Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports d.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, what is going on? Everybody? We will get to
the finals and some interesting comments that I actually uh
squided my eyes. I had some ruffled eyebrows. Here, we'll
get to that. We're broadcasting live from the tirack dot
com studios, tirerac dot com. We'll help get you there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
(00:26):
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com. The
way tire buying should be, you know, old and happy
to be with you again. Man. So Chris, our technical producer,
he mentioned just before the show, he's like, oh, Olden's
walking into the studio right now, And so I said
to him, I was like, could you post him up?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
And I said back, I am five foot six pretty
much anybody can post me up right now?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Is that right? Yeah, Chris can get a bucket on
you right now. How's it going? Oh?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I don't know about all that.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Okay, he could just post you up and get the
ball exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
That's all. That's that's pretty much it now.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
What you'd allow it an entry pass. But that's all.
How are things with you? Man? Everything good?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Everything is great. I'm six feet above ground. I'm happy, man,
I hear.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
You on that. So I'm curious your thoughts and we'll
compare notes over here on the NBA Finals. Plenty of
stuff going on outside of basketball that we will get
to us open going on right now. Do you have
any love for golf? Majors Old And yeah, I'm just asking.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Oh my god, that's what I need to be talking
about golf instead of basketball. My goodness, do I I listen?
I am a fiend for golf.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Really yeah, I didn't know this.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
And the funny thing about it, and I'm not saying
it because he just tied Dave Schambeau, but I did
have Rory winning this.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh really okay, both at minus seven.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah. So me and my brother, you know, we golf
and we had a little side bet action going. I
picked day chamb I mean, I picked McElroy and he
picked Patrick Cantley. Okay, and this was when, of course
he was leading. So you know, I'm like, I'm not
going to jump on the guy that's leading right now.
There was only one guy that was able to do that,
and what Yeah, so that's it. So now we have
(02:20):
a second guy. But he's Oh look, Scotty Scheffler was horrible.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
This, Oh man, he was. I finally made some money
on Scotty Scheffler being bad today. Really, yes, the first
two rounds. He's the world's number one golfer. I'll play.
I was doing round props. As far as betting goes,
I took under sixty nine and a half for I don't.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Know all that stuff. I just say win, lose.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah right now. But I love the round prop bets.
There's some great value you can get on that. So
it's par seventy at the US Open. So he had
to be one under the first day, I'm like, I'll
take that bet. He was over, and I'm like, okay,
it's still Scottie Scheffler. He's probably gonna bounce back. Nope,
didn't bounce back the second day. I didn't bet anything
(03:07):
Scotty Scheffler. Yesterday in the third round and today, I'm like,
he's been over every single time. I don't think he's
gonna shoot sixty nine or under today. So I finally
took the over and I finally cashed in on Scotti
Scheffler not being good at the US Open.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
That's awesome. I'll tell you this though, Pinehurst number two
has to be one of the hardest golf courses in
the world. Yeah, it's insane. And so I'm watching these
guys shoot these high numbers. I'm saying myself, Okay, if
I have to walk for four days, what's my score?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
M Yeah, sure, it's crazy. I saw Jordan Speith, he
was struggling earlier today. I think he had a couple
of bogies, and then he made a birdie on I
think the ninth hole something like that, and the look
on his face olden. He just looked like, oh, finally,
finally I made a birdie. Man, this score is driving
(04:00):
me crazy. But I like the drama. And like you mentioned,
you got Rory and the Shambo tied at minus seven,
and I do like the Shambo very nfl like celebrating
if he gets a birdie. It's not one of these
a little wave to the crowd, maybe like a little
tip of the cap. He's just pumping it like, yeah,
let's go. I love that shambo. It's very ungulf like.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
That's that ways all I have to while he's got
to save that for waste management. You can't do it
at the US Open or any of the other places.
It has to be waste management. That's where it belongs.
You know what I don't like, believe it or that.
I don't like the USA Chance. Okay, you know what,
I'm not a fan of that because you know, to me,
that's kind of disrespectful. I get it's the US Open
(04:45):
and all that, but that's like, you know, if you
go play the British Open or the Open, you know
them making you know, statements. I just that part I
don't like because most of these guys are damn near
US citizens anyway.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
So you know what I don't like is a par
five and as soon as the t shot is hit,
you have these maniacs yelling good in the hole?
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, good luck with that, man, what are we doing?
Good luck with that one.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I wanted to get your thoughts on this. With the
NBA Finals, we got Game five tomorrow night, and there
were a couple of comments that Kyrie Irving has made
that caught my attention. And so right after Game four,
that was when Dallas just clabbered the Celtics by thirty
eight points, beat down City, and Kyrie Irving talked about
(05:37):
Luka Doncic. After that game, and he said he made
a few people eat their words. Now, there were a
lot of criticisms flying out there. Brian Windhorst, most notably,
just undressed the Dallas Mavericks said that Luca was a
hole on the court. He's not defending anybody whatsoever, which
was completely true. And that's what I thought about Kyrie's comments.
(06:00):
I'm like, it's gonna take more than just one game
for critics to eat their words. Luca has been a
turnstile defensively, and he's a world class player. I'm not
expecting all NBA first team defense or anything like that,
but you can't be, like windhors said, a whole on
the cord. And so one good performance. That's not enough
(06:22):
for me for any critics to be eating their words
after three horrible games, one good game. It's gonna take
more than that for critics to eat their words. What
do you say about that?
Speaker 3 (06:31):
I agree with you on that, but unfortunately it shows
us where we are in this world and this generation
of thought process, because it's all about being in the
moment and being prisoners of the moment. Because to me,
you had one good game, like you said, but how
about all the other ones? One of the things I
will say, though, I thought Dallas should have won game
(06:55):
two and three, but again, the defense wasn't there. To
you point to Brian Wenthorse's point about the turnstile defense,
or as we used to say back in there, it's
a matter doer ole. Yeah, And so to me, he
finally locked in and the bench performed. That's all it was.
(07:15):
Luca made a concerted effort to at least look like
he played defense the other games he did not, and
then we saw what happened. Boston won the games even
when they had the twelve point lead, the thirteen point
lead rather in game three. And so to me, it's
(07:37):
just like, y'all gotta stop doing this because okay, so
what happens if you lose tomorrow? They're not eating anything.
So why you get the consolation, Oh I didn't get swept. No,
you have to take this. If I was them, I
would just be silent, Yeah, silent until this thing is
over and then we can talk about it.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
I think sometimes I can be guilty of it where
you read too much into comments, but I think there
is something to be said of not reading enough into
certain comments and when you're hearing stuff like, Yay, he
made some critics eat their words. It's like, you guys
are still down three to one, you know what I mean.
(08:19):
Like I would prefer to hear something like, hey, we
haven't done anything yet. It's gonna take three more games
or whatever. Right, Like one game and we're talking about
critics eating their words. I just don't like what that
seems to forecast going forward for the MAVs. You know,
Game four was great for them, but it is going
(08:39):
to be absolutely uphill from here on out to get
Game five on the road after Boston no showed in
Game four. That is gonna be very, very difficult. And
I just don't like the mindset being like, yeah, Luca
made critics eat their words tonight. It's like, man, you
got so much more work to do before that becomes
a reality.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Oh definitely. I think is trying to be supportive of
his teammate, and that's what I'm saying. He could have
gone about it differently, used different words, or even say, hey,
you know what, this was a step in the right
direction for Luca. Yeah, and so that I would have
been like, oh okay, cool. But again, a lot of
these guys, and I'm a fan of Kyrie's you know,
(09:19):
regardless of everything, I'm still a fan of his game,
and I think he's He's an incredible guy when you
you know, if you know who he is and what
he's about. So I get all that. I'm not trying
to knock him or anything like that. But again, these guys,
they just don't know how to read the room sometimes.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, no, I hear you on that. By the way,
I'm curious about the stakes of this US open bet.
What are we talking about here? I saw something.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Where one dollar.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I saw something.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Today Duke's places.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I saw something today. You know, these fantasy football leagues,
if you come in last place, you could whatever. You have,
to shave your head or do something crazy. There was
someone who finished in last place of his fantasy football
league had to spend twenty four hours at McDonald's. So
I don't know if that was Yah, how bad. It's
not too bad that. That's what my girlfriend said to
(10:20):
me too. I'm like, you're sleeping in there. I get that.
You can have ice cream all day and twenty four hours. Man,
after an hour, you're like, oh gosh, I haven't even
begun here. I think that's a long time to just
be hanging out.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
That's nothing. You just break it nothing. You have to
think of it like this. Okay, if I was working,
i'd be here for eight hours and nine hours okay,
so eleven hours. So I just gotta do two shifts.
That's not that big. I had a friend make a wager. Okay,
it was a what was he about two fifty or
five hundred. It was either quarter of a million or
(10:56):
half a million, okay. He had to spend a certain number,
certain number of days in a hotel bathroom in Las Vegas.
All right, yeah, like literally everything has to be done
in the bathroom. He has to sleep in there. Now,
that's that's the one. I was like, Oh no, you
imagine the stench.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Yeah, I mean, so how for high on twenty four hours?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
No, he had to do like two weeks or something
like that. Weeks. Oh yeah, it was a big bat.
And I'm like, I'll do twenty four hours in a bathroom,
Uh huh, that's easy. For half a meal, I'll do that,
But two weeks yeah something like that. Oh no, two weeks.
Gotta eat in there? You got it?
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Did he make it? He lost? That's what you know.
It's bad. You're like, you know what, I'll pay the
half mill. I can't take it anymore.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
He couldn't finish.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Wow, that is uh, that's something right there.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Man.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
All right, we got a lot to get to here.
Coming up next there is a soap opera of the
sports World Olden and we just have another episode that
was on display.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Rights that pretty much as the Days of Our Angel,
you know, something like that.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I don't know. We'll work on the title here, but
we'll get to that right around the corner. He's old
in polonies. I'm Brian No hang with us right here

to everything, honestly, because this guy is over promising things
(12:55):
we never have time for. Yeah, you blob list me. Well,
you know what it's called over promise. You should be
good at it because you've been over promising women for years. Well,
it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we want
you to be a part of it. We're gonna be
talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk life
and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing about
something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue
on our after show called over Promised. Well, if you
(13:17):

maybe we'll go at it even a little harder. It's
gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

but definitely join us. Listen over Promised with Covino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you

(13:42):
I'm Brian No coming to you live from the tirec
dot Com studios. Good news, your guy Rory who's in
the lead now here olding swinging Wow. Yeah, and Deshambo
dropped a stroke.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
So but you know, what's so funny? Br Us drove
the green and he literally had to tell the fans
to shush because apparently I couldn't hear what the chants were,
but I'm sure it was along the lines of the USA.
It was something crazy each way. He had to even say,
sh that's ridiculous, Come on, it is.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I do love the old school Tiger where he's just like,
not my swing, you know. That was this big thing.
You can yell what you want, but not when I'm
swinging my club, you know. Yeah. Okay, So the soap opera,
it's the gift that keeps on giving. It is Caitlyn
Clark and it is Angel Reese. So the latest installment
(14:38):
today was that Angel Reese her Indiana Fever teams playing
the Chicago Sky Yeah, Angel Reese plays over there, and
so Caitlyn was going in for a layup. You had
Angel Reese challenged the shot and she clobbered Caitlin Clark
in the head. The officials viewed it was a flagrant one.
(15:02):
I thought this was just basketball, olden. I didn't think
there was anything dirty malicious. This is a shot blocker
trying to block a shot and instead she got Caitlyn
Clark's head. But you know as well as I do,
that's not gonna be the view of a lot of people.
And they're reading into this and saying, oh, it was intentional,
(15:24):
it was dirty, even something beyond that. With the rivalry
of these two over the years, I don't see it
being anything beyond a shot blocker trying to block a shot.
I thought earlier this month when Kennedy Carter clobbered Caitlyn Clark,
that was dirty. But this today, where Angel Reese is
blocking a shot, I thought it was absolutely nothing.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
It was nothing, and that's the problem. And even Kennedy
Carter's file, Yes, it was on purpose, but it's still
part of basketball. It was still a basketball play. I'm
gonna get in your head. I'm gonna try to intimidate you.
That's all it is. We did it all the time
on the men's side. It's been done on the women's
(16:09):
side prior to Caitlin Clark getting there. They need to
stop handling this young lady with freaking, you know, gloves.
Let her be she's a baller. She's even said it,
it's a basketball play. Angel Reeves swung trying to swipe
and block the shot and accidentally got her in the head.
They have rules in place. Perfect example was, and I
(16:32):
can't remember the game it was, but it was doing
the playoffs and somebody got hitting the head. The referees
went and looked at and they said, oh, it was
a normber play. But the rules state that it's automatic
flagrant one, right, But they didn't call it a flagrant one.
