Speaker 1 (00:01):

The way tire buying should be jam packed show tonight

(00:28):
lots to get to. We'll cover all the major sports,
all the major stories, and of course rackus midnight hour topic.
We'll have two topics, but I think one will dominate
the other. We'll talk about that coming up. As you know,
in an hour from now. From where I sit, it's
midnight in Las Vegas. We'll take your calls eight seven, seven,
nine to nine on Fox. The callers have been tremendous

(00:50):
over the last few months since we started this. But
we begin in Boston, you know, as you as you
may or may not remember, six years ago, Kyrie Irving
was supposed to be the future of the Celtics franchise.
Of course he left on bad terms, but before that

(01:12):
he actually had a little playoff run in twenty seventeen
twenty eighteen. That was before Kyrie Irving was loaded. He
was injured but not loathed yet. Two of his young teammates,
Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown with They led Boston on
the shocking run to Game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals,
and they almost beat Well that what's that guy's name
who always wants he can't stay out of the news

(01:35):
because he's so desperate for attention. I forget. I think
it might it rhymes with I don't know Brown or something. Anyway,
I digress. Well, Kyrie had a bit of a rude
wakening Thursday night. The Celtics welcome Kyrie back to TD
Garden by as our buddy Kevin Figures would say, molly

(01:56):
whopping the Dallas Mavericks one oh seven eighty nine game,
wasn't that? I think they trailed by his many his
twenty nine points. They being the Dallas Mavericks trailed by
his Many's twenty nine in the first half, and Luca
got a little he woke up in the second half.
They cut the defison to nine. But you know that
on that light at the end of the title turned
out to be an oncoming train. Boston responded with a

(02:18):
sixteen to two run of their own, and Jalen Brown
looked like a man possessed and he finished with twenty
two points seven or twelve three blocks, three steals. Chris
STAPs back from his caffe inje he hadn't played since
the first round of the playoffs. What a huge addition,
twenty points eight for thirteen had the posterized block. Luca

(02:40):
had a very quiet thirty points. He was only twelve
to twenty six from the floor ten rebounds, but one
assist that sticks out in my mind because Kyrie Irving
struggled mightily to get anything going, finished with twelve points,
missed all five of his three point attempts, but the
one assist. Hold that thought, see bos I think if

(03:02):
you do the math, and you hadn't watched this game,
just looked at the matth you hit yourself for hell,
Mavis lost by twenty Why Boston attempted fifteen more threes
than Dallas did forty two to twenty seven, had made
nine more sixteen to seven. They have it even if
the Celtics had been a bit colder. That's terrible, terrible,

(03:24):
you know math for Dallas. That has to change. And
I think Luka Naanchik gave I think he gave the
Celtics a lot of credit regarding their space. And we
all know they live and die by the three. Well,
Dallas better get busy living or get busy dying, there,
Andy Dufrain, because Doncik is right, they've got to take
those threes away. But don't tell me, show me the

(03:47):
Celtics they shoot more threes than anybody in Dallas's defense,
which has been really good the last couple of months.
They're better at protecting the paint than they are taking
away threes. That's just a fact. Now, the MAVs they
could maybe go with small lineups more often in Game two,
but and then they did add a couple times in
the opener. But the truth of the matter is dere

(04:08):
Daniel Gafford and Derek Lively both they ended up only
playing like eighteen minutes because they had foul trouble in
the opener. They were the guys that really gave Dallas
their defensive identity and theoretically they could potentially provide a
problem for Boston on the offensive last but the bigger
problem was on the other end. The MAVs shot fewer
threes that they did in any other game this entire

(04:31):
season except for one during the regular season. Nobody shot
more corner threes in Dallas, but on Thursday they only
got three of them. Then let's go back to the
assist number I gave you. This is something that isn't normal.
This was a massive, massive assist differential. The Mavericks had

(04:53):
nine assists, two were in garbage time. Dallas actually had
more turnovers eleven then they had assists nine. Boston had
as many blocks as Dallas did assists. Even when the
MAVs appeared to get some momentum in the third quarter,
they were never any kind of cohesive rhythm offensively. They
just weren't. They didn't have a single assist in the

(05:14):
third quarter, and that's when they had their run. There
was no ball movement. Even Jason Kidds said, you know,
the ball stuck. We were stuck too much on the
other side. Give it up, Jason Tatum, Derek White, Drew Holiday.
They had five assists the piece. Boston had twenty three assists.
That's how you do it, even in this water down NBA,

(05:34):
which at times looks like a train wreck to me,
If you can move the ball with purpose and distribute
the ball and get the defense moving their feet and
create looks through through sharp passing, and you shoot as
well as the Celtics did the other night. It could
be a long series for Dallas. Now I'm not a

(05:56):
prisoner of the moment. I think this is going to
be a good series. But Dallas does have to make adjustment.
And then Chuck Daily told me, went, look, everything looks
better when the ball goes through the basket, and when
it is it is, and when it isn't, it isn't.
Boston made nine more threes than Dallas did. There you
have it. Dallas couldn't throw a pee in the ocean.
You know, the fact that they didn't have assists and
they looked lackluster defensively, YadA yah. That was used to

(06:18):
buy product. The fact they were chasing their tail all night.
And then give it up to Derek Jones rejecting people
at the rim, rejecting Kyrie Jalen Brown again looked like
a man possessed. He was very aggressive all night. He
attacked a basket. There's no question he expended a ton
of energy on both ends of the floor. He was

(06:40):
the primary defender on Luca. He picked his pocket twice.
Then he would race the other way from contested dunks.
His best highlight he had a posterized dunk on Gaffer
the second quarter, But really the third quarter, when the
Celtics are looking a little shaky, that's when Jalen Brown
really stepped up in what I would consider kind of,
you know, an MVP stretch. He grabbed control of the game.

(07:04):
He took the challenge upon himself. He took aim, and
he says, I'm not going to be defined by just
one thing. Yeah, I like to shoot, like to make plays,
but I want to be seen as a well rounded player.
I want to be seen as someone who can defend
you on ball off ball. He did all of that
last night. After one of the deep threes Boston put

(07:25):
up that you know, put the self except by twenty
eight points in the third quarter. Jalen Brown, I don't
know if he glanced at his teammates, but the camera
kind of panned over to the bench. They all had
huge smiles on his face, including Kristaps Porsingis. This is
like drawing up a script. You bring Porsingis back. He

(07:46):
makes some mid range jumpers over Jayden Hardy and then
he then he drives past Derrek Lyley for a two
handed dunk. Porsinga's came up big. He made his presence
felt on both ends. Twenty points af from thirteen from
the floor, six rebounds, three blocks. So there you have.
Celtics are up one zip. We see against Sunday night.

(08:09):
I think Porzingis got into his comfort zone very quickly.
And I don't know if he's going to continue to
come off the bench or not, but I don't. I
think Dallas better figure set them out here fairly quickly.
You don't necessarily want to go down two to oh obviously, right,
that doesn't mean the series is over. I don't think
you've seen anywhere near what Dallas can do. But remember

(08:30):
Boston's been there before and Dallas hasn't. Boston looks angry.
They look like they wanted more. At least they wanted
game one more, I'll tell you that, and that's something.
So was it an entertaining game? Absolutely not. Does it
still have the chance to be an entertaining series? Absolutely
because you have storylines, Right, this is the point in

(08:52):
the playoffs where you start to infuse your stories about journeys.
No matter who wins these NBA finals, both the MAVs
and the Celtics have been through a lot, and they've
played one hundred games, and you're gonna have a situation
where either Luca gets his ring and Kyrie gets another ring,
or Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum get the monkey off

(09:12):
their back and don't act like it's not there, and
they know it. You could see it on Jalen Brown's
face last night. And I say that in a complimentary way.
The dude stepped up, He played with purpose. Coming up
what has become the biggest story of the week, not
even close, is the continued Laker circus. Only this time

(09:34):
all of us, including me, thought, well, we thought JJ
Reddick was a shoe in. Now I'm hearing, well, maybe
Sam Cassell doesn't want a rite shotgun. Maybe James Brego
isn't exactly looking to be his bench jockey. I don't
know what happened, and I'll have to you know, I'll
talk to mar Padina on my Saturday night show, but
I'll give you my thoughts. But I will say this.

(09:55):
You could hold it against me. You can call me
out later. You can say I told you. So I'm
going to make a bold prediction, and it's an opinion,
but it's it's what I would call an educated opinion.
I'm going to predict there's only a ten percent chance
Danny Hurley becomes the Lakers head coach, and it'll be
Hurley's decision, not the Lakers decision. Let's break that down.

(10:18):
Coming up, and I've given you what I think is
going to happen. It's an opinion. Coming up, I will
tell you why. I'm Bernie Fradder. We're coming to your

All right, back at the Bernie Fotter Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come you live from the Tarak dot Com studios here
in Las Vegas. Take you up to two am Pacific
five e emision. We are just getting started. In case
you've been on Mars or you haven't heard, the Lakers
are targeting Danny Hurley. Is that Danny Hurley. He may

(11:45):
have no NBA coaching experience, but he is an exquisite coach.
He's done well everywhere he's been and he is looking
to three pet at Yukon where he's truly built a culture.
He's built a program, and he has in this day
and age of nil in Transfer Portal and all the

(12:09):
other Michigans, he has built a family, a loyal family.
You know, let me start with a cliche because I'm
going to as I said a minute ago, I give
it a ten percent chance that this ends up where

(12:30):
Danny Hurley is the Lakers coach now, not because I
don't think Danny Hurley's fabulous or do a great job.
I think he would not because it'll be the Lakers
turning him down. I think when push comes to show,
Hurley will turn down the Lakers, and I'll take my medicine,
and I think we should know by next week at
this time. We're not gonna know the next couple of days.

(12:52):
On think. I think by next week at this time,
and I sign out for my Friday show June fourteenth,
I think, well, no, this is a very audacious story.
You know, Hurley's not a done deal. But let me
start with a cliche. The NBA is a players league.
College basketball is a coaches league. You know, the great

(13:15):
Chuck Daily Daddy Rich, one of those arrogant men, great
basketball coach, back to back championship with the Pistons, presented
a Bad Boys, once told me he says, in the NBA,
it's all about managing an adult day care center. That's
what it's about. And he didn't say that in the pejorative.
He understand that these are grown men with families and egos,

(13:37):
and they make lots of money and you have to
have a base level of talent to be in the NBA,
and you have to understand some monckham of a team
concept to win games. But how how you treated people,
how you manage people, was more so prevalent than what
you would do in the college game. And the college
game it's you teach. Coaching is teaching. And by the way,

(14:00):
Danny Hurley is an exquisite teacher. And his father, Bob,
was a legend at Saint Anthony's High School in New Jersey.
And if you ever heard this guy talk basketball, it's
that God came down and talked basketball. Not only is
he brilliant in terms of his offensive and defensive concepts

(14:20):
and coaching players with individual skills, he communicates in bite
sized pieces that are easy to understand and are extremely
wise and forthright and accurate and helpful. I saw a

(14:41):
video of him watch teaching a young man how to
create his own shot off the bounce. He was a
three pointer coach Hurley, Bob Hurley was trying to refine
him so he could repeat success. In order for you
to repeat success, you know, your mechanics have to be pristine.
I know they gave Doug Gottlieb but a lot of heat
about Caitlin Clark's mechanics, but he's not wrong in the

(15:03):
sense that if you want to repeat success, your mechanics
have to be pristine. So I'm watching Bob Hurley teach
this young man. He dribbled his left stop spot up,
get his hand into the release positions, and shoot the ball,
and he caught a flaw and he said, look at you.
You have created an extra degree of difficulty by your
movement here. Why would you do that when this is

(15:24):
difficult enough And to the untrained die you wouldn't have
seen it, but to the trained die. So I listened
to this guy teaching coach, and the way he communicates well,
Danny Hurley is his father's son. He was always second
banana to Bobby Hurley. And you all know why you
don't need to go down that road. But not not
so much anymore, because look at what he's done. And

(15:44):
if you listen to him talk, you can listen to
him all day. He's a legendary coach already at a
program that night. He's a coach. And you followed guys
like the great Jim Calhoun. They expect success in Ukam.
It's a fish bowl, it's a hot, white hot, you know,
the intensity of a million suns. Place to coach in
a very tough conference. Look, he's got a situation there

(16:10):
that most coaches would kill for. He needs a Northeast guy.
He's a Jersey guy, grew up in Jersey City, went
to high school in Jersey City, coached high school in
Jersey City. His wife, Andrea is a Jersey girl. They're
Northeastern people. First of all, just moving to Los Angeles
is a completely different planet. Do you think his wife

(16:32):
really wants that? Where they're happy? Colin once said, you
can't improve on happy. He's not wrong there, you can't
improve on happy. Other people say, well, how many times
the Lakers come calling? He can't turn them down. Who
gives a flying horses? But dude, as the Lakers come calling,
that may have been a big deal to some people
if you're starstruck. I don't think this kid's starstruck. I

(16:54):
think he's well grounded. I think he's nicely tuk Mark.
I look at it. This one. He gets up every morning,
Bob Danny Hurley reads a little script here, runs five miles,
sits on the beach, things plans. He's got a great life.
You're not going to improve on that.

Speaker 5 (17:12):
Now.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
You may be some kind of legend if you go
to the Los Angeles Lakers and you turn that circus around.
You're not gonna do if Lebron's there. Now, if you're
talking about getting rid of Lebron, I don't know. Maybe
I'd say maybe you think about it. By the way,
give Danny Hurley a lot of credit. He's willing to listen.
He's doing the professional thing. He's not flouting his nose.
He's he's being very forthright about this. He's very dignified.

