(00:47):
Coming to do us live from Las Vegas and the
mobile tire rack dot com. Fox Sports Radio Student's our guy,
Ryan Hollins. How we doing, Ryan? I know it's been
a trying week. How you feeling this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Man? Brother? We are here. Man kind of survived the hurricane.
Hope all is well in Houston. My power just got
back on what yesterday the day before, and for all
those who were affected by it, my hearts and prayers
go out to it. It was my first hurricane and
the biggest thing was just you know, like losing power,
(01:20):
trees down, and I think the biggest thing that I
take from it was just really cool to see people
supporting and helping each other man, and there was some
good stuff going on in a tough situation. Hopefully everybody's
powers back up and the quicker we can get to
normal in Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, knock wood man, Yeah, it is always amazing, right,
as much as we quibble, and you have all sorts
of incidents. We had the one from yesterday involving former
President Trump on the campaign trail and all of that.
When we do have these circumstances, how well communities bond together.
Look Out who's got a generator, who's got a generator
(01:57):
big enough, who might have built one of the you know,
might have an extra fridge with a generator that they
can help us out. So all the best and if
you can contribute in any way possible the supplies, money,
all of those things, please do help as you can
to help them get back on their feet seeing you know,
still reports of large swaths of the city without power
(02:21):
as we speak, so you know the prayers and you know,
let's back that up with some action as we can.
But to your point, Ryan, yeah, it does bring out
the best of us humanity at its finest in those
kind of moments. At the Ryan Hollins is where you
find him. You find me over at Swollen Dome. We're
getting ready for championship Sunday, Wimbledon, the men's final here Ryan,
(02:44):
We're not gonna spend a lot of time here, but
because you know me, I like the price in disease.
I like watching the marketplaces work. What do you think
get in for this event? Was Alcarez, the youngster, you know,
the up and comer, trying to plant his flag amongst
the greats and start that trajectory versus Yokovic, who's tried
to just do whatever he can to be a WWE
(03:07):
character this last week. A lot of complaining when they
were cheering for his opponent. Rude, Oh you're booing me,
I know what you're doing. Ha ha. What do you
think get in for this one?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Is just to get in the door, Not like the
good teachers just saying, get in the door.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Literally, I just need the final upper deck corner seat.
What are we thinking at Wimbledon? Anybody else want to guess?
Y Ryan gets first shot.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Since you're throwing out, I'll say a grand, get the
door for a grand, Chris, I need that. A dollar.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
That's what it's worth, you buck, I like that, That's
what I'd be willing to pay. Okay, fair enough, eight hundred.
How about ten thousand, six hundred dollars, fellas what I'm good?
Ten thousand, six hundred dollars. So the next time you
can play about Super Bowl tickets for your team that
ain't been there for three decades. That's what you got
here at Wimbledon for this men's final. Right age and
(04:03):
history and championships and all of the legacy and Alcarez
on the come. So there you go. That we get
started with that. Later on we'll get into some of
the soccer prices because Fox a big day both for
the Euro twenty twenty four final and Copa America finals,
so that'll be fun. I'll be planted firmly on my
couch in between naps to watch those a little bit
(04:26):
later on. But you are in Vegas, home of the
Summer League and all of the fun and popping circumstance
and pageantry in between drinking gallons of water to try
to survive the oppressive one hundred and ten degree heat.
I hold up there, big man, What does it take
to keep a Ryan Hollins hydrated?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Oh that's a lot of water. I mean I can.
I can throw down, Mike. I don't know if you
remember in studio, I had like a somebody bet me
I couldn't drink like a five gallon or something. I
got about seventy five percent there can I can put
them down with the best of them when it comes
to drinking. Now. I laid an egg in my first
food eating competition, my hot dog competition. But as far
(05:09):
as the water, I didn't quite get the bet, but
I got the respect. I'll just say. I've been sitting
since Sunday without power. Came out to Vegas about Wednesday.
So just the fact that there's there's there's glimpses of
air conditioning.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
No, it's good. Yeah, No, all of those little creature
comforts that you take for granted, right, all of a
sudden it goes away for a day or two because
let's face it, summer's in Houston are not exactly the
Mother Nature's not kind to you, storm excluded, just in
terms of humidity and heat and all that fun stuff.
So you're already out of deficit there. So then you
go to the desert a Vegas, which I was there
(05:47):
briefly a little over a week ago. Yeah, that wasn't fun.
It was I was hiding under the misters and uh cover,
you know, being as pasty as I am, the sun
was not gonna be kind to me.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I will say, I had like a like a peasd
So even just going to like a ballet or hopping
in an uber, I'm just like.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Let's go, yeah, the hustle thing. Let's just get moving. Yeah, yeah,
we just don't need to be standing still. Well, I
bring up summer league and we'll get to the obligatory
Brownie James discussion as we go. But you know, the
other side of the coin, at least to start this
summer league is what's going on with your squad? And
(06:26):
we've been talking about it for a while. I talked
about it over the course of the season, just saying, well,
the Western Conferences is getting deeper and more competitive, and
a team that you need to watch potentially here to
rise up fairly quickly is your Houston Rockets. And now
you look at Cam Whitmore, you look at Reed Shepherd,
and all of a sudden, I think eyebrows have been raised.
(06:47):
Now it's summer League, so we take it all with
a little bit of a grain assault, but we take
what we can from it. When you see good habits
and what players are doing, you know, effort defensively, effort
and spacing and all of that. And I gotta say,
color me impressed at least with what we've seen here
in the early going.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Well, I think I was at the game yesterday. Those
two exceeded expectations. And the reason I say so is
just sometimes some of league can get a little wacky.
You know, guys haven't played in a while, they may
not be fresh. And I'll start with Reading Shepherd. I
felt like Read Shepherd. There are a lot of questions
about his size, but I qise toughness, kind of poised,
(07:28):
He knew where to be on the floor, He knocked
down tough shots, got guys the basketball. There's not one
moment he pressed and a lot of times for young players,
the biggest thing, Mike, you know what we talked about.
It's just pace, you know, swing down, act like you've
been there before. And I think that Reid really exceeded expectations.
(07:48):
And I'm looking at it at at a stacked Houston
Houston roster as far as depth wise, and I'm going, man,
that's a good problem to have. You know. You can
look over at like like a OKC or Boston, Boston,
you know, and you're seeing the way that teams are
winning in the NBA. It's like they've got depth going
ten to eleven deep. And you know, Boston ended up
doing that for a lion's share of the playoffs. So
(08:10):
the fact that Reed Shepherd can play, he's something unique
that the Rockets don't necessarily have. So I'm excited to
see what he does when he gets his shot on
the floor. But you know, he's a baller man. But
just to answer your question, I was more impressed with
the poison as far as Cam Whitmore comes out and
scores twenty points. You can go in the NBA. He
gets minutes, he's gonna score twenty points. He was. I mean,
(08:31):
his per minutes per minute execution was unbelievable. He's a
bucket And I like that Cam just stayed confident, man attacking,
He didn't care who was on the floor. He's the
same Cam Whitmore that we were able to see. But
you know, when you value and you evaluate guys, you say,
can you go and have that same level of production
(08:52):
wherever you are? And Cam Whitmore had that in the game.
So I was really excited to see the way those
guys went out and competed and the level that they
played at in that ball game against the excuse me,
the Laker Summer League. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
What's interesting is you know, talking about the scope and
scale right, big college programs for a lot of these guys,
these two in particular, when you look at it Ryan,
you know, so the pomp and circumstance from a young
age and pageantry. But I go back to what Anthony
Edwards was saying the other day, you know, coming off
of his his first run with the Olympic squad, was
(09:29):
that he still had the nerves right, and you hear
performers say, hey, I got the butterflies every once in
a while. But he went on in a little bit
of an expository, you know, kind of check of it all,
saying no, it's a bigger stage, like there's there's a
lot at stake here, a lot of expectations versus. And
this is the guy that's just played, you know, in
the Western Conference finals, right, this is the guy that
(09:50):
people started comparing to Michael Jordan. Yet he's still coming
out of this saying well, I'm kind of nervous. I mean,
part of it, I think probably owes to the fact
that he's playing alongside Lebron and Steph and yeah, you know,
you're trying, you know, to not well. And while you
may ruffle some feathers by saying hey, I'm the number
one option, you're still recognizing what you're around. But you know,
I think that's kind of, as you alluded to. For
(10:12):
Summer League, one of the biggest things to see. You know,
how quickly can you get to the heart rate of
a guy playing at a high stakes poker table to
where you're just flat and ready to play.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yeah, I got I got a chance to see that
Team USA game two. I was impressed more so with
the buying of the guys. It looked all business. And
sometimes when you're looking at culture, you're looking at the sidelines.
Those guys like each other. They're bought in, a lot
(10:44):
of high fives, a lot of excitement. You know something,
little man. You know, Lebron gets subbed out, he sprints
off the floor. Dude. You know he set the stage
of professionalism in that game. And you think about when
Kobe Bryant approached Team USA, it was like business, you know,
it wasn't you know, a day off for Hall Man.
I got to do this for the summertime. They looked really,
(11:07):
really good. And I don't know if we're gonna jump
out and compare it to the Dream Team and Team
things like that, but I guess you can say, hey,
you got you know, and older Kevin Durant and older
Lebron James. You got this Anthony Edwards coming around. You know,
he's a young talent. You got a Holliburton. You got
these young guys mixing in and Jason Tatums and it's
(11:27):
it's the Devin Bookers. It's a fun mix that we're watching.
So I think it's gonna be a really exciting Olympics.
But I just like the the little things being done right,
and Team USA is doing that so far. Man, And
you know, Canada was no slouch, and I thought they
handled that game pretty well, and especially for a first game.
You're normally looking ugly in the first game. But it
(11:50):
wasn't It wasn't bad basketball at all.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, most of that first quarter was fairly painful to watch.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Man.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
I was on aras that that tipped off, as like,
all right, we're moving in slow motion, so we can
talk more about Joel Embiid and adapting to officiating and
what's going on there. But you know, you mentioned Kevin Durant.
He's likely going to miss at least the Australia game
and this part of the war tune ups with the
calf injury, and you know, whenever, you know, we get
(12:16):
Durant or any of those players, we start getting recurrences
of the leg injuries. You know, I start doing a
little bit of handwringing and get a little bit fearful
of what that indicates. Right, we saw Kawhi Leonard have
to dip out and all the hysteria that that caused
along the way. You know, one of those players that
as he was named to the team, I think everybody
(12:36):
raised their hands like is he tried to do this?
Like the NFL Pro Bowl, So he gets credit for
being part team part of Team USA because he was
there for picture day and then he bowed out, So
he'll be on all the trading cards and everything before
you go.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
We well, I'm sure you know, at the end of
the day, you gotta like a big picture. I think
Kawhi had all intentions on playing. I think his mind
was there probably maybe the last shot he'd have at
going to the Olympics. Obviously talent wise, you know, that
would be putting the best talent on the floor. And
you know, his body just maybe wasn't there at that time.
(13:10):
And I and I think all of us raise an
eyebrow to say, hey, you know, you weren't able to
participate in play in the playoffs for your ball club,
but you're gonna try this. But you know, it's a
legacy at hand. And I think he gracefully just said, hey,
I don't think I got it, you know, give this
seat to somebody else. But I tried, and he he,
you know, he gave effort there. But obviously, because Kawhi
is so quiet, there's no statements, there's no anything. We're
(13:32):
left to guess, you know. But I think I am
pretty confident and sure he had the right intentions in
hand and he wants to be a part of something special.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
No question about it. I mentioned Durant before. He also
let the cat out of the bag on something pretty
big coming off a picture day. We'll do that a
little bit next hour. Something I touched down in the
in the course of the week with an all star
cast with Smith out on his holiday holiday holiday. He'll
be back in the chair with me on Monday as
we fill in for Cavino and Rich Mike Carman, Ryan
(14:00):
Hollins with you here. It's Fox Sports Sunday Live from
the Tirak dot com studios. Coming up next, We've got
to do the the Obligatory. I've already got a promo
running on it because I'm shouting into the wind. I
think against a bunch of other folks, but Jalen Brunson's contract,
Ryan Hollins has people up in arms. Let's discuss it
next here on Fox.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Fackrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
What you don't interrupting our promo?
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Let me put this listen to context. Shut up.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Folly and Toni Fusco
Show on I Heart Radio. Apple Podcasts. Ohereva you get
your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Yea, Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Sunday,
Mike Carmen alongside Ryan Hollins having a blast with you
this morning. Big Championship Day Soccer Euro twenty twenty four,
Copa America twenty twenty four. Here I mean getting after it,
a lot of finger pointing and anger in very specific spots.
