Sports Radio TYRAQLA Studios. Jmart down in Nashville. Jmart What
is up my man? How you doing?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm doing well, man. I woke up today in two
hours after that football was on TV. So yeah, I'm
doing pretty well.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
It is a glorious time.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
And listen, you know, I'll say this before we even
get into what was obviously a crazy afternoon, is it
was so good man, Like you know, and you know,
I was blessed enough to get away earlier this month
and I came back and it just really hit me,
like I am so ready to stop.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Like we've all what picked the football topic.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
It could be the Jets with Aaron Rodgers, it could
be Florida State, it could be whatever it is. We've
all had our take whatever it is since like march
on all these subjects, and it was just so nice
to get a result in the win column that mattered. Now, listen,
I'll say this, j Mart. We got to figure out

(01:28):
week zero a little bit better. Four games total. There
is kind of an interesting one in Reno right now,
as de Sega just told us the you know, the
Nevada Wolfpack potentially on upset alert leading SMU twenty four
to thirteen, about eight minutes to go. SMU is a
twenty four and a half point favorite in this one,
but it was just so good to have college football back, Jason.

(01:53):
Before we get to FSUG Tech, just any thoughts. You
said it, you woke up two hours later there was
foot Well, it was just so good man.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah. So my daughter, Claire Grace, my three year old,
she always says, Daddy, can I watch a program?

Speaker 4 (02:08):
And he said, hell no, girl.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Well, I literally like I kind of had to break
her heart a little bit today because she's kind of
had the run of it on weekend. Sure I can
do other things and stuff. And I was just like, honey,
in two hours, it's going to be a football program.
And she just kind of looked at me, and Mommy's
like it's that time of year again, dear, and I
was just like, yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah it is, y'all.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Go y'all, y'all, go take a walk somewhere, like, walk
through the neighborhood, Go find the fountains. I'm gonna be
over here watching this game in Dublin.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Y'all, go walk somewhere. That's the twenty twenty four theme song.
Let's get that printed out of a T shirt. No, man,
it's funny. My wife said the same thing. She's like, Oh,
I guess we're really here.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
But we are here.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
The big one was in Dublin. Georgia Tech Florida State.
Florida State came in as a ten and a half
point favorite. It did not go that way. By now
you know how it ended. But for people who did
not hear it, this is what it sounded like.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Not the soldiers, he's righty, set down for him, boot
it up, it's tumbling, it's turning.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
It is God.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
And the horn.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
Get the luck of the Irish. It's the heart of
the jackets, and Georgia Tech knocks off number ten Florida
State Finals four twenty four, twenty one.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
That was we assume it was Georgia Tech Radio Network.
But you heard the result, twenty four to twenty one.
Florida State came in as the tenth ranked team in
the country, Georgia Tech with the walk off field goal. Jason,
We'll get into this game, but let me just say this, man,
And I know we've said two or three times, but
it's like, for all we do, all this talking about
college football.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
The portal and ni Ellen, all this realignment.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And then the game start, first game of the year,
walk off, top ten team falls.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
It's cliche. This is just such an incredible sport, Jamark,
Yeah it is.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
And again it just it goes to show again. I mean,
these are young guys, Mistakes are made, things can be
very chaotic. A lot of stuff does turn out to
be chalk. We understand that, but there is just a
mess of possibility that can go into things. And without

(04:24):
getting into the nuts and bolts of the game, I
will say this, my initial feeling on this is week
zero in Dublin. There is nothing good about that. If
you were a fairly high ranked football team, especially one
that has some question marks, some new pieces and things
like that, that's such a weird place to go play.

(04:47):
You're not playing with a full schedule. You also know
everybody's eyes are on you. You're trying to gel. It's
just really odd. Play like that is not the way
I would want to start my season. I'm not trying
to make an excuse for Florida State. I'm just suggesting
that that would be one I would not want to
play in if I was a ranked football team in
Week zero.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, you know, And so a couple of things. One,
First of all, like you go back a couple remember
a couple of years ago. It was Nebraska, Yes Western,
and it was like Scott Fross, big year, he barely
survived the year before. Now you got to go over
yet and they end up losing, and it falls apart
from there. I'm with you, weird place to play, by
the way, the weather was kind of weird.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
But also to your.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Point, Jason, and listen, you know, you and I we
had plenty of conversations in December about Florida State. But
whatever we think about how last year ended, what is
indisputable is they lost a lot off last year's team,
and so you lose ten draft picks for the NFL. Obviously,
Jordan Travis was the starter until late in the year

(05:50):
and it's tough. But I'll also say this, Obviously we
have to give Georgia Tech credit. But the story to
me is Florida State. And so let's go ahead and
dive into that a little bit weird place to play,
tough place to play. By the way, we should do
the caveat J Mart that in this new twelve team
playoff era, this is not a season ender in any way,
shape or form. I think everybody knows. But the top

(06:11):
four teams, you know, the top four conference champions, I
should say, all get first round byes in that twelve
team playoff automatic bids as well. And so listen, if
Florida State, if they can shake this off, you know
they'll they'll be fine. I mean, the path is still
plenty ahead for them. But I also look at what
I saw on the field. Dju kind of is who

(06:34):
we've always known him to be, nineteen to twenty seven
passing one hundred and ninety three yards. But what stood
out to me, J Mart, Listen, I remember you and
I being on during that ACC championship game last year
Florida State lost.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
It was or Florida State one. Excuse me.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
It was ugly but you could see how much talent
they had on that defensive side of the football. They
gave up one hundred and ninety yards rushing as a
team five and a half yards per carry. On the
other side, they ran the ball for about three yards
per play. And what stood out to me more than
anything is that Florida State, whatever you think of how
last season ended, they had dudes all over the field,

(07:12):
especially on both lines. This year, they kind of got
punked at the line of scrimmage by Georgia Tech. So
Georgia Tech wins, But that was my big takeaway. Florida State,
this top ten team that we just assume is going
to be able to reload along the lines, they really
got pushed around on along the along the lines of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's a good take. You know.
We had Ian hit us up this is a game
was over. He's like, well, you guys are gonna have
plenty to say about this upset, And my response was,
this looked like it was gonna happen from the second quarter,
Like just watching the game and the way it was flowing,
I thought, you know what, Georgia Tech's probably gonna win
this game. Now, obviously they end up having to do
it on the kick at the end, but they seemed

(07:50):
to be the aggressor. Yep, they were forcing the issue.
Like dj U didn't throw a whole lot of incompletions,
but he also didn't throw anything five yards past a
lot of scrimmage. That was the thing. Like he was
the very definition of a game manager. And to your point, yes,
like he's fine, but he's not Jordan Travis certainly. And

(08:12):
at this stage you talked about how many dudes they
had last year. Well, all those dudes are playing on
Sunday now, yep, and I just don't think they are.
I already like we're gonna be doing a lot of
college football later on in this show. I don't like
what I saw today, but I was already kind of
skeptical about what this was going to look like this year.

(08:34):
One of the things that made last year so heartbreaking
for Florida State fans is that the chances of duplicating it,
We're going to be so difficult, because it did seem
like the acc was getting better around them, and they
had a magical mix of talent that was gonna be
very very hard to try and replace. And what I saw,

(08:55):
I understand it's week zero and weird things happen, Wonky
things happen, especially in Dublin, and may they go on
a run. I just don't see it for them this year.
Like I what I saw today didn't seem like it
was just playing in Dublin. It just seemed like a
team that doesn't have what it had last year.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, And I think that's my big takeaway is And
by the way, I don't think Florida State fans felt
this way, but I think you know, anybody that you
know wanted to have the reaction that you and I
are having. You know, it'd be easy to kind of
just dismiss of well, you know, I mean, it's a
twelve team playoff and if they make the if they
win the ACC, it doesn't matter. It's like, yeah, but
we can have bigger picture takeaways like yes, of course,

(09:35):
by definition, no one season in those Power for conferences
is over until they are eliminated from the conference championship race.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
I get that.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
But you start to extrapolate out the schedule Clemson first
week of October, Miami, who you know, I will talk
about later, but they are a much improved team top
twenty team on the road end of October, you have
at Notre Dame. And I'll say this, like even Florida,
like Florida by SEC standards isn't very good, but they

(10:03):
played them tough last year. You know, they obviously have talent.
So it's just like it's just easy to like dismiss
Oh yeah, I mean it's a twelve team playoff. Don't
don't overreact. It's like, yeah, but we can also extrapolate
out the season and if you get that, and it
wasn't like a you know, dju is generally a very
accurate quarterback. And he had three interceptions and two of

(10:26):
them were pick sixes. It was like the problems that
we saw today feel like problems that just don't get
solved over the course of cleaning something up or one
one film session or whatever.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Those seem like problems they are gonna go kind of
all season long.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, I mean, you're right, he played fine. He just
that's kind of who he is. He's just sort of
I mean, he's gonna be fairly even keeled. He's not
gonna be a disaster out there. But he's not a
game changing player. He's not a dynamic player. That's what
we saw at Clemson. That's why it went down the
way that it went down there. He's not some electrifying guy.
It's going to change your fortunes on a regular basis.

(11:03):
It just hasn't played out for him that way. He's
just kind of an average college football quarterback, which is fine,
except he came in with a lot more on him
than that. But you see, you know, this is his
third stop, and it's a it's got to be tough
for Florida State fans because they understand the downgrade at quarterback,
not not that dju. I know we're just dogging all

(11:26):
over him here, but I mean, he played fine, but
he got out played by Haines King, and just generally speaking,
when he had the ball, there was no real feeling
that he was about to do anything special with it.
He probably wasn't going to turn it over, but they
were probably gonna end up punting the football more often
than not.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
Also, there's some stats out there I forget.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
I don't know the exact set off to up my head,
but there's always teams that are ranked very high to
start the season that end up unranked outside the top
twenty five whatever, does this feel like one to you?

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Because it was funny.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
I was actually asked that on one of these you
know radio interviews that you know, we all do over
the course of a week where it's like, hey, you know,
for ten of the last eleven years, there's been a
team that's started in the top ten that finished unranked.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Florida State was that pick for me?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
And you know, I think there's other candidates, and we'll
talk about a lot of different teams here over the
next few hours. But like I said, I'm kind of
just rehashing what I just said, But one I was
a little bit lower on them coming into the year
than maybe most sounds like you were a little bit
lower too, But I, like I said with the guys
that I saw the other thing too, jays let me
even I'm totally pivoting out of nowhere, But I do

(12:33):
think the other thing that stood out to me is
they've been a team that's so portal heavy and portal reliant,
and I think it plays into the inability, you know,
the talent drop off. And I was thinking about this
while I watch the game, is like there is something too, like,
you know, we all love the portal and whatever.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
But all these great programs, no.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Matter who it is, we know who they are, Alabama, Ohio, State, Georgia, whatever, like,
they really don't go that portal heavy. And I was
thinking about that with Florida State of when you go
so portal heavy, sometimes there's gonna be years like last year,
you get Keon Coleman, you get a few other guys,
you know, and there were guys in the program already,
and everything clicks and everything's magical.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
But I also think there's something too. You can't rely
every single.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Year because I mean, you just think about all the
guys that they lost, and they I don't know, I
don't even where I'm going with this point. They just
look like a completely different team, I guess to the
point I was trying to make before, I don't think
this gets better. And I'm not ready to just say
they're definitively going seven to five and finishing outside the
top twenty five, but that was something I was thinking
about while I was watching this game.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
I would just say, I wouldn't say that they're necessarily
going to finish outside the top twenty five. I think
it's possible, but I think more than anything, I just
don't think they're going to be relevant to the CFP discussion.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Well, speaking of the CFP discussion, Jason, I'll tell you what.
We are going to come back and we're gonna give

Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Eric Torres Jason Martin broadcasting live from Thetireraq dot com studios.
Perfect segue music because just a moment ago we talked
about these stunning upset Georgia Tech beating Florida State on
a walk off field goal in Dublin. The number ten
team in the country falls on the opening day of
week zero. But now it is time to put aside

(15:52):
what happened on Saturday and look ahead to what will
happen this season. And since Mary set us up with rollout,
I think it's time to roll out playoff predictions, Jay Mart.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
So I'll tell you what. There's no perfect way to
do this. Why don't we just.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Go team by team? Seed by seed, you give yours,
I'll give a little reaction, I'll give you mine, and
we'll go from there.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
Before we do, by the way, should just let everybody know.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
I think everybody by this point understands how the playoff works.
But for people who do not remember twelve team college
football playoff kay, the top five highest strength conference champions
all get automatic bids, and the four teams that are
the highest STRENGTHD conference champions get first round bys. In

(16:39):
other words, if Georgia and Alabama are one and two
going into the SEC championship game, the loser of that
game will not get a first round by. And if
the winner of the ACC is seven and five Tech
Georgia Tech, they will be ranked ahead of any non
winner of a conference. So I hope that made sense.

(17:00):
But again, the first four seeds get buys, but it's
only for conference champions, J Mart. Start us off, who
is your number one overall seed? In the j Mart
twelve team college football Player.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
All Right, so we're going from we're going from the top.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
Then how else will we do it?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Well, we go from twelve.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Okay, go from twelve. I'll go from twelve. I'm down.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Do you want to got Memphis at twelve?

