Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, it's about that time, and I'm in a Star
Wars state of mind, and I'll explain here in just
a second with my guy E from salam Mark Willard,
broadcasting live from the tire rag.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Dot com studios.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Tire rag dot com will help you get there an
unmatt selection, fast free shipping, free road has a protection
in over ten thousand recommended installers tire raq dot com.
The way tire buying should be. It should be that
on Sunday nights we get to.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Do it. My man, I'm good man, how are you?
Everything is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
And the reason I say that I'm in a Star
Wars state of mind is this. Those who are familiar
with all of the stories know that once upon a
time when Obi Won lifted up his lightsaber and said, basically, Darth,
if you kill me, I will only become stronger, stronger
(01:03):
than you could ever imagine. Now, let me take you
to the and then you can allow me to explain
to everybody. Allow me to explain to everybody who plays
in that league. The more you shove her, the more
you talk about her, the more you let her trash
talk get to you, the more powerful she becomes.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
It's that simple.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
If the league wants to keep doing this and then
say this is what you're gonna get if you've got
all this attention. And let's be real, Caitlin Clark's a
trash talker, like a Kobe, like a Michael, like a
Larry Bird. But what does what cracks me up is
people go, she's trash talkers. Let's go over there and
(01:56):
give her a forearm shiver. What are you supposed to do?
Can you tell me you played in the NFL. What
do you do with a trash talker? Well, there's a
couple things. Okay, you can trash talk back, m h
are you can just shut them down.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
And like when you have one on one competition and
you were going against somebody who's trash talking, the best,
the best remedy, the best medicine for that is to
point to the school board at the end of the
game and you be up on top with the win
(02:40):
because the trash talk is just trash talk, right, Like
it goes back to the parks, playing at the parks, basketball,
trash talking, so on and so forth, and then finding yourself.
Now you go sit down, who got next, right, Like that,
That's the end all be all when it comes to
(03:01):
trash talk, especially in basketball, because you can, right if
someone's guarding you, you can just annihilate them. It can
go back and forth, it can do all of those things,
but the best medicine when someone's really trash talking is
to shut them down. You shut them down, you help
your team win game. Blouses, I love trash talk. I
(03:25):
think trash talk is an important part of professional sports,
maybe even college sports. Don't like it on the high
school level and below because emotionally, most you know, young
kids can't deal with the trash talking and the you know,
(03:49):
the emotions of being beaten while you were trash like,
it's just a lot like as you get to the
college level and the professional level, you're you know, your
emost you can deal with a little differently. So I
like it on college and the professional level. I think
(04:10):
it feeds energy. I mean, I was a trash talker
still am. So it's like, this is just that's just
what it is, man. And and I'm okay with her
doing it. I'm okay with them doing it to her.
I'm okay with the hard fouls, I'm okay with all
(04:30):
of that, I really am.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
You're okay with the foul we saw yesterday because there
are hard there are hard fouls, and then there are
cheap shots.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I'm not I'll never be okay with a cheap shot.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
That was not like the ball was not even in play.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Right, I'll never be okay with a cheap shot.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Never.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, For those of you who did not see the play,
we're talking about Chicago taking on the Indiana fever on
the Chicago team.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
First of all, Angel Reese is on that team.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
She was on the bench when this happened, but boy,
she enjoyed the hell out of it. She stood up
off the bench was applauding her teammate. She was the
first one to go over to her teammate after the
time out.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
In her teammate was Shendity.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Carter and Carter who, by the way, we're gonna play
some sound for you in just a second, another piece
the cheap shot. Then you're gonna run from it. Then
you're gonna have your coach cover up for you. Look,
if you're gonna do this stuff, if you're gonna target
Caitlyn Clark, if you're gonna let all of this.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Get to you.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
You know what, I kind of understand it. There's a
piece of me that gets it. I understand the jealousy.
I totally get it. But if you're gonna let it
get to you, well, my suggestion would be look people
in the eye and answer questions, because if you want
to do that, everything was done under basically the blanket.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
In this game. I'm gonna sneak up on Caitlin.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
I'm gonna hit her from behind, knock her down, and
then when someone wants to ask me a question about it,
I'm gonna say I'm not gonna ask a question.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
About it, and or answer a question about it.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And then the coach is gonna come up and say,
that's enough questions about Caitlin Clark. Why why? Why is
that enough questions? I hate to break this to the
w n b A. It's the only question we want
to ask. It's the only question we want to ask.
(06:28):
I'm sorry, coach, we don't want to know the play
that you drew up there at the end of.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
A one point loss.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Sorry, you're the ones who are in an entertainment entity,
so allow us to be entertained. I'm not even bothered
by any of this. Ephraim, this is good for the
w NBA. We are leading our show.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I'm just gonna say, we started the show.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
We started. This never happened before ever ever, so it's
not a bad thing.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Like I also want to talk to the people who
are all like they all want to save Caitlyn Clark
from all the mean girls.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
And Carter is fine.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
She's grown perfectly all right, all right, she can dish
it as just as well as she can take it,
so it is fine. It was like, remember last the
year before last when LSU beat them, and you know
Andrew Reies did that. You know that you can't see
(07:29):
me the hand in front of the face, and everybody like,
I could she do that's poor sportsmanship, not knowing the
backstory of that's the same exact thing that that Caitlyn
Clark did to I can't remember the young lady's name from, uh,
I believe was it Mississippi State? I believe when she
(07:51):
another top player in college basketball and she did the
same thing to her. So everybody was just like, well,
it's okay for Kaitlyn to do it, But when Andrews
didn't doing it, lamb lame, lamb black let the ladies
play basketball, Let them compete, let them talk trash. Oh
so unlady like. Well, they not being ladies when they're
out there hooping. They being ball players, they being athletes. Okay,
(08:15):
I don't. I didn't carry myself the same way on
the field I would do in at my kids school. Right,
there's a difference you when you when you step across
the lines on the court, the field, the pitch, or
wherever it is, you become something else. Yes, I don't
want to hear wha that's unlady like, and that's this
(08:38):
and that. Hey, man, go and sit down with some
somewhere with that and let these ladies be professional athletes
or athletes and let them put.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
It all out there on the line. It's ridiculous. I
don't even know what lady like means.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
And if I wanted to watch lady like, I'm pretty
sure I'm not going to a basketball.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
We're not doing that, man like.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
You know what I mean. If we're not, we're not
on a date. We're going to basketball game for crying out.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Like, competition at the highest level. That's what we're watching
and everything that comes with that, every single thing, the
emotion as an athlete of being in a game and
it meaning so much to you, and you're going against
a rival and all of those things. Are amazed that
(09:22):
most people don't know what that feels like. So that's
why it's a lot of Oh well, most people really
don't know what that feels like and what it takes
to a night in and night out bring that level
of energy.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Got no issue with it. I have no issue with
hard play. I have no issue with trash talk I
don't even really have an issue with what.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Like.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
It's not like I walked away offended.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
I walked away shook him, shaking my head because I'm like,
I wonder, Channity Harder and Angel Reese, I wonder if
you understand you're fighting a battle that you can't win. Look,
you can't win that battle, and look there's a different
way to play that battle. And I hope that everyone
(10:14):
noticed the sort of like the finer point that you
made when I asked you how you handle a trash talker.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Did you notice what you said? You beat themboard. You
don't beat them up, You beat them. See y'all next time.
That's the difference.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
See you next time. Bring that tongue and all the
words with your next game, right, Like it's that that's
when you you can get the when you when you win,
you get the last word. When you win, you get
the last word. And sometimes you don't even need to
use words, just a slight point to the scoreboard and
(10:59):
a laugh. Right, let them go in there, let them
go be mad, let them steal on this waiting for
the next time they play. Yeah, all of that, you
can get to have all of that.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Well, I mean, but simply think about how I think
a lot of.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
These players are kicking themselves in the shin.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
If this does really come from jealousy, if your Matt
talks about.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
In view, go ahead and keep beating her up the world,
do it's going to make or and like so if.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
W NBA player is Caitlin's got some sort of a
free ride because she's finesse and she shoots, and she
came at the right time and she's white. Like whatever
point you want to come up with in terms of
like this is unfair, We've been here balling for years.
(11:58):
Whatever the point is, keep punching her in the back.
You're not gonna get what you want.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
No, Kaly Kaylyn Clark is a dog okay, And I
mean that in every respectable sense possible for an athlete.
When I'm as an athlete, you want dogs, right like,
you want to be able to take them off the
leash and send them out there and get the business done.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Right.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
I play on the team with dogs, right like, that's
what you want. And she's one of those. And she's
just a tremendous competitor, a tremendous teammate. She's highly skilled,
and she's all about it. She wants all the smoke
and I love that the most. She's not shying away
from it. She wants it all, she expects it all.
(12:46):
She just spent two very public and popular years in
college where everybody and their mom was coming for him
and talking about her and all of that. So she's
built for this and I love it, and I love
it for the w n B.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
A yep, yep, yeah, this is all. This is a
good thing. This is a good thing for the league. However,
for the individuals, I think the focus is play her
and beat her, not play her and beat her up.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
No, And but you be rough with just be rough
with like you would be rough with anybody else.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Exactly right.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
We just saw a couple of days ago, get choke slammed,
going up for.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
I mean, everything's gonna happen, especially in America. Every parent
in America has given this advice. Whence the kid comes
home from school and says, there's a bully. What does
the parents say, Ignore the bully. Ignore So as long
as you keep treating Katelin Clark like she's someone different,
you treat her like she's different, kiss.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
What she is?
Speaker 3 (13:52):
You say, ignore the bully? What type of bullying we're
talking about? Because I'm like, hey man, this is how
you boil your fist up and you get to put
you get your hand. No, I'm just I'm teasing. I
do not advocate viol spend it over here. I don't
advocate violence. But we will not be physically bullied. We
don't play that in the salon.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
No, not physically.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Yeah that's different if somebody actually stuck attacking you. But anyway,
we'll let you hear what these ladies had to say
right after the game. Coming up next, Thoroughbred Racing has
a new independent regulator, HEISA, that is implementing comprehensive reforms,
and the sport is combining hands on care with cutting
edge technology to help keep its athletes safe. To learn

Speaker 1 (15:22):
All right, these are the tire.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Is E from Salaam and I'm Mark Willard And yeah,
I can't remember if we did this a few weeks
ago or not, E from so I don't even remember
if this is the first time ever that we have
led the first entire half hour of the show talking
about the WNBA. We've definitely talked more about the WNBA
(15:47):
here in twenty twenty four than we ever have all
the other years put together. And I think that's an
awesome thing because the league itself, right, this is just
like a player who gets a first big contract, or
a rock band that starts getting played on the radio
or what have you. Like, you know this, It's one
(16:09):
thing to arrive somewhere. It's a completely different one to
deal with success. And I actually think in an odd way,
the WNBA is.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
A league is.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Now entering that realm because they are now experiencing something
that they've never experienced before. And that word is attention.
