(00:28):
you doing, I'm fine, I'm super Thanks for asking. By
the way, did you watch the Hall of Fame football
game Thursday night? Hold that thought. I'm coming right back
to it in a big way. You know. Years ago,
the great Tim Russard, before he passed, had a talk
show one day at Whitey Ford on the legendary Yankee
(00:48):
Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra. And he asked, Tim Russard asked,
Whitey Ford, could you please tell me your favorite Yogi
bearra story? Whitey goes, So that's easy. One day, it's
back back in the like nineteen fifty nine. I'm pitching
in Chicago against the White Sox. First pitch of the game.
Luis Aparicio Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio drops a perfect
(01:09):
dragmunt for a single. Next hitter, Nelly Fox comes up,
doubles off the wall. Two pitches, two hitters, men on
second and third, nobody out. Al Smith steps up to
the plate. White, He says, he breaks off a curve ball,
hits Al Smith right in the knee. Three pitches, three hitters,
bases loaded, nobody out. Up comes the great Ted Klzuski
(01:34):
with the guns. First pitch four hundred and seventy feet
dead center over the wall, Grand slam. Four hitters, four pitches,
four nothing, nobody out. Casey Stangel comes out to the mound,
looks at whitey Ford looks at Yogi, looks back at
(01:54):
whitey Ford looks back at Yogi, says, Yogi, what the
hell's going on out here? Does? Why do you have
anything tonight? Jogi says, how the heck do I know?
I haven't caught a single pitch yet. Did you notice
the new rule last night, the kickoff rule? Yeah, the
critics are out in full force, and I get it.
(02:17):
Hit out, I get it. First night had all the
excitement of a Dan the Man Levitan concert. Look, can
we please pump the brakes for just a second, just
a second. I mean, first of all, the game was
played last night largely by good fellas that are all
going to be working at NAPA Auto Parts next month.
Nothing wrong with that, good Christian work, good Christian values.
(02:39):
Just saying most of those guys weren't even in NFL players.
There were eight kickoffs, though in three and a half
quarters seven were returned. Okay, we can work with this.
Yeah it looked weird, but did you know last year
in twenty twenty three, only twenty two percent of all
kickoffs were returned perc sent a kickoffs for touchbacks? Do
(03:02):
you want that? By the way, don't ever underestimate special teams.
They're an incredibly important part of football on every level,
including high school. You want to make your bones, you
want to oppress a coach doing on special teams. As
Terrell Davis, he was about to get cut by the
Denver Broncos in Japan. He calls an airline and says,
get me out of here. I didn't want to go
to the game to night, couldn't get a flight that night.
(03:22):
They put him in on special teams. He blew somebody up.
Next to the rest is history. Ryan Clark, same deal,
But we're not going to go down that road. I'll
tell you the road we are going to go down,
at least trying to understand what the hell the NFL
is trying to do, because it's not a bad thing.
It's a good thing. There were only four kickoffs the
entire season in twenty twenty three returned for touchdowns. You
(03:43):
want that excitement back. So the owners voted this last
spring to overhaul the kickoff review. They kickoff play. They
want to revive it. It had little to no action
last season. Like I said, seventy eight percent were touchbacks.
So the new rules got their first chance to be
used Thursday night between the Bears and Texans. First of all,
(04:06):
real quickly, and this is only a one year trial,
so we'll see if they keep it. I'm gonna bet
they are, because when this gets going and coordinators and
special teams coaches figure out how to make this thing work, yeah,
I think it could be something. But let's give it
a chance.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
You know.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
They also want to kind of limit the high speed collisions.
And remember the NFL was sued for a billion dollars
the concussion thing, right, you get it. You read about
it in all the papers. But here's the deal. Here's
how it's gonna look standard kicks. Well, they're still gonna
begin from the thirty five yard line, But did you
notice everything look weird because the ten kick coverage players
were lined up twenty five yards down the field on
(04:46):
the opposing team's forty uh huh. Now, the return team
will also have nine blockers lined up at what they
call the setup zone between the thirty and thirty five
yard line, but at least seven of those players have
to touch the thirty the thirty five yard line. Up
to two returners will be allowed inside the twenty, so
only the kicker and the two returners are allowed to
(05:08):
move until the ball hits the ground or is field
that are touched by a returner inside the twenty. Now,
any kick that reaches the end zone in the air,
you can return it, or the receiving team cannot for
a touchback, And now they get positioned on the thirty
yard line. Pretty good field position all right. By the way,
any kick that reaches the end zone goes out of
(05:31):
bounds or out of the end zone is also a touchback.
It goes to the thirty yard line. Now, why did
the NFL make this change? Let's face, the kickoff returns
have basically become obsolete. There have been a series of
real changes that have made them safer over the past
several seasons, but last season was a new Oh if
(05:53):
you want to be if you want to get granular.
Only twenty one point eight percent of all kicks were
returned last season because all too often teams would say,
let's forego the risk of a possible return, let's take
some field position and have a nice day. So to
give you some perspective, just the year before, thirty eight
(06:15):
percent of the kicks had been returned, But fifteen years
ago eighty percent of all kicks were returned in the NFL,
and the NFL estimates they believe they'll get that number
back above fifty percent this year. Again, the changes were
put in play because kickoffs were considered the most dangerous
plays all the high speed collisions they were. Probably most
(06:39):
of those plays contributed to more concussions than anything else.
So the hope is the new rule will increase the
number of returns, but with not as much danger. The
reason everybody was nonplussed about what happened last night is
because special teams coaches they haven't begun to start to
figure this out. Yet you got coverage players that can't
(06:59):
move until the ball hits the ground or returner in
the landing zone. Hang time is really no longer a
key factor in kicks. As a matter of fact, I
gotta tell you, I gotta tell you. We've all seen
the potential flaw with everybody lined up in a nice
row like you're playing duck duck goose or something. If
you bust that gap and you're you find an opening,
(07:20):
you might be off to the races. I'm gonna throw
a curveball here. How's that for making a metaphor Hell,
instead of having your kicker do kickoffs, why not just
have a defensive back kickoff. Some of those guys probably
kicked in high school. They did everything kick punt, you know, offense, defense, return, team,
(07:41):
punt team, kickoff, team kickoff or did it never came
off the field that way. If you have a situation
where a speedy returner breaks that wall instead of a
kicker back there looking kind of silly like garrya Premian
google it, knuckleheads, Uh, you got a chance, So look
for the returns. It's gonna look a little bit more
(08:02):
like a traditional running player. Than the old kickoff return.
So I think you might even see more running backs
as returners. Why you capitalize it on their ability to
find a hole and with their vision and so you know,
by the way, the new rules also eliminate the possibility
of surprise on side kicks like the one that Drew
(08:23):
Brees and New Orleans stole back in Super Bowl forty four.
So is it perfect?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
No?
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Was it exciting Thursday night? Far from it. But I
say we gave it a chance. I say we gave
it a chance. I think as the season goes on,
you might wear them up to it. And I think
again you'll see more kick returns. And again, most of
those guys playing last night are going to be on
the roster in a month. So give, give the special teams, coordinators,
give the teams, give people a chance to study this.
(08:52):
But we don't want to kick off going away ever,
all right, And I know the NFL doesn't want to
get sued for a billion dollars again, so they're trying
to find the best of both worlds. So that is
my biggest takeaway from Thursday Night in the Hall of
Fame game. By the way, congrats, easy for me to
say try that again in English. Last time I run
a tongue from that place. Congrats to Liz l from

Speaker 7 (11:59):
My pleasure. I mean, it's football season. You can't sleep.
We got to start getting our body clocks ready to
go so we can rent up and do these long
days and get ready for twenty four to seven football.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
And I'm pretty sure you haven't slept since September of
twenty seventeen, the month before the Golden Knights took Yes,
that's a story for a different day, Kevin. I want
to just start with this ever so quickly, tongue in cheek,
do you suppose the Raiders at Allegiance Stadium this year
might sell Kermit the Frog with Kansas City Chief logans.
(12:31):
Your thoughts on that whole little ordeal that it took
root they were throwing some shaded Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 7 (12:38):
You know that, as usual with social media, got maybe
taken out of context and got a little out of hand.
It was it was a fan that was there that
handed it to the rookie player who didn't know exactly
what to do with it. So, you know, a lot
of it in portrayed in the media said that the
Raiders had it there on site and was passed when
(13:00):
they were passing it around. That's that's not true. But
you know, if it adds a little bit more juice
to the rivalry, that's fine. I mean, you know, the
Chiefs or you know, the champs, and so the Raiders
have got to knock them off if they're going to
take the next step in winning the division. And you know,
I just kind of saw that as a side story
(13:21):
more than anything else that kind of got.
Speaker 8 (13:23):
Out of control.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Sure, sure, so though, you know, for the people that
were upset about that with the Chiefs, then they weren't
upset when they did the ring around the rosie inside
the Allegiance states that's right, that's fair.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
You can't have it bull play.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
That's fair hashtag facts, and let's if I'm being also fair.
I got to tell you the Raiders went into Giha
Stadium or whatever the heck they called these days on
Christmas Day and they pushed the Chiefs around. That defense
was for real that day. So this is shaping up
to be go ahead, you want to say, Tim, I.
Speaker 7 (14:01):
Know the Chiefs kind of said that that was kind
of the thing that kind of got Abound track to
go win the Super Bowl?
Speaker 9 (14:07):
Was that?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (14:08):
That did because the Raiders did push them around. But
I think it's going to add a little more juice
to it to what we're going to see this year.
And another quote unquote holiday type game, because the Raiders
are in Kansas City for the Black Friday Game this year.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
They are talking with Kevin Bolander, Fox five sports director
here in Las Vegas on the TV side. Kevin so
shaping up to be interesting ANFC West. I don't want
to go into the Chargers situation or the Broncos situation,
but Antonio A. Pears took over last year and there
was a decided bounce in the Raiders step, particularly on
(14:42):
the defense. Do you believe that carries over this year?
Speaker 7 (14:46):
I think it does, especially with the defensive side of
the ball. I mean, this is Patrick Graham's third year
leaving this defense, and the back half of the year,
obviously they were one of the better defenses in the NFL,
and and if anything, they got a little bit better
adding Christian Wilkins on the line. So I think defensively
(15:07):
is not where the Raiders have issues. But I also
think that when you talked about a little more bounce
and energy when Antonio Peirce was named the interim head coach,
the whole vibe of the team was a complete one
to eighty over what it was with Josh McDaniels. And
we're seeing that carry over into training camp this year.
This is an energized group of players that have a
(15:29):
little bojo and swagger. Now can that carry itself through
seventeen games Steason with the ups and downs of the
roller coaster that inevitably is going to happen. That remains
to be seen. But certainly the team's having a little
bit of fun out here, just like they were at
the end of last season.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
You know, that's a good point. Interestingly enough, depending on
folks and their viewpoints, the betting markets here in Las Vegas.
The sportsbooks have listed the Raiders win total over under
at six and a half. I got to believe a
lot of people have taken umbrage with that. That means
they're expected to be an under five hundred team. Again,
does that kind of information circulate amongst the Raiders at all?
Speaker 7 (16:14):
You know, they pay attention to everything. You know. They
may say they don't, but they know the numbers. They
actually some of the players have talked about the fact
that they were, you know, picked to have seven or
eight wins by certain publications. They didn't exactly say the
sports books, if you will. They were talking more on
some of the national publications, and they were outspoken about
(16:37):
their dislike for that, and Antonio Pearce said that he
was fine with his players being outspoken about that as well.
