Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Spent a huge day for Spain.

Speaker 3 (00:06):

to you, Jeff Schwartz.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Always gonna be with you, man.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
So huge day for Spain started off in the morning
breakfast at Wimbledon. Carlos Alcaraz straight sets against the Joker,
he takes down Novak Djokovic, wins Wimbledon for a second
straight year, and then just a couple of minutes ago,
Spain polishes off England and wins the Euro twenty twenty
four Championship. So Spain in the morning, Spain in the afternoon,

(00:51):
Spain all day.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Huh, good afternoon. Glad to be back with you. Yeah.
I've been following soccer one ever in my life for
work this summer, and you'd be happy to know that
I finally won a wager against England. So it had
been games. Now I bet against England because they have
not looked as good as they were supposed to and

(01:15):
I finally hit a wager. I'm happy about that. So
graduates of Spain, they were the best team all all
tournament and they deserve to win today. A good, good match. Look,
I'll tell you what you you I'm not the biggest
soccer fan. I watched the Olympics and World Cup and
watching Euros. I watched COVID tonight. The high level soccer, though,

(01:37):
was really good to watch, Like it's it is. It's again.
Americans have trouble sometimes with a lot of scoring in soccer,
but if you just the high level soccer, it's just
they're good athletes. You know, they're they're elite. They're fun
to watch because a lot of action does happen in
a game that ends up two to one, when the
when the best playing in the world.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, and look, man, I've got some soccer friends and
they'll say they'll get annoyed with me sometimes because they're
like defense is just as as important as offense, or
it's just as fun to watch his offense, And I'm like, no,
it's not. No, it isn't, particularly in soccer, right, Like
there are some matches where it could be one nothing

(02:20):
or you know, nil nil, and it's just it's such
a snoozefest. There are other games where it's actually pretty entertaining.
And this game today, I don't need it to be
five to three. With it being two to one Spain
over England, that was a really well played game, a
lot of chances, a lot of excitement, a lot of style.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
That was a fun match to watch.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
It was, and you know, England once again failed kind
of in the big moment, right, that's what they're they're
known for at times. Spain with their fourth Euro now
the most of any country. And you know, we won't
get ready for the Olympics. I think are are age restricted, right,
the Olympics are younger players, I believe. And then we

(03:02):
got the World Cup in a couple of years, so
big time for soccer. Soccer, just like a lot of
other other sports in our country outside of the major ones,
are starting to get a lot more attention and run,
so is soccer.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
You know, when we have like soccer questions as to hey,
how is it set up in the Olympics or anything
like that, we go to one man. His name is
Chris Purfett, our technical producer he's got something for that's right.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
So the Olympics are age restricted. I believe it is
twenty three and under, but that's for the men's side.
For the women's it's all ages. We'll be sending our
senior team over there. So and I know that the
women's US team is well a little divisive. Yeah, is
the one that is clearly far more competitive than the
men's right now?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Is Kaylin Clark going for soccer? Or just.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I like how your voice white up there? A little divisive,
you know, a little.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Bit over there. I mean, look, I've been pretty clear
that I don't really care what my athletes believe politically
or so. Usually I just want to watch them play sports.
You know, it doesn't bother me either either direction, right right,
And yeah, that the US women's national team often gets
the ire of of of political people. Chris help me

(04:13):
out here. I am again kind of a novice with
this stuff. When the USA got knocked out of the KOPA,
you know, I see these excuses being made, and Okay,
I've watched them sports in my life. We're just not
good enough. Why does there no one just say that, like, yeah,
we're not good enough. Well, players are not as good
as the other as the other countries, Like why is
that so hard to say?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
But I don't I don't think it's like completely true
in the sense that sometimes like look at England, like
all this. I mean, there's been some strikers on there.
They've been guys like Pulisicch and like they Bolliguan obviously
was a spark for a lot of it. But I
I think some people have been quick to try to
be uh, what's what's the word I'm looking for in
rushing to the defense of Greg Berhalter. They're trying to

(04:54):
be contrarian on this point. Greg Borholter really didn't have
much place on this team after the World Cup, but
because of some weird drama with the Raina family family
of Giovanni Raina trumping up these weird rumors about some
domestic violence incident was which was a huge bunch of
a nothing burger. They just had to bring him back
or avoid serious lawsuits. But this was this has been languid.

(05:17):
I've not been the talent's been a little bit overstated,
but it's clearly there and it's clearly just needs someone
to really just shake it up and implement a better
system that doesn't immediately fall apart when you don't retain possession,
which is what happens with the US. It's not there,
but it should not be. You are losing to Panama

(05:37):
regularly bad. It should be much better than that, because
that was a thing. That was what made the Panama
game frustrating. You already posted a win over Bolivia. All
you needed was a win on Panama and that Uruguay game,
where Uruguay is the hottest team in the tournament, becomes
completely irrelevant. You're already through to the knockout round, and
instead it's like why that's the problem. That's ultimately the

(05:58):
problem is like, yes, we're not top ten, but we
should be a lot better than losing to Panama and
drawing with Jamaica in March. Like the lows just make
no sense. And that's why that's why Halter had to
go so.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
New coach, and we're gonna win the World Cup, is
what it sounds like. That's right here.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
I'd like some knockout round wins, I think is where
I would like.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yes, Well, that's the thing is it's somewhere in between.
Right to your point, Jeff, team USA is just not
good enough. To Chris's point, they're better than what the
results have been, right, so somewhere in between theirs.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
I think you're both right.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
But at the end of the day, no, they're not
going to be taking down the goliaths in soccer anytime soon.
And really they've been behind schedule. We'd started talking about
Team USA on the men's side making great strides years ago,
and we thought they would be further along than they
are right now. So there's no doubt it's been a
giant disappointment and some people just sugarcoated. I'm with you, Jeff.

(06:59):
Just call it for what it is. This would be
like what would be like an NBA or NFL comparison
where maybe like I can't, I mean.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Isn't it isn't When like two was it two thousand
and sixteen, our Olympic team was just bad because it
was good and we lost, and then they're like, yeah,
we should like get better players again, you know, like
like that feels like what happened with basketball, and now we
don't I think have that option in soccer. Just get
Lebron to play for soccer, right, But like we just
the team wasn't good. I mean there's a whole documentary

(07:30):
on the redeem team, right, like they decided to just
be better, And obviously I had Kobe that nix and
we don't. Again, we don't have that luxury, I think,
just to find ourselves, Kobe and Lebron to play soccer.
But obviously there's something that we've gotta we gotta figure.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
It out right now, and I know it would come
up from the Fox crew as well. But like one
of the other problems about that just get better talent
sometimes too, is that in this particular country England learned
this a long time ago, by the way, that because
of the price tag laced on youth soccer in this country,
it creates a perverse disincentive for people of certain economic backgrounds, who,

(08:07):
by the way, for most countries out there, like your
soccer players are coming from lower income brackets. But if
you're asking them families to pay thousands of dollars a
year just to just to play soccer at the youth level,
you are losing huge portions of talent that could be
going there. And to be fair, they might not just
be going to like football or baseball, like if you
have a Lionel MESSI on your hand. He's too short

(08:28):
to play anything in football. Like you know, they're probably
out there, but we'll never know because the federation refuses
to change how we you know, bring up soccer talent
in this country.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
And that's another part of the frustration.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I'll just say it like this, where I'll use an
NBA comparison. You tell me if you guys buy this
or not. But take a team like the Clippers. You
know a lot of hope. Oh they signed Kawhi, they
signed Paul George years ago. Look out, they're gonna do
some big things. It didn't take us that long for
to be like, okay, we're turning the page.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
It's not happening, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
And there are people that will not turn the page
on US men's soccer when it when it's clearly like okay,
it's just not in the cards, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
But it's still.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Well this and well that, and you never and it's like,
I know, you need to give.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
This generation a chance with one different at least one
different coach. Right now, it's been ber Halter for basically
this entire time because they missed the World Cup in
twenty eighteen and that's when you're in Klinsman got dismissed.
That wasn't really this generation Culisitch, Rena, Balligan, et cetera.
Just yet, I really want to see what another manager
can do with it, because I really do think Burhlter

(09:42):
has very well underperformed with this generation and he's been
here for since that twenty eighteen year. Like, I want
to see what someone else can do with this talent,
Like the USA can go out there and really try
to find someone who can really shake things up, and
I think there's a chance there, but yeah, if they
don't perform after that, then yeah, it's over to me.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
It's also just hurt our feelings as Americans that.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
We're not yeah we're just talk.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
It just like hurts our feelings even though like we
don't play soccer at the same level other countries do.
And to your point about youth sports, it's just very
expective to play here, and you know, best athletes go
play basketball and football and some play baseball. We're just angry,
We're anger we're not the best at something, and it really.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Just yeah, it's the heck out of us.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
I think US soccer. It's kind of like the new
Orleans Saints. Right now, I'll give you an NFL comparison.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
To the Derek Carr.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
That's what I mean is hey, if they just get
rid of Dennis Allen and get a new head coach, yeah,
they're still not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
You need better overall players. So that's where I think
US soccer is right now. What have you been most
interested in today? By the way, Jeff, we got what
look at the Smorgas board, not involving ball, which we
both know to be football. But you got Wimbledon, you
got the euro Coppa later tonight, you got baseball, golf,
w NBA. What's been at the top of.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
The list at you parlay know there was a I
saw there was a Microsoft excel A Championship. So it
was on earlier today that they took a peek out.
I'm just we need football come back, buddy. It's almost here.
We yesterday the Baltimore Ravens rookies reported yesterday to training camp,
like we are so close to it happening.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I I find the Angel Reese Caitlin Clark internet discussion
to be the most fascinating because people have just have
just dug themselves into these positions and twisted themselves into pretzels.
And it the the the memes and the videos and

(11:42):
the comments. I just never thought I'd be interested in
following two players in the WNBA, But my timeline every
time they play on social media is just a wreck.
And you know, it's it's so interesting because it's it's
sort of an easy just a general basketball It feels

(12:02):
like it needs to explain, right, like when we look
at our superstars and the NBA that we like to watch, Okay,
most of them either shoot very far or jump very higher,
do both together, right, yeah? And Angel Reaves doesn't do that.
That's why that that's part of the discussion here that

(12:23):
no one talks about right like that. It's she I'm
not talking away with what she rebounds, unbelievably great rebounder,
but her game is not as esthetically pleasing as Caitlin
Clark's and that is where a lot of pushback comes
on some of the discussion about her game, and and
no one talks about that. They just talk about this
other stuff that doesn't even matter. And I think it

(12:45):
comes down to that, like in the NBA, if someone's
getting ten and ten every night and doing it the
way Clark was doing it right, We would never talk
about that.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
No one cares, No one cares.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
And because it's so supercharged right now where everyone has
to have a take on who's doing what, who's doing what,
it makes it to where like this has become a thing,
just a thing that's just out of control. Every time
these two ladies play, it's good for the league. I'm mommy,
I'm we're watching. I don't know if you're watching watching
Camlin Cork play right now. Might have a wage on
her as well. That also helps that. But it is

(13:21):
just fascinating me to see the discourse on social media
about these two players.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Yeah, it's Look, I've made this point many times where
like just what you laid out, the way the games look.
If you compare this to the NBA, take Angel Rees
and Caitlin Clark out of it.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Just look at.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Stylistically, Steph Curry watching his game obviously is magnificent, but
look at just three point shooting in general. Klay Thompson
is fun to watch, you know, Donovan Mitchell, Trey Young
when he's shooting from distance. The list goes on and on.
Damian Lillard hitting logo threes. It's fun. If you look
at the top rebounders in the NBA last season, are

(14:03):
you going out of your way to watch Rudy Gobaert
or you know, like Jared Allen do his thing with
the Cavs he averages over ten rebounds.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
It's not as exciting.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
It's very it's a very short list of really compelling rebounders,
you know, like Dennis Rodman. Right, those are exceptions because
dudes like I don't know, like Yusuf Nurkic averaging eleven
rebounds with the Suns.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Who cares? You don't go out of your way to
watch that.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
And then on top of that, and I look, I
appreciate the going for the record, right, I appreciate that
there is an effort by angel Raised to understand the moment.
As a former player, man, I'm all for the idea
of stat padding. I don't care. It's it's entertaining, it's motivating,

(14:55):
But the blaytant nature of it the last two games
is just so in your face that I think it
has a negative effect in the way that people feel
about injuries. I feel no differently about her. Fantastic player,
not rookie of the year. But I mean, you're averaging

(15:16):
you know what, fourteen and twelve is a rookie It's
incredible rookie season. It's fantastic, but like the blatantness of it,
and then her team is getting destroyed in these games.
So it's like on top of that, her teammates are
like pumped that she has this record going when they
don't seem as excited to try to win the basketball
games right right, and the disgust that she had yesterday

(15:40):
when they did it passed to the ball at the end,
like the second time. It's just a bad look. Even
though I'm sort of four it, Like I think that
go for it, you know, like go but when you
shoot eight of thirty the last two games, and it
exacerbates is you know, the takes on the stat padding.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
No, I'll I'll circle back to that at the top
and next hour because I've got some thoughts on that
as well.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
But yeah, I can't get enough Brian. I just I
watch both their games every time they play. I just
like can't get enough of the discourse and then just
the blatant, like you know, another network just decided to
put Angel Reese as the number one for Rookie of
the Year, and the gambling market's like Cameos minus eight fifty.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Yeah, I looked at it yesterday. I'm sure it's fluctuated
a little bit. But on BETMGM, Caitlin Clark's minus one
thousand and Angel Reese was plus five hundred. So just
make it as basic as possible. If you bet one
hundred dollars at that time on Caitlin Clark, you would
win ten dollars. If you bet one hundred dollars on
Angel Rees you would win five hundred dollars. Like, that's

(16:51):
how big the gap is in terms of the betting line.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
And trust me, that matters.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
And so I just I just there's with absence of
football right now, it is just consuming me. I enjoy
hey man, every second. I like some painis and sports.
I like, you know, I like drama.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
And drama sells. Drama sells.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I just man, I like it. I mean, yeah, man,
Clark just went behind the back for a pass and
it was dropped by a teammate. Oh, I just like
all of it. It's fun watching.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I'm watching because I have Boston her getting at least
ten rebounds. She had eight in the first half and
I should be with stupid and added Clark with the assists,
and she's nowhere freaking.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
She needs six right the rest of the game to get.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
It was she had seven in the first quarter last time,
so we need her to rally here. That's what we need, really,
all right? Coming up next, is it ever smart to
cash out? Great story for you on the way. He's
Jeff Schwartz.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
I'm Brian. Now hang with us right here on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live. Paully Fools go ahead with Tony Foodsco. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:11):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Toni Foodsco Show. Yeah, but instead of us
telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick
described us when he came on our show.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. What are you doing?

