majority, you know,
doing this for a long time, they get frustrated if
(39:47):
we're literally not talking NonStop NFL, right, And that's just
not going to happen because I have interest in other sports.
I've always had one of my frustrations when I worked
for the Raiders organization was is that site tied to
the NFL all year long? And I'm like, no, I
don't want to do that, and then I got into sportstock,
(40:07):
which was perfect. Now I can talk about any sport
or anything, anything and whether you like it or not
so anyway, But we're gonna get into this matchup between
the Celtics and the Mavericks, made even more interesting by
the fact that yes, and only only one, only one,
(40:28):
certainly here at Fox Sports Radio a month ago, a
month ago picking the Mavericks to win the NBA Championship.
How is that gonna happen against the best team this
year in the NBA. We're gonna break it all down,
keep it here. Much more coming up. This is Fox
Sports Saturday, rolling along here bonus time for us on
(40:48):
this exciting sports Saturday once they'm broadcasting live from the
tire rack dot Com studios tyride dot Com. We're gonna
help get you there and unmatched selection, fast ree shipping,
free road as a projection over ten thousand recommended installers,
tie rack dot Com the way tire buyings should be.
It would be a lot more exciting today if we
had Game one of the NBA Finals today curiously, or
(41:11):
tomorrow or Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. But we're not
going to get the NBA Finals underway till Thursday. Celtics
off for ten days, the Mavericks off for seven days.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Yeah, because it makes perfect sense.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
It's unbelievable, all right. So, by the way, it's an
interesting matchup. When he considered this, the Boston Celtics had
by far the best record in the NBA regular season
this year, sixty four and eighteen, number one seed in
the East. In the postseason, they are twelve and two.
The Dallas Mavericks this year were fifty and thirty two.
They were the five seed in the West. In the postseason,
(41:51):
they are twelve and five. So if you just look
at the records of these two teams, this one does
not bode well for the Dallas Mavericks. And the Celtics
have been every bit as dominant in the postseason as
they've been in the regular season, complete domination of the East.
(42:13):
And yet I'm sitting here looking at someone that is
so breaming with confidence that the Dallas Mavericks ultimately are
going to be crown NBA champions. So let's start right there. Ok,
for our listeners, you made this bold prediction after the
Mavericks eliminated your beloved Clippers in the first round of
(42:34):
the playoffs, and you saw something, obviously, because you could
have just said, all right, well, they're going to lose.
In the name, how frustrating for the Clippers to lose
to a team that's not going anywhere. Instead, you want
all in on the Mavericks. So what did you see
then that convinced you that they would ultimately be where
they are now.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
So even actually before the season started, I was talking
to Carrie Rhodes, who's a big Maps fan, and I
told him the Clippers of the Maps will come out
of the West, one of them. And so I felt
that early on, even before the series started. I was
very disappointed because I like them Maps. So I was
disappointed we're gonna see them. But I was like, whoever
wins out of these two teams will come out of
the West. Now. I after they beat my beloved Clippers,
(43:16):
I saw a team that won, that won as a
team without their star being the star. That was a
big thing. Obviously, Doncic has now he is the star.
He was always a star. He just didn't play that
well against the Clippers. They are playing their best basketball
right now. The Celtics, you're right, dominated all season out
(43:39):
of the East. They were always in first place. They
pretty much cruised through the playoffs. They didn't have any
big issues. But the Celtics, to me, I don't see
them coming out as champions because if it is a
let's say every single game is a close game and
(44:00):
it comes down to the final minute and it's a
tie game, to me, the closers are on the Mavericks.
If it is one minute left in the game and
it's a tie game, the Mavericks will win every game.
I don't see the Celtics coming out in a close game.
The closers are on the Dallas Mavericks. This is not
supposed to say that Jason Tatum is not good and
(44:20):
that he can't shoot. He's great, and so is Jalen Brown.
Chris Topsporzing is going to be a big aspect. The
defense that the Celtics have, Derek White, all of that,
they're all great. It's just right now, the MAVs as
a team are playing better basketball than the Celtics. They
are they take care of home court advantage the Celtics.
They're like, we're at home, it's all right, we'll lose,
that's okay.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
All right, So let's break this down in terms of
the superstar players for these two teams. Yes, well I
U superstar. Let's just say the biggest stars, biggest two stars.
So Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown going against obviously Luca and
Kyrie right now in this moment. Yeah, if you were
(45:05):
to choose either one of those pairs to start your team,
which pair would you pick?
Speaker 1 (45:12):
Luca and Kyrie? No questions us.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Now. The argument against that is is that Jaylen Brown
and Jason Tatum are better two way players than Luca
and Kyrie, who are offensively dominant players, but they don't
play both in so the court at the same level
that Tatum or Brown do.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
And that is a fact. You were right about that.
I don't think it's going to matter for some reason.
It's just they it is their moment. It is a
MAVs moment. It's just like when we're talking to Rashan
Haylock and he was like that Grammary road trip for
the Clippers. They were the best team in the league
for like twenty five games. Great, why were we not
the best team in June or you know, like May.
(45:52):
It didn't make sense to be the best team in
December January. It does not matter. The Celtics have been
good all season. That's awesome, that's great. Right now, the
Mavericks are playing their best basketball. They are in a
zone you cannot disrupt. Kyrie or Luca. I would take them,
even though you're right the other two better two way player. Sure, Sure,
(46:15):
I'll still take and Luca.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
I agree with you on this though, and that is
I'm a little torn on those in this whole thing,
because obviously, if you're gonna win a championship, your stars
have to play well. Yes, but ultimately, we've seen this
time and again in any sport that the difference in
winning a World Series or a Super Bowl, or an
(46:39):
NBA Finals or a Stanley Cup comes down to players
that we were not thinking about going into the final round, right,
And you have to get that kind of support. Now
when I look at the Celtics now, I'm a little
close to Drew Holiday.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
He's great.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
I interviewed him when he came out of high school
before he had his one and done at UCLA's hard
to believe fourteen years in the NBA. But one thing
I know about Drew Holliday at this point of his
career's defense. I never thought that Drew Holliday was that
kind of a player. He's gotten better and better. Derek White. Obviously,
he's been one of the premier defensive players in this
league for ten years.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
White should have been well. When Jalen Brown was awarded
the Conference MVP, yeah, I thought it should have been
Derek White. I know that it was more for that
game he had just had that forty piece, But throughout
the playoffs, Derek White.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
This is where it's at. Think about this. When the
Celtics lost the finals to the Golden State Warriors a
couple of years ago, and obviously all the hooplah was
around Steph and Clay and Draymond. The difference in that
series is Andrew Wiggins. Andrew Wiggins showed up big in
(47:48):
those NBA finals. So that's I'm going to take again
the big four, Brown, Tatum, Luca, and Kyrie out of
the mix, and now I got to step back.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
Okay Washington, PJ Washington, Derek Jones, Yeah, Junior, Yeah, Lively,
Derek Lively.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah, the rookie. I mean, there are a lot of
different players on both these teams that could be the
difference in what I believe is a very even matchup.
I don't think that there's any way. I mean, I'm
not gonna I'm never gonna say defense is overrated. But
when you have great offensive players, when you're when you're
(48:28):
Luka Doncic, every team every night is trying to figure
out a way to neutralize you. That's been true for
five straight years of being first team All NBA, so
that's nothing new when it comes to the postseason. So
he uses people try different looks and everything else to
try to slow him down. But if he's in the
(48:49):
zone like he is now, it doesn't matter what you
throw at him. Nothing. You watch him in this series
against the t Wills, think about the t Walls. I
thought it was interesting. Anthony Edwards talked about this after
the embarrassing blowout loss in Game five at home, is
that we were never the same team in this series
(49:10):
that we had been against Denver or in our opening round,
and they just could not come up with an answer.
And I'm watching Luca play right now, and he is
in such a zone. Everything is very deliberate. I mean,
he doesn't move fast anyway, but it's it's like.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
Well, it's like everything he.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
Does everything, It's like Jokic last year Yes, who got
better and better as the playoffs went on to totally
dominate that postseason run. And I'm seeing that exactly right
now with Dauncis. So Yeah, defense is part of the
equation and evaluating a player's overall talent. But understand this,
(49:52):
if a great offensive player is in the zone, no
defense is going to stop him. None.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
Yeah, and Luca, let's be real, He's not the only
one in the zone. Kyrie has been making shots with
the hand in his face by seven footers all playoffs.
He is also in his own little zone. Whether you
want to say, it's all a business decision and he
hasn't really changed and it's all fake. It doesn't matter.
He is delivering for the Mavericks, and I agree. I
(50:19):
don't think it's going to be a blowout. I think
they're all going to be close games. And if they're
close games, the MAVs have the closers they do.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
They have that and Kyrie did it in the biggest
game of his career, Game seven on the road against
the Golden State Wars. It wasn't Lebron that hit the
game winner, it was Kyrie Irving.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
And last week didn't we talk about just like experience
in general between Minnesota and the MAVs. When you have Kyrie,
like you just said, that crazy shot in that finals,
then we talk about Luca and how he's been a
professional since he was sixteen years old. The spotlight is
not too big for him. He's not afraid of it.
Jason Kidd also a winning coach. All of that, Well,
(50:59):
Minnesota seem to have beat the defending champions and were
kind of like we did a guys, like good job
instead of like staying focused. And I feel like the
MAVs have the focus. The storyline of Kyrie going back
to Boston, that has to be fueling him. I just
think it's the momentum is on the MAVs side.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Well, if the Celtics don't win the championship, this is
six of the last eight years they've made it at
least to the Eastern Conference Finals. Only once had they
actually been to the finals before this year in that run,
and you look at a guy like Jason Tatum, first
team All NBA in the last three years. What happened
last year Game seven, Eastern Conference Finals. He gets hurt
(51:42):
at the beginning of the game. By the way, first play,
Remember how Miami was up three to zero. Suddenly looked
like the Celtics are going to be the first team
ever to win for straight after losing the first three.
They're at home Game seven, and it just didn't happen.
Which is a guy growing up as a Celtic Cata
wasn't the worst thing for me. I'm going to bring
(52:02):
up on the other side, something that was shared by
one of our compatriots here at Fox Sports Radio. I
wasn't here to question his sentiment, but I'm just gonna
say he was way off. Who said what? We'll tell you.
This is Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Harman and Montci Belanios
(52:24):
here a Fox Sports Saturday. We are live from the
tire rack dot Com studios. Don't forget right after the show,
the podcast is going up. If you miss any of

Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure

Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts. You'll see
the show posted right after we get off the air,
(52:46):
doing bonus time today a couple extra hours. We are
apparently later in the show the return of who's your daddy?
Speaker 1 (52:54):
Oh of course, Oh it's not going anywhere. Who's your daddy?
Who will be back?
Speaker 2 (53:00):
Adam Kaplan Our NFL insider is going to be John
As And Mark Mendina was on earlier with Dan Byer today.
Did a great job with Dan. Enjoyed listening to the guys.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
But but you didn't like something.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
I got to call out my man, Dan.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Did you give a dad joke that wasn't very good?
Speaker 2 (53:18):
Yeah? You know, I'm used all that stuff for Dan
over the years. I love those Yeah, yeah, and I
love Dan. I mean Dan is I mean, you talk
about the anchor of Fox Sports Radio, it is Dan Bayer.
Let's let's make that infinitely clear here. But Dan, Dan
went down a path in an argument today. He went
(53:39):
down a path that I was like, no, no, So
he was talking about the relevance. He was asking Mark
Mendina about just how relevant the Boston Celtics are anymore.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Oh, yes, I heard them.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
And he brought up the point that the Lakers are
still v team in the NBA, and then after that
it's the Golden State Warriors. Now. I have been following
the Lakers since Elgin Baylor was still playing for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
Don't age yourself.
Speaker 2 (54:16):
Okay. By the way, he was an amazing player. So anyway,
I'm listening to Dan make this argument about, well, the
Lakers are still the team of the league, but are
the Celtics relevant? And I'm like, Okay, the Lakers' relevance
(54:38):
is based on one person, Lebron James. Here's the reality
of the Lakers, and then I'll get to the Celtics.
In the six years that Lebron has been on the Lakers,
they have completely missed the playoffs twice. They've been eliminated
in the first round of the playoffs twice, one run
(55:01):
to the conference finals where they got swept, and then
a championship in front of nobody in a bubble. That
is their six years with Lebron. In the five years
prior to that, they had five straight losing seasons, missing
the playoffs every year. So in my world, I look
(55:22):
at the championship they got in the bubble in twenty
twenty and I say, and this is from someone that
follows the Lakers asterisk by the way, I say the
same thing of the Dodgers World Series win in twenty
twenty as well. When you win a championship where every
(55:43):
game is played on literally the same court and there
are no fans. And I look at the Lakers as
the one team that year in the bubble that actually
had something to play for out of the tragic death
of Kobe earlier that year, Like they were motivated. Most
of the team and players that went to the bubble
couldn't wait to get out of the bubble. So the
(56:07):
idea of that championship being the same as it's not.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
I think that's that's exactly it. It's like somebody had
to win and you did win, but it's not the same.
Not I agree with saying.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
There were no parade. There was nothing like that.
Speaker 10 (56:22):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
So when we talk about the relevance of the Lakers
or they're still the most relevant team, well, if you're
a Laker fan, I guess they are, but no more
than if you're a Cavaliers fan they are the most relevant.
I mean in your world, whoever your team is, you
think the Clippers are the most relevant because they're your team.
