Speaker 1 (00:01):

Speaker 2 (00:10):

Speaker 1 (00:11):
We are back, babies, so back and like right in
time for the summer of soccer in full swing. Euro
quarterfinals England taking Switzerland this morning in PKS. We got
Netherlands and Turkey on right now. Could I just like
give a shout out to European fans celebrations on real

(00:32):
inject that into my veins? Please?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Seeing these just like watch parties.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I want to be there.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
America have fomo.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I have so much fomo watching these European American watch.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
American fans need to step their game up because like
between all the chants, all the watch parties, the way
that they coordinate dances in the streets with thousands and
thousands of people, like, come on, guys.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Step up our games, step up your game, our game.
We inject that into my bangs.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Can we like fly out for the finalswhere like I
don't know anything, but like well Fox pay for that,
please send us.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
We'll like make all of the content.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
But like just amazing and then we got COPA quarterfinals
later today Columbia versus Panama or Aguay versus Brazil. Like,
it has been incredible, but I just got to say
we've been getting way too many shootouts. And as someone
who lost a national title in shootouts, the way that
the anxiety takes over my body watching these things, it's madness.

(01:32):
I don't even know how to explain it.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
I'm just like, I'm back.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
I'm back and back watching its completely.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
I absolutely love it. It's so dramatic and it's so dramatic.
Its just it pulls you in. And I mean I
think I was a little like coming out.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Alex so as you know, waiting for Carmen this is
the end, like of.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
The Switzerland England game, because I have.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
It on in the car. I'm live streaming it, so
I'm like, she'll know that, right because I'm not gonna
like not watch it. No, she makes me sit outside
for five minutes until she can finish watching it live inside.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I'm like, dude, come.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
On, beat beat we were really last away.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
We were fine, well, yeah, holiday weekend. I keep forgetting
it's taking like what like I'm not going to talk
about traffic in LA but like the fact that I
got from the beach to the valley in like thirty minutes.
Today madness madness usually yeah, I don't know. Also, like,
can we take a moment for Ruben's iconic Fourth of
July white party.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
This that happened this week.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Everybody was there, and I gotta give Joey b so
much credit. He won the fashion show fresh off his
runway performance in Paris, he walked, He walked the Vogue
Fashion show in Paris. Brady and c J. Stroud had
a little pregame party on the beach.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Like yeah, little pick up game game.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
That was so fun.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
I've also never been to the Hampton, so I'm like, hey,
somebody invite me.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
And he's going to maybe in a glow up. It's happened.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's happened right now.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
He is just like super suited from like really great
NFL quarterbacks. Like beyond that, he's a star in his
own right. I mean the backless suit and Paris Fashion
Week was.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
It was so funny.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
We were talking about on the herd and j Max
like what is this?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
What is the name of the back I was like,
it's cold fashion, this is high end fashion. And he
is slaying, absolutely slaying the Runway show. And can you
imagine what this is gonna do for his brand moving forward?
Look at Travis Kelce like he's may He's made the
transition over into the entertainment pop star wars the famous
football player on the face. He is all you need.

(03:38):
It's a whole new audience, all new brand deals. It's
so good for his brand.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Justin Jefferson, who was alongside Joey b for that few
was as well.

Speaker 6 (03:45):
He didn't.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
He didn't, didn't not the open back, that's the open
back stole the show, stole the show. The show all right, guys,

And guys, we've got great guests per USU coming on
the show today. We have NBA insider Mark Medina joining
us live from Vegas in about fifteen minutes. He is
at USA Basketball Olympic training waiting to talk to all
the guys there for day one. Then we have the
host of NFL and Fox Dave Hellman to break down
the off season madness and the Dak Bootgate and some

(04:28):
soccer everything in between. We have producer Patrick with US Today,
Technical producer Chris.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Purphett, Brian Finley at the News dek okay, and we're gonna.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Have a great day, and let's start with the beautiful
chaos that was NBA free agency, big signings, big news
like it just took it took the sports world by storm.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
And yet biggest story to come out of that.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
That the Lakers locked up the James family this week,
both of them, the signing Lebron James to a Max
deal two year, one hundred and four million dollars and
then drafting and signing Bronnie James to a rookie deal
four years, seven point nine million dollars guarantee.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Now, there's a lot of it mixed motions around this situation.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
I'm gonna start with the positive, okkay, because I'm a
I'm a glass half full kind of gal.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, always always, Lebron James and Bronnie.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Will be making NBA history as a first father son
duo to play together in the NBA and not right there,
pretty darn cool, so cool, so cool.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Now there's been a lot of pushback. Did Brownie deserve it?

Speaker 1 (05:39):
This is nepotism now, obviously there's no denying Lebron James
had a hand in helping get Bronnie James drafted by
the Lakers. But it was a fifty fifth draft pick,
you guys, that's the bottom, that's the bottom of the barrel,
and probably helped get them the guaranteed contractor that's not
always the norm for a seven round pick.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
But I hate to break it to you, Welcome to business.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Nepotism is everywhere in every industry in the world, and
a lot of the time it's not earned or deserved,
like when a child takes over a family business, like
a lot of team owners, that usually gets passed down
to the kids in the front office staff taken over
a team.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
But in Bronnie's case, he grew up in the game.
He trains with.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
His father, Lebron James, who is the greatest shooter of
all time, one of the greatest players of all time,
arguably the goat. Like he is a good player, and
I just want to remind everybody. Do you know how
many big name players followed in their father's footsteps in
the NBA. Here, just to name you a few, Kobe Bryant,
Stephan Seth Curry, Clay Thompson, Devin Booker, Jalen Brunson, Al Horford,

(06:52):
Kevin Love.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Gary Payton, Luke Walton.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
I don't know any of those ring about all of
their fathers also played in the NBA. It is a
very common thing for sons who grow up with their
fathers in the NBA to have the same dream and
follow it. Now, this is just the first time we're
actually gonna see them play together. And I know Lebron
and Browny will get that historic moment. They're gonna walk

(07:17):
onto the court together as a first father son duo.
It's gonna be epic, crowd's gonna go wild, and he's
gonna get that moment. He's been talking about wanting that
moment for the last couple of years, and he wasn't
gonna retire until he got this moment with his son.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
But he's gonna spend majority of his time as.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
He should developing and it all starts in about thirty minutes.
We're getting We're gonna We're gonna get to see him
and his first summer League game, and he's gonna have
to prove it. He's still going to have to prove it.
Now is where the work comes in, right.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
First of all, I just like this is such a
cool thing, Like I want, I want to just take
a second and say, let this be cool.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yes, let it be so cool.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
Because at the end of the day, you're right, he's
taken with the fifty fifth pick in the NBA drafts,
in the second round.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Second round picks are already just gambles.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah, they don't always pan out, no for at all
for every team.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
The second round is just a shot at a good player, yes,
And to be fair, we don't know what lebron James Junior.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yeah, Bronnie James.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
We don't know what he is as a player because
he had twenty five games at USC he only started
six of.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Them, recovering from cardiac arrest at the beginning of his
college career.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
So we he is an unknown, which doesn't mean that
he's bad necessarily. And again, he has this work ethic
instilled in him from his father, arguably one of the
greatest works in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
All the like everything at his fingertips that his dad hass.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
He's had everything at his fingertips. He's had every resource
and he's going to get it. He's going to be
given these times to this time to develop and Listen,
Lebron James is going to get that moment. Like you said, Yeah,
the reality of this is Bronnie is going to be
playing in crunch time at the.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
End of the season. Hasn't earned it.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
No, Lebron James wants to win another title too before
he retires. He is not going to insist that Bronni
get all these minutes and stuff if he doesn't deserve it.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
And let me just tell you here, what would motivate
the greatest player of our time right now to not
only win a title for himself, win a title with
his son. This is going to be so much added
motivation for Lebron James.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
Yeah, yeah, And.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
He hears everything, you guys. He's a media mogul. He
is on social media. He sees and reads everything. He
knows all the backlash he's getting right now, and do
you know what this is doing. He's backlogging it for
all of this motivation. He does everything all over the motivation.
He does everything all the greats do. Where he manufactures
motivation by using media clips, by using slights and this,

(09:52):
and even if they're just perceived slights.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I mean, huh, Kobe did it? Tom Brady does it?

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Or did it? Tiger Woods does it? Like all of
these Michael Jordan, Jordan did it all?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
It's about the spite list. Oh, the most epics fite
list of all time.

Speaker 6 (10:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
I shuddered to think what Jordan would have manufactured had
social media been around when he played, although it probably
would have been good for.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
His career overall.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
No, At the same time, I just this is not
a big deal when it comes to you, all right,
did Bronnie maybe take someone's spot in that second list
that the Lakers could Maybe? But at the same time,
it's always you're always taking a gamble at that at
that stage of the draft, Like if you didn't take
them with the first round pick, and the first.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Round pick was a steal.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
The fact that they got Dalton Connect, the SEC Player
of the year scoring machine, which is exactly what the
Lakers need. They're not on the same level Bronnie James
and don't connect, Like they're not looking at them the
same No.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
And they weren't taken at the same level but honestly,
the Boston Celtics had the opportunity to do the funniest
thing ever and they didn't do it.