But they also said after that they weren't happy that
the only way they're going to change the narrative is
to go out there and win. So they do realize
that you have to earn it on the field, and
this team quite honestly has it done. So They've only
(16:58):
been of the playoffs a couple of times I'm here
in the last two decades, so they've got to win
and win consistently if they want to change that narrative
and the six and a half win total. I mean,
right now, they still don't know who their starting quarterback
is going to be. So until they kind of get
a feel for where this team is headed offensively, I
(17:19):
think that you know they're going to have to just
live with that and then again go out on the
field and prove them wrong if if they think that
that number is not right.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
That's an excellent segue because you've got a nice little
quarterback competition in camp. I understand both Gardner Minshew and
Aidan O'Connell are splitting raps about fifty to fifty. But
Gardner might have taken a slight lead. And I heard
he hit Brock Bollowers and stride the other day across
the middle of the stud tight end out of Georgia.
That got some people excited. Your thoughts, Well, here's.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
The thing that's happened so far in this training camp.
Gardner Minshew will have a good day, which she did
on Wednesday. The team didn't practice on Thursday. Aidan O'Connell
have the better day today. They kind of seem to
be alternating and nobody is stacking day, So nobody's separating
themselves in the competition, and that's something that certainly Antonio
(18:10):
Pierce would like to see happened with somebody that can
do that. And they're really two different types of quarterbacks.
They know Cowns a little more of a traditional pocket
type guy Gardner Minshew's somebody who maybe is a little
more comfortable when he has to leave the pocket and
uses legs. So it'll be interesting to see as they
play out. For fans who like to see potential starters
(18:34):
play preseason football, we don't see that a lot in
the NFL anymore. You're going to see that with the
Raiders this year because not only are they going to
have to play both quarterbacks to get a feel for
who's going to be QB one, but they're going to
make sure that they play starters around them for two reasons. One,
they want to get them comfortable with who are their
starters are going to be on the field, and b
(18:54):
they want to protect their starting quarterback. They're not going
to throw a third string offensive line out there, you know,
with going up against guys that are trying to make
a team maybe in a roster and think it'd be
a little more gung ho. So the Raiders plan on
playing their starters a little bit in the preseason, and
that's something that they have not done a lot of
(19:15):
in the last ten years.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
You know, I am wondering if at the end of
the day, Antonio Pierce ops for the veteran because if
you look at the first nine weeks of the schedule, Kevin,
it's a little daunting. You open up at the Chargers
a divisional game right out of the slate, and then
you go to Baltimore. But in those first nine weeks,
you've got to travel to Cincinnati, the Rams, You've got
(19:41):
Pittsburgh and the Chiefs at home. It feels like a
veteran would be more able to navigate that because he's
been there before. But regarding that schedule, is it something
you've taken a look at and noticed how daunting those
first nine weeks are?
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Yeah, I mean I think that you know, when you
play in the ANFC West and you're going to see
the Chiefs two times a year, that's always gonna kind
of be your cornerstone, right and then uh, but they
have they do have a tough schedule and there's some
gaps and there's every team has a tough schedule and
there's gonna be some gaps that maybe some easier spots
(20:21):
where he could try and strings screen together some wins
and some some spots where they're going to have to
get things done. As to who they go with with
the quarterback, it'll be interesting to see because they do
open in LA against the Chargers and Jim Harbaugh's first
game with the Chargers, but Aidan O'Connell's first ever NFL
start was at SOFI Stadium against the Chargers. You've kind
(20:41):
of thrown into the fire. I believe it was Week
four last year. Khalil Mack had six sacks in that game,
uh and Abe O'Connell said that he learned a lot
in terms of holding on to the ball uh too
long and things like that. That heat had benefited him
when he got back into the starting role later in
the season. So well, it'll be a storyline either way.
(21:02):
It's either going to be redemption for Aidan O'Connell against
the Chargers at SOFI or we're going to see Gardner
Minshew uh get to start with his fourth NFL seeing
the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Last question for me, Kevin, You're right around the corner
from Chargers camp there as well. I'm not overreacting to
the foot situation that that you know, Harball is going
to be dealing with with this quarterback. Do you expect
him to start Week one? To the best of your knowledge, I.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
Would anticipate that he'll be ready to roll. You know,
I don't know how serious an injury is, obviously, I
don't think anybody does. What's your inside that room. But
the way that the the injury happened at, you know,
end of July, first part of August. Here, the way
they do the schedule where there's a long gap before
that first regular season game from the last preseason game.
(21:59):
If the doctors that I've been reading that everybody else
has to stay in the four to six weeks, that
should put him in line to do it. But at
the same time, the Chargers also want to make sure
that this is an issue that doesn't linger. They want
to make sure that they haven't for the long haul,
and I don't think that they're going to want to
rush them back as well. So it's going to be
an interesting thing leading up into Week one. It's happened
(22:22):
with the Raiders Chargers game before whether they didn't know
who they were going to get me, they would end
up you know, they ended up getting stick in the past.
So it's going to be the big storyline as we
go into week one.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Great stuff, Ken, Yeah'm in agreement. I would be very
surprised if Justin Herbert isn't under center week one. But
it's a long season and the plan of fasciatus is
a is a weight buring injury. So Kevin appreciates you
as always. Man. We'll catch up down the road, and
thanks for all your help. You're the best. Purry, thank you,
Thank you, sir. That is Kevin Bowling, your Fox five
(22:56):
sports director here in Las Vegas. Covers all the major sports.
Been ton a longtime, really good dude. We hung out
a lot together un b basketball games, and now the
city's grown so much. He's grown way beyond that. All right.
So the Olympics are having baffo ratings, and obviously there's
a lot of excitement, but there's also noteworthy stories, and
(23:19):
one particular one took place in boxing earlier this week,
and this is something you simply can't ignore. We'll get
to that in just a second, but first let's go
to our guy Kevin Figures.
Speaker 10 (23:30):
With the latest all Right, Bernie and Friday Night in
Major League Baseball, Blake Snell of the Giants threw a
no hitter in a three to nothing victory over the
Reds in Cincinnati. The reigning Cy Young Winner struck out
eleven and walk three batters. It was the first complete
game of his career. Elsewhere, Seattle hit four home runs,
including a grand slam from a New Marin or Justin Turner,
as they steamrolled Philadelphia ten to two, five straight losses
(23:53):
there for the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
The Dodgers have lost five of their last six.
Speaker 10 (23:57):
Their late comeback attempt failed in Oakland, six to five
was the final there in favor of the A's Pete Alonzo,
a home run for the Mets. They defeated the Angels
five to one. It was the Blue Jays eight in
the Yankees five. Minnesota handed the White Sox their eighteenth
consecutive loss. The Royals won their fifth in a row
with a victory over the Tigers, who have lost five
straight wins. For Cleveland, Arizona and the Cubs in Paris
(24:19):
at the Olympics, coming up at the top of the hour,
you have the third round of men's golf American Xander
Shawfley currently in a three way tie for first with
Tommy Fleetwood of England and Dadeki Matsuyama of Japan.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Back to Bernie Friedam.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Will you be covering any of the obscure Olympic sports tonight,
Kevin like you did last week. I really enjoyed that.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Well, you know it's very possible.
Speaker 10 (24:39):
You know, we have dressage from the Equestria coming up
here in about an hour and a half or so,
so I mean that really gets me going, Bernie, so
you never know.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah, I've gotten my hope soth that you'll give us
an update on the Australian rules femal full contact duc
dot goose, that Willie Logart is looking to get a
gold medal and I'm really rooting for him.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, as am I, as am I. We'll have to
see what happened there.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I know you're an intrepid reporter, so you'll have the
latest on all that good stuff. Kevin, bud Ah, you
can't have missed this. An Olympic boxer quit forty seconds
into a fight two days ago. It wasn't the broken nose,
it was a mid gender controversy. The lady's name was
(25:23):
Angela Karini. She was an Italian boxer. She stepped into
the ring at the Summer Olympics on Thursday against an
opponent who actually had been banned from another international competition
due to gender eligibility issues, and Karini said no moss,
no mops forty six seconds into the fight. Now, look,
(25:43):
we're in the toy department here in the shopping mall
of Life and sports are the toy department. So we're
staying in the toy department. That is why we're not
going to delve into Look, the first sex change operation
happened back in nineteen oh seven. Okay, so this is
nothing new. In nineteen seventy six, a doctor her by
the name of Richard Raskin had a sex change to
(26:04):
Renee Richards, who became a world ranked tennis player. So
we're gonna we're not gonna dive into that. But later on,
in about twenty six minutes, when we dive into the
midnight hour, when you heard that a male who was
born a male transitioned into a female was allowed to
fight against a female in the Olympics, I want your
(26:25):
thoughts on that, So start warming up your vocal cords
because that will be our one of our two topics
tonight during the midnight hour. So this is a young lady,
Angela Coreni trains for years, gets in her first fight
of the Paris Olympics against a fighter from Algeria named
Amain Kellef. She took multiple shots of the face early
(26:47):
in the first round, then with you know, Withdrew she
raised her hand forty six seconds in apparently had a
broken nose. She refused to handshake from her opponent and
was she's seen crying later. Interestingly enough, Khaliff was her opponent.
Khalif was disqualified hours before her gold medal at the
(27:09):
twenty twenty three World Championships in New Delhi after she
failed a gender eligibility test. Now the International Boxing Association
the IBA, their rules prevent athletes from x Y chromosomes
from competing in women's events. The IBA issued a statement
Wednesday saying the results of the test Khalif was subjected
to are confidential but conclusively indicated that Khalif did not
(27:33):
meet the required necessary eligibility criteria was found to have
competitive advantages over other female competitors. End Quotal after the fight. Karini,
the female fighter from Italy, could be yelling. It could
be heard yelling this is unjust as she withdrew from
the fight, and she later told reporters in attal and
she's never taken a punch like that. But stop short
(27:56):
of saying Khalif should not have been allowed to compete.
I think she since upon apologized for not shaking hands.
Just to be clear and be complete here, she said,
quote quote I got into the ring to fight, but
I didn't feel like it anymore. After the first minute,
I started to feel a strong pain in my nose.
I didn't give up, but a punch her too much,
so I said enough, I'm leaving with my head held
(28:17):
I now. Interestingly enough, Italian officials questioned Calice's eligibility before
Thursday's bout, and they actually encouraged Karini not to go
through with a fight, and apparently many of her fans
in Italy tried to tell her, don't go. It's a man,
it's dangerous for you. But she got into the ring
and to see what happened. Now. This year's boxing competition
(28:39):
is governed by the IOC's Paris Boxing unit, which has
many more relaxed rules than ever governing bodies. There's also
a second boxer from Chinese tape named Lynn Yu Ting,
also competing at the Olympics after being qualified for the
World Championships last year for the same reason as Khalif.
That box one also, So there are two incidents. So
(29:03):
when you hear of this, what is your kneejerk reaction?
