Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh what is going on? Happy Saturday to you.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
I'll tell you what we will get to the how
should I say this? The the page two story of
to a tongue of I loo At getting paid Jordan
Love getting paid on page one would be metal at
the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Did you see the opening ceremony where Go Jira, a
French metal band is playing metal live in front of
it just a spool of this. This is unbelievable here
geting Olympics.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Are you kidd Just realize what this means?

Speaker 4 (00:46):
The metal?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
This is unbelievable here.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Maybe maybe they were looking for a metal band but
they miss Oh they were looking for M E.

Speaker 5 (00:56):
D A L.

Speaker 6 (00:58):
They just.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
They missed by one letter and they got Gojira.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, we're off for it. Man spell check Olympics. Thank
you for misspelling.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yes, that was amazing, our guy man off the top rope.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
This is unprecedented.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Also, just two minutes into the show, our executive producer
over here, our technical producer, I should say, Chris Purfect,
come on join the party.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
The water is great here.

Speaker 7 (01:27):
No fantastic Gojira performance.

Speaker 8 (01:29):
That was actually I think like a French Revolution tune
they covered with like beheaded Marie Antoinette's in the Wild
and they had like these red smoke flares that looked
like blood from an execution. It was extremely metal, and
that's why I'm proud to announce All Day today here
on Fox Sports Radio and Olympic soundtrack because we got everything.
We got metal, we had trance, we had rap, we

(01:52):
had Celine Dion with like incredibly moving performance after what
she's going through Lady Gaga earlier, like they brought the
house on music.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, that was I was just watching it and I'm like,
am I hearing this right?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
And I'm like, is this could it be? Is it metal?

Speaker 8 (02:12):
Metal on the main stage on mainstream first time metal
has ever been at the Olympics.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
That's awesome.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
That was so creet.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
I dig it.

Speaker 9 (02:20):
You know, hey, we're in We're in a diverse society
now all all music is welcome.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Let me just echo what you guys.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
I'm sure will say Lamb of God for Super Bowl halftime, right, yeah,
I would.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
With Destiny's Child actually there.

Speaker 7 (02:36):
To that argument was always Metallica. But we can go
Lamb of God.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
That's fine.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I'll I mean, what are they doing a slayer, I'll
settle for Metallica at the Bullet's fine.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Okay, So we get to the main.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Chorus over here, of course, which is quarterbacks getting paid
to a tongue of I LOOA got a huge deal
four years, two hundred and twelve million dollars, and then
on the same day, of course, he got upstaged. The
Packers gave Jordan Love two hundred and twenty million dollars guaranteed.
So that ties Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence for the

(03:11):
most average money paid per year, which is fifty five
million dollars for Jordan Love. Here's the simple question which
deal is riskier? Is it Toa's deal with the Dolphins
or is it Jordan Love's deal for the Packers. We'll
start with you Rich, what do you think which deal
is riskier?

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Well, just based on injury history, I would say tua tua.
I think like when you when you really think about
what he does for the Miami Dolphins offense versus what
Jordan Love does for the Packers offense, think to yourself,
how many people could do what Jordan Love does in

(03:50):
the NFL versus how many people could do what Tua does.
And I think there's a lot more players and I'm
not saying many more, but there's more players that could
do with Tua does versus Jordan Love. Jordan Love has
certain gifts that.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
You're not going to be able to replicate.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
With his size and his athleticism and that unbelievable arm strength.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
That guy's got a howitzer for an arm.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
You're really going to be able to do and portray
this offense in certain ways that you won't be able
to with Tua. Now, it doesn't mean that two is
a limited quarterback. I think he's a very talented quarterback.
It doesn't mean that the Dolphins made a poor choice
by signing Tua, because I think it was their only choice.

(04:32):
I really do. I think at a certain point, you
either have to say to yourself, look, we have a
franchise quarterback, and there's about ten or twelve teams that
can say that each year. So do we want to
be one of these top third teams that are secured
and solidified at least for the foreseeable future, or do

(04:54):
you want to be one of these teams who are searching.
You know, look at the Raiders. How comfortable is their
situation right now. Look at the Seattle Seahawks. How comfortable
is their situation right now? Look at the Carolina Panthers,
how comfortable is their situation? You look at the Miami Dolphins.
You pay that money, and yeah, even though it's riskier
than Jordan Love, it's the only thing in my opinion, they.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
Should have or could have done at this point.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, I think both of them are pretty risky if
you ask me that.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
I mean.

Speaker 9 (05:25):
The thing that stood out to me yesterday. And I
know that there's you know, restructures and all types of
things that you can do to make the salary cat
massage the cat massage the number. But the fact that
Patrick Mahomes is not even on the top ten of
the list of the top ten paid quarterbacks this year
is crazy, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
And the list just keeps growing and growing and growing.

Speaker 9 (05:45):
Now it's Love and to you know, on that list
and Mahomes is just sitting there is the old you know,
pinching pennies is the eleventh highest paid quarterback in the
game this year, you know, took a little bit less
restructured the deal so the Chiefs could.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Go sign more.

Speaker 9 (06:00):
That's the least risky of them all right, Like all
of these quarterback contracts now are risky.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
That's just the way that the position is structured.

Speaker 9 (06:09):
There's no way around it until they figure out a
special salary cap just for the quarterbacks, or unless they
continue to raise it to the point where it's not
as punitive, but it's putitive to sign your quarterback right now.
Like that's just it's it's almost like a penalty. It's
it's it's a positive because you get the quarterback, but
it puts you at a disadvantage. Both of these contracts

(06:31):
are gonna put their teams at a disadvantage at some
point in the near future. I don't know when, but
at some point the Dolphins and the Packers are going to
have to pass on someone because they can't sign them.
And yeah, and that's that's that's tough. So I think
both guys are in a you know, win now mode.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, we've talked about that many times where.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Look, it's uh, the money that you're paying a quarterback.
If you're not getting production that is equal to that
dollar amount or greater than that dollar amount, you could
be in a.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
World of hurt. And that's the thing where I thought, Jared,
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
They're both very risky deals, I believe, And to break
the tie, which deal is riskier?

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I actually believe.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
It's Jordan Love right here, right now, heading into the
twenty four season, because yes, I know the injury history
with Tua Tongueavai looa, but he was upright all last season.
And the thing with Jordan Love, I have half a
season of really really good play.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
But it's half a season.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I've got eight regular season games, nine including the playoff
win against the Cowboys, of really good play, and we
just made him the highest paid quarterback in NFL history, Right, Like,
you start looking closer at the second half of the
season with the wins. You look at some of the
defenses where the Panthers playing all world defense, where.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
The Chargers elite, like no, no, right, you.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Start looking at this and it's like, Okay, I know
he threw thirty two touchdown passes, but there was a
guy named Justin Herbert who threw thirty one touchdown passes
his rookie season. And it's not like Herbert has gone
completely downhill. But I hear more negative comments about Herbert,
and you've got to win a playoff game than I

(08:18):
hear positive ones. So I just think with Jordan Love
in particular, I just wanted more information. This is like
getting married after a couple of good dates, you know
what I mean, Like it could work out fine, but
I just need more information to make that type of commitment.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I think the information that the Packers have is so
much different than the information we have because they've gotten
to kick his tires for years before he was even
unveiled to us. And that's a big part of the
development of a young players. You know, what he's able
to regurgitate to you in terms of his understanding of

(08:57):
the playbook or his understanding of defenses at this level,
his understanding of you know, blitz pickups and protection audibles
and how do you get yourself out of trouble if
they do this, if you know they see all that
at practice. Now, don't get me wrong, you got to
make that translate to the game field, and I think
overwhelmingly he did, and he did it enough that they

(09:19):
were comfortable with the contract of this size. And also
you got to remember where we are in time and space.
You know, there's a lot of teams that are QB
needy right now.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
The Packers aren't one of those teams.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
And if you look around the conference.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
You know, you look at the AFC, it's just loaded
for bear.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
You were just talking about Justin Herbert, Well, he he's
in direct competition with you know, Lamar Jackson and Patrick
Mahomes and Josh Allen and and you know, you think
about Tua, you think about I don't know if Deshaun
Watson's ever going to creep out of the cellar of
the NFL in terms of quarterback play again, but if
he returns to what he looked like or anything near

(10:00):
what he looked like with the Texans, he plays in
the AFC at a missing name Sjoe Burrow in the
NFC side. You know, look, Jared Goff is a very
nice quarterback. He's completely you know, reinvented himself with the
Detroit Lions. And Matthew Stafford's obviously insanely talented. You know,
Brock Purdy, he's he's burst onto the scene. But I mean,

(10:24):
besides Jordan Love, who else are you really contending within
that conference? I mean, Baker Mayfield. I mean, once you
get outside the top four, it starts getting a little
difficult to start naming quarterbacks. You're really afraid of in
that conference, and so signing Jordan Love again from a
risk assessment standpoint, you know, in the NFC, if that's

(10:48):
who you're competing with in the postseason. I think the
Green Bay Packers did pretty well for themselves.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah they did.

Speaker 9 (10:54):
I mean this is rent, Like, like we've read, this
is millennial rent. All the millennials out there that are
in their thirty like me, and they're struggling with rent
right now because they don't have any savings because they
have student loans.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
This is what it is.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Like.

Speaker 9 (11:06):
It's a punitive payment every month that you have to
make and it's way more expensive than it needs to be,
especially if you live in New York like I did.
Like it just you just gotta make it and I
guess the other option, right, Like I always say this
when I'm watching a game and I'm wondering if I
want the team that I bet against to go forward

(11:29):
on fourth down. If I get mad when they go
for it, that means they should go for it, Like
oh no, they're going for it.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
Oh no.

Speaker 9 (11:35):
Like if they're if I'm like, oh wow, they're going
for it, like that means I want them to go
for it.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
What would you rather have? Picture in your brain? Would
you rather.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
Have the to a situation where you have to pay
this guy all this money but you get to a.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Or would you rather be the Raiders right now?

Speaker 6 (11:54):
Right like?

Speaker 9 (11:55):
Would you rather be the Broncos right now? Where you
don't have to pay anyone? But what are your prospects
at quarterback?

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Like?

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Which bad situation would.

Speaker 9 (12:06):
You rather be a part of? Would you rather pay
the guy that's good? Or would you rather not pay
the guy that stinks? Because both of them are both
of them have downsides, right, Both of them are positives.
Both of them are negatives.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
The positives on the having the guy who stinks.

Speaker 9 (12:20):
You don't have to pay it much, but he stinks
and you have no chance to win a Super Bowl?
Would you rather have that? Or option B door number two?
You will be paying this.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Guy until you are old and gray, but you have
a chance to win a super Bowl this year.

Speaker 9 (12:35):
It's a fleeting chance, but you at least have a flicker, right,
the candle is flickering, you.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Have a chance.

Speaker 9 (12:42):
That's the mental gymnastics as a fan you have to
play when you're dealing with this stuff, because that's really
our only perspective.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
We're not on the inside.

Speaker 9 (12:51):
We are all fans in a sense of this, and
we're watching this from the outside. We're not involved with
the negotiations, we're not involved in the process. We're just
watching it play out and trying to analyze it from
our end and from the fans, and you're just trying
to enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Would you rather be the Raiders this year with Gardner
Minshew or would you rather have Tua and pay him
all that money? Take your choice? Well, I hear you,
but I'll say.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
I don't want to spend one hundred thousand dollars on
a Nissan Ultima.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
You know I'm saying.

Speaker 9 (13:21):
I Like, That's the thing is, I've done that before
with Rey She the first department I lived in New York.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, wasn't getting much of my money then.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
And that's the thing is, you have to have a
quarterback that it's producing in the ballpark that is comparable
to the money you're paying him.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Are you going to be screwed that way too?

Speaker 3 (13:38):
And we'll see if Tua can live up to the deal,
if Jordan Love can live up to that deal. But
imagine you're home rich, You're a great example, because you're
a married guy with kids. You know, Jared and I
would just provide for ourselves and we go crazy and
have a.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Good time on the jack.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
But imagine if you've got a budget and you make
X amount of money and you got to make it
stretch and cover all these different aspects, like a salary
cap in the NFL. You've you spent one hundred thousand
dollars on your Nissan Altima, and guess what, you gotta
skimp all these other places. We got clothes to buy,
we got mouths to feed. You know, we can't get

(14:16):
the premium stuff here at the grocery store. We're skimping
because we got the one hundred thousand dollars Ultima in
the garage.

Speaker 6 (14:23):
You know.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Like that's the way it works with the salary cap.
So I hear you, Jared. I'd rather be the Dolphins
than the Raiders right now. But talk to me in
a couple of years. If to his health goes south,
if his production goes south, right, talk to me in
a couple of years. If these defensive coordinators figure out,
oh there's some holes in Jordan Love's game. He doesn't

(14:44):
like this coverage. Wow, he struggles with this look right,
It really changes things if the production doesn't match the payment.
But that's where we are. We'll circle back on all
this quarterback love. We're not going anywhere, you know. We
got go Jared a celebrate right this morning. Here we've
got quarterbacks to talk about. We got Rich Orenberger with
US Penn State All American Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
So Wow, Hard knocks off season with the New York Giants.
It's official.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
The Giants tried to replace Daniel Jones their quarterback here
and look, Daniel Jones is not a dumb guy, you know.
I'm sure even though his competitiveness would be like, oh,
what's up with that? I'm sure the logical side could
understand that the Giants are fishing for a new quarterback.