There are stories, we can see it, and so it's different.
It's different to deal with that when you haven't dealt
(16:44):
with it before. And that's largely what I feel like
I saw yesterday with regard to this play that everyone's
talking about between Indiana and and Kennity Carter from from Chicago,
Like this all got to you. So you gave her
(17:08):
a shoulder to the back. She fell, the world started talking.
You got to ask questions, you wouldn't answer them. That
is just it's immaturity. It's immaturity in dealing with high
level trash talk. And so that's just the way I
(17:28):
look at it, which is that if you if you're
gonna let Caitlin Clark's name value and trash talk get
to you, then that's exactly what you've done.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
You've let it get to you.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Now you are you are a lesser player than you
were five minutes ago. It's like the whole point of
trash talk.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
You're right in that. And the aspect of trash talking,
uh is used to find cracks in a player's psyche,
in their ability, right.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
You see it a lot.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
It's in the NBA every time somebody goes to the
free throw line or any basketball especially in the NBA though,
where somebody walk up and he'd be like, what is
he saying to him?
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Right? Like? What is he?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Like? What what is the conversation there hearing having there?
Even Michael Jordan famously was talking to Matambo I think
it was Matambo's rookie year or whatever, and he had
fouled him, and Mike had went to the line and
he said, Yo, Ma Tombo, this for you, and he
closed his eyes and he shot the free throw right
(18:35):
like that is a level and the sophistication of trash
talk on a whole nother level. So imagine what your
psyche is as a player when Michael Jordan singles you
out and he shoots the free throw that you filed
him on with his eyes closed, Like, how do you
(18:57):
come back from that?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Right?
Speaker 3 (18:59):
It's psychological warf psychological warfare, and if you're going to
do it, react to it. You better be able to
take it. And if you can't, then you know, cheap
shotting and all that. Look, hey man, I'm within the
realm of the game, and it's a lot that you
(19:20):
can do in the realm of a game. Like I'm
not talking about Draymond Green left hook, MMA style scissor
kick on bar. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking
about you're coming in for a rebound, they're standing there,
you dislodge them going up for the rebound, like all
(19:41):
of those things. They're going up for a shot, you
go for the ball, put a little bit extra on it,
across the.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Chest, all of that type of stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
But you don't just come up behind somebody and and
just hit them when they don't see, Like they hit
them when they they're not looking, they're not ready. I
don't like that. That's not okay for me, but you
better be able to if you conditioned, you better to
be able to take it. And I think that's the
thing that a lot of people are like just like, well,
what is going on here? Like, look, hey, man, I've
(20:13):
told this story many times. I've trained when the Sacramento
had a Sacramento had a a w NBA team, the
Sacramento Monarchs. I used to train. Their trainer was Albi
and Connie, who was also the trainer of the Kings,
and he had been training myself and my brother since
we were in high school. And we would come and
(20:33):
we would play against the w NBA team. We would
scrimmage against them, and I heard some things out there
I had never heard before. I was like, uh, say
what now, you want to talk about trash talk? Yeah,
it's emasculating, Okay. I was like, wait a minute, because
(20:55):
then you catch yourself. It's like, man, can I say
back what I would normally say? And then you you
get caught up in it. But then you realize, oh,
we're competing, so it's no, it's all you know, it's
it's all holds. Everything goes no holds, barre yep and
and just to reach that level of competition and like
(21:18):
it was here. I'm telling you man, you you would
be like, oh my goodness, they said what now? And
I could just imagine what it's like, uh, in these games,
and it's been like that. It's been trash talking, it's
been all of that. We're just getting to see it
now because we actually get to see the games. They're
not playing on the radio or on YouTube or wherever
(21:39):
they were playing. Uh, you know early on, we really.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Get to see them.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Let's let's let's let everybody hear exactly what Channity Carter
said along with her coach in the press conference after
the game when the question started and then.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
Kennedy, give you an opportunity to talk about that moment.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Maybe you keep them what ones on that play?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
What was said and kind of what led to next question?
Speaker 4 (22:08):
What a little bit?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Yeah, I answering, Okay Clark questions, she said, I don't
know what she said. What you say, entertain We're good.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
Yeah, it was unexpected, but I think it's just like
just respond, come down while you're playing the talking.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
It is what it is.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
It's a physical game. Go make the free throw, and
then a secute on offense, and I feel like that's.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Kind of what we did. But you know what it is.
I guess.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Yeah, I I you know, I would have much rather
her just be like, look, man, it's basketball, this is
what we do. I had words, She had some words. Look,
it was a foul that it is what it is.
Let's let's keep it pushing like, I'm not going to ignore, right,
are treated like it didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
You're not gonna act like it didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
No, the world someone what are you talking about? Doesn't
answer it and move on because if you don't answer it,
they're gonna ask you again a thousand other different ways.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Uh, there's much more to say on this. But but
there's somebody else who also has words.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
And we'll talk about trash talker.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
I am told that he is absolutely chopping at the
bit to share some of these words.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
So we're better get out of the way of Steve
de Seger.
Speaker 6 (23:30):
Yeah, so there there's my trash talk We talked about
this last night on the show, and one of the
questions that came up from a host was can't you
just be a mature adult as a player and answer
the question? It's not an unusual question and it was
really uncomfortable, unnecessary exchange. And the conclusion with the answer
is well know because we saw the non adult that
(23:51):
the person was with the behavior on the court, and
it's just continued in the press conference afterwards. Can we
update that the Indiana fever are in action right now
New York and Caitlin Clark is one of ten from
the floor. They're getting blown out from three point range.
She is one of seven three points, five assists, three turnovers.
New York with six and a half minutes to go,
(24:12):
leads eighty seven to sixty over Indiana. Connecticut is eight
to oh It won at Atlanta sixty nine to fifty.
And college softball final just now, there are two elimination
games tonight Florida has eliminated Alabama six to four. Florida
Gators get number two ranked Oklahoma tomorrow Ucla against Stanford
coming up. That winner gets number one Texas tomorrow night.
(24:33):
The NBA Finals don't start till sometime this summer, but
the Celtics will be hosting the Mavericks this week. I
am told Thursday night is game one and then next
Sunday night is game number two. So actually, as we speak,
exactly seven days hints it will be one game to
none for somebody. That's how long await we have hit
(24:54):
things going here in the NHL West Final could be
ending tonight. Game six is at Edmonton, an early goal
for the Oilers to take a one nothing lead over
the top seeded Dallas Stars, Connor McDavid, scoring just four
to seventeen into the game. Oilers already up three games
to two in the series. Florida won the Eastern Conference
(25:14):
last night. The Stanley Cup Finals starts Saturday, and the
US Women's Open went to Japan's yucasaso American Andrea Lee
shot a final round seventy five. Robert McIntyre won the
Canadian Opened by one stroke. More on him in a moment.
Austin Sindric won the NASCAR race at Gateway in Illinois.
Ryan Blaney ran out of gas late, allowing Sindric to
(25:35):
pass him for the victory, his first since Daytona two
years ago. In Major League Baseball, tonight, the Cardinals are
winning at Philadelphia this evening, four to two in the
top of the fifth. Phillies have a record of forty
one and eighteen this year. The Yankees won at San
Francisco again seven to five, with four runs in the
top of the ninth. The Dodgers shut out Colorado four
(25:56):
to nothing. Detroit came back for a ten inning win
at Boston eight to four. Washington won at Cleveland five
to two, beating Carlos Carrasco Kansas City with three runs
bottom of the ninth at San Diego four to three,
and Milwaukee handed the White Sox and eleventh straight loss
six to three, and now finally to golfer Robert McIntyre,
today's winner on tour. He was born in Scotland. This
(26:19):
is a guy who's in his first year as a
full time PGA Tour player. He was part of a
Ryder Cup win last year and then moved to Orlando, Florida.
Golf dot Com on an article this past a few
days said he has felt homesick like never before. He
has changed caddies off in the past year, even between
majors at one point, and then he had one caddy
(26:41):
for five weeks and a caddy had a wedding commitment
during the recent PGA Championships, so he went back to
the previous guy. Canadian opened this week full reset for
the golfer. He needed a caddy. He just needed somebody,
he said, to keep him comfortable on course, some chats
on the course. It was an emergency phone call and
(27:02):
my dad stepped to the plate. He said, he called
his father, can you caddy for me?
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Quote?
Speaker 6 (27:08):
Dad's a good goal for himself, but this kind of level,
he's a bit out of his depth. But I thought
he's doing it a great job. I'm keeping it simple.
So what do you know? Through thirty six holes this
week and at the Canadian Open, not a single bogie
for the mcintires plural, And they had the lead, and
they led by four going into today and they wind
(27:28):
up winning by one stroke. I can only assume Dad's
going to get a ten percent cut of the winnings,
which is nearly one point seven million dollars for Robert McIntyre.
It's an astounding story and needless to say, he was
emotional in the CBS interview afterwards.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
I'm speechless, to be honest, h I.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Don't think I'm looking for a caddy. I think when
crun I'm looking for a green keypo no Scottish.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
But I think he said I don't need a new caddy.
To look for it anymore.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I'm crying with joy, but I'm laughing because I don't
think it was possible.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Robert McIntyre wins the Canadian Open Bag.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
To you, So wait, one hundred and seventy grand for dad,
because I don't know it might be a negotiation coming
for I mean, yeah, it's if it's like most of
the most of the dads that I know, you know what,
you probably just give it right back to him.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
He probably owes it more than that.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, right, the dad might look at him and go,
that's all you got, one hundred and seventy grand.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Keep going anyway, that's an awesome story, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Did he just diminish the value of a good caddy?
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Right?
Speaker 6 (28:42):
They could just call any relatives.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
My dad helped me get the wins. So yeah, I'm
not going to pay you that.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Yeah, not a great weekend for caddies, I would imagine.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
All right, grad you're back with us.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Mark Willardy from Salam Tire Rank dot Com Studios And
by the way, I like, I'm just gonna be real
with you on this because yeah, a lot of us
are getting to know the w NBA for the first time,
I think, and Steve will know this.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Maybe you will too, Ephraim. Is it Kennedy Carter?
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Have I been I've been calling her Chanity Carter.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
It's Kennedy, right, yeah, okay, maybe it is Chanity. I
thought so. I heard someone, uh online say Kennedy. So cool.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
I got it right, yay, Chanity Carter. So let's talk
about this a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
I didn't know about it.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
I wouldn't keep color Kennedy the rest of the time.
