Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh here we go into a Sunday night and from
the files of you don't know what you got till
it's gone. I don't know about you, Ephraim, but that's
something I'm always hesitant to do, and that is let
go of something.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
That worked a little bit too early.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I think we, especially as a sports society, we tend
to give up on things a little bit too early.
And this is inspired by the men's Olympic team. And
I'll explain what I'm getting at. But that's enough of that.
First and foremost, good evening, brother.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
How you doing. I'm good? How you doing? Oh man?
I could not be better.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Life is good, brother, And we're broadcasting live from the
Tirak dot com studios tyrat dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
We'll help you get there on that.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Selection fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over
ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com. The way tire
buying should be. I'll just use this as a fun
kind of side example. So justin Jefferson has played what
in the NFL four years?
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Three four years? Right, Okay, his rookie year.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
As a fantasy football drafter, I don't know what, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth,
fourteenth round whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I'm like, I like this guy, Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I actually wanted the Niners to pick him earlier in
the first round. They didn't do it, and I'm a
big Justin Jefferson. Man, I'm gonna grab Justin Jefferson, hey,
late fly or whatever. And then about.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Six weeks into the season, I have.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
The inevitable fantasy football roster crunch, injuries and poor play takeover,
and You're like, I need a spot, I need to
grab someone off the wire.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Well, boy, I grabbed Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
And I still think he's going to be really good someday,
but it doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.
You know, Stefan Diggs is still there, and so Aphraim
I let him go and and a buddy of mine
picked him up. And I think my buddy went on
to win the Fantasy Championship that year. And I never
forgot that because I hate that. I hate giving up
(02:11):
on things too soon. And I'm wondering if all of us,
maybe not me and you, but I'm very curious your
perspective here. I'm wondering if all of us have done
that to Steph Curry and Lebron James, who got together
with the best in the world and very much at
their advanced ages, still looked like the best in the world.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
These two guys have been.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Dancing around the playing tournament a lot in the last
couple of years. I'm not saying that they're every bit
that they've always been, but man, this tournament gave me
pause with the idea of whether or not those two
guys could still be the one on a championship team.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I do.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
I think they could be because if you were to
take the last champions, the Boston Celtics, and if you
were to replace Jason Tatum or Jalen Brown with either
Steph for Lebron, I believe they can win the championship.
(03:22):
So if the question is can they still be, you know,
the one on the championship team, it just depends on
how good that championship team is. Now. Could Lebron take
a bunch of guys CPA g leaguer and ATTACKSI Durmy
to the finals like he was doing when he was
in Cleveland. No, no, he can't. But could they still
(03:49):
be at the clip that they're playing. We just saw
Lebron James literally put the USA team on his back
against the world, and Steph came up and cleaned it up.
And so when you ask me that question, it's absolutely
watching them play against the world at this high level
with limited practice and you know, team unity or bonding
(04:11):
or whatever. That is just watching how those two men
went about their business. That's leadership. That's just leadership. It
just I mean, you when you see it, you know
what it is. And so, yes, I believe they can.
The team has to be put together extremely well, and
you know, everybody has to play their part in their role,
(04:32):
but I yes, I do believe they could be the
ones on a championship roster.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
The only question that still pops in my head. And
I know, and we'll get to all of it. I
know there's a lot of stuff out there with regard
to the minutes, how they were allocated, Jason Tatum, Tyrese Halliburton,
all of these things.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I totally understand it. But I guess the only question
I have left is team.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Say the Olympics, they're not like going for a championship,
You're going for a gold medal. But it's different it
still has a little bit of an exhibition feel in
that you've thrown a roster together. They're not teammates. They're
told that they need to get to know one another.
As far as actual offense and defensive approaches, they have
(05:22):
to do that all pretty quickly. So as far as
who kind of rises to the top, the cream rises
to the top. It really caught my attention that it
was Steph Lebron and Kevin Durant, the three oldest dudes
that that were there. Now, how much of that though,
and why I bring up the fact that it's still
(05:44):
kind of you know, look, it obviously matters, it matters
a lot. You're playing for your country, but it's not
like the everyday grind of an NBA season. So how
much of that minute allocation and the offense running through
the those three guys, how much of that was almost
just like a side of respect from the whole outfit
(06:06):
as opposed to those are just the best players.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Well, no, I don't think it was any of that.
I think respect a side of course, everybody has great
respect for those three gentlemen. But the fact of it
being a necessity when KD came off the bench in
that first game from not being you know, having the
calf issue, he was seven for seven, five for five
(06:31):
from three, so immediately he had you got to see exactly, okay,
what he's bringing. He's the most prolific scorer in Olympic history,
and so it's it's one of those situations where look,
nothing was you know, was just given to them outside
(06:56):
of the fact that hey, this is your team Lebron
James on that stage of the world. I was just
sitting there like, oh my god, this is crazy, right.
And granted it wasn't an entire eighty two game NBA season,
it was six games, but they were intense. He was
tapped in, locked in playing defense, even tried to take
(07:19):
a charge, got punched on, you know, like it wasn't
it was all hands on deck, and the guys on
the team did not have a problem with him leading them.
And that's the sign of not only respect, but oh
he got this thing because you all knew in the
(07:41):
fourth quarter when Lebron James had the ball, you knew
something was going to happen. Now, him being with the
greatest shooter on the planet Earth, sure, right, that made
a huge difference because when he did drive or they
did that Lebron Steph high screen role. That's guaranteed money,
(08:02):
literally printing money. Who is Lebron in the regular season
playing with in the NBA season playing with like that?
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Nobody isn't anybody like that, No anybody else like that exists.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
So when you watch them, and you watched the other
team feed the other teammates feed off of that, that
pick and roll was done. If it was either a
high screen and roll with Steph orkd that was it.
That was the medicine. Everybody else was spotting up or
diving for the rebounds. And when you have those three
(08:37):
guys making the decisions at the end of the games
which needed to be made because they have they have
some tough ones, it goes to show you just the
greatness of them currently now at thirty at thirty nine,
thirty six, and thirty five, amazing, unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I don't know if there are words like I really
you know, it's funny, a friend of mine said, because
I made this point after they won the semi final matchup,
the matchup to get to the gold medal round, and
Steph scored what was it, thirty six points and had
the dagger in all this, and I'm right, and I'm
(09:21):
sitting here going good Lord, Like here we are talking
about Steph and Lebron as much as we do. They're
the ratings drivers in the NBA for over a decade,
but we're largely looking at them right now as individuals
where we're like, man, it's still really impressive.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
The way those two play.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Their teams are not as relevant as maybe we want
them to be, or or they have.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Been in the last few years.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
But hey, round of applause, you still look real good.
There's something dismissive about that. And these Olympics started to
adjust my thinking. And a friend of mine goes, what
do you think it was going to look like? Of course,
these are the three best players on Team USA. And
I stopped and thought about that, and I went, you
(10:10):
know what, I really didn't think it was going to
look this way. I don't know if I could answer
how I thought it would look. I did not think
when you list those twelve players to me, at no
point did I go, well, Steph, Lebron and KD are
going to be the absolute nucleus corps, the players that
(10:32):
matter and other high level, incredible, first team level NBA
talent would.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
At times not even get into the game.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I did not think it would look like that, but
it looked like that, and so I am rejuvenated in
not wanting to move on from those players and their
NBA teams still potentially being relevant this year and beyond.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Yeah, I think the onus is on the organization to
understand what they have and to possibly you know, Golden
State's doing that. They're making moves, They're making decisions so
they can prolong Steph's career and give them an opportunity
(11:26):
to continue to play at a high level for something meaningful.
Outside of that, you're wasting greatness, and I think that's
a shame. I wish the Lakers would come on board
and figure something out because having Lebron James play at
this clip, having Anthony Davis playing like he played this
(11:49):
past season, I mean, you have a very tiny, small
window of an opportunity. Everybody else is getting ready. Everybody
who the Lakers wanted to date, you know, they swiped
left on them in terms of free agency. Everybody they
wanted swipe left. So what do you do right? How
(12:10):
do you put together a team that can really one
last gasp for Lebron James and really try to compete
in the Western Conference. It'd be interesting to know how
that's going to shake out.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
No doubt.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
And then don't forget I mean, we do we forget that.
At the beginning of last NBA season, there was a
whole lot of buzz about the Phoenix Suns. There was
a whole lot of buzz about the Phoenix Suns. Right
they had gotten Bradley Beal and that was the you know,
an incredibly top heavy, high end roster. But they were
(12:48):
among the favorites, top two favorites in the Western Conference,
and they kind of had a sleepy season and people
decided that these contracts are just out of whack. But
they need a point guard and you know, Tyas Jones, like,
there's some different things that the Sons are doing this year.
(13:08):
I wouldn't count them out either. I wouldn't count them
out either. They got a new coach. They're gonna work
things around Kevin Durant. I don't know, like I realize
they are declining players simply because of how many years
they've been on the Earth. But this was eye opening
to me that the top level NBA talent all got
(13:29):
together and still looked directly to those three guys.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Yeah, the proof is in the pudding and the one
thing you need when you go off and you play
in Foeba and Olympics, you need maturity. Okay, athleticism, all
of that. You know, of shooting, all of that's great,
(13:57):
but the maturity comes from Basketball IQ, which can see
situations before they're happening and can address those situations in
a timely manner. No panic there whatsoever. And so we
talk about Steph, you talk about KD, and you talk
about Lebron James. All of been league MVPs. All of
(14:23):
them have been finals MVPs, all of them have won
multiple championships. And so when you talk about maturity that
has been through every situation, been down by twenty in
the fourth, been up by two with a minute to go.
