Carmen Vitale. Thank you for spending your afternoon with Karme
and me. Happy Summer League that kicked off last night.
We got our first look at the new young, up
and coming stars. We also got some great quotes from
Laker's new head coach JJ Reddick that we'll get to
in a bit because that was hilarious. Euro and Coopa
(00:27):
finals both tomorrow on Fox.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
The conclusion of the summerfacker.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Like the most beautiful month of like soccer madness, I
know so much fun Eros are first noon for US
through Eastern? Is it normal if you're like a West
Coast person to like always put Pacific first?
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Because I never say Eastern first? I mean, is that it?
Speaker 6 (00:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (00:48):
Am I the only one? It's only people who grew
up on the West Coast.
Speaker 7 (00:51):
It's yeah, it's standardized, is like East Coast first? Like
even growing up in Central time, it was always like
eight pm Eastern, seven pm Central, So like Eastern it
comes first because that's when everything's happened first.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Okay, fine, so Europe can find Euros at three pm
Eastern and then COPA eight pm Eastern. I mean, what
like a lineup to Spain versus England, Argentina versus Columbia,
Like this is going to be beautiful, Like Fox is
so happy that this is Like obviously it would be.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
The US was still in it.
Speaker 7 (01:22):
It would also be better certain teams in the Euros
were still in it. But that's okay, there's you know England's.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
It's still It's still great.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I will be finding the best soccer bar and having
a time with all of the fans and hopefully some
great European watch parties.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
I don't know who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
I mean nothing compared to actual European watch parties.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Nothing does that's a nothing compared. We're still going to
have a great time.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:45):

The Score in Chicago, Laurence Holmes, joining us in about
thirty minutes.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
So excited.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
You were so excited all week, right, you just was
with him on TV?
Speaker 4 (02:09):
I was.
Speaker 7 (02:09):
I was on a Football Night in Chicago on NBC
Sports Chicago with Lawrence and actually I was on six
seventy the Score with him and Layla and Dan Bernstein
earlier this week.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
I'm going on the podcast next week, not not Lawrence's, but.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
So it's just like a big family situation. It's like, Hey,
come on all of our shows, and then I'll come
on all of your show.
Speaker 8 (02:29):
No.
Speaker 7 (02:29):
It was so funny because Lawnce was like, if you
ever need, you know, someone to come on and talk
to Chicago sports or basketball or like, have me on.
I was like, I'm going to take you up on that.
And then tomorrow a day later, I was.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Like, so, do you want to come on tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (02:41):
And then we had yeah La reporter Lauren Jones from
the Sporting Tribune. In hour two, we have producer Patrick
with US Today technical producer Christopher Fett, Martin Wiss at
their News Days guess.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
But as we.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Were talking before we got on, Eric Carmen, we are
inching closer and closer to football season, fifty four days
to opening now Chiefs versus Ravens Thursday Night Football, So
that means training camps are right around the corner. Ravens
rookies reported today they're the first camp to kind of.
Speaker 7 (03:11):
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out why the Ravens are
always because they're not playing in the Hall of Fame Game.
Usually the first teams that start practicing, like you can first.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
They're the first game Chiefs Ravens Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 7 (03:22):
Yeah, but like you have the Hall of Fame game
in preseason, that's the first preseason game, and usually those
teams start the earliest.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Ravens don't have a new head coach.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I'm like, I'm trying to figure out what it is.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
They are just all in this year.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
I think it's it's just they.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Just they just are.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
And within the next two weeks everyone will be reporting
to their camps around the league. So the question is
that we're starting to show off with who has the
most pressure heading into camp this year?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
All get started.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
I was to say, who do you wanted to go first?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
All uh, all get started with mister Aaron Rodgers. The
last time this man played a full game was eighteen
months ago. That is a year and a half ago.
Aaron Rodgers has so much to prove this year. He
only lasted four snaps last season before snapping his achilles.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
All the pressure is going to be on Aaron Rodgers
and the Jets.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Not only do they have six primetime games, are favored
in fourteen of their seventeen, which if they won all
of those should be a solid division win and make
a playoff runt. But the Jets have put all of
their eggs in the Aaron Rodgers basket. If this doesn't
work out, people are getting fired and it's.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
Going to be chaos, justifiably so. And it's not off
to a great start.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I'm just people say, might say it's not that big
of a deal, but missing mandatory mini camp. Even if
you say it's not a big deal, it's mandatory. And
that's because that's a good example. We know why now
and it was he he was on a vacation in
each of This is not a good example for the
younger guys in the locker room when you're supposed to
be leading by example. Yeah, you can't take away that
(05:02):
he's a four time MVP, one back to back in
twenty twenty twenty one, but the last season with the Packers.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
He dipped.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
He's forty years old. He's closer to the finish line
than he is to the start. He's coming off a
huge injury. It's not a small feat to come back
from an achilles injury. It's said to be one of
the hardest. I don't know all all the pressures on
Aaron Rodgers going into the season.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
For me, yeah, I mean the reason the Jets brought
him there was to win a Super Bowl. Yes, and
so that's why, like when we talk about expectations for
the New York Jets, it has to be Super Bowl,
however unrealistic, that feels, yeah, because this is this is
a team that has an unprecedented amount of failure over
the last decade plus.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Longus Are they one of the little playoffs trout?
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Yeah, est, I just it's it's I get you know.
Speaker 7 (05:59):
Yeah, there's a lot of pressure on Aaron Rodgers. There's
always pressure on Aaron Rodgers. He knows that people will
get fired because this would have been this will be
a horrible deal if he doesn't end up getting the
Jets not even just into the playoffs, but an actual
run to the superwo like because otherwise, like like that's
that's it, Like they have no contingency planned for after
(06:20):
Aaron Rodgers nothing, or at least they have a little
bit more of a contingency plan though as his backup
this year, or they.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Didn't have that last year, Like.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Why didn't you go out and get a guy?
Speaker 7 (06:30):
Why didn't you go to there's a lot of dysfunction there. Wow,
I yeah, it's it's I yeah, I agree with that.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
He's already like there's already been comments also like just
like you know, far fetched thought. If it doesn't work
out with Rogers in New York, maybe he ends up
in Vegas. There were comments this week about well, you
can't wait to play again with DeVante Adams, and it
kind of seems more realistic that.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I don't know, there's more realistic that Davante goes he.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Has two more years.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
I mean, Rogers has two more years on his contract
free agent twenty twenty six. He'll be forty two at
the time. He's already like gone on, there's all the
tree to believe there still wants to still wants to play.
I don't know, it's.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
Just I though, I think it's more realizing that Davante
Adams gets traded into the Jets. I don't know how
the Jets make room for that or what they give
up or any kind of stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
But you saw in Receiver, if you've been watching Receiver
on Netflix.
Speaker 7 (07:23):
I don't watched it yet, Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers
had dinner before the Raiders and the Jets played each other.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Now Rogers wasn't playing in Vegas.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
They had dinner and like there was a parting, like
they said to each other, like basically the sentiment was that,
like it'll happen soon, like we'll play again together soon,
so he'll.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Be again together soon.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Who's gonna go?
Speaker 7 (07:44):
Well, I think it's absolutely like Davante going to the Jets,
because there's there's there's the like if the Jets have
so much talent, yeah, as compared to the Raiders. Like
it's with the Raiders, it's Davante Adams and it's Max
Crosby and that's it. So you think that if the
Jets get I don't know, I think that there's room
for some surprise. Surprise is also David BACHTIERI. Now this
(08:08):
isn't as sexy, but David Batieri left tackle. It doesn't
have a home. So I don't know, do the Jets
go and get him? But yeah, I agree, there's a
lot of pressure around Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Who you got Caleb Williams, Yeah, he was my number two.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Chicago does know how to be chill. I'll be like.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
They've never had that guy, They've never had a quarterback
this is but this is my thing. Throw over four
thousand yards and more than thirty So like, yeah, all
of course are not going to be chill. They finally
have what they think is a generational talent.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
No, No, what I'm saying is they are never chill. It
doesn't matter if they have that guy. They had so
much hype last year because Justin Fields was finally coming
into a second year in a season not.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
As much hype as like getting the number one overall
picked generational talent.
Speaker 7 (08:52):
No, I'm here to tell you this is the cycle
of Chicago Bears fan. It happens every year. As someone
who grew up there, as someone who covers that team,
every year Chicago gets its hopes up. The only difference
about this year is that it is justified, and so
it is justified because it's justified. That adds to I
(09:13):
guess the national attention like.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Knocks, So now you're gonna have literally the world watching
you're behind the scenes.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
The reason that season, the reason that there is so
much pressure is because there's so much more attention because
you get hard knocks. But you also like on paper,
this roster looks stacked.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
It is stacked.
Speaker 7 (09:35):
Yeah, you've got an embarrassment of riches at receiver, You've
got what should be a good offensive line. Your defense
should be top five in the league this year, returning
defense to Chicago. So that's why these expectations are I
guess more justified.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
But you have no matter how much.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
Talent you're surrounded by, Caleb Williams is still a rookie
and coming into the league as a rookie, there are
going to be bumps in the road, and Chicago fans
don't give you a lot of grace, So there's everything
is going to be under a microscope. The good news
is that Caleb Williams, this is nothing new for him,
and Caleb Williams knows how to handle pressure. He knows
how to handle expectations, he knows how to handle the
(10:17):
media circus. And that's something that actually talked to his
left guard Tevin Jenkins about this summer was he is
a businessman through and through, but.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
This is he just started a company.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
It works in his favor because that he is so
used to this, because he is going to one of
the largest markets in the country, a very passionate fan
base that is going to shine the spotlight on him
all from the I mean, it's already happened. So the
fact that he already knows how to deal with that
and knows how to block out the noise, block out
the distractions and focus on football, I think works to
(10:51):
his favor, to the Bear's favor, all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
I think he can handle the pressure. As a result.