I'm sure you know presidential fans and the relatives, and
that's how the name.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
No. I just I figure we're all on the same
team here.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Let's just all go with the same thing, and then
let's go with it whatever it okay, perfect. So anyway,
there's some some stuff to share about about her history.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
But I actually you don't want to know. What just
caught my eye the.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Words of Caitlin Clark's head coach, Christie Sides is her name.
She goes on social media after the game and says
the foul on Carter is unacceptable end quote. When will
the consistent complaints be heard? Something has to be done?
Speaker 1 (30:23):
End quote.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Now, while you and I are sitting here talking so
much about the way people are treating Caitlin Clark and
saying essentially, if you keep this up, you're only going
to make her legend grow. I would like to add
something on this side of the ledger. I would say
to Christie Sides, if I were in front of her,
(30:46):
don't do that.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
I would advise against this.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Something has to be done anytime in sports, or for
that matter, in anything in life, when you have somebody
who shows up and does something brand new, brand new.
You know who was the first mobile quarterback? I mean,
the one in my lifetime that stands out was like
Randall Cunningham, but like quarterbacks who moved, quarterbacks who were
(31:15):
black Tiger Woods hitting the ball the way he did,
Jackie Robinson, anybody who does something brand new. And I'm
not likening this to some of the barriers that those
people broke through, but what I'm saying is anytime somebody
brings something brand new to the table, there's often unfair pushback.
(31:35):
And what those pioneers did so well, Jackie better than anyone,
is they took all of that unfair behavior and they
were just above it. They were above it, and they
and they rode the wave to show that there was
a more powerful way to do it instead of whining
(31:56):
and saying somebody helped me. Like, it's kind of like
what you said if minutes ago, Caitlyn's fine, she's fine.
We don't need punishment or new rules in order to
protect her. I don't think that's the way would either.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
No, Look, we talked about at the beginning of this thing.
We talked about, uh, the buzz of Kaitlyn Carr coming out,
you know a jewies that that class that just got drafted.
(32:36):
We talked about the impact ticket sales going up, needing
to move venues and play in like NBA arenas and
things like that. And I was like, I'm excited, I'm
proud of them. They deserve it, but I'm scared. And
I said, because a lot of people want for the
(33:00):
first time. Are just like in college. It's a little
bit different in college because you're allowed to you can
get loose in college.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
It was.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
What happens if we look up and the fever are
two and twelve and Caitlyn isn't scoring thirty a game
with tennis is twelve. All of the things that we've
come to love from her in college, and here we
are a few weeks into the season. The Fever are
(33:40):
not a good team. They've had back to back first
round draft picks, a first pick in the draft, excuse me,
and they're two and eight, about to be two and nine.
They're getting beat by thirty right now, and Caitlyn Clark
is one for ten, three points.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Now.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
People want to see Caitlyn cart play. But if they're
not winning and she's not playing well, in a month,
we'll be on to Oh, the Olympics, Oh, NCAA football
(34:25):
is coming back, oh, so on and so forth.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
The problem is.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
When you hainge such great responsibility on one player and
that player doesn't live up to expectations that you set
for the public, the people set for the buzz Dies. Now,
if they were losing and she was scoring thirty a game, allow,
(34:54):
when Jordan came into the league and he was killing,
didn't matter he scored sixty three. You Boston Celtics thought
that whole nine yards, right. But it's a learning curve.
It's a more physical game as we've seen, we've been
talking about it, and you know, one for ten, one
for seven, that's not it. Nope, And that's the problem.
(35:19):
The WNBA is going to run into where they're running
into it now is that game even on or it's
on NBA TV, right, So in three weeks and they're
two and sixteen, what does it look like? And that's
the problem with the hype, and that's that that's not
(35:41):
her fault, has nothing to do with her. No, but
it's a lot it's a lot of pressure. Now these
arenas that you've moved to now they're not all sold out.
You know what I'm saying now.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
I totally get it right.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
There's a few flaws actually with this as we look
at where this is going next, which we can dive
into a little bit coming up next. Plus, at the
top of the hour, you really want the audio of
the day, like the Holy Wow audio of the day.
We'll have that for you coming up at the top
of the hour with e from Salam Mark Willard, Fox
(36:21):
Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Live, okay live in the tire Raq dot com studios.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Mark Willard, Ephrom Salam.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
You know what's like again, Like, let's just be real,
A lot of people are looking ahead at a WNBA
schedule for the first time, the like, hey, can we
get some tickets?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Are they coming to our town? What's what's it look like.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
I would love to sit down and talk to the
WNBA about how it.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
Builds its schedule.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Do you even know off the top of your head
when they get to the end of their regular season? No,
Because you were talking just a minute ago about like, hey,
if this is what the stats look like, and this
kind of meanders its way through a few more weeks,
what are we doing in a month?
Speaker 1 (37:32):
What are we doing in six weeks?
Speaker 2 (37:34):
And as you were saying that, I kept thinking to myself, well,
I know what we're doing in two months. No matter
what Caitlin Clark is doing, I know what happens in
two months in this country, right training camps alone, Yes,
night night to everybody else, everything the.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
NBA on Christmas Day. Sorry done.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
So I'm looking at the WNBA schedule, which just got
started like about three weeks ago, and just like screaming
through a lot of games, and that will continue through
the month of June and most of July, and then
(38:22):
in late July it stops.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Oh okay for a month.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
What right now, I'm imagining that's a just this year
Olympics thing.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Oh yes, right, yeah, right, I'm imagining.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
It's an Olympics thing.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
I don't think that they normally do a month for
the All Star break or something like that, and so
maybe this is normally different and this is just an
Olympics thing. But I'm looking at the regular season schedule
and it ends in mid September. Aphram, mid September is
when is when the WNBA is going to start its
(39:02):
playoffs in mid September.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
That is a death march in terms of attention and ratings.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Well, there won't even be any there will be no
place to watch the games, correct, there won't be available
broadcasting space.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
I mean you could stay on NBA TV. You could
stay there. That's where they are right now, as you mentioned,
so you can stay there.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
I mean, how many people have NBA TV.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
So this is kind of what we're getting at. Like,
I think that the WNBA and this is what's great.
This is to me, the overall thing that's great about
Caitlin Clark is just going to make everybody in the
WNBA do it different. And maybe that does mean private
planes and it means bigger salaries and maybe, I mean,
(39:55):
I think this is the start of it.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Are they Are they going to make money this year?
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Probably not.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
That's that's the question.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Right.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
We can do the charter planes and all of those things,
but are we going to make money on the league
this year? That's yet to be seen.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah, correct, And and and so I would argue they're
laying a lot of foundation for it right now.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
But will they do it this year? Will they not
do it?
Speaker 2 (40:29):
I mean, probably not, but especially when they get to
their playoffs right in the middle of the start of
the NFL season.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
All Right, you got to hear this audio coming up next.
All right, let's ride.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
We keep it moving here on Fox Sports Radio on
a Sunday night. Whatever you're doing tonight, if it's time
to start getting everything back in order for another week
of school and work, or if you're already schools out
for summer, congratulations, whatever you're doing tonight, thank you so
much for doing it with us. We're broadcasting live from
the ti rak dot com studios. Tyrag dot com will
(41:04):
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tyrak dot com the way tire buying should be. All right,
we were talking out trash talk last hour, right, So
you even mentioned in there that you were a trash talker,
which doesn't surprise me. But I don't know if we've
(41:24):
ever had that conversation before.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
What what what what?
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Because you're in that little spot where you're like face
mask to face mask with a dude, So like, how'd
that go?
Speaker 1 (41:38):
And and and did you pick and choose?
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Was it based on who the opponent was and whether
or not you thought you could get somewhere with your words?
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Now I never started Okay.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Okay, you you were a responding.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
No, because I'm just focused in on it. But if
somebody's got somebody wolfin again and very it's not a
lot of guys who did it, but it was a few,
and you know I would just you know, jump in there,
and I was more subtle, right Like I'm a master
(42:14):
at psychological warfare. So you can beat your chest and
you ain't nothing, and you trash and you ain't you know,
you sorry and you weak and all of that. You know,
it's this is the PG version, okay, And none of
none of the trash talk sounds like this Okay, a
lot of words we can't say here, so it's aggressive.
(42:38):
And for me, I would always when someone is spewing
venom at you, if you laugh, it sends them over
the edge. Right even on Twitter, if somebody's calling you
the most derogatory things and telling you how dumb you are,
(43:00):
and if you send a laughing face emoji, that next
tweet from them, it will be ten times what the
first one was. Completely because you're unbothered and they want
to bother you.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
That's the whole point, right right, So they're gonna ramp
it up.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
So I'd be blocking somebody and they'd be like.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Oh, you can blow blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
And then a player go by and he run the
ball will be ran right on the left side, right
on my side, and running back goals for twenty yards
or you know, fifteen or whatever. And I'd be like, oh, man,
you almost had him as we're walking, as we're walking
to the ball, right, you almost had him on that
one man, right, stuff like that past blocking quarterback throws
(43:47):
a deeper, we score touchdown, we're running down the field,
I'm like, whoof one more second? That's a sack guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
Right.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
It's that type of as they're spitting and spewing, and
it's those type of things, right. And you know, say
he does, you know, catch the running back and you
know he tackles him for a one yard loss or
or one yard game or whatever. It's like, yeah, I
told you, hey, man, sixty more plays to go, right,
(44:18):
you're one for sixty, you know, ten more to goal.
Let's see if you get a book, rights, It's the
subtleness of speaking the facts.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Well, it's precisely what we've been talking about tonight with
regard to the idea of not letting it get to you,
never let him see you sweat, right, And so I
wondered how this one grabs you. Did you see this
stuff from Tommy Fam today?
Speaker 1 (44:47):
No? You see this.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
You know who Tommy fam is, right, outfielder, a little
bit of a journeyman. He's now with the Chicago White Sox.
And I don't know if you've looked at the MLB
standings recently, but the White Sox, or tragic story, one
of the worst baseball teams we've ever seen in our
damn lives. The season has barely come together as of yet,
(45:09):
in their run differential has already minus one.
Speaker 1 (45:12):
Hundred thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
They have won fifteen baseball games so far this year.
And some would wonder how they're that bad. They're that bad,
so understand that aspect of it. They're on an eleven
game losing streak by the way that I can only
imagine adds to the quick trigger and the frustration.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
But he got sent around third today late in.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
A game where they're trailing Milwaukee four to three, so
he would have been the tying run. And it is
probable that the third base coach was like, look, we're
not going to get another hit, so just go see
if you can score, even though you're probably going to
be out. And and he was, and he was out
by quite a bit. And when he was out, the
(46:04):
catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, along with some members of
the bench, kind of gave.
Speaker 1 (46:10):
Him probably a little bit of an ephrom.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
Oh boy, boy, if you had just gotten around third
a little bit quicker, you might have.