Should men be competing against women? But gladiator sports? Gladiator sports,
This one really doesn't sit right with me. But I
want to hear from you, and we'll do that at
the top of the hour. So this is now, you know,
(29:25):
spilled over into international competition, and it's now spilled over
into what you would call a true gladiator sport. So
a little different dynamic here. We want to chop that
up in the midnight hour when we start taking your
calls at midnight. Of course, in twenty three minutes from
(29:47):
where I sit here in Las Vegas, it will be
twelve midnight literally, but where you sit it may be
twelve midnight literally as well, or anywhere around the world
where we get calls, it's certainly twelve midnight figuratively hour.
You've got the last word speaking the last word. I
want to talk about the New York Jets and Aaron
(30:07):
Rodgers and Garrett Wilson and many other things as well.
In retrospect, I wonder if Rogers wishes he might not
have gone to Egypt in missed mini camp. And I
don't say that tongue in cheek. I mean it seriously.
I'm seeing chinks in the armor here with the Jets.
We're gonna get to that in just a minute. It's
(30:28):
not just between Rogers and Garrett Wilson and some of
the other players. Robert sala is also part of this
as well. Are we headed towards a disaster or a
Super Bowl? What's more likely? I'm Bernie Fradder. We are
coming to live from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
tirect dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Fradder Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
(30:54):
back at the Bernie Fradle Show, Fox Sports Radio. We
are coming to you live from the Tarack dot Com
studios here in Las Vegas. Coming up in fifteen minutes
the midnight hour. Your calls eight seven, seven, nine to
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine to nine, six
six three six nine. Bri will be taking your calls
(31:17):
your thoughts on the fight in which Italian female boxer
Angela Karini lost, want to get your thoughts when you
observe this. That's it, all right. The New York Jets
are going to continue to be I think, a very
(31:39):
in many ways polarizing story this year. The opposite of
love is not hate. If you hate, you have the
same emotion invested. When you love, you have to care.
So there are people that are rooting for the Jets
to fail, people that are rooting for the Jets to win.
It feels like there's just an incredible amount of pressure
on the Jets and Robert Sala and the entire organization,
(32:01):
especially on the heels of what happened last year after
four plays. And it didn't help, honestly, it It didn't
help that Rogers missed Mini Camp. I thought about this thing.
You know, he had everything planned to go to Egypt
before he knew the dates of Mini Camp. Then he
got the dates of Mini Camp and he kind of
(32:22):
got it clear. But this whole thing is not going over.
It's going over like a fart in church. It's just
not going well. Because you wonder now Mike Aaron Rodgers
as the face of the franchise now and the team
leader been better off to move his Egypt to it
back a month and spend mini camp working out some
fine details with his receivers. I covered the lines for
(32:45):
ten years pre and pulse and a phish capacity. Mini
camps important, there's the reason they have it. And interestingly enough,
just the other day, the Jets had their first practice
and pads and according to reporters, it went very poorly
on my at least in the eyes of Aaron Rodgers,
and he was not afraid to let his teammates know it.
According to reports, Rogers was quote visibly upset through much
(33:09):
of the practice, according to Rich Saminia of ESPN, and
he lashed out at his teammates on several occasions. Now,
much of Aaron Rodgers' frustration seemingly stemmed from the many,
many miscues from the offensive line, including a number of
sacks poor snaps from their center Joe Tipman. Centers maybe
(33:30):
the most difficult position to learn in the National Football League.
You're not just snapping the ball. You're eating defenses and
looking at personnel groupings. There's a lot, there's more than
you realize, and this is second year so Rogers is
working with a guy who was probably kindergarten when Rogers
was making his debut in the league. Reports also indicated
(33:51):
that Aaron Rodgers was livid when one of his offensive
linemens stepped on his foot, which sent Rogers to the ground.
Can you imagine, all right, these things actually do happen.
He didn't mean to do it. Look, Alan Wizard, who
has history with Aaron Rodgers, stuck off for him a
(34:11):
little bit. He said, honestly, quote, he expects the same
standard that he holds himself to out of everyone else.
You mean, like not showing up a mini camp. Okay,
couldn't resist that. Honestly, he expects the same standard that
he holds himself to out of everyone else. And today
he just didn't resemble that at all. The team didn't
resemble that at all. We think as an offense, we were
(34:31):
just a bit too sloppy. This is Alan Blizzard to
wide receiver who's got history with Aaron Rodgers. Now people
say this is not a cost for a panic, but
some people are panicking, especially this early in camp. This
is a red flag. Rogers his legacy secure. I believe
(34:52):
he's won a Super Bowl he's a prolific passer, He's
a brilliant talent. No one can argue that, but they're
there's always something around Aaron Rodgers that is not savory,
just isn't. I mean, we didn't have any of the
you know, spending the room, you know, the dark room,
or any of this goofy stuff that he talks about
(35:14):
things being a beautiful mystery, and he didn't have a
lot of that. But what you are having after four
snaps and basically zero success or experience with the New
York Jets, who are a pretty good team, that's a
defense that's very much for real, and they have enough
junk in their trunk to get to the playoffs and
make some noise in the playoffs. Last year they won
(35:36):
seven games with very moribund quarterback play. So you can
say this isn't necessarily a cost for panic. But the
problem is when you set the tone this early for
these kind of diet tribes, it leaves a bad taste
in some people's mouth and you are basically getting a
See Aaron Rodgers could get away with this in green Bay,
(35:59):
he had tenure. He made his bones in Green Bay.
Followed Brett Favre and when in three years won a
Super Bowl, so that's the only time he won it.
But the look, they were a fixed ure in the playoffs,
and Robert Rogers has thrown for a million yards, so
you get it. Okay, no one's questioning his ability. But
(36:20):
now the Jets are getting a taste from the real
Aaron Rodgers, considering the fact that because his season was
derailed by injury just a few snaps last year, they
haven't had a chance to develop the kind of success
and build a foundation of good vibes because they didn't
win and Rogers didn't play. And it's pretty evident from
(36:43):
people that are there that Rogers is imminently aware of
what happened last year and how his season was cut short.
He does not want that to happen again. And that
means Rogers, perhaps more than any other quarterback in the
NFL this year, is really going to need solid play
from his offensive line. Now, there are some other critics
(37:06):
out there and their point, their their you know, opinion
must be hurt. They point out that Jets might not
be so discombobulated if Aaron Rodgers had been present for
many camp Now pumped the brakes just like I said
about the kickoff rule. It's very early in camp, and
like every team, the Jets, well they got they got
(37:28):
to iron. They need to iron some things out, which
is a nice way of putting it. They need to
iron a lot of things out. They open up at
San Francisco. Then you had the situation of Robert Sala
briefly mentioned that Rogers might be taking some snaps in
the preseason. And Rogers does appear healthy, you know, he
remember he's coming off of torn achilles tendon a little
(37:52):
well less than a year ago, and I think it
was probably presumed he wouldn't play in any of the
preseason games. But Robert Sala said, well, quote my instinct,
there's nobody I want to leave it open. And then
what does Rogers say, Well, that's news to me. But
then they all kind of backpack and says, well, you know,
if he wants me to play, you know, I'll be
ready to go. Man, I'll be all fired up. I'll pomp.
Speaker 8 (38:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Right, Okay. Salad did say he definitely won't play in
the first two games, but they're having a discussion on
the third game. They haven't made up their decision yet.
I almost think you have to you have to do something.
You got to get back on the horse. Even though
exhibition games right are just that. But do you really
want to go into the season well having taken a
(38:33):
single snap with some live bullets coming at you. I
think I think that could be an issue. I really
do so. The second part of the Midnight Hour, which
we'll be taking your calls here in seven minutes eight seven,
seven nine nine, six six three sixty nine, is is
real simple. The bottom line is this. The Jets are
(38:55):
going to be a story this year. If they win,
it's going to be a story. If they lose, it's
going to be a story how it happens. That's what
we're all waiting to see. And believe me, we are
waiting the Jets open up on Monday Night Football this year.
It should be massively you know, I would say, watched
the tension, just the first three or four snaps, watching
(39:17):
Aaron Rodgers, and then they're gonna have to win. They're
gonna have to navigate that division. Miami is gonna be better,
Buffalo isn't going anywhere. A lot of pressure is on
the Jets, and a lot of pressure is on Robert Solid.
He's already listed as being one of the coaches on
the hot seat. And we haven't even started the preseason yet.
So those are our two subjects. Olympic boxing, Angela Karini
(39:41):
from Italy loses want to get your thoughts. I've already
had a couple interesting tweets which I will read. And
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Are you rooting for them
or against him? Or do you think they're gonna have
success or not have success? Keep it locked? You listening
to the Bernie Frattle Show Fox Sports Radio. It is
the midnight hour coming up?
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Were listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Yep, that's right, you heard the band. Bernie Fraddle Show
keeps rolling right along. My name is Bernie Fraddle. We
are coming to the line from the Tarac dot com
studios here in Las Vegas. Tire Act dot Com. We'll
help you get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping
for your road Azer protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Well,
(40:24):
you know what time it is. We have two subjects
tonight the phone. The phone lines are already lighting up,
so let's get to it. It is, in fact the
midnight hour.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
Right now, the midnight hour.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
So we had a report in the from the Olympics
that a boxer that we believed would transition from male
to female. As a matter of fact, if that wasn't
the case, why did the IBA disquality this individual back
in March twenty twenty three. However, we have to be
(41:04):
respectful to all input, and I want to read a
couple tweets before I get to these calls long in
the short of it is is that you know, everybody,
this is gonna be a highly charged situation as his
most midnight hours. Okay, one Steve misplaced San Diego Stanford
Warriors fans, and no man should ever be allowed to
(41:26):
go against a woman. By the way, the New York
Jets will be done by week six. It's just crazy
the tweets that are coming. In a civilized society, if
a man beat type of women, they're arrested for assault
and batter. However, this is condoned by the Olympics. Moss
tweets in that that tweet was from Homer in nineteen
sixty seven. Moss tweets in a mean Khalif was assigned
(41:48):
a female at birth the gender test you failed. Weeks
of corruption. Okay, maybe I can learn something here. Fred Nebraska.
I don't see any biological women trying to compete in
the men's boxing division. To you, chromosomes decide what sex
you are, and of stories say as you can see. Uh,
you know this is not this is a this is
(42:09):
gonna be an interesting one tonight. Raging romanticist, one of
my good listeners says, you're about to put your foot
in your mouth regarding the Koreey fight. Do some research. Well,
I've done a lot of research, but maybe there's some more.
All right, So let's get to the callers. Phil in
Massachusetts start us off tonight. My man, you know what
to do? He hear it. I can hear your pil
Yes we can.
Speaker 11 (42:29):
You're on the air, O sons.
Speaker 12 (42:31):
Good, all right, I'll live in Massachusetts, the most liberal
in the un I don't really agree with men who
have transitioned competing women's sports.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Hey, Phil, Phil can want you to do me a Phil,
do me a favor. You're gonna go right up next.
But we're having a phone issue. Uh and it sounds like,
you know, an old record from the Three Stooges is
skipping a beat. I want to hear what you gotta say.
We just need at her phone connection. My man. Okay,
so call right back and Bi'll take your call. Bri'll
(43:05):
let me know when you're back. Jim also from Massachusetts,
So looking forward to what you got to say tonight.
Speaker 8 (43:10):
Hey, Bernie, It's amazing to me that when all this
controversy hit France, France goes well it said female on
her passport. With all the drug testing and all X
like chromosomes and stuff and everything, that was their best defense.
Well on the passport it said she was a female.