They've seen and been a part of every single scenario
(14:46):
in basketball. So there is no wonder that the team
coaches would lean on them in the last two games
that they played, which they needed every bit of them
to win. I mean it comes with maturity, and that's
what it is. You can have. You you can be
Anthony da Anthony Edwards jumping out the gym yeah, bam
(15:09):
out to buy you. You can have all of this,
all of them, but nothing beats experience because when you
have experience and you have maturity, you don't panic.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
America wins go.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
It was fascinating, However, it was not without controversy. Sports
next episode of Mama Don't Tweets has been.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
Developed and we need to get to that next.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
All right, this is live in the tire raq dot
com studios. That's it from salam Mark Willard. I want
to get out of the way and let you weigh
in on this one first, okay. Jason Tatum's mom responded
to broadcasting legend Dick Vital on Twitter. Dick Vital wrote,
(17:33):
somebody please let me know is Jason Tatum injured as
he hasn't received the pt that you would expect an
All NBA player to get, And Mama responded, no, you not,
but if you find out what's going on, please let
me know. Unacceptable and makes all caps no sense.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Talk to me. What do you think?
Speaker 4 (18:05):
How effective was Jason Tatum?
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Uh? This Olympics?
Speaker 2 (18:13):
I don't even necessarily know how to answer that, Like,
not not that effective when he Yeah, not when he
when he played?
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Not did he make a three or did he make
a jump shot at any point? At any point?
Speaker 3 (18:29):
I mean, I don't have all stats in front of me.
I'm gathering no, so.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
When you have a collection of talent and look, I'm
not taking anything away from Jason Tatum. I think he's
a tremendous player. I think he's a tremendous player. He's
he was the only first team All NBA player on
the Olympic team. The other four were essentially playing against
(18:58):
the US, right, so you would say, okay, well, with that,
he should be playing. But when he did play, it
wasn't you know. And look and most of the games
(19:18):
the US came out, they handled their business. They knew
what they were going to do so on and so forth.
Everybody's not going to play, right, Like, everybody's not going
to get considerable minutes. Do you say, well, he should
be starting over Devin Booker. Well, that's what practices were for,
(19:43):
that's what chemistry was for. Well, he should come in
before Devin White. Well, obviously they have information that we
don't have. It's not that they don't like Jason Tatum. Right,
joelan Biid didn't play a lot, did he not?
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Not the last one, but he had he had a
big role and some argued way too long of a
role in the semi final.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
But do you know why the reason Joel Embiid is
on this team. Number one was so he didn't play
for France, right, and number two to go up against
Nicola Jokic from Serbia. Joelanbid gave us size that we
did not have on this Olympic team. Name me another
(20:35):
big All star caliber player in the NBA that wasn't
on this roster exactly.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
So, I mean I could have said, Carl Anthony Towns
if you wanted me.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
To, well, is that what do you is that what
you're you're bringing?
Speaker 3 (20:54):
No, because he doesn't like to go inside the three,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
He's not playing anywhere in there. Yeah yeah, So, I
mean they wouldn't got Rudy Gobert, so he wouldn't have
to yep, and they start together. So in terms of
putting a team together, the only three players on the
team that didn't have to try out were Lebron, Stephan Clay.
(21:18):
I mean, Lebron, Steph and KD. That was it. They were,
hey man, y'all want to play, y'all can come on
in here and play. It was it was training. Everybody
else had the priority, and then they picked the team
from that. So all I would say with you know,
the Jason Tatum situation is no, he wasn't hurt. He
(21:39):
wasn't as effective as others were, so he played less
than others. When Joel and b was ineffective, he didn't
play at all, and they were criticized. They were very
critical of his efforts. But when they needed him against
the best big man in the world, he showed up
(22:00):
and showed out. And that's what being a pro and
an All Star is all about. Period. You gotta take
the good. You gotta take the good with the bad,
just like whenever we run over in time, right, I
get this glare, this eagle eye glare from our MVP,
(22:22):
from our All first team, All Broadcast selection and won
steven eagle eye to say here.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
I think you're just seeing the glare, literally the glare
on the glass in front of me. But guys, yesterday,
of course, was the US men beating France for the
gold medal. Today US women's basketball beat France in Paris
for the gold medal sixty seven sixty six the final,
and the Americans were down by ten points in the
third quarter. The score was thirty five twenty five. The
(22:52):
US had twenty five and it was the third quarter,
but it matter. At the last five minutes of the game,
the US went thirteen to fourteen on free throws. Here
are the Americans that had fifteen turnovers first half, nineteen
for the game. France's last second shot banked in, but
the shooter's foot was clearly on the three point line.
France lost by one. Asia Wilson twenty one points, thirteen rebounds,
(23:14):
four blocks after she started two of ten shooting from
the floor. Today, Wilson was named MVP of the Olympic Tournament.
Brittany Griner played less than five minutes in this game
Diana Tarassi did not play. It is their eighth straight
gold medal, most with Tarasi on the roster. The US
women haven't lost a game in the Olympics since nineteen
ninety two sixty one straight victories in Olympic play, and
(23:37):
in the previous sixty straight wins, the US women had
been held to a single digit victory only twice. This
was the fortieth gold medal in France for Team USA.
In general, tyme China for the most this summer. Overall,
the US had one hundred and twenty six medals, China
with ninety one. And as you mentioned, the US men
winning that gold medal against France yesterday is Steph Curry
(23:58):
from three point range was eight for twelve for his
twenty four points. And in the Semis, remember the US
came from seventeen points down.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
To beat Serbia.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
The US led for less than three and a half
minutes in that game, where Steph Curry scored thirty six
points and had nine three pointers made the second half
of Thursday's American comeback win drew thirteen and a half
million TV viewers here, more than any NBA Finals game
since the Golden State clincher. In twenty twenty two. This
was a Thursday daytime, not a Sunday night prime time.
(24:31):
Astounding numbers for the Olympics in general. This summer, USA
women's basketball was swept by Italy, and today's final US
men's water polo won its bronze medal match in a
shootout eleven eight over Hungary cyclist Jennifer Valentia. The US
took Golden Women's Omnium. The closing ceremony was today NASCAR's
at Richmond tonight with the race in progress there threw
(24:52):
three hundred and twenty five laps of the four hundred scheduled.
Denny Hamlin in the lead, Austin Dillon second. Joey Logano
is run third. In MLB action at Seattle, its Mariners
over the Mets four to nothing in the bottom of
the fifth. Earlier today, the Yankees edge Texas eight to seven,
Tampa Bay edge Baltimore two to one. Cleveland got a
(25:12):
five to three win at Minnesota, and we had two
NFL exhibitions today. Denver a thirty four to thirty winner
at Indianapolis, but the game in LA had the Rams
beating Dallas thirteen to twelve on a late touchdown pass
by Stetson Bennett, who had thrown four interceptions.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
In this one.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
The only TD of the game came with four seconds left.
Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance had six carries forty four yards passing.
He was twenty five of forty one forty one pass
attempts in an exhibition, all of that for only one
hundred and eighty eight yards through the air. Trey Lance
played nearly the whole game. He came in after the
first series one final note, you were talking about the
(25:52):
men's team. The win in Paris against France hit hard,
apparently at McDonald's France.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
As joking.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
They posted an Instagram message today after the loss to
Curry and Company saying, quote, for obvious reasons, we are
considering removing this sauce, and they included a picture of
their Curry dipping sauce.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
I love that, and I'm not done with the Tatum thing.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
But because Steve just gave the details, and Steve, thank
you for that the context of the Trey Lance performance,
because I'll admit a little hole in my game today,
I've got the kids out on vacation. I actually spent
the day out on a laker.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
I would.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
I know, I know, Sunday in August, stupid me for
going on a boat. But anyway, we were on a boat,
and so I didn't. I didn't watch the Rams play
the Cowboys. I do remember that those are the two
teams that were playing each other in the preseason when
the legend that is Dak Prescott was born. Do you
remember that it happened at the LA Coliseum and everybody
(26:59):
freaked out. Well, anyway, I get a buzz that like,
Trey Lance looked good?
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Did he? I mean, you heard those numbers?
Speaker 2 (27:11):
He was given an entire preseason game, which is rare
in and of itself, but secondarily twenty five or forty one,
that's fine. He didn't turn the ball over, he did
not throw a touchdown pass. The team scored twelve points
in forty one pass attempts. He threw for one hundred
and eighty eight yards. That is an average of four
(27:34):
point six yards per attempt. That is checks notes not good.
His quarterback rating for the game seventy two. Did Trey
Lance look good?
Speaker 4 (27:49):
The thing that I'll say about that, and I'm looking
at this through through different glasses than someone who would
just be like, oh, this is awful. This is probably
the longest we've seen him play in two years, no doubt.
This is probably the longest he has played in two years.
(28:11):
Prior to that, he hadn't played a bunch of football
in life in general.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Good point.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
So what I saw was I saw he looked different
than he did in San Francisco. The game didn't look
too fast and too big for him. The thing that
I liked about what Trey Lance was doing was when
the pocket did break down, Oh and it did, he scrambled,
(28:42):
but he kept his eyes down feel that's good. And
he made throws on the run off script, off time,
and he completed some passes down the field and other situations.
He kept his eyes downfield, and he extended drives on
(29:05):
third and nine, third and twelve with his legs after
no one came open down the field, he was able
to maneuver in the pocket, break the pocket, and pick
up the first down. To me, those things are amazing
for someone we haven't seen play a lot of football,
(29:26):
and I'm taking it as that is a step forward. Now,
if I were Dallas, I would let him play. I
believe they have two more preseason games. I would let
him play all of them, all of them, every snap,
in every play in both of those games, because that
is the only way they're going to be able to
(29:49):
really make a decision now if he progresses from this
game to the next game, because I believe most if
this according to the new way the three preseason games,
if you are gonna play starters, it'll probably be in
the second preseason game because you're definitely not gonna play
(30:10):
them in a third. So this will be a test
for them, and they play the Raiders, so this will
be a test for them in Oakland on the road.
I think it would be great for him and his growth.
(30:33):
Now you can start to try to make a collective decision.
Does he have enough to warrant being the backup to
Dak Prescott this year?
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (30:44):
I don't even know to what level they're considering that
Cooper Rush comes in. Does one series goes two for
three for forty four yards and then that's it? But yeah,
maybe they are considering it. Or does he stay as
QB three. I'll also say this, it's funny you're talking
about it. There's two more preseason games to go for
the Cowboys, the Cowboys versus the Rams.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
I'm looking at the box score.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Now there were a total of like almost a zero
players who are going to actually play in regular season
games who played in this game. The Rams are famous
for this. Sean McVay just flat out doesn't do it.
