Speaker 3 (00:32):
Today it's a historic day.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Because you're wearing a new polo because normally, in fact,
every single show that I've done with Montsey, in fact,
every single Saturday show that I have done here at
Fox Sports Radio for the last oh, I don't know,
three years, I've worn the exact same UCLA shirt on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
That's my Saturday shirt, and then Sunday I have another
shirt I wear every single Sunday. Right, But on Father's
Day I got two new shirts from my kids. So
the way I work at Montsi is I don't add shirts,
I replace shirts, do you. So I threw away the
Sunday shirt that I that's gone. And then there was
another shirt that I wore that's gone, and so now

(01:17):
I'm worried this will be my new Saturday shirt.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
It's not how it works.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
And then the UCLA shirt where I wear my NFL
cap will be now my Sunday shirt.

Speaker 6 (01:27):
So your shirts are not supposed to be like uniforms
that you wear on specific single days.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
You know there's.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
Uniform, you're supposed to change it up and switch it around.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Okay. When I was married, I get it, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I used to say, if you want me to look nice,
then pick stuff out, because I don't have any concept
of clothing at all.

Speaker 6 (01:51):
Right, but your kids gave you two shirts and you
threw other ones out. You want to throw the other
ones out?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Gone?

Speaker 6 (01:56):
You're supposed to now have a bigger wardrobe.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I have six shirts. How many days in the week
are there?

Speaker 6 (02:04):
So which which would you wear twice? Or do you
go shirtless on one day?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
No? One day is a sweats and a T shirt day?
Got it all right? So that and by the way,
I only have three T shirts?

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Got okay?

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Sweats? I mean, I'm a minimalist. But it's about order,
it's about making sense. Monsie.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Yes, no, I know it is. You're not making sense.
We're on the same page.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Let me ask you this. You're a man shot.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Is he a clothes guy?

Speaker 5 (02:31):
He is a clothes guy.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Like he'll go shopping for his own clothes.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
He will, But he's he's very particular.

Speaker 6 (02:39):
He likes nice T shirts, even though they're simple that
he likes a nicer one.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
He likes nicer brand, tight ice, no tight eye. I
don't think wear a tight eye. I could probably get
him to wear a pink shirt.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Could he wear Hawaiian shirts?

Speaker 5 (02:56):
He would not.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
In the nineties, after I got married my father in law,
who would have been ninety two today, by the way,
the Great Dave Marrimani's he wore these Hawaiian shirts a lot.
So of course his daughter, my wife, yes, decided that's
the way.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
I'm you're supposed to dress, got it?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
So I had a lot of these Hawaiian shirts back
in the nineties. So anywhere fun.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Not against the Hawaiian shirt.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
I would love for you to wear one and bring
one in maybe on a Saturday instead of now this
new Paulo that I'm.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Going to see every Saturday.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Is what you're telling me You're going to see this
every Saturday. And how do you know this?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, every single show, of course, Moncey posts a picture
of the two of us that gets a lot of
you know, followings, and I mean I triple my followings
overnight just with those pictures.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
You're welcome and thank you very much.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
I a big fan of those pictures, Yes he is.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
And so anyway, it's a good way to start the day.
Big Saturday.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Right now, we're not gonna have Adam Kaplan or NFL
insider on today.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
He has some business to do.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
But honestly, the only thing I would have asked him
is about Bill Belichick dating a twenty four year old
whether or not this hell or hurts him, you know,
in future interviews for head coaching jobs in the NFL,
he could do.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Whatever he wants. Sid is Bill Belichick.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
I understand the question if he was like a normal person, Yes,
How does this affect the perspective people have on you?
I think the perspective people have on Belichick is already
there and nothing is changing. Like I feel like this
story came out and people were like, okay, you know, like.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Nobody was well, I mean, we've already seen him drag
himself naked.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, the Walk of Shame.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
Video game, which is supposed to be her house. We
just didn't know. That's that's what I read.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Oh really, yeah, so that's where she lived.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
That's what I read.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
It's going to be a major upgrade for her, major upgrade.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
Yes, So that video from months ago apparently was where.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah, because they first met when she was twenty one.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Oh oh, he didn't rush into anything. They took their time,
They got to know each other.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
So you know, he's.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Good someone that has a daughter that's only a year
apo in his girlfriend and he's considerably older than me.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah. I have a hard time with that. I really would.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
Do you now feel the need to have to tell
your daughter something that you think is obvious?

Speaker 7 (05:11):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Because I showed her the picture and her reaction was
the same as ninety nine point.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Of girls her.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Age, like, yeah, yeah, there's definitely a ew.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
That's a big oh factor.

Speaker 8 (05:25):
Right.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
So the NBA season is over, Montcy.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You went out on the limbs, yes, six weeks ago,
picking the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA Championship.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
They came up short.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Last week, of course, we were talking about the possibility
of them extending the series. They crushed the Celtics in
Game four at home, and my reaction to that loss
was as well, as Dallas played a team desperate, Boston
mailed it in. Now you're playing with fire when you're
doing something like that. In fact, we'll talk about what's

(05:55):
going on with the Stanley Cup final, because all of
a sudden that's gone to a game seven. But as
far as the NBA Finals are concerned, we saw Boston
dominate from the opening tip off to win their championship.
So I found this is the thing I really found
interesting Montsi because as soon as the game's over, everyone's like, oh,
is this the first of many championships?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
You know, this is a team that did it right.
They built from you know, corps and everything else.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
I'm like, isn't that exactly what we said about Denver
last year? Ye that they built through the draft, kept
their nucleus together, made the step moves, made a couple
of moves, you know, stuck with the same coach and
everything else, and then eventually they won a championship. I
was one of those about in with Denver a year ago,
thinking this is a team that could win multiple championships.

(06:45):
And then this year happened, and you just saw Denver
sort of in and out of it all year long,
like they seemed motivated some games, other games they were
mailing in, and then it all came down to sort
of mailing in against Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
We'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Game seven at home, you blow it twenty point ly
in the third quarter, and your season is over. So
I'm looking at the Celtics as I looked at the
Denver Denver team from a year ago, and the fact
that yes, they have the core talent. This team is
good enough to rattle off multiple championships. But keep in mind,
this is the sixth different team in the last six

(07:21):
years to win the NBA championship. It's not that easy.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
It's not that easy.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
And I love that you brought up the Nuggets because
the Nuggets did really play with their food throughout the
course of the playoffs, something that I think we've seen
the Celtics do over the past couple of years. We
even saw it early on losing to the Heat without
Jimmy Butler. So I feel very misled, not just by
the MAVs because you did not play the way you

(07:49):
were playing MAVs. I also feel misled by the Celtics
because they absolutely crushed, dominated, kicked ass, took names. Because
of that, the finals were boring, Oh terribly so boring.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I mean literally, these are one of those finals three
or four years from now you're like, who won the
champ And you're like, I don't remember doing already.

Speaker 6 (08:13):
Yeah, Like yesterday I was working early, so the parade
was happening, and I was like, there's not even any
attention on the parade, like nobody even cares anymore.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Well, i mean we've already moved on.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Let's break down that Milwaukee Phoenix final of a couple
of years ago.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Anybody remember that.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
Yeah, let me let me tag in Dan Bayer because
that's his team there.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I mean, this is the.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Problem when you when you have like this revolving door
of teams entering into the NBA finals, as opposed to
when you had the same two teams in the finals
four consecutive years. Yeah, with the Cavaliers and the Warriors,
and so that sort of all a bunch together. One
thing I found very interesting. I'm watching this last game, right,

(08:53):
Jason Tatum said him in a really good game, and
all the focuses on Jason Tatum, Right the game is over,
He's doing the same thing you've seen Jordan do and
Kobe you know where they're like crying they win a
championship and everything else.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
And then they announced the NBA Finals MVP. Yeah, and it.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Goes to Jalen Brown. And I'm thinking to myself, think
about this. Jason Tatum, first team All NBA the last
three years in the Finals, led the team in scoring, rebounding,
and assist all three categories.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
There were ten people that voted.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Four people voted for Jason Tatum, six voted for Jalen Brown.
And Jalen Brown is the Finals MVP, So why do
you believe that he was named the MVP of the Finals?

Speaker 6 (09:45):
So I think the Celtics won as a team, right,
There was no one star. There were moments that Jalen
Brown had throughout the entire playoff series, more moments than
other players.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
But Derek White was doing amazing for them.