Speaker 7 (18:24):
Were interrupting our promo?

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
You took those clips totally out of context.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
Oh yeah, Well, after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 7 (18:35):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.

Speaker 6 (18:37):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Fusco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Yea these Jeff Schwartz, I'm Brian now come into you
live from thee Tirack dot com studios here on Fox
Sports Radio. So, man, I hope this better Jeff, from
one better to the next. I know you feel the
same way. Hopefully this better did not get royally screwed here.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
So there was a better.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Last leg of his three leg parlay was on the
euro Final.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Okay good. He had fifty five to one odds.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
First bet was Scotti Scheffler to win the Masters. That
worked out, second leg was the Celtics to win the
NBA title. That worked out. Last leg England to win
the euro Championship. And so it was a seventeen thousand
dollars bet and the better would have won just under

(19:41):
a million bucks. And so as of Friday, the Better
had not sold the ticket. There was an asking price
on Wednesday of four hundred thirty thousand dollars, and the
better turned down a bit of four hundred thousand dollars
I don't know if he let it ride and said

(20:03):
go England and then they came up short and he
got a big goose egg. I'm not sure, but as
a Friday morning, that was the scenario.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
So what was he say again when he was standing
to win?

Speaker 3 (20:16):
If he won the way, if he won, he would
have won just under a million bucks and bet was
on draft Kings and they offered a cash out of
about three hundred and eighty two thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Never never never cash out, Never cash out. You should
just if he was smart, he just would have had
for five hundred thousand dollars today, right, Like would you
just do that? Like takes Spain to win you a
five hundred thousand.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
I mean you could. It gets really tricky with soccer, right.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
And then you just well, no, you know, you just
take him to like I bet, I bet Spain to
hoist a trophy. You can You can wager so manyferent ways.
I've learned this in the summer. You can wager on obviously,
like a double chance, which is basically two results at
the end of the ninety minutes, right Spain or tie
England or tie or or tie tie basically like they

(21:11):
just told you can wager on the full ninety minute
results like tonight I have. I took Columbia plus three twenty.
I think just to win outright in ninety minutes. AGA's
our today to have a number for the way Columbia
can score. So I just took it. So and then
you could take like two advance, right, and there's no

(21:31):
two advance today. It was to win the trophies. I
took Spain minus one fifty today to just to to
win the game whenever they won the game, whether it
was pks or whether it was extra time, or whether
it was a regulation. So the problem with this is
you would need, you know, like five hundred thousand dollars
to wager, so you would.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Could just cash out for the three eighty two.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, but yeah, but you would make more. I guess
you'd have to wager like seven to fifty to win
five it would, yeah, I mean you probably can find
a way to make more than three hundred and ninety
thousand dollars if Spain were to win today or did
win today. But I think generating the capital was.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
The hard part, right, right, right.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
So maybe you decide, okay, I'll take the three ninety
or whatever the prop swap was on at four hundred
because I can't. I don't have enough capital to wager
five hundred thousand dollars on Spain today. Yeah, so, but
I would just say the cash out feature is nine
percent of the time. Never never do it. The sports

(22:38):
books are begging you to do that. Don't do it.
It's a winner for them, not for you. And just
read to write that you guys, don't don't. Don't do
the care again, I guess unless you can't raise the
capital for a big hedge or something like that.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
But right, right, Yeah, I'm a little bit different than
you on that because I'm not saying I'm, you know,
fifty percent sent cash out option person over here. But
it just depends on the scenario where I think, depending
on the scenario, I might be more likely to cash
out than you would where I remember when we talked

(23:12):
about the NFL Awards, there was some guy who bet
on like five or six NFL Awards at the end
of the season, and it's just like, you're not gonna
get every one of those, right, Someone's gonna vote for
the Defensive Player.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Of the Year. So that was one of the last legs.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
It's better to cash out and earn a profit when
it's still a long shot like that, or even if
you cashed out for I don't see myself making many
seventeen thousand dollars three leg parlay bets in my lifetime.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Insane amount of money to put on that.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
That's a lot of money, but that's arguably the cash
out of a lifetime, even if it's not a million.
I know you're thinking, oh man, I don't want to
cash out early and cost myself over six hundred thousand dollars.
But if you still cash out and you earn around
three eighty two, that could be the score of a lifetime.

(24:06):
You might not have a better score than that in
your life, and you don't You definitely don't want to
miss out on that if the wrong team wins.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
All right, I'm not I'm not totally against it, but
I think there are there are smarter ways to probably
make more money. The more. It's more of a hassle
to do it, like we talked about, but there are ways,
I think to just to make more money on that wager.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
I think we would both contact crack our guy, Bill
Krackenberger Sports if.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Marker for a wager. Yeah, yeah, I got limited in
a book the two weeks ago. As I put in
twenty of cracks futures, you sent us the one. I
did it all one time, one hundred bucks a pop.
And the book just has not let me wager on
the website in two weeks.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Oh no, really, Yeah, I don't know why it's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
I mean, it's put one hundred bucks on every one
of them. It's not like I I'm breaking the sports
book with two brand on the leve line. But I
decided that when he sent us those those picks, I
have not done many of the future like the game lines.
But he'll send us Bill Krackenberger, We're gonna we'll start
up again, I imagine soon, right with our pretty sidays,

(25:20):
Joe Kintain, I kick off a present about that MGM,
and I decided that Brian, I'm either all in or
I'm all nothing. Like, I can't do something where I
just wage on some of the futures he sends me,
because then if maybe you choose to seven, he loses.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
I know it.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Yeah, so he could hit a sixty clip and you
went one and three on the four that you thought
pretty strongly about.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Yeah, so I just did all of them. I mean,
did all of them. Humble brag.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
I guess I bet the sports book was like okay.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Yeah, well it was one of the apps. Yeah, just well,
like I tried, I tried to wage on Canon Clark
today and it won't let me. Let me be like
thirty bucks for the wager.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Oh boo, dude boo.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Man, Well, hey, the silver lining is maybe it It
liked Cracks future wagers enough where they're like, hey, you
probably gonna go that's a problem like this.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
This is my guest, Brian, is that they saw that
I copied like a bunch of sharp wagers and they're like,
I don't.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Like this guy anymore. That's right.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
It's someone's talking to him. You know, he's got some
insights with the sharps over here for sure. Someone else
who's sharp on this show. Our guy, Martin Weiss is
with us this evening. Martin, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (26:35):
Man?

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Everything good? Life is good.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Brian is living the dream you already know.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Man. I gotta tell you a quick story. What's super fast?

Speaker 3 (26:42):
So I took my nephews to get haircuts way back
when they were really, really young and my young nephew
Tie at the time. He was maybe like I don't know,
four or five years old. And I took him to
my buddy who cuts hair in South Bend, Indiana, right
shout out, Armando's the barbershop over there. But my guy Chris,
he looked at my nephew, Tye, and he goes.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
What's up, man, you live in the dream?

Speaker 3 (27:06):
And ty sat down in the barber chair and he
was like, no, I had to explain it as a
whole thing. But I always think a young Tie when
anyone says that.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
He said, no, man, I'm living awake.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
What do you mean?

Speaker 2 (27:22):
What does that know?

Speaker 1 (27:22):
I'm waiting to dream. I want to very quickly. When
I was in college, we were two under said we
were good, and Jim Rome was, you're in the National Show,
and a couple of our like we had Mike Claudier,
our head coach, Jonthan Stewart, went on and I used
to listen to me and another office lineman and buddy

(27:43):
of mine used to listen a lot to Jim Rome,
and we told h are like I think it was
Jonathan Stewart dead, says the last guy to go on
the show with him then we were number two or
three in the country whatever that We told him like, hey,
like Rome, we got some guys that listened to the
show on the offensive line like basically like if we win,
can they come on the show? Okay, so we win,
we come on the show, and my buddy named Jeff

(28:05):
Kendall cut off. It's the line for us. He lives
in Nashville, Tennessee. Now he decided to do a rant.
It was a seven minute rant okay on like first
time he everyone was on every on radio. He had
this whole thy written down he I did with We're
just fat kids living a dream. We made it into
shirts like it was a huge thing for It was
like our motto for years, bat kids live in a dreamlious.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
And so we got on there and did the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Yeah it's on YouTube. Yeah I got yeah. Like we
did it like a fifteen minute. It was me and
Max Under for the most part, who's played for eleven
years NFL. And then we're like, hey, roam. Jeff Camill
wants to talk, and he racked him and everything like
the whole thing. He like put him in a tear
and special like seven minutes he read off this like
eight pages. It was unbelievable. Fat kids live in a dream.

(28:48):
I got a shirt and everything with the house.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
That was the stamp of approval back in the day.
Rack him, rack him. Oh yes, we got old star.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Oh he got racked and everything. It was awesome. Two
thousand and seven, Baby.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
That's cool.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
Carlos Alcarez living the dream right now.

Speaker 8 (29:02):
Back to back Wimbledon winner, beating Novak Djokovis, both times,
this time in straight sets. Spain beat England two to
one of the euro twenty twenty four final.

Speaker 7 (29:11):
This is what it sounded like.

Speaker 9 (29:12):
The three thous in Spain, dams small.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
The old kings of European football regain the crown.

Speaker 8 (29:22):
Speaking of the kings of European football, Spain the first
team to win four European Championships. Age has beat the
Minstics earlier today in the WNBA eighty nine at seventy seven.
Right now, the fever and the Links going at it,
sixty four to sixty three, favorite of Minnesota seven thirty
five left in the fourth quarter. Caitlyn Clark fourth for
fifteen from the floor for eleven points, five assists, six turnovers.

(29:45):
The Tigers walked the Dodgers off for the second day
in a row. Today's score was four to three. In
the bottom of the ninth win, the pitcher threw a
ball into the left field and allowing Justin Henry Malloy
to score the walkoff run on an error. Orioles came
back to beat the Yankees six to five. Baltimore heads
into the also break first place in the ALC East
Al East Rather Cedric Mullins walk off with the two

(30:06):
RBI double in the ninth inning, the A's crushed the
Phillies eighteen to three. Brett Rooker with two different two
run home runs, Lawrence Butler had three home runs, Zach
Jeloff had a Grand Slam, and Brian I made a
joke with bo earlier today. I said, I bet Brian
bett on the one A who didn't hit a home
run today.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
That's how that's my like my baseball betting.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
I had one wage and I told you to take
the A's about a week ago against the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
Look at him today.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Eighteen runs.

Speaker 7 (30:40):
Goodness, raise blank the Guardians.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
Two.

Speaker 8 (30:43):
Do not think Royals over there, I mean try Red
Sox over the Royals five four. Marlins beat the Reds
three to two, Jeff and Brian back to.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
You guys, man, how dare you talk trash about me
off the air?

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Martin? This is unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (30:54):
Does he count like off the air because I then
brought it to the air and my first opportunity to
do so.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
No, it's all good, man. I think that's funny. That's good,
no doubt. All right, he's Jeff Schwartz. I'm probably no
on Fox Sports Radio. It's funny too.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
As Martin was talking about Djokovic, it's funny because a
lot of people are in Nicola Jokic mode, right where
you say it like a y yeah, And so I've
heard that a lot with Yokovic and it's like, no, man,
it's not Yokovic, that's it's Djokovic.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Right, We're confused.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
It's so confusing between Jokic and Djokovic, and they're both
known as Joker.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Very confused.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
I forgot another name for them.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Yeah, right, like I it's.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
When I was in first grade, we had we had
four kids in my class name Jeff. So I end
up being Schwartz. That's that's what That's what basically kept min.
My entire end up being Schwartz.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
After that, we had six Brian's at the time when
I was doing radio in Albany, New York. Six yeaes six,
So I was B five. That's how we just told
everybody apart, you know, or like like the last name,
you know there was Brian Katy. We just called him Katie,
you know, or B five B one. That's the way

(32:08):
we did it. You had four Jeff's.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Four I think there were two, two with a G
and two with a J.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
That's that's even more confusing right there. I'm surprised they
didn't just call you G. You know, that would have worked.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
I never really had anyone call me G before. I
don't look like a G.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Schwartz than a G I think.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
So yeah I had. I think I had one football
coach called me G. But that was like about it.
I never had, Yeah, I never. It just was always Schwartz,
big fan Schwartz. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
I've been known as both.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Most of my friends, my family calls me B that's
what my nephews used to call me, Uncle Bee, or
the section of my friends just called me no.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
No is really easy to do.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Kids are kids the shorter of the name when you're better,
like that's how you know. That's I think a lot
of nicknames happened because kids can't even say a full name.
They just start saying like a shortened version of a name,
and that just sticks with what's with you?

