Speaker 1 (00:01):
I stop from the beginning.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Jonas Knocks, you thought you knew me, You didn't know
anything about me. He's crazier than a else. Rapped that guy,
Jonas Knocks, you heard me?
Speaker 3 (00:12):
You pray in some darkness is lighting up your speakers
to establish an alibi for the day. From the ti
rag dot com Fox Sports Radio Studios, here's Jonas Knocks.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yep, okay, I'll be por.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
You know, this is the time of year where people
get exposed, They get absolutely exposed, and it's not anybody
that's actually playing, it's most of the people discussing it.
We will explain here coming up here in just a
couple of moments. From now Jonas Fox Sports Radio. You

(01:29):
dot com the way tire buying should be. You know
what's great about the NFL preseason? And listen, a lot
of people complain about it. They're trying to phase it
out and get rid of it. And you got people
that go, I don't even want to go to these
So you know, you know which friends of yours are
season ticket holders because the only time they actually offer
up their tickets or when it's August, because they don't
(01:49):
want to go to any of these games, but they
have to buy them to get the season ticket package,
all that stuff. And we can sit here and we
can bury the preseason all we want. Well, nobody takes
it serious. A lot of the stars aren't playing. They
don't even paint some of the end zones. It just
looks too cheap. But doesn't look like real football. It's not,
(02:11):
you know, it's not the same as like a real
And I get all that. You want to go down
that road, you can go down that road all you want.
But here's what's great about the preseason. The stats don't matter,
they really don't. It's all about the look. It's all
about the feel. It's all about the Okay, I see
(02:35):
something there that maybe doesn't show up on the stat sheet,
but I see something there, Like I don't know any
other like historical preseason stat other than the fact that
the Ravens have been pretty dominant in the preseason because
they seem to care more about the preseason than anybody else.
Other than that, I don't know anybody's QBR. I don't
(02:58):
know anybody with like you know how many leads the
preseason and touchdown passes. I don't even know like win
loss record, Like none of it matters. It's all about
the look and all about the feel. So, for example,
if I were to read off a stat line to
you right now, I'm going to read you a stat line.
I'm going to read you a box score, because that's
(03:19):
like another way you can kind of figure out who's
getting exposed during the course of the season. When people
are just reading the box score and you're listening to
like radio or you're watching TV, it's just like, Okay,
this guy's just reading what's on the screen in front
of him or whatever somebody handed to him on a
piece of paper. But I'm going to read you something here,
and I'm going to tell you why none of this matters.
(03:42):
So I'll read you this box score, four of seven
passing ninety five yards, one rushing attempt thirteen yards. If
I read that to you, you go, I mean, whatever,
what It just kinda yeah, okay, cool? And then I go,
(04:07):
that was Caleb Williams' debut and two drives for the Bears,
And you would go, well, I mean, I'm not that impressed.
He's supposed to be the number one pick and this
is why those numbers mean zilch. If you just watched
Caleb Williams in the first two drives of his preseason debut,
his NFL debut, you just watched the throws, you watched
(04:32):
him improvise, you watched him get out of danger in
the pocket. If you just watched, you came away going, oh, yeah,
that's the goods. Yeah he's good. Like it doesn't mean
that next preseason game or the regular season opener against
the Titans, or he's gonna go out and win eight
(04:54):
super Bowls like he's trying to beat Tom Brady. It
doesn't mean any of that. But if we're just looking
at what we've got to work with so far as
far as NFL action goes, and we use the logic
that I use when it comes to the preseason, which
is the stats, the wins and losses don't matter. Really,
(05:14):
they just don't. If you just went by look and feel,
you watched Caleb Williams in his debut against the Bills
earlier today, and you said, yeah, that works, he's good.
Like that works. Whether it was the throw everybody's going
to be talking about where he's rolling to his right
(05:36):
to evade pressure and throws a rope to Cole Comet
for twenty six yards, whether it was the improvising with
the football and thrown across his face as he had
a hand in his face from a Bills defender and
he completed it to DeAndre Swift who took off for
a big like whatever you want to call, whether it
was the play to DJ Moore, whatever you're looking looking at,
(06:00):
the scrambling picking up a first down, the position of
the field that they were at, like all of that
stuff that sort of gets kind of dismissed in the
midst of all the other football conversation and the fantasy
football and all the other Like if you just put
away all of that and you watched the first two
drives of Caleb Williams earlier today. You came away saying
(06:21):
that guy's good and that's all you're looking for. Like
people can like, you know what when you know, didn't
throw a touchdown pass, okay, Like he didn't throw a
touchdown pass, all right, didn't scramble for a touchdown either. Okay,
But that's the benefit of the preseason. Like, that's where
the preseason comes in handy. None of the numbers matter.
(06:46):
You just want to see what you got. It's why, Listen,
I was one of them. Some people were upset that
Kayleb Williams didn't play in the Hall of Fame game.
I'm with you, Like I was on the air here
on Fox Sports Radio telling everybody like listen, man, like
I agree, like I think Caleb william should have played
(07:06):
in the Hall of Fame game. I understand starters haven't
played in a decade when it comes to the Hall
of Fame game. But you know, we wanted to see
because I wanted to see Selfishly, I wanted to see
it because I wanted to see something like that. I
didn't care about the numbers. I didn't care if he
played one drive, dude, I just wanted to see something
so I can have a takeaway from his first appearance.
(07:28):
And the takeaway I got from his first appearance was
that guy's good. Don't forget about the box score, don't
read anything into that. Just watch. We've all seen enough football,
We've all seen enough highlights, Like we know what we're
looking at here, and when you look at Caleb Williams
through two drives, you come away with the same thing
(07:50):
I come away with. He's good. Jonas Knox here, Fox
Sports Radio. All Right, that being said, let's transition over
to us something that is, you know, interestingly enough, kind
of tied into the Caleb Williams situation in Chicago, and
that would be what's happening in Pittsburgh. So the Steelers
(08:13):
last night had a preseason game against the Texans, I
mean whatever, like they that's fine, cool preseason game, this
and that. The big conversation in Pittsburgh is who's gonna
win the starting quarterback job? Because it felt like, all right,
Russell Wilson's going to be the guy, but Justin Fields
was brought in. Both guys have a really workable contract.
(08:33):
They're super cheap, and you've got a capable backup in
Justin Fields if for whatever reason, Russell Wilson falters, or
an injury pops up or anything like that, And wouldn't
you know it, already here we are and Russell Wilson's
been dealing with some sort of an injury. He's slowly
ramping up, and so Justin Fields is beginning to all
the reps, all the reps. And the problem is the
(08:55):
same problem that Justin Fields has had throughout the course
of his career, turnovers like fumbles like this one. When
it comes to what are you watching at? You know,
the stats all Justin Field at a couple of fumbles
quarterback center exchange. Mike Tomlin spoke afterwards and said, listen,
you know, I felt like that negated a lot of
(09:15):
the problems or a lot of the good stuff that
he had. Those are problematic. That's a quarterback center exchange issue.
That is a problem, and it's a problem because that's
been the story of Justin Fields throughout the course of
his career. He will give you amazing highlights stuff that
there is a few people, a handful of people on
(09:36):
planet Earth that have ever done in the NFL and
could do right now walking the face of the earth,
but he'll have these turnovers. And it's why when you
look at you know, Justin Field's career, he's led the
league in fumbles since he's gotten into the NFL by
a wide margin. Like that's always been a problem. And
so Mike Tomlin kept discussing this quarterback competition, in this
(10:00):
quarterback situation, and who's going to get the starting gig,
et cetera, et cetera, And of course he was asked
about it following the game last night. Would you still
categorize us as a quarterback competition? If it is, how
do you wait what happens in the practice field here
versus what happens in the stadium very much is a competition.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
What happens in stadium is weighted heavier than what happens
in a practice setting because it's more game like.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I think it's over. Russell Wilson's going to be the
starting quarterback, And to be honest with you, I think
it's been over for a little while. I think when
they brought Russell Wilson in, they looked at it like
this established guy ton to prove give him a shot,
he's done more in this league. That'll be our guy.