(17:37):
I'll listen to what you got to say. Why not?
You're the Lakers, You're an historic franchise. You don't make
any sense. You've had seven coaches since Phil Jackson was gone,
and this would be Lebron's fourth coach. You really want
to step into that Michigans and then I haven't even
mentioned Bronnie James. Are you kidding me? You're gonna have
to feel fart around the Bronnie James situation too. Brownie

(17:59):
James wouldn't got on the floor, yukon. Now you're gonna
get him on the floor with the Lakers and Bron Lebron.
I know that's wonderful that Lebron tweeted out ay night,
he's so damn good. We didn't ask you, Lebron. We
don't ask. We don't ever ask anything. But you got
to weigh on everything. We'll see how so damn good
he is when he yells at you for getting beat
on a back door cut or something in the middle

(18:20):
of a game. We'll see how long this lasts. I
don't have faith stepping into this circus act that this
is a good idea. So you got the fact that,
like I said, Chuck Day said, it's coaching, it's managing
an adult daycare center. He's Danny Hurley payable that I
don't know. Maybe you see him go off on refs.

(18:44):
I don't think he's a crazy person, No, I don't.
I think he's measured more than people give him credit for.
But I will say this, I do think he has
that gear, and I do think he's part of his
coaching acumen, it would involve getting a little emotional now then,
and I think he might coach the Lakers harder they
want to be coached. And I don't know how much

(19:04):
these guys want to be taught anything. Really, just look
at the qual of the NBA game now that it
used to be. Maybe I'm wrong, prove me wrong. And
then move into Los Angeles, you move into a different planet.
You move into a circus where they've had seven coaches
in what the last thirteen years? Fourteen years, and this
would be Lebron's fourth coach. And then again you got

(19:26):
the Bronni situation right four. You know again, I pretend
Brownie averaged four point eight points a game for USC
they were eight and twelve in conference. How would you
have got? What do you have done in Connecticut? And
yet you're gonna just jump them to the NBA. And
he's got to manage through that. Now, if the Laker said, screwed,
we're gonna rebuild for good, Lebron's a free agent, call

(19:50):
his bluff. You're not gonna win with him. He's done
winning championships in LA. If you don't know that, Stevie
Wonder can see that. So let's put it this way.
You bring this in and you're asking for nothing but
trouble and has nothing to do with the fact that
I think Danny Hurley is an exquisite coach. Is an
exquisite teacher. Now I realize that Lebron James has already

(20:12):
endorsed Danny Hurley's acumen, But there's always a backstory to
what Lebron says. There's always an agenda, there's always an
ulterior motive. Even when he brought up he's so pound
out of Kyrie Irving the other day had to mention Jo,
I'm glad to see he got to do because he
got to do with me. He made it about him again, right,
And if you bring in Danny Hurley, what could you
do to enhance that roster? You got Anthony Davis, he's

(20:35):
still under contract. I keep him al Sayam's point to
Lebron James returning he's got until June twenty nine to
exercises fifty one million dollar player option. But there's a
lot of questions about the rest of the roster, you know,
after those two guys, starting with d' Angelo Russell, what
do you do him with him? He's got a nineteen
million dollar player option. If Russell opts into his contract,

(20:58):
the Lakers are not only a luxury tag teams again.
But though I don't even want to go down that road. Okay,
So I would just say this to Danny Hurley, think
about this long and hard. You got an excellent chance
to threepeat at Yukon. You're a legend, You've already built
a legacy. Do you really want to move across the

(21:20):
country for what? For what? Be careful what you wish for.
As Colin said, you can't improve unhappy. I would assume
Danny Hurley is happy in stores Connecticut. All indicators are
that his wife is very happy. And one last thing.

(21:40):
One of the reasons Danny Hurley has been so successful,
and he said, you know Caraban decided to return instead
of going for going into the draft is he preaches
loyalty and I believe he means it. So that's why
I give it to ten percent. I think he feels
this out. He gives it an honest stay in court
and at the end of the day he you know,

(22:02):
he hasn't come to Jesus with himself and says, what
am I doing? What am I doing? This is just
this is a lark, man. I don't think I want
to do it coming up. I'm sitting in a pub
in London on May twenty second next to these folks
from Houston and they asked me, are they still moving
to Vegas? I get a call from a guy two
days ago. Are they still moving to Vegas? It's come

(22:22):
up three times in ten weeks. Time for our periodic
update with Alan Stonele of LV Sports Biz. But first
let's go to our guy, Kevin Figures with the latest.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
Okay, Bernie.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
In the Major League Baseball Friday Night, San Diego snapped
a five game losing streak.

Speaker 6 (22:36):
They hammered the Diamondbacks ten to three.

Speaker 7 (22:39):
Framber Valdez a complete game he pitched for the Houston Astros.
They beat the Angels seven to one. He struck out
eight in that matchup. The White Sox snapped a fourteen
game losing streak. They defeated the Red Sox seven to two.
The Dodgers got a two RBI double from Tajoscar Hernandez
in the top of the eleventh to help LA beat
the Yankees two to one. Baltimore with three home runs
as part of a six to three victory in Tampa.

(23:01):
Jake Irvin outdual Chris Sale to Lee Washington over Atlanta.
Kansas City overcame an eight run deficit to pick up
a ten to nine victory over Seattle and the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark matched her career high with thirty points. She
made seven three pointers as the Indiana Fever heild on
to beat winless Washington eighty five to eighty three. And
golf stick around at the Memorial Tournament, Scottie Scheffler has

(23:21):
a three stroke lead over Victor Hovlin, Roy McRoy and
Xander Schoffley are six strokes back back to Bernie Fredo.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Thanks, Kevin, appreciate you, Bud. All right, as I just
said a minute ago May twenty second, I'm sitting in
a pub in London. They asked me, I got a
call two days ago. Someone else asked me three times
in ten days. Are the A still moving to Vegas?
It seems to have gone radio silent. But we are
watching this, so we're bringing our guy Alan Snell from
LV Sports. Busy, Alan, how are you tonight, buddy?

Speaker 8 (23:49):
Hey, Bernie, I'm good. How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Man? Good? Thank you sir. So sometimes there is no news,
but when time, when time passes as it has, we
reported no news or it's all the same. But as
I mentioned, when I've got people and I'm sitting in
a pub in lon and asking me about the ASI
in Vegas. This is a this is a news story,
So bring us up to date on the latest down.

Speaker 8 (24:12):
Well, you got two things going on. You got the
short term and the long term. The short term was
a little interesting issue that has surface. The Athletics in
their proposed non relocation agreement with the Las Vegas Shabium
Authority Board put in a little interesting number on the

(24:34):
number of games it would like to play away from
Las Vegas. They said up to seven games, and that
kind of caught the attention of people.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
There was a lawyer and this is after they move here.
You're saying, Is that what you're saying, Allen, this is
after they move here?

Speaker 8 (24:49):
That is correct, after twenty twenty eight, if that's that's
the time they do open the stadium. There's a non
relocation agreement that specified, according to the a's that they
can play seven neutral MLB games that are considered home
games away from Las Vegas. Realistically, Burnie, let's face it,

(25:13):
they would at most play to like for example, abilities
of Mets in London, stuff like that. At the most,
and maybe you know one of those field of dreams
kind of one off kind of games. I mean seven
seems kind of far fetched, but seven was the number
they had in the agreement, so people were upset. It's
actually caused quite a little stir and I'm actually reporting

(25:36):
an interesting story on the lawyer who brought this to
the attention of the stadium board a week ago, So
look for that story on LV Sports Business. They have
the long term, you know, the long term is, like
you mentioned, the A's are looking to relocate in a
finished stadium here on the Strip in twenty twenty eight.

(25:59):
And you know, the guy who I think is a
major player in this, Bernie, who hasn't really been talked about,
is Peter Corlino, the CEO of Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc.
They're the folks who own the property. They're in charge
of the site.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Plan, Bernie.

Speaker 8 (26:20):
And you know, there's been a lot of talk about
Bailey's that own Trap of Canada on the site. You know,
the place closed in April second and there's actually the
place is coming kind of being taken apart as we talk.
You know, it's it's interesting to see what g LPI,

(26:42):
which owns the site the age want to build a
nine acre footprint for their stadium on the thirty five
acre location, and he's going to be calling the shots,
and the folks that control Trapicana Bailey's, you know, we
don't know if they're going to be part of this.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
So you know, hold that thought, Alan, because he raises
an interesting, uh sort of a pivot here. We all
know that the Tropican is going away, that ship is sailed,
they're emptying it out, and by the time they employed it,
there'll be nothing there except the structure. But someone told
me two days ago on the phone that the trop
is going away. Whether the A's are coming here or not,

(27:20):
is this whole thing going to turn out to be
a red herring? I mean, Alan, do you give it
what percentage chance you gave it that the A's actually
don't end up coming here?

Speaker 8 (27:31):
I think it's relatively low. I know, I'm probably swimming upstream,
you know with a lot of the other media who's
you know, they know the owner, John Fisher, and he's
had about five different locations floated in the Bay Area
that never came to fruition. But honestly, I don't think
the problem will be the A's. I think the problem
really is Bailey's and traffic can and who's going to

(27:53):
build the next hotel tower. And you know the A's
aren't getting three hundred and eighty million dollars in government
aid through a state bill. I know it's popular or
you know, to trash John Fisher and the team president
as well.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Well, let let's talk about John Fisher because one of
the allegations, and again I'm not as connected to this
as you are, is that there's some questions of whether
he comes up with that billion dollars he committed to.
Is that fair or is that not fair?

Speaker 8 (28:22):
Well, he's he has stated multiple times that he's family
and he have they have the money out. You know
they're going to have to come to the table with
more than a billion dollars. The stadium construction is supposed
to be pegged at one point five billion. The state
of Nevada bill has designated three hundred and eighty million.

(28:43):
So you know, he claims that he has the money
and he's going to follow through. I'm going to keep
in mind here in Las Vegas is that the chairman
of the stadium board is also the CEO of the
lv CBA Tourism Agency, which is a government agency in
Las Vegas designed to promote tourism and bring visitors. His

(29:08):
name is Steve Hill, and see this pretty much put
his reputation on the line, I think, in really representing
the a's position, And you know, you got to think
that this guy would probably not want to jeopardize his
position and standing if he didn't think John Fisher was
going to file through on this. I know it's probably

(29:29):
not a popular take. You know, obviously there's a lot
of assertions that Fisher is not going to be financially
committed to this, But honestly, from my insiders, I think
the problem really is Bailey's the folks who controlled with
the old Tropicana, the former hotel, than it is Fisher

(29:50):
in the.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Agency time with alisonll LV sportscause. All right, let's look
at the timeline, which is one of the things we
always do when we have you on. Yeah, when is
the it is the implosion that's supposed to officially happen.
That's October, I believe.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
Right, that's later this year, and from what I understand,
there is going to be a groundbreaking probably around the
April of twenty twenty five, probably a thirty to thirty
one month construction period. Keep in mind the construction folks

(30:24):
who are running the show. McCarthy and Mortenson are the
same exact people who built the Raider Stadium a couple
miles away from this particular site. And you're also going
to have a company called Icon that will be kind
of a third party to make sure everything is supposedly

(30:44):
going on schedule. And they were also involved in the
Raiders Stadium as well. Here's an interesting vote that has
to be taken probably in the first quarter of twenty
twenty five, since we're talking about timeline stuff, and that
is of the three hundred and eighty million dollars and
government public assistance towards the stadium construction, one hundred and

(31:06):
twenty million will be bond sold by Clark County government
and Clark County Commissioners. Bernie still have to technically vote
on it, and I would expect that vote to take
place in the first quarter of twenty twenty five. The
county will set up a district to raise money a

(31:28):
keep it. Like I mentioned it, it's only a nine
acre footprint, and there'll be all kinds of fees. There'll
be fees on all kinds of stuff bought in the
nine acres at the stadium. That money will be collected
and supposedly that will pay off the debt for the
county bonds.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
All right, Alan, So as we wrap it up the
two key things you you annotated the implosion of the Tropicana,
which I'm guessing October, and then first quarter next year
to break ground on the stadium. Are there any other
in addition to the vote any other quickly, are there
any other timeline events that we should keep our eyes

(32:10):
on that would indicate this is moving forward?

Speaker 8 (32:14):
Not really? I mean, let's face it, there's always going
to be some skepticism based on the fact that the
a's have tried all these different locations around the bay,
and honestly, you know, there's still a lot of big
hitters up there who don't think that Fisher is going
to realize this project right, and you know what, the
bottom line is burning, Let's face it, until the you know,

(32:36):
the shovels are hitting the dirt and the construction of
you know, equipment is out there, there's still there's always
going to be skepticism, no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Alan, great stuff is always we'll get you on sooner
rather than later. As this story continues to be fluid,
I believe and of course we will. We will track
you down and get the updates.

