tyrack dot com The way tire buying should be. You

(00:25):
heard the band Jason Martin Arnie Spaniard for Aaron Torres
here on Fox Sports Radio. Good evening, Jason Martin.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Now you doing tonight, buddy?

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Doing? All right? How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Just just strolling on in now ready to roll? Got
a lot of a lot on the plate tonight. What
did you do today, by the way, busy weekend, busy
day or what?

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Yeah, well that's some family stuff. But outside of that,
I was able to watch most of the gold medal
basketball game, which was pretty entertaining. In terms of preseason football.
It's a thing that's happening. I don't know how closely
I'm paying attention to it right now, but I know
generally what's going on. I know we'll talk about it,

(01:07):
but I just I find it hard to get too
up or two down based on anything that's happening in preseason.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
No, and we'll get to that. And by the way,
later on in the show, I will tell you Ben
Mallor came to visit me up here in Vermont, Burlington, Vermont.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I'll tell you stories from that.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I don't get there. I don't get to have too
many visitors up here. I had Brian Noah a couple
of years ago and now Ben Maller so in the
last like twelve years. Those are the only two people
I've seen from Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
So he actually did visit you. He didn't just come
to the area.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
No, Yeah, he came visit. He only came up strictly
for me. Twenty four hours. We went out, we had lull.
I made him buy me lunch, I made him buy
me coffee, and then I showed him around a little
bit and then he took off and flew back to Sandals.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Well, based on the fact you said you let him
buy you lunch and coffee, that might be why you've
only had a couple of visitors in twelve years.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
No, it was great to see man. We had a
good time.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I'll tell you about some of the stuff we did,
and it was a lot of fun having him up here.
Like I said, I don't get to see too many
guys from Fox Sports Radio. Obviously I live on the
other side of the world. It seems like, actually I do,
don't I and I haven't made it back to Los
Angeles in a while, so I'll tell you about that
later on.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
We do have a lot to get to.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
If you want to be part of the show, real simple,
you could do it through Twitter, j Mart Radio. I'm
a stinking genius one, so you get in that way.
I don't know if you like to take phone calls, Jason,
but if you want to get it, if there's nothing
so desperately on your mind, you've got to go ahead
and get it off your mind. Eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine. You know, one time in my career, Jason,

(02:51):
that's all I used to do is take phone calls.
I used to take like thirty forty an hour and
spin them out out and then just churn them out out.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
So those were the good days. I thought.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
The sports radio has changed a lot since then, my friend.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
You know what I mean, no doubt, Yeah it is.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
It's changed.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
How many times do you think it has changed, like
in terms of just the sea change of how it's done.
Like it does feel like it's it's even in my like,
I don't know. I guess you'd say twelve years or
so that I've been doing it. It's probably it probably
feels like it's moved around three four different times during
that time span.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Oh yeah, yeah, especially now with the end, with the
invention of now the you know, the podcast and the
video cast and and all kinds of stuff, things are
changing around.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
I mean, it's it's.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Absolutely evolved like crazy, especially since I've gotten into it,
which makes me an old man. But I'll forget about
that a lot to get to. As you mentioned you
saw the basketball game today. I got to tell you
this Olympics just to start off with that. Watching the
basketball has been so much more enjoyable than any NBA.

(03:58):
And forget if I'm a Nick's fan, or if I
want the Lakers to win or whatever, take away whoever
my favorite team is, take away whoever is your favorite team?
These six games or whatever it's been have been fantastic,
and some have been blowouts, but they've been so enjoyable
to watch. I don't know if it's because we're watching

(04:19):
an All Star team and they're so great or what
it is, or because there's been some real cliphangers of
the last couple of games, at least this one was
a little bit. But it's been phenomenal and we've had
some great performances. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is this
has been so much fun to watch there, Jason.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, you know, I've only watched the last couple with
any real like close eye, right, but just just paying
attention with everything that was going forward. It is always
good to see the country like all these all these
guys that go at it's so hard during the regular
season and during the playoffs, just all unified, like watching

(05:00):
Bron throw down and then look over and you see
the All Stars on the sidelines going crazy for him.
That usually you know he's in their face, and here
they're all playing together. It's different. I do think the
game these games have been it's not even that they've
been more competitive, even though they have. It's just the
level of physicality and desire. It definitely doesn't feel like

(05:20):
you're just showing up like these guys did want this,
Like Steph kurkd pretty clear this is the one thing
on his resume he wanted was a gold medal, and
he actually played the key role as France was tightening
it up late. I mean when Mignanna is everything and
then some Oh he was phenomenium, but they just needed
a little bit more. They had two guys and that

(05:44):
just wasn't quite enough. But Steph made every big shot
down the stretch. Even he said he was special, right.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I just look, you're right there right when you said that,
because I don't know if if you're thinking the way
I'm thinking. But if one thing happens, we're doing three
hours on this show about it. And that was that
last three pointer by Steph Curry, which was really ill advised.
I mean, yeah, I know he made three in a row,
and I was loving it just as much as everybody else.
There were two guys open to the left. One was

(06:11):
Lebron one was Kevin Durant. He really just chucked that up.
He misses that. I think it was a four point
lead at that point. Could you imagine he misses out
and we lose What do you think we're talking about
for the next three hours? Forget about the three that
he had. I'm ripping him for taking that terrible shot
in the last one, but thank goodness it went in.

(06:33):
That was a real tough one, Jason. That was crazy.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Yeah, it was, and it definitely got tighter than you
would have wanted it to down the stretch. And France
is gonna be here for a while because France had,
you know what, two were the top five draft picks
this year, and of course they had Win Mignona last year,
so I mean they are starting to churn out guys.
Of course you're getting to watch Rudy Gobert cheering on
the sidelines because he wasn't able to play. But I

(06:57):
think that you have the international game, like you look
at the Servia game. For example, Yokiz showed why he's
won multiple MVPs and why he easily could have won
another one this year. He's special, he's different, he's unique.
But you are seeing just across the board there are
several countries with NBA superstars on the roster, and I

(07:20):
do think that makes it more interesting. It just does
the ninety two Dream Team. We aren't watching a whole
lot of dudes from anybody else or anywhere else that
you're gonna see in the NBA. Maybe one, but nothing,
nothing like what you're seeing now with the international game,
which of course is why the NBA draft ends up
being so dull, because we don't know what to make
of most of these guys. But then you get into

(07:43):
international play and it makes it more exciting because you're
seeing NBA level games with Actually it feels like so
much on the line and so much unity on both sides,
even MB getting booed out of the joint because he
decided to play for America and for France. Stuff like that.
Like there's it was fun. It was just it was

(08:04):
a lot of fun. It really was.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
You know, I'm gonna push back on the narrative that
everybody else is catching up to us, because let me
ask you this, Could it be the fact that maybe
the other teams view this as their game of the
lifetime and played great. Can maybe also we went through
a lot of quarters being sloppy out there and didn't
play that well. And the reason I bring that up, Yeah,

(08:26):
the games were close, but Vegas doesn't make mistakes often,
and you're gonna sit here to tell me game after
game after game they made mistakes. The line was seventeen
and a half in this game. In the Sauth Sudan game,
it was like forty three points where they won by one.
In that I think the first exhibition game, all kinds

(08:46):
of lines. All you have to do is bet against
the United States on the point spread, and I think
you would have done very well.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Was Vegas making.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
A mistake here, or really is everybody caught up to
the United States, or just maybe we didn't play that
well and the other team played out of their mind.
A Zerbia, we had no business, would he not get
I didn't think we were gonna come back about thirteen
points in the fourth quarter. So I'm really not sure
how to make it because the point spreads were still
very large out there.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Jason, Yeah, I mean I wouldn't say well, I mean,
I think multiple things can be true. There have certainly
been some down moments, but I don't think there's any
question that other countries are fielding much more competitive rosters,
better rosters, And I think that all you have to
do is just look again at the NBA Draft and

(09:32):
the amount of teams that are taking shots on guys
from overseas, even guys that don't end up panning out
or don't end up making it over here.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
There's just more there's a wealth.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
There's more of a wealth of talent there, and I
think that basketball has become more paramount in some of
these other countries.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
So you have guys that.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Are playing at younger and younger and are a little
bit more skilled than they used to be. Now that
doesn't mean that this team USA has been just crazy
great the entire time and all of that. I think
that both things could be true. I think that the
teams that they're playing are better. But I also do
think that there have certainly been moments where you could

(10:08):
raise the rock eyebrow and you know, kind of look
at it and say, I don't know what that was.
There do seem to be every once in a while
it just kind of there's a down, not even really
a down moment, there's just kind of a couple of
minutes that are a little sloppy, like you mentioned, or
that international team whoever it is, just really wants it

(10:29):
for that couple of minutes and they do it. But
the difference is the US still has the other gear,
and that other gear is something that I still don't
see internationally. When they actually hit that gear, they come
back down from down seventeen and beat Serbia.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
That which was absolutely crazy. Right question of the hour,
you tell me might not be a hard question out there.
Should we be a little bit embarrassed that we're a
forty three point favorite witting by a point and seventeen
point favorite Witting in the finals we won by eleven,
but we had the pull way that was so close?
Should we be in bearrassed? The games were close? Or
a goal is a goal that makes no difference whatsoever,

(11:06):
how close the games were.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
I mean the one South Sudan, I mean that's a
that's a tune up game that you can almost you
can almost excuse the lack of effort there. I mean,
you still win by double digits. It's the home country,
and they've got last year's number one draft pick in
the Rookie of the Year, and this guy that's gonna
be all world and maybe the best player in the

(11:28):
world in the next couple of years. I'm not I
still think that when it came down to it, the
US was better in the.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
Third and the fourth quarter. It was sixty one forty seven.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
At one point it looked like they're about to blow
them out, and every time credit France, they were able
to make a couple of buckets and tighten it up
and keep it within that like six to nine point
range as opposed to it ever blowing out to twenty.
If it blows out to twenty, it probably ends up
twenty five. I just I'm not going down the Shaquille O'Neil.
If they don't win by twenty, don't talk talk to me, right.

(12:01):
I don't think that that's helpful, and I don't think
it's necessary, and I don't really believe it's realistic. Uh,
the way everything is set up. Barkley's critique I found
more interesting, just as he says, I think that they're
blowing the rotations because the difference between Team USA in
the same way with the Dream Team was when we

(12:22):
go to our bench, we got you know, incredible level
All Stars. The depth is the difference. So you should
be utilizing that depth, giving Tatum more minutes, giving.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Uh Tyros horrible. His shooting's been miserable. It really has.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
You will get into that.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Because there's your anti Boston bias.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Even Bob Coosey got into that. But maybe maybe let's
just talk about the game for a second. USA wins
ninety eight eighty seven. It did get down the forest.
Steph Curry saved us. Without Steph, I don't even know
if we come back in the Serbia game, we hang
on to this. When he hit those four to three pointers,
that was just phenomenal. Even Tho lebron knew just get

(13:05):
him the ball. That was That was just a performance.
I was trying to think, is he the best shooter
I've ever seen in my life? A lot of people
maybe have not seen Pete Merivich, and I know he
was a great shooter a little bit before my time,
but I saw a little bit of him. Other than that,
Steph Curry is just phenomenal. But he wasn't having a

(13:25):
great day a day up to that point there, Jason,
but those four to row got us to gold medal,
got us through the Serbia game. This game was great
to watch. Lebron was phenomenal, Kevin Durant was great, A
Booker was good, everybody chipped in. It was It was
just a fun all the way around. But this game

(13:46):
was good and Steph saved us. I believe in this one.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yeah, I mean, And that's the difference is Steph's gonna
keep on shooting because that's what he does. He might
have a bit of an off night, but down the stretch,
I still want the ball.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
In his hands.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Like him or Durant are.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
The guys I want taking that shot.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
And he makes four to row gets red hot, and
when Steph gets hot, there's no stopping him. I've seen
that where they've been down twenty during the glory days
of the Warriors, and he and Klay just shoot him
right back into the game. So even on a night
where he didn't have maybe his best stuff early, he's
just gonna stick with it because his shooting stroke and

(14:23):
his rhythm and his confidence, he's gonna get it back.
I mean it's similar in a different way, but it's
similar to like Caitlin Clark's gonna keep shooting and eventually
they're going to start falling. There are some people where
you pull the green light and say stop shooting the ball,
tell Steph Curry to stop shooting three.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
No.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
No, But that doesn't mean you should be taking ill
advice shots like that's all true. The gold medals on
the line. We have all Hall of famers on the court.
I think I want Lebron driving to the bucket, or
maybe Kevin Durant short jumper before I want Steph throwing
one up, but he was, he was red hot.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
What else can you do?