They just called it a record. And we were saying,
if that's not a flagrant, no other foul getting hitting
(16:52):
their heads a flagrant. And so to me, those are
the things everything's being interpreted differently, and so it it's
whack right now because the WNBA should be enjoying this
resurgence or this uplift in fans, but I don't know
if they want these kind of fans of this kind
(17:13):
of publicity because right now it hasn't even been based
on basketball, you know. And so to me, that's what
I'm not liking.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah, And that's something Caitlin Clark said, This is going back.
This is after the Kennedy Carter situation earlier in the month,
and she was talking about this about most of the
WNBA conversations.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
Sometimes it stinks how much you know, the conversation is
outside of basketball and not the product on the floor
and the amazing players that are on the floor and
how good they are.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
She's right about that because we're not breaking down Hey
look at her stat line and you know what I mean. Like,
the focus hasn't been on actual basketball, it's been on
the drama around it. So I get it from a
player's perspective where you would want the play on the
court to be the main topic ideally, but it just isn't.
(18:05):
I would say this for the WNBA, even though that's
not ideally what you want, as long as people are
talking about you, I'd rather have that than no talk
and no ratings and no interest. Right, So, even though
it's not what you primarily want, you would want to
talk to be on the floor on the play, it's
better than not being talked about it at all, I think.
(18:27):
But they might view it differently. And it's got to
be old at this point where some of these things
just get blown up into being something that they're not.
And I thought today was that there's a little bit
of audio that will throw your way. Listen to this
old and so just to get the other side, we're
basically on the same side on this. We didn't think
the foul was anything intentional or anything dirty, but this
(18:48):
was Dave Portnoy. He weighed in. He put out a
video after this file by Angel Reese on Caitlin Clark.
Check this out. Here we go again, Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Look at this.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Not a player on the ball by Angel Rees. Hey, shack,
you know I lay off her. She's just so damn dirty,
like not going.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
For the ball at all. What is this?
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Just an absolute chief shot? Angel Reese, Chicago Sky dirtiest
players in the game, and it's over and over and
over and over.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
What do you think about that, Olden, I don't think
anything about it. I don't know who Dave whatever is
and I don't care because, you know, I'm sure he's
doing stuff for his fan base or trying to get
you know, publicity or whatever. I'm not buying all that
because apparently he's not a fan of basketball or he's
student up the game. When you go up, ninety nine
(19:50):
percent of the time, if you go up to block
a shot, this's gonna be incidental contact. It happens. It
has to happen. You can't avoid it in that situation,
and so to me, he's trying to make up some stuff,
and so I'm not buying it at all. And again
I'm not falling for the okie doke by all these people, okay,
(20:11):
because everybody's got an agenda. I don't have an agenda
one way another. I just wish, you know, again, it
would be about basketball. Even to this point, I don't
need to know every little record that Kitlyn Clark sets
or breaks. Now you're doing the insanity thing because they
(20:31):
were players that were playing way better than him. All
of a sudden, you know, we get bombarded with insanity,
like we haven't seen this before. It's absurd to me.
You know, stop creating stuff the Let basketball be basketball.
Let it be at the end of her career. If
you want to, like start arguing how good she was. Fine,
(20:52):
but come on, this is her rookie year. All of
a sudden, every little thing is a record, so they
was Come on, now stop, I don't need that.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I think that certainly, there's part of this where you
wonder what someone actually thinks. Half the time. If it's
a media member, we know you and I are We've
been around long enough to know what's going to get attention.
And what won't. And I think that there are a
(21:21):
lot of talking heads that do things just for attention
and you don't get their real thoughts. And I don't know,
you're playing the game a little bit, but I want
to know what you truly feel or how you truly feel,
what you truly think about something. We know. Listen you
and I saying, look, it's just a basketball play. It
happens like that's not gonna get people to be like,
(21:41):
whoa did you hear what Olden and Brian had to
say about this whole situation. We know that, but that's
what we truly think, right, Like, I want to know
how you truly feel about something instead of oh, dirtiest
player in the league. This keeps happening over and over.
He knows that it's gonna get a response that might
not be what he truly thinks. I need to know
(22:02):
what you actually.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Think here, well me personally. Come on now, if I
do that, you guys will never have me on air.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Right yeah, oh yeah, okay, so.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yeah, I'm just messing around. But at the end of
the day, okay, here it is so Angel Reese has
embraced the bad guy, okay, or the outlaw and all
that she's wearing the black hat, Caitlin Crux wearing a
white hat. Okay, so we've made it about race, whether
we want to or not. It's become about race. It's
become about gender. This league has always been you know,
(22:37):
for lack of a better word, And I've said this
on the other shows, it was predominantly you know, lesbian
and everything else, and so there was just the homophobia
that was out there, and so now you have all
this stuff going on. So it's just too much for me.
I just want to watch good basketball, whether it's by
men or by women. I've always said this, man, I
(22:59):
think women are more fundamentally sound than men. They're just
not as athletic. And so if it's a good basketball game,
I don't care who's playing it. And right now we're
not at that point at all. Since she stepped into
the league, it was an automatic Oh it's the black
(23:19):
girl versus a white girl. It's the is she lesbian?
Is she strayed?
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Is?
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Oh my god, this is too much for me.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Yeah, I think some of it goes way too far.
Where Look, man, I think some of the criticisms toward
Caitlin Clark, You're just reaching for something, that's all it is.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
That's what people are doing.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
They reaching, Yeah, completely reaching. I'd rather you just came
right out and said, look, either I don't like her,
or I don't think she should be getting as much
attention as she gets. I would actually respect your position
more if you just came right out and said that.
But when you create these other random avenues and you
have to read between the lines and say, Okay, you
(24:03):
clearly just don't like this girl getting as much shine
as she's getting.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
It's similar to Steph Curry, you know, because they're two
type they're similar type of players. You know. That's what
made her name is the fact that we didn't We've
never seen a female athlete, a female basketball player, shoot
from distance like that. I believe Paige Becker's of Yukon
is a better player. She's a way better all around
(24:28):
player than Kaitlyn Clark by far. I'm talking about miles.
But Gino Ariama is not letting her jack up thirty
seven footers. He's not allowing it. So Paige Becker's has
to play within that system. Whereas Kaitlyn Clark at Iowa
could do whatever she wanted to do and got away
with it. And she knocked down shots. It's not like
(24:50):
she was just jacking them up and not making them. Also,
so she was making shots, so she's good at that
and she can pass, so she just had a free reign.
Steph Curry's the same way. He can jack up, you know,
Steve kurb many a times. Oh no, no, no, no, no,
good shot, good shot, you know. And so to me,
that's what we have right now. But then we had
the people knocking Steph kurr Oh he destroyed basketball. Oh,
(25:13):
this guy is way better than Steph kurrk. His handles
are better self, he's a better You took it away
from basketball and made it personal.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah, no, that's true. And so I think some of
these criticisms have gotten way too personal. Where Caitlin was
just criticized this week, she came out and said, hey,
she came out no no, no, she's got a boyfriend.
She came out and made comments old and like she said, hey,
don't use my name to push agendas, Like if you're
(25:43):
talking about racism or misogyny, just don't use my name
to create something or use it. And I get that
from her and there was reaction to that where it's like, oh,
her silence is a luxury. There was a Sun player
that had said that, and it's like, what what are
we doing? At some point Caitlin Clarks wants to play basketball?
(26:04):
Is that so wrong? Really?
Speaker 3 (26:06):
That's all she wants to go.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Out there and hoop. There's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
She's damnaged she do, and she's damnaged she don't. Yeah,
And that's the worst place to be in. She made
the statement, and I've been saying this, and you know,
people are using a fund for their own personal agendas,
no matter what network they are, no matter what shows.
And it's true. So she made that statement, which is
a true statement, but she should not have said that
(26:33):
in their books, in their eyes, right.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
No, it's always going to be something. She must feel like,
I can't do anything right, so I'm just gonna make
it my basketball.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
There's school one more year, one more Yeah, but there's
she can't win that game.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
And I think she's handled this very very well. She's
been professional throughout it, and uh, look, man, I just
I hope at some point the critics don't steal any
of the joy, you know, I just saw it today.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
The one I saw today is Angel Reese is Bill
Lambia and Kate Bird.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Wow, really that's look man like, that's the thing, is man?
I think that's uh. I think that's Chris Purfett's text tone,
you know what I mean. It might be his ring
tone over there as well as a diehard Detroit fan
with that. He had that probably at the very top
(27:28):
of the sound wall right there with Detroit the shout out.
But Caitlin Clark, can you think off the top of
your head holden just time and time and time again
where she's doing something dirty or even just questionably dirty.
I can't think of that. I've watched Angel Reese for
years now. She's not a dirty player. So that's I
(27:48):
think we're creating something that wasn't there if we're talking
about that being a dirty play. She challenged a shot.
It's it's hard to block shots in the professional ranks.
Speaker 7 (27:57):
Man.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Sometimes you get someone's head and don't mean to. If
this tomorrow night, if this is Al Horford trying to
block Kyrie Irving and he gets his head, we're not
gonna be like, oh that was dirty, that was malicious
freaking Al Horford over here, we'd be like it's basketball,
it happens.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Oh no, we're not gonna get that because there's no
agenda within that series. Right now, Caitlyn Clark was a
lightning rid and is a lightning rid. She is that
destraw that's stirring to drink, whatever terminologies you want to use,
you know, she is that person right now. And so
(28:32):
to me, people one of the things that I've learned
about this new generation they know how to jump on
what's hot. Yeah, they definitely do. They don't care about history,
they don't care about what's happened in the past. They
just know if it's hot and it's gonna get people talking,
we're gonna stick to it. And right now they are
on her like flies on doodle.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah, that's right. You know who's hot in the streets
right now, Olden, that would be Martin Weiss, who is
with us? That's right, Martin? What is going on? Buddy?
Speaker 7 (29:06):
Well, we got a battle down here at Pinehurst number
two last round.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Of the US Open.
Speaker 7 (29:11):
Rory McElroy eight under through fourteen, Bryson d Chambo seven
under through thirteen, Patrick Cantley five under through fourteen. De
Shambo was in the lead for most of this round,
Royal McRoy overtaking him by one stroke. In the WNBA
Holden Cover of Your Ears, Kaylyn Clark made history. She
was the first rookie who with fifteen plus points, five
(29:31):
plus rebounds, and five plus assists in five games since
Brianna Stewart in twenty sixteen. Sended for twenty three eight
nine as the Fever beat the Sky ninety one to
eighty three, Phoenix beat Seattle eighty seven to seventy eight,
and Atlanta beat the La Sparks eighty seven to seventy four.
In Euros twenty twenty, England beat Serbia one nil. The
Netherlands defeated Poland two to one. Denmark en Slovenia ended
(29:54):
in a one to one draw. College Baseball World Series,
Florida State beat Virginia S seven to three. They'll play
the loser of North Carolina and Tennessee, which will be
getting started in just a little while here. In baseball,
the Diamondbacks lead to White Sox ten to nothing in
the fifth inning, Dodgers over the Royals three to nothing
in the seventh, Seattle over Texas two to nothing in
(30:15):
the sixth, Pittsburgh pounding Colorado eight to one in the
ninth and the San Francisco Giants beating the La Angels
nine to two in the fifth inning. Earlier today, the
Rays outscored the Braves eight to six, Cardinals beat the
Cubs two to one, Nationals beat the Marlins three to one.
Ronel Blanco for the Houston Astros had a seventh innings
(30:35):
pitch with no hits, ended up getting taken out of
the game. The Jose Altuve had a three run homer
as the Astros beat the Tigers four to one. Orioles
over the Phillies eight to three. Blue Jays held on
to defeat the Guardians seven to six. Dalk Ton var
show with a Grand Slam again at the US Open.
Right now, Roy McElroy eight under through fourteen holes, Bryson
(30:56):
de Shambo seven under through thirteen, Patrick Canlay five through
fourteen holding him.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Bryan back to you guys.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Thank you, Martin, good stuff. Man, we're here on Fox
Sports Radio. How about this old and it was funny, man.
I think that I was watching the game today. You
know it's Caitlyn Clark, Angel Reese. I'm interested how this
goes down. I was watching the game and at halftime
I forget which network. I think it was CBS. I
think the game was on CBS. But they showed the
(31:25):
halftime stats and they had Angel Reese's stat line, and
they had another player from the Sky Harrison listed there.
She scored ten points in the first quarter in the
first half or somebody else, No, it was Kay Mitchell
is from the Fever had ten points in the first half.
