Speaker 1 (00:00):
Please, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio Live the
dream once again. Here on a spectacular Saturday of sports
Fox Sports Saturday. We are broadcasting live from the tier
rat dot Com studios, tire rac dot com ARENAUP get
you there, and I'm matched selection fast reshipping, free road
as a protection over ten thousand recommended installers tire rack

(00:23):
dot com the way tire buying should be. Well, Mansey,
here we are as we are getting ready to close
out the Olympic Games. Closing ceremonies will be tomorrow. By
the way, the final gold that will be awarded in
these Olympic Games will be women's basketball. Of course, Team
USA looking to continue their domination of that sport.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
So here we are two weeks in.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
How have you been sort of taking in this whole
Olympic experience?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I mean use the word spectacular today.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I did use spectacular before to describe the start of
our show, which it is always spectacular.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Or I'm just saying you use that word today.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Is that because of Team USA's gold win over France.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Well let's let's let's say this. The guy that was spectacular,
it was Steph Curry. If it wasn't for Steph Curry.
They lose the Serbia in the stem easily, and then
he pulled it off again today France.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
I mean this, this would have.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Been obviously a huge story where the host country, France
would be pulling the upset led by Wemby against these
NBA All Stars of Team USA. And it was a
three game, three point game, late in the game, plenty
of time for France, and then Steph just took over.
He had one three, he hit another three over Wemby,
had another three where he put people.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
To sleep and that was that.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
So Team USA wins their fifth straight gold in men's basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
I mean, Curry is just ridiculous. But France came out
I don't know, maybe nervous. They had a lot they like,
did not protect the ball in the first quarter the
way I thought they were going to come out and
protect the ball. And it was only the first quarter,
but like you said, they brought it with h three
and in my head, I was just like, there was
that quarter the possessions they France either was nervous, they

(02:08):
didn't know exactly what they wanted to do. Curry wasn't
great in the first half, and then they kept it
close and then of course Chef Curry comes cooks it up.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Ridiculous, but not ridiculous because we see this all the time.
It's just the world. Maybe other countries are seeing this
for the first time, but we in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
You have said it millions of times, especially during last season.
How is this guy not going to be in the playoffs?
How is Golden State not going to go to the playoffs?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
He's the problem. I think.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Think about this if you again. They now actually have
an award that's been the last couple of years in
the NBA clutch Player. Yeah, and they're falling in love
with DeMar DeRozan, And I'm like, okay, DeMar deroz On.
I mean, he's been a great score. But if you
were to ask the question Game seven NBA Finals, gold

(02:58):
medal game for the Olympics, you know where you absolutely
have to have someone take that shot.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
There's no to me, there's no question it's Chef Curry.
I must seem shimmy, like, let's be real, a guess,
because we've seen it so much that maybe we take
it for granted. And then in the last two games,
we just saw it again after not seeing it for
a while because Golden State didn't make it to the playoffs,
So maybe we're just a little bit distant from.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Seeing Curry, but in reality, he can. He is mister clutch.
He really is well.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
And I remember the statistical setting way back in the
day when Kobe obviously was considered that guy, and then
they would do a little deeper digging into what was
his actual shooting percent in games where the game is
tied or a one point game in the last minute
or last thirty seconds, and he had one of the
worst shooting percentages under those circumstances. The one thing he

(03:52):
did have was more attempts than anyone else under those circumstances,
and I think I think it was mellow of all people. Yeah,
that had a really high percentage, but not nearly as
many shots. I have to agree with you. I mean,
you know, watching Steph Curry, whose ability to shoot the basketball. Look,
you have great scores and this is not taken away
from Lebron Kevin Durrand a great score and everything else,

(04:15):
but just the ability to shoot from anywhere. I mean,
there's a picture now of Curry's shot over the extended
arms of Wimby, who's like twenty feet tall. And extends
his arms and getting that shot up with a high
arc and just putting it right through in the clutch,
essentially clenching this gold medal. That is an iconic photo.

(04:38):
And again there's only one guy that can do that,
and it's Steph Curry.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
And I think it's like, oh, he's done it for
so many years. So it's like if you've ever denied
his ability, like you can't deny it now, you know, greatness.
Everyone has haters, so I'm sure there's people who are like, oh, no,
Curry's not that good. Relax, No, he really is, and
he's done it year after year after year, and we
see it now on full display worldwide.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Honestly, best best shooter of all time.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
All right, So they are now having the medal ceremony
for the men's basketball. They're awarding the gold medals right now.
They just gave and beat his medal, and of course
he's getting booze from France because he essentially turned on
his scutty.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
We did not have audio.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Can you turn on Nick Coops Mike for a second,
because they were acknowledging the crowd, but we couldn't hear
it in studio. I assume they were raining booze down
on Joel Embiid.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, and he's taking it in stride the whole time.
He's just laugh at pregame that during warm ups they're
booing the heck out of him, And as he leaves
the court, he's pretending to that he's crying and you know,
wiping his face like he's just kind of mocking them.
He hasn't been bothered by the whole thing one bit.
He's like, hey, I got the gold.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Medal, I got the last laugh.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
He does have the last laugh. I don't know is
that appropriate in the Olympics to mock the host city,
especially if you're an American.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
If they're gonna can genuously boo you every time you're on.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
The court, well, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
I don't blame them for booing him.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
No, I'm fine with both.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Both of you be petty, petty towards each other.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
I agree wholeheartedly with Monsey. I appreciate the back and forth.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, I agree. If you're gonna do shit, then be
able to take it back and forth. I agree.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Well, you know how social media is. We'll see where
they go with this. You know, as far as I
look at it.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
I agree with you.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I mean, he made a decision. He's playing for Team USA.
It's not like Embiide had a huge impact on Team USA.
I think he probably would have had even a greater
impact had he played for France. But you know, to
the to, the winners get the spoils, and so the
United States of America wins gold medal in the Olympic

(06:46):
men's basketball. So what what has stood out to you
in these Olympic Games? Have you discovered any sports or
finding yourself watching sports? You never dreamt you be watching all.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Of them, all of them.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Sometimes you don't have to be here at five am,
so I'm watching myself whitewater rafting. I don't know what
they're doing, and it's just pretty incredible all of the
talent that is out there now, the breakdancing thing, what
are we doing?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Okay, so let me I'm glad you mentioned the breakdancing,
which by the way, is not on the schedule for
the next Olympics and may have won and done. And
by the way, a little bit later on the show,
I'm going to tell you about some sports that used
to actually have a competition at the Olympics. Some have
been long gone, some are recently gone. Some may even

(07:35):
return in Los Angeles in four years. But the Australian
woman they got so much hype about. Somebody compared her
routine to what their dog does after taking a bath,
Like you know, the dog comes out of the bath
and starts rolling everything. Oh, yeah, they that's what they.
And so the fact that you had this woman in

(07:59):
essence really walking if you want to call it a sport,
but mocking break dancing and she got no points and
it obviously went viral.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I must have missed that. You never saw that. I
didn't see this. I have to look this.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Oh you missed this Australian woman.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yes, I watched a little bit of the break dancing
and I just was like she was in.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Her mid thirties.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
People were like, how did this woman even get a
ticket to go to the Olympics. Much, let's compete in
a national sport.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
I can't wait to watch this.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
But she was so bad it went viral all over
my Twitter. Was so bad. Yeah, But as somebody compared
it to what their dog does when he takes a bath,
and it's sort of rolling on the ground to get
all the water off and everything else.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
And the thing is like break dancing, we're not seeing
you're not skilled. I mean, so you think you can
dance as a show. I'll watch Dancing with the Stars
like I appreciate it because I can't dance like that.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
I just think that is such a subjective thing, too great.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
And to tell me that they deserve a gold medal
in like, I don't, it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I mean, had the heads the way they formatted it was,
they would have them going up against each other sort
of like a side by side situation. So you you
start this Australian, You've got to see this during the
break I'm going to when you watch this, you're going
to like, see this is the problem. You're trying to
introduce a sport as legitimate enough to have a spot

(09:20):
in the Olympic Games, and then you have a competitor
that essentially just makes a mockery of the sport, and
of all the competitors in breaking, she is the one
that became the most visible participant in that sport, which
pretty much guarantees it's going to be killed. It is

(09:41):
not slated to be on the agenda in twenty twenty
eight in LA I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I'm not surprised, and I think when we most of
us when we heard that, were like, huh, breakdancing, Okay,
that's an interesting choice. I don't think anybody was like, well, duh,
we've been missing break dancing all these years.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
That was nobody's sentiment, right, I mean, even chance to
watch that.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
On the other side, I'm going to talk about some
sports that we're in competition in Paris that will not
be there in LA and other sports that were not
on the ledger in Paris that will be introduced or
reintroduced in Los Angeles. And I've also got sports that
only made one appearance that will never appear again. What

(10:21):
defines an Olympic sport?

