tyraq dot com. The way tire buying should be. You know,
I wasn't always a lebron basher holl that thought. There
are two types of people in the world, those who
are focused and those who think they are focused. I'll
(00:48):
give you an example involves the world's greatest cab driver. Now,
this dude was focused. One day, he pulls up to
a stop and a naked lady gets you into his car.
He turns around to greet her, realizes she's naked, and
he stares at her. She gets angry and says, what,
(01:09):
you've never seen a naked lady before? He said, of
course I have, but I don't see a purser or wallet.
So how do you plan on paying me? Now that's
the man who's focused on his business. You know, when
Lebron headed to Miami, took his talents to Miami in
twenty ten. I think he was focused. He wanted to
(01:31):
win a championship. He'd been in the league seven years,
hadn't had one. He went to the finals four years,
won two championships. When he went back to Cleveland out
of guilt, he wanted to win a championship. He did
it quite an accomplishment. When he came to Los Angeles,
he wanted to win a championship. And although I do
(01:53):
not think the Bubble Championship deserves an asterisk, because everybody
was in the same boat all time, off is not
Lakers had some older bodies not having to travel four
months or not having to play for four months to
lick their wounds and not having to travel, they benefited
more than anybody else. But regardless, he won championships with
(02:16):
three organizations. Now I knew all about the Lebron hullabaloo.
While he was at Saint Vincent Saint Mary's High School.
I was in Michigan with CBS Radio. One day, I
took a drive down to Cleveland from Detroit. It's only
a two hour drive, nice little drive around the lake.
I wanted to see him play in person. It was
probably around February or March of two thousand and three,
(02:37):
and I was impressed. I saw an NBA body. I
saw a big dude with guard skills. I saw an
unselfish player and someone who looked to me like he
was very focused on his craft. I said to myself,
could I project him in an NBA game? Yeah? And
the next year he was in the NBA. And he's
(02:58):
clearly lived up to the hype. Something happened earlier today
that causes me to wonder if we might start to
see a focused Lebron. Now, that might take a little
bit more to get me convinced, but he's got my attention. Obviously,
he opted out of his contract because rather than you know,
(03:22):
accept the player option in cluct fifty one million. This year,
he is eligible for the maximum three year, one hundred
and sixty two million dollar deal. However, it's been reported
that Lebron James might be willing to work with the
Lakers on a new deal that would come in below
(03:42):
the maximum. Why that would open up potentially a twelve
point nine million mid level exception opportunity that Rob Polenka
might be able to take. Advantage of to sign quote
an impact player, what kind of impact player?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Hell, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I know, you know, we're hearing the name Klay Thompson
out there, and that might be cool because maybe Michael
Thompson can come out of retirement. He can play with
his set also be like a father son game every night.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
But I digress.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
I'm even hearing James Harden's name bannite about. We'll talk
about this with Mark Mdeen at midnight. But according to
Rich Paul. Paul told ESPN on Saturday that Lebron's fairly
adamant about exuding all efforts to improve the roster, and
he is prioritizing a roster improvement now. The last time
(04:39):
Lebron was a free agent, that was twenty eighteen, he
joined the Lakers. He got a four year, one hundred
and fifty four million dollar deal, and then in twenty
twenty two, he signed a two year, ninety eight million
dollar deal which included the player option for the upcoming season,
which he's now opted out of. And now again, Lebron
is eligible to sign a three year, hundred and sixty
(05:00):
two million dollars MAX contract to return to the Lakers
because he's not a free agent, but he's also eligible
to sign with any other team in the NBA for
a maximum one to fifty seven to five over the
next three seasons. Yeah, that's simply not gonna happen. Okay,
let's not be silly. He's going nowhere. By the way,
Lebron turns forty this year, and the NBA limits contracts
(05:24):
for players over thirty eight years old to three year
maximums now. Lebron currently, as you know, the oldest active
player in the NBA, and frankly, on any given night,
he shows no signs of slowing down. Not a great
defender anymore, but give it up. I mean, he averaged
almost twenty six points a game this year, eight assists,
seven rebounds. All NBA Third Team got the Lakers into
(05:46):
the play in tournament, got a number seven seed. They
battled Denver but lost. They lost to the better team.
And Lebron has always said that he wanted to retire
as a Laker. At least he said it, you know,
at the All Star weekend back in February. He says, quote,
I'm a Laker. I'm very happy being a Laker in
the last six years, and hopefully it stays that, we mean,
hopefully you can do whatever you want. He's gonna stay
(06:07):
as a Laker, especially since his son was just drafted
the other day. But here's what's interesting. If Lebron does
take less and people have done this, Tom Brady, im
sure did it, Darren Rodgers did it. I think Patrick
Mahomes did it the way he structured his contract a
few years ago. And really the only other team, if
(06:30):
you really want to get silly about this, that is,
in theory, a championship could tender. I put that in
air quotes with maximum salary cap space are the Philadelphia
seventy six ers. In theory, James could also orchestrate a
sign and trade deal, or he could go anywhere he
wants for as little as a veteran minimum. But that
(06:51):
ain't gonna happen. He ain't going to Phoenix. He's not
going to Philadelphia. He's gonna stay with the Lakers. And
the question remains is is this flirtation with perhaps showing
that they might really be focused on actually really wanting
to win, because don't tell me, show me. But at
(07:12):
the very least, it appears Lebron will take some sort
of a pay cut for the twenty four to twenty
five season. The maximum salary he could receive a fifty
is a million and a half lesson was his option.
Becoming a free agent, he can now negotiate a no
trade clause and maybe even secure a longer term. The
bottom line is this, this is all speculation. The Lakers
(07:34):
just hired as Buddy J. J.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Reddick.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
He's got a four year contract. They just drafted Brownie.
The theory is Lebron might have an extra bounce in
his step and if he is willing to take less
money to get another player that would be deemed an
impact player, that only makes this upcoming season and the
storylines that are going to revolve around a coach who's
(07:56):
never coached and a son who's was a backup player
at USC for a team that win eight and twelve. Look,
the storylines are going to right themselves, but should somehow
the Lakers contend, it makes the storylines even better. Now,
at the end of the day, do I really think
Lebron's gonna take substantially less money and they're really going
(08:17):
to get an impact player that's going to close the
gap between the Lakers in Denver or the Lakers in
Dallas or OKC or Minnesota. And you know, let's not
forget Golden State didn't going anywhere. They're going to be
a challenge. Phoenix will always be a challenge. The West
is getting ever more crowded. So at the end of
the day, will all of this really manifest itself in
(08:40):
a way it will create the Lakers, create an opportunity
where the Lakers actually become a more viable contender for
an actual championship. Do I really think at the end
of the day Lebron will really take significantly less money
to go out and find that additional player to bolster
the roster to support not just him but Anthony Davis.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Hell no, it's not gonna happen, but.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's fun to talk about. Yeah, coming up, we bring
in Jason Hershorn or in NFL GHO, it's time to
talk to NFL. There's a lot of stuff happening. Teams
are gonna be in camp in a couple of weeks,

We are coming to you live from the Tyrek dot
Com studios here in Las Vegas. Will take you up
to three am Pacific six am Eastern. Just getting Started's
welcome and a gentleman an award winning NFL College Football Writers.
Resume includes NFL dot Com as be Nation Sports Illustrated,
(10:43):
also co founder of the Leap Packers newsletters. Say hello
to Jason Hershorn, Jason, Harry.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Buddy having great Bernie, how's it going good?
Speaker 2 (10:52):
It's good to get you back.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Man.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
We're really getting into your season year in a couple
of weeks, and I know you'll be busy and there's
already a lot to talk about to start in Dallas.
Jason getting word that quote, I say it's an air
quotes Mike McCarthy getting fed up with Jerry Jones. What
that means, I'm not quite sure, although we know Jerry
likes to meddle, but he's in a contract year. Dak's
(11:15):
in a contract year. Do you think these things start
to sort themselves out before opening kickoff in September? Or
is there real trouble in paradise in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Well, in terms of the contract, I don't know how much,
if anything, is going to be quote unquote sorted out
prior to the start of the regular season. There is
a scenario where I suppose they can get a deal
done for let' say see the lamps one of their
core players, who's young and therefore is likely to survive
whatever change could happen next offseason. But Dak Prescott seems
(11:47):
like they're very comfortable going into the final year of
his contract. Sorry that next year. Whether that's like Walks
because they can't franchise dag In signed to a meal deal, whatever,
that is, same thing with the head coach. It does
appear as though everything in Dallas is going to be
predicated on the success or failure of the twenty twenty
four seasons.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Now, that's well said, and what's interesting is it's in
a state of flux. So my understanding that Prescott's current
contract carries a capit of over fifty five million for
twenty twenty four, so it would be wove the Coleboys
to sort anything out before the season starts. In three
weeks ago, they claimed they were all in on Prescott,
even though they're not fully committed. It seems like a
(12:27):
real deletma. I know, didn't want to go back to
the you know, the the Quincy Carter Drew Henson years.
But Prescott can't win in the playoffs. What percentage chance
do you give Dallas of actually signing Dack to something
before the season starts.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I don't think it's very high. I'm not saying the
chance is zero, but it's not a situation like we
see with the Miami Dolphins into a tongue of a
loo or the Gregady Packers and Jordan Love. Both of
those teams have actively worked towards a long term deal.
Now with the Cowboys, Dak Prescott is not as pure
as though they are particularly serious about doing so right now,
(13:06):
because you know, this is a team, as you put it,
they have not had that success in the playoffs that
they wanted. They shall have not been back to the
NFC title game since the nineties, So they may very
well go down the route of the Minnesota Viking, through
which I mean they have a quarterback that they think
is really good, someone that they can win with, but
has not had that success in the playoffs ultimately, and
(13:29):
they just finally hit the reboot buttons there, and in
the case of the Cowboys, hit the reboot button as
a head coach as well. If they don't see that success,
it really looks like their success and failures this season
is going to determine a lot of those players and
coaches decisions next offseasons.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
So the Lions took care of Jared Goff. I'm glad
you mentioned Tua. They're obviously observing that in Miami. What
happens with TWOA and the Dolphins are they're going to
be able to reach a happy medium, because I don't
feel like the Dolphins are ready to give to a
fifty three million dollars.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
I mean, it's entirely possible that they have to, right like,
even if they don't want to. That is effectively the
market value for a veteran contract playing at or around
that level at this point. You know, it's the same
thing with the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love maybe A
entered the offen expecting to pay something between let's say
forty five million annually to fifty million annually, but the
(14:24):
market has moved. You know, Trevor Lawrence is also signed
a big deal, and those agents are very aware of
those deals. But the way the contracts work in the
NFL is credited how the market has moved over the
last few seasons at that position. So in the case
of the Dolphins, they have signaled for a while that
they intend to extend through a tongue of ala. I
(14:45):
don't think it's that likely that we get too week
one and he doesn't have that extension. The money there
is a little more of a question than it is
for a player like Jordan loves the Packers. It seems
like they really have most of the frames that deal
in place, just a matter of strung sure, and they're
still working on that component that's for those deals how
whatever form they take to get done, not just prior
(15:06):
a week one. But I wouldn't be surprised that they're
both locked in prior to training camps.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yeah, these guys don't grow on trees. It can be
a real dilemma. We're talking with Jason Hershorn, Award winning
NFL college football writer. He's been with NFL dot coms,
be Nation, Sports Illustrated, co founder of the Leap of
Packers newsletter. What's happening with Brandon Ayuka? The forty nine
Ers wasn't long ago he said he wanted to be
a forty nine Er for life, and now I'm hearing
(15:31):
he's mentioned the Steelers as a potential landing spot. What's
happening there?
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Well, what's happening there is he and his agent are
also aware how the market has moved. You know, they've
seen that Justin Jefferson contract. Now brand Ayu' is not
justin Jefferson, but the market has moved top receivers into
the high end of the twenty million dollars per year
to thirty million dollars per year area. And Brandon Auk
is just coming off a fantastic season and it's over right,
(15:59):
so he has this leverage. He knows it. You want
to lock in the biggest deal for himself possible, and
he's not willing to take a hometown discount. This is,
by the way, also the case of some degree with CD,
Lamb and Dallas. All of these top receivers who are
currently going into a contract year or in some cases
are playing on like a franchise that that's just the
situation for them.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Now.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
The forty nine ers still have enough levers to force
him to play for them this year. I think one
way or another that happens. Dox Ceedee Lamb or Brandon
Nyuk is going to sit out the twenty twenty fourth
season because he doesn't get the contract he wants. But
it's a bit of a pimple for them. If they
do pay Brandon Ayuk, then next offseason, there's going to
(16:40):
be a reckoning with some of the other players because
of the salary cap. You know it could it be
Deebo Saguals last season with the team if that happens.
Could it be maybe George Kittles last season if that happens.
These are all really really good players and players that
that team relies upon. But at a certain point you
have to make decisions one over the other based on
the numbers in those contracts. Brandon Ayuk is younger than
(17:03):
those guys. That's your injuries lately than those guys. So
if he gets that money, then I do think that
one of the other big, big names in San Francisco
is not going to be there in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, you said that, Well, it's going to be hard
to imagine that San Francisco is able to retain all
of this capital. Recently, you compared himself to Lamborghini, and
you are right. You have a spectacular year and they're
bet with him. On the field, he told the Niners,
if you can't afford a Lamborghini, you can't have one. Now,
to be clear, it's my understanding he has a fourteen
(17:37):
Brandon Ayuk a still on a contract a club option
will be big fourteen million this year, and then he
can hit unrestricted free agency after this year. But if
he's not paid going into the season, you think Brandon
Auk is able to put that behind him go out
have a good year or is that going to linger?
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Well, it's very basically incentivized to put together the best
performance he can. I fit the contract year right, because
even it's the forty nine Ers, let's say, are not
going to retain him after the twenty twenty four season
for whatever reason. If he's coming off of the spectacular year,
he's going to get all the money in free agency, right.
He doesn't have to be the best player of his position,
has the most leveraged at his position. If that happens,
(18:18):
he's still going to get paid, whether it's the Steelers,
which he's kind of signaled, or some other team that
needs a wide receiver next offseason. So I don't think
that that part is going to be an issue. We've
seen contract your status push players to new territory before,
so help permitting I affect a good year from him
if he's going to play out his current contract, I.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Want to jump to Pittsburgh. I like Justin Fields. I
don't think he's a major league quarterback. The numbers bear
that out, and I understand in Pittsburgh he'll make a
throw that people say, cheese. His kid's got a Hall
of Fame arm, and then the next will be, oh,
now we know why he's ten and twenty eight and
he completes, you know, fifty one percent of his passes.
(18:58):
He's just going to work out in Pittsburgh with Justin
Fields because it feels like the gravit at Straws.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
The answer is probably not, and in part because he's
not going into training camp at least as the starter
that appears to be Russell Wilson. Wilson has had success
in the past in offenses that are similar to the
one that they're going to run with Arthur Smith, the
new offensive coordinator there, so in that way he has
another advantage over Justin Field. So you put it, well,
(19:25):
Fields at his best can be one of the most
spectacular and exciting players in the NFL. The issue, of course,
has been he hasn't played that way consistently at any
point during his NFL career. So while he is still
very young, while he still has upside. And while there's
a reason that late into the twenty twenty three season
the Bears were still seriously considering keeping him, even knowing
(19:47):
that they could replace him in the NFL draft they wanted,
it is still the case that he is a tough
player to bet on over the course of this season
and over the long term. So, you know, unless something
happens to Russell Wilson as forces field into action, I
don't know that we're going to see him a lot,
at least early in the twenty twenty four season. And again,
it's gonna be hard to really get a feel for
(20:09):
what he can do in Pittsburgh if he's not on
the field.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
That's extremely well said. All right, let's have a little
rapid fire. There are some notable NFL droughts that I'm
observing heading into twenty twenty four. Tell me which of
these you think is likely to have the drought broken.
So let's start with the New York Jets. Thirteen years
without a playoff appearance. We know their season got torpedo
(20:33):
last year when Rodgers went down. Did the Jets make
the playoffs this year?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I think yes, but I don't expect them to win
that mission. I think that would happen as a wildcard game.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
The Atlanta Falcons have a similar drought, not nearly as bad.
It's been six years. They've made a lot of moves.
Now they got Kirk Cousins. So the Falcons find their
way back into the playoffs this year.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
There's obviously a path for that. But picking the NFC
West or the NFC South brother has been so difficult
for a number of years, at least outside of those
Tom Brady seasons. They have a hard time betting on
any of those teams. I don't think any of them
are great. I think, even with the additional Kirk Cousins,
I sold a lot of questions about that defense, So
(21:19):
if I had to guess, I'd say no. But I
don't have a lot of confidence in any one of
those four teams in the nfcas.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
I completely agree. I think one thing that does help Atlanta.
They have the easiest strength to schedule in the NFL
this year, and I think Marhee Morris can coach. I
think you're going to see an effort out of them,
But what you bring up a couple of good points,
there are some speed bumps, all right. The NFC East
has the distinction of twenty years since the last repeat
division winner. So if Dallas can finish the top the
(21:47):
NFC East this season, they'll become the first team to
repeat his champs and so forth. Does that drought get broken?
Speaker 4 (21:55):
I would lean slightly toward yes. Eagles are going to
have a part of that conversation. But they're replacing the
coordinator in the playholler on both sides of the ball.
