Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, let's go, sticking, genius, go pig boy, let's go,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Do you even need me here tonight? Do you even
want me here tonight?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Why do you say that?
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Well, because and I was telling Mary and Patrick about this,
as we welcome you in to the tyrack dot com
studios tyrack dot com, you know it. We'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free roadh
hazard protection, tirack dot com the way tire buying should be.
You're sending me stories at like five in the morning yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Because I work hard, Because I work hard.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, but I appreciate you working hard. But you can
do so in silence like you can. You don't need
to let everyone know. I think you schedule a random
Saturday text to be sent to me at an odd
hour just to make it look like you're up and
you're at them.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
That's what I think you're doing. I think you schedule
these well.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
You know, last week I didn't really have a chance
to talk because I was sick. Well, I was doing
the show, which is your own fault. I had way
too much sugar, way too much sugar. I had two
pieces of birthday cake that my wife was my wife's birthday,
and I had you know those eminem shareable things, Yeah,
(01:13):
I do.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I share them with my share them with my daughter.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, I didn't share. And I had two of those bags.
I had two of those bags. I'm like a golden retriever.
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Now you know Glutton, he's a sin, right.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, deadly sins. Right day, I'm like.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
A golden retriever. It's what whatever you put that in
front of me, I'm going to eat. And then by
the time the show started, I was so sick. I mean,
as soon as Mary said Mike's hot, I hadn't turned
my mic down to throw up. And you know what's
funny is because it's Father's Day. Happy Father's Day out there.
My wife just washed the bucket today, and then I
(01:52):
got sicken.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Oh my gosh, dude, watch your own bucket. What are
you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's Father's Day, Come on down.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, but it's been a week. That's when I discussed
thing your own stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Man, put all the garage, I put it, You rinse
it out, and you take care of it as your
own fault. If you were in the garage, if you
were sick, and you would someone got you sick. I
think we'd all have sympathy and we'd be sitting here
supporting you. So, but you be sick. I blamed it
on my wife's cookie. I said, no, it's not it's
you eating too much.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
You can't do that.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
And it was funny because I was thinking about last
week's opening segment and even the first hour I thought
you were on.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
I thought the connection was bad.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I thought there was a delay, because sometimes you can
get these delays in our broadcast because we're in Goldsby, Oklahoma.
I don't even know what city Alreadie lives in in Vermont,
and the crew, of course is out in uh Los Angeles,
so we got a lot of connections here, so sometimes
you can be delayed. And I remember, this is something
that you're saying, and now you're not defending it in
(02:52):
your one word answering me. So I'm glad you're not
sick this week so we can fight about things.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
It's funny because after the last segment, when I started
talking about this, Mary immediately goes. I knew something was wrong. Patrick.
The producers like dude, I could I was telling Mary,
he's kind of quiet, today. I don't know, maybe he's
in a bad mood or something. And one of our
listeners even said, I agree with Ardie, but he's just
not doing a very good job making a point. I'm
(03:19):
getting sick of the in a bucket between answering plague
there and he's he's giving me one word answer. So
I'm not all sugared up. Even my wife wouldn't let
me have any Father's Day cake. I she made some
boloney homemade ice cream with like protein and just you know,
everything you know want in ice cream, and you know,
(03:40):
so I no cone and just horrible. There's absolutely ruin,
ruined Father's Day and you know nothing, I got to
eat nothing fried.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
So did you just say baloney ice cream?
Speaker 2 (03:50):
No, you know, just blooney that I had ice cream
and just oh, I was about to say, you want
to walk that back?
Speaker 4 (03:57):
I had baloney ice cream, like what I wanted, that.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I wanted cake. I went to Costco for a special trip.
They had cheesecake with the with the berries on top,
and then they had the Father's Day cheesecake. And my
wife says, are you serious after what happened to you
last week? You think I'm gonna go buy a cake
and the cakes for like thirty people, and I eat
the whole thing myself. I don't think what takes me
(04:23):
like a week.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
But I okay, I was gonna say you better not
be doing that, but I even this is how I
truly think. Mean Arnie, is your wife makes a homemade
ice cream and you complain about it on social media.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Oh absolutely I wanted cake. No, it doesn't look amazing,
stop it. It's who makes healthy ice cream? That's my wife.
Your wife, she goes. I want you to be around
the while I goes, just so you can dag me longer.
I just know. I'm just It wasn't if you want
me to eat healthy, that's like dinner time or something,
(04:58):
not for ice cream time. Ice cream time is to
be a glutton.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
You know, come on, let's go well, And it's also
good and ad to this and just putting the full
recap on last week's show, I kind of thought you
might have been a little bit spent because you had
done the show the night.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Before, right right on with Jason Martin the night before.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Right Yes, I was on with Jason Martin. But if
you know what I wish I had, if I had
a Cameron here, you guys would have just been like, oh,
you shouldn't have.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Been on the air. You should have said, hey, guys,
I'm not feeling well. I'm gonna go yack my brains out.
I'll be back in thirty minutes. That would have been
the kind thing to do.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
And I and I did have my wife thinking it
was I go, what, what kind of where'd you get
that chicken?
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Oh? Stop?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I did? I said, what kind of chicken did you
make me? You're making me throw up? What kind of
chicken is that?
Speaker 1 (05:44):
You?
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Guys doubt how terrible of a person Arnie Spanier can be.
There's all you need? Hey, I noticed now I did
take in because I've had the rundown since yesterday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
At four thirty, I added some.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Don't don't act you add it?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Two?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, I had, So I have fourteen Roman rules going
into tonight.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Very Disappointednie Arnie's got this show put together on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
I don't know if he was planning on day drinking
today or what.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Oh a lot?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, but big.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Story one Roman numer one, however you want to put it.
You ask what I think is the most interesting question.
Over the next twenty four hours in the sports world,
and that is can we see a comeback? Was Friday
night in the NBA Finals and what the Celtics had
done to them? Now again in a situation where, let's
face it, they seem to tap out pretty early. I
(06:30):
mean they seem to say, all right, we just don't
have it tonight. It's like pack it up, almost like
they packed up before they even finished up the front nine, Like, guys, listen,
not gonna get my mixed right, my swing's bad, I'm
going home. That was like me, how I spend my weekend?
That was the Celtics on Friday night, like, oh, we
don't have this, saying could we be on the cusp
of history? Could we see something special? Or was this
(06:53):
a one hit wonder of flash in the pan Friday night?
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Chris? How long have we said? We've done the show
a long long time? About twelve? How old are were? Sixteen?
Is never meeting the one seed in the NCAA tournament?
Now it's happened twice? Is that what it's going on?
And we now kind of expect maybe they'll be close
games sooner or later. A team's gonna come back from
(07:16):
three games to nothing. If it's going to be a
team or a series. It's gonna go ahead and be
a series like this. A couple of reasons for that. One,
Boston's gonna be uh with Perzingis the rest of the
series that could very well affect them. Two, we're one
game away now from going to seven, because I fairly
really believe hermally believe that if Dallas gets this one,
(07:39):
they'll get Game six and force the Game seven back
in Boston. Three, we never know what Boston is gonna
go on those bad shooting slumps, which they're capable of doing.
It's not like Tatum's had a phenomenal series or anything
to that effect, so you never know when that's gonna happen.
They've been bailed out by Porzingis in the first couple
of games, so I think if it had happened, I'm
(08:02):
not saying it's going to it very well could be
in this series in Dallas doing it, especially with two
stars like Kyrie and Luca.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
You know.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
And by the way, I just want to say this
because I was sick last week. I think all the
Luca hating or this actually after last week is just
mind boggling, is just crazy. I mean, you're talking about
a guy, Chris that took a pain injection before the game.
I don't know what he dropped thirty I don't know.
(08:31):
You're looking for stats on Luca. Yeah, I'll get it's
like thirty something or whatever it was. You're talking to
a guy that's hurt, and all I could hear was
that this guy's a piece of garbage because he can't
play defense, and YadA, YadA, YadA, the guy's gonna be
a Hall of Famer. First of all, look, I understand
he was an estellar defensive player. The guy's going through
(08:52):
a lot. He's barely even out there, and he's dropping
buckets like crazy. I thought the piling on was just
so out of line, and I can't believe nobody came
to his defense. But nobody's like, hey, look, we understand
Egan's not the greatest don defense, but man, this guy
could shoot. He's caring Dallas in this game and nothing.
(09:12):
So I'm just shocked all the Luca hating out there.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
You know, he had to come to his own defense.
Did you notice that? Is you had the Brian Winhorss viral.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Comment where he just kind of crushed him for his defense,
and then like you said, nobody he didn't have any
things from his team, And then I don't know how
much it was asked about. And listen, we're in a
cycle where someone can say something on a network and
the next thing you know, that's going to drive the
new cycle for twenty four to forty hours. Hey do
you hear what already span your said about you? What
do you think you know? And so I don't know
(09:43):
if someone got to him was like, listen, no one's
gonna have an opportunity to defend you. Do this interview
with Lake Andrews. Let's get it right about what matters,
cause I don't think I've really ever seen that right.
I mean literally, he went and did an exclusive one
on one interview to talk about how much it means
to him and now passionate Luca is and work they
won the game right right right, and they domin one
(10:04):
twenty two eighty four. But I didn't really know why
he felt like he needed to do that. I don't
know why that was. I don't think Luca just off
the cuff says, hey, I need to talk to someone
because I want to get it out there that this
isn't me I think Luca couldn't care less. Someone had
to tell him, Hey, dude, go do this so we
can make sure that this staves off this raging mob.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
That's upset about the way you play.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I just found it fascinating that he was the one
Arnie who had to speak up for himself.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Do you think modern athletes nowadays are more i don't know,
a lack of a better word, cry babies, more so
than you can say sensitive.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
But if you want to go to cry babies, I'm
here for you.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
No more so than the guys back in the eighties,
because you know, everybody's like, oh yeah, they cry a lot.
They say this is that there was a lot of
crying back in the eighties. We just don't remember. I mean,
I remember times these athletes getting in like referees faces
and not getting thrown out of games. There were, like
even Ruf Freeser more sensitive now that they were back
(11:02):
in the eighties.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
You know, Luca has gone thirty, thirty, two, twenty seven,
and twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Now, granted, i'd pick out his defense though, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Now, Granted it's it's not like he has shot the
ball incredibly well, but in fairness, it's he How great
was he in the Oklahoma City Series?
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Right?
Speaker 3 (11:19):
He was amazing. He's actually shooting the ball better than
he did in the Thunder series. I mean he's shooting
the ball better, he's just not shooting it well. From
three is the problem, and that's where the struggles have been.
He was they won the game, but he was over
eight from three. He's won for his last fifteen. But Arnie,
he is that guy. I mean, if he gets cooking.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
A little bit, look out.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I think all the pressures on Boston tomorrow, Man, I
don't care about three to one. I don't care about
you always have this. You have this game at home.
Game seven would be at home. No, no, no, I'm
with you.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Man.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
If if Dallas wins tomorrow, we're going back to a
game six.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
I mean, there's excuse game We're going to a game seven.
I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Does Game four have an effect on Boston for Game
five or I don't. That's easy raceable because they knew
they waved the white flag and that they were gonna
go ahead and just say we came what, we got
what we came for. We got the split we happen
to get in game three, so uh, no big deal.
They actually it feels like they came up with that mindset,
didn't it. It was unbelievable, Like they're like, if we
(12:19):
get behind early, we're just waving the white owl and
we'll just take the day off and win it back
in Boston.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Well, listen, I'm uh, I'm fascinated with this, but I
do have to continue here in looking at the always
necessary roman numeral rundown for this program.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yes, yes, and and.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Then ask let's see roman numeral one subnote number three. Yarnie,
it's really been a day boring series.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Of tears.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I tried to tell you this, but there's not going
to be a ratings bonanza. It really has bored me
to tears. Maybe you we'll pick up if this thing
ends up going a little bit longer, and hopefully it does,
but it is not, you know, and with with the superstars,
and some of the performances were getting like you just
mentioned with Luca, except for the three point shooting, you
(13:06):
would think that we'd enjoy it a little bit more.
I think a couple of factors for this one member.
We talked about how that like what was it a
seven day or ten day in between them starting the finals.
That was absolutely ridiculous. And now the weekend game, I mean,
high so dumb. How do you not have a game
(13:28):
on Father's Day? If there was ever a time on
a Sunday that the ratings were gonna go through the roof,
it would be on a Father's Day where I could
see the fathers go Okay, let's go out the brunch,
let's go out the launch, let's go out to dinner,
ice cream, heat bat, homemade ice cream. Get back in
time because the game starts at eight thirty Eastern, and
(13:50):
I want to watch the game on Father's Day. This
is what I want to do on Sunday. And nobody's
gonna argue with you. You had a built in audience,
not you know, not that they're not gonna watch on Monday,
but Sunday night you're gonna draw more audience, I believe.
And here's a chance to you know, to really market
it well to the fathers. I think you dropped the ball.
(14:10):
I think that's ridiculous. How do you how do you
not have a game over the weekend. That's what I'd understand, Chris.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
It makes no sense. And this happens every year I
feel like this happens every year. There's one weekend where
we don't have anything in the NBA and this is
your last chance.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
For the most part of me, this is it. Yeah,
my mind was blown.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
But as we as we get ready for our first
break in the program on I gotta ask, did golf
fill any of that void for you today?
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Were you watching any of the US Open? I know
you're not a big golf guide, right right right, you
always got an opinion on it.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I was looking, I gotta watch something. I did watch.
I did watch a little bit, was drawing in a
little bit, so I did kind of enjoy that was
kind of rooting for Rory, you know what I mean,
who we're bowing for.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
I was. I was pulling for the Shamba. I still
don't know how happened, but at some point over the
last couple of months, I've become a big Bryson, a
Shambo fan. I am trying to order gear.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
I love the gear that yeah, man, And so I
want you to help me out tonight because I think listen,
not only get two carried away, because there's this could
be a wrestling show. We could talk about the greatest
bad guys that turned good guys and it would be
the rest of the program. Right, But to Shambo Arnie,
I bring it up here in the opening segment, not
just because you want a major, but this was a
(15:29):
dude that was pretty universally despised.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Right. He was arrogant, he was cocky.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
I don't know if you have a friend that went
from being I don't know, a little bit big and
then all of a sudden they're in great shape and
they're telling you how to live your life fitness wise. Hey,
that's me, right, that's you. Ye, so you would understand
how hateable Bryce and Shamba was. But I just I
don't know what happened. I don't know where this turned.
