Speaker 2 (03:07):
Oh you'll hear.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Her chiming in every now and then and just being
a part of the conversation. I've spoken at her USC
class every semester and so I've been to your work.
So it was only and we've worked together on NFL projects.
It was about time that you came to mind.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Yeah, so happy to be here. You come and drop
knowledge on the gen z I do.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I do. It's fun.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Okay, let's get started in the NFL obviously, because we
have all the preseason games going on right now and
we are officially nineteen days away from NFL kickoff, nineteen
days away season opener.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Ravens at Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Chiefs are going to raise that banner that solidified their
dynasty because, let's be honest, that third super Bowl solidifies
the dynasty. We've gone into like deep arguments about that
three and you can call yourself that. Mahomies also agreed
on that too, So.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I would think Mahomes would agree on that.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
You well, when it was two, he was like, no,
we need one more before you can call it adynaty Okay,
So now that we're in week two of preseason. We're
starting to see the starters get some playing time, especially
the new young guys. So we're gonna do a little
quarterback check in because we have some quarterback competitions, some injuries,
some question marks. But we're going to start with a
(04:17):
team that I've kind of had my eye on all
off season, the Steelers. Okay, they currently have two starting
quarterbacks right now, right Russell Wilson, Justin Fields. Now, Justin
got the reps last week. Did not look great, did
not do himself any favors. Mike Tomlins said after the game.
I thought he did some nice things, but obviously he
(04:38):
was a component of the CQ center quarterback exchange. From
my perspective, that's a dual responsibility on the center and
the quarterback, and it negated a lot of good things
on those first couple of drives.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
So it was, like I said, backhanded compliment, well because
it kind of was, because like he didn't it wasn't bad.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
It was five of six, sixty seven yards, zero t show,
zero interceptions, He had won thirteen point two passer rating,
but he fumbled a couple of those snaps, sacked twice. Luckily,
didn't lose possession when he was sacked, so it was like, ah,
it wasn't horrible, but.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
It wasn't like he's the future. It wasn't great.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And the reason that Justin got that first preseason start
is because Russell Wilson has been out with a calf injury.
But tonight we're going to see Russ take the field
in about three hours. And the question here is how
big of a statement does Russ need to make tonight?
Speaker 2 (05:31):
And I think he needs to make a really big statement.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
It felt like during camp Fields was kind of closing
the gap on that quarterback competition, and after that Week
one performance, Russ has the opportunity to come in there
tonight and kind of sway it back in his direction
(05:55):
to be the main QB one because you could to remember,
the Steelers don't have loyalty to either of these guys,
not Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. The Broncos are actually
still paying Russell Wilson thirty nine million dollars to play
for the Steelers. The Steelers are only playing him like
a vetment amoum a little over a million dollars?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Right?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
So what we do know Russ has a super Bowl.
Obviously he has the experience, he is a veteran in
this league. But we have not seen that Russell Wilson
in a couple of years, in many years, in many years.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
And I feel like when he went to Denver in
those first couple of games, it was like, Wow, the
Seahawks really fleees the Broncos here. And we haven't seen
the Russell Wilson that we've seen before. So he has
to make a statement and he has to prove that
he's lack for lack of better term, he's still got
it because right now he does not. And the fact
that the Steelers are paying him thirty nine million dollars
to play I'm sorry the Broncos, Yeah, they have thirty
(06:47):
nine million dollars to play for another.
Speaker 7 (06:48):
Team says a lot everything. It's everything.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
So I think this is a huge statement game for
Russell Wilson. This cannot be well, it's just preseason. It
can't be that kind of game. It has to be
a huge statement game. It's also kind of a huge
statement game for the Steelers because they have these two
quarterbacks that people consider two qb ones, this controversy. What
are they going to do if they're both not good,
then what are they going to do?
Speaker 8 (07:12):
You do?
Speaker 2 (07:12):
What do you do?
Speaker 6 (07:13):
What do you do?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I mean, one of them has to pan out, right,
especially with theory like Mike Tomlin, a defensive minded coach
like you kind of just got to be a plug
and play guy. You can't do what Fields did in
the first game. You can't be fumbling passes. You got
to try to avoid the sack. I just the other
thing that comes into play here is that we know
that Russell Wilson doesn't really have that locker room chemistry
(07:37):
with his teammates, right and we hear that from his
past teammates both on Seattle and in Denver, and justin
Fields does his teammates and locker room in Chicago loved him.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
So if it's close, well.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
If it's close to have somebody still towards the beginning
of his career, somebody that the Steelers could in theory
develop and will yeah, and you could make the decision that,
you know what, We're gonna go with Fields because he
could be the future. Russell Wilson is the past, even
though he's only been there for a minute.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
But but he's a Super Bowl what quarterback? But can
be great. He's a veteran. We've seen like we've seen
peak Russell Wilson. Can he get even close? Can he
halfway to that peak? Can he get halfway there this season?
Because it was a disaster in Denver. It was possibly
like career tarnishing performance disaster in Denver. I have a
(08:30):
friend who's a Steelers fan, and he feels like Russ
is gonna come in there and cook and he's gonna
be It's gonna be all. And I'm like, I'm a
Steelers fan, but I think he's like he's sad over
the last several years of the season.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
And I said to him, I think it's really great.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
You think that.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
I think that's a good way to start the season.
I just I just don't know if it's true. But
you know what, we're gonna find out. I don't think
we're gonna know everything tonight. No, we're gonna get an idea.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Again, it's his first preseason game action.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
But if we start, if it's not great and then
the calf injury starts getting blamed, that is the writing.
Speaker 8 (09:05):
On the wall.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Well, this is what we saw with Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I think it was maybe last season Yeah, started with
a calf injury during preseason, and calf injuries are tricky,
they are they're.
Speaker 7 (09:14):
Easily Yeah, they go easily reinjured.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
You think you might be better, and then you do
some sort of a cut and sprint and then it's
like back to ground zero. So this is where when
people were bagging on the Steelers and the Falcons for having.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Two starting quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Why is it a bad thing to have two of
the best, like the most important position on your team,
to be rich in that position. I think it's smart. Yeah,
it's a backup plan. Everybody has. Everybody has life insurance,
everybody has car insurance, everybody at home insurance.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
This is insurance for your franchise.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Well, if you look at the forty nine Ers in
twenty twenty two, Trey Lance goes down in week two
and they have Jimmy Garoppolo who designed a few weeks earlier.
He's having like the best season of his life.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
He goes down.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
In December, Rock Perty comes in. Who's who is now
obviously their franchise quarterback?
Speaker 9 (10:01):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
And then in the NFC Champiship game, Rock Purdy goes
down and then Josh Jaunson goes down with a concussion.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Brock Purtty is to come.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
I mean, you can never have an.
Speaker 7 (10:09):
You can never get point to the story now and.
Speaker 10 (10:12):
You should be grooming them all. But it's probably going
to be a carousel. I think it's going to be
a carousel this season between the two.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Of them, which could be dangerous, because that can be dangerous.
Do I think Fields is starting game one? No, but
I do think it's something to keep an eye on that.
If Russ struggles, Yes, go, I think the locker room's
going to be fighting for it. Fans are going to
be fighting for it. Let's see what Justin Fields do
can do. Okay, let's move to the Vikings. You the
(10:40):
heartbreaking news this week, you guys, they're game starting in
about fifteen minutes. JJ McCarthy out for the season with
a torn meniscus in his right kney, coming off of
Natty at Michigan, which he was their first round pick.
Tenth overall. This is a It's a huge hit in
the sense that there was so much excitement, so much
(11:02):
anticipation that I feel it just kind of takes the
wind out of their out of their sales. Tracy, that's
a Michigan fan. I know you're like, big she's wearing
a JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, for those of you who I have a custom designed.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Sweatch here today. But I know this has to hurt
as a as a mission girl.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Oh it breaks my heart.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
First of all, I have been a diehard, lifelong Minnesota
Vikings fan since April twenty seventh, So it's just heartbreaking
for me. The last few months that I have put
into this team, I like read everything, I have turned
into a fan, and.
Speaker 7 (11:33):
Now I'm like, I guess I'll see you next season.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Yeah, his misera.
Speaker 7 (11:36):
But it's gotta be devastating way and I just got that.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I thought you were like gonna say your birthday.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
I've been a lifelong since in birthday, you know, since
the draft, since the draft second.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Drag let me follow that got it ex one of
the draft. But this is devastating and it is devastating
for the Vikings.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Plus, he was showing a lot of promise and I
think one of this was when they drafted JJ. One
of the reasons the Vikings was great for him was
because he didn't have to start Week one. Yeah, he
didn't have to hand like Kayleb Williams.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
It's like, here's the franchise and good luck, good luck.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Jaj didn't have that, but he was really coming into
his own. The players really liked him, the locker room
liked him. Justine Jefferson seemed to love him. People like
gravitating towards him. And the idea was that maybe no
offense to Sam Darnald, but that maybe he would start
mid season.
Speaker 7 (12:19):
So now he also misses a whole season of learning.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
It's like, yeah, it's huge, it's a big setback, and again,
is Sam Darnald the answer?