That's a pretty big transformation. In both cases. They still
have a lot of talent, you can stay on paper,
they have more overall roster talent than the Cowboys, but
(22:16):
there's more coming back in Dallas. They're able to figure
out some things offensively last seasons I think are going
to prove sticking to this season. So I'll give the
edge slightly to the Cowboys there.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Okay, fair enough, This one is a doozy. I think
the Miami Dolphins twenty three years since they playoff win
Now they've been with the playoffs, they just can't seem
to win a game. I feel like after consecutive playoff
appearances under Mike McDaniel, they do break this drought. Your thoughts, I.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Think they do too, right, Like I know They've lost
their last two playoff games, but that requires an important cave,
yet important context. The first of those they played with
a backup quarterback starting, and not just any back, a quarterback,
a seventh round rookie, and this of course was not
bros Hergi starting that game. So now when I think
you have to throw out last season, yes, they lost
(23:11):
the team in general law momentum going down to stretch.
But I do think they have the talent and I
do think they have the right people at the top
that they should be able to win a playoff game
this year.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
You know, I'm glad you mentioned that two years ago, Jason,
because they gave Buffalo a real scare, which shows you
that Miami does have a lot of talent across the board. Finally,
a team near and dear to my heart because I
covered him for ten years, the Lions. They're one of
four NFL franchises that have never made it to a
Super Bowl. However, they're the closest I believe they've never
(23:43):
made a Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. We saw
what happened last year. They brought both their coordinators back.
I'm hearing good things out of Detroit This is a
bold one. Does Detroit finally make their first Super Bowl
appearance this upcoming season?
Speaker 4 (24:00):
You highlighted one of the most important reasons to think
that they could. Ben Johnson, the officip coordinator, did not
leave for our head coaching position. That's such a crucial
piece to their offense, in particular getting what he's done.
And even with that, I think the answer is no.
And I actually don't expect the Lions to win their
division this season. I think they're going to be the
(24:20):
last Mink. They're going to be competitive, but it's just
so hard to maintain that kind of success year to
year when you do not have an elite quarterback. And
Jared goff Law has played very, very well the last
few years. I just don't think he's that player. So
again I'm going to say no.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
You know, I feel like the Green Bay Packers. I
think you're pretty pluged in there. They look scary to me.
Am I wrong, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
I think. I mean that's the obvious other team to
win that division if it was going to go that way.
The offense had a lot going well for them down
to stretch last season, which means a lot considering that
that was the youngest group of pass catchers in modern
NFL history, So they could be that effective with that
young of a group with a first year starting quarterback
and a defense that's for the majority of the season
(25:07):
was unable to stop the life of the Carolina Panthers.
And now they have a new defensive coordinator, They've brought
in some more defensive talent there. Even if that defense
is only the back end of the middle, that team
should be equipped to win that division and make another
big playoff run. So that's the team of that division
that I think is most scared to the rest of
(25:27):
the conference. There's variables there, obviously, the chance that Jordan
Love could backtrack in some way in year two because
the sample size is small, But I think he's the
right guy. I think they have the right head coach.
I think the defense pretty much can only get better,
and if those things happen, I expect them to be
very competitive this season.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Absolutely, Hey, Jason, great stuff as Olle. He's appreciate your insights.
Obviously you've got your finger on the pulse. I look
forward to having you on throughout the NFL season and
joined the rest of your week in Jason, you as
well take care burnet. That is Jason Hirschoran. Obviously you
can see he's got his finger on the pulse. And
(26:06):
there are a lot of really interesting storylines and I'm
going to visit revisit some of these later in the show.
It's upon us. I mean, when you wake up Monday morning,
it'll be July first, and your attention is simply going
to turn to the NFL, and we are here for it.
It's going to be a sensational season. I believe another
story in the news involving a former number one pick,
(26:29):
and you might charcole, you might laugh, but at the
end of the day, it's really not funny. I'll share
with you coming up. But first let's go to our guy,
Kevin Warren, the chef.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Yeah, Bernie. About an hour or so ago, a late
piece of an NBA news sham Sharania saying that Bulls
forward Patrick Williams intends to sign a five year, ninety
million dollars deal to return to Chicago this season. And
in Major League Baseball, we had the Dodgers Giants game
and went. It was a walk off win last night
(27:01):
for the San Francisco Giants, as Brett Wiseley had a
two run home run. Tonight, it went to eleven innings,
where the Dodgers eventually do win it fourteen to seven.
Shoey Otani with his twenty six home run la exploding
for seven runs in that top of the eleventh inning.
Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, Braves over the Pirates two
(27:21):
to one. Paul skeins another outstanding start. He did take
the no decision, but otherwise went six innings, had nine strikeouts,
still allow six hits, but nine strikeouts and two walks
in his el so far in his outstanding rookie season
right now stands at two point zero six. Elsewhere in
(27:42):
Major League Baseball, the Lla Angels don't look now.
Speaker 7 (27:44):
They're on a roll.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
They've won their six game in a row, this time
in extra innings against the Detroit Tigers six ' five.
The Minnesota Twins over the Seattle Mariners five to one.
The defending champion Texas Rangers. They're slumping right now. They've
dropped six straight. After the Orioles win, It's six ' five.
Corey Sieger did have to leave the game after being
hit by a pitch on his left wrist, and initial
(28:06):
X rays were negative. However, the risk is swollen. The
San Diego Padre is also red hot right now. They've
won five in a row. They win eleven to one
at Boston as Manny Machado two home runs five runs
batted in for the game Blue Jays over the Yankees
nine to three. One So did not play due to
a bruised hand. Vatimir Gerrow Junior one home run, six
(28:28):
RBIs for the Blue Jays and in Copa America Argentina
three to zero after they beat Peru to nil in
Miami in front of sixty five thousand fans, Lionel Messi
did not play due to a growing injury. Tou Le
was eliminated after they drew against Canada nil nil rounded sixteen.
(28:49):
At the Euros, Germany shutout Denmark two nil. There's are
weather delay of more than twenty minutes late in the
first half, but the game eventually was finished. Switzerland did
eliminate Italy to nil, and Fox will carry both of
Sunday's games from Europe back to Bernie.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
All right, Jef, warm up those vocal cords. Man be
one thirty before you know it, all right, So many
many moons Ago Lsu had a phenomenal quarterback. He won
a national championship, and this guy just did about everything
except sel popcorn and he went on. Al Davis was
enamored with him, drafted him number one, and what a
(29:29):
turn his life has taken over the past couple of decades.
He will always go down as having been an NFL
bus but that doesn't mean his life has to be
a bust. But when you consider what happened to JaMarcus
Russell this past week, I don't know how you're fired
as a volunteer assistant coach when you're doing pro bono
(29:50):
work for your former high school, your alma mater, Williamson
High School in Mobile, Alabama. And I don't know how
you parlay it at end to being on the wrong
end of a lawsuit. But it might have something to
do with fundraising. And it turns out that JaMarcus Russell,
who again has been a volunteer assistant coach at his
(30:11):
old high school in Boby, Alabama, went on a little
fundraising venture and he found a local business owner who
was generous enough with his large SS, a gentleman by
the name of Chris Knowles, who decided he would donate
seventy four thousand dollars to the school and it was
all because JaMarcus Russell, hometown hero, approached him about a
(30:33):
donation to help the Williamson football team purchased weight room equipment.
All good, right, Unfortunately, the school never got the check
and allegedly JaMarcus Russell deposited the money in a credit
union and then shortly after depositing the money, he threw
(30:54):
fifty five thousand dollars of it. I think the rules
frown upon that. That's to my not college. So in
addition to being fired as a coach again, I don't
know how the hell you're fired as a volunteer assistant,
but it happened. They told JaMarcus Russell, you're not welcome
here anymore, not up in here. You're not allowed to
(31:14):
be on campus. That was a statement from the Mobile
County check that mobile Mobile Alabama County Public School officials. However,
JaMarcus Russell apparently ignored the memo or didn't get the
memo because he decided he was beIN a tenant event
for the football team this past week, in which again
he was told he was not welcome now. Earlier in
(31:37):
the week, it was reiterated to JaMarcus Russell he's not
only not permitted to be around the football program or
around the school campus. But don't even think about it, right,
he's thirty eight years old now. He was a star
at Williamson High School. He went to LSU. He threw
for almost seven thousand yards fifty two touchdowns, and again,
(31:58):
he was the first pick in the two thousand and
seven NFL Draft by the Raiders. Actually started twenty five
games for the Raiders over three season, and his career
not great. Eighteen touchdowns, twenty three interceptions, fifty two percent
completion rate. And you cannot not mention JaMarcus Russell without
(32:21):
the moniker attaching to his name that he's perhaps the
biggest NFL draft bust because of the incredible expectations. I mean,
he was a package. And oh, by the way, I
know you're wondering how much money did JaMarcus Russell make
during his short NFL career. Oh nothing, thirty six point
four million. Where is that money now? I don't know,
(32:44):
and I'm guessing JaMarcus Russell doesn't know either. How the
mighty have fallen. Sometimes the greatest will just like the
rest of us, sometimes blessed, sometimes curse. But these self
inflicted wounds seem to be stacking up. Will follow the story.
I'm not sure where it goes. Not the kind of
pleasant story you want to tell, but you have to
(33:05):
because JaMarcus Russell at the one time was on top
of the mountain coming up. I really want to give
a guy by the name of Leon Rose his flowers. Now,
certain people, I guarantee you are good, buddy, Jason Smith.
You hear him Monday through Friday from seven to eleven
(33:25):
on these airwaves with Mike Carmon.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
He knows who Leon Rose is.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Well, I'm going to tell you who Leon Rose is,
and I'm gonna give him as flowers. Get a lot
of respect for this guy. I'm Bernie Fraddleworck Company Line

All right back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Coming to you live from the Tirec dot Com Studios
here in Las Vegas. Top of the Hour. We dive
heavily into the NBA with Mark Medina Padina Magic every
midnight every Saturday night at midnight here Pacific time on
the Bernie Fraddle Show. You know, for me, I think
(34:16):
it's an undeniable fact that Major League Baseball is simply
better when the Yankees are good and the Dodgers are good.
The NHL, it's better when the Montreal Canadians are good.
Just is. Certainly the NFL is better when marquee teams
are good and you know who they are. How about
the NBA, Well, Boston and Lakers are typically good, or
(34:40):
at least are in the conversation Knicks having won a
New York Knicks have not won a championship in fifty
one years. But when they're good and it's rocking and
rolling at Madison Square Garden, it's special. It's special. And
I promise you if the Knicks get to the NBA finals, well,
you know they came close with pat Riley in the nineties.
You know what happened with John Starts, and they couldn't
(35:01):
get past Michael Jordan. But I mentioned a gentleman by
the name of Leon Rose. Leon Rose has been around
a long time in the in the in the world
of basketball. He's an executive and attorney. He's a sports agent.
He represented a lot of big names, a lot of
big names. Jolian Biid, Carmelo, Anthony Lebron, James Alan, Iverson,
(35:24):
Rip Hamilton, lots of guys. The list is even a
lot much longer than that. Well, about four years ago,
Leon Rose was named president of the New York Knicks.
And here's where the story begins. When Leon Rose took
over the Knicks four years ago, this was his goal.
(35:46):
Hold on to the franchise's first round picks, acquire picks
from other teams, stockpile tradable contracts, and make it a
point to improve the roster after year. He has done
that in a way that deserves mentioned, and that's why
(36:07):
I'm mentioning it. This past week, the Brooklyn Nets and
the New York Knicks agreed to a trade that, for
my money, is just what the doctor ordered for the
New York Knicks. I don't know anybody need it. Didn't
think had the Knicks just stayed healthy, which they clearly
were not, they would have been in the Eastern Conference
(36:29):
Finals this past season, duking it out with the Boston Celtics.
So the Knicks acquired Michel Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.
And I believe he is a star that the New
York Knicks need twenty points score and I'll tell you
what I'll get to his accolades. But if you look
(36:50):
at the deal and you see how it matches up
against what I just said with respect to what Leon
Rose's mission and charter was sent to package back to
Brooklyn that includes Bojohan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first round picks,
a twenty twenty five protected first rounder that actually belongs
(37:13):
to the Milwaukee Bucks, a twenty twenty eight first round
pick swap, and a twenty twenty six second round pick. Okay,
a bit of a haul, but look what they're getting
back New York. The Knicks are in win now mode.
Just keep your fingers crossed and stay healthy. New York
gets a star that if you just talk to anybody
(37:37):
in NBA circles, that this might be a real match
made in heaven. Michel Bridges joins a team that legitimately
genuinely has championship ambitions and championship capability that is not hyperbole.
They finished this past season with fifty wins, a number
(37:57):
two seed, They had a playoff run, they were one
victory short of the Eastern Conference Finals, and they were
a mass unit. They did not have their full roster.
They ran out of gas. So you tell me if
if they stay healthy, they're not on the short list
and likely to get to the Eastern Conference Finals last year.
(38:21):
Not only that, and here comes the angle of the
story everybody's so jiggy about. Mckel Bridges will rejoin Jalen Brunson,
Dante DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart. They're not calling them the
Nova Knicks. And in case you have had your head
the sand or in Mars and we're not aware. They
were all members of very good Villanova basketball teams. They
(38:43):
were a group of Villanova stars and now they're going
to be stars at Madison Square Garden. Mckel Bridges will
jump right into that starting lineup. And I think the
starting lineup is a little uncertain because there reigning first unit,
which is Brunson, de Vincenzo, ogn Andobe, Julius Randall and
Isaiah Hart. The thing is Hartenstein and Annobi. W are
(39:03):
you unrestricted free agents effective tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
I believe.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
So you don't know one hundred percent what their futures are,
but the truth of the matter is the Knicks I
believe have the makings right now of a team that
he's ready to compete for a championship, not just on paper,
not just in theory, not just hypothetically, but literally. Mckil
(39:30):
bridges brings his significant two way presence to a two
way team. The Knicks were good defensively last year. They
struggled sometimes offensively, but that's because they were hurt. Mckil
bridges was an All defensive team member in twenty twenty two.
An extremely efficient role player, he helped the Phoenix Suns
the sixty four wins. He has also developed as an
(39:53):
individual scorer in Brooklyn, and he carry a very heavy
burden when Kevin Durant was there. So with the Knicks,
he'll be a spot up shooter, He'll be a cutter
like he was in Phoenix. He'll be the first option
on the other side. And the bottom line is the
Knicks and Leon Rose are on the verge of doing it.
Props coming up. Mark Medina Medina Magic, I'm Bernie Frattle.

TI for Medina Magic, Mark Medina, our Fox Sports Radio
(41:00):
NBA Guru. We always ended segment with what will the
new cycle bring next week? And Mark, here we go, buddy.
We're gonna have to go rapid fire because there's a
lot to get to. I want to start with them
with Paul George. Paul George decided that forty eight point
seven million a year is not enough. But it sounds
to me like he just wants to hell out of
La Clippers. I understand he's going to meet with the
(41:23):
Sixers in Orlando. Magic and the Clippers you're a betting man.
Where do you think Paul Georgian's up next year.
Speaker 9 (41:29):
I think Paul George ends up with the Sixers. You know,
the Sixers half cap space to sib no max deal.
It's been their priority to get a wing player Paul
George's caliber to pair up with Joel Embiid and Tyre Smaxy.
So I think that's what's gonna happen. And what's interesting is,
you know, kind of the point of contention of with
(41:50):
the Clippers was the fact that he wanted a four
year deal. They're only offering three year to deal able
to coincide with Kawhi Leonards extension, and so it's it's
surprising because for all the ups and downs, injuries, et cetera.
I thought last season Paul George played his most efficient
at his beast basketball and so I think from that standpoint,
(42:13):
he'd be better off stay and put. But look, it's
the NBA. It's a business. So he'll consider his options
and see what happens.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Yeah, I'm in agreement with you, Mark, especially since they
move into the new Arena next year. Didn't the Clippers
take that into consideration.
Speaker 9 (42:27):
Yeah, they took it into consideration. But another thing also took
into consideration is there's this thing called the second apron
in another year that eats into their ability to build
out a depthful roster. And I think the Clippers most
notably know they got to have some sort of roster
toup because unfortunately it's been inevitable for them that one
(42:48):
or two of their star players in Kawhi Leonard and
Paul George aren't always available. So that's where the rubber
meets the road.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
No, that's exactly why we have you on. This is
upper crust stuff. The Clippers are a bout seventy million
from that apron, and if they try to do something
for James Harden. You bring up a great point there.
Let's jump to Klay Thompson. I feel like he got
his Feelings shirt because they only gave him a two
year deal versus a three year deal. Is it really
as simple as that they're prepared to lose Klay Thompson
(43:17):
over that elusive third year.
Speaker 9 (43:20):
Well, I think there's a lot more layers to that.