This is a severe black guy's going to taint this Olympics.
(43:31):
And you know, it's just a start, but I think
this is a tip of the iceberg and all of
this stuff is going to crash. Now. Remember Biden and
Harris just signed the title nine thing saying that men
can compete in women's sports and if you complain, you
can get charged with a crime. So you know that's
(43:52):
how far this is going. So I think it's going
to get real back in the next day, next year
or so.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
I mean, what are your thoughts on well, what are
your thoughts Jim on the Jets and Aaron Rodgers And
there's already right out of the gate, there's already a
little trouble in Paradise. People should not act like there's
not This is not a good look. Are you rooting
for the Jets and what are your thoughts? Are they
going to do well this year or not? Are you
rooting for them or not?
Speaker 8 (44:16):
I think I think they're going to do well. The
thing is, like you said before, like Chuck Daly used
to say that they're they're managing an adult day kiss
and that's thing in the NFL, same thing in the NFL.
But I do believe he should get some time in
preseason because it's all about timing. I mean, that's when
you get hurt if you're not up to speed with
the timing.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
I think the Jets are got to.
Speaker 8 (44:38):
Do good enough to get into the playoffs, and then
when they get into the playoffs, it's just like Al
maguire used to stay about the NCAA terms, not about winning,
it's about surviving and see what happens. But I think
they're going to do well.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yeah, I'm in agreement, Jim. I thank you, appreciate your
calls as always, and I wanted the main thing I
want to see is Aaron Rodgers deplete the season, even
if he starts fifteen out of seventeen games with that defense.
This is gonna be a great story. Bree, do by
any chance to have fell back that he call back
in phill for Massachusetts. Okay, thanks, bre Let's go to
(45:12):
Mike in Modesto. Mike, you're up next.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
Welcome in well, Bernie.
Speaker 13 (45:16):
I feel that it's very simple that it's not fair
to women who have trained their whole life, even women
as far as high school level and above, they should
not have to compete against men. This is the ultimate
attack on women. And if women have to shut up
(45:39):
before a social reason, feminist should be ashamed of themselves
because if you keep this up, you will destroy women's sports.
Men will hold all your records and you are the
blame for it. Just to be direct, Fantasy Island inns
in the competitive arena were born with x Y chromosomes.
Speaker 14 (46:04):
You should not be able to compete in women sports.
It's unfair Aaron Rodgers. If he's not done, they have
the kind of defense it could work. The question is
if he done at the age he is. Sometimes quarterbacks
just fall off. So if he can play well and
be like Aaron Rodgers, they have a chance. My guess
(46:26):
is like the guy said, week six, start done. That's
what I think.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Interesting. Okay, the interesting stuff, Mike. Appreciate your call as always,
Thank you so much. We did get Phil from Massachusetts
back Phil fingers crossed that your phone line is a
little better. So let's start over. Phil.
Speaker 12 (46:42):
Hey, I think a spire. Can you hear me?
Speaker 2 (46:44):
Yeah? This is good? Better go ahead?
Speaker 12 (46:47):
All right? So as far as the boxer goes, look,
she was born as a woman. She has a jet
a condition. She has not transitioned. She should be able
to come. Some men are born with more physicality as
than other men those they should be able to compete.
(47:08):
You know. Uh, as far as that goes, you know,
she hasn't transitioned. She was was born. Yes, she has
a genetic condition that he has an X Y chromosome.
But she was born as a woman, she lived as
a woman.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
Just what does it get? Stand on the line, Phil,
This is where this gets so interesting. Just got a
tweet from someone named Chris and dude she he was
replying to raging romanticist. Dude she tested positive for an
X chromosome. I don't care if he chose to be
a girl growing up. Clearly you've not done your research.
This is so damn confusing to me. But the Italian
(47:44):
boxer quit saying she'd never been hit like that felt
like a punch from a man. Anyway, continue on, Phil,
because we find out the more confusing it gets. Go ahead.
Speaker 12 (47:52):
Look, this is this is the point. If somebody is
a man, was born as a man in transition to
a woman, and they should not compete in women's sports,
that's not fair. They have a genetic advantage. If somebody
was born as a woman and they have a genetic
issue that says they have an x Y chromosome, but
they have a woman's you know, body parts, they should
(48:17):
be able to compete. That shouldn't be an issue. You know,
men sometimes are just stronger than other men and they're
allowed to compete. So if she's born as a woman,
allowed to compete as a woman, that that is fine
with me.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
Okay, thoughts. Do you have any thoughts on the New
York Jets and Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 11 (48:35):
He's talking to me, yeah, oh yeah, all right.
Speaker 12 (48:39):
Joey Rodgers as I don't know what's going on with him.
He has not played, he has not practiced.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
I'm not sure you're gonna win this year or not.
Speaker 12 (48:50):
I don't know what's going on. The dude is like
forty years old.
Speaker 4 (48:53):
He has not practiced.
Speaker 12 (48:54):
He doesn't care. He's just coasting on his you know,
natural talent. I think that the season for the Jets
is going to.
Speaker 4 (49:02):
Be a fail.
Speaker 2 (49:03):
Okay, appreciate your call. Thanks so much. Phil. We do
this every Friday night at midnight Pacific time. You know,
I don't know if Rogers is coasting or he didn't care,
but I do know this. He should have gone to
Mini caamp and this is not off to a good start.
London and Los Angeles, Welcome to the Bernie Frader Show.
How are you?
Speaker 9 (49:21):
I'm fine?
Speaker 2 (49:21):
How are you good? Thanks for calling in? What you got?
Speaker 4 (49:25):
So?
Speaker 15 (49:26):
I felt the years to call in because this is
a topic that is I have some experience with. I
suppose I am the fans. That means I used to
be transgender. For several years, I was, and then I
decided not to be anymore. I think it was not
(49:47):
a good life decision. And so with regard to this, yeah,
I want good watching the Olympics, well I can give you.
I wanted to frame this issue because it is actually
this is an issue that to me, has it has
it has too much nuance for a lot of the
(50:10):
discussion that's going on.
Speaker 12 (50:11):
Phil.
Speaker 15 (50:12):
While I agreed with or while he had a better
handle on the facts, I ultimately disagreed with his position
on it. So yes, uh Imani killis was as so,
what assigned female at birth appeared to be female by
(50:35):
all accounts, but as she grew up it appeared that
she manifested more male traits. I'm not saying that with
regrets of the genitalium thing that with regards to things
like you know, bones, shoulders, and it looked at her,
you can tell that that is the case. It was.
Speaker 16 (50:53):
Actually there was.
Speaker 15 (50:54):
Another case I believe it was in the Olympics as well,
with a runner named Castor Semenya, same condition. I know
that there there's plenty of different conditions with regard to that. Anyway,
it's x Y chromosomes is correct, ds the differences in
sexual development, there's the at least the catsul term for
these things. So well, Phil is correct that she was
(51:20):
female from birth essentially, and then I suppose you could
say found out that she at least.
Speaker 2 (51:28):
In from your standpoint, From your standpoint, is there is
there a flag you throw here or or is I
mean Gileff? There's no harm, no foul here, just real quickly,
what are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 15 (51:40):
I would say that while it would appear to not
be fair to her, she needs to take a step
back and realize that it's not fair to anybody else.
I think that that is a we've become too focused
on these, you know, tiny little cases in society at
the expense of the majority.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
When you say fair to her, are you talking about
koreem or left to left?
Speaker 15 (52:02):
I can understand why. You know you're here to have
this natural ability, and then you grow up and then
you people say that it's not fair that you're competing,
but it is not fair that she's competing.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Okay, but very broad based answer. These are great calls
as usual, we always do you have any thoughts on
the Jets whatsoever? London?
Speaker 15 (52:20):
I like Aaron Rodgers. I think he's quote unquote based.
I think it would be nice if the Jets would
be good for once. However, I have been hearing so
much overhype this year, maybe not less so this year
than last year. People are like, oh, I think the Jets, well,
I think they're going to get to the AFC Championship game,
(52:41):
and it's like, what on earth is going on?
Speaker 7 (52:43):
And I think it's just you know, New York media.
Speaker 15 (52:45):
Blah blah blah. I always have to hear about the
Mets and Nicks, even though they both stink and always
have and so to me, I think I'm torn.
Speaker 14 (52:55):
I'm torn.
Speaker 7 (52:56):
If the Jets do well, that's good for the Jets.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
If you'll be watching though, right now, pay attention that.
All right, thanks a lot, man, I appreciate you call tonight.
We're off and running, Artemis, Poppy, Bryce, Manuel, hang tight,
don't go anywhere. I want to get to everybody tonight.
This is a very unique topic. Perhaps more information's coming out,
but all we can do is react to what happened
yesterday and the show's tonight, So what might transpire the
(53:21):
next three days with new information? I can't deal it tonight.
We got to deal with it here and now. So
we want to hear from you the thoughts on the
boxing Max between Leff and Karini, you know what happened,
and Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. They're fighting
like high school sophomores. Don't act like they're not. It's
a bad look to start the season where there's already
tons of pressure. Is that going to affect them? You
(53:42):
still think they can get to the Super Bowl? Do
you even care? I'm Bernie Fratto. We are Comedy Alive
from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio Tireck dot com studios.
Keep it locked. You're listening to the Bernie Frattle Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (54:09):
All right, back on the Bernie Frattle Show, coming to
you live from the tyrec dot com studios. We continue,
excuse me, we continue with the boxing match between Kleff
and Karini. Kleef one Karini thought she was fighting a man.
I'm not going to solve that issue tonight. The only
(54:31):
thing I know what's been reported is back in March
in twenty twenty three, Klef came under spotlight as the
IBA disqualified from a gold medal match, saying shit that
a test showed she quote did not meet the required
necessary eligibility and found to have competitive advantages male characteristics. Okay,
we're not going to solve that. We're reacting to what
(54:52):
you saw and what your reaction was. Artemis in Dallas.
Thanks for hanging out, and you're up next. Are you there, Artemis?
Speaker 4 (55:04):
Oh yeah, I'm here.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
I'm here. Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
I am a trans woman from Texas and I've dealt
with a lot of hate and oppression in my time.
You can't go to the women's bathroom, even though my
pronouns is she her. Don't let the voice for you.
They say you can't get married, They say you can't
wear a skirt and talk in public. Well, it's twenty
(55:30):
twenty four and a lot of those things are legal.
And it's also legal for her to punch a woman
in the Olympics because she is a woman.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
You got cleared. So we're not debating that she won
the fight. She got cleared by an international committee, not
questioning that. What I'm wondering is people's reactions to what
they're observing. I don't believe we'd seen that before in
the Olympics, So what are reactions to that. You're okay
with it, basically, right.
Speaker 4 (55:55):
I am okay with it because she is a woman.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Right, you're on the line. I'm taking your call. I
did the midnight hour, did the midnight hour to force
my opinions on people. Okay, yeah, go go ahead, And
then I want to hear what you got to say
about the Jets. If you have any thoughts about.
Speaker 4 (56:15):
That, I think it is okay. I think it's okay.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
Okay. PUNCHONEI if you're a woman, well, duly noted, duly noted,
do you have any thoughts on the New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (56:26):
Oh, Aaron Rodgers. He's supposed to be the savior of
the team, right, And I hate to say this about
him because he has good things to say about the
LGBTQ community, But he's a bomb.