Speaker 8 (33:00):
Allen always great to talk with the Bernie take care man.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Thanks, Thanks buddy. That is Allen's now LV sports Biz
coming up. We set up the topics for tonight's midnight hour.
We got a couple of doozies. We look forward to
hearing you eight seven, seven, Night and Night on Fox
eight seven, seven, nine nine six six three sixty nine
in about nineteen minutes for more. I sit here in

(33:25):
Las Vegas. It is, in fact the midnight hour. Colloquially,
it'll be the midnight hour where you're at. Even though
people from around the world listening to different time zones,
you all know what to do, and the calls have
been thoughtful. The calls have been interesting. We've had arguments,
We've had disagreements, and remember, as I've always said, the
most boring conversations are when everybody agrees, and I think

(33:47):
we'll have one of the both the topics will be
some disagreement, and I'm going to set those up coming
up in just a second. By the way, one of
them might have to do with whether or not if
you were advising Danny Hurt, should he take this job
with the Lakers or not giving all the things I
laid out. There's also a second top or two, and
it's pretty serious business. I Bernie Fraddlewerck Comedy Line from

(34:10):
the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tirek dot Com Studios.
Keep it locked right here. You're listening to the Bernie
Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
All right, back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Come to you live from the Tirak dot com studios
here in wat Vegas. Coming up in twelve minutes. The
phone lines are open dialing any time eight seven, seven
nine nine six six three six nine eight ninety nine
on Fox, because from where I sit here in Las Vegas,

(34:45):
it is, in fact the midnight hour, literally and figuratively.
We started this last New Year's and it involves getting
your opinions and thoughts on what we consider to be
typically pretty meaty sub matter. And we've got a couple
I think doozies tonight. The first one I've already set up.
If you were advising Danny Hurley this Lakers circus coach search,

(35:11):
what happened to uh jj Redick? I thought it was
a done deal. Well, that's maybe that's not fair, that's
irresponsible journalism. But all we heard was how infatuated they
were in this and that then I heard rumblings that
maybe he couldn't get the assistance he wanted. Sam Cassell,
James Brigo, I don't know. I'm just talking through my

(35:33):
huha here. The bottom line is this all of a sudden,
you pivot to Danny Hurley and they're prepared to make
a massive offer.

Speaker 9 (35:40):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
And if you're Danny Hurley, you're already a legend at Yukon.
You're going for a three pete. You're an exquisite teacher.
I've already said that. Chuck Daily has told me that
coaching in the NBA is all about managing an adult
daycare centators. Danny early really want to do that. He's
a teacher, and you're going to move to another planet
in Los Angeles, totally different. And how about his wife Andrea?

(36:04):
This would be the Lakers seventh coach since Phil Jackson
left in the fourth under Lebron. Oh in Lebron, the
Lebron factor. You really want to deal with that noise?
The guy can't shut up. I don't care what he says,
I got it, his legacy secure, he's probably gonna play
it another thirty years. You're gonna get rid of this guy,
get rid of him. Lakers didn't bring but didn't bring
Danny Hurley in and start to rebuild. As long as

(36:28):
Lebron is there, you're rebuilding nothing. He's gonna take up
all the air in the room and all the air
in the salary cap. And then Bronni. I don't think
Broni can get on the court at Yukon, but you're
gonna get on the court with the Lakers. You're gonna
develop Bronni. Why you're gonna You're gonna invest time developing Bronni.
By the way, I love Danny Hurley. How's he gonna
feel about losing forty games a year? Forty five a year.

(36:51):
I don't think he's lost that in his whole career.
It's just kidding, all right there, you get my point.
So if you were really advising Danny Hurley, in the
words of Colin Carr, you can't improve on happy. Would
you advise Danny Hurley to take the job or would
you say, hey man, how many times the Lakers come calling? Right?
I don't care and call me. I'm not gone. I
was an intern there. I loved it, by the way,

(37:12):
So what maybe that doesn't mean so much to a
lot of people just because you think it does. Maybe
it doesn't everybody. Hell, how many times does NAP Auto
Parts come calling? How many times does anybody come calling?
Lakers come call a lot, just as the seven coaches
that came and went in the last five minutes. All right,
so you got my deal there? The second one of
this serious issue, damn serious issue. This past week, San

(37:35):
Diego Potter's infielder to compete Marsano banned for life by
the Major leagues for betting on baseball games. You know,
we bet like on two hundred and thirty one major
League baseball games over a two year period, and they've
got their records to prove it. Apparently he won like
ten of his bets, won like four percent of his bets.

(37:57):
Are you kidding me? The Major League Baseball investigation found
the twenty five of those bets included pirates games while
Marcano was assigned or was playing in Pittsburgh. So apparently
he bet on games according to his reports that he
was involved in. Now, they also said there's no evidence
to suggest that any outcomes on the games in which

(38:20):
he plays for compromised, which also leads us to John
Tay Porter, who is banned for a lifetime. And now
this is this is getting, you know, even a little
bit more serious because two more are charged in the
betting scandal that involved x NBA player johntay Porter. So
you've got a guy, You've got a you had an
NBA player that was banned for life, and now you've

(38:43):
got a Major League Baseball player banned for life not
messing around? Is this what they need to do? I want,
I would like your opinion on when you're hearing these
guys are banned for life, is this what needs to
have happen to fix this? Or are we never going
to fix this? And now are we basically having what
I would call a gambling reckoning This whole spring and

(39:07):
gambling across the sports industry. They're hitting inflection points right
and left. And the truth of the matter is there
are people that are raising questions. I'm not one of
them necessarily that believe that this coexistence between legalized betting
and league operations is getting more difficult, even though it's

(39:27):
clear that it's working it's clearly that it's working in
terms of enforcement. But when Major League Baseball suspends five
players Tuesday for betting on baseball, including a lifetime ban
on Tucapedo Marsano, and then we just got done. We're
not actually done with the Johntay Porter NBA situation. Let's
get your thoughts on sports legalized betting and do these

(39:48):
guys need to be banned for life or maybe a
two year band and they can come back after they
say five Hillmorians and go to church. Then would you
advise Danny Hurley one way or the other and taking
the Lakers job? You know what it all entails. It's
a circus. That's a midnight hour eight seven, seven nine
a night on Fox. Dial them up. You're listening to
the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
You don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Fradle
Show keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle.
We'll come to your line from the tyrat dot com
studios here in Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio. Tyraq dot
com will help you get there. Anun matched selection, fast
free shipping, free road azerd protection and over ten thousand
recommended as dollars tyrec dot com. The way tied buying

(40:36):
should be a couple of doozies tonight, how would you
advise Danny Hurley to proceed regarding the Lakers? And we
have a gentleman Tikipedo Marsano band for life, maasor League
Baseball a new chapter in the marriage between sports betting
and professional sports. Let's get your thoughts. That's why every

(40:58):
Friday at twelve midnight, it's time.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
It's time right now, the midnight out.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Yes, from where I sit, it is midnight in Las Vegas.
For the next hour we feature our callers have been
out standing over the past few months. It's midnight from
where I sit in Las Vegas, and from where you
sit figuratively, it's midnight. So let's hear from me eight
seven seven ninety nine Fox. Try that again in English
eight seven seven ninety nine nine Fox eight seven seven

(41:32):
nine ninety six six three sixty nine. Let's go out
to Olympia, Washington, Emmit. Get us started tonight, buddy, what
do you.

Speaker 10 (41:39):
Got Bernie Frado?

Speaker 2 (41:41):
What's going on? How are you doing doing well?

Speaker 8 (41:43):
You?

Speaker 10 (41:44):
Oh, I'm doing well, you know, I send in a
brand new fool story to Shade, and you know he
let the Great Three do it last weekend, so I
hope he's it tomorrow. Bernie, I'm I'm preparing you you
might have seen this.

Speaker 1 (41:55):
It's a doozy, but look forward to it.

Speaker 10 (41:57):
Okay, enough of that, you know, I know you want
to hear about this whole like Dany Hurley and the Lakers.
So first of all, if I'm him, it's this is
a very like interesting, you know situation here because the
Lakers is probably in the whole NBA. It's probably the
most pressure field job.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
You can take.

Speaker 10 (42:14):
I mean, the LA media, you know, all the Lakers
fans like they are, they're a pretty hard.

Speaker 9 (42:18):
Team to work for.

Speaker 10 (42:19):
And then second of all, to add on to the media,
you've got the Lebron James effect.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Who knows what's gonna happen with that.

Speaker 10 (42:25):
I mean, I think Brownie James, if that like actually
happens and he gets drafted to the Lakers, I think
that could be a bleep show.

Speaker 11 (42:32):
But so I think there's a lot.

Speaker 10 (42:34):
Of things that could go wrong. But also at the
same time, he's making like super good money to get
a shot in the pros. So like if I'm like,
you know, his agent or whatever, I'm explaining them what
I just said to you.

Speaker 9 (42:46):
It's just like, bro, you.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
Got so what would you would would you would you
advise him to take it or not? Because they might
offer him a hundred million dollars even though the Lakers
never see to give more than three year contracts. Go ahead,
he could.

Speaker 10 (42:56):
He could probably get a whole another better job if
he just waited it out.

Speaker 5 (43:00):
I did some more.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
He's got a great job. Now he's got it. The
getting ready to give him a raise, so real quick?
Am it? Always appreciate here from you, But yeah, you're
you're sitting in front of Danny Early right now, do
you say take it or no?

Speaker 10 (43:12):
I say no, everybody go ahead and I'll lay in
on the gambling real quick too.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
Okay, you got time for that, go ahead.

Speaker 10 (43:18):
I just think I'm not surprised that you know this
is happening again. It's going to be like a pretty
calmon occurrence. I mean, it's just crazy how bad that
his bets were, Like dude was going like four percent
you know success, right, So when you're banning, like betting
on your own team, that's just a no no, Bernie.
I mean that's literally affecting it. So I think, like,
dude is every right? You know he had it comming

(43:40):
to him. I mean, yeah, yeah, you need to find
in your hobby.

Speaker 2 (43:43):
All right, good stuff it. I agree. Man, if you're
stupid enough to bet on your own team with all
the warnings out there, I don't have a hell of
a lot of sympathy for you. Poppy in San Diego,
what's happening, Poppy?

Speaker 12 (43:56):
Welcome?

Speaker 13 (43:56):
Would you like?

Speaker 12 (43:57):
Would you like a cup of team mate?

Speaker 2 (44:02):
What's up? Poppy?

Speaker 7 (44:04):
Hey?

Speaker 12 (44:04):
Well, you know I was gonna say about the coach Danny,
what I would invite le Bonn You know, hey, do
you really want to go with Lebron, James and da
Diva in La? It says how you said, it's the circus,
Like you don't want to deal with them? He runs
the show. You got your own legacy in Yukon, build
it and stay there. You're gonna get millions and millions
and dollars better than La. I've been in La. It's

(44:27):
like it's a bunch of divas, a bunch of egos
showing off this and that.

Speaker 9 (44:31):
But I would advise Danny to do.

Speaker 14 (44:32):
What would you do?

Speaker 12 (44:33):
Go to the trips, go to LA in the first
class pilot, get a picture with Lebron James, get a
backup or get a signature and set up Lebron James
and then and pretend you're gonna be like the next
coach when you're in Yukon, be like no, no thanks,
I'm good. And you had a bunch of souvenirs of
Lebron James and autograph backtball.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Then all right, so that's we're two for two. That's two.
No's anything on the gambling, it's one of your pots, man.

Speaker 12 (45:01):
Yes, the gambling on my poject. You know, it's really unfortunate.
But I have a conspiracy here, Bernie. I think they're
doing this with the old TOWNI the sports betting, and
I think it's like a setup in saying, oh, TONI,
you better not bet or we're gonna ban you for life.
So it's like sending a message to Oldani with the investigation.
It's unfortunate, but there had to be someone they did

(45:22):
a lesson to, and that's that person you on the
padrats and you know, later on, I think they're going
to make the legalized sports betting in California so big.
But I think they're just sending the message so players
get scared and don't do betting on this.

Speaker 2 (45:36):
Oh no, that's a good point. When you're banned for life. Man,
that's a good paying job. So all right, poppy, good stuff,
and enjoy your weekend. All right, that is poppy. Hey
Jim in Massachusetts, I'm sure you've got something thoughtful here.
What do you got for us tonight?

Speaker 9 (45:50):
Oh, Bernie finally came to the east coast of some sanity.

Speaker 5 (45:53):
Huh.

Speaker 9 (45:54):
Anyway, the uh Danny Hurley is not going anywhere near California.
And I think you hit it on the head about
moving out there to that to that show and his
wife ain't going to like it.

Speaker 5 (46:05):
Can you imagine.

Speaker 9 (46:07):
Going out there and stepping on needles and crack pipes
all over the place, and void and homeless encampments and
people going to the bathroom right there in front of
the entrance mouth.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
Now you, Jim, I love your calls. Man, You know
you don't pull punch of stay right there. I just
want to say one thing, because I lived a lot
of my life in California, and I did enjoy it,
and I left the state, and I don't. I'm never
going back. But here's my point. When you have grown
up in the East, and I've spent a lot of
time in the East, a lot, and then you all

(46:40):
sudden have to uproot, that's a different planet, his wife.
So I think we're on the same page here, Jim,
go ahead.

Speaker 9 (46:47):
Yeah, well just to that point, I lived out there
in nineteen seventy seven. Oh, I take that back. It
was eighty one. But I couldn't handle it. I couldn't
handle it because of the the weirdness back then, let
alone to now.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
You know, how about the weirdness inside the Lakers four walls?

Speaker 9 (47:06):
Yeah no, But you know what, why would he go
out there? Bronni's gonna go to LA. You know, Bronnie
is going to get the treatment Kim clink Clock's getting now.
And what's what's lebron gonna do? Fight everybody that that
whole part an NBA talent. I'm sorry, he's just not
an NBA circus.

Speaker 2 (47:26):
So look, the prestige to some people of coaching the
Lakers supersede sanity in a one hundred million dollars Do
you have anything on Jim on the on the band
for life player and the relationship. You know what.

Speaker 9 (47:39):
These guys are told, they're sat down like in every
league not to do this, not to do that, about
the drugs and the betting, and they go and give
it anyway, do it anyway, and God's blessed them with talent.
They're like one percent of the population that that's allowed
to go play the different sports they're in, no matter
what the sports in, you know what, So hang them.