And the Cowboys they might be lacking readiness for the
season more than any team I have ever seen in
(31:26):
this era. I mean, Jerry Jones is publicly being yet
we got no urgency on the Ceedee Lamb thing. Haven't
addressed the Dak Prescott thing. Nobody thinks any of the
running backs in the entire room.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Or any good. They didn't do anything this offseason.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Seemingly do they know that there's a game in four
weeks they're there supposed to try to win.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
Like, look, I don't know. And maybe this is part
of Jerry Jones' evil mastermind of drumming up relevancy, because
I mean, everybody has to be talking about the lack
of preparation, of lack of urgency, everything you just mentioned
With the Dallas Cowboys, everybody has to be talking about
(32:09):
what are they doing? Like what is happening? They're no
running backs? Ezekiel Ellot is penciled in as a starter,
and what world are we doing that you have no
receivers you, I mean, you're bona fide all pro receiver
is nowhere to be found and yet antagonizing him. And
(32:32):
and you know, Dak Prescott is in a year where
he needs all the help and all the weapons he
can get and it's just not being done. So I
don't know if he's self sabotaging. And I don't know,
but guess what we're talking about it. We're asking the
question what's going on with Dallas?
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Who has that? For you?
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Nothing? I mean Jerry Jones, as we know, loves publicity.
I love but whether you win or lose. For you,
whether you win or lose, he would rather you talk
about the team, whether they're terrible or good, as long
as you're talking about us.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
I don't know, man, get getting loled on Twitter by
your star wide receiver. That ain't good. I don't that's
not consider that. That's not the good attention.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
No, you don't want that.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
No.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
And speaking of which, I do want to circle back
to the Tatum thing, because you made great points with
regard to Tatum and his effectiveness and his minutes and
all that. What's simply about the fact that Mom went
to Twitter because that's a thing now that most players
I've talked to, you know, would prefer that family members don't.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Please don't.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, I'd love to hear you speak on that. Coming
up next, Mark, Mark Willardy from salam This is Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to

Speaker 3 (33:59):
Tyreck dot com studios. That's where we talk.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
That is he from Salamon I, Mark Weather, thank you
for being with us here on this Sunday evening. A
lot still to get to Olympics related NFL preseason.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
All kinds of places to go. All right, So let's
circle back.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Jason Tatum's mom tweets out unacceptable and makes no sense
with regard.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
To JT's playing time. This is before the gold.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Medal game where Jason got eleven minutes and scored a bucket.
But in general, when things are frustrated for a player
and the inner circle wife, the kids, the mom, the dad,
the brother, the sister, the husband, go on social media
(34:50):
and fire away, what are your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (34:52):
I don't like it. I don't like it because Number one,
no matter what you think you know as of someone's mom, parent, brother, cousin, sister, husband,
you don't know the full story. You're only getting one
side of the story. Whether said person said athlete is
(35:13):
complaining to you, are telling you their side of the story.
So you don't have all the information. And if someone
is speaking out who doesn't have all the information, that's
never a good thing in any facet, especially when it
has nothing to do with you personally. Yes, that is
(35:37):
her son, I get it right, but it's not happening
to you, So you're not in the room, you're not
having the conversations, and you don't know what's going on. Right,
because there have been times things happen in my career
where my wife wanted to get in the car. It
(36:00):
was no social media back then, but you wanted to
get in the car and go up to the facility,
kick the door in and start flipping over tables right.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
The sports right.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
No, of course they're going to be emotional when it
comes to their loved one. We all are. We all are.
I gotta listen to Dad's all day when I'm coaching,
wondering you know this and that, and I get it.
Hey man, I get it, But you weren't at practice
(36:35):
this week when he couldn't do run to play, He
couldn't make a shot to save his life. Like, you don't.
You don't get to know all of the things. So
to speak on something that you don't have all the
information about, it's only to the detriment of the athlete.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Well, I like, and as.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
You don't need your mama to fight your battles.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
No you don't.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
I'm trying to think of a time when a family
member on social media actually led to something good. And
in fact, I can't really think of that many times
when the player or the agent or the high level
reporter going to bat on social media. I do think
it happens. It is Anne Avenue in twenty twenty four.
(37:25):
One thing that comes to mind, There was, there was
you know again, same thing, same coach. Steve Kerr and
his minute allocation is something that we locally in the
Bay we talk about every single week.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
All year long.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Steve Kerr and his rotations. For whatever reason, it really
gets under people's skin. Apparently four rings is not quite
enough enough, not enough to convince people that he might
have a slight idea what he's doing. And in this case,
he's got Spolstra, he's got ty lu like, he's got
a who's who of NBA coach sitting there on the
(38:01):
staff and apparently we're out here in Twitterville going bunch
of idiots. Okay, fine, if that's what you think, that's
we're all allowed to have that opinion. But there was
a situation earlier this year with the Warriors where Jonathan Kaminga,
presumably his agent, finally went to sham Sharania and said,
(38:22):
Jonathan has lost faith of faith in this coaching staff
because he wasn't getting the minutes and he no longer
believes that Steve Kerr is the coach for him to
sort of grow under. The very next night, Kaminga's minutes
went up and they stayed up, and Kaminga averaged like
(38:43):
close to twenty points a.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Game the rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
So you can argue that maybe social media air quotes
helped a little bit there, but largely this is just
a place to vent and unfortunate. I think venting usually
does better in private.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
He always, yeah, always, or a therapist office, right, either one.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
You need to get it off your chest. You don't
need to let the whole world know about it, because
because it just puts more you're irrational by definition if
you're feeling that one man.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Look, the man just won an NBA championship. He's got
a gold medal. Now, didn't play a lot, didn't play
well when he did play. Okay, are we He's got
a gold medal. Let's move on. Tyrese Holliburton is taking
(39:42):
it pretty well.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
His player that hit him.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
His tweet was hilarious.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
It was hysterical for those who didn't see it. He said,
basically took a picture of himself and it was like
when you don't do anything on the group project, but
you still.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Can get to a right. But guess what in four years,
in twenty twenty eight, he'll be a part of that team.
He'll be a part of that team after going through
the gauntlet of the Olympics. What it means, right, you
have to bring the younger players along. There will be
(40:17):
no Lebron, Steph or KD. So who's next. This will
be a perfect opportunity for Jason Tatum to take over
the reins. He'll be what thirty two or thirty one? No,
if Lebron's leading the way in four years. Then we
really got to start questioning some things. But I don't
think that's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
More on the.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Olympics, but a different question coming up next. I'm holding
all the wide receiver stuff until later. I need a
break from wide receivers.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
I don't know about you.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I know you just celebrated the greatness of one of
your favorite wide receivers who was Captain not at the
Hall of Fame induction ceremony not too long ago. But
we got a lot of wide receivers that need a
lot of things right now, and I just need a
(41:12):
moment to formulate my thoughts and we'll get there. Instead,
I have a different question for you about the Olympics,
and I do want to try to get this across
without making anybody upset. Let me first just say we're
broadcasting live from the Tirak dot com studios. Tyrac dot
com will help you get there on matt selection, fast
free shipping, free roadhouserd protection in over ten thousand recommended installers,
(41:34):
tyrac dot com The way tire buying should be. I
bet that our guy Steve Disager, I bet he's twenty
eight minutes away from potentially in what he has to
share with us. It might be the metal count. The
metal count might be out there. I for one, and
I know I'm going to lose this battle. I would
(41:57):
love for the metal count to go away.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
This is what I'm trying to say here. I'll try
to get I know, just just hear me out.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
On an individual level, if you give me a LEDECI
or that race that you and I were freaking out
about with Noah Lyles last week, or even what either
of the basketball teams have just achieved and the women's
soccer team, and on an individual level, I can be
(42:34):
impressed and prideful and amazed and congratulatory for American athletes
when they achieved their lifelong dream. I think it's amazing
and there's not a damn thing in the world that
could take anything away from that.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
And nothing shit. However, here's here's the bigger view.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
When we look at the Olympics as a medal count
and we pat ourselves on the back, you know, for
beating like Ghana, it just it comes off as odd
to me. It's a little self indulgent. When we've got
(43:21):
all the money and all the people and all the
resources and then we go, look at us, we beat
you again. Like in other words, we already knew we
were going to get the most medals. No, we knew
that before this started.
Speaker 4 (43:39):
Well, we knew we'd have the most total medals. Yes, yes,
but the race is truly with who gets the most
gold medals. That's where the race really lies.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Okay, and how many countries are we really competing with one?
Speaker 4 (43:53):
Okay, you're talking about all right, this is all right,
these are secrets.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Well, then that's a pretty small opponent to defeat.
Speaker 4 (44:05):
Yeah, but it's also a superpower fair and it has,
you know, whether you want to believe it or not,
it has also political ramifications. Yes, so it's a the
biggest thing. And this goes back to the was the
nineteen thirty eight Olympics, I believe, I don't know with
(44:26):
Jesse Owens, Yes, who was considered you know, less than
human and far less superior than the Aryan race in
front of Hitler to beat everyone who was up against him. Yes,
(44:51):
there's more to that level of performance in terms of
just athletes competing against each other. The Olympics is always
like that, well we're.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Visual that was like, that's the part that I.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
Love, yes, but we also as individuals, as athletes, also
represent the totality of a country, a country that in
some cases may not be as you know, together as
(45:29):
as it should be.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
I was wondering what word you're going to put it on.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
I'm trying to I'm trying to get this thing out right.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
Go slow, We got time.
Speaker 4 (45:37):
And so the one thing I love about sport, especially
the Olympics, but in sport in general, is no matter what,
when it comes to your team, your country, no matter
what your beliefs are, religious background, you can find a
(45:59):
sense of pride, in a sense of self in cheering
for your team. That's what the Olympics is about. Yes,
And so the medal count matters because winning matters when
(46:20):
you compete. Winning matters on any I don't want to
say on any level, but on a professional level, winning matters.