Caitlin Clark had nine points in the first half. I'm like,
(31:47):
why the hell would they list Kay Mitchell ten points
put Caitlin Clark. I think the WNBA should just lean
into Caitlyn Clark for as much as it's worth. You know,
they have her on national TV a lot, but I'm
telling you everything interviews, you know, stat lines, graphics, the
(32:07):
camera shots. Just freaking lean into this thing for all
it's worth. Because the fans aren't going anywhere, and the
casual observers, they're not there for Kay Mitchell, they're there
for Caitlyn Clark. Right, lean into this thing a little
bit more.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Yeah, but they already dropped the ball, so they might
as well just keep it going this way. They literally
dropped the ball. Her first two games were against two
of the toughest defensive teams in the league. Yes, and
so to me, that's where it all started. And I
don't think she's beginning to support whether it's by the league,
her teammates. It's just been horrible. And again I'm not
(32:43):
saying that she has to be handled with kid gloves
and everything else. No, but if you have a situation
like this that you've never had before, because again I've
been in this thing since the inaugural season, okay, when
I did color commentary with the Monarchs in Sacramento. There
has not been a player come into the w with
(33:06):
this kind of publicity, not one, not Candace, not Citia Cooper,
not Maya More, not to Rozi, not Brionna, none of them. Yeah,
they should have jumped on it for the for the
league's sake, not for anything else. And I don't care
(33:27):
about the other players. Hey, we just gotta learn how
to get along. But I would have jumped on it
if I was commissioner.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
No, I hear you, man. She she should have been
playing the mystics, you know, she should have been playing
the bottom feeders.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Bottom feeders, letter Jack and her coach is even clowning.
I'm like, come on, stop, you know you knew what
she was when you drafted her number one. Okay, she
shoots from range. Let her draw plays what she's shooting
from range. Shaker, shaker, loose, set some double high screens,
(34:00):
do something.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Speaking of clowning, I had to share this with you,
old and so I ran across this video from a
comedian named Shane Shane Gillis, and he was making a
joke about the w n B. A. You tell me
if you think this is funny or not. Okay, check
this out. I think it's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
He's funny. You had all gotten swept up into.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
The like w NBA hype that's going on right now.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. Man, I love it. W NBA.
You kidding me. I can't get enough. It's high flying action.
Stop stop. The one I saw the other day was
the funniest thing. They go fast break Angel reaes for
(34:47):
the dunk and it was her doing a layup and
oh my god, no, come on, y'all got to stop.
That's not right. And I and I got excited because
I was like, wait a minute, I think Angel could probably.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
And that's what's so funny about it is it's completely
not right and you're like you know, they know how
to push the buttons. Man, Jane does a great job
all right right around the corner. Oh old, And this
is a great story for you. If you are not
a fan of major changes, you might not like what
could be right owner, We'll lay that out for you
(35:21):
and everybody else. Uh listening here, We're coming to you
live from the ti rack dot Com studios. He's olden Polonies.
I'm Brian Know. Hang with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's olden polonies. I'm Brian Know. Here on Fox Sports Radio.
We're coming to you from the tire rack dot Com studios.
And man, terrible timing. We are back and Rory just
dropped a stroke.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Yeah, this is not good.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
We've got we gotta Is this actually true? You've got
a dollar on this?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, yes, on the line here doing that. There's one dollar.
It's a tribute to the Dukes, Duke and Duke. Hey, uh,
what's his name, Mookie?
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Yeah, I know that's what our guy Bo Benson just
said that to me. Our trusted producer is Dodger.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I know that one might be broken.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
Yeah, that's This could be the worst weekend for Dodgers
Baseball in a long time.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
It might be broken break. It's a bad bad Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
The way he immediately just fell to the ground, that's me.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
What else has been going on?
Speaker 5 (36:35):
Yoshinoba Yamamoto is on the fifteen day injured list with
triceps tightness.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
I did like giving up the Grand Slam yesterday. That
was big for an in game bet of mine. Bo.
I don't know if that's softened.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
There you go again.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I'm just saying, fantastic result, right.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
You know that is the hardest thing to bet baseball.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Baseball is very difficult.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
It's the worst. It's absurd. I try to one time.
I'm good.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
See you're smarter than me. You're smarter because you're just like, Okay,
this is just ridiculous. I'm not doing I'm like, you
know what, I'm gonna stay with it. Maybe there's some
something I can pick up.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
The only the only thing I like in baseball is
our friend Jared Smith's, your Fee's and Neurfe's.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Yeah, you can bet old than maybe this is what
made you quit. You can bet on just the first
inning alone, if there will be no runs scored.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
I know they have all these different bets, and none
of them happened when I did that. It's like, I'm good.
I didn't do it like one time, only I did it.
I think like one week I was just like, Okay,
I'm gonna do it again. And then after the week,
I was like, I'm good, this is too much.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
The one thing I will say this though, my brother
told me this. He says what he does now is
he bets in a series. He'll bet the last base
on how it's gone. I say, if they you know,
And it just happened too with the Yankees. You know,
they won the first couple of games and the last
one they lost, you know, and then like the Dodgers,
you know, they don't win a couple of games, and
(38:09):
the last game of the city they lose. So he says,
usually go with the other team, whoever's won like two
out of the three, bet the last one on the
other team. So and that one seems to work. But
I'm done, so I'm not.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
So it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
It doesn't do me any good. That's for whoever else
is betting out there. I'm good. It's like horse racing.
I did it one time, my horse won and that
was it. That was it.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
You walked off us.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
I have a one thousand record.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Beautiful, great winning percentage. Okay, So how about this, So
the Big twelve is exploring selling its naming rights of course, okay,
And it's believed to be that All State is the
front runner, so instead of the Big Twelve Conference, it
would then be known as the All State twelve Conference.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Of course, beautiful, you're cool with this. Get your money,
and ain't that what this is all about? Getting your money? Money?
Speaker 2 (39:06):
But I want you to be selfish here for a second.
I get why the Big twelve would do it, that's obvious.
But you olden polonies. Let's use your Virginia cavaliers over here,
you know, proud member of the ACC. What if the
ACC is no longer the ACC? What if it's the
McDonald's conference or the cheese That doesn't work. That doesn't work.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
The numbers work, okay, you know if it's the Big twelve, yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
A big ten, Big twelve, those work more so than
the ACC because ACC is synonymous with the conference. That's
what it is, the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
So that's not gonna change. It should stay the way
it is.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Okay, So what's your reaction?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
And we wouldn't know what teams are on there. If
it's the McDonald's confidence like, okay, what the hell?
Speaker 2 (39:53):
What if it's the McDonald's Coast conference.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Okay, No, it's gonna be too much to say the
McDonald's have Atlantic Coast conference.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Trust me that the McDonald's acc.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Maybe you're more of a burger king guy, the burger
king a c Now we're talking here, who's gonna get
Chick fil A? The SEC?
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Right, gotta be the again, same thing. SEC cannot change.
It has to remain the SEC.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Now.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
If they want to change the sc all they gotta
do is say NFL minor.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
That's right, finer leagues right there for that's it's exceptional
in college football, man, no doubt. But hey, I get it.
I understand they're trying to get their cash. Totally understand that.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
It's money, money, money money.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
It's gonna be so weird when these names change. It's
gonna be like stadiums, right, the names of stadiums change.
So when you get used to the All State twelve,
it's going to change to the Nabisco twelves or whatever.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
You know. I still call it Staples, right, A lot.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Of people still do it up next Is this a
big deal, a little deal or no deal? Oh, happy
Sunday to you. We got a lot going on, including
Olden Polony's possibly a dollar richer. I don't want to
jinx anything, but he's looking a little bit better. I
need a little bit better. We're broadcasting live from the
(41:19):
tire rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com will
help get you there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tierrack dot com the way tire buying should be So
on fifteen drama at the US Open here old and Deshambo.
He's got a putt for par It lips out. It
(41:41):
lips out. It's a bogey. Rory has a one stroke
lead with three holes to go.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yep, bad putt all the way around. I could tell too,
he pulled that putter back too far.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Yeah, and our trusted producer Bo Benson, he basically said
something like if that were him, the club would be
wrapped around a tree right now. You know, it's so
frustrating with those steaks as high as they are.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
You know, I remember the credit.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
I'll give the Shambo credit where we talked about it
when he hit the putt that was a birdie. He's
fist pumping like yeah, showing a lot of emotion, but
when that putt lipped out, he was cool. Man. I
give him credit for that.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Well, that's why I say I don't think he can
win it because a lot of times he gets too emotional.
It's one thing to have emotion, it's another to be emotional.
And that was one of his biggest problems when he
first started, is that he couldn't control his emotions.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
Yeah, that's true. He did, at least on that hole.
So we'll see how he responds here with the final
three holes. Rory, Man, you can explain what this feels like.
I know he played a different sport, but think about
Rory ten years since he's won a major, and he's
been close at times, He's not been anywhere near at
(42:58):
other times. But it is right there. He's got a
one stroke lead and there are three holes to go
just between him and D'shambo. But what do you think
he's feeling right now, especially as an ex athlete playing
at the highest level. What do you think Rory McElroy
is feeling with it being so close he can just
reach out and grab a major trophy right here.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
I promise you he's not feeling anything nothing. He's been
there before. I just got to play my game, is
what he's saying himself. Just you know, next hole, that's it,
and see whatever happens happens. He can't see the scoreboard
right now, so it doesn't matter to him. You know,
he might not even know he's in the lead. So
I just got to play my best golf these next
three holes. That's it.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Yeah, No, that's I think that's the only way you
can be successful, because if you make it bigger than that,
are you just going to psych.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
Your I know one thing. These guys spend a lot
of time in a muckmuck area.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
Yeah sure, yeah. I'm trying to find some audio for
you because I love this. This was so Wilson when
he was with the Seattle Seahawks, right they had won
the NFC Championship game and he was getting some advice
from Terry Bradshaw. Terry Bradshaw was there, he was presenting
them with the NFC Championship trophy. And I can't find
(44:16):
the audio for the life of me, but I'll just
explain it to you. He's like, Hey, what do we
need to do to win it? And he was like,
just treat it like every any other game. That's what
Bradshaw said. He was like, if you build this thing up,
it's so important, you're gonna screw it up. Did Rory
screw it up? What happened.
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Himself? A two footer?
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Oh no, it lips out? Was that for par bogey?
Oh my goodness, Well he's gonna make this one. He's
not gonna do we hope, we don't know anymore?
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Man, he's got.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
He dropped he bogey back to back holes Olden.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
I know I'm watching it. I'm u Rory. See he
just made me out a liar. It's not a precious
mountain on him.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
It's like, oh goodness, great, whaty palms sweating?
Speaker 3 (45:10):
The funny thing about it? Like I said, he doesn't
realize that they Shambeau just bogie?
Speaker 2 (45:17):
Did he really? Again?
Speaker 3 (45:18):
No? I mean from the on the previous hole, you know,
behind him. So it's like we're tied right now. So hey,
he still got Come on it, Come on, Roy, you
can do it, man.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
And that was a pretty good t shot for the
shambo on sixteen man.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
That one traveled. That's three fifty That one traveled.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
By the way, do you like the what are the
what's the tiebreaker for the US Open? Did they? Is
that the tournament where they play a full eighteen Oh?
Speaker 3 (45:48):
I hope not. I hope no. I can't watch eighteen
more holes of this. It's too nerve wracking.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
I gotta check this out real fat, I should know this.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
Oh that's the same one. Oh yeah, that's the other one. Okay,
they both did the same thing, but Royds was a
lot shorter.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
Because when Tiger, when Tiger went toe to toe, rock
O mediate, right, wasn't that a full eighteen holes as
the tiebreaker? I think that's the way it goes for
the US I don't don't remember.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
I just remember rock Oh was not happy.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
Yeah, yeah, no, not whatsoever. But man, it's.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
That's the beauty of the US Open. Yeah, that is
the beauty of it. It's like anything can happen, especially
at Pinehurst. Come on, now, this golf course is insane.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Yeah, okay, so here we go for the US Open.
We're talking a full eighteen hole playoff round.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
Baby, they'll be doing that tomorrow yep.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Next day. You don't want to sign up for eighteen
holes with.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Oh, i'll watch it tomorrow. I'm not gonna watch it
eighteen holes today. I'll watching this thing since this morning.
And I'm not gonna do my whole Father's Day on golf.
Somebody better win it.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
Happy Father's Day.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
Oh, thank you, thank you. Are you a dad?