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Right? Yeah, I mean that's right. And then but again
you get down there and him making four in a
row in that spot doesn't surprise anybody. Now, if he
misses them or we criticize them, of course we are
because that's what we do.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
Yeah, but he made the shots.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
I mean that's the difference. You don't criticize somebody when
they win a championship. You criticize them when they lose. Yeah,
you don't criticize the Rams for what they did, putting
themselves in salary cap hades for multiple years to acquire
a team that ends up winning the Super Bowl. If
the Bengals beat them that night, if they don't have
that final drive with Matthew Stafford and Cooper Cup, We're
still lighting up the Rams today because they wagered the farm,

(15:34):
but because they won, it didn't matter. I think the
same thing's true here with Tmosa.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
You want to jump in that, you can do it
through Twitter. J Martin Radio, I'm in stinking genius one.
We'll get to some of those a little bit later on.
How much does that gold medal mean to you. We're
going to ask Jason Martin. That's coming up next right

Speaker 2 (16:40):
All Right, good evening, everybody, Jason Martin, Arnie Spaniard, I'm
in for Aaron Torres on this busy Saturday here on
Fox Sports Radio. You want to be part of the show,
real simple, j Martin Radio, I'm in stinkin Genius one. Jason,
how much does this Gold Metal really mean to people
or mean to you or mean to the guys this

(17:00):
dream team here? What would you rather? Because I know
you're a big college guy. Would you rather lead your
favorite college to like a football championship and win a
championship in football? Would you rather win a gold medal?
Would you rather lead them to a championship in college
and basketball? Would you rather win an NBA championship, a

(17:24):
Super Bowl, a Stanley Cup, a World Series for your
favorite team, for your favorite city?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Or is the gold medal the optimum? What would you
rather have?

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Man, you just laid out a lot of potential scenarios.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I don't think it's real tough, but I know, I think.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
It's a championship in the sport. Yeah, I mean I
think yeah. I would say it's different when you look
at for example, Steph winning his first but if you're
talking about Lebron winning another one, right or something like that.
The problem for the United States, if we're looking at
basketball specifically, is the only thing that really is newsworthy

(18:06):
is if they lose.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Like, if you win, then you're just.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Doing what you're supposed to do, right, right, You're never
really giving credit for winning. This team played well a lot,
and they go undefeated and they win the gold, But
the only storyline is if they lose, if they lose
that game to Serbia, it creates content for weeks. Then
winning it'll be talked about in the a block of
TV on some shows, and then it won't be talked

(18:32):
about anymore. You'll move on, And that, I think is why,
Like if you win an NBA championship, you're talking about
that for a while, and you're still talking about it
going into next season. There's not really anything to talk
about now from the gold medal, the medal itself and
winning in the Olympics. I understand that it's valuable, but
as a player, what's the harder thing to do to

(18:53):
win a gold medal or to win an NBA title?
To me, it's the latter, because the level of competition
on a concert basis is so much stronger. I understand
like the value of the gold medal, even though I
don't think the Olympic gold medal means what it did
like for Mary leurettin back in eighty four, for example,

(19:14):
or even further back. I just think that sports has
changed in the landscape and the way we consume it
has changed such, but that's where it is for me.
I just think, like winning the NBA title, if you
could only do one. I think the title probably would
trump the medal in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
I'm chocked that you said that. Not only are you
probably in the minority, you're probably in the like ten
percent that thing like that. I think the rest of us,
the ninety percent out there is saying a gold medal.
I would rather have a gold medal than an NBA championship,
than a Stanley Couple World Series, a super Bowl, whatever

(19:51):
the up. The ultimate is, We'll keep it the basketball
NBA Championship. I'd rather have a gold medal if I
could only I have one or the other. That's especially,
like you said, it meant a lot more in the
seventies and eighties. I know, maybe he doesn't have that
same feeling because we've added so many borderline sports out there,

(20:12):
which really I think kind of waters it down. But
that's beside the point. I was shocked just said that.
I think most of our listeners would say, I'd rather
have a gold medal. That's that's what it's about, you
know what I mean, You'll remember the gold medal a
lot more than winning an NBA championship. I'm I'm shocked.
Jason Martin, Yeah, you have me speechless for crying out loud.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Yeah, I just I just feel like, if you're an
NBA player, the expectation is, yeah, I'm gonna go win
a gold medal, not I'm gonna have a struggle and
I'm gonna have to earn this gold medal.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
It's still and I don't know, maybe it's changed.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
Maybe these guys don't feel as entitled to the gold
medal because the game has I would say caught up.
Maybe that's the wrong way, but just it's become more
competitive internationally than it once was, but you still won
five in a row. Like it's it's much harder to
me to play against your peers on a night to

(21:09):
night basis and then go through a bunch of long
seven game series potentially or certainly best four out of
seven where you have all these different stories being told,
dealing with the injuries, dealing with all that. That's the
culmination of playing and finishing a story after six or
seven months of basketball, all of that kind of thing.

(21:29):
Or you go overseas for two weeks where you're where
the anticipation is you're going to win the gold. I
think maybe that's it. Like if it's a different sport,
or if it's or if it's a different country, I
would vastly change that. Like you all right, so let's
look at team USA soccer. If you ask me, do
you want to win the World Cup or do you

(21:52):
want to win like an MLS championship, I'd say give
me ten MLS championships and I'd still take the World Cup.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Okay, it's a little bit.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
It's a little bit different because of where we are.
It's because of where we stand in basketball that I
kind of It's not that I side out of the
gold medal. I just kind of look at it and say,
I don't know how much it can mean if everybody
in the country is just expecting you to win it.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
You know, it's interesting where you said that, because it's
so we're solving the favorites. You think Steve Kerr enjoys
this gold medal. It's more relief that they won the belief.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
I relief murdered.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
He gets murdered if they lose.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Oh yeah, I think he's like, thank god we won.
It wasn't like I'm so proud of this team and
we overcame everything. It was like, thank god Steph pulled
us out and we hung on and came back and
beat Serbia, and we hung onto the game against France,
and I bet you his heart was going a mile
a minute. I the stress of this. What a total relief,

(22:55):
I think Jason that they won this. I don't know
how much he's going to enjoy.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
It though, you know, yeah, well, I mean I think
you enjoy it now that it's over. But yes, it's relief,
especially considering he's already been questioned a little bit about
some guy's not getting certain playing time, and he's been
criticized here and there. But you go ahead and win
the gold and you move on from that, and that's
not gonna be much of a storyline going forward. Now

(23:19):
he's a guy that led Tysa to a gold medal.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
The thing that you can't do is lose.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
In that case, you can't be the coach that loses
with that level of talent on the floor, so you
dodge that. I'm sure he was sweating big time bullets
during that Serbia game. But them coming back to win
it and then finishing it off against the home country,
a team the Hungry and that is coming and has
a superstar in Wemby. I think now he can be

(23:48):
really excited about it, but during it definitely was a relief.
And even once that final horn sounds and they win
the gold, then he can finally exhale and enjoy it.
I don't think he enjoyed it much up until that point.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
We're getting a lot of tweets Paul Bill's Mafia Rights
and says, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing have two gold
medals and they never ever hear about is that they've
never won a title.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Give me the NBA title, man.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
If I said to Charles Barkley, give me back those
two gold medals, Patrick, give me back the gold medals,
and I'll give you guys an NBA championship. Wuld they
give you back the gold medals?

Speaker 4 (24:23):
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (24:24):
No?

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Yes, no, yes? What's the It still drives Barkley nuts
that he didn't win. Absolutely insane, Like you think about
he's one of the best basketball players ever, but that
is a blemish on the resume. Let's say Steph Curry
doesn't go and play this year, right, and in twenty
eight he's not one of the twelve guys that goes,

(24:44):
so he ends up his career without a gold medal.
What hurts your legacy more. Not having a gold medal
or not having an NBA championship. Well, I don't think
it's even close. I don't think we care. If you've
won a gold medal, it looks nice on the bio,
but if you go without a championship, that becomes an
asterisk you can't get rid of.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Wow, you know what I want to get more into that,
Why kurb made the decisions that he made, Why Tatum
in play?

Speaker 3 (25:12):
We have all that to get to.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
By the way, as the nation is struggling with rising expenses,
Fox Sports Radio and tirec dot Com if teamed up

Speaker 3 (25:22):
That's right.

(25:43):
next winner is going to be selected this Sunday night.
Enter daily and get the rules at Fox Sports Radio.
Dot com. That's Fox Sports Radio dot Com. Every day
you can register for a fresh new entry to boost
your chances of winning. It's all furnished by tirec dot Com.
It's the way tire Biden should be. You know, I
told you Jason Martin, I just got a brand new

(26:04):
Jeep a couple months ago, and I want to get
those big gnarly tires for my you know, when the
winner comes for the snow out of here. So I'm
gonna have to, you know, call tyre Rech dot com.
Have me said them out there? All right, we'll get Yeah,
we'll get more into the Olympics. This NB or this
gold medal win by Team USA, some of the moves
that Curb made.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
All that coming up next.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
But first, our first check in with our buddy Martin
Wise to see what's trending. What's going on, Martin.

Speaker 8 (26:32):
Not much just mentioning the Olympics. We'll get to that
in just a second. Let's start out with NFL preseason.
We had a couple debuts. Even though the preseason's not
quite as real as you'd.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Like to be. We saw a few rookies hit the
field today.

Speaker 8 (26:45):
Caleb Williams, he made his debut with the Bears four
for seven ninety five yards thirteen yards rushing. JJ McCarthy
was eleven for seventeen one hundred and eighteen yards, two
touchdowns an interception for the Minnesota Vikings. Brock Bauers in
the same game two catches twenty five yards at a
tight end that was Raiders first round pick Jade and
Daniels had it didn't play much for the Commanders two

(27:07):
for three forty five yards, scored a three yard rushing touchdown.
Marvin Harrison played even less. He only played three total snaps.
Preseason injuries of note mar Shawn Lloyd, Packers rookie running back.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
He left the game with an injury. Waiting to hear
back what that is new.

Speaker 8 (27:23):
Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown injured on the first play of
the preseason game.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Andy Reid Tels reporters.

Speaker 8 (27:29):
Brown shuffered a shoulder injury, comparing it to Tyreek Hills
a few years back in twenty nineteen. Tyreek ended up
missing four weeks after that, and the Dolphins lose reserve
offensive lineman Keon Smith to an acl teir.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
In Major League Baseball, Paul Skeins.

Speaker 8 (27:43):
Got knocked around early in Chavez Ravine as the Dodgers
lead the Pirates four to nothing, all four earned runs
on skeins there in the eighth inning. Now Mets and
the Mariners Seattle with a three to nothing lead. The
Mets are trying to keep pace with the Braves in
the National League playoff on and the wild card race.
Those same Brave team they beat the Rockies early earlier

(28:06):
eight to eleven Astros at the Red Sox Houston. Right
now atop the Al West Mariners with a half came
back Astros beat Boston five to four, Jordan Alvarez with
two home runs. And like you guys were just talking
about Team USA. Final score of that game ninety eight
to eighty seven. Steph Curry eight of twelve from three

(28:27):
to four, coming with under five minutes left to go
ahead and put the dagger in France. Fifth straight gold
medal for Team USA. Final day of the Olympics, wrapping
up tomorrow. It's been a fun watch, guys. Women's basketball
would be the last event in USA playing for gold
against France. It's a basically a doubleheader men and women

(28:49):
back to back days. In the four by four hundred
meter relay, both American men and women's teams took on
the gold medal. Women's soccer US win's the gold over
Brazil to nothing Mallory Swanson with the early second a
half goal and the total medal count team USA as
one hundred and twenty two medals total.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
They trail China.

Speaker 8 (29:10):
Well, I'm sorry, one hundred and twenty two medals total,
thirty eight gold medals.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
That trails China.

Speaker 8 (29:14):
They have thirty nine gold medals, France sixty two medals,
sixteen gold. So that means boys with a US women's
gold medal win tomorrow morning, nine thirty am Eastern, that
will tie China and the US.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
For the overall total gold.

Speaker 8 (29:32):
Medals at thirty nine a piece. If aga Willson Brown
a Stewart in the gang can go ahead and get
it done.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Back to you guys, all right, Martin, thank you very much.
Appreciate that. We'll hear from Martin later on next hour
as he comes in. He's got a lot of stories
that we probably will not have got to yet. I
am Arnie Spaniard, He's Jason Martin. I'm in Frere and
Torres on this busy Saturday night. If you want to
be part of the show at j Martin Radio. I'm
a stinking genius.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
One.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Bob Coosey said, Hey, Steve KERRZ got a biased against
the Celtics. That's why he's not playing Jason Tatum. Or
maybe because Jason Tatum didn't hit a regular, didn't hit
a three pointer, didn't hit a field goal, missed every
shot he took.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Could if that had been a reason.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I did scratch my head when he was the you know,
when he didn't play the first time around, then I'm
thinking maybe he just doesn't fit into the rotation. People
were criticizing Steve Kerr like crazy, especially in the South
Sudan game that we won by a point, then later
on when we barely beat Serbia, and a little bit

(30:36):
in this game also he was getting a lot of criticism.
Did he get things right because we won the gold?
Why didn't he play Tatum? Was it just a bad
fit or was Tatum just not playing well? I mean,
obviously he deserves it because he's he's an NBA All
Star and his team just won a championship. He was
a big part of the reason. Him and Jalen Brown.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
What were your thoughts on that?

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Jason interesting that he wasn't getting much pet out there,
and I mean he played a little bit in the
Gold Medal game and I saw him. He missed a shot,
grabbed a rebound. I mean, he's certainly one of the
best players in the world, is no question about that.
Is just was the fit right? Was the chemistry on
the floor right? Sorry to use that word since Dion

(31:20):
doesn't care for that when it comes to team.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Chemistry, But shouldn't I be able to be on the
form and the chemistry should be right if I play
with for all Vabe?