(17:48):
But if he caught that episode, pretty awkward to hear
the GM of the Giants, Joe Shane on the phone
with Elliott Wolf, who was calling the shots over there
in patriot Land and Joe Shane is just.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Wheeling and dealing.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
This is how it sounded on Draft night, with about
four and a half hours until the first round of
the NFL Draft. This is Giants GM Joe Shane trying
to move up to number three overall.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Okay, so like a one this year or not that.

Speaker 9 (18:21):
Obviously it'd be six this year, a one next year,
and then something more this year is not gonna do it.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
It's gonna be multiple as in a twenty five.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
And Elliott Wolf was like, we're in this situation where
we're probably just gonna sit and pick a quarterback. And
that's the first layer of this is it's one thing
for your partner to cheat on you. Right You could
look at this, even though it's a business situation, like, man,
the Giants are sneaking around, they're trying to move up

(18:49):
and draft a quarterback. You could look at this as
like cheating football style, if you will, lease from Daniel
Jones perspective, it's quite another thing if there's footed of
the cheating for you to witness, right, Like, that is
way different. And for Daniel Jones to hear this conversation, man,
that's got to be really awkward.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
It's a tough pill to swallow, There's no question about it,
especially when you think about the position and how mental
it is and how much confidence plays a role. You
really need to have ultimately blinders on. When you're a
professional athlete, you got to block out all the noise
from you know, everything, whether it be article writers talking

(19:33):
about the whole team, the chances for success, individual assessments
of your talent, or even your family members. You know,
sometimes it could be positive things that you have to
block out. Oh, they don't know what they're doing. You know,
they don't know what they're talking about. They're the ones
who are ruining you. And it's like, yeah, you know,

(19:53):
that's not helping because even though you're trying to help,
what you're saying essentially is I stink and there's an
excuse to be made for me. And and you know, look,
that's it's not their fault. You know, your your family
is just trying to be supportive. Your friends are just
trying to be supportive, but but they just don't know

(20:14):
how to be because they never lived that life, they've
never played the position. They don't understand how it feels
to be the guy in the arena. You know, Look,
a quarterback's life is not an easy life. However, they're
compensated greatly for having to be the guy that everybody
turns to in the organization to save the day.

Speaker 6 (20:36):
Daniel Jones, for being.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
A pretty lackluster quarterback, is making forty million dollars a year.
I mean like so, so at the end of the day,
DJ's winning. It's just a matter of if he can
do that on the field with the Giants.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Now to your.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Point about what happened with his general manager, and you know,
this unfortunate reveal in terms of maybe the questions he's
gonna have to answer about this, the New York media
pulls no punches.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
You know, for sure that.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Somebody is gonna ask if he saw that that episode
of Hard Knocks and what his reaction was to the
fact that the Giants were fishing around to trade up
so that they could replace him. I'm sure, I'm sure
that he's gonna have some feelings about that, and he'll
probably say the right thing. You know, it'll probably be something,

(21:28):
you know, along the company line of hey, look, you know,
this is a business and I completely understand, and you know,
our general managers just trying to put the team in
the best position to win, and it's my job to
go out there and make sure that I'm a part
of that solution.

Speaker 6 (21:43):
Blah blah blah.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
But deep down inside, like I mentioned earlier, this is
a confidence driven position. And there's no questioning that Daniel Jones,
if he saw that, if he heard that, if somebody
sent him that clip, his confidence took a little bit
of a Bloh, there's no doubt.

Speaker 9 (22:01):
Yeah, I think I agree with you, first of all.
Second of all, I think they talk to him about
it too. Like my guess is, and I've watched every
second of this Hard Knocks, I don't think it's a
very It's a different Hard Knocks, right. It doesn't have
the drama and the intrigue of training camp and who's

(22:22):
getting cut. It's almost like sometimes they play out like
a murder mystery, like who's done it?

Speaker 2 (22:27):
You know, who's walking into the room getting cut. Now
it's a.

Speaker 9 (22:30):
Little bit more Hunt for Red October kind of vibes,
where it's, you know, Shane in his war room kind
of cooking things up. I like it a lot. I
honestly like seeing the behind the scene. I love seeing
the quarterback meetings at the Combine. You know, when they
brought in the quarterbacks when they were meeting with them
at the Combine, when they were having them discuss plays.

(22:52):
I thought that was incredibly valuable, useful information for me
to kind of see how these guys operate. But I'm
assuming they sat down Daniel Jones and told him all this,
because they should. He's gonna see it anyways, you might
as well hear it from the source. And it looks
like Joe Shane's a pretty straight shooter. I mean, I
get really good vibes from the way he does business

(23:13):
based on what I've seen from Hard Knocks, like he feels.
It feels like they're a very direct communication organization.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
And they probably sat down Dan Jones said hey, you're
gonna see this.

Speaker 9 (23:23):
This is what was said, because they all know the
footage that was released, and so I hope they got
ahead of it. Because right, Brian, to your point about
cheating and seeing the video, would you rather watch the
video alone on your couch or would you rather watch
the video with your partner as they're telling you what's happening?

Speaker 4 (23:43):
Right?

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yeah, yeah, like pre tell you exactly right, and even
just flirting would be tough to take. Let's say you're
in a relationship and your partner says, you know, hey, yeah,
I was at the I was at the club. It
was this girl a couple extra shots, kind.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Of spitting game. I know it was wrong.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
I know it was wrong, you know, And then you
got to sit there and watch it, and who you know,
maybe Daniel Jones just heisman posed that whole thing because
that would be tough to see. And the other part
of this real fast is that the Patriots said no, like,
think about this, right. There's been a lot of leading
up to the draft, especially there was a lot of

(24:24):
anti Drake May talk where it's like, oh, this guy
doesn't read defenses very well, and uh, the accuracy and
the consistency. And at the end of the day, the
Patriots had the groundwork of a legitimate offer if they
were not sold on Drake May, and they had to
believe that was most likely the guy who was gonna

(24:45):
be there at number three overall. And Elliott Wolf said, yeah,
we're probably just gonna sit there and take a QB.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
Right.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
So it was a little bit like Drake May was
the Will Levice. He got the Will levis human Pinata
treatment from the year prior, right where all these people just, oh,
we'll leve it sucks, and then the chorus joined in like, yeah,
we'll leve it sucks. That was a lot like how
it was with Drake May. But the Patriots who could
have moved down a couple of spots, they could have

(25:13):
been the ones to get Malik Neighbors or whoever they
felt would have been a good pick at sixth. Overall,
they would have had a number one, you know, a
first round pick the next year. And then something like
that's a legitimate offer if you aren't convinced Drake May
can be your guy. And they sat there and said,
no deal, We'll take Drake May. That's pretty telling how
they felt about May.

Speaker 6 (25:33):
Yeah, there's no doubt.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
And also some of the things in the scouting report,
there are teams or coaches who have belief in themselves
above the belief they have in the college programs that
these players are coming from. And so what I'm trying
to say is, not only are the players scouted and
evaluated in the draft process, but so are their coaches,

(25:55):
So is the culture that they came from. You know,
you have a guy who's a little bit of a
knucklehead at a certain university, you know, and you're maybe
there are certain teams that have character concerns and that's
a stay off pick for them. And then there's other
teams that will take the risk, roll the dice because
they know they have the culture they'll be able to
handle that player, or they believe that maybe the culture

(26:19):
they're coming from may have instigated some of that issue,
and so they know that, well, what we do and
how we do it is so different, we're not gonna
have character concerns once he gets here. You know. Same
is with you know, actually things that happen on the field.
You know, you have a player who's coming from a
system where you know, he wasn't tasked with certain certain things.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
You know, he wasn't asked to read defenses.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
Maybe he was just asked to, uh count the box
and then you know, throw open a receiver every once
in a while, like you're you're, you're, you're, you're going
from sometimes very rudimentary often is into more complex offenses.
And it's your job as a coach to scout whether
or not that player has the potential to understand what

(27:09):
you're doing. At the next level. And so whether it's
the Patriots or it's any team. I'm not making an
example of the Patriots. Any team could have this feeling
of like, all right, well, listen, regardless of what we
saw on film, regardless of what we think of him
from a mental aspect, we got him on the whiteboard
in our you know, organization's facilities, and he was incredibly

(27:31):
dazzled us because we asked him to do more than
his college football teams asking him to do, and he
was able to handle it. You know. So there's all
these little draft profiles, these little snippets that come out
later on. You know, you may hear about how you know, oh,
you know, this is what this scout said about Tom
Brady twenty years later. This is what this scout said

(27:52):
about this quarterback twenty years later after they have a
successful career, and a lot of it's negative, but sometimes
it's positive. Sometimes those those things are you know, hey, geez,
this guy's actually better, a better thinker than a lot
of people think he is. I think there's going to
be a lot of questions about Drake May. There's obviously
going to be more questions about Daniel Jones. If I

(28:16):
were the Patriots, I probably would have said no too,
because if we're just looking at needs in an organization,
if we're just looking at, hey, how can we best
cure what ails us? The Patriots had to take the roll,
had to roll the dice on a quarterback, even if
it was one that they didn't prefer. You know, if
they had their druthers, maybe they do go after Jaden

(28:36):
Daniels if they're you know, if they have the second
overall pick, or if they had the first overall pick,
maybe the Patriots do draft Caleb Williams. But they couldn't
do those things, so they went with Drake May. Getting
back to DJ though, the Giants are a little bit
stuck and they know it, and so we'll see how
this season works out. But this could be a situation
where when it's all said and done this year Fellas

(28:58):
they blow that whole organize station up, from GM to
head coach to quarterback, they say goodbye to everybody and
they start from scratch.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
Yeah, so my impression. I tweeted out the clip of
Dable and Drake May. I thought that was that was
the most informative two.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Minutes of hard knocks. I think I've ever.

Speaker 9 (29:16):
Watched because I changed my opinion on Drake May, and
I'm not listen. I know we sound very stubborn and
opinionated here on the show. I like to change my opinions.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
It means that I'm wrong, and it means I'm learning.
I didn't think Drake May had the.

Speaker 9 (29:31):
Mental capacity to do what he did in front of
Brian Dable. I did not think that he was there
yet as someone who's only started in college football for
two years for a very very air raid type offense
to be able to sit down on a board and
discuss what he Go watch that clip. It's like a
two minute clip of Drake May on the whiteboard with

(29:52):
Brian Dabele. Of all of the quarterback interviews I watched
on Hard Knocks, that was by far the best.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Ke May impress me the most.

Speaker 9 (30:01):
Now, I didn't watch every second of everything, obviously, we
only watched what we were allowed to watch. But of
all of go back and watch that in that episode
and watch it's like a ten to fifteen minute period
of the episode where they bring in Caleb Williams and
Jade Daniels and Drake May all back to back to back,
and you tell me which of the quarterbacks were the

(30:22):
most impressive to you? Jan Daniels had trouble remembering right
away and they said that, they said he struggles with
information recall.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
So what does Brian Dabile do. Halfway through the interview.

Speaker 9 (30:32):
He goes back to the beginning and said, hey, what
did I say five minutes ago?

Speaker 2 (30:35):
And Jane Daniels couldn't remember a simple letter? Now he'll learn.

Speaker 9 (30:39):
But Drake May didn't have to learn. He was ready
tundra two unders boom right, Louis listens that. I mean,
it was impressive and the amount of information recall is
twenty one years old. The amount of information recall you
need at this position is off the charts. I played
high school football in two thousand and four. You know
what the play calls were?

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Twenty?

Speaker 4 (31:01):
That was it? Thirty eight?

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Wedge Like it's a different like.

Speaker 9 (31:05):
You have to be a savant at the at football
now to play this position.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
You have to be a.

Speaker 9 (31:12):
Genius to process that information in real time, and not
everybody could do it. I don't care how physically talented
you are. There are some people that just do not
have the mental capacity to handle that. I think Drake
May does.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
Now.

Speaker 9 (31:26):
Physically, we'll see, but mentally I think he can handle
the position, maybe better than the other two guys drafted
in front of him. At least that was the impression
I got the other night from watching that episode. It
was really really intuitive.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Well listen, you said where it's like savant and genius,
and we are Grace this morning with a savant slash
genius known as Dan Freakin' Buyer.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Huh, who's got the latest?

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (31:51):
What is going on?

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Buddy? Good mornin fellas.

Speaker 11 (31:53):
Love of the conversation, you know, and in fairness to
Joe Shane, because we've all said this, when you're picking
that high, you do have to at least look at
other at quarterbacks because you don't ever want to pick
there again. But I love the new hard Knocks. I
actually think it's better than all of the other iterations.

Speaker 5 (32:08):
Guys.

Speaker 11 (32:09):
Us is on the board in the medal count. Yes,
it is early in the Olympics. We've got a silver

Speaker 5 (32:22):

Speaker 11 (32:24):
They lead the metal count early on that's where we
are with the Olympic medal count. Team USA tips off
tomorrow against Serbia. Not feeling too well as Team USA
literally Anthony Davis and Joel and Biid are sick embid
miss practice today. Davis did practice after missing workouts earlier
this week. However, head coach Steve Curses. Both are expected
to play tomorrow. Australia tops Spain in group play in

(32:47):
men's basketball, ninety two to eighty, Patty Mills at nineteen
for the Aussies. Germany took care of Japan ninety seven
to seventy seven, Franz Wagner with twenty two points for
Germany in that one. Some golf going on right now
Overseas Senior Open Championship kJ Choy with the lead at
nine under par and third round play with the live
golf EVET in the UK is just getting underway with

(33:08):

Speaker 5 (33:09):

under three. I'm open.