(10:45):
Justin Fields came available, and they thought, okay, sure, why
not Russell Wilson. They wanted him like that was a decision.
They weren't that we would like to make Russell Wilson
our guy, and we're going to sell him on what
we've got here. We're gonna sell him on the idea
of Pittsburgh. We're gonna pair him up with Mike Tomlin.
He's got a lot to prove. People are doubting whether
(11:07):
or not he's still got it. We're gonna bring this
guy in. They wanted him. Justin Fields was like a bonus.
It popped up all of a sudden. You know, Kenny
Pickett's gone. They need a backup quarterback. It's a sixth
round pick. Why not? Yeah, whatever, free roll cool, We'll
do it. And if Russell Wilson gets injured or something
comes up, we can turn to Justin Fields. And he's
(11:29):
won games in the league before. He's got his faults,
like the fumbles, but there's enough there to where you go,
that's a guy who can win some games because he's
done it before in the league. What you saw last
night and The slowness in which Russell Wilson is returning
tells me all I need to know about the quarterback
situation in Pittsburgh. Russell Wilson's a guy. Mike Tomlin knows it.
(11:52):
I think everybody there knows it. Justin Fields has got
a lot of reps. He's gotten a lot of work
with the ones, gotten a lot of work with the
first team in practice, He's getting the start. Like all
of that is great, But I think this goes back
to what this was at the start. They can call
it the competition all they want, but the way that
they obtained Russell Wilson was much different than the way
(12:13):
that they obtained Justin Fields. Russell Wilson they wanted, they sold,
They pursued Justin Fields as a free role. We'll take it.
Why not? Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio, at the

is right here on FSR. We don't need to bring
jonas in.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio coming up and we'll call
it about ten minutes from now from the ten IRAQ
dot com studios. Ye I mean, listen, you wanted him
to be a part of this whole thing in the
world of football. You wanted him to do it, and
now that he's doing it, people aren't happy about it.
(14:13):
We will get into that for you. You will hear from
that individual. We'll coming up here in about ten minutes
from now on FSR. So I do think this is
and look, we're going to have a conversation later on
in this show as well about repeating history and things
like that. But I do think this is kind of funny.
(14:36):
So the Brandon Aiyuk drama, the rumors and reports and
all the other all of that that has taken so
many twists and turns, I can't even keep straight. Like,
I can't tell whether or not they want him in
San Francisco or they don't. I can't tell whether or
(14:57):
not Kyle Shanahan is happy that he's at training camp,
but not because he looks like he's pouting like I
can't I can't keep track of it. I don't know
what's happening. All I know is that the forty nine
Ers now reportedly are trying to work on a long
(15:21):
term deal. And if it's not the forty nine Ers,
it'll be the Steelers that will step in that that
could be another possibility. And apparently Brandon Ayuk is negotiating
with teams to get a long term deal done and
that's the way that you are able to pull the
trade off. And like there's so many, but like the
(15:42):
latest one in regards to potential trades elsewhere is my
favorite one because somebody has done it yet again. So
apparently Brandon Ayuk could have been a Cleveland Brown that
was I mean, if you believe this report again, we're
(16:05):
going with what we got here, and what we've got
is a report that has come out that Brandon Ayuk.
A trade was agreed to between the Browns and the
forty nine Ers that would have sent Brandon Ayuk to
Cleveland and in exchange, there would have been a couple
of draft picks and a Mari Cooper would have gone
(16:25):
to San Francisco. Now everybody's looking at this from the
Brandon Ayuke side, because reportedly Brandon Ayuk vetoed the trade
because Cleveland wasn't one of his preferred destinations. So a
lot of people look at that and go, oh my god.
So the brand and Ayuk side is the real interesting
(16:47):
part of that. I look at it from the Cleveland
side and I go, Nope, that's more interesting. And here's why.
Because a Mari Cooper who hasn't said a word his
entire time in the NFL, not that I've heard. I
swear to god, if you played three sound bites and
(17:07):
asked me to guess which one was Amari Cooper, I
wouldn't be able to do it. I don't know what
the guy sounds like. I swear to god, I have
no idea, but I literally no clue. He went to
Instagram and apparently posted some photo that said I wouldn't
(17:28):
mind that at all or something like that. Now, again,
this could be maybe he was somebody broke into his account,
maybe it was AI. But let's just go ahead and
assume Amari Cooper posted I wouldn't mind that at all? Okay,
And let's assume that he was referring to a possible
trade to the forty nine ers, So you mean to
(17:52):
tell me the Cleveland Browns, who ended up having to
overpay for their starting quarterback because they alienated one of
their starting players, one of their better players, by letting
a trade possibility get public, has now done it yet
(18:14):
again and might have done the same thing yet again
to Amari Cooper, Because if you're a MARII Cooper, are
you not looking around going hold on a second, So
we just agreed to a rework deal. You guys give
me a little bit of a bump and a raise,
and now I'm part of a trade package that you
were trying to pull off, but the other guy vetoed it,
and so now you're bringing me back just because that
(18:36):
guy vetoed the trade. If you're a Mari Cooper, are
you're not looking around at the Browns going, what the
f all I've done amidst dysfunction and everything else to
come along with it is produce And now I'm being
thrown in a trade package and I got to hear
about this on. If you're a Mari Cooper, are you
(18:57):
not upset about this? And by the way, doesn't this
seem kind of familiar? Doesn't this sound familiar? Brown's alienate
starting player on roster by flirting with somebody else, thus
(19:17):
destroying relationship with said player. Oh, that's right. They did
the same thing to Baker Mayfield. Oh I was. Oh,
that's why this sounds familiar, because the Browns did the
exact same thing. You remember that. Why do you think
they had to overpay for Deshaun Watson? Why do you
(19:39):
think they had to give him an historic contract of
two hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed? Do you know why?
Because they burned the bridge with Baker Mayfield when they
let it get public that they were in conversation and
trying to pursue Deshaun Watson. They were one of the
four teams. In fact, if you remember correctly, the Atlanta Falcons,
(20:04):
where the team Deshaun Watson was going to go to.
So much so he already had a jersey with his
name on it in his possession in Atlanta Falcons jersey.
How do we know that because when he finally posted
something on his Instagram, it might have been his Browns jersey.
What did you see in the background on his foosball table?
(20:28):
A number four Deshaun Watson Falcons jersey. The deal what's
already done. And the Browns got so desperate because Baker
Mayfield went public and said, I don't want to be
here anymore since this is how they feel about me,
that they're interested in somebody else, I don't want to
be here anymore. He made a stink about it, he
went public, and the Browns panicked, Uh, oh, can't go
(20:50):
back to that one. Better over pay for DeShawn or else.
We've gotten no fix at quarterback and we've got no solution.
And that's why they went and outbid the Atlanta Falcons,
then the Carolina Panthers and whoever else was in the
conversation with Deshaun Watson at the time. That's why. Because
the Browns burned the bridge and had no fix afterwards,
(21:16):
you would think, oh, you know, lesson learned, you know,
don't let this stuff get public, and yet here we are.
Why why do this? Like you got a guy who
hasn't said a word since he was like what eighteen maybe,
(21:38):
who's now going on Instagram saying all right, I wouldn't
mind that at all. Cool now, I know, Like, it
boggles my mind when this stuff goes public and there's
other people involved that have not like everyone's talking about
the Brandon Ayuk side of this, like we've like, listen,
Brandon Ayuk, we know what's going on. This has played
(22:00):
out very public. A lot of these forty nine ers
deals end up doing that. Brandon Aiyuks made this public.
He's gone on podcasts, he's talked about the Commanders, he's
talked about everybody else. The one guy that catches a
strain all this is a Marii Cooper. He hasn't set
a damn thing in a decade, and he's got to
run to social media because the same team that burned
(22:22):
the bridge with Baker Mayfield may have just done it
with their best wide receiver. What the F I don't
get it. I don't understand. And then here we are, okay,
so now what Amari Cooper's got to show back up
and be like, hey, guys, stoke to be here, you
stoke to have me upon finding out, yeah, listen, we
(22:42):
were you know, get included in a trade package of
somebody else. Sorry about that blows my mind. But again,
thus the Cleveland Browns, that's the way the wheel turns,
especially in Cleveland. Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio. By

going to hear from somebody who's just being themselves. I mean,
they're just they're acting like themselves, and apparently people in
the world of football have a problem with it. We
will get into that for you here on FSR, but
for all the latest, it's Nicko.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
All right, Jonas Well, I'm gonna do that thing here
that you touched on at the top of the show,
reading some stats in the preseason for rookie quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Go they're wrong with it? Now, that's for listen. That's fine.