Speaker 2 (47:13):
No, not yet.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
You don't know what you're missing.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, well maybe at some point in my life.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
You know, greatest, greatest job in the world. Yeah, the
never ending.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Job unless you end up with bad kids. You know
that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
Right now, Well, there's no such thing as bad kids.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
Bad Karen's okay, I hear you. Let me throw this
at you. Because Aaron Rodgers earlier this week, Olden, he
was not at Jets training camp, I should say mini camp. Okay,
he was gone, as the head coach, Robert Sala explained,
this was an unexcused absence. I don't know why I
(47:54):
put it out there like that, kind of clumsy. But
the question is, do you think this is a big deal,
a little deal, or no deal whatsoever? What do you
stand on Rogers missing Jets mini camp and everything that
transpired after.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
That Along the lines of the Caitlin Clark thing. We
were talking about how you want me to just you know,
be truthful and honest. It's a big deal, okay, And
I'll tell you why it's a big deal. Yeah, you
just spent a whole year with an achilles tiar you
didn't play. We're trying to get back into this thing.
(48:32):
We're in the number one media market and you're just
gonna like up and not show up. And now this
whole thing it's like, well it was excused at first.
It wasn't excused. It's too much going on. And and
Rogers he may not believe it, but he still has
some things he needs to write, you know. And so
(48:54):
to me, it's a big deal because mini camp, you
got to get used to your teammates. You gotta gotta
get things going right now. Because it's not like basketball
with eighty games, where you can figure it out of
you know, twenty thirty games into the season. Football is
(49:14):
it's the great equalizer because it's like, hey, it's seventeen games,
seventeen weeks. Every game is monumental, Every last one is monumental.
That's why it's what it is, because each one of
those games can cost you a playoff spot. And so
to me, it is a big deal. Mini camp for
(49:36):
Anne Rodgers is a big deal. You need to show up.
You have to be a leader. And if it was
an excuse, I'm finding him. See a guy like me.
I'm not taking this crap from Nuttes people. Maybe that's
why they have No one's hired me because I'm finding you.
I'm suspending you. I don't give a damn I don't
do the Prima Donna stuff. Yeah, and you haven't done
(49:58):
a damn thing for the New York Jets nothing. Everything
you've done was for Green Bay. You haven't done a
thing for us, So you have no cashe whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
I like to take. Man, I'm hiring you on Monday.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
You know, please, Hi, everybody's straight.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Listen. This first thing's first. This is Sauce Gardner, cornerback
for the Jets, and he put out there on social
media he wrote, are y'all really making a big deal
because a fifteen plus year Hall of Fame quarterback missed
two days of practice after being with the team all
throughout Phase one, two and three of OTA's So that's
(50:39):
his take. That's a teammate of Aaron Rodgers. That matters.
I think a lot of this is how does the
team feel about this? And I'm more with you. I'm
not gonna go as far as to say this is
a big deal, but this is at least at least
a little deal. To say this is no deal whatsoever,
I don't think is true because this is the only
(51:01):
quarterback in the NFL to miss Mini camp. Aaron Rodgers
is the only guy. And as you mentioned, Olden, you
have Aaron Rodgers who pretty much missed all of last
season except for four plays with that achilles injury. And
he's got this planned vacation the middle of mini camp.
What are we doing? And this is Aaron Rodgers. He's
(51:21):
got a long, illustrious history of being high maintenance and
this is just another chapter in that book. And this
is New York.
Speaker 3 (51:30):
That's my point.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
It's gonna be a bigger deal because of just that
media market alone. And then you have Robert Salas screw
it up by saying this was unexcused, and it just
grows and grows. So I don't think this is gonna
matter three months from now. That's why I say it's
a little deal, but this is at least something here,
and now.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
It's a big deal. Saws Gardner, please You're just trying
to get some motases, that's all. He really doesn't mean it,
but I'm gonna say it because it's it's a good
SoundBite for Aaron, because I know Aaron's gonna hear it.
Oh sas got my back? All right, I got you.
I'll look over there to your side a lot more.
Come on, now, it's a big deal. I don't care
(52:12):
about the fifteen years. Like I said, what have you
done for me lately?
Speaker 2 (52:17):
What have you done for the Jets at all? To
your back late?
Speaker 3 (52:20):
And it's like you haven't done anything. We don't even
we don't even know if you still the same Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
Well, that's true. I mean he's not getting any younger.
I still think he's got game, but we saw four
plays worth last season. This is the part I really
dislike Olden is Aaron Rodgers. A quote from January has
been brought up because he missed mini camp this week.
So this was the quote from Rogers in January. If
(52:48):
you want to be a winning organization and put yourself
in position to win championships and be competitive, everything that
you do matters, and the BS that has nothing to
do with winning needs to get out of the building.
And then he's missing Mini caamp to go on a
pre planned vacation or some trip or we have no
details of what was going on. That just doesn't add up.
(53:12):
That's in January talking a good game and then in
June not walking the walk exactly.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
And that's why I get frustrated with a lot of
these guys. Man, there's so many prima donnas. It's like, dude,
stop it. You cannot make that statement. That was a
huge statement. Yes, and apparently he wasn't referring to himself.
He was talking about everybody else.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Is right. Absolutely, that's all it was.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
I'm putting this out there for the rest of you
guys because I'm Aaron Rodgers. Yep, I run on a
different rule.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
And then he went and did something that went against
all those words.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
So it's a good thing. I'm not a Jets fan.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Yeah, who is your NFL team?
Speaker 3 (53:57):
By the way, the Giants, unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Man, they got they picked up Brian Burns, right little
Cavon Thibodeau. Brian Burns won two combination. You still don't
have a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
That's oh, we still don't have a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
Drawback right there, But Molik neighbors. Huh you fired up?
How fired up are you for those hideous.
Speaker 3 (54:16):
I'm I'm rooting for the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Old then they have those hideous throwbacks in week one?
What are you doing? Have you seen those?
Speaker 3 (54:30):
I'm not in control any of that stuff. I just
want them to perform.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
Yeah, well, man, it's gonna be a long year. Those
the pants look like khakis. Have you seen those uniforms?
Speaker 3 (54:41):
I have not. In the minute you say khakis, I
don't want to.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
They literally look like khaki pants.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
And the rest of the uniforms are just hideous.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
There toes down. I'm not switching. I could have said
a whole bunch of other teams you're in.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
This was a these are how bad the uniforms are? Olden,
this is Myleik neighbor, Neighbors, your stud wide receiver top
ten draft pick. Uh huh, And he was asked the
question about these hideous uniforms. Check this out.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
It's gonna be hard to swag it out.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
It's gonna be hard to swag it out. That's a bad.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
Now, that's tough in this day and age, when you
can wear anything, that's tough.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
I'm gonna try but there's that a whole lot I
can do with that, all right. Coming up next, our guy,
Adam Kaplan. Oh yes, yes, deep NFL dive. Right around
the corner. He's holding polonies. I'm Brian know. We're live
from the Tirack dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.
It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Olden polonies. I'm Brian know.
(55:51):
Ah man, you're Pantera fan at all? They're old and.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
No, I'm not give me Metallica all day, every day.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
I'll take that. I'm all right with that. Hey, we
welcome in our guy, Adam Kaplan. I feel like some
metal something aggressive. It kind of goes hand in hand
with the NFL as me at least. But Adam FSR
NFL insider joining us here. Any love at all? I
know you're a Hendrix guy, Yes, Adam Kaplan, any love
for Pantera? What do you think?
Speaker 8 (56:21):
I'm a wasn't a hairband guy, if that's what you
want to call him? I mean, yeah, certainly, wasn't my
deal as Olden was talking about. Yeah, there's just I
would side with him. Not my favorite, I mean I
was I would call a C d C even close
to hairband. But as far as hard rock, A C
d C is what I do when I when I
need to get psyched up whatever whatever athletic activity is.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
That that's a great It's a great call by you, Kap.
I love a c DC for sure. By the way,
before we dive into the NFL, the US Open is
winding down at least today. We don't know if there's
going to be a playoff full round tomorrow. But got
Rory to Shamba. What do you think of this drama?
(57:04):
And do you have a favorite golfer? I know you're
about the majors here. Yeah, where do you weigh in
on that?
Speaker 3 (57:08):
Camp? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (57:09):
I mean I was like the up like someone who
you don't seek getting the job done and be The scores,
by the way, are not great, I mean comparatively, like
you know, this is such a big event and playing
at Pinehurst, by the way, which as a kid I
was at in the eighties, actually played there. One was
actually a little bit of a golfer back in the day,
(57:29):
but no one in particular, No in particular. But it's
cool though that it's as tight as it is.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Yeah, oh absolutely. We were just comparing notes cap about
Aaron Rodgers missing Jets Mini camp this week. What do
you think about this? Is this a big deal, little
deal or no deal in your book?
Speaker 8 (57:49):
Well, here's the thing. Let's just take it on the surface.
They've known that he was going to miss.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
For a while.
Speaker 8 (57:57):
What Robert Sala, the head coach, should have said, So
this is and I was there the day that in
bucks camp three years ago when Brady was away. It
was two or three years ago when he was away.
I guess it would be three years ago now all
this like, he just was. He was there one day
and the next day he was not. And they didn't
really announce anything. They just said, hey, you know he
(58:17):
had this scheduled off and he's not going to be here.
That way you kill all the speculation. I just that
was the mistake that Robert Slam made. He just to
have said, Aaron's not going to be here, just so
you know, this is not excuse absence.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
But he did tell us that he was going to
be away. Yeah, and that's it.
Speaker 8 (58:32):
But because they'd never talked about it, and the media
didn't know about it, they asked where Rogers is and
then Sawah had to talk about it. It just was
a left everybody with a bad taste. But I could
tell you behind the scenes, right after the trade he
indoctrinated himself into the organization. Great behind the scenes, great
to his teammates.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
I know this. I know what just happened is not
a good look.
Speaker 8 (58:54):
And if your leader, if you're a quarterback who by
the way, got hurt in Week one and didn't return
last season, if he's not there, you could question it.
It's fine. But I know behind the scenes, are they
believe in his leadership. That's he's kind of in a
way transform their building in terms of this is how
we do things at least on the field and behind
the scenes.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
But I think it's just not right.
Speaker 8 (59:16):
But I don't to answer your question, Brian, I don't
think it's a big deal because I know the way
that they feel about and behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Okay, Adam, I want to talk about the Lawrence contract
and Trevor Lawrence of course, and what do you make
of it and also what does that how does that
bode for a guy like to a Tagaba.
Speaker 8 (59:41):
Fair question. So here's the thing with Trevor Lawrence. We
could debate how well he's played last year, very up
and down, beat up physically, ankle injury, shoulder injury, and
he didn't have a good season. So typically you know,
if your if you're your star quarterback, or your starting quarterback,
or your who you believe is their franchise quot back.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Has it off year, you may want to wait another
year to extend his contract.
Speaker 8 (01:00:03):
But the way I understand it is they thought getting
in early because at fifty five million a season, which
is what Joe Burrow got, getting in a little bit
early because the next deal is if Dak Prescott gets
his deal done by the start of the season, it'll
be more than fifty five million. The next deals will
be between fifty and sixty million. They're just getting in early.
That's the way they look at it now, Tua Olden,
(01:00:24):
when we transfer over there, there's just a difference of
opinion from the It's not that the Dolphins don't want
to extend it with his injury history. They kind of
know that they've got a little bit of leverage here.
They don't have to do anything. They have franchise tags
available to them for the future. I'd be fairly surprised
if this got done, but I do feel he is
(01:00:46):
their guy. I don't know what they want to do
fifty five million right now. But I'll say this though,
the urgency to get anything done with there's nothing going
on now. Every team was done by last Thursday of
with their off season program. Agency usually happens right when
that players have to report in late July for training camp.
Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
When you look at when you view Trevor Lawrence a
few years into his NFL career, yes, how would you
evaluate him? Just himself? And then also looking to the
supporting cast this season where they pick up Gabe Davis
from the Bills to go along with Christian Kirk. They
draft Brian Thomas Junior out of LSU. They've got Evan Ingram.
(01:01:26):
It's a decent supporting cast. It's nothing stars studded. So
how do you view the supporting cast and then also
view Trevor Lawrence himself?
Speaker 8 (01:01:33):
Yeah, Brian, it's fine. I mean, Gabe Davis comes over
from Buffalo. I know he's been an inconsistent player. It's
not always easy to play with Josh Allen. He gets
reunited with Chad Hall, his former receivers coach with a Bill,
so that there was that natural connection. He's from the area.
He went to Central Florida. Brian Thomas, the first round pick, Brian, Brian, that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
Was Rory McElroy missing a punt. I think, did someone
have a bet on it? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:02:00):
I thought I pressed the off button.