(48:02):
You know they should have known better. You will give
it all this talent to go perform and have children
go sit in the sands and live through you. I mean,
we've all done it that. We love our teams and everything,
and then they go screw it up. But I will
say this though, it isn't helping when the SPN and
every other sports thing is doing fantasy football running the

(48:22):
ticket down at the end of the thing and the
odds and everything down at the end of their program
on a teleotape like it's a stock market report. I mean,
that's not helping society either.

Speaker 2 (48:33):
All right, good stuff, appreciate your calls as always, a Jim,
I'm okay with the relationship it's being managed. But when
play if players don't know better, like you said, Jim.
I mean, you've got a gift to play a sport
and you're paid a fortune. Do you really need to
get down that bad? I mean, so anyway, let's move along.

(48:53):
Trevor and Florida. You're up next. What are your thoughts tonight?
Do we have Trevor? Hello?

Speaker 9 (49:04):
Hello, you're off Trevor.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
You're you're on the air for Trevor. Go ahead?

Speaker 9 (49:08):
Man, Well, no, I said it's Kevin.

Speaker 15 (49:11):
That's why I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (49:12):
Probably that's my bad. It's that Trevor. It's all good.
Let's move ahead.

Speaker 9 (49:17):
That's fine.

Speaker 15 (49:17):
Yeah, okay, So hey, Bernie, it's wonderful and I love
I could picture whenever that song comes on, I picture.
Uh think is the greatest tips of Oh gosh, uh there, greatest.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
Tit Oh yeah in the open.

Speaker 5 (49:35):
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 15 (49:37):
I'm one of ten kids, so I got influenced by
all the the music. And thank you very very much.
So yeah, and uh and I've told you this before
I called you one time. I'm just gonna snidgeen in
one a little bit of information. My son's with me
in this spirit every day, every every second, every minute
of the day. He died of a Benton overdose in

(49:59):
April of twenty twenty two. And he was the biggest
sports fan. You know how a lot of us are
just but you it's your life.

Speaker 5 (50:07):
You know.

Speaker 9 (50:07):
His team was the Heat.

Speaker 15 (50:09):
One of the team was the Atlanta Braves, et cetera,
et cetera. So I love I was telling you a call, guy.
I love the way you articulate things. You and Van Mallor.
I couldn't say anything more. I just totally agree with
you about you know, Lebron taking the air out of the.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
World so real quickly, Kevin, if you're sitting in front
of Danny Hurley, do you say take the job? It's
a once in a lifetime gig or hell No, okay, no,
we're four and oh go ahead, continue on.

Speaker 15 (50:41):
No, no, no, no, I would say no, I'm agreeing
with these other guys. I'd say, no, stick with your
college team.

Speaker 2 (50:48):
They love you.

Speaker 15 (50:49):
It's a great heritage with Jim Calhoun behind you.

Speaker 11 (50:53):
I love it.

Speaker 15 (50:54):
And my dear aunt, my dad's last siblings. She was
the last to die of his two siblings. She was
It was so cool because every every basketball season, boys
and girls, she was a She was a Husky fan.
It was so cool to hear that woman talk about
it into her nineteen ninety seventh year of life. Bernie,

(51:16):
I got goose bumps all over. Okay from the betting,
go ahead, real conservative on the betting. I'm not into it,
never was. I understand your your take on it.

Speaker 16 (51:28):
You're you're more.

Speaker 15 (51:30):
I don't even like he used the word liberal, But no,
I think and you can see what's happening with these guys.
They're young guys, You're really they're young kids. I'm sixty
five now. Yeah, they get paid enough, they don't need
to be betting, and obviously they've got this opportunity in
their mind, and they screwed themselves. But then again, the
last the last guy sounds like he was in Boston.

(51:51):
Love you, buddy, Hey, you screwed yourself because they know
the rules. And that's all I got to say. Brother,
thank you for the job you do and the great
humor and just fantastic brilliance and quick wit.

Speaker 5 (52:03):
That you have.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Thanks Kevin, Appreciate your the kind words. Appreciate you you listen.
Don't be a stranger in the midnight hour, James in Arkansas.
I'm sure you've got something interesting to see tonight. Hello,
you're up, James. Good buddy, James in Arkansas.

Speaker 5 (52:21):
Your turn, all right?

Speaker 16 (52:23):
Yeah, thanks thanks for letting me call in.

Speaker 17 (52:24):
You go.

Speaker 9 (52:25):
Danny Hurley.

Speaker 5 (52:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (52:27):
If I'm talking to Danny Hurley right now, I'm bringing
up David Blatt. I'm bringing up Luke Walton. These guys
they never recover when they take these jobs.

Speaker 2 (52:36):
Such a good why, such a good point.

Speaker 16 (52:39):
Go ahead, and the wise thing to do with Danny Hurley,
if his desire is to go to the Pros one day,
he should wait for Greg Popavi is to retire and
coach Wendy. Okay, so that that system, you know, that
culture is something that I think he would fit in.
He doesn't. He doesn't fit in l A. And you know,

(53:03):
and if he takes the job in l A, what
it's gonna do, is it gonna It's really just gonna
put the stains on his resume that he doesn't serve,
you know, all of that.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
Bit of it. Anything on the sports, uh, sports betting, games,
sports betting.

Speaker 16 (53:20):
I'm a gambler and uh, you.

Speaker 18 (53:22):
Know I do well in it.

Speaker 16 (53:25):
But what the players do is obviously you know, you.

Speaker 18 (53:28):
Can't have it.

Speaker 16 (53:29):
And as many if they need to uh make an
ex They need to make an example of iver many people.
They need to because what it does is it is
it Uh, it messes up the game for people. And
you know, people are people are really into sports betting
now and and it's not changing, it's not going anywhere.

(53:51):
They make money off of it. And if a player
wants to ruin his career, uh, you know, because he
wants to gamble, that's on him. And especially when they're one,
you know, they better just be lucky. They're not going to.

Speaker 18 (54:04):
Prison, you know.

Speaker 16 (54:05):
So you know, I think a lifetime band is sufficient enough.
You know, they take away their money, take away their livelihood.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
All right, thanks so much, James, appreciate the definitive nature.
No equivocating here, no wishy washing it. We've all been
around that guy. You ask him, well you have a
hard time making up your mind? Well, yes, said no,
we don't want that. We come strong. Everybody and everybody has.
We're five and zero. I said at the beginning at
top of the show, my opinion. It's an opinion, but
I think it's an educated opinion. It will only be

(54:35):
a ten percent chance that Danny Hurley would take the gig.
I'm gonna ask you and to save that sound, because
next Friday night, I'm either gonna take my medicine or
I'll take a short victory lap. I hate victory laps.
You get the point. Everybody's been great so far. We
will continue on Bill and Freddie. You are up next
on the Midnight Hour, doll them up eight seven, seven,
nine and nine on Fox eight seven, seven, nine, nine

(54:58):
sixty six three sixty nine. How would you Danny Hurley
to proceed? Yes or no? And your thoughts on sports
betting and the relationship with major leagues, the major league
entities now that we have another gentleman banned for life. Yeah,
it's serious business. Both of these matters are serious business,
and they're both very much of the news. That's why

(55:20):
for more, I sit here in Vegas the midnight hour.
It is in the midnight hour literally from where you
sit figuratively, you are dialing in eight seven, seven, nine,
ninety six six three sixty nine. Be a part of
the party. Let's hear what you gotta say. I'm Bernie Fradderer,
coming you live for the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio,
Tirock dot Com studios. Keep it locked all right, back
on the Bernie Fradder Show. We continue The Midnight hour

(55:42):
is rolling on? How would you advise Danny Hurley thoughts
on a major league player being banned for life? Bill?
In Jacksonville, you're up next. What do you got for
us tonight? How you doing suck good? Sir?

Speaker 5 (55:55):
Are you on Hurley.

Speaker 11 (56:00):
In basketball talent? He's bushed aside the college accomplishments. He's
gonna take that job Red Jersey?

Speaker 2 (56:07):
But would you advise him Jersey? Would you advise him? Toy?
I would let you continue, Bill, But would you advise
him to? That's what I'm looking at here? Would you
advise him to? Okay, okay, you advise him?

Speaker 11 (56:20):
Let me explain. He's a Jersey guy. It's in his
guts to keep accomplishing stuff. OT's say, he's a high
end talent and he's gonna go ahead and take that job,
and he's going to run with it and do an
excellent job.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
You may, you know what? You may very well be right,
And I agree with your promise about Jersey guys. I
know that vibe. But how about three peating? That's that's
accomplishing something no one's done since John Wooden. But I
respect your opinion.

Speaker 11 (56:45):
Bill go ahead, Okay, well, big deal on the three peet.
He wants a little higher challenge. He's from Jersey. I'm
from Nork, New Jersey. Okay, this guy wants more, Okay,
because he's it's in his guts. Is the gambling things,
Magnoleague Baseball is a complete Joe carding handalyst all the

(57:06):
way back to Pete Rose. Nobody keeps saying or putting
it in strong terms. It's a sickness. It's a disease,
like chancer, like anything else. You want suspend them for
one year if you can go to counseling and bring
them back to baseball. And I want Pete Rose back
in baseball. Joke what they've done.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
With this good good good hangout your bill for say't
don't leave just yet. I like your thoughts. I like
your thoughts. Perhaps a lifetime band is too stringent. Maybe
you give a guy a year or two. You know,
I respect that thought, and I'm with you on Pete.
I don't think it serves any fruitful purpose anymore to
keep out of the game.

Speaker 5 (57:46):
Is that it?

Speaker 12 (57:46):
Bill?

Speaker 2 (57:46):
You get anything else? I have a good done, a
good call, Bill, excellent Freddie in Tallahassee back down to Florida.
Good evening, Freddy, or good morning from where you're at
hey Burn, How you doing good?

Speaker 19 (58:00):
You doing all right?

Speaker 15 (58:02):
First time caller.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
Well, you're always welcome. What do you got?

Speaker 14 (58:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 19 (58:08):
As far as uh Danny Hurley, Uh, that's a no bueno,
I wouldn't do it.

Speaker 11 (58:15):
I wouldn't want him.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
To do it.

Speaker 11 (58:16):
Okay, it's a it's a crashing.

Speaker 19 (58:18):
It's a crash and burn type of situation, especially with
this browning thing hanging over hanging over their heads out
there in l A. Uh, that's just going to be
a disaster. And Uh, this guy has too much going
for him already to take a situation going to a
situation like that.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
I like your thought, and not to disavout what Bill
said before you. He wants moreris from Jersey. I get that,
but doesn't have to be this. Maybe there's another NBA
job comes along, all right, So we're Freddie Eddy thoughts
on the sports betting.

Speaker 19 (58:55):
Uh, As far as now what Bill said about the
sports betting, I kind of agree with him on that.
I think Lifetime Banns is a little bit a lot harsh,
But y'all's betting on their own guy's betting on their
own teams. I mean, that's just really stupid. Why you
would do I don't understand why you would do that.

(59:17):
I gambled a little bit. I remember the guy that
called a couple of a couple of callers ago. He
said he's really good at it.

Speaker 11 (59:24):
Well I'm not.

Speaker 19 (59:24):
I'm stink and I lose a lot of I wouldn't
say I lose a lot of money.

Speaker 8 (59:28):
But I lose at it.

Speaker 19 (59:29):
I don't win. Uh, And I'm smart enough to know
that I don't bet my my my mortgage money on it,
or my car payment or whatever. I just, you know,
I fibble and dabble a little bit. But getting back
to these guys betting on your own team is stupid.
I think if you are dumb enough to do that,
then maybe you need to be banned for life.

Speaker 2 (59:50):
But that's another wrinkle.

Speaker 19 (59:53):
Good good point, But again I think lifetime ban for
guys that are, you know, casually betting on other sports
per apps, I don't even think they should be banned
at all or punished at all. If you're betting on
another sport all together, that you know you're not having
any effect on the sport that you play true, see

(01:00:14):
anything wrong with I don't see anything wrong with that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
True, but it implies you're all right, thanks a lot, Freddie.
Baseball is concerned about those optics because you may have
information that gamblers can get a hold of. And the
truth of the matter is it's all about optics. Baseball's
concerned about their image. We all know what happened to
nineteen nineteen Black Sox scandal. If anybody walks into a
park and doubts the outcome of a game, that's where

(01:00:37):
baseball starts to get very worried. Tony in Miami, how
are you, Tony? What's up tonight? Man?

Speaker 5 (01:00:44):
Hey, Bernie, how's it going.

Speaker 20 (01:00:45):
I just so you know, I don't have anything under gambling,
but I would advise Purly to pack his bags and
get his further away from La as possible. He could
coach in the NBA. This would be the situation in
my opinion, La Queen James is hijacked that organization to

(01:01:08):
the foremostland, and I guarantee he's turned it into the
real Housewives of Forum County and Jerry bus If Jerry
Buds would have somehow, you know, rose from the grave,
he jumped back in it's really sad. I'm actually a
Pistons fan. I know you were, you mentioned, you mentioned you,

(01:01:31):
you know, were in the heyday, But as a kid,
I kind of grew up with micro Wave and James Kelly. Yeah,
and so I mean I have I have a special
place in my heart for those Lakers. And then you know,
obviously I saw Shaq and Kobe, and I think to
have a conversation about the Lakers, it just in terms

(01:01:53):
of Hurley, no, but to have an honest conversation about
what's been going on the last five six years, you've
got to really zero in on the COVID year and
a lot of people overlooked at and there's a lot
of confusion there. And once you figure that out, I
think you'll be able to like really put the pieces

(01:02:13):
in order. In my opinion, because in my honest opinion,
I didn't count anything in twenty twenty. You don't have
You don't play fifty games in baseball and call that
a world championship. That's my opinion, But other people think
I'm a purist. I don't think the Lakers won anything.
I don't think Lebron won anything. So I mean, that's

(01:02:33):
that's how I see it, but you know, other people
see other things and they say, well, they see what
they want to. And I think, what's funny about that situation.
It's kind of been like a dichonomy for his whole career.
It's always been kind of grain shading. Nothing's been you know, consecrated.
You know, the times he's won, there's always been some

(01:02:53):
type of coveyat to it, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
So I know you got other callers, I can let
you go.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
We'll hear from me next week. All these good stuff
well researched, and I like the strong opinions. We will
continue on Laker, Larry Domingo and Jack you are up next.
Hang on, no one gets shut out of the Midnight
Hour Man, nobody, and we get we got to hear
what the cruise gotta say as well. But first let's
go back to our guy. Kevin Figures with the latest.