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
So Memphis, of course would be the fifth Again for
people who do not understand, the fifth conference champion of
the AAC kind of worth noting by the way Memphis plays.
Memphis plays Florida State in just a few weeks, so
potential upset potential there. But Memphis, of course, a season ago,
coming off a very solid year in the AAC in

(17:48):
which they won ten games, beat i With State in
a bowl game, Memphis at number ten or number twelve.
Excuse me, I'll go number twelve. I'll keep it quick,
hop it if you have any reaction. But number twelve
I do have the liberty flames.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yeah, I thought about it.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yes, So they went twelve and zero in the regular
season last year. Jamie Chadwell, for first year head coach,
took over for Hugh Freeze. They bring back a lot,
including Kateon Salter, who's their starting quarterback. They are my
highest ranked. They're my twelfth twelve team, fifth conference champion.
Who's at number eleven for you, Jason.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Could be a surprise because I think a lot of
people aren't as high on them as I am. But
I think it'll make sense as we get further on.
I got Tennessee at eleven, Okay, I think they're better
than people think, and I think what we saw today
may dictate that the ACC only gets one bid, and
even prior to that game, this is the way that

(18:42):
I had it set out, but this makes it easier
for me, So I think I think Tennessee is going
to sneak in at eleven.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Tennessee, weirdly, considering that they have a schedule that always
includes Alabama and Georgia does not have the toughest SEC
schedule by any stretch of the imagination. J Mart, I mean,
you've obvious DELT looked it up, but no Texas, no LSU,
no Old Miss, which is obviously a top ten team
coming into the year. I do not have Tennessee in

(19:09):
my top twelve, but I did have. I very seriously
considered them in that spot. So it's very interesting you
mentioned the ACC multiple bids. I'll say this at number eleven.
I don't feel great about it, but I do have
Clemson at number eleven. By the way, update from the
game going on right now, SMU has just taken the lead.

(19:32):
With a minute to go to SEGA give you updates
in just a moment. Back to my bracket, Jason, number eleven.
You know, I'll say this With Clemson, I don't I
don't love them, and I think there's big questions about
you know, listen all the questions that we've had all
offseason about this program, about how they're building their program.
But you start to get to you know, the third fourth,

(19:52):
fifth SEC team, he starts to get to the third fourth, fifth.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Big ten team. You know, I don't know what else
there is to say.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I just think someone is getting in outside of the
Power conferences as an at large candidate.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
So I'll go Clemson at number eleven.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
If you don't have.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Anything to add there, Jason, If you have anything to add,
feel free. If not, would love to hear who you
have at number ten.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
I got ole Miss at ten, so I got two
SEC teams in a row here. I think the roster's
pretty loaded, and you've got Jackson Dart. Some people have him,
you know, it's one of those kind of trendy keep
an eye out on him for the Heisman kind of deals.
I just think they've got too much talent to not
find a way to score a lot of points and
make their way in. They're one of the prime examples

(20:32):
of a one of those teams where it's like, boy,
if you had an expanded playoff, they would be interesting.
Like You've kind of had that debate a couple of
different times. But I think link if it's a really
solid coach and this is a year where because of
the expanded playoff, I could see them finding their way
in at ten.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
So that's interesting. I have Ole Miss and I'll discuss
them later in my bracket. At number ten, I have
another SEC team, and I think some people might be surprised.
Maybe you will be surprised. I'm curious for your take.
I'm a little I have them a little lower than
most Texas Longhorns, and I like Texas, but listen, it's cliche,
but I think there is something to the fact that

(21:10):
you're playing in the SEC. It's a week in, week
out grind, and they did lose it, like like because
they bring back Quinn yours. But listen, they lost two
first round caliber wide receivers. Avier Worthy, we know what
he's doing, Ady Mitchell, who's playing really well for Indianapolis.
They lost two really good defensive linemen, including a first
round pick. So I don't think they're falling off a

(21:31):
cliff and going seven and five. I don't think they're
going eleven and one and in Atlanta though.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Jason, Okay, I mean that's fair. I mean I'll be
talking about Texas here in a little while. Number nine
another one that I've seen several people leave completely out.
I had to pick one team from this conference in
addition to the one that I have winning this conference
at least one, and I am gonna go with mister

(21:56):
Moore over mister Franklin and say that Michigan's going to
get in nine and not Penn State.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
Well, j Mart, I got Michigan at number nine. How
do you like that? Mapple?

Speaker 2 (22:08):
All right, yeah, same team, same concept, And if you
have anything to add, please feel free. But my thought
is exactly your thought is there's going to be multiple
Big ten teams. I think Michigan, like the culture, will
be good enough. By the way, they don't play Penn State.
And I'll say this, Jason, I think I'm where you
are is I think this is as much of a

(22:31):
bet against Penn State as it is in favor of Michigan.
Will you and I speak the same language on Penn State.
Until James Franklin proves he can win the games that matter,
I'm out. So I have Michigan at number nine as well.
J Mart give us number eight and then we'll switch
over to Saga and then we'll finish out our brackets here.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
I got Bama at eight. Okay. I mean they've they've
got a boatload of talent. Milroe can really play, But
I just think they're gonna lose a couple along the way.
Like I think they're certainly going to be very good,
I just don't. It's just a lot to ask for
Kaylen to Boord to step into that role any sec
being even more difficult this year with the new additions

(23:11):
and everything else. I still think an eight it's a
pretty solid place for them to be. But that's where
I've got them slotted.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Don't want to get ahead of ourselves when we break
down our bracket. We got a little Rose Bowl rematch. Yeah,
Michigan and Alabama. I'll be quick on this, a team
that you probably have in your bracket at number eight.
I do have Notre Dame. I don't love them, but
the schedule breaks very nicely. They open against Texas A
and M. By the way, the only other two ranked
teams that they have on their schedule at least as

(23:39):
of right now one is Florida State at home. We
all got our days to Florida State today and then
they close with USC. So a very manageable schedule for
Notre Dame. So we have made it not as far
along in the bracket as we wanted to, but it's okay.
We got two and a half more hours to continue
to break it all down, so we are through number eight.
We'll get back look at the rest of our brackets
and then tell you how we have it all played out.

(24:01):
Before we get back to our brackets. Though, number one
seed overall and all of our brackets. Oh my god,
though such a bad teas Steve de Seger, what's up, buddy.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Good evening to you both.

Speaker 10 (24:10):
It's a great day that we're at least getting some football,
and it's also a great day because the NFL exhibitions
are ending this week. By the way, the Nevada Wolfpack,
a team that had the lead tonight. Yeah, that's past
tense had the lead tonight. We'll update that in the moment.
But Nevada last season was a two to ten team
and one of the wins was by a six nothing

(24:32):
score at San Diego State. They opened last season at
USC and Nevada lost sixty six fourteen. They're opening this
season at home and had a lead with under ten
minutes to go against SMU twenty four thirteen. SMU has
scored sixteen unanswered points in about the last eight minutes
of this game. Touchdown safety, another touchdown, missed the two

(24:55):
point pass, so it's SMU twenty nine twenty four under
one minute to go. The late game in a half
an hour will have Hawaii hosting Delaware State. Earlier today
on alf AS one, Montana State with a comeback at
New Mexico thirty five thirty one. The Lobos had two
touchdowns on fumble returns led thirty one fourteen going to

(25:16):
the fourth but despite new coach Bronco Menden Hall, it's
an l because Montana State picked up three touchdowns in
the fourth quarter. Thirty five thirty one the final and
then there's the game you referenced in Dublin, Georgia Tech
twenty four to twenty one over Florida State on a
forty four yard field goal on the final play. Georgia
Tech had missed from fifty one yards out early in

(25:36):
the third quarter. By the way, in that stadium in Dublin,
a couple of years ago, it was Northwestern beating Nebraska.
Last year was Notre Dame dominating against Navy, and then
next year it's supposed to be Kansas State versus Iowa State.
I have read that in twenty twenty seven there in Dublin,
same stadium, it will be pit against Wisconsin. Most teams

(25:58):
open next weekend for the twenty two twenty four college
football season. The first game on Fox TV is Thursday,
North Carolina at Minnesota. Updating the late game in the
NFL Exhibitions Tonight, it's at Seattle Seahawks twenty four to
ten over Cleveland. Seattle has scored on a fifty six
yard run on a putt return of seventy nine yards,

(26:18):
Jason Myers with a fifty eight yard field goal, and
there was an early TD pass at Seattle from Gino
Smith to dk Metcalf twenty one yards, so yeah, twenty
four to ten Seattle and Deshaun Watson. Brown's quarterback is
out again. Tonight still hasn't played in a game since
last November. He had shoulder surgery. Jets ten six over
the Giants Jets defense with eight sacks. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers

(26:41):
and Jets starters did not play. The Jets went three
and oh in the preseason, though Minnesota went three and
oh in the preseason after a win at Philadelphia or
whoever was wearing those uniforms twenty six to three the final,
and Detroit down Pittsburgh twenty four to seventeen. So for
the record, Pittsburgh goes oh to three. The preseason, the
Browns traded defensive tackle Chris Williams to the Bears. NASCAR's

(27:04):
four hundred was at Daytona Tonight, a win by Harrison Burton,
and he only led the final lap. Kyle Busch finished
second WNBA Connecticut and Minnesota with wins. I believe it
is impossible to give a WNBA update without Yukon mentions.
Is just for the record. Brianna Stewart fifteen points, fifteen
rebounds as Connecticut won at New York and the FISA

(27:26):
Collier with thirty one points, as Minnesota clinch to playoffs
but beating Indiana ninety to eighty. Caitlin Clark in the
lost twenty three points, eight assists, seven turnovers. The Dodgers
are going for a sixth straight win. They had the
lead past tense. The Rays have tied it up. The
game is seven to seven at Dodger Stadium as Tampa

(27:46):
Bay gets a run in the eighth and a run
in the ninth. They're going to the bottom of the
ninth right now. Shohe Otani had given LA the lead
with his forty first home run of the season. The
Mets beat San Diego seven to one. Wins for Cleveland,
Minnesota and Philadelphia which one at Kansas City eleven to two.
J t ral mutto seven. RBIs back to you.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Thank you very much, Steve the Sager.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
This is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday or tourist
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the tyreck dot Com studios.
We are giving our official college football playoff final brackets
top twelve teams that we believe will be in the postseason.
We are through number eight. I have twelve, Liberty eleven,
clems In ten, Texas nine, Michigan eight, Notre Dame jmart

(28:31):
Has twelve, Memphis eleven, Tennessee ten, Ole, miss nine, Michigan eight,
Bama jmart Who you got at number seven, take it
away Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Same reason that you mentioned having them in the number
eight spot. I just kind of feel like they're going
to be there the way that their schedule sits. I
really like Riley Leonard. It just feels like, again, the
culture is right there. Like I like Freeman. Last year
was a little bit of a letdown from what maybe
it looked like it could have been at the beginning
of the Sea And I just kind of think it

(29:01):
breaks for Notre Dame this year as opposed to against them.
So I've got them at seven.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Absolutely a team that you know, I think they're a
small underdog next week at A and M. Could see
them losing that game, could see everybody freaking out, could
see them, you know, ripping off six to seven eight
in a row, no problem. Number seven a team that
I mentioned earlier that you already had in your brackets,
so we already talked about him. Don't need to spend
a ton of time on them. The ole miss rebels
everything that you said. I agree with lan Kiffin's really good.

(29:29):
I mean, reinvented himself. This is a good team. They
still have Georgia on the schedule, they still have a
couple of tough games. I don't know that they get
to Atlanta as the SEC representative SEC runner up, but
I have them at number six.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Who you got at number at number seven? Excuse me?
Who you got at number six?

Speaker 3 (29:45):
J mart I've got Texas there. I think this is
closer to where most people have them. I do think
there will be a blemish two along the way, but
it's a good football team. Feels like Sarkisian has put
a lot of his past troubles behind him. I like
what you've got at quarterback obviously, and they've just done

(30:06):
a nice job recruiting generally and what they've brought in
talent wise. You're right they've lost a lot, but that
just didn't feel like a fluke to me last year.
That felt like the beginning of something. I think they're
going to come in and do very well in their
first season the SEC.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
So we're basically on the same page in the SEC.
You know, I had Texas a little bit lower, yet
text a little bit higher. I have Bama at number
six as my SEC runner up schedule is tough, there's
no doubt about it.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
At LSU at Tennessee, Georgia at home.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
But you know, Galen to board, listen, this guy what
twelve and zero, you know, fourteen and one? Really winning
factor in the postseason, and he's gonna have a better
roster this year, like he just is, and so there's
gonna be losses. I think everybody in this era is
going to take losses, but I think he does enough
to get to Atlanta. You can probably guess who I
have him losing to, which we will discuss here in just.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
A little bit.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
Who you have Who do you have at the number
five spot?