Speaker 1 (46:22):
Made it, but you didn't. Almost inning over. We'll put
it in the almost column.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
And so they asked Tommy famb about it after the game.
Make sure you can work your way through the beeps
because there will be a couple of them. This is
what Tommy said when asked about it in the clubhouse.
Speaker 7 (46:41):
One run ball game, close play at the plate, and
I actually wasn't close.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
There's a shallow fly ball into left field.
Speaker 7 (46:49):
You would expect a left fielder to throw the base
runner out on that play, but the situation at the game, third.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Base coach would send you, you gotta go.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
I'm nailed out at home by a mile.
Speaker 7 (47:01):
I'm going to the dugout, and you know, I hear
the tough guy with all the who runs. You know,
So I'll never start anything, but I'll be prepared to
finish it. There's a reason why you know, I do
all kinds of fighting in the off season because.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
I'm prepared for somebody up. So I'm gonna take it
as what it is.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
Oh well, hello.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
Exactly exactly right. There's the reason why I do so
much fighting in the off season because I'm prepared to
bleeve somebody up.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Now.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
Remember this is the same dude that a couple of
years ago in Cincinnati game against the San Francisco Giants,
and it's an hour and a half before first pitch,
and all of a sudden in the outfield.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
He just open handed.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
Slaps Jack Peterson like Wow, upside the head. Come to
find out that it was because of a disagreement over
fantasy football the year before.
Speaker 1 (48:01):
Wow, So my man's.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
My man runs hot. My man runs hot? But how
how's that one? How's that one?
Speaker 1 (48:12):
Grab you? That's great?
Speaker 3 (48:15):
You think, yeah, because he like on site, right, I'm ready,
tough guy. He was like a tough guy over here.
I wish you could have seen the video the man.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
The man's getting restrained by everybody in the whole organization
because they know too. They're like, my man runs hot,
somebody better get out there is gonna kill someone, and
so they keep him away. But he starts walking out
to the outfield, presumably for the next half inning, and
he's like he from he likes shadow boxing.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
He's walking out to the left field like, oh, he.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Looked like remember Bob Barker and Happy Gilmore he knocked
out Adam Sandler and and Bob's walking off the golf
course like ha hot, Like he's shadow by that's what
look like.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
And I'm just like, I mean, this is fun, but
that man is crazy.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
I would tune into baseball for that. This man is crazy. Yeah, crazy,
that's exciting.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
That's great, great.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
Man, But you know what I mean, you're looking at
it from and this is what I said also about
what's going on in the WNBA. This isn't bad for entertainment,
but I do think on an individual level for certain
players it is. And same for Tommy, Like I would
(49:42):
much rather see my favorite players do what you did.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Somebody come at you.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Just smile, smile and know that you still got them
under your thumb. Matt flying around, shadow boxing, forearms, shiver
peoples from behind, like the they got you, they got
to you, is what that tells.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
I mean, his man open hand slapped someone before the game.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
So in warm ups over fantasy football.
Speaker 3 (50:19):
Now that is certifiable right there.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
Some guys it's like Antonio brown Man, I laughed so hard.
Speaker 1 (50:29):
I'm like, some guys don't know why they're on a
different team every year. Seriously, Yeah, they're like, why do
you know why you're on? You do?
Speaker 3 (50:37):
Right?
Speaker 2 (50:37):
You get it? You understand why you're on a different
team every year? Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
I mean, look, but look what the what it was?
So you want to, you know, give new meaning to
the seventh inning stretch through a couple of boxing gloves
out there, and uh, anybody, if you've got a problem,
anybody from the opposing team, just one you get you
pick one from your dugout. We picked one from ours,
and we go one two minute round with the boxing glove.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Look, I know there are plenty of people, you know,
especially in the sport of baseball, they're like that, that's perfect.
But I mean, look, we've been talking all our about
Tnnity Carter right yep, okay, twenty twenty, she's with Atlanta.
Twenty twenty one. She had eleven games with Atlanta. They're like,
(51:36):
let's get her out of here. Then she went to
LA They started her for two games, Let's get her
out of here. Now she's with Chicago. She has played
seven games, and she is now part of one of
the most famous moments in the history.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Of the league.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Do you know why you're on a different team every year?
It seems you don't.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
Sometimes you can't see it.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
Oh man, sometimes you can't see it.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Some might accuse this person we're going to talk about
next of not being able to see it. You brought
his name up already once on this show at a
big statement was made about him this week. I'll run
it by you next see if you agree. That's see
from Salam. I'm Mark Willard and Thoroughbrid Racing has a
(52:28):
new independent regulator HAISA that is implementing comprehensive reforms, and
the sport is combining hands on care with cutting edge
technology to help keep its athlete safe. To learn more
of visit safety runs First dot org. That Safety runs
First dot com. This is Fox Sports Radio, okay in
(52:49):
these tie rag dot com studios, Mark Willard and e
from Salam. Look, I don't fall for the hot take
game because I get it. It doesn't mean nothing interesting
or comes from it, but I get how the game
is played.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
And sometimes I hesitate to pull.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
The curtain back because these are our sisters and brothers
in this industry, and I'm not trying to take money
out of anybody's pocket. But I wonder if everybody knows
that all of the hot tape, like the artists that
really get to you, like the whole show is about
not letting other people get under your skin. Today, like
(53:28):
all of that stuff he said, what he's trying to
get under your skin. He's trying to get quoted on
social media. He's trying to get your attention. So when
Skip Bayless says that Draymond Green is the dirtiest player
in the history of the NBA, I eat from salami.
Speaker 1 (53:51):
I chuckle, I chuckle. Good job, Skip, good job, you
got quoted.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
We'll talk about it at a certain point, though, once
we get past the hot takery of the whole thing.
I do think that tucked into these things sometimes are
very interesting conversations. Who gets your vote dirtiest player history
of the NBA.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Hmm manon, No, no, okay, no, it was the reason
that Draymond stuff looks so crazy. It is because no
one else is doing it. Because the flagrant one, flagrant
(54:35):
two system. Half of the things Draymond has done wouldn't
even have gotten you kicked out of the game. Oh
that's true, So mom, have to keep things in context. Now,
it's been some egregious things, yes, sure, but when you
(54:57):
talk about the dirtiest player, we're not talking about the
most penalized player, the most suspended player. Because there was
a time where it was just get up, dust it off.
That's a foul on you get to the free throw line.
So you have to keep that in mind when you
talk about remember when Jordan was going to the basket
(55:18):
and he turned his body away from Bill Lambert, who
had both of his elbows up, ready to decapitate him.
But his athleticism and ingenuity and creativity saved him from
double black eyes. Right, so you have to you know,
(55:38):
Charles Barkley spit on a girl who was sitting courtside,
and it was slamming people, choked slamming people in the game.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, they were there was a position
called enforcer. That's what your power forward was. In the
power forward. It wasn't because he was a rebounder. It
was because he was an enforcer. And so when you
(56:17):
say something like the dirtiest player based on these rules,
he's the dirtiest player currently playing. He's been penalized the most,
he's been suspended the most, I believe. But there's a
history of guys whose sole job was to go out
there and make your life hell. And so with that knowledge,
(56:42):
I'm an NBA fan. I've been watching for a long
time now. Skip Bayless is older than me. That's who
said it, right, he said, Skip Skip Bayless. I get it.
He's looking for more clicks. And views because I'm sure
(57:02):
the show is taking the hits and Shannon has moved on,
so you know, yeah, let's drum up some like it's
Draymond out of control, absolutely, especially in the current NBA
because nobody he barely foul and you know, it's very pleasant.
Draymond would fit right in in the eighties and nineties
(57:25):
of it all in the NBA, be fit right in.
So and to that point, okay, but it always seemed
like your enforcer, your power forward, had a screw lose.
You needed that, you had to recruit that, you had
to go and get that, and so that was go
(57:47):
pull up some of Barkley's thing. Just please, we love
Charles Barkley. We see him on TNT. It's a beautiful
it's funny, and just go back and watch some of
the stuff that he used to do.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
He didn't even keep it all on the court.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
He threw somebody through window, through a window, through it
at a restaurant. I'm always amazed by that story because
I'm like, well, y'all filming a movie or something, because
I feel like that's one of those things that like
somebody watched a movie and then tried it and in
real life, when you try it, the person would just
(58:22):
bounce off the window and be really really hurt, like,
thank goodness, the window broke. I think it probably hurt less.
But anyway, that's that's an aside. I get what you're saying,
Like that's that's when you put it in context. It's
like how how though, Like how is he the dirtiest player?
Speaker 3 (58:40):
Is he egregious?
Speaker 1 (58:41):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (58:41):
Is he you know, completely lost his mind in some aspects?
Speaker 1 (58:47):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (58:48):
Can he help himself? It doesn't seem like it, I mean,
because not usually. I mean, he's been suspended this year
multiple times. Steph cried on the court in the first
three minutes of a basketball game because he couldn't stop
his friend sopated. Yes, you know, yeah, to a point,
is in current NBA he's probably the dirty but ever, no,
(59:10):
absolutely not now.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
I don't even think he stands out Back in the
eighties and not mentioned you mentioned in all of that
the name that pops to my mind, But that's just
my mind. I don't want to act like I've seen
every single game in the history of ever, but in
my lifetime of watching basketball, my vote.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
Would go to Bill Lambier.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
Oh my good Absolutely, people don't know people listening right
now who don't man this dude, Hey, hey man, all
it's all he did. There were no layups, no, think
about this. Think in a game of layups and dunks.
There were no layups. No, absolutely not. So imagine what
(59:50):
that looks like, night in and night out. The Jordan rules.
You know exactly what the Jordan rules were. Hey, man,
when he leaves the ground, he gonna touch the ground.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
That's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
And it was not, Hey, if he's coming in here,
I'm gonna foul him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
It was if he's coming in here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
I'm gonna try to hospitalize him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
That was that. That was how they did it. That
was how they did it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
And yep, they got a nickname out of it, and
and and yes they were bad boys.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
And and all of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
But Dennis, what, oh my god, I.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Scissor leg torso is I never even I never Some
of these guys do it on the down low.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
I never saw this because no one was looking for it,
and he was a master of doing it where you
couldn't see it. But I am only going to vote
this because of the people I've talked to who played
against him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
I think John Stockton.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
Was dirtier than Traymond Green, right, man man, So you
Kevin McHale, Hey, look and look skip, and so knowing
Skip and knowing he's been you know, watching and reporting
on sports for a long type decades upon decades. You know,
(01:01:16):
it's just clickbait, you know it is, because it's no
way you can say that. And he's twenty years older
than me. Maybe I don't know how old he is,
but I'm forty seven, and so he's been doing this
and watching sports way longer than I have. So the
thing that sticks out about Gray Mind is like dray
(01:01:37):
Mind is, like I said, nobody's doing it. So it's like, oh,
here we go again. But if you were watching someone
on every team every night do it, then it would
just be the norm. You know who like a part
of our team. We have an enforcer, all right. So
when we roll up to a station and we getting
ready to do a show, right, we got a guy
(01:01:58):
we sent in first and cleared away, all right, black
and eyes, bloody noses, chip tooth. That was his nickname
growing up, teeth chipper, teeth chipper. And that's one Steven
tc de Sega.