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (10:24):

Steve Harvey, Monzie belanyas here Fox Sports Saturday. We are
live from the Tirak dot Com studios. Coming up later
in the hour, Mark Mendina, our Fox Sports Radio NBA insider,
will join us get his thoughts on Team USA coming
away with their fifth straight gold medal. Of course, the
women will be going tomorrow, which will be the final

(12:21):
day of the Olympics, and then Adam Caplan will join
us later. As we now have our first full week
of preseason football. Both Caleb Williams and Jane Daniels made
their debuts earlier. Both looked pretty good today, so we'll
get to Adam Kaplan's look of what's going around the
NFL as we are, yeah, just weeks away from the
football season. In fact, Nick Kope just came in and

(12:43):
reminded us week zero of the college football season two
weeks away.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
That's crazy, that's crazy, and also reminded us that soccer
is coming to because he has to go work now
after this. Yes, Everythina is starting back up for fall,
essentially like we are getting ready.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
We have a big screen amble of talent. Of course,
we have a ton of talent here at Fox Sports.
Rada and Chris Burfett is going to be doing updates.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah, well we all double dipp around here, right, don't
we all just double dip?

Speaker 6 (13:10):
Lately?

Speaker 2 (13:10):
We've been playing musical chairs.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Now Chris Burfett has joined the musical chair game.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
We are looking forward to that, all right. So a
couple of things about these sports. We're talking about the
breakdancing breaking as they called it, and of course this
woman from Australia did the sport no favors with her antics.
That became the visual of this competition in these Olympic Games.
So a lot of people had asked me, so when

(13:35):
does the women's softball begin? And I said, they're not
going to begin, nor is baseball. Here's the interesting history
of these two sports because they go hand in hand.
So baseball wasn't brought to the Olympics until Barcelona in
ninety two, and then four years later women's softball was
also brought to the Olympics, and Team USA, especially on

(13:55):
the women's side, that became pretty dominant. Yeah, at the
end of the twenty twelve Games, they decided to eliminate
both sports, okay, but they were brought back for the
Tokyo Games. We say, four years ago, three years ago,
but neither sport was in this Olympics, and here's the deal,

(14:15):
both will be back for the LA Olympics. So how
do you feel about certain sports not part of every Olympics?

Speaker 3 (14:25):
You know, I think it's kind of a bit of
a loaded question in the sense because I think baseball
is a major sport. So baseball, even softball, it's kind
of shocking that it's hit or miss. There are other
sports that I would understand, maybe like water sports that
maybe you host you have a hosting country who doesn't
specialize in that, that would make a little bit more sense.
But to me, baseball is one of the major sports,

(14:47):
so I'm just shocked that we don't have. It's also international,
it's an international sports. I'm just it's a little bit
shocking that it comes and goes. But it wouldn't surprise
me if you told me about a different sport that's
maybe pertaining to climate, weather, you know, based on your
region location.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
I guess I'll tell you. I'll tell you some sports
that For instance, I'll give you a couple of sports
that have only actually had competition onceever in Olympic history.
One of them is a surprise to me because it's
a big growing sport in the United States.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Lacrosse. Interesting, I would have.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
A field hockey, which has been a big party of
the Olympics for many many Olympics. Lacrosse, I think was
one time and it was like one hundred years ago.
There's no lacrosse in the Olympics. No lacrosseeah, right, now,
here's here's an interesting one. Here's a couple of interesting ones.
So the modern Olympics started in eighteen ninety six in Athens.

(15:45):
And the big story is the original Olympics date back
to seven to seventy six BC. So what they like
know that, Well, they advertise on NBC because it's twenty
twenty four, twenty eight hundred years in.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
The making type of thing.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Right, Okay, the Olympics. By the way, in seventeen seven,
from what we understand, everyone was in the nude. So
how would that work in the Olympics now, if everyone was.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
New, that would not work, that's the answer. It would
not work.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
I mean, that's how it was in the original Olympics
seven seventh, Right.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
You want to go back to the original. I'm just
all right.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
So the second Modern Olympics eighteen ninety six Athens nineteen
hundred was in Paris, and one of the sports they
had in competition was hot air ballooning.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
I'm sorry, what yeah, hot air balloons.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
They had a competition, multiple competitions in hot air ballooning
at the nineteen hundred Games in Paris.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
What is exactly the goal or what was the goal
in this hut?

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Like a race?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
I guess, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Is this like Dorothy and Toto or say?

Speaker 2 (16:56):
What what do we just all go and hope for
the best?

Speaker 7 (16:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
They actually had a sport where one time you would
you would dive as deep as you could go and
then have to stay down there for like a minute,
and then for who could get back to the top
the quickst water.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
That sounds that sounds terrifying, absolutely not right.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
How about this synchronized swimming, right we all watch, In fact,
we're just watching right now. Syncra nice swimming is going
on at the nineteen eighty four Olympics here in Los Angeles,
they had an event in synchronized swimming that only happened
one time.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
It was solo synchronized swimming. Okay, well, I mean well,
I mean.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
That is synchronized swimming solo. It's simple. They played a
song and then you had to sync up with the
song solo.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Oh goodness, Oh I'm glad that one only lost time.
I really am.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
Yeah, that would that sounds so ridiculous that it was
even a proved when in eighty two.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
That was nineteen eighty four Olympics in Los Angeles, not even.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
That long ago. No, you're telling me this was a proof.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
It was that sport was in the only time they
ever had competition for that sport was at the LA Game.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
That's called swimming by yourself. It's called swimming by your.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Side to a song.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, great, I could do that.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Put me in a bool right now, Mary Mack will
play a song and I will swim according to the song.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Come on, now, are there any sports that you've watched
over the last couple of weeks that, if you were
asked to choose a sport to eliminate, to eliminate.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yes, break dancing obviously, obviously that's the only one.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
I feel like, that's really obvious.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
The only you know, when I see those weightlifters, for
the sake of my mental health, every time they do
that dead lift and then over their heads.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Yes, the clean and jerk my knees.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
My knees give out every single time I see I
don't know how they can do that.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
That one is the one that gives me the queasies.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
It's like the one that I just I cannot watch
it because I feel like that's my knee hyper extending. There,
it's torn, no meniscus, it's gone. Every single time I
see them do that one. This is the only one.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Look, I've been really working hard to give a lot
of different sports a look.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
Yeah you're saying that in a sense, because like there's
a lot of sports I don't have to watch again.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
But I've been enjoying it during the Olympics.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Here's the thing I told you before the Olympics began.
I am really old school track and field to me
is the Olympic Games. Yes, and this Olympics for team USA.
The finish on the fifteen hundred meter.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Was that Quincy Hall.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Now that was the four hundred meter, which was unreal, unreal.
The US runner the one the fifteen hundred, same thing
where he given the back right from the back and
wanted at the take. I'm sorry that to me when
I think back on my Olympic memories. That's what I remember, yeah,
is finishes to races like that. We had some incre

(20:00):
credibly close races. I believe the women's one hundred meter hurdle. Yes,
had another one that like the men's one hundred meter
final where it's like point zero zero.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Yes lives.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Yeah, because that girl, the one that lost by the points.
She looked so upset after and you were like, we
were I think we were watching it at the bar
and they were like, what happened. I was like, she's matt.
She must have not won by like a tenth of
a second or something.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
You could just see it in her face.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Now here's something I do want to mention because we
were talking about this earlier. So again, if you go
to Olympics dot com, they list countries not in order
of total medals, which the US is dominated. They list
them by gold medals and the last look, China still
has a one gold medal lead. Now, our women's basketball
should win the gold tomorrow, so I think, buten, when

(20:46):
it's all said and downe the United States should have that.
But earlier today they had the men's high jump final
and US jumper versus a jumper from New Zealand, and
the way it works is if they both miss at
the final height, it has whoever has the least misses

(21:06):
getting to that final height ends up with the medal advantage. Well,
in this case, both had the exact same number of misses,
so it was a dead heat. And four years ago
or three years ago, technically, we had a similar situation
and the two jumpers agreed to share the gold medal.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
So the New Zealand guy, they finished on this last
height and he went over to the American jumper, and
the American jumper said let's go for it. And ultimately
the American jumper lost. But let me tell you something,
hats off to him. We don't play for times. Imagine this,
Imagine if imagine if in our last Super Bowl the

(21:46):
Chiefs and the forty nine ers at the interregulation got
together and said, you know what, forget over time, Let's
just share the super Bowl championship.

Speaker 7 (21:55):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
We walk off the field, we are both super Bowl.
You don't do that. You're going for the goal. There
is no I didn't even know you could have a
tie into the shadn't know that either.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
I didn't know that was allowed.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
But they were technically tied, and they apparently agreed to
share the gold medal. No sharing of the gold medal, No, no, no, no, no.
Look at you are competing at the highest level in
your sport at the Olympic Games. Somebody goes home a
winner and somebody comes hop with the silver. That's the
way it should be. Hats off to the American jumper.