Speaker 4 (31:28):
I agree, yeah, because it would be like an Also,
I mean, it's kind of like an All Star Well,
it is an All Star team, even though they're trying
as opposed to what you're seeing in the All Star Game.
But you feel like there would be a fit. But
for whatever reason, whatever was that the TMOSA coaching staff
was trying to scheme up, Tatum didn't seem to be
their go to. Now what does that say?

Speaker 5 (31:49):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
I'm gonna stop short of going the Bob Coosey route
and saying it's anti Boston bias.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
That doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
First of all, because he wouldn't be on the team
that there wouldn't be three Boston Celtics on the team
to begin with them.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yeah, you definitely don't put Derek White on there. How
is Derek White on the team if there's anti Boston bias?
And then if you're gonna look at it and say
it's and what anti Boston bias does Steve Kerr have
exactly like none, No, Right when he was gold they
dominated the Celtics, and the Warriors really haven't had any
kind of you know, back and forth with Boston or

(32:27):
anything like that for the most part either. So I
don't really think that that adds up. It just for
whatever reason, he just wasn't the guy that they went to.
There were some other guys that didn't get playing time.
Tatum's probably the biggest star that didn't get a lot.
Halburton barely played at all and he's younger, but you
look at Tatum. I saw after the game it said
Tatum is not gonna let his lack of playing time

(32:49):
affect his decision in.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Twenty day it's good for him.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
Well, first off, yes, good, but it's just kind of
like I can't even believe that that was out there, Like, well,
I'm not gonna play again if you're not going to
play me. It's just I mean, if you get invited
to play in the Olympics in twenty twenty eight and
you're Jason Tatum, chances are you're gonna be one of
the biggest names there then, particularly because Lebron, Steph kd

(33:13):
are probably all aged out by that point.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Oh, we were not going to see Lebron anymore. We're
not gonna see Kevin Durant anymore. We're not gonna see
Steph Curry anymore in the Olympics. There's probably what about
four or five I can't think of them all off
the top of my head, that we won't see anymore,
their careers of coming to end, at least when it
comes to Olympics stuff. We won't see them anymore, you

(33:36):
know what I mean, They're they're gone.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
Yeah. What do you think of Dwayne Wade?

Speaker 2 (33:40):
What his commentary overall? You know, it was okay, I
probably given about a B minus. At times it got
a little bit too silly, and then at times where
it was supposed to be serious and a little nerve racking,
and you know, let us get into the game a
little bit too much joking around and you know, inside
jokes and that type of thing.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
He was okay. He was okay to me. I think
no Eagle's really good.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
He sounds phenomenal.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
First off, he sounds like his dad, which means he's
as good as it gets, because Eagle is one of
the best dudes I've ever interviewed. But he's also just
unreal at the job. But Noah sounds exactly like him,
just really good. The problem for Dwayne Wade with me
is just his voice doesn't carry. So he's not like
he doesn't have the announcer voice, which is not you

(34:29):
don't necessarily have to have that, but you usually need
a third voice. In that case, he was he's a
little too subdued, just because that's just his general demeanor.
It's not really a knock on him, it's just he's
not necessarily natural for that role. I mean, Shaq made
it work in the studio, and I think that Dwayne
Wade's probably better in the studio than he is as

(34:52):
an analyst, even though when he's breaking down the game
there's certainly nothing wrong with that. It's just the way
he speaks, the manner in which he speaks, in terms
of his tone and everything is just a little bit down,
and at times it gives off the impression that he's
not as into it, even though I know that's not
the case. I know he loves international basketball and certainly

(35:12):
was doing his best.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Right, no, no doubt about that. I'll tell you what
we come back, well, wrap up the Olympics and a
few things I want to get into, so all that's
coming up next. He's Jason Martin. I'm Ernie Spanier. This
is Fox Sports Radio live at the tire rec dot
Com studios right here at Fox Sports A Radio. Jason Martin,

(35:34):
Arnie Spaniard. I'm in fair and Torres on this Saturday night.
So much going on out there, you know, Jason Martin,
I gotta tell you, as I'm watching the Olympics, very
disturbed as I'm saw that one athlete convulsing down on
the ground.

Speaker 4 (35:50):
We're talking about the break dancer, aren't well, how did
you know I was going?

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Just because how did you know I was going there?
How did you didn't know?

Speaker 4 (35:58):
But I kind of tell I could telling your tone
that you weren't being exactly fourth right.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Like you talk about you talked about.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Some sports that weren't really sports that were deluding stuff like, Okay,
I know where we're going with Australian, aren't we.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Oh yeah, I'm watching this. I'm like, somebody helped this person.
Obviously they're condvaults like that was horrible.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Do we really have to start inventing sports like breakdancing?
I mean, why don't we just do sports talk radio,
hot sports opinions as Olympic sports that we could all
go for the gold medal. I think it's just getting
just getting a little deluded. You mentioned it doesn't mean
so much like it did back in the seventies and eighties.
Is it because maybe it's because we invented so many

(36:40):
sports or because everybody else is catching up.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
I agree with you. It doesn't maybe mean as much,
or maybe it doesn't feel as much. But that's ridiculous.
With the breakdancing, you know that just that's asinine.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
Well, I mean, you're saying making it up. It's like
breakdancing just happened. No, breakdance has been around for a minute, right,
but it's not necessarily found its way into the Olympics.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Well dance that used to be in the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
I just look, I like that. This woman knew she
didn't have the skill, so she decided to just be
creative and have fun. She got a free trip to
Paris out of this thing, right right, who's the one
that won here?

Speaker 5 (37:20):
It seems like she did.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yeah, but I mean, really, do you want to go
like that?

Speaker 3 (37:25):
Though?

Speaker 2 (37:25):
If you know you're so bad. But there's nobody else
that was trying that that one of the breakdance. They
couldn't find anybody else that that was like a real breakdancer.
Isn't there real breakdancers in every country or what?

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Well? I mean, I guess there are. I don't know
for sure, but I tend to think that's probably accurate.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
They're the best breakdancer that your country has. You've you've
got problems overall. How did you like the Olympics though?
I think it ratings wise through the roof, it's just
been phenomenal. It's just been a hit. Tvyjason is, Yeah,
So I didn't watch much of them.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
I didn't watch much of the first week. I just
didn't have the ability to. I had some other things
that were going on. But this week I did get
to watch a good bit more. I watched Noah Lyles
on Sunday with my family and I watched some more
of the gymnastics. I watched some swimming I saw. I
saw a decent amount. I saw some pop saw some

(38:23):
beach volleyball, and of course the basketball. I did enjoy it.
I did, Like I'm still the guy people just call
me a curmudgeon for this.

Speaker 5 (38:31):
But when you do.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
The the long, like five minute personal interest pieces on
television that get a lot of like non sports fans
really invested in these people, I usually tune those out
because I don't find them. I don't find them entertaining,
even though I do find them inspiring. But in terms
of just getting to watch the sports and seeing some

(38:54):
of that stuff, yes it was. I actually found myself
more invested in this than I thought it was gonna
be because I was really down on it going in.
It just didn't have much. There wasn't all that much appeal.
But it does turn out usually that I care more
than I think I'm going to.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
You know, no, that's a great point. I felt the
same way. Maybe it's because I didn't feel any hype,
you know what I mean. Remember back in the day,
it used to be well Dan and who remember they
used to do for the Catholic.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
And Dan and Dave that was it.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
I remember that one of them didn't really what finished
or didn't qualify.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
Yeah, it was Dan O'Brien and Dave something. But the
remember they had the big McDonald's like sponsorship stuff. We
all knew who they were. They were like, it was
a big deal, and it did not it didn't work out.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Let's just say that for one of them didn't even qualify.
If I remember correctly, I'm not sure one hundred percent
on that. But yeah, we had we had stuff like that,
and we didn't have the hype this time around. I didn't.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
I didn't feel it.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Yeah, there were athletes we wanted to see and sports
we wanted to see, but I just didn't feel the
hype out there. I go cook our one in the books.
It just full on by. We're gonna come back reset.
I do have a sportsmanship question. I'm gonna get to
Jason Martin. So that's coming up. We got some football
football football that's up. Also all come up next year

(40:15):
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Oh good evening, everybody. He's Jason Martin. I'm Ony Span
her in for Aaron Torres here on Fox Sports Radio.
I should tell you we're broadcasting live from the tyreck
dot Com studios. Tyreck dot com. We'll help you get
there in unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyreck dot com the

(40:44):
way tire Biden should be. By the way, Jason, you
are a Braves fan, right, you're an Atlanta Brace fan.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
M h.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
I know this story.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
The Martin Weiss was gonna do it later on this hour.
But did you hear about the Braves game next year?

Speaker 4 (40:59):
Yeah? Oh boy, it'd be fun.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
You gotta go, you gotta go on to one hundred
and fifty. I'm're not gonna get one hundred and fifty thousand.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
No, of course not. I mean it's too I mean
you think about where it's located. Cincy fan will call
the race. How far is that from you, Cincinnati or Bristol, Bristol, Bristol,
It's it's three four hours.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Oh, that's it's not terrible.

Speaker 4 (41:28):
It's not terrible.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
How many people you think they'll get for that?

Speaker 2 (41:32):
By the way, we're talking about they're supposed to play
a Major League Baseball game between the Braves and the
Reds next year at Bristol Motors speed Away and it
holds one hundred and fifty thousand, they want to go
for the record. I'm not sure what the record is.
Off the top of my head, I'm like, can they
really get one hundred and fifty thousand with those two teams?

Speaker 4 (41:51):
I find? I mean, I don't know, I know, I
don't think so. I I mean when they did the
college football game with Virginia Tech a couple of years
years ago, right, that was a crazy environment baseball. First off, Man,
there's to be some bad seats in that place. I mean,
think about that for a second, Like, that's the same
thing could be true with football too.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
But you're going for the experience, not really.

Speaker 4 (42:14):
The absolutely I think you're going to get a part
of that because maybe you never do it again.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
Right, it's got to be football. That's the only way
you're gonna break one hundred and fifty thousand, you know.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
Then, Yeah, I don't think base I don't I don't
think of baseball. I don't think you can hit six
figures with a baseball game.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
You would be up for that, though, how you if
we got your tickets you'd be uhh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
I might go anyway. I mean, that's that would be
the kind of thing to go to and just be
a part of, I think because it would be so unique.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
I saw that, I'm like, I wonder if Jason Martin
want to go to that, he's a Braise.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
Fan, feel free to get me tickets up.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Yeah, I'd work on that.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
I'll be glad to report from it.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
One more thing I wanted to get about the Olympics
a story that's probably so minute. I mean, I was
talking to Bernie about this Bernie Frider who comes up
after us. He is any opposite of minute, right, Oh,
that's for sure. And Bernie actually did this on his
show and got a boatload of calls on this and
a lot of tweets. It's a story that really nobody

(43:12):
knows because nobody saw this, which is why nobody's talking
about this. Matter of fact, out of all the calls
and tweets, he had a maybe one person happened to
see it. I was watching the USA Poland matchup in volleyball,
the six man volleyball Jason and I don't remember if
it was on a Monday Tuesday, like like ten in

(43:33):
the morning or something like that. Okay, so it might
have been Monday, I'm not sure. And obviously a lot
of people weren't watching that. A lot of people are
getting ready for work and all that. USA ended up
losing in five sets. It was quite nerve wracking. It
was an unbelievable match. It was just fantastic. Unfortunately USA

(43:53):
lost USA. I don't know if it was the fourth
set or fifth set, really doesn't make a difference. They
won a crucial point right and Poland decided to challenge it.
Before they went to the challenge, the USA player raised
his hand. He said, yeah, I nipped it. I touched it,
and they gave the point to Poland. And I'm saying

(44:16):
to myself, first of all, reminds me of that commercial,
Remember that basketball commercial where the kid goes to the coach, Coach,
I touched the balls off me. I'm gonna I'm gonna
tell the refs that, you know, the high school thing.
Do you really think that was the smart thing to do.
Shouldn't you let the judges, you know, do their jobs.
I've never seen a professional sports a running back going

(44:38):
to the to the judge, to the to the ref
going yeah, you know what I fumbled? You got me.
We don't have to review it. I I fumbled or
baseball player going, you know what, that wasn't a ball
that you got me? That was a strike. I'm I
struck out? You're I never heard or anything like that. Look,
I know you you want to have sportsmanship. Let the

(45:01):
judges do their job. Who knows, maybe they look again,
it's inconclusive. They can't tell. What are you opening your
mouth for. Let them review it and they'll take a
look at it. You don't need to admit what you did.
Have I wrong on that?

Speaker 3 (45:15):
Or what?

Speaker 4 (45:17):
I would like to think I would do that?

Speaker 3 (45:22):
What that you would raise your hand and say it's
off me?

Speaker 4 (45:25):
I would like to think that we would all do that.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Right, we're not asking you though, we're not asking you.

Speaker 4 (45:31):
That's the difference. See, all right, So I if you're
just kind of staying quiet and letting it be determined
by the officials, like that's what you do, go ahead
and let them make the decision. If they challenge it,
that's fine. I'm probably not gonna say, good challenge man.