Speaker 6 (01:02:15):
Wow, I will say, Bill Lambert is the first name
I thought of.
Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Of course, of course you're just like right, but what
does this? Does this float on Twitter in twenty twenty four?
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
I think Bill Lambert's nor.
Speaker 6 (01:02:33):
Nobody's interested in the truth. And when they talk about history,
they think history ends at the year they were born.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Well, and most people on social media they don't even
know who Bill Lambier was.
Speaker 6 (01:02:44):
Can we bring this full circle on tonight's show? Bill
Lambert is a former championship coach in the w NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
There you go, so you that right there, and that's
why that's why he's the enforcer.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
That's why he's the intimidation. That's right, the king of intimidation.
On this there is a video circulating of what the
WNBA used to look like and it was Candas Parker's
rookie year and his Candas and an opponent absolutely going
to the deck after one another.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Who was the coach of that team? Of course, Bill Lambier,
Bill Lambier.
Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
Let's update on the ice. Things are calm on the
ice comparatively. NHL Game six of the West Final at
Edmonton Oilers, with five minutes left second period, still leading
to nothing over top seeded Dallas ready to close out
the series tonight four games to two. Edmonton this postseason
would have a twelve and six record with a win tonight.
Now Florida won the Eastern Conference last night. We know
(01:03:43):
the Stanley Cup Finals starts Saturday. The NBA Finals don't
start till Thursday, when the Celtics hosts the Dallas Mavericks.
Game two of the series will not be till next
Sunday nights at Boston, that is correct, and then it's
a few days off of course, until Dallas starts hosting year.
You know, this is not as bad a layoff as
(01:04:03):
Golden State a few years ago, but yeah, it's one
of the longest that we've worked. I saw a list
that the eighty two Lakers apparently had eleven days off
before they started the finals and beat Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
So it doesn't mean.
Speaker 6 (01:04:15):
You're automatically gonna lose. It is a lot of time off,
just for the record. As for Major League Baseball, tonight
at Philadelphia, they're into the eighth inning and it's still
four to four Phillies and Cardinals. The Yankees won their
fifth straight game, seven to five at San Francisco with
four runs in the top of the ninth, Juan Soto
with two homers today save number seventeen for Clay Holmes
of the Yanks, as Era is one point three to
(01:04:37):
seven and the Giants starting pitcher Blake's now left in
the fifth inning with a groin injury. Wins at home
for the Dodgers in Seattle, wins on the road for
Tampa Bay four to three at Baltimore, and for Detroit,
which was down three to nothing early at Boston and
still beat the Red Sox in ten, eight to four.
Arizona with a two run home or top of the
ninth one at the Mets five to four, could tell
(01:04:58):
Marte the hero. Kansas City was three runs bottom of
the ninth, beat San Diego four to three, and Milwaukee
handed the White Sox their eleventh straight loss six to three.
Brewers have won five in a row in the WNBA.
Indiana is now two to nine after losing at New
York tonight one oh four to sixty eight. Caitlin Clark
was one of ten shooting from the floor yesterday as
(01:05:20):
the Fever got a one point win over Chicago. She
was two of two of nine from three point range.
She was one of seven from long distance. In tonight's
game Phoenix and Minnesota with wins Connecticut as well, Connecticut
eight to ohero in the WNBA. At the French Open,
Cocoa Goff won her fourth round match easily at the
NCAA Baseball Tournament Number one. Tennessee is hosting a regional
(01:05:43):
this weekend. Among the many games in progress right now,
Tennessee leads twelve to three bottom of the ninth against
Southern miss NASCAR win at Gateway for Austin Sindric as
Ryan Blaney ran out of gas late, allowing Sindric to
pass him for the victory. And let's get to the
College Sawlaul Shelby because there are two elimination games tonight.
Florida has already beaten Alabama, and right now it's Stanford
(01:06:05):
against UCLA. Stanford has a great pitcher, not good, great,
Nijerie Kennedy. They use her a lot. She already pitched
six innings in the opener this weekend and lost, and
the next day pitched six scoreless innings and they won
to stay alive. And she's the starting pitcher tonight. I
looked up her numbers at Stanford this year. She's pitched
(01:06:28):
her arm would have fallen off, as she's thrown overhand
by now. But she's pitched over two hundred innings and
only allowed about one hundred hits on the season and
struck out well over three hundred. In fact, literally every
other at bat against her all season ends up in
a strikeout. Opponents are batting one forty six against Kennedy
(01:06:51):
in Stanford games this year, but she's allowed an early
home run and Stanford is down one nothing top of
the third. That raises her era to about zero. I
went seven to five on the season. They gave a
stat tonight that in her two years at Stanford it's
the first time that she's given up a home run
the first time through the order in any game. With
as often as she throws, that's stunning anyway. The winner
(01:07:14):
here tonight will get number one Texas tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
Back to you. Okay, awesome stuff, thanks, Steve. Appreciate it
all right, so Steve, Yeah, go ahead, listen to this.
Go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Back in the eighties, all teams had an enforcer, a
player who didn't contribute much on the scoring department, but
one who would terrorize opponents and ensure his star teammates
didn't receive the same treatment from opposing enforcers. Charles Oakley
was one of the most notorious enforcers. Oakley was not
afraid to mix it up and get in the scuffles
(01:07:44):
on a regular basis. Oakley's lack of skill made him
resort to being one of the most physically imposing players ever,
but also one of the dirtiest NBA players ever.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
And I mean Rick Mahorn, right, I.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
Mean some of the time, like we're talking about the
dirtiest player and you're like, I'm not even sure they're
the dirtiest player on their own team, you know what
I mean, Like Charles Oakley's playing with Anthony Mason. I
can't figure out which one is the enforcer here.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
That was from an article Clutch Points fifteen dirtiest players
in NBA history. Draymond's on the list, Grayson Allen, Yes, sure,
that's different. That's a different kind of dirty.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
That one's just like annoyingly dirty for the sake of
being dirty.
Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
Like it's yeah, he he just you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
He's like, there are certain players where you're like it's
not working and it's just because that's the way you're wired.
And I find that to be worse, like I might
almost right, I'd rather you are actually doing something strategic.
Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
Yeah, yeah, it's uh. I mean, you know Karl Malone,
Chris Paul who notorious for being dirty, and I'm talking
about notorious Chris no doubt.
Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
So yeah that that you know what what what Colin said,
it's you know, it's nice, it's it's clickable, but he's not.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
In my opinion, it's laughable. To be honest with you,
Draymond Green, he might be like for a lot of people,
he might be the most annoying player in the history
of the league. You can have that opinion if you want,
you know, you could, you could call him I've heard
some people says the luckiest player in the history of
the NBA. Like he gets his position on the Warriors
(01:09:42):
because of injury to David Lee and uh, and then
plays his entire career with the best shooting backcourt in
the history of the league.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
All you have to do is this thing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
Yeah, right, and and then they went for championships and
he becomes a huge name and a twice, if not
three times highly paid contractual player in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:10:10):
Now, I don't think the Warriors do what they do
without him.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
No, but I also think that he could have played
what might have been a forgettable career if he had
ended up on a different team.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
Well yeah, it's all about the need, right, the need
and his basketball IQ number one arrivals anybody who's ever
played through the roof anybody who's ever played any era anything.
So just that alone, and back when he had his
athleticism was on par with his IQ, he was a
special player. Yep, he was a special player. He was
(01:10:43):
the glue. The offense ran through him, right, similar to what.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
We see defense by everything defense.
Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Everything the way he was able to get everybody uh
in their defensive rotations. Like, he is a masterful player.
Now that he's slow down a bit, not as spry,
not as quick, more and more antics come out right
instead of fighting across you and blocking you out, I'm
elbowing in the back of the head and you know,
(01:11:13):
grab you around your waist and spin your round. You
get what I'm saying. Like, so now you adjust and
it's highlighted more and it's you know, hey, I He
is definitely a dirty player, but he is also one
of the most intelligent players to ever play this game
(01:11:36):
basketball ays, which makes you wonder, like what is going on?
Like you know that if you get kicked out in
the first three minutes of the game and we're desperately
trying to make the playoffs like you know that though,
but I can't help yourself, can't.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Help I think there are certain people who, when agitated,
go to a certain place and sometimes that place has
no exit doors. That's it. Then place, Yeah, can't can't
get out of it. And I think Draymond's one of
(01:12:22):
those people. You know, he's always real good in the
press conference afterward apologizing, but.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
In a moment, he cannot get out of that place.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
So you know, sometimes people need to, uh, they.
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Need to take him out of that place for him.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
And that's what the NBA did like a whole bunch
of times this year. All right, Uh, we're in the
tire req dot com studios. Uh, much more to get to,
including coming up at the top of the hour. We'll
get into those finals that someday we'll start the Mavericks
and the Boston Celtics with e from Salama Mark Willard.
(01:13:01):
It's Fox Sports Radio all right, live ty reck dot
Com studios. We can get to a little NBA Finals
preview at the top of the hour, I wanted to
ask you this. You know, Steve was talking about the
red hot Yankees and they put up a four spot
in the ninth and won their fifth straight game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Wan Soto and Aaron Judge.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
Are ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. And I was thinking about with
the Yankees in their record, and sure, the Phillies have
the best record in the National League, best record in
baseball actually, so I don't want this to sound like
I'm brushing them off at all. There are some other
really good teams out there. Cleveland Guardians have a good team,
(01:13:46):
you know, the Brewers have played some pretty good baseball.
There are other teams around baseball, Mariners, but the Yankees
and the Dodgers and the star power that these two
teams have, and you've made a lot of statements I
feel like so far this season where even though I
(01:14:08):
know you know, at the youth level, you're very into
the game, but your relationship with the professional level of
the sport seems to be struggling a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
Is that is that fair?
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
To what level would a Yankees Dodgers World Series?
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
Oh my god, what would that? What would that do
for you? Oh everything really? Oh yeah, I would want
some of that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Okay, why the two of the most storied franchises in
baseball history. I mean, this is that's what you want.