Speaker 6 (09:59):
Obviously, Chris porzingis that first game back, the excitement, So.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Drew Holiday, Drew Holliday, I mean he should have been
considered for MVP.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
But see, there were just like a lot of moments
spread out amongst the team. There wasn't one that stood
out over everybody else. And the reason I think Jalen
Brown got it is because he had the most moments
you thought of, whether it was blocking, whether it was
having a thirty five point game.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
He, I think just had the most moments that you remember.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
If you would have actually I think I did read
that after that Tatum led in all those categories. I
don't know if I would have known that, Like, if
you would have just asked me to guess, I would
have been like, well, let me see.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
Maybe Brown Lenon.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
I would imagine this is never happening before where a
first team All NBA player leads his team in all
three major categories in the NBA Finals and doesn't walk
away with the MVP.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Awe, he did not stand out.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
They won as a team, Yeah, they won as a
five you know, seven man team for sure.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
I hate the Celtics.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Come on, I just this was hard for me, as
a lifelong Lakers fan to watch the Celtics break the tie.
It took a long time for the Lakers to finally
catch the Celtics at seventeen a piece, but now the
Celtics are on top. Well, the question now moving forward
is can the Lakers catch them On the other side,

(11:21):
We're going to start the unraveling of what the Lakers
are doing to ensure that they will be NBA champions
for the twenty twenty four to twenty five season.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Did they make the right move? I think you already
know the answer, but we'll embellish. This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Steve Harman montsee belangos here Fox Sports Saturday. We're coming
alive from the tai Iraq dot Com studios or What
a Shock? JJ Reddick reportedly the new head coach of
the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Hey, why not? He's been coaching his kids team. Sure,
it's ready to roll. He has kids, He has kids,
He has kids, and he's coached the kids team.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
Well that's good. Yeah, yeah, certainly to be the easiest
transition for him.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
What what what?

Speaker 2 (13:05):
What was this whole charade about? Here, here's what I
here's what I still want to know. We still really
have not defined what happened with that Dan Hurley.

Speaker 5 (13:13):
All right, it's even more bizarre.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Now think about it.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
So no one, nobody was talking about Dan Hurley until
WOJ did, who has a direct connection to Dan Hurley.
And the next thing you know, he's flying out to
LA to meet with the Lakers, and wog is reporting
that they're going to make an offer so incredible there's

(13:37):
no way.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
He's going to turn it down.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
And he's been he's been there, number one guy from
the get go. So Hurley comes in, they don't make
him an incredible offer, he turns it down. And now
the guy that we have been saying is going to
be the guy from the get go, because after all,
he does co host a podcast with the Lebron James.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
That's got to qualify you to be a head coach
of one of the most fable franchises of all time.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
By the way, I talk about hating the Celtics, I
hate Duke And if you hate Duke, jj Reddick is
one of the all time Dukers.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
So then how are you going to handle this? How
are you going to handle.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
I'll look at it this way. There, if they win
a championship, I can turn real quick. But I'll tell
you one thing. He's got two strikes against him already already.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Strike one is the fact that he's not qualified for
the job. Strike two is that if you are a
Duke hater, Reddick is right up there with the all timers.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
So all right, not qualified?

Speaker 6 (14:42):
And I agree, I agree, But who did the Lakers
really have?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
That's a great who wants the job?

Speaker 5 (14:52):
Who wants the job? Who were really the options?

Speaker 6 (14:56):
It's just because of Lebron James and everything that he
brings to the table, good and bad. They're not in
a normal situation. You can't just go get somebody that
you think is gonna be good. You have to go
get somebody that Lebron says yes, and that Lebron mutually respects, right,
Like that has to be there, All of that has

(15:17):
to be there. I feel like the things that a
typical GM or a typical team is looking and checking
off a box, where not the things the Lakers had
to check off. They had to check off several things
that surround Lebron James. So already it's a limited pool
of people.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
That they could pick from.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
All right, They're not gonna lure anybody away, as they
were unsuccessful with Dan Hurley. I don't think they had
many options. And it's just, yeah, JJ Redick is not qualified.
But we have seen JJ Reddick express when he is
doing play, not play by play, but when he's covering
a game. He has a high basketball like you. You
can hear it when he talks about it. He understands

(15:54):
the game. He wasn't a point guard. He was a
shooting guard, which is also a different perspective. But he
he understands the game, and he I think has a
good eye, and I think he could.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Be a good coach. I think he could be a
good coach.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
All right.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
So it's interesting that in his fifteen years that he
played in the NBA as a hired gun I mean,
that's essentially.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
What he was.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Wasn't an All Star, nothing like that, and just failed
for the I mean, but he was yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
He played for a lot of bad coaches, because he
played for a lot of bad teams in the course
of his NBA career. But he also played for one
of the greatest coaches in the history college basketball, and
coach Mike Krzyzewski. By the way, I will say this
about patience with the Lakers. Mike Krzyzewski, had he been

(16:46):
hired by Duke twenty years later, would never have survived.
Understand this one. Mike Shichefski was hired this completely unknown
People didn't know how to pronounce his name or anything
about this young coach whould coach their army.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Duke was a real good basketball team at the time.
In fact, just three years before his first season, they
were in the NCAA Championship Game, and the fact that
they had fallen short of that is the reason that
got rid of the coach that preceded him. His first
three years at Duke were three losing seasons. Duke hadn't
had three straight losing seasons in years. Everybody was like,

(17:26):
this guy sucks.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Get rid of him.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
But the athletic director who made the hire said we're
going to stay with this guy, and three years later
he had him in their first championship game and the
rest is history. This is one of the big problems
with all these guys that have been hired as coach
of the Lakers since Phil Jackson, none of them have
lasted more than three years. For the lakers sake, this
has to be hopefully more than just pleasing Lebron James.

(17:54):
You've got to get your roots done. The overall records
Genie Bus took over ownership of the team is an embarrassment.
An embarrassment for a Laker franchise that has the history
that it has. One way to correct that and get
this franchise back on track is to do what the

(18:16):
Denver Nuggets did, build a core, stay with it, what
the Celtics did to rebuild their dynasty, build a corps
and stay with it. That's something that the Lakers have
not done under the ownership of Genie Bus. And I'm
hoping that JJ Reddick will get the opportunity to grow

(18:37):
into the job and be the coach, not just because
Lebron wants him there, but because he is the right
guy into the future for this like organization.

Speaker 6 (18:48):
I mean, they can't build from within right now. That
can be done in a couple of years and hold
the core group because Lebron is what maybe two three
years left, so they can't take that out yet. But
they obviously like something in JJ Reddick. They offered him
four years when we was last time they offered a
coach more than three years and the number wasn't that
what Tylu wanted?

Speaker 5 (19:08):
If this year a couple of years ago, wasn't that
the number eight.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Mil a year they're still paying Darvinham.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
Then they're still right. So it's like I think they're
taking I think they like JJ Reddick. You know, apparently
they had their first conversation during the NBA Draft combine.
That's the first conversation that how with JJ Reddick Rock
Bolinka for like two hours or something, and then yeah,
they liked his the way he spoke about basketball and
his IQ and they think he's going to relate to

(19:34):
the players.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
And I think they're taking a big swing. But I don't.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
I don't think it wouldn't shock me if he's a
good coach, it just would not shock me.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
I hope he's a good coach.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Yeah, I mean I don't because I don't.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Like against him. He has two strikes against him.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
I said that, right, But you said the strikes can
be raised if he brings you a championship.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, he could change that whole dynamic. I
think could become the biggest Look, I'm old enough to
remember when pat Rye was elevated to be the head
coach of Lakers. At the time, it seemed like a joke.
The guy had been chick Hern's sidekick, and only because
of it. You saw in the Winning Time where the
head coach, Jack McKinney had been hired, and then he
gets into a bicycle accidentally. They have to elevate Paul

(20:15):
westhead and he needs an assistant. So they're like, all right, well,
no longer you the chick hern sidekick. You're going to
be an assistant coach. And then he becomes a head coach.
But when he became head coach, it was like a joke.
No one believed that pat Riley had any business being
a head coach in the NBA, and he became a
Hall of Famer. So I'm hoping that it's the right

(20:36):
hire now again, this team needs to add some pieces.
Drafting Brownie James next week does not seem like that
would be something of an immediate help with the idea
that Laker fans, true Laker fans are thinking, we need

(20:56):
to win a championship now like this year. We need
to add pieces to make this team a championship team
this season. Using a draft pick on a kid that
at this point of his career has no business in
the NBA other than the fact that he's Lebron James'
son is not gonna help this team win a championship

(21:18):
next season.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
No, it's not.

Speaker 6 (21:20):
And all it's gonna do is make the Lakers continue
to be a point of talking a conversation piece, because
that's what the Lakers want.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
They want us to keep talking about them because.

Speaker 6 (21:31):
They are gonna make money if we keep talking about them,
if they continue to be the brand that the Lakers
have always been. So even though this could be a
bad thing, I think they're thinking it's still gonna be
in the long term good because it's gonna keep Lebron
there and people are gonna want to come see Lebron
and Bronnie with JJ reddick I Before we completely move on.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
From this subject.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
I am surprised JJ Reddick took the job because I
feel that I would be like, you just left a
bad taste in my mouth. You told me you wanted me,
and then you went in a public story that you
offered Dan Hurly money, and then you put me off
to the side, and then he said no, and now
you want me again. I feel like, how does that

(22:16):
not leave a bad taste in your mouth? How does
that not start a relationship on a negative note, even
though he may not act like it.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
That's what I would be thinking.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
I'm not your first choice, and everybody knows that, not
just me everything, So.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
This would be like, you're engaged to some guy.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Okay, right, yeah, okay, you got.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Your wedding plan.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
You know, I got a little business where we're gonna
get the wedding date, and then all of a sudden
in the meantime, you're like, well, I'm gonna I'm gonna
go out with this other girl. Yeah, in fact, I'm
gonna actually ask her to marry me, but then she
turned me down.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
So I'm gonna come back to.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
You, hey, exactly exactly.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
How and how would you feel? Not good?