(15:34):
You had the Euroguayan coach going after it. Now you
got the Columbia coach. He's mad for other reasons and
one of it is because of a famous recording artist
who'll be there a little bit later on today. We'll
get into that as the show goes on, and then
we've got the men's final at Wimbledon. As we discovered
in our opening to the show, you wanted to get
in it was ten six hundred dollars, also known as
(15:56):
the price of a decent used car. There you go, Rights,
there's your Sunday morning snow. We'll get into the price
in disease of hot dogs across Major League Baseball because
that's an important survey. We've got to watch your wallet
as we go through for ballpark Franks, but we also
do the wallet watching for all players and sports and
(16:16):
terrible news for some. For me, I shrug and go, well,
he just seems to be that guy, Jalen Brunson. He
signs this new deal and immediately everybody says, well, he
protected James Dolan, he looked out for James Dolan. How
about he looked out for himself and the continuity of
his squad and the fact that if he does what
(16:39):
he needs to And this is part of a promo
of me barking about it the other day, but you
are my NBA guy. So we revisit here. He's gonna
be eligible for three hundred and twenty three million dollars
in just a couple of years. If he waited until
next year, would have been to sixty nine. Leaves one
thirteen out there for now, but gives them the flexibility
(17:01):
because the dopey apron thing that they agreed to is
really restrictive on both sides to folks.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Yeah, well, hear this perspective of Brunson. Okay, Brunson was
the second round pick. He was slided from Dallas. You know,
they didn't in and off from what he was worth.
The Knicks from day one believed in him. Not only
did they believe in him, they hired his father.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
I was gonna say, there's a lot of family ties there.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Right, right, they hire his father on the staff. On
top of hiring his father on the staff, they go
out proactively and make moves for his boys, Like they
bring his boys in, Okay, Like they go get his
college championship teammates. And it's not just a match made
in heaven. When we're you know, speaking of bringing in
(17:53):
you know, superstars to the NBA, and you know, normally
the Lakers and Knicks and Celtics. They want the biggest
and best names, and they're like, nah, let's go get
your boys. Let's go get Josh Hart, Let's go get
Michel Bridges, Like, let's go and put your team, Devincenzo,
put your team back together. So I think Brunson's looking
(18:14):
at this and saying, man, it ain't even about basketball
at this point. And if I win in New York,
I'm gonna be untouchable. I'm gonna be untouchable. So and
I'm making a lot of money off the court. So
you know what, I'm grateful, and I'm gonna show you
how grateful you are because as a ballplayer, those people
that believe in you, in anything, and Mike, you know
(18:38):
this early in your career, that first person that believes
in you, you feel a sense of entitlement there all right,
shoot over here, Fox, Scott Shapiro, Scott is one of
the first. Scott and Don and those guys Ryan Howins.
We believe in you. We like you. No, no, no,
you got something. We roll with you. What you need
from me, even about even about not S's not about
(19:00):
the money. Don't get me wrong. Cards We're not doing that.
But Mike, Mike, am I wrong? Like from that angle,
like somebody that believes in you that from someone who
takes that angle, that's a discount your pops is on staff.
Some people fray away from that. You know, well when
you're when they hire your pops. I guess I don't
know this angle. Mike would throw this to you too?
(19:23):
Is it like reverse nepotism? Like the son does the
dad right?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
And you know, you know one of my unhinged rants
was against everybody that really got bent out of shape.
And we talked about it last week about the you know,
Brownie James to the Lakers thing. It's like how gen
Bus decided to do business. You're not the owner of
the Lakers. You can't have it where you appreciate loyalty, uh,
and how the the mom and pop organization runs. But
(19:50):
then they make this move and all of a sudden,
everything's wrong with the world for a guy they pick
at fifty fifth right, And you know what I challenged
everybody in our business to Ryan at that point is
no longer will you try to help people get internships.
No longer will you try to help someone get a
writing job, a producing job, a behind the scenes job,
(20:11):
not just you know, your friends and family, because that's
what people try to keep trying to, you know, trying
to limit it to family. No, it's anybody that you're
helping from a position of influence with your own success.
So you can't do that anymore. If that's your take
on Bronnie James and lebron James in that whole process. Likewise, here,
I think it's kind of funny if you can get
(20:31):
Dad on staff, get him a job, right, we talk
about the front office and all the family connections and histories,
and then just go back down to you know, a
guy like Thibodeau, he's a different kind of coach that
you got to play for, right, So you got to
figure out but I mean you got to figure out
players who are going to handle how he operates and
gives you the best opportunity to coalesce and come together.
(20:56):
Jalen Bruns have got more Maya Kulpa's I think this
year than any player I can remember in recent history.
Can you remember how many people bagged on the contract that
the Knicks gave him, which really wasn't that substantive in
the grand scheme When you started looking at where it
ranked amongst other you know, guards and contract length and
all of that stuff at the time, but all of
(21:17):
a sudden it became a wow, I grossly underestimated this
guy and heart and whatever it's like, which had been
on display. Now it just translated in a whole other level.
Even his old college coach was like, yeah, I didn't
think it would necessarily be this. And then you're on
the biggest stage. As you say, if he wins, he's
a legend. They have once at seventy three. Seventy three
the last time they were really relevant until this postseason,
(21:39):
and they started getting chipped off, kind of like a
Monty Python skit. You know, it's only a flesh round,
all right, next guy, I'll fight you. Come back here.
You chick in all of those things. I mean, we're
we're talking about the OJ Chase. I mean, that's that's
what we're talking about here. We're talking about ninety four,
the last time that as a team, other than you know,
(22:02):
just kind of being bloviators, that the Knicks were relevant
on a basketball surface. So, I mean, just a huge deal.
But you know, it did shine some more light on
this Players Association agreement and I'm a guy I get
into the weeds on this stuff. Ryan, I'm a bit
of a nerd, both for the nfl U and here
and what you agree to. And with Brunson's contract, it
(22:25):
was a lot of the handwringing of what he's doing
for James Dolan. You know, he looked at it from
a Brady Jeter go on down the line of guys
where maybe I'm feeling good about what I need to
but here's how I'm gonna win. And for the players,
you could say, well, you know, this is a screw
job because you know he sets president whatever, Like how
(22:46):
many players are gonna really leave one hundred and thirteen
million dollars there? I mean, legitimately, you're right, you're around
the league, you played in it for a decade. How
many guys are gonna take the chance about that extra year.
I gotta say, it's probably.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Not that large and age, it's rare, so it must
be done. Like we talked about, it's got to be
the loyalty aspect, because all I can think is, you know,
that's how san Antonio was able to kind of just
retool and keep their guys and and and buy in
and able to to win for so long, and obviously
the Knicks haven't had a championship. They're not San Antonio.
(23:20):
That's all that I can think of in that standpoint. Hey,
you know, people give Gilbert a lot of flak for
his controversy, but I remember, I think Gilbert did that
to make sure that Antoine Jamison could get signed and say, hey,
I'm gonna I'm gonna leave some m's on the table
so you can kind of keep this thing going. We
got something good, something good here. So it has happened before.
(23:41):
But yeah, Brunson's really young to be doing that, but
you can if you think about all the things we
listed and name before. I think he's saying, I want
to win. I want to win. I want to win
with my guys. This is this is all I asked for.
And you know what, every time I've come to the office,
you know, it's something or we've kind of negotiated something.
(24:04):
You guys have came to the table, come to the
table for me. So hey, here it goes in return.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Seems like a pretty good partnership as it stands. We've
seen other moves this off season that had to be
made because of the fear of that second apron highly restrictive.
I actually had it printed out the other day for
the show. Ryan. It was like seven pages long, because
you need to do a bunch of explanations of what
happens with draft picks and draft picks freezing, what your
(24:29):
penalties are if you're above the first apron with regard
to trades. Hey, I can't give you two twelve point
five million dollar guys for your twenty five million dollar guy,
like all of these different permutations. Hey, if you do
this and you're in this spot more than two years
or two years in a five year period, so you
go into year three, all right, your draft pick goes
(24:51):
to the back end of the first round automatically, no
matter how well you play. So there's all these different
parts to it. And for ownership, you know, there's their
side of it and putting in essentially a hard cap here, Ryan,
And for the player's side, Hey, you have to make
that decision trying to look into the crystal ball of
(25:13):
winning versus can I get the bag and go somewhere.
I want to now and force the issues, so you know,
we'll see if this sets a precedent where guys go
down this path. I know a lot was made of
Lebron James signing for a little less than the maximum,
because you know it kept them forty five thousand dollars
below that second Apron Ryan.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, no, that's see. But again, Lebron, you can almost
look at that money off set and say, well, you
just signed my son and so about what you signed
them for whatever, we'll do that.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Well, which is why people are saying, damn it, they
circumvented the salary cap room by giving him that guaranteed money.
It's still all in the family.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Keep it in the family.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Sing the theme song.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Go ahead, come on, Mike, am I wrong? Do someone
do something for your girls? What do they need? What
they need? You're helping them out. But that's it.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
It goes back to the same thing of all right,
what are your considerations now for Lebron? The larger story
is you know, the reports real or imagined, And I
don't know you can tell me whether you got a
better finger on the pulse of this of how much
less he was willing to play for to try to
attract another player, and nobody can versus Yeah, he was
(26:23):
gonna get his bag regardless, I.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Think for the right player, Lebron would have done it.
I mean, I think whether it's smoke, there's fire. I
don't think he said it for no reason. I think
for the right situation. If it really came down to, hey, Lebron,
I want to come, but there's not enough money there, like,
I think he would have waited to make it happen.
But I don't think those things or those talks went
(26:50):
went there. You know, they got there. I don't think
it got far enough. But Lebron understands like I need help,
you know, I need I need that third guy. Whatever
it may look like, I need help. We got we
gotta figure something out. And I just don't think it
worked out. And then in everything we're hearing and seeing
from like Clay Thomas, it seemed like Clay was kind
of set on Dallas because if work with Mike, I
(27:13):
know Mike well, and Clay would grew up a Lakers fan.
If he had a chance of being a Laker, that
would have been done sealed. So I think that there
was probably no question unless if it was just a
big a matter of money, that he was probably going
to Dallas to kind of, you know, continue to build
his own legacy and do his things at Golden State. Okay,
back then you didn't want me. You know, I'm hot.
They all owt me. You know, he wants to do Dallas,
(27:35):
and you know, I feel like if he was going
to be a Laker, this would have been the time
for Clay to be a Laker.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Sure. Yeah, some reports that Clay turned down two years
forty to stay in Golden with the with the worst
saying in Golden State just means in California, staying up
in the Bay Area with the Warriors. That he turned
that down felt disrespected, which is always tough, right. You know, again,
outside looking in, I can't look at a man's wallet
(28:01):
or you know, really understand fully his motivations because there's
going to be what he's talking about with his dad,
what he's talking about with his guys now ex teammates
all of that versus what we get publicly, and you
you know, have to try to color in the DNA
like we're in the Jurassic Park labs to try to
figure it out that you know, did how much In
(28:24):
the discussions from the Warriors side is look how much
you got when you didn't you couldn't play, and we
were loyalty then and we took care of you coming
off a big injury, et cetera. And now we're in
this next phase of trying to navigate the last throws
of Steph Draymond and what it is. And you know,
Steph coming out and saying, hey, I want to be
a warrior for life, but you never know, it is
(28:46):
a business. I thought was a nice little, you know,
the slight of hand to throw into the discussions as well,
maybe perhaps indicating he's a little less than pleased with
the fact that Clay is going to be a this year.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Yeah, man, it's here. Here's the thing too. In basketball,
like you with US or against US, I guess it
gets black and white, like especially when you're playing you
with US or against US, and as an athlete, you're
always looking for something to motivate you. You're looking for
something to drive you. And unfortunately, you know, when it
(29:24):
gets intertwined with business, sometimes clear heads, well a lot
of times clear heads don't necessarily prevail. And Clay felt
slighted and Golden State maybe felt like, hey, Clay, this
is your value that we see and he's like, dude,
you just paid Draymond. You know, Draymond's not a splash brother.
You know, you got to give me what he got,
(29:44):
you know, and they're probably.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
A year, four years, Yeah, it was his latest deal, and.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
They're probably like, no, we were not bought into that.
We're not comfortable with that, Clay, but we want to
work with you. We want you here. And like again,
cooler heads do not prevail for the most part when
you're the professional athletes are the most competitive people on
the planet. Okay, when I when I played, when I
was in it, it took me a while to get
(30:10):
past that mic. So I would see another player, a
contract or anything, and you just it's a driving force
of motivation. Every time you see somebody, you're sizing them up. Dude,
whether you're playing or not playing, you're seeing something and
you're getting your juices going, man, and it does not
turn off. It took a while. It took a while
(30:32):
for it to turn off too. And for me on
on in the media side, you have to turn it
off because I cannot give a fair take, a fair
assessment of something going on if I'm still in player mode.
I don't think you can, you know, just step back
into the game with a proper perspective. If you're always
seeing things through your own lens. So that was something
important for me. And it's funny, like, even you know,
(30:53):
I'm not doing Big three this year so far, but
when I kind of like got back and like played
Big three and did something competitive, it took two or
three games for me to even get competitive again because
I'm like, hey, I like you guys, I like everybody.
Then I got elbowed in the mouth. Then it's like etc. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Well but it's like you know, earlier in the Team
USA's first exhibition, it's like I wanted someone to have
one of those Kobe Bryant Paul Gasol moments. I size
you up and bam, I got you in the chest.