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Do you want to know where it's my silliest nickname
that is stuck the longest, Jeff, Yeah, it is Moto.
That's what it is. So way back when you used
to have like the razor phones. Yeah, and it was
that ringtone where it was like, hello Moto, and it's
the techno thing. My sister and I just used to
say that to each other. We would just say hello Moto,

(33:28):
and it's stuck. My nephews have called me Moto for
a good fifteen years. It's ridiculous how that nickname is stuck.
But that's the nickname for me and also my sister.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
It's weird.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Is that why you ruin all text threads with your androids?

Speaker 2 (33:45):
No?

Speaker 3 (33:46):
But I'm dugging man. I will never be team iPhone.
I've taken.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
If we got you, like an old like an iPhone,
like just to text.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
Us with Nope, I would I would throw it away
that around this text us. The next text would be
from my android of the iPhone in the trash. You know,
I'm not doing.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
To this event. And uh in Dallas and I uh
someone asked for a picture take me, tande me their
phone and they were from England and their phone was
not Android that we have I think in the States even,
And he's like, yeah, none of you know, no one
uses iPhones in Europe.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
There's all really okay, not many.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Yeah, there's I mean, i'd say all, but obviously like yeah,
they're big Androids. I'm like, I hate I I'm not
a fan.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
You're like, I hate all you people. Yeah, man, I
would fit in over there.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Yeah, because it's all WhatsApp, you know, the WhatsApp users.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
That works very well. We might have to switch over
the Sunday group to What's App, you know.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
So I don't want to use in my phone another
app to have to use.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Don't I can't imagine crack being like, oh yeah, sure.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Let's use what No chance?

Speaker 1 (34:52):
No chance?

Speaker 2 (34:53):
All right, he's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No coming up next.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
The theory makes some sense, but does that mean it's
the reality that's on the way. Hang with us right
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio
he's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian. Know we're live from the
tirec dot com studios here, so we got some drama
down the stretch here. The Links and the Fever tied
at seventy one, just under four minutes to play.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
What do you think make the call? Jeff? Who comes
out on top?

Speaker 1 (35:22):
I think Indiana does. Clark just cooked someone else like
two minutes ago too, like right when we went to
break again, just like put someone on the ground as
a defender. I mean, you know, you can see Indiana
improving throughout the year, Like this is what you want
from a young team, is you know, it was rough
to start, you know, they they weren't as good. Clark

(35:42):
wasn't as good. Boston didn't start very fast. The coaching
was a little questionable, which I think is still questioning.
They were losing by twenty one points. They lust one
O two sixty six to Liberty, and then they just
beat the Liberty right like, they just played really well
against them. They're starting to win a lot of games
that they, you know, didn't win to the beginning. They

(36:03):
want it, they want it in Phoenix, and so they're
just sting an evolution Minnesota. I think there's the third
best record in the sport right now. So we're starting
to just see them improve each and every week. What
to have young players is what they should do. And
I think we're just they're much of a team they were,
uh just And we know that some voters for Rookie
the Year are just basing their their vote on who

(36:24):
finishes higher in the standings. So there's another voter confidence
for the Fever here, right, And another win puts them
two up on Chicago, and that gives Clark the Rookie
of the Year.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Yeah, well yeah, if they look at it like that,
you have to be saying that.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Out loud, like I'd actually be like, yeah, yeah, it's
going to Ever as the better record. Like that has
ever mattered for Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
It's just silly, man, It really is.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Like I'll put it this way. Your argument shouldn't be
so flimsy where it's like, okay, Fever have the better record.
It's Caitlin Clark. Now, this guy have the better record.
It's Angel Reese. Now it's back to Cluck. Come on, dude, really,
is that.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
What's so bad? Man?

Speaker 3 (37:06):
You got you gotta have more to your argument than
just that. Now, let me throw you throw this at
you in the game. We're about three minutes to go,
still deadlocked. We'll keep an eye on that. Jalen Brown,
Boston Celtics like finals MVP right, just want a championship.
He's not on Team USA. He's not in the Olympics
over here, So Kawhi Leonard, he was sent home with

(37:29):
his jacked up knee, and Team USA they grabbed Jalen
Brown's teammate Derek White, and so Jalen Brown he threw
out a theory where this is Nike. Nike is behind this.
They've got their thumb prints on the roster. Not too
long ago, you had Jalen Brown make a comment against Nike.

(37:51):
This is when the whole Kyrie Irving controversy was going on.
Kyrie endorsed a movie that was anti Semitic. Yes, and
Jalen Brown he posted around that time, since when does
Nike care about ethics? Nike had dropped Kyrie because of
this whole thing, and so Jalen Brown posted that on
social media. So his theory, Jalen Brown, is that, oh,

(38:15):
Nike didn't forget about this. Nike said no thumbs down
on Jalen Brown. That's why I'm not on Team USA.
It's an interesting theory. It doesn't mean it's a fact.
You know, this might be the case, could be the case.
It doesn't mean it's set in stone. And for sure
that's why Derek White's on the team and Jalen Brown isn't. Like,

(38:35):
is it possible that Team USA looked and said, hey,
Derek White is more of like a glue guy. This
would make sense to go with. It's possible that way too.
So why is one theory just set in stone and
the other theory is just no, no, no, that's clearly not
what happened.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
I don't understand that at all.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
So we see this, I think, all over now, not
just in sports, but in the absence of an answer
to something, we turn to conspiracies. Right, And because I'm
not sure that I don't think they probably they probably
didn't tell Jayleen Brown this is why you're not on
the team. They just said, Derek White. So in absence

(39:17):
of an actual explanation, you turn toward what must be
Nike's fault because they didn't tell you the reason. Why
do I think Nike has to say? Geez? I mean
if Phil Mike called, was like, no, Jayleen Brown. I
mean they probably listen, but I don't think Nike's doing

(39:37):
that to be to be honest, right, So yeah, I
think Derek White. You know, they they they have enough
players that play like Jaylen Brown. They needed Derek White,
like just a shooter, just like you had one more guy.
I can make five threes for you. It's not Brown's game.
Is that wrong with that? He can do it if
he if he if he needs to, it's not really

(40:00):
his game, right, So this is what this decision was
for them, Mike, Let's just add a shooter. Why not?
It's probably better for us to out a shooter and
then had a shooter and Derek White. Yeah, you think
inherently wrong with that.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
And that's where I think too, Where I get the
thought of Kawhi Leonard is a star player. So if
you're not buying, hey, we need a glue guy, well,
it's like, well you would have had a glue guy
to begin with. I get that, but is it at
least possible that Team USA said okay, instead of Kawhi
being on the squad, it would probably strengthen the roster
if we went more glue or went more three point shooting.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
Yeah, that's possible too, So it's not automatically a Nike thing.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
That's all right, all right, come it up next. This
is just flat out lame. We'll get to something that's
lame and also something that's the opposite of lame.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
In just a minute.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
We are broadcasting live from the tirack dot com studios
tire iraq dot com. We'll help get you there an
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road haz your protection
and over ten thousand recom mended installers tire rack dot com.
The way tire buying should be. We start with something
that's the opposite of lane. That would be your prediction, Jeff,
you nailed fever got it done. It was tied up

(41:10):
seventy one a piece with about four minutes to go,
and you said give me the road squad, and you
were right.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
They're playing better. This is a sign of I think
a sending player or a good player in basketball, and
you know it's not we sometimes do look at as
a negative, like when but I'll get to it. So
Kancart has seventeen points today When you watch the game
as we both did, Oh that's too much. She had seven.

(41:40):
I feel like the good basketball players have those games
where it's not their best game still got seventeen points.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
You know.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Yeah, sure, we often will say this about about NBA
players that are superstars, like Jason Tanner getting thirty three points.
You're like, i'ven I don't know. Yes, so it's not
It's not always right, but I do think it is
a good thing when you don't play your best and

(42:08):
still are able to have a game that's impactful, especially
in the fourth quarter. I'm also running right now. The
MLB Draft is tonight.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
Yeah, well, most of it's in the books already, you know,
like the first round. I think, has it started already
or those just projections? I think that's some of it.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
No, I think I think it's I think at at
seven PM tonight, I saw that the Oregon State second
basement is the favorite to go one overall. So yeah,
we have I guess we shouldn't cover that. I don't know, but.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Nonetheless, yeah, you know it's crazy to me is listen,
we get it. College baseball is not nearly as popular
as college football. MLB is not nearly as popular as
the NFL.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
I get that.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
So I'm not expecting the MLB draft to be anywhere
near as big as the NFL draft, but to the
point where it's like, oh is that today? Right, Like
it's so bad.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
What the MLB draft is? How can this be?

Speaker 3 (43:07):
Where we have three months of build up With the NFL,
that's all we talk about for months, and for baseball
it's like, oh, that's today, Oh did they start it yet?

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Or is that tonight? It's crazy where it is.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
It is, But I do I'll give baseball a little
bit of bit of a doubt here because the Paul
Skiing story. Right, last year, he was the pitcher for LSU,
one of the pictures for LSU that helped to win
a championship. Right, got those one hundred miles an hour.
He got drafted by the Pirates. He misses the first
two weeks of this season in minor leagues. They called up.
He's seventy's six and now at the year under two. Right,

(43:44):
he started for the National League in the All Star
Game tomorrow night, Tuesday night, i should say Tuesday night.
And that story is so rare where a guy comes
in in our lifetime, it's been you know, Kerry Wood, right,
who is the Mark pryor one of the Mark is
one of them who just sort of was so good

(44:05):
he got called up immediately. And and and there's even
been guys I think very rarely they could called up
in September when they could drafted in June, like you know,
like there's been those cases, very rare. But for the
most part, you're I think you're Cardinals Phantom, a Giants fan.
You know, I'll see the Giants draft someone tonight. That
player might never make it a double A. I'll never
see him play. So it is a little bit different

(44:28):
when you know the impact a draft pick has on
your franchise might not be felt for years. You don't
feel as connected to the draft. And also, the draft
features high school players who now we most of the
top players. I'm looking at the list right now as
are reading them on the screen. You know we saw
them play this postseason, pitch hit whatever. I don't know.

(44:52):
I didn't watch Jackson Prep high school play this year,
and so I think it makes it really difficult to
really get your team is drafting a high school player
that you have never watched before, no doubt, And so
I don't blame baseball for that. I Actually, I actually
blame Basketball's draft. I mean, that thing was I know

(45:15):
it wasn't the best year for the draft players, but
two days, I mean I didn't even know that thing
was even happened until the night it happened.

Speaker 3 (45:21):
Well, I would blame I'll blame ESPN this way because
they're carrying the draft or even MLB Network where there
are some names that we're familiar with, like Jack cagleon
from Florida and we saw him at least in the
College World Series, and like there are a couple of

(45:45):
names you're familiar with. They should maximize that. There should
be commercials like yo, the Draft is this Sunday, see
names like this guy and that guy.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
We saw this with summer league.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
I was watching I don't know who the other day
and they're showing Lebron in his summer league debut, Kevin
Durant in his summer league debut, Wemby last year in
summer league, and you're like, oh, shoot, there's been some
big names that have gone through summer league.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
It what's the whistle a little bit where it's like, okay,
maybe I'll check this out here.

Speaker 3 (46:16):
That's what they should do at a bare minimum with
the draft is just maximize the names that you might
be aware of and link them to the past. That's
what baseball is all about, is the nostalgia of the past.
They should have whatever, like footage of Ken Griffy Junior
getting draft or whatever. They can pull some stock footage
from that and just make it a bigger deal. I'm

(46:38):
not saying the NFL Draft, but just bigger than what
it is where you're like, oh, shoot, that's today.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
It's gotta be more buzz than that. It just has
to be.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
I'm with you there. It's also this time of year.
I think it's just you know, we're not maybe as
focused to the We're just not as sort of maybe
focused into sports right now. That might be some of
it as well, right.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
Yeah, might be a little bit of that. Our trusted
producer Bo Benson is with us. He's got something on that.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (47:10):
No, much like what Jeff said, echoing that, like I
know that I can turn on my TV in the
fall and see Caleb Williams on TV playing for the Bears.
I don't know when I can turn on my TV
and see you know whoever the Dodgers draft this year.
You know, it could be in five, six, seven years
and by then you've forgotten about him. So it's it's tough.
There's also too many rounds.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Hey, like, yeah, it is. I would go back to
the NBA draft. How many dudes were you not familiar with?
In this year's draft. There are a ton of names,
and yet they'd still promote it and be like, hey,
it's draft night and you'd see stars from the past
shaking hands with Stern or Silver and you're like, oh, okay,
you don't have to be aware of everybody in this draft.