Speaker 7 (10:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
I was holding my breath thinking, but I don't think that.
I don't think the brotherhood would let that happen necessarily.
And I think that, you know, there's a respect involved
as well.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
I like cool calls were made like don't take them.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Oh no, that's what I'm saying. That's kind of respect.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
That's the brotherhood that everybody was like kind of agreed,
a gentleman's agreement that this was going to happen.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
And that's why these gentlemen's just cool.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Just let this be cool. Let this be a first
in the NBA.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Yeah, this is like, I mean, this is just completely
unheard of and unprecedented, and it's so cool.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Cool.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
I know, let it be cool.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I'm here for it now.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
My big question is how does the rest of the
team feel about this? Right because we haven't heard from
their number two star on the team, the quote future
of the team, Anthony Davis, And there were reports before
they hired JJ like let's go back to like Lebron
even though like he said, he didn't have his hand
in it and helping JJ get the job, Like you're

(11:48):
not going to hire a coach without your star player
giving you a thumbs up some thumbs down, especially when
he is your podcast partner and a dear friend.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Nothing wrong with that. Again, like we we know Lebron.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
James is handpaking where everybody is gonna go. But how
does Anthony Davis feel about this? And Shack had a
really interesting take on JJ Reddick as the new head coach.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
You have that sound, Let's play that real quick.

Speaker 8 (12:14):
For me as a player, if I didn't respect the coach,
it was easy for me to turn my one hundred
percent down.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
So the question is he went on to share the
difference of like having a coach that you didn't respect
and then having a guy say like Phil Jackson, where
he came in and was like one hundred percent respect
no matter what whatever you say. Phil. JJ was just
in the league a few years ago. So how will
that translation be from peer to coach? Like JJ has

(12:44):
a lot of uphill battles coming in to be the
Lakers head coach. Earning the respect as a coach, you
know you're going to get it from Lebron. He's going
to make sure the younger guys respect him. But we
have not heard from Anthony Davis yet, like, ad, how
does he feel about this? You're also trying to get
the Lakers back to a championship or bust team because
that's the standard for the Lakers here in LA. And

(13:04):
now you're working with Lebron and Bronni and managing that
whole situation with how the teammates feel about this. Yes,
it's a really cool situation, but you also like, this
has never been done before. We don't know how this
is going to affect, like team chemistry and team atmosphere,
and having a son and father and the greatest player
of all time getting a son on the team.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
So there's But.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
That's the thing though, is Lebron James comes with the track. Yes,
Lebron James has willed the multiple teams almost solely, almost
on his own to NBA championships. So you have no
choice but to respect who Lebron respects. You have to,
and Lebron respects JJ Reddick. Yeah, so therefore everybody else
will fall in line, I have to think, including Anthony Davis,

(13:45):
because even Anthony Davis understands that Lebron has this poll.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
He has this.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
Power, he has this respect because he is the star
of the Lakers, whether or not he's the best player
on the team currently, Yeah, he is still the star
of the Lakers, and he is. He is probably the
most powerful NBA player in the entirely.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
But I'm also curious how this move affected free agents
wanting to come to the Lakers because Lebron gave a
list of guys he would take a pay cut for.
Obviously they didn't get any of those guys, so Lebron
took the Max deal.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
So that's something we're going to dive into a little later.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
We're going to take a quick break here, but when
we come back, we're heading to Vegas with Mark Medina,

Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitaliti. We are broadcasting live from the Tarak
dot Com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your Saturday afternoon with Carme and me. But it is
time for our first guest, who is joining us live
from USA Basketball training camp in Vegas. Please welcome NBA
insider Mark.

Speaker 10 (15:29):
Medina, Alex Carmen.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 10 (15:33):
I'm thankfully saying cool and hydrated because as of now
I've yet to stuff outside.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, don't do that, don't do that.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
I was, I was in Vegas last weekend.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Brutal, absolutely brutal.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
But okay, so you are there for USA Basketball super
Team getting ready for the Olympics. Just paint the picture
give us the vibe everyone together for the first day today.

Speaker 10 (15:55):
Yeah, well, I think on tay for it's about can
this be the sequel to the redeem team? And they
have you know, that disappointing finish in the Feeble World Cup,
and you got really the heavy headers of like the
Ogs of Lebron James and Anthony Davis. Ironic or not ironically,
but surprisingly even though Steph Curry is now in OG,
this is actually his first Olympics ever. He missed you know,

(16:17):
the past few games because of injuries and you know,
wanting to recharge post COVID. So yeah, it is a
mix of like OG guys like Duran and Lebron, someone
like Steph who's this is his first go around, and
then a real collection of you know, the young talent
in this league with Kevin Duran and Edwards and Tyres
Halburn Drew Holidays. So it is a pretty good combination

(16:40):
of players and not to mention they're all pretty skilled.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Yeah, I mean this sounds like a super dream team.
I was just gonna say, this is well, this is
like this is the perfect storm of the old, the
veterans that we've come to know, crossing of the guards
and the younger players. So how has that or how
do you envision that dynamic then going between the guys
that are, you know, the up and comers but like

(17:04):
established in their own right, and then the vets that,
especially in the case of staphf getting their first shot
at this.

Speaker 10 (17:10):
Yeah, I'm sure when we asked that really good question
to Steve Kerr, he's going to say, you know what,
it's fluid, it's the first day of training camp. These
are the twelve best players in the world. He'll figure
out lineup combinations. But if I had a guess, I
would think it's safe to pull Lebron James, Kevin Durant,
and Steph Curry in the starting lineup. So I think
everyone else it's up in the air because you have

(17:32):
some players that are more experienced, like a Kawhi Leonard
and an Anthony Davis. But I think with those two
players specifically, I would think they're managing them with care
because of their injury history. But the other thing is
a lot of these other young guys are just really emerging.
I mean, I'm literally reading off the roster here, and

(17:52):
I'm not, I think exaggerated. When every single person you know,
has a lot of upside and ability to become a
superstar player. That's Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards, Joel mb
Tyrese Haliburn and Drew Holliday Jason Tatum. So it's a
good problem for Steve Kerr to have, and I think regardless,
like it's hard for him to make any quote unquote

(18:14):
bad decision because this team's so stacked. But this is
much different than it was in the Dream Team, Like
they might beat certain teams by double digits, but it's
not going to be every team Like France is the
real deal. They have a lot of good marquee players,
So I think it could be similar to that eight
games where they face in a formidable opponent, whether it's

(18:35):
Spain or France or anyone else that could really test them.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
I mean, I think the France.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
We've had some of the top players in the NBA
over the last couple of years come out of France,
so we know that the level of play there has
reached the level of play in the United States. Would
this be a huge disappointment? Is it gold or bust
kind of mental going into.

Speaker 10 (18:57):
This, It's it's always gold or bust, regardless of how
well you know the international growth has taken place with basketball.
I think the other thing is that the FEBA tournaments
have always been different because this top tier, cream of
the crop players don't always play those games. Yeah, and
here with the Olympics, everyone's invested. And when I think,

(19:20):
even when you look at the past two games in
Rio in twenty sixteen Tokyo twenty twenty one year later
because of COVID, there were some notable emissions because of
injuries or just the unique circumstances with the COVID games.
Specifically here, everyone is fully committed with the US. So
even if they're going to face tough, tough competition, if

(19:42):
they don't win gold, it'll be incredibly disappointed.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Yeah, especially with the star stud of team. Now you
mentioned Steve Kerr. It's hard for him to make a
bad decision. But there were some stories this week that
Lebron might come off the bench. Do you see that
actually happening in Paris?

Speaker 10 (19:57):
I don't see that happening. You know again, I would
suspect once we talk to him at practice, he's going
to say it's all fluid.

Speaker 11 (20:05):
He's using these.

Speaker 10 (20:06):
First date of practice for lineup combinations. But we're talking
Lebron James, and he's one of the OG's on the team.
And I think the other thing is that when you're
looking at Lebron, this is his first game since twenty twelve.
I mean, he missed twenty sixteen because of just those
deep final runs against Golden State and wanting to recharge.
Twenty twenty one missed. You know, he won a championship

(20:29):
in the bubble in the following year was very very taxing.
So I think he's ready to get a move in
because he hasn't played in the game since twenty twelve.
So yeah, I nothing's guaranteed, but I would be very
very very very surprised. I could probably just few it
through a few more barriers that he comes up that well.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
Speaking of Lebron, he just signed another two year contract
max contract with the Lakers and he is now going
to be playing with his son.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
How what do you think think.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Is kind of like the realistic way this is going
to go. When is Bronni going to play? Is he
going to play? Is he going to start at any point?
My personal theory is like he's going to maybe he
starts early in the season, but when it comes down
to like, all right, no, we need to make sure
that we're making the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Lebron's gonna kick him back to the bench, like right.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Like they'll have their moment and then I'll be like,
all right, that was cool. Now get to the bench
kid and develop. How do you how do you see
this going?