All right, here we go, game on, right, Let's set
the tone, set the mentality. Instead, it was like a
sluggish six minutes. I'm like, we're gonna play some basketball here, right,
(31:30):
We'll Y're gonna get into a little bit of flow.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Right, Dylan doesn't have the Kobe game, but Dylan pulled
a lot of those.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, he and Lebron were getting after it, and then
he certainly won the post game. Walking through all the interviews,
let's stay with Dylan Brooks and Lebron and the agitator
role in a minute. But first we got our guy,
Isaac lowing Bron on a Championship Sunday at Tilo Oh.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
Yes, good morning, fellas, and that's where we start. At
the men's singles final at Wimbledon and a remat of
last year's five center in which Carlos al Karaz defeated
Novak Djokovic and so far all all Karas.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
He leads the.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
First set over Novak Djokovic four games to one, Djokovic
seeking his eighth Wimbledon championship to ty Roger Federer's men's
record and seeking a record twenty fifth Grand Slam title.
In Major League Baseball, on Saturday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks
pounded the Toronto Blue Jays twelve to one. Corbin Carrol
two home runs and six RBI. Diamondbacks have one four
(32:31):
straight and ten of fourteen. Cardinals over the Cups five
to four to sweep a double header. And it is
also Championship Sunday. In soccer, first up at three pm
Eastern the final of Euro twenty twenty four between Spain
and England.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
We got some manilow in this morning. Back to you
ys at Isaac LOWI kraw where you had that. I'm
seeking the rights from Manilow to release that commercially. I
couldn't tell, though, Ryan your nemesis here Isaac lowankron whether
he was singing or if he was doing as so
many pop stars Mike lip syncing from my entertainment.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Wow, Well, I know one thing. He was dancing in studio.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
There's no question about it.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
You have a camera in here or something. Hollins has ours.
Has our frenemy situation devolved to the level that you're
spying on me.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Good morning. By the way, I don't consider you a
friend of me, Ilo, I'm I'm just a neutral party
to this. You know I'm a neutral party cause.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
I say, and you're the aggressor, buddy, Yeah, yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
I was hoping you'd notice the passive aggressiveness.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Matt Isaac lowan Crown where you find I'm at the
Ryan Hollins For Ryan, I'm Mike Harmet Fox Sports, Sonny.
We continue with one of the greatest agitators in the
NBA today, part of that Team Canada effort against Team USA.
And I gotta say, chippiness, I'm all for it. We'll
talk about it next round. Fox Great Eggs. Welcome back
in Fox Sports or radio the Fox Sports Sunday. Almost
(34:04):
got myself back into Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
Mode There, Ryan Hollins, No, it's Fox Sports Sunday. It's
a beautiful morning. We're up in that. I'm hopefully you
are too. Thanks for giving us a piece of your
your mind, your time, and maybe you're wagging your finger
at the radio for something we said. You can also
do it on Twitter at Swollendome at the Ryan Hollins.
(34:25):
We already did get a call saying you guys are
gonna do some Clark and Reese. I'm like, oh yeah,
we'll get that later. We got some NFL. You're in Vegas.
DeVante Adams seemingly has talked to everybody but me at
this point, Ryan Hollins. And because you're on the ground
in Vegas, you know, we got to ask you know
a lot of questions, super sleuthing of what you're finding
out around the summer league activity when you're not trying
(34:48):
to find respite from the heat, you know, walking through
casinos or hiding in your room. But we've talked about
Dylan Brooks and the chippiness he and Lebron James, so
we got a little taste of that back and forth.
He always strikes me as one of those guys that
and look, VEX teammates can tell the tale better than anybody,
(35:08):
some of the administrators and the people around, But always
strikes me as one of those guys that I don't
like him until he's on my squad. Right, aj Perzinski
is now one of my favorite White Sox players of
all time. When he was at Minnesota twin yeah, not
so much when Dennis Rodman was doing everything he could
to strangle Michael Jordan, not my favorite guy. Guess what,
(35:30):
he shows up in Chicago. He's hanging out, he's doing
book signings and running the town, and he's part of
the nWo. All of these things. I'm feeling pretty good
about it. Right, all of those kinds of iterations with
Dylan Brooks, I'm wondering if he isn't, you know, maybe
just a little bit less, but that same type of character.
But certainly Vex Lebron James right there. B from the
(35:53):
NBA certainly spilled over into international waters.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Yeah, no, man, they went at it, and I got
to take my hat off to Dylan in terms of
Team USA the game against Canada, because I'm gonna tell
you one thing. You know, you kind of talk about
how ugly the game was as it started, and you
saw Team USA kind of get get rolling and their
depth really kicked in their second unit. That was a
(36:19):
game of death by far easily.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Sure defensively, played really well down the stretch. Seemed like
they the communication got better, possession after possession.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
That game had the juice that it had because of Dylan.
There is no way at that time of year, early
on in an exhibition that Curry and Lebron and those
guys wanted to be playing that hard. You know that
early that was all Dylan Brooks and Canada. They just
(36:47):
didn't have a second unit to match up. And I mean,
my goodness, like USA second unit Anthony Edwards, Jason Datum, Halliburton,
Bam Autebio, and Anthony Davis, Oh my goodness. I mean, look,
if you're the Lost side, I don't want to get
off here. But if you're the Los Angeles Lakers and
you're looking at Anthony Davis the way him and Bam
out to buy it work together, you got to get
(37:07):
something comparable. Now, now, BAM's very much. I'm pretty sure
off the table to come and play with a d
But you got if you get something comparable there, Wow
that is that's that was fun to watch. But back
to Dylan Brooks man, I get the pleasure of working
with him all year and call calling the games and
watching him work. He just he just he changes the temple.
(37:27):
He changes everything. And you know, in my opinion, he
was the best player on the floor for Team Canada.
But he just brought the juice to the game and
you know, his edge, it just changes things and you
know you're not gonna go out and you know, if
you do have a chance to beat Team USA, let's
say that we're for some weird reason, we see that
matchup again, Uh, it's not gonna be by pretty and
(37:50):
oh we like USA. You guys are so good. It's like, no,
we got to go pound for pound. We gotta get muddy,
we got to get ugly. And I thought, just Dylan
did a just a spectacular And no, he's not everybody's
cup of tea. If you if you're not wearing a
Rockets or team candidates.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
No, that's it. The headlines are you know, in our business,
you know, hey, let's let's try to get you to
click click click click click. But you know, sorry, pest
act and whatever else. Like you figure out an angle
that's gonna maybe give you an advantage and take someone on,
you know, put them on tilt. Right, Lebron James compartmentalizes
pretty well. And again to your point, this was a
(38:26):
war of attrition, right, This was a battle.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Right.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
We see him Bead Fallout playing only twelve minutes and
over time you just had too much depth, even with
Canada loaded with NBA players. It's just we're talking about
different levels. We're working like Kramer on Seinfeld, I'm working
on levels Jerry, same kind of deal. So they're able
to pull away and you know, they they covered the
number for those of the you with betting interests and
(38:50):
all of that fun stuff. But for Dylan Brooks, you know, curious,
they're they're in Houston working with the younger guys like that.
That's where you know his true test comes. You know,
as we get ready for this next season talking again
about Whitmore and Shepherd and these guys coming along.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Yeah, no, and I'll even say, you know, when he
first got to Houston, a lot of people are like
fifty to fifty on Dylan Brooks. They weren't quite sure,
and as the season went on, it was like consensus,
we love Dylan Brooks, like we are all in. But
you know, he's the driving force, you know, top of
coach Im Doka. Just that it's really changed the culture
in Houston and like you know, like the Rockets are
(39:26):
going pound for pound with the league's best. He's the
one starting things up and spurning it and putting confidence
in those young guys. Man, his impact is never going
to be seen just on the ball floor.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
He's Ryan Hollins on Mike Carmon. It's Fox Sports Sunday. Here,
Fox Sports or Radio company from the Tirech dot Com,
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Now the curious case of the
week concerning Jalen Brown. He looked nice and comfortable on
the SP's red carpet, and he had to answer the
inevitable question. We'll get into it next year on Fox.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Greetings, Welcome in hour to the but the program here
on a beautiful Fox Sports Sunday by Carmon, Ryan Hollins,
with you having a blast as we get ready from
the tiraq dot com Fox Sports Radio studios for a
huge championship Sunday tire rack dot com. We'll help you
get there. Unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard
protection over ten thousand recommended in stallars tire iraq dot com.
(40:20):
The way tire buying should be. Ryan coming to us
live from Las Vegas covering Summer League action. Ready for
more his Houston Rockets, a couple of young stars getting
some headlines along the way, particularly when you vanquish and
dispatch the Los Angeles Lakers and unceremoniously as they did
(40:41):
the other night.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Ryan, Hey, it's good basketball man, good times. All is
well in the world, right.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Well, that's it, you know, in the end, we try
to find our refuge from some of the other headlines
and sports. You know, we try to keep it rained
in obviously, you know, everything we take it from the
larger world and a lot of concerns and discussions coming
along with safety the presidential campaign politics. Steve Kerr issued
(41:09):
his statement part of Team USA. Remember his father had
been assassinated years ago, so he spoke up about gun
violence today and then that's part of the larger landscape
and backdrop of what we've got going on today. But yes,
a lot of big games, final day of Major League
Baseball before the All Star break as well, Ryan, So
(41:32):
we got that going as we get ready on a
big Sunday. And one of the stories of the week,
and again being that you're so tapped in you're there
on site for Summer League and watching the Team USA work,
was the fact that Jalen Brown was not named as
the alternate when Kawhi Leonard withdrew that it became his
teammate Derek White. And then we start trying to parse
(41:53):
out reality versus, you know, maybe some of the tinfoil
hat conspiracies in our head. What's real, what's imagined? Jalen
Brown was asked about it on the as part of
the Spies of coverage earlier this week.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
How does it feel to have support from so many
NBA fans?
Speaker 2 (42:12):
I think that you should be on teenius.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
It feels great to have support and one day I'll
share my steart. People don't have the all the information
in the world that they would like to know. It
just feels great to be here at the SP's and
to be holding up to Larry.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
O'Brien, there you go, get back in. I'm still champ.
You can't take that away. Kind of like Jason Tatum
did every turn he could get just saying, Hey, I'm elite.
Now I've got a ring, leave me alone. So for
Jalen Brown, it becomes the curiosity of cycling through what parts,
if you were to create a giant pie ryan, of
(42:43):
what parts of the decision making whatever grand Hill said
in that very extended halftime interview in their exhibition opener
all the way through, because Jalen Brown immediately started going, Hey, Nike,
I get what this is about.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Right.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
He wears Nike shoes, covers up logos during the year,
all of those things, once upon a time had another
shoe agreement, doesn't have one now. So it's those kind
of discussion points that we're getting into. So it's the
trying to realize fit team structure all of those things
against business interests and to try to categorically dismiss the
(43:21):
business interest I think is foolhardy and disingenuous, but to
also make that be all to end all for everybody disingenuous.
So when he says I got a story, I don't
know how much else is there. I don't know how
many more layers there are to it, but somewhere in
between is where the truth lies.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, yeah, listen again, we don't ultimately know. But if
I'm stepping back and you know my opinions there, they
may say, hey, Jalen Brown, we know Derek White, if
he plays or doesn't play, he'll be ready. Excuse me.
I know he's had Team USA, Derek White, and I'm
pretty sure experience all you know before, and so is
Jalen Brown. But you know, Derek White, they not see
(44:01):
a minute or maybe scarce and that maybe they were
nervous that Jay would Jalen Brown be willing to step
into that role. Maybe it could have been basketball wise.
I don't know if there are things off the court.
I know Team USA probably maybe wants to stay out
of controversy. You know, it could be that, you know,
it could be a number of angles, and then you know,
sometimes you got to be patient because you got to
(44:24):
keep in mind there are other guys who left off.
And I'm sure when Kevin Durant's done doing Team USA,
and you know Lebron as old as he is, Hey,
jb maybe right, right, there next up, they're gonna be
calling them, They're gonna be there's gonna be no option
but to have them on the team. So I think,
I just I hate when all these things end up
(44:46):
going public, you know, and it's nothing different than what
athletes say behind the scenes or you know, Mike, we
talked about this segment before of just finding, you know,
something to motivate you, something to keep that chip on
your shoulder. So I you don't like what it goes public,
but I am interested to see. But you know, when
you're putting a team together, and Team USA has done
(45:06):
a good job so far, it is tough. And then
for Jalen Brown especially, You're going I was Finals MVP.
You took three of my three out of the four
of us, and I'm the one missing. What's going on?
This has to feel personal? This has to feel like
a slight There's something going on here. You know, there's
(45:26):
four of us and somehow I'm the missing one. So
one steps away and can't make it and I'm still
not placed in Again, I was a Finals MVP. What
more do I need to do? So?
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Who our Team USA kept him off? Ryan? That's it?
Which guy doesn't like Jalen Brown, is it Jason Tatum
himself because he was really uncomfortable and he was asked
about it the other day. Obviously, I'm going for the
hard hitting. Let me see if I can go a
few good men and get you to do a Jack
Nicholson response to me there. But the reality is, you know, somewhere,
(45:58):
you know, little bits of truth are parsed out and
it's always going to be public, right. I mean, look,
people are still griping about the omission of Caitlin Clark
from the US women's national team. We'll get to see
it in the All Star Game that they'll play, right,
the WNBA All Stars against Team USA. But it's that
type of thing of all right, well, here's earned for
(46:20):
Caitlin clarko as well. She hasn't been around, she didn't
get to practice, whatever. There's a lot of basketball reasons.