(22:29):
Both these guys, by the way, were jumping at a
level they had not done before. So these were you know,
these were you know, they were pushing it. But the
fact that he walks away with the silver, congratulate for him,
because if he had said, yeah, let's share the goal.
Get out of here with that, share the goal.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
What if you were in a competition and then it
was like, listen, you're tied and one more shot this
jump and you think I'm not going to get it,
Let's just share the goal.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
No huh no, no, no, no, you go down with honor.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
That's the one you go.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
I will nobody. You do not settle for a tie.
Not in the Olympic Games. The forty nine ers said, look, man,
we we we both played hard today. How with that
overtime stuff? Man, we both were the joint Super Bowl champions.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
I don't disagree with you.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I'm just saying that maybe the joke's on us because
they both walked away with gold medal.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
It's you could be as we could be, as bad
as we want.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
They walked away with the golden back to me did
not exist that year, this today, even if the United
States settled for the silver, that's the way it's supposed
to be an honorable situation. But this idea of like, yeah,
let's let's go for the tie and we both come
out winners, that's not the way I look at ties,
not a win, Ties not a win. It's not a loss.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
It's not a win. It's a tie. No tie for
a gold medal.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
No, no, no, no, no no. All right, Martin Medine
is going to be Johnny us in their side. But first,
let's find out what is trading trending right now? And
so how do you feel about that Nick sharing a
gold as opposed to you know, let's let's do this
until we actually get a winner. It was a cop
out three years ago, that's what it was.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
For sure.

Speaker 8 (24:09):
For sure, this is the Olympics that ties get you,
by the way, not only so you mentioned women's basketball
tomorrow and that gold medal pursuit.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Women's volleyball is in the gold medal match as well.
They're taking on Italy. So you go to and oh there.
Of course there's there's some other cycling stuff, but right
there there's two instances.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
China win any of these medals. I don't know where
they keep coming every watch any of the diving. I
did watch the diving eight all eight nights, and I
watched on the men's side. These two guys that China had,
they're not really close. They were lapping the field. They're
in a class of their own. There's a guy from
Mexico who got third. He's like respectably there, and then

(24:52):
it's just everybody else's way.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
It's it's it's like, yay, getta go to the Olympics
for diving, and these these guys hit.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
The high and they don't even make a ripple in
the water. That's it's crazy, it's a ludicrous. Anyways, Yeah,
lots of good stuff at the Olympics today. Of course,
we start with USA basketball and they've gotten their gold
medals after beating France in the gold medal game ninety
eight eighty seven it was tight late and then well
Steph Curry, he took matters into his own hands.

Speaker 9 (25:23):
Doctor Curry dancing up until over the double teams.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
That's a gold, right right, That's courtesy of NBC, and
I would like to play. We've got another form of
play by play here court side from one Stefan Marbury.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Here here's how he saw it.

Speaker 6 (25:48):
Let's see Cherry with the boom, he goes to the
he goes to white those ka, Katy got the.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
White those back to the step behind the back. Oh no,
that's great.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
He's just calling him Chef Stefan Marbury their court side.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Yeah, Steph Curry.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
He made four to threes in two minutes and eleven
second span there late in the fourth quarter. Eight threes
for the game, twenty four points. US gets their fifth
straight Olympic gold. USA Women's soccer. They're back on top,
their fifth Olympic gold. They beat Brazil one to nothing.
First time they claimed gold though in twelve years though
got to go back to London of twenty twelve. Mallory
Swanson had the goal early in the second half and

(26:33):
then on the track Steve we had a couple of
relay gold medals for the US.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I know, I actually watched the men's because our four
hundred meter champion Hall did not compete in the four
x four hundred meter relay, so we had our hurdles
gold medal. Ry Benjamin he was the anchor, so he
was the anchor. He was so casual in that anchor,
but he just did not to get the gold.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Yep with the men and the women's four x four
teams took first. The women just obliterated the field. He
also had Massai Russell, the American win gold in the
women's one hundred meter hurdles by one hundredth of a second.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
Let's go to the NFL quickly.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Jayden Daniels Caleb Williams make their preseason debuts and look
pretty solid. Williams played a couple of drives ninety five
yards passing, no tds, no picks. Jaydon Daniels just the
one drive and he went right down the field, capt
to with the three yard touchdown run. Got the Raiders
and Vikings playing. JJ McCarthy started with an interception, but
he's recovered a couple of touchdown passes for him. Packers

(27:34):
rookie running back, I just lost his name. They got
they got an injury though to their rookie running back
there in Green Bay, and so they're hoping that ankle injury.
Marshon Lloyd. I have found it. Marshon Lloyd left with
an ankle injury. He's a rookie against the Browns. Baseball
Yankees beat the Rangers. Ain't nothing, a's n if. The

(27:56):
Blue Jays won nothing. Giants over the Tigers three to one.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Back to you, all right, Nick, thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Checking with you a little bit later on once again
we are here Fox Sports Saturday, Steve Harbin, Manzi belanios
with you. Were coming to live from the tai Iraq
dot Com studios. All right, time to check in right now,
switching gears a little hour early for US, but perfect timing.
With Team USA walking away with their fifth consecutive gold
medal at the Olympic Games. Our Fox Sports Radio NBA

(28:23):
insider Mark Medina is joining us right now. So I
asked this earlier, Monzi, after Steph Curry literally saved the
day both in the semi final game against Serbia and
now in the gold medal game against France with a
brage of threes to save the US as ass in
both of these games. So I'm gonna ask you this, Mark,

(28:44):
if you were to put the ball in the hands
of any NBA player in the biggest game where you
need to have a shot made, who do you choose?

Speaker 10 (28:57):
Steve, really great question, a really tough one. I think
a simple answer. If it's a three, it's Steph. If
it's a two, it's Kevin Durant. And it's nice that
cmos I had both of those players because they need
every one ounce of their greatness to be able to
get this gold medal from France.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
You know, it's funny you say that, Mark, because I
just told Steve, like before the show started, I was like,
Curry is just the greatest shooter, Yes, but the greatest
scorer is Kevin Durant.

Speaker 10 (29:26):
And the thing with Kevin Durant, I mean he's the
all time leads scorer in TSA history. For a reason
is that not only he is, is he one of
the best scorers in the history of the game. He's very,
very efficient. He was not a whole high volume shooter.
He's very deliberate with how he takes his shots and
also helps he has that wing span, the height differential,

(29:47):
the fundamentals and the footwork.

Speaker 7 (29:49):
You know.

Speaker 10 (29:49):
I remember talking to Steve Kerr a few years ago
and I was on the Warriors speed and as he
was climbing the top ten, or not the top ten,
but the all time scoring less, I was curious like
where he would end up and Stuke Kerr didn't know
because this was even before his achilles injury. But he
even said at the time, you can make the argument
that he has more skills than Michael Jordan as far

(30:10):
as a score goes. He wasn't saying Durant's better than
mj as a total player, but as far as the
skill package because of how efficient of the score he
is and how multi faceted of a score who is.
He can shoot from the post, he can shoot inside,
he can shoot from three, He's really great with footwork,

(30:30):
and he's not high volume, so yeah, he's able to
get it done in multiple ways as far as hitting
the ball in the basket.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
My then partner Michael Thompson, when the draft came out,
Greg Odin course was the first pick in that Durant
went to Seattle before they moved to Oklahoma City, and
Michael Thompson insisting that Kevin Durant will be an absolute bust.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
In the end, you really say, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
He was convincing Greg Oden was going to be the
best thing since slice spread and that Kevin Durant will
quickly be forgotten. I do I remember this, though, is
that PJ. Carlossimo was his coach his first year in Seattle,
and we had him on after that season and we
asked him about Kevin Durant and this was his statement.
This is after Durant's rookie season. He said, I would

(31:14):
not trade him for a single player in this league.
That was after his rookie year. And you know, are
you kidding? I give you fifty players I would trade
him for right now. But he certainly knew something and
Durant has done that first man to have four Olympic
gold mess Let me ask you this though, about the
Olympics and the impact on legacy. We even discussed this

(31:36):
before Mark, And you know, I mean, no one looks
back at Carmelo Anthony's basketball career and starts with he
won three Olympic gold medals. You know, we are achievements
in the NBA, whether it's individual achievements, team achievements trump
anything you do in the Olympics. Do you think in
some respects though, what happened with these Olympics. This was

(31:58):
the oldest team in US history, duran As you mentioned
first guy who'll get four gold medals and obviously the
heroics of Steph Curry. Do you think that these players' legacies,
these NBA stars legacy are impacted at all by what
happens in these Olympic games.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
Yeah, that's good question. I think it's definitely part of
the legacy. But I think that any accomplishment with the Olympics,
it's the topping on the Sunday. The only way it
really impacts the legacy is if they don't win gold,
because then you're associated with the team that underachieved. So
I think when you're looking at the Dream Team, you know,
Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, you go down the line.