Speaker 2 (12:28):
He hasn't been a starter for a few years.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
He was the backup in San Francisco last season, but
this kind of feels like Sam Donald's last dance as
starting spot. This is his fourth team in five years Jets, Panthers,
forty nine Ers, now Vikings, and his best season record
was with the Jets in twenty nineteen, when he went
seven and six, his only season over three thousand passing yards,
nineteen touchdowns, and thirteen interceptions. So like he was a
(12:53):
third overall pick in twenty eighteen, he was supposed to be.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Yeah, you got a usc girl and a Michigan girl
in the house.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yes, he was supposed to be.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
He was supposed to be a big deal and never
really lived up to those expectations. So now's a chance
for him to redeem himself. He has a talent around him.
He just mentioned everybody got Justin Jefferson, one of the
top wide receivers, Jordan Addison, their first pick this year,
Aaron Jones coming over from Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
So, like you have, they.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Have a great defense and that can't be discounted. They're
very important, very really good head coach. This is his
best opportunity. I mean, unless if last year Brock had
gotten hurt and he came in.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
I think that would have been a similar opportunity.
Speaker 9 (13:34):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
But this is his best opportunity to succeed, and I
think unfortunately for Sam Darnald, he was victim of a
bad organization and years and years of that year.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
So the circumstantial things he could not control.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
One hundred percent. But now it's been six years, so
can he come in? Do I think Sam Donald is
going to lead them to a Super Bowl? I do not,
But do I think that he will play well and
they can potentially succeed behind him.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Time will tell. I think it will. I think fine.
I think he has till November fifth, the trade deadline.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yes, I think that that's as much time as Sam
Darnold is going to have to figure it out too.
It's like, what you got to get someone else, you
just bring someone else in. If that's not working, and
you have as much talent as you do, you let
like you decided not to go with Kirk Cousins again,
you were moving on.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
You have JJ McCarthy, your quarterback of the future.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Just coming off of Natty, everything was like things are
looking up, they're going great.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Justin Jefferson just got paid. This is going to be
our year. And then news hits.
Speaker 10 (14:33):
It's like JJ oufers, this is why Atlanta looks good
when they get, you know, a quarterback in the draft.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Just what we were talking about. It's like, it's not
a bad place to be when you have a deep
quarterback room.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
And obviously November fifth is is far away.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
But I think what will become difficult is if there
they are struggling. How much do you give up for
a quarterback when your your future franchise quarterback is waiting.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
So it'll be interesting.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
A lot of things happen between now November fifth, We
will see how am Donald does. But I hope for
Sam Donald he does well because saying I covered him
in San Francisco, I want to see people and he's
a good guy and you do want to see him succeed.
And I wanted to do just well enough that they're
super happy with in this year, but not so well
that next year JJ.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Has to fight for his job.
Speaker 10 (15:17):
Yeah, she would like Tracy would like to still be
a Minnesota Vikings fan.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Well, she wants to be. She wants to see JJ
JJ starting. I mean, like, are we starting the JJ
fan club?
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Oh, it's been it was started a very.
Speaker 10 (15:29):
She's already been recommendations of what to watch during recovery
and she is the driver of the movie recommendations.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
Tracy, you sent him.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
So he didn't send no movie.
Speaker 7 (15:41):
On his Instagram story.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
He asked in his Instagram story he took a question
boss and said, send your favorite movie right drops I
and major League.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Because that's funny.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
He should be laughing, Bull Durham, he should be laughing.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
He asking for baseball movies.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
No, he just asked for movies. He'said, like, what are
everybody's favorite movie? I mean, it wasn't specific to me.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
It's like a question, but what are your favorite I
did Barbie?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Okay, and then I can't remember what my fourth one?
Speaker 10 (16:09):
That is a wide range, but I with Susan Sarandon
and Kevin Costner.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I didn't know what he'd be in the mood for.
Maybe he wanted to laugh, baby, wanted to cry. I
may have you wanted to give him some classics? Yeah,
and then Barbie, I mean another classic, yes that everyone
should be getting into.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
I can't remember the fourth. Hey, JJ, if you're listening,
please let us know what the fourth one.
Speaker 10 (16:32):
Also, have you.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
Watched any JJ? And what do you think of a? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Did you actually hear a great movie?
Speaker 3 (16:38):
You should slide into his d ms and see what
movie suggestions He actually took from that entire Q and
A because now he's going to have some time.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Now he's now he's going to be on social more
than I thought. It was so sad.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
It was a picture of him and his Vikings uniform
on the field with the question box and said what
are your favorite movies?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
And it just really broke my ome.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
So this was recent, It was like two days ago, okay,
so he knows, he knows it was. It was heartbreaking,
but not so heartbreaking that I couldn't send the man
some movie.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
I love that. I love that so much.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
We're gonna take a quick break here, but when we
come back, Dodgers can buy players, but they can't buy
a break.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Welcome back to Fox Sport's Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Tracy Sandler. We are broadcasting live from the Tag
dot Com Studios in Los Angeles. We have our special
guest producer and USC professor India right with us today.
Thank you for spending your Saturday afternoon with us. We're
having a party today, you guys. We are having fun.
We are having fund That's a theme of Saturdays. What's
(18:31):
not fun you guys? This one's tough for an LA
girl here. Okay, we are officially in the dog days
of summer for baseball. Both of my World Series picks
are looking like pretty good right now. Okay, both battling
for the top spots in the National League Dodgers American
League Yankees. Yeah yeah, yeah, come at me. Everyone came
(18:52):
at me before the season started. But hey, they have
some of the best players in the leagues on their team.
But let's start here in LA. Because the Dodgers, yeah,
it's been a roller coserve season. You know, they can't
buy They can buy players, but they cannot buy a break.
Let's start with the positive though, because they got Mookie
Bets back, Yes they did on Monday. What do you
do hit a home Er in his first game back,
(19:12):
like it. Just having him back in that lineup and
on the field is such an energy shift.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
It changes everything. And then all of a sudden, you're now,
who do you pitch it to? You've got show Hey,
You've got Mooki, you have Freddie Freeman, you have to
Oscar Hernandez.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Who are you pitching to?
Speaker 5 (19:26):
You?
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Will Smith?
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Even Will Smith's been a little struggling a little bit,
but he's still Will Smith, so he's gonna come alive
at any second. So it makes a huge difference. And
then in last night's game, Mooki had a huge home run, huge,
So just his presence is everything, and having him back
is everything. If they could just get their pitchers to
stay healthy, would so much.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
That's that's the heartbreak. Another star went to the IL
last night. Tyler Glass now placed on the IL with
right elbow tendonitis, and he's been their ace and most
consistent arm this season. Now, the Dodgers are still in
first place in the NA, but Padres and d Backs
are right on their heels. I got a little bit
(20:05):
of a hot take here. Honestly, I think this is
the best thing that could happen for the Dodgers. I
agree down the stretch right, because let's think about it.
The last eleven years, the Dodgers have won the NLS
ten times. They've been one of the best regular season teams,
with only one World Series to show for it. In
twenty twenty, they've had three straight one hundred plus win
seasons and haven't made it past the NLCS. My theory is,
(20:29):
when you clinch a playoff spot too early, I agree, right,
you aren't playing meaningful baseball down the stretch, and it's
really hard to flip that switch back on once the
playoffs momentum.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
You can't.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yeah, actually, in base if you are fighting for your life,
fighting for a spot in the postseason all the way
down to the end of September beginning of October when
the playoffs start, I think that could be the best
thing that's happened to the Dodgers. Hopefully they get some
of their guys back off the IL. Max Munsey should
be back any day now, he's had a couple of
(21:04):
rehab starts. Yamamoto should be back in time for a
playoff run. Hopefully Tyler glasnow only misses a couple of starts.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
But I I agree with you I've been saying for
a while that I almost I almost don't want them
to win the division because I think the buye has
been bad for them.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
It's been really bad. And I think the concern.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
At this point, though, is that if they don't win
the division, they're going to play themselves right out of
the playoffs because everything is so close. But I have
been saying that for a while that that I think
it would almost be better because go back, go back
to twenty twenty one, and they did.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
They were taken out in the NLCS.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
They dealt with some injuries then, but they were neck
and neck with the Giants in the second half of
the season.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
They lose a.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Division by one game, so they have to do the
one and done game, and they do that game, they
win it in the bottom of the ninth on a
Chris Taylor home run. But then they go then they
go to division series against the Giants that goes five games.
By the NLCS, they were kind of cooked and they
had some injury issues and that was that, but that
an exciting playoff run.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
So I do think this is good for them.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Even if they win the division and they do have
a three run lead, they help themselves out on Friday,
and the Diamondbacks and Padres help them by losing on Friday,
So they've got their three game lead there.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
But it's gonna be tough this last month, but it's
good for them. They need to agree.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
They definitely need it, and then hopefully they go into
the playoffs. And once the playoffs start in any sport, yes,
it's a fresh start.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
It's a whole new thing. It's a new season.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
So you put Glaza on the aisle. Now hopefully he
only does miss a couple starts. He's healthy for October.
We still don't know what's going on with Yamamoto. It's
gonna be an interesting month in a lot of ways.
For the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
It's so tough.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
There are two big arms that they needed, Like, could
you imagine having the starting rotation everybody healthy going into
the playoffs. That's that's how you go deep in the postseason.