And again, having your training camp while the NCUBLEA season
is still going on doesn't really give any of those
young women or the men for that matter, while they're
doing it a chance. But for the NBA, it's just
kind of understood, there's a head nod. These guys will
eventually come to work. Whereas Team USA. On the other side,
(46:43):
for the women, they were working while the NC DOUBLEA
Tournament was still going on, so couldn't participate, couldn't get
those reps, continuity, all of that stuff. So trying to
figure out, now, how you push forward for that, you know,
and with Jalen Brown, it becomes the all right, what
business enterprise team or coach on Team USA didn't like it?
(47:04):
Or you know, looking over at Derek White, who might
you know, behind the scenes be his best friend, you
know in the Jason Smith Mike Harmon lexicon of Our
Evening Show. But for the purpose of this, he's looking
around going I've got all the accolades, but Derek White, defender, shooter,
all of those things team fit and to your point
(47:25):
of being off the bench, you just have to be ready.
Not that he's a bench guy, but he's been there,
He's played that role. That's not something Jalen Brown has done.
And you know, you think about egos, pecking order, whatever,
and trying to parse through that and wondering how much
of a concern there was there. But it's it makes
for a good subplot. And look for Team USA basketball,
(47:46):
normally they're overrun by swimming and gymnastics, so at least
for a little bit they're getting their run.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Yeah, you know, and and again too, you know, the
one thing with team he would say, just I just
really like, you know, from being at the game, the
continuity that we were able to see, I think the
good energy is there and it's tough. Man. Again, as
a competitor, Jalen Brown should have every right to want
to be there. Again, he was finals in MB to
feel like he was slighted, and you know, you know
(48:14):
one is one his opportunity there. Man, there's there's always
going to be someone that feels that way. And the
answer what you said earlier, everything I'm here man, that
him and Jason Taylor there are like buddies. There's there's
no controverts.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
So everybody tried to them up all last year.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Yeah yeah, no, I've just I would just say from
everything even I've heard even more so in depth here
at Summer League, it's just that those guys are tight.
There's no there's no like dissension is like nothing not
even close but between them, so uh, it's it's definitely
not that. But you know, hey, you can understand the
fit because again, Derek White may not see a minute,
(48:53):
he may not play, you know, and and and he's
a guy that has proved that I'll be fourth fifth option,
and like really really like it's been a long time
since I've probably seen a guy play Derek White's role
in the fourth or fifth option and be as good
and as precise and tight as he was for the
Celtics this season. I don't know how many guys I
(49:15):
can name that can play that role, not third option,
like like fourth fifth option. And he hooped.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
He's Ryan Hollins up Mike Carbon here at Fox Sports Radio,

this Wimbledon's Men's Championship. Alcarez up four two second set,
(50:30):
took the first set down six to two. We got
soccer later on today. So many sporting outlets for you
to well take whatever list you have and put it
off to the side, or just decide you're gonna hide
from the temperatures outside. I actually saw thunder. I heard
thunder saw lightning. How dumb am I? I heard thunder
saw lightning as I was coming into the Southern California offices.
(50:54):
I was told in song Ryan Hollins, it never rains
in Southern California, but it looks like it might be
a brewin this morning.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
Oh my God, stop it, dude.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
Oh, I mean, you know, the weather app says mostly sunny,
mostly sonny now, so it's all right. So it was
an instant thing at like four point thirty this morning,
So I'm glad to hear that.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
To be fair, we are in a studio with absolutely
no clear cut windows.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
No, that's fair too. I mean we we can completely
lie about what's what's outside. I used to like watching
the people walk past the uh, the studio windows, Ryan Hollins. Uh,
when it was, you know, a last call at the bar,
when I would be here in the middle of the night.
Was always a fun little adventure in sidelight.
Speaker 3 (51:37):
Don't you want to be with the windows anymore?
Speaker 2 (51:39):
Well, they moved to our studio where we don't have windows.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
We moved to the.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
I don't have that much clout, buddy. Once it got
rolling that way, I mean, it wasn't me anymore. And
it's a nicer studio. It's a much n much nicer studio,
all right, that's to be determined. I don't have windows.
I feel locked in. But to that point, yes, I mean,
I've got a bunch of monitors in front of me.
I've got some shiny lights I just need a little
(52:05):
bit of makeup to touch up my shiny forehead and
perhaps will be a little bit better. But one of
the things that I guess has to be glossed over
and maybe put some lipstick out a pig is the
situation going on there with the Las Vegas Raiders and
one Devantae Adams, who really went all out to promote
his appearance on the show Receiver that's showing up on Netflix.
(52:26):
We've got another story out of that series coming up
a little bit, and Chris Purfet's the perfect guy to
have on our ones and twos for that today, because
you know we're talking Detroit and i'man Ross Saint Brown.
A couple of stories from him. One injury one, Hey,
how do you get yourself motivated? And how do you
rally through a long grind of an NFL game? We'll
tell you how his dad tells him to get himself ready.
(52:48):
But for Devanta Adams, you know there's clips of him
wearing out Jimmy Garoppolo on the sideline. If he's going
to keep throwing the ball like this, I'm gonna get killed.
Or if he keeps throwing like this, I gotta get
up out of here if he's still the guy on
the field. Talking about this year's quarterbacks, Aidan O'Connell and
Garner Minshew stating a slight preference for O'Connell at this point.
(53:11):
But let's hear from Devanta Adams himself.
Speaker 7 (53:16):
Life, I've never been hit this many times in my career.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Every game I get.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
But yeah, so for devout da Adams, Like, there's the audio,
you know, bleeped out. You can fill in the blanks
and we can play that like a like a t
hang Man or whatever if we need to. But it's
just the idea of dissatisfaction with scheme quarterback operational efficiency.
And look, he was spoiled, right Aaron Rodgers for all
(53:47):
of his shortcomings and playoffs, some of the stuff he
says off the field, and whatever you feel about all
of that, is one of the most efficient quarterbacks we've
seen over the last twenty years. So you leave that situation,
you go to Derek Carr, guy you are really comfortable with.
That's your college guy. You get a year with him,
and then he's gone, and now you're looking around wondering
(54:10):
what's next. You know, Owing to some of the conversations
we were having with Jalen Brun said about you know, continuity, loyalty,
team building, et cetera. A man feeling like he's on
the island. And eventually, I think he's going to finally
in between all of these cries for help, he's just
going to raise the hand and say I need out.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
Yeah, And for these stars to get moved, you know,
they got to show out. You gotta be demonstrative. I'm not,
you know, a big fan of it. I wish things
would happen, you know, behind the scenes said that earlier,
but I'm not a huge fan of it. But it's
tough because this is the only way he's he's probably
going to get out of this situations to the point
(54:52):
where they say he can't come back. We don't want
him to come back, you know. And he was the big,
big move and the Raiders went all in. But from
receiver standpoint, yeah, you cannot throw the back the football
to yourself. And these public rants are just saying, look like,
I want to get back with Aaron Rodgers. They're not
being shy about it. And he's really looking to force
(55:12):
the hands of the other Raiders right now. And we've
seen this trend in sports. You know the NBA hate thing.
Jimmy Butler, you know, did it? James Harden did it? Uh?
You know Jalen Ramsey in the NFL kind of figured out. Okay,
I just got to be demonstrative and I'll get out.
I'll you know, hey, I'll have that lower back injury
and the reason I'll give you the tip, the reason
(55:33):
guys don't show up on an X ray. Don't show up, baby,
don't show up. Okay, around, you're not telling I've been
around this business.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
I know how this works.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Defonte may have a lower back injury coming in the camp.
You know, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (55:46):
You're the type of guy that says, my lower back
is killing me.
Speaker 3 (55:50):
Drift. I'm serious. I'm sitting here working. I'm not a
lower back injury guy. I give I was going to
pull that card. I wouldn't beat here.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
Oh, I was just reciting some old ll Cool j lyrics.
Oh I like that because the ladies do love cool
James little.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Humble brag right there. I'm proud of my hard work.
I'm glad I'm here here for this. Hey, you're all
Sunday guy.
Speaker 2 (56:09):
Mean, ten years in the league, playing in the Big
Three and still getting after. I see the weight you're
putting up, you know, more humble brags up on your
on your Instagram and everything else. Don't don't kid yourself.
We watch now. I'm pretty impressed, man, I do want
to I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (56:27):
But I appreciate that. Let me ask you this, Mike, Yeah,
if DeVante Adams gets moved they reunite with the Jets,
can we no longer make excuses for Aaron Rodgers? Are
we now? You know? Starting up? Because everybody when he
moved there to the Jets, Oh, the defense is so great.
Now they got Aaron Rodgers. These are the super Bowl champs.
(56:49):
Look out great, the Jets are going to be Like
DeVante Adams gets moved, Jets got pieces and the Raiders
do this. How much pressure gets put on Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Well that's the thing, right, It should have been there
for a very long time, right. That Super Bowl win
is miles in the past. Try everybody with the Sean
Payton super genius. I get it. He was part of
our team for a bit. Well he's not anymore. He's
back in the coaching sphere, and we could be real
about it. It was him. Drew Brees a system that worked,
(57:20):
and you roll through that super Bowl long time ago.
Let's see what you got now in Denver for Aaron Rodgers,
a lot of great regular season success. And I was
on this bend, like you can go find audio clips
in our podcast for years on this. And it wasn't
just bitter Bears guy because he owned us during the season. No,
in the end, he got his won super Bowl. The
Bears laid down at the end of a season, they
(57:42):
got into the playoffs, got hot, and that was the
end of it. They end up beating Pittsburgh in the
super Bowl in a way it goes. But you know,
I harbor no bitterness there of the regular season ownership
or whatever. It's just brass tacks. Let's get down to
business in the playoffs. I still don't think he got
enough to for the loss to Brady in the Bucks
(58:03):
when he came off the field without questioning it, without
being demonstrative, without saying blank you we're staying on the field,
leave that field goal kicker on the side, and you
left the door open for Tom Brady to come back
and beat you when you had the opportunity to put
the dagger in him. So you know some of that.
I think he's gotten a free pass, and I don't
think it was until he really became that much more
(58:26):
outspoken about the vaccine and presidential elections and politics in general.
Then all of a sudden it became a little more
fair game, it seemed in our larger media sphere to
go at Rogers, And eventually it trickled down to his
football and the arguments that I've been making for years
on that regard. But I don't think it was until well,
(58:49):
he's just become a guy that outside of Green Bay,
being frustrated with threats of retirement and everything that. You know,
he got a pretty free pass because he was so
winning MVP awards in the regular season. Yeah, so I
think this is the year. If they were able to
pull that off, I mean, good for them. I'm always
in favor. If a player wants out, let's not dance
(59:11):
around it. Let's not have the anonymous sources telling me
that he's upset and malcontented. Nah, the hell with it,
do it like James Harden did.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
I'm done, And you know what, I obviously completely different situations. No,
DeVante Adams definitely an NBA center and a receiver complete
way different. But for myself, similarly, there was a big
difference playing with the point guard who could not distribute
(59:41):
and pass and kind of look for you to get
you the ball and versus the ones who could. So
later in my career, at a certain point, I saw
the difference in my play and the way I was
viewed by who was getting me the basketball. So you know,
for myself, I was demanding, like, hey man, I want
to play with with great point guards, and I was blessed.
(01:00:02):
I want to play at Rajon Rondo and and Chris
Paul and Mike Conley and those guys, because I knew
if I was open, the ball would be coming my
way and I was gonna be in better positions that
would make me look good. So I get it from
Devonte especially in the NFL. Man, if you get the
one complaint you hear from him is like, I never
(01:00:23):
been hit like this. I'm vulnerable. You know that if
that quarterback can't get you the ball in time or
he leads you into a hit, man, it's it's it's ugly, dude,
and that's their safety on the line. So saying I
agree with what's going on or the way it said
but oh yeah, he's he's got a case. That's that's
a thing. So I think he's I think if if
(01:00:44):
he's not moved from the Raiders, and remember I said,
this man, he's going to escalate and make this even
worse man. Until they give him that handshake dealer, they
agree that, you know he'll be moved. I think he
gets even even louder. And you got to assume that
probably since he became a Raider through there, that you
know those talks were there. Yeah again, like you said,
(01:01:05):
you trade away car and the moves aren't made to
support him, to make him feel more comfortable. So he's
over it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
And you've got a couple of big players. I mean
you look at that defensive line and the type of
player you got in Crosby as your base, and you
know to see that I hate to say the wasted time,
but the potential is there that Yeah, it comes through
where he's not playing a lot of meaningful football laid
into the season, and I know they had spells where
(01:01:33):
they played pretty well, but the consistency certainly isn't there
to try to try to push forward. I mean, look
at the one of the NBA moves that comes through
what san Antonio did bringing in Chris Paul to come
work with Victor winbin Yama. Yes, how much better are
you gonna be when you got a guy that you
know can come in and give you the lobs and
get you the spacing that you need. Right, all about
(01:01:55):
the anticipatory thing. Paul may be slowing down, but the
brain's still there and they to make a pass is
still there even if some of the other stuff starts
to dissipate a bit.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
Yeah, speaking of Max Crobsey, I could saw Max Crosby
in summer league yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
There you go, see he's a hooper out and about
did you go in, Uh, say you want to play
me one on one? Did you go leave our ball
on him?