It's when people try to base their only evaluations on
people in the preseason based on stats, you know, I mean,
come on, can't just read the box score and go,
oh well, he's good or he's not good. Like you know,
we know what we watched.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Yeah, well Jade and Daniels and Caleb Williams abbreviated opportunities today,
but they did look the part you mentioned Williams at
the top of the show. A couple of drives for
the Bears four of seven ninety five yards passing, added
a thirteen yard rush in there, no touchdowns, no picks.
Jaden Daniels for the Commanders, just played the one drive,
the opening drive he threw for forty five yards, had
(24:23):
a deep throw, captain with a three yard touchdown rush.
Let's go to the Olympics. USA Women's soccer they're back
on top. The Americans beat Brazil one to nothing in
the gold medal match, winning their fifth Olympic gold in
their first since London in twenty twelve. It was Mallory
Swanson who scored the goal early in the second half,
giving the US all they would need. USA Men's basketball,
(24:45):
they are going for gold just about an hour from
now at three thirty Eastern time, taking on hosts France.
The Americans, trying to win their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal,
had the bronze medal game earlier today, Serbia beat Germany.
On the track, American missae I Russell won gold in
the women's one hundred meter hurdles by a one to
one hundredth of a second, very tight race. Baseball one
(25:07):
game going on, Yankees lead the Rangers three to nothing
in the bottom of the fourth the Yankee Stadium. They're
playing a double header today and finally Jonas just to
go back to the Olympics. Really interesting story. So Jordan Chiles,
the US gymnast, she may have to return her bronze
medal from the individual floor exercise.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Did you catch this on Monday at all?
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I wish you on pedes?
Speaker 3 (25:30):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
No, okay.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
So she was last to go on the floor exercise
and she was placed in fifth. The US submitted an
inquiry and because they didn't think the difficulty score was
attributed right, and so as this Romanian gymnast is celebrating
getting bronze, the inquiry gets reviewed in the judges award
(25:52):
an extra tenth of a point to Chiles that vaults
her into the bronze medal spot and Chiles wins the bronze.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
So all week Romania has been.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
Furious about this there's talks of them boycotting the closing ceremonies.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
They've submitted appeals. So today the Court of Arbitration for Sport,
this is in Switzerland, they ruled today that the judging
panel improperly granted that inquiry from the US that moved
Childs into third place. The court said the inquiry was
submitted past the one minute deadline. So get this, Jonas.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
The US submitted that inquiry sixty four seconds after the
end of the routine. Apparently it was four seconds late,
so that inquiry should not have been allowed. In that
the original finishing order that had Child's in fifth behind
a couple of Romanian gymnasts, that finishing order should be reinstated.
So what this is five days later, just an absolute
(26:49):
mess right there.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
You know, here's the pro So Childs didn't get the awards,
like they didn't play, They didn't. She wasn't on the podium, right,
she didn't, not initially or she did.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
She did, They did the inquiry and then she celebrates
and you've got the picture files was silver and Chiles
was bronze, and there was a Brazilian gymnast who had gold.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
They did all of that. She's got the medal in
her possession. Here's my problem with this. I want the pageantry.
I want everything else. It's like when Lance Armstrong got
popped because he pissed hot because he was on the gas,
and they went and did an inquiry and they found
out that like the first sixteen or seventeen writers in
(27:29):
order the Tour de France were all on the gas
and all pissed hot. So then they called up the
eighteenth guy and were like, hey, man, congratulations, you want
the Tour de France. That's cool and all, and technically
you can say that, but unless I'm on the podium
and celebrating the actual trial, like I want the belt
wrapped around my waist, I want the trophy hell high.
(27:49):
I want to stand on stage for them to come
back afterwards and be like, upon further review, guess what
you actually did. That kind of sucks. And maybe that's
a little douchey of me, I mean, a little bit
too divisho at me, But I want everything that comes
along with all that. Like you know when a Kentucky
Derby horse, you know, they find out he was on
the gas too, and then they give it to another horse, like, well,
(28:12):
what happens to those roses? Do I get that in
front of one hundred thousand people like that horse got
to me that that part sucks about all of it. So,
you know, well that's a bummer. I mean, does how
many how many medals do childs have? Well, she's got right, Yeah,
she's got a few.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
She of course gets the gets the team gold that
they got as well. But as far as individual that
was a big deal for her to get that bronze medal. Well,
I mean, you know, I mean, what do you do
if your child? So, I mean, she's back in the States,
she's got the bronze medal, Come get it.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Okay, Well, here's a piece of advice. There is a
trophy shop that I had the fantasy football league I'm in.
I had our I had to get engraved last year
because we had to update it. We were like three
years late, so we had to get it upgraded, and
so I got it engraved. They do great work. So
if she wanted to, you could go get a fake
(29:08):
bronze medal, get it done there, send it off to
Romania or wherever the hell it is, and then just
keep the actual one. And let's two complay this game, Like,
if we really want to nitpick about this stuff, then
we'll do it that way. So send her a fake
bronze medal. It's probably not going to know the difference,
and let her think today I've got the real one. Meanwhile,
she holds onto the secret and the metal and everybody goes,
(29:31):
I'm happy, what do you think of that? I'm on board? Okay,
So there it is. Problem solved. So if you need
any fixing for the Olympics in any of this, I mean,
Nick and I can't help with like the crap water
that everybody's swimming in, but we can't help with figuring
out this metal count for everybody involved. So that problem solved.
We are taken care of that. Jonas Knox here Fox
Sports Radio. By the way, we are going to have
(29:52):
another edition of Do You Care coming up here in
about ten minutes from now. I do want to just
play you a little something here, because apparently people are
not thrilled. They are not thrilled whatsoever with one Dion Sanders,
who had a nice little back and forth yesterday at
his press conference, and apparently he's not real thrilled with
CBS for some reason. Would you still.
Speaker 7 (30:15):
Categorize Eric Kristensen with CBS Sports Colorado Tyler.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
I'm not doing none with CBS. Next question with you,
it is above that. I HA got none to do
with you. I got love for you. I appreciate respect you.
HA got none to do with you. They know what
they did. I'm here at Deadver, not National. You are
who you are, CBS, the CBS, all right, I respect you.
That's why I told you that. I'm looking at you
and now as a man. I respect you. I got
(30:43):
love for you. But what they did was foul.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
People aren't happy about that. Dion Sanders is catching it
from all angles. He gets upset, wants to be protected
in press conferences. If somebody does their job, he calls him.
He wants it. So you mean to tell me the
guy whose nickname is Prime, who made a career out
(31:10):
of doing it the way that he wants to do it,
out of letting you know if you say something he
doesn't like, he's going to address it. Whether it's Tim
McCarver and dumping water on his head or throwing down
with Andre Risen on the field, or doing the high
step or doing rap videos or do it like whatever.
Like he's done it the way he wants to do
(31:31):
it his entire career. So you mean to tell me
that same guy is doing the same thing as a
coach and people have a problem with it. Dude, what
did you sign up for? This is the prime experience.
This is Dion Sanders to a t like, this is
(31:52):
what he did. Like, listen, are there gonna be some flaws,
some faults. He's going to lose some games. They're in
a more difficult conference, all of course, But at the
same time, don't get sensitive and don't get your feelings
hurt when the guy that you brought in because he
was that same guy and we were all excited about it,
is acting the same way as if you brought him in.
(32:14):
That's who he is. Like, that's what Dion said. He
does it his way. It's not going to look the same.
He's not going to give you a bunch of canned answers.