So it's it's gonna be tough. Quick shout out to
the Yankees and their captain Aaron Judge. Fastest player ever
to reach three hundred home runs. He's the only player
(22:56):
to do it in under a thousand games.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
It's amazing. It's like he is. He's an apple, he's
a monster, and he's huge.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
He's huge, yes, all of it.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
He's alive. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
So this is again, like I said before the season started,
I picked the two Powerhouse.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Like everyone said, it was a cop out to meet
in the world series.
Speaker 10 (23:17):
Everyone would be happy to see you start.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Company's iconic. Are you kidding?
Speaker 8 (23:22):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (23:23):
And for Fox Sports the next for this, this would
be the most lucrative world series there is. And you
can't lie. Everybody's gonna want to see Judge Soto oh
Tani that yeah, everybody.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
It is totally. It's like an all start m VP
world series.
Speaker 7 (23:42):
So the series in June was incredible.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Don't at me. I hope it happens now.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
You thank us to thank you, and I got your back.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
This is why I love you guys. Okay, now let's
check in with Brian Findlan and see what's trending.
Speaker 12 (23:55):
Yeah, Alex Tracy and idiot you just I mean what
we just saw right now in this NFL preseason game,
Patrick Mahomes went behind his back with.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
A passos doing this.
Speaker 6 (24:06):
Yes, of course to Kelsey.
Speaker 12 (24:09):
Just a few plays ago, in this NFL preseason game
where the Chiefs are leading three to nothing against the Lions.
This is going to be making viral video status all
over your social media platforms. Patrick Mahomes completes a pass
running to his right out of the pocket, goes behind
his back as if he's got a basketball, and behind
the back pass yeah and finds Kelsey. Was an incredible play,
(24:32):
one of many that we've seen in this Chiefs game
so far. Meanwhile, Caleb Williams, making his soldier field debut
for the Bear struggled early when over three passing and
then since then had seventy five yards and a seven
yard scamper for a touchdown and the Bears winning convincingly
twenty seven to three against the Bengals. Also, the Ravens
(24:53):
with a thirteen to twelve win over the Falcons and
a lot of scuttle bought out after the game.
Speaker 6 (24:59):
Where was Michael Pennick Junior? Why was he not playing?
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Were he?
Speaker 12 (25:01):
Morris telling team reporter Tory mcelhaney that the Pennick Junior
did not play, specifically because he had showed the team
enough in that first preseason game and felt no need
to play him again in preseason game number two. Also
to mention here, just gone final the Texans twenty eight
to ten winners against the Giants, and not the best
(25:21):
of performances to say the very least for Daniel Jones
two interceptions, one was a pick six, and he finished
with one hundred and thirty eight yards passing. C. J.
Stroud of course, got the starting notin for Houston, seven
of ten through the air eighty eight yards in limited
duty for him. And then lastly in Major League Baseball,
that Cubs Blue Jays game back up and running after
(25:44):
the weather delay. They're in the fifth and in Cubs
leading one to nothing, raised two to nothing in front
of the Diamondbacks. That's in the second. Also, we do
have a couple of finals. Two Dimension Pirates over the
Mariners seven to two. Y'all were talking about the Yankees
and they struggled in this game offensively. They fell on
the road to the Detroit Tigers four to nothing. With that,
(26:08):
let's get it back over to India. Tracy and Alex,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Brian.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
You're listening to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Tracy Sandler. We are broadcasting live from the tire
dot Com Studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your Saturday afternoon with Tracy, India and me.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
And it is time for our first guest.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
She is one of the smartest minds on TV NFL Networks,
analytics expert, a best friend of the show, joining us
live from Denver right before she calls a Broncos game tomorrow.
Speaker 9 (26:34):
Cynthia Freelan, Hi, Hello, guys.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
Hi.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Did we make it safe and sound?
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (26:41):
Perfect, safe and sound. It's like one hundred and fifty
degrees here, you know, it's enjoying some air conditioning before
we're going to go to the Rocky game tonight.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
It's gonna be a lot of that Padres, right, yep,
Rocky Padres go Rockies. Okay, yeah, right, they're both Yeah. No,
we were just talking about the Dodgers both division matchup game.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
But Cynthia, we've been hearing some great things about Bonix
from Broncos camp.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
You've been there.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Sean Payton still hasn't really announced the Week one starter.
Is Nix the clear front runner right now for the Broncos?
Speaker 8 (27:18):
Yeah, I mean I don't.
Speaker 9 (27:20):
Obviously I'm not, you know, reporting news here, there's no
Brick news, but in my opinion, it feels like it's
set up for him to succeed. I mean, it seems
like Garrett Stidham will be the number two and maybe
Zach Wilson will be looking for another home. But it's
it's unclear to me about the number two. But I
think the b Nicks situation will be from day one.
(27:41):
He will be their, their, their starter. He just it
feels like the offense is sort of tailored to what
Bonicks does really well. Remember, I think sometimes people forget
because he was in college for so long. He's also
like a really good runner. Here's like six hundred and
fifty starts in college, so you know, he's a really
good run. He's great rambling, and Sean complimented. The one
(28:02):
thing that made me feel like like the little clue
was when Sean complimented him saying he makes really good
decisions with the ball in his hands. He runs when
he has to, but not as like a crutch. And
he also said, like, you know, being smart about it
is what he looks foremost, and quote it reminded him
of Drewe.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
That's so with that in mind, what is the vibe
Like there is a lighter vibe because I feel like
the last couple of years with Russell Wilson and Sean
Payton that obviously wasn't working just generally around the team.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
What does the vibe feel like?
Speaker 9 (28:35):
They're really young, so their rookie class. I mean, if
you're looking for a good fantasy pick in later rounds,
you want to pick Audric Estime. They're running back that
came from Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Right, set down everybody.
Speaker 9 (28:48):
Yeah, and then they also have like their they're one
of their wide receivers Vele who is a late round
pick as well. Like Sean likened this class himself to
like a very like an O six Saints draft, which
is very strong class. He's like, I'm not saying they're
as good, but I'm saying, like this is the type
of class where the late round guys are even going
to be contributing. So you know, it's young. So they
(29:09):
feel a lot different this season than last year or
the year prior, even when it was Nathaniel Hackett I
was the head coach. It's just a different like they're
just like having fun and they don't know what they
don't know, if that makes sense right, Like they feel
very like refreshed and a lot more it's a lot
lighter here than it was even too, you know, one
two seasons ago.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
I mean, that's kind of the secret sauce is that
most most winning championship teams are having fun. So what
would be considered a successful season for Sean Payton and
the Broncos.
Speaker 9 (29:42):
Probably a nice trajectory up to the right for the quarterback,
and a lot of improvement in that run defense specifically.
In fact, the last at the end of the season
last year, the Broncos actually left the league left the
season with the number one third down defense, which was
kind of a surprise. They got better against the past,
and of course they've got Pat ser Chan back there
(30:02):
and a couple of great edge rushers. Baron Browning's now
fully healthy from the beginning of the season, so that's
going to make a difference. But the offense will need
to look a little more like growth oriented, right Like
I think running and the trenches will be where you
see the biggest source of improvement. I you know, there's
a team in red that's playing right now, that's in
division that's you know kind of they're not really I
(30:24):
don't think they're sitting there's being like, we need to
win the division. Nothing like that, right. I think they're saying,
can we have a situation where we're getting guys are
who are getting better and the quarterback decision we made
looks good and the guys like these draft picks that
we brought in not even necessarily expecting, you know, it
was like a fifth round pick like that. This is
this is not a you know, you're you're having people who.
Speaker 8 (30:45):
Like you're getting.
Speaker 9 (30:46):
You're getting a lot more out of where you drafted them,
especially considering they're still paying for Russell Wilson.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
Who will be playing.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Million. That's going to be an interesting week too.
Speaker 9 (30:57):
We too, they play Russell. So my like that, you
know my conspiracy theory. My conspiracy theory is that Russell
Wilson will start in Pittsburgh until Week two and then
week three and BC two will be at justin Field.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Oh. I like that. That's a good conspiracy theory. I've
been saying Field is going to get in pretty soon too.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
So we've been talking a lot on the show about
quarterback injuries, and you mentioned that you think Jared Senden
will be QB two. Zach Wilson's going to have to
find a new home. I would just like to know
how that competition is going and what is it like,
what has Zach Wilson been like there? Is he embracing
this new team?
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Is he being.
Speaker 7 (31:36):
Similar to what he was like in New York?
Speaker 4 (31:38):
But I think QB two has become a really important
position in the NFL because guys get into a lot.
So I would just love to know a little bit
more about that competition.
Speaker 9 (31:46):
Yeah, I think the thing that I learned about Zach Wilson,
I know I've seen him with the Jets preseason prior.
He's not I mean, he's getting.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Along with the guys like you know, on the sideline.
Speaker 9 (31:56):
The one thing I really love about doing like preseason
games is you get to see the chemistry of like
all of the ninety guys on the roster, right, you
get to see like who's kind of one of the
dudes and who's kind of not. And he's certainly one
of the dudes. You know, he's in there, He's like.
Speaker 8 (32:11):
I don't think they would like to cut him.