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Jamart, Here's one I think a lot of people will
disagree with. I have Ohio State at five. They could
easily be number two on this list. But honestly, this
is similar to how I feel about Searon Moore compared
to James Franklin. I just like another coach in that
conference more than I like Ryan Day at least. And
here's the big reason why I think that the early

(31:24):
game in Eugene is going to be won by Oregon,
and I think that's going to carry the Seeds later
on in the season.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Number five, I have the Ohio State buckets. I'm in
the same boat. Listen.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
You know, listen.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
And I was actually talking to Bertie Fratto about this yesterday.
I called him to ask him a couple questions about
Michigan and we got into an Ohio State conversation. Listen.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
I get how good the roster is. I get that
Chip Kelly.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
Is now your play caller, but Ryan Day still got
you know, Ryan Day's got to make the big decisions
in the big moments. And Dan Lanning Listen, I know
he hasn't had those big wins yet. He's fear I
love them. I still have my questions about Ryan Day,
which we'll discuss as we break down the bracket further.
But I have Ohio State as the Big ten runner
up at number five.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Who do you have at number four?

Speaker 3 (32:10):
J Martin process of elimination ACC champion Clemson? Okay, I
don't think of there anywhere near the number four team
if you're just on paper looking at it. But I
think Florida State's not going to be relevant. I think
you look at maybe NC State, Like, if NC State
can beat Tennessee earlier in the year, maybe that carries
them on. But I just feel like everybody else is

(32:31):
just going to be, you know, up and down. So
just because of that, somebody has to win that conference.
And I'll take Clemson there all right.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
I will get to my ACC champion in a minute.
But at number four, I do have the Big Twelve
champion Utah. Utes don't know what you have in the
Big Twelve, but I listen, I'll just be quick Utah.
I mean listen, they won eight games last year with
a third string quarterback the entire year. Kyle Whittingham is
that dude. I know the conference is new, I know
the conference will be tough, but I Utah winning the

(33:00):
Big Twelve.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
I got Utah at three for exactly what you just said.
I don't need to add anything to it. I think
cam Rising's gonna come back and be really really just
special this year because I know how tough that was
for him last year, just having to sit there and
watch after the year that he had had prior, and
the fact that there it doesn't matter who's there. It
just seems like Kyle winning aam's gonna win games, and

(33:24):
the same thing's going to be true here. I think
Utah is gonna be really good all year.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
So I'll throw a little curveball at my number three.
It is the ACC champion. I actually have the Miami
Hurricanes and listen. For people don't follow this on a
day to day basis. Mario Crystaball has loaded up that roster.
Kim War transfers in from Washington State, twenty six touchdown
passes a year ago, Damian Martinez really good running back.

(33:48):
They've recruited well on the lines. I know the criticism
of Mario Christaball it is that, you know, does he
win enough big games? Listen, he won two pac twelve championships.
I don't trust him against you know, the in Kirby
Smart's of the world, but I think he's just gonna have.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
More talent than everybody else.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Yeah, I definitely could see that. Number two. I've got Oregon.
I got Oregon beating Ohio State early, and that can
play into more later because I do think they will
match up more than once during the season, certainly. But
I just I like Dan Lanning more than I like
Ryan Day. I like his attitude and I like the
culture that he creates in the aggressive nature, and I

(34:25):
think that's gonna be the difference maker. So I've got
Oregon in their first season the Big Ten, winning that conference.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
I do as well. Because we're short on time, I
won't add anything. I can probably guess who your number
one overall seed is sec champ. I'm guessing it's not
Kentucky or Vanderbilt.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Is that fair saying?

Speaker 8 (34:40):
No?

Speaker 3 (34:41):
I thought about it, but I decided to go with Georgia.
Shut up, Carson Beck prove last year he was really good.
Rosters still loaded. Kirby smart knows what to do on
game day. I don't know what else I need to
say here. I mean, their roster's still the best in
the country, so I'll take them.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
I got Georgia at number one.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
I'll tell you what will come back, j mart we
will go and give our official bracket picks. Twelve team
college football Playoff. That's next Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio Aeron Torris, Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the tyrack dot Com studios. We are
going through our twelve team college football Playoff bracket.

Speaker 4 (35:23):
I'll tell you what JAMRT.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
For brevity's sake, why don't you give me your first
round selections and I'll set up j Marts bracket. He
has the five seed. Remember, top four seeds get a buye.
So he has the twelve seed Memphis at the fifth
seed Ohio State eleven seed Tennessee at six seed Texas,
which is a fun one, ten seed Old Miss at
Notre Dame, and then the rematch of the Rose Bowl

(35:47):
Michigan Bama. Why don't you go ahead give me your
first round playoff selections?

Speaker 7 (35:51):
All right?

Speaker 3 (35:52):
I got Alabama over Michigan and w should be a
great football game. I have Ohio State over Memphis. That
one wasn't too hard to If it was Liberty, I
would still feel the same way. I've got Old Miss
over Notre Dame. That's where you're gonna see. The score
just be too much for Notre Dame, I feel like.
And then I've got Texas over Tennessee and what should
be a great football game?

Speaker 2 (36:13):
All right, So really quickly here, I'm just taking some quick,
quick quick notes. Hold on one second, so Texas would
be playing you, okay.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
All right, cool?

Speaker 2 (36:23):
So I will continue mine I have in the in
this round, I have Michigan at Notre Dame. I do
have Michigan. I guess you would call it a pseudo upset.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Listen.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
I still think they're gonna be nice, physical along in
the trenches. Don't think they're great, but I think the
matchup works out nicely for them. Ohio State is the
five seed, takes care of Liberty. Old Miss versus Texas
is my seven to ten matchup. That's at Ole Miss shootout.
I'll take Old Miss to beat Texas, and then how
about this one in an eleven six matchup at Bryant

(36:55):
Denny Stadium. I would have Clemson facing Alabama your quarter finals,
j Mart, I have most of them written down and
beating Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, and then Old And
then I'm kind of tripping over here.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Oregon, Old Miss Okay in Texas, Utah, Okay, go ahead
later on me, great ball games. I got Georgia beating Bama. Okay,
Ohio State over Clemson again. Clemson's kind of fugesi at four,
but somebody has to win the ACC So I've got
Ohio State there, I got Oregon over Old Missing Man.
That's gonna be fun. And then Texas over Utah. So
that's my final four of them being Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
All right, I got a few upsets here in the quarterfinals.
I do have Georgia as the one seed beating the
nine seed Michigan, the game we all wanted last year
didn't get it. We get it this year. This is
an upset. I got Utah beating the Ohio State buck guys.
Ohio State's talented Michigan. Utah is tough, so we'll see
if that happens. Alabama playing the third seed Miami Hurricanes.

(37:57):
I actually have Alabama. I don't know if it'd even
be considered an upset, but beating Miami. And I have
Oregon overall miss So my semi finals are Oregon, Bama, Georgia, Utah.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
J Mart, Who do you got in your final four?
Winning those games?

Speaker 3 (38:12):
All right? I got Georgia versus Ohio State. I got
Ohio State. Oh my goodness, let's let's easy there, fellow
Ohio State. I've got them winning this game. And then
I've got in Oregon Texas, which I hope that happens
because I want to see it. I've got Texas beating Oregon.
Oh wow, So my final is going to be Ohio

(38:33):
State Texas in a in a in a barn burner
of a game.

Speaker 2 (38:38):
I'll tell you what, that's a great helmet game, two
iconic brands. My final four kind of boring because I
got Georgia against Utah, Oregon against Alabama. I got Georgia
beating Utah Oregon Alabama. So my one in two seeds
to advance Georgia versus Oregon. J Mart, who do you
have is your national champion?

Speaker 3 (38:56):
I've got proof of concept? Okay, as my national champion.
Twelve team playoff? What would be the best storyline imaginable?
One of the teams that wouldn't have qualified in a
year past winning it. I've got five versus six in
my final, and I've got six winning at all. I
am taking a little bit of a flyer. I think

(39:18):
Sarkisian and Texas shockingly are going to win the national championship.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Listen, plenty of talent there.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
I am not going to argue at all with that,
because sark has proven to be a great coach, like
you said, you know, revived his career. I have Georgia
over Oregon. I went so back and forth on this one.
You know, I really think Oregon is actually really a
pretty complete team. But I look at Georgia and here's
the crazy part about Georgia. We think about the defense.

(39:44):
This that you mentioned the name earlier, Carson Beck. People
are talking about him as the number one overall pick.
You know, they had the fifth rank total offense last year.
People again, people think of the defense. I just don't
think this team would be slowed down. I have Georgia
over Oregon as my national champion.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
Jmartin, I can't disagree. That's chalk, but that is college
football atmspray boring. I went proof of concept and you went, yeah,
we don't need a twelve team playoff.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Jmart has Texas over Ohio State. I have a SEC
over Big ten Georgia Oregon. Tell you what, Jamart, that
was a lot of fun. We'll come back Switch Gears,
NFL a lot to discuss.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (40:26):

Speaker 4 (40:55):
Our one was all college football.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
We talked about out the stunner in Dublin, Georgia Tech,
the walk off field goal to beat tenth ranked Florida State.
Then we gave our college football twelve team playoff brackets,
our national champions runners up, all that your conference champions.
If you missed any of that, make sure to go
back and download the podcast. We'll also revisit a lot

(41:21):
of college football in our three at one am Eastern Time.
By the way, in baseball to Sega, was just telling
you about that Dodgers game. It is final as they
lose in extras at home against the Race. Let's switch gears, though,
j Mart from the college game to the NFL. And

(41:41):
as I was getting ready for the show today, listen.
You know last day, as we said basically of the preseason,
preseason cannot end fast enough. You know, a couple guys
played today, but for the most part we know what
we're seeing. But I'll tell you this. I saw this
piece of news as I was coming in today, and
you just talk about one devastating piece of news for

(42:03):
a team that simply can seemingly cannot afford to take
any more bad news. The Dallas Cowboys, so Deron Bland
stress fracture in his left foot, kind of complained of
some pain in that foot earlier in training camp. They
do the test, whatever comes back, he has a stress

(42:26):
fracture in that left foot. He is out six to
eight weeks, probably keeping him out till probably essentially, you know,
mid to late October. And this is a team that
is obviously kind of in a make or break year.
We know that they've had the regular season success, we
know that they have at the same time also had

(42:46):
the postseason disappointments.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
And you look at the front end of that schedule.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
You know, Week three they play Baltimore at home, and
by the end of October they will have also played
Detroit at San Francisco. First week of no November, they're
at Atlanta at Cleveland as well. There's no breaks, and
for an organization that just just you know, again they
they haven't gotten any breaks so far all off season.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
This is just more devastating news.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
It is, and you just get the sense that it's
gonna be a tough year in Dallas. It just got
guys looking for money. You have the wrong kind of
stories all off season long, and now you've got this
on top of you have an all pro cornerback that
you're absolutely going to need the conference. And you've still

(43:35):
got Daniel Jones, so that's a win. But you also
inherited Jaden Daniels, so you're gonna have him, You're gonna
have Jalen Hurts, and you're gonna be in a bunch
of tight games most likely because you're the Cowboys, and
that's just how it works. It just it doesn't look good.
It looks like a lost season before it even starts.
I know that is just crazy overreaction, but hey, we're

(43:57):
doing over unders on that division a little bit later
on in the program, So don't want to give away
what we're gonna do there. But this is the last
thing a Dallas Cowboys fan needed to hear, you know,
right before the regular season kicks off.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
Well, and that's why I wanted to talk about it
is we will do our over unders on the NFC
East and the NFC North here in just a moment
the other side of the break. But why I want
to talk about it is. It's just been such a
weird offseason in Dallas. By the way, Ceedee Lamb. We
all know in contract negotiations, the reports are that the
Cowboys were ready to make them the second highest paid
wide receiver in the league.

Speaker 4 (44:33):
That wasn't good enough.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
He did the whole social media Instagram Twitter post where
he's working out and you know, the doubters hate me,
and you know, I'm ready when when they're ready.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
And so it's just a weird year. And I'm with
you on them. Is that?

Speaker 2 (44:48):
And again we'll do the over under officially here in
just a few minutes. But I just look at them
and sometimes like sometimes you just you know, you just
know before you know, and you look at this team,
is that there's just so much noise. And then I
think the other thing j Mart, which I know has
been a conversation, but nothing very obvious that was done

(45:10):
in the off season to improve the team. Now they
had a couple, you know, a couple of their draft
picks are are playing well early.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
In camp, especially along the old line.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
They drafted Tyler Geyton in the first round out of Oklahoma,
and the reports are that Cooper bebe a third round
pick is going to be a starter along the offensive
line as well.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
But it's just one of those things.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
And I know it's been a narrative all off season,
but it is worth revisiting because we are now, you know,
two weeks for tomorrow, we're kicking games off Ceedee Lamb
has not been at basically anything all off season. You know,
Michaeh Parsons is having to answer all sorts of questions
about his podcast. Is he's spending too much time on
his off the field interest. Obviously, Dak has his own

(45:50):
things to prove, Mike McCarthy has his own thing to prove.

Speaker 4 (45:53):
And I think the big thing that.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Stands out though, is that again it's not as though, hey,
you're dealing with Dak, you're dealing with CD and whatever.
But you had this otherwise awesome offseason where yeah, you
added two or three impact guys that we know we're
gonna play in the draft, and the free agency period
was awesome, and uh, you know, the running back position
is figured out. Let me ask you, like, like, do

(46:16):
you feel like what do you think is going through
Jerry Jones's mind right now? And the only reason I
ask is because you know, There's been all sorts of
narratives that is he trying to you know, not put
Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 4 (46:29):
I don't want to say not in a position to succeed.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
But basically kind of a hey, you know, we're not
gonna give you any extra tools in the toolbox.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
You got to go figure it out.