(45:52):
You got me like that? That that just seems like
a bridge too far, because that sportsmanship is not coming
from anybody else.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
And I don't know if.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
That's sportsmanship or just naivete, like it's that's very very nice,
like them over here without the gold medal.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Right, you would never do that, like the commercial shows
you when the boy says, that's really off me. I'm
gonna go ahead and talk to the referees and let
the ball went up. The referees wouldn't even change your
call even if your zettle went off. You you you
understand that, though, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (46:27):
I mean there's there's there's gamesmanship as well, right, I
mean sports is all about deception. Like if I'm a
defensive coordinator, I'm trying to mask my coverage in every way,
shape or form so that the offense doesn't know what
I'm gonna do. Am I lying? Well, no, that's that's
that's part of the deal, right in this case, don't
point out the mistake. If they find the mistake, that's

(46:50):
one thing, fine, But you actually volunteering and being like
you got me. Actually, you don't have to go to
that replay. Here's the finger I used to touch the ball.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
You know. Ninety five percent of the phone calls in
tweets last night to Bernie Show all said, the kid
did the right thing.

Speaker 4 (47:08):
Well he did, he didn't hear right.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
Nobody was asking him if he touched the ball. That
wasn't the question. The referees didn't ask him. The other
team said, we want to challenge. Why go ahead and
admit you touch the ball, just to speed up the process.
Let them look at it. Maybe you're right, they.

Speaker 3 (47:29):
Find on out.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
But that's not the right thing to do, don't. I
don't know why so many people got it wrong. That's
not sportsmanship. You just sit there, let them review it.
Leave it up to the judges, and if they see
that you touch the ball, then they get the point.
If it's so inconclusive that they can't tell one way
or the other, and then you got the point to
begin with, and you get to keep the point, then

(47:52):
so be it. I you know, maybe you felt like
it touched it, maybe you're wrong. Who knows.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
Now.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
I just can't believe that's so many people would say,
you know, like get them in the commercial, Oh you've
got to admitted. I think people are full of bologny.
They're not going to admit it.

Speaker 4 (48:07):
Jameson, I'm not going to Amiticans really, like I said,
I'd like, That's why I said I'd like to think
because I think you hear that and you say, oh,
well I would do that. No, you wouldn't. Very few
people would do that. And you can call it honorable
or whatever, but you also know that the person across
from you is probably not doing that. You're this, You're

(48:27):
in this situation where again you just kind of stay quiet, right,
you don't have to go so far in that direction. Again,
if they find it, you say, uh, yep, you're right,
I did touch it. But I mean, how many NBA
players scream about the stuff that they know for a
fact just happened. I mean, didn't didn't me?

Speaker 2 (48:50):
Yeah, but you know you had touched it.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
More like a clear incompletion the guy gets up, gives
a first down signal, they're trying to get there and
snap the ball and all that. Like, it's the same
kind of deal. It's just right. I think it just
kind of goes with the territory of being in sports
is hey, man, it's only cheating if you get caught,
and it's not cheating in that case anyway, because it
was in the middle of play. And if they find it,

(49:14):
then they're gonna go ahead and make the fix. If not,
then that's on them, that's not on you.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
I'm curious what people are the listeners have to say,
if you want to get it on Twitter. At Jmart Radio,
I'm its thinking genius one. Would you just raise your
hand and admit up ball off me? And it was
a crucial point. We ended up losing in five sets anyway.
I don't know if that. I don't think that cost
us anything. If that was in the fourth set, we
end up losing the or we end up losing that

(49:41):
forth set anyway, But I don't think it was that crucial.
But I'm curious to see if people would raise their
hand and admit that it was off them or because
nobody was asking him, or would you just go ahead
and let them review it. So, like I said at
Jmart Radio, I'm it's thinking genius one. I sent you
this earlier in the day. If it's false or a

(50:03):
fake account, I don't care. I love the story.

Speaker 4 (50:07):
Well good, We're glad we're doing things with integrity around here.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
I don't think it's a fake account. I'm just surprised
that nobody brought this up, maybe because nobody really believes
it from mL Football, which is an account we've used before.

Speaker 4 (50:19):
I was gonna ask you when you said it if
that was like, what is that site? Because it's not
something that I was familiar with. Well, I saw the story, I.

Speaker 5 (50:27):
Was just like, well, it's at least believable.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
Well, it says Tom Brady said if the right opportunity
comes along, he'd be willing to unretire. Remember Brady turns
forty seven years old. If he did say that, I
would think it would pick up more steam than than
anything like that, especially with the being part owner. Did
he ever get to be part owner of the Raiders
and a team that could very well need a quarterback?

(50:50):
I don't think he would just go to any team
out there, especially if he's gonna be part owner of
the Raiders. I would love to see him on retire.
I still think he'd have a little bit left Bobby outplay.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
Five or ten starters in the NFL right now. How
great would that be if Tom Brady could be able
to un retire and come back to the NFL.

Speaker 4 (51:10):
I wouldn't be because it's time to go. Man. No,
I'm not saying he couldn't play, so I mean, if
he wants to whatever. But eventually you just got to
move on, Like eventually, like you went ahead and you retired,
then you came back, or you made the decision, then
you came back already once you got to stick to it.
This time it's it's just time to move on. So

(51:33):
I don't think it would be a how great is
this situation, even though it would be great content and
maybe he could still play, because Tom Brady seems ageless
when it comes to that. He may have lost a
little bit in Tampa Bay, but at the same time,
he was also on a team that just didn't have
everything firing that year. But I think it needs to

(51:53):
be over, like we he needs to stop playing. I mean,
Peyton Manning's been doing media for like more than half
a decade, and Tom Brady, we're still having stories about
him potentially coming back to play.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
You know, I don't think he could do a whole season.
I think he could very well finish up a season
for somebody for like six to eight games, take him
into the playoffs, and then take him after that. I
think he'd be willing to do that challenge. As a
matter of fact, if somebody called them up and says,
hey can you do the last six and take us
into the playoffs. I think it'd be very intriguing for
somebody like him. Heck, I think up to a couple

(52:27):
of years ago, Brett Farve would probably have done that
to come out of retirement and play a shortened season,
And I think Brady could pull it off. I would
love to see it. I think the interest would be
through the roof for something like that.

Speaker 4 (52:39):
Jason, Well, sure would. I'm not suggesting that it wouldn't be.
I'm just I mean, I would certainly be curious and
would tune in. But at the same time, I just
I'm kind of hoping he can stay away, because if
he comes back again, it's like, all right, Bro, you
just can't stop, can't you Like it's you really can't
do anything else but this. Do you hope to do

(53:01):
the boot? I want to see him in the booth.
I'm gonna see what he can do.

Speaker 2 (53:04):
Do you hope Belichick stays away? Do you hope he
comes back next year?

Speaker 4 (53:07):
I kind of hope he comes back because I want
to see what happens in a different situation. I want
to see him.

Speaker 5 (53:14):
Somewhere else, still without Brady.

Speaker 4 (53:17):
But I think that the knock on or the way
that Belichick has seen now because of how it has
gone since Tom left. I don't feel like that's fair,
and maybe the highs weren't entirely fair either. I kind
of want to see what it looks like fresh somewhere else.

(53:38):
So I wouldn't mind seeing him come back. If he doesn't,
that's fine, because I think he'll actually be pretty entertaining
his media personality if he wants to be.

Speaker 5 (53:46):
But I generally would like.

Speaker 4 (53:49):
To see one more run with him somewhere, just to
see what that would actually look like.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
I'm not so sure he'd be a good media personality.
I guess I'm gonna find out. Yeah, I guess I
have to see how much he's going to say and
how much he's going to loose en up. Because the
way he treats the media, I don't want to see
any of it. We're on the Cincinnati Whether we're not
going to get that, are we? Jay, We've got to
get a lot more than that. Come on, now, I know,
I think.

Speaker 4 (54:15):
I mean when he did the deal on college game
day at the Army Navy game, I thought he was
pretty good there. I think that you've always kind of
heard behind the scenes. He has a fun personality, cracks
a lot of jokes and stuff. I want to see
that version of him, and I think it might be
there for him. The only thing that would stop him
from being good is if he's afraid to say anything
because he is trying to get back.

Speaker 5 (54:36):
That that's no.

Speaker 4 (54:37):
Good like he He's got to be unvarnished Bill Belichick,
who is giving us all of the analysis that we
know he is capable of, not worried about hurting somebody's
feelings that might then give him a job.

Speaker 5 (54:52):
That's the only thing that would make this not work.

Speaker 4 (54:54):
As if he is still desperately trying to get back
and as such he's afraid to critique so and teams,
that's gonna be a problem.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
Well, they're not gonna He's not gonna be like Shaq
and Charles and Kenny and those guys. Is he You're
not expecting the loosen up like that where shot No fan,
I'd say you're a disappointment and you're a bummer.

Speaker 4 (55:14):
Or something like that. No, But at the same time,
I think that he wouldn't have to loosen up to
that degree to feel like he was a completely different
person because of how much more buttoned up he was
as a coach, with all the with how vanilla and
how dull intentionally he was, and the way he went
about it. There, if he gives you thirty or forty percent,
it's gonna look a lot more monumental. He doesn't have

(55:36):
to go be, you know, a shock jock on the
radio to feel completely different. If he's just if he
just has a personality, because that was the thing like
Bill Belichick that we saw never really had a personality.
He wore a hoodie and cheated. Sorry, I mean he
wore a hoodie and coached. But you know, I think

(55:57):
in this case, if he gives you twenty thirty percent,
sure that is actually gonna feel markedly different.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
Yeah, no doubt about that. You could reach us at
J Martin Radio. I'm a stinking genius one. By the way,

Plus we gotta give you the latest time I can

(56:48):

the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox sports

s R to listen live.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
Well, I have at tyreq dot com studios. Right here
on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jason Martin, Imrny Spaniard in
f Aaron Taurres, Jason, would you believe that Mary fought
me on playing the Beg's.

Speaker 4 (57:18):
Because she told me she wasn't gonna play it, asked
me to give her something earlier, which I did.

Speaker 2 (57:23):
Oh, I put my foot down. Still put my foot down.
I'm like, what do you mean you don't want to
play the They're all of fame.

Speaker 9 (57:31):
The thing is we played them the last time. I
was here, so I was like, bro, we gotta do
change it up a little bit. That's what they deserve
more than once a week. I mean, how were they
here last week? Oh no, we didn't play them last week.

Speaker 4 (57:42):
That's the thing. I don't want to.

Speaker 3 (57:43):
Play them every week.

Speaker 2 (57:44):
We should have the Beje's Hour. I mean, who these
guys are?

Speaker 4 (57:48):
Do you know?

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Do you know who they are? I'm aware, Gosh, they're famous.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
That's why you.

Speaker 4 (57:56):
Got sounds like fifty years old now.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
And it's still through the test of time. Right now.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
All our listeners are like you tell them on we
love this song, that.

Speaker 3 (58:08):
Our listeners love this song.

Speaker 9 (58:09):
You're ninety nine point nine delusion.

Speaker 3 (58:11):
I'm telling you that.

Speaker 2 (58:13):
I'm telling you now, you want to get it. At
Jay Bart Radio of Instincing Genius, one our favorite college
football coach, Jason was taking questions and I didn't think
it can get much worse between him and the media. Obviously,
he listens to everything that comes out of everybody's mouth.

(58:36):
It used to be where if peop would say, I
don't read or listen to what the media says. I
don't read the newspapers. That's the longer the case. Everybody
here is exactly no matter who you are, podcast, radio, print, TV,
they all get it. But here's Dion Sanders taking some
call or taking some questions. The other day.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
Eric Christensen will see a Sports Colorado tyler.

Speaker 10 (59:01):
I'm not doing thathe with CBS. Next question, it's above that.
I got none to do with you. I got love
for you, I appreciate, respect you, and got none to
do with you.

Speaker 3 (59:10):
They know what they did.

Speaker 4 (59:12):
I'm here at Denver, not National.

Speaker 10 (59:14):
You are who you are, CBS, the CBS, all right,
I respect You's why I told you that. I'm looking
at you and now as a man, I respect you.
I got love for you. But what they did was foul.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
What they did was foul. Okay, first of all, I
think they CBS voted him, uh the second worst cult.

Speaker 3 (59:35):
Like out of the all the teams in the Big twelve.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
A gotcha, he was down toward the bottom. Is that
really that offensive for him to be like that? The CBS,
And before you answer, your answer can be used against
you in a court of law or in the state
of Colorado. So I don't need the year tiance the
next press conference. You know who you are. Five you

(01:00:00):
know that Jason Martin guy. You you know who you are.
But is he taking this too far? What Jason, what
do you think?

Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Well? This is this is a guy that he's played
a different game his whole career than the one that
he's playing right now, and he I think a lot
of what he did as a professional, he was able
to play with a chip on his shoulder. He was

(01:00:27):
somebody that talked about of trash, especially at that position.
That's just a position that tends to have that happen.
And he definitely has been raked over the coals a
little bit over this last stretch by the media. But
this isn't a thing that reflects well on him. I
think the problem here is as think it comes across

(01:00:49):
as being incredibly thin skinned, like you just have to
let this thing flow off. They want to just go
out there and win games.

Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Four games, Yeah, they won four games last year. So
it's not like he doesn't deserve the criticism.

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
Yeah, I mean it started out great and then it
ended very not great. And this year a whole lot
of eyes are on him because they've had the exodus
of talent, or at least the exodus of bodies. We
won't call it talent because Dion made sure to say
it wasn't talent that was exiting the door. But this
is a year where I think there's a lot of
people waiting to see if he's going to fall in

(01:01:20):
his face or if he's going to have the answers.
He really isn't in a position where it's not like
you look at this and you're like yes, sleigh King,
Like no, that that's not how this works.

Speaker 5 (01:01:32):
His scenario at this point is he'sed to go out
win games.

Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
So just answer the questions that are being asked whether
this guy was part of that or not, And clearly
he was not, Like, this has nothing to do with you.
This is CBS what I mean.

Speaker 5 (01:01:47):
I would have to bet you that every network that
covers sports has said something that Dion would consider foul
about him. So where do you draw the line? Because
there no, I mean seriously, like, so where do you

(01:02:07):
draw the line? When does it become so foul that
you're going to make a statement about it. He'd be like, well, no,
we're just going to deny you access because of this.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
You can't do that.

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
You know you can't, and it doesn't look good for you, Like,
just take the questions and I mean, who cares those
articles will be written and forgotten about because people have
to write top ten lists or they get fired.

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
How people took Skip bayless?

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
So seriously, you know that it got toldos violence? You
know what I mean, the guy's giving an opinion like
team A over Team B or team player A is
no good or I mean it got the almost the
violence with stuff like that. I just I think too
many athletes. And we've talked about Kevin Durant before, who
was up by the way, there was a story about

(01:02:54):
him up at five am tweeting about something or somebody
that he was upset about. But he Dion can't be
like that. He's he if he wants to bring it
up and go oh cbs. I mean the guys that
voted me like the thirteenth best coach out of out
of fourteen or fifteen or something like that. Okay, I
tell you tell your bosses. I saw that, so I

(01:03:15):
can't wait to prove them wrong. You got to use out.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
I agree with that, Like, if you're gonna do it,
say hey, why don't you take this one back to
your bosses? And then I mean, but you can have
fun with it. You can do it with a smile
on your face, be like, yes, all is ranked near
the bottom of the list, and coaches be curious see
what we're looking at back in January or something, and
have some fun with it. But this right here just
comes across as I can take zero criticism. Yeah, and

(01:03:41):
that's just a bad look. And that's not a thing
that ad. It's not a laudable trait for a head
coach either, Like you have to be bigger than that,
and it just doesn't. It's bad optics all the way around.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):

eighteen yards, passing two touchdowns one interception. Brock Bauers for
the Raiders had two catches twenty five yards. Jade and
Daniels didn't play much against the Jets. He had two
completions on three attempts fifty I'm sorry, good lord, Dyslexi

He only played three total snaps. Preseason injuries unfortunately, Packers
rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd left the game with an injury.
New Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown injured on the first play
of the game. Today, Andy retailing reporters that Brown shuffered

(01:06:19):
a shoulder injury similar to what tybreek Hill suffered in

lose offensive lineman Keon Smith to an ACLS. Here he
was fighting for a backup role at the Olympics. Both
men and women Americans taking home the gold medal in
the four by four hundred meter relay. Women's soccer, USA

(01:06:40):
won gold over Brazil one nil, ninety eight to eighty seven.
That was a final score as Team USA men's basketball
took home the gold. Steph Curry twelve eight for twelve
from three to four of them in the last four minutes.
It's the fifth straight gold medal for Team USA men's basketball.

thirty eight gold medals, a trail China, who has thirty
nine gold medals. France has sixty two medals sixteen gold
So if the USA women are able to get done

(01:07:22):
tomorrow morning against France, that will bring the Olympics to
a tie for most gold medal medals with the United
States and China at thirty nine.

Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
Back to you guys, all right, of course, Martin Wise
will join us in a little bit over ten minutes
from now with other news stories of the day.

Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
It's Jason Martin Arnie Spaniard. I'm in Freerin Tores right
here on Fox Sports Radio. We're live at the Tyracket
dot Com studios right here on Fox Sports Radio. Jason,
A couple of things I wanted to get to this segment.
Like I said, if you want to jump in j
mart Radio, I'm at stinking Genius one college football because

(01:08:01):
I am so hyped up for it in a different
way this year.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
I mean, with the.

Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
Different conferences, what is the biggest story you're looking for?
You're an SEC fan? I mean, are you're dying to
see how Oklahoma Texas is gonna do down there in
the SEC? Changes in the Big twelve, the big changes
in the Big ten. I can't wait to see how
UCLA does in USC. Looking forward to see how Oregon's
pulling things off and now they'll do up there. I mean,

(01:08:28):
I'm more pumped up than ever for college football. I
know you're a among a college football fan. Some of
the stories you're looking forward to and how excited are
you for the season?

Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
Yeah, I mean, I definitely think the Oklahoma Texas thing
is big. I want to see what USC is going
to look like especially because Lincoln Roley keeps saying things
I don't like. He's just saying some very arrogant things
considering what they haven't done yet.

Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
Is he is he on the hot seat right now?

Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Or what I probab he's on a hot seat, But
he's definitely starting to write a lot of chicks and
and those have to come do at some point, like
eventually you have to pay those off. And what's he
going to be now? Because Caleb was everything for them
last year and the year before, So it's the defense
finally going to be there now that we have something

(01:09:17):
new at coordinator? Is are we finally going to have this?
Because we never had an Oklahoma regardless of who was
the coordinator. We brought in one of those guys at
USC as a complete dumpster fire. Now you were joining
a conference. Lucky for USC, they at least were in
a better version of the PAC twelve this last few
years that had a little bit more depth to it.
But these big ten guys, they're built a little bit

(01:09:38):
different upfront, and the way that they want to kind
of bruise and batter you, it's going to be different,
and you're going to be going to the you know,
these cold places with these very very loud stadiums, and
I want to see what that looks like. So, I mean,
I definitely think that that might be, you know, one
of the most intriguing things. But I am you're right.

(01:09:58):
I mean, I'm an SEC country.

Speaker 5 (01:10:01):
The Oklahoma Texas joining.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
The SEC thing is just humongous. But there are outside
of that, just the idea of the twelve team playoff
and what's that gonna feel like with some of these
biggest carry rivalry games. Are we going to see a
diminishing of import Like when we're watching this, are we
gonna care quite as much if both the teams playing
are likely to get spots in a twelve team playoff,

(01:10:26):
for example, when you have Ohio State Michigan or is
it still gonna feel exactly as big as it always is.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
No, it's gonna be big. Now we're gonna have more
games with twelve spots open, Like you just said, We're
gonna have more games in the final two, three, four
weeks that mean everything in the world. It's not just
gonna be like you know, there's always like maybe just
two games or three games that matter. Now we're gonna
have like six, seven, eight games, teams up all the

(01:10:51):
way through. Any top twenty five teams that I have
a legitimate chance and maybe Top twenty teams that I
have a legitimate chance of jumping up into the top twelve,
all will have importance, especially if they're two teams inside
the top twenty. I don't think we're ready for that.
Like in the NFL, there's like, you know, we always say,
well there's like six games that have playoff implications. We're

(01:11:12):
gonna have tons of things like that that will playoff
implications in college football that we never had before. That's
why it's gonna be so much more enjoyable, Jason.

Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
In the regular season, right, yes, the regular I mean
I get that, but I mean I do think that
some of the big rivalry games, it's just gonna depend
are both the teams getting in and does that affect
it or not? And I don't know, like maybe it doesn't.
Maybe it's still gonna be about, you know, who's in
a better position, who maybe gets the home game between
those or whatever in the early part of it. Maybe

(01:11:42):
it's not gonna make a difference at all. I agree
with you that you're gonna have more games because you're
gonna have more teams trying to compete for a few
different spots. I do think that some of the rivalry
attention is gonna change. I also think we didn't talk
about it specifically. I mentioned in Lincoln RAWI saying some
things that I wasn't a I an't fan of. I
would say the whole Notre Dame thing in particular, when

(01:12:05):
he came out and said, yeah, I understand the rivalry
is one thing, but maybe we move on from that
one now that one's pretty big, Like we need to
not completely erase everything that's ever happened in the sport,
and it seems like we're doing that way too often.
So that's really the only thing where I just kind
of look at and say, again, you've been at USC

(01:12:26):
for like five minutes in a ham sandwich, Like this
is a long standing rivalry with a whole lot of
stuff going on, Maybe keep that one on the schedule.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
I'm wondering who's gonna have a tougher year. Is it
gonna be UCLA USC or Michigan, Especially with all the
stuff going on with Michigan right now, My goodness, who's
gonna have worse between those three teams?

Speaker 4 (01:12:49):
Well, I don't know. I mean, I still think Michigan's
gonna be fine, and you look at I don't know.
It's interesting me how that worm has turned to where
Michigan was kind of the punching bag and now it's
like leaving alone, like everything's kind of shifted. Does seem
like most of the people were on their side at
this point because Harbaugh's gone, that's right, right, But I
mean there's still a lot of people around the program

(01:13:10):
that were there at that point in time. But it's
like this snake leaves and now it's okay, right, I mean,
that's still you got the defending champion coming back with
a new head coach and head coach I think we
all think and do we do it? And did do
it instead of Harball last year for a few games,
but you know, coming back from that and they lost

(01:13:31):
a lot, I mean, they lost a lot of their
most talented guys. And then you talk about another new coach,
Kaitlyn de Bor replacing Nick Saban is not a thing
that happens very often. That's place to be. So I
really want to see what that looks like.

Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
I agree with you one hundred percent. He's Jason Martin,
I'm already spanning. When we get back, Martin Whitees comes
on in gets to the stories that we've not reached
yet so far. That's coming up next right here on
Fox Sports Radio. All right, live at the tyreck dot
Com studio, Jason Martin, Arnie span You're right here on
Fox Sports Radio. I'm sitting fair and Toarres. Let's check
in with her buddy, Martin Wise, get to the stories

(01:14:07):
we haven't not reached it so far. What's happening out there, Martin?

Speaker 8 (01:14:11):
Well, first up, well, we have Shannon Sharp saying Cole
Hawker will not receive a fifty k payout for a
gold medal. Now, why would Shannish are be paying gold medalists?

Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
Well, he said on.

Speaker 8 (01:14:25):
His podcast The Nightcap with Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson that
the money that gold medalists were getting, thirty seven thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
Is just just just too it's just too few.

Speaker 8 (01:14:36):
He said that if no allows won the gold medal
for the one hundred meter, he would put up he
and Ocho would put up twenty five k each, same
to Shakari Richardson and Ryan Bailey, and said on top
of that, he said, I'll give fifty thousand to any
American to break up world record.

Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
I don't give it. Damn what the event is?

Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Wow? I like that. So how many how many Americans
go world records? How much did he have to fork over?

Speaker 4 (01:15:02):
Then?

Speaker 8 (01:15:03):
So him, I know that you carry one the gold medal,
So that's fifty right there, No allows one the gold
for undermeters, that's another fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
I don't know if Ryan, what about the other sport?

Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
Yeah, there's sports like we don't even pay attention to
that could.

Speaker 8 (01:15:17):
Have Well, how about this Bobby Finke fifty thousand bonus
after the one hundred fifteen hundred freestyle world records.

Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
So there you go. He got the fifty k as well.

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
So you know, I saw it, Jason, I saw him
Where they get thirty seven five for the gold, I'm like,
that's all what I read. One guy gets like a
condo from another country, gets like free food for life,
free healthcare for life, and they get all this kind
of other stuff in other countries, we'll give you a
thirty seven five.

Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
That's kind of bogus, you know, I can't man, Olympics
don't mean the same. It doesn't seem like it seems
like internationally, they do care a whole lot, which still
speaks to how much the American athletes want to do
it because they aren't necessarily And the thing is like,
how long are they household names? Like if you win
a Golden your Michael Phelips, that's one thing, But a
lot of people win golds, you see it, and then

(01:16:08):
you never hear from them again. And it's not like
they're getting seventeen thousand endorsement deals and all that to
make it up like you were putting your heart and
sold into this to not really be a celebrity the
way that maybe you are internationally.

Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Can we give him a car or something? Right, give
him something out there?

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
But back in the day, when you win a ward,
you you got cars out there, Martin, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
I mean you won more on the Newlyway Game.

Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
Yeah, you know, we didn't get to get our trip.
But I never even got the Turtle Whax or the
Rice Sarni. That's why I love Rice Sarni. I really
wanted that more than the trip to Micronesia. I never
even got that.

Speaker 4 (01:16:44):
For quiet.

Speaker 3 (01:16:46):
All right, Martin, what else do we got there?

Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
My friend?

Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
All right?

Speaker 8 (01:16:48):
Kevin Burkhardt is sick of guys swinging and missing. He
says people have got ass for shame, saying, quote, the
strike god has become all too commonplace.

Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
You've told me this. You were embarrassed to.