Speaker 11 (33:12):
Taylor Pendrith has the lead on the PGA to Or
gilty Off in the Twin Cities a little bit later
on today, but he'll start the day Atsweld under and
in the lead. And if you guys missed it late
baseball last night, Diamondbacks beat the Pirates four to three
Arizona and now a game back of the Padres for
the final wild card in the National League. That wildcard
in the National League is going to be a log jam.
San Diego right now is one sixth straight. It's rich

(33:34):
knows pretty well they leave Baltimore. But right now Diamondback's
playing pretty good baseball as well.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Throw back to you guys, Thank you Dan. It is

Your face, boom metal.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Synchronized swimming, now what you know had a paradise for you.

Speaker 9 (34:15):
You should see the events you could bet on. Here
are the events you could bet on at bet MGM.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Are you ready for this?

Speaker 4 (34:21):
Hell?

Speaker 9 (34:22):
Yeah, badminton, canoeing, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, handball.

Speaker 2 (34:29):
You want to bet on rowing, We've got you surfing.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
How about that?

Speaker 2 (34:34):
Everything about betting on surfing? Guys, what do you think
Although you're.

Speaker 7 (34:38):
Leaving out the king of Olympic sports table tennis.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
It's all water polo. You can bet on all of it.
It's wild. This is a Schmorgsborg.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
I just picture a gambler somewhere saying, Okay, yeah, you
bet a lot of NFL, a lot of NBA. You
know you haven't lived until you've bet canoeing.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
You know you feeling out there?

Speaker 9 (35:01):
Cawba dude, Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Man at a lot of options over there.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I'm not sure which is the most degenerate of the events.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
I think canoeing on the running. Yeah, gotta be up
to all right.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
We've got Rich Hornberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith FSR,
betting analyst.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
I'm Brian now coming up next.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Our guy, Jared has been in the lab concocting a
parlay that has great value and a great payout. We'll
get his two cents right around the corner. It is
Fox Sports Saturday, right here on Fox Sports Radio. It
is Fox Sports Saturday, right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Uh Selene, this hour go Jered.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Next hour is what I've been told by our trusted
technical producer, Chris Burpfett.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Hey, we don't have time to waste. Let's dive into this.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Check this out our late.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Okay, Jared Smith, you have been hard at work. What
do you have for us this morning? You guys want
to get weird this morning or you want to be
more traditional? What do we think? We were just talking
about betting on canoeing. I think yeah, you're right, We're
already weird. Let's get weird, all right. I've got an
Olympic parlay.

Speaker 9 (36:09):
Actually it's a third Olympic parlay. It's like a decathlon, right,
We've got one Olympic bet and a couple of other
normal traditional bets and then just the regular old baseball
money line parlay. We'll give you the the fun one first,
all right, We'll get that out of the way. So
I really like Cocoa goff in this Olympics. She was
unable to compete in twenty twenty because of Covid. She

(36:31):
was back in the Olympics this year. The surface suits
her right. They're playing this tennis tournament at Roland Garros.
It is a clay court. There is a handicapable element there.
It's not just going for your country. We know that
Coco Goff is better on clay, right, she slows down
a little bit of her serf. She's a better player
on clay. IgA Shuatek is a rock star. She's a

(36:51):
massive favorite in the women's Olympic tournament. But I think
Coco GOP's worth a little bit of a of a
sprinkle here.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
So we're gonna put her in a parlay.

Speaker 9 (37:00):
Boy, we're getting nuts with the other two leg I
kind of hinted at this last week that I was
gonna do a baseball football futures parlay. I thought I
was gonna put the Jets in there. I kind of
changed my mind. I'm off the Jets bandwagon. As much
as I love my team, I'm gonna go Eagle. So
we're gonna go Eagles and Phillies all Philly. How about that,
phillip It's been a good few years for Philly sports.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
So we'll go Coco Gop five to one. Phillies win
the World Series four to one. Eagles win the Super
Bowl fourteen to one. This thing is like five hundred
and sixty to one.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
I put fifty.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Bucks on it. It's gonna pay out twenty eight grand.

Speaker 9 (37:31):
I'll see all at the window in February when we
all go, you know, hanging out at NOBU or something.
All Right, now, the more traditional moneyline parlay with baseball today.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
This one's pretty easy, guys.

Speaker 9 (37:41):
I'm putting some favorites who lost yesterday, one favorite that
did win yesterday, but some favorites that lost yesterday that
I think bounce back today. Let's start with the Phillies.
Really good series, Phillies, Guardians. This could be a World
Series preview right here.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
I kind of hope it is, right.

Speaker 9 (37:54):
I don't think Carlos Carrasco is gonna hold down this
Phillies offense. They only scored one run yesterday. Has been
bad this year. Trey Turner's to pick the click today's
eight for thirteen career off Carlos Carrasco. Lookout for Turner
to either go yard or have an RBI or something good,
and I'll think the Cardinals Brian I don't know if
you watch that Cardinals game last like crazy game, extra innings,

(38:14):
Cardinals lost it late and that scored.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Four runs in the tenth.

Speaker 9 (38:18):
I think Kyle Gibson bounces back today. Gibbs has been
great over this last five starts, ten and a half
k's per nine, getting a lot of soft contact. I
think Cardinals bounce back today. And sorry, bo, I've got
to phase the Dodgers because they're an underdog today. And
here's the nugget of the day. The Dodgers as an
underdog no bueno four and seven this year doesn't happen
a lot, but when it does happen, they don't win,

(38:39):
and seventeen and twenty four as a dog since twenty two. Again,
they're not a dog often, but when they are an underdog,
they tend to lose. They're throwing some triple A guy today,
Robleski and Ronel Blanco has been pretty good for Houston.
On the other side, the Astros have been hot, so
we'll go Astros Phillies, Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
The three leg.

Speaker 9 (38:56):
Money line parlay in baseball today pays about four to
one at that MGM.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
I do like that you've thrown in the Cardinals in
your parlay like that. How about you in the dark
of nights, you know, swapping out the Jets for the
Eagles to win it all.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Wow, Oh my goodness, I didn't even catch that.

Speaker 6 (39:18):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
This is a week apart.

Speaker 9 (39:20):
It is.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Well, here's my thought, guys. I think the Jets and
we can talk about this at some point. We have
a lot of time in the next couple couple of
weeks to get into football.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
Right.

Speaker 9 (39:28):
Football is like right around the corner. I think the
Jets are gonna start fast. I'm worried about the finish.
I really am high on the Eagles this year. I
think Kellen Moore is going to be the best thing
that's ever happened to Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
I think it's it's tempo.

Speaker 9 (39:45):
I'm excited about their offense, their defense with Fangio. I'm
also very excited about But I think Philly, man. I
maybe it's not down on the Niners. Maybe I just
think Philly is significantly better than last year, and I
think they're right there. I think Philly, Detroit, and San
Francisco are all right in that same boat.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
I don't think the Niners are a cut above anyone
this year with that offensive line.

Speaker 4 (40:06):
The Philadelphia Eagles have a great roster. I mean what
you fail to realize when you are I don't know,
chained to the numbers because they finished the season on
that horrible slide the regular season and then leached into
the postseason. Well, I mean, they still have one of
the most dominant rosters in all of football. So I

(40:28):
completely agree with you there. They're in the top, They're
in the class of the NFC.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
I'm really interested to see Saquan behind that old line
and now Jason Kelsey retired, but it's still a really
good offensive line, much better than what he had with
the Giants.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
So that's gonna be a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
And to your point, Jared mixed in with a little
Kalen Moore love little tempo.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Yeah, gonna be really exciting.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
All right, Coming up next, this is one of the
worst football takes ever.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
We'll share it with you. Oh, Happy Saturday to you.
We start off with a.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
Just a a reckless and stinky opinion. I would say,
you know, stink delicious, stink delicious. So this is John Harbaugh,
head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, and he said something
about Lamar Jackson that just made me look sideways.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
You know, I almost went cross eyed.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
Yeah, I really go cross eye, Like what like what
he said made my brain hurt. This is what he said,
his vision for Lamar Jackson going forward.

Speaker 6 (41:39):
Here you go the vision.

Speaker 12 (41:40):
For Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 6 (41:41):
And it's a vision.

Speaker 12 (41:41):
It's something you see it like it's already happened. You
can see it like it's already been done. The victory
has already been won when you pour into a vision.
And the vision that we have together is a Lamar
Jackson is going to become and be known and be
recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the
history of the National Football League.

Speaker 4 (42:03):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
Okay, So here's the first part of it, guys.

Speaker 3 (42:07):
Is I think the term goat gets thrown around like
you're in the running if you throw twenty five touchdown
passes in one season, you know what I mean, Like
it could go your way. The Tom Brady mount Everest
Mountain that you would have to like we'll do Olympic style,

(42:28):
you know, like the high jump.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
You have to clear that high bar.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
That that high bar is so ridiculously high for any quarterback.
Let alone, a guy like Lamar who's insanely talented, but
he's two and four in the playoffs. He hasn't even
gotten to a super Bowl. Like, he's never going to
have the accomplishments that even halfway rival Tom Brady when

(42:54):
it's all said and done.

Speaker 2 (42:55):
And this is the larger point.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
I think that and you hear this in sports, sports radio,
sports TV?

Speaker 2 (43:03):
What happened? What have you? With fans?

Speaker 3 (43:05):
Your opinions shouldn't turn into reactions. That's the bottom line.
Where there are countless examples. Tim Tebow is a great
example of this. When he was in the NFL, there
were a lot of critics like, man, Tebow is freaking brutal,
and the Tim Tebow Army would come back and overreact
and be like.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
N uh, Tim Tebow is awesome.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
Right now, Lamar Jackson is world's better as an NFL
quarterback than Tim Tebow. But the same concept applies to
John Harbaugh. Right there are critics like, ah, Lamar can't
get it done in the playoffs, Man, this guy's overrated.
Whatever he's watching, reading, what have you? And he's reacting
to that with no, oh, he's gonna be the goat.

(43:46):
And it's like, Bro, you can't have your opinions turned
into reactions. And that's what's happening here with John Harbaugh.
It's a classic example of it happening, and it steered
him into the choppy waters of a horrible take.

Speaker 6 (44:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:02):
Well, listen, I think I think belief is very useful
in sports. If you don't believe you can do something,
you can't. You know, So everything in life really starts
with belief. You have to have the thought I can
before you accomplish anything. And so in this situation, I mean,

(44:25):
is it conceivable or possible that Lamar Jackson can be
the greatest quarterback of all time? No? Im, Well, look
I refuse to say that at this point in his career.
I mean, is it possible could the Ravens win every
Super Bowl for a decade?

Speaker 6 (44:41):
I guess?

Speaker 4 (44:42):
You know, could Lamar Jackson be the reason or the
biggest reason why? I guess? But you know, I mean,
if we're being pragmatic, that's the correct answer, Brian, you
know it's no. I mean, but oftentimes, like, it's not
being a pragmatist that gets you to that level. Uh,
it's having it's daring to believe that you're better than

(45:04):
everybody that can get you that. It's almost like a
self obsessed, you know, soul determined you know.

Speaker 8 (45:14):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
I don't want to call it a religion because that's
not really apt, but it's it is a belief in
yourself or in your team or in your coaches that
you could get something done that nobody else or everybody
else wants to get done.

Speaker 6 (45:29):
You know, it's a it's.

Speaker 4 (45:31):
So so I guess, I guess what I'm trying to
say is John Harbaugh let the inner thoughts out. You know,
he he gave you an idea of how he thinks
about about the plan, and and I don't blame him
for thinking that way. I think it's a good thing
to think that way. I think if you set your
your expectations or your your goals, you know, insanely high,

(45:55):
if you fall short of those insanely high goals, well
you're still going to achieve an incredible amount. So I
think that's what he did. I think he led us
inside of his head and we got to hear a
little bit about his goal setting and what his hopes are.
But the reality, if we are going to be pragmatic,

(46:15):
is he's not. He's not going to be the greatest
of all time, and in fact, it can be detrimental
to Lamar Jackson because now you're putting some weighty expectations
on him by saying these things publicly.

Speaker 9 (46:28):
Nailed it, ranch Suson, you nailed it, like it. It's
okay to think you're Like I think I'm the best
broadcaster that's ever lived. I think that every day. But
am I gonna go and say that to everyone? No, Like,
you have to have that mindset that you're going to
achieve greatness, but you don't say the quiet part out loud.
That's that's just you just don't do it like. It

(46:50):
kind of reminds me of It reminds me of two things.
Like when I listen to that clip Brian, two things
came into my mind. The first thing is Harbought sounds
like a politician running for He's like, oh, he's the greatest,
He's the greatest. It's the greatest we've ever had. It's
the greatest quarterback ever.

Speaker 4 (47:05):
It's the best.

Speaker 9 (47:06):
The second part of it sounds like a kid going
up to their parents, mean, like mommy, Daddy, when I
grow up, I want to be Spider Man.