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Not okay, Oh Carrie Underwood song taking a back to
his car instantly. That's absolutely and that's that's what I thought.
How he had to completely put his by the way,
this is not a done deal, is it? We keep
hearing reportedly and then we don't even know the actual number.
It was the athletic that says in the neighborhood of

(23:24):
eight million.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
So it's like j million.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
He was they hot for the l A guy six
years seventy million dollars.

Speaker 7 (23:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
See what I'm all of this like, how are you
okay with that?

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Well, people are going to ask him that day one
if he's he takes a job.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
But why why is this? He's the draft? Is this sweet?

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Yes, well he already knows they're gonna get Brawnie, so
he's not worried about the draft.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
He's not worried about that.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
I'm just saying, all right, let's find out what's trending
right now.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Does Brian have a new polo?

Speaker 3 (23:59):
I might?

Speaker 10 (24:00):
And why not? Although you know Steve, you know Moncey
Steve like you don't. It doesn't take a lot of
money for you to be you. You wear the same
thing every day. There's very little put.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
It this way, my ex spent more money on her
nails today than I spent on food in two weeks.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
What does that say, Mancy?

Speaker 5 (24:21):
When you hear that, you know, he's just a simple man.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
He's a simple He's a simpleton, a simpleton, simple.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
I'm just your daddy, except you're my daddy. Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 10 (24:31):
Are we gonna have that segment? Your daddy's coming up here?
But I've still see the last two times I've been
on the show too for two Yeah yeah, daddy.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah, Well i'll pay you with Nichols when you get
a check. It's sith.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
By the way, does he seem different now that he's
conning down to his big wedding day?

Speaker 10 (24:48):
I know so months. I'm fired up. I'm fired up.
I still don't know if she's gonna say yes, you
never know.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
I like the Lakers situation, So how do you think.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
She would have handled this?

Speaker 2 (24:59):
Where you've planned to get married all this time and
then you decided to detour and actually ask another girl
to marry you, then turns you down, and then you
come back to your original and say, look, you know
you've really been the one all along.

Speaker 10 (25:14):
Here's here's what I think with the JJ Reddick situation.
I think he was the first one all along. But
they threw that thing about Hurley just as a facade
to get your attention away from thinking that he was
the guy, and to make it look like there was
a competition.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
I think it was like a smokescreen.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
I don't know if Hurley wasn't the guy, they could
have from the get go saying we have no interest
in Dan Hurley.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
JJ Reddy is our guy, much loved.

Speaker 10 (25:41):
He could have said that from the get go, right,
much loved Adrian Orginowski. But you know he's got he's
been burned on a company, he got scorched on that.
So he's looking for something. Yeah, the guy from the
Athletic is killing him. Yeah, And I think he was
looking for something. I'm not saying that that he reached
a little bit to come up with this story with Hurley,
but he knew he had to do.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
But it makes the Lakers look bad, Yes, that's what
that's that's you know. I mean, we could talk about
woaj he'll survive, but the Lakers look doubly bad. And
by the way, again, we have not been introduced to
JJ Reddick as the new head coach of the Lakers.

Speaker 10 (26:15):
Yet, although I've seen Austin Reeves wasn't Arkansas, where he
spent a lot of time. He was interviewed by an
Arkansas local sports reporter about the situation.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
So I haven't they introduced him as the new head coach.
That's a great question. What are they waiting for? I
have no idea the draft is this week? Who knows.

Speaker 10 (26:34):
I'm sure we'll find out at some point, hopefully, and
if not, Monsie or Steve, you'll be in the running.
In the running for no thanks anyway, because they would.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Force me to dress nights and nights simply you don't
want to do that.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
They would just ask for a different polo every day.
You're fine, all right.

Speaker 10 (26:51):
Nice thing about the nice thing about the material, since
it's radio people can't see. But the nice thing about
the material of that collared shirt, Steve, is that you
can wear that like five in a row and you
won't have a lot of bo oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah, So that's the good thing about it. Yeah, yeah,
I try. I think Montebley appreciates that too.

Speaker 5 (27:07):
Yeah, thank you for all that information.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
Yeah yeah, yeah. Hey.

Speaker 10 (27:10):
At the European Championship, we're talking soccer here. We had
a couple of noteworthy matchups today, Portugal with a three
nil went over Turkey, Belgium with a two nil w
over Romania, and then coming up in about two and
a half hours.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Yeah, we're ready for it.

Speaker 10 (27:26):
Here on FS one is Jamaica and Mexico battling it
out nine eastern and this is part of Copa America.
We also have Venezuela and Ecuador in the thirty second
minute as part of Copa American FS one right now,
no score into that thirty second a minute. As far
as what else is going on. Cameron Young Friday fifty

(27:47):
nine today, third round of the Travelers Championship. It's only
the thirteenth time that a player on the PGA too
or has had a round sub sixty. But it's not
good enough to have the lead overall right now, Tom Kim,
he is on a charge here. He is at fifteen
under two hundred today through eight holes. And speaking of
Cameron Young, he's at thirteen under overall, so he's just

(28:09):
two shots off the lead. You got some guys at
fourteen hundred. You might have heard of them, Guys like
Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schaffle, and then you have the
live event. Yeah, I'm gonna say it. I don't know
if I'm here next week because I mentioned it, but
Golf Nashville is going on. Terrell Haddon is your leader.
This is through two of three rounds, Terrell Haddon in

(28:30):
Nashville at the live event, thirteen under overall, he's got
a three shot lead. And then lastly, just quickly, in
Major League Baseball, we've got the Mariners nine to nothing.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
They just pulled off a win.

Speaker 10 (28:41):
They did it against the hapless Marlins thanks to fifteen hits.
Guardians over the lou Jay's six to three, Astros five
to one, winners against the Orioles, the Pirates four to three.
They triumph over the Rays, Ranger six, Royals nothing, the Phillies,
you take out the fly swatter on the Diamondbacks twelve
to two. People pay to go to that game as

(29:01):
far as that one. And then the Cubs eight, the
Mets one, also, the Cardinals nine, the Giants four, White
Sox five. The White Sox actually won a game usually
that's they're allergic to it. And five to one over
the Tigers.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
They did it.

Speaker 10 (29:14):
And then let's not forget tonight at ten ten Dodgers
and Angels, Monsie and Steve. As I get it back
to you, I'm actually gonna go to this game. I
have not been to a Dodgers game all season long.
What am I expecting? What should I be looking for?
High prices?

Speaker 5 (29:28):
High prices?

Speaker 2 (29:29):
I mean, how do you planning to have a beer
or a hot dog or something along those lines tonight?

Speaker 3 (29:34):
You know I don't drink. You're gonna be ready for
sticker shock.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Well, even if you're gonna get a soda, you're gonna
be in sticker shock.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
So somebody had to pay for show. Hey Tony's contract. Yeah,
that that is true. So looking forward to that. I'll
let you know how it goes in. I love Dodgers Stadium,
though there's anything like it. Yeah, there's nothing like you.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
No, there's nothing like you. I'm getting ready for your
big who's your daddy question? Giving it up a little
bit later on. All right, once again, thank you bfinn.
We're coming live from the tay raq dot com studios.
So every Saturday we touch upon the WNBA because the
WNBA continues to not just b news, it is sort

(30:17):
of the news on the sports Ledger. Right now, the
dog days of summer NBA season is over. We're gonna
get into the Game seven of the Stanley Cup Final
between Florida and Edmonton. Looking forward to that. But the
w NBA stays in the news because of not one,
but two ladies, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. And Angel

(30:41):
Reese has masterfully played off of Caitlin Clark's fame to
become famous herself.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
I mean, she was already famous.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
But it's just interesting to me again that the WNBA
has all these star players. Yes, I mean Asia Wilson
is unreal. I mean, she's she dominates this league. Yes,
she's a champion, she leads the league in the Nobody
talks about her. Nobody, absolutely no, I mean the local
fans do, but nobody in the general public is talking
about her.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
She's the best player in this league.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
And then, I mean, I could go down the list
of great players in the WNBA, But right now the
focus is on two ladies that tomorrow will match up
once again. This game in Chicago, I was showing you
online ticket prices for the upper section and you were saying,
how much were you paying for tickets?

Speaker 7 (31:34):
Like that?

Speaker 6 (31:34):
I went to the Vegas Aces game last July and
I sat at the very last row.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
It's like a two hundred section. It was a great seat.
I paid ten dollars.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
Ten dollars so the two hundred section.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
In Chicago, the upper section tickets are listed at almost
two hundred dollars each.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yeah, no upper section. Yeah, very exciting WNBA game.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
It is exciting for this league, and I hope that
they can really take advantage of it. But let's face it,
the majority of people that are wannabes, you know, Bandwagon,
and that's fine.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
I have no problem with Bandwagon fans by the way.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Yeah, it's not that they really want to see a
shootout between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. They want fisticuffs
like they would love to see like Angel Reaves drop
the hammer on Kaitlin Clark, but this time Kaitlyn Clark
is like enough already and jumps her and the girls
are going after each other and it would just be

(32:30):
like international news.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
Yes, I do believe that there are lots of fans
out there that want to go for the drama.