I think that you know, he went through last season,
threw some ups and downs with not frankly being the
same player as he was before his ATLA during twenty
nineteen and also deal with a diminished role with coming
off the bench. Now, I think when you talk to
people within the Warriors organization, they feel like that he
(43:42):
did reach kind of a turning point of progress with
accepting embracing that. But I think the other thing is
that he wants to see what the marketplace is going
to dictate. But clearly at the fact that he's an
unfollowing the Warriors on social media and the messaging has
(44:03):
gotten out that he wants out, it seems like there's
been a lot more that's calling behind the scenes where
I think from Clay's perspective, he felt that, you know,
they've been too not necessarily prudent. He understands it's a business,
but the idea that he has to play second fiddle
(44:23):
to their priorities. After all, he's done with not just
helping them win championships, but sacrificing his role and earning
that nickname no maintenance for a reason that he would
feel like it's reciprocated. But I think from the Warriors
point of view, they did reciprocate that because they gave
him a max Steel five years ago, even when he
(44:44):
tore his acl so I did not see this coming.
I remember in twenty eighteen Clay talked to me at
his hotel during a charity event. He was saying, I
want to be a warrior for life. I would have
never predicted six years later that sentiment would change. But
here we are.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Think about what you just said a minute ago. This
is a business and everybody loves Klay Thompson, but he's
lost the yard office fastball. Let's just be honest about that. Okay,
So let's flip to the Lakers. Because Lebron ops out,
which we all know he do. He's not going anywhere,
but there are reports a uh Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers,
(45:24):
Tom Brady, he's going to take less money. Maybe if
the Lakers can get an impact player. I can only
think of three names, and these are all long shots
in my opinion, James Hard and Clay Thompson and Jonas
Felt Valentunis.
Speaker 9 (45:38):
Let's add Damar DeRozan in there as.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Well, another thirty five year old guy.
Speaker 9 (45:44):
Well, look, he's been very efficient. I know that the
Bulls had a lot of problems last year, but Damarrow
was not one of them. He's an LA guy. So
maybe there's some hometown discounts there too, But yeah, I
agree with you generally that there are only about four
players that fall into that category. So Lebron James's willingness
(46:05):
to take a pay cut is really on contingent on
where the money is going to. If it's going to
what you were mentioning an impact player, he'll sign up
for it. If it's just to you know, make sure
that Jeanie Busts and the rest of the Bus family
are will they're richer, he'll say, no, thanks, I'll take
the money because I'm Lebron James. So it's really about.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
What's going to happen. I think I'm say it's.
Speaker 9 (46:29):
Really about, well, well, will the money he gives back
helped them build a better roster, and he's had history
of doing that. I mean, we have to keep in
mind when he made that infamous decision taking his talents
to South Beach, he took a relative take cut for
that to happen, as well as Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade,
so that they could have, you know, more roster flexibility
(46:54):
and roster death. So yeah, since then, when he was
in Cleveland, he didn't take pay cuts because I think
part of it was ownership with Dan Gilbert and the
fact that they could still build a competitive roster around him.
But the new labor deal is a lot more prigentitive,
so he's mindful of that. But again it's contingent on
(47:15):
if that pay cut results in more talent.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
And is that talent even going to bridge the gap
closer to Dallas or Denver or Minnesota or Okay, See,
it's all fun to talk about. That's why we do
this segment. I believe it when I see it, I think,
I mean is listen, go ahead, you got the last
word on this.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
You know how I feel.
Speaker 9 (47:35):
Well, Look, things change dramatically in the NBA, and in
the Lakers case, they do have a huge opportunity. Their
roster's full, so it's not like they can sign players
via free agency, but they can do trades and signing trades.
And the fact that D'Angel Russell opted in, you know,
that's a askedt to have because he's an eighteen and
(47:55):
a half million dollars So yeah, right now, right now,
the Lakers are good to make the playans tournament, make
the playoffs, lose in the first round, but all it
takes is one you know, complimentary player, alstar caliber player.
For that to completely change on its head.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
The one sign and trade deal I see happening is
Paul George going to Philadelphia. But that's a conversation for
different day. By the way, speaking of the Clippers, I
love it Russell Westbrook wants to stay for four million
dollars and I guess he just likes living in LA
and likes doing the deal, right. I kind of give
him a pat on the back for that.
Speaker 9 (48:32):
Yeah. I think the other thing is he I think
he's a well aware that the marketplace wouldn't give him
a lucrative deal, so he took the safer out. Yeah,
he loves playing with the Clippers. He wasn't in that
way now. I think what is interesting, though, is that
his role decreased during last season's playoffs, and that was
something that didn't happen the regular season, didn't happen the
(48:54):
previous playoffs. So while he certainly feels more welcome with
the Clippers that he was with the Lakers, and the
Clippers will say the same thing about Russ, actions speak
louder than words, and his role is gained more marginalized
because we're seeing kind of the more of the worst
habits of Russ coming to full bloom.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Moving along, let's talk about the Dejonte Murray deal. I
think it sends a message that the Pelicans believe they're
real contenders next year, and that's another stumbling block in
front of the Lakers.
Speaker 9 (49:27):
Talk about that deal, Mark, Yeah, Well, David Griffin, the
Pelicans vice president of Basquell operation, very clear after they
lost to the Oklahoma City in the first round that
it wasn't time to be complacent. So this is expected
that they would make moves. And so with them gaining
to Jontey Murray, this is someone that I was told
(49:49):
they are trying to get before the trade deadline last year.
It's just that the Hawks were saying no, and at
that point what they had to offer wasn't as enticing.
Now I am surprised that all it took was Dyson
Daniels and Larry Nts and a few draft picks for
the Hawks to say yes. But from the Pelicans end,
they got a traditional point guard. There is a fairly
(50:12):
good chance that they wind up trading braint in Ingram.
You know, I've been told for what it's worth, even
with his playoffs shortcomings in the first round against the Thunder.
They still want to keep them, but it's a matter of,
you know, the dollar number because of the second Apron concerns,
and that might not reach an agreement because so far
it hasn't yet. The same thing with Jonas Valentiunas he's
(50:34):
an unrestricted free agent. They do like him, but again
they're kind of strung because of these cap rules here.
So not only was it to address point guard needs,
but it's also to address a strong likelihood that they're
going to be shipping some guys out with Ingram and
maybe allowing notice Valentiunis to walk as an unrestricted free agent.
Speaker 2 (50:57):
Talk with Mark medinam Adina Magic every Saturday night here
at midnight Pacific time on the Bernie Frattle Show. All Right,
I'm glad you mentioned DeMar Derosen because I always find
a way of the six degrees of Kevin Bacon and
he's NBA deals and I'll tie this together. Patrick Williams
is going back to the Bulls, got himself a nice
(51:17):
five year, ninety million dollar deal and it's a team
friendly deal. But remember this guy was a fourth pick
overall just a few years ago. Chicago loses Alex Caruso.
So now Patrick Williams becomes the Bulls best defender and
a very good two way player. Why do I bring
that up to me? That signals the end of DeMar
De Rosen in Chicago after three years he will be
(51:40):
an unrestricted free agent. How much money do you think
would it take for the Lakers to actually sign him?
Speaker 9 (51:46):
Yeah, that's an interesting question. I don't think the door
is shut with the Bulls necessarily because I think that
to what you said, them trading Alex Caruso, they're probably
going to trade Zach Lavine as well. Maybe that if
anything else solidifies that the Bulls will at least try
to make a run at tomorrow and for what it's worth.
(52:06):
I know things have changed since then and now, but
before last season started, he told me that it was
a big priority of his to try to end his
career in Chicago, that that would mean a lot because
of his time there success. So I don't think that
door has been shut. But so many teams, including the Bulls,
(52:26):
including the Lakers, they've had to be very cash conscious
because of these salary capitals. So what number will it
take for tomorrow to sign I haven't been told a
specific number. I think really it's going to be about
what the roster looks around him that will influence where
he winds up going.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Do you think he is interested the possibly going to La?
Speaker 9 (52:48):
Oh yeah, without a doubt.
Speaker 1 (52:49):
I mean, so's the here's the real call.
Speaker 2 (52:51):
I'm not asking the right question. Is Lebron willing to
take less to match what it would take to bring
tomor de Rosen? Oh?
Speaker 9 (52:58):
Yeah, Tomorrow would fall under that category of impact player.
We have to keep in mind here that demarg Rosen
almost became a Laker two years ago, but then the
Lakers wound up getting Russell Westbrook instead. But you may
recall that prior to kind of that timeline where the
Lakers were near a deal to get Buddy healed from
(53:18):
Sacramento and then all of a sudden they pumped the
brakes because of the Russell Westbrook trade. Lebron James Anthony
Davis also talked to Damian Lillard and demarg Roseen about
possibly be linking up, and that was a real strong possibility.
Damar has connections obviously, being an La native, it means
a lot to him to still be in his hometown here,
(53:42):
so that Yeah, that's a very strong possibility. And if
he if it's a realistic possibility, if him signed with
the Lakers, Lebron would certainly take a pay cut to
make that happen.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Finally, it feels uncomfortable in Miami between Jimmy Butler the Heat.
Obviously they're not going to negotiate an extension right now.
He'll play off the season, likely opt out of his
final year, He'll be an unrestricted free agent. Are they
going to be able to kiss him make up before
the season starts and keep that Heat culture going. It
just doesn't feel like this is a very ideal situation
(54:17):
between Jimmy Butler and the Heat right now, Mark.
Speaker 9 (54:19):
It's not an ideal situation. But I thought that earlier
this summer this meant the end of Jimmy Butler, that
the Heat would try to trade him only because they
felt like, Okay, now's the best time to get something
for him. And because even though I think if it
wasn't the fact that he was eligible for an extension,
(54:40):
they wouldn't have had to say yes or no, the
fact that that conversation took place and they had to
say no, they felt like, you know, that created more
clarity on how there was a disconnect between what Jimmy
wanted what the Heat wanted. But I think that they're
willing to stand pat use next season and has kind
of a bounce back gear for Jimmy, most notably with
(55:03):
his health, because when he's been on the court, he
has been what the Miami Heat want in all their players, competitive, hell,
very productive. So I think it'll be about rectifying everything
next season for both sides and then seeing if that
results in a better extension after next season.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
I just look, I.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Love pat Riley to death, but would he tell Jimmy
Butler to shut his mouth in front of God and everybody?
I just don't believe that's set well with Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 9 (55:30):
It didn't fit well with Jimmy Butler. But look, he
gotten the shouting matches with Eric Spulsra before and shouting
matches with Udonis Haslam, who is like the og of
Heat culture before his retirement. So yeah, I mean, this
isn't the last or time they've argued. Their first time
they've argued certainly won't be the last. And I think
(55:51):
the good thing about Heat culture is they can be,
you know, toe to toe with guys and then they
carry that intensity into the next game as if nothing happened.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
All right, Mark, So Thursday night, July fourth, you'll join
myself and Arnie Spanier at seven twenty Pacific time.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Do you think there'll be.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
Anything substantive the report between now and then? Seriously? Thank you?
Speaker 9 (56:14):
I think so.
Speaker 4 (56:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (56:15):
We're going to be talking about guys in different uniforms.
It will be a lot time.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
Wow, okay, I look forward to that. Then cool, well,
that'll be something, and there'll always be something, and you
know it's amazing. Right on que first day of free agency,
there's all kinds of headlines. Mark great stuff has always
appreciate you, man.
Speaker 9 (56:34):
I appreciate you as well.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
That is Mark Medina, Nina Magic. He joins me every
Saturday night here on Fox Sports Radio and the Bernie
Frattle Show at twelve midnight, and as you can see,
he's very plugged in. And look, the NBA is kind
of winding up with a bang, and then you'll be
turning your attention to the NFL, but already some really
(56:57):
interesting storylines into the upcoming NBA season, which is still
months away. But look, we do this fifty two weeks
a year because there's always news coming up. We rarely
do this, but I really kind of have to give
the Florida Panthers just their flowers ever so quickly, because
(57:18):
Matthew kuld Chuck had a great line after winning the
Stanley Cup, and I believe I said on the show
last Saturday night, I thought Florida.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
Would win it.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
I just didn't think they'd lose four in a row.
I knew Bobrowski would come up big in one game,
and it turns out the Edmonton Oilers were gassed. But
let's get them their final props, because hey, winning the
Stanley Cup ain't so easy, and it's the first time
in history that Florida has ever won it. And we
have a lot of good listeners down there in Miami.
I'm Bernie fradda or comedy lyon from the Las Vegas
(57:46):
Fox Sports Radio Tarrac dot Com Studios. Keep it locked
right here. You're listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. We're back on the Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Come to live from you Tarac dot
Com studios here in Las Vegas. Take you up to
three am Pacific, six am Eastern.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
The NHL Draft.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
The first round of the NHL Draft was hosted right
here in Las Vegas at the Spear yet other night,
and something interesting happened that very few people probably noticed,
but a lot of the right people noticed. There were
no public congratulations for the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers
during the draft. But traditionally, when teams first go up
(58:29):
to the podium to make their initial selection on Day
one of the draft, they typically take a moment to
congratulate the season's Stanley Cup champion. That did not happen
this year. Not once did someone step up to the
podium to give the Florida Panthers a little love for
winning I believe the toughest trophy in all the sports.
(58:50):
Even Alex Bomgartner tweeted it out. It's just can't remember
the last time it's ever happened. Usually multiple teams give
a shout out to the winner. Maybe the league is
a little upset that they play a really tough, aggressive
style that's physically exhausting and they took the offense out
of the Well, it doesn't matter, but it didn't happen.
But Matthew Kachuck did have one great line after winning
(59:11):
the cup. He shout it out to his former team.
You know, the Panthers beat Edmonton two to one game
seven last week and during the postgame interview, Kuchuk and
this is what hockey players do.
Speaker 1 (59:24):
Man kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (59:25):
They Paido montch his former supporters in Calgaries that shout
out to my fans in Calgary, just so you know,
I couldn't let Edmonton win. Kuchuk was the sixth player
picked in the twenty sixteen entry draft by Calgary and
he had a contract dispute, so he's on his way.
But one guy I think is probably happy, our guy
(59:46):
Shay Moganngard and a Shay. We talked about this last
week and I'll talk about this with Eddie Garcia too.
I'll be doing some Mallor shows coming up in a
couple of weeks. Edmonton, I believe Shaves knocked out the
Kings three years in a row. I don't say that
to be derogatory, just a fact, right.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
It is a fact. Yes, it's a it's a sad fact.
Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
And so I guess you know, with all due respect
to the starved Canadians who haven't seen a team hoist
a cup in candidate since ninety three on a scale
of one to ten. How happy were you to see
Edmonton be denied?
Speaker 1 (01:00:18):
I was ecstatic, Bernie.
Speaker 5 (01:00:20):
I was actually here at Fox Sports Studios and I
was actually in charge of covering the game, forgetting the
edits and all that in post game. So when I
tell you, seeing Connor McDavid sulking was one of the
greatest moments of my life. It was one hundred percent
something I needed and I was holding I'm not gonna
lie to you, I was holding my breath up until
(01:00:41):
that first goal from Florida. But until then my heart
was beating, my hands were sweating. I was just like,
oh my goodness. But the minute they got the first goal,
the biggest weight was lifted off of my back, Bernie,
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
And you know then I was because I'd kind of
talked boldly that I thought Florida would win. But then
what a couple of minutes later Edmond did even to score,
and you go, oh no. But then Bobrowski settled down,
you know, and then we come to find out Edmonton
kind of ran out of gas. I think, just coming
back from three to zero emptied the tank. Yeah, good
good stuff. She you were a fatic and you're fatic
(01:01:19):
the chef. I think you had some similar thoughts.
Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
Did you not on the Stanley Cup on Edmondton. I mean,
I was no fan of Edmonton, but I didn't really
pay much attention to this Stanley Cup final. I did
watch a little bit of Game seven, but I did
have a dislike of the Oilers, so that was nice
to see, but not really. I don't really feel much
toward Florida either, so it was a very neutral Stanley Cup.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
But I might have overestimated your fandom of the Kings.
I know the Kings have a much stronger fan base
than people realize.
Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
Like I do like the Kings, and I really am
upset to how the Oilers beat them the last what
three years in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
But yes.
Speaker 6 (01:01:57):
It was again, Florida was never a team I was
a fan, so seeing them when you know, didn't do
a whole lot more than seeing Edmonton lose, I guess,
is what I mean to say.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
I thought it was sort of interesting that not one
nobody gave them their props at the draft, and I
thought that was well, it didn't go unnoticed. Mark Ramsey,
did you have any thoughts on this or you kind
of removed yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
From the hockey.
Speaker 10 (01:02:18):
Oh I was, you know, I'm just happy somebody that
that Florida got their first one. So that's always a
good thing when a new team wins the Cup.
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
I just remember doing Malor Show when the playoffs were
just getting started, and sure enough Edmondton knocked out the
Kings for the first year in a row. And I
know how that can be. I know how that can
be when you've got a favorite team and you've got
a situation where you know, it starts to have a
cumulative effect. It's like the Minnesota Twins with the New
York Yankees. The Minnesota Twins are always good in the
(01:02:48):
regular season, they just can't get past the darn New
York Yankees. But that's a conversation for another day. So
the drought in Canada continues courtesy of the Florida Panthers.
Speaking of droughts, I want to revisit the conversation I
had with Jason Hrshard earlier in the show. There are
(01:03:11):
five notable droughts in the NFL as we head into
twenty twenty four, and these are notable. Could any of
them end in twenty twenty four. We revisit that coming up,
but first we go back to our guy, the chef,
Kevin Wyre with the latest.