Speaker 2 (47:16):
Like, Okay, like that's cute.

Speaker 9 (47:19):
You're not gonna be Spider Man, Like, it's not gonna happen.
I'm sorry, there's a fictional character. There's only one of them,
and you're not it. Sorry kid, like you're not gonna
say that to your child. But it's okay that they
think that way, Like it's kind of a fantastical thought,
like you want to be a hero. I get it,
but that's not reality. That's not the world we live in.

(47:40):
And I think there's two types of you know, two
types of brain waves that you have to have. You
have to have those fantastical thoughts that fuel your fire.
That chip on your shoulder helps you achieve greatness. But
that's not your public persona, like that's your inner monologue talking.
And then you have to departmentalize that, especially as a

(48:01):
head football coach. You have to compartmentalize a lot. As
a head football coach, you certainly have to compartmentalize that.
You can't reveal all of your thoughts and dreams and
hopes and plans.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
You have to be very calculated, very buttoned up.

Speaker 9 (48:16):
Everything has to be planned, especially when you're talking to
the media, Like it'd be one thing if he said
that in private in a meeting with Lamar, Like, I'm
totally fine with that, totally. And even if that private
meeting with Lamar was on hard Knocks and we all
saw it and we saw him sit down in a
room with Lamar and said you are going to be
the greatest quarterback of all time, I am completely fine

(48:38):
with that.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
You are motivating your player.

Speaker 9 (48:41):
You don't go say it to the media because then
you're right Rich You put that target on Lamar's back
and it's hard to live up to that, right.

Speaker 3 (48:48):
It's listen, I understand you have to believe you can
do things that are really unrealistic. As an athlete, I
get that. Even as a coach, you have to believe
in your players to that degree. But listen, the Carolina
Panthers can believe all they want that they're gonna win
a Super Bowl this season.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
They're not going to.

Speaker 3 (49:06):
I mean, they have to believe they can do things
that are probably out of reach. But like with both
of you guys saying it, you don't go and say
it in front of the media with all the microphones
in your face. If the Carolina Panthers came out and
said we're gonna win it all this season, we'd be like, right, yes,

(49:30):
it's just silly. That's the same thing with Lamar. Yeah,
he's insanely talented, but when you look up in the playoffs,
he's two and four. He's thrown six touchdowns and six picks.
His passer rating is less than seventy six, just for conn.
You look at all the passer rating stats last season
in the NFL, I'm scrolling down, scrolling down, all right,

(49:52):
we're getting Josh Dobbs, Nope, gotta go lower. Sam Howell, Nope, lower,
Zach Wilson, Nope lower, Mac Jones, no lower. The only
guy that had a passer rating worse than Lamar's playoff
passer rating was Bryce Young, who is a rookie without
great weapons.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
That's how bad it's been for Lamar.

Speaker 3 (50:14):
He has no chance to go down as the goat,
and so for harbought to. Yeah, he's trying to breathe
confidence into his guy. I fully believe that he believes this.
But it's crazy town. It's crazy town one oh one,
and I think you nailed it rich where. I don't

(50:35):
think this is something that it's going to back the
critics off. If anything, this tightens the focus of you're
not doing this, you're not doing that, You're not excelling
and exceeding in the playoffs. I that's all it does
for me. So it's a pipe tream.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Man.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
At the end of the day, this is a total
pipe tream. And I don't think this actually helps the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (50:56):
I think that it is.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
It's the eleven year old who believes in his team
and someone spits facts and says, Nope, your team isn't
the best because of X, Y and Z, and you're like,
nuh uh, my team is the best. That's Harbaugh. He's
given us an eleven year old argument of no, Lamar
is awesome, and it's like, no, bro, he's really not.

Speaker 6 (51:16):
Well. I mean, is he awesome?

Speaker 4 (51:18):
Yeah, I mean but is he going to achieve what
John Harbaugh has laid out? Probably not. You know, I
think he's I think he's an excellent quarterback. I think
that he makes the Ravens much much better. And I
think without Lamar Jackson, John Harbaugh wouldn't have a job.
I mean, that's that's unless they found somebody else, you know,

(51:40):
unless they found a different quarterback to lead the way
the way that Lamar Jackson has been able to over
the course of time, because if you remember, at the
end of the Flacco era, there were a lot of
calls for Harbaugh's job and Lamar Jackson, and by the way,
to John Harbaugh's credit, he was able to transition to
this young quarterback who they snuck back into the first

(52:01):
round to draft, by the way, and the rest is history.
So I think I think he has a belief in
Lamar that maybe a lot of people didn't didn't have
coming out of even coming out of Loulllville, you know,
because a lot of people wanted to see if he
would make a better receiver at the NFL level, and

(52:23):
John Harbaugh believed in his talents as a quarterback. A
lot of people didn't think he was a first round
talent at quarterback, and John Harbaugh and his group over
there with the Ravens, they did. And so, like I said,
all things have to start with belief. But you also
have to be careful of when you're speaking about yourself

(52:45):
and goals that you set for yourself that aren't going
to involve others, And you got to be careful when
you're speaking about goals that do and in this case,
he was talking specifically about somebody else, So you're putting
the cart way in front of the hole. And that's
where I have a problem with what he said. I
don't think it's bad for him to have belief. I
don't think it's bad for him to think these things.

(53:08):
But you are in some ways, like you mentioned, Brian,
he sounds like a politician. Yeah, in a lot of ways,
the head coach is a politician. And sometimes politicians put
their foot in their mouth and they say something that
they can't unsay and we can't unhear. Well, that's where
we're at with this quote from John Harbaugh. And now, unfortunately,

(53:29):
when this season goes the way it goes for better
or worse, you know, this quote is going to follow them. Yeah,
And so it doesn't matter if they have a great
regular season but they flame out in the postseason like
the Ravens usually do. At some point, it doesn't matter
if they shoot if they win this super Bowl, but

(53:50):
they don't win another one after that. With Lamar Jackson,
at some point this quote is going to come back
to haunt John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.
It may not be soon, but it will and and
it's sad that he let you know the quiet things
spoken out loud, because I don't think it does, you know,
just going back to the original point, I don't think

(54:10):
it does anybody any favors have that belief. But but
in this case, since you're talking about somebody else, and
you know the position you're in and how how much
expectation gets levied with words like these, keep those thoughts
to yourself.

Speaker 9 (54:28):
If I was a betting man, I am, I would
bet that he backtracks.

Speaker 5 (54:33):
At some point.

Speaker 9 (54:34):
No, I comes back on and he says something along
the lines of I.

Speaker 2 (54:39):
Really you know, like maybe not like a full back track.
But it don't make that bet.

Speaker 9 (54:45):
Talking about a reclassification of what he meant, because he
is good, because rich and Elle, he is gonna be
asked about this now, and Lamar is going to be
asked about this now a lot, and at some point
they're just gonna want to c verify, well, you know
this and that, and I don't know, it feels like

(55:05):
a really extreme thing for him to say, Like John
Harbo's a really smart this isn't his first time in
the league coaching, Like this guy's been in the league
now for what thirty years coaching like for him to
say that knowing the two guys that are obviously the
go it's Brady and Mahomes, Like obviously, Like anyone who's
watched football at all in the last twenty years, whether

(55:27):
you're a coach, whether you're a fan, you know who
the two best quarterbacks have been.

Speaker 2 (55:32):
It's it smacks you on the head. They just had
a Netflix roast for one of them.

Speaker 9 (55:37):
It ain't Lamar. I love Lamar. I want a lot
of money on him at MVP last year. I'm happy
that he is in a good situation. Clearly they have
very high hopes this year. But there has to be
some kind of reclassification. There has to be because that's
just it's a crazy comment to say to the media.

Speaker 5 (55:53):
It really is.

Speaker 4 (55:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:55):
Look, man, if anything, he's gonna double down. This is
John Harbaugh, you know, and he's dug in. I would
be floored, stunned, you know, I would be able to
close my mouth right like just like, oh my gosh,
you just reversed course, or you know, I got a
little carried away.

Speaker 9 (56:12):
I don't And that's what I think he's gonna say, Like,
you know, guys, I'm a confident guy, right, I'm a
confident guy.

Speaker 2 (56:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (56:19):
Yeah, Hey, man, I'll believe it if.

Speaker 6 (56:22):
I hear it.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this
instead of and again this is revision, is history.

Speaker 6 (56:27):
This FATA really quick.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
Instead of saying he'll be the greatest of all time, imagine,
he said, Lamar Jackson will win more than one super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
I mean, that's that's at least realistic to be the goat.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
Tom Brady won seven super Bowls. You know that, seven
more years, Lamar.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
That's the thing, Like, that's more than every NFL franchise ever.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
Brady has more.

Speaker 3 (56:51):
And you're gonna talk about a guy who's two and
four in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
That's why it's the comment made no sense.

Speaker 9 (56:57):
Like it's like telling me the sky is green, Like, no,
it's not, John, It's not like you're wrong.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
It makes absolutely no sense. But yeah, I believe that
he fully believes that.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Yes, and I don't.

Speaker 6 (57:10):
Think he's backing off of it.

Speaker 3 (57:12):
But yeah, be interesting how often that comment gets brought
up time and time again over the next handfull of years.
We'll wait and find out. We got rich Orenberger, Penn
State All American. Lamar Jackson's associate agent.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
As we turned out, he doesn't have an agent.

Speaker 6 (57:28):
Rich maybe you should.

Speaker 2 (57:29):
Sign up, that's true, give up.

Speaker 4 (57:30):
But but he he has trusted people.

Speaker 3 (57:34):
He's got publicists, definite. We got Jared Smith FSR betting analyst.
I'm Brian No coming up next. This athlete is the
anti Caitlin Clark. We'll explain. It's Fox Sports Saturday, right
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. So Aaron Rodgers in

(57:55):
the news again for the same story where he missed
Jets Mandatory Mini Camp and the story Jess Will.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Not Die is his Groundhog Day. Yeah, you had Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (58:10):
He was on the Party Might Take podcast and he
just wanted to clarify a few things.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
You know, went to.

Speaker 3 (58:15):
Egypt, went to go see the sites instead of being
there for Jets Mandatory Mini Camp. Got fined his whole thing.
Here's what Rogers said about it.

Speaker 13 (58:24):
The thing that I think people don't understand is that
when when I was in the NFC North and playing
for that team years ago, there used to be a
real thing called mini camp where it was you had
one of them. Usually sometimes it's right up for the draft.
But either way, it was five practices and three days Friday, Saurday, Sunday.
So two practices on Friday, two on Saturday, one on Sunday.

(58:46):
And now it's not mini camp. They can arbitrarily put
a tag on whatever week of Ohay's they want. Yeah,
it is the mini camp week, which makes it somehow
more mandatory than the other weeks. But it was an
OTA schedule. That's how it's You know how words can
be a little deceiving from time to time. You can
make a story of the fact that I missed a

(59:08):
mini camper when it was really two OTA days, right,
interest I came to the first ten.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
Okay, my goodness. Here's the bottom line, guys, is.

Speaker 3 (59:17):
I think Aaron Rodgers is the anti Caitlin Clark. Meaning
this think about Caitlin Clark. There are all these critics,
they are all these haters. There's all this drama around her,
and what does she do. She lessens the drama, She
decreases the drama. She doesn't add to it. Hey, Caitlin,
what do you think about Kennedy Carter? Carter like decleting

(59:40):
you like she's an NFL middle linebacker. That's just basketball.
Just decreasing drama, not adding to it. What does Aaron
Rodgers do? He does the freaking opposite. Okay, he creates
more drama. He adds to it where instead of saying, hey,
look it was just a minor miscommunication, but no big deal.
We've moved forward. My focus is on the season. If

(01:00:02):
you missed it, I only played four plays last season,
right like, it's not about this.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Season, focus on football.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
It's I want to clarify this misinformation about oh my gosh,
dude again with just more and more drama. He's high maintenance.
He's worth it, but he has no idea how to
be less dramatic or low maintenance. Low maintenance is not
an Aaron Rodgers vocabulary.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
No, I don't disagree with anything he just said.

Speaker 6 (01:00:31):
I think this is.

Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
A really bad look and maybe not really bad. That's
probably over exaggerating. It's very typical of what we've heard
from Aaron Rodgers over the years. And I think if
it were a different quarterback, or if it was a
different player, we would have a stronger reaction toward this.
But did we expect anything different? I mean, and also,

(01:00:58):
by the way, what are we arguing here? What are
we arguing here, So the Jets said that this weekend
was going to be mandatory and you decided to skip it,
and per your head coach, you didn't have an excused absence.
So what are we missing about this story? And then,
by the way, and then the first thing you say

(01:01:19):
about it is, well, listen, we can barely call these
mini camps anymore. And you're arguing semantics. Yeah, like you're
clearly you're wrong, and you're one of those people who
can't admit it when you're wrong. Yep, and that sucks
for everybody around you. Bub that's the problem with that, honestly,
it's it's it's along the lines of you ever been

(01:01:42):
with somebody who can't apologize, like they can't admit guilt.

Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
Yes, it's poisonous.

Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
It is poison I mean it doesn't matter if they're
a friend or you're trying to have a relationship with
somebody like that, it will poison you and and the
relationship and the friendship and you won't have as strong
of a bond to somebody who can't take that level
of accountability. And then if it happens with something you know,
relatively small, because let's be honest, in the grand scheme

(01:02:11):
of things. Is it all that important that he made
it to that mini camp?