He's not going to give you a bunch of coach
speak and everything else that comes along with it. No,
he's going to do it the way he wants to
do it. And I got news for you. It's been
pretty successful for him. It has worked. His way has worked,
(32:39):
and you can try and sit here and talk about
the win loss record and how Colorado finished the season.
And look, there's a lot of people that are going
to be rooting against Deon Sanders because they don't like
that he did it a different way. A lot of
coaches have spoken about it. He's spoken and talked back
to a lot of coaches. But this is the way
that he's done it, and this is the way he's
going to continue to do it. What did you do
(33:00):
you expect him to do? Although answer your question, PLA, No,
he's got a problem. He's gonna speak on it, and
he said it to that guy. Listen, this is not
against you. I've got love for you. It's against CBS.
I mean, we want somebody to be who they are,
and we bring them on because of who they are,
and then when they act the same way in a
different role, we're like no, no, no, no, we're not We're
(33:21):
not good with this. Like, if if you had a
problem with Dion Sanders possibly going down this road, you
should have done your history on Dion Sanders. He's gonna
call like it is, He's gonna give his opinion whether
you like it or not. Jonas Knox here Fox Sports
Radio at the Jonas Knox on X Coming up next
year though, from the tire rack dot Com studios, we
are going to have another edition of Do You Care
(33:42):
right here on FSR Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio coming
up top of next hour. We will call it a
little over twelve minutes from now from the tire rack
dot Com studios. We're gonna find out whether or not. Actually,
I'll tell you this right now. I saw it firsthand,
first hand ex aperience of apparently people that are that
(34:03):
are ready to do it again. They're ready to walk
down that aisle, They're ready to say I do yet
again in the world of sports. We will get into
that for you again top of next hour a little
over twelve minutes from now. A reminder though, that shortly
after the show, our podcast will be going up, so
if you've missed any of it, be sure to check
out the pod. You can search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcasts. Be sure to also follow, rate
(34:24):
and review it again. Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever
you get your podcasts. You'll see this show posted right
after we get off the air.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
There are so many stories in the world of sports,
and most of them are a complete waste of time,
DMZ reports.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Let's get kinky.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
Here's some of the big stories from the last week.
But Jonas, the real question is do you care?
Speaker 2 (34:48):
And for that we turn it over to our executive
producer Bo Benson to find out what the hell we've
missed so far in the show bow and what people
have been talking about all during the week, which, by
the way, Bo, sorry to start off so awkwardly, but
are you wearing your Caleb Wade jersey right now?
Speaker 8 (35:01):
Chris pet would kill me. He would reach across the
table and he would kill me. So yeah, I would
have at least three different reasons to do so we
might see, might see it make its debut week one.
I don't know, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Okay, yeah, fair enough, And you waited seven and a
half years for it. At least you could do it
like throw it on. I know, I know bastards so in.
Speaker 7 (35:21):
A boh hasn't been a Bears fan for seven and
a half years. No, but it took that to get here.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
It took him a long time, Like he ordered that
pretty early and he was wait free cog. I see, yeah,
you could have had that thing made up. I think
in December. Yeah, big, big wide receiver news for the
New England Patriots this week as they they released wide
receiver Juju Smith Schuster. So, Jonas, do you care? Not
really what I care? Like that one always seemed awkward
(35:49):
because he never really told like he was dealing with
some sort of an injury, and it like just never
really took off. And then like he's still he got
a long term I guess long term three year deal
from the Patriots. But I always looked at Juju Smith
Schuster as an example of that's exactly why if you're
a wide receiver and you're looking to get a deal,
(36:11):
just go take a one year deal with the Chiefs
and let Patrick Mahomes get you paid. Because that's exactly
what he did. He ended up getting a three year deal,
and then when he showed up he might have been
damaged goods based on how his knee was responding in
training camp and all that. But he went got a
Super Bowl, then went to New England, got an extension,
got a three year deal, and then it turned out
that well listen, upon further review, not exactly what we
(36:34):
thought we bought.
Speaker 8 (36:34):
Next, Charles Barkley said that he will not retire and
he's going to remain at T and T Sports throughout
the remainder of his contract. So Jonas, do you care?
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Yes? And by the way, I'm an idiot because I
didn't even think about this possibility. Just because the end
the TNT doesn't have the NBA package doesn't mean that
that show has to go away, Like we don't need
the NBA games for that show to exist. You don't like,
find out when the games are throw on your your show, pregame, postgame,
(37:06):
whatever the time slot's gonna be, and just let it fly.
Do what you guys do. That's what everybody cares about.
Let's go live TU. I have a thought on the
NBA on TNT contract discussion insider Christ Prophet for the
latest Chris, why lemming yourself.
Speaker 7 (37:18):
To just the the NBA. If you're Charles Barkley and TNT,
let's let's do all sports. Yeah thoughts? One on football?
Speaker 8 (37:27):
Can we please just let Chuck and Shack talk about
the NFL every week?
Speaker 7 (37:30):
Can we Doone's like, Oh, they're NBA guys, what will
they know? I mean, their their NBA opinions are already half baked. Anyway,
I don't care if they're informed or not. I just
want to hear those two talk.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Just do the show surrounding the talent and let them
figure it out. They will be fine regardless.
Speaker 8 (37:45):
Next, Jim Harbaugh will be an honorary captain for Michigan's
home opener I believe against Fresno State on August thirty first.
So Jonas, do you care?
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (37:56):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
I love it. This is so awesome, just the fact
that Michigan and Jim Harbaugh, like, you know what NCAA
f you, You can kiss our ass. We will do
things the way we please here in n Arbor. And
not only this guy that supposedly has now been punished
again by the NCAAA but he reads a prepared statement
and doesn't know anything about it. Not only do we
(38:19):
not have a response to that, we are going to
defiantly bring him back and make him an honorary captain
just to throw it in your face. Good for Michigan,
good for Jim Harbaugh.
Speaker 8 (38:31):
Next, Eagles defensive back Cooper dejen received a prank call
during the draft telling him that he'd been drafted by
the Green Bay Packers Iowa, Sam, I would like to
see your phone, Jonas, do you care.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Yeah, kind of. I mean, this is ridiculous, like this
you remember that, Like, I can't believe that crank calls
still exist. I thought caller ID would have eliminated all
of that because it used to be back in the day,
like you wouldn't know who would call. It would just
be a surprise, and then you would answer the phone,
you go hello, and if it was somebody you didn't
want to talk to, be like, oh god, there goes
a half hour. But like now it's like you got
caller ID, they'll tell you if it's spam calling, they'll
(39:10):
tell you. Like now you know, And the fact that
this still somewhat exists to me kind of brings a
smile to my face.
Speaker 8 (39:17):
Next Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins would have reportedly looked more
closely at signing with the Vikings for one year had
he known the Falcons plan on taking quarterback Jonas.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Do you care? Yeah? Like listend man, like and that's
the way I like it. There is no two ways
about this. Kirk Cousins did not know what he was
signing up for in Atlanta. He did not know. He
thought everything was on the up and up. He thought
that the Atlanta Falcons had a plan. He thought that
(39:49):
he was going to go there. His wife's family's from there,
and that was going to be where he finished his career,
and everything was going to be all good, and there's
a ton of talent there and opportunities to get better
with a high draft pick. And then the Falcons went
and took a quarterback, And now Kirk Cousins is looking around,
going all right. I thought that this was going to
(40:10):
be a different setup. I thought this was going to
be a different situation, and I just wonder whether or
not Arthur Blank was on board with it.
Speaker 8 (40:16):
Next, the Borderlands movie opened on Friday to a four
million dollar total haul, reportedly has a budget of over
one hundred million dollars.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
So, Jonas, do you care?
Speaker 4 (40:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (40:26):
God, no, Like, what are the board?
Speaker 8 (40:29):
Nobody else cares about our lines.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
It's a video game.
Speaker 8 (40:31):
It's a video game movie.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Yeah, I mean, enough's enough. Like if people want video
game movies, like just go play video games and pretend
you're in a movie. Can't we just do that? Didn't
that solve the problem? You know? Apparently somebody's gonna walk
down the aisle yet again, they're gonna say I do
yet again, I saw it. I witnessed it firsthand. I'll
(40:53):
tell you why that is coming up here in just
a couple of moments from now, Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio.