Speaker 11 (32:37):
Oh, But at the same time, I think they would
be very happy if they went to a game like that,
and Caitlin Clark dropped thirty hit you know, three threes
from Deep, and then Angel Reese got another double double.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Like, I think people would still walk out happy, but
you're right, like.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
Inside, subtly they're waiting for the drama, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Angel, we drop that Haruner No at this time, Caitlin
Clark's I got enough side.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
It would be such good reality TV, which is sports
right reality TV.

Speaker 6 (33:10):
So yeah, I agree, but I think people would just
be happy, honestly seeing them both go off against each other.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
That's that's also.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
By the way, the NBA in the nineties was that.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yes, I mean when you had a guy like Bill
Lambert with the pistons, he just didn't care, he didn't care.
He would do things that were so blatant, yeah, to
instigate fights, and then you have free for alls, I
mean the infamous Malice in the Power and then Ronard
Tests going into the stands unfortunately going after the wrong

(33:45):
guy by the way, well he was fired up, and
then you saw a fan on the court get jumped.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
That entire sequence.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
It was unreal, unreal.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
I was working I was working at the CBS affiliate
TV that night, and I was on the on the
news set.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
She wanted the news anchor.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Longtime news anchor Pat Harvey and I were on the
set together and she's like, explain what's going on.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
I'm like, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you something.
We never seen this.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Before, so you're gonna be watching like me for the
first time, and I'm gonna try to take you into this.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
This is not good for the league, yeah, but it
is good for the league, all right.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Because everyone's talking about it m hm. So you know
that's that's something that has to sort of weigh in. Like,
as long as there's this tension, yes, whether it's manufactured
or reel between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, it's a
winner for the WNBA.

Speaker 6 (34:43):
Yes, tension with other teams, drama with other players. But
the tension that we thought was happening maybe in the
locker room with the Indiana fever, I think is going away,
which is a good thing.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
I saw that they've.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
Won four in a row.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
And in a recent presser, Kaitlyn Clark was asked about
her turnovers, which a lot of them are passes right
that she can't get them in the perfect the perfect spot.
She kind of started, she's very good, Kaitlyn Clark are
responding to reporters, but Aliyah Boston jumped in her teammate,
her teammate who was the former number one pick last

(35:20):
year from South Carolina. Right, she jumped in and was like,
I got it, And she's basically just said, Kitlyn is
going to keep passing the ball and we're gonna get
better at it and we're gonna like it was such
a nice moment which we hadn't seen. Right, So the
tension that we want, it's like tension, but against other teams,
there should be no tension.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
In the fact that her teammates now multiple teammates are
being more verbal in their support of her. Yes, is
something that is developing, and of course that coincides with
the fact.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
That they have rattle off for state wins. Right. You know,
suddenly we're winning games.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
And when you think about the horrific start that the
Fever got off to this year, well above five hundred
over the last I don't know, ten games or so,
so they're playing much better. And I think now because
they're winning, her teammates are suddenly saying, all right, maybe
it's good for us. To have Caitlin Clark on our team.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Yeah, they're starting to look like a team.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
All right.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Coming up on the other side, who's your daddy? Now,
this is again a MONSI creation. I had nothing to
do with this, and we'll see if once again I
can come up with a few baffling answers to some
crazy questions.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yes, this is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
It is Fox Sports Saturday. I am Monty Bolanos here
with Steve Hartman.

Speaker 6 (36:50):
Thanks for hanging out with us, and it's time for
our favorite news segment. This is our new favorite segment,
and it's coming to you live from the tyreq dot
com studios and we are gonna get right into it. Okay,
Steve Hartman, I know you're gonna know this one, but
we're gonna do it anyway. What Heisman winner has won
by the most points?

Speaker 2 (37:11):
Okay, by the most points or by the biggest margin.

Speaker 6 (37:14):
I mean, if you want to give me both answers,
that's fine, but I was going by the most points.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
The most points I believe is O. J. Simpson. Yep,
so that was the question.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
Yes, yes, that's he had the most first place of votes.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Yes, correct that five. By the way, that.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
Is exactly correct. Oh, your son, everybody know that.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
No, I like OJ played football. I thought he just
murdered people.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
Who won by the biggest margin of points, the biggest margin.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
Let's see, that's that's the biggest margin of points. That'd
be a more recent person. The question is which one
is it?

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Would it be?

Speaker 2 (37:58):
I'm guessing here, I don't know this one. I'm gonna
I'm gonna guess Joe Burrow.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
Yeah, you're so annoying. That's correct.

Speaker 6 (38:06):
Okay, so all right, all right, last one from me here.
You're a movie guy, right, Okay, So I'm gonna I'm
gonna throw a little pop cultured Okay.

Speaker 5 (38:17):
Who was the best picture? Yeah, in two thousand and three.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
Best picture in two thousand and give you a hint.
I don't have to give me a hint. It was
Lord of the Rings.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
No, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa No no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no. You're talking about two thousand and three, the
year of the Awards or the year it was awarded four.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
If you talk about the year of the awards, it
was Chicago. Damn.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Yes, that's correct, but it was technically Best Picture in
two thousand and two, but awarded in two thousand and three.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
I had to correct your question.

Speaker 5 (38:46):
You're so annoyed that it.

Speaker 6 (38:47):
Is correct in Chicago, Patrick, Come on, man.

Speaker 8 (38:51):
All right, all right, I got It's a one step
good question here, people, We're going one step Steve Yes.
Who was the first foreign play player to be drafted
number one overall in the n.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
B A, first foreign player drafted number one overall in
the n B A n b A.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
That's a good question.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
That is a great question.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
There's one name that's coming in my mind immediately. Better
better wait for a second year. I'm just gonna go
ol Candy. No, it was not Michael. I answered too quickly.
Then I should have answered a little first foreign born guy,
foreign player, first foreign player.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
To be the number one overall pick. So it wasn't
Michael Olow and Candy. No, do you.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
Have the year, Patrick?

Speaker 7 (39:45):
No, not the year, but I know who it is, Like, Okay,
I I give on this one.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
What was it? Michael Thompson from the Bahamas, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
Hold on you at the University of Minnesota, and he
went to high school in Florida.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
He's from the.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Book That is a true Question and born player.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
Goodbye. All right, he's such a phony Bahamian. My dear
friend Michael. Okay, he's laughing right now because he's listening.
Good job. I like that, Patrick, or my daddy. I'll
give it to Yes. All right, here's one from me, guys.

Speaker 10 (40:29):
Yes, what year was my mom in Playboy?

Speaker 3 (40:37):
She hasn't been in it yet, but she will be. No,
she's been in it. I'm serious. She was in Playboy.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
What year?

Speaker 3 (40:43):
I'll say nineteen eighty two, close representing UCLA in nineteen seventy.

Speaker 5 (40:50):
Eight, nineteen seventy eight.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
Rolling along here in another busy Sports Saturday, Fox Sports
Saturday broadcasting live from the tire rag dot com studios,
tire rag dot com. We're going get you there and
I'm at selection fast free shipping free road has a
protection over ten thousand recommended installers.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
Tire rack dot com. The way tire Buyan should be.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Mary, Matt, could you open up be fends Mike for
a second here, I need to get more details about
your mother in an issue of Playboy back and that's
a draw in the eight where I was in college
at that point. Can you give us more details about
your mom and Playboy?

Speaker 10 (41:25):
So she went to UCLA, and I'm trying to figure
out because when you were there, see what years were
you there?

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Seventy six to eighty one?

Speaker 10 (41:32):
Okay, so you were at UCLA at the same time. Correct,
So she graduated in eighty.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
Which was the year I should have graduated. I stayed
a fifth year. We're the same year. She graduated high
school in seventy six.

Speaker 10 (41:43):
Yeah, well she actually took like five years to graduate college.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Okay, so that's what I did, all right, Yeah, so
she was a year ahead of me, she was.

Speaker 10 (41:51):
Yeah, and she decided, well, first of all, she had
gotten a call to do. At the time, it was
called this is way back when they had the Girls
of the Pac ten.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
Yes, yeah.

Speaker 10 (42:01):
And so what they did is that Playboy would have
these segments in their magazines where they would showcase women
from every university in the conference. The one thing that
she attests to, and she is correct, is that it
wasn't a nude so it was it was strictly bathing suit.

(42:21):
They wanted her afterwards to do more shoots. They wanted
her to bear it all and she said, no, I'm
not doing it. So that's my mom and I'm proud
of her. Fad she ever met Hugh Hefner. She got
invited to the mansion, yes, but she never met him.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Interesting And how do her parents feel about her appearing
in Playboy magazine.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
I think they were very proud of her, of her daughter.