I haven't quite been able to figure it out. But
(15:55):
I dig him, and I think it's one of the
better one to eighties that we've had. We couldn't stand
a guy, then all of a sudden one day we
dig him. I mean, I think we've seen the opposite
with Tony Romo. Right, we have a guy that we
fell in love with in the booth and now it's
like geez, so I have to listen to him talk again,
just talk more, jim Nance, Right, But I mean, this
is one of the all time great turns that we've
(16:16):
seen in sports because of just how to spies this
guy was.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
I saw that a lot on Twitter too. I saw
people like, I can't believe this ready for him, I
can't believe that's exactly what I was watching, And I'm like, wow,
a lot of people are doing a one eighty on
this guy. So yeah, don't feel like you're alone. Now, Okay,
there were people pulling for him. I wanted to see
Rory kind of, you know, break that streak. What was
it ten years now, right that he hasn't won a major,
(16:42):
So I was kind of pulling for that. I'm surprised
that more people weren't pulling for him and wanting to
go ahead and get over that chinx. But it seemed
like more people love seeing his misery and him you know,
missing a couple of putts down of the stretch to
cost him that one. So I think more people enjoyed that,
you know.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Yeah, I think you're right. And then to see him
peel out of the parking lot.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
And oh my goodness, well you know what, maybe you know,
maybe like getting out Burger was going to close or
something that does happen. Sometimes you're like, we got fifteen
minutes to get there, let's hurry up.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Well, it was like it was like six wasn't it.
It's like six pm.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Maybe they had an appointment then, I don't know, reservation
for a restaurant.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
I don't know. Look at you make excuses for he.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Was pretty upset that they did. Look upset. Who by
the way he was? Why was he loading all the
clubs into the car? You think somebody else would have.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
He was ready to go. He was ready to get Yeah,
but you think.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
It would say gory, you know we got it? Well, you
just get in the car. And was he driving? I
didn't see him getting I didn't know if he got
in the front seat or the driver's seat, so I
didn't get to see that.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I'm not gonna lie. I just saw the car pull out.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
I think he was driving. He did kind of punch
it a little bit too much. If I was there
and I didn't know who he was, I probably would
have banged on the side of the car, going hey,
slow down, miss dark so that that would have been
me if if I didn't know who it was.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Wouldn't we come back to the direct dot studios. I
can see Arne you end up hanging on a door.
We'd be talking about you.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I'd bettching the window out.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Dude, listen, we can't talk NBA with talk without talking
about something that is.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I don't know if it's a disaster.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
I don't know if it's an embarrassment, but I know
it's definitely confusing. You know what I'm talking about, the
Lakers head coaching search. We'll give you the latest intel
next on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the

Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day

Speaker 7 (18:44):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly
because this guy the over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber list jam in me.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 7 (19:02):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we

continue on our after show called over Promised. Well, if
you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure you
check out over Promised and also uncensored by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.

There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cavino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Do you know, stinking genius to The current betting favorite
for the NBA Final.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
MVP is Jason Tatum. No Jalen Brown.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Jalen Brown. That was my next guess.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
It went from plus one fifty five to two eighty
wow after game three. Let me see, let me get
an update. I just refreshed from Vegas Insider. Now that's
that's old oh wait, hold on, no, that that is
because they add Tatum is the favorite. I gotta find
my live odds just absolutely yeah, there we go minus
(20:14):
two thirty five still plus two thirty two point fifty
five for Tatum.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Vote right now, who are voting for?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
I would probably, well, I would bet Tatum because of
the odds plus two to two. You never know what
Tatum is going to go off for, like forty points
and then people go, oh, we're gonna give him the
MVP also, so I would think I would take odds
like that.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I would take a small flyer on Luca plus eleven hundred.
It's not bad odds right now, right, eleven to one
is sweet, pretty good. Yeah, So there's your there's your
updated numbers that I had then I lost, then I
brought back. But minus two thirty five right now according
to draft kings for Jalen Brown, two fifty five for
(20:55):
Jason Tatum, Luca plus eleven hundred, and then listen, don't
don't think anyone outside of ground and Tatum's gonna win
the MVP for Boston, right but Drew Holliday has been
pretty good plus thirty five hundred.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Yeah, that's not gonna happen, though not gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
He was listed.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Jalen Brown was at plus one forty prior to the
thirty point eight rebound performance in Game three. Jason Tatumus
stays strong at two fifty five plus two fifty five.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Okay, let's get let's talk through this.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
You were ill last week, so we didn't get to
truly have a Donnie Brooke about it, right, But it
was a bit of an embarrassing start to the week
for the Lakers with the Danny Hurley news.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I guess it would be what Monday was. This was
when the.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
News actual broke, right, because you and I talked about
it on Sunday night and it was He's gonna make
his decision on Monday.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
What's gonna happen in the boom?
Speaker 3 (21:41):
We wake up Monday morning and Danny Hurley's got the
He's got the Twitter graphic and it's like, I'm staying
in North Care at Ucon, I'm not going anywhere. I'm
not going to the Lakers. And then I think it
got positioned where he didn't feel like that he was
represented well on how people were framing his decision because
(22:02):
he did a lot of media I thought he was
on with Colin. He was on Dan Patrick, you heard
it here on Fox Sports Radio. I just I felt
like he was kind of in a no, no, no, Listen,
this wasn't a leverage play. I wanted to be here,
and I also think he you know, I don't think
he wanted to embarrass the Lakers either, But Arnie, I
thought that was pretty embarrassing to start the week off,
especially with the way that the odds had been such
(22:22):
in favor of him taking the Lakers job.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yeah, I really don't understand because everybody's talking about did
anybody really believe this report? Did anybody really believe this report? Yes,
a lot of people believe the report. Now, I thought
he was going to go back to Connecticut. That was
my feeling, But that didn't mean that I didn't feel
that him going to the Lakers was a legitimate report.
(22:46):
Matter of fact, earlier in the week, I had sent
Bernie and Brian know, I think you also the odds
for Hurley to stay at Yukab and it was plus
three plus three hundred three to one, and I remember
No texting me back, going I should bet that. What
do you think? I go, Hey, I think he's staying.
(23:10):
And if you get three to one odds, why the
hell not? Man, I go So Vegas doesn't put odds
up like that if they don't really think that he's
going to the Lakers. So when you say that nobody
believed it, well, Vegas did. The odds makers did. And
not only did they believe it, Chris, they believed it overwhelming.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Make the about three.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
I mean, we're not just talking about okay, fifty to fifty,
We're talking a three to one dog. I mean, if
anybody really caught on too that they made a boatload
of money, you could you can. You can retire on
the money you made on betting Danny Hurtley. So look,
I thought he was going to stay only because it wasn't.
I didn't feel like it was a good job going
(23:53):
to the Lakers. You have a great thing going at Yukon.
Your wife is happy. I've always learned that the grass
isn't always greener. I don't need to coach a Laker team.
That's a debaco right now. I don't need to deal
with lebron I don't need to deal with Bronny. I
don't need to deal with the NBA fan base and
the Laker fan base. I could give you a million
(24:16):
reasons not to go to a million reasons stay at Yukon.
So it didn't surprise me overall that he was gonna
stay at Connecticut.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Chris I was, I'm with you, I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
I didn't sit here last Sunday night trying to tell
everyone he was going to LA I just said, your
thought that this was suddenly a broke franchise and they
couldn't get any.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
There, and a lot of people were saying that he
got low balled. I guess a lot of people say
that GD Bus doesn't have the money that the other
owners had. I brought that up to you before. They
said that his ownership is split among what five bus kids?
I thought there was only three children, what I know,
I thought there was Yeah, I don't even know. So
(24:55):
I'm shocked about that or I don't know, maybe it's
a it's not a sibling, maybe it's an ex wife
or something. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
But it said to me that he wasn't their top pick. Well,
who wasn't their top pick, Danny Hurley?
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Why is that?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Because I don't know, that's just if you're gonna and
I think that You've seen a little bit of a
battle on that front in some of the reporting wars.
Because if the Lakers wanted to pay him the money,
they would have paid him the money. You could say
they low balled him. But maybe they weren't ready to
go out there and break the bank. Maybe once this guy, I.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Don't know, we got to get to the Sacres update.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
But maybe once this gout out here and the toothpaste
was out of the tube, maybe the response from Lebron
wasn't what they wanted. Maybe they thought it's like, look,
you're here, we got Danny Hurley, you tweeted that you
liked him.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
They still made they still made him an off.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
They still made him an offer, allegedly.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Right if they didn't want him, I don't think they
would have made him an offer just to save face
out there. So I'm look, I'm not buying into that
conspiracy theory. I will think I think they just low balled.
Remember I told you the story that when doctor Buzz
bought the Lakers the owners, they're.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Worth six billion dollars. Would you stop with this stupid
The Lakers don't have any money.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Come on, That was get A lot of people were
saying that you're gonna you're.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Gonna go back to what Donald Sterling had to help
give Jerry Buss money of some sort of indication they
are financially stories, Did I send you one the same
one from a from like the m L football of
basketball where it's like we're here and they don't have
any money.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
I got one, then at least I got one to you.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Maybe what is woes and sham saying about the Lakers
financial situation? Are they sitting there saying Lakers are broke? No,
nobody is. Outside of Engagement Farm, one.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Of the one of them would be wrong anyway. So
what difference does it make.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
When we come back to the Well, we're not going anywhere,
We're staying right here in the tiroc At Studios. Well,
I didn't want to make it seem like we were
like moving away from the Sager here. He's a part
of the family, he's a part of the team, and
he comes rolling in with all the latest news and
what's trending, what's going.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
On Stevenson family. This show. Well, sometimes by the way,
you reference the TV ratings, and of course Urley's coming
off a college title. NBA Finals opener averaged only eleven
million TV viewers. Then Game two got twelve million TV viewers,
Game three eleven point four million. By comparison, Yukon's final
(27:20):
four games this year average fourteen and a half million viewers,
and those college games were only on cable. It's weekends.
We don't have the Game four ratings yet. Going into
the finals, this year's NBA playoff ratings we're down thirteen percent.
The finals continue on Monday, Boston up three games to one,
hosting Dallas. If there's a Game six, it'll be at
Dallas on Thursday. Of course, no NBA team in any
(27:43):
round has ever blown a three games to none lead
to lose a series. Bryson de Shamba won the US
Open by one stroke over Rory McElroy in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Deshambo also won the US Open in twenty twenty. McElroy
today missed two short putts on the last three whole
So he's gone ten years since his last major victory.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Oh that's not that long.
Speaker 8 (28:04):
What's the difference between missing that short putt or making
it and maybe winning the title in a playoff? The
winner got four point three million dollars. Second place two
point three million dollars. Two short putts under five feet each,
difference of two million dollars. Three WNBA games victories for
(28:25):
Atlanta and Phoenix. Indiana defeated Chicago ninety one to eighty three,
Caitlin Clark twenty three points. Stanley Cup Game five is Tuesday,
Edmonton at Florida. Panthers lead three games to one. That
team had won six in a row until last night.
Birmingham took the UFL Football Championship tonight twenty five nothing
over San Antonio. Attendance in Saint Louis was twenty seven thousand,
(28:47):
and the home team was not even there. They lost
their conference final last weekend to Wade Phillips San Antonio
team Skip Holtz coach of the winners. That's three straight
titles for him, including the previous two in the USFL.
The League Okay, yes at the Vince Lombardi of the UFL,
Yes at the euro Soccer Tournament England and Netherlands with victories.
(29:09):
NASCAR win at Iowa for Ryan Blaney tonight. He led
over two hundred laps. William Byron finished second in baseball
this evening at Boston Red Sox over the Yankees nine
to three with nine stolen bases by Boston, all against
the same catcher.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
I found the catcher. I'm starting to throw it at
the runners. Now you want to play that game, I'm
just throwing the ball right at you.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
How is it that he stays in the game after
you get about six or seven stolen bases, all successful
against the same guy. Maybe you think.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
What's wrong with you? You would a little bit.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
You would, as we saw from what we played last night.
You missed the break and then proceeded to blame everybody
else on the Oakland A's have lost nine in a row.
Lost a double hitter at Minnesota six to two and
eight to seven. They lost the nightcap, giving up a
solo homer bottom of the eighth. Baltimore eight three winners
against Philadelphia and Zach Wheeler. They homered four times in
(30:07):
four and a third innings against him, and Wheeler had
been eight and three coming in. The Mets won their
fifth game in a row, eleven to six against San Diego.
Might be a little late, but we'll see. Pete Alonzo
a three run homer in the first. He had a
late two run single as well.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
In the loss.
Speaker 8 (30:21):
The Padres Fernando Tatis oh and five yeah, oh for
five at the plate with four strikeouts. Houston a four
to one winner over Detroit. The win to Ronel Blanco
pulled after seven no hit innings at the College World
Series Florida State and Tennessee with victories. And I must
mention the good story from the Euro Tournament. As Denmark
played today, they tied to Lavinia one to one. The
(30:43):
guy who scored the goal for Denmark is Christian Erickson,
the star who three years ago in the Euros suffered
cardiac arrest on the field. Gosh, the last time there
was a Euro tournament. He's now thirty two years old.
He scored for the Danes in the seventeenth minute. The
Aime State won nothing for quite some time and then
the opposition scored in the last fifteen minutes to get
(31:05):
a tie. But in twenty twenty one, this guy collapsed
late first half of a game and was named Man
of the match afterwards, which was quite a tribute to him.
But they said at the time that he's being treated
on the field after falling over. He got help, got
a heart massage on the field and quote fortunately was
awake when he left the stadium. He was a player
(31:27):
with the inter Milan club back at the time. He's
now with Manchester United. He's on the field for his
native country again tonight, and at one thousand, one hundred
days after he had to be resuscitated after suffering cardiac
arrest on the field, he scores a goal in Germany today.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Back to you, Wow, thanks a lot, Steve, obviously to
Seger will be around a lot tonight because we got
a lot of news to get to throughout the evening.
We got some college football we're going to talk about
later in the program. Arnie's very upset.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Well, I just feel cheap, And to be honest with you.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Why is that nice?
Speaker 2 (32:04):
I mean, yeah, to be I feel like I'm a
ten dating a three.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
You're a ten dating a three. Okay, you just want
to use that as a teaser. You want to explain
it here.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Whenever we get into college football, I could explain if
you want.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
Okay, all right, fair enough, then it's already in playing
right here on a Fox Sports Sunday. Let's get a
couple of tweets. Here's one from Julian I think this
is pretty good tweets. X is whatever you call it,
at stinking genius want I'm at playing show. Everybody go
follow us at Fox Sports Radio. Julian writes, Areadye, you
were absolutely correct.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Of course I am.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Danny Hurley avoided all the politics of coaching the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers by themselves have put themselves in
an absolutely ridiculous position as an elite franchise by going
through this circus.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Yeah, you know, Chris, if you really did set down,
if you were Danny Hurley and you did the old
you know, plus's minuses. Do I want to go? Do
I want to stay? It probably wasn't you and close.