You can listen to this show as always on the
iHeartRadio app. You can find us on hundreds of affiliates
all across the country and wherever you are making us
a part of your Saturday afternoon, we appreciate you doing so.
We are going to take you all the way up
(41:14):
until the end of this hour four pm Eastern time,
one o'clock Pacific, and as always, we do it live
from the ti Raq dot com studios. Tire rack dot
com will help you get there, an unmatched selection, fast
free shipping, free road has a protection and over ten
thousand recommended installers. Tire rac dot com the way tire
buying should be. So we were discussing the preseason debut
(41:41):
of Caleb Williams earlier. Now, if you have seen any
of the highlights, they're already starting to go viral. Some
of the throws, the improvisation, some of the spectacular plays
that he's capable of, which is all stuff that everybody
sort of expected you would see at some point But
(42:01):
my point earlier in the show talking about this was
you don't come away from preseason games, especially when it's
involving rookie quarterbacks, and go, all right, what are the stats.
It's about what's the capability. And you can see the
capability of Caleb Williams, and you can see that it's
a guy who has got all the physical talents. I
(42:24):
mean he's not like a big guy, but you can
see the physical talents from the arm, him escaping the pocket,
just sort of his poise, like all that stuff that
you look at and you go, all right, that's the goods.
So my takeaway from it was I don't care the
guy was four of seven. I don't care that he
threw for ninety five yards, that he had one rushing
attempt for thirteen yards. I don't care about any of
(42:45):
that stuff. Look Jayden Daniels, who has kind of gotten
overlooked because everybody's been wanting to see what Caleb Williams
is going to do. Jayden Daniels in his preseason game
against the Jets, he was two of three, four something yards,
had a rushing touchdown. You look at that and you
go small sample size. But his first completion was a
perfect throw. So it's like you don't need to see
(43:09):
the stats jump off the charts. And a perfect example
of this Dak Prescott's first preseason game. I could still
remember it because it was against the Rams and it
was at the Old Coliseum and so you had a
bunch of cowboy fans there and everyone was like, well,
what is this going to look like. Tony Romo's injured,
(43:33):
Dak Prescott's getting the start. What does it look like
when Dak Prescott is going to be the guy. And
so Dak Prescott went out there and one of his
first completions was a perfect throw back of the end zone.
Might have been Des Bryant, and I remember seeing that
going Okay, that looked good, like that seems like a
guy who can play, And so you don't look at
(43:54):
the eye and I don't know what the stats were.
I just saw the throw and I thought, okay, that
makes some sense. Now you know why some people are
optimistic about if they need to go to him, barring
if something comes up and injury anything like that, if
they need to go to Dak Prescott, they can do it.
And they ended up having to go to him, And
now Dak Prescott has been had a great career and
(44:15):
he's looking at another monster contract. But I look at
Caleb Williams and I'm like, all right, So Caleb Williams,
Jaden Daniels, all those guys, like, I don't care what
the numbers are, just can they play? Do you see
enough from them playmaking wise that you go okay? That
could translate? And to me, I came away from Caleb
Williams first couple of series in the NFL and his
(44:37):
preseason debut earlier against the Bills, and I go, Okay,
that guy can play. I get it now. I see
what people have been talking about, and now I see
why Bear fans are optimistic. And then I realize, oh
wait a second, this is just kind of what they're doing.
Like I spent the week past several days, I was
not on the morning show Two Pros and a Cup
(44:59):
of Joe with the hell's their name? It's that guy's name,
Lamar Lamb Latrelle all LaVar with LaVar Arrington and what
the f is that other guy's name for bro Brand?
(45:24):
What her last name Quinn point is? I was not
on the show with those guys this week. I took
a vacation, little vacation before football season, spent time with
the family. We went to Chicago and so did the
whole family thing, went to Navy Pier, did all the
fun stuff, went to a couple of Cubs games, like
you know, just family stuff. One thing I can tell
you for sure walking around Chicago, they are all in
(45:47):
on Caleb Williams, just like they were all in on
Justin Fields, just like some people were all in on
Mitch Trubisky, just like some people were all in on
Rex Grossman, just like people were all in on You
name the starting quarterback that's been a Bear, starting quarterback
that was the next Savior, Jay Huttler when they made
(46:09):
the trade form cade McNown you name it in certain
name of Bear's quarterback, and they are all in. And
I look at it. I go again, like this is
happening again. And I know that there's some people out
there that you just want to laugh at the doom
(46:31):
and gloom of the Bears and their failure to find
a quarterback. But I actually do kind of admire it.
It's like a person who gets married over and over
and over again. Like at a certain point when you
say I do that many times, and you have that
many weddings, when do you get to the point when
you're walking down the aisle again or waiting for your
(46:54):
better half to walk down the aisle. When do you
get to the point where you're like, I'm doing this again,
Like I'm actually like I'm doing it again, And I
just wonder if this doesn't work, because the Bears have
tried everything else. If this doesn't work, then what.
Speaker 5 (47:17):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (47:17):
They have tried every sort of combination or transaction to
try and find their next franchise quarterback. They've tried everything
and nothing has worked. And it's not that they haven't
had good quarterback play at times. They have. Jay Cutler
(47:39):
was much better than people gave him credit for. And
I think Bears fans would tell you that. You know,
upon further review, you probably should have appreciated that one
a little bit more. You think Mitch Trubisky's numbers are
much better than what a lot of people want to Remember,
they did win a lot of games with him. I
know it's the same draft as Patrick Mahomes, I get
all that, but they did win a lot of games
(47:59):
with the They went to a super Bowl with Rex Grossman.
It's not like he played awful the whole year and
he just ended up in the no listen to me
Like the guy did have some moments. Eric Kramer had
some moments. Cade McNown had a couple of games where
I was like, Wow, this guy can really play. Kyle Lorton,
Justin Fields had some moments. There was a real discussion.
(48:20):
There was Bears fans who didn't want them to draft
Caleb Williams. They wanted to keep Justin Fields and trade
that for picks. That happened. I remember it. That happened.
But I look at the situation. I go, Okay, if
this doesn't work, then what do you do? Because at
a certain point, when you're saying I do this many
(48:41):
times and none of them have worked, what's the plan?
Because I know a couple of people in my life
who have been married multiple times, I can assure you
on the outside, there might be a couple of us
that are taking bets on how long this one lasts. Okay,
all right, Hey, what do you get him this time?
Same thing I got him last time, which is nothing?
(49:03):
Why is that? Because the first time I got him
something and they divorced about a year later. That's why.
So I'm just wondering, now, what do you do because
if this one doesn't work, you've tried everything as a franchise.
Everything they've drafted in the first round, it's not worked.
(49:25):
And again, this is not all on the quarterback. Like
there needs help, Caleb Williams needs help. Everybody needs help.
This is not all on the quarterback. So you can't
just sit here and go bust bust. But because it's
such a lazy term, there's a bust. This guy's a
button elk. Stop organizational failure. Right, it's everybody, it's not
just the quarterback. So if you're just looking at the
(49:48):
situation as a whole, as an organization, You've tried everything
you've drafted in the first round before hasn't worked. You've
turned to mi round picks before, hasn't worked. You've signed
free agent quarterbacks before, hasn't worked. You've traded multiple picks
(50:11):
for a quarterback before, hasn't worked. You've tried everything. Now
you get a guy number one. Overall, everything literally fell
into place for the Bears. Everything they traded away the
first round pick, their number one pick last year, which,
by the way, everybody can say, who sigh of relief?