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
You know what? Basketball players don't like to play football
players in basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
I gotta imagine I understand why.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
It's not a it's not like a fun deal. Like
it's not you know.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
Yeah, those low post battles probably not so much fun.
Uh And pretty soon you're talking about maybe a little
soreness in the lower back. How about that?
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
Yeah, it's like a Mikey It's like it's like a
bad interview. You know, you want to interview certain people.
I don't know it'll pass.
Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
Sometimes you can see it coming. Sometimes you know, you
have to pull the ripcord after three or four questions.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
Yeah, your safety might be at hand, you know, but
it grosspeaks out some hops though. Man, good dude, great dude. Man,
fun fun stuff. Man, I got a photo with them.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Just share the photo with you to go fun at
summer league, and then you'll get back on the weight
bench and uh get the next road to stroll with.
Ryan Hollins.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Oh gosh, hey man, you put.
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
It out there. I mean it's for the public consumption.
Maybe it's a motivational thing for people, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Morning. I appreciate your support. Man. You're kind of like
you're like Mike Dolan. You know, Day one had my
back always down, open door, come on the show. My
theme song plays.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
You know, we gotta have you.
Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
Maybe I'm not your best friend, but I'm like, come
with your friend. It's my friends I got.
Speaker 2 (01:03:30):
Ryan Hollins. Yeah, yeah, there's no question about it. At
the Ryan Hollins where you find it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
You like that you're my Dolan?
Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
You like that I could do with that. Do I
get all the land and property that runs through that,
because that would be.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Even greater if I could, I would.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
I appreciate you. See, if we can get three wishes
going as we can, Hey, I want to turn our
attention back to tam Usa. Sit here in Vegas. Someone
let the cat out of the bag, out about something
really big. But first let's go to Isaac Lowancron. Let's
get an update on Wimbledon final and so much more.
Speaker 6 (01:04:03):
Yeah, Carlos al Karaz is totally dominating Novak Djokovic right now.
He took the first set six to two in the
men's singles final at Wimbledon Mike and Ryan And here's
how the second set concluded, just moments ago on Wimbledon Radio.
Speaker 8 (01:04:18):
Set point Carlos Alkaraz for two sets to love. Lady
crumpulls the rocket of Novak Djokovic. This is a quite
extraordinary performance so far. He's two thirds of the way
al Karaz to retaining his title. He's well on track.
Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
He has played superbly.
Speaker 8 (01:04:34):
He leads Novak Djokovic two sets to love, six to two,
six to two.
Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
Right now, Djokovic leads the third set over al Karaz,
one game to none. In Major League Baseball on Saturday night,
the Arizona Diamondbacks blew out the Toronto Blue Jays twelve
to one. Corbyn Carrol two home run six RBI Diamondbacks
on a four game winning streak. They won ten of
fourteen Cardinals over the Cubs five to four to sweep
a doubleheader and a big day and a big night
(01:05:00):
in soccer tonight in Miami at eight pm Eastern it's
the final of Copa America between Argentina and Columbia.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
Up first.
Speaker 6 (01:05:10):
At three pm Eastern time, the final of Euro twenty
twenty four between Spain and England and Mike and Ryan.
Video has just emerged of England fans outside the stadium
attempting to drive a tiny car with two enormous kegs
of beer on the roof, only going to have both
(01:05:32):
kegs of beer fall off the roof and into the streets.
Hopefully their play will be a little more graceful later today.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Back to you, Jess. Because the containers dented doesn't mean
it's not still good. See there's my analogy for the
human condition. Our exteriors may be a little bit dented,
but we're still good. He's Isaac Lohancron at Isaac Lowancrod
where you find them on Twitter. Now we've got a
guy that I once thought was really tall, who the
cat out of the bag that you know, maybe he's
(01:06:01):
not always cracked up to be. And I've got to
go take a long walk on the beach to figure out,
you know, what's reality because it's all been twisted after
this comment. Is there some huge controversy about you being
a lot taller than six ' ten with this Team
USA photo shoot that happened?
Speaker 5 (01:06:18):
Have you seen this?
Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
No?
Speaker 9 (01:06:20):
No, lot of I guess those guys might be shorter
than what they're what their numbers say. I'm six nine, though,
so it looks like Bam out of Bio is probably
six ' eight, yeah, instead of six ' ten, and
ad is probably six ' nine. You know, so they
probably adding a little more in their height. Well, I'm
keeping minds at the same you know, I'm not lying
about my height.
Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
You look just as tall as Embiid and he's listed
at seven feet. So you're saying those guys are all lying?
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Uh really?
Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Yeah, he's not seven feet.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Yeah up at Adams Show, Kay Adams. Uh, there's the question.
I was always told Kevin Durant was pushing seven feet
here Ryan Hollins. Now I have to wonder, are you
really measuring up at seven feet? Because I mean it's
gonna change our entire relationship. Have you been lying to
me like everybody has about Durant for so long?
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
All right? You ready for the context on this Kevin
Durant contacts.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Man, We're getting deep.
Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
Kevin Durant may not be seven feet He might be
closer to seven to one. When I stand next to KD.
We're I If not, he may be even taller. Why
does he do this? Why would he do this? What
in our generation coming up, what do they do to
guys that are seven feet tall going to the post?
(01:07:36):
Going to the post? Go shoot a jump hook, don't
step out and shoot a jumper. But as long as
he was six ' nine, he got to play on
the wing handle to basketball. And he's arguably the most
talented scorer. He's arguably the most talented score that it's
ever played the game of basketball. Now, there was somebody
else who did it who was clearly seven foot one,
(01:07:56):
and there's no contest there. And his name is Kevin Garnett.
Have a garden that And I spoke with KG about this.
Hey man, hold on cave. You're way tall, not just taller,
way taller than I am young, and I do not
want to get put in the posts. They're not gonna
let me play the three or the four. If I
am seven feet tall, then do what I think KG
(01:08:16):
didn't want to do it deservedly so is play the five.
There was no reason for him to be in that position.
So some of these guys are these freaks of nature.
What do they do? They are going to twist their height.
You know, it is the reverse. You know a lot
of time my five foot eleven Brotherren I'm not calling
anybody out, my five foot eleven brother, and they end
(01:08:40):
up being six feet tall and six ' one on
their driver's license. I'm not calling out, no names. You
know who you are. But this is the reverse where
these guys don't want to get put in the posts
because their skill and their footwork and they want to
be at the wing. They want to be at the elbows.
They don't want to be down there playing the five.
Nobody wants to do that dirty work. So that's why
(01:09:00):
Kevin Durant is saying, I'm six foot nine and I'm
not all as seven feet seven to one and I'm
telling you I played against Katie standing next to each other.
You know what. You know what, Mike, I might send
you a video of me walking with Kevin Durant and
you'll see clearly Kevin Durant is your height, if not taller.
Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Yeah, I mean, I just have to put it this way, buddy,
is the I'm five foot nothing. I'm a fire plug
of a man, you know, at by five seven. So
anybody that gets past, you know, six feet is a giant.
So differentiating between six nine and seven feet for me
and gonna be it. And I get your point when
you get to Kevin Garnett, you get to Kevin Durant.
(01:09:40):
Guys from a different era, right our era. Yeah, when
we're talking about a further rear view mirror in terms
of their careers to where yeah, seven feet that would
have been the expectation. It's not really what we expect anymore.
We hope they can do it. We anticipate that if
we need you to do what we can. I mean,
(01:10:03):
I guess it begets the question like what's ad because
he doesn't want to play the five either.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Eighty six nine, sixteen, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
So like just going down that highway right, because for
all these years, the measurements on NBA players when you're
tall have been like WWF superstars. That guy six ' nine,
he's really not. He's like six three. But compared to
that other guy he's wrestling, who's lightning fast and jumping
around the turnbuckles, who's all of five foot nothing, he
looks like a monster. And that's kind of you know,
(01:10:33):
for NBA purposes, everybody's tall. Now we're just kind of
separating it out. But him saying he was only six nine,
I'm like, like, part of the legend of Kevin Durant
was that he was the six eleven seven foot guy.
And if he's trying to, you know, dismiss that at
the back end of his career, I don't think it
helps him.
Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
Yeah, we just well, no, he's he's certified. I mean,
he could tell people he's six foot five with his
bag and the things that he's been heaving.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
No, no, no, But I'm just saying, like, for me, from perspective,
he was that much of a like and it takes
nothing away from the accomplishment it's actually on the field.
It's my just perception of this was supposed to be
a guy that was six eleven, seven foot doing it.
And if he's going to try to say he's sixty nine,
how's that help him. We got a lot of six
nine guys that can do on some level what he's
been able to do. But at seven foot he was
(01:11:19):
just that much different as the slim Reaper. And he's
kind of diminishing that to me by telling me he's shorter.
Is he's not that old to be shrinked yet?
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Ryan Hollins, Why do you think when Golden State claimed
to be putting out a small ball lineup, it wasn't
really a small ball lineup. The Hampton's five, we're tearing
down a lot, right, I'm tearing it all down, tearing
it down to and you had seven feet and six '
eight on the floor. That's a regular NBA roster, right,
and then six seven sixty seven liv In Seniggo Dollar, Curry, Clay,
(01:11:50):
whoever was out there. Yeah, yeah, sorry, the Hampton's five
was a normal roster. It wasn't really small ball. It
was just really good players out there. I just to.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Disappointed. I'm selling all my Kevin Durant trading card interests
just like that. He's Ryan Hollins I'm my car, but
it's Fox Sports Sunday here. Fox Sports Radio podcast will
go up and I'll have that our executive producer after
we finish a little over an hour from now. We help.
We hope you download it, rate it, review it. Tell
me how insane I sound off of some of these rants.
(01:12:24):
I appreciate it, good, bad, indifferent. We just need your
feedback to keep the line moving, aggressive expansion, to steal
from the dark night as we continue across the globe.
Coming up next, we go back into Price in Disease.
We talked about this Wimbledon final, and right now, if
I paid ten two hundred dollars to get in there,
I either have to be really happy that Alcarez is
dominating or I'm salty that Yokovic spent his week complaining
(01:12:49):
instead of getting ready for this match. We'll do that,
but we've got a hot dog in disease and pricing
for two other big events, including a coach mad about
the circumstances of his match. We'll tell you all about
it next on Fox Oh, come on in Fox Sports
Sunday continues Mike Harmon alongside Ryan Hollins. We're having a
blast live fromthetirac dot com studios. And as we continue here,
(01:13:12):
coming up in about ten minutes, we'll get into the
double double controversy. It's to no, not how many in
and out burgers Harmon's gonna consume later on this afternoon
while watching soccer all over the place. No, there's I
gotta get the big man's opinion on these kind of things,
because well he's kind of a smart guy and he
knows the motivations of folks along the way. So we'll
(01:13:35):
get into that. But found this thing about the price
indices as related to hot dogs at Major League ballparks
and talking about the disparity and the depending where you are,
how much we're we're looking at the difference. Right when
you're in Canada, you can get something and like I
(01:13:58):
guess we got to do the conversion rates and everything
of that nature. But you have about a three dollars
hot dog. But then you start getting into the other
places around for say you're in Chicago, say you go
to New York. Now you're getting that sticker shock as
(01:14:20):
you go through that, you know, and if you're a
Costco member, you know the old dollar fifty you know
deal that still remains despite the price inflation on pretty
much everything else. Ryan Hollins, i'mout a big hot dog guy.
I had a bad experience when I was a kid
to where my my lips blew up.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
I used to uh a lot of fillers, I guess,
and those dogs they were trying to feed a lot
of people at a family barbecue and it went to
hell pretty quickly there. So so you got that going
for you. So you know, doing the conversion, you actually
get Toronto. Uh comes in at about five fifty to
six dollars US. But the most expensive is actually the
(01:15:04):
Oakland A's. We get nobody in the ballpark, nobody wants
to see our product. Yet the average price of a
hot dog going into Oakland is eight dollars at thirty
nine cents. Ooh, how about that? This is a survey
I've done and reiterated for this. Yeah, exactly. For the Angels,
it was eight bucks. At the cheaper end of things,
(01:15:26):
you got the Diamondbacks, Marlins, Twins, and Braves all in
that four dollars territory with the Royals and the Mariners.
And I just thought it was an interesting kind of
run because and it was really kind of prompted, I
saw it float in my timeline. And then we've got
to place Chicago Boston owned, but Chicago staple called Portillo's
(01:15:47):
that has an outpost down towards Disneyland here in southern California.
And she was trying to lobby my older daughter, Hey,
you know what, I'll drive. You'll be tired from work.