Speaker 2 (46:36):
But then I've heard the same thing with Dak is that, hey,
you know, we're not in a rush to sign CD
because we want to see what you Look, what do
you think is actually going through Jerry Jones's mind this
offseason as this roster came together, and the issues that
that that were you know, obvious even two three months ago,
are still prevailing now.

Speaker 3 (46:55):
Yeah, it's tough to say he can't feel that good
about it. I mean there've been times when I don't
know what he says publicly sometimes I don't know if
it replicates the way it feels privately, Like inside, he
has to know this is not a team that's going
to be contending for a Super Bowl, and I know
he cares about winning a lot. He can be kind
of stubborn. He can also hang on to people a

(47:17):
little bit too long. I don't think Mike McCarthy's taking
you to the promised Land. I never did. Did you
just pull the same thing that the Chargers did, just
throwing a year away? Yep? And and maybe next year
you're gonna have a new coach and a new quarterback.
I don't know. But I can't sense or I can't
I don't see where he would get the confidence or

(47:38):
the optimism just if you just look at it. I
don't feel like you have to do deep, deep level
analysis to see all the red flags and warning signs
of a team that is set up to be five
hundred or maybe even worse.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Let me let me throw a curveball at you with
a different team there actually playing right now. Because this
is a guy I know you have a lot of
opinions on. But Deshaun Watson's supposed to play tonight final
preseason game for the Cleveland Browns. They're currently playing in Seattle,
and Kevin Stefanski earlier this week said that he expected

(48:17):
all of the starters that were available to play, and
at the time the thought was Deshaun Watson was going
to be involved in that. But of course we have
arm soreness. You know, there was a there was a
shoulder issue last year, and of course we all know
team got red hot with with Joe Flacco in the
lineup after Deshaun Watson went out with injury. What do

(48:40):
you make of this guy? I know what we think
of him as a dude, but you know this is
a guy.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
We talk about all these quarterback contracts, Trevor Lawrence, this
two of that, Sean Watson most guaranteed money of the
history of the NFL, and I think it's pretty safe
to say has not lived up to that contract so far.

Speaker 3 (48:58):
No, and I don't see anything changing. I just I
feel like the Browns are a really good football team
that still needs a quarterback, and they've needed a quarterback
seemingly forever. But you look at it, you know, you
go with Deshaun Watson, you get rid of Baker Mayfield.
And I think Baker Mayfield this point is a better
player than Shaun Watson. It's wild, that's crazy, it really is.
Like I said it, and I didn't say it with

(49:19):
any hesitation, like I didn't have to. I've got a
caveat this No, Like I just I would rather have
Baker Mayfield at this point than Deshaun Watson. Not just
for the baggage, but the baggage plays into it. It
has to. I think what we're looking at is a
thirty for thirty in a couple of years on how
even the comeback attempt after everything that went down failed

(49:42):
miserably and the Browns look worse and worse by the day,
because I mean, Joe Flacco outplayed the guy last year.
Like you think about it, all the way across the board,
they had everything that you want. They've got receivers, they've
got an incredible running back, they've got an awesome defense,
they got a head coach this forward thinking offensively, they

(50:03):
had everything that you want except for a quarterback that
you could trust. So they end up with a dude
that I didn't even know he was ever going to
be in the league again, and he's out there, Deshaun
Watson at best at the he's lost a step and
a half. He just doesn't feel like the same player.
And it doesn't feel like this is a rust issue anymore.
This just he stayed away so long and he came

(50:26):
back and it felt like the field had already lapped him.
And he just has not been consistent in any way,
shape or form.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
Since yeah, no, And let's and I think everybody remembers,
but for people who don't, you know, set out that
entire season. First off, remember there was the weird trade demand,
which I'll be blunting. I never understood that the Texans
are not you know, certainly not. They weren't the most
you know, well run organization at the time. But it

(50:53):
was also you know, they were making the playoffs every
year with him at quarterbacks. So he sits out, then
obviously all the off the field stuff happens, then there's
a suspension, and so it has just been very weird.

Speaker 4 (51:04):
And then again to the point that.

Speaker 2 (51:05):
You made jmart I think, like I don't want to
say it's easy to forget, but six games played for
him last year, eleven hundred yards passing, seven touchdowns, four interceptions.
Joe Flacco five games played, sixteen hundred yards passing, thirteen touchdowns,
eight interceptions. And so you know, listen, I know Flacco
was a little bit of a flash in the pen,
you know, da da da da da, you know whatever.

(51:27):
But I bring it up because he was not good
last year and now you got whatever this this this
shoulder thing is he's supposed to play he's not playing.
What does it mean again? The Browns are in Seattle,
playing right now, the final preseason game of their preseason,
and it's just like it's just one of those weird deals.
And then I think the other thing that's obvious is,

(51:48):
you know they were able to make a run last year,
but you know, weird quarterback situation.

Speaker 4 (51:52):
That division is so tough.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
You know, we know who Baltimore is, if Joe Burrow's
healthy whatever, even the Steelers like. And we'll talk about
the whole weird situation with the Steelers later. Mike Tomlin
is not committing to either quarterback right now.

Speaker 3 (52:06):
Really strange, but they but they play hard.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
Every week and if you don't show up, you know,
they're coming off a ten and seven year I don't
think they're gonna be great, but they'll play it tough
if you don't show up to play. And it's like
the Browns are just in this weird spot where I
just I have no idea what to expect from them
this season.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
No, I mean I really don't either. I think that
they have all that you want, but they're in the
wrong division and they just the quarterback situation being so
just Caddie Wampus, which is something my wife likes to
say a lot.

Speaker 4 (52:36):
What does that mean?

Speaker 3 (52:37):
It just means off, Gilter, Sure, it just means it's
just not right generally. I just if you don't have
a quarterback going into this league, especially in a division
that's got Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, that's gonna be
tough for me to feel too good about you.

Speaker 4 (52:54):
I don't disagree.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
Cleveland Brown's, by the way, are playing again in Seattle
twenty seven thirteen.

Speaker 4 (53:00):
The score in the third.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
Quarter to Shaun Watson sits out, even though again Kevin
Stefanski had said earlier in the week that the expectation
was that all of the starters would play. Fox Sports

the AFC, given our official picks for all sixteen teams

(53:46):
in that conference. We'll come back and we'll talk NFC,
starting with the NFC East. Four fascinating teams, and we're
gonna break it all down next. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (53:58):
Welcome back, everybody.

(54:45):
time talking all fall things football today.

Speaker 4 (54:47):
It's great. Talked to week zero.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
In hour one, we will revisit college football, but we're
talking NFL now. Over the last two weeks, we have
started going team by team, division by vision and giving
over under win total picks and predictions for all thirty
two teams in the league. We have done the entire AFC.

(55:10):
Today we switch gears to the NFC. Let's start with
the NFC East. Mary, give us some music producer, Ian,
who are we starting with? We are starting with the
Philadelphia Eagles. Who's over under is set at ten and
a half wins?

Speaker 7 (55:25):
What do you think?

Speaker 4 (55:25):
Erin?

Speaker 2 (55:26):
So, I'm gonna say something a little controversial, because you know,
I'm not a big Nick Sirianni fan. Apparently nobody is,
including Jalen Hurts. But that's neither here nor there. But
I look at the Eagles, and for all the chaos
of a year ago, they did end up going eleven
and six.

Speaker 4 (55:45):
And so you look at the schedule.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
It is by no means easy, but it doesn't feel
as hard as you would think that a schedule would
be of that magnitude. You look at the front end
of the schedule, Saints, Bucks, Browns. We just talked about
the chaos there New York Football Giants. I think there's

(56:07):
eleven wins on this schedule. Back half, he got the Panthers,
the Steelers obviously, the Commanders and the Giants. Again, I
don't know that I feel great about it. You know,
I'm going under.

Speaker 4 (56:19):
Forget it.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
I was gonna go over. I'm going under. And that
was a last minute pivot. I will say ten and
seven in the under, I.

Speaker 3 (56:26):
Got them eleven and six. I think they lose to
Green Bay in Brazil, then they're gonna beat the Falcons
and then go four and one in their next five.
I think they'll lose to Cincinnati on the road. Then
they'll go two and two and split losing to the Rams,
and actually I think they're gonna lose against the Commanders
and then they're gonna win their last five. So I
think other than December first at Baltimore, they're gonna they're

(56:49):
gonna finish strong. And that's where I have them just
a half game over at eleven and six. Very good.

Speaker 7 (56:54):
What do you got next to you in Dallas? Cowboys
over under nine and a half wins? What do you
think erin listen, we just talked about the Cowboys. You know,
what do they say about pornography? You know, when you know,
you know whatever that's saying.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
No, when you see it, you know it when you
see it.

Speaker 2 (57:11):
Well, when there's a chaotic situation in professional sports, you
know when you see it. And the Dallas Cowboys, listen,
it's a combination of self inflicted stuff. You know, Dak
wants a new contract, CD wants a new contract, Michael
Parsons wants a new contract. But then also there's just
some flat, some flat bad luck. We just talked about
Deron Bland in the last segment. He is out probably

(57:33):
until the end of October. And I'll tell you what
schedule is. You know, listen, the Cowboys are America's team.
It's a pretty it's not an impossible schedule, but it's
tough in the early middle parts.

Speaker 4 (57:46):
We just talked about it.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
No, darn Bland, and you're playing the Ravens early, You're
playing the Lions mid November or mid October. You're playing
the forty nine Ers late October. He could be out
for all of that.

Speaker 4 (57:57):
Ceedee lamb.

Speaker 2 (57:57):
We don't know when he's gonna be back. I gotta
go under the win total there.

Speaker 3 (58:02):
Yep, me too. You said nine and a half. What's
funny is I don't. I didn't look at the over
under numbers at all. I just actually went through the
schedule and put together a record. And I've been half
on one side and half on the other here because
I've got them nine and eight. I got them opening
up too and two and then going two and four
over their next six. I think they lose to Detroit.
I think they're gonna lose on Sunday night football at Pittsburgh.

(58:23):
That's just a tough place to play. And then Philadelphia
and Houston are gonna get them, and then they're gonna
finish strong, similar to Eagles. I got them five and
two losing to the Giants and the Commanders, Uh, just
because that's the kind of thing that happens in that division.
So I've got them nine and eight, so a half
game under.

Speaker 4 (58:40):
All right?

Speaker 10 (58:41):
All right?

Speaker 7 (58:41):
Next up we have the Washington Commanders. So you know,
the Dallas defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn is now the head
coach for the Commanders. Jane Daniel's rookie quarterback. They're over
under six and a half. Aaron, what do you think.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
I got an over on the Washington Commanders If I
have Philadelphia under and I have Dallas somebody's got to
win games in this division. Schedule obviously a last play
schedule you get obviously at various points throughout the season,
you get the Panthers, the Steelers, the tight Ends, the Saints.
You know, you play the obviously the NFC South in

(59:17):
the cross division games two against the Giants. Again, somebody's
gotta win games in these divisions. In this division, I
like Jayden Daniels. I actually like the coaching staff. I
think dan Quinn is gonna hand over that offense to
Cliff Kingsbury. Remember to dan Quinn made that Super Bowl
when he had a really good offensive coordinator and Kyle Shanahan.
I am going over six and a half wins for

(59:40):
the Washington Commands.

Speaker 3 (59:40):
So Washington nine and eight, Okay, Okay, I've got them
way over. I think they're gonna have And I don't
like dan Quinn as a head coach. I shouldn't say
that I don't like him as a head coach, but
I do like some of the rest of the staff.
But I mean he also wins games in a regular
season as a head coach. I got him three and
one to start losing it Cincinnat and then they'll split

(01:00:01):
their next four, and then they'll split their next four
after that, and then I think they're actually gonna hit
a wall and finish one in three. But nine and
eight for the Commanders, So I am way above. I
think there there's got to be a couple of those
teams to kind of come from nowhere that you aren't expecting.
I think it's going to be them, because I think
Jad and Daniels could be that kind of a difference

(01:00:21):
maker for them. Very good.

Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
We got one team left in this division.

Speaker 7 (01:00:27):
It's a doozy. What do you got, a producer, ian,
It is a doozy. The New York Giants. They're over
under a set at six and a half wins as well,
same as the Commanders. A little bit different situation. What
do you think erin, Yeah, I'd say it's a very
different situation. So I think they're gonna be terrible.

Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
I think it's an under and I think the thing
that stands out to me, and we talked about this
a little bit last week. First of all, six and
eleven last year, and I know Daniel Jones got hurt,
but you know, Daniel Jones is Daniel Jones. And but
but what stands out to me is we talked about
it last week after that Daniel Jones game when he
threw two picks, including the pick six. Is like, I
don't think Brian Dable likes him, and I don't think

(01:01:08):
he trusts him. And I think, listen, we saw it
last year with Philly when there is no harmony between
the coach and the quarterback. I just think it's it's
destined for failure. I don't know where the talent is.
I mean, I know Elite Nighbors is pretty good, but
to who does he have throwing the football to him?
So I think this is an under I think it's

(01:01:28):
insane that the Washington Commanders have the same win total
as the New York Football Jist.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Yes, so I've got the Giants six and eleven, so
i've got them under as well, pretty close to the
six and a half. But I've got him under. I
got him two and two to start and then lose
four or five. I think they're gonna lose at Seattle,
to Cincinnati, to Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. Then they're gonna beat
the Commanders at home. But that's gonna put him three
and six through nine, and then I have him going
three and five and their last eight. I'm with you,
every indicator is off. I don't think the coach and

(01:01:54):
the quarterback are on the same page. There's still too
much missing right now. And I also don't think that
the loss of Saquon Barkley's going to do them any
favors either.

Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
And FC East is in the book.

Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Jmrt and I agree on Dallas under nine and a half,
Washington over six and a half, the New York Giants
under six.

Speaker 4 (01:02:13):
And a half.

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
I have Philly under ten and a half at ten
and seven. J mart has them over at eleven and six.
Fox Sports Radio Aeron Torris, Jason Martin will come back
and we will talk just about a fascinating division, the
NFC North.

Speaker 4 (01:02:31):
That's next.

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Before we get to it, though, let's toss it over
the news desk, Steve de Sega, what's trending, my friend?

Speaker 10 (01:02:36):
We've got late night college football from Hawaii. Not on
TV though, No unless you're in Hawaii, of course, otherwise
you need some sort of app I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
Here with you in Hawaii, I probably wouldn't be on here.

Speaker 4 (01:02:46):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
I did my honeymoon in Hawaii one year and they
were playing week zero, tried to thought about trying to
convince my wife to go, and then I realized I
didn't want to get a divorce on my honeymoon, so
we flipped the.

Speaker 10 (01:03:00):
So you know, they play on campus, the smaller stadium.
Now I'm next to the basketball arena. It's not a
Looha stadium. That dangerous place is closed, and so it's
I don't know, ten thousand seats maybe right next to
the we're.

Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
Playing at Aloha.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
When I was there, I don't even think we were
on the right island. And I was like, oh, maybe
I could rearrange our trip to get to this, and
then I was like, I don't really care that much
about that.

Speaker 10 (01:03:20):
Next Saturday night, it's going to be UCLA at Hawaii.

Speaker 4 (01:03:23):
If you were.

Speaker 10 (01:03:24):
Unaware how tonight's visiting team made it to Hawaii, who
was the story? I will get to that in just
a few seconds. But currently in this late college football game,
it's an early score for Hawaii seven nothing, the lead
over Delaware State in the first quarter. This is a
Delaware State team that went one in ten last year,
and half the losses were blowouts. Of course, Hawaii was
only five and eight last year, and that included a

(01:03:46):
win against Albany. Hawaii opened last season with losses to
Vanderbilt and Stanford, and later lost to New Mexico and
San Diego State. So Delaware State, the visiting team tonight
at least made it there because originally they missed their
flight to Hawaii. Shuttle bus delay was the problem. You see,

(01:04:06):
they had wanted a direct flight. It's all good thinking.
They didn't want to have to have a couple of
connections going from Delaware to Hawaii. So why don't we
just hire a shuttle bus company, have them bust us
to New York and will fly out of JFK Direct.
That was the deal, until, of course, the motorcoach company
said in a statement, we miss picking up Delaware State

(01:04:29):
due to an internal scheduling malfunction in our reservation system.
Delay in picking up the traveling party. So once they
got to New York they had missed their flight. Wow,
the visiting team here again. They did make it to Hawaii.
The game has started, but this is midweek. They had
to spend Tuesday night in New York City finding hotel

(01:04:51):
for the entire traveling party while they arranged alternate travel plans.
I'd read that eventually they had to have two separate
flights because they couldn't get the whole Delaware State party
on one flight. And keep in mind there's a payout
in these types of games. Hawaii is paying Delaware State
one hundred eighty thousand dollars to come out and participate.

(01:05:13):
According to USA Today, in the contract, Hawaii covers round
trip airfare for the travel party, but any change fees
are paid by the visiting team.

Speaker 3 (01:05:26):
No.

Speaker 10 (01:05:27):
Also, if the visitors didn't show up at all, there's
a forfeiture or non appearance clause that means the visitors
would have to pay Hawaii seven hundred fifty thousand dollars
to cover the attendance revenues loss.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
So, yeah, I was gonna say, I'm not great at math,
but one hundred plus people from New York to Hawaii
having a change of flights on one day notice.

Speaker 10 (01:05:50):
Yeah, they will pay up to fourteen hundred bucks per
fare by the way, times one hundred. Anyway, the game,
the visitors are there, the game is underway. It's Hawaii
seven to nothing in the lead. We had comeback wins
for SMU and Montana State SMU with sixteen points in
the fourth one at Nevada twenty nine, twenty four, Montana

(01:06:12):
State with three touchdowns fourth quarter one at New Mexico
thirty five thirty one, and the opener in Dublin went
to Georgia Tech, upsetting preseason number ten Florida State twenty
four twenty one on a forty four yard field goal
on the final play. In late night NFL exhibition action.
It's now Seattle thirty four to twenty six over the

(01:06:33):
Cleveland Browns, who've just scored to open the fourth quarter.
There was an early Seattle touchdown pass Gino Smith to
DK Metcalf twenty one yards. In the late MLB game,
Tampa Bay with a home run in the ninth and
one in the tenth, beat the Dodgers in LA nine
to eight. Shohe Otani with his forty first home run.
Mets won Cleveland and Minnesota with wins, and Philadelphia won

(01:06:56):
at Kansas City eleven to two. J t rail Muto
seven rbispeck to you.

Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
Thank you very much, Steve Sager.

Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
This is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Aaron Tors
Jason Martin broadcasting live from the tyreck dot Com studios
to Sega. Will be back in just a few minutes
with his extended update. So we just gave you our
over under picks and predictions on the NFC East. Let's
get to the fascinating NFC North Ian take it away.

Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
All right.

Speaker 7 (01:07:24):
We're starting off with the Detroit Lions. They're over under
is set at ten and a half wins. JEMRT, we'll
start with you again. Didn't know and didn't look at
the over unders. But I've got them eleven and six.
Great start four and oh, then they'll lose to the
Rams and which would be a really good kind of
early game on October the sixth. I got them losing

(01:07:45):
to the Texans. Then on the twentieth of October, but they're.

Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
Going to be eight and three, and then they're gonna
have a little bit of a tough stretch down, I think,
since I think Chicago is gonna get them once and
I think San Francisco will probably get them as well.
I've got them eleven and six, though, so over by
a half game.

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Playing the AFC South helps including three straight ironically against
the AFC South, leading into, by the way, one of
those Bears matchups on Thanksgiving Day. I'm gonna go over
because I mean bottom line is they went twelve and
five last year. Even if they take a half a
step back lose an extra game, we're still talking about
an over and I don't think they will. I think

(01:08:24):
this is kind of the year that they're built for
all those guys that were on rookie contracts. This is
kind of the last year they're on those rookie contracts
before guys start making real money. So this is kind
of the window for them. Right now. Give me the
Lions over in the NFC North, all right. Next up
we have the Green Bay Packers Jordan Love. People are

(01:08:46):
pretty blah, pretty high on him going into this year.
They're over under it set at nine and a half wins.

Speaker 3 (01:08:52):
J Mart, what do you think which team did you say?
This was Schapa Packers Packers you.

Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
Said nine and a half, nine and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
I'm pretty bull on them, I guess then, because I've
got them twelve and five. I've got him actually winning
the division in a bar and burner down the stretch
with Detroit. But I've got them also four and oh.
So I got both those two teams four to oh
to start. But I think you look at some of
the way it's structural so they've got a pretty solid
matchup on Thursday Night football against Detroit in Detroit, which

(01:09:22):
I think is going to be a really good football
game to watch. But I've got them twelve and five.
I like him a lot. I think Jordan Love is
going to play well again, and I think that they
found synergy down the stretch. They only got better in
the offseason, and I think Laflor can coach.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
So I do think Laflor can coach, which is why
I'm a little concerned because I do have them going under.
And let me explain why I like Jordan Love. But
we talked about this a few weeks ago when he
got the extension. I think there's a little bit of
a myth about how good he was down the stretch.
His credit played really well in big standalone games obviously

(01:09:57):
one on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions. Of course, took
care of business on Sunday Night Football against Kansas City Chiefs,
so I don't want to undersell what he did against
good competition. He also lost to the New York Football
Giants at the same time, lost to the Tampa Bay Bucks.
Wasn't great in a couple other games, and so I
just think the mythology is a little bit bigger than

(01:10:18):
the results. And the one thing I will say that
there is a five game stretch that I would look
at where I would be a little bit concerned. And
he kind of referenced to Jason, But Lions at Bears,
forty nine Ers, Dolphins at Lions. That is a five
game stretch from November three to December fifth. You know,

(01:10:38):
I listen, I still nine and eight still gets into
the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
I think there.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
I don't think they take the step up that people think,
but still think they can get in as a wildcard.

Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
All right.

Speaker 7 (01:10:48):
Next up we have the Chicago Bears. Caleb Williams. Is
he the prince that was promised? They're over under set
at eight and a half wins? Jmart, what do you think?

Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
I got them nine and eight, so I've got them
over by a half game. I think they'll win either
the Tennessee or Houston game, not both, but I think
they'll win one of those and then they'll beat the Colts.
So they're playing, you know, three AFC South teams to
open the season. Then I think you lose the Rams
and then you play the Carolina Panthers. I feel pretty
good about that. I think you're three and three after

(01:11:17):
you lose to Jacksonville in London, and then you get Washington,
Arizona and New England in a row. I like that.
And then I actually think they stunned Green Bay and
so they've won a good many in a row there.
But then they're gonna be another team that kind of
hits the wall late and just kind of limps to
the finish line. I think that's where you're gonna see.

(01:11:38):
There's still a process here, but not in an eight
Pretty good year for Caleb Williams and company.

Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
Yeah, I'm with you on the over here. You know
the schedule, like you said, totally manageable. You know, last
play schedule. You open with the three AFC South teams,
Carolina at home Jacksonville obviously on a neutral it's technically
a home game for them, but it's in, it's in,
it's in London. But the Patriots, you know, Lions on
a short week. Maybe you catch them. I'm not saying

(01:12:04):
you will, but it's possible. Seahawks late in the year,
so listen. I'm a Caleb Williams guy. We've talked about
him a million times. I think a lot of the
narratives are absolute nonsense. Go ahead, give me.

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
The over all.

Speaker 7 (01:12:16):
Right, Lastly, we have the Minnesota Vikings. Can Sam Darnald
get them to six and a half wins?

Speaker 4 (01:12:22):
J Martin, what do you think?

Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
Nope, I've got them under I have them five and twelve.
I think you're gonna start one and four and that's
gonna kind of set the stage for the rest of
the year. Even if you kind of right the ship.
I think you lose your last three games of the
season to Seattle, Green Bay in Detroit. I think it's
just gonna be a rough year for them. I don't
think you can go into the season with Sam Darnold

(01:12:44):
as QB one and not a good backup situation whatsoever,
and no possibility of JJ McCarthy or just an incomplete team.
Even though I do like the head coach, I just
don't think in that division there's just too much talent elsewhere.

Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
What was the number again, Ian, real quick?

Speaker 7 (01:13:03):
It was six and a half.

Speaker 4 (01:13:05):
Six and a half's pretty low.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
But I'm gonna have to go with J mart Yeah,
I just like you said, Like J mar just said,
I mean, the division is so tough. Quarterback deficit every
single week. I've seen what I have to see from
Sam Donald. I just don't think he's an NFL starting quarterback.
I don't think you can trust him. I don't think
he can rely on him.

Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
Just not a fan.

Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
I don't know what else there's to say. Not a
fan of Sam Donald, never have been a fan of
Sam Donald. I will go under six and a half
on the Minnesota Vikings, so J Martin. I agree over
ten and a half on the Detroit Lions. J mart
has over nine and a half on Green Bay well over.
He has them winning the division. I have them under
at nine and at nine and eight. Excuse me, we
both have over eight and a half with Chicago under

(01:13:52):
five six and a half with Minnesota. Next week we
will do the NFC South in the NFC West. By
the way, Brush, you give some Super Bowl next week,
jmart as well. All right, Fox Sports Radio aertors Jason
Martin broadcasting live from the Tyreck dot Com studios. When
we come back to Sega with his extended update all
the little nuggets you missed from week zero and beyond

(01:14:13):
in the world.

Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
Of college football. This is Fox Sports Redo.

Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio aer Tours. Jason Martin
broadcasting live from the tyreq dot Com studios. As we
do every week around this time, let's toss it over
the news desk to sag or give us your extended
update everything we missed throughout the day.

Speaker 10 (01:14:33):
Well again details on the openers. Is College football season
is underway. I will say the late night game at Hawaii.
The home team has just scored again on a punt
return for a touchdown, So Hawaii fourteen nothing over Delaware State.
Final seconds of the first quarter Delaware State again one
and ten last year. Most teams open next weekend. The
first game on Fox TV is Thursday, North Carolina at Minnesota.