We revere the you know, Kansas City Chiefs and what
they're doing and how they've been able to consistent. We
(46:43):
revere the Goat, Tom Brady and the Patriots, and right
we revere the Celtics and the Nuggets. Like so, when
when you're competing, it matters, right, winning matters, And when
(47:07):
it's a worldwide thing right, and some people's minds, the
United States has taken a step back in terms of
world powers because of the discourse in this country. We're
a divided country. There's no secret there once was a
political thing where there is no bipartisanship anymore. And so
(47:34):
when you look at the grand scheme of thing everywhether
you're going where they're Republican, Democrat, independent, whatever it was.
When you watch the Olympics, you were cheering for the
United States. That should be a microcosm of how we
feel about each other in this country. If you have
(47:58):
a problem with African Americans or black people in this country,
but you can sit up and you can cheer for
the US men's basketball team or a myriad of other
African American athletes, and you can pull for them for
goal or to win. How Come you can't pull for
(48:20):
them to live? How Come you can't pull for them
as human beings? And so I like sports because of that.
I like very much so having you know, games and
(48:45):
watching games, whether it be football, basketball, baseball, whatever that is,
and you look into the stands and you don't care
that the Jewish guys sitting next to the Muslim guy
sitting next to the Christian guy and they're all high
fiving because their team just hit a home run, scored
a touchdown, hit a game winner. That is what sports does.
(49:06):
It's supposed to galvanize you, and I pray that coming
off it was a great Olympics. Paris was amazing. This
was great. Coming off this level of excellence for our country.
People can remember we're all Americans, We're all in this together.
(49:30):
At the Olympics, it was us against the world, so
it shouldn't be us against us now.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
Like that.
Speaker 4 (49:41):
That's the message and the patriotism that I hope people
took from watching the Olympics. And that's why winning matters.
That's why the medal count matters, because everybody wants to
feel like a winner. And if the US win, they
get the most goals of the most medals. That means
(50:03):
we all win in a lifetime of losing for most people.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
HM, I can't argue with any of that.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
That's very very well said, and that's taking it to
a very very important place. There are times and again
I feel all of that because you're talking about the
experience of sitting down and watching any individual act or
even if it's a group of people. If it's a
(50:36):
team like Team USA hoops or soccer or whatever, you
can sit down and watch and sort of feel that.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
There are moments when I.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Look at this and compare it to certain teams that
we've seen come together in the more traditional sports. I'll
use this as an example just because it's the first
one that comes to mind. But what I heard, because
you're right, winning matters, and it should never be taken
for granted and it should never be assumed.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
But we do this sometimes.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
When the Kevin Durant era with the Golden State Warriors happened,
when they won those championships, I repeatedly heard people say, well,
of course they won, They've got all the good players.
It would have been ridiculous if they didn't win, and
(51:31):
it was rather unfair.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
I don't like the way this came together.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
And it robs quite frankly, it robs people of their achievement.
So you know, I don't want to do that by
any stretch, But there are moments when I look at
the way that I hear people talk about tournaments or
events such as this one, and there's a little bit
(51:59):
of chess in in spots where it just kind of.
It makes me jockle, that's all. It makes me jackle.
And that comes from a place that I think is
actually overlapped with where you're coming from, which is what
I want the Olympics to do for every American is
(52:19):
produce gratitude.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
That's what that's my goal with the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
That's when I look at what's happening out there, instead
of you know, we're going to dance on some other nation,
or we're going to worry about what color a person
is as they're achieving something like, use this to realize
what we have, because what we have is pretty amazing.
Speaker 4 (52:49):
It is amazing. And the one thing you have to
know is if the amount of hate in the world,
not just this country, in the world is at a
toxic level, I'm talking about an extinction level. So if
(53:12):
we keep on this path, the path will end. And
so when you see these athletes and they're on the
podium and they're representing their countries, there's every race, nationality, color,
(53:33):
ethnic background, religious background, every single thing is represented. We
just happen to have a nation where we have more
representation in all of those facets that I just talked
about than a lot of nations. And so when you see,
(54:02):
you know, someone on the podium representing the United States
and their Muslim, are their you know, black, white, Hispanic, Asian,
any of these things representing the country. If your heart
(54:23):
is full of hate at home watching the podium and
the awards, it softens. You know why, it softens because
you can see past the hate and relish and the
pride of being an American. You can see past you're
dislike for the visual aspect of whoever is winning, and
(54:48):
you can tap into your patriotism. I think it's important
to be able to do, even if it's for a
second that hatred subsides and you can only see the
country and the pride you have in that country. And
(55:10):
I think that is a powerful thing to have, even
if it's for a split second. However long that that
ceremony is, you forget about the hate and you just
(55:30):
live and relish in the accomplishment and the pride. And
if we can do that on a daily basis, goodness gracious,
we can extend that path to right. You get what
I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
I get exactly what you're saying. And it's all very and.
Speaker 4 (55:47):
I didn't mean to be preaching and preaching, you know,
but it's.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
A message well received. And look, you know it's the
time is now because here we are this you.
Speaker 4 (55:57):
Know what's about to happen? Right, all of this greatness
in America and in pride and being together. Elections is
coming up in two months. Is it about to be? Hate? Hate?
Speaker 1 (56:05):
Hate?
Speaker 3 (56:06):
Hate?
Speaker 2 (56:07):
All all you can do is leave the Olympics and
just open up your laptop.
Speaker 3 (56:10):
That's it. Hate. Yes, it's bad. Get yourself a big
ladle full of hate. It's right there for you.
Speaker 4 (56:17):
And that's the part I hate.
Speaker 3 (56:19):
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
I'm with you, hey, our thanks to Rapid Radios, the
official communication device of Fox Sports Radio. Rapid Radios are

(56:40):
as well. Go to rapid radios dot com now for
sixty percent off and free shipping. Add Code Radio and
get an extra five percent off. That's e from Salama
Mark Willard And by the way, we we laughed earlier
about Jerry Jones' comments about Ceedee Lamb. Well, there are
more comment that we need to get to, so we'll
(57:02):
do that coming up next on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
we're live intheti RAG dot Com Studios and alongside e
from Salam, I'm Mark Willard. Want to see a moonwalk?
This is pretty good. So Jerry Jones the other day
(57:23):
essentially says there's no urgency to UH to get a
contract done with Ceedee Lamb, and Ceedee Lamb quote tweets
the quote and just writes lol, which clearly forced an
emergency meeting.
Speaker 3 (57:48):
You can tell.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
You could tell that the boardroom got the lights turned
on and everybody got together.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Oh hey, wait, wait.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
A minute, now, what are we saying in a public space,
because listen, listen to this now. Now he comes out
and says, quote, Now, I understand completely the anngst that's
happening when you're anxious about and someone says anything about
whether you're missed or not, Well, CD, you're missed. And
(58:22):
he goes on about his original comment. I don't know
why I said it. I don't know. I don't have
a sense of urgency about getting it done. Put any
reason you want. I was at no boo two days ago.
Give that as the reason whatever you want to put
out there. And Jones, oh, let me look that up.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
Eighty what eighty six old?
Speaker 2 (58:54):
Yeah, eighty five, he's getting up there, eighty one eighty one.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
So as sharp as he may be or seemed to be,
or think he is, there is some slippage there, right.
So when you get older. You know, my father was
eighty two years old before he passed. Yeah, And so
(59:26):
there would be less of a filter in our conversations,
and so it was, you know, things would come out
and E'd be like, oh, oh, you know, I didn't
you know, I didn't mean that one like that the
way I you know it sounded, didn't, you know? Because look,
(59:50):
age does it to us all. Age does it to
us all. And so it's a situation where you sometimes
can't stop yourself from saying what you feel. And Jerry
Jones has had that problem even in his younger days.
(01:00:13):
So the older you get, the less capacity you have
for stopping that case. In point years ago, when Dak
Prescott took over and Tony Woman hurt his back and
then he was healthy again, Jerry Jones said, what Tony wrong?
Was O starter? Stephen Jones said, no, he's not. Do
(01:00:43):
you get what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
I get exactly what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
No, he's not.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
No, he's not, he's not that he's not well.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
And so this is old situations where it's like they
had a meeting and they informed him, Hey man, that's
not it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Yeah, but then he went out and did some more
that's not it. Like, I don't even know what the
next one meant. I don't know why I said it.
I don't have a sense of urgency. Put any reason
you want.
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
I was at.
Speaker 4 (01:01:17):
Nobus just incoherent.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
I don't want to be inappropriate, but I was looking
You just asked me to look up his birthday. I
just looked up his birthday and something popped into my head.
And it's because there's a personal tie to it. All
born within four weeks of one another. Jerry Jones, Joe Biden,
(01:01:43):
and my dad. There you go, Win's birthday November three. Yeah,
he'll be eighty two. Wait are you asking? Are you
asking about Jerry or my dad? They're all Jerry Jerry's
is it? Walk down the stairs? What are we talking about? Yeah,
(01:02:05):
my mom and dad listens to the show sometimes so Dad,
I'm not I'm not saying that you're like throwing out
no boo when it doesn't make any sense. And I
know you don't like sushi anyway, But you got My
dad is awesome and I love him and I have
tons like great conversations with him and they sound great.
(01:02:26):
I wouldn't put him in front of a microphone in
front of millions of people and with with really you
know what I mean, with like controversial or emotional stuff
on the line.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
I don't think that that would be the best, like
probably not the best situation for him.
Speaker 4 (01:02:43):
No, of course, no, no, no, no, you got right
talking about what is going all out and that's what
the meeting probably was.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Hey man, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Yeah, maybe that's what maybe CD Limb really did mean.
Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Lol, Like everyone took it to me and he was offended.
Maybe he was just like, oh man, Jerry, yeah, what
whatever the hell he's talking about? Anyway? You know, you
know who I.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Really do love giving microphones to in a public space.
Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
Me No, uh left me now, Steve, Steve.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
I give him a microphone and a bunch of people listening,
and it's like magic.
Speaker 6 (01:03:34):
Well, hello, gentlemen, by Steve Back this hour, and we
have NFL to discuss briefly because next Sunday nights on
Fox TV there's a preseason game San Francisco hosting New Orleans.