But the idea that the world circulates the NBA world
(56:46):
around the Lakers, I don't see that at all, and
certainly not in comparison to the Celtics. Now, the Celtics
haven't won jack. They haven't won a championship since eight
They haven't been in the NBA final. Well, they were
there a couple of years a guess of the Warriors
after a long layoff from the finals. But they have
been in the Eastern Conference finals six of the last
(57:06):
eight years. So in my world, and I look, I'm
a lifelong Celtic hater, the Celtics have been far more
relevant in the current NBA than the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
So I think you are making a different point than
what Dan was trying to say. At least I misunderstood
it in it or I understood it in a different way.
And I actually agree with Dan. I think the Lakers'
name is the most relevant still in the NBA. Just
(57:40):
the Lakers' name. It doesn't matter. They were the Lakers
name with Kobe. When how long did they go without
making the playoffs with Kobe?
Speaker 2 (57:48):
At the end there his last year, they were seventeen
and sixty five.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
And yet it didn't matter. The Lakers' name itself still
has a lot of ways.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
Is that only because we are here in southern I mean,
he got listeners all over the country, all over the
world out there and they're like, no, No, When I
think NBA, I think Boston Celtics.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
I definitely don't think Boston Celtics. I think there are
other teams like the Golden State Warriors that obviously are
a big part of the NBA with what they've done
the last couple of years. But I think it's just
it's bigger than that. It's like the brand and we
talk Cowboys are a perfect example. Cowboys, despite the fact
that they haven't won and how long, their name still
(58:31):
has a lot of weight when it comes to the NFL,
and I think that's the relationship that Dan was trying
to cant think.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
The Celtics have that. Look, here's here's something I would
say about relevance in a franchise. You know when we
talk about history, and you know, like, this is the
argument with Notre Dame football, right, I mean, when you
when you define college football, the one school in the
history of college football whose name is dominated more than
(59:00):
Ohio State, more than Alabama, more than USC is Notre
Dame football. Notre Dame like put college football on the
national map a long time ago with New Rockney and
everything else. But when I think about the Celtics dominance,
I think Red Auerbach. When I think of the Lakers dominance,
I think of doctor Jerry Buss. When I think of
Yankees dominance, I think of George Steinbrenner. And none of
(59:25):
these franchises have been the same since that person read Auerbach,
Jerry Bus, and George Steinbrenner have been gone. They're franchise.
None of those franchises have the same cachet they had
when those men were in charge.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
So you said last week, you just like dominance, You
like dominance, right, I.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
Would prefer my team dominant. But I think if dominant
team or dot individual and an individual sport is good
for a sport, right.
Speaker 1 (59:58):
So what you just listed the people that put those
teams on the map. I don't disagree that that those
teams are at the same level that they were at
that point, you know, in their in their history. But
still there may be other teams we are discussing alongside
the Lakers, And I'm saying this is a Clippers fan.
The Laker name is still probably the most talked about.
(01:00:20):
Even does it have to do with Lebron Probably a
little bit the you know.
Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
Well, I mean, if Lebron was playing for another team, Yeah, we.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Would be talking about that team. But I think I
still think the Lakers name.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Okay, we no one was talking about the Lakers between
the time Kobe retired and they signed Lebron Nobody. Yeah,
they were a bad team. They weren't making the playoffs.
Luke Walden was coached. I mean, no one was talking
about the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
We weren't bodying about them. But it didn't mean that
the Laker name wasn't what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
But that's based on history, which is the Celtics and
the look at a lot is going to be made
of the Celtics. If they win the championship, they will
break the tie they have with the Lakers and winning
their eight team championship. We've had two teams dominate the
history of this league, dominate, the Celtics and the Lakers.
(01:01:09):
But if you're going to dismiss the Celtics because will
they really haven't won anything recently? What did The Lakers
won their last legitimate championship And I was there Game
seven out at Staples Center and one of the ugliest
games I've ever seen in my life. Kobe was six
of twenty four shooting in that Game seven, he got
a lot of rebounds. It didn't matter. They won that game.
(01:01:33):
That's where it ended to me. I'm sorry, I know that.
I mean a Laker fans slay championship's a championship twenty
twenty is not the same as any other championship they won.
It's just not.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
No, it's not, but it's they won. Somebody had to win.
Speaker 6 (01:01:52):
Yes, Chris, I was gonna say, I do want to
correct Steve on one thing. He did say that there
was a period where they did what were the years
you say they didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
Matter between Kobe and Lebron.
Speaker 6 (01:02:02):
Yeah, okay, just disagree on there, and that we did
get it. Probably a good summer out of LaVar Ball
going after Luke Walton okay, yeah, the the Lonzo Ball
when Magic had drafted him over Jason Tatum. Yeah, and
insisted that his name was going to be up there
on the wall with all the other Laker legends. How
that work out so far?
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Not so good. But I mean, the bottom line to
me is this the Celtics and the Lakers. In my opinion,
having followed the history of this league, I mean I
almost date to the beginning of this league. But I
mean they are on equal ground. The Lakers and Celtics
are have both won seventeen championships. By the way, five
(01:02:44):
of the Lakers championships were with the Minneapolis Lakers, not
the La Lakers. But if you're going to say that
the Celtics have lost relevance, then you have to say
the Lakers have lost relevance. To me, the Celtics obviously
have been a much better team over the last several years.
They've had deeper runs in the playoffs, and the Lakers
(01:03:04):
of adam recent years and the only reason that anyone
talks about the Lakers is like, how much longer can
Lebron keep this going? And it's pretty much that's what
we talk about.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
So I agree with you that maybe they both lost
relevance because there's been other teams that have been fun
and exciting other players to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
But we're getting these one.
Speaker 7 (01:03:25):
And done.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Sure, But you're basing this on the history, right, which
there's nothing wrong with that. I think we're just talking
in general, like the Laker name is still probably the
most popular basketball name is right now, is it? I think?
Speaker 10 (01:03:40):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
All right, let's find out another opinion. By the way,
thoroughbred racing has new independent regulator HAISA that is implementing
comprehensive reforms, and the sport is combining hands on care
with cutting edge technology to keep its athletes safe. To
learn more, if visit Safety runs first dot com, That
safety runs first dot com. So find out what's trending
right now, so Bfan, in my opinion, the Celtics and Lakers,
(01:04:09):
when you talk about the NBA, are on equal ground.
And this comes from a lifelong Laker fan Celtic hater,
but to me, there's no separating the Celtics and the Lakers.
You know, you know what you sound like, you sound.
Speaker 11 (01:04:23):
We talk a lot about East Coast bias, but you
got the West Coast bias because you are not even
discussing the New York Knicks MSG. Madison Square Garden. Okay,
don't get me started on that the Knicks have no relevance.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 11 (01:04:37):
They're talked about anytime there's somewhat good. Well, okay, that's
a big part of it. Yeah, well that's an East
coast operation.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
How many how many high fives of Steven a handing
out before Game seven?
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
Yeah that was a little over and look at I
like Steven A. I've done some work with Steven A.
I keep telling everybody he's a good guy, all right
to be on this network, he was, we co hosted
shows together. He's a good guy.
Speaker 11 (01:05:00):
Was over the top with you know, Spike Lee and
everything else and all those We just have to read
through your West Coast bias.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
But I mean, we're talking about two franchises that have
each won seventeen championships. And by the way, the Lakers
include five championships with George Micaen and the Minneapolis Lakers.
So if you talk about, well the Celtics have lost relevance,
They've been in the Eastern Conference finals six in the
last eight years. Is their second trip to the NBA
Finals in the last three years. I don't understand. How
(01:05:30):
have they lost relevance. Well, let me ask you this, Steve.
Speaker 11 (01:05:33):
Actually it's eighteen titles for the Lakers because you forgot
to include the in season tournament titles.
Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
Stop it, Brian, Okay, now that is that is now.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
It's now you now you know that's now. It doesn't
and so make sure you get the Lakers did not
want to put that stupid banner up. The NBA said
you're going to put that banner up or else or else?
Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
What?
Speaker 11 (01:05:53):
Steve, what are they going to do to the Lakers
because they're so relevant, they're so dominant over every team?
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
What could the NFL? Or is there NBACTU? Now you
walk the streets of La late at night, I don't
know why, but anyway, so, how many people do you
see wearing Lakers in season tournament champions NBA Cup Championship shirt?
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Did they make shirts?
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
I'm sure they had to write, well, you've ever seen
any Laker fan walk around in an NBA Cup champions
doesn't mean they're not bragging about it. Most of the people,
no one is talking. Everybody's talking. You are about Holy person,
three body, just about everybody who walks the halls at
Fox Sports Radio. They basically are Laker apologies, and every
(01:06:38):
single one of them. We have a lot of people
here with a variety of opinions, which is what makes
us place work. Everyone was in agreement that nobody give
a rats ass about that tournament, that in season tournament,
that was a manufacturer. In fact, I think it's one
of the worst ideas ever ever.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
I know why they damn a second, Steve, None of
the Lakers fans around here, which there are a lot
claimed that in season turn none.
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
No, I'm with Brian on this. I think that a
lot of them will really when they were winning.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
I remember actually the time if the Clippers, who have
never won an NBA championship were to have won the cop, Well,
would that have mattered to you?
Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
I mean yes, because we've never had any anything once?
Speaker 11 (01:07:20):
And you know this, I mean we were talking about
this a couple hours ago. But the Hulu show Clipped
is coming out. Yes, it's actually people have a completely
misrepresented The show is actually going to be documenting this
upcoming season's Clippers run to win the NBA Championship.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
That's right, That's exactly what it is.
Speaker 11 (01:07:38):
So people are reading the wrong stuff about what that
show is about. Steve, Sorry, but is.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Donald Sterling gonna still be in it?
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
You can't talk Clippers history without Donald Sterle, No, you cannot.
Speaker 11 (01:07:53):
Got made a killing off of parking lots. From what
I understand, he just charged people, and well that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Was Frank McCourt. He was doesn't Frank McCourt.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Still he still owns a part of it, part.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Of the parking lot at Dodgers Stadium. Money sold off
the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
Yeah, ain't that ridiculous, Williams.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
What a way to make money? Hey, what do you
do for a lifting? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Own a parking lot.
Speaker 11 (01:08:13):
Yeah, Caitlin Clark has basically paved a parking lot in
sports fans minds.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
Let's see how I did that, Indiana fever.
Speaker 11 (01:08:22):
I'm taking one out of Monti and Steve's book there,
Indiana Fever. She led them to their first home win
of the season. It was a seventy one to seventy
triump against the Chicago Sky and Clark went four of
eleven from the field, two of nine from three point range,
and her number, Steve, was all over this. It was
a flirting with the triple double. That might be a
little bit of a stretch, but eleven points, eight rebounds,
and six assists in a couple of bricks from long range,
(01:08:45):
to say the least.
Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
And Major League Baseball, let's go over there.
Speaker 11 (01:08:48):
We've got eight games ongoing, and the first one has
already wrapped up. It was the first game to Start's
the first one, and it's the Pittsburgh Pirates eight to one.
They crunch in Toronto the Blue Jays, and the blue
Jays are down one one of their key guys, their
closer Jordan Romano, to the fifteen day IL because of
right elbow inflammation. How about those San Diego Padres, they've
scored three on answer. They're batting in casey against the Royals.
(01:09:10):
In the sixth inning, Padres are going to be down
two of their aces, You Darvish left groin strain and
Joe musgrove right elbow inflammation, So both of them are
going to be glued to the fifteen day IL for now.
Other scorers related to what's happening in Major League Baseball,
Nationals two, Guardians three. That's the top of the six
The Rangers are hounding the hapless and lifeless Marlins four
(01:09:33):
to nothing. In the six there Braves eight Athletics. A
what a barn burner that one is from Atlanta as
that one is tight going. That has mentioned the bottom
of the fifth inning, the Astros five to nothing. They
are in front of the Twins in the sixth, and
also in the sixth the Red Sox are trying to
find a way. They're up three to one against the
twenty and twenty nine Tigers. In relation to what else
(01:09:56):
is going on NHL, it's a game six out East
Eastern Conference Finals between the Rangers and the Panthers, and
Florida is ahead in the best of seven series three
games to two.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Huck will drop.
Speaker 11 (01:10:07):
At eight Eastern and finally, third round of the RBC
Canadian Open.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
We're watching this one with intent.
Speaker 11 (01:10:13):
It's Ryan Fox and right now Ryan Fox, he teed
off in the final group with what was Robert McIntyre
and it's McIntyre and Hughes Mackenzie. Hughes no relation. I
believe Robert McIntyre to our own Jason McIntyre. But it's
twelve under for both Hughes and McIntyre. And Ryan Fox
has at thirteen under sole possession of first three hundred
(01:10:36):
for the day, three shot lead through ten holes, and
Rory McElroy had himself a decent day climbing up the
leader board. He is currently he finished his round with
a sixty five today and he is tight for ninth
at seven under.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
Also, as I get it back to you, Montsey and
Steve Real Madrid.
Speaker 11 (01:10:56):
They won the Champions League title to nil over a
team that I've never heard before. But it's called Dartmun
or not Dartmouth, that's Doun.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Yes, it's much different than than Dartmouth. Wasn't he a
character in the Animal House? But I was Doun Yeah, yeah,
the Dortmund.
Speaker 10 (01:11:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
When I see that and I picture that, I think
of you. Yeah, thank Russia Dortmund.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Yeah, I wish I could add more to that story,
but I'm sorry. I just well, they're following.