Speaker 9 (32:14):
I just think Stida provides a veteran presence and leadership
quality that you know that that they would like to
have be the foil to Bonix, right, So realistically, I mean,
I think Zach Wilson will find another home. He looks crazy.
He's had some really nice thros in practice, you know,
during the game. He didn't get a lot of action
last week, so I don't I don't even know if
we should count that, but you know, he he ultimately
(32:36):
will probably find another home, you know, and perhaps it
will be with wouldn't it be funny if he and
Sam Darnold g bos.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
On the same time, just that JJ, so they kind
of yeah, I mean, they.
Speaker 9 (32:50):
Picked up Matt Corral. They picked up a guy named
Matt Corral that you know, he's in the league, a
couple of beers as well, but Corral, like, I think,
you know Zach Wilson especially because for what is it?
I mean, look, Sean Payton is a Bill Parcell's disciple.
Bill Parcells will always pick a high round guy for
like no money, just in case. It's a good strategy, right,
It elevates practice that he certainly won't be unfortunately won't
(33:12):
be on their practice squad because he'll get picked up
by someone else. So you know, it's you should have
that pedigree there, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Okay, let's switch gears to the Cowboys. Because Dak Prescott,
Ceed Lamb are still waiting for their contract extensions this offseason.
If they happen, which deal do you think is more important?
And do they get done before the start of the season.
Speaker 9 (33:33):
I think that this is like true Cowboys form. I
think like it's a secret plan of Jerry Jones to
give people like an extra couple weeks off so that
they can, you know, for Ceedee Lamb, so they can
like skill and relax a little bit. I don't know,
but they'll both get I think they'll both get done,
and I think for this particular season, I think the
Lamb one is probably more, you know, if you're if
(33:56):
you're a Cowboys, that one to me, obviously quarterbacks the
most important position in football, but you know, they don't
have a lot of other pass catching options in this
and if Dak, you know, Dak would be incentivized to
play well. If he you know, there's some rumors maybe
he wants to go whatever somewhere else later, right, he's
incentivized to play well this year either way, so that
(34:17):
he's either auditioning for another team or you know, getting
paid on this one. So I think the incentive structure
is there for Ceedee Lamb to get paid this year.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Okay, I would.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
I would agree with that, even if Jerry Jones doesn't
think it's a big sense of urgency.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
I'm with you, Cynthia. Okay, he's like, it's August.
Speaker 9 (34:34):
I don't need to sign.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
We don't play.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
It needs to be running practice.
Speaker 9 (34:42):
It listens.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
It's not Sundays.
Speaker 8 (34:44):
You know they don't play on Sundays.
Speaker 9 (34:45):
You have to play on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
So whatever, Okay, real quick before we let you go,
who is like your dark horse surprise team this year.
Speaker 9 (34:53):
That's a great question. I don't know if it's that
much of a surprise, but you know, I think that,
like I think, like everything about the Texans to me
is in this full swing mode. I know they made
the playoffs last year, but I don't I'm not worried
about Trevor Lawrence and the Jags one bit. I'm not
worried about the Titans and Will Levis one bit.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
No.
Speaker 9 (35:11):
Okay, the Colts could contend, maybe, but they already won
nine games last year and they didn't win the division,
and they won nine games with Gardner minshew. I'm worried
about Emday Richardson's staying healthy but long story short of
I think in the AfD where all these all the
teams in the East are going to be each other up,
all the teams in the North are going to beat
each other up, why not look at the South and say, hey,
like other than the chiefs, Like why why wouldn't you
(35:33):
think like really smart idea to like think about all
the things. I even love c J. Strack for fantasy.
I think Nico Collins. Nico Collins is so underrated for
fantasy it's unreleased, like wide receiver ten right now. Whatever, man,
I'll take him. I'll take him any day of the
week in round two.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Yes, did I love that?
Speaker 1 (35:50):
So?
Speaker 3 (35:50):
No, sophomore slump is what I'm hearing, and I'm not luck. No, Cynthia,
I love you always. Thank you for joining us. Have
fun at the game tonight, have a great call tomorrow. Boh,
watch Cynthia call the Broncos game on NFL Network Sunday.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
We love you, have so much fun.
Speaker 8 (36:06):
We love you.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
I love you, guys.
Speaker 9 (36:07):
Thanks for having me by guys.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
All right, we're going to take a quick break here,
but when we come back, the dues and the don'ts

Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here
with Tracy Sandler. We are broadcasting live from the Tark
dot com studios in Los Angeles. Thank you for spending
your afternoon with Tracy, India and me. And it is time, you, guys,
for the dues and the don'ts in sports, highlighting the
d I.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Love that putting the spotlight on the don't.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
The subject brings me no joy.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
That's insane.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
It's time for the dues and the dots in sports.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Okay, we were just talking about this. If you were
listening to us a moment ago.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
My first du is, do use your platform for good
and don't take yourself too seriously. Will Levis released a
signature set with Helm and Mayo called Will Levis Number
eight Perfume Day Mayonnaise, And if you guys have seen
this commercial, it has major Zoolander vibes like he is in.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
This high white production, high production, super.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
High production like It sold out within ninety minutes on Tuesday,
and all proceeds will go to a yet to be
named cause.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
But if you're wondering why he.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Did this collab, Levice went viral during the draft for
putting Mayo in his coffee, and he just leaned into
this entire thing, and you know what I'm here for.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
I love what you lean in for a good cause
though lean Yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
We don't know what the cause is yet, So that's
that's kind of the funny thing.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
It's like, well, all the pro seeds will go somewhere good.
I'm just got to.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
Figure out where it is.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
We'll find out.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Hopefully that doesn't become a don't Yeah, you're right for
the next week.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
But the running in the white and down the.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Fog, it's so good production values, A plus wardrobe vibe
again like very Zoolander vibes.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Yeah, it is great.
Speaker 5 (38:10):
A conversation before the season starts, I think is great.
Speaker 9 (38:12):
Smart.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Let's remember who will loves is Yes, thank you.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Thank you, man will love us.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
My do is also using your platform for good, but
a little bit different. Some mobiles talking about still seeing
her therapists while at the Olympics and making sure to
make those appointments and how important they are. And I
just think generally she's been such an advocate for mental
health and how important it is. And I think the
fact that she told everybody I was still seeing my
therapist that was a priority to me.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
It's just I just think it's incredible.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
So morning morning and she won gold.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
She talked about it in her interview. You know, like,
how did like what do you think like helped you
get gold? She's like, my therapist this morning.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Eleven am.
Speaker 10 (38:53):
And she's doing it on local time, so that therapist
was probably up, you know, two three am to be there.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
But how important it is.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
It's everything, It's everything. I am a huge advocate of therapy.
Everyone's like, how are you happy all the time. I'm
like therapy on Wednesdays, we heal, Okay, we cry and
we heal.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
And I love therapy is amazing for everybody.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Men's my women athlete. Everybody go all right, India, you
got to do or don't I think.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
I want to do?
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Do?
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Okay, let's go.
Speaker 10 (39:24):
Fanatics, they had an event and Alex Earl, social media
influencer girlfriend to Braxton Barrios, dressed.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
Up as him at the event.
Speaker 10 (39:34):
Gets out there and I just think, you know, it's
a fun play. But I think what I love and
I think the NFL is doing it the best in
any league, is this cross crossover between other genres like influencers,
social media and NFL has been doing such a great
job and what they do. It's like you bring an
Alex Earlin into the NFL and all of a sudden,
you're getting.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
These viewers that don't watch the NFL.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
They you know, they're fans of Alex Earl and this
crossover between music and social media influencers. I think NFL
is doing a great job and I think it's getting
different fans, new fans involved in the NFL, and I
think it's saw with.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
Taylor Swift and I think it's great. I think it's
great to see that crossover.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
It was so fun.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
They actually had I have another like I'm I'm gonna
piggyback on this one with a don't don't take yourself
too seriously because at the Fanatics event, they actually had
a couple different people in disguise because Alex Earl was
like getting Braxident's like full uniform helmet everything, so you
like didn't know it was her.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Tom Brady and Gronk.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Also made an appearance at the Fanatics Past yesterday, dress
up in full gear as each other.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Brady was Gronk, Gronk was Brady.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
They walked around the whole event like until the crowd
got too big and kind of was like, wait, is.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
This really them? I think this might actually be Brady
and Gronk. But they were so funny.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
They were having such a great time, and I just
I love when people.
Speaker 10 (40:50):
I was acting like he was Tom Brady, Tom Brady, Yeah,
high pitched yea, Hi Brady.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
All Right, you guys, we come back.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
We've got some big names that still need to get
Will it happen before week one?
Speaker 2 (41:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Welcome to our two of Fox Sports Saturday. I'm Alex

I'm like no, I'm not, but yes I am. Yes,
She's back up, like, yes I am. Can I just
say something? Is anybody else having Olympic withdrawals?
Speaker 12 (41:46):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (41:46):
Because for the two weeks that the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Were on, I woke up every single day watching basically
dreams come true and cried and watch sports I would
never normally watch, Like can we talk about table tennis?
Speaker 2 (41:59):
How like trick?
Speaker 4 (42:00):
It was everything And I also thought it was so emotional.