(47:50):
If you're aware of guys from previous drafts, that's how
you market is.

Speaker 10 (47:54):
And then you get to the later rounds and you
have teams drafting guys that they know are never going
to play baseball, but they want to do it for fun.
Like I think the Rockies took Russell Wilson in the
MLB draft one.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
Yeah, that that's actually stopped as much because there's less rounds. Yeah,
so we don't end up having like the fiftieth rounds
just your your you know, your your, your scout's best
friends steel.

Speaker 10 (48:14):
I think the one intriguing thing I think this is
the first year now where teams can trade draft picks
in the MLB draft. That might be and that might
be interesting to watch, I know, and I think I
think the Royals just traded your draft pick yesterday.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
Oh wow, yeah interesting?

Speaker 3 (48:29):
Yeah yeah. Okay, Jeff Schwartz, Brian, know what you hear
on Fox Sports Radio. We circle back to something that's lame, right,
we checked the box something that was the opposite of lame.
That was you nailing your WNBA in game prediction of
the fever winning. Something that is lame. You talked about
this in the first hour, Jeff. It's the absolute just

(48:53):
stat chasing of Angel Reese. Now, let me start off positively, Jeff.
Fifteen straight games with a bubble double. That's a WNBA
record as a rookie. That's great. It's impressive. She's averaged
double figures in points, in rebounds for fifteen straight games.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
But okay, when.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
You get to the last game and her team is
losing by fourteen points, all right, she's got eight points
in the game, She's like.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
Pass me the ball, pass me the ball.

Speaker 3 (49:21):
She's three for thirteen in the game from the field.
She's made three shots. Again, they're down by fourteen, and
she's just trying to get two points to keep the
double double streak alive. That's just freaking lame. I'm sorry. Like,
I'd say the same thing if it was Caitlyn Clark
or whoever and they had a streak going. If Caitlin

(49:43):
today had a double double streak or whatever streak going
and she's down by fourteen points on the road and
she's like, pass me the ball, I need one more assist.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
It's like, what are we doing at this point? You're losing?
Who cares about a streak? If you're going down in
flames like that?

Speaker 1 (50:00):
Look, I think I I'll say this. I like the.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
This.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
I like a little the selfishness of understanding the moment
right and wanting to continue your record. Right, we see
stat padding happen, well, Russell Westbrook was stat padding that,
you know, the whole triple double year, right, blatantly, just
like sort of standing like by the basket waiting for
a rebound. Okay, like it you know, we've you know,

(50:31):
we've seen we've seen it happen before, but we don't
see it happen with young players right often. And it
was so blatant, right, and it happened the end of
end of the game, right, so for those who might
have missed it two games ago, not the lasting two
games ago. She needed one more point to to get

(50:52):
her double double. She had nine points, and I think
you know the X amount of rebounds ten It was ten, right,
it was nine points, and and I was and they
were winning, right, And there were fifteen seconds left and
they're up seven, and the game was over. This, this
was over. And most of the time when that happened,

(51:12):
you dribble the ball out, you had the ball, the referee,
you go on and live your day. Except Lander Reis
ran to the block, put her hands up and asked
for the ball. Not only that, two or three teammates
were pointing at the point guard who had the ball
to throw it into injuries and she got fouled and
made a foul shot and ended up getting her her

(51:34):
double double again. And we don't often see it as
blatant and as overt as that like. It was very
clear they were trying to get her the points. And
a lot of times in sports, when records are broken,
they're broken in the flow of the game. Right, You're
not going out of your way to break a record.
People feel like that's cheap, right, that's not really what

(51:54):
the record is about when you go out of your
way to get it, and you know, in a game
where she didn't particularly terribly well either, you know, so
it was a game where you didn't play terribly well
and the game was over. Instead of just being like, oh,
you know what, I didn't get it today, it didn't happen.
Go out of your way to try to get or
continue the record that we saw, I believe was yesterday

(52:15):
the streak ended, and again they're down by a lot
of points. Yea, and in a game when it's typically
over a couple of seconds left, they throw her the
ball again, Brian in the paint and the Liberty quadruple
team her.

Speaker 2 (52:29):
Yes, literally, you're not.

Speaker 1 (52:31):
Getting this on us, and you know, she ended up
not getting it. And it's not that even that she
didn't get it, it's that her team did not play
well again, which has happened, you know, fairly off. And
I think during this trying to get Angel all the
all the record streak, but that her body language afterwards,

(52:53):
what it looked like she was more upset that she
didn't break the me not break I keep saying, break
continue the record, more than she was upset she lost
the game, right, and then that rust people the wrong way.

Speaker 3 (53:03):
Yeah, it's man, I had a flashback. I cannot remember
the name of the player. This is a long time ago.
It was so long ago I believe Doug Collins was
still a head coach in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
But there was a point in.

Speaker 3 (53:18):
The game a guy was trying to get a triple
double and in the final seconds he went up for
a layup and missed it on purpose to get the
final rebound he needed and then got to put back
at the very end. And I'm almost positive it was
Doug Collins. He walked right by him, Like the guy
went over to shake Doug Collins hand. He walked right

(53:38):
by him, and he was like, that was cheap, that
was bs, no way I'm shaking your hand, that sort
of thing. That's what it felt like. Where to your point,
if you're doing this in the flow of the game,
fine and listen, I'm not this I'm not like all
for protecting the sanctity of records or anything like.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
I'll give some wiggle room, you know, I'm not that uptight.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
But when you're down by fourteen and you're blatantly trying
to keep.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
A record, together. You can't sell me.

Speaker 3 (54:09):
She's had some quotes about I'm a team player, I'm
all about the team.

Speaker 7 (54:12):
No, you're not.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
When you're all about that, when.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
You're trying to blatantly keep a streak alive, you can't
sell me on being more about the team than more
about yourself.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
That's just the reality of it. That's not negative, that's
not hatred.

Speaker 3 (54:26):
I'd say the same thing if Caitlin Clark was in
that position. I just think it's lame and I don't
want it to be about her coming up short for
the sixteenth straight double double. I don't want it to
be more about that than the fifteen she had. It's
an impressive streak, but it does cheapen the streak and
it shifts your perspective if you're stat chasing like that.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
Yeah, and again, I think what we discussed early on
is really in play here right where the style of play. Well, again,
not that bad player, obviously, what she's doing is rookie,
is very impressive, and she leaves the league. I think
in rebounding right like that, she's an incredible rebounder, but
she is not a vertical player, not a player that

(55:10):
that gets that gets any sort of height on her
on her jump shots or in the paints or rebounding.
And we tend to to really enjoy watching players in
basketball that either shoot the ball very far or jump
very high, do a combination of both, or if you're
like a freak of freaking nature, you know, maybe you're
just you know, you're just shack right, you just jump

(55:30):
very very high, but you're seven feet tall and you're
just a freak show, right. So I think her style
of play and then not playing as well in that
style of play, which he hasn't shot very well in
the last two games, and then trying to stab Pat
on top of that, or like come on, come on, yeah,
you know you're your favorite lie, Like what are we
doing here? Yeah? Like what? So I think if it's

(55:52):
if it's Caitlyn Clark, maybe and she had a down game,
but you know, she hits a step back three to
break a double double record, You're probably like, oh, cool,
you made a tough shot. You know, like you know, yeah,
you know, you made a tough shot. You're cool. But
like blatantly begging for the ball and asking for a layup,
I think rubs people the wrong way. Again, I don't

(56:13):
I see why people don't like I see, well you
don't like it. I don't can not work that worked
up about it. But yeah, I get why people don't
appreciate the effort to continue to do and again it
seems like it has been at the expense of her team.
Where her team is losing by a lot, she's still
in the game and trying to get one more layup.

Speaker 3 (56:33):
It's like, okay, at this point, come on, man, all right,
like that's about I didn't lose sleep over it. I
didn't turn beat red while watching this. I just had
a smile on my face, like really, that's what we're
doing here. That's really what my reaction was. But hey,
the streak is over, and uh, you know she moves forward.

Speaker 2 (56:51):
That's uh, that's where we're at with it. I'll tell
you this.

Speaker 3 (56:54):
It was eye opening where the Rookie of the Year
odds were what they were while the streak was going
on for Angel Reese, you know what I mean, Like
Caitlin Clark is minus a thousand to win WNBA Rookie
of the Year while the Angel Reese double double streak
was intact. You know, It's like when the streak ends,

(57:15):
what's the Rookie of the Year resume for Angel Rees
at that point, Well, see.

Speaker 1 (57:19):
Here's the thing about sort of picking and choosing something
arbitrary is the wrong word, but something that you know,
doesn't really give the full picture of play, right, Because
so here's a question if if you go have a
game injuries, go seventeen points and nine rebounds, Yeah, doesn't
get a double double, right, or goes ten points, ten rebounds,

(57:41):
shoots five for seventeen, Absolutely, which is the better game?
The seventeen and nine is.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
Better, no doubt, Absolutely it is.

Speaker 1 (57:48):
But we're choosing to reward the best the worst play
because of some streak, you know, right, And that's why
the rookie year thing was always interesting to me because
no one was saying was pointing out plays or play style.
They're like double double double double. Yeah, but that doesn't
really explain what's happening on the court. Right, And now

(58:13):
that it's over, like the attention on her play shouldn't
change because this is over. Now she's still good for
basketball player.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
Yeah, it's just the CES version of Wait but already now.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
I'm just gonna say she stinks because she doesn't no
double anymore, No, no, But the way people talk about her.
All the matter was to her getting double doubles.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
No, I get it, no doubt. We turn our attention
to ball.

Speaker 3 (58:34):
Right around the corner here, Jeff, Adam Kaplan will join us,
and I want to ask him about a team that
continues to drag its heels that's on the way. He's
Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian, No, stay with us right here
on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Radio. He's
Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian know. We're live from the Tireck
dot com studios. Very pleased to welcome in Adam Kaplan

(58:57):
FSR NFL Insider inside the Birds and fair.

Speaker 2 (59:02):
To say a tennis head. Were you watching al Karaz
this morning cap? Yeah, and I predicted he'd win the
whole thing.

Speaker 11 (59:07):
That was kind of like and the odds are pretty
good for him if if you were looking at from
betting standpoint coming into the tournament. So yeah, look, I
thought with Djokovic and Jeff could talk this about being
a professional athlete when when you you know, he had
surgery like about five weeks ago for meniscus. He had
the the meniscus trim to get together as far as
he did. It's really remarkable to me. I that's why

(59:29):
I didn't think he could do it, but he got
to the finals. But man al Karaz at twenty one
years old, it's pretty special what he's doing here.

Speaker 3 (59:36):
It is, and he just runs down every ball, you know.
It's it's amazing how athletic al Karaz is. But I
know you're all about ball as well, meaning football of course. Yeah,
I'm curious. I'm a Finns fan from birth here cap
love the Dolphins, and they just continue to drag their
heels with a tua monstrous contract extension. I know it's

(59:57):
a matter of time, but are you surprised it's been
dragging out as long as it has?

Speaker 11 (01:00:03):
No, this is what I predicted. I didn't think they
could figure out what the right number would be. They
clearly want to extend his contract, but figuring out what
the right numbers should be, what the guarantee its signing
should be, with with the injury history that he does
when he's their guy. They took him over justin Herbert.
It's been well documented, but in to a state he
wants a market deal. It's going to be interesting to

(01:00:23):
see where this thing if it gets done. Where it
gets done. You know, he's on his fifth year option,
so he's under contract, and.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Now will you not show up?

Speaker 11 (01:00:31):
You know, by the way, the rookies have to report
on Tuesday and the veterans a week after that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
That's when you get the ball wrong.

Speaker 11 (01:00:38):
When if the deal's not done when the veterans come in,
that would surprise me.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
The off season hard Knocks, I think has been almost
better than the end season Hard Knocks or training camp
hard Knocks. The Giants gave us a little look into
how Brian Burns got traded for and also Sakuon Barkley
to the Burns thing. Can you kind of tell people
like I think people think these trades and contract negotiations

(01:01:04):
just take weeks and they really don't write at him.
It's a very quick process when teams are motivated to
get things done.

Speaker 11 (01:01:10):
Well, okay, so Jeff, let's take the latter that it
depends motivation is like from the from the Giants standpoint,
when Dan Morgan, the general manager of the Panthers, you know,
threw it out there if you if you watch the video,
I think it was at the Senior ball for not missing.

Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Yeah, it was like shocked he's like, oh yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:01:24):
I was like, wow, yeah, the fact that that got
I mean, I look, I give Joe Shane credit and
Dan Morgan credit. They're very close friends. They worked together
before previously with Buffalo, so they know each other. And
I love that they took you behind the scenes. So
here's the real story. I don't know if you guys
know this. So two years ago now, the Rams when

(01:01:47):
they could, when the Panthers were having trouble getting Burns
his deal done, I know, they offered him twenty five
million a year.

Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
He turned it down.

Speaker 11 (01:01:54):
They got to as much as twenty eight he turned
it down, and the Panthers were actually offered two ones
correct and at two for Brian Burns and the Panthers
turn it down, and talking to Panthers about it, what
they said was, look, if we start giving up our
best players, how we're gonna build a foundation. And I

(01:02:15):
think what some people felt around the league was that
with Brian Burns, he's a good player, very good pass
rusher by the really good edge rusher, but he's not
elite and if the Panthers really should have taken that deal,
And then the deal that the Panthers wound up taking
was really way far less than probably he was worth.