Speaker 11 (01:11:28):
There were some stories that you shared with me, and
I know MONSI heard about this when Steve was in
college and he showed up to a party with nothing on.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Well, they took his clothes and then he didn't care.
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
That is true. Yeah, no modesty at all.
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
He just didn't care.
Speaker 2 (01:11:43):
I just don't care. I just don't care. Yeah, if
you've never seen the interview, again, it's not really an interview.
It's like a mon a lot. Yeah, I'm engaged with
I begged, basically begged. Brian Tho reposted he had interviewed
everybody on the planet, literally everybody in this building except
for me, and I beg you. Well, it's gotten good ratings.
(01:12:07):
It is.
Speaker 11 (01:12:08):
Yeah, a few people watched a few few people. I'm
pretty sure think Denise watching a few times too.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
She did. By the way, we have a no hitter
alert going on right now.
Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
Why are you jinxing stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Valdez as a no hitter through six for the Astros
against the Twins, so we'll keep your eye on that no.
And again, if he is taken, he's only thrown sixty
five pitches.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
Oh that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
Yeah, that's pretty good. He's got a chance.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
So Sandra, Mikalynn, thank you for listening. She agrees with you,
She says, I'm with Steve. I live in the Midwest
and the Lakers are a snoozefest for us. The Laker
name great subject. If we're talking about the past.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
Right, the Lakers greatness is in its pasty. So she
agreed to the past. Think about this. The Lakers and
Celtics played the seven game series in the twenty ten
NBA Finals. That's fourteen years ago. That sounds so the
Lakers have been to the finals once since then in
(01:13:04):
a bubble, and the Celtics now have been to the
finals twice.
Speaker 4 (01:13:08):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
The difference is the Lakers won in the bubble and
the Celtics lost, and now they have a chance to win.
But if again, I don't know what the statute of
limitations is, you know, in terms of how long you
still can ride the wave of the past before you
have fallen into irrelevance. But if you've only won one
(01:13:29):
Bubble championship in fourteen years and in the last eleven years,
the last eleven years, the Lakers have completely missed the
playoffs seven times, have been eliminated in the first round twice.
That's nine of those eleven years, one run to the
(01:13:49):
conference finals a year ago where they got swept, and
then a championship in the Bubble. So if you're going
to question the Celtics relevance, I don't know how you
can't question in the Lakers relevance.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
Sure I to answer your question at the start of
that little monologue as Clippers fans Brian Finley and I,
I'm sure he's experienced it. The amount of times Laker
fans just throw the championships in our face, like even
though we've dominated the last decade.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
Were even year run?
Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
Fun how many championsis.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
There was an eleven year run that started before this
year in which we had the Clippers beat the Lakers
thirty six out of forty three games. Yes, thirty six
and seven. Yes, that is domination. It is domination.
Speaker 11 (01:14:37):
So you talk about the Lakers and those championships just
after the turn of the century, right with Kobe and Shack,
and from my recollection, a couple of those championships might.
Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
Need to be annulled. And let me tell you why,
because there happened to be an official that was working
some of those finals who got himself in trouble with gambling.
Tim donaghey.
Speaker 11 (01:14:59):
Yes, so that is why there to me has to
be an asterisk there because of those mishandlings from him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
And nobody's talking about that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
Brian Finley right now, breaking news records yourself. Put that
up because you're so right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
Okay, none of that's what's right. You can look who's
throwing the game for the Xers. I can crap all
over the current Lakers because that's what they've been. But
those Laker teams know they dominated. They didn't need any
help from Tim donneghey. All right, coming up on the others,
We've got much more on this matchup between the Celtics
and Mavericks. We're in the present. This is Fox Sports Saturday.
(01:15:35):
Steve Harvey montci Blanos here Fox Sports Saturday Live from
the Tyraq dot Com studios. All right, we interrupt this
conversation about the upcoming NBA Finals, which start I believe
in three months, right.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
We have plenty of time to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
We don't.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
We don't have to do it right now. We have
so much time.
Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
Unbelievable. It's a stupid They should have started at least tomorrow.
At least tomorrow the Mavericks. Yeah, Friday, Saturday off for
the Mavericks. Plenty of time, head to Boston game one, yep.
Not Sunday, not Monday, not Tuesday, not Wednesday, Thursday. I mean,
(01:16:16):
come on, can you remind me?
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
Can you send me a text on him?
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
I mean seriously, Oh, I completely forgot the NBA Finals round.
By the way, the voldas no hitters over.
Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
So eu Jing City immediately.
Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Well Imbervald cab Bay hits so the h Yeah, he
gave up a hit and he's done.
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitches. And
when you say, oh, there's a no hitter to watch,
I'm like, that's it, it's over. We're jigxed it. Just
a little stish.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
I wanted to give you an update, you know, no
hitter alert gone. All right, so we interrupt this not
for the no hitter alert we we interrupt this for
Caitlin Clark. We have to bring her back into the
conversation because of something that happened in today's game. By
the way, the Fever won today.
Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
They did their first home win.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
They're now two and eight correct on the season. And
Caitlin Clark did not have a good shooting day, but
she is a contributor to a win. But what happened
today that caught your eye.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
There was a do we have sound of the foul
Chris Kennity Carter who plays for the Chicago Sky. Yeah, okay,
let's just hear it, so you could hear what it
sounded like.
Speaker 5 (01:17:27):
Keannity Carter now with twelve points off the bench and
Dix on contact afterwards, so the knock away there for
Clark and then La from Boston as the officials are
gonna take a look at what's just transpired between.
Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
Carter and Clark. Okay, so I watched this video. You
showed it to me. Carter is yelling at Clark as
she approaches her and then gets an obvious flagrant. Did
she get tossed out of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
She did not get tossed out of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
You should have gotten toss out.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
It was a very cheap shot.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
Oh it was. It was over the top cheap shot.
But she was yelling at her, meaning that something had
to be said by Caitlyn. That's set her off.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
So that's just because someone's talking smack. You can't go
and take a teap but cheap shot.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
I don't know. Everyone's a little bit more different level
of sensitivity.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Well, Bill, what are we talking about?
Speaker 6 (01:18:23):
Kennedy was asked about this afterwards and it kind of
led to this range strange arrangement here here take a listen.
This was Kennedy Carter after the after the game.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
Apparently on the play before bumping in with Caitlyn.
Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
It seemed like she she turned to you a little
bit after the after the future.
Speaker 7 (01:18:38):
Kaitlyn Clark questions, did she say anything to you?
Speaker 10 (01:18:40):
I don't know what she said.
Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
What'd you say to her?
Speaker 10 (01:18:42):
I didn't say anything.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
I'm not answering Kaitlyn Clark question.
Speaker 6 (01:18:46):
You can hear at the end to her coach coming
in saying that's enough to not to like try to
push the the reporters away as well.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
Okay, well, we've been talking about this really all year long,
even as before she started a NBA career. With all
the attention that Caitlin Clark's been getting is there's a
lot of jealousy involved.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
It seems that way. It really does.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
But part of Kaitlyn Clark's game that made her, despite
her greatness, polarizing was the trash talking. Look At every
NBA player that ever played with Larry Bird will tell
you there was no bigger trash talker ever than Larry Bird.
The frustrating part to go against Larry Birder as he'd
(01:19:30):
back it up mm hmmmmm with all the trash, but
he was over the top. Even Larry Bird acknowledges trash talker.
So trash talking is one thing I don't know because
there was obvious anger, yes, frustration, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
But none of that makes it okay. And I'm not
saying like, don't be tough on Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
That's not what this is.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
It is a tough league, and you're gonna go and
you're gonna want to, you know, prove that you can
compete in that whatnot. But that was just a cheap
shot that just looked like nothing but envy and jealousy.
I don't care what Caitlin Clark said to you that
everybody's talking smack.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
All right, I'm glad you didn't get seriously hurt. No,
but you do understand that all this trash talking and
everything else is good.
Speaker 10 (01:20:19):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
In other words, all those critics of Caitlin Clark that
keep talking about how overrated she is or why she's famous,
it's helping the cause. Sure, yes, it makes her more famous.
Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:32):
We got much more on the other side, including some
NFL news. This is Fox Sports Saturday, doubling our fun
here on this Saturday bonus time for USh and uh.
We're taking full advantage once again, broadcasting live from the
ti rag dot com studios ty rag dot com. We're
gonna get you there. Undermatched selection, fast free shipping, phreros,
(01:20:53):
road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers ti rag
dot com, a little way tyre buying should be all right.
Coming up later in this hour, Adam Kaplan, our NFL insider,
is going to be joining us. And as our dear
from Mark Medina said earlier, the NFL owns the NBA
three hundred and sixty five days a year. And that's
(01:21:16):
from a guy that has covered the NBA for years.
So Bedina says, make no mistake about it. The NFL
owns the NBA three hundred and sixty five days a year.
So Adam Kaplan will join us, and then who's your daddy,
that's right, will make its triumphant return. That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
Oh already.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
So you surprised me with this segment a week ago, yes,
in which you guys manufactured questions that obviously I had
not seen in advance.
Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
And then I do my best, yeah, because you know,
everyone thinks you're a sports encyclopedia. Everyone you know hears
you and they're like, oh, he's so great. You think
you're everyone's daddy. And so we just you know, we
got to bring you back down to earth and work
out that well because you still knew the answers. But
you know, it's fine, it's fine. We'll try and we'll
(01:22:06):
try and stump you today.
Speaker 2 (01:22:07):
I did. I did check our x account. By the way,
you can follow us at Monzy bolanos So or at
Cannon Hartman. Yes, you were mentioning my hair a little
bit earlier, Beef, and I got this, uh from someone said, Hartman,
where's the rug even on the radio. That's right, It's
(01:22:31):
just that I sort of like my hair, my hair
in place.
Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
It doesn't move. Yeah, it's and it doesn't look like
there's anything in it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
No, it's draw it does.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
Yeah, it doesn't look like you have product in it?
Do you have product in it?
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
I sometimes I use a little spritzel spread some yeah,
little just sort of hold in place. Sure, yeah, but
you can't attest it is my hair.
Speaker 7 (01:22:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
Also like my my father has a head of hair
just like you, and it's all real and natural.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
So well, Steve, where did you get your hair plugs done?
It's actually well documented, so.
Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
I let's know it.
Speaker 5 (01:23:09):
I like this.
Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
I like this picture you, by the way, if you
if you don't follow us on x Twitter, if you
like to call it that, Monsey likes to post a
shot of us free show I do every week. My
expressions sort of speak for themselves. Yes, we did get
photo bombed here by Medina, so.
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
Right, which you'll join us later on. Yeah, double dipping
very much.
Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
All right. I want to talk a little bit about
Jason Tatum. Yayson, So, Jason Tatum who the Lakers said, Nah,
we'd rather have Lonzo Ball. How different you know, we
can talk about how different Clippers history would be if
Kawhi Leonard had not demanded to make the trip for
(01:23:52):
Paul George, and you would have shake Bill Alexander, who,
by the way, was second in the MVP voting. I
have Luca, by the way, if you had him on
the Clippers right now instead of Paul George.
Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
Yeah, very annoying thought.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Yeah yeah, Plus all those first round picks they gave up.
On top of all that, imagine how different the Lakers
have be right now if they had Jason Tatum.
Speaker 10 (01:24:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
So Tatum to me is still a little bit of
an enigma when you think about what we've seen in
recent years. You had Giannis win back to back MVP Awards,
and then the following year he broke through and won
an NBA Championship. And then he had the exact same
thing happened with the Jokich who won back to back
NBA Final MVP Awards and then the following year wins
(01:24:39):
the championship to validate I remember when Dirk Novitzky, you know,
all those great years he had had, he had been
an MVP, it had been an All Star, he was
a Hall of Famer, and then he finally was able
to break through and win that championship, and now you
have two perennial First Team All NBA B Luca's been
(01:25:00):
there five years in row, Tatum has been there three
years in a row, and whose ever team wins, it's
a validation for one of those two players. When I
watch Luca versus Tatum right now, I'm all Luca and
all acknowledge the fact that Jason Tatum is a better
(01:25:21):
defender than Luca. Luca is really a ball dominant offensive player.
I think defensively he seems to be showing a little
more effort. It's just not his thing. Tatum is a
better all around player. But it's going to be so
interesting with these two stars, who is going to be
the one that jumps out and takes this championship Because ultimately,
(01:25:46):
in order to have the Celtics, when Tatum has to
play big, he's got to be the better player. It's
not Jalen Brown. It's got to be Jason Tatum. Same
thing with Luca. It's not about Kyrie. Kyrie is accepted
his role. If the Mavericks are going to win this,
Luca has got to be the dominant force. I'm just
anxious to see how this is going to play out.
Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
I am too. I know I've picked the MAVs and
I think it's gonna be a close series, but I
would be really happy to be wrong, because that means
Jason Tatum, you know, got the chip, you're a fan
of Jason. I do like Jason Tatum. I think he
is really fun to watch, and to be honest, like
I like Luca, But Luca is so annoying when he's
constantly complaining to the refs. He is you talk about
(01:26:30):
trash Tome, Oh my god, he but it gets to
the point where it's like you are I've read people
on Twitter and X like people I don't know, just
fans of basketball that are like, it's getting harder and
harder to watch Luca because of how he complains and
how he just is constantly talking to the rest, which
we see Lebron do a lot. But obviously Lebron's been
in the league for twenty years, and I feel like Luca,
(01:26:52):
despite his annoyingness, you're still so amazed at what he does.