You can nap in the car because forty minute drive whatever, like,
you don't want a hot dog that bad. And the
answer was yes, So that might be part of my
post show plans. But that's when it started getting to
(01:16:09):
me when you start thinking about what it costs to
go out and it is in line with you know,
prices raised everywhere else. Now, the other thing that we're
keeping an eye on Copa America later on tonight, you know,
all games televised on Fox, of course, but we had
the Columbian coach he is salty because he was going
(01:16:30):
off on the fact that with Shakira being the halftime act,
that the halftime has to extend. Ryan Hollins in your career,
when you have an extra performance, an extra little you
know thing, when say we're talking about the playoffs during
the clipped run, how does that go over in a
locker room when suddenly those routines get disrupted.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Can't stand it, you know, before the game, you know
culture kind of alert a hates a national game or
in the playoffs they're gonna add a little extra time.
And can't stand it though, because you get cold. It
changes your routine. You're you know, you're a creature of habit,
but you get used to it. Probably the worst thing
(01:17:14):
I've ever seen. It wasn't in the NBA, but it was.
It was the Drew League, playing in the Drew League Championship.
And don't get me wrong, I do it all over
again in the same exact way. And Kobe Bean Bryant
comes in the building. I love me some Kobe, but
Kobe shut the game down for about a good old,
good old felt like thirty minutes to an hour man
(01:17:37):
when he walked in and came in to kind of
watch the game and the game change. But you know,
this wasn't like a Kobe walk in, get that standing
ovation and sit down like this was like a like
it completely just stopped.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
Every everybody's staring like it's even the players are just gawking.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
Oh, it felt like the game the game felt like
an eternity. I mean probably the long this basketball game
I ever played in. And then you know, Drew League.
I'm like playing the whole game. I don't even know
if I checked out, So like at some point, I'm like,
this is not a ball game. This is a workout.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
Now, you gotta get back practice.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
Now you're laying down while everybody's you know, bowing down
to Kobe Bryant because you got to stretch back out. Yeah,
I get it informed again.
Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
And if I could do it all again, we do
it the same way. Shout out being man, really really
miss him. But yes, anytime you add in extra time, uh,
that's that's tough to deal with, you know it is
you get cold, and you know, I get it. There's
a business behind. There's money to it. And you know,
for those who don't know, for the national games versus
the just the the regularly regularly scheduled games, there's extended timeouts.
(01:18:43):
Was hey, just so you know it's a national game,
the timeouts are longer, about thirty seconds longer to get
the ads in. And that's the way these guys get paid.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
You gotta get paid. Eleven year, seventy six billion dollars,
Ryan Allins, not complain. I wish you were about five
years younger now.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
You know what, you know, it's fun. I say this
the other day, you know it, was doing the rookie
Transition program and got a chance to speak to all
the rookies and you just kind of joked that, man,
I'm excited you guys are getting paid. I wish I
was there, but I'm sure all the older, you know,
legends in the room were probably looking at my paycheck
(01:19:17):
and going, are you kidding? Met? Ryan Hollins made how much?
Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
That's it? Right? That's it. Every generation blames the one before.
There you go getting a little mic in the mechanics
and Argentina Columbia. Later on tonight get in Price thirteen
one hundred dollars if you want to go see MESSI
get after it one more time and Shakira for that
halftime show. He's Ryan Hollins. I'm by Carmen coming up
(01:19:41):
next to Controversy, the last couple of games played by
the Sky and the double double record, the Rookie of
the Year. It's chaos in the WNBA.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Greetings and welcome in final hour of the program for
this a beautiful Fox Sports broadcasting live from the tirerac
dot com studios. Tirerac dot com will help you get
there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has
a protection over ten thousand recommended installars tire act dot Com.
The way tire buying should be. How you holding up
over there, Ryan Hollins holding Vegas down for us today?
(01:20:18):
Are you getting in on that mirage progressive payout that's
got to do where you just plant your ass in
a seat, play a couple of nickels and hope that
it pays out.
Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
Really you did tell me about this?
Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
Oh yeah, no, So they're they're closing up shop, right,
This is a big deal, right, the Circus La Love
Show that was there for eighteen years, it's done. It's
starting to be the final final calls here. Eventually it's
transitioning back to the Hard Rock Hotel after was once
a Vegas mainstay, will be again. Look forward to return
visit there at some point. But yeah, they by Nevada law,
(01:20:52):
they've got to pay out this progressive jackpot and they're
doing it creatively with you know, drawing. You know you're
playing and then you put your your name in and
maybe you get chosen. You gotta be on the floor,
these all these rules to it. If you don't answer
within five minutes, next man up or woman up in
terms of who gets that portion of the prize. But
what they had were a bunch of folks just sitting
(01:21:14):
in front of the slot machines and hanging around, just
thinking suddenly money was going to fall from the sky
for them.
Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
So the way you said, that's how I felt.
Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
No, No, you got to play. I mean you gotta
be actively, you know, playing on a machine. That doesn't
mean you got to go and burn through your life
savings and bleed through on a slow bleed for hours
at a time. But you need to have demonstrated that
you were actually part of the gaming activity, as opposed
to a lookie lou who just wandered in from any
(01:21:46):
part unknown to get a WWE old wrestling kind of
reference in parts unknown Wait unknown, Yeah, wow, six million.
You could try to get your run in there in
Las Vegas, as well as covering some Summer League action.
We'll get back into that. Some other stories still on
(01:22:06):
the table for us as we cleaned up our final
hour of the program here, but we'd be remiss. We
had a caller earlier, and it's hot button topic, you know,
time and and time again. You know, because you've got
the camps divided, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Now we're
talking about the rookie of the year. The odds are
still decidedly Caitlyn Clark either minus seven hundred or minus
(01:22:28):
eight hundred, depending on where you're shopping. So a prohibitive
favorite in that regard. But you look at Angel Reese
and what she's been able to do for the Chicago Sky,
averaging thirteen point five points twelve rebounds a game. Got
I gotta ask. I can't fault a good strategy, right,
You got a streak going that's being acknowledged, and you know,
people are maybe putting a little different tone and respect
(01:22:51):
on your name because of the double double. She went
Ricky Davis the other day in a game that they
were Yeah, I'm gonna say, I don't know if anybody
else had the guts to do it, I'm doing it. Yeah,
I want or Russell Westbrook a few times the questionable
tenth rebound or whatever, you know, where teammates in position
and kind of lays off all right, you got that
(01:23:12):
one Russ and away we go. But it's the she
did that against the Dream where they've got a lead,
that it's dribbled the ball out and you're done. Instead,
she's in the low post calling for it like it's
a minute into the game. Let's go, let's go, gets filed,
a couple of file shots, gets to her double double
on the point side. Then you have the liberty. She's
(01:23:34):
able to extend it one more time. Problem is they
get the liberty again, and the liberty at the end
of the game, we're having none of it. To the
point where you had three and four defenders as they
did everything they could defeed Angel Reese the basketball in
the final minute. She actually blew a wide open layup
and bounced it off the back of the rim instead
of using that nice little box that they draw up
(01:23:56):
there for you to go glass or you know, finger
role go George Gervinu. But the Liberty said, oh, hell no,
it stops with us. So we're gonna put that in
our bag for the year. But any problem with the
stat padding, I'm all for it. If it's gonna get
me over, I'll be the villain.
Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
If if you put your work in and it's available.
I don't mind a little extra, you know what I'm saying, Like, like,
if you put in your work, you played hard, you
dive on the floor, you do that, and you're close,
I don't mind it. You know I've seen it. Hey,
(01:24:35):
it happens both ways. You know, it's still entertainment. It's
it's it's fun. It's saw it in Houston a bit.
And you know, from a coaching standpoint, it can go
far away with a player, because sometimes it's just if
you look good, you feel good, you play good. It's
all part of the energy. Jalen Green, I think Washington
he was he was on, he was close to forty,
and he may kind of left him in and let
(01:24:57):
him kind of like get a three up, get close
to getting that forty er. I forget what it was
one of those games, but he may did it. But
it's kind of like a vote of confidence. And then
the rest of the team's like, no, man, get your numbers.
Remember Kevin Porter, shout out, Kevin Porter's back with the
Clippers now, and he was going for a triple double.
And he gets the triple double because the guys let
(01:25:19):
the ball bounce and it goes to him. It was
like tip to him, bobbled and then I think the
league came back and rescinded the rebound. But what I
love is the competitive nature from the liberty side to say, nah, man,
you ain't getting this on us. It ain't happening.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Well, but she had her chance, right, She had a
wide open layup that she missed. And then when they
tried to feed her the ball one more time, they
said nope.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
No, no, no. Integrity of the game, no no, no, no, no.
It means something you ain't getting on it. I mean,
we'd say this in the locker. We know a guy
had a street going or he's rolling, and you know,
you take pride in being a good defensive team just
in general, just saying you're not getting your numbers versusus.
Know you're you're not getting you know, whatever it is
you're known for. Not today. You know we play against
(01:26:06):
Dwight Howards. You have a no dunk rule. Grab him,
tackle him, do not let him get dunks.
Speaker 7 (01:26:11):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:26:11):
You know when he played, Hey, three prolific three point shooter.
You know, like now the great greats ain't you ain't
taking it away? You're like, hey, Kobe. We we ain't
stopping you. We just don't want you to get hot.
We want you to have to work for it. But
in the sense with angel Rees, yeah, of course she's
stat Patton throwing that thing off the backboard, getting them
double doubles. She's smart. Man. That IQ was there and
(01:26:33):
and the game is there also. But I like it
from the competitive side, like you ain't getting your numbers, man,
that's the uh, the integrity of the game kicking in
and just not against us, no, even in the loss,
not against us. We don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Well unless you're the Raptors and they let Kobe go
for eighty one.
Speaker 3 (01:26:51):
They didn't the whole time.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Where was the second guy?
Speaker 3 (01:26:56):
I talked to Charlie villan Dueva. Okay, the game plan
in the first half was see if he can do it,
see if he can beat us. Raptors are actually winning.
He told me this, We talked about this, had him
on the podcast. He said, in second half, we're doubling him,
running guys out them. There's nothing you could do at
a certain point, but you had never seen that guy.
(01:27:18):
Just say forget the rest of the team. I would
go get numbers. And he said as the game organically
went on. It was like, yo, he's not gonna stop.
What Kobe did is not normal. But you know, you're right,
that will be a strategy sometimes because you have guys
who are good passes, and what you do is when
you double team. See this is the other side of it.
(01:27:39):
When you double team, you give up open shots and
you also give up rebounds because you can't get bodies
on bodies on the rebounds. So you know, if a
guy can fizzle out, it works. Kobe wouldn't fizzle out.
Speaker 2 (01:27:51):
Thought his elbow was gonna fly into the third deck
or suddenly was wagon. I mean, you know the guy
was in shape. You weren't gonna suddenly fatigue him. Sit
people thuckets are coming that easy.
Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
A lot of people don't have that mentality though, you
know at a certain point, like they're over it. I
remember or for instance, you know, first time it ever happened.
You know, we were playing against the Knicks, Jason's Knicks,
and this is when Raymond Felton was there and Tyson
Chandler Raymond former team of an excellent lob thower, you know,
(01:28:22):
and the game plan was like no lobs of Tyson
Chandler stay home on the three and make Raymond Felton
shoot floaters, and like, we end up beating the next
I think Carmelo. Carmelo was on it take to we
end up beating the Knicks because it was like Raymond
just keeps shooting floaters and he was such a good,
you know, playmaker. He wanted to hit those corner threes.
(01:28:43):
He wanted the lob the Tyson you know, he wanted
to go out and make those plays. But because we
took it away, it just it didn't work.
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
I like that we were able to get Tyson Chandler
and Raymond Felton into a show. Here did we get
some some twenty twenty four in the middle of us
a year right there? You can you tube, But these
guys were big deals. Tyson Chandler once upon a time,
very high draft pick. And we'll leave you that where
it is because that brings up bad memories of a
(01:29:12):
tough time for my franchise. Of course, since nineteen ninety eight,
it's pretty much a tough franchise run for me in
Chicago there, Ryan Hollins, no question about it. But I mean,
let's parse it down. I mean, Caitlin Clark, we see
the flash, We see the sizzle, turnovers pile up, some
of that teammates, some of that a bit aggressive and
sometimes just in the lane losing her handle and getting
(01:29:35):
a little bit of careless with the basketball for Angel
Reese grinding it out. We talk about points and rebounds,
and everybody's starting to run the stats of how much
more effective for winning higher assist total is and whatever else.
But I gotta say I and I were having this
conversation a bit earlier about Angel Reese, and it's like
she starts putting together a little bit of a jump shot.
(01:29:58):
You got trouble, and you got to someone who's going to,
you know, really start pushing that next level of stardom.
Not just all right, here's the rivalry with Clark hero's villains,
whichever your perspective is on that side of the lens.
But also for those that want to dismiss the double double,
you start adding a little bit more of a jump shot,
(01:30:18):
and you know, all of those criticisms go by the
wayside pretty quick, and you put some more respect on
her name.
Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
Yeah. Well, here's the thing. People that understand why Angel
reach She's probably closer to Draymond than anything I don't
say this with any any due respect.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
No, Yeah, it's an analogy we've made. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:30:35):
Absolutely, Yeah, she's a winner. Her IQ was really really high,
and she she yet like understands the media, you know,
and she'll she'll poke at you. She's fiery, she'll she'll
stir some stuff up. She's not afraid to speak her mind.