Speaker 10 (21:29):
Well, technically, Bronni is playing today right Ali Classic in
San Francisco. To your broader question, I don't think he's
going to start. I mean, he's a second round pick,
right he is going to play, it would be you know,
very limited minutes during blowouts, you know, whether it's wins
or losses. I think to your point, they will have

(21:51):
that early storyline already done, certainly in preseason, but maybe
earlier in the regular season as far as staggering some
minutes with Lebron and Browny. But I don't think they
would thrust him into the starting lineup because he's a
fifty fifth to Key's not. He's not a two way player,
so there is going to be some limitations on how

(22:11):
much time he can be in the G League. But
I think most of the time will be there and
then just practicing around the team. So I think game
to game. He's going to have a lot of healthy scratches.
I don't think he's going to be part of any
you know, seven, eight, nine, even ten man rotation, but
there will be those moments throughout the season where he'll
get some spot minutes and then yeah, even with his

(22:34):
dad on the floor.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Okay, let's talk about someone who did not choose to
go to the Lakers. Because Klay Thompson is heading to
the MAVs on a three year deal and he chose
the MAVs over the Lakers. And I know you talk
to Klay Thompson's dad, who tried to persuade Clay to
go to the Lakers. What was his reaction when he
found out his son chose Dallas Orelay.

Speaker 10 (22:58):
Well, it's interesting because he he did an interview with
serious extem earlier in the day and he sounded very disappointed,
like see the father that you know, felt like his
son made a mistake kind of tone. When I connected
with him later in the evening, he was reaching the
stage of fatherhood of courting his son because that's what

(23:19):
he wants to do.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
So he was kind of going through all the fields
through the different.

Speaker 10 (23:24):
Interviews the day, so he kept saying, as long as
he's happy, I'm good with it. But to your point,
the kitchen think as far as sales pitchers, I mean,
he probably for the million of time, brought up his
time with the Showtime Lakers and what it meant to
play with his idle Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and then he
segued into, hey, Kobe Bryant was your rd, Like, what

(23:46):
would it be like to obviously he can't be playing
with Kobe, Yeah, but just playing for the same franchise
and wearing his jersey.

Speaker 6 (23:54):
He also, yeah, he just.

Speaker 10 (23:57):
That identity and embodying what he represent And then he
also broke it down next tos and Oh was like
Lebron James, Anthony Davis really talented. They'll draw a lot
of attention. He can get some easier shots, and he'll
get his game going again. And then the last thing,
he mentioned all the different you know ports and Harbor's
in LA and said he got so many places to

(24:17):
park and ride your boat. None of it worked because
at the end of the day, Clay chose what was
best for him from a basketball standpoint, and you can't
argue with that. Mean, the MAVs just got to the
Finals they got with not just Kyrie Irving, they got
a good supporting cast, and the Lakers they lost in
five games in the first round, and there's a lot
of questions what they'll be moving forward. So it's it's

(24:39):
been quite eventful for his decisions.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
Do you think that there was an aspect here where
I mean, Clay has also been historically underappreciated throughout his career,
and do you think that there was somewhat of an
overshadowing because he was on a team with Steph Curry
and then the thought of going to the Lakers and
being overshadowed by.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Lebron and a D. Yeah, I mean I think that
he think.

Speaker 5 (25:04):
Like he can play on the level of Luca and
be on that same star level, but like he was
going to continue to be overshadowed if he went the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
Do you think that played a part in his decision?

Speaker 3 (25:13):
With all the rings.

Speaker 10 (25:16):
These are valid factors, but knowing how Clay is, I
don't think it was so. In other words, I don't
think Steph Curry has anything to do with his departure.
I mean, he loves playing with him, and you know,
Clay would always get the nickname prior to how things
unfold of this season with his contract negotiations low maintenance
and I think the contract is one thing because you know,

(25:38):
it's money, and he feel felt he was worth, you know,
a certain amount of value. I think, you know, coming
off the bench is a different thing.

Speaker 6 (25:45):
But as it.

Speaker 10 (25:45):
Pertains to Oh, I don't want to be overshadowed by
Steph or Lebron or Ad. I don't think any of
those three players spectored in. I think the broader point though,
is that Dallas is a better basketball So in other words,
if the Lakers, you know, Lebron and Idi are there
and they had a better supporting cast. And also the

(26:07):
other thing, if the Lakers had assets that the Warriors
wanted to do a sign and trade, so if he
could make more money, I think he would have chosen
the Lakers. But the Mavericks, of all the different things,
they had those two things to their advantage, and I
think that really tilted the scale for him.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
And honestly, he probably thinks he has a better chance
of winning. Yeah, I like that with the Lakers.

Speaker 10 (26:28):
So the ultimate way the stick into the world.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
That's crazy. Mark, Thank you so much for joining us.
Have so much fun out in Vegas with USA Basketball.
Keep us updated. We'll be checking in on all your stuff.
Love the inside information.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 10 (26:43):
Thanks for ssuing it, squeezing me in on your show.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
We love it. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
I do.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Now let's checking with Brian Bentley and see what's trending.

Speaker 7 (26:52):
Carmen and Alex. We are moments away from seeing Brownie
James on the court. Seconds ago on television. He was
wearing his beat's headphones. He's out there warming up, ready
to go our first again. Let it go. Yeah, he's
ready to show off his abilities here as the Lakers
debut for one Brownie James is about to take place,
and it's part of the California Classic in San Francisco,

(27:15):
his first summer league. How many minutes is he going
to get? What sort of output are we going to
see from him? A lot of those questions are about
to be heard in this game, at least, as the Lakers,
their summer league team, will take on the Sacramento Kings
in a few moments. Speaking of also what's going on
in basketball, Indiana Fever guard Caitlyn Clark the first triple
double by rookie in WNBA history. Alex le Clemen. I

(27:38):
know you probably saw that coming just a matter of time.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
I guess the best team in the league too. She
took them to the victory over the best team in
the league.

Speaker 7 (27:46):
Yeah, so take that all those Carmen or Kitlyn Clark caters.
That's for sure. Nineteen points, thirteen assists, twelve rebounds that
the Fever come away with an eighty three to seventy
eight win. As Carmen mentioned against the Liberty. Also, we're
watching soccer play out in front of us and at
the European Championships right now, Netherlands has scored two unanswered goals.

(28:09):
It is in the seventy eighth minute a game that
you can watch right now on Fox Television, two to
one Netherlands against Turkey, seventy eighth minute. Both of those
goals by Netherlands north of the seventieth minute, so they've
scored two goals in about a seven minute period. Earlier,
it was England advancing to the semifinals with their penalty kicks,

(28:30):
and I know that probably brings back memories, Brian, don't.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Bring the anxiety back, man.

Speaker 7 (28:36):
I know, I know you mentioned it earlier in the show,
but it was a penalty kick the win five to
three for England against Switzerland after it was one to
one through extra time and after regulations, so semifinals for
England at Wimbledon right now Novak Djokovic seconds ago he
is on to the fourth round after his win against

(28:57):
the Australian and Alexi Popper and knee a fourth set
and a tie break set to take it, so he
goes to the fourth round. Earlier, the top seed, Egas
Fiatech goes down in the third round in three sets
to Yulia Putsinseva and on a more serious in Soborgno
Vikings rookie defensive back Kyrie Jackson along with two others

(29:18):
in a vehicle were killed in a three car crash
early this morning, and this happened in Maryland. Police there
indicate that a separate automobile happened to be speeding trying
to change lanes in the process with this happening on
a highway, hit and knocked the car occupied by Jackson
and those two others off the road and into the trees,
and law enforcement saying that alcohol certainly played a role

(29:42):
in this tragedy. As we get it back to Carmen
and Alex one to mention here is that we do
have some Major League Baseball games going on, and one
final with the Yankees winning fourteen to four against the
Red Sox. With that, let's get it back over to
Alex Curry and Carmen Vitally as that summer league game

(30:03):
is un and we're looking forward. I don't think Lebron's
son's starting.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
See what number is he nine? The names are on
the bottom of the jersey. We hadn't had a close
up yet, but I'm like, I'm pretty sure Brownie is
like he's there. Yeah, he's on the James Junior.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
There he is.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
That's so cool. Thank you, Brian. You're listening to Fox
Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitally. We
are broadcasting live from the tark dot Com studios in
Los Angeles. Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with
carme and me and Carmie. I know you work with
the Vikings. Yeah, this is a This was a tough
day for the franchise.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
It was incredible to wake up to and see, you know,
a rest and peace post to their rookie, their fourth
round pick that whose career had barely started. Kyrie Jackson.
He was a transfer to Oregon from Bama. Played with
Lyons first round pick Terry and Arnold there starting safety
as well Brian Branch, both expressing their condolences.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
On social media.

Speaker 5 (31:03):
And the thing that just is so incredibly heartbreaking is
something like this is so easily avoidable if you do
not get behind the wheel. Yeah drunk, And that is
that's what this all comes down to. It's the most
selfish thing you can possibly do. There are things like
uber and Lift and even good old fashioned cabs still exist,
and it's just there's absolutely no excuse for something like

(31:23):
this because you can take the lives, and you can
take away opportunities, and you can take away someone's son, brother,
all of that kind of stuff. I mean, apart from
his unfulfilled potential, Kyie Jackson's unfilled potential on the field,
this was a life just taken completely too short, too sudden,
and for no good reason. So I just let this
again serve as a warning, do not get behind the

(31:44):
wheel if you have had something to drink.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah, don't do it.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Oh, Okay, real quick pivot here before we go to break.
This week, we're talking about Joey b Off the top
of the show is his fashion fashion sound. But we
also heard Burrough mentioned he's not a fan of top
five lists.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Did you see this?