Speaker 8 (01:02:02):
Oh yeah, yeah, so that's okay. Hey, that's okay. At
least we know what it was. Yeah, I should probably
put it on. And then Kristian Kirks. You know, by
the way, Brian, don't forget Christian Kirk at groin surgery
in season, who was more or less last seasons. There
was their their top receiver coming into the deal. And
with Evan Ingram, it's a it's a good group. It's
actually not bad at all. He was really early in
(01:02:26):
the season. Trevor Lawrence had a couple of injuries. In fact,
there were a couple of times he should clearly should
not have played. He played for injury. I don't want
any excuses for the guy, but he was beata physically. Now,
one thing I've said on FSR over the years when
people are talking about Jeneral that Trevor Lawrence is a
generational quarterback. What happens is when you see a guy
dominate a college football like he did, and he did
(01:02:46):
at Clemson, He's phenomenal. You got to put it, put
it in proper context. It's a level competition. Sure he dominated,
but there was nothing really special.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
About his game.
Speaker 8 (01:02:56):
He was really overrated, to be honest with the overhyped
he's he's if we had to rank them, Okay, here's
what I would do. This is on your question. I'd
put him somewhere between ten and fourteen if we were
if we were grading, we're ranking the thirty two projected
starting quarterbacks. I put him somewhere right now as I
look at probably between ten and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (01:03:18):
Not that he's a nice player. He's above average, clearly
the good. He's not special in any way.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Yeah, okay, well I have I'm sorry, but I thought
I pressed a button. He missed a one footer.
Speaker 8 (01:03:30):
Are you you know it's so funny for those of
play golf, you know, when you get to tap in,
everyone get you don't even in fact, if you're if
it's it's just a bunch of friends.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
You didn't even put it out because they just give
it to you. Did he really miss it?
Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
One thing?
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
He bogeied eighteen. He dropped his stroke. It was literally shambo.
It's not over to Shama's got a chance.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
It was literally inside the rubber.
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Yeah, that's insane. Wow, that's all I have fresh.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Okay, let's get back. I have this question I was
watching now. It might be a two parter based on
high phrase it. Have you ever seen anything with what's
going on in regards to the Chiefs and this off
the field that's going on with these guys. Yes, especially
with bugs just getting popped again.
Speaker 8 (01:04:16):
Yeah, and he's had a lot of I'd be shocked
if he's on the team much longer.
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
He's had all By the.
Speaker 8 (01:04:20):
Way, he had off the field stuff with Detroit, they
got rid of him. He's been a journeyman. They got
the stuff with with Rachie Rice, who's almost certain to
get suspended minimum four games, probably should it should be at
least six, to be honest with you, for violent the
personal conduct policy and other guys who've got in trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Yeah, it's uh for a Super Bowl champion. You They
have not had a lot of off the field.
Speaker 8 (01:04:44):
Issues since any Reid and since any Reid really came
in there in twenty thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
But yeah, it is. It's kind of strange.
Speaker 8 (01:04:50):
And by the way, they were at the White House
this past week, with the President, which the Super Bowl
winner does every year. I look, I don't think this
is going to affect him bit really for the season.
They'll they'll get Rice back, and they did address their
receiver position in free agency with Hollywood Brown and is
if you're worthy in the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
But it's not good now. It's something to keep an
eye on, but.
Speaker 8 (01:05:10):
In the end, it's not really gonna affect him in
terms of when in terms of getting back to Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
So can affect him? Last one for me, Cap because
you mentioned Dak and the potential contract extension. Is that
your expectation that they for sure extend in this offseason
or do they go a different route potentially? Not for sure, No,
Ceee lamb is.
Speaker 8 (01:05:31):
I may be a fairly big surprise to me now
that Justin Jefferson has got his deal.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
They've got everything they need.
Speaker 8 (01:05:37):
Justin Jefferson's the highest paid receiver in NFL history by
a wide margin, at thirty five million a year. In fact,
don't forget Micah Parsons now see Nick Bosa got over
thirty four million. It's crazy to see a receiver get
more than an edge rusher. But that's where we all
that's where it's actually kind of cool. So I'm look,
(01:05:58):
Dak is going to get my number from day one
was fifty seven to sixty million. He's got an agent
in Todd Franz who does major deals, and I don't
want to say it's going to be easy to get
Ceede Lambs done, but they know what exactly what it's
got to look like, and Ceedee Lamb's got a good
argument to get close to, if not where Jefferson is is.
Because his numbers are phenomenal. That's not been the problem overall.
(01:06:21):
They've choked a little bit, but it's not his fault.
He's been fantastic since that twenty twenty draft.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Yeah well, hey, Cap, great stuff has always mat helpe
you finish the Sunday in grand fashion. We always enjoy
hearing from you, man. Thank you. There he is Adam
Kaplan fsr NFL Insider Inside the Birds podcast is where
you can find his work, and yeah, let's hear from
Martin Weiss as Olden was overcoming the moment with Rory McElroy.
(01:06:51):
Oh my god, that was a tapping.
Speaker 7 (01:06:53):
Yeah, Olden, you want to take over this golf up
DA because you've been handling it pretty well so far.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Oh my god, I'm shuck Roy McElroy in the clubhouse.
Speaker 7 (01:07:04):
Now five under, should have shot a sixty nine to
a bryceon Deshambo still out there on seventeen, now six under.
So now we're just waiting to see how Bryson finishes this,
if he will be the eventual US Open winner. He's
in a sand trap right now trying to figure it out,
so hopefully we'll get to a conclusion of that pretty quickly. Now,
no score, I'm sorry, Birmingham eight, San Antonio.
Speaker 3 (01:07:25):
Nothing right now.
Speaker 7 (01:07:26):
As approaches halftime in the UFL Championship game to Birmingham
Stallions with an eight point lead there, baseball still going on.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have a twelve to two lead over
the Chicago White Sox. Also a twelve to two lead
for the San Francisco Giants over the La Angels, both
of those in the eighth inning College World Series. Florida
State beat Virginia seven to three. Florida State will play
(01:07:48):
the loser of Tennessee and North Carolina, which she get
started in just a bit. As Olden, with baited breath
watches de Shamba get out of the trap, you should
see him right now, Brian.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
He's mouth is wide open. He believe it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
It was a great shot.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
That was a great shot.
Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
Bryceon Cheville still six on there right now through seventeen
we'll see as old and can hold his surprise. So
what happens in this matchup WNBA. Earlier today, the Fever
beat the Sky ninety one to eighty three, Phoenix beat
Seattle eighty seven to seventy eight, and Atlanta Dream beat
the La Sparks eighty seven to seventy four in Major
League Baseball. Earlier today, these were also already done. The
(01:08:29):
Rays beat the Braves eight to six, Cardinals beat the
Cubs two to one. Nationals beat the Marlins three to one.
Ronel Blanco for the Astros had sevens inning pitched with
no hits, ended up getting taken out anyway for to
one win for the Houston over the Tigers. Orioles beat
the Phillies eight to three, four home runs for Baltimore
in that game. Blue Jays held on to defeat the
(01:08:50):
Guardians a seven to six dal Tom barshow had a
grand slam. Padres lose to the Mets eleven to six.
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
See here.
Speaker 7 (01:08:58):
Minnesota beat Oakland six to two. Pirates beat the Rockies
eight to two. Dodgers beat the Royals three to nothing.
Mookie Bets left in the seventh inning after a ninety
eight mile an hour pitch hit him in the hand.
Mariners beat the Rangers five to nothing. Euro twenty twenty four,
the Netherlands defeated Poland two to one. Denmark and Slovenia
ended in a one to one draw, and England beat
(01:09:19):
Servia one nil. Now for your latest golf update, olden Polonies,
you're up all right back to you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Thank you Sam with the shot of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
Oh man, that was beautiful, just out of the bunker
and we're what maybe within five feet for uh yeah,
maybe a little bit. And uh if he makes that putt,
he wins. So if not, we get a playoff tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:09:46):
Now not.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Put your one dollar bet to the side here because
I know you're with Rory. But would you rather see
the Shambo win it here? Or would you rather see
eighteen holes of playoffs golf tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
I want eighteen holes tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Yeah, miss it the Shambo.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
And he's telling the fans again, be quiet, this is golf.
I keep telling y'all. Waste management that's where you could
yell and scream and run around the US opened. There's decorum.
You have to it hereby.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
How did Rory miss that putt?
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
I don't know, man, That's why I screamed, my goodness,
because it was a four gun conclusion in my mind.
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
Think about what he's feeling right now, where he had
what maybe a two foot putt.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
He better be thinking, I'm cost old than a dollar, right, he.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
Had a two foot putt to save.
Speaker 3 (01:10:42):
Part shoot, that's what he needs to be thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
And he's watching this on a TV screen hoping the
Shambo misses.
Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
This one's gonna lip out. I can tell it's gonna
lip out. Oh my god, it's gonna lip out, because
the way he was looking at it, he's over he's
overthinking it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
I hope you're right, but it's I don't want to
ruin it.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Oh no, he won.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
It's over the Shambo.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Show and well he played well.
Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
T shot was terrible. I give him credit for Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
It was left, my goodness, and they were sitting under
the tree.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
That's right. It hit a spectator, so I don't know
where it would have ended up if it didn't hit
the guy right there. But like you said, See, those
aren't real fans.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
I would have kicked that sucker back to the fair.
They're not fans.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
That second shot for the Shambo, he's crouching under the
tree and just kind of wedged it out of there.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
And you can't take a full swing in that moment.
He had to do a like a up to his
knee and then just punch it out. Yeah, and then
that's how it ended in the sandshot. But that was
a great sandshot. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
That that shot from the bunker was wowful.
Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
Okay, Well, he the professor, that boy. See the one
thing I like about him because he's got me doing
I did my clubs the same way. You know, I
cut him all. They all the same length, no matter what. Okay,
and so it's like I've been watching him for a while.
He's really he's scientific about this and everything he does
(01:12:19):
in his swing and his putting. So that's that's pretty cool.
So congratulations today, Shambo. That's I lost a dollar.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
And I do like it. I told you before. After
that shot from the sandtrap, very NFL like.
Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
Where he's like.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Whatever, I love that about the gun.
Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
I'm out a dollar right now, Brian.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
I know it's hey, my guy, Pavone came through for me.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
I had there you go again.
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Right, at least three birdies today and.
Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
You're talking about that was the bet.
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
That was the bet over two and a half birdies.
So I won that one, and then I had Pavone
under seventy three and a half for the round and
he got very easily easily. Shout out to Pavone. Wow
from France. You know that's where it's at old and
I'm telling you the round bets.
Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
Well, I'm good. I don't even know what it is.
You don't have to sit down and explain all of
that to me.
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
Well, you know, it's just like so par at the
US Open is seventy and so they'll just have a line.
It's basically like a point spread. So for Pavone it
was seventy three and a half and you either go
over or under. And I'm like, he'd have to be
four over par today. I'm taking the under. He's played
(01:13:35):
great and he was under.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Okay, I'm with you on that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
Yeah, Wow, that's how you rally coming in.
Speaker 3 (01:13:44):
I did not think Dave Chambeau was gonna win it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Yeah, he played great, man, he really did. He really did,
so shout out to him.
Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
Impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
I do like man with somewhat. But going back to Rory,
think about this old and he was ten years no majors.
He's right there. It's a two foot putt to save
par and probably force a playoffs tomorrow. And he watched it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
Man, you know what's crazy about that? And I think
about this for a minute. Dave Shambeau had already driven
into the munk.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
Right before he was in a bad spot.
Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
If he oh my goodness. Anyway, I do.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Think as they're showing the Shambo, I think that he's
he's excited about winning. But I can tell he's looking
at Pavon and he was like, good job winning that
bet for Brian, though, I'm pretty.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
Sure day Shambo got mess around and signed a wrong score.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
All right, coming up next, I've got a really good
idea of a way you could earn your dollar back,
Olden and potentially much more. Oh right, okay, I'm gonna
throw this is your way right around the corner. He's
old in polonies. I'm Brian know. We're live from the
tire Rack dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:15:08):
It is Fox Sports Radio he's Olden Polonies. I'm Brian.
Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
So you're a jazz guy, Is that right, Olden? Is
that your main genre of choice?
Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
No, I'm an angela Beaufield fan who passed away a
couple of days ago. Oh man, I'm one of most
popular songs, angel of the Night and Helika del a
note Shape. She got me through college.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Man, so I want to know, Olden, what would you
list as your top three musical genres? What do you
like the most?
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Oh Man, Oldies. It's kind of weird because I don't
have so much genre that I just have. I would
rather name my top three groups. Okay, people I like
so it's Temptations For Tops, I always put them together,
the group America, uh huh okay, and anything by Seal,
(01:16:07):
Anything by Seal.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
By the way, one of the guys from the four Tops,
he was in the news. Did you see that.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
I saw that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
They didn't think it was him.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
Yes, they put him in a straight jacket. That's insane.
For lack of a better word, that's wow. It's like,
come on, the man says, I'm It sounds like he says,
you know, I'm from out of space.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Yeah, there, let's get out of here. You're not from
the four tops. Stop it. We're restraining you right now.