Speaker 6 (01:02:15):
No? Probably not.

Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
Would have been better if he told his head coach
where he was gonna be instead of mini camp. Probably,
and and you know, honestly, would would have been better
if he had his blessings. Yeah, yeah, it would have
been better if he had his blessings. But putting all
that aside, if the Jets go on and have a
great season, I mean, I'm sure all of this is
forgiven and nobody really cares. But it's it's the little

(01:02:38):
things do echo into the larger things. So when it
gets tough, are you gonna count on? Is that what
the leadership looks like? You know, are we gonna be
arguing semantics instead of actually what happened? When there's other
things you have to be accountable for. I just think
it's the wrong message to send to a team that's
barely got to enjoy or experience you as a player

(01:02:59):
or a leader.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Yet, what Rich just said is why I took the
Jets out of the Parlave.

Speaker 9 (01:03:06):
Just he just verbalized what I was thinking when I
was like, eh, you know, super Bowl is probably not
in the cards this year. No, I hope it is,
because it would be fun to get, you know, an
extra week during the Super Bowl bye week of Aaron
Rodgers explaining why he was in Egypt during mandatory mini
camp and still being on this story, you know, six
months later, But it does feel like what had happened

(01:03:28):
was like you, you know, you get caught red handed
doing something and you try to spin it around where
it's not as bad as it really seems, when in reality,
the correct answer to that question, I don't know the
context of what he was asked, but the.

Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Correct answer to the question is it's in the past.
Let's focus on football. I'm ready to win. Let's go
like in not trying.

Speaker 9 (01:03:50):
To twist it around so you don't seem as malicious
in your actions. You made a choice, you chose to
not be there, be accountable for whatever repercussions happen of
that choice. Like, that's it, And I'm fine with that
answer too. I'm fine if he comes out and says,
I made a decision, I wanted to go to this,

(01:04:13):
I went. I knew it wouldn't impact us winning a
super Bowl. I'm back, Let's go win a super Bowl. Yeah,
and at least you're taking accountability for your actions, and
that is what leadership is, even if it was the
wrong decision, and in hindsight was it the wrong decision?

Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
Eh?

Speaker 9 (01:04:32):
Do I care as a Jets fan if he was there,
like eight percent maybe the other ninety two percent is
more focused on the next six months, which is arguably
the most important six months, not what happened in the last
six months.

Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
So it's all about accountability.

Speaker 9 (01:04:49):
And as a quarterback in the NFL, you better have
supreme accountability.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
To me, that's the defining character of leadership.

Speaker 9 (01:04:57):
Are you gonna gaslight me in the telling me that
this event wasn't as important in as mini camp that
you missed, or are you going to take accountability and
then move forward?

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
You guys have seen the movie Donnie Brosco, Right, Oh,
great movie al Pacino. There's one line in it where
I think he tells Johnny Depp, he goes, even when
a wise guy is wrong, he's right, yep.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
And I think that's how Aaron Rodgers operates.

Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
He thinks he's a wise guy in the movie Donnie
Brosk even if he's wrong, he still feels like he's right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
And look, man, you rewind to what he said in January.

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Okay, think about what just happened with Egypt and the
explanation after the fact from Rogers, which you just heard.
He said this in January. He said, if you want
to be a winning organization and put yourself in a
position to win championships and be competitive, everything you do matters,
and the BS that has nothing to do with winning

(01:05:56):
needs to get out of the building.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
So we fast forward to July and he's.

Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
In BFE, right, he goes to Egypt instead of man
mandatory mini camp and then he's explaining, oh.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Actually our signals got crushed. It technically it's probing us.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
That is the BS that needs to get out of
the building.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
You're part of the problem, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
You got to practice what you preach where the stuff
that has nothing to do with winning. You got to
drop kick that stuff away from the headquarters there. And
he's not doing that. So incredibly talented, very productive, high maintenance,
worth it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
But man, you can see why.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
The Packers are like, bro, twenty years of twenty years
of this is what the Jets are getting right now. Hey,
we've got twenty years of goodness of Dan Bayer in
the radio, artipaves right here. I feel like there's twenty
more years of greatness in the doors to come here.

Speaker 5 (01:06:56):
Now you laugh, but you're not far off. It's about
nineteen years.

Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
Wow, you know I was right there?

Speaker 5 (01:07:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Summer of five. How about that? There
were some Olympics going back then.

Speaker 11 (01:07:08):
The US men's gymnastics team medaled in two thousand and
eight in Tacoma.

Speaker 5 (01:07:13):
Bronze could be a bit difficult.

Speaker 11 (01:07:15):
Wasn't a great morning, especially for American gymnast Brody Malone.

Speaker 5 (01:07:18):
Didn't even qualify.

Speaker 11 (01:07:19):
For the men's all around, which will take place the
final coming up on Wednesday. Instead, the Americans will be
represented by Fred Richard and Paul Judah in that all
around competition. But a rough go for the US men's
gymnastics team. US men's basketball team tomorrow will take on
Serbia and their Olympic opener. Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid
both expected to play. Davis has been sick and beat

(01:07:40):
this now sick as well. He didn't practice today, but
that coach Steve Kerr expects both to go tomorrow. We
get some webbee action today. France and Brazil playing in
the Olympics. That comes up in about forty five minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:07:51):
Guys.

Speaker 11 (01:07:52):
Earlier today, Australia drops Spain ninety two to eighty in
group play, while Germany was a winner against Japan ninety
seven seventy seven. Maybe some people are cooling off on
the jets as you guys were talking about Texan's a
hot pick this year. Jill Mixon missing a six straight
practice with a soft kissue injury for the Texans in
training camp today. And Golf kJ Choi continues to lead

(01:08:15):
the Senior Open Championship at nine under par at Carnousti.
Live golf event is in the UK, and John rom
leads at eight under par, but he's got some company.
Ave Answer and Andy Ogletree share the lead with him
at eight under par. Camp Smith's shot back PJA Tour
Today's in the Twin Cities. Taylor Pendrith will see off
in the third round with the lead at twelve under par.

Speaker 6 (01:08:35):
Guys, back to you, Hey, thank you Dan.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
I wanted to say this real fast because I saw
this earlier in the week and it needs to be
highlighted what the Vikings are doing. So Kyrie Jackson, the
young defensive back from Oregon, tragically died in a car
accident two weeks ago, so they're gonna honor him. They're
gonna have a kjdcal on their helmets, but they're also
going to pay Jackson's full signing bonus to his family.

(01:09:43):
Love the and that's just such a classic move, and
it made me think we always talk about organizations being
so cold, and you see this from time to time
where a player gets released and they don't even know it,
they don't hear from the organization. They find out on
Twitter or one of their buddies calls them, like, bro,
you just got released. He's like, what like this is

(01:10:04):
the opposite of that what the Vikings are doing, and
it's got to be highlighted because, yes, the business can
be cold to a fault, and some of these teams
don't do their players justice and give them the proper respect.
I love that the Vikings are giving the proper respect
for Kyrie Jackson. And I know they have deep wallets,
they've got deep pockets, but they don't have to pay

(01:10:27):
this signing bonus to his family. It's a very very
classy gesture, and I just love what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
Yeah, there's no doubt about it. It's uh, you know,
it's so funny when I don't want to say funny
because that illustrates.

Speaker 6 (01:10:41):
Or kind of gives the wrong emotion behind this story.

Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
But I didn't think very far down the path of like, hey,
what about his signing bonus because of the tragedy.

Speaker 6 (01:10:55):
You know, I didn't get there mentally at all with
the story.

Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
I was just concentrating on how awful it is that
such a young life was taken and talented, you know,
I it's it always feels harder when you know there's
so much potential with the person. And that may sound
a little you know, all human life.

Speaker 6 (01:11:14):
Obviously is valuable.

Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
And it may sound a little like, oh, you know
this this person is more worthy than that person. That's
not what I'm trying to illustrate either, But but there's
something to that, Like when you lose somebody who has
an insanely bright future, when he's on the cusp of
doing all of those things that he hoped and was
striving for his whole life, it's exceptionally sad. And so

(01:11:39):
for the Vikings to make sure that that wasn't the
final chapter that you know, publicly, our last impression of
this story wasn't how sad of an experience this would be,
but that there was some good that came out of it.
You know, that the family would reap some benefit from
this awful tragedy. Again they trade that signing bonus for

(01:12:02):
their sons or nephews or brothers or you know, uncle's life. Yeah, absolutely,
there's no question about it. But you know, cheers to
the Vikings for for handling their business and and handling
it the way all businesses frankly should. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:12:18):
I don't know if Ziggie Wolf was the one in,
you know, pulling the trigger here and you know, getting
making this deal done. But I mean he's a he's
a you know, really well respected owner. You know, father
or parents were Holocaust survivors and you know, came came
to this country at a very young age. So that's
a really uh, it's it's a good it's it's a
great backstory. It's a fantastic story in general. I mean

(01:12:41):
it's it's a really it's not a feel good story
at its beginning, but at least it has a happy
ending in in in the happiest the possible capacities. Not
often you see NFL teams, uh, free and willing with
their money like this. So so kudos to the Vikings.
I don't know who was the person in charge of
making it happen, but it was really really well done
and well thought out.

Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
Gesture.

Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
Yeah, and uh, I like it's funny right in a
way because Skull the chant. Yeah, they were like skull
and they're doing the clapping thing right that that means cheers. Yeah,
like Rich has said, cheers to the Vikings. It's funny
how that ties in. By the way, the text tone
I have for one of our bosses, Scott Shapiro, it's skull.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
So every time it's like dude, dude skull.

Speaker 9 (01:13:30):
I'm like jarring every time you text you, every time
your boss text you.

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
Oh, well, what's going on? I'm like, well, filling what
mailer's off? What's going on here, Scott.

Speaker 6 (01:13:38):
Let's go all right.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
We got Rich Hornberger, Penn State All American, Jared Smith
FSR betting analyst. I'm Brian Nell coming up next. We bond.
This is our time to come together. Rich sees Lamar
Jackson one way. I see him the other way. This
is where we bond. Prop it up, prop Betskalore. We'll
get into it. It's Fox Sports Saturday, right here on
Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday, right here

(01:14:02):
on Fox Sports Radio. I'm trying to guard against speaking
in a like a staccato voice, like to mimic the
song in the background, like.

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
It's Fox Sports other day, you know, something like that.
I'm just trying my heart. Let's get it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
We have no time to waste. Let's dive into this.

Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
Prop it up player plays.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Okay, prop bets go, Lord Jared, We'll start with you.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
What do you have for us?

Speaker 9 (01:14:30):
Well, I think we're gonna see a very interesting cy
young race in the American League, and we get one
of the stars on the mound today to reach Schoogle.

Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Facing the Twins, we're going under five and a half hits.

Speaker 9 (01:14:42):
The cy Young Award winner at least a favorite right
now to win the Cy Young in the American League
back at home today, He's under this in thirteen of
twenty starts.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Eight of nine at home.

Speaker 9 (01:14:50):
He loves pitching in the Motor City faces the Twins today.
Actually have hit well against lefties this year, but not
all lefties are created equal. Schoogle is a different caliber
of lefty. He has faced the Twins twice this season.
He has gone under.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Five and a half.

Speaker 9 (01:15:05):
It's both times. In fact, he's allowed just six hids
in one hundred and eighty seven pitches across the two
starts against the Twins. Lo Lo for Scoogle today, we're
going under five and a half.

Speaker 4 (01:15:15):
Okay, I'm going Olympics and I have won that starts
in twenty six minutes, so I'll go first there. Victor
weh Minyama his point total is nineteen and a half.
I'm gonna take the over for Team France facing Team Brazil.
I think a lot of these stars from the NBA
who are joining their hometown countries are going to have

(01:15:35):
to be stars on the floor for their hometown countries
because not much.

Speaker 6 (01:15:40):
Else going their way for them.

Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
And I'm gonna feel the same way with Team Brees
taking on Team Canada. Got to see Canada play a
little bit against Team USA. Not a great showing, but
they showed up for the game. So I think this
is gonna be a little bit of a challenge. I
got Yannis with over twenty five and a half points
in that matchup later in the day, so Victor woman. Yeah,
I'm over.

Speaker 6 (01:16:02):
Nineteen and a half. Yiannis over twenty five and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Twenty five and a half.

Speaker 9 (01:16:06):
Okay, all right, our Olympic guru, Yeah, I love it
right there, I do.

Speaker 6 (01:16:13):
I do.

Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Okay. You guys feeling risky at all today? Yes?

Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
Play in last hour?

Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
True, if it felt risky, you'd still have the jets
in that thing.

Speaker 4 (01:16:25):
Cheer. That's true.