It's just going to be interesting if things don't get
off to a good start.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
How that how he overcomes that adversity.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah, I mean what they start with Titans text, they've
got a schedule to start ram so they can start
two and two before he really gets to division rival
week eleven, that the schedule hits hard, then he gets
hit hard.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
That's the thing is you have and we talked about
this before the Bears schedule, you have the opportunity to
ease eight and two being.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
A prop Then again, really good for Kayleab.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
You don't need Caleb to be a world beater right away,
not only because of your schedule, but because of the
talent you have on your roster.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
So if there are some bumps in the road, I
think they're gonna lose some games they should win. They'll
probably win some games that they should lose. But by
the time you hit Division play week eleven against the
Packers at home, oh my god. If Caleb Williams and
the Bears can beat the Packers at home week eleven, November.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Seventeen, and it went's the last time.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
They haven't beat them in I think it's eight straight now.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Because it was like, yeah Rogers, like I own like that.
Speaker 7 (11:58):
Oh yeah, well then then and then Jordan and Bears
last year too, Yeah, so he can. I think it's
ten actually now because I think Rogers left it at
eight and then Jordan now added another two. So I
think that like it's it's been ten straight wins for
the Green Bay Packers if they're not mistaken.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
You think you how you think they're going to finish
first second in the NFC North, I mean, yeah, no.
Speaker 7 (12:20):
Bears, well no, no, no, lineup Bears are going to be
probably third.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Okay, so you're gonna go Lions pack Lions, and.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
I don't know who's gonna win that.
Speaker 8 (12:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
And but here's the thing is, I don't think the
Vikings are going to be terrible. I think they're probably
it's very conceivable they get to seven to eight wins.
This is going to be a really tough division because
it's stacked. I mean stock seven wins last year. Yeah,
so I it's it's going like that's the the division games.
Being backloaded is going to be so interesting because it's
going to mean so much for the.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
NFC North in particular.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Well, and people are going to like that's the part
of the season where majority of the guys are playing injured.
Everyone's going to be beat up. Yeah, everyone's going to
be beat up. There was another interesting take this week.
I heard from Mark Schlith talking about Caleb Williams and
generational talent doesn't mean generational quarterback.
Speaker 9 (13:08):
Ticke listen, I see the talent, there's no question about
the talent, but generational talent doesn't mean generational quarterback. Joe
Montana didn't have generational talent. He's one of the best
quarterbacks you've ever seen. Tom Brady didn't have generational talent,
but he is the goat of all quarterbacks. Peyton Manning
didn't have generational talent, but he is great. Drew Brees
didn't have generational talent. He's going to the Hall of Fame. Like,
(13:29):
there's a big difference between generational talent and being a
you know, all pro great quarterback.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
So then how does yeah, how does Caleb Williams be
kind of that guy that is a generational talent and
a generational quarterback?
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (13:48):
This is again I couldn't agree more because you look
at Dustin Fields, who had so much talent, so much
has so much talent, Yeah, did not play it into
a quarterback. Because what separates the good from the great
quarterbacks isn't physical, it's mental because that position is so mental,
and you're the captain on the field and you're what
makes that engine go. So it's how fast can you
(14:08):
get through your reads? How good of decisions can you make?
That is what separates good quarterback play from great quarterback play,
And honestly, that comes with time and experience. You can
take the right steps and start your upward ascension. As
we saw with Jordan Love last year. But keep in mind,
Jordan Love had three years to digest this playbook before
he ever stepped on the field. So that's why when
(14:29):
you ask a quarterback to come in right away.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
And behind one of the greatest during that time, Rogers,
you behind him during MVP seasons.
Speaker 10 (14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Yeah, But that's why when you ask guys like Caleb
or like a quarterback to come in right away and
be their starter, you still need to give them grace
no matter how much talent there are around, because the
game needs to slow down for them. They need to
understand what they're looking at. NFL defenses are so much
more sophisticated than what they get in college. You cannot
beat people without right talent, and the NFL, everybody has talent.
(15:01):
That's why they're in the NFL. You have to figure
out how to make your mark, and you have to
figure out the mental side of the game. Break things down,
make good decisions, see the field, see what the defenses
are giving you, and figure out.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
When to take those shots.
Speaker 7 (15:15):
Yeah, when to like audible and take stuff away from
you know, whatever the play call comes in. You need
to be able to recognize all of that. You can't
recognize all of that until you have experience against it. Yeah,
so that's why you know, things like people like CJ.
Stroud are such an outlier because they come in and
they're immediately But you also see some of these clips
we've seen surface. Yeah, you see how incredibly intelligent CJ.
(15:37):
Sports Stroud is and how well he can recognize defense.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Well and he just like he has such a respect
for the game and his teammates. That's what the opportunity
that he has. So you not only have to be
physically ready for this, but you have to be mentally
mature enough to know that you are the leader of
a billion dollar franchise and teams with all of the
pressure in the world on.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
You as a young twenty year old.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
Right, which is a very very hard ask and that's
why it takes a while usually, and we just need
to allow Caleb Williams some grace there. And I'm totally
with stink though, like just because you are a generational talent,
which I haven't used the word generational with Kayla Williams
at all.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
I don't believe in using it.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Yeah, no, you've you've actually been strong with that, Like,
don't say that till we see it, right, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (16:20):
Like the last prospect I think I ever used it
for like coming out before he played a snap of
NFL football, was Andrew Luck.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
So this is we shouldn't get caught up in that.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Well, but everyone like I think he he was. He
panned out to be that, but then just like hung
it up, hung it up early.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
Well, yeah he did, but I mean that doesn't discount
how good of a quarterback he was. He could have
kept playing forever. But I respect his you know, everybody
respects his decision. It's just that Kayler Williams is the
best prospect, yes, to come out in a while. Yes,
that does not necessarily translate until he gets experienced in
the NFL. I'm not comfortable calling him generational until he
takes some snaps, and I don't think there's anything wrong
(16:58):
with that.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
So Okay, there, there you go, both of our pressure picks.
We need to see.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Results because we haven't seen results yet. All Right, we're
gonna take a quick break here when we come back.
We got our first look at Lebron and Curry playing
together on tmosaying, oh my goodness, you guys, we are
in for a treat.

Speaker 12 (17:43):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You don't interrupting our promo.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.
Speaker 11 (17:53):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Let me put this into context.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (18:00):
Anyway, just listening to the Paully and Tony Fusco Show
on I on Radio. Apple podcasts ohereva you get your
podcasts yea.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitally. We are broadcasting live from the Tara
dot com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your Saturday afternoon with Carrie and me and who we
tease this at the break, you guys, But we got
our first look at Team USA this week. Lebron James
and Steph Curry on the same team is chef's kiss, Like,
(18:32):
I am so excited to watch this. This is the first
time Lebron and Curry have been on the same team.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
I can't believe anybody ever thought it was a good
idea to just have amateurs play in the hy.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Like, oh my gosh, I the one play where it
was like Lebron to Curry to like lap up slammed.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
It was just like it was beautiful.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
I felt like we were watching a video game like
it straight up felt like it is watching a video.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Like building your own team on NBA twok. Like It's
just it was.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
It was beautiful and we're going to get it.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Next game on FS one at twelve pm Eastern on Monday,
they're playing Australia. They just landed in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
Did you see the video of Steph Curry meeting a
falcon for the first time?
Speaker 5 (19:15):
A bird? No, It's like Jojai. It was so cute.
It was it was so pure. It was so cute.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But the biggest news this week from Team USA was
Kawhi being sent home and Derek White being selected as
his replacement over his teammate Jalen Brown, who just won
Finals MVP, and Jalen Brown put up some cryptic tweets.
I was like, how do I describe this one. It's
like the curious serious face with the monocle emoji where
(19:44):
you're kind of like questioning, like.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Huh, why why?
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yeah, he did like three of those and then tweeted
at Nike, this what we're doing now. He's not a
Nike athlete, and Nike is a sponsor of Team USA,
So there was kind of a lot.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
Of and it wasn't Nike's decision either. The grand Hill
came out, it was.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
He said, you get twelve spots, you have to build
a team, and one of the hardest things is leaving
people off the roster that I'm a fan of and
I look forward to watching throughout the season, throughout the playoffs,
Guys who've been Finals MVPs. That was like, right for
Jalen Brown, Guys who have been a part of the program,
Guys who have won gold medals, Guys who I respect,
admire and enjoy watching. But the responsibility I have to
(20:24):
do is put together a team and a team that
compliments each other, a team that fits, a team that
will get us the best opportunity for success. So I
I don't know why wouldn't you at this point just
put the top players.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
Think about it though, but like, what are we arguing?
Because even if Dalen Brown's on this roster, how many
minutes is he actually getting? Also, Derek White gives you
he's like a defensive Yeah, he's a defensive guy, and
you don't have that when you have this like team
full of superstars. You need to make sure that you
can throw your opponents off a little bit, and I
think Derek White can do that. Plus you already have
(21:00):
Jason Tatum, Devin Booker. I mean they are very similar
players to Jalen Brown. So like Jalen Brown would be redundant.