And part of it is because he just looks like
he shouldn't be that good. You look at Tatum, well.
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
I means like Joki, he's the same thing. He's slow,
he's very deliberate, Yes, but there's no wasted movement on
him at all for either one of those players.
Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
And obviously, I think Luca's basketball IQ is also top,
you know, off the charts. He's looking around, he's trying
to make the best play, not necessarily just score Tatum
on the better defender, like you said, maybe the better
all around player on paper. But I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
I give the edge to Luca in this, but it
would all change if, you know, we get to game seven, obviously,
but even like you know, game six, you know, where
the Celtics maybe have a chance to close out a
series and he hits the game winner, then that changes,
at least in my eye, it would change the dynamic.
(01:27:51):
Because I'm watching Jason Tatum. I wish he was a Laker,
not a Celtic. But it didn't happen. But he's had
opportunity and a lot of talk about this return to
the NBA Finals after the disappointing loss of the Golden
State Warriors. You know, the argument was, well, Golden State
had Steph and Clay Clay was coming off out of
(01:28:13):
basketball for two years. That was not the same Klay
Thompson that had won championships before Draymond was on the downside. Steph.
The Celtics were the better teams. But in that series,
Andrew Wagan showed up, like I said, and Tatum disappeared. Yeah,
disappeared in that series.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
And I think we all remember that. I think we
have not seen Tatum take over a crucial game. He
has taken over regular season games and that's awesome, but
he has not taken over an actual crucial NBA Finals
playoff game.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
And that's what separates the elite from the other guys.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
Yeah, in fact, do you think of Luca or you
think of Kyrie. It's like they have had those moments
so that I keep giving the edge to the mops,
I really do. I Tatum is great, you just have
not shown that you are as great.
Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
I mentioned the fact that it'd been nice to have
Jason Tatum as a Laker. You know, they're nice to
have Kyrie Irving as a Laker. And I'll blame myself
on this. I was I was like most people with
all the shenanigans coming from Kyrie, that he just a
(01:29:31):
me guy. Yeah, that he's not gonna He's not going
I mean the whole thing with the Nets, I mean
that just was a debacle. You know, the idea that
he was going to team with Kevin Durant and that,
I mean, that just never materialized, the fact that he
was unhappy with his role in a supportive role with Lebron,
(01:29:51):
and I just thought, okay, look and I'm acknowledging his
skill set is second to none in this league. Yeah, offensively,
he can do anything on the offensive end. Love his game.
It's a team sport and the idea that he has
bought in. And to watch him and Luca embrace after,
you know, defeating the Tea Wolves get into the NBA
(01:30:14):
Finals and even allowing Luca's never been there before, to
relish the moment. Although it was weird, Luca, this is advice.
No one embraces that conference championship trophy, Okay, nobody. I
will never forget one of the first years they gave
that thing out to the Lakers, and the Lakers actually
(01:30:35):
walked off the court and left it at the middle
of the court. They didn't actually take.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
It with them.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
In fact, I've asked people in the Laker organization. I've
seen all your Larry O'Brien trophies. Where are those conference trophies?
And no one has a colt. We're like, we're not sure,
we have no idea where they are.
Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
Wasn't it last year when the Heat won the East?
Speaker 2 (01:30:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
And then Jimmy Butler was like, no, I'm good. When
they were going to hand him the trophy and he's
He's like, no, I'll hold the real one. Obviously he
didn't get to hold the real one, but he also
felt the same what is that? What is that?
Speaker 10 (01:31:09):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:31:10):
But I.
Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
Kyrie, And I'll give Jason Kidd credit as well coaching
that team, Yes, but to see the genuine camaraderie, now
that's good word between Luca and Kyrie. I've never I've
never seen Kyrie with any teammate like this.
Speaker 1 (01:31:33):
I agree. I'm just as surprised as you are. I
thought Kyrie was selfish, a bit narcissistic, a bit MEMI me,
especially because he had already won. So I think that's
more of why you felt that way. And he's completely
proven us wrong. I some people think it's just a
(01:31:53):
facade that he hasn't actually changed. It's a business move.
But even if that's true, if i I'm an owner
of any NBA team, I'd be like, well, no, he
can do it, and may he could still be a
MEMI me guy, but he proved that he can still
do it. And so even if it is just fake
and it's a business decision, Kyrie has completely changed the
(01:32:16):
minds of not just me, but I think a lot
of people.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
Well, Mavericks fans are happy about it, that's for sure.

to NFL news. You know, like what NFL news? There
is always NFL news, and our insider Adam Kaplan will
join us. This is Fox Sports Saturday. It's obvious Mary
Mack has shown up. Have you know this a little
different when Chris is here? Steve Hartman, Montsey Belana's Fox
(01:33:06):
Sports Saturday. We're live from the tire Rack dot com studios.
Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
Do you know what this is?
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
I have no ca.
Speaker 1 (01:33:16):
I mean, this one's a little bit old, like it's
not it's not a song. Now it's Chris Brown.
Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Yeah, t I T pain de pain T pain all
right you are. I mean I know who Chris Brown is.
The names I know. I don't know their music, yes, yes,
the names I know. I know this name because he
so graciously joins us. Never there's never an off time
for the NFL. The NFL is a constant three hundred
(01:33:44):
and sixty five days a year. Our NFL insider Adam
Kaplan is joining us right now. Adam, I I was,
I was reading a story about Caleb Williams. Yeah, and
what a disaster. Yeah, I mean, there were all kinds
of exaggerations about, you know, through like six rate interceptions
(01:34:05):
and all this kind of stuff. And we talked about
this before the draft that, you know, just three years
ago in the twenty twenty one draft, he had five
quarterbacks in the first fifteen picks, four of which no
longer play for those teams. Crazy and now this year
shattered records, six quarterbacks and the first twelve picks, six
(01:34:25):
in the first twelve. Let's start with Caleb Williams, and
is what has been going on so far? Are there
any concerns about Caleb Williams And how dramatically do the
Bears think their offense is going to change with Caleb
(01:34:47):
Williams replacing Justin Fields.
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
Now, they're not worried. See Williams is learning a completely
new scheme. This is a West Coast offense. The terminology
is different than the scheme that he played in college,
specifically the one under Cliff Kingsbury at USC. It's completely different.
So he's got to learn a new terminology. It's got
to learn a new scheme. It's just different and it's
going to take some time. But you know, not only
(01:35:11):
will it take time, you know they don't really have
an experienced backup right now. They Taylor Tyson Baigen was
an undrafted free agent last year out of Shepherd who
made the rosters a third stringer. Brett Rippin the nephew
of Mark Rippon. He's kind of a journeyman. He's on
the roster in Austin read who was an unt directed
free agent. So it's not like they sign a veteran
just in case he's not ready. He's going to be
the quarterback day one. There's no competition.
Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
He's the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:35:33):
But and look, I get it. He definitely in their
ota says not look good. Then they got the mandatory camp.
In fact, folks, the mandatory camps around the National Football League,
about ten teams have them next week and then the
week after the rest of them have it, and then
they're off for the summer.
Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
Hi, Adam, Hell, let's continue with this quarterback time. What
is the latest in Denver with the quarterback competition between
Zach Wilson, Bonnicks, Jared's Didham. Is there a competition?
Speaker 4 (01:36:00):
I will look, they're saying it is. It's but bow
Knicks is going to be the quarterback day one. You know,
Jared Stinn's very well like because I understand by Sean Payton,
that's why he's there, who's an on director, who was
an unrestricted free agent last year signed away from the Raiders,
and they think he's got long term potential to be
a good backup for them. Zach Wilson, you know, you
(01:36:22):
need to have three quarterbacks a camp. He's the third,
But in the end it's going to be bow Knicks
who Sean Payton he doesn't technically have personal control, but
he's a lot of input. This is his quarterback for
this draft, he really wanted him. You know, Bo Knicks,
we should mention. I don't know how much we talked
about for the draft. You know, he was a transfer
out of Auburn, he really struggled at Auburn, revived his
career at Oregon, and you know, you look at him now,
(01:36:45):
he's going to get a real shot to be there
a long, long time.
Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
And this is his guy. Remember Sean Payton.
Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
This is this is a guy that if you look
at his career, he's really not developed a young quarterback.
He did a great job at Drew Brees, no question
about it, but he's never really he's never really worked
with a guy from beginning end who was a first
round pick and his guy. So this is going to
be an interesting marriage here going forward.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
Lamar Jackson had a big bounce back year and was
named the league's most valuable Player. Of course, he'd rather
forget that final game. I still don't know what Harbaugh's
game plan was for that game. It baffles me to
this day. I don't know what the Ravens were doing
in trying to have Lamar Jackson outpass Patrick Mahomes, which
(01:37:30):
is never going to happen. But now Lamar Jackson is
no showing at the OTAs. What's up with that? So
he's been working out on his own.
Speaker 10 (01:37:38):
That that was.
Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
I mean, they've been talking about it. Players have talked
about it. He's kind of reshaped his body. They don't
seem to be concerned about it. Yeah, it's it's it's
not And by the way, it's not mandatory anyway. The
mandatory camp is coming up here.
Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
But he's the leader of you, I know, contract. Let
me share you a quick story. Let's got his contract,
by the way. So I was down in San Diego
and your seau obviously was the big star of the
Chargers at the time, and Bobby Bether was the Hall
of Fame general manager, and Junior didn't show up at OTAs.
(01:38:12):
And so I'm there with my partner, Philly Billy Warrendell,
and we're out of the field and and Bobby Bether
invites us onto the field. Onto the field, he's like
and we're like, this is interesting, but you know, we
had a big time radio show locally, and so he
wanted us to you know, really voices frustration. The junior
(01:38:36):
was not there. So we we bought a hook line
and sinker, so we come on a radio show like yeah,
I mean, you know, if you're if you're the leader
of a team and your team is trying to get somewhere,
you need to be there. And guess what. Junior showed
up the next day. And by the way, the next
day when we showed up, we thought, hey, we're pretty good.
So we started walking on the field or like where
are you going? Oh, we were on the field yesterday,
(01:38:59):
and it was it's like, oh, now I get it.
We served our purpose. Bethard used us to get the
word out that he needed to show up once that
was done. So, I mean, I guess that would be
the question there, like you're you're the leader of this
team and you're frustrated by a disappointing AFC championship game
and you want to get to that next level and
(01:39:21):
everyone's there and your quarterback's not. It would be a
bigger story.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
If he was up for a new contract, then it'd
be a major story because then you know, you kind
of see what he's doing here. But he's got his
contract and he's not shure up to voluntary stuff. I
always say voluntary for the younger players, you better show
up for the veterans like Jackson. Yeah, it would be
nice if you showed up, considering it's only your second
year in the offense. It's to me, it's it's not
a really big deal, But I'm curious when he comes
(01:39:48):
to camp what his explanation will be. And look sometimes,
and this has happened talking to coaches the last couple
of weeks. A lot of guys take care of personal business.
I don't know why they don't do this in January, February, March,
whenever the season's over, but a lot of them take
care of personal business. Players come in and out. Some
guys show up for two days and leave. It's kind
of weird.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Now, I don't know what.
Speaker 4 (01:40:08):
I don't know if he's got a workout bonus because
he if he does, he's not getting it now, not
that he really needs at this point because of the
kind of money he's making.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
Overall.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
That's why you see some guys show up to the
voluntary because if they they're on a deal where let's say,
only make a four million and the workout bonus is
seven or fifty thousand, they're showing up.
Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
So let's check in on the Dolphins here, Adam. They
just gave Waddle a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
Yea.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
What is going to happen with Tua on the final
year of his rookie contract.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
Yeah, this is a tough one because this is their guy.
You know, they made a decision. They were taking him
over justin Herbert of course, Greer, the GM you made
the call. And I don't know if you recall this,
but Brian Flores was not the former head coach, was
not a big to a fan, didn't kind of hide
his displeasure. And Flora's obviously long gone. He's doing good
jobs defense coordinated for the Vikings, but this one has
(01:41:02):
not gone kind of the way probably too it hoped
they have negotiated, as I understand it, they have talked,
they've they've kind of gone over ideas what this thing
might look like. But it's no longer. You know, he's
built his body up by the way, he's done a
good job of doing that. But his injury history is.
Speaker 10 (01:41:19):
What it is, and this is it.
Speaker 4 (01:41:22):
There's no And another thing is with these quarterback deals,
it's kind of like you got to be in the
fifty to fifty two million a year range for that's
the bottom of them. Now, your Jalen Hurts and others
are the young quarterbacks who got their deals. That's that's
around where it's got to be. Dolphins, so far as
I understand, aren't there. And now again we're just we
just did June, right Treig Camps don't start to till
(01:41:43):
late July, and clubs don't like their star quarterback. We
can debate whether he's the start, but their starting quarterback
to have to deal with this in season. It would
be a minor upset if they don't figure out a
resolution to this one way or the other. But he's
got to be their guy. They made a significant investment
in him, and you just mentioned Jalen Wadham. And by
the way, they got to take a look at Tyree
(01:42:04):
Hill's contract. I know this sounds crazy, but is actually
outdated now. And that's another one who's going to be
certainly a Hall of Famer someday at this pace.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
All right, one final question your quarterback related the hypothetical
the Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready for a wild card
playoff game. Who is their starting quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:42:27):
Oh, well, it's Russell Wilson's the un questions starting quarterback
now if they get in.