Speaker 6 (01:03:25):
Yeah, some pieces of NBA news. The most recent one
Sham's saying that Patrick Williams will return to Chicago on
a ninety million dollars deal across five seasons. And the
big piece of news though, Paul George opting out of
his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers and Adrian war
Zanowski saying that he does plan on meeting with the Clippers.
(01:03:46):
Philadelphia seventy six ers in Orlando Magic beginning late Sunday evening.
Major League Baseball Dodgers Giants. Friday Night ended in dramatic fashion,
a walk off win for the Giants, and on Saturday
it's the winning an extra innings fourteen to seven in
eleven choey Otani cranking his twenty six home run of
(01:04:07):
football score chef yeah, and uh Dodgers getting the revenge.
I was upset about how things ended on Friday nights,
so that that big eleventh inning seven runs wow, huge,
So yeah, that was that was very gratifying to watch
there as it was seen over on Fox. Baltimore beats
the Texas Rangers six to five. That sends the defending
(01:04:29):
World Series champions to their sixth straight loss. And that's
going from bad to worse because Cory Seger had to
leave the game yes, after he was hit by a
pitch on his left wrist. X rays were negative, but
it did not look good.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
It didn't. He went down. He was cringing, man, go ahead, check.
Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
And yeah, Cory Sieger's been so I mean, he was
one of my favorite players as a Dodger and was
a big part of their success in winning the World Series.
So that could be a big blow for Texas. Says again,
they're really struggling right now. The Angels, though, on the
opposite trend. They had really struggled much of this year,
especially without Mike Trout, but they're not on a six
game winning streak six ' five in ten innings against
(01:05:05):
the Tigers. The San Diego Padres also on a roll
five straight wins. They beat the Red Sox eleven to
one behind two home runs and five RBIs from Manny Machado.
The Minnesota's wins beat the Mariners five one, the Braves
over the Pirates two to one. But Paul Skins, how
impressive has he been. I mean this time last year,
it seems actually was his time last year he was
(01:05:28):
pitching in the College World Series, and now he's in
the major leagues with the two point zero six e
r A after taking the no decision against the Braves,
Atlanta did win a two to one, but Skins six innings,
nine strikeouts and two walks still allow six hits, but
otherwise an outstanding performance two points zero six ERA on
his youngest season, young career so far. Elsewhere in Major
(01:05:51):
League Baseball, the Blue Jays over the Yankees nine to three.
One so did did not play because of a bruce hand,
but Vladimir Grove Junior providing much of the fire works
on offense a home run, six runs batted. In Soccer
Copa America Argentina three and zero in group play, they
beat Peru two nil in Miami. Lionla Messi did not
(01:06:11):
play in that game. He did have a groin injury.
Chile was eliminated after they had played to a nil
nil draw against Canada at the Euro twenty twenty four Championships.
Germany shuts out Denmark to nil. The one they're delay
more than twenty minutes late in that first half because
of lightning, hail, and heavy rain in the vicinity, but
they did eventually finish that game. Switzerland eliminates Italy to nil,
(01:06:35):
and on Sunday, Fox will carry both games in the
Euro twenty twenty four Championships.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
Back to you, Bernie ow Big is this game Monday
for the United.
Speaker 7 (01:06:43):
States after that lost to Panama and then.
Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
Now they played the number one team in the turn
in their group. This is not good, not good, all right.
Speaking of droughts, there are five that will be paying
attention to in the NFL this year, all right, And
the first one I think has to be the New
York Jets. The Jets have gone thirteen years without a
(01:07:08):
playoff appearance. They've been competitive, but we all know what
happened last year. Their playoff hopes were hammered for what
four or five plays into the four snaps into the
season when Aaron Rodgers went down. And the Jets do
have an elite defense, but that defense could not compensate
for the Jets offense last year, which couldn't score in
a women's prison with a fist full of fifties. So
(01:07:29):
now they've got the longest active playoff drought in the
NFL and the longest in their own franchise history as well.
So the expectations I think in New York this year
are completely through the roof, even though Aaron Rodgers is
forty one, even though he's coming off a major injury.
They did overhaul the offensive line, brought in a couple
(01:07:50):
good players, and look, they added some wide receivers and
at the end of the day, on paper, this looks
like a playoff team, just like it did a season ago.
But we know how injuries can derail things best played plans.
The FCS a crowded conference, but with these new playoff rules,
et cetera, if the Jets can't assuming they stay healthy,
(01:08:12):
if the Jets can't enter as a wild card something,
they must be cursed. Okay, that's one drought to look
at now to a lesser degree, the Atlanta Falcons. They've
also gone six years with a lot of playoff appearance.
The last time Atlanta was in the postseason, Matt and
Ryan was the quarterback, Julio Jones was their top wide out.
Dan Quinn was their head coach. That was twenty seventeen.
(01:08:35):
That team lost to the Eagles in the first round.
Of course, the Eagles. If there's any consolation, they went
on to win the Super Bowl, But since then the
Falcons are either seven to nine or seven to ten
five of the last six years. But I think there's
a renewed hope. I think there is legitimate optimism that's
(01:08:57):
justified for the Falcons. This year. He signed Kirk Cousin.
That's got to be a massive step up from Devmond
Ritter and Marcus Mariota Yeai's thirty five. Yeah, he's coming
off of achilles tear. But Atlanta has also brought back
Raheem Morris, a guy who I have a lot of
respect for. He was the interim coach after Dan Quinn
was fired in twenty twenty and I think probably should
(01:09:19):
have been retained. The team played very hard under rahee Morris,
but he had to go. He went to La Was
you know, spent three seasons there as a defensive coordinator.
So you combine Cousins, who has been a reasonable offensive
threat as long as it's the regular season, with Raheem
Morris and his defensive scheme, and the fact that the
(01:09:42):
Falcons have the easiest strength to schedule in the National
Football League this year, if the Falcons can't earn a
wildcard spot or maybe even when their first NFC crown
in the last eight years. I have no faith in
Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints. And you know,
I think Tampa Bay going to be better than people realize.
I like Baker Mayfield. I don't know that Carolina is
(01:10:04):
ready to step up yet. But the Bucks look back
to back division champs. They're gonna have something to say
about it. It's a weak division and the conference at large.
Even if Atlanta doesn't win their division, they should, They
should sneak in as a wildcard team if they don't.
Not good Now talked about this with Jason Hershorn. Dallas
(01:10:25):
won the NFC East last season, but interestingly enough, for
whatever reason, the NFC East hasn't had a repeat champ
in twenty years. Twenty years now. The Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 4 (01:10:39):
Is.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
I believe the Cowboys obvious their biggest competition. I don't
think it'll be the New York Giants. I certainly don't
think it'll be the Washington Commanders. And the Eagles looked
last year like they were about to repeat. They were
ten and one to start, but then they went one
in five. The rest of the way in Dallas clinched
the crown now seems to be a little in paradise.
(01:11:01):
Dak Prescott his futures up in the air. See Lamb
isn't taking care of yet. He's in the final year
of a rookie contract. Mike McCarthy is already complaining about
the fact that he believes, you know, Jerry Jones is
starting to get on his nerves. Welcome to the party, pal,
like he didn't know that was going to happen, but
it is. It is happening, and so we'll find out
if for the first time in twenty years, there is
(01:11:23):
a repeat champ in the NFC East. Another drought and
this is the longest, well technically not the longest of
all the droughts, but the longest in terms of a
team who's had success in the past. The Dolphins have
gone twenty three years since winning a playoff game. Last
(01:11:45):
time they won it was y two K the two
thousand season. Now, the Dolphins have made the playoffs five
times in the last twenty three years, but every single
time the Dolphins have made the playoffs, they were bounced
in the wildcard round. Maybe this is the year Miami
finally makes some noise in the postseason. Why well, they've
(01:12:08):
gotten to the postseason consecutive years under coach Mike McDaniel,
and I think they have an explosive offense, which they
led the league in yardage and finished second in scoring.
Last year, Tua led the NFL in passing yards Tyreek
Hill first and receiving yards, and Miami showed that they
could put up points with the best of them. They
put up seventy against Denver. However, then they get in
(01:12:32):
a three game losing streak, including the wildcard playoff loss
at Kansas City was about eighty million degrees below zero.
So the Dolphins didn't waste a lot of time this
year in engaging in a fair amount of turnover. They
just did. And I'm not going to name all the
changes they made, but suffice it to say there was
a lot of turnover in Miami. Finally, my beloved Detroit Lions,
(01:12:55):
the team I covered pre and post from ninety eight
to eight. They had a tremendous breakout year. The Lions
are one of four NFL franchises that have never made
it to the Super Bowl. Now, they actually won for
NFL championships prior to the super Bowl era. But super
Bowl won, which was played in nineteen sixty seven, and
(01:13:17):
now obviously we are in the super Bowl era. Lions
have never even been back to the super Bowl. They
got to the NFC Championship game last season, and I
don't think they'll ever forget they blew a seventeen point
lead against San Francisco. But what it showed was is
his team has the potential to do serious damage and
(01:13:37):
they have the potential to make it back.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
They won both their playoff games at home. They caught
a break there and they had to win a game
on the road, and if they don't win their division,
and you know, Green Bay's lurking. But Detroit was smart
and they were able to retain their offensive coordinator Ben
Johnson and their defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. They were both
hot coaching candidates. But they're back in Detroit for at
least one more season. They've taken care of Jared Goff,
(01:14:02):
they got a Monroe Saint Ron back. They signed Pine
Sewel to an extension their stud tackle. There were a
couple of departures. CJ. Gardner, Johnson's gone, but look, the
front office had another good draft, and they've bolstered their
secondary with free agency. So after San Francisco to actually
Detroit here in Las Vegas has the best odds at
(01:14:25):
multiple sports books to make it out of the NFC.
Considering they had a twenty four to seven lead in
San Francisco on the road, it's realistic to believe they
could represent their conference next year. So those are your
five droughts. Detroit's never been to a Super Bowl? Can
they break that drought? Can Miami win a playoff game
(01:14:48):
after twenty three years? Can anybody repeat in the NFC
East after twenty years? Mike, the Falcons six years without
a playoff appearance. At least get a wild card. And
of course the New York Jets you heard me mentioned earlier,
But I think the NBA is better when the New
York Knicks are better. Hey, you cannot tell me that
(01:15:09):
if the New York Jets make a run in the playoffs,
they're not going to capture a lot of attention, and
not just from people who are in the New York market.
This is kind of a team that clearly has a
national following and certainly a big one in New York,
the number one media market and let's not, of course,
forget there. Believe it or not, eighty one year old
(01:15:31):
erstwhile Super Bowl champ quarterback Joe Namath will be lurking,
and that in itself might be worth the price of admission.
So let's keep an eye on that. Okay, let's keep
an eye on that. That that might actually be fun
to watch. Coming up, we continue with the Bernie Fratterle Show.
(01:15:52):
And by the way, I know we got some bad
news that Joey Chestnut will no longer be competing in
the fourth of July hot dog eating contest. Turns out
he won't be competing on the fourth of July, sort of.
I'll bring you up to data. What's happening there. I'm
Bernie Fraddleworre comeing to you live from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio tarract dot com studios. Keep it locked.
(01:16:14):
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Back on the Bernie Fradtle Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming
to live from the tarat dot com studios here in
Las Vegas. This Thursday is the fourth of July. One
of the great spectacles and entertainment quotients of the day is,
of course, the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, but this
(01:16:35):
year there will be no Joey Chestnut. He's been barred.
He received a van for technically violating of contractual obligation.
Now he has this side of the story, which we
might get to you later in the show. Schey, you
had some thoughts on this, and you have a little
funny anecdote, I guess regarding the hot Dog Eating Contest.
Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
Yeah, so it's obviously a big deal.
Speaker 5 (01:16:55):
Everyone watches it, everyone loves it, and food eating and
food competition has always been something that's kind of my
friends loved and we watched so many random guys just
to food challenges, for instance, like the nine to nine
to nine challenges a big thing right now. But me
and my friends would have our own Nathan's Hot Dog
(01:17:15):
Eating Contest on the fourth of July for three years,
and it was my volleyball team that would do it,
and we would always mimic it and try to get
at least what the last person was always trying, like
the last person to finish the Nathan's Eating Contest would
get like twenty three or something like that, and we
would try to get twenty three. But none of us
will get anywhere close to that. But then my friends
(01:17:37):
started just swallowing hot dogs full without eating them, So
then it turned into how many hot dogs can you
swallow full without chewing it? So this was absolutely absurd.
But then one of my friends he ended up actually
throwing up full hot dogs because he wouldn't chew him.
So it turned into this whole health hazard. I do
not recommend doing this, by the way, if you're out there,
(01:17:58):
but yeah, I'll try this. It's definitely it's definitely one
of the better fun stories, especially if you're in high
school and you want to you want to try something.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
So here's what's interesting. It turns out that upon finding
out that that Joey Chestnut was I'm going to say
this in air quotes banned from the Nathan's Hot Dog
eating contest. Uh, you know, he took it hard and
he broke his silence. He said, I'm not happy with this,
(01:18:31):
and he claimed he does not really have a contract
with mL or Nathan blah blah blah blah blah. But
here's the deal. Here's the deal. Joey Chesnut has landed
and he got a invitation from Al Paso soldiers at
Fort Bliss and Texas. They wrote in a social media post,
We're gonna invite Joey Chestnut to the fourth of July contest.
We would love to invite you to our popcos the
(01:18:52):
Weasel or pop goes the fort July fourth celebration to
celebrate with our troops and see if you can take
on some of our soldiers in a hot eating contests.
And Joey Chestnut says absolutely in response, thank you for it,
Bliss Texas for the invitation. I'm honored to celebrate America's
birthday with US Army soldiers and their families. Bring me
your four best eaters and I'll take them down Combine,
(01:19:15):
they replied, it's a date. We can't wait. See you soon.
And by the way, Joey Chestnunt's going to take on
Kobayashi later in the year. We'll talk about that and
you talk about eating. Later in the show, we'll share
some of his other records coming up the NFL, maybe
looking at a record payout. I'll keep you posted. You
listen to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yup,
(01:19:37):
that's right, you heard the man. The Bernie Frattle Show
is rolling right along. My name is Bernie frattle. We
are coming to you live from the tyrac dot com
studios here in Las Vegas, Foxsports Radio tyrack dot com.
We'll help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free

(01:20:02):
How would you feel if someone asked you to pay
damages of four point seven eight billion dollars billion with
a b H. By the way, you know people hear numbers,
let me share with you the best context I ever heard,
(01:20:24):
so you can truly understand how.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
Big the number one billion is one billion.
Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
If you were to count to a million one second
at a time, it would take to twelve days. But
if you were to count to a billion one second
at a time, that twelve days jumps to thirty three years.
Twelve days, thirty three years. Well, let's set this back up.
(01:20:52):
Let's go back a bit in time. It's been about
nine years since many subscribers of the NFL Sunday ticket
suit the National Football League. They ledged the NFL broke
anti trust laws, and after quite a while, the arguments
(01:21:15):
began earlier last month in federal court and it's a
big deal. Roger Goodell had to testify, Jerry Jones had
to testify, and basically, again, this originated from a lawsuit
back in twenty fifteen. And you know I was subscriber
to the Sunday Ticket. I liked it, right. The truth
of the matter is, the plaintiffs, as part of this
(01:21:39):
class action suit, accused the NFL and their teams and
all of their network partners of working together to sell
the out of market sports package at a very inflated price,
which would then restrict the competition. Well, the NFL argued
it was able to sell the viewing package under anti
trust exemption for broadcasting, and let the arguments begin. The
(01:22:00):
planets were seeking seven billion dollars in damages because it's
a federal anti trust case, and if that happens, there
could be treble damages if they prevail, which could have
been twenty one billion. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Okay,
most of you should know what the NFL Sunday Ticket is,
even if you don't get it, because it's been around
for thirty years. Basically, I thought it was an ingenious idea.
(01:22:21):
It's a great option for auto market fans.
Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
Let's say you're from Detroit, but you live in Miami.
You want to watch Lions games every week. Let's say
you're from Miami, but you live in Las Vegas, you
want to watch Dolphins games every week. Right, Sports, bars, restaurants,
they participate. It helps, you know, bring in subscribers and customers.
And until last season, Direct TV exclusively distributed the NFL
(01:22:47):
Sunday ticket in the United States. But then I think
YouTube got involved, et cetera, et cetera. Okay, so who
was included in a lawsuit? It started out, interestingly enough,
I think, originally in somea bar in San Francisco called
the Monkey Duck Bar. And last year a district judge
ruled the case could proceed as a class action suit
(01:23:10):
because there were two and a half million residential subscribers
and forty eight thousand businesses that bought the NFL Sunday
ticket going back all the way to twenty eleven. This
is a big deal now, one of the arguments. Okay,
but the people suing the NFL alleged that their broadcast
partners basically worked to suppress competition, which violates the Sherman
(01:23:33):
Ana Trust law. They entered into exclusive agreements that limited
fans options. YadA YadA, yah, you get it. The planners
claimed that when you have any competitive agreements agreements, well
you know you are limiting competition, which again is what
the Sherman anti trust law is all about. It's essentially
(01:23:58):
a law that was put in place many many years
ago that would prevent businesses from monopolizing simply by their
financial might. Now, Roger Goodell said the NFL put the
NFL Sunday ticket on DirecTV because it was one of
the few platforms that had national distribution. He also referenced
that they're he believed there was a very fragmented nature
(01:24:19):
of cable companies and that was the league's reasoning for
why the package wasn't available on cable. So the trial
began for real on June sixth, and this last Monday,
both sides wrapped up their case and I believe the
jury got the case on Tuesday or Wednesday. Well guess
(01:24:41):
what happened since then? A jury in US District Court
ordered the National Football League to pay more than four
point seven billion dollars in damages after ruling that the
NFL did in fact violate antitrust laws as they distributed
Auto Market Sunday afternoon games on this subscript, which they
(01:25:02):
consider a premium subscription service. So in addition, there were
two classes here in this lawsuit. The residential class people
like you and me who watch it at home. And
then there was a commercial class. Those are folks I
believe that own bars and establishments that had the Sunday ticket.