Speaker 2 (56:39):
He's supposed to be the savior.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
He's supposed to be. He's supposed to be God Almighty
the savior. And it's not happening that way. He's far
from the savior. It's starting to make me believe, damn
was he Was it him or was it the other
players on Green Bay that was one of those championships?
Speaker 2 (56:56):
There you go, that's that's a fair question of you know,
it is becoming a parent, It is becoming a parent
every day.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
That it wasn't him. He wasn't the Golden Key.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Artemis, thanks for hanging on, appreciate your call tonight, and
he brings up a very good point regarding the Jets
and rogers to miss Minnie Camp and then to conduct
himself right out of the gate this week, first week
in pads. It doesn't show the kind of leadership you
expect from a guy you're paying fifty million dollars to you.
And by the way, Artemis is right, he is toddled
(57:30):
as the savior if not him who Poppy who correctly
predicted last week take the US lay the fourteen against
Serbia covered by twenty six? What do you got tonight, Poppy?
Speaker 8 (57:43):
You?
Speaker 4 (57:43):
Thank you?
Speaker 5 (57:44):
Bernie?
Speaker 16 (57:44):
Yeah, I did get that one pick in the midnight hour.
Speaker 17 (57:47):
The figure in the United States. You know, we're talking
about the Olympics.
Speaker 16 (57:50):
You know, you know, I don't think you know, she
should have been.
Speaker 17 (57:55):
Competing all, you know, legally according to the Olympics committee
that she but Oscar de Lahoya, I don't know if
you guys know, Oscarlohoa I said he wasn't happy with it.
He said his most accomplishing he's done, has got.
Speaker 16 (58:10):
A gold medal for you want to say, as a boxer,
and he said he's going to win the Olympics come
here in twenty twenty eight in La. He's going to
be fighting for those people that say that they're women
and they're not.
Speaker 11 (58:22):
But I don't know.
Speaker 16 (58:22):
I saw the highlights and I felt like it was
a hot dog. That person with rand was like for me,
I thought personally that was a man, and you know,
I thought that was unacceptable. But it's all part of
the propaganda what the Olympics are doing. They're like pushing
all this agenda for people. But hey, it is twenty
twenty fourths. Crazy stuff's happened. More crazy stuff is going
(58:43):
to happen.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
Speaking of crazy stuff, what about the Jets and Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 16 (58:47):
Yes, what crazy stuff? I have a crazy take me
for you, Bernie. I know you're gonna love this. Well, look,
Aaron Rodgers is not going to training camp. So this
is my conspiracy theory. He had to take a year
off last year, who went to Peru? And this year?
You know, Egypt has the place to be Egypt, Egypt,
and he went with King Tut and he had a
(59:07):
generation like he rejuvenized himself, Bernie, And what's gonna happen
a lot of people are criticizing him. He's been horrible, horrible.
But you know what, I love this because this should
be on hard knocks. It shouldn't be the Giants, it
should be the Jets. I'm really loving all this drama
because when it comes to the regular season, he's going
(59:27):
to gear up, he's going to plan training caps, and
I see the Jets going to the playoffs and Aaron
Rodgers doing a good, good season.
Speaker 9 (59:33):
So that's my take.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
O great, all right, poppy, fair enough, and we're going
to know soon enough. They open up at San Francisco
on Monday Night football on September ninth or eighth or ninth.
I think if Monday September ninth, excuse me, and we're
going to be watching, that's for sure. Bryce in Texas,
you're up next your thoughts tonight.
Speaker 7 (59:54):
Oh I am so glad.
Speaker 18 (59:56):
I'm so close to getting a hole pizza delivery guy
that uh deliver the pizza to Michael Jordan's's hotel to
give them the Flue game. And I'm sending them stay
over to Aaron Rodgers. I can't wait as a brown
less and less competition.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
So you're looking for, you're looking forward to to, You're
looking forward to the just the face plant this year? Right? Basically, yeah,
could they possibly surprise you Bryce and do well and
get to the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Maybe?
Speaker 18 (01:00:27):
Or I mean I guess I would be a surprise,
but not a surprise. I want.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
I love that you're rooting against him, because this makes
our point. If this is the way the world works,
the opposite of love is not Hated's a difference. Quickly
on the Olympic boxing match. You have any thoughts on that, Yeah.
Speaker 18 (01:00:47):
Whether she's whether this person's actually a nail or it's
a genetic thing. I think this is really good conversation
to have because it's going to happen in the future
if not now.
Speaker 11 (01:00:56):
And what's confusing me all week is we get.
Speaker 18 (01:00:59):
Mad at Harris Butcher or saying what he said on stage,
and that's sending women's rights back in quality back fifty
years or so. But then when you allow this, it's
literally sending women's rights the ability to compete at a
fair level way back. And I don't know how you
justify that in your head moving forward. If you're going
(01:01:20):
to allow people who are just naturally more dominant because
of the chromosodes they were born with to compete against
women who don't have that same advange.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
All right, thanks a lot for checking in tonight. Bryce,
Hang on, men, well we're coming to you next. I
don't want to give you a short shrift. And of
course Riley moh and Andy right behind Manuel. We're getting
to all of you tonight. But first we got to
go back to our guy, Kevin Figures with the latest.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
All right, Bernie.
Speaker 10 (01:01:46):
In a Major League Baseball Friday night, reigning Cy Young
Award winner Blake Snell threw a no hitter against the
Reds in Cincinnati. The eight year veterans striking out eleven
batters he walked three.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
It was the first complete game of his career. Three
noting thing was.
Speaker 10 (01:02:00):
The final, as Casey Schmid and Tyler Fitzgerald provided the
offense for San Francisco with home runs. Their arrival Dodgers
in the NL West allowed three home runs to the
A's and suffer at their fifth loss in their last
six games, six to five to the final there Seattle
maliwa Philadelphia ten to two. Raphael Devers went deep for
Boston in a victory over Texas. The Rangers did place
(01:02:21):
pitcher Max Scherzer on the injured list with shoulder fatigue.
It was the Rockies five and the Padres. Two victories
for the Astros Milwaukee and the Guardians who beat Baltimore
eight to four at the Olympic. Third round of the
men's golf tournament is underway, although the men at the
top of the leader board are not set. The tee
off for another couple of hours. Back to Bernie Fredo.
Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
All right, thanks Kevin, appreciate you, bud. Ladies and gentlemen,
boys and girls, take a seat. The comedic stylings of
Manuel from Guardina Manwell, what's up, buddy?
Speaker 12 (01:02:53):
Sh shit came in the chain reaction inaudible when there's
no chances Arnet and the.
Speaker 19 (01:03:03):
Lovely Breezy and my man Kevin Figlas shevn DJ Kevin Fegas,
how you guys doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
We were doing any better? We have to sell tickets. Man,
what are your thoughts on our two subjects tonight?
Speaker 19 (01:03:19):
Well, man, no one's it's a really really big deal.
I mean this whole the woman competing as a man thing. Man,
I don't even know where to start or where to
end with it, to be honest.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Well, here here's the thing, man. You're a thoughtful guy.
You are, and you usually find angles that a lot
of other people don't. The one thing that I'm happy
for tonight, no hate speech, no hating. These people are
human beings, whether you like them or not. Okay, they
are God breathed life into them. They are human beings,
and so we are not attacking anybody personally. This is
(01:03:55):
being reported as an international event. Okay, you can't ignore.
So let's go to the people. What do they think.
You're right, it's a highly charged situation. But when you
saw it, what was the knee jerk reaction you had?
Speaker 19 (01:04:12):
Well, my knee jerk reaction would be that you're gonna
have to almost do male, female and then other, you know,
I mean, because how do you make everything fair? I
really don't think there is a way unless you do
like male, female and other. And I know that's going
to be a touchy subject because, like you said, they
(01:04:33):
are human beings. We're all human beings, and that kind
of preference is something that's new, so it's a tough thing.
But yeah, I think that they need to let women
compete with women, and men with men and men a
if they want to have a third category, then let
the people that are transgender have their own I think
(01:04:57):
I don't know, man Like, it's a tough one man,
all right, fair.
Speaker 11 (01:04:59):
Enough, I just want to be respectful.
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
No, that's good. I'm glad and you kind of summarized it.
There's no there's no conclusive, conclusive answer here. From where
you sit is where you stand. How about the New
York Jets and the uh the uh you know, the
Aaron Rodgers saga.
Speaker 19 (01:05:17):
Well, look, man, I was a big Aaron Rodgerson. Green
Bay used to be my second team, and then he
started acting in ass you know, and uh from Egypt
to the crap last year of you know, acting like
he was going to come back when everybody knew he wasn't.
Speaker 11 (01:05:35):
I'm just tired of the whole act.
Speaker 19 (01:05:36):
To be honest. I mean, he's a he's a great,
but I don't know that he's as great as he
thinks he is in his own mind. He's no Brett Barb.
I'll just leave it at that. Keep it real, Bernie,
love the show and talk to you next week, baby.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
Okay, man, Well appreciate you, buddy always. Uh. We've got
Riley from Seattle up next. You go ahead, Riley, Hi,
Bernie can you hear me, Yes, we can hear you.
Just fine, Thank you?
Speaker 20 (01:06:03):
Hi, shirts off, How are you doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Go ahead?
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
Good.
Speaker 16 (01:06:10):
So I have a little bit.
Speaker 20 (01:06:12):
Of a perspective on the Ammani Khalif issue. I am
a transgender woman. Again, don't let the voice fool you.
Like the other caller, I just haven't voice trained. But
there's a couple of things that I want to touch
on that I haven't really heard anybody talk about. In
my apologies if you mentioned this, I haven't been listening
the whole time. But a Moni Khalif, her record is
(01:06:36):
fought fifty one total times and she's lost nine times.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
That's right, That's exactly right. I was going to get
to that she has lost nine bouts against other female fighters.
Thanks for reminding the folks of that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
Go ahead, and with.
Speaker 20 (01:06:50):
That, there's a lot a lot of this whole controversy
is fueled by bigotry and ignorance, which I've experienced a
lot of that firsthand, just in my life and with
my friends and around a lot of different people. But
she has lost nine times to other women, which a
lot of people want to say it's not fair that
(01:07:12):
she's fighting against other women. But she doesn't have this
enormous physical advantage towards she's dominating every fight she's been in, right,
So a lot of this is Karni being a sore
loser and wanting to have an issue out of this.
And also in Algeria, where Amani Calif is from, LGBT
(01:07:36):
rights are very, very non progressive. It is actually illegal
to be gay or to even transition. So not that
not a trans woman. She was born a woman. She
has a genetic condition that has her with an extra chromosome.
But even if she happened to be she literally could
not be trans because it is a is a crime
(01:07:58):
punishable by death in her home country. So I don't
think anybody's mentioned that yet, but that's a pretty big point,
is that her literal home country would not allow her
to be living if she was what people are trying
to claim she has.
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
All right, very broad based call. Appreciate your perspectives a lot.
Do you care to weigh in on the New York
Jets and Aaron Rodgers? Yeah?
Speaker 12 (01:08:21):
I do.
Speaker 20 (01:08:23):
So it's kind of complicated in that I was originally
a big fan of Aaron Rodgers and then like the
last callers that he's kind of gone off the deep
end in the last few years. So on one hand,
I want to see the Jets succeed because they've been
long suffering and it's kind of a running They're just
a running joke, and I always like to root for
(01:08:44):
the underdog story and the stories that are interesting. I
have the feeling that if Rogers stays healthy, they're going
to finish like nine to eight. Probably not as good
as they want to be, but I do think they
have a chance at making a run if they get
to that point.
Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
If he says healthy appreciate the call to night, and
I think the takeaway there is that this would be
a better story if Rogers wins, but sometimes he makes
it hard for people to root for him. Let's get
one more in here, more from Idaho. You're up next.
Speaker 11 (01:09:15):
Hey Bernie, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
You bet.
Speaker 11 (01:09:19):
Here's the perspectives that I have on the trends. I
can't Let's just say, you have a really good college
basketball player but not quite good enough to like flavor
enc State, so he trans plays for a women's team,
or you have an NBA player washing out after about
(01:09:40):
ten years. He plays in the w NBA and I mean,
they're going to be awfully good in the w NBA
or in women's basketball. I think that answers a lot
of questions there. I think it's real difficult for the
people that are trans I'm listening tonight and listening to
their perspectives. I don't know what the answer is for them.
(01:10:02):
A couple of callers back said men women another Maybe
maybe that's it. I don't know. Golf would be another
sport or in the shot, but if you had a
man trans to a woman, they'd probably dominate that sport.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Any thought. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets my man seven wins.
Speaker 11 (01:10:23):
I used to really like Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (01:10:24):
And.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
So you think the Jets will only win seven games
even if Rogers is healthy all year.
Speaker 8 (01:10:35):
Well, they want time to think he won't.
Speaker 11 (01:10:38):
I don't think he's going to be healthy all year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
That's fair, that's fair. That's that's really the elephant in
the room here. We'll appreciate your call. Don't be a stranger.
Every Friday night, midnight Pacific time, that's where I said,
I'm guessing it's maybe you're two hours ahead of some Idaho.
We want to hear from the callers I'm standing callers tonight,
able to have a conversation and above board without any
(01:11:01):
personal diet tribes or at hominem attacks. That's not what
this is about. This is an international sports story. The
Paris Olympics have been spectacular. Fred Hank Tight, Fred from Nebraska,
you will be up next. I'm Bernie Fraddach. We're coming
to your line from the Las Vegas Fox Sports Radio
Tirack dot Com studios. Keep it locked. You're listening to
the Bernie Fratters Show on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
(01:11:23):
back on the Bernie Fratter Show, we continue with our
topics of the midnight hours. We wrap it up the
Olympic Boxing Mansion, the New York Jets. Andy from Minnesota,
You're up next. Andy is gone. Fred from Nebraska, how
are you?
Speaker 9 (01:11:40):
Yeah? I tweeted also I didn't like what I saw,
but I was kind of question how did these two
people get into the Olympics. Didn't they have to go
through qualifiers in their country? Yes they did. Yeah, it's
just amazing. Nobody's say anything then, but we have the Olympics,
the Paralympics, the Olympics. I guess now we need to
(01:12:01):
have the trans Olympics. But and I was also wondering.
I wonder if, like Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson said, Hey,
I'm female, I'm going to go to the Olympics and
beat up some people. You know, that's okay too. But
as far as Aaron Rodgers, what I hear is I
hear a lot of people saying things that they're laying
the groundwork for blame for when their season goes south.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
That's an excellent point, but I try to intimate that
you might have done a better job than I did, Fred,
that if this starts to go south, they're going to
point to these early diatracts.
Speaker 9 (01:12:35):
Go ahead, Yeah, that's all I had. I think they're going.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
I didn't mean to cut you off. You did you
have anything else you want to add to that?
Speaker 9 (01:12:42):
I think they'll finished nine and seven. You know. I
see a transformation and a bunch of the different teams that, uh,
some people aren't seeing. Buffalo is one of them, and
that's who the Jets have to play twice. But a
lot of teams are turning into like Kansas City, or
they're not having high price wide receivers and high price
(01:13:02):
running becks.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
Sure they got a rare culture between Andy Reid and
Patrick Mahomes that no one's going to replicate.
Speaker 9 (01:13:10):
Xme wise. Yeah, but there's a handful of teams that
are following the same blueprint. As far as who they're signing.
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
I'll stake out all right, Fred, appreciate your call. I
know you've called before on the midnight hour. Don't don't,
don't be a stranger, and look a good thing about
the night. Class never goes out of style. Respect never
goes out of style. Like we said with Manuel, we're
dealing with human beings here. We get six billion people
on the planet. I don't know why people do what
they do in all walks of life or whatever they do,
(01:13:38):
but we're not here to judge that. We're here to
kind of react to it and just sort of have
a round table discussion. You know, if three people see
a car accident, they're going to describe it differently. We're
all going to have different perspectives and they're all welcome.
The thing I'm happy to see is that, like I said,
class never goes out of style, respect never goes out
of style. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Dave from Phoenix,
(01:14:02):
is this the day from my old haunt in Michigan.
Oh yeah, I don't good, Bud.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
So I've played a lot of high level co ed softball.
I certainly understand the difference in strength and speed between
men and women, but this particular case isn't as simple
because you have a person who was born female and
has not transitioned. So I don't quite know what to
(01:14:28):
make of that. And as one of your other callers said,
she has lost a certain number of fights.
Speaker 11 (01:14:35):
I just think it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Well where here's where it gets confusing, Dave. Why why then,
was she disqualified in March or twenty twenty three from
the IBA by their testing standards. I don't have an answer.
I just know that that's what happened.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Evidently the IBA has a different set of standards from
the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
But well they do, they do. But I'm pretty yeah,
well go ahead, you yet, floor.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
I think it's interesting that people who have never liked
women's sports, who fought against Total nine, who have thought
that female athletes aren't feminine, are now suddenly so concerned
about women's sports, and yet they're not concerned about well,
let's say a biracial person being asked, when did you
(01:15:22):
turn black. Isn't that interesting?
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Look, We're not going to solve the world promps tonight.
What we are trying to do is get the broad
based perspectives from around the globe, literally from enlightened people,
so all points are duly noted tonight. We are not
going to solve the world's problems real quickly, New York.
We're we're not going to solve the Jets problems either.
You have any thoughts on that. I got to move
(01:15:47):
along here, big fellow.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
So Aaron Rodgers was great in Green Bay, despite one
of your callers saying, no, it was his teammates, Queen.
The guys won multiple MVP awards, so I can't take
that away from them.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Question one of the big Game that calling wasn't really wrong?
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
He was, no, but but they did win one Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
They did.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
They did, of course, But I don't know how much
he has left. And I know the Jets are in
a tough division. I don't think they're going to be
a lousy team, but I'm guessing like nine and eight
or eight and nine somewhere in the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
Interesting. If they're eight and nine, boy, the sky is
gonna fall. Dave appreciate it. Next time you call, we'll
talk Michigan football a little bit. Okay, but all right, uh,
this will probably be our last call. We have a
bit of a time crunch. I apologize. We don't like
shutting anybody out, but we got a great new feature
coming up around one am Pacific time. We can always
use a kool breeze, you know, on the show. See
(01:16:41):
what I did there? All right, Tyler from Phoenix, wrap
it up for us tonight. Your thoughts on both subjects.
Speaker 21 (01:16:48):
Here's that, Bernie. All right, So I think on the
boxing thing, it's really complicated. If it's a trans person,
I think that that's wholly unfair, and it's it's disrespectful
to women's sports because you don't have women that trans
The men compete trying to compete against men. However, if
somebody is genetically born like the story day, the person
(01:17:08):
was genetically born a woman, but their genetics are just different.
You know, sports and competition are predicated on genetic advantage.
If I tried to play Lebron James one on one
in basketball, I'm a five to nine white guy. Lebron
James has a genetic advantage over me is huge. You know,
even you look at the difference between him and his son.
(01:17:30):
It's predicated on genetic advantage, so there should be an
avenue of competition for everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
Well, the one aspect of this that I don't believes
come up tonight, maybe break and correct me, is when
are we going to see a woman transition into a
man or maybe a woman is born as a man
and then get on the field against men. I don't
recall seeing that. So if it's really neat to field,
just a thought, don't lose your mind's feet feats so
(01:17:56):
real quickly on the jets there, big fellow.
Speaker 12 (01:17:59):
I think it would be.
Speaker 21 (01:18:00):
More weird if there wasn't something weird around Aaron Rodgers.
Somebody told me one time, once somebody shows you who
they are, believed him. Aaron Rodgers has showed us enough
times who he is. Did we stop believing him? Because
he could behave himself one time. People can pretend to
be someone else for a little while, but they will
always revert to who they are, and that's what he's done.
(01:18:21):
It would be more weird if he didn't do something strange.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Tyler, that is such a good call. All the calls
were good, but man, way to wrap it up that is.
I know we all it's against a it's against a
lot of practice psychology without a license, even though I
typically do it on the show ball once a week.
But you think about what Tyler said pretty heady there,
because when Aaron Rodgers was in high school, he had
(01:18:46):
no scholarship offers, his coach didn't believe in him. He
had to go to Butte Junior College, then had one
shot of cal Then he stuck behind Brett fav and
didn't get a lot of respect. So I don't think
he ever has lost that chip on his shoulder when
he always believed he had to do three times as
much to get half as much respect. And even at
forty years old. Look, things happen to human beings in
(01:19:08):
their lives early on. They don't leave you. And he's
acting out a little bit. He always kind of has.
When we had success in Green Bay and followed Brett Favre,
it got shadowed outstanding calls to everybody. If you took
the time to call in wait on hold, we greatly
appreciate your thoughts tonight. That's why we do the Midnight
Hour Don't be a Stranger every Friday night at midnight

Well Er daily get rules at Fox sports radio dot com.

The way tire buying should be. Is this an idea
whose time has come? Or just more robotics. I know,
(01:21:29):
as you root for your favorite team, you've seen maybe
a bad spot. You thought that was a first down,
or you thought the other team didn't get a first down.
And by the naked eye, these chain gangs, they run
them out there and they measure while everybody waits with
baited breath. Well, for a long time, a lot of
football fans believe they deserved a better way to measure
(01:21:49):
a close call on first downs. And now the NFL
is trying something out. According to the AP, during the
upcoming preseason, which has already started, the league is gonna
take that's what's called the Sony Hawkeye technology. If it works,
it's going to replace the chain crew, and that's going
to be used to measure whether or not an offense, well,
(01:22:10):
whether or not they've successfully converted a first down or not.
I've heard announcers say it many times, this is so archaic.
We're really lying relying on, you know, visualization, and if
there's snow on the field, or the fields chopped up,
or the spot of the ball is many times an
educated guess. So they're in the installation phase for all
(01:22:33):
the stadiums and they're getting this stuff calibrated. And by
the way, you know Hawkeye tracking innovation, which has been
created by Sony. They've officially become, I believe, a technology
partner of the NFL. So I don't think they're ready
for full implementation certainly, and they may not be for
(01:22:53):
a while. But as it pertains to players, officials, the
football itself. The backing service, Well, it's gonna add cameras,
it's gonna notify referees. Remember we talked about the strike
zone with the robot umpire. This system will notify referees
if this was a first down or not. So apparently,
(01:23:14):
you know if you like seeing the chain crew on
the on the sideline. Reportedly, they're still going to remain
on the sideline as a backup plan, but you know
they're they're they're copying the United Football League, which currently
implements what they call true True, True line technology for
the same thing. So Kevin figures is just an idea
whose time has come or you have other thoughts.