(32:38):
I don't think the first thing you think about those
players is what they did with the Dream Team. You
usually think about their NBA career. But no doubt we
do remember what they did with the Dream Team. Same
thing extends to this current group of players where they
got the fifth consecutive gold medal and Steph Curry's case,
it's his first because he didn't play in twenty sixteen
because of some injuries. The whole COVID shortened season made

(33:04):
him think that he's got to recharge for next season.
So so simer with Steph. Like I was asking Chris
Mullen before the Olympics, given the fact that Stuff has
already established himself as the greatest shooter of all time,
and he's already won multiple championships, what would a gold
medal mean? And he said, Well, he's already had his
body of work. It's not going to change that. But
he is of the belief that every stage, you know,

(33:27):
if you went to college, in the NBA and the Olympics,
has its own identity. And so I think with that,
when we look back at Steph and Lebron and Durant,
we're going to think of NBA careers first. But this
is going to be a notable moment because of how
difficult it was for them to win this fifth consecutive
gold medal, the fact that they all played at a
high level, and the fact that they all played together.

(33:49):
We saw it with Stephan, Durant and Golden State. So
provided some nostalgia reminers for Warrior fans, and then we
saw you know, Stephan Lebron and Durant and Lebron used
to always be finals opponents, and now they're teaming up
to try to win their own championship.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Game mark last one.

Speaker 11 (34:06):
Here.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
We may have to be quick, all right, the twenty
eight Olympics here in La Lebron kd Steph Curry.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Are they on the team.

Speaker 10 (34:15):
No, they're not on the team. They'll be retired by
that point, and that's the ultimate question. They have some
time four years, but it's also not a lot of time.
Who are the next crop of players? If I to predict,
it's going to be Anthony Edward, Jason Tatum will be
on the team and he'll actually play every single game.
And I don't think that Jalen Brown will be disinvited.
But you know what, we'll see how well all these

(34:35):
different players careers blossom in twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
Well, Bronni James is a guarantee.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 10 (34:41):
He is going to start at let's say this, maybe
Lebron is the next Team USA coach.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
He'll be the first G League guy ever on the
United States Olympic team. But he'll have earned it, as
they will say, all right, I can't resist on that stuff.
Great stuff. As always, Mark, We'll talk to you next.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
Week, looking forward to on the best Saturday show ever.
Appreciate you guys.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Thank you very much, the great Mark Medina, Johnny Us

Speaker 3 (35:30):
We are coming to you live from the tyreq dot
com studios.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
Let's get to it, all right.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
This is our new favorite segment where we try to
stump you, Steve, so that we can say we are
your daddy.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Okay, I'm gonna start things off by the way, you
are my reigning daddy.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Finally it took me a.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
While, though, tool technicality, because you still got closer than
anyone else.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
I would have asked that question too, So all right.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
In nineteen eighty four, this player had the most receiving yards,
but it was different than the player who had the
most touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
You know what yours?

Speaker 10 (36:00):
This?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Nineteen eighty four.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
Nineteen eighty four, he had the most receiving yards, but
it was different than the guy that had the most touchdown. Yes,
nineteen eighty four.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Could you get either of those?

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Okay, so I'm going to say in nineteen eighty four,
one of them is Roy Green.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Roy Green has.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
The most receiving yards, yes, fifteen hundred and fifty five,
but he did not have the most touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Does that sort of blow you away? I don't know
it completely.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Just you think there's a lot of people that would
answer Roy Green to that question? No?

Speaker 3 (36:42):
No, oh right, he's so annoying. Do you have me
to tell you where the other player played touched? Yes,
give me the team Dolphins. That was Mark Clayton. He
had eighteen touchdowns late, well.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
He did have eighteen touchdowns that year. I hate this game.

Speaker 12 (36:57):
All right.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Let's go to our anker who was in studio with us,
Hi Nick.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Let's go, so, I also was your daddy last week?

Speaker 7 (37:06):
Yes? You were?

Speaker 2 (37:06):
I got you?

Speaker 7 (37:07):
He did?

Speaker 1 (37:07):
And that was Liechtenstein, the smallest country to win a
gold medal.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
All right, so topical on the heels of Steph Curry's
big day. His first career three pointer came back in
two thousand and nine, his rookie year. What eight time
All Star was defending him? I would say that eight
time All Star was. There's so many eight time all start.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
No hints, hints.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
I just got to guess which eight time All Star
it is because he's got a rolodex in his head.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Of okay, eight time.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
But from a position standpoint, it doesn't make any sense.
And that's why I'm a little hesitant. But I'm just
gonna say, Vince Carter incorrect.

Speaker 5 (37:54):
He was.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
I want you to get this though he was. He
was also an MVP. He was an an eight time
All Star and an MVP. Might have been a two
time MVP. Hold on a second here against Steph Curry
two thousand and nine.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
So you're saying it was over Steve Nash.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
Yes, okay, what one fun fact too, Steph didn't make
a three in his first game.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
It took his second game before I actually made a three.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Only made some big ones here, all.

Speaker 11 (38:25):
Right, Uh, hey, let's go to our producer, Yes, all right,
Steve Monci I got and it's just a one step
question here every day, Steve, Yes, who is the all
time NFL leader in interception?

Speaker 2 (38:38):
Can't here? Mary was speaking over.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Oh sorry about that?

Speaker 11 (38:41):
Who is the all time NFL leader in interceptions as
a defensive lineman?

Speaker 1 (38:49):
Most interceptions by a defensive lineman.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yes, that's a good one, Thank you, thank you?

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Wow? Uh gonna say it is Jason Taylor. No, correct,
what I wanted that one badly? All right, you want me,
I'll give it to his name. Ron McDole, Ron mcdoll

(39:18):
of the old Buffalo Bills back in the day, play
with the Redskins at the end. He's such an unlikely guy,
is that defensive tackle.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Or defensive end? Defensive end? Defensive end? Ron mcdoll.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
His question so bad. My question was lineman the general
term lineman. Yes, he was a defensive Ron McDole. He
would be like, if you saw this guy, you'd be
the most unlikely guy to actually do that.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Mary Mack has one for you if you want to.
Al Right, so my question is pop culture. The question
is who ruined Taylor Swift two thousand and nine vm A.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Her Award beats. That would be Kim Kardashian's ex husband.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
Damnit.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Yeah, and that's who's your daddy?

Speaker 2 (40:09):
All right, very good?

Speaker 1 (40:11):
All right, can you do that? Okay, well it was
a mixed bag. Good job with the raw, McDole, and
that is the right answer. So you said, McDole, I'm like,
that's who it was. The Steve Nash. I just could
not get Vince Carter's eight All Star games out of
my head. It didn't make any sense. And yeah, Roy Green,
I pulled that one out of my You know what, Well,
we'll get to some NFL news. This is Fox Sports Saturday.

(40:35):
All right, rolling along here on a very busy sports Saturday,
Fox Sports Saturday. We are broadcasting live from the tire
rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot Com. We're gonna
get you there, an unmatched selection, fast reshipping, free road
assid protection, over ten thousand recommended installers ti iraq dot.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Com, the way tire buying should be.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Well, we have been talking a lot of Olympics here
on what is really the final full day of Olympic competition. Tomorrow,
we'll have some more events, including the gold medal match
for our women and both I believe, well, it's going
to be in volleyball and in basketball, so the volleyball
and basketball as the United States tried to overtake China

(41:18):
for the most gold medals in these Olympic Games. But
while that's going on, obviously, the NFL has got their
first full week of preseason. Actually had the Hall of
Fame game last week, and again I was excited to
get a glimpse of Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels today.

(41:38):
It's only the second time that we had two Heisman
Trophy winners, both taken back to back to start a draft.
It's rare that you have two Heightschoo winners coming out
the same year.

Speaker 7 (41:50):
Now.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
The other time it happened was the year of Jamis
Winston and Marcus Mariota. And I can safely say neither
one of the those guys is going to end up
in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Yeah, I don't think so, let's safe bet.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
And when you look at Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
And those that go on.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
To greatness in the NFL, it's it's actually a short list.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Yeah, it's an interesting, you know thing that the skill
doesn't correlate to the NFL all the time.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
Well, it Also it also gets back to this thing.
So I'm looking at a list here of Heisman Trophy
winners that have actually made it to the Pro Football
Hall of Fame, and most of them are running backs.
You have people like Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen and
Tony dor Said or a Campbell. There is only one quarterback, oh,

(42:45):
Jay Simpson, another one. There's only one quarterback who won
the Heisman Trophy that's in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,
and that's Roger Staubach. And that's the Cowboys quarterback from
the seventies. Yeah, you know how he was a Heisman
Trophy in nineteen sixty three. Do you know how many

(43:07):
Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks we've had since nineteen sixty three?

Speaker 2 (43:11):
Take quite a few, a lot, quite a few. And
yet interesting, that's a lot. That's a gap. Yeah, time,
So I just I wonder.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
I mean, I'm anxious to see how Caleb Williams is
going to fair. Look. I was a big fan of
Jamis Winston. I was a big fan of Marcus Mariota.
That's not all that long ago. And yet, even though
there were some signs along the way that maybe it
just didn't come to fruition.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
It just didn't happen.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Is that going to be different with Caleb Williams and
Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 3 (43:44):
I mean it's a really small sample size, right, but
I think that they both, like you said, they both
looked good. Caleb Williams has a rocket. He was he
was hitting those targets, tight targets. Granted, I don't know
how I was what maybe the first quarter that he
played and that was in and they took him out.
It's a small sample size, but they both seem to

(44:07):
excite in that small size that we saw.