(01:25:26):
So the jury awarded four point seven billion in damages
to the residential class and ninety six million in damages
to the commercial class. Now this has yet to be adjudicated,
but since damages can't be tripled under federal anitrust laws
in theory, Again, this is only in theory. I'm not
pay attention. Now, the NFL could be liable for up
(01:25:49):
to fourteen billion. So the lawsuit itself represented and covered
over two and a half million residential subscribers in forty
eight thousand businesses. They pay for the package for Auto
Market games over a period of eleven seasons, and the
lawsuit claimed the NFL broke in ad trust laws by
selling the package at an inflated price. And I always
(01:26:13):
sought a cost a lot, but I just paid it.
I didn't think it. He'd think I just didn't think
anything right. Of course, the NFL said in a statement
they will appeal the verdict. Here's their quote. We are
disappointed with the jury's verdict today in the NFL Sunday
Ticket class action suit. We continue to believe that our
media distribution strategy, which features all NFL games which are
(01:26:37):
broadcast on free over air television markets of the participating teams,
and national distribution of our most popular games, which is
of course supplanted by many additional choices including red Zone
Sunday Ticket in the NFL, is by far the most
fan friendly distribution model in all sports and entertainment.
Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Quote.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
We will certainly contest this decision as we believe that
the class action ensued claims in this case are baseless
and without merit. We thank the jury for their time
in service and for their guidance and oversight from Judge
Gutiers throughout the trial. This is delayed till July thirty.
First that the next thing you'll hear our post trial motions,
(01:27:18):
and one of the post trial motions will be to
ask the Ninth Circuit Court to set aside this verdict
now should the NFL end up paying these damages. He
would cost. Just will put in some perspective for you.
There are thirty two teams in the league. It'll cost
each team about four hundred and fifty million dollars each.
All right. The playoff's attorney, a gentleman by the name
(01:27:40):
of Bill Carmondy, said, quote, justice was done. The verdict
upholds protection for consumers in our class. It was a
great day for consumers, all right. In closing remarks, Carmony
showed an NFL memo that indicated that the league was
exploring a world without the Sunday ticket cable channels whatever
(01:28:01):
Sunday afternoon auto market games that are not showing on
Fox or CBS. And the jury took about five hours
to deliberate this again, so we have a lawsuit that
goes back nine years, originated in twenty fifteen, all from
one sports bar. But this is a real thing. This
(01:28:21):
is a real thing coming up. I want to talk
to the crew about this because we're consumers, and if
I'm not mistaken, last year the price was I don't know,
maybe say maybe you can look it up. We'll talk
about this coming up in a minute. I want to
say it was like three hundred and forty nine bucks.
(01:28:42):
And for me, again, I'm just you know, I'm just
spewing here propagate that over seventeen weeks it was what
twenty bucks a week to go back and forth. I
didn't think much of it. But however, that's not the
way the court saw. That's not way the class of
people who brought this action against the end fell did.
And so I think this is an argument. This is
(01:29:03):
an interesting argument.
Speaker 1 (01:29:05):
And look, the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
NFL is king, all right. I mean, they originally own
one day of the week. Now they owned two days
of the week. They damn nearrown any day of the
week they're on, just as the NBA. And now they're
venturing into Friday and Black Friday, and they'll even be
games on Wednesday this year because it's Christmas Day and
we're all here to watch it. But when you have
a lawsuit of this nature and it's heard by a
(01:29:28):
jury of their peers and they come up with this judgment,
this is not a small talking point. By the way,
shortly after tonight's show, our podcast will be going up.

we'll be handling those duties coming up. I want to
hear from Shay Mark and the chef Kevin Wired on
their thoughts on the lawsuit between the fans the NFL
Sunday Ticket and the National Football League four point seven
billion in damages. Wow, that's nothing. Sneeze at my, Bernie Friddle.
(01:30:14):
We are comedy live from Las Vegas, Fox Sports Radio

listening to the Bernie Fraddle Show on Fox Sports Radiow.
We're back on the Bernie Fraddle Show, Fox Sports Radio
Company live from the Tarrack dot Com studios here in
Las Vegas. That remind you we are forty one minutes
away from the dance Sensation sweep in the Nation. Of course,
what kind of brand new fool of you? Followed by
(01:30:37):
what my name? So before I bring the crew and
let's just reset this up with a couple of additional details.
As I mentioned, Los Angeles jury sided against the NFL
this past week in a class action an I trust
lawsuit that was surrounding the NFL Sunday ticket. The verdict
NFL four point seven billion to individual fans ninety six
(01:31:01):
million to bars. Lawsuit goes back nine years. Apparently. One
of the aspects of the argument has to do with
the fact that many fans around the country, they will
to watch their own team, whether it's being shown in
their own market or not wherever they live, but they
may not have the same desire to pay it for
all the teams. And their lawsuits said, well, the NFL
(01:31:24):
didn't give them that option. That's what drove the price up.
Parlia trial revealed allegedly also that apparently, and again I
wasn't in the courtroom, I don't know. I'm reporting what's
been reported by reputable people that that ESPN actually proposed
to the NFL they could take over the NFL Sunday
(01:31:45):
ticket from Direct TV after last season, and they would
they would price it at seventy dollars and then offer
packages for individual teams as it were not. The NFL
allegedly declined that proposal and went with YouTube TV and
the lowest price for an NFL Sunday ticket on YouTube
(01:32:06):
last year, as I recalled, was three hundred and forty
nine dollars. Now, don't expect to collect any time soon.
But of the two point four million people who purchased
the Sunday Ticket, if this judgment were to go through,
they all collected by nineteen hundred bucks, and the forty
eight thousand bar owners would get about two grand. Don't
(01:32:27):
hold your breath. As I mentioned, there are a lot
of hurdles to clear before the NFL decides to pay
these planeffs. You got a full month before there's postrial motions,
and you can be sure that the NFL will appeal.
So I think this is going to last months and years.
But the way we consume these products now, and given
the incredible popularity of the NFL, this is a discussion
(01:32:48):
you can't ignore. Chef. Let's start with you. Are you
a customer of the NFL Sunday Ticket and have you
followed this lawsuit and do you have an opinion.
Speaker 6 (01:33:00):
I'm not currently a subscriber of Sunday Ticket because I'm
an LA Rams fan, so all games are available for
free on over the air television here and.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Your fanis but go ahead, but I have considered.
Speaker 7 (01:33:12):
Buying it in the past.
Speaker 6 (01:33:13):
I lived in North Carolina when I worked for Learfield
for five years, so in watching Rams games, it was
something that I often needed. But it was cheaper to
go to a bar and buy beer than it was
to subscribe to Sunday Ticket, So I never actually pulled
the trigger in doing it, because again, was it four
hundred dollars for the season is a very very steep price,
especially since red zone is available. For me, it's forty
(01:33:35):
dollars for the season, and that gives me all the
football I need on a Sunday besides the Rams games.
So Sunday Ticket as a value product was never something
that I saw appealing. But with the settlement possibly mean
it or not settlement, but a verdict meaning a possibility
that games all the cart could be sold, that would
(01:33:57):
be something I would actually very much consider, and I'm
very much hopeful that the league will make more options
available than having to buy the complete package, because there
are a lot of great games on, especially in that
one o'clock eastern ten a Pacific window. There's like what
ten games on at the same time. You see them all,
(01:34:17):
and if there's a very compelling matchup that's not being
shown here in LA. I'd love to just buy one
game without having to subscribe for the full season. So
my interest in this lawsuit is in regards to what
changes will be made to the package in order to
make that happen. As for the people, you know, getting
compensated for damages being awarded by the jury, again, never subscribed,
(01:34:40):
so that was never a concern of mine. But hey,
sign on to that class action if you can, is
my advice.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
I think it's going to be argued for years. Share
your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (01:34:55):
Yeah, So, I mean I was never I have my
own ways of watching the NFL, but I was never
I would never have to buy or pay for that.
Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
But no, I won't tell anybody, man.
Speaker 5 (01:35:10):
But what I think is really interesting is if the
NFL does have to end up paying damages, it's gonna
cost the teams. So it's it's it's not necessarily the
NFL that's really gonna be biting the bullet with this one.
It's it could cost the estreme approximately fourmed with forty
nine points six million is a number I'm seeing right now,
right right.
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
Right, every team.
Speaker 5 (01:35:30):
So this could definitely affect not only the NFL, but
a lot of the teams within it, and there's a
ton of teams that can pay this, don't get me wrong,
very easily. But there's some other teams that don't have
his big market. It's like Jerry Jones easily could do this,
and he's actually one of the bigger people that's kind
of voicing it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:47):
But I like it. It's just a lot of money.
Speaker 5 (01:35:51):
And and again, if you did have Sunday ticket, go ahead,
and I would definitely sign up for this, but I
just again, and there's so many loopholes, and there's so
much money involved, and there's so many big executives with
so much power that I really do think you said
it yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:36:08):
It's gonna take so long for it to.
Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
Just Finallyeah, it's a civil matter, I mean exactly. And
by the way, I want to read a tweet from
Brian McCarry. He's a listener to our show. He says,
a great show is always looking at what the overseas
packages are nuts. So he brings up a point that
I probably should have interjected, because I did find out
last year that in other countries they do offer alternative packages,
(01:36:32):
sort of like an a la carte package. Let's say
you're living overseas and you know you're a huge Arizona
Cardinals fan and you just want to see their games.
It's my understanding those types of OLA card packages are
offered overseas but not here nationally. And that came up,
I believe, you know, as part of the arguments on
(01:36:55):
both sides in the lawsuit. So I'm a slappy, Okay,
I didn't. Honestly, I missed out on this one. I
paid the three forty nine. I sit there with my notepad.
I get off the air at three am every Saturday
night and in a Sunday morning, and I'm up by
game time, and I've taken notes because if I'm going
(01:37:15):
to talk about this stuff on the air, I kind
of like to see what's happening as supposed to hear
in a third party. Right. It's like when Tyson bit
Hollyfield's air. I was able to talk about the following
Monday because I'd seen it live, and so they got me.
I mean, the NFL's kind of got me. But when
you find out that there's a large class of people
(01:37:36):
who genuinely feel they're being gouged, and this makes it
to a district court and the arguments are hurt, and
the court you know, prevails on the side of the
plaintiffs when there's an argument to be had here. Mark Ramsey,
what are your thoughts on this old matter.
Speaker 10 (01:37:52):
I'm of the mindset that I would not want my
favorite team to be held hostage buy something like this
where I the only I'm going to see the games
is if I have to pay a certain price and
certain you know, companies will get what they can out
(01:38:13):
of the subscribers. And I wouldn't want to be one
of those people that have to literally pay through the nose,
you know, arm and leg all those kind of jokes
to be able to see my favorite games. And so
this sort of proves my point that the gouging was there,
and so restaurants that play games and then the actual
(01:38:34):
individual fans have been gouged. And now the lawsuit, I
guess prevailed that they were being gouged. And now there's
the whole having to litigate how everyone's going to be
paid once this thing gets, you know, settled in court.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
And I think we're I think we're in for a
long haul here. Both sides are lowered up pretty good,
and I you know, the NFL is just not going
to bend over on this one. That's just not how
they do business. And I think I think as this
lawsuit goes on, the NFL will do their best to
(01:39:13):
drag it out. Right. Look, they've got us. They own
a day of the week, they own two days of
the week, they might own three days of the week.
And you know, the players may not want to hear this.
But the way I rationalized it was for three forty nine.
You propagate that over seventeen weeks. It's basically twenty game,
twenty dollars a week, and I'm seeing every game. But
if you find out you know that a lot of
(01:39:35):
people don't agree with me that, hey, they don't want
to see every game. They don't want to see their team.
The ideological purpose behind this in the first place was
to create, you know, out of market fans who are
relocated from where their hometown team was. For instance, I
have a friend who lives in Savannah, Georgia, huge Lions fan.
If he wants to see Lions games, it's going to
(01:39:56):
have to pay, and maybe it's worth it, maybe it's not.
So let me go around the room one more time.
Do you think there's a chance the NFL follows suit
from what they do internationally and say, you know what,
maybe we need to create an OLA card system so
you just pay for the games you want to see.
Let's start with you, chef. You think that's where this
ends up. Maybe the NFL just says, Okay, let's do
it this way after all I do.
Speaker 6 (01:40:16):
I mean at this point, it's in their best interest
to do so, because it's been a bad look for
the league, knowing that they've been charging as much as
they have have been refusing to budget. I think it
was ESPN who said they were willing to offer it
at a much cheaper price for the package. So the NFL,
with how they've handled the package in the past, I
(01:40:39):
think just to create some goodwill and actually make it
seem like they're for the fans, it would be a
great pr move. And I think it would also add
extra extra subscribe subscribers as well, because again I never
thought about subscribing to it because paying four hundred dollars
for the season was just it was too much and
not something I felt was worth it. But a certain
weekend and there's a game not being shown in my area,
(01:41:00):
but it's a very compelling matchup. Yeah, I'd fork over
you know, five ten dollars, maybe fifteen to twenty dollars
even depending on how they price it. But if I
have the choice just to buy each individual game or
maybe a season package for one team, it'd be something
I would actually consider doing when I never would have
considered buying the package before because of its cost. So
(01:41:20):
I think it's in the NFL's best interest to do it,
and I'm I'm pretty sure that there's a good chance
that the lawsuit will force the NFL to do it
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:41:30):
You know, I don't think it forced me to do it,
but the NFL may regroup, but you know, I think
they're going to be obstinate. I don't think they will
do that anytime soon. Here's why, because we've already proven,
I mean, with the two point four million subscribers, we've
already proven we're willing to pay the three forty nine.
Maybe didn't know any better, shay your thoughts. You think
the NFL will alter their product?
Speaker 5 (01:41:51):
So yeah, the ESPN proposal, it was like a seventy
dollars package or was it time by team package?
Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:41:57):
So I mean I'm all for a team by team package.
I'm sure there's a lot of people that would like that.
There's some people that just want to see their team.
But the issue with that is is a lot of
people my age are watching football for fantasy purposes and
a lot of them are just watching red Zone. So
like when I'm my house, whenever I have people over,
it's two TVs. One TV is on Red Zone and
(01:42:17):
one TV is on either the Browns or whatever that
highlight game is. So the issue with that is these
team by team packages won't get red Zone and a
lot of people are wanting red Zone or the the
option to put four games on my team. I know
that's an option with Sunday Ticket.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Well, in the red zone is very popular with fantasy players.
Speaker 5 (01:42:33):
Because exactly exactly it's it's very popular fantasy players because
it shows you exactly when it happens, or quickly when
it happens every team that's in the red zone, or
just big plays that are happening throughout the throughout the day.
But it's it's it's it's tough just for the team
because you're missing out on a big market of people,
especially with my age, I know the older the older
(01:42:56):
generation kind of just sticks to their one team. Sticks
to the three games they want to watch. I get that,
But when it comes to the red zone aspect, I
think that's where the value comes when you're paying three
forty nine or however much you're going to pay for it.
Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
So that's the only issue I have with the team
by team package.
Speaker 5 (01:43:14):
So I mean, if they have a way of making
the full Sunday ticket package cheaper, I think that would
be the way to do it. I mean, and hearing
them say that three forty was way too much, I'm
sure they can make it cheaper.
Speaker 1 (01:43:25):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:43:26):
I mean, the only reason they're able to make it
so expensive is because they technically have a monopoly on
the product. There's no one else that could sell Sunday
ticket There's no one else that you can really watch
football through. So I mean it's it's it's all up
to them, which kind of sucks. But thank god, this
this this this court is I mean this Supreme Court?
Is it Supreme Court? Was it in the Supreme Court?
Speaker 2 (01:43:43):
Oh no, no, just a local district.
Speaker 5 (01:43:45):
It's just a local district, Okay, Yeah, So just just
because it's doing that, like, I'm happy with it, but
I genuinely don't think it will change at all.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
I mean they they already said no to ESPN, and
I don't I think they.
Speaker 2 (01:43:56):
Said no to that because they did the math and
it would have been less revenue. They're getting three four
forty nine as opposed to seventy, and I think the
mix and match might have been more difficult to distribute.
I don't know, but I think I'm in agreement, Jay,
I don't think they'll bend quickly. Mark, you got the
last word on this.
Speaker 10 (01:44:10):
I don't think the NFL is going to try and
make any sort of deal where they don't have the
advantage advantage well, the American audience, well said, based on
what you guys are just saying.
Speaker 11 (01:44:22):
If in Europe they.