I cried every day in the Olympics. And I do
I miss it? I really do I miss these Olympics.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Why?
Speaker 6 (42:08):
But why was it?
Speaker 5 (42:09):
It felt it felt better than ones in the past.
Speaker 7 (42:11):
I know we had was weird, always the one back, Yeah, but.
Speaker 5 (42:15):
It felt I don't know. The coverage felt better.
Speaker 10 (42:18):
Well, I think real content creators out there showing us
kind of behind the scenes, and then the athletes are
creators and content creators themselves.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Yeah, I got chills, bring back the music.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
There's an intimacy about it.

brought they did, like the Red Zone. He was born

Speaker 10 (42:49):
Also Snoop and Martha Stewart. I just made on that
friendship done.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
I watched them like, we need a full time reality
show of their friendship. Yeah, Martha and Snoop, like, just
bring it back. That Paris was a warm up for Snoop.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
All right, let's dive back into the NFL, you guys,
because we've got a lot of preseason football going on today.
I think the big, the big kind of story this
morning was Caleb Williams the Bears getting his first touchdown
off to a little bit of a slow start, but
then when it needed to happen, had an incredible drive
getting the ball down the field. I don't again, I'm
(44:20):
not specifically comparing him to Patrick Mahomes, but his touchdown
play was very Patrick Mahomes esque, like getting out of
a tackle, super calm, seeing the field looking like he
was maybe going to throw it across his body to
then run it in for a touchdown. So I think
Bears fans are excited, be very excited, and.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
Really be excited this time.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
It might really work. I think this is going to work.
They've never had that guy, but he is that guy. India,
you were talking about on our car right here. We
carpooled here today so much. You're welcome Cooper at your service.
You were talking talking about his kind of his demeanor
at USC and really seeing that also, yeah, now into
(45:07):
the NFL.
Speaker 10 (45:07):
Yeah, No, just how he carried himself and he walked
around campus at USC while he was there, he was he's.
Speaker 5 (45:13):
An old soul.
Speaker 10 (45:13):
Yeah, he has a leadership presence even when he's not
on the football field. And I got to kind of
watch and observe that while I was on campus myself.
Speaker 5 (45:20):
Just how he walks through campus. He is a leader.
Speaker 10 (45:23):
He led the mental health conversation at US Siege. He's
just prepared for the moment. And I know we keep
comparing him on the field to a Patrick Mahomes, but
I don't think that's a bad thing for Also, I
think he's also like Patrick and his mentality and how
he carries himself. I was fortunate to work with Patrick
Mahomes when he was coming into the league and do
his full story.
Speaker 5 (45:44):
And Patrick came in. He was kind, he.
Speaker 10 (45:46):
Was gracious, he was so respectful to everyone, and he
was a professional. He came in, did what you asked
him to do, and left. And then I got to
work with Patrick every year after that for the last
five years. And no matter how many Super Bowls, Pat
has won, no much, no matter how much success, how
much money, he still came in, was coachable, took direction,
and that I see a lot in Caleb as well,
(46:06):
how he carries himself and that in those mannerisms, and
I think more than how great he is on the field,
which we all want to see, the razzle dazz on
the field, that leadership and how he carries himself like
that is a franchise quarterback that you want in your
organization to be leading your team.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
That's what I want to hear.
Speaker 7 (46:23):
And he's unapologetically himself, which I love and I just
love that about him.
Speaker 10 (46:27):
I love that so ch That's generation of quarterbacks are
really much that, you know, being a gen Z Yes,
gen Z Yeah, are energetically themselves.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
I love it so much.
Speaker 5 (46:36):
Hitting our nail, paying their nails.
Speaker 3 (46:37):
Please more of that. You guys were nineteen days away.
It has just been from kickoff. I'm just going to
keep reminding we're in week two of preseason. We still
have this is what we're going to get into now.
We still have some big names waiting to get paid,
and we're going to start in San Francisco since Tracy
is the forty nine Ers beat reporter and can hopefully
give us some insider info because they have two big
(47:01):
contracts that need to be done. Everybody's talking about Brandon Nayuk,
but Trent Williams is also a big name that needs
to who they need to get it done. But let's
start with the Brandon Nyuk saga timeline. Okay, a few
weeks ago, the forty nine Ers said they had no
intention of trading him. Then the forty nine ers gave
Ayuk permission to negotiate a potential trade if both sides
(47:23):
got exactly what they wanted, which forty nine Ers asking
for two number one picks, Ayuk wants top wide receiver money.
And now the talk is forty nine Ers in Nayuk
might be close to a long term deal. And remember
Ayuk is doing a hold in, meaning he's there with
the team but not practicing.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
So Tracy walk us through all.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
This, what's the vibe, the rumors and the relationship like
with Ayuk and the team right now while all this
is going down.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
So the hold in is interesting because I think there
are pros and cons to it. On the one hand,
he's there, he's going to meetings, his teammates are seeing
him every day. On the other hand, he's there and
his teammates are seeing him every day, and he has
inside his contract and he's not practicing.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
Now.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
Interestingly, I will say he's been watching practice the last
several yesterday he was doing some conditioning work on the side.
So let's not forget what the hold in. He also
has a sore back, which was something that Kyle Shanahan
talked about on Friday and he said, you guys are
calling it a hold in. I'm not disagreeing with you,
but the player has a sore back. That will be
(48:28):
interesting when it comes to finding or having to find
him because if he's hurt, he's hurt. But he was
doing some conditioning on the side. That's the first time
we've seen that. When was that yesterday? Ok, that was
the first time that we've seen that, so I do
think they're getting close. I think ultimately they want to
work this out, and I think him being there shows
(48:50):
he wants to work it out. But I also think
him being there could also be kind of like annoying.
It's like I was like, Okay, let's then, let's practice.
And I will never ever say anything against a player
getting everything he deserves. They are in a sport where
one play and it can all be over, and so
the team will always take care of itself. Brandon has
to take care of himself. But I think we are
(49:10):
getting closer. I don't think this is something that is
going to go into the season, which, to be honest you,
a week or so ago I felt very differently, and
a week or so ago I also was like, I
think they're going to trade him.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
And my feelings of this.
Speaker 6 (49:22):
Had gone all over.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
Says since since two days after the Super Bowl, we
were in the locker room and he was very emotional
and he was asked, you want to stay here and
he said if it works out, and a reporter said
what does that mean and he said being a champion,
And so it was.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
Like, would you want to be traded? The Chiefs like, like,
what does that mean?
Speaker 4 (49:41):
But you know, people are super emotional after tough Super
Bowl losses, but it's just been such a roller coaster.
At the end of the day, I do think they
are going to get this done. It could be a
Bosa situation where it's like leading right into week one,
but by the same token, I think it behooves everybody
to just figure this out in the next week and
(50:03):
like and put this aside. And then of course you
mentioned Trent Williams. Yeah, which is between the two of
them on before you have Tilliams.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
I have one more thing, because you heard Deebo Samuel's
on the k Adam Show yesterday. Kay asked him, can
this team win a Super Bowl without Ayuk? And Deebo said,
I think Brandon Ayuk is going to be a part
of this team, so we don't have to worry about that.
So is everybody kind of on that mindset that like
maybe he's telling them something that I want to stay here.
(50:31):
Maybe there's like a feeling like coaches like, don't worry.
I think we're going to get him. We want to
figure this out because like if your other top guy,
Deebo is saying, like I don't think we have to
worry about it. Ba is going to be a part
of the team. Like, is that really what people are
believing and feeling.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
I think it's what you want to believe and think
when you're there. And he's not the only one to
say it. So someone with Hvarius Ward was asked the
other day do they miss him? And he said, we
haven't played a game without him yet, so I can't
tell you if we miss him, And that's come up
a few times.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
I think the I think he's gonna be part of you.
I think Deebo does think he's going to be a
part of the team.
Speaker 10 (51:03):
I also think he's gonna be trying to get him
to be a part of this team. You know, you
know Deebo putting that out there? Is it kind of
like port like.
Speaker 5 (51:11):
Why you here?
Speaker 9 (51:12):
Well?
Speaker 4 (51:12):
And I think Deebo's done that pretty much throughout the
throughout training camp. And he and Deebo spent a lot
of time chatting on the sideline when when Brandon is
at practice, so they are saying they're talking, and Deebo
has been very clear about that. But Deebo also went
through a contract negotiation a couple of years ago, and
he has said, I understand it, I get it, and
so I know what's going on. So I think he
does think he's gonna be part of this team. I
think they all think he's going to be a part
(51:33):
of this team. But until that contract is done, like, what.
Speaker 10 (51:36):
Do you want to get it done so we can
focus on the task at hands starting the season.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
Yeah, but if you're that far apart, and the Steelers
reportedly have a trade ready for you, So what's your
gut feeling? Is he going to be in San Francisco
or is he going to be in Pittsburgh. My gut feeling,
he's going to be in San Francisco. That is my
gut feeling.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
And I would say two weeks ago I may have
felt differently, But.
Speaker 5 (51:56):
Why but why so, why are you changing that gut feeling?