And at this point, Jalen Brown is a great player,
but does he have the longevity like he'll have a
chance to be on the Olympic team in four years,
Like he's still going to be in the league, he
should be still good. I just I agree with it
because Grant Hill and Tmosa is right where you do
(21:22):
need to build out a team. You can't just say,
all right, I need to like all the superstars assemble.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
This isn't the Avengers. This is an end game. As
much as it.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Feels bring all the best players out the team, like
all these superstars, how many of these guys really play defense?
Speaker 7 (21:40):
So who wants to play defense is more probably the
better question. So I understand it from that point of view.
And again I don't expect Derek White to get a
ton of minutes, just like I wouldn't have expected Jaylen
Brown to get a ton of minutes if he was
on the roster because there are so many superstars in
front of him, even guys that are of a very
(22:01):
similar play style as him.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
It's just so crazy.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
And the comparison this week is how does this team
compare to the Dream Team? I mean, the Dream Team
had eleven of their twelve players make it into the
Hall of Fame. Yeah, but this is this is pretty
darn close, Like, this is as close as we can get,
and it's a different style of game.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
I think that they.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Honestly like there's like a nostalgic element to this everybody
where you're like like that Dream Team is so just
immortalized and untouchable in so many ways that like, I
don't think anybody would be able to really this goes.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
That's like very similar to the like Michael Jordan Lebron
James compared.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
That's all.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
Yeah, it is because you have the younger guys arguing like, oh,
those guys wouldn't last a minute in this year, in
today's NBA, and it is it is, and like.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
We'll never know. That's that's the reality of this.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Argumentyody becomes a great conversation till the end of time.
But now it's check in with Martin Wise and see
what's trending.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
The Tigers were down five runs in the.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Nine, OK, tell me because I looked away and looked
up and saw they were tied in the tenth.
Speaker 13 (23:07):
Well, they were tied in tenth. M just scoring five
runs at a night And this is what it sounded
like at the end, swinging a.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Fly ball deeck left. That ball is carrying and it is.
Speaker 12 (23:22):
Walked off home run g or Shella this fourth of
the year and the Tigers battle back from down five
in the night inning to walk it off on the
Los Angeles Dodgers and eleven to nine finalists.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
They dumped the water bucket.
Speaker 13 (23:39):
So eleven and nine in the final there Iago Field.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Just losing these awful games all.
Speaker 13 (23:47):
The time is so bad for the Tigers fans sitting
behind the mic right here, sorry about that. Me and
chrispher Fed both stood up and had a moment. Alex,
sorry to beat on your southern California.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Maybe it's bad luck.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
I'm wearing an All Star game jack right now has
a Texas like logo on it, and I like forse thing.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
My la heart is having a really hard time with
this look.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
I said, welcome to life in Chicago. For both teams
right now.
Speaker 13 (24:12):
Speaking of life in Chicago, the Chicago Cubs down eleven
to two to the Saint Louis Cardinals in the eighth inning.
Speaker 5 (24:19):
Okay, and even.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 13 (24:22):
The White Sox, while we're just keeping on the subject,
they're down.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Three to two. But sir Hart in the eighth inning
as well, the.
Speaker 13 (24:29):
Yankees are leading the Ools for nothing. In the first inning,
I see the Angels and I'm sorry. The Marlins and
the Reds tied nothing. Nothing with in the second Cleveland
Tampa Bay, same score, nothing nothing in the second inning.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Got a bunch of these games just getting started.
Speaker 13 (24:43):
Rockies in the Mets zero zero in the second Houston
and the I mean the.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Astros and the Rangers. Houston with a two to.
Speaker 13 (24:52):
One lead in the first inning, but has bases loaded.
That score is gonna change right now. Oh no, never
mind third base and made the out there you go
two two to White Ashtros. In this academic we have
a winner at Wimbledon, Bore Kochikov, kray Chikova.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
There we go.
Speaker 13 (25:08):
We got it of the Czech Republic beat Italys Jasmine
Paulini in ladies singles six two two six sixty four. Tomorrow,
Novak Djokovic will meet Carlos al KaAZ.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
In the men's final.
Speaker 13 (25:18):
In the WNBA that Liberty beat the Sky eighty one
to sixty seven. Sabrina Ionescu had twenty eight points to
lead all scores. Angel reese Is double double record streak
ends at fifteen. She finished with eight points and sixteen
rebounds and was quadruple teamed on.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Her last touch of the game.
Speaker 13 (25:36):
To next year, she didn't go ahead and continue to
extend that record.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Sparks and the Wings are at halftime right now.
Speaker 13 (25:42):
Deerka Hanby leading scorer for Los Angeles with seventeen points,
Los Angeles has the lead.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Forty five to forty four.
Speaker 13 (25:49):
Denver Nuggets first round picked Deron Holmes suffered a torn
ride achilles that summer league. He suspected to miss the
upcoming season. Veteran center Tize Gibson signed a one year,
three point three million dollar contract with the Hornets. You
guys were talking about this earlier. Rookies for the Baltimore
Ravens report training camp today. Ravens the first team in
the NFL to start camp. The rest of the veterans
for Baltimore reporting on July twentieth. The earliest day that
(26:12):
veterans can report is July seventeenth.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
The Texans who are playing.
Speaker 13 (26:16):
In that Hall of Fame game are expecting their entire
roster to report that day.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Alex Carmen back to you guys.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Thanks Martin, Oh, you're listening to Fox Sports Saturday at
Alex Curry here with Carmen Vitale. We are broadcasting live
from the Tarak dot Com studios in Los Angeles. Thank
you for spending your Saturday afternoon with carme and me.
But it is time for our first guest. He's the
host of six seventy The Score in Chicago and the
host of the House of L podcasts.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
Please welcome Laurence Holmes to the show. Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 6 (26:45):
Oh, I'm so excited to be on you guys' show.
I've been a fan.
Speaker 10 (26:48):
Carmen knows this, so I'm very supportive of what you
guys are doing.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
So thanks for having me on.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
This is a big bro right here.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
All yeah, CARMI was saying, basically, she's been on all
of your shows this week, so I was like, Okay,
now it's time.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
You got to return to favor. You have to come on, Lawrence.
Speaker 6 (27:07):
I oh, like, Alex, he's not lying. I absolutely Oh.
Speaker 10 (27:11):
Like, basically, whenever we've asked Harman to pop up on
the TV show or on the radio show, He's like yes,
and she actually brings, like, you know, content and energy.
Of course, I am going to try really hard to
live up to that, and I.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
Definitely I believe in you, Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
All eyes are on Caleb Williams and what he can
do as a rookie for the Bears next season. Do
you think he is under the most pressure in the
league heading into this season.
Speaker 6 (27:38):
It's a lot of pressure.
Speaker 10 (27:39):
I mean, for sure, I don't know if it's the
most because I think even Lamar is under pressure this
year in the NFL, But considering the nest that he's
been dropped in, how good things are. And ordinarily, if
you're the number one pick, you don't have someone like
Keenan Allen, you don't have DJ or you don't have
(28:01):
a team that's usually expected.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
To be a playoff team. And there are a lot
of people who think the Bears are a playoff teams. So, yeah,
he's under a.
Speaker 10 (28:09):
Lot of pressure and it's going to be interesting over
the next couple of days. Most of the people, and
Carmen knows this because she's she's seen in her whole life.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Most of the people in Chicago are so.
Speaker 10 (28:20):
High right now off of the.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
Idea of Caleb Williams.
Speaker 10 (28:24):
Did they Yeah, they haven't even started to think about
the possibility that he might hold out, Like that's not
even a thing yet, But let a couple more days
go by.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
I was gonna say, Laurence, like, I'm firmly in the
camp of the fact, like there are certain parts of
a workie contract that are negotiable, where like when you
get your money.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Yeah, yeah, so he hasn't signed yet.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
He hasn't signed with Bears yet, but neither is ramaduon Say,
for that matter. So Caleb Williams is a businessman, Like,
what did we expect if he's gonna if there are
negotiable points of a contract, he is going to leave
no stone unturned and make sure that he's getting his
money when he can get his money.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Are you are you really concerned about this, Lawrence.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
I'm not concerned about it, but I'm keeping a watch
on it because we know it's what forty years and
thirty nine million. We know what the money is supposed
to be. But now we start talking about the idea.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
Of how is the bonus structured, when is it paid out?
Speaker 6 (29:19):
All of those things that were in the margins.
Speaker 10 (29:21):
Whereas before players that were coming into the draft, they
wanted their money, they wanted to get close to the
game check, they wanted their bonus. Caleb is the first
quarterback really to come in as a millionaire, you know
that has that his own money. I guess you could
probably make an argument for Eli Manning coming in because
(29:42):
of his family is different.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
He has like he earned like this nil money in
business deals.
Speaker 10 (29:47):
Yeah, exactly, So he's got his own money and I
think that he's been a disruptor to the process already,
and I mean that in the best possible way. He
is like, Hey, I'm not doing all this dumb stuff
that you guys have other people do. Everyone knows I'm
going to be the top tick, so I'm only talking
to teams that could possibly be the.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
Top pick in the draft.
Speaker 10 (30:08):
So I don't think that there's a reason to worry.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
I think there is a reason to go all right, because.