Speaker 10 (42:47):
And you know it's okay, Steve, like way back then,
we won't tell anybody, like if you happen to buy you.

Speaker 3 (42:53):
Know that that episode or that math, well, I'm gonna know.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
I'm gonna look it up because I used to have it.
I mean for research purposes, find the stats. Thank you
very much, uh Manzi. I wanted to talk a little
bit about the passing of Willie Mays. Willie Mays, in

(43:18):
my opinion and in the opinion of most people that
have followed the history of baseball, was the greatest all
around talent that ever played the game. And we talked
about five tool players. It's overused, but Willie Mays was
that guy. He could hit, he could hit for power,
he could field, he could throw, and he could run.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
The bases.

Speaker 2 (43:41):
He led the league in stolen bases four times, and
he led the league in home runs four times. That
there's no one like that. I mean, we talk about
the guy that we watched now with Shoheo Tani and
his ability to pitch, but want you just talk about
playing the game of baseball. The greatest talent ever to
play the game, in my opinion, and I'm certainly not alone,

(44:04):
was Willy Mays.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
I actually got to see Willy.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Mays play for the Giants when I was thirteen years old,
nineteen seventy one Dodgers. He came out to dot and
I just thought of my which like an out of
body experience to see him, because the year before I
went to see a Braves game where Hank Aaron was
in the game. You know, So I saw these legends
and I got to meet Hank Aaron on a number
of occasions, wonderful man. Willie Mays was a little more

(44:29):
difficult of a personality. But they had this historic game
there in Birmingham in honor of the old Negro leagues
and Willie Mays, and Willy was really going to be
a part of this. And then he passed away, you know,
and he had long, long life, obviously ninety three years old.
But this is the thing about baseball that if you're

(44:50):
not a baseball fan, and I get it, I mean,
baseball is a nineteenth century sport that is still trying
to breathe in the twenty first century.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Are you a baseball fan?

Speaker 2 (45:01):
I mean you you've covered at Dodger Stadium and he
worked there for years with the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (45:05):
But are you really a baseball fan?

Speaker 5 (45:08):
I think I am now, but I wasn't.

Speaker 6 (45:10):
I became a baseball fan in you know, like seventh
or eighth grade. I've always been a basketball fan. Yeah,
that's what I watched. My parents watch basketball. They watched soccer,
so baseball and American football.

Speaker 5 (45:23):
I kind of like had to pick up on my
own type of thing.

Speaker 6 (45:26):
But baseball, yeah, no, I thought it was very boring, boring.
I played softball and I thought it was really boring,
which is why I was a pitcher. I was like me,
the ball, I can't sis, I can't be in the outfield.

Speaker 5 (45:36):
Don't put me there. But it is a slow sport
and it took him in it.

Speaker 6 (45:41):
But now I would say I'm a fan because now
if I watch something and it doesn't things don't go
my way with the Dodgers, I get mad and it
gets under my skin.

Speaker 5 (45:49):
So I think I'm a fan.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
Now, well, I will say this, if you had been
old enough to see Willie Mays, and really May's the
prime of his career was even before my time. He
was excitement on the field. Yes, I mean he could
do it all. I mean he could run the bases,
he could hit, hit with power, his fielding twelve straight
gold gloves. I mean, you know the over the shoulder
catch in the nineteen fifty four Worlds Jeries crazy talent.

Speaker 6 (46:14):
Is there anybody in today's game that reminds you?

Speaker 3 (46:17):
You know, when Ken Griffey Junior first came into the
major leagues, a lot of people talked about, you know,
he could field, he could hit, hit with power, stuff
like that. He couldn't run the bases though, like Willie Mays,
That's what there were. Certain there are certain guys that
are close close.

Speaker 5 (46:32):
I mean, what about Elie de la Cruz.

Speaker 3 (46:35):
He's got along with He's got a long way to go.

Speaker 5 (46:36):
But you mentioned stolen bases, which he's you know.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
By the way, tomorrow you know have John Paul Morosi
on our show, we're going to I know he's going
to be really into what they did down in Birmingham.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
We talked a little bit about it last week.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
But the MVP voting nowadays is a completely different thing
that was back in Willie Mays's days because they look
at war like this warstat, which obviously when Willie Mays
played it wasn't a war stat had there been now
he won two MVPs, But had they had the war
stat back in those days, he probably would have won
at least seven. Because in that category now retro, you know,

(47:12):
they've don't ye hed just dominated year after year after year.
So he was he was really special. I did get
to meet him once, like I said, and I wasn't
like disappointing. He just sort of a little stand offish.
It didn't matter to me.

Speaker 3 (47:27):
Just to see Willie Mays just sort of blew my mind,
yeah back because I mean, I mean, you talk about
Mount Rushmore, I mean, like this guy is it with
Willie May? So you know, no one lives forever. Obviously
he had a long life though, ninety three, that's long long.

Speaker 5 (47:43):
He did it all. He did a little bit of everything,
that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
He did, so that's that's good news. By the way,
I've been texting with a friend of mine about the
Lakers situation.

Speaker 5 (47:53):
Did you get any inside scoop?

Speaker 4 (47:56):
No?

Speaker 2 (47:56):
And just the fact that it's embarrassing where the Lakers
are right now, It really is. I mean, and I
think you brought up the best point, Mancie about being jilted,
like me, what is going through ahead of jj Reddick,
because you know, once he's introduced, if indeed he's going
to take the job, Because again, have they scheduled a

(48:18):
press conference?

Speaker 3 (48:19):
I haven't heard anything.

Speaker 5 (48:20):
I've been heard about that.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
That's got to be the first question. Yeah, how do
you feel about being the second choice and everyone knows
it and everybody knows it, and apparently you're making less
money than they offered the other guy?

Speaker 5 (48:34):
How do you feel about that? How did you put
your ego to the side? Is this the beginning of
you putting your ego to the side because you have
to work with Lebron? Speaking of Lebron, are you still
going to be doing your podcast?

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Order that we got all the questions, I wonder if
they're going to wait till after the draft, because the
other question is are you comfortable picking a kid that
shot thirty five percent from the field, averaging less than
five points a game and using an actual drap on
him just because he's Lebron's son.

Speaker 3 (49:02):
Are you comfortable with that as the coach of the team? JJ? Reddick?

Speaker 5 (49:06):
Yeah, is that your decision or are they telling.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
You you're going to be doing They're not going to
hold off till laughter.

Speaker 5 (49:11):
The Maybe they're going to hold off till after the draft.

Speaker 6 (49:13):
Hey, and if they do that, he can come out
and say, actually, wasn't a part of the draft.

Speaker 5 (49:17):
You know, they made those decisions without me.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
Well, how do you feel about that? As the coup
to the team.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
He's gonna be I mean, he's a member of the media,
so you know, and he is a pretty smooth talker,
and yeah, I mean he does impress people with the
idea that he has a high basketball IQ.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
But what does that have to do with me?

Speaker 2 (49:36):
There there are very successful managers and coaches that honestly
are not all that bright in terms of x's and o's. Yeah,
what they seem to understand is handling huge egos and
how to see One of the things that you go
way back into the day of showtime Lakers. Is that

(50:00):
every player on those teams had a very defined role,
whether they liked it or not.

Speaker 3 (50:05):
This is what you're going to do. This is what
you're going to do, and that's every game. And so
their box.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Scores are identical like game after game after game. But
you're still talking egos here. Yeah, like Magic's the star, Kareem,
but you're still the captain and big game, you know,
big game James, You'll be like the third wheel.

Speaker 5 (50:28):
Right, but you're still star.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
But you're still an all star. Hey, we'll all reap
the benefits if we continue to win chant. That's not
an easy sell.

Speaker 6 (50:36):
No, but I don't have you ever met JJ No,
I've never met him, and he does seem to I
don't even.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
His hair is perfect, perfect is hare?

Speaker 5 (50:48):
So is yours? H So you have that in common.
He seems like a little what is rigid to me?
Like he does.

Speaker 6 (50:59):
He's a smooth talk but I feel like he almost
like doesn't show emotion.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
Well, how did you feel about now? He had three
years with the Clippers.

Speaker 7 (51:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:07):
No, In fact, one of those years he shot get
this forty seven point three points.

Speaker 6 (51:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:13):
One of the great three point shooters in the history
of the NBA.

Speaker 6 (51:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Were you a fan of Reddick when he was with
the Clippers?

Speaker 6 (51:18):
I was, and then I wasn't when the playoffs came
around because he just wouldn't He wasn't able to deliver
when we needed him to, and he played well in
games when when everybody was playing well, and when you know,
others weren't, like our stars weren't playing well and we
needed Judy.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
This this is distressing because you need somebody again.

Speaker 2 (51:38):
Nobody gives a crap about the regular season, No, nobody,
nobody gives a crap. All they care about is what
do you do in the playoffs? And yeah, so you
know the Negros were coaches as well.

Speaker 6 (51:51):
Yeah, Like, my memories are more of him missing in
the playoffs, you know, in those moments where it was.

Speaker 5 (51:56):
Like you made that shot a thousand times? How did
you not make it right now?