Speaker 4 (51:59):
Because I think him being there and watching practice, the conditioning,
and I also think he turned down the money to
go play for the Patriots. Thirty two million dollars a
year is a lot of money. That's a lot of money,
and so he turned that down, And ultimately I think
he wants you, he wants to be there, and they
have always seen him as their wide receiver one of
(52:20):
the features. He's their wide receiver one. They don't have
a wide receiver one without him. The other part of
this is that their number on their their first round
draft pick, Ricky Pearsall.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Has barely been on the field.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
He can't stay healthy, so they also I think his
training camp began there was an opportunity to see, Okay,
what can Ricky Pearsall do? What could he do in
the preseason. He hasn't played in a preseason game. I'm
not sure he's going to play tomorrow. So now it's like,
we need to.
Speaker 7 (52:45):
Get this done.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
And I think he wants to be there.
Speaker 5 (52:48):
I really do it.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
Just this stuff gets complicated social media.
Speaker 7 (52:54):
For all the things we talked about, but it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
Yet also I also don't like the way he was
going about it like he was he posted that FaceTime.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Yeah, it's it's not.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
Great, but it's also if we take it's on, is
this the world the world we live in?
Speaker 2 (53:08):
And that's it?
Speaker 4 (53:09):
And I don't disagree with you, but I think I
just think I think he is going to be on
this team, and I will I will go a step
farther and say will be. I'm actually going to be
pretty shocked if he's not.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
I mean, forty nine ers are favored in every single
game this season. I think that changes if I Use
is not on the team. But let's move to another
contract that's not getting as much media attention. Trent Williams
offensive line, but arguably oh more a port deal than
I you because protecting brock Purdy is the number one priority.
(53:40):
Because if you look at brock Purty with and without
Trent Williams, it's not a huge sample size, but it's
enough to show you how important Trent Williams is. Like
with Trent Williams, he's nineteen and three without one and
two touchdown interception, forty two and eleven two and four.
Passer rating is one fourteen with Trent, eighty seven point
nine without Trent, and he is holding out. Have you
(54:01):
seen him around the facility? How close are both sides
to getting that deal done?
Speaker 4 (54:06):
So I think the reason it's not getting as much
attention is because he's holding out, so he is not
around the facility.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
I think with Brandon being there on.
Speaker 4 (54:11):
A daily basis, it feels like a different thing. I
think they'll get it done, you know, in the next
couple of weeks.
Speaker 7 (54:18):
He arguably is more important. Can they win without Brandon Aiyuk?
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Yes, will be harder. Yes.
Speaker 7 (54:24):
Can they win without Trent Williams? Absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (54:26):
Last year he missed three games, they lost all three games.
I've been saying all off season before the holdout that
the team I believe is a Trent Williams injury away
from the season being done.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Oh snap.
Speaker 4 (54:38):
So that offensive line has been good, it's certainly better,
and I think the forty nine ers think it's better
than maybe the public does and the fans do. But
Trent Williams is like the star, the anchor that holds
them together, and so he is more important. That being said,
one doesn't have anything to do with the other in
terms of having to get And Kyle was flat out
OUSTI the other day and he's like, no, and it
(54:59):
doesn't it's not. Getting Brandon done doesn't mean that now
they can get trente. They just have to get them
both done. Trent's a veteran, and Trent's been through a
lot of training camps. He's going to be thirty six
years old like he.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
Which will be all you are towards the probably his
last contract, so it's probably his last contract.
Speaker 4 (55:18):
But I think it also he knows what he needs
to do to get prepared for a season, like Trent
will be fine.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
So he's saying in shape, so he's ready to go.
If say it happens like a week before the season starts,
he's working out, he's I.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
Would say, nothing compares to like being with the team.
Nick Bosa said that last year. Deebo Samuel said it
the year before. It did affect them. I just think
in Trent's case it might be all different. It'll take
it will take some time. And actually I think the
offensive line coach said something that I thought was really
(55:51):
interesting that he never sees players more exhausted than they
are after like the first like the first series or
first half of the first game of the season and
that because that's that, and then he's like an after that,
no matter how many games we played, it becomes normal.
So is trut Williams going to come out and be
able to play every snap like? Probably not, But they
(56:13):
will figure this one out. But it is more important.
It's not an either or no, but it is more
important because they do have other weapons rock party and
you have you have to protect Brock, You've got a
run game that whole offense is predicated on the rune
moves together.
Speaker 10 (56:28):
You know, it's like a very different than a wide
receiver cohesive.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
The cohesive every guy there on the same page they do.
Leader of the pack, he's the leader. He's the leader
of the pack.
Speaker 10 (56:39):
Be like him not being at training camp and in practice,
that would be my only concern.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
He's yeah, it's definitely, it's definitely huge.
Speaker 7 (56:47):
I just think ultimately he will be finite.
Speaker 2 (56:49):
Yeah, guys, or is it lined to last year? Pretty similar?
Speaker 10 (56:53):
Though.
Speaker 4 (56:53):
They do have a rookie who's been a surprise, Dominic Pooney,
who's been playing at right guard, who's been a real
pleasant surprise. He's been a very pleasant to get right.
I think I think he is going to end up
being the starter. They have not flat out said yet.
I think he's going to end up being the starter.
So that'll be great. That being said, they still need
Trent wa Yeah, well you need your leadams so desperately.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
Will both of these deals get done? Yeah? Okay they will. Okay,
they will both get done. You heard it here.
Speaker 4 (57:22):
Trent might get I wonder if Trent might get it
done even faster than Brandon, But I would say within
the next couple of weeks, both these deals would get done.
In my humble opinion.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
For forty nine Ers fans, you hope.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
So, I mean, this is kind of like, I feel
like this is their last year or two of the
Super Bowl window. All of their major offensive pieces are
up for their next contract after next season. They have
two years for majority of their offensive guys, this is
the atensions, this is the year, this is the it
has to be this year their favorite in every single game.
You're coming off that chip on your shoulder.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
The reason you are, the reason that the Chiefs are
now a dynasty.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Losing in overtime in the Super Bowl, which kind of
felt like I don't think everybody realized that was it
when it happened too, So there are so many components
to that, Like I brock party, go off, prove everyone wrong.
I think you're a top tier quarterback. Come at me.
But like I am really excited and really hope they
get both of these contracts done. We're going to take
(58:16):
a quick break here, but when we come back, players,
weekend is back.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
You guys, you're.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to Fox Sports Saturday.
I'm Alex Curry alongside Tracy Sandler. We are broadcasting live

(58:42):

wherever you get your podcasts, and you'll see the show
posted right after we get off the air. We'll also
post it to all of our social media platforms. We
got you covered, all right, guys, Happy Players Weekend.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
Now.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
For those who are not familiar with this weekend, I
like to explain it as baseball slowly understanding the importance
of personality in the game. Yes, all right, after four
seasons they took a hiatus. Players Weekend is back.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Now.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
It's a chance for players and again, so MLB describes it,
it's a chance for players to be themselves as I.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
Shouldn't that be the goal every single day on the field.
This is how you're gonna grow your game.
Speaker 3 (59:27):
But it is really cool because they get to help
their favorite charities or kind of explain what makes them tick.
Players get to have custom bats cleats. Some of my favorite.
We saw Otani with dog decoy on there. Michael Harris
a second had a Spider Man and Toy Story themed
(59:47):
bat and fleets see just as that went on that
the d Bats had a pencil bat logan o'happy catcher
for the Angels gear. It was a nod to some
of the kids he met at Miller's Children Women's Hospital.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
They got to decorate his chest protectors.
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
And like, so he's wearing it all weekend and each
day has a theme. So Friday is fun, Friday fun.
So this is time to show off the players personalities
and interests off the field. And one of my favorite
things I saw Lars Nutbar teamed up with Budweiser and
(01:00:24):
opened the Noot Bar in Saint Louis and I talked
to him last night and I was like, is this
gonna be like a full thing, a full time thing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
He's like, no, it's just this weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
I was like, I think we need to figure out
how to make this a full time thing. He's a
he's an LA kid al segundo kid. I'm like, whether
you do it in Saint Louis or back here in
the South Bay.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
We need the newt bar.
Speaker 5 (01:00:46):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
It's like it looked so cool. Okay. Today Saturday is Causes.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
The focus of the day will be on players' favorite
charities and community efforts, and then Sunday is Appreciation. Players
will celebrate the people who help them in their journey
to the big leagues.
Speaker 5 (01:01:02):
That's a lot of mom stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
There's got to be a yeah, a lot of moms,
a lot of coaches. I'm a little I'm gonna be honest,
you guys, I'm a little disappointed they didn't bring the
nicknames back on the back of the jersey.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Oh yeah, that's the one.
Speaker 5 (01:01:16):
That's too much fun, Alex, that'd be too much.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
I hope you guys remember there was a couple of
nicknames with emojis with emoji, So I guess I've.
Speaker 5 (01:01:26):
Probably got some pushbacks.
Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
But they don't do what it was.
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
That's the fun part, you know. They can only let
them have so much, so much fun. It's like the
NFL might cause my cleats it's every year week thirteen. Yeah,
and I love my cause my cleats It's one of
my favorite things to write about and do stories on.
Why can they not wear the cleats every Why why
can they not put their cause other cleats every weekend?
You just can't have too much fun too much.
Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
I just don't like it is.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
I want these leagues to understand like we are in
the new media, social media age and if you want
to grab these younger generation, this is what you need
to see every game, Like, let the players show their personality.
This is how you're gonna grow the audience. Make it
a younger audience, grow the game, have fun. I like
(01:02:14):
how the theme was like, oh, this is players to
show who they really are just this weekend.
Speaker 7 (01:02:20):
Yeah, the rest of the ones we are not do.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
Not like especially in baseball too.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
You used to get in trouble for like celebrating a
home run or striking someone out. It's like a small
it's a small step in the right direction for Major
League Baseball. But they should have players month if we're
going to do this at least, like I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
I feel like fun Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
Fun.
Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
That would be fun.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
If every Friday in Major League Baseball was fun Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
That would be really The season is long Tracy. So
that's a lot of fun on Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Yeah, but if you're like, could you imagine if they
had something that they.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Got to do?
Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
Everybody k having fun.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Fun Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:02:59):
It's fun Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
K K is just yeah, he's just fun Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
At could be a keyk we would all be.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
They should have that. One of the fun Fridays is
everyone should be a kik. You know what, MLB we
got you.
Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
We got a call on Fridays every Friday posseason.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
We'll share, but we will share. You get the kyk
one for free. Yeah, we love it. Now let's check
in with Brian Fenley and see what's trendy.
Speaker 12 (01:03:19):
Yeah, we got to see Patrick Mahomes go behind the
back for free in a highlight that is making the
rounds all over social media as it is part of
the Chiefs preseason slate. Right now, they are taking on
the Lions. It is sixteen to nine under the two
minute mark of the second quarter. Mahomes his numbers. He's
no longer playing in limited duty. Eight to fourteen through
(01:03:40):
the air, ninety three yards. Carson Wentz has stepped in
since five of ten, passing in thirty one yards and
a touchdown.
Speaker 6 (01:03:49):
And he's been sacked once.
Speaker 12 (01:03:50):
So that game is up and running a few that
have already gone final. In Chicago Bears, they throttle past
the Bengals twenty seven to three, and you had a
touchdown run for Caleb Williams making his soldier field debut.
Struggled early on, did Williams, but then coming in strong
as he started to get his passing in order, six
(01:04:11):
of thirteen through the air seventy five yards.
Speaker 6 (01:04:13):
He was sacked once.
Speaker 12 (01:04:16):
Also, the Ravens come up with a thirteen to twelve
win against the Falcons. Big news out of that one.
People are wondering, well, where is Michael Pennox Junior. Why
isn't the quarterback playing for Atlanta? Well, Rahee Morris telling
team reporter Tory mcklhenny that Pennick Junior did not play
specifically because he had showed the team enough in the
first preseason game to where they.
Speaker 6 (01:04:36):
Didn't need to take a look at him again.
Speaker 12 (01:04:38):
Right, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, right, Alexon, Well.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
It's an interesting approach, Like we've seen enough, but like
you could see more.
Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
Well, and also they brought him in because, as we
talked about earlier, that give you a very viable backup
to her cousins. So wouldn't you want to give that
viable backups some chances to be viable?
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Promise? Many times I could say viable.
Speaker 12 (01:05:04):
Yeah, I mean he is definitely more than just a
viable option.
Speaker 6 (01:05:07):
And did I say it? I can't believe I did that.
Speaker 12 (01:05:10):
So anyway, yeah, so we have we had that storyline
to come from that one. Also, Daniel Jones hyped in
what he did in terms of coming back to the gridiron,
but underperforming to say the least, two interceptions eleven of
eighteen through the air one hundred and thirty eight yards
passing his Giants that got beaten down by the Texans
twenty eight to ten at CJ. Stroud in his limited
(01:05:33):
role seven of ten passing eighty eight yards, notably from
the NFL Cowboys. Mazi Smith, the defensive lineman, will not
be with the team for their game tonight in Las
Vegas against the Raiders after he had an allergic flare
up yesterday. Titans linebacker Arden Key, according to reports, got
good on his appeal. He won his appeal and so
(01:05:53):
no longer will have to serve a six game suspension
from an alleged ped violation. And lastly, when it comes
to Major League Baseball two Finals, to get to it,
I'll mention just those. The Pirates over the Mariners seven
to two. Rowdy Telles had a two on home run
in that one. Also, the Tigers all over the Yankees
(01:06:14):
four to nothing, Tigers winning there. And as they get
it back to Alex, Tracy and India, there are so
many more preseason games thirteen today, let's go, let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
In a couple hours. Here.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
I was looking at that, I was like, how many
do we have? Oh my gosh, basically all of them tonight.
Thank you, Brian. You're listening to Fox Sports Saturday. I'm
Alex Curry with Tracy Sandler and our special guest India.
Right we are broadcasting live from the tire dot Com
Studios in Los Angeles, and it is time for our
next guest. Founder and CEO of The Sporting Tribune two
decades covering sports media, our dear friend a rash Marcazi.
(01:06:50):
Thanks for joining the show.
Speaker 10 (01:06:52):
Thanks there he is now.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
Rache was actually there when we decided we needed to
bring your friend to work day.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Yes, and I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
I was like, well, sent you were there for the
birth of this. Let's bring you now you're going to
come on the show and a rash. Let's start in
LA because I think we talked about going to Chargers
training camp together. But the Chargers, Yeah, Chargers have high
expectations for this season. Obviously with Jim Harbach coming in
as a head coach, what would be considered a successful
first year for Harbor the Chargers.
Speaker 8 (01:07:25):
You know, it's it's very because normally when the team
has a four season and they don't bring a lot
to the table the following season, you don't think it's
going to be a playoff team. But Tracy really saw
firsthand with Jim Harbor, you know. So, I mean I
think just looking at a track record of success, he
always that first year finds the way to kind of
(01:07:47):
change the culture, change the mood. So I am and
I get into think this is far more than what
these force books in last Vegas thing. I mean, like,
I think that this team is going to be a
playoff contendancy. I think that they will to be playing
meaningful games in December. I mean the big question for
them is wide receiver. I mean, you lose Keenan Allen
you lose Mike Williams. And I don't know if quote
(01:08:08):
Quinton Johnson is the guy. He's high on him. I
have not seen enough so far through camp and through
their one preseason game. We'll see where he dives. And
I have a lot of questions about some of the
talent that they have, but listen, at the very least,
Harbaugh has changed the culture.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Most important, and there is a Harbaugh effect.
Speaker 4 (01:08:29):
I mean, when he came to San Francisco, we had
a lot more talent on his side and that team
around immediately. And I think that was also the case
at Michigan. But there is a Harbaugh effect. And I
think we could say that he has been peak Harbaugh
thus far in press conferences. On the field, I mean,
do you think the players are responding to it? It
seems like they are, but do you feel like they
are responding to it?
Speaker 8 (01:08:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:08:52):
One.
Speaker 8 (01:08:53):
I mean the beautiful thing about it is that that
that he came in in there was that credibility, There
was that track record of success, whether it's college, whether
it's pro. You know that this guy wins. And so
by the way, yeah, his press conferences are amazing. I
mean I really enjoyed covering.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
I'm going to miss them so much.
Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
The Monday Michigan press conference was like the best day
of the week by far.
Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Must watch far.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Okay, so this week carbos that he offered Colin Kaepernick
a coaching job this season, but announce that he won't
be on the staff this year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
How did this come about?
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
And do you see Kaepernick getting back involved with the
NFL at some point?
Speaker 9 (01:09:33):
You know?
Speaker 8 (01:09:33):
I mean, the feeling was that if Colin Kaepernick did
did get into coaching or did get a job with
the team, it would probably be with someone who has
again a history with him. And then obviously with Jim
harbobbing he was his coach win that Colin Kaepernick took
to him so to the Super Bowl. So I get,
I don't know what Colin's goals are in terms of coaching,
(01:09:53):
but I have to imagine, I mean, if this is
something that he wants to do at some point, like
he would align himself with the former coach and a
team again that that he's familiar with a lot of
the coaches on that team. Again, Tracy does this very well,
Like you you're walking into a comfortable environment. Not only
Woul Jim Harbor but a lot of the coaches on
that team.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Okay, let's move to the other team here in La
Matthew Stafford was held out of practice after experiencing some
hamstring tightness. Now McVeigh said they aren't concerned and that
Stafford will return to practice this week. Is this something
the Rams should be worried about? Are they downplaying it
because of maybe his age and injury past.
Speaker 8 (01:10:34):
It's a little bit concerning because with a hamstring, you know,
depending on the severity of a nexted linger. The unique
thing about this they did bring in Jimmy Garoppolo, but
he is.
Speaker 2 (01:10:44):
Suspended the first two games.
Speaker 8 (01:10:46):
Two games, and then yes, he did have a wild comeback,
but also prior to that, he threw four picks in
the game, so you know, I know, yeah, No, I mean,
there is no own team that depends on the I mean,
there's probably some others. But when you look at how
poorly the Rams did following their Super Bowl win, it's
(01:11:08):
because Matthew Stafford was not healthy and could not be protected.
If Stafford is healthy, I think the Rams already playoff team.
If he's not.
Speaker 9 (01:11:15):
If he's can't.