That's what Major League Baseball wants. The star power LA
New York, the cities. Yeah, I'd go to some of
(01:15:02):
them games. See, it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
And the Yankees were here where I live in San
Francisco this week and I've never seen the ballpark look
like that before. If you pan out when Juan Soto
down five to four, got a hold of one off
the Giants closer today, Camilla Devall, if you pan out,
you know how they have like that little shot right
next to the batter's box.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Yeah, and he connects and you can.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
See the crowd down the right field line behind him.
You wouldn't know which ballpark they were playing in. You
wouldn't know are they in San Francisco or New York.
Enough people stood up with their arms up in the
air where you would think that that game might have
been played in New York. And we're not talking about
(01:15:48):
a stadium that struggles with attendance, like that's not that's
not And it's seventy five degrees out today it's beautiful.
So I got into this conversation on Friday with regard
to the Yankee brand and more so wondering aloud if
(01:16:11):
it still sits where it used to and part of it.
You and I are of a certain age, and so
sure we get it because when we were born, we
were at least in the shadow of when the Yankees
and the Dodgers just played every year, and then as
we came up through like high school and college, there
(01:16:31):
was Derek Jeter and another dominant Yankee run. The Yankees
have won twice since the year two thousand. They've won
nothing in fifteen years, and so I would argue to
a degree for the younger fan, the Yankees have a
little bit of a notre.
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
Dame thing going on.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Yeah, oh yeah, which it's like we're the greatest brand
in the sport. And it's like, explain it to me
because I don't, right, I don't. I don't know that,
but gosh, it feels like the acquisition of Juan Soto
and Shoho Tani side by side, and the way these
(01:17:13):
two teams are playing. I don't know if there could
be like a rebirth. I don't know if it's all
that dead. It's not dead by any stretch, but it's not.
It feels like it's a downward trend. Let's put it
that way.
Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
Well, Look, the funny thing is the Dodgers play at
the Yankees next Sunday. So yeah, that's uh, we'll get
to talk about that a little bit. We'll get to
talk about that a little bit. Yeah, you know. And look,
I my affinity for baseball is growing because, like you said,
(01:17:51):
I didn't play it growing up at any level, at
any moment, and so I got really into it when
my kids about seven eight years ago, my kids start playing. Yep,
and now I coach and which I think it might
be done. Like my ninth my nine year old said Dad,
(01:18:16):
I think my twelve year old he was done a
long time. He was just like, yeah, it's not for me.
But my nine year old, who we've won championships and
all of these things, said, hey, Dad, I think I
think it might be done. I think it's my last
year playing baseball.
Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
No way.
Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
Yeah, I thought you were going to say your nine
nine year old said Dad, I think I'd like to
play for somebody else next year. No, Why is he
done at age nine?
Speaker 3 (01:18:45):
Nine, he said, I said, I want to focus more
on basketball because we don't do both when at it's
a little carryover in the basketball season runs into the
beginning of baseball, but once we do, like it's too much,
Like I'm not gonna have you on baseball practice on Tuesday,
basketball practice on Wednesday, Thursday games on like it's just
(01:19:05):
it's too much. And I wouldn't I get it done
to me as a coach. A coach, we won't be
here for the basketball game because you know we're playing
travel baseball and all. Yeah, so I wouldn't I wouldn't
disrespect the team, uh like that having him play both. Uh,
And I don't want to coach both at the same
time because I would like to sleep and to have
(01:19:28):
some a minute to myself too much. And so he
just was like, I want to focus more on basketball,
and I said, I said, all right, man, look, you
don't have to make that choice now. You got plenty
of time to decide. You know, maybe next you know,
next year, when it comes to around that time you
(01:19:51):
want to go back and play, then you can go
back and play. But you know, and he was sad
last night. Last night was closing closing ceremonies at Shermanok's.
So he was he was overcome with sadness when we
were driving home because he realized that that was the
last time he was going to experience that, and his
friends and teammates and and all of that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
So, you know, that's a big moment. That's a big moment. Man,
speaking to big moments. NBA Finals could be tough for
Laker fans. We'll get into it next. All right, let's
keep cooking wherever you are tonight and whatever you're doing
is your Sunday night starts to wind down. Thank you
(01:20:34):
for being with us on Fox Sports Radio. We're broadcasting
live from the ti rag dot com studios. Ti rag
dot com will help you get there and on match selection,
fast free shipping, free oadazard protection in over ten thousand
recommended installers tyre raq dot com. The way tire buying
should be now he from I missed it. What did
Steve say? He said that Mavericks and Celtics started about
(01:20:57):
three weeks or.
Speaker 1 (01:20:58):
Was it four? When's the game? Do we have a man?
NBA does this to you?
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
It feels like once a year, some series or whatnot,
things kind of get done early and you're sitting around
waiting forever. But it's rare that it happens like this,
where it's the NBA Finals and both of the conference
finals are quick, and so what I think is kind
of an unhealthy wait, But I get it. There's not
a whole lot you can do about it. You got
(01:21:27):
to set the dates ahead of time, and so now
we wait. I do also wonder. I wondered about you.
If you're a Laker fan. The Celtics are just a big.
Speaker 1 (01:21:39):
Old no no no.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
That's a no no, And so I know that you'll
you'll you'll root for Dallas over Boston because.
Speaker 1 (01:21:48):
Boston, I get it. But at the same.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Time, like we're talking about Luca and Kyrie, these are
these are these are Laker adversaryes, and Luca is on
the list when you ask NBA fans, hey, who's the most.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Annoying dude in the league. He's clearly gonna make my
multiple choice test if I'm the teacher, for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
So how are you like grappling with this one?
Speaker 3 (01:22:30):
Look, we saw the thing that bothers me about players
like that, it's there can't be something wrong after every play,
(01:22:50):
like it can't be right I mean bruh, right, exactly.
And so to me, the thing I really hate about
it is when you don't get a call and you
stop and you turn around and you looking at the
ref and you having a whole conversation while the actual
game is going on down the other end, like you're
(01:23:12):
playing no defense, like you're it's going to be five
on four going the other way, because you know, a
lot of those times he doesn't even come across half
court before the other team takes a shot. And to me,
I just that's not it. That's not it for me.
Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
And so.
Speaker 3 (01:23:30):
It's just he is annoying. I mean, he's tremendously skilled,
Like it is crazy. He's I'm scared because he's wearing
down and you can see it. Me is banged up
a little bit.
Speaker 7 (01:23:46):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:23:47):
You know, this is usually around the time of year
where he runs out of gas. Having Kyrie there has
helped them this year because it's usually just him alone
and in the playoffs, having Kyrie to pick up the slack,
(01:24:11):
whether it be in the first half second half, has
been a tremendous thing for for for uh, the Mavericks
this year.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
And so it's not always it's not on his shoulders.
They're big men. Unbelievable, unbelievable. They played very very well,
and you know, I'm not sure are they. Sam Porzingis
will be back by then, so just we could.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Ask Steve, I haven't gotten anything.
Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
Definitively yes, so you know that was completely an achilles injury.
Just just just to throw that in my estimation when
you talk about same with Giannis, that calf strain, right
lower calf strain. We heard that when KD had a
(01:25:02):
lower calf strain and came back in the playoffs and
ruptured his achilles.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
So what are you predicting here because the latest update
he did practice yep, And there's been nothing official, but
the latest report all signs point to christophs Porzingis playing
in Game.
Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
One, and that is that is great for the Boston Celtics.
But I keep my eye on just how effective he
will be, because in the back of his mind he's like, uh,
you don't want that thing to go and so I'll
(01:25:43):
keep an eye on that. But not that he plays
down low, but that high screening role between Kyrie and
Lively or Luca and Live like that is going to
be something they're going to have to monitor because that
was something even though they had two big supposedly two bigs,
(01:26:03):
including one defensive player of the Year in Rudy Goberty,
they had no answer for it. Minnesota had no answer.
So I'd love to see now they both have wing
players who can get their own shot with Tatum and
Brown and Luca and Kyrie. So this is this is
(01:26:24):
going to be a tremendous series. I'm looking forward to it.
Star power all around, sure, all right, and that's what
you want in the finals, you want star power. And
in the NBA we also love narrative building.
Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
Yes, believe me, this is this is what we love
to do, right and we loved a small sample the.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
Hell out of it whenever possible. So my favorite one
I went off about it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
As you remember last week, Luca and Kyrie have a
good playoff run. They're now the greatest backcourt in the
history of the NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Okay whatever, I don't know and feel the need to
respond to it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:01):
It's such a stupid statement, but fine, we'd love to
grab what we see this week and make our statement.
And I think that the player that stands out to
me when it comes to that in twenty twenty four
fair or foul is Jason Tatum Kyrie' has already got
(01:27:21):
a ring. Jyalen Brown, whether he is or not, is
considered a two. Luca still incredibly young, and most people
are at least somewhat surprised that he's.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Here right now.
Speaker 2 (01:27:40):
So it feels like there's this measure of overachievement. Pressure's
on Jason Tatum. You're supposed to be here, you are,
it's your second time that you've been.
Speaker 1 (01:27:54):
Here in three years.
Speaker 3 (01:27:57):
That you have you want on a team, right, yeah,
all of those things, and.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
You have largely not been your best self in your
biggest games. And I don't think he helps himself when
he publicly lets everyone know that he's trying to channel
Kobe every time a big game's happening, especially in.
Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
A Celtics uniform.
Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
It's like, I don't even know who is it that
you're doing that for. If it's just yourself, then okay,
that's fine.
Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
Do you.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
I don't think it's working. Your fan base doesn't want
to hear it. The Laker fan base doesn't want to
hear it. But whatever, do your thing. It has not
been great, and so we're always looking for who sort
of has that X marks the spot on his back
going into a series like this.
Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
For me, it's clearly Jason Tatum, Oh yeah, this is it.
You need to do this because they they they've gotten
so close. But then you look at a situation where
they've made adjustments, right, They've gotten better, They got rid
of some some pieces that made them contenders and added
(01:29:14):
new pieces in and those holiday persingas they had the
best record in the league, like they've They're doing all
the things, and now it's up to you as the
star to deliver everything you can want. They've done. Now
it's up to you to deliver. And that's a lot
of pressure.
Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
It's a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
I would hope he wouldn't deliver until he's a free
agent he comes to LA but you know, oh gosh,
of course you knew it was coming. Fans, I mean,
but look, he's a probably a bigger Laker fan.
Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
Than any.
Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
Probably go figure like Paul Waers, a Laker fan playing
for the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
You know what, It's interesting, Actually a good time to
bring this up. My girl says to me the other day,
and I told you that I had this kind of
conversation about the Yankees on the air where I'm like, look,
Aaron Judge and Juan Sota are fantastic, their record's great.
This has nothing to do with how they're playing this year,
but let's check in on their brand, Like is it
(01:30:24):
what it used to be? And everybody who's had their
fortieth birthday is like, Mark, duh, of course it is.