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (52:00):
Like, uh you know, yeah, yeah, this is my memory
of JJ Reddick. But I we I think he was a.

Speaker 6 (52:07):
Fan favorite even though the playoffs just never went our way.
I do think he was a fan favorite at the time,
was he.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
I I just can't get past the Duke thing. I'm sorry,
just well, yeah, to me, he was like the poster
boy of duke basketball.

Speaker 5 (52:24):
I mean, so aren't you kind of happy that, like
he did not live up to the expectation.

Speaker 2 (52:29):
Oh, he played again. He was a three point shooter.
There's a reason he played fifteen years in the NBA. Yeah,
I mean his career three point percentage was over forty
one percent.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
That's amazing. Yeah, he could shoot threes. He could shoot
threes until it was the play.

Speaker 5 (52:44):
Until it was the playoffs. Really, God takes this just
back to those moments for the Clippers.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
All right, well we'll put that aside.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
By the way, Mark Medina, our NBA inside was going
to be joining us coming up at the bottom of
the hour, we do some baseball. We got to get
to Yeah, I mean these are dog days of summer.
I know a lot of people are sitting in there like, Okay,
NBA is over. Oh I know, we have an alternative
for you. How about a Game seven for the Stanley
Cup Final. What are we talking about? What kind of

(53:16):
history could be made by Edmonton?

Speaker 3 (53:18):
Will break it down. This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 2 (53:21):
Steve Harman and Montci Belanos Here Fox Sports Saturday. We're
coming alive from the tai Iraq dot Com Studios. Now
right after the show, our podcast is going up. If
you miss any of today's show, be sure to check
out the podcast. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts, and then follow rate and review the podcast. Again,
just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts,

(53:42):
and you'll see this show posted right after we get
off the air. So the Stanley Cup Final and the
NBA Finals at very similar.

Speaker 5 (53:52):
Starts, Yes they did.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
So you had Florida, just like Boston, get off to
a three to zero series lead and then get blown
out in Game four on the road. Edmonton wins eight
to one, and we talked about Dallas with their thirty
eight point win, and that's where we were last week, like, okay,

(54:14):
you've sort of made sure, like, okay, we're.

Speaker 3 (54:17):
Either going to win on our home court or the
home ice. Be careful. Well.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
In the Celtics case, they didn't have anything to worry
about because they blew the Mavericks right off the floor.
But for Florida, they came home ready to celebrate their
first Stanley Cup championship.

Speaker 3 (54:35):
It did not happen.

Speaker 1 (54:36):
It did not.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
They go back to Edmonton, Oilers hold on wise and
now we have a game seven.

Speaker 5 (54:46):
The two greatest words in sports, game seven.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
Game seven, especially when history can be made. Now a
little perspective on what's the difference between the NBA and NHL.
So the NBA's never happened and any playoff series a
team down three hill come back to win the series,
But it actually has happened four times. I got to
share a quick story with you. Of course, the last

(55:09):
time it happened was an opening round playoff series between
the LA Kings and the San Jose Sharks in twenty fourteen.
The Kings have won the Cup in twenty twelve, lost
to Western Conference finals in twenty thirteen, and now they
had a first round matchup against the Sharks and they
were down three to zero. Like, this is embarrassing, They've
going out in the first round. I get my TV
station has me out at Staple Center as it was

(55:30):
then known for Game four. The same night the Clippers
are opening up their playoff series against the Sacramento King.

Speaker 5 (55:37):
It's one of those days.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
So I'm at this meaningless hockey game and all focuses
on the Clippers, but we can't get the hookup going.
So our anchor, she's anchoring I'm there and our other
guy is up in Sacramento with the Clippers. They're telling me, look,
keep it short, we're going to go to him, right,
So I said, Funne, this is a true story. So

(55:59):
she comes to me and she goes, well, I guess
the Kings are still alive. I guess, yes, Well they
avoided the embarrassment of getting sweat. The Kings did win
Game four here at Staples Center, so they're going to
go back to San Jose, you know, and hope for
the best, and that was going to be it. In
my ear, they're like, Stretch, we can't get daring up.
So she asked me a follow She goes, oh, so, well,

(56:20):
do you think they can win this series? I'm like,
all right, well, let's put things in perspective. It's not impossible.
It actually has happened three times before, a team down
three to zero that could come back and win this series.
But obviously got to take it one game at a time.
It's not going to be easy up in San Jose.
But yeah, at least it's something that has happened.

Speaker 3 (56:40):
I thought that was going to be in it.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
They're yelling in my ear stretch. So she asked me
another question. She goes, what do you think the odds are?
So now I'm like, I'm like, forget it. I said,
I'll tell you what. I'm going to say this. I
say this on TV.

Speaker 3 (56:53):
I'm gonna tell you what if.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
They win Game five in San Jose, not only will
the King make history and come back to win this series,
They're gonna win the Stanley.

Speaker 3 (57:04):
Cupp Oh you went big, So I went big. So
now they're like not even listening to me. Back in
the Oh, we got the other guy and he's gone.
So what happens the King sweet four in a row
and they all go all the way to win the
Stanley Cup that year?

Speaker 5 (57:17):
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (57:17):
And they kept replaying our Steve Harbin was the first guy.
And I'm watching this, like you realize that was a joke, right,
Like I was just trying to fill time. He kept
telling me stretched say more, and I was just giving nonsense.

Speaker 3 (57:35):
But that was the last time it happened. It did
happen in the Stanley Cup final once.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
Back in nineteen forty two, the Toronto Maple Leafs came
back from a three to zero deficit to beat the
Detroit Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup. But this
this would be that was back when he had a
sixteen league, A much different world back in those days. Actually,
technically there were seventeens back in the day, but no
one remembers the Booklyn Americans anyway, I do, that's nineteen

(58:02):
forty two. But this would be unbelievable if Edmonton were
to win Game seven on the road against Florida.

Speaker 6 (58:08):
Yes, it'd be very exciting, obviously, coming down from an
O three deficit, also bringing a Stanley Cup to Edmonton.

Speaker 5 (58:16):
For the first time. But I don't know.

Speaker 6 (58:19):
So this is gonna be the eighteenth Game seven in
Stanley Cup final history.

Speaker 5 (58:24):
Okay, the last three road teams have won the game seven.

Speaker 3 (58:31):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (58:35):
Like you, Yes, I must watch.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
There's nothing like it.

Speaker 6 (58:40):
It doesn't And like, even if you don't like hockey,
you can watch hockey and be entertained without knowing anything else.

Speaker 3 (58:46):
Can you imagine if this game were to go overtime?

Speaker 8 (58:50):
I mean.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
There's nothing like it. No, there is, there is there
is because of the suddenness of it. Yes, And I've
been to playoff games that have gone overtime. I mean
you are on the edge of your seat, and we've
had We've had playoff games double overtime, triple we had
a quadruple overtime once.

Speaker 3 (59:13):
I remember, Yeah, that's gonna be good.

Speaker 5 (59:16):
It's gonna be exciting. And this series has had the
stars deliver for each team.

Speaker 6 (59:21):
Yes, you know, so like Connor McDavid and Chuck Like
they have done what they need to do for their team.

Speaker 5 (59:27):
So it's it's just a lot a lot is writing
on this game seven and it's it's exciting, thank goodness,
because the finals in the NBA sucked.

Speaker 3 (59:36):
By the way.

Speaker 2 (59:37):
Another twist, the con smythe award which is given to
the most valuable player, not of the final, it's of
the playoffs, which is different than you know, the World
Series MVP or NBA Finals MVP.

Speaker 3 (59:50):
Yes, yeah, it's the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
So it is not unprecedented for a player from the
losing team in the Stanley Cup Final to actually walk
away the con smite. So a post say, well, can
Connor McDavid win it if Edmonton doesn't win, And the
answer is, oh, yes he can.

Speaker 5 (01:00:09):
Didn't he just.

Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
Break Wayne Gretzky's records records, yeah, in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (01:00:14):
Yeah, and he has had big moments for them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
He is delivered, so keep him on the con smiite
is not just about the final, it's for the entire
playoffs and it's entired.

Speaker 5 (01:00:23):
Yeah, which makes sense.

Speaker 6 (01:00:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
You know, so you go to a lot of hockey
games a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
But I've been it's much better in person, much better.

Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Oh well, I always say this football was made for television. Yes,
basketball is made for TV. Baseball got to be at
the ball at you really got to be at the ballpark.
But hockey it's a different world.

Speaker 8 (01:00:45):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
And the thing about it is, I like to sit
hi because you want to see you want you want
to see the line changes, you want to see so
you don't see on television because they're following the park.

Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:00:57):
I feel the same.

Speaker 6 (01:00:57):
Yeah, it's like watching a musical. I want to be
a little bit higher so I could see the whole stage.

Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
It's good.

Speaker 5 (01:01:02):
Yeah, you want to see it all happening.

Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
Yeah. I was there for you know, the Kings both
their runs to the Cup in twelve and fourteen. Throughout
I covered like all those games for TV and it
was I was.

Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
It's fun, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
And I've covered Lakers. I mean, I've covered a lot
of championship teams, but those those were fun.