Speaker 10 (30:13):
The clock is ticking, and now that everyone here is
is kind of come down from their Fourth of July
celebrations and at least until this afternoon, thinking that the
Cubs might be good again.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
They all right, Lawrence, let's all assume that he signs
his rookie contract.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
All is good.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
What would be considered a successful first season for Caleble Lambs.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
And the Bears.
Speaker 10 (30:40):
I've been going back and forth about this, olex and
tell you the truth, and Karen and I had a
discussion a few weeks.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
Ago about it.
Speaker 10 (30:46):
If you look at the number on fan duel for
like over under yards for him, it's like thirty four sixty.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
Or something like that. That would be the fourth best
quarterback year.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Oh yeah, so so.
Speaker 10 (31:05):
Look, even if he's anywhere around that, I think that
it's a success. And then the question becomes, how did
he look? Is he getting better as this season goes on?
And and to me, when you start looking at the
precedent of rookie quarterbacks putting up those type of numbers, yeah,
there's precedent for it, but there there isn't a ton
(31:27):
of history of it.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
And plus there's still stuff that he gets to know.
I thought it was interesting that before the Bears broke,
one of the.
Speaker 10 (31:35):
Things that he talked about and one of the things
that the coaches talked about, was him making the adjustment
from a clap cadence to a voice cadence. And I
don't I don't think that that's insignificant.
Speaker 6 (31:49):
And I know that he did it in high school.
But there's a lot of stuff that he's going to
have to learn.
Speaker 10 (31:53):
And I know that Karma's been on this with all
of the reporting that she's done on Shane Waldron that
I think he's a good I think he's got a
really good coach is going to help him walk through it.
But that's just something that you need reps. So him
getting ready in practice and him playing three or four
snaps in the Hall of Fame game. All of that
stuff is to help it so that when he gets
(32:14):
going in the regular season that there are less potholes
for him to run into.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yeah, I mean, that's the thing about being a rookie
quarterback period is yes, like the college game at first
glance looks a lot like the NFL game, But there
are so many little things, especially when it comes to
quarterback play, that are completely different that make guys like CJ.
Speaker 7 (32:35):
Stroud just to complete anomaly because usually it just takes
a little bit of time to get acclimated to that.
But Lawrence, one thing that I think is going under
talked about is, all right, you have Caleb coming in.
Obviously that's going to overshadow all of the narrative and
the headlines. But we talk about all the talent on
this team, and you say, okay, well, honestly, with this talent,
(32:56):
maybe we don't need the quarterback to be a world beater.
But part of that is, especially on the defensive side
of the ball, then picking up where they left off
at the end of last season. There is a tremendous
amount of pressure in my opinion on this bears defense
to be a top five unit this year to insulate
against any of these growing pains. And do we think,
(33:16):
especially with that into your rotation on the defensive line,
that they're up to this.
Speaker 10 (33:21):
It's so interesting that you say that because Montez Sweat
comes in, he gets six facts, he ends up leading
the team. In fact, even though he wasn't there the
whole year. I don't think that they did enough to
help augment Montese Sweat. One of my biggest frustrations in
someone who covers the Bears is that, and you know
(33:43):
Carmon knows is Alex you don't.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
I'm old.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
I'm so old.
Speaker 10 (33:49):
I'm so old that I covered Lovey Smith's teams. Love
Smith's defense was predicated covered two and I know that
the most important factor, most important position on that defense
is a three.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Tacks, a three tech yep.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
And for the last three years, Matt Everflace has had
to not have one of those guys. You need a
butt kicking three technique to jump off your defense. And
I also have questions about who's playing on the opposite
side of Montez Sweat so they're better when they were
clearly better with Sweat. They were clearly better with Ebraflus
(34:26):
called them the defense last year, but I do think
that there's still a personnel issue in the front part
of the defense.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
I think their linebacking corps is great.
Speaker 10 (34:34):
Ye I love their back four slash back five, but
those guys can't do their job and the guys up
front don't get after the.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Quarterback, especially from that interier.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Well, I'm excited for this behind the scenes look during
hard knocks and bears and everything is going to be great.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Thank you so much for joining us and giving us
all that inside info.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
Oh whenever you guys need it. I mean, I think
I owe you know what's.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
The artle Honestly, I don't know. It's been a lot,
but that doesn't mean you owe me, Lawrence.
Speaker 7 (35:06):
Lawrence has been a fixer in Chicago radio and in
Chicago sports for a long time.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
I'm very honored that you came on our program, Lawrence,
So thank you.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
It's the rip rothline, like I know, that's how I
feel about.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
We love it. Thank you. Great weekend.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
All right, guys, when we come back, it's the dues
and the don'ts in sports.
Speaker 5 (35:29):

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Carmen Vitale. We are broadcasting live from the Tar
dot com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your Saturday afternoon with carme and me. And it is
time you, guys for the dues and the Dons in
sports this week.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
I love it dues, wh I.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Love that and putting a spotlight on the don't.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
The subject brings me no joy?
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Don't that's insane.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
It's time for the dues and the Dons in sports.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
All right, I'm gonna get started with a due. Okay,
do it for the chip. Jaylen Brownson agreed to a
four year, one hundred and fifty six point five million
dollar contract with the Knicks.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
But here's the catch.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
This contract, him doing it this year is one hundred
and thirteen million less guaranteed than he would be eligible
to sign a year from now.
Speaker 8 (36:40):
Now.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
A lot of guys in their prime like don't take
less money so a team can build around their team
to like win now, especially.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
In the NBA when it's not a hard cap No.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
A lot of people talk if they want to win
a championship, but this is putting your money where your
mouth is, because clearly that's all Brunson wants to do.
He wants to win now hopefully like they do do
well and this team repays him later.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
Really, one hundred and thirteen million dollars less, I guarantee.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
That's a lot of money.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
Less say again, you can spend in.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
The in the NBA as much as you want, you
have to pay.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
Yes, you're like you get there in New York. But
like he doesn't see half of that.
Speaker 7 (37:24):
This isn't really like, this isn't like Tom Brady taking
less No, orse guys restructuring their contracts and designing bonuses,
say lessen their cap hits Like.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
That's a lot of money. That's a lot of so
much money. Four year, one hundred and fifty six point
five million, and could have gotten an extra one hundred and.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
Thirteen million, Like that's so much money.
Speaker 7 (37:46):
But that puts you in like two hundred and sixty
something seventy WHOA all right, yeah, I have a do
as well.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Okay, do your dance. I'm and Ross Saint Brown.
Speaker 7 (37:55):
He got in trouble with his parents for doing his
hip Thrust celebration touchdown.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
We saw this on receiver on Netflix.
Speaker 7 (38:01):
He did his little hip Thrust touchdown dance, which he
got from the Key and Peale skit.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Yeah. Uh, and he did it during the game and
his dad, who.
Speaker 7 (38:12):
Was a two times or three time Mister University time
Mister World, was actually yelling at Amen Ra's girlfriend because
he knew that they had been working on celebrations and
he thought she was the one that suggested this and
she was like, no, that was not me, that was
all him.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Uh yeah, So I thought that was hysterical.
Speaker 14 (38:29):
But yeah, did you see that other part with John
Brown his father where he's telling him at halftime to
drink Coca Cola nuts because it's got energy quote unquote.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
I'm like, oh it has sugar? What a court Sarah?
I mean like that, Hey, listen those guys and.
Speaker 14 (38:45):
He's two time Mister Universe, three times mister World.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
So like, just to add on to this, like Key
and Peel skits, Oh yeah, Obama fully did the Key
and Peele skit with Team USA garification that was on purpose.
Speaker 10 (39:01):
Crying.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Was that thing that was that was so good?
Speaker 7 (39:06):
Was he actually doing that on purpose or was that
just like I mean, because that's how it is.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
I don't know, but it was so good.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
It was so anybody.
Speaker 7 (39:13):
Ever had the code switch more than Barack Obama because
like you are in rooms with these diplomats and world
leaders that you had to be like so like stuffing
with but then like Lebron James comes over to you
and you're like, jam up and man, this man has
ranged every Does anybody have more range.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Than Barack Obama?
Speaker 10 (39:29):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (39:30):
I don't think so, Okay I have?
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Is that was that one of yours that was just.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Adding on to yours for it?
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Do crush it like Serena Because there were so many
quotable moments from Serena hosting the SP's this week, but
one of my faves, she said, Lebron wants to win
with his son on his team, but I won with
my daughter in my belly, And I think I know
(39:57):
which one is way more impressive. And I was just
like mic drops stand up Sana, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
She I mean, she had the mic drop bonus about
Harrison Vicker too. We quent to Frontson. I just I
was like.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Queen's and with Kendrick Lamar, no one, and I mean
nobody should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
He will make your own hometown hate you like it was.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
So good, It was so good good, all right, I
have do diversify your goals?
Speaker 5 (40:23):
Okay, this reddit college.
Speaker 7 (40:25):
Football's cant I follow on Twitter posted a meme of
if you've seen the meme where the highway sign it
says like one direction it says going for Brady's record. Okay,
the other direction says going for Rivers record. Yeah, the
other way. And it was a quote tweet of Mahomes
announcing that they're pregnant with baby number three. Philip Rivers
has a ton of kids now. They thing Mahomes is
going for it. It was one of the funniest memes
(40:46):
I've ever seen. Congratulations of Brittany and Patrick on the
bir three. I thought that was hysterical.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
We're gonna go for a couple baby announcements this week
with Trevor Lawrence having a girl, my homies, I love.