Speaker 1 (01:23:34):
No, I mean, look, the time has come up.
Speaker 10 (01:23:36):
The technology is there, and we can find a way
to eliminate any sort of human error when it comes
to certain situations like this, and you don't necessarily get
it in situations like that. I kind of equated though
to the automated strike zone in baseball, and there's still
some kings to work out there. But if there's a
technology available that will lessen the the the issues that
you would have with human error, then I'm all for it.
(01:23:59):
So if there's still things to work through, and you're
still gonna have a human crew that can override issue
if there are issues. I see no reason why we
shouldn't go to this system.
Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Well, they're gonna do it here in the preseason. Yeah,
And the key to me will not be whether or
not the technology in and of itself is an improvement
over human error, but how they implement it. It's like
for me, Kevin, instant replay, it's starting to it's almost
to be played because it ruins the EBB and flow
of the game. But that's just me. And so you know,
here's really the question. Will believe the accuracy, but is
(01:24:32):
there going to be a four minute wait while they
decide whether the computer tells us it's yes or no.
Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
I wouldn't think so.
Speaker 10 (01:24:38):
I will think it'd be instantaneous, And like I mean,
usually the technology and again you're testing it out here,
so whatever issues you have, you're gonna have probably a
good year or two in the preseason to figure it
out before we implement it in the regular season. So
I would think those sorts of issues may pop up
in the preseason, and preseason games are long and clunky anyway,
So what difference than to be honest with you, if
(01:24:59):
we're going to be frank, how many people are going
to sit through an entire, you know, four far broadcast
of a preseason game, regardless, you're probably tuning out after
the first half of all the players you've heard of
have already played. So I don't really think it's going
to be that big of an issue once to actually
implement it and ready for prime time.
Speaker 2 (01:25:15):
Yeah, hopefully they will. And I don't think we're not
going to see it. Just to clarify, we are not
going to see it during the regular season this year
at all. We're going to see it during the preseason.
And I from people I've talked to you, I don't
even think you'll see it in twenty twenty five. However,
I think it's something they'd like to go to for
(01:25:36):
obvious reasons. Bree, you're a football fan. Your thoughts on
this whole deal?
Speaker 22 (01:25:40):
Yeah, I think it's going to be interesting.
Speaker 23 (01:25:41):
I think they're trying to kind of make it as
a short amount of time as possible. I think I
was reading like forty seconds or yeah, to make sure
that they get it right, which I think is kind
of funny because I mean, we all know how machines
and technology works. I mean, you can be everything can
be low dow and then it's going to go through
an update and then you know, then it's like, okay,
(01:26:03):
well we have to get the chain gag out here anyway,
because you know, this machine's going through an update.
Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
So I don't know, that's just that's how.
Speaker 22 (01:26:09):
I'm kind of thinking. I'm like, okay, great, like that's
that's it's buffering. Yeah, well, you know what if it
starts raining really hard, or a piece of hail like
you know, smacks the camera or you know something, and
then I don't know, you know, so I think it'll
be for at least for me. I'll believe it when
I see it, and I'll think it's a good idea
when it, you know, actually makes an impact in it.
(01:26:33):
That's a swipe right, yes, So anyways, but that's yeah,
so so we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
So we'll see, Well, the games evolve, technology evolves, and look,
the NFL has come a long way in terms of
trying to get these things right, and this is another
one of them. I know. And Mark, we'll get to
you in a second. To this day, almost ten years later,
Michigan fans covetch about what they thought was the bad
spot against Ohio State, and Michigan fans thought Ohio State
(01:27:02):
did not get the first down, their defense held them
And it's very debatable whether that was a good spot
or not. And I tell you to this day, Michigan
fans are pissed because hard ball started out zero to
five against Ohio State and if that spot had gone
their way, to presume Michigan would have beatn No House
State in year two. However, they do neatly ignore that
Michigan blew a ten point lead in the fourth quarter.
(01:27:23):
So if you don't, you know, want to worry about
a spot trying you know, here's a little advice from
your uncle Bernie. Don't blow a ten point lead in
the fourth quarter. But I digress, all right, Mark Ramsey,
you're a true blue Bears fan. You know you'd hate
to see a bad spot prevent the Bears to go
to the Super Bowl. So your thoughts on.
Speaker 24 (01:27:41):
This, I think the slight missing the anticipation of lining
up the chain gang to come out. That's the first
part about, you know, seeing them run onto the field.
If this situation takes any longer than your example of
just trying to explain to us what it's going to happen.
It doesn't sound like it's going to be great because
(01:28:03):
I don't understand how they're going to make it any
quicker than running from the sideline to the field. To
make the point, I don't see how the technology is
going to work any better than what's already going on.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Well, I think there's gonna be diagrams with cameras, and
they'll be lines that you can't see, and they'll be measurements,
almost like an electric eye type of thing.
Speaker 24 (01:28:24):
Maybe they'll have a little logo that comes up like
an eagle eye, and then they'll you know, you'll see it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:28):
I don't know, something like that. These are the kings
that gotta work out. I mean, it's one thing conceptually
to have this thought that you can now you know what.
It has typically been regarded as an archaic system going
back one hundred years, with men on a sideline guessing
where the spot of the ball was, because it is
it's an educated guess. I get it. The game's played
(01:28:49):
at high speed, and if the referee spots it in
the wrong spot in the first place, the whole thing
goes out the window. But it's not just the concept
of creating technology to try to strive towards perfection. As
it comes to officiating, it's the feature functionality. This is
then entertainment medium. I hate when they take forever the
(01:29:09):
delays when it when you know, when it comes to
the instant replaying football, I know you want to get
it right. The first year they did instant replay, they
gauged it that the referees were already getting it right
eighty three percent of the time, and that feels like
a lot, but there's margin of error there as well.
The problem is when you start to look at a
play from multiple angles in slow motion, oftentimes it adds
(01:29:32):
to the confusion, and it adds to the perspective and
you can often change your mind. You don't know, and
then while you know, Rome burns and the players are
standing around, you're waiting for a decision. In any way
you slice it, fifty percent of the people are going
to be pissed off, in fifty percent to be happy.
Speaker 24 (01:29:46):
Is this Is this anything like uh and tennis when
they try to figure out if the ball, Yeah, that's.
Speaker 2 (01:29:52):
I think it'd be very similar to that. That's an
excellent comparison.
Speaker 24 (01:29:55):
Because that looks you know better than me. If they
do that, that might help, because.
Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
That's what they're going to be doing.
Speaker 4 (01:30:02):
But that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
Appears to be much quicker than.
Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
But remember tennis is also much more cut and drive.
You see the ball on its own there. But you
take a football, I got, you know, a squum where
guy's trying to gain one yard and he's reaching out
for the ball and there's twenty two bodies around it,
and it's a muddy field and it's a great sky. Hey. Look,
their intentions are good, their intentions are pure. So we'll
(01:30:28):
see if it pans out. Coming out Chris Purfet's World
of Soccer. But first, back to our guy, Kevin Figures
with the latest.
Speaker 10 (01:30:36):
All right, and Blake Snell of the Giants through his
third no I should say, the third no hitter in
Major League Baseball this season was actually the first no
hitter of his individual career, first complete game of Blake
Snell's career, the Giants defeeding Cincinnati three and nothing, eleven strikeouts,
three walks, one hundred and fourteen pitches for the eight
year veteran. There his former team, the Padres, lost at
(01:30:57):
home to Colorado five to two, with three home runs
and a six to five victory over at the Dodgers
Seattle four home runs and seven strong innings from Brian Wu,
they dominated the Phillies ten to two. The Guardians won
their fifth in a row, defeating Baltimore eight to four.
Yankees in Baltimore tight atop the American League East. This
after New York failed to take advantage of Baltimore's loss.
(01:31:19):
They failed to Toronto eight to five Arizona Blue of
five run League, but did hold on to defeat the
Pirates nine to eight. You had victories for the Mets,
Royals and the Minnesota Twins in Paris. The third round
of men's golf is underway, as are gold medal rounds
for tressage and rowing. Korea has won Golden shooting for
women's twenty five minute meter pistol. Upcoming events of note
include gold medal events and men's doubles in tennis, sailing
(01:31:41):
in table tennis. I don't know if I did it.
Is there something more obscure that I missed there? Bernie,
Please let me know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
You gotta cover with my friend Wohll. How about men's
Olympic basketball USA takes on Puerto Rico here in about
six hours and forty five minutes.
Speaker 10 (01:31:55):
Looking forward to that one. We'll see who doesn't play.
How about that? That seems to be the headline that.
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Now, that's a good tease for my final segment tonight.
I really loved what Kevin Durant said. You know, Chris Wack,
Chris Rock once said, you don't get a lot of
credit for doing what you're supposed to do. But I
want to give Steve Kerr a lot of credit for
the way he's handling things. Just just my thoughts and
I'm with you, Kevin. Kevin Durant had some cool things
(01:32:20):
to say. We're gonna get to that. Coming up at first, Well,
the men's Olympic team soccer team, it's been that kind
of year. It's been that kind of decade. We've been
that kind of century. Tell me when we've had a
great men's soccer team lost to Morocco four to nothing,
that's like losing forty to nothing in football. But I digress.
Coming up, Chris Pherfett's World of Soccer.
Speaker 25 (01:32:42):
The Greatest cools, the thrilling finishes, the international drum.
Speaker 5 (01:32:58):
It's all here and from the World of Soccer.
Speaker 26 (01:33:02):
Well, Bernie, as we are learning in the world of soccer,
you can indeed have too much of a good thing
in the sport.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
We will get to that in a second.
Speaker 26 (01:33:11):
First off, I want to give a little bit of
an update on the Olympics side, on the men's side. Here,
let's talk about what's been going on. Egypt is in
the semi finals for the first time since nineteen sixty four,
going through on penalty kicks. Fantastic scenes there in Paris.
But let's also talk about the US men's youth team
at the Olympics. Again, the Olympics is an under twenty
(01:33:32):
three event for men's soccer. It is allowed I think
three or so overage slots, but most of the rest
of the players have to be twenty three years or younger.
So it's a bit of a youth competition. And to
be clear, most of these guys again did not play
in stuff like Copa America or in champion I mean,
(01:33:53):
excuse me, a Euros Championship here that went on over
the summer. It's a crowded calendar. The US men hadn't
really scored in the Olympics for years.
Speaker 1 (01:34:04):
That can be measured in double digits.
Speaker 26 (01:34:06):
However, that and it looked like they were headed that
way again after a rough start three to France in
their group stage, a very tough group stage, but then.
Speaker 1 (01:34:15):
The young Americans really turned on the floodgates.
Speaker 26 (01:34:17):
They scored four to one against New Zealand and victory
and then a three nil victory over Guyana actually qualified
them for the quarterfinals, which then turned the other way
and they got blanked out by Morocco for nil. So
it's a bit of a wake up call after what
looks like good vibes for the men's team here. America
has always leaned on its youth depth, so I'm not
(01:34:40):
going to chalk this up to nothing. It does bring
up some more questions than answers as the US looks
two years down the road to where they will host
a World Cup and have an automatic bid in there.