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
That was surprising to me that they did not get
more for him. To be honest with you, Cap, I
thought it was interesting. We're in the NBA Jalen Brunson
with the Knicks. He signed a deal for one hundred
and thirteen million dollars less than he would be eligible
for next year. If you look at that in NFL standards, right,
if a quarterback wanted to leave that much money on

(01:02:53):
the table, would the nfl BA get involved and push
back and be like no, no, no, no, the way MLB
would do that.

Speaker 11 (01:02:59):
Yeah, Aaron Rodgers took a at the time of the trade,
and there are certain things that had to happen.

Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (01:03:05):
If Rogers, if they the Jets are going to complete
that trade, he had to get his his deal redone
and he actually took far less than he really should
have taken. And that, you know, so much as Rogers
gets courticized for certain things, we could debate the abildity
of that. He did take a pretty significant pay reduction,
uh to get that deal done, and that that was
actually done last year to start the season.

Speaker 7 (01:03:26):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (01:03:26):
And look I give the guy credit, I mean, not
everyone would do that, but he did it and unfortunately
he got hurt and that that that you know, he's
back now, he's healthy with the achilles by the way,
the Jets report this week. But yeah, it does really happen, uh,
I know the and I'll tell you what and Jeff
could attest to this. When agents call the nfl PA
and they negotiating deal and they talk to them about it,

(01:03:49):
and the fl PA goes when they're not happy with
what the agent may be taking, they let them know
it and they actually will get actively involved from talking
to both sides before.

Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
No, it's yeah, it's interesting stuff right there. We've got
Adam Kaplan with us here FSR NFL insider. Yeah, I
don't know if you saw Tyreek Hill. He was on
Sports Center and he was campaigning for to a tongue
of I low to get a big deal. And they
also asked him about his top five quarterback list and
he goes Mahomes to ah Lamar Dak Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Is what Baker Mayfield when he went with their gap.

Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
It might be unfair off the top of your head,
but what is your top five? Yeah, yeah, I don't
know if he's in the top So what does your
top five look like?

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Off the top of hear? So you have to give
it a criteria. Is it just for this year?

Speaker 11 (01:04:37):
Yeah, I mean we're just talking about where players are, Like,
you know, I think we actually talked about this like
two years ago, and I put Stafford in my top five.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Some people thought I was in my.

Speaker 11 (01:04:44):
Mind, Stafford's an absolute stud. I mean he won't he's
a Stepelo Hall of Fame. He won't make it, but
he has won a super Bowl. But again, it's it's
really where players are at their career. So like Dak
Prescott was up for a deal, no is he's He's
still top ten quarterback. You know my top five. That's
a tough call here, that's a tough call. I'm putting
Josh Allen in my top three. Again, it's I'm gonna

(01:05:06):
give my top five and not necessarily in any order.
I'm putting Burrow in there. I'm putting Josh Allen in there. Yeah,
Mahomes is one. Obviously, Mahomes is going to be one.
Now after that it becomes about what you're looking for
in a quarterback and what you believe in a guy
that's going to enter my top seven, which will floor people.

(01:05:27):
I know it's way out there. You said just for
this year. See, I'm gonna put this way out there.
It's I'm going to expand it the top seven because
you're going to finish as a potential MVP candidate. That's
Jordan Love with the Packers. I'm just telling you, folks,
I'm gonna I'm in early with him. He was best
quarterback in football second half. I'm telling you, folks, this
guy's coming on here. Put the team on his back.

(01:05:47):
Ask the Cowboys what they think about Jordan.

Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Love, Well, yeah, he played very well then the last season.
It was sort of online discourse last week about sort
of the pressure on Lamar Jackson too, sort of bring
home a championship to Multimore at least at least kind
of get past the Chiefs. Obviously. How much pressure is
that you think on that team to get it done soon.

(01:06:10):
They've obviously been the one seed now twice since Lamar
has been a starting quarterback, and it failed to get
to a Super Bowl.

Speaker 11 (01:06:19):
All right, So a couple of things here when you
look at the ravens Lamar Jacksons, so Todd Monk and
the offense coordinators in a second year with the team,
and their feeling is from talking to people close the
situation that they their relationship will grow.

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
They'll'll give them more and we'll give them more volume.
They'll give them more things to do.

Speaker 11 (01:06:34):
But of course they had Derrick Henry and they felt
that the run game was not there, and now they've
got the ability to do whatever they want with a
run game. But the big story of this team Zach
Or the youngest coordinator, whether it's offense, defensive, special teams,
at thirty one years old. You might remember his career
got cut short due to a neck injury. This is

(01:06:54):
a big step for him. He steps in there for
Mike McDonald. That's the story for this team. I mean,
I get it. But Lamar's not done well in the playoffs.
That's a fact. It's indisputable because it's a fact. I'm
not so worried about him. I think they take another step.
I'd be more and you had Derek Henry, I'd be
more worried about the defense. Because they decided not to
go outside the organization. They want to keep the same scheme.

(01:07:15):
I get that they got some issues on their back end.
That to me, if you want to talk about this
team advancing the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
We just don't know about Zach orcause he hasn't done before.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
I have a question about sample size when it comes
to playoff wins and losses and performance, because you know,
often we hear we talk about Lamar's playoff performance other
quarterbacks like him, and people say it's a small sample size.
And while I agree, I mean, you know, playoff games
are few and far between. It at what point does

(01:07:45):
it become this is who they are in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
It's a great point.

Speaker 11 (01:07:49):
And obviously it's subjective because there's no it's there's no.

Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
Way to say that.

Speaker 11 (01:07:56):
But when you look at Lamar's performance now he's two
and four, you always have to take the context.

Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Well, why did they lose? Was it just him?

Speaker 11 (01:08:04):
Because if a quarterback throw like like Jalen Hurts on
the Super Bowl, right, I mean he had a bad fumble,
You could not have played any better than he did
it two years ago and against the Chiefs, Yes they lost.
It's like the old It's like the people say that
Dan Marino shouldn't be in the Hall thing because he
never won.

Speaker 7 (01:08:19):
A Super Bowl.

Speaker 11 (01:08:19):
Gosh, It's like, at what point do we be logical
about it. Go buy what you saw? Was it the
quarterback's fault? If the quarterbacks struggled, you got to put.

Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
It on him.

Speaker 11 (01:08:29):
I mean it's you know, it's it's like okay, and then,
by the way, same token Trent jill For won a
Super Bowl. Well, they didn't ask Trent jill For to
do anything right against the Giants in two thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
That hide the quarterback.

Speaker 11 (01:08:41):
Don't let him throw a win with a running game
in defense? Is he a better quarterback than Dan Marino? No,
it's it's context. Yeah, No, it's well said, Cap.

Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
Well, hey man, we'll let you run cap anything crazy
on the plans on the agenda tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
No, but I gotta make my training cap tour. But
I want to. Let's next week talk about our art art.

Speaker 11 (01:08:59):
Let's do it top ten quarterbacks and I think we okay,
let's go over the criterier for.

Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Making it just as ye.

Speaker 11 (01:09:05):
Yeah, let's say we'll go into the season, Okay, where
the quarterbacks are?

Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Now?

Speaker 11 (01:09:10):
I know I'm curious where you guys who put Aaron
Rodgers because again he barely played last season, he's forty
years old.

Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
But I'm just very curious.

Speaker 11 (01:09:17):
About how our top tens will look different from you,
A way to look the same.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Let's do that.

Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
Let's plan on that next week cap top ten for us.
All three will compare notes a cap. We'll catch you later,
Bud Yep, there he is Adam Kaplan FSR NFL Insider
inside the Birds podcast. And look we got advanced show
prep for next week already. That's beautiful right there.

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Top ten quarterbacks. I think we'll have the same We'll
have the same first one.

Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
We should we better just think all of us should
have the same first one.

Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
I feel like two is pretty set in stone.

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
I think so too, Josh, all right, yes, I think
so as well. And then it can go from there.

Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
We got our guy Martin Weiss with us here.

Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
He took a baseball cheap shot at me in the
first What's gonna happen this?

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
I don't know. I don't know what Martin, what's going on?

Speaker 8 (01:10:03):
I'm playing it straight today, Brian, you know, but you said, Man,
if I'm gonna say it to both behind the glass,
I gotta say it.

Speaker 7 (01:10:10):
It was the first chance I had.

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
I appreciate that, man, Nothing wrong with that. It's good.

Speaker 8 (01:10:14):
Oh the guy you were thinking of earlier Anthony Bowie,
I believe is the guy that right past Doug Collins.

Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
That's what was Wow, good poll by. You do you
remember that?

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
I think it was one rebound he needed and he
intentionally missed a layup to get that rebound.

Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
I think Martin the same age. I don't think we
remember that.

Speaker 8 (01:10:33):
Yeah, we're about the same age. Jeff much more professional
success than me, but about the same age.

Speaker 7 (01:10:39):
But you see, see Brian, you know what I'm saying.
In the first hour, I take the second hour, I
give you know what I'm saying, this a circle of life.

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
Who knows? Third hour?

Speaker 7 (01:10:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
I'm gonna just break for him.

Speaker 8 (01:10:49):
Past at wimbled and Carlos al Kraz beat Novak Jokovic Djokovic,
which ever pronounced it? And the men's single final the
straight said second year in a row. That was the
final second year in a row. That was the exact
same result. Spain beat England two to one in the
Euro twenty twenty four final.

Speaker 7 (01:11:08):
Per the Fox broadcast, this is how it sounded every.

Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
Three times he smister in Spain teens eleven small the
old kings of European football regain.

Speaker 8 (01:11:19):
The crown like you said earlier in the show, Brian,
big day for Spain Alcoraz first, then Spain soccer, yes second,
our football.

Speaker 7 (01:11:27):
As my man said on the broadcast, there.

Speaker 8 (01:11:29):
Spain the first team to win four European championships. In
the WNBA, the Fever beat the Links eighty one to
seventy four. Kayla Clark five for seventeen from the floor,
two four eleven from three, six assists, six turnovers for
a total seventeen points, with ten coming in the fourth quarter.
Aces beat the Mystics eighty nine to seventy seven. That
MLB draft, you guys were talking about, that starts in
about half an hour. But in baseball today games already

(01:11:52):
played by the pros. The Tigers walked off the Dodgers
for the second day in a row. Today's score was
four to three. The Orioles came back to beat the
Yankees six to five. Baltimore is the leader in the
Al East heading into the All Star Break. A's Meat
the Phillies eighteen to three, multiple guys with multiple home
run games and Brett Rooker and Lawrence Butler raised Blank

(01:12:13):
the Guardians two to nothing. Red Sox over the Royals
five to four, Marlin's top the Reds three to two.
Clubs meet the Cardinals eight to three, Rockies over the
Mets eight to five, Pirates beating up in the lowly
white Sox nine to four. Rangers double up the Astros
four to two, Brewers nine Nationals three to go ahead
and wrap up that baseball slate as we are heading

(01:12:34):
into the All Star break, and now I'm throwing it
back to two All Stars, Jeff Schwartz Bright Now back
to you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
Thank you Martin. Good stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
It's funny when we're talking about baseball bets, Jeff. One
of the baseball bets I had today, it's hilarious. I
had the Orioles over the Yankees, Okay, and so the
Orioles are leading three to two in the ninth inning,
they give up a three run homer, and I'm like,
why do.

Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
I even bet?

Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
Why do I Bother then what happens in the ninth
ending the bottom of the ninth, Yeah, Orioles are down
by two, but the way they did it, bases are loaded,
grounded a short game over, Vulty boots it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
We're still alive, down by one run.

Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Now, then it's a fly ball to the left field great,
we lose, Nope, misplayed by Verdugo Orioles walk it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Off like ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
So that's what I think I'm gonna start saying, Jeff, like,
I think there's something with the betting gods where if
they feel you teetering, they just kind of rain you
back in. You know, as soon as you're like, why
do I even bet? Meaning like I should stop betting,
They're like, no, no, no, don't do that. Here's a
garbage win to keep you in vest so try it

(01:13:51):
next time. Why do I even bet? And then maybe
it goes your way.

Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
I did I did to you today with a Kelsey Plumb.
I text you it was like, I need one more points.
You haven't scored in ten minutes, just four minutes left.
Why don't even bother doing this? And immediately scored yep
after it. Yeah, yeah, just keep me engaged, I think, yeah,
w wagers. No, it's infuriating and and it just it
just it's it never makes me happy. Even days when

(01:14:18):
I win, I'm not like, I'm like, oh well, now
when I lose, I won't lose as much.

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
Even when you're when you win, you're disgusted with.

Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
My birthday was Thursday, I think I had like a
three no baseball day, and I was like, well, that
makes up for the seven I went.

Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
Two days ago, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
You never, You're never. You're like, well, A'll just lose
that in futures or you know, just whatever else I'll
wage on between.

Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
It's hilarious too, because you don't operate like that in life.
You know, if somebody gets you a birthday present, you're
not like, Wow, this makes up for the sad gift
you got me last year.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
You know, you're just happy. You're happy you got a gift.

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Yeah, I don't keep score all the.

Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
Time, and we both don't wager enough where it's life
changing over the direction. So to be like upset that
I lost, you know, a twenty five dollars you know,
anytime score because Loukaku got a goal disallowed because var
said he was slightly off sides, and I'm like so furious,

(01:15:22):
like it just it just it is one of those
things about about sports wagering and and the thing about it.
Here's what they get you, guys. We've given a lot
of advice on the show, but here's how they get you, okay,
is when you stop wagering because you've had a couple
of bad days. That's when they get you, because you

(01:15:43):
if you have a system or process that works for
you, you have to wager through the bad days. Do you
get through the good days? Because you don't, you're going
to have bad days. So even if you have, I
think I have to add it up for the weekend.
But I had I think Friday was a really bad
baseball day, or it might have been Wednesday and wins
there Friday. And you know, if I just said, you
know what, I've lost too much money. I think one

(01:16:05):
to five or something. I lost too much money. I
am not betting tomorrow. Well that I wouldn't have had
the you know, the the day went perfect. You know,
like you have to keep doing it otherwise you end
up losing all the money.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Yeah, stay on the train, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
All right, coming up next, We've debated these two in
every way except this way. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian
now hanging with us right here on Fox Sports Radio.
It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian.
No so Bill Belichick, mister media.

Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Yeah. For the twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Four season, Jeff, you see this, He's gonna be on
Inside the NFL. He'll be there. He'll also be part
of the Pat McAfee show. He's also going to be
on the Manning Cast. So we got Belichick three sixty five,
three sixty pretty much right, like all you.

Speaker 1 (01:16:56):
Think he would be great. I really wish that bell
Check would have shown some personality while he was coaching.
He could have been a good coach and shown us
some personality. Yeah, I think I like watching unside the NFL.
I like watching, you know, the new cast. Ryan Clark
and and Chris Chris Long is fantastic, and you had
in Bill Belichick, and I just like programmer where I

(01:17:18):
can learn about football and learn about what's happening in
the game, and that feels like that's one of them.
The Matchup Show obviously is one of those as well.
You know, I don't watch as much Manning Cast as
I used to, but you obviously, those two guys are fantastic.
I think this is it's great. I think Bill's gonna
be really good at it.

Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
I love the NFL Matchup Show. They've been doing that forever.
I'm surprised they don't have a better time slot for
that thing.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
It's so good. It's like in the middle of the night.
I don't understand that.

Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
So I actually was with Gret Cosel this weekend, who
does in that show for thirty years now? He actually said,
the ratings have been really good, actually, even though the
time slot is terrible.

Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
Son or so it's like, what is the But yeah,
it's a great show.

Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
My question is this right?

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
We've talked about Brady or Belichick ad nauseam, like who
is more vital for the Patriots success? Forget about all that,
forget about all that spin it forward. Who's gonna be
better in the media. Is it gonna be Brady or
do you think it's gonna be Belichick?

Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
Good question. They're gonna do sort of the same role
where their analysts work, right. I think that Brady is
gonna be would be better than Belichick in the in
the during games, like what they're doing now. I think
Belichick's just knowledge and history of the sport is gonna

(01:18:47):
be really shown off in the formats he chose to do.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
I do too, It's well said.

Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
I think that I think Brady could shine brighter in
the like the media obligations that Belichick is going to
have Brady has the much harder job where you got
to be scinct, you got to get to the point,
you got to do it in you know, fifteen seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
That's hard.

Speaker 3 (01:19:10):
Yeah, to think that fast and cram as much in
to that time. Where if he's just on the Manning
cast and Brady can just kick back and observe random
things with no time limits, that's a much easier gig
for Belichick.

Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
And Brady has a Super Bowl this year with Fox
as well, so there's just a lot of pressure on
his job. Is hard, man, Yeah, it's much it's much
more difficult.

Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
I think that I think Brady's going to be really
good at what he does. I agree, I do too,
but I think they like the critics. They are going
to pick on every little tiny thing, especially early on. Man,
there's going to be no forgiveness with that guy.

Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
It's so hard to call games to just walk into
number one booth, uh network. Yes, it's just supremely difficult,
and yeah, everything he does will be scrutinized, even though
I think he will be good at the job and
it's a weird games to figure it out.

Speaker 3 (01:20:10):
It will if it's weird, where if Michael Jordan who's
recognized as the goat in the NBA, go to basketball.
If he started commentating games, if he was the color analyst,
there'd be so much forgiveness with MJ.

Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
But with Brady, I don't know what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
He's just not nearly as popular, getting paid a ton
of cash.

Speaker 2 (01:20:27):
Greg Olsen taking over for him. No forgiveness man.

Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
Coming up next. Props to this league for getting it right.
That's on the way. Props to this league forgetting it right.

Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
That is on the way.

Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
We are broadcasting live from the tierrack dot com studios
tire rack dot com. We'll help get you there an
unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com the way
tire buying should be.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
So hey. Props to MLB.

Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
We talked to Trash about them screwing up the promotion
for the draft right where you're like, oh, shoot, that's tonight,
Like that's a problem. They did get one thing right.
Paul Skeens All Star Game starter for the National League.
What is this the fifth time in MLB history that
a rookie will be a starter, starting pitcher in the

(01:21:18):
All Star Game? And Jeff, this is the thing, man,
We're on the same page on this one. There's just this.
We just had fireworks on the fourth of July, right,
and every now and then there's a firework where you're
like ooh ah, right, like that's Paul Skeen's game where
it's power, right, can blow you away with the fastball.

(01:21:38):
There's this wow factor there, and he's going to start
for the NL. That's magnificent. That is great for baseball
that they made that decision.

Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Look, Baseball, we both agree, often does knock out of
their own way, right. They make decisions that we think
are quot quote easy to make, and they make the
wrong decision. I mean, for heaven's sake, they their exhibition
All Star Game meant home field advantage for the World Series.
Like they've made some they've had they've had mistakes in

(01:22:10):
the past. I still think not wearing their their you know,
their uniforms in the All Star Game is kind of
silly and defeats the purpose of of all that. But nonetheless,
they got this one right. This was an easy decision
to make, Brian. It was it's a superstar who is
emerging in a league that needs superstars. The league that

(01:22:35):
needs the public to know those superstars are. It's not
just any super the public to know who they are.
And Skeens is a marketable athlete. He throws one hundred
and two miles an hour. He is a player who
has a famous girlfriend. The right way to put it,
a popular in a popular girlfriend. It's someone who is

(01:22:56):
very well known at the highest NL earner on the
the women's side in college towards maybe of all college athletes.
And Libby Dunna like, this is a smart marketing strategy
to have him included as a starter in the All
Star Game. And so I do know, Oh, Chris Sale
earned it when they earned what Paul Skins earned. Have

(01:23:17):
you watched him pitch? It's an exhibition game. Start start
the guy that could be the face of your of
your league. So, dude, this made total sense to me,
and I'm glad that they that they did it. They
made the right decision for once, which they again baseball
is not always known for doing.

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
Yeah, and I think it helped the decision and worked
out better if they were even going down the wrong
path in my opinion of starting Chris Sale because he
started today for the Braves. So he was ineligible to
pitch in the All Star Game. Well, hey, if that
assisted them in their decision making, great, because I don't
want to hear that Paul Skeens with eighty nine strikeouts

(01:23:59):
a six O record, his era is one point nine, right,
like when you're one point nine zero and eleven starts
like spare me o.

Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
He hasn't earned it that. That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (01:24:11):
You can at least make a solid argument he should
be the All Star Game starter. And this is the
thing too, there's real buzz with him. Is there more
buzz with Schemes or Chris Salek? At this point this
is an exhibition game.

Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
What does it matter. It's better for baseball if Skien starts.

Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
And by the way, Skiens also just almost through no
hitter too, So on top of that, yeah, he's popular
for the Pirates took him out about a nine nine pitches,
I think, so it's controversy about that. But the fact
is is that he's also popular in the moment for
pitching really, really well the last time he pitched.

Speaker 3 (01:24:51):
Yeah, it's funny too, because I'd compare it to radio
really is if you look at Major League Baseball, if
you compare it to a radio thing. The two the
main things that you're judged on with the ratings are
kume and something called TSL. So cum is how many
people do you get in the door, how many people
at least flip on your broadcast and then time spent listening,

(01:25:13):
how long do they stay? If you compare that to baseball,
Paul Skemes is your cume, you know what I mean,
Like you're going in the door to be like, all right,
Skeens is on the mound. He might be facing Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
I'm in.

Speaker 3 (01:25:28):
I want to see that, and then you might stick
around for a little while if you go in the
door and start watching the game in the first place. So, yeah,
he's gonna mean way more for baseball in terms of
that getting you to flip on the broadcast. Then Chris
Sale is gonna be And so I just thought that
was an absolute no brainer. And hey, props to MLB

(01:25:51):
for getting it right. He should be the starter.

Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
Absolutely for once. We'll getting around applause. You know they
did the right thing here? Yeah, absolutely thing.

Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Something else round of applause here, Jeff, you're fired up
for a video game to be released on Friday. Huh,
we got he had Sports College Football twenty five and
they've been promoting this. They had Lebron playing as Ohio State.
He had a pick six and he's like, welcome to
the horseshoe.

Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
That's funny. I like that sound bye.

Speaker 3 (01:26:21):
How about Travis Hunter with Colorado the dB slash wide
receiver and he's like, basically paraphrasing this game is very realistic.
The Colorado offensive line can't block at all? Is what
those are his teammates out?

Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
Yeah, it was. He he flamed him pretty bad. It was.
It was not great. It was It was a quintessential
Colorado play because they they transon was actually playing quarterback
in that moment against Sugar Sanders. But it's a three
man rush, so three defenders were rushing. The offense line

(01:26:59):
had great blocking. He ran out of the pocket, immediately,
ran around, did not tell the ball, got sacked and
blaming the offensive why. It's like a quid essential perfect
clip for Colorado. And what what I think their offense
might end up being this season. I'm not sure it's
gonna be. It'd be better, but I don't know how
much better, Brian. I. You know, we multitasks, right, we

(01:27:23):
look at what we talked about you know, we're watching
you know, we're watching TV at the same time that
we're doing radio and things like that, and we're watching sports.
Right we're watching MLB Draft right now, we'll put on
we'll be done with the show. But if the COPO
final was on right now, I'll be watching it. Sure
During COVID uh Big Cat from barstool right Dan Katz,

(01:27:45):
he was streaming NT double A twenty fourteen, the last
version of it, every night Coach Dougs he had he
had coach that worked worked from Mike Toledo won a
championship at Tennessee in Florida State is a nividator. I
watched it every single night. I just watched him stream
the first time playing this new game. He's played just

(01:28:08):
one like I am. I love because they're playing right now.
It's Wiscontent against JMU. I don't have time to play.
I don't think I thought about, like, well, I have
time to get the game. We'll try to invest in
learning how to play. Can I play? You have an
Xbox I play Call of Duty. I don't know, two

(01:28:29):
hours a week composed, so maybe that's what four games
something like that. Maybe, so I might buy it and
have fun with it to be part of the cool crowd.
But once football starts, I don't have any time to
play video games, so this might be something I just
do until August first, whenever we get going here with
more with the ball Buffe. But I love how much

(01:28:50):
it's making people happy about college football. Oh yeah, and
it's bringing back memories whether you're a child, teenager in college,
right out of college of playing this game. And there's
a pride in obviously your school if your school is
good in this game, but just there's a lot of people.
We all think we can be general managers and talent evaluators.

(01:29:13):
This is an opportunity to do that because the video like,
you're playing a video game, like you get to choose
the players, you're recruiting players, you're choosing the plays you're
choosing to play. And so there's a pride fact that
all of us haven't been good at sports video games.
I feel like for that reason. So I'm bracket right
to friends all those things. So I'm excited for it.
It's good for the sport. Yes, we're getting into dude,

(01:29:34):
I'm real Reports today about Florida standing Clemson going the
Big tent and it's gonna be big twelve in a year.
Like just the sport is looking unrecognizable, the video game
looks recognizable like it looks like it should, and so
it's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (01:29:49):
It's fun too because you get a lot of these
athletes opting in. They get a little cash for that,
but you'll see their names in the video game, right,
Like Arch Manning just did ian. He did a funny
video with his uncle Eli Manning and that sort of thing.
So I think that part of it is cool too,
where you're not going to have these generic names, right,

(01:30:11):
you'll have the real names, right of the players that
opt in, that's cool. Yeah, most of them didn't like
high percentage did for sure. And you're right, it's good
for college football where that's one of the things with
NIL where we benefited from it, right, it's not just
the players benefiting from it. Like if I play a
video game, if I'm playing Madden, I don't want some

(01:30:32):
generic name, you know, I want to play. If I'm
playing with the Chiefs, I want Mahomes number fifteen at quarterback.
I don't want some random character who sort of looks
like Mahomes that is named you know, McGillicuddy or whatever, right, Like,
it's much better to have the actual names in there.
And if it gets the nostalgia going for college football,

(01:30:53):
that's awesome. Like, there have been a lot of drawbacks
with some of the realignment and the constant chain. It
might not be exactly the way you want it, and
I get it. You probably if you're a college football fan.
I'm a diehard. You are too, Jeff. You've probably had
a beef or an issue with something that's happened in
college football over the last handful of years. This is

(01:31:15):
something to get behind and to you know, feel the
fun again. There still are some great rivalries and college
football overall is great. So I'm just I'm happy that
something positive is back again.

Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Yes, I had my pactual conference disappear from me. I
have been very upset at college college college sports. So no,
I'm with you on kind of bringing the joy, you know,
some joy back in this. And I do think it's important.
We talked about this with baseball, like name recognition, right,
and you know that you have players that we follow

(01:31:48):
as fans, but the big names of all the sides
to be in this and so it's a it's a
good deal. I'm glad it's back. I mean it's back
because I law suits essentially, which I mean, you know,
sometimes that's the way life works. But I'm glad it's back.
I think we're excited to play it if we can
have time. Are you going to be able to play?
Did your video game guy?

Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
I used to be a big Madden guy. But this
is a long time ago, Jeff.

Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
You know, I know.

Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
It's hard to do. Like I said, I play and
my wife bought me the Xbox. I didn't even buy
it so I would never play. She didn't buy it
for me.

Speaker 3 (01:32:23):
Yeah, I uh. I used to love playing Madden. But
that was man. That was way back in like college
days where you know, you would just the dudes on
your floor, you just challenge them and play Madden.

Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
It was so easy, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
Like you would just walk next door and be like
you want to get on the sticks and you're playing Madden.

Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
It's so much different life now, or I don't even
know that the closest friend within striking distance to plan
like a Madden thing, it'd be a whole thing. They've
got kids, like, so it's just different now. Maybe just
play online.

Speaker 10 (01:33:00):
We are buying you a PS five. This is ridiculous.
You have to get.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
Please do Hey, I'll happily accept. Bo.

Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
You know you pool your resources. I'll get on that thing.
Are you a Madden guy or a college football guy?

Speaker 10 (01:33:12):
Bo, I'm very much after seeing like some of the
gameplay for College Football twenty five, I'm very much on
board with what they're doing here.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
There you go. Yeah, you're gonna play with the Irish right.

Speaker 10 (01:33:24):
No, will not. It's gonna be weird. I usually played
with Oklahoma as a kid when it was available then.
But I'm gonna have to play with USC now, I guess.
So it's a mean adjustment. Yeah, not exciting.

Speaker 1 (01:33:34):
Felt very great. I went to buy the UNFL You.

Speaker 2 (01:33:36):
Had to do that, all right.

Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No. Coming up next. He's
not quite Santa Claus. He might be better. Details on
the way. It's Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
Hang with us.

Speaker 3 (01:33:49):
We're live from the tire rack dot Com studios. It
is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No.
By the way, shout out to our guy Kiris. He's
with us here technically producing. If you Will and I
told him, Jeff. I was like, you know, Jeff's a
big metal guy, any Slayer, you know, Lamb of God,
all of it, Yeah, all of it.

Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
Just keep it coming, steady stream.

Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
That's my favorite. It's why I listened to go to bednight.
That's how relaxing.

Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
That's that's how you unwind. Is ill me throwing some
old school Pantera here, you know, wind down? How about
this Jalen Brunson, the Santa Claus of the New York Knicks.
We'll say not necessarily the NBA, but Jeff he leaves
one hundred and thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Million dollars on the table.

Speaker 3 (01:34:41):
He was eligible next year for a contract worth as
much as two hundred and sixty nine million dollars. Instead,
he signs a deal with Knicks for one hundred and
fifty six million dollars. He wants to improve the roster,
maintain flexibility, all of those things. This dude is heaven
sent for any Knicks fans. He was fantastic last season

(01:35:05):
and he's taking a one hundred and thirteen million dollar haircut.

Speaker 1 (01:35:10):
Oh buddy, you know this this is really tough, right
because look he's he's making contact. That's life changing. For him, right,
it's life changing money. So whether he makes what's the
number on this deal, the current deal is, he's taking it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
So it's four years a buck one fifty six.

Speaker 1 (01:35:33):
Okay, So it's life changing money, right, we know that
generational money, like all those things are absolutely true. So
taking more money, you know, I mean, does it? Does
it change his life? No, wouldn't change his life. It
sounds weird to say that. Not you have one hundred thirty
million dollars, but it would not change his life. Okay,

(01:35:54):
But you get into to me. As an athlete, you
should be what you're worth, right, And he's worth three
hundred million dollars, that's what he's worth, and he's taking
far less of it. And this is the thing that
really gets me. He's trusting the team to invest that

(01:36:15):
money wisely. Yeah, and teams don't do that, you know.
You say to the next Okay, I've saved you one
hundred and thirteen million dollars, Go find me players for
that money that I've saved you. What if no one
wants to come and play New York? Well, if someone
else gets offered more money, what if you can't get
anybody you're trusting the team to.

Speaker 12 (01:36:37):
Spend this money, say, just keeping it for themselves and
so like that to me is the faith that teams
do not deserve to have.

Speaker 1 (01:36:48):
And if you're a player of his caliber, yes, again
you're making more money than you ever need in your
lifetime and your kid's lifetime and probably after that. But
you're also worth one hundred and thirty mon knows more
than what you got, and that's a big haircut to take. Now,
it's possible. I don't know his situation that he needs
the money now versus in a year, but there's loans

(01:37:10):
you can and his ways to get the money right
before you end up getting before you. Maybe he's much
more injured and beat up than we think, and he's
got four or five six years left and he just
wants to maximize now. Maybe expects the stock market or
a bitcoin to go so far up he invested in
a year, he makes all that money back, right.

Speaker 3 (01:37:28):
I don't know, but he wants to put it all
on Crack's future wagers.

Speaker 1 (01:37:33):
I know, right, he get banned immediately from the sportsbook.
So I just I don't see this working out often
where teams end up spending the money. Look, it's it's
sort of working in Los Angeles right now, where a
Tawny He didn't take less though, right, he just deferred
his payment.

Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
Right, so he did kind.

Speaker 1 (01:37:53):
Him a deal because it's not with interest, but still
he's deferred his payment. He's still getting the max contract
was he was signed for. So r I man, I
get that. I understand that the feeling of I want
to be a good team. I want to bring a
championship to New York. I don't understand the feeling of

(01:38:14):
having faith your team is going to use that money wisely.

Speaker 3 (01:38:16):
No, I get that. I understand your position. I look
at it like this, where it's your decision, it's your money,
You've earned it. It's similar to how I look at
prospects entering the NFL draft right like you've earned that.

Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
That's your night.

Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
If you want to spend it like Joe top fishing
with your father, have at it. If you want to
go there and bear hug Goodell, great, if you want
to be in the living room with your family, whatever,
You've earned that. And that's how I look at it
this way, where I wouldn't look down on a player
like I don't know Dak Prescott is in line for
a huge contract extension if he takes every last cent

(01:38:56):
to a tongue of I, Loo has made it very
clear he's like, I need to make market value. He
doesn't sound like a guy who's willing to take a
financial haircut at all. He's earned that if he wants
to maximize it, great. If Jalen Brunson wants to take
a one hundred and thirteen million dollar haircut, that's his decision.

Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
That's how I look at it. Now where you went.

Speaker 3 (01:39:19):
I think it's interesting too, because you're taking a haircut
with the faith that the organization is going to make
shrewd decisions and surround you with a great supporting cast
where this will pay off. You're not just saying here's
one hundred and thirteen million dollars back just out of
the goodness of my heart. You're hoping that it pays
off in the long haul. And so I get where

(01:39:41):
you'd be reluctant to believe the Knicks or the Chiefs
or the Patriots, whatever team might utilize that money the
best way possible.

Speaker 2 (01:39:51):
But I also look at this and say, you're.

Speaker 3 (01:39:54):
Gonna make way more money in the long run if
you're winning chips if you're going further in the playoffs,
and if you think this is the best path to
surrounding yourself with more talent and a better opportunity, you
might actually be raking in more cash in the long run.
So I definitely appreciate a move like this from Jalen Brunson,

(01:40:15):
but I get the skepticism from you saying, I don't
know if the Knicks are going to utilize this money
the right way.

Speaker 1 (01:40:23):
It's a lot of faith that even if they utilize
it the right way, that you win a championship.

Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Well and sure, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
And you're just again you're just sort of hoping that
it happens and you get I guess paid back eventually.
But look, people said, well, can you'll get his max
deal next time? The money's still gone. You know when
Le'Veon Bell held out. You remember Leaven Bell held out.
He missed all that money and then he and then

(01:40:50):
he said a contract the next year. I'm like, but
you don't get the fifty million dollars back he missed.
Jenny Brother has never seen this money again unless he
was a champion and that championship ends up netting him marketing,
averaging all those things right, the nil right for being
a Knicks champion. It won't equal one hundred and thirty

(01:41:11):
million dollars, but I can get a lot of it back.
But you're having faith that you're gonna win a championship,
and so I think it's just really tough. It's it's
when I saw that, I thought, man, you you're way
too generous. Yeah, he man, just way too generous. And
also you mentioned this with Kaplan. We had them on about,

(01:41:32):
you know, the PA and how they fill the postociation
and they strive to get every player of the most money.
Because now an NBA is different structure obviously, but let's
say two it took less money and said, okay, Dolphins,
give me more players to help us win. A team's
gonna turn to the next quarterback and say, well, two,
it just took forty not ready, Yeah, we're not paying you.

(01:41:55):
Why don't you help us out?

Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
It's going to change the market, sure, right.

Speaker 1 (01:41:58):
And so that's why you he keeps pushing because if
Ku gets the most money and then Dak gets the
most money next and just with this, this kind of
ball rows down the hill.

Speaker 2 (01:42:07):
Mm hm.

Speaker 1 (01:42:08):
And it's different because their structure of contracts is set
in stone basically right for full max and whatever bunts
have got, so a little different, but just it's a
lot of money turned down, man, and just the hopes
that your team spends it right.

Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Yeah, hey man, you never know how it could work
out where let's say they don't win a championship, because
that's more likely than not.

Speaker 2 (01:42:28):
It's very hard to win a championship.

Speaker 3 (01:42:30):
A lot of competition, you know, the minutes that Tibbs
demands of his guys, We get all of that, Like,
there's some hurdles in the way for the Knicks winning
a championship. But let's say the so we're talking about
one hundred and thirteen million dollars, So it's a four
year deal he signed.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
He would have been eligible for a five year deal.

Speaker 3 (01:42:47):
So let's say that, you know, whenever he signs his
next contract, who knows what that first year will be worth.

Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
It could be worth quite a bit.

Speaker 3 (01:42:56):
Let's say it's I don't know, fifty sixty million dollars.
So all of a sudden, that cuts into the one
thirteen right, and then you're thinking about maybe there are
some endorsement opportunities. If I'm the Knicks, I would be
doing everything possible to be Like, man, you helped us
out this way. We got to put you in touch
with I know, my buddy runs GMC or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
We got to get you on a.

Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
Truck commercial or something, you know what I mean, Like,
you gotta do something beyond roster to be able to
scratch his back back?

Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
Does that make sense? Because he did that for the Knicks.
They got to do that for him, Brian.

Speaker 1 (01:43:34):
The faith that he's putting in the organization to do
the right thing, uh huh is uh it's a Knicks too.
I mean, I correctly, I'm wrong here. I don't think
known for like doing the right thing.

Speaker 3 (01:43:48):
Yeah right, I feel sure. But they're in a much
better spot right now.

Speaker 1 (01:43:53):
More talent, they certainly are. They certainly are. But man,
I I I just I don't trust TV.

Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
But hey, let me say this real fast too, Jeff,
because we look at and he mentioned this, one of
the reasons he took the pay cut is he wanted
to follow Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes. He wanted to follow
that blueprint to help the team win. I know that's
where you're going. But and listen, this is basketball compared
to football. The roster obviously much shorter and much smaller

(01:44:23):
in the NBA, So there are differences. But I think
we look at the Patriots and the Chiefs and say, well,
what did they do with that extra money that they
had laying around. They might not have gotten a blockbuster
like huge name that's making big, big money, but that
money still was utilized, you know what I mean. Like
if Tom Brady or Mahomes was commanding top dollar, those

(01:44:48):
teams would have had to cut corners with the roster,
you know what I mean. So it did pay some dividends.

Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
Yes, The Brady pushback is that they never used that
money in a whe receiver for him, Like that's what
he needed the whole time, and they's never gave it.
He never used it for that. And again, like he
might have taken five million dollars less on a you know,
twenty million dollars you know, a year contract, he didn't

(01:45:16):
take as much money less. And Patrick Mahomes, it's not
that cheap. I mean, he signed his deal and everyone
else signed their deal, so a deal seems cheap relative
when he signed it, it was four million dollars, like
it was a cheap deal. And I mean, look, but
here's the thing. Though, is that with both those players.
And I don't know what Brunson makes endorsements, but Brady

(01:45:38):
and Mahomes making millions of endorsements, they're not ye Jailly,
Burt's is not those two players. I could so I
could say to Mahomes, hey, man, can you know can
you help us out what you know? Can you cut
ten million dollars off your off your deal for us?
We'll get your guard and a backup, your linebacker. But
then it is that cool. I have a state farm
check sitting right here right subway out, sure, and so

(01:46:02):
that eases that. With brun said, I imagine there's some
advertising he does and some you know, some some commercials
and whatnot, but you know, not at the same level
that we're seeing homes. And so it's just a it's
a big, big risk for Brunson to do this, and
I just see. I feel like players get burned all
the time doing things like this, and I don't like
to see that interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
I like to take different than mine, But I appreciate
where you're coming from. All Right, Martin Weiss is with
us this evening slash afternoon depending on where you're listening
in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:46:34):
All Right, Martin. What's going on, man, I'm knee deep
into this MLB draft?

Speaker 7 (01:46:38):
You so am? I? How about this?

Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
You know?