And that's beside the fact that his wife probably wanted
to go in and stay at the East Coast. Let's
start there that Danny Hurley's won two in a row,
wanted to get that three in a row. His have
(33:11):
has a position now that I mean, he's the number
one guy in all of college basketball. He's happy, his
life is happy, his wife is happy. I mean everything
about it. If you're going to go, you're going to
go for a boatload of money. The boatload of money
wasn't there. The Laker job not as prestigious as it
(33:33):
used to be. He's still a great job, but not
as prestigious as it used to be, and you got
to deal with Lebron and Bronny and all that that
comes with it. You never know when you're won Anthony
Davis injury away from him sitting out forty one games
or something to that. So I think he made the
right choice. I thought he was going to stay. I
(33:53):
should have bet him when he was three to one
that he was going to stay and made some of
the money there. But I think he made the right decision.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Well, at least at least Arnie. They won the Ncason Tournament,
so you got that right. Always they have that going
for them. I mean, that's a good thing. My goodness,
the Lakers. They've got that going as far asitles. But
just think about what you said, and I'm I'm not
necessarily here to fight with you tonight because the Lakers,
to me, are I still an elite franchise. They're still
(34:20):
a championship franchise. But they have not They've whiffed so
far on this coaching search. Still getting to beat a
great hire. It's not always about the first pick. But
think about what you just said. Yeah, Lebron James is
one of the greatest players we've ever seen. We have
fights about who's the goat, and you just said, Man,
I don't know if I wanted to take that job
(34:41):
to I wouldn't want to have to deal with Bronni
or bron or any of that. I mean, this is
this is the conversation we were having last week when you
were sick.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
And my point was, I hear what you're saying, but
what does that say.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
About our perception of Lebron right where it's Oh, man,
I wouldn't want to have to deal with all that
because he's amazing as a player.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
He is amazing. Twenty more years are you going to
get that production from him? And two, yeah, you've got
to deal with what comes with that. I mean, he
really calls the shots, even though he says he doesn't.
He calls the shots on the team, they call the
shots of the free agent, the clutch, sports, the whole
everything out there. It's not back in the eighties where
(35:19):
the players had no power whatsoever. This is twenty twenty four.
Lebron's like has got more power than anybody in the NBA,
and that includes the commissioner for crying out loud. So yeah,
I totally agree with that. I've had a hard time
fighting you on this one. When we come back to
the Tirack dot com studios. A lot of good text
and tweets to the show tonight, we'll hit him up
(35:39):
as we come to you live from the Tirack dot
Com studios with Arnie and Plank on a Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 9 (35:45):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
All right, really important question, Yeah, Eric off of the
X Machine rights Plank, since you are now the betting
genius on the show. But the bets injury due to
the Dodgers this series against the Rockies, do you bet baseball?
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I used to bet at like a fiend.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
I will ask Todd Furman because against the Rockies, I mean, listen,
I know the I know the Rockies have had some
games of note recently, but I mean I kind of
would hope that if the Dodgers of the team I
think they are, they can they can handle the Rockies
eighty six eighty six Mookie bets, But you never know.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
They're not gonna win the division anyway? Who care?
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Without who cares? I mean, I don't care. I know
that's unfair and that's not the right thing to do.
It's a person I don't care if you win the West,
are you gonna be okay in the playoffs? Because that's
what this comes down to. I'm a very oil fan.
But they took two of three from a good Royals
team after getting beaten. They put fifteen runs on the
(37:06):
board in game one against the Rangers, and I think
what scored three in the next two. But I would
expect them eric to have a big weekend.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Where's Bill Russell when you need them?
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Yeah? I mean why can't you just I don't know,
slide Davy Lopes around?
Speaker 2 (37:22):
I mean Davy Olds was the second baseman, Ron say,
the third baseman, Garvey. At first, you always had Russell
was always the clutch hitter with two outs, always got
that clutch hit for the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
This is what's wrong. I I finally figured it out.
You're starting to root for the Dodgers again. That's my team,
so it's starting to rub off this bad luck on them.
You'm a MOOTO goes out what did you think of
the video? I found that interesting where Mark pryor the
pitching coach, comes running down the dugout in the middle
of the game and taps Dave Roberts, and Roberts kind
(37:58):
of has that look when you're like, Dad, come on,
like oh jeez, okay, and just goes running down. He
was like, my goshd his arm fall off back in
the clubhouse or something. It's wild. Thankfully it wasn't that,
but the Dodgers one today, we'll see. It's a good question, Eric,
And I'm glad you turned to me the betting expert
on this show. Yeah, left Todd for him and coming
up later on the program, my man Bright Bison Bruski rights.
(38:21):
This whole idea that the Lakers low balled Hurly is crazy.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
He would have been the.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Fifth highest pade coach in the league and doubled his
Yukon salary, all without accomplishing a thing in the NBA.
What were they supposed to do make a first time
NBA coach a top three head coach in terms of
salaries or even the highest paid. There's been plenty of
great college head coaches. Wait, wait, hold on, what's not true.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
That they would have doubled the Yukon salary.
Speaker 9 (38:48):
Was it?
Speaker 3 (38:49):
It absolutely is true. Now he's going to get a
new deal, I would assume. But what they the total
number that they had would have been substantially more than
he's making at Yukon. The argument was that, oh, well,
Kentucky offered him the same exactly.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Is that not true either.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
I don't know what's true and what's not in any
of it, But I still think if the Lakers wanted
him and a hundred million out, they would have done
whatever it took to get him. That's just my thought,
not to say they didn't want him. They offered him
the job. But I don't think that. I think Byson
Bruski's onto something. Can you make a guy that's never
coached a game in the NBA, you're the highest paid
coach in the league. Can you do that in your
(39:29):
right mind? Ahead of Greg Popovich, ahead of Steve Kerr?
I mean, could you why?
Speaker 2 (39:35):
It's like it's like quarterbacks, where all of a sudden,
Trevor Lawrence is the highest paid quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
No, No, it's not.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
It could be one of those. No, it's not. It's
not like quarterbacks some Johnny cum lately. Hasn't just suddenly.
You haven't seen my man Mark Dagnault move into the
top three of highest paid coaches, have you. I mean,
these are guys who have been around for a long time,
and even Moni Williams the money that Detroit gave him.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
But he on a look what he did at Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I mean now looking back, and he did a pretty
damn good job at Phoenix whenever he was there. But
by Sion, Bruski adds, there have been plenty of great
college head coaches who go on to flame out tremendously
in the league, So why pay him like he's one
of the best. I would have been over the moon
excited for Danny Hurley if he went to Los Angeles.
I'm over the moon excited for Danny Hurley that he
(40:23):
stayed at Yilkon. I don't really feel like this was
some massive miss. I think it was a huge swing,
and you know, he got a little interest.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
I don't. I mean, I think they're gonna be fine
with whoever they hire.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
I really, look, I don't think they're like, oh my goodness,
you had your one chance, right, I said, yeah, Now,
you're not gonna win a championship. It's not like free
agency or anything to that effect. I haven't put out
on Twitter. If you were gonna draft your own team,
you're gonna take twelve players before you even take the coach.
So I don't think that puts him behind the eight
ball at all or anything to that effect.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
This is awesome that moment where I say so, you
think the Bulls could have won without Phil Jackson?
Speaker 1 (40:58):
The Lakers could have won without him?
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Of course.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
You think that Tim Dunkey demno Genobli could have won
without Greg Popovich.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
That's that's for sure. One hundred and ten percent.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
You think the Patriot's gonna won without Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
One hundred and two hundred.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
When we come back to the tyrack dot Com studios,
we do have Todd Ferman coming up next hour, but
we're counting down to football and Circus Sports this week
put out some of the numbers for the top college
football games of the year. We'll talk those totals and
those spreads next to stinking genius Arnie Span You're I'm
Chris Plank. This is Fox Sports Radio. All right, you
(41:33):
heard the man. We're coming to you live from the
tire Rack dot com studios. Ti rack dot com will
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
What you like?
Speaker 2 (41:50):
That why I love giving shocking news to the to
the crew at the show here today.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
You know that? Go ahead?
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Well you know, I said, boy, I saw those pictures
of Brian Fenley, our update guy getting married, and and
the guy's like, what he got married yesterday? I'm like, yeah,
I saw that. I go, you guys didn't get invited?
How could you not? Guys? Did you not get invited?
That's what a slap in the face.
Speaker 10 (42:18):
You're such a manipulator, you know that, Arnie, that's not
a manipulative thing to say.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
I just, well, you're just a gossip. I just I
don't know why you guys didn't get invited. That's kind
of shit. Did you get invited? Well, I'm sure my
real question. You would think that i'd be the first
invited because I live in Vermont, and I wouldn't go,
and you got a free president out of me.
Speaker 10 (42:40):
Well is it he's throwing another wedding? No, and isn't
it Not like in New York. It's that's like closer
to you. So did you get into the second wedding?
Speaker 2 (42:49):
The wedding. The wedding was yesterday. I saw Ben Mallard
take pictures.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
That's the one here in lah.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Yeah, I saw Rob Parker. Matter of fact, I think
everybody was invited, but you two guys.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
Okay, so you don't have to do that. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (43:04):
I don't know why you're trying to stir that stuff up.
I mean, this is I don't understand it. Brian got married.
I didn't know about it.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
I think he's not talk about it. I mean, the
guy was doing updates with a couple.
Speaker 4 (43:17):
Of weeks did but I didn't know when the wedding was.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
It works in radio, you gotta work non stop. So yeah,
a number one. So he's not taking time off. We're
not all jet setters like you are, Arnie, where we
have our wife waiting on his hand and foot. So
he had a grind and work still and maybe he
just didn't want to talk about it. We weren't good
enough for an invite.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
I should have gotten an invite if anybody should have
gotten in.
Speaker 10 (43:39):
So you didn't get an invite, and yet here you
are trying to bully us because.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
We I live in Vermont. That's a reason not to
get an invite. Oh sure, you want to get it.
You want to be invited, to be invited.
Speaker 10 (43:52):
He just wants to be invited to say no, dude,
you are That's absolutely what he's trying to do.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
How do you know if I wouldn't have flown out
to LA because you didn't go to the bad game?
Speaker 1 (44:04):
Right?
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (44:05):
I remember the college stuff and it's like, oh, it's
only two hours away, and you didn't still then go and.
Speaker 10 (44:10):
We gave you multiple, multiple answers. Okay, well I had
tickets for you and you still didn't go. I think Busy, No,
you weren't. I think you just you liked the idea,
so you can say no, it's a power.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
It's an ego thing for you.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Arney's idea of Busy is wants to watch correct. I
didn't know either, So congratulations.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
Congrats beef In, Congrats Beefing.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
What was the whole point?
Speaker 3 (44:36):
I had a great took care with college football spreads
and we were going to talk about you can get.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
To that all.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
Let's talk about Brian.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
I just wanted to congratulate them.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
I know you didn't know.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
You didn't know, you didn't know how you started.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
If you wanted to congratulate him, you would have said, hey,
congratulations to Brian Finley who got married apparently this weekend.
What you said, Oh, I love filling everyone in on
things they don't know.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
So I said it a different way. That's odd. No,
you didn't, That's what I meant.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
I have a tough time expressing myself.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
Yes, we can tell. There's the only true thing that
you've said so far. I listen.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
I'm very careful about whose tweets and who's I read
and whose I don't.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Right, we got to be very very careful about this.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Because we gotten one from at Devil Will Never with
the Twitter handle Hail Satan. So yeah, I don't really
know if I should or shouldn't read it, but I
kind of thought it was a good take.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
So Arnie, I guess we'll go with.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
It, right, because he's a fan of this show, But
go ahead, that's right. Yeah, both the Lakers and Hurley
dodged a bullet. Hurley is unproven in the NBA. If
he wants the job, you can just have it. In
three years, Lakers will be out of the Lebron and
Clutch sports business, and whoever they hire will be fired
within three years.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Anyway, he's not gonna take the Laker job in three years.
If anything, he'll take the New York Knicks job. Is
what everybody said he wanted in three years from now.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
Who knows no, which is what already Spanners says, because
he's already done with Tom Thibodeau. I do like him, right,
so you're already preparing for him to be fired and
early to come and take over. And now my man
at Devil will never He's already got the next coach
of the Lakers, who hasn't even been hired yet fired
in three.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
Seats, since I already I already have my third and
fourth wife picked out in case my first one leaves me.
Tell me every guy doesn't do that, Chris.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Come on, now, I don't do that. I don't really.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
You tell me every guy who listening to the show
that doesn't have like a third and fourth wife picked
out after just in case your first or second wife
leaves you?
Speaker 1 (46:43):
What the hell are you talking?
Speaker 2 (46:45):
We better move on. Let's just move on.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
I mean there might be like, hey, she's cute.
Speaker 3 (46:50):
If something happens, you had to have permission to date
or flirt with her, and your wife would always tell
you no. But as far as having a succession plan
and face, what plays? What you have like the Dennis
from Always Sunny or something?
Speaker 2 (47:02):
You know, I liked my Roman numerals and like to
get my you know, I like planning out ahead of time.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
So well, I'll let me give you some time the
plan I had here. Why are you so angry about
the college football spreads that I sent you from Circus Sports?
Speaker 2 (47:16):
Why I feel like I'm a ten dating a three?
To be honest, did to give you the data analogy?
Because you know, I'm Brad Pitt and I'm dating somebody
with no personality, that's not good looking, that's not funny,
that doesn't have a good body, that doesn't know how
to dress, and can't give me a conversation. So that's
(47:37):
what it is. Arizona comes into this new league. I
feel like we went from the Pac twelve from the
Big twelve. I feel like we went down the Division three.
I feel like we've already won the division. No wonder
you guys dominated that that conference for so long. It's
a blooney conference. Who did they pick the win Kansas?
Did I read that writer? Was I misread or did
(47:58):
I misread that?
Speaker 1 (47:59):
I sent you one guy's ballot.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
That's one guy that votes in it ridiculous. I feel
like we've gone down the D three in football. But
at least that's good for us.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
Kansas is a better football team than Arizona this year.
Kansas has the best quarterback. Maybe in the Big twelve.
Kansas has a better head coach than Arizona has. Maybe
in time that could be proven wrong. But I don't
care what you want to say about programs or what
little knowledge you have about what's going on.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
In Lawrence right now?
Speaker 3 (48:27):
Wow, well, I mean, do you do you even know
the quarterbacks?
Speaker 1 (48:32):
You know that coach name?