Speaker 5 (40:58):
This, all right, guys a week come back. We'll be
a cowboy next season. Not this is a next season.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

LA reporter Lauren Jones joining us from the Sporting Tribune
to talk to all things LA sports and speaking of
La Sports. I was watching the Lakers Summer League game
(42:11):
last night. I wanted to see how Bronnie and Dalton connect.
We're gonna do Bronnie interesting after the game kind of
said like he's he's in a slump to start, start
to start, which.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Isn't just as much as it's just like he's getting
off to a slow start, which yeah, I mean, he's
a second round pick. What do you expect?
Speaker 3 (42:31):
I mean, but Dalton connect went off. He took eighteen
more shots than any other player on either team last night,
twenty five point six rebounds for assists. He looks NBA ready.
I am happy for him and the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (42:47):
But it was the new.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Lakers head coach JJ Reddick on the broadcast that stole
the show for me.
Speaker 5 (42:54):
When his former TV.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Partner Doris Abby tim the Queen why he wanted to
be a coach, calling to.
Speaker 10 (43:05):
Coach, part of that is that I'm just a sicko
and I'm a masochist, and I want to sign up
for high stakes, high pressure.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Yeah, but I mean he went on and explained more
just the passion for the game.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
It was something he's always.
Speaker 6 (43:26):
Test.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
I'm a psycho and I'm a massachist. Yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
Yeah, like well he is.
Speaker 7 (43:34):
You want your coach to be a sicco first of all,
you want your coach to be a masachist because they're
going to do all of the little things and not
get burned out. I love it, said your whole test.
Speaker 8 (43:44):
I do.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
I'm excited for this Lakers team, you know what, Like, yes, okay,
Brownie's going to take a bit to get to where
whether he or his dad thinks he should be. But
Dalton connect was a steal with how low that he
dropped for the Lakers, JJ Reddick. He's doing it his way.
He's saying all the right things.
Speaker 7 (44:06):
Yeah, we said this before too, where like any second
round pick is you're just taking a chance on a guy.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
Yeah, that's all that ever is.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
It's ALLID is, And it's not that big of a deal.
Like right, it's not get over it, everybody, I thought.
Speaker 7 (44:17):
Actually, what was more interesting for him that JJ interview
was he kind of took a shot at Darvin Ham.
Speaker 4 (44:21):
Did you hear that?
Speaker 7 (44:22):
No, he said, one of the last thing, uh, one
of the last of course, it just went away. He
was talking about how the Lakers played a lot like
very random last year and how they play better in sets.
They played better in offensive sets, so like they need
a plan and too often last year they were playing
more random and outside of these sets. And I was like,
(44:46):
he said the sets had a much higher efficiency. So
whether or not that was intentional to kind of take
a shot a Darnham.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Yeah, Okay, Yeah, we're gonna get a lot of good
quotable moments from Joe.
Speaker 7 (44:59):
Well, he bad caster, so like, I mean, that's this
is the benefit of having a coach that knows how
to play the game.
Speaker 5 (45:03):
It is beautiful. I am so excited.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
Okay, but let's switch to the NFL and a team
that hasn't made many great headlines this offseason, The Cowboys.
Jerry Jones came into the off season saying they were
gonna make all the moves, right, this was gonna be
like all in this year. Well, yeah, they still have
a lot of big question marks. DAK contract, CD LAMB,
(45:27):
possible holdout. Michael Parsons will be a domino effect with
whatever happens with DAK and CD oh and Mike McCarthy
also playing for his contract for his season coaching for Yeah,
let's start with the DAK contract, Okay, and Let's be clear,
Dak has all of the leverage.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
Roachrade clause, no tag clause.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
He finished second in MVP voting most passing touchdown second
and passer rating third and passing yards and runner up
to the MVP yeah second and MVP voting yeah yeah.
So that in case you need reminding, quarterbacks are the
most important position on these billion dollar franchise, so at
some point you're going to have to pay your guy.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
Now, it was rumored that Dak.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Wanted somewhere around like sixty million a year, which is
a big jump from the fifty five mill being the
top right now, where you like, you're going to have
to pay your quarterback and you are the richest franchise
in the world, Dallas Cowboys the richest. And when you
(46:31):
look at the highest paid quarterbacks per year right now,
tie it first Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow at fifty five,
Jared Goff third with fifty three, Herbert fourth at fifty
two point five million, Lamar Jackson at five fifty two million,
Jalen Hurts fifty one million at six and fun fact,
none of these top six quarterbacks have won a Super Bowl.
(46:53):
Three of them have made it to a Super Bowl
and lost Burrow goff.
Speaker 5 (46:56):
It hurts.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
So yeah, you can already Dak has sniffed a Super
Bowl either.
Speaker 5 (47:01):
But hasn't.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
But but when you compare Dak and mahomes last sixty
regular season starts, it's pretty darn good and it is
almost identical.
Speaker 5 (47:15):
Okay, I'm just I'm on the little bit of the
Dak hype train right now.
Speaker 7 (47:19):
Okay, I realize that the stats say there, but there's
there's Yeah, it's it's that's a hard thing for me
to get behind because it's.
Speaker 5 (47:26):
So easily regular.
Speaker 7 (47:28):
Obviously regular, Patrick Mahomes is one of one is the
regular season. I'm here to tell you, though, that the
Cowboys pitfalls in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
How's that for alliteration?
Speaker 2 (47:39):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Lie more with the front office than they do with Dak.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Pascott attack, let's go. I mean, Dak is what two
and five in the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (47:47):
Look, Show me all.
Speaker 7 (47:48):
These quarterbacks other than Patrick Mahomes that have these wonderful
playoff records, even like they like, the best most guys
do is five hundred in the playoffs. So here's the thing,
and everybody will tell you this, the postseason is a
completely different season. Once you get there and the margin
for error is that much smaller. Dak doesn't magically I mean,
(48:10):
his last game against the Packers was probably his worst
playoff game, and I'm here to acknowledge that. I understand,
but Dak doesn't magically get horrible once the postseason starts.
It's that the margin for error is so much smaller
and he does not, from a skill position standpoint, have
the help he needs. Look at what Dallas Cowboys have
(48:32):
as far as weapons goes. He has Ceedee Lamb, who yes,
is a wonderful receiver. Who else is the defense afraid
of on that Dallas Cowboys roster? I like Jake Ferguson
as a tight end. They have one of the weakest
running back rooms going into this season. Who is your
number two? Brandon Cooks was supposed to be that for
you last year did not live up to that whatsoever.
(48:52):
Just in the NFC alone, there are so many offensive corps.
I am taking before the Dallas Cowboys, Eagles, Niners, Bears, Vikings, Lions.
I'm taking the entire NFC North, especially the Packers who beat.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
Them in the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (49:11):
Be due to the sheer amount of options available to
Jordan love the.
Speaker 4 (49:15):
Defense didn't know who to defend.
Speaker 7 (49:16):
Yeah, So how it contrasts that with all right, I'm
a defense, I'm going against the das Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
Who do I have to look out for? Ceedee lamb?
That is it. So when it comes to the playoffs,
that's not gonna fly.
Speaker 5 (49:29):
So then should Dak stay with the Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (49:32):
I hope he doesn't.
Speaker 7 (49:33):
I hope he's smart enough to understand that these Cowboys.
The Cowboys fro An office has only subtracted in the
last few years for Dak. They've got rid of Amari Cooper. Yeah,
like their offensive line. Everybody wants to talk about all
the Pro Bowlers that the Cowboys have, and I agree
they do. They have like seven or eight of them.
A lot of those are on defense. Dak Prescott is
one of them. Are all pros, actually nine Pro Bowls.
(49:53):
Dak Prescott is one of them. You have two guys
on your offensive line that are all Pros. But guess
what your offensive line is only as good? What does
this weak's link? You have Zach Martin Tyler Smith.
Speaker 4 (50:02):
That's great. You have a rookie starting at both left
tackle and center. This year. So, like, the offensive line
is not these Dallas.
Speaker 7 (50:11):
Offensive lines of old, what like Dak Prescott could get
could have his pick of the litter.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
If he hits the open market, he is going to
have a bidding war.
Speaker 5 (50:20):
Okay, where do you see him fitting in? Then?
Speaker 3 (50:22):
If it's not in Dallas, where could you see him
a good landing spot for him?
Speaker 7 (50:28):
I mean it's going to depend on a lot for
some of these teams that don't have quarterbacks this year
or may not have quarterbacks next year. Yeah, I mean,
like roughly a quarter of the league changes over when
it comes to their quarterbacks and their head coaches for
that matter, every off season. So you don't know necessarily
where that's going to materialize. But like, God, could you
(50:51):
imagine like half first of all, like half the league
runs this Shanahan McVay system.
Speaker 5 (50:54):
Uh huh.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
I would love to see Dak Prescott in a system
like that, with a bunch of windows dressing and a
bunch of weapons and all this other stuff. Could you
imagine him having all of that at his disposal?
Speaker 7 (51:05):
Because Dak is one of the best distributors of the
football of anybody, and he's one of the most reliable.
And again it's just the fact that when the postseason
comes around the margin for Eric, it's that much smaller.
But if you have options, you can lean on a
bunch of different guys, and I would trust Dak Prescott
to do that even you know, despite what we saw
again it's the.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
Green Bay backers.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
Yeah, I mean it's tough because it's like you're only
as good as your last game. And also, if HW
is a horrible way to end the year, if you're Dallas,
what's your contingency plan? You don't know what Trey Lance
is going to be. Like the fact that trying to.