Speaker 2 (01:42:32):
Yeah, all right, who is the quarterback at the end
of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:42:36):
Not I'm gonna say Russell Wilson. So I'm gonna give
you I'm gonna bring it inside a conversation, Steve. I
didn't know if you're going there, but I'm going to
bring up a conversation. So talking to someone in the
front office, I don't know, like three weeks ago, I
just said, you know, I want another thought process of
bringing Wilson, as I was not criticizing the decision.
Speaker 2 (01:42:51):
I just want to know what they thought.
Speaker 4 (01:42:53):
And they thought he was such a clear upgrade over
what they had obviously with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph,
and you know, I couldn't disagree with that. But my
thought process was, well, I get that he's an upgrade,
but shouldn't you aspire for something better, something at the
next level, and that that's kind of like where this person.
I just didn't agree that they're trying to take the
(01:43:14):
next step.
Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
I get that.
Speaker 4 (01:43:15):
And we know Mike Tomlin has not had an under
five hundred record, but he also has not one of
the playoff games. It's twenty seventeen, but you know, justin
fields is very gifted, but he's just he's got issues
with akasheing and processing and so forth.
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
It's you got to get past that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:43:31):
And so to move this forward here and answer your question,
it's going to be Russell Wilson as far as they
want to go. And this offense does fit him well
in that it's super run based. This offense will start
and end with a run game. They're not their goals
not to put a lot on him, and that's we'll
see if that happens. But with that defense and that
the run game, that probably will be the case.
Speaker 2 (01:43:51):
Russell Wilson Roddiham to the end, at least at the
end of this season. All right, Well, Adam, I knew
we'd race through a lot of different topics in a
very short amount of time and stuff. Thanks so much. Adam,
will check in with you next week. Thank you, Adam
Kaplan our Fox Sports Radio NFL Insider. All right, let's
find out what is trending right now? And well, this
man has been here a great portion of the day
(01:44:13):
and I have apparently is not leaving any time soon.
Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
No who leaves here? Do any of us leave?
Speaker 9 (01:44:19):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:44:19):
I mean, Steve, you're here at least five hours before
every one of your shows. Well, I like to sort
of get into game mode. You know, what does game
mode look like for you? Pasting people that are sitting
in your seat nice, you know, and just talking and
I just got I get warmed up talking, even if
it's to myself, and then I get ready for the show.
Speaker 11 (01:44:42):
Do you ever talk to yourself all driving by yourself
in the car as far as a monologue preparing for
a show.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Well, as you know, I have been residing in the
Phoenix area now Monday through Friday, so now I have
six hour drives each way every week. There's nothing that
is more glorious in a six hour drive with me
the sound of your voice, well, the thought of my
voice in my head, because again, when I'm by myself,
everything I'm thinking about is interesting. There's never anything that
(01:45:10):
I think about in my solitaire state that isn't interesting
to me. So I could stats or whatever I've got
rolling through my head for those people who.
Speaker 11 (01:45:20):
Are maybe driving on the freeway right now in Los
Angeles or listening in other markets. What even when you
think it's interesting, what could say somebody outside of you
think is interesting that which you think is interesting when
you're by yourself.
Speaker 2 (01:45:34):
M that's a great question.
Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
You're stumping him already.
Speaker 2 (01:45:39):
Well, going to say, I'm trying to make I trying
to say something that's thoughtful here, no words. I don't
want to dismiss what other people are saying to me,
because people do have some very interesting things to say
to me. But none of them are more interesting than
what I'm thinking. Yeah, none of them are as good
as what you're saying. I'm not saying that. There's people
(01:46:01):
that are way smarter than I am about a lot
of different subjects. It's just that it's hard to find
those stay. I stay with my bread and butter. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
for sure. And there's certain things I do know that
I feel like I almost stand alone. Well, and I
think Monts. I think we're going to find that out
next segment exactly. Yeah, who's your dady? Yeah, who's your daddy?
(01:46:22):
Looking forward to that conversation.
Speaker 11 (01:46:24):
Kaitlin Clark, by the way, she had her game speak
for itself on the floor today, four of eleven from
the field, and she lays the Indiana Fever to the
first home win of the year. Over this time the
Chicago Sky seventy one to seventy eleven points, eight, rebound six,
a shit six. It's just and yeah, that was a
little bit closer. I was a little closer than they
(01:46:45):
probably wanted to there. So I think you guys, I
think we've all had one of those. We've all had
one of those anyway, So you know, I go right
exactly when you're.
Speaker 2 (01:46:57):
In the talking profession. Stuff happened all the time.
Speaker 11 (01:47:01):
Maybe, So anyway, Major League Baseball, let's go over there
and the San Diego Padres have a six to three
lead against the Kansas City Royals. That's in the top
of the ninth Padres no U Darvish, no Joe Musgrove.
They're both on the fifteen day il and Darbish's left
groin strain in Musgrove is the right elbow inflammation situation there,
(01:47:21):
so they're not going to be able to be participating
in a game anytime soon. Oakland A's have a ten
to nine lead into the eighth inning against the Atlanta Braves.
The Cleveland Guardians three to two. They're in front of
the Washington Nationals. That's in the ninth inning. A six
to three win for the Boston Red Sox against the
Detroit Tigers. We also saw an earlier win for the
(01:47:42):
Pittsburgh Pirates as they went into Toronto and got a victory.
That would be eight to one the final score against
the Blue Jays. Also the Astros five to two winners
against the Twins. Meantime, the NHL there game six out
East is theatern Conference Finals. It's Rangers and Panthers that
tonight at eight Eastern and Florida has a head in
(01:48:02):
the best of seven series three games to two. Third
round of the RBC Canadian Open as part of the
PGA Tour, and it is the Ben Griffin Show as
he has sole possession of the lead and he has
been shooting up the leader board six hundred today through
seventeen hole, so he is on eighteen with eleven under
over the three rounds of competition. Mackenzie Hughes, Ryan Fox
(01:48:25):
and Robert McIntyre are all one shot off the pace
at ten under. And lastly, Real Madrid wins two nil
over dortmun to take the Champions League title. So I
know we'll have a lot of a breakdown on that
in our number five of the show.
Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
Yes, this is a marathon, twenty four hours of us,
but that's okay.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
With anyone could do it. I think we can twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Hours of plenty of that. Don't give the bosses any ideas.
So not a bad idea that you and I would
for like an hour. Only a beef was doing updates
for all twenty four years.
Speaker 10 (01:49:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:49:03):
Well, you know when you work with somebody like yourself,
who is the human incarnate of the human hamster wheel,
then you can do anything.
Speaker 5 (01:49:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:49:11):
Well, that's the way. I believe you caffeinate my day.
Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
You caffeinate my day. Put that in a card. I
know that's cute.
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
I'll have to look that aut side. Thank you very much.
Be Fa Bryant family right there. What a banger that was.
Once again, Steve Hartman Montson Bill on you knows here
we have Fox Sports Saturday and we're a live from
the tire rack dot Com studios. I wanted to take
a moment here to talk about the passing of Bill Walton.
Bill Walton, obviously one of the great basketball players of
(01:49:39):
all time, passed away earlier in the week from cancer.
He did not want to make it public how sick
he had been. He did not participate in the PAC
twelve tournament broadcast because of illness, but he had been
sick for a while. I got to know Bill really
well when he was trying to get his broadcast career starting.
(01:50:02):
He had a stuttering problem while he was at UCLA,
while he was playing in the NBA. He had a
lot to say, just had a hard time overcoming it,
and people worked with him, A lot of very famous
people worked with him. But he wanted to get on
the air and try to sort of you know, you
got to get on the air and try it out.
In our very early days of six ninety, the legendary
(01:50:24):
six ninety, the first all sports station on the West Coast,
he would I would co host shows with him, and
we obviously had the bond of going to UCLA, and
in fact, we used to sort of rib each other
on who's the bigger honk for UCLA. Bill was. I mean,
it's it's an overused term original, but I mean there
(01:50:50):
was only one Bill Walton. There will never be another
Bill Walton. The Bill Walton that you saw so many
times on television, the goofy guy with the tied I shirts.
He was a deadhead, I mean, and that was Bill Walton.
He presented himself in a way that was Bill Walton,
and that's why he got away with a lot of
(01:51:12):
things that other broadcasters would not. The team that actually
gave him the first opportunity to do it was the Clippers. Yeah,
and the longtime legendary voice of the Clippers, Ralph Lawler,
was the perfect guy to work with a guy like
Bill Walton, because you know, the thing I learned early
on in my first Loose Cannon partner, Chet forty, was
(01:51:32):
I had no control over him, so I needed to
figure out how to work around him. And that was
what it was like working with Bill Walton. You're not
gonna He's not going to follow any rules, So if
you're going to work with him, you've got to sort
of let him be him. And Ralph was really the
first that had that opportunity and he did it great.
Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
I love Ralph and he just could work with anybody.
He had his own quirkiness. But you know, Bill, he
I didn't know him as a player. I just sometimes
would watch him and Ralph and I would forget that
I was actually going to watch a basketball game. It's
like I would more tune in because I wanted to
see they're back and forth for just a little bit.
You forgot, you know, and I always thought that he
(01:52:16):
was so funny, that they were funny together. But the
best part really has been that since his passing, everyone
has come out and said he was exactly who you
thought he was. And I think that's the most beautiful thing,
because so many people out there are fake. They're not
actually what you see on screen, they're pretending to be that.
But everybody has said he was exactly what you thought
(01:52:39):
he was.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
I always think I also felt it was almost ironic that,
you know, when he would do the PAC twelve games
nationally for ESPN and even for the network, he was
always the you know, the Conference of Champions. He was
always you know, talking up the PAC twelve and the
fact that he would pass away two days after the
(01:53:01):
final Pack twelve tournament ever, was the baseball tournament Arizona
with the walkoff went against USC and two days later
Bill Walton passes after essentially the passing of the PAC twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:53:15):
Yeah no, that's that makes me want to throw up
because that's so crazy, Like that's so weird. It's like
when Vin Scoli passed away after the Dodgers and the
Giants finished there, yeah series, you know, and then Tommy
Lisorda passing away after we won that, you know, Bubble
twenty twenty. Like it's just crazy when it happens like that,
because it's like it was in a weird way, meant.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
To be exactly that was the case. But a sweetheart
of a man, always had enthusiasm. He went through a
lot of physical problems.
Speaker 7 (01:53:45):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
The people have questioned a lot, and even I've been
one of them.
Speaker 10 (01:53:49):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
He's named to the all time fiftieth Anniversary team in
the NBA recently of all time seventy fifth anniversary. He
essentially had three years. His first two years in Portland,
he was heard than the third year they win the championship.
His fourth year they were off to a fifty in
ten start and he got hurt. Still was named the
league's MVP that year. And then of course he eventually
(01:54:10):
ended up with the Clippers, where he was just hurt constantly.
And then he ends up with the Celtics on a
great team with Bird and McHale and Parish and he
was six Man of the Year. He only played about
nineteen minutes a game. You know, did they need him?
You know, but I mean they appreciated the kind of
player he was. Everyone did because he was a constantant
(01:54:31):
team player. You talk about basketball IQ, his was literally
off the charts. But he just couldn't put that body
together and he overcame a lot. He had back problems
that were serious for years, and I remember talking to
him and it was it was bad. And then he
had this huge, amazing surgery done on his back that
really allowed him to enjoy the rest of his life.
(01:54:52):
So he didn't get cheated in life. I promise you
that it's young seventy one, but he lived every second
of it. And that ESPN feature they recently did on him,
if you haven't seen it, watch it.
Speaker 7 (01:55:04):
It is it.
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
It really captures what Bill Walton was all about. All
time legendary person, more than even a basketball player. All right,
coming up on the other side, who's your daddy?
Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
Who's your daddy?
Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
Well find out? This is Fox Sports Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:55:25):
It is Fox Sports Saturday. I am Montyolanos with mister
Steve Hartman, and we are coming to you live from
the TIREC dot Com studios, and it is time for
our new favorite segment where we try to stump this
sports encyclopedia. Daddy, what are we playing. What are we doing?
Mary mac.
Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:55:53):
This is a segment.
Speaker 2 (01:55:57):
Everybody told your friend you're at it. Yeah, let's go
mah's your daddy.
Speaker 1 (01:56:03):
And show Yes, this is the segment where we try
to stump Steve Hartman because it's very difficult to do that.
So I'm gonna start. But also Patrick has a question
for you, has a question. But I'm gonna start things off.
Speaker 2 (01:56:16):
All right out THEO what was going on?
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
I didn't Mary mad him music questions. So if you
can think of a question, but music is gonna stump him,
so you can think of a ques.
Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
It depends her. Music is gonna you.
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
Know, that's that's the only reason. But if girl feel free,
feel free? All right, here we start. Who were the
last three guards to win Defensive Player of the Year
in the NBA?
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
The last three guards to win Defensive Player of the
Year guards?
Speaker 1 (01:56:44):
Guards?
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
Mm mmmmmm that's a good one. Let's see here. Let
me let me go back a little, go ahead, go ahead,
go ahead, dare I say Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (01:57:00):
Ding ding ding ding Yep, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:57:08):
He was not a guard. He was not a guard. Guard.
Guard was Ron Artesta guard?
Speaker 6 (01:57:15):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:57:16):
No, okay, so no, Ron. Wow, this is this is
one that's really it's gonna get me because I'm I'm
terrible on more recent stuff. Let's see, who would be
a recent guard to win?
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
Uh So the last one was in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 2 (01:57:33):
I know that it was two years ago. And why
is his name escaping me right now?