Speaker 10 (01:44:23):
Have a certain kind of deal and it works out
a certain kind of way, they know what they can
do to the American audience, and they're not going to
not have the advantage.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
They got us. We're addicts, let's face it, let's be honest.
Speaker 10 (01:44:37):
So they are other other countries, can you know, sort
of do without, but they know the American audience. Will
you know, they will give both arms and both legs
to get these games.
Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
Fair enough, Speaking of arms and legs, I don't know
if Joey Chestnut holds a record for eat arms and legs.
We're gonna have some fun with this. I want to
share you some of the foods that Joey Chestnut holds
the records for. And by the way, let's not forget
people can poo poo this hot dog eating contest and
Nathan's hotdog eating contest. But did you know that millions
(01:45:13):
watch on TV and thirty thousand fans attend in person
every year? Dude, It's a spectacle of the highest order,
and we we typically all watch, but no Joey Chestnut
this year. We'll talk about the other records he does hold.
You're gonna get kicked out of this. Coming up at first,
we go to a guy, the chef for the performance
of the night. Nobody could take go up place, no
(01:45:38):
way that can match your face.
Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
No, you gotta go on on in away, so clear.
Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
I just want to buy you a beer, a maybe
tonight it's seven thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:45:48):
That's something I could come by and he dig you
up in my car. No substitute for you, No.
Speaker 2 (01:45:58):
Baby does for you, girl for you?
Speaker 1 (01:46:03):
Now you know if that herd is true?
Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
Now there's just no substitute for you another batful performance
tour to four chefs.
Speaker 1 (01:46:14):
It is high.
Speaker 6 (01:46:16):
It is the highlight of my week, Bernie, the highlight
of my week. Singing for all of our wonderful listeners
out there, well, it is the Dodgers singing a positive tune.
After falling to the Giants Friday on a walk off
home run, they get the last laugh, at least in
Game number two, getting seven runs in that eleventh inning
(01:46:37):
to win it fourteen to seven. Dodgers over the Giants
in Game two of that three game series. Elsewhere in
Major League Baseball, Braves du beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by
a final score of two to one. Paul Skein's an
outstanding performance. The rookie continuing to dominate nine strikeouts and
(01:46:57):
six innings, has an ERA on the season of two
point zero six. The Baltimore Orioles send the Texas Rangers
to a six straight loss six ' five, and it
gets worse for the Rangers because Corey Seger he got
hit by a pitch. It did not look good. Was
really writhing in pain after he got hit, and thankfully
(01:47:18):
initial X rays were negative, but the wrist is still swollen.
So We're gonna have to see exactly what the status
will be on the Ranger Slugger moving forward.
Speaker 7 (01:47:27):
The La Angels on a roll.
Speaker 6 (01:47:29):
They are now on a six game winning streak, including
a six to five victory in ten innings against the
Detroit Tigers. The Padres also on a winning streak of
five games. They beat the Boston Red Sox eleven to five,
is Manny Machado going deep twice. The Twins five to
one winners against the Seattle Mariners. The Blue Jays top
the Yankees nine to three. Wan So did not play,
but Vladimir Guerrero did for the Blue Jays one home run,
(01:47:52):
six runs batted in. In the NBA, the big news
of the day Paul George opting out of his contract.
He will become a free agent, Lebron James opting out
of his but of course he doesn't tend to re
sign with the Lakers. And the late news from sham
Sharania was Patrick Williams signing a five year, ninety million
(01:48:12):
dollars deal to return to the Chicago Bulls. In Soccer
COPA Americans Argentina as expected three to zero in group
play as they beat Peru two nil in Miami in
front of sixty five thousand fans. Even though Lil Messi
did not play due o' groin injury, Argentina still victorious.
Chile eliminated after they played a scoreless draw against Canada.
(01:48:35):
Germany shuts out Denmark to nil despite a weather delay
of more than twenty minutes because of lightning and hail
in the area. Switzerland eliminates Italy from the tournament to nil,
and the tournament continues Sunday over on Fox. Will hear
more about that from Chris Perffet's World of Soccer Back
to Bernie.
Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Okay, good stuff chef as always. So we all know
that Joey Chestmutt holds the world record for Nathan's Hot
Dogs seventy six dogs and buns in ten minutes. I
don't think that's ever gonna be broken. I think it's
gonna peak at seventy six. He won the contest last
year at sixty two. But there were there were weather issues,
(01:49:15):
and weather does matter, by the way, it really does.
If it's hotter, if it's colder, if it rains, et cetera.
Won't boy with all that. But here's what's funny that
Joey Chestnut is not just an officionado when it comes
to what eating hot dogs? Right, he holds at least
thirty two world records. Now, let's go around the room
(01:49:37):
and have a little fun with this, okay, Shaye? You
know those little Hostess donuts? How many could you eat?
Would you say? The doughnuts? Little diministure? The miniature was
the Hostess donuts?
Speaker 1 (01:49:49):
Like maybe like twelve before?
Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
Yes, that's a nice number. Joey Chestnut two hundred and
fifty seven and.
Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
Six minutes out in the world. Probably at that moment, Chef,
you like chicken wings?
Speaker 7 (01:50:01):
Oh yeah, on a roll?
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
And you know, maybe you got a few cream to
mince in. You know how many chicken wings.
Speaker 4 (01:50:05):
And you have?
Speaker 7 (01:50:06):
I can eat a couple dozen if I'm really And.
Speaker 2 (01:50:08):
That's not a bad number, Joey Chestnut one hundred and
eighty two, Oh my god, in thirty minutes.
Speaker 7 (01:50:14):
I mean, how much time on the toilet does this
guy spend?
Speaker 1 (01:50:16):
I just can't imagine technique, man.
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Bad mental picture. But I appreciate the effort. I do
appreciate the effort there, all right, Mark, you seem like
a sensible eater.
Speaker 1 (01:50:26):
Do you ever eat hard boil?
Speaker 11 (01:50:27):
Legs sometimes.
Speaker 2 (01:50:29):
How many can you eat?
Speaker 11 (01:50:30):
I'll just say six sex is a nice number.
Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Joey chestnut one hundred and forty one in eight minutes,
eight eight minutes. How about the regular size glazed donuts
right free plug here for Krispy Kreme? Those things are
mind altering. I don't have very often. Let's go back
to you. Do we start with you, chef. Let's go
back to you, chef. How many? How many glazed donuts
(01:50:55):
can you eat? You've got on a roll? I mean eight,
eight donuts?
Speaker 1 (01:50:58):
I did it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:58):
I did eight.
Speaker 6 (01:50:59):
I could do a I mean I wouldn't feel good
about it afterwards, but I could probably kill a box.
Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
A dozen play doors much you have been partaking in
the sticky icky prior to that?
Speaker 6 (01:51:09):
Yeah, that would that would definitely help it. That would
definitely sure, sure that would help it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Long. How about Joey chestnut fifty five in eight minutes?
Fifty five at eight minutes a time?
Speaker 1 (01:51:20):
That's crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
Well that's that, That's what really makes it crazy. Okay,
So I'll tell you what shade you like? Chicken wings?
Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
Right? I loved, I am actually I have my own.
Speaker 2 (01:51:30):
If there was no if there was no time limits, Okay,
well gave you, let's say, twelve hours. How many chicken
wings could you eat in twelve hours? So you could
start now and you finish up about one thirty tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
I think I think I could do one hundred and
twelve hours.
Speaker 2 (01:51:44):
That's very impressive that you've got my respect. Joey Chestnut.
Four hundred and thirteen chicken wings in twelve hours, four
four and thirteen. These are all codified. They are all
on the up and up on the record. I would
not like to follow him in the john after that
for any reason. Now, Big Max, who doesn't love a
(01:52:05):
good big mac? Okay, wow, I realized they've shrunk them down.
They look like they look like silver dollar pancakes now
compare to how they used to look. Okay, mad, I
made McDonald's just just we still love them though they
taste damn good. Matter of fact, a lot of times
I'll go through McDonald's and I'll you know, I'm mostly
keto most of the time, but I'll get to the burgers,
which are like and order a little Big Max off
(01:52:25):
some side.
Speaker 1 (01:52:26):
It's good.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
It tastes so good. Oh yeah, all right, So who's
up next? Mark Ramsey how many Big Max could you eat?
If you were fired up?
Speaker 11 (01:52:33):
I'll just go with four for now.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
That's a that's a number man by how about how
about you?
Speaker 1 (01:52:38):
I could probably do five five.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
I don't think I could get to five now at
this I might have been all right, uh chef, wrap
us up? How many could you?
Speaker 7 (01:52:47):
I could probably do four or five, because I'll do
I'll give you.
Speaker 2 (01:52:51):
I'll round it up to five. So the between the three,
that's fourteen. Joey Chestnut, Big Max sandwiches thirty two of them.
And now you guys like Mexican food, right, I sure,
oh yeah, give me this. I have it once a week.
Speaker 6 (01:53:04):

Oh they're great. Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
Six of those?
Speaker 1 (01:53:16):

Speaker 2 (01:53:17):

Speaker 1 (01:53:37):

Speaker 2 (01:53:40):

restaurant called here today. Go on, Tomali, how's that dud?
They canna catch on? How Tomalley's?
Speaker 1 (01:53:47):

getting started. You're not gonna believe what this guy can do.
We are talking about a man of many talents. I'm
(01:54:23):
Bernie Fraddle. We're coming to Lyon from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Tirec dot Com Studios. Keep it locked.
You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You're back on the Bernie Frattle Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Comedy Life from the tarret dot Com studios, ten minutes
away from the dance sensation sweep of the nation. What
kind of brand new fool of you? Followed by what
(01:54:43):
my name? We continue with the legend known as joy Chestnut.
By the way, in about thirty minutes, I've got some
good news since you will not be seeing him July fourth,
Other than maybe he'll passo Texas. I don't know if
they're going to televise that event. He's taken on four
soldiers as opposed to the rest of the field at
the True Spectacle in New York. Okay, twinkies. Who likes twinkies?
Speaker 1 (01:55:06):
In this group? Shay, I like twinkies? How many can
you have, Bud, I'd give me, give me eighteen, not
a bad number.
Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
How about you, Chef? How many twinkies I could?
Speaker 7 (01:55:18):
I could probably kill? Uh, I'd say about fifteen.
Speaker 12 (01:55:21):
That's thirty three, Mark Ramsey, I'll stop at ten forty.
Speaker 2 (01:55:25):
Three ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, Grandma, Grandpa, one
hundred and twenty one twinkies and six minutes.
Speaker 11 (01:55:35):
That's wow.
Speaker 1 (01:55:36):
Six minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
You know what, who doesn't love a good grilled cheese
sandwich if you make it properly, right, I've crushed two
or three grilled cheese sandwiches, and I haven't since I
was ten years old.
Speaker 1 (01:55:48):
But they're still damn good.
Speaker 9 (01:55:49):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
I'm just too much into this keto thing now, Shay,
you feel like a pumper to me? Man, how many
grilled chees sandwiches can you eat?
Speaker 5 (01:55:58):
If we're just doing one slice of cheese and each
I could probably do like, let's go with nine, so
Baseball team chef.
Speaker 2 (01:56:07):
You're next.
Speaker 7 (01:56:08):
I actually don't like cheese, so this one doesn't apply
to it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
We'll just pass on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
Then, Mark Ramsey, let's go with five.
Speaker 2 (01:56:16):
Man, you guys are right. I'll tell you what. I
better take out a bankle and a five year for dinner.
And that's not a bad thing. That's fourteen drum roll please,
forty seven grilled cheese sandwiches in ten minutes. We've talked
a lot about, you know the man, how pots some dessert?
You know what? I got some ice cream sandwiches in
my fridge right now, I could have one. I could
(01:56:38):
have one here in a few minutes. How many ice
cream sandwiches did Joey Chestnut eat and it only took
them six minutes.
Speaker 12 (01:56:44):
Take a guess, Mark Ramsey forty three.
Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
See, now we're getting silly that it's six minutes. Okay, well,
when you consider the records to this point, that's not
a bad guess. Really, Shay, So.
Speaker 1 (01:56:59):
It's cold, you can't really get it down your mouth
as fast.
Speaker 2 (01:57:02):
You get the brain freeze happen.
Speaker 5 (01:57:03):
I like I would only be able to do like
six minutes. Like I would only be able to do
like seven.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
Maybe. So I'm thinking this.
Speaker 6 (01:57:09):
Guy chef your thoughts, Yeah, I could probably do you know,
five or six. I'm guessing he maybe did like twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
Yeah, he did twenty five and a half. Oh my god?
How about the half the brain freeze? How does the half?
Speaker 5 (01:57:22):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
I guess he got to the brain freeze and could
only eat a half. What about the other half? Maybe
the buzz to wast she just went to waste. So
I don't know if you ever saw the movie when
when Harry met Sally, uh the you know the famous
scene uh in Cats Deli in New York.
Speaker 1 (01:57:37):
I've been there.
Speaker 2 (01:57:39):
They have these Pustrami sandwiches or seven out of sandwiches.
They're they're very filling. How many could you eat? A
if you don't have like ten.
Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
Minutes, ten minutes, like not even maybe two and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
Yeah, well that would still be a hell of a performance.
Speaker 6 (01:57:54):
Chef in ten minutes, Yeah, one would be a challenge
if I'm really just suving shoveling it down too.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
Mark real quickly too. He ate twenty five pistrami sandwich
cat and in ten minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
That is upset. That's the most Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
I'm still not going to have these records. I mean
we had pull pork, sandwiches, crystal samburgers, all kinds of stuff.
So we'll continue on in another show. By the way,
he ate forty three Pepperoni rolls in ten minutes. All right,
I'm done. Good night, folks.
Speaker 1 (01:58:24):
We'll see it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
I'm in it here. Keep it locked. The Bernie Frattle Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Yep, that's right, you heard the man.
The Bernie Fraddle Show keeps rolling right along. My name
is Bernie Frattle. We are coming to you live from
the tyrec dot com studios here in Las Vegas, Fox
Sports Radio tyreq dot Com. We'll help you get there
(01:58:46):
an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, fore road aster protection
and over ten thousand recommended installers, tyrec dot com the
way tire buying should be. Well, we have come to
that point in the show the dance sensation sweeping the nation.
You know what, you love it. You can't live without it,
you see because on our show, as Yogi Berra once said,
(01:59:09):
we observe a lot by watching from seed to oily sea,
around this great planet of ours. Yeah, people do things.
They just engage in behaviors and activities that cause you
to well, raise an eyebrow. And sometimes these activities are
innocuous and silly and stupid and they don't amount to much.
Other times they're far more serious, and many times they
(01:59:31):
involve criminal acts that can land you in jail. But
anyway you slice it, anyway, you size it up, any
way you characterize at these events, well, they always leave
us scratching our head and asking ourselves, what kind of
brand new fool are you? So?
Speaker 1 (01:59:51):
What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
Well, it's inevitable that one of us each week has
a story that takes us to great state of Florida,
and this week is no different. It's actually my term.
We take you to Sarasota, Florida, where we introduce you
to a gentleman named Timothy B who was accused of burglary.
(02:00:15):
Now we all know it's important to get a good
night's sleep. You got to get your beauty rest if
you're gonna be able to perform in the society. So
one night, mister B was perusing a neighborhood and he
came upon a home with an unlocked sliding glass store
in the rear of the house. So mister B entered
(02:00:36):
the house and did his business sort of. I guess
he must have been pooped out because he decided he
would well, Hell, if you're going to be a cat burglar,
you might as well take a cat nap.
Speaker 1 (02:00:49):
Right, how's that Mark? How's that for comedy?
Speaker 2 (02:00:51):
So the longest short of it is he's taking a
little nap on the sofa, and around seven twenty am,
the home on her woke up. She sees Timothy B
sleeping on a couch in her living room.
Speaker 1 (02:01:07):
Oh no, oh, no, we suck again.
Speaker 2 (02:01:11):
Well, she woke him up from his sleep and said,
why are you here. Well, Timothy B apparently was quite polite,
and he says, oh, I'm so sorry, and he started
to pace the floor, and the lady says, I'm calling
the police, and at that point, well Timothy BE made
like Jesse Owens and got the hell out of here
right Well, the officers arrived at the home about twenty
(02:01:33):
minutes later, which point at at that juncture, the victim
noticed that her wallet, her license or credit cards, some cash,
and some personal checks were missing. Well, the police did
their job. They do a great job. They found mister B.
Mister Timothy B. Took him into custody a short time later,
(02:01:54):
and he was not wearing pants as he was described.
He was wearing shorts, but the victim positively identified him
and by the way, they found the pants ditched a
few hours later in a wooden area, along with the
victim's wallet. So Timothy B. Has been charged with burglary
of an occupied dwelling. He went to Sarasona County jail.
(02:02:14):
He's in custody on twenty five thousand dollars bond. If
you're going to be a cat and burglar, you don't
have time to take a cat nap.
Speaker 1 (02:02:24):
Timothy B.
Speaker 2 (02:02:25):
Caught hands down, red handed burglarising a home in Sarasota,
Florida because he fell asleep on the couch. Timothy B.
Of Sarasola, Florida. What kind of brand new fool are you? Okay, Shay,
you're up all right.
Speaker 5 (02:02:43):
So unfortunately I don't have a Florida one today, but
we are in Tahoe City, California. A Northern California man
has pleaded guilty for his part in an international amphibian
smuggling ring. Can't say I've ever heard of that, yeah.