Speaker 7 (01:03:18):
All right, Bernie And in Major League Baseball Friday, not
the Yankees and Dodgers combined to use thirteen pitchers in
an eleven inning thriller that saw LA come away with
a two to one victory. Teoscar Hernandez for the Dodgers
the big two run double in the top of the eleventh.
The Padres steamrold Arizona ten to three. They got home
runs from Fernando Tazzis Junior and Hastan Kim. Snapping a

(01:03:39):
five game losing streak. Oakland walked off Toronto two to one,
a complete game for fran Bervaldez as the Astros beat
the Angels seven to one. In Anaheim, the Royals came
back from an eight to nothing deficit to beat Seattle
ten to nine. The White Sox not the fourteen game
losing streak with the seven to two victory over the
Red Sox. Seven strong innings for Logan Webs The Giants
one at Texas ball More beat Tampa six to three.

(01:04:01):
Victories for Saint Louis, Cincinnati and Milwaukee and the WNBA.
Kaitlin Clark made seven three pointers and scored thirty points
in an eighty five to eighty three victory for the
Indiana Fever. They defet the Washington Mystics, who are still
winless on the season. In golf, Scotty Cheffler shot a
four under sixty eight and has a three stroke lead
over vict Victor Hoveland through a couple of.

Speaker 6 (01:04:22):
Rounds at the Memorial tournaments. All right, back to Bernie Freda.

Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
All right, thanks Kevin, good stuff, Bud back after the
phone lines lack Larry in Minnesota joins next, Tylerry, are
you hey? I'm doing good.

Speaker 18 (01:04:36):
So I'm a longtime listener. I've called a couple of times.
We're talking like JT. Brick back in the day. So
I live here in Minnesota. I'm a huge Vikings fan. Obviously,
so Minnesota never had the basketball team. I was born
in nineteen seventy seven. I'm kind of a young soul,
our old soul, but I don't know either way. The

(01:04:59):
whole thing is is like, so I really started following
the Lakers, and I was in the Magic and Kareem
and all that in eighties, and of course Kobe and
Shaq and Kobe and Paul. I'm a huge Laker fan.
I'm a basketball conni sewer. My sons play basketball. They
played AAU had one son that was going to go
to the Division one. He tours ACL another seven years old.

(01:05:22):
This kid's got a mind like you wouldn't believe for
the game. Hands are amazing, wonderful basketball players. I coach basketball.
I love basketball. I follow all the teams. I've been
watching everybody for many, many years. The last Cultler was
talking about kind of Lebron not having I'm kind of

(01:05:43):
the asterisk on the COVID season, which I agree with,
but what he did in Cleveland when he came back
the second one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
I appreciate your perspective, Larry, and You're always welcome. But
what I really kind of want to get to is,
if you hone it down, we funnel this down to
the Lakers. Are you touched on something very important? The
Lakers are an organization of eras, and I know because
I worked there. So we're about to enter potentially a
new era when Lebron leaves. Do you advise Danny Hurley

(01:06:13):
to take this job or not? That's the main thing.

Speaker 18 (01:06:15):
I want no right right now, And I was gonna
get to I was, I know, I was.

Speaker 11 (01:06:20):
I want people to understand you. I want to do to.

Speaker 18 (01:06:22):
Understand and others to understand where I was coming from, Julie.
But I'll be right. I'll be right to the point.
I have nothing against Danny Hurley. I think he'd be
a fabulous coach. I personally would think that, and I've
been saying this since he left when he was fired
from Golden State. I think Mark Jackson, Mama, there goes
that man would be an excellent decision by the Lakers.

(01:06:44):
And I've been wanting him to go there for many,
many years since.

Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
So would you advise Danny Hurley? Yes or no?

Speaker 18 (01:06:50):
I would say no, what to Danny Hurley? But fine,
if if that's if he wants the job, go ahead
and go for it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Well, they're going to offer to him. They're chasing him
now and real quickly. Do you want to weigh in
on the game the thing, You're always welcome, But I
gotta get these other calls.

Speaker 18 (01:07:03):
Yeah, I understand, I guess.

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
I guess.

Speaker 18 (01:07:05):
My thing is that like Lebron needs that third guy
like that Ray Allen.

Speaker 15 (01:07:09):
Like you had with the Heat.

Speaker 18 (01:07:11):
I think Mark Jackson would be an excellent coach. You
would get Lebron to the respect to you. You know,
he's the next player.

Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
That no one's winning with this team. Man. You can
bring yeah, forget, I.

Speaker 18 (01:07:22):
Can bring it out so many ways. The gafling part,
I mean, it's not legal here in Minnesota. You don't
bet on your own team. There's a lot of things
that you can you can throw into like if you're
throwing a game.

Speaker 11 (01:07:35):
It's so shady.

Speaker 18 (01:07:36):
I don't know it's a right well, a lifetime about note.

Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
All right, thanks Larry, appreciate you man. You're always welcome
in the midnight hour. Let's move along. Domingo in San Diego.
Good evening, Thanks for hanging out.

Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
Hey, good evening.

Speaker 17 (01:07:49):
Hey, I want to weigh in. I think getting Danny
Danny Hurley as a head coach for Lakers. I'm a
baby Lakers fan, huge sacred guy.

Speaker 9 (01:07:58):
Coming from the West Coast.

Speaker 17 (01:08:00):
That picking him up right now with Lebron as his
player and Bronni coming in as I currently, I wouldn't.

Speaker 15 (01:08:08):
I wouldn't invited him.

Speaker 17 (01:08:09):
I would say no just because you know, if it
was like four years with no Lebron, no Lebron, Lebrony,
I'll say yes because I think he's the winning coach.

Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
Yes, if you're going to rebuild this damn thing, let's
rebuild the damn thing. Let's say have not Lebron lurch
lurching over everything, acting like, oh, you know, don't include me.
He's so full of crap. All right, how about the
gambling thing?

Speaker 17 (01:08:33):
Oh, I wish I think Lifetime Band's good. I think
from Okay, gambling person like I do, like the gamble.

Speaker 16 (01:08:41):
On football, basketball, It's just like, I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Know, you got these players banned for life? Are you
for the lifetime banishment or is your you know, I think.

Speaker 17 (01:08:52):
I think for my gambling for my personal reasons. It's
just like if after notes knows, like whatever sports boxing,
gamble on boxing, game on baseball, especially like those MMA
fights to game on that you don't want the entertank.

Speaker 15 (01:09:05):
The integrity of the sport.

Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
I leak for a gambling part.

Speaker 17 (01:09:08):
You know, you have one player that kind of gambles
a little bit, then you have another player that kind
of trickles in. You know, one person gets away, another
person gets away also, So it kind of like then
if you can put it like a stricter rule, you know,
you know, I think people are always going to try
to get away with it. You know, p rose to
this Otani perhaps you know they're gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
Find ways to try to gamble, but.

Speaker 17 (01:09:32):
You know, doing like a stricter like punishment, why not.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
That's me all right, thanks a lot, man. I think
the key here is is that baseball is dealing with
this as there are the other sports are our lifetime
bands too severe or is this what is needed to
be done? And by the way, it's come up a
couple of times, I think we should set the record
strate So the best of my knowledge, there's absolutely no
evidence whatsoever that shoe hail Tani was involved in this
betting situation. Was all ipe, Okay, that's that's what we believe,

(01:09:59):
we know, and that's what we're going with. Jack in Texas,
Thanks for hanging on, Jack, What do you got for
us today?

Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Yeah? Man, I got a couple of things. Hurley. There
is I would tell him to run as fast and
as far as he could. That is a no win situation.

Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
We're an agreement.

Speaker 5 (01:10:19):
What you're doing. You win another one. You'll have your
pick of teams if that's what you want to know.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
And you know there was a time. Look at Tom
is the state in Michigan State. The cavaliers chased him
a few years ago. What's so wrong? And I realized
Ni l is Uh is crazy now in the transfer portal.
But Danny Hurley, he's already proven he could navigate through that.
He's winning. So we're an agreement on that. Jack, I mean,

(01:10:45):
does a little bron factor in terms of telling him
to run the other direction? Is that way in as
far as it as well?

Speaker 9 (01:10:52):
Yes, oh yes, Any thoughts on good.

Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
Players being banned for life and the and the relationship
currently between sports betting and in the major leagues.

Speaker 13 (01:11:03):
Okay, if i'm if i'm these commissioners, I've set everybody
down starting today and say, look, we have enacted the
death penalty. We tried it, and everybody, it looks like
y'all are not getting a message. No more betting if
you play the game, No more betting till you don't

(01:11:23):
play the game anymore. If you get caught, you're done.
No wiggle room, no anything.

Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
That's just how it's got to be to get this squashed.

Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
All right, all right, appreciate the definitiveness, Jack, And look,
we're gonna talk about this. I might, I might push
it to tomorrow's show. Since my Saturday edition on my show,
this spring has been a series of reckoning, a series
of situations that involve what I would call reckoning for

(01:11:56):
the gambling industry. I mean, when you have Major League
Baseball suspending five players one band for life. More situations
have come out regarding John tay Porter. Two more were
charged in the betting scandal, we were just fresh off
the ip A uh and uh and and chohel Tani situation. Man,

(01:12:17):
I'll tell you what. Uh it's uh, it's a conversation.
Uh Ralph in Denver, You're up next, Good evening.

Speaker 5 (01:12:25):
How to do there?

Speaker 9 (01:12:26):
Actually want?

Speaker 21 (01:12:27):
Name is Terry? I just thought i'd say Ralph just
be grins. Oh, I'm a huge Appalanche, huge Nuggets fan, huge, huge, huge,
you know something, And unfortunately the ending wasn't what I wanted.
I wanted them both go to the championships, scurries and
each of their respective sports, mainly the Nuggets. I'm just going, wow,

(01:12:48):
twenty up game seven.

Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Wow. Right, we talked about that with Darren McKee a
couple weeks ago. So I'm sure, Oh, I'm sure you're
probably not a big Laker fan, which is fine with me.
But but I but I do want to know this,
this is a national story. Would you advise Danny Hurley
to take the job or not they're going to offer
to him?

Speaker 5 (01:13:09):
Well, you know something, It'd be tough.

Speaker 21 (01:13:12):
If it was offered to me, I'd have to weigh
it one way or the other.

Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Wow, what would you tell Danny Danny's coming off A
guy's a legend in Yukon, and I think it's a
big damn deal to win three in a row. No
one's done it since the sixties. So would you tell
Danny yes or no?

Speaker 5 (01:13:29):
I'd say, I'll tell you what do it?

Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
Okay? Well you're there. So we've had nine voters say
no and to say yes anything on the sports Bet.

Speaker 21 (01:13:37):
You know something, I'd like to say something about mister
McKee there. He has an interesting voice and I actually
saw him for the first time on TV a while
ago during football season. Whoa uh you know. The whole
thing deceptive.

Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Is listen, let's do this.

Speaker 8 (01:13:55):
Rof.

Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
Appreciate you calling. I like Darren McKee a lot. Uh
been on my show twice. He's going to be on
a lot. He's tremendous. I appreciate all the callers. We
varied a little bit tonight. I really kind of want
people to stay on point because what it does is
it keeps the conversation flowing. So we've still got time

(01:14:16):
to squeeze in a couple more eight, seven, seven, nine
and nine Fox. We've got to get the cruise thoughts
on this too. This is a big damn deal. The
Lakers are at a real juncture here they I don't
know what happened to the JJ Reddick deal. That looked
like it was a foregone conclusion sort of, and now
they pivot so quickly like this. It just speaks to
the mess that I think the Lakers are. Honestly, I

(01:14:39):
think they're a mess. And you really want Danny Hurley
walking into that mess. I've just given you my opinion.
I tell him no, and I gave all my reasons earlier. Also,
we got players banned for life. The sports betting things
hit a new juncture. You can weigh in on either
of those. Eight seven seven nine on Fox, I'm Bernie
Fredderwick Comedy Life and Las Vegas. Fox Sports Radio, Tireck
dot Com videos. Keep it locked. You're listening to the

(01:15:01):
Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back
on the Bernie Frattles Show. We are wrapping it up
on the midnight hour, pretty rocket, spend that hour. We
go to Minnesota, Pete, you are up next. What do
you got for us tonight?

Speaker 5 (01:15:16):
Hey? What's going on? Saying?

Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Speaking?

Speaker 22 (01:15:19):
And to say what you probably wanted to say, is
you know, to quote Travis Tritt, Guys like, here's a
quarter called someone who cares. Let's keep it, keep her moving.
But the gambling thing, moral trip to it and fiscal responsibility. Right,
so you're already making enough money. Why don't we do that?
I mean, didn't work for Harold and uncut Gems. Let's
let's be smarts.

Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Yeah, Lakers, Go ahead, Lakers, yea.

Speaker 22 (01:15:44):
Monny room to say? Do you love the Vikings, your scold,
your tool? I got married to you, just saying, but
it just come back to the wolves. Just just let
it die. Toby's gone love them rit come back to
the wolves, nasried, We got the whole program.

Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Just but anyways, Hey pem luke, quickly, real quickly? Yes?
Yes or no? Yes or no? Pete, Uh, you make
enough money?

Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
Don't going to do that?

Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
No? No, no, I'm asking, Okay, I must have missed it.
Yes or no? Are you advising Danny Hurley to take
the job? Yes or no?

Speaker 22 (01:16:21):
I think Danny Hurley should probably play like Nick Saban
and just.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Is it a yes or no? It's all I want
to know, man, Yes or no? All right, thanks, Pete,
appreciate your bell. You can call back next week. I'm
going to take that as a noll. Uh. Sam And Louisiana.

Speaker 14 (01:16:35):
You're up next, all right, I would say, Hurley, Look,
the Lakers are probably backing up the truck right now. Ye.

Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Yes, So.

Speaker 14 (01:16:46):
If he can get a five year deal, five year guaranteed,
he's not taking this for one or two years, Lebron
is going to be gone and you're still there.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
But the thing about it, so is that a yes? Sam?
Are you saying yes? I'm saying yes, Okay, I accept that.
But here's the deal. They just tried that with Darvin
Ham and go ahead, you got the floor. But the
Lakers can say one thing and do another. He may
not last five years because they're weird.

Speaker 14 (01:17:14):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
Go ahead, Oh, I agree with you on that.

Speaker 14 (01:17:16):
But if they do let him go, you've still got
that guaranteed five years. You're still getting your money. And
there's not a college in the country that you couldn't
step back into and say, all right, I'm back in
the college again.

Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Well that's that you're not wrong. They're all right, Sam,
appreciate you. Bud Kent and Texas, you got the last
word on this whole matter. Tonight.

Speaker 23 (01:17:33):
Hey, Barney, I'm gonna make this real quick. No, her
should not take that job and I'll tell you why,
because it doesn't matter if he wins or lose, because
the only way he's going to get credit for it
is if he loses.

Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
Because if they.

Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
Win, that's right, you got so right.

Speaker 23 (01:17:52):
Dude, Ego maniacs there and Lebron and ad and if
they're not getting the credit for them winning, they're going
to get him fired anyway. And as far as the
gambling knows, yeah, I'm going to say until major League
Baseball bands beer, they shouldn't be getting in doing these

(01:18:16):
lifetime bands for people gambling on sport because they're making
money off of these advertisements and all this stuff for these.

Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Gambling true, that is true.

Speaker 23 (01:18:29):
Until they stop making money off it, How can you
tell your your players not to do it?

Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Well, okay, thanks a lot, appreciate you can't You're always welcome. Look,
I think we have a double edged sword here because
baseball clearly benefits from the aspect of sports betting and
legalized sports betting. It enhances the viewing population, popularity, It
certainly allows people to feed into their competitive spirit all

(01:18:57):
the reasons, and people watch more, they watch longer if
they've got some action on the game. That's undeniable. They
don't want players betting. They don't want players betting on
their own team. Therein lies the issue, not the concept
of sports betting. There in lies the issue. So it's complex.
Good stuff tonight by all the callers. The final tally.
Eleven people say no, Danny Hurley, don't take the job.

(01:19:19):
Three say yes. I'm on the no side. I explained
why earlier top of the hour. I got to get
Kevin in, I got to get to E and N.
I want to give them their day in court here.
So and just to make my point, to reiterate my point,
I think it's a circus act there, Chuck Daly said,
it's all about managing an adult daycare center. Danny Hurley
is a teacher, he's got it made in Yukon, He's

(01:19:40):
going for a three peat, and who really wants to
deal with this brownie situation? Really, you can say what
you can, say what you want, but when reality hits
the road and it unfolds a living color, it just
does not feel like it's going to be a good situation.
I want to thank all the callers, y'all did a
great job. Okay, coming up, we continue, ever so quick
clear on this keep it locked. Bernie fraddle Show, Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
Radio door listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Well, that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie fraddle
Show just keeps for rolling right along. My name is
Bernie Fraddlewick, coming you live from the tyrac dot com
studios here in Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio, tyraq dot com.
We'll help you get there. Not max selection, fast free shipping,
free road enter protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers
tyrat dot com the way tire buying should be. Thanks

(01:20:30):
to all the callers who took the time to dial up,
wait online and give their thoughts and opinions and appreciate it.
That's what makes the midnight hour goal. But we got
to get the crew in here. This Dandy Hurley thing
is a story that I'm following with great interest, and
I want to get both Kevin's and Ian's. We'll start
with Kevin. Kevin, I want to come in from left field.

(01:20:53):
I have some sources that told me part of the
reason that the g the JJ Reddick aspect of this
seems to have gone awry is because a couple of
assistants he had designs on bringing in Sam Cassell and
James Barrego aren't interested, and he can't really blame him
because everyone head coaching jobs as their own. But it

(01:21:14):
leads to the circus. All of a sudden, you pivot
to Danny early and now this so, based on everything
you've observed, what are your thoughts and at the end
of the day, do you think Danny Hurley should take
the job or not?

Speaker 6 (01:21:25):
Well, first of all, that would make sense.

Speaker 7 (01:21:27):
You know, Brego and Sam Cassell were two guys who
are named as targets for the head coaching position for
the Lakers. So to say that you basically take second
third place to be assistance for JJ Reddick, who has
zero experience coaching at all at any level. I will
certainly understand their their reservations and wanting to be assistance
for him. I'll answer the question first with my advice
as to whether or not I'd want Hurley to take

(01:21:49):
the job, and I'll say no for a couple of
different reasons. One, I think it's very difficult for a
college basketball coach, uber successful or not, to transition into
the NBA for a what is perceived at least to
be We can debate whether or not the Lakers are
a title contender.

Speaker 6 (01:22:05):
They probably aren't.

Speaker 7 (01:22:05):
Well what's perceived to be a win now situation, it
usually doesn't work out. The biggest example I can think
of off the top of my head was Billy Donovan. Now
he was some years removed from the back to back
national championships at Florida, but remember he left Florida to
go to Oklahoma City after they got rid of Scott Brooks.
They have been to the NBA Finals, I believe two
years prior, and they kept winning. They were a good team.

(01:22:28):
They made the postseason, but it certainly didn't work out.
It's just really difficult to try to bring in a
new way of doing things, new regime with a bunch
of veteran players who are already set in their ways,
who have already had a little bit of success in
winning before. That's very difficult. Now if this.

Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Will hold that thought, because I'm in agreement, we didn't
touch on that aspect of lot Cavin. In terms of
the difficulty, the only guy that's ever done is Hilarry Brown.
But the angle I was looking at, if you look
at you know, you're a husband, you're a father. It's
got to take a hell of a lot to uproot
three thousand miles away when you got a good gig,
et cetera, et cetera. The angle I'm looking at is

(01:23:05):
why would Danny Hurley turn his life into upheaval on
a wink and of promise when he's already a legend
where he's a So from Danny, I'm going to agreement
with you, these things don't work typically, Yeah, but from
Danny Hurley's standpoint, his thoughts and would you advise him
this lifestyle change and what would entail?

Speaker 6 (01:23:27):
Right, So that was gonna be my second point.

Speaker 7 (01:23:28):
First was a general sense in situations like this, now
specifically to Danny Hurley. Now we'll say, you can make
the argument, what more does he have to prove? What
is the likelihood that he's going to win a third
consecutive national championship. It's not all that likely, and the
fact that he won back to back national championships even
that to anominally it's happened three times since nineteen ninety like,
this is not a common occurrence.

Speaker 6 (01:23:49):
So the odds are against him being able to do that.

Speaker 7 (01:23:52):
Now, whether or not he can continue with the success
of the program, I think that's fairly obvious. I'm sure
he will and the chances that he's gonna to continue
to have great success and not necessarily get fired because
we look, one thing we've seen. We've seen coaches win
championships and get the boot fairly quickly afterwards. The shine
falls off pretty quickly in some situations. Look no further
than Yukon before Kevin out championship and he was out

(01:24:15):
what two three years later, So these things do happen.
So I do think there's an element of striking when
the iron is hot. The issue is the iron is
not going to cool down in one or two off seasons.
The chances are Yukon's probably still gonna make the tournament,
still gonna make it into the second weekend, make it
to the Elite eight. He's still going to be the
hottest name, if not, you know, one of the hottest names,
if not the hottest name in college basketball, for any

(01:24:37):
college job that he wants or potentially any NBA job
that he wants over the next couple of years. So,
with that being said, is this the right job at
the right time? And the answer for that is no.
With Lebron, you mentioned the specter of Lebron James looming
over your head, with Anthony Davison there, with the all
the politics going on with the Laker front office situation
is just not conducive to success. It's not worth the

(01:24:59):
ris of uprooting your family to your point to come
to a situation like this. Honestly, the best situation for
him would be like what Oklahoma City would have if
he was Mike Diagno and it.

Speaker 6 (01:25:09):
Was a young team yes that was growing.

Speaker 7 (01:25:12):
That a roster that he can actually coach up and cultivate,
that would make a lot more sense than a roster
like the Lakers right now, who are in semi transition.
They kind of want to win now, they kind of
want to build for the future. They don't really know
what they're doing, and that's even more difficult to do
when you have someone with the aura, with the presence
that Lebron James has. So for the for those reasons,

(01:25:33):
I would advise him not to take the Laker job,
but I would say definitely keep your options open at
going to the NBA, because I do think at a
certain point you do have a ceiling at the college level.

Speaker 2 (01:25:44):
All duly noted ian your thoughts.

Speaker 24 (01:25:49):
So, yeah, I guess, I guess starting with with Hurley.
I guess I'm in the minority here. I would take
it if I were him, and I like the way
you guys are it. And it's not that I necessarily
disagree with anything you guys are saying.

Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
It's okay, I think. I think in order to have
a fruitful conversation, Uh, there has to be some disagreement.
Of course, I'm cool with your answer. Tell us why
tell us, you know, break down the cost benefit analysis
of you know, he knows what he's got now versus
what he'd be moving to, and you got to include

(01:26:24):
his wife in the mix.

Speaker 25 (01:26:25):
No, I know, and you do, and that's valid.

Speaker 24 (01:26:28):
But if you're gonna uproot and move your family anywhere,
is is Southern California, not you know, the top place
to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Sure it's a great place, but but if you're from
Jersey City, you may not see it that way. No.

Speaker 24 (01:26:41):
Of course, of course, it's uprooting your family to go
anywhere is a whole thing, and it's a big move.
But if you're going like if he at some point
wants to take an NBA job and the Los Angeles
Lakers job is open right now and he's their top target,
I don't understand why it's not. I don't understand why
he wouldn't take it because he's going after a three

(01:27:03):
pet here at Yukon. But it's one of the most
appealing jobs, not only in the NBA, in sports. And
I get that, like right now, the specific situation with
the Lakers, but he's gonna be the coach well passed
when Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
He is in mind, that's theoretical. They're on their seventh
coach now and.

Speaker 24 (01:27:20):
The fourth, and I get that, but this is a
different situation. This, like, this isn't Luke walt the This
isn't This isn't Luke Walton who just you know, had
a good run with the Warriors and got a job.
This isn't Darvin Ham who was an assistant coach and
could become something. This is Dan Hurley, who is coming
off back to back NCAA Championship wins.

Speaker 25 (01:27:39):
This is a different kind of coach.

Speaker 24 (01:27:42):
Based on that, a longer leash, Yes, definitely, and he
wants the challenge. Like what everyone's saying, the Thunder, You know,
it's not just you guys saying this. It's a great
take that the Thunder would be a better situation for
him or some a team like that that's younger makes sense.
He's the guy who wants challenges like this. The fact
that there's so many people looking at this and saying
this is not the ideal time for him to step in.

Speaker 25 (01:28:03):
I feel like he's the kind of guy. He's like
Jim Harbaugh.

Speaker 24 (01:28:05):
He's the kind of guy who would look at it
and be like, you know what, I will I'll take
the challenge.

Speaker 25 (01:28:09):
I think I can do it. I think if anyone
can do it, it's me.

Speaker 24 (01:28:12):
And and honestly, something else that isn't really being said,
as long as you have Lebron James, you have a
chance of winning the title.

Speaker 25 (01:28:19):
I get that he's old.

Speaker 2 (01:28:20):
I think I think the fact that he's there at
this stage in his career is a complete negative. They're
winning nothing with him. Go ahead, you got the last word.

Speaker 24 (01:28:27):
No, no, And that's valid. But I think at the
end of the day, I just disagree. I think he's
still one of the top players in the league and
capable of winning a championship, and Dan Hurley is a
good enough coach to do it with him.

Speaker 25 (01:28:38):
So that's my take on it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
All right, Well, he'd have to take the same roster.
Basically they're going to have if he opts back in
with fifty one million, and I mean, it'd be beyond
a miracle, the banning of players for a lifetime. Kevin figures,
is this what needs to be done?

Speaker 7 (01:28:53):
Or thoughts, well, yeah, I don't know what the other
option would be. That this is something that's been taboo forever.
We go back to the p role situation. It's and
especially if you're talking about betting on your team or
against your team in a game that you actually are
participating in. Uh, there's no excuse for that. You absolutely
know what the rules are going in. I know one
of the college says, you have to sit down and

(01:29:13):
talk to all the players they do all thats, go
through all of these situations with them, and tell them exactly,
exactly and explicitly what you can and cannot do. So Yeah, unfortunately,
to take to take the term out of somebody else's
mouthful called on the show last Hour, you got to.