We've got some breaking news. Let's do this.
Speaker 7 (01:16:44):
Mookie Bets left today's game of three nothing win over
the Royals for the Dodgers. Mookie Bets left the game
in the seventh inning when a ninety eight min hour
fastball hit him in his left hand. Manager Dave Roberts
after the game, saying that it is indeed a fracture.
He has no timetable in terms of return, but expect
Lookie Betts to be out for quite some time dealing
(01:17:05):
with that fractured hand.
Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
It's left hand, by the way, I told you, yeah, man, Yeah,
when it's just a sprain, you get right back up.
That boy could not. He was like, oh no, my
hand's broken. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
I know. You could tell he was in a lot
of pain. You know. Our trusted producer Bo Benson follows
the Dodgers very very closely. Hey, Bo, what's the backup
plan with Mookie Betts, the shortstop being out? What are
we looking at here?
Speaker 5 (01:17:34):
Lots and lots of prayer. Yeah, yeah, they don't have
an actual plan. This is what I've been harping on
all years. Miguel Rojas is, you know, damn near forty.
He can't play every day, but he's gonna have to.
The Dodgers have not meaningfully addressed the shortstop position after
Corey Seeger left and it has now come back to
bite them in the behind.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
So yeah, is there a line on that one too? Now,
Brian's that betting line?
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
Who's who's the next shortstop? That wouldn't be shocked. But yeah,
when Mookie's playing shortstop to begin with, and he did
an admirable job, but that's not his position, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:18:11):
In the same press press conference, Dave Roberts also said
that Yoshinobu Yamamoto has a strained rotator cuff, which might
be worse news than Mokie Bets having a fractured hand.
So wow, yeah, not a good twenty four hours out here.
Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
No, not at all.
Speaker 3 (01:18:24):
Good thing. I'm not a Dodger fan.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
Yeah, who is your baseball team?
Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
The New York Yankees? Twenty seven of them things?
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
All right, we got the Yankees coming up.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
Tonight, twenty seven of them.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
You know what's funny? Shout out to my friend Duke
in Albany, New York. He owns Duke's barber shop, and
so years ago you would love this as a Yankees fan.
Old and I went over there to get a haircut,
and I was like, hey, Duke, what's the Wi Fi password?
And he goes, it's the number one twenty seven times.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
That I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:01):
That was the Wi Fi password over there, So I
love it. So I got a way for you potentially
to make your dollar back. After Rory left you, you know,
you know, left you high and dry over there. That
was unfortunate when he missed the putt. So he doesn't
win the US Open, you lose a dollar. But I've
got away potentially. Now hear me out, Olden, You've got
(01:19:23):
the finals, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Final. They're
mirroring each other here. Okay, it's like the Spider Man meme.
They're pointing at each other because you have what Boston.
They get out to a three to zero start, then
in game four, what happens they get smashed.
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
I got a whole concept about that. Okay, we might
have to do on the other side.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
We can't. We could get into that, but think about it.
Keep keep your focus on the money here, Holden, focus
on the pocketbook right here. The Stanley Cup Final, what
happens Florida Panthers. They come out screaming hot, right, They're
up three to nothing, gorching, and then what happens Game four?
They get obliterated eight to one. That is, that's bigger
(01:20:06):
than a thirty eight point beat down in basketball. So
what happened tomorrow night? If Boston wins, and especially if
they win convincingly, Panthers absolutely win games.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
I'll tell you. On the other side, we need to
talk about that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Okay, it's just the ebbs and flows, right, they've been
mirroring each other. Is it gonna be different if Boston
wins Game five? What Edmonton's gonna win Game five? I
don't think so. It's gonna be flooreda all day. You'll
see if somehow the MAVs win, then all this is
(01:20:43):
for not Game five. We'll talk about that. And also,
was this a thoughtful answer or is the focus in
the wrong spot that as well? Oh, we've got a
way for you to make cash. And then we also
have a question to throw your way about a star player.
(01:21:07):
We are broadcasting live from the tier rack dot com studios.
Tier rack dot Com will help get you there an
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack dot com the
way tire buying should be so first cash, Right, we
were talking about the NBA Finals Stanley Cup Final mirroring
(01:21:30):
each other three to zero series leads and then beat
down City in game four. What's your thought process on
this whole thing? Old?
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
Okay, here it is. You have to go back many
many years ago. Gary Bettman, commission of the NHL, used
to beat David Stearns understudy. Okay, so what everything he
learned in the NBA he took over to the NHL.
They both mirror each other. They start relatively like two
(01:22:04):
weeks apart, so our seasons just go in the same line.
And everything that happens within the NBA, you're gonna see
some semblance of it within the NHL. And that's exactly
what happened with these finals. It's like three to oh,
three oh, and then all of a sudden, we have
a blowout over here, a blowout over there. That's insane.
(01:22:25):
That's that's more than conspiracy, that's a fact.
Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Okay, So you think this goes beyond just the normal
flow of a series. You think there's something in the
water they control.
Speaker 3 (01:22:37):
Listen, this thing is really control. The same files they
called against the Mavericks they let go in game four.
You know, this thing can extend all the way to
seven games. They really wanted to write.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
I didn't anticipate you going conspiracy theory on me.
Speaker 3 (01:22:55):
It's not a conspiracy. It's only a cop It hasn't
been confirmed. That's why it's a conspiracy. It hasn't been confirmed.
But I'm telling you these are some of the things
that happen because it's just so easy to control. You
can't control made or misshots, but you can't control fouls. Yeah,
(01:23:18):
and that's one of the things that was killing the Mavericks.
Just like the pushing the back of PJ. Washington. What
happens he blows the whistle nine times out of ten,
they do blow that whistle, right, Okay, So let's go
back even further than that. Whatever happened to that whole
last two minutes, we go look at stuff that disappeared,
(01:23:40):
you know. So there's just so many different components in
play right now. And to me, that's why I say
it's not a conspiracy. If it's true. Well, I just
hasn't been confirmed.
Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Right, I'll say this as far as the the files
being called or not called, just in general, not necessarily
only the NBA Finals, but ever since the All Star Break,
it was officiated much much differently where these officials they've
let a lot go. You've seen the comments or heard
the comments where it's looking a lot more like nineties basketball,
(01:24:13):
where it's just completely different. How do you feel about that.
I'm okay with it. I'm okay with the more physical
style of play. But I'll be lying to you. I'll
be watching these games old and I'm like, that's a foul,
and they'll just let it go. But they have absolutely
embraced a more physical style of basketball. And I'm surprised
(01:24:34):
because the NBA seemed to gradually just eliminate that, Hey
no hand check, Hey hey no this, Hey we're opening
the game up. It's more free flowing, it's more artistic,
and they have gone completely opposite and they're like, no blood,
no foul. Blood maybe a foul, right, Like that's where
they are. Are you good with the more physical style
(01:24:58):
of basketball the way it's been officiated.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
Well, I'm okay with physicality if it's on both sides.
That's the argument I've always had over the years, has
always been consistency. You know. It's like, if you're gonna
call it against the Mavericks, call it against the Celtics
and vice versa. You can't just like make it one
team only. And that's where the you know, the speculations
come in about cheating and controlling everything else because you're
(01:25:25):
not being consistent with it. If it's a flagrant, it's
a flagrant no matter who it is. You know, the
flagrantfile not flagrant. What Jamal Murray did in the in
the in the first round, throwing the heating pad. Right now,
you're saying, well, if it was Draymond, he would have
(01:25:45):
been suspended because of his history. No, the rules say A,
B and C is this, and this is the penalty.
So don't all of a sudden you start changing. So
that's what makes people wonder. It's like, Okay, well now
you're being selected on who you suspend, on who you punish,
So that doesn't make for fairness. You know, I don't
(01:26:09):
care if Jamal Murray has no history of bad stuff,
bad actions. No, the act itself warranted a suspension.
Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Yeah, I'll tell you one thing that I don't like
how the officiating has changed. I don't like the lack
of continuation fouls.
Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
Oh, I hate that.
Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
I hate it because in the NBA, you know how
this used to be, where if you got fouled, as
long as you didn't take a dribble, yes, and you
just went up, they would score it.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
It's a basket.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
It's a basket.
Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
That's why it's called continuation because it's like I picked
up my dribble. Now it's well, he's not in the
act of shooting. He wasn't in the upward motion, right, dude,
I'm not. I can't be in an upward motion because
I got hit.
Speaker 2 (01:26:56):
I know it's gone. The col drought. They officiated just
like college, where that's the way it's been for a
long time. If you're not in your upward motion, they
do not count, they don't call continuation.
Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
Well that's pretty much what the NBA is anyway. It's
a big college now, you know we're getting younger and younger.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Yeah, I just don't I used to like the way
they would call continuation files. It's more entertaining, right, if
you get bumped and you don't take a dribble, and
you hit this like fallaway shot after taking contact. You
should get credit for that. Okay, they've taken that away.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Sorry, here's one for you. Everybody's like being critical, you know,
of the old guys, but now you know, they say, well,
these guys are way better players, more better skills set.
But I'm like, wait a minute, now, imagine I'll just
name a few guys. Imagine doctor j Dominique Wilkins, Isaiah Thomas,
(01:27:55):
Magic Johnson. Let's just go with those four, and maybe
even Larry Bird. Imagine if they could dribble the ball
where it went dribble pause pause pause, dribble pause pause pause,
dribble pause pause pause. Imagine those guys with that kind
(01:28:16):
of you know, refereeing, because that's what they've allowed now
with these guys. I watched Giannis a Tatakupo dribble the
ball from half court. He takes one dribble, he's at
the basket because he dribbles, carries the damn ball, takes
seventeen steps and he's dunking.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
Imagine doctor j no siously does. Imagine Julius Irving with
those big hands being allowed to take one dribble from
half court and take as many steps as Giannis is
able to take. Come on, it would not have been fair.
Speaker 2 (01:28:51):
It would have It would have been something to see,
I'll tell you that much. If the rules were similar,
it's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:28:59):
There's no travel anymore in the NBA. There's no carrying
in the NBA. They don't even call it, and they
don't even hide the fact that they're not calling it.
It's like, whatever, Luca, I'm watching Luca dribble the ball.
It's absurd watching that dribble hesitation, dribble hesitation, Jason Tatum,
(01:29:20):
same thing. They all do it. So it's like, Okay, well, ell,
since everybody's doing let's just not call it. But it's
not fair to the game. We used to have to
keep our hands on top of the basketball, never under it.
On top of it. So it is what it is, man.
That's why I say it's just whatever the rules are,
it is what it is. Being interpreted differently now.
Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
He was asked a question today by David Aldridge, and
I'm curious if you think this is a thoughtful answer
or if it's his focus is in the wrong place.
Because David Aldridge asked him a question saying, Hey, you
played for Cleveland with monstrous expectations to win a CHAMPI
(01:30:00):
being chip because they hadn't in multiple sports for a
long long time. How would you compare that to the
pressure to win a championship when you played in Boston? Right,
So Kyrie is talking about twenty seventeen in Boston, and
he also throws in very slightly, he calls the whole
atmosphere over there in Boston a cult. Oh wow, that's
(01:30:22):
what he says. But this is a little lengthly, it's
about a minute so long sound bite. But I think
there's a lot of good stuff here. Check it out
and we'll compare notes getting traded here.
Speaker 9 (01:30:31):
This wasn't one of my options, you know, it wasn't
like number one on my list.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
So when the trader.
Speaker 9 (01:30:38):
Opportunity got approached to me, you know, instead of going
back and appreciating the Celtics history, I just came in
with the open mind and just kind of like, all right,
I'm just gonna go to flow into this.
Speaker 3 (01:30:49):
But I think that was the wrong approach, you know,
just being young.
Speaker 9 (01:30:53):
But now I'm a little older, you know, hindsight, looking
back on it, I definitely would taking the time to
get to know people within the commune unity, talk to
some of the champions that have come before me, actually
extend myself to them instead of the other way around,
expecting them to be there for me and give me advice.
So you have to show your respects here, and I
think that's what I struggled with initially was.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
Figuring out how I'm going to be a.
Speaker 9 (01:31:15):
Great player here while winning championships, while also leading a
team and selflessly joining the Celtics organization or the cult
that they have here, you know, and that's what they
expect you to do as as a player. They expect
you to seamlessly buy into the Celtics pride, buy into
everything Celtics, and if.
Speaker 3 (01:31:33):
You don't, then you'll be outed.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
And I'm one of the people that's on the ass perfectly.
So what do you think about that? Right? He's talking
doing a deep dive into twenty seventeen with the Celtics,
because that was the question he was asked. Is that
a thoughtful answer or anything different?
Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
It was very thoughtful. He just left out ure and cult.