The two teams will not hold joint practices this week
because the forty nine ers are low on players. How
that happens at this point in the preseason is beyond
(01:03:55):
me when you have guys in duplicate numbers out on
the field and seemingly one hundred people running out of
the tunnel. But okay, no joint practices and they'll play
quote for real on the field in Santa Clara on
Sunday night on Fox. We did have two exhibitions today
in La. It was all field goals until a Stetson
Bennett touchdown pass for the Rams in the final seconds
(01:04:17):
beat Dallas thirteen to twelve. Denver won at Indy thirty
four to thirty. Rookie quarterback Bo Nixon five drives led
the Broncos to four scores. He went fifteen of twenty
one passing one hundred and twenty five yards and one TD.
NASCAR's over at Richmond, Austin Dillis tilling with a late
bump gets credit for the win. The Cup Series was
off for the last two weekends. In Major League Baseball
(01:04:40):
at Seattle, top of the eighth, the Mariners lead the
Mets twelve to one. The Dodgers in ten innings edge
Pittsburgh six to five, Yankees eight to seven over Texas.
Marcus Stroman the win. Tampa Bay beat Baltimore encloser Craig
Kimbrel two to one. Arizona defeated Philadelphia again, twelve to five.
Arizona has won twenty one of its last twenty seven games.
(01:05:00):
US women's basketball took the Olympic final against France in
Paris sixty seven sixty six. The Americans trailed by ten
points in the third quarter. Asia Wilson, the tournament MVP,
finished with twenty one points, thirteen rebounds, four blocks. It
is their eighth straight gold medal. You have to say
(01:05:21):
this out loud and just kind of pause. In Olympic play,
They've won sixty one games in a row. What is
going on here? In fact, the US women in hoops
since the nineteen eighty four Olympics seventy five and one.
US women's volleyball was swept by Italy and today's final
US men's water polo won its bronze medal match in
a shootout cyclist Jennifer Valentia. The US took gold in
(01:05:44):
the women's omnium. The closing ceremony was today. The next
Summer Olympics will be in Los Angeles twenty twenty eight,
and by the way, the new Clippers Arena opens this week.
It is across the street from the La Rams Football
Stadium and at the Olympics in LA in four years,
the Clippers Arena will be hosting Olympic basketball and the
(01:06:05):
La Rams Stadium will be hosting Olympic swimming.
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
They're going to be.
Speaker 6 (01:06:10):
Doing what the Colts did for the Olympic trials to
pick the team this year, where the Indie indoor facility
for football put a big black curtain down the fifty
yard line and used half of the stadium for a
very large crowd for swimming, building a false floor, creating
a pool, filling up the pool, and then seating everybody
(01:06:31):
in the football seats around it. Though it's gonna be something.
In fact, the LA Olympic Committee says this is going
to be the first Olympics ever where there's literally no
new permanent construction. They have all the facilities ready and
then something like this a temporary thing will be put
in the permanent RAMS facility. As for the other Olympic news,
(01:06:54):
we had mentioned last hour that the comeback for US
men's basketball against Serbia on Thursday second half of that
drew thirteen and a half million TV viewers. In the
last five years of the NBA Finals, largest viewership is
twelve and a half million for a series. That was
when Golden State beat Boston in twenty twenty two. The
clincher of that series got fourteen million viewers. Yesterday was
(01:07:17):
nineteen and a half million viewers for the USA men
beating France in the final. In other words, it's the
largest basketball TV audience in this country in five years
pre COVID, you'd have to go to a March Madness
National Championship that went overtime when Virginia beat Texas Tech.
It's the largest audience for a gold medal final since
(01:07:39):
Atlanta hosted the Olympics in nineteen ninety six. This is
even a larger audience than the women's final this year,
where South Carolina played Iowa and it was on two channels.
That was just under nineteen million yesterday Olympic basketball nineteen
and a half million, and I wasn't going to discuss
the Olympic medal count. But in honor of Mark Willard,
(01:07:59):
yes did have the most total medals. China was second. Yeah,
US and China tied with forty gold medals. Let me
put this in perspective. You have over two hundred countries
competing at a summer Olympics, such as we had in
France this summer, all but ten finished with less than
twenty seven medals total. For the two weeks, the US
(01:08:22):
had one hundred twenty seven medals total. Actually, technically it's
won twenty six now because the Americans lost a bronze
medal today when the IOC took back the gymnastics broude
that Jordan Childs got in the floor final. They gave
it to the Romanian who originally shot thought she finished third.
US Olympic officials are appealing, but the last time the
(01:08:44):
US did not have the most gold medals. Again, they
tied for most gold with China this year, but remember
China had hosted an Olympics and in Beijing two thousand
and eight, they easily had more gold than the Americans.
But if you're going most overall medals, it's eight straights
sum games. Now that the Americans had finished first on
the list. When was the last time they did not
(01:09:05):
top the medal count? It was when the Soviets were
still competing. All these republics were together as one unified
team in nineteen ninety two, And that, by the way,
is the last time US women's basketball lost a game
in the Olympics.
Speaker 4 (01:09:19):
I wonder why. I wonder why they broke that up
to the Soviets. Anybody know nineteen ninety two? Anybody know
why that they're republics now? Anybody know why they're not
just under this the.
Speaker 6 (01:09:32):
Soviet freedom, independence, anything.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
A few reasons.
Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
I can just remember that. You remember when like nineteen
eighty eight, Yes, our basketball team lost to the Soviets.
Some of those great players were actually Lithuanian, but the
Soviet Union owned all of those countries. Yes, when they
broke apart and became independent, and Lithuania had its own
basketball team and got to play in a European tournament
against the Russians, I remember the exact quote. But they
(01:10:01):
killed the Russians and beat him by like forty five points.
And one of the players for Lithuania said afterwards, I
hope it was actually forty six points one for every
year of oppression, like something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:10:13):
Shut Hey, hey, h we're down.
Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
Thanks Steve, happy to help us.
Speaker 3 (01:10:21):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
We expect in one hour to for you to make
up something about live golf and money.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
And we look forward to that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
We got side.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
I bet you do. You always do, Steve de Sega.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
Everybody all right, tie Rack dot Com Studios, Mark Willardy
from Salaam. Look, we can continue this a little bit
more next. We just got a couple of minutes here.
But you know, we were talking about the Ceedee Lamb thing.
Let me ask the question to you this way real
quick and then we can talk some more about it.
So Ceedee Lamb is not he's not a camp and
(01:10:56):
Jamar Chase is not a camp. And Brandon Ayuk is
not at camp. And apparently if you look at Twitter
only Brandon Ayuk is not at camp.
Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
Have you noticed this?
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Yeah, And I know I get it, I get it
right that the trade rumors and it's a little bit
more contentious. And Brandon has been like you know, skipping
through the halls with Jadeen Daniels.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
For the last two months.
Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
I understand all the stuff that's taking place, believe me,
But does that strike you at all that Brandon Ayuk
right now is an international incident and two receivers most
people think are better are also not in camp.
Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
One of them is loling his owner on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
And I don't think you could combine the stories around
those two and get half as much as we've seen
about Brandon Ayuk. What's that about.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Which receivers on the better team?
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Well, I mean the Cowboys and Bengals are not slouches
in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
Yeah, but who's the favorite to go to the Super Bowl?
And when it all matters about like what is the
ram because the reason we talk about it because then
the next thing you say, okay, well what if they
don't sign him, what if he doesn't show up? What
are the ramifications?
Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
No one expects Dallas to be representing the NFC in
the in the Super Bowl, No one, except for delusion
of Dallas Cowboy fans. Well, but that doesn't stop them
any year. Every year is the Super Bowl year. So
you throw that out the Bengals, right, Who thinks the
Bengals are going to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:12:57):
What are the San Francisco forty nine ers?
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
My friend, they're the number two favorite?
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
All right? Who's the number one? The Chiefs, which is
in the what.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
AFC?
Speaker 4 (01:13:10):
The Niners are in the what? So who would be
the first favorite out of the NFC to represent?
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Well? Of course, so well. But but there's more to
it than that.
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
But what I'm telling you is you're asking me why.
This is why we're talking about it, because people would
ask the question, Okay, this team is the odds on
favorite to be in the Super Bowl. Again, what if
he holds out and doesn't play? How does that affect him?
(01:13:44):
Which opens up different you know, compartments of conversation and thought.
That's why we're talking about that. Nobody cares about what's
going on in Dallas and we The only thing we
cared about in Cincinnati is is Joe Burrow gonna be healthy?
Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
Okay? I feel you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
However, I do see certain parts of that a little
bit different. Remember I said we're going to talk about receivers,
but we had to wait.
Speaker 4 (01:14:10):
Yes, well we could talk.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
Let's talk about some receivers. Let's talk about it. Okay,
coming up next, Mark Ward Ephrom Salam. This is Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Okay, it's live in the tire Rack dot Com Studios
on a Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Glad you're with us, Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
For spending some time with us. It's Mark Willard and
Ephraim Salaam. Glad you're with us tonight. Just talking about
all this receiver drama. I mean, look, he from I
know this is not something you part take in. But
today's August eleventh, And in fact, remember earlier today I
told you I was out on a boat with kids
(01:14:49):
and my girl and her kids, and we're all out
there boating around in Lake Tahoe. And I got a text.
I got a text from my sister. My sister's on
her own family vacation in Boston. You want to know
what she said to me. She texted me and said, Hi,
I hope Tahoe is fun. We're in Boston and discussing fantasy.
(01:15:16):
Can we pick a date please for the family draft?
And then she asked something that should be offensive to
you and I both. She said, does Sunday night, August
twenty fifth work?
Speaker 3 (01:15:32):
What I was like, my gosh, come on, this woman
is my sister. I mean, I don't need to.
Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
Am I available on Sunday night, August twenty fifty from?
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
No, why am I not available?
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
Because you'll be with America?
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
Thank you. You could do a fantasy draft, I tell
you what. You could also just tune in and learn
about who you should pick. No, I'm not available. I
have work to do on Sunday night, August twenty fifth.
Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
Thank you. Maybe we'll do it at eight o'clock. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
But my point in bringing that up is, while you
say nobody cares about Ceedee Lamb and Jamar Chase, why
I know.
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
Some people who care.
Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
If your fantasy draft is coming up in two or
three weeks right now, if you've got Brandon Ayyuk as
a keeper, you're sitting there going, I don't know what
the hell I'm gonna do.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Do I want this guy? Is he a Steeler this year?
A Niner?
Speaker 2 (01:16:35):
Is he sitting out? We don't know what's going on,
Ceedee Lamb and Jamar Chase. CD's going as one of
the top three or four picks in the entire draft.
Nobody's blinking. And I guess that's my question. Why why
does the Brandon thing? I get where you're coming from
I think you have one of the points. One of
(01:16:57):
the points is that the forty nine ers are they're
kind of a show right now. They're a big deal,
and so that's a big part of it. But I
would argue that that C D and Jamar would be
a big deal too, if anybody actually believed that whatever's
going on is going to leak into the season. But
(01:17:18):
nobody believes that with those two, and everybody believes it
with Brandon.
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
I.
Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
I get your point, and it's it's it. You make
a good point there in terms of the fantasy football
connection and so on and so forth. I don't think
Brandon I is going to miss any game this season.
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Neither do I.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
I don't think CD Lamb will, and I don't think
Jamar Chase will. And there could be a myriad of
reasons why they don't, namely, the previous two get contracts,
the last two get contracts. I don't think Brandon Nyuka
(01:18:10):
is going to get the contract he wants to be
a forty nine er, But what I would say to
him is, Okay, is it about putting up good numbers
and winning or is it about getting as much money
you can in this window? Right? Now, because you can
(01:18:34):
make twenty one million dollars a year, stay at the
San Francisco forty nine Ers and continue to find yourself
in meaningful playoff games, possible to super Bowl, or you
can go to the Steelers and make twenty eight million
dollars a year and be done the first week of January.
(01:19:00):
Ask Davante Adams what it feels like to be on
the top of the world and then irrelevant in a year.
So you have to weigh out the money thing. Is
(01:19:20):
the money thing right for seven more million dollars a year,
I'm willing to just go out there and play with
no extra you know, no postseason, no any of that.
If that's the case, then by all means hold out
and stay and and and do that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
Well, I mean, by the way, way you're putting out
a number that I mean, the reported number is the
Niners are offering twenty six.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Okay, Now, if you don't want to take twenty six
to stay with a championship team, you get what you get.
You get what you get whoever's in your ear, whoever's
talking to you and giving you, Hey, manny.
Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
I mean you know you know you're not given the
normal players perspective right.
Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
Now, I know that. Well, it's bigger than that. The
grasses and greener brother asked Avante, did you watch did
you watch receivers?
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
I watched at all. I watched it all.
Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
If that's not a tall tail cautionary sign, then I
don't know what is.
Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
Well, I'll tell you what this fascinating.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Let's get into this a little bit more, because you
don't hear most players say what you just said, and
the receiver doc did lead to some things.
Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
More on that coming up next. It's not he said,
she said, it's he said. They said, which side do
you choose?
Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
A from a few minutes ago, sort of putting out
something that I don't hear from a lot of NFL
player types.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
So more to discuss.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
We're broadcasting live from the tire rack dot com studios.
Tyrack dot com will help you get there, and I'm
that selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection and
over ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
The way tired by should be.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
If you're out and about wherever you are in the nation,
and maybe you don't know exactly how this has all
come to pass, here is as short of a version
as I can sort of share with you, Brandon Aiyuk
is heading into a fifty year option for fourteen point
one million dollars. He wants an extension. His play suggests
that he deserves an extension. The forty nine ers and
(01:21:23):
all teams, good teams like to take care of their
homegrown players who play very well. That's a normal thing,
and you certainly don't want to be dealing with this
kind of discord, trade rumors and whatnot.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
In August.
Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
There is a game four weeks from today, so that's
sort of the basics of where Brandon stands. Brandon, I
think liked the twenty six million dollar per year offer
early in the offseason, but then the price went up
because a lot of wide receiver deals started coming in.
(01:21:58):
I'm on Ross, Saint Brown and Waddle, Justin Jefferson, etc.
So the price went up. The Niners said, no, the
price stays the same. Brandon has found other teams that
are willing to give him more. However, he's not a
free agent. The reports suggest the Niners stay at twenty six.
Brandon wants at least twenty eight. What you just said
(01:22:21):
was interesting, Ephraim, because when those numbers go public. Most
NFL fans, I think, will say, well, come on, Niners,
is two million bucks, what's the big deal, which I
think is short sighted and not understanding how it all
really works.
Speaker 3 (01:22:39):
But I also understand it. Now.
Speaker 2 (01:22:42):
Your point about Brandon well taken as well, which is
to say, Brandon, it's two million bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
And you're in a really, really good situation.
Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
The only thing I know, Ephraim both sides have miscalculated here,
and both sides are really really gonna regret it if
they break out.
Speaker 4 (01:23:05):
I agree. I agree with that. We always hear, I mean,
team friendly deals are if you want to keep a
team together, or if you want to do this and
do that and be successful, then you should be on
(01:23:27):
a team friendly deal, take up a little less money.
But we only hear that about quarterbacks. We don't hear
that about any other position. Nobody is planting their flag
or giving their hot take on any other position taking
less money. Tom Brady historically took less than market value.
(01:23:51):
Tom Brady is in the historically is in the history
books for the most Super Bowls, So why wouldn't In
terms of the situation Brandon Nyuk is in. Where could
he go to maximize his exposure, his ability and his
(01:24:15):
value outside of San Francisco, ar Kansas City. Where could
he go Nowhere?
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
That's my answer.
Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
That's exactly right. And so as a player, if you're
worried about the two million extra per year that you
can make, then you're not looking at the big picture.
You have the ability to make that off the field.
(01:24:53):
What the success your team is having on the field.
Like you, if you got your you're if you got
your machine running on all cylinders, that same machine isn't
going to produce in Carolina, in Pittsburgh, in Jacksonville, in Cleveland. Right,
(01:25:22):
It's it's not going to turn out that same dividend.
You're on a team that all the eyes are on,
the expectations are through the roof. One of the best
coaching staffs in the league, one of the best young
quarterbacks in the league, the best running back in the league,
(01:25:46):
the best tight end in the league. What are we
talking about? So if you can only see the two
million and the slight oh y'all playing me, then go ahead, man,
uh going to Green Bay, going to Cleveland, going to
(01:26:07):
do all of that. If you can ask Davante Adams
if he could rewind time now his situation was a
little bit different because he got an opportunity. What he
thought he was going to do was play with his
college quarterback. Well that didn't that didn't happen, right that
that dream and fantasy is over, and now he finds
(01:26:28):
himself in a hellish nightmare. His own words, that's what
it looks like. I got to get out of here
before they killed me life. I love my life, his
own words.
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:26:40):
So got all the money in the world, got a
nice house, got the elevators and all the stuff you want.
The dinosaur party dying slowly inside every day.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
Yep. Career wise, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:26:53):
So I ask you that two million dollars you feel
disrespected about a year? Is it worth it? Is it
worth everything that comes with being in a place where
no one cares?
Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
Of course not, of course not and questions at quarterback
and all that?
Speaker 3 (01:27:15):
And is it disingenuous? By the way, I think it is.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
If you're Brandon and you go this is where he
sort of both sides I think have made just crazy mistakes.
Brandon's for me is follow the timeline. You sit down
with the Niners and you say I want this much money,
and the Niners say no, we want to give you
this much money, and you don't agree, and you fight,
(01:27:39):
and so then you finally say, fine, then trade me.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
And then the forty nine ers say.
Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
Okay, we found a trade, and Brandon goes, well, no, no, no, no, no, no,
not there.
Speaker 3 (01:27:53):
That's when you lose me.
Speaker 2 (01:27:56):
Because what I've never understood about this from the beginning
is why anybody is even acknowledging Brandon's trade request.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
I don't even understand it, certainly not in August.
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
That tells me that the forty nine ers miscalculated, miscommunicated,
whatever you want to say, because there's no way that
a good team wants to trade one of its good
players in August.
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
That's not how you operate. So either they are just
fed up with.
Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
Brandon Ayuk or something blew up in their face as
if to say, we think you're worth twenty six, and
he says I'm worth more, and they went, fine, go
talk to all the other teams.
Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
You'll see you're worth twenty six. And then there were
a bunch of.
Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
Stupid teams that were like thirty two, and he came
back and went see and then they went, fine, we'll
send you to one.
Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
And he went no, I don't want to go.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Do you see how both of these sides have it's
both of them have been inept.
Speaker 4 (01:29:14):
Way that both of.
Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
Them have been totally inept in their process. And anyone
still believing that Brandon his latest quoted social media threat,
no way in hell I'm playing on my fifty year option, well,
then the Niners would have every power to be like, cool,
go ahead and ruin your career.
Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
Then what do you think happens?
Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
If you get to week one, there's no trade, there's
no taker, there's no.
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Contract, and Brandon goes I'm sitting.
Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
Oh god, I can tell you what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:29:50):
You're gonna lose almost a million bucks a game number
one and number two. All those teams that want you
now I'm not gonna want you next year.
Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
They're gonna be like, that's the dude that doesn't play.
Speaker 4 (01:30:01):
What happens is and what he's not realizing, And maybe
he is, Maybe he's you know, I'm standing on business
because they like to say, I'm gonna ask you a
question and this will tell you everything you need to know.
(01:30:22):
If Brandon Nyuk doesn't play, are the forty nine ers
still a Super Bowl contender?
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
Are the forty nine of course.
Speaker 4 (01:30:37):
Okay, now I'm gonna ask you this, who needs who more?
Brandon Nyuk needs the forty nine ers or the forty
nine ers need Well you did? You basically answered that because.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
I would argue that Brandon needs the forty nine ers
more than that more him. But but I would argue
that both both are obviously much better with one another.
Speaker 4 (01:30:59):
Of course, yes, but yes, I can bet you that
the forty nine ers will still have ultimate success without
Brandon Ayuk. Brandon Ayuk won't because he will be hemorrhaging money.