(01:14:56):
Then the first big noon game is Penn State at
West Virginia next Saturday thirty First the upset in Dublin,
Georgia Tech kicks a forty four yard field goal on
the final play to win twenty four to twenty one
over Florida State, which, for what it's worth, was preseason
number ten. Notable that the game winning field goal came
right after a twelve yard pass completion on third and seventeen. Here,

(01:15:19):
Georgia Tech's offense early in the third quarter had missed
a field goal attempt from fifty one yards out. They
were looking at an attempt from longer than that here
at the end of the game until that gain on
the short pass that turned into twelve yards and Georgia
Tech wins it. You mentioned earlier in the show the
ground game for him rushing the non quarterbacks for Georgia

(01:15:40):
Tech twenty carries one hundred and thirty five yards rushing
against Florida State. Now, the Seminoles made field goals of
fifty two and fifty nine yards in the second quarter,
but late in the first quarter they went for it
and threw incomplete on fourth and four that would have
been a fifty one yard attempt. FSU lost by three points.

(01:16:01):
For Georgia Tech, this was their first win over a
Top ten opponent in nearly a decade, since they beat
Florida States in twenty fifteen. By the way, the next
AP poll is not until September third, and we had
a couple of comeback wins. SMU tonight winning at Nevada
at twenty nine to twenty four. Each team committed eleven penalties,
but the Mustang scored sixteen points in about the last

(01:16:23):
eight minutes. And then there was the game on FS
one at New Mexico. Montana State scores three touchdowns in
the fourth quarter to win thirty five to thirty one.
That included a ninety three yard touchdown run with under
five minutes left and the game winning run with ten
seconds left. New Mexico missed two field goal attempts on
back to back drives in the second half, missed from

(01:16:45):
thirty five and from forty two yards out, lost the
game by four. Here in New Mexico was up early
second quarter seventeen to nothing against a Montana State team
that was favored on the road by two touchdowns, largest
margin in the for an FCS team over FBS in
at least fifteen years. Montana State escapes with the victory.

(01:17:07):
New Mexico Lobos did get two touchdowns on fumble returns.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
It counts.

Speaker 10 (01:17:11):
They led thirty one fourteen going to the fourth quarter
and could not close it out for new coach Bronco
Menden Hall Attendant seventeen thousand. You want to talk ground game,
Montana State three hundred and sixty two yards rushing nearly
eight yards per carry. As for the NFL News, this
is the final week of the preseason. Three games on Sunday.

(01:17:31):
Denver's not due to play quarterback Bo Nicks Against the Cardinals,
Jarrett Stidham would start, Zach Wilson getting most of the work.
Cardinals first round defensive lineman Darius Robinson could start the
season on injured reserve with a calf injury. New England's
at Washington on Sunday. Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett is due
to start, quarterback Drake May and most of the team
due to play. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels out this weekend.

(01:17:55):
NFL clubs have to reduce their rosters to fifty three
players by Tuesday, and then the waiver claims come by
the next day. Tampa Bay running back Chase Edmonds will
start the season on IR with an undisclosed injury. The
Browns traded defensive tackle Chris Williams to the Bears. Did
you hear about the new bylaws for the Pro Football
Hall of Fame? Coaches are now eligible for the Hall

(01:18:17):
after one season away from the game, not five years,
So Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll could be eligible for
the Hall in just over a year.

Speaker 4 (01:18:25):
Real quick.

Speaker 7 (01:18:26):
But if he gets a job this offseason.

Speaker 10 (01:18:28):
The clock starts over. Okay, that's what I thought you'd
have to be away from the game. Among the eight
NFL exhibitions on this Saturday, Carolina won at Buffalo thirty
one twenty six. Panthers kicker Eddie Pinero left with what
is called a sore hamstring, not an actual injury, just
to precaution. Bryce Young did play some six of eight
passing seventy yards in a touchdown for the Bills. Frank

(01:18:50):
Gored Junior had eighteen carries one hundred and one yards
rushing in a touchdown today, but the Panthers, with no turnovers,
just one punt and nearly three hundred and fifty yards
passing as a team Detroit twenty four to seventeen over
the Steelers, who went zero to three in the preseason
and combined nine sacks in that game. Quarterback Hendon Hooker
of the Lions ten carries ninety three yards. He had

(01:19:13):
one short touchdown, pass, one interception, one fumble. Steelers led
it fourteen to nothing in the first quarter. Pittsburgh's offense
with only forty three plays. Detroit had seventy four plays
nine total kickoffs in that game. Just one went into
the end zone. With the new rules, Green Bay over
Baltimore thirty to seven. The Packers kicked field goals of

(01:19:34):
fifty four and fifty five yards and scored a touchdown
on a fumble return. The Ravens punter Jordan Stout today
averaged averaged sixty two yards on his four punts, but
Baltimore the backups had just nine first downs Ravens backups
with four turnovers as well.

Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
Thank you very much, Steve Disager loaded busy Saturday in sports.
Appreciate everything he did there to Sega. Appreciate all the
insight and everything that we learned. Fox Sports Radio Ertorus

Bernie Frado of the Bernie Fradoshow follows us. Cannot wait
to hear his takes on week zero and beyond. Obviously
a lot going on in the world of sports.

Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
At this time.

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
By the way, if you ever want to tweeted us
share thoughts on the show at Aaron Underscore Tours on
Twitter at j Mart Radio for Jason J. Mart Football's
Back Baby Week zero listen on a Week zero didn't
provide necessarily, like you know, the biggest slate of games.

(01:21:22):
I will say this though, how about this four games
basically three fourth quarter comebacks. Smu rallies to beat Nevada
in the eight o'clock eastern kickoff. They score sixteen unanswered
points in the fourth quarter to win at Nevada. Montana
State this was a wild one. They were a thirteen

(01:21:42):
and a half point favor coming in as an FCS team,
actually trailed going into the fourth quarter, score twenty one
unanswered and Montana State wins at New Mexico.

Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
Again.

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Montana State in FCS team playing at New Mexico. They
get the win. Hawaii, as the Sacred just told you,
is still playing right now against Delaware State. That game,
as we speak is in the second quarter, Hawaii up.

Speaker 4 (01:22:10):
Fourteen to nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:22:11):
That said, though, we know what the big game was
in week zero. It was Georgia Tech against the tenth
ranked Florida State Seminoles in Dublin, and it was a
good one. This is how this one ended.

Speaker 5 (01:22:25):
Out the soldiers, He's right, it set down for him,
Boot it up, it's tumbling, it's turning.

Speaker 6 (01:22:31):
It is the horn kid. Ain't the luck of the Iris.

Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
HiT's the heart of the.

Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
Jackets, and Georgia Tech knocks off number ten Florida State
fintals four twenty four twenty one.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
That call courtesy of six point eighty the fan in
Atlanta tell you this, Jason, I don't know who is
the play by play voice of the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets,
but as the seger told us earlier in the show,
it's been about a decade since they have pulled off
an upset of this magnitude. You could feel the thrill
for Georgia Tech. Obviously, a very disappointing result for the

(01:23:12):
tenth rank floor State seminal Gum.

Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
Yeah. I mean it's not catastrophic as much as it
would have been a year years past. But the question
is was it a fluke or was it a trend
or was it something that seemed more like the team
you're ready to see. And I think there's gonna be
some highs and lows to this team, but we know

(01:23:36):
what dj Angiolila is at this stage, and he's just
kind of he's okay, and that's sort of it. And
it's a big time step down from what you had
a season ago. You also lost playmakers that are going
to be playing on Sundays. You were loaded last year
and then you had something really unfortunate happen that may

(01:23:58):
have cost you your shot for the next couple of
years because I just don't think that they are made
for this season. Like you look at that team that
you saw today and yes there's some rust. And again,
it's not a game I'd want to play. If I'm
a team with college football playoff aspirations, the last thing
I want to do is go to Dublin in Week
zero with a new quarterback and all these new players

(01:24:21):
and trying to make it all work and then you're
playing a conference opponent who nobody was really paying a
closet attention to. But you did have some guys that
came in there and had had experience on a bigger stage,
and they showed up. And I thought from about midway
through the second quarter, Georgia Tech might win this game.

(01:24:43):
Like it didn't feel like they were going to run
out of guess it was just maybe Florida State's going
to eke this out, but it's not going to be
a good win for them. It's going to be a
hard fought win. Then after the game you start you
see this and I read this on a couple of
different places like Georgia Tech could be a problem for
teams all year. No, I just don't think Florida State's

(01:25:03):
very good. Like I don't think you look at it
from the Georgia Tech perspective and just see that they're
gonna go nine and three or anything like that. I
think this was much more a function of Florida State
just kind of showing that they're not a particularly strong
team this year.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Yeah, it's really funny and you don't want to dismiss
Georgia Tech.

Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
It's a great win.

Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Again, de Sager told us earlier in the show, first
top ten win in a decade or so.

Speaker 4 (01:25:29):
You don't want to diminish what they did.

Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
But it is funny, right these week zero standalone games,
when everybody's watching, you get those takes of you know, hey,
I mean, Florida State wasn't very good, but it's like
maybe Georgia Texas sleeper. It's like, I don't know, I
don't know about that. They you know, listen good Win,
but you know they still have at Georgia, Notre Dame

(01:25:50):
at home, Miami at home, North Carolina State at home.
Those are all teams that are ranked at the top
twenty five, not to mention at North Carolina at Louisville,
et cetera. So, yeah, you want to celebrate Georgia Tech.
You want to be happy for that fan base. This
to me is all about Florida State though, and it's
crazy because you know, they're just one where I really

(01:26:11):
think that Listen. Last year, like you said this early
in the show, Jmart, but all the stars aligned, everything
worked out. You had kind of the right mix of
returneys with the right group of kind of new Portal guys.

Speaker 4 (01:26:25):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
So you think about the returnees, Jordan Travis, Jared Verse
ended up as a first round pick. Jared Vers could
have gone pro the year before decides to return. Then
you really kind of hit in the portal with some
guys where Keon Coleman obviously an early second round pick.
He was the first pick of the second round as
a matter of fact, of the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen's
been raving about him. You know, you get him out

(01:26:46):
of the portal. Brayden Fisk, who was the second round
pick of the Los Angeles Rams, you get him out
of the portal. I think that's kind of one of
my big picture takeaways is one what you said, great
season a year ago, you want to celebrate.

Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
You feel bad. I feel bad about how it did.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
And I know today some of the discourse was, oh,
you know they've been talking all off season and da
da da dah they had it coming to I disagree.
I mean, listen, you and I were on air during
that Florida State situation.

Speaker 4 (01:27:17):
We talked.

Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
I mean we're the first ones to really react to. Okay,
Florida State is officially won the ACC Is it going
to be Florida State or Alabama?

Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
So I do feel bad about how it ended.

Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
But I also look at you know, this is not
a program that over the last couple of years under
Mike Norvel has consistently really recruited at the highest level.
And so I do think there's something interesting with the
portal where it's like, listen, you know, they struck gold
with a lot of guys last year again Keon Coleman,
guys of that nature, but they lose ten for ten

(01:27:46):
first round ten picks overall in the NFL draft that
was by far the most out of the ACC And
as you can see, you know, maybe this is just
an indicator of how elite some of those truly elite
teams are at the top of the sport.

Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
But they're not a Georgia, they're.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
Not an Ohio state, they're not in Alabama that can
lose that level of talent and bounce back without missing
a beat.

Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
That's right, And you know, it's twelve team playoff and
it's a long season and you never know if they're
able to turn it around. But what I saw just
looked like a team that was kind of flawed and
just kind of was disparate in terms of its makeup
and the parts doesn't have the same speed, doesn't have
the same talent on the outside, and then you've got
a quarterback that's much closer to a game manager at

(01:28:29):
best in terms of he's just not a dynamic guy
that is a game changer at that position. He's certainly serviceable,
but that feels like a backhandy compliment, like you have
to be better than that, you have to be more.
You have to be able to alter the game from
the quarterback position, And nowhere really that DJU has been.

(01:28:53):
Has he been able to prove that? Like that's what
you expected from him early on at Clemson. He lost
that gig. You know, he went out to the West
Coast and he certainly was fine again. But you're stepping
from Jordan Travis to dj U, and you saw it
right here. There is a tremendous difference between those guys.

Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
Very random.

Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
Did dj you peak in his first game as college quarterback?
Like if you remember remember he played it was during
the COVID season. Trevor Lawrence gets COVID right before the
Notre Dame game that was basically Clemson's only big regular
season game. They ended up losing, but he dj you
played really well, and then you know, listen, Obviously, Trevor

(01:29:34):
Lawrence comes back. They end up winning the ACC going
to the playoff, but struggled to Clemson two years in
a row. Even the year like like his last year there,
they did win the ACC, but like if you remember,
like in the ACC championship game, he basically got benched
for Kate Klubnick obviously Oregon State. Ear It's it's, you know,
in the grand scheme. I don't think it's the most

(01:29:54):
important thing that's ever been discussed, but I was just
thinking about that today. I think I think the guy
peaked and literally his first college game and it's all
been downhill since then.

Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Yeah, it's sometimes that's the way it goes. I mean,
he was in a in a pressure creaker spot when
it comes to the kind of quarterbacks that debos when
he had year after year after year, and he just
he rolled in and I do think that the hype
was high and he had a strong performance to open
and really never even came close to that again. And

(01:30:24):
I don't think it was a pressure thing. I just
I'm just not sure he was that good, Like he
may have just kind of hit a ceiling as being
sort of an average college quarterback, which is a lot
better than I have, but I'm not you know, I
certainly maybe he was more touted than he should have been,
but I mean, he was a Clemson quarterback, so you
had to expect he was probably going to be good
based on the history.

Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Yes, you know it, but again, and I think it
speaks also again back to the portal stuff. I mean,
I remember you even talking last week about Notre Dame,
where Notre Dame's kind of in this cycle where they
are two three years in a row. They've had to
go to the portal to get a quarterback, and it's
like some point you got to develop a guy internally
and hope to keep him two three years.

Speaker 7 (01:31:04):
And it's like you look at DJU.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
You know, listen, I'm not blaming anybody, but you know,
Jordan Travis, you know, graduates late last year. You can
kind of see the guys that they had on that
roster were not good enough, and you gotta go to
the portal replace Jordan Travis. And sometimes you're gonna hit
and you're gonna get the right guy and he's gonna
turn into Jaden Daniels or Joe Burrow or whoever. And
then sometimes getting up with dju So Florida State loses

(01:31:29):
in the opener, and I'm with you J Martin. No
disrespect to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but I don't
think this is some big reflection that Georgia Tech is
all of a sudden, this team that needs to be
on our radar. Fun story, cool story, but they have
a very tough schedule. Four more ranked opponents on their schedule.
By the way, quick shout out to Cody Corey Burkharth

(01:31:52):
who tagged Andy Demetra, who is apparently the play by
play voice of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Thank you
to Corey who is listening to our show. Although he
did say Aaron may be a Fresno hater, but he
shouted out the big call today.

Speaker 4 (01:32:09):
Am I a Fresno hater?

Speaker 3 (01:32:10):
Chack? I didn't know that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Yeah, that's news to me. I'm not really aware. I've
never actually been to Fresno. We did pick up my
dog just north of Fresno, Andro through beautiful city. Big
Aaron judge guy, he's a Fresno State guy. Like Paul George.
He's a Fresno State guy. I didn't know I was
a Fresno hater, So you learned something new every day?

Speaker 3 (01:32:30):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:32:30):

The way tire buying should be coming up, jmart We'll
switch gears. We'll talk a little w NBA, where the
most surprising person in the sport is now saying nice
things about Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 4 (01:33:30):
Would have never guessed did. We'll explain next. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports radio erratorist Jason Martin broadcasting
live from the tirerack dot Com studios. Want to switch
gears Complete one eighty, Complete one eighty Talk a little

(01:33:57):
WNBA baby, the league that keeps on giving.

Speaker 4 (01:34:00):
Listen. I'll say this, you know, the Caton Clark thing.
Credit to her, credit to Angel Reeves.

Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
We're still talking about this sport, jmart But Caton Clark
and the Indiana Fever. We're playing the Minnesota Links tonight. Okay,
Minnesota Links. That's of course interesting because the Minnesota Links
are coached by none other than Cheryl Reeve. Of course,
Cheryl Reeve was the head coach of Team USA. Cheryl

(01:34:28):
Reeve has had some not very nice things to say
about Caitlin Clark in the past. She said that there's
more than one or she's tweeted, I think there's more
than one player in the league. At one point, she
was asked about the national team before they went over,
about Caitlin Clark specifically, and she said, why the h
E double hockey sticks? Would I answer a national team question.

(01:34:52):
I'm wearing my Link shirt and I'm the head coach
of the national team, but I'm not chair of the
committee anybody want to venture into anything else. So I yeah,
this woman, Cheryl Reeve has not had nice things to
say about Caitlin Clark. But I bring it up because
they played earlier today and she was asked about Caitlin Clark.

(01:35:12):
Now keep in mind, by the way, I should mention,
Minnesota Links were honoring Maya Moore, who obviously left the team.
My more former Yukon Husky left the team. She got married,
and she is now criminal rights you know she works
in the criminal rights field.

Speaker 4 (01:35:27):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
But I bring it up because Cheryl Reeve was asked
about Caitlyn Clark, and she said, I wish I had
either one of them, Caitlin or Maya was playing for us.
Either one, I'd take either. In other words, Cheryl Reeve,
arguably the biggest Caitlyn Clark hater, seemingly, much like the
rest of the WNBA, is finally coming around to Caitlyn Clark,

(01:35:51):
finally says something nice. Are you surprised? I mean, this
is a bigger upset than Georgia Tech Florida State. Cheryl
Reeve actually saying some nice things about Kaylyn Clark. This
just happened a few hours ago, but figured we talk.

Speaker 3 (01:36:03):
About it a little bit. Interestingly, See the story hadn't
even happened, but I had sent you, I guess it
would have been yesterday. I'd seen a piece of The
Athletic and I'd seen a couple of other things, just
kind of browsing through the net during the course of
the week, where it just seems like all the articles
right now are real positive surrounding Kaitlyn Clark, like everything is,

(01:36:24):
and you're not really hearing anything negative coming from players
right now. And here you go with the coach of
the Minnesota Lynx coming out and finally giving her her due.
And there's two reasons for this, in my opinion. One
is she's good and they know she's good, and they
look at her statistically at this stage and you compare
her to every rookie guard that's ever played in a WNBA,

(01:36:47):
and the Athletics writing an article saying she might actually
be having the best rookie season the guards ever had
in the WNBA. So at that point you can't criticize
her too much. I know she still turns the ball
over a lot, but she also goes twenty three, five
and eight against Minnesota on Saturday night, and then the
second thing is you went to the Olympics and a

(01:37:08):
tree fell in the forest, but no one was around,
and so we don't even know if it made a
sound because they were over there and they won, but
nobody paid attention to it. And it makes it all
the more egregious when you see the kind of season
that she's now having and you're seeing everything flip because
I think internally, whether they want to admit it or not,

(01:37:30):
it's not like it's a giant cabal or a star
chamber or something like that. But I think individually, in
their own minds, whatever bias they had is starting to
be canceled out by this fog of just an obvious
feeling internally where they realize they need they do. They
just flat out do. She moves the needle in away

(01:37:50):
no one else does. As matter of fact, you could
argue that the two people that moved the needle the
most in that league are both rookies, with her and
her nemesis, Angel Reese, who's done a very nice job
of first having great stats throughout the year, but second
she's she's definitely drafted off Kitlyn Clark, and then she's
actually kind of transcended just being that and at least

(01:38:12):
has become entertaining on her own side as well. But
I don't think they can afford to be particularly petty
towards Caitlyn Clark anymore because once she is gonna be
the future of the league when it comes to what
she's doing on the floor, they can't deny that anymore.
And two, they desperately need her star power, especially with

(01:38:32):
football starting.

Speaker 4 (01:38:33):
So a couple quick things.

Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
One to the credit both of them, angel Rees actually
leading the league in rebounds, Caitlyn Clark leading the league
and assists I'm gonna push back, but it's more of
a question than a definitive pushback. Do you think it's
a like non coordinate like cause, I, you know, the
league needed Katon Clark eight weeks ago, the league need

(01:38:57):
to Katy and Clark in April, May and June, but
there was no We went through all the narratives and
all the discourses and all the whatever. So when you
say that they're finally understanding that they need her, do
you think that's like a league wide you know, an
unofficial memo that went around like hey, maybe we need
to pump it back, or do you think it's individual

(01:39:18):
people just finally realizing, like, dude, this girl is actually
pretty important to what we're doing overall.

Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
Like I said, I don't think that there was any
kind of like a conservative meeting where they sat down
and decided what they were going to do in either direction.
But I do think it's likely just because it's is
human nature, and I think everybody listening can relate to
this in some way, shape or form. They've been in
a group that's been a part of this. You're in
a group of people and there's a subject out there

(01:39:46):
and maybe it's something that is red hot at the
time or popular at the time or whatever it is,
and that group just kind of starts being like, man,
screw that, forget that, you know, and it's a total
sort of a negative, and it can grow, it can spread.
I don't think that there was anything intentional. I just

(01:40:07):
think there was probably a lot of smack talking and
a lot of yeah, we'll show her kind of stuff.
And as the season has worn along, they've seen more
people in the seats, more articles being written, a little
bit more just interest level across the board, and then
they've played against her, and the more that that has happened,

(01:40:31):
I imagine some of those conversations are you know what,
She's actually kind of good and it's probably been tough
for them to kind of get to that point. But again,
I don't think there was any kind of a concerted
group effort. I just feel like individually and then in
conversations amongst each other, I just kind of feel like

(01:40:52):
it's generally taking this place, taking us to kind of
an organic place where the Caitlin Clark discord has just
changed because now they're playing against her and they've seen
her value both on and off the court, and whether
they want to talk about it or not, the reason
why things are better in that league right now is
because of the extra attention that she's brought to it.

(01:41:14):
Then you go to the Olympics and it doesn't matter,
and you come back and really your league is nearly
dead in the water and all you've got is her,
and thank goodness, she's also good at this stage, and
the statistics back it up. So probably time to get
on board, or at the very least just stop the chirping.

Speaker 4 (01:41:33):
Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
By the way, in that lost twenty three points eight assists,
did have seven turnovers. Indiana falls to Minnesota. They are
still the seven seed right now. For people who are
new to the WNBA their playoff format, it appears as though,
and I'm pretty new to it myself, the top the
top eight teams all make it so as of right now,

(01:41:55):
the Indiana Fever are in the playoff mix. Fox Sports
Radio Aeron tors J Martin broadcasting live from the Tireck
dot Com studios. Will come back kind of whip around
some stuff that happened over the course of the afternoon
on the final weekend of NFL preseason games. Get to
that in a minute before we do, though, let's toss
it over the news desk final time this evening to Sega.

Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
What is trending?

Speaker 10 (01:42:16):
Less than a month left in that WNBA regular season,
and the Minnesota win over Indiana did clinch a playoff spot.
Connecticut won at New York Breonna Stewart fifteen points, fifteen rebounds.
We've got the late night college football at Hawaii home
team holding on fourteen to nothing over Delaware State, which
is driving. In the final minute before the halftime break.
Late first quarter, Hawaii had scored on a pund return Ar's.

Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
It to the full side Hi to the twenty to
the town in for six.

Speaker 10 (01:42:45):
You saw the Speed Spectrum Sports in Hawaii with the
call again the home team leading late first half earlier
on FS one. Today Montana State with three touchdowns in
the fourth quarter. One at New Mexico thirty five to
thirty one to SMU, scoring sixteen points in about the
last eight minutes. Won at Nevada twenty nine twenty four,
and the season started with the opening win the upset

(01:43:09):
by Georgia Tech in Dublin, beating Florida State twenty four
to twenty one on a forty four yard field goal
on the final play. NASCAR tonight was at Daytona. The
four hundred was won by Harrison Burton. Kyle Busch finished second.
Burton only led the final lap. It's his first career victory,
so he clinched a playoff spot. The regular season ends

(01:43:30):
next weekend. Keegan Bradley leads the PGA Playoff by one
stroke over Adam Scott, who shot a third round seventy four.
The Tour Championship is next weekend in Atlanta. The NFL's
late night exhibition at Seattle went to the Seahawks over
Cleveland thirty seven to thirty three. The Browns finish Ozho
to three. In the preseason. Quarterback to Shawn Watson did

(01:43:51):
not play Tonight. Still has not played in a game
since last November. He had shoulder surgery. The Jets defense
had eight sacks in a ten to six victory over
the Giants. The Chargers won at Dallas twenty six to nineteen.
Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance, getting all kinds of time on
the field in the preseason, today, had one touchdown pass

(01:44:11):
and five interceptions. Dallas as a team over five hundred
and fifty yards and did not win. In fact, they
had ninety three plays in this game. Time of possession
was forty one minutes to nineteen and yet the Chargers
won on the road. And the Chargers have defensive back
Tony Jefferson, now ex of Baltimore. He's back in the
league and today he had fourteen tackles, two interceptions, and

(01:44:35):
a sack. Houston beat the Rams seventeen to fifteen. The
Rams were stopped on a two point run with about
three minutes to go after missing an extra point kick
in the first half for the Texans. Cam Akers seven
carries against the Rams and fifty three yards. Minnesota went
three to zero in the preseason. After an easy win
at Philadelphia twenty six to three, the Eagles backups with

(01:44:56):
three turnovers. Vikings rookie kicker Will reikerd from Alabama four
for four on field goals, including a late fifty seven yarder.
Wins for Green Bay, Detroit, and Carolina, which won at
Buffalo thirty one twenty six. Panthers kicker Eddie Pinero, as
a precaution, left with a sore hamstring. The late MLB
game at Dodger Stadium went to Tampa Bay, which homered

(01:45:18):
in the ninth and tenth to end the Dodger five
game winning streak nine to eight in ten innings the final.
Although Shoeotani did hit his forty first home run, the
Dodger record is forty nine in a season. The Dodgers
are first in the NL West three games over. Arizona
Diamondbacks won their fifth game in a row, four to
one at Boston. Dodger's still four and a half up
on the Padre. San Diego lost at home seven to

(01:45:40):
one to the Mets pitcher David Peterson now eight and
one for the Mets. Cleveland and Minnesota with wins. Philadelphia
got a victory at Kansas City eleven to two. J
T Rail Muto with seven RBIs, including two three run homers.
Wins for the Cubs and Reds on the road Detroit
as well. Trek Scoubel Tigers also went five innings. He's

(01:46:01):
fifteen and four.