You know. He meant the way he said it and
the way he framed it. He meant to finish it
and say culture, and he just you know, and that
might have been quite a thoughtful dig by cutting it
off and saying cult instead of culture. But that's what
(01:32:10):
he meant in how he was phrasing it, and so
to me, that's what I took out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
Yeah, I think it's a thoughtful answer he was. That's
the question. He gave a thoughtful answer. I think that's cool.
At the same time, I'd be lying to you if
I into this, I'm like, why are we doing a
deep dive into twenty seventeen Kyrie with the Celtics right
like they're going into Game five, they're facing elimination. Why
(01:32:38):
are we talking.
Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
Talking points? We need some kind of animosity, We need something.
We got to rehash seven years ago to get something,
and he's not falling for it again. Though only even
they could get out of his Why did he call
us a cult? You know? But if you listen to
the full of that statement, it was all positive. It
(01:33:03):
was he took, you know, blame and say, hey, you
know what I should have done more, I should have,
you know, to embrace what this is. And in some
ways it is a cult, just like fanatics, you know,
short for fans. Fans is you know, short for fanatics,
and so to me, that's all it was. So But
(01:33:24):
again it's like we're reaching now, that's the beauty of it.
It's kind of like movies that we watched, you know,
what's the new concept. It's like everything's just being rehashed
in a different package, but it's still the same thing.
You know, Yeah, there's nothing new, it's just being repackaged differently.
(01:33:46):
You still gave me the same crap. So to me,
that's more on the media. It's like, I'm sure that
all those guys, whether it's David or whoever, you could
have came up with a better question.
Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Yeah, that's fair. I think this too is sometimes we
want the current athletes to behave like athletes from yesteryear,
meaning this, Like I hear Kyrie's response, and I just
think to myself, Hey, if somebody threw this at Michael Jordan,
(01:34:20):
like he's facing elimination in the NBA Finals and let's
just say it was a comparable path right where he
had played elsewhere, and he was asked a question about, hey,
how does this first team compared to Boston the expectations
of winning, He'd be like Bro I'm facing elimination. That's
the last thing I'm thinking about right here. And so
(01:34:40):
sometimes we think that's the way you got to be.
And people are different. Kyrie's different than Jordan or whatever
athlete from the past that you want to bring up.
And so it just it seems wrong. It doesn't necessarily
mean it is wrong. He's just different. Like Joellenbiid was
at a finals game. Like some of these athletes from
(01:35:01):
back in the day, they want to be caught dead,
like after they've been eliminating, eliminated going to a finals
game that they are in. But some of these new
school players there is different.
Speaker 3 (01:35:11):
Man, It's very different. I mean, you're right, they all are.
And so but again we need to do a better
job of not comparing right, you know, the past. And
that's where you get all this argument with the goat
and all this stuff, because we it can't be proven.
So we take liberty, you know, to say craziness, because
(01:35:33):
who's gonna prove I can come out right now, you
know and say well, I feel I'm I'm way better
than Anthony Davis. There's no way to prove it, you know,
because we're not going to be on the on the
basketball court playing against each other.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Well, that's where you get these oh the Golden State War,
and it's like they're not tipping it up anytime soon
at all.
Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
Yeah. They you know, they better than the the bull
Come on, man, Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm saying. This
is the era we're in now. We just make absurd
statements because we know we can't prove it. There's no
way we're gonna get those two teams on the floor.
We can look at the stats for what they are. Yes,
you guys won seventy three games, but you didn't win
a title. Yeah, so that ends it right there.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
No, it does. All right, we got a lot to
do here coming up next. Do you buy what this
superstar is selling? That's on the way. He's holding polonies.
I'm Brian. No, we're live from the Tirek dot Com
studios here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio.
He's holding polonies. I'm Brian. Know. There you go. You
(01:36:42):
got love for ACDC too. Oh, it's our guy, Adam
Kaplan covers the NFL. Oh yeah, he's an ACDC fan
from last last my.
Speaker 3 (01:36:53):
First initial on your last name makes Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
No, you're right, it absolutely does that explains Rory McElroy at.
Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
It go no, I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
Oh no, also describes people trying to make this Angel
Reese foul out to be something more than it is. Yeah,
that's a no no as.
Speaker 3 (01:37:19):
Well, that's a no no.
Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
Yeah it happens, right.
Speaker 3 (01:37:23):
You know, I was going to say, you know why
we do dollar bets?
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
Why is that?
Speaker 3 (01:37:28):
Because it used to be, like the bets used to
be so crazy, whether like if it was one hundred
dollars or whatever, we wouldn't take a hundred dollar bill,
We wouldn't force you to go get like one hundred
dollars worth of nickels penny something like that. So it
just became a thing. So we just like make these
(01:37:48):
obscure bets and like and so this one was a
dollar bet, but again we gotta figure out. So I
don't know how what he's gonna do. Do I have
to go get a hundred pennies? You know, I doubt
it's gonna before quarters.
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
So that's good. I like those type of bets. You
know what's funny too, is it reminds me literally in
my wallet right now, I have IOUs written from a
card game from olden. This is probably twelve years ago.
Maybe I still have IOU's written, Oh dude, I owe
(01:38:23):
you forty bucks or whatever. I still have them in
my wallet just in case. This was in Upper New York.
I was in the Albany, New York area at the
w Wow, just in case I bump into my friends
it's like, hey, hey, you still owe me one hundred dollars.
Here are the receipts. You know I still have that.
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
I'm the firm believer in the old saying, as long
as you owe me, I'll never be broke. There you go,
and I will never be broke because there's a lot
of people.
Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
You know what, I've got a lot of people who
owe me as well, and I'd say ninety five percent
of them are listeners. A little pro tip right here,
do not ever make bets with listeners. They will not
pay up. I don't know if a listener has paid
up a bet ever.
Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
Oh they're not paying You knew that when you made
the bets on you.
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Just so the record is set straight. Mike T and Albany,
New York. He lost a steak bet to me. He
paid up on that. That might be the only person
in the history of me doing radio that is paid up.
Everybody else will invent a reason of like, oh no
I didn't I didn't bet that, or oh no, no
I didn't say yeah, I'm betting it's the worst. But
you mentioned something else, Oh no, your first initial, my
(01:39:42):
last name? That could explain this next storyline, Charles Barkley
says he's retiring after one more NBA season. Now, we've
got some audio for you. Check this out with Charles
Barkley and ask yourself the question, are you buying what
he's selling? Year it is?
Speaker 10 (01:40:00):
You know, there's been a lot of noise around our
network the last few months, and I just want to say,
I've talked to all the other networks, but I ain't
going nowhere other than TNT. But I have made the
decision myself, no matter what happens, next year is going
to be my last year on television.
Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
What do you think is this it?
Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
Oh no, I'm not buying that one.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:40:29):
But again, you know, with Charles, she that's the thing
with him. He could seriously, he could be serious. Yeah,
but right now, the fact that he did it so early,
he doesn't. Again, we don't know what's going to happen
from now until then. But I think that's the part
I gotta be deliriy of because we don't know what's
gonna happen. A deal could be struck with a networks,
(01:40:53):
the NBA could flip or whatever. So for right now,
I'm going to take him at his word, but I'm
still not buying it. I'm not sold.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
No, I hear you. I think what's going to be
really interesting is does T and T get a fourth
package for the NBA?
Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
Are they going to sort of create I don't know
what it would be, a Thursday package.
Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
Yeah, that's what I've been hearing. Yeah, they would create
a fourth package and go from there. You know, it'll
be like those you know, Sacramento Kings versus somebody, the
Detroit Pistons.
Speaker 2 (01:41:31):
They sometimes have some marquee games, even more upset. Yeah,
you know, I hope this isn't it. I hope this
is what I If I could have it my way,
it would be that T and T has the NBA
in some capacity and we still get inside the NBA
going forward.
Speaker 3 (01:41:49):
But also, Brian, all good things must come to an end.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (01:41:55):
Yeah, you know, Seinfeld friends, you know it ends, and
think about it a nice run.
Speaker 2 (01:42:02):
They've had a magnificent run. But think about that too.
Where does this leave TNT as they might be trying
to negotiate some type of deal with the NBA to
keep the NBA in some capacity. Right if Charles Barkley says,
you know what, I'm done after this season, where did
those talks go? You know, because that would absolutely impact
(01:42:24):
whether they go down that road or not with TNS.
Speaker 3 (01:42:27):
Listen, Charles Barkley is inside the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Absolutely, it's Charles.
Speaker 3 (01:42:33):
We can say whatever we want. The great Ernie Johnson
is great. I mean, no one can host like Ernie
but Kenny and Shaq and replaceable. Yeah, outside of Kenny's knees.
I mean, come on now.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
Exact laughing. We can get somebody else to last, you.
Speaker 3 (01:42:52):
Know, and we could always get somebody to be a
big do fist. So I'm not that's not it for me.
But Charles is the guy. You know, he's not afraid
to speak his mind, right, you know, and people used
to you know, they are like, oh man, Charles Walky
so sounds so uneducate. I'm like, no, he doesn't. This
is Charles Chaw's is very knowledgeable. He may come across
(01:43:15):
that way to you, but he knows exactly what he's
doing at all times.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
Yeah, I think that it's a little bit like what
we're seeing with the ABC crew for the finals. Hear
me out on this.
Speaker 3 (01:43:28):
Oh you mean human melatonin?
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
Yeah, right, like it's And last year there was there
was a lot of criticism for Jeff Van Gundy and
Mark Jackson, and you heard a lot of it like
oh these tangents by Jeff Van Gundy and the same.
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
It kept watching and it kept you awake.
Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
Yes, it was entertaining. And now listen, JJ Reddick knows
this stuff. I love Doris Burke, but they're nowhere close
to the magic that Mike Brain, Jeff Van Gundy, Mark
Jackson had. It's not even remotely close. And so the
point is the entertainment factor right there. It's similar with
(01:44:09):
Charles Barkley. For anyone who says anything critical of him,
whether it's his comments or the way he sounds, good
luck finding anyone that's even remotely as entertaining as it.
Speaker 3 (01:44:21):
Hey, Brian, whenever I feel my insomnia coming in, I
have it on tape. I just played back. Yeah, the
human melotonin and no disread to Mike Breen. I love
Mike Breen, but the mother too. And again, I don't
know if it's I'm not trying to be negative on
Darsberg or JJ Radditt. It's just that they have no
(01:44:43):
energy whatsoever. It's like, dude, it's like I'm watching it.
I'm watching an actual exam.
Speaker 2 (01:44:51):
Yes, it's just too serious, that's all. It's not fun
at all at all.
Speaker 3 (01:44:56):
I'm like, dude, this is a sport. You do know
that it's a game.
Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
It's way too serious. I loved literally, in the NBA finals,
Jeff Van Gundy would talk about getting a haircut and
it would turn into the most random story, and I
freaking loved it because it was like a little bit
of inside the NBA as far as commentators go.
Speaker 3 (01:45:21):
He was that curmudgeon. He was that guy. It's like
he hated everything right, but to the he was He
knew what he was saying though, because it was truthful.
And what I loved most about him he wasn't kow
towing to the league. Yeah, he called him out. I
love this referee sucks. That's a bad call. I love
(01:45:42):
that about him.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
Yeah, this rule is stupid.
Speaker 3 (01:45:44):
This rule is stupid. Exactly because it is stupid. I
love Man, I love that about him.
Speaker 2 (01:45:52):
Man, But Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, how they would
every now and then talk trash or just make jokes
about each other. It was just great.
Speaker 3 (01:46:01):
I missed that, say, and you didn't need a blowout
for them to do it. Yeah, it didn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:46:07):
They're doing that with a close game. Man. Oh, it
was so good. I missed those days. But that's the
same thing. You're right inside the NBA. It is Charles
Barkley and uh man for anyone, I can't if you
have some of the negative to say right now, It's like, man,
you have no foresight, because without Charles, it's just gonna
be like all these other shows. ESPN show is freaking stale.
(01:46:31):
It's tough to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:46:33):
Very stale. Yeah, you just I don't watch the Countdown
because I cannot. Oh my god, Yeah, they doing Will
Bond a disservice. Yeah, because Will Bond is very knowledgeable.
But Bob Myers and yeah, the butthole Sas. I don't
even want to say his name. Oh my god, I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
Oh, I realized this. I didn't realize.
Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
Who thinks he's the show?
Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
How you're gonna say something else that starts with that
sh sas.
Speaker 3 (01:47:06):
That's all I just say his initials. Now, you know
what's so funny? Hey wait, let me see if I
could find this because this is to me? Is him? Okay?
And oh my goodness, where is it? I had it here,
I had it here, I had it here, and I
don't have it anymore. Hold on one second, they Oh
(01:47:27):
why do you keep doing that? Okay? So a fact
is information minus emotion.