Speaker 10 (01:57:39):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:57:39):
See, that's that's where that's where you're gonna always get
me when it's recently. Uh, it wasn't Drew Holiday, No,
it was uh.
Speaker 1 (01:57:50):
He was he was a Celtic at the time.
Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
I know he was a Celtic. I know he's thinking it.
His name is just literally escaped my head. You're not
the It's not Jalen Brown. It's not Jalen Brown. I
mean it's uh.
Speaker 12 (01:58:06):
I see what you did there, Moncie.
Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
I tried. I tried.
Speaker 2 (01:58:09):
Why is his name escaping me? Who is it? Brogden?
Speaker 10 (01:58:14):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:58:14):
It was?
Speaker 10 (01:58:15):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
Who am I missing?
Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
Why are you not the smartest one right now?
Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
I don't know, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (01:58:19):
I tried twice.
Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
That's the twice, all right, I gotta go to the
other one. Let's see here, I'm gonna go to the
one prior to this is taking way too much time.
I'm going to have to give up on this one
because I don't want to use too much time.
Speaker 1 (01:58:31):
All right, all right, we have to we got to type.
The one in the middle was nineteen ninety six.
Speaker 2 (01:58:35):
If you wanted to get oh that's Gary Peyton.
Speaker 5 (01:58:37):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (01:58:40):
Yes, why can't I think of like two years ago?
Speaker 1 (01:58:43):
Give up?
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
I do?
Speaker 1 (01:58:45):
Marcus Smart?
Speaker 2 (01:58:45):
Marcus, Marcus Smart. Let's go why Marcus smartest? Name escaping me?
Said the smartest twice?
Speaker 1 (01:58:52):
I did. I was like, why are you not the
smartest one right now?
Speaker 2 (01:58:54):
I have just sometimes the name escapes me?
Speaker 1 (01:58:57):
But okay, so good, Patrick, come on in.
Speaker 12 (01:59:00):
Okay, so Steve, we we all know out of the
park home runs are a big thing in a rare
feat well Dodger Stadium, being we are based in LA
I got a couple for you. Yeah, there are five
guys that have been to Dodger Stadium that have actually
hit an out of the park home run? Can you
name five of them? I'll even give you a hint.
(01:59:20):
One of them did it twice in different years.
Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
Yeah. Well, the guy that did it twice in different
years is Willy Stargells. So we know that one that
is correct. Piazza hit one out of the park.
Speaker 12 (01:59:33):
Ye. There's three other guys that have hit it out
of the park completely, yes, and during during games. I'm
not going to count Ronald Acunya. We're not counting that Derby.
Speaker 2 (01:59:42):
No, okay, So Starguar for years was the one guy
that did it.
Speaker 12 (01:59:46):
That was the that was the guy that you said
times too, so you got you got the two for yeah,
and Piazza one, so yeah, I know you got them.
Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
There are three more guys, three more guys that hit
it out in a hint too.
Speaker 10 (01:59:58):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (01:59:58):
One of these guys was all from the nineties. These
other two were in the twenty tens in closer, more recent.
Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
And that's clearing the pavilion. Yeah, clearing the pavilion. Wow,
let's see here.
Speaker 11 (02:00:11):
I'm just.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
I'm not feeling this one either. The nineteen nineties guy
is the one I'm trying to think about here. Ninety nine.
By the way, ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:00:21):
Nine, we've been have to finish this on the other side, I.
Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
Guess we're gonna have We're gonna have to These are
really good questions, but times up, We're gonna continue on
this as Fox Sports Saturday. Oh, having a good time
here On another Big Sports Saturday, Fox Sports Saturday, broadcasting
live from the tire rag dot com studios. Tier rag
dot com. We're gonna help get you there on a
matched selection, fast free shipping, free road hats, a protection
(02:00:47):
over ten thousand recommend an installers, tire rag dot com
the way tire buy and should be. Mark Mendena is
gonna be joining us a little bit later in the hour.
Our NBA in Saturday was on with Dan Bayer today
and get his thoughts. I'm gonna ask him the question
that about Dan's claim that the Lakers are the most
relevant team in the NBA. Would you agreed with that?
Speaker 5 (02:01:11):
I did?
Speaker 2 (02:01:12):
I just think we I am like sure, all right.
So we are in the midst of who's your daddy?
So far daddy's not having a good day.
Speaker 1 (02:01:21):
Daddy's not having a good day.
Speaker 2 (02:01:22):
But it's all right, all right? So the question Patrick,
you had a question again about those players that have
hit a fair ball at a Dodger stadium.
Speaker 12 (02:01:30):
Five players and then one I was saying, was it
hit it twice? You got that it was in fact
Willie Stargell.
Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
Right, And then I had Mike Piazzu my only Dodger
over to do it. Yes, So you know, I'm sitting
here and I and as soon as you said the
year nineteen ninety nine, a name obviously came to mind
that I got to think is right as Mark Maguire.
That's correcting. So now the other two guys you said
(02:01:57):
are playing now. Yeah, And actually, as we were sitting here,
I was thinking, okay, I know one of these because
it happened not that long ago. Correct, that is correct,
and that is Fernando Tak.
Speaker 5 (02:02:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:02:09):
We didn't even really talk like he didn't want.
Speaker 5 (02:02:11):
Me to know.
Speaker 2 (02:02:15):
She I mean, she told me it was like recent
and then all of a sudden that hit me, uh,
you know, because suddenly the Podres Dodgers rivalry of whatever
it is hit the other guy. Yeah. So I'm thinking,
like guys that you know, big time home run hitters,
right of course, And I'm sure this guy is that
he is.
Speaker 12 (02:02:36):
It's not like this random who is this guy?
Speaker 2 (02:02:39):
It's a big boy. I seem to think. I seem
to think I remember this, but I don't. But I'm
because he's on a different team now than he was.
You're getting you're getting warmer, you're hitting very warm, if
that if that is correct, then I'm gonna guess, go
for it. Who is it Jean Carlos Stanton? Oh my god,
(02:03:06):
that he was with the Marlins at the time. Oh man,
you wow, he's not winning yet, Mary Mack, he's not
winning yet. He's a winner.
Speaker 1 (02:03:19):
No, no, we got more.
Speaker 2 (02:03:20):
We got.
Speaker 1 (02:03:22):
I can't believe you pulled that one. I cannot.
Speaker 2 (02:03:25):
Well, I just like that. He was cooking it up
right now here. Here's here's the thing. So when you
asked me a question, as I try to explain, I
have a Rolodex sort of brain, and so I'm in
these some of them are just immediately I know the
answer to. I mean again, completely forgetting Marcus Smart ever
(02:03:45):
lived des faite. You came to say, Gui, there's a
smart answer, Harry, and I'm completely gone Blake. So yeah,
all right, the clues helped me on that one.
Speaker 1 (02:03:54):
Yes, all right, mister Brian, all right, I got a
good one for you here.
Speaker 11 (02:03:58):
Steve so Well, who was Randy Moss's high school basketball teammate,
said teammate would spend many years in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (02:04:13):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (02:04:17):
I was hoping you were gonna say, like, who is
in cornerback at Marshall and I said, Chad Pennington, But
that didn't happen high school because I remember they did
that feature piece on him. You remember on ESPN. But
who was his high school teammate? Geez? Let me know
when you want a little bit of a clue. Yeah,
(02:04:39):
I'm gonna probably need one. Yeah, jogg on my mind.
I'm trying because I saw that piece when I'm trying
to this player. If you're looking for a clue, I'll
give you one, a small clue. Would play some college
basketball at Florida some and then went right to the NBA. Well,
(02:05:03):
I think he transferred there, transferred to Florida. So I'm
trying to think of a timeline here. So Randy Moss
will be ninety eight the late nineties to the Florida.
Speaker 11 (02:05:21):
I can tell you who he was drafted by or
where he would start his career Sacramento Kings.
Speaker 2 (02:05:29):
Now it drops the pen No, No, I'm dropping the
pin because I wasn't going to go there, So I
don't have this one. Beefen Jason Williams, sh we got him.
Let's go.
Speaker 11 (02:05:44):
Jason Williams in a Randy Moss were on the same
high school basketball team.
Speaker 2 (02:05:48):
Why I remembered that.
Speaker 1 (02:05:51):
Oh no, you're Ryan's a daddy.
Speaker 2 (02:05:53):
You're a daddy. Now, Benley is daddy.
Speaker 11 (02:05:55):
I'm about to get married. I better wait until I
get married before that happens.
Speaker 2 (02:05:59):
Hey you are Yeah, you're a daddy. Now, congratulations, thank you?
That is that is a great one. It's been a
long time, so I saw that. But how would I
not remember? Jason Williams. You go on YouTube, you'll still
have highlights of those two throwing up all loops for
each other. Pretty pretty cool. Well, congratulations, Beefin. So now
(02:06:21):
you're my daddy? Yeah, my dad.
Speaker 11 (02:06:23):
Well, now that you're my daddy, what kind of allowance
are you? I'm giving you a buck fifty five. You
got to take the trash out or.
Speaker 2 (02:06:34):
That my dad gave me. He gave me twenty five
cents a week. He also puts cigarettes out on your neck,
didn't he whatever is necessary to keep me in line.
Mary Max, do you have a question? Do you want
to be my daddy?
Speaker 10 (02:06:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
You want to get in on this.
Speaker 13 (02:06:50):
I think I'm a little bit too young. Give me
like a couple of years, give me a couple of
give me a couple of five minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:06:55):
I got one more, I got one more.
Speaker 2 (02:06:56):
Okay, I got one quick one all right?
Speaker 1 (02:06:58):
In nineteen eighty nine. Yeah, this player had the most
rushing yards to go along with twelve touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (02:07:03):
Nineteen eighty nine, the most rushing yards in the NFL.
And the answer is my dear friend, Christian Nakoye.
Speaker 1 (02:07:11):
That is correct. Do you remember his nickname the Nigerian Nightmare?
This is all correct.
Speaker 2 (02:07:19):
By the way, he barely beat out the rookie Barry
Sanders for the rushing title in nineteen eighty nine. Christiannakoy
h there we go.
Speaker 11 (02:07:26):
Go.
Speaker 2 (02:07:27):
But he's a friend of mine, so that's that I'm
supposed to know that I was trying to be random.
He's one of the most amazing people I've ever met.
He had the greatest combine of anyone in the history
of the game. He went to a ZUUSA Pacific and
became an NFL star. Wow, And if adamins for some injuries,
he could have been one of the old time greats.
Speaker 13 (02:07:45):
But yes, ooh, okay, twenty sixteen NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Speaker 2 (02:07:53):
Who won? Who won in twenty sixteen? Twenty sixteen? Yeah,
that would be Villanova, damn it. Yeah, I know because
they beat with Carolina on the fine.
Speaker 1 (02:08:03):
I tried, no you did.
Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
That's also that was my favorite. One was like, no,
so really the only one I can hit up full
time for any kind of benefits as his son is
Brian family. Well we look like we kind of look
like each other. Very similar, Yeah, very similar. I wish
I have your hair at your age. Your hair is
your your hair, You have hair. I mean everyone has
(02:08:26):
hair at my age. Well, you're not my age yet.
Not No, I'm laugh your age. The guy that always
gives me grief is Ilo. Ilo is like, how is
this possible? Yeah, you're like thirty years older. You guys
have when I listen to you and Ilo talk, you
two have like this. You guys seen the movie step Brothers.
Speaker 1 (02:08:46):
Yeah, it's it's like you guys have this little step.
Speaker 2 (02:08:49):
Brother's vibe going this friction, this sibling friction with one another. Well,
first of all, I have to understand this. It was
my life's mission. Early on when he came fresh out
of you Us, he highly touted Isaac glowing crime to
cure his virginity. I mean that was that was That
(02:09:14):
was my life's mission for many years, for many years,
many years, because we traveled a lot and so I was.
I was doing everything that was humanly possible to cure
him of his virginity.
Speaker 1 (02:09:28):
He poor.
Speaker 2 (02:09:29):
Now he's a proud father of too, so I think
that I helped cure him. But I mean, but in
those days, yeah, he was. He was a little wet
behind the ears. Well for somebody, like if people would
know what you do, put in the show what I do. Yeah,
I'm like everybody else. They're all seeking love. That's all
(02:09:50):
we're doing. Yeah, love and acceptance. So there you go,
all right, Well that was good. I like that. I'm
embarrassed by the Marcus smart and uh and honestly, I
I should have remembered the Jason Williams went, So there
you go, all right? Everything else was okay, Yeah, I
know you did.
Speaker 1 (02:10:05):
You still did pretty good. You still did pretty not bad,
not bad, not bad.
Speaker 2 (02:10:09):
Today, we obviously have been trying to figure out why
it is that the NBA Finals doesn't start until Thursday.
Why is it not starting tomorrow? I don't know, it
just seems so logical. And then and again the idea
that you have to plan and advance the dates why why,
I mean, I'm by the way, this this whole TNT
(02:10:32):
thing did you did you watch after the Mavericks eliminated
the Tea Wolves. This was the last TNT you know
with Charles and Ernie and Kenny and Shack Show of
the year, and according to all accounts, they've only got
one more year life.
Speaker 1 (02:10:50):
Yeah, it seems like that's what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (02:10:52):
That even if tn T is not caring games, they
are going to have their NBA show, which is the draw.