(50:31):
Because Bryce Young hasn't worked out so far. First of all,
Bryce Young's in the worst situation in the NFL. The
Carolina Panthers are a diaper fire. They can't even get
their team playing to land correctly. Okay, so let's call
what it is, all right. They are awful, worst position
in the NFL. I'm not blaming Bryce Young for a
damn thing. But if we want to sit here and
point fingers and say wha, thank god they didn't take
(50:52):
Bryce Young number one overall. Okay, but CJ. Stroud was
sitting there too, so could have had him. Didn't, so
they traded that away, ended up with DJ Moore who
was a stud, and multiple picks which turned out to
fall into their lap as the number one pick the
following year, Everything landed in their lap perfectly, even after
(51:19):
they got Caleb Williams. Roman Dunza was just sitting there
because Atlanta got aggressive and just sitting there. Of course
we're gonna take him. Yes, this is after Keenan Allen
and Cole Comet and Gerald Leverett, like DeAndre Swift, like
they've added so much, like everything has fallen into their lap.
(51:40):
If this one too doesn't work, then what do you do?
Because at some point you can't keep saying I do,
because while you're saying I do two thousand times in
a row, somebody above you is saying I don't two
thousand and one times. And I just want to know
if this falls apart, what the hell is Chicago going
(52:03):
to do? Because I was just there and they are
all in in love yet again with the brand new
franchise quarterback. He's the guy, He's the flavor of the year.
If this doesn't work out, then what do we got?
Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio at the Jonas Knocks
on X. That is at the Jonas Knocks On X
by the way, a lot of positive feedback here on
(52:24):
the show. Brian writes in, you can get back to
the fetal position, bawling like the bleep gobbler you are
because your bleep beloved Olympics are finally ending. Now all
the bleeps like Joni have to wait for the bleep
winner Olympics. You bleep. Derek writes in, Now while emptying
(52:52):
your bleep to bleep Williams, you can go get your purse,
paint your nails, and go to the Max Store for makeup,
just like him. Too, you bleep. Aaron writes in hey, Jonas,
just like I should play the video game Borderland, then
(53:15):
go to the Borderland movie, I should probably read an
old sports newspaper then listen to your sorry Saturday sports takes. Thanks.
Paul writes in Judas the woke bleep social justice warrior.
Put on your COVID mask and keep being the COVID
(53:39):
enforcer and outraged you are about athletes like Norman Leisol
competing like the soy boy bleep you are. Danny writes
in look, the little blie boy is back with cold takes.
(54:03):
Go back on vacation, douche. The Judas Knox writes in
welcome back, short Stack. I'm shocked you could get past
the A block with so much NFL quarterback Puzso on
the TVs. Maybe it's time to get back on the board,
you bitch. At the Jonas knocks on X. That is,
(54:28):
at the Jonas knocks on X, where you can find
all the positive feedback and upbeat attitudes and personalities here
on social media as we dazzle them all with sports
talk on a Saturday afternoon coming up next here though,
from the ti raq dot com studios, somebody else catching
(54:49):
a lot of shade, a lot of shade in the NFL,
and I would say it's borderline disrespectful. We'll explain what
that is here on FSR. Jonas is count It Today,
Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio coming up a little over
ten minutes from now from the ti Raq dot Com studios.
(55:09):
I wonder if there's a little bit of jealousy in
the NFL right now because somebody's getting beat at their
own game. We'll explain why that is again a little
over ten minutes from now. Somebody did tweet in and
ask if they heard a live dump button on the air. Yes,
you did. Look some of these tweets that are sent in.
I do my best to edit them and try and
(55:31):
read them as much as possible, and occasionally sometimes there'll
be a slip, you know, they'll be yeah, you know,
it happens. There's a lot. There's more today than I
think we've gotten in quite some time. Every time, I
think people have finally accepted the fact that this is
just what the show is. You know, they're just going
(55:51):
to go ahead and either like it or just not listen.
People like to hate listen to it, and they like
to let it fly, and I thought that we had
started to see the beginning of the end of all that,
and apparently not. People are still letting it fly, and
they did earlier so much so that we had to
dump a portion of it because we did not want
to lose our jobs. So there is all of that,
(56:15):
all right. So I did want to get into this
discussion here because speaking of shade, Look, we get shade
on this show, and I think it's hilarious. Personally, I
don't take any of it. Personally, I don't get offended
by any of it. I think most of it is hilarious,
and if you don't, that's your problem, not mine. But
(56:35):
somebody did get some shade last night in the National
Football League that was a member of the chain gang.
Now you're wondering why the chain gang is still a
topic of conversation, Well, because the NFL is still using
it so much so that Jerry Sandusky, no, not that
Jerry Sandusky, the Ravens play by play man, been doing
(56:55):
it a long time. He was not thrilled with the
fact that we were still rolling out some chains to
measure whether or not there was a first down. And
last night's Ravens Eagles game, and he had this to stay.
As you look at the replay, think about this.
Speaker 9 (57:11):
We have the technology to put a GPS tracker on mars,
but we still use a bunch of older guys on
the sideline with sticks to measure whether at a ball
carry I got a first down.
Speaker 2 (57:24):
Or not nothing I got the older guys with sticks,
but at an age of wild up high tech data metrics.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Let's say, stretched out the sticks the shore.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
All right, we got it by half of football. It
just seems absurd that in a game.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
Where they met GPS trackers on players shoulder pads, they
have nineteen different levels of algorithms to measure everything. In
the NFL, we still use guys with glasses who are
no longer what you called physically fit, trotting out a
pair of sticks to measure first down.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
Thats been uncalled for. Look, I'll just say this because
Jerry did go on to social media and you know,
I kind of apologized, not really though, but went on
to social media and kind of, you know, took back
what he said. He was not meaning to be you know,
disrespectful or to you know, call out anybody in the
(58:25):
way that he did. But the fact of the matter
is that he did and he shouldn't have. But this
is my point on this whole discussion about the chain gang.
All right, and some people think I'm being sarcastic when
I say this, I'm absolutely not. I understand that we
have got the technology to do things in the NFL
(58:47):
that have not been done. I get all that me personally,
call me old fashioned. I like the chain gang, I do.
I like the fact that, yes, you have some guys
who are out there work king probably making a small
amount of money, that are measuring the distance of a
first down and whether or not a first down has
been picked up in the NFL. I like that. Now.
(59:09):
I don't know whether or not anybody had clued Jerry
into the fact that there's this thing called the Sony
Hawkeye system, which, by the way, is that a play
on Tony Hawk now that I think about it. But
whatever point is, they're going to be implementing this into
some preseason games this year. The thought is that they
may roll this out for next year was the latest
(59:30):
that I heard. Maybe they'll try and incorporate it this year.
But that being said, while everybody's focused on what the
new kickoff looks like, and that looks weird. This is
something that the NFL has considered and at least looked at,
and from a technology standpoint, it does make some sense.
Call me old fashioned again. I like the chain gang.
(59:51):
I like the fact that those guys walk out And
Brady Quinn and I disagreed on this last week we
had this discussion. I said, no, man, I'm a fan
of it. Like I'm old school. I like the fact
that a guy walks out with a big pole and
a chain on the bottom, and the other guy has
the other one, and we get to measure to see
old fashioned, old school, whether or not a first down
(01:00:12):
has been picked up. I like that like I do
like I don't need everything to be completely innovated with technology.
You know what. I what I'm a big fan of
as well too, holding an actual menu in my hand.
I'm sick of going to a place and having to
scan my phone so you can get my information and
access to my photos, just so I can see what
(01:00:34):
the specials are today. Enough's enough. You don't have to
tech everything up. I can understand. Listen, the modern cell phone,
what a glorious invention. It is awesome. Yeah, it's got
some stepbacks and people have you know, they can get
whatever information they want on you, and all that sucks.
But the point is you can do things from your
(01:00:55):
phone that you've never been able to do before. It
is a computer in your pocket at all times. It
does everything. It's awesome. But it's okay to rely on
the oldies from time to time. It's okay, nothing wrong
with it. I like to hold an actual menu in
my hand. I like the fact that a guy is
gonna walk out with a chain and tell me whether
(01:01:15):
or not there's a first down.
Speaker 7 (01:01:16):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
My favorite part about the Chain Gang is you did.