Speaker 6 (01:16:26):
That's a good thing.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
Oh my goodness, that's a little too risky for my
blood brother.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
I still feel that you're feeling risky. Okay, we know
that Shotamonaga has been a fantastic picture for the Cubs. Okay,
it's got one hundred and eight strikeouts this season. Now
here's the thing, though, the Kansas City Royals, they are
fond of not striking out. Okay, they've struck out the

(01:16:50):
least amount of times this season. So it's at plus
money under four and a half strikeouts for Shota today.
I know what you're thinking, Oh gosh, I don't like it.
He could go deep into this game. A lot of
opportunities for strikeouts. I know, I know, but I'm gonna

(01:17:12):
go with a Royals team who's been playing good baseball lately.
I'm gonna take them to not get struck out more
than four times against Shota Imonaga. Give me the under
four and a half strikeouts for Showta today. I know
it's a risk, but I like the Royal chances. Yeah,
it's one of those like I could be talked into it.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
You know, fine, I'll put ten dollars on that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:17:37):
Well, here's what I feel about these props now, Like
these props are price like we're late in the year,
like we're a hunter games in the year, Like these
props are priced correctly. So you've got to be creative.
And also you want to be on the right side
of the plus money if you can't like if you
have a take that is outside of the norm, or

(01:17:57):
like a feeling that is outside of the normal run play,
you're getting good value at this stage of the market
because it is very sharp. The prop market especially is
very becoming more sharper as the days go by. But
Show it has been weird this year. I feel like
he's he's good and then he's not good.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
It's all about the rest and kind of the matchup.

Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
I think for him, I wish he hated the bet
because then I could say, showta immm, not gonna happen.
But that's pretty good, excellent, But I can't say it
because actually I dig it, and uh, I'm right there
with you, buddy.

Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
Okay, take some risks. Do we want a little more
action here?

Speaker 6 (01:18:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
Yeah, let's hear it all right.

Speaker 9 (01:18:39):
Blake snell over seventeen and a half out today is
on the list as well. So the Giants play a
double header, right, and anytime you get a double header,
I want the starting pitcher to go over their outs
in the first game or in the second game, either game. Frankly,
this is I think the first game. Yeah, it's the

(01:19:00):
first game for the Giants. Snells and so so that
makes more sense to me. Right, it's a doubleheader, you
gotta play two. You better go as far as possible
in the first game, Blake, because we need to.

Speaker 6 (01:19:10):
Now.

Speaker 9 (01:19:10):
I know it's the Rockies today. It's not exactly Murderer's Row,
but it I always like that approach when you have
like a legit starting pitcher in the first game of
a double header, the leash might be ten pitches longer
than it normally is.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Because we got another game to play after this.

Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
You know, I'm gonna go with a potential same game
parlay layer in addition to what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:19:33):
Okay, Jared, if you're feeling.

Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
Frisky, how about and it's uh, what does crack always say,
our guy Bill Krackenberger. It's when things are rich, even
says it on this show.

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
When it's correlated. That's what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
It's correlated here highly corral. I agree, he's probably gonna
go deep into this game. I'm gonna take the Rockies
to go over one and a half earned runs against
Blake Snell. Okay, like you just said, Yeah, it's not
Rummer's route, but he should go deeper in the game.
And we're talking about two earned runs scored. The Rockies

(01:20:08):
are weird like that. They just scored twenty a couple
of days ago against the Red Sox. They'll give you
like one run, or they'll give you like eight.

Speaker 9 (01:20:16):
And like that lineup too, I honestly do. Tovar, McMahon
and Diaz. I mean, Tovar is becoming like one of
the better middle infielders in all of baseball this year.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
He's having a really good year.

Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
I actually like both of those angles with your angle
on snow going deep into the game, and I agree
the over he goes.

Speaker 9 (01:20:34):
Six innings, he's probably giving up two runs, like probably probably, Yeah,
especially if you go seven, they're like, oh gosh, it's
almost lock City, all right?

Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
Coming up next, I have an opinion that I think
is pretty well reasoned.

Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
You guys be the judge.

Speaker 5 (01:20:50):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
I can't quite say I came bearing gifts this morning,
but I came bearing an opinion I think you might
agree with. At least it'll get you thinking, okay, if
you're not quite on board. I was thinking about this.
So Team USA is dan Byer just said a minute ago,
getting set to start the Olympic journey, the men's basketball team.

(01:21:15):
They take on Jokichen, Serbia tomorrow, and I was thinking
about this with Lebron. So you think about Team USA.
The last two games we've seen them play, right, they
survived against South Sudan by one point. Yeah, Lebron went
crazy at the end, had a big bucket when they
needed it in the final seconds. The next game against

(01:21:37):
Germany was a four point game and Lebron went off
at the end of that game. And I was just
thinking about Lebron and the way he plays with power, Like,
think about this. He's almost forty years old, and there
are times even in international basketball where you can handcheck, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
A more physical game.

Speaker 3 (01:21:57):
He's still like, I'm gonna put my head down, get
to the rim, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
It's amazing. But I was thinking about this.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Where a basketball player with power who is not a center, right,
I don't think they get the same type of praise
that other athletes in other sports get for being powerful.

Speaker 4 (01:22:20):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
If you think of Shack or some dominant centers, yeah
they'll get their shine, but non centers that play with power,
they normally don't get the same type of praise.

Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
Think of football, think of some of the.

Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
Great powerful players, whether offensively or defensively, Christian Okoye right
the Nigerian Nightmare, or Bo Jackson, Jerome Bettis where it's
like whoa, the power defenders Aaron Donald, Reggie White, JJ Watt, Ronnie.

Speaker 9 (01:22:51):
Lott like hitters and it's just this wow factor. Baseball
power pitchers, where it's Nolan Ryan, you know, Rand Johnson,
we ooh and ah when it's power. But in basketball,
if it's a non center like Lebron, I think it's
more of a shoulder shrug.

Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
I'm not saying I agree with it. I think that's
just the way it goes. Lebron is the leading scorer
in the history of the NBA, and he's not primarily
known for that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:21):
So ask yourself this.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
If he was a jump shooter, If Steph Curry was
the leading scorer in the history of the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
Do you think we'd be saying yeah. But I think
of his dribbling first.

Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
You know, he's got great handles, like no, it stands off,
it jumps off the page at you. If it's more
jump shot oriented, more you know, like Finesse, I'm not
saying it's right, but I think the power game for
a non center in basketball, I think they get short
changed on props. When I look at that, I'm like, man,

(01:23:55):
that's pretty crazy. You could put your head down. They
can't do anything about it. But we don't ow an
o the same way as we do with jump shooters.

Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
We just don't.

Speaker 4 (01:24:03):
It's a really good point, and it's very true. I don't.
I don't really think that it's always been that way
with Lebron though, Like this idea that he's been, you know,
this this powerful athlete. We didn't regard or respect for
his ability to take games over by by playing bulleyball,

(01:24:25):
because when he first got in the league. I think
a lot of people were talking about that. But the
focus has shifted as the game has shifted further and
further away from the basketball hoop, and his game has evolved.
You know, Lebron James became a better three point shooter
as he aged, and I think some of that was
by necessity. I think some of that was also because

(01:24:47):
he realized this is a weak point and being a
great he wants to work on his weaknesses and.

Speaker 6 (01:24:54):
His strengths alike.

Speaker 4 (01:24:55):
He could always play you know, the game where you know,
based on his size and his athleticism and his speed
and agility, and his you know, appropriateception, his his awareness
of where his body is in space. He was always
going to be able to drive the hoop and score
or find you know, the open lane to get the
ball in the hands of a wide open shooter. And

(01:25:17):
and so that's that was baked into him. That was
part of the DNA of his game, or maybe even
his DNA as an athlete, but but that that part
of his game that developed later on. I think it
really impressed people that he was able to change and
evolve and become more than what he was when he
entered the league. But yeah, I think the game's changed, Brian,

(01:25:39):
and I think that's a big reason why, you know,
maybe the outside shooters more heralded for what they're doing
as opposed to a player as unique as Lebron James.
How he's able to take over virtually every game that
he plays in.

Speaker 9 (01:25:53):
Yeah, the thing I love about Lebron and Brian, you
watch a lot more NBA than me, so you probably
have more context here. I get the vibe with Lebron
on that it's like anytime, anywhere, any place, like, regardless
of what is necessary, that day, he can give it
to you.

Speaker 6 (01:26:10):
You need the.

Speaker 9 (01:26:10):
Outside shot today, he can take him if he has to.
He probably doesn't want to, but if he has to,
if you're giving it to him, he's gonna take what
the defense is giving you. But then he also has
this bulldozer mentality. Yeah, this physicality that nobody else has,
and when that situation is called upon, he is like
some guys are afraid to go in there mix it up,

(01:26:32):
Like they just don't want to. It's longevity, right, They
just it's not as physical of a game as it
used to be. But they just don't prefer to be,
you know, in the fire. But I don't get that
feeling with him, like any time anywhere, Like regardless of
what the situation calls for, Lebron has the game to
provide it. I think that and also mental dishing, rebounding,

(01:26:54):
like not just scoring. That's what separates him from some
of the other greats. Like get me wrong, I love
Steph Curry, but but he doesn't have that part of
his game like a lot of those outside shooters today,
they don't have that part of their game where they
can be as effective putting their head down. That is
an old school mentality, I'm gonna put my head down
and I'm getting to the rim like that doesn't happen

(01:27:15):
as much in today's NBA, but he still has the
ability to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
And it's one of the parts of his game.

Speaker 9 (01:27:21):
That I respect the most because it's just when he's
in that mode, it's he's basically unstoppable.

Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Yeah, I respect it too.

Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
I just wish he would get more flowers because of
the power game, and it's it's just different.

Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
I really thought that this week. I hadn't thought about
it that way.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
But even when Lebron is shooting the ball and rich
you said this where it's not like he's Westbrook. It's
not like he can just attack the rim and give
you some mid range stuff. He can drop back and
drop three on you. But he looks powerful while shooting,
you know what I mean. He doesn't look graceful. That's
not a knock. But I think that's part of the

(01:28:00):
reason why he gets short changed. That's why he's not
known primarily as a scorer. It's because of the way
it looks, right, that's what it is. Where in baseball,
Paul schemes right, he burst onto the scene. Rookie Pitcher
with the Pirates, and it's like he's just striking dudes out.

Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
Left and right.

Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
He's got the power game, and you're like, wow, you're
just drawn to it. Where Lebron he's the leading scorer
in NBA history, and we talk to an all round player,
like you just said, Jared, he'll dish it, he'll rebound.
In his younger days, he played great, great defense. He's
an all around player. But I still think if his

(01:28:40):
offensive game looked different, if it looked more graceful, more artistic,
more shooting oriented. I think we think of Lebron as
a scorer first and foremost, and we don't think of
it like that because of the power aspect. And it's
just it's not celebrated as much in basketball as it

(01:29:00):
is in other sports. And I'm not saying it's right
or wrong. I just think that's the way it is.

Speaker 4 (01:29:07):
Yeah, I'm I'm a big fan of Lebron James, and
I you know, I askew the argument over who's the
greatest of all time here Jordan, because I think it's
opinion based, but based on physical tools. I think Lebron
James is the more impressive and intimidating presence on the court.

(01:29:27):
You know, Jordan was a slender six foot six. Lebron
James is a dominating, enormous six foot eight who is
arguably faster and potentially more agile in his prime. And
I think with those tools you can do more to
your opponent.

Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
I mean, you know, I agree with you, Rich and
real fast think about this too. Imagine if Jordan looked
like Lebron, same build, same style of basketball, and Lebron
looked like Jordan, just slender, the way he he moved
and everything. I think the goat conversation would be a
lot different. I think a lot of people would he

(01:30:07):
would gravitate towards the style.

Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Yep, I completely agree, Like there was a slickness to
Jordan's game that it sort of embodies that that that
that point you were making that it's more you're it's
easier to associate Jordan to scoring than it is Lebron,
because Lebron is like nothing we've ever seen before. He's
built like a power forward, but he can play like

(01:30:32):
a shooting guard and a point guard. It doesn't it
doesn't make any sense. You know, he he's built like
a force. You know, maybe maybe even even in a
in a pinch, he could be your stretch five if
you're you're short manned. But meanwhile, he can move like
like He's Iverson off the dribble like it's you know.
And don't get me wrong, he doesn't have I Iverson's

(01:30:53):
handles and and very few people on the planet will.
But it's he's got so many facets to his game
that are different from from the expectation based on how
he looks.

Speaker 6 (01:31:06):
And I do agree.

Speaker 4 (01:31:06):
Look, we we are all captives of our perspective, and
I think I think our view on what a basketball
player who does what Lebron James should look like is
very different than what Lebron James actually looks like. And
as a result, I think he is considered less dominant
than he actually is. And not by basketball players, by

(01:31:28):
the way, that's by the general public. When you talk
to basketball players, when you talk to you know, former
opponents or current opponents of Lebron James, they'll tell you
it's it's insanely difficult to deal with with that level
of athleticism at that size on a court. Now, the
game's also evolved too, because Jordan played in a time

(01:31:50):
where there were a bunch of uh, you know, goons
on the court thrown haymakers out, you know what I mean.
And he and his slickness and his you know, his
shock creation. You know, his ability to change in mid
air and go from right hand to left hand. How
many times do we see him do that, whether he
was driving the lane or under the basketball who you know,

(01:32:12):
driving the baseline. He was just so impressively elusive. He
was able to avoid all these big bodies on the
court who are allowed to savage you in a way
that you're just not allowed to do anymore because the
whistle it'll blow. And so Lebron James hasn't had to
exist during those times. And I think so that's held
against him also generationally, he didn't have to experience it

(01:32:36):
is that his fault. No, we hold it against Lebron James.
We for whatever reason, though we never held that against
Kobe Bryant.