Speaker 6 (01:29:27):
Give them a death penalty when it comes to this.

Speaker 7 (01:29:29):
And you know now that I guess the key situation
here will be if it was a major player, because
this is kind of a fringe you know player, If
there is like a star player that ends up doing
something like this, the heads are really going to roll.
But ultimately, you know, this is something that has to
be done because you can't have the integrity of the
sport come into question. And this is the slippery slope
argument that a lot of people had when sports gambling
became legal legal on the federal level.

Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
Pretty difficult to disagree with any of that, Kevin. And
before I get to e and I just got a
tweet from someone named Harry says Bernie, there was always
a reason, that's for what's betting was kept out of
the locker room. Players betting on their own sports only
a matter of time. So we hear about an athlete
who gets into trouble financially and throws a sporting event
that they are participating in. We already had that with
Johntay Porter.

Speaker 6 (01:30:13):
Sure did it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
It's happening now. As a matter of fact. One of
the reasons I dove into this topic today is it
was reported Thursday that there were two additional players charged
in this betting scandal that prompted the NBA to ban
Johntay Porter for life. So two other guys, Timothy McCormick
and malmood Mola and by the way, there's other players

(01:30:36):
that are being investigated. So this is a this is
a very fluid situation. Ian your thoughts on banning players
for life and the relationship between sports betting and major leagues.

Speaker 24 (01:30:46):
Now, I just feel like they knew what they were
getting into. There have been so many different examples at
this point of guys, I agree, being suspended, you know,
and now we've kind of passed into territory where they're
there's enough examples like that, there's enough precedent set where
I feel like it's it's completely warranted to ban them
for life if they're still doing it.

Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
Yeah, you guys are right. I mean, part of the
other the other aspect of that question being answered is
the law is supposed to be a teacher, and if
people see guys getting banned for life, maybe that will
cause them to finally, uh, you know, take pause and
realize the gravity of the situation. Although so far it

(01:31:31):
still hasn't, you know, necessarily been the case.

Speaker 25 (01:31:34):
I'm just curious.

Speaker 24 (01:31:35):
I'm really wondering if it's a if these have been
really low level athlete, you know, low level guys, if
it's again you know, obviously Otani was a big name,
and then you know, nothing's been proven there. But if
it is a really big name, I wonder how people's
opinions on this matter change, you know, because no one
wants to.

Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
Ban is a pretty big name.

Speaker 24 (01:31:55):
No, you mean a current player, a current player? What
what if when Minyama is doing that stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
You know, it's an excellent point that boy, the legal
then there you go, there you go. That's a great
great that they ended on that one. I like that
because so far right other than well, look, the point
is duly noted. What are you going to do if
you know, if Mookie betts his names? I'm joking, of course,

(01:32:24):
you know. Uh that that one left me tongue tied,
because if if you really think about it, boy, you know,
it's an equal law apply across the board, or or
you know, is there preferential treatment? I don't think. I
don't think baseball knows what did I really think they're
They're as confused as I've ever been. All Right, coming
up eight months ago, on my show, I had a

(01:32:45):
commentary about a gentleman who I'm a big fan of,
who burst upon the scene, Uh and people were attracted
to this individual because we don't have royalty in this country.
Our athletes and our entertainers are our royalty. So there
was a real fascination with this individual. Here's a clue.
He's a college football coach. I love the guy, but
he ended up four to eight. But where do you

(01:33:07):
hear the parallel between what I said? Then how you
might even apply to Caitlin Clark? Now stand by, that's
coming up bym Bernie Frattle. We're coming to your life
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tirerat dot com studios.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show
on Fox Sports Radio. All right, back in the Bernie
Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio Comedy live from the tarat

(01:33:29):
dot com studios here in a Las Vegas. You know,
the circle of life to me is always fascinating. Let's
turn the clock back eight months before I do. Obviously,
the the number one name in sports circles right now
is Caitlin Clark, right, all time leading scorer. She was

(01:33:52):
the number one overall draft pick. She got a shoe
deal forty million, and she's getting quote unquote the rookie
treatment in the WA and by the way, so it
was Angel Reese, but it's a little different for Caitlyn Clark.
And I'll lay out why in a second. And by
the way, before you know, anybody loses her mind about
she's not deserving of any of this. And because she's

(01:34:15):
started slowly, I would remind people most great athletes start slowly.
I did a whole feature on that a couple of
weeks ago, and I laid out a lot of big names,
from Willie Mays to King Grifford. How about Steph Curry.
Steph Curry was like one hundred and seventy pounds when
he got in the NBA. Now it was like one
hundred and ninety. You know, they almost traded him. They
were gonna choose Monte Alis overhad but he figured it out.

(01:34:35):
Now we'll see Caitlin Clark has to figure it out.
I'm not saying she's going to be the next Steph Curry,
but the parallels are there. Oh, by the way, while
you're while you are, you know, investing your time on
bashing Caitlin Clark. Remember she's the fastest player to one
hundred points and fifty rebounds in the history of the WNBA.
In their twenty six years and only her and one

(01:34:57):
other person reached one hundred points, fifty rebounds, and fifty
assists in their first ten games. The other Sabrina Ionescu.
That's just part of the equation. Okay, just tell the
whole story. I know she's getting blitzed, she's getting double
team she's getting trapped. If you want to follow her
hard when she's going to the hole, fine, it's part
of the game. But when you body slam someone from

(01:35:20):
behind with an elbow to the back and call him
a bac and then deny it in the post game,
is that a basketball play? That's a little different, isn't it.
That's the ultimate sign of respect. She's in their freaking heads. Now. Look,
I'm not predicting she's gonna be a Hall of Fame
or anything, but I will say this, eight months ago
we had a similar situation. I defended this guy too.

(01:35:40):
I love Deon Sanders, and eight months ago he was
the moment's rage. And let's turn back the clock and
I want you to listen to what I had to say,
because think about inserting the name Caitlin Clark every time
you hear Dion Sanders, and see if you don't find
the parallel. Let's give it a listen. I want to
talk about Dion Sanders for a minute because I'm a

(01:36:02):
big Dion fan and I love what's happening in Colorado,
every bit of it, and I'm not shocked that people
are triggered. People are triggered by Dion, and I want
to touch on a thing or two about Dean so
we can maybe please stop the bull junk, which we
won't because it slays me to observe that Deann is

(01:36:24):
so polarizing. People are rooting for him to fail or
they resent his success. And you all know, the opposite
of love is not hate, it's indifference. You have to
have that same emotion. There has to be that same
level of caring. So people hate Dion, I love Dion.
And by the way, it's all about the story. This

(01:36:45):
whole story is riveting, it's captivating, and for some I
guess it's maddening. And yeah, that's a you problem. Maybe
you're angry because Dion jumped the line, he didn't pay
his dues. Other coaches out there are are are railing
on him. Okay, it's become a circus act. It'll be
a Circus Act in about ten hours from now when
they tee it up against Usc and all the cool

(01:37:08):
people will be there because they want to see and
be seen. And if you think Diana is merely a loudmouth,
shameless self promoter, w You're wrong, okay. And what creates?
I know it's against a lot of practice psychology without
a license, But what creates is phenomenon. It's quite simple.
Most people that grow up, they have dreams of wealth
and fame and happiness and style and social influence and

(01:37:30):
so on. They watch fairy tales as a kid. There's
a deep seated attraction to heroism in this country. And
for some if other people achieve what you do not,
then you become very resentful. And that is I think
the prevailing attitude toward towards Dion Sanders. And I'm going

(01:37:51):
to defend Dean Sanders. He's not a perfect person, but
I believe he's a good person. Travis Hunter, right there,
let's get it right there, yend, I said these were
my comments last October. Third. You see the parallels. He
achieved a status in life that very few can, and

(01:38:11):
so other people are jealous. We elevate people to their
highest plateau in life only to tear them down. We
do with politicians, certainbody with athletes. And when you consider
Dion's meteoric rise and how he built Colorado and everybody
wanted to be there, you see the parallel. You come
to Las Vegas, you want to see Kaitlyn Clark play,

(01:38:31):
going to pay one hundred ninety seven dollars a ticket? Well,
the market speaks.

Speaker 14 (01:38:37):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:38:37):
By the way, she had thirty points Friday night. They
won their third game, and you know the schedule makers
didn't do them any favor as well. And their first
I think eleven twelve games, they played an average game
like every one point eight days against the team's best.
By the way, Kayler Clark's not exactly surrounded by a
bunch of stars either, So let's tell the whole story.
She may never be what Dion was in football, or

(01:38:58):
certainly what Steph Curry is, But do you really want
to throw the trash out ten I mean ten games
in people are just lying and wait. And I saw
the same parallel. People were bashing Dion two and I
defended Dion. Now Caitlin Clark has in life. I didn't understand.
She's very, very accessible. I talked to some media people

(01:39:20):
here talk to her when she was in town. Very accommodating,
very friendly, and she had some things to say earlier
last evening as well. Ian, Let's give it a listen.

Speaker 26 (01:39:31):
No, I mean, basketball is competitive. I get it. You know,
sometimes your emotions get the best of you. Happened to
me multiple times throughout the course of my career. People
are competitive. It is what it is, you know. And
she's having a tremendous season season. She's played great basketball
in my eyes, probably in first place for six Player
of the Year.

Speaker 6 (01:39:50):
She's been great.

Speaker 26 (01:39:50):
Off the bench for them. I think she had what
twenty five here last night and really helped them win
the game. So No, and that's just not where my
focus is. You know, that's not what I think about
on a day to day basis. I think about my team.
I think about the ways that I can get better,
you know, And you know, it's just basketball at the
end of the day. You know, there's no grudges, there's
nothing like that. It's a sport. It's competitive. It's not

(01:40:12):
gonna be nice all the time. That's not what basketball is.
And I think people that play that at the highest
level understand that all.

Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
Right, So I'm gonna ask you to play it one
more time because I'm gonna set it up differently this time.
Caitlin Kennedy Clark pulled a dirty trick on you. No
argument about it. Do you think Kennedy Clark owes you
an apology.

Speaker 26 (01:40:36):
If I get it? You know, sometimes your emotions get
the best of you. Happened to me multiple times throughout
the course of my career. People are competitive. It is
what it is, you know. And she's having a tremendous
season season. She's played great basketball in my eyes, probably
in first place for sixth Player of the Year. She's
been great off the bench for them. I think she
had what twenty five here last night and really helped

(01:40:57):
them win the game. So no, and that's just not
where my focus is. You know, that's not what I
think about on a day to day basis. I think
about my team. I think about ways that I can
get better, you know, And you know, it's just basketball
at the end of the day. You know, there's no grudges,
there's nothing like that. It's a sport. It's competitive. It's
not gonna be nice all the time. That's not what
basketball is. And I think people that play that at

(01:41:18):
the highest level understand that.

Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
Caitlin Clark taking the high road. She struck every note
correctly in my view. Now, by the way, Kennedy Clark
is a damn good player, a damn good two way
player that really knows the game. I'm sorry, thanks he
and I've had Clark on the mind kids. Kennedy Carter,
thanks for correcting me. And I also think Angel Reese
is a damn good player, tremendous low post player, great defender,

(01:41:43):
a double double machine, superb passer, sees the floor, has
a has a great I think grasp on the concept
of the game. So I don't know why you got
a cheer and jump up and down when Kennedy Carter
slams Caitlin to the floor, it just diminishes the product.
All right, I'm off my horse. Let's see how this goes.

(01:42:03):
Why did I bring this up? Because eight months ago
we were talking about Dion Sanders no different, no different.
People rise from to a plateaul to try to tear
him back down, a defended Dan and am defendant Caitlin.
Guess what, though, doesn't matter. We're all watching, and that's
the most important thing coming up. We got Christophet's World
of Soccer, but first go back to our guy, Kevin
Figures with the latest.

Speaker 7 (01:42:24):
All right, we had a full slate of Major League
Baseball action on Friday night. In the highlight was in
New York, where the Yankees hosted the Dodgers for the
first time since twenty sixteen at Yankee Stadium. The game
scoreless in the top of the eleventh, but then say
Escar Hernandez of the Dodgers hit a two run double
to give them the two nothing lead. Aaron Judge did
hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh,
but LA would hold on for the two to one victory,

(01:42:46):
snapping the Yankees win streak at eight games. The White
Sox is not a fourteen game losing streak. They get
a home run from Louise Robert and a seven to
two win over the Red Sox. Bobby w Junior at
three hits and helped the Royals overcome an eight run
deficit to beat the man Earners ten to nine and
eight game history by the way there for Bobby Junior.
Josh Bell went deep for Miami in a three to
two victory over Cleveland. Wins for Washington Baltimore and Saint

(01:43:08):
Louis from Bervaldez, pitching a complete game and allowing just
one run for the Astros as they defeat the Angels
at seven to one. As we mentioned talking about Caitlin Clarks,
she tied or season high with thirty points on Friday
night with an eighty five to eighty three Indiana Fever
victory over Washington. In golf second round at the Memorial Tournament,
Scottie Scheffler a three stroke lead over Victor Hovlin, Roy
McElroy and Xander Schoffley six strokes back Martin Kaimer in

(01:43:32):
a three way tie for first after one round.

Speaker 6 (01:43:34):
At the Live Tournament in Houston. Back to Bernie Frettle.

Speaker 2 (01:43:37):
Thanks Kevin, that was a little one, buddy.

Speaker 6 (01:43:39):
The one's doing well, doing well. Thanks for asking. I
appreciate it, all.