Speaker 7 (51:37):
Luck into or fall backwards into another franchise quarterback like
you did with Dak, like you did with Tony Romo
in Trey Lance, that's that's too much luck, even for
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (51:48):
Yeah, I mean, do you think he's going to be
a Cowboy next season?
Speaker 4 (51:53):
Like I said, I hope not.
Speaker 7 (51:54):
I really, I really hope not, because I think that
we could see Dak's full potential elsewhere. Okay, the Cowboys
spent nothing, virtually nothing, I think fifteen million in free
agency this year.
Speaker 5 (52:03):
Nothing well, and going into the off season saying we're
all in No.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
That's flip service. Nothing that's all lip service.
Speaker 7 (52:10):
And by the way, do you know why Dak has
a no trade no tag claws? Tell me because the
Cowboys wait to the last minute to get all of
this done so that you do get backed up with
Dak Prescott. Ceedee lamb Micah Parsons all need to be
paid within a year yep, because like it, and somehow
their players kind of bail them out of this. But
it's just it's poor management, That's what it comes down to.
(52:33):
And so I put a lot more of the onus
on the front office for Dallas's playoff woes, yeah, than
I ever would for Dak Prescott.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
And the only way for people, I think.
Speaker 7 (52:42):
To see that is if Dak Prescott goes somewhere else
and is extremely successful.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
So I want it. I want it. No, Dak, don't
go back to Dallas.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
I mean, but like, okay, so what are you hearing?
Obviously like you you're you've got some insider like Dallas
cowboy information. Are they going to get a contract done
before the start of the season. Do you see that happening?
I thin Dallas is going to try. Dallas is going
to try only if he they hit that sixty million
A year number that he wants. That's the only way
he's excused.
Speaker 7 (53:07):
Like why otherwise, Like if you know that you can
get to the open market and get sixty million year, Yeah,
what is your insignive otherwise? Again, like the Dallas cannot
trade you, No, they cannot, Like so you can't go
at like you have all the leverage if you're actually.
Speaker 5 (53:20):
Say they didn't want to they didn't want to reset
the market.
Speaker 7 (53:23):
Yeah, of course they did because they can't because they
have to pay Cede Lamb and make a Parson's on
top of that. But if a deal doesn't get done
during training camp, Yeah, I think Dak Prescott.
Speaker 5 (53:32):
Has gone interesting.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
Interesting.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
It's going to be such an interesting year for the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
It always is. They are the kings of the drama.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
It's speaking of drama again. They've just been in the
news for like, not all the right reasons this offseason.
Speaker 4 (53:52):
On purpose, any news, any anyprs And.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
I need a moment you guys for the Dallas Cowboys
cheerleaders documentary The dec America's Sweetheart. First of all, very
well done Netflix. I binge this in a day, but
I was also shook at how much and what they
showed I was never a part of dance culture.
Speaker 5 (54:12):
I know you were. You were a dancer.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
I grew up yep as a dancer.
Speaker 5 (54:15):
But the way they pick apart these women is hard
to watch.
Speaker 7 (54:19):
That was that's your reality as a dancer. That's why, girl.
But I don't wonder why I have body images.
Speaker 5 (54:27):
Yes, no, no, not at all, Like every single you're.
Speaker 7 (54:30):
Literally I mean from fittings and everything. I just have
very vivid memories of being in a room with everybody,
and I developed earlier than most where they take the
measuring tape, oh, measuring everything and they're saying, oh, I
guess you're gonna.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
Have to be a large, sweetheart.
Speaker 7 (54:44):
And it's like, I'm a fourteen year old that just
happens to have grown into something and now I'm made
to feel like.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
I'm a leper.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
So that wasn't even the gnarliest part of all of this.
The biggest shock was hearing a billionaire explain why they
pay these athletes because they are athletes, so little Charlotte Jones,
Jerry Jones's daughter, Yeah, felt very proud. How about this
answer she gave, But she said there's a lot of
(55:14):
cynicism around pay for NFL cheerleaders as there should be.
Speaker 5 (55:17):
They're not paid a lot.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
Honestly, you guys, that quote should have ended right there, yes,
and she should have said, we'ren't changing that. Yes, No,
But she goes on to say, but the facts are,
they actually don't come here for the money. They come
here for something that's actually bigger than they're toxic. So
do they have a passion for dance. There's not a
lot of opportunities in the field of dance, so change
(55:39):
that to get to perform at an elite level. It's
about being a part of something bigger than themselves. It's
about a sisterhood that they were able to form, about
relationships that they have for the rest of their lives.
Speaker 5 (55:50):
They have a chance to feel like they're valued. No
they don't.
Speaker 7 (55:53):
You're not paying them. Also, they have to retry out
every single year.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
They don't feel value and.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
That there's something special making a difference. When the women
come here, they find their passion and find their purpose.
Speaker 7 (56:09):
What it's so toxic, Alex, what like the gas lighting
of the thing. Even when I worked with the Buccaneers,
the Buccaneers cheerleaders made fifty dollars a game like She.
Speaker 5 (56:18):
Also shared that they make millions of dollars off.
Speaker 7 (56:20):
Of the I know, like how they wanted to change
Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders who are their own entities, separate from
the cowboys, into a money making revenue stream and they
did Cowboys organization and they did and they did that,
and that does not materialize into anything for these girls.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
That is like, these women are working full time jobs,
full time jobs and also nurses. Withthodonnis, you are like marketing.
Speaker 7 (56:43):
Well rounded to even make this team because like, and
I don't think that they give enough credence to how
good of athletes they are, they are, how good of.
Speaker 5 (56:51):
Dancers they are. So many times in this insane.
Speaker 7 (56:54):
In the series that they're like, oh, well, they're not
necessarily the best dancers that make the team, And I'm like, okay, okay,
but your bar is set all the way up here
for these girls skills, yes, And then on top of that,
you want them to have, you know, a really impressive job.
You want them to come from really impressive backgrounds, to
have a really impressive story, to be gorgeous without a flaw,
(57:15):
without an ounce of body fat on them, and to
have curves in the right places that fill out They
literally say this uniform that hasn't changed in forty years.
Speaker 5 (57:24):
It was Oh bummer, she gained wait in her face, Yes,
oh pay these athletes what they will say.
Speaker 4 (57:30):
No, NFL cheerleaders make money.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
The DCC is different because they make millions of dollars
off of these women, all of them. Pay them. That
was such a bad so much more money. The documentary
was very well done, but such a bad loss, so
tone deaf, so bad. All right, we're gonna take a
quick break here, but when we come back, history has
been made in the w you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

but Alex posts a lot too, So do it.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
Rails today addicted. That's okay, okay, Let's talk about some
history that we're getting right now in the w NBA.
First of all, WA Rookie of the Year rankings are out,
and as expected, Caitlyn Clark is number one at minus
(59:20):
seven to fifty, Angel Rees at number two at plus
four fifty.
Speaker 5 (59:23):
But both of.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
These women are having incredible rookie seasons. Kaitlyn Clark posted
the first triple double by rookie in WNBA history, and
then after last.
Speaker 7 (59:36):
Night's game against the best team in the league. Yes,
I need like I need that context because.
Speaker 5 (59:41):
That seems that's insane.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
But she has two hundred and thirty two points scored
or assisted in her last five games. That is the
most in w NBA history through five games, Yes, the most.
And she kind of came out after the game and
spoke and said she's trying to pass and set up
her teammates so much that she's almost losing sight of
the basket sometimes and forgetting to shoot, which is crazy
(01:00:05):
that she's still involved and hitting all of these records.
With that being said, and then you have Angel Reese,
who made WNBA history when she recorded her fifteenth consecutive
double double.
Speaker 5 (01:00:17):
That streak ended, but that was nearly seventy percent of
her game.
Speaker 7 (01:00:21):
She is leading the league in rebounds. And these girls
are ten and eleven inefficiency rating in the entire league
right now.
Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
I mean, they are the future.
Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
They are living up to all of the hype and
Caitlin versus Reese, however.
Speaker 5 (01:00:36):
You want to look at it is great for the league.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Colin actually made a really good comparison on The Herd
this week, and I kind of loved it. He said,
it's one of the closer things we've had to the
Magic and Bird rival revives because it started in college,
it continued into the league. One run Wookie of the Year,
one won the Chip and it went back and forth
for years and for us in the league, I hope
(01:00:59):
that they have a similar path to that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Rivalries are good for any league. They're great for any league.
And I had the same thought about I think many
people have had the same part about Angel Rees and
Caitlyn Clark being the next Magic and Bird. But think
about what that rivalry then meant to the w or
to the NBA in the eighties. They completely revived the league.
It resulted in more money for players, It redefined certain
(01:01:22):
roles on the court. Like they they made the NBA
more entertaining, which broadened the audience for the NBA and
made it to what we now know today. What have
Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Clark done exact exactly that you know,
the girls are flying on chartered planes for their first time,
for the first time, which is insane.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Selling out arenas reaction televised games.
Speaker 7 (01:01:46):
Think about the tunnel fashion runways now that we have
and it's like those, but those are being posted on GQ,
They're being posted on mainstream sites where they were kind
of like niche before that that fashion. And honestly, Angel
Rees was right when she talked about this earlier this
season at the beginning of the season when she said,
people are going to look back on this time and
they're going to have her to thing for it too.