Speaker 1 (32:06):
He said he feels like it takes away from certain
people's accomplishments. He said, the best guy on Sunday may
not be the best the next Sunday, And with all
the ups and downs in the league, it doesn't serve
anybody to make those lists, which I'm gonna say it's
also easy to say when you are one of the
top five guys. I feel like that's a very much
like I am the best, so I don't need to
talk about who the best is.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
It is so subjective, but also it is it's always just.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Be any cooler. This man always says like the right things.
That's so cool.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
He's so just like chill about everything. He goes and
does his stuff in silence and then pops up like
we were talking about Paris Fashion Week in a backless suit,
just looking.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
All kind and he was in con Yeah he was
in conn Yeah, he was doing like all the stuff
in France. Popped over to Paris, did the fashion show,
made his way to like Ruben's infamous white party at
it by the way, I have met him, and he
is he is a cool guy. He throws all the

(33:08):
player parties at all the events, and so he did
the All Star Game like MLB party last year he
had just flown in from Summer League. I was like,
you are a machine, sir, an actual machine.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
Yes, machine of fun.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
No, yes, but I mean yeah, Joey is like a
whole other level of stardom. And like he started as
you know, the national champion LSU Tigers. There's that infamous
photo of Joe Burrow first cigar, with the cigar cigar.
That's where it all began. It all began with the cigar,
or the or the jersey where he spelled his last
name with the eaux, which is a very New Orleans

(33:42):
way or very lousy in a way to spell your
name Burrow. Uh huh. Just all levels of cool. Entirely
too cool for this league. But I really appreciate him
saying all of this because it's it is true, like
everything is so subjective.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
And it's wonderful for.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
Us because it's content and to be able to like
engage with these top five lists and everybody has their
own and stuff like that. But I think when it
comes down to it, It's just about respect for players,
uh huh. And they all respect each other, so why
why put them in a ranking? Because hey, I respect you,
you respect me as an opponent. I think you're a
great player. Let's leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Yeah, I think obviously Patrick Mahomes is on his own level.
He is the current dynasty and in the league.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Yeah, I mean he has the hardware to.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
Prey and then there's yeah, then there's tears. All right.
When we come back, it is time for the dues
and don'ts in sports. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Ay, Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Corny
with Carmen Vitalon. We are broadcasting live from the Tarak
dot com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your Saturday afternoon. You ever win to car me and me?

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Do you ever want to get me on the dance floor?
Play that song?

Speaker 1 (35:03):
This is your song? Oh yeah, I'm like any this
be considered reggaeton? Yeah, yeah, I mean, any of that
will get me down. I also start the dance parties.
At any party, I get like one or two drinks
in me alex is dancing on the bar.

Speaker 7 (35:19):
I most remember this furious.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
Oh you're so right, You're so right. I'm not Hispanic,
but I think that in a past life I was
definitely all Hispanic music. My hips just start going and
I'm just like, yeah, what is this.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Here we go. I'm in. I love it.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
And now it's time for the dues and don'ts in
sports this week, guys highlighting that and putting a spotlight
on the don't the subject brings me no joy.

Speaker 4 (35:47):
That's insane.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
It's time for the dues and the don'ts in sports.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Okay, my first one's a funny due. Do have fun,
but don't abuse it. So the Guardians minor league team,
the Lake County Captains, added a new row of toilet
seats to their ballpark with the caption why sit on
the toilet and play on your phone when you can

(36:13):
sit on a toilet and watch an entire baseball game.
So they're offering fans the opportunity to enjoy a game
from the comfort of a luxury deluxe, high end toilet
position right behind home plate sponsored by Roto Ruter sponsoring
Colon Health. And it's like a cushion, Like Toby doesn't
open up to be a toilet, but like the top
of it is cushion. You have like a little armrest,

(36:34):
you have magazines in the back.

Speaker 5 (36:36):
It is.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
It is hilarious but also like huh all right, I
mean okay.

Speaker 5 (36:43):
And it brings Yeah, the Colon canson all those wonderful
things are not wonderful things, but you know what I mean, charity.
I honestly wish that I got the chance to work
for a minor league team because the way that anything
goes from your to your event day is too like
you can just both outlanded and like it. People are

(37:05):
like yes, Like you can sit meeting and be like
let's do this and they're like yes, and like.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
The hometown fans are so into Oh, I love it
that you do.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (37:14):
The Savannah Bananas were on ESPN too today, like yesterdays
for the first time ever they were on an ESPN
network and it was so entertaining.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Yeah, they're great, that's amazing.

Speaker 5 (37:25):
Okay, mine is do not disturb because Alex I was
on vacation last week and the way that I did
not pay attention to anything on social media.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
I was on vacation.

Speaker 5 (37:38):
If you guys know me and Alex and I have
talked about this multiple times. I'm terminally online.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
I'm always my mine while we're doing the show, you guys,
and I am looking over at her.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
I'm like, she's reading. She's been listening to me right now.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
I don't know. She might plays.

Speaker 5 (37:51):
I can multitask. I'm one of the best at it.
I am always online. I'm always going down rabbit holes.
I'm on TikTok, i am on Instagram, I'm on Twitter. Yeah,
I totally just did not. I opened Instagram like occasionally
to post or like whatever because there was so many
wonderful things that was in quiet. Yeah, but I did
not partake into strolling.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
I call that selfish posting, where you're like, I just
need a break. I am going to post for myself
and I'm not gonna look at anybody else, and you
post and then you turn it off.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
And that's what I did. Get me, so I completely disassociated.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Well, I got a bunch, then I'm gonna keep going. Okay,
do have a dog on your team. USA Gymnastics has
employed a Golden Retriever therapy dog named Bacon, and his
job is to help calm the athletes and coaches. He
picks up on their stress and then will pull to
them immediately to help. So this four year old little
golden cut.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
He has his own credentials.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
It is at all the meats and practices with USA.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
So how is that not commonplace? Because that's so true?

Speaker 5 (38:52):
Like these guys, dogs are real, Oh my god, and
these these athletes are under so much pressure and so
much stress. The first thing I would want to do
after like getting off the vault and being like, yes,
I want a dog, bade my.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Lap right now?

Speaker 1 (39:06):
I like, I have two dogs, And I tell everybody
these are my therapy dogs.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
They work overtime.

Speaker 1 (39:12):
I literally wake up five to ten minutes before I
need to so I can sit on my couch and
literally hold them in my arms.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
Forget men, they like, they know, Oh they know, they know.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Talk to you the intuitive.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
We don't deserve them.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
No, Okay, I got another one. Okay, do pay it forward.
Two fans found the ring that Jalen Brown lost at
the Celtics Championship parade and gave it back to him,
this diamond ring. Now Brown returned in return, rewarded the
fans of the opportunity. They're going to attend the team's
ring ceremony in the fall. And I got to say

(39:45):
he better like also give them sign jerseys some photos
because that is some epic karma for the fans because
it was like a diamond ring, he's a juice on
it had his nickname on it, like.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
Wild Yeah, oh my gosh, especially because like you could
probably sell that for like.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
A lot, uh huh no.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
But good on them, and good on Jaylan Brown for
being like, you know, I'm gonna then I'm gonna take
care of you for doing that. And it's so easy
to do too, because all Jalen Brown has to do
is tell pre Celtics pr and be like, hey, these
people need to be this this and then.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
They get in some jerseys like get them six seeds,
take photos.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
It'll be a great content thing for Celtics social media.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
It's gonna be It's gonna wins every everybody involved. Okay,
last quick, dude, do support women in sports. Jessica Campbell
became the first full time female coach in NHL. When
the Seattle Crack as an assistant this.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Week, shout out Soupe, shout out.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
We love hockey players.

Speaker 4 (40:43):
We all have those names too.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Yeah, I love it all right. When we come back,
more beautiful chaos in the NBA. You're listening to Fox
Sports Radio. Welcome to our two of Fox Sports Saturday.
I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitale. Thank you for
spending your Saturday afternoon with Army and me, and who
have we had some good summer of soccer games. Today

(41:06):
the Euro quarterfinals, England taken Switzerland and PKS. This morning
Netherlands just beat Turkey. And I'll say it again. I
said it off the top of the show, but please
inject those celebration party vibes into my veins, Like that
is where I want to be.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
That is insane, those celebrations we just watched with Heatherlands.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
I have a sports specific bucket list. Yeah, and now
that like it's always been a dream of mine to
go to a Premier League game, which I got to
I got to do in February, which is amazing. Okay,
check check, But now I'm like, wait a second, no,
I need to go to the euro Euros. I absolutely
not need to go to the Euros and a World Cup,
and that's been on the list.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
I got to cover a World Cup, and I will
say there was nothing cooler experience wise, being on the
field covering Team USA as an embedded reporter, hearing the
USA chance in a sold out arena in France, like
all over France, covered in chills, just like taking in
the moment.

Speaker 4 (42:02):
I was like, oh, American fans, Wow, step your game up.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
That that was probably the most magical US fan experience
I had had. But like, I want to experience these
European watch parties, you know, like, yeah, I don't even
need I want to be at the watch party.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
I just want to be at the watch party.