Every week he misses money he may never recoup. Right
that fourteen million dollars is going a million dollars a game,
(01:31:25):
so you can end up owing money. It's seventeen games,
you're only making fourteen million. You do the math. So
not only do you put yourself in a hole, you
have now set out a year of football. Teams have
(01:31:47):
done whatever they've done. Younger players have developed that once
berniinge need is now not so much a burning need.
Got a lot of young rookie receivers in the league
this year's second year guys looking to make jumps, So
the market is going to get even more diluted and clouded. Oh,
by the way, receivers coming into the draft next year,
(01:32:09):
like it's not going to transpire the way you think
it's going to. You're going to find yourself in a
situation where you look at your reps or whoever's advising
you and be like, well, why didn't you tell me
this what happened? So if they're not going to tell him,
(01:32:29):
I'm gonna tell him, Brandon, go to camp, get your money.
You're going to get paid. Don't give money back. Don't
give money back. Ask Le'Veon bell if he would have
done something different. You want to talk about a tremendous
(01:32:51):
career that hit a brick wall yep, and could not
push through. This is what happens when one thinks more
of themselves than everybody else on the planet.
Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
Well, I just what I think gets underrated.
Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
It is such a good point you just made, because
what I think gets underrated is good situations. And what
happens is we have to decide who's driving who in
the good situation?
Speaker 3 (01:33:17):
Right, Rock Pardy, Oh, well, Brock Perdy.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
That's because of Shanahan, and then that's because of Christian
McCaffery and because it's because it's Trent Williams, because it's
Deebo Samuel, because of Brandon Nyuk. And then we're starting
to do it now it's Brandon Ayuk. Was that's because
of forty nine ers. No, forty nine ers, because of
Brandon Nyuk. We did this with Brady and Belichick. Well
it's Brady, Well he's got Belichick. Then Brady went off
(01:33:42):
to the Buccaneers won a super Bowl, kind of ended
that argument, and the Patriots are now totally in the duldrums.
My point is not to say that there is a
right or wrong answer with those arguments.
Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
Ever.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
My point is just stick with your good situation when
you have it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
Man, they hard to come I don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Who's driving the bus. They are hard to come by. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
If your Brock, yes, I want to be a forty
nine er, And if you're Kyle, yeah, how about we
keep all the good players?
Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
That good idea seems to be working. But boy, ego
just takes the bleepover, doesn't it?
Speaker 4 (01:34:21):
In life? In life, in life, literally seriously.
Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
Yeah, I want to ask you this. If you haven't
named your starting quarterback yet on August eleventh, it means blank,
fill in that blank. As the nation is struggling with

Speaker 2 (01:35:54):
Just search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get your podcast

in about thirty six minutes from right now. So the
word is is that it'll be after that second preseason
game that Antonio Pierce, the head coach of the Las
(01:36:18):
Vegas Raiders, is going to announce big announcement. There'll be
a press conference, they'll be a podium, they'll be a microphone,
and he will announce if if Aid and O'Connell or
Gardner Minshew goes toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes and
Justin Herbert in the AFC West this year. And I
(01:36:40):
just of all the mysteries of the offseason, the head
scratchers that we've talked about tonight, Dallas Cowboys didn't do anything,
don't seem to be aware that there's a game coming.
Forty nine ers having trade conversations about one of their
best players four weeks before the season starts. Weird stuff
(01:37:01):
going on. Add this one, Why the hell did the
Raiders not do more at the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
Position in the off season.
Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
Now that's a head cratcher.
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
I like, maybe the move just wasn't there. I understand that,
but like I apologies to these guys, Like, if you're
announcing one of these guys as the starter next week, yawn.
Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
So I would harken back to as deep as this
quarterbacks draft was, which was pretty deep. You would have
had to be able to and maybe they did, and
maybe there were no takers. See though, that's this type
of stuff. We won't ever know.
Speaker 3 (01:37:50):
Sure, sure, sure, sure, that's fair.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
That they were trying to move up and get a
guy that can. So I can't say, oh, they're not
doing anything. Are they there standing pat on their decision
to do Now, If that is the case, I'll address both.
If that's the case, then they've grossly miss read the
(01:38:12):
situation in terms of the talent pool, the division they're in,
and their ability to possibly make the playoffs without a
signal caller. Now, if they tried and there were no takers,
then they just find themselves in a situation where, Okay,
we gotta piece this thing together, hope for the best,
(01:38:36):
because we have a plan moving forward right now. Hopefully
it's the latter, because if it's the former, then you
guys have completely dropped the ball, completely dropped the ball
if you don't have a quarterback and you're waiting to
(01:38:56):
decide between Gardner Minshew and who is it? Katan O'Connell,
who is it?
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
Yeah, O'Connell, Who ain't o'conna who?
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
You know you don't have a quarterback? Yeah, he don't
have the second year correct, And I know Antonio Piers
got him going and they won games down the stretch.
But in the grand scheme of things, not having any
quarterback in the division, there's ripe with quarterbacks. I don't
(01:39:31):
see how just grit huh, just grit alone is not
going to propel you to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:39:42):
Well, you mentioned the guy a couple of times here
just about twenty minutes ago. How do you think Devanta
Adams is feeling. Oh my god, now he hadn't said
a word.
Speaker 4 (01:39:52):
He should be sitting out of camp.
Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
Well, it was fascinating to watch that receiver doc because
it really kind of it's summarized all the things that
DeVante was willing to say in front of a microphone
last year, you know, being miked up on the field.
We ended up hearing some things that we didn't know
which and you could see the frustration he was feeling
(01:40:15):
with Jimmy Garoppolo. And it was with a Netflix only
interview where when they asked him about Aiden O'Connell at
one point, they go, were you okay with that move?
Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
And he goes, I green lit that move. I was like, uh,
uh okay, So.
Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
You know, maybe he's got some good feeling around Aidan O'Connell.
I don't know, Gardner Minshew's not a horrible quarterback, But
with everything that that guy was willing to say three
games into the season talking about I have no time
to wait around, my clock is ticking. I am fiercely
(01:40:55):
about winning. And you sit there with the thirteenth pick
in the draft, five quarterbacks from going the top twelve
and you're picking thirteenth. Now, maybe that, like you said,
maybe that was bad luck. Maybe they didn't think that
the Broncos were going to take bo Nicks. Maybe they
(01:41:17):
tried to move up a pick and a division mate
would not even think about doing it. Did you call
the Jets and try to jump Denver? I thought Pennix
would have looked great in Vegas. Maybe they were like
the rest of us, didn't think there was any way
that Atlanta would do that, Like maybe that's what that
might be what happened, But there was no pivot.
Speaker 3 (01:41:42):
There was no pivot.
Speaker 4 (01:41:45):
No, you you know, it's tough because I'm sure they've
had conversations with Devonte Adams and I'm sure extensively they
talked about the quarterbacks room and upcoming expectations and where
they really see themselves at that position moving forward. And
(01:42:07):
it couldn't have been we're gonna make it work. It
couldn't have been I think we got a chance. Like
I'm I'm I'm confused with if everybody else can make moves,
you can't.
Speaker 3 (01:42:28):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:42:28):
I know, you're paying coaches a lot of money that
aren't there correct a lot of money. They getting checks
every month and they have no affiliation to the program anymore.
(01:42:49):
I get it. But that doesn't go against the salary cap.
So I mean, you gotta bundle up something. Then you
gotta do something well out of quarterback in this league.
Then you're just playing games. You're just playing games. Now,
(01:43:11):
maybe you can try to do the Our defense is
better than everybody else. We're going to win games on
the defensive side of the ball. Well, good luck with that.
Speaker 7 (01:43:21):
Good luck, good luck with that, especially since they were
not that great of a defense last year. So yeah,
a football team without a quarterback in August would be
like it'd be like you and me without Steve Disager.
Speaker 3 (01:43:36):
I would argue facts.
Speaker 4 (01:43:38):
Don't you think big facts?
Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
Hi? Steve?
Speaker 6 (01:43:41):
Good evening, gentlemen. Hey Steve, let's continue talking. NFL shall
we as chief wide receiver Hollywood Brown returned to Kansas
City after last night's injury, landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
Brown's quarterback Deshaun Watson will get the majority of the
reps in this week's joint practices with the Vikings, but
he will not play on Saturday's game. Giants quarterback Drew Locke,
with a sore hip, will miss a few practices this week. Steelers'
(01:44:04):
first round tackle Troy Feutana will miss at least next
weekend's game with a spray knee. Jacksonville signed safety to
Sean Gibson, who will start the season with a six
game suspension for a performance enhancer. Next Sunday night on
Fox TV, San Francisco hosts New Orleans. The two teams
will not hold joint practices this week. Because the forty
nine ers are low on players. Preseason Week two will
(01:44:27):
start Thursday with one game. New England hosts Philadelphia. No
games this Friday. Most teams will play this Saturday. There
were two NFL exhibitions today. In la the Rams edge
Dallas thirteen to twelve on a late touchdown pass by
Stetson Bennett, who had thrown four interceptions. The only TV
of the game came with four seconds left. Cowboys quarterback
Trey Lance had six carries forty four yards through the air,
(01:44:50):
twenty five of forty one for just one hundred and
eighty eight yards. Denver one in Indianapolis thirty four to
thirty Rookie quarterback Bo Nicks in five drives led the
Broncos to f four scores. There were thirteen total penalties
in this exhibition and a total of five turnovers. US
women's basketball won the Olympic Final sixty seven sixty six
(01:45:11):
against France in Paris. The Americans trailed by ten points
in the third quarter. It was thirty five to twenty
five at the time, but in about the last five
minutes of the game, the US at the foul line
went thirteen of fourteen. France's last second shot did bank in,
but the shooter's foot was clearly on the three point line,
so France loses by one at home for the US
(01:45:32):
their eighth straight gold medal. The US women have not
lost a game in the Olympics since nineteen ninety two.