Speaker 8 (01:11:16):
Be protected and he can't be himself, this is a
below to five hundred team.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
So what happens in weeks one and two with Jimmy
Garopfolo suspended? If Stafford is I mean, is it is?
It sets in and just hope for the best.
Speaker 8 (01:11:32):
Yeah, I mean yeah right now, but that I mean listen,
I was in the press box thinking like, okay, like
like if he throws another pick, and so he did.
He threw a fifth pick, but it got called back
on holding and that was sort of like the turning
point where but I don't think that there's a lot
of confidence, uh, if something were to happen. By the way,
(01:11:53):
both teams in Los Angeles very much struggling with their
backup quarterback position. Instant stick. You'll see him tonight, by
the way, you'll see both the back of quarterbacks tonight too,
not right back of quarterbacks.
Speaker 11 (01:12:07):
If I could just say it like that, And.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
I'm looking at the Rams first two games Lions, Lions
are going to come out with a lot to prove,
and then Cardinals like also, and then you have San
Francisco and then the Bears and then the Packers.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
Really tough, tough schedule out of the gates.
Speaker 4 (01:12:27):
You know, it is written in the stars for that
Game three against San Francisco for Garoppolo to have to start.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
Oh, jell out and just you know.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
What, out of the forty nine ers, that's favorite and
every single game.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
This I always liked Jimmy. I've covered Jimmy and I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
You just just feel he did He had a you know,
it was a hard breakfair and he was classy. He
was every step of the way. I mean, I kind
of think it would be amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
I'm sorry, guys, don't get me.
Speaker 10 (01:12:54):
So that's okay, conspiracy theory, Cynthia's we have Tracy.
Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
Yeah, I love a good conspiracy theory.
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
Okay, let's witch gears and talk about Lebron because he
was named the Olympic MVP for men's basketball. What did
his performance show the NBA world, in Laker fans, especially
in year twenty two, that he's still that dude?
Speaker 8 (01:13:14):
You know what, there was a couple of games there
where like Lebron and Danviity Davis were, you know, two
of the top players on the team, and if you're
a Lakers fan watching this, you're like, how the heck
can this team with two of the top players in
the world still you know, not be in this play
in tournament. I mean, I mean, how can they not
be a top four seed? How can they not be
(01:13:34):
contending for a title. So, you know, the only hope
is that maybe new.
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
Coach don't connect things.
Speaker 8 (01:13:41):
Well adult connect shoot a nice piece. But I mean
that was my number once I thought, Alex, I'm like
Lebron still Lebron, Yeah, and Hannedy Davis is still one
of the top five top to set ten players. So
if you have that, you should be contented.
Speaker 10 (01:13:54):
With no practice time with a new team, no, like
you can just walk into Paris and get a goal together,
like JJ Reddick figure it out.
Speaker 11 (01:14:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
So okay, is this Lakers team set up to make
another run at a title right now?
Speaker 9 (01:14:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:14:09):
I mean I'm currently constructed. I don't think the track
record is there for me to believe. And we've talked before,
like what success success for the Lakers as long as
you have those two guys is to win a title
has to be I mean, but like, I mean, this
was a team. I mean, here's my problem. Yeah, Delta
Tonight is coming back. I mean, that's coming back. But
(01:14:29):
he's the only major addition that they've made. They didn't
make a big sighting. They didn't make any big trades,
the big changes. JJ is the coach too. If we
all believe that JJ is this amazing future, you know,
great coach, that maybe that is the change. But on paper,
this does not seem to be a team that's going
to be that much more improved over a year ago
(01:14:49):
when they were in the play in tournament.
Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
Don't say that. Don't break that.
Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
I know right when the their schedule release came out
this week.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Don't don't crush my dreams.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
I'm gonna go in with like high hopes. Lebron looked great,
a d look great, like don't connect.
Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Maybe that shooter that they need that just like pure shooter.
I don't know. I'm I'm gonna go in. I'm gonna
go in with high hopes. That's what I'm gonna do. Rash,
I appreciate you so much. Thank you for coming on
the show.
Speaker 8 (01:15:18):
You're the best. We'll talk to you, Bye bye.
Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
All right, We're gonna take one more break here when
we come back our feel good story of the week.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to Fox
Sports Saturday. I'm Alex Curry here with Tracy Sandler and India. Right,
we are broadcasting live from the tark dot Com studios
in Los Angeles, and before we go, we like to
leave you with our feel good story of the week,
(01:15:41):
because you always got to end everything. I'm like a
high not it's been a party today. We're having a blast.
But what okay, I love this so much, you guys,
there's a couple different layers to this feel good. I
guess it's more of like, let me just get into
it instead of trying to explain.
Speaker 5 (01:15:59):
It has so much time.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
I so many things. Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
I love when we get to see our favorite players
also be fans. Right, And there were a couple different
things that I saw this week, And I'm gonna start
with Mike Trout, oh cute, posting a video looking for
his rookie card with his son. He bought some two
thousand and nine Bowman draft boxes to chase his rookie card,
(01:16:25):
and he had his camera set up with with his son,
and the first pack he opened, he ends up finding it,
freaking out and goes, we just pulled a monster baby,
and then his son freaks out. But like, also, how
on brand is that that, like Mike Trout would pull
his rookie card randomly in the first pack that he's
(01:16:46):
looking at because he's Mike Trout and he's one of
the greatest players of our generation.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Absolutely, and it was really adorable and there was just
something so pure and wholesome about it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Yes, I loved it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:56):
It was It's just so fun to see and you're
right when you see players being fans and the excitement
that we get.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
Yeah did he gets? Because we're all fans. That's why
we cover the sport. We love.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
We love the games, we love the stories, we love
the emotion, and when we get it from the players
or a little like inside, it's the best.
Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
And there was another one. In baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
Philly's pitcher mattch Strom shared that he buys a card
of every player who hits a home run off of
them and tries to buy their rookie card. He said
Freddy Freeman was like a little too expensive, that's fair,
But if they take him dee deep twice, then he
has to get an autograph on the card.
Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
I love so like he's like, that's like, okay, you got.
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
Me game or game respects game?
Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Yeah, game recognizing games all right.
Speaker 10 (01:17:45):
He doesn't want to forget who's been a hope and
so he's like I remember who.
Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
You are and will he's keeping tag.
Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
I didn't even think about it that way. That is
like full, like he has his book like playing tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (01:17:58):
Yes you got one at home, not again, not again
again today.
Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
I also love like how big like cards player cards
are still.
Speaker 9 (01:18:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:18:08):
I had a whole shop growing up as a kid,
and a whole yes, the whole shop of cards, and
I was like sold them or just like them, sold
them like mint kid. That's why like the mic Trout
thing was so cute, because I this little girl would
look through cards with my dad and yeah, the big
ones were like heavy laminated, heavy, protected and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
I'm like, Dad, sell these like it's two hundred dollars.
He's like, oh, absolutely not, it will be so much more.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
And I'm like they're they're going for like millions down.
I have I have a card. I have a signed
card that we've been holding on to. It's Patrick Mahomes,
Travis Kelcey, and Tyreek Hill Wow all together. No, it's
a one card with all of them and all of
their signatures on it.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
So that's my one card.
Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
I'm like, how much is that really worth now that
now that they're not all on the same team, but
you also have my homes and Travis Kelcey that antireka,
I mean still the top market. Someone at me at
Alex tell me, is this something I hold on to?
Is this something I shop around like it's it's the
(01:19:12):
one card that I have.
Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
I'm like, oh, this is kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
It is cool, like got it before like all the
Super Bowls and everything went down, So okay, that's a.
Speaker 5 (01:19:21):
Also, I just noticed my shirt is backwards.
Speaker 10 (01:19:24):
And inside outside having having Saturdays.
Speaker 5 (01:19:29):
We started with Ali falling drops.
Speaker 3 (01:19:31):
I started the show like literally falling out of my chair.
So we're having We're having a great day. And then okay,
I got one more here about like athletes being fans.
Shout out to the Olympic athletes who went and supported
the other athletes like Simone Biles when she was at
track and field with Snoop.
Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
Also like can everyone just can Snoop just beat like our.
Speaker 10 (01:19:53):
Sports Sunshine pocket you want to put them in your
pocket having a bad.
Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Day, Polly pocket yep, like Snoop pockets.
Speaker 4 (01:20:01):
Would love if you have the Manning cast. I'd love
to have like a Snoop cast for everything.
Speaker 5 (01:20:07):
She says, the first time she's ever sat and watched.
Speaker 8 (01:20:10):
That.
Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
And then the girls that were running track who saw
her there completely freaked out and fanned out in their
press are after, which was so cute. And then we
also had Lebron James who waded through a rain delay
to watch US women's beach volleyball. He also was at
most of the US women's basketball games along with his teammates.
I love that. Speaking of beach volleyball, if you're in LA,
(01:20:33):
we got the Manhattan Beach Open in Manhattan Beach happening
right now. Alex Climon April Ross are gold medal champions
from the last Olympics.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
It's gonna be wild. We'll be down there tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
If you see us, say hi, thank you so much
for spending your Saturday afternoon with us.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
I hope you had a great time, Have a safe,
fun weekend, and we'll see you guys soon.
Speaker 6 (01:20:55):
Bye ready, Bye,