Speaker 6 (01:32:43):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:32:44):
It's it's an interesting dynamic. And I do think it's
because of his body type and his physicality that he
doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Speaker 9 (01:32:53):
Yeah, sex cells right, and Lebron is a little bit
more of a bully than he is, like a provocateur
when it comes to his scoring, like he's not the
Steph Curry half court shot wiggle, you know, Like it's
just it's a different kind of scoring. It doesn't mean
it doesn't count. It still counts. The points are the points.
It's just you know, not as not as sexy. It's
a little more gritty. This is a very interesting time

(01:33:16):
for Lebron's career. He's I think the the Lakers situation
is going to obviously continue to uh to change. But
I'm I'm very fascinated with this Olympics. This is I
don't want to say it's legacy, but is this the
last Olympics Lebron's gonna compete it?

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Oh? Absolutely, you think so?

Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
Four years? Right?

Speaker 6 (01:33:35):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
Yeah, so this is it. This is this is the
your his last chance to uh to be on that stage.

Speaker 9 (01:33:42):
Right we uh we we consider the the the dream
team in the nineties to be kind of this like
pinnacle of basketball. And I'll be honest, I've watched Team
USA a few times. I watched the game against South Sudan,
I watched the game against Germany.

Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
If those those are the performances we're going to.

Speaker 9 (01:34:01):
Get, we need a little more, We need a little
more Team Usa. I want to see because if this
is Lebron's last Olympics, this is it, like.

Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
How will he be remembered?

Speaker 9 (01:34:14):
And losing to South Sudan almost I know it didn't count.
It was a friendly, but that was that's not a
good lasting image. So this is a very interesting Olympics.
I think the Team USA is light years ahead of
everyone else. They're like a five dollars favorite to win gold,
but they have not looked that way on the floor
so far.

Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
So hopefully he's got a little more of that bully ball.

Speaker 9 (01:34:35):
He got a couple of couple of old you know,
a couple of gallons of petrol left in the tank
there for Lebron because this is this is it ain't
gonna be easy. You know, the world is coming for
Team USA, and there's some talent out there.

Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
There is. We'll see how they handle it super fast.

Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
I just want to say something about Lebron and Jordan
where it's not a goat debate, you know, but I
think this is interesting where I think Jordan his his
power and physicality is often overlooked because of the way
his game looked Like Rich you talked about this that
era that he played in the Detroit Pistons were playing
football on hardwood, You know what I mean, Jordan, He's

(01:35:14):
not looked at as this physically imposing guy, this powerful guy,
but he was you had to be to survive that.
And Lebron on the flip side, I think his finesse
is overlooked oftentimes because of the way his game looks
and the way his body looks.

Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
I just looked it up.

Speaker 3 (01:35:32):
Lebron James three pointers made for his career. He's made
twenty four hundred and ten three pointers.

Speaker 6 (01:35:40):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:35:40):
In his career.

Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
He's shooting about thirty five percent from deep. And for
a guy who's not known as a three point shooter,
that's pretty good. That's really good to shoot nearly seven
thousand threes in his career and hit at a thirty
five percent clip, and he's not known as a three
point shooter at all. And I think that at his
power that's what you think of, and his finesse oftentimes

(01:36:05):
gets overlooked. But long story short, that guy, at almost
forty years old, he still has both. He still has
the finesse game, he still has the power game. And
I just wish the power game would be celebrated in
basketball for a non center the way we celebrate the
power game of athletes.

Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
And other sports. But I think he gets shortchanged when
it comes to that.

Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
Hey, we've got Rich Ornberger, Penn State All American, Jared
Smith FSR betting analyst.

Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
I'm Brian No coming up next. Wow, this was an.

Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
Interesting little testing of the waters in the offseason. We'll
give you some details. It is Fox Sports Saturday right
here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday

(01:37:29):
buying should be. Okay, So I found this story interesting
wanted to throw out your way. How about forty nine
Ers head coach Kyle Shanahan mentioning that he offered Bill
Belichick a job in the off season. He said, yeah,
I offered him a spot on my staff. You know,
he loves football so much. You never know, I didn't

(01:37:51):
want to insult him, but you know, he just loves
it so much that I threw it out and whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:37:57):
You wanted to do, we had a spot for him.

Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
And you know, read the fine brint that would be
most likely defensive coordinator. You know, I don't know if
Belichick was like, you know what, I've always wanted to
call offensive plays. You know, how about I do that?
But listen, I don't fault Kyle Shanahan for doing this.
Why not reach out to Belichick? Guy knows a few
things about defense, and if he agreed to it, that

(01:38:23):
absolutely would have strengthened the Niners staff. And also it
shows that, yeah, it's go time, man. This might be
the last real shot that you have to win a
Super Bowl at least the best shot before you have
to pay Brock Birdie and arm and a leg. So
to go all in with Belichick makes all the sense
in the world to me.

Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
I agree. This reminds me of like almost like a
bar scene where you know, maybe it's a group of
single guys and one of the guys has been a
little down on his luck lately, you know, you know,
just you know, maybe maybe got close to winning it
all with the last with with the last gal that he, uh,

(01:39:05):
he was dating, but they didn't quite make it all
the way there to the altar, and so you know,
he's just searching. He's on the prow and he's checking
around the scene, and all of a sudden, you know,
you see this girl from across the bar, and you go, hey,
I'm gonna go talk to her, and his buddies go no, no, no, man,
she's out of here league. It's like, well, you don't
know until yeah, so I'm just gonna go ask. You know,

(01:39:26):
what's the worst she could say? No? All right, fine,
but you know what if what if she says yes,
maybe we could go win a Super Bowl, like you know.
So that's that's what this was to me. This was
like Kyle Shanahan nervously sheepishly walking across the bar room
and being like, hey, I know this is ridiculous, but

(01:39:47):
you want to get coffee, And Bill Belichick just went, yeah, no,
I'm good. I'm more of like, I'm more of like
going to cheerleading competitions and bike riding type guy.

Speaker 6 (01:39:59):
But uh, okay, till later.

Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
You know, And that's what ended up being this offseason.
Bill Belichick has a twenty four year old girlfriend and
an analyst job with ESPN, and Kyle Shanahan shot a
shot so good on Bullfens.

Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
I guess yeah, yeah. I two things. One, I wish
I was a fly on the wall for that meeting.
I w oh love to hear the back and forth.

Speaker 9 (01:40:23):
Kyle's like, hey, Bill would love you to come on
and be our special assistant to the defensive whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Oh, and Bill's like, how about you get Ben. I
wish I wish I could have heard that conversation.

Speaker 9 (01:40:38):
You know, I'm sure it was much more civil than that. Secondly,
I'll maybe this is maybe it's not Brian, maybe a pushback.
I think that's the only way Bill has any success
at this stage of his career. I think at this
stage of Bill's career, I think the only way that
he has that super Bowl level success is if he

(01:41:01):
gets brought into a place that has a great offensive
minded head coach and they just need to button up
the defense, kind of like where Vic Fangio is kind
of settled.

Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
And I'm not comparing.

Speaker 9 (01:41:12):
Bill Belichick to Vic Fangio, So stop the Twitter trolls
right now. I'm saying, at this stage of his career,
I don't see Bill becoming a head coach and then
turning around a franchise. I don't see that happening. So
there's two options here. One he gets hired by a
team that is already established. But let's be honest, how

(01:41:35):
many of those jobs come open, like how many Chargers?
And that's why the Chargers job is very interesting for Belichick.
I think, how many of those Chargers jobs open up
where the quarterback's ready, the personnel's ready, we just need
the culture.

Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
It's very rare. It's very rare.

Speaker 9 (01:41:50):
Usually it's like the Panther situation where it's like we
need everything. If he's gonna come in and be successful,
I think it's gonna be in that situation where it's
a Kyle Shanahan where someone already established as an offensive
genius who needs the other side of the ball fixed.
And I'm not saying the Niners need to be fixed,
but they It was not great last year at the

(01:42:11):
end for San Francisco's defense. I think their offensive line
is gonna be worse this year. But we'll get to
that at some point. But I just I don't see
Bill coming in and being a messiah this stage.

Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
That's just how I see it.

Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
I will push back, but I'd like to start with positivity.
You know, Jared, You're an awesome guy. I love your
sports takes. I love your gambling in but I'm wrong.
I love your hair, you know, but I completely disagree
with this take of yours. Now here's the thing. This
is something that Kyle Shanahan said. So he made these
comments during the TK Show it's hosted by Tim Kawakami,

(01:42:44):
and within this answer that he gave about offering Belichick
a spot on his staff, he said, I can't believe
that he's not a head coach of a team right now.
I know what I would do if I was an owner.
That's what Kyle Shanahan said, And it's like Yeah, why
wouldn't the Cowboys say, let's offer Bill Belichick the keys

(01:43:06):
to the Mercedes over here? You know, are we gonna
keep Mike McCarthy. Are we gonna swing for the fences
and bring in the goat?

Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
Or the Eagles?

Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
Are we keeping Nick Sirianni? Where this team is treading downward?
We lost six of seven at the end. Are we're
gonna bring in the goat and really go for this thing?
You know, I'm surprised, not a head coach. But the
point is this, Jared, you look at that Patriots roster
last season and the last couple of.

Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
Seasons, and it left a ton to be desired.

Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
And I know, I know Belichick's fingerprints are all over that.

Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
But we've said Bill Belichick, the GM gets in the
way of Bill Belichick the head coach, nine thousand times,
and it's the truth. So if he took over a
franchise like the Cowboys with that roster, with the Eagles
and all that talent, compare that to the Patriots and
what they had this past season, night and freaking day.

Speaker 9 (01:44:00):
I agree, I agree, But here's the question. Jerry Jones
ain't giving up that control.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
He was given up. If he was smart, he would.
If he was smart, he would but yet to hand it.
But is he going to He's not, probably not.

Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
But that's the thing too, is think about what your
Jets are doing with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
You know, is We're probably not gonna work out in
the end. Let's be honest.

Speaker 6 (01:44:23):
Is it.

Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
The world's different than a team saying, Okay, Belichick's not
gonna be our coach of the future, but he's got
maybe two maybe three years.

Speaker 9 (01:44:32):
I'm not saying he's not going to become a head coach.
I'm saying I don't see him I no success. I
think it depends on who he takes over.

Speaker 3 (01:44:39):
Yeah, because if you're taking over an Eagles slash Cowboys
talented roster, I have no doubt that dude still has.

Speaker 2 (01:44:46):
The Eagles have an established culture.

Speaker 9 (01:44:47):
That's the point. Like the Cowboys have an established culture too. Yeah,
I listen.

Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
I I know they have an established culture, and I
know that it might be a cultural clash. But when
you have a coach like Bill Belichick walking into a program,
what he brings with him is years and years and
years of Super Bowl victories, and so you have the
attention of the room. I mean, he's not gonna coach

(01:45:15):
for very much longer. What is he aged seventy two
when he comes back at the start of next season,
or is he seventy one? I mean, you know, so
all you need is just to have the instant belief
of that roster immediately upon walking through the door, which
you will, and you need to have some early success.
And if he inherits an already talented roster, you would

(01:45:35):
assume him, being as talented as a coach as he
is with a talented quarterback, he's gonna have instant success.
And so I agree with Brian. I think that wherever
Belichick coaches next, he's gonna be careful. He's gonna be
careful who he coaches because he's gonna want to have
a team that's sort of already set to go win,

(01:45:59):
whether it be deep into the playoffs or potentially a
super Bowl, because I think he can win in that situation.

Speaker 6 (01:46:05):
I really do.

Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
Yeah, I just think of think of the chess pieces,
like think of the Cowboys and what Belichick could do
defensively with Micah Parsons and Trayvon Diggs.

Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
I'm with you, just stop right there.

Speaker 9 (01:46:20):
You know what, I mean like the x'es and o's
and what he would Oh my god, but is he
really going to accept like see, that's the part that
I struggle with. I know what he expects, we all
know what he expects. He wants control. He's a Bill
Parcell's guy. Parcels made this line famous if you want
me to cook the meal, I want to shop for
the ingredients.

Speaker 2 (01:46:41):
And I love that line. And that's his mentality.

Speaker 9 (01:46:44):
My point is that mentality is not very common anymore
in today's NFL. It's much more segmented, kind of like
the way the Giants do it. You saw Joe Shane
get the opinions of everyone else, scouts every everyone. I
don't know if that's the way Bill would run a franchise. Yeah,
And and that's where I struggle with adapting his style

(01:47:08):
to today's NFL. Yeah, I just don't know if it's
a good It's like a square peg in a round hole.
I'm not saying it's not going to happen. I just
don't think we're going to see the success that we're
all envisioning.

Speaker 2 (01:47:19):
I think what Rich and I are saying, how about
this Rich and know, Yeah, this is a tag team partners.
I'm on an island here, I'm on no island today.

Speaker 4 (01:47:28):
What's going on? You?

Speaker 6 (01:47:32):
I know?

Speaker 3 (01:47:33):
But I think that the parcels quote about shopping for
the groceries, right, I understand what you're saying, Jared, But
think about this.

Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
He can't do so much.

Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
Damage to the roster in a two or three year
span if they already have some good groceries in place.
You know what I'm saying, Like if he if he
takes over a team and they've got some playmakers, he
can do wonders with that talent, and he can't even
if he has full personnel control, he can't just wreck

(01:48:04):
that talent in two or three years. He doesn't have
enough time to wreck a talented roster by making bad
personnel decisions.

Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
I think, man, if you give.

Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
Him enough to work with talent wise on the roster,
I have no doubt he was doing things with a
sucky roster where you're like, wow, how do you pull
off that game plan or even that win?

Speaker 2 (01:48:26):
Their roster is freaking awful.

Speaker 9 (01:48:28):
It was, and the quarterback situation was worse last year,
and with Cam Newton, like all of like the post
Brady years are gonna want to be forgotten in New England.
What here's the only follow up I have. Okay, and
I won't even I won't even say win. Does he
ever get back to a Super Bowl? Does he ever
regain that stat Like, do you envision that close your eyes?

(01:48:50):
You think in the next five years of the NFL,
do you see Bill Belichick on the sidelines in a
big game.

Speaker 3 (01:48:56):
I can absolutely see him on the sidelines of a
big game. But to win a Super Ball with that
sort of a you know, window, it would be tough
to do. Taking it depends who he takes olver.

Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
That's the key. Yeah, that's Texas key. New information, new opinion.

Speaker 4 (01:49:11):
Right, Well, because again, like you look, how different and
look with Tom Brady there and with Tom without Tom Brady.
I've said this for a long time and it's as
true for Bill Belichick as it is for most great coaches.
You need a great quarterback typically to be a great coach.

Speaker 6 (01:49:25):
He was.

Speaker 4 (01:49:26):
He had the benefit of having Tom Brady for two
decades and that really benefited him, you know, because Tom
never wore out during that time period. How many great
coaches have a great quarterback but after ten years that
was their prime and now they don't look as great
as a coach. You know, it happens to everybody. He
just had the greatest football player of all time on

(01:49:47):
his roster, so it really benefited him, and he's searching
for a roster with another great quarterback.

Speaker 6 (01:49:52):
I can promise you that.

Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
He's gonna coach next year. I just don't know where.

Speaker 9 (01:49:55):
Oh yeah, I just don't know where, and I don't
know how successful it'll be. And I'm excited to revisit
this conversation when he does get that.

Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
Oh yeah, yeah, me too.

Speaker 3 (01:50:01):
All right, coming up next, I got a story for
you that's gonna make especially you rich. You know, a
dog that shows his fangs, you know, he's like, I've
got a.

Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
Story that I think will make you do that.

Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
First though, Dan Bayer will put a smile on your
face and make your fans go away.

Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
It's got the latest team, you know.

Speaker 11 (01:50:19):
I feel like hal Cogan coming in to save Macho man,
Randy say as Jared Smith is laying on the apron,
help me Dan, then I'll deliver the leg drop because
I'm with.

Speaker 5 (01:50:30):
Noan Ornberger on this. Yeah, yes, n w O right here,
that's what we got.

Speaker 14 (01:50:35):
Well fack, yeah, you know you guys reached the Giants
as well, and I know they don't have the quarterback
that you guys are just alluding to, But I think
that Bill Belichick loved his time with the Giants.

Speaker 5 (01:50:48):
He looks back on it like the glory days.

Speaker 11 (01:50:51):
And from what you guys talked about earlier in the show,
if things don't work out with Joe Shane and Brian
Dabole this season, maybe there's an opportunity for Belichick to
go back there. But hey, you guys have months to
talk about that. We're talking Olympics right now. France and
Brazil underway in men's basketball. Brazil off twenty one to
fifteen late in the first quarter of that one earlier.

Speaker 5 (01:51:10):
Today, Australia beats Speen ninety two eighty in group player well.

Speaker 11 (01:51:12):
Germany was a victory over Japan ninety seven to seventy seventeen.
USA doesn't play until tomorrow against Serbia. Anthony Davis has
been sick, but he practiced today. No practice for Joel Embiid,
who is also ill. Both are expected to play, according
to head coach Steve Kerr. Kittie Ladecki won her heat
in the four hundred meter today. In the relay, so

(01:51:34):
she should be there, excuse me in the four hundred
meter preliminary. She should be in the final later on
this afternoon, men's gymnastics not good for American gymnast Brody Malone.

Speaker 5 (01:51:43):
He did not qualify for the all around.

Speaker 11 (01:51:44):
Fred Richard and Paul Judah instead will represent the Americans
coming up on Wednesday. Katie Oladeki won her heats in
the four hundred meter. That's what I was trying to say.
No practice today for Texans running back Joe Mixon still
dealing with a soft tissue injury, while a report out
a NBC Cincinnati says Chase Brown's been getting these first
team reps in practice for the Bengals at running back.

Speaker 5 (01:52:05):
Try to replace the departure to.

Speaker 11 (01:52:07):
Mixing and guys In golf, kJ Joy continues to leave
the Open Championship and the Senior Tour nine under par.
For the Senior Open Championship, gam Smith and Andy Ogletree
have believed and.

Speaker 5 (01:52:18):
Lived golf events in the UK at nine under par.
Fellows back to you.

Speaker 2 (01:52:23):
Thank you, Dan, good hanging with you, Bud.

Speaker 9 (01:52:24):
You two guys street this morning, Not you Dan, Sorry,
I don't have the same feelings.

Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
Yeah, you can go home now.

Speaker 3 (01:52:33):
He Shortly after the show, our podcast will be going up.

after we get off the air. Okay, so we've got
some picks to make right around the corner. And how

(01:52:53):
about this the pre chorus, right before the chorus, like
go Jira, before the chorus comes in and just knocks
you in the face. We get the pre chorus, you know,
the little interlude, because there is a story that I
think will make up most of you, I think especially
rich Ronberger go. You know, we'll have that for you

(01:53:18):
right around the corner, a little double dip, a fang
worthy story, and then some picks on Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. It is Fox Sports Saturday,
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Shout out to the crew,
our trusted producer, Bo Benson, Technical producer extraordinary Chris Purfett
on the updates, Dan Buyer special treat this morning, very

(01:53:40):
nice up on game at the top of the hour,
LaVar Arrington, TJ. Hushman, Zada, Plaxico Burris. They have got
you covered. Just about ten minutes away. You'll hear them
right here. Okay, before we get to the picks, there
was a story that just caught my attention and I
didn't think it was a big deal, but then I

(01:54:02):
dug a little deeper, and now the fans are starting
to come out.

Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:54:08):
So there was a Kermit the Frog doll dressed up
in a Mahomes jersey at Raiders training camp, and there
was a Raiders player, Trey Taylor that there's a viral
video and he's joking around and it's what you would expect,
you know, like Patrick Mahomes sounds to some like Kermit

(01:54:30):
the Frog. He's got this interesting voice, right, And so
there's this viral video of this Raiders player making fun
of Mahomes and this doll, Kermit doll that's dressed up
in Mahomes jersey.

Speaker 2 (01:54:41):
This is what Mahomes had to say about it.

Speaker 1 (01:54:43):
Yeah, earlier in the year, kind of stuff like that happens.
He'll get handled when it gets handled.

Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
It'll get handled when it gets handled over it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
So I'm thinking all right.

Speaker 3 (01:54:53):
This is dumb. What are the Raiders doing? Mahomes has
owned them.

Speaker 2 (01:54:56):
He's ten and two.

Speaker 3 (01:54:57):
He's throwing thirty touchdowns in four picks against the Raiders alone.
But I've come to find out this is a Raiders
rookie safety. Oh boy, Trey Taylor. He's a seventh round
rookie out of Air Force. And the first thing we
know about this guy life in the NFL is him

(01:55:18):
making fun of Mahomes. It's a viral video and now
he's like it'll get handled when it gets handled, Like
if Max Crosby wants to do that, Okay, I get
a daisy fresh, seventh round rookie making fun of Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (01:55:34):
Rich, I throw it to you. What do you do
if you're a teammate of that guy?

Speaker 4 (01:55:38):
Well, listen, I've watched a lot of Air Force. I
know Trey Taylor. I've called many of his games. Good kid,
And to all the servicemen and women, no matter how
you start your military career, obviously we salute the troops here.
Having said that, boy, what a dummy, because this in Trey,

(01:56:00):
I watched you in college and there were no mahomes
is around the mountain West Na so even if he
does get a little playing time, which seventh round rookie
is hard to cut through outside of anything other than
an appointment on special teams. But if I'm Patrick Mahomes,
I'm picking on you. Bub This was an error not
only on the behalf of Trey Taylor, but this has

(01:56:22):
been going on for a little while at Raiders training camp.
They're letting this guy take this puppet. They're posting it
to social media. If I'm Antonio Pierce, I'm like, hey,
could we cut this out?

Speaker 6 (01:56:33):
Like what are we doing? What are we thinking about?

Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
You know? But this is a little bit of Hey,
you know, sometimes a rookie head coach wants to connect
with the locker room. He lets certain things goes. This
is gonna be a big learning experience for the Raiders
as a culture.

Speaker 6 (01:56:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:56:49):
What's the under on the Raiders team total for this
year for win?

Speaker 6 (01:56:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
Can I well?

Speaker 9 (01:56:54):
I mean the Gardner Minshew starting quarterback isn't gonna help.
October twenty seventh, everybody here in Las Vegas, Sonny to
full Las Vegas Halloween weekend. Maybe Mahomes should wear a
Trey Taylor jersey walking into the building that day to
try to like it set the total Halloween costume there
for Mahomes. I mean, listen, this is this story speaks
for itself. One guy's the goat. The other guy is

(01:57:15):
basically trying to hang out with goats at this point.

Speaker 2 (01:57:17):
Yeah, that's a that's a rough one, right there are
we got some picks to make. Let's dive into this.

Speaker 1 (01:57:25):
Rapid fire.

Speaker 2 (01:57:26):
Okay, Jared, we start with you. What are you thinking?
We are six and zero in our last six picks.

Speaker 9 (01:57:31):
No pressure, right, no, yes, yes, we the Collective, the
Royal we from the Big bouts Ki. All Right, I'm
going on Nerfy today because listen, that's that's what I do.
We'll go Twins Tigers. This one's expensive, but I think
it's worth it.

Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
Joe Ryan.

Speaker 9 (01:57:46):
Of course, we talked about school a little earlier in
the show Scooby Snacks.

Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
I love to reach school this year. We'd like Joe
Ryan this year.

Speaker 9 (01:57:52):
Riley Green also injured for Detroit, one of the best
haters at the top of the lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
So we'll go Tiger's Twins Nerfy. I like this show.
To Emona, I think he's a kid.

Speaker 9 (01:58:01):
Yeah, he's like only like a couple years younger than me,
even though he's a rookie, but he's had a great year.

Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Sixteen and two to the Nurfey.

Speaker 9 (01:58:07):
He gets Seth Lugo on the other side today for
the Royals, nineteen and two.

Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
To the Nurfy. We're going Cubs Royals Nurfy.

Speaker 9 (01:58:13):
And I kind of struggled with this final game, but
I will give you Braves Mets because I saw this
crazy trend. The Mets are like nineteen and two to
the Nurfy this month.

Speaker 2 (01:58:24):
It's like ridiculous, like they cannot score run.

Speaker 9 (01:58:26):
Sorry, nineteen and three the Mets Nurfy is nineteen and
three in July.

Speaker 2 (01:58:31):
That is absurd.

Speaker 9 (01:58:32):
And the Braves, of course missing a bunch of key
players at the top of the lineup. Albi's recently Acuna
we all know about. So we'll go Braves Mets Nurfy.
I like the pitching matchup here too. Schwellenbach's been fantastic
for Atlanta this year. Another rookie. So Braves Mets Nurfy,
Tigers Twins Nurfy, Cubs, Royals Nerfy on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
All right, Padres Orioles a lot of correlated picks here,
so we're gonna rattle them off pretty quickly over the
eight and a half runs. The Padres bats have hot
on this road trip. It was a pretty tight, offensively
driven game last night that the Padres were able to win.
So I'm also gonna take Padres on the money line.
They've been on a heater a lot to prove heading

(01:59:12):
into the trade deadline against good teams on the road.
This is the end of the line for them. They
want to finish strong before a J. Preller works his
magic on the on the trade wire. And then Michael King.
This was a tough one for me, but I'm gonna
take the under five and a half strikeouts. It's tough
to get sticks strikeouts anyways, he hovers around that line.

(01:59:32):
But I do think this is gonna be more of
an offensive battle in Baltimore, So I'm gonna take the
under five and a half straight strikeouts for King.

Speaker 3 (01:59:40):
Okay, all right, So I'm feeling a couple of unders here,
just like Nerfy vibes, not nurfy, but under for the
entire game.

Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
That's Okayfy could help me quick.

Speaker 3 (01:59:52):
I'm going Twins Tigers, and you mentioned Terrek Skoogle here, Jared,
He's on the bump for the tie. The opposing pitcher
Joe Ryan. Joe Ryan has one hundred and thirty strikeouts.
Scoople has one hundred and forty six strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
I think it's a low scoring game. It's at six
and a half at bet MGM. That's okay. I think
this has three to one written all over it. Give
me the under.

Speaker 3 (02:00:14):
I'm looking at Mariners White Sox. Give me under seven
and a half. The Mariners have the best team eer
and their twenty eighth in runs scored. They don't score
a lot of runs and they don't give up a
lot of runs. I'll take under seven and a half.
We talked about this earlier. I like Blake Snell. Give
me over one and a half earned runs. I think

(02:00:36):
he goes deep in the game. First game against the Rockies. Today,
I think he gives up at least two runs. So
I'm looking to go a Jared Smith like three and
oh right here, let's go okay.