Speaker 2 (01:43:42):
Right, man, that's awesome. Alrighty hit this time every week
we take you all the way around the world, and
there's actually some real news coming out of Brazil that
will tie in. But let's not forget we're just weeks
away from World Cup soccer. Check that we're weeks away
from Olympic soccer and pair us. That's why every week
we bring you Christ Prophet's World of Soccer.

Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
The greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drama. It's
all here in this report from the World of Soccer.

Speaker 6 (01:44:29):
Bernie.

Speaker 27 (01:44:29):
This weekend's World of Soccer, we are taking a trip
to America to talk about football, and I mean American football.
There has been a story that actually involves soccer in
the NFL these past few days, and it comes to
us thanks to some very poor choice of words from
Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers and unfortunately a

(01:44:53):
lot of news aggregators that have just decided to run
with completely false truths, false information, and has really brought
some real confusion to the world. You may have heard
that the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers are
going to be playing a game this year in Sal Paulo, Brazil.

(01:45:13):
And you may have also heard that fans are being
encouraged not to wear their green jerseys. The Eagles wear green,
the Packers wear greens, and players won't be able to
wear green because of some sort of gangs in sal Paulo.
This is one hundred percent false and the truth is
soccer related. Let's step back and try to explain where

(01:45:35):
this all began. Josh Jacobs was on The green Light
with Chris Long Podcasts and made these remarks where he said, quote,
you know, they said that the part of Brazil we're
going to, you can't wear green at They said it's
something to do with gangs and stuff. It led to
aj Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles then going on x
formerly known as Twitter and saying the million dollar question

(01:45:56):
is if we can't go anywhere wear a certain color,
why are we going this We prompted backlash from the NFL,
and Jacobs has since apologized for these comments, but not
before a bunch of news sites and aggregators out there
on this information jumped all over it and spread the
rumor far and wide, and now many many people out
there believe that gangs will shoot you in Sal Paulo

(01:46:18):
if you wear green, or in a more team version
of this, that both the Eagles and the Packers both
teams that wear green. The Eagles of the home team,
that somehow they are being told by Brazilians not to
wear green, that they have to wear other jurys of
the game.

Speaker 6 (01:46:32):
That's not true.

Speaker 27 (01:46:33):
This is a soccer story, and let me try to
explain it's not even that serious to begin with. Let's
talk about the club in the stadium where the Eagles
and Packers will be playing.

Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
Sport.

Speaker 27 (01:46:43):
Club Corinthians Polista, better simply known now as Corinthians, was
founded in nineteen ten by railway workers. It is today
one of the most successful clubs in Brazil with seven
national titles, three Copa de Brazil trophies, and it is
one of the most supported clubs in the world, with
over thirty million fans. The stadium, Arena Corinthians, is known

(01:47:08):
by the sponsorship for reasons. Neo Kumicus Stadium was made
in twenty fourteen for the FIFA World Cup, hosted six matches,
including the opening match of.

Speaker 6 (01:47:17):
That World Cup.

Speaker 27 (01:47:18):
It is a very fun It is a very modernized
place to watch a soccer game. Now this gets into
why the Green, why the greencris It is because Corinthians,
a very decorated club, has a crosstown rival by the
name of Palmeras. It is part of the derby Paulista
sometimes simply just the derby in that country, because they

(01:47:39):
know which derby you are talking about. A very heated,
very passionate rivalry. Paul Maris is a club whose primary
colors are green and white. Their home colors, they wear
green jersey, white pants, and for their way it's the
opposite white shirt, green pants. It's always green with them.

(01:48:00):
Because of this, Corinthians and their fans have a informal
band on the color green. Fans avoid wearing the color
green to their games. In fact, there has been an
incident in the past where a Corinthians player was wearing
green cleats as part while playing on a game and
the club find him for wearing green.

Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
On his kit.

Speaker 27 (01:48:24):
It is a tradition, much like how Ohio State fans
decide on the week of the rivalry against Michigan to
just use an X in the place of any M
in any kind of text they send out, crossout M,
avoid the letter M that entire week. But it's just
that it is a tradition, is a tradition that Corinthians follow.

(01:48:44):
Would some fans prefer them not to wear green in
their stadiums for the Eagles and Packers, Yes, I am sure. However,
the club has not told the NFL that neither of
these teams can wear green. The Philadelphia Eagles right now
haven't decided if they will wear green or if they
will wear black. And to be honest, it's not even
the first time green's been acceptable in Arena Corinthians. To

(01:49:05):
begin with, as I said, this was a World Cup venue,
which meant that many Brazilians were wearing the green Brazilian
national team jerseys to the stadium. Green means many things
to the Corinthian fan base about Paul Marris, but what
it is not is a gang color. While soccer fans
may be passionate, may be very very very passionate, they

(01:49:28):
will not attack you just because they see the color green.
This has several implications and it drives me insane for
a few reasons. It presumes a lot of these fans,
or a lot of Brazilians to be unthinking animals that somehow,
if they see the wrong color, much like a raging bowl,
that they will simply charge at it.

Speaker 1 (01:49:47):
That is not the case.

Speaker 27 (01:49:48):
It presumes like that Salpoulo is dangerous and to be clear,
to be clear, there is crime in sal Polo. There
is crime everywhere in the world, and for millionaire athletes, yes,
you probably will have to go with extra security precautions
because that is just the state of the world sometimes.
But this episode has unfortunately spread fear. It is unspread

(01:50:11):
doubt where it comes to these the idea of the
NFL playing a game in Brazil. Salpolo's Mayer has come
out and decried it, saying that Salpolo is a vast metropolis,
one of the largest in the world, like many other cities,
that faces social inequality and crime. But telling players not
to wear green is unnecessary and the gang references reinforce

(01:50:32):
the stereotypes that only escalates prejudice. And you know what,
I fully agree with him and Bernie. Honestly, I feel
a little crazy because I feel like this was a
story I was aware of. When the NFL schedule came out,
it was pointed out by several fans on Twitter that
there was this thing with Corinthians where they didn't like
the color of green. I was not expecting it to
pop up again like this over a month later. This

(01:50:54):
is part of what the NFL wants to do if
it wants to spread its joy of its sports the world,
and sometimes you have to start seeing the rest of
the world as human as well, not as dangerous areas
to simply walk around.

Speaker 6 (01:51:07):
Maybe the NFL could.

Speaker 27 (01:51:08):
Have chosen a better area or better teams that don't
have this green element to it. But to be honest,
it should not be a problem and it will not
be a problem. And Bernie, I know you, like me,
have a background in formal journalism and one of the
things that tears me up about this is a lot
of these aggregators on Twitter who take this information and

(01:51:28):
they have off youed, no apologies, no retractions, not even corrections.
That bad information is still out there right now to
this day, and it taints and colors this game, and
it taints in colors Salpolo and Corinthians Football Club in
ways that are just completely unfair. If you wish to
be true to the spirit of Corinthians, don't wear green.

(01:51:49):
But if you are there to support either the Eagles
or the Packers, there's probably going to be an exception
made for you. Because all this is, at the end
of the day, is a tradition held by a sports
club here too, by their fans and their player and
their organization. It is not a band placed on anyone else,
but it is a soccer tradition and it is a

(01:52:10):
fun tradition like no other out there because it is
fun to see these things in the world and it
is fun to see them in the world of soccer.

Speaker 6 (01:52:17):
We'll see you next time, Bernie.

Speaker 27 (01:52:18):
Copa America is coming, euro Championship is coming. This is
a great time of year to dive into the sport.

Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Chris Sel is a really strong, strong I gotta tell you.
There has been a lot of misinformation apparently regarding the
color green and why you're not supposed to wear it,
and people have gone forth with stories without perhaps journalistically
checking them out, and so I guess the bottom line

(01:52:46):
is it's good that you were able to step in
and sort of set the record straight. At the end
of the day, though, when you got a green and
white team playing a green and white team and greens
and issue, maybe the NFL could have thought this through
just a little bit. Coming up, the Jake Paul Mike
Tyson boxing matches rescheduled for November fifteenth for very good reason,

(01:53:08):
and I think it's for the better. As I said
last week, this fight's going on. Both sides want it
and there's a lot of money involved, and I'm glad
Mike's okay. He had an ulcer situation. We'll talk about
what's up. And by the way, it's move to a
Friday night and we'll share what the ramifications are with
that coming up. By the way, I want to remind
everybody shortly after the show tonight, the podcast will be

(01:53:31):
going up. You know'll take care of that. If you
miss any of tonight's show, I'll be sure to check
out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts. Be sure to follow, rate and review
the podcast. Again, just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts, and you'll see the show pop. You'll
see the show posted right after we get off the air.
I'm Bernie Fraddlewick, Coming you live in Las Vegas at

(01:53:52):
Fox Sports Radio tire Act dot com studios. We wrap
up the show coming up. Keep it locked and listen
to the Bernie fraddle Show Fox Sports Radio. All right,
we're wrapping it up on the Bernie Fottle Show, Coming
you live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio tyrec
dot Com studios. Before I go any further, I want
to thank my broadcast team back in Los Angeles. They've

(01:54:15):
been with me since well eleven pm Friday night. And
I want to thank Mark Ramsay, our technical producer. Great
job is always Kevin Figures on the updates, great commentary,
his thoughts on whether or not Deany Hearlely should take
the job, etc. And of course he and Roddy doing
a great job is always managing through all the callers

(01:54:38):
and other very rockets, productive midnight hour and great job
by everybody. All right, So we talked about this last Friday.
It was announced last week that the Jake Paul Mike
Tyson boxing match would not go on July twentieth. Mike
Tyson had a fairly serious medical episode on an airplane.

(01:55:02):
I think the plane even had to land. And Mike's
had issues with ulcers in his adult life, and this
was serious. It was serious enough to where he needed
some real medical treatment, and as a result of that,
the doctor thought it would be in his best interest
to not train or train significantly curtail his training in

(01:55:25):
the near term. And Tyson's pros pro and believe me,
when you are training for a boxing match, it's a
different ballgame versus just standard standard training. A little bit
about this. I entered a non sanctioned tournament back in
twenty seventeen, and when you trained specifically for about it,

(01:55:45):
it's a big It's a big damn deal. There's too
much money involved in this fight. Too many people want
to see it. It's actually gonna count against their records.
There was some speculation that, you know, they might not
do the fight. It's about a day. No, it's it's not.
Mike Tyson knows what he's doing, and Jake Paul knows
what he's doing. Then two of them are gonna get together.
We'll see what happens. You're gonna watch. It's gonna be

(01:56:07):
on Netflix. I believe people are gonna watch. People lact
like it's beneath them. It's not. And Jake Paul agreed
to it too, because he said, you know, let's let's
do this right. Let's get this done right. So Mike
Tyson was heating the doctor's orders and there's nothing wrong
with that. The only story involved here is it's moved
to November fifteenth. It's still going to be played in

(01:56:28):
Jerry Dome, and what's interesting is not going to be
on a Friday night instead of Saturday night. For one
simple reason, the Dallas Cowboys host the Houston Texans on Monday,
November eighteenth for Monday Night Football. So in order to
get the stadium ready to set up for the Cowboys game.

(01:56:48):
They're gonna move the instead of having to fight on
Saturday nights, They're gonna have it on Friday night to
give them a you know, an additional day to get
the stadium ready for Monday night football. Now, the original
July day was not anywhere near the NFL season, and
so there was no competition. I mean, the NBA Finals
would have been done certainly July twentieth, college football still

(01:57:09):
a month out. But again, on May twenty sixth, on
a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, Mike Tyson had
a fairly serious ulster flare up that required real medical attention,
and Tyson was forced to postpone the fight after a
health checkup and the doctor's required him to limit his
training over the next few weeks until his condition improved.

(01:57:31):
Tyson was quoted he says, although we had to postpone
the fight, I will resume training shortly. I'm thankful to
the medical staff that treated me, and to MVP Netflix
and AT and T Stadium for working diligently to find
the best rescheduled date for all parties. While we have
a new date, the result will be the same no
matter when we fight. Jake Paul is going to get
knocked out. Tyson, by the way, celebrates his fifty eighth

(01:57:55):
birthday three weeks from Sunday. I actually believe this fight
will be a little bit more anticipated than people realize.
We're talking about Mike Tyson, who I've had the chance
to visit with many times. I find him one of
the most fascinating people and the history of the planet
and former heavyweight world champion. You can't beat that, right.

(01:58:18):
Jake Paul takes a lot of heat I think undeserving.
He put Tyrone Woodley to sleep twice. I know he's
this YouTube look to get to this point again, the
opposite of hate is not love, it's indifference. If people
can hate on Jake Paul, that means he's received he's
achieved a certain plateau. He's done it. People are buying tickets,

(01:58:39):
people want to watch. Look, as a society, we have
been fascinated with gladiator sports since the beginning of time.
So we'll be watching. Believe me, it'll draw a crowd,
there'll be conversations, and we'll see what happens. But it's
all good. It's all in the up and up. Give

(01:59:00):
Mike Tyson a chance to heal, give them a chance
to train properly. That's what we want. We want both
fighters healthy and ready to go, especially the chance Mike Tyson,
this is actually gonna count on this record. It's gonna
do for the Bernie Fraddle Show. Back on these airwaves
Saturday night, eleven PM. Lots of stuff to get to,
including a preview of Game two of the NBA Finals,

(01:59:20):
brand New fool, what my name?

Speaker 5 (01:59:22):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
The drill, We'll cover the NFL, we got some baseball
stuff and will be all around the globe. So that's
gonna do it for the Bernie Frattle Show. Keep it
locked up. Next The Great Fellas on Fox Sports Radio