Speaker 2 (48:33):
I just need to know Arizona's name, and I know
what we're going to be doing. And you know, it's
like horse racing when a when a horse goes down
in class and just dominates the race. That's what's going
on here. Arizona's moving down in class. We should easily
dominate this conference. I didn't know it was such a
bolooney conference to be honest with you, but you know
is what it is.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
So what evidence do you have to back this up?
Speaker 3 (48:56):
Because if it's so blowney, why is Kansas State a
nine point favored in these openings?
Speaker 2 (49:01):
Which is why Arizona is the best pick on the
board in all of week all of the whole football
season pretty much. I mean that, what are you gonna
get like a three or four to one underdog on
the game or three to one underdog that I'm gonna
have to ask Todd about that. That's the most craziest
line I think I've ever seen in the history of gambling,
to be honest.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Most craziest. So, ladies and gentlemen, I just want to
give this evidence. This is why I can't talk college
football or even NFL. But it falls back into it's
about Arizona and the greatness of Arizona or it's the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
So I try. I just want to let you.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
If I wrong about that. You guys dominated as a polonius.
You're not Oklahoma. Now you're stepping into the big boy conference.
We'll see what you guys do.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
It's not gonna be very good.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
You're gonna gonna be amazing.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
Yeah, I mean, at least people will care about us,
enjoy those Friday night kicks, buddy, because.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
You're not You're not that. You're not that guy.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Have you ever seen that little video where the guy
in the grocery store says, you're not that guy? You
talk the biggest game for a program that's been a
chronic underachiever, if not just bad, and now you're like
a yipping.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Dog talking about you're gonna go in here with your
nine point underdog to Kansas State.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
We're the guy that you kick sand in our face
and we're finally standing up and fighting back and you know,
thrown a few haymakers ourself. What do you think about that,
big boy.
Speaker 1 (50:21):
Yeah, you'll still get knocked out.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
I mean, listen, the bottom line here, more than anything else,
is you're going into a league where I don't know,
maybe you're gonna be the fifth or sixth preseason pick
because you're gonna be behind Kansas State. You're gonna be
behind Kansas, gonna be behind Utah, probably should be behind
that home of state.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
That's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
You were behind Utah in the Pac twelve.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
We should be one or two. To be honest with
you well.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
I mean, are you gonna be able to beat Arizona State?
I mean, is that gonna be okay this year?
Speaker 1 (50:46):
Or no?
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Stop?
Speaker 1 (50:48):
So I try. I just want to let everyone know.
I try to talk college.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
I feel I feel better as extent, I feel we
feel better now that we've moved down in class the
D three football it seems like that.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
Congratulations And when.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
We got that, what's that billion dollars equity firm thing
going on? That's gonna help the conference?
Speaker 8 (51:03):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (51:03):
Absolutely? How are they gonna make money off of it? Again?
What are they investing in? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (51:07):
Exactly because because investment firms just magically give money with
no possible return on.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Investing nothing whatsoever? Nothing.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
What's the value in investing in a in a conference
and giving them capital? And the only way they make
money is off their TV deals? And that's across the board.
Like that's this is the most confusing story that I've
ever seen in college sports. But your set, You're good.
I'm happy. Welcome to D three, Arnie. Hopefully you can
whoa there you're going.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
We should dominate more than you guys dominated in that conference.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
I'm sure you will.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
The weed smoker rights Arnie would have time to attend
the wedding if he actually quit his job instead of
repeatedly allegedly threatening to quit his job.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
That's actually a very good point.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
That is a good point. And I probably could have
done the show from Los Angeles today, So you know,
I could have done both.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
Why how were you? And I'm going out there?
Speaker 2 (52:01):
That was funny. I'm going out there for the wedding
on Saturday, and then I could have done the show
on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
I like this from Jason Ay right. So I'm a
bit confused listening tonight. I've heard the woman speaking on
here before, but thought she was Arnie's wife until she
said she was in l A. And I'm also wondering
who the other guys who periododically comments is. He's not
Brian Finley.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
They thought Mary was my wife.
Speaker 4 (52:25):
I'm very much young. He's old enough to be my ground.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
But we sound like we're both the same age though.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
WHOA.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
I'll take a compliment that I sound like Findley.
Speaker 4 (52:38):
Right now, I.
Speaker 2 (52:40):
Say I sound young.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
That's all you sound young, baby, you do. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
I don't know if I listen to someone's voice unless
it's like an old crotchety guy.
Speaker 10 (52:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:50):
For clarification, I'm not Arnie's.
Speaker 10 (52:52):
Wife, yes, Mary, Yeah, I'm technical. I'm the technom producer.
I'm on the odd couple sometimes too. So yeah, that
is for.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
Our man who was adjacent.
Speaker 3 (53:03):
And then there's this from Lawrence who writes, a second
wife is Arnie Nuts, I've been married for over thirty
five years. Get married again. Hell no, fool me wants
shame on you for me twice shame on me. Yeah,
already's got this depth chart, apparently of all these people
that he's going to be married to after his wife.
When I bet, I mean, how long have you guys
been married?
Speaker 1 (53:21):
Now? Thirty years? Forty years? No?
Speaker 2 (53:23):
No, no, no, like a hundred No no, I've been
married twenty four No wait a minute, no more than that. Jeez,
I got married in ninety five, So twenty nine years.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
And you're still thinking about who would be next.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
You's going to be twenty nine just in case, you know,
just in case, Chris Rightes, I wake up at you
not there anymore?
Speaker 3 (53:46):
You know, Chris with the k rides for the love
of all things, Enough with the Laker talk.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Nobody cares well. First of all, I disagree. People care.
Speaker 3 (53:55):
They absolutely care, because you'll see more conversation time spentrobably
on this network and on the debate shows talking about
the Lakers and their coaching job than you will anything
else in the NBA. But I completely agree with you
on one front. How much more can you talk about it?
Speaker 1 (54:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (54:10):
I think everyone's made their feelings known. You even have
a battle between insiders about what was real and what
isn't and what was an offer and what wasn't.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
So that's kind of fascinating to watch you. And why
go out it?
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Are you anti Wojes now because of this whole thing?
Speaker 1 (54:25):
Or I mean the guy drops the news?
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Right? Why woant it be anti anyone that gives us
information as long as it's mostly right?
Speaker 2 (54:32):
Well, because they said that he was given a bogus
story or something to that effect.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
I haven't seen. I can never hate Woes. I just can't.
He's given us too many.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
Body I agree. I totally agree with him.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
Shams is the one that still has got to prove
it to me, that's the one, right.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
I like him. He's sharp dress.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
Why why is it that big of a deal. I mean,
they there, I think like their jobs are on the line, Chris,
you pick the Raiders over the Dolphins. I picked the
Dolphins over the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
I mean I actually didn't pick the Raiders or whatever, but.
Speaker 2 (55:03):
Whatever I've just said. We pick a game. Our jobs
are not on the line for the most part here.
You know what I mean that they're not. You better
get that right. I can't believe you're wrong on that game.
You can't get everyone right on the on the prediction game.
You can't get everything right on the insider game.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
Can you know you're gonna miss some?
Speaker 3 (55:20):
I mean, and listen, we hold on to the big
losses and the big miss is more than we celebrate, right,
And they're right right? I mean, well, we do the
same thing on this show with our picks. And then
there's one more quick one before we break here on
the Twitter machine, griddles make blackout Rights aren't even being
delusional again and a season of them whining about how
(55:41):
they don't meet expectations. Arizona Conference wins over under three
and a half. Oh suh, you know what I would?
Speaker 2 (55:50):
I would sell everything I own, including my clothes, and
bet the old ruck stop it stop it going down.
And in conference we're going down to the d D three football.
We're gonna have over under three to a half. Stop it.
Speaker 1 (56:05):
Good luck?
Speaker 2 (56:06):
All right when we come back to me Bush's where's
gonna be our toughest place to play?
Speaker 1 (56:11):
By the way, Where's gonna be your toughest place to play?
By the way?
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (56:16):
I mean, are you going to Manhattan this year?
Speaker 2 (56:20):
Yeah? We're going to Kansas State?
Speaker 3 (56:21):
Yes, all right, Yeah, that's probably gonna be the toughest player.
You're going to Utah again this year? Do you ever
win there?
Speaker 9 (56:26):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (56:26):
I mean I already used to the Pac twelve and
stuff like that. I just met like from the from
the Big twelve teams.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
Yeah, Kansas State, dude.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Well, by the way, that game, that game doesn't count
as a conference game.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Oh it doesn't, no.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
Because they're doing it to help fill a non conference
spot or something, or it was already place each other.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
It was already filled as a non conference game for
Arizona and Kansas State. They the game. So I believe
that doesn't count as a conference game.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Well, I would say I would say that this is
a conference game too. Now, you do play at BYU,
that's an awesome environment, and you do play in Orlando
against UCUP that is an awesome environment. The BYU environment
runs lapse around what I expected it to be.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
If that's the toughest environment you're giving me, that's nothing.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Then when we come back to the direct dot Com studios,
Todd Furman joins us right here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, it's aarreny in playing. Come to your live
from the ti rack dot com studios. Ty rack dot
Com will help you get there. It's about every Sunday
night we get a chance to talk to Todd Furman bet
the Board podcast. Todd ready to go. I feel confirmation
(57:32):
on that. I'm confident enough to say Todd's ready to go.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Oh, go for it.
Speaker 1 (57:37):
Todd Furman's in the house. What's going on, Todd? How
are you, Bud?
Speaker 5 (57:39):
I'm doing well tonight, gentlemen? How you boys holding up?
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Great? Great?
Speaker 3 (57:42):
Greg gat Hey. So I try to talk college football, Arnie,
and then it becomes nothing but Arizona.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
So can you help?
Speaker 3 (57:50):
I am so intrigued by some of the numbers and
the movement that we've seen already. Todd, how much stock
do you put into I like the circles of the
world putting out the games of the year, and then
you see that massive, not massive, but some pretty interesting
movement immediately. Do you get much involved in this market?
Does this doo much for you?
Speaker 5 (58:08):
You know, I'll do more with win totals than i
will with some of the Game of the year numbers.
It's always the cost of capital when you're looking at
some of these numbers, whether they're game of the year
prices for games that we're going to see in the
middle of September or in some cases, games that won't
unfold until late November, you have to have a substantial
edge if you willing to tie up your money. Even
as a professional better in that regard. So if numbers
are three to four points off, you can understand why
(58:30):
folks jump into the deep end of the pool. But
the days of being able to find seven to ten
points of variants like you used to be able to
in the past, even with the unpredictable nature of the
transfer portal, makes things progressively more difficult. And the one
thing that we've seen over the last couple of years
in the current landscape, you know, teams typically check out
the deeper you get into the campaign. So I think
this season is a little bit of uncharted territory when
(58:52):
we try and figure out how different schools are going
to approach not only their conference games, but of course
the playoff implications that we'll see deep into the month
of November.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Todd, let me help you out here, Todd, I brought
this up to Chris Pike. Let me, by all means,
use this as you will. First of all, Arizona going
from the Pac twelve to Big twelve. I mentioned this,
it's like we're going to D three football. We're taking
we're going down in the rankings here. We should win
every game, and we're nine and a half point underdog,
a nine and a half point underdog the Kansas State. Mike,
(59:22):
are you serious? I mean I can get rich betting
Arizona getting like three to three and a half to
one in that first game. Todd, you should take a
look at that, my friend, trust me on this one.
Speaker 5 (59:34):
Well, here's the wrinkle with all of that. First off, Arnie,
I mean calling Big twelve football Division three maybe a
little bit of an overstatement given what the Pac twelve
has been up until last season. But here's the other
unique wrinkle about that game that Kansas State will play Arizona,
and you can correct me knowing that you're the big
time Arizona football fan around here. That's not even a
(59:54):
conference game in terms of the way things lay out.
That's a non conference game that was scheduled before Arizona
it was going to be a member of the league,
So it won't have lasting ramifications in terms of how
these teams stack up in terms of trying to get
that automatic qualifier bid coming out of the Big Twelve.
But when you look at Kansas State, they are a
team that's getting a lot of buzz. We've seen some
(01:00:14):
money coming on Avery Johnson to win the Heisman, which
I think is a little bit of a leap of
faith given his dual threat ability. But I'm not nearly
as how I had Kansas State as things stand right now.
As the betting market, I want to take a wait
and see approach for Arizona as well with the coaching change.
But I've been a big coach Brennan fan. I love
what he did at a program at San Jose State
that's one of the more difficult places in the country
(01:00:34):
to recruit to. So I think Arizona fans should be optimistic,
even if they don't realize their full potential this year.
That it's a program that's on the ascent, and there's
no reason to believe that they can't be one of
the top programs in the Big Twelve once they fully
get elivated in justin.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
It's Big Twelve, we'll go to the playoffs this year. Playoffs,
my friend, Let's go.
Speaker 5 (01:00:55):
Unfortunately, if I'm making a projection or prediction, depending on
what you want to call it, coming out of the
Big Twelve, the team that I would be picking a
things stand right now is actually in Plank's backyard, and
the team that his beloved sooners have elected to duck
in future matchups.
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
Better right, got to dodge those Oklahoma State Cowboys look out.
But you know, here's what's interesting is you see that
minimal movement that takes place. But Todd, is there anything
over the next few days, just outside of your own research?
Obviously arrest and suspensions which we don't even know about
sometimes until the game up. What are some things that
(01:01:29):
can really change your mind about a win total and
make you for instance, not a lot of people are
digging Oklahoma State like you appear to be, but yeah,
every year they overachieve. What are some things that can
sway your opinion over the next few weeks.
Speaker 5 (01:01:41):
You know, not as much over the next few weeks
in terms of you mentioned injuries and suspensions, but the
camp reports that will inevitably get when these teams actually
get to campus and you see some of the new
head coaches and new coordinators implement systems. You can never
tell what these teams are going to look like. And
I think that's some of the joy, some of the
romanticism about college football, because you can come in with
(01:02:02):
lofty expectations Week one, you get kicked in the teeth
and suddenly the season goes completely haywire, or in the
case of TCU, like we saw a few years ago.
I mean it sparked a Cinderella run to the national
championship before they got curb stomped by Georgia. So I've
put in a ton of work, like most folks do
when it comes to college football. But the one thing
I've learned over the years, and I'll say even more
(01:02:22):
now with the way that we see these rosters turn over,
is that you have to be fluid in your assessment.
You can come in and be stubborn, but if a
team tells you who they're going to be when you
get one or two data points, especially early in the year,
you have to be able to make those adjustments in
your power numbers, whether it's up or down, and sometimes
it's as much as you know, five to seven points
in the early going.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
If I'm moving point.
Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Spreads in terms of my own power numbers by a
full touchdown in November, then clearly I've done something substantially wrong,
or I'm working on information that is typically not generally
made available in the public.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Not over to the NBA Finals. You know, we used
to say in the NCAA, you know, sooner or later,
sixteen seed's going to be the one seat that's happened twice. Now,
sooner or later, a team's going to come back from
three to nothing. This could be the series. What kind
of odds could they get back that the MAVs are
going to come back down three to one? And also
Game five Boston six and a half over under two
to nine, alf, What do you think about that?
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
You nowhere near the price that I think I'd feel
comfortable taking with Dallas right now twelve to one to
come back and win the series if you believe they
can win three straight. But I think Game four was
more reflection of Boston just kind of taking their eye
off the prize. It was the most Lethalgic that we've
seen them defensively in this entire series, and I think
they'll get back to basics and have an opportunity to
(01:03:37):
win the series in front of their home crowd. You
have seen money, though, come in on Dallas. The number
moved off of seven, as you mentioned, now down to
six and a half. I just think this is a
Celtics team that's shown their depth through the first three games,
and just because Dallas happens to get going offensively, you
get a Luca Doncik, who was called out by a
lot of the more prominent NBA writers and those folks
(01:03:57):
that cover the sport, Dallas put together their complete forty
eight minutes. Do I think it happens again in Boston?
Absolutely not so for me. I think we're talking about
the Celtics raising another banner to the rafters. And the
biggest question in issues still to be determined is who
will be the finals most outstanding player? Will it be
Jalen Brown, will it be Jason Tatum? And I think
that's what we're gonna be watching for tomorrow night in
(01:04:18):
the pivotal.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
Game five betting market seems to still love Jalen Brown.
Is there any chance that you might be willing to
take a flyer on someone like Luca?
Speaker 5 (01:04:27):
No, just because I think if I'm gonna beout Luca,
I'd betting the Mavericks at twelve. They want to come
back and win the series. I can't see a scenario where,
you know, this thing ends in five or even six
games and someone on the losing team is actually taking
home the MVP. I think those days of something like
that happening, whether it be the NBA or the NHL
are officially behind this. You got to have some sort
of herculean historical performance for that to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
Todd Eddie, First of all, Vegas do they put out
a lot of lines on the Olympics, and can you
get value? Can you you know, I'm smart Vegas when
it comes to.
Speaker 5 (01:04:59):
The you know there'll be some opportunities if you've done
your homework in some of the Olympic sports. It's not
an area that I delve into. A ton won't claim
to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to swimming
and diving events or over track and field by any
stretch but when you look at basketball and some of
the other sports that are there, you know there are
people that are going to try and take advantage. And
because it's such a short sample size, even with the
(01:05:21):
level of sophistication we see now in the betting market
that we wouldn't have ten to fifteen years ago, there
will be teams and you know, individuals that are mispriced
for a lot of these events. So for those folks
to do their homework, there's no doubt going to be
an edge they can find. But typically as we get
deeper into July, I mean, I'll check out from a
number of sports other than NASCAR once the NBA NHL
playoffs are done and fully lock in to try and
(01:05:43):
make sure I am ready to go for football season
when it cranks up in late August.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
You team Bryson yet or does he still need to
do a little work to turn.
Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
You you know what? He's not for me in terms
of four or against by any stretch. Do I appreciate
his performance today and the guts encourage he showed getting
that bunker shot at an approach on eighteen within you know,
a very makeable putting range compared to what we saw
Rory dou blowing a two stroke lead with fibles to go.
There's no doubt Bryson deserves all the accolades. And when
(01:06:11):
you look at how some of his compatriots and live
have performed, whether it's Dustin Johnson who appears to have
one step on the beach every major he goes to,
he deserves a ton of credit. I think Bryson has
really embraced the role of going from the heel to
having now folks that you really want to root for him.
And look, when you win a second US Open, it's
not because it's all done by chance or coincidence. So
(01:06:33):
he enters in elite field that only twenty three golfers
are in with him, and I think it's a credit
to his commitment when you look at how he's performed
all the majors so far this season.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Tod I'm curious. We talked about this earlier. I said
this to Brian No. I said that to Bernie Fratto,
Danny Hurley returning to the Yukon as a three to
one underdog, and Brian knows like I should bet that.
I'm like, hey, if you think he's going back to Yukon,
you definitely gotta bet that three to one. Now, I
don't think Vegas had I think it was off I'm sure,
but I mean, did you get advantage, did you take
(01:07:02):
advantage of that or.
Speaker 5 (01:07:03):
What small novelty markets. For the most part, it becomes
a talking point more than anything else. It's not typically
on an avenue where you can make anything substantial. But
to your point, Arnie, someone clearly had information, and it's
rare that even the offshore books will completely misprice a
market like that and work under the assumption that Danny
Hurley was more or less a formality end up.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
With the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (01:07:24):
But here the Lakers are trying to figure out who
is going to head that ship and Danny Hurley going
back to stores to try and win his third national championship.
You have to wonder if he thought that the Lakers
offer either undersold him or he feels that it's a
franchise and a front office that may need a little
bit more direction than even he can provide. When it
comes back to as an host.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Catch along, have a great week, Todd. We always appreciate
your time.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
Everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Go follow Todd on Twitter and check out his podcast,
The bet to Board Podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
We'll talk to you next Sunday.
Speaker 5 (01:07:50):
Man Always a pleasure, Jeds.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Greats to Todd Furman here with Arny and Plank on
Fox Sports Radio, Steve de Seger with what's trending?
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (01:07:58):
Steve, he mentioned the we'll talk about in fifteen minutes
what the swimming trials have to do with the NFL.
We did have football on Fox TV today. It was
the Spring League Championship game and the UFL titleist Birmingham
winning twenty five nothing over Swam.
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
I picked up at the beginning of the year the Segar.
Speaker 8 (01:08:18):
That's three straight titles for coach Skip Holtz and Clive
previous two in the USFL. So in the three years
his teams have gone thirty two to four and the
final was in Saint Louis, which has gotten good attendance
for the Spring League twenty seven thousand, even though Saint
Louis was not there twenty seven thousand fans in attendance
because Saint Louis lost its conference final at home last
(01:08:40):
weekend to the San Antonio team coach by Wade Phillips.
Birmingham last weekend won its conference final thirty one to
eighteen against Michigan despite trailing eighteen to three in the
first half. More on Michigan in a moment Today's game
MVP Adrian Martinez, Birmingham quarterback, three total touchdowns. He was
the season MVP as well the Praska Court. Yes Yes,
(01:09:03):
he led this league in rushing with over five hundred
yards in ten games. Now UFL kicker Jake Bates is
signing with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Michigan Panthers.
Hit three sixty yarders this season. Apparently UFL players can
officially sign on Tuesday. Bryceon De'shambo won the US Open
by one strokeover Rory McElroy and Pinehurst, North Carolina. Deshambo
(01:09:24):
also won the US Open in twenty twenty. McElroy missed
two short putts on the last three holes. He's gone
ten years since his last major victory. By the way,
the difference in winning the first place prize or the
second place prize two million dollars four point three mil
to the winner two point three mil to the runner up,
and Rory McElroy has been runner up in a major
(01:09:47):
now four times in his career. Deshambo on the final
hole was in a bunker fifty five yards away and
chipped to about four feet away and then sunk to
bar putt to win. So you know he didn't get
used to the f ways, but he kept getting a
good scores all after Hall of what do you know?
He's holding the trophy at the end. Deshamble led by
three strokes to start the day. He is number ten
(01:10:09):
in the world rankings. Tony Finow and Patrick Cantley tied
for third place today two back. The NBA Finals continue Monday.
WNBA Indiana beat Chicago ninety one to eighty three Caitlin
Clark twenty three points. Stanley Cup Game five is Tuesday,
Edmonton at Florida. At the euro Soccer Tournament, England won
nothing over Serbia with a goal in the thirteenth minute.
(01:10:30):
Only eleven total shots in that game, lowest in the
Euros since at least nineteen eighty. Netherlands beat Poland two
to one on a goal in the last ten minutes
of the game. Denmark tied Slovenia won to one as
Christian Eriksson scored in the seventeenth minute, three years after
suffering cardiac arrest on the field for Denmark in the Euros.
Coming up Monday on Fox TV France Versus Austria three
(01:10:52):
pm Eastern Time. Big matchup Thursday this week with Italy
against Spain in group play. This tournament started Friday. Germany
as the host. They had the first game and the
Germans beat Scotland, beat him up five to one, outshot
him twenty to nothing in that game, and Scotland's only
score came on a late own goal. The tournament final
will be in Berlin. In him on Fox TV has
(01:11:14):
twenty nine of the Euro games, plus FS one has
seventeen games. The Copa America Soccer Tournament South America's championship
starts Thursday night on FS one. Argentina against Canada is
the first game. Canada is not in South America. You
might wonder it's because the tournament's being hosted by the
United States, so they've invited the US, Mexico, Canada to
(01:11:35):
be in this tournament with them with the games on
Fox and FS one. NASCAR was at Iowa tonight. Ryan
Blaney the winner, William Byron finished second. Blaney led over
two hundred laps tonight in baseball Boston over the Yankees
nine to three despite an Aaron judge homer his twenty six.
The Dodgers got two home runs from Shoeyo Tani. He
has nineteen Dodgers shout out Kansas City three nothing but
(01:11:57):
Mookie bats of La broke his hand hit by a pitch,
a ninety eight mile an hour fastball near the left wrist.
He'll see a hand specialist on Monday. No surgery is needed,
the team says, but let's be realistic. He might be
out until August, and pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto officially goes on
the injured list today with last night's strained rotator cuff. Wednesday,
(01:12:18):
Clayton Kershaw will be pitching in a ball so his
return is a little more eminent than it was before.
Mett's won their fifth straight. Baltimore beat Philly and Houston
four to one winners against Detroit. Houston pitcher Ronelle Blanco,
a guy who threw a no hitter early this season,
was pulled after seven no hit innings today. Ninety four
pitches thrown. He had eight strikeouts, three walks. He's now
(01:12:40):
seven and two this year. College baseball wins for Tennessee
and Florida State. Back to you, Tennessee number one.
Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
See one win away from a birth in the championships.
Speaker 8 (01:12:51):
I think they're off until Wednesday. Now, that's right, they've
won their first two.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
That's right. Those hotels gott to do really good, really well.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
I guess I should say around Omaha, you're there for
a while if you won a few games.
Speaker 8 (01:13:02):
The teams that were there for a while. Was that
Florida game last night. It was a four hour rain
delay in the state.
Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
I did the postgame show, Steven Oh.
Speaker 8 (01:13:11):
My wow, A and m three to two was the finals.
So we've got a Florida in an elimination game tomorrow
against n C State. You know we had the first
three games were walk offs. N C State lost on
a two out homer in the tenth Saturday to Kentucky
five four, and then the Friday openers, North Carolina got
a run bottom of the ninth beat Virginia, and then
Tennessee took its opener with four in the ninth, winning
(01:13:34):
twelve to eleven over Florida State.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Thanks. Yeah, I lived it, man, I lived it. It's
been wild, it's been fun, and it was really late
last night. You know, you kind of make me mad, Arnie.
I'm just going to tell you right now.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Okay, we have all of these good things.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
On the Circa rundown that I sent you right the
Circus Sports and it's Games of the Year, and you
literally imploded our whole college football segment. Could have talked
about the Michigan USC game, Texas, Michigan is gonna be awesome. Uh,
you got Georgia in Texas on here, Oregon, Ohio State.
But no, you got to sit there and talk about
(01:14:06):
how you're apparently going to D three now and you're
shot at.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
You real it, man, there, I know there was some
there's some key games. I just just I can't just
start picking games like in week two, three four, you
know what I mean. But uh, there's some great games.
I just can't wait with all the new conference realignment
and to see what you know, not only you guys
in Texas and USC and U c l A. I'm
just I just can't wait for this year as of football.
(01:14:32):
This is this is the most excited I've been for
college football in a long long time.
Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
Ohio State already listed as a one point favorite against
Oregon in one of the games of the year. Two
other numbers that caught my mind, Pennstar I caught my eye.
I guess I should say Penn State a five point
favorite at USC interesting. Wow, and Texas a five point
favorite at Michigan.
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
I get it. Everything's different in Michigan. It's still right
right to be a pretty big number.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
For throwing dirt on miss again early. Huh geez.
Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
Yes, they're trying to all right when we come back,
get your tweets have been really good tonight. It's Stinking
Genius one. I'm at Plank Show. Everyone go follow us

Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast, and we'll
be there with you and Steven Sager, who's got an
update on everything going on in the world of sports.
Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
What's up, Steve.
Speaker 8 (01:15:38):
Guys An NFL Stadium is hosting the US Olympic swim
Trials right now.
Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
I aw that one in Indy.
Speaker 8 (01:15:45):
Yes, it is going through next weekend. I'm not kidding.
Lucas Oil Stadium where the Colts play, is hosting swimming
this weekend and all the way through next weekend. They
took the goldposts out, had hundreds of workers in there,
and they've built a pool deck ten feet above the football.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
Floor inflatable ones right.
Speaker 8 (01:16:08):
No, by building it above the football floor, then they've
created space for a two and a half meter deep
pool where they have all the races this coming week
amazing without having to drill into the concrete base of
the stadium floor. And they've taken out the first ten
rows of the lower football seat since now we have
(01:16:28):
a raised floor.
Speaker 2 (01:16:29):
No way this is going to work. I guess it
is already working working. Oh, I'm like, it's gonna weak
in it. What are we gonna do?
Speaker 8 (01:16:36):
More on the water in a moment, But they took
the end zone bleachers from one side, took them out
and brought them past midfield so that they can be
next to the pool. And then at midfield they have
this huge black curtain hanging at the fifty yard line.
So this once cavernous building is now cut in half
(01:16:56):
with a swimming pool on top of the football field. Essentially.
As for water, they worked with the local fire department
in Indy and an energy company tapped into a hydrant
nearby and pumped about a thousand gallons a minute into
the stadium through special pipes that they built so it
could flow from street level into the stadium. My god,
(01:17:18):
from the concourse pipes down over the seats to the
stadium floor two stories below street level, and filled up
the pool that way. Actually went through filters for sanitation
and so forth. They say the stadium wants the water
gone pretty quick. After they're done next weekend, they're going
to pump it out back to the street I assume
(01:17:39):
to street pipes. But this is costing millions. But it's
quite a sight if you've seen a photo.
Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
Well, and again, Indie fans helped me out. I stayed
in downtown Indy last summer. I mean there's all kinds
of construction around there too, So I mean you've got
a mess around that stadium in downtown Indy and then
lo and behold, oh yeah, just hey, get the hoe,
run it through the stands from outside, and let there
wasn't a better potential facility for this.