Speaker 5 (01:01:18):
Yeah, And I don't know what it is about the atmosphere, right,
You just wanted to fight. You just want to hit
each other.

Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
What about it? Because they don't do as much fighting
in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (01:01:27):
No, but the hitting you just want you want it
to be aggressive and you get into it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
But to get when you see overtime, man, nervous time.
One mistake and that's it and they're off and running.

Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
Yeah yeah, no, I'm nervous and not even care.

Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
All right, So Game seven Stanley Cup Final, looking forward
to that. Let's find out what is twenty right now?
Mark Medina, our NBA insider, will join us on the
other side. But first, this man right here, Hey, hi Mark,
I know you guys are going to talk to him.

Speaker 10 (01:01:54):
Yeah, but yeah, what we have right now is something
that's going on in the PGA too, or they're east
the Travelers Championship and Xander Schaffley and Tom Kim all
your leaders at sixteen under, guys, they still have multiple
holes to play.

Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
And I'm not stay in the math here. I did
not ask you this either off air on air?

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
What did you think forget the meltdown we saw Rory
McElroy I'm sorry choked. I mean he choked those two putts,
he got sixteen and eighteen to lose the US Open.
But then skipping out on the travelers, what did you think?

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
Well that? But also how about skipping out on media building?
I mean he was out of there. That's what I
have more of a problem with.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Yeah, I mean he did hit social media and then
congratulated Bryce into Shamba on his victory and everything else.

Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
But I don't know, what do you do?

Speaker 8 (01:02:41):
Man?

Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
I mean, you choked.

Speaker 10 (01:02:42):
Here's the other thing when you're seeing him signing his
scorecard and he's a group that went like finished first
before Deshambo Sunday at the US Open, and you I
mean for the fin It's amazing because it's very invasive.

Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
You get to see his body.

Speaker 10 (01:02:58):
Language in whether he's what is going on in his
head as he's watching Bryson de Shambau finish up on eighteen.
But it's like, there's no such thing in this world
of social media of privacy. No, I think if you
don't give him that opportunity, not that he wanted it,
but to have the camera on him as he's watching

(01:03:21):
Bryson de Shambau win.

Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
If you take that away. You gotta face the music
then you probably I'm a mac fan. I'm a Maclroy fan.
I was really rooty for him.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
But wow, yeah, choke job it was. It was a
total choke job.

Speaker 10 (01:03:34):
And obviously bryceon Deshambeau wins another one, his second US
Open and with PGA Tour right now the Travers Championship. Yeah,
we mentioned the leaders, but at fourteen hunderd, two shots
off the lead is Cameron Young, who fired a fifty
nine today.

Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
How significant is that? How rare is that?

Speaker 10 (01:03:54):
Well, it's only happened thirteen times on the PGA Tour
with a player going sub sixty in the history of
the tour. Live Golf in Nashville, Terrell Hatton has a
three shot lead through two rounds, thirteen under overall over
John Caitlin, who is at ten under. UEFA European Soccer
Championships a pluthora of games going on today Belgium two

(01:04:18):
nothing to nil.

Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Excuse me?

Speaker 10 (01:04:19):
Want to make sure I grammatically say it correctly for
soccer aficionados is two nil over Romania. You know, how
dare I offend anybody?

Speaker 12 (01:04:29):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:04:29):
Monster me listen?

Speaker 6 (01:04:30):
The other day I butchered a name, and then Martin
is like, because you had to say the nil, so
you were worried about saying the proper you know, two
Nils score, then.

Speaker 5 (01:04:39):
You messed up that. I was like, you're right, you're
right there.

Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
There is a truth to that, right.

Speaker 10 (01:04:43):
Portugal three nil over Turkey, also one to one in
Copa America action of Venezuela and Ecuador. FS one is
where you can watch that at the sixty seventh minute,
and then Mexico and Jamaica at nine Eastern time on
FS one part of Copa America. And lastly, I I
know Mark is waiting to get ready. Here he is

(01:05:04):
in the on deck circle.

Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
But quickly.

Speaker 10 (01:05:07):
In Major League Baseball, we've got the White Sox five
to one winners against the Tigers, victories for the Cardinals Cubs.
Also the Phillies, Pirates and Twins, Blue Jays lose to
the Guardian six to three, and the Emeritors just take
a fly swatter, I don't know what other way to
say it, a drop a piano on the Marlins nine

(01:05:28):
to nothing and there were fifteen hits in that game.
So yeah, enjoyed that one. If you're a Mariners fan,
fans of you all I am back to you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
I be fan.

Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Thank you very much, Brian Fanley, marvelous job as always
and again nineteen seventy eight.

Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
What month is your Martin on the issue?

Speaker 10 (01:05:46):
I think it was September when she was employee boy
Girls with the Pac ten UCLA represent excellent.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
She was there when I was there. Surprised you didn't
meet her? Maybe I did.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
That's that's what I'm really trying to figure out. All right,
We'll get back to you. I have a sibling I
didn't know about.

Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Day. Who's your daddy? Got really interesting right now?

Speaker 7 (01:06:09):
Really did?

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
There's a tourist that's your daddy?

Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
So, oh, ladies and gentlemen, once again, we are coming
to live from the tirag dot com studios, all right.
Joining us right now, as he so graciously does every
single week. He is our Fox Sports Radio NBA insider
Mark Mendina and Mark I got to ask, I mean,
JJ Reddick, coach draft Ronnie James, are you smelling championship

(01:06:33):
for the Lakers next season?

Speaker 12 (01:06:34):
Oh, without a doubt. I mean they're going to tie
the Boston Celtic for MOSTBA championships. Is going to come
down to Brownie James in the game winner in a
Game seven of the NBA five.

Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
All right, can we make some sense.

Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
Let's let's make some sense of exactly the direction this
organization is going in.

Speaker 12 (01:06:54):
That's the thing. It could go into multitude of directions,
but I think the direction is going to be the
JJ Reddick. I think can be a successful head coach.
I just don't think it's going to be with the Lakers.
And a few of the things is because he hasn't
been a head coach before. But I think the broader
point is just more of the fact that he's navigating

(01:07:14):
into a series of landmines because they're objectives that are
trying to fulfill are all different. They're trying to maximize
Lebron James' final years of his NBA career because he's
still playing at a relatively high level. They are trying
to bridge the gap between Lebron James being the face
of the franchise and Anthony Davis becoming the face of
the franchise. And they're also trying to develop the rest

(01:07:36):
of the roster with developing young players getting some better pieces.
And when you look at all those three objectives, it's
really hard to do that on top of fulfilling whatever
championship expectations the Lakers have. This is by far different
than most typical entry level NBA head coaching positions, where
it's a rebuilding team that's just about you know, internal

(01:07:59):
to develop that the Lakers are trying to achieve everything,
and there's a danger when you try to achieve everything,
you achieve nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:08:06):
Him, Eric, thanks for hanging out.

Speaker 12 (01:08:08):
Him Mansa, thanks for having me as always.

Speaker 6 (01:08:10):
Of course, so you just mentioned that you think he
could be successful, just not with the Lakers.

Speaker 5 (01:08:15):
I said to Steve that I was a little bit
surprised that JJ took.

Speaker 6 (01:08:18):
This job, or reportedly has taken this job, because if
I were him, I would have a bad taste in
my mouth.

Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
You tell me you want me.

Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
I am your choice, everybody knows it. Then I hear,
oh I'm not your number one choice. Oh you've offered
the job to somebody else, but he turned it down.
Oh now I'm back to being your choice. That just
would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Is this
relationship already starting on a bad note?

Speaker 12 (01:08:45):
Well? I think that if it were with any other franchise,
I could see that changing things. But for all the
successes and failures the Lakers have gone through. Their name
still means a lot. So I think that there's almost
nothing to lose if he succeeds and does really well
well credit to him and he you know, jumped into

(01:09:06):
fire and was able to prove a lot of people wrong.
If he doesn't do well well, look, the Lakers haven't
had the ability in their head coaching position since Still
Jackson retired in twenty eleven. Even when you consider a
lot of those quick roster turnovers with the head coaching spot,
how to do with the previous for ant office, you

(01:09:27):
take into the fact that ever since it's been Jeanie
Buss and Rob Polinka, they've had you know, Luke Wall
and Frank Vogel, Darvin Hammond out JJ Reddick as a
head coach within a five year span, and so I
think with that there's certainly an avenue that JJ Reddicks
can have success. As you know, monste great basketball player,

(01:09:48):
great basketball mind, can relate to a Lebron because of
the podcast in a relationship equity, but he can also
relate to role players because he was one. So I
think that he can show that those qualities will put
them in a position to succeed. I think my concern
about JJ has more to do with all the external
variables that the Lakers are inheriting that will make this

(01:10:11):
a challenging job. But if he winds up getting fired
before sport your contract is over, I don't think it's
going to hurt him. It'll just be seen as, Hey,
now he has the experience as a head coach, and
we'll see what other openings are available at that point.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
For Mark, we have the draft coming up this week,
and you look at these mock drafts and there's a
lot of players from France. I mean, I'm seeing most
projections three of the top eight players in this draft
from France. And with all due respect to great players
like Giannis or the Joker or Luca, they.

Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
Don't move the needle. I mean, in the United States
of America, we still are drawn to our own in
terms of who we gather around as our stars. And
I dare say Leb and Steph are still the two
biggest stars in the NBA, even as they approached the

(01:11:04):
ends of their career. And I'm just looking at this draft.
I know we got the two Yukon guys, but man,
this is going to be an anonymous draft, and even
with Wemby.

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
I mean, we'll see where Wemby goes, and he had
some great moments on a by the way, a San
Antonio team that had the exact same record this year
as they had last year, twenty two and sixty, which
is amazing. But I mean, how do you feel about
this rush of all these foreign players infiltrating the NBA.

(01:11:36):
Are you, like me, wondering if that's really going to
be a positive in terms of marketing the NBA's future.

Speaker 12 (01:11:44):
Well, it's hard for me to say it's a negative
when there's been so much global growth and the TV
contracts they're about to resign are going to be astronomical
and make this TV contract look like relative pennies. I
also think that the broader importance is how well these

(01:12:06):
players are playing. But all those caveats aside. I think
one thing that does help the NBA with its marketability
is having American stars because it relates to the domestic audience.
And I think the bigger thing having superstars having that
charismatic personality that can appeal to so many different audiences.

(01:12:29):
You know, the young people watching the game, the older
people familiar with the history, of the game or even
the casual NBA fan, And so I think that the
language of how they play is universal. The way Nikola
Jokicenianasantotokumpo and Luka Doncri picture one Banamo, all those players

(01:12:50):
are entertaining to watch. But I don't think that they
always have the charismatic personality that can appeal to a
general audience. I think ya this has that. But when
you look at Luca and the Yo Kitchen in particular,
they're very stoic. They'd rather let their games speak for itself.
And look, I'd rather them be more about substance and sizzle.

(01:13:13):
But I think to your broader point, when you're trying
to market to a general audience domestically, it's more ideal
that you have a charismatic personality. But with that being said,
it's not like this is going to put the NBA
in dire strait. It is a global game. They do
try to appeal to a global audience, and with this
TV contract like they're just going to be continue to
get better and better. But I will validate your broader

(01:13:36):
point that it is good to have domestic stars in
the league.

Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
Quickly here, Mark, we started talking to you, and we
talked about the Lakers, we talked about.

Speaker 6 (01:13:44):
The draft, and yet we don't even mention the new
NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.

Speaker 5 (01:13:50):
Now, I know Steve hates them because there's a reason.

Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Yeah, but it's not just him.

Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
It's it's almost like day one.

Speaker 6 (01:13:57):
And then it was like people are like, all right,
we quick moved on. Do they not have the substance,
the grit, the flashiness.

Speaker 5 (01:14:05):
Everything that you would want in a team.

Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Do they just not have it?

Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
What is it?

Speaker 5 (01:14:10):
Why do I feel like we just moved on so
quickly from the Celtics winning.

Speaker 12 (01:14:14):
Yeah, I think that they have all the right ingred
and so they have star power, they have role players,
they have the history of the Celtics perand I mean
the fact that they now league the league in titles
once again. I think it's really just the function of
how the NBA calendar works and how we get a
lot more enamored about the draft and free agency. I mean,
to tie the point that you were making here. I

(01:14:36):
remember talking to Bob Myers when he was the Warriors
general manager, and I was asking guys on the team
the ultimate first world problem of how long do you
actually enjoy the championship, and he was relaying, you know,
he's on the championship parade bus in twenty eighteen, and
instead of soaking that in, he's getting stressed out about
making sure that he's gained back to the facility on

(01:14:59):
time or draft work out later that afternoon. And that
like moment kind of illustrated, like, man, like what are
we doing here? But that's the function of just the
NBA schedule and how you know, once you win it,
now it's about retooling to try to defend it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Who would you have voted for, Jalen Brown or Chason
Tatum is Finals MVP.

Speaker 12 (01:15:19):
I think Jalen Brown is more deserving because of his
defense on Luka Dacija. I was actually talking to as
trainer earlier this week, and he was saying that like
he trained to be able to pick him up court
to wear him down. But I would also argue that
I would have thought of an X factor like Drew
Holliday that huge Game two performance. He is a great
two way player. But I think if I had to

(01:15:40):
choose between Jalen Brown Jason Tatum, I would have chosen
Brown Tatum. He didn't score necessarily well, he was a
good playmaker, but I think Jalen Brown offered a lot
more on defense. But I will end with this, I
think I'm more encouraged with how they are as a duo,
where it seems very clear that they're learning curves earlier

(01:16:00):
in their career. We're all just tactical exis and o's.
It wasn't about personality conflicts or two's team is it.

Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
So?

Speaker 12 (01:16:07):
I think that this duo is just scratching the surface
for how many titles they can win together.

Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
Oh, we've been saying that we've had six different champions
in the last six years. I'm hoping as a Celtic
hater that their run is going to be stopped at one.
And I like their players, but they're the Celtics, all right, Mark,
great stuff. We'll talk to you again next week.

Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 12 (01:16:27):
I appreciate you guys having the best Saturday show.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
There we go. Thank you very much. That's one for
the tapes, Mark Medina.

Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
There are Fox Sports ready to NBA Insider on the
other side, we'll talk about what to look ahead this
sports week.

Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
This is Fox Sports Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Steve Hartman and Monsie Belanios Here Fox Sports Saturday, coming
Alive from the tirag dot com studios. Want to thank
the crew today, Brian Finley, be Fenn, brilliant on the
updates as always Mary mc of course she's.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
Playing music. I don't know, but I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:17:03):
It's usher Man Sure Confessions.

Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Part two right, this is like I know Usher, I.

Speaker 6 (01:17:11):
Don't know, but this song doesn't sound familiar. It was
when when he came out and was like, I cheated
and I got to tell my baby mama.

Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
Yeah, yeah, Patrick got me today, and uh, good job Patrick,
I'm so happy. Oh I think, I think. Yeah, that
was a little confused question. But well, obviously with Michael,
I mean my dear friend, former partner, I mean Monsei.
Last week I was I was a step dad, like

(01:17:41):
a half.

Speaker 8 (01:17:41):
This is it discounts as another half, doesn't That means
my problem?

Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
When I worked with Michael Thompson, he was always promising
me that we would do a show from the Bahamas.

Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
I've never been to the Bahamas. He lied to me.

Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
He told me he would someday be the Prime Minister
of the Bahamas. Don't doubt it, and he never delivered.
I love Michael, but he is one of the strangest
people I've ever done in my life.

Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
It's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
He is literally when we made it official he would
be my new partner on what was then the Lakers
station because he was also going to be the radio commentator,
which he still does. His former teammates Coop cap Magic
go down the line. They literally like told me, like,

(01:18:30):
you have no idea what you just.

Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
Signed up for?

Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
And then did you say he doesn't have any idea
what he signed up for?

Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
My favorite was Byron Scott. So I had heard that
when they were teammates with the Lakers that Michael was
sort of toying with Byron, like because I'm taller than you,
and I got this long reach, like if we were boxing,
you would get nowhere near me. And he just kept
annoying Byron, who's an Inglewood kid, right, and so Byron

(01:19:00):
just got tired of and just decked him. Oh nice, Now,
I asked Michael, and he goes, that has happened, pure dip, pure.
So I ended up doing this show where Byron was
my I was hosting the show and I asked him
about the story.

Speaker 3 (01:19:13):
I said he was he verified. I said, can I
bring you on as a surprise guest on the radio show.
He goes, I'd love it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
No, I'm like there with Michael Victor Bregg and I'm like, hey,
we got a we got a special guest, special guest.
Welcome to the show. And Byron comes out and goes,
I knocked you out, Michael. I almost fell out of
my seat. Michael's very strange for him.

Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
He knocked him out, He knocked him out. Run on
the chin. All right, So we got the game seven.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
We're definitely looking forward to, yes, and also this game
between the Fever and the Sky to march.

Speaker 5 (01:19:52):
After the game, Yeah, there was a game that Chicago
just played at nine a m. Yeah, our time, Pacific
time here in La. I was aid, you a w
NBA game at nine in the morning.

Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
And people are watching, and people are watching. No, it
was great.

Speaker 5 (01:20:04):
This was gonna be a fun one.

Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
Okay, So what do you think is gonna happen? Are
we gonna see anything? Because you know the instigator has
to be Angel Raes or Kennedy Carter. Well that would
be a little bit, that's right.

Speaker 5 (01:20:17):
Yeah, And she's been still playing really well. She plays,
she's one of their leading scores.

Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
And well, there they have sort of forgotten about Carter
since the last game, because once Angel dropped the hammer
on Caitlin, no one was talking about the hip check anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
So maybe Carter wants to get back in the.

Speaker 5 (01:20:35):
News, right, you know, help her friend out, Angela.

Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
Do you think you'd ever see Caitlin Clark retaliate like
she would say, I've had enough of this.

Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
I got to stand up for myself.

Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
I don't think so, but you never know.

Speaker 3 (01:20:48):
Could it help her