Speaker 1 (01:30:32):
And I'm like, I'm not talking to you, you're already in.
Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
You're in, But go ask a twenty eight year old
about the Yankee brand, Like none of them have had
a driver's license since they won a World Series, So like,
do they have that same feeling that we do, which
is just like the Yankees always have all the good players,
They've got all the cachet. Clearly they're the Yankees. They're
(01:31:00):
the biggest brand in baseball. The Dodgers are right there
next to them. I fully acknowledge that, but as compared
to what it used to be. And so my girl
actually made the statement, She's like, there is no other
Yankees in sports as far as a brand, Like they
feel like they invented their own sport.
Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
These were her words.
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
And I go, yeah, to to people a certain age,
I understand what you're getting at but I responded immediately
and I said, Cowboys in football and Lakers in basketball?
Is that Is that a fair comparison or no?
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Yeah, I would say that. I would say that just
like the Celtics rival the Lakers, you have that you know,
Dodger rivalry of in terms of brand recognition for the Yankees.
So yeah, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Interesting though, like for whatever, I don't know if this
is the entire metric to you, but usually those things
are are also sort of synonymous with franchise values. I'm
sure the Yankees have the highest franchise value in baseball.
I'm sure the Cowboys have the highest franchise value in.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
In the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
All sports, the Lakers, the Lakers and Celtics aren't first
or second in the NBA. The Knicks are ahead of
both of them. Yeah, New York, the Warriors are significantly
ahead of everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:32:35):
Yeah wild Ye, Well, the championships in the place that
that where that money, I mean, that's where all the
money is.
Speaker 1 (01:32:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
Yeah, so why they got the new digs right, the
whole nine yards?
Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
Yeah, yep, no doubt. All right, there's been an update.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
You remember the conversation we were having last week, and
it was kind of centered around Christian McCaffrey and money
and running back and wide receivers and.
Speaker 1 (01:33:02):
Well, we've got, we've got.
Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
We've got more logs to add on the fire as
far as wide receivers and money, so we'll do that
coming up next. Thoroughbred Racing has a new independent regulator
HAISA that is implementing comprehensive reforms in the sport is
combining hands on care with cutting edge technology to help
keep its athletes safe. To learn more of, is it
(01:33:24):
Safety runs first dot com? That Safety runs First dot
Com alongside eat from Salama Mark Willard. This is Fox

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):

Speaker 2 (01:33:37):

goes up. And if you missed any of the show,
be sure to check out the podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:33:47):

Speaker 1 (01:34:18):
From another I knew that's your part. Oh man, when
is the when is the bubble gonna burst on the
wide receivers?
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
Like it wasn't that long ago that Tom Brady had
the whole world believing like, Wow, it doesn't even matter
who your receivers are as long as you got Tom
Brady in a defense. And now I mean, I'm on
Ross Saint Brown, bang, Jalen Waddle bang.
Speaker 1 (01:34:53):
And I know if you're seeing these deals.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
On the internet, three year, eighty four point seventy five
million dollar deal, Jaylen Waddle not really, not really. These
wide receiver deals this offseason have been filled with so
much funny money it's not even.
Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
Funny, right, So sounds good.
Speaker 1 (01:35:15):
It sounds great.
Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
But even I didn't know this till recently, even that
thirty Air quotes thirty million a year that Tyreek Hill got, No,
he didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:35:25):
Good God, they can.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
Cut him pretty soon.
Speaker 1 (01:35:31):
Here for way less than that.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
His guarantee, his like actual guarantee is barely over fifty
million dollars.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
You can go look into it.
Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
However, the aav that these guys are in theory potentially
playing with shades the market you're seeing certain receivers every
year right now. It was two years ago that one agent,
Tory Dandy, had AJ Brown, DK Metcalf and Deebo Samuel
got them all deals and it set the market along
(01:36:07):
with Tyreek Hill going forward. And now every off season
seemingly you've got you know, you've got a handful of
receivers that all have their hands out. San Francisco, for example,
dealing with it again right now with Brandon Ayuk and
he wants a lot and he's probably going to get
(01:36:29):
a lot now. That brought up the conversation we had
last week though about the running back position, which is
experiencing the opposite right now. Sa Kwon Barkley couldn't get
paid new team, Josh Jacobs couldn't get paid new team.
Christian McCaffrey rumored to be a holdout mandatory voluntary changes
(01:36:53):
to mandatory Tuesday. We shall see what he does. And
he's the highest paid running back in the league, and
he might be holding out for more, and he essentially
makes about half what a good wide receiver makes. Bubble's
gotta burst at some point, right it'll burst. So when
(01:37:14):
and how San.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
Francisco wins the Championship or any of the teams that
have star wars at running back. If the running backs
outperform the receivers, it shifts. That's just how it goes.
That's how it goes. So you know, right now it's
(01:37:42):
you know, because everything is predicated on the quarterback. So
you know, tight ends and receivers are really hot right now.
But let a team let Baltimore win the championship, win
the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:37:56):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
Well, Okay, I'm confused because even though the Kansas City
Chiefs have won a bunch of Super Bowls now and
there hasn't been some hot shot running back that took
him there, there also hasn't been a hot shot receiver.
Speaker 3 (01:38:14):
No, just Tyrek h But they dumped him and won
two more. Yep, So it's it's shifting a little bit.
But the outlier there is Patrick Mahomes. No one has
a Patrick Mahomes, that's true. So and anything like no
one had a Tom Brady. Yeah right, it's easy to say, yeah, uh,
(01:38:38):
you know, you don't need an you know, you don't
need a star receivers and you know you've got a
Tom Brady. It's one Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (01:38:49):
Yeah. But okay, ever, let me go with you on that.
So if you don't have Patrick, how do you battle that.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
Let's look at the teams that are at least in
theory we think close to battling them. Start with the
San Francisco forty nine Ers. They run the ball more
than they throw it. Let's go next to the Buffalo Bills,
they just dumped all their receivers. Let's go to the
(01:39:20):
Baltimore Ravens. A lot of fans couldn't even name a
receiver on that team.
Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
The teams that are closest to trying to dethron Patrick.
I get that the forty nine ers might be about
to pay their second receiver.
Speaker 1 (01:39:41):
A lot of money.
Speaker 2 (01:39:42):
They're probably gonna have to dump one of them after
the year, though, and Brandon Aiyuk had a special year
in terms of his yardage totals, but not targets and
catches because they don't. They don't use the receiver like that.
So why and all these other teams does the receiver
(01:40:03):
become so special? When I would argue, there's not a
lot of evidence out there right now that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:12):
The special receiver is equaling winning.
Speaker 7 (01:40:21):
It.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
It doesn't.
Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
It doesn't. But that's what the flash is that's what
the gotta get quarterback to receiver, gotta get it, got.
Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
To make it happen.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
It's not running back, so it's got to be something else.
And that's the hot position right now. It's not enough
great tight ends to sprinkle around, right. You get one
of those, you hold on to them forever, right, well
five of those in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
I don't know if there's enough great receivers to It's
some really good. They're very very good, really good Tyreek,
Ceedee Lamb. These two teams make the playoffs. Flashy records,
can't beat anybody good, can't beat anybody good.
Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
Philadelphia Eagles ball control, run the ball a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
There's an idea, right DeVante Adams goes to the Raiders
that does nothing. You know, the Eagles are paying two
receivers stopped playing in November. The Chargers decided let's not
do the receiver thing.
Speaker 1 (01:41:29):
And I'm willing to bet they'll be better this year,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
Like, I'm not saying I'm not against these guys at all.
You need them, Like there are examples of the opposite,
the Chicago Bears, Like my God, give your guys some
weapons for crying out loud.
Speaker 1 (01:41:47):
So they finally have and that's good. I think these
players are really.
Speaker 2 (01:41:52):
Important, but gosh, they're being paid like the next thing
after quarterbacks, and I don't think they're not.
Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
And you look at the teams that are paying them
and what they're where they are in terms of the
quarterback that they're paying as well, you know, because those
two things go hand in hand, Like, you know, the
type of money you make, the type of money I
make pills in comparison to the type of money our
(01:42:27):
quarterback makes, you're going to offend him. And that's one
Steven QB the seger.
Speaker 6 (01:42:35):
Wow, I really genuinely did not recognize where you were going.
Speaker 1 (01:42:42):
I genuinely.
Speaker 3 (01:42:45):
He didn't even have his headphones and he didn't even
have his headphones on.
Speaker 6 (01:42:48):
He was just like, Oh, they're talking about somebody else.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
Oh crap. Turn.
Speaker 6 (01:42:56):
By the way, when you reference the name Tom Brady,
there can I point out that the softball superstar for
UCLA for a couple of years plus now has been
Maya Brady, his niece. I looked it up. She's betting
four to twenty five this year superstar. This is in
about fifty five games, nearly seventy RBIs amazingly against defending
champ Oklahoma yesterday and the loss, she was zero for
(01:43:18):
four with three strikeouts, and tonight against Stanford Star Pitchers,
she's oh for three with three strikeouts, and UCLA's on
the verge of being eliminated. They're going to the final
inning Stanford three to one in the lead. Already. Earlier tonight,
Florida eliminated Alabama six to four at the NCAA Baseball
Tournament Number one Tennessee one again to advanced. It was
(01:43:38):
hosting a regional this weekend, as were other winners. Virginia
and Kansas State each advance NC State and Georgia as well.
Clemson is advanced Florida State. There are other games still
going on. Meanwhile, We've got an NHL game going on
that's Edmonton two to one over Dallas, three and a
half minutes left in regulation. Florida won the Eastern Conference
(01:43:58):
last night at Edmonton has a chance to wrap up
the West Final tonight. They're up three games to two.
They've been leading the whole game, even though they barely
had any shots. They're getting out shot by Dallas thirty
three to ten. In fact, the Oilers went over sixteen
minutes between shots at one point of this game, but
they're up to one. The crowd's going crazy at Edmonton
(01:44:19):
three and a half minutes left. The NBA finals don't
start till Thursday. In the WNBA, Indiana is now two
to nine after losing badly at New York one oh
four to sixty eight. Caitlin Clark one of ten shooting
from the floor at the French Open Cocoa Golf winner
fourth round match easily. Simone Biles won the US Gymnastics
(01:44:40):
title tonight for the ninth time. The Olympic Trials are
late this month. In Minnesota. Austin Sindric took the NASCAR
race at Gateway in Illinois. Ryan Blaney ran out of
gas late in the race, allowing Sindric to pass him
for the victory, his first since Daytona two years ago.