Speaker 1 (44:11):
Well, if you look at Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks since
let's say the year two thousand, Chris Winky, Eric Crouch
didn't even play quarterback in the NFL. Carson Palmer had
a decent NFL career, but not a Hall of Famer. No,
Jason White never played in the league. Matt Liner, forget it.
Troy Smith barely played in the league. Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford,

(44:34):
Cam Newton now Cam led his team to a Super
Bowl RG three, Johnny football Manziell Winston, Mariota now Lamar Jackson.
Now there is someone that won the Heisman Trophy that
you could now he's.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
A two time MVP.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Yeah, but you feel like he's going to have to
win a Super Bowl, right, He's definitely.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
I don't know, Well, do you think just getting to
the Super that's a tough one. Now, Yeah, two time MVP,
two time MVP.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
Well, I'll tell you a guy that was a two
time MVP, but he also won a Super Bowl, and
that's Kurt Warner, you know. And Kurt didn't have a
lot of big years. He essentially had six big years
as a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
But when he combined winning.

Speaker 1 (45:18):
A Super Bowl, getting to two other Super Bowls, and
winning two MVPs, that added up for him getting into
the Hall of Fame. Now you got the you know,
Baker Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy, Kyler Murray won the
Heisman Trophy, Joe Burrow Trophy. Yeah, but Bryce Young obviously.
But now with Caleb Williams and Jaydon Downs, that's it.

Speaker 2 (45:39):
That's it.

Speaker 7 (45:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
I'm hearing somebody say Paul Horney was a quarterback in
college at Notre Dame. He was, and then the Pro
Football Hall of Fame as a running back. All right,
But I mean that's amazing when you think about all
these quarterbacks that have one Heisman trophies obviously at the
top of the game at the collegiate level, and it
just did not materialize once they got into the NFL.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
Yeah, so is that coaching?

Speaker 3 (46:04):
Is that not giving to the player's strengths and making
them adjust to what they want.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Them to play.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
I think that's exactly what it is interesting. You know, again,
so much of quarterbacking is developing the right system for
whatever your skill set is. You know, Joe Montana was
a prime example of this. Joe Montana Notre Dame, had moments,
but he wasn't an All American. He didn't show up
on any All American lists. He was a third round
draft pick, but he went to the genius Bill Walsh,

(46:32):
who had an offense that was perfectly designed for the
skill set that Joe Montana had. And the rest is history.
Tom Brady and Belichick, I mean, whatever it is. You know,
Tom Brady wasn't All American at Michigan. He was a guy,
you know, at a big school, but he was a guy.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
Yeah, so I'm curious.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
I mean again, I think both these guys, both Caleb
Williams and Jaden Daniels, have the skill set to be
elite quarterbacks in this league. But they're also stuck on
a couple of teams.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
Right now that are not exactly.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it seems as though Cayler Williams
might be in the better situation right now.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Might be, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
But the commanders now with a new ownership, you can
only assume that they're going to actually try to do
this and surround Daniels with the right players. I feel
like you have the responsibility now, especially maybe they're listening
to us right now.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
Well, I hope they don't handle Jaden Daniels the way
Washington handled RG three. People forget RG three's Rookie of
the Year. He beat out Andrew lock for offensive Player
a Rookie of the Year. He had a spectacular rookie season,
led the then Redskins all the way to the playoffs,
but then he was hurt and his coach, Mike Shanahan
just seemed determined to keep him on the field while

(47:49):
playing hurt. And after that rookie year, it went down quickly.
And again, here's the thing about quarterbacks that use their mobility.
It can be great in the short term, but it
doesn't necessarily translate into a long career. I mean when
you looked at Cam Newton his MVP season leading Carolina

(48:10):
to that Super Bowl, which, unfortunately for Panthers fans, they
lost that game. But eventually that mobility that made him
such a dynamic quarterback caught up.

Speaker 2 (48:20):
Yeah. It tears you down a little bit, oh a lot.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
I mean it's tough enough standing in the pocket getting hit, right,
but if you're going to put yourself out.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
There, getting hit with speed is even harder.

Speaker 7 (48:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (48:31):
Yeah, And both these quarterbacks like to run, and so
we'll see how that all plays out. But that's part
of this preseason. I wish we'd see a little.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
Bit more than this game. Yeah, but I understand.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
I mean Daniel's only played one series, Caleb played two series.

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Yeah, that's it. But you also think that the preseason
is useless.

Speaker 1 (48:53):
Well, what I said is, and I think this is
one hundred percent true. The preseason in does not determine rosters. Sure, yeah,
very very few exceptions.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
In other words, we're not, you know, trying out to
get on the no.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
No, no, Like I said, most rosters. I don't know
if the exact number is fifty five or whatever. It
might be right now, maybe two or three spots are
really open. Yeah, yeah, you know, obviously injuries can happen
that can change the dynamic. But in reality, maybe three
slots are open, and most likely those slots will not
be determined during the preseason game. It'll be during practice

(49:34):
and what they're seeing day in and day out will
determine who makes a roster who doesn't.

Speaker 12 (49:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
So again, do we have preseason games in college football? No,
except just high school football.

Speaker 2 (49:44):
Any football? Is there anywhere else?

Speaker 1 (49:46):
I mean, the idea of preseason football, you know, one
hundred years ago, was we need to get these guys
in shape for the season.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
That's not the case anymore.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
So this is this is the problem right now. I'm
anxious for the football season to begin, and.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
Here we are.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
Hey, I wanted to ask about the gym Harbaugh situation. Okay,
So Jim Harbaugh gets nailed by the NCAA. So this
is the joke of the deal. And even his agent
mocked this by saying, okay, he has an eighty million
dollar contract in hand. He is now banned from being
a head coach at the college level for the next

(50:19):
four years. He's been banned from college football. Well that's
that's going to lose a lot of sleep over that.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
But is it like Michigan and honor him, Like, isn't
he gonna come back?

Speaker 1 (50:29):
Yes, he's going to be out there for They're just
throwing it right back in the NCAA's face by bringing
him out as the honorary captain for their opening game.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
Yeah, so this is just like it's a participation trophy here,
it's a participation discipline move here.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
Come on, man, what are you doing well?

Speaker 1 (50:46):
Does in any way? I mean, last year was just
a bizarre year for Michigan. Right, he was suspended to
start the season, then he was suspended to end the season,
and they're blowing people out and they end up winning
a national championship. Does all the Shenanigans lessen the impact?
They're not going to strip Michigan of a national championship.
I promise you. They'll have sanctions, they'll have this, that

(51:08):
and everything else, but they are not going to expel
Michigan from that national championship.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
Does it even matter? I No, I don't think it
diminishes it at all.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
I Mean the whole thing that they got that he
just got suspended for was because he spoke with players.

Speaker 1 (51:22):
During the COVID period.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
And I bought them launchers. Oh, come on, come on,
it's just ridiculous. You do have rules, I mean rules.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Sure, yeah, We've had a lot of rules about not
paying players, and then all of a sudden, the rules
have changed.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
I think a bigger concern right now for Jim Harbaugh
is he's got to figure out this Charger situation because
right now the Chargers, and I discussed it with some
of my son Garrett, who's a diehard Charger fan, they
have the weakest wide receiver corps in.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
The NFL right now. Yes, yes, yeah, and the see
Keenan Allen with that Bears uniform on. Yeah, that hurts
a little bit, little dagger. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
No matter how good your quarterback is, you still have
to have somebody to throw the ball to.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Yes, all right.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
Coming up on the other side, I want to get
a little baseball news in believe it or not, as
we're heading into the last couple of months of the season.
Later on the hour, we're going to get a full
NFL update. Adam Kaplan, our NFL inside has been going
to all the training camps and he's got a full
report on what's been going on there. This is Fox
Sports Saturday, Steve Hartman and Mantzi Belanias here Fox Sports

Speaker 2 (52:40):
Again.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
Just search Fox Sports Ready wherever you get your podcasts,
and you'll see the show posted right after we get
off the air. We had to wait a little bit,
but now he's ready to go joinny US right now
as he follows all the NFL training camps getting us
ready for the upcoming NFL season. Our NFL insider Adam
Kaplan is johnny Us right now. So Adam, during our

(53:01):
last segment, I was bringing up the fact with Monsey
that there has only been one quarterback to win the
Heisman Trophy as a quarterback in college and also make
it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a quarterback.
Roger Staubach. He's the only one, and he won the
Heisman Trophy over sixty years ago.

Speaker 7 (53:23):
Yeah, Davelcade.

Speaker 1 (53:25):
So Paul Horning technically was a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback
in Notre Dame, but got into the Pro Football Hall.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Of Fame as a running back.