Speaker 1 (42:22):
We got COPA quarterfinals coming up in just a bit,
Columbia versus Panama or Guy versus Brazil later tonight. Random
thought here though, because we've been watching a lot of
soccer obviously, and a lot of the same commercials are
on repeat they are do you yeah, do you have
any commercials that haunt your dreams? Because I have two
commercials that I either have to change the channel or

(42:45):
mute the TV when they come on because I won't
be able to sleep at night if I hear it
repeat in my head and it's BK, have it your
way this song cars for Kids. Oh I can't do
either of those. Get out of here? Oh yeah, covering
my ears. I'll change you the channel.

Speaker 5 (43:02):
I'm MUTI it.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
I can't do it.

Speaker 5 (43:03):
Cars her Kids like is on the radio like everywhere,
and I've heard of my whole life, whole life, my
whole life. No, honestly, I will say not that one.
But I have like callbacks to certain commercials where like
I will randomly make reference to them and like say
a one liner from that commercial and nobody understands me
because it's just stuck on.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
A loop in my couple that slap, right, there's a
couple of There.

Speaker 5 (43:26):
Was the play sixty NFL commercial with Cam Newton and
a little kid and he's like, so I can grow
up being strong like you, and I can be in
the NFL and I can become your long favorite player.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
He's like.

Speaker 5 (43:36):
And then at the end of the commercial, Cam's like what,
And then this little kid is just like circling his arm.
He's like, it's fine, I'm just warming up my arm.
And so like every time I do like the arm stretch.
That's what I think of.

Speaker 1 (43:46):
Okay, so that's a cute. One was like the ones
that hot my brains. I'm like, no, thank you. And
as we were doing this, I saw one of them
just pop up on Fox. Because we have Euros on
the TV in front of us. AnyWho that was side,
we are broadcasting live for them studios tyrek dot com.
We'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers

(44:08):
tyreq dot com the way tired buying should be Now.
In about thirty minutes, we have the host of NFL
on Fox, Dave Hellman, joining the show to break down
the off season, the madness of the deck, bootgate some
soccer because he is just obsessed.

Speaker 4 (44:22):
He's been beside himself all week.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Yeahs loss, so yeah, I think everyone has. We're going
to dive into that in about thirty minutes. But let's
get back to some NBA free agency because we got
some beautiful chaos this week. Superstars moving on, dynasties coming
to an end, Max contracts sign We're going to get
the first father son duo in the NBA. I don't

(44:45):
know if you heard off the Brian Finley's report off
the top of the show, But Brownie James is playing
right now in his first Summer League game and apparently
hasn't bad.

Speaker 3 (44:55):
Yeah, he hasn't had poster moments. He's had like a couple.

Speaker 5 (45:00):
I mean, being not to the ground on a a
couple of routines screens is not great.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
No, but you have to imagine, like everybody's gonna know,
everybody's gunning for him.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Everybody's gunning for him.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
You got here because of your dad, Like that's like
he is going to like not to the extent of
Caitlyn Clark, but he's gonna have he's gonna have rookies
and vets going after him to be like, do you
deserve to be here? Do you deserve to get all day?

Speaker 4 (45:27):
I'm sure he's ready for it.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
The California Classic is happening right now with a Brownie
James making his Lakers Summer League debut. But let's start
with the biggest move, the biggest news move this week,
and that was Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors and choosing
the MAVs over the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
Now, there's a lot to unpack here.

Speaker 1 (45:49):
Starting with first, I think we could say the Warriors
dynasty is coming to an end, like the Splash Brothers
Gone Baby three.

Speaker 5 (45:59):
Yeah, that had to have been kind of the foregone
conclusion after they lost the plan, Like it was just
you just felt it, well yeah right there, and then
that like this was this was not gonna last. There
were going to be departures.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:11):
The also was like, yeah, the writing was on the
writing was on the wall. And honestly, the Warriors really
couldn't afford to pay the amount that they were paying
for a team that isn't winning.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
No, and after thirteen seasons, like you got four NBA titles,
and he was reportedly he said miserable in his final
season with everything from his declining role to how the
contract negotiations went because he wasn't getting the big deals
but everyone else was. He felt disrespected after the team
didn't offer him that contract extension after their twenty twenty

(46:42):
two title run. But I like, I understand both sides,
Clay side, he gave so much to this team everything,
four titles, battling back from two major injuries, two injuries,
this two full seasons back to back with his ACL
and his torn achilles. But then at the end of
the day, on the Warriors side, this is a business.

Speaker 4 (47:00):
Yeah, and that those injuries work against him.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Too, and he wasn't playing up to the Clay numbers
of the past before both of those injuries, and they
weren't willing to give him a thanks for what you
did for us contract, like we saw obviously Lakers did
that with Kobe.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
But like that's something.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
That Lakers take care of their people, as we're seeing
right now with Lebron, James and Frani and everybody. That's
just what they do. That's what they do. But Golden
State did say they're gonna retire they can't wait to
retire his number eleven jersey. They release a statement saying
they look forward to the day that they can retire.
Do not retire a jersey until they're out of the league.
Is that is that how it works? I yeah, I

(47:38):
think I feel like that was otherwise it would have
just don't think.

Speaker 5 (47:41):
I don't think it's a hard fast rule, hard nutral
but I think that that's kind of how everything is done.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
Okay, But I mean, he's gonna get a statue like
he helped build that dynasty.

Speaker 5 (47:51):
Yeah, but for as low maintenance as we talked about
he is, Yeah, for him to you know, feel disrespected,
to not be happy, clearly he needed change of senior,
which we saw after they lost that plan game, and
he I don't know if you recall he the arena.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
Well, he also wiped his social media of all Warriors,
he did that.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
But he even before that, he left the arena without
taking a shower, without changing out of his uniform.

Speaker 4 (48:15):
He just got up and dipped.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
He was done.

Speaker 5 (48:17):
He was like, I mean, I think and I think
the first clue right, and I think everybody thought everybody
was overreacting about that, but clearly that wasn't the case.
And it's it's it's a hard thing when an organization
which I mean, he's a homegrown guy, he's only ever
known the Warriors, and to part with a guy like that,
rather than to continue to build your team around him,

(48:39):
which I think was an option that the Warriors had.
It was like, if you wanted to end up giving
him that maxial and all of that kind of stuff,
which we clearly knew that that probably wasn't the case
after they didn't give him.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
The extension earlier before the season.

Speaker 5 (48:53):
But I mean, if I'm Klay Thompson and I've come
up in this organization and I've won all these champage
and done all this for this team, obviously, that's my
expectations that they continue to build around me.

Speaker 1 (49:05):
Yeah, and you know what, Clay knew it was the
end of the road all last year. He actually asked
Steph Curry not to use his organizational poll to try
to keep him, and he reached out to Draymond Green,
and Draymond talked about this on his podcast where they
were kind of like reminiscing on the good old days.

Speaker 8 (49:25):
And I must say, I don't really know how I
feel about it. Clay told us last week, Uh, I
don't know who all he told me. I know he
talked to me pretty sure. He talked to Steph last
week and he just.

Speaker 12 (49:39):
Kind of was like yeah, man, like you know, just
kind of started talking through the year, it's like been great,
well we've done is so special, Like you know, you
and Steph, my brothers, and the conversation just kind of
starts as small talk and like you kind of just
prepping yourself, like man, get me there, like I know

(50:00):
it's covin, Like you're enjoying the conversation. But yet it's
kind of one of those moments so where like somebody
like building you up before they blow, They just kind
of build you up.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Yeah, So it's gonna be weird to see him in
a different uniform. But let's talk about that different uniform.
Because Clay chose the MAVs over the Lakers, even though
he had a ton of personal connections to the Lakers.
His father was part of Showtime Lakers at won two
titles in eighty seven and eighty eight, and he tried

(50:32):
to persuade Clay to go to La As we talked
to Mark Mendina earlier, who talked to his father, Michael Thompson,
who said he was trying to.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
Use He literally pulled out every trick out of the
hat to.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
Try to get a dad guilt, Like dad guilt.

Speaker 8 (50:48):
You know.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
You said Kobe like is your all time favorite player.
You could represent him, like you could have a chance
to play for his team. We always talked about that
if you weren't all the Warriors, you'd be on the Lakers.
But obviously, like he felt the MAVs were a better
opportunity for him to win. Now didn't want to maybe
go to the Lebron project with JJ being a first
time coach, and I mean Lakers did not get any

(51:12):
big name free agents. No, so you have to believe
players might not believe this is a championship team right now.

Speaker 5 (51:20):
Yeah, I think maybe from the outside, the outside perception
of the Lakers and that, yeah, they're not a championship team.
But I'll tell you what, huh again, you just can't
count out a Lebron. No, and if you look at
the Lakers championship team, their bubble team, Yeah, Lebron averaged
less points per game than he averaged this past season
with a pretty similar supporting cast. Yeah, I mean I

(51:42):
think on the and in fact this past year, five
players on the Lakers had averaged double digits per.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
Game in twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
Yeah, they just wore players they needed like another They
needed another shooter, which I think they'll They could get
the first round pick in Dalton connect He is a aall
around rate shooter which could help the Lakers there. But again,
I said it, I'll say it again. What would motivate
the greatest player to want to win? Yes, it's more

(52:11):
than winning for himself, it's wanting to win with his
son well and then create that history.