My favorite part is when they you think, because they've
got the camera pinned on the football and you see
that the post come out, you see him sitting there
and you go, oh god, I think he's I think
he's uh, he's got the first down. It looks like
a first down. And then all of a sudden they
(01:01:38):
extend at the rest of the way and you find
out the guy's a half yard short. Oh my god,
the ball's a half yard short. The pageantry, the presentation,
the drama. It's like waiting for the final score after
the end of a fight, you know, like yeah, sometimes
scoring's bad. You know, sometimes these fights you're like, what
(01:01:59):
is that watching? But there's something about the drama because
everybody like there's been this discussion. Now what about open scoring?
Like they tried this years ago in Mexico. There was
a boxing event years ago they did open scoring. The WBC,
which is a sanctioning body, they didn't open scoring and
in Mexico to where after each round they would read
(01:02:21):
the score of the judge's cards, and I was like, man,
that's awesome. At least you know where you stand going
into the final round, so you know what you have
to do. And I came away from that going, well,
that sucks. I want the surprise. I'm willing to let
somebody get screwed over on a card if I can
get the surprise. Like I'm willing to let them bring
(01:02:45):
out some chains. Yes, Jerry, maybe it's a couple of
guys who might be out of shape. Maybe it's a
couple of guys who wear glasses. The hell's wrong with that.
I'm willing to accept all that if it means we
still get the drama. I don't need technology getting involved
in everything. I just don't. I don't need it. I
(01:03:05):
don't want to sit around and wonder what the hell
is that? Is that a giant mosquito? No, it's a
drone overhead and trying to look and see how much
money I've got in my wallet, Like, I don't need that.
I also don't need to scan my phone to find out. Hey,
what are your apps tonight? Hey do you guys put
(01:03:26):
mushrooms on your salad? Because if you do, I'm out.
Give me an old school menu. Let me hold the
menu in my hand and look at it with my
own two eyes. All right, let me have a little
bit of some private I don't need a chip in
a football to tell me whether or not there's a
first down. Yeah, they might mess it up from time
to time, but you know what, I'd rather rely on
(01:03:47):
those guys who are working their ass off getting none
of the glory for pennies to tell me whether or
not some team's got a first down and whether or
not some team short. I'm a big fan of the
chain gang. I hope it stays around for a long time.
But if it's gone, you're gonna miss it. I'm telling
you that right now. That is football. It's tradition, and
we need to respect those guys Jonas Knox here Fox
(01:04:10):

(01:05:15):
be losing at their own game, they might be losing
at their own game with a little bit of jealousy
involved in the NFL. That'll be yours here on FSR.
But for all the latest, it's Nicko and Jonas.
Speaker 6 (01:05:25):
Without the chain game, we would never have one of
my favorite moments, Jeane Sterotur and the index card seven
years ago that happened.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
I just watched it again.
Speaker 6 (01:05:36):
The pay It looks like it's two index cards together,
something's folded, there's some space there. It's definitely a little
sketchy watching it back again, but still a fantastic moment
in an NFL history.
Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I wonder, like, what do you think those guys that
are doing the chain gang, What do you think those
guys make a game like we had to.
Speaker 6 (01:05:54):
Guess now like fifty bucks one hundred bucks because they
can get anybody down there.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Anybody would love to do that. So there's course and
there's no like you never have any issues with them,
Like you're never worried about one guy getting banged up
the night before and not being able to hold the chain, Like, No,
they come in, they're professionals, they're doing a good job
and they've been doing it for a long time. And
instead you've got Jerry Sandusky Ravens play by play. Guy
(01:06:23):
airing some guy out just mining his own business in
a preseason game. Disgusting.
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
It sounds like he's got some sort of personal thing
involving a member of the Chain Gang that made me
happen to him at some point and he just unleashed
this fury.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Can you imagine like that guy in the Chain Gang
like used to beat up Jerry Sandusky in high school, which,
by the way, do you want to clarify that's a
Raven's play by play, Yes, just want everybody to be
understanding of that. That's a great job. By the way,
Jerry with a G, not Jerry with a J.
Speaker 6 (01:06:52):
Although I was just thinking, you know, maybe they make
a couple hundred because they are routinely in the line
of fire diving for first down, so there's odds I think,
you know, because of the hazard of maybe getting taken
out that you know, maybe they do make a few
hundred there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Hey bo, can we look that up? How much did
guys from the Chain Gang make a game? Not not
to you know, look at anybody else's pocket, but like,
how much did they make a game? Because I would
love to know why these guys deserve that sort of
disrespect to be honest with you.
Speaker 6 (01:07:25):
All right, boson it, Let's go to the Olympics. USA
men's basketball is tipped off in the last few minutes
against France, and it's the Americans with an early ten
to seven lead just a few minutes into that first quarter.
Kevin Durant started for the first time alongside lebron James,
Steph Curry, Devin Booker, and Joel Embiid the bronze. Earlier today,
(01:07:45):
Serbia beat Germany, so they get a medal. As the
US is going for their fifth consecutive Olympic gold. US
women's soccer, they claimed gold. They beat Brazil one to nothing.
Mallory Swanson had the goal early in the second half
of the Americans fifth Olympic gold for USA women's.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Soccer in their first sense.
Speaker 6 (01:08:02):
London in twenty twelve spent a great day on the
track as well. The US has won three gold medals there,
including both the American men's and women's four by four
hundred teams taking first.
Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
The women's four by four was a demolition.
Speaker 6 (01:08:17):
He also had American Massai Russell winning gold and the
women's one hundred meter hurdles by one one hundredth of
a second and US gymnast Jordan Giles may have to
return her bronze medal from the floor exercise. The Swiss
Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled today that the judging
panel improperly granted an inquiry into Child's score that vaulted
her into third place, and they say the original finishing
(01:08:40):
order that had Chiles and fifth should be reinstated. Finally,
in the NFL, we saw rookie quarterbacks Caleb Williams and
Jaden Daniels make their preseason debut. Williams played a couple
of drives for the Bears, four of seven through the
air ninety five yards, added a thirteen yard rush, no touchdowns,
no picks. As for Daniels, he just played the opening
drive for the Commanders through for forty five yards, captain
(01:09:02):
with a three yard touchdown run.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Jonas back to you, Thanks Nick Jonas Knox here on
Fox Sports Radio. By the way, coming up and in
about ten minutes from now, we are going to uh, well,
we're gonna close up shop with another edition of the
Scraps Things in the world of sports and beyond. We
have not had a chance to get to that'll be
yours here from the Tirack dot Com studios. All right,
Bo Benson, you've got the numbers on the Chain Gang salary.
Speaker 8 (01:09:25):
Yes, this is It goes back to twenty twenty, so
maybe it's been upped. But according to Alex Prue of
Sports Illustrated, the majority of chin Chain Gang crews were
paid seventy five to one hundred dollars per game.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
I mean, the New York.
Speaker 8 (01:09:39):
Jets were on the upper end of those payouts. They
paid one hundred and fifty, and some teams, such as
the Washington Commanders, compensated the crew chief with season tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
I mean, like, so those guys are making seventy five
dollars a game, and Jerry Sandusky has got a pistol
whip them on the air because god forbid, they're wearing
glasses and maybe they're a little bit heavy set. Come on, man,
this is it's gotta stop. All right, it's gotta stop.
(01:10:10):
And some guy just got mad at me because I
was upset about there's still being digital menus on the phone.
So why didn't you just walk out a little hard
with a three year old pal who you're trying not
to have a meltdown? In the restaurant, okay. And by
the way, if I give him a menu, what he
thinks he's gonna do with it, he's gonna rip it
in half or he's gonna draw on it. Okay. So
I've got to look at this digital thing instead, and
(01:10:31):
I'm not a fan of it, right, So you just
let me have my issues and you have yours, all right.
That being said, good job for the Chain Gang. Hope
you stick around for a little bit longer, all right.
And if this was all reverse psychology, and now Jerry
Sandusky's got to wear it and all of a sudden
people feel bad and it brings more recognition to the
Chain Gang and the work they do than good. Good
(01:10:51):
for you, Jerry Sandusky Raven's play by play guy, not
the other guy, Jonas Knox here Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
So I do find it funny that the Dallas Cowboys
are getting beat at their own game, because Dallas has
got a superstar wide receiver and a franchise quarterback that
both need contracts, and yet the only contract and contract
(01:11:24):
negotiation and drama anybody is talking about is Brandon Ayuk.