Speaker 8 (01:16:59):
Strike out, as Berkhart was talking to one Alex Rodriguez.
You talked to all the greats. They were embarrassed to
strike out. It doesn't matter anymore. We've got to find
a way to make that a penalty to increase contact.
So Burkhart wants an out just simply not enough to
help encourage people to strike out less.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
Jason Martin, you're the baseball loving expert out there. I
don't know what we're gonna do. He's right, strikeouts have
become bad. It used to be an embarrassment. Now it's
just commonplace.

Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
I mean, Dave.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Kingman would certainly love the summer right now. I don't
know what we're gonna do about it. But if you
strike out, we'll give you two outs. I we can't
do that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
Yeah, there's not really a fix here. I understand what
Burkhard is saying. It's just you can just go up
there and hack away, right because it's.

Speaker 2 (01:17:46):
I mean, you may as well you're gonna.

Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
End up in the dugout one way or the other.
So it doesn't really there's less of a reason. It
seems like to go for a thirty pitch at bat
that maybe there felt like there used to be. But
what are you suppose to do? I don't think you
can make it more punitive than it already is.

Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
No, no, you can't. But I do think it's hurting
baseball though. I think it's taken away from the game.
So I don't know if there's much like.

Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
The injury timeouts in college football, Like, how are you
supposed to adjudicate that to determine when someone is actually
abusing that rule?

Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
Can't do it?

Speaker 2 (01:18:20):
Yeah, you can't get with the fake oh the hamstring,
so I can stop you from going no huddle. Yeah,
it's it's impossible, all right? What else do you got there?

Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
Martin?

Speaker 8 (01:18:30):
A bronze medal going back. Potentially, Jordan Childs might lose
her bronze medal from the twenty twenty four Parish Olympics
after it was deemed that a challenge was made to
four seconds too late. The challenge so initially Child's finished
in fifth place. The United States challenged the ruling of

(01:18:51):
her fifth place.

Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
You know one everybody I mean that's doing a.

Speaker 8 (01:18:53):
Challenge flag on all the play want to double check
make sure everything was on the up and up.

Speaker 3 (01:18:58):
They investigate after challenge.

Speaker 8 (01:19:00):
Turns out she gets the bronze medal instead of I mean,
and there's only four tenths of a point between fifth
place and third place, so she bunny hopped.

Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
Right over to Romanian gymnasts.

Speaker 8 (01:19:11):
However, that challenge was four seconds after.

Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
The time that you know, they only have a minute
left of town. Minute of time.

Speaker 8 (01:19:18):
They do it with a minute in four seconds, so
now it's an international incident.

Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
Jordan Chiles may have to give back the bronze medal.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
And I saw some story said she gave it back.
Some stories said she may have to give it back.
They're arguing back and forth. I think this is ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
Jason.

Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
I'm not giving you back the gold medal over my
dead bare hands and you're taking it back, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Yeah, I'm kind of with you.

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
You got to come get it if you get yeah, exactly,
you got to come get appreciated. Martin two Hours or
in the books, the Power Hours. Coming up next, we
had some preseason football. They get to so that's coming
up next. You want to jump in j Martin Radio,
i'vid stinking genius one. And you know who we are,
don't you. We are Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:20:05):

Speaker 2 (01:20:06):

I actually remember when I told you I needed a
pair four tires. I need to get three sets of

(01:20:30):
tires for myself, my wife, my son, winners around the corner.
We live up here in Vermont. We got some stunt
if you heard about this, Jason, We got some snow.
We get snow up here in the winter time.

Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
You don't make kind of.

Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
Tough Yeah no, no, not now, Okay, no, a week
from now. Probably no, No, I'm just kidding, not now,
but uh, but it's not gonna be too far off.
By the way, you want to get hold of us,
real simple, you can use Twitter at Jason Martin excuse
me at J Martin Radio. It's a genius won a
lot of people tweeting stuff like this, all Beg's all

(01:21:05):
the time, Abigail says Arenie, once again, you're the voice
of reason. The Beg's are timeless, a true treasure that's
meant to be enjoyed. Shame shame on you, Mary, Shame
on em.

Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Cry about it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
I mean, the Beg's are timeless.

Speaker 9 (01:21:24):
There, I'm not saying they're not timeless. I never said that.
I'm just saying we can't do Beg's every week, like
change it up.

Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
We could, we could have wanted to.

Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
I mean, like I said, people love the Beg's.

Speaker 9 (01:21:36):
I know because then I asked you and I said,
all right, cool, what BG song do you want? You're
gonna say stay alive, like would go with your favorite.
You can't even name me your favorite BEG song?

Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
Can I get?

Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
I could name a bunch. I just don't know. I
just wasn't see enough said right, yeah one more than
that's another big one.

Speaker 9 (01:21:59):
Okay, but you're saying big, I want to know your
favorite staying alive?

Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
Stay by the way, I used to have one.

Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
I used to have an old boss who would yell
at me like crazy if I would talk about the music.
I mean a matter of fact, I think the only
reason he would hire me is so he could yell
at me and just scream at me, Jason, scream at.

Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
Me, stop talking about the music.

Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
Stop talking about the.

Speaker 3 (01:22:24):
Yeah on air. So it would drive him crazy. Oh
he would.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
He would try to fire me, and he wouldn't fire
me just because he want to keep screaming at me.
But he's no longer around anyway.

Speaker 9 (01:22:36):
So it's crazy because now you do the same thing
to me.

Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Yes, there you go, All right, what question I didn't
throw on the rundown, So I'm gonna kind of just
throw it out to you, and I'm gonna give you
a little time to think. Our buddy Craig Carton, who
does TV on Fox Sports One, does the TV show
in the morning, who I watch all the time, big
fan of his. He did I don't know if you
heard about this today, Jason. He did the play by

(01:23:01):
play for the New York Yankee game today and obviously
a big bucket list for him. And I was gonna
ask you, and both of us will answer, if you
had a bucket list of something you wanted to do
a big time event like that where he's calling the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
What would it be?

Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
And I'm gonna give you time to think because it
doesn't necessarily have to be sports. People will be thinking, oh, arn,
you want to do play by play for the Knicks
or play by play for the Mets or University of Arizona.
I'm not a big play by play. I mean, look,
I think I could do it, but it's not something
I dreamed of. I would do it once and have

(01:23:41):
fun Jason and say, oh, it'd be great to do
the Nick game once, but it's not a bucket list
thing for me. If I was gonna do something in
that kind of field or realm, I'm probably gonna go
outside the box. I would really love and I know
you're gonna think this is crazy. I would love to
be a game show host. If I could do the

(01:24:01):
you know, any game show, The Price is Right or
anything like that, I would have a blast. I would
love to do something like that. And one other thing
I was up for the running Mary Povich was gone
for a week one time because he had an emergency
and I got a call. They had three people narrowed

(01:24:21):
down to replace Maury for a couple of days for
you know, the one when he does you are the father, right?

Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Yes, Oh I wanted that so bad, Oh so bad.
I'm like, oh I I got I came real close
to getting it too, just to fill in for like
a week. I would love to do something like that
or be like the host of the Prices right, like
Jim Carrey does now or Drew carry excuse me, Jim
Carrey like Drew does, because I think that'd be fun that.

(01:24:51):
That to me, is better than doing something sports wise.
Do you have something you would like to do just
once or for a weekend or anything like that, Jason
or well.

Speaker 4 (01:24:58):
See, I mean I'm done play by right, and I've
done it in sports and in pro wrestling.

Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
Oh yo real yeah, I mean that.

Speaker 4 (01:25:07):
Was That's where I buttered my bread for a long time. Yeah,
that's a I mean, it's a it's a good question.
I mean, I think maybe it would still be something
in play by play because I did have such a
fun time throughout that, Like I'd love to call a
Bray's game similar to what Cardon did, but I think
like I would like to call WrestleMania, I would like

(01:25:29):
to actually do the play by play and actually be
the voice of WrestleMania. That would probably be the first
thing that comes to mind.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Because I played for a job with the Harlem Globetrotters,
not playing, no, not playing obviously to do the announcing
where they implement you into the part of the routine.
I'm not throw confetti on you or whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
I Have you ever done play by play that's live
like over a PA I have to. It's a unique experience,
to say the least.

Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
I might.

Speaker 2 (01:25:59):
I've done one one, not one game, one season, like
about twenty games of play by play. It was there's
a listen this is You're gonna love this story. There
was a local cable company filming my brother's basketball game
in high school and I was sitting there watching the
game in sweats, and I noticed the announcers didn't show.

(01:26:19):
And I walk over to the guy and I say, look,
I know my brother's team, I don't know the other
team very well. I could do the game for you.
So I do the game for them and I have
a good time. So they go, look, we do one
of the local colleges. Can can you do the games
for us? I said, sure, it'd be a lot of fun.
You know, I think they pay me like twenty bucks
or something.

Speaker 3 (01:26:40):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
That local college was Jason Loyola, Marymount University, Bo Kimball,
hay Gathers. That was their run in a gym that
was packed like crazy, And that's what I got myself
into and that that got me started into the whole
sports thing. But that was crazy. I'm like, oh my goodness,

(01:27:01):
And that was TV play by play I was doing.
That was my first introduction to the to the whole thing,
and that was a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
That was.

Speaker 2 (01:27:08):
That was a good time. You know, it wasn't far
from me and they made a great run. That was
That was a good time.

Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
So yeah, I mean I think that when you when
you the first year that I did football, the team
that I covered, the high school team I covered, went
undefeated and won the state championship and they had only
been a school for about four years at that point.
So that was cool, Like you were the team that's
good and you like roll all the way like I

(01:27:35):
got to because of that, I got to call games
in like rupp Arena.

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Oh nice.

Speaker 4 (01:27:39):
Yeah, you got to call like the end and state
championship games that take place at you know here in
Nashville will take place, big time games can take place
in really cool venues, and so you get to do
things even on the lower level to make you.

Speaker 2 (01:27:56):
What about NASCAR, wouldn't you like to call a Nascar
ben or No?

Speaker 4 (01:27:59):
Those guys, I'm not gonna lie. Like the radio guys
in particular for NASCAR are some of the most talented broadcasters.

Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
That's tough.

Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
That's forget.

Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
Yeah, because like if you like the guys that run
those networks that go from turn to turn and flip
from this guy to this guy to this guy, they
are top notch, Like it is incredible to listen to
them do what they do, especially if our industry and
they've seen how difficult it can be. Uh, those guys

(01:28:31):
are unbelievable and they have been for a very long time.

Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
Yeah, No, that's tough. I used to have a producer
that got in the play by playing. He does horse
racing out of all events. That's a tough thing to
call too. So uh yeah, there's a bunch of different
things out there. But when I saw Craig Carton doing
the Yankees, I'm like, what would I like to do?
What's the one sport or what did he do. He
did great. They said he was phenomenal. I heard a

(01:28:55):
little bit of him, but they they say he's awesome.
And you know, he knew the team very well. So
when when you know the team, well, you know obviously
you're gonna do a better job. It was like he
was just taking two random teams that were batter or
anything like that. So at least see he got to
do that, but at least good for him. I was
just thinking, if there was you know, maybe I'd like
to do the Olympics. That might be fun a little bit.

(01:29:15):
But yeah, no, I I think like price is right,
you know, come on down because that would be the
most fun. You want to get on in j Martin Radio,
I mistake a genius.

Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
Want anything we miss? Let us know by the way.

Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
One tweet says, already throw some jive talking and night
Fever on Mary as two of the best upbeat will.

Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
Get your movie night Fever.

Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
Yeah there you go, Mary. People are taking the or
sending together repla.

Speaker 5 (01:29:43):
I'm just suggesting that.

Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
So there there are the requests out there. We had
some preseason football. I can't believe it's taking us this
long to get to that. Are you watching it?

Speaker 3 (01:29:53):
Do you care.

Speaker 2 (01:29:54):
Is there anything you look for? Is it meaningless to you?
Is it like hey, telling your wife, don't bother me
now it's kickoff time for the Titans? Any and all that,
or it doesn't really matter to you, doesn't move the
needle for you.

Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
First off, Broncos fan, Broncos second off?

Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
I mean, right now it's gone for you.

Speaker 4 (01:30:14):
So I got Charger Seahawks on the screen in front
of me right now. But no, not really like that.
The thing that I pay attention to. It sounds really dark,
but unfortunately, the thing that comes out of it that
means the most is whether or not somebody is injured.
Like that's the one thing, Like you just don't want
that news coming across that some quarterback or some key

(01:30:37):
contributor to one of these teams. The season comes to
an end, and it'll happen in practice, it always does,
or it'll happen in one of these games. But like so,
Caleb Williams went four for seven and you know how
to touchdown, scramble for thirteen yards, look pretty good. But
I just find it very very difficult to get too

(01:30:58):
high or too low based on either good or bad,
especially coming from rookies, in the preseason, but it was
pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
Do you compare that to uh, because I want to
see Caller Williams, because I also wanted to see Bronnie James.
The plays was packed. Everybody wanted to I knew everybody
that wanted to either watch the game or see the
highlights of Brodnie James. When Baiyama people wanted to see.
Is that the same thing or no?

Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
Not really, I don't think so. I'm not sure. Well,
both the preseason, you know, well, yes, but there's something
about the individual game, right what you can do with
the basketball in your hand is just different than the
way the NFL is set up. So if a rookie
quarterback is in there, I just don't know that you
get again, I find it very hard to get too

(01:31:46):
high too low. I'd love to see if there's any
kind of correlation between rookies are really good in the
preseason to end up actually having, you know, an amazing
first year or whatever like that. Like I don't remember
Cee j. Stroud being great in the preseason last year
and then he went on to have maybe the best
rookie season we've ever seen a quarterback have in the NFL.
So like, I think all you can say is, I mean,

(01:32:09):
it looks like Jaydon Daniels, looks like Caleb Williams.

Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
There's some good thing McCarthy.

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
Was McCarthy, he's gonna already be inducted into my preseason
Hall of Fame. I mean, that's what I'm saying, Like
I can't.

Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
Yeah, I'm glad I do that every year. Say yes,
you do. You did it to me last year. But
you know that's what's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
Maybe ask you this, how many people you think in
Minnesota talking about JJ McCarthy. How many of our listeners
who are Viking fans are already screaming, we want JJ
to be the starter. That's going to be the talk,
though in that circle, it's it's all about what they did.
Who's going to be the starter, who's going to deserve
to be That's the big position. If Caleb Williams was

(01:32:51):
zero for seven, people be screaming about that, even though
it's just one preseason game. There's only four of them,
and some people take him all each very seriously.

Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
Jason, Yeah, well, listen, I think that one thing that
that our listeners should know is that one of the
best things that you can do for your life, for
your sanity just generally is to ignore quote people unquote
like you saying people say this, and all these people

(01:33:23):
that those are people I'm not That don't affect me
one way or the other in terms of the opinion
that I'm going to have here. Now what you're saying
about McCarthy. Look, if you're a fan of the Vikings,
that's what you're gonna want. If you're a fan of
the Bears, you're gonna want Caleb Williams to have the
kind of day that he did. Nothing poetic, Yeah, there's
nothing wrong, but just recognize what it is and what

(01:33:44):
it's not. It's not Sunday Week one, where the starters
are on the other side of the field. It's where
you know, where all the looks are. Not as vanilla.
I mean. The thing that becomes intriguing about preseason as
it goes along is those last five seven spots that
guys are really competing for and are winning and losing

(01:34:04):
sometimes based on like one drop or something that might
happen in the last preseason game. But we go into
this thing with ninety percent of the roster already figured out,
so you're really just looking at a few different things,
and they're not necessarily guys that are going to be
playing a whole lot when the games matter. But I mean,
you do get excited to see a rookie put on

(01:34:24):
the uniform for the first time and play. But like
watching four quarters of a preseason game, that's just not
a thing you do unless you're having to cover it.
Like most people, I'm not certainly not a thing you do.
It may be something you out there listener do, it''s
not something I have the patience for anymore. Eventually, even

(01:34:45):
if I'm watching a game that I care about third
or fourth quarter, I'm probably bailing, or at least it's
on in the background while I'm doing something else.

Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
You know, when you said most positions are pretty much
done in ninety percent. With that being said, JJ McCarthy
eleven and seventeen, one hundred and eighty eight yards, two touchdowns,
one interception, maybe I'm you know, just being jumping the
gun knee jerk reaction. I think JJ McCarthy just maybe
pulled himself even to maybe be the starter of week

(01:35:12):
number one with Sam Donald because he looks so damn good.
They may say, you know what, let's just go with it,
Let's go with the rookie, and let's get him out
there taking some REPSI looks so damn good in preseason,
I think that you know, he woke up some people
there and said, hey, we may go with I bet
your Viking fans are probably seventy five twenty five in
McCarthy favor right now on the talk.

Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
Shows up there in Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
Jason, Yeah, I mean that's probably true. There's gonna be
a knee jerk reaction to everything. He goes out in
the second game and he's three for seventeen, then they're
gonna say, forget about it. Fire everybody that decided to
drop him, like it's it's what have you done for
me lately?

Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:35:51):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
But he put up big numbers and now people are like, okay,
let's go with him.

Speaker 4 (01:35:54):
Now. I'm on the opinion at this standpoint, like if
you all right, So it's Sam Donald here that we're
speaking of in.

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
This case, pause, fourth for eight fifty something yards, nothing spectacular.

Speaker 4 (01:36:04):
Right, Okay, So he's fine whatever. I'm of the opinion now,
especially with the way rookie salaries are set up, that
if things are close, go with the rookie. And the
reason why is because you want him to get is
you want to know as much as you can about
him as fast as possible, because now's the time you

(01:36:25):
can maximize everything around him because you don't have to pay.

Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
Him out to nose.

Speaker 4 (01:36:29):
So if it's close, I'm playing JJ McCarthy if it's close,
because I'll let him go ahead and get as lung
to come and make some mistakes and all this kind
of thing. But I like, I'm just saying, if they
get to the end and Donald has like a one
percent better grade than McCarthy, I'm going with McCarthy. We
already know what Sam Darnold is. Okay, he'll be an
adequate fill in or if things go completely south then

(01:36:50):
we can put him in or whatever like that. But
you also have to recognize who you are and who
you're not. And I don't think anybody's looking at the
Vikings and thinking super Bowl. So if that's the case,
then you get the rookie out there now. Because the
best situation you can be in outside of having like
a Patrick Maholmes, is to be the Houston Texans. And
it figured out that you have your franchise guy. But

(01:37:13):
you don't have to pay him yet, as opposed to
having to pay Jordan Love after one year because he
sat on the bench for so long. Yeah, and so
you don't have time to build around him because you
just had to pay him like crazy if you were
to keep in there. That's it. Like you want that

(01:37:34):
rookie window. You want that window is probably the wrong word,
but just you want that rookie cushion where you're able
to actually build a contender around him before you have
to start making a lot of difficult financial decisions. So
I look at these rookies and I think, I think
we are now in an era where it's a luxury
to be able to sit a rookie. And it's just

(01:37:55):
a luxury. It doesn't make sense, like you don't buy
a Ferrari if you're making fifty thousand dollars a year exactly.
And I think in this case with the NFL, you
need to get these guys out there and figure out,
let them take their lumps whatever, as long as you're
not getting killed behind an offensive line that is going
to end their career or something like that. But I
just think that you have to maximize value now, and

(01:38:16):
the best way to win a championship is to get
a young quarterback that is still on his rookie contract
that can't command more, and then enables you to do
a whole lot around him. I mean, Burrow almost cashed
in before he got paid. They almost won that Super
Bowl before they had to pay him, because they got
the best of both worlds. They got the quarterback and

(01:38:36):
the wide receivers didn't have to pay either one of them.
That's the same deal with Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville. Go
ahead and put him out there. Maybe it doesn't turn
out to work to be a super Bowl, but I
still think that's the way I would go.

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
More quarterback battles than who else had a big weekend
in Week number one. We'll get to that. That's coming
up next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
Jason Martin, Arnie span you're right here on Fox Sports Radio,
Arnie of course, in for Aaron Torres. Why am I saying,
Arnie and speaking of myself in the third degree there degree, Yeah, third,
Pier said, thank you very much. There By the way, Mary,
this is for you, Phil says. Beg's have sold over
one hundred and twenty million records worldwide, placing them among
the best selling music artists of all time, as well

(01:39:32):
as the most successful trio in the history of contemporary music.
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in nineteen ninety seven. Night Fever requested, boy, you
you've upset a lot.

Speaker 9 (01:39:44):
I'm not poopooing you did you can I'm not poo
pooing you did Thegs.

Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
I think they're a great man. I'm not poopooing them.

Speaker 9 (01:39:52):
And I'm thinking I'm not gonna play them every single week.

Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
You that you will feel our raft.

Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
I will power you will.

Speaker 4 (01:39:59):
It was the guys.

Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Yeah, by the way, Jason's kickoffs. You're liking it. You're
not liking it, and it's no film for me. It's
not what I thought it was gonna be like that.
I don't care, really, are you is it? Because it's
not what.

Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
Happens in a regular season. But I mean it didn't
do him very much as of yet. I just kind
of wish we'd just get rid of the kickoff altogether?

Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
Are we just tweaking it too much? I'm talking about
the game. I mean, look when we've done the baseball
with the pitch clock, and I think it's actually better
for the game of baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:40:32):
Yes it is.

Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
But are we tweaking even all these sports? But are
we tweaking football too much? I mean, look what the
can't touch the defensive receiver, don't hit the quarterback. And
I don't want to be the old guy. You want
to get the clouds, but we didn't have that back
in the seventies and eighties and we got football back then.
Are we just tweaking with the rules too much?

Speaker 4 (01:40:53):
Well, I don't know if the ones you just suggested
would be ones that I would say are going too far.
I think that the kickoff rule, I want to see it, like,
I want to see a lot more of it and
then look at some data and see what it changes
or what it doesn't change.

Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
What do you want out of it? Do you want
like more touchdowns? Do you just want better returns? Do
you just you don't want back?

Speaker 4 (01:41:17):
Well?

Speaker 2 (01:41:17):
I always hate when like there's like forty five seconds left,
your team kicks off and the other team runs the
ball back out to like the forty or the forty
five or fifty and sets up in great field position,
and then next thing you know, they're kicking the field
goal for the win. I want them to earn the
trip down field. I'll know. I thought there was going
to be more breaking for touchdowns, but it doesn't look

(01:41:38):
like that's that's going to be the case at all.

Speaker 4 (01:41:40):
Yeah. I just again, I feel like that the kickoff
is something that's really not even necessary. I think you
keep tweaking it. You want it to be exciting, you
want there to be more kicks returned, which I agree with,
but you don't necessarily want to give guys more of
a head start to initiate contact. You're gonna have more

(01:42:02):
injuries that way, right. I just think, just put the
ball on the twenty five and let's go. Let's play football.
Let's not even mess with this. It's just it just
it feels like something that is It's like, it's almost like,
do you like the alternative possession of the jump ball
in basketball? It's a little different in that there's not
necessarily any danger involved there. The kickoff seems to be

(01:42:25):
an unnecessary play that could result in an injury. In
a physical game where it seems like you're asking the
guys to do more and more. Now you're thinking about
adding yet another game, and I think that's a matter
of when, not if. And I just don't know that
whatever you try to do to tweak the kickoff is
really necessary.

Speaker 5 (01:42:45):
Right, Just move on.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Isn't it crazy for such a big rule change that
we're doing right now, we're implementing, not a low to
talk about it now. People are not called or tweeting
in going this is the most ridiculous thing ever, or
this is the best thing ever. It's not getting any
buzz at all. It's like nothing. It's like, okay, we're
used to it already. I don't know, it's it's just

(01:43:09):
a big rule change. I thought there'd be more people
outraged or you know, bringing it up or anything like that.
I thought we'd see more people saying we're tweaking with
the game too much.

Speaker 4 (01:43:20):
But it doesn't look weird, like the space between the
kicker and the team, like the kicker and their own team.
It is a little odd, Like I'm actually looking at
one right now at the beginning of this Arizona game,
right and like you look at where the kicker is
with on the thirty five and then his guys are

(01:43:40):
up on the opponent's forty. That's just a lot of
just dead space right behind him. And I get it.
I guess again. I just think I think you're tweaking
something that feels very antiquated in the first place.

Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
I want to get to Brandon Ayuk and we'll see
what's going on with him. Is he can go back
to the forty nine ers or are they still not
going to be able to work things out? Plus more,
what happened in week one of the preseason. We'll touch
on all that, But first a final look, it's what's
happening out there with our buddy Martin.

Speaker 3 (01:44:13):
Wiss what's going on? Martin?

Speaker 8 (01:44:15):
They'll start off with some major league baseball games. If not,
I feel like baseball is taking a back seat to
the Olympics a little bit right here, So let's put
them in the front seat right now. Paul Skins and
el rookie Fienom got knocked around early at Chavez Ravine.
Dodgers end up beating the Pirates four to one, all
four runs earned by Paul On Paul Skins Orioles take
the AO West lead.

Speaker 3 (01:44:35):
They beat the Rays seven to five.

Speaker 8 (01:44:37):
Yankee split a double header with the Rangers there in
second Braves battling for that final wildcard spot in the
National League, they beat the Rockies eleven to eight. Mets,
trying to keep pace with the Braves in the National
League playoff front, they beat the Mariners ford to nothing.
Seattle and Houston both tied. I'm sorry, I said Orioles
took the AO West League. Al least, there we go.

(01:44:57):
Seattle in Houston are tied for the AOS leads after
the Astros took care of the Red Sox five to
Jordan Alvarez had two home runs in that game. Earlier today, yesterday,
we saw the rookie quarterbacks make their debut Chicago. Caleb
Williams four for seven for ninety five yards thirteen rushing.
JJ McCarthy was eleven for seventeen one hundred and eighteen yards,

(01:45:20):
two touchdowns in an interception. Jade and Daniels didn't get
much out there, two for three forty five yards, three
yard rushing touchdown for him. Marvin Harrison Junior only played
three snaps. Hollywood Brown got injured on the first play
of the game against Jacksonville. The newest Kansas City chief
wide receiver Andy Reids has told reporters that's a similar

(01:45:41):
type of injury that Tyreek Hill suffered hit twenty nineteen.

Speaker 3 (01:45:45):
Now Hill missed four weeks with.