(01:02:08):
And I also want to make sure that I'm going
to say this again, this all doesn't happen if there
already isn't a good product in place. Angel Rees and
Caitlin Clark had brought eyeballs. Those eyeballs do not stay
unless there is something entertaining already there, and that is
what these women have been doing for so long. And
I'm so excited you know that this is being brought
(01:02:29):
into the mainstream. You and I talk about it every week.
Speaker 5 (01:02:31):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
I mean, so do like mainstream TV sports TV shows.
It's on A blocks, they're on B blocks, they are
top of show content. I mean, let the WNBA All
Star voting results kind of sink in for a second,
because Clark finished with the most votes ever with just
over seven hundred thousand, when last year's leading vote get
her was less than ninety six thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:02:55):
Times the amount of votes are coming in.
Speaker 5 (01:02:59):
Yes, it's a it's a great product. It's sports, just
like Serena and Venus.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
It's just sports, you guys, and its basketball because it's just.
Speaker 5 (01:03:09):
It's just sports. All right. Now, let's check in with
Martin Wise and see what's trending.
Speaker 4 (01:03:15):
Cool.
Speaker 13 (01:03:17):
You guys just touched on it already. Angel reached double
double streak ended at fifteen. Unfortunately, the Liberty lost.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
To the Sky.
Speaker 13 (01:03:23):
I mean sorry, I said the backwards. The Sky lost
to the Liberty. Liberty with the best record in WNBA
at twenty and five. The final score there eighty one
to sixty seven, so Brita I and ESQ had twenty
eight points.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
To lead all scorers.
Speaker 13 (01:03:35):
There's another w NBA game going on right now. It's
the Sparks and the Wings in the fourth quarter. They're
showing in a replay right now. Come, I'm just completely
unprepared for this.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
That's all right.
Speaker 4 (01:03:46):
We believe you can do hard things, hard thing.
Speaker 5 (01:03:50):
We believe in you.
Speaker 13 (01:03:52):
The Sparks eighty two to seventy seven lead over the
Wings with forty five seconds left in the game. So
that will be wrapping up shortly. We have a winner
at Wimbledon. Bora Bora Kray Chikova of the Czech for public,
how was that for a.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):

Speaker 13 (01:04:08):
Italy's Jasmine Paulini and Ladies singles six two two, six
sixty four. Tomorrow Novak Djokovic will be Carlos Alcaraz in
the men's final. Detroit scored five runs in the ninth
inning to tie the game, two more in the tenth
to win in extras off a Geo Irschello walkoff homer
eleven to nine. The final score Shohel Tani with a
second I'm sorry, his two hundredth home run.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
Of his career.
Speaker 13 (01:04:30):
Today Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, the Red Sox lead
the Royals five to nothing, Brewers five, Nationals one in
the fourth, Phillies with a four run lead over the
A's six to four, Yankees beating up on Baltimore six
to one in the fifth, the Marlins with a one
run lead over the Reds five to four fourth inning,
with the bases loaded there for Cincinnati. Cleveland to Tampa
(01:04:53):
Bay one in the fifth, and the Mets lead the
Rockies four to one in the fifth, Houston and Texas
one one, sixth inning, race bases loaded for the Rangers,
Denver Nuggets first round picked to Ron Holmes has suffered
a torm rde achilles in the Summer League. He's expected
to miss the rest of the upcoming season. That sticks
sticks Veterans. Veterans center Toazz Gibson has signed a one year,
(01:05:18):
three point three million dollar contract with the Hornets and Ladies.
I don't know if you guys smell that in the air,
but that's football coming. The rookies for the Baltimore Ravens
are reporting the training camp. The Ravens first team in
the NFL to start camp. The rest of the veterans
reporting July twentieth, The earliest day the veterans can report
July seventeenth, when the Texans are expecting the entire.
Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
Roster to report. Oh, Rachels back to.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
You guys, you did great, good job, Thank you, positive reformation.
Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
See there you go. You're wonderful.
Speaker 4 (01:05:46):
Rocked.
Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
They say that they say that the NFL summer is
six weeks, it's like maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
Three yeah, easily.
Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
Yeah, Like you get like.
Speaker 7 (01:05:54):
After Mini Caamp and you get through fourth of July,
and like all coaches and stuff are always like fourth
of July is eight that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
That's a lot.
Speaker 13 (01:06:00):
I think that's why, like there was a lot of
pushback when they were initially talking about changing the offseason
schedule because this is also times when kids are not
in school. So when are coaches ever supposed to see
their sons and daughters.
Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Yeah, they don't have families.
Speaker 7 (01:06:15):
But even if you covered the league too, I mean like, yeah,
you get like two three weeks off and then yeah,
you reckon.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
Sports are year round. Key Stwitt, All right, thank you, Martin.
You're listening to Fox Sports Saturday. Malex Curry here with
Carmen Vitale. We are broadcasting live from the Tirek dot
Com Studios in Los Angeles, and it is time for
our next guest. She's a reporter here in LA covering
all the teams. You've seen her work in the Sporting Tribute.
Lauren Jones, thanks for joining the show.
Speaker 8 (01:06:38):
Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited
to be on for the first time.
Speaker 5 (01:06:43):
Yeah, we love it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Let's get started with Brownie James because he got his
first NBA action in Summer League last night, and yeah,
a little underwhelming. Politely put it, what do you think
are realistic expectations for Brownie in the league.
Speaker 8 (01:07:00):
I had some time to really think about this and
and you know, I think what we have to consider
is that, you know, this guy, he's still nineteen years old,
so there's a lot of development and I think you
know that that can come over this time and especially
you know, in his early informative years. I'm sure you
know the clem's in a pedigree that he does and
(01:07:21):
having to deal with the pressures is not an easy feat.
But when I think about some of the types of
players that I could liken him to, I'd say, like,
because he has the defensive prowess and it's more of
like a role player, like a Bruce Brown or a
Lou Dorts. You know, some of these guys that may
not be the number one on their team, but they
(01:07:41):
contribute well to the team. They you know, are known
for their defensive prowess and you know, who knows he
might have a shot that develops and comes but early
on to see him go I believe it was oh
for twelve and the California Classic. Yeah, you know, I
don't think that that's really like, yeah, that's The flashes
(01:08:04):
I've seen on the defensive end are far more promising
in that sense.
Speaker 6 (01:08:07):
I guess you.
Speaker 7 (01:08:08):
Could say, yeah, I just I think that, you know,
he comes in obviously with these expectations because his father,
at one point or another was the greatest basketball player
in the league. Is he up there, has this longevity obviously,
wouldn't be there if you couldn't.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
You know, they're they're gonna play together. But what is
success then for Brownie James after all of this development? Like,
what is his ceiling? Is his ceiling his dad?
Speaker 8 (01:08:36):
No? Okay, well, yeah, I know, right right, Like.
Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
Putting it that way, you're like, oh god, yeah, oh
the pressure.
Speaker 8 (01:08:44):
No, yeah, that's I think that's unrealistic, you know, to
say that he's going to be like his dad, even
up to this point, especially considering even the health scare
that he had, you know, to start the season last
year was at USC Yes, I mean that's a serious,
you know, hard event and something to consider. You know.
(01:09:07):
I think about people like Chris Bosh who had to
you know, retire early as a result of you know,
a similar condition, and so who knows, you know, in
terms of health, how long he'll be in the league
and things of that nature. You know, not wishing wishing
the best for that, but I think in terms of
his feeling, uh, it's really, in my opinion, too early
(01:09:28):
to say, like we'll see this is obviously just the
summer league, and you know, let's say it's a learning curve.
I think, you know, and just just again and just
think he didn't even play a full season with USC,
so for him to get his kind of sea legs
and there is felt lack of a better term, even
though it's so hot out here, I don't know why
we use that. I think, uh, when and spending a
(01:09:52):
little bit of time in the G league, you know,
just to get a sense like his welcome to the
to the NBA for real, you know, those kind of
moments that I think it'll be a better sense of
you know, at that time we can evaluate really what
his true ceiling is. But I do see him being like,
you know, a solid role player, you know. I think
of like an Austin Rivers who spent you know a
(01:10:14):
lot of time in the league, but you know, his
dad had some degree, you know, and you know he
spent time. In difference, I don't think Brianni will be
a Laker for life. You know, will Lebron retire so
you know, maybe move on to other teams. So so
that's what I'm seeing as his kind of steiling is
a long term career, potentially borrowing any health scares or
(01:10:36):
or you know, issues, further issues there. But you know,
but but also there's not there's no way he's going
to be you know, Lebron. You know, there's there's that's
just unrealistic.
Speaker 5 (01:10:46):
Yeah, I'm with you, Aaron.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Now on the other side of the Lakers first round pick,
don't connect look NBA ready last night?
Speaker 5 (01:10:51):
What kind of impact will he have on this Lakers team?
Speaker 8 (01:10:55):
Well, I think you know, what do it call him
connect for?
Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
Yeah? I love it.
Speaker 7 (01:11:01):
I love that such a good like he has such
a good name for nicknames yea.
Speaker 8 (01:11:07):
Yeah, And I think he's connecting on all cylinders.
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
Yeah, we see what he did there.
Speaker 5 (01:11:15):
Here for all the time.
Speaker 8 (01:11:17):
Yes, absolutely. But I think one of the things that
stood out to me is just his his his IQ
was much higher than I expected. I West Conference Lay
of the Year for his school and things. So I
understand that, you know, he and there was a lot
of talk about how you know successful he is on
the offensive side, that he you know, can create his
(01:11:40):
own shop, that he can you know, when they start
to play with Lebron and ad that, you know, they'll
see spurts of him really being able to open the
floor for them on the offensive side and as an
additional threat there.