And again, not every eligible player here was field in
the Olympics. They played at COPA. But it's still true
that the lashes of brilliance that has propelled the under
(01:35:02):
twenty three squad here just really fell apart, and the
US does rely on youth players, these guys who will
then be two years older by the time the World
Cup rolls around. They will be relied on depth, because
that's just kind of how the America rolls. But it
is also a transfer windows summer, Bernie, it is the
MLS season. Lionel Messi wants an injured not in for
(01:35:23):
Inter Miami for the League's Cup. But I want to
hit upon a conversation that actually got brought up by
Robert Lewandowski, the Polish great for Barcelona, weighing in on
a month long and really much longer than that issue
that has been happening in the world of soccer, and
that Lewandowski claims he has concerns over that the soccer
(01:35:44):
calendar is simply too crowded, saying, quote, this season is
going to be more tough than before because we have.
Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
More games in the Champions League. There are more games
in the club, but also national team. We travel a lot.
Speaker 26 (01:35:56):
What he's referring to is what's been going on this
past But we have to wind back the clock a
little bit because back in late July, European leagues and players'
unions went to the European Commission, the Executive Army of
the European Union, and a commercial court in Brussels, Way
asking them to weigh in on FIFA congestion and alleged
breaches of competition law. Now there's been a lot going
(01:36:20):
on back and forth on this legal thing, it goes
back several months, but the main gist of this is this,
the sporting calendar for soccer has been quite simply, far
too crammed. One of the stories we spoke about Bernie
is how we just had ten months of uninterrupted soccer
and that's really the tip of the iceberg. It's pretty dramatic.
Now in these next couple of years, new competitions are
(01:36:42):
coming along. FIFA's own attempt to revitalize the Club World
Cup has brought it to a thirty two team format,
adding once again more pressure that they've got that clubs
have to play that along with their domestic leagues Champions
League and the two different and one to two different
cups that happen in these countries. That's not even to
talk about the expanded format for the twenty twenty six
(01:37:03):
World Cup, which will be going.
Speaker 1 (01:37:05):
Through forty eight teams.
Speaker 26 (01:37:07):
It's putting more and more pressure on players who are
playing more and more months of uninterrupted soccer. And yes,
part of this ask to the European Commission is also
weighing in on what exactly went down with the Super
League so Fifth Pro Europe, the player union for those
European players had really some harsh words for the world's organizer,
(01:37:29):
and again this all comes down to the problem that
they say that FIFA doesn't really talk with clubs or
national leagues before just throwing stuff together. They say, quote regretfully,
FIFA has consistently refused to include national leagues and player
unions in its decision making process. FIFA's decisions over the
last years have repeatedly favored its own competitions and commercial interests,
(01:37:50):
neglecting its responsibilities as a governing body, and harmed the
economic interests of national leagues and the welfare of players.
No complaints from me there, Bernie. The revitalization attempts on
the Club World Cup is nakedly jealousy on the part
of FIFA, who has seen the kind of money that UEFA,
the organizer for European sport, breaks in with their incredibly,
(01:38:15):
incredibly popular Champions League format. FIFA finally really bent the
knee here on Thursday, and they've offered talks with global
groups and those in Europe to try to end what
has become this three month deadlock and now threats of
legal action, because nothing really gets FIFA off its ass
and starting to move more than actually giving them consequences
(01:38:36):
to their own actions. But to be clear, it's not
just FIFA doing this. UEFA has also been trying to
expand the Champions League. That Super League mess happened, and
there's still the burning embers of that and we'll see
if that comes back and threatens more competition on that horizon.
And more importantly than that, friendlies in the summer in
America and other places abroad have become massive, important moneymakers
(01:39:01):
for European clubs, and the people who buy those tickets
have an expectation to see the top stars of those
clubs play. They don't care that it's a friendly, that
it's over in America, that it could be in Southeast Asia,
which has become a growing market for the Premier League,
just as it has been stateside. Those all add pressures
as well on top of everything else that has been
(01:39:23):
going on to make an exhaustive calendar, especially in these
even years where players are jumping between international team to
NASH to their domestic clubs, to those clubs having to
play the domestic schedule, to playing Champions League or Europa League,
to playing the League's Cup, to playing the FA Cup.
Speaker 1 (01:39:44):
Is speaking specifically of England.
Speaker 26 (01:39:46):
Of course, it's a lot, Bernie, it is a lot,
and it is finally hitting an exhaustive point. We love
soccer around the world, but quite frankly, this might be
a little bit too much, and much like people have
said sometimes with say baseball, you might need to crank
it back a little bit. The problem is the almighty dollar,
(01:40:07):
the almighty euro, the pound, whatever you have, is speaking
right now and it is just forcing this down the
gullets further and further and further, and FIFA and you
waifier at loggerheads on who should be the one to
control these massive competitions and get all this money, and
ultimately what it's going to do is hurt the sport overall.
(01:40:27):
Unless we find some sanity and realize that these are
human beings playing the sport and they need an off
season as well. That's it for us in the world
of soccer, Bernie. We'll see you next week again. It's
transfer window season, plenty of trade rumors and transfer rumors
flying around.
Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
It's exciting time here. We'll see you next week.
Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
There's an interesting irony to that commentary that the notion
that soccer could be reaching a somewhat stage of saturation
is interesting. We started this bit with Chris prior to
Thanksgiving twenty twenty two because that was the Men's World
(01:41:08):
Cup and the USA played England and there was a
huge build up to it, and you know, from there
we've had the you know, Women's World Cup now now
the Olympics and Euros and all kinds of stuff. So
it's one thing after another. And you had Messy signed
with an American team, and the MLS just growing in popularity,
so it's one thing after another, just constant news. So
(01:41:30):
the irony though that before, you know, soccer in this country,
we don't even call it soccer. Another country, you know,
they call it football. It's just one of those sports.
It falls under what I call the Canadian Football League
syndrome that if you don't know who's playing and you
don't know the significance of the game, that's what Americans need.
We need context and we don't have it, but we're
(01:41:52):
starting to get more of it. So the irony is
that Chris would even imply that perhaps soccer's reaching a
saturation point. And if that's the case, I don't know
that that's a bad thing. And US don't have to
hire a new coach. And that is something that will
that will be in the news. What it's also in
the news is the US men's basketball team. Now they're
(01:42:13):
seven zero, they'll be eight and o. They will, as
Kevin would say, molliwap Puerto Rico about seven hours from now.
Trust me, they'll molliwah Puerto Rico. And they'll get into
the quarterfinals. And I don't think anybody's beating them. Canada
give them a thrill. Maybe so will Germany. I don't know.
You might it a little thrill up your leg for
three quarters. But no one's beating this team. They're too athletic,
they're too deep, they're two everything. And the irony is
(01:42:38):
is they're winning, but some people don't like the way
they're winning. And and and you know, there was this
attempt at drama when Jason Tatum didn't get in the
other day. I don't believe he complained, and there was
more drama, you know, Joel Eller, Joel Embiid, and I've
said many times before they're managing it. Well. I didn't
say it. Chub Day told me that coaching an NBA
(01:43:01):
team is like it's like managing an adult daycare center,
because they're growing men and they're paid and you've got
to manage personalities and egos and win their respect. I
think Steve Kerr has done a phenomenal job. They're going
to finish the deal. They'll win, They'll beat Puerto Rico,
they'll win the final three games. We have Mark Mdina
on Saturday night to chop this up. So as a group,
(01:43:21):
if that happens, which I believe it will, they will
have gone eleven and oh, maybe they had a couple
close calls, but they're eleven and oh and they're going
to bring home another gold again. To quote Chris Rock,
you don't get a lot of credit for doing what
you're supposed to do well. Steve Kerr is doing that
and maybe not getting a lot of credit. But Kevin
(01:43:42):
Durant stuck up for him. And I really liked what
Kevin Durant had to say because it brought us back
to reality and why they're here in the first place.
We'll have all that coming up as we wrap up
the show. I'm Bernie Fradder. We're company line from Las
Vegas Fox Sports Radio Diirec dot com studios. Keep it

Mark Ramsey, our technical producer, turning all the dials, keeping
(01:44:36):
us flu together. Bre our executive producer. Great job tonight
taking all the calls in the midnight hour, and of
course her new segment, Breeze Three's, which we'll be doing
every Friday night at heading into Saturday morning at one
am Pacific for you pop culture entertainments fans and Kevin
Figures capably handling all of our updates, including all the
(01:45:00):
obscure Olympic sports like men's basketball. Yeah, see what I
did there, speaking of that, And by the way, before
we get to that. I want to say one thing.
I gave out a best bet last week Texans Bears.
I liked the Bears catching two points. You saw what happen.
The game was called in the third quartercas of rain.
(01:45:21):
So if you're holding a bet, it's graded no action
by ninety nine percent of the casinos. And the NFL
game's got to be fifty five minutes. There's a bit
of a bummer because there are a lot of good
trends in the preseason. Whenever a team is laying two
points or less, it's a tell of sorts because it's
really meaning it's a pick them. And if that's the
case the dogs, the dogs cover about seventy three percent
(01:45:44):
of the time, and they went out right about sixty
three percent of the time, which is exactly what the
Bears did last night or Thursday night. But and by
the way, Matt Eberflus, some coaches like to win more
than others in preseason. We'll get into this on Saturday night.
Eberflues is now five and one. If that game would
have counted against in the preseason, So we'll get to
that Saturday night. Lot's to cover on the show. We're
(01:46:05):
going to dive heavily into the NFL Saturday night, and
we'll have Bill Krackman Krackenberg around as well as Mark Madina.
We'll talk about the USA Olympic team, all right, the
third time tonight. Last time. I'll say Chris Rock once said,
you don't get a lot of quote for credit for
doing what you're supposed to do well. Steve Kerr has
been handling the Olympic team brilliantly. I think his approach
(01:46:27):
to the rotation is to give players strategic minutes. You
bench certain players based on who he feels could be
taken advantage of. And it's been a sound strategy. But
he's getting criticized because who he's benching. But the approach
is working and the team is getting better. And they
won their first two games by forty points. And I
get that Jason Tatum didn't play in the first game
(01:46:48):
and Joel Embiid was benched in the second game, but
give it up because Kevin Durant is a guy who
has a way the all time leading scorer, men's leading
scorer in Olympic basketball well has a way of bringing
this back to earth. And I loved his perspective because
people think it's ridiculous that a former MVP and a
(01:47:10):
recent champion get bench in the Olympics. But Grant said,
quote last game, we had a champion and an NBA
All NBA guy not playing any minutes, and tonight we
had an MVP not play any minutes, but they didn't complain.
We had guys who stepped up and fiel those roles perfectly.
The idea is to win the game, herm Edwards. You
play to win the game. And Kerr has capably said
(01:47:33):
We're going to leave all the NBA drama back in
the United States, and it's yet to be seen if
Kerr continues this approach of benching certain players to avoid
favorable matchups. And as Kevin said earlier, the thing we're
watching now is not who plays, but who doesn't play,
because it is in fact the story. But I do
think Kevin Durant brought it home ever so nicely. I
(01:47:54):
expect the USA team to cruise against Puerto Rico later
on the morning. It's gonna do it for the Bernie
Frattle Show back on these airwaves Saturday night, eleven pm
Pacific time. We got a lot of stuff to get to,
including mil Tucker's lawsuit. You don't want to hear about that. Meantime,
keep it locked up. Next The Fellas on Fox Sports Radio,