I've said this a few times in my years of
watching sports, there's only three broadcasters personalities that you would
(02:11:19):
watch regardless of the game. In other words, most guys
are you know, you watch, and maybe you appreciate their talent,
but that's not the reason you're watching the game. You're
watching the game because of the game. Early on in
Monday night football, Howard Cosell was must watch. He was
(02:11:39):
the most polarizing person in America. You either loved him
or he hated him, so he would be one. The
second one was John Madden. You just Madden was so
unique in everything he did that you couldn't you wanted
to hear John Madden, which is, by the way, why
he'd broadcast on all four major networks. The third person
(02:12:01):
is Charles Barkley. I mean, Charles Barkley is bigger than
the NBA.
Speaker 1 (02:12:07):
He is a national treasure.
Speaker 2 (02:12:09):
And you you start a hang on every word he
has to say. Some are astute, some are ridiculous. It
doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (02:12:17):
He has that.
Speaker 9 (02:12:19):
I just.
Speaker 2 (02:12:20):
And with the Ernie Johnson, who's a pros pro, and
Kenny Smith and Shack, I mean, it just it works.
It works so well. It's so hard to put a
broadcast team together that really clicks consistently. And I know
that I would literally watch them even if I didn't
watch the game they were doing.
Speaker 1 (02:12:43):
Yeah, it's really unfortunate because you're not going to replicate this. No,
you're not even gonna.
Speaker 2 (02:12:47):
Get You need to bring them all together. You tell
the thing about it is Ernie Johnson since he's not
going to leave. Well he's been tied to forever.
Speaker 7 (02:12:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:12:57):
Yeah, he's in his late sixties, you know, and so
he doesn't want to leave. And I don't know if
anybody else would feel comfortable stepping in his shoes. I
wouldn't exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:13:08):
And it's just it's not gonna be the same. It's
almost like the conversation of do you keep it going
without Ernie, It's like, no, it's not the same thing.
You're not gonna get the same effect. You're not going
to replicate anything like this, And it's gonna it's gonna
be very sad when it comes to an end. And
because it looks like it is coming to the end.
Speaker 2 (02:13:27):
Enjoy it. I can't. We got one more year with
those guys.
Speaker 1 (02:13:31):
Uh, watch parties. Everybody watch parties.
Speaker 2 (02:13:33):
I don't know, man I whoever takes if NBC takes
over all the NBA. Look, I'm by the way. On
the other side, speaking of broadcasting the NBA, there is
one story that just lingers unanswered in the NBA. We'll
tell you what it is. This is Fox Sports Saturday,
(02:13:55):
Steve Hartman, Mancia Bolanos Fox. It's Saturday. We're live from
the tairaq dot com studios. Remember this podcast is going
up right after the show. If you miss any of
today's show, check out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports
Radio wherever you get your podcasts, follow rate and review
(02:14:16):
the podcast. Again. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts. You'll see the show. Post it right
after we get off the air. So you are sporting
some new I AM shoes right here.
Speaker 1 (02:14:30):
Say I'm sporting some new shoes. I've had them for
a couple of weeks now and I had not worn them,
and then today I decided to wear them, which is
so weird because Bobo just walked in and he wanted
the same shoes and he complained about it on Twitter.
So I had to be like, look at my shoes.
I have the the kobegg shoes that just came out
(02:14:51):
not too long ago. I was able to get them
out of the Sneakers app, which you know, you live
and die by that app. It's the most annoying app.
It's like a shoe app that you try and you know,
get the shoes without having to overpay for them, just
retail price. And I got very lucky. I don't know
the shoe gods that day decided to bless me and
not Bobo because he not get them and I got
(02:15:13):
them and the details, you know, I just showed them
to their.
Speaker 2 (02:15:15):
Beautiful shoes are they are? You know? My my memory
of Gigi, as you know, I knew her father extremely
well because we did the Laker games for years and
we had a we had an interesting bond Kobe and I.
But it was game four of the playoff series between
the Lakers and Sons, and Kobe hits the game winner
(02:15:35):
to give the Lakers a three to one series lead,
and later that night his daughter is born, Gigi, and
so he didn't fly immediately with the team the next
day to Phoenix, and Victor Brick and I we were
with the Lakers at the Laker Hotel late on well,
(02:15:56):
it was the first May first, it was the night
before the game, and Kobe came in late, and you know,
he was all business and he he said, but you know,
we're congratulating him on the birth of his new daughter
and everything else. And then you know, unfortunately for the
Lakers and up lazing three straight games to blow that series.
(02:16:18):
But uh, yeah, that I'm happy to see that. You know,
her memory lives.
Speaker 1 (02:16:24):
Yeah, you know it's yeah, it's still like it's still
really is. It feels fresh right, like.
Speaker 2 (02:16:32):
It never changes in my mind. I just it's still
one of those things that have happened. You know, Rich
Ornberger and I were literally on the air here at
Fox Sports Radio on that Sunday when it happened, and
even to this day, it just seems.
Speaker 1 (02:16:50):
Unreal sometimes, like it really like sometimes like I still
can't believe like this happened. I remember it.
Speaker 2 (02:16:56):
I literally drive on my way to the station that morning,
I'm dry.
Speaker 9 (02:17:00):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (02:17:02):
The freeway right by where the accident would happen. Oh ok.
And so it just it's still to the stay.
Speaker 1 (02:17:09):
Just it's crazy, still feel unreal, and it still sucks
so so much.
Speaker 2 (02:17:15):
Speaking of the Lakers on a much lighter note, they
still don't have a coach. Yeah, now, well they do.
Speaker 1 (02:17:22):
His name is Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (02:17:24):
So a couple things about this one. The Clippers, we
didn't really get to talk about this in death about
Tylou extended his contract. We knew that they were trying
to extend his contract. The question is what would get
it done. Fourteen million a year. Now, again, when you
have an owner that's worth one hundred billion dollars, is
(02:17:49):
one of the ten wealthiest people in the world, fourteen
million for your coach is not too much. And I
congratulate you because you are retaining one of the elite
coaches in this league, no doubt in my man. But
I think the Lakers were, you know, maybe hoping that
Tylu would not be one hundred percent convinced that he
(02:18:11):
can win a championship with the Clippers. That didn't happen.
So now we get back to JJ Reddick. Think about
this ESPN for years you have Mike Breen pros pros
your play by play guy, and he had Jeff Van
Gundy and he had Mark Jackson. I mean that seemed
like a pretty solid trio than Gundy and Jackson knew
(02:18:33):
each other. Well, they played it. Then they blow them out.
You bring in Doris Burke. I'm a Doris Burke fan.
She does a great job. But this year they bring
in JJ Reddick, And I'm like, why would you bring
in JJ Reddick if he's about to leave to become
the Lakers new head coach Because all indications I haven't
(02:18:56):
heard any feasible alternative to JJ Reddick, who gets the
job with no coaching experience because he co hosts a
podcastle Lebron James And by the way, Rich Paul, who
represents obviously Lebron is a longtime friend and now is
(02:19:18):
going to represent Bronnie Bronni's going to be a Laker
next year.
Speaker 1 (02:19:23):
Yeah, I know, that's absolutely insane. They're going to take
him with that seventeenth pick.
Speaker 2 (02:19:27):
Well, no, they're not going to take him with a
seventeenth pick. But remember what Rich Paul said.
Speaker 1 (02:19:33):
Right, He's not going to be a two way, right,
he wants.
Speaker 2 (02:19:35):
A guaranteed ross. No one is going to give Bronnie
James a guaranteed roster spot, Nobody except the Lakers. Well,
they won't even have to draft him because no one's
going to draft Bronnie James as a second round pick.
All second round picks get two way contracts. No team
is going to bring in a guy that shot thirty
(02:19:55):
percent from the field twenty percent from three point line,
averaging less than five point t the game, who, by
the way, had a serious health scare on top of that,
and give him a guaranteed roster spot. So basically what
he did was he's eliminating him from being drafted. So
as soon as the draft is over, he commediately signed
a free agent contract with the Lakers. And by the way,
(02:20:19):
that two way contract thing, I'm sure is negotiable once
he's with the Lakers. So that's that's what's happening here.
But this, I mean, is this the right move? I mean,
I mean, I'm not dismissing that JJ Reddick can't be
a successful coach. But you know what makes a good coach,
(02:20:40):
I mean easy, You got to win more games than
you lose. But you've got to figure out a way
as Jason Kidd obviously has done with Dallas and figuring
out a way to get Doncic and Kyrie on the
same page. I don't know. But what is the delay here?
I mean, I mean, I've never seen anything like this.
Speaker 1 (02:20:58):
Yeah, it's weird that there is a especially after the
Clippers were able to extend TYLERU. We know it's JJ Reddick,
but this whole thing has been very calculated, as Lebron
James is. Lebron James is a very calculated man. The
idea of like, oh, BRONI has ten invitations from different
teams to go work out, but he's only going to
(02:21:18):
go to these And it's like, none of these teams
are genuinely thinking, oh, maybe we can get Lebron James.
None of them are thinking that because Lebron is a
very calculated guy. How am I not supposed to believe
that this whole podcast was the beginning of him becoming
the head coach of the Lakers. This all seems like
it was the plan from the beginning. Why JJ Reddick. Obviously,
(02:21:42):
the Lakers think that JJ Reddick can in away not control,
but you get what I'm saying, control a little bit
of Lebron James. I think they think Lebron respects him
and thus he can't coach.
Speaker 2 (02:21:55):
Why does he respect JJ Reddick.
Speaker 1 (02:21:57):
I don't know why, but I'm just telling you what
I think they think. They probably and Lebron has probably
told them, no, I respect him he for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (02:22:04):
As a coach. Yeah, I'm a difference between doing a
podcast with somebody and somebody. By the way, he's not
just coaching Lebron James. He would have to coach the
entire team.
Speaker 1 (02:22:14):
But why even do a podcast with him in the
first place? I thought that was weird.
Speaker 2 (02:22:18):
I don't I mean, I guess he's a broadcaster.
Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
I mean, but Lebron could pick literally anyone to do
a podcast with, and then he picked JJ Reddick. But
I have nothing against JJ, but I thought that was weird,
and so here I am now months later, I'm like, Oh,
this was your plan all along. This was just the
beginning of the plan.
Speaker 2 (02:22:37):
I like where some of these teams have been going
with these young assistants that have actually panned out. Pretty
well for these teams. I don't know. Again, you know,
And we're going to talk with Mark Medina coming up
on the other side about something he was discussing earlier
with Dan Buyer about the relevance of the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (02:22:57):
You're so offended by that.
Speaker 2 (02:23:00):
What anything. They've been either missed the playoffs or been
eliminated in the first round of the playoffs nine of
the last eleven years. That's a fact. Okay. I don't
know how relevant you are over an eleven year period
if you've either missed the playoffs entirely or been eliminated
(02:23:22):
in the first round nine of eleven years.
Speaker 11 (02:23:25):
But you could say that the Knicks are relevant, and
I think it's just because you get a pass if
you're a big market team.
Speaker 2 (02:23:31):
The Knicks have won two championships in their history, none
since nineteen seventy three. But they're a big market team,
and I think they they're a big market team. I've
said this. It helps the NBA if the Knicks are good.
And the Knicks are good right now. They're not championship level,
but they're good. All right, Let's find out what's trending
(02:23:53):
right now.
Speaker 11 (02:23:54):
By the way, want to shout out somebody who's been
listening to the show. Yes, David Singer Radio, he said,
and he's now at NFL network. He texted me and
he said, tell Steve that he got all of the
right answers for the Dodgers. That when we're doing Who's
Your Daddy segment, all of the right answers as far
as batters who have hit off and out of Dodgers
(02:24:16):
datium with home runs. It's scept frnado tatis. And we
know David is a devouted Dodger fan, so of course
he's gonna forget about him.
Speaker 3 (02:24:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:24:22):
No, there's a little asterix. Now we know why he
hit it over that.
Speaker 2 (02:24:25):
That is true. That is true.
Speaker 11 (02:24:27):
What you can say about Mark maguire though, too sure sure?
Which is he was another one?
Speaker 1 (02:24:31):
Yeah, no, you're right, you're right. When you're right, you're right.
Speaker 2 (02:24:33):
Yeah, yeah, I like that. That's a good line.
Speaker 5 (02:24:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:24:37):
Hey, what's going on right now?
Speaker 1 (02:24:39):
I'm not sure?
Speaker 2 (02:24:39):
Well, let me tell you something. What is going on?
Speaker 11 (02:24:42):
And it's going on on Clay Novak Djokovic right now
is down. Well, it's one set of piece. He's, of
course the number one ranked tennis player in the world.
It's the third round of the Friends Open right now,
taking on Lorenzo Mussetti. Nice, and they split the first
two sets. This second set, Mussetti is in front four
(02:25:03):
games to one. Djokovic is serving and that one four
game and he does have a game point coming up
at forty third.
Speaker 2 (02:25:09):
All right, I asked you early. You wouldn't answer my question.
You were defiant because it is not Djokovic who's gonna
win the French Open.
Speaker 11 (02:25:16):
Look, I was in Saint Louis for a college tennis tournament,
broadcasting that. You don't even want to get me started
about the airlines. How long it took me to get back.
Speaker 2 (02:25:24):
You know, the entire one and twenty eight men's and
women's field for the French Open.
Speaker 12 (02:25:30):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:25:31):
So it's not like you were out of town. You
know who's competing, who's gonna win? Who do I want
to win? I want Djokovic to win. Okay, but that
wasn't I asked you earlier Djokovic versus the field, and
he said, I'll take the field.