Speaker 8 (01:45:47):
That injury, so Hollywood Brown right now in danger of
missing the start of the season. Reserve Dolphins offhensive lineman
Keon Smith tore his ACL. In the Olympics, both men
and women took home the golden the four by four
one hundred meter relays. Women's soccer won gold over Brazil
one to nothing. Team USA men's basketball took home the gold,

(01:46:08):
fifth straight gold medal for.

Speaker 3 (01:46:09):
The men, ninety eight to eighty seven. The final score.

Speaker 8 (01:46:12):
Steph Curry really came alive in the last two games
that Team USA played. He was eight for twelve from
three and this one had four of them in the
last five minutes to go ahead and defeat the home
country France. Speaking of medals, the United States has one
hundred and twenty two total thirty eight gold medals, a
trail China in gold by one.

Speaker 3 (01:46:31):
They have thirty nine.

Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
Host France has sixty two medals, sixteen of them gold.
The last event will be today nine to thirty Eastern
women's basketball playing for the gold against France again, so
basically the same thing as the men's side of things.
If it ends the same with the US women winning
the gold medal, it will be a tie for total

(01:46:53):
gold medals in the Olympics, both United States and China
vying for that. Asia Wilson, round the Stewart and the
group they get started nine to thirty Eastern again, that's
against France and the final event of the Olympics closing
ceremonies also later on that day.

Speaker 2 (01:47:10):
Back to you guys, I'm gonna have to check it out.
Thank you, Martin Weisse, everybody appreciate that. I have a
good night, my friend, Jason, Martin, Arnie Spaniel. I'm in
for Aaron Torres right here on Fox Sports Radio, Brandon Ayuk.
I guess they've reopened negotiations with San Francisco. I'm not
sure what happened in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure what happened

(01:47:30):
in New England. I'm not sure what happened in Cleveland.
Where's the best situation for him? Where's he gonna end up?
It to only looks like he'll end up in San Francisco,
which is gonna be a big move for them because
obviously they wanted to keep them, especially if you because
Deebo missed some time with some injuries. But my goodness,

(01:47:52):
it's gonna cost him an arm and a leg to
keep both those guys. It's a lot of money for
some of the weapons they have on that San Francisco team.

Speaker 4 (01:47:59):
Yeah, man, I think you're key point there is that
the Niners wanted to keep him, and I think that's
one thousand percent right. They just want to keep them
at their number exactly, not at his number, or at
least as close to their number as possible. And I
think they do have a number they didn't want to
go above, so we'll never know for sure. But I mean,
did you throw them out there knowing nobody else was

(01:48:20):
going to pay that number either, so that he could
then see that the market wasn't quite what he thought
it was financially England?

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
There was New England, Yeah, Pittsburgh too.

Speaker 4 (01:48:30):
Yeah. Well no, I'm not saying no market, I mean
no market to pay him that number, right, whatever number
he was going to ask for. If you're sitting there
talking to him, you're talking to his representations like here, well,
here's what it's going to cost you, and at that point,
maybe it's too rich for everybody's blood. And you're San
Francisco and you want him to go out there and

(01:48:51):
test that, to figure that out. And it's just like,
hey man, you can go get that, go get that.
If not, we still want you here. And I think
that it's kind of been this game of Chicken where
neither side necessarily had leverage, but neither side needed to
get anything done too fast either, Like when was it
gonna start to cost somebody?

Speaker 2 (01:49:11):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:49:11):
That's when you were gonna see maybe something happen. I
think I think he's gonna stay in San Francisco, and
I think that ultimately probably that's where he wants to be.
But that's definitely the Niners would like him to be
there because they feel like he's the real weapon. You
mentioned Debo being injured also, I just think Debo is
probably gonna be somewhere else at some point as well.

(01:49:32):
And I think You's gonna be maybe they're number one
pass keeping or pass catching option.

Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
You want to talk about chicken, then you know what.
The ultimate game of chicken is going on right now
in Dallas between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, where
he's not gonna get paid, they'll lo'll get to see
what happens after this year. I don't think they're gonna
give him the money after this year. He'll end up
going somewhere else. But I don't think anybody's gonna off
from the money that he thinks that he's going to

(01:49:57):
want worse sixty a year. I don't think that's going
to happen now. Maybe it'll take a little bit less.
But is there a market for Dak Prescott? A big
market out there?

Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
I mean, you see the reports coming out of campus
that he looks dazzling.

Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm sure which is which is Finna?
How can he look? Is he hurt right now? Is
he hurt a little bit? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:50:16):
Regardless, I think will somebody pay him that maybe? I
think we have to keep in mind that salary CAP's
going to continue to go up and explode, and some
of these deals that feel big are gonna really feel
a lot more affordable. Do I think Dak Prescott is
a sixty million dollar quarterback? No, because I've seen him

(01:50:39):
not do anything in January too many times. I think
he is a very good quarterback, But sixty mil is
too rich for me, especially when you're a Cowboys and
you're trying to decide how am I going to pay Dak,
Ceedee Lamb and Micah Parsons and who is most important
to the franchise. I feel like Dak might flourish somewhere

(01:51:01):
else because the pressure might be off a little bit.
He could just go play football. Everything's under a magnifying
glass in Dallas. That might not be the case in
a lot of other places in the league. Ceedee Lamb's
gonna get paid because wide receivers still get paid in
this league.

Speaker 5 (01:51:16):
That may change in the years to.

Speaker 4 (01:51:17):
Come, but they keep coming out of college the way
that they have in the last half decade or so,
where every year you're getting three four guys that come
all pro pretty quick. But I just look at it
and I say, of the three of them, if I
have to pay two of them, I find it hard
to believe I'm not paying Seedee Lamb and Micah Parsons
right now.

Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
Who would you rather pay Dak or Brock Purdy? Because
Brock Party wants to raise pretty soon. Right that guy's
getting like a.

Speaker 4 (01:51:44):
Minimum way not asking for sixty MILLI year nobody's gonna
ask for what he didn't get the last two. Which
one of those two guys do you think is worth
more money Brock Purdy?

Speaker 3 (01:51:55):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (01:51:57):
I still think it's Dak because I think if you
put Dak into San Francisco, I don't think there's much
difference in terms of I don't think you have a
drop off from Dak Prescott coming from brock Perty. I
still think Brock with all due respect, everything at brock
Perty is accomplished. He has done it around a whole
lot of talent and an amazing offensive minding Kyle Shanahan.

Speaker 3 (01:52:17):
How much would Jack Kyle.

Speaker 4 (01:52:18):
Shanahan Dak Prescott? I think they're probably winning a whole
lot of football games.

Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
But if you're the agent for brock Perty, how much
you're gonna say, Okay, now, this is what we've done
the last couple of years. How much you're gonna ask
for forty fifty million?

Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
What does that mean?

Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
You know you're probably looking at that four number. I
think you're probably in the forties. But I think you
do have to be I don't think he becomes next
man up. He's not going to be the guy that
just continually gets more because he's the next one to
get paid. Because I used to I think everyone knows
he's not irreplaceable.

Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
Well, he's not going to be too far off of
the what five year, two hundred and fifty million dollars
or something close to that.

Speaker 4 (01:53:00):
These that's the greatest money that a mister irrelevant will
ever make.

Speaker 3 (01:53:04):
That you're right about that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
By the way, as the nation is struggling with rising expenses,
Fox Sports Radio and tirec dot Com if teamed up

finish off today's preseason all that's next right here on
sports or Radio. By the way, I gotta thank the crew.
Always want to thank Jason Martin, thanks for letting him
sit and sit in today with him. That's easy for
me to say. Thanks Aaron Torres, who took the night off.

(01:54:12):
By the way, I gotta thank Mary and Brie. Thanks
Em and m and Brie, because they always complain if
I don't thank that, They're like, ick, have you never
had us? We have you never digas?

Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
We have never said that, by the way, Yeah, and
you talk just.

Speaker 2 (01:54:24):
Like that right now, Yeah, you never digas. So I
want to thank them. Finally, thanks to Martin Weiss uh so,
the whole crew that made this happen out there. By
the way, I got a tweet from Eric that says,
preseason is the free season. Question mark Arnie's picks Brown
minus three and a half, Ravens Bill's Bengals all lost. Jason,

(01:54:48):
I went one in nine of my picks from last
Sunday or that I put out on Twitter.

Speaker 4 (01:54:52):
Stop doing picks for preseason games.

Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
But preseason is the free season, it is easy to win.
I just a bad week. I don't know what happened
one and nine one, and that's hard to do.

Speaker 4 (01:55:05):
Yeah, I mean it really is. I mean you've literally
had a ten percent clip you it.

Speaker 2 (01:55:11):
Matter of fact, I don't think I could purposely go
one and nine.

Speaker 4 (01:55:15):
I couldn't do that. Again, it's almost impressive. Yeah, I
mean leskill like three and seven.

Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
Oh, in ten is just as tough as ten and oh,
I guess I'm he's I'm thinking, how could I be
so wrong on nine? How do you get nine preseason
games wrong? You know, maybe if you're in the regular season,
you're taking all the favorites or all the dogs. How
the hell you get nine games wrong out of ten
in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (01:55:40):
The one that you got right.

Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
The one that I that's a good question. The one
I got right was the first game of the week,
the Patriots minus six and a half and they won
seventeen to three. All right, that's the That's the only
one I got right. Everyone else completely wrong and not
even close too. It's actually in I don't even return

(01:56:04):
the boss's phone calls or text because I'm afraid he's
gonna fire me.

Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
I should be three Patriots. That might be the best
win they have all year. They're gonna be arm touchdown.
When matter of.

Speaker 2 (01:56:17):
Fact, well, since you bring that up and you said
you might as well go with rookie quarterbacks Bailey Zappy
or Joe Milton the third who looked okay, But we
did hear reports that Joe Milton dirt looks good in
practice out there. I'd like to see him get the job.

Speaker 3 (01:56:30):
I want to see what he could do well.

Speaker 4 (01:56:32):
He could throw the ball ninety yards as well as
you don't need him to actually find a receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:56:36):
You're not a you're not a fan, huh.

Speaker 4 (01:56:38):
It's not about him as a as a young man.
I mean he was. I mean he played for Tennessee
after transferring from Michigan, and so I mean I covered
him and then I've watched him since I haven't had
the beat to cover him on more of a day
to day basis, and he's just not accurate.

Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
Like, oh, they got Drake Rale arm was the big
pick out there, but you hear that he's uh, you know,
taken a little bit longer than they thought.

Speaker 4 (01:57:04):
Well, I mean, if you watch him in North Carolina,
he reminded me a lot of Sam Howell when it
came to a guy that had a lot, a lot
of talk about him until the last year he played
in college. Right, Sam Howell didn't have a great finishing
year and he went into the NFL and it didn't
work out. Drake may came in with all that hype.
It was him, Mikayla Williams, it's gonna be wanted to him,

(01:57:24):
MICHAELEB Williams, and then he got lapped by a couple
of other guys and all of a sudden, he just
didn't look great. And I don't know if it was
his supporting cast or not, but the problem is this,
Let's say it was his supporting cast at Carolina, well
supporting cast in New England. Compared to the rest of
the NFL. On the offensive side of the football, you

(01:57:45):
got the same problem.

Speaker 5 (01:57:47):
So that that's going to be a concern.

Speaker 2 (01:57:51):
If you want to jump smart radio, I'm in stinking
genius one. You talked about rookie quarterbacks. What about Michael
Pennix junior in Atlanta. I mean, look, he didn't put
up big numbers of that over a hundred yards passing.
I don't know if that means anything to you. I
think a lot of people are gonna be clamoring for
him that are Falcon fans over Cousins.

Speaker 4 (01:58:11):
I think it's more just how how long is Cousins?
How long is the leash for Cousins when it comes
to mediocrity. If he comes out there and he's not
great for four or five weeks, how fast are you?
I think the sea change in terms of the fans
will be very quick because there's not in the equity
there and Kirk Cousins. At this point, you know what

(01:58:33):
he is. He's a He's a pretty good quarterback. Right
sometimes he can be a very good quarterback. But what's
the ceiling? I don't think. I don't think you bring
in Kirk Cousins to Atlanta to win a Super Bowl.
He's more of a bridge guy. And maybe he knew
it as soon as they pick Pennix. But at the
very least, if you're going to use a top ten
pick on that guy, he's probably gonna have to get

(01:58:53):
in the game. At some point.

Speaker 2 (01:58:56):
You're gonna start justin fields or Russell Wilson. Like I
guess it depends on how healthy Russell Wilson's gonna be
to start the season off.

Speaker 4 (01:59:02):
I don't see any reason to play Russell Wilson. I
just don't. I'm playing justin Fields unless he gives me
a reason not to wow, if they're even closed, I'm
taking Fields because I mean, what is Wilson at this point?
What's he really gonna do right else is a guy
you need to figure out he can be a guy
for you long term. And he's a guy that's athletic.
They've got a lot of receivers and weapons that he

(01:59:23):
can use. He's somebody. They have not had an athlete
like that at that position in a long time. I'm
letting Fields get the shot because I think we know
what Russell Wilson is at this point, and there's nothing
gained by him playing. You got him for a ham
sandwich anyway, Play the other guy to determine whether he
can be your guy.

Speaker 2 (01:59:41):
Jason, have a good night. Always a pleasure, my friend.
I'm back tomorrow with Chris Plank coming up next, Bernie Fraddo,
The Great Ones. Stay tuned f him