It is kind of funny to see the Dallas Cowboys
getting beat at their own game. It just is because
I've said this before. I think it is all part
of the plan. I think it is all intentional. I
think Jerry Jones loves this sort of stuff. I think
(01:11:44):
when he comes out and says, hey, listen, I like
to stir it up a little bit. I think they
love waiting. They look at it and go, yeah, we
might have to pay a little bit more by being
the last ones to get a deal done for whoever
the position player is. But you know what, at least
we're the ones everybody's talking about. He waited on Dak Prescott.
He's waiting on CD Lamb. They're waiting on Dak Prescott again.
(01:12:04):
He waited so long on emmittt. Smith. He missed the
first two games of the season. He like, they love
this stuff. They love it, and when Micah Parsons comes around,
it'll be the same old thing. And yet here we
are this offseason and they are getting dominated by the
forty nine ers and the drama surrounding Brandon Aiyuk. So
I do wonder that there's a little bit of bitterness
(01:12:24):
there from the Jones family seeing that the Niners are
getting most of the attention because they've had the most
storylines come out of their potential signing slash trade requests
than anybody else in the NFL. Has Jonas Knox, he
or Fox Sports Radio coming up next year, We're going
to close up shop with another edition of the Scraps
right here on FSR Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio coming
(01:12:47):
up in we'll call it a little over twelve minutes
from now here from the tire rack dot Com studios.
Make sure you stick around. It'll be Alex Curry and
Carmen Vitally taking over the airwaves. All sorts of conversation,
whether it's NFL preseason, the debut of Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels,
the Olympics. They got you covered here. Always a fun listen.
Make sure you stick around. They will have you again
(01:13:08):
top of the hour one o'clock Pacific time, four pm
Eastern time. A reminder before we close up shop here
with another edition of the Scraps. Shortly after the show,
our podcast will be going up. So if you've missed
any of today's show and it's been a barn burner,
be sure to check out the pod. You can search
Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcasts, be sure
(01:13:28):
to also follow rate and review it again. Just search
Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast. You're going
to see the show posted right after we get off
the air. I will also x out or tweet out
a link to that podcast as well too at the
Jonas Knox At the Jonas Knox. But right now it
is time for a little something we do each week,
and it's called this Jonas.
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
You moro, how could you not get to these stories,
you morons?
Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
These are there scraps. And for that we turn it
over to Bo Benson to find out what the hell
we've missed so far in the show. Bo.
Speaker 8 (01:14:00):
That's right, I believe for the last time, we will
now get a Olympics update from our very own Chris
Prefett here.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
Oh, it was so great to have you on this
long haul. By the way, do the Olympics not feel
like the longest two weeks in the history of sports?
I love the Olympics, they are long.
Speaker 7 (01:14:17):
This final weekend gets a little rough, especially when you
see what events they shove in here for the final weekend,
like taekwondo, this one off breaking thing that they're not
even bringing back for twenty twenty eight, which.
Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Did I fun? Second, did I see was that break
dancing at the Olympics.
Speaker 7 (01:14:35):
Yeah, that's that was legitimate. Yes, it's a competition that
they introduced for this year. It's not going to come
back in twenty twenty eight. Snoop Dogg was there is
kind of em seeing the events and just had break dancers.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Yeah. I swear to god, like I'm not even making this,
Like I thought it was just some guy who jumped
onto the stage from the crowd and he was wearing like,
you know, a pair of anchor blue jeans, like baggy jeans,
and just started dancing. I swear to god, I didn't
know that was a real event.
Speaker 8 (01:15:04):
Hold on, guys, because maybe this is going to make
an appearance in the scraps later on.
Speaker 7 (01:15:07):
Well, I was gonna say the rules are fascinating, but yeah,
I'll mix everything about that.
Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Let's just go to the count you at.
Speaker 7 (01:15:12):
United States of America still leading the way one hundred
and twenty one medals total, more than anyone else. China
has eighty nine in second place. The key part here
is the United States says thirty seven gold medals, China
has thirty eight. They picked up some Golden table tennis
and diving today, So there was a chance actually for
the United States who have tied them, and it goes
(01:15:34):
to track and field to the high jump. Shelby Michew
and the United States high jumper had a chance to
share gold on the high jump. You remember back in
twenty twenty we had a gold shared between mutahs As
Barshim excuse me if I'm butchering that name, and Jon
Marco tom.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Berry, who could forget that. It was a very cool moment.
Speaker 7 (01:15:56):
They decided rather than do a jump off, they were
going to just share. They both took home a gold medal,
but Mickwin rejected that and he decided he was going
to have a jump off with New Zealand athlete Hamish
care but he missed all of his high jumps care
Kit the one at two point three to four meters,
so he takes home gold and the USA loses out
(01:16:17):
on their thirty eighth attempt for a gold medal. Team
USA playing right now on basketball, but yeah, Sunday gets
pretty rough. There's not a lot of team events. The
USA is in gold four I think just women's basketball
and women's volleyball, and that's really about it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
And again the last day is like you.
Speaker 7 (01:16:34):
Know, marathons and handball finals, water bowl, water polo, some
cycling events no one's heard of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
You know what. I can't wait to see the closing
ceremonies and how many times that got rewritten after the
outrage over the opening ceremonies. I can't wait to see
what the final version is.
Speaker 7 (01:16:52):
I don't think the French care what we think, but
I'm going to be lost.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
So some guys standing in the background with his belt,
Barry's hanging out.
Speaker 7 (01:17:02):
And that is your final Olympics update. I'll see you
in like four years, Jonas from going into a coma.
Until then, all right, Bo, what else we got?
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (01:17:11):
Dodgers Mookie bets He plans to return for the team
on Monday, although apparently after a long discussion with manager
Dave Roberts, it will be in the outfield and not
died shortstop, where he had been playing earlier this season.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
So I mean, you know, look, you know, if there
was only a podcast I could listen, hey, that would
offer up some analysis about that, some some honest opinions
on the Dodgers, like and I've been I've been telling
Bo was like listen I've got this idea, you and
Ryan Berschinger and Monsei should get together and just ben
because you're all hot heads when it comes to the
Dodgers and lo and behold, what is that podcast?
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Boss?
Speaker 8 (01:17:48):
It is the Sick podcast The Dodger Zone. So you
can find us on YouTube while podcast apps and maybe
we even talked about this last week when we said
that Mookie Bets isn't even good at short so he
needs to go to the outfield geese. Yeah, at least
he tried. You know, hey, you know, credit for him
for trying. But we all try things we're not very
(01:18:09):
good at every once in a while.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
Tell me about it.
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
Yeah, as my previous relationship, this one's kind of weird.
H Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Junior. He told media
that his company and not himself, signed an agreement with Fanatics,
and so that is why his jersey remains unavailable for
purchase by Cardinals fans and you know, any any Marvin
(01:18:33):
Harrison Junior fans out there. My only thought with this
one is, can you imagine if this was Caleb Williams
doing this?
Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
What we be wrong about it?
Speaker 2 (01:18:43):
Like? But that that's the that's what's so funny about this?
This story is drug on for how long? Like you
would think, like your rookie season, like let's just get
all the crap out of the way and let's focus
on the year. And instead this has just been going
on on and on, like it's just the thing's weird,
just doesn't make any sense, just an odd one all around.
Speaker 8 (01:19:03):
Yeah, last one here On Australian Sports Executive, they took
umbrage with the internet's trolling of breakdancer Rachel raygun Gun
after her performance at the Olympics started to draw some
memes and jokes on the Internet about how it looked
and how she performed. So breakdancing not doing the best
(01:19:24):
online here at the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
I mean, listen, you know, I mean look, if people
love breakdancing as much as they claim they do this Olympics,
then do me favor. Just go drive down to Venice Beach,
all right, don't watch the you know, you got a
bob and weave some of the sleeping some of the
sleeping bags. But but when you get there, there's some
guy who looks like the tin Man from Wizard of
Oz and he like break dances on a platform it's
(01:19:47):
fun to watch, and give him the gold medal if
you're gonna do anything, ross, son of a bitch,