Speaker 8 (01:18:06):
It's quite well, let's see They've just set an attendance
record twenty thousand at a swimmingead by doing this. And
I can go you one further, because you know, we
have the Olympics in Paris coming up this summer. The
next summer Olympics after that are in Los Angeles. For example,
the Lakers Arena is going to be hosting basketball in
twenty twenty eight. The soccer for those Olympics are going
(01:18:27):
to be at the new Soccer Stadium next to the
LA Coliseum. Swimming at the Olympics in Los Angeles in
twenty twenty eight, well, let's just say it's not going
to be where it was when LA hosted the Olympics
in nineteen eighty four, because back then it was at
the USC swim Stadium, which had at the most five
to ten rows. Their plan is to go next door
(01:18:47):
to that on the USC campus and put a swimming
pool on top of the USC baseball field, right next
to the USC football practice field. I'm not kidding even
of the baseball stadium. Gonna do kind of what they
did with the Colt Stadium and the swimming this week,
just create a temporary pool for the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
On top of the US Baseball'sific Ocean. For that you're
right there, bitten by sharks and stuff. That'd be crazy.
Speaker 8 (01:19:17):
Meanwhile, golf is in the Olympics again this summer in Paris,
and the way they worked it is the US has
four slots. They can send four golfers or their Olympic
golf team for the men. Whoever your top four in
the world rankings are, those are the four that are going.
That is, whoever's the top four after today, So we
know that, for example, number one Scottie Scheffler is going.
(01:19:40):
I believe Xanderschaffley, of course, defending gold medalists would be going.
He's in the top five. Colin Morikawa got the last
Olympic spot. Bryson Deshambo is not going to the Olympics.
He won the US Open, but because he's with Live Golf,
his world ranking overall is only number ten, and the
US has four of the top seven in the world.
(01:20:01):
So number eight Patrick Cantley gets edged out Number ten
Bryson to Chambo gets edged out Wyndham Clark, who's number
five in the world and finished twelve over par today.
He is going to the Olympics. But yet again because
of the whole Live Golf controversy. We're not getting the
US Open champion on the US Olympic Golf team this
(01:20:22):
summer in Paris. The Shamba a couple of years ago
had signed a nine figure contract with Live Golf, worth
over one hundred and twenty five million dollars, with a
lot of it upfront. He said. He called it a
business decision, but that means your ranking's not going to
be what it was, and in this case, it costs
you an Olympic spot. The big injury at Dodger Stadium today,
(01:20:43):
Mooki Betts took a ninety eight mile hour fastball near
the left wrist, broke his hand. No surgery needed, He'll
be seeing a hand specialist in La tomorrow. Might be
out until August. And yes, picture Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the
injured list.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
Back to you.
Speaker 3 (01:20:58):
Great luck right right the same day, when Arnie's starting
to proclaim this as his Dodgers thinks about the Dodgers
fall apart, Let's go. Arnie's got a list for you.
He's got a list coming up next hour. He's put
a lot of work into this. In fascinat taken care
of at four o'clock yesterday afternoon when he sent me
the rundown for the show. It's the best sports TV shows,
(01:21:20):
and we're talking about it. Next final hour, Power Hour,
We're coming in hot here on Fox Sports Radio with
the stinking genius Arnie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank. We appreciate
you spending part of your Sunday night into a Monday morning.
Depending on how you look at this, and Arnie and
I look at it both ways, this can either be
(01:21:42):
your week end wrap up or the jump start to
your week.
Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
I prefer the jump start to your week.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
Okay, though I will admit we spent some time talking
earlier in the program about the Danny Hurley story. We
had the opportunity, like the last chance to project and
predict what would have happened, and then Monday it happened.
And by the time we circle back around, it's old news.
The Lakers, I guess, are onto JJ Reddick and quote
unquote bigger and better things. So that's back on the
(01:22:10):
podcast and hour number two. We kick off our number
two with it simply search Fox Sports Radio. However you
consume podcasts, and Arnie, I gotta admit you got me sucked.
Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
In on the Roman Numeral rundown this weekend. Yeah good.
Speaker 3 (01:22:24):
And I don't know if this, first of all, was
in a foundation of coming from the Charles Barkley News right,
because we had a lot of TV talk right right,
there was a lot of buzz about is this the
end of one of the greatest shows in the history
of television, history of sports television?
Speaker 1 (01:22:40):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
Well, more studio shows now, I'm not talking about like
shows with actors or anything like that. Very true, right,
So I excluded all that because then you're opening up
a whole list of other shows that were you know,
comedies and stuff like that. This is just news shows,
new show, studio shows, you know, highlight show stuff like that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:04):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
So, and I guess celebration. By the way, do you
really think he's done with TV?
Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
That's this year?
Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
Right? That's the reason, right, that's the reason why I
put out there with Charles Barkley said he was done,
which we're probably going to be done with the TNT
show anyway. I do think he is going to be done.
You look at his age. Are they going to still
be able to continue to pay him that type of money?
If not, why continue to do it. Why not just
say it's been a good career and work on other
(01:23:33):
subjects or other other venues that he has. I'm sure
there's other stuff that he wants to do.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
You know what I mean to fully give you context.
Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
I'm sorry there's an ex football player.
Speaker 1 (01:23:45):
Sorry, Mary, I was trying to like do what you
would laid out and pretty well.
Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
But who is the ex football player that's now doing
Hollywood Squares?
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
I don't know. I don't watch Hollywood Squares.
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
Yeah, no, no, he was the one that did real
a fortune. But yeah, there's an I think for ESPN.
He's doing Hollywood Squares now. So he got that. So
you know, there's other things I'm sure Barkley can do,
but go ahead, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:24:09):
So here it's what we were referring to and talking
about in Barkley's quote unquote announcement on Friday Night.
Speaker 1 (01:24:16):
You know, there's been a lot of noise.
Speaker 11 (01:24:17):
Around on network the last few months, and I just
want to say, I've talked to all the other networks,
but I ain't going nowhere other than TNT.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
But I have made the decision.
Speaker 11 (01:24:29):
Myself, no matter what happens next year is going to
be my last year on television.
Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
Yeah, I believe it. I think I think he means that,
and I think there's other stuff you'd like to get into,
So I believe he's going to do something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
So with that in mind, Arnie got us go in
with a little list season here from the ti rack
dot com studios. Tirack dot com will help you get
there and unmatched the selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire rack
dot com the way tire buying should be. I don't
know if this is like your picks and if you
need music for this or not, but Arnie has his
(01:25:05):
top five shows of all time, and I think you
gave just about every single disclaimer and every single caveat
that you had. Right, You're not talking about TV shows
where they were actors. This is truly just top five
sports shows of all time, right.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
And I did have to pull the music to number one,
which is I don't remember if you remember this, Chris,
but this week in Baseball Notes twin Notes with Mel Allen,
I mean I grew Look, I know, baseball not popular.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
Now, well done, well done? Who pulled that was that Mary.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
It was you could just when they played this music,
you knew, you knew you were going to get a
half hour of some serious baseball with Mel Allen and
the great voice he had. I don't know if there's
a lot of people that actually remember this show. Chris,
you do have to be pretty old for it. But
this was probably one of the first of maybe two
(01:26:01):
or three shows that I made like appointment television. Like
when and I think it was Saturday mornings when it
came out. I'm not I remember the exact time now,
but when it came on, I was watching This Week
in Baseball and I had to get twim notes, which
is this Week in Baseball and the notes, which was
at the end of the show or something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
But it was all the news.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Yeah, I had to get that, Chris. This this was
this was almost.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
I love to shake you with this, you know what
I mean? Yep, yep, I love the show. I want
let me see. I was trying to remember it, dude.
It was when I was a kid. Yeah, its final
episode was nineteen ninety eight, so.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Wow, if you went a while, yeah, if.
Speaker 3 (01:26:40):
You think like I was, I mean, I'm I was
born in seventy five, and there was no sit down kids.
We gotta have a go Let's have a little Arnie
and Chris Yellen Clouds talk. There was nothing else on TV.
You might get one baseball game a week, you might, right, exactly,
and this.
Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Week in baseball was before the one game I believe, yes, yeah,
and it was also uh, it was also awesome because
you didn't get highlights other than this, Other than this show.
You really didn't get baseball highlights back then, Chris none.
Speaker 3 (01:27:16):
And so I grew up in Saint Louis and we
had the Cardinals, well I claim Saint Louis. I grew
up in the metropolis of Wood River, Illinois. But you
would get you would even get the full Cardinal season
kpl R TV Channel eleven. Arnie would have Cardinal games
like every so often. It's oh, the Cards are on
TV tonight. So it shows you, in a very short
amount of time, how far things have gone, because that
(01:27:38):
wasn't too terribly longly.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
Yeah, my second yet.
Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
But I will say I'm a little bit disappointed on
your list that you went with your number one show.
Is the first thing that you give us, aren't you
supposed to go five four, three, two.
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
Yeah, yeah, I guess you could do that, but I
kind of just wanted to go one through five number two.
I don't know if there was even music for this
when they have to search it and do a quick
search for the music. It was back with Pat Summerle
and Tom Brookshire and it was called This Week in Football.
I thought it was like inside the NFL at one point,
but it was called This Week in Football, so I
(01:28:14):
may have wrote down the wrong thing. It was the
only time where you would get two shows. You would
either get the halftime or excuse me, you would get
the highlights of all the games for a half hour,
so you would wait for your team. You're like getting
that Dolphins playing the Raiders and you're like, oh yeah,
you get like three or four clips and you would
just it would be the best thing ever. And then
(01:28:36):
they'd give you a half hour and they would just
focus it on one game and get and if your
team happened to be the one game they focused it on,
oh you were in heaven, Chris, you were in heaven.
And these guys actually I think they lasted a long time.
This was also groundbreaking. I believe this was before the
Howard coseels and all that with the highlights. This was
(01:29:00):
the first show that you got to see all the
highlights and then the other half hour you got the
focus in on one games. And these guys were icons
in the broadcasting industry.
Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
You know this. This was a little bit before my time.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):
Oh really, but yeah, but I did find some audio
for you because ESPN Classic.
Speaker 1 (01:29:19):
Oh you guys beat me too. Yeah. This week in
Pro Football PATSA and Pat Summer all who was his
co host? What'd you say? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
Yeah, look at yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:29:30):
All right, so this week in baseball didn't this week
in football? In the Arnie Span your top five sports
TV shows of a whole time. I noticed that you're not.
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
Very current with a lot of these shows.
Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
Well then number three is Sports Center. Okay, not the
current Sports Center, but when it originally started, let's be honest,
the Sports Center was groundbreaking. There were TV shows, the
comedies that were written after Sports Center about them, and
look at all the people that started their careers. Everybody
would watch sports. I mean, you wanted to get all
(01:30:01):
the high whites. It was groundbreaking in so many ways.
So I'm not going to take that away from them.
It's not what it used to be, There's no doubt
about that. But but Sports Center to me was the
was the big thing. I think everybody growing up and
listening right now is like, yeah, we all grew up
on Sports Center.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
Yeah yeah, Dan Patrick and Keith Oberman, I love. My
favorite Sports Center anchor of all time was.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Craig Kilburn back really yet when I was in college
he was He went on to do what like comedy stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:30:29):
Right well, he did that. He was the first host
of The Daily.
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
Show right right exactly, and then he had Craig Kilbourne
after dark or at a talk show.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
But I loved him. His little thing was Jubanji.
Speaker 3 (01:30:39):
When they would make a play and I would, you know,
maybe back in the day, already have a few libations
in me and that would be just what I'd be
yelling while we were playing Papa Shot or something. But
I hate what it is now because now it's like, Okay,
who can try to be the better stand up comedian
Skeyvin peltzowsome. Obviously this is to me leaving that out,
but every other thing is just I've got to have
someone preaching to me. I got to have someone trying
(01:31:01):
to be funny. I don't even watch it hardly at
all anymore. I will I'll put it on over a
debate show, that's for sure, but I hardly ever watch.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
All Right, it's not what it does.
Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
I don't think it gets the the viewers like it
used to.
Speaker 3 (01:31:14):
Van Pelton maybe, but all right, so you got this
week in baseball, this week in football Sports Center, what's
your number four?
Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
Number four? I didn't know if this is really the
same topic, but I put Howard Cosel and the halftime
my lights only because it was so iconic segment.
Speaker 1 (01:31:29):
It's your segment. You can do whatever you want.
Speaker 2 (01:31:31):
I mean, people really Chris, and you're like, oh, what's
the big deal? So they ran a few halftime highlights.
That was pretty much the only time so you could
see highlights like that, and it was it was voiced
over by Howard Cosal, so you wanted to hear what
he had to say. And of course it was on
the Monday night football game, which was the biggest game
of the week. It seemed like when that was going on.
(01:31:52):
So that was that was I mean, Mike Goodness, you
talk about wanting to see what was going on. You
didn't change the chatnel or go to the bathroom or
get a sandwich. During that time you sat there and
watched the halftime highlights with our go Sell that that
was a must watch thing.
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
You know, again, gotta take your word for it a
little bit before my time.
Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
Really, what year was our Gozell?
Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
Well, I mean, I'm sure he was doing the games,
but not not to degree why I remember him. But
by the time I'm watching, it was always h it
was just Frank Gifford. I mean really, Cosell died in
ninety five, for goodness sakes, and his last year at
ABC was eighty five. So I mean, you're you're going
back now almost forty years from the last time that
he was even on TV.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
So do people listening right now know who Hoard go
Sell is?
Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
I'm sure they do, especially if you're anywhere near a
Boom or a gen X or you obviously know now
maybe some of the gin whis and gen Z. It's
a little different, a little different.
Speaker 1 (01:32:48):
Ornie.
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
I don't even know who that is there.
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
You Mary doesn't know who it is. You marry gen
Z gen Z. Yeah she'll have no clue. But yeah, uh,
first time in fifteen years at American Foot was broadcast
weekly in prime time. Nineteen seventy, Howard Cosell was part
of the first Monday Night Football Booth with Frank Gifford
and NND it on Meredith.
Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
Andy Don that's for sure, all right. He used to
thing like turn out the lights the parties over. Yes, yeah,
see that when the game was over.
Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
So finally on he number five for you, this is
the top TV shows? With Barkley retiring, does one of
his shows make the list?
Speaker 2 (01:33:27):
And that's gonna be inside the NBA. OKAYDNT so I
did put him at number five. It is an enjoyable show.
I like the way they're open and honest and they
bust on each other and stuff like that. I think
it's got great rapport, They've got great chemistry. It is,
you know, I must watch for a lot of people,
and I put them in number five for my list
(01:33:50):
the top five.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
Okay, A couple just real quick in jotting this down
and thinking about this segment, could not agree with you.