In Major League Baseball, Saint Louis in ten innings one
at phil at Alfia five to four. The Yankees won
(01:45:02):
their fifth in a row, seven to five at San
Francisco thanks to four runs top of the ninth. At
Kansas City, the Royals scored three in the bottom of
the ninth to beat San Diego four to three. Arizona
with a two run homer top of the ninth, beat
the Mets in New York five to four. Washington was
a winner at Cleveland five to two, Tampa Bay one
at Baltimore four to three. Milwaukee handed the White Sox
(01:45:24):
and eleventh straight loss six to three. White Sox record
now fifteen and forty five and three. Other quick notes
as far as Christops Porzingis against Boston is hosting games
one and two of the NBA Finals Thursday night and
next Sunday night. Porzingis has been out ten games with
what is called a strain calf. At Friday's practice, or
(01:45:47):
at least the portion the media was allowed to observe,
he was still quote mostly limited to individual shooting, but
the team said he was progressing. And then yesterday's practice
they said was very hard, but he did everything. The
team did quote, we will go significantly harder in practice tomorrow,
meaning Sunday. And I haven't seen an update on today.
(01:46:09):
You were talking first round a first hour about the
first rounder Caitlyn Clark and the reactions to her by
w NBA players. Somebody had just tweeted yesterday pointing out
that in the early days of women's pro tennis, Billy
jen King told the original players, Hey, embrace this new kid,
Chris Evert, because she's raising the bar for our sport.
(01:46:31):
And then today Chris Evert herself tweeted in answer, Yes,
there was jealousy towards me. It didn't feel good. I
was just a teenager. Billy jen King stood up for me.
I hope women's basketball follow suit. Caitlin Clark is making
their sport better.
Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
End quote.
Speaker 6 (01:46:48):
And finally, this programming note. Next Saturday, June the eighth,
on Fox TV, they'll have three events. First, MLB in London.
The Phillies are in London next weekend against the Mets,
and Fox will have the Saturday game at twelve thirty
pm Eastern. Fox will also have the Belmont Stakes from
New York, the last race of the Triple Crown six
(01:47:10):
pm Eastern, and then they'll go straight to Yankee Stadium
after that for Dodgers at Yankees. Those three events on
Fox TV this coming Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
Back to you, all right. Steve steven Rich de Seger.
Speaker 3 (01:47:27):
Called money bags.
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Phenomenal stuff tonight. Thank you as all. I just appreciate
it so much. Yeah, there he goes off to go
buy more stuff, no doubt on the internet. More live
on the tirak dot com studios.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
It is Mark withard Andy from salam Yeah. Now, interesting
comments that that he was just bringing up with regard
to Chris Evert and how that might apply now to
to Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
Again.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
I guess maybe this was predictable. It's true in sports
or anything else, somebody brings something new and everybody acts
like it's just the great new thing. It ticks off
who's ever been there for a while. So I like,
I understand that, and we are asking them to ride
(01:48:20):
a fine line because, as you even have said a
couple of times, and I agree with you, it's not
like we're asking WNBA players to just like play olay
defense and let her walk by and score. Play your
game and be physical. But where does where does it
(01:48:43):
come from? What I saw yesterday and what America saw yesterday,
I do not believe that that came from physical play
and like sending a young player through that initiation process,
I saw.
Speaker 1 (01:49:03):
Someone who is just like.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
This uh privileged, senseless attention person, just trash trash talk
to me. So I'm going to I'm gonna shoulder her
in the back and knock her to the floor. And
that's that, to me, is what the w n B A.
It's it's not gonna it's not gonna work. It's not
gonna work for those individuals. Might work actually for the
(01:49:29):
league more so than the individuals.
Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
I what I saw was, you know, veteran player being
trash talked by a rookie and look, I'm not gonna
do You're not gonna get away with it. You're not
gonna get away with it. You ain't just gonna say
anything to me. And look at okay, nobody was hurt.
Let's keep a pushing. It would have been better in
(01:49:52):
the press conference if she would have just said that correct,
it's like she hasn't been she hasn't played enough games
to talk to me like that like that. You would
have been like, oh, okay, we get it. Like that
would have made sense totally.
Speaker 1 (01:50:08):
Yeah for me.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
And I hate doing this as a member of the
media because people don't like it when the members of the.
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
Media are like, you need to speak in the press
conference like I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
That may not come off sounding good, but I do
think this whole thing got a lot worse when when
when Kennity Carter just wouldn't talk about it, Yeah, because
to me that confirmed that it is. It was because
it was about Kately Yeah, So I just an Angel
(01:50:42):
Reese right now. Same thing, Like this whole set of
young players has a real opportunity here and and angels
taking advantage of a lot of them.
Speaker 1 (01:50:56):
Cameron Brink.
Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
On the internet right now and check out her like
doing the whole hey get ready with me videos.
Speaker 1 (01:51:06):
Take a look at what I'm wearing tonight, So.
Speaker 2 (01:51:08):
That like it is going to create opportunities all of them,
generation opportunities for all of them.
Speaker 3 (01:51:16):
These young women are pushing to sport forward. Is what
you want from your younger class. We're here questioning who's
going to be the next face of the n b A.
R Lebron, Steph Kad The faces we know and love,
they're they're they're phasing out right. None of them were
in deep runs into the playoffs. Uh so you know
(01:51:41):
one team didn't even make the playoffs, So it's like.
Speaker 1 (01:51:47):
Who what what are the what are the.
Speaker 3 (01:51:49):
Faces the w n b A in terms of pushing
the league forward? Are the better situation outside of Victor
Winbin Yama uh uh than then the NBA when you
when it in terms of players coming into the league, like,
nobody knows who's gonna be, No one cares or knows
(01:52:10):
who's gonna be the you know, one of the top
picks in this year's the NBA draft, Right, nobody knows.
And so we're here at a situation where, all right,
we know the crop and a group of women who
were just drafted into the w n b A because
(01:52:30):
they had a spectacular uh college season these to these
past two years, a lot of buzz, a lot of
energy led by Caitlin Clark, the Angel reesis the whole
South Carolina team, and so now they're pushing the league
(01:52:50):
forward because they're younger athletes. Their younger players are coming
in with some shine in some you know, different marketing
strategies and so on and so forth. So I'm excited
for him. I hope it stays yep, And I hope
it's just not you know, it's just not due to
(01:53:17):
you know, Kaitlin Clark. I hope she's not the one
who is carrying the load because that's not fair.
Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
No, well, no, she's gonna need help.
Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
It's yeah, she's gonna need help at some point if
this is gonna be sustainable.
Speaker 1 (01:53:29):
Uh, for sure?
Speaker 2 (01:53:30):
All right with you from salam Mark Willard coming up next.
I was actually just asked on Twitter, why why is
Luca on uh on the.
Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
The list of who's the most annoying player in the NBA? Really?
Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
Maybe maybe we need to explain that further and uh
and we will coming up next on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
Tyrock dot com Studios.
Speaker 1 (01:53:57):
Why is Luca annoying?
Speaker 2 (01:54:04):
I mean, it's it's simple, right, And I don't think
that this is a slanted comment at all.
Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
Have you seen this cat who's all over social media?
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
It looks like he's in Europe, who does these dance
moves like better than Michael.
Speaker 3 (01:54:25):
No, I don't I've had social media posts. I'm sorry,
I got yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Anyway, Yeah, I don't think this is a slanted statement.
Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
I really don't. So let's break it down.
Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
We are well we we we all like who we like,
we don't like who we don't like. But objectively, there
there are certain players who take certain aspects of the
game to a place that I think are just.
Speaker 1 (01:54:59):
Harder to watch than other aspects.
Speaker 2 (01:55:03):
And so what Luca does is a combo platter of
first of all, complaining on every play that he's not
the only one, he might be.
Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
The best at it.
Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
Every the only one, every play, every single play, and
and the one game he didn't he had a much
better game. Yeah, but it is just is too much.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Of course, because at a certain point we just want
to watch sports, and so there's never been a game
where everybody agreed with the refs or the umps or
whatever sports you're watching. And I understand that working refs
is part of the sport. But for me, the combo
(01:55:52):
platter that gets me in today's NBA is the player
who a complains on every play and b spends a
lot of time trying to make those refs think something
happened that didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (01:56:05):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
The problem with that is twofold. A. There's the obvious part,
which is right, people who flop when they didn't even
get touched. That's very frustrating. It's like that didn't happen.
But when Luka Dancic grabs another player's jersey, pulls that
(01:56:28):
player toward him, then leaps backward into that player to
create the contact, one would say, very smart play. You
get the foul called, but the hypocrisy of pulling moves
like that yet complaining on every play. So, in other words,
(01:56:52):
ref I'm gonna fool you on one play, and then
on the other end of the court if you get
fooled again by a different player, I'm gonna get mad
at you. It's like, you're just flat out being unfair.
You're like, this is not that. You can't do that
to people. There's no good answer there. Yeah, it becomes
(01:57:17):
a distraction.
Speaker 3 (01:57:19):
Like I said, normally, when you're complaining, you're not back
on defense, you're not helping your team. Lebron has falling
into this category and his elder Statesman years, where every
single time it's a complain, it's a complain. It's a complain,
(01:57:43):
and it's just I don't like it. Get back, let's go.
It's basketball. There will be contact, deal with it.
Speaker 1 (01:57:56):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
Imagine if Shaq complained on every play, oh god, and
he kind of could, of course he could. Yeah, just
imagine if Shaq was like, come on, He's like, he
just stopped the flow of the basketball game in turn
to complain.
Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
I think Lebron does a little bit too much of
what we're talking about, for sure, Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:58:21):
Way too much. Yeah, so so Lucas not the onliest.
Like I said, Luca's not the only one. He's just
the best at it. He's just the best at it,
that's all.
Speaker 3 (01:58:30):
Yeah, And it's it's just it's too much. It's too much.
It's gonna happen. Man, get back, let's go to work,
you know. We get him on the next one, have
a conversation during the time out. But I mean, you know,
and they look, this is an issue because they talked
(01:58:52):
about it in the previous series and he came out
that next game and he was hyper focused, had a
great game, and so now he's stuck in between the
world of doing it and not doing it. So now
it doesn't quite happen every time, or he'll catch himself.
He'll catch himself in the middle of it and then
stop and do the like wave of the hand and
(01:59:12):
you know, trot back down the court. But you know,
it doesn't take away from how dynamic he is as
a player. And he's always been that good though, yes.
Speaker 1 (01:59:25):
But that's to me, that's why it's frustrated.
Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
It is too good. You don't need it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
He's too good. You don't need it. You are good.
He's so good, So Why are you trying to fool everybody?
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
Why don't you just score on him instead?
Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
Just score on him? They can't you too big? Change
of pace is too great.
Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
I can't wait to talk about that series when it starts.
Someday gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:59:51):
Well, yeah, I might be forty eight by the time
it starts.
Speaker 1 (01:59:56):
She might be. We'll find out next week.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
For eight from Salama, Mark Willard playing can spand your
next good Night,