Speaker 2 (01:47:33):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:47:33):
An opinion is information plus experience. Ignorance is an opinion
lacking information, and stupidity is an opinion that ignores a fact. So,
which too, you think is sas? So you got to
pick two of the four?
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Is that right? Is that what you said?
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
So I'm assuming you're taking the bottom two, the bottom two.
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
Yeah. Ignorance is an opinion lacking information, and stupidity is
an opinion that ignores a fact. That's him. I mean,
that's how he functions, That's how most of these people
function nowadays.
Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
I enjoy stephen A.
Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
I do enjoy him, and I'm not going to judge you.
Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
Yeah, but I'll tell you this much. He draws a reaction.
He gets a reaction, whether it's positive or negative. He's
going to stand out.
Speaker 3 (01:48:25):
That's what we're in now.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
That's the name of the game.
Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
That's all it is now. The reaction.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
Yeah, we've got Martin Weiss with us. He absolutely draws
a reaction.
Speaker 3 (01:48:35):
Now, Martin is the first one I appreciate the JOG.
Speaker 2 (01:48:40):
The OG reaction generator is a fact.
Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
It's information emotion. He's just telling what it is he
giving you fact.
Speaker 7 (01:48:49):
I just can't believe you guys don't want to hear
about ethical scoring.
Speaker 3 (01:48:55):
Did you say ethical scoring? I mean that's what I know.
You want to fall aslip thurn the broadcast, But that
was how J. J. Reddick described Kyrie Irvy.
Speaker 2 (01:49:04):
He's an ethical scorer, ethical scoring.
Speaker 3 (01:49:07):
I watched, I watched the games with the volume down.
I don't blame you. That's it's a tough watch.
Speaker 7 (01:49:14):
What also was a tough tough watch was watching Warrior
mccrore miss at three and a half foot putt roll
out that probably would have forced the playoff. He ends
up finishing second at the US Open, five under the
winner Brighton Deshambo six under Patrick Cantlan Tony Fenale tied
for third with at four under and.
Speaker 3 (01:49:31):
The UFL Championship.
Speaker 7 (01:49:33):
The Birmingham Stallions have a twenty two to nothing lead
over the San Antonio Brown.
Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
Nothing. It is a butt weapon.
Speaker 7 (01:49:40):
Right now, Skip Holtz is talking into his walkie talkie
getting his play in to the UFL MVP Adrian Martinez,
who was actually bench bench last week, but he's out
there starting now and has played the majority of the game.
Twelve minutes fifteen seconds left in that one Duros twenty
twenty four, the Netherlands defeated Poland two to one. Denmark
enslav Enia ended in a one to one draw. England
(01:50:02):
beat Serbia one nil. Earlier today in the WNBA, the
Fever beat the Sky ninety one to eighty three, Phoenix
beats Seattle eighty seven to seventy eight, and Atlanta beat
La eighty seven to seventy four. College World A series
floor the State beat Virginia seventy three. They'll play the
loser of North Carolina and Tennessee, who are right now
(01:50:22):
tied at Let me refresh that because I'm not sure
what that score is. Yes, okay, bottom of the second
still tied, nothing, tied at zero. Earlier today, the Dodgers
beat the Royals three to nothing, but Mookie Bets left
in the seventh inning after taking a ninety eight mile
an hour fastball.
Speaker 3 (01:50:39):
To his left hand.
Speaker 7 (01:50:40):
Manager Dave Roberts after the game saying that that is
a fracture. No timetable for Mookie's return right now, hoping
he can be back for the playoffs. The Birmingham Stallions
just added a field goal right now, so it's twenty
five to nothing Stallions in the UFL Championship. We'll see
if the Brahmas can make it a game. In baseball earlier,
the Mariners beat the Angels five to nothing. Angels lost
(01:51:02):
to the Giants thirteen to three. Diamondback beat the White
Sox twelve to two, Blue Jays hold on to beat
the Guardian seven to six. Orioles beat the Phillies eight
to three. Ronout Blanco for the Houston Asals had seven
innings pitched with no hits giving up, but still got
taken out of the game Hoseel two.
Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
We had a three run home rounds.
Speaker 7 (01:51:20):
The Astros beat the Tigers four to one, Nationals over
the Marlins three to one, Cardinals beat the Cubs two
to one, and the.
Speaker 3 (01:51:26):
Rays outscored the Braves eight to six. Back to you guys, Thank.
Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
You Martin before you go, Man, how are things in
your world? Everything good?
Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
Yeah, you know, no major complaints, concerns.
Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (01:51:37):
No one wouldn't listen anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:51:40):
Are you having Game five tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (01:51:43):
I think Celtics probably take care of that one.
Speaker 2 (01:51:45):
Yeah, I think you know it was.
Speaker 3 (01:51:46):
That was the last stand for the Dallas Mavericks. In
Game four, Dallas takes it back to Dallas.
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
You think so olden you got Dallas?
Speaker 3 (01:51:54):
In Game five, Dallas takes it back to Dallas. Really,
this thing's going seven? Man, I ten toes down.
Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
I I hate to kick you while you're down, but
I put a dollar on that. You know I got
Let's bet it, man, I got it.
Speaker 7 (01:52:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
Yeah, Hey Brian, Yeah, did you see what the line
signed at a UFL kicker, Jake Bates?
Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
No? I didn't see that.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Yeah, they gave him a two year deal. He apparently
like he's good. I mean, he hit a sixty four yarder,
but he didn't pick up football until high school. Now
he's got a big leg and they just signed him
to a two year deal.
Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
Man. It's uh, it makes me think. The first thing
I think of is. You remember last year with the
Dallas Cowboys and their kicker was freaking amazing. This dude
he went to Notre Dame. He was a soccer player,
but he never played football, and so he tried out
for the Boys. They signed him and Brandon Aubrey. He
was amazing. He hit every kick until it's like the
(01:53:06):
final week of the regular season. He missed a kick
against the Commanders, but nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
Yeah, he was doing cowboy things.
Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
But his success really it's I think it's going to
open the door where some of these NFL teams they
don't even care. They're like, you didn't play football, who cares?
You know, what can you do? Can you kick it
between the two?
Speaker 3 (01:53:29):
But most of those kickers are soccer players.
Speaker 2 (01:53:32):
A lot of them are.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
Yeah, absolutely, they just transitioned to the to a different ball,
that's all. But hey, sixty four yards that's a nice kick.
Speaker 2 (01:53:42):
Oh man, Yeah, yeah, man, accuracy, gotta have it, Man,
gotta have it. You gotta have an accurate.
Speaker 3 (01:53:51):
Beckham.
Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
That's a lot of these games they come down to that,
they come down to a clutch kick.
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
And you gotta have a guy that can make a
fifty five yard.
Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
Yeah, it's weird, right, It's uh. It reminds me of
baseball pitchers a little bit, where it seems like everybody
throws in the mid nineties at the very least, especially
if you're a reliever. You're throwing freaking gas. Yeah, and
it didn't used to be like that, But to me,
it's comparable to kickers. You remember back in the day
(01:54:21):
where you're like, wow, he made a fifty yarder. That's
like nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Now that's that's common, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
Completely common. Things have changed, all right. We got to
close it down in style. Right around the corner. We'll
have some predictions and then also I gotta get your
take on a cover up and a crime that's on
the way. Yeah, he's Olden Polonies. I'm Brian Know. We're
live from the Tireck dot Com studios here on Fox
Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio Olden Polonies. Brian
(01:54:53):
Know with you here primes to the crew, our trusted
producer Bo Benson, Chris Burfett, and Mary mac Taxi. Yeah,
of top notch technical producers, Martin Weisse hanging with us today.
That was great to catch up with Martin Weiss, so
very cool.
Speaker 3 (01:55:10):
I didn't appreciate people talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
My dad bod who was saying that.
Speaker 3 (01:55:15):
I don't know. I just heard a commercial something about
dad bods and I just took offense to it.
Speaker 2 (01:55:20):
You thought it was about you, Our guy Ricky shout
out to him. He was here working hard on a
Sunday right getting the US Open Fox Sports radio promo
turned around real fast, Like, you know, we're not messing
around here, We're not wasting.
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
All right, man. I don't want to talk about that
US Open anymore. I know, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
I don't even mention Rory choking.
Speaker 3 (01:55:39):
Oh he choked. That was and I'm trying to give
him the benefit of dad saying, oh, yeah, you know
he's been through this before. Oh he let me down.
That was a straight choke. It was you could see
it happening.
Speaker 2 (01:55:52):
Yeah. And that dude, that was a two foot putt.
Speaker 3 (01:55:56):
Wasn't even that that long? About was inside the rubber
that was like maybe that was fifteen inches.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
Man, That's that's rough to lose by one stroke. When
you leave a put that short, Uh, it goes back
two of them though.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Man, Yeah, you're right, Bogie Bogie.
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
That that to me is that's not a coincidence. To me.
That to me is ten years of not winning a
major and you're this close right here, right now, that
seems to be a little bit knees knocking.
Speaker 3 (01:56:32):
Yeah, And I did say that his knees were knocking,
and it showed, And I guess it happens, you know,
to the best of them. Yeah, you get nervous.
Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
Yeah. Shoot, hey, how about this, olden what do you
think about this storyline? So there's a Major League Baseball umpire. Yes,
been suspended, he's been disciplined here, Pat Hoburg, he was
he violated the league's gambling rules. Now, this is the
weird thing to me. This happened back in spring training.
(01:57:02):
We didn't know about this. MLB didn't come out and say, hey,
there was an umpire. He was gambling. As far as
we know, it wasn't on baseball, but he violated the rules.
He suspended. We didn't even know about this. The news
just broke in mid June. This goes all the way
back to spring training. And now that it's been publicized,
MLB is like, oh, well, he's you know, he's no
(01:57:27):
proof that he right right, he's appealing, So we can't
comment on the details here. They're trying to just keep
everything under lock and key. They'd be way better off
just being transparent and say, hey, we've got rules you
can't gamble on any sports. I don't even know what
(01:57:48):
their rules are for umpires, but he violated them. They'd
be better off just saying what he did and putting
it to rest that it wasn't about baseball. But the
way they're going about it, it's like they're trying to
high this and it makes it way worse than if
they just came out and told us what.
Speaker 3 (01:58:03):
It was exactly. He bet on a horse race, you know,
the Kentucky derbyo Preakness or something like that and whatever.
So to me, you're absolutely right, let us know what
it is. All this extra Oh well, doing the investigation,
we can't talk about it. Come on now, stop you
you just suspended a guy, you know, you just gave him.
Is it a lifetime he got? Yeah, And so it's like,
(01:58:24):
come on now, so what are we saying there's different
rules for different people. That ain't cool. Once again, it's like,
what's the law, what's the rule?
Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
Yeah, well, that's the thing is you're mentioning. It's Tukupeda
Marcano and he's the guy who's been banned indefinitely and
that's basically a lifetime ban. Butt.
Speaker 3 (01:58:44):
But these guys are hypocrites, stough Man, because everything is
bet dot com, bat bet bet, that's all it is.
They all sponsors, they are Come on, stop, just let
it be man.
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
Well I think that. I think as long as you're
not betting on the sport that you're participating in, right,
Like if you're a baseball player or you're a baseball umpire,
as long as you're not betting on baseball, I say.
Speaker 3 (01:59:08):
Have at it exactly. You can't bet on my sport,
the sport that you work in. You cannot make any
bets whatsoever, whether it's to win, lose, or draw. I
don't care. You can do whatever else. You know, you
can gamble. That's like telling somebody who can't play poker.
Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
That's silly, right, Yeah, I don't think that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:59:25):
Gambling is what it is, man. They making money off
of it, but they trying to regulate and my you know,
control what people do. Bottom line is I can't. You
can't bet on your specific sport.
Speaker 2 (01:59:36):
That's right. Just keep it simple. Your football, ye, John
s Porter, you're a basketball player, No betting on basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:59:45):
Don't bet on your games. But I you know, one
of the things I asked Brian, how do we know
if he was tanking? I mean that's like he plays
normal like that.
Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
Yeah, well that's true. Hey, before we get out of here, Olden,
NBA Finals, do you ever see a team coming back
from a three to zero deficit to win it all?
Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
Well, just like I didn't see a team coming back
from three to one. Just like there's a lot of
things we haven't seen. There will be one team to
do it at some point in time in everything on.
Speaker 2 (02:00:14):
The NBA Final stage.
Speaker 3 (02:00:16):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
This might be terrible. I I just want to do
it back to haunt me. I say it never happens. Okay,
the NBA Final.
Speaker 3 (02:00:23):
It might not happen, but I think it will happen.
I still I picked Dallas to beginning. I'm going to
stick with them.
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Okay, we'll see if they force the game six over here, Olden,
But hey man, great hanging with you as always, and
we've got our one dollar bet on Game five tomorrow night.