Remember this US team lost its sendoff game to a
team of WNBA stars. The WNBA season resumes Thursday after
being off for about a month. NASCAR was off the
last two weekends, but at Richmond tonight, Austin Dillon was
the winner with some late contact. Anson Dornce retired at
(01:45:55):
North Carolina as women's soccer coach forty five seasons, twenty
two national titles. He makes the decision now as their
new season starts this week. He was the Tar Heels
first soccer coach nineteen seventy nine. He coached numerous National
Player of the Year winners, including Cindy Parlow, who's now
president of US Soccer, and the legendary Mia hamm to
(01:46:18):
Major League Baseball tonight at Seattle. A fourth straight win
for the Mariners beat the Mets twelve to one, two
homers for Cal Rawley. The Dodgers scored twice in the
bottom of the tenth to beat Pittsburgh sixty five. The
Pirates have lost seven games in a row. Colorado, with
seven runs in the bottom of the eighth, defeated Atlanta
nine to eight. Arizona beat Philadelphia again, twelve to five.
(01:46:40):
The Orioles fell into a tie for first with the
Yankees in the AL East. Baltimore lost two to one
at Tampa Bay. The loss to closer Craig Kimberrel, who
walked three in the bottom of the eighth in gave
up the go ahead Sackfly Yankees won their game eight
seven over Texas Aaron Judge with his forty second home run,
and it came right after Juan Soto hit his thirtieth
of the year. Houston and Seattle are still tied for
(01:47:02):
first in the ALS. Houston won its game at Boston
ten to two, the Stros of won five straight, and
Cleveland was a five to three winner at Minnesota. Aaron
Rye took Golf's Windham Championship by two strokes with a
final round sixty four. Due to earlier reign, the final
two rounds were played today. This ended the PGA's regular season.
The playoffs start in Memphis this week. The tour Championship
(01:47:24):
is at the end of this month in Atlanta. There's
a golfer named Max Grazerman who led late today but
during the last five holes had a quadruple bogie and
a double bogie and finished second place. The winner of
this event gets one point four million dollars. He in
second place eight hundred and sixty one thousand, a very
(01:47:46):
nice check, but it also means the last five holes
cost him over five hundred thousand dollars. But if you're
interested in checks, Live Golf returns next weekend at the
Air Right the Greenbrier in West Virginia will host Back
to You.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
Oh my gosh, that's going to be that's going to
be very exciting. The ouch is right, I mean, that's
one thing. It's funny too. Maybe like I quadru yes
you can, Yes you can, and uh and I will
quadruple bole tomorrow. But I like, maybe there's some overlap
(01:48:25):
here with the Brandon Ayuk thing that we're talking about.
Sometimes say, oh, we lost a half million dollars, but
he's still made a ton of money.
Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
But at no level of wealth does that not still
hurt a little bit? Right?
Speaker 4 (01:48:38):
It hurts, It hurts, It keeps you up at night.
Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
No, there's Brandon Ayuk. Stop stop telling me to take
two million less.
Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
Hey man, I mean all the glitter isn't gold and
all gold is in reality.
Speaker 2 (01:48:55):
Well, I just can't figure that one out. When I
look at stories in sports and I see things that
happen that sometimes surprise us, or they anger us, or
we say.
Speaker 3 (01:49:09):
Boy, I wouldn't have done it that way.
Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
Usually we can look at it and go But I
see where so and so was coming from.
Speaker 4 (01:49:21):
You know this.
Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
I live in the Bay. We talk about this every day.
I have studied it. I've listened to every word. I've
looked at the numbers, I've read the team's side. I've
talked to Brandon Aiyuk's personal coach, our colleague TJ. Huschman
Zada comes on all the time. I've listened to all sides. Aphraim,
(01:49:45):
this makes no sense. No, it makes no sense for
either side to be flirting with what they're supposedly flirting with.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
No sense.
Speaker 4 (01:49:59):
Gee, oh, that's it. Both sides, three letters, one word,
both sides, right ego, yes, of course, yeah, both sides.
Of course, that's what happens. That's what happens when people
(01:50:20):
around you tell you just how good you are, how
important you are, what you deserve. Sometimes you can't see
the big picture right if you're happy at a place,
(01:50:44):
if you're comfortable, if you're winning, because football is difficult
to do without winning. It sucks. I don't care how
much money you're making. It is not fun. It is
way too hard. It is way too hard, and can't
do it without winning. Oh gosh, I've been on both
(01:51:07):
ends of the spectrum. I've won a lot, and then
I've been where we've lost, and it is miserable. So
if you can find a place that makes you happy,
that you can see winning and you're projected to be winners.
You got a young quarterback who's going to be there
(01:51:28):
for the next ten years possibly, you got a young
head coach who can be there for the next twenty
years possibly, and you want to get out of the situation. Wow,
life makes no sense. It's your ego that big to
(01:51:54):
where you're looking at what other receivers in different situations
than you are in mind, you are getting more, so
you're willing to throw it all away because I don't know,
you feel disrespected, or you feel like you are old something,
(01:52:15):
or look I like Brandon Nyuk. He's a good receiver.
He's not in my top five, no, but he's a
good receiver. I think the forty nine ers could be
just successful without them. Matter of fact, not saying they
have what Kansas City had, but all Patrick Mahomes has
(01:52:38):
done without Tyreek Hill was win two Super Bowls in
an MVP. Yep, So you gotta check it. You're not
Tyreek Hill just f YI.
Speaker 3 (01:52:49):
No, you're not.
Speaker 4 (01:52:50):
You're not that. And if they can continue to win
without him, then why do you think you are that
important to the team to where they won't be able
to win and have success without you? Why are you
(01:53:10):
willing to give up on that? And you can make
money teams can You can go any You can go
to other places. Somebody's gonna pay you, but at what costs?
Speaker 3 (01:53:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
Well, and don't answer this yet because I'd love to
add I'd love to get your.
Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
Response to this. Coming up next is the agent doing
a bad job.
Speaker 2 (01:53:30):
We're live in thee tayraq dot com studios with me
from Salama Mark Willard, Fox Sports Radio. I'm like afraid
to start talking because I feel like this is one
of them tracks that usually.
Speaker 8 (01:53:41):
Sing perpayn'tly want to see you and.
Speaker 4 (01:53:57):
The Purple rain.
Speaker 3 (01:54:00):
Honey, we can love up man, you even want to
sing the talking parts? Look at you?
Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
Look at you? Special tyraq dot Com Studios. Mark Willerdy
from Salab How would you answer that? And can you
tell like we've been talking all about these receivers City Lamb,
Jamar Chase Brandon Ayuk and and you're passionate about the
Ayuk situation. It sounds like you want to give him advice.
(01:54:33):
Is the agent doing a bad job. His agent's name
is Ryan Williams. Yeah, I think is he doing a
bad job or is he not listening to his agent?
I don't know what his agent's selling him.
Speaker 4 (01:54:43):
Yeah, I don't. I can't speak on if his agent
is doing a bad job or not, because, like you said,
I don't know what the conversation he's having with his agent,
what they're talking about. If he's advising him, Hey, look,
this thing is gonna get worked out, and he's just like, no,
I want it worked out now, and I want it
worked out my way. And if that doesn't happen, you
(01:55:04):
know the agents, Most agents have that level of rapport
with their clients. I mean, has his agent gotten him
a deal. Yet, no, he was on a rookie deal.
You're slotted. You get what you get. This is the
(01:55:24):
first big test of just what my agent's gonna do.
And in that the agent may be pushing. You know,
I want to get my client what he wants. If
he this is what he's asking for, then that's what
I'm gonna get him. I see that happening. It happens
(01:55:48):
where on the first real big contract for a client
an agent, Well, I'm gonna get you what you asked for,
opposed to Hey, let's look at it like this, right,
let's look at it like this, because his value won't
be just hear me out. He plays fourteen million dollars,
(01:56:12):
they go to the Super Bowl, they win the Super Bowl,
what do you think his market value will be?
Speaker 2 (01:56:17):
Oh god, I don't even know that. Like, I get
what you're saying. I don't even know if they need
to win the Super Bowl. You get what I'm so
if the offense kicks out another thirteen hundred yards for
Brandon Aiyuk and You've had this whole conversation about leverage,
and I've argued that he does not have nearly as
much he'll.
Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
Have it all. He'll have it all, all of it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
The Niners.
Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
The only leverage the Niners would have would be the
franchise tag.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
And they don't want to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:56:46):
They don't want to do that.
Speaker 3 (01:56:47):
They don't want to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:56:49):
And so it's a situation where it's like, like Dak Prescott, right,
he wants sixty plus million dollars, he's on the last
year of his deal. If they somehow miraculously end up
in the NFC Championship game, he plays well the whole season,
everybody under the sun is who needs a quarterback? And
(01:57:10):
give him whatever he wants. So you're betting on yourself.
How much is Dak making this year?
Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:57:17):
Would you take what is he making? What? Forty million
dollars whatever that number is.
Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
Yep?
Speaker 4 (01:57:25):
Would you take forty million dollars to bet on yourself?
Speaker 3 (01:57:29):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:57:30):
Think about that. That that sounds crazy, right, hey? Would
you take forty million dollars to bet on your abilities?
Would you take fourteen million dollars to bet on your abilities?
Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
Yep?
Speaker 4 (01:57:45):
That As an agent, That's what I would say to him.
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
Well, and here's the additional issue, though, Like you say,
would you take fourteen million and most human beings on
planet Earth would obviously say yes. But that's also sort
of acting like there's another option out there.
Speaker 4 (01:58:05):
If Lamar Jackson can play on his fifth year option
after winning the MVP, yep, you mean to tell me,
Brandon and you can't play on your fifth year option. Well,
as an agent, that's how I would be putting things
in perspective. Oh and by the way, guess what, Lamar
(01:58:25):
got what he wanted. Sure did so as an agent,
I would be doing this opposed to saying you're right,
I got you. We're gonna yeah, we're gonna get it.
We're gonna make it happen. I'd be like, hey man,
this is when the rubber meets road. You've had a
phenomenal four years. Let's cap it off and let's hit
(01:58:45):
the market and get everything we could possibly want, whether
it be here or somewhere else. Sounds like a plan
that's not I would say, well.
Speaker 2 (01:59:01):