Speaker 4 (01:46:03):
You're shutting him down soon, right.

Speaker 10 (01:46:04):
They are certainly extending the rest between starts.

Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
Put it that way.

Speaker 10 (01:46:09):
Milwaukee and Toronto with wins. The Toronto pitcher, they let's
stay in the game. He had a no hitter through
eight innings, three walks, one hit batter, and then he
allowed a lead off homer top of the night, so
Toronto three to won. The final starter for the Giants,
Blake Snell, had no decision. He went three innings at Seattle,
six walks allowed in at Hometown, two of those with

(01:46:30):
bases loaded. San Francisco did win four to three. The
Mariners still trail Houston in the AL West by four
and a half games. Baltimore beat Houston three to two,
so the Orioles are now just a half game back
of the first place Yankees in the AL East. Yanks
lost at home today to Colorado nine to two.

Speaker 4 (01:46:47):
Back to you, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
Steve the Sager to Sega have a great evening back
tomorrow to Saga will be with the gang including Arnie Spanier,
Chris Plank later in the evening, Fox Sports Radio air Tours,
and Jason Martin. We are taking until two am Eastern time. Jamar,
just want to rip through a couple things that happened
on the field in preseason today NFL. You know, nothing major,

(01:47:09):
but I thought there were a few things that kind
of caught my attention.

Speaker 4 (01:47:12):
By the way, if you missed it.

Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
Earlier in the show, we talked about Deshaun Watson, who
sat out their Brown's final preseason game after it was
said by Kevin Stefanski that all starters would play.

Speaker 4 (01:47:23):
So we discussed that.

Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
But one guy who also made his preseason debut, which
was obviously the only preseason game that he will be
playing this year.

Speaker 4 (01:47:32):
Bryce Young.

Speaker 2 (01:47:33):
Bryce Young played just for a little bit with Carolina
Panther six of eight passing seventy yards and a touchdown.
After the game, new coach David Canalis called it a
hell of a day and basically said, couldn't have dreamt
it better. A fourth down conversion in there, but saw
him extend some plays with his legs, keeping his eyes

(01:47:54):
downfield finding guys. Let me just ask you. You know,
obviously Bryce Young debac a season ago, new head coach,
but again, this is coming off of a season in
which the former Heisman Trophy winner fifty nine point eight
percent completion percentage, eleven touchdowns, ten interceptions. What do you

(01:48:14):
expect big picture from Bryce Young and certainly in this
second season for the Carolina Panthers quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:48:20):
Well, it's a bad situation last year on the sidelines
and on the field. He didn't magically get taller or bigger,
So that's still going to be an issue. I don't
know that the defense is better off considering some of
the exits and some of the changes there, But you
do have new leadership and a commitment to him. I

(01:48:41):
don't think he could play worse. I don't think it
could go worse for him, barring some kind of injury
that took him out for the entire season. So I
do think they're going to be better. I do. And
you've heard a lot of positive stuff said about him
in the offseason, and you know kind of what he
was as a young man at Alabama and what a
leader he was capable of being, so I wouldn't be

(01:49:01):
surprised to see him be markedly better than he was.
I think the sea wing is lower by far than
maybe we saw coming in. I don't think he's ever
going to get to you know, a C. J. Strawe
kind of level or anything like that. But can he
be more than serviceable? Yeah, I still think it's possible.
I haven't completely given up on him, but I'm definitely

(01:49:24):
a little down because I really anticipated him being really
good right out of the jump last year and he
absolutely was not.

Speaker 4 (01:49:33):
He was not.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Yeah, I have no strong opinions really, you know, I'm
listening more hoping he's better.

Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
At this point, it's wait and see is the best
you can really give him.

Speaker 2 (01:49:43):
I think I totally agree, And you know, the good
news is the schedule is pseudo manageable early at Sandy
or at New Orleans Saints than the Chargers at home,
than the Vegas Raiders. In theory, you could have two
of the three worst teams in the first couple of
weeks the season, two relatively the unstable quarterback positions there,
so you'd hope that they can get off to a

(01:50:04):
little bit of a better start after last year's two
and fifteen debacle, and of course the worst part was
he didn't even get the first overall pick because of
a previous trade. Really quickly another quarterback situation. We talked
about this one a lot last week, but last week,
Russell Wilson gets the start, he struggles, he gets hit,
a bunch, sacked a bunch, You go to Justin Fields.

(01:50:25):
It doesn't get much better. Tonight a little bit better
for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They did lose to the Detroit Lions,
but Russell Wilson on the opening drive does lead a
touchdown drive. Then from there Justin Fields takes over. Mike
Tomlin seemed actually pretty happy with Russell Wilson said, we
just needed results that were indicative of how we worked,

(01:50:47):
and so we were able to put together a scoring
drive and really just provided an opportunity to get Justin
in there after that, and so that's what we did.
He then continued, when asked about if Russell Wilson was
the starter, will make a decision at the end of
our work week. This upcoming week, we have three days
of Steelers versus Steelers work and why not do it?

Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
Then?

Speaker 2 (01:51:09):
Do you still think that Russell Wilson will be the
starter Week one for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 3 (01:51:16):
No yet, No, I don't. I Maybe I'm just thinking
about it from a practical standpoint of what I would do,
and maybe they are going to try and protect him
a little bit and let him start. But what do
you really learn from two of two passing twenty six yards? Yes,
he let a touchdown drive in a preseason game where

(01:51:38):
he threw two passes and didn't even run the ball.
Justin Field's went three or four for forty. I don't
know what you learned from either one of those two numbers.
That's why I'm like, you can't get anything from the
preseason that you really can extrapolate into the regular season.
So I think they're protecting it. Maybe Tomlin is going
to give him a start or two, but I don't

(01:52:00):
think you can afford to do it. And again, this
is a year you need to find out what you
have in Justin Fields, and I think you hand him
the keys as fast as possible. If there's a bruise
ego thing that just that shouldn't be a Mike Tomlin thing.
That doesn't strike me is how Mike Tomlin should operate
I'm sure he has a lot of respect for Russell Wilson,
but there's a reason why he doesn't have losing seasons,

(01:52:21):
and that's a losing season kind of move to throw
away a couple of games early instead of getting the
young guy out there and seeing what he's got.

Speaker 2 (01:52:30):
I will say I do think Russell Wilson starts week one.
It's an interesting thing. I mean, we've talked about this
a ton, but you know, no real financial commitment to
Russell Wilson, no emotional commitment from the fan base, Like
it's not like he's been there forever and you're trying
to replace him. And I think, you know, you could
look at it as one of two ways. Is on
the one hand, you know, if Justin Fields goes out

(01:52:52):
there and totally bombs you know you you know, then
you have to go to Russell Wilson, you can't go back.
But the counter to that would be like if Russell
Wilson somehow plays very well for the Steelers early, then
all of a sudden, you know you're kind of stuck,
stuck with him, and then you don't give Justin Fields
the shot. So I'll say Russell Wilson gets the first start.

(01:53:14):
I'm not gonna lie and say I feel amazing about it,
or I would be outraged if Justin Fields was the
Week one starter. But I'll go ahead and say that
that Russell Wilson does start Week one. They open at Atlanta,
then play the Denver Broncos in Week two. Fox Sports
Radio eron towards Jason Martin. We got one segment left,
taking you up until two am Eastern time.

Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
Will come back.

Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
How about we preview some Week one of college football,
some big games coming up. We'll give you our thoughts.
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody. Fox Sports Radio aeron
towards Jason Martin, broadcasting live from thee tirerack dot Com studios.
We are taking you up until two am Eastern Time,
twelve minutes from now. Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Fratto

(01:53:59):
Show will fu us cannot wait to hear Bernie's reaction
to Week zero of the college football slate, and I
know Bernie's got some good stuff as we head into
week one of college football, and of course not far
behind it will be Week one of the NFL. Speaking
of Week one of college football, jmart you know we're
not gonna be back on air before Week one is

(01:54:22):
mostly in the books. I want to talk about some
of the games from next Thursday and Saturday. We could
save Sunday night. We get lsu USC, which is gonna
be a real fun one. We can obviously preview that
at this time next week, but let's talk about some
of these games. First of all, Thursday night kind of
an intriguing one. Colorado Buffaloes nine and a half point favorite.

(01:54:47):
They're playing the North Dakota State Bison. North Kota State,
of course, is an FCS team, FCS a level below Colorado,
but coach Prime Colorado Deon Sanders, they're not taking them.
Like you know, Dion had that quote in passing where
he said, I told my ad Rick George, because you
have given me an easy opener to start with, you

(01:55:08):
had to give me North Dakota State. Do you think
Colorado could or should or will be on upset alert
Thursday night.

Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
I don't know if they are going to be on
upset alert, but North Dakota State's going to show up
to play. It's not one of their better teams, like
it's not one of those North Dakota State teams. But
when you are a program that is used to winning,
and you have a staff that's used to winning, and
you have a certain culture that you used to winning.

(01:55:39):
That can cause some trouble. There's a whole lot of
eyeballs on Colorado. Now it's going to be in their
home stadium. Should be a great night. You would think
schdor Sanders should have some time because the O line
and D line have been completely overhauled via the transfer
portal with ten guys on both sides being brought in,
so you've got new bodies there. You should have a

(01:56:01):
bit of a size advantage there. So if you can
give him time, we know what should door Sanders is
capable of doing. So. I mean I anticipate Colorado is
going to win the game. But good on Dion. You
know there have been some negatives there, certainly recently. But
good on Dion for suggesting that North Dakota State needs
to be taken seriously because it starts at the top.

(01:56:22):
And that doesn't sound like lip service. That sounds like, yeah,
I know this is a program. They can win some games,
and Colorado is still a program where we are we
are waiting to see whether or not they're going to
continue winning games.

Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
Yeah, we'll see, we'll see with them. I'm not this
is one Listen. You know, as you said, you know
they've been a great program. I don't know that this
is like Carson Wentz North Dakota State first year head coach.
By the way, their coach left to take a job
on the new USC defensive staff.

Speaker 10 (01:56:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:56:54):
Colorado is going to have have their games where they're
in trouble. I think starting as early as Week two
against Nebraska. I don't know what this one is it.
By the way, the other big game on Thursday in
North Carolina at Minnesota, that is a Fox game. Let's
go really quickly to Saturday, big one noon Eastern.

Speaker 4 (01:57:12):
I mean, I don't know if it's is it still
considered a big one.

Speaker 2 (01:57:15):
Clemson for Georgia, you know, sounds great on paper, but
it's wild. Jason, you know, I remember you and I
first show we ever did together was these teams played
to open. I guess it would have been the twenty
twenty one season, and Clemson was like a one two
point favorite. Well, you fast forward a couple of years.

(01:57:36):
Clemson is now a thirteen and a half point underdog
to the number one ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia was my
preseason national championship pick. J mart took Texas. If you
missed that, check out the podcast. But what do you
think of Clemson being a two touchdown underdog to Georgia
in Week one?

Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
Well, when we did our playoff preview, I had Clemson
fourth because I think they're gonna win the ACC and
by default that means they're going to be number four,
But they're nowhere near the number four team. They're probably
closer to number fourteen. It's early, it's a neutral site.
I throw that in air quotes, even though Atlanta's not
that far from Clemson either. Georgia in that building, that's

(01:58:19):
just that's a tough ask. I feel like Georgia, Georgia
and Alabama we had seen through the years when they
had these kind of matchups like this, they end up
just absolutely blowing a team out that's a ranked team.
I could see that happening, But this could be tight.
I would take the line with Georgia here because I
think it will be more than two touchdowns. But it's

(01:58:40):
still a big game. It's already I mean, the two
maybe the most intriguing games of the day are both
at noon Eastern time, because you've got Penn State in
West Virginia, and I think West Virginia could give them
a game.

Speaker 2 (01:58:49):
To say the least, I think West Virginia could as well.
West Virginia an eight and a half point home underdog
Penn State. Obviously, we will see what they look like.
New offensive coordinator. Need to get that offense go really quick.
Afternoon game Miami at Florida. Miami's actually a two and
a half point road favorite. What do you got in

(01:59:10):
this one?

Speaker 3 (01:59:10):
J Mar That would be a bad loss for Florida. Napier.
I don't know if he's gonna have the time to
turn it around. I don't know how much of it
is on him, but Florida is not gonna take this
lying down for very long. They're just they're too used
to being a program that you just can't fall behind
this way. And you like Miami this year, so definitely

(01:59:30):
gonna be an intriguing one. It's gonna be a hard
fault one. It's one Florida really needs. I tend to
think they probably do somehow win the game, but Miami
is the better team.

Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
I like Florida just figuring out a way. By the way,
the late one because we got to get out of here.
It is Texas A and M hosting Notre Dame Texas
A and M A slight favorite, but I'll tell you what,
j mart we got to run. Want to thank the crew,
Mary Mack on the board, producer Ian de Sega. From
my partner Jason Martin, I'm Meritaorus. Make sure to download
the podcast Bernie Friday US up next.