Speaker 1 (53:32):
There have been a lot of Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks,
and this year, for the second time in the last
ten years, we have two guys drafted one two in
the draft that have won Heisman Trophies. We had it
obviously with Jamis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Now once again
we have it with Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels. Now,
I know they had their first taste of preseason football

(53:53):
and they showed some signs, But how do you account
for this? Because Monsey was asking me that, how do
you count the fact we've had all all these Heisman
Trophy winning quarterbacks coming to the NFL, and with the
exception of maybe Lamar Jackson, but you know, to me,
he's still going to have to win a Super Bowl
to get there. Why have they struggled to have the
same level of success in the NFL because they're college quarterbacks?

Speaker 13 (54:15):
Tim Teba, look at him, who I mean his throwing
motion was bad. He's just a great college quarterback. Josh Hypel,
you can go through all the Heisman candidates or Heisman
winner's very few of them are successful at the next level.

Speaker 7 (54:27):
It's because it's I like in college football to Triple
A baseball. It's not the major leagues. It's just a
different game.

Speaker 13 (54:34):
Hash Marks are different games different and you could be
great in that area, but not even be any good.

Speaker 7 (54:42):
I mean, Danny.

Speaker 13 (54:43):
Warfol You look at all the guys or product of systems,
but they don't make it the next level.

Speaker 7 (54:48):
It's a playing the quarterback position is the Harderson sports? Well?

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Is it different?

Speaker 7 (54:52):
Though?

Speaker 1 (54:52):
For Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams.

Speaker 7 (54:55):
Here's the thing with you.

Speaker 13 (54:56):
Okay, let's go to Caleb Williams who started today's first
start for the Bills in preseason right, and then they
won big. It doesn't really matter what the score was,
it's irrelevant. But Caleb Williams is playing in an offense
it's completely different than Cliff Kingsbury's offense at USC. Cliff
Kingsbury now is the Washington Commander's offense coordinator. He now
is playing in a West Coast system with Chicago. It's

(55:19):
gonna take time for him to get it. He's the
young question starter. He's not giving anything up. He's the starter.
But for him, and I know the odds makers think
they're gonna have given out an eight and a half
win total. I know the public thinks they're going to
be a winning team. We just need to be patient.
The expectations because he's the first pick overall, just like
with Bryce Young last year, are enormous.

Speaker 7 (55:39):
You just got to let the thing play out.

Speaker 13 (55:41):
He's very gifted, but he doesn't always play with instructure,
and the West Coast system is Gino Smith, by the way,
with Shane Waldron who's the Bears coordinator, and Shane did
a great job at Geno Smith to make him a
pretty confident starting quarterback. It didn't happen overnight. You got
to work with guys. You got to be patient. And
then with Jaden Daniels with Washington a couple of weeks ago.

(56:02):
He's going to start week one. They haven't named him started,
He's going to start week one. He's really gifted, he's
really smart, processes really well. Got to fill up, fill
out his upper body a little bit. By the way,
he also transfer from Arizona State.

Speaker 7 (56:13):
That's LSU.

Speaker 13 (56:15):
I think he's a more poff quarterback. To be honest
with you, he's just not it's just not as dynamic.

Speaker 7 (56:19):
If as Caleb.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
Williams Adam help me understand the situation with Brandon, I
yuk and I'm after sure, who's helping me?

Speaker 7 (56:26):
You could take an hour? Yeah, I'll give you a
cliff notes. Leat me out.

Speaker 2 (56:29):
It's obviously not money.

Speaker 3 (56:31):
He could have gone and gotten money with the Patriots
right and decided no, I'm okay.

Speaker 10 (56:34):
I want to go there.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Yeah, So what is it? What is happening? Is he
a forty nine er? What do we help me understand?

Speaker 13 (56:40):
Well, he's on a contract. Okay, he's on to SITH
your option. Here's what you gotta understand the nineers. Really,
every time I've been on FSR, really since the draft,
I kept telling people they don't really want to trade him,
but they're not going to pay him what he wants
and I don't. I never got the feeling that I
doesn't want to be there. It's just that he's frustrated.
Him and his agent are you know, that's why they

(57:00):
asked for a trade. They didn't you didn't see any
quotes out there. They did it professionally, but there are
at loggerheads with the club. They're just they're not going
to get there. The contract that I've told people that
he's wants is the AJ Brown contract, thirty two million
a year. He's not getting that with the Niners. It's
never going to happen. It's because of the situation he's in.

(57:22):
He's got to share the ball with Deebo, Samuel, George Kittle,
Krista McCaffrey, Ricky Piersoll by the way, the first round pick. Unfortunately,
he's hurt right now. Oh and they brought back Juwan
Jennings the third receivers. He's never going to put up
numbers to justify thirty two million year. It's not his fault.
He knows if he wants to get it, he's got
to be traded. The Browns would pay him, the Steelers

(57:43):
would pay him. Although it's really not the contract. I
think it's the compensation that the Niners want back. That's
how going to hold it up. But it's months. It's
a shame. I mean it's a shame. It's it's one
of these rare situations where the the club and the
player would like to deal with each other, but they
know they cannot find a resolution. I don't see a

(58:04):
middle ground here. It's a like the Almond Roths Saint
Brown contract. I know people brought that up and it's
not going to work. It's heavily backloaded. AJ Brown's contract's
legitimate thirty two million year has now his first extension
with Eagles is not.

Speaker 7 (58:16):
It was heavily backloaded. This one's a.

Speaker 13 (58:18):
Pretty legit thirty two million a year. It's just I
don't see it. I don't see it getting resolved. They
want to get back to the super Bowl. That's why
they've never wanted to trade him, as I said, since May.

Speaker 2 (58:29):
And it seems like he doesn't want to leave either.

Speaker 10 (58:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (58:30):
I go, yeah, it's a really weird I mean again,
I'm giving the cliff Notes version.

Speaker 7 (58:34):
There's a lot more here. I know the Steelers really like.

Speaker 13 (58:37):
Them talking to sources there, but they and by the way,
I would tell you, they do contracts a specific way.
Not every agent really will deal with those type of contracts.
They give it high average per season, they don't like,
they don't like guaranteeing future years.

Speaker 7 (58:52):
It's it's a real shame. It really is. Not of
the k not just have the Trent Williams situation. He's
a holdout. They got a lot to deal with right now.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
After the catastrophe of the first round of quarterbacks three
years ago, where four of the five quarterbacks are no
longer with the team that drafted them, we go with
the six quarterbacks, you know, first twelve picks in this draft.
And I look at the bow Nick situation in Denver,
JJ McCarthy with the Vikings. I mean, obviously there they
were drafted to be projected as the future starting quarterbacks

(59:20):
for those two teams. And how do you stand on this, Adam,
as far as when is the right time you just
throw them to the fires, handing the ball game one
and let's see what happens. I mean, in both these cases,
they're sort of thrown around the preseason that yeah, it's
an open competition. We got some you know Stidam or

(59:42):
you know, we got guys have been around. How do
you think and really it's a decision made by these
coaches as well, But how do you think it's going
to play out with bo Nix and JJ McCarthy in
terms of how soon they will be handed the starting job?

Speaker 13 (59:57):
All right, this is a great subject and I've had
these discussions for twenty years with personal executives and quarterback
coaches and offense coordinators.

Speaker 7 (01:00:04):
There's never any one answer.

Speaker 13 (01:00:05):
But I think clubs now I just know if I'm
talking to him are way more willing to start them
early than they were when I first started in the league.
And you could give examples. Alex Smith was clearly not
ready to start now. Unfortunately, he lost Mike McCarthy his
first offense coordinator because he became the Packers head coach
and North Turner and others and kind of hurt his career.
And he eventually become a good quarterback later in score

(01:00:28):
with the Niners and special with the Chiefs. But I
think what you have to do is you have to
understand where the kid is with a maturation process. How's
the process and which means, okay, how do you read
a defense?

Speaker 7 (01:00:39):
And if you think.

Speaker 13 (01:00:40):
He's just way away, don't play him. But if you
think he could handle it, don't worry about the growing paints.
You throw him in there and you don't worry about
Look at Peyton Manning sat a record for interceptions in
the season second half of that seat his rookie season.
I think he had maybe twenty eight picks, but he
was phenomenal the second half.

Speaker 7 (01:00:57):
He saw him. He just saw him get better. Now
let's look at it.

Speaker 13 (01:01:00):
You got to look at individually bow Knicks, who, if
we're being honest here, was probably overdrafted. I know a
lot of teams had mid second round grades on him,
but it only matters what the Denver Broncos thought.

Speaker 8 (01:01:11):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (01:01:11):
Talking to his closest situation, Drew, Sean Payton saw him
a little bit as like Drew Brees, because Drew Brees
was a second round pick. Let's not forget that. But
with stadium you mentioned him Zach Will, so they're not
the answer. Bow Knicks is the future of quarterback for
this football team. It's the first time Sean Payton is
really going to be working and developing a really good

(01:01:32):
or not good, but a young quarterback who's got upside.
You remember he kind of inherited Drew Brees, and of
course they worked great together and Sean did a great job.