Speaker 8 (01:46:40):
The first you know is Travis Bonanza, kid out of
Oregon State, Bozana. I think his name is pronounced. I
think I just butchered it the first time. Hand up
my bed. He's the first Australian drafted in the first
round in Major League Baseball history.

Speaker 7 (01:46:53):
How about that, Brian though?

Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
Wow? First ever? Huh?

Speaker 7 (01:46:56):
First ever in the first round.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
So we're international here.

Speaker 8 (01:47:00):
I'm saying it's an international takeover right right at time
for the Olympics. Second baseman out of Oregon State. He
is the Beavers career leader in hits, runs, walks, home runs,
and stolen bases.

Speaker 7 (01:47:12):
So a monster at the.

Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
Play, playing seven years.

Speaker 8 (01:47:19):
Number two is Chase Burns, a rity pitcher from wake Forest.
He goes to Cincinnati. The third pick was Charlie Conton,
Georgia third baseman. Fourth was the Oakland A selecting wake
Forest first baseman Nick Kurtz. And Hagen Smith, a right
handed pitcher from Arkansas, went fifth to.

Speaker 7 (01:47:35):
The White Sox.

Speaker 8 (01:47:35):
Sorry, left handed pitcher Hagen Smith went fifth to the
White Sox. Earlier today, at Wimbledon, Carlos Alkaraz bet Novak
Djokovic and the men's single final of straight sets, second
year in a row.

Speaker 7 (01:47:46):
Those two mets second year in a row. Alkaraz won.

Speaker 8 (01:47:48):
Spain beat England two to one in the euro twenty
twenty fourth final. Spain the first team to win four
European Championships. Copo America about to get started the final
there Argentina and Columbia.

Speaker 7 (01:47:59):
That game is on Fox.

Speaker 8 (01:48:01):
In the WNBA, the Fever beat the Links eighty one
to seventy four. Caitlin Clark had seventeen points, ten of
them in the fourth quarter. Ace has beat the Mystic
eighty nine to seventy seven. Elsewhere in Major League Baseball,
the Tigers walked off the Dodgers second day in a
row today, score four to three. Orioles came back to
beat the Yankees, now six ' five Baltimore first place

(01:48:22):
in the Al East heading into the All Star Break,
as crushed the Phillies eighteen to three. Had three guys
with home runs, two guys with one guy with two,
another guy with three, Lawrence Butler had three, Brent Rooker
had two. Ray's blank of the Guardians two to nothing ed.
Red Sox beat the Royals five to four, and the
Marlins top the.

Speaker 7 (01:48:41):
Reds three to two. Brian and Jeff back to you guys, good.

Speaker 3 (01:48:45):
Stuff, Martin always Man, Fox Sports Radio. It's Jeff Schwartz,
Brian know with you. I saw this randomly. We're talking
about the MLB draft. Makes me think of a non
MLB draft guy at least this year. Dustin May with
the Dodger so he's a righty, right starting pitcher. He
was rehabbing Tommy John surgery and was expected to be

(01:49:08):
back maybe the second half of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
Yeah, scratch that.

Speaker 3 (01:49:12):
He had to have surgery this week for a torn esophagus,
so he's out for the rest of the season. Jeff,
I don't know what's going on with the Dodgers pitching staff,
but there's been a lot of dudes that have been
banged up and they're hoping to get Dustin made back. Nope,
esophagus went sideways. Son thing tear their I really don't know.

(01:49:34):
I don't know the backstory with I'd like to, I'd
like to know what the story was. But it was
torn and he had to undergo surgery.

Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Okay, that seems terrible. Look I'm not a Dodger fan.
I wish him well, but you know, the Dodgers being
bad as much money as they spend as very funny
for me. So I hope that they well. They keep
having this issue of lack of pitching and the post.
It's been a consistent problem for them. Bullpen the last
this last week has been terrible. That's blown two leads

(01:50:07):
to the Tigers late the last couple of days as well,
like did you have five runs yesterday? Right? And the
ninth thing I think to the Tigers.

Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
They gave them I think seven because they were up
by five, okay seven?

Speaker 1 (01:50:17):
Then yeah, this is yeah? Is I am rooting more
for them to stink that I am for the Giants
to be good, because the Giants are just miserable to watch.
So I'd rather just the Dodgers just flame out in
the wildcard round or whatever they call it now divisional round,
then the Giants play. Well.

Speaker 3 (01:50:34):
Yeah, I'm imagining all of this is displeasing to our
trusted producer Bo Benson, who's a big Dodgers fan. But
I think been the walking wounded with all these pitching
injuries where Glass now just got hurt. Yeah, I'm a
Moto's banged up.

Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
Bueler, he's I saw Kirshaw in a minor league.

Speaker 10 (01:50:52):
Yeah, he had a rehab started Oklahoma City. He topped
out at a blazing eighty seven and a half miles
an hour. So yeah, that's gonna be great. I think
the Dodgers have more money on the injury list right
now than a lot of teams have total payrolls.

Speaker 1 (01:51:05):
To see it.

Speaker 10 (01:51:06):
Yeah, I know it's it's unfortunate. Yeah, I think Last Now, No,
I think I think Last Now is a fake ill
just to buy him some rest here. But yamamod is
a little concerning. He just got put on the sixty day.
I also, we'll see what happens there.

Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
Our guy Jack kagleone just went to the Royals.

Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
Yeah, so what twenty thirty two, we'll see him a
coffin stadium lighting it up.

Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
Why are you such a hater with the draft?

Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
Man, I'm gonna call my shot and say before twenty
twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
Oh boo? How like a full time starter just shows
up in September.

Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
When he actually might be suitor than that? You know this, dude,
how many games in a Roadie he hit a home run?
Seven or eight that's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
No, look, it's funny because your baseball team, I think
a lot of times has to be built through the
draft to win championships, and so, uh, these are important
draft picks for these teams. But again' it's just it's
so hard because when you see an NBA player get drafted,
right the summer leagues immediately, and I know you had
to watch them play immediately, right, most guys are playing
summer league even. I mean, Jack's gonna go to at best,

(01:52:26):
at best Low A at some point this year, right,
I mean he's gonna go to He'll go He'll go
to Arizona or Florida. Now do rookie ball, and if
he's good enough, he'll go to short A like this year.
Eugene had a short A team when I was in college,
Eugene Emeralds. I mean, those dudes are playing with wood
bats for the first time in the league. I mean,

(01:52:46):
you get two hits a nights. Like, It's not like
someone's going to watch that often. It's just it's just
hard to keep track of all these things.

Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
No, you're right, if you compare it to summer league,
it was fun watching reed Shephard the other night with
the Houston Rockets. Right, he's the third overall pick ribble
and he's hit. He's hitting like you know, logo threes.
What is the move on Dalton connect? Is that what
you're calling the double dribble?

Speaker 1 (01:53:09):
There held the ball with two hands in the middle
of the move. That is that is I'm not I'm
not an NBA referee, but I think that's called double dribble.

Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
H could be, could be we let some stuff slide
in the summer league, okay, Jeff, But but the point.

Speaker 1 (01:53:23):
Is those are those It's a it's a holly Burn
like double step back. You're like, that's not that should
be allowed. That's not and then he and he like
did a carry and a double dribble.

Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
It's funny seeing the Olympic rules because sometimes these NBA guys,
especially Team USA, they're like, oh, shoot, that's traveling. You're
calling travel Okay, I gotta I gotta adjust to that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
But but it is.

Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
The point is with Reed Shepherd or these top picks,
you see him in the summer league and it's like
you're gonna see him this year like playing in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:53:54):
So I get it.

Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
It's a long waiting process a lot of times to
see these top MLB picks, But hey man, it's just
the nature of the draft.

Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
It's so much different.

Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
It certainly is are boy from Jackson Prepp It's going
to be up soon in Mississippi, looks like. So there's
just you know, this is what the draft is for baseball.
I'm had for the players of course, right getting this
opportunity is so cool. Yeah, you know it's interesting too,
how how outside of football that when you're draft in

(01:54:27):
other sports you play immediately. Like football, obviously you have
OTA's it's kind of like, but these players go to
summer league WNBA starts almost immediately. Baseball you're like tomorrow
you're going to Arizona or you're going to Florida and
you're beginning rookie ball or instructional league. Like you're going
right away to play your support after your season's done.

(01:54:47):
There's no break.

Speaker 3 (01:54:49):
Yeah, and that's the thing, man, I get where it's
such a long burn to see some of these guys.
But you think about some of the success that teams
have had through the draft, the astros come to mind.
I'm sorry to bookend this with things our producer will
hate hearing being a Dodger fan, right, But like Alex
Bregman and Carlos Correa and George Springer, all these dudes

(01:55:13):
that they drafted, they were freaking horrible for a long time.
And yeah, the main reason they rebuilt that nucleus and
one a couple of rings was through the draft, you know,
and banging on trash cans. But the draft very important,
even though the payoff might not be for years.

Speaker 1 (01:55:31):
We're seeing it with Ools right now, right with the
Oriole same thing.

Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
Great example.

Speaker 1 (01:55:35):
Have you know with Rutchmen and like in their crew
that they're look and my giants won three World Series
with most of the guys they drafted, right, had you
added a hundred pence in there, But for the most
part it was Tim Wtico, Matt Cain, Sergia, Romo Crawford,
Posey Belt, Pablo Sandoval. I mean it was that was

(01:55:57):
the nucleus of that team, even the unsung heroes and
Ischikao and Blanco and the guys that played the Joe
Panic one World Series at second base. Yeah, those guys
were all home grown. And you can have obviously again,
yet pens Brays, you don't end up having some good
playoff appearances for us, but you need to build through

(01:56:18):
the base of your team near, which is the same
case I think for all sports.

Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
Yeah, all right, he's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No. Coming
up next, let's ask a duck about a new duck. Right,
We're live from the Tireck dot Com studios. Hang with
us right here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox
Sports Radio. He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No. Okay, So
the Heisman odds, I'm just looking at these on BETMGM. Here,

(01:56:43):
Jeff and I see Carson Beck, Georgia quarterback and Dylan Gabriel.
Now with your ducks, same odds plus seven fifty. So
if you're not huge into gambling, it's like seven and
a half to one, right, so you can win about
seven times your money, whatever your beat is. What do
you think about Dylan Gabriel in like his thirteenth college

(01:57:07):
football season now at Oregon, what do you think about
him being neck and neck with Carson Beck for Heisman
odds here?

Speaker 1 (01:57:13):
Yeah, well, he's gonna play well in the Oregon offense, right.
He played well last year Oklahoma. We saw what the
organ offense did for bow Knicks last season, being in
on the Heisman Race, he getting to New York, he
finished and finishing third in the Heisman race. Dude, it's

(01:57:34):
probably if we're just talking about odds to win, it
makes sense where he's at. I just don't know if
he wins that award, if he wins at a war ogon,
probably wins a championship. You're like, they they they're they're
good enough. It's a team to do that. So yeah, look,
I would love for that to happen. And I get
why he's he's that high. It just feels just a

(01:57:55):
very tall task to actually make that happen.

Speaker 3 (01:57:59):
Yeah, it's it's gonna be really interesting years far as
the Heisman Race goes.

Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
In college football. Yeah, I'm looking down the list.

Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
There's been a couple of years where the guy that
wins the Heisman is not one of the favorites entering
the year, you know what I mean, Like, there have
been a couple of long shots.

Speaker 1 (01:58:19):
Was anyone's radar?

Speaker 3 (01:58:20):
Joe Burrow was a long shot. Jayden Daniels, Right, it
was a pretty long shot.

Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
Was he not. I don't remember.

Speaker 1 (01:58:26):
If he don't, I don't think he was. Yeah, I
don't think he was before the season.

Speaker 3 (01:58:31):
Yeah, one of the top guys. So when you start
looking down the list and potential value, you know, do
you think about a guy like Riley Leonard? Now with
the Irish here, Jeff, twenty to one, there anybody else
favorable schedule?

Speaker 1 (01:58:48):
Their schedule is very very easy. It would guys, I'm
telling you right now, if you looked up and saw
Notre Dame twelve and zero, don't be surprised. Yeah, I
love it. One probably feels more likely, right just with
you factor and one weird loss most college teams have
every year. Eleven to one is very doable for Nor Dame.

Speaker 3 (01:59:06):
Which do you like better? Notre Dame over ten and
a half wins or Texas under ten and.

Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
A half wins Texas unders schedule?

Speaker 1 (01:59:15):
Yeah? Yeah, okay o the ten and a half wins
is I did that with Georgia one year and they hit.
I mean, you had the almost like a perfect season.
That's hard to wager on.

Speaker 3 (01:59:27):
By the way, something funny before we get out of here, Jeff,
I saw this with San Jose.

Speaker 2 (01:59:31):
State's college football teams.

Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Yes, dealing with an issue. It's a geese problem here.
Geese droppings everywhere on their practice fields. And so what
did they do. They bought four fake plastic coyotes and
they placed them around the fields at night. They put
them in various spots to confuse the geese. Huh, they
fall for it every time, Jeff. But they had to

(01:59:55):
fix the field here with these geese. Big issues.

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
They need to do the get the falcony or the
hawk on the field.

Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
Absolutely, man, we got a geese problem over here in Champagne, Illinois,
you know. But we're gone in a month, so what
does it matter. Always good hanging with you, Jeff. Argentina
or Colombia. What am I putting all my money Columbia?

Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
Done, done deal, Let's go.