Speaker 11 (02:25:47):
We don't have that on on a documented we do, okay,
So we do have that Djokovic match going on. We
also have Caitlin Clark with her eleven points, eight rebounds
assist and I think Steve's a big fan and the
Indiana Fever coming up with the big home win there.
They are now two and eight in the year. Let's
(02:26:09):
go two and eight. Yeah, after they beat the Chicago
Sky seventy one to seventy. Clark four of eleven from
the floor and two of nine from long range, so
she did knock in two triples, but I had a
couple of bricks there as well. Major League Baseball is
where we now venture and a ton of games are
up and running. Some games are already finished. The Guardians
(02:26:31):
three to two winners against the Nationals, Rangers seven and
nothing all over the Marlins. We saw the Padres pick
up a seven to three victory over the Royals. Braves
they stutter and hiccup at home eleven to nine, Athletics
getting the job done there. Astros over the Twins five
to two. Yard On Alvarez had two home runs for
the Twins or Red Sox. They are victoria six to
(02:26:53):
three against the Tigers and a victory for the Brewers
along with the Diamondbacks and the Orioles Pirates as well.
Pirates eight to one over the Blue Jays. The Champions
League title went to Real Madrid to nil over Dortmund.
That one was earlier Today NHL, we got the Rangers
(02:27:14):
and the Panthers in a Game six Eastern Conference Final
that's going to start up in about half an hour
or so, when the puck will be dropping for that one.
Florida is ahead in the best of seven series three
games to two, so the Rangers have their sights set
on trying to force a game seven. Third round of
the RBC Canadian Open just coming to a close, and
(02:27:36):
as it stands right now, this is the PGA Tour
with one round to go on Sunday, it's Robert McIntyre,
no relation to our very own Jason McIntyre fourteen under
for the tournament, four under today and that puts some
four shots ahead of what is a three way tie
per second, Ben Griffin, mackenzie, hughes, Ryan Fox, and don't
(02:27:59):
forget about Rory McElroy, who is seven shots off the
pace after a sixty five today, five hundred and a
seven underscore through three rounds. So we've got all of
that going on, and with that we get it back
to Montsi and Steve who got stumped on that. You know,
(02:28:19):
we were playing the game last last hour and I
finally stumped you and apparently I'm your father.
Speaker 2 (02:28:25):
Now you are my daddy. Yes, not the father, You're
my daddy. What's the difference with a big difference is
a difference, a difference being a daddy and a father.
M's fip. Once you get that daddy brand as I've
been living with for many years, You've you've Everyone comes
after daddy. Hey, everyone needs something from daddy. That's what happens.
(02:28:48):
All right, once again, we are here at the tirag
dot com studios. Join us right now.
Speaker 13 (02:28:53):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:28:53):
That has many, many, many many appearances here on the
Fox Sports Radar Network. But what extra today would Dambayer
as co hosting a show earlier today? Our friend Mark
Medina is back. How was that with Dan today? Mark?
Speaker 3 (02:29:08):
All was fun? We you know, we Dan and I
were just trying to do the intro act for the
main event with you and Montre so hopefully hopefully job
well done for the main show.
Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
Well, you guys did a tremendous job. And I was
listening and both of us were listening, and Dan brought
up something about the relevance of the Celtics and he
sided the fact that the Lakers are still the biggest
brand in the NBA, and I said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa whoa, And Mark, you know, I'm I've covered a
(02:29:41):
lot of Laker basketball and back in the past we
ran into many Laker games together. And I've been following
the Lakers since Elgem Baylor was still playing. So, I mean,
you know, this is a long time, but how relevant
is a franchise? Over the last eleven years it has
either missed the playoffs entirely or been eliminated in the
first round nine of those eleven years, and then as
(02:30:02):
one Conference final appearance in which they got blown out
in four straight games, and then a Bubble championship where
no one was in attendance. So I mean, how is
it that the Lakers are still I mean, we asked
this about the Dallas Cowboys, but how do you believe
the Lakers have maintained their status of being relevant when
(02:30:23):
in reality they're not?
Speaker 3 (02:30:25):
But they are relevant, I mean, they're a global brand.
They don't they make a lot of money?
Speaker 2 (02:30:31):
Is that all because of Lebron Jeans. I know, he's
still the biggest brand name in this league. Is it
all because of Lebron No.
Speaker 3 (02:30:38):
I think it's a few things here. When the Lakers
missed the playoffs for six consecutive seasons, which was a
franchise record, still coincided. Part of that was Kobe Bryant's
final years. You have the Lakers equity. You know, they
take a hit, but when you build decades worth of equity,
of championship, excellence and our power, you know, that helped sustain.
(02:31:02):
And then Lebron James came and then helped everything else here.
And so I'm with you. Like the Lakers, they haven't
always been consistent, They've had some down years, but I
will say the championship in the bubble, there weren't fans,
but it was real. It was very challenging to be there.
And I think that the advantages that teams had of
(02:31:24):
not having to travel and having that you know, rest
from when the season stopped to when it resumed very
much pailed to all the other challenges they faced of
not having the fans as a source of energy, the
challenges of being away from friends, friends and family, just
the pandemic and the state of the world as is.
(02:31:45):
And there's a reason why other teams you know, really
did not play well and underachieve, where the Lakers they
were able to survive at all.
Speaker 5 (02:31:52):
But to your.
Speaker 3 (02:31:53):
Original point about relevance, relevance doesn't necessarily mean excellence here.
So you know, the Lakers, they've had that brand that
has helped them stay that way through both the highs
and lows.
Speaker 1 (02:32:07):
I agree with you, mister Medina. I said, Okay, with
the Lakers, this whole thing with like Bronnie, is anybody
talking about what's going to happen with Bryce? Like if
this is the conversation already with Brownie James, is anybody
out there being like, all right, so like when Bryce comes,
what are we doing? Are we just whatever Lebron and
(02:32:28):
Bryce want they get?
Speaker 3 (02:32:29):
That is a very good question because I believe that
he already transferred once and look like father like son.
I mean, Lebron's changed teams multiple times. But if Lebron
were to leave LA and go to another team, I
would think that that would mean Bryce would have to
change schools. Now, I guess there's some loopholes here. Hypothetically,
(02:32:51):
if Lebron and Browny were with the Phoenix Sons, maybe
in Lebron's mind Okay, I'm a short flight away from home.
We're not going to uproot the family. Bryce can still
stay put. But I think the bottom line is, with
all the maneuvering and the signals, I think it's going
to come down to this. We Lebron James is going
to opt out of his contract. He's just going to
(02:33:12):
sign a new deal with the Lakers. I think Browny
will get selected by the Lakers, but it's not because
they trade it up to get him. It's because he
was available at the number fifty fifth pick, So why
not keep him. He might, you know, be at the
end of the bench or play some games in the
G League and that's the end of that.
Speaker 2 (02:33:31):
Yeah, well, no one's going to draft him. When Rich
Paul comes out and says he won't sign a two
way deal, there's not a second round pick in the
NBA that doesn't have a two way deal. So basically
he's making it clear to everyone, don't draft this guy.
He's going to be a Laker. He's going to be
with his dad. So and I get it. I'm not
arguing it. It just it is what it is. All Right,
this is going to be our six straight year mark
(02:33:53):
with a different NBA champion. When you look at this
matchup between the Celtics and the Mavericks, and I certainly
was one of the those that thought the Nuggets had
a golden opportunity to win back to back championships. It
didn't happen. Can you see either one of these teams
win a championship this year and then do it again
next year.
Speaker 3 (02:34:13):
Yeah, it's a tough hault because, you know, we've seen
these past few years that teams don't have the same
kind of fortitude to get everyone's best shot. And part
of that is not just the normal challenges of the
wear and tear and having to repeat the challenge of
(02:34:35):
playing till June, but it's really hard because of the
new CBA for teams to even retain, you know, some
of their bench players. And so the time that any
of guys' contracts come up, I think that they decide,
you know what, we're going to try to get younger,
have less of a payroll, not to necessarily just save money,
(02:34:55):
but because it's harder to build a roster because of
all these restrictions. If you're above the second aper. Now
with the Mavericks and the Celtics, I don't believe that
they have expiring contracts to any key player, so I
think that there is an avenue that they can both
run it back. But I don't think that they either
(02:35:16):
team were the prohibitive favorite necessarily to win this season.
They were a handful of many good teams that had
a chance, and so I sense that next season they
could have a chance, but it would be the same thing.
They're just part of a wide open field in both conferences.
Speaker 2 (02:35:32):
All right, Mark, good news, your day is not over.
Many more appearances coming here on Fox Sports. Right we're
up against the clock. Mark did a great job today
with Dan. Thanks for joining us. We always appreciate the time.
Speaker 3 (02:35:44):
I appreciate you just trying to follow your lead. A monsters.
Speaker 2 (02:35:48):
There you go, the great Martin Medina. JOHNI is right.
There are Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider. So when these
NBA finals start, how long will it take before they're finished?
We'll tell you. On the other side, this is Fox
Sports Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:36:04):
Gold Digger. That's right, everybody want something from Daddy.
Speaker 2 (02:36:10):
I'm gonna say that's a perfect Daddy thing. Sugar Daddy,
Sugar Daddy, Sugar Daddy out of labels once again. This
is Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Harvey, Montsey Bolanos. We are
here in the tire rack dot Com studios. I want
to thank the crew to day be fan Brian Family,
(02:36:33):
Brian Finley, the daddy of the week. He is my daddy.
I'm gonna be hitting up big time. Yeah, that's my daddy. Yeah.
Mary Mac, she gave it a shot.
Speaker 1 (02:36:44):
She did, she did.
Speaker 2 (02:36:46):
I barely tried.
Speaker 1 (02:36:46):
I didn't even put any I didn't put no effort.
I knew you were gonna know that the freaking twenty sixteen,
like I already do it. I just wanted to be
included and we appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (02:36:56):
Thank you, Thank you very much. And then of course Patrick, Hello,
that was a phenomenal question and my brain needed the
extra time.
Speaker 12 (02:37:05):
Well, you know, I'm not going to take credit for
that one. I'm going to give a shout out to
to my pops on that one.
Speaker 2 (02:37:10):
Oh really, all right? Well, I love your dad. That
has been a big supporter of mine for many years,
and I appreciate you very much. Is all right? Monci? Again,
I am here with someone that proclaimed four weeks ago,
now two weeks, four weeks ago that the Dallas Mavericks
(02:37:32):
would win the NBA Championship. There is nobody that made
that prediction four weeks ago. Nobody. So now that it
is here, the NBA Finals sort of this it won't
start till Thursday. Where they playing one game a week
or how are they going to do that? I hopefully
if we don't have to wait too long for our final.
Speaker 1 (02:37:54):
Text me on Thursday and remind me that it's game one.
Speaker 2 (02:37:57):
I forgot all right, So Thursday it's game one. But
all right, So obviously you're picking the Mavericks to win
first two games in Boston, next too in Dallas, then Boston, Dallas, Boston.
If there's a game five to six, seven, So how
many games for the Mavericks to win the NBA Championship, Well.
Speaker 1 (02:38:15):
The Dallas Mavericks are going to win game one in Boston,
give me that right now?
Speaker 2 (02:38:20):
All right, So the Celtics will have been off for
ten days, yes, Mavericks will be off seven days.
Speaker 8 (02:38:26):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (02:38:27):
And you're saying that that staleness is going to show
on the court for the self.
Speaker 1 (02:38:31):
And it's not just stalin us, it's just we know
that the Celtics lose at home.
Speaker 2 (02:38:34):
Well, they only lost two playoff games this year. And
both were at home.
Speaker 1 (02:38:38):
Right, they don't protect home court like other teams do.
Speaker 2 (02:38:40):
But they're also undefeated on the road.
Speaker 1 (02:38:42):
Great, that's lovely. They will the Mavericks will win for
the first game, and the Mavericks will win the series
in six games.
Speaker 2 (02:38:50):
So the Mavericks after that will be home games the
rest of the week. Yeah, think about that. So then
the Celtics win Game two at home. Yeah, then Dallas
wins two at home, and then Celtics win Game five
at home, and then Dallas wraps it up at home.
Speaker 1 (02:39:06):
That's exactly what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (02:39:07):
Interesting, not that's not going to happen. All right, I'm
gonna give you Are.
Speaker 1 (02:39:11):
You actually going to give a prediction here or are
we gonna run?
Speaker 2 (02:39:14):
No, I'm going to give it right now because I'm
gonna I'm gonna go with logic in this thing. Okay,
Boston Celtics should win this series.
Speaker 1 (02:39:23):
Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
Speaker 2 (02:39:25):
Should And so I'm going to picked Boston in this series,
and I think it goes to full seven. I think
this is gonna come down and gave seven. We were
talking earlier about Jason Tatum and you know, and and
I agree with you guys. A lot of close games,
I would take the duo of Luca and Kyrie over
Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum and hitting big shots. But
(02:39:47):
in this case, I think by the series end, we'll
be talking about Jason Tatum and not about Luka Doncic.
The Tatum, after all these years of frustration in the
post season, gets it done. Is finally gonna get it done.
And the Boston Celtics and I hate the Celtics, believe me,
I'm not rooting for the Celtics. And of course me
(02:40:09):
picking the Celtics is my way of saying, there's no
way the Celtics will win, So I'm gonna give it
the lock right now, locket, there we go, that the
Celtics will win in seven. You say Dallas in six?
Speaker 1 (02:40:23):
Correct?
Speaker 2 (02:40:23):
All right? Much more coming up, geting here. This is
Fox Sports Radio.