Speaker 7 (01:01:39):
Now let's go over to let's go to J. J. McCarthy.

Speaker 13 (01:01:42):
JJ McCarthy's another guy. I know teams had third round
grades on him. Pretty good athlete, no ideal arm, strength,
has good size, He's a timing based quarterback. When everything's
line up right, he looks like he could play in
the position. By the way they run a West Coast
offensive timing offense, the processing with him is not quite there.
I'm told Sam Darnold knows this offense. He played in

(01:02:04):
it last season, or there was a backup last season
for the Niners.

Speaker 7 (01:02:07):
In it.

Speaker 13 (01:02:08):
He's ahead of McCarthy, there's no doubt. But I could
tell you if I'm talking to people who work with Donald.
Eventually it becomes a problem with the processing and he
doesn't know what to do with the football and he
gets hit, he scrambles and throws the ball away. It's
not going to work for very long. By weeks three
or four, McCarthy should be the starter. So let's bring
this forward here. How do you know in the classroom,

(01:02:29):
I'm talking to quarterback coaches and coordinators. You're in the classroom.
And by the way, it's a football decision. It's an
organizational decision. It's not one department's decisions, not the front
office's decision. It's a group decision. And Steve, you hit
it right. It's the people working with him day to day,
typically the quarterback coach. And I know talking to John d. Filippo,
who was the Eagles quarterback coach in sixteen and seventeen

(01:02:53):
developed Carson Wentz. I remember Flip telling me you kind
of knew it about late August, you know what, I
think he's ready, but he did say you never truly
know until they get in there. But the answers they
were given to the tests are pretty good. You're like,
you know what we could we could deal with the
ones that they're not getting right and just work with them.

Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Last one for me, Adam Jerry Jones, is it just
his ego?

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
Like because I feel like he's going to pay CD
of course and Dak Prescott, So like, why are we
saying is it just his ego that he's just like,
I'm going to do it when.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
I want to do it, not you think I'm going
to do it when I want to do it.

Speaker 7 (01:03:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 13 (01:03:29):
See, it's really weird that it's the most valuable franchise
in the National Football.

Speaker 7 (01:03:33):
Likegue one of the two or three most valuable in
professional sports. They've got the money and mantie.

Speaker 13 (01:03:38):
I don't know if it's so much ego it's the
I mean, in a way, it might be maybe thinks
that they somehow they could not pay him Justin Jefferson's deal.
As I keep telling people, it doesn't matter what Jerry thinks, right,
you could looks and I think if you if you
polled thirty one other teams or thirty other teams, I
think they would tell you Justin Jefferson's a better player.
It doesn't matter because the numbers are very similar to

(01:04:00):
Nuver's based business.

Speaker 7 (01:04:01):
They're gonna have to.

Speaker 13 (01:04:02):
Pay him thirty five million a year or it's not
getting done. And by the way, the Dak Prescott deal,
if it got done now, he's going to get fifty
seven to sixty million. If he waits till next year,
you look at sixty five to seventy million.

Speaker 7 (01:04:12):
I know.

Speaker 13 (01:04:12):
I know his agent, Todd Franci's incredible, like he will
he don't care, he'll push teams. And you know Brian
Burns didn't get the Daily one with Caroline. He got
with the Giants, by the way, he got exactly what
he was looking for. So and he has Todd Franz.
It's this is listen, there's a reason why the Cowboys
haven't gotten anywhere in really in almost twenty five years.
They draft, well now, they draft certain type of players,

(01:04:35):
but they don't go anywhere. And the longer you wait, guys,
it hurts your cap. The Cowboys a have had a
cap issue.

Speaker 7 (01:04:42):
For a while.

Speaker 13 (01:04:43):
I don't I don't know why they do things the
way they do it. It's one of these teams, manci,
where they cause more trouble than it's worth.

Speaker 7 (01:04:50):
I don't know why they continue to wait. It's really so,
it's really foolish.

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
Well again, when you think about the level of talent
that they have acquired over the last thirty years, almost
thirty years since even to a conference championship game, much
less won a Super Bowl. No one has done less
with more than the Dallas Cowboys over the last thirty years.

Speaker 13 (01:05:09):
And the coaches always feel the brunt of it. And
Mike McCarthy lame duck coachyah, and the last.

Speaker 7 (01:05:14):
Year was fifth. This is his fifth year.

Speaker 13 (01:05:16):
Yeah, they brought up Mike Zimmer for defense. It's it
could get ugly folks. Now, By the way, we've not
had a repeat winner in the NFC since two thousand
and four, which yea is ridiculous, but it's true.

Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Andy reid relll off four straight one four back in
the day. Adam great stuff is always thanks so much.
We'll check in with you next week.

Speaker 7 (01:05:35):
Sounds good. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:36):

is trending right now? Well, that's going on here. Chris
Purfett is switching seats here?

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
What Chris?

Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
How are you dimentional Shenanigans? That's what I tied up
to science fiction things of that nature.

Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
This is required of people in this building. You have
to be able to wear many different hats on a
moment's notice.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
Steve, I've only been wearing one hat today, and it's
my as Roma hat. I know that there's only one
hat on me. I know the second hat.

Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
We've talked about this a lot with Chris that he
is the ultimate Olympics junkie. Has this Olympic Games lived
up to the hype absolutely?

Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
I get asked, I you know, I know you were skeptical.
We had talked about this before that you were skeptical
when it started. I've loved everything Paris has put on
and it's been a very international atmosphere in Paris. I
think if you're gonna take one thing away from what
Paris has done versus others, from the opening ceremonies we
had Rofen Nadal, non French people carrying the torch, to

(01:07:05):
everything that's gone on from to even the breaking competition
where we have Snoop Dogg. Everything has screamed international, Parisian
and just beautiful. And from that we move over to
the dagger.

Speaker 9 (01:07:18):
Doctor Curry dancing up until over to the double team.

Speaker 7 (01:07:26):
That's a golden right.

Speaker 4 (01:07:29):
Steph Curry NBC on the call, on the call there,
Steph Curry coming alive eight of twelve from three in
this game, with four coming in those final minutes. You
just heard the last one there to put the dagger
in Team France. Final score was excuse me for a second,
eighty ninety eight to eighty seven, and that makes the

(01:07:49):
fifth straight gold medal for Team USA basketball in these Olympics.
Both American men and women took home gold in the
four by four hundred medal Relay Today Relay Today, and
that has bumped up the metal count Team USA with
thirty eight gold medals one hundred and twenty two medals total.
They still trailed China in gold, who has thirty nine

(01:08:09):
host France with sixty two medals sixteen gold. One of
the more interesting storylines coming today, Steve, We've talked about this.
Shelby me McEwan men's US American high jumper had a
chance to share gold, much like they did back in
twenty twenty, but with Katar and Italy and in said

(01:08:31):
decided to take his opponent New Zealand's care into a
jump off. Miss All missed most of his jumps and
Kerr ended up taking it two point.

Speaker 1 (01:08:41):
Three five yearsdam one full gold.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Muchan.

Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
If you're an American, you're not playing for a tie, Moncie.

Speaker 4 (01:08:48):
If I was an option like it was a chance
to tie the Chinese, I.

Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Mean, I'm with Steve. I'm with Steve. I'm just saying
that if I was in that position, I was like,
I don't think I'm a win. I'm kind of tired. Yeah,
let's split gold. Yeah their legs were beat up. The
Oh yeah, what.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
I'm saying, I really want to split gold because I'm tired.

Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
USA Soccer wins gold in Paris, overcoming Brazil one nil.
Mallory Swanson early second half goal was the key here,
bringing the Americans back to some glory that they've kind
of been missing since their last generation retired. Final day
coming up here USA at the Olympics in Paris, USA
women will be playing for gold in basketball against France

(01:09:28):
nine thirty am Eastern. In NFL preseason action, Caleb Williams
debut with Chicago Bears four of seven ninety five yards.
His best play coming is he escaped the pressure and
found DeAndre Swift for a forty two yard pass. Two
more rookie quarterbacks to talk of. Jayden Daniels had a
very limited run with the Commanders as they played the
Jets in preseason. Two of three forty three yards, scoring

(01:09:51):
a three yard rushing touchdown to top it off. Raiders
at Vikings. JJ McCarthy with a very extended action here
eleven for seventeen one hundred and eighteen yards, two touchdowns,
one interception for the rookie, even though I believe the
Vikings intend to play Sam Darnold to start the year.
San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins are currently in

(01:10:14):
extra innings ted eight a piece. Tying run came from Miami.
Jake Berger with a game tying home run. Rangers at
Yankees double header today. Yankees took the first game eight zero,
but dropped the second to Texas nine to four, which
means that the Baltimore Orioles now have a chance to
move a top alone to the Al East. That game

(01:10:35):
currently on Fox in the second inning, Baltimore leading Tampa
three zero. And finally, in golf, Windham champions Ship second
round the PGA Tour, the second rounds wrapping up here.
We've got a three way tie atop the leaderboard and
minus eleven Chad Rami and Matt Kuchar sixty four a

(01:10:56):
piece in the second round. Matt Grazerman coming out here
shooting sixty sixty sixty. Okay, Monsey, Steve back to you,
all right, Chris.

Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Thank you very much. Tremendous job today. By the way,
we had to handle that. Chris, well done.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
Let me ask you this, Moncey.

Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
By the way, once again we're live from the tire
rack dot com studios. Who has stood out as the
star of these Olympics for you, Simone Biles, that would
be a popular choice, right, Simone Biles. Definitely.

Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
It's interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
We were mentioning earlier about this Australian woman in her breakdance.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
She's a star for negative reasons.

Speaker 7 (01:11:35):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
At one of the guys that was a brief star
for a moment was Clark Kent. Yes, the kid on
the pommel horse then whipped the glasses off and won
the first US medal on that apparatus in forty years.

Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
By the way it came out, he got.

Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
Drug tested after that. Really he's okay, he didn't lose anything,
but they're like, how did you do that? We weren't
expecting that because that was his only event.

Speaker 12 (01:12:00):
The problem, right, a special expecting that? I mean, yeah,
and I don't know I Simone Biles, absolutely, it emerges
as a star. Katie Ledecki obviously continued her dominance.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Yes, no Liles, Noah, Liles. By the way, I didn't
ask you this. I'm going to ask you now.

Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
So, as it turned out, he competed in the two
hundred meters, which, by the way, is his specialty. His
victory in the hunter meters wasn't one hundred percent expected,
but he was expected to dominate the two hundred meters
and he ends up with the bronze and then we
find out he had COVID. He had a fever one
hundred and two, and it's like wow, to do that.

(01:12:41):
And by the way, he's asthmatic as well with COVID,
so I mean he's asthmatic. So that's an amazing feat.
But there were others saying, why exactly are you out
on the track exposing others to COVID.

Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
I didn't think of that.

Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
I was wondering why he was pumping up the crowd
right before the race. Everybody's at there like block like
they're about to start, and he's jumping up and down,
getting the crowd into it. And I was like, save
your energy, Like that's what if you are sick, how
are you doing that?

Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Well he was more than sick.

Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
I mean he had to be taken off in a
wheelcare because.

Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
When you're sprinting and you're out of breath with those
chest pains, of course, but he was definitely not feeling
terrible in that moment he.

Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Was bumping up the crowd. I would have been holding
my energy sleeming well.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
There are still a lot of people that believe that
he put others at risk by taking, you know, getting
it out. I'm not one of them, by the way
I mean, but I mean there are that believe that
he put others at risk by even being out there
with these other competitors with COVID.

Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
Yeah, that's not a lie.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
If I'm standing here, even with the cold, doing the
show with you, I'm putting you.

Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
In danger of getting the cold.

Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
When I had partners in the past that come into
the building sick, obviously sick, and I'm like like, why, look,
I want you. It's more than I want you to
get better. I don't want you to get me sick
or anybody else in those do not show up six.

Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
Especially in this where we're like yelling at each other.
Literally it's just spinning at each other.

Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
Well that's what we do, yeah, we do.

Speaker 11 (01:14:10):
So.

Speaker 1 (01:14:11):
But you had no problem with him racing with COVID.

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
I did not. I did not. I'm not gonna lie,
I think if I would have had it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
I would have tried to do it myself. Right, You're
at the Olympics. Come on, like we're just talking about
there's no tie.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
You at the Olympics. You go for it, you go.

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
He was an amazing competitor and his winning the Honor
meters was one for the ages, no question about that.

Speaker 7 (01:14:32):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
Coming up on the other side, put a rap on
these Olympic Games and also look ahead to another big
week in sports. This is Fox Sports Saturday. I love
it USA. Will usay end up with the most gold?
That's the only question remaining.

Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
It's close, very close.

Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
So one gold medal difference between China in the United
States of America.

Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
But do they have any more gold medal competitions tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
I don't know what China has. I know a US
has right right, because they have gold medal matches in
women's volleyball, women's basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
They're not playing China in those.

Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
No, China just keeps picking up gold medals. I don't
know where are these gold I mean I saw them
in diving. I mean they don't they won eight for
eight on the men and the women there didn't they
We saw one today weightlifting. I saw weightlifting. They actually
had some gigantic Chinese guy and he won the gold

(01:15:36):
medal in one of the weight classes. But I don't
know what else they're winning in. I'd have to look
it up. Once again, we're live from the Tirak dot
com studios. We had musical chairs today, so we had
Nick here, but Nick had to go to do a
UCLA event, so Chris moved from running the board into
the update booth. So double duty for Chris today. Mary

(01:15:58):
Mack of course coming in, which we always love our
Mary Mack and and the steady hand. Today of course,
Patrick just producing his ass off and and.

Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
He's my daddy.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
Today he came up with a really good first time.
I was scrambling in my head, Ron McDole, is the
right answer, I'm not questioning that was the right answer.
Was which defensive lineman had the most career interceptions? Yeah,
and I kept I kept going back to Jason Taylor
because I know he has. He actually has I think
the most touchdowns of any defense a line or tie

(01:16:29):
the whare I had four defensive touchdowns as a defensive lineman.

Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
But did you have what's the name of the guy here?
Mcdd Was he in your thought process. I couldn't find him.
I couldn't find I could find Roy Green, you did,
and I could find some others.

Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
Today he could not find for the life of me,
Ron McDole, former Bill, former Washington as they were then known.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
A Redskins. I mean, just real quick. China has won
five gold medals and table.

Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
Tennis okay, so table tennis five eight and diving.

Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
Five and shooting, which is what I thought. I thought
I saw the ladies win in shooting. I saw that one.

Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
What else? Weightlifting?

Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
US four, boxing, three, artistic gymnastics DULs that's two, swimming
to badminton, to artistics, swimming to cano, sprint to tennis
one freestyle BMX one and then it yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Okay, so well the US and again I am old school,
so track and field still reigned supreme for me. And
it has been a better than expected hall for the
United States in track and field, or athletics as they
like to call.

Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
It, right, athletics, Yes, the USA, it's listed athletics fourteen fourteen.

Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
USA, yes for good is an amazing total.

Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
Yeah, swimming, eight, artistic gymnastics three, wrestling to fencing, two,
shooting one road cycling one.

Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Rowing, weightlifting, one basketball there.

Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
It is, yes, but we need another basketball and we
need a volleyball and we.

Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Yeah, Italy is good, but I think USA can can
win in volleyball well and in basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
We're expecting it so well that one.

Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
As I said before the Olympics, again, I have almost
no recall of three years.

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
Ago that you're not the only one. You're not the
only I.

Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
Mean the Tokyo Olympics, which were delayed a year because
of the COVID situation. They still call it Tokyo twenty
twenty even though it was twenty twenty one, which is confusing,
but that is what it is. And I just that
just passed without nearly a notice. I mean, I don't
remember much of anything from those Olympics, but it's a blur.

Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
I remember someone Bios not being able to.

Speaker 12 (01:18:31):
Compete, yes, right, because she had remember vertical situations twisty
Twisty's right back in the day, and it was there
needs to be a different.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Name of that, But these Olympics.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
No. And Paris is such a beautiful city, it really is.

Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
I mean it's hard.

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
It's hard to beat the visuals of the city of Paris.

Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
It seems that way with all the pictures I've never
been obviously you have. You love it. Your daughter's named Paris. Well,
that's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
I've been able to see my daughter's name just plas
everywhere everywhere, Paris.

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:19:00):
Well, now, after these Olympics, we get to turn the
page now to our football season, and let's not forget baseball,
No we can't. You know, we were talking off here
about what's going on with the Dodgers, right yeah, Show, Hey,
Otani could win the Triple Crown in the National League
this year as a pure DH But is there a
possibility with all the injuries and problems that the Dodgers
had with their pitching staff, because we've been told there's

(01:19:22):
no way, Show, he's going to pitch until next year.
Is there any chance that he could have an opportunity
this season?

Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
There's a story out there that, yes, that he wants
to try and come back and pitch, and I'm hoping
that that was just the Dodgers putting that information out
there to scare O their teams, and that that's it's
all lie because that's a desperate move. And I know
desperate times call for desperate desperate measures. But the Dodgers
cannot throw him out.

Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
Well again, you got him long term, and you brought
him in knowing that he wasn't going to pitch this year.
But I don't think they expected to sit here two
and a half games ahead of the Podres, three and
a half ahead of the Diamondbacks. They thought, with all
the moves they had made, that they would run away
at least with the n wes. And that's not I
dare say. If things don't go right, they could miss

(01:20:05):
the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
Stop it, stop it. But yes, it's a scary times.

Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
They got Mooeback Movie's back. But Padres and Diamondbacks are
playing well right now. They're they're not figuring things out.
The Dodgers are figuring things out. That's the problem.

Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
It's going to be an interesting stretch run in baseball
with a lot of NFL news coming up. For all
the stories, no matter the sport, this is the place
to be.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
We are Fox Sports Radio.