Speaker 6 (01:11:54):
But I was a surprise.
Speaker 8 (01:11:56):
I'm like, okay too. And the first i think it
was the first chore, like really, you know, coming out
swinging and first, especially for this to.
Speaker 10 (01:12:04):
Be his first Summer League.
Speaker 8 (01:12:06):
Oftentimes, even like some previous players that have done really well,
like the Max Prestias and you know Maxwell Lewis who
is on the team with him and calling Castleton, it
takes him a little bit of time to just but
you know, he was like, I got this, you know,
so I'm really excited to see, you know, how he
shapes up, how he fits into the team. I think
(01:12:26):
obviously coaching is a big question mark. They're in something
just like the Dynamics and with J. J. Reddick being
a first year head coach and bringing in a whole
new staff, but looking forward to seeing how they developed
him as well as Brownie. And it seems like that
at least from the press conference to the introductory press
(01:12:47):
conference that they had before Summer League started, and they're
both extremely mature and ready for the moment at least
like mentally, so you know, sometimes that's that's part of
the battle as well.
Speaker 7 (01:12:58):
Yeah, And speaking of the new coach, JJ Reddick we
played the sound earlier, calls himself a sicko, calls himself
a massacist. Uh, how much of his imprint is actually
going to be on this team and how much of
this is really Lebron pulling the strings in what could
be one of his last years in the league.
Speaker 8 (01:13:18):
This sounds like a rhetorical question to me, But.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
I wasn't anything there. I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 8 (01:13:25):
Lauren, but but you know, to be politically correct, I say,
you know, it's going to be a balance like with
all of the teams that Lebron has been on, and
you know, obviously he has a third reputation for you know,
going through many coaches over his ten years, the various
(01:13:48):
stuffs that he's made, whether it's uh, you know, Cleveland
or Miami or even Los Angeles. So I think with
that being said, good us to JJ getting hate and
introduced to the you know, bigger circus that is the Lakers. VI.
(01:14:09):
You know, I one of the things that I think
it was an extremely smart move for him is to
build his staff out with excuse me, assistant coaches and
to have the pedigree that that are winning coaches, you know,
and the head coach that have been winning head coaches
in this league and dealt with, you know, high profile stars.
(01:14:32):
I think that that was extremely poignant and smart on
his on his part. But dynamics are going to be interesting. Obviously,
Lebron is the coach, the d M, the vocal leader. Yeah,
he's a player coach and you know so I think
that this is a great way for him to kind of,
(01:14:52):
you know, not have to do so much vocally, to
just tell JJ you know, because they have that dynamic
and relationship. Might do a pod afterwards breaking down all
the players.
Speaker 5 (01:15:05):
They should do that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
Oh my god, I should do that.
Speaker 7 (01:15:08):
But can you imagine like when Lebron recovers and then
like they're like at that point, I don't know if
JJ Redix Gold are still going to be coaching. Maybe
he goes back to media and then they just like
have these tell all things.
Speaker 5 (01:15:17):
It's going to be crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
But that was my biggest question, Lauren, you hit on it.
Speaker 7 (01:15:20):
My biggest question about this team and JJ Redick staff
was JJ Redicks staff and if he infuses the staff
with experience, because I thought that was gonna be That's
crucial for any first time head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:15:29):
Need to happen. Yes, that was the only way this
is going to work. Yeah, Lauren, thank you so much
for joining us.
Speaker 8 (01:15:35):
Yeah still handy got let go. But you know we'll
see where he lands.
Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
Yeah, land somewhere.
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
The good ones always do they do.
Speaker 8 (01:15:43):
Lauren.
Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
That was great. Thank you for your insight. Have a
great weekend, a great season.
Speaker 8 (01:15:48):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 6 (01:15:49):
I appreciate you guys talk too.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
All right, when we come back, we got a one
more break and we have our feel good story of
the week. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back
to Fox Sports Saturday. I am Alex Curry here with
Carmen Vitally. We are broadcasting live from Attire dot Com
Studios in Los Angeles, and before we go, we always
like to leave you with our feel good story of
(01:16:11):
the week and this burner.
Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
This was Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
Steve Gleeson gave such uninspiring speech at the SP's this week.
Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
Let's just start with it.
Speaker 15 (01:16:22):
The truth is, no human is immune from fear or adversity,
not even super athletes, royal princes, or the Most Holy Saints.
Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
Considering this truth.
Speaker 15 (01:16:33):
Of our humanity, it's vital that we all individually and
collectively discover ways to be courageous and love the life.
Speaker 5 (01:16:42):
We have like words to live by right there.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
I love that he included Royal Princess and the camera Pandy.
Speaker 5 (01:16:49):
Well, yeah, because he was there.
Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
That was incredible.
Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
It was so good. Just to give you, guys.
Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
If you're not familiar with Steve Gleeson and his story,
here's a little background. He was a defensive back who
went undrafted in two thousand, ended up signing with the
Colts as a free agent before eventually signing with the
Saints practice squad. And on September twenty fifth, two thousand
and six, the night that the rebuilt Superdome hosted an
NFL game for the first time since Hurricane Katrina, Gleeson
(01:17:15):
famously blocked the ball off the foot of the Atlanta
punter and into the end zone for a Saints touchdown,
and in twenty twelve, the Saints mounted a nine foot
statue of that blocked punt outside of the Superdome, solidifying
his legacy as a symbol of New Orleans resilience after
the hurricane. Now Gleason went on to retire from football
in two thousand and eight and was diagnosed with ALS
(01:17:36):
in twenty eleven. Now, he and his wife have started
a nonprofit organization, Team Gleason to help improve the life
of those living with ALS by providing technology equipment.
Speaker 5 (01:17:47):
That supports their services.
Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
And it's like these eye tracking tech that allows individuals
like Gleason to communicate only using their eyes, as you
heard in his speech right there. In twenty eight teen,
the Steve Gleason Act was passed to ensure the availability
of these life sustaining communication devices, and in twenty twenty,
he became the first football player to receive the Congressional
Gold Medal, the highest honor awarded to civilians, for his
(01:18:13):
advocacy work for ALS.
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
So, I mean every step of the way.
Speaker 7 (01:18:17):
But it's so funny because obviously that was a huge
like his career was at the pinnacle in that with
that huge play for the Saints. It's obviously mortalized in
a statue and you think, oh my god, he overcame
adversity from being undrafted and this crazy career. Yeah, and
then you put it, it puts it all in perspective.
Then when he gets diagnosed with alis he it's twenty
twenty four. He has lived, yes, thirteen years since his
(01:18:40):
diagnosis when the doctors originally gave him.
Speaker 5 (01:18:42):
A couple of years.
Speaker 7 (01:18:43):
Yeah, that just puts everything into perspective and how this
guy has been about resilience and overcoming adversity for his
entire life two varying degrees.
Speaker 4 (01:18:53):
It's so inspired.
Speaker 7 (01:18:54):
It's exactly what the Arthur Ashe Award at the SP's
is made for. I was crying, sobbing like a little baby.
How were you not watching?
Speaker 5 (01:19:01):
How were you not?
Speaker 7 (01:19:02):
I mean you saw was it was mark Ingram. They
camera panned mark Ingram and he's crying. I mean, the
entire audience was in tears. Gets a standing ovation. He's
got his son up there with him.
Speaker 5 (01:19:13):
The awards, holding the award.
Speaker 4 (01:19:14):
And all the little hand on his shoulder every now
and again.
Speaker 7 (01:19:18):
Oh my god, Oh my god. If you guys haven't
watched it, honestly, I mean the clips are all over
social media, please go watch it. I mean, this was
one of the most impactful every Arthur ash speech. I
feel like is impactful because it's such an impactful award.
But I mean, to have Steve Gleason be up there
again with the tech that he helped develop, that he
helped distribute to people affected by als and for ever
(01:19:41):
everything he's done for this completely degenerative disease. Like the
speech itself was just it likened it back to you know,
like I just remember Stuart Scott's Arthur ash speech. Yes,
And I mean, like this is up there with one
of the best you've seen and the most moving.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
It's incredible, Like even just like talking about now I'm
like covered in, I'm like cover it's there were so
many good moments from that night, and we kind of
touched on the the Serena moments.
Speaker 5 (01:20:09):
She came with all of the jokes, like her writers.
Speaker 7 (01:20:15):
And her delivery though, like it's it's one thing to
have that written for you, but you have to go
out with her and deliver it.
Speaker 5 (01:20:20):
She danced, she was confident, She's like.
Speaker 4 (01:20:22):
So many outfit changes. Outfits were good, fire fire, yes.
Speaker 5 (01:20:26):
The Lebron like the Lebron comment, the Kendrick Lamar comment.
Speaker 8 (01:20:32):
Yea.
Speaker 4 (01:20:35):
I loved Quinta.
Speaker 7 (01:20:36):
Brenson just in the in the middle of her and
like I didn't realize how much taller Venus is and Serena,
Oh yeah. But then Quinta Brunson, who's like little, and
she's just in the middle, and she's like, yeah, that
was one of.
Speaker 5 (01:20:46):
My favorite shots. Like just leave us alone. You don't
need to.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
She said three words, and it was Yeah, it was
so good. Thank you so much for spending your Saturday
afternoon with us. Have a fun and safe rest of
your weekend. We'll see you next week, same time, same place, guys,