Tahoe City resident Andrew Laughlin pleaded guilty on Monday to
(02:03:06):
acting as a middleman in an international amphibian smuggling ring
where he would find and possess hard to find newts.
According to officers with the Department of Justice, the forty
seven year old admitted to an undercover agent that he
shipped or received amphibians in packages purposely misabled as toy cars,
rubber toys, or ceramic art pieces, when they actually contained
(02:03:26):
animals like the Eastern box turtles, spotted turtles, fire belly neuts,
Asian wardy newts, or newts local to California.
Speaker 1 (02:03:34):
I have never heard any of these names. By the way,
I've heard of fake newtons.
Speaker 5 (02:03:40):
When federal investigators searched Laughlin's home, they found at least
eighty one live animals, with some testing positive for be
the poisonous fungus that has caused major population de clients
for certain species, including some presumed to be extinct. According
to scientists, some of the newts were injured species and
(02:04:00):
they were very detrimental to our ecosystem. Laughlin will be
sentenced on October seventh. But that just leads me to say, Laughlin,
what kind of fool are you?
Speaker 1 (02:04:10):
Eighty one animals?
Speaker 2 (02:04:13):
What must that place has smell?
Speaker 4 (02:04:15):
Like?
Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
I wonder how much she was making? Yeah, I want
how much money is in the illegal amphibition rings?
Speaker 2 (02:04:21):
That's a hell of a side, hust I know, right,
what do you do? I drive? Uber? What do you
do smuggle amphibians?
Speaker 1 (02:04:28):
Baby?
Speaker 2 (02:04:30):
What part of the country was just sitting.
Speaker 1 (02:04:31):
Again, this was in California?
Speaker 5 (02:04:33):
He was a right, Yeah, well he was acting as
a middleman, So I'm sure it's coming from everywhere.
Speaker 2 (02:04:38):
But wow, we might have to follow up on this
some night. Shape.
Speaker 1 (02:04:42):
Yeah, I'll look into it, all right, Chef, bring us home.
Speaker 6 (02:04:47):
Okay, So we go to Minnesota, specifically Henna Pinnat County,
where I've been there. A candidate for the county board
has been arrested because she threw a tranch at a
tenant at her airbnb. So Marissa Simonetti, she's running for
a seat on the county board, said that the incident
(02:05:07):
stem from a local attorney. Her name is Jackie Vazkaz.
She allegedly refused to leave the airbnb. There's a bunch
of disputes in which you know, she went there, then canceled,
and it wasn't a great stay, and eventually it just
it turned out that she refused to leave, and instead
of trying to deal with this in a more civil matter,
she went to a pet store, bought a tarantula and
(02:05:31):
threw it at the tenant who wouldn't leave. Now, she
ended up being arrested for assaults for doing so because
of that with intent to cause great bodily harm, and
actually expressed a surprise that she was arrested for that.
But when you're running for office, it's best to kind
of keep your cool, no matter how stressful things might be,
and throwing a tarantula at someone and maybe not the
(02:05:53):
best campaign idea, at least from my perspective. So exactly,
bris says Seminettie, candidate for the Hennepin County border of Minnesota.
Speaker 7 (02:06:04):
What kind of brand new fool are you?
Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
I wonder how those tarantula's living that cold weather up there.
Have you ever seen a tarantula up close and personal? Yes,
they are freaky. All got arrow over and they can
jump like six or.
Speaker 1 (02:06:18):
Eight feet and you can see their eyes. That's yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:06:21):
And I will tell you I had to stare one
down once. I was in Ventur County on a construction
site as many years ago, and I walk into this
garage and there's this tarantula. Dude was big man, and
they jumped like six feet. I'm like, okay, this is uh,
this this this might be a weird one. Nothing happened,
of course, but they're very freaky to look at in person.
(02:06:44):
You know, they should they should shave their legs. And
to get my drift all right, Another another great rousing
edition of What kind of brand new fool Are You?
Which now enables us by the way, took us to
Hennebon County, Minnesota, took us to Sarasota, Florida. In Tahoe City, California,
we got the globe cover that now enables us to
segue into our second favorite bit, which we lovingly refer
(02:07:06):
to as what my name? All right, you guys have
been killing it and this so uh we're gonna come
sick with it tonight with some good ones. Okay, I'm
the only major League baseball player in history to hit
thirty home runs before July first twice, Shave Mogangar, What
my name?
Speaker 1 (02:07:27):
So first one twice?
Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
Ah, Chipper Jones, not Chipper Jones, but give you credit
for coming up with the with Chipper Jones. Larry Jones
was his real name, went by Chipper. I'm the only
major league baseball player to hit thirty home runs before
July first twice? Mark Ramsey, what my name?
Speaker 1 (02:07:54):
Cool?
Speaker 2 (02:07:54):
Papa bellbo pull that thought, man, because if you don't
have the correct answer, these great names from the past
they tickled me. All right, I'm the only major League
baseball player to hit thirty home runs before July first twice.
The chef Kevin.
Speaker 7 (02:08:13):
Wired, I'm going to guess Barry Bonds.
Speaker 2 (02:08:15):
That was actually a good guess. But it's not him,
believe it or not. Some obscure guy by the name
of Babe Ruth.
Speaker 1 (02:08:22):
Oh he did it.
Speaker 7 (02:08:25):
I never heard of that guy, right.
Speaker 2 (02:08:29):
Well, that's why, yeah, that's why I brought it up.
Because really, you know, I don't think anybody had even
done it since Babe Ruth.
Speaker 1 (02:08:35):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (02:08:36):
And he did it twice, so yeah, you guys are
on it. See. I had to be careful with this one,
all right. So uh, let's say she's Shane and I'll
tell you. Let's se if shake get this one because
the chef got this last week and it's a beauty.
I didn't think you'd get it. I'm an ex major
league pitcher and I once stated a girl by the
name of Madison Bumgarner Shae, what my name?
Speaker 1 (02:08:59):
Madison? Above on it.
Speaker 2 (02:09:01):
It is him. That's the only reason we know that story.
Speaker 1 (02:09:03):
He admitted that he did a girl named Madison.
Speaker 6 (02:09:08):
Always thought that was a joke, like that's fun not
a joke.
Speaker 7 (02:09:12):
The fact that that's reals what's really funny to me.
Speaker 1 (02:09:14):
I saw that story too, and I was like, yeah,
that's that's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (02:09:19):
Yeah, quite a personality, mad Bum. I think he's retired
in Arizona now, But okay, you mentioned cool Papa bell.
Speaker 7 (02:09:27):
A TV courses in Arizona.
Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Yeah, true, that's a that's a story for a different day.
Maybe you can tell later, all right. I am actually
the first ever black player to play in the Major
League Baseball All Star Game? Mark Ramsey, what my name
is it?
Speaker 11 (02:09:48):
Back to cool Papa Bell?
Speaker 1 (02:09:49):
Not cool Papa Bell.
Speaker 2 (02:09:50):
But you're not far off, all right. First black player
to ever play in the Major League Baseball All Star Game,
Shaye Morgan Guard. What my name?
Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
That's that's Jackie right, it's Gottay Jacklin's.
Speaker 2 (02:09:59):
Not jack He Robison. Believe it or not. Yeah, it's
not first black player to ever play in the Major
League Baseball All Star Games. Guy had quite a career.
The chef Kevin Wire. What my name?
Speaker 7 (02:10:11):
All Star Game? Mini Minoso?
Speaker 2 (02:10:14):
Oh, I loved Mini Minoso. He actually had a bat
in the major leagues at fifty three. Actually, Larry Doby.
Larry Doby had a lot of records. You got to
google his career sometime. He was the first ever black
player in the American League, first black player in the
Major League Baseball All Star Game? All right, thirty two
years ago this week we just had the NBA Draft.
(02:10:35):
So thirty two years ago this week, I was drafted
number one by the Orlando Magic.
Speaker 1 (02:10:40):
Mark Ramsey, What.
Speaker 2 (02:10:40):
My name was this?
Speaker 11 (02:10:43):
Shaquille O'Neil.
Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
It is Sequille O'Neill. There we go.
Speaker 1 (02:10:47):
Now we're off and running. All right, let's flip to hockey.
Speaker 2 (02:10:51):
Everybody's feared, right. I have coached as an NFL No,
try that again in English. I as an NHL head coach,
coached one eighty five NHL games before claiming and winning
my first ever Stanley Cup. That's the most of any coach.
The chef Kevin Wyrett.
Speaker 7 (02:11:09):
What my name, I'm gonna guess, Darryl Soder God, that's.
Speaker 2 (02:11:17):
A good guess. It's not him.
Speaker 1 (02:11:18):
That's a good name.
Speaker 2 (02:11:20):
As an NHL head coach, I coached one nine hundred
and eighty five NHL games before winning my first ever
Stanley Cup. That's the most of any coach. Mark Ramsey,
what my name?
Speaker 11 (02:11:32):
I don't know his name, but it's the Panther coach.
Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
Paul Maurice.
Speaker 2 (02:11:35):
I'm gonna give it to you. Yeah, it's actually Paul Maurice,
former coach of the Detroit Junior Red Wings. And not
to you why that's almost two thousand games. But he
got it done.
Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
Did you see what he said to the Stanley Cup.
Go ahead, I'm gonna want to steal your thunder.
Speaker 2 (02:11:48):
Go ahead and do it. Tell Pete people.
Speaker 5 (02:11:49):
Oh, so he basically was like looking at it and
I think he said some some bad things to it.
Speaker 1 (02:11:54):
But he goes, ah, like it took way too long
to get you.
Speaker 5 (02:11:58):
And then he was right after when it was the
first time he was holding it up. It was a
really amazing moment to see. I think it's it's funny.
Speaker 2 (02:12:05):
They asked him. I don't know if this made the
I don't know if this made the media, but somebody
asked him, what did you tell your team before Game seven?
He goes, they were a needed some profanity, and.
Speaker 1 (02:12:16):
I provided he's a legend.
Speaker 2 (02:12:19):
He's great. Now we're coaching the Detroit Junior Red Wings
legend back in the Motor City and I know I
was there. All right, Uh, this one's into the cookie jar.
Let's dive into the music world. I'm known as the
King of rocket Roll and this week in nineteen seventy seven,
I performed my final ever concert at Market Square Arena
(02:12:40):
in Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (02:12:41):
Mark Ramsey, what my name is it?
Speaker 11 (02:12:44):
Little Richard?
Speaker 2 (02:12:46):
Not Little Richard? Known as the King of rocket Roll
and in nineteen seventy seven. This week in nineteen seventy seven,
I performed my final concert at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis.
The chef Kevin Wire.
Speaker 1 (02:12:57):
What't my name?
Speaker 7 (02:12:58):
I'm sorry? Can you repeat that?
Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
Yes, I'm known as the King of Rocket Roll and
in nineteen seventy seven I performed my final ever concert
at marketstare Arena.
Speaker 7 (02:13:06):
Elvis.
Speaker 2 (02:13:07):
It is, in fact Elvis Presley. Well, no peanut butter
or honey, but no sandwich Friday. All right, I'm here
all week to show Saturday, opening up for Shaky Green
and the Catskills.
Speaker 1 (02:13:23):
Don't miss it.
Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
I've won karaoke contest, but my go to is always
New York, New York. But I usually open up a
couple of Elvis songs and I got that bass baritone. Yeah,
maybe we'll do that some night and there could be
alcohol involved.
Speaker 1 (02:13:35):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (02:13:37):
I'm the first black player in Major League Baseball to
ever win Rookie of the Year. Shae Mogangar, what my name?
Speaker 1 (02:13:45):
Um, Jackie? That is Jackie Rabbitson. I thought you're trying
to check me there again, trying to trick you.
Speaker 7 (02:13:51):
I think that was the first year they had the
World War Two, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
The first bonus points to the chef Kevin Wired. Help
yourself to some so he was.
Speaker 7 (02:13:59):
The first ever period rookie of the Year.
Speaker 2 (02:14:02):
Wow foctx, Well, I guess that would be true. You know,
I listen, I got a few holes in my game.
I'm no high school dropout. I did go the full
six years, but you know, I don't know always bat
a thousand?
Speaker 1 (02:14:12):
All right?
Speaker 2 (02:14:13):
The mix my metaphors there. I'm the first black player
to ever hit a home run in the World Series,
Mark Ramsey, what my name.
Speaker 4 (02:14:22):
Was it?
Speaker 11 (02:14:22):
Willie Mays?
Speaker 2 (02:14:23):
Not Willie Mays. I'm the first black player to ever
hit a home run in the World Series. The chef
Kevin Wire, what my name?
Speaker 4 (02:14:33):
Ugh?
Speaker 7 (02:14:34):
I am going to guess. Roy campanellat oh another good guess.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
Great great former Dodger. Great story about Roy Campanella. He
went to a high school. He went to Simon Gratz
High School in Philadelphia. One hundred and sixty five guys
tried out for the high school team. True story. There
were forty guys in left field, forty guys in right field,
forty guys in centerfield.
Speaker 1 (02:14:53):
Roy was a left fielder.
Speaker 2 (02:14:54):
He looked behind home plate, says, hey, nobody's tried out
for catcher. He ran back behind home plate and the
rest his history. Wow, little Roy Campanella knowledge there for you,
drop a little Roy Campanella knowledge. I'm the first black
player to ever had a home run in the World Series.
Shane Mogngar, what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:15:09):
Okay, I know Satchel Paige was like one of the first,
one of the first. I'm guessing he's on that team.
I don't Oh, I hate that. Oh yeah, I don't
know this one.
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
I'm the first black player to ever had a home
run in the World Series.
Speaker 12 (02:15:25):
Mark Ramsey, with my name, it's not Willie McCovey, now Willie.
Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
McCovey, great former San Francisco Giant. We're number forty four.
It's once again.
Speaker 1 (02:15:38):
Larry Doby. Oh my god, I gotta love this guy.
Speaker 2 (02:15:40):
Larry Doey, Oh, you gotta.
Speaker 1 (02:15:41):
He had was a legend. He so he played with
Did he play with Satchel Page?
Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
No?
Speaker 4 (02:15:45):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:15:46):
He I well, no, he didn't play with him. Larry
came up with the Cleveland Indians a couple of years
after Jackie. Oh, okay, he was the first ever americaly.
But he was a hell of a player player, all right.
So let's really switch gears. I'm the only Heisman Trophy
winner that was born in Japan. Mark Ramsey, what my name?
Speaker 11 (02:16:11):
I'm not sure if Reggie Bush was born.
Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
He was born, but I don't think he was in Japan. Sorry, Mark,
I couldn't resist my man, all right, I am the
only Heisman Trophy winner ever.
Speaker 6 (02:16:25):
Born in Japan. The chef Kevin wired with my name
Man Hesman Trophy.
Speaker 1 (02:16:31):
You know this one? Come on dig to you there
are stories about it.
Speaker 7 (02:16:36):
Well, I mean, I guess thing is the son of
a military man then right, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:16:41):
May have been a very good clue there. I'm the
only Heisman Trophy winner born in Japan, Shave Mogangar. What
my name?
Speaker 1 (02:16:47):
RG three?
Speaker 2 (02:16:48):
And is RG three? Robert Griffin and his parents were
in the military, and he was born in Okinawa. Good job,
good job, all right? Last one, last one.
Speaker 4 (02:17:00):
Right.
Speaker 2 (02:17:00):
In two thousand and two, in the NBA draft, a
guy named Lebron James was the number one overall pick,
but I was the number two pick. Mark Ramsey, what
my name?
Speaker 11 (02:17:16):
Repeat the question?
Speaker 1 (02:17:17):
Please?
Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
Okay? In the two thousand and two NBA draft, Lebron
James was the number one overall pick, but I was
the number two overall pick. What my name.
Speaker 11 (02:17:31):
Well, we know it's not spud web.
Speaker 2 (02:17:34):
We know it's not spud web, which is actually a correct,
correct answer. Does that counts a correct answer? Let's say
Cliff Claven that he was on jeopard Do you guys
remember the show Cheers? Yes, so Cliff Claven, the mailman,
he was on Cheers, he was on in a spoof.
He was on Jeopardy. And Alex Trebek asks a question,
(02:17:56):
you know what did Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Edison have
in common? Cliff Claven hits the buzzer, goes, who are
two people that have never been in my kitchen? And
Alex Trebeco's obviously, sir, that's not the question answer we're
looking for. He said, obvious to who He starts a
big argument. Anyway, So you said it's not spud web.
I'm inclined to give you credit for it, but it's
(02:18:17):
not the answer we're looking for. Lebron was the number
one pick overall in the two thousand and two NBA draft,
but I was the number two pick overall.
Speaker 6 (02:18:24):
The chef Kevin Wired what my name I'm gonna guess Mellow,
not Carmelo. I think he was still Yeah, I think
he was the same draft as he wasn't the same draft.
Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
That's the year he as a freshman. They wanted all Syracuse.
He had good good guess was not Carmelo all right?
In the two thousand and two NBA draft, I was
the number one overall. Lebron was the number one overall pick,
but I was the number two overall pick. Shane Odengar,
what my name?
Speaker 5 (02:18:49):
I think it was two thousand and three, by the way, Bernie.
But at Darko, right, it's one of the best drafts.
Speaker 2 (02:18:56):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:18:56):
It is two thousand and three.