But she's a winner. She also under should Hey, I
got this little double double thing going. You know, I'm
a pad some stats, miss some layups, you know, get
(01:30:57):
it off the backboard, pat it's it myself a few times,
and you know, I'll get a double double. I'll be
I'll be in these conversations, these national conversations. But her intelligence, Man's,
she's a winner. She's a piece of a championship. And
you're right, she develops that jumper. You got to jump
up on her. And she's an athlete. She'll get around.
You should be at the rim. But you know, shout
(01:31:17):
out to Angel Reese. Man. I like what she's doing.
But I think people kind of gloss over the success
that she's had. She's the reason because of it, you know,
her attitude, and that's where I'm kind of drawing those
Draymond Winner. Comparisons like that stuff in Golden State don't
happen without Draymond.
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
And whatever the secret sauces they've figured out as a team,
coaching staff, whatever. Kennedy Carter, who's had issues at other
stops in her WNBA career, is playing really good basketball
as well. But for Angel Rees Caitland Clark, the hard
part for me, Ryan, and it's the hot take nonsense
of our sports radio and television world, is most of
(01:31:54):
the arguments are disingenuous. Right we get into the all
right stat padding verse is you know, dismissing just piling
up ten rebounds and yeah, she's not scoring thirty at night.
But on the Caitlin Clark side, it's like, if you
want to go to turnovers, great, they're not very good teams, right.
Indiana is one game ahead of the Sky ten wins
(01:32:18):
versus nine, So not a lot of differentiation going on there.
But you know what, if it keeps the flames alive
and people talking about the WNBA as we are here,
then mission accomplished. As long as we can keep it
actually talking about basketball and the acumen thereof He's Ryan Hollins.
I'm by Carmen here Fox Sports Sunday would be remiss.
(01:32:40):
It's been very strained set forty eight hours. You've got
the outside world, you know, outside of our little sports bubble,
but now it's permeated it. Isaac had the update Jacoby Jones,
super Bowl hero, a guy that folks remember as a returner,
as a receiver, passing away at the age of forty.
No details as have yet this morning. One of the
(01:33:02):
first notifications I got. And our guy Arnie Spanier up
and listening as well. Shannon Doherty nine O two one oh,
she was fifty three long bout with cancer. We don't
know the circumstances of Jones yet. And then yesterday Richard Simmons,
doctor Ruth and the attempted assassination. Is where we're at
with what happened with former President Trump as we wait
(01:33:23):
for more details. There just a wild world. Just to
remind you all to grab a little tighter, call the
folks in your life, and even if it's just to say,
let's complain about the middle relief of our favorite baseball team,
just to check in on him, because you'd never know.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Yeah, yeah, no, you definitely got to take care of people,
and you know, be patient and yeah, there's just a
lot going on right now, to say the least.
Speaker 2 (01:33:50):
Yeah, it's a lot to process. We'll await further details
on Jacoby Jones that coming off of the Baltimore Sun
a little earlier this morning. Isaac at the Date desk
for the rest of the hour. He'll be sure to
apprise us of any further information as it becomes available.
He's Ryan. I'm Mike at the Ryan Hollins at Swollen
(01:34:10):
Dome is where you find us in the Twitter verse,
and I've avoided it long enough. We got to go
back and revisit the Brownie James first couple of runs
here in Summer League. But also something his dad told
the Today Show while doing his media rounds for the
men's national team, which I think is going to be
a curious case study to watch this year. That's next
on Fox. Hey, welcome back in It's Fox Sports Sunday,
(01:34:34):
Fox Sports Radio. Mike Carmon alongside Ryan Hollins here atthe
tirerac dot Com Studios Championship Day. We've got Alkarez trying
to finish off Yokovic here at the Wimbledon's Men's Final.
And then we've got a full day of soccer on Fox,
with the Euro twenty twenty four and Copa America finals
later on today. A lot of good soccer action plenty.
(01:34:58):
In Summer League Major League Baseball final day before the
All Star Break, Aaron Judge up to thirty four home runs.
Who knew all it took was the GM going down
and flying down to Tampa and the owner being present
for them to suddenly, you know, crack the whip and
start playing baseball again. But Aaron Judge on a run
that we'll probably need to pay attention to in terms
(01:35:20):
of those historic fun runs that we've seen him go
on before, you know. Shortly after the show, the podcast
goes up. If you missed Eddie Today's show, be sure
to check it out. Search Fox Sports Radio wherever you
get your podcasts. Be sure to follow, rate and review
the podcast. Search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your
podcast Look for Fox Sports Weekends, Fox Sports Sunday, Hollins
and Harmon. You'll see the show posted by our guy
(01:35:43):
Ian right after we get off the air. Ryan Hollins,
you're there in Vegas. How much oxygen does Lebron James
take out of the room.
Speaker 3 (01:35:55):
He fills the room with oxygen. Man, he makes a
big time. Let me tell you to a matter of perspective,
it is you're you're right, You're right for one well,
especially you're in Vegas. At the Team USA. It's a
very Laker heavy, very Los Angeles, uh you know crowd.
So no, they're yeah, they're a big time too for
(01:36:17):
Brownni and for Lebron. But man, the more I kind
of watched Team USA, I didn't really realize how iconic
it was. This. This is probably the most star studded
kind of like like put together team. You know, Team
USA is seen in a while since it was like Wade, Carmelo, Lebron,
(01:36:40):
it was the Banana boat crew Bosh or they kind
of you know, teamed up for the heat deal. But
like you got Lebron and Curry and KD leading the starters,
and then Joel and Beide the most dominant big in
the league. I'll see the most dominant Yo kich is
the most polished. Okay, don't want to have that debate.
And then you know you got Anti Edwards off the
(01:37:00):
bench with Tatum World Championship, Tatum and out of Baio
in those guys, I'm excited for USA basketball man. But
again it's it's Lebron making that commitment to be there.
He definitely he makes this thing special. But he definitely
brought the juice to Vegas.
Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
Well, but that's the thing, right, playing those extra hard
in some of those timeouts. We saw the workouts before
the game with Anthony Edwards working on their time and
and just he and Steph Curry look like little kids
when they're being interviewed or talking to each other, which
is great to see. I mean, I met it for
the AX. Like the rest of the guys, I mean
they're all all stars and heavyweights in their own right, right,
(01:37:37):
you just went down the roster full of them, you know,
heavyweight contenders. But compared to Lebron, it's like, yeah, they
go ask him more questions. Like the greatest thing that
he could have is Brownie being there, showing up to
the Summer League while they were still there before they
left for Abu Dhabi, which again Steph Curry's reaction to
(01:37:58):
seeing a guy standing there with a falcon or a
hawk or whatever the hell I had on his arm
was pretty cool as well. Did you think all these
guys so globally known and have done all these trips
on behalf of the companies they work with, and just
general travel for their own edification and relaxation. That there's
still those things that bring out those wide eyed kid moments.
(01:38:20):
It's still pretty cool to me. So I kind of
dig that.
Speaker 3 (01:38:24):
Yeah, No, it's fun. A lot of good like I said,
a lot of good energy here going on in Vegas.
But like again, Mike at my wrong, Like this is
like I think one of those special moments for Team
USA is you might not get back. You know, you're
gonna have to remember this is this run here.
Speaker 2 (01:38:40):
Well, and let's it right, you go back to nineteen
ninety two when they all came together. You had all
of the legends and just like this team, you know,
the gradients of the up and comers, the old guard,
you know, the final throws, magic and bird, et cetera.
You know they played a while longer, but you know
they weren't the same guys. Jordan was just getting into
(01:39:04):
his run. You look at David Robinson, all of those
ad Christian Laitner, who I think had a pretty underrated
NBA career overall. It's not his fault he was drafted third.
But you know, when it's all said and done. You know,
you've got that where the rest of the world's basketball
hadn't developed, So these guys become even that much larger
because you know the competition has gotten that much better,
(01:39:25):
and that to win another gold medal will be a
taller task. You know, I hate the comparisons in battles
between generations because I think some of them, as we've
talked about in the past, Ryan, don't necessarily they're they're
apples and oranges in some apples and oranges comparisons in
some regard. But you know, here, you've got a squad
(01:39:47):
just full of guys. For the last twenty years, I
have filled highlight reels, finals appearances, All Star Game appearances,
big moments we could talk about changing the game, whether
that's Lebron, Steph Kevin Durant and his six foot nine
self getting out there all of those things. I gotta
do it. I gotta do it. He let the cat
(01:40:08):
out of the bag. Everybody's shorter, it's been I've been
wwe worked all along. But for Lebron James, he's also
got the the Bronni James questions that he's got to answer,
which I'm sure many of the players there would love
to to a degree, but are also loving that he's
got to be the first guy to really go through
it in this way. He was on the Today Show
(01:40:30):
being asked, well, once you actually get to training camp
with the Lakers, how's this gonna work?
Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
That's gonna work?
Speaker 7 (01:40:37):
Just like anyone other my teammates, hold him accountable, man,
he should hold me accountable when I do things. You know,
you're not right, you know for me, you know, I
probably would hold him at a higher standard because you know,
I want him to be great. I want him to
be as great as he can be.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
Does he get to do the Dad? I'm not mad,
I'm just disappointed. How's that work? At a huddle?
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
Well? The first Bronnie is not going to be holding
lebron accountable by any measure of the bat.
Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
Well noticed he couldn't say the word wrong there, Ryan Hollins, right,
he did not use the word wrong in describing Bronni
trying to, you know, help him.
Speaker 3 (01:41:18):
Yeah, no, no, no, it ain't it ain't happening. That
ain't happening. Okay, but it's cool to see, you know,
But I get where he's going with that. Man, I
can't imagine I can't imagine those shoes, man, pretty pretty
cool shoes. Lebron we're all living through your brother with
this one.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
Yeah, it's it's certainly one of those. And again from
every walk of life, how many stores growing up had
the and sons or and family on the back end
of it, or the big thing was tagging that it
was a family business along the way. I mean, that's
certainly part of the process as we go. And look,
I don't know how it's going to turn out, you know,
(01:41:56):
I root for the kid. He seems like he's got
a pretty good head on his shoulder. He needs to
find a three point shot pretty fast. But beyond that,
seems like he's got, you know, the the right level
of respect for what's about to come, you know, saying
all the right things. He's certainly gone through watching the
way his father's words have been parsed out for all
(01:42:16):
these years. And look, Lebron's cagey. He knows the messages
he's getting out. So let's not let's not be coy
about it there. But for Bronnie, you know, saying hey,
I'll take the minutes in development wherever I can get
it right, He's saying all the right things, because let's
face it, folks have had the the hammers out and
the Daggers for him, you know, since before the draft,
(01:42:37):
in the months of build up, and then once they
added a day two to the draft just for him,
you know that that's going to be met with an
even higher level of skepticism to it all.
Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
Yeah, and and and here's the thing. You know when
you talk about Bronnie, I mean just he's completely out
of context. Man. He's the fifty fifth pick. He's a
exposive athlete. The potential is there, He's got his work
cut out, and you gotta understand outside of him getting
a guaranteed contract, it's not abnormal. But you got to
(01:43:12):
understand the business side of things also. And if we've
seen this, we've seen other players drafted in that position.
You know, when you're the fifteenth man, especially with these
you know, the two way contracts, and you know the
popularity and the stronger use of the G League with
some of these guys, you can go and make a
business pick. Man, Bronnie James is gonna he's already sold
(01:43:34):
out the South Bay Lakers ticket sales. Okay, there's gonna
be jerseys being sold. You know, he's gonna make a
lot of money for the Los Angeles Lakers, and the
moment that he gets into a game with his father
is gonna be special. And I can see Lebron pushing
the ball down the middle, Bronnie running the lane. He's
gonna throw up a lob to him and be watching
(01:43:55):
that clip for a very long time. Man. So it's
gonna be some cool stuff that will be to see you.
But if anything, the history will be made. But again
for the fifth to fifth pick, I think people need
to calm down. I think their hate, they're lust for
Lebron just take a back seat in moments. Maybe you
don't agree and I don't agree with everything Lebron doesn't
(01:44:15):
keep it in context.
Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
No, But in this particular case, when you have leverage
in any walk of life, you're gonna use it. Right
in this case, it's the fifty fifth pick. As you say,
we can go through the history of the drafts, and yeah,
we can find guys that were undrafted and made their
way in. We could find guys down around that pick,
or maybe a couple of picks lower that became all
(01:44:37):
stars or pivotal role players on teams. I mean, nobody's
saying that, but to try to claim this was going
to be the pick that's putting anybody over. Let's be
honest with ourselves here, now, is it something that can
be packaged? I don't know how much value does a
fifty fifth pick have? Not a whole hell of a lot, right,
because everybody else realizes for what it is to right,
(01:44:58):
you try to pile up as many numbers ones as
you can because you may have a bad year and
suddenly it has that much more value or it's another
chip to trade. Whatever. Fifty fifth pick doesn't have a
whole lot to it. So as you say, not only
from a financial standpoint, that eight millions is a drop,
is a drop of the bucket, right in terms of
what they're going to make merchandising the hell out of
(01:45:21):
Bronnie James, there's no question about that. But it also
made sure your relationship and again I don't know long
term like what you need to do with it, but
at least for now, Rich Paul has a lot of clout.