More about this week in baseball that show Growing Up.
Notice no wrestling, so it's not included in this list,
right well? Class Championship wrestling.
Speaker 2 (01:34:06):
Okay, I didn't put that in there.
Speaker 1 (01:34:09):
No, Roy Firestone.
Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
I mean the Roy Firestone Interview show was pretty awesome
back and then.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
It was I forget the up Was it up close?
Speaker 1 (01:34:16):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
No, it wasn't that.
Speaker 1 (01:34:17):
It was that was what it was called, up close
with Roy Firestone?
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
Right, yeah, no he was. No, you're right about that.
It was a big show.
Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
Have you ever seen Roy Firestone speak at an event before? No?
I have not.
Speaker 3 (01:34:28):
Okay, different will my man? My man sings, he's got
a hold. We went and saw my buddys.
Speaker 1 (01:34:34):
I did too.
Speaker 3 (01:34:35):
He was great, But it was something else. Whenever you
go and you someone something about my career, guys are
just it's really special. I feel like it's I feel
like it's mine, Like what the hell just happened here?
He literally sings and has bits whatever he's doing is uh,
I guess his appearances.
Speaker 1 (01:34:51):
It completely threw me off.
Speaker 4 (01:34:53):
But that was a beautiful. No, thank you, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:34:56):
Pulled that out of my hand.
Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Yeah, that was very beautiful.
Speaker 1 (01:34:58):
And then finally.
Speaker 3 (01:34:58):
Already no hard knocks here any of the football shows
or did they not fall into this category?
Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
No, No, hard Knocks is not as iconic as the
five I just gave you. Matter of fact, years from now,
we won't think of hard knocks at all. And it's
oh no, it doesn't even.
Speaker 1 (01:35:12):
I mean, nobody thinks of this week in baseball outside
of you and I.
Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
Well, that's just because of the old people. Actually, if
you check our Twitter account, they're starting to come in
a lot of people's they they loved this week in baseball.
They don't remember Melowen. I think that's a little too
before their time, but they certainly remember this week in baseball.
Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
I like your idea of a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
Someone sent to Fred McGriff meme and Eric be says
he remembers watching it so too.
Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
Two people have your back on this one, aren't he.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
I'll take it. I'll tell you you know what he
just said to the George Michaels Sports Machine didn't make
the list, you know. I gotta tell you, I used
to love that show. He pressed a button and the
highlights with run. I remember sending him a letter looking
for a job after college, so and actually got something
back from him. But yeah, he was like, no disrespect.
(01:36:02):
We never had George Michael's sports Machine. That was something
for me.
Speaker 3 (01:36:07):
Yeah, I don't ever remember watching it whenever I was
younger because it was big time. Yeah, we had the
Sunday night or we didn't have even the Sunday night shows.
I would watch my uh I mean listen, I was
still a kid, but we'd watch the Sunday News or whatever.
And then I don't I don't ever remember George Michael's
Sports Machine being a thing.
Speaker 1 (01:36:24):
Was it a.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
National show or national show? Oh no, what are you
talking about it? And he goes, let's go to the highlights,
and he'd walk over to like a tape recording type
of te thing and he'd hit the.
Speaker 3 (01:36:36):
Button there you go, oh wow, it was. That's not
too terribly long ago. If it's Bill Parcels and the Jets.
Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
I don't know this. The one that pulled up is
from nineteen ninety seven.
Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
Okay, really yeah, I don't remember this.
Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
I don't remember ever one.
Speaker 6 (01:36:54):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
I knew George Michael on KNT the George Michael Sports Machine,
but I don't remember ever.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
Watching this is the would lot you walk over and
you press the button. You know, it was like you
know a little uh.
Speaker 1 (01:37:04):
You have to watch sports. You only watch sports that
you care about. You watched it. You gotta watch all
of them if you were George Michael, you.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
Pretend like you're starting the highlights. I love that show.
It really was a good show.
Speaker 3 (01:37:14):
It airs a couple of quick ones here before we
break ahead news, right, come on, Arnie. The original home
Run Derby syndicated show from Wrigley Field, the program that
launched the Aunts All Star contest. How can you leave
it out?
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
I don't remember that show, do you?
Speaker 9 (01:37:29):
So?
Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
That show wrote here's it was black and white, right,
and it was from wrigley Field, Okay, and it got
a second It kind of got a second chance at life,
if you will. And I remember watching it whenever I
was in college because it would be on in the afternoon.
An ESPN Classic would air, and I think you guys
can correct me if I'm wrong. I think even regular
ESPN would air some of it and they would show
(01:37:51):
would be like, all right, we got Ernie Banks versus
Willie Mays today. I mean, it would be awesome and
it would be the home Run Derby and it would
just be a TV show and they get I think
ten swings and you'd have a host.
Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
It was pretty that's a good that's a good pool
from a head News.
Speaker 2 (01:38:05):
By the way, Jason B. Diamond did send one in
that I left off that maybe should have made my
top five. I know they're iconic. And that's the CNN's
Sports Show, Oh, Fred Hickman and Nick Charles, which was
pre Sports Center, you know the then they went up
against Sports Center, but I believe that was pre Sports Center.
And you have to watch what nineteen passed the hour
(01:38:27):
and forty nine to get the score time. I gotta
get the scores there? How are you gonna get the
scores Gregia, when like you look on your phone or
anything like that, you have to you have to make
sure you watch CNN at nineteen and forty.
Speaker 1 (01:38:38):
Nine er and then you want to go even further.
What was it? Was it seen in headline news that
used to scroll the scores? Right?
Speaker 3 (01:38:45):
And that came later though well not not too terribly
much later, right, because I can remember my freshman year
in college. Tulsa where I went to school, played at
Iowa and we were trying to get the score of
the game. The radio network had signed off. It wasn't
a time where you can text someone me like here
are you at the game. So we're literally sitting there,
Arnie watching scene in the headline news waiting for the
(01:39:07):
score to come across the bottom of it. That's the
only way you could get a score. They're like, oh
my gosh, what was the score?
Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
Did we win? How do we do?
Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
And then when you saw the score, they're like, oh gosh, okay,
so it was close.
Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
How do we lose? It's crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
We a pretty well. We had the you know you
you dial the phone and get scores that way, and
they charge it like an arm leg to gainst scores.
Speaker 10 (01:39:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
I got in trouble for that one and a couple
of other nine hundred numbers you could call. But yeah,
the CNN Sports show Fred Hickman and Nick Charles, that
was pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
They were They were pretty I don't even know if
I don't think they're both around it anymore, but they geez,
they were great. They were iconic.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
Mike White right, call butt head out, Arnie, I have
a name. Michael Keith Jackson was first. Then Monday Night
Football Booth. But Hated Howard, Okay, great, finish your sitting's there, dope,
and then you can.
Speaker 1 (01:39:52):
Call me.
Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
Hated Howard and they, Hey, if you're dumb enough where
you can't finish your tweet, don't try to call someone.
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
A lot of people, you know, the United people in
the US, half of them did hate Howard co Sala.
Speaker 1 (01:40:05):
It wasn't really he was the villain.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
Yeah, he was more.
Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
You guys think you hate anyone in sports media today?
Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
You think Skip Bayless?
Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
Do you think you hate Skip Bayless? You think you
can't stand Colin or No.
Speaker 2 (01:40:17):
No, this dude was despised for no reason whatsoever. It
wasn't like he was doing a sports show or anything
like that. He was doing the play by play. It
was was like he was given his opinion or anything
to that matter.
Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
And then Julian writes, I will never forget about this
week in baseball. I loved it when now mel Allen
would say how about that?
Speaker 1 (01:40:37):
Yeah? And then the twin notes were.
Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
Always, if I remember correctly, they were like either a
stat or they were in rumor or something that was
going on, Yeah, because we were just so thirsty for
any kind of inside information that you never got.
Speaker 1 (01:40:49):
You never got at that time.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
No, the only time you get stuff like that is
when you have to read the sports page and you
would ask your dad for that one page with all
the box scores and you stare at that for like
a yeah, half hour or something.
Speaker 3 (01:41:01):
All right, quick break, you guys want to jump in
on Arnie's list of the best sports shows of all time,
you can do it. It's stinking genius one. I'm at
Plank Show. Everyone should follow us at Fox Sports Radio.
This is as Arnie's hat tip to Charles Barkley announcing
his retirement after next year. This week in baseball, this
week in football Sports Center, the Howard Cosell halftime highlights,
(01:41:22):
which I don't really know if we're calling that a show,
but you were eloquent and laying out It's what everyone
looked forward to.
Speaker 1 (01:41:27):
A number five inside the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
And somebody said, what about the sports reporters by Dick Shop.
Oh yeah, that's a good shout out about that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
There was also one where they would always fight and
they would smoke cigars. I think that was like a
Chicago based show. Actually, all right, quick break, we'll talk
about this. And by the way, we had a lot
go on. We had WNBA news, and I know how
much you guys love to talk about the w NBA,
so we'll dive into it next on Fox Sports Radio.
(01:41:55):
We're coming to you live from the Tirack dot Com Studios.
Arion Patrick, running the show to Sagar's got his final
update of the evening coming up here in about five
minutes from now.
Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
I'm ready for the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
Yes, I've noticed that every rundown now the last few weeks,
you've had the Olympics somewhere in the Roman numeral.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
I know, you just you're just not into it. You're
not getting into it.
Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
Well, I mean, what are you into? What are you
excited about?
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
Have no idea?
Speaker 1 (01:42:21):
Yeah, you got to.
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
You gotta give me the storylines of the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (01:42:26):
Yeah, you don't want to have to read or dig
into it. You want them to tell you all about it, right, And.
Speaker 2 (01:42:30):
That's what they're paying all that money for. So let's
let's go ahead and get into it. Let's have some fun.
I do like the Olympics. I do watch sports that
I have no business watching or that I have no
interest in whatsoever. But they make it interesting and you're
rooting for your country, so you're checking it out. And
it's on so many channels too, so it's like ten
(01:42:53):
different channels. So you can't help, but you know, pass
it by.
Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
I mean I can go through some of these storylines here.
I mean, are you really want to go that in
depth on it?
Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
It's no, no, no, I don't want to get down
in depth. Don't don't make it too much on that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Let's well, I mean, women's gymnastics looks to be pretty solid.
Katie Ludeki is rolling and swimming. I guess Sidney McLoughlin
larone and Noah Lyle's little sprint resurgence for the US.
Speaker 1 (01:43:21):
We have to we just care about basketball. Just be
honest here, you only care about Olympic basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
No, we have a girl up here from Vermont that's
a marathon or oh really.
Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
This is this is a great addition to our Olympic segment. Hey, Mary,
play the Olympic music.
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
All right, I'm just gonna take There's a girl here
that's front is. I forgot her name. It's just it
was on the tip of my You didn't even think about.
Speaker 3 (01:43:44):
Say, okay, let's see here what I can find out.
Let's see if I can find this out before you
can remember it. There's this magic machine called.
Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
Nig very good too. She's like top one or two
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
Olympic marathon are from Vermont. Yeah, Ellie period ye, there
you go.
Speaker 2 (01:44:00):
At least a pa.
Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
It took one freaking Google search we to find this out.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
Well, I didn't want to Google it. I didn't have
time for that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
So meanwhile, we got some good stuff on Twitter. To
the other story that you brought up to start the
show off, start hour three off, I should say your
top TV show sports TV shows in honor of Charles
Barkley announcing his retirement after the end of the twenty
twenty five NBA season.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
Somebody brought up a good point about that about Howard
Cosell when we were going through our list Howard Cosell,
but also had the announcement of the passing of the
shooting of John Lennon. Remember that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:34):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, we just had the anniversary of
that this year. We talked about it on this show.
Thanks for listening. Doug rides Cosselle was hated by ninety
five percent of sports fans because his IQ was fifty
points higher than people who watched sports and college wards.
Gave those people a headache, much like Dennis Miller when
he did Money Night Football.
Speaker 2 (01:44:52):
Yeah, I don't think that is. Miller was a good yer.
Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
I don't think that was And.
Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Also I had news sense another show in how about
Inside the NFL with One Dawson Chris collins Worth of
Nick Botokhani. Yeah, that was a must watch too on HBO.
Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
That was the show that we got. That was the
show that I remember watching whenever I was younger. It
might have been when we first got HBO two. So
that was that was the first thing for me. A
couple of others here real quick, DJ baby O. Right,
So I remember I remember my dad watching Notre Dame
Highlights on Sunday morning with Lindsey Nelson doing the play
by play. The show was only one hour and you
would hear lindsay say, now we moved to further action. Yeah,
(01:45:32):
it's like there's there's a designated SportsCenter anchor who is
always the we now move ahead in the broadcast, like
my man Darry Noka might be that sometimes where it's like,
we now move ahead further in the broadcast due to
time constraints. High five Media Rites Twip great This Week
in Baseball was a great show, just like Inside the NFL.
(01:45:53):
But what about wide World of Sports? The ski Jump
Fail still one of the best videos.
Speaker 2 (01:45:58):
Ever, iconic icy agony of defeat right that's more about
the beginning of it. I mean, yes, we watched sports
on that that was like pre Olympic time, you know
what I mean, you watched the wide world of sports
sports that you didn't really get into. But yeah, that
was certainly an iconic no doubt about that.
Speaker 3 (01:46:16):
Yeah, I mean wide World of Sports would have things
like like NASCAR, they would have things that hadn't quite
received Mainstine cover exactly, and then they'd have celebrity things
out of know, it's like why am I watching Burt
Reynolds swim the one hundred meter relay or something? But
that's what they had, So it's good list. It was
a good list, Arnie. I I felt like it was
an A plus list, And I honestly there wasn't really
(01:46:37):
anything that I've seen around like, oh dang, that's a
huge omission from it. Maybe the sports reporters that was
always great because that was kind of the debate radio
TV before there was debate.
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
I was okay, that was okay, you know, I didn't
put in any of the around the horn or anything
like that. You know, they were kind of groundbreaking in
their ways too.
Speaker 3 (01:46:56):
PTI is the only one that I think could be
in that conversation. I was thinking of about that also. Yeah,
I think it's the only one that can. Everything else
is a byproduct of that.
Speaker 2 (01:47:03):
And real quick, do you see Charlie that just said
that I do want to give I Do you want
you to read that? I don't know if you saw
that one that came in.
Speaker 1 (01:47:10):
We'll read it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
Hey, Arnie, do you remember Van er ol Wright hosting
some of CNN's eleven o'clock sports show. He had the
exaggerated voice when narrating home runs. Yeah, he used to go,
uh Van all right, CNA head Light Sports. He I
believe he passed away not too long ago, Chris, but
he was he was good. I liked him a lot.