Speaker 2 (02:18:57):
Take it for correct me.
Speaker 1 (02:18:58):
It is, in fact, Darko Millichip, you had I screwed
that up, all right? Shame on me. Uh okay, I'm
a big yeah, you know what.
Speaker 2 (02:19:09):
And I covered that Pistons team and Darko was a
rookie and they actually went to the NBA Finals and
beat the Lakers in five in two thousand and four.
And you know, Joe Dumars and Larry Brown never lived
it down. It's not fair. If you could have seen
Darko work out, you look like Wimby.
Speaker 1 (02:19:24):
But they didn't know.
Speaker 2 (02:19:25):
He was a young, immature kid who liked to hung
out in bars. He with a fake ID, and he
was a terrible practice player, and him and Larry Brown
never got along. You know, I spent on twelve years
in the league.
Speaker 5 (02:19:34):
You wanta no fun fact about the draft class? Go ahead,
nine all stars in that draft class.
Speaker 2 (02:19:40):
Nicely done. Yeah, that was a damn good draft class.
Speaker 1 (02:19:42):
There's a crazy draft class.
Speaker 2 (02:19:45):
Coming up.
Speaker 1 (02:19:46):
Good news.
Speaker 2 (02:19:47):
You may not see Joey Chestnut in Brooklyn or in
New York on July fourth, but guess what coming up
not far after. It'll be like Ali versus Fraser, Hearns
versus Hagler, Pacquiao versus Mayweather. We'll tell you what's coming up,
Chestnut versus. You're gonna have to wait for it. It's
(02:20:08):
called Unfinished Beef. It's gonna be shown on Netflix, coming
to a city near you, and you don't have to
buy the NFL Sunday ticket.
Speaker 1 (02:20:14):
To get it.
Speaker 2 (02:20:15):
I'm Bernie Fraddle, were Company Life from the Las Vegas
Fox Sports Radio Tirek dot Com Studios. Keep it locked
righty here, you're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show on
Fox Sports Radio. All right back on the Bernie Fraddle Show.
Yeap Mama did say there'd be days like this. I
(02:20:36):
need to correct myself. I know better, I think Shay.
You asked if Satchel Page and Larry Adobie had played together,
and of course he did nineteen forty eight World Series.
I know better and my research at Larry Adobie. Not
only did they help the win Indians win the World Series,
I'm pretty sure Larry Dobie hit a game winning home
run in one of those games. Props to Darryl Griffith,
(02:20:58):
Daryl J. Griffith, He's been a long time listener of
the show, Doing you Guys to Disservice Burn, they asked
good questions. Did Satra play with Adobie Adobe? Yes, he did.
Then they went it all together with the Indians. Great show,
happy fourth. Yeah, they did nineteen forty eight Cleveland Indians.
And I did no better. And I just whiffed on that.
Speaker 1 (02:21:17):
Adobe guys a legend then.
Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
I mean, he had a lot of offensive records and
he was quite he was quite the player.
Speaker 1 (02:21:23):
He was one of the first black players to win
a World Series. Then too with Sachel Page. That's so cool.
Speaker 2 (02:21:28):
Yeah, yep, And I gotta say I was moved by
the game. Two weeks ago, Thursday, I drove by Rick
wood Field. Last year, I took a trip to Birmingham.
I took a trip to Tuscal, Lucid to visit the
University of Alabama campus. It was April of twenty twenty three.
Drove right by that stadium. I remember thinking to myself,
what must it have been like to see a game there?
Because you can stand there and say, oh my god,
(02:21:49):
you know, you could have seen a seventeen eighteen year
old Willie May stand in that box, et cetera, et cetera,
right on down the line. By coming up, we do
have Chris Purfett's World of Soccer. But first we go
back to our guy, the chef, Kevin White with the latest.
Speaker 6 (02:22:02):
Yeah, it is a big time in soccer right now,
as we'll get into it with Christopher Fett in just
a few minutes. But the round of sixteen in the
Euro so Germany beats Denmark two to nil, Switzerland eliminates
Italy to nils. So it'll set up a couple of
games on a Sunday that will both be seen over
on Fox est where the Copa America Argentina at the
head of their group at three and zero. They beat
(02:22:23):
Peru two nil Lionel Messi did not play in that game.
Chile eliminated after they played to a scoreless draw against
Canada in a Major League Baseball Dodgers Giants game. After
the Giants won it on a walk off home run.
The Dodgers get paid back in extra innings, getting seven
runs in the top of the eleventh to win at
(02:22:44):
fourteen to seven. The defending champion Texas Rangers, it's really
gone going from bad to worse, as they have now
lost six straight, including a defeat to the Baltimore Orioles
six to five, but Corey Seeger having to leave the
game after he was hit by a pitch on his
left wrist x Racene but did not look good and
we'll have to see what his status is going forward.
Speaker 7 (02:23:04):
Angels on a roll.
Speaker 6 (02:23:05):
They've made it six straight wins, including an extra inning
victory against the Detroit Tigers six to five in the final.
The Padres are now on a five game winning streak.
Manny Machado two home runs to help San Diego over
Boston eleven to one. Vladimir Guerrero Junior with a big
game for the Toronto Blue Jays six runs batted in
as he helps Toronto take down the Yankees nine to three.
(02:23:27):
NBA news Paul George opting out of his contract with
the Clippers, Adrian Warzanowski saying he's gonna meet with the
Clippers the seventy six ers in Orlando Magic beginning on
Sunday night. Lebron James is opted out of his contrup
with the Lakers, but the expectation is he will be
returning to Los Angeles on a new deal.
Speaker 7 (02:23:45):
Back to Bernie, all right, Chef.
Speaker 2 (02:23:48):
Copa America continues, But regardless whether there is play on
the field off the field, in season or out of season,
there's always news. In what they call football, we call soccer.
It's time for Christopher Fetts World of Soccer.
Speaker 13 (02:24:04):
Dang the greatest goals, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.
Speaker 1 (02:24:20):
It's all here in this report from the world of Soccer.
Speaker 14 (02:24:25):
Well, Bernie, we've somehow gone through an easy what was
supposed to be an easy cruise in Copa at the
start of the group stages. After that game against Bolivia,
a two Niel drubbing that saw falaraen Balagan really stamp
his name on the US men's team as a fantastic pickup.
He only started playing for the country back in May
to suddenly it's live or die against Uruguay, and once
(02:24:48):
again the criticism is coming out for gregbor Haltz. Rightly,
so it's coming out for Timothy Way, who picked up
a red car that forced the US to play ten
on eleven from the eighteen minute onward in this match
against Panama, and it resulted in a two to one
Panama of victory over the US in front of a
home crowd in Atlanta.
Speaker 7 (02:25:10):
How the hell did we get here?
Speaker 14 (02:25:12):
And now the US is clinging on for dear life
and has to beat a very strong Uruguay squad.
Speaker 7 (02:25:17):
How how how well?
Speaker 14 (02:25:19):
Unfortunately the US, this seems to always be what has
happened to them as long as I've watched. You get
into a tournament and you see them do something really
cool against a team that, honestly they've been able to
beat handle Bolivia ranked eighty fourth in the world according
to FIFA. I think it was a team that the
US should have always kind of walked over to. Nil
(02:25:40):
didn't even really describe it. I think the US had
a lot more scoring chances than that, Especially Ricardo Peppi
just could not get a cross over to him to
save his life. With where he was in front of
the net all the time, I've never seen a man
more hungry in my life. But honestly, the criticism has
to fall on Timothy Way's head primarily. That is a
clean red. This was a sloppy game, and it was
(02:26:01):
a very brutal game. It's a very CONCACAF game. Two reds,
five yellow cards all told. But for anyone complaining about
the officiating, I'm sorry, that is a clean red. You
are not allowed to hit rod Rick Miller in the
head like that in the game of soccer. It's just
simply not allowed, and you can't get away with that.
I don't care what happens in CONCACAFF sometimes ways, unforced
(02:26:23):
error really forced the US on the back foot for
almost this entire game. And for a team that is
predicated on tempo attacking, going down the field and striking,
being forced to play on a defensive front with a
man down is just not a game the US is
able to play, and it showed. It showed when Panama
slogged them as bad as they did and managed to
(02:26:45):
get two goals on them a late goal here, stealing
even a single point from the US, and honestly, some
of this burnie does have to fall on the head
of Greg Berhalter.
Speaker 7 (02:26:54):
This is kind of my.
Speaker 14 (02:26:55):
Worry coming through here in that I don't think any
manager should ever have to look at a loss like
this and try to rationalize it if it was any
other country out there, and it was any other federation
than the US Federation, which can be a little bit
good old boy sometimes. Berhalter would not be able to
survive this thing if the US fails to move on
(02:27:16):
from the group stages, because quite honestly, it's supposed to
be your tune up for the World Cup. Panama probably
won't be in the World Cup. It is not a
World Cup team. And here you are, you know, pulling
a dumb one of your players, pulling a dumb red card.
Your substitution still not able to staunch the bleeding that
happened late in this game. Now, I do want to
say again props to Falariballigan. Fantastic pickup for the US.
(02:27:40):
Already five goals from the nation again.
Speaker 1 (02:27:42):
He joined in May. He had some ideas of what
kind of what he wanted to do.
Speaker 14 (02:27:47):
He was looking between England, where he was raised Nigeria
his parents, but he was born in the US and
thus he's able to join the US squad and he's
been the spark in both these games. He had the
loan goal here against Panama and the U is going
to have to look to him against Uruguay. Now I'm
going to get back to the US and the second
explain how they can advance in Copa. But first we
(02:28:07):
do have to talk about Euros because man, what a
European Championship. We have been having some fantastic scenes over
there in Germany. Scotland unfortunately sent home early Hungary fans.
Hungarian fans serenading them as they left saying no Scotland,
no party. The Scottish fans really showed up with the
fan culture here in Germany. Georgia, Georgia moving forward. I'm
(02:28:30):
not talking about the SEC. I am talking about the
Nation of Georgia with a win over Portugal to advance
and they will take on Spain here on Sunday. A
fantastic group glow up for them. And again we've talked
about Cavarc Shelley a little bit before, as I like
to know him as Kavara Dona when he was playing
(02:28:51):
for Napoli. He has been the spark that has really
helped Georgia move forward. England also playing on Sunday, man
have they struggled if spirits are low in the United States.
Two straight draws for the English squad, only two goals
in three matches, and everyone is really.
Speaker 2 (02:29:11):
Not feeling this.
Speaker 14 (02:29:12):
For England, they move forward, they'll be playing Slovakia, but
I don't know how many people are now expecting them
to really come out of this tournament in one piece.
A lot of the big nations here have really struggled,
France and Belgium both taking on each other. Belgium, of course,
losing in the first game against Slovakia has kind of
a wake up call that.
Speaker 1 (02:29:31):
Maybe their golden generation is about over.
Speaker 14 (02:29:34):
And for France, killing Nimbape, you know, just looking to
him to try to get things going for the country. Now,
Bernie as promised, let's get back to the US. Here
is the scenarios ahead of you. The US in playing
Uruguay while Panama plays Bolivia, a team that has just
been getting thrashed in Group C NonStop. They have to
(02:29:58):
score more points. So if Panama draws, the US has
to win. If Panama loses. They just the US has
to not lose, feeling that if Panama gets more points,
the US is out. If they are tied on points,
if say both Panama and the US win, then the
US has to make sure they are still ahead on
goal differential. Right now it is plus one for the
(02:30:20):
US minus one for Panamas. That's a two goal differential,
so Panama would have to beat by two goals whatever
the US put up. It's a tough ask and this
is going to be the game that sees of the
US is ready for the big times. Uruguay is very
strong country. The one silver lining is Uruguay's already through
Group CEE. It might mean that they decide some of
(02:30:40):
their starters they're starting eleven, they want to take them
off early, play some substitutes.
Speaker 1 (02:30:45):
Who knows.
Speaker 14 (02:30:46):
But I think that the US should not be expecting
an easy walk here, especially since Panama. I expect to
probably try to beat up on Bolivia to try to
get over that goal differential. Bernie, I ask you, do
you think the US has what it takes ahead of them,
because I think they do. But it's not going to
be easy and a result the other way is not
(02:31:08):
going to shock me at this point. But the US
has to have it if they want to show that
they are ready for the tune up for the World Cup.
They have to get to the knockout stage here in
Copa America. Cross your fingers, hold on for dear life.
We'll see you next time on the World of Soccer.
Speaker 2 (02:31:24):
You know, Chris Hope is not a strategy and I
could stay on paper. The US team might have what
it takes, but don't tell me. Show me. They've been
threatening for so long that it's become like the Boy
who Cried Wolf. If you get by drift coming up.
We wrap up the show, and you know we've talked
(02:31:45):
quite a bit of Joey Chestnut tonight. Well try this
on for size. He might be adding new dimensions to
the term Netflix and Chill can't believe I just said that.
Speaker 1 (02:31:57):
I'll button it up in a minute.
Speaker 2 (02:31:59):

right after we get off the air. By the way,
speaking of on the air, I'll be back on these
airwaves July fourth, from seven pm Pacific to eleven pm
alongside my guy Ernie Spaniel will be yucking it up
on the July fourth holiday. Arnie and I did July
fourth last year as well, so you will look forward
(02:33:27):
to joining us.
Speaker 1 (02:33:28):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:33:29):
So we talked earlier quite a bit about Joey chestnutt
and his various eating records, and how he will not
be part of the Spectacle this year in New York
for various reasons. I won't get into the legalities, and
then back and forth arguments, and you will see Joey
Chestnut on July fourth, apparently in El Paso, Texas. He's
accepted a challenge to take on four I think US
(02:33:55):
Army soldiers, and he'll crush all of them. Okay, maybe
they'll all eat ten hot dogs each in ten minutes
and Joy Chestnut Elite sixty five and that'll be the
end of that. But it'll be fun to watch if
you can watch it somewhere. I have no idea where
you'd be able to watch it, but I'll tell you
what you can watch because seizing on the Joy Chestnut absence,
(02:34:17):
as it were at the Great Spectacle where thirty thousand
people attend locally, and by the way, you notice you
haven't seen Kobayashi there and in probably a decade. Well,
Netflix on Labor Day, September second. Yeah, Netflix, they're into
everything else. So why not get into the competitive eating business?
Speaker 1 (02:34:36):
What the hell?
Speaker 2 (02:34:38):
Netflix clearly the streaming giant. They're going to host a
live streaming event on Labor Day, September second, featuring the
two legends of the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest, Joy
Chestnut and Takiro Kobeyashi. I bet you to know his
first name was Takiro. It's going to be called Chestnut
Versus Kobyashi, the Unfinished Beef. See what they did there. Now,
(02:35:02):
we don't know where the location is going to be at.
We still don't know the specific timing. And by the way,
Netflix had to throw a little zinger there because this
whole Kobayashi or checked that the whole apparently, the whole
Joey Chestnut issue revolved around the fact that he had
I think sign an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods and
one of the other plant based and so Nathan's hot
(02:35:25):
dogs are I think all beef, and these hot dogs
that they'll be using for the Chestnut Versus Kobayashi on
September second will be all beef as well. Now, as
you know, those two guys battle each other, brought the
best out of each other for years in the annual
Nathan's Contest, but time flies. They haven't competed head to
(02:35:48):
head in two thousand and nine and they tied and
Chestnut had to beat Kobayashi in a five hot dogs
sudden death eat off. True story, these two guys got
the resume. Joey Chestnut has won the Nathan's Contest sixteen times,
including the last eight years, but again not allowed to
(02:36:09):
participate this year because apparently he inked a sponsorship agreement
with Impossible Foods, and they recently released a plant based
hot talk Apparently that just did not sit well with
the peeps over there at Nathan's. So I think the
absence is going to have an impact on the ratings.
And Chestnut still holds the record for most hot talks
(02:36:29):
consumed in ten minutes with seventy six. Right, but this
is serious business, he even. Joey Chestnut even issued a
statement regarding their upcoming September second face off. He said,
cod through all my years of competitive eating, Kobayashi stands
out as my fiercest rival. Competing against him pushed me
to be so much better. I know that fans have
(02:36:51):
waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry.
I can't wait for our massive showdown on Netflix. It's
time to give the people what they want. I don't
know that I was asking for this, but I'm gonna watch.
If you saw the ESPN, He's either he sixty or
thirty for thirty came out about eight years ago. It's amazing,
really really tremendous journalistic work. Kobayashi also a six time
(02:37:11):
Nathan's winner. He was really the first competitive eater really
become an international celebrity, and he started out in two
thousand and one. He had fifty hot dogs in twelve minutes,
which is, you know, was unheard of them. Now they're
up to seventy six. He had a dispute with Major
League Eating as well that prevented him from returning to
the competition and again. He was also part of another
(02:37:32):
Netflix documentary called Hack Your Health The Secrets of Your Gut.
Truth of the matter is, Kobayashi said he doesn't want
to retire till he takes down Chestnut one last time.
So here's your chance. Unfinished Beef September second on Netflix,
Netflix and Chill Baby, Why not while you're enjoying the
hot dog eating competition, that's gonna do it for the
(02:37:52):
Bernie Fradle Show. See on these airwaves Thursday night, July
fourth with Ronnie spanierd Keep It Locked Up next. They're great,
Andy Furman, I'm Fox Sports Radio.