So long as lebron James is in the game, they're
still at the head of the table. To steal another
wrestling reference, as we talk about you know, the bloodline,
(01:45:43):
Paul Hayman, Roman reigns and all that fun stuff that
he gets to stir the drink a little bit more.
You don't have to like it, but you have to
acknowledge it. And for the Lakers, they decided to do business.
They wanted to stay in the Lebron James business for
myriad reasons, right, loyalty, family history, all of that kind
of stuff. Have him retire a Laker and not see
(01:46:04):
him potentially strong arm to another place again. I would
have liked to see Bronni drafted somewhere else out of spite,
just to see what the chaos that would ensued. Not
denying the cool moment in any way, shape or form, Ryan,
But for the Lakers, there's business pragmatism, and at right
now you've still got to play with some of the
rich Paul clientele. Once Lebron's gone, does he still wield
(01:46:26):
that much power at least? No, because Draymond's going to
be out of the game too, right, So you know,
we look at that, But for now you're playing ball
based on the current setup, this current landscape, and the
rules of engagement.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
Yeah, well, for rich, he's got more clients than Lebron. Obviously,
the Lebron is the one who started everything, but he's
put men, He's done an excellent job, creating quite an
empire man and making his own name. So it's more
clientele than no.
Speaker 2 (01:46:55):
I'm just saying in terms of guys with that kind
of power.
Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
Oh yeah, now right, well, you know Lebron. Lebron's power
is much more than than basketball, you know, and it
does trickle over into basketball, undoubtedly, as it should because
the work that he's put in. But I want I
want to ask this to you. Am I wrong to
think that everybody shooting down Bronnie James is being played?
(01:47:22):
But is Lebron's longevity due to Bronnie? You get what
I'm saying, Like, Lebron definitely.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
Got to find motivation somewhere.
Speaker 3 (01:47:32):
Right about three years ago, you would say, give it. Tecker,
who knows how long he had it in mind, was
like I gotta keep like like, dude, you get to
a certain point, Mike, you know, and you wake up
every day and you're like, do I want to do this? Right?
Like what's your why? Like it got to a point where,
you know, in the NBA, it's like, you know, the
dream is to make it to the league. You get
to the league and it's like, after a while, it's like, no,
(01:47:53):
I'm happy to be here. I'm loving it. I'm not
going to be an All Star, you know, I'm looking
to just to be here. But Lebron has been pushing
and pushing and pushing. Am I wrong to think that
BRONI has somehow this pick, this fifty fifth pick is
the last three years kind of kept him going with
this play.
Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
Yeah, I got to think that's certainly part of the pie.
The other side, you know, and folks can argue all
they want about winning and all of that fun stuff
as you look at roster constructions and everything else like that.
That's much larger debate than what we've got the space
for in this moment. Ryan, But yeah, you're finding motivations
for him a lot about statistics. I mean, he can't
(01:48:33):
deny that. In terms of separating yourself from some of
the other legends fueling the Jordan debate, even though some
will reduce it to titles, you know, and just leave
it there. You know that maybe it's more nuanced. I
don't know about some of the efforts to go back
and find the suppruter film to discredit guys for stats
(01:48:53):
they were credited with, because now you get the other
side doing the same with Lebron with some of the
rebounds or assists or things of that nature. So it
gets a little bit into a pettiness thing. And as
we say, pettiness knows no tax bracket. But yeah, records
and the idea of either playing with his son or
being able to say, yeah, my body held up long enough, kid,
(01:49:16):
I was still here when you got here. So all
of that, I think play is it's just a matter
of how you want to chop up that pie.
Speaker 3 (01:49:22):
Yeah, no, no, it has to and it and again, man,
it's it's a it's just really cool to see and
you know, just seeing Bronnie and and thinking of the
magnitude of what's going on, like like, Mike, tell me
how I want to see this? How much? How much
have you heard about the first pick in the draft
or a second.
Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
Not a whole lot. I mean I watched the uh
the Summer League game that was on after Bronnie and
what eighty percent of the people left the arena after
the that Rockets Lakers game ended, and that it might
be a little more aggressive but either way, the point
was there were a lot of empty seats.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
Yeah, yeah, right, you're not hearing anything. Bronnie's getting the
coverage that the number one pick would get, and obviously
because he's Lebron Jay's son, but in some way I
also see this, and I want to know how you
feel about this. I think when I'm watching Lebron, I
think his strategy is also to put pressure on Bronnie
because a lot of the comments he's made has put
(01:50:21):
him under the spotlight. It's something he can't run from,
and it's almost like I'm going to control the narrative
and with a kid has talented as Bronnie in the
situation that he can't run from. And keep in mind,
Lebron has had the most hype of any player that
we have ever seen play the game and exceeded that hype.
Don't leave that out for that perspective. I think there's
(01:50:43):
a level where Lebron has purposely put pressure on Bronnie
to have to meet these expectations, to kind of like
put him under the fire, you know. And I'm excited
to see because he's gonna have to make choices here,
He's gonna have to meet those. You know, he doesn't
have to do any make no mistake. But again, if
this is something that he wants to do, this is
(01:51:04):
gonna be a part of it. And am I wrong
to think that Lebron is kind of like, no kid
like you want this? This is what it looks like
being a James.
Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
Well, but it's like anything I can get you in
the door, you're gonna have to play well enough to
go take it for yourself. Yes, let's talk about Reesa
che and sor maybe next week a little bit more.
But now we're gonna turn it over to Isaac Lowan
Crown Ryan Hollins, because he's got some breaking news in
our sporting universe at Isaac Lowan Crown where you find
him in the Twitter verse.
Speaker 3 (01:51:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:51:30):
Just seconds ago, the men's singles final at Wimbledon came
to its completion. Here's the call of the final point
by Barry Milns on Wimbledon Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Fourth championship point. He says that can replies him.
Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
Alcor act.
Speaker 3 (01:51:50):
I.
Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
Thus that's to the sixteen six two.
Speaker 8 (01:51:54):
Seven six Callos alcaz Is Tolay Wimbledon champion. Once again
for the second year in succession.
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
He has caught them at Ah.
Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
The great note at.
Speaker 6 (01:52:05):
Djokovic won it in a deciding fifth set last year,
and this time he wins in straight sets. His Al
Karaz defeats Djokovic six to two, six to two, seven
to six, winning the tiebreaker in the third set seven
to four. Unfortunately, today we have news at the exact
opposite end of the spectrum. Tragic news this morning out
(01:52:29):
of the National Football League. As a short time ago,
the Baltimore Sun newspaper reported that former Ravens receiver Jacoby
Jones passed away at the age of forty. Now KPRC
television out of Houston has just reported that Jones died
overnight in his sleep at his home in the suburban
(01:52:51):
Houston area. No cause of death has been announced as
of yet. Jones played nine seasons in the NFL. He
played a starring role in the Ravens march to the
championship of Super Bowl forty seven after the twenty twelve season,
starring in the Super Bowl itself that year, a thirty
four to thirty one win over the San Francisco forty
(01:53:12):
nine ers, and in that game he had a fifty
six yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter. And
then went back to receive the second half kickoff. And
here's how Kevin Harlan called it. Then on Westwood one,
Jean Racisco's gonna kickoff Acers won down trop Palick cellar
Rasin swingers left Plague through the ball to kickoff breaking
(01:53:33):
nine yards two.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Pot to Tooby Jonesy flings out of the ensus park.
Speaker 6 (01:53:36):
Pixtend gets a poet to the pinning up the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
Of the Turdy gets a little back to the pretty fix.
Here aday A cost the midfield for forty, down the
third for thirty. The Turlity kicks into the ten. Gary
turns it all to day.
Speaker 6 (01:53:48):
Corner put in the second half Tuxtown on a kickoff
freecurd Our one concreditar Yard helds kickoff recurn.
Speaker 1 (01:53:58):
Here the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (01:54:03):
Again that Jacoby Jones setting a Super Bowl record with
a kickoff return touchdown to help lead the Baltimore Ravens
to the championship of Super Bowl forty seven. And again Jones,
according to multiple outlets, passing away at the age of
forty years old, with KPRC television out of Houston reporting
(01:54:24):
that Jones again died overnight in his sleep at his
home in suburban Houston. No cause of death announced as
of yet. Mike and Ryan back.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
To you, Thanks so much, Iilo at Isaac Low and Crow.
Were you following there? Angel CITYFC and the upcoming Chargers
season that he covers as well at the Ryan Hollins
find me over at Swollendum. Coming up next, we turn
our attention back to Detroit. I'm on Rossa Brown, one
of our favorites and certainly a fantasy favorite. As we
get ready for the new season. A couple of revelations
(01:54:53):
coming out of the new Netflix receiver. One pretty gruesome,
the other it's the Breakfast of Champions. We'll talk about
it next time.
Speaker 3 (01:55:00):
Fox.
Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
Hey, welcome back. In final segment of the show for US,
Jason Fitz, Carrie Rhoades. Coming up in ten minutes here
Fox Sports Radio. Thanks to Ilo, thanks to Ian, and
thanks to Chris making a sound so pretty today. He's
Ryan Hollins on the other side here, I'm Mike Harmon
as we're coming from the Tirac dot Com studios. All right,
(01:55:22):
for next week, have you watched clip yet? I know
it was a tough week. Did you watch it on
the plane?
Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
Did you sleep? You know? I still don't have wi
Fi at home. So no, there's no no clip yet,
but I think a hurricane gives me an excuse.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
No, no, there's no question about it. That's why I
approached it very gently. I approached it very gently, you know,
because you could have done it, you know, last Sunday.
But you know, it's kind of thing I was trying
to spur you on because eventually I gotta I gotta
get the full breakdown of well, how much fiction we've
really got there? But another show that started is this
(01:55:54):
Netflix Receiver. Show comes in the wake of The Quarterback
Show a year ago where everybody got introduced to a
new level of Kirk Cousins. Here's Patrick Mahomes. Congratulations, they're
expecting another kid. But now you got a number of receivers.
One of them is Detroit Lyons star Alan Ross Saint Brown,
he revealed, and I wanted to ask you this one
from an NBA perspective. He played with his oblique rip
(01:56:17):
from the bone still putting up fifteen hundred yards. What
the hell superhuman stuff is that?
Speaker 3 (01:56:25):
Wow, I'm no medical expert. That that don't sound good.
Speaker 2 (01:56:28):
And what are we getting you together with on a
Sunday to get you through sixty minutes of running up
and down. That's what I want to know. Give me
some of that. But his dad, and this is great
John Brown, as they're going through and talking about the
rise of he and his brother, you know who also
plays Equanimius Saint Brown and you get a long in
(01:56:49):
the league. But he gave him the advice of what
he should do at halftime.
Speaker 3 (01:56:55):
Oh yeah, because.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
Yeah, this is what he was young to do it,
all right, So you get the ambient noise, but you
know he said I did it when I was young.
(01:57:22):
Coke is the thing again. He had referenced Coca Cola
explicitly a little bit earlier in that clip. So there
are not two different paths that John Brown was taking
us on there. So let's keep that straight. Uh would
you use at halftime coffee or just go to water?
I mean, gave away the electrolytes?
Speaker 3 (01:57:40):
What what have we got? I used to take a
later on when I first came into like I was young,
I had too much energy. You know, need need something
after a while, eighty two games you want to create consistency.
So I almost want to say it was C four.
I was taking it like an energy drink. And then
It got to a point after that one of my
(01:58:02):
strength coaches shout out the rich I think riches with
the knicks now and he was like, well, why are
you taking all that? I was like, well, I want
the caffeine. So he was like, the point is for
you to get caffeine, right, get some energy. And then
I've seen guys take Red bulls. I wasn't a big
fan of Red bull because a lot of the sugars
in the Red Bull. I hope, I'm not talking sponsorship now,
(01:58:23):
We'll leave it there.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
No, it's not a sponsor.
Speaker 3 (01:58:26):
It got to the point of there were these caffeine strips,
and the caffeine strips really work because it's like straight caffeine,
straight caffeine. And I think Chris at the time, Chris
Paul was like a you know, one of the investors
behind it. But those caffeine strips just straight caffeine.
Speaker 2 (01:58:47):
The energy got of like mixteen patches. So there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:58:51):
I don't know, but at the end of the day,
you're drinking coffee, you're doing. All you want is caffeine.
So the caffeine strip made the most sense. And to
this day, I still keep strips on me and I
don't use them a lot, but when I need them,
like I call upon them.
Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
Look at that sometimes you're going to the well. You
forget that this is your guy over in the fun
and exciting world of Detroit. You got aman Ross, Saint
Brown and the chaos that ensues fifteen hundred yards still
with the oblique torn off the bone. That's just wow.
One of those I'm trying to think of medical marvels.
But also, you know you're talking about, you know, getting
(01:59:26):
caffeine strips or whatever. It always lends to the old
question of what the hell are these guys, you know,
taking to get themselves through a little more vitamin T
perhaps along the process. Ryan will do it again. Enjoy Vegas,
stay cool, drink more water, Carry and Jason coming up
next on Fox