(01:47:33):
I liked Vanner a lot. There's no doubt I think
he would.
Speaker 1 (01:47:36):
Dude, he's still alive.
Speaker 3 (01:47:38):
He just did a show on Fox Sports Radio like
ten fifteen years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
I'm sorry, Van, sorry, still very much alive. Maybe doing
golf now. Maybe I got him mixed up. I'm it's okay, though, good,
You're okay, Van.
Speaker 1 (01:47:55):
He is good to go, making good to go.
Speaker 3 (01:47:58):
Steve de Seger is as well, and he's got the
latest trending updates.
Speaker 8 (01:48:02):
Rights Okay, my goodness, he was in this chair like
fifteen twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
That's a long time ago.
Speaker 8 (01:48:08):
Okay, maybe twenty years ago, like Ben Mallar, and I
don't know who else was here, probably Eddie yep. But
I love the Notre Dame reference because they did always
have to squeeze the games into an hour. We now
go further into the action it was. It was Lindsay Nelson, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
Davis is deep at the three yard line, AAVI to
the five fifteen twenty.
Speaker 8 (01:48:33):
Remember the game of the Coliseum.
Speaker 12 (01:48:35):
Anthony Davis goes nuts on Notre Dame ran back the
opening kickoffs. Yeah, exactly, the comeback. And there was, by
the way, a Roy Firestone appearance on the Dan Patrick
Show in recent years, and we got this.
Speaker 1 (01:48:52):
Hello everybody, I'm Howard coat Sell. Without further ado, that's
the open belt.
Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
Oh that's awesome that.
Speaker 8 (01:49:01):
That was the interview show on Cable four years. Roy
Firestone definitely.
Speaker 1 (01:49:05):
One other thing.
Speaker 8 (01:49:06):
The home run Derby was at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles.
It was a minor league baseball stadium on the other
side of the freeway from the LA Coliseum. Why you
say was it called Wrigley Field. Yeah, same reason that
Chicago's cub stadium is called Wrigley Field. He owned the Cubs,
He owned their minor league affiliate, the La Angels of
(01:49:28):
the Pacific Coast League.
Speaker 1 (01:49:29):
You're telling me that wasn't actually at Wrigley Field.
Speaker 8 (01:49:32):
That was at Wrigley Field, the minor league stadium in
Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (01:49:36):
They they never made that clarification.
Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
Everybody knew that though.
Speaker 8 (01:49:42):
They used to fly the players into Los Angeles at
this ballpark that had been built thirty five years before
and it was on its last legs. In fact, Wriggly
bought Catalina Island off the coast of La roughly that
time and had the Cubs have spring train on the island,
which you can still take a boat to and be
(01:50:04):
a tourist at these days. And for years Cub spring
training was at Catalina Island.
Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (01:50:10):
So the people at Saber, the sports baseball history people say,
in nineteen sixty, which was the year they used to
film this black and white home Run Derby contest, the
world series share for the winner was eight four hundred dollars.
For home Run Derby. You'd get two thousand dollars just
winning an episode and the loser would get a thousand bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:50:33):
If you're talking about games like that, nothing beats the
NBA when they used to play one on one.
Speaker 8 (01:50:38):
Yes, when there was a Sunday CBS NBA game, they
would have taped one on one battles Jeff Petrie against
whomever else.
Speaker 2 (01:50:47):
Jeff Petree won the whole thing.
Speaker 8 (01:50:49):
Yeah, I hope Pete Maravich was on one of those.
I would love to see clips. I have seen clips
of that. I have seen clips of the This Week
in Pro Football that used to be syndicated on the
weekend because NFL Network years ago showed early nineteen seventies
highlights showing that show narrated by Pat summerle Tom Brookshire.
It was great, by the way, on Home Run Derby. Also,
(01:51:12):
if you could go hit three straight home runs in
the contest without making it out, you get a five
hundred dollars bonus. And that was the perfect part to.
Speaker 2 (01:51:21):
Be hitting in. Yes, the Sacred you know what show
I didn't put in there, which maybe should have made
it Sports Challenge. Remember Sports Challenge.
Speaker 8 (01:51:28):
Dick Enberg, Oh the show.
Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
Yeah, that was a big time.
Speaker 1 (01:51:33):
They would bring.
Speaker 8 (01:51:34):
In champions of Yes, the Packers against the Yankees, Yes,
players from old teams and have them be the contestants.
As dick Enberg hosted a quiz.
Speaker 2 (01:51:45):
Show, how great was that? It was great?
Speaker 8 (01:51:48):
By the way that Wrigley Field, Los Angeles, it was
three hundred and forty feet the distance down the left
field line, but left center field it was only three
forty five. So since the next year the Angels got
an American League team, they played one season at that
same place where home run Derby was made, and they
set the major league record because about two hundred and
(01:52:10):
fifty home runs in one season were hit at that
one ballpark. And by the way, there was, as you
could see on the show, a neighborhood just beyond the
left field wall looked like half trailer park. And I'm
sure the residents probably were not happy with them taping
two shows a day in nineteen sixty where the entire
point of the show is to hit a ball at
(01:52:31):
the houses. The Angels, after that first year at Wrigley
Field in LA, moved to Dodger Stadium for four seasons.
They actually played home games at Dodger Stadium, but refused
to call it Dodger Stadium, so they always had their
home games at quote Chavez Ravine, and then Anaheim Stadium
was built and they moved down to Orange County. The
Dodgers were winners today three nothing over Kansas City. Mookie
(01:52:54):
Betts of La broke his hand on a hit by pitch.
You'll see a hand specialist tomorrow. Shoheo Tani had two
home runs in this game. He has nineteen. The win
to Tyler glassnow seven innings, nine strikeouts. Tonight Boston beat
the Yankees nine three Red Sox with nine stolen bases,
all against the same catcher, Jose Travino Aaron Judge with
his twenty sixth homer. He has sixty four RBIs Minnesota,
(01:53:16):
after a rainout yesterday at home, swept a double header
against Oakland six to two and eight to seven. So
the A's have lost nine in a row. The White
Sox record is nineteen and fifty four. After losing twelve
to five at Arizona, Saint Louis won two to one
at the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago. The save to
Ryan Helsley, his twenty fourth of the year. Already, Baltimore
(01:53:37):
beat Philadelphia and Zach Wheeler eight to three. Mets won
their fifth in a row, eleven to six over the
Padres Houston a four to one winner against Detroit College.
World Series victories for Florida State and Tennessee. The NBA
Finals continue Monday. WNBA Indiana over Chicago Caitlin Clark twenty
three points. Bryson Deshambo took the US Open by one
(01:53:58):
stroke over Rory mc roy. Birmingham won the UFL Football Championship.
Euro Soccer wins for England and Netherlands. NASCAR victory at
Iowa tonight for Ryan Blaney and guys. There is no
Field of Dreams MLB game in Iowa anymore. Instead, this
Thursday night on Fox TV, a game from historic Rickwood
(01:54:19):
Field in Birmingham. Ticketed capacity will be about eighty three
hundred Giants against the Cardinals at a place where a
teenage Willie Mays played in center field for the Birmingham
Black Bearons nineteen forty eight as they played in the
final Negro League World Series. In fact, that team in
the Negro Leagues played there for nearly four decades, starting
(01:54:39):
in nineteen twenty four. All living Negro League players have
been invited to this game on Thursday, and at least
sixty are confirmed to attend.
Speaker 1 (01:54:47):
All that to Steve, have a great week, man.
Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
I can't wait to tell Steve I heard I heard
you guys talking about it with Mark and Ephram and
even that they were trying to do the tickets to
make them affordable. And what'd you find to Saga on
the set candary market, like six hundred bucks?
Speaker 8 (01:55:02):
Yes, you could sit at the right field foul poll
for like four hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:55:07):
Jeez, so much for keeping them low key price wise.
All right, I have a great week. That's Steve the Seger,
all right, when we come back, it's what you all
came forward to. Yes, Arnie's picks, I don't know what
he's picking. Whatever you read hot Pacers in seven is
one that you're read hot on. We'll dive into Arnie's
predictions for the week ahead, plus a couple of final thoughts.
(01:55:28):
There's a few Roman numerals I wrote down that we
still need to get to next right here on Fox
Sports Radio, Fun Show tonight, Fast Show tonight, Oh yeah,
quick time pending, we'll get to a few more of
your tweets. Great great interaction to especially whenever we got
into your favorite shows. A little hackey, but I'm here
(01:55:49):
for it. Very awesome on the music all night long. Patrick,
great job hooking us up with topics and guests, and
it's always Steve Sager crushing it on updates as well
as the millions and millions of editors behind the scenes
carving up the audio for this three hour swore every
single Sunday night. Is this week the week that win
for Jason and Micro?
Speaker 1 (01:56:08):
Is that next week? No, we're in week from Friday, right.
Speaker 2 (01:56:11):
Right, a week from Friday. We're filling in for the guys.
Speaker 1 (01:56:14):
Everything kind of ran to gather this past week. For me,
I'm going this week.
Speaker 2 (01:56:18):
Are you really yeah to a Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
Watch your son play or just for that? Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:56:22):
No, we're just gonna We're gonna see my mother in law.
So we're gonna go for a short time.
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
Your mother in law lives in Canada.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
No, we we have a beach house there.
Speaker 1 (01:56:30):
See. I knew that your wife was rich. I knew it.
I knew that you were Ah.
Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
She was rich. Yeah, but she's but but my mother
in law is still alive. She's spending my inheritance.
Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
I think we should get to the picks quickly, take
it away, staking.
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
Take that out of the podcast. Please, let's get to
the NBA Finals. Game number five gonna be tomorrow, and
guess what. The Baths are gonna win it one O eight,
one O six, which means game six going back to Dallas.
The MAVs will win Game six, and that means game
seven back in Boston, so at least it's gonna go
(01:57:09):
seven games out there. By the way, Florida is going
to win fourd to one over Edmonton, so finish off
that series. University of Tennessee Baseball will win it all,
so I'm gonna go with them. So let's see how
they do in the NCAA World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:57:26):
I just this is my favorite part of your picks, right,
you know nothing about Tennessee baseball, fact that they've won
their first two games.
Speaker 2 (01:57:33):
And the centerfielder had two good catches.
Speaker 3 (01:57:37):
But yeah, you're gonna go ahead and slam Dunk picked
them based on let's go, let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:57:44):
And one prediction I can tell you. Unfortunately, I'm gonna
have to tell you I since you guys all tweeted
our update guy Brian Finley, he invited me to his
East Coast wedding. I thought you guys were kidding about
this West Coast.
Speaker 3 (01:58:00):
Easier, the one that opened your mouth and wanted to
get invited. Now you gotta go.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
No, Unfortunately I can't go that weekend. It's a seven
hour drive. Can't drive seven hours. So, like the Hamptons
and Long Island, that's very food fool for me. I'm
very fool foolish, you know, I understand. So there you
have my picks. Do with them as you please, no
longer strictly for the table purposes only.
Speaker 1 (01:58:21):
I mean, I got it. How many people get married
and have separate weddings on both coasts?
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
What is up with that? You can make just do
fifty states. We're gonna be doing the Alabama wedding this weekend, so.
Speaker 3 (01:58:33):
It come to Oklahoma and expect me to do something
for him? Amazing, exactly doing that?
Speaker 2 (01:58:38):
What the hell's going on here?
Speaker 1 (01:58:40):
Jeez?
Speaker 3 (01:58:40):
All right, a couple of quick tweets before we get
out of here. Reminder the show never stops on extra
Twitter at Stinking Genius one at Plank Show, and everybody
should be following us at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
Jason B.
Speaker 3 (01:58:52):
Diamond Rights, I'm doing some research now in vaner Ol Wright,
who is actually really close to the same age as Arnie. Oh, oh,
great job by Mary finding this week in Baseball theme.
Speaker 1 (01:59:03):
She is the consummate professional.
Speaker 4 (01:59:05):
Of course, you guys know, I got you. Guys.
Speaker 3 (01:59:07):
Yeah, that sounds like even though somebody ruined her life
tonight by telling her she sounds older than she.
Speaker 10 (01:59:12):
Actually, yeah, I'm not even like. I'm not upset that
I sound like Beth. It's just the fact that I.
Speaker 4 (01:59:16):
Sound older than that. Don't listen to that I being
a kid or semi kid.
Speaker 3 (01:59:23):
Baker rights. You know what they say, guys. The only
thing worse than track is field hashtag Olympics. Actually peg
gets half the track and field. I had news right
the old Battle of the Network Stars. Could this ever
happen today?
Speaker 2 (01:59:34):
No, Oh, that'd be great though. I'd be all in
on watching Battle of the Network Stars. That was a
big thing at watching that Maybe on the cover of
the cover of TV Guide. Gabe Caplan was always in
the Battle of the Network Stars. It must must have
needed the money.
Speaker 9 (01:59:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
Was Welcome back Cotter a big deal while he was Oh,
while he was on the Stars?
Speaker 2 (01:59:55):
Mongous? You know what he did have to welcome back Cotter? Right?
Poker and what else he became. He was the first
sports talk show host in La I.
Speaker 3 (02:00:03):
Believe, really, look at you making up something that you
don't have any factions anyway?
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
Yeah with the hell.
Speaker 3 (02:00:08):
The funny thing to me is, I could imagine now
every single one of these would be someone who used
to be famous. It's like Welcome to Battle with the
Network stars, starring Mario Lopez, the guy from nine O
two and oh well he's.
Speaker 2 (02:00:21):
Pretty though Mario Opez wasn't nine O two.
Speaker 3 (02:00:24):
One oh close close, He was in Saved by the Bell.
Sharon Rights, I gotta admit I found Howard Cosell insufferable,
but I just had to deal with it. On football,
I couldn't take it. In boxing, I always end up
turning it down. Lawrence text cob was.
Speaker 2 (02:00:40):
The reason why Howard goes Sell quit boxing?
Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:00:42):
Was it really why I got beat the hell up
that with that fight?
Speaker 3 (02:00:45):
Oh? I saw much damage you did, ye, Lawrence Wrights.
You guys are forgetting the George Michaels sports machine, but
don't confuse it with the guy from Wham. Now listen, Okay,
let's get this right before we go. George Michael was Wham.
The other guy was the other guy from Wham. Okay,
make sure you'll get it straight. Whenever we're talking about
George Michael R. I P and then Eric B writes,
(02:01:07):
I still remember tuning into this Week in Baseball as
a Reds Fantasy highlights of Tom Severs.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
No, we hit her with the Reds although it was
three day old news. I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (02:01:18):
Hey, Arnie, you have a great week. Man, enjoy Canada
for the entire crew. I'm Chris Plank. You guys have
a great start to your week. Big Ben Malors next
on Fox Sports Radio.