Speaker 5 (52:15):
That's what I was getting towards was like, Lebron has
been able to will this team with a very similar cast.

Speaker 4 (52:20):
To a championship. Why can't he do it again? Especially
when everything.

Speaker 5 (52:24):
Rides on Lebron right now, everything because of the fact
that he's the one that installed JJ Reddick. Like, let's
not let's be crystal clear about this. Yes, Lebron had
everything to do with that decision. So now Lebron is
this player coach working in tandem with your first time
head coach. This is all on Lebron's shoulders and that's
the way he wants it.

Speaker 1 (52:41):
Yeah, So now you just got to like, there's all
the motivating the result.

Speaker 5 (52:46):
But I think that is very internalized with the Lakers.
I can't speak to the rest of the league clearly,
who doesn't isn't in that locker room, doesn't you know,
necessarily have all those conversations with Lebron. I completely unders
how why Clay Thompson decided to take his chances with
the Mavericks instead, who got to the finals, who were
a couple of games away from winning.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
Like Luca's one, like Tom player player in the league,
right now.

Speaker 5 (53:10):
Right one of the top players still ascending. And if
you can get the Kyrie Irving you had in the
postseason for the you know, for again.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
He could be their missing piece to yes take down
Boston because they're like.

Speaker 5 (53:23):
You think about Clay, Kyrie and Luca. I mean, that's
a great, great triple threat.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
Yeah, well, if you can get Clay back to just
anything a little better. The last few seasons.

Speaker 5 (53:35):
Start with health first of all with Lay Thompson. But
then yeah, I mean I think and I think a
change of scenery will do that.

Speaker 1 (53:41):
It does, it does with a lot of people. Now
another change of scenery. Another big move this week, Chris
Paul agreed to a one year deal with the Spurs
after being waived by the Warriors at the start of
free agency. And he is one of the most established
veterans in the league going into his twentieth season. And
I love this move because I think it is so
important for these young superstars to have a veteran mentor

(54:05):
we've seen it in the past. So Wenby is now
getting a father figure, great veteran who like Draymond Green
was even again in the same podcast he went talking
about like obviously his teammates that are no longer on
his team anymore. He goes, I mean, I'm a vet too.
I thought like I was learning from Chris Paul. I
wanted to listen to everything he was saying. We even
heard Dwayne Wade talk about this, how Shack did this

(54:26):
for him in Miami when he arrived in his second year, saying,
he walked me through how to be myself and how
to be a superstar. And they kind of showed this
and talked about this in Dwayne Wade's documentary.

Speaker 3 (54:40):
But it is night and day.

Speaker 1 (54:42):
Just imagine having just having that kind of support and
someone that you can ask these questions to when you
are a rising superstar and you're having a veteran superstar
coming into a place.

Speaker 5 (54:52):
I mean, Chris Paul belongs to the Lebron James era.
A veterans. Yes, that's the thing, Like there are veterans, yeah,
like ad then there are veterans, yeah, And Chris Paul
is a veteran. So he absolutely should be installed in
some of these teams if he wants to keep playing.
He's not going to be the Chris Paul that we're
used to from ten years ago. No, no, no, no, but
he's there to be that guiding presence and again a mentor,

(55:16):
player coach type guy on the bench, really helping to
develop and get the most out of your young superstars.

Speaker 4 (55:22):
Yeah, and I love that.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
I love that too. Now the other big move Paul
George to Philly. We got a new It starts at
the Wall. Philly agreed to a four year deals which
creates the new Big Three of Paul George, Joel Embiid
and Tyrese MAXI but I mean the seventy six ers
have had other.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
Big names to try to make this work.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
It's just a rotation.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
Simmons, Big Three, Chaser Harden, Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 3 (55:48):
I mean, I'm a glass half full kind of a person.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
So you hope someone as great as Joel and b
can finally figure out that missing piece and get to.

Speaker 3 (55:56):
The Eastern Conference finals.

Speaker 1 (55:58):
He's only made it to the Semis, and Paul George
has gotten to the conference finals in both the East
and the West with the Pacers and Clippers.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
So I mean, is he going to be that missing
piece with all these rotating this rotating cast of big threes.

Speaker 4 (56:10):
The law of averages says, one of these has you.

Speaker 3 (56:12):
Can hope so, but I mean we're kind of like we.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Haven't really seen a Big three as of late, Click
and work.

Speaker 3 (56:19):
No, it's true, but again I'm in the declining.

Speaker 5 (56:22):
They're trying to make it happen. They're throwing darts against
the wall. Paul George is their latest attempt, and we're
going to see if.

Speaker 1 (56:26):
It will well. See, We're gonna take a quick break here,
but when we come back, Redemption in the w you're

Speaker 3 (57:14):
Podcasts, or Alex Underscore, Curry or car meb. There you go.

Speaker 4 (57:18):
It works out, all.

Speaker 1 (57:19):
Right, you guys. Once again, Caitlyn Clark, it's taken over today.

Speaker 3 (57:24):
It was the first triple double ever by a rookie.

Speaker 1 (57:27):
Not surprised, and.

Speaker 5 (57:28):
She again she did it against the best team in
the league, the New York Liberty. This is the best
team in the league and the Fever, who last year
were one of the worst teams in the league the.

Speaker 1 (57:37):
Last two years.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
That's why they got the first overall pick.

Speaker 5 (57:40):
The improvement by the Fever, led by Caitlyn Clark is
nothing short of amazing and she deserves all of her
flowers for that and this is just the latest example
of it.

Speaker 4 (57:48):
So she had the.

Speaker 5 (57:49):
First triple double in WNBA history as a rookie against
the best team in the league. It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (57:55):
Yep, let's add to this buzz because this week it
was all all about the All Star Game. The w
NBA All Star Team was announced and Kaitlyn Clark and
Angel Reese are the moment they are the only like
only first time All Stars in the group. But the
fan voting, you guys, this is what we need to

(58:16):
talk about. Yeah, for this year's game skyrocketed like this,
this jump and fan voting, you guys, says it all.
It's insane. Kitlyn Clark finished with the most votes ever,
over seven hundred thousand votes. Last year's leading vote getter

(58:37):
less than ninety six thousand.

Speaker 4 (58:39):
It's wild.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
It jumped from ninety six thousand to seven hundred thousand.

Speaker 5 (58:43):
In the WNBA. Fan voting accounts for fifty percent of
someone's score to make the.

Speaker 4 (58:48):
All Star team.

Speaker 5 (58:49):
So like, it's important, more important than pretty much any
of the major leagues as far as like the weight
that fan voting is given. So the fact that there
was this much more part participation and the fact that
Caitlyn Clark bested the last total blew it out of
the water over seven times more.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
Also, her teammate, Her teammate got the second most votes
with six hundred and eighteen thousand.

Speaker 3 (59:16):
Yes, so yeah, and even the Kaitlyn Clark effect.

Speaker 4 (59:21):
Angel Reese had three hundred and eighteen thousand vos.

Speaker 5 (59:24):
Oh yeah, it's just it's a it's asia Wilson.

Speaker 3 (59:27):
We want to stewart Angel Reese.

Speaker 4 (59:29):
Like momentum is continuing and we.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
Read it is like these rookies have lived up to
all of the hype. And this is another thing that's
going to make this All Star Game interesting. Is Caitlin
Clark playing with Angel Reese for the first time ever
and they will be playing against the US Women's Olympic team.

Speaker 5 (59:50):
Yeah no, and this has happened before, so this is
like back in ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. Team WNBA
actually defeated Team USA behind twenty six points from the
Dallas Wings guard at Rique Goombwallee, who was left off
the Olympic roster. And I said it at the time
when we were talking about if Kaitlyn Clark was a snub,
I was like, you know who this biggest snub was.

(01:00:10):
It was a Riguae Goombawally. And I think that we're
gonna see something like that. But to your point, Angel
Rees and Caitlyn Clark playing on the same roster, here's
the thing about their rivalry though it's always been driven
by the fact that they are opponents, yes.

Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
But they have a healthy respect for each other.

Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
Well, it's gonna be so I don't think there's gonna.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
Be any friction or anything.

Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
They're on the same team, they've got the same goal,
They're going to work together. I can't wait to see
them join forces in fact, because they do have such
a respect for each other's and they're allowed to not
like each other on the court with their opponents. That's
what these games are all about.

Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
Like, it is going to be absolutely insane.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Also interesting to see if, like Caitlin Clark goes off
like showing and proving that like she got snubbed, because
even after she was aware, she is so aware of
everything going in the media. I'm just going to use
sess motivation for the next Olympic team. That's how I'm
going to get there. She's also aware of the attention
and the hype that her and Angel Reese are getting

(01:01:10):
for the All Star Games opposed to the Olympic team
and all of the other All Stars, and she said, obviously,
this is something that's really hard to accomplish, so the
best we can celebrate all of them will be great.
I'm just gonna obviously soak it in and the experience,
because you never know if you're gonna be able to
get back there and it's going to be fun for
all of us for sure. But she keeps trying to deflect,

(01:01:32):
and it's like, Caitlyn, you're the chosen one. It's all
about you and the moment. You can like respect everyone
else's feelings, but girl, like live it up, glow up.
Angel Reese is like getting like headfirst into this, and
I think it's time for Kaitlyn Clark to like embody like, yes, okay,
this is me with the confidence.

Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
I mean, I guess.

Speaker 5 (01:01:52):
But at the same time, Kaitlyn Clark, that's never been her,
even her being the most famous women's college basketball player
at Iowa for multiple years running.

Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
She never she always it's always been deflecting.

Speaker 5 (01:02:05):
She's always that's who she is as a person. And
wait for the moment of the tumble.

Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
But also like, girl, you are the reason for so
much incredible change for women's basketball right now, have a
moment and just like be there and not have to
talk about any I do.

Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
I do appreciate that her realizing like she brought a
lot of attention there, but it's because it was already
a great product that this attention is now staying.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
Also, let's go Caitlyn Clark. Okay, now let's check in
with Brian Fenley and see what's trending.

Speaker 7 (01:02:33):
Yes, Alex and Carmen, we are on Bronnie James watch yeah,
and this is his first Summer league game in the
NBA is playing out right now?

Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Are they doing?

Speaker 4 (01:02:43):
Let's just say there.

Speaker 7 (01:02:44):
Are a lot of critics out there on social media.
If I were Brownie, if I was brought off social media,
stay off social media right now. People are lusting over
his struggles out there, which look, it's his first first half.
I can't wait Summer League basketball.

Speaker 5 (01:03:00):
I can't wait for like the song lyric whatever, like
people praying on my downfalling. Let's see yeh like you know,
just like the cryptic tweets and stuff that are gonna come.

Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
I can't wait.

Speaker 7 (01:03:08):
It's all coming. But right now, if you look at
his numbers, he is one of six from the floor.
His one bucket was a layup and he got it
on a dribble handoff at the top of the key
and he took it right to the rim. He's gotten
crossed up a few times, and there are some videos
out there about that. That's not the greatest thing he
wants out there, and then there was this time he

(01:03:28):
ran into a screen and he fell right to the ground.

Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
That's not great, yikes, so say on social media.

Speaker 7 (01:03:33):
Yes, it's a welcome to the NBA moment moment for him.
And the score of this this game is obviously meaningless.
But as of right now that the Kings are in
front at the half forty seven to forty one. You
were talking about Caitlin Clark and what she did first
double double scuty triple double by a rookie in WNBA history,

(01:03:57):
nineteen points, thirteen assists and twelve rebounds. And the Fever
in car when you mentioned this really tough team, the
Fever had to come back and beat It was the
Liberty eighty three to seventy eight. Exactly. The Liberty the
best team in the league. The Hornets are very far
from that, but according to the Athletic Miles Bridges gets

(01:04:18):
three years and seventy five million dollars to stay with
that team. We're also hearing, according to ESPN, that New
York Nick's assistant Johnny Bryant has agreed to terms to
become the associate head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers. There's
also news about DeMar DeRozan in Sacramento this weekend listening
to those recruiting pitches from the Kings. We'll see how

(01:04:41):
that all matriculates. Also, the Washington Wizards say no thanks
to an eleven million dollar option on guard Landry Shammitt
in his contract. In regards to a little bit more
somber news, Vikings rookie defensive back Kyrie Jackson, along with
two others in a vehicle were killed in the three
recar crashed today. This happened this morning in Maryland, where

(01:05:03):
policed there in an early report say that a separate
automobile that happened to be speeding was trying to change
lanes on the highway and ended up in the process
hitting and knocking the car occupied by Jackson and two
others off the road and into tree stumps. And law
enforcement feels like there is reason to believe that alcohol

(01:05:25):
played a part in this European Championship. England coming up
with the win against Switzerland so and that was in
penalty kicks, England advancing to the semifinals, and Netherlands over
Turkey that is a final as well. And at Wimbledon
Center Court just wrapped up Novak Djokovic into the fourth

(01:05:45):
round after a four set win against Alexei Popperin Also
the top seeded Egos Fiatec goes down in the third
round in three sets to Yulia Putinshevo. But as they
get it back to Karma Vitally and Alex Curry, people
need to just pump the brakes a little bit with
the Browny James stuff like, let's.

Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
I haven't been on social yet, I have been duel.
I don't go on social like during shows unless there's
like breaking news and like I kind of see that happening,
but like, stay out of the comments, stay out of
the mansions. Carl is the opposite. I'm like this girl
never stops scrolling.

Speaker 7 (01:06:24):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (01:06:24):
I don't understand why it's so bad.

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
My mental health would be so like shout the window
if I did this, I like I have now it's
so shot shot.

Speaker 7 (01:06:36):
And I don't want to give people the satisfaction of
being blocked.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
But mute, I.

Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
I mean, I don't want to get some satisfaction either.
I do not block people. I meet people that.

Speaker 5 (01:06:45):
I love muting speaking of people, though that is also
terminally online.

Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
We have a guest.

Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Okay, yeah, thank you, Brian.

Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
Brian, you're listening to Fox Sports Saturday and Alex Career.

Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Here with Carbon Vitali.

Speaker 1 (01:06:54):
We are broadcasting live from the Tarak dot Com studios
in Los Angeles, and it's time for our next guess.
He's the host of NFL and Fox Podcast, a regular
on Speak on FS one, and a best friend of
the show. Give it up for Dave Helmet.

Speaker 6 (01:07:10):
Guys, if we're talking about being terminate online, me the same.

Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
I will. I will say that about Dave. He absolutely
put gosh.

Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
The two of you. Okay, then fine, Let's start with
a viral photo this week of Dak Prescott in a
walking boot. Now, he downplayed it, saying it was just
part of his regular maintenance following his twenty twenty ankle injury.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
But Dave, you were with the Cowboys for over a decade.

Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Should fans have any concern about Dak heading into training camp?

Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Also besides the contract situation.

Speaker 13 (01:07:41):
Well, the contract for sure. As far as the injury,
I really don't think so. And I will say when
stuff like this is concerned, you should always leave room
for skepticism because teams are going to downplay and they
you know, especially in.

Speaker 6 (01:07:55):
The off season. When they don't have to meet with
the media. You're not going to voluntarily create big stories
with injuries. But is something this is something we've seen
from Dak in previous years. Were Yeah, I mean he
had the horrible leg injury in twenty twenty. He had
a calf injury a couple of year or two after that,

(01:08:17):
So I mean, you know, the guys in his thirties. Now,
this is I think it's smart maintenance on his part
to be taken care of it, even if he does
feel a slight injury. But as far as being legitimately
worried about it, I'm not. I mean, the Cowboys are
still three weeks away from getting to training camp, and
as we all know, training camp goes on forever. I mean,
teams report to camp six weeks before the start of

(01:08:40):
the regular season, so you're still talking probably eight nine
weeks before the Cowboys play a regular season game. No,
I don't really think this is a big deal.

Speaker 5 (01:08:50):
Yeah, And also I think you brought this up on Twitter, Dave.
Like NFL players getting mildly injured is treated completely differently
than you or I getting insured.

Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
You are going to be in a walking boot.

Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
At the slightest, the very slightest hint of an injury.

Speaker 6 (01:09:07):
Rather, can you imagine? No, if you had if you
had access to like state of the art medical facilities,
then you didn't have to worry about your premium or
your insurance plan to get an MRI or a walking boot,
Like wouldn't you do that too? I every every time
I woke up with a stiff back, I would be like,
you know.

Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
What, tell me what's that?

Speaker 5 (01:09:26):
So I tore my a cl when I was working
for the Buccaneers in a flag football game and I
went to our team trainer and I expecting.

Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
Like, oh, maybe he could get me into the MRI
like earlier.

Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
Yeah, No, I still had to wait a week for
my MRI, whereas these guys MRI is like in game
and I had a tourney.

Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Yep, yeah, yeah I would.

Speaker 6 (01:09:44):
I would be living in a walking boot if I
had an issue if I was a football player. So
I mean it's something to keep an eye on. But yeah,
I think football players who who maybe don't have to
worry about the bill as much as we do, I
think they handle things a little bit differently. And no,
I'm not overly concerned that.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Okay, Well, Cam Newton also made headlines talking about the
Cowboys this week, saying they are no longer America's team,
It's the Chiefs. Now, do you think it's fair to
take that title from Dallas due to the lack of
playoff success recently.

Speaker 6 (01:10:15):
Look, here's the thing, and I like, I hate to
burst everybody's bubble because look, I didn't grow up a
Cowboy fan. I used to resent the Cowboys as well
as all these so many other people did. But the
title of America's team has nothing to do with how
successful you are or how many championships you win. And

(01:10:35):
the fact that the Cowboys are approaching thirty years without
a Super Bowl appearance and they're still as popular as
they are is evidence that Cam Newton is wrong and
everybody else that wants to argue with it is wrong,
because look, guys, I work in that office, and I
have the data that shows how the Cowboys lack every

(01:10:55):
other team in the NFL in terms of page views,
in terms of fan interest, in terms of the amount
of traffic they're driving, the amount of ad revenues that
they're capable of. It's ironic because they don't win enough,
But it does not seem to matter. The Patriots didn't
take the title from them, and think about that. Think
about how much the New England Patriots won from two

(01:11:18):
thousand and one to twenty eighteen.

Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
And as soon as Tom Brady leck, they're just another team.

Speaker 5 (01:11:26):
The worst part is I can corroborate all of this
that Davi is saying because I also worked for a
team and saw all those numbers, because I worked with
the marketing department.

Speaker 4 (01:11:33):
It is sickening.

Speaker 5 (01:11:35):
Every single piece of content on the Dallas Cowboys dot
com website does so many numbers.

Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
Well even more so than the dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
Like we all work on FS one and they tell us,
segment by segment how everything rates for every daily.

Speaker 5 (01:11:49):
And it's open show. It's dominated by the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
Segments will double or triple any other content on FS one.

Speaker 4 (01:11:57):
It's sickening, trust me, David, and I can see what.

Speaker 6 (01:12:01):
I will say is this, And I've been thinking about
this for a long time. Surely there has to be
a breaking point, like, surely, surely a day will come.
Think about the Cowboys got popular in the seventies and
then that generation raised their kids to be fans, and
that generation got to experience the nineties. But now we're

(01:12:22):
sitting here talking about people in their twenties, thirties, approaching
forties who have no memory of the Cowboys that's ever
been good?

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
Yep, yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:12:32):
And then so I think we are going to get
to a point where it starts to slip unless they
can finally get over the hump. But I still think
we are a good bit away from that.

Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
All right, this is too much cowboys talk, Dave.

Speaker 5 (01:12:45):
I want to get to something that is near and
dear to your heart, even though you don't cover it,
but you are absolutely obsessed and have been obsessed with
all things soccer, European soccer. You've got the Euros going
on the KOPA. I want to hear all of the
things about how the USA just exited the COPA and
what you think they should.

Speaker 4 (01:13:05):
Do as far as going forward.

Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
Yeah, are there?

Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
Berhalter's gone.

Speaker 6 (01:13:11):
I mean he should be wet. We have so many
we have so many exciting things we could be talking
about with the Euros, and we got to bring it
back to the USA.

Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
I'm sorry. I want to get your thoughts all week.

Speaker 6 (01:13:24):
Here's my thought. Jesse Marsh, who is an American manager,
just took Canada into the semifinals of the COPA. So
a definitively worse soccer nation, just not as much talent,
not as many quality players as the USA has nowhere
near as good of a soccer history. I know that's

(01:13:44):
not saying a lot, but it's still true.

Speaker 11 (01:13:47):
Uh, he just took them into the semifinals of the
Copa after watching the USA crash out in the group stage.
I thought the US was floppy obviously.

Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
I mean, the main reason they're out is because they
had a ridiculous red card in the second match against Panama.

Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
So you've got to score if you want to win games.

Speaker 6 (01:14:06):
And I'm going to say exactly exactly, you've got to
be able to score goals, I mean, to not be
able to put anything on that. I mean, even obviously
they wound up winning that game, but you know, it's
only score two against the really woeful Bolivia team. Just
kind of indicates how much trouble they had getting the
ball in the net in what was You'll never you'll

(01:14:27):
never have an easier group in a major international tournament
than the USA just had.

Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
And yeah, they've got a lot of work to do
before we host the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
But let's talk about the Euros because we've had.

Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Some incredible quarter final matches a little too many PKS
for my liking. I've like personal experience. If I don't
know if you're listening earlier, but I've I've lost a
national tournament in PKS, like in the final, and it
is like the way it takes over my body, the
anxiety is insane. But who do you have winning the Euros?
Who's your pick and why?

Speaker 6 (01:15:00):
I mean, based on the way these teams have played,
I think you've got to assume Spain is the favorite.
Just I mean, they've they've played so well. You know,
I thought the way they rallied to win against Germany
yesterday was incredible. I mean, I think they're the best
mixture of talent and form. But I mean, eventually, you
would think France is going to get it together. I mean,

(01:15:21):
I know Achillian and Bape is injured, but it's not
an injury that for Vince's ability to run or shoot.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:15:28):
You know that the offense has not been there for
France throughout this whole tournament. But all it takes is
one day, So that semi final is going to be amazing,
and I would I would guess I'm going with whoever
wins the Stain France semifinals winning.

Speaker 14 (01:15:44):
I mean, England and England and Netherlands have both played
really well, but I still think Spain and France have
been the stronger overall teams. But when you look at
it on paper, I mean, this couldn't have gone.

Speaker 6 (01:15:56):
Better for the euro organizers.

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
I mean, you got you got all the big players,
you got all the big numets.

Speaker 6 (01:16:03):
You got four of the like five. You know, the
only team missing probably is Germany in terms.

Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
Of like the post country.

Speaker 6 (01:16:09):
Yeah, so yeah, I mean either way, I think, no
matter how it's all, it's going to be an amazing matchup.
But if I had to pick the winner, I'm thinking
it's it's the winner of the France Fame semi final.

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
Can we all we're gonna we're all gonna go to
a watch party for these because I need some sort
of like European celebration soccer celebration in my vap.

Speaker 6 (01:16:27):
Absolutely, yes, a great European let's find it.

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Let's find it. We're all neighbors, so let's let's go
find it. Dave, thank you so much for joining us.
Love having you on as.

Speaker 6 (01:16:36):
Always, anytime, guys, thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
You all right, We're gonna take one more break and
when we come back, a historic sports love story. You're
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday.
I'm Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitally. We are broadcasting
live from the Taro dot Com studios in Los Angeles,
and before we go, we're gonna leave you with our
feel good story of the week because we are just

(01:17:00):
weeks away from the Olympics and you guys, Simone Bios
is heading back to the Olympics after earning her spot
on the US gymnastics team last week. And if you
watched her floor routine, incredible, Oh my god, did you
see the perfection? Did Taylor Swift?

Speaker 5 (01:17:17):
Did you see the members of the US men's gymnastics
team try her skills?

Speaker 4 (01:17:21):
No? Oh god, it was so funny.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
Oh I need to see that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
It was so funny.

Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
There was like between like the uneven bars and some
of the beam work because the guys don't do beam.

Speaker 15 (01:17:32):
Yeah, it's like the guys couldn't even do She is
in a league of wild own. But this is the
really cool part that I love her. Husband, Bear Safety
Jonathan Owens, will be by her side because Chicago has
reportedly given Owens time off during training camp this summer
so he can travel to Paris to watch his wife

(01:17:53):
compete for Team USA.

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
Now, this, you guys, is the perfect excuse to mismaity
have unlike Aaron Rodgers being in Egypt. Just gonna put
that out there. This is a great excuse. And obviously,
like Simone is making one of the biggest comebacks we've
seen in the Olympics because if you remember after the
twenty twenty Olympics, she got the twisties, which is kind

(01:18:17):
of like the yips in every other sport.

Speaker 4 (01:18:19):
And she couldn't track herself in the air everything.

Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
Yeah, she's a documentary out now where she talks about it.
There's like she lost it, you lose yourself, like mid twisted.
Not only bad for her, but like terrifying.

Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
For her life.

Speaker 4 (01:18:33):
Right, Oh no, you can't.

Speaker 1 (01:18:34):
It is the most dangerous thing you can do, right.
And Simobiles is the most decorated gymnast in history, male
or female. This is a huge moment for her and
her family. And I love that he gets to be there.

Speaker 5 (01:18:49):
Yeah, absolutely, And honestly, this speaks a lot, I think
to the Bear's culture and the front office and the
changing of everything that Ryan Poles and Mattie Berflu have
preached as far as culture goes, which is like your
family comes first, and we're a tight knit group and
we understand that there are things bigger than football. All
this other stuff that breeds a good culture is now

(01:19:12):
being like they're walking the walk with it and they're saying, listen,
your wife is going to do this incredible thing.

Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
You should absolutely be there.

Speaker 5 (01:19:19):
Doesn't matter if you miss a couple of days of
training camp, and especially in the early goings of training camp. Also,
Jonathan Owens is a rotational safety for the Bears, and
this is a new like it's a new team for
him because it's in the Packers. But at the same time,
this clearly there's things bigger than football and the Bears
understand that. And I really appreciate that the Bears are
going to be on hard knocks this year for training camp.

Speaker 4 (01:19:41):
You're going to get to see.

Speaker 5 (01:19:43):
Leave and come back. I'm sure they're going to have
a camera group. I'm sure they're going to have a
camera with him in Paris. I applaud the Bears for
doing this, but I also I mean this is just
an incredible moment for a sports power couple, especially where
you know Simone.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
Is she is gymnastics, she is US gymnastics. She is gymnastics.
She is the most decorated gymnast man or woman.

Speaker 5 (01:20:11):
And I love to see her husband going to support
her and really being there for her because this is
a big feat that she's attempting to do. Is overcoming
everything she overcame mental health wise and now growing.

Speaker 1 (01:20:23):
Just in the twenty twenty. I am so excited. And
gymnastics is gymnastics and ice skating I think are My
two favorite Olympics was to watch.

Speaker 5 (01:20:34):
Gymnastics in the summer. I mean that is what I
think of when I think of the summer.

Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
Is gymnastics. That was everything that was like my childhood. Yeah,
I am so excited.

Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
I am so.

Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
Excited for all this. Thank you guys so much for
spending your afternoon with us. Have a fun and safe weekend.
We'll see you next week, same time, same place,
